0:00:02 > 0:00:03Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.

0:00:03 > 0:00:06On behalf of the All England Lawn Tennis Club,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08may I offer you a very warm welcome

0:00:08 > 0:00:11to the first day of The Championships 2016.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Wimbledon is unique.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18Wimbledon is extraordinary.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22For most, Wimbledon is the finest.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Game, set and match, Djokovic.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Serena Williams to serve.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34When you do come here, you are in the pursuit in greatness.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Because that's what Wimbledon is,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39it's about being the best in the world,

0:00:39 > 0:00:40it's about being the best of the best.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47I felt that I was more comfortable

0:00:47 > 0:00:50with everything on the court than the opponent.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53You just feel like this is my place, this is my home.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58I was a bit petrified, my legs were wobbly and shaky.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00The pressure seemed to be a lot greater here.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03But there's nothing like walking out on the Centre Court of Wimbledon,

0:01:03 > 0:01:04that's for sure.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Game, Murray!

0:01:15 > 0:01:20There was a lot at stake ahead of the 130th Wimbledon Championships.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24With a first Roland Garros victory fresh in his mind,

0:01:24 > 0:01:28a self-assured Novak Djokovic arrived at Wimbledon

0:01:28 > 0:01:31halfway to achieving the calendar year Grand Slam.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35The defending champion was seeking a third successive triumph,

0:01:35 > 0:01:39and fourth in all, at the All England Club.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43- DJOKOVIC:- The situation this year is quite different from previous years

0:01:43 > 0:01:46because I'm coming in with a Roland Garros title

0:01:46 > 0:01:50for the first time and that gives me, obviously, a lot of confidence.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52I'm at the peak of my career at the moment.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Hopefully, can still keep going.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56I see still a lot of room for improvement.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00You obviously will not know exactly how you feel

0:02:00 > 0:02:02until you start to play.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Three years have passed since a British man won Wimbledon.

0:02:10 > 0:02:15The 2013 champion, Andy Murray, has not won a Grand Slam title

0:02:15 > 0:02:18since he defeated Djokovic in straight sets.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Will his decision to rehire Ivan Lendl

0:02:21 > 0:02:24help to bring him a second Wimbledon title?

0:02:27 > 0:02:30- MURRAY:- The time that I spent with him beforehand was very good

0:02:30 > 0:02:35and I don't feel any added pressure working with him again.

0:02:35 > 0:02:36I think, you know,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38it gives actually a bit of extra confidence

0:02:38 > 0:02:41because I know the last time we worked together,

0:02:41 > 0:02:42it was very successful.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46I trust in what he says and enjoyed having him back as part of the team

0:02:46 > 0:02:49and hopefully, I can have a good run here.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58Canada's Milos Raonic had also recruited a renowned major winner

0:02:58 > 0:03:02to advise him on the fine art of grass-court tennis.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05- JOHN MCENROE:- This guy's got one of the biggest games in the sport

0:03:05 > 0:03:07and obviously, his serve is huge.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10And I think he's got some good skills at net.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13It's not like Milos Raonic is serving and volleying all the time,

0:03:13 > 0:03:14but he's doing it enough, I think.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17It's important to get in these great returners' heads

0:03:17 > 0:03:20that they're not quite sure what you're going to offer up.

0:03:21 > 0:03:2525 years ago, Germany's Michael Stich was the Wimbledon champion.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I think the mental part of those champions that have been there,

0:03:29 > 0:03:34that have experienced everything - loss, winning, big moments -

0:03:34 > 0:03:37I think that's what you can bring to the players and just tell them

0:03:37 > 0:03:40to really believe, and on grass, you have to take your chances, as well.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42It's not just like playing at the baseline,

0:03:42 > 0:03:44you have to be a little bit more flexible,

0:03:44 > 0:03:47a little bit more creative, and I think that's what all those guys -

0:03:47 > 0:03:48Boris, John, Ivan -

0:03:48 > 0:03:51I think that's what they have brought to that generation,

0:03:51 > 0:03:54to not just be fit and strong, they're all great tennis players,

0:03:54 > 0:03:56but just be a little bit more creative.

0:03:56 > 0:04:02In 1991, Stich beat Boris Becker on the world's greatest tennis stage.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Have a lovely day!

0:04:04 > 0:04:05Enjoy the sunshine.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08On day one of The Championships,

0:04:08 > 0:04:11the compatriots took their seats as Novak Djokovic

0:04:11 > 0:04:13began the defence of his title.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18This Centre Court is the only one in the world where you walk on

0:04:18 > 0:04:21as a player and you feel that 130 years of history,

0:04:21 > 0:04:24you feel like all the other players that have played there before,

0:04:24 > 0:04:26they have won the title, and you feel the Lavers,

0:04:26 > 0:04:29the Rosewalls, and all those guys and that is so special.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34The world number one had not lost a Grand Slam match

0:04:34 > 0:04:35in more than 12 months.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40So the task for the British wild card, James Ward,

0:04:40 > 0:04:44ranked 177 in the world, was formidable.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46Ready for play, first set, Novak Djokovic to serve.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51Game, Djokovic.

0:04:53 > 0:04:54Game, Djokovic.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57The Serb won the first nine games

0:04:57 > 0:05:00before his opponent featured on the scoreboard.

0:05:00 > 0:05:01CHEERING

0:05:02 > 0:05:06Djokovic closed out victory with an ace.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09Game, set and match, Djokovic.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14- DJOKOVIC:- The first part of the match was almost flawless,

0:05:14 > 0:05:17so I'm very pleased with the way I've started Wimbledon.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25There are far worse places to be stuck,

0:05:25 > 0:05:29but for almost a year, Serena Williams hadn't moved off 21 majors,

0:05:29 > 0:05:33losing the last two Grand Slam finals to first-time major winners.

0:05:35 > 0:05:40When I see her do really well, when she's at her best, there is a look,

0:05:40 > 0:05:44you know, the body language is there that looks like, "I'm ready,

0:05:44 > 0:05:45"I'm happy, I'm ready to go."

0:05:45 > 0:05:51I'm not seeing that and you need to be really together

0:05:51 > 0:05:54and happy enough on the court

0:05:54 > 0:05:57to make it happen. And if you're not, the other kids

0:05:57 > 0:06:00have played you a few times, the other players,

0:06:00 > 0:06:02they start to realise, "I have nothing to lose."

0:06:02 > 0:06:05It starts to become a problem but these players work hard.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12So, would the defending champion equal Steffi Graf's open-era record

0:06:12 > 0:06:15of 22 majors and achieve parity with the German

0:06:15 > 0:06:18on seven Wimbledon titles apiece?

0:06:18 > 0:06:21Serena Williams was taking inspiration from history.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25- SERENA:- When I'm walking down those corridors,

0:06:25 > 0:06:28you think of different moments that you've had

0:06:28 > 0:06:31and the different moments that you've won or didn't win.

0:06:32 > 0:06:36And I try not to focus on those moments because I try to create

0:06:36 > 0:06:38a new moment every time I walk out there.

0:06:42 > 0:06:46Day two, the defending champion brushed aside

0:06:46 > 0:06:49qualifier Amra Sadikovic from Switzerland,

0:06:49 > 0:06:52but as the 1999 champion Lindsay Davenport observed,

0:06:52 > 0:06:55Serena still had room to improve.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Game, set and match, Ms Williams!

0:07:08 > 0:07:11Next on court, an all-British affair.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Andy Murray, the second-best player in the world,

0:07:14 > 0:07:17faced his good friend Liam Broady.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Andy Murray to serve.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21Ready, play.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27He showed no mercy, with a match time of under two hours,

0:07:27 > 0:07:31prompting discussion of the so-called Lendl effect.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33Game, Murray.

0:07:38 > 0:07:43The Scot's uncompromising coach always stresses the importance

0:07:43 > 0:07:44of the big kill.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00Timing is everything in life,

0:08:00 > 0:08:03and Andy Murray's appeared to be ticking along perfectly.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08He had match point wrapped up just minutes before the heavens opened

0:08:08 > 0:08:10and play was suspended.

0:08:12 > 0:08:16The following day, while the rain dampened spirits outside,

0:08:16 > 0:08:19the crowds under the Centre Court roof were buoyed

0:08:19 > 0:08:21as Roger Federer began his second-round match.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27His opponent was ranked 772 in the world.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31The seven-time champion versus Marcus Willis,

0:08:31 > 0:08:33a tennis coach from Wokingham.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38It's all just been incredible and a bit of a blur!

0:08:42 > 0:08:43He makes you play his class.

0:08:43 > 0:08:45He put me under the cosh, he came out firing.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47Game, Federer.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49I played a good point, where I lobbed him,

0:08:49 > 0:08:50so I can say I lobbed Roger Federer!

0:08:52 > 0:08:55I did enjoy myself, even though I was getting duffed up.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58I loved every minute of it - well, not the duffing bit, but...

0:08:59 > 0:09:02I loved being there, I loved getting stuck in, fighting hard,

0:09:02 > 0:09:04the whole experience was incredible.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07Next up for the Briton, a club match in Coventry -

0:09:07 > 0:09:10which, by the way, he won.

0:09:13 > 0:09:17Garbine Muguruza offered a fine challenge to Serena Williams

0:09:17 > 0:09:20in the Wimbledon final in 2015.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23Her recent defeat of the world number one in Roland Garros

0:09:23 > 0:09:26has underlined her obvious star quality.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29A four-time major winner knows the path ahead

0:09:29 > 0:09:31will be paved with great expectations.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36Once you win once, then that's when you realise that everybody

0:09:36 > 0:09:39is going to think that you now have the pressure that you have

0:09:39 > 0:09:41to win more, so it's going to be very interesting to see

0:09:41 > 0:09:44how she handles that because now she is one of the favourites

0:09:44 > 0:09:47after Serena, to keep winning and doing well.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51After a close three-set contest in the first round

0:09:51 > 0:09:53against Italy's Camilla Giorgi,

0:09:53 > 0:09:57Muguruza struggled in round two against Slovakia's Jana Cepelova.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Game and first set, Miss Cepelova.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05The world number two had been outplayed by an opponent

0:10:05 > 0:10:08ranked 122 places behind her.

0:10:09 > 0:10:13The Spaniard appeared emotionally and physically defeated.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19Honestly for me, I just had it very clear

0:10:19 > 0:10:21that it was going to be a rough tournament for me

0:10:21 > 0:10:23after winning a Grand Slam and coming here.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27Everybody, like, looking at me but honestly, not really.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30I know all the matches are very tough,

0:10:30 > 0:10:32nothing's going to happen if I lose today.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34It's normal, it's part of the game.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38Hopefully, I lose less matches but there is not any drama.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43Stan Wawrinka's Wimbledon ambitions are such

0:10:43 > 0:10:46that he hired the 1996 champion Richard Krajicek

0:10:46 > 0:10:49as a grass-court consultant.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52When he hits a good shot, he does tend to come in after it,

0:10:52 > 0:10:56so not after the serve, but after maybe a good forehand or a backhand.

0:10:56 > 0:10:59Also, in that way, you put more pressure on your opponent.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01You make the court shorter for yourself

0:11:01 > 0:11:04but also put pressure and play a little mental game with him,

0:11:04 > 0:11:06so, hopefully, it will help him to better his best here,

0:11:06 > 0:11:09which is quarterfinals, but let's take it one match at a time.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11A tough one now against Del Potro.

0:11:13 > 0:11:18In round two, Wawrinka faced the big man from Argentina

0:11:18 > 0:11:19who was on the comeback trail.

0:11:20 > 0:11:24Juan Martin Del Potro had lost over two years out of the game

0:11:24 > 0:11:26with a wretched wrist injury.

0:11:27 > 0:11:3020 years ago, Krajicek's firepower

0:11:30 > 0:11:34had ended Pete Sampras' three-year unbeaten stretch at Wimbledon.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37In 2016, Wawrinka was not faring so well.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41The former US Open champion rolled back the years

0:11:41 > 0:11:43to end the challenge of the number four seed.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45Game, set and match, Del Potro.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49Ladies and gentlemen, play is suspended.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52While the rain wreaked havoc with many matches on day five,

0:11:52 > 0:11:5536-year-old Venus Williams and her sister Serena

0:11:55 > 0:11:58tiptoed their way past stubborn younger opponents.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02On Court One,

0:12:02 > 0:12:06Venus faced 19-year-old Daria Kasatkina from Russia.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13They walked on and off court multiple times,

0:12:13 > 0:12:15even after a downpour,

0:12:15 > 0:12:19when the five-time champion was at match point in the third set.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22When play resumed, she lost that match point,

0:12:22 > 0:12:24but clung on to win 10-8 in the decider.

0:12:26 > 0:12:30Meanwhile, under the protection of Centre Court's retractable roof,

0:12:30 > 0:12:34younger sister Serena came through a tense, emotional match

0:12:34 > 0:12:38in which her mood was often as dark as the threatening skies outside.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43She clawed her way to survival

0:12:43 > 0:12:46to defeat her compatriot Christina McHale.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55Game, set and match...

0:12:55 > 0:12:59Afterwards, the defending champion described her warrior mode

0:12:59 > 0:13:01as "playing for my life".

0:13:05 > 0:13:08Djokovic had a fight on his hands.

0:13:08 > 0:13:13On day six, he returned to the All England Club two sets down

0:13:13 > 0:13:15against the big-hitting American Sam Querrey

0:13:15 > 0:13:20after their match was suspended on Friday when the heavens intervened.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Ladies and gentlemen, play is suspended.

0:13:23 > 0:13:27There were echoes of Djokovic's trial against another huge server,

0:13:27 > 0:13:30South Africa's Kevin Anderson, in 2015,

0:13:30 > 0:13:34in a match which required him to fight back from two sets down.

0:13:35 > 0:13:40Querrey had overwhelmed his opponent in the opening two sets.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43On the resumption, Djokovic took the third with ease.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46Would the Serb's recovery continue?

0:13:46 > 0:13:49The charging American demonstrated there was more to his game

0:13:49 > 0:13:50than pure firepower.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00When defending his title in 1987,

0:14:00 > 0:14:04Boris Becker lost to the unseeded Australian Peter Doohan.

0:14:04 > 0:14:08His charge had won 16 consecutive matches at the All England Club.

0:14:08 > 0:14:12It seemed this was being brought to a stunning end by a player

0:14:12 > 0:14:14who had never reached a major quarterfinal.

0:14:29 > 0:14:33In a match frustratingly played out over five rain-interrupted chapters,

0:14:33 > 0:14:37it was the 6'6" laid-back American who held his nerve

0:14:37 > 0:14:41to triumph over the holder of all four major titles.

0:14:56 > 0:15:01Just congratulations to Sam, he played a terrific match.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04He serves very well, as he usually does,

0:15:04 > 0:15:09and I think that part of his game was brutal today.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Well done, he just overpowered me.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14- QUERREY:- He made me earn it, he is not a guy that goes away.

0:15:14 > 0:15:19He came out and made me win those big points and, you know,

0:15:19 > 0:15:20probably not the best he's ever played,

0:15:20 > 0:15:22but not the worst he's ever played.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26You know, he's still number one in the world and the best out there,

0:15:26 > 0:15:28so he'll move forward.

0:15:28 > 0:15:31I saw you practising this morning on Court 14

0:15:31 > 0:15:33and you didn't seem yourself.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36What were you thinking this morning?

0:15:36 > 0:15:39I just said, I don't want to talk about it.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41The world number one's 30-match winning streak

0:15:41 > 0:15:43at the majors was over,

0:15:43 > 0:15:47as well as any chance of a calendar year Grand Slam.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50I think Novak was in a place nobody's been, really,

0:15:50 > 0:15:51since Rod Laver in '69.

0:15:51 > 0:15:55You can compare his dominance to Pete Sampras and Roger Federer

0:15:55 > 0:15:57in recent years, but those guys didn't have all four slams

0:15:57 > 0:15:58at the same time.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00The way he's succeeded in recent years

0:16:00 > 0:16:01is by changing the paradigm a bit.

0:16:01 > 0:16:03Being able to recover, re-centre,

0:16:03 > 0:16:06get through tough matches, and he's had a few.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09And so, I think, in that sense, nobody expected him to lose.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17Andy Murray was the runner-up to Djokovic at the Australian Open

0:16:17 > 0:16:19and Roland Garros this year.

0:16:19 > 0:16:23During a rain-interrupted match against the Australian John Millman,

0:16:23 > 0:16:26he received confirmation there would be no repeat of that result

0:16:26 > 0:16:28in eight days' time.

0:16:32 > 0:16:36The announcement did not disrupt the second seed, who made it through

0:16:36 > 0:16:39to the fourth round without the loss of a set.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44What happened to Novak today is irrelevant to me

0:16:44 > 0:16:48during today's match. I need to win my match today,

0:16:48 > 0:16:50and I did a good job of that.

0:16:53 > 0:16:57Middle Saturday at The Championships is traditionally the day when

0:16:57 > 0:16:59the Royal Box is full of sporting legends.

0:16:59 > 0:17:03A three-times Wimbledon singles champion took time off from

0:17:03 > 0:17:07commentary duties to take his reserved seat for the first time.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10Well, I had been up there a couple of times picking up a doubles trophy

0:17:10 > 0:17:12but never to actually sit and watch a match.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16Sitting next to Billie Jean King, I got the running commentary

0:17:16 > 0:17:18that I was missing by not doing the match myself.

0:17:20 > 0:17:24John McEnroe enjoyed a brilliant performance from the Romanian

0:17:24 > 0:17:26Simona Halep, seeded five,

0:17:26 > 0:17:29who progressed through to the second week together with third and fourth

0:17:29 > 0:17:33seeds Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber.

0:17:36 > 0:17:40After a maddening week of wet weather and interminable rain delays

0:17:40 > 0:17:43causing a backlog of matches, the All-England Club decided

0:17:43 > 0:17:46play would take place on Middle Sunday

0:17:46 > 0:17:49for only the fourth time in the history of The Championships.

0:17:54 > 0:17:56On behalf of the All England Lawn Tennis Club,

0:17:56 > 0:17:59may I offer you a very warm welcome to Middle Sunday of

0:17:59 > 0:18:01The Championships, 2016.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06It had been a quarter of a century since the Club had first thrown

0:18:06 > 0:18:09its doors open on its traditional rest day.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12On a first-come, first-served basis,

0:18:12 > 0:18:1522,000 tickets were sold online in 27 minutes.

0:18:17 > 0:18:20It would be fantastic if we get all the matches played today, because

0:18:20 > 0:18:23if we do, we will be on schedule, and that will be a great relief

0:18:23 > 0:18:27not just to the referee, but to organisers behind the scenes.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29If we get a full day's play today, I am sure there will be

0:18:29 > 0:18:31a great atmosphere and we will be back on schedule,

0:18:31 > 0:18:33and it makes Middle Sunday well worthwhile.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38Matches began at 11:30am on Centre Court.

0:18:38 > 0:18:40Time.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44Italy's Roberta Vinci and Coco Vandeweghe from the United States

0:18:44 > 0:18:46kicked off proceedings.

0:18:51 > 0:18:56Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had never lost a five-set match at Wimbledon.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59He fought his heart out against the record-breaking marathon man

0:18:59 > 0:19:03John Isner to continue his unblemished run.

0:19:03 > 0:19:07The Frenchman survived a match point at 15-16 in the final set,

0:19:07 > 0:19:09before beating the American 19-17.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15After the shock departure of Djokovic, Serena Williams'

0:19:15 > 0:19:18continued journey at The Championships was no surprise.

0:19:20 > 0:19:24She recorded her 300th Grand Slam match win on the eve of her

0:19:24 > 0:19:27300th overall week as the world number one.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Tomas Berdych faced a German teenager hailed as the future

0:19:35 > 0:19:39of men's tennis. 19-year-old Alexander Zverev

0:19:39 > 0:19:44defeated Roger Federer in Halle in preparation for The Championships.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46But the big Czech was in supreme form,

0:19:46 > 0:19:48and clinched his place in the fourth round.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58Good effort, Whiley. That's it, put it away.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01Well done, Whiley.

0:20:01 > 0:20:06Jordanne Whiley is Britain's most successful female wheelchair player.

0:20:07 > 0:20:11The world number three has won six Grand Slam doubles titles with her

0:20:11 > 0:20:15partner, Yui Kamiji, from Japan, and is the defending US Open

0:20:15 > 0:20:17singles champion.

0:20:19 > 0:20:23I wanted to actually be a coroner, so I was studying forensic science

0:20:23 > 0:20:27at college, and it wasn't until I got back from Beijing when I

0:20:27 > 0:20:30had to make the decision to quit academic studies or go on to be

0:20:30 > 0:20:33a professional tennis player, because I couldn't keep up both,

0:20:33 > 0:20:35so I made the decision to do tennis.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41Wheelchair tennis has been played at The Championships since 2001.

0:20:43 > 0:20:47We've had the wheelchair doubles event, which has grown in popularity

0:20:47 > 0:20:51with the players and spectators, and really, being an Olympic year

0:20:51 > 0:20:55as well, it was a good opportunity now to expand that

0:20:55 > 0:20:57into a singles event.

0:20:59 > 0:21:03Number eight will be Jordanne Whiley from Great Britain.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09Wimbledon is really special for us - to be able to showcase our sport

0:21:09 > 0:21:14to the highest level in the singles event is just absolutely fantastic.

0:21:14 > 0:21:15I'm here to win.

0:21:17 > 0:21:19Before the wheelchair competition started,

0:21:19 > 0:21:22the quarterfinals took centre stage.

0:21:24 > 0:21:29Venus and Serena Williams were on the bill, 16 years after they first

0:21:29 > 0:21:33achieved the feat. They faced Yaroslava Shvedova

0:21:33 > 0:21:36and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova respectively.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41Simona Halep was drawn against Angelique Kerber,

0:21:41 > 0:21:45and Dominika Cibulkova, who beat Aga Radwanska,

0:21:45 > 0:21:47faced Elena Vesnina.

0:21:48 > 0:21:50- Out! - Game, set, and match, Miss Kerber.

0:21:50 > 0:21:52Game, set, and match, Ms Williams.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54Game, set, and match, Ms Vesnina.

0:21:56 > 0:21:59Game, set, and match, Miss Williams.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02Could the Williams sisters roll back the years?

0:22:02 > 0:22:05Kerber and Vesnina would have to halt their progress.

0:22:07 > 0:22:12The last time Marin Cilic played Roger Federer, in the 2014 US Open,

0:22:12 > 0:22:16the 17-times major winner recalled he had been brushed off the court

0:22:16 > 0:22:20in straight sets. It was men's quarterfinals day

0:22:20 > 0:22:24at The Championships, and the seven-times champion was losing

0:22:24 > 0:22:27two sets to love, and faced two break points

0:22:27 > 0:22:29against an inspired opponent.

0:22:43 > 0:22:47But this was Wimbledon Centre Court. This was Federer's domain.

0:22:56 > 0:22:57Game, Federer.

0:23:00 > 0:23:04Cilic was broken in the next game, and Federer served for the set.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20With Djokovic on the sidelines, this may have been

0:23:20 > 0:23:24Federer's last realistic chance of winning another major title.

0:23:24 > 0:23:27In the tenth game, Cilic sniffed a decisive opportunity.

0:23:35 > 0:23:39He was one point away from ending Federer's dream of

0:23:39 > 0:23:40a record eighth Wimbledon title.

0:24:03 > 0:24:07As well as Cilic played, he couldn't make the decisive kill.

0:24:07 > 0:24:09He couldn't win THE point.

0:24:19 > 0:24:235-5. The world number three's Wimbledon hopes were still alive.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29But the following game, Federer stumbled once more.

0:24:29 > 0:24:32Cilic reached a second match point.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35Could the Swiss maestro serve up something really special?

0:24:57 > 0:24:59Advantage, Federer.

0:25:08 > 0:25:12Federer had pulled off the great escape on Centre Court in 2010,

0:25:12 > 0:25:16against Alejandro Falla, and in 2012 versus Julien Benneteau,

0:25:16 > 0:25:21but Cilic reached 7-6 in the tie-break - his third match point.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38The Croatian had been hitting winners for most of the match,

0:25:38 > 0:25:41but again, he couldn't return a second serve.

0:25:43 > 0:25:457-7.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00Federer earned his first set point.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17It was Cilic's time to hold on.

0:26:17 > 0:26:21At 10-9, Federer had another chance to level the match.

0:26:31 > 0:26:35Game, and fourth set, Federer. Seven games to six. Two sets all.

0:26:35 > 0:26:38From then on, he never trailed.

0:26:41 > 0:26:46Of his 27 aces, 14 came in the final two sets.

0:26:49 > 0:26:51Game, set, and match...

0:26:51 > 0:26:52Make that 15.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57It was one of the greatest Wimbledon comebacks.

0:26:57 > 0:27:02Roger Federer had reached his 11th semifinal at the All England Club.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06At no stage did Federer panic.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08He knew he was up against it.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10When you are down match point at 4-5, 5-6,

0:27:10 > 0:27:14and in the fourth-set tie-break, you are having to roll the dice.

0:27:14 > 0:27:18But to come through a five-set epic like this, he will have a day off

0:27:18 > 0:27:21to recover, and it will be interesting to see how he responds

0:27:21 > 0:27:23in the semifinals.

0:27:24 > 0:27:25It was an emotional win.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27Always when you come back from two sets to love,

0:27:27 > 0:27:31but because of the season that I've had, it's wonderful, and

0:27:31 > 0:27:35this one is definitely huge, because it's Centre Court at Wimbledon.

0:27:38 > 0:27:42Without a coach or a grass-court win ahead of The Championships,

0:27:42 > 0:27:46Tomas Berdych ended the run of the Frenchman Lucas Pouille to reach the

0:27:46 > 0:27:48last four for a second time.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55Milos Raonic beat Sam Querrey.

0:27:55 > 0:27:59Big serves were expected to feature, but the Canadian also served up

0:27:59 > 0:28:02an impressive display of attacking net play.

0:28:09 > 0:28:13Andy Murray had been sailing through the draw without dropping a set.

0:28:13 > 0:28:16He played extremely well when he had to,

0:28:16 > 0:28:18but he did not have to very often.

0:28:20 > 0:28:24Then he ran into Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Set point to the Frenchman.

0:28:34 > 0:28:356-6.

0:28:38 > 0:28:408-7.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55A first set point slipped through Murray's hands.

0:28:55 > 0:28:57A second and third followed.

0:28:57 > 0:28:58He earned a fourth.

0:29:17 > 0:29:21After 76 minutes, the second seed was a set to the good.

0:29:23 > 0:29:27Murray ran away with the second in just 26 minutes.

0:29:27 > 0:29:29Game, Murray.

0:29:29 > 0:29:30Game, Murray.

0:29:30 > 0:29:32Game, and second set, Murray.

0:29:32 > 0:29:35Did Tsonga have the powers of recovery?

0:29:37 > 0:29:38Game, Tsonga.

0:29:38 > 0:29:41The Frenchman had beaten Murray on two occasions

0:29:41 > 0:29:45in 14 previous meetings. Taking the third set,

0:29:45 > 0:29:48he seemed recharged, and was raring to go in the fourth.

0:29:55 > 0:29:57Game, Tsonga.

0:29:57 > 0:29:59Twice, he was broken by his nemesis.

0:29:59 > 0:30:01Twice, he broke back.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04In the ninth game, he drilled a backhand -

0:30:04 > 0:30:09that famously unreliable backhand - and passed a charging opponent.

0:30:10 > 0:30:14He served out to force the match to a fifth set.

0:30:16 > 0:30:19Game, and fourth set, Tsonga.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23But that was when the 2013 champion took charge,

0:30:23 > 0:30:25breaking Tsonga at the first opportunity.

0:30:26 > 0:30:30The crowd loves a good five-set rollercoaster ride,

0:30:30 > 0:30:32and roar their approval, as their man took command.

0:30:37 > 0:30:39Game, Murray.

0:30:39 > 0:30:42Murray served for a place in the semifinals

0:30:42 > 0:30:45for a seventh time at SW19.

0:30:54 > 0:30:56Game, set, and match, Murray.

0:30:58 > 0:31:02You know, today was a tough match, but, you know, it would have

0:31:02 > 0:31:07been easy to have gone very down on myself in that fifth set after,

0:31:07 > 0:31:09you know, the way the fourth set ended.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13It definitely tested a lot today, and it was probably the

0:31:13 > 0:31:18hardest match to come through, so I'm hoping that it helps me

0:31:18 > 0:31:20the next couple of rounds.

0:31:23 > 0:31:26The weather at Wimbledon had been cool and calm for much of the second

0:31:26 > 0:31:30week of The Championships, but Serena Williams blew away

0:31:30 > 0:31:37Elena Vesnina in only 48 minutes in the first of the women's semifinals.

0:31:37 > 0:31:38Game, set, and match, Miss Williams.

0:31:38 > 0:31:43She moved one match closer to Steffi Graf's tally of 22 major titles.

0:31:45 > 0:31:49Angelique Kerber had long admired her idol, Graf, and now had a chance

0:31:49 > 0:31:54to emulate her. 20 years had passed since the German last lifted

0:31:54 > 0:31:59the Venus Rosewater Dish. Kerber defeated Venus Williams,

0:31:59 > 0:32:02and advanced to her second Grand Slam final.

0:32:15 > 0:32:20In Australia, she outclassed Serena Williams in a magnificent display of

0:32:20 > 0:32:25hard-court tennis, but this finale would be a different encounter,

0:32:25 > 0:32:27played on a surface favoured by the American.

0:32:27 > 0:32:31I will try to go out there like in Australia to believe in myself going

0:32:31 > 0:32:34out there and trying to play my game.

0:32:34 > 0:32:37I know that I have to play my best tennis to beat Serena,

0:32:37 > 0:32:39especially here in Wimbledon.

0:32:42 > 0:32:45Day 11. A seven-time champion and the home favourite would play

0:32:45 > 0:32:47back-to-back on the Centre Court.

0:32:47 > 0:32:51What could they conjure up in the semifinals?

0:32:51 > 0:32:53It was pretty magical.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55First of all, any time you have Roger Federer and Andy Murray

0:32:55 > 0:32:57playing back-to-back on Centre Court,

0:32:57 > 0:32:59it's going to be a great day for the fans.

0:32:59 > 0:33:03I think there hasn't been much of a question about Federer's skills.

0:33:03 > 0:33:06The question has been more about his body, and I think he had as many

0:33:06 > 0:33:10questions as we did, and I think he answered a lot of those questions.

0:33:10 > 0:33:12He didn't know the answers in the way that we didn't either until

0:33:12 > 0:33:15he got through that match.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18For Andy, bringing Lendl back into the camp helps him

0:33:18 > 0:33:19in a couple of ways.

0:33:19 > 0:33:23One, I think it silences a lot of the negativity that he tends to show

0:33:23 > 0:33:26on the court, he's less apt to talk negatively when Ivan is up there,

0:33:26 > 0:33:28which is a good thing for Andy.

0:33:28 > 0:33:30He's better off channelling that energy elsewhere.

0:33:30 > 0:33:34The second thing is his forehand is more aggressive when Ivan is in the

0:33:34 > 0:33:38camp. Ivan seems to enforce that aggression from Andy and that forces

0:33:38 > 0:33:42him to be a better player, and with Novak out of the way,

0:33:42 > 0:33:45I certainly think he has a great look at The Championship.

0:33:48 > 0:33:52As Roger Federer walked onto Centre Court to play his

0:33:52 > 0:33:5640th Grand Slam semifinal, the Swiss would have history - and the crowd -

0:33:56 > 0:33:58overwhelmingly in his favour.

0:34:05 > 0:34:10Two years ago, Federer dismantled Milos Raonic at the same stage

0:34:10 > 0:34:11of The Championships.

0:34:11 > 0:34:15At one set apiece, the Canadian was under pressure on his serve.

0:34:19 > 0:34:20Game, Federer.

0:34:20 > 0:34:23Two games later, the third seed took command.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27Game, and first set, Federer.

0:34:28 > 0:34:32It is the first time since 2000 Federer hasn't won a title

0:34:32 > 0:34:36before Wimbledon, but coming back from three match points

0:34:36 > 0:34:39against Cilic was a very good indicator where his game was at.

0:34:42 > 0:34:45Ahead of the match, Raonic said he would strive to take away rhythm

0:34:45 > 0:34:47and timing from his opponent.

0:34:47 > 0:34:51When Federer seemingly looked in control late in the fourth,

0:34:51 > 0:34:53the pattern began to change.

0:35:09 > 0:35:11Game, Raonic.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14Federer, 5-6 down, but 40-0 up.

0:35:19 > 0:35:2040-15.

0:35:25 > 0:35:2740-30.

0:35:29 > 0:35:30Deuce.

0:35:30 > 0:35:34A series of service errors stacked up,

0:35:34 > 0:35:36then a net-rushing Raonic turned the screw.

0:35:47 > 0:35:49Advantage, Raonic.

0:35:59 > 0:36:01Federer found some answers.

0:36:02 > 0:36:03Deuce.

0:36:05 > 0:36:06Advantage, Federer.

0:36:15 > 0:36:19But Raonic returned with interest, and one point later,

0:36:19 > 0:36:22a drilled backhand pass sent the match into a decider.

0:36:25 > 0:36:28Game, and fourth set, Raonic.

0:36:28 > 0:36:32It appeared Federer's fourth set disaster was playing on his mind.

0:36:32 > 0:36:35If he recalled last year's semifinal against Andy Murray,

0:36:35 > 0:36:39he would have remembered a flawless performance.

0:36:39 > 0:36:43This time, he simply couldn't cross the finish line, in a match where

0:36:43 > 0:36:45he had largely been the better player.

0:36:54 > 0:36:57Raonic had a break point in the fourth game.

0:36:59 > 0:37:03The intensity of the battle required an extraordinary moment

0:37:03 > 0:37:05to break the deadlock.

0:37:13 > 0:37:15Game, Raonic.

0:37:16 > 0:37:19Four games later, victory was just a point away.

0:37:26 > 0:37:27Game, set, and match, Raonic.

0:37:27 > 0:37:31Milos Raonic had reached his first major final.

0:37:32 > 0:37:36After ten previous successes, Roger Federer had lost in

0:37:36 > 0:37:40a semifinal at the All England Club for the first time.

0:37:41 > 0:37:43You're playing who Roger is today,

0:37:43 > 0:37:46not who he's been the past few years.

0:37:46 > 0:37:50So you try to focus in on that and on what you need to do

0:37:50 > 0:37:53and try not to spend too much time and attention thinking about him,

0:37:53 > 0:37:57because especially for myself, I got to always worry about myself first.

0:37:59 > 0:38:03It goes both ways. I feel I lost it and he won it, for sure.

0:38:03 > 0:38:07It's one that clearly hurts, because I felt that

0:38:07 > 0:38:11I could have had it. So close. It was really so, so close.

0:38:11 > 0:38:13I did a lot of things well.

0:38:13 > 0:38:16The attitude got me in the match and I think that's what made the biggest

0:38:16 > 0:38:18difference. I was quite vocal, but I was always positive,

0:38:18 > 0:38:20and I was always looking for a solution.

0:38:24 > 0:38:28Net play appeared to be the order of the day for Tomas Berdych

0:38:28 > 0:38:31ahead of his semifinal against Andy Murray -

0:38:31 > 0:38:35a good strategy for a player heavily reliant on thundering groundstrokes.

0:38:38 > 0:38:40Murray, the clear favourite,

0:38:40 > 0:38:44had allowed Berdych just one set in their last four encounters.

0:38:50 > 0:38:53Game, and first set, Murray.

0:38:53 > 0:38:56The Scot was ruthlessly efficient in the first set.

0:38:58 > 0:39:00In the second, the pattern continued.

0:39:11 > 0:39:15The Czech followed up his powerful groundstrokes with frequent dashes

0:39:15 > 0:39:17to the net, but they were rarely effective.

0:39:30 > 0:39:32Game, and second set, Murray.

0:39:46 > 0:39:50Mission accomplished, Murray would face a Canadian Grand Slam debutante

0:39:50 > 0:39:55in the final, rather than a serial major winner from Serbia.

0:39:55 > 0:39:58I thought I played pretty... pretty good today.

0:39:58 > 0:40:02I didn't give up too many errors, made it very difficult for Tomas.

0:40:02 > 0:40:06I never take it for granted, I know how difficult it is to make

0:40:06 > 0:40:09the final of these events, and how hard they are to win.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16Could 34-year-old Serena Williams

0:40:16 > 0:40:21level Steffi Graf's open era record 22 Grand Slam titles?

0:40:21 > 0:40:25Could she grasp the Venus Rosewater Dish for a seventh time?

0:40:25 > 0:40:28A nine-time champion knows how with age the bar is raised

0:40:28 > 0:40:30higher and higher.

0:40:30 > 0:40:33The pressure definitely builds as you get older,

0:40:33 > 0:40:37and also the sport just means more, so the wins are greater,

0:40:37 > 0:40:40but the losses are greater and you have that much more on the line.

0:40:40 > 0:40:42You saw it with Roger Federer.

0:40:42 > 0:40:45You know, he got nervous and

0:40:45 > 0:40:47we all do because we care so much

0:40:47 > 0:40:50that it can get in the way sometimes.

0:40:50 > 0:40:53So that's what makes Serena's winning in her 30s that much

0:40:53 > 0:40:58more amazing - that she's won, I think, nine Grand Slam titles

0:40:58 > 0:41:00after the age of 30. That's ridiculous, really.

0:41:02 > 0:41:03In 2016,

0:41:03 > 0:41:0828-year-old Angelique Kerber joined that elite group of major winners.

0:41:09 > 0:41:11Physical athletes are a dime a dozen.

0:41:11 > 0:41:14What people don't realise is it's the heart and the mind, you know,

0:41:14 > 0:41:16and the emotional aspect of a person that makes the difference.

0:41:18 > 0:41:21What makes a great, great champion is having their head,

0:41:21 > 0:41:24heart, and their guts. When they have all three working together.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27The great ones have the three out of three, just constantly.

0:41:27 > 0:41:30I think that's part of being a champion.

0:41:32 > 0:41:35First set, Miss Serena Williams to serve.

0:41:35 > 0:41:36Ready.

0:41:36 > 0:41:38Play.

0:41:38 > 0:41:41The first point of the match suggested the contest would be a

0:41:41 > 0:41:45high-quality shoot-out, as it had been in Melbourne.

0:41:45 > 0:41:48Could the American avenge her defeat to the left-handed German?

0:41:54 > 0:41:56In the ninth game, under pressure,

0:41:56 > 0:41:59Williams, the greatest server in women's tennis,

0:41:59 > 0:42:02fired a potent strike straight down the T.

0:42:05 > 0:42:07Advantage, Miss Williams.

0:42:07 > 0:42:11The only break of serve in the first set came as Kerber was trying to

0:42:11 > 0:42:13force a tie-break.

0:42:13 > 0:42:16The fourth seed threw everything she had at Williams,

0:42:16 > 0:42:19but the American's aggression proved telling.

0:42:28 > 0:42:31Game, and first set, Miss Williams.

0:42:31 > 0:42:35Time to reflect on three failed attempts in the last 12 months

0:42:35 > 0:42:37to win a 22nd major.

0:42:37 > 0:42:41Williams was one set away from another piece of history.

0:42:55 > 0:42:56INAUDIBLE

0:42:56 > 0:43:00Unperturbed, Kerber cast aside the first-set disappointment.

0:43:00 > 0:43:04Worrying a legend is one thing. Beating her is another.

0:43:21 > 0:43:23Deuce.

0:43:30 > 0:43:32Advantage, Miss Williams.

0:43:33 > 0:43:37With 16 previous Wimbledon campaigns behind her,

0:43:37 > 0:43:41Serena Williams knew experience provides a potent advantage

0:43:41 > 0:43:42in pressure situations.

0:43:49 > 0:43:52Game, Miss Williams.

0:43:52 > 0:43:55She had waited a year for this moment, and suffered some surprising

0:43:55 > 0:43:58setbacks along the way, but at last,

0:43:58 > 0:44:01Serena Williams could put all that behind her.

0:44:11 > 0:44:13Game, set, and match, Miss Williams.

0:44:13 > 0:44:18A seventh Wimbledon crown, a 22nd Grand Slam title.

0:44:18 > 0:44:21This fortnight I've definitely felt ownership of Centre Court.

0:44:21 > 0:44:25I just felt so comfortable out there and growing up you never think about

0:44:25 > 0:44:29winning this many titles, so I just think it's really just a great

0:44:29 > 0:44:34opportunity for me and I just feel so honoured to be the one doing it,

0:44:34 > 0:44:37but it's been a wonderful journey that I'm so proud to have been on.

0:44:42 > 0:44:45The other champions in 2016.

0:44:45 > 0:44:48The Williams sisters captured a sixth doubles title together.

0:44:50 > 0:44:52The men's doubles was won by French duo

0:44:52 > 0:44:55Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

0:44:56 > 0:44:59Finland's Henri Kontinen and Britain's Heather Watson

0:44:59 > 0:45:01are the mixed-doubles champions.

0:45:03 > 0:45:05More British success -

0:45:05 > 0:45:09Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett won the men's wheelchair doubles.

0:45:11 > 0:45:14Reid doubled up, winning the singles competition.

0:45:17 > 0:45:21Jiske Griffioen from Holland is the women's wheelchair champion.

0:45:21 > 0:45:24Jordanne Whiley will have to wait another year for success

0:45:24 > 0:45:25in that event.

0:45:25 > 0:45:29But with her partner, Yui Kamiji, they captured their third

0:45:29 > 0:45:33- wheelchair-doubles title at the All England Club.- ..6-2, 6-2.

0:45:39 > 0:45:44The quiet of Wimbledon's Centre Court is impossible to describe.

0:45:44 > 0:45:48You have to be there to feel the echoes of champions in every corner.

0:45:48 > 0:45:52In every place, the greats of the game have sat and wondered.

0:45:53 > 0:45:55Andy Murray was playing better tennis than ever.

0:45:58 > 0:46:02The rehiring of Ivan Lendl had sharpened his attention

0:46:02 > 0:46:04and strengthened his mind.

0:46:05 > 0:46:09He's just so totally focused on what he's got to do now.

0:46:09 > 0:46:11I think that's the big difference Lendl has made,

0:46:11 > 0:46:13and Andy and has talked about it himself -

0:46:13 > 0:46:16he said having Lendl around gives him that confidence.

0:46:16 > 0:46:18You know, Lendl, you see him,

0:46:18 > 0:46:20he's such a strong character and he's

0:46:20 > 0:46:23had such a fantastic record himself.

0:46:23 > 0:46:25He knows what it's like to win Grand Slams,

0:46:25 > 0:46:28he knows what it's like to lose Grand Slams as well,

0:46:28 > 0:46:30and I think Murray's benefited a lot already.

0:46:30 > 0:46:33Murray's playing better than anyone has in this tournament.

0:46:33 > 0:46:36I mean, his movement is unbelievable, and it seems like

0:46:36 > 0:46:41he's gotten better as matches have gone on, quicker, hitting harder,

0:46:41 > 0:46:44offering up more things, to confuse you.

0:46:44 > 0:46:46To me, you have to try to take the racket

0:46:46 > 0:46:48out of a guy like that's hands.

0:46:50 > 0:46:53Milos Raonic carried that huge responsibility.

0:46:53 > 0:46:56He had enlisted voices of reason to help fine-tune his game

0:46:56 > 0:46:58for the lawns of SW19.

0:46:59 > 0:47:01Is Milos Raonic the favourite?

0:47:01 > 0:47:04Obviously not. He's going to have to play the match of his life to win.

0:47:08 > 0:47:14The great and the good gathered for the 130th men's singles final.

0:47:14 > 0:47:18Coach John McEnroe was calling the match for the American broadcaster

0:47:18 > 0:47:24- ESPN.- Murray has done everything to try to bridge the gap with Djokovic.

0:47:24 > 0:47:27That's really what Milos Raonic is trying to do with Murray.

0:47:27 > 0:47:30If you asked me six or eight weeks ago when people started talking

0:47:30 > 0:47:34to me about Milos, how many guys can win Wimbledon, actually win it,

0:47:34 > 0:47:37it would be, like, five or six guys, and he was one of those guys.

0:47:48 > 0:47:52Murray had been a championship match contender in every other Grand Slam

0:47:52 > 0:47:54of 2016.

0:47:54 > 0:47:57Djokovic was the victor on both those occasions,

0:47:57 > 0:48:00and with the world number one eliminated,

0:48:00 > 0:48:05the Scot had created the best opportunity to capitalise at SW19.

0:48:05 > 0:48:09He hassled Raonic into misjudgement to make the first decisive move.

0:48:12 > 0:48:13The plan was working.

0:48:17 > 0:48:19Forcing the Canadian from corner to corner,

0:48:19 > 0:48:21the Scot was utterly in control.

0:48:25 > 0:48:27Game, and first set, Murray.

0:48:27 > 0:48:30When the two players met in the Queens final,

0:48:30 > 0:48:34for the first set and a half, Raonic displayed great composure.

0:48:34 > 0:48:38On this occasion, it was Murray who was carefully constructing points

0:48:38 > 0:48:40and confusing his opponent.

0:49:01 > 0:49:04There were glimpses of the serenity Raonic displayed against

0:49:04 > 0:49:07Roger Federer. Deep into the second set,

0:49:07 > 0:49:10the influence of his new coach was clear.

0:49:19 > 0:49:23But Murray did not allow his opponent to maintain a rhythm.

0:49:23 > 0:49:27With Lendl in his corner, his calm was rarely ruffled.

0:49:27 > 0:49:30After Murray made the first mini break in the tie-break,

0:49:30 > 0:49:32the result was never in doubt.

0:49:36 > 0:49:39Game, and second set, Murray.

0:49:49 > 0:49:52This major final was Murray's first against an opponent

0:49:52 > 0:49:55that was not Djokovic, Federer, or Nadal.

0:49:55 > 0:49:59In his sixth Wimbledon campaign, Milos Raonic is part of a new

0:49:59 > 0:50:02tennis generation starting to make its mark.

0:50:14 > 0:50:17But Andy Murray had played some of the best tennis of his life

0:50:17 > 0:50:22during The Championships, and his focus had been unwavering.

0:50:22 > 0:50:25From the moment he won his first match,

0:50:25 > 0:50:27for the loss of only nine games,

0:50:27 > 0:50:31the world number two looked like a man on a mission.

0:50:40 > 0:50:43Game, set, and match, Murray.

0:50:45 > 0:50:49Victory for Andy Murray on the most famous stage in tennis

0:50:49 > 0:50:52was even sweeter second time around.

0:50:53 > 0:50:57It's taken a lot of hard work, determination and mental strength

0:50:57 > 0:51:01as well, because, you know, I'd lost a few Slam finals this year already,

0:51:01 > 0:51:06and was coming in as favourite for the match today for the first time,

0:51:06 > 0:51:09as well, and managed to handle the pressure well.

0:51:09 > 0:51:15In 2013, I was just so stressed and relieved, and, you know, I maybe

0:51:15 > 0:51:19didn't enjoy it as much but I feel a lot calmer, a bit more content,

0:51:19 > 0:51:22happier this time around, so it was good.
