:00:11. > :00:19.Sunday, a day of rest and contemplation. But not always,

:00:20. > :00:27.because every now and then something unexpected comes along. Three times

:00:28. > :00:34.in 139 years, these lawns have witnessed something magical. And now

:00:35. > :00:40.it's happening again. This is Wimbledon, but different. Today,

:00:41. > :00:44.Wimbledon opened its gates on the tournament's middle Sunday for the

:00:45. > :00:49.first time in its history. They come from far and wide for a chance, a

:00:50. > :00:58.special chance, to claim a seat at this hallowed ground. Are you mad?

:00:59. > :01:02.Yes. There's something in the air that makes the old feel young and

:01:03. > :01:12.sprinkles stardust on the great and good. It's a day of magic, a time to

:01:13. > :01:49.celebrate. This... Is People's Sunday.

:01:50. > :01:56.Hello and welcome to what promises to be a very special day here at

:01:57. > :01:59.Wimbledon. Everybody here bought their tickets online yesterday.

:02:00. > :02:05.There was queueing today because the show courts are first-come

:02:06. > :02:10.first-served, so 10,000 of the 15,000 seats here on Centre Court

:02:11. > :02:14.have already been taken and they can't wait for play to start at top

:02:15. > :02:19.in fact, the only gaps here, really, around the royal box because on the

:02:20. > :02:23.right, as the members have tickets, and on the left is the players'

:02:24. > :02:27.family and friends so that's the only gap on Centre Court but it runs

:02:28. > :02:31.is to be and blue and someone who knows all about that atmosphere is

:02:32. > :02:37.right here with me now, Tim Henman. I'm going to take you back to 1997.

:02:38. > :02:41.What was that feeling my quest It was amazing and very unexpected. At

:02:42. > :02:46.that stage it had only happened twice in Wimbledon history and I was

:02:47. > :02:53.playing against Paul Harle, and it was a standard match for me tick

:02:54. > :02:56.tock I lost the first set 7-6, won the next two, lost the fourth and

:02:57. > :03:01.eventually was able to come through. And that is a lot of hair! So just

:03:02. > :03:08.the easy match, what was the atmosphere like? It was without

:03:09. > :03:17.question the best atmosphere I ever played in front because in those

:03:18. > :03:21.days... You don't look very happy! It was incredible. I remember when

:03:22. > :03:26.we walked on the court and I didn't really know what to expect. The year

:03:27. > :03:29.before I had made a break, getting through to the quarterfinals, but we

:03:30. > :03:34.have the Mexican wave, there was cheering every Baltic tock Head

:03:35. > :03:37.down, walking off. I want you to look at this camera and apologise to

:03:38. > :03:42.all the people there that you didn't spank them as he walked off. I know.

:03:43. > :03:48.That was appalling. That was pathetic. As you say, it was

:03:49. > :03:54.wonderful and that was a match in some ways that launched you as well.

:03:55. > :03:58.Because of the nature, it was only the second time it has happened, it

:03:59. > :04:01.will work queueing throughout the night to get tickets. This year it

:04:02. > :04:05.was likely different because it was done online, but it was the true

:04:06. > :04:10.tennis fan that was in here and, as I said, the atmosphere was

:04:11. > :04:13.absolutely packed. It was probably the best much I ever played at

:04:14. > :04:19.Wimbledon but in terms of the drama, I remember he had match point on his

:04:20. > :04:24.serve and Paul very kindly served a double faults. I have reminded him

:04:25. > :04:31.too many times that, but to come through 14 Ivan 12 in the fifth, it

:04:32. > :04:37.was the longest set that I played. -- 14-12. The 90 descent of the

:04:38. > :04:40.people, it is their first experience at Wimbledon and they are so so

:04:41. > :04:49.excited. Should we get the wave going? Goal but we could try!

:04:50. > :05:07.It has faded miserably! Try again! I think they're warming up. I don't

:05:08. > :05:10.think it's quite 1997, is a? Not yet. It was an early start for them.

:05:11. > :05:14.I heard there were people queueing from 3am because they got their

:05:15. > :05:20.tickets but they wanted to get in and get their seat. Logistically,

:05:21. > :05:25.because you are on the committee, how difficult was it? It was only

:05:26. > :05:29.made on Friday, this decision to play on Sunday. From a tennis point

:05:30. > :05:31.of view, it's pretty straightforward. We still have

:05:32. > :05:36.second-round matches of the singles that needed to be played and if we

:05:37. > :05:39.don't play on the Sunday, there was going to be a scenario where you are

:05:40. > :05:43.playing third round singles, especially the women, on Monday, you

:05:44. > :05:47.got to play third round on Monday, fourth round on Tuesday,

:05:48. > :05:50.quarterfinal on Wednesday, semifinal on Thursday, and that we had good

:05:51. > :05:53.weather, so for a tennis point of view it was the most difficult

:05:54. > :05:59.decision. Logistically, by the scenes, for all the staff, whether

:06:00. > :06:02.it's the security or the catering of the Stuarts, it's difficult. Nobody

:06:03. > :06:08.was expecting to work but, again, it's just a special occasion and the

:06:09. > :06:11.people who work here are so supportive so hopefully everyone is

:06:12. > :06:17.going to enjoy their dated tock and it gives us a chance to see some new

:06:18. > :06:22.names on the show court, Alexander Zverev, everyone saying he could be

:06:23. > :06:29.new number one. He beat Roger Federer and has got a great game. He

:06:30. > :06:34.is six very aggressive, and is moving quickly. I was talking to his

:06:35. > :06:40.fitness trainer, who used to work with Andy Murray, and he was asking

:06:41. > :06:43.about this schedule and when I asked about the Centre Court match, he

:06:44. > :06:47.looked at me as if to say was I joking and I said absolutely not.

:06:48. > :06:57.The fans that are in here are really going to enjoy that. It is against

:06:58. > :07:00.Tomas Berdych, a former finalist. We have 12 singles matches that need to

:07:01. > :07:02.be completed today to get us back on contract, so let's take a look at

:07:03. > :07:12.where you'll be able to see them. Coco Vandeweghe made a hit last

:07:13. > :07:17.time. She is back again against Roberta Vinci. Her best is round 16

:07:18. > :07:21.but she beat Serena at the US Open and knows all about the big stage.

:07:22. > :07:23.Serena is a second, having come through that very difficult match

:07:24. > :07:29.against the scene Mikail, against Annika Beck, who took out what's on

:07:30. > :07:35.in the opening round. Alexander Zverev takes on Berdych. On Court

:07:36. > :07:42.Number One, Sloane Stephens was a quarterfinalist in 2013 and takes on

:07:43. > :07:50.select Lana Kuznetsova. -- Svetlana Kuznetsova.

:07:51. > :07:58.A fascinating match, Cady is against Lopez, two big servers. And then

:07:59. > :08:02.Jiri Vesely up against Joao Sousa. Another matches on the outside

:08:03. > :08:33.court, available online. So here is Serena Williams. This is

:08:34. > :08:36.earlier today, out on court 14. She thoroughly enjoyed this and good

:08:37. > :08:39.atmosphere and unlike Tim, I think she'll interact with the fans a lot

:08:40. > :08:45.more when she walks onto Centre Court. Nick Kyrgios are arriving

:08:46. > :08:52.here, looking like a busy man, and he will be a busy man on Court One,

:08:53. > :08:56.when he takes on Feliciano Lopez. One Mateen Del Potro, back in the

:08:57. > :09:01.Grand Slams once again, the former US Open champion, that was in 20 09.

:09:02. > :09:06.He is arriving to complete his match today. And Coco Vandeweghe. She will

:09:07. > :09:15.be in the locker room now getting ready to step onto the court, the

:09:16. > :09:19.quarterfinalist from last year. What a different day here. Some blue sky

:09:20. > :09:22.all around but let's hope it's going to stay with us all day and we can

:09:23. > :09:26.catch up with all these matches that are behind. Let's find out the

:09:27. > :09:31.latest from the man who knows, Darren Bett. Is it good news?

:09:32. > :09:36.Well I have much better news. We're not going to see a repeat

:09:37. > :09:39.performance of the weather yesterday. At the moment the

:09:40. > :09:42.temperature is about 18 or so and we are going to see the cloud bubbling

:09:43. > :09:46.up and spreading out some will turn more cloudy and we could just

:09:47. > :09:51.squeeze out an isolated light shower from this cloud. We haven't got the

:09:52. > :09:54.same depth of cloud so we're not going to see the same channel as we

:09:55. > :09:58.had yesterday and there is a good chance it will stay dry all. It is

:09:59. > :10:01.going to feel warmer, it does already, because the winds are

:10:02. > :10:05.lighter and we'll find afternoon temperature is around 21 or so and

:10:06. > :10:09.it should be a fine and mostly sunny evening in store. If you've got

:10:10. > :10:12.tickets for Monday or Tuesday, again, it's probably going to be

:10:13. > :10:17.dry. It looks like the rain should stay away, it will be quite warm and

:10:18. > :10:20.humid, temperatures around 23. So what we saw yesterday was a taste of

:10:21. > :10:25.something more typical of April but what we are going to see today and

:10:26. > :10:30.the next few days is something a bit more like summer, at long last.

:10:31. > :10:36.We have waited a long, long time. Thank you, Darren. That is great

:10:37. > :10:40.news for everyone. Everyone is talking about the massive shock

:10:41. > :10:44.yesterday, Novak Djokovic, who has looked virtually unbeatable on the

:10:45. > :10:46.big stage, was beaten by Sam Querry of the United States. Let's take a

:10:47. > :10:55.look at how that happened. 28-year-old Sam Querry is looking to

:10:56. > :11:01.cause the upset of the tournament, the upset of the year.

:11:02. > :11:11.A real shock brewing here. Djokovic fairly dominant in that

:11:12. > :11:29.set. Someone needs to take this by the

:11:30. > :11:40.scruff of the neck. It is absolutely pouring.

:11:41. > :12:11.This upset is not on the cards yet. It's so close to a famous victory.

:12:12. > :12:16.But here come the court covers once again.

:12:17. > :12:28.He's done it! A massive win for Sam Querry. A massive shock at Wimbledon

:12:29. > :12:32.2016. It's incredible, especially to do it here at Wimbledon, the biggest

:12:33. > :12:39.tournament of the world. And so ecstatic right now. Well done. Were

:12:40. > :12:49.you concerned going into the match? No. No reason that any concern? You

:12:50. > :12:50.didn't seem yourself. As I said, I don't want to talk about it. Please

:12:51. > :13:00.respect that. No reason given by Novak Djokovic,

:13:01. > :13:04.he didn't want to talk about it, but he didn't look himself, did he? At

:13:05. > :13:10.any time in a match he didn't look quite right it up in the first two

:13:11. > :13:12.sets, which was played on the Friday evening, Querry was absolutely

:13:13. > :13:19.amazing. He only dropped four points in the second set and was doing

:13:20. > :13:23.well. At the end of the second set, it was almost as if Djokovic was in

:13:24. > :13:29.shock. He was serving very half-heartedly and hit a couple of

:13:30. > :13:34.really poor volleys, and this was some of the dominant play. When they

:13:35. > :13:43.came out on Saturday, it it was much trickier conditions, it was windy,

:13:44. > :13:50.and I think there's some water falling down from the roof. We'll

:13:51. > :13:55.see that in a minute because we're on this BT but there is a bit of

:13:56. > :13:59.water falling on some spectators on Centre Court. Querrey played well,

:14:00. > :14:07.of course he did, but Djokovic wasn't moving but he wasn't being

:14:08. > :14:10.aggressive, was he? No, and I think mentally he looked very distracted.

:14:11. > :14:14.In the second part of the match yesterday, there was never the same

:14:15. > :14:17.rhythm. It was a bit windy, it was stopped I can start with the weather

:14:18. > :14:25.conditions, but Querrey did very well to keep going. Because Djokovic

:14:26. > :14:29.has set the bar so high in the last three or four years in the biggest

:14:30. > :14:32.events, we always expect him to get away to come through those matches

:14:33. > :14:37.and yesterday he wasn't able to do that. Oh, dear. That's what's

:14:38. > :14:42.happening underneath because the roof is moving to the other side of

:14:43. > :14:47.the court, because they do leave it open, don't they, over on the same

:14:48. > :14:50.side overnight? They put it on the north side so that the sun gets more

:14:51. > :14:56.light into the court but when they've been moving it back to the

:14:57. > :15:00.southern end, there is some water, I think, that is probably in the

:15:01. > :15:03.canopy and some unfortunate spectators - hopefully it wasn't

:15:04. > :15:11.them, not sure my mum would like her hair wet. They're in the front row

:15:12. > :15:14.of the Royal box. Someone must have pulled out! First and second

:15:15. > :15:17.reserve. They will be looking forward to it. I'm sure they'll be a

:15:18. > :15:23.bit more relaxed watching it today than they were in 1997. Sam Querry,

:15:24. > :15:28.a big, big serve but he's improved in other departments as well, hasn't

:15:29. > :15:35.he? He has a lot of good results on grass and he was serving 131, 132

:15:36. > :15:40.mph, but he was serving accurately and for me Djokovic is the best

:15:41. > :15:43.return in the history of the game. You serve 31 aces, that's a great

:15:44. > :15:47.foundation for the rest of your game. It means you can be a bit

:15:48. > :15:53.freer, more aggressive, and that's exactly the way he played and

:15:54. > :15:56.there's no doubt that Djokovic's level dipped and to what was able to

:15:57. > :16:00.take advantage of that. Moving forward we know it's not always easy

:16:01. > :16:07.to back that performance at. It is the first time he has bit able --

:16:08. > :16:14.beaten world number one. He blows a guy in the next round with a proven

:16:15. > :16:16.grass court record. But you can't underestimate, as far as Djokovic is

:16:17. > :16:22.concerned, the pressure he's been under. When Boris came to talk to us

:16:23. > :16:27.at Queen's, he was saying, now he's going to have to draw all four Grand

:16:28. > :16:31.Slams at the same time and now they're talking about the calida

:16:32. > :16:35.Grand Slam. He is human after all. Very much so and I was listening to

:16:36. > :16:38.that interview with you and Boris and he was busy talking about just

:16:39. > :16:41.taking it one match at a time and staying in the present and that's

:16:42. > :16:44.what you've always got to do. It would have been very difficult on

:16:45. > :16:51.Friday night to be down to five and zero and retain that belief but he

:16:52. > :16:56.did so for the fourth set and he wasn't able to do it and as I said,

:16:57. > :17:00.there is that human element. In sport you can't always play your

:17:01. > :17:05.best it keys won four Grand Slams in a row and had an incredible run and

:17:06. > :17:09.that run has come to an end. It was interesting when that result came

:17:10. > :17:17.out it Hole of Centre Court went, wow! It really has opened up the

:17:18. > :17:22.draw because you mentioned he's playing... Roger Federer is in that

:17:23. > :17:27.half so I'm sure Roger will... Definitely. Everyone has been

:17:28. > :17:33.looking at a Djokovic- Murray final. That's not going to happen. I think

:17:34. > :17:37.Raonic is looking like the favourite to get through to the semifinals.

:17:38. > :17:52.Played well at Queen's. Fedor is slowly finding his form.

:17:53. > :17:57.For the Djokovic loss to have any bearing on Andy Murray, he has to

:17:58. > :18:00.get through to the final and he is a long way from that, he's playing

:18:01. > :18:04.great tennis and he'll have an interesting challenge the round,

:18:05. > :18:12.playing the winner of Lopez and Kate Yost. The busy likes this court,

:18:13. > :18:15.Andy Murray, he's on it every day. Away from prying eyes, although

:18:16. > :18:21.we've managed to film him. He is with his team and also Evander

:18:22. > :18:27.Lendl. A day off for Andy but very focused. Very focused and Andy has

:18:28. > :18:31.been really fortunate with the way his schedule has gone. He's

:18:32. > :18:35.benefited from playing on Centre Court, which has the roof, and he's

:18:36. > :18:40.been able to play Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. He hasn't been affected by

:18:41. > :18:44.the weather at all. Not at all and it's important. You saw in Paris

:18:45. > :18:46.when he had a five set matches at the tournament, that can be

:18:47. > :18:51.detrimental but he's absolutely right where he wants to be. He's got

:18:52. > :18:54.the first week out of the way and will be ready to look forward into

:18:55. > :18:59.the second week. They are a good team, Lendl and Murray. They have a

:19:00. > :19:03.good laugh together. I don't know if it is a similar sense of humour. I

:19:04. > :19:07.think as with most people with Lendl, Andy will have to do a lot of

:19:08. > :19:11.listening. Lendl could talk underwater most of the time but he

:19:12. > :19:13.is a good character and I think obviously the benefit of having

:19:14. > :19:17.worked together before, it wasn't like Lendl had to come in and

:19:18. > :19:21.understand how the team worked. He knew the way Andy played and what he

:19:22. > :19:26.likes to do, so that seems like it's going pretty well. What about Roger

:19:27. > :19:30.Federer? You know him well. Have you been to see him? I've seen a little

:19:31. > :19:33.bit of them and he's had such a difficult year, probably the most

:19:34. > :19:37.challenging of his whole career, with having to have a knee operation

:19:38. > :19:39.after the Australian Open it up he had some illness and some back

:19:40. > :19:42.trouble so has never really found the rhythm this year but to play two

:19:43. > :19:47.grass court tournaments prior to this, he played in Stuttgart, and I

:19:48. > :19:49.think he played seven matches in ten days, so he is moving in the right

:19:50. > :19:53.direction. APPLAUSE

:19:54. > :19:58.The applause for the bald person who has walked out on Centre Court but

:19:59. > :20:02.Roger Federer... Steve Johnson has done well on the grass, winning at

:20:03. > :20:08.Nottingham, won a few grounds at Queen's. And had a good win against

:20:09. > :20:15.Grigor Dimitrov. I thought dinner drop was going to come through that.

:20:16. > :20:23.-- Grigor Dimitrov was going to come through that. It's gone very quiet

:20:24. > :20:27.here all of a sudden. Everyone is probably a bit nervous. You said 90%

:20:28. > :20:33.of people had never been before and I'm sure they will warm up. They're

:20:34. > :20:38.rather players that our first match, Coco Vandeweghe leading ahead of

:20:39. > :20:44.Roberta Vinci, who reached the US Open final last year and Coco is a

:20:45. > :20:48.big hitter, a big serve, and she thoroughly enjoyed her Centre Court

:20:49. > :20:52.experience, but look at the difference in height and stature. US

:20:53. > :20:57.Open finalist, beat Serena and she has actually got her highest ranking

:20:58. > :21:01.when 33 years of age, so a big day for both of them. Lets hope they

:21:02. > :21:06.have a special welcome here on Centre Court.

:21:07. > :21:29.It's lovely to see a virtual full house here on Centre Court for this

:21:30. > :21:32.match, which will be very interesting. Sam Smith has joined

:21:33. > :21:39.us. I was talking about the difference in size but Vinci is no

:21:40. > :21:43.pushover. You got each end of the spectrum of modern women's tennis,

:21:44. > :21:47.cocoa with a massive personality, massive game, and the fans are going

:21:48. > :21:50.to see something... The way she cracks that serve, my generation

:21:51. > :21:54.will be happy they are not playing, but someone like Vinci could be from

:21:55. > :21:56.my generation, it is all chips and slices and it still shows that if

:21:57. > :21:59.you have skills and you are talented, you may not have the power

:22:00. > :22:05.but you can still compete. But she needs body armour. I Finco colas

:22:06. > :22:08.this atmosphere. When she was playing out of the second match, she

:22:09. > :22:11.was within the crowd and I think she's going to do a bit of that

:22:12. > :22:20.today because you get the energy. Tim, well done on the scheduling!

:22:21. > :22:23.Coco's grandmother was a Miss American, her grandfather was a New

:22:24. > :22:28.York Mick. In that family you've got to have a big personality or you are

:22:29. > :22:34.completely forgotten. The crowd will be into her and Vinci is pretty fun.

:22:35. > :22:37.She is not one of these automatons. She is going to be gesticulating and

:22:38. > :22:41.saying allsorts of bad words in Italian and when I saw the schedule

:22:42. > :22:46.I thought, well done, because this is perfect for what is very excited

:22:47. > :22:50.crowd out there. She's interesting, Vinci, highest ranking at the age of

:22:51. > :22:55.33. It's never too late but she's got that kind of game. I'm not sure

:22:56. > :23:00.about the grass. She should have done far better and possibly

:23:01. > :23:04.Vandeweghe comes out here the slight favourite if she serves well but

:23:05. > :23:07.Vinci is a player that should have done so much better at Wimbledon

:23:08. > :23:12.over the years but still very suspicious of this service because

:23:13. > :23:16.it is not play. Have you ever known a first week like it, particularly

:23:17. > :23:21.in the women's, losing so many seed? No, I've got my draw here after rain

:23:22. > :23:28.with last me a difficult question. There is still enough in it. You

:23:29. > :23:33.still got Svetlana Kuznetsova. She is one of the older ones, a former

:23:34. > :23:37.two-time Grand Slam champion. You got Serena Williams, who is still

:23:38. > :23:47.the favourite then it starts to thin out. You've got a cracking match

:23:48. > :23:53.between Radwanska and Cibulkova. The bottom half looks stronger. You've

:23:54. > :23:57.got curb, Venus Williams, Simona Halep two I thought was fabulous on

:23:58. > :24:00.Centre Court yesterday, and Lucie Safarova, a former semifinalist who

:24:01. > :24:03.has found some form and is a very good grass court player. The bottom

:24:04. > :24:09.half looks stronger than the top half. No Kvitova on the bottom half

:24:10. > :24:12.of that up you would expect them to go through. I couldn't believe the

:24:13. > :24:18.Muguruza lost on the second round because I watched the match on

:24:19. > :24:22.Centre Court or Court One and I thought she looked fabulous. Isil

:24:23. > :24:24.Kvitova yesterday and not the champion that we noted Hawk-Eye

:24:25. > :24:28.don't know what's happened with her tennis but didn't look on it at all.

:24:29. > :24:33.Not sure what's happening with the roof. They are having a bit of fun

:24:34. > :24:40.playing with the remote control, making sure it is well oiled. I

:24:41. > :24:43.think it is in position now. I think it. British loo because fingers

:24:44. > :24:47.crossed, we are not going to need it. Darren has assured us we are

:24:48. > :24:51.going to have some dry weather. Talked to was a bit about Serena

:24:52. > :24:54.because she came through that amazing match against Christina

:24:55. > :25:00.McHale but only just. Again, it is one of those. I think for Serena, we

:25:01. > :25:04.need to go back to what happened at the US Open last year. I think

:25:05. > :25:09.psychologically it rocked her completely, losing that much, and

:25:10. > :25:14.Mchale is a very fine player. She could match Serena athletically, got

:25:15. > :25:17.a good serve, good forehand and Serena has enormous aura and

:25:18. > :25:22.presence at Wimbledon more than anywhere else but I think it is on

:25:23. > :25:26.the wane. Players think they can win. It is one of those sinless and

:25:27. > :25:28.arias we've talked a lot about with Djokovic and Serena is so good at

:25:29. > :25:33.coming through the difficult matches and time and time again she wins.

:25:34. > :25:36.She has given itself an opportunity in the second week, where is

:25:37. > :25:40.Djokovic have a difficult match and couldn't find a way to get through

:25:41. > :25:44.it so for me, she is deftly the player to be. She is the ultimate

:25:45. > :25:48.champion here at Wimbledon. She just does dig deep, doesn't she, and at

:25:49. > :25:53.the end of it choose almost angry with herself. She wants this record,

:25:54. > :25:59.whether she tries to downplay it or what. Everyone else wants to do it

:26:00. > :26:02.and the great advantage that Serena has is she has the best serve in the

:26:03. > :26:07.women's game so everything else can be going horribly wrong, as long as

:26:08. > :26:11.you commit that serve she's OK, but I still wouldn't trust Serena to not

:26:12. > :26:15.have a few problems against Annika Beck who is a really fine athlete to

:26:16. > :26:19.talk I do think there has been a shift in women's tennis because of

:26:20. > :26:22.that Vinci match last year. A lot of the lower ranked players think now

:26:23. > :26:26.they can beat the big names and I know in my day 20 years ago, did we

:26:27. > :26:31.believe we were going to beat Martina and Monica Seles? Not

:26:32. > :26:34.really. After the knockout week, the first two games, we knew the writing

:26:35. > :26:37.was on the wall. But lower ranked players, I don't know what you think

:26:38. > :26:41.in the men's game, I think they really believe, the women, that they

:26:42. > :26:44.can take them out. Very much so, and you are always trying to paint a

:26:45. > :26:48.picture in your own mind of how the upset is going to be possible and in

:26:49. > :26:51.the men's, the top four have been so dominant and then Murray and

:26:52. > :26:55.Djokovic have separated themselves. Djokovic clearly the number one but

:26:56. > :27:03.an upset like Querrey eating Djokovic is going to be good for

:27:04. > :27:06.everyone. -- beating. We're talking about the calendar Grand Slam. How

:27:07. > :27:10.is she this year compared to last year? She hasn't had as many

:27:11. > :27:15.tournaments or as many wins. She's been good when she's needed to be

:27:16. > :27:18.good. The only real blips have been in the final of the Australian Open

:27:19. > :27:21.and the final of the French Open, when they came up against two

:27:22. > :27:25.players who were on red-hot form, who actually believed they could

:27:26. > :27:30.beat her. I know age shouldn't be a factor that Serena is 35 after the

:27:31. > :27:33.US Open and I think the nerves have become more difficult for her. A lot

:27:34. > :27:38.of the older players have talked about how they get more nervous as

:27:39. > :27:42.they get older. There's more players, starting to push in early

:27:43. > :27:48.rounds. I still think she's the greatest player and I think there's

:27:49. > :27:52.more slams in her but it's not getting any easier. I don't then she

:27:53. > :27:55.is as quick as she used to be. It is interesting how Feder and Serena are

:27:56. > :28:01.both still so hungry for success with all they've achieved. It's not

:28:02. > :28:04.so difficult when you are playing an event like this but to be there

:28:05. > :28:09.travelling the tool 30 weeks of the year playing in all the tournaments,

:28:10. > :28:15.so disciplined, the training and travel... Hold on, Tim, who is this?

:28:16. > :28:21.It's the twins, the little Federer wins. Leo and Lenny. He had the twin

:28:22. > :28:28.girls in the player's box for the first Centre Court matches. When

:28:29. > :28:34.Roger is often playing, the two girls, the twin daughters, are quite

:28:35. > :28:39.often doing their crayon in and cartooning. They are not interested

:28:40. > :28:43.in dad at all! Sam, time has been called so are you going to pick a

:28:44. > :28:48.winner for this one? How do you see the match going? I'm going to go

:28:49. > :28:52.with power, Vandeweghe. Sam, Tim, thank you very much. Time has been

:28:53. > :28:56.called so we'd better move away from Centre Court, so let's join our

:28:57. > :29:01.commentators, Louise Pleming and Barry Davies.

:29:02. > :29:08.COMMENTATOR: We're going to start with power because Coco Vandeweghe

:29:09. > :29:12.won the toss and this is no surprise. This is the last practice

:29:13. > :29:16.of. We have a huge contrast in styles between these two players,

:29:17. > :29:26.one seeded for the first time ever, Vandeweghe, the American, and Vinci,

:29:27. > :29:33.who is now aged 33 and seeded number six. Louise Pleming, this will be in

:29:34. > :29:37.adjusting contest. It certainly will, Barry. It is rather exciting

:29:38. > :29:43.to see when two players coming to a match or an event, both having their

:29:44. > :29:49.career high rankings, both players very confident so far in the

:29:50. > :29:54.tournament. They've had some really good matches, with Coco Vandeweghe,

:29:55. > :30:03.she is on fire. Should cease action today. There was prolonged applause

:30:04. > :30:26.when the ladies came onto court. Now total silence.

:30:27. > :30:28.The crowd will cease real fireworks come from the racket of Coco

:30:29. > :31:11.Vandeweghe today. Both players on the board early,

:31:12. > :31:30.which is nice. The crowd is weak to applaud every thing.

:31:31. > :31:39.One is power, and one is very clever. Vinci is just marked player,

:31:40. > :31:40.uses her variation extremely well. Tends to dismantle her opponents

:31:41. > :32:01.rather than overpower them. The sound of the forehand just

:32:02. > :32:54.resonates through Centre Court. That's very much how it has been

:32:55. > :32:58.going with the serving of Coco Vandeweghe. Just look at the

:32:59. > :33:22.statistics. You would have to say that Vinci has

:33:23. > :33:32.to serve well. She doesn't want to go behind.

:33:33. > :33:38.Kakko this year so far has served 156 aces, and only 103 double

:33:39. > :34:04.faults, which is a terrific conversion.

:34:05. > :34:10.By contrast, Vinci, 59 aces and 55 double faults, not having the same

:34:11. > :34:48.impact. She is a brave woman, Roberta Vinci,

:34:49. > :34:54.serving and volleying into the forehand wing of Vandeweghe.

:34:55. > :34:59.Probably the safest pair of hands, though, Roberta Vinci. Number one in

:35:00. > :35:27.the world in doubles the many years. Difficult part of the match today

:35:28. > :35:31.for Roberta Vinci is to be able to neutralise these big shots from

:35:32. > :35:37.Vandeweghe and to try to get her moving. Expose the movement a little

:35:38. > :35:58.bit of cocoa. It is not her best asset. She is 6'1", Vinci is 5'4".

:35:59. > :37:17.I bet Vinci wishes he was 6'1". That was a big serve. 110 mph.

:37:18. > :37:24.Coco just sensing when Vinci was under a little stress. Slice that

:37:25. > :37:25.back and back, and that is when you can get in and take control of the

:37:26. > :38:02.volley. Good awareness. Starting and finishing with an ace.

:38:03. > :38:11.That is the style we will see, it is quite clear to all. She looks very

:38:12. > :38:19.happy with life. The American. There is a different sort of us in the

:38:20. > :38:24.crowd today. I can't give you exactly the feel of it, but it is

:38:25. > :38:30.just a bit different. It is all a bonus, isn't it? It is. It is a

:38:31. > :38:35.lovely Sunday, and they are getting to watch some to rid the tennis, and

:38:36. > :38:39.it is just so nice to watch a player like Coco Vandeweghe, she is a

:38:40. > :38:45.breath of fresh air, enjoys being on the court. You can see that relaxed

:38:46. > :38:48.smile looking Brad Tagg coach. -- looking over at her coach. We have

:38:49. > :38:55.been working together for just over a year. He has had a remarkable

:38:56. > :38:59.influence on her tennis. He has got her to focus on doubles, and it has

:39:00. > :40:06.will it helped a lot. She has a very high doubles ranking, top 20.

:40:07. > :40:38.That is where it is hard, the change of pace.

:40:39. > :40:53.The crowd loved that! I thought that was almost a perfect point. A

:40:54. > :40:58.terrific backhand from band awake, it looked like there was smoke

:40:59. > :41:02.coming from the racket. -- terrific backhand from Coco Vandeweghe. And

:41:03. > :41:15.the drop shot was to be the placement.

:41:16. > :41:56.She did the right thing, but couldn't find the right volley.

:41:57. > :42:56.That is superb! Not the power, but the length. It is total confidence

:42:57. > :43:00.coming off the racket of Vandeweghe. For me there are two players are

:43:01. > :43:08.turn into different characters when they walk onto grass, and Coco

:43:09. > :43:30.Vandeweghe is one of them. Sabine Lisicki the other.

:43:31. > :43:37.Hardly a breath of wind on the court. That is an advantage to

:43:38. > :43:38.Vandeweghe. Those big swings. She has twice been concerned by the

:43:39. > :44:14.toss. It's just a matter of being in the

:44:15. > :44:17.right place at the right time for Vinci. Read this like a book. Just

:44:18. > :44:34.leans in. Just the right foot. Went from under

:44:35. > :45:02.her. Balance is key for a player like

:45:03. > :45:06.Coco, 6'1". She's a very strong built athlete. Got to get the feet

:45:07. > :45:34.right. Wow! Improvised once again. This is

:45:35. > :45:44.a new one in the book. Very difficult to teach that one, Barry.

:45:45. > :46:11.You might see a few of those shots played on the local park.

:46:12. > :46:23.Still smiling. I must say, that is nice to see. You don't see too many

:46:24. > :46:28.sportspeople smiling when they are actually doing their thing. I think

:46:29. > :46:32.it is such a great asset to have that relaxed feeling about yourself.

:46:33. > :46:35.To be able to come out here and enjoy this moment, the hallowed

:46:36. > :46:41.ground of Centre Court, Wimbledon, the biggest occasion of Coco

:46:42. > :46:45.Vandeweghe's career, and yet she is able to recognise that, be present,

:46:46. > :46:48.and just enjoy this. It is ready great to see. And I think it will

:46:49. > :46:58.help her with longevity in her career. She is made for grass. She

:46:59. > :47:06.shows that in her warm up matches. The semifinal in Birmingham on the

:47:07. > :47:35.way. She has had a horrific run. -- a horrific run. -- a horrific run.

:47:36. > :47:37.Vinci really has to hold here otherwise is opening set will be

:47:38. > :47:50.over too soon. So hard for Vinci to change face and

:47:51. > :48:06.use her slice and variation because she has to control the power.

:48:07. > :48:14.Nothing you can do about that. That is superb hitting. Free swinging

:48:15. > :48:59.from Coco Vandeweghe. 75 mph they serve. Came back at 150!

:49:00. > :49:02.This one just not connecting through the middle of the racket. Landing

:49:03. > :49:30.short. Terrific forehand from Vinci. She's not just the motor car, she is

:49:31. > :49:40.a sports car, and she has to control that power.

:49:41. > :49:51.Oh! That was on course to land just in, turned away the last moment.

:49:52. > :50:06.Roberta Vinci's coach. Terrific placement from Vinci, right

:50:07. > :50:11.into the corner. She has to keep changing her serve, be accurate, not

:50:12. > :50:47.let Coco Vandeweghe yes where she is going to often.

:50:48. > :51:18.That's what the crowd needed on the Italian side.

:51:19. > :51:27.Defending initially, but chose the wrong course. Running off to the

:51:28. > :51:28.other side, I won the ball, but still the ability to put the ball

:51:29. > :51:54.back behind the running player. She's getting so much work of that

:51:55. > :51:56.second serve. She can accelerate the racket head. Spin gives of the

:51:57. > :52:20.control. Full charge ahead on all occasions

:52:21. > :52:23.from Coco. She just has to commit to the power. Good closing on the high

:52:24. > :53:07.backhand. STUDIO: Are going the way of and

:53:08. > :53:13.awake on Centre Court. Let's show you what is happening elsewhere. --

:53:14. > :53:17.going the way of Coco Vandeweghe. Over on Court Number One we have

:53:18. > :53:22.Sloane Stephens against Svetlana Kuznetsova. A three-time

:53:23. > :53:32.quarterfinalist here, and they are on Court at the moment. Svetlana

:53:33. > :53:38.Kuznetsova is leading 4-3 games. Confirmation of the score there.

:53:39. > :53:47.That is on the red button. On Court Number Two, what a story. Timea

:53:48. > :53:52.Bacsinszky had a foot injury and give up tennis and then got an

:53:53. > :53:55.e-mail saying, do you want to come in the French Open qualifier. And so

:53:56. > :53:58.without any practice she went to the French Open, lost the match, but it

:53:59. > :54:04.reignited her love of tennis and here she is as the number 11 seed.

:54:05. > :54:11.3-3 in our game against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Other matches

:54:12. > :54:25.available online. Here we rejoin Centre Court.

:54:26. > :55:05.COMMENTATOR: This band. Not too many players used in these days.

:55:06. > :55:14.We made the point about Vinci giving extra power back to Vandeweghe. You

:55:15. > :55:34.want to try to take the shot away from the Vandeweghe.

:55:35. > :55:39.She wants to try to get that ball away from the hip height contact

:55:40. > :55:44.point that Vandeweghe likes to swing at. Push her back deck. -- push back

:55:45. > :56:13.deep. Oh! Just too wide, otherwise that

:56:14. > :56:25.was a beautiful rally played by the Italian.

:56:26. > :57:06.Goodness me! You would afford her opponent was more likely to be

:57:07. > :57:32.caught for a foot fault. REFEREE: Mrs Vandeweghe challenges

:57:33. > :58:11.the call. A little wry smile from Roberta Vinci. Back in this game.

:58:12. > :58:25.You just don't know when they run errors are coming from Vandeweghe.

:58:26. > :58:51.We saw three pretty easy ones there. Serving for the opening set.

:58:52. > :59:09.Oh! Very brave. And delightful to watch. Just to rethink hands. A

:59:10. > :59:11.great touch from Vinci. She covers the court so well, understands the

:59:12. > :00:04.net. Great variation. The nod of approval

:00:05. > :00:30.from the coach. Slowed the pace up, opened up the court.

:00:31. > :00:41.It's quite remarkable how she can just duplicate the power over and

:00:42. > :00:45.over. Such a strong base with the legs, a powerful unit. Two set

:00:46. > :01:13.points. It's not easy for Vinci. She's

:01:14. > :01:15.having to come up with something very special time and time again to

:01:16. > :02:04.win a point. She deserves the applause from both

:02:05. > :02:19.coach and the crowd. Quite an exhibition of her capabilities here.

:02:20. > :02:22.Strong volleying, excellent serve, and her opponent is making her have

:02:23. > :02:31.to play at best. She must feel very confident that she's going to win

:02:32. > :02:38.this. It's wonderful to see the variation. I really enjoyed watching

:02:39. > :02:44.Vinci as well. The contrast is just so interesting to watch. This was a

:02:45. > :02:51.great shot. She had to improvise time and time again. The smiles from

:02:52. > :02:57.Coco Vandeweghe has just been interesting to see and that is going

:02:58. > :03:01.to help her a lot. First serve percentage is good for Vinci but

:03:02. > :03:14.that's hard to keep holding from the big power from Vandeweghe.

:03:15. > :03:19.Very good stats. She's able to penetrate through the court and

:03:20. > :03:27.really blow her opponent away from the baseline, from the serve. Big

:03:28. > :03:49.all-round. She's in the top half of the draw.

:03:50. > :03:53.It would be interesting to see how she would play against somebody who

:03:54. > :04:40.could also bombed the ball at her. That reaction understandable. She

:04:41. > :04:47.really can't afford to make errors like that. Doesn't matter the

:04:48. > :05:05.language, everybody knows how she feels.

:05:06. > :05:24.Slice, slice, slice and then He must be so happy with the way she's come

:05:25. > :05:31.out here today. The play just looks so solid. Everything she's done, she

:05:32. > :05:35.looks very clean, strong. The legs, the fist pump, her attitude. It's

:05:36. > :07:39.just so high and it's frustrating for Vinci.

:07:40. > :07:45.That's a good serve from Vandeweghe but Vinci is just having to work so

:07:46. > :07:48.hard and hoping that Coco might just lose a little focus, give her a

:07:49. > :08:21.little opening somewhere in this match.

:08:22. > :08:29.Just a couple of errors coming from the backhand side of Vandeweghe. And

:08:30. > :08:35.for only the second time in this championship, Vandeweghe on break

:08:36. > :09:02.point. Wow! All things are possible in the

:09:03. > :09:20.sporting arena. That's just given a real list to

:09:21. > :09:21.Vinci. And the crowd. And let's see how Coco Vandeweghe response to

:09:22. > :09:36.that. -- responds. A pretty high take back on that

:09:37. > :09:41.backhand side from Coco. On grass, you really want to keep your hands

:09:42. > :09:44.behind the ball and track with a height of the ball. Sometimes she

:09:45. > :10:15.can just lose her timing a little. So intelligent here for the Italian.

:10:16. > :10:21.Vinci really just asking the questions of Vandeweghe, trying to

:10:22. > :10:51.get inside her head a little bit here.

:10:52. > :11:06.Been together for a lot of years, Roberto and her coach. That's great

:11:07. > :11:12.hitting from Roberta Vinci, just using the pace of Vandeweghe's

:11:13. > :11:14.return. You play fast, you have to move fast and that's where Coco

:11:15. > :11:46.sometimes gets out of position. In danger of unravelling all she's

:11:47. > :12:24.achieved. Another piece of improvisation but

:12:25. > :12:40.it couldn't quite come off. I think that's the word for this

:12:41. > :12:43.match, improvising, because you have to think fast on your feet when

:12:44. > :12:51.you're playing somebody that hits the ball this big. Just has

:12:52. > :12:54.incredible power, Vandeweghe. It is the split step, strong moving to the

:12:55. > :13:00.ball. There's the hands, getting back behind, early take back, with

:13:01. > :13:03.that big wind-up, and then leans in. There's the line she likes to hit up

:13:04. > :13:11.but that ball really penetrating through. Hits from quite a high part

:13:12. > :13:18.of the court, so she's got plenty of room to go in. That's 89 mph, where

:13:19. > :13:22.it's coming through very fast, and that doesn't give Vinci a lot of

:13:23. > :13:27.time for her preparation. She needs to be really moving very fast so she

:13:28. > :13:32.can somehow defuse these big powerful shots and try to get

:13:33. > :13:37.Vandeweghe moving either forwards through the corners of the court,

:13:38. > :13:39.and take a little bit of time away. It's just not hard to do off that

:13:40. > :15:05.heavy hitting. That's what the coaches tell you. If

:15:06. > :15:49.you're not happy with the toss, don't hit the ball to.

:15:50. > :16:09.Really quite a warm day after you see the sunshine.

:16:10. > :16:17.Slowing that one down a little. She knew from the moment she contacted

:16:18. > :16:34.that that it was just going to fly. Just got little in front of her.

:16:35. > :16:44.Just struggling with that placement on the toss.

:16:45. > :16:52.Good job she wasn't playing on Centre Court yesterday or any of the

:16:53. > :16:57.other outside courts. Oh, that's a very good response to what was a

:16:58. > :17:06.testing shop from her opponent. UMPIRE: Miss Vandeweghe challenged

:17:07. > :17:59.the ball. UMPIRE: Game, Miss Vandeweghe. I

:18:00. > :18:03.would like to see a little bit more feistiness every once in awhile from

:18:04. > :18:09.Coco Vandeweghe. I think if she's to go to the next level really push

:18:10. > :18:13.Serena Williams, I'd just like to see her use her physically imposing

:18:14. > :18:22.stature a little bit more, show a bit more aggression.

:18:23. > :18:32.That's great play from Vinci. Do you agree a little bit there, just to

:18:33. > :18:39.see a little bit more feistiness? She's a bit too much of a gentle

:18:40. > :18:55.giant out there. Use some of that body language.

:18:56. > :18:58.Got the short reply. Roberta getting out nice and quick, getting that

:18:59. > :19:54.ball out through the court. It's just hard for Roberta Vinci not

:19:55. > :20:00.to feel like she's just a passenger in this match. It is all being

:20:01. > :20:03.controlled by Vandeweghe. That was an astonishing pick-up which she

:20:04. > :20:19.couldn't then carry on. Her first ace. Such a contrast of

:20:20. > :21:07.styles. Good positivity coming from the

:21:08. > :21:13.Italian and she needs every bit of that. She has to do is hang in, in

:21:14. > :21:17.hope that Coco Vandeweghe will go off boil a little bit. How is your

:21:18. > :21:27.Italian? There is something written on that left arm.

:21:28. > :21:35.Just has to bring everything she can to try to somehow dismantle Coco

:21:36. > :21:44.Vandeweghe and make her feel a little uncomfortable and try to get

:21:45. > :21:51.her movement exposed. And somehow get some momentum in this match.

:21:52. > :22:03.People watching will be a bit surprised to find that she is up

:22:04. > :22:04.six. Just came into the court. She's on the rise, Vandeweghe, there is

:22:05. > :23:08.question about that. Quicker with their applause this

:23:09. > :23:41.time. Last time they were a bit slow coming in with Hawk-Eye.

:23:42. > :23:57.Oh, yes. Beautiful placement. Yeah, absolutely. Just able to control

:23:58. > :24:12.this depth, just using the pace of her opponent again.

:24:13. > :24:27.You drop a point, the next point you make it just disappeared.

:24:28. > :24:38.Just allows her to relax, returning games when they can keep holding

:24:39. > :24:46.like this. When you are winning 95% of your own service games. A double

:24:47. > :24:51.fault in the last service game but when you are serving 12 of 15 aces,

:24:52. > :24:53.I should say in the tournament, it's OK to do through three double faults

:24:54. > :25:20.in. Who cares? Couldn't have been closer. She plays

:25:21. > :25:25.much more like a male player, always looking to come forward. Such a

:25:26. > :25:30.great smash. Such a weapon to have. She can control all Di mentions of

:25:31. > :25:44.the court. Six is, she really can get up. -- 6'1". She has the

:25:45. > :25:46.advantage of being tall but she does get up to a natural leap, for want

:25:47. > :26:09.of a better word. Not sure, but decides not to employ

:26:10. > :26:58.Hawk-Eye. Staying in the contest.

:26:59. > :27:01.SUE BARKER: Still a break of serve for Coco Vandeweghe on Centre Court,

:27:02. > :27:06.and we'll be back there in a moment, but over on Court Number One it is

:27:07. > :27:10.Sloane Stephens who has come through that first set tie-breaker event

:27:11. > :27:15.against Kuznetsova. That match is on Court One and you can watch it live

:27:16. > :27:21.on the red button if you want to. And over on Court Number Two...

:27:22. > :27:26.Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia has taken the first set over the

:27:27. > :27:31.higher ranked to me a pitch in ski but she's taken that six Ivan 3-iron

:27:32. > :27:35.is already a break of serve up in the second. You can watch that

:27:36. > :27:41.online on the BBC Sport app or connected TV. That is the match is

:27:42. > :27:51.happening elsewhere earlier today. Plenty more to come in this lovely

:27:52. > :27:58.weather but now let's rejoin centre. COMMENTATOR: Looking at a very

:27:59. > :28:03.thoughtful Roberta Vinci. Championship behind the Williams

:28:04. > :28:22.sisters. She's really got a job on here.

:28:23. > :28:46.Blue sky but the clouds today are fluffy and white.

:28:47. > :28:54.Barry, you talked about perhaps next year the seedings could swap or be

:28:55. > :28:57.different for Coco Vandeweghe. There is no question about that. She's had

:28:58. > :28:59.three top ten wins this year and things are on the move for this

:29:00. > :29:22.young lady. The confidence that she gets from

:29:23. > :29:25.playing on grass, cocoa, is just going to translate on the other

:29:26. > :29:33.services. She had two great wins on the hard court. That play will

:29:34. > :29:50.continue, I think. A couple of points that she might

:29:51. > :30:12.have made more of. She has to take what chances she is being offered.

:30:13. > :30:21.Again just shooting up, the spin for Vinci to slice under that and

:30:22. > :30:53.control the ball. Energy moving off the court.

:30:54. > :31:19.That was beautifully done. Yes. She is looking cool, calm and collected,

:31:20. > :31:23.Coco Vandeweghe. It is remarkable to watch the hole-mac unfold. She has

:31:24. > :31:59.really been outstanding. This does not put much pressure on

:32:00. > :32:02.Roberta Vinci. You have to come up with something like this over and

:32:03. > :32:11.over. Perfect placement, a little bit of luck.

:32:12. > :32:20.I love it. Fortune favours the brave, and she has to pull out

:32:21. > :33:11.everything here. It is a do or die game.

:33:12. > :33:18.Good play. If you can get Coco moving into the back-end, hope to

:33:19. > :34:14.get something shorter and then penetrate fast on the forehand.

:34:15. > :34:21.A little extra volume to that applause. They want to see some

:34:22. > :34:27.excitement here, and this is where Roberta Vinci has to bring every bit

:34:28. > :34:32.of her experience. 33 years on the tour. Has won some really big

:34:33. > :34:37.matches. And she wants to push Coco Vandeweghe to the edge here. She

:34:38. > :34:41.wants to see if she can tighten up the American on her serve, make

:34:42. > :34:52.every return. She has to bring what she can. And just hope that Coco

:34:53. > :35:03.will tense up a fraction. She has been broken once. Vinci has to do it

:35:04. > :35:08.again here. She has looked pretty smooth throughout this match, hasn't

:35:09. > :35:14.she? I do like her attitude, and I would like to see the variation with

:35:15. > :35:15.intensity and body language once in awhile when does something really

:35:16. > :35:49.positive. That is smart play from Vinci,

:35:50. > :36:20.coming back into that side with the errors have been coming from.

:36:21. > :36:28.The footwork, that ball had the pace taken off and Vandeweghe. Didn't

:36:29. > :36:55.recognise it. Vinci thought that was going to the

:36:56. > :37:54.forehand. Coco changed up. That is long. REFEREE: Game, set,

:37:55. > :38:21.match Vandeweghe. I don't know how many as crowd have

:38:22. > :38:34.here before. Tickets went so quickly. And they have been well and

:38:35. > :38:41.detained. They have seen a player with a little style of other days.

:38:42. > :38:48.And who might in the future have many more days. A good victory.

:38:49. > :38:52.Absolutely. I am very impressed with Coco Vandeweghe and the way she

:38:53. > :38:57.carried herself today. She knew what she needed to do and she executed

:38:58. > :39:02.extremely well. The server was on a high percentage of service. She

:39:03. > :39:05.looks so confident out there, unsurprisingly, so comfortable to be

:39:06. > :39:13.on Centre Court. She enjoyed every moment of that. And Roberta, she did

:39:14. > :39:27.whatever she could, but today she was the back-seat passenger. It was

:39:28. > :39:33.Coco certainly driving that match. Just an easy-going, lovely girl,

:39:34. > :39:46.Coco. So charming. She will be a real asset to the tour. She is

:39:47. > :39:53.really headed for the top ten. I think anybody watching would agree

:39:54. > :40:07.with you. Not really her surface, grass. Fine at the US Open. How far

:40:08. > :40:17.will this lady progress? A lovely smile. A lovely game. Serena

:40:18. > :40:32.Williams awaits her, perhaps in the quarterfinals. Settling down having

:40:33. > :40:45.enjoyed a fine taster before lunch. It took one hour and eight minutes.

:40:46. > :40:52.Many congratulations, that was a great win. It was. Roberta is a

:40:53. > :40:55.really tough opponent. She has a lot of craftiness to her game that you

:40:56. > :41:01.don't see too much. And she makes you eat her. That is what I tried to

:41:02. > :41:05.do to stay focused, and keep pressing. You stayed focused and

:41:06. > :41:10.completely controlled the match, didn't you? Sometimes it felt like

:41:11. > :41:14.that, and sometimes I felt like I was in the clouds a little bit. A

:41:15. > :41:18.couple of times where I had a lead in her service games and made a

:41:19. > :41:24.couple of loose errors, but overall I am happy with my match. Playing on

:41:25. > :41:28.Sunday in Centre Court, what was the atmosphere like? It was amazing. It

:41:29. > :41:34.was quite cool. It was similar to when I played on quarterfinal day. I

:41:35. > :41:38.think the crowd was really into it. And it is really special that I was

:41:39. > :41:43.able to play on the rest Sunday. Having played so well, you now have

:41:44. > :41:49.time for Sunday lunch will stop I have Mixed Doubles! Sorry. I will

:41:50. > :41:53.definitely have some lunch. But I have Mixed Doubles and I have to be

:41:54. > :42:01.ready for my partner. Well done. Thank you. SUE BARKER: anybody

:42:02. > :42:05.playing in the doubles is playing catch up here. What a win for a Coco

:42:06. > :42:09.Vandeweghe full stop she loves playing on grass and how game is

:42:10. > :42:12.suited for it. She is the root of the fourth round yet again. And we

:42:13. > :42:17.will enjoy her big hitting style in the last 16. She will be back on

:42:18. > :42:24.court tomorrow. Her coach absolutely delighted. He is very much aware of

:42:25. > :42:27.what this young lady can achieve and what you can achieve on this

:42:28. > :42:33.surface. Coco Vandeweghe is safely through. There is a real battle

:42:34. > :42:37.going on on Court Number One. Svetlana Kuznetsova has a break of

:42:38. > :42:42.serve in the second set but is facing two break points against

:42:43. > :42:46.Sloane Stephens. You can follow that match on the red button. It looks

:42:47. > :42:52.like it has some way to go. Coco Vandeweghe will be looking at this

:42:53. > :42:54.match, because she plays the winner. And it certainly looks like it will

:42:55. > :43:00.be Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the number 21 seed. She is now serving

:43:01. > :43:08.for the match. That could be the fourth round match we will see on

:43:09. > :43:12.court tomorrow. We're here on this People's Sunday because we have 12

:43:13. > :43:16.matches to be completed. One has already been done in the main draw.

:43:17. > :43:19.Some players are fortunate to have come through the first week without

:43:20. > :43:25.interruptions, and Andy Murray is one of those. Roger Federer is

:43:26. > :43:27.another. Now we can hear from the seven time champion because I spoke

:43:28. > :43:33.to him after he finished his practice today. Done for the day,

:43:34. > :43:37.did my practice. Now it is all about relaxing again for the second day.

:43:38. > :43:41.One of those lucky guys that finished already on Friday where

:43:42. > :43:46.others have to battle it out today and yesterday. I have to make the

:43:47. > :43:52.most of it and come into the second week very refreshed. It is bring on

:43:53. > :43:57.the Brits. That is why you are scheduled on Centre Court. Yes, I

:43:58. > :44:00.got lucky with the draw, and getting scheduled on Centre Court on those

:44:01. > :44:04.rainy days, because I was scheduled on the third match. If I had played

:44:05. > :44:09.on Court One I would not have been able to finish. So I got lucky, but

:44:10. > :44:17.it was a good fun first week, the match especially against Dan

:44:18. > :44:21.Williams who I have never played. Nine sets, nine wins, that is great.

:44:22. > :44:27.I surprise myself a little bit because I did not quite know where I

:44:28. > :44:33.was coming into the two women. You'd quit Marcus Willis. We love that

:44:34. > :44:36.story. It was incredible, 772, coming through rounds of qualifying,

:44:37. > :44:41.beating the world number 54, and then Centre Court to play you. It

:44:42. > :44:44.was a fairy tale. It was very cool. I love the story, I loved his

:44:45. > :44:50.reactions, and how the match went. As he had a lot of pressure. I

:44:51. > :44:55.always knew he was going to win games, even asset, even more. I had

:44:56. > :44:59.to prepare myself in a way that he would be a top 50 player now because

:45:00. > :45:05.he has won seven matches straight here at Wimbledon. And here we are

:45:06. > :45:10.walking out. He couldn't stop laughing! What I love was he silted

:45:11. > :45:18.up and enjoyed it and played tennis. He toyed with me, he lobbed me. I

:45:19. > :45:23.dearly! This is the point of the match, and he got it. It was great

:45:24. > :45:28.fun, and a great atmosphere that he was able to bring to the Centre

:45:29. > :45:34.Court. And a big serve. A big serve that I could not read. He aced me

:45:35. > :45:38.about nine times. He has a good slice, and it is hard to attack him

:45:39. > :45:42.off that. The important thing for me was to stay aggressive. But credit

:45:43. > :45:48.to him for playing a good match. And as the match went on, you got

:45:49. > :45:53.better. And having are just over ?200 this year, he walks away with a

:45:54. > :45:56.cheque for over 50,000. He says it has reignited his passion for tennis

:45:57. > :46:01.because he had lost his way before. You would hope so. If this does not

:46:02. > :46:05.fire him up, what will? For any player just to see that this is

:46:06. > :46:08.possible, you can make it to Centre Court at Wimbledon, you can play

:46:09. > :46:12.against some of the best players in the world, and you can play with

:46:13. > :46:15.them, hang with them, beat them at times, games or sets or matches

:46:16. > :46:20.even, that will give you the motivation to push harder and

:46:21. > :46:25.practice, and in life just to keep working hard at it. His world has

:46:26. > :46:28.been turned upside down. One day he is playing you on Centre Court, do

:46:29. > :46:34.you know when he was the next day? I don't go where he was. He was

:46:35. > :46:43.playing a lead. This is in with his partner. Look getting, showboating.

:46:44. > :46:47.And the crowd goes wild. But he won in straight sets, so he is

:46:48. > :46:52.absolutely thrilled. But he feels this will move him up the rankings.

:46:53. > :46:58.He will move up to around 400, still a long way to go. It is a tough

:46:59. > :47:02.journey. It is tough, 400, 300, 200, they play about the same. It is a

:47:03. > :47:08.matter of passion and hope professional you are. How you are

:47:09. > :47:11.working physically, what is your approach day-to-day. All of these

:47:12. > :47:17.things make a difference when you want to jump from 400 to top 100.

:47:18. > :47:22.What did you make of Novak Djokovic yesterday? Did you see much of the

:47:23. > :47:26.match? With all the interruptions, I didn't. I went out for a walk with

:47:27. > :47:31.the boys. I saw some of it. Clearly a huge surprise. I played Sam here

:47:32. > :47:35.last year and I thought he was very dangerous, very good as well. You

:47:36. > :47:40.could always maybe think that Sam was going to have a chance, maybe a

:47:41. > :47:50.setter to, but I did not pick Sam to win. Especially with Novak's record.

:47:51. > :47:53.Time to dig step back and think was an unbelievable performance he has

:47:54. > :47:56.had this year. All his Grand Slam matches up to this point yesterday,

:47:57. > :48:00.and then of course you have to give Sam the credit for closing it out.

:48:01. > :48:04.Because Novak sometimes gives you chances to close him out, but not

:48:05. > :48:10.many guys can do it because he is still so good even when he is not so

:48:11. > :48:12.good. And Sam was able to do it. And you know more than anyone the

:48:13. > :48:16.pressure that is built on you when you're chasing records and remaining

:48:17. > :48:21.unbeaten. There is a lot that goes on offer court as well as on the

:48:22. > :48:25.court. It is good and bad. You're chasing something unbelievably cool,

:48:26. > :48:30.so you are clearly very motivated and very intrigued and interested in

:48:31. > :48:34.trying to achieve that. So it might take some energy out of you, but

:48:35. > :48:39.you're so confident when you walk into the match but he will win a lot

:48:40. > :48:43.of matches just by feeling great. So now he has to rebuild that to some

:48:44. > :48:47.extent. I'm sure that this is just a haircut. He will be fine again for

:48:48. > :48:52.the American summer and as long as he is healthy he will be super tough

:48:53. > :48:55.to beat. He is clearly an unbelievable player and will go down

:48:56. > :49:02.as one of the greatest players in history. It just shows he is human,

:49:03. > :49:05.finally. We notice your family is here, and your girls came to see

:49:06. > :49:15.your first match on Centre Court. We have some pictures of them. Where

:49:16. > :49:20.the behaving? Arm wrestling! They were having a good time. I like that

:49:21. > :49:26.they enjoy the travelling life that we have. And they like tennis to

:49:27. > :49:31.some extent or enough that they come to watch my matches from time to

:49:32. > :49:38.time. They always ask me if they can bring some books out in case they

:49:39. > :49:44.get bored. Surely not! This was the first time I didn't allow any books.

:49:45. > :49:47.So they did arm wrestling instead. And your boys ride with you on the

:49:48. > :49:50.practice court. And you are bidding tennis balls in their hands. Are you

:49:51. > :49:56.trying to get them interested in tennis, are just trying to get them

:49:57. > :50:00.busy? They are much more interested in tennis, which is great to see. I

:50:01. > :50:05.did not know they would come to practice today. My mum brought them

:50:06. > :50:09.out. I'm happy they can experience this with me. They won't remember

:50:10. > :50:14.this part because they are still too young, but the girls will remember.

:50:15. > :50:20.It is fun times right now, and they are so cute. I cannot cuddle them

:50:21. > :50:23.enough. It is good times. When the girls were born you said you wanted

:50:24. > :50:29.them to be old enough to see you play. For me it is very cool when I

:50:30. > :50:33.step onto court and look up to the players box in the first round match

:50:34. > :50:37.and I see the girls. It fills me with a lot of happiness, and I

:50:38. > :50:40.believe it makes you play better. I don't bring them out for me, but

:50:41. > :50:47.also for them and their pleasure because they are spending times

:50:48. > :50:50.their friends as well. Life is good. Looking back over your career is one

:50:51. > :50:55.person you would pick who has been the most influential in career? You

:50:56. > :50:59.would start always with my parents because they brought me to the game.

:51:00. > :51:03.Without them I would not have started playing tennis. They have

:51:04. > :51:12.been unbelievably supportive. And then I look back at Peter Carter,

:51:13. > :51:17.Tony Roach, and Severin has been with me for the last eight years. I

:51:18. > :51:23.have a lot of important people who have helped me. People like Stefan

:51:24. > :51:30.Edberg have given me a lot of great direction. I was very lucky to have

:51:31. > :51:33.the right coaches on the right people at the right times in my

:51:34. > :51:37.life. An understanding what they were tried to teach me at the time.

:51:38. > :51:44.Because you take things very differently when you are 14 or 18 or

:51:45. > :51:49.25 or 34. So I'm happy I had all these great people around me. A lot

:51:50. > :51:52.of great people inspired me. Your first Wimbledon, your first Grand

:51:53. > :51:59.Slam, is that still the one title your most proud of? Yes, probably.

:52:00. > :52:02.Because without that one, who knows where my career was going to go. I

:52:03. > :52:07.was under pressure because I had lost in the first round. A month

:52:08. > :52:12.earlier I had lost in the first round here. The year before I made a

:52:13. > :52:15.great run here in 2003. So if I don't win that Wimbledon I'm not

:52:16. > :52:18.sure I would have had the career because suddenly it all picked up,

:52:19. > :52:25.it all made sense to me, but I was trying to achieve. And the moment

:52:26. > :52:28.when I won that match, that final point, it was the most readable

:52:29. > :52:36.moment in my life as a tennis player. All my dreams came true.

:52:37. > :52:39.Yesterday, I think 15 years ago was my win over Pete Sampras, which to

:52:40. > :52:43.me is still the most important and most beautiful match that I ever

:52:44. > :52:49.played. But it did not have a golden trophy at the end. And then

:52:50. > :52:53.abilities version three final here. I won't ask you whether you think

:52:54. > :52:57.you will win it because I know you won't answer it, but how do you feel

:52:58. > :53:03.you are physically and mentally prepared for this? Mentally I'm much

:53:04. > :53:08.better. I am more confident with where my game is at, coming in one

:53:09. > :53:14.week ago when I was doing the press, I thought, I just know, I wish I

:53:15. > :53:17.could tell you. But now, three matches in, you know where you are,

:53:18. > :53:25.you know where your body and your mind is and where your game is. So

:53:26. > :53:28.now I fancy my chances more. Yes, it has an impact on every player right

:53:29. > :53:33.now moving forward that Novak is out, because he was the double

:53:34. > :53:39.defending champion here at Wimbledon, he won the last four

:53:40. > :53:41.slams. And now all that pressure shifts to a lot of other guys,

:53:42. > :53:47.particularly Murray, maybe myself and others. But it is an

:53:48. > :53:52.opportunity, and I can also play tricks on players' minds. So you

:53:53. > :53:58.just need to focus on UNIX match which is Steve Johnson on Monday.

:53:59. > :54:05.That is my next focus. We wish you well, great to see you again.

:54:06. > :54:09.Appreciated. It is always a delight to hear from Roger Federer and he

:54:10. > :54:12.will be up against the big serving American, Steve Johnson, who has

:54:13. > :54:16.been on form on the grass courts. Roger could have an afternoon off

:54:17. > :54:20.and head back to his home. Still have plenty of tennis to come. We

:54:21. > :54:27.will head back to Centre Court in a moment. But first we have a results

:54:28. > :54:32.to bring you. And indeed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova did serve out how

:54:33. > :54:35.match, she is through 6-3, 6-2. Delighted with her when, and a very

:54:36. > :54:41.special birthday present. She is 25 today. What a way to celebrate your

:54:42. > :54:46.birthday. She is pretty face Coco Vandeweghe who we saw on Centre

:54:47. > :54:54.Court. -- she is through to face Coco. We are once again heading back

:54:55. > :54:59.to Centre Court on this People's Sunday, a packed Centre Court

:55:00. > :55:00.awaiting one of the game's all-time greats, Serena Williams today con

:55:01. > :55:18.Annika Beck. Annika Beck was the player who put

:55:19. > :55:24.out Heather Watson 12-10 in the third, Martina Navratilova a special

:55:25. > :55:29.guests in the Royal box. And she will certainly appreciate this match

:55:30. > :55:33.will stop a real battle, Annika Beck has on our hands up against Serena

:55:34. > :55:38.Williams, who has been the champion here summary times, making her 17th

:55:39. > :55:43.appearance at the championship. She knows what it is all about. Serena

:55:44. > :55:46.will be hoping for an easier ride than she had in the last round, a

:55:47. > :55:59.3-set thriller against Christina McHale. A big moment here for

:56:00. > :56:07.Christina McHale on Centre Court. Nicely played. That is brilliant.

:56:08. > :56:13.That is a shaky game from Serena. She has made it, incredible! Talking

:56:14. > :56:27.to herself, Serena. McHale has the opening set! Serena looking much

:56:28. > :56:38.sharper second time around. Second set to the champion. What a way to

:56:39. > :56:45.finish! The champion has been tested to the limit. I'm proud of how I

:56:46. > :56:50.closed it out, the last game, I thought that was a very strong game.

:56:51. > :56:57.Being able to get through that match, it wasn't easy, but I was

:56:58. > :57:00.able to get through it. Where do you think your form is at the moment,

:57:01. > :57:06.and where do you think it needs to be? I think my form... Obviously it

:57:07. > :57:12.has to be somewhere to be competing at Wimbledon. I do believe that

:57:13. > :57:19.every match I hope to get better and I plan to get better. I am ready for

:57:20. > :57:22.it. I have been through a lot in my career on the court and off the

:57:23. > :57:36.court, and I have been in every position you can be in. It is very

:57:37. > :57:42.difficult. She came here last year so dominant and took the title. It

:57:43. > :57:48.has been a mixed year for since then, by years come through that

:57:49. > :57:52.battle and will be eager to get this one either way quite quickly. We are

:57:53. > :58:03.ready for this one, we can join our commentators

:58:04. > :58:17.will stop COMMENTATOR: A wonderful athlete. A sporting phenomenon with

:58:18. > :58:21.an amazing story. The first meeting for these players, this is Annika

:58:22. > :58:30.Beck of Germany. It is a strong time for German tennis. Annika Beck in

:58:31. > :58:31.the third round for the first time at Wimbledon. And what a moment this

:58:32. > :58:45.is for her to face Serena Williams. Possessor of the most fabulous

:58:46. > :59:22.serve. First time on Centre Court for

:59:23. > :59:49.Annika Beck. It was a great thrill on court 18

:59:50. > :59:53.yesterday, people were thronging the walkways to see Serena Williams play

:59:54. > :59:58.with her sister in doubles. It was one of the highlights of the day.

:59:59. > :00:06.The tennis was hot and it was quite an occasion.

:00:07. > :00:16.Serena has not been playing doubles the last few years. They played

:00:17. > :00:20.doubles in Rome and the French, losing early in but those Germans.

:00:21. > :00:45.-- in both those tournaments. And the talking about the doubles

:00:46. > :00:53.pairing, Venus and Serena won three Olympic golds together. 13 grand

:00:54. > :01:26.slam titles as well. Clearly just the most amazing play.

:01:27. > :01:35.Annika Beck has ended the last three years in the 50s in the rankings, 22

:01:36. > :01:39.years of age now. Beginning to really push up into the higher

:01:40. > :01:47.Essonne is of the women's game. A former French Open junior champion.

:01:48. > :02:11.-- higher echelons. Will she have enough power to bother Serena today?

:02:12. > :02:17.Serena not bothering to go to the chair this time. She kept Annika

:02:18. > :02:23.Beck waiting in the middle of the court for the coin toss, the court,

:02:24. > :02:33.the arena, the whole thing is about Serena. Once she's playing, it's all

:02:34. > :02:37.about her presence on court. A bit of superstition for Serena, after

:02:38. > :02:39.the first game of the set she always passes around the opposite side of

:02:40. > :02:57.the chair umpire. Looking very sharp early on. The

:02:58. > :03:00.Annika Beck serve is consistent and well-placed but not powerful. Serena

:03:01. > :03:26.will tactic -- will attack. You've just got to wonder about

:03:27. > :03:31.Beck's knows at this moment, having never played on this court, up

:03:32. > :03:39.against a six time champion who is so comfortable in this arena.

:03:40. > :03:49.UMPIRE: Let, first service. Has a very consistent demeanour, very even

:03:50. > :04:06.keeled, so she won't let us see any nerves that she might have.

:04:07. > :04:11.Terrific accuracy on the serve and quick with the first step. Mobility

:04:12. > :04:38.will not be an issue for Beck. It's going to be tougher for Beck to

:04:39. > :05:00.whether those first couple of powerful shots.

:05:01. > :05:08.That's an overrule. Serena Williams just getting their feet a bit

:05:09. > :05:15.tangled up. She was looking right down the ball. She will know whether

:05:16. > :05:24.it was in or out. A very fine overrule from the umpire. Has the

:05:25. > :06:34.deepest voice of any of the umpires. The best voice in tennis.

:06:35. > :06:41.Must be quite something to look down and see your tennis people, or your

:06:42. > :06:44.son or your daughter, playing on Centre Court. Serena Williams's

:06:45. > :06:58.parents hugging the other day. Of course, because it's such a long

:06:59. > :07:03.journey, all through the juniors. I have a son who plays in the ITF to

:07:04. > :07:05.and he is supposed to be here at junior Wimbledon but had a bad back

:07:06. > :07:17.and had to pull out. Of course, that's the ultimate

:07:18. > :07:26.dream, like Stevie Johnson. Stevie Johnson will be playing Roger

:07:27. > :07:27.Federer. His father is he and his dad said, "It doesn't get better

:07:28. > :07:56.than that". My mother once saw me against

:07:57. > :08:01.Ivanisevic on Court One and she tutted and you can hear your

:08:02. > :08:19.mother's tutting wherever you are. I don't even twitch.

:08:20. > :08:23.Serena already with a boatload of unforced errors. Just a little

:08:24. > :08:54.ragged to start this match. Annika Beck is not doing anything

:08:55. > :09:03.special so far. She's got to find her range and her

:09:04. > :09:46.rhythm. Not only did she get another second

:09:47. > :10:06.serve but she's got another shot at this wonderful service motion.

:10:07. > :10:11.That's good length from Beck and Serena Williams couldn't handle it

:10:12. > :10:30.that time at break of serve. SUE BARKER: Well, here we go again.

:10:31. > :10:34.Serena has lost her serve in the opening set. We'll be right back

:10:35. > :10:38.with this one. Over on Court One, Svetlana Kuznetsova has taken the

:10:39. > :10:41.second set to level the match against Sloane Stephens and Sloane

:10:42. > :10:45.Stephens is to live in one up but she's not happy, still talking to

:10:46. > :10:50.the umpire. She was given a warning for coaching, which see said wasn't

:10:51. > :10:52.happening. That happened about two micrograms ago and she's still

:10:53. > :10:58.talking to the umpire about it. If you want to watch that match it is

:10:59. > :11:06.live on the red button. Over on court to, to resume from yesterday,

:11:07. > :11:10.John Isner, to live in one up against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Out here

:11:11. > :11:15.today, he's broken in the opening game of the fourth set, so the

:11:16. > :11:20.two-time semifinalist going well in the early stages of today's match,

:11:21. > :11:24.so that is live online, an connected TV or live on the up. We'll keep you

:11:25. > :11:29.updated on that but let's go back to Centre Court.

:11:30. > :11:34.ANDREW CASTLE: And here on centre, Annika Beck with a break of serve.

:11:35. > :11:41.This is the woman who beat Heather Watson in an impressive first-round

:11:42. > :11:42.match, three match points against the British player in the first

:11:43. > :12:07.round. Starting to have better results in

:12:08. > :12:13.the majors this year. In the third round at Roland Garros as well.

:12:14. > :12:42.Before this year had only ever won one match here at Wimbledon.

:12:43. > :12:52.Much better constructive point from Serena. There is her mum and her

:12:53. > :12:55.sister. Her hitting partner in the white hat. The coach just to his

:12:56. > :13:37.right. ANDREW CASTLE: She'll have to put

:13:38. > :14:19.that behind straightaway. Serena didn't find her rhythm for

:14:20. > :14:23.the first three games. I think she could just pull back a little, and

:14:24. > :14:24.some shape to her shots over the net, a bit more height, give herself

:14:25. > :14:42.more margin. Longer rallies, five, six, seven

:14:43. > :14:46.shots, Serena is fine. Might now her shock tolerance is too low. Pulling

:14:47. > :15:16.the trigger to fast. Talked about the serve. That's just

:15:17. > :15:23.a magical motion. It's so fluid, perfect technique.

:15:24. > :15:45.ANDREW CASTLE: When we talk about that sense of invisibility, Annika

:15:46. > :15:51.Beck coming from three match points down against Heather Watson. Sam

:15:52. > :15:55.Querrey was two points down, the man who pulled off the biggest upset of

:15:56. > :15:59.the Championships yesterday, he was two sets down to Lukas Rosol in

:16:00. > :16:05.round top when you have looked at defeat, it does give you a

:16:06. > :16:08.strengthening thieving of how is she, Annika Beck, going to threaten

:16:09. > :16:16.Serena Williams when the going gets tough? She has to rely, I think, in

:16:17. > :16:22.a match like today on Serena playing less than her best tennis. She

:16:23. > :16:29.relies a lot on her speed, a lot on her accuracy, her constituency --

:16:30. > :16:32.can stay -- consistency. You just feel that Serena has way too much

:16:33. > :16:38.power and can hit through the defences of Annika Beck.

:16:39. > :16:50.Radwanska talked about that after one of her earlier round matches

:16:51. > :16:54.where she was through with too much point against an opponent. She said

:16:55. > :17:23.she feels like it is a second life, it frees you up.

:17:24. > :17:31.A second-round match for Serena was a lot to handle. Christina McHale

:17:32. > :17:33.played the round of her life. There are times when it looked like it

:17:34. > :18:27.might be a major upset. After that match, Serena said, "I

:18:28. > :18:42.plan on getting better in every match," and she usually does.

:18:43. > :18:47.The serve speeds are going to have to get a bullet of it. She's going

:18:48. > :18:51.to have to be very accurate if she serving at 75 or 79 mph. It's not

:18:52. > :19:12.going to be enough. On the defensive right from the word

:19:13. > :19:19.go. I know she's got more in there. A little bit more. A bit nervous,

:19:20. > :19:59.takes five miles an hour off it. Going a break down, Serena, and

:20:00. > :20:03.coming back winning three straight games and in control after 20

:20:04. > :20:10.minutes. Much better patients from Serena. She's willing to recognise

:20:11. > :20:11.you doesn't need to go as big. Beck doesn't have the weapons to trouble

:20:12. > :20:27.Serena. Will Williams one of 18 Americans in

:20:28. > :20:28.the draw of the most populous nation in the women's draw, Germany second

:20:29. > :21:44.with ten. Didn't take long to find a rhythm.

:21:45. > :21:45.40 mph, that is not coming back many times. She conflict that switch so

:21:46. > :22:07.easily. -- can flick that switch. Two women's matches on Centre Court

:22:08. > :22:27.today and one men's match after this.

:22:28. > :22:40.UMPIRE: New balls, please. Miss Williams leads 5-2, first set.

:22:41. > :22:43.ANDREW CASTLE: In control, in the sunshine. Serena Williams the six

:22:44. > :22:48.time champion here and top seed once again. This service motion and the

:22:49. > :22:51.comparison between the two players in terms of the fight to get through

:22:52. > :22:58.the court, it's very, very marked today. The average mph from Annika

:22:59. > :23:03.Beck in that last game, mid-70s, average first serve speed 84 but

:23:04. > :23:08.Serena 103 but she could opt that average in a couple of service games

:23:09. > :23:15.considerably. Always something in reserve. That is the first serve,

:23:16. > :23:21.this is the second. Serena can increase that any time. And the

:23:22. > :23:25.service not just about the power, the power is the first key that you

:23:26. > :23:28.look at, but it is also about placement and Serena can hit it to

:23:29. > :23:33.the four corners very easily and is so unpredictable with that. Then I

:23:34. > :23:37.think also a couple of other elements is, able to hit big serves

:23:38. > :23:42.an crucial points, big points. Serena has that ability. A lot of

:23:43. > :25:06.kick for safety. A 69 mph serve, begging to be hit.

:25:07. > :25:20.It's not just physical strength. That timing technique.

:25:21. > :25:37.The serve was better at 91 mph but into the rally, and this... Serena

:25:38. > :25:51.looking quickly, closing in on this first set.

:25:52. > :26:03.Beck must be wondering, "How can I make inroads on the Serena Williams

:26:04. > :26:05.game?" The grounds don't have enough heft on them. Serena has cut down

:26:06. > :27:13.the unforced errors. Annika Beck just one winner today,

:27:14. > :27:15.14 unforced errors from Serena. That's where she is getting most of

:27:16. > :27:25.the points. The work from Serena could be a

:27:26. > :28:36.little more precise. The crowd would like to see a little

:28:37. > :28:48.more of this. Closer contest. She might have to go red line a bit.

:28:49. > :28:59.She was completely out of shot to adopt that was hilarious.

:29:00. > :29:05.Unbelievable court coverage. Speedy. A little personality as well after

:29:06. > :29:08.winning that point and the crowd start clapping and Annika Beck

:29:09. > :29:25.throws her hands up, trying to get this crowd involved.

:29:26. > :29:31.One of the features of Amico Beck's first round match against Heather

:29:32. > :29:35.Watson was the court coverage of two of the finest athletes out there.

:29:36. > :29:40.This easily could have been Heather Watson playing Serena for a second

:29:41. > :29:45.Wimbledon in a row. Heather pushed her to the wrinkles last year.

:29:46. > :30:10.Heather Watson was two points away from winning a match.

:30:11. > :30:16.Not going to get too many opportunities with high forehands

:30:17. > :30:23.like that against Serena. You have to take that opportunity because

:30:24. > :30:34.that's coming next. 123. That is very quick. Fastest of the day.

:30:35. > :30:49.Could be the fastest of the tournament for Serena. 23rd for the

:30:50. > :30:53.tournament and it is six out of three to Serena Williams after just

:30:54. > :30:56.over half an hour. The two oldest players in the women's draw this

:30:57. > :31:02.year are Venus and Serena Williams. It is so wonderful to see Venus back

:31:03. > :31:06.of her game. The story of the Williams sisters is just amazing.

:31:07. > :31:11.Trailblazers, role models, champions. Inspiring others in the

:31:12. > :31:15.sport, they've done that right from the word go to talk with that in

:31:16. > :31:20.mind, I must suggest that people watch out for the film about another

:31:21. > :31:25.trailblazer, Althea Gibson. It is going to be at the British Urban

:31:26. > :31:31.Film Festival. It is wonderful. Twice a Wimbledon champion and she

:31:32. > :31:34.would go on to become the first black player to complete the women's

:31:35. > :31:41.golf tour as well. Amazing character. I just saw a picture of

:31:42. > :31:45.her receiving a trophy in 1957 when she beat an opponent in the final at

:31:46. > :31:47.Queen Elizabeth is, which is here in the media centre. Lookout for that

:31:48. > :32:00.film. You met her, didn't you? And 12 years old she came to speak

:32:01. > :32:05.to a group of young juniors in the state. Why don't spy ring speech,

:32:06. > :32:10.talking about her tennis career, being a chess champion, switched to

:32:11. > :32:14.golf to become a golf champion, and then she said, I also enjoy singing!

:32:15. > :32:20.She started singing, and she had a beautiful voice. She was good at

:32:21. > :32:29.everything she did. The history of this place makes it so special. She

:32:30. > :32:35.went on to meet Angela Mortimer in 1958. Serena Williams always happy

:32:36. > :34:16.to be tribute to her influence. UMPIRE: Annika Beck challenges the

:34:17. > :34:39.call. The ball was called out. First service.

:34:40. > :34:44.Trying to accelerate through the ball, trying to get a foundation

:34:45. > :34:50.from which to attack in this set. She had a break in the first. Trying

:34:51. > :34:51.to stay close early. Against the big players, the big presences, that is

:34:52. > :35:15.what you have to do, keep it close. Too many errors. Not having a good

:35:16. > :35:21.time and are the moment. Not really expressing herself. Too many

:35:22. > :35:41.mistakes will stop Serena looks like she is still in second gear.

:35:42. > :36:38.That game has gone by fairly quickly. It is a set and a break.

:36:39. > :37:10.UMPIRE: Annika Beck challenges the call. The ball was called in.

:37:11. > :37:17.What has characterised this match so far is a sense of nerves. First time

:37:18. > :37:31.on Centre Court and playing a six time champion. Cannot be easy.

:37:32. > :37:36.You just feel like this is too much of a task today for Annika Beck. She

:37:37. > :37:39.does not have enough firepower to bother Serena. Serena does not look

:37:40. > :37:52.as if she has been pushed. In the early stages of the first set

:37:53. > :38:16.Serena had a bunch of mistakes which helped Annika get on board.

:38:17. > :38:25.STUDIO: If you want to continue watching you can, it is now one BBC

:38:26. > :38:33.One. Just before we head out to Court Number Two. We discredit show

:38:34. > :38:40.you what on Court Number One. Sloane Stephens, she was 5-3 and 74, Budgie

:38:41. > :38:47.was broken, and are experienced opponent, Svetlana Kuznetsova is

:38:48. > :38:53.serving to stay in the match. You can watch that on the red button.

:38:54. > :39:00.Another match getting underway. This one held over because of bad light.

:39:01. > :39:06.Juan Martin del Potro up against Lucas Pouille, and you can follow

:39:07. > :39:10.that on the website. But we are heading over to Court Number Two to

:39:11. > :39:16.see John is now against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tsonga came back and took

:39:17. > :39:19.the third set. They resume play at the start of the fourth set, and

:39:20. > :39:23.John is now has had trouble with a leg injury. Tsonga has taken

:39:24. > :39:26.advantage, levelling the match at two sets all. Let's join our

:39:27. > :39:39.commentators. COMMENTATOR: Tsonga has got off to a

:39:40. > :39:43.blistering start on People's Sunday. Haddin created a break point

:39:44. > :39:49.opportunity yesterday, and suddenly broke is an twice. Went on to

:39:50. > :39:58.complete the job comfortable with. We are on serve here in the fifth.

:39:59. > :40:06.Isner came on to court with some strapping on his knee. Has taken

:40:07. > :40:10.strapping off. A bizarre moment at the start of the match at 40-15 up,

:40:11. > :40:16.the American got called for a foot fault. Have not ever seen that

:40:17. > :40:27.before for Isner, it put him off his stride and contributed to the break.

:40:28. > :40:32.This is all set up for a cracking final set.

:40:33. > :40:39.Isner has been struggling to find any rhythm whatsoever. Tsonga is on

:40:40. > :41:02.the wrong side of the court. Historically, both these players

:41:03. > :41:08.quite far down in terms of the return games won. It will not be a

:41:09. > :41:18.match filled with too many breaks of serve. The fact that Tsonga did not

:41:19. > :41:20.lose a point on serve in the fourth set suggests he is serving pretty

:41:21. > :41:33.well so far today. Just a couple of points on serve

:41:34. > :43:00.that Jo has lost on serve in total. So hard to control the ball, even if

:43:01. > :43:14.you get your strings on it, off that kind of speed and accuracy.

:43:15. > :43:22.The Isner serve is not just about the fact it is coming from such a

:43:23. > :43:34.great height and the pace, it is the accuracy as well. Another one tight

:43:35. > :43:46.to the lines. As quick as you like. 3-2, Isner. The nominal serving for

:43:47. > :43:54.Isner in this set stop he has made 12 first serves, and he has all 12

:43:55. > :44:04.point. It is an amazing turnaround. More importantly, he has found a

:44:05. > :44:14.greater level of calm. He was not a happy man during the fourth set. The

:44:15. > :44:21.umpire gets on the blower again. I don't think that was a request from

:44:22. > :44:28.either player that time. Something he needed to get from the referee's

:44:29. > :44:31.office, I'm not entirely sure. There could be a delivery service coming

:44:32. > :44:36.out to Court Number Two, that is the bottom right of your picture. Court

:44:37. > :44:41.12 right next to that. A lovely little section of the ground. And

:44:42. > :44:51.most importantly, the roof open and a fair bit of blue sky hovering

:44:52. > :44:59.above FW 19. Some wonderful matches for the fans lucky enough to get

:45:00. > :45:05.their tickets online yesterday. I'm sure there is more youngsters around

:45:06. > :45:33.the ground today. What a lovely thing for them to experience.

:45:34. > :45:40.Just checking whether the ball is on the line, it was deep on the

:45:41. > :45:43.baseline. Tsonga did a great job after that particular shot of

:45:44. > :45:56.keeping the ball wide and low down to that Isner backhand.

:45:57. > :46:03.So important for him to get that ball on the backhand of Tsonga if he

:46:04. > :46:08.can. He can make a few things happen if he does. Tsonga almost got the

:46:09. > :46:39.backhand to give himself enough room. Not quite, though. A bit up.

:46:40. > :46:55.Just wide. That second serve. 80 mph from Tsonga. Every kick, very safe,

:46:56. > :47:01.but... A little surprised that it is that low in speed. Isner, when he

:47:02. > :47:15.sees the ball, can hit a massive return.

:47:16. > :47:52.Such a big weapon, this Tsonga forehand. When he has time.

:47:53. > :47:56.The crowd in the warm sunshine are warming up to the battle. What a

:47:57. > :48:06.shocker from Tsonga. The majority of the crowd want the

:48:07. > :48:38.Frenchman to win. The touch was absent at the start of

:48:39. > :48:40.the fourth set, but the big fellow has some soft hands when he is in

:48:41. > :48:59.the groove. Smoothly dumped by the ball girl at

:49:00. > :49:01.the other end. Normally the line umpires, especially covering the

:49:02. > :49:10.ones straight down the middle that are in the firing line.

:49:11. > :49:24.When Isner is on court, look out, wherever you are.

:49:25. > :49:30.Nobody can believe it. This was straightforward, maybe a little

:49:31. > :49:38.complacent. You see the step back that John makes after his serve.

:49:39. > :50:06.It is a slow start that made it difficult when he got there.

:50:07. > :50:16.It is quite possible that is simply a hangover from that simple missed

:50:17. > :50:35.forehand the point before. Tsonga has a firm foothold all of a sudden.

:50:36. > :50:43.That is such a brave serve from the American. Yes, he has one of the

:50:44. > :50:52.best serves in the world, but you need courage with a server like

:50:53. > :51:15.that. 122 mph. Very small margin for error on such a big point.

:51:16. > :51:18.Pace on the previous placement and bounce on the second taking it out

:51:19. > :51:40.of reach of Tsonga. A little bit of pressure at 30-30.

:51:41. > :51:42.At 30-0, it looked pretty easy. So important to practice the third

:51:43. > :51:54.shot. You could see how he took a step

:51:55. > :51:58.back and had to get the big body moving. By the time he got there and

:51:59. > :52:05.tried to get out of the way of the ball, it proved to be harder than it

:52:06. > :52:09.first looked at the beginning. Movement around the court is of

:52:10. > :52:19.paramount importance for any top-level player. For these guys,

:52:20. > :52:26.like Isner, who are six foot ten... It is even more important. They have

:52:27. > :52:29.to get to the ball and balance in order to play the shots that they

:52:30. > :52:38.are able to hit as winners. Isner out of his chair, serving

:52:39. > :52:57.second. -- Jo out of his chair. First of its tennis academy I went

:52:58. > :53:39.to in the states, in Florida. It seems inevitable that people will

:53:40. > :53:42.attack the Isner double hander. You have to keep them honest and go into

:53:43. > :54:01.the forehand side with the attack. You cannot get predictable Tsonga.

:54:02. > :54:12.Fantastic reach and well played from Isner.

:54:13. > :54:15.Great control to get it back down the line and controlling every inch

:54:16. > :55:08.of the net. A little predictable into the

:55:09. > :55:09.forehand side of Isner. Winning grant the backhand side to great

:55:10. > :55:28.effect. The ball wasn't that high, just a

:55:29. > :56:11.slight misjudgement. Isner doing a much better job in

:56:12. > :56:18.getting the ball back into play in this fifth set. So far, hasn't been

:56:19. > :56:34.able to carve out any break point opportunities.

:56:35. > :56:37.Some small incremental improvements on his return, but he needs to be

:56:38. > :56:44.wary. The first couple of points could

:56:45. > :57:22.make all the difference. You can see the frustration from

:57:23. > :57:26.Tsonga there. He knows if he can get his racket on the ball, he has to

:57:27. > :58:28.make the ball over the net. Another unforced error of the

:58:29. > :58:31.forehand side for Isner. Just six for the Frenchman. He has played the

:58:32. > :59:15.tidier tennis. I'm not sure how good the footwork

:59:16. > :59:17.was from Isner, but stretches his long arm out and flicks it with his

:59:18. > :59:30.wrist. Takes great skill. Fantastic shot there from Isner.

:59:31. > :59:34.We'll focus on the serve, but you don't get inside the top ten in the

:59:35. > :59:36.world without having more to your game than that, and we got a great

:59:37. > :59:45.glimpse of it. He is a tough competitor, as well.

:59:46. > :59:52.He credits a lot of that toughness he has developed over the years to

:59:53. > :59:57.being the youngest brother of three. Tells a funny story of when he was

:59:58. > :00:02.eight or nine. He says how his eldest brother knocked his head

:00:03. > :00:08.through one of those metal you lock bike locks to a bedpost and left him

:00:09. > :00:16.there for a couple of hours. He described it as tough love. I don't

:00:17. > :00:24.know if his brother messes with him now. Maybe things have changed

:00:25. > :00:29.around a bit, I would imagine so. However humorous it was for him at

:00:30. > :00:36.the time, I think... But he's a fighter. He has been inside the top

:00:37. > :00:43.20 for six plus years. Been as high as number nine in the world. Can you

:00:44. > :01:28.get past Tsonga to make it through to the last 16?

:01:29. > :01:34.You can see Jo, when you can rush him on that side, that right hand is

:01:35. > :01:38.too dominant on that shot, it should really be the left. He squeezes the

:01:39. > :01:39.face of the racket across the ball rather than getting round the

:01:40. > :01:58.outside of it. So keen to protect the backhand side

:01:59. > :02:05.that he got himself moving to swiftly to that side and couldn't

:02:06. > :02:07.get back. It is an indication of how important the first serve is for

:02:08. > :02:14.Tsonga. The sun is a bit of an issue for

:02:15. > :02:32.Tsonga. He is having to vary his toss to

:02:33. > :02:33.make sure the contact point isn't directly in line with the sun.

:02:34. > :03:28.Dealing with it well. The Frenchman knows a thing or two

:03:29. > :03:49.about 24 hour sporting occasions. This may get delayed by the darkness

:03:50. > :03:53.and the piece of wood that needs to be chiselled for these courts when

:03:54. > :04:09.something special happens is maybe just starting to get car now.

:04:10. > :04:13.If he hits serves like that, he will be unbroken for the rest of the

:04:14. > :04:19.year. Unbelievable placement. You could have a row of players out

:04:20. > :04:35.there that still wouldn't return it. That is a serve that gets everyone

:04:36. > :04:56.involved. The crowd, blinds people. -- linespeople. He makes such good

:04:57. > :05:02.use of the height of that contact point. The angles.

:05:03. > :05:09.The angles he creates greater than anybody else. You can see where he

:05:10. > :05:14.gets caught because of the speed of the serve. You can't get tighter

:05:15. > :05:16.into the net. It is not always a great idea for him to throw in that

:05:17. > :05:54.serve and volley. It was a terrific shot. Isner

:05:55. > :06:01.seemingly winded. He didn't bother to run for this one.

:06:02. > :06:30.He's taking the full 25 seconds, by the looks of things.

:06:31. > :06:39.The fatigue from the end of the point going over to the next one.

:06:40. > :06:46.So often we see players like Isner who rely on their big serves snuff

:06:47. > :06:56.out any opportunities that they offer up.

:06:57. > :06:58.I wouldn't have been surprised to see a big ace or an unreturnable

:06:59. > :07:10.here. Or a double fault, perhaps. Feeling

:07:11. > :07:29.the pressure. First chance in this final set for

:07:30. > :07:31.either man. It falls to Tsonga C of a couple of double faults from the

:07:32. > :07:48.American. It was in width ways. Was it in on

:07:49. > :07:49.the service line lengthways? If it was, it was the most perfect of

:07:50. > :08:18.service. That is the serve I thought he would

:08:19. > :08:19.hit a couple of points ago. That serve has got him out of a spot of

:08:20. > :08:37.bother. Playing these points can be so much

:08:38. > :08:47.more simple with a shot like that. UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:08:48. > :08:58.Tsonga had his head on that he has had at times today.

:08:59. > :09:05.He has to tip his hat because that was good in terms of getting himself

:09:06. > :09:09.out of trouble, the American. He gifted the opportunity with a couple

:09:10. > :09:17.of double faults and the opportunity was taken away from him. That is

:09:18. > :09:23.what Isner can do, dents your dreams with just a couple of shots. It is

:09:24. > :09:29.not just the sheer number of aces that a player has the ability to hit

:09:30. > :09:35.or does hit, but also the ratio between aces and double faults that

:09:36. > :09:46.matters. Isner's ratio is exceptional. He serves far fewer

:09:47. > :10:04.double faults and Isner leads the career best ratio. 7.3.

:10:05. > :10:11.Dominated by current players. The accuracy of service is improving

:10:12. > :10:14.through the years. It is bad news for those having to face John Isner

:10:15. > :11:03.and Coke. -- co. A fairly unorthodox serve at times,

:11:04. > :11:07.in terms of his preparation, Tsonga. So strong he is not able to get that

:11:08. > :11:43.much rotation with the upper body, but able to find all four corners.

:11:44. > :11:51.It's a great reaction to not being able to break through in the first

:11:52. > :11:54.game. He will think he did nothing wrong, which he didn't, but

:11:55. > :12:02.sometimes the disappointment can linger a bit.

:12:03. > :12:30.No tie-break in this fifth set, but an extra challenge, was that?

:12:31. > :12:37.Again, sometimes just finding anyway possible to get the ball back in

:12:38. > :12:44.court can be enough. No pace on that return from Tsonga. Isner going for

:12:45. > :13:12.too much too soon, perhaps. A little bit impatient.

:13:13. > :13:19.It's exceptionally well there, Jo. Maybe a little impetuous with this

:13:20. > :13:21.shot. Did he needed to go for it where he was in the court against

:13:22. > :13:41.Isner? That is good from Isner. That serve

:13:42. > :13:45.firm enough, wide enough, to ensure that the Tsonga shot wouldn't be at

:13:46. > :13:47.feet. It cut the angle off, take the backhand volley as high as possible

:13:48. > :14:06.and firm as you like through it. It is also fine if the ball just

:14:07. > :14:11.drops gently in front of him like this one.

:14:12. > :15:14.Still takes a lot of touch to be able to hit a winner like that.

:15:15. > :15:23.13 games gone, just the one opportunity for Tsonga. There is no

:15:24. > :15:26.question about these two, they are so dominant with their serves, it

:15:27. > :15:31.will be interesting to see whether it is a moment of inspiration or an

:15:32. > :15:36.error that separates these two today. I say today, but obviously,

:15:37. > :15:44.there is a chance that it won't end today. The final set in that match

:15:45. > :15:51.in 2010, that's lasted eight hours. The match lasted 11 hours and five

:15:52. > :15:59.minutes. This is newborn as a match in terms of that one. Neither man is

:16:00. > :16:04.thinking about that. Isner coming out to serve to level things out. He

:16:05. > :16:09.has an unusual serve if you look at it. He is so strong, so powerful. In

:16:10. > :16:17.many ways, if you think of federal's serve, the dedication with the top

:16:18. > :16:22.part of the torso. Isner Ali Jo is straight up and, boy, is he strong.

:16:23. > :16:29.If you can picture a John McEnroe serve, that body rotation almost

:16:30. > :16:33.means that, at some point, the back is virtually facing the other end of

:16:34. > :16:35.the court. No such thing there with Jo, he has an awful lot of speed

:16:36. > :17:00.generated through the shoulder. His coach is trying to keep up and

:17:01. > :18:00.encouraged. He is puffing again a little, isn't

:18:01. > :18:30.he? If he is feeling the effects

:18:31. > :18:35.physically, you will want to finish these points as quickly as possible.

:18:36. > :18:36.So when he gets the chance, expect him to step in and have a good swing

:18:37. > :19:00.at it. It was too little, too late, the

:19:01. > :19:15.previous forehand. Another one misses its intended target. There is

:19:16. > :19:24.no doubt that Isner's final set is a topic of discussion here. That

:19:25. > :19:30.gentleman is probably going back to refer to it. What was it again? It

:19:31. > :19:44.can't have been 70-68, there is no way! It was.

:19:45. > :20:03.Jo has been struggling to beat players of Isner's calibre.

:20:04. > :20:10.The American has only ever had one top ten win in a major in the course

:20:11. > :20:14.of his career. That was against Andy Roddick in 2009. I am surprised at

:20:15. > :20:51.that. Such a dangerous player. Oh, what an angle from Isner. He has

:20:52. > :20:57.struggled at times since the resumption of play today on balls

:20:58. > :20:58.that have very little pace, but that time managed to generate a lot of

:20:59. > :21:12.pace and a very acute angle. Tsonga are trying to guess which way

:21:13. > :21:23.the American was going to go. He guessed wrong.

:21:24. > :21:34.There has been no sign of the train are back on. Isner had some work on

:21:35. > :21:38.his left knee. Just a few games after they came out on court. There

:21:39. > :21:43.was some taping on there. The taping came off. The trainer gave him a bit

:21:44. > :21:50.of a deep tissue massage and hang around for two or three games. But

:21:51. > :21:56.no need for Carlos Fernandez to get on the phone to call him back, which

:21:57. > :22:08.is good to see. Maybe just a bit stiff still. But moving well now and

:22:09. > :22:22.no signs of any lingering injury. He looks quite relaxed, doesn't he?

:22:23. > :22:33.Still looking for another full-time coach. Did a bit of work with Mardy

:22:34. > :22:38.Fish. But he has been on tour for so many years. He can handle time on

:22:39. > :22:40.his own. The crowd are really into this, and that is exactly what we

:22:41. > :23:21.wanted to see on this middle Sunday. You can see how important it is for

:23:22. > :23:30.John to somehow carved that ball some way onto the double hander of

:23:31. > :23:36.the Frenchman. And you can see why. It is a lethal shot. Tsonga is

:23:37. > :23:40.serving well. Even if Isner can get him on his racket and direct it

:23:41. > :23:47.towards the backhand side, you feel is of Tsonga will have enough time

:23:48. > :23:55.to run around it anyway. Something is just blowing next to the chair of

:23:56. > :24:07.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It was picked up by the ball boy.

:24:08. > :24:13.We have been talking about how difficult it is for John Isner, with

:24:14. > :24:19.his tall frame, to get down to low balls. Tsonga is a tall man himself,

:24:20. > :24:51.and does so well. Bends down, nice, firm base and lovely, soft hands.

:24:52. > :25:02.He delivers another ace, his 15th of the match.

:25:03. > :25:08.Tsonga polished that game off and immediately went on another job

:25:09. > :25:13.around the court, and to his towel. Dried himself off all stop he hasn't

:25:14. > :25:16.stopped moving since that serve was hit. I think that sends a very firm

:25:17. > :25:18.message to the other end of the court, where Isner is struggling a

:25:19. > :25:50.bit physically. He's energised right now, Tsonga,

:25:51. > :25:58.trying to make it happen. That was in his hands. Not always going to be

:25:59. > :26:01.the case, though. He started well on a number of these service games. He

:26:02. > :26:53.hasn't been able to capitalise yet. He served and thought about

:26:54. > :27:03.volleying and then drifted behind and saw the quality of return from

:27:04. > :27:07.Tsonga. Because he is so tall, he is able to hit it flat wide. Old school

:27:08. > :27:28.tennis, wide wide with a volley. It is a great return from Tsonga.

:27:29. > :27:33.Enabling him to dip that ball at the feet of the oncoming server. Isner

:27:34. > :27:36.just cannot get down low enough to deal with it. This is the biggest

:27:37. > :27:55.point of the match so far. Not his biggest serve, but it was

:27:56. > :28:28.getting there. He has taken a few out wide. Excellent from Isner.

:28:29. > :28:41.Got a bit of traction early in the game, Tsonga. But it slipped away

:28:42. > :28:46.from him in the end. The Frenchman has played players that are six foot

:28:47. > :28:52.four over nine times prior to this match, AMP has won five and lost

:28:53. > :28:57.four. He has played the likes of Juan Martin del Potro. He lost to

:28:58. > :29:04.him in 2009. He has played Karlovic here in 2009. He had a nice run

:29:05. > :29:09.against tall players where he won four in a row before losing to

:29:10. > :29:14.Karlovic again here in Wimbledon in 2015. For somebody that doesn't

:29:15. > :29:19.always return as expertly as others, that is not a bad win loss record

:29:20. > :29:29.for Jo. But the pressure is building. Talking of records, he is

:29:30. > :29:34.also looking to tie the record for the Frenchman with the most Grand

:29:35. > :29:43.Slam matchwinners. It is 102 at the moment. Those are two of the four

:29:44. > :30:40.musketeers, as they were known. Just snatched at that one little

:30:41. > :30:44.bit. Just the second point the American has won when the rally has

:30:45. > :30:55.gone above nine shots. Tsonga has won nine, Isner just the two.

:30:56. > :31:05.He found the backhand off the return, but couldn't keep it away

:31:06. > :31:08.from the forehand this time. It is often more comfortable going inside

:31:09. > :31:15.out on that forehand. We saw the error on that wing as he tried to

:31:16. > :31:30.track it down the other line. But no problems with that one.

:31:31. > :32:09.He is trying to find the newest all available. -- the newest ball.

:32:10. > :32:14.He struggles on that forehand grip at times. He gets a little too much

:32:15. > :32:24.cover at times. We have seen a number of mis-hits, and you could

:32:25. > :32:28.see that one dropping into the net. Can't really keep a Continental grip

:32:29. > :32:43.and open the face up and block it back to often, Isner. That is

:32:44. > :32:51.fabulous. A bit of a classic to open up the weakness. He recognises that

:32:52. > :32:54.Isner is struggling physically, so if he can open up the court, make

:32:55. > :33:16.the big man move more, all the better. Smart play by the Frenchman.

:33:17. > :33:27.Credit to Isner there. When Tsonga blocks the return back, he has got

:33:28. > :33:47.to be aggressive with the next shot. He has to generate pace.

:33:48. > :34:18.Tsonga did well to stay in the rally. In the end, all to no avail.

:34:19. > :34:26.That was a little rash. Going back to your point, the more shots he

:34:27. > :34:31.makes Isner play, the better. Simply from a physical standpoint, Isner

:34:32. > :35:39.will expend more and more energy. It is hard to see where the break is

:35:40. > :35:41.going to come at the moment. Both are looking comfortable on serve and

:35:42. > :35:46.they look as if they have good written with the weapons they have,

:35:47. > :35:50.the first serve and forehand as well. Let's face it, there aren't

:35:51. > :35:55.going to be any return winners between these two. I don't think

:35:56. > :36:00.there is going to be an opportunity. So they will be looking to get a

:36:01. > :36:08.foothold on the third shot, the fourth shot. But in order for them

:36:09. > :36:12.to be able to do that, they have to make sure the return is good enough

:36:13. > :36:25.so they can get on the front foot with the next ball.

:36:26. > :36:35.Because most of them -- both of them play at the back, for Jo, it is a

:36:36. > :36:42.smart play. He has won nine and lost just two. He enjoys that far more.

:36:43. > :36:47.So he is not going to give Isner way out with the serving volley. That is

:36:48. > :36:53.why the smart money is going to be on Tsonga. This is now already

:36:54. > :37:02.obviously a war of attrition. Tsonga is in a better position, physically.

:37:03. > :37:43.That was a before and after picture that gentleman was taking.

:37:44. > :37:53.He is always looking for this. He knows Isner will be trying to get

:37:54. > :38:24.into the backhand side. And when he can, he will.

:38:25. > :38:36.133 miles an hour on that first serve all stop you know in the

:38:37. > :38:40.commentary box on court 18, there is the equivalent of a swear box there

:38:41. > :38:47.for commentators. So you have got to put a pound in if you mention that

:38:48. > :38:54.match at any time. It's impossible not to, of course. When Isner is on

:38:55. > :39:22.court. I'm making excuses for ourselves, Mark, obviously.

:39:23. > :39:30.Like the sun coming out in an English summer. This doesn't happen

:39:31. > :39:35.often. But it is a smart play from Tsonga. There is not a lot else he

:39:36. > :39:41.could have done, to be fair. I think Isner was looking to try and close

:39:42. > :39:43.the net there and finish the point. Well played, Tsonga. Again, he wins

:39:44. > :39:55.the first point on the Isner serve. Ushering it out with his hands,

:39:56. > :40:23.Isner. He has taken the effort out of

:40:24. > :41:18.Tsonga's hands. STUDIO: On it goes. While they

:41:19. > :41:26.change ends, we can to you that Richard Gasquet is through in four

:41:27. > :41:30.sucks, and he will play the winner of Isner or Tsonga -- in four sets.

:41:31. > :41:35.Another good tournament for the Frenchman. And a good tournament for

:41:36. > :41:41.another Frenchman, the 32nd seed. He is without Dram Martin da Ponte

:41:42. > :41:46.wrote in four sets. This is the third day in a row for Del Potro to

:41:47. > :41:50.be out on court. Maybe a bit too much tennis for him after that

:41:51. > :41:58.sensational victory over Stan Wawrinka. Add earlier onto the

:41:59. > :42:06.court, Serena Williams in Serena form. 6-3, 6-0, she went through

:42:07. > :42:10.against Germany's Annika Beck. So the six time champion stays on

:42:11. > :42:16.course for yet another rant slam victory. She's chasing Steffi Graf's

:42:17. > :42:20.number of 22. A delighted Centre Court crowd rise to a great

:42:21. > :42:24.champion. Serena Williams, through to the fourth round. That is what

:42:25. > :42:32.has been happening elsewhere. Back we go to this marathon.

:42:33. > :42:39.Every time one of them steps up to the line, you wonder whether it will

:42:40. > :42:50.bring the finishing line into sight, but so far it keeps getting pushed

:42:51. > :43:43.into the distance. Isner was unable to adapt.

:43:44. > :43:52.Gasquet, who plays the winner of this match, will be liking this.

:43:53. > :43:53.Even if his fellow Frenchman comes through, something is being taken

:43:54. > :44:18.out of the tank today. I suggest in or out, this is what

:44:19. > :44:22.Isner needs to try and do. He has just got to have a swing at some of

:44:23. > :44:26.these returns when he gets the racket on the ball. It's the only

:44:27. > :44:45.way he is going to break the Tsonga serve.

:44:46. > :44:55.Another game in the pocket. And actually, it was potentially a big

:44:56. > :45:01.challenge, because given where this is going and the speed and accuracy

:45:02. > :45:05.with which Isner serves, he might get to a big point and need

:45:06. > :45:15.challenges up his sleeve, Tsonga. So 40-0 up on his own serve possibly

:45:16. > :45:19.could come back to haunt him. You can't expect the lines people to get

:45:20. > :45:23.it right every time with that delivery coming down from the

:45:24. > :45:31.American's racket. Terrific return, skidding off the grass. And it gets

:45:32. > :45:35.the opening point on the board. So far, Isner has done a great job at

:45:36. > :45:37.immediately hitting back and levelling the scores on his service

:45:38. > :45:57.game. So tough for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to

:45:58. > :46:03.know what to do, as it is for anybody returning this Isner

:46:04. > :46:07.delivery. Do you stand out wide and offer a different look at it? A bit

:46:08. > :46:14.more movement before he hits the serve? May be stepped up now, come

:46:15. > :46:31.inside the baseline for the second serve. But it's just so big, and he

:46:32. > :47:37.can do so much with it. There is no formula that you can simply turn to.

:47:38. > :47:47.Again, the point good from Tsonga. Reels off four straight points, the

:47:48. > :47:53.American. Trying to stop the tally of three times in his career he has

:47:54. > :48:02.been up two sets to love and loss the matches, whereas Tsonga trying

:48:03. > :48:07.to add to his tally of coming back from 2-0 down, famously on centre

:48:08. > :48:16.court against Roger Federer, just twice in his illustrious career,

:48:17. > :48:21.Roger, losing from two sets up. Here and followed by the next major

:48:22. > :48:26.tournament at the US Open where Djokovic managed to turn the tables

:48:27. > :48:33.on Roger Federer from 2-0 down, as well. The remarkable forehand return

:48:34. > :48:39.that will make its way into the hall of fame. A lot of people, lucky

:48:40. > :48:51.people, who have tickets have made their way to court number two. This

:48:52. > :48:55.is obviously a standout match. Up next, the Bryan brothers playing

:48:56. > :49:02.doubles. At this rate that will be round about 7pm!

:49:03. > :49:32.The drama, no matter when they finish, will build and build.

:49:33. > :49:40.UMPIRE: Mr Isner is challenging the call.

:49:41. > :49:48.It looked as if the slice took hold of the ball early. Just. You can see

:49:49. > :49:51.why it is important to have challenges up your sleeve later in

:49:52. > :50:10.this set. Great play from Isner. Going so

:50:11. > :50:33.wide. Then following it up with this. Wrong footing him.

:50:34. > :50:57.Absolutely. It also gives Tsonga something to think about.

:50:58. > :52:17.Acres of space and he caressed it into it.

:52:18. > :52:25.Tsonga will want this done by 8pm. France are playing in the

:52:26. > :52:31.quarterfinal of the European Championships. Against England... I

:52:32. > :52:46.am sorry, Iceland! Started a lot of the games with the

:52:47. > :52:55.serve out wide to be forehand side. Did it at the resumption of play

:52:56. > :53:01.today and Jo read it. Credit to the American once again.

:53:02. > :53:11.He has recognised... He needs to change a view things up. A little

:53:12. > :53:15.change. He has been doing well at taking the first point of the game.

:53:16. > :53:25.He has not managed to achieve it on the second but this time he does. We

:53:26. > :53:26.could be approaching a different outcome on one of Isner's service

:53:27. > :53:52.games here. Did not want to play the point to

:53:53. > :53:55.tentatively. Disappointed with his shot selection more than anything

:53:56. > :54:03.else. Should've gone back up the line, Tsonga.

:54:04. > :54:08.Those are the chances you have to take. Because generally right behind

:54:09. > :54:16.them is one of those that cannot be returned. He hacks to commit to a

:54:17. > :54:21.particular game plan, Tsonga, when he gets the opportunity in these

:54:22. > :54:26.rallies. He has to know exactly what he is going to do. Whether he will

:54:27. > :54:28.step up, go for the quick weather, all work its way into the point. --

:54:29. > :54:50.quick winner. Timing is everything now for Tsonga.

:54:51. > :55:04.He needs to see a fume more of those. There is another one -- few

:55:05. > :55:10.more. Tsonga has been at 75% with his first serve and that is why,

:55:11. > :55:16.after 25 games of the final set, we have yet to have a break of serve.

:55:17. > :55:18.We had one break point. A momentous moment, but it was quickly raised

:55:19. > :55:40.with an ace -- he erased it. It is getting pretty hot out there.

:55:41. > :55:48.At the beginning of resumption of play, the beginning of the fourth

:55:49. > :55:56.set, it was more overcast. Cooler. It is pretty warm now. We need to

:55:57. > :56:01.qualify it is British warm, rather than actual holiday location warm.

:56:02. > :56:10.This time last year, there were record temperatures. We were hitting

:56:11. > :56:12.37 degrees. We were. We have not touched that on the mercury scale

:56:13. > :56:24.yet so far at these championships. I am pretty sure Isner would like it

:56:25. > :58:00.a couple of degrees cooler. Routine brilliance on serve from the

:58:01. > :58:11.Frenchman. Nothing short of emphatic. Three hours and 45 minutes

:58:12. > :58:17.on the match clock. They cannot be separated at 13-13 in this final

:58:18. > :58:47.set. One man certainly looks more fresh than the other.

:58:48. > :59:02.That was a good body serve from Isner. Always wise to keep varying

:59:03. > :59:22.the serve, even if you are having success in one particular direction.

:59:23. > :59:39.It goes to show you do not have to to have the passing shot past the

:59:40. > :00:19.player, or trying to, going at the player sometimes pays dividends.

:00:20. > :00:29.14-13 in the final set. Looking at Isner's five set record, going past

:00:30. > :00:34.where the tie-breaker would have been, he has lost his last three.

:00:35. > :00:43.One to the great Tommy Haas at the French Open in 2013. He lost to

:00:44. > :00:49.James Ward in the Davis Cup, 15-13 in the final set. He also lost to

:00:50. > :01:00.Marin Cilic here last year, 12-10 in the fifth. And a couple of other

:01:01. > :01:11.losses. And another classic at Roland Garros. Also losing to Marin

:01:12. > :01:16.Cilic 9-7. Nicolas Mahut, we mention that match against as we will

:01:17. > :01:22.continue to. David Nalbandian, the Australian Open, he won that. 10-8

:01:23. > :01:39.in the fifth. The one top ten when he has had, and major title, against

:01:40. > :01:44.Andy Roddick, winning in the 7-5. He has lost more than he has won when

:01:45. > :02:04.it has got past 6-6. How much more has this got in it?

:02:05. > :02:17.I should imagine his tie-breaker record is ready good, right?

:02:18. > :02:42.Isner's within the opening set in the tie-breaker, his 300th career

:02:43. > :02:50.tie-break win. He has lost 175. Tsonga with a win in the tie-breaker

:02:51. > :02:53.here, went to 173, he has lost 125. Between the two it is hard to say

:02:54. > :03:11.who you would favour. Did not look as though it would be a

:03:12. > :03:16.good enough return, from the middle of the court on the forehand for the

:03:17. > :03:23.Frenchman. The first brittleness we have seen from Tsonga. It feels like

:03:24. > :03:26.it has come out of nowhere. He has been rock solid on serve. Right now,

:03:27. > :03:56.Isner is two point away. Did he really need to be that

:03:57. > :04:00.ambitious? Just so conscious, both players, of keeping it off their

:04:01. > :04:05.opponent's forehand. It was a great kick serve from Tsonga, but the

:04:06. > :04:42.forehand was so close to being out. There was not really a kick, more of

:04:43. > :04:48.a slice. Quite a brave serve in the end. The trusty big forehand. He

:04:49. > :04:55.knows he can use the crowd to his advantage, as well.

:04:56. > :05:13.Tsonga trying to energise himself and the crowd. To be fair, they do

:05:14. > :05:20.not need a lot of encouragement. They are loving this final set. It

:05:21. > :05:28.is all about finding an edge. You may think that is what happens on

:05:29. > :05:32.court, maybe not. If Jo can make the crowd heard, because there is no

:05:33. > :05:39.doubt about it, the lion's share with the Frenchman, then maybe it

:05:40. > :06:09.would have a negative impact on Isner.

:06:10. > :06:19.He threaded the needle. It was delicately balanced in the previous

:06:20. > :06:26.game in terms of Tsonga's survival in this match. The reverse can be

:06:27. > :06:36.said now. In terms of where Isner is standing, stranded at the net.

:06:37. > :06:54.That was unlucky. He read the serve well. He just tries to bunt it back

:06:55. > :07:01.deep. Tsonga read it but could not fashion

:07:02. > :07:24.the return of serve he wanted. They were not on the edge of their

:07:25. > :07:30.seats, they were out of their seats! Jo was there, he had a racket on the

:07:31. > :07:35.ball. He could not quite control it and nudge it down the line.

:07:36. > :07:41.Fantastic from Isner, given that he was under so much pressure. What a

:07:42. > :07:53.dodgy volley. A little bit pushy, but he got away with it.

:07:54. > :08:00.That looked like a serve that was 90% out and 10% in, but it was all

:08:01. > :08:12.in, in the end. On -- unplayable.

:08:13. > :08:30.Phenomenal! He had to pick this Isner approach

:08:31. > :08:35.shot and did. He gambled on him going back behind him. He was there

:08:36. > :08:49.with just an off time. Down the line. So hard to make.

:08:50. > :08:59.It is those moments of brilliance that could just swing it.

:09:00. > :09:22.You can feel the tension rising up a notch, every point.

:09:23. > :09:36.UMPIRE: New balls, please. A couple of captivating games. SUE

:09:37. > :09:44.BARKER: On and on it goes. Four minute short of four hours. It was a

:09:45. > :09:52.long way to match the record set in 2010. 70-68. It was one record after

:09:53. > :09:59.another. It took three days and lasted 11 hours and five minutes.

:10:00. > :10:05.183 games in total. 215 aces between them. An unbelievable match that

:10:06. > :10:10.nobody will forget. And they struck at the closest friendship after it.

:10:11. > :10:14.They shared a piece of history. Both playing their part in one of the

:10:15. > :10:20.all-time great matches at these championships. That was in 2010. I

:10:21. > :10:28.wonder how long we have to go in this one.

:10:29. > :10:40.It is back to the future for John Isner. We have had Hollywood movie

:10:41. > :10:46.scripts being thrown at us. The dose was talking about it about the rain

:10:47. > :10:51.delays. Marcus Willis, John Isner, Nicolas Mahut. This is a sequel and

:10:52. > :10:57.it is doing well. In general, sequels do not do as well as the

:10:58. > :10:59.original. The fact it is John Isner against another Frenchman, I think.

:11:00. > :11:06.It adds something to it. Nicolas Mahut is still going well in

:11:07. > :11:35.the tournament. It was a good change-up from Tsonga.

:11:36. > :11:51.He has been peppering the backhand of the deuce side.

:11:52. > :12:08.It is important for Tsonga to keep Isner guessing.

:12:09. > :12:14.And that means sometimes going to that strength, as we saw there.

:12:15. > :12:24.Isner almost made what probably would have been a winning forehand.

:12:25. > :12:37.He has targeted areas he has predominantly not gone to in that

:12:38. > :13:15.particular game. Good hands with the drop shot and

:13:16. > :13:24.then with the pick-up volley. He looks a little bit edgy on this. It

:13:25. > :13:31.was a forehand poke. In actual fact, I think it was a decent shot. Tsonga

:13:32. > :13:48.did well to get up to it. Isner was equal to it.

:13:49. > :13:56.Yet again we see Isner struggle when Tsonga can get the ball down to his

:13:57. > :13:59.feet. It is so uncomfortable, dealing with these kinds of low

:14:00. > :14:43.balls, being such a tall man. That simply was not a good enough

:14:44. > :14:44.approach shot. Super conservative from Isner. Did not have the right

:14:45. > :14:56.placement. You can see how predetermined he is

:14:57. > :14:59.in terms of where he takes the position just inside the service

:15:00. > :15:04.line. We have the chance to get another step in and tighter to the

:15:05. > :15:07.net would have made it a volley, rather than a half-volley. A chance

:15:08. > :15:14.for the Frenchman again. I should qualify that. One eighth of

:15:15. > :15:32.a chance! It is easy to say in hindsight but

:15:33. > :15:33.baby on these -- may be on the service, Tsonga should be giving him

:15:34. > :15:46.a different look at it. The umpire has lost count! LAUGHTER.

:15:47. > :16:11.He is nodding and smiling. Just checking that all is well. I

:16:12. > :16:16.think he is keen to get a bottle of water or something for himself. And

:16:17. > :16:20.they are checking they have got enough balls, he is thinking ahead.

:16:21. > :16:29.Smart umpiring. Who knows where this is heading? The last few games have

:16:30. > :16:32.not been meandering towards a conclusion, it has been pulsating

:16:33. > :16:39.stuff with the closeness of some of these returning games and wondering

:16:40. > :16:46.whether Isner can keep finding the serve against Jo. Don't forget,

:16:47. > :17:00.these are two top 20 players. Both of them have been top tenors. Isner

:17:01. > :17:06.reached his highest ranking of number nine. It is a high-quality

:17:07. > :17:09.match. As I said earlier, I think the drama and detention will just

:17:10. > :17:11.built to what will be a wonderful conclusion. But when that is is

:17:12. > :17:52.anyone's guess. Slipped from Isner. Awkward, as you

:17:53. > :17:57.can see. That didn't look great for the big man. We haven't had one of

:17:58. > :18:05.those rallies for a while. 13 shots in it. And I think this rally will

:18:06. > :18:09.probably hurt Isner more than that way. The length of that rally will

:18:10. > :18:19.probably take a bit more puff out of him. Hopefully, he's OK. He's just

:18:20. > :18:26.feeling the right hip area. He could have taken a little bit more time if

:18:27. > :18:29.he wanted. He does have a medical time-out, of course. We saw the

:18:30. > :18:48.trainer out earlier for the left knee.

:18:49. > :18:54.Isner has challenged it straightaway. And I think Jo also

:18:55. > :18:57.knows that has missed the line. You could see exactly what Tsonga was

:18:58. > :19:02.trying to do in this rally. He wanted to run his opponent from side

:19:03. > :19:06.to side to side, but in the end, he took too much of that forehand,

:19:07. > :19:15.wasn't aggressive enough through it and pushed it wide. It can be a

:19:16. > :19:26.dangerous thing to change the pace as much as he has there.

:19:27. > :19:35.So difficult to be nimble enough when you are six tentlike Isner to

:19:36. > :19:48.be able to turn back -- when you are 6-foot ten, like Isner. If he gets

:19:49. > :19:56.it moving side to side, any movement is going to benefit Jo-Wilfried

:19:57. > :19:58.Tsonga. There is no doubt he is thinking really hard about this and

:19:59. > :20:20.try to formulate the tactic required to win it. That isn't it.

:20:21. > :21:13.Oh, boy, what a dramatic way to bring up much point. It had

:21:14. > :21:23.everything. A touch lucky from Isner. A bad miss at the end from

:21:24. > :21:33.Tsonga. A code violation coming. But more importantly, match point.

:21:34. > :21:57.The pressure got the better of him there. Can you believe it? Isner was

:21:58. > :22:30.nowhere near there. He went back to that backhand side,

:22:31. > :22:32.the spot where he almost hit the cleanest. He had to make that a

:22:33. > :22:58.first serve, and he did. On that match point, he went out

:22:59. > :23:35.wide. Wonderful from Tsonga. I don't care who you are, how

:23:36. > :23:40.experienced you are, how many times you have played on the big stage. To

:23:41. > :23:47.force yourself to be as positive as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was in those last

:23:48. > :24:36.three points takes a very special personality and character.

:24:37. > :24:58.Isner is trying to push the pain to the back of his mind.

:24:59. > :25:06.That was a really tentative serve. Isner could be really feeling it

:25:07. > :25:12.physically. Tsonga has let him off the hook again. That has been one of

:25:13. > :25:16.the things in his career. He hasn't had a consistent pattern with the

:25:17. > :25:20.return in terms of stance, what he wants to do, whether to chip or

:25:21. > :25:24.whether to hit. In some of the big moments against the elite, he has

:25:25. > :25:33.not known exactly what he wants to do, whereas they are very set in

:25:34. > :25:36.their formula. Well, the pace has come down considerably on those last

:25:37. > :25:44.couple of Serbs from Isner. The outcome is the same for the moment.

:25:45. > :25:50.-- the last couple of Serbs. And the courage required to hit through

:25:51. > :25:54.those ground strokes is the same for Isner as it was for Tsonga. Real

:25:55. > :26:02.credit to both these players. For the most part, they have kept their

:26:03. > :26:08.cam. But there was one moment when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, at 30-30, lost

:26:09. > :26:15.that incredible lengthy rally that had everything. And they are yet to

:26:16. > :26:23.retrieve the ball from Fulham! That is why he got the code violation. I

:26:24. > :26:29.don't condone that, obviously. But you can't blame him, maybe. That was

:26:30. > :26:35.potentially a crucial point that he just missed out on. And they are

:26:36. > :26:44.under intense pressure, these two men. UMPIRE: time.

:26:45. > :27:05.This is a glorious sight. No sign of the covers today. Play got under way

:27:06. > :27:06.at 11.30. It was a good decision from these guys to make their way to

:27:07. > :27:37.Court Number Two. It is so difficult to get enough

:27:38. > :27:43.pace on the ball once it starts dropping like that. Needs to work

:27:44. > :27:52.harder with his feet to get up on the baseline. Jo looks very

:27:53. > :27:57.comfortable with those points. If you can just whip through this game,

:27:58. > :28:03.the Frenchman, it will be in Justin to see what pace Isner -- it will be

:28:04. > :28:15.interesting to see what pace Isner delivers. This game stands in stark

:28:16. > :28:19.comparison to the drama of the previous one on the Frenchman's

:28:20. > :28:35.serve, where he had to save the match point. No such trials and

:28:36. > :28:40.tribulations. Arguably the most important point coming up now after

:28:41. > :28:45.the match point. Just to see how fit Isner is. The last serve in the

:28:46. > :29:02.previous game was 108 off his first serve. He has been averaging 127.

:29:03. > :29:09.Gorgeous! Feathery touch. We have seen him struggle, but he dealt with

:29:10. > :29:22.that one beautifully. Great racket work. That is just three miles an

:29:23. > :29:24.hour above-average. But if you can have accuracy like that, it is not

:29:25. > :29:30.going to make a massive difference. He is concentrating on basement.

:29:31. > :29:33.Even a 119 mile an hour serve is strong enough to get the job done --

:29:34. > :29:56.is concentrating on placement. Against the 12th in the world, it is

:29:57. > :30:02.going to give him a few more opportunities. That lack of pace, he

:30:03. > :30:16.is going to have more time to see the ball coming at him, Tsonga.

:30:17. > :30:28.What athleticism! Jumping for the smash. He may well be jumping for

:30:29. > :30:35.joy soon. He senses something here. He knows this could be his

:30:36. > :30:37.opportunity. Isner is struggling physically. Not so much on the

:30:38. > :30:50.serve. Well taken. Now is not the time for

:30:51. > :31:29.a bit of fun, though. Exactly what was needed there. Just

:31:30. > :31:36.had to make Isner play it. AUDIENCE: Tsonga!

:31:37. > :31:49.A third time would leave him serving for the match. Somehow, Isner

:31:50. > :31:56.gathers himself and rediscovers the pace on his first serve. Maybe he

:31:57. > :32:21.has just been lolling him into a false sense of security.

:32:22. > :32:29.Not easy to play these rallies, because there is not a lot of wind

:32:30. > :32:36.out here at the moment. You could arguably say that Tsonga might be a

:32:37. > :32:40.little tentative, but credit to him. He saw his opportunity, put his foot

:32:41. > :32:55.down on the forehand and he has gained himself another break point.

:32:56. > :33:11.UMPIRE: game, Tsonga. Can you believe it?

:33:12. > :33:17.In the end, it was an unforced error that handed Tsonga the chance to

:33:18. > :33:27.serve out for the match and a place in the fourth round. You go back to

:33:28. > :33:32.the fourth point of that game, the electrifying movement and smash from

:33:33. > :33:36.Tsonga that kept him in it. Just wondering how much of the Tsonga

:33:37. > :33:42.movement contributed to the forehand missive John Isner. It was a big

:33:43. > :33:49.serve, 132. Tsonga managed to get his racket on it, but it was a

:33:50. > :33:53.relatively easy half court ball. And more often than not, that is

:33:54. > :33:57.bread-and-butter, even under pressure like this. But I'm pretty

:33:58. > :34:03.sure Tsonga gave it a bit of extra movement, faked maybe one side. In

:34:04. > :34:07.the middle of the court, Isner had a choice. You either go crosscourt,

:34:08. > :34:15.down the line, down the middle of the court. But I think maybe this

:34:16. > :34:19.movement from Tsonga, he gave him a dummy. And you never know, that

:34:20. > :34:38.might have made all the difference. He said one match point. -- saved

:34:39. > :35:08.one match point. All of his aces on the due side have

:35:09. > :35:42.come down. Another one to add to the collection. He can sense victory.

:35:43. > :36:10.UMPIRE: Mr Isner has two challenges remaining.

:36:11. > :36:20.What an exhibition he has put on here. He is making this game look

:36:21. > :36:30.easy. Let me tell you, it is anything but. Showing great focus.

:36:31. > :36:34.He knows the writing is on the wall. He is not writing his name into the

:36:35. > :36:50.next round. It will be Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

:36:51. > :37:08.He went for a massive second serve. OK, he's 40-0 up. He has got a bit

:37:09. > :37:10.of leeway, but why so big, Jo? Cameras at the ready for the moment

:37:11. > :37:36.of victory. It's on his racket. And he's done it. And look at the

:37:37. > :37:40.delight for Tsonga. As he finally sees off the American, John Isner.

:37:41. > :37:48.Another classic here at Wimbledon for the American. The first one in

:37:49. > :37:54.2010, he exited with a win. Not today. Defeat for Isner. And a

:37:55. > :38:00.fourth-round appearance once again at Wimbledon for Tsonga. How well he

:38:01. > :38:13.kept his nerve. He said the match point. He comes back from 2-0 down

:38:14. > :38:17.for the fourth time in his career. A prolonged standing ovation from this

:38:18. > :38:24.packed house on Court Number Two. This is exactly what you want on the

:38:25. > :38:28.people's Sunday, just the fourth time in Wimbledon history we have

:38:29. > :38:36.had a play on the middle Sunday. They have been treated to something

:38:37. > :38:43.special. And you have to say, that man in the pink shirt was the man

:38:44. > :38:50.that most of the spectators wanted to see come out on top. It took him

:38:51. > :38:59.79 games in total. Four hours and 24 minutes. But he did it. Middle

:39:00. > :39:07.Sunday sees one of the fans' favourites with a win. And a place

:39:08. > :39:21.in the next round to take on fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

:39:22. > :39:35.He is such an engaged in character. He has a wonderful connection with

:39:36. > :39:40.the crowd, no matter where he plays. Cavalier at times on court. Typical

:39:41. > :39:50.Gallic flair. But my goodness, what a fighter too. He signs the balls,

:39:51. > :39:53.but more importantly, he signs his name into the next round at this

:39:54. > :40:02.year's Championships at Wimbledon. SUE BARKER: that must be one of the

:40:03. > :40:08.matches of the championship he. And for all those people who went online

:40:09. > :40:12.yesterday to get a ticket, a ground pass, have really been treated to a

:40:13. > :40:17.magnificent match, a magnificent battle between two great players,

:40:18. > :40:20.the big server, John Isner from America, the great athlete from

:40:21. > :40:26.France, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. You just wonder how much is left in the tank

:40:27. > :40:31.for Jo-Wilfried after that. Four hours and 25 minutes, this match

:40:32. > :40:36.went on, and he will have to turn around tomorrow and take on Richard

:40:37. > :40:41.Gasquet, last year's semifinalist. But what an absolute treat, what a

:40:42. > :40:46.joy to watch this match. We have had absolutely everything. And what a

:40:47. > :40:54.way to finish off. One dive, one side and then the other. And what a

:40:55. > :41:00.reaction. That is what he is famous for. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, through to

:41:01. > :41:10.the fourth round here at Wimbledon. I think everybody is taking a breath

:41:11. > :41:13.after that. And now we are going to be heading back to Centre Court in

:41:14. > :41:18.just a moment. But that was the scene a few hours ago more where

:41:19. > :41:22.Serena Williams was in action. She was taking on Annika Beck of

:41:23. > :41:28.Germany. She was taken to three sets in her match previously, but didn't

:41:29. > :41:34.need long today. She lost three games to the young German, winning

:41:35. > :41:39.6-3, 6-0. That was what the champion needed, an easy match after such a

:41:40. > :41:43.test in her last round. She is enjoying being on Centre Court on

:41:44. > :41:50.people's Sunday. But more importantly, happy to be back in the

:41:51. > :41:53.fourth round at Wimbledon. Serena, if you could write your

:41:54. > :41:58.midweek report card of how Wimbledon has been going, how would you assess

:41:59. > :42:04.what you have been through so far? I would just write "Survived". We

:42:05. > :42:10.asked tennis fans get so caught up and we expect you to win matches, we

:42:11. > :42:14.expect Novak to win matches, and it becomes headline news when you guys

:42:15. > :42:19.don't. Can you put us in the position of what that feels like?

:42:20. > :42:25.Obviously, Novak is making the headlines today. Yeah, it's an

:42:26. > :42:35.interesting position to be in. But at the end of the day, we just try

:42:36. > :42:40.our hardest to always win. Nobody can be invincible. Is that just the

:42:41. > :42:44.ebb and flow of sport. As a sports star, do you just have to accept

:42:45. > :42:52.that sometimes, these things happen? I guess so. Obviously, I don't think

:42:53. > :43:01.anyone is perfect. I think there are a lot of athletes who have been

:43:02. > :43:07.close to perfect. And on every day, they do the best they can. You end

:43:08. > :43:11.your where others have gone on. What keeps you going, is the love of

:43:12. > :43:18.winning, the hatred of losing? It is a bit of both. It is also the fact

:43:19. > :43:23.that I am out here playing and doing something I dreamt of doing growing

:43:24. > :43:28.up. And I still have the unity to do it, so that keeps me going. This is

:43:29. > :43:32.people's Sunday, where friends and families can come and watch. I was

:43:33. > :43:35.wondering about your family. It is great to see your mum buzzing

:43:36. > :43:40.between you and Venus of the matches. How important is your mum

:43:41. > :43:46.not just to your success, but to you in life? My mum is obviously super

:43:47. > :43:51.important to me, my life, my career. I would not be sitting here if not

:43:52. > :43:56.for her. It is always great to see her. She is so respectful of other

:43:57. > :44:04.players, applauding as well. It seems like a nice family unit. And

:44:05. > :44:07.in terms of Kuznetsova, who you play next, you would again cast her as a

:44:08. > :44:11.friend and someone you have played a lot of matches with. I have a lot of

:44:12. > :44:15.respect for her, but she is also a very intense opponent for me. I want

:44:16. > :44:27.to be able to win. I am sure she wants the same. So I am going to do

:44:28. > :44:31.my hardest to do the best I can. SUE BARKER: it is a busy time for

:44:32. > :44:46.her. She will be back on court tomorrow.

:44:47. > :45:05.This match is live over on BBC One. And it Katarina Witt Macara the

:45:06. > :45:14.house now defeated Strycova. She is through 6-4, 6-2.

:45:15. > :45:21.So she will be back on court tomorrow. We are going to take you

:45:22. > :45:24.out to a doubles match now taking place on court number 12 between the

:45:25. > :45:28.British pair of Naomi Broady and Heather Watson, up against Alexander

:45:29. > :45:33.Panova and Shelby Rogers. We join it in the first set, the start of the

:45:34. > :45:38.tie-break. The commentators armless Miley and Chris Bradman. -- Liz

:45:39. > :46:10.Smiley and Chris Bradman. A terrific point from Broady. Two

:46:11. > :46:16.really good lobs. Good enough to finish the point off with the

:46:17. > :46:19.backhand volley. In the tie-break you serve to the opposite end from

:46:20. > :46:28.which you have been serving the whole set. It takes a bit of

:46:29. > :46:41.adjusting. We hear quite a lot of noise because the adjacent court is

:46:42. > :46:44.the Jo -- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga match. A perfectly timed cross. Did not

:46:45. > :46:51.move too early, Watson. That was well read. Waiting for

:46:52. > :48:21.that. A terrific volley from Panova. She tries to hit over the ball on

:48:22. > :48:25.the return of the serve, Broady, but sometimes when the ball is not in

:48:26. > :48:30.the right position, you have to make adjustments. You cannot always play

:48:31. > :48:37.the shot you want to play, sometimes you have to play the shot you need

:48:38. > :48:41.to play. It is tough to concentrate because of the noise from the other

:48:42. > :48:45.court after every point, because of the drama. John Isner could not do

:48:46. > :49:14.it again, could he? She made like she was moving for the

:49:15. > :49:19.middle, Broady, and then stood her ground. Just enough of an invitation

:49:20. > :49:32.for the opponent to go up the line. This is the netperson's job. Making

:49:33. > :49:33.her opponent think she was going to the left, so a little bit of cat and

:49:34. > :51:40.mouse. Good tennis. The angles created,

:51:41. > :51:47.quick exchanges at the net. That is what the fans love to watch. 4-2 up

:51:48. > :51:50.in games and points in this tie-breaker, in this set, Broady and

:51:51. > :52:13.Watson. Huge pressure for them now. That was a nice touch. Very nicely

:52:14. > :52:18.done. Not easy to hit, the volley was below the height of the net and

:52:19. > :52:24.Heather Watson hack to get down. Always difficult to play a shot that

:52:25. > :52:26.is dropping. Had enough under spin on it so that when it hits the court

:52:27. > :52:52.it just dies. Made it. A favourite shot. The

:52:53. > :53:02.backhand that goes up the line. It was well struck. Set point.

:53:03. > :53:26.Has been very solid on the return so far, Watson.

:53:27. > :53:35.Expected it again, Panova. Did well to hang onto it. I am not too sure

:53:36. > :53:39.whether Heather Watson thought maybe Panova would move to the middle, but

:53:40. > :53:50.she was not going anywhere. One of those volleys that do not bounce. If

:53:51. > :53:55.you hit her in a three quarters backhand, come on and pass me, would

:53:56. > :54:00.be the question to Rogers. Someone is at the baseline and someone is at

:54:01. > :54:04.the net. They don't play that way. The transition shot. You see it in

:54:05. > :54:28.singles, also. Maybe the fact they don't put enough

:54:29. > :54:33.emphasis on doubles. All of these girls, they are capable. They just

:54:34. > :54:41.have to be shown how, they have to be taught. Michelle looking on. How

:54:42. > :54:45.many matches has she watched in her career as a tennis mum. Second set

:54:46. > :55:22.point. That looked very nervous. The wind

:55:23. > :55:28.really picked up. There was a gust really blowing behind Heather

:55:29. > :55:36.Watson. The second serve toss was a little bit dodgy, wasn't it? A bit

:55:37. > :55:56.nervy. It is windier than it was a few hours ago.

:55:57. > :56:18.Overhead. Setting up a third set point.

:56:19. > :56:34.Missed it. First set to the British pair. 49 minutes. SUE BARKER: What

:56:35. > :56:39.an entertaining tie-break. This is the score live, 4-4 in the second

:56:40. > :56:44.set and Naomi Broady serving with the game point to go up 5-4. The

:56:45. > :56:49.doubles matches on the red button if you want to continue watching. Over

:56:50. > :56:55.on BBC One it is this match featuring Alexander Zverev, who has

:56:56. > :56:58.made a comeback. He will not be happy with that because it was a

:56:59. > :57:06.game point to go up 5-2 against Tomas Berdych. If you want to watch

:57:07. > :57:11.that match it is on BBC One. We can catch up with the news of the

:57:12. > :57:17.day. Nick Kyrgios is through to the fourth round to face Andy Murray,

:57:18. > :57:23.after defeating Feliciano Lopez in four sets on Court Number One.

:57:24. > :57:27.Thoroughly entertaining match and beautiful shotmaking from both sides

:57:28. > :57:32.of the net. Such a great character, one of the big stories of tennis

:57:33. > :57:36.hears and Nick Kyrgios is through to the fourth round to face Andy Murray

:57:37. > :57:48.tomorrow. I have a feeling that will be on Centre Court. But what a

:57:49. > :57:53.battle on Court Number Two. Almost four and a half hours it took

:57:54. > :57:58.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to defeat John Isner and he did it in style. All of

:57:59. > :58:04.these fans who went online to get the ground passes probably wondered,

:58:05. > :58:09.what match will I be able to see? It was this one. An absolute treat. The

:58:10. > :58:13.match of the Championships so far. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to the

:58:14. > :58:17.fourth round. The wonder how much that has taken out of him but he

:58:18. > :58:30.goes to the top of the list of Frenchman with the most Grand Slam

:58:31. > :58:35.wins, 103. Lucas Pouille of France defeated Del Potro. Del Potro put

:58:36. > :58:40.out Stan Wawrinka early in the tournament, but his challenge ended

:58:41. > :58:41.on Court 12. Lucas Pouille goes through to face Bernard Tomic in the

:58:42. > :58:55.next round. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will face Richard

:58:56. > :59:01.Gasquet, who won in four sets. The last time there were four Frenchman

:59:02. > :59:07.in the last 16 at Wimbledon was in 1929. Four in the fourth round, in

:59:08. > :59:13.the last 16. 16 Frenchman started the Championships. In the ladies,

:59:14. > :59:17.Serena Williams looked in impeccable form on Centre Court, dropping three

:59:18. > :59:18.games. What a difference to her last round when she was pushed to the

:59:19. > :59:33.limit. She stays on course for grand slam

:59:34. > :59:38.title number 22. Another battle on Court Number One.

:59:39. > :59:45.Kuznetsova coming back from 5-2 down to win this against the American

:59:46. > :59:48.Sloane Stephens. Kuznetsova has been a quarterfinal is three times at

:59:49. > :59:54.Wimbledon and she will face Serena Williams. That will be a match to

:59:55. > :00:00.look forward to tomorrow. The first match on Centre Court saw

:00:01. > :00:05.Coco Vandeweghe serving here at match point, putting out Roberta

:00:06. > :00:11.Vinci, last year's US Open finalist. She really has a game suited to

:00:12. > :00:14.grass. She is through to the fourth round. Her best was the

:00:15. > :00:29.quarterfinals. She is on her way. The Centre Court crowd really

:00:30. > :00:36.enjoying that entertaining match. And through to the fourth round for

:00:37. > :00:41.the second time, back in 2009, is the Russian. She came through 7-5,

:00:42. > :00:43.7-5 today. Going well in the singles. She has been runner-up in

:00:44. > :01:04.the doubles twice here. And she will face... That was a

:01:05. > :01:14.wonderful lob to end. She put out good bit of yesterday. -- Petra

:01:15. > :01:20.Kvitova. It seems a quiet day. 4000 ground

:01:21. > :01:24.passes given out so plenty of room for people to mill around. All the

:01:25. > :01:32.action on the big show courts. BBC One is on Centre Court. We will head

:01:33. > :01:36.over to Court Number One IIc Jiri Vesely against Joao Sousa, who is

:01:37. > :01:40.aiming to be the first Portuguese player to reach the round of 16 at a

:01:41. > :01:47.Grand Slam. He is up against the big hitter. This is their first big

:01:48. > :01:56.meeting. So far going the way of Jiri Vesely. We can join our

:01:57. > :02:00.commentators. COMMENTATOR: He is compact on the

:02:01. > :02:02.return. He likes to step cross and cut off the angle. Very efficient in

:02:03. > :02:41.that regard. The Portuguese on the board for the

:02:42. > :03:04.first time. I was going to call Sousa the best

:03:05. > :03:07.tennis player Portugal has ever had. Nobody has threatened quite like he

:03:08. > :03:16.has in the second week of a Grand Slam. Spent his formative years

:03:17. > :03:25.between 15 and 20 training in Barcelona, where he still bases

:03:26. > :03:35.himself. He is a very bright lad. He speaks six languages. That is his

:03:36. > :03:44.coach. Wearing the cap. They have been together a long time. They met

:03:45. > :03:52.at the academy. He has been around the top 50 for

:03:53. > :03:59.the last three years, Sousa. He said he loves the clay courts. It favours

:04:00. > :04:11.his forehand. But he has plenty of work to do here.

:04:12. > :04:50.It is like trying to lob a skyscraper. Six foot six and a

:04:51. > :05:11.thunderous dismissal to this smash. He has the facility to take the

:05:12. > :05:13.backhand early and look at the good court position. There was only

:05:14. > :05:40.winner of that point. He has many problems right now. He

:05:41. > :06:03.is the seeded player, but you would not know it.

:06:04. > :06:10.Almost a little sympathy applause for Sousa, who is struggled to get

:06:11. > :06:12.in on the Vesely service games. He has been as deep as 30, but not

:06:13. > :06:45.beyond. He is still 22. Will be 23 soon

:06:46. > :06:50.enough, Vesely. From the Czech Republic. Six foot six. 64th in the

:06:51. > :07:03.world but many think he should be higher.

:07:04. > :07:07.The 31st seed. The 27-year-old from Portugal, who is serving to stay in

:07:08. > :07:26.this first set. He has been up against it, winning

:07:27. > :07:27.three from 11 points off his second serve. He normally prides himself on

:07:28. > :07:44.his grand shots. It has been an area where he has

:07:45. > :07:45.really been struggling. Up at 42%, first-serveds in. Compared with 60%

:07:46. > :08:22.from his opponent. That was sublime. It is amazing how

:08:23. > :08:25.you free off when you get a double break cushion behind you. That was

:08:26. > :09:06.with ease from Vesely. Jiri Vesely provided one of the

:09:07. > :09:11.upsets of the opening week. Cochran of the fancied eighth seed, Dominic

:09:12. > :09:22.Thiem. He now has a chance to do something

:09:23. > :09:28.he has not done before and push his way into the fourth round. It would

:09:29. > :09:33.be a prize for both players. Sousa has not been that far and he is

:09:34. > :09:40.doing it behind a serve that is affected. It is simplistic. He has

:09:41. > :09:44.gorgeous timing. He has the Pete Sampras toe lift at the beginning of

:09:45. > :09:51.the action. And gets up there to hit the ball at its apex. A thunderous

:09:52. > :09:55.and easy power he has. You can see he was dangerous enough to oust

:09:56. > :10:02.Dominic Thiem in straight sets. All tie-breaks. A real menace on this

:10:03. > :10:05.surface. The ball skidding off after the serve. Another close-up look as

:10:06. > :10:39.he serves for the first set. One of the big pluses of his game is

:10:40. > :10:44.he stands up tight to the baseline on the backhand. You can imagine

:10:45. > :10:46.when Sousa gets his fearsome forehand firing, he might get rushed

:10:47. > :11:15.in that regard. The second ace of the match. 130

:11:16. > :11:36.mph. That is not a Sunday afternoon ramble, it is motoring!

:11:37. > :11:45.UMPIRE: Mr Vesely is challenging the call. The first challenge of the

:11:46. > :11:46.match. Both have three in their pockets so he might as well use one

:11:47. > :12:28.up here. He was too quick and powerful for

:12:29. > :12:37.the Portuguese. Very efficient backhand. Just crunches through it,

:12:38. > :13:01.flat and hard. Through the baseline of Sousa.

:13:02. > :13:11.There is something on Sousa's mind there. Not entirely sure. I think he

:13:12. > :13:27.heard a knock-macro chord. That is what he suggested to the umpire, but

:13:28. > :13:36.the umpire did not hear it. -- net cord.

:13:37. > :13:43.And the added pressure of trying to serve this set out, but the serve is

:13:44. > :13:47.being tested more in this game than it has been in the opening set so

:13:48. > :14:04.far. The first time he has been taken to deuce.

:14:05. > :14:10.He has established a couple of breaks of serve over the course of

:14:11. > :14:24.this first set and he is in danger of relinquishing one right here.

:14:25. > :14:42.The fastest of his match so far. Not of the tournament, 133 he has

:14:43. > :15:03.topped. Certainly pushing down on that.

:15:04. > :15:07.That was always tricky because it had no energy of it and just sort of

:15:08. > :15:51.fell on Sousa. How well he has played. Beating the

:15:52. > :15:59.qualifier in the first round without dropping a set. And we talked about

:16:00. > :16:06.the big upset. Dominic Thiem, the string, in the second round. With

:16:07. > :16:11.three tie-breaks. -- the Austrian. He is used to winning big batches on

:16:12. > :16:16.this court and starting with confidence. I am sure it was him I

:16:17. > :16:22.commentated. He played the Boys' Singles doubles final on this very

:16:23. > :16:29.court, years ago, probably 2011. He became the Australian Open Boys'

:16:30. > :16:34.Singles and doubles champion. He is playing very efficiently and a real

:16:35. > :16:41.handful. Landing a lot of first serves, bullying serves. Not giving

:16:42. > :16:42.Sousa much of a look in. Getting inside the court and rushing his

:16:43. > :17:04.opponent effectively. It is unappreciative Court One

:17:05. > :17:14.crowd. -- it is an appreciative Court One crowd. For Joao Sousa, it

:17:15. > :17:31.is all about his foot speed, his ground shots. The chap under the cap

:17:32. > :17:37.is his coach. Here is his man, having will include the first set,

:17:38. > :17:47.Joao Sousa. -- having relinquished the first set.

:17:48. > :17:53.Two drop shots that were not exactly out of the top drawer, it's fair to

:17:54. > :18:11.say. But it goes the Czech Republic's way in the end.

:18:12. > :18:17.He has got this ability, Jiri Vesely, much to this man's

:18:18. > :18:22.frustration, of stepping up the court and just leaning through the

:18:23. > :19:30.ball. It has got a lot of power on it.

:19:31. > :19:42.Well, the trend continues. There was some concerted chuntering in

:19:43. > :19:46.Portuguese from Sousa back towards his coaches and friends and family

:19:47. > :19:58.at the end of that. He is in a right old pickle at the moment. That is

:19:59. > :20:09.Vesely's coach on the right-hand side. He will be

:20:10. > :20:31.absolutely thrilled with the way this contest started.

:20:32. > :20:37.And he hasn't really found his rhythm at all. The points are not

:20:38. > :20:41.being paid -- played the way he would like them. Jiri Vesely has

:20:42. > :20:47.taken a stranglehold of this match early. And of course, it is a big

:20:48. > :20:51.court. There is nowhere to hide when you are not hitting the ball nicely.

:20:52. > :20:56.I bet he feels really up against it now. Misery compounded by another

:20:57. > :21:36.rocket from Vesely. Just when you thought there was a

:21:37. > :21:37.name for the Portuguese player. Look at the pass from Vesely. He is on

:21:38. > :22:00.fire right now. Another ace, number five. We said

:22:01. > :22:03.this would be a day of history for one of these two. Neither has

:22:04. > :22:09.reached the fourth grant Grand Slam previously. Both equalling their

:22:10. > :22:16.best runs at one of the best tournaments that tennis can offer.

:22:17. > :22:17.Looking very much at the moment as if it will be Vesely creating some

:22:18. > :22:54.history. Kind of feels like a bit of sympathy

:22:55. > :24:01.applause for the 31 seed. The crowd are waiting for him to activate.

:24:02. > :24:16.Sousa had never won a macho before this week. He broke that duck. He

:24:17. > :24:19.was too much for the qualifier in round two, so here he is in the

:24:20. > :24:23.third round of a slum again. He has been in the third round of the

:24:24. > :24:32.Australian Open and US Open. He lost to Andy Murray 2015 and at the start

:24:33. > :24:36.of this year. He's going to have to come from behind today, but he has

:24:37. > :24:40.the opportunity to become the first Portuguese tennis player into the

:24:41. > :24:44.fourth round of the Grand Slam. That is quite something. A real magnitude

:24:45. > :24:55.to the sound of that. He had a rough drawer, losing to Andy Murray in the

:24:56. > :24:59.Australian Open of 2015 and 2016. Then he had a rough drawer against

:25:00. > :25:02.Novak Djokovic. There are always a lot of good players around at the

:25:03. > :25:06.business end of the slam. But as you say, history in the making possibly

:25:07. > :25:17.for this man, already the best player in Portugal. Jiri Vesely,

:25:18. > :26:40.having won the first set, breaking serve at the start of the second.

:26:41. > :27:40.Sousa might feel he is not getting a great deal of the fortune right now.

:27:41. > :28:25.That rescue from Vesely was right on the line.

:28:26. > :28:32.Well, he had time to run around that forehand, Sousa come about as soon

:28:33. > :28:37.as he did, he left the court wide open. It is a pattern of play for

:28:38. > :28:42.him. He runs on a clay court and hard court with great success. But

:28:43. > :28:48.Vesely says, not today, power, and just dispatches it to the corner. It

:28:49. > :28:53.is almost as if Vesely has been up all night studying video footage of

:28:54. > :28:54.Joao Sousa, because he seems to be a step ahead of whatever he is

:28:55. > :30:31.bringing right now. He has got to guard against a second

:30:32. > :30:42.break against his own serve, because that would be terminal as far as

:30:43. > :30:51.this set is concerned. People's Sunday? Absolutely not. Portugal

:30:52. > :30:56.Sunday right now. They are texting and tweeting. They have better

:30:57. > :31:00.things to do than watch them and struggle against the giant from the

:31:01. > :31:04.Czech Republic. I wonder if they are one of the two who paid ?40 for a

:31:05. > :31:08.ticket when they went on sale yesterday afternoon at three

:31:09. > :31:16.o'clock. Didn't they sell out in about seven and a half seconds?

:31:17. > :31:20.Centre Court, number one court. 8000 tickets on sale and 4000 ground sale

:31:21. > :31:27.passes. But the complex isn't at capacity. They didn't have the

:31:28. > :31:32.wherewithal to provide enough security people. So we are not

:31:33. > :31:36.anywhere near capacity approaching 40,000 which you might get on a full

:31:37. > :31:39.working day. But those who were not expecting the opportunity to come

:31:40. > :31:43.here today who had another planned for Sunday afternoon get the chance

:31:44. > :31:48.to take a few snapshots for the family album. It is a real treat.

:31:49. > :31:51.What a great idea to open it up the way they did. A real indulgence for

:31:52. > :31:55.people that normally wouldn't stand much chance of winning anything

:31:56. > :31:58.through the ballot but perhaps, not being up members and that sort of

:31:59. > :32:03.thing. Lovely to see plenty of fresh faces here. And if they do venture

:32:04. > :32:07.out to outside courts, there is so much freedom to move. They can have

:32:08. > :32:16.the pick of the seats on some really good matches. Here is what macro, in

:32:17. > :32:35.a very commanding position -- Vesely.

:32:36. > :32:47.Wonderful serve and sting from the big man, who has totally been in

:32:48. > :32:50.control so far. It's a feature of this from a tactical point of view

:32:51. > :32:54.that this man is playing such commanding, bullying serve and first

:32:55. > :33:00.shot tennis but Joao Sousa just can't get a return platform to build

:33:01. > :33:44.from. He's only had one break point opportunity throughout the match.

:33:45. > :33:51.It was instructive to see Joao Sousa not even looking. He's just not

:33:52. > :34:35.reading this at the moment. Not long after he did it for the

:34:36. > :35:40.last time, once again, Joao Sousa fights to stay in the second set.

:35:41. > :35:46.Well, it's a lot a friend to carry around the court, six foot six, but

:35:47. > :35:48.he did well to get up to this forehand -- a lot of friend to carry

:35:49. > :36:07.around the court. Wonderful point construction here,

:36:08. > :36:09.well engineered. Look at how he gets the ball up and down so quickly,

:36:10. > :36:42.loaded with top-spin. Jiri Vesely is the Czech number two

:36:43. > :36:47.right now behind his hero, Tomas Berdych, who is playing against

:36:48. > :36:52.Zverev. The winner of this one will play the winner of that one in the

:36:53. > :36:59.fourth round tomorrow. That is the big prize today. That plus ?132,000,

:37:00. > :37:05.which is what you get for reaching the second week here. The loser

:37:06. > :37:08.today is already guaranteed to pick up ?80,000. Should one of them dream

:37:09. > :37:15.of going all the way and being champion on Centre Court a week

:37:16. > :37:21.today, then you get ?2 million. So it is a profitable couple of weeks.

:37:22. > :37:31.Helps to pay the coach, on the right-hand side. He looks after

:37:32. > :37:36.Vesely's fitness, on the left. There is not a great deal to worry about

:37:37. > :37:37.at the moment. He is in total control of this third round contest

:37:38. > :38:00.right now. With this kind of performance,

:38:01. > :38:04.everyone was concerned about how we he would back up that win. But at

:38:05. > :38:18.the moment, he really is playing some wonderful tennis. And with

:38:19. > :38:23.that, he is one of those men that gets labelled as one of the next

:38:24. > :38:24.generation players, along with Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev,

:38:25. > :39:02.one of the new guard. Only been playing for 52 minutes,

:39:03. > :40:03.and here is Jiri Vesely, with three points for a 2-0 lead.

:40:04. > :40:10.If the seeded Sousa is to fight back into this, he is going to have to do

:40:11. > :40:16.it the long way, because Jiri Vesely has just taken the first two sets.

:40:17. > :40:20.Labour well, it is very one sided in this. Jiri Vesely very much in

:40:21. > :40:24.control. We are going to leave this match on Court Number One. If you

:40:25. > :40:29.want to continue watching, it is on the red button. Well going to take

:40:30. > :40:32.you to a doubles match on court 12, featuring the British women, Naomi

:40:33. > :40:39.Broady and Heather Watson against Alexandra Panova and Shelby Rogers.

:40:40. > :40:54.They won the first set 7-6. Brody and Watson.

:40:55. > :41:25.The line judge just running to her position to call the serve. She had

:41:26. > :42:01.forgotten to switch it during the match.

:42:02. > :42:18.Diego on the right, hidden behind the umpire Heather Watson 's coach.

:42:19. > :42:36.Good move, Watson. There is such trust between them. Diego Veronelli

:42:37. > :42:40.is a family man. He has got kids. He has committed as much as he can,

:42:41. > :42:47.persuaded to come back into Heather's corner. She missed him

:42:48. > :43:01.terribly. Could be talking about Ivan Lendl. Yes!

:43:02. > :43:09.Talking about the coaches, so many have commitments outside the tour,

:43:10. > :43:13.so it is a huge thing for them to commit 20, 25 weeks to be with

:43:14. > :43:21.someone on the road when they all have families and other interests.

:43:22. > :43:25.Two years in a row at Wimbledon here. He has had some emotional work

:43:26. > :43:33.to deal with as well. Serena last year. Annika Beck this. Aluko back

:43:34. > :43:39.was of course beaten by Serena today, as we mentioned earlier --

:43:40. > :43:40.Annika Beck was of course beaten. The British pair are keeping their

:43:41. > :44:30.nose ahead. This is just their 12th match

:44:31. > :44:36.together. The opposition have hardly played with each other as well. They

:44:37. > :44:39.first played in Jersey, where of course, Heather Watson was born and

:44:40. > :44:53.bred. That was seven years ago. This is a must win point. For

:44:54. > :45:42.Rogers. Oh, too much. Heather is going to

:45:43. > :45:47.challenge this. That is a long way out. Just a little bit too much.

:45:48. > :45:50.Greylock from Naomi Broady, but we were both urging her to go forwards

:45:51. > :46:04.-- great lob. It didn't work. You can reach out and touch the

:46:05. > :46:23.tension out there right now. That again is the transition shot,

:46:24. > :46:29.it was a shock to go to the net with. It was not looking for the

:46:30. > :46:33.outright winner because she did not fully commit. It should have been a

:46:34. > :46:37.slice approach, reasonably firmly. Give yourself time to set at the

:46:38. > :47:06.net. She hit Heather. That is not the

:47:07. > :47:16.ideal thing to do unless you want to really upset your partner.

:47:17. > :47:59.Three points in a row. If they hold these, we are into a third set.

:48:00. > :48:09.That was tense, that point, wasn't it? That was really tense. A couple

:48:10. > :48:11.of moments where she did not move her feet. That one and this next

:48:12. > :48:33.volley was well played. That is the right idea. Set point.

:48:34. > :50:42.Panova and Rogers. The battle of the crosscourt

:50:43. > :51:12.forehand won by Heather Watson. From set point to match point.

:51:13. > :51:24.It has been corrected. Ever made the blade. They are challenging, anyway.

:51:25. > :51:28.-- Heather Watson made the play. It is all happening. First serve again.

:51:29. > :51:57.Still match point. What a chance, what a chance. She

:51:58. > :52:02.read it. Just did not move forward. It was not an easy volley, but it

:52:03. > :52:04.was a volley she should have made. Look how she moved to the right. She

:52:05. > :52:38.did not come towards the ball. She really drove through the ball

:52:39. > :52:39.well. Indecision with the Brits, but it is another set point. Panova to

:52:40. > :53:08.return. That is a courageous shot from Naomi

:53:09. > :53:14.Broady. She does not like to hit that one. The slice approach. That

:53:15. > :53:19.is maybe the second she has hit in the whole match. She did not play

:53:20. > :53:20.the shot she wanted to play, she played the shot she knew she had to

:53:21. > :53:33.play. The sign of a good player at this

:53:34. > :53:39.stage of the match. Brilliant. It sets up a second match point.

:53:40. > :54:31.Even Judy is looking a little nervous.

:54:32. > :54:38.Broady did not trust herself to go for it and Panova did. Once again,

:54:39. > :54:44.that corner of the court that Heather Watson is hitting into, she

:54:45. > :54:53.is hitting into a hurricane from the right-hand corner. Just not enough

:54:54. > :54:55.to get it away. Two set points for this team. Two match point for the

:54:56. > :55:33.Brits. Oh, my goodness me. We have seen

:55:34. > :55:37.Broady play a lot of good lock-macros but that was not one of

:55:38. > :55:41.them. It was difficult. It was right in front of Rogers. A big discussion

:55:42. > :55:59.here. I think this is Watson to serve. And

:56:00. > :56:03.Broady is serving. It is Watson. She had the slide out wide. It is

:56:04. > :56:13.definitely Watson to serve. It is worth a try! The umpire was on the

:56:14. > :56:20.case. And so were we. Quite right. Two hours, the match.

:56:21. > :56:41.Brilliant! What a great return that was of a first serve. The serve was

:56:42. > :56:47.great. The return was better! A little bit fortunate, but Panova

:56:48. > :57:38.will take it. That will do. Fourth time lucky.

:57:39. > :57:46.Just their 12th match together as a team. They get a standing ovation.

:57:47. > :57:54.SUE BARKER: What a thrilling match. Two tie-break sets. So entertaining

:57:55. > :57:59.and wonderful for the fans who stayed loyal to that match. Judy

:58:00. > :58:06.Murray is there, she will be delighted. She has probably stayed

:58:07. > :58:13.on court 12 because her eldest son Jamie Murray is there. With his

:58:14. > :58:15.partner they are taking on the Argentine pair. Early stages of this

:58:16. > :58:21.match. We can join our commentary team for

:58:22. > :58:37.this one. Jamie Murray on court in the

:58:38. > :58:52.sunshine with his partner Bruno Soares.

:58:53. > :59:04.On paper they are firm favourites to win. Number three seeds. Jamie

:59:05. > :59:09.Murray, number three in the world, and Bruno Soares number nine. The

:59:10. > :59:14.Argentine is better known as singles players but singles rankings count

:59:15. > :59:27.for more than doubles rankings in the entry system for this event. The

:59:28. > :59:28.same as on the ATP Tour. These two like a good conversation. Delbonis

:59:29. > :59:46.at the net. Schwartzman serving. Struggling with that first serve.

:59:47. > :59:52.And the second. Three break points early in this. It

:59:53. > :59:57.is a best-of-3 contest. Because of the weather this week they have

:59:58. > :00:08.shortened it from best-of-5 to best-of-3.

:00:09. > :00:24.That was loose from Soares. 82 mph second serve from Schwartzman. A

:00:25. > :00:26.little bit of leeway. Two more break points. You have to make him play

:00:27. > :00:52.this one, though. In doubles, of course, the areas you

:00:53. > :00:53.have to hit into our smaller. You have got used to the tramlines, of

:00:54. > :01:04.course. That is brilliant. Beautifully

:01:05. > :01:16.anticipated. He waited and waited and then he pounced. Judy has seen

:01:17. > :01:21.Jamie Murray make that move time and again. He is one of the best players

:01:22. > :01:26.in the world at judging the timing so perfectly to make that move. To

:01:27. > :01:37.poach at the net. A nice early break.

:01:38. > :02:17.It is easy when you know how. When you have the wind in your sails.

:02:18. > :02:47.A big collective groan from this court 12 crowd.

:02:48. > :02:55.Oh, that is a fabulous touch. He may not have meant it. Bruno Soares

:02:56. > :03:02.holding up his hands an apology, but take nothing away from the quick

:03:03. > :03:11.hands of the Brazilian. It was a great volley from Murray before

:03:12. > :03:12.that. The ball was hammered at Soares. You say that is just good

:03:13. > :03:38.hands. So quick. It is good. Just had enough tip on

:03:39. > :03:43.it. -- dip. You might have heard Jamie Murray complementing

:03:44. > :04:13.Schwartzman on that. Sometimes you have to say, yes, too good.

:04:14. > :04:25.Instinct, isn't it, at the net? And hour upon hour of practice.

:04:26. > :04:38.Soares one of the most consistent doubles performers on the tour.

:04:39. > :05:04.Soares has got 22 doubles titles to his name. And adding water that

:05:05. > :05:10.number is a pretty safe bet if these two stay together. Jamie Murray, 15

:05:11. > :05:15.doubles titles. Crucially, as we have mentioned, the first Grand Slam

:05:16. > :05:25.title in the Men's Doubles in the Australian Open to kick-start their

:05:26. > :05:34.year and their partnership. Jamie spent a number of years with John

:05:35. > :05:47.Peers. Bruno Soares with Peya, of Austria. They started early and --

:05:48. > :05:51.started brilliantly in Melbourne. Jamie Murray world number one in

:05:52. > :05:57.April. Soares chasing him down. Number three seeds at Embleton.

:05:58. > :06:09.Beautiful to see court 12 fills to the rafters. On People's Sunday at

:06:10. > :06:21.Wimbledon. It is important for Delbonis to hold serve and keep his

:06:22. > :06:23.side in the sector. I wonder how he got this little quirk on the server.

:06:24. > :06:47.Nothing wrong with it. -- serve. Just when you think he has stopped

:06:48. > :07:11.for some reason, maybe the sun and wind, he keeps going.

:07:12. > :07:17.That was well left from Delbonis. It is tough to see them sometimes, to

:07:18. > :07:25.judge how far the ball will travel when you are close to the baseline

:07:26. > :07:46.yourself. He is struggling to really put the ball away. Schwartzman.

:07:47. > :07:55.The highest part of the net. Just a little bit harder for those kinds of

:07:56. > :08:01.shots. It is a great forehand from Delbonis. Look at that. Huge amount

:08:02. > :08:05.of top-spin to make sure the ball gets down onto the shoelaces of

:08:06. > :08:35.Murray. This was a late call. Was it the

:08:36. > :09:27.right one? No. You can hear the communication

:09:28. > :09:59.between these two. They work off each other exquisitely.

:10:00. > :10:14.Good serving. Very strong from Delbonis. Now the difficult part.

:10:15. > :10:39.Breaking the serve of either Soares or Murray.

:10:40. > :10:44.Even when they look as if they are struggling, they managed to pull it

:10:45. > :11:28.back almost immediately. Somebody is not happy with what they

:11:29. > :11:34.are seeing, in the crowd! It has actually been a great family day.

:11:35. > :11:38.People's Sunday, it has been dubbed. The fourth time we have had play on

:11:39. > :11:53.the middle Sunday in the history of Wimbledon.

:11:54. > :12:10.She was here for Heather Watson and Naomi Broady earlier, for their

:12:11. > :12:15.Ladies' Doubles match. I makes amends.

:12:16. > :12:19.-- he makes amends. They are cruising. 5-2 they lead, 25 minutes

:12:20. > :12:32.gone. Plain sailing so far for these two,

:12:33. > :12:36.as you would expect. On paper, they should be comfortable winners

:12:37. > :12:42.against a pair who just do not have the doubles pedigree. And the best

:12:43. > :12:55.doubles pairs in the world trained so hard and they work on different

:12:56. > :12:58.formations, different tactics. They spend hours having balls pumped at

:12:59. > :13:09.them so they can improve their reaction at the net. Different

:13:10. > :13:12.serves types of return. Singles players like Delbonis and

:13:13. > :13:16.Schwartzman do not have that time to devote that attention to detail.

:13:17. > :13:26.Court 12 at the bottom of the picture with Court Number Two at the

:13:27. > :13:28.right. Three on the left-hand side. Bathed in sunshine. We got there in

:13:29. > :13:44.the end. Long may it continue. How would Jamie Murray like to win

:13:45. > :14:04.the Men's Doubles here at Wimbledon. He is a Mixed Doubles Wimbledon

:14:05. > :14:18.champion, back in 2007. Was it that long ago? He was 21 years of age

:14:19. > :14:26.when he won that with Jankovic. His hair was longer if I remember right.

:14:27. > :14:41.He still is good, fit as a fiddle. And improving all the time, as well.

:14:42. > :15:06.The first game to love. That was a better serve from Schwartzman. There

:15:07. > :15:14.is dad. Looking relatively happy. As should the whole of Team Murray.

:15:15. > :15:27.Looking for his son to close this first set. Very proud parents.

:15:28. > :15:31.Willie and Judy. Jamie Murray has always conducted himself well. He is

:15:32. > :15:39.a positive ambassador for British tennis.

:15:40. > :16:09.You could hear the snap in that smash from Bruno Soares. They don't

:16:10. > :16:16.mess around when they have the chance to put the ball away. Ball,

:16:17. > :16:24.please, says the umpire. In your own time! A throw from behind the fence.

:16:25. > :16:52.Decent catch from the ball boy too. Wicked top-spin on that second serve

:16:53. > :17:24.from Murray. The ball reared up to the side of Delbonis.

:17:25. > :17:34.If you want to put pressure on players, stick it right down by

:17:35. > :17:38.their bootlaces. It is extremely difficult to bring the ball back up.

:17:39. > :17:42.If you do get the ball back on the other side of the court, it have to

:17:43. > :17:59.go up to have a much better chance of the next shot being easier.

:18:00. > :18:13.They sailed through the first set in just over half an hour.

:18:14. > :18:24.Pretty straightforward for the number three seeds. Judy will be

:18:25. > :18:27.happy enough with Jamie's performance, as Federico Delbonis

:18:28. > :18:33.decides to take a comfort break, gather his thoughts. His partner,

:18:34. > :18:39.Diego Schwartzman, has stayed put. One thing I love about bubbles at

:18:40. > :18:44.Wimbledon is that it is a huge opportunity for youngsters and

:18:45. > :18:50.everybody to see what makes fantastic double skills, soft hand

:18:51. > :18:55.skills at the net. I remember watching a volleying drill that

:18:56. > :19:02.Jamie was doing. He gave three tips to be a brilliant volley at the net.

:19:03. > :19:07.He said one was, less is more. Forget the ugly backswing, keep it

:19:08. > :19:15.short and sharp. Racket high was number two, don't let it drop. And

:19:16. > :19:23.three was one of the most infamous lines you will hear anyone tell you

:19:24. > :19:31.in all sports. Watch the ball. Yeah, that is where we start. It's the

:19:32. > :19:38.same at every level. It is a glorious scene at the top of your

:19:39. > :19:43.picture as you move across from Centre Court. You may see a couple

:19:44. > :19:50.of golf holes. That is Wimbledon Park golf course. Wimbledon Park

:19:51. > :20:00.itself is a larger area. It has a public park and a lovely boating

:20:01. > :20:04.lake. Caught in a bid to is in the top right. And court 12 is where we

:20:05. > :20:14.are for this Men's Doubles match, to the side of it. It has one large

:20:15. > :20:26.bank of seating. I can't see many empty seats in it at the moment.

:20:27. > :20:30.Enter stage left. If you are wondering what happens when they go

:20:31. > :20:34.to the loo, what the rules are, you can pretty much take comfort break

:20:35. > :20:40.whenever you like. It would be a bit harsh to say no! But an official has

:20:41. > :20:49.to accompany every player when they do go to the loo. It is part of the

:20:50. > :20:52.doping regulations. Nothing untoward. Obviously, you are not

:20:53. > :20:59.allowed to meet up with your coach and get any coaching. That just shot

:21:00. > :21:00.your theory down in flames! I don't think that was coaching, that was

:21:01. > :21:23.ribbing. It's all right, no one saw. Federico

:21:24. > :21:29.Delbonis will get us under way in this second set. There to say they

:21:30. > :22:56.have got work to do. -- it is fair to say they have work to do.

:22:57. > :23:02.Well played from Schwartzman at the net. Good, solid forehand volley,

:23:03. > :23:06.keeping it deep, not giving Jamie Murray much opportunity to hit it

:23:07. > :23:10.past him and then crucially, continue his movement across the net

:23:11. > :23:35.on the forehand side to poach and put it away nicely.

:23:36. > :23:43.Good, clean game to start this second set. Delbonis has served

:23:44. > :23:54.well, backed up well by Schwartzman at the net. He does have an

:23:55. > :23:58.extraordinary action, doesn't he? Yeah, I am sure there are a fair few

:23:59. > :24:03.people watching this that have seen their fair share of old styles

:24:04. > :24:08.actions down the park at their local club. The key is, whatever works for

:24:09. > :24:23.you. If you look at Jamie's served here,

:24:24. > :24:30.he takes a step forward with his right leg, then brings his left foot

:24:31. > :24:37.to join it. Everyone has got a slightly different way of going

:24:38. > :24:43.about it. But the same as any other tennis shop in the game, it's what

:24:44. > :24:48.happens before contact, on contact and just after. If you get that bit

:24:49. > :25:07.right, then you can vary the technique around it.

:25:08. > :26:41.Mixing it up nicely on the serve, Jamie Murray.

:26:42. > :26:47.Jamie Murray you waited so beautifully there. Sometimes, when

:26:48. > :26:52.you have too much time, it brings a mistake. But he was unbelievably

:26:53. > :27:02.patient in his decision-making. Everything is out in front of him.

:27:03. > :27:05.He takes that volley, whether it is on the forehand or backhand side,

:27:06. > :27:15.well out in front of him with a firm wrist.

:27:16. > :27:25.You can do it with one racket, but if you fancy two... It's much better

:27:26. > :27:32.if you both go for it than neither of you. No damage done. In fact, the

:27:33. > :27:51.opposite. He's got it. A puff of white chalk

:27:52. > :28:25.off the line. Jamie Murray, challenging this call

:28:26. > :29:17.on the baseline. It does look funny, how they talk

:29:18. > :29:32.into the balls, doesn't it? Just in case somebody can lip read.

:29:33. > :29:47.Just the one point dropped. SUE BARKER: and we will rejoin this

:29:48. > :29:54.match in a moment. Let's round up the news of the day. The remaining

:29:55. > :29:59.two Men's Singles matches are completed. Jiri Vesely of the Czech

:30:00. > :30:06.Republic has defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal. He has yet to drop a set

:30:07. > :30:12.at these championships. So Jiri Vesely is one of the top juniors a

:30:13. > :30:21.few years ago and is going well at these championships. So he goes

:30:22. > :30:26.through, and there he will face fellow Czech Tomas Berdych, because

:30:27. > :30:30.he was on Centre Court, defeating the 19-year-old Alexander Zverev. We

:30:31. > :30:36.will certainly hear a lot more from that young man, but for the moment,

:30:37. > :30:40.Tomas Berdych goes through in four sets. Runner-up in 2010 and now

:30:41. > :30:45.through to the fourth round again. What a treat they have had on Centre

:30:46. > :30:55.Court today. So, back we go to Court One.

:30:56. > :31:08.Bruno Soares serving, Jamie Murray with the put away. It is a very

:31:09. > :31:15.effective serve, especially that first serve when it goes in. He is

:31:16. > :31:25.not the tallest of players, standing at 511, -- at five foot 11. And as

:31:26. > :31:32.we saw there, if it is skidding through and staying low, he

:31:33. > :31:37.generally -- the return has to play the ball upwards more. And that

:31:38. > :31:48.plays into the hands of the pair who are showing the net. -- rushing the

:31:49. > :31:57.net. We are seeing through these games in the second set. UMPIRE:

:31:58. > :32:16.give me one ball boy, please. Both the Argentinians had tough

:32:17. > :32:22.first-round defeats in the singles. Delbonis, the toll of the two, lost

:32:23. > :32:26.in five sets to Fabio Fognini -- the taller of the two. It was also a

:32:27. > :32:39.five set defeat for Diego Schwartzman.

:32:40. > :32:46.Good anticipation once again. You could see his movement before the

:32:47. > :32:50.ball was even hit. You have got to be brave to do this, and really back

:32:51. > :33:26.your speed and skills. It is just the frustration, isn't

:33:27. > :33:36.it? Soares looks so confident. He is like a brick wall. Everything is

:33:37. > :33:56.coming back. A half chance here for Murray and Soares.

:33:57. > :34:17.One for the wicketkeeper, that one. Delbonis has a very good delivery.

:34:18. > :34:26.Just too good. That is a good comeback. Two big first serves, and

:34:27. > :34:32.that is what you want from your net player. When you do get a good serve

:34:33. > :34:36.in, you want your net player to punish any week return. That is

:34:37. > :34:49.exactly what Schwartzman did. He was all over the net. Another formation,

:34:50. > :34:53.something different. This is good. But Murray was equal to it. He

:34:54. > :35:03.wasn't going to be fooled, he knew exactly where he wanted to go on

:35:04. > :35:09.this forehand. They brokered a similar time in the first set. That

:35:10. > :35:20.shot was all about how he steered it. Just breaking the 22nd rule

:35:21. > :35:34.there, Federico Delbonis. 20 seconds between points. They want this match

:35:35. > :35:45.won, and they are on top. They have the break in this second set. Soares

:35:46. > :35:53.was sitting down in double quick time after that flashing backhand

:35:54. > :36:01.down the line. Just beautiful timing from the Brazilian. Wasn't as wide

:36:02. > :36:05.as Delbonis had hoped. But straight out of the middle. You don't have to

:36:06. > :36:11.have a big swing. If you can use the pace of the server, find the sweet

:36:12. > :36:21.spot, they can be every bit as powerful. He is waiting for Jamie to

:36:22. > :36:25.join him to high-5. They are quick out of their seats. Time hasn't been

:36:26. > :36:32.called by the umpire. They want to get on with this. In the Nick

:36:33. > :36:38.Kyrgios and Dustin Brown match earlier, they gave a whole new

:36:39. > :36:44.meaning to speed. I think we had one service game of Nick Kyrgios' that

:36:45. > :36:56.lasted 39 seconds. More talking into balls. But now Soares knows where

:36:57. > :37:02.their service going. -- where there is serve is going.

:37:03. > :37:12.Beautiful rhythm on that Murray serve. Judy found out a few things

:37:13. > :37:24.about with a couple of years ago on the dance floor. -- a few things

:37:25. > :37:33.about rhythm. I believe she came ninth on Strictly Come Dancing.

:37:34. > :37:44.There was a bloke called Dan. Ever heard of him? There are loads of

:37:45. > :37:53.Dans. A bit of luck. What he did well was a firm on that volley. If

:37:54. > :38:06.he had been week with his wrist, this would not have had enough

:38:07. > :38:15.momentum to go over. A rare mistake. You can't be perfect all the time.

:38:16. > :38:18.He will not need to be told. What do you think he is saying? Not as big a

:38:19. > :38:49.backswing next time, Bruno? They consolidate the break. I

:38:50. > :38:52.would be interested to see what formations these two Tech now on the

:38:53. > :38:58.Schwartzman serve, as Delbonis makes his way to the net. Looks as though

:38:59. > :39:36.they are going to keep its traditional for the first point.

:39:37. > :39:52.I like this from these two. They are giving a different look to the

:39:53. > :39:59.returners, different formation every time what are they going to offer up

:40:00. > :40:48.this time? Schwartzman goes a little bit wider. Maybe a greater angle.

:40:49. > :41:04.SUE BARKER: so, we are having to leave here on BBC Two. If you want

:41:05. > :41:09.to continue watching, it is on the red button. Before we go, we will

:41:10. > :41:12.round up the big stories of the day am starting on Centre Court with the

:41:13. > :41:20.world number one, Serena Williams. She was in impressive form. 6-3, 6-0

:41:21. > :41:25.against Annika Beck. She was taken for precepts in her last round, but

:41:26. > :41:29.happy with her performance. Like all great champions, they get better as

:41:30. > :41:33.the tournament progresses. She will have a busy day tomorrow, because

:41:34. > :41:43.she will be back to face Svetlana Kuznetsova. Such an entertaining

:41:44. > :41:51.match on number one court. Nick Kyrgios, the 15th seed, putting out

:41:52. > :41:56.the big server Feliciano Lopez Lopez. Kyrgios is a controversial

:41:57. > :42:00.figure, but always watchable. And he is one of those that John McEnroe

:42:01. > :42:03.tipped to maybe win this championship one day. He put out

:42:04. > :42:06.Lopez today and may have booked himself ablaze on Centre Court

:42:07. > :42:15.because in the next round, he takes on Andy Murray. That is tomorrow,

:42:16. > :42:19.Kyrgios and Murray. The big story of the day is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The

:42:20. > :42:25.number 12 seed, an absolute marathon on Court Number Two against John

:42:26. > :42:30.Isner. He came through 19-17, a match that took four hours and 25

:42:31. > :42:41.minutes. He goes to the top of the French list of most Grand Slam wins

:42:42. > :42:47.with 103. There are only 4000 ground passes, and those who were courtside

:42:48. > :42:49.thoroughly enjoyed him. One of the sport's great athletes and

:42:50. > :42:55.entertainers. So Jo-Wilfried Tsonga if through, and he will face Richard

:42:56. > :42:58.Gasquet tomorrow, and all French encounter in the fourth round. That

:42:59. > :43:03.is it. We have to say goodbye on BBC Two. Tomorrow we have a very busy

:43:04. > :43:08.Monday. All fourth-round matches will be in action. It is always my

:43:09. > :43:12.favourite day of the championship. I hope the 22,000 people who came here

:43:13. > :43:15.with their tickets online had a special day. We will leave you with

:43:16. > :43:22.the story of People's Sunday. Bye-bye.

:43:23. > :43:34.Sunday, Sunday. People's Sunday! A very special day

:43:35. > :43:47.here at Wimbledon. It has only happened four times. Centre Court on

:43:48. > :43:53.people's Sunday. Do you think we should get the wave going?

:43:54. > :44:06.# Please give me a Sunday kind of love. Come on!
