:00:54. > :01:42.SUE BARKER: Well, that's a first for Wimbledon!
:01:43. > :01:46.It's day three of the Championship, a day for the best of British to
:01:47. > :01:50.take centre stage as Andy Murray and Jo Konta the headline act in the
:01:51. > :01:54.most famous court in world tennis. Both Murray, the world number one
:01:55. > :01:59.and number one seed, and the British number one and sixth seed Konta, I
:02:00. > :02:03.aiming to reach the third round today. Both have tricky opponents
:02:04. > :02:08.but both will be expecting to progress on Centre Court. A
:02:09. > :02:10.resurgent Rafa Nadal, former champion Venus Williams, two-time
:02:11. > :02:15.champion Petra Kvitova, and second seed Simona Halep are also in
:02:16. > :02:20.action. You have the best seat in the house to watch all of the drama
:02:21. > :02:24.unfold. Hello, and welcome once again to Wimbledon here on BBC One.
:02:25. > :02:28.And what can be described as wonderful Wednesday. As you can see,
:02:29. > :02:31.the weather is glorious and we have fascinating matches all around the
:02:32. > :02:41.grounds. As always, our focus will be on the show courts, where the big
:02:42. > :02:45.names will be tested. Britain's Jo Konta was impressive in round one
:02:46. > :02:52.but now faces Donna Vekic, a player who beat her just weeks ago. Andy
:02:53. > :03:01.Murray, a late phase with that hip injury in his opening round, but
:03:02. > :03:05.faces another test today in the shape of Dustin Brown. Age is
:03:06. > :03:11.proving no barrier to 37-year-old Venus Williams. The five-time
:03:12. > :03:15.champion faces greyer rank on Court One. Rafa Nadal looks back to his
:03:16. > :03:22.best. Next up is former two-time champion Donald Young in the battle
:03:23. > :03:28.of the left-handers. Simona Halep is targeting the first Grand Slam title
:03:29. > :03:32.and the number one spot. She faces Beatriz Haddad Maia. Petra Kvitova
:03:33. > :03:39.continues her comeback. The Czech left-hander faces Madison Brengle.
:03:40. > :03:43.That is what we can look forward to here today. But already some matches
:03:44. > :03:49.have been completed. We'll bring you those in just a moment. First on
:03:50. > :03:53.Centre Court it is Jo against Vekic, we will be there in just a moment.
:03:54. > :03:58.Then it is Murray against Dustin Brown, he was such an entertainer.
:03:59. > :04:03.And Rafa takes an Donald Young. Kei Nishikori has started on Court
:04:04. > :04:06.Number One. Then it is Venus Williams and then Simona Halep. That
:04:07. > :04:13.completes the line-up on number one court today. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is
:04:14. > :04:21.taking on Simone Bolelli. Marin Cilic, the number seven seed.
:04:22. > :04:27.Jelena Ostapenko, the French Open champion, will be out on court
:04:28. > :04:32.number 12. I mentioned some matches have already been completed. Great
:04:33. > :04:38.news for Britain's Heather Watson. Out on Court Number Two up against
:04:39. > :04:45.the 18th seed, Anastasija Sevastova, who has had some big scalps in her
:04:46. > :04:50.time, she beat Jo Konta and Carolyn Bush, in Madrid. -- Karolina
:04:51. > :04:55.Pliskova. She only lost two points in the server in the opening game.
:04:56. > :04:58.Just two years ago she was on Centre Court playing Serena Williams and
:04:59. > :05:04.everyone thinking she would rise up the rankings, but she has dropped
:05:05. > :05:07.out of the world's top 100. But she has found her best form on the grass
:05:08. > :05:15.and is through to the third round. Well done, Heather Watson. And she's
:05:16. > :05:20.through to the next round to face Victoria Azarenka, who came through
:05:21. > :05:26.against last year's semifinalist, the number 15 seed, 6-3, 6-3. The
:05:27. > :05:30.former world number one has made a remarkable comeback here, she is the
:05:31. > :05:36.third round and will face Heather Watson on Friday.
:05:37. > :05:42.And we'll just update you with what is happening out on court number
:05:43. > :05:46.three involving Ali is Bedene of Great Britain, who put out Ivo
:05:47. > :05:52.Karlovic. He has just started his match against his good friend Damir
:05:53. > :05:57.Dzumhur, who he had to lend a shirt and pair of shorts do in his opening
:05:58. > :06:00.round. I wonder if he's done it again today! That will be over on
:06:01. > :06:08.BBC Two if you want to follow Bedene's progress. But we are
:06:09. > :06:12.heading to Centre Court right now, where Joe Konta, oh, she's been in
:06:13. > :06:16.trouble here against Donna Vekic. We thought it would be tricky. She's
:06:17. > :06:23.saved a couple of set point and broken the Croatian's serve. Vekic
:06:24. > :06:34.is leading 5-4. Our commentators are kimchi is this an Sam Smith.
:06:35. > :06:41.UMPIRE: Quiet please. Thank you. COMMENTATOR: Konta serving to stay
:06:42. > :07:30.in this opening set. It takes a lot to shake Jo these
:07:31. > :07:37.days. 30 matches won on the tour, and only halfway through the year.
:07:38. > :07:38.Not one of the top of the rankings for matches won, but it's not far
:07:39. > :07:57.off. APPLAUSE
:07:58. > :08:01.She's really raised her level. When she was set point town, she really
:08:02. > :08:05.took it to Donna Vekic, she was even a little more aggressive -- set
:08:06. > :08:10.point down. She is full of confidence coming off that wonderful
:08:11. > :08:11.week in Eastbourne when she beat Jelena Ostapenko and then the world
:08:12. > :08:20.number one, Angelique Kerber. A very straightforward hold. Konta
:08:21. > :09:08.levels up in this opening set. APPLAUSE
:09:09. > :09:12.We just sort, throwing up the ball the couple of times. How difficult
:09:13. > :09:18.is it in Centre Court in the middle part of the date -- we just sort
:09:19. > :09:24.Donna Vekic throwing at them. Yellow when the sun is in your eyes, it's
:09:25. > :09:32.even tougher to ball. She is down the southern end. As if there isn't
:09:33. > :09:35.enough going on, with that royal box and 15,000 fans and the most famous
:09:36. > :09:57.court in the world. Then you have the sun to deal with.
:09:58. > :10:42.Well, what a response to looking at those two set points just a couple
:10:43. > :11:02.of games ago. Lovely change-up! She's hitting some
:11:03. > :12:29.good returns there. Thinking very clearly under the
:12:30. > :13:05.greatest of pressures is Jo Konta here.
:13:06. > :13:17.Right shot and wrong execution, or a bad choice? Well, Ameen, I think it
:13:18. > :13:22.was the decision, but I think she pulled her arm down a little bit too
:13:23. > :13:23.quick -- well, I mean. More a problem on the execution front? I
:13:24. > :14:28.think so, yeah. UMPIRE: The ball was called in.
:14:29. > :14:33.Well, the baseline is twice as thick as all of the other lines. 100
:14:34. > :14:40.centimetres wide. It just gives you a bit more of a chance. I don't know
:14:41. > :14:47.why that is, it's one of the oddities of a tennis court. 100
:14:48. > :15:04.millimetres, excuse me, not 100 centimetres.
:15:05. > :15:16.APPLAUSE Something she's done really well as
:15:17. > :15:22.attack that second serve and open up into the "straightaway. Well, that
:15:23. > :15:26.return speed on the second serve was increased by eight miles per hour
:15:27. > :15:27.for this match, and certainly over the last few Vekic service game.
:15:28. > :15:44.Break point began. -- again. It's such a big shock to fall back
:15:45. > :15:46.on if you can in moments like that. A big serve -- a big shot to fall
:15:47. > :16:15.back on. Yeah, they're not just watching this
:16:16. > :16:17.in the sunshine, fanning themselves, certainly on Centre Court, they are
:16:18. > :17:03.investing everything in this contest.
:17:04. > :17:12.APPLAUSE Vekic really showing Han here, hangs
:17:13. > :17:16.on. The longest game of the match so far. On we go in this opening set --
:17:17. > :17:34.Vekic really showing her metal heel. Just over the North West stand are
:17:35. > :17:46.the two support boxes of both players. Andrew in the red and Jill
:17:47. > :17:51.in the red top also, the physical trainer. Kim, there are just so many
:17:52. > :17:54.people these days in and around the tennis players, supporting them. I
:17:55. > :18:00.mean, they're actually going to have to build a bigger area at some
:18:01. > :18:06.point. It's extraordinary, isn't it? It is, and they just keep growing!
:18:07. > :18:15.There is a role for everybody these days. How many did you have in your
:18:16. > :18:21.support? I had, you know, Jade and my husband. I had the family but I
:18:22. > :18:28.usually have my coach and my physio. And that was it, I think, most of
:18:29. > :18:36.the time. Like I said, I didn't have a manager -- I did have a manager to
:18:37. > :19:40.help me in my day-to-day kind of schedule.
:19:41. > :20:30.There is a rather large Battle of wills going on out here. Two very
:20:31. > :20:31.determined athletes. I love Joanne's body language, between points as
:20:32. > :21:13.well, she stays very positive. Moving from side to side in the
:21:14. > :21:19.first point. Is that really what's required to break up the game of
:21:20. > :21:23.Vekic, crack this set open? I think that's going to be the key for
:21:24. > :21:53.Johanna today, to really stick to that game plan.
:21:54. > :22:04.APPLAUSE Two times through the middle. That
:22:05. > :22:09.shot on the one before that, straight at her. Is that a way that
:22:10. > :22:13.you would tackle Jo if you were out there on Centre Court, through the
:22:14. > :22:17.middle? I never used to use that shot, really. I just liked to make
:22:18. > :22:21.sure that I finished it off if I could! But a lot of players, it's a
:22:22. > :22:32.smart choice. A lot of players decide to pick a side anyway.
:22:33. > :22:54.APPLAUSE Here we go!
:22:55. > :23:06.So, just a couple of minutes shy of the hour. And Kim, you pointed out
:23:07. > :23:09.that he was on the phone, somebody has been taken unwell in the
:23:10. > :23:15.standstill is opposite the umpire, it was right in his byline. It's a
:23:16. > :23:21.very warm afternoon, we saw the somewhat at the French Open. They
:23:22. > :23:23.are right in the sun, too. But it's OK, the stewards are there very
:23:24. > :23:49.quickly. Within seconds. The person is just being led away.
:23:50. > :23:50.Really quick action by the stewards. A good spot by the umpire, just
:23:51. > :24:02.pulling the players into the chair. And I'm sure the person affected
:24:03. > :24:08.will get immediate medical treatment. They are always on
:24:09. > :24:12.stand-by here, they have a wonderful relationship with the club, a lot of
:24:13. > :24:15.support for all of the fans, thousands and thousands that come
:24:16. > :24:23.through the gates every day. This set deserves a tie-break.
:24:24. > :24:30.Where did you think this will go, Sam? Oh, I was staying well away
:24:31. > :24:39.from that! This is your job, Kim! I just call the score.
:24:40. > :24:51.First blow to Johanna Konta. I think the way Jo has been playing these
:24:52. > :24:55.last few games, since she was set points down, like we saw with the
:24:56. > :25:00.return, being a little bit more speed added to her shots. She
:25:01. > :25:04.stepped up. And she's really going for it. I think Jo is going to get
:25:05. > :25:26.this one. Well, there aren't too many clues
:25:27. > :25:30.from their Huybrechts records this year, if you are mainly interested
:25:31. > :25:35.in such things. So go from bad tie-break records. -- from their
:25:36. > :27:14.tie-break records. Smart serve there. Great for me. --
:27:15. > :27:18.great volley. Only 21, Vekic. Just turned 21. But she has been on the
:27:19. > :28:02.tour for at least five or six seasons.
:28:03. > :28:09.Came, and that tie-break, what do you really have to focus on -- came,
:28:10. > :28:16.is there anything in particular that you really have to kind of knuckle
:28:17. > :28:20.down? I think you want to try and keep your focus. You know, because
:28:21. > :28:25.you know how important it is to win that tie-break, to win that first
:28:26. > :28:30.set. So you don't want that emotion to take over. It's nerves or a bit
:28:31. > :28:36.of added pressure on you. You just want to keep going the way you're
:28:37. > :28:42.going. So sometimes a lot of players, they get a little bit, more
:28:43. > :28:46.and more stressed out there. This is the time that you really have to
:28:47. > :28:51.play well, and it sometimes has the opposite affect. And every point
:28:52. > :28:58.counts, well in excess of 80% of the matches on tour and at the slams are
:28:59. > :29:19.one -- won by the person who wins the first set, it is crucial.
:29:20. > :29:41.Here we see it perfectly how she moves her to the backhand, out of
:29:42. > :29:44.the backhand and then into the open court with the backhand down the
:29:45. > :30:33.line from Jo, that was very, very nice to see.
:30:34. > :30:39.It is the first to get to seven points with two points clear. Jo
:30:40. > :31:09.with a couple of serves to come. The serve out wide. You do not have
:31:10. > :31:10.to make it harder than it is. Two set points for the British number
:31:11. > :31:30.one. What a comeback from Konta. Great
:31:31. > :31:33.Britain one, Croatia and nail, as she takes the opening set by 7-6. --
:31:34. > :31:58.an ill. SUE BARKER: What a comeback. Two set
:31:59. > :32:05.points down. What a competitor. Let's quickly take you around the
:32:06. > :32:11.grounds. Another Brit, Aljaz Bedene, has taken the first set. He broke in
:32:12. > :32:15.the opening game of the second set but Damir Dzumhur has broken back in
:32:16. > :32:25.the second game. You can see that match on BBC Two.
:32:26. > :32:31.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is serving for a 2-0 lead against Simone Bolelli of
:32:32. > :32:34.Italy. A quarterfinalist last year and twice semifinalist, Jo-Wilfried
:32:35. > :32:39.Tsonga. That is the featured match on the red button. Another on the
:32:40. > :32:49.red button and BBC Sport website is Kei Nishikori, the number nine seed.
:32:50. > :32:51.US Open finalist in 2014. That is happening on Court Number One. We
:32:52. > :33:11.are heading back to Centre Court. I think we need a breather after
:33:12. > :33:15.that. We are happy to be in the Centre Court commentary box. It
:33:16. > :33:21.would be nice to have a cup of tea after all that. I am already happy
:33:22. > :33:26.with air conditioning in here! It was a high level first set, both
:33:27. > :33:35.pushing each other to the limit. The way Jo reacted when she was two set
:33:36. > :33:41.points down at 5-4 was impressive. She stayed positive, even more
:33:42. > :33:48.positive than Donna Vekic. A lot of good things. I am curious to see if
:33:49. > :33:52.she can keep it going and to see how Donna Vekic will react after such a
:33:53. > :34:01.close first set. The previous match they played it was an easy match. Jo
:34:02. > :34:10.was in control in the first set. They played a tie-break in the
:34:11. > :34:15.second set and Vekic won back. We had a mini heatwave in June. We had
:34:16. > :34:17.that in Belgium, as well. And we have another one the next couple of
:34:18. > :34:32.days. Vekic has headed off for a bathroom
:34:33. > :34:44.break, or a change of kit. We will have a longer than normal delay. I
:34:45. > :34:49.think there is a ladies' powder room just behind. It should not be too
:34:50. > :34:54.long. While we are looking at this court, you have played on it often.
:34:55. > :35:02.How does it differ in terms of environment and other courts at
:35:03. > :35:07.Wimbledon? It is a court you would like to play on a lot because you
:35:08. > :35:11.have to get used to the different environment and unfortunately you do
:35:12. > :35:16.not get that choice. It is an amazing court. From the moment you
:35:17. > :35:22.leave the locker room, from downstairs or upstairs, it is very
:35:23. > :35:30.special. It builds up your nerves and emotions a little bit. It is a
:35:31. > :35:34.part of history. I remember as a little girl seeing Steffi Graf take
:35:35. > :35:40.the walk, walking out onto Centre Court. When you are in that position
:35:41. > :35:47.yourself, it really does something to you. You came back for the
:35:48. > :35:54.opening and closing of the roof. That invitation, actually, helped me
:35:55. > :36:01.restart my comeback. You and Tim Henman against Steffi Graf and
:36:02. > :36:07.Andre. What a day. Amazing. A lot of good memories. Andre hit me very
:36:08. > :36:12.hard! Straight onto my stomach. I was close to the net. He smacked it
:36:13. > :37:02.as hard as he could and I did not have time to react.
:37:03. > :37:08.She saw that very well. She saw Jo was a little bit stepping back from
:37:09. > :38:33.the baseline. It is such an intense opening set. I
:38:34. > :38:37.wonder if that break where Vekic went off, it does not help the
:38:38. > :38:54.player sitting there. The lactic acid building up.
:38:55. > :39:01.Also for Jo, after winning a tight first set, you sit down and feel a
:39:02. > :39:02.little bit relaxed and relieved you won it and sometimes it takes time
:39:03. > :39:47.to get back into it. A great response from Vekic. We
:39:48. > :39:54.could be in for a long one here. So far the match has been going an hour
:39:55. > :39:58.and 15 minutes. We got you in here, we did not promise you a short
:39:59. > :40:08.match. One of the features of Centre Court is the Royal box. Looking at
:40:09. > :40:13.his programme, the former England cricket captain Andrew Strauss and,
:40:14. > :40:19.I believe, Bob Willis is here. Very much a sporting theme and if you
:40:20. > :40:26.like cricket, this might wash over you, but England and South Africa
:40:27. > :40:29.starts tomorrow morning from Lord's. Radio 5 Live Extra Test match
:40:30. > :40:34.special team will be there from 10:25am. Make sure you tune in just
:40:35. > :41:38.before Wimbledon. Jo Konta the sixth seed against the
:41:39. > :41:45.world number 58. The great illustration of the depth in
:41:46. > :41:46.winning's tennis these days. So many high-quality first round matches.
:41:47. > :42:13.This is a second-round match. A lot of people ask me about the
:42:14. > :42:17.women's draw being so open. After what happened in Paris, Ostapenko
:42:18. > :42:24.winning. It is great. Great to see who will step up and take their
:42:25. > :42:33.chance. It is now. You have retired! You would not have liked it back in
:42:34. > :42:37.the day. No, true. The strength and depth business is fine now you have
:42:38. > :42:43.your Grand Slam titles! There are people who say, why do you not come
:42:44. > :42:47.back? But no, that is definitely not happening. I think your husband and
:42:48. > :43:53.three children might have something to say about that!
:43:54. > :44:02.When you play a girl he likes to be aggressive from the first shot in
:44:03. > :44:05.the rally. It is important what Jo is doing, going out of her comfort
:44:06. > :44:18.zone, taking more risks from the return.
:44:19. > :44:29.It is as if Donna Vekic left the drop shots in her locker when she
:44:30. > :44:37.went for a bathroom break, she brought them back with her.
:44:38. > :44:45.That is a very good hold from Vekic. A different look to the start of the
:44:46. > :46:37.second set. I am hearing that there are flying
:46:38. > :46:49.ands all over Wimbledon at the moment. -- flying ants. It is
:46:50. > :46:54.something about when the Queen leaves the nest. We can see a lot of
:46:55. > :46:56.them. There are hundreds flying everywhere. I am sure some of them
:46:57. > :47:44.will be hit by a ball. A love hold. Needed by Johanna
:47:45. > :47:46.Konta. She is a break down in the second set. She took the first on a
:47:47. > :48:09.tie-break. SUE BARKER: We will be back with
:48:10. > :48:17.this match but we can show you on Court number 14 that Maria Sakkari
:48:18. > :48:24.has defeated Kristyna Pliskova. Winning 6-4 in the third set. She
:48:25. > :48:34.will face the winner of the match on Centre Court. Maria Sakkari through
:48:35. > :48:39.on Court 14. As Sam Smith said, these flies are around. This is
:48:40. > :48:45.Aljaz Bedene A. It is flying ant day. Daniel found out in the
:48:46. > :48:51.newspapers when the new Queen leaves the nest. Although it is flying ant
:48:52. > :48:57.day, it can go on for weeks. This is what is happening around Wimbledon.
:48:58. > :49:02.It is not just Centre Court. It is around all of the courts at
:49:03. > :49:09.Wimbledon. Flying ant day it is, but back we go to Centre Court.
:49:10. > :49:18.I have some effect if ant powder at home. Probably not enough time to go
:49:19. > :50:01.back and get it! It is very effective.
:50:02. > :50:38.Jo has spent years working with a top sports psychologists. She seems
:50:39. > :50:50.to apply herself very much in the mental part of the game.
:50:51. > :51:05.What is happening here? I think it was a great hold from Jo the
:51:06. > :51:12.previous game. During the change of ends, I saw Donna Vekic holding her
:51:13. > :51:24.head back and almost... A negative body language at the change of end.
:51:25. > :51:31.Where is Jo just days... She stays very positive. Even if she misses,
:51:32. > :51:35.down to love, she hangs in there, very focused, she does not give
:51:36. > :51:43.anything away. Body language wise, tennis wise, and hangs in there. I
:51:44. > :51:55.think that is maybe worrying Donna Vekic show little bit. -- Donna
:51:56. > :51:57.Vekic a little bit. After dropping the opening set, Vekic is competing
:51:58. > :52:26.hard here. It is a break back. Konta levels up
:52:27. > :52:55.in the second set. A fascinating second-round encounter
:52:56. > :52:57.in progress and Konta looking every inch the top ten player she has
:52:58. > :53:53.become the last couple of seasons. A great serve. What makes these
:53:54. > :54:00.serve so good? I think the placement. It is not the fastest,
:54:01. > :54:18.but she places it very well. Average first serve speed 105 mph. Around
:54:19. > :54:45.about the same for Vekic. 106. It all sounds pretty fast to me.
:54:46. > :54:57.The heavy ground strokes, she pushes her back and when she gets a little
:54:58. > :55:19.short, she tries to step in and opened it up and go for the lines.
:55:20. > :55:33.A couple of breaks in the opening set, two in the second. There might
:55:34. > :56:07.be another one just around the corner.
:56:08. > :56:53.Vekic back in charge in the second set. It is another break.
:56:54. > :57:01.Just away from this match, Serena Williams is not here this year, on
:57:02. > :57:06.maternity leave. She says she is coming back pretty soon after having
:57:07. > :57:11.the baby. You played after having your daughter. How long will it take
:57:12. > :57:17.her to get back? How will she co-quez-mac I saw images of her
:57:18. > :57:24.hitting a couple of days ago. -- how will she coped? The biggest
:57:25. > :57:29.difference. People ask me what I think will happen. The biggest
:57:30. > :57:36.difference is when I was pregnant, I did not think I would play again and
:57:37. > :57:41.I was away about two years. Like Azarenka, Serena, they both said,
:57:42. > :57:47.they are coming back as soon as they can after having the baby. I am
:57:48. > :57:52.curious to see how she will do and react body wise. I think they may
:57:53. > :58:00.have your number on speed dial. You may be getting some messages!
:58:01. > :58:55.Vekic up a break once more in this second set.
:58:56. > :59:03.She has been overheating it, the last couple of unforced errors. The
:59:04. > :59:04.level has been high. They feel at times they need to take a risk to
:59:05. > :59:17.win the point. We saw the chalk fly up. You have
:59:18. > :59:22.been away a while. It is not chalk any more. I heard it was something
:59:23. > :59:31.different. It is one of the oxide family. Titanium oxide. So that it
:59:32. > :59:41.lasts longer. But it still fluffs up, right? I saw white dust come up.
:59:42. > :59:43.The great thing is, when that happens, it there is still a line
:59:44. > :00:02.there. I remember when I started, and when
:00:03. > :00:06.I played juniors, there were courts where you could hardly see a line.
:00:07. > :00:16.Another thing that has improved since I have been gone. This is
:00:17. > :00:33.tough from Vekic. Trying not to let Konta comeback at her once again.
:00:34. > :00:37.Three great serves to get back to advantage for Vekic. She was ranked
:00:38. > :00:48.outside the top 100. She has been playing a lot of qualifying.
:00:49. > :01:24.Quite an assignment for Johanna Konta.
:01:25. > :01:31.There is something positive I would like to see, you can tell she is not
:01:32. > :01:35.even thinking about what happened in the first set. She has regrouped and
:01:36. > :03:12.focused on what is happening in this set.
:03:13. > :03:20.Better. Refusing to let Vekic get too far away. But still up a break
:03:21. > :03:39.in the second set, the Croatian. If you have popped out to your
:03:40. > :03:42.garden this afternoon or stuck your head out of the office window, you
:03:43. > :03:47.will know it is steaming hot. This is a site we normally see in
:03:48. > :03:54.Australia, the return of the ice towel. Just explain what the ice
:03:55. > :04:01.snake is. There are ice cubes inside the towel and they close them off
:04:02. > :04:06.both ends so they don't fall out. They make them wet and they keep
:04:07. > :04:15.them in the fridge or freezer. For as long as they can. They then take
:04:16. > :04:22.them out. They feel great. When you come out, especially in Australia
:04:23. > :04:28.also, when you are playing on hard courts, the heat coming from the
:04:29. > :04:34.court, it feels really nice. It feels nice on your legs and around
:04:35. > :04:42.your neck. You do look forward to that moment of rest and that cooling
:04:43. > :04:48.down. They were just made up very quickly and the lady's lower
:04:49. > :04:58.dressing room. That's ice is not for the minibar, by the way, that is for
:04:59. > :05:02.injuries! The trainers prepare them. They had to quickly do an impromptu
:05:03. > :05:06.one. That would never happen in Australia! Vekic for break in this
:05:07. > :05:59.second set. It is a very tough shot to handle.
:06:00. > :06:10.They are so deep and low, hard and flat.
:06:11. > :06:17.You just try to have to block them if you can. A lot of girls use that
:06:18. > :07:04.shot, straight down the middle. Try to go really deep and straight down.
:07:05. > :07:14.This has turned into a real arm wrestle. The players both refusing
:07:15. > :07:19.to budge. Over an hour for the first set. Konta finding herself in the
:07:20. > :09:18.same position as in the first, serving at 3-5.
:09:19. > :09:39.This is a tactic quite a few players use against Johanna Konta.
:09:40. > :09:47.I think it is also the combination of powerful ground strokes, to
:09:48. > :09:55.surprise her a little bit. To keep are aware that she is capable of
:09:56. > :09:59.mixing it up a little bit. It also throws her off her rhythm for the
:10:00. > :10:42.next point. Still got a game point here.
:10:43. > :10:48.You can't take your eyes off this match, the intensity and tempo
:10:49. > :10:59.hasn't dropped for even a second out here. Not at all.
:11:00. > :12:31.Super tough, Johanna Konta, keeps herself in the second set.
:12:32. > :12:39.Everyone on Henman Hill, Johanna Konta needs your support right now.
:12:40. > :12:43.She couldn't close out for the first. She is now serving for the
:12:44. > :14:19.second set, the level this match. Better from Konta, who has actually
:14:20. > :14:22.dropped her ground strokes speed in this second set. That is a
:14:23. > :15:32.significant reduction. What poise. That's the combination
:15:33. > :15:37.you try to practice a lot when you get the Wimbledon or before
:15:38. > :15:49.Wimbledon, served outside and then open up into the open court. A
:15:50. > :15:54.perfect example. That is long. What a fightback from Croatia's Donna
:15:55. > :16:02.Vekic. She takes the second set by six games to four.
:16:03. > :16:10.SUE BARKER: We knew this was a tricky opponent and Johanna Konta
:16:11. > :16:15.has a real battle on her hands. Coming up on Centre Court later,
:16:16. > :16:44.Britain's number one man. The latest chapter on his Wimbledon story.
:16:45. > :17:02.MUSIC: Believer by Imagine Dragons the waiting is over!
:17:03. > :17:16.Wimbledon champion again, a supreme performance.
:17:17. > :17:25.It has been an emotional journey and he has given us so much to cheer
:17:26. > :17:29.about. He was going through these exercises earlier today with his
:17:30. > :17:34.trainer. The training he goes through is exhausting. Then on
:17:35. > :17:40.court, watched by Ivan Lendl out on the practice court. Andy Murray
:17:41. > :17:47.warming up for his match. There is Ivan Lendl. Andy Murray playing
:17:48. > :17:52.Dustin Brown who is ranked 97 in the world but don't let that fool you.
:17:53. > :17:58.He loves to serve-volley. An attacking player. Could be a tricky
:17:59. > :17:59.one. A great entertainer. Andy Murray against Dustin Brown is
:18:00. > :18:09.second on Centre Court. Both players have left Centre Court
:18:10. > :18:15.at the moment. No great rush to go there. A very hot day. Almost 30
:18:16. > :18:21.degrees on Centre Court. Difficult and as we found out, it is a flying
:18:22. > :18:26.ants day and that seems to be all over Wimbledon. Every court is
:18:27. > :18:32.affected by those. Let's hope it is only for a day. We can now round up
:18:33. > :18:37.a couple of results for you. On Court Number Two, a short time ago,
:18:38. > :18:42.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, one of the most popular players at Wimbledon, 12th
:18:43. > :18:50.seed, went through in straight sets against Simona Bolelli. I wonder if
:18:51. > :18:52.he will give us his little celebration at the end, probably
:18:53. > :19:00.not, he seems to be quite low-key this year. Heather Watson is through
:19:01. > :19:11.stop what a wonderful victory for her, putting at the 18th seed from
:19:12. > :19:15.Latvia, Anastasija Sevastova. Dropped out of the world's top 100
:19:16. > :19:21.but she will be racing up the rankings when they are announced
:19:22. > :19:23.after the Championships. Big celebration and smiles from Heather
:19:24. > :19:32.Watson. She is back in the third round. She is through the face
:19:33. > :19:45.Victoria Azarenka. She came through against the 15th seed Elena Vesnina.
:19:46. > :19:48.Former world number one, 6-3, 6-3, Victoria Azarenka goes through. And
:19:49. > :19:57.she will play Heather Watson in the next round. One other result to
:19:58. > :20:06.bring you, Maria Sakkari of Greece has put out the twin sister of
:20:07. > :20:17.Karolina Pliskova. While we await the players on Centre
:20:18. > :20:22.Court, we can update you with what is happening on court number three.
:20:23. > :20:44.Aljaz Bedene of Great Britain up against his great friend Dzumhur.
:20:45. > :21:03.Kei Nishikori made a fightback in the second set against Sergiy
:21:04. > :21:07.Stakhovsky, the player who put out Roger Federer a few years ago. It
:21:08. > :21:12.was a break of serve down for Nishikori and he broke back and then
:21:13. > :21:18.lost that second set tie-break. He lost it 9-7.
:21:19. > :21:33.A very hot day and Donna Vekic is back but Johanna Konta is not. Sam
:21:34. > :21:40.and Kim, are we sure what is happening? Is this because of the
:21:41. > :21:47.heat or just a comfort break? They have just gone for a break. The heat
:21:48. > :21:55.rule is not in. The umpire would have said at the start. This is a
:21:56. > :22:02.long time. It is. It will almost turn into a heat break. Which is ten
:22:03. > :22:11.minutes. We have been at six minutes so far. It is an unofficial heat
:22:12. > :22:16.rule. To have a little break like this is always tough for the person
:22:17. > :22:20.who is going to have to start serving at the beginning of the set.
:22:21. > :22:26.You kind of lose your rhythm a little bit. You have been sitting
:22:27. > :22:33.down. That is why sometimes you see players wrap a few balls and hit
:22:34. > :22:40.some serves anyway to try to stay in your rhythm. Here she comes.
:22:41. > :22:46.It is almost like this match deserves a third set. The level has
:22:47. > :22:56.been so high. These girls have been playing some really good tennis. It
:22:57. > :23:00.will be Konta to serve. They keep it very simple, drink water, apply
:23:01. > :23:14.sunscreen and wear a hat. That is the message from the score board.
:23:15. > :23:24.Just as they did in Nottingham, a third set.
:23:25. > :23:31.Just had a look over the Donna Vekic and it is nice to see stands
:23:32. > :24:20.cheering her on a little and motivating her.
:24:21. > :24:30.What's the plan here for Konta? I think here, what helped her win the
:24:31. > :24:34.first set, and the statistics said she was taking some speed off the
:24:35. > :24:36.ground stroke. She has Demi Schuurs she stayed aggressive enough variety
:24:37. > :24:53.into the direction of her shots. -- she has to make sure she stays
:24:54. > :24:57.aggressive. It has been a 50-50 matches and they have gone the
:24:58. > :25:07.distance this year. Won six, lost six. That is a really good start to
:25:08. > :26:26.this deciding set. Emphatic serve from the British number one.
:26:27. > :26:36.There have been very few hawk-eyed challenges this afternoon.
:26:37. > :26:55.UMPIRE: Row Ms Konta as two challenges remaining. He is my
:26:56. > :27:07.favourite umpire. He gets away with the shades!
:27:08. > :27:22.A little slip there. This caught playing extremely well, though. It
:27:23. > :27:38.has been baked hard over the next few days.
:27:39. > :27:45.This is what happens when you are right at the top, everyone
:27:46. > :27:51.scrutinising you, where your weaknesses are.
:27:52. > :27:58.The playbook on Konta is, bring her in when you can. The 21-year-old
:27:59. > :28:15.going very nicely here. In all the excitement, we have
:28:16. > :28:20.forgotten about the flying ants but I think they have gone somewhere
:28:21. > :28:28.else away from Centre Court. We are of course hermetically sealed. The
:28:29. > :28:32.Queen has flown off somewhere else! We are hermetically sealed in our
:28:33. > :28:36.commentary box, perfect temperatures in here. We forget how hard it is
:28:37. > :28:40.playing in these conditions, especially with flying insects all
:28:41. > :28:45.over the place. But they have definitely gone somewhere else. We
:28:46. > :29:01.have got an ant whisperer at the club! It wouldn't surprise me.
:29:02. > :29:08.LAUGHTER Some friendly fire from Vekic. This
:29:09. > :29:12.is being played in very good spirits. Even before the match, they
:29:13. > :30:21.were talking and laughing with each other. It is nice to see.
:30:22. > :30:31.That is another clean service came from Konta. -- service game. Looking
:30:32. > :30:40.very positive at the start of this final set.
:30:41. > :30:55.This matches into its third hour. When it is this tight, what usually
:30:56. > :30:59.decides it? I think what was important to me was knowing I did
:31:00. > :31:04.enough work in the off-season, in the preparation leading up to a big
:31:05. > :31:09.tournament, where you know that you do not have to worry about being fit
:31:10. > :31:17.enough to handle these circumstances, the heat, playing a
:31:18. > :31:23.match that is going over three hours, about two... Just over two.
:31:24. > :31:27.But we could be here three hours. We are giving you a gentle introduction
:31:28. > :31:33.to the Centre Court at the BBC. That is something that is a great
:31:34. > :31:37.feeling, knowing that, OK, I have done work outs with the trainer,
:31:38. > :31:45.fitness coach, that are harder than this. You have only to worry about
:31:46. > :31:49.the tennis part. At the same time you try to keep things simple and
:31:50. > :31:57.focus on what you have to do on court. What I have admired the most
:31:58. > :32:03.about Jo today is the body language. You cannot tell whether she is up or
:32:04. > :32:07.down. Her reaction after losing the second serve was the same -- second
:32:08. > :33:31.set, as after winning the first set. Just one point lost behind this
:33:32. > :33:48.deciding set. This set is looking more like amen's
:33:49. > :33:53.match so far. You called for Konta to win the first, do you have
:33:54. > :33:58.feelings about who will progress here? You seem happy to club for one
:33:59. > :34:04.or the other? I don't mind, my feeling goes towards Konta. We will
:34:05. > :35:49.see how she deals with the pressure. Again she used the drop shot
:35:50. > :35:54.smartly. She feels Jo is just retreating a little bit. Taking a
:35:55. > :35:57.step back from her position behind the baseline. Some very smart
:35:58. > :36:20.choices she is making. Almost in double figures for aces in
:36:21. > :36:56.this match. Really dominating in the decider.
:36:57. > :37:30.Konta pushes ahead once more. Around this court there are Hawk-Eye
:37:31. > :37:34.that the information. Kim, there is a difference between where Konta was
:37:35. > :37:41.hitting in the first set to the second and third sets. It is. It may
:37:42. > :37:51.not look like a big difference, but it is something that Donna Vekic is
:37:52. > :37:57.feeling. Using drop shots more. Feeling Konta is a little further
:37:58. > :38:02.back behind the baseline. She feels that. She has been using the drop
:38:03. > :38:08.shot really well. I think if Jo wants to stay on top of this third
:38:09. > :38:15.set, she will have to step in, maybe one step closer. Again, that is
:38:16. > :38:22.easier said than done because the shots from Vekic are coming to her
:38:23. > :38:27.hard and fast. She wants to give herself a little more time, as well.
:38:28. > :38:32.You just have to make sure you still put enough pressure on your
:38:33. > :38:34.opponent. Sometimes that is harder to do when you are further behind
:38:35. > :40:04.the baseline. She had to be careful that not only
:40:05. > :40:12.did she not touch the net, but you are not allowed to lean over the net
:40:13. > :40:16.and go fetch the ball. You have to wait for the ball to come over the
:40:17. > :40:24.tape. The umpire is on the line, he can see you. She knew she had to be
:40:25. > :40:38.careful. And she knew the umpire would not miss that one.
:40:39. > :41:55.We showed you what was happening to Jo's court position. This is Vekic
:41:56. > :42:01.in comparison to the sets. The question is what happened first? Did
:42:02. > :42:05.Jo take a step back which made Donna Vekic step in and be more
:42:06. > :42:11.aggressive, or did Jo step back because she was stepping in a little
:42:12. > :42:13.bit? Interesting stats. I wish I had these when I played because it helps
:42:14. > :42:47.are not. -- it helps you a lot. They always talk about the
:42:48. > :42:56.importance of the seventh game in the set. Back in the day they did.
:42:57. > :43:06.When I was little. In the era of Dan Maskell. Actually originally it was
:43:07. > :43:13.Bill Tildon who spoke about that the first time.
:43:14. > :43:22.Whoever said it, it is pretty important.
:43:23. > :43:56.Bill, the great American player. In the 30s and 40s.
:43:57. > :44:02.She saw Donna pick a side. She ran off to the right. Easy shot into the
:44:03. > :44:40.open court. She had to adjust a little bit with
:44:41. > :44:45.the net chord, but she handled it well.
:44:46. > :45:04.Not a glimpse of a break in the deciding set. Once again, Jo Konta
:45:05. > :45:54.pushes ahead. On serve in this final set.
:45:55. > :46:01.I think there will be an awful lot of barley water drunk. You probably
:46:02. > :46:07.do not know what it is but we grew up on it in this country. It is a
:46:08. > :46:12.kind of lemon squash. You can get it in different flavours. It is one of
:46:13. > :46:19.the very few sponsors you will see on the Centre Court. They do not
:46:20. > :46:24.really have advertising. It is one of the things that is really
:46:25. > :46:27.special, another thing that is special and unique about this
:46:28. > :46:30.Championships. You cannot go wrong with a drop of barley water. I will
:46:31. > :46:52.have to try it. It is worth remembering that Donna
:46:53. > :47:01.Vekic, her ranking of 58 in the world, she has only had one of the
:47:02. > :47:11.top ten win, against Cibulkova. She is not someone that has readily
:47:12. > :47:16.beaten the world's best. She is on the biggest of stages and this is a
:47:17. > :47:25.50-50 contests. She is playing one of the matches of her life. And
:47:26. > :47:36.serving very well. Matching Jo in the ace department. Nine apiece.
:47:37. > :47:43.There was a piece of paper. It has flown onto court underneath the
:47:44. > :48:24.commentary box. It looks like the ants have come
:48:25. > :48:29.back a little bit. Both players are trying to hit them off their arm.
:48:30. > :48:47.They are back. They heard us talking!
:48:48. > :49:03.A familiar theme with the service hold from Vekic. No breaks so far in
:49:04. > :49:17.this deciding set. I think bug is putting on some bug spray. It is
:49:18. > :49:21.hot. The ball boys and all girls in the foreign Legion hats. Made very
:49:22. > :49:36.popular back in the day by Ivan Lendl.
:49:37. > :49:45.UMPIRE: Miss Vekic is challenging the ball on the left. The ball was
:49:46. > :49:50.called in. They are zero for four on challenges, between them. The lines
:49:51. > :49:52.men and women of the Centre Court have done a stellar job this
:49:53. > :50:29.afternoon. As we get to the business end, it
:50:30. > :50:30.might be worth mentioning neither woman has been beyond the second
:50:31. > :50:40.round. Vekic made the second round here
:50:41. > :51:01.three years ago. It is funny because she is seen as
:51:02. > :51:46.one of the favourites to win this year.
:51:47. > :51:59.That is just the third point behind Konta's serve that she has dropped.
:52:00. > :52:19.Vekic has only lost three. It has been dominated by that weapon.
:52:20. > :52:24.Yet another easy service hold as Konta edges ever closer to a place
:52:25. > :52:46.in the third round. Kim, how hard is it breaking new
:52:47. > :52:51.territory? Going into the third round of a Grand Slam for the first
:52:52. > :52:58.time, what keeps your head together? I do not think for the player it is
:52:59. > :53:06.hard. There is so much talk about it. So we make a big deal of it?
:53:07. > :53:11.Yes. For Jo, it is a different situation playing at Wimbledon
:53:12. > :53:16.because she is playing at home. But we know it is another tournament and
:53:17. > :53:22.it is hard to win matches and you really try to focus on trying to
:53:23. > :53:26.play good tennis and try not to get distracted by everything else
:53:27. > :53:31.happening around you and what people are talking about and people putting
:53:32. > :53:37.you in favour positions, putting you in the semifinals, finals of Grand
:53:38. > :53:45.Slams. I used to get questions asked like that all the time, even before
:53:46. > :53:49.the tournament started. A potential quarterfinal, semifinal against
:53:50. > :53:55.Serena. It made me laugh. It is hard to get to those situations. You do
:53:56. > :54:03.not want to get distracted. You try to keep your focus on winning each
:54:04. > :54:05.round. Two and a half hours of a thrilling contests. Vekic is serving
:54:06. > :54:25.to stay in the second round. Stan is moving around a lot in his
:54:26. > :55:52.chair. Another easy hold. He must be very
:55:53. > :55:59.proud of Donna. Levelling up with another service hold. I said the
:56:00. > :56:01.first set deserved a tie-break. We will not get that in the final set.
:56:02. > :56:48.They will have to go the distance. CHEERING
:56:49. > :56:56.The acceleration of the arm. It is a fabulous camera. About 1000
:56:57. > :56:59.frames per second for that shot. An average TV camera is about 25 frames
:57:00. > :59:28.per second. The forehand down the line. A couple
:59:29. > :59:33.of points ago, the backhand winner down the line. Vekic trying to make
:59:34. > :00:17.something happen here. She pushed her back a little bit
:00:18. > :00:26.with the deeper, higher shot. She stepped in. And finished it off. She
:00:27. > :01:01.is trying to go for a little bit more here. Pressure here for Konta.
:01:02. > :01:06.APPLAUSE CHEERING
:01:07. > :01:14.Never in doubt, so solid, the British number one. She's ahead once
:01:15. > :01:30.more in this set. On serve. Konta could win by 6-5.
:01:31. > :01:43.Come on, give us a wave! A long afternoon on Henman Hill. Hope
:01:44. > :01:49.you're all enjoying yourselves. When I arrived this morning to practice,
:01:50. > :01:55.the girl that I'm helping, we saw all the people ran to Henman Hill,
:01:56. > :02:01.Murray Mount, what do you call it these days? I think it's still
:02:02. > :02:06.Henman Hill. That's how I knew it. They just ran up and tried to get
:02:07. > :02:18.the best seat up there. It was packed pretty quickly. For many, it
:02:19. > :02:27.is the best seat in the house. I'm sure when Konta gets up, Henman
:02:28. > :02:32.Hill, to the north of this Centre Court, I'm sure when Konta comes out
:02:33. > :02:44.there will be an enormous roar from the Hill.
:02:45. > :02:53.This has just been such a wonderful contest, absorbing all of your
:02:54. > :02:56.Wednesday afternoon. The second time new balls, serving to stay in this
:02:57. > :03:18.match. It's the first time I've actually
:03:19. > :03:20.seen her look over to her box little bit and be a little bit distressed
:03:21. > :04:08.with a mistake that she's made. The pair of them have hit almost 100
:04:09. > :04:09.winners in the match so far. Very few unforced errors. High-quality
:04:10. > :04:43.contest. Why you have a winning their service
:04:44. > :04:47.so easily? They are both serving well. Simple as that? Let's not
:04:48. > :05:07.overanalyse it. Both of them I sing their service
:05:08. > :05:13.games with aces. Stand sitting a little more comfortable in our as
:05:14. > :05:22.his girlfriend levels up. On we go. -- Stan sitting a little more
:05:23. > :05:26.comfortably. The player box. They have to sit there, they can't go
:05:27. > :06:39.anywhere. At least they are sitting in the shade.
:06:40. > :06:51.What appoint! 0-30 now. Really great tennis we're seeing. The ball just
:06:52. > :07:31.skimming the net. Vekic got to it and kept it really
:07:32. > :07:52.low, so made it hard for Donna with that shot.
:07:53. > :08:23.She likes to use that serve out wide.
:08:24. > :08:29.Fabulous combination hitting from Donna Vekic. Very first break point
:08:30. > :09:33.of this deciding set. Not a flicker from Konta coming into
:09:34. > :09:38.this match. Huge title in diameter. The semifinal in Eastbourne, in
:09:39. > :10:14.Nottingham. Everything in the balance right here.
:10:15. > :10:29.Hotel in the stripey top. Mum Gabrielle is probably watching this
:10:30. > :10:32.on TV. -- Dad in the stripey top. Konta hangs on in this final set.
:10:33. > :10:55.Relief from the player box. See the linesman get a little break.
:10:56. > :11:01.Players can have a break. Ball boys and ball girls. But we're still
:11:02. > :11:07.here, Kim. And it's a pleasure to watch it really is a privilege.
:11:08. > :11:15.Getting down to the nitty-gritty, what is going to decide this? I have
:11:16. > :11:22.to ask. I saw there was a little bit of conversation, or sign language
:11:23. > :11:29.going on, between Joe and the coach. Like she was asking almost, what can
:11:30. > :11:37.I do, what can I do? How can I break? Keep it easy, stay simple.
:11:38. > :11:42.There's not much you can say. You know Wim, he worked with you, what
:11:43. > :11:46.do you think you might have said? I think he would just try to keep her
:11:47. > :11:56.calm. There's really nothing you can say. I think maybe he meant, make
:11:57. > :12:05.sure you stepped in to do the return. Don't get into defensively.
:12:06. > :12:13.There hasn't been a break since the fifth game of the second set. Vekic
:12:14. > :12:47.for a third time serving to stay in this final set.
:12:48. > :12:50.Just a little tumble, nothing like what happened at Eastbourne last
:12:51. > :13:08.week. If you didn't see what happened at
:13:09. > :13:10.Eastbourne, well, it was a couple of points before beating Angelique
:13:11. > :13:22.Kerber, an absolute flyer on her back.
:13:23. > :14:03.She's very much held her emotions in check, Donna. There is a fire
:14:04. > :14:44.inside. There is. You have to admire the nerve of this
:14:45. > :15:25.young Croatian. Big reaction from Vekic. Neither
:15:26. > :16:06.woman is budging here. It's amazing. It was that deep return again that
:16:07. > :17:46.that the last winner up. The ball is called in. Rather
:17:47. > :17:51.hopeful challenge there from Vekic. Thinking they hadn't bothered with
:17:52. > :18:01.hot guy. It's plum. -- hadn't bothered with Hawk-Eye.
:18:02. > :18:10.Magnificent. I think I would have challenged that one, though. It's
:18:11. > :18:42.close. What resilience from Jo Konta. Still
:18:43. > :19:27.on serve in this final set. Konta ahead once more.
:19:28. > :19:39.He's so about this sport. Picked up the game at six years of age,
:19:40. > :19:45.growing up on the beaches of Sydney down in Australia. Move to England
:19:46. > :19:47.with her parents aged 14 and everything has been about her
:19:48. > :19:59.becoming the best tennis player in the world. Do you know what the
:20:00. > :20:06.reason was why she wanted to change nationalities? Because Australia has
:20:07. > :20:13.a very big tennis history as well, so... I think she lost the support
:20:14. > :20:50.of tennis Australia. Really? Decided it was time for a move. OK.
:20:51. > :21:07.There you go, 0-30. The crowd feels this might be her chance. They know.
:21:08. > :21:23.Vekic desperately needs a first serve here. She does. Neither player
:21:24. > :21:29.deserves to lose this one. Their resilience has been extraordinary
:21:30. > :22:14.out here. Three hours they've been on this Centre Court this afternoon.
:22:15. > :22:21.Just like Konta in the previous game, they were down, then came up
:22:22. > :22:44.with some really big serves to turn it around in the game.
:22:45. > :22:58.On we go. Both having to come back from 0-30. Just trying to find some
:22:59. > :23:00.shade. The north end is where they park the roof. The Royal box is all
:23:01. > :24:03.covered up. Again, for a second successive game,
:24:04. > :24:55.Konta at 0-30. Again she comes up with a great
:24:56. > :25:20.serve. We're going to have to flip a coin at this rate.
:25:21. > :25:24.I wonder how many times Andy Murray has been warming up in the last few
:25:25. > :25:49.hours. She tries again. Both are running
:25:50. > :25:57.out of options. They are desperate to try and decide this final set.
:25:58. > :26:01.It's into its fourth hour. Vekic. A lot of break point in the 13th game.
:26:02. > :26:30.She's got one more here. Could it be decisive?
:26:31. > :26:54.You've got to remember it is extreme temperatures for Great Britain, a
:26:55. > :26:56.high of 27 degrees. You'd never know it the way these two are going at
:26:57. > :27:43.it. You sense millimetres are going to
:27:44. > :27:47.decide the outcome of this match. Stan 's reaction, he is feeling it
:27:48. > :28:23.too. CHEERING
:28:24. > :28:59.APPLAUSE Konta composes, hangs on. What a
:29:00. > :29:03.difficult service game that was for the British number one. Again, ahead
:29:04. > :29:17.in this final set. It's all very comfortable for us. In
:29:18. > :29:23.our climate controlled commentary box. It must be brutal out there. Is
:29:24. > :29:26.it going to be physical, mental, emotional, Kim? What would you say
:29:27. > :29:30.would be the deciding factor and what time will we be able to go for
:29:31. > :29:37.tea? I think it's a combination of all three things. Little bit of luck
:29:38. > :29:46.maybe can come into play as well. But yeah... Still, I'm still going,
:29:47. > :29:52.I still think Konta is going to end up pulling it her way. But... Just
:29:53. > :29:58.because she seems more consistent. Donna has been playing great tennis,
:29:59. > :30:01.and when she's been down in her service game, especially the last
:30:02. > :30:03.two, she's done well, served well. But I don't know if she's going to
:30:04. > :30:19.be able to keep that going. It will be a very long afternoon for
:30:20. > :30:22.Andy Murray, coming up next. That is the problem with tennis, you never
:30:23. > :30:32.know. It is not like a football match. I think Andy will have had
:30:33. > :30:36.two pre-game meal is by now. And plenty of stretching, for the fifth
:30:37. > :30:45.time Vekic is serving to stay in the second-round match.
:30:46. > :31:57.Really stepping in and taking it to Vekic. Once again, just two points
:31:58. > :32:41.away from the win. It has been a battle royale. Match
:32:42. > :33:49.point. A titanic battle a couple of weeks
:33:50. > :33:50.ago on the grass of Nottingham. This surface is surpassing even that
:33:51. > :35:16.contest. Both acknowledging what a contest
:35:17. > :35:29.this has been over the last three hours. You can never write the
:35:30. > :35:37.script for a tennis match. This is almost the perfect script. We were
:35:38. > :35:42.very lucky. We saw some great tennis. Both girls played, I think,
:35:43. > :35:47.at that highest level. They really bring it out of each other. What's
:35:48. > :35:53.more, we saw a great sporting contest as well. Vekic, the
:35:54. > :35:58.brilliant teenager coming back to her best. This will be hard to take,
:35:59. > :36:04.but she has shown is that all the potential we saw a few years ago...
:36:05. > :36:20.Oh, dear. She will be back here. What a wonderful player.
:36:21. > :36:30.Konta, you would not think she had played for over three hours. Waving
:36:31. > :36:36.to the Royal box. Into the gym to cool off. Take an ice bath and
:36:37. > :36:41.stretch. Andy can finally say, I am ready to go. I am sure there's
:36:42. > :36:46.Centre Court will want a break, but brilliant from Konta, through to the
:36:47. > :36:55.third round for the very first time at Wimbledon in six attempts.
:36:56. > :37:00.Kim, it has been great having your company. Thanks. It was quite an
:37:01. > :37:29.initiation. Johanna, what a great match. Can you
:37:30. > :37:34.describe hazardous buying a performance that was? To be honest,
:37:35. > :37:38.it is not quite sunk in. Right now it is a nice feeling not having to
:37:39. > :37:42.keep going. We were out there for a long time and both battled
:37:43. > :37:49.incredibly hard, whoever was going to come out, whoever was going to
:37:50. > :37:53.draw the short straw was going to be hurting, I feel fortunate. You two
:37:54. > :37:57.have thought a couple of great battles over the last couple of
:37:58. > :38:02.weeks, which qualities saw you over the line in the third set? I trusted
:38:03. > :38:07.my game more this time against her than necessarily last time. I think
:38:08. > :38:12.she played better today than last time, same goes for me. The quality
:38:13. > :38:18.of the match day was very high. She served incredibly well, it was very
:38:19. > :38:23.difficult to return well for me. I am very happy to have saved a couple
:38:24. > :38:27.of break points and some of the 0-30 I service games, very happy to have
:38:28. > :38:31.come through. It is great to have you in the third round at Wimbledon
:38:32. > :38:35.for the first time, how much more is there to come from you in terms of
:38:36. > :38:39.performance this year? I am looking to compete at my best every single
:38:40. > :38:44.match. I have given myself an opportunity to play another round at
:38:45. > :38:52.Wimbledon and will give my all. I am here with the intention of wanting
:38:53. > :38:55.to be part of the event for the full two weeks, but as you saw out there,
:38:56. > :38:58.every single player plays at a very high level on any given day so there
:38:59. > :39:03.is no easy match and I am grateful to have another go. Can you describe
:39:04. > :39:08.how important the crowd was today for you? Incredible. And the amount
:39:09. > :39:12.of respect they showed my opponent. The crowd at Wimbledon is really
:39:13. > :39:17.quite magnificent. The arena itself is one of the best in the world.
:39:18. > :39:28.Very well played, many congratulations. Thank you.
:39:29. > :39:32.SUE BARKER: Three hours and ten minutes, so tense. We have talked so
:39:33. > :39:38.often about what a great match player she was and she had to come
:39:39. > :39:42.back from 0-30 down on the serve of Vekic, a very emotional time on
:39:43. > :39:47.Centre Court for both players. You really feel for Donna Vekic because
:39:48. > :39:51.she played her part in a fantastic match, but you have to salute this
:39:52. > :39:56.young lady, with all the pressure of being British number one, coming
:39:57. > :40:02.here coming coming to an absolute battle and winning in three close
:40:03. > :40:09.sets. What a match! Tim, how good was that?! Fantastic. Both players,
:40:10. > :40:14.the quality of tennis was so good from .1, and in that final set they
:40:15. > :40:19.both had 0-30, they were looking for that opportunity and four Jo to come
:40:20. > :40:23.through on this court in front of the home fans, it will do a massive
:40:24. > :40:27.amount for her confidence. She proved a lot to us and probably
:40:28. > :40:33.herself, when the battle was intense she delivered the shots. Very much
:40:34. > :40:37.so, they have recent history playing in the final at Nottingham, which
:40:38. > :40:42.Vekic came through. Jo was looking for revenge on the biggest stage.
:40:43. > :40:46.They both played a very good match, it is very hot here to play three
:40:47. > :40:51.hours and ten minutes, she will probably be jumping into an ice bath
:40:52. > :40:54.to get her recovery right. She is not interested in just winning a
:40:55. > :41:02.great match, she wants to go deep into the second week. She has not
:41:03. > :41:05.done it so far so she has proved a lot to herself, first time through
:41:06. > :41:09.to the third-round but she is very different this year. She made a
:41:10. > :41:12.great breakthrough in Melbourne, the Australian Open, making the
:41:13. > :41:16.semifinals. That was a great achievement in itself, but being
:41:17. > :41:21.British and playing at home, it has a different intensity. To get
:41:22. > :41:24.through to the third-round in these circumstances, I think she will feel
:41:25. > :41:29.so good about the win and hopefully it will be the foundation to build
:41:30. > :41:34.on. She is coming back to try to get through to the second week and it
:41:35. > :41:38.will be a great story to follow. In the interview she said how much the
:41:39. > :41:44.crowd helped, if you use the crowd, like you did, it can be a factor?
:41:45. > :41:48.Definitely, in those important moments where you can be nervous or
:41:49. > :41:53.struggling with the energy levels, you have to use the crowd. They
:41:54. > :41:56.cannot only give you a lift but your opponent on the other side of the
:41:57. > :42:04.net appeals they are playing against you but also in here. That feels
:42:05. > :42:08.they are playing. She has the mental capacity not to be overawed but have
:42:09. > :42:12.the clarity of thought to pick her spots. The quality of serving was
:42:13. > :42:17.fantastic. That will always be an important shot on grass. Great for
:42:18. > :42:22.Jo, but well done to Donna Vekic, who played a fantastic match. Only
:42:23. > :42:27.young and you can see how upset she was at the end, it is heartbreaking.
:42:28. > :42:31.It is an amazing reaction from both of them at the net, they respect
:42:32. > :42:36.each other as people and players and after three hours and ten minutes of
:42:37. > :42:40.going head to heads, there was a lot of emotion. It is great to see a lot
:42:41. > :42:45.of respect from the crowd towards both players but also the respect
:42:46. > :42:49.amongst the two players. It has been a good day for British tennis so
:42:50. > :42:56.far, out earlier today, Heather Watson came through in her match
:42:57. > :43:00.against the 18th seed Anastasia Sevastova of Latvia, 6-0, 6-4. She
:43:01. > :43:05.had dropped outside the top hundred in the world but has really found
:43:06. > :43:09.her form on the grass courts, making it through to the semifinals of
:43:10. > :43:14.Eastbourne last week and through to the third-round. It is lovely to see
:43:15. > :43:18.this big smile back on the face of Heather Watson. Remember her playing
:43:19. > :43:22.Serena Williams on Centre Court two years ago, two points from winning
:43:23. > :43:31.the match. We expected great things from Heather, hopefully she will
:43:32. > :43:33.deliver again this year. Was on Court number two. Two women through
:43:34. > :43:38.to the third-round of these championships. A short time ago,
:43:39. > :43:46.Alijaz Bedene came through in four seats, defeating Damir Dzumhur
:43:47. > :43:51.Bosnia, 6-3, 6-3. And he beat either Karlovic in the first round, the big
:43:52. > :43:56.Serbian. He has Giles Miller, the 16th seed, in the next round. He
:43:57. > :44:02.will have another big server to face. This two are really good
:44:03. > :44:06.friends, Alijaz lent him some whites for his opening round, he did not
:44:07. > :44:12.have any white tennis clothing. They are really good friends, he probably
:44:13. > :44:22.did not lend it today! We have just been celebrating so much British
:44:23. > :44:26.success, Mac? I am worried the Murray, Dustin Brown has had a
:44:27. > :44:31.couple more hours to think of good shots in the locker room. That match
:44:32. > :44:36.was pretty exciting, the two ladies went at it big time. It was long. It
:44:37. > :44:44.looked like Vekic was about to fall over. It was high-quality tennis,
:44:45. > :44:47.tense moments? Watching a lot of that match, lots of the women
:44:48. > :44:55.players would go back to the drawing board and will Daesh drawing boards
:44:56. > :45:02.and work more on their service. -- would go back to the drawing board
:45:03. > :45:08.and work some more on their servers. It makes life easier. We would like
:45:09. > :45:13.to take a breather but we can't, Andy Murray is on his way, we hear
:45:14. > :45:18.they are making their way to Centre Court. That's familiar route that he
:45:19. > :45:23.walks with Dustin Brown, who has the headphones on. Tim, Dustin Brown
:45:24. > :45:28.will love this? Here's a showman and wants the big stage? He certainly
:45:29. > :45:31.is. Here's an experienced campaigner, he has had big wins here
:45:32. > :45:48.before so he will not be intimidated the occasion. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.
:45:49. > :45:54.A BIG OVATION FOR ANDY MURRAY, THE DEFENDING CHAMPION. IT IS A PRETTY
:45:55. > :45:57.FULL HOUSE IN THE SHADED PART OF CENTRE COURT, BUT EVERYBODY IN THE
:45:58. > :46:07.SUN HAS BEEN HAVING A BREATHER, TEMPERATURES ARE UP TO 30 DEGREES.
:46:08. > :46:11.This is my 40th year coming to Wimbledon, I cannot recall the heat
:46:12. > :46:17.is being as much of a factor, and the flies or ants or whatever they
:46:18. > :46:21.are. I would think that would help Murray, it will be tougher to do it
:46:22. > :46:26.for as long as effectively. Brown is an attacking player and tries to
:46:27. > :46:32.make things happen quickly, needs lots of explosion in his legs off
:46:33. > :46:36.the serve and the shots he heads, it remains to be seen. We need a heat
:46:37. > :46:41.index, if we were in Australia and you said it is 30, you would say,
:46:42. > :46:47.perfect conditions. You get 30 degrees here and it feels like about
:46:48. > :46:53.40. It has been hot. Lets meet Andy Murray's opponents, he is quite a
:46:54. > :47:01.character but he also has very good tennis pedigree, as Phil Jones found
:47:02. > :47:04.out. It has nothing to do with trying to
:47:05. > :47:10.be exciting or flashy or anything, I want to be aggressive and go to the
:47:11. > :47:11.net, that is how I play. That is my tennis, if people like it, that is a
:47:12. > :47:28.nice thing. COMMENTATOR: Mark that one down at
:47:29. > :47:36.shot of the day! The win of his career. Another dream come true.
:47:37. > :47:41.I'm going to have to try to play the same way, play aggressive. Andy is
:47:42. > :47:46.one of the best return is out there, going to have do try to find a way.
:47:47. > :47:49.Have to be aggressive and not have him play the type of game he wants
:47:50. > :47:54.to play. Will it be a different challenge to you if you play Andy,
:47:55. > :48:02.you are used to being a crowd favourite? And instead I won't be.
:48:03. > :48:06.-- who said I won't be?! SUE BARKER: He fancies his chances, he thinks he
:48:07. > :48:12.will be a favourite. He will win over some fans. He has a good sense
:48:13. > :48:15.of humour. He is definitely a character. There are not handing
:48:16. > :48:21.many people in the locker room where they go out of the way to see what a
:48:22. > :48:25.guy has to offer -- there are not that many people in the locker room.
:48:26. > :48:31.All the players love him, from what I see, the fans love him, he plays
:48:32. > :48:40.old school, which is nice for Tim and I! He is carrying about five
:48:41. > :48:47.extra lbs with his hair, but I do not think that will factor. He has
:48:48. > :48:52.the firepower in his game to look to move forward. Against Murray, the
:48:53. > :48:56.last thing he wants is to give him rhythm. We will see a whole host of
:48:57. > :49:00.different shots, serve and volley behind a first serve, he might come
:49:01. > :49:05.in behind the second serve, he will play drop shots. The question for me
:49:06. > :49:10.is whether he can do it for three out of five sets. I think he can
:49:11. > :49:15.cause trouble but it is whether he will have the consistency to
:49:16. > :49:19.threaten Murray. This was two years ago when he put out Raffaele Riva
:49:20. > :49:28.dial on this court. He is proven on this surface. -- when he put out
:49:29. > :49:33.Rafa Nadal on this court. If Murray is not 100% or struggling with the
:49:34. > :49:37.hip or the body is not right, normally the mind follows quickly.
:49:38. > :49:41.We have seen that with the defaults and retirements. You can talk
:49:42. > :49:45.yourself out of it pretty quickly. Andy, I know this is hard to
:49:46. > :49:49.believe, has been known to get a little negative out there. This guy
:49:50. > :49:56.gets under your skin pretty quickly. Not only because of the stunts he
:49:57. > :50:00.pulls but because he backs it up and can actually play and is very
:50:01. > :50:08.dangerous, by Ford -- by far the most dangerous on the surface. Andy
:50:09. > :50:12.loves to absorb pace? When you think about Murray's great matchups, he
:50:13. > :50:17.likes a target. When people serve and volley he is good at forcing
:50:18. > :50:21.them to volley up, picking off the passing shots. But Australia,
:50:22. > :50:31.playing again there is, he has great record against lefties. -- playing
:50:32. > :50:35.against Zverev. And perhaps the shingles, not quite the fitness of
:50:36. > :50:39.Murray we would expect. But we are thinking about how Brown can have an
:50:40. > :50:45.impact, that is one area, being aggressive. He has a big serve but
:50:46. > :50:50.Murray has a great return. One of the greatest returns in the history
:50:51. > :50:53.of our sport. He likes a target. It is also true that this court is
:50:54. > :51:00.playing slower than Australia so it should give him more time to get it
:51:01. > :51:04.at his feet, but be ready to sprint forward. Brown has excellent hands
:51:05. > :51:08.and will hit a lot of drop volleys and drop shots, he will have to be
:51:09. > :51:14.ready to jump on that and discourage Brown from doing that. Are you ready
:51:15. > :51:20.to analyse the walk and see if there is a limp? He always limps, it is
:51:21. > :51:23.just how pronounced. He looked about 50 in the beginning of the
:51:24. > :51:28.first-round match, by the end of it he looked his age. We will see. He
:51:29. > :51:34.has a tendency to throw his opponents off because you do not
:51:35. > :51:38.know what he will do. When you have an injury you do not want it cold?
:51:39. > :51:42.He will not take long to warm up here. In the context of this
:51:43. > :51:45.tournament, if Murray has been carrying a niggle, it is important
:51:46. > :51:50.to get studio the early rounds quickly without wasting time been
:51:51. > :51:54.much energy. From the other end of the court, Brown will say I want to
:51:55. > :51:59.keep him here for as long as possible, make him do as much
:52:00. > :52:04.running as possible. Anything he can do to unsettle Murray's rhythm. The
:52:05. > :52:09.kitchen sink will be thrown out in the next two hours, we promise you,
:52:10. > :52:14.the fans and the people watching on TV. If he gets off to a great start
:52:15. > :52:18.and does not let Dustin into the match, when he gets into the match
:52:19. > :52:22.he gets really dangerous. Pretty much every player, you would suspect
:52:23. > :52:26.that is the case. But Dustin Brown will enjoyably minute. I do not
:52:27. > :52:32.think that will change his approach a lot, but against anyone you want
:52:33. > :52:35.to intimidate and get off early. When he plays so well and you see
:52:36. > :52:40.him here, it is amazing he does not take it around the tour, it is
:52:41. > :52:45.really on the grass. For somebody like Dustin Brown, this is the
:52:46. > :52:55.easiest place to play. It is the big stage, he likes the atmosphere, the
:52:56. > :52:58.adrenaline is flowing. It is harder playing in front of eight people and
:52:59. > :53:00.their dog around the tour, especially playing Challenger level.
:53:01. > :53:04.This is what he likes, this is why he puts in the hard work and wants
:53:05. > :53:08.to show everybody. They have called time, Mac and Tim are on their way
:53:09. > :53:19.to the commentary box to join Mark Petchey. MARK PETCHEY: There is the
:53:20. > :53:25.world number one, about to embark on his second adventure at this year's
:53:26. > :53:32.2017 Championships against one of the most entertaining players out on
:53:33. > :53:37.the men's tour. I saw one headline that called it organised chaos that
:53:38. > :53:43.will be coming from the German. He is a whirlwind of fun to watch. Lots
:53:44. > :53:48.of inventive shots. I don't go how much is strategic and how much is
:53:49. > :53:51.impulsive. Could have been British back in 2010, his paternal
:53:52. > :53:55.grandparents are British. He contemplated becoming British for a
:53:56. > :53:59.while, he was Jamaican at the time, the funding dried up and then he
:54:00. > :54:08.elected to play for his country of birth which, of course, is Germany.
:54:09. > :54:28.Never any doubting Murray's routes, firmly in Scotland. The British and
:54:29. > :54:32.world number one. -- Murray's roots. What if anything can Dustin Brown
:54:33. > :55:07.bring to the occasion to trouble the world number one? UMPIRE: Play.
:55:08. > :55:16.JOHN MCENROE: I am not sure he meant that dropped shot return, I do not
:55:17. > :55:22.know that was part of the planned that he will bring unpredictability,
:55:23. > :55:36.guaranteed. -- part of the plan, but he will bring unpredictability.
:55:37. > :55:45.Return and volley, we do not talk about that too often but we will see
:55:46. > :55:48.some advice from Dustin Brown? TIM HENMAN: He used to be chipper and
:55:49. > :56:02.charge but this is what it and charge. -- he used to be wh and
:56:03. > :56:31.charge but this is whack it in charge.
:56:32. > :56:44.Had the speed gun on the serve. Pretty quick as well. 121 mph.
:56:45. > :56:47.UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call on the right-hand side. The
:56:48. > :57:10.ball was called out. Well in. Hypothetically, if that was
:57:11. > :57:12.a call against you would you be able to accept that? Good seeing you
:57:13. > :57:45.again! And strong serving from Murray.
:57:46. > :57:51.Those last couple in particular, one to two followed by 120 mph. He will
:57:52. > :57:57.be happy. You know he is able to get into the low 130s, so to take some
:57:58. > :58:02.fans get into that range and get up to around 70%, that would be a
:58:03. > :58:10.strong move against Brown, who is itching to move forward. At any
:58:11. > :58:30.opportunity. UMPIRE: Mr Dustin Brown to serve.
:58:31. > :58:40.That is a good serve against somebody that far back. When Murray
:58:41. > :58:52.stands as far behind the baseline as he did there.
:58:53. > :58:59.Ultimately, Tim, as good as Brown's first serve is, Murray returns
:59:00. > :59:04.better over the course of five sets? Better than pretty much anyone. That
:59:05. > :59:08.is 126 mph, pretty close to the corner. And you are still having to
:59:09. > :59:32.dig one of your shoelaces. Variation is one of the keys for
:59:33. > :59:36.Brown, if he is serving and volleying on every ball, Murray will
:59:37. > :59:47.get into the rhythm. If you can mix it up and keep Murray guessing...
:59:48. > :00:04.He is attempting to reach the baseline. Lets not forget to mention
:00:05. > :00:17.the 125 mph second serve. It's a pretty low ball toss, isn't
:00:18. > :01:04.it? A quick action. That's a lot of hair he's got there.
:01:05. > :01:37.I can't believe that's not more distracting.
:01:38. > :01:43.Did they keep records on drop shot attempts? I sure hope so because the
:01:44. > :02:15.record's going down today. As impulsive as the strategy is, it
:02:16. > :02:19.can be effective, though, particularly here at Wimbledon.
:02:20. > :02:24.Suddenly plays a routine return and you're half moving forward, half
:02:25. > :02:57.moving back, not sure what's coming. That's the point. He unnerves you.
:02:58. > :03:05.A good sign early on in terms of Murray's movement around the court.
:03:06. > :03:08.He at least manage to get the defensive lob. Get enough on the
:03:09. > :03:49.past. He used the slice effectively in his
:03:50. > :03:58.opening match. You expect to see him use it a little bit, but not quite
:03:59. > :04:07.as frequently to give Dustin Brown time on the ball. Paisley delivery
:04:08. > :04:18.seals the second hold of serve for Murray. Two up. Your mind generally
:04:19. > :04:22.tries to get it to work like a computer, where things come out and
:04:23. > :04:27.it becomes natural. At the top of the list of the balls to have the
:04:28. > :04:31.highest percentage chance of success. I very much debate whether
:04:32. > :04:38.with Justin Brown the first one that comes out is the sensible one. It's
:04:39. > :04:42.almost as if he first thinks of the lower percentage ones and he has to
:04:43. > :04:48.talk himself out of that. That is why he hasn't has as much success in
:04:49. > :04:52.other areas of the world where there isn't as much attention, the court
:04:53. > :05:00.plays differently. Here it sort of works to his advantage, because
:05:01. > :05:04.players are not used to seeing... It's more effective, like a drop
:05:05. > :05:12.volley, drop shot, where the ball doesn't bounce as high. It's got to
:05:13. > :05:16.be unbelievable to try to coach this guy, I'm sure there's no point. He
:05:17. > :05:23.hasn't got a coach at the moment, so... Play some percentage tennis,
:05:24. > :05:37.are you nuts? That's not going to happen. Highest ranking last year of
:05:38. > :05:42.64 in the world, Dustin. Many of the fans who sat through that wonderful
:05:43. > :05:55.contest between Vekic and Konta make their way back onto Centre Court.
:05:56. > :06:11.Couple of contrasting days on Centre for the fans. The last 48 hours. I
:06:12. > :06:14.guess one of the challenges that face is both players here is the
:06:15. > :06:18.match prior to this, to be hanging around in the locker room warming
:06:19. > :06:32.up, is it going to be finished in two sets. It goes deep into the
:06:33. > :06:36.third. 4-4, 5-5, 6-6. You have to try to time when you are going to
:06:37. > :06:40.eat. You can explode in the beginning and have the most energy,
:06:41. > :06:46.get right into it. It's difficult when you don't know when you're
:06:47. > :06:54.going to play. It's underrated, under appreciated how difficult that
:06:55. > :06:57.can be for players. Fearless ball by Brown there. Also understandably
:06:58. > :07:00.from the crowd point of view, they've been sitting in the sun for
:07:01. > :07:04.three hours, they want to go off and have a little bit of shade, get a
:07:05. > :07:14.drink, when you come out onto court ready for that explosion of
:07:15. > :07:20.noise,... You're referring to the people in the Royal box? That as
:07:21. > :07:26.well. Looks like it's tea-time. Again, you can come out almost scary
:07:27. > :07:27.to say come on Centre Court of Wimbledon, and it's a little bit
:07:28. > :08:05.flat. Photographer's Green, isn't it,
:08:06. > :08:23.Dustin Brown, every time he touches the ball, something going on.
:08:24. > :08:31.You know that has been practised yesterday. Talk about hitting the
:08:32. > :09:14.return splits. Don't bother, hit the return and spring forward.
:09:15. > :09:23.Went just below, that. What makes you think that. Want normal one
:09:24. > :09:37.might throw Murray completely off-balance.
:09:38. > :09:56.That is brilliant. Looked like he might have used that had to freeze
:09:57. > :10:20.Brown at the end. The drop shot... No look. It was a great point.
:10:21. > :10:28.The ball caught the line. I'll be amazed if that was out. There you
:10:29. > :11:37.go... Couldn't read the needle this time,
:11:38. > :11:39.as he did earlier in the game. Brown hangs on. Quality volley, to be
:11:40. > :11:57.fair. Saving break point. Clearly already awkward for Murray.
:11:58. > :12:04.How many do what this guy does? None. I mean, it's not that Murray's
:12:05. > :12:27.playing badly, he's hitting the ball pretty well.
:12:28. > :12:42.To casual. That's not possible, is it? To knock it into "Was too easy,
:12:43. > :12:44.it had to be the no look. -- to knock it into open court was too
:12:45. > :13:13.easy. That was awesome! Make that first
:13:14. > :14:00.point look even worse now. 95 mph backhand winner. Incredible timing.
:14:01. > :14:07.It's a good approach shot from Dustin Brown. Terrific pass.
:14:08. > :14:18.Manufactured out of nothing from Murray. He'll take away the angle
:14:19. > :14:22.for Murray. Murray doing an excellent job. Brown looks very
:14:23. > :14:50.wound up out there. He's so stressed in the Centre Court.
:14:51. > :14:56.Definitely cannot relax against Brown. He is disconcerting to play
:14:57. > :15:01.against because you feel he doesn't really have a care in the world, is
:15:02. > :15:02.just going to go for every shot. Probably not always sure where it's
:15:03. > :15:23.going to go himself. Because the variations in terms of
:15:24. > :15:27.spin, drop shot and heated more balls inside the service line than
:15:28. > :15:37.he's hit anywhere else in the match. You never see that. The variation on
:15:38. > :15:47.return. 30 mph faster, the previous one, than his average. Murray
:15:48. > :15:54.handling it pretty well so far. A lot to enjoy in the opening five
:15:55. > :15:57.games. Personally I love what I'm seeing from Brown because it's not
:15:58. > :16:00.as if he's going to beat him from the baseline, you're talking about
:16:01. > :16:03.one of the greatest defensive players in the history of tennis,
:16:04. > :16:07.one of the great athletes, one of the best return as ever. He has to
:16:08. > :16:12.try to become unpredictable, he wants to be effective, he wants to
:16:13. > :16:17.make sure he doesn't make a lot of easy errors, unforced errors. This
:16:18. > :16:24.type of game plan against the best in the world is exactly right here.
:16:25. > :16:28.We all wonder and we all would wonder if he was able to keep it up,
:16:29. > :16:32.for how long could he keep it up? You would then ask, why can't he do
:16:33. > :16:37.that year round? You should be one of the top 15 players in the world.
:16:38. > :16:44.The quality that you see, he could be more consistent. Leg strength
:16:45. > :16:48.doesn't appear, doesn't have a whole lot of quads, muscles there, holding
:16:49. > :16:53.up on a hard court, I would assume is much more difficult, your body
:16:54. > :17:00.would break down. He's 35. 32, sorry, Dustin. There are so many
:17:01. > :17:06.35-year-olds playing well. That is three birthday presents you have to
:17:07. > :17:11.give him. Apologies. In terms of salt for athletic tennis ability, is
:17:12. > :17:20.certainly up there, a lot higher than his ranking would suggest. He's
:17:21. > :17:28.got four top ten wins, the first in 2014, John Isner at Houston. Two
:17:29. > :17:31.notable wins over Nadal, firstly in to two, then Wimbledon. He beat
:17:32. > :17:37.Marin Cilic at Montpellier earlier in the year. Cilic had a slow start
:17:38. > :17:56.of the year but has picked up pace recently.
:17:57. > :18:01.Why in the world did he hit a drop shot over it? The guy can't help
:18:02. > :18:19.himself. Quick action with plenty of pace,
:18:20. > :18:22.that his yearly average, 180 mph, he's got about 60% of his first
:18:23. > :18:24.serves going into a pretty healthy when you hit out at pace with the
:18:25. > :19:10.action that he has. How good is this? How good is it?
:19:11. > :19:13.After the match we've just witnessed, which was epic and
:19:14. > :19:14.brilliant and breathtaking, it needed something like this to get
:19:15. > :19:39.the crowd back into it. Oh my goodness. He's just eclipsed
:19:40. > :19:41.the other point. A bit short-changed on Centre Court yesterday. They are
:19:42. > :20:04.certainly getting their money 's worth here. How casual's that?
:20:05. > :20:09.I'm having a hard time taking off my face, I'll tell you that, this is
:20:10. > :20:55.unreal. I want him to keep it up. It's a smart serve into the body on
:20:56. > :21:02.the second serve when the opponent is looking to try to attack you in a
:21:03. > :21:05.manner that Brown is. He certainly has big swings and to take big
:21:06. > :21:07.swings you have to get your body out of the way. A bit tight into those
:21:08. > :21:28.hips. Slightly disappointed Brown didn't
:21:29. > :21:32.die for this one because we seen some of those over the years. It's
:21:33. > :21:37.the only thing he hasn't done in the opening seven games. We probably
:21:38. > :21:42.need a between the legs winner from a lob. Give it a little time, it's
:21:43. > :22:09.early. Murray calmly going about his
:22:10. > :22:14.business. Again in the context of this match and the way Murray has
:22:15. > :22:17.started off, the way Brown has begun, I think it's an advantage for
:22:18. > :22:20.Murray to be serving first just to keep his nose in front as the set
:22:21. > :22:32.goes on, little bit of scoreboard pressure. Can Brown keep making
:22:33. > :22:35.those shots at 3-4, 4-5, 5-6. It was audible player players love to
:22:36. > :22:39.watch. Fans love to watch players but players love players like Justin
:22:40. > :22:45.Brown. The time they have been in the locker room, whether coaching
:22:46. > :22:52.with Milos or just worked my way in when Tim Henman helped me get in
:22:53. > :22:55.every now and then, as an ex-champion, if you see Dustin Brown
:22:56. > :22:59.on a court, people are looking, the players are looking to find out if
:23:00. > :23:04.they can get him on the screen, to see what he's up to. And everyone's
:23:05. > :23:10.happy right now because Murray's paddling it well, Brown's playing
:23:11. > :23:16.out of his mind. It's all good now. You think Lednl and Andy's entourage
:23:17. > :23:21.have said the law of averages, you've just got to stick with it,
:23:22. > :23:25.sooner or later the guy's going to blink. Hopefully soon for their
:23:26. > :23:31.stake. Lednl love the law of averages Bing, didn't he, John? ...
:23:32. > :23:37.Lets get back to this match! New balls. -- law of averages thing. It
:23:38. > :24:05.turned out to work pretty well. A lot easier to hit the fun, flash
:24:06. > :24:17.shots when you are ahead in the countdown. 3-4, 0-15. Make it a bit
:24:18. > :24:25.harder. What were you saying? Apologies, Dustin, how on earth
:24:26. > :24:51.could I doubt you? The running, jumping, drive scans volley.
:24:52. > :24:57.Returning the favour with a couple of drop shots of his own. Because he
:24:58. > :25:17.is known to use that shot rather extensively.
:25:18. > :26:25.I don't know if Murray can anticipate the swing in volleys.
:26:26. > :26:37.Well directed, the return of serve on to the backhand side of Brown.
:26:38. > :27:05.And here is the chance Murray has been patiently waiting for.
:27:06. > :27:11.Eventually something had to give, didn't it? Otherwise other players
:27:12. > :27:17.would play the way Dustin Brown does. The double fault,
:27:18. > :27:22.unfortunately, is his undoing. A little deflated. That's a Bammer.
:27:23. > :28:27.Keep this up while longer, we can handle that.
:28:28. > :28:31.Brown is still thinking about that double he tossed at break point.
:28:32. > :29:13.He's gone off the rails. Even though he misses the lob, at
:29:14. > :29:17.least it puts it into brown's mind it can't just sit on top of the net.
:29:18. > :29:57.-- Brown's mind. The opening set goes Murray's way by
:29:58. > :30:00.six games to three. SUE BARKER: What an entertaining first set, it has
:30:01. > :30:05.gone to British number one Andy Murray. We will be back in just a
:30:06. > :30:10.moment, but let's take you to court 16, where a rather controversial
:30:11. > :30:13.match has ended, with Rubens Bemelmans defeating Daniil Medvedev,
:30:14. > :30:18.the man who put out Stan Wawrinka. It went to the fifth and final set
:30:19. > :30:22.that in the fifth set Medvedev was not happy, he had a number of
:30:23. > :30:33.overruled by the umpire. He asked for her to be removed from the court
:30:34. > :30:36.and called for the supervisor at 2-0, the supervisor said no, the
:30:37. > :30:39.Empire State, he lost five games in a row and lost the first set six
:30:40. > :30:42.games to three. That was much point, then as he was picking up his bag,
:30:43. > :30:46.this is what he did. He got the coins out of his wallet and started
:30:47. > :30:51.throwing them to the base of the umpire's chav. We will find out more
:30:52. > :30:56.about that in what promises to be a rather fiery press conference. That
:30:57. > :31:00.story unfolded on court 16. Medvedev is out, Bemelmans goes through. I am
:31:01. > :31:07.sure that is a story that is brewing.
:31:08. > :31:12.Meanwhile on BBC Two on number one Court, Venus Williams is a break of
:31:13. > :31:15.serve at facing a couple of break points on her serve against Wunsch
:31:16. > :31:20.yang of China. They met in the first round of the French Open, the
:31:21. > :31:23.five-time champion playing on Court One, that is on BBC Two.
:31:24. > :31:38.Back we go to Centre Court. MARK PETCHEY: Effort, energy and as
:31:39. > :31:42.authentic as ever. Andy Murray taking the opening set against the
:31:43. > :31:44.flamboyance of Dustin Brown, who has come to make it a spectacle, but
:31:45. > :32:04.will he make it a contest? TIM HENMAN: A very professional
:32:05. > :32:10.staff from Murray, only dropped by points on his serve. -- very
:32:11. > :32:22.professional start from Murray. Only dropped five points on his serve.
:32:23. > :32:33.He has dropped it. JOHN MCENROE: Even for a grandstand, he has got
:32:34. > :32:41.too caught up in the moment. God forbid he plays some percentage
:32:42. > :32:51.tennis! That is percentage tennis, John. Exactly, that is what I am
:32:52. > :32:59.saying. That is a sensible shot. Hit a firm ball. You don't mean the
:33:00. > :33:41.first set, do you?! Well, we know who will take
:33:42. > :33:46.Behrami's Chopper on the seniors tour, when and if he ever stops
:33:47. > :33:53.playing bat. -- job on the seniors tour. It would be Brown. That would
:33:54. > :33:58.be a good matchup, Brown against Bromley. I would pay to watch that.
:33:59. > :34:04.It is almost like he is addicted, he can't stop himself. I don't see him
:34:05. > :34:11.play a lot of the smaller events. I can't imagine it is this extensive.
:34:12. > :34:13.It is close, if you watch some of the highlights... It is not 1
:34:14. > :34:29.million miles off. That statistic that was up earlier,
:34:30. > :34:35.you have seen her Murray has kept beforehand. We have seen is in huge
:34:36. > :34:39.backhands from Brown. After a serve he does a good job of getting his
:34:40. > :34:47.forehand into play and he can really crank up the pressure. Murray is
:34:48. > :34:51.precise and has the ability to see the ball that bit earlier, to direct
:34:52. > :35:58.it in places other players are not quite able to.
:35:59. > :36:05.Murray doing the basics very, very well. You see the winners two
:36:06. > :36:28.unforced errors ratio, 14 winners and one unforced error. Impressive.
:36:29. > :36:33.Dustin Brown has had about 1200 aces in his career, but he has halved
:36:34. > :36:50.that total. There are a few lurking around. He
:36:51. > :36:59.does not seem to move too well outweighed to his forehand. -- out
:37:00. > :37:06.wide. Murray is zeroing in on that and taking advantage.
:37:07. > :37:24.Well played. I felt he had no other option to hit that, and hit that he
:37:25. > :37:37.did. Murray loves to use that left hand
:37:38. > :37:38.and tip the ball low to an opponent. Brown is used to hitting that type
:37:39. > :37:44.of shot. That is really callous. -- that was
:37:45. > :38:49.really callous. -- careless. Terrific serving.
:38:50. > :38:53.He is upset because he had a good look at a passing shot at 15-40,
:38:54. > :39:41.that is still on Murray's mind. Dustin Brown is a fighter. He was
:39:42. > :39:46.7-5 around in his opening match before turning it around, winning
:39:47. > :40:21.the second set on a break and then winning sets three and four.
:40:22. > :40:38.Still very agitated that he did not break the Brown serve.
:40:39. > :40:43.The crowd is on a slight quandary because they want to be entertained,
:40:44. > :40:52.and they have been. They don't want it to go too far. They have got to
:40:53. > :40:54.where they could imagine the type of thing that happened to Nadal a
:40:55. > :41:01.couple of years ago at Wimbledon against this guy. I was looking at
:41:02. > :41:15.some of the stats from the serving and that from Brown, incredible.
:41:16. > :41:21.The lower ranked players, when you get the top ten wins, people wonder
:41:22. > :41:25.why you can't consistently beat them, but you need a little bit of
:41:26. > :41:29.two things happening at once, the better player not playing quite as
:41:30. > :41:35.well and you elevating your going to a higher level than normal. Murray
:41:36. > :41:42.keen to make sure Brown does not get inspired out here.
:41:43. > :41:44.Are probably added to the frustration of the break point
:41:45. > :41:46.opportunities early in the second set. It takes the wind out of
:41:47. > :42:45.Brown's sales. -- sails. Murray, he tries some shots between
:42:46. > :42:48.the legs. We could tell as he took the rackets back that he was going
:42:49. > :42:54.to take a good swing at it. Brown was very alert. In that position it
:42:55. > :43:32.would have been awfully tough for Murray to hit it crosscourt.
:43:33. > :43:40.It is not unnerve a player as good as Murray as much when he is that
:43:41. > :43:42.far back waiting on a second serve. I think he would be better it
:43:43. > :44:28.forward. -- moving it forward. UMPIRE: Murray challenging on the
:44:29. > :44:42.right-hand side, the ball was called in.
:44:43. > :45:14.It makes sense for him to move forward, that ball was long.
:45:15. > :45:31.It is almost dangerous to put in 80% first serves again, speed rides,
:45:32. > :45:35.against a guy like Dustin Brown. That if any player can get their
:45:36. > :45:38.racket on the ball, they can make good things happen. Murray is still
:45:39. > :45:44.having to get after it with his first serve. He has dropped just
:45:45. > :45:53.three points out of 18 when he has made his first serve.
:45:54. > :46:01.You will not make too many second serves that 129 mph. I think Raonic
:46:02. > :46:03.had a couple of matches where he averaged 118 and 119 mph on his
:46:04. > :46:34.second serve, his average. Murray gave him a bit of extra time
:46:35. > :46:42.to assess things, to move forward, to take it earlier. You can see her
:46:43. > :46:46.Murray uses his racket when he chases down the short balls, just
:46:47. > :46:59.banging it down on the ground, trying to use it as traction.
:47:00. > :47:09.Thumbs up from Dustin Brown. This is the left hand again, to get outside
:47:10. > :47:34.the ball, bend it back down the line.
:47:35. > :47:45.He is one of the best Lobberts is, that is for sure. -- he is one of
:47:46. > :47:48.the best lobbers ever. You thought he was going to hit a drop shot,
:47:49. > :48:07.Murray moved forward, unbelievable. Murray aware of the aggressive whack
:48:08. > :49:14.-- second serve to his forehand. And as good as those two points were
:49:15. > :49:18.from Brown, they only gotten back to deuce. Another great return from
:49:19. > :49:39.Murray sets up another break point opportunity.
:49:40. > :49:46.He gets his breakthrough a game after he would have liked to, but he
:49:47. > :49:50.will not be complaining. Do sometimes feel on the volleys with
:49:51. > :49:54.Brown, the harder it is, the more likely he is to make it. That
:49:55. > :50:00.forehand volley, fairly routine into the open court. SUE BARKER: A break
:50:01. > :50:05.of serve for Andy Murray. We will be back with this match in a moment but
:50:06. > :50:17.a story is brewing on Court Number One. Venus Williams was a break of
:50:18. > :50:24.serve in the first set but has lost it to Qiang Wang of China. The
:50:25. > :50:29.five-time champion, Venus Williams, is in trouble. That match is
:50:30. > :50:34.currently on BBC Two. One seed is safely through in the men's, Marin
:50:35. > :50:38.Cilic, who was runner-up at Queen's Club recently. He defeated Florian
:50:39. > :50:46.Mayer. He came back to win in straight sets. Marin Cilic, always a
:50:47. > :50:52.danger on any surface with that big serve and his big game, through to
:50:53. > :51:01.the next round. That is what has been happening elsewhere. Back
:51:02. > :51:05.again. MARK PETCHEY: We don't need any rays of sunshine, we have plenty
:51:06. > :51:10.of them, but Dustin Brown certainly thrilled us. We are six minutes shy
:51:11. > :51:15.of an hour, but things progressing nicely if you are Andy Murray or a
:51:16. > :51:25.Murray fan. There has been much to enjoy and savour, but the scoreboard
:51:26. > :51:29.is very much in his favour. JOHN MCENROE: People often ask players
:51:30. > :51:34.like Tim and myself why you don't see more serving and bullying. That
:51:35. > :51:38.was a pretty good answer as to why, it is discouraging for the players
:51:39. > :51:44.nowadays to serve and volley when a guy hits consistently difficult
:51:45. > :51:50.returns the way Murray did that previous game to break. Those were
:51:51. > :52:04.not bad serves he was hitting, by any means.
:52:05. > :52:10.Murray has really played well against Brown so far. He just held
:52:11. > :52:15.his backhand for so long but eventually you had to commit one way
:52:16. > :52:20.or the other, he has the vision to see whether spaces. -- where the
:52:21. > :53:01.space is. Talking about serve under volley, if
:53:02. > :53:07.we recreate the conditions that Wimbledon had in the mid-90s with
:53:08. > :53:10.the courts and everything else and puts a great serve and volley
:53:11. > :53:15.against a great return, wouldn't still be the same, John? It
:53:16. > :53:19.definitely would be different if the courts were the way they used to be.
:53:20. > :53:29.A lot bad bounces. Tougher to return.
:53:30. > :53:42.No one would advocate going back to that kind of court. Peter Fleming
:53:43. > :53:45.and I got out one day before Wimbledon started, we had a can of
:53:46. > :53:50.balls from last year and a can of balls from this year and it appeared
:53:51. > :53:59.that the balls were heavier this year. Do you know anything about
:54:00. > :54:02.that, Tim? TIM HENMAN: One thing is for sure, they are not meant to be
:54:03. > :54:07.heavier, but sometimes it amazes me to watch the tennis like this, you
:54:08. > :54:17.see grass court tennis when it is so slow, the conditions, the ball is
:54:18. > :54:18.heavy. We see somebody serving in the mid 120s coming behind it and
:54:19. > :54:42.getting little reward. How dare there be a bad balance! It
:54:43. > :55:04.is amazing how consistent it has become.
:55:05. > :55:11.Two others who will be pretty happy with how this match is going is Rafa
:55:12. > :55:20.Nadal and Donald Young after Jo Konta's epic three-hour battle. Lots
:55:21. > :55:26.of hanging around for those guys, the next match on Centre Court. Rafa
:55:27. > :55:33.comes about six hours early to all his matches, he is totally
:55:34. > :55:36.comfortable. That is a lot of games of Ludo today! It will not faze him.
:55:37. > :56:09.If Donald can step up... Reminds me of when I used to play
:56:10. > :56:17.Johan Cruyff. He played extremely quickly and he came up with lots of
:56:18. > :56:22.flashy shots, he was a tremendous shot maker, you just went along with
:56:23. > :56:25.it because you've figured he could not keep it up -- when I used to
:56:26. > :57:01.play against Johann Kriek. In his defence, Johan, he was the
:57:02. > :57:18.top ten player. Murray is spreading the needle again. -- is spreading.
:57:19. > :57:29.Too good. Did someone say he had a hip problem?! I don't know if I buy
:57:30. > :57:33.that he is less than 100%. Certainly looks a lot worse between points
:57:34. > :57:35.than when he's running down these types of shots. And delivering that
:57:36. > :58:12.delicate angle. That is Dustin Brown for you! Got to
:58:13. > :58:20.take the rough with the smooth. Dare I say Murray is having fun, with the
:58:21. > :58:29.cat and mouse style, manipulating things to his advantage? He should
:58:30. > :58:40.not have won the point from here, that is for sure. Pretty good hands,
:58:41. > :58:43.to be fair. Very casual from Brown. Down 2-4, break point, probably not
:58:44. > :58:57.the ideal time to mess around and go down double break. This man will not
:58:58. > :59:01.be complaining. Look at that, split stepping, ready to go in any
:59:02. > :59:07.direction. A nice lesson for any youngsters watching. And for the
:59:08. > :59:16.France on the Hill, what a day for them. -- the fans on the hill.
:59:17. > :59:20.Drinking a lot of water! I'm not sure they have been, but they have
:59:21. > :59:32.been drinking. A combination, at least. What is the ratio, 1:4? Four
:59:33. > :59:38.of what? I will tell you of our. As you said,
:59:39. > :59:43.John, manipulating the ball around the court. He has obviously been a
:59:44. > :00:04.fine exponent of that over the years. -- I will tell you off-air!
:00:05. > :00:19.Sometimes it you what these guys, these masters, like Roger... As well
:00:20. > :00:23.as he's playing, let's see if Young can make it against Nadal. Which
:00:24. > :01:11.apparently won't be too long from now.
:01:12. > :01:21.Three set points. Just one needed, just one more set needed for Murray
:01:22. > :01:36.to move to the third round here at Wimbledon.
:01:37. > :01:43.A lovely set of tennis that looks as though it'll certainly shorten his
:01:44. > :01:49.day. It'll be interesting to see what Justin Brown brings to this
:01:50. > :01:54.party in the third set. More of the same. This is the first time in a
:01:55. > :02:00.while you really kind of felt, watching Murray, hey, this is the
:02:01. > :02:05.number one seed. I get it. He's had some tough times, for him, compared
:02:06. > :02:09.to the previous year when he finished the year number one in the
:02:10. > :02:14.world, which was a truly magnificent effort considering the guys you've
:02:15. > :02:19.got to get past. The let down was also, in my mind, inevitable. The
:02:20. > :02:23.question was, how long would it affect him? Complicated that with
:02:24. > :02:28.some injuries and illness. He was a tie break away from being in the
:02:29. > :02:32.finals of the French. He sets the momentum shifting back in his
:02:33. > :02:39.direction. Surprisingly, Queen first round. Right now you look at him and
:02:40. > :02:47.he's just dominating this guy. He's pretty dangerous and actually he's
:02:48. > :02:57.not played that badly. The Australian Open, as you see the
:02:58. > :03:02.stats... Not going to work too well there. With a guy like Murray, that
:03:03. > :03:10.many looks at the second serve... Maybe he'd be better off taking
:03:11. > :03:17.something off him. Lifting that up to 60, even test 70%. It almost
:03:18. > :03:19.seems when you watch him play, as he's about to hit, he changes his
:03:20. > :04:17.mind. Little bit early, Dustin. He
:04:18. > :04:25.gambled. He guessed, is what he did. Hope it would go where he was
:04:26. > :04:33.headed. Not knowing for his split step in the same way Murray is. --
:04:34. > :04:38.he's not known for his split step. Taking ten seconds between point in
:04:39. > :04:52.this game, Dustin Brown. He's in a hurry.
:04:53. > :05:04.Oh yes, he's made it! Murray can't believe it!
:05:05. > :05:08.What a great get it was from the world number one. The outstretched
:05:09. > :05:33.style of Justin Brown enough. Average of 12 seconds between
:05:34. > :05:39.points. Here at the slams we have 20 seconds between points. At the ATP
:05:40. > :05:43.tournaments 25. What is you guys are feeling, should it be 20 seconds,
:05:44. > :05:47.should it be rigidly enforced? Should it be different for different
:05:48. > :05:52.surfaces? It doesn't make sense to play best-of-3 sets on the tour and
:05:53. > :05:57.you get 25 seconds and in the Grand Slams you play best-of-5 set and
:05:58. > :06:07.only get 20. Definitely needs to be some consistency. They talk about a
:06:08. > :06:09.soft 20 seconds in slams, there is a bit of leeway. It definitely needs
:06:10. > :06:16.to be cleared up. For me, 25 seconds, that is the number. Was it
:06:17. > :06:20.dirty in your day, John? 30. It was often abused. The only way you can
:06:21. > :06:24.enforce it is have the shot clock on the court. You can't ask the umpire
:06:25. > :06:34.to do it, it's got to be done that way or not at all. You think you
:06:35. > :06:38.should play your opponents, the pace of the server? Which often is not
:06:39. > :06:42.the case. If someone is ready to serve and you are not ready, you
:06:43. > :06:47.should be penalised. Is it unreasonable to expect people to
:06:48. > :06:48.play 20 seconds? I do. The physicality of the matches we see
:06:49. > :07:09.these days, the rallies... APPLAUSE
:07:10. > :07:17.He's been great throughout this match. Wait till you see Nadal play,
:07:18. > :07:18.see how many times in the entire match he plays in less than 20
:07:19. > :07:34.seconds. Murray found himself caught up in
:07:35. > :07:43.the moment a little bit of air himself. Pretty great job there,
:07:44. > :07:44.just taking a stab at it. Probably thought he was going to win the
:07:45. > :08:27.point from that position. Murray has been rock solid on serve.
:08:28. > :08:33.Only the eighth point in the whole match Brown has won on Murray's
:08:34. > :08:37.first or second serve. When you're holding serve that comfortably, it
:08:38. > :09:01.gives you a great platform to build a return.
:09:02. > :09:16.The less time this guy has to think about shot selection, the better off
:09:17. > :09:23.he is. When he reacts. He's a top 20 player. When he thinks about it,
:09:24. > :09:27.he's about 200. If he changes his mind once or twice he normally OK,
:09:28. > :09:41.it's when he changes it for the third and fourth it gets tricky. I
:09:42. > :09:42.believe Murray was saying he wasn't ready to return. That caught the
:09:43. > :10:38.line. A wayward forehand from Justin Brown
:10:39. > :10:49.opens the door here for Murray. -- Justin Brown. -- Dustin.
:10:50. > :10:56.Not the cleanest return his struck all day. But equally effective. A
:10:57. > :11:05.break in the third for the world number one. That was extremely
:11:06. > :11:12.disappointing to see Brown sort of faded, in essence, not really make a
:11:13. > :11:15.good effort at that moment. The legs just gave out on him, looks like
:11:16. > :11:22.they are weary. He doesn't seem to have the spring I've seen in the
:11:23. > :11:29.times I have watched him play. And Murray really looks sharp, to his
:11:30. > :11:33.credit. He's put up with what Brown has had to offer. There have been
:11:34. > :11:46.some entertaining moments. But for the most part, not impressed.
:11:47. > :11:52.We're coming to the end of our transmission on BBC One, so this
:11:53. > :11:57.match on Centre Court continues right now on BBC Two. If you want to
:11:58. > :12:05.continue watching the tennis, switch over now to BBC Two. We are leaving
:12:06. > :12:06.for the six o'clock news. It is British players making headlines
:12:07. > :12:18.today. No doubt about the match of the day
:12:19. > :12:23.as Johanna Konta delighted Centre Court in a marathon thread against
:12:24. > :12:26.Croatia's Donna Vekic. The sixth seed finally clinched victory 10-8
:12:27. > :12:35.in the deciding set after three hours and ten minutes. There will be
:12:36. > :12:39.two British women in the third round for the first time since 1986 after
:12:40. > :12:52.Heather Watson enjoyed a fantastic win over the 18th seed Anastasia
:12:53. > :12:59.Sevastova. It's been a good day all round for British players so far
:13:00. > :13:02.with Aljaz Bedene defeating his opponent in four set on Court three
:13:03. > :13:11.to reach the third round at Wimbledon for the very first time.
:13:12. > :13:15.Those are the headlines today but the action continues here at
:13:16. > :13:18.Wimbledon and we've still got a lot to look forward to on Centre Court
:13:19. > :13:24.after Andy Murray has finished his match. Rafa Nadal will be on the
:13:25. > :13:27.court, seeded four against Donald Young, the Battle of the two
:13:28. > :13:33.left-handers. He's only reached the third round twice year since he has
:13:34. > :13:38.been runner-up in 2011. Rafael Nadal will be on Centre Court. We'll also
:13:39. > :13:43.keep an eye on Court Number Two where Petra Kvitova, two-time
:13:44. > :13:46.champion, is starting her second-round match. Still a lot to
:13:47. > :13:50.look forward to at Wimbledon on this third day but if you want to enjoy
:13:51. > :13:53.Andy Murray and his match on Centre Court, switch over now to BBC Two.
:13:54. > :14:04.From all of us here, goodbye. You only see really see the true
