:00:11. > :00:20.Now we are going to take you over to Wimbledon. And she has done it. Her

:00:21. > :00:36.Majesty will present the trophy to a British woman. Oh, yes. That was

:00:37. > :00:44.perfect. Irresistible, majestic. The Wimbledon champion again. Anyone for

:00:45. > :00:56.tennis? # God save the Queen.

:00:57. > :01:42.# God save the Queen. Well, that is a first for Wimbledon

:01:43. > :01:46.and that was just for you, Pat. I like that, that has got me going.

:01:47. > :01:52.Who needs a cup of coffee when you have got the sex pistols? Do you

:01:53. > :01:58.like it? That is not my type of music. You may not remember this but

:01:59. > :02:03.I was 16 and you were 17 and you took me to your parents' garage at

:02:04. > :02:08.the Australian Open to listen to you jamming awake on your guitar and you

:02:09. > :02:16.played Ireland maiden and I had to pretend I liked that music. Do you

:02:17. > :02:23.remember? Of course I remember. We were a bit too young. Moving on

:02:24. > :02:27.quickly, Pat, it is 30 years to the day that you won the title and more

:02:28. > :02:34.famously ran up to greet your family. Yes, I know. It is hard to

:02:35. > :02:39.believe. It is a cliche, time has gone so quickly, but it is

:02:40. > :02:46.outrageous. I have sort of become more famous for that Klein. I beat

:02:47. > :02:50.the number one in the world and I beat Matt Wilander and Jimmy Connors

:02:51. > :02:56.and I should be known for that, but it was that Klein and my dad was

:02:57. > :03:05.there, my sister and my uncle and my trainer. It was the first real team.

:03:06. > :03:12.I remember my dad saying, I am by getting tickets for all the family.

:03:13. > :03:19.Now you cannot have as many people. We cannot give you any more tickets,

:03:20. > :03:23.Mr Cash. My dad was a lawyer and he negotiated and eventually got

:03:24. > :03:26.everybody in and around that area. The boxes are getting bigger, but

:03:27. > :03:35.that was my way of saying thank you for them. It was a team effort and I

:03:36. > :03:39.was a young father. I was 22 and a baby had been on its way at the age

:03:40. > :03:45.of 20. The family had to pull together. It was a stressful moment,

:03:46. > :03:48.new baby, travelling the world and trying to make a career and going

:03:49. > :03:54.out and training six or seven hours a day. It was not that easy. It was

:03:55. > :03:59.my way of saying thank you to everybody. You certainly did.

:04:00. > :04:06.Evander Lendl is on the practice court. Do you reminisce with him

:04:07. > :04:10.about the final? No, not at all. We have made our way out to the

:04:11. > :04:13.practice courts and there he is, looking as happy as ever I guess,

:04:14. > :04:20.out there with Andy Murray and getting him ready for his match. We

:04:21. > :04:24.have also got Milos Raonic behind us here and Marin Cilic has turned up

:04:25. > :04:30.with his coach and everybody is getting ready. Let's tell you what

:04:31. > :04:35.you can look forward to first on Centre court because we have a

:04:36. > :04:39.wonderful three matches to look forward to. I seem to remember

:04:40. > :04:43.saying that yesterday and it did not quite work out the way we expected.

:04:44. > :04:45.Johanna Konta is up against the player who beat her in the

:04:46. > :05:27.Eastbourne final, Donna Vekic. Beatriz Haddad Maia beat Laura

:05:28. > :05:28.Robson. Heather looks to be back to her best form and we wish her well

:05:29. > :05:40.with During the day we will be moving

:05:41. > :06:07.around across BBC One and BBC Two. Coming up shortly on BBC One, we

:06:08. > :06:12.will be heading out to court number two. Heather Watson is making her

:06:13. > :06:19.way out there for a warm up against Anastasija Sevastova. That match is

:06:20. > :06:27.live on the red button. We will be going there soon once we have set up

:06:28. > :06:33.the stories of the day. Talking of the stories of the day, we have to

:06:34. > :06:37.address what happened yesterday. Two retirement on centre court, eight in

:06:38. > :06:43.all out of the first round and there is also was of talk now, should

:06:44. > :06:50.players be allowed to go on court if they feel they cannot win the match?

:06:51. > :06:52.It is a good question and it is something each individual player

:06:53. > :06:57.knows in their own mind whether they are capable of finishing that match

:06:58. > :07:01.and that is a discussion between them and their physios. It is rare

:07:02. > :07:08.and disappointing for the fans who had all those tickets. Roger Federer

:07:09. > :07:12.and Novak Djokovic did not get the completed match. Some physios might

:07:13. > :07:17.say, as you go out there, your body might loosen up. Roger alluded to it

:07:18. > :07:21.in the press conference. You can get rain delays and that might benefit

:07:22. > :07:25.the person carrying an injury. If they get through the match, they get

:07:26. > :07:29.a day off in between and they get better for the next one, so you

:07:30. > :07:34.understand why players want to go out there and give it a go. It

:07:35. > :07:38.depends on if players know in their own mind if they can get through the

:07:39. > :07:46.match. One of the players yesterday was playing at four and months

:07:47. > :07:51.pregnant. I thought, should that have come into the debate a little

:07:52. > :07:55.bit? I try to hit some balls when I was four and a half months pregnant

:07:56. > :08:01.and I had to sit down, I had heart palpitations. I had loss of blood to

:08:02. > :08:07.my head and I felt faint. I thought, have I put my baby in danger? I was

:08:08. > :08:13.shocked she chose to play a singles match. Should that come into the

:08:14. > :08:18.debate as well? She did not admit to it, she did not tell anybody. Maybe

:08:19. > :08:23.her doctors would have said, do not do it. She announced it after the

:08:24. > :08:28.match. She can only answer this question as to why she was playing.

:08:29. > :08:32.You could get money if you are about to leave the tour and go off and

:08:33. > :08:37.have a baby. Was she playing for the money or did she believed she could

:08:38. > :08:41.win the match? I would put it into the category of being a bit

:08:42. > :08:44.hindered. If you are four and a half months pregnant, you cannot spread

:08:45. > :08:48.the way you would like to around the tennis court. It is an interesting

:08:49. > :08:53.debate. Was she extremely brave to have done it, with the doctors have

:08:54. > :09:00.advised somebody for and have months pregnant to play a singles match? If

:09:01. > :09:06.someone does feel that they cannot play the whole they get the full

:09:07. > :09:11.money. That is not part of the grand slams at the moment, is it a good

:09:12. > :09:15.idea? We have to look at it and whether they take half the money

:09:16. > :09:21.away if they do not finish the match. Somebody can be fully fit and

:09:22. > :09:24.slipped and have an accident. Some of these players went out in the

:09:25. > :09:29.first round knowing they could never finished the match and took the

:09:30. > :09:33.prize money. A few years ago we gave more money to the first round losers

:09:34. > :09:38.for players who were struggling and who were around the 120 mark and

:09:39. > :09:43.were struggling to make ends meet and qualifying. We wanted to help

:09:44. > :09:46.them, absolutely. But the other thing is some players are turning up

:09:47. > :09:55.to get their money. Or it is Wimbledon. You want to go out there

:09:56. > :09:58.and have a chance to play, why not? Two matches on centre court and

:09:59. > :10:03.everybody in the whole world is watching you. I think it is probably

:10:04. > :10:10.somewhere in between that might be a good balance. If it is a legitimate

:10:11. > :10:15.injury, the guy slides on the green grass court and somebody twists

:10:16. > :10:20.their ankle, you will say, why are you taking my money away from me? I

:10:21. > :10:25.had a legitimate injury. It is a real can of worms. It is the one

:10:26. > :10:33.black mark on our sport at the moment. I don't know if you are

:10:34. > :10:39.going to mention Bernard Tomic? Just explain. Basically he said he had an

:10:40. > :10:43.injury, or he faked an injury to get a break in the match so medical

:10:44. > :10:48.teams could come out and he said I did it to change the match. He

:10:49. > :10:53.wanted to change the momentum. And he said he was bored. He said he was

:10:54. > :11:05.bored, but he faked a medical time-out. Nobody can look me in the

:11:06. > :11:09.eye and say lots of players have faked the medical time-out. There

:11:10. > :11:13.are lots of players from the top to the bottom, they all do it. He is in

:11:14. > :11:18.the middle. It is a can of worms. Somebody could get sued. There are

:11:19. > :11:22.so many governing bodies that cannot get together and work it out. This

:11:23. > :11:32.hopefully will highlight its extremely. I would call it legal

:11:33. > :11:38.cheating and I am sticking by that. It is a really tricky situation. We

:11:39. > :11:43.never had medical time-outs. You only saw the players in the locker

:11:44. > :11:47.room having ice pack. We never had loo breaks or trainer breaks. A

:11:48. > :11:52.whole generation now assumes that is what you can do and they use it. If

:11:53. > :11:57.you are playing with an injury, you will make it worse and your career

:11:58. > :12:03.is in danger. In an interview with Boris this morning, we said that was

:12:04. > :12:08.a good point. I am looking after my body, this is my machine that will

:12:09. > :12:12.keep me going, I need to look after it. I retired at 30 and I am

:12:13. > :12:17.hobbling around with a bad back and I pushed myself to the limit. You

:12:18. > :12:23.can see both sides. What if somebody forces you to play? I have got a

:12:24. > :12:29.legitimate injury, here you go, here is a lawsuit. What a can of worms!

:12:30. > :12:42.Are you hobbling around the practice court? You are working with Coco

:12:43. > :12:46.Vandeweghe. Yes, she has got the match tomorrow, she is hitting the

:12:47. > :12:51.ball well. I will be hitting some shops to her. She has got a big game

:12:52. > :12:58.and she is suited to grass. What are your thoughts? I love the way she

:12:59. > :13:02.plays, she has got such a big personality. She loves targets and

:13:03. > :13:06.she loves being challenged and she loves competing. She brings a lot of

:13:07. > :13:11.sparkle onto the court and she loves playing on grass. But ultimately she

:13:12. > :13:19.has got a massive serve. She has got the of Serena Williams. Yes, she has

:13:20. > :13:24.got the power of Serena Williams. Her technique in her volleys is as

:13:25. > :13:30.good if not better than Serena's. But she does not hit them in as much

:13:31. > :13:35.as Serena, so that is a bit of work, working on the consistency. Does she

:13:36. > :13:38.do as she is told? She has been very good and her coaching team have done

:13:39. > :13:44.a great job getting her to where she is at. I got the feeling there was a

:13:45. > :13:48.stipulation if you are too sensitive about this and that and you are not

:13:49. > :13:53.willing to work, look somewhere else. If you want to get up to the

:13:54. > :13:58.top, I will help you, but you have got to work hard. No champion as

:13:59. > :14:05.never worked really really hard. I think she is willing to do that. She

:14:06. > :14:10.has to keep her feet as well so as not to be hobbling around like me.

:14:11. > :14:16.And Andy Murray as well, he is looking as though he is moving much

:14:17. > :14:21.better today. He definitely is. We were all studying his walk even

:14:22. > :14:27.between the hitting. Even the slow motion walks. He was surprised

:14:28. > :14:31.everyone said he was limping around and he said he must have developed

:14:32. > :14:36.it without realising because he does not feel any pain. But I think he

:14:37. > :14:40.looks good. He has got through his first round. It has not been ideal

:14:41. > :14:45.preparation. Last year he had won a lot more matches. This section of

:14:46. > :14:53.the draw has really opened up with Nick Kyrgios out. He is such an

:14:54. > :14:57.unbelievable competitor that he will find that instinct as he goes

:14:58. > :15:01.through the tournament. But I am looking forward to Dustin Brown. We

:15:02. > :15:08.definitely are. He was limping in between the point, but every drop

:15:09. > :15:12.shot he got up there. He was flying. It looked like he was going

:15:13. > :15:16.backwards, which is something I am familiar with at the moment, but he

:15:17. > :15:22.moved like lightning and it did not seem to affect him. He is moving

:15:23. > :15:28.well down there. The day before in his first-round match on Sunday and

:15:29. > :15:35.was watching him and he was quick the mark. Look at that. Players like

:15:36. > :15:39.to move side to side, but Alexander Bublik was testing his head and

:15:40. > :15:45.pulling him from pillar to post and changing direction. That was a good

:15:46. > :15:49.work-out and he survived. No doubt, and he will work his way into the

:15:50. > :15:53.tournament. But Dustin Brown is a tricky one for him because he can

:15:54. > :15:59.upset the rhythm and we have seen him serve and volley in the past.

:16:00. > :16:05.That looks a bit like your walk, Pat. It is very similar. That was

:16:06. > :16:14.the other day and clearly he was limping and he was protecting that.

:16:15. > :16:22.But not today. He is brilliant. This is live, he is limping again. I

:16:23. > :16:26.watched him an hour ago. He was fined a minute ago. He has been out

:16:27. > :16:33.there for about 45 minutes already. He knows best. Shall we move of

:16:34. > :16:38.these pictures because it is quite depressing! One thing he will not

:16:39. > :16:45.win is the battle of the hairstyles. Dustin Brown, wow. I'd just love it.

:16:46. > :16:49.He has got a wonderful personality. He makes you smile when you look at

:16:50. > :16:54.him. He plays tennis with a twinkle in his eye and he brings humour to a

:16:55. > :16:58.tennis court and he is a great shot maker. He took apart Rafael Nadal on

:16:59. > :17:04.the Centre Court and took Nick Kyrgios to five sets last year. He

:17:05. > :17:10.plays with so much spirit and enjoyment. I think he will relish

:17:11. > :17:15.his time out there today. There is no particular reason why Andy Murray

:17:16. > :17:21.should not do well against serve and volley is. He lost out in the

:17:22. > :17:25.Australian Open two is buried. Dustin Brown coming in like the

:17:26. > :17:32.grass court, it suits his style of play. He comes to the net and he is

:17:33. > :17:36.tall and he will make life uncomfortable for him. Andy likes

:17:37. > :17:44.rhythm and he wants to push his opponent around and tough him out.

:17:45. > :17:48.That was pretty good. He is so unpredictable and he needs a grand

:17:49. > :17:52.stage and he will enjoy being out there today. This was him arriving

:17:53. > :17:58.and he was walking behind us as we were talking. He is laid-back and he

:17:59. > :18:02.will really relish being on Centre Court. Some people get intimidated

:18:03. > :18:07.by it, but he will love it. He is made for the centre court. A friend

:18:08. > :18:12.of mine who has been following him for a long time said, he should be

:18:13. > :18:17.the biggest thing in tennis. He should be going around the world and

:18:18. > :18:23.promoting the sport. He is cool, he enjoys tennis and he is nice to talk

:18:24. > :18:28.to. He is great for tennis and it will be fantastic excitement on the

:18:29. > :18:35.Centre Court and it will be tense. It will be tense. Crying, laughing,

:18:36. > :18:39.smiling, booing, everything. It will be entertaining. He brings huge

:18:40. > :18:48.amount of power and unpredictability, but Andy Murray is

:18:49. > :18:50.so good at return of serve. That is one of his greatest assets and he is

:18:51. > :18:53.so good at nullifying the serve. Andy Murray has so many layers to

:18:54. > :18:58.his game and so many options, but on that backhand side he can use the

:18:59. > :19:05.left hand and dip the ball over the net and make the volleys a little

:19:06. > :19:08.bit more difficult for Dustin Brown. Guys can play with flair, but he

:19:09. > :19:15.will constantly put pressure on them. You said nullify and he could

:19:16. > :19:20.nullify Dustin Brown's game. But Dustin will have to play his best

:19:21. > :19:26.tennis today. He might be good for one set or two, but can he do it

:19:27. > :19:31.over five sets? The first on centre court is Johanna Konta against the

:19:32. > :19:37.player who beat her at Nottingham. But she has improved since then. She

:19:38. > :19:40.did not have a great clay-court season and she came to Nottingham

:19:41. > :19:45.and I watched all of her matches and she grew in stature. The one thing

:19:46. > :19:50.about her is she is a great athlete and she has a big serve and a big

:19:51. > :19:55.second serve which is difficult to attack. She is not so comfortable

:19:56. > :19:59.coming forward and volleying, but her opponent today is quite

:20:00. > :20:05.problematic. Donna Vekic was a young star at 16 and got to her first

:20:06. > :20:10.final at 16 and won her first tour title at 17. She served 16 aces in

:20:11. > :20:14.her semifinal in Nottingham and a bunch of aces against Johanna Konta.

:20:15. > :20:19.She will love being out there on centre stage and this will not be

:20:20. > :20:24.easy. Johanna Konta has not had a great draw here, but she goes about

:20:25. > :20:30.her process, applying her formula. She does not come out with a lot of

:20:31. > :20:35.frills attached to her. I am sure she will get through this, but it

:20:36. > :20:43.will not be easy. She has improved and her big serve is a real weapon.

:20:44. > :20:47.And she is very consistent. A great athlete, as Annabel said. She will

:20:48. > :20:51.scramble a lot of balls back. You would think she would have learned a

:20:52. > :20:57.lot from that loss in Nottingham. She will be fully aware of what she

:20:58. > :21:06.can bring to the game. She will have to serve, Donna Vekic, 16 aces again

:21:07. > :21:10.to win. Can you do that twice in a row? Johanna Konta has felt the

:21:11. > :21:15.pressure, but her first-round match looked good. She looked good, and

:21:16. > :21:19.there were a couple of balloon balls over the baseline which you do not

:21:20. > :21:23.see much from her. Her forehand side always looked a bit shaky and that

:21:24. > :21:27.is what she worked on incredibly hard. She now puts a bit more spin

:21:28. > :21:32.on it and her team is working with her to load up her legs a bit more

:21:33. > :21:36.on the grass. As everybody knows, you have to stay low and bend your

:21:37. > :21:41.knees and that is something she has been working on. If the pressure

:21:42. > :21:48.gets to its most extreme, it is the forehand side that might be a bit

:21:49. > :21:54.shaky. OK, thank you very much. We will be listening to heavy metal

:21:55. > :21:58.music estimator Mark it is sports and checks all the way out here, if

:21:59. > :22:07.you are looking at your TV set. It is warm out here. Let's find out how

:22:08. > :22:13.warm it is going to get. Is it going to stay like this? Yes, it is, look

:22:14. > :22:18.at Henman Hill, everyone trying to find their square of grass. 23

:22:19. > :22:24.Celsius is healthy at the moment, but it will get hotter. The maximum

:22:25. > :22:30.is likely to be around 29 or 30 with light winds and it will be roasting.

:22:31. > :22:33.We have got high UV levels. Even in the evening the temperature will be

:22:34. > :22:39.pretty high, only dropping by a couple of degrees. We are not

:22:40. > :22:42.expecting any rain showers today. Tomorrow first thing there will be

:22:43. > :22:47.some showers, but by the time play gets under way they will have

:22:48. > :22:52.cleared. If anything tomorrow it will be hotter than today, 30 or 31

:22:53. > :22:56.Celsius. But in the afternoon there is a risk of an isolated

:22:57. > :23:02.thunderstorm and if you catch one, it will be heavy, but it should move

:23:03. > :23:06.through quite quickly. Sue, just for you, the pollen levels are high. I

:23:07. > :23:11.thunderstorm does not sound too good. We are heading off to the live

:23:12. > :23:19.tennis in a moment, but if you want to get involved, you can. There are

:23:20. > :23:23.a lot of ways to get involved. As always, we would like you to join in

:23:24. > :23:29.the conversation as well. Let us know your thoughts. That is it, so

:23:30. > :23:34.get involved, we would love to hear from you. We are heading out, as

:23:35. > :23:43.promised, to see Heather Watson. She is up a break of serve against the

:23:44. > :23:46.number 18 C, Anastasija Sevastova. It is a great start from Heather.

:23:47. > :24:34.Let's join this one live. This has been an astounding start

:24:35. > :24:39.from Heather Watson. She has a double break against a player who is

:24:40. > :24:44.the 18th seed and who comes into this with a grass court title. The

:24:45. > :24:48.first one in seven years, but Watson is having none of it. She is playing

:24:49. > :24:57.so well at the moment, she is on fire.

:24:58. > :25:01.Really important today for Watson has been her serve. She has

:25:02. > :25:50.delivered so well today so far. Just the second point on serve that

:25:51. > :25:57.Watson has dropped so far in this set. Still a couple of points for a

:25:58. > :26:22.5-0 lead. She has hardly missed the point on backhand.

:26:23. > :26:33.I think Sevastova is a bit stunned at the moment. Heather Watson has

:26:34. > :26:37.raised to a 5-0, double break lead. She will be happy with that. I do

:26:38. > :26:41.not think she could have asked for anything more coming out. She is

:26:42. > :26:46.doing everything right at the moment, Watson. She is getting up to

:26:47. > :26:52.the serve beautifully. The first serve is making its mark. She is

:26:53. > :26:57.moving well. You have to crouch down a bit lower on the grass because of

:26:58. > :27:02.the lower bounds. This is her fifth week on the grass. She started at

:27:03. > :27:06.Surbiton, a lower ranking tournament, but she got to the final

:27:07. > :27:12.there. It is the movement going from clay to grass, getting lower onto

:27:13. > :27:19.the ball, but she has got the timing and the confidence. She must be

:27:20. > :27:24.feeling great. In the Eastbourne semifinal when she beat three top 25

:27:25. > :27:37.players, including the defending champion Dominika Cibulkova. It was

:27:38. > :27:41.her top ten win. Into Wimbledon as a wild card because her ranking was

:27:42. > :27:45.not good enough at 126. She is the reigning mixed doubles champion

:27:46. > :27:48.here. She was very surprised to win that title. Yes, that was a great

:27:49. > :28:06.feeling! Sevastova can get very grumpy on

:28:07. > :28:13.court and she usually takes it out on her coach. He has wisely been

:28:14. > :28:34.looking at his feet most of the time. Or hiding under his hat.

:28:35. > :28:43.I think she must be surprised the way Watson is coming at her. She has

:28:44. > :28:50.had to move a lot. Sevastova says of her game that there are no weak

:28:51. > :28:52.spots. But I would beg to differ about that. I think her forehand can

:28:53. > :29:16.be a bit dodgy. At that, says Watson. Too short, too

:29:17. > :29:44.much spin and Watson loving it. Rotating into it.

:29:45. > :29:47.APPLAUSE 18 minutes played and we have our

:29:48. > :30:30.first set point. Cost Heather Watson could not have

:30:31. > :30:39.played a better first set of tennis. 19 minutes on the clock and she

:30:40. > :30:46.takes the first set by 6-0. We've got every crosscourt backhand,

:30:47. > :30:52.cross shot and overhead shot covered on the BBC. You can watch the action

:30:53. > :30:54.on 15 courts live on the BBC website, BBC iPlayer and the BBC's

:30:55. > :31:23.or do app. I think the way Watson is moving,

:31:24. > :31:30.she is dancing around the court, getting down to the shots, smooth.

:31:31. > :31:37.Everything is working today. That does come with confidence. I would

:31:38. > :31:45.love to know what her coaches said to her because it has worked! Yes, a

:31:46. > :31:54.lot of hard work goes in. Months and months. When she lost her ranking,

:31:55. > :31:58.there was a little bit of panic. Morgan and: there, her coaches. You

:31:59. > :32:06.put in the hard work. You wonder if it is ever going to click into

:32:07. > :32:09.place. Good further. -- good for Heather. From the French Open going

:32:10. > :32:57.onto the grass it has started working.

:32:58. > :33:05.The first double fault for Heather Watson following is said where she

:33:06. > :33:17.served no double full 's and no unforced error is. -- double faults.

:33:18. > :33:27.Is the trick to keep the focus and the concentration? That first set

:33:28. > :33:32.went by in a flash. It is quite strange sometimes to win a set 6-0.

:33:33. > :33:43.You wonder when your opponent is going to start to play well. You get

:33:44. > :33:47.a little caught up with the other end of the court and don't focus on

:33:48. > :34:06.yourself so much. Head down, keep working, keep moving.

:34:07. > :34:10.Just maybe she saw our opponent moving in that direction and thought

:34:11. > :34:35.he had to hit a better shot. It has been very clever from Watson

:34:36. > :34:43.today. Sever Stover is pinned on the baseline. If you look as though you

:34:44. > :34:56.are going to hit it and go for a short shot, it is perfect on grass.

:34:57. > :35:06.The umpire called that out. She only had one challenge in the first set.

:35:07. > :35:14.A successful one from Heather Watson. It is the Latvian's turn

:35:15. > :35:42.now. The umpire has lost the challenge!

:35:43. > :35:55.Such good movement from Watson today. That is the point, that is

:35:56. > :36:00.the game. Her seventh game in a row. That is the stickiest game she has

:36:01. > :36:06.had on serve. She lost a couple of points in the first set only. She

:36:07. > :36:10.came through that well. Sever Stover was hitting the ball better horror

:36:11. > :36:15.forehand side. She is trying to generate more power. At the moment

:36:16. > :36:19.Watson is in charge of this match. She is kind of standing in the

:36:20. > :36:20.middle of the court, directing the ball from side to side. Her opponent

:36:21. > :36:57.is on the run. Now this on paper was, and still

:36:58. > :37:01.could be, a tough test for Watson. Sevestova, 18th seed. She won a

:37:02. > :37:03.tournament on Majorca -- in Majorca on grass in the lead of two

:37:04. > :37:28.Wimbledon. -- to Wimbledon. Shame! She played at that point so

:37:29. > :37:33.beautifully until that last shot. It is funny to say a grass court

:37:34. > :37:37.tournament in Majorca. It is very new. I think it started last year.

:37:38. > :38:07.At the same sort of weather, surely, as today?

:38:08. > :38:14.I think the plan is to go to the forehand, pinning it in that corner.

:38:15. > :38:38.The forehand has been breaking down a lot.

:38:39. > :38:42.The first time Watson has looked a little jerky on the shots. She has

:38:43. > :39:03.been so smooth until now. That is a rare thing indeed. It is a

:39:04. > :39:09.Sevestova hold. The first one of this second round match. She gets

:39:10. > :39:15.herself on the board. A slightly better look for her. She does

:39:16. > :39:20.crumble along during a match things aren't going well. It is just her

:39:21. > :40:16.way. She is fine. As the points start, she is into it.

:40:17. > :40:34.Heather's mum, Michelle. And also sometime coach. Yes. She is great 20

:40:35. > :40:41.comes on court. -- when she comes on court. We have had a three double

:40:42. > :40:46.faults from Heather Watson. They have all come in the second set. Her

:40:47. > :40:53.mum came on court in Monterey. Heather said she cant hit a backhand

:40:54. > :41:02.crosscourt. And she said, well don't hit it then. It it down the line

:41:03. > :41:09.then! -- hit it. Heather's answer? Yes, mum! She is very down-to-earth.

:41:10. > :41:17.She is great, I think. She had all these notes as well. Heather's

:41:18. > :41:44.support camp. Here is another rare sighting in

:41:45. > :41:46.this second set. A holder from Sevestova and now we have a break

:41:47. > :42:40.point on the Watson serve. APPLAUSE. That was great disguise by

:42:41. > :42:46.Watson. You can see she is trying to decide what to do when she was

:42:47. > :42:50.coming up to the net. Drop shot or not? She played it deeper. It really

:42:51. > :43:07.good feel. Just see right here. She took her

:43:08. > :43:44.right hand away. Sevestova is having a right old

:43:45. > :43:50.stayer at that line. It is not play. She may not see so good. Both have

:43:51. > :44:43.had a successful challenge. And that was a successful serve.

:44:44. > :44:56.APPLAUSE Good direction. Hitting the ball,

:44:57. > :45:17.getting her opponent on the run. Making her search -- stretch.

:45:18. > :45:46.I think she pulled off that shot. She didn't commit to it.

:45:47. > :45:53.So in the longest game of this second round match, two break points

:45:54. > :46:12.have been saved so far. Now a point for a hold from Heather Watson.

:46:13. > :46:21.And on we go. A well played point. Kind of a sneak attack you can do on

:46:22. > :46:54.grass, the old chip and charge. The third opportunity now for the

:46:55. > :46:57.Latvian to break the serve of Heather Watson and feel like she is

:46:58. > :47:26.truly back in this second round match.

:47:27. > :47:36.A gift from Heather Watson gets Anastasija Sevestova back into this

:47:37. > :47:41.second round contest. Cilic 2-1 with a break but Heather Watson won the

:47:42. > :47:47.first set. -- she leads to- one.

:47:48. > :47:52.That proof could costly. This is what is happening elsewhere.

:47:53. > :47:59.Victoria Azarenka are making her comeback after the birth of her

:48:00. > :48:08.first child. She is playing Elena Vesnina. A semifinalist at Wimbledon

:48:09. > :48:13.last year. Azarenka, before -- former world number one, is leading

:48:14. > :48:16.4-2. The winner of this match will play the winner of the match we are

:48:17. > :48:20.watching with Heather Watson. We will keep you up-to-date with that.

:48:21. > :48:26.The British number one has been on the practice court. She is playing

:48:27. > :48:30.so well at the moment. This really has been another breakthrough year

:48:31. > :48:36.for her, winning in Sydney and also winning in Miami as well. That was a

:48:37. > :48:42.big win for her. She is playing Donna Vekic. First on Centre Court.

:48:43. > :48:48.About 40 minutes remaining. Back we go to see whether Heather Watson can

:48:49. > :48:52.break back after such an impressive first set. She only dropped two

:48:53. > :48:56.points on her serve and no unforced errors. She has to get that back.

:48:57. > :49:10.The Latvian looking a little bit dangerous now.

:49:11. > :49:16.What are we putting this second set down to so far? More mistakes from

:49:17. > :49:23.Watson or Sevestova settling in? I think it bit of both. I think Watson

:49:24. > :49:30.played so well in the first set, she didn't allow her opponent to get

:49:31. > :49:35.into it and play. Now she is making a few more mistakes. Sevestova has

:49:36. > :50:00.now got it going a bit. The dynamic has changed. Momentum has changed.

:50:01. > :50:10.UMPIRE: miss Watson is challenging the call. The ball was called in.

:50:11. > :50:22.The umpire didn't overrule. It is kind of below us. This will be

:50:23. > :50:23.rather tight. UMPIRE: Miss Watson has two

:50:24. > :50:37.challenges remaining. She saw that perfectly. I think

:50:38. > :50:40.Watson is at her best when she is hitting down the line is, when she

:50:41. > :50:54.connects and times it. A comfortable hold for Sevestova.

:50:55. > :50:59.Their first meeting since 2013. We are not reading too much into that

:51:00. > :51:05.first meeting. Since then, Sevestova retired with back and muscle

:51:06. > :51:06.problems. Then she healed. And here she is, 18th seed and world number

:51:07. > :51:24.19. APPLAUSE

:51:25. > :52:11.Another glare at the coach. UMPIRE: Miss Sevestova challenging a

:52:12. > :52:17.call. The ball was called in. She didn't seem all that

:52:18. > :52:20.wholehearted about that. No, she didn't. A bit half-hearted. I'm

:52:21. > :52:40.quite shocked at that. These double faults are mounting at

:52:41. > :53:04.the moment. She has just lost rhythm slightly on her first serve.

:53:05. > :53:29.She didn't move to that. Just reached for it.

:53:30. > :53:42.Well played. I'm glad we have seen the yell and the fist pump. I just

:53:43. > :53:44.thought she was getting slightly into herself. Not letting anything

:53:45. > :54:21.out. The emotions, the energy. It's so hard to manage yourself on

:54:22. > :54:26.court when you could not have played any better in the first set. The

:54:27. > :55:03.second set, suddenly the timing has gone off.

:55:04. > :55:13.I'm not quite sure how she got away with that drop Mac shot. Sevestova

:55:14. > :55:17.had a right good look at it. I thought she might try a knob of

:55:18. > :55:34.this. Watson is very near the net. She doesn't care. The point won.

:55:35. > :55:48.An important hold for Heather Watson. She is a break down.

:55:49. > :55:54.It is incredible how quickly things can change. I think that is the

:55:55. > :55:58.beauty of tennis and the scoring system. 19 minutes played, no

:55:59. > :56:04.unforced errors, everything was perfect and clean and wonderful.

:56:05. > :56:09.Just looking down there at the second serve points won by said.

:56:10. > :56:13.What a change around. We were talking about the serve before the

:56:14. > :56:18.match started but we said the first serve would be important. Look at

:56:19. > :56:22.this on the second serve. If you can maybe not have to put some in second

:56:23. > :56:26.service in, it puts the pressure on you. She is trying to hit her first

:56:27. > :56:36.serve very hard. Just missing now instead of hitting. A good game to

:56:37. > :56:42.win. Glorious day. Day three, sunshine.

:56:43. > :56:49.Very different to last year. It was so horrible. Drizzly. And it changes

:56:50. > :56:51.the way the courts play as well. The sun, the heat, it sucks the moisture

:56:52. > :57:33.out. Nice and high bouncing. APPLAUSE

:57:34. > :57:39.A little bit of frustration. I thought she would be a lot calmer.

:57:40. > :57:43.She said if she wasn't a tennis player she would be a doctor. And

:57:44. > :57:48.you wouldn't want your doctor behaving like that, would you?! You

:57:49. > :57:49.would think taking time out from tennis he would return with a

:57:50. > :58:04.different mindset. It is always a difficult balance for

:58:05. > :58:07.Watson. To attack more or put the ball in court. The first said she

:58:08. > :58:55.won by being very aggressive and it worked. -- sets.

:58:56. > :59:06.Well done. That was really good movement. Some sarcasm there. Watson

:59:07. > :59:12.said last week in particular at Eastbourne when she was moving so

:59:13. > :59:14.well, use that. It is great on a grass court if you can get nice and

:59:15. > :59:28.low. An opportunity for Heather Watson to

:59:29. > :59:44.get back on serve in the second set. That was a good service though. Hard

:59:45. > :00:11.and flat. A little bit of luck to bring break

:00:12. > :00:45.point number two. There it is! 49 minutes played,

:00:46. > :00:56.three games all, second set. Really tough. The last couple of games she

:00:57. > :00:58.stuck in there, Watson. Heather Watson looking for just her eighth

:00:59. > :01:15.career win over a top 20 player. She beat Dominika Cibulkova at

:01:16. > :01:18.Eastbourne. She did say at Eastbourne she felt she was about to

:01:19. > :01:22.turn a corner with the amount she had been working. She really felt

:01:23. > :01:27.things were going to change. What a lovely feeling. You have got that

:01:28. > :01:49.hard work behind you and then things start kicking into place.

:01:50. > :01:57.For the time she dropped down and played three ITF event. There are no

:01:58. > :02:02.towels, there are no water, and then it made her realise this was not the

:02:03. > :02:08.tennis she wanted to play, she rediscovered her hunger. Whatever it

:02:09. > :02:09.takes. That gave her a huge jolt back to reality, that and the hard

:02:10. > :02:45.work as well. That is clever play. She is very

:02:46. > :02:49.skilful, Sevastova. We have seen her sliced backhand, but this is a

:02:50. > :03:12.sliced forehand, coming right across the ball and it was well disguised.

:03:13. > :03:22.Well played by Sevastova. A pump of the face from the Latvian because

:03:23. > :03:31.she has broken Watson to regain her advantage in this second set and

:03:32. > :03:34.lead by 4-3. It is nice Heather Watson has that desire because a lot

:03:35. > :03:38.of players will not drop down a level. They are used to what they

:03:39. > :03:44.are used to, having a fabulous career. She went to a level where

:03:45. > :03:48.she had to find her own balls and come back. She realised you have got

:03:49. > :03:53.to put the hard work in, it is not the level she wanted to play in.

:03:54. > :03:58.Whatever it takes to rediscover that hunger, you do. Exactly. And her

:03:59. > :04:03.opponent had the same thing. I know she had a lot of injuries and went

:04:04. > :04:08.out of the tour for a couple of years. She is not from a country

:04:09. > :04:12.that has a grand slam, there is no sponsorship, she is from Latvia. She

:04:13. > :04:23.had to start in the lower levels and work her way up. She was ranked 110

:04:24. > :04:27.and she did it the hard way as well. It makes you realise what you want

:04:28. > :04:31.out of your tennis, it is a very limited time, and you have to make

:04:32. > :04:55.the most of it. Look at this glorious weather.

:04:56. > :05:08.A few people came in on that changeover.

:05:09. > :05:20.Punchy shots from Watson, coming steaming back. Sevastova was not

:05:21. > :05:24.ready for that. And again! Watson has just been broken and there is a

:05:25. > :05:31.chance it might happen to her opponent.

:05:32. > :05:45.There we go! In the blink of an eye and we are back on serve. One break

:05:46. > :05:51.the peace. 4-4. What a game, she timed everything beautifully off her

:05:52. > :06:19.return. Her first serve in this game is vital.

:06:20. > :06:33.Both hands in the air. There is Anne Keothavong. You always apologise.

:06:34. > :07:02.Did you ever mean it? It does not matter!

:07:03. > :07:07.I tell you what, Sevastova is not happy down there. There was no

:07:08. > :07:32.thought behind that shot. Still shaking her head. I am sorry,

:07:33. > :08:06.that was luck. She just flung her racket at that.

:08:07. > :08:15.At the moment Watson just needs to get the ball in the court. I think

:08:16. > :08:17.Donna Vekic will hit it out the court or into the net. She does not

:08:18. > :08:40.seem bothered down at other end. I used to hate it when I thought

:08:41. > :08:44.opponents were not trying down at the other end and then they get a

:08:45. > :08:54.couple of winners and suddenly they are winning. It does not seem fair.

:08:55. > :09:28.She needed the serve and she got the serve, game point, Watson.

:09:29. > :09:37.Into the tramlines it goes and the 18th seed looks at her box and give

:09:38. > :09:44.them a glare. Heather Watson is a game away from a place into the next

:09:45. > :09:55.round. That would equal her best showing here in 2012 and 2015. Maybe

:09:56. > :09:58.it is a good situation to be in with the lid and putting all the pressure

:09:59. > :10:02.back on her opponent and to come out and stay in the match. I think she

:10:03. > :10:08.would love to break to win the match. But at grand slams that first

:10:09. > :10:13.round looms so large in your mind. You definitely want to win the first

:10:14. > :10:17.round. Once you get over that, you go into the second round with much

:10:18. > :10:21.more confidence. Seeing Heather play like she has played today it is

:10:22. > :10:26.really good to see that she can produce tennis like this. It should

:10:27. > :10:32.give her so much confidence, win or lose this match, for the rest of

:10:33. > :10:37.year. I cannot imagine you get very stressed. Coming into Wimbledon, the

:10:38. > :10:42.home slam, were you a different beast in the run-up to Wimbledon?

:10:43. > :11:02.Definitely. Goodness, the stress of a tennis player!

:11:03. > :11:46.One hour on the match clock and we have three match points for Heather

:11:47. > :12:14.Watson to defeat the 18th seed, Anastasija Sevastova.

:12:15. > :12:31.I like the way the crowd groaned. Don't worry, we have got two more.

:12:32. > :12:39.What a performance from Heather Watson. She is playing her best at

:12:40. > :12:44.Wimbledon and she is into the third round and she has done it at the

:12:45. > :12:54.expense of the 18th seed, Anastasija Sevastova, in just over an hour. The

:12:55. > :12:58.crowd is delighted. 6-0, 6-4. I am not surprised at this result the way

:12:59. > :13:03.she has played over the last few weeks. She plays good grass court

:13:04. > :13:07.tennis. A little disappointing for Sevastova at the end who completely

:13:08. > :13:13.went out of the match, but for Heather Watson it is a great win. It

:13:14. > :13:19.is amazing how much we use that word confidence and how important it is.

:13:20. > :13:24.It is. But you have to work at it and it has taken months of hard work

:13:25. > :13:28.for Heather to get to this point. Before this tournament, Eastbourne,

:13:29. > :13:33.coming into this, it was only the second time this season that Heather

:13:34. > :13:36.Watson had got back-to-back wins. And here she is, into round three,

:13:37. > :13:52.full of smiles. She will be absolutely delighted.

:13:53. > :13:56.Just one hour on court in hot conditions as well and she has

:13:57. > :14:04.dispatched the 18th seed. Great conditions. The crowd loved it. They

:14:05. > :14:09.are buzzing. When it started there were not too many and then word got

:14:10. > :14:13.round about what Heather Watson was doing. I know it is a wonderful

:14:14. > :14:17.place to wander around and have a drink. They thought, let's get to

:14:18. > :14:27.our seats, because this might be over. If they were late in, they

:14:28. > :14:32.might have missed it. Heather Watson with a convincing win. The 18th seed

:14:33. > :14:38.is gone. Here is Heather Watson speaking post match McKenzie.

:14:39. > :14:42.Congratulations. What an incredible start to the match. You came out

:14:43. > :14:47.with such intensity. You said the other day you knew she was going to

:14:48. > :14:52.be a threat. Were you surprised how you started and how she started?

:14:53. > :14:57.Yes, I felt very good at the beginning of the match and ferry on

:14:58. > :15:03.it and relaxed, more relaxed I was in my first match. I know how she

:15:04. > :15:10.plays, she is a great player and I was expecting her to be playing her

:15:11. > :15:14.best and I was prepared for that. Yes, she started to step up in the

:15:15. > :15:20.second set, which I knew she would, but I was able to keep my cool and

:15:21. > :15:23.stick with her. The intensity you showed, the mental strength you

:15:24. > :15:27.showed just to keep going and not let anything get on top of you even

:15:28. > :15:32.when she did come back, how important is that for everything

:15:33. > :15:37.that Wimbledon throws at you? It is very important. She is a great

:15:38. > :15:44.player and I have to expect that she will raise her level after the first

:15:45. > :15:49.set and try something new. So I just have to remain calm and adjust my

:15:50. > :15:52.game. In terms of your own performance, what is pleasing you

:15:53. > :15:58.with how you are playing out there? You are covering the grass so well.

:15:59. > :16:01.Just everything, really. I am seeing the ball very big and I am moving

:16:02. > :16:10.very well which is important for the grass. I hit a few double points,

:16:11. > :16:16.but I am serving well. Victoria Azarenka took the first set. Do you

:16:17. > :16:23.have any preference of her over as Elena Vesnina? I have no preference,

:16:24. > :16:28.whoever wins out of that, it is a very tough match. You are taking it

:16:29. > :16:36.one match at a time? Yes, I am. Congratulations. Thank you. SUE

:16:37. > :16:41.BARKER: Heather Watson is returning to form. This is some victory

:16:42. > :16:45.against a player who beat Johanna Konta last year and Karolina

:16:46. > :16:50.Pliskova in Madrid earlier in the clay-court season. That is a big

:16:51. > :16:54.scalp. She is the eight women's seed to fall at these championships and

:16:55. > :16:59.it is wonderful to see Heather Watson back in the third round for

:17:00. > :17:02.the third time. A couple of years ago she played Serena Williams on

:17:03. > :17:08.Centre Court and Serena Williams said she could be a top 20 player

:17:09. > :17:12.and then she dropped out, but she is on her way back. Later on today

:17:13. > :17:18.Johanna Konta will be on centre court, that is in about ten minutes'

:17:19. > :17:22.time. Earlier before Lee and Jo Durie went out to watch Heather,

:17:23. > :17:25.they went out to watch Johanna Konta practice and Lee started by asking

:17:26. > :17:31.about that nasty fall she had last week at Eastbourne. I think the

:17:32. > :17:37.shock of falling at Eastbourne was the thing and the grand slam at

:17:38. > :17:41.Wimbledon is too important not to play. She is so fit the way she is

:17:42. > :17:46.moving and hitting the ball today in practice. She has got a tough

:17:47. > :17:50.opponent today on centre court, Donna Vekic, who won her first tour

:17:51. > :17:56.competition at the age of 17. They met recently. Yes, the final at

:17:57. > :18:01.Nottingham, and it was a tough, hard match with loads of long rallies.

:18:02. > :18:08.Donna Vekic hits the ball hard, but she can play a lot of different

:18:09. > :18:12.shots. She got Johanna Konta out of her rhythm. It will be interesting,

:18:13. > :18:18.who will be more nervous in this match? There is so much on it. Does

:18:19. > :18:24.the Centre Court crowd lift you? Will she be able to take something

:18:25. > :18:28.from it? I think so, you can take something from it, but you hear all

:18:29. > :18:31.the groans when you hit a bad shot. Use all the energy, you have got to

:18:32. > :18:41.love playing on centre court at Wimbledon. SUE BARKER: You certainly

:18:42. > :18:44.love it, but there is pressure on world number one. Andy Murray deals

:18:45. > :18:50.with it so well, let's have Johanna Konta does so as well. What a

:18:51. > :18:54.wonderful day on the third day of the championships. The weather could

:18:55. > :18:57.not be more perfect for tennis and for the spectators. All the big

:18:58. > :19:04.stars are all around the grounds here today. A lovely day at

:19:05. > :19:08.Wimbledon. We have got about ten minutes left here, so we are going

:19:09. > :19:13.to drop in to see who Heather will be playing in the next round,

:19:14. > :19:21.whether it is Elena Vesnina or Victoria Azarenka. We can join this

:19:22. > :19:28.match and the commentators are Louise Fleming and James Burridge.

:19:29. > :19:46.Victoria Azarenka in cruise control here at the moment.

:19:47. > :19:54.The quality of this match has been exceptional today. She looks like a

:19:55. > :20:36.seasoned pro. Going for broke, Elena Vesnina. She

:20:37. > :20:42.has got to try and do something. It is a bit of desperate play from

:20:43. > :20:48.Vesnina. She has never taken a set from her opponent, she has lost

:20:49. > :20:50.seven times on the trot. At the moment Azarenka has incredible

:20:51. > :20:54.conversion between winners and unforced errors. She just has not

:20:55. > :21:43.put a foot wrong today. Much more positive tennis from

:21:44. > :21:56.Vesnina. She has to take Azarenka on. She has the variety in her game.

:21:57. > :21:58.She has been hit hitting plenty of drop shots, but at the moment

:21:59. > :22:14.Azarenka has all the answers. She has to take whatever luck she

:22:15. > :22:20.can get. The way Azarenka has been moving around the court today has

:22:21. > :22:21.been exceptional. She just looks really ready for Wimbledon this

:22:22. > :22:46.year. That was a smart serve from Vesnina,

:22:47. > :23:05.shutting down the wings of Azarenka. Going at the body.

:23:06. > :23:13.Another example of that return of serve from Azarenka. She is hitting

:23:14. > :23:40.them with such depth. It is not just the pace that is doing the damage.

:23:41. > :23:50.Not that time. A crucial hold for Elena Vesnina. She has got to find

:23:51. > :24:02.some way to stop this onslaught here from Victoria Azarenka.

:24:03. > :24:09.Everything that Elena Vesnina has done today has not bothered Victoria

:24:10. > :24:15.Azarenka. I am almost in shock at the way she has come out here and

:24:16. > :24:19.played today. The top players on the WTA tour and thrive on momentum and

:24:20. > :24:26.being able to come into tournaments with a lot of matches behind them.

:24:27. > :24:31.The fact that Azarenka is short on matches and confidence, she has just

:24:32. > :24:36.come here and perhaps it is the fact there is no expectation on her, but

:24:37. > :24:44.she is relaxed and seeing the ball so well today. This is just her

:24:45. > :24:54.second tournament back since giving birth to her son Leo in December.

:24:55. > :25:04.She played in Majorca on the grass. There is her partner. They will be

:25:05. > :25:06.very happy with what they have seen so far in the last hour and 12

:25:07. > :25:15.minutes. Azarenka is one set to the good and

:25:16. > :25:55.with a break in the second set. That is the touch we were talking

:25:56. > :26:00.about. Her positioning is much better. This is a very deep forehand

:26:01. > :26:11.inside the court and that is where she needs to be for that drop shot.

:26:12. > :26:18.Doubles specialist as well with 16 doubles titles to her name, Elena

:26:19. > :27:09.Vesnina. So she has a whole box of tricks.

:27:10. > :27:19.That is where she can be exposed. She is being pushed a little bit

:27:20. > :27:20.wide of the backhand. Azarenka has worked out her patterns

:27:21. > :28:28.exceptionally well today. SUE BARKER: I am sorry we have to

:28:29. > :28:33.leave it there, but I did say we were only going in there for a few

:28:34. > :28:38.minutes. If you want to continue watching this match, it is our

:28:39. > :28:43.feature match on the red button. We will be starting on BBC Two in just

:28:44. > :28:48.a moment where we will be on centre court, Johanna Konta just about to

:28:49. > :28:50.walk out for her match against Donna Vekic. Then Andy Murray. We will

:28:51. > :29:00.start in just a moment on BBC Two. MUSIC: Hoppipolla
