:00:43. > :00:50.Grey skies, heavy cloud, a bit of a chill and the inevitable rain has

:00:51. > :00:54.made Wimbledon 2016 a little bit frustrating though far. But despite

:00:55. > :00:57.the bad weather and the lack of blue skies, there has been a big ray of

:00:58. > :01:07.sunshine. COMMENTATOR: Roger versus Marcus.

:01:08. > :01:16.David versus Goliath! To share a god with Roger Federer, what a joy. --

:01:17. > :01:21.share a court. Here we go. Marcus Willis can take great pride in

:01:22. > :01:24.reaching the second round and his plucky performance in defeat to

:01:25. > :01:31.arguably the greatest player of all time is a match that will live long

:01:32. > :01:35.in the memory. So, as the world number 772's adventures come to an

:01:36. > :01:39.end here at Wimbledon, once again Britain's hopes rest with the world

:01:40. > :01:53.number two, who always seems to shine on Centre court.

:01:54. > :02:09.He has never lost an opening match at Wimbledon, Andy Murray.

:02:10. > :02:17.COMMENTATOR: Job done for Andy Murray. He looks comfortable out

:02:18. > :02:35.there. Yeah, Murray is on a mission because

:02:36. > :02:40.he comes here to try and win Wimbledon, to try and find a way to

:02:41. > :02:44.beat that man, Novak Djokovic, who holds all four Grand Slam titles.

:02:45. > :02:49.This is the scene at Wimbledon at the moment. I'm pleased to say that

:02:50. > :02:53.play is under way, although you probably noticed a view umbrella is

:02:54. > :02:58.up, a few spots of rain around and some of the not too happy about

:02:59. > :03:02.being asked to play on. But at the moment it is OK and play is

:03:03. > :03:07.continuing on all courts at the moment. Well, maybe not, not on

:03:08. > :03:13.Centre Court! They are playing on the courts. I'm hearing they're not

:03:14. > :03:16.going to close the roof but they are holding the players down at Centre

:03:17. > :03:23.Court and preparing to put the covers on. But there are some

:03:24. > :03:26.players playing on on the outer courts. It will be one of those

:03:27. > :03:32.days, some sunshine and showers throughout the afternoon. Good

:03:33. > :03:35.afternoon and after all the excitement yesterday on Centre Court

:03:36. > :03:39.of seeing Marcus Willis take on the great man, Roger Federer, we return

:03:40. > :03:48.to Centre Court, where once again there is plenty of British interest.

:03:49. > :03:56.Britain's main man, Andy Murray, is back in action. He has never lost in

:03:57. > :04:01.the second round. He is up against Yen-Hsun Lu, who has beaten him

:04:02. > :04:06.before and is a former quarterfinalist. Johanna Konta is

:04:07. > :04:09.the second instalment of the British double-header on Centre Court. She

:04:10. > :04:18.plays former runner-up Eugenie Bouchard. Forgotten man Grigor

:04:19. > :04:25.Dimitrov returns to the limelight, hoping to spring a shock over Simon.

:04:26. > :04:31.After a stuttering start, Garbine Muguruza will aim for more steady

:04:32. > :04:37.progress in round two. Rising star Dominic Thiem reached the French

:04:38. > :04:43.Open semifinal. Can he keep up his fine form? Third seed Agnieszka

:04:44. > :04:51.Radwanska plays the promising teenager Ana Konjuh. What a line-up

:04:52. > :04:56.we have on the show courts today. The first match is already under

:04:57. > :05:00.way, the fifth seed, Kei Nishikori, taking on Julien Benneteau of

:05:01. > :05:04.France. Then it is Andy Murray, and then Johanna Konta completes the

:05:05. > :05:08.line-up on Centre Court. They have the roof there, so they don't mind

:05:09. > :05:13.too much about the weather, but on Court One they will certainly be

:05:14. > :05:20.worried. Grigor Dimitrov has started his match against Gilles Simon.

:05:21. > :05:27.Dominic Thiem playing another rising star, 22-year-old Jiri Vesely. We

:05:28. > :05:30.will be keeping an eye on Radwanska's match. Milos Raonic has

:05:31. > :05:32.a tough opener against Andreas Seppi. Richard Gasquet against

:05:33. > :05:42.Marcel Granollers. Well, two results to bring you

:05:43. > :05:45.involving British players and first the good news. Dan Evans, a

:05:46. > :05:55.wonderful performance from him on Court Two, putting out the 30th seed

:05:56. > :06:04.Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets. Now he has put out Dolgopolov

:06:05. > :06:11.and waiting for him in the first -- next round, guess who? Roger

:06:12. > :06:16.Federer! Not such good news I'm afraid for Heather Watson. She has

:06:17. > :06:21.gone out, beaten by Annika Beck. A real battle on Court 12 and she had

:06:22. > :06:26.match points, she had 0-40 on the Annika Beck serve but she went out

:06:27. > :06:29.12-10. These were the sort of rallies they were hitting all the

:06:30. > :06:36.way through this match. Their styles so similar. But Beck coming out on

:06:37. > :06:39.top. Huge disappointment for Britain's Heather Watson, who had

:06:40. > :06:43.such a wonderful Wimbledon last year. We all remember that match

:06:44. > :06:47.against Serena Williams, but she came to point away from winning it.

:06:48. > :06:52.Disappointment this year, she is out in the opening round.

:06:53. > :07:00.Well, we've had lovely weather right the way through the morning and

:07:01. > :07:03.indeed sunshine for the players. They did start earlier here at

:07:04. > :07:09.Wimbledon, they're trying to play catch up. Still some first round

:07:10. > :07:14.matches needing to be completed. Whoa! Where are we going? They are

:07:15. > :07:20.catching up with that but we want a full day's played. I know Carol will

:07:21. > :07:26.have the answer. Well, we had a shower at Heathrow is a few hours

:07:27. > :07:32.ago which was heavy and we just got the edge of that coming past. We're

:07:33. > :07:37.not out of the woods yet with showers this afternoon but there is

:07:38. > :07:42.a chance we will stay dry. If we don't see a shower by about four

:07:43. > :07:47.5pm, the risk diminishes. Much milder than it was yesterday too.

:07:48. > :07:51.For tomorrow, rain first thing but by the time play gets under way, it

:07:52. > :07:56.should be drying up. There is the risk of a shower but a greater

:07:57. > :08:00.chance we will stay dry and miss most of those showers. A change in

:08:01. > :08:04.the forecast for Saturday, a positive change in fact. We were

:08:05. > :08:09.expecting a larger risk of showers and if you caught one it was likely

:08:10. > :08:14.to be heavy, but now that risk has diminished a touch. So some good

:08:15. > :08:18.news on the horizon, Sue. We need some good news after the last three

:08:19. > :08:21.days, Carol! It has been a dismal start and lovely to see some

:08:22. > :08:26.sunshine earlier on and hopefully more to follow. Thanks very much,

:08:27. > :08:32.Carol. Before we head over to Court One, we can update you with what is

:08:33. > :08:35.happening elsewhere. Venus Williams, five-time winner, up against Maria

:08:36. > :08:46.Sicario, a qualifier making her Wimbledon debut. -- Maria Sakkari.

:08:47. > :08:52.Venus has dropped her serve in the second set after taking the first

:08:53. > :08:58.set. You can watch that Madge on BBC Two. On Court three, Milos Raonic

:08:59. > :09:04.has just taken the first set in just under an hour against Andreas Seppi

:09:05. > :09:09.of Italy, 7-6. That match available online, on the website, on the app

:09:10. > :09:12.and connected TV. Raonic, find a list at Queen's and expected to go

:09:13. > :09:17.deep in the tournament, has taken the first set on Court three. We are

:09:18. > :09:22.heading to Court One to see Grigor Dimitrov, the former semifinalist

:09:23. > :09:29.here, against Gilles Simon, who was a quarterfinalist here before. He

:09:30. > :09:35.has taken the first set and found some form. It is 2-2 in the second

:09:36. > :09:40.set. Let's join Tim Henman and Nick Mullins, watching this one.

:09:41. > :09:49.COMMENTATOR: And it's been good fun to watch, so far. A couple of

:09:50. > :09:54.players who know how to go deep into the second week of this tournament

:09:55. > :09:56.battling it out in the second round here. Jill

:09:57. > :10:23.APPLAUSE Oh yes! This has been very watchable

:10:24. > :10:29.tennis. TIM HENMAN: It certainly has. Good awareness from Dimitrov,

:10:30. > :10:34.he played the short slice and then followed the ball in when he knew

:10:35. > :10:44.Simon was going to have to chip up. Then put the forehand away. Second

:10:45. > :10:54.serve at 15-13. Will he look to be aggressive. -- 15-30.

:10:55. > :11:14.If there has been one shot that, if Dimitrov could polish, he would do,

:11:15. > :11:15.it's been that backhand. Percentage of those unforced errors largely off

:11:16. > :11:38.the backhand as well. Oh! Is a one hand that didn't work,

:11:39. > :11:46.followed by one that most definitely did. Yet, certainly got lucky there.

:11:47. > :11:51.Simon left with very little option after the net cord from Dimitrov. He

:11:52. > :11:58.certainly chose the right time, Simon. Closed in -- chose the right

:11:59. > :12:18.time. Simon closed in on the net and he flicked the lob.

:12:19. > :12:27.A little bit half-hearted. He sort of was hoping he could get a

:12:28. > :12:30.forehand and was a little bit late moving. Never really got into

:12:31. > :12:32.position and then once he has that far outside the court, only one shot

:12:33. > :12:50.left. Well, Dimitrov's backhand has been a

:12:51. > :12:54.bit flaky. We've admired the double fisted backhand of the Frenchman. He

:12:55. > :12:56.doesn't invite the ball onto the court, he commands it, as he did

:12:57. > :13:15.just then. APPLAUSE

:13:16. > :13:24.A moment of opportunity for the Bulgarian. But the Frenchman leads.

:13:25. > :13:31.It's a match that started yesterday evening but went just a dozen

:13:32. > :13:36.minutes before that light drizzle that started to fall at around

:13:37. > :13:42.6:15pm, 6:30pm, pushed them off court. They try to go again but then

:13:43. > :13:51.the rain came again and they packed their bags. They have come back out

:13:52. > :13:58.today. Had a little shower about ten minutes ago, which has slicked up

:13:59. > :14:05.the court a bit. Dimitrov has been on his skates, chasing down balls.

:14:06. > :14:09.But it is fascinating to watch this man, semifinalist here as recently

:14:10. > :14:15.as a couple of years ago, 2014. But he is right now in the mix of a

:14:16. > :14:19.fairly mystifying slump. Down to 37th in the world rankings and

:14:20. > :14:24.finding wins hard to come by. But he's playing with some confidence.

:14:25. > :14:29.He's playing some great tennis but as you say, the rankings don't lie.

:14:30. > :14:33.When you see him constructing points and serving aggressively and using

:14:34. > :14:38.all his skills, it's pretty amazing to think that he is 37 in the world.

:14:39. > :14:42.He should be a good 25 spots higher than that. Definitely a top 15

:14:43. > :15:00.player, in my mind. Ended a depressing run of six

:15:01. > :15:10.straight defeats stretching back to May when he beat the qualifier Bjorn

:15:11. > :15:16.Fratangelo on Monday. Hoping very much that he can get back contract

:15:17. > :15:20.and he has turned the corner. We get all these statistics in front of us

:15:21. > :15:24.and it amazes me and this is probably part of the problem for

:15:25. > :15:29.Dimitrov, that he serve as well as he does and in the tournament he has

:15:30. > :15:36.hit 78 first serves and he has served and volleyed once.

:15:37. > :15:46.And every time... Every time he has hit a slow serve out wide to Simon's

:15:47. > :15:50.forehand, he just chips it back. If you know the guy is going to chip it

:15:51. > :15:57.back, it's an open invitation to serve and volley.

:15:58. > :16:05.Doesn't need to serve and volley all the time, but it would just add that

:16:06. > :16:09.little bit of variation and make his opponent think. Whereas if you stay

:16:10. > :16:16.back every time, you're giving your opponent a big target. If it is an

:16:17. > :16:21.instinctive thing, which it isn't with Dimitrov, how do you develop

:16:22. > :16:26.that? You have to practice it on the practice court. No use coming out on

:16:27. > :16:29.the match court and saying I'm going to suddenly start to serve and

:16:30. > :16:31.volley. That is obviously where a coach can have an important part to

:16:32. > :16:53.play. Still parts of his game that are in

:16:54. > :16:55.fine fettle right now. Again, not the worst approach shot in the world

:16:56. > :17:31.but some phenomenal passing shots. APPLAUSE

:17:32. > :17:36.Well, he's pressing here. Again, patient, aggressive hitting. Waiting

:17:37. > :17:38.for the right ball. Looking to move forward when he gets the chance,

:17:39. > :18:44.from the baseline. UMPIRE: Mr Simon is challenging the

:18:45. > :18:48.call on the right baseline. The ball was called in. I wouldn't say we had

:18:49. > :18:56.the best advantage point, but this looks pretty tight. He's not

:18:57. > :18:57.entirely sure about this decision. I think this might have caught the

:18:58. > :19:08.back edge. Yes... As soon as he decided to

:19:09. > :19:16.appeal, I think he thought, are you absolutely sure about that, Gilles?

:19:17. > :19:40.And now a bit of muttering. Two break points down.

:19:41. > :19:46.Oh! He came to the net... Dimitrov, and it needed to be brilliant to

:19:47. > :19:57.pass him and it was. Dimitrov obviously lost the point,

:19:58. > :20:03.but this is a good move. Good approach shot, asked the question.

:20:04. > :20:05.Simon down to break points, he doesn't want to have to hit too many

:20:06. > :20:55.passing shots like that. Oh! Wow! He stopped it dead. And at

:20:56. > :21:00.the end of a marathon rally, what a touch. What touch.

:21:01. > :21:12.As soon as he hit this shot, I so nearly said, what a stupid shot. And

:21:13. > :21:16.there it lands, three feet from the net, on the sideline for the perfect

:21:17. > :21:25.drop shot and gives him the break of serve. Well, it is a contest that

:21:26. > :21:29.has got better and better over the last hour or so. It was high-quality

:21:30. > :21:34.from the start, but it really is very watchable right now. And that

:21:35. > :21:39.has really got to be the nuts and bolts of Dimitrov's game. He's got

:21:40. > :21:43.variation, he's a good athlete. Stayed in the rally and it was

:21:44. > :21:47.obviously a stunning shot to finish, but 28 shots in waiting for the

:21:48. > :21:53.right moment. You can see what that meant to him. You can also see him

:21:54. > :21:57.back off as he hit it, he was probably thinking what you were

:21:58. > :22:05.thinking, and then all of a sudden it lands on the right side. Here is

:22:06. > :22:11.the world number 37, having been as high as number eight. Having been to

:22:12. > :22:14.the semifinal here, he ended the reign of the defending champion Andy

:22:15. > :22:20.Murray in emphatic fashion, straight sets. Then he was knocked out by

:22:21. > :22:26.Novak Djokovic. This is an interesting moment in the match.

:22:27. > :22:31.Ranked 37 playing the 16th seed. You could say that Dimitrov comes in

:22:32. > :22:36.pretty relaxed, not expecting to win. He has a losing head-to-head

:22:37. > :22:40.record. That's the easy bit, with nothing to lose, now up a set and a

:22:41. > :22:50.break and you have got something to lose. Let's see how he reacts.

:22:51. > :22:57.He's got new balls, so they fly through the air just a little bit

:22:58. > :23:01.quicker. Not that they needed any more encouragement. Dimitrov has

:23:02. > :24:22.been walloping his serves down at 130 mph.

:24:23. > :24:42.Gilles Simon has been one of those motorway drivers who sticks at a

:24:43. > :24:48.steady 68, 69, 70. Dimitrov has been one of those who travels at 40,

:24:49. > :24:52.sometimes 50, occasionally 100! And the Frenchman has found that tough

:24:53. > :24:54.to deal with that times. Are you trying to say Dimitrov breaks the

:24:55. > :24:55.law? CHUCKLES

:24:56. > :25:31.I get your point. Simon, quarterfinalist last summer.

:25:32. > :25:36.He can draw on all that experience now, all the experience that his 31

:25:37. > :25:42.years have given him. A deep breath, 30-30.

:25:43. > :26:12.Dramatic moment for it to start to rain.

:26:13. > :26:25.APPLAUSE Is a long point in the drizzle goes

:26:26. > :26:29.the way of the Frenchman. So often in this match so far we have seen

:26:30. > :26:36.Dimitrov looking to pull the trigger when he gets the chance, but down a

:26:37. > :26:41.set and a break, Simon realises he's got to be a bit more proactive.

:26:42. > :27:15.Once again it is the backhand that is his undoing.

:27:16. > :27:20.Yes, needed three and a half hours and recovered from losing the first

:27:21. > :27:32.set to beat Yank -- Janko Tipsarevic in the first

:27:33. > :27:42.round. Happy to report that so far today no repeat of the service yet

:27:43. > :27:48.that blighted him at Queen's. -- the service yips. Here is Simon, back on

:27:49. > :28:20.serve, 4-4. A great quality point on the back of

:28:21. > :28:28.a very disappointing service game. Obviously, up a set and a break,

:28:29. > :28:32.that's when you really want to stab your authority. A couple of unforced

:28:33. > :28:38.errors, but that was the response. -- stamp your authority.

:28:39. > :28:46.We were right behind that and I thought I saw a little bit of

:28:47. > :30:12.dust... As we check the monitor in our commentary box. Just long.

:30:13. > :30:45.Just a little bit of a hint in the middle of that, the service toss

:30:46. > :30:49.issues which dogged him at Queen's were peaking around the corner but

:30:50. > :30:59.he managed to sort himself out. A great run to the last eight. He

:31:00. > :31:05.eventually succumbed to Roger Federer but confirmation of what he

:31:06. > :31:09.can do on this surface. He is a top, top operator. I think the last

:31:10. > :31:14.couple of games were a classic example of what we were talking

:31:15. > :31:25.about Simon's level has not really changed. He has been at seven, seven

:31:26. > :31:27..5 out of ten. For a centre break, Dimitrov was that 8.5, nine, and

:31:28. > :31:33.then all of a sudden, that service game probably dropped to a five.

:31:34. > :31:45.There seemed to be a real command to get to a two sets to love lead. It

:31:46. > :31:45.is very easy to doubt yourself, second-guess yourself, change your

:31:46. > :32:19.shot selection at the last second. We should check the installation in

:32:20. > :32:23.our commentary box. You said you would like to see him head into the

:32:24. > :32:44.net a bit more and that is what he has been doing.

:32:45. > :36:16.Simon has won three games in a row. Could make it four.

:36:17. > :36:26.Well played. Simon got away with a streaky return but Dimitrov finishes

:36:27. > :37:12.of the point. There is a man absolutely determined

:37:13. > :37:35.to get the return on the forehand and he ended up paying the price.

:37:36. > :38:21.He doubles his ace count in this match to two.

:38:22. > :38:24.UMPIRE: Mr Dimitrov is challenging the call on the right baseline. The

:38:25. > :39:06.ball was called out. Even when the ball is not in play,

:39:07. > :39:31.Gilles Simon has provided plenty of entertainment.

:39:32. > :40:01.Given the circumstances and the guy is struggling with his ball toss,

:40:02. > :40:04.5-5 second set, that is a weak unforced error. Rallying shots

:40:05. > :41:20.shouldn't be anywhere near the net. He's in his 30s now. One of a record

:41:21. > :41:32.number of thirtysomethings in this yearmen's draw. 49 doing great

:41:33. > :41:36.things. 49 is the record from the open era from 1968 when the game

:41:37. > :41:41.allowed professionals to play as well. It is not quite the record.

:41:42. > :41:46.There were 51 of them at Roland Garros last month. The game is

:41:47. > :41:52.getting older, Tim. It certainly is. The longevity of the players has

:41:53. > :41:55.increased. Is it to do with training techniques, the injury prevention?

:41:56. > :42:09.Is it that players are coming on the tour later and it is taking them

:42:10. > :42:12.longer to mature, said not necessarily starting at the top of

:42:13. > :42:13.their game at such a young age? Probably a combination of

:42:14. > :44:01.everything. I remember playing Davis Cup in

:44:02. > :44:04.Morocco, Greg was it the hate a big return. The other player took his

:44:05. > :44:10.eye off the ball as it was going into the stands. As he got the ball

:44:11. > :44:37.from the ball kid, it hit him on the head!

:44:38. > :44:53.He holds on. We are heading towards a second set tie-break.

:44:54. > :44:59.Where is the balance of power? It looked like Dimitrov might be taking

:45:00. > :45:30.control. It looked close from where we were.

:45:31. > :45:37.Not an easy job calling these balls when they are so close to the line.

:45:38. > :46:46.It is wide. Fascinating to see Dimitrov just changing the pace on

:46:47. > :46:50.the ball, slowing it down. It was a good tactic when Dimitrov is playing

:46:51. > :46:56.the slice down the line to Simon's forehand. It stays low. Simon is not

:46:57. > :47:00.good at generating his own pace. He goes across court and that goes into

:47:01. > :47:42.Dimitrov's strength. It was on the line. He is saying I

:47:43. > :48:20.know it is on the line but I want a break!

:48:21. > :48:27.Two mini-breaks now. The 16th seed is in danger of going two sets to

:48:28. > :49:40.love down. A change of ends after a dozen

:49:41. > :49:46.points. Dimitrov with two mini-breaks. He has a reassuringly

:49:47. > :51:20.thick insurance policy here. Big, big problems for the 16th seed.

:51:21. > :51:24.SUE BARKER: Dimitrov totally in control on Court Number One against

:51:25. > :51:29.Simon. We are going to leave this match because we are going to head

:51:30. > :51:33.over to Centre Court. If you want to continue, you can. It is on the red

:51:34. > :51:38.button. There are 15 matches available online, on the app and an

:51:39. > :51:45.connected TV. Venus Williams is in trouble on Court 18. We are heading

:51:46. > :51:50.straight over to Centre Court. There is some lovely tennis being played

:51:51. > :51:53.here between Kei Nishikori the number five seed, against Julien

:51:54. > :51:58.Benneteau who was attacking all the time. His ranking may have dropped

:51:59. > :52:07.to 547, but he has come here with a protected ranking of 39. He took the

:52:08. > :52:10.first set but Nishikori has just broken in a very long game.

:52:11. > :52:11.Nishikori now a break-up in the second set. Let's join Jim Courier

:52:12. > :52:36.and Andrew Potter. -- Andrew Cotter. ANDREW COTTER: Nishikori was looking

:52:37. > :52:40.more flustered. That might be the turnaround he needs, Jim?

:52:41. > :52:45.Absolutely. His racket looked to be in peril. He raised it over his head

:52:46. > :52:49.in anger and held onto it. The benefit of a wayward drop shot by

:52:50. > :53:04.Benneteau at deuce. He lifted his spirits but we will

:53:05. > :53:10.see if he lifts his shot selection. He has mostly been attacking into

:53:11. > :53:15.the backhand winner of Julien Benneteau which is far more insecure

:53:16. > :53:19.for him. Centre Court continues to fill up in anticipation of the rest

:53:20. > :53:38.of this match but also I think perhaps the match to follow.

:53:39. > :55:07.The bug -- body language lifts from Nishikori.

:55:08. > :55:13.Benneteau has just thrown in a few more and forced errors of late.

:55:14. > :56:03.Nishikori backs up that break and moves within possibly one game of

:56:04. > :56:14.this second set. You can see him trying to puzzle it out. In this

:56:15. > :56:15.situation you are not allowed coaching. Michael Chang not able to

:56:16. > :56:31.offer any advice. The coach's job is to enable the

:56:32. > :57:00.player to make decisions on the fly. We have talked about the potency of

:57:01. > :58:08.his backhand. The two-handed backhand. Here we are.

:58:09. > :58:20.Benneteau keeps fighting in this second set.

:58:21. > :58:27.Shortly the number five seed to serve for it. A lot of mistakes from

:58:28. > :58:33.both players. There has been some good stuff in as well, in this

:58:34. > :58:40.match, which has been disrupted by a very short shower. Nishikori doing

:58:41. > :58:48.some thinking. When you're out there on your own, your feeling out your

:58:49. > :58:53.opponent and saying this is how I can change, this is what I need to

:58:54. > :58:58.do... I think it may have taken him a bit of time to see what his body

:58:59. > :59:10.would be like today too. In the first round his serves speeds were

:59:11. > :59:17.slower than usual. He had to withdraw in the first round at

:59:18. > :59:20.Halle. He had to withdraw here last year as well, he must be very

:59:21. > :59:25.sensitive to his body at this stage of his career. It seems like his

:59:26. > :59:29.serves speeds are actor normal right now. Maybe he is now turning his

:59:30. > :59:33.attention fully to what is happening on the other side of the net and

:59:34. > :59:39.realising some tactical changes were needed. The winner of this one will

:59:40. > :59:43.play the Russian, Andrey Kuznetsov, who is closing in on victory over

:59:44. > :59:52.Gilles Muller. Both of those players had five set wins in their first

:59:53. > :59:56.round. Particularly Gilles Muller, 15-13 in the fifth against Santiago

:59:57. > :00:02.Giraldo. You can understand a bit of fatigue on his part. Nishikori

:00:03. > :00:14.serving to level things at once set apiece. The big serving lefty Gilles

:00:15. > :00:28.Muller is a rough customer on this surface.

:00:29. > :00:40.APPLAUSE Well, this is Federer's quarter of

:00:41. > :00:44.the draw. If the seedings go according to plan, that is who

:00:45. > :00:48.Nishikori would ultimately come up against.

:00:49. > :01:05.APPLAUSE Although as we've talked about his

:01:06. > :01:07.grass record, his Wimbledon record, not perhaps his finest. But three

:01:08. > :01:55.set points for Nishikori. UMPIRE: Mr Nishikori is challenging

:01:56. > :02:00.the ball on the right centre service line of the ball was called out. A

:02:01. > :02:11.challenge which could bring about the end of this second set... But

:02:12. > :02:20.will not, the ball was well wide. The second set point is saved by

:02:21. > :02:45.Benneteau. 40-30. Mr Nishikori has one challenge remaining.

:02:46. > :02:53.It is wide. Nishikori has it, and the number five seed draws level at

:02:54. > :02:57.a set apiece against Julien Benneteau.

:02:58. > :03:02.STUDIO What a fascinating match this is.

:03:03. > :03:06.One set all on Centre Court and we will be right back with it in just a

:03:07. > :03:11.moment. We will update you on what is happening on court 18, where

:03:12. > :03:18.five-time champion Venus Williams is in trouble against a qualifier from

:03:19. > :03:25.Greece, Maria Sakkari. The five-time champion is in trouble. That is over

:03:26. > :03:30.on BBC Two. And on the red button, this match on Court Number One,

:03:31. > :03:38.Grigor Dimitrov in your picture is in charge. He leads to- -- he leads

:03:39. > :03:44.to sets to love against Gilles Simon. Great news for Britain's Dan

:03:45. > :03:48.Evans, he is through to the third round, beating Alexandr Dolgopolov

:03:49. > :03:52.of Ukraine and putting out the 30 seed in straight sets. He is through

:03:53. > :03:59.to the third round and waiting for him there will be Roger Federer!

:04:00. > :04:05.What a match to look forward to. David Goffin Belgium, the 11th seed,

:04:06. > :04:16.is through, coming through in three sets against Edward Roger-Vasselin

:04:17. > :04:21.-- Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France. David Ferrer is out, another seed.

:04:22. > :04:30.He has lost two Nicolas Mahut, who certainly knows his way around a

:04:31. > :04:36.grass court. The serve-volley came through 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. He will go

:04:37. > :04:40.through to play his doubles partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the next

:04:41. > :04:44.round. Disappointment for Britain's Heather Watson, she had match points

:04:45. > :04:48.against German Annika Beck, but went out in the third and final set. A

:04:49. > :04:53.real battle between two players with very similar styles long, hard race

:04:54. > :05:00.line rallies and a real test of stamina. But it is back through,

:05:01. > :05:05.12-10 in the third. Heather Watson's dreams of Wimbledon have faded in

:05:06. > :05:13.the opening round. Number five seed here in your picture, Simona Halep,

:05:14. > :05:18.is through, from Romania. 6-1, 6-1 against 36-year-old Francesca

:05:19. > :05:24.Schiavone of Italy. Sam Anno Halep -- Simona Halep, a semifinalist here

:05:25. > :05:28.last year, through to the next round. Those are some of the results

:05:29. > :05:34.from earlier. We're heading straight back to Centre Court.

:05:35. > :05:45.COMMENTATOR: Interesting to keep an eye on the fitness of Julien

:05:46. > :05:52.Benneteau as well. The man has had so many problems with injuries and

:05:53. > :05:53.34 now, Benneteau. Nishikori, one of the fittest players out there and

:05:54. > :06:16.one of the quickest as well. It has just got a bit darker out

:06:17. > :06:56.there again. Nishikori is 26 years old. He's been

:06:57. > :06:57.on tour a long time. Started young and won his first title early,

:06:58. > :07:19.Delray Beach, as a teenager. Well, it's a good, quick halt by

:07:20. > :07:25.Benneteau to start this third set. As we look into the future, which,

:07:26. > :07:33.sadly at some stage, hopefully not soon, will include a Roger Federer

:07:34. > :07:37.free future for these players. Rafael Nadal will be out here for a

:07:38. > :07:42.while but he is struggling with a wrist injury right now. Who's going

:07:43. > :07:46.to challenge Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray? Is this guy going to be one

:07:47. > :07:54.of them? You look at some of the younger players, Alexander Zverev

:07:55. > :07:59.and Dominic Thiem. In particular Dominic Thiem is starting to make a

:08:00. > :08:07.real move. I would contend that Nishikori is one of the contenders

:08:08. > :08:12.to win majors in the next 5-7 years. He could be a bit like a Stan

:08:13. > :08:18.Wawrinka, takes him a little bit of time. But with a little bit of a

:08:19. > :08:29.different landscape and fewer obstacles in his way, who knows?

:08:30. > :08:39.Again, as you were saying, he needs a good, long run free of injuries as

:08:40. > :08:40.well. He's had his problems. That is the biggest issue for him. Just

:08:41. > :08:52.staying fully fit. As long as he's got that backhand,

:08:53. > :09:16.he might be OK. APPLAUSE

:09:17. > :09:18.Doesn't serve too many aces. That one might have just got a bit of a

:09:19. > :09:50.touch on it from Benneteau. Since 2014 when Nishikori made that

:09:51. > :09:55.terrific run to the US Open final, he lost to Marin Cilic and to

:09:56. > :10:02.fatigue, as he played so many long matches leading into that final, a

:10:03. > :10:05.lot has been expected of him. In the last couple of seasons he hasn't got

:10:06. > :10:14.past a quarterfinal of a slam. Well, once more Benneteau abandons

:10:15. > :10:26.the chase on the drop shot from Nishikori. And Nishikori is once

:10:27. > :10:32.again just changing rackets. We were talking about how often he does

:10:33. > :10:37.that. More so than most players. He will change rackets not just on the

:10:38. > :10:39.change of balls from used to new balls, but he is very finicky with

:10:40. > :11:19.his string tension. Nishikori is one of those players

:11:20. > :11:31.who uses half gut string and half of a poly. Around 50 lbs the difference

:11:32. > :11:35.between the mains and the crosses. 49, 50 one. That is something that

:11:36. > :11:45.has changed over the years in men's tennis as well, string tensions have

:11:46. > :11:49.got progressively lower. You use poly strings to spin the ball. If

:11:50. > :11:55.you want a bit low attention, you get a bit more from the racket, that

:11:56. > :11:59.can do more work for you. Bjorn Borg used to string up on the 80s on a

:12:00. > :12:04.racket much smaller than these and much more wooden.

:12:05. > :12:17.He's gone to the well again. He is a big man, Benneteau. Takes something

:12:18. > :12:43.to get going. We know how much this match means to

:12:44. > :12:47.Benneteau, playing on that protected ranking. Going through to the third

:12:48. > :13:10.round here would be a huge boost. He won't know, but Gilles Muller has

:13:11. > :13:13.gone out, so Andrey Kuznetsov is in the third round, that is the next

:13:14. > :13:18.opponent here, that would just be a massive opponent for Benneteau to

:13:19. > :13:26.reach the fourth round. -- massive opportunity. But he has a lot of

:13:27. > :13:38.work ahead of him if he's going to get into that match-up, of course.

:13:39. > :13:48.It is a hold for Benneteau. Working hard but steering himself safely

:13:49. > :13:52.through another service game. Just an almost imperceptible nod of the

:13:53. > :14:01.head from his younger brother Antoine, now his coach. There he is,

:14:02. > :14:06.bottom right of the picture. He's actually working in the media,

:14:07. > :14:19.college tennis -- played college tennis and then did a bit of work

:14:20. > :14:22.for the L'Equipe, the robust institution of French sport

:14:23. > :14:26.coverage. The Tour de France starts soon, apropos of nothing. All the

:14:27. > :14:31.injury problems we've talked about with Benneteau can he missed last

:14:32. > :14:35.year, played Indian Wells and then had his operation on a hernia. Just

:14:36. > :14:40.coming back from the start of the year on that protected ranking. You

:14:41. > :14:46.get nine tournaments, nine months. He's played if you challenge is,

:14:47. > :14:55.hasn't spent all of his protected ranking points yet, but a good run

:14:56. > :15:00.here would be fantastic. It would be a career extender for him. He still

:15:01. > :15:07.has good opportunities in doubles but for singles, this is a desperate

:15:08. > :15:11.situation here, these next few months he must convert opportunities

:15:12. > :15:16.if he wants to get back on the main stage and have an extended career,

:15:17. > :15:20.otherwise he will most likely be simply resigned to playing doubles,

:15:21. > :15:25.which there is no shame in that, he's had it a thick career, 34 years

:15:26. > :15:31.of age been around a long time. But given the rewards at stake these

:15:32. > :15:33.days, the continued increase in prize money and opportunities, I'm

:15:34. > :16:01.sure he would love that. It has just got a bit flat early in

:16:02. > :16:03.the third set here, a little lack of intensity. The crowd has gone mild,

:16:04. > :16:24.I would say. It's the type of scenario I didn't

:16:25. > :16:31.like when I was playing, I didn't like to feel like it was a little

:16:32. > :16:38.bit flat in the room, so to speak. You felt like you could get broken

:16:39. > :16:39.if you just take your eye off the ball for a second, things could get

:16:40. > :16:55.out of hand. Oh! Wow. Just stretched out that

:16:56. > :17:14.giant arm and it was out wide but it felt quite nicely for Benneteau.

:17:15. > :17:28.A hold for Nishikori. The man has never gone too deep at Wimbledon,

:17:29. > :17:33.his best was the last 16 four years ago when he lost to Milos Raonic in

:17:34. > :17:37.straight sets. He has never really fair to well on grass.

:17:38. > :17:44.Quarterfinalist at the Olympics here. Semifinalist at Halle last

:17:45. > :17:58.year, but this will probably be his weakest slam.

:17:59. > :18:04.APPLAUSE Again, finds a wonderful angle off

:18:05. > :18:36.that backhand. APPLAUSE

:18:37. > :18:41.Nishikori actually using one racket to return serve with and another one

:18:42. > :18:45.to serve with. That is the one that he just served with, so what that

:18:46. > :18:49.tells me is that he is playing with different tensions, possibly as a

:18:50. > :18:53.result of that rib injury going with a looser racket to generate more

:18:54. > :18:59.power off the serve, that is my guess. And tighter strings for the

:19:00. > :19:05.ground strokes, here. APPLAUSE

:19:06. > :19:39.Good reach by Benneteau. The tall Frenchman climbed up to that one.

:19:40. > :19:59.It does seem to affect him most, from a velocity standpoint, on the

:20:00. > :20:04.serve. His ground strokes seem to be rather uninhibited. So the tighter

:20:05. > :20:12.strings would make sense. In this scenario. But if you can't touch the

:20:13. > :20:19.ball, it doesn't help you! So evenly matched at the moment. A set apiece,

:20:20. > :20:21.two games all and Benneteau 40-30. He moves ahead 80-79 in total

:20:22. > :20:30.points. So they are all tied now? They are

:20:31. > :21:04.all tied up, is that phrase. An unnecessary mistake from

:21:05. > :21:38.Nishikori as well. And he knows it. We talk about his backhand. His

:21:39. > :22:02.forehand not too shabby on this occasion.

:22:03. > :22:11.So, Benneteau feeling the squeeze again. Nishikori, who went so long

:22:12. > :22:13.in this match without any break points, is beginning to create them,

:22:14. > :22:33.of late. It is long from Benneteau and

:22:34. > :22:38.Nishikori with a cry has the break in this third set. And the number

:22:39. > :22:45.five seed is looking stronger and stronger. Even if he doesn't show

:22:46. > :22:47.it, as he sort of labour is his way to his chair. But he certainly has

:22:48. > :22:58.the upper hand now. Nishikori not one to get too

:22:59. > :23:02.vociferous on the court. He keeps his emotions reasonably and check

:23:03. > :23:09.out there. He is a passionate kid, no question about it. Always been

:23:10. > :23:21.very talented. Left home very early to go to the IMG Academy, Boliteri's

:23:22. > :23:24.famous school. He was listed as the most talented player of his

:23:25. > :23:31.generation by the same coaches that word there when players like Andre

:23:32. > :23:36.Agassi word there. People would ask him who was the best one around and

:23:37. > :23:42.he was the guy. They saw it early, aged 14 or 15. A little bit dark

:23:43. > :23:47.above. Certainly gloomy down here on Centre Court, but we have the magic

:23:48. > :23:55.roof, so we don't care! They've had a couple of showers in this match.

:23:56. > :23:59.They played through one of them, it was so gentle and fleeting. Lovely

:24:00. > :24:04.view high over Wimbledon. You can look all the way over to the City,

:24:05. > :24:09.also soft fun and games going on over there. People filtering around

:24:10. > :24:13.the courtside side. And the chosen few who have tickets for Centre

:24:14. > :24:17.Court today. A few have taken a break just now, I think it's just

:24:18. > :24:25.got a bit more sparse in here. They will come back in for the end of

:24:26. > :24:29.this match. Andy Murray against Yen-Hsun Lu to come after this one.

:24:30. > :24:38.New balls for Kei Nishikori, who has the break.

:24:39. > :24:46.I must admit, I wasn't paying attention, which often happens, but

:24:47. > :24:56.he took his serving racket for this, Kei Nishikori. He did.

:24:57. > :25:14.He quickly put the other one away in his bag.

:25:15. > :25:21.There it is, he brought it out with him so he doesn't have to go back,

:25:22. > :25:24.at the end of this game. Maybe it's his!

:25:25. > :26:05.Just wide. Benneteau imposing himself. Benneteau's backhand just

:26:06. > :26:12.skims the net, it's so low and flat. Perfect for this surface. The ball

:26:13. > :26:20.just skidding through the court. So he is pressing his way back, trying

:26:21. > :26:22.to get onto level terms here. Someone has fallen over, hope it

:26:23. > :26:35.wasn't Bob Willis! Yes, a break point! A break back

:26:36. > :27:11.point for Benneteau. APPLAUSE

:27:12. > :27:12.Well, Benneteau looking plaintively to his support crew. Nothing much

:27:13. > :27:56.they can say. He's had a lot of success with that

:27:57. > :28:00.second serve wide in the juice scored -- in the deuce court.

:28:01. > :28:11.Going wide to the Benneteau forehand.

:28:12. > :28:14.Well, it's a good hold for Nishikori, after being briefly

:28:15. > :28:27.troubled. Some faint shadows starting to

:28:28. > :29:07.appear. You are not alone in the Bob Willis

:29:08. > :29:46.fan club. I loved Headingley 81. That was a ripper of a forehand from

:29:47. > :30:26.Nishikori. That came fizzing back past

:30:27. > :30:42.Benneteau. The Frenchman in bother again.

:30:43. > :30:51.This third set is all Nishikori's now. He has the double break and he

:30:52. > :30:55.will serve for this third set. He always looks rather weary as he

:30:56. > :31:03.makes his way to the change of ends, but he is in a grand position now.

:31:04. > :31:08.You look at a third-round opponent, it is Kuznetsov now, not too bad at

:31:09. > :31:12.all. He is the number five seed. You would expect him to move through

:31:13. > :31:22.possibly Roger Federer later on. But we must stress he does not have a

:31:23. > :31:25.great record at Wimbledon, Nishikori. There is a good chance if

:31:26. > :31:28.he is hell and hearty after his rib problem, there is a good chance for

:31:29. > :31:36.him. There is the chance of a rematch with the finalist from the

:31:37. > :31:42.previous year, Marin Cilic. Nishikori has a great record against

:31:43. > :31:51.him. This service would be a better one for the Croat. He doesn't give

:31:52. > :31:57.away match, Nishikori. I would not want to play poker against him. I

:31:58. > :32:06.wouldn't play against anybody, I do not know how to play poker. I am

:32:07. > :32:12.aware it is the American national sport. It is card related, I am

:32:13. > :32:17.aware of that. All this chat could be a massive hustle on my part for

:32:18. > :32:23.the game we are going to have later on this evening. I don't know what

:32:24. > :32:26.you are talking about. This often happens. Nishikori to serve for this

:32:27. > :33:27.third set. Talking about Nishikori seeming to

:33:28. > :33:28.be fine and looking healthy, we understand he has called for the

:33:29. > :34:21.trainer at the change of ends. This is far from convincing serving

:34:22. > :34:53.for the set. A rather sorry game from Kei

:34:54. > :35:09.Nishikori. It was only serve that he was most

:35:10. > :35:15.troubled in that round match with the rib problem which surfaced in

:35:16. > :36:20.Haller. Benneteau doing all he can to hang

:36:21. > :36:48.on into the set. He was not terribly engaged.

:36:49. > :36:53.Benneteau holds to love. Nishikori will have another chance to serve

:36:54. > :37:04.for the set, but it will come after a bit of video, a bit of treatment.

:37:05. > :37:09.-- physio. That is one of the ATP Tour trainers on Court taking a look

:37:10. > :37:14.at the red area and all these strapping that they have won there.

:37:15. > :37:20.It looks like they will loosen it up a little bit. The tape they put on

:37:21. > :37:24.there to try and promote Ludlow for the players. It should ease a little

:37:25. > :37:31.bit of the pain. It seems like it was just a quick snip and he was

:37:32. > :37:37.gone. It was just a pair of scissors. I thought it would be more

:37:38. > :37:42.treatment than that. Apps it was not bothering him that much, just a bit

:37:43. > :37:46.tight. -- perhaps it was not bothering him that much. I was

:37:47. > :37:51.looking at the Serbs. He tosses the ball up and his left arm extends and

:37:52. > :38:00.it does not look like he was getting the same type of lean back -- I was

:38:01. > :38:02.looking at the serves. It would make sense. He might try some Michael

:38:03. > :38:15.Chang under arms serving! Moving on forcefully now, Kei

:38:16. > :40:33.Nishikori. He has the set, Kei Nishikori. He

:40:34. > :40:38.leads by two sets to one. We are going to quickly have a challenge

:40:39. > :40:43.here from Julien Benneteau but it is a challenge sitting down. He thinks

:40:44. > :40:49.it is good, and it is. Nishikori is in front.

:40:50. > :40:54.SUE BARKER: That challenge was a bit of wishful thinking on Benneteau's

:40:55. > :41:00.part. It is Nishikori who is two sets to one up. We will be back on

:41:01. > :41:06.centre in a moment. Over on Court Number One, this is a match you can

:41:07. > :41:11.see on BBC Two. It was Grigor Dimitrov in the first two sets, but

:41:12. > :41:16.Simon has come back to take these third set. It is an serve in the

:41:17. > :41:22.fourth set. You can see that match on BBC Two.

:41:23. > :41:35.And a match just starting on Court 18. Early stages of that, but you

:41:36. > :41:40.can follow that on the red button. A couple of results to bring you.

:41:41. > :41:44.Milos Raonic, the number six seed is safely through against Andreas

:41:45. > :41:51.Seppi. That ace will have pleased his coach, John McEnroe who was

:41:52. > :41:57.courtside. In the next round, he will face Jack Sock of the United

:41:58. > :42:01.States. Disappointment for Britain's Heather

:42:02. > :42:06.Watson. She was locked in battle on Court 12 against any Quebec, a

:42:07. > :42:15.player ranked 12 places above her in the world rankings. -- and the cup

:42:16. > :42:24.back. They have very similar styles -- Annika Beck. Heather Watson went

:42:25. > :42:29.out 12 games to ten in the third set. Disappointment for Heather who

:42:30. > :42:32.had a wonderful Wimbledon last year. Heather has been vocal about the

:42:33. > :42:36.effect of Twitter trolls on her in the past and she talked about it

:42:37. > :42:42.again today and got quite emotional in her press conference after the

:42:43. > :42:46.match. There has been trouble with trolling

:42:47. > :42:51.a nasty stuff on Twitter and do you think today's defeat will lead to

:42:52. > :42:55.more of that? Absolutely. It is funny you say that, because I was

:42:56. > :43:00.just in the changing rooms with Naomi Broady and Tara Moore talking

:43:01. > :43:08.about it. After a loss like this, I am so angry with myself, I feel like

:43:09. > :43:12.I need to punish myself. I do know, because it wasn't a good day, so I

:43:13. > :43:22.just went on Twitter and there was plenty. Did it in some way cheer you

:43:23. > :43:27.up? Definitely not. Why would that cheer me up? People saying nasty

:43:28. > :43:32.things. But you deliberately looked it up. Because I was in a bad mood.

:43:33. > :43:36.It is like when you are in a bad mood and you bang your racket, it is

:43:37. > :43:40.not a positive thing. SUE BARKER: I think the lesson is

:43:41. > :43:45.not to go on Twitter after the match but Heather Watson, a bad day all

:43:46. > :43:56.round for her. We will head back to Centre Court in a moment.

:43:57. > :44:01.One other result to bring you from earlier today. This is good news for

:44:02. > :44:03.Great Britain. Dan Evans has put out Alexandr Dolgopolov in three sets.

:44:04. > :44:09.He did this in the US Open three years ago when he beat Tommy Robredo

:44:10. > :44:14.and Kei Nishikori. He is in the third round of Wimbledon and he is

:44:15. > :44:20.facing a certain Roger Federer. Well done to him today. That is what has

:44:21. > :44:24.been happening elsewhere. You have not missed anything because out on

:44:25. > :44:30.Centre Court Kei Nishikori had left the court. He is making his way

:44:31. > :44:35.back. There he is. We can rejoin Jim and Andy.

:44:36. > :44:52.ANDREW COTTER: We can look at Nishikori's serve. He is able to

:44:53. > :45:05.miss mix it around. JIM Courier: We can see where he is serving.

:45:06. > :45:19.Look what Benneteau is having to do. He is making Nishikori's serve

:45:20. > :45:31.faster as a result of having to take it earlier.

:45:32. > :46:06.Nishikori is getting so much value out of his serve.

:46:07. > :46:12.A wonderful touch again. It is the little flick of the leg after he

:46:13. > :46:37.hits the shots. -- shot. Nishikori really imposing himself

:46:38. > :47:44.now. He has to work hard to finish it off

:47:45. > :47:51.this time, but Nishikori has the break in this fourth set. This time

:47:52. > :47:59.it was not the drop shot which killed off Benneteau. But he had

:48:00. > :48:08.enough on the high overhead backhand and Benneteau now with a huge

:48:09. > :48:14.mountain to climb. The drop shot was read well by Benneteau and he tried

:48:15. > :48:30.to flick one half Nishikori will stop.

:48:31. > :50:07.He seemed little bit beleaguered when he lost that first set.

:50:08. > :50:18.Benneteau has gone into a bit of a slump now. He is upset that the

:50:19. > :50:24.royal box of 70 right now. -- so empty.

:50:25. > :50:52.A waft of the racket from Benneteau and another game goes the way of

:50:53. > :50:59.Nishikori. It is looking pretty good for

:51:00. > :51:06.Nishikori now. A few have slipped away for a

:51:07. > :53:23.moment. Not up. -- not Bob. Benneteau avoids the fate of the

:53:24. > :53:27.double break. The sense of inevitability about it now. It is

:53:28. > :53:32.difficult to see a way back into this for Julien Benneteau, the way

:53:33. > :53:40.he is playing. He has got to find something different, a different

:53:41. > :53:44.level. We have talked a little bit about the different level that

:53:45. > :53:54.Michael Chang has been able to bring to Kei Nishikori's game. The best

:53:55. > :53:59.coaching jobs have come from Michael Chang's work with Kei Nishikori and

:54:00. > :54:04.Magnus Norman's work with Stan Wawrinka. It is pretty obvious to

:54:05. > :54:09.the ID changes they have made and the success they have had. It is one

:54:10. > :54:12.of the great coaching jobs in the last two years which have been much

:54:13. > :54:21.more subtle to the eyes than are speckled with no that Djokovic. He

:54:22. > :54:29.has done a terrific job -- Novak Djokovic. There are so many superb

:54:30. > :54:37.coaches as they are called now. What can they bring? Had you ever thought

:54:38. > :54:45.about getting involved in that side of things? For better car, he had

:54:46. > :54:49.finished product to work with. -- for Boris Becker, you had a finished

:54:50. > :54:55.product. Boris's calling card as a player was a big match player. Novak

:54:56. > :55:00.did not need techniques or strategy, he had all of that, but he did not

:55:01. > :55:07.have a good record in the major finals at that point in time. Since

:55:08. > :55:10.Boris's intervention, if you will, since his interactions the results

:55:11. > :55:42.speak for themselves. It has been tremendous.

:55:43. > :55:53.I have been approached on multiple occasions.

:55:54. > :55:57.At this stage in my life with a young family, it is not something I

:55:58. > :56:14.can consider. It is intriguing to watch my peer

:56:15. > :56:17.group and the success they are having, or the lack of success. It

:56:18. > :56:47.is interesting. It is another advantage for these

:56:48. > :56:48.top players who earn so much revenue that they can afford multiple

:56:49. > :57:31.coaches. A glimpse of hope for Julien

:57:32. > :58:42.Benneteau. Superbly put away. He made it look

:58:43. > :59:09.very easy. Nishikori keeps his nose in front.

:59:10. > :59:19.The number five seed is still in a very strong position. Julien

:59:20. > :59:44.Benneteau is serving with the new balls.

:59:45. > :59:48.He certainly looks as comfortable, if not more so, on Benneteau's

:59:49. > :00:05.serve, than on his own, Nishikori. He looks freer in the way when

:00:06. > :00:09.returning serve, not having to reach up. There must be something going on

:00:10. > :00:22.there. How many times with that one? You

:00:23. > :00:26.thought Benneteau must surely get there. But again he just abandoned

:00:27. > :01:38.the chase. Timed to perfection by Nishikori. It

:01:39. > :01:40.was not even his standard forehand grip, it was more of a volley grip.

:01:41. > :02:06.Sweet. Double-faulted number 54 Julien

:02:07. > :02:09.Benneteau. It brings another opportunity for Kei Nishikori, a

:02:10. > :02:12.chance of a double break and the end coming quickly forward Benneteau, I

:02:13. > :02:35.suspect. It is long, Nishikori is in control,

:02:36. > :02:46.he has the double break in this fourth set and Benneteau now looks

:02:47. > :02:54.rather weary. Sue SUE BARKER: Yes, it is all Kei

:02:55. > :03:00.Nishikori at the moment. This match is just two games away. More to come

:03:01. > :03:12.on Centre Court. Guess who comes next? It is this man.

:03:13. > :03:29.Come on, Andy. Come on, Andy. Come on, Andy. Come on, Andy. Come on,

:03:30. > :03:39.Andy. I think we will hear quite a few then in the next few hours. We

:03:40. > :03:43.have got Andy Murray and Johanna Konta on Centre Court today. But at

:03:44. > :03:51.the moment Kei Nishikori is in the driving seat on Centre Court, two

:03:52. > :04:00.set up and 4-1 up in the fourth set. Julien Benneteau has faded, but Kei

:04:01. > :04:05.Nishikori has maintained his level and is hitting more when than

:04:06. > :04:08.Benneteau. But the French player is crumbling somewhat. Nishikori is in

:04:09. > :04:22.control. Nishikori is feeling comfortable

:04:23. > :04:33.enough to serve and volley, something that he has not done at

:04:34. > :04:39.all in this match. Nishikori is not having a great set as far as first

:04:40. > :04:42.serve percentage goes. The reverse is true for Benneteau, yet two

:04:43. > :05:10.breaks of serve for Nishikori. Nishikori has not made an unforced

:05:11. > :05:57.error this set. Benneteau is visibly sagging.

:05:58. > :06:09.That error seems to have come out of the blue for Benneteau. He realises

:06:10. > :06:15.the opportunity has escaped him. Nishikori has not played that well.

:06:16. > :06:20.He is not playing that well now, but Benneteau looks like a beaten man.

:06:21. > :06:23.Nishikori is playing just fine, it is not the full throttle, the

:06:24. > :07:17.Nishikori that we would like to see. Well, it was a bit of a ragged

:07:18. > :07:29.service came from Nishikori, but Benneteau did not offer too much.

:07:30. > :07:37.I suspect the end is nigh. He has looked very solid when returning the

:07:38. > :08:03.Benneteau serve. Serving to stay in it.

:08:04. > :08:10.A serve and volley festival has broken out here at the end of this

:08:11. > :08:33.set. That is two in a row. Turn back the clock. What is this?

:08:34. > :08:42.What is going on? People cannot serve and volley on this court any

:08:43. > :08:59.more! The game has changed, you can't do that any more, can you?!

:09:00. > :09:16.UMPIRE: The ball was called out. Not by much. It did not halt his

:09:17. > :09:24.progress for too long. Benneteau make sure that Nishikori will have

:09:25. > :09:31.to stretch that side one more time. Watching Nishikori serve in the

:09:32. > :09:35.second half of this match is reminding me a bit of the way Rafael

:09:36. > :09:41.Nadal was serving when he played in the 2014 Australian Open final and

:09:42. > :09:47.his back went out. He could not get any arch on his serve any more. It

:09:48. > :09:55.looked painful. That is what it appears to be for Kei Nishikori. He

:09:56. > :10:01.is such a good return. When he gets into a rally he looks far more at

:10:02. > :10:08.ease. We will see it again, a bit of tension added for good measure,

:10:09. > :10:14.serving for the match. He is not big at serving anyway, that it has not

:10:15. > :10:19.got any zippo conviction in it. He has more pays than he had in the

:10:20. > :10:32.first round where he was struggling a bit with his injury, but a great

:10:33. > :10:35.player though he is, as the number five seed would he be able to

:10:36. > :10:44.challenge the very top guys in this tournament? He is one step closer to

:10:45. > :11:03.finding out as he serves for the match.

:11:04. > :11:07.A lot of Kei Nishikori fans in here, but there are a lot for the next

:11:08. > :11:55.match as well. Just 94 miles an hour but good

:11:56. > :12:15.enough to stop Benneteau. Wide from the Frenchman and round

:12:16. > :13:27.three beckons for Kei Nishikori. And there it is. Finished with that

:13:28. > :13:33.venomous backhand and Kei Nishikori is through to round three. He did

:13:34. > :13:40.start a bit. He looked briefly troubled when he lost the first set,

:13:41. > :13:45.but he turned it round so well. The number five seed moves on. He has

:13:46. > :13:51.beaten Julien Benneteau. He may well get stronger as he continues to

:13:52. > :13:55.recover. Certainly better than last year when he was forced to withdraw

:13:56. > :14:01.prior to his second-round match with injury. He came in with a shadow

:14:02. > :14:07.over his chances here, but at least he is moving on. For this man he has

:14:08. > :14:14.had his last singles match at the all England Club. His ranking is

:14:15. > :14:19.well under the triple digits. But I scored to finish on if indeed it is

:14:20. > :14:33.your last. He has got to think about the double is now with his partner,

:14:34. > :14:41.a great doubles partnership. That is what lies in store for him with his

:14:42. > :14:46.brother Antoine. But for Kei Nishikori it is a few autographs and

:14:47. > :14:57.then onwards to planning for the next round against Alexander

:14:58. > :15:00.Kuznetsov. It is always a bus and the filtering out of the spectators

:15:01. > :15:16.when they get ready for the next match. Autographs, selfies, onwards

:15:17. > :15:22.towards a chat with us. Things to certainly improve for Kei Nishikori,

:15:23. > :15:32.but there is a lot of good in there as well. Victory in four sets

:15:33. > :15:40.against Benneteau. Benneteau certainly troubled him early on in

:15:41. > :15:48.the match, but he turned it around. He goes on to play Kuznetsov.

:15:49. > :15:51.He is talking to Richey. Congratulations, you played pretty

:15:52. > :15:58.well once you lost the first set. What was the reason for the change?

:15:59. > :16:03.I started playing more aggressive, especially on my backhand and I try

:16:04. > :16:09.to be a bit more aggressive. It was not an easy match, he started well.

:16:10. > :16:13.You have not been unlucky with injuries at Wimbledon. Last year we

:16:14. > :16:19.know what happened and we know you have had a rib injury. How did it

:16:20. > :16:25.feel today? It was not too bad. I am a bit sore still, but hopefully it

:16:26. > :16:34.will get better tomorrow. Does it hurt in any particular aspect of the

:16:35. > :16:42.game? When you are serving? Maybe. We had two days before today to

:16:43. > :16:47.rest. What is the treatment you might have to help that he'll so you

:16:48. > :16:51.can prepare for your next game? I am trying to do everything they can. I

:16:52. > :17:00.have got a good team with me, a good physio. I have been doing whatever I

:17:01. > :17:03.can to get better. Your next match is against Kuznetsov. Any thoughts

:17:04. > :17:10.about what that challenge might provide for you? Yes, we just played

:17:11. > :17:17.in the French. He is a great player, I think you likes the grass. He hits

:17:18. > :17:22.very flat and he has got a good serve, so we will see what happens.

:17:23. > :17:30.Congratulations and best of luck for the rest of the tournament.

:17:31. > :17:34.Kei Nishikori is safely through. It was not an overpowering performance

:17:35. > :17:39.from Nishikori, but he looked good in aspects. We hope he gets stronger

:17:40. > :17:45.and fitter. I know he said after his first-round match that he is not

:17:46. > :17:52.100%. If he can find that extra few percent, he could have a good run at

:17:53. > :17:59.Wimbledon. He has a lovely draw with Kuznetsov, the Russian player, a

:18:00. > :18:05.flat ball striker. Dangerous, but even Nishikori at less than 100% he

:18:06. > :18:10.should be able to handle it. He will get a couple of days of rest and

:18:11. > :18:14.hopefully that rib injury will get closer to 100% and he can unleash

:18:15. > :18:19.the full power on serve which he will need if he wants to go deep

:18:20. > :18:24.into the second week. Nishikori is through to round three with that

:18:25. > :18:28.four sets win over Julien Benneteau. SUE BARKER: Do not go anywhere

:18:29. > :18:33.because Andy Murray will be next on Centre Court and we will be back

:18:34. > :18:40.with him. On Court 18 Angelique Kerber is in action and asset and a

:18:41. > :18:45.break up. That match live on BBC Two.

:18:46. > :18:53.The five times champion being as Williams was given a real test by

:18:54. > :18:57.the 21-year-old qualifier from Greece, Maria Sakkari. But she came

:18:58. > :19:04.through like all great champions do. Aeneas Williams got a scare on

:19:05. > :19:09.court, but in the end she is safely through. And John McEnroe will be

:19:10. > :19:15.joining me shortly and he will have a smile on his face because his man,

:19:16. > :19:21.Milos Raonic, is through. He was up against Andreas Seppi. He has a

:19:22. > :19:25.monster of a serve and he used it today and is through to the next

:19:26. > :19:32.round to face Jack's Soc of the United States. So, Henman Hill is

:19:33. > :19:38.filling up because you know who is coming out onto Centre Court. It is

:19:39. > :20:02.Andy Murray and it is round two of his Wimbledon challenge.

:20:03. > :20:19.He has never lost an opening match at Wimbledon, Andy Murray. Job done

:20:20. > :20:32.for Andy Murray. He looks comfortable there.

:20:33. > :20:38.SUE BARKER: Yes, he is on a mission and he wants to win here and he

:20:39. > :20:46.wants to take on Djokovic in the final, but he has got a difficult

:20:47. > :20:53.opponent again in Yen-Hsun Lu. A moment ago they came onto Centre

:20:54. > :20:58.Court to a big cheer. Yen-Hsun Lu is no stranger, he beat Andy Roddick

:20:59. > :21:11.here on Monday. It is not an easy opponent for Andy Murray today.

:21:12. > :21:18.So, Andy Murray is making his way onto Centre Court. He defeated Liam

:21:19. > :21:23.Broady in the opening match at Wimbledon, that this will be a whole

:21:24. > :21:26.different match for him up against a talented player who is difficult to

:21:27. > :21:32.be and who loves the grass court as well. Andy Murray against Yen-Hsun

:21:33. > :21:38.Lu, that is our late afternoon treat for you this afternoon on BBC One.

:21:39. > :21:43.John McEnroe is here, I said you would have a smile on your face.

:21:44. > :21:50.Milos Raonic, your man did OK. Just five more to go. Easy. This is a

:21:51. > :21:56.tricky opponent for Andy Murray. I know he has been injured and out. I

:21:57. > :22:01.did not know anything about him and all of a sudden he was playing Andy

:22:02. > :22:09.Roddick and he beat him 8-6 in the fifth. He is tricky and he mixes

:22:10. > :22:15.things up. We talk about the smaller guys, Kei Nishikori being the better

:22:16. > :22:19.one, they have benefited, and Yen-Hsun Lu has benefited because

:22:20. > :22:25.the ball does not drop so high. They can control things a bit better. To

:22:26. > :22:30.me grass is his best surface and he has played more matches because of

:22:31. > :22:33.the injury and because he got here earlier and played all these

:22:34. > :22:41.challengers and he has won a bunch of matches. I didn't know he was a

:22:42. > :22:45.challenge at Queen's. He won in Surbiton and Ilkley. It is good of

:22:46. > :22:49.somebody of his stature to go and play there. He wanted to come here

:22:50. > :22:58.and play well. There is no better tonic and having wins. You have

:22:59. > :23:06.still got to win the matches. He has had 1/4-final here. He had the win

:23:07. > :23:13.over Andy Murray in the Olympics, it was not Andy Murray's best day. He

:23:14. > :23:18.has got some weapons, but I do not think it will be enough to overcome

:23:19. > :23:25.Andy Murray. Andy Murray has looked so good all year. We saw him at

:23:26. > :23:29.Queen's and Milos Raonic was playing great tennis all week and he got up

:23:30. > :23:34.a set and a break and the great players find that extra gear when

:23:35. > :23:40.they really need it. You have got a guy like Andy Murray who is going to

:23:41. > :23:49.have a good look at some of the service. Milos Raonic is huge. You

:23:50. > :23:54.have got to believe he will get half a dozen breaks against the sky. For

:23:55. > :24:00.him he has been working on being more aggressive and also on his

:24:01. > :24:07.second serve. That is the key for him to go all the way. To me the gap

:24:08. > :24:12.is smallest between him and Novak Djokovic on this court. This is the

:24:13. > :24:16.surface where he has the best chance of beating Novak Djokovic. Yes, I

:24:17. > :24:21.think so. I think having Lendl coming back was a good thing, that

:24:22. > :24:34.mental side. It will be interesting to see what goes on in Andy Murray's

:24:35. > :24:41.box. You would not argue with him. I can totally understand where he is

:24:42. > :24:44.coming from because it is weird and embarrassing at times when things go

:24:45. > :24:49.on and Murray is a better player when he does not do it and deep down

:24:50. > :24:54.he knows that and that is why he wanted Lendl back. He said he knows

:24:55. > :25:00.it gives him negative energy, but he could not stop it and the respect is

:25:01. > :25:07.there and if Lendl doesn't want to, he does not do it. Nobody will be

:25:08. > :25:13.giving those looks to me or those comments to me, or there will be

:25:14. > :25:21.trouble! Jamie has done a really good job with him as well through

:25:22. > :25:27.the French Open. He is part-time in a way and Landon will be there

:25:28. > :25:30.pretty often. But when you have an opportunity to get the guy who has

:25:31. > :25:35.been out on the tour and knows what it's like and is willing to spend 35

:25:36. > :25:46.weeks of the year with Andy Murray, day in, day out, they start to play.

:25:47. > :25:50.Ricardo Piatti wasn't with Milos Raonic and Richard Gasquet and now

:25:51. > :25:54.you have got guys who can mix it up a little. It is a good combination

:25:55. > :26:00.and you have got a couple of different ideas from the

:26:01. > :26:04.ballplayers. It is fun for me. I am not so secretly happy to be part of

:26:05. > :26:09.something a little bit more and it brings some of the old greats back

:26:10. > :26:14.in the mix a little bit and it is fun. He will want to get out of you

:26:15. > :26:18.what you were too mentally, how you dealt with those big point and it is

:26:19. > :26:23.good to speak to somebody who has been there and done it on the big

:26:24. > :26:28.stage. You have hit the nail on the head. That is exactly why Lendl was

:26:29. > :26:33.hired in the first place. Unfortunately I was the victim, but

:26:34. > :26:39.he had lost three or four finals and Grand Slams before he beat me in the

:26:40. > :26:45.French, among other places. I unleashed a monster! With Andy

:26:46. > :26:48.Murray he had the same issue, he had lost a bunch of finals and having

:26:49. > :26:55.someone who has been there and done that and overcome it is quite nice.

:26:56. > :27:01.I think that is a big part of why he won Wimbledon and the Olympics. He

:27:02. > :27:05.was more aggressive when he was under Lendl. I was watching the

:27:06. > :27:11.practice session this morning and he will be attacking today. He has to

:27:12. > :27:15.prepare for this, he has to start being aggressive and play that way

:27:16. > :27:19.if he wants to win the tournament. I think he will take some chances

:27:20. > :27:23.today and is big hitting from Murray and aggressive when he gets the

:27:24. > :27:28.chance. The second serve is key and that is something he will think

:27:29. > :27:37.about. Did he get you with the serve? He is a big target! But he

:27:38. > :27:42.has improved his second serve and he has gone back to the drawing board

:27:43. > :27:45.and he did that in the spring and he changed a couple of things

:27:46. > :27:49.technically and it is good when you are world number two and you still

:27:50. > :27:54.want to make those adjustments. He has got no choice if he wants to win

:27:55. > :27:59.more majors. That is the beauty of these last ten years. Rafael Nadal,

:28:00. > :28:07.Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are forcing each other to get better. He

:28:08. > :28:12.has got great hands, he has to take it to the net. Novak Djokovic does

:28:13. > :28:17.that very well now. Roger Federer is doing it because of aid, but to Andy

:28:18. > :28:23.Murray would be better if he started doing as well. John, thank you very

:28:24. > :28:28.much. We should be in for some lovely rallies in this match. Sit

:28:29. > :28:36.back and enjoy with John McEnroe and Simon Reade.

:28:37. > :29:02.So... Lu a winner over Andy in 2008. GZ was one of those his worst

:29:03. > :29:10.defeats. Not repealed. The 2008 Beijing 01 pics. But since then, he

:29:11. > :29:15.has dropped a set to Lu. Not can he continue that? They're hoping so. --

:29:16. > :29:42.has not. John's joined me. Do you expect Lu

:29:43. > :29:53.to take it to Andy? I do. Played a lot recently. That has helped. Going

:29:54. > :30:11.to the minors. But this is the ultimate. Controlled, aggressive.

:30:12. > :30:24.Lu is not the type of guy to come in and hit volleys. But times the ball

:30:25. > :31:02.well. He needs a start like this. An early lead would be huge for him.

:31:03. > :31:48.That wasn't the drop shot... Murray usually good with that. Way too far

:31:49. > :31:49.over the net. Lu fifth speedy enough to handle it. Ball was out the

:31:50. > :32:22.picture. Couple of break points. That is how you want to hit it. Lu,

:32:23. > :32:29.firey start! And thought to these extra belief. You mentioned the

:32:30. > :32:38.dehydration, but he defeated them, at the Olympics. Hang your hat on

:32:39. > :32:47.that. Make you believe. Missed a lot of time with surgery. Four months.

:32:48. > :32:53.Looking sharp. Saw him on the practice court. You mentioned

:32:54. > :32:55.aggressiveness. He was at the baseline. That is what he wants to

:32:56. > :33:17.do, against Murray. Moving as well as I've ever seen

:33:18. > :33:38.him. Surprising, Murray the tighter of the two, at least early.

:33:39. > :33:49.Risky, on the first serve, to go bigger. The percentage will drop.

:33:50. > :34:25.Murray is going to attack. Be sure of that.

:34:26. > :34:37.Lu looking very steady. These rallies you expect Murray to win. Lu

:34:38. > :34:57.looking strong. I don't know what's stranger, the

:34:58. > :35:24.forehand or the grunt! Sounds like he's saying something!

:35:25. > :35:45.Whatever it is, working so far. A dream start for Lu who is on a roll.

:35:46. > :35:53.11 successive matches. Challengers. First round here. Beat Kudryavtsev

:35:54. > :36:15.in straight last guy he lost to on grass, Dustin

:36:16. > :36:52.Brown. Some entertainment tomorrow. Put that on centre! Early request.

:36:53. > :37:08.No doubt Murray has the greater firepower. Both wings. Bigger,

:37:09. > :37:22.stronger version than Lu. Over time that will have an effect.

:37:23. > :37:36.Why don't they wait longer? This is Murray playing. Pride of GB. A third

:37:37. > :37:46.of the seats empty! Wait ten, 15 minutes... For tv... Plenty of other

:37:47. > :38:08.stuff going around. Matches on outside courts.

:38:09. > :38:18.Well, Lu coming out strong! How good a rally was that! Depth, time after

:38:19. > :38:55.time! Murray on the scoreboard. Last year

:38:56. > :39:04.Lu played here at Wimbledon. Lost to Mahut. Dustin Brown. Undergoing

:39:05. > :39:21.elbow surgery. Happy man, out now. Healthy. Elbow seems in good shape.

:39:22. > :39:30.Embracing this. Not overwhelmed. Murray was tentative, shaky the

:39:31. > :39:40.wrong world? Rushed out. This is what the doctor ordered for Lu.

:39:41. > :39:46.Murray's dad. We saw Judy. No worries yet. But Lu has started

:39:47. > :40:09.exceptional. Backhand, so good. Haven't seen a

:40:10. > :40:13.volley as far as I know. Some times you get credit for net points even

:40:14. > :40:39.if you don't hit a volley. Subjective. Come in, force an error.

:40:40. > :40:49.Murray should use that slice on the backhand. Get low to Lu's forehand,

:40:50. > :41:13.get mishits. At the moment, in the zone, Lu.

:41:14. > :41:27.Feeling he has nothing to lose. A lot to gain. Does not open often,

:41:28. > :41:38.take time off, come back better in so many ways.

:41:39. > :42:00.They played here, 2013, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 Murray.

:42:01. > :42:18.Lu gets down low exceptionally well. Handling that slice too. He is

:42:19. > :43:30.awake, right!? Super rally! Lines hit on both sides

:43:31. > :43:38.of the net. You assume when Murray gets his game and act together he

:43:39. > :43:43.does everything better. Taller, hits harder... Turns around sooner rather

:43:44. > :44:12.than later. Lu has sweat pouring down the chin.

:44:13. > :44:31.But executing and so far. It is just an outstanding start.

:44:32. > :44:40.Best of five, such longer haul than three. That is why it is sort of, to

:44:41. > :44:52.defeat these top guys, so consistent. Top four with Rafa not

:44:53. > :45:01.here. Tough enough to get a set. Two, more so! But three!? Few and

:45:02. > :45:15.far between have upset the top players. Over the last ten years,

:45:16. > :45:26.record has been scary. Novak, won 30 straight matches! Laver, Federer,

:45:27. > :45:40.couldn't do it. Scary. Think about the other guys. Zero exactly quick

:45:41. > :45:47.thinking. That was good hustle from Murray. Get that ball above the net,

:45:48. > :46:17.nice options. Easier. Going to start peppering that

:46:18. > :46:26.forehand, using the slice to open the court up. Deuce in particular.

:46:27. > :46:32.By cystic that he is going to start working Lu's forehand more. He is

:46:33. > :46:46.aggressive, but does not finish many points, with the volley. What he'll

:46:47. > :46:51.do... Hit those balls, drove Roddick crazy, Fedrerer, deliberately short.

:46:52. > :47:05.Forcing you to make the decision, getting them in on your terms.

:47:06. > :47:19.Second tour level event of the year. Lost at Paris. Not choosing the

:47:20. > :47:32.opponent well. Djokovic. Bad draw. Same as Ward days ago. Murray broken

:47:33. > :47:39.sweat himself. Ready to step it up. Does not want to get a set down

:47:40. > :47:43.against Lu and I presume that he is going to stand closer, attacked the

:47:44. > :48:05.second serve. Lu, definitely more confident, at

:48:06. > :48:06.least to me, using that system. But Murray, student of the game, knows

:48:07. > :48:32.that all too well. Super shot. Murray is going to

:48:33. > :48:40.challenge. Caught the back of the line? Murray just checking the ball.

:48:41. > :49:17.White stuff on it. Not much though. That's the one. You could see this

:49:18. > :49:22.coming. For him, safe. He can be aggressive. Spinning from Lu. Tough

:49:23. > :49:30.to handle. Almost inside out backhand. Where's his first serve?

:49:31. > :49:45.Murray, after the second. First "come on" from Murray! First

:49:46. > :50:07.break point. Big serve. 124mph. Good time to save

:50:08. > :51:39.one break point. Longest rally by a country mile!

:51:40. > :51:52.This ball, Lu has to move for. Tries the drop shot. It was not a good

:51:53. > :51:59.decision. If you went back, checked, how many times you'd hold against

:52:00. > :52:29.Murray when you hit one of six first serves... Minuscule.

:52:30. > :53:33.Super play from Murray. Recognised, quickly, Lu is aggressive but

:53:34. > :53:38.doesn't want to come to the net. Bring him in on Andy's terms.

:53:39. > :53:53.Rebounded nicely from the sluggish start. That is beautiful. Even by

:53:54. > :54:02.her standards, -- his standards, that was special. Turn was

:54:03. > :54:24.excellent. Approach as well. Hand it to him. Move on.

:54:25. > :54:49.Challenge. Lu's not moving? Indeed so!

:54:50. > :55:25.Another bit of luck! It is beautiful, for everybody the sun is

:55:26. > :55:30.out, except for the server! Causing some complications. Move the ball

:55:31. > :55:56.toss slightly. So... Murray ahead 4-3. Certainly

:55:57. > :56:12.seems to weathered the storm after have Lu's impressive start. But

:56:13. > :56:17.Muguruza down to Cepelova, 124 in the world, but has a habit of giant

:56:18. > :56:31.killings. Beat Halep and Serena Williams. Two break points to

:56:32. > :56:43.Muguruza but back to centre. It is going better, for Andy Murray. The

:56:44. > :56:52.other thing is that the top guys do, they can taste the opponent, in this

:56:53. > :56:57.case Lu, as it turns out he's sharp. Not necessarily going to the

:56:58. > :57:02.weakness, straightaway, using the bag of tricks. As the set

:57:03. > :57:10.progressed, he saw that he had to employ something different, he let

:57:11. > :57:29.it slip. Done so. Rebounded. Before up to Lu to see what he's made of.

:57:30. > :57:34.Subtle adjustments. Move forward? New balls. That should give more pop

:57:35. > :57:53.to the serve. Mistakes continue to come from that

:57:54. > :58:29.forehand. It is a problem with the sun. But

:58:30. > :58:47.Lu's serve completely off. Better pull it together. 42% first serves

:58:48. > :58:56.in. A whole lot better than that after the first service games.

:58:57. > :59:07.Suddenly, very different match. Points for a second successive

:59:08. > :59:29.break. Four games in a row before Murray

:59:30. > :59:35.and a feeling that the air has gone out of the tire a bit. Murray made

:59:36. > :59:46.the adjustment he needed and lifted up his level. And Lu panicked,

:59:47. > :59:49.understandably in the way, because he feels he is out of his comfort

:59:50. > :00:10.zone. They do not step it up too often

:00:11. > :00:18.like this on the Challenger circuit. Right now Lu looks a little lost.

:00:19. > :00:46.Murray didn't read that at all. The momentum has shifted obviously

:00:47. > :00:48.dramatically here. He has just got to enjoy the moment. He may never be

:00:49. > :01:02.here again. That was a smart serve, sweet effort

:01:03. > :01:17.by Lu, but Murray just covered. More animated now. And Lord of the

:01:18. > :01:36.head. He must be playing well, Murray. -- ignored.

:01:37. > :01:41.If you do not hit your sports, they are going to come back at you. It

:01:42. > :02:05.was a good return by Lu. It is better when he takes the air

:02:06. > :03:01.out of it and lowers the miles per hour.

:03:02. > :03:12.Murray changing the point of attack. Not close. It is a big step from

:03:13. > :03:14.Murray to take. It looked like his balance was a little bit off as he

:03:15. > :03:46.struck that ball up the line. Super, much-needed. This is how Lu

:03:47. > :04:38.started out on points like this. A couple of shouts of come on from

:04:39. > :04:46.Murray, but he was rather gifted that. It was a tough shot, having

:04:47. > :04:47.hit that ball of the return. The return had some serious mustard on

:04:48. > :05:20.it. Murray could fight it off. Again the backhand does the trick.

:05:21. > :05:57.And he has got another chance to break back. An aggressive approach.

:05:58. > :06:28.It was a slightly better drop shot, but very risky. We know earlier in

:06:29. > :06:30.the tournament that Lu was desperate to get up there before the ball

:06:31. > :07:20.started dropping below the net. APPLAUSE

:07:21. > :07:31.It took 38 minutes. That he has come through a dodgy

:07:32. > :07:37.patch to take it, 6-3. Not much expression from Lendl, but you would

:07:38. > :07:47.never expect it. Never want to express himself a whole lot, and

:07:48. > :07:56.particularly as a coach. He would show some emotion at times over the

:07:57. > :08:01.years. He actually came on Tuesday at Queen's. The relationship they

:08:02. > :08:06.had in the past has been so comfortable and productive he was

:08:07. > :08:16.able to walk again right at the beginning of that event. The

:08:17. > :08:23.tournament before London, he was able to take charge. And it was

:08:24. > :08:30.super at Queen's. Your man, Milos Raonic, was fantastic. The first

:08:31. > :08:35.hour was wonderful for him and Murray just raised it. You talked

:08:36. > :08:39.about raising the game. Exactly, he is able to do something that very

:08:40. > :08:46.few people are able to do, it is about finding that extra gear. Milos

:08:47. > :08:50.Raonic hits his service as hard as anyone ever has, but Murray ended up

:08:51. > :08:54.breaking him and stepping it up and sensing the moment when he had the

:08:55. > :09:05.opportunity to take advantage. That is the great skill. This is

:09:06. > :09:14.obviously a different situation. You can sense the vulnerability of Lu

:09:15. > :09:16.seating end. Murray jumped on it. There is not a whole lot he can do

:09:17. > :09:34.different. What hurt him in the first set was

:09:35. > :09:39.the first serve percentage. If you were advising him, maybe take that

:09:40. > :09:50.little bit off the first serve and get the percentage higher.

:09:51. > :10:00.Of course that is what he did on that point and it didn't work.

:10:01. > :10:03.Murray is one of the best returners in the history of the sport. You

:10:04. > :10:41.will not get many of them back. Murray is so smart because he sent

:10:42. > :11:02.his attention. You can feel his confidence is leaving his body.

:11:03. > :11:09.Murray senses his attention. It is so smart. Go for more. And even more

:11:10. > :11:11.destabilising because he is doing it on the backhand of Lu which has been

:11:12. > :11:40.one of his best shots. That is a thing of beauty. That is

:11:41. > :11:47.six games in a row for Murray from 3-1 down. At this level you cannot

:11:48. > :11:57.give a guy like Murray another chance like that. It is amazing how

:11:58. > :12:04.quickly and how sharply he does it. You just witnessed in the last 15-20

:12:05. > :12:09.minutes how brilliant a tactician Murray is in some ways. He is

:12:10. > :12:52.formidable because he can adjust. I would like to see Lu coming

:12:53. > :13:30.forward. That is something he has got to try.

:13:31. > :13:42.Full pelt and still with the skill to make it.

:13:43. > :13:52.An absolutely fantastic point. Lu played a fantastic point and he did

:13:53. > :14:17.not win it. This guy is an athlete big-time.

:14:18. > :14:29.He covered the court as well as anyone. Actually, I'd take that

:14:30. > :14:37.back. He plays offence and defence, the number one seed here, the holder

:14:38. > :14:48.of all four Grand Slams. Novak Djokovic. 47 years since that has

:14:49. > :14:50.happened. He has just taken Lu completely out of this. Lu had the

:14:51. > :15:05.best start he could possibly imagine.

:15:06. > :15:15.He just gets better and better. Djokovic is obviously going for that

:15:16. > :15:20.calendar Grand Slam. Do you think Murray's best chance of stopping him

:15:21. > :15:26.is here? I believe so. I think the variety of shot that he uses, that

:15:27. > :15:39.slides in particular, is most effective on this court. -- slice.

:15:40. > :15:51.It looks like a Murray and Djokovic final. A lot of guys are trying to

:15:52. > :16:12.step up and close the gap and make a run of their own.

:16:13. > :16:27.That is well handled. Roger Federer yesterday hit that shot about a

:16:28. > :16:38.dozen times. It shows he hasn't gone away. Why would anyone possibly want

:16:39. > :16:39.to go away from this court? I couldn't even imagine the

:16:40. > :17:04.possibility. But when you have lost seven games

:17:05. > :17:29.in a row it must hurt and some people react better than others.

:17:30. > :18:10.Well, for a moment Lu has broken the spell. After seven consecutive

:18:11. > :18:14.losing games he gets one. SUE BARKER: Murray is still up a break

:18:15. > :18:22.of serve in this second set. We will be right back with it. Bernard

:18:23. > :18:30.Tomic, the 19th seed, he has come through in four sets. He had a

:18:31. > :18:39.chance to finish it off in the third set and lost the tie-break 8-6. He

:18:40. > :18:55.notes plays Roberto Bautista Agut. But sad news to

:18:56. > :19:01.report, Bencic has been struggling with an injured left wrist and at a

:19:02. > :19:08.set down and a break down she decided to call it a day, telling

:19:09. > :19:19.the umpire she could not continue. Her opponent was ranked 225 is round

:19:20. > :19:30.through to the third round. Bencic is the third seed through so far.

:19:31. > :19:43.A lot of drama between Jana Cepelova and Garbine Muguruza. You can see

:19:44. > :20:26.that match on the red button. One thing that Murray has an ability

:20:27. > :20:30.to do now is to kill of matches which is something he did not have

:20:31. > :20:54.before. His attention tended to drift.

:20:55. > :21:04.You do not need to look any further than Roland Garros where the 25

:21:05. > :21:08.sets, in the first couple of rounds, may have cost him because he looked

:21:09. > :21:15.pretty exhausted in the finals when he had to rise to that occasion and

:21:16. > :21:17.deal with Novak Djokovic. The more energy he can keep in reserve, the

:21:18. > :21:32.better for him. UMPIRE: Challenge, the call was out.

:21:33. > :21:43.Murray was quick to challenge. And right.

:21:44. > :21:51.You want to hit a part of the line if you can as a serve. The inside

:21:52. > :22:28.would be fine, outside would be better.

:22:29. > :24:43.When Murray hits through a couple of ground shots it seems as if they are

:24:44. > :25:07.getting faster. Taking the pace of it, now he is stepping it up again.

:25:08. > :25:22.Oh, wonderful! I always felt he had great hands. He has got a great feel

:25:23. > :25:27.for the ball and how much to put on and have far to tip the racket back

:25:28. > :25:37.in that situation. He could be a tremendous volley. He just does not

:25:38. > :25:40.do it that often. I think that would be a nice added asset for him. Why

:25:41. > :26:11.do you go and tell Lendl that? No. That is great for Murray. That is

:26:12. > :26:16.the second time Lu has messed up a point like that. Don't expect Murray

:26:17. > :26:35.to give up on something. That was a bit of a bonehead move

:26:36. > :27:17.from Lu. It will be tough to get out of this game.

:27:18. > :27:34.That was a gorgeous rally. It really did not come up at all. He was not

:27:35. > :27:36.sure that the court would count, that is why he wanted to talk to the

:27:37. > :27:59.umpire. But it did. He is still mad about that forehand

:28:00. > :28:08.at 15-40 that he missed, the passing shot.

:28:09. > :28:50.Well it looked as if Lu was going out of the second set but fought

:28:51. > :29:02.back. Still a break down. To give him credit, caught with his pants

:29:03. > :29:07.down but came back! It is one thing, to be outplayed but then when you

:29:08. > :29:19.beat yourself... We can take a look, add the placement, of Murray's

:29:20. > :29:28.serve. Not doing an awful lot wrong. Probably because this guy is not

:29:29. > :29:37.particularly tall. Not going to be a lot, on the deuce spot. Even if he

:29:38. > :29:46.gets, in, court opens up. And getting nothing from the backhand.

:29:47. > :29:58.He has got Lu where he wants him. Would have preferred the insurance,

:29:59. > :30:04.from the double break. He has got some belief, more importantly. An

:30:05. > :30:44.eventful first hour. Move to the second. A third?

:30:45. > :30:53.Lu looking to move forward a little. That's helping. Going with the flow.

:30:54. > :31:41.Not overthinking. Much better drop shot. Lu needs to

:31:42. > :31:45.stay closer at the second serve. Caught too far to move behind the

:31:46. > :32:15.baseline. Murray sees that. Calls up the drop shot.

:32:16. > :32:33.Yes. It all started with that return. Cut the angle off. Good job.

:32:34. > :33:05.More difficult smash and he makes it!

:33:06. > :33:28.But it was a beautifully delivered hand from Murray. That was

:33:29. > :33:32.tremendous. But Lu was scrambling, to get into position. Couldn't do

:33:33. > :33:42.it. A light appearing here for the guy

:33:43. > :34:44.from Chinese Taipei. Same again. Lu just did not latch

:34:45. > :34:54.onto that serve. 78mph. Just go for it. And that was a safe return. But,

:34:55. > :35:07.try that at home! Not easy to pull that off.

:35:08. > :36:01.Left the door open but slammed it shut!

:36:02. > :36:07.He can do so much with this shot. Hit through, slice, come over,

:36:08. > :36:13.angle. You just do not know what's coming. Unsettling, for the

:36:14. > :37:46.opponent. The power of that double hander. It

:37:47. > :37:47.is extremely difficult, to hit it as hard as Murray, hit it back up the

:37:48. > :39:02.line. That's why that ball sailed. Looks like Lu if the -- after the

:39:03. > :39:28.elbow surgery has kept up the road work.

:39:29. > :39:40.Wouldn't you know it! Murray rubbing salt in the wound. Couldn't go for

:39:41. > :39:46.that. You'd never pull a trick like that! Couldn't hit that many balls

:39:47. > :40:55.in, in a row! Here it comes again... Torture.

:40:56. > :41:07.Threw a pie in his face! Just rub it in!

:41:08. > :41:49.Tiredness probably brought that about. Weary looking.

:41:50. > :42:00.Murray really securing the second set.

:42:01. > :42:18.Drop shots, worth their weight in gold. Physically, mentally. Torture

:42:19. > :42:23.for Lu. You have to admire the effort they put in, to get the

:42:24. > :42:34.fitness necessary. Not too shabby now. But just think about,

:42:35. > :42:47.endurance. Best of five. Sprint like speed. So critical in a tennis

:42:48. > :42:59.match. And you also have to recover, fast. Simple as that. By the end of

:43:00. > :43:08.the game, we were gasping! Trying to help him get air! Mrs Murray. Being

:43:09. > :43:19.tempted! Not that time. Must be happy. Things are going well. New

:43:20. > :43:34.balls, finish the set off. Cracking down those serves. 128.

:43:35. > :44:46.Consistently over 125. Had a chance there. Down the line.

:44:47. > :45:03.So... Two set points for a two set lead.

:45:04. > :45:14.Steady as she goes. Murray, two sets to the good. Murray, in control.

:45:15. > :45:27.We'll be back. But we are going to go to a story, unfolding on court

:45:28. > :45:37.17, Viktor Troicki, unhappy, he thought that was out, umpire over

:45:38. > :45:50.ruled it, that has given the Spaniard match point. No white on

:45:51. > :45:55.it. Look at it! What! No white on the ball. He says it didn't clip the

:45:56. > :46:09.line. Worst umpire ever in the world! What are you doing? He

:46:10. > :46:31.believed it was out. That has given the Spaniard, match point. 5-3,

:46:32. > :46:40.fifth and final set. Goes out. Ramos-Vinolas goes through. But

:46:41. > :46:57.Viktor Troicki has not finished. Do you know what you did! Do you know

:46:58. > :47:07.what you did! You are horrible! What are you doing! This was going on,

:47:08. > :47:12.for some time. He went to the referee's office. I think we're

:47:13. > :47:20.going to hear some more from Viktor Troicki. But we can go back to

:47:21. > :47:36.Centre Court. And we have got just the man to comment. Solved the

:47:37. > :47:49.problem... Disgraceful behaviour? By the umpire, yes! For over ruling! I

:47:50. > :47:59.suppose they did not have challenge on that court. Should have it on all

:48:00. > :48:10.courts. You would think that the money would be around, to do that.

:48:11. > :48:30.He likes boxing, Murray. Giving this guy body blows. Weary, Lu. The

:48:31. > :48:41.breaking his will as we speak. Bat such -- that is such a good shot.

:48:42. > :49:07.Three break points. To kick-start set three.

:49:08. > :49:18.Remember, if you were here at the beginning, 4pm or so, warm up

:49:19. > :49:31.happening, Lu started great. Hit the ball well, cleanly. 3-1, now he is,

:49:32. > :49:40.understandably, not idea what to do. He went from their happiest man to

:49:41. > :49:44.what looks like... Finding a way to get out of here. And it is getting

:49:45. > :50:22.terribly one sided. This level, Lu, you would think he'd

:50:23. > :50:32.make one more attempt to lift himself emotionally.

:50:33. > :51:33.Seen plenty of those! Give Federer a call! Gorgeous play from Murray.

:51:34. > :51:50.Got all the answers! Painful to watch for Lu now. From the

:51:51. > :52:15.challenger level to stratosphere! Won 15 of his last 16 grass court

:52:16. > :53:25.matches, Lu. Wouldn't know it. Great defence again. Murray

:53:26. > :53:32.combining his defensive skills, movement.

:53:33. > :53:39.With offensive play. Drop shot has beffudled Lu. Mixing up his game so

:53:40. > :54:07.well. How good is that? What a stretch

:54:08. > :54:19.that was! Lendl couldn't have done that! Whisper it! Pretty good ball

:54:20. > :54:41.Lu struck. Sliced, stayed low. Murray down dutifully.

:54:42. > :54:59.Put me out my misery! That is a shot, the offensive looking

:55:00. > :55:01.forehand, Lendl has been working on with Andy for a while. White flag

:55:02. > :55:36.coming here? I give up! He's starting to fray big time. You

:55:37. > :55:46.can understand that. I had a feeling, the last time I played

:55:47. > :55:57.here, and it was against Agassi, I thought that the matter how hard I

:55:58. > :56:08.hit he could return. That is a bad feeling. This is one of drop shots.

:56:09. > :56:13.The the key to me, baseline in. Played needs to be moving back,

:56:14. > :56:19.moving, that is a good position to have some options. Further back you

:56:20. > :56:31.are, longer you have to travel. Nearly a smile there! Not a smile

:56:32. > :56:35.now, don't know when there would be! Possibly the end of the competition,

:56:36. > :56:45.getting the trophy. So it is not just the man, tactics as well?

:56:46. > :56:53.Always exceedingly well prepared. And make no mistake, Murray has been

:56:54. > :56:59.playing well, this has not, out of nowhere, this is just the icing on

:57:00. > :57:08.the cake, deal with Novak a little bit. I remember that book, About

:57:09. > :57:23.You, Rage for Perfection. Murray has that. He does. And some other guys

:57:24. > :57:26.out there. Trying to catch that man at the top of the mountain. And

:57:27. > :58:05.Murray, the closest. By some way. You do not want to be playing Murray

:58:06. > :58:33.right now! The only time I have seen him smile

:58:34. > :58:56.on a tennis court is when he hit Lendl in an exhibition match.

:58:57. > :59:45.He is on another role now, seven games in a row again.

:59:46. > :00:02.It looks like it is going to be short, but it has been very sweet.

:00:03. > :00:17.That is in. Maybe somebody could tell Lu that there is a challenger

:00:18. > :00:32.next week somewhere. Get his confidence back after this beating.

:00:33. > :00:43.They might as well just shake hands now. It is staggeringly good. A

:00:44. > :00:46.treat for the 15,000 inside here. A good day. A great performance from

:00:47. > :01:19.Murray. I am surprised he missed it. Me as

:01:20. > :02:08.well. Well, he deserves again, though. He

:02:09. > :02:13.has to get into the minor leagues to work his way back up into the

:02:14. > :02:20.rankings. He deserves a couple of olds.

:02:21. > :02:58.So, just the icing on the cake really. And there has been no hint

:02:59. > :03:09.of a letup. When he hit the front he just got better and better. Well, it

:03:10. > :03:14.is nice to see spectacular athletes playing their best, rising to the

:03:15. > :03:22.occasion. Have you seen that? His wedding ring. I have one around my

:03:23. > :03:28.neck. It must be precarious if he has to change shoes. I hope he does

:03:29. > :03:33.not have to change shoes too often. We used to change them pretty

:03:34. > :03:46.frequently. It would be careless to lose it like that, wouldn't it? I

:03:47. > :03:53.used to wear my ring and it felt like it on the grip. You wore it on

:03:54. > :03:56.the left-hand and you could feel it. I had not thought of putting it on

:03:57. > :04:59.my speaker! -- shoes. He is getting a taste of his own

:05:00. > :05:43.medicine. It was a pretty tough shot to win that point.

:05:44. > :06:01.126. Somebody is getting booed for dropping the ball. Finally we are

:06:02. > :06:37.there. So, Murray is one game away. It is

:06:38. > :06:43.difficult sometimes when matches are so one-sided. How would you assess

:06:44. > :06:47.Murray's performance? He started slowly, Lu was on fire. He just rose

:06:48. > :07:01.to the occasion. It is pretty hard for anyone in the

:07:02. > :07:08.Murray can not to be feeling good does now. Also we have to mention he

:07:09. > :07:22.is conserving energy. I wonder if Lendl will congratulate him.

:07:23. > :08:37.That had some serious velocity on it. So, after an hour and 39 minutes

:08:38. > :09:21.it is match point. You know when people are amazed that

:09:22. > :09:24.you miss. People want to see him finish in spectacular style. It has

:09:25. > :10:07.been a spectacular performance. UMPIRE: Game, set and match, Murray.

:10:08. > :10:19.It was a glittering show, a tour de force from Andy Murray. 3-1 down in

:10:20. > :10:27.the opening set and he dropped to just three more games.

:10:28. > :10:33.SUE BARKER: What a wonderful performance from Andy Murray, that

:10:34. > :10:37.break of serve in the opening set, but then it was all straightforward.

:10:38. > :10:43.He goes through to the third round at Wimbledon to face John Millman

:10:44. > :10:49.who put out a seat today, then why appear. Wonderful scenes on Centre

:10:50. > :10:54.Court and no one will be going anywhere because Johanna Konta will

:10:55. > :10:59.be on court. A lot to look forward to so far today. We have lost 15

:11:00. > :11:03.seeds on day four and if there is more drama to come, you will be able

:11:04. > :11:13.to find out about it over on BBC Two. So, Lu leaves Centre Court, but

:11:14. > :11:17.he certainly started well and he certainly gave Murray something to

:11:18. > :11:24.worry about, but Murray well have a huge cheer. He marches on. He will

:11:25. > :11:28.sign a few autographs. We will have to lead BBC One, and we will hear

:11:29. > :11:35.from the British number one on BBC Two because we are on air their

:11:36. > :11:38.until at least 7:30pm tonight. Everybody is waiting for an

:11:39. > :11:44.autograph from their hero who has given as so many great moments on

:11:45. > :11:48.Centre Court. So, Britain's number one man is leaving Centre Court and

:11:49. > :11:55.Britain's number one woman is about to come on. Johanna Konta is playing

:11:56. > :12:00.Eugenie Bouchard of Canada, a former runner up. If you want to continue

:12:01. > :12:02.watching the tennis, switch over an hour to BBC Two. For now, though,

:12:03. > :12:09.goodbye.
