:00:47. > :01:01.MUSIC A winner over Andy back in 2008. One

:01:02. > :01:11.of the worst defeats of his career. A fiery start here.

:01:12. > :01:17.Beautiful. Even by his standards, that was something special. Steady

:01:18. > :01:26.as she goes. Six games in a row from Murray. He's giving this guy some

:01:27. > :01:30.serious body blows. Painful. A tour deforce for Andy Murray. Welcome to

:01:31. > :01:34.day five of Wimbledon, where Andy Murray is safely into the third

:01:35. > :01:37.round of the men's singles. He has looked in impressive form so far.

:01:38. > :01:40.That can't be said for the other star names. Gone are the days when

:01:41. > :01:47.the seeds make it safely through to the second week. Just yesterday, 18

:01:48. > :02:00.seeds went out. The highest ranked world number two Garbine Mugarutha.

:02:01. > :02:06.Dan Evans lost in the qualifying here last year. He's now inside the

:02:07. > :02:12.top 100. He's won his first match here at Wimbledon. He's won two, in

:02:13. > :02:16.fact. Today he faces Roger Federer. His compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka is

:02:17. > :02:20.on Court No 1 later today. No, Centre Court today. He's first up on

:02:21. > :02:25.Centre Court. He's not worried about the weather. Nick Kyrgios will, he's

:02:26. > :02:29.on court number two. He came through a fascinating match against Radek

:02:30. > :02:33.Stepanek. Now he takes on Dustin Brown. Venus Williams was out on

:02:34. > :02:37.court 18 and many felt that wasn't fair for a five-time champion. But

:02:38. > :02:43.today she will open up on Court No 1. Britain's Tara Moore is the last

:02:44. > :02:53.British woman standing. She's got a tough match today up against a

:02:54. > :03:20.two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova.

:03:21. > :03:38.Veens first up against a very exciting 19-year-old. -- Venus.

:03:39. > :03:45.Other matches we'll be keeping an eye on, I mentioned Nick Kyrgios. We

:03:46. > :03:47.remember Dustin Brown when he beat Rafael Nadal last year. That is a

:03:48. > :04:05.must-see match for us. So, hello once again. We have

:04:06. > :04:09.retreated into the studio because you could probably see behind me, we

:04:10. > :04:14.haven't got play under way. It was supposed to get under way at 11am.

:04:15. > :04:18.We have plenty to talk about in the company of John Lloyd and Jaky

:04:19. > :04:22.Baker. It's all about the weather, isn't it, and the committee have

:04:23. > :04:26.made the decision on Centre Court, they have not closed the roof. That

:04:27. > :04:30.hopes that there is good weather on the way. They've got the radar

:04:31. > :04:34.working and hopefully we'll have dry weather. We're heading off to court

:04:35. > :04:40.number two. Play was due to get under way at 11am. No play at the

:04:41. > :04:44.moment. Let's find out when we're going to get play and how much from

:04:45. > :04:49.the person with all the answers, Carol.

:04:50. > :04:52.Sue, at the moment the cloud is building, there's some rain not far

:04:53. > :04:58.away from Wimbledon. There are showers as well. I reckon it won't

:04:59. > :05:01.be until about 1pm, 2pm that we start to see things brightening up.

:05:02. > :05:05.That doesn't mean that we're looking at a completely dry afternoon. There

:05:06. > :05:09.is still the risk of showers. Like yesterday, it just is a risk. But we

:05:10. > :05:14.should start to see sunshine coming through, even into the evening. It's

:05:15. > :05:18.a small risk of a shower. Having said that, there will be a lot of

:05:19. > :05:21.dry weather around. Blustery though today. If you're in that combination

:05:22. > :05:28.of the showers and the blustery wind, it does feel rather cool.

:05:29. > :05:32.Tomorrow, once again, the greatest risk of showers is around the lunch

:05:33. > :05:34.time period. Through the rest of the afternoon, the risk diminishes.

:05:35. > :05:40.We'll see a bit more sunshine develop. Still quite blustery too.

:05:41. > :05:44.Although it looks pretty gloomy at the moment, it is an improving

:05:45. > :05:48.picture as we go through this afternoon.

:05:49. > :05:51.That certainly is good news, that it's going to be improving and

:05:52. > :05:56.hopefully we will get some play. So many great matches to look forward

:05:57. > :05:59.to. While we await play on the first Friday of the championships. Let's

:06:00. > :06:05.look back to yesterday and Andy Murray. He was on Centre Court

:06:06. > :06:08.against Yen-Hsun Lu. He dropped his opening service game, then he took

:06:09. > :06:14.control of the match and raced through it in straight sets. Murray

:06:15. > :06:20.in impressive form on Centre Court, against someone we thought could be

:06:21. > :06:27.a tricky opponent. He beat Roddick a few years ago. But 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

:06:28. > :06:31.After the match he spoke to Andrew Cotter.

:06:32. > :06:35.Business-like, impressive performance. I suppose at this stage

:06:36. > :06:39.it's about getting things done and moving on without expending too much

:06:40. > :06:48.energy. Yeah, if possible. I want to obviously try and play as best as

:06:49. > :06:51.you can, you know. My opponent today, he'd won 11 matches in a row

:06:52. > :06:55.on the match, ten at the challenger level. I expected him to play well.

:06:56. > :07:01.He started off the match really good. I had to make a few changes

:07:02. > :07:04.and adjustments out there. Ended up finishing the match strong and

:07:05. > :07:12.without using too much energy. A good day. You mentioned his record,

:07:13. > :07:16.three, two and one against an opponent of that calibre, how far

:07:17. > :07:21.off your best are you? I think I finished the match really well. At

:07:22. > :07:26.the start I was tentative at the beginning, but as the match went on,

:07:27. > :07:30.I started to hit the ball better and better. Was feeling a bit more

:07:31. > :07:34.comfortable with my movement. Yeah, I just need to keep building on

:07:35. > :07:39.that. Yeah, it was a good match for sure. Contrast that to the first two

:07:40. > :07:43.rounds at Roland Garros, five setters, that can pay dividends

:07:44. > :07:49.later in the tournament. Yeah, it can do, for sure. I've never been in

:07:50. > :07:53.the position I was in at Roland Garros before. I've never played

:07:54. > :07:57.back-to-back five setters in the first couple of rounds. It takes a

:07:58. > :08:02.bit out of you physically and mentally as well, the long days,

:08:03. > :08:07.those ones as well. Yeah, if you can get through matches, obviously, the

:08:08. > :08:11.quicker the better. Don't need to be particularly smart to work that out.

:08:12. > :08:17.How has your time between matches changed? Your life's changed, used

:08:18. > :08:20.to be go home and watch a few DVDs, now you have paternal

:08:21. > :08:24.responsibilities. Mind you it's quite late, but what do you do

:08:25. > :08:29.between matches? On the off days, obviously, I have a lot more time on

:08:30. > :08:35.my hands, spend a lot more time at home with the family, which is nice.

:08:36. > :08:44.It's good to take your mind off the tennis and I find that very

:08:45. > :08:48.relaxing. You'll find it's stressful. That's nice. On the match

:08:49. > :08:54.days it's different because a rived here at the courts today at 9. 30am.

:08:55. > :09:00.I won't be home until 9pm at night. Today's a work day, and tomorrow, I

:09:01. > :09:03.get a little bit more time off. Talking about what he does, I was

:09:04. > :09:08.reading about what happens after the match. It's the shower, then the ice

:09:09. > :09:13.bath, then maybe a warm down on the bike. Then he does his media

:09:14. > :09:17.commitments, then a massage. It's a two, three-hour routine before he

:09:18. > :09:20.can even head home. Yeah, and it's such a finely-tuned routine now.

:09:21. > :09:24.He's so used to these big matches. He was kind of laughing at the

:09:25. > :09:28.question there, because he's saying on a match day he's no help to

:09:29. > :09:32.anyone other than himself. You're right, so many things to go through.

:09:33. > :09:36.Over the years, he's been so focussed on his recovery and routine

:09:37. > :09:39.and taking care of everything he can control so that when he steps on

:09:40. > :09:46.court, he knows that he's absolutely ready. And also, when he steps on

:09:47. > :09:50.court, he was talking about, "I just made a few adjustments." He's a

:09:51. > :09:55.great reader of the game. He didn't know a lot of Yen-Hsun Lu. Reads the

:09:56. > :10:00.game and makes the adjustments. He's a great tactition. He is. I like the

:10:01. > :10:04.fact on the women's circuit, other than the grand slams, they allow

:10:05. > :10:08.coaching on the court. I'm totally against that. Andy just said, he had

:10:09. > :10:11.to make the adjustments. You don't want a coach coming off after a set

:10:12. > :10:15.and telling you what you're doing wrong. You've got to figure it out.

:10:16. > :10:19.That's why this sport is so great. It's one on one, if you're playing

:10:20. > :10:24.badly, find a way to do something to beat your opponent. Andy's a master

:10:25. > :10:28.of that. He has six or seven game plans. That's what the great players

:10:29. > :10:32.have. He was in impressive form yesterday. He raised the level of

:10:33. > :10:38.his game after dropping the opening serve. That's often a characteristic

:10:39. > :10:41.of his matches. He plays his way in. Sometimes you see Roger Federer come

:10:42. > :10:44.out, especially on grass, and there'll be winners flying off his

:10:45. > :10:48.racquet from the start, very aggressive. Andy likes to feel his

:10:49. > :10:53.way into the match. You don't often see him win a match, one, one and

:10:54. > :10:57.one. This was three, two and one. This was a drubbing from Andy's

:10:58. > :11:00.point of view. But he worked everything out within the first 35,

:11:01. > :11:05.40 minutes, then it was one-way traffic from there. Just illustrated

:11:06. > :11:10.there, he talked about his movement. It's so hard to get the ball away

:11:11. > :11:15.from him. It is. And what he does is - Look at this! It's ridiculous. He

:11:16. > :11:18.shrinks the court. After a while players think well, they have to hit

:11:19. > :11:23.closer and closer to the line to have a chance to get past him. There

:11:24. > :11:26.he is. Instinctively he moves. He knows where the ball's going, he

:11:27. > :11:30.reads it. Where did that drop shot come from? No-one else would hardly

:11:31. > :11:36.have had the imagination to go for that let alone make it happen.

:11:37. > :11:40.That's why he's so special. And also, the variety of shots. When

:11:41. > :11:46.you're so used to, as an opponent, when you're used to Andy shaping up

:11:47. > :11:50.for a slice backhand, normally that goes deep. If you throw in a drop

:11:51. > :11:54.shot, suddenly the opponent have no idea what you're going to do. It's

:11:55. > :11:59.funny looked at the full stretch, chasing balls and Andy often comes

:12:00. > :12:05.up with a winner. Had eoffal has a lot of practice in matches. But at

:12:06. > :12:09.the end of the practice session he has 10, 20 of those so he knows when

:12:10. > :12:16.it comes in a match he's done it all before. He's got his practice out of

:12:17. > :12:26.the way early today. This is Andy out on court and the team, we keep

:12:27. > :12:31.talking about Ivan Lendl. Let's not underestimate Jamie Delgado in his

:12:32. > :12:35.corner. He's done a seamless job. Andy's 29 now, for any new people to

:12:36. > :12:38.come into the camp, it's really about how do they settle in. They

:12:39. > :12:42.don't want to come in and change anything. He's doing so well. He's

:12:43. > :12:47.obviously won two Grand Slam titles. He's very relaxed just now. Coming

:12:48. > :12:50.into the grass, having had his best ever clay court season, he must be

:12:51. > :12:53.feeling great. I bumped into his a few times in the morning and at

:12:54. > :12:57.Wimbledon he drives himself into the courts. That's basically his quiet

:12:58. > :13:01.time. Nobody comes in the car H edrives himself. When he arrives,

:13:02. > :13:06.he's ready for business. Going through the motions, he's going to

:13:07. > :13:09.attack. Practising the volleys here. That's his motivation here, his goal

:13:10. > :13:12.to keep being aggressive and keep going forward throughout the

:13:13. > :13:18.tournament. Absolutely. What I like about him, I like the second serve

:13:19. > :13:21.has been a big improvement, technically and the pace he hits

:13:22. > :13:29.now, I love the way now he takes on the ball on the service returns as

:13:30. > :13:33.well, moving in closer. If you get a second serve, if you don't hit it

:13:34. > :13:36.close to the line, he's all over you. Then you're done. Little

:13:37. > :13:40.adjustments that he's made and he can keep doing that. He sees the

:13:41. > :13:46.ball so early. He's so technically proficient. He can make the

:13:47. > :13:51.adjustments when he needs to. Tomorrow he's back on court, what do

:13:52. > :13:56.we know about John Millman. I've played him a few times, a few years

:13:57. > :14:00.ago. He's a standard, modern-day player, baseline. He won't do

:14:01. > :14:03.anything particularly differently to the other players. He doesn't have a

:14:04. > :14:09.huge amount of variety. This is where these types of matches

:14:10. > :14:13.fascinating for Ivan Lendl in the camp. They have to focus on every

:14:14. > :14:18.single round. Andy knows now if he goes on the court against these

:14:19. > :14:22.guys, if he plays six, seven out of ten, he's going to win. I'm

:14:23. > :14:25.intrigued as to how much the conversation between those guys

:14:26. > :14:30.early in the tournament is - how do we get close to Djokovic? How do we

:14:31. > :14:34.bridge that gap and win that match? He's obviously taking every match

:14:35. > :14:37.seriously, but the big goal, and I think on this surface, this is the

:14:38. > :14:41.best surface for him to face Djokovic. I agree. I think the

:14:42. > :14:44.environment here is also the best as Jamie was saying, talking about his

:14:45. > :14:48.home life. I think he's more relaxed here. He knows grass so well. His

:14:49. > :14:51.movement is fantastic. I think he gets a lot of free points on his

:14:52. > :14:57.serve here. I think this is his best chance to beat Novak Djokovic in any

:14:58. > :15:01.of the grand slams. Let's do it one match at a time, it's John Millman.

:15:02. > :15:04.I'm glad I asked that question since you've played him so many times.

:15:05. > :15:08.We're heading outside because they are preparing the courts. This is

:15:09. > :15:14.really good news. The nets are up. The ball boys and girls are out.

:15:15. > :15:17.Things are looking promising, that we will get some play very soon.

:15:18. > :15:22.That is great news here at Wimbledon. Everyone scurrying to

:15:23. > :15:26.their seats. Though that dark sky behind doesn't look too encouraging!

:15:27. > :15:31.Everyone scurrying there and trying to get down to court two to see Nick

:15:32. > :15:36.Kyrgios and Dustin Brown. That's where we will go to see live play.

:15:37. > :15:42.Let's look back to Dan Evans and his amazing Wimbledon journey. Won his

:15:43. > :15:46.first match and then he faced Alexandr Dolgopolov yesterday. He

:15:47. > :15:49.came through that one, beating the 30th seed. He's through to the first

:15:50. > :15:54.round to face Roger Federer. After his victory yesterday, he spoke to

:15:55. > :16:02.John Inverdale. COMMENTATOR: Well, this is a fine

:16:03. > :16:08.start. Oh, what a way to win it! Absolutely electric start from Dan

:16:09. > :16:14.Evans. A truly convincing victory by the British player. He goes through

:16:15. > :16:17.to round three, where the Centre Court awaits him and on the other

:16:18. > :16:23.side Roger Federer. This is a fantastic opportunity for

:16:24. > :16:26.you, isn't it? Yeah, it's a tough opportunity, but you know, stranger

:16:27. > :16:32.things have happened. What an end to the day here at Wimbledon. The

:16:33. > :16:37.defending champion is out. There is a chance I can go out there and win.

:16:38. > :16:41.Obviously, I understand on the other hand, I could, he could come out

:16:42. > :16:46.flying and give me a good seeing to. It's going to be tough. I'm really

:16:47. > :16:50.looking forward to it. I can't wait to get out there. People talk about

:16:51. > :16:53.this in the context of you about opportunities taken and then missed

:16:54. > :16:57.and squandered. Do you now feel, finally, that you're on the upward

:16:58. > :17:00.curve and this is just the next stage this afternoon? Yeah, you

:17:01. > :17:05.know, I'd like to think now that when I get the opportunities I give

:17:06. > :17:11.it my best chance and to fulfilling it. Whereas before I didn't give

:17:12. > :17:15.those opportunities the chance and give myself the best chance. Now I

:17:16. > :17:18.think I am doing that and hopefully give everything I've got. I'll be

:17:19. > :17:22.out there fighting. Can you pin point any particular area of your

:17:23. > :17:24.game now that is much more solid, more reliable, much more dynamic, if

:17:25. > :17:30.you like, that's making the difference? I think I'm serving a

:17:31. > :17:33.lot better now, definitely second serves a lot better. I've been

:17:34. > :17:38.working hard on my movement and fitness. I've been moving much

:17:39. > :17:41.better than I used to. I'm looking forward to hopefully putting it on

:17:42. > :17:45.the court. What does a match like this mean for the people around you,

:17:46. > :17:49.the coaching team, family, things like that, it must be a massive

:17:50. > :17:53.boost for them? It is. But we're all going to come to Wimbledon and have

:17:54. > :17:57.a day out on me, it's not that. It's a serious game of tennis. I've got

:17:58. > :18:00.to take that opportunity which I've been given. Rightly so, I come

:18:01. > :18:04.through the first and second rounds. I've got to prepare properly like I

:18:05. > :18:08.would for any other match and get myself mentally ready for it's going

:18:09. > :18:14.to be a big stage. Can you treat it like any other match? It is another

:18:15. > :18:18.match, obviously it's against probably the greatest player that's

:18:19. > :18:23.ever played tennis. I have to put that to the back of my head until

:18:24. > :18:30.the end of the match. It's difficult, but I'll have to do that.

:18:31. > :18:33.It is third on Centre Court. By his own admission he hasn't always been

:18:34. > :18:37.dedicated to the sport. He has gone up and down. This time last year, he

:18:38. > :18:43.lost in qualifying, ranked 763. Now in the top 100. It's that journey to

:18:44. > :18:46.commit yourself, to travel round all the Challengers, to all the places

:18:47. > :18:49.in the world, full marks to him. Yeah and there's been a lot of talk

:18:50. > :18:53.about his roller coaster ride. This year alone, he's been to three

:18:54. > :18:57.Challenger finals and won one of them. He decided not to play the

:18:58. > :19:02.clay this year to put in a training block and get ready for grass. So

:19:03. > :19:05.many impressive things in his performance against Dolgopolov the

:19:06. > :19:08.other day. The biggest thing for me, as a British player as Wimbledon,

:19:09. > :19:15.quite often you see people almost kind of play in their shell and

:19:16. > :19:19.maybe just, it's very hard to express your self-as a player. For

:19:20. > :19:23.him, he was so free and relaxed. The way he played it was a joy to watch.

:19:24. > :19:30.Everyone will be questioning oh, did Dolgopolov go away? Did his will

:19:31. > :19:34.kind of fade? It wasn't that. Dan simply outplayed him, a guy 30 in

:19:35. > :19:41.the world and has been top 20. Having never won a match at

:19:42. > :19:46.Wimbledon, to come here and win two matches, they're two impressive

:19:47. > :19:51.winds. Very much. So He's had the talent for so many years. We all

:19:52. > :19:56.thought at first, top 50 possibly. His work ethic has not been great,

:19:57. > :20:00.at times, to put it mildly. The talent there, the variety he's got,

:20:01. > :20:04.it separates him from a lot of players. He's willing to come to the

:20:05. > :20:08.net. He's one of the best technical volleyers in the world. His movement

:20:09. > :20:12.is better now. A lovely slice backhand. That was a bit short

:20:13. > :20:17.there, but his variety is so much better now. He's now at 100%

:20:18. > :20:20.commitment. Whatever he does in his career, if he can get to the end of

:20:21. > :20:24.his career and say he's done, that he can be proud of himself. Because

:20:25. > :20:27.before he wasn't anywhere near 1 hundred per commitment for the vast

:20:28. > :20:32.majority of his career. Now he's stepping up to the plate and getting

:20:33. > :20:35.his rewards. Will he gets as -- get as many chances today against

:20:36. > :20:40.Federer as in these two matches? No, obviously today is a completely ask.

:20:41. > :20:44.The one thing I will say and on the grass court, he has got the variety

:20:45. > :20:48.that is absolutely perfect for a grass court. He can change the pace.

:20:49. > :20:52.He can hit a lot of slice. When he gets the opportunity to actually

:20:53. > :20:56.attack, he does that. And he does have the hands and he has the court

:20:57. > :21:00.positional sense to come into the net. Perhaps the biggest thing today

:21:01. > :21:04.from Dan's point of view is that his attitude, I know the way he is and

:21:05. > :21:08.his personality, he won't be overawed by the situation. He

:21:09. > :21:11.doesn't come out and think, oh, I'm playing Federer, I have to be

:21:12. > :21:16.respectful and play a nice match. He's had wins in Davis Cups that he

:21:17. > :21:18.had no right to win, frankly. I think it's going to be a match

:21:19. > :21:23.today. That stands out. He's a gritty competitor. Yeah, and I agree

:21:24. > :21:26.with Jamie. I think he'll embrace the occasion. I think he has that

:21:27. > :21:31.mind set. Whatever happens in this match, the crowd will be treated.

:21:32. > :21:34.Because Federer obviously, the talent he's got, but Dan Evans,

:21:35. > :21:37.people will be surprised how talented he is. There will be great

:21:38. > :21:42.points that happen in this match no matter what happens. I'm looking

:21:43. > :21:45.forward to. It I think he will do better than people think. Where will

:21:46. > :21:50.he hurt Federer or where is he going to win his points? By being agracive

:21:51. > :21:54.and -- aggressive and with variety. In the Dolgopolov match, he was

:21:55. > :21:57.running around the second serve and hitting a big forehand early in the

:21:58. > :22:01.point. He has a really good slice. I know Federer has perhaps one of the

:22:02. > :22:05.best slices ever. But Dan has the game on the grass court where if

:22:06. > :22:09.Federer is spraying a few errors and is a bit off, I have a feeling that

:22:10. > :22:13.Dan, there's a different feel about him. He's very focussed. He's not

:22:14. > :22:16.looking around on the court as much. He mentioned in his interview,

:22:17. > :22:21.physically he's invested. He's moving really well on the court. I'm

:22:22. > :22:27.making it sound as if he has a chance to beat Federer! You've

:22:28. > :22:30.convinced me. I wouldn't be amazed if it ended up being a close match.

:22:31. > :22:34.There are question marks about Federer. People wondering, is the

:22:35. > :22:41.injury still there? He had to miss the French Open. He lost in the

:22:42. > :22:45.semifinals. He doesn't look as if he's moving as well as f in past

:22:46. > :22:49.year. If you're going to play Roger Federer, this is the best chance

:22:50. > :22:54.you've got. He hasn't the wins he normally has. He hasn't had the

:22:55. > :22:59.match play. When you look at Roger Federer over his career has

:23:00. > :23:03.basically been injury-free. He's always had perfect preparation for

:23:04. > :23:06.the plans. He hasn't had that block that he normally plays this year. If

:23:07. > :23:10.you're going to beat Roger Federer, which is a big "if", this is the

:23:11. > :23:17.time to do it. It's gay opportunity for Dan -- it's a good opportunity

:23:18. > :23:21.for Dan Evans. That is the third match on Centre Court. The last

:23:22. > :23:28.woman in the main draw is Tara Moore. She came through and today

:23:29. > :23:30.she takes on Svetlana Kuznetsova, a two-time Grand Slam winner. Let's

:23:31. > :23:43.hear from Tara. COMMENTATOR: It's long! And Tara

:23:44. > :23:47.Moore screams with delight. Now that you've had a chance for things to

:23:48. > :23:50.sink in since your first win at a Grand Slam, your first win at

:23:51. > :23:56.Wimbledon, how satisfied are you with that? Enormously satisfied.

:23:57. > :24:01.It's always great to win at a Grand Slam. I do think that being a home

:24:02. > :24:05.Grand Slam makes it that much better. The end game is definitely

:24:06. > :24:09.not just winning one round at a Grand Slam. My end game is to make

:24:10. > :24:15.the second week and eventually, hopefully, win one. That's every

:24:16. > :24:20.tennis player's dream. If you ask any little girl or boy in tennis

:24:21. > :24:24.that's what they want to do. One of the things you've spoken about is

:24:25. > :24:28.the bigger picture. People find it a bit dangerous to specify targets.

:24:29. > :24:31.Are you that type of person? I think targets are very important to have.

:24:32. > :24:36.I think that they're something that you can work towards and you have a

:24:37. > :24:40.goal at the end of the day. I think that's very important. For me, I

:24:41. > :24:44.just want to go out there and play the best tennis I possibly can.

:24:45. > :24:48.Whether I'm ranked top 100, top 50, who knows. I can't, I won't be able

:24:49. > :24:52.to guess or speculate or anything like that. I enjoy tennis. That's

:24:53. > :24:56.ultimately what I want to keep doing. Quite an exciting

:24:57. > :24:59.second-round match against Svetlana Kuznetsova. What do you think of her

:25:00. > :25:05.game? What do you think of her reputation? Obviously, she's a great

:25:06. > :25:08.tennis player. She's definitely had great results. She's playing well. I

:25:09. > :25:13.watched her play a bit yesterday. You know it's going to be tough out

:25:14. > :25:17.there for sure. Whichever opponent you play and especially someone that

:25:18. > :25:20.experienced, it's going to be tough. I'm just going to go out there and

:25:21. > :25:24.hopefully have the element of surprise. She doesn't really know me

:25:25. > :25:28.that well. Yeah, hopefully I can go out there and give it a good run. In

:25:29. > :25:31.the bigger picture, where does playing against a player of her

:25:32. > :25:35.stature on one of the show courts at Wimbledon fit in for you? That's

:25:36. > :25:41.what everyone works towards. Playing on a show court is everyone's dream.

:25:42. > :25:42.It's definitely been one of mine. It's going to be really good fun

:25:43. > :25:48.It's going to be reallygood fun good fun ( We hope she really does

:25:49. > :25:52.enjoy it. Play is getting under way. We will head out there live when

:25:53. > :25:57.play starts. It's a great story. We talk about gritty competitors, she's

:25:58. > :26:00.another. Yeah, she is. Her game style suits the grass quite well.

:26:01. > :26:04.She can hit a slice backhand, which takes well on the surface. She has a

:26:05. > :26:08.big forehand when she goes for. It I saw her play in Nottingham in the

:26:09. > :26:13.pre-Wimbledon tournaments. She did well at Eastbourne. She's won a lot

:26:14. > :26:15.of matches on the grass. She's playing against a Grand Slam

:26:16. > :26:19.champion, it's a very tough match. If she has got a chance, it's going

:26:20. > :26:24.to be a grass court. We wish her well. She is playing later on this

:26:25. > :26:28.afternoon out on court number three. Jamie, thank you for the moment.

:26:29. > :26:32.Don't go anywhere. We hear that there might be rain around here at

:26:33. > :26:37.Wimbledon. But the good news is that play is looking to get under way on

:26:38. > :26:42.Court No 1. It's an eagerly awaited match here, the entertaining and

:26:43. > :26:46.sometimes controversial Nick Kyrgios against the flamboyant Dustin Brown,

:26:47. > :26:48.who famously knocked out Rafael Nadal last year. They're also good

:26:49. > :26:58.friends. # See the way he walks down the

:26:59. > :27:02.street # Watch the way he shuffles his

:27:03. > :27:06.feet... COMMENTATOR: Oh, you're kidding me!

:27:07. > :27:21.That's impossible. Have a look at that. Inspiration.

:27:22. > :27:26.# Just because he doesn't do what everybody else does

:27:27. > :27:32.# That's no reason why I can't give him all my love

:27:33. > :27:36.UMPIRE: Game, set, match. COMMENTATOR: Another dream comes

:27:37. > :27:45.true on Centre Court. Next up Nick Kyrgios, describe him

:27:46. > :27:50.in three words. Talented, crazy and nice. To me, as a friend, he's a

:27:51. > :27:54.really nice guy. Never had any issues with you or anything. It's

:27:55. > :27:59.going to be a good match, hopefully, for people to watch. I'm looking

:28:00. > :28:05.forward to it. He just waits for this time of the year. He's a good

:28:06. > :28:10.friend of mine as well. When you're playing against a guy like Dustin,

:28:11. > :28:13.you know it's not a day that he can't feel it, he just enjoys it. We

:28:14. > :28:17.all know what he can do and is capable of. He's a great player as

:28:18. > :28:22.well and is exciting. I'm ready to have fun out there. Two great

:28:23. > :28:26.entertainers on the court, a great crowd pleaser. Hopefully we can show

:28:27. > :28:32.good tennis. Both of us want to win. I'm sure the crowd will have fun.

:28:33. > :28:36.That's why we couldn't go anywhere else at 11. 11.30am. We're heading

:28:37. > :28:41.out to court number two. The bad news is, I hear there is rain

:28:42. > :28:44.around. The nets are am cog down elsewhere and -- are coming down

:28:45. > :28:52.elsewhere and indeed on court number two as well. The umbrellas are up. I

:28:53. > :28:55.hope they enjoyed the warm up. Hugely disappointing for everyone

:28:56. > :28:59.involved here, so looking forward to that match. They came on court and

:29:00. > :29:03.now they are off and we have to sit and wait. This is so frustrating for

:29:04. > :29:07.the players, isn't it? Yeah, it was just getting a lot brighter. But we

:29:08. > :29:12.were expecting these showers. And also the crowd especially for this

:29:13. > :29:16.match, they'd probably got in there getting ready. This sort of weather

:29:17. > :29:21.will affect the tennis as well. Not only is it wet and the court surface

:29:22. > :29:25.is going to be greasy and slippery, it's cold and it's not, it's not the

:29:26. > :29:31.best weather to play great tennis in. Wednesday night everybody was on

:29:32. > :29:34.court for about an hour, it was not very summer-like. It's cold. The

:29:35. > :29:39.surface is greasy. It affects tactics of the players. Especially

:29:40. > :29:43.on the grass, when it's so quick, if you get in the first hit, it's hard

:29:44. > :29:47.to recover. Dustin Brown is a great story. He beat Rafael Nadal. His

:29:48. > :29:50.ranking wasn't high enough to get into Wimbledon, the committee

:29:51. > :29:55.rewarded him for what he did last year by giving him a wildcard. It's

:29:56. > :29:59.nice that happens. And having beaten Nadal on Centre Court you can't deny

:30:00. > :30:02.he deserves another chance and having won his first-round match.

:30:03. > :30:06.This match with Kyrgios will be so entertaining. In today's day and

:30:07. > :30:12.age, when everybody is so professional and you don't get the

:30:13. > :30:16.characters like the McEnroes and Connors, to see Kyrgios and Brown,

:30:17. > :30:16.it's so rare these days. The crowd love.

:30:17. > :30:30.It Kyrgios and number one. You watching

:30:31. > :30:34.play, and with the weaponry he has and massive forehand, the serve, you

:30:35. > :30:39.can do 20 aces the blink of an eye. To have that before you start, it

:30:40. > :30:47.puts so much pressure on opponents, especially grass. With someone of

:30:48. > :30:52.his style, with his crazy and relaxation, he is so can't stop max

:30:53. > :30:57.picked them as one of the six who could win it, because he has that

:30:58. > :31:01.big game. Jamie, thank you. Sadly, we have not been able to bring you

:31:02. > :31:09.any live tennis but we will bring you some tennis from yesterday, and

:31:10. > :31:18.it took place on Centre Court, it was Britain's Jo Konta against the

:31:19. > :31:41.champion, and we can join it at the start of the third set.

:31:42. > :32:18.Of course, to other bits of intrigue, Konta playing in her home

:32:19. > :32:30.country. These two had never played before

:32:31. > :32:39.because Konta was ranked at a high enough level. I have a feeling

:32:40. > :32:40.Eugenie would not have known her, they were living in different

:32:41. > :34:42.worlds. First 44 Eugenie, just decelerated

:34:43. > :34:44.there. These double faults became an issue when she was closing out her

:34:45. > :35:12.first-round match. Nicely constructed point, good

:35:13. > :35:14.footwork from Bouchard, get enough room on that background and very

:35:15. > :36:21.deliberate volley. Slight missed opportunity, a second

:36:22. > :36:39.serve. Just got underneath the ball too much, need a bit more cover.

:36:40. > :36:48.It stuck. Konta building pressure in this opening game of the final set.

:36:49. > :37:18.Can Eugenie hang on? Beautiful the way Bouchard attacked

:37:19. > :37:23.that forehand. Didn't make this a mistake there, inside the baseline,

:37:24. > :38:01.hit back ball on the rise. She was robbing Konta of time.

:38:02. > :39:50.Not able to get that early break. And Bouchard winning that game.

:39:51. > :39:57.This time in the evening, a bit of moisture in the green section of the

:39:58. > :40:01.court. The baseline starting to rip up now and the court playing far

:40:02. > :40:08.harder than it was a couple of days ago. I think it is the way the

:40:09. > :40:14.players like it. The first couple of days, very greasy and I'm sure the

:40:15. > :40:19.players didn't feel like they had enough traction, on the edge of

:40:20. > :40:37.slipping. We have had the odd drop of rain here.

:40:38. > :41:07.At one double faults until this game, now two already.

:41:08. > :41:17.That is a magnificent forehand, stayed down, what an angle. The

:41:18. > :41:26.forehand has improved, and particular he is sharp angle. --

:41:27. > :42:22.particularly. Fabulous! To get the break in this

:42:23. > :42:28.deciding set. Bouchard was withstanding some punishing blows,

:42:29. > :42:35.great events to hang in the point. I think that ball was going long. I

:42:36. > :42:44.think onto missed out, four or five shots back when she didn't take that

:42:45. > :42:45.high ball out of the air. It is turning out to be small margins in

:42:46. > :43:05.this contest. APPLAUSE

:43:06. > :43:56.Bouchard not giving Konta an angle, Konta says she will go right at her.

:43:57. > :44:15.Stunning! That is resilient, after getting her serve broken.

:44:16. > :44:23.Had three chances to break Bouchard in the opening game of this final

:44:24. > :44:47.set, three more. GROANS FROM CROWD

:44:48. > :44:54.two missed returns, Konta has to get this in play, to keep the pressure

:44:55. > :45:26.on. On this surface, more than any

:45:27. > :45:31.other, you have to have happy feet, because you might get the odd bounce

:45:32. > :45:34.at the last second you need to adjust. Bouchard doing a great job,

:45:35. > :45:47.winning seven from ten. And this is the resilience from here

:45:48. > :45:52.that we did not see last year, she'll looked miserable on the

:45:53. > :45:57.tennis court, as if she will never anywhere but hitting a tennis ball.

:45:58. > :46:05.It is hard to watch at times. Bouchard is back.

:46:06. > :46:26.UMPIRE: Correction, ball is good. UMPIRE: Treble is calling. That is

:46:27. > :46:44.confidence for you. The Canadian number one is flying

:46:45. > :47:48.now, and springs into a 3-0 lead. There is her younger brother,

:47:49. > :47:54.William, and with her when she made the final. Her mum, Julie, and she

:47:55. > :47:58.has another sister, Charlotte, and a twin sister, Beatrix, they look

:47:59. > :48:05.similar but have different personalities. Eugenie is the goal

:48:06. > :48:12.orientated one. A slight obsession with the British Royal family, when

:48:13. > :48:16.it comes to naming her family. Eugenie calls her mum a closeted

:48:17. > :48:22.royalist. I did not know such a thing existed. I think she is out of

:48:23. > :49:03.the closet now. He looks like he's going to jump

:49:04. > :49:06.over that wall, he is so excited at the level Eugenie is playing at

:49:07. > :49:43.today. Having seen Eugenie playlist

:49:44. > :49:52.competent in a while, that second serve, 98 mph, and Bouchard seeing

:49:53. > :49:58.it and attacking. Ten two make an Konta play the not taken those

:49:59. > :51:14.opportunities if you're on in those games -- Bouchard making Konta.

:51:15. > :51:33.Did not do enough with that volley. Just to the left of her coach there,

:51:34. > :51:38.World Cup captain for Canada. Both men looking very happy with Eugenie

:51:39. > :52:12.now, and so they should become it is another break point.

:52:13. > :52:24.Konta is starting, excuse me, Bouchard is reading that serve on

:52:25. > :52:58.the second serve of Konta. Jo Konta has two mix it up.

:52:59. > :53:13.GROANS FROM CROWD that is a rather deflated Centre Court crowd and now,

:53:14. > :53:18.apart from that little area, as Bouchard at break. Her knee hit the

:53:19. > :53:22.ground there. What has been happening over the last ten minutes?

:53:23. > :53:31.Bouchard has raised the level of her game, she has played in more big

:53:32. > :53:37.matches. Maybe that little lack of experience on the big stage for

:53:38. > :53:41.Konta is showing up, just marginally. It doesn't take much in

:53:42. > :53:55.a high-quality match like this to turn it.

:53:56. > :54:09.UMPIRE: Correction. I haven't seen too many Centre Court matches with

:54:10. > :54:18.so many overrules from the chair. The umpire has another one right.

:54:19. > :54:27.Gold stars for the woman from Norway.

:54:28. > :54:52.UMPIRE: I didn't stop it, you stop that.

:54:53. > :55:09.Her call came when I hit it. Jo is saying the lines person called it

:55:10. > :55:29.long, and that was the first indication of any call coming.

:55:30. > :55:49.She has to put it behind her, but there's a fair chance Konta had a

:55:50. > :55:56.point there in terms of the odd call interfering with her shot. That is

:55:57. > :56:35.history now, she has to reset and fire up.

:56:36. > :56:41.This is a level of tennis were Bouchard back the 20 14th, the

:56:42. > :56:46.weight she is heading with so much power, moving well, looking strong

:56:47. > :57:13.again. She was fragile last year. Oh, that is outstanding from

:57:14. > :57:24.Bouchard! She is reading the ball so well. She is only 22, she is still a

:57:25. > :57:30.young person, but this might be a better version than the one we saw

:57:31. > :57:59.two years ago. A couple of points here to take a 5-0 lead.

:58:00. > :58:26.Very few blemishes on her report card this evening.

:58:27. > :58:38.And Bouchard has stunned this Centre Court where they quite early and

:58:39. > :58:41.display of this final set -- with a quite brilliant display full stop

:58:42. > :58:46.she has come full circle from the height of a couple of years ago, but

:58:47. > :58:49.this is a young woman who had a dream, she saw Sharapova win the

:58:50. > :58:54.title here when she was just nine years old, and got the feeling she

:58:55. > :59:00.is a determined young woman, like her idol, I decided, OK, I want to

:59:01. > :59:04.be on the big stages, I want to be on Centre Court. And that 20 years

:59:05. > :59:10.of age, she made her first Grand Slam final right here at Wimbledon,

:59:11. > :59:17.and that takes some dedication to discipline and some real talent. She

:59:18. > :59:21.talks about how she felt all the pressure and expectations, if you

:59:22. > :59:25.win a match, it is normal, if you lose it was a disaster. How

:59:26. > :59:32.difficult that was for her, and now she says she feels it is 2013 again,

:59:33. > :59:36.where she's playing matches without being expected again. I just wonder

:59:37. > :59:41.if she does get back into the top ten, which most people feel she

:59:42. > :59:46.will, how she will hand a letter, I think she will handle it better. And

:59:47. > :59:53.hopefully with this man always by her side, a great coach. Started

:59:54. > :59:55.working with him when she was 12, a long relationship. Serving to stay

:59:56. > :01:19.in the match now. Got to give Bouchard credit, losing

:01:20. > :01:22.that second set 6-1 and coming out into the third set and elevating her

:01:23. > :01:42.game even more. Always having to deal with the

:01:43. > :01:52.pro-Konta crowd. They've been very respectful. I'm sure she understands

:01:53. > :02:07.it's not against her. It's just wanting Konta to play well.

:02:08. > :02:26.That's the way to finish the point off at the net, swing volley.

:02:27. > :02:36.They've been playing at quite a pace. And Konta says, OK, Jeanie,

:02:37. > :02:59.you serve it out. Sometimes those mis-hits are the

:03:00. > :04:08.best shots. Well, unfortunately, maybe just too

:04:09. > :05:34.many loose forehands this evening. UMPIRE: Miss Konta challenging the

:05:35. > :05:43.call on the right baseline. The ball's called out.

:05:44. > :05:50.It is long. UMPIRE: Game, set, match. It's a

:05:51. > :05:55.brilliant Eugenie Bouchard who goes through to the third round putting

:05:56. > :06:03.out the British number one. There is no doubt that she's back.

:06:04. > :06:05.STUDIO: Absolutely, huge disappointment for Johanna Konta.

:06:06. > :06:09.She made a few errors on the forehand. But she wasn't allowed to

:06:10. > :06:14.play well, put under immense pressure. Bouchard showed power,

:06:15. > :06:18.strength and belief. Looks to be back to her best. She will be one to

:06:19. > :06:25.watch at these championships. She has proved she can succeed on the

:06:26. > :06:28.big stage. Her next opponent is Dominika Cubulkova. These are the

:06:29. > :06:31.scenes at Wimbledon. The rain is still falling. The covers are still

:06:32. > :06:36.on the court. So no immediate prospect of play. Therefore, no

:06:37. > :06:39.chance of seeing Nick Kyrgios and Dustin Brown right now. The roof is

:06:40. > :06:47.closed on Centre Court, which means we will get play when they start at

:06:48. > :06:50.1pm with Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Martin Del Potro. That's the match

:06:51. > :06:55.we're looking forward to in 25 minutes. We will bring you more

:06:56. > :06:59.tennis right now. We've got, we're going to look back to another

:07:00. > :07:07.fabulous match, taking place on court number 2 yesterday. Agnieszka

:07:08. > :07:18.Radwanska against 18-year-old Croatian.

:07:19. > :07:33.Our commentators are Liz Smiley and Dan Lob.

:07:34. > :07:39.UMPIRE: Miss Konjuh is challenging the call. The ball was called in.

:07:40. > :08:21.Call stands. That's good hitting. She has to stay

:08:22. > :08:29.loose and that is so difficult in these situations. She must be

:08:30. > :08:31.nervous. She must keep playing the way she wants to play too, going

:08:32. > :08:47.after each ball. I'm sure her heart rate has risen

:08:48. > :09:11.several beats as well. As far as Agnieszka Radwanska is

:09:12. > :09:22.concerned, there's a lot of tennis to play in this match.

:09:23. > :09:26.But that's not say there will be. Two points away from the biggest win

:09:27. > :09:34.of her career. Penny for your thoughts. This is a

:09:35. > :10:04.huge point. ( She's controlled it beautifully.

:10:05. > :10:10.Motored up to that, was there with plenty of time to spare. All she had

:10:11. > :10:15.to do was find the gap. Now all she has to do is win this point and

:10:16. > :10:38.she's through. Just not quite at the ball. Just

:10:39. > :10:40.needed one more step. She saw the opening. Wasn't quite committed to

:10:41. > :10:56.the forehand. Again, sluggish on the forehand.

:10:57. > :11:02.That's just nerves. The feet just aren't moving. Racquet feels like

:11:03. > :11:37.it's a kilogram heavier. She's virtually on her knees playing

:11:38. > :11:41.some of these shots, Agnieszka Radwanska. Virtually on her knees as

:11:42. > :11:52.far as the score line is concerned, but she's still in it. She's saved a

:11:53. > :11:58.match point. But in 90 seconds, Anna Konjuh will come out and serve for

:11:59. > :12:05.the match. And she'll need some first serves, just to take the

:12:06. > :12:08.pressure off herself a bit. She's played herself into a winning

:12:09. > :12:13.position. Let's remind ourselves that in the first set, there were 20

:12:14. > :12:19.unforced errors almost. Radwanska hit one and then she has just

:12:20. > :12:24.gradually got better at selecting the correct shot and moving and all

:12:25. > :12:30.those things. Give us an insight into how this feels now. Well, you

:12:31. > :12:34.know the nerves are there. People say the hardest thing now, the

:12:35. > :12:38.toughest game to win is the last one. You have to embrace the process

:12:39. > :12:43.though. You can't think about the end result. You have to embrace the

:12:44. > :12:48.process of OK, first serve. Then next shot, then the next. Not even a

:12:49. > :12:58.point. If you get the process right, the result will take care of itself.

:12:59. > :13:04.On the brink of what would be a huge upset on court number two.

:13:05. > :13:37.She's off to a good start. Oh, she's done it! I feared that

:13:38. > :13:43.drop shot wasn't going to be good enough. The shot that came after it,

:13:44. > :14:24.certainly was. Two points needed.

:14:25. > :14:33.Radwanska is fighting for her tennis life. A finalist here at Wimbledon

:14:34. > :14:39.in 2012. She's been as high as number two in the world. She's

:14:40. > :15:00.seeded number three here. How can she pull this one out of the bag?

:15:01. > :15:11.Oh, no. There's a let off. You would have put your house on Radwanska

:15:12. > :15:14.making that return. She didn't. Konjuh has two match

:15:15. > :15:52.points. Just a little bit too anxious to

:15:53. > :15:55.finish the point too quickly. Desperate for a first serve here,

:15:56. > :16:34.Konjuh. Oh, no, it's just dropped on her

:16:35. > :16:40.side of the net! Can you believe it? That almost went over. You have to

:16:41. > :16:43.say that would have been a cruel, cruel way to send Radwanska out of

:16:44. > :16:48.the tournament, but look how close this was to going over. It just

:16:49. > :17:14.peaked its nose over and said, no. Radwanska showing her experience

:17:15. > :17:18.there, knowing that she is just hanging by a finger nail here.

:17:19. > :17:25.Piling the pressure onto Konjuh. Take your time, perhaps. She doesn't

:17:26. > :18:14.want to rush this. If you haven't played tennis, it's

:18:15. > :18:15.impossible to tell you just how these situations make you feel and

:18:16. > :18:31.how they can affect your play. She went to come in, Konjuh. She hit

:18:32. > :18:36.the big shot up the line, made the movement forward and then just got

:18:37. > :18:42.caught. Ended up having to retreat, the ball dropped and then just

:18:43. > :18:45.completely thrown off her rhythm. The opportunity temporarily to win

:18:46. > :18:53.this match has vanish. Will it come back? Almost two hours into this

:18:54. > :18:59.one, Radwanska has saved match points. How deep can she dig now to

:19:00. > :19:10.get another chance? The difficult part is for Konjuh

:19:11. > :19:15.now. She has to forget that she's had the lead in the third. She's had

:19:16. > :19:32.the match points. She has to focus on what we have now.

:19:33. > :19:41.For people sitting at home will say, hit the forehabd now at -- forehand

:19:42. > :20:21.now at 0-15, why not at match point? In a word - pressure.

:20:22. > :20:28.Good point. Once again Radwanska hanging tough. Finding her way to

:20:29. > :20:34.the net saying, you know what, I'm here, pass me. That's smart, isn't

:20:35. > :20:43.it? Pressure situation, it's windy, hard to make passing shots.

:20:44. > :20:46.She's learning so much and will learn so much from this experience,

:20:47. > :20:53.but will it be a winning one? That's too good. Hit that forehand

:20:54. > :21:05.right into the corner. You wouldn't have called this at the

:21:06. > :21:39.beginning of the game perhaps. It's all electronic. Can't argue

:21:40. > :22:23.with electronics. No. Oh, well played Konjuh! I'm sure a

:22:24. > :22:27.lot of the fans around this court number two thought her opportunity

:22:28. > :22:34.might have been and gone. But once again, she will come out and serve

:22:35. > :22:40.for the match. She was good enough to make that forehand pass, after

:22:41. > :22:44.Radwanska had really put the pressure on, coming forward and

:22:45. > :22:51.she'll take it however she can get it at this stage. She's showing so

:22:52. > :22:54.much character. She must have been devastated, OK, she was literally

:22:55. > :23:00.millimetres away from winning this match. With the let court. And to

:23:01. > :23:03.come back and play a game like she did there, fantastic strength. She's

:23:04. > :23:08.had all these opportunities. There's the forehand. It's not her favourite

:23:09. > :23:13.shot, up the line. Good players manage to hit the shot they know

:23:14. > :23:17.they need to play, even if it's not necessarily their most favourite or

:23:18. > :23:21.their most comfortable. She knew that one had to go up the line. She

:23:22. > :23:28.was equal to the task. She looks calm. She looks like she's got a

:23:29. > :23:32.steely determination about her, showing all the right signs. You

:23:33. > :23:36.never know, that body language can make a difference. Last time she

:23:37. > :23:40.served for it, she got to 30-0. There were good first serves in

:23:41. > :23:46.there. Then the game got tight. She certainly needs to get a good start

:23:47. > :23:57.to this game. Take some pressure off, if that's possible.

:23:58. > :24:30.It's that forehand that shows more signs of weakness under pressure.

:24:31. > :24:36.Oh, this is a tight way to start this game. A forehand error and then

:24:37. > :24:43.I think this is going to be a double fault.

:24:44. > :24:51.By the thinnest of margins. Look at that. I don't think there's a person

:24:52. > :25:57.in here... That thought that ball was in. Yeah.

:25:58. > :26:03.Yeah the movement has stopped once again from Konjuh, the feet, when

:26:04. > :26:06.she gets tight, when she gets nervous, you can see it. Just get to

:26:07. > :26:11.the ball, she doesn't get into position. She's playing the

:26:12. > :26:16.Radwanska that we know and love that's just not making any errors.

:26:17. > :26:26.Apart from that one. That was a forced error. A good first serve,

:26:27. > :26:32.107mph. Still has two more break points.

:26:33. > :26:43.STUDIO: Nerves playing their parts. Missed opportunities from the

:26:44. > :26:45.youngster. Would she get another one? We move it on a couple of

:26:46. > :27:09.games. Radwanska serving at 7-7. COMMENTATOR: That was there to be

:27:10. > :27:18.hit. Asking the questions, though. I'm not going to lose it. You're

:27:19. > :28:07.going to have to win it. Big forehand followed up with a big

:28:08. > :28:20.backhand. That's the kind of damage this young lady can do.

:28:21. > :28:38.Oh, no, no, no. She has twisted her ankle badly there. There's no doubt

:28:39. > :28:45.about it. And this is just sickening. She's already in tears. I

:28:46. > :28:49.guarantee, she is in an awful lot of pain. I'm so sorry to say, but she

:28:50. > :29:03.has definitely twisted her ankle really badly.

:29:04. > :29:08.I've seen someone else step on a ball here, a few years ago, in the

:29:09. > :29:19.warm up. She actually couldn't continue. That doesn't look too

:29:20. > :29:25.good, does it? Oh, the poor young lady.

:29:26. > :29:30.STUDIO: It was a nasty fall. She had the trainer on. She had it heavily

:29:31. > :29:33.strapped. It hampered her movement. Radwanska moved her opponent around

:29:34. > :29:38.the court, which is what you'd expect her to do. It was only a

:29:39. > :29:42.matter of time before match point came the number three seed's way.

:29:43. > :29:46.It was a brave effort from the youngster. She had her chances, some

:29:47. > :29:50.missed opportunities, but it is Radwanska that goes through to the

:29:51. > :29:54.third round, but Konjuh certainly won a lot of fans. What a

:29:55. > :29:58.disappointing way to end, in tears, out on court number two. And coming

:29:59. > :30:03.so close to causing such a big upset here at Wimbledon. She's shown that

:30:04. > :30:06.she loves playing on this surface and we'll no doubt see her back at

:30:07. > :30:13.Wimbledon winning many matches in the future.

:30:14. > :30:16.Agnieszka Radwanska advances, the former finalist, through after a

:30:17. > :30:24.real scare on court two. A big cheer for a brave effort.

:30:25. > :30:30.And it was heartbreaking, Lindsay Davenport is with me, just seeing

:30:31. > :30:34.those poor shots, you don't want a match to end like that. It was

:30:35. > :30:37.heart-wrenching, and it was tough for her to be playing of the three

:30:38. > :30:41.match points, which would have been the biggest win of her career, and

:30:42. > :30:46.not to be able to finish it, and then the manner of how she sprained

:30:47. > :30:49.her ankle. It is almost impossible for that to happen, a ball that you

:30:50. > :30:54.are chasing, it was horrible. It will take a little while to get

:30:55. > :30:58.healthy and get over that situation. But this is why people have been

:30:59. > :31:03.talking about her for a few years, she has got a great game, hopefully

:31:04. > :31:09.she will have another chance. But she did get tight, didn't she? It is

:31:10. > :31:14.very tough to always get your first big win, and in some cases you

:31:15. > :31:19.almost feel like it is better to get a lesser scalp first, a player

:31:20. > :31:22.ranked seventh or 12th, and all of a sudden you are at Wimbledon on this

:31:23. > :31:27.stage against one of the favourites to win, and she froze. At that

:31:28. > :31:30.moment, you could see all those forehands going in, then hitting the

:31:31. > :31:35.bottom of the net, and she didn't look very confident. Her feet

:31:36. > :31:38.stopped moving on the big occasions as well, that is something she has

:31:39. > :31:43.got to work through, learn to handle a bit better next time. And she will

:31:44. > :31:53.improve on that. Eugenie Bouchard really looks to be right back to her

:31:54. > :31:58.best, the way she beat Konta on Centre Court was, well, she could be

:31:59. > :32:04.for the title. Absolutely, she was playing more tennis like 2014

:32:05. > :32:08.Bouchard, last year she has talked about, she wants to forget all the

:32:09. > :32:14.stew that came into play, and try to move past it. -- all the issues. A

:32:15. > :32:19.huge step in the right direction to get her coach back on her team, who

:32:20. > :32:23.she split with at the end of 2014, her most successful season. He makes

:32:24. > :32:28.her work, very disciplined in his approach to coaching, and it has

:32:29. > :32:33.paid off. The level she has played as has been very, very good so far.

:32:34. > :32:39.We have seen it a lot as far as players are concerned, players that

:32:40. > :32:44.have come and done something really marvellous to get through to finals,

:32:45. > :32:50.then it is like the pressure gets to them and their form dips. It is very

:32:51. > :32:54.interesting, almost a theme of this generation - they play so well, you

:32:55. > :33:00.can see the obvious talent. I could Petra Kvitova in there as well, she

:33:01. > :33:04.has two Wimbledons, but so many results that make you scratch your

:33:05. > :33:10.head. They are so good, they work so hard, but they are almost OK with

:33:11. > :33:13.early round losses, and we are talking six or seven or eight

:33:14. > :33:17.tournaments where they are not getting past the first or second

:33:18. > :33:22.round. Bouchard had a lot of things going on off the court, other stuff

:33:23. > :33:28.getting in her way. I am glad to see she is in the right direction. I was

:33:29. > :33:33.hoping that Muguruza would make a strong run and back to French Open

:33:34. > :33:37.result. We lost 18 seeds yesterday in the men's and women's, we wonder

:33:38. > :33:43.what quarterfinals we are going to have, because it is a very different

:33:44. > :33:46.tournament. It has been so different, and in women's tennis,

:33:47. > :33:50.for a lot of these Grand Slams, you have the projected round of 16, the

:33:51. > :33:54.projected quarterfinals, and it is not happening any more. For so long,

:33:55. > :33:58.women's tennis was predictable, the top players would get through, and

:33:59. > :34:05.that has not been the case for the last two years, you always a

:34:06. > :34:09.surprise names. There is going to be openings here as well. We are hoping

:34:10. > :34:13.there will be play on the outside courts very soon, but the good news

:34:14. > :34:17.is that the roof is closed and the players for the opening match are

:34:18. > :34:22.making their way onto the hallowed turf, Juan Martin del Potro, along

:34:23. > :34:28.with Stan Wawrinka. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:34:29. > :34:34.What a joy it is to have this roof so we can bring you some live

:34:35. > :34:39.tennis, and what a joy to see the former US Open champion Juan Martin

:34:40. > :34:43.del Potro back in a Grand Slam of the three wrist surgeries, but he is

:34:44. > :34:47.up against a two time grand slam winner, Stan Wawrinka, who now has

:34:48. > :34:52.Richard Krajicek in his corner. He has only reached the quarterfinals,

:34:53. > :34:57.that it is best at Wimbledon. Before we join the match, we can you from

:34:58. > :35:01.Stan, he has been talking to Lee McKenzie about the inspiration he

:35:02. > :35:10.draws from a quote from Samuel Beckett. It is how I see live,

:35:11. > :35:24.especially tennis. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail

:35:25. > :35:31.again. Fail better. Normally, if you look every year, almost every player

:35:32. > :35:35.loses every week, but you need to take some positives from that and

:35:36. > :35:41.accepted, and see what was good and what was bad and tried to learn from

:35:42. > :35:46.that, to do it better. But I am number five in the world, and I'm

:35:47. > :35:54.still losing a lot. So that means it is not only negative when you lose.

:35:55. > :35:59.Richard Krajicek has come in to help you, what has he been working on

:36:00. > :36:05.specifically with you? Yeah, it was good, really happy with him. He

:36:06. > :36:12.knows how to play on grass, he has a lot of experience, about his game

:36:13. > :36:16.also, his game was very aggressive, amazing, great serve, and there was

:36:17. > :36:20.a few little things that I think it has been good for my game, not only

:36:21. > :36:25.for the grass now, but also for the rest of the year. So let's see what

:36:26. > :36:29.is going to happen now. It is the forehands that wins it, a very

:36:30. > :36:35.enjoyable match of tennis. Stan got the job done in the end, class came

:36:36. > :36:41.through. Last year, I started to feel really good on the grass, I

:36:42. > :36:46.know I can play my best game. Lastly I lost against Gasquet, who played

:36:47. > :36:50.better than me over five sets. So now I really feel confident, when I

:36:51. > :36:55.am playing, on grass I know I can play my best tennis.

:36:56. > :37:02.No reason why he shouldn't play well on grass, is there? Absolutely, such

:37:03. > :37:05.a good game, heavy forehands, backgrounds, service, it is about

:37:06. > :37:11.being comfortable and buying into your game on grass. The back and is

:37:12. > :37:16.a thing of beauty, isn't it? It is amazing, it won in the French Open,

:37:17. > :37:20.and the ability of the slice an grass, and he has the best

:37:21. > :37:25.one-handed drive, he has to get that transition game. If he is able to

:37:26. > :37:30.come to the net more, get more comfortable with that, which Richard

:37:31. > :37:34.Krajicek is no doubt working on, it could be a big factor. So many play

:37:35. > :37:38.from the baseline, it is the split step, how to move, read where the

:37:39. > :37:45.bodies are going. So much the anticipation, following the path

:37:46. > :37:49.they are travelling, it is really figuring out where to go once you

:37:50. > :37:52.are at the net, and that is something that a serve and volley

:37:53. > :37:57.like Krajicek could be invaluable with. It will be interesting to see

:37:58. > :38:02.how Del Potro does, I remember the semifinal against Novak Djokovic, a

:38:03. > :38:07.five set thriller back in 2013, former US Open champion, it would

:38:08. > :38:11.be... We just don't know where he is as far as is tennis, how much

:38:12. > :38:18.strength that has in the wrist, the left wrist. He has been chipping

:38:19. > :38:20.most of the backhands on the grass, and you can get away with that more

:38:21. > :38:29.on the grass than the other surfaces. How many forehands can Del

:38:30. > :38:35.Potro get through today? How often can stand get to that corner? As far

:38:36. > :38:39.as having an injury, it is having the belief that you have the

:38:40. > :38:45.strength, I know you are saying he's chipping a lot more, but there are

:38:46. > :38:48.still doubts. Wonder whether the matchplay you have, being much tide

:38:49. > :39:01.has gone away, because he has missed nine Grand Slams. -- match tight.

:39:02. > :39:06.Does he have the confidence on the biggest points to rip his two

:39:07. > :39:11.hander? When you take away one of his best weapons, it is obviously

:39:12. > :39:16.very hard to beat the top players. You see guys like... I don't see

:39:17. > :39:20.Roger or even Stan leading a player get away with such a weakness, and

:39:21. > :39:27.that backhand, and fortunately for Del Potro, it is still a weakness.

:39:28. > :39:31.He won the US Open back in 2009, and you felt there was going to be more

:39:32. > :39:40.to follow, such a shame. It is so amazing to see him back, but there

:39:41. > :39:43.is a little sadness. One surgery on the things were going so well, then

:39:44. > :39:45.I have never heard it, then the left wrist goes, three surgeries on that

:39:46. > :39:49.wrist. He has been fighting to get back on tour for moments like this,

:39:50. > :39:53.so it is a great opportunity, great to see him back, but it would be

:39:54. > :39:58.even better if he was able to play closer to the level he was a few

:39:59. > :40:02.years ago. We will see, we are ready for this, thank you very much. We

:40:03. > :40:05.will be keeping up to date with the weather has eyed and seeing whether

:40:06. > :40:10.the matches get going on the outside courts, but let's sit back and enjoy

:40:11. > :40:17.this live tennis in the company of John McEnroe and Mark Petchey.

:40:18. > :40:20.MARK PETCHEY: We are fortunate to be here to witness these champions face

:40:21. > :40:24.off in the second round, as is their crowd. There you see the meetings

:40:25. > :40:34.between the two. It has been more than four years

:40:35. > :40:38.since they have played each other, we cannot read too much into that.

:40:39. > :40:41.What we can read into is just how Juan Martin del Potro has suffered

:40:42. > :40:45.over the years with the left wrist injury and how much of an effect

:40:46. > :40:50.that will be today. He is up against a man that is the ball so evenly off

:40:51. > :40:58.both sides in Stan Wawrinka, bad side will be targeted by the Swiss

:40:59. > :41:05.star. JOHN MCENROE: It was targeted even before that, his forehand is

:41:06. > :41:08.one of the best shots in the sport, Wawrinka's backhand is unbelievably

:41:09. > :41:12.beautiful, and he has developed a bigger forehand. I will tell you,

:41:13. > :41:16.the players in the locker room are excited about witnessing this and

:41:17. > :41:20.seeing what these two have to offer on Centre Court. Very rarely now,

:41:21. > :41:25.Mark, because of the 32 seeds, do you get to see a quality match, the

:41:26. > :41:29.level you are going to see right here and now. This is a tall order

:41:30. > :41:36.for Wawrinka, given who he is playing, Juan Martin at six foot

:41:37. > :41:39.six. So much upside for both guys, really, this is as big a

:41:40. > :41:45.second-round match as you will see in a slam, no question. Not entirely

:41:46. > :41:49.sure, we're looking behind the umpire's chair at what Stan is

:41:50. > :41:58.complaining about. APPLAUSE

:41:59. > :42:01.Not entirely sure right now. He is under the roof, these other guys are

:42:02. > :42:05.stressing in the locker room, trying to be read out on the court, so this

:42:06. > :42:06.is beautiful ball both of these guys, knowing they will walk out on

:42:07. > :42:15.this court. UMPIRE: First set, Stan Wawrinka to

:42:16. > :43:22.serve. Ready? Play. That is what you want, to get Del

:43:23. > :43:39.Potro on the run. If he has got time, you are in big trouble.

:43:40. > :43:51.Great start from Wawrinka. It actually surprises me, watching Juan

:43:52. > :43:57.Martin in his first game, he looked like he was expecting more balls to

:43:58. > :44:02.the forehand. Well, come on now! He is going to zero in on that, test

:44:03. > :44:07.him, see if he is able to do much with the two hands. If he is slicing

:44:08. > :44:12.it, Wawrinka is going to have a field day. Backhand winners, none so

:44:13. > :44:16.far from Del Potro in the previous round, but very good percentage of

:44:17. > :44:23.first serve points won. He will need to deliver that effectively.

:44:24. > :45:21.Just a couple of tournaments played last year for Del Potro, because of

:45:22. > :45:37.that wrist injury. Keep in mind that the last major he

:45:38. > :45:45.played was two and a half years ago. This poor guy has just been bumming

:45:46. > :45:54.down in Argentina big-time. He is excited, but he is tied too, it has

:45:55. > :46:13.been a while. Way too long. -- tight.

:46:14. > :46:25.The Argentinian has played just one match against him since 2013,

:46:26. > :46:34.against Berdych in Indian Wells last year.

:46:35. > :46:41.Be as got the weapons to stay close with anyone and beat anyone if he

:46:42. > :46:46.gets back to where he was. -- he has got.

:46:47. > :46:51.You'll wrist hurts, doesn't mean you can't train with the legs, so it is

:46:52. > :47:10.going to be interesting to see how long he can last.

:47:11. > :47:15.Oh, yeah. That is good movement by Juan Martin, unfortunately he could

:47:16. > :47:49.not do enough with it. He does not get enough on that

:47:50. > :48:04.backhand, sitting up a little invitingly for Stan.

:48:05. > :48:15.The bright side is he has had plenty of time to practice. He should be

:48:16. > :48:18.better than he has ever been. He is going to need to be if he wants to

:48:19. > :48:34.stay close, if that is the only shot he is going to hit.

:48:35. > :48:45.That is 2-1, Wawrinka. He worked with Magnus Norman in 2013, he has

:48:46. > :48:49.finished every year inside the top ten since then, but one of the big

:48:50. > :48:54.differences, John, when we look at the way Stan has improved is is

:48:55. > :49:00.serve. If we look at the accuracy of it, and the placement, we can see

:49:01. > :49:05.that before Norman, in terms of the way he was serving, you can see it

:49:06. > :49:10.is two foot from the line, the green box. When he got hold of Stan

:49:11. > :49:14.Wawrinka, look at the numbers, in terms of the closeness to the line

:49:15. > :49:17.that he has managed to achieve with the Swiss star.

:49:18. > :49:23.I think what Stan did in the past was try to go too big too often, and

:49:24. > :49:27.because of that, the percentage would drop and accuracy. Even though

:49:28. > :49:31.he still packs a wallop, he is able to take a little off it at times and

:49:32. > :49:37.understand that he can set himself up better. He is so good off the

:49:38. > :49:46.ground. He doesn't need to blow it by his opponent every time. Richard

:49:47. > :49:50.Krajicek just to the right of your picture. Keep in mind, you mentioned

:49:51. > :49:59.the rankings, he was never in the top 15 until Norman showed up.

:50:00. > :50:00.Eight, four and four in the last few years, hopefully he will get some

:50:01. > :50:52.big bonuses! Sensational there. That is one of

:50:53. > :50:56.the greatest shots I have seen, one-handed. Del Potro, if he is

:50:57. > :50:58.going to run around the back and see what happens, the court is wide

:50:59. > :51:26.open, very inviting for Stan there. That is a good sign, that he

:51:27. > :51:30.actually took it with two hands to hit it with some authority. He has

:51:31. > :51:32.to do that if he is ever going to be back in the top eight of the game,

:51:33. > :52:42.top ten even. He has not unleashed a forehand yet,

:52:43. > :52:46.a pretty good indication that he is wound up here. Wawrinka trying to

:52:47. > :53:00.get the edge, get the break here, take advantage of it.

:53:01. > :53:06.First time he has been broken in the tournament, good defence of a big

:53:07. > :53:26.serve from Wawrinka. We should not really be surprised

:53:27. > :53:32.that he is off to the better start, he has been amongst the game and's

:53:33. > :53:44.elite for a number of years now, Wawrinka.

:53:45. > :53:52.For me, he has just got it in that backhand, not a whole lot on it,

:53:53. > :53:53.he's just going to eat them up and if he gets balls like that,

:53:54. > :54:19.Wawrinka. It is amazing to think that,

:54:20. > :54:26.beginning in 2014, this man has won more major titles than Roger and

:54:27. > :54:37.Andy combine. It's true! You do not realise that he has the same amount

:54:38. > :54:45.of majors as Murray, two each. He has also got Olympic gold - not in

:54:46. > :54:50.singles, but in doubles. Davis Cup. Tied up there, so looking at a hall

:54:51. > :55:00.of Fame career. He is taking a trip to Newport at some stage, isn't he?

:55:01. > :55:06.It took about a dozen years to climb a little bit out of the shadows of

:55:07. > :55:08.Federer, his fellow Swiss countryman, but he has done it, and

:55:09. > :55:24.that is pretty impressive. Yet to drop a point when he makes

:55:25. > :55:27.his first serve, and he's making a lot of them as well - 75% from

:55:28. > :55:59.Wawrinka. John, we have been talking a little

:56:00. > :56:04.bit about the backhand, if we take a look at the numbers, there is that

:56:05. > :56:09.two hand, guiding it. If we look at where he was back in 2013, of

:56:10. > :56:14.course, when he played that memorable semi, four hours and 43

:56:15. > :56:20.minutes... He... We will properly have to look

:56:21. > :56:45.at those numbers in a moment. Time! Seats quickly, please, thank

:56:46. > :57:04.you. No gremlins so far for Wawrinka in

:57:05. > :57:11.this particular contest, off and running just as his coaches would

:57:12. > :57:17.have liked. It is getting more expensive out there, John. There is

:57:18. > :57:19.a lot more upside! These guys collect year in, year out, they have

:57:20. > :57:42.got a whole team of people. Wawrinka clearly the quicker of the

:57:43. > :57:49.two players out there. He doesn't do a whole lot of volleying. Once they

:57:50. > :57:51.come on his terms, he is not going to surprise you a whole lot, as he

:57:52. > :57:58.tried to do there. That is a pretty good touch, though,

:57:59. > :58:12.I will tell you! Set up by that return that was just

:58:13. > :58:47.blistering, he was able to cover it with the shot he wanted to.

:58:48. > :58:54.OK, the wake-up call has just arrived. Maybe too late for this

:58:55. > :58:56.set, but that is the type of shot we saw the last time he was on this

:58:57. > :59:25.cold. -- this court. Del Potro comes away with a game, of

:59:26. > :59:29.course it was 2008 when this man made his first major impression on

:59:30. > :59:33.the world of tennis, that 23-match winning streak that came to an end

:59:34. > :59:38.at the US Open at the hands of Andy Murray, but it included four titles,

:59:39. > :59:59.Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel, Los Angeles and Washington.

:00:00. > :00:04.Stan does not need to hit the ball quite as hard there, Del Potro's

:00:05. > :00:20.movement is not his forte. Lovely pick-up because it was some

:00:21. > :00:28.forehand from Del Potro, again on the run. It was a great forehand, it

:00:29. > :00:33.takes a while for him to stop that body, not even close to getting back

:00:34. > :00:51.in that point. A tough shot that Wawrinka had to handle there.

:00:52. > :01:17.The fastest serve of the day, into the body of Del Potro.

:01:18. > :01:23.Plenty of purpose about that particular forehand, an injection of

:01:24. > :01:31.pace, just drag it a little wide but the timing seems to be coming for

:01:32. > :01:41.Del Potro off that wing. The timing has been impeccable for Wawrinka on

:01:42. > :01:49.his serve so far. The second ace. And a 5-2 lead. I wondered often

:01:50. > :01:54.with Del Potro as we take a look at this two hander that has been such a

:01:55. > :02:01.nightmare for him... These are the kind of numbers that will come up in

:02:02. > :02:07.terms of him riding the ball. -- guiding. He has lost a bit of string

:02:08. > :02:14.on one side. You can see that he only sliced 23% of the time but this

:02:15. > :02:20.year already he is at 65% and the speed has gone down dramatically and

:02:21. > :02:25.also because of that, if we flip it on, he has become slightly

:02:26. > :02:31.predictable off a wing that was, for much of his career, a huge weapon.

:02:32. > :02:35.You can almost go and camp if you are Wawrinka crosscourt. This is

:02:36. > :02:43.obviously an issue he is aware of and we don't know how much it is

:02:44. > :02:49.physical or psychological. I want him up in the Open in 2007, he

:02:50. > :02:53.played some up and comer, Djokovic, it didn't work out! But he really

:02:54. > :02:59.went through the motions when he warmed up and for me he has been a

:03:00. > :03:02.notoriously slow starter. He sort of lumbers around, he has to get that

:03:03. > :03:08.big body moving more quickly. I think it has cost him here. The

:03:09. > :03:15.other guys are in the gym and doing all types of warm-ups and you don't

:03:16. > :04:03.see him do that as much. That can be corrected.

:04:04. > :04:10.Stan often blocks or chips especially his first serve. To me,

:04:11. > :04:16.the Potter, just the occasional move forward just to get in Stan's head a

:04:17. > :04:21.little bit would help them -- Del Potro.

:04:22. > :04:31.He is actually a pretty good volleyer, he has pretty solid hands.

:04:32. > :04:37.Dani Vallverdu in the middle of your picture in the black tracksuit top

:04:38. > :04:44.who is looking after Del Potro for Wimbledon.

:04:45. > :04:52.They will discuss if they continue past S W 90 or not. He was telling

:04:53. > :04:59.me the other day, that he is not feeling any pain in his wrist --

:05:00. > :05:05.SW19. So if it psychological or physical? I have seen him quite a

:05:06. > :05:09.bit in the last few weeks and I keep asking, how is it? It's getting

:05:10. > :05:19.there. I don't know if that means it hurts or not.

:05:20. > :05:32.APPLAUSE Wawrinka did not commit one way or

:05:33. > :05:39.the other, good balance. Del Potro is tough to read. When I used to go

:05:40. > :05:49.to Japan, I would say, listen, can I ask a favour and they would go hi

:05:50. > :05:57.and it turns out that means yes, no and maybe in Japanese!

:05:58. > :06:11.APPLAUSE That is well played. The fans

:06:12. > :06:14.appreciating seeing something besides people bludgeoning the ball.

:06:15. > :06:39.Excellent skill from these two. UMPIRE: Mr Wawrinka is challenging

:06:40. > :06:41.the call. The ball was called out. If it isn't it is his fastest serve

:06:42. > :06:59.of the tournament. Not often that you see Wawrinka go

:07:00. > :07:01.that big of a second serve so he has got a little edgy trying to finish

:07:02. > :07:37.off this first set. ENCOURAGEMENT FROM CROWD

:07:38. > :07:41.I don't know if Stan challenged that but apparently not, this could be

:07:42. > :07:46.huge for Del Potro to sneak back into this set.

:07:47. > :07:53.He hit that line and it changed the flight of the ball that little bit

:07:54. > :08:32.which caused him to miss. He has had a little slip which is a

:08:33. > :08:38.shame because he did incredibly well to get back into the point. I hope

:08:39. > :08:51.it's nothing serious. I think he's OK, he just slipped. It is easy to

:08:52. > :08:52.sit here and say it but he had a chance with that forehand and he

:08:53. > :09:16.just has too let it fly. This is good serving from Wawrinka.

:09:17. > :09:21.That is what he is thinking right about now, why didn't I just blast

:09:22. > :09:31.on that one? The bread and butter was there for him. He has been a

:09:32. > :09:38.little tentative in this set. What a smart serve that was. It had

:09:39. > :09:40.everything, placement, balance, width, and it gives him the opening

:09:41. > :09:55.set as well. This is the serve he loves to hit

:09:56. > :10:01.and you had better not be surprised if you are Del Potro Ulster PE is

:10:02. > :10:09.zeroing in on his weakness, he prefers the kick anyway -- if you

:10:10. > :10:14.are Del Potro. He is zeroing in. I am sad and in some ways because I

:10:15. > :10:20.have always liked Juan Martin and I'm pulling for him as pretty much

:10:21. > :10:25.every player in the locker room is. Nobody deserves the fate he has had

:10:26. > :10:37.for these last three or four years. He wins the US Open. He beat Nadal

:10:38. > :10:44.two, two, two in the semis. I have an additional soft spot because his

:10:45. > :10:52.birthday is the same as one of my sons, and Bruce Springsteen! You see

:10:53. > :10:56.him hit that backhand and you are like, oh man, there is just nothing

:10:57. > :11:02.on it. And if you are not equal of both wings at the top of the game,

:11:03. > :11:06.the top players are just too good. We saw the amount of times Stan went

:11:07. > :11:09.to the backhand and the one chance he had on the forehand he had to

:11:10. > :11:21.take it. That puts even more pressure on it. You have just got to

:11:22. > :11:27.let it go, start hitting that. You hope and pray that that happens. He

:11:28. > :11:34.will be 28 years of age come the 23rd of September. Arguably four

:11:35. > :11:39.years of his career had been ruined because of this. He deserves to get

:11:40. > :12:17.that second, third chance. But he will have to work for this one.

:12:18. > :12:32.APPLAUSE Guided beautifully down the line.

:12:33. > :12:36.There is that chip return and it was a pretty good approach. He couldn't

:12:37. > :13:06.cover the line. Who is going to take responsibility

:13:07. > :13:11.for that one? Richard or Magnus? As a coach, that is when you say, there

:13:12. > :13:32.is only so much I can do. When they get on the court it is up to them.

:13:33. > :13:38.This court negate the height advantage in some ways for Del

:13:39. > :14:00.Potro, the ball will not kick up as high. It should help Stan.

:14:01. > :14:14.A good start to the second for Del Potro. Just what he needed. Stan's

:14:15. > :14:18.record here at Wimbledon is part of the reason why he had Richard

:14:19. > :14:23.Krajicek involved, he has only actually had a couple of wins

:14:24. > :14:31.against Tom 50 ranked players here over his career. That was Goffin

:14:32. > :14:36.last year and Feliciano Lopez in 2014 -- top 50. He is searching for

:14:37. > :14:45.some answers to unlock the secret of success on the green grass.

:14:46. > :15:02.I saw him play Federer a couple of years ago in the quarters and he was

:15:03. > :15:04.out him, a set and a break up, he was felled by some sort of stomach

:15:05. > :15:46.injury or illness or something. Back in 2009, he played and the

:15:47. > :15:56.under the roof here as well, just his third match, he has had three

:15:57. > :16:04.matches out here on Centre Court, Wawrinka, this is his fourth.

:16:05. > :16:16.There was that tremendous five setter. Yes. This is where it is

:16:17. > :16:23.hard to know what to do when you play Wawrinka, he can hit so big off

:16:24. > :16:25.both wings. And big down the line as well, not too many players can do

:16:26. > :16:50.that. Kept that ball low, it is a lot

:16:51. > :16:54.tougher to pull that shot off. I hope we see Del Potro lean into some

:16:55. > :17:12.two handers. Clearly Wawrinka's camp have advised

:17:13. > :17:16.him to move forward when they see that sliced coming. Don't run

:17:17. > :18:17.through the volley. -- that slice. Del Potro is competing hard here.

:18:18. > :18:27.One might overriding memories of that loss to Murray in 2008, having

:18:28. > :18:30.gone as deep as he did in that tournament, it was seeing him in the

:18:31. > :18:33.press conference breaking down in tears at the disappointment of

:18:34. > :18:41.losing that match. He wasn't happy just to have been there. Even though

:18:42. > :18:46.he seems lackadaisical at times when he walks around the court, you

:18:47. > :18:52.understand that there is a big inferno within the Argentinian. It

:18:53. > :19:00.has been eating away at his soul for years, just to get back on this

:19:01. > :19:06.court. He did not play at the French, he was relatively healthy

:19:07. > :19:11.most of this year, to get ready for this tournament. I have been

:19:12. > :19:16.fortunate enough to accommodate on a couple of the best matches I have

:19:17. > :19:22.seen, that Olympic match against Federer was awesome, 19-17 in the

:19:23. > :19:26.third. Novak, that match in the semis, that memorable almost five

:19:27. > :19:34.hour match. It doesn't get any better than that. It took him three

:19:35. > :19:43.years to get back on this court coming into this tournament.

:19:44. > :19:53.You think about Federer playing 65 straight majors before finally

:19:54. > :19:55.missing the French. How amazing that is. You think of guys like Del

:19:56. > :20:13.Potro, what they have been through. What Novak has been doing... I mean,

:20:14. > :20:54.otherworldly. Quite an easy recipe for Wawrinka,

:20:55. > :21:02.get in the point, work it to the backhand and you get a ball to

:21:03. > :21:03.attack. It seems like Del Potro at times guides that serve a little

:21:04. > :21:36.bit. He has got away with one there, Del

:21:37. > :21:40.Potro. That is an example to me, Wawrinka at 15-30 come short

:21:41. > :21:42.forehand, you have got to make Del Potro hit a two-handed passing shot

:21:43. > :22:03.there, it's a no-brainer. The forehand is usually a lethal

:22:04. > :22:08.weapon but not today so far. Again, I guess the pressure he feels to

:22:09. > :22:12.make a first serve so he doesn't have to make a second and whenever

:22:13. > :22:26.he does get a forehand, he feels he has to make it happen.

:22:27. > :22:32.Credit to him, he is plugging away with his first serves, about 75% in

:22:33. > :23:03.so far. And he lands another one. Followed swiftly by a beautifully

:23:04. > :23:19.angled one out wide. Credit to Del Potro.

:23:20. > :23:27.He has been a little light on wins this year, semifinal in Delray where

:23:28. > :23:32.he lost to Sam Querrey and in Stuttgart he lost to Philipp

:23:33. > :23:37.Kohlschreiber but this is all about Little tentative steps back into the

:23:38. > :23:41.big-time for the Argentinian. Holds serve under pressure like that will

:23:42. > :23:46.encourage him. Wearing that will feel with that mid-court forehand

:23:47. > :23:50.that it was one that got away from him -- Wawrinka will feel. He has

:23:51. > :23:58.got the protected ranking of seven, he gets some intro was -- some

:23:59. > :24:03.entries but those are starting to run out a bit so the stress level

:24:04. > :24:05.goes up. The belief is questionable and you have to deal with the

:24:06. > :24:27.nerves. He is hanging onto his serve

:24:28. > :24:31.effectively here in the second set although he was under pressure in

:24:32. > :24:36.that last game. It gives him a bit of a platform to try to attack the

:24:37. > :24:43.Wawrinka serve. He has had a couple of chances but has been unable to

:24:44. > :24:46.take them so far. But you are never quite sure with Wawrinka. He can at

:24:47. > :25:05.times blow a little hot and cold. SUE BARKER: We are leaving this

:25:06. > :25:13.match on BBC Two and it continues now on BBC One. But we are going to

:25:14. > :25:17.take you over to Court Number One which is the only match outside that

:25:18. > :25:23.is being played, the covers are on all the other outside courts but

:25:24. > :25:26.Venus Williams and Daria Kasatkina are playing. We can join our

:25:27. > :25:34.commentators, Lindsay Davenport and Chris Bradnam.

:25:35. > :25:42.CHRIS BRADNAM: And a very strange circumstance can it rained all

:25:43. > :25:47.through the wallop, drizzled during the first game and it is still

:25:48. > :25:52.drizzling now -- warm up. This LINDSAY DAVENPORT: And Venus is not

:25:53. > :25:56.thrilled to be playing. She does not know that the covers are on all of

:25:57. > :26:01.the other outside courts. It seems strange that Wimbledon would be

:26:02. > :26:12.having these two playing outdoors and nobody else.

:26:13. > :26:23.Superb. She is striking the ball beautifully. She really is. Early on

:26:24. > :26:26.in this match and we had one instance in the first game where

:26:27. > :26:33.Venus came to the net, didn't want to split step and push and that

:26:34. > :26:35.might force her to go bigger earlier which is her most successful play on

:26:36. > :26:49.grass. Early initiative against the only

:26:50. > :26:53.teenager left in the women's draw, Daria Kasatkina, the number three

:26:54. > :26:59.from Russia, first and seeded at a Grand Slam at number 29. Just her

:27:00. > :27:03.fourth Grand Slam main draw. She has not failed yet to reach the third

:27:04. > :27:09.round. This is the third round, she is looking for a first time in the

:27:10. > :27:13.fourth round. Great attitude. She is feisty and she beat Venus the only

:27:14. > :27:19.time they have played in Auckland earlier on this year.

:27:20. > :27:37.The challenge for Kasatkina in this match is to try to handle the pace

:27:38. > :27:41.of Venus Williams's shots, the serve and ground strokes. It is harder to

:27:42. > :27:52.control your ground strokes on grass against venous than on all the other

:27:53. > :28:01.surfaces -- Venus Williams. And also the serve, flat and also with a bit

:28:02. > :28:11.of slice and pace. As you said, she was broken five times yesterday. She

:28:12. > :28:16.had huge problems with her first serve ball toss which we often see.

:28:17. > :28:23.She served eight double faults and was given two time warnings which,

:28:24. > :28:27.to be honest, was wrong. She just ran to the racket bag to get a

:28:28. > :28:33.different racket and got a time violation. I guess she handled it

:28:34. > :28:35.better than Victor Troicki! I think the look said everything that he

:28:36. > :29:00.said! The rain has started to come down

:29:01. > :29:04.again, pretty heavy right now. It is such a challenge for the players

:29:05. > :29:09.when they have it in their mind that the grass could be slick. It is

:29:10. > :29:15.tough to serve when the rain is coming down. These players have my

:29:16. > :29:26.full respect for handling this situation incredibly well so far.

:29:27. > :29:35.Greatly concerned at the start, Venus, she is probably quite happy

:29:36. > :29:39.to continue now at 3-0. And Venus said after the match yesterday, I'm

:29:40. > :29:48.now playing with a sense of infinity. 2020 is the plan! That is

:29:49. > :29:52.amazing. She is the oldest here at 36. When she first started playing

:29:53. > :29:57.at Wimbledon, Kasatkina wasn't even born! It is her 19th Wimbledon, a

:29:58. > :30:03.record. The only time she has missed was three years ago with a back

:30:04. > :30:10.injury. Five times a champion. You faced her twice in the finals. Venus

:30:11. > :30:14.has always been at her best here at Wimbledon, on the grass. There is

:30:15. > :30:20.something about playing here, it takes the guesswork out of her game.

:30:21. > :30:24.She focuses beautifully on the first two or three shots of every rally

:30:25. > :30:29.and that is her strength and there is no hesitation for her to move

:30:30. > :30:32.forward to the net. She puts so much pressure on her opponent, she

:30:33. > :30:34.smothers them with her game, moving forward with short balls. That long

:30:35. > :30:44.wingspan at the net. Again, you have officials caught

:30:45. > :30:47.side, talking on the walkie-talkies. It has been raining since they have

:30:48. > :30:56.walked out, but they are still playing. Let's hope there is no

:30:57. > :31:05.accident. We saw a horrible one yesterday with Radwanska. That was a

:31:06. > :31:07.ball accident. This one is whether. -- this one is the weather.

:31:08. > :31:24.How important is this game for Kasatkina? She has to calm her

:31:25. > :31:28.nerves for her first time on a main court at Wimbledon against one of

:31:29. > :32:02.the best grass court players. She has started off a bit nervy.

:32:03. > :32:07.Kasatkina's... There are a handful of second round matches that have

:32:08. > :32:18.not been played. All of those winners will be playing

:32:19. > :32:23.to make day straight cut at and they have to come back tomorrow. If

:32:24. > :32:25.you're going to be playing in the rain, I am not sure why it is a

:32:26. > :32:42.third-round match. Just 19, but she looks like she

:32:43. > :33:09.belongs. It is pouring now. This is unbelievable. Here comes the

:33:10. > :33:13.grounds crew. It is pouring! Yes, the chair umpire is calling them to

:33:14. > :33:19.the sides. I hope both these players realise that they have been the only

:33:20. > :33:23.players who have been subjected to play in this steady drizzle for the

:33:24. > :33:32.last half-hour. That doesn't seem fair or right. Absolutely. The

:33:33. > :33:38.covers will come back on. Thankfully, neither of them has

:33:39. > :33:50.taken a tumble. They both agreed to play, albeit reluctantly.

:33:51. > :34:01.So, off they go. The frustration continues. Of course, the more the

:34:02. > :34:05.rain comes, there are showers forecast in the next few hours, and

:34:06. > :34:10.maybe tomorrow, there is more of a chance that maybe Sunday comes into

:34:11. > :34:16.play as an extra day. That would be amazing. Was the last time 97? Yes.

:34:17. > :34:20.I remember I played my second round match on the Sunday. But a good

:34:21. > :34:26.start for Venus. As you said, the biggest thing is that there were no

:34:27. > :34:34.injuries out here. Again, a steady mist for those first four games.

:34:35. > :34:38.Venus Williams, 3-1 up after 30 minutes. SUE BARKER: A frustrating

:34:39. > :34:43.day of showers continues here, but as Chris was saying, thankfully, no

:34:44. > :34:46.injuries. A lot of the players have been voicing concerns in press

:34:47. > :34:51.conferences about being asked to play on these wet courts and in the

:34:52. > :34:55.rain. John Isner is amongst them. I think that will be an ongoing theme

:34:56. > :35:01.today. The showers will continue to come through, as Carol said. So, we

:35:02. > :35:04.just have to remain hopeful. I know how she feels most of it is that

:35:05. > :35:14.sort of day when you are just waiting for play to get underway. --

:35:15. > :35:17.I know how she feels. It is that sort of day. Play continues on

:35:18. > :35:25.Centre Court, and you can see this match on BBC One. Juan Martin del

:35:26. > :35:34.Potro has broken Stan Wawrinka in the second set. That matches under

:35:35. > :35:39.the roof on Centre Court. All we can do is just sit and wait and hope

:35:40. > :35:44.that these dark clouds move across and we can get some play very soon

:35:45. > :35:49.indeed. A wonderful schedule on the outside courts as they are still

:35:50. > :35:53.playing catch up. Some second round matches still having to be played.

:35:54. > :35:58.So, we will hope for some live tennis very soon, but let's look

:35:59. > :36:03.back to Marcus Willis. What a story he was, winning seven matches on the

:36:04. > :36:12.way to hear. He was ranked at 772 and faced Roger Federer yesterday

:36:13. > :36:15.got it was an enchanting story that kept us enthralled for the first

:36:16. > :36:25.three days, but it did not have the fairy tale ending as he was beaten

:36:26. > :36:30.by Roger Federer. He spoke a lot about his experience, but first,

:36:31. > :36:35.let's see match point. Yellow might he was a lovable rogue and not as

:36:36. > :36:38.professional as he could have been. I looked in the mirror and thought

:36:39. > :36:46.it doesn't get better than this. Absolute madness.

:36:47. > :37:06.# Shoes off if you love Willis #. . Play the game, Willy. Roger versus

:37:07. > :37:13.Marcus. David versus Goliath. Very good from Federer.

:37:14. > :37:34.Here we go. That's too bad. I hope the best for him, and I hope he can

:37:35. > :37:41.raise his level, jump in the rankings. It was a pleasure to play

:37:42. > :37:45.against them. It sounds funny, but at this point, Toulouse, I can hold

:37:46. > :37:52.my head up and I have had a fantastic few weeks. I want more

:37:53. > :38:01.experiences like this. -- at this point, to lose. How do you feel,

:38:02. > :38:06.looking back on the experience of yesterday? I have seen some clips.

:38:07. > :38:13.Amazing. I am quite proud of myself, actually. It was a wonderful match.

:38:14. > :38:20.What was the best moment for you? At the start, there were lots of 30-30

:38:21. > :38:25.scores. I was quite unlucky to lose 6-0, given the number of games I was

:38:26. > :38:29.in. The whole match was good. I play good tennis. I can play better, but

:38:30. > :38:35.for my first, for that occasion, I am quite happy with the way it went.

:38:36. > :38:39.We will take you through some of the match, but first of all, the walk

:38:40. > :38:48.out. What would you feeling here? I didn't know. I heard the cheering.

:38:49. > :38:53.It was just amazing. I didn't realise I would get a reception like

:38:54. > :39:00.that. Your face after this, when you realised, you can stop laughing. I

:39:01. > :39:08.know, it is so surreal. Everyone has been brilliant. Did Roger offer to

:39:09. > :39:15.let you go first did he hang back? He hung back. I was waiting for him,

:39:16. > :39:18.going, after you. He was just... He made the whole experience amazing.

:39:19. > :39:24.You met him before the match, introduced yourself. Bill my

:39:25. > :39:34.girlfriend wanted to meet him. I was like, go for it. In the restaurant?

:39:35. > :39:41.Yes, upstairs. So you just went up? I introduced myself. He has never

:39:42. > :39:48.met me before. I just went and introduced myself. It was a nice

:39:49. > :39:53.moment. And what about the match? You pulled off some amazing shots,

:39:54. > :39:58.so many dumb and you give your family and fans, you're very loyal

:39:59. > :40:03.fans who queued for two days, so much to cheer about. I tried to play

:40:04. > :40:16.my best tennis. I am not flashy, but I like my drop volleys, my lobs. We

:40:17. > :40:22.picked out a few things for you to enjoy. You love that drop volley. I

:40:23. > :40:29.played badminton and touch tennis before I play tennis, so the hand

:40:30. > :40:34.skills come naturally. Is your mum a badminton coach? She played for the

:40:35. > :40:40.county and gave it up when she was younger. I have never beaten her.

:40:41. > :40:44.You can take her on now! You won seven matches. We were getting

:40:45. > :40:52.concerned in the commentary box after half an hour, and it was 5-0,

:40:53. > :40:59.6-0. And there are easier players to play against. What is he like to

:41:00. > :41:05.play against? He is so, so accurate. It looks like the ball will drop

:41:06. > :41:15.wide and it gets. Some of them were unplayable. And the backhand? He

:41:16. > :41:22.keeps it at a good depth. Even at 6-0, I felt I was in some of the

:41:23. > :41:25.games. You were. We picked out a few things for you to enjoy, because we

:41:26. > :41:28.don't know how much you remember of the match. When you are out there,

:41:29. > :41:44.the ball goes by in a blur. You recovered well here. And then

:41:45. > :41:48.you just owned him on this. Wherewith that rate in terms of the

:41:49. > :41:58.best punch up late? Yellow might yes, that is probably one of my

:41:59. > :42:09.first. The ball wasn't getting high enough up in the air. No, it wasn't.

:42:10. > :42:15.I wanted to get serving. In the warm up, you struggled to serve, didn't

:42:16. > :42:24.you? Yes, I did. My body has been hurting. I am stiff this morning.

:42:25. > :42:27.Adrenaline got me through yesterday. In the previous match, I was

:42:28. > :42:37.hurting. But when you get a crowd like this, you work through it. It

:42:38. > :42:41.didn't affect me. You really got better and better as the match was

:42:42. > :42:47.going. Did you enjoy the Centre Court experience? It was amazing. I

:42:48. > :42:51.was just trying to win points. He made it difficult. After points like

:42:52. > :42:57.this, I was pumped up from playing good tennis. Do you want another go

:42:58. > :43:04.was mac I was getting into the match as the scoreline was getting closer.

:43:05. > :43:09.The rallies were getting longer. He's just better than me, just a

:43:10. > :43:15.very good player. That is why he won. What does he say to you at the

:43:16. > :43:23.end? Keep going, fantastic, stick at it. He said some really nice things.

:43:24. > :43:31.I really appreciated it. You got a bit emotional, it all came out. Yes.

:43:32. > :43:33.The eighth match for you in this tournament and all the headlines.

:43:34. > :43:43.When did the world turned upside down? I qualified, nothing much came

:43:44. > :43:55.out there. In the first round I'd be a really good player. It has been

:43:56. > :44:06.manic since the match the other day. A few more followers on Twitter.

:44:07. > :44:13.Anyone famous? Miranda Hart and Roger Federer. Roger Federer said

:44:14. > :44:25.thanks for the match. Energy on Centre Court was electric. It is all

:44:26. > :44:31.about support as well. We have seen you with your girlfriend. Your

:44:32. > :44:34.friends and family were there, and we just put this together. You will

:44:35. > :44:38.probably get emotional watching this, because they were living every

:44:39. > :44:45.point with you as well. There is your mum. How proud she? They are

:44:46. > :44:49.all buzzing, my family and friends. They have been there the whole time.

:44:50. > :44:52.I am glad I could do this for them. They all seemed to have the same

:44:53. > :45:00.attitude, going out and enjoying the moment. This is such a wonderful

:45:01. > :45:03.story for sport about... After everything you have put them

:45:04. > :45:10.through, Marcus! This was a great moment. To see their son play on

:45:11. > :45:15.Centre Court is great. Your girlfriend is the best thing that

:45:16. > :45:23.has ever happened. Jennifer, you are the best thing that ever happened to

:45:24. > :45:31.me. I am playing it cool. This has whetted the appetite. Andrew has

:45:32. > :45:35.just been feeling your bicep. He is stiff coming in here. I helped him

:45:36. > :45:39.into the seat and I got my hand stuck. It got stuck between the

:45:40. > :45:43.forearm and the bicep. You have been training. You can feel it, it is

:45:44. > :45:50.unbelievable. What do you want to take from this going forward? I will

:45:51. > :45:53.be dropped on planet Earth after this and I will keep training the

:45:54. > :45:57.way I had been training. I have a lot to improve on. I have been

:45:58. > :46:02.playing well but I need to get 10% quicker and stronger. This was

:46:03. > :46:13.really exciting. Do you know where your ranking will be? It is not as

:46:14. > :46:21.high as I would like. It is a great start. I am still 1 million miles

:46:22. > :46:24.away from where I want to be. What has Matt Smith, your coach, done for

:46:25. > :46:28.you that everyone else has not? You have made a pledge to him, an

:46:29. > :46:33.unwritten contract. How has he been able to do what others haven't? You

:46:34. > :46:41.what trouble as a teenager, in our way. I was. I trained for nine years

:46:42. > :46:49.at Bisham Abbey. I didn't work hard enough, and when push came to shove,

:46:50. > :46:53.I didn't want it enough. He is terrifying. I have a lot of respect

:46:54. > :46:58.for him. When he shouts at you, you listen. He was a very good player

:46:59. > :47:04.himself. He had double wrist surgery and quickly young. But he was a

:47:05. > :47:10.fantastic player, trained in Spain. I can't tell you how tough it is on

:47:11. > :47:18.the body, and I have to pretend that I am not tired, plus my opponent. It

:47:19. > :47:22.is brutal. Friday morning, getting up, I couldn't walk. It is worth it

:47:23. > :47:27.now, but I didn't think it would be. It has proved to you that the hard

:47:28. > :47:37.work will pay off. More importantly, have you picked up your prize money?

:47:38. > :47:44.I did. How did that feel? Different to the F1 in Tunisia this year. I

:47:45. > :47:50.can't spend it too quickly. Did you go out with mates last night? Yellow

:47:51. > :47:56.might know. After all the media, I got to bed at 1:30am, up at 8am this

:47:57. > :48:02.morning. I am shattered. I will have a pint or two at some point, but not

:48:03. > :48:08.yet. We wish you well. It has been great going along the journey with

:48:09. > :48:11.you. Thank you very much. He has been the story of certainly the

:48:12. > :48:16.first three days of the championship. That is a nice site to

:48:17. > :48:19.welcome to Wimbledon. As you can see, the covers are still on the

:48:20. > :48:24.courts. If that is heading our way, that is great news that we will

:48:25. > :48:28.finally get some play on the outside courts. It was due to start at 11am

:48:29. > :48:31.and it is now gone quarter past two and we have only had about two

:48:32. > :48:36.minutes of play on the outside courts. A little more play on Court

:48:37. > :48:44.Number One. The story there is, although they are keeping the covers

:48:45. > :48:49.on elsewhere, they are coming off. Coverage of the play under the roof

:48:50. > :48:55.on Centre Court is on BBC One. Juan Martin del Potro is serving to level

:48:56. > :48:58.the match at 1-1. He is serving against two-time Grand Slam winner

:48:59. > :49:04.Stan Wawrinka. You can watch that live over on BBC One. We are getting

:49:05. > :49:08.hopeful here on BBC Two that we will get some live tennis. Although the

:49:09. > :49:12.covers are on outside, they are off on Court Number One, and this is

:49:13. > :49:19.Venus Williams taking on Daria Kasatkina. Venus was leading 3-1

:49:20. > :49:23.when we left off, but hopefully we will have some play for you very

:49:24. > :49:27.soon in the sunshine at Wimbledon. I have been joined in the studio by

:49:28. > :49:34.Tracy Austin. Finally, the sun has come out. Hope is there. We are

:49:35. > :49:39.playing catch up. They have hardly played any doubles. It will be a

:49:40. > :49:44.physical test the players now. Absolutely, and we need a couple of

:49:45. > :49:51.good days of sunshine and long-term play. We're not going to get them.

:49:52. > :49:55.Yes, it is a little worrisome. Listening to Marcus there, we have

:49:56. > :50:01.enjoyed the story. Has he been much of a story back in the US? I had not

:50:02. > :50:05.been there. But you do some American television. Absolutely. This is what

:50:06. > :50:16.sport is about. This is a fairy tale. Given how long it takes to

:50:17. > :50:23.become a good tennis player, he was a top 15 junior. Hopefully he is

:50:24. > :50:28.young enough and has a team around him and can maximise his potential.

:50:29. > :50:32.At the end of the day, he is an athlete and he wants to maximise his

:50:33. > :50:37.potential. I love the story that one day he is playing Roger Federer,

:50:38. > :50:43.which almost seemed like an exhibition, and it seemed like Roger

:50:44. > :50:47.wanted him to win the first game. He was a good foil for Marcus on Centre

:50:48. > :50:52.Court. And then yesterday he played two matches for Coventry. He's

:50:53. > :50:57.actually playing for the Warwick boat club, and he was playing with

:50:58. > :51:02.his partner Gavin Henderson. Here they are arriving at the Warwick

:51:03. > :51:07.boat club. Gavin looks as though he has only one racket. He looks as

:51:08. > :51:14.though he has his Wimbledon accreditation on as well. Jenny is

:51:15. > :51:19.still there. Last night at 930 he was playing a second doubles match

:51:20. > :51:24.using the lighting from a shopping centre. He is a huge star. He had

:51:25. > :51:30.better enjoy it now. That is wonderful. There they are. There are

:51:31. > :51:39.probably about 20 people there. A little different! And the crowd goes

:51:40. > :51:47.wild! That is the story of markers Willis. He could have won those blue

:51:48. > :51:51.shoes the day before. One minute, playing Roger Federer, and then at

:51:52. > :51:58.the Warwick boat club in front of about 30 people. Absolutely

:51:59. > :52:01.wonderful story. Dan Evans takes on Federated day. We are looking

:52:02. > :52:06.forward to that, because Dan has done really well. I want to talk

:52:07. > :52:09.about what has been happening in the women's championship will stop

:52:10. > :52:17.yesterday, Garbine Muguruza, fresh from winning the French Open,

:52:18. > :52:22.outplayed by Jana Cepelova. Of course, Jana Cepelova plagues Halep

:52:23. > :52:26.year and beat her on grass. She has been having up and down results. She

:52:27. > :52:30.beat Serena at Charleston about three years back. We knew she would

:52:31. > :52:34.be a dangerous opponent, but at the same time, Muguruza, the way she

:52:35. > :52:38.played at the French, she was so focused, consistent and powerful,

:52:39. > :52:45.with big weapons, the serve and the ground strokes. She only played one

:52:46. > :52:49.grass court match leading up to Wimbledon, came here and you still

:52:50. > :52:53.expected big things from her because she has had a really phenomenal

:52:54. > :52:58.year, a life changing year, winning the French Open. She has a big

:52:59. > :53:02.serve, and the ground strokes got her to the final last year. This is

:53:03. > :53:06.disturbing, she had 22 unforced errors and did not look like she had

:53:07. > :53:13.a plan B. She was missing by seven or eight feet, often. She did not

:53:14. > :53:17.have a plan to get balls back in play and build the points. WTA this

:53:18. > :53:20.year, there had been so many players in the last few years who have not

:53:21. > :53:24.been able to handle the pressure once they get the recognition and

:53:25. > :53:29.more expectations on them, they haven't been able to deal with them.

:53:30. > :53:33.They keep focusing on the negative. In my opinion, when you win a Grand

:53:34. > :53:37.Slam, you should be focusing on the fact that you are now part of the a

:53:38. > :53:45.meet and can play at the top and focus on the glass being half full.

:53:46. > :53:53.It is interesting to watch the person at number two. Radwanska last

:53:54. > :53:58.year, curb. Kvitova, I thought she would soon be number one in the

:53:59. > :54:03.world. You look at the men's game and you have Andy Cole and Novak,

:54:04. > :54:07.Roger, Rafa when he is fit. They are so consistent and always at the

:54:08. > :54:11.business end of tournaments. That is what is lacking in the women's game

:54:12. > :54:16.now. They need to find superstars who will be competing in major

:54:17. > :54:21.finals, not all this different people coming up and having one good

:54:22. > :54:25.slam. We have taken a couple of hits, with Sharapova, the two-year

:54:26. > :54:32.ban. She is appealing but we will have to see what happens. Azarenka,

:54:33. > :54:36.we are hoping she will come back. That is the last small rivalry

:54:37. > :54:44.Serena had, she beat her about two or three times about three years

:54:45. > :54:48.back. The last real rivalry was just been Henin. Just been would handle

:54:49. > :54:52.the power and believe she could win. If you think of that period, with

:54:53. > :55:04.Serena, Venus, Lindsey and just been and came, they rarely lost in the

:55:05. > :55:09.second round. -- and just been and Kim. The fluctuation is tremendous.

:55:10. > :55:14.The other players that are ranked 50 - 100, when they walk on court, I

:55:15. > :55:21.think they truly think, I have a chance. Sally, three weeks ago. I

:55:22. > :55:26.can't explain why it is a different mentality. When you go back to Chris

:55:27. > :55:32.and Martina, there were no early round losses. And they had an aura,

:55:33. > :55:36.like the top men do. Who will have the chance to get through to the

:55:37. > :55:41.final as far as the bottom half of the draw was concerned? It is

:55:42. > :55:46.depleted. It is. We have had surprises in women's tennis in the

:55:47. > :55:51.last three four years of people coming through. Simona Halep, a

:55:52. > :56:01.semifinalist a couple of years ago, that is a possibility. Madison Keys

:56:02. > :56:04.- Wenbo her chance,? Angelique Kerber, she can play on grass and

:56:05. > :56:09.has won some grass court titles. Venus Williams went three sets with

:56:10. > :56:16.someone you would not expect yesterday. A qualifier. But if Venus

:56:17. > :56:20.starts to get hot, she never plays a warm up tournament. She has played a

:56:21. > :56:25.couple of singles matches and a doubles match, and won that. That is

:56:26. > :56:29.a possibility. Sabine Lisicki, every time she comes to Wimbledon it seems

:56:30. > :56:37.that she has consistently gotten to the quarterfinals. Jaroslav a shred

:56:38. > :56:41.of as well as well. Lucie Safarova was good couple of years ago. There

:56:42. > :56:47.is an opening at the bottom of the draw. The top half, we are not so

:56:48. > :56:52.worried about. Will it finally be the time for Madison Keys? She has

:56:53. > :56:59.broken into the top ten. Just recently. She has a new coach, the

:57:00. > :57:06.long-time coach of Maria Sharapova. He is a taskmaster, and Madison is a

:57:07. > :57:10.free spirit, I always thought she could have worked harder. Thomas

:57:11. > :57:16.isn't going to let her get away with that. She has the weapons she needed

:57:17. > :57:21.to harness that power and play smart with good shot selection. I know he

:57:22. > :57:27.is on her about that. I think his discipline will feed into Madison's

:57:28. > :57:31.lifestyle. I don't mean her lifestyle, but her professionalism,

:57:32. > :57:44.is what I mean. It is a full-time job now. It is. And it is starting

:57:45. > :57:50.to pay off. On this surface? I don't think so against Madison. She's

:57:51. > :57:53.dangerous, she gets download. Again, very consistent. We talk about

:57:54. > :57:57.players who play well on this surface, because it is so

:57:58. > :58:01.specialised. There are so many players who, in their mind, when

:58:02. > :58:04.they get on the court, they are competing against their opponents

:58:05. > :58:08.and their own mind because they do not feel comfortable, and that is

:58:09. > :58:12.the biggest hurdle. It is the moment of realisation for players when they

:58:13. > :58:15.begin to win a few matches. It happened for Muguruza last year, and

:58:16. > :58:20.she all of a sudden felt more comfortable. She did. I think we

:58:21. > :58:25.might have some tennis in a moment. We certainly have tennis on Centre

:58:26. > :58:30.Court, under the roof, no problems with the weather there. Del Potro

:58:31. > :58:40.was serving for the second set when they left it. He tied it at one set

:58:41. > :58:48.all. It has been good to see him back after wrist surgery. One set

:58:49. > :58:53.all. That matches on BBC One. He is already a break up. He broke

:58:54. > :59:00.Wawrinka in the first game. He is down 0-30 on his own serve, so a bit

:59:01. > :59:03.of a roller-coaster on Centre Court. That is on BBC One. Everyone

:59:04. > :59:07.enjoying the tennis on the big screen as well. Henman Hill is

:59:08. > :59:10.always fall and always such a welcome addition at Wimbledon,

:59:11. > :59:19.people making their way year to watch the tennis. I'm afraid the

:59:20. > :59:24.covers are still on, as you can see. With all that blue sky, I am hoping

:59:25. > :59:29.they will take them off very soon indeed. Court Number One is

:59:30. > :59:33.different. They have to make their own decisions. We know that the

:59:34. > :59:37.players weren't that happy about playing on in the rain. It is Venus

:59:38. > :59:43.Williams against Daria Kasatkina. They have only been off 20 - 25

:59:44. > :59:49.minutes. It has been tough but Venus, because she came through a

:59:50. > :59:54.3-set match yesterday, she had to play a doubles match, which she won,

:59:55. > :00:01.and now she is on first day. At 36 years old, it is not ideal. She has

:00:02. > :00:07.had that strap as well for much of the last year. Either one side or

:00:08. > :00:10.the other that has been strapped. Yesterday, in her match, she went

:00:11. > :00:16.three sets, and at the beginning of the third set, she began to look

:00:17. > :00:20.fatigued. As the tennis crowd knows, she has had to deal with a syndrome

:00:21. > :00:23.which saps her energy. She never knows whether she will feel tired

:00:24. > :00:26.from one day to the next. Really proud of the way she dug in and

:00:27. > :00:41.found extra gears. Venus had to find an extra gear to

:00:42. > :00:46.win that third set. She is in a match against the 19-year-old Daria

:00:47. > :00:53.Kasatkina. We are all ready for this to restart so here we go. Let's join

:00:54. > :00:55.Lindsay Davenport and Chris Bradnam once again.

:00:56. > :01:04.CHRIS BRADNAM: They would have been kept in a room just adjacent to the

:01:05. > :01:09.court so not far to come. A three-minute warm up and Williams is

:01:10. > :01:42.ready to go. LINDSAY DAVENPORT: Tracy made a

:01:43. > :01:50.great point about how much harder the stops and starts could be on

:01:51. > :01:56.Venus and her 36-year-old frame. That is one of the things she has

:01:57. > :02:00.got to try to stay loose and keep that energy high like it was in the

:02:01. > :02:05.first four games where she played beautifully under very difficult

:02:06. > :02:10.conditions. Certainly not easy to go and stop for 30 minutes and come

:02:11. > :02:42.back out. Venus will be hoping for no more stoppages today.

:02:43. > :02:56.Was it? UMPIRE: Miss Kasatkina is challenging the call. It did seem

:02:57. > :03:03.like there was a little puff of chalk.

:03:04. > :03:37.It seems like the mist has just started to fall again. Venus, 111

:03:38. > :03:45.mph! It frightened the life out of the linesman!

:03:46. > :03:52.That is big hitting again from Venus. It is right out of the middle

:03:53. > :04:00.of the racket. She is hitting the ball beautifully early. And the fact

:04:01. > :04:04.that Venus still wants to play doubles as well, we know it is

:04:05. > :04:10.Olympic year, qualifying for the Olympics, qualifying for the doubles

:04:11. > :04:18.and they had to come from 5-2 down to win that one. And as the rain

:04:19. > :04:29.start again pretty steadily... And the covers are still on on the other

:04:30. > :04:34.called! This is obviously SW20. Why do they think this court is safer or

:04:35. > :04:40.different? Maybe there is a good reason. I'm sure there is. It was so

:04:41. > :04:45.great, yesterday all the Olympians were named for Rio. Obviously

:04:46. > :04:50.expected but still amazing, Venus Williams will be playing in her

:04:51. > :04:53.fifth Olympic Games at the beginning of August and nominated for both

:04:54. > :05:00.singles and doubles. What an accomplishment that is. Incredible

:05:01. > :05:04.and I'm delighted for Caroline Wozniacki, that her appeal has been

:05:05. > :05:09.upheld and she can compete at the Olympics. She missed the clay-court

:05:10. > :05:14.swing with injury, her ranking has dropped, no Fed Cup. One of the best

:05:15. > :05:16.supporters of the WTA over the years. And that is not just for

:05:17. > :05:41.tennis is a huge plus for Denmark. It is amazing how really neither

:05:42. > :05:43.woman has made a proper complaint about playing in these conditions

:05:44. > :06:06.from the get go. That is quite a look back to camp

:06:07. > :06:11.from Kasatkina. She does not look comfortable on this court but mainly

:06:12. > :06:16.because of Venus and her play early on in this set. It is so much more

:06:17. > :06:23.difficult to handle the of Venus on grass than any other surface. It

:06:24. > :06:25.really slides through the court, she hit it so hard and flat and with

:06:26. > :06:47.great length and depth. And you said it she is hitting the

:06:48. > :06:51.ball much cleaner and better than in yesterday's win. It is the sound,

:06:52. > :06:55.some of that if this stadium which is a great court come a bit more

:06:56. > :07:19.enclosed with great sound. Three more break points.

:07:20. > :07:27.Beautiful strike, breaks the love and extends her lead. Venus is just

:07:28. > :07:32.all over the Kasatkina second serve, doing such a great job with her

:07:33. > :07:51.first few shots of every rally and that puts her head.

:07:52. > :08:11.This is only the fourth second serve that Williams has had to hit.

:08:12. > :08:19.Get that Dean just has not had many opportunities because she has not

:08:20. > :08:22.hit many shots off her front foot. She has been the one scrambling and

:08:23. > :08:27.trying to hang in the rallies and that was one of the first friends of

:08:28. > :08:34.points she has been able to play. It is never a good sign either when you

:08:35. > :08:39.are playing on this court and you can see the ground crew and they are

:08:40. > :08:45.all-star nick Knight buying Venus. It is still drizzling. A lot of

:08:46. > :08:50.times they will be sitting down but they are definitely on call ready to

:08:51. > :08:58.run on again. Here comes the rain even harder. This entire 21 minutes

:08:59. > :09:03.has been under drizzle or pretty steady rain. They had the warm up in

:09:04. > :09:09.sunshine but the rest has been in the rain. The umpire as to stop

:09:10. > :09:16.this, it is pouring down. This is not right. -- has the stop -- has to

:09:17. > :09:22.stop this. That will surely be the last point. They are running on. The

:09:23. > :09:28.players are walking back. It is out of. The umpire has to take a better

:09:29. > :09:38.hand, when it starts to pour down, there is no reason to play one more

:09:39. > :09:47.point. It is almost like a different postcode on this court. It has had

:09:48. > :09:50.unique treatment today. Remember one year when they did it so

:09:51. > :09:56.efficiently, one person got caught behind and got caught under the

:09:57. > :10:00.covers and ended up looking absolutely drowned! That is a stern

:10:01. > :10:08.face and you can understand it from Kasatkina. She is under the cosh on

:10:09. > :10:13.the scoreboard. Williams has been hitting the ball beautifully. In

:10:14. > :10:21.part one and part two of this match so far and you wonder how many parts

:10:22. > :10:28.there will be. Does she shower straightaway, how does she protect

:10:29. > :10:32.her 36-year-old body? It is so tough on a day like today, that last delay

:10:33. > :10:38.they had them out after 19 minutes so unless you get a definitive

:10:39. > :10:43.answer, they wait in the locker room is and have to be on call ready to

:10:44. > :10:53.come back out. Amazing facilities here of course. Everybody taking

:10:54. > :11:05.cover. The staunch fans are not going anywhere, first time on number

:11:06. > :11:10.one court. Such a shame. The second round games still uncompleted

:11:11. > :11:17.including Serena of course, the defending champion. Two part in this

:11:18. > :11:23.match and we are delayed. SUE BARKER: Have a feeling that part

:11:24. > :11:27.three may not be too far away because there is some brighter

:11:28. > :11:31.weather along the way which is what the radar is showing so hopefully we

:11:32. > :11:37.will then have a dry spell and they will be able to complete this. Tracy

:11:38. > :11:45.Austin is with me. When you are 36, this is the last thing you need.

:11:46. > :11:49.Absolutely, off and on, a tendency to get stiff. And you don't know how

:11:50. > :11:55.long the delay will be. Do you go and get a shower? You have to take

:11:56. > :11:59.all that strapping. But if you have been sweating you want to get on

:12:00. > :12:06.fresh clothes. You don't know how much to eat. She is 36, her 19th

:12:07. > :12:10.Wimbledon. Kasatkina is only 19 years old, less than two months old

:12:11. > :12:14.when the Venus played her first Wimbledon! It is extraordinary. I

:12:15. > :12:20.think it will be difficult for her as well, not knowing what to do. It

:12:21. > :12:24.has certainly been a bit tricky for the players and some of them have

:12:25. > :12:28.been very vocal in the press conference so let's hear what one

:12:29. > :12:32.had to say, Gilles Simon, who lost to Grigor Dimitrov. He was not

:12:33. > :12:39.happy. I hate to play when it's raining. I never understood why they

:12:40. > :12:42.are forcing us to go on court when it is slippery. What concerns did

:12:43. > :12:48.you have about getting hurt because of the conditions and what did you

:12:49. > :12:52.say to the umpire? The date I get injured on the slippery grass I am

:12:53. > :12:57.going to sue everybody in the Stadium. We try to understand what

:12:58. > :13:00.is happening, in the tournament and players but at one point yesterday

:13:01. > :13:05.it was ridiculous. I will tell you what the supervisor told me and I

:13:06. > :13:09.let you decide how you feel when somebody is telling you this

:13:10. > :13:14.straight into your face. He told me, it's raining but the water is not

:13:15. > :13:21.going to the ground. It's really like rain and it stayed in the air

:13:22. > :13:26.and its flying away so the grass is not wet. And I have the answer that.

:13:27. > :13:30.I think the tournament got lucky that nothing really serious happened

:13:31. > :13:36.on the court for a player, like somebody breaking his leg on a

:13:37. > :13:40.slippery court. It is a concern. Obviously the players want to manage

:13:41. > :13:43.themselves and the supervisors want to get the tournament finished so

:13:44. > :13:48.there is a conflict. It is very tricky and I go back to Roland

:13:49. > :13:51.Garros where there were so many days when it was raining and they

:13:52. > :13:58.continued to play but on clay, it absorbs the rain, the lines are not

:13:59. > :14:04.slippery so it is not as dangerous. On grass, even a slight mist, the
