:00:53. > :01:30.Welcome to the second Wednesday here at Wimbledon, men's quarterfinals

:01:31. > :01:33.day, huge crowds here, a buzz of excitement and anticipation as we

:01:34. > :01:37.enter the closing stages of the Championships.

:01:38. > :01:42.Eight men remaining, by the end of this evening there will be only for.

:01:43. > :01:45.Good afternoon, starting to get serious, the players know they are

:01:46. > :01:50.three wins away from lifting the most coveted trophy in tennis.

:01:51. > :01:54.Budgie Federer has done it seven times, Andy Murray who won at three

:01:55. > :01:57.years ago is the favourite, the highest ranked player left in the

:01:58. > :02:03.draw. Let's look at the eight players on court today. First up, a

:02:04. > :02:11.familiar figure, Roger Federer, a man looking to reaches 11 semifinal

:02:12. > :02:15.here today, in his ultimate bids for an eighth title. Marin Cilic his

:02:16. > :02:24.opponent, the big serving Croat knows what it takes to beat him and

:02:25. > :02:28.when a Grand Slam. Tomas Berdych loves the grass, he made the final

:02:29. > :02:35.in 2010, he has the game to trouble anyone. Today he faces little-known

:02:36. > :02:39.Frenchman Lucas Pouille, the 22-year-old had never won a match

:02:40. > :02:48.here until this year but in 2016 he has proved to be a danger man.

:02:49. > :02:52.Slamming Sam Querrey has been in the form of his life, the big American

:02:53. > :02:58.dumping out Novak Djokovic and has the armoury to go all the way. He

:02:59. > :03:01.plays Milos Raonic, the big serving Canadian who came back from two sets

:03:02. > :03:09.down in his fourth-round match proving he is tough as well as

:03:10. > :03:13.talented. And the fourth and final match sees popular French man

:03:14. > :03:19.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, twice a semifinalist here and a man who has

:03:20. > :03:27.a big grass court game. He will take on Britain's Andy Murray. The 2013

:03:28. > :03:34.champion is looking to reach the last four the seventh time, in great

:03:35. > :03:36.form, yet to drop a set. Murray will have the Centre Court crowd on his

:03:37. > :03:44.side and he will be a tough opponent. So on Centre Court, we are

:03:45. > :03:50.heading there in a moment, Federer against Cilic and then Tsonga takes

:03:51. > :03:53.on Murray. And over on Court Number One, Sam Querrey against Milos

:03:54. > :03:58.Raonic, then Tomas Berdych against Lucas Pouille. We will raise to

:03:59. > :04:04.Centre Court, a first set tie-break, Roger Federer in trouble, Cilic is

:04:05. > :04:41.5-1 up in this tie-break. Let's join the commentary team.

:04:42. > :04:47.COMMENTATOR: just enough, on that service just out wide on the ad

:04:48. > :05:24.caught... APPLAUSE

:05:25. > :05:28.The backhand slice defence. Flirted with the top of the net but

:05:29. > :05:49.he survives. One of the four set points.

:05:50. > :06:08.Cilic just checking with the umpire whether that first serve was in.

:06:09. > :06:14.UMPIRE: Mr Federer challenging the ball on the right far side, the ball

:06:15. > :06:38.was called out. Second serve... What a wonderful tie-breaker that

:06:39. > :06:50.was from Cilic. He grabs the opening set 7-6.

:06:51. > :06:57.Strong, positive play and great serving. The quality of the returns

:06:58. > :07:04.is what makes this man actually as dangerous as anyone out there. Very

:07:05. > :07:06.much so, the first 12 games were nip and tuck, Federer had the

:07:07. > :07:11.opportunities but in the tie-break it was Cilic you found the extra

:07:12. > :07:14.gear, stepped up, made very few unforced errors, dominated

:07:15. > :07:20.proceedings to get the first set under his belt. This is where

:07:21. > :07:25.Federer's experience will benefit him, he played fine, his opponent

:07:26. > :07:28.played better, he will have to try and regain momentum in the early

:07:29. > :07:37.part of the second set. Federer had the chances in the middle of the

:07:38. > :07:41.set, 15-40 on Cilic's serve. The story of the set, clean returning,

:07:42. > :07:49.106 miles an hour forehand from Cilic! He is a guy who if he gets

:07:50. > :07:55.into a good headspace can beat anyone, we have seen that before.

:07:56. > :08:01.From my point of view, Federer will have to hope he sees a little bit of

:08:02. > :08:06.a dip, be steady, get a break of serve.

:08:07. > :08:12.Looking at those stats, some impressive serving, Cilic only

:08:13. > :08:19.losing a point behind his first serve, a great platform to be

:08:20. > :08:22.aggressive. And a very good quality match. 29 winners, 11 unforced

:08:23. > :10:21.errors between them. He is so tall, has long arms, landed

:10:22. > :10:40.a strong backhand on a precise serve, just missed it, Cilic.

:10:41. > :10:57.It was really hard to see this form coming from Marin Cilic if you look

:10:58. > :11:03.at what his season has been, it started rather badly, the third

:11:04. > :11:05.round of the Australian Open, losing to Roberto Bautista Agut, got

:11:06. > :11:08.injured before the clay-court season with a knee injury, missed all the

:11:09. > :11:17.big tournament is leading into Roland Garros and lost to a player

:11:18. > :11:25.ranked 166. Yes, you have never heard of him, join the club. Speak

:11:26. > :11:30.for yourself! I do! I never presume to speak for you, Tim! Especially

:11:31. > :11:52.when it is about... Who? Lost in the first round in Stuttgart

:11:53. > :12:00.to Radek Stepanek. But at Queen's Club, that really turned it.

:12:01. > :12:40.Cilic made the semis at Queen's before Andy Murray two came out,

:12:41. > :12:44.Federer was the one who saw it coming because of that practice

:12:45. > :12:52.session he had in the off week between Queen's and Wimbledon. He

:12:53. > :12:58.experienced Cilic's good form on the grass. That is one of the huge

:12:59. > :13:00.advantages for guys like Cilic to have someone like Goran Ivanisevic

:13:01. > :13:05.in the box because they understand that doesn't take much for that form

:13:06. > :13:25.to be rediscovered when you are as good as him.

:13:26. > :13:35.Even NICE a pitch's form wasn't necessarily good coming into the

:13:36. > :13:37.Championships, was at... Tim? Ranked 125 in the world and needing a

:13:38. > :15:15.wildcard... Probably not! -- Goran Some magic and he needed it! Not an

:15:16. > :15:19.easy shot to change direction from the back of the court. On a grass

:15:20. > :15:24.court with a one-handed backhand. That had to be injured perfect. --

:15:25. > :15:36.inch perfect. It has been called out. UMPIRE: Mr

:15:37. > :15:37.Federer challenging the ball on the right-hand side... Ball was called

:15:38. > :15:55.out... 30-30. Federer wins the point

:15:56. > :16:02.because the call was made but it was made after Cilic had hit the return.

:16:03. > :16:21.The call from the line judge had no impact on Cilic's shot.

:16:22. > :16:28.Not often you see Federer rushed. Cilic doing a very good job of

:16:29. > :16:58.getting on top of the second serve and really firing that return back.

:16:59. > :17:04.The opening holder for Federer at the start of this set was difficult

:17:05. > :17:10.but the next one ends with him dropping his serve. You see when

:17:11. > :17:15.they are getting into those exchanges, Federer's all is dropping

:17:16. > :17:19.short, in the middle of the court, Cilic able to get on the front foot

:17:20. > :17:23.and driving the ball hard into Federer's backhand. Just having

:17:24. > :17:29.those backhand exchanges, that is where Cilic is leading the

:17:30. > :17:34.favourite. Huge gap in speed, they are matching each other on the

:17:35. > :17:38.forehand side, speed wise, on the backhand wing there is a gulf

:17:39. > :17:42.between them, Federer is not really using the slice as I thought he

:17:43. > :17:47.might to try and change that, he is trying to go toe to toe with Cilic

:17:48. > :17:52.and that has not been a winning strategy for him in these rallies.

:17:53. > :17:56.Small margins. Federer was not able to deliver on his break points in

:17:57. > :18:02.the first set, Cilic steals one early.

:18:03. > :18:09.I think the next 15 minutes will be interesting. You feel, coming into

:18:10. > :18:14.this match, Cilic didn't have so much to lose, Federer was the

:18:15. > :18:15.favourite but now... Cilic up a set and a break, he certainly has

:18:16. > :18:30.something to lose. That serve of his cancan the nerves,

:18:31. > :18:33.simplify things. And he was hitting the ball very well coming into this

:18:34. > :19:32.contest, it was never going to be easy and so it is proving to be.

:19:33. > :19:44.Whoops... He had been serving so well for the first 55 minutes of the

:19:45. > :19:49.match, some tension in his arm. Interesting, he has been getting so

:19:50. > :19:56.much mileage out of his first serve, heading now around 50%, 10% less

:19:57. > :19:57.than he has been doing throughout the tournament, relatively

:19:58. > :20:16.unchallenged. It wasn't easy to smash into the

:20:17. > :20:22.sunshine for Cilic. That first serve was only 125, you want to get that

:20:23. > :20:36.in, not face a second, but it could be the sunshine.

:20:37. > :20:47.More challenge for a right-handed player to look up. Nice challenge.

:20:48. > :20:55.His best was 130, just wants to show you what he has got in the tank!

:20:56. > :21:01.Since I watched and served out against Federer in the semifinal,

:21:02. > :21:07.you wonder whether the nerves ever get to this man, three aces and an

:21:08. > :21:16.unreturnable, thank you very much, straight through to the final.

:21:17. > :21:27.UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is challenging the call on the right nearside, the ball

:21:28. > :21:37.was called out. Amazing what a scoreboard can do. When he gets the

:21:38. > :21:57.break, a different player. He is questioning himself.

:21:58. > :22:12.Querrey gender pressure. -- carriage under pressure. Good second serve

:22:13. > :22:15.from Cilic but Federer will be disappointed, had the return on his

:22:16. > :22:20.ragged, rolled it pretty tamely into the net.

:22:21. > :22:26.When you know you are going to get so many opportunities, you really

:22:27. > :23:01.have to take their chances. Pressure at both ends of the court

:23:02. > :23:05.in that situation. From Roger's perspective, he is desperate to get

:23:06. > :23:13.the break back. And it impacted him as well. He was very tight on those

:23:14. > :23:31.to add court returns. He likes to show everyone he is human.

:23:32. > :23:39.That is a get out of jail free card for Cilic, in this game, all the

:23:40. > :23:47.pressure lifted high holding serve, good chance for him to steal another

:23:48. > :23:48.break. He will feel a lot freer in this game, I am sure he didn't in

:23:49. > :24:20.that last one. UMPIRE: Mr Cilic challenging the

:24:21. > :24:43.call on the left service line, the ball was called in...

:24:44. > :24:46.If you can't get the ball back in play... Some good serving from

:24:47. > :24:57.Federer. How good was that volley from

:24:58. > :25:12.Federer? Especially when you do it so

:25:13. > :25:18.sparingly, such a rhythmic move, their serve and volley. Just the

:25:19. > :25:25.fourth time he has done it. Fantastic movement with the big

:25:26. > :25:31.step. We talk a lot in tennis about the footwork, is that something that

:25:32. > :25:37.you get taught how to move to the volley or is it something you do so

:25:38. > :25:40.many times it becomes natural? It's a combination, obviously there is

:25:41. > :25:45.the movement and footwork, getting in the right position Bob was also

:25:46. > :25:48.understanding the angles and it's like a football goalkeeper, you

:25:49. > :25:53.cannot get beaten at the near post, you don't want to give eaten by the

:25:54. > :25:58.passed down the line so it's understanding where you flow at the

:25:59. > :26:02.net and it something Federer does a lot better. Two or three years ago

:26:03. > :26:06.he didn't understand, it was almost as if he was covering the middle,

:26:07. > :26:10.the passing shot would not often go down the middle but now he moves

:26:11. > :26:15.better, understands the angles, I think it is a tactic he has to use

:26:16. > :26:19.more today. From the back of the court, Cilic has been aggressive,

:26:20. > :26:24.Federer on the back but, Federer has to look to get to the net more

:26:25. > :26:26.often, use the serve and volley to make Cilic think, it may give him a

:26:27. > :26:50.chance to get back into the match. Doesn't matter where you are, when

:26:51. > :26:56.the serve is that accurate... 118, out wide. That is quick.

:26:57. > :27:04.We have seen Federer be disruptive with his return of serve position,

:27:05. > :27:09.in the last year, he used a sneak attack, have volume some of them to

:27:10. > :27:15.rattle his opponent. Not doing anything right now, trying to rattle

:27:16. > :27:20.Cilic on his serve and I think he would be wise to stand more in the

:27:21. > :27:29.doubles Ali, to his right, forcing Cilic to serve to the T. Do

:27:30. > :27:33.something to get him out. Give him a different look, yes, if he was

:27:34. > :27:39.standing out there, Cilic would look on the court and say Federer is

:27:40. > :27:58.standing somewhere different. Clockwork.

:27:59. > :28:05.Serving like this, it is almost a must win game for Federer. The Cilic

:28:06. > :28:08.first serve percentage has lifted in that set, the last game did not hurt

:28:09. > :28:44.him. He is so wide. Cilic, serve and

:28:45. > :28:49.volley, I would probably want to see Federer all of the body and handcuff

:28:50. > :29:16.him. If you are going to try and use that tactic, you have to jam him.

:29:17. > :29:25.He has got to hold serve but the biggest issue for Federer... Federer

:29:26. > :29:38.will be keeping his fingers crossed that the level comes down.

:29:39. > :29:50.The question is how many war games is he going to last? Cilic gave him

:29:51. > :29:54.some chances, Federer had a point, he could not convert, those are the

:29:55. > :30:00.ones you have to grab, you may not see another one the rest of the day.

:30:01. > :30:58.You see how easy it is? What a shot into the absolute apex

:30:59. > :31:56.of the court from Raonic. Who is this guy!?

:31:57. > :32:18.I feel, watching Cilic if he stands out, makes it obvious, do something

:32:19. > :32:27.under the radar to throw him out. Change of position changes the

:32:28. > :32:37.match. Down a set, down a break, ten feet further back, changed the

:32:38. > :32:46.outlook for Andre. I would have lost without that move. For sure. Roger,

:32:47. > :32:59.for all his greatness, can be stubborn. Resist change. But back

:33:00. > :33:14.now. I don't recall him going back for the second serve return. One in

:33:15. > :33:24.the first set. Such slim pickings. Good to see him make that

:33:25. > :33:30.adjustment. Still hitting that remarkable number. Ace every 2.5

:33:31. > :34:20.first serves, Cilic. Helps to be tall, in tennis. Since

:34:21. > :34:32.1970, seven champions 5'10 or under. Last to win a slam 5'10

:34:33. > :34:50.under, Gaston Gaudio at the French. Given the height on average unlikely

:34:51. > :35:16.we'll see one anytime soon. Another good one two punch from

:35:17. > :35:26.Federer but knockout blow potentially round the corner as

:35:27. > :35:33.Cilic comes out to serve for a 2-0 lead against the seven time

:35:34. > :35:48.champion. Flawless from the Croatian. Warm day. Hot, hard work

:35:49. > :35:50.for the seven time champion. Ball toss is something else. Lack of

:35:51. > :36:19.rotation. Cilic, had to do it the hard way,

:36:20. > :36:27.born, not even a tennis court built in the city he grew up in. 1991, got

:36:28. > :36:35.their first. Started playing, war between 92 and 95, couldn't play. He

:36:36. > :36:47.has seen a fair bit of life, this man. Said bad times have made good

:36:48. > :36:59.times even better. And good times so far for him in this quarter final.

:37:00. > :37:19.Federer on that return. Lands the first blow. Good forehand return.

:37:20. > :37:30.Did the hard work. Credit to Cilic who stayed as big as possible at the

:37:31. > :37:56.net. Everything Federer in the work has

:37:57. > :38:21.achieved, that was an unbelievable miss.

:38:22. > :38:34.Those are the points Federer must have, has to be winning, instead

:38:35. > :39:16.facing two set points to go down 2-0.

:39:17. > :39:35.Embark on a 10th time. To make the semis. Cilic wraps up a 2-0 lead. So

:39:36. > :39:44.rare to see Federer miss those. But Cilic 2-0 up. Roger needs to win the

:39:45. > :39:51.next three. On Court One, Raonic just taken the second set. 2-0. Up

:39:52. > :40:02.against the man who put out Djokovic. That is on BBC Two.

:40:03. > :40:13.Federer, also in court, summing up next, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against

:40:14. > :40:23.Andy Murray. Centre Court is going to reverberate with this chant

:40:24. > :40:31.later... Come on Andy! Come on Andy! Come on Andy! Come on Andy! Come on

:40:32. > :40:47.Andy! Come on Andy! A guy like that... You have to follow him. Andy

:40:48. > :40:58.may not have long to wait. Not if Cilic continues that form. Henman

:40:59. > :41:11.Hill. Wonderful scene. Enjoying it all unfold. They are watching Centre

:41:12. > :41:23.Court, seven time champion in trouble. Federer serving, down 2-0.

:41:24. > :41:26.The last time he went to five sets, he did recover. Against Monfils, US

:41:27. > :41:45.Open, 2014. Monfils had him dead to rights,

:41:46. > :41:52.third set. Fell away. Monfils wildly entertaining. Nowhere near as

:41:53. > :42:29.mentally stable as Cilic. 118, if he does't hit the spot

:42:30. > :42:46.perfectly, it will sit. Took the pace off it. 96. Federer up and

:42:47. > :42:54.running. Hard to relate to Roger. So on champion. Lets losses roll of his

:42:55. > :42:59.back better than any other champion. Operates differently. It is

:43:00. > :43:07.difficult to know if he is getting to the stage of his career, nerves

:43:08. > :43:16.are worse, because he knows time is maybe more limited. Chances, fewer.

:43:17. > :43:25.We do not know what is going on, in his head. But he could be thinking,

:43:26. > :43:28.this is such a chance, Novak out. Who knows. Only he knows. That would

:43:29. > :43:40.certainly be logical. I hope he gets a tonne. But I don't

:43:41. > :44:14.know. Not too many more chances. Opens up the angles. Croatians don't

:44:15. > :44:27.do small! 6'6 here. Ivanisovic, 6'4. Karlovic.

:44:28. > :44:39.The certainly makes it easier to win a few points, net height of 3'5.

:44:40. > :44:53.Hasn't changed since 1882. Why's that? Do you think we may need

:44:54. > :45:00.to look at that? No... Would you talk about moving service line

:45:01. > :45:13.closer? I do not think you need to do too much fiddling with the game.

:45:14. > :45:25.He's made that as well! What a performance this is proving to be

:45:26. > :46:38.from Cilic. Great serving from Roger. You know

:46:39. > :46:53.he's not going to leave Wimbledon without a fight.

:46:54. > :47:09.The only reason I asked about the net... NBA thinking about moving the

:47:10. > :47:13.basket up. Taller players. Basketball originally not designed

:47:14. > :47:24.to have the slam dunk. And I was just wondering, 1882, the ref used

:47:25. > :47:31.to taper the net, service line. Moving it depending on points. And

:47:32. > :47:39.we have the situation, I think if you raise the net too much,

:47:40. > :47:45.potentially you have got to hit it higher, easier for taller players,

:47:46. > :47:50.the zero going to potentially lose much anyway. It is probably going to

:47:51. > :48:06.become a talking point, at some stage.

:48:07. > :48:19.Such a complete player these days. No question Goran, full time super

:48:20. > :48:45.coach, has done a wonderful job with Cilic.

:48:46. > :48:56.Cilic had been coached by one of the great Aussie's, Bob to Goran. Bit of

:48:57. > :49:01.a hand off. Goran got Bob involved in Zagreb. If when he left to

:49:02. > :49:20.practice more. He has plenty of perspective, Cilic

:49:21. > :49:33.as it has not been plain sailing in his life, career. Failed the test.

:49:34. > :49:43.Accidental. Glucose tablet. Had a banned substance. Out of

:49:44. > :49:54.competition, banned, appealed, served under half a year.

:49:55. > :50:09.That took him off the tour for a bit. Made up for lost time since

:50:10. > :50:14.then. Prior to winning the US Open. Here, he withdrew in the second

:50:15. > :50:19.round, fake injury after he had been notified he had failed the test. But

:50:20. > :50:41.a good man. Innocent mistake. That mistake, innocent or not? That

:50:42. > :51:33.could change the set, the match. Lax attempt.

:51:34. > :51:45.Backhand hasn't been working as well as it's needed to. You don't almost

:51:46. > :51:54.sense the crowd wanting to get their teeth in this set. Give Federer a

:51:55. > :52:21.lift, but a Cilic ace then unforced error from the Federer backhand.

:52:22. > :52:33.Benefit by hitting the lines. At times, checks. Threw Federer's

:52:34. > :52:49.timing off on the side looking more and more vulnerable.

:52:50. > :53:02.Federer releasing stress there, with the "come on"! A little on tilt

:53:03. > :53:12.right now. Product of that half chance gone by, last return game.

:53:13. > :53:23.Weight of the scoreboard on his shoulders right now.

:53:24. > :53:36.This surface, more than any other, puts you under pressure. Drop serve

:53:37. > :53:38.against Cilic and chance gone. Clay, hard, more chance to get back. Not

:53:39. > :54:02.here. Not even Roger. In raising, and then it is a

:54:03. > :54:04.rousing, kicked so many to Cilic and we are seeing some changes, to the

:54:05. > :54:51.forehand. Did well to salvage the situation.

:54:52. > :54:57.Terrific return. 3-2. Federer, staying in front, only just. We will

:54:58. > :55:09.be back in a moment. And it is going Raonic's way. Live on BBC Two. That

:55:10. > :55:33.is what is happening, on Court One, back to Centre. This is how we like

:55:34. > :55:35.to see Wimbledon, blue skies, sunshine, Paris this year was tough

:55:36. > :55:44.for fans and players, 12, 13 degrees. Not an ounce of sunshine,

:55:45. > :55:54.ten days! And just two minutes, after Djokovic secured the trophy,

:55:55. > :56:05.sun out for the ceremony! It was tough, for everybody, this is

:56:06. > :56:15.refreshing, bathed in sunshine. Will this man have the warm glow of

:56:16. > :56:26.success around him today? Looks that way.

:56:27. > :56:41.We talked, about how important it was for Federer to try to extend

:56:42. > :56:48.these rallies, get Cilic moving, extra shots. Unable to do that.

:56:49. > :57:00.Grand total of four points, more than nine shot rallies. Federer just

:57:01. > :57:10.has not been able to use his armoury. He has not been allowed to.

:57:11. > :57:14.Cilic has been looking to dictate, dominate, Federer has been reactive

:57:15. > :57:42.rather than proactive. That has been such a difference, the

:57:43. > :57:47.effectiveness of Cilic's two handed backhand. Ten mile an hour speed

:57:48. > :58:01.difference, Cilic hitting the faster shot. Very accurate.

:58:02. > :58:12.The was a sensational pick up. I was watching Cilic, I thought he had no

:58:13. > :58:28.chance. Almost all listening for the umpire! Double bounce? Certainly,

:58:29. > :58:29.Federer doing well to react. But at 4-0 probably won't make a

:58:30. > :58:54.difference. -- 40-0. Stunning. What a shot. Excellent,

:58:55. > :59:06.from Cilic. This is not just about Federer not being able to play how

:59:07. > :59:11.he does, this is Cilic nullifying. This is shades of Flushing Meadows

:59:12. > :59:27.2014. This is the stage, when he put his foot on the accelerator, not

:59:28. > :59:30.losing a set from there on. That is again, just a gorgeous forehand.

:59:31. > :59:38.Return has been one of the most damaging. You can see the speeds.

:59:39. > :59:50.Just looked up the difference, Cilic taking a wee Federer's time.

:59:51. > :00:00.It is 14 mile difference. Red alert time for Federer and his fans. 3-3.

:00:01. > :00:14.0-30. What a short from Cilic. Three

:00:15. > :01:12.mini-break points coming. Brilliant from Federer! He just kept

:01:13. > :01:29.getting back inside Cilic. Never allowed Cilic to settle for

:01:30. > :01:45.any of those shots. Can he recover this from 0- 40?

:01:46. > :01:54.APPLAUSE CHEERING

:01:55. > :01:56.A kick-serve, to the strongest return Cilic had, he cannot find the

:01:57. > :02:19.strength. Well... Well... Couldn't find the

:02:20. > :02:23.strings, I don't think he could quite move his feet, definitely a

:02:24. > :02:28.little bit of nervous tension in those legs.

:02:29. > :02:36.CHEERING Rogers still standing as he receives

:02:37. > :02:41.a partial standing ovation from his camp and also the crowd.

:02:42. > :02:52.Is that the first tentative step in terms of a comeback? It is a little

:02:53. > :03:06.crack in the facade of marrying Cilic. -- Marin Cilic. It makes for

:03:07. > :03:10.a long 60 Seconds. For the Croat. If he needs any encouragement, take a

:03:11. > :03:14.look at the scoreboard, you were still up White two sets, still on

:03:15. > :03:19.serve. Federer... Boy, that should give him a fair bit of adrenaline.

:03:20. > :03:24.He is certainly looking for that spark, something for him and the

:03:25. > :03:30.crowd to get their teeth stuck into. Yes...

:03:31. > :03:38.He hasn't broken serve, from 0- 40, it almost felt like a break in a way

:03:39. > :03:46.as far as positive energy and emotion for Federer... Putting on

:03:47. > :03:56.this new shirt with a break in serve...

:03:57. > :04:36.Back from the brink. How will Cilic react?

:04:37. > :04:47.Was it me or did Cilic take a good amount of time getting ready for

:04:48. > :04:52.that serve? Whatever he did, it was still a good serve, 130 miles an

:04:53. > :05:09.hour, the momentum in this set has shifted.

:05:10. > :05:21.One of his best backhand returns of the day. Pace and depth finally and

:05:22. > :05:40.Cilic unable to cope. UMPIRE: Mr Federer challenge the

:05:41. > :05:51.call on the left service line, the ball was called in...

:05:52. > :05:57.Decent response, Federer can't believe how far are in it was. It

:05:58. > :06:05.gave Federer some extra seconds, it did not change anything.

:06:06. > :06:10.He is down by two sets and not raking his opponent served all day,

:06:11. > :06:25.he is prepared to try anything. Goodness, gracious. How good is that

:06:26. > :06:32.serve? Tough to argue. I could argue he is the worst challenger of line

:06:33. > :06:50.calls of all time! In the era of Hawk-Eye.

:06:51. > :06:59.APPLAUSE CHEERING

:07:00. > :07:04.Not the cleanest backhand he has ever hit certainly effective, kept

:07:05. > :07:05.the ball deep. Keeps himself in this Cilic service

:07:06. > :07:18.game. CHEERING

:07:19. > :07:47.APPLAUSE This is what Federer wasn't able to

:07:48. > :07:53.do earlier, convert the second serve on break point. And he went forehand

:07:54. > :08:11.again. CHEERING

:08:12. > :08:18.You see the reaction from the crowd, certainly a lot of people out here

:08:19. > :08:19.who would like to see Roger Federer playing for a lot longer.

:08:20. > :09:46.CHEERING Still had to be vigilant for the

:09:47. > :10:00.attempted pass from Federer. CHEERING

:10:01. > :10:23.Back right from the edge, Federer. Now with set point...

:10:24. > :10:27.He seals the third... Arguably his best backhand of the match down the

:10:28. > :10:38.line. And optimism returning for this

:10:39. > :10:57.Centre Court crowd. Federer not offering an escape route

:10:58. > :11:04.back into the set for Cilic who looked destined to win in straight

:11:05. > :11:08.sets but Federer grabs the third. And has momentum and the crowd

:11:09. > :11:14.firmly on his side. He has the knowledge that Cilic has blinked

:11:15. > :11:17.when he was on a winning position, a chance to steal this match in

:11:18. > :11:23.straight sets, Cilic blinked. For Federer, that is something to tuck

:11:24. > :11:28.away in the back of his mind if he gets into a tight situation again in

:11:29. > :11:29.the fourth or potentially save set if that is where we are travelling

:11:30. > :11:41.to. Tim, you are the stats guy, what

:11:42. > :11:46.does this mean? Look at the first serve percentage of Cilic, the first

:11:47. > :11:50.two sets, getting better, but dropping down to 52%, Federer

:11:51. > :12:01.getting some looks at second serve, the bubbly the most important start

:12:02. > :12:06.was break points one, Cilic 3-3, federal one-for-one. We could see

:12:07. > :12:17.what was going on in the mind of marrying Cilic.

:12:18. > :12:23.Some were from the depths of despair he must have been feeling, Federer,

:12:24. > :12:31.he has managed to drag and resuscitating this challenge at this

:12:32. > :12:36.year's Wimbledon. It would have been an uncomfortable last 10-15 minutes

:12:37. > :12:38.for Cilic. Serving first in the fourth, needs to get off to a

:12:39. > :12:50.positive start. Bit they regroup for Andy Murray and

:12:51. > :12:52.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, they would have been thinking lacing up the shoes 20

:12:53. > :14:02.minutes ago. Couldn't leave anything behind on

:14:03. > :14:30.that one. Roger Federer... The player who has

:14:31. > :14:36.the game that is easiest on the eyes, flowing, effortless style.

:14:37. > :14:46.Virtually poetic. Cilic's game is rather manufactured. It's effective,

:14:47. > :14:53.we know that. You can see the work he has put into it. What was the

:14:54. > :14:57.best bit of advice either of you two had in this situation that Cilic

:14:58. > :15:01.finds himself in in terms of reacting well to a situation that

:15:02. > :15:07.suddenly felt you were on the cusp of a famous win and it went away? It

:15:08. > :15:12.is important that Cilic stays in the present tense, stays in a good

:15:13. > :15:19.position, up 2-1 sets, but focuses on the process, not the outcome. He

:15:20. > :15:23.has the game plan that is dictating play, an uncomfortable last 15

:15:24. > :15:27.minutes but if he gets back into the moment of first serve, first shot in

:15:28. > :15:36.the rally... That is what has worked for him.

:15:37. > :15:42.Was there a trigger for you, Jim? We talk about staying in the present

:15:43. > :15:47.but it is far harder to actually achieved. Keeping your feet moving

:15:48. > :15:52.is something that Cilic could do, it is a trigger that are used, stay

:15:53. > :15:58.light on your toes, as Tim mentioned, when Cilic got tight, his

:15:59. > :16:00.feet seemed to grow roots into the ground, they stopped moving. Big

:16:01. > :16:16.words! If he can try and stay light at his

:16:17. > :16:24.feet, everything else could flow from there.

:16:25. > :16:31.And stay loose. That is the thing. When players get tight, their feet

:16:32. > :16:36.stop moving and the racket head speed slows down, you try and muscle

:16:37. > :16:48.the ball. Rather than just flowing. And accelerating naturally.

:16:49. > :17:04.1-1. Both players looking to change rackets. The new balls coming into

:17:05. > :17:16.play. Was that something you did, Jim? You

:17:17. > :17:19.just played with the same tension? It wasn't necessarily the same

:17:20. > :17:25.tension but I didn't necessarily change with the new balls. I had an

:17:26. > :17:30.amount of time that my rackets would last, this day is with the strain

:17:31. > :17:34.they lose a little bit more attention than our strings used to.

:17:35. > :17:38.That is why you see the players changing with balls, the strings

:17:39. > :19:10.stretched just a little bit more, apparently.

:19:11. > :19:16.He has kind of weathered the storm of momentum, we talk about this

:19:17. > :19:20.going into a final set, someone wins the second or fourth and they have

:19:21. > :19:23.the momentum but it seems to get subdued quickly and Cilic has

:19:24. > :19:30.perhaps managed to navigate the worst of it. He might have, it is

:19:31. > :19:34.tough to keep momentum on this surface because it's so hard to

:19:35. > :19:44.break serve, it's not that you get into a lot of rallies but let's see

:19:45. > :19:49.what Federer did different. He was pinned back much more in the first

:19:50. > :19:53.two sets... You can see how offensive he became. 45% of the

:19:54. > :20:01.shots taking place inside the baseline. That is a pretty sizeable

:20:02. > :20:06.change for Roger Federer. We have looked at Cilic from Hawk-Eye, the

:20:07. > :20:14.same stat, not much change. It was really more about Federer taking

:20:15. > :20:19.advantage of chances and quite frankly, that's 0- 40 mess.

:20:20. > :20:27.Some pointers on the bigger than others. They certainly are. And some

:20:28. > :21:05.hats are clearly bigger than others as well!

:21:06. > :21:09.There is that extra pace that he has on the ball that hurry is Federer

:21:10. > :21:53.into an error. For a big guy, Cilic, he does a

:21:54. > :21:59.great job of overrunning the ball when he is on the stretch. He is not

:22:00. > :22:03.going to ever be the most nimble but Federer had him out wide, there

:22:04. > :22:10.wasn't a lot of space to hit that ball into, he tried to create

:22:11. > :22:18.something out of nothing, Roger... A chance for Cilic lapses let's see

:22:19. > :22:21.whether he can stay light on his feet. Really connected with some

:22:22. > :22:48.returns. Needs one more. Bad return our great serving to the

:22:49. > :22:57.body? 100 miles an hour serve into the body of Cilic has two land that,

:22:58. > :22:59.cannot miss that return. It is a second serve, not a first serve, he

:23:00. > :23:15.has to make this one. That is a chant from Cilic. Full

:23:16. > :23:19.credit to Federer, you don't get that many free points on a second

:23:20. > :23:21.serve, Federer just got to monumentally important points.

:23:22. > :23:49.Donations... You find in Formula 1, if you could

:23:50. > :23:58.see all the miles on the players, you could see for Cilic's stress

:23:59. > :24:01.levels are now. And if we had talked back, we could listen to Goran

:24:02. > :24:06.Ivanisevic talking to Cilic... There might be some beeps.

:24:07. > :24:13.UMPIRE: Mr Cilic challenging the call on the

:24:14. > :24:20.left fireside... He feels Cilic had a good view of that...

:24:21. > :24:30.Not looking quite so good for the creation. More chances come and go.

:24:31. > :24:33.On the one hand Cilic could be reflecting, saying I am creating

:24:34. > :24:37.opportunities on serve, getting a good look, the other side of the

:24:38. > :25:06.coin, when he has opportunities, he is looking pretty tight.

:25:07. > :25:13.Tight was not a word you could describe Cilic when he beat Federer

:25:14. > :25:18.at the US Open, converting four adder added chances. It was one of

:25:19. > :25:31.six today here against Federer. And I am not sure it the next ones

:25:32. > :25:46.get any easier, leaving those behind.

:25:47. > :25:57.Genius! CHEERING

:25:58. > :26:05.Give the man at Kansas, this is what he will paint for you.

:26:06. > :26:39.Thoughts of what has just gone by, lingering around, clearly for Cilic.

:26:40. > :26:48.Seemed a little late... The sound that we could hear, I couldn't even

:26:49. > :26:53.hear the machine, obviously it went off for the umpire... Certainly it

:26:54. > :27:17.has been a match of fine margins. CHEERING

:27:18. > :27:22.Could not have worked that point any better, pretty deductible for a

:27:23. > :27:31.Cilic was going to go after the return and Federer stayed home.

:27:32. > :27:37.Getting out of trouble, breaking straightaway. Do the same here in

:27:38. > :27:54.the fourth. A little bird has just flown onto

:27:55. > :28:16.the court... I wonder what speed that was... 128

:28:17. > :28:32.mile an hour ace to try and get himself out of jail.

:28:33. > :28:44.Well... Federer moving over to the middle of the court to try and get

:28:45. > :28:49.Cilic to serve... Cilic took the bait, served behind him.

:28:50. > :28:57.Cilic hasn't delivered on the break point on the Federer serve but

:28:58. > :28:59.certainly when he has faced a crisis on his own serve, he has hit the

:29:00. > :29:18.spot. LAUGHTER he cannot bear to look

:29:19. > :29:25.already, that is why everyone loves him so much. One of the great

:29:26. > :29:29.characters of the game. He sat back in his chair when that second break

:29:30. > :29:37.point went in the Federer service game, he knew how big it was. Looked

:29:38. > :29:38.like Cilic tuque page ad of Sampras's book, threw it up and hit

:29:39. > :29:55.it. He is sitting down there. A big gulp

:29:56. > :30:03.of water and a sigh of relief for Cilic. He could have got symmetry as

:30:04. > :30:08.well, not quite the same scoreline, there is the power behind the throne

:30:09. > :30:12.for Roger, his mother, she is the sporting gene, it was due to the

:30:13. > :30:17.fact that she used to play grass hockey without shin pads, Persians

:30:18. > :30:21.got broken so many times that eventually she said, no more and to

:30:22. > :30:26.to the tennis courts and have not been the case, we may never have

:30:27. > :30:36.witnessed what we have since 2003 here at the All-England Club!

:30:37. > :30:50.Nice blend, parents, father Robert, what an adventurer. No GPS out

:30:51. > :31:08.there! 40 plus years ago. He has had that pioneer spirit

:31:09. > :31:37.throughout his career, Roger. Been the best ambassador, for men's

:31:38. > :31:47.tennis, I can remember, combined his achievements, with such dignity, and

:31:48. > :31:56.class. In a sport that demands a microcosmic view. Fought for the

:31:57. > :32:06.lower class, the first three rounds, prize money. We may never see a

:32:07. > :32:25.player like him. Incredible role murder.

:32:26. > :32:40.Second serve ace. Getting better for Federer. But no room for error with

:32:41. > :33:16.the situation he finds himself in now.

:33:17. > :33:30.Confident shot, that last forehand from Cilic and if he was nervous...

:33:31. > :33:41.Don't have the speed, it falls on the net. Change of tactics from

:33:42. > :33:50.Federer as not so much chip and charge, bluff and charge. Just

:33:51. > :35:24.challenging Cilic and the Croatian not up to it.

:35:25. > :35:47.132, the final serve to the body. Any sense this sight of nerves for

:35:48. > :35:58.Cilic compared to New York? Closed it out. All looking unconscious

:35:59. > :36:07.there. It could be the location issue, something to do with that? He

:36:08. > :36:14.is the only one, who knows why he was looking tight, he seemed to be

:36:15. > :36:19.absolutely unconscious, he had not sustained, the way he did. It was an

:36:20. > :36:30.incredible performance. He has been much more uneven today. Had his

:36:31. > :36:35.chances. Convereted some, to take the champ out. Had the champ on the

:36:36. > :37:59.ropes. Couldn't have asked more from

:38:00. > :38:19.himself. Certainly, moving along, rapid pace.

:38:20. > :38:43.It could be more mentally draining than physically.

:38:44. > :39:00.That is phenomenal. He had to make some adjustments, so easy to

:39:01. > :39:15.underhit this. To play a half-volley with slice, not easy.

:39:16. > :40:15.Cilic certainly had a wobble, end of the third, but restored his play.

:40:16. > :40:27.That flick of the back, of the forehand, can get him into trouble

:40:28. > :40:42.but in that position Federer couldn't catch up. What a return.

:40:43. > :40:52.Federer looking for that forehand. Launched into that one. 40-30... 85

:40:53. > :41:18.mph off the first serve. Majority, 50. What a difference for Roger.

:41:19. > :41:32.Gave himself a half chance. Couldn't take it. 5-4. Federer is going to be

:41:33. > :41:43.dolling out, serve to stay in this, one Centre Court. And on Court

:41:44. > :41:53.Number One, Raonic 3-2 up, two sets to one. That is the situation, Court

:41:54. > :42:04.Number One, BBC Two. And outside, this is the end of resale queues.

:42:05. > :42:16.How many people hoping they'll get in? On and on! Quarterfinals, who is

:42:17. > :42:26.going to leave? Early dinner reservation!? Coming up next, Murray

:42:27. > :42:37.against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and also, Berdych against on and on...

:42:38. > :42:43.Long wait. I wish them well! Pouille, but for the people, at

:42:44. > :42:48.Centre Court, there it is, the front! Everybody enjoying their time

:42:49. > :43:08.on Centre. Second serve. And Cilic has polished

:43:09. > :43:11.Federer. -- punished. Federer serving to stay in the

:43:12. > :43:33.Championships. Won the US Open, then lost his next

:43:34. > :43:50.11 to top ten opponents. Big moment for both. Cilic can reclaim some of

:43:51. > :44:02.his glory. Cilic made the semis of the US last year without beating

:44:03. > :44:12.anyone in the top ten. This would be something entirely different.

:44:13. > :44:30.Ambitious shot to play at this stage...

:44:31. > :44:50.Federer tried finesse, Cilic stayed with power. He has created and lost

:44:51. > :45:14.a few chances... Got himself to match point.

:45:15. > :45:59.The last three break points, second serve, hasn't found the court.

:46:00. > :46:12.Not just still alive. Now just because the education, smart

:46:13. > :46:23.serving, ball back into court, at the same time, he's narrowed the

:46:24. > :46:38.angle, even if Cilic makes it more pressure on the return. Not

:46:39. > :46:42.unchartered territory for Cilic to win against a top three in the Grand

:46:43. > :46:44.Slam, done it against Murray and Nadal, Beijing, but does not, round

:46:45. > :47:08.or hidden. -- come around often. Maybe catches a fraction of string?

:47:09. > :47:13.The most expensive part of the racket! At this stage, he will take

:47:14. > :48:20.anything that he can get. The opening shot of the game was

:48:21. > :48:34.lucky... No luck there. Pure class. Struck with conviction of a champion

:48:35. > :49:00.who still believes he can win. Speaking of class... The shot at

:49:01. > :49:51.15-30 for Cilic. Stifles the disappointment of match point gone.

:49:52. > :50:16.5-5, 30-30, fourth set! Got to be careful!

:50:17. > :50:26.Passed that test with flying colours, Cilic. Federer had so much

:50:27. > :50:40.spin on that slice. Trying to bury it. Federer was angry at the end of

:50:41. > :50:54.that. Don't see a lot of negative energy from Roger. But shouted in

:50:55. > :51:03.the court. What an escape. Serve variation, big part in Cilic not

:51:04. > :51:10.getting into rhythm. But nerves and tension for Cilic still

:51:11. > :51:21.unmistakable. That is what makes this great. He has got to find a way

:51:22. > :51:33.through. And 83%, against his normal, telling for both. Tip our

:51:34. > :51:49.cap to Federer to go for more on the second serve, he has. If Federer

:51:50. > :52:06.wants to see a fifth set, has to hold and get through a tie breaker.

:52:07. > :52:13.Almost seems to me, Cilic and his return, on the first serve he has

:52:14. > :52:39.less time to react. Different story. Brave return. Skipped off the net.

:52:40. > :53:00.Impossible for Federer but credit to Cilic. Answered with perfection.

:53:01. > :53:44.This time, didn't need a second serve to get out of trouble! Hasn't

:53:45. > :53:50.landed a serve out wide on break point. 18th ace. Followed by his

:53:51. > :54:24.19th! Feature of his career. How reliable

:54:25. > :55:06.that first serve is under pressure. Cilic wrestled control of the first

:55:07. > :55:23.set tie break at this point. Cilic would get the next two.

:55:24. > :55:43.Goodness. If he gets out of this... Not beause he played it safe! 111

:55:44. > :56:00.mph second serve! Brave if you make it, stupid if you miss. What a

:56:01. > :56:05.return. That thing was so low. Over the tape. First mini-break goes to

:56:06. > :56:58.Cilic. UMPIRE: Cilic challenging the call.

:56:59. > :57:31.Goran had an inkling! Not ending well for his player.

:57:32. > :57:45.Almost got the sense Roger didn't pick up the ball. Softly hit.

:57:46. > :58:09.Dipping as it got to Federer who is so good on the rise.

:58:10. > :58:20.A lot of collective breath holding for fans in here! Hold it till the

:58:21. > :58:24.end of this? Murray and Tsonga paying attention! Wondering if

:58:25. > :58:45.they're on soon. Wonderful to see just how accurate

:58:46. > :59:19.serving has been since 6-5. Peppered the lines.

:59:20. > :59:36.It did not miss by much. But it missed by enough. CHEERING

:59:37. > :59:41.. I beg your pardon. Unbelievable! He challenged so casually, it did

:59:42. > :59:44.not look as though he believed it was in.

:59:45. > :00:32.UMPIRE: 5-3, Federer. That is some reaction from Cilic. It

:00:33. > :00:37.was as though somebody had punched him when that challenge was called.

:00:38. > :00:44.Watch him on that first serve, on that forehand. Federer had two

:00:45. > :01:05.serves and a chance to send this to a fifth.

:01:06. > :01:14.Break point, second serve, forehand body. He has targeted the weak area

:01:15. > :01:37.and he has got his wall, two set points the Federer. Dashes reward.

:01:38. > :01:51.UMPIRE: 6-5, Akrotiri. -- macro three. The encouragement continues

:01:52. > :01:55.right after the blemish. Just can't believe that forehand. Still set

:01:56. > :02:13.point. His first serve was not going to go

:02:14. > :02:18.into hibernation for very long. For Federer, that their hand at 6-4 was

:02:19. > :02:24.nervous and he did not get himself in position. He wanted it too much

:02:25. > :02:34.and he swung to sue at it. The same pedigree as the most backhand at 5-4

:02:35. > :02:36.at 0- four -- 0-40, macro -- one serving. Shots he would normally

:02:37. > :02:55.have made. -- Marin Cilic serving. So the pendulum that has been

:02:56. > :02:57.swinging one way and then the other swings firmly back in favour of

:02:58. > :03:29.Cilic. Third match point. That was just a battle of wills. You

:03:30. > :03:37.knew where it was going and he just could not convert. Federer again,

:03:38. > :03:40.108 mph with the forehand, that is a lot faster than his normal second.

:03:41. > :04:10.That is courage. CHEERING survival instincts kicking

:04:11. > :04:17.in for Federer after a great return, he put Cilic in a very uncomfortable

:04:18. > :04:29.edition. UMPIRE: 8-7, Federer.

:04:30. > :04:37.Cilic not able to fashion the shot that he wanted. Set point, Federer.

:04:38. > :05:28.Credit to Cilic. Federer asking the question, putting the pressure on,

:05:29. > :05:39.we have seen that working before. And that is how you respond to a

:05:40. > :06:03.crisis. Do you fancy coaching any time soon, Jim?

:06:04. > :06:25.A fourth set point, is second on his own serve.

:06:26. > :06:33.UMPIRE: Mr Federer challenges the call on the service line.

:06:34. > :06:38.He is going to challenge that. Does he go against the grain of the

:06:39. > :06:56.second serve on break points? He does. Cilic makes the return, but

:06:57. > :07:02.it is not his turn to try and finish things. I'm getting Whiplash!

:07:03. > :07:10.Watching this momentum going backhand forth. This is why I love

:07:11. > :07:52.the sport. Watching these players battle each other and themselves.

:07:53. > :07:55.Everything right for Marin Cilic apart from the final shot, some

:07:56. > :08:36.desperate defence. From Roger. Everybody wonders why he keeps going

:08:37. > :08:41.and that is why. How do you ever replace being in the cauldron of

:08:42. > :08:55.competition here on Centre Court? Two sets each.

:08:56. > :09:02.Sue Barker: What a match this is and what a set of tennis! This much

:09:03. > :09:08.absolutely has everything, quality of tennis, tension and drama, all

:09:09. > :09:12.over the place. We will be right back on Centre Court but while the

:09:13. > :09:16.drama was unfolding on Centre Court, Milos Raonic has gone through to the

:09:17. > :09:26.semifinal at Wimbledon, winning in four sets over the Conqueror of

:09:27. > :09:30.Novak Djokovic. Milos Raonic who played so well in the Queen's final

:09:31. > :09:35.against Andy Murray and who locked in form here and has gone through in

:09:36. > :09:39.four sets against a man who has looked so dangerous. He wins the

:09:40. > :09:43.battle of the big servers on Court Number One. And he will play the

:09:44. > :09:47.winner on Centre Court. Everybody having a breather after that, what a

:09:48. > :09:53.set of tennis and what a fightback from Roger Federer. Everybody

:09:54. > :09:56.enjoying the match on the hill for everybody -- and for everybody lucky

:09:57. > :10:00.enough to have a ticket, they have witnessed something special and I

:10:01. > :10:04.hope you are enjoying it at home. Roger Federer back in this match,

:10:05. > :10:12.two sets each. Let's rejoin Centre Court.

:10:13. > :10:18.COMMENTARY: One more was the sign Roger was giving his camp. One more

:10:19. > :10:21.set he needs, but so does Marin Cilic, he just needed one more point

:10:22. > :10:31.on three separate occasions and he could not take it. And these two

:10:32. > :10:36.creating a bit of Wimbledon history. Most people assume the player who

:10:37. > :10:44.comes from 2-0 down has the momentum and wins the majority of the sets.

:10:45. > :10:50.If you take a look back over time, more players win the first after

:10:51. > :10:53.dropping the third and fourth. So history is not on Federer's side

:10:54. > :11:09.from that standpoint. But his disposition must certainly

:11:10. > :11:17.be more solid than that of Marin Cilic right now. Cilic would have

:11:18. > :11:28.every right to be downright surly rates now. -- right now. Not overly

:11:29. > :11:31.demonstrative. He doesn't get very negative on himself. Nope, that is

:11:32. > :11:33.the first bit of emotion with his hand that he kind of just threw

:11:34. > :11:55.away. Roger Goodell against any let down

:11:56. > :12:21.of adrenaline after that pulsating tie break -- guarding against.

:12:22. > :12:27.Cilic we were talking about in the first two sets going wide to the

:12:28. > :12:29.forehand, Federer has really taken advantage of attacking that side of

:12:30. > :12:34.Cilic on the return. Making inroads in this opening

:12:35. > :13:43.Federer service game, the Croatian. Ivan Ljubicic she out of his chair

:13:44. > :13:49.before the ball hit the net, he knew how important that was. It is

:13:50. > :13:54.certainly a long time in this match since we could say that Federer was

:13:55. > :13:59.in the lead. He stuck in, taking his chances. And now the pressure is

:14:00. > :14:06.right on Marin Cilic at the beginning of the Fed. We touched on

:14:07. > :14:14.the fact his last five set match was a coming from behind victory from

:14:15. > :14:18.two sets down against Gael Monfils. He has not lost since losing to

:14:19. > :14:22.Novak Djokovic in 2014. But very different circumstances right now

:14:23. > :14:44.for Cilic. He has got a little extra baggage

:14:45. > :14:47.heading into this set than he had in any of the others. We talked about

:14:48. > :14:49.the psychology of staying in the present and it is easy to look back

:14:50. > :15:25.into the past. Oh, boy.

:15:26. > :15:30.UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is making a challenge on the left baseline.

:15:31. > :15:34.Keeping quiet on these challenges. This was bad luck for Federer, he

:15:35. > :15:39.was going to win this point and is now Cilic gets a first serve

:15:40. > :15:48.instead. Federer was going to have 15-30 in this game. Even in the age

:15:49. > :15:54.of Hawk-Eye, calls can still impact matches.

:15:55. > :16:22.Federer is having a chat to the linesman. He is just irritated.

:16:23. > :16:56.That call may have changed the course of this fifth set. A

:16:57. > :17:00.different endeavour and Federer is so dishevelled, he thought it was a

:17:01. > :17:11.change of ends and he was striding to his chair rather than getting

:17:12. > :17:12.back ready to serve. The only time dishevelled and Federer has been

:17:13. > :17:44.used in a sentence before. It was a good illustration of how

:17:45. > :17:59.important some points can be, even the great players like Federer.

:18:00. > :18:22.Confirmation the line judge got it right that time!

:18:23. > :18:33.Everyone is feeling the pressure. Cilic is going to challenge this

:18:34. > :19:10.overrule from the chair umpire. Federer drops a sandbag over the

:19:11. > :19:20.court over Cilic to go 2-1 up in the fifth. I just wondered whether at

:19:21. > :19:27.40-0 he might change that second serve out wide to the backhand side

:19:28. > :19:31.for later in the set, in case he has more crisis moments. Federer is so

:19:32. > :19:36.good at doing that. Just throwing in enough subterfuge to make you think

:19:37. > :19:45.you might go someplace when he has that school board caution. And best

:19:46. > :19:48.is an advantage sets are no tie break option, somebody has to break

:19:49. > :20:03.serve, and that has been very difficult. Federer 1-61 break point

:20:04. > :20:07.chances. Cilic is 1-8. Jim and I were asked for our opinion before

:20:08. > :20:14.the match, who are you going to take at this stage, Mark Petchey? Get off

:20:15. > :20:23.the fence. I think Roger right now is going to somehow budget. -- edge

:20:24. > :20:29.it. I'm flying in the face of statistics of who normally wins in

:20:30. > :20:36.these circumstances. I can't what I said before the match. You said in

:20:37. > :20:44.five. -- I can't remember. You said Federer. You could not agree with

:20:45. > :20:55.me. I will take a little of your credit.

:20:56. > :21:02.Overcoming that by the challenge he missed earlier in the match, that

:21:03. > :21:12.could get you back to level pegging is. I will take that. 1-2, 0-15,

:21:13. > :21:22.Cilic. He needs to get back to those first serve is hitting the spots. --

:21:23. > :21:46.first serves. And he needs to be the one getting on the offence.

:21:47. > :21:54.It is interesting to see who finishes strongest here. They have

:21:55. > :22:01.both been a little light on matches this season. And certainly, those

:22:02. > :22:04.opening four sets would have taken something out of them and

:22:05. > :22:05.emotionally as well as physically, even though it has been relatively

:22:06. > :22:19.quick. Roger is a little more used to

:22:20. > :22:21.playing at this intensity than Cilic, so it plays in his favour

:22:22. > :22:36.down the stretch. I think I would also slightly

:22:37. > :22:39.question the miles that Roger has in his legs, a disjointed start the

:22:40. > :22:45.season. Knee surgery, illness, back problems. He has not played a

:22:46. > :22:47.massive amount of tennis by his standards and deep in the fifth set,

:22:48. > :23:13.that could have an influence. The good news for Federer is at this

:23:14. > :23:16.stage in the tournaments, he has had a good route to the quarterfinals.

:23:17. > :23:21.He started tentatively probably because of the back issues and the

:23:22. > :24:08.questions he had what he seems fairly uninhibited right now.

:24:09. > :24:20.Roger just throwing in a 0- 30 for Cilic to have something to think

:24:21. > :24:25.about later on, serve and volley. I think you might have hit the same

:24:26. > :24:33.played of grass with that serve previously, it was that accurate. --

:24:34. > :24:45.he might. Outpacing Cilic now, 24-22. On the stroke of three hours.

:24:46. > :24:52.The only thing that looked likely at the third was we would get three

:24:53. > :24:55.sets, let alone three hours. He has had good disguised intensity

:24:56. > :24:59.throughout his career. You can understand why him and Stephan were

:25:00. > :25:05.a good match should, fire and inferno you need to get out of these

:25:06. > :25:08.situations burning brightly -- Stefan Edberg. No question, Federer

:25:09. > :25:13.has managed his energy physically and emotionally so well. You watch

:25:14. > :25:17.him practice at tournaments and he looks like he is barely trying. Even

:25:18. > :25:21.warming up for a match. He is so playful on the court and he brings

:25:22. > :25:25.wonderful energy and travel so likely at least tournaments. He does

:25:26. > :25:31.the hard work quietly, in Dubai or wherever he is training. I hear

:25:32. > :25:35.about it from young Americans brought over to be the pupils of

:25:36. > :25:38.Roger Federer, they talk about how intense birds training box art and

:25:39. > :25:47.we never get to see those, we just see this elegance and style he

:25:48. > :25:50.brings but he does a lot of work -- how intense those training sessions

:25:51. > :25:56.can be. And managing the emotion even down a break, there was never

:25:57. > :26:03.any panic. He was just waiting for his levels to improve. To seize the

:26:04. > :26:36.opportunity. Now up 3-2 in the fifth.

:26:37. > :26:45.Quite a way away from the finish line, but Federer has saved some

:26:46. > :26:50.match points already. The last male player to save a match point in a

:26:51. > :26:53.major and go on to win it did it against Roger Federer. In 2011, the

:26:54. > :27:10.US Open semifinals. Probably one of the most famous

:27:11. > :27:12.shots in the last decade. Novak Djokovic ripping that forehand

:27:13. > :27:20.winner against Roger Federer. At 15-40. And Federer missing the

:27:21. > :27:21.forehand on the tape as he served, and Novak Djokovic was the winner of

:27:22. > :27:29.the match and the title. Oh, my! The best shot of the day!

:27:30. > :28:12.How does he conjure that up? In case you are wondering, Federer

:28:13. > :28:18.has never done it, never needed to, I guess. Andy Roddick, Pete Sampras,

:28:19. > :28:50.Boris Becker, they all have. It is not too late in his career to

:28:51. > :29:00.add something else to the legacy, is it? Which is already rich and varied

:29:01. > :29:05.enough. But an opportunity here in the fifth for Federer the break. --

:29:06. > :29:38.the break. Federer, there, early the rally. A

:29:39. > :29:45.little tight looking to drive the rally down the line. It was not a

:29:46. > :30:27.convincing chart. -- convincing chart.

:30:28. > :31:17.Break points came and went. Dead even again.

:31:18. > :31:24.Changing up to serve. Federer, slower than some of the second

:31:25. > :32:04.serves. 105mph out wide. Cilic, just a little early.

:32:05. > :32:11.UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is challenging the call on the left. Always called out.

:32:12. > :32:15.This will be a good result for Roger Federer, what ever way you look at

:32:16. > :32:17.it. If it misses, he has won the point, if it is in he gets another

:32:18. > :32:42.chance to control the rally. Be giving away too Federer early in

:32:43. > :32:54.the set and then gave one right back here. -- he gave one way to Federer.

:32:55. > :33:05.The outcome of the game was never in doubt. A number of witnesses in the

:33:06. > :33:08.players box who also lived every moment of the drama as it has

:33:09. > :33:12.unfolded. Nervous tension on the court and in the box and in the

:33:13. > :33:15.crowd. Probably a bit of nervous tension in the locker room because

:33:16. > :33:20.unless you play the first Match of the Day, you do not know what time

:33:21. > :33:26.you're going to start and I'm sure Murray and Tsonga have gone through

:33:27. > :33:30.quite a few warm-ups already. Froggy emotion, there has been a little bit

:33:31. > :33:40.of a change from how Marin Cilic was controlling the match, and since

:33:41. > :33:48.sets two, he has had a few more forehands and less backhands. Roger

:33:49. > :33:51.changing things up, with Federer getting more forehands into play.

:33:52. > :33:54.The pattern of the rallies has changed but right now it is just

:33:55. > :34:00.about finding the right shot at the right time. Well executed break

:34:01. > :34:05.point, that is what it is boiling down to. Neither player able to do

:34:06. > :34:11.that in these latter stages of the match. Who has the nerve? Who can

:34:12. > :34:18.get his feet moving and get a loose enough to show us what is left in

:34:19. > :34:20.this match. Federer, can he hang on and take his chances? He has had a

:34:21. > :35:33.few. Almost trying to overplay that

:35:34. > :35:37.backhand slice, trying to get so much work on the ball. Coming from

:35:38. > :35:43.high to low, you can see what he thinks about that shot.

:35:44. > :35:54.That was a downright tantrum on Roger Federer's scale. At this stage

:35:55. > :36:43.in the match, you do not want to be giving away cheap points.

:36:44. > :36:50.Watch the racket head acceleration. Such a good second serve. Federer

:36:51. > :36:56.did well to plot the return is short and low. Again, it is a question of

:36:57. > :37:01.getting that the work right, getting up to the ball quick enough to

:37:02. > :37:12.accelerate on the shot. -- getting the footwork right.

:37:13. > :37:24.Federer with another break point chance. Cilic's forehand, he does

:37:25. > :37:33.not do enough with that approach shot and as a result, Federer makes

:37:34. > :37:35.him pay. A smart pass, running that far. There was always going to be a

:37:36. > :38:48.little space down the line. Efficient creativity but most

:38:49. > :38:54.importantly, nerve. A short delivered without self belief. Break

:38:55. > :38:59.point again. -- with utter self belief.

:39:00. > :39:06.That is going to be the first serve and volley for the entire match from

:39:07. > :39:19.Marin Cilic. That, for me, is a brain cramp.

:39:20. > :39:29.And that sends a signal. Too tight to play. And he is going to

:39:30. > :39:33.challenge this call, but I believe Roger Federer is going to be serving

:39:34. > :39:45.for a spot in the semifinals here momentarily.

:39:46. > :39:51.That unforced error from Marin Cilic, it was certainly one of the

:39:52. > :40:04.factors. I don't know whether the umpire said

:40:05. > :40:09.he has one challenge remaining or his challenges fading but after an

:40:10. > :40:13.hour and a half, it looks as if Marin Cilic, who was almost going

:40:14. > :40:19.towards his way into his first ever Wimbledon semifinal... But Federer

:40:20. > :40:24.now on the brink of his 11th Wimbledon semi.

:40:25. > :41:57.A 26th ace brings up two match points for Federer. Remarkable. So

:41:58. > :42:05.much has been said about this great champion over the years. And yet he

:42:06. > :42:10.continues to add chapters to this legacy that he has given the sport.

:42:11. > :42:15.He is truly one of the greatest players ever of the game. No matter

:42:16. > :42:20.if he goes on to win this title or not, another piece of Wimbledon

:42:21. > :42:27.history created here as he comes back from two sets to love down,

:42:28. > :42:31.saving three match points, and in a moment of euphoria for Federer and

:42:32. > :42:36.it stands, a moment to ponder the pain that Marin Cilic must be

:42:37. > :42:42.feeling right now. It was all they are for Cilic. He had the chance.

:42:43. > :42:51.Three break points in a role in the third set and the chance to deliver

:42:52. > :42:57.a knockout punch to Roger Federer. The last time they played in the US

:42:58. > :43:03.Open in the semifinals, and we talked so much about Roger Federer,

:43:04. > :43:08.but it is his nerves that won him this match today. Something Marin

:43:09. > :43:17.Cilic could not do with all of those break points on second serve.

:43:18. > :43:25.Federer had his chance there. And he got it. Another semifinal here at

:43:26. > :43:32.the All-England Club. One wonders, and only Marin Cilic can answer

:43:33. > :43:38.this, as we see Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue magazine,

:43:39. > :43:44.and his mother, absolutely thrilled by how the outcome ended for Roger,

:43:45. > :43:49.completing that comeback. A phenomenal match. And he is chatting

:43:50. > :43:53.to Lee McKenzie now. Roger, congratulations. We have been

:43:54. > :43:57.treated to such an incredible match of tennis, and a standing ovation at

:43:58. > :44:00.the end. After over three hours of tennis, you are through to your 11

:44:01. > :44:07.Wimbledon semifinal. Some are the emotions? A lot happened out there.

:44:08. > :44:12.It was nice and warm, nice to play these conditions. Marin is such a

:44:13. > :44:17.wonderful player and I knew I was in so much trouble in the third. Again

:44:18. > :44:20.in the fourth. So it was great fun playing against Marin and he is one

:44:21. > :44:25.of the nicest guys on the tour. I feel sorry for him but for me,

:44:26. > :44:29.obviously the dream continues. I could not be happier. I think I

:44:30. > :44:33.fought well and I played super great at the end. I am very pleased. There

:44:34. > :44:38.was a shot of you when you've lost the first two sets, sitting in your

:44:39. > :44:43.chair and steering calmly ahead. Give us an insight into what goes on

:44:44. > :44:50.in your mind. Do you always know you can come back? You hope so but you

:44:51. > :44:55.don't. You know, he had one chance and he took it and the next thing

:44:56. > :44:59.you know, two sets to love on grass, that is how it goes. He was playing

:45:00. > :45:06.very well. On the return, he was reading my serve, and I could not

:45:07. > :45:13.retailers. It was not going well for me. -- I could not read his. I hoped

:45:14. > :45:18.for his level to drop a little bit, and that was fortunately exactly

:45:19. > :45:22.what happened. The half-volley could have gone into the stands but it

:45:23. > :45:26.stays in. And then you are still in the Mansion you can turn it around.

:45:27. > :45:30.And the break was crazy. It was an incredible match. At the beginning

:45:31. > :45:34.of last week, you were not sure how strong your back was. You have been

:45:35. > :45:39.playing some incredible tennis. How far off your best you at the moment?

:45:40. > :45:48.I think the last three sets were really good. As the match went on,

:45:49. > :45:51.it is really encouraging to see that I am actually improving as the match

:45:52. > :45:54.goes on. I was able to sustain a really high level of play. My legs

:45:55. > :45:57.was there, my back was there. Against the big server it is crucial

:45:58. > :46:01.not to fall behind. I was able to do all of those things. Mentally, this

:46:02. > :46:06.give me a boost and I was really pleased, ecstatic that I was able to

:46:07. > :46:10.come through. Your next opponent is Milos Raonic, and you beat him in

:46:11. > :46:14.the semifinal here two years ago. Hacked Off is this next match going

:46:15. > :46:23.to be? Right now, standing here, very tough. But I have the next day

:46:24. > :46:33.to recover. He is a wonderful player and he is improving. I am excited to

:46:34. > :46:37.play him. Thank you. SUE BARKER: Roger sounding so cool and calm. No

:46:38. > :46:42.one else on Centre Court feels like that. That has been a treat to

:46:43. > :46:45.watch. Everybody on their feet, saluting a great champion, not just

:46:46. > :46:54.a great champion but one of the great fighters. 2-1 down, and he has

:46:55. > :46:58.come back. What does that mean, I wonder? I am number one? He

:46:59. > :47:06.certainly is. The 10th time he has come back from two sets to one down,

:47:07. > :47:10.the champion with an eighth in his sights. He says that Marin is one of

:47:11. > :47:18.the nice guys on the tour and Marin Cilic must feel like he has missed

:47:19. > :47:20.his opportunity. Two sets to love up, against Federer, and he has

:47:21. > :47:24.played his part in this wonderful match. But Federer marches on, and

:47:25. > :47:28.what a treat to see this 34-year-old still at his best and still

:47:29. > :47:34.producing these magical matches. For all of us to enjoy. And we have

:47:35. > :47:42.heard that he is playing Milos Raonic, and this is only finished it

:47:43. > :47:45.off, absolutely delighted, a big serving jewel on Court Number One.

:47:46. > :47:48.Sam Querrey has had a wonderful tournament year, defeating Novak

:47:49. > :47:54.Djokavic, and he goes out in the quarterfinal stage. And it is Raonic

:47:55. > :48:00.who is through to the semifinal. Raonic against Federer will be

:48:01. > :48:04.something to look forward to. And this is the second quarterfinal on

:48:05. > :48:08.Court Number One. Tomas Berdych against Lucas Pouille, who is in his

:48:09. > :48:12.first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal. Very tight, three games all in the

:48:13. > :48:20.opening set. That matches on BBC Two. -- that match is on BBC Two. So

:48:21. > :48:23.much happening here. Everyone is going out for a breather but they

:48:24. > :48:28.better not be too long because coming up next on Centre Court, more

:48:29. > :48:29.athleticism, and a great variety of shots from two of the best on the

:48:30. > :49:15.surface. Yes, it is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga up

:49:16. > :49:19.against Andy Murray. Andy Murray has looked ruthless through the opening

:49:20. > :49:24.week of this tournament year at Wimbledon, yet to drop a set going

:49:25. > :49:26.into the last eight. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has come back through an

:49:27. > :49:31.absolute classic victory against John Isner, and he was a little bit

:49:32. > :49:35.weary, although he did is defeat Richard Gasquet when he was forced

:49:36. > :49:41.to withdraw. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against Murray next on Centre Court.

:49:42. > :49:47.Tim Henman, what a match. How does he do that? He looked down and out

:49:48. > :49:54.at two sets down. He certainly did. At 1240, Cilic was the better

:49:55. > :50:00.player. -- at 0-40. If anything, Federer was a bit flat. You almost

:50:01. > :50:03.sensed from the crowd's reaction that they wanted to see more tennis

:50:04. > :50:08.and he suddenly was able to hold serve. Then he broke in the next

:50:09. > :50:12.game and slowly started to turn it around but they both had problems.

:50:13. > :50:16.They were both grating a lot of opportunities, and I think there

:50:17. > :50:19.were 16 or 17 break points between them, but they only managed three

:50:20. > :50:24.breaks of serve. Federer maintained the belief that he could find a way

:50:25. > :50:29.to read through. Let's talk about the tie-break. Set point, match

:50:30. > :50:37.points all over the place. Is this what the tournament needed, a great

:50:38. > :50:42.match like that? Yes, and from Cilic's point of view, he did

:50:43. > :50:44.everything except win that match. He had match point opportunities, four

:50:45. > :50:48.second serves on those big points and he did not get the ball back in

:50:49. > :50:52.play. Those are the types of shots that he will be going over and over

:50:53. > :50:58.in his mind after the match coming up. He makes it look so easy at

:50:59. > :51:01.times, Federer, with his technique and movement but sometimes that

:51:02. > :51:05.overshadows his intensity and his will to win. And it really was the

:51:06. > :51:08.will to win that put him over the line because he was not playing

:51:09. > :51:16.particularly well. He got his level up there and he was able to find a

:51:17. > :51:20.way to win. The players are on their way into Centre Court. And here they

:51:21. > :51:38.come, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga coming out behind Andy Murray.

:51:39. > :51:45.I guess it was not quite the reception that they've expected but

:51:46. > :51:51.everyone after the Federer match has probably gone for a breather. David

:51:52. > :51:55.Beckham still there with his family. A big Andy Murray supporter. And he

:51:56. > :51:57.knows that Andy Murray has his work cut out against this man,

:51:58. > :52:01.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Murray against longer, that is the match here and I

:52:02. > :52:05.am delighted to say that another grand slam winner joins me on Centre

:52:06. > :52:11.Court, Lleyton Hewitt, welcome to the team. Great to be here. What do

:52:12. > :52:15.you make of that last match? I did not know how it was going to end.

:52:16. > :52:19.Everyone was pulling for Roger to get back into the match and in the

:52:20. > :52:23.end, it turned into an epic. I think it got better as the match went on.

:52:24. > :52:26.Federer freed up and you could see the belief in his eyes. Now he is

:52:27. > :52:30.through to another semi and who knows what is going to happen.

:52:31. > :52:35.Interesting that he said he could not read Cilic's served in the first

:52:36. > :52:40.two sets. And he was worried about his movement. But he looked as good

:52:41. > :52:46.as ever in that fifth set. There was a backhand pass in that fourth game

:52:47. > :52:49.which was vintage Federer. He has not played a lot of matches this

:52:50. > :52:54.year and a really good run here, he has given himself every chance. How

:52:55. > :52:57.exhausted will he be? I know he has day off but what he just went

:52:58. > :53:02.through is physically, mentally and emotionally draining. Yes, but he

:53:03. > :53:06.had a pretty comfortable draw coming in. He survived relatively easily in

:53:07. > :53:11.that first three or four matches and now he has put himself in a position

:53:12. > :53:14.of another semi final. Milos Raonic on the other side, it will be a

:53:15. > :53:21.similar battle. He will have to weather the storm and take the

:53:22. > :53:25.chances when he needs to. You know him so well, Tim. He raises his game

:53:26. > :53:30.when it matters. This is his home away from home. I think it is an

:53:31. > :53:34.interesting matchup in the next round because he will be fatigued.

:53:35. > :53:38.He has not had a massive amount of match time this year but when you're

:53:39. > :53:43.playing against someone like Raonic, the rallies will not be that long.

:53:44. > :53:49.He needs to use his skills in getting the ball back into play, but

:53:50. > :53:53.from Raonic's perspective, he has been playing very well in the final

:53:54. > :53:56.of Queen's. And outcomes Andy Murray to face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Andy has

:53:57. > :54:02.looked very good in this tournament so far. He has had a very good draw

:54:03. > :54:05.so far. The big test was against Nick Kyrgios and I think he

:54:06. > :54:09.weathered the storm. That really opened up throughout the second set

:54:10. > :54:12.and he took full advantage. He is playing great and moving grate. He

:54:13. > :54:16.is going to be very confident but this is another step up against a

:54:17. > :54:20.quality player with a lot of firepower. And he knows how to play

:54:21. > :54:24.on the surface. He moves extremely well. He has a big game and his

:54:25. > :54:29.serve and forehand, those will be his big weapons out there today, but

:54:30. > :54:33.he is not afraid to move in and take it to Andy. The big question is

:54:34. > :54:43.Andy's second serve and whether Tsonga can attack him. But he has

:54:44. > :54:49.improved, hasn't he? He has command under these conditions he can be

:54:50. > :54:52.aggressive. For me, Tsonga's strengths are his serve and

:54:53. > :54:56.forehand, and it is whether Andy can get into those rallies and target

:54:57. > :55:00.his backhand. That is definitely a weakness and the back-end is Andy's

:55:01. > :55:07.strength. Another grand slam winner joined us. You were not speechless

:55:08. > :55:12.after that, were you? As close to speechless as I will ever be. They

:55:13. > :55:17.do a lot of remakes in movies, the great escape with Steve McQueen, and

:55:18. > :55:21.I think we have seen the guy who is going to star in the next one. I

:55:22. > :55:27.cannot believe that Roger Federer won that match. Cilic was playing

:55:28. > :55:31.unbelievable tennis. How in the world did he figure out how to win?

:55:32. > :55:37.He had so many chances. But Roger Federer on the other side, 5-6,

:55:38. > :55:42.match point, and the tie-break, that is a killer. You have to love Roger

:55:43. > :55:49.that he is able to find a way to do that. And some of the winners he

:55:50. > :55:58.pulled off, it was Federer at his best. Cilic was hitting the ball and

:55:59. > :56:02.serving big, and he was going after it and moving forward. You had every

:56:03. > :56:07.reason to fear that it could be routine but then when he won the

:56:08. > :56:13.set, Cilic dug in and did a good job to get himself back in position. I

:56:14. > :56:16.cannot believe he won that match. We were saying we need a great match at

:56:17. > :56:21.this tournament. We did not have a great match, probably the greatest

:56:22. > :56:26.ever with everything surrounding it, all the drama. Absolutely, and Roger

:56:27. > :56:29.coming in so under done into this tournament, a few question marks

:56:30. > :56:34.over his body and how he would respond, that is the perfect answer

:56:35. > :56:38.right there. So now, Andy Murray, what happens? There is hardly any

:56:39. > :56:42.crowd here. It is difficult when you have an epic like that. Everybody

:56:43. > :56:48.needs a break. The players have gone to get a drink, the audience has

:56:49. > :56:51.gone to get some fresh air. You are expecting a big ovation when Andy

:56:52. > :56:55.Murray comes out but I am sure the crowd will get to their seats pretty

:56:56. > :57:03.quickly and get behind him. You are a committee member now. It's not my

:57:04. > :57:07.fault! Why don't they wait 20 or 30 minutes, give the crowd a chance to

:57:08. > :57:11.regroup? That was an incredible match and for the players it gives

:57:12. > :57:17.them an extra bit of time. Can I pass the buck? Is it to the

:57:18. > :57:20.television direction that they do not want to? We would definitely

:57:21. > :57:27.agree with that. It would give us time to look back at that match. And

:57:28. > :57:31.then it puts Andy Murray later into the evening, and it means he gets

:57:32. > :57:34.more exciting as people are coming home from work. Will you bring that

:57:35. > :57:42.up at the next committee meeting? I well. -- I will. We were talking

:57:43. > :57:48.about Tsonga's backhand, which might be a target for Murray in this one.

:57:49. > :57:55.I think it is. Jo is another guy, you do not know exactly what to

:57:56. > :58:00.expect. I saw him at the French, he came from two sets down against

:58:01. > :58:04.Baghdatis, and the next thing you know, he is up 5-2 and he defaults.

:58:05. > :58:13.He does not play any matches. The fact he beat is now the way that he

:58:14. > :58:17.did, the best thing, Richard Gasquet to default at 4-2, that was the best

:58:18. > :58:23.thing that could happen. At least his legs will be fresh and trust me,

:58:24. > :58:29.will need them. He needs to try to keep the rallies are short as

:58:30. > :58:32.possible. Obviously that 1-2 hit, he needs to really go forward when he

:58:33. > :58:36.has that opportunity. He needs to put pressure back on Andy. Because

:58:37. > :58:41.the more balls that Andy can get back in court, it is swinging in his

:58:42. > :58:46.advantage. He has a great volley and he loves to come forward. He has to

:58:47. > :58:52.try to do that today? He came from two sets to love down, against the

:58:53. > :59:00.man who just came from two sets to love down. I am surprised that he

:59:01. > :59:08.does not come in more because he is acrobatic and athletic and he likes

:59:09. > :59:13.to move forward. He has not had any success against Andy on grass, which

:59:14. > :59:16.is a bit surprising. You mentioned Andy's second serve, and it has

:59:17. > :59:21.improved but that is probably the only weakness in his game. At the

:59:22. > :59:25.moment. The Australian Open final this year, his forehand was a big

:59:26. > :59:29.weakness. He started attacking off his back and so much harder.

:59:30. > :59:32.Throughout this year, he has hit his forehand is extremely well,

:59:33. > :59:38.especially under pressure. Likes turning a lot of these matches into

:59:39. > :59:41.physical battles over five sets. He would back himself against nearly

:59:42. > :59:45.anyone. And it has only been Novak that has been able to stand up to

:59:46. > :59:50.them over five sets. You used to like a physical battle. But not

:59:51. > :59:52.always on my terms. Absolutely. But as far as Andy goes, his movement is

:59:53. > :00:03.so good. Just dwelling on the second serve,

:00:04. > :00:06.it will be the shortest ball you get against Murray because his ground

:00:07. > :00:11.strokes are so effective and he hits deep and hard. And when you move as

:00:12. > :00:15.well as he does, the opponent has to go closer and closer to the lines.

:00:16. > :00:19.When you are more aggressive and take more risks, you can make more

:00:20. > :00:23.unforced errors, so I don't think Tsonga can play a consistently high

:00:24. > :00:27.enough level to get through this match. We will have great rallies in

:00:28. > :00:32.this match, great tennis and shotmaking. That is for sure, this

:00:33. > :00:36.is a Wimbledon quarterfinal, Murray is playing the best tennis of his

:00:37. > :00:39.life, Tsonga has the greatest opportunity he has had for a while

:00:40. > :00:44.so hopefully they can both rise to the occasion in the way of the first

:00:45. > :00:50.match. It is going to be a hard call. If we do, John McEnroe might

:00:51. > :00:54.not be able to talk in the commentary! The players will have

:00:55. > :00:57.been lacing up their shoes at the end of the third set. That is one of

:00:58. > :01:01.the toughest things as a player, they would not know when they would

:01:02. > :01:04.be on Ulster but they are both experienced and have been around so

:01:05. > :01:08.they would quietly be getting ready but not preparing to much and they

:01:09. > :01:13.will be ready to go when the first ball is hit. It is great to talk to

:01:14. > :01:16.you, Lleyton Hewitt is going to the commentary box with John McEnroe to

:01:17. > :01:27.join Andrew Castle. All yours, Andy. COMMENTARY: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who

:01:28. > :01:32.played Richard Gasquet in the previous round against the world

:01:33. > :01:36.number two Andy Murray. He achieved Wimbledon success in 2013. The

:01:37. > :01:43.reignition of this relationship with Ivan Lendl has galvanised his game,

:01:44. > :01:46.the Queen's Club champion against twice Wimbledon semifinalist

:01:47. > :01:56.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. A match to savour. Looking forward to this one!

:01:57. > :02:08.Successive Wimbledon quarterfinals and he has only lost two, Andy

:02:09. > :02:11.Murray. Rafael Nadal in 2008, Grigor Dimitrov in 2013, the defending

:02:12. > :02:18.champion. The weather is good, no need for the roof. Tsonga won the

:02:19. > :02:23.toss and he elected to serve first, not a surprise.

:02:24. > :03:41.UMPIRE: First set, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to serve, ready. Play.

:03:42. > :03:47.This happened to Tsonga when he got to the semifinals of the French

:03:48. > :03:52.anti-played David The Rec, nobody was in the crowd. And he just

:03:53. > :03:55.absolutely was not there in the first set -- David Ferrer. I doubt

:03:56. > :04:01.it will affect Andy Murray in the same way. For a match of this

:04:02. > :04:07.magnitude to start with a crowd like this. What was the year he blew

:04:08. > :04:08.Federer off the court and he lost the David Ferrer, that was a

:04:09. > :04:29.surprise. They will be here. It has been the story of his career.

:04:30. > :04:32.He has had these flashes and moments of brilliance and he has not been

:04:33. > :04:47.able to keep it together all the time.

:04:48. > :04:56.And that will do nicely for Game one. He is off and running. So many

:04:57. > :05:01.Keys to this match, can Tsonga defend his backhand here and if he

:05:02. > :05:08.comes to the net, can he make it an effective enough volley? One of the

:05:09. > :05:14.finest with the lob of all time. Another one here, later on she

:05:15. > :05:20.would. I like his attitude against John Isner, he had a battle from

:05:21. > :05:24.behind and he stuck with it. In a different league, a different level.

:05:25. > :05:28.It showed you a lot about Jo-Wilfried's resolve right now and

:05:29. > :05:34.his intensity. I what of oxides to this match for him. -- a lot of

:05:35. > :06:23.oxides to this match for him. UMPIRE: Mr Murray challenging the

:06:24. > :06:30.call, write baseline. The ball was called out. Brush the right

:06:31. > :06:36.baseline. You are recently retired, I think! The guys, they always look

:06:37. > :06:41.up. Do you think if they look up, they should not be allowed a

:06:42. > :06:49.challenge? Yes, you are right, they should not. It is just a natural

:06:50. > :06:53.thing. I would just have love to see you playing with Hawk-Eye. I would

:06:54. > :07:14.have love that! It would have been less interesting!

:07:15. > :07:22.I would have directed my energies in a more positive way. I would not be

:07:23. > :07:32.in this booth! You retired three times. You kept coming back. I never

:07:33. > :07:40.retired. Hoping for that comeback! Wild card! It is 50-31 Murray's

:07:41. > :07:43.first service game, early pressure and only five minutes played --

:07:44. > :08:54.50-30. Three straight points, Murray gets

:08:55. > :09:03.out of the service game, at 1-1. We have got Lleyton Hewitt, we have to

:09:04. > :09:09.ask, Nick Kyrgios. Don't start that! You had your say last night and the

:09:10. > :09:16.day before! If you insist! Does he listen to you, Nick? We have open

:09:17. > :09:20.discussions about a lot of things. He is still young and he is still

:09:21. > :09:25.learning and he is mature and as he goes by. He knows that he has the

:09:26. > :09:32.make more commitment to the sport, the shore. But we all know how much

:09:33. > :10:07.flair and talent he does possess. -- the shore.

:10:08. > :10:12.Great construction from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the moment, quite clinical

:10:13. > :10:21.in his attack. He has got a big forehand. Excellent volleys. If I

:10:22. > :11:13.were around him, I would encourage him to move forward more often.

:11:14. > :11:21.Certainly the type of points that Murray would prefer to play. Tsonga

:11:22. > :11:26.is content to battle from the baseline. I don't think it will be a

:11:27. > :11:41.very long match if he continues with that game plan.

:11:42. > :11:49.I think that 1- to punch is the perfect play for Jo-Wilfried today,

:11:50. > :11:54.he has to look to take his opportunities. Good first serve into

:11:55. > :11:59.the court, using his big forehand. As John said, he is such a good

:12:00. > :12:07.athlete and not an easy guide to pass, all the lob so he does present

:12:08. > :12:56.a big problem for Andy at the net. -- and to lob.

:12:57. > :13:07.He rushed him out and he looks a bit tight and wound up. Flying at him at

:13:08. > :13:51.the moment. He needs a couple of easy first serves.

:13:52. > :14:29.He seems to have got something in his eye.

:14:30. > :14:38.Some Murray with an opportunity. They could water this court, that

:14:39. > :14:45.sounds strange, but it is dusty at the backhand they could do that

:14:46. > :14:49.after a five set match. -- at the back, and they could. One of the

:14:50. > :14:55.things that Tsonga has the worry about is how many returns of serve

:14:56. > :15:00.Andy Murray makes and throughout the tournament, he gets the ball back in

:15:01. > :15:08.play so much of the time. In fact, 82% of the time. On first serve and

:15:09. > :15:14.second. This is a tough thing to serve too, isn't it? Absolutely and

:15:15. > :15:16.that is why he is number two in the world, it is only himself and Novak

:15:17. > :15:20.Djokovic that do this so well and they keep mounting pressure the

:15:21. > :15:25.entire time. Even for the best service in the world, they have to

:15:26. > :15:29.the perfect first serve not to play another shot and get a cheap point

:15:30. > :15:38.even on the biggest points. I also think he has got more aggressive off

:15:39. > :15:42.the return. Which is something before Ivan Lendl coaches were

:15:43. > :15:47.pushing for. Now he is being more aggressive and he gets a good look

:15:48. > :15:51.at it and it is doubly dangerous. It is clear that Tsonga has to have a

:15:52. > :16:06.big serving day he wants to make this a real match. He is capable.

:16:07. > :16:13.The crowd starting to get back here. Plenty of empty seeds. -- empty

:16:14. > :16:41.chairs. Andy Murray describes Ivan Lendl is

:16:42. > :16:47.the best coach he has ever had. It is the relationship that bought the

:16:48. > :16:55.most fruit, certainly. Twice a finalist here in 1986 and 1987, Pat

:16:56. > :17:34.-- beating him in those finals. Nicholas Tsonga's coach. --

:17:35. > :17:37.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's coach. He has got empty seeds in his own box! Yes,

:17:38. > :18:04.that is not a good sign! A lot of people want to know who the

:18:05. > :18:11.gentleman is wearing the hat. That is David spearing. He is 78 years of

:18:12. > :18:15.age. He will thank us for this! The chief steward. Some call him King of

:18:16. > :18:19.Wimbledon and others Colonel Saunders. If you are in the box, you

:18:20. > :18:45.call him serve. -- serve. We are all coming to grips with what

:18:46. > :18:54.happened just a couple of minutes ago. Players included. Trying to

:18:55. > :19:02.settle into this. They thought they would be on two hours ago.

:19:03. > :19:07.UMPIRE: Let, first serve. I can show you Tsonga's serving

:19:08. > :19:15.patterns after this service game. Where he serves. I think Ivan Lendl

:19:16. > :19:19.showed him that before! There is definitely a pattern to it and so

:19:20. > :19:23.many statistics and numbers and graphics these days that you can

:19:24. > :19:26.look it all up. If you become predictable to a return up like

:19:27. > :19:47.Murray, there is going to be trouble.

:19:48. > :19:54.John, how much would you like Tsonga on that first serve on the serve and

:19:55. > :20:00.volley compare to the second serve, he hits and wait, against a good

:20:01. > :20:04.return player like Andy? It goes to what Andy was saying, he needs to

:20:05. > :20:12.keep him off balance and not be predictable. That is the last thing

:20:13. > :20:20.you want to do with Murray. He serves so big, he is going to

:20:21. > :20:32.need to come in. Most of the time, people only get the ball back.

:20:33. > :20:46.That is the first, and perfect, he has done it. Unbelievable lob.

:20:47. > :20:52.Coming in off a PC bold Don. Later on, you got -- later view it, you

:20:53. > :21:00.broke a lot of people like that. One. Each, Andy Murray is throwing

:21:01. > :21:56.it up, giving himself a half opportunity at 15-30.

:21:57. > :22:07.Yes. He has got the ball on a string and if you control the ball, you

:22:08. > :22:14.control your opponent. I certainly think that Tsonga would want to keep

:22:15. > :22:21.these points shorter. He appeared to have a couple of opportunities. I

:22:22. > :22:23.think he is going to win a very small percentage of points over ten

:22:24. > :22:39.shots. He certainly tightened up on that

:22:40. > :22:59.backhand. A great chance to get the early break.

:23:00. > :23:08.That is the serve. That took him to the 2008 Australian Open final. His

:23:09. > :23:10.only grand slam final appearance, and he beat Andy Murray in the first

:23:11. > :23:28.round of that. One of the only times he has beaten

:23:29. > :23:32.Andy Murray. It is not a good head-to-head, 12-2, Andy Murray.

:23:33. > :23:41.They have played 12 times on grass and Murray has won the lot. That is

:23:42. > :24:02.the only time he lost to a Frenchman in a grand slam.

:24:03. > :24:10.This is cumulative pressure when it you are serving to somebody like

:24:11. > :24:13.Murray, who makes, as we said, eight out of ten returns on break point

:24:14. > :24:39.up. That is the wi-fi pass code! Yes, it is another one! It is

:24:40. > :24:46.because Murray is returning. And in this quarterfinal, that man is

:24:47. > :24:50.leading 3-2 with a break, Murray. Sue Barker: Still struggling with

:24:51. > :24:56.his eye but he is a break of serve up on Centre Court. Back in just a

:24:57. > :25:00.moment. While Andy has broken serve on Centre Court, his brother Jamie

:25:01. > :25:05.is on Court 18 and struggling a bit in this match. A break of serve down

:25:06. > :25:12.in the fifth and final set. They have come back from 2-0 down and won

:25:13. > :25:18.the first set tie-break 13-11 but now working hard to find a way into

:25:19. > :25:23.the match. That is due to Murray and their father William as well. --

:25:24. > :25:32.Judy Murray. They watching Jamie and Andy has got Kim and Ivan Lendl so

:25:33. > :25:38.they are supporting Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares on 18. That is on the

:25:39. > :25:44.red button. And on BBC Two, it is Tomas Berdych in control, a set and

:25:45. > :25:49.3-0 against Lucas Pouille. Tomas Berdych in control.

:25:50. > :25:55.Back now to Centre Court. COMMENTARY: Seven the court, Andy

:25:56. > :26:01.Murray -- Centre Court and Andy Murray a break up against

:26:02. > :26:05.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He has not lost a set at this Championships yet. Not

:26:06. > :26:14.only that, he has not been taken to a tie-break either. Tsonga

:26:15. > :26:20.meanwhile, a couple of rounds ago, he laid John Isner and went to 19-17

:26:21. > :26:30.in the fifth and came back from two sets down debt she played. 3-2. --

:26:31. > :26:38.and he played. Not hitting the ball very cleanly, Tsonga, so far. A

:26:39. > :26:55.tough start for him. He has quickly got to block out of

:26:56. > :26:59.his mind the last three points of the previous game when he got broken

:27:00. > :27:04.and he tried a drop shot and two very bad double faults to lose

:27:05. > :27:23.serve. And it has continued here so far. Ellie Goulding.

:27:24. > :27:28.Ivan Lendl has been coming here a number of years and Jamie Delgado

:27:29. > :28:41.has played 23 championships. You would assume that is part of the

:28:42. > :29:23.game plan to try to take the second set early and to move in on it.

:29:24. > :29:31.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is happy to trade from the back of the court, 18

:29:32. > :29:35.shots, showing admirable patience. Not the type of rally you want to

:29:36. > :29:39.see him play against Murray, in his camp, and would not have thought. It

:29:40. > :30:26.is back to deuce. That is great defence from Murray.

:30:27. > :30:34.Wonderful fans from Tsonga. -- wonderful offence. It was a great

:30:35. > :30:41.forehand. Andy Murray dug it out. But Jo was sitting there to play the

:30:42. > :30:47.drop shot. Giving himself an opportunity to break straight back.

:30:48. > :31:00.A little distracted with that right eye at the moment.

:31:01. > :31:14.You will have to play another. The missing first serve. I think it will

:31:15. > :31:20.also help them win numerous additional majors in his career, the

:31:21. > :31:22.willingness to come forward. He has great hands. Soft hands. He does not

:31:23. > :31:49.use them nearly enough. The points that have become a

:31:50. > :31:55.contest in the last ten minutes or so, Murray has won many of them.

:31:56. > :31:58.What a great return of serve. Hard, flat and deep. Mourinho Lee had to

:31:59. > :32:01.sit on the baseline to play that shot. -- Murray had to sit on the

:32:02. > :32:29.baseline. Interesting that you should say he

:32:30. > :32:35.should volley more. You played Nadal in the semifinal. You didn't have to

:32:36. > :33:00.bring that up! There is more on Nick Kyrgios coming!

:33:01. > :33:07.Bitcoins, getting it back inside the lines. That is what has to happen if

:33:08. > :33:09.you are going to beat Murray. I'm surprised that he did not run around

:33:10. > :33:37.and hit a forehand. He has made a couple of loose

:33:38. > :34:14.forehand errors here. Trying to consolidate this break.

:34:15. > :34:25.A surprising mistake. He sprayed a couple long. I think this spotty

:34:26. > :34:28.play so far, a lot of it is due to the stress involved in waiting to

:34:29. > :34:32.get on the court, not knowing when you are going to play. These guys

:34:33. > :35:00.have not gotten their a game going yet.

:35:01. > :35:12.A devilish slice. It is not getting up off the rider more than three or

:35:13. > :35:17.four inches. I just think when Jo gets those opportunities, he has to

:35:18. > :35:22.be looking to get around and use his forehand. Even if it takes him out,

:35:23. > :35:31.he needs to try to be the aggressor in the point.

:35:32. > :35:42.Now that is the forehand were talking about. On this very court,

:35:43. > :35:49.that is what Joel used to smack Roger Federer write-off. And he can

:35:50. > :36:49.do that to anybody. He can turn the racket out of your hands.

:36:50. > :36:59.34 minutes played. It has been a bit of a battle. If Murray get out of

:37:00. > :37:08.this game, Jo Wilfred Tsonga will not fear all very good about this.

:37:09. > :37:14.-- will not feel very good. Definitely a battle won. Break

:37:15. > :37:17.points saved in the long game. Two doubles, to lose server.

:37:18. > :37:26.Disappointing. This could have eased the pain but now it has intensified

:37:27. > :38:34.ever so slightly. The battle from behind.

:38:35. > :38:41.Murray slipping at the back of the court in the dry, dusty area there.

:38:42. > :38:44.The second time this game that this has happened. He just got

:38:45. > :39:30.wrong-footed, going back behind him. We know of Murray's defensive skills

:39:31. > :39:36.but he has not really been able to unload or unleash yet. Not in the

:39:37. > :39:52.way we are used to. Nice to see the way Jo plays the game sometimes.

:39:53. > :40:03.UMPIRE: You balls, please. Murray into the second week of the

:40:04. > :40:06.Championships here. The first week was so much about the rain. But if

:40:07. > :40:14.you are lucky enough to come along to Wimbledon. If you want to look at

:40:15. > :40:20.the juniors doing their thing, the tennis foundation wheelchair tennis

:40:21. > :40:25.programme has a lot of tennis. Wheelchair tennis, you think it is

:40:26. > :40:30.wheelchair tennis but it is tennis and it happens to be in wheelchairs

:40:31. > :40:36.which makes it all the more congregated. Brilliant. And hello

:40:37. > :40:42.everybody out there. Hopefully enjoying this British performance

:40:43. > :40:49.against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Everybody is certainly enjoying

:40:50. > :40:56.watching Tsonga. You are talking about the folks on Henman Hill? You

:40:57. > :41:02.are too busy now, a superstar coach. I have a question for Lleyton,

:41:03. > :41:07.because you were a great return. Is it fair to say that you preferred a

:41:08. > :41:15.target? I didn't. But it was natural. Like Sampras or Ivanisevic

:41:16. > :41:24.Rusedski, those servers were serve and volley Inc. It seems that so

:41:25. > :41:27.many guys do that these days. I think the change-up is the biggest

:41:28. > :41:48.thing, just so they don't know exactly what is coming.

:41:49. > :41:54.Continuing to cause problems at the net. It is difficult for players who

:41:55. > :41:59.already have enough to deal with playing him. What he is capable of,

:42:00. > :42:25.he's going to be incredibly hard to beat.

:42:26. > :42:30.Interesting to see how he will handle this, the first time in his

:42:31. > :42:33.career that he's been in the second week of a Grand Slam. He has waited

:42:34. > :43:14.a long time for that. That is a heavy forehand from a low

:43:15. > :43:18.ball. Almost discouraging Tsonga. This was a great sliced backhand

:43:19. > :43:23.here. He kept it so low, just over the net that you could see the heady

:43:24. > :43:28.top from Andy Murray. He got down so well to it. The groundsman will be

:43:29. > :44:11.looking at that and thinking, ugh. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, being

:44:12. > :44:19.aggressive. It is a lot harder than he made it work. That was a great

:44:20. > :44:21.pass primary. And that is what will scare Tsonga. -- a great pass by

:44:22. > :44:42.Murray. An ideal point up until then. A well

:44:43. > :45:16.directed forehand. Another error on the forehand side.

:45:17. > :45:24.Not only did he get there and make the pass, but a break and it was a

:45:25. > :45:31.single hander. A glancing blow. And we're back on terms and Murray is

:45:32. > :45:35.having a bit of a ramp. You can understand his frustration. -- a bit

:45:36. > :45:40.of a rant. There was a time in his career where he really started to go

:45:41. > :45:50.for the one hand are quite often. A lovely glancing blow. -- the one

:45:51. > :45:55.hand. Most guys with a double handed backhand would have tried to chip

:45:56. > :46:02.that ball across in front of him but he tried the top spin, which ran

:46:03. > :46:16.away from him. If you can give it a chance to get back.

:46:17. > :46:19.He got burned early in the set with that lobby. It was not going to

:46:20. > :46:50.happen again. -- with that glob. Murray, slightly taller but Tsonga

:46:51. > :47:03.is a powerful guy. He is getting some serves into the 130s.

:47:04. > :48:33.This is the perfect game by Tsonga so far. After breaking straight

:48:34. > :48:37.back, to try to quickly hold here and put the pressure back on Andy

:48:38. > :49:57.Murray, serving to stay in the centre. -- stay in the set.

:49:58. > :50:03.Tsonga is completely charged up for this one and why not? Three straight

:50:04. > :50:11.games including a break of serve and two holds. He is now one ahead. 104

:50:12. > :50:20.wins in these Grand Slam championships, Grand Slam or majors.

:50:21. > :50:25.The Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the last French champion at

:50:26. > :50:34.Wimbledon. Petra, a prisoner of war, the won the first championship after

:50:35. > :50:38.the war. The first man to wear long trousers in a Wimbledon final in

:50:39. > :50:44.1946. I would have loved to have seen you wearing trousers like that.

:50:45. > :50:48.Yours were quite long anyway, Lleyton? They changed around my

:50:49. > :50:55.time. Tsonga has come right back into this. Is that surprised you? It

:50:56. > :50:59.has. There was a lapse of concentration by Andy. And Jo's

:51:00. > :51:03.energy looks great. Very positive going to the chair. Andy is going to

:51:04. > :51:13.have to dig deep to stay in this set. I saw his energy remain

:51:14. > :51:22.positive in that long fifth set. He was feeling good about himself. He

:51:23. > :51:26.used to come out well. He was not particularly hot at the start, that

:51:27. > :51:32.was obvious, but no Murray has been struggling. He needs to tap into

:51:33. > :52:29.that. There are some nervous people here on Centre Court.

:52:30. > :52:38.Not as comfortable as he normally is on the baseline. An opportunity for

:52:39. > :52:44.Murray to take it to Tsonga here. To find his rhythm again. He needs to

:52:45. > :53:14.start penetrating, hitting the ball flat with that forehand.

:53:15. > :53:22.Good positive self talk by there to Andy. He has not been in that

:53:23. > :53:25.situation throughout this championships so far. Fighting to

:53:26. > :53:45.stay in a set. He has been very comfortable in all his wins.

:53:46. > :53:50.Liam Broady, the British wild card in the first round, Jensen Lu, and

:53:51. > :54:13.Nick Kyrgios. -- Yen-Hsun Lu. Tsonga here is

:54:14. > :54:18.people saying that his backhand is his weaker side, and it is. He is

:54:19. > :54:45.expecting approaches to come that way.

:54:46. > :54:50.This is one of the problems of being as good as he is, people don't

:54:51. > :54:56.expect him, the favourite of the tournament, to make his way through.

:54:57. > :55:05.After what happened with that amazing Federer comeback. He looks a

:55:06. > :55:07.bit fatigued. Murray, trying to energise the audience and get them

:55:08. > :55:33.behind him. Settling down nicely in this first

:55:34. > :55:44.set, trying to get a lead. You feel like it is such an

:55:45. > :55:48.important set as well, because Tsonga has not had much success

:55:49. > :57:00.against Murray in the past, playing against a big crowd here as well.

:57:01. > :57:08.It looked like he was in a good position to hit that volley. 136mph

:57:09. > :57:17.first serve. That was the return. A little bit of good fortune. Never

:57:18. > :57:19.let the ball go that you could have a pretty easy hit that on an open

:57:20. > :57:38.court. This is heavy, heavy serving. It is

:57:39. > :57:43.not just about milage, it is muscle, the raw way the ball reacts on the

:57:44. > :57:44.surface. No shortage of muscle from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Spinning away

:57:45. > :58:30.from Murray there. Tsonga is tossing down some heat,

:58:31. > :58:35.blowing and off-speed curveball. And then the next serve will feel like

:58:36. > :58:40.it is coming at 150mph. It is such a heavy ball. I looked at some

:58:41. > :58:44.statistics before the match. I guess Lendl and Murray will have done

:58:45. > :58:51.their homework but Tsonga's serve placement, this is his first serve.

:58:52. > :58:56.You know what, sometimes you put your best effort in... But it is the

:58:57. > :59:02.big points, and it is about the patterns of serving. Even if you

:59:03. > :59:07.pick that up, you are not getting your play. But he mixed that up

:59:08. > :59:12.well. As John said, he served baked, sliding out wide to get the ace,

:59:13. > :59:17.then he went wide of the outside at 134, and normally you will pick up

:59:18. > :59:23.slower, instead of going down the tee. His serving has got better as

:59:24. > :59:27.the set has gone on. Just one lapse, hitting two double faults. Any

:59:28. > :59:31.disadvantage for Murray that Tsonga has gone the distance, coming back

:59:32. > :59:35.from two sets against Isner? Murray has not been pushed that far so far

:59:36. > :59:42.in this tournament. He has been pushed plenty of times this year. I

:59:43. > :59:46.don't think that is a factor. He knew he was in for a tough one. He

:59:47. > :59:58.had top matches at Queen's. He went past both of you come up

:59:59. > :00:14.with five titles. He certainly did! He went past me with number one!

:00:15. > :00:21.He has not been that involved so far in this set so this is a really

:00:22. > :00:33.critical set for Tsonga to win and take advantage of that. He hit the

:00:34. > :00:37.line and looked a little long. It seems to be an instantaneous

:00:38. > :00:40.challenge. Fergus Murphy is in the chair and he is quite a

:00:41. > :00:58.disciplinarian on the court. He is quite a stickler.

:00:59. > :01:08.Jo was a bit casual trying that chip lob. And the hitting that saliva

:01:09. > :01:14.second serve into the body and Jo not looking to get around and turn

:01:15. > :01:44.it into a forehand. -- slow second serve.

:01:45. > :01:55.Tie-break, it is. First time this Wimbledon for Andy Murray.

:01:56. > :02:34.UMPIRE: Both players have received one additional challenge.

:02:35. > :03:40.He is going for that top-spin lob now. So far denied the baseline. The

:03:41. > :04:07.chip comes in. It is a very tough shot to pull off.

:04:08. > :04:15.Jo had it on his racket. After hitting that the double faults to

:04:16. > :04:19.start this tie-break, he has looked to be very aggressive on the Andy

:04:20. > :04:42.Murray service points. Back on serve now.

:04:43. > :04:54.Murray just throws his head up and he says, you are joking! He has had

:04:55. > :05:13.one of the biggest and best backhands today.

:05:14. > :05:21.He will take those two. The pressure reverts to Murray now. He serves the

:05:22. > :06:15.next two points. A Muhammad Ali lookalike. God rest

:06:16. > :06:25.his soul. He is quite a character at times. I like to watch him. He seems

:06:26. > :06:32.to be enjoying himself out here today so far, but this set is far

:06:33. > :06:40.more important for him to win than it is for Murray. That was a brave

:06:41. > :06:47.second serve, Murray, going to the Tsonga forehand as well. 100 mph is

:06:48. > :06:52.pushing the envelope on second serves, Murray. We saw it earlier

:06:53. > :06:53.with Roger Federer going for big second serves at crucial moments.

:06:54. > :07:11.Courage. It is another moment of danger here

:07:12. > :07:16.for Britain's Andy Murray! Anything short to the Frenchman's should --

:07:17. > :07:53.forehand is getting the treatment. Fabulous! How is that for a poly is

:07:54. > :08:22.the mark -- a Boggy? Really tough shots. -- how is that for a volley?

:08:23. > :08:33.136 mph, the serve. Murray is like a goalkeeper stretching out.

:08:34. > :08:41.That guy is flying past most players on the tour but Andy Murray is so

:08:42. > :08:45.good and he makes you play that extra shot. Jo is going for a little

:08:46. > :09:35.too much on that forehand. Go on! What a point! One of the

:09:36. > :09:43.points of the tournament. It didn't go to Murray but you have to salute

:09:44. > :09:47.Tsonga. Wonderful, wonderful! I did not think he would win many of these

:09:48. > :09:54.rallies but what an amazing job here. He has got himself a couple of

:09:55. > :11:07.set points. What a return of serve the! And you

:11:08. > :11:13.know what? Credit Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, he absolutely went for it.

:11:14. > :11:22.All these guys say you can't serve and volley. It is not your

:11:23. > :11:39.shoelaces. -- it is on your shoelaces! He chose to do it there!

:11:40. > :11:47.Set point up on his own serve, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a moment ago. 42

:11:48. > :12:25.points he served, only the second serve and volley, that was.

:12:26. > :13:13.He would like that back! He played a classic tape break in the Davis Cup

:13:14. > :13:21.tie at Queen's club last year, just after Wimbledon, Murray won it.

:13:22. > :13:25.Sue Barker: We are coming to the end of our transmission here, this match

:13:26. > :13:32.is on BBC Two right now. We have 20 seconds to go to see that Andy has

:13:33. > :13:35.served that ace and goes up 8-7 in this tie-break so switch over now to

:13:36. > :13:40.BBC Two where this match will continue. The other News of the day,

:13:41. > :13:45.Roger Federer made an amazing comeback on Centre Court from two

:13:46. > :13:51.sets down to beat the Marin Cilic so he goes through to the semifinal,

:13:52. > :13:53.but to join Murray and Tsonga on BBC Two right now.
