:00:54. > :01:06.Time... Fleeting and precious. For some it flies by, for others it

:01:07. > :01:15.stands still. I was always joking around when I was a boy, I'm going

:01:16. > :01:21.to win this! But in this place of splendour in the grass, time has no

:01:22. > :01:31.meaning. Here, there is only one true king. He is ageist, he defies

:01:32. > :01:38.the ravages of time and he's the master of all he surveys. Over 20

:01:39. > :01:48.years he has battled on this field of play. Championship number seven!

:01:49. > :01:58.His name etched seven times in silver. This King seeks another

:01:59. > :02:05.crown, but is his time running out? Or is he immortal? No, he just has

:02:06. > :02:12.impeccable Swiss timing. SUE BARKER: He certainly does, Roger

:02:13. > :02:16.Federer has become the king of the All-England Club over the last two

:02:17. > :02:22.decades and everybody wants to see this great champion. Here he is

:02:23. > :02:25.leaving the practice court today, his adoring fans courtside, and he's

:02:26. > :02:38.been voted the most popular player on the tour, voted for by the fans,

:02:39. > :02:44.414 straight years. When you think Rafa has his legion of fans, no one

:02:45. > :02:49.comes close. When you have a record having played 26 matches, won 24 of

:02:50. > :02:55.them and in the two he lost he had match point in 2017, you would be

:02:56. > :02:59.relaxed. Roger keeping an eye on the other courts as well but making his

:03:00. > :03:04.way back to the clubhouse and we will see him on Centre Court later.

:03:05. > :03:17.You can watch our comprehensive coverage on BBC television and the

:03:18. > :03:23.red button. There are six matches. Another lovely day, isn't it? So, we

:03:24. > :03:30.will see the great man Roger Federer later this afternoon, his third

:03:31. > :03:34.match on Centre Court, but we have had four British players going

:03:35. > :03:37.through to the third round and could have another because Kyle Edmund is

:03:38. > :03:40.on Centre Court and we will be going there shortly but first let's take a

:03:41. > :03:46.look at who we will be following today. Of course it will be this

:03:47. > :03:54.man, yes back on Centre Court after his cameo appearance in the first

:03:55. > :03:59.round, the seven time champion faces Dusan Lajovic. Novak Djokovic also

:04:00. > :04:10.had an easy ride in his first match, he's playing Adam Pavlasek. For Kyle

:04:11. > :04:23.Edmund, it is tricky Frenchman Gael Monfils who await the British number

:04:24. > :04:31.two. Kerber, finding her feet, she plays Flipkens.

:04:32. > :04:44.So, let's take a look. There confirmation, it is Monfils against

:04:45. > :04:56.Edmund on Centre Court today. Dominic Thiem, a tough one for the

:04:57. > :05:04.eighth seed against Gilles Simon. On Court Number Two micro, Radwanska in

:05:05. > :05:11.action. Martin Del Potro, former US champion. All of those matches, we

:05:12. > :05:14.will be following. So, I say lovely weather, I came here expecting to

:05:15. > :05:19.see the odd thunderstorm, we have had nothing but blue skies and hot

:05:20. > :05:24.sunshine. Let's hope it will last, let's find out with Carol. It should

:05:25. > :05:29.actually, the showers for the afternoon have diminished. We expect

:05:30. > :05:33.the temperature to rise to about 30 Celsius as we go through the

:05:34. > :05:37.afternoon. Into the evening there is only a 10% risk of a thunderstorm

:05:38. > :05:42.and that will be late evening. The temperature coming down a little

:05:43. > :05:46.bit, still hot and humid and sticky. Tomorrow there will be a lot of dry

:05:47. > :05:51.and bright weather to start with, and as we head into the latter part

:05:52. > :06:01.of the afternoon in early evening, again less than 5% risk of a shower

:06:02. > :06:04.so it is all looking pretty good at the moment. It is good news all the

:06:05. > :06:07.way from you, Carol. Before we head to Centre Court, and we will update

:06:08. > :06:12.you with some results later, just a drop in on the number one court to

:06:13. > :06:18.show you have Novak Djokovic is going. Pretty well, and that is the

:06:19. > :06:23.man he is playing, Adam Pavlasek. That will be over on BBC Two in just

:06:24. > :06:28.a moment, but here we are heading to Centre Court for Kyle Edmund against

:06:29. > :06:34.Gael Monfils, this very talented Frenchman. There's nothing between

:06:35. > :06:44.the moment. Five games all. So let's join our Tim Henman, Boris Becker

:06:45. > :07:02.and Andrew Cotter. -- our commentators.

:07:03. > :07:18.In conditions like these, the first serve is even more important. You

:07:19. > :07:25.just want to get your nose in front. There is something at his left

:07:26. > :07:30.ankle, Monfils. He has been lacing his trainer a lot but he's pulling

:07:31. > :07:36.at it again. Everyone has got his habits, that's his, I've seen it a

:07:37. > :07:45.hundred times. He holds and he keeps his nose in front so it will be

:07:46. > :07:52.Edmund again to serve to stay in it. So who is in the house today? We

:07:53. > :08:04.have seen Rod Laver, has four Wimbledon titles, 11 Grand Slam

:08:05. > :08:19.titles in total. At that time it was, to -- amateur era. There's a

:08:20. > :08:31.lot of famous parents. We have got the Federers, the Middletons...

:08:32. > :08:35.Tough school. And a good match for them all to watch at the moment. A

:08:36. > :08:40.couple of people were wondering if he might be overwhelmed, Kyle

:08:41. > :08:48.Edmonds has the ice in the towel around his neck and his playing well

:08:49. > :09:04.so far. Yes, I think he will find his comfort zone. He is much more at

:09:05. > :09:11.ease. UMPIRE: Time. There is the ice, used as it should be in the ice

:09:12. > :09:17.bucket. Chilling some water at the moment. Trying to cool down, it is

:09:18. > :09:22.hot out there, the forecast will run to 30 degrees today. They do play in

:09:23. > :09:27.hotter conditions around the world, you look at Melbourne or wherever

:09:28. > :09:35.but it is still hard today. They say on the court it is always turn or 15

:09:36. > :09:39.degrees hotter. This is not one of the days when the sun reflects from

:09:40. > :09:58.the ground, but it is still too hot to be comfortable.

:09:59. > :10:06.Again, this forehand really is one of the best out there. Good tactic

:10:07. > :10:31.to go behind Monfils earlier on, then into the open court.

:10:32. > :10:40.Monfils unable in this game, against Edmund serving to stay in it, not

:10:41. > :10:46.been able to exert any real pressure so far. But Kyle is really holding

:10:47. > :10:51.his ground. When he is serving its into the centre of the court and

:10:52. > :11:20.he's pushing his opponent way beyond the baseline.

:11:21. > :11:28.It's the other way round, Monfils was able to dictate, pushing. Tennis

:11:29. > :12:05.is a lot like boxing, who is pushing who into the corner first.

:12:06. > :12:16.Did a lot of good defensive work of there bought the final mistake and

:12:17. > :12:24.Monfils just two points away. Edmund needs to get back to basics now,

:12:25. > :12:52.first serve, first forehand into the point.

:12:53. > :13:00.That was aggressive play from Edmund, and Monfils all the way back

:13:01. > :13:25.behind the baseline started from a very deep second serve.

:13:26. > :13:42.It's long, it is a tie-break, and good work again by Edmund.

:13:43. > :13:55.It seems like the right outcome is set to be decided by a tie-break,

:13:56. > :14:00.both had a couple of opportunities on service, a few break points. Now

:14:01. > :14:18.it falls down to who will take their chance in the tie-break.

:14:19. > :14:32.Overhit that one. Tim, you have mentioned a fine line between being

:14:33. > :14:40.aggressive and being too passive. I think Kyle is treading the waters.

:14:41. > :15:16.That is the Swedish coach of Gael Monfils.

:15:17. > :15:25.Just the final touch eludes him. Again did so much well, but Monfils

:15:26. > :15:34.with the mini-break in this tie-break. Kyle did the right thing,

:15:35. > :15:37.he played the good approach shot and came forward looking to be

:15:38. > :15:42.aggressive but a little too long a swing with the volley. Perhaps try

:15:43. > :15:55.to do too much given the athletic ability of Monfils.

:15:56. > :16:14.Louis van Gaal watching there. Is he employed at the moment? Manager. I

:16:15. > :16:20.think he's retired. That's what I hear from my Dutch friends. Monfils

:16:21. > :16:34.with the stranglehold on this tie-break. Kyle thought he was able

:16:35. > :16:51.to change after four points. Must be the heat.

:16:52. > :17:00.That will do nicely for Edmund as he tries to work his way back in. Some

:17:01. > :17:11.people call that a no-look volley. I know that

:17:12. > :17:37.from basketball but not from tennis. The mistake has come from Edmund

:17:38. > :17:59.again. You can see his church plastered to

:18:00. > :18:06.him in sweat. -- his shirt. It's not impossible but it's a long way back

:18:07. > :18:12.from 1-5. It always starts with the next point. Tape applied for

:18:13. > :18:18.Monfils. Done so much good work through the main body of this set,

:18:19. > :18:32.for Kyle Edmund there's the three break points that came and went.

:18:33. > :18:47.Monfils does his thing again, lace obsessed.

:18:48. > :18:51.And the mishits will bring five set points for the number 15 seed, Gael

:18:52. > :19:20.Monfils. Went for it, and its wide, and Gael

:19:21. > :19:25.Monfils with the dominant performance in the tie-break takes

:19:26. > :19:28.the first set. Edmund wilting at the end and he will have to come back

:19:29. > :19:35.from one set down. SUE BARKER: Nothing between them

:19:36. > :19:40.during the set but one-way traffic, and Gael Monfils goes one set up. We

:19:41. > :19:43.will take this opportunity to bring you a few of the results from

:19:44. > :19:50.earlier today because play got under way at 11:30am on the outside

:19:51. > :19:55.courts. Grigor Dimitrov wasn't on court for that long. Just take a

:19:56. > :20:00.look at this point, and marvel at his athleticism. What a way to

:20:01. > :20:09.finish the match! One of the most talented players ever to play the

:20:10. > :20:16.game, no wonder he was dubbed the baby Fed when he was coming up. And

:20:17. > :20:20.another popular player, Marcus Baghdatis. Grigor Dimitrov on form

:20:21. > :20:46.and the crowd loving that much out on Court two. And Kuznetsova has

:20:47. > :20:50.come through against Makarova, and these two are good friends of the

:20:51. > :21:02.court but it is Kuznetsova through to the next round. Vandeweghe, a

:21:03. > :21:07.good grass court player, has come through in straight sets against

:21:08. > :21:12.Maria and her coach Pat Cash has been telling us how much she has

:21:13. > :21:24.been improving on the grass. She's a real threat. There he is, applauding

:21:25. > :21:32.and happy. So Coco Vandeweghe is also through. Disappointment today

:21:33. > :21:39.for Steve Darcis of Belgium, he tweaked his back and he's eighth man

:21:40. > :21:42.to withdraw from this championship. He did win his first match but he

:21:43. > :21:48.was really struggling and could hardly serve. He made his name here

:21:49. > :21:55.when he put out Rafael Nadal a few years ago, but he has been forced to

:21:56. > :22:01.withdraw so David Ferrer goes through. Over on Court number three,

:22:02. > :22:09.Martindale portrayal of against Gulbis. Both of these players have

:22:10. > :22:13.had injury problems over the years, it's great to see them on court.

:22:14. > :22:19.Martindale portrayal has lost the first set and has a real battle on

:22:20. > :22:25.his hands. That's what's happening elsewhere. Back we go to Centre

:22:26. > :22:29.Court. COMMENTATOR: Right on cue, Kyle

:22:30. > :22:33.Edmund is with us, taking his break at the end of the first set. One

:22:34. > :22:37.thing that won't be questioned as his fitness. He does route all

:22:38. > :22:43.training blocks in Miami over the winter with Andy Murray and he works

:22:44. > :22:48.as hard on his fitness as every other part of the game. It will be

:22:49. > :22:53.not quite a body blow but certainly a dig to the ribs losing the first

:22:54. > :22:59.set after having had the three break points at 4-4. He has got to regroup

:23:00. > :23:07.right now. This will be a test of his character and personality. Late

:23:08. > :23:12.great tennis in the first set -- played great tennis. He has got to

:23:13. > :23:16.make sure he digs his heels in and regroups. He's got the opportunity

:23:17. > :23:22.to serve first in the second set so he can get his nose in front and put

:23:23. > :23:40.some pressure on Monfils and make sure his levels don't drop.

:23:41. > :23:48.He's looking to get a quick start of the second set, he will have given

:23:49. > :23:55.himself a little chat when he was away. The first game after losing

:23:56. > :23:59.the first set is always very important. Emotionally he will be

:24:00. > :24:54.fragile, has to really hold it together.

:24:55. > :25:06.A great game for Kyle Edmund to start the second set, holding to

:25:07. > :25:12.love. In the first set he was moving around the court pretty well and has

:25:13. > :25:19.worked on his forehand. Certainly good play to go back behind a guy

:25:20. > :25:24.who moves as well as Monfils. Go strong to the forehand, open up the

:25:25. > :25:31.backhand, a tactic that has always worked well for Kyle. He's got to

:25:32. > :25:37.look to continue to do that with this. 51% going to the forehand. To

:25:38. > :25:43.then open up the slightly weaker side on the backhand of Monfils. And

:25:44. > :25:49.that is the strategy employed against Edmund, because he leaves

:25:50. > :25:53.the forehand side always opened, so you can see the Monfils back on the

:25:54. > :26:01.line and crosscourt, that's exactly how players want to play against

:26:02. > :26:10.Kyle. Monfils taking every moment available, trying to cool down.

:26:11. > :26:12.Takes a bit long, I find, from the changeover. There is something

:26:13. > :26:22.bothering him. Beautifully done. Monfils exposed at

:26:23. > :26:54.the net. Edmund in two minds, not doing quite

:26:55. > :27:01.enough. He is shortening the points now. I wonder if the last couple of

:27:02. > :27:10.long baseline rally has taken its toll. Monfils living at the net in

:27:11. > :27:15.this game and it's costing him. There is something different now. Is

:27:16. > :27:35.that a full road -- furrowed brow. Monfils does do

:27:36. > :27:44.that but if you are Kyle Edmund you have to sense your opponent is not

:27:45. > :27:48.entirely comfortable. And that's a very important point because this is

:27:49. > :27:55.really just about one man against the other, you always have to watch

:27:56. > :28:05.each other, watch for weakness. Monfils happy to see how that game

:28:06. > :28:10.though. -- see out that game. We will watch him closely. A reminder

:28:11. > :28:14.again that Monfils has reached the third round a few times before at

:28:15. > :28:20.Wimbledon but he's looking to improve a record here. He has been

:28:21. > :28:27.to the semifinal of the US Open, the semifinal of his home city Paris as

:28:28. > :28:57.well. Wimbledon has not been a happy hunting ground.

:28:58. > :29:17.Still good enough for that though, Monfils. The approach was a bit

:29:18. > :30:04.short. The door open. Beautifully struck back and down the line.

:30:05. > :30:23.Monfils flapping his arms around as Edmund finds the corner. A key

:30:24. > :31:06.moment in the match, if Keil can stick with it now.

:31:07. > :31:23.Break points seen off by that clubbing for and Edmund. -- that

:31:24. > :31:40.clubbing forehand of Edmund. That is his box. Leon Smith on the left.

:31:41. > :31:50.Again, Edmund faltering as he came in.

:31:51. > :32:01.His position is way too high. It's not his comfort zone at all.

:32:02. > :32:27.Monfils frustrated, because he had an opportunity there. Thought the

:32:28. > :32:36.point might have been over. You can feel the tension in Centre Court at

:32:37. > :32:40.the moment. Down a set, early part of the second set, really doesn't

:32:41. > :32:56.want to pull a break behind. -- doesn't want to fall.

:32:57. > :33:09.Lovely change-up from Monfils. Just the thing with the top players, they

:33:10. > :33:14.not only have game eight, but they have game be, depending on the

:33:15. > :33:37.situation of the opponent. That was a lovely touch.

:33:38. > :33:52.Can't take it. A shout of frustration from Gael Monfils.

:33:53. > :33:59.There should be. There was a real opportunity to go up a break. He

:34:00. > :34:02.could have won the first set already. -- having won the first

:34:03. > :34:20.set. I'm done by a clip of the net, and

:34:21. > :34:26.acknowledged by Gael Monfils. A fourth break point. Nobody could

:34:27. > :35:24.react to this. Gael Monfils has the break at the

:35:25. > :35:35.start of this second set. Set up, break up, a long road back now for

:35:36. > :35:36.Kyle Edmund. Sign up to the crucial moments, he couldn't find a first

:35:37. > :36:00.serve, Kyle Edmund. Gael Monfils in the box seat at the

:36:01. > :36:02.moment. He has been to the semifinals a couple of times at

:36:03. > :36:11.Grand Slams, but not here. Looking to equal his best. You'll get a bit

:36:12. > :36:15.of confidence, having lost in the final to Novak Djokovic. He has done

:36:16. > :36:21.it all pretty well so far in this match. But the level of Edmund just

:36:22. > :36:26.dipping in that last service game. Certainly did. We talk about

:36:27. > :36:33.different game styles and plans, and you wonder what Kyle's plan B can

:36:34. > :36:38.be. It's not as if he is going to start serving and volleying. Could

:36:39. > :36:45.he change the pace? Could he bring Monfils in? He should have observed

:36:46. > :36:47.that his opponent is struggling physically, in some shape or form,

:36:48. > :36:52.and he has to stay aggressive. I don't think Kyle as any other

:36:53. > :36:58.possibilities than to play his top game. But there is still a long way

:36:59. > :37:06.to go, three out of five. Not to be downhearted. Keep doing what he does

:37:07. > :37:13.best. Keep plugging with the forehand and staying aggressive.

:37:14. > :38:19.It's a physical as well as a mental battle.

:38:20. > :38:28.A lovely little casual drop from Monfils. Edmund responded pretty

:38:29. > :38:35.well, but Monfils is flying at the moment. He holds to love. Some

:38:36. > :38:40.pretty flamboyant shots from Dustin Brown yesterday. That was pretty

:38:41. > :39:16.useful as well. You could see both players trying

:39:17. > :39:19.different things again. Again, the intensity and power hitting from the

:39:20. > :39:22.baseline isn't there at the moment, because I am sure they are both

:39:23. > :40:17.feeling it. Monfils mixing things up.

:40:18. > :40:27.It looks like Monfils is playing very loose. Trying to waste as

:40:28. > :40:40.little energy as possible. It's all part of the game.

:40:41. > :40:47.You don't see that too much from Edmund. He plays on a pretty even

:40:48. > :40:54.keel. But displays of emotion, frustrated at the unforced errors. A

:40:55. > :41:01.set and a break, it will seem a lot hotter on the court for Edmund than

:41:02. > :41:33.Monfils. A long way back if he drops there.

:41:34. > :41:46.Kyle Edmund holds and maintains contact just in this second set.

:41:47. > :41:51.You can see how much hard work Kyle Edmund is having to put in as well,

:41:52. > :41:59.sapping the strength of both of these men. Outside, a bit of a

:42:00. > :42:10.breeze out there on the hill. Henman Hill. Edmund escarpment? It doesn't

:42:11. > :42:15.have to be alliteration. They are enjoying themselves out there, a

:42:16. > :42:17.picnic or two, watching Edmund competing, but just drifting a

:42:18. > :42:31.little bit away from Monfils at the moment. You mentioned maintaining an

:42:32. > :42:37.even keel, but I think sometimes you have to get the emotions out. You

:42:38. > :42:41.are down a break and a set, playing in front of 60,000 home fans, give

:42:42. > :42:50.them something so they can cheer you up. Use the home crowd, get them

:42:51. > :42:56.into it. Exactly, do something. They want you to win. The home advantage

:42:57. > :43:00.has certainly gone at the moment, because it's quite a quiet

:43:01. > :43:05.atmosphere inside Centre Court. Monfils has taken control. It's

:43:06. > :43:10.interesting, perhaps sometimes you have to do everything you can to use

:43:11. > :43:15.that home advantage. If you are not naturally that kind of person, it

:43:16. > :43:22.can be quite difficult, but just a shout here or there. I've seen him

:43:23. > :43:25.get emotional in the Davis Cup. Yeah. You really need something to

:43:26. > :43:28.spark a change in momentum in this match. All too comfortable for

:43:29. > :43:58.Monfils at the moment. A little fist pump or something. And

:43:59. > :44:02.that is sometimes more important than training on the forehand and

:44:03. > :44:14.backhand. That is part of the coach's job. Just to send out those

:44:15. > :44:16.signals, not only to the crowd at your opponent, that you are still in

:44:17. > :44:39.it. That is awkward for Monfils. He's

:44:40. > :44:45.OK. He's OK, but he has three break points down. Edmund did the right

:44:46. > :44:46.thing, just tucking in behind Monfils. The change of direction did

:44:47. > :45:33.for him. Didn't he take it well! Kyle Edmund

:45:34. > :45:45.breaks back in this second set, and now Centre Court comes to life.

:45:46. > :45:56.Will he feed off that? Not quite a Davis Cup crowd yet. It depends on

:45:57. > :46:01.the player, the relationship between the player and the audience. He's

:46:02. > :46:03.got to build on it. It is hot out here for the players and the fans,

:46:04. > :46:11.and if they are getting that engagement, sometimes it can almost

:46:12. > :46:14.be a bit passive. A bit of a shock to Monfils, the way that pain went

:46:15. > :46:19.away from him, because he will have felt in his comfort zone and in

:46:20. > :47:33.control. -- the way that game went away.

:47:34. > :47:42.Monfils struggling to get to grips with his serve in this game. His

:47:43. > :47:48.level has just dipped a bit. I think he has got a body blow. He lost his

:47:49. > :47:49.serve, momentum is switching. He is experienced and he knows what that

:47:50. > :48:13.means. A rapid game from Gael Monfils, but

:48:14. > :48:18.a hold to love, what Kyle Edmund wanted, and now he has his nose in

:48:19. > :48:24.front in this second set. STUDIO: Kyle right back in this

:48:25. > :48:28.match, and we will return to Centre Court in a moment, but we will

:48:29. > :48:33.update you with what is happening on a couple of other courts. On Court

:48:34. > :48:37.Number One, Novak Djokovic is two sets to one up and a break of serve

:48:38. > :48:40.up against Adam Pavlasek of the Czech Republic, and what a

:48:41. > :48:45.difference a few weeks makes, when he walked away from the French Open

:48:46. > :48:49.disappointed, but went down to Eastbourne, build some confidence

:48:50. > :48:52.and he now has real momentum. The three-time champion going well on

:48:53. > :49:00.Court Number One. That match is over on BBC Two. Over on Court Number

:49:01. > :49:05.Two, Agnieszka Radwanska fighting hard against Christina McHale. This

:49:06. > :49:09.is about the fifth deuce they have had, with Christina McHale serving

:49:10. > :49:13.to take the first set. They have met five times the poor and she has

:49:14. > :49:20.never won Chris set, so will this be the first time? That is featured on

:49:21. > :49:24.the red button. -- they have met five times before and she has never

:49:25. > :49:29.won a set. Everybody is enjoying the weather. We have had some wonderful

:49:30. > :49:32.weather in the first few days at Wimbledon, and hopefully more to

:49:33. > :49:33.come. That's what's happening elsewhere, so lets rejoin Centre

:49:34. > :49:44.Court. It's not just what you do on the

:49:45. > :49:48.court, in terms of the shots, but your body language and showing your

:49:49. > :49:54.opponent as well. Hey, I'm feeling good as well, spring out from your

:49:55. > :49:56.chair, whatever. Exactly, and Kyle has done well to switch the momentum

:49:57. > :50:09.briefly. He is a player that likes to walk

:50:10. > :50:15.around with his head down. You could say that Edmund has good

:50:16. > :50:16.concentration, but he almost needed that engagement with the crowd, to

:50:17. > :50:49.look them in the eye. He hung in there well, and Edmund,

:50:50. > :50:51.having never come back from 2-0 set down, you feel this is a must win

:50:52. > :51:04.set. Can you remember how many times you

:51:05. > :51:09.came back from 2-0 down? A couple of times. Can I guess, maybe eight or

:51:10. > :51:26.nine? Edmund must see that Monfils is

:51:27. > :51:40.wounded. A correction by the line judge. It

:51:41. > :52:03.is Monfils, and Edmund not querying it. Good to see.

:52:04. > :52:12.A reply from Monfils. He knows how important it is for him to keep

:52:13. > :52:18.momentum going. A strong service came from the Frenchman. He is a

:52:19. > :52:23.veteran and he knows this type of situations, they changed the outcome

:52:24. > :52:31.of the whole match. Really engaging with his box now. Something of a

:52:32. > :53:44.mess in the Edmund corner. A misfire from Edmund. Long once

:53:45. > :53:54.more. And Monfils now sensing blood. How many big forehands you want to

:53:55. > :54:08.hit? Three, four, six?! You are bound to make a mistake eventually.

:54:09. > :54:27.He can't find a first serve just now.

:54:28. > :54:45.Monfils just punting the ball back, slowing down the pace. Wanting

:54:46. > :55:12.Edmund to go for even more speed and pace.

:55:13. > :55:19.The forehand long again. He is putting so much pressure on his

:55:20. > :55:26.game, you cannot land that first serve just now. Two break points for

:55:27. > :55:40.Gael Monfils. And now the crowd tries to lift their man.

:55:41. > :55:43.That mistake gives it away again to Gael Monfils, who closes in on this

:55:44. > :55:58.second set. STUDIO: Monfils will be serving 42-0

:55:59. > :56:03.lead in a moment. We have seen the crowds, they are fanning themselves

:56:04. > :56:06.on Centre Court. It is so hot here. It is 28 degrees in the shade, and

:56:07. > :56:11.it's very humid as well. Out on court number three, the match

:56:12. > :56:16.between Quang Martin Del Potro and Ernests Gulbis, they have stopped

:56:17. > :56:21.playing for over 23 minutes, because two spectators have fainted in the

:56:22. > :56:28.crowd. There is no wind or breeze that gets into these roles shaped

:56:29. > :56:30.courts. One has been taken from the court, and another spectator is

:56:31. > :56:36.being treated courtside at the moment. The players are just looting

:56:37. > :56:42.and warming up. It's been 23 minutes of play since the last point. --

:56:43. > :56:46.just hitting and warming up. It looks as though maybe they will be

:56:47. > :56:47.ready to resume play. That's what's been happening on court number three

:56:48. > :56:58.on this very hot day at Wimbledon. Such frustration for Kyle Edmund,

:56:59. > :57:04.having broken back a couple of games ago. Now it ebbs away again. How

:57:05. > :57:12.does he get himself out of trouble here? He had made a good effort to

:57:13. > :57:17.get that break back. Serving at 4-4, it's important you do a good job

:57:18. > :57:23.limiting the unforced errors. With his best shot, his forehand, he made

:57:24. > :57:30.three mistakes in that game and really gifted Monfils the

:57:31. > :57:36.opportunity to serve 42-0 lead. -- to serve for a 2-0 lead. Given this

:57:37. > :57:51.kind of heat, that is a long way back.

:57:52. > :58:03.The Frenchman looks very focused now.

:58:04. > :58:10.He'll want to keep his focus if he wants to progress in the tournament.

:58:11. > :58:12.Doesn't want to be wasting unnecessary energy out here on a hot

:58:13. > :58:28.day. What a game to close it out! Gael

:58:29. > :58:32.Monfils motoring along. Two sets up and, if Kyle Edmund is going to have

:58:33. > :58:40.to do it, it will have to be coming from two sets down. A feeling in the

:58:41. > :58:45.centre could crowd now that they know the way this match is going.

:58:46. > :58:49.It's by no means a done deal, but it's amazing how quickly that set

:58:50. > :58:54.slipped away from Kyle Edmund. Ten minutes ago, he was on the verge of

:58:55. > :58:59.a comeback, he had broken back, and all of a sudden on 4-4, the energy

:59:00. > :59:06.went away. Three unforced errors on your best shot! That has nothing to

:59:07. > :59:11.do with the form but his attitude. There is something wrong about how

:59:12. > :59:12.he does this. Is first serve percentage was dropping all the time

:59:13. > :59:24.towards the end. The statistics for Gael Monfils are

:59:25. > :59:30.phenomenal. On that last game, he wasn't exactly just rolling them in.

:59:31. > :59:34.As you say, did Gael Monfils win that set or did Kyle Edmund lose it?

:59:35. > :59:43.You feel, at 4-4, the critical point, he really didn't deliver.

:59:44. > :59:50.There is a first for anything. I know we have spoken about never

:59:51. > :59:55.coming back from 2-0 sets down, but why don't you start today with

:59:56. > :59:58.changing the record? He just has to take it one game at a time and try

:59:59. > :00:04.and build himself back into the match. When Boris asked you about

:00:05. > :00:11.your comebacks from 2-0 down, so many of them, what were you

:00:12. > :00:17.thinking, I must do something different? It depends a bit on how

:00:18. > :00:21.you feel you've been playing and the matchup with your opponent. You have

:00:22. > :00:27.to take it one set, one game at a time. At 2-0 sets down, it seems a

:00:28. > :00:34.long way back. You have to have that belief. As you say, something that

:00:35. > :00:40.Edmund hasn't achieved yet, but there is no better place to start in

:00:41. > :00:45.on the Centre Court at Wimbledon. A few cries of support and

:00:46. > :01:02.encouragement for Kyle Edmund. He needs all the support he can get.

:01:03. > :01:08.And you have nothing to lose so you might as well change your strategy.

:01:09. > :01:15.Running around your backhand and only hitting forehands got him two

:01:16. > :01:17.sets to love down so he might as well mix it up. The worst thing that

:01:18. > :01:48.can happen is you lose. That's better. I mean it is evident

:01:49. > :01:53.to me that with such a big forehand, Edmund has to get more comfortable

:01:54. > :01:57.at the net, and he sets up so many opportunities when he can move

:01:58. > :02:02.forward and finish the point. It's the fourth time he has been to this

:02:03. > :02:07.net in the match. And that's not enough. It's not enough on any

:02:08. > :02:19.surface, let alone the grass court. Number four in that unwanted

:02:20. > :03:14.category for Kyle Edmund. He starts the set well. As Tim was

:03:15. > :03:19.saying, it's a long way back. You just have to focus on the next game

:03:20. > :03:27.and take small steps, and eventually see if you can find your way back on

:03:28. > :03:32.that long journey. And I bet that this gentleman, who won two Grand

:03:33. > :03:36.Slams, Forshaw came back many times from two sets to love because it's a

:03:37. > :03:45.different attitude, a different approach. You have to wind -- win

:03:46. > :03:53.when you're not playing well. You have to dig deep and find something

:03:54. > :04:00.within you. Monfils takes an awful lot of time on changeovers, it is

:04:01. > :04:04.within the rules. Just watching Monfils on the replay. I'm going to

:04:05. > :04:34.use the force, why not! Wide from Edmund. Enjoyed himself

:04:35. > :04:37.there, Gael Monfils. I thought for all the world he was going to go

:04:38. > :05:01.crosscourt here, Edmund. Edmund watches the hand of

:05:02. > :05:18.acknowledgement, knew that he was beaten by the lob. Oh! No one likes

:05:19. > :05:27.a show off! He's a great entertainer though, and the Centre Court loved

:05:28. > :05:35.it. How high was that jump! Damn! Michael Jordan like. Michael Jordan

:05:36. > :05:41.would have got it over the net. Still, don't stop doing that, Gael

:05:42. > :05:42.Monfils. We love you for it. One of the true characters in the men's

:05:43. > :06:04.game. The laughter stops now from Monfils.

:06:05. > :06:12.He's going to challenge this. Maybe a first double fault of the match,

:06:13. > :06:22.and it is. So the fun and frivolity stops as we move to 30-30.

:06:23. > :06:33.And that's the problem with it, that you pay the price for losing

:06:34. > :06:36.concentration. We have the break point here for a game that seemed to

:06:37. > :07:05.be over 30-0. This time he has the touch and he

:07:06. > :07:13.has the break. Monfils the great entertainer, but Edmund breakthrough

:07:14. > :07:21.at the start of this third set. And that very long road back is just a

:07:22. > :07:26.little bit shorter now. What a game because it has so much, and Monfils

:07:27. > :07:31.was cruising and smiling and entertaining the crowd and it

:07:32. > :07:35.suddenly went away from him. It certainly did and I would just like

:07:36. > :07:39.to see a little bit more of a reaction from Edmund. He's got the

:07:40. > :07:43.break early in the third and his almost apologetic with the last

:07:44. > :08:00.volley. Edmund gave Monfils a couple of

:08:01. > :08:05.donations at 4-40 in the second set and you feel that Monfils returned

:08:06. > :08:21.the favour in that last service game, 30-0 up.

:08:22. > :08:28.I'm not totally crazy with the server motion of Kyle Edmund. He's

:08:29. > :08:33.tall, he has got long arms and I don't feel he's really reaching out

:08:34. > :08:34.to the ball as some of the other great servers do. It's not the most

:08:35. > :08:56.natural motion. 40 degrees out there in the sun, we

:08:57. > :09:40.are told. And very few players go through an

:09:41. > :09:51.entire match without their levels to ping but Monfils has certainly got

:09:52. > :10:06.away with it for a moment. -- without their levels dipping.

:10:07. > :10:12.It's good, so Monfils gets a long look at the line but Edmund backs up

:10:13. > :10:31.that break. Done well to hold onto his serve

:10:32. > :10:37.after getting the break opportunity from Monfils, and again it is small

:10:38. > :10:42.steps, one step at a time to try to work his way through this third set

:10:43. > :10:47.and get into a fourth set. Then perhaps the pressure will be a

:10:48. > :10:52.little more on Monfils. Always a fascinating player to watch, this

:10:53. > :10:59.was a couple of games ago. He just decided to have a little guests at

:11:00. > :11:03.the way the ball was going. This was the smash which was great to watch.

:11:04. > :11:09.Basketball is actually his favourite sport, but he was all smiles after

:11:10. > :11:14.it. Have you ever seen this guy dance? He looks like a professional

:11:15. > :11:19.dancer. I saw him at a tournament two weeks ago, everyone was circling

:11:20. > :11:29.around and he put a move on, I tell you. In so many things he's talented

:11:30. > :11:35.as well as tennis. They had a dance off at Roland Garros and there were

:11:36. > :11:38.some impressive moves. Were you involved in that? Unfortunately I

:11:39. > :11:44.couldn't be there. Cleared your diary for it. He did seem to drift

:11:45. > :11:50.off in the last couple of games, but as you said, Boris, don't ever

:11:51. > :11:57.change. We like to watch it. You never know what you will get from

:11:58. > :12:02.Gael Monfils. Yes, and some people criticise him and say he could have

:12:03. > :12:06.won more tournaments. His very successful tennis player, a wealthy

:12:07. > :12:13.man so you cannot knock him for doing that.

:12:14. > :12:53.Suddenly you get a second wind, you start to feel a bit fresher.

:12:54. > :12:58.And the crowd has certainly perked up as well. The level of play has

:12:59. > :13:24.picked up a little bit. Who said Kyle Edmund could not hit

:13:25. > :13:26.that shot aggressively? I didn't! After an hour and 46 minutes, it was

:13:27. > :13:48.worth the wait. Another good one. UMPIRE: The ball

:13:49. > :13:56.was called out... It was the line judge, the umpire and effectively

:13:57. > :13:57.Monfils who thought it was long but Edmund has decided to go to

:13:58. > :14:19.Hawk-Eye. UMPIRE: Mr Edmund has two challenges

:14:20. > :14:36.remaining. That one too easy for Kyle Edmund,

:14:37. > :14:45.Monfils just laid it back in court and he dearly loves a double break.

:14:46. > :14:46.He knows that one break to be good against Monfils is still fragile

:14:47. > :15:30.lead. 132 mph. Edmund appreciated that, at my edit

:15:31. > :15:37.at least and Monfils holds. -- admired it at least. How was your

:15:38. > :15:47.dancing, Boris? My dancing was exceptional. OK, we will get other

:15:48. > :15:59.people's verdict. And why was it exceptional? After a new hip should

:16:00. > :16:08.I continue? That explains it. Finally, what about your dancing,

:16:09. > :16:14.Cotter? You don't dance, never? That is nonsense for show-offs. Not for a

:16:15. > :16:40.small fee? Most other players would have really

:16:41. > :16:47.been and upset after missing such an easy point, and Monfils just turn

:16:48. > :17:14.around, goes back and keeps his cool in these hot conditions.

:17:15. > :17:18.I think they are a little bit too reserved, they need to stand up and

:17:19. > :17:34.cheer for their man, do something. A mistake from Edmund and suddenly

:17:35. > :18:16.the pressure right back on, two break points for Gael Monfils.

:18:17. > :18:30.It is wild, loose, gone again for Kyle Edmund and Gael Monfils breaks

:18:31. > :18:35.back. To and fro of this match goes on. Frustrating for Edmund, when you

:18:36. > :18:39.are taking chances and going for big forehands, you will miss from time

:18:40. > :18:44.to time but it seems like when one error comes the second and third

:18:45. > :18:50.follow in quick succession. And again to drop serve as he did as

:18:51. > :19:04.well at 4-4 in the second set, three unforced errors.

:19:05. > :19:18.A very accomplished coach, he's wondering whether Dan can come on

:19:19. > :19:28.court and give him some advice. A phone call has been put in. Send for

:19:29. > :19:38.Dan. As far as I know, coaching is not allowed yet. Not even if it's

:19:39. > :19:48.the head coach at all England? Everybody could ask for Dan, Dan the

:19:49. > :19:52.man. He wasn't too far away from the double break, Kyle Edmund, and we

:19:53. > :19:58.suspected he would need that insurance and lo and behold Gael

:19:59. > :20:01.Monfils breaks back. This isn't a permanent coaching setup, we don't

:20:02. > :20:08.know yet, but after leaving Ryan Jones recently he hasn't got that

:20:09. > :20:18.firmly established coaching setup to really roar for him or give him that

:20:19. > :20:20.encouragement. They might not feel comfortable in that role, if it's a

:20:21. > :20:32.transitional one. And a nice way for Edmund to start

:20:33. > :21:13.the Monfils service game. Neither player entirely comfortable

:21:14. > :21:30.on serve at the moment. Time for a change.

:21:31. > :21:37.A change of racket required, just puts halt on the flow of Edmund in

:21:38. > :21:52.this game. I'm not saying that's why he's done it, but... Well spotted!

:21:53. > :22:14.That racket is working a bit better. 134, the fastest of the match. It

:22:15. > :22:17.was a magic racket will stop but all within the rules. If you don't like

:22:18. > :22:31.your racket, you are allowed to change it.

:22:32. > :22:39.Interesting that Kyle Edmund took a moment to himself there, wins the

:22:40. > :22:43.point, break point once more for Kyle Edmund. Disappears in a flash

:22:44. > :23:18.of white. The Frenchman plays with a lot of

:23:19. > :23:22.conviction. Serving wise, and now he really controls now the tempo. More

:23:23. > :23:45.training in Miami required. When is the point. I don't think

:23:46. > :24:13.Monfils was expecting that serve to come back. The fastest of the match,

:24:14. > :24:17.Edmund is still challenging this game, and it's been again where

:24:18. > :24:38.Monfils has served well. Again, the return of the very

:24:39. > :24:40.highest quality. The beautiful exchange now. Both players are

:24:41. > :25:05.rising to the occasion. Good tennis. Not quite. A bit of running for no

:25:06. > :25:50.return. So the hold for Gael Monfils and the

:25:51. > :25:54.break point disappears for Edmund. A good game, one of the more

:25:55. > :26:01.entertaining ones in the match. The crowd enjoying it. It is 2-0 to Gael

:26:02. > :26:26.Monfils, but it's been a close match.

:26:27. > :26:41.Gael used the whole court, and again interacting with the crowd. They

:26:42. > :26:47.liked it. So in a straight sprint, Boris, who do you think is the

:26:48. > :26:57.fastest guy on the tour? Monfils has got to be in there, hasn't he?

:26:58. > :27:04.Certainly. Young from America, I watched him yesterday with Nadal

:27:05. > :27:20.playing, he's very quick as well. Brilliant, Monfils, every inch of

:27:21. > :28:06.the Centre Court used, and Edmund in trouble again.

:28:07. > :28:16.Did not move his legs at all. Did you say he was a good dancer?

:28:17. > :28:43.Because that was awful. There was no music playing!

:28:44. > :28:50.Challenge from Kyle Edmund, sort of half a challenge, half a frustrated

:28:51. > :28:55.wave of the arm. I think the coaching box of Gael Monfils know

:28:56. > :29:07.that this is good. I think perhaps Edmund does as well. Just points

:29:08. > :29:18.like that where Monfils shows he's got an extra gear. He celebrates

:29:19. > :29:27.before the ball lands, and Gael Monfils is closing in on a place in

:29:28. > :29:35.the third round. SUE BARKER: four games in a row for

:29:36. > :29:39.Gael Monfils. We will be back on centre in just a moment but we will

:29:40. > :29:43.tell you what's happening elsewhere, and this was just a short time ago

:29:44. > :29:52.over on Court Number One with Novak Djokovic cruising through in an hour

:29:53. > :29:56.and a half against Adam Pavlasek. If anyone was worried about the form of

:29:57. > :30:00.Novak Djokovic, have no fears any more. He looked right back to his

:30:01. > :30:04.best. He started building his confidence last week in Eastbourne

:30:05. > :30:12.and seemed to be hitting the ball very sweetly indeed. The three-time

:30:13. > :30:24.champion is into the next round here at Wimbledon. And Zverev has come

:30:25. > :30:29.through a real battle against his opponent. They both were struggling,

:30:30. > :30:34.with the trainer on court. No wonder that took a while, look at the

:30:35. > :30:49.length of the rallies they were having. So Zverev is through. And we

:30:50. > :30:55.can update you on progress of Radwanska, she lost the first set to

:30:56. > :31:00.the unseeded Christina McHale. She such a tough competitor, she will be

:31:01. > :31:06.fighting her way back into this. That match is currently over on BBC

:31:07. > :31:14.Two. And over on Court three, look at this, this man in real trouble.

:31:15. > :31:24.Martin Del porte trop two sets to love and a break of serve Gulbis.

:31:25. > :31:31.Down to -- a break of serve down to Gulbis.

:31:32. > :31:36.The winner of that match goes through to face Novak Djokovic. That

:31:37. > :31:42.is what is happening elsewhere. Back we go.

:31:43. > :31:50.A couple of aces to start this game for Gael Monfils. Edmund has broken

:31:51. > :31:58.the Frenchman a couple of times, but he'll have to do so again.

:31:59. > :32:16.There is no way over Monfils, with a shot of that height.

:32:17. > :32:32.Nothing at all for Edmund. Monfils romps through a service game.

:32:33. > :32:42.A cloud over Centre Court now, befitting. I think everybody senses

:32:43. > :32:45.the end is nigh, Doris. Whenever the top guys see the finish line, they

:32:46. > :33:02.increase the level, pushing a bit more.

:33:03. > :33:13.It is because he wanted to do that. A bit casual from Monfils, but

:33:14. > :33:18.beautifully put away. That's a thing of beauty in slow motion. A

:33:19. > :33:21.different player and he was in the first set. The first couple of

:33:22. > :33:23.games, both players were tentative, and all of a sudden, he shows his

:33:24. > :33:34.true colours. He doesn't want his stay on Centre

:33:35. > :34:31.Court to be over just yet. Monfils again sort of abandoning

:34:32. > :34:40.things towards the end. Edmund still fighting.

:34:41. > :35:28.He looks a broken man, Monfils, but it is an illusion.

:35:29. > :35:37.At the very least, Edmund can force Monfils to serve for this match.

:35:38. > :35:48.Absolutely. It's a whole other ball game.

:35:49. > :35:54.And so he does. He asked a further question of Gael Monfils. Kyle

:35:55. > :36:09.Edmund holds. So, if Monfils is to go through,

:36:10. > :36:11.what do we make of him for a contender for deeper in the

:36:12. > :36:17.tournament? He is always entertaining to watch. Perhaps

:36:18. > :36:22.doesn't quite have the level of consistency of the very best? That's

:36:23. > :36:26.right. He's worked hard in that area to be more consistent and, where you

:36:27. > :36:32.see him in the draw, to play Mannarino, that's a pretty good

:36:33. > :36:37.opportunity. He could potentially play Djokovic in the fourth round. I

:36:38. > :36:41.see him winning the next one, if he comes through this, but I'm not

:36:42. > :36:48.necessarily sure he's going to progress much further. He is 15 in

:36:49. > :36:53.the world, after all. His ranking says he's supposed to go to the

:36:54. > :36:58.fourth round. He will meet one of the highest seeds in that case,

:36:59. > :37:03.Novak. Their head-to-head record is a bit one-sided, if I may say so.

:37:04. > :37:04.But it's good to see the Frenchman playing like this, with a lot of

:37:05. > :37:12.passion and enthusiasm. Obviously, he still has to serve it

:37:13. > :37:32.out. Rod Laver watching on with the rest

:37:33. > :37:36.from the royal box, and perhaps about to watch the final game in

:37:37. > :37:38.this match, as Gael Monfils, the number 15 seed, serves for a place

:37:39. > :37:53.in the next round. UMPIRE: Mr Edmonds is challenging

:37:54. > :38:01.the call. The ball was called out. Couldn't criticise Edmund for

:38:02. > :38:30.holding back. Perhaps not much time for Kyle

:38:31. > :38:50.Edmund. And it's good. A great forehand

:38:51. > :39:17.brings up three match points. To the net it goes, and into the

:39:18. > :39:21.third round goes Gael Monfils. He has entertained again, and he has

:39:22. > :39:27.entered the dreams on Centre Court of Kyle Edmund. -- he has ended.

:39:28. > :39:35.It's Gael Monfils who moves through to round three with a straight sets

:39:36. > :39:41.win over the British number two. And most of the crowd will have wanted

:39:42. > :39:45.Kyle Edmund to win, but I am sure plenty will be delighted to see Gael

:39:46. > :39:49.Monfils go through, because he is one of the most popular characters,

:39:50. > :39:53.and that was a comfortable win in the end. In the context of the

:39:54. > :39:56.match, the first set was crucial. They both played some good tennis

:39:57. > :40:06.but, at the important moments, Monfils had the extra gear to go up

:40:07. > :40:10.to, and he was a deserving straight sets win over. You talk about

:40:11. > :40:15.learning processes and things to experience and take for Kyle Edmund,

:40:16. > :40:23.to move on, what can he take from this? It's an experience. He has won

:40:24. > :40:28.a round at Wimbledon. The first time he's been out on Centre Court. But I

:40:29. > :40:32.think he can improve. He is 50 in the world but I think, with the

:40:33. > :40:38.weapons he's got, he needs to be more comfortable moving forward and

:40:39. > :40:40.continue to improve his defensive skills. Probably, mentally, he needs

:40:41. > :40:47.more belief in himself. Wood he doesn't want to leave for now but,

:40:48. > :40:51.trainers in hand, he does that fostered a gift for somebody. I am

:40:52. > :40:58.sure he will return to this place, but Gael Monfils, loving presence to

:40:59. > :41:04.the crowd as well, and such a popular figure. Kyle Edmund

:41:05. > :41:09.desperately wanted to be in the third round, but not to be. He

:41:10. > :41:17.competed well and had his chances and breaks, but ultimately

:41:18. > :41:27.outclassed by the better man. So on goes Gael Monfils to play either

:41:28. > :41:30.Yuichi Sugita of Japan or Adrian Mannarino, another Frenchman.

:41:31. > :41:33.Possibly a lost 16 meeting with Novak Djokovic, which would be a

:41:34. > :41:39.different matter entirely. But he has done what was required for him

:41:40. > :41:43.today. The number 15 seed is safely through in straight sets. Things

:41:44. > :41:45.might have been different if Edmund had come through the tie-break in

:41:46. > :41:52.the first set, but Monfils goes through. Congratulations. What

:41:53. > :41:56.worked and hard-fought points. You must be delighted to have got that

:41:57. > :42:02.done in straight sets. I think I played a good match today. I went

:42:03. > :42:10.straight in and the first set was a tough battle and that was a big

:42:11. > :42:14.moment in the match. Kyle tried to come back, but did you always feel

:42:15. > :42:19.in control? I think I was pretty solid. He was playing at home, and

:42:20. > :42:24.never easy to give up, but I think he could up a great fight. I was a

:42:25. > :42:29.bit better than him. We were all a bit concerned about you in the first

:42:30. > :42:38.set and you looked concerned about your need. I still have... But I fix

:42:39. > :42:42.it with my team. I have heard you say in the past you haven't

:42:43. > :42:45.previously been a big fan of grass, but surely the way you have been

:42:46. > :42:50.playing in the run-up to this, you must be becoming more of a fan. Iron

:42:51. > :42:54.I am just playing a bit better and I just try to understand a bit better

:42:55. > :43:01.the game on grass. But I do what I can.

:43:02. > :43:05.STUDIO: Very honest, but we are huge fans of years. One of the most

:43:06. > :43:10.entertaining players. He plays shots that don't exist in the textbook, he

:43:11. > :43:14.doesn't like grass, he doesn't like the movement on grass, but he is

:43:15. > :43:16.certainly playing well at these championships and very well over the

:43:17. > :43:25.last nine months. Gael Monfils winning on Centre Court. Lets get

:43:26. > :43:31.some further reaction to it from Boris and Tim in the commentary box.

:43:32. > :43:36.Tim, not a fan of the grass. You couldn't believe it, could you! He

:43:37. > :43:40.looked so good out there. That's right, and his performances are

:43:41. > :43:43.getting better. He won four matches at Eastbourne and now he is through

:43:44. > :43:49.to the third round here. That has to help his feelings on grass. With the

:43:50. > :43:54.way that he plays, he has big weapons. He can be very explosive

:43:55. > :43:58.but he likes to defend a lot. He gets deep in the baseline. That

:43:59. > :44:02.isn't easy on grass. Fingers crossed, he can enjoy himself,

:44:03. > :44:06.because he did well today. It was hot out there. The first set was

:44:07. > :44:10.crucial, and he was able to raise his level and come out on top. He is

:44:11. > :44:15.wonderful to watch, but how difficult must it be in his mind

:44:16. > :44:18.when he has so many different shots he can use to make the right choice

:44:19. > :44:25.at the right time must remark it's always a struggle for everybody. He

:44:26. > :44:29.likes to play a full game. He not only plays to win the point but it

:44:30. > :44:39.have to be beautiful. He is famous for his smashes. Most of he picked

:44:40. > :44:43.the right choices. That was so casual, that little one. He makes it

:44:44. > :44:49.look so easy, and it isn't an easy game. That is part of his character.

:44:50. > :44:53.He likes to have fun on the court. Most of it, it goes well. Sometimes,

:44:54. > :45:01.it's borderline. In the third set, he lost his serve because he did a

:45:02. > :45:06.short smash, but overall he stuck to his game plan paid a pretty solid

:45:07. > :45:13.match. Bessbrook played a pretty solid match. What positive elements

:45:14. > :45:16.can Kyle take from the match? I just want more from him. He is a good

:45:17. > :45:22.player. I don't think he should be ranked 50. He should be knocking on

:45:23. > :45:26.the door of the top 30 and then top 20, but there are still areas he can

:45:27. > :45:30.add. He has such a big forehand, but if you can look to move forward and

:45:31. > :45:33.finish points occasionally at the net, it will give them an extra

:45:34. > :45:40.dimension and put a bit more about into his opponent's mind. Mentally,

:45:41. > :45:45.his character on the court, I think he needs to express himself a bit

:45:46. > :45:49.better, and I think that will help him with his overall belief, because

:45:50. > :45:54.he is a very good player. I'd like to see him back at the champions

:45:55. > :45:59.next year, definitely seeded and in the second week. I asked you what

:46:00. > :46:06.positives he could take, not what he could improve! That is positive. If

:46:07. > :46:09.I said he was out there and he had maximised his potential, that's as

:46:10. > :46:13.good as he's got, that would be a little bit more disappointing. But,

:46:14. > :46:19.for me, he is still scratching the surface. But I think he needs to

:46:20. > :46:26.sort out his coaching situation. He needs a coaching team around him. He

:46:27. > :46:32.has a couple of witnesses. He's only 22, a great guy, but he needs to

:46:33. > :46:37.improve the quality of his tennis. -- a couple of witnesses. What would

:46:38. > :46:43.a country doing, watching the horror of the first set tie-break? That is

:46:44. > :46:47.what changed the match. -- what would a coach be doing. Whoever gets

:46:48. > :46:52.ahead has the momentum, but with that first set, we thought whoever

:46:53. > :46:59.won it would be in the driver seat, that's what happened. Kyle came back

:47:00. > :47:03.in the third set, a break up, but he put everything into the first three

:47:04. > :47:08.or four games and, afterwards, Gael Monfils got into fifth and sixth

:47:09. > :47:14.gear. That is what great players do, they see the finish line and play a

:47:15. > :47:20.bit and play even better. To be fair, Kyle Edmund is normally put in

:47:21. > :47:24.that situation. That's right. I felt, when he made unforced errors,

:47:25. > :47:26.there was a second and a third that followed. When you are in a

:47:27. > :47:32.tie-break and every point is crucial, that's going to be

:47:33. > :47:37.expensive. But he played a poor tie-break and I don't think we can

:47:38. > :47:41.read into it any more. The conditions today, very hot out

:47:42. > :47:45.there. You want to get your nose in front and be up a set. When Monfils

:47:46. > :47:53.won the first set, you felt that was crucial. He is looming up towards

:47:54. > :47:57.Novak Djokovic. Doesn't have a great head-to-head against Novak, but he

:47:58. > :48:07.still got to get there. He is looking good on grass, even he's not

:48:08. > :48:10.a fan. He mentioned earlier that he doesn't like grass, but he certainly

:48:11. > :48:15.liked the last couple of games. He needs to be a bit more aggressive

:48:16. > :48:19.and take more chances. He is a beast of an athlete, a freak of nature. I

:48:20. > :48:28.want to see more of that. We all do! Thank you. Lets take a look at what

:48:29. > :48:32.is happening around the grounds here on another very busy day of the

:48:33. > :48:38.All-England championships. Agnieszka Radwanska, wow, she is in trouble.

:48:39. > :48:41.This could be a big upset, the number nine seed, to Christina

:48:42. > :48:45.McHale, who has never beaten her before. She is up in a second set

:48:46. > :48:51.tie-break, but she is fighting hard, Radwanska. She has won that point.

:48:52. > :48:59.Still a long way to go. That is on BBC Two. He was in real trouble when

:49:00. > :49:05.we last looked in, Juan Martin Del Potro, and he is still two sets to

:49:06. > :49:13.lob down and a break of serve down. You can see that match on the red

:49:14. > :49:18.button and the BBC sport website. It's a warm day, 28 degrees in the

:49:19. > :49:21.shade, around 40 degrees in the sun on some of the courts, and no wonder

:49:22. > :49:27.some spectators are suffering and many people still on the hill

:49:28. > :49:30.enjoying the tennis. No British victory on Centre Court today, but

:49:31. > :49:33.there were many magnificent victories yesterday, including that

:49:34. > :49:45.of Heather Watson, who was out on court. She put at the 18th seed,

:49:46. > :49:50.Sevastova, 6-0, 6-4. Heather Watson, who did so well against Serena

:49:51. > :49:53.Williams two years ago, is back in the third round yet again. She was

:49:54. > :50:00.really in the doldrums a couple of months ago, but she got new coaches

:50:01. > :50:03.and they have certainly restored some confidence. A big smile from

:50:04. > :50:08.Heather yesterday and after the match she spoke to Claire.

:50:09. > :50:13.Congratulations. Was that first set is close to perfect tennis as you

:50:14. > :50:17.have played at Wimbledon? I'm not sure. I felt my first match was

:50:18. > :50:23.similar. I got out of the blocks quickly in both and ran my bit. I

:50:24. > :50:28.thought today I was pretty flawless in the first set and I felt great.

:50:29. > :50:31.As the second set started, I expected her to raise the level,

:50:32. > :50:36.which she did, and to chuck something different at me, so I was

:50:37. > :50:40.pleased with how I stayed calm and kept my focus and didn't let that

:50:41. > :50:46.affect me. Did you feel a different player? Do you feel you have taken a

:50:47. > :50:51.step forward? I feel great within my game the last few weeks and months.

:50:52. > :50:55.I've been putting in the work. I've got a new coaching team on board.

:50:56. > :51:00.I'm in a good place and I'm happy and enjoying just working hard and

:51:01. > :51:06.being on the practice court. Sue Barker, Sam Smith, Joe Drury,

:51:07. > :51:09.everybody is saying you should be top 20. You have been top 40.

:51:10. > :51:16.Obviously there is a big climb to make back. Do you feel it is

:51:17. > :51:20.possible? Absolutely. I have beaten a lot of top 20 players in the last

:51:21. > :51:26.couple weeks. I am playing really well. I've been on for a long time

:51:27. > :51:30.now and I know how I'm playing. -- I've been on tour. I feel confident

:51:31. > :51:36.and more experienced at a moment and like I know how take advantage of

:51:37. > :51:41.playing well. Would it be fair to say you've never prepared for

:51:42. > :51:44.Wimbledon as thoroughly as this year? I remember coming to Wimbledon

:51:45. > :51:48.a couple of years ago and I was also in the semifinals of Eastbourne but,

:51:49. > :51:53.like I said, I feel more experienced this time and I've played some

:51:54. > :51:57.really tough opponents coming in, so I think that's prepared me as best

:51:58. > :52:01.as I could be. You are in the third round, and you've been there before.

:52:02. > :52:08.Victoria Azarenka awaits. What's your plan? That's a secret! But

:52:09. > :52:14.also, I haven't made a plan yet! But she's a great player, very tough

:52:15. > :52:18.opponent. With myself, I'm going to continue doing what I do with my

:52:19. > :52:22.game and remain aggressive, but I'll be doing my research on her and

:52:23. > :52:27.watching how she's been playing recently to come up with some good

:52:28. > :52:30.tactics. If you made the fourth round, is there anything that you

:52:31. > :52:38.said to your team that he would want them to do? Actually, one of my

:52:39. > :52:42.coaches told me he said, Heather, I've got a good feeling, this was a

:52:43. > :52:48.few days ago, if you make the fourth round, I'll shave my head. I said,

:52:49. > :52:52.my goodness, Morgan, your girlfriend is going to kill you! You can shave

:52:53. > :52:58.your legs. Finally the second week, he'll shave his legs. I love that!

:52:59. > :53:05.And no celebrations planned at all until you get to a point that is the

:53:06. > :53:09.furthest possible? Oh yeah, I'm in tournament mood right now. I haven't

:53:10. > :53:14.even thought of celebrating anything. In my mind, there's

:53:15. > :53:17.nothing to celebrate because I'm still in the tournament and I still

:53:18. > :53:21.have another match the play. My focus is on getting through that

:53:22. > :53:27.one. Good luck and well done. Every player need some motivation and to

:53:28. > :53:30.get your coach to save his legs, yes, that'll do it! She takes on

:53:31. > :53:35.Victoria Azarenka tomorrow. Back on Centre Court, we now await the

:53:36. > :53:40.favourite for the ladies title, after the defeat of Petra Kvitova

:53:41. > :53:47.yesterday, Karolina Pliskova. She has really been the player of 2017.

:53:48. > :53:53.She's coming out to face Magdalena Rybarikova Slovakia. Most of the

:53:54. > :53:57.crowd probably taken in a bit of shade, as it is so warm and humid at

:53:58. > :54:02.Wimbledon, but they will be coming back to see this young lady, who has

:54:03. > :54:06.been playing so well, especially on grass, winning at Eastbourne. She

:54:07. > :54:11.had a new coach at the end of last year, Petra Kvitova's former coach,

:54:12. > :54:12.and she has changed her serve and she has a better percentage as well.

:54:13. > :54:26.Lets hear from the new favourite. Tell me how pleased you were with

:54:27. > :54:30.your start to this year's Wimbledon tournament. I think I started pretty

:54:31. > :54:33.solid, especially with my second appearance here. Amazing to play but

:54:34. > :54:42.I was expecting a bit worse for me for the first round, but I held my

:54:43. > :54:47.nerves pretty well. And the number three seed uses her way into the

:54:48. > :54:53.second round. Has something turned in your game on grass? I've been

:54:54. > :54:58.working on a few things but nothing specific. I'm hoping my game can be

:54:59. > :55:03.good on the grass, especially with my serve and aggressive style, from

:55:04. > :55:06.the baseline. Is it as much of a surprise to you as the experts that

:55:07. > :55:14.you haven't been at the as you would have liked at Wimbledon in the past?

:55:15. > :55:20.A little bit, but hopefully I have a good chance this year. I'm feeling

:55:21. > :55:24.great and I believe I can go far. Looking at this year's tournament, a

:55:25. > :55:30.lot of people are talking about how open it is. What is your view? I

:55:31. > :55:35.think it's pretty open. There are few grass court specialists on this

:55:36. > :55:39.tournament, so some of the girls are tough to play on grass, so every

:55:40. > :55:42.tournament is different. I believe everybody has the chance to win. I'm

:55:43. > :55:47.going to do my best to win. Another thing people are talking about is

:55:48. > :55:50.the number one spot in the world. Is that in your thoughts or do you put

:55:51. > :55:57.that out of your mind during the tournament? I'm not trying to focus

:55:58. > :56:01.on these things because it would destroy my game. I just want to play

:56:02. > :56:06.well on the court and what happens after, we'll see. We are all still

:56:07. > :56:10.in the game, so it's going to be tough, but I believe if I go find

:56:11. > :56:17.play well, I have a chance to be world number one. -- if I go far and

:56:18. > :56:22.play well. Karolina Pliskova, she may well be a future world number

:56:23. > :56:28.one. Dudi Sela on court number 12 has defeated John Isner, who threw

:56:29. > :56:39.down 45 aces in the match. It wasn't enough. Dudi Sela 18 6-3 in the

:56:40. > :56:44.final set. -- Dudi Sela 18. Five foot nine, defeating the sixth at

:56:45. > :56:52.ten John Isner in three hours and 51 minutes. What a story. He is through

:56:53. > :56:55.to face Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, the number 13 seed. What a match

:56:56. > :57:02.they had out there. Huge drama on court 12. That's just happened we

:57:03. > :57:03.are going straight to Centre Court. The match is just underway, so lets

:57:04. > :57:33.join Tracy Austin and Andrew Castle. A boiling hot Centre Court. 20 of

:57:34. > :57:37.humidity. The grass, I'm told by the man who looks after this court, he

:57:38. > :57:45.says it's very, very stressed at the moment. It won't die, but it could

:57:46. > :57:56.certainly will. It is playing fast and hard. -- it could certainly

:57:57. > :58:00.wilt. Not quite. Karolina Pliskova, number three in the world in the

:58:01. > :58:04.rankings, but this year, based on performances, this 25-year-old is

:58:05. > :58:09.number one in the world. Stunning player. Recently a winner in

:58:10. > :58:21.Eastbourne. And, when it comes to serving aces,

:58:22. > :58:25.there is nobody better. 95 aces on tour this year. That is a leading

:58:26. > :58:30.tour number, in the absence of Serena Williams. She is expecting

:58:31. > :58:41.her first child. It's a wonderful, natural service motion.

:58:42. > :58:47.This is a very difficult first round draw for the higher ranked player.

:58:48. > :58:54.Magdalena Rybarikova, on the comeback trail. That was after two

:58:55. > :58:59.separate sets of surgery that could have ended her career. She is also

:59:00. > :58:59.very effective on grass. A bit of a treat for the women's draw,

:59:00. > :59:16.second-round match. Pliskova versus Rybarikova, as

:59:17. > :59:25.everybody starts to come back into Centre Court at the first sit down

:59:26. > :59:31.after three games. Rybarikova from Slovakia, 87 in the world, but

:59:32. > :59:37.really that's a triumph. She was 31 in 2013 but, earlier this year, she

:59:38. > :59:40.was 453. Surgery kept her out of the game and she came out without any

:59:41. > :59:43.expectations of getting anywhere near tentacled or winning

:59:44. > :59:48.tournaments, and she has already won at Ilkley and Surbiton. -- anywhere

:59:49. > :00:27.near Centre Court. This is a dangerous match for Pliskova.

:00:28. > :00:35.For a couple of reasons. Rybarikova's game is suited to this

:00:36. > :00:42.surface. The backhand is flat as well. Slice on herself. She's very

:00:43. > :00:44.comfortable in the forecourt, throws in some drop shots, take the player

:00:45. > :01:01.out of their rhythm. Like that. Pliskova likes the ball

:01:02. > :01:10.right at the waist level time and time again. Rybarikova can get that

:01:11. > :01:21.slice down low, hit one hard, then hit short, mix it up beautifully.

:01:22. > :01:25.Her serve is missing by Miles at the moment. Evidence of nerves. Why not?

:01:26. > :01:39.You're on Centre Court. Nicely done. The other reason

:01:40. > :01:44.Rybarikova is dangerous is because she's playing with a lot of

:01:45. > :01:49.confidence, she won four of those ITFs. Three on grass. 14 and one

:01:50. > :01:55.already in this grass court season, that is a lot of grass court wins.

:01:56. > :02:07.She only lost two Jo Konta in the semifinal at Nottingham.

:02:08. > :02:14.These early stages are so difficult for those who haven't been on the

:02:15. > :02:18.bigger stages. I'm thinking that Pliskova might not have played on

:02:19. > :02:21.Centre Court, looking at all the people she's played, she's lost in

:02:22. > :02:26.the second round the past four years here at Wimbledon, she's never

:02:27. > :02:33.passed the second round. She was on Court One the other day. The first

:02:34. > :02:40.round, only the second time she was on Court One. You're right, she has

:02:41. > :02:43.much more experience deeper in slams. This Centre Court can be

:02:44. > :03:05.awfully daunting when you come onto it.

:03:06. > :03:19.Absolutely stunning, so few feel comfortable with the serve-volley on

:03:20. > :04:17.the women's side. Rybarikova will mix that in sparingly.

:04:18. > :04:24.Pliskova well aware of the variety that's going to come off the

:04:25. > :05:31.Rybarikova's racket, so she was quick to that drop shots.

:05:32. > :05:40.The world number one player this year, Karolina Pliskova, you very

:05:41. > :05:43.rarely see her rushed, the production of her shot is

:05:44. > :05:48.technically so sound. She never panics. We mentioned her Grand Slam

:05:49. > :05:52.record. Until recently, last year's US Open, had been pretty average,

:05:53. > :05:57.she never been beyond the third round of a Grand Slam event. She

:05:58. > :06:03.made the final of that. Venus and Serena along the way, she had match

:06:04. > :06:19.point against Venus in the fourth round.

:06:20. > :06:27.I was there that day in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Venus Williams was playing

:06:28. > :06:33.well, the crowd were completely fired up, such is the heroic status

:06:34. > :06:37.of the Williams sisters, of course, in United States. And Pliskova took

:06:38. > :07:06.it all, nobody had ever heard of her, not in New York City.

:07:07. > :07:14.Rybarikova having to work awfully hard to hold the first service game,

:07:15. > :07:20.serving three break points already. Pliskova has that great ability with

:07:21. > :07:39.a first strike. Huge first serve. So effortless on the return as well.

:07:40. > :07:46.Wouldn't it be nice to play tennis like this? I mean, there's just

:07:47. > :07:55.never any drama. She just moves around the court with such control,

:07:56. > :07:57.with poise. Reminds me of Martina Hingis, the way she nonchalantly

:07:58. > :08:37.goes around picking the perfect shot.

:08:38. > :08:53.Suite. So crafty. Phenomenal hands, well disguised. Heavy slice under

:08:54. > :09:25.it. At the last second. What great movement! Both players.

:09:26. > :09:28.The best match out here on Centre Court yesterday, despite the fact

:09:29. > :09:31.Andy Murray was there, and Rafa Nadal field everybody in the

:09:32. > :09:36.evening, the best match by far, in fact I think the best match, centre

:09:37. > :09:43.all week was the women's match between Jo Konta and Donna Vekic.

:09:44. > :09:59.It's possible this one will be the best match of today. Federer next.

:10:00. > :10:02.If Rybarikova can keep it close. She's going to be thoroughly

:10:03. > :10:08.exhausted, how long has this game been? Must be ten minutes. Six

:10:09. > :10:21.deuce, break point said. Ten minutes and over, just to begin with. She

:10:22. > :10:22.has to make Pliskova comfortable, that she is so easily in the

:10:23. > :10:39.Rybarikova service games. Evidence of the matches she has

:10:40. > :10:47.played. Reading the play. This is super stuff, isn't it? It'll please

:10:48. > :10:54.her coach. Tremendous movement and anticipation. It was the right knee

:10:55. > :11:01.that was surgically repaired last year along with the right wrist. For

:11:02. > :11:13.seven months at the end of 2016, first month of year as well.

:11:14. > :11:25.And it goes on! It's becoming absolutely vital, particularly for

:11:26. > :11:26.the server, this first game. Absolutely vital that Rybarikova

:11:27. > :12:16.wins it for her chances that's fine, anything up

:12:17. > :12:21.there is good for Rybarikova. His coach has seen a lot of matches. In

:12:22. > :12:26.Surbiton, just down the a three from here, just ten or 15 minutes away,

:12:27. > :12:31.if the traffic is OK at the right time of day. Ilkley must be four or

:12:32. > :12:42.five hours away, beautiful part of the world, Ilkley up in Yorkshire.

:12:43. > :12:46.Eastbourne as well. And that absolutely wonderful, that is an

:12:47. > :12:54.excellent first game to demonstrate what we could be in for here. Match

:12:55. > :12:58.two on Centre Court. Nottingham, of course, the other event people could

:12:59. > :13:03.have enjoyed. So much tennis leading up to this point. Centre Court for

:13:04. > :13:06.Rybarikova, nothing that she could possibly have imagined when she came

:13:07. > :13:09.back in February, so great to see her in this arena. There was really

:13:10. > :13:30.nothing to lose in this match. Just needs to keep her hand drive.

:13:31. > :13:37.There was an awful lot of work in that second game, had to serve 20

:13:38. > :13:57.points. That is a career, that is a training session.

:13:58. > :14:04.Rybarikova uses the whole court, I love watching someone always

:14:05. > :14:12.thinking out there, different spins, different different paces. --

:14:13. > :14:37.different lengths, different paces. A real contrast in styles. Pliskova

:14:38. > :14:41.likes to hit very linear, through the court, but what she is added to

:14:42. > :14:44.her game in the last 18 months, a nifty backhand slice that can get

:14:45. > :15:20.her out of a bit of trouble on the backhand on the run.

:15:21. > :16:10.Beautiful on the move. Great racket head speed from Rybarikova.

:16:11. > :16:18.Second match on Centre Court. It's 4pm. The height of the temperature

:16:19. > :16:23.expected today. No sign of the thunderstorms we had. This court has

:16:24. > :16:27.to be prepared for 13 days of play for the Championships. Grant canton

:16:28. > :16:39.is in charge of this. The surface temperature was taken between the

:16:40. > :16:42.first match, Edmund and Monfils. It was 43 and a half degrees Celsius,

:16:43. > :16:47.which is not really good progress. Without it taking a lot of water, it

:16:48. > :16:51.would die within two or three days. And will wilt through the course of

:16:52. > :16:56.today. The effect of it is to make this a very quick court, very high

:16:57. > :17:00.bouncing. But the graph itself tonight will get an absolute soaking

:17:01. > :17:04.and tomorrow morning the cover is going to come over, the roof will go

:17:05. > :17:08.over the top and they will have the air conditioning on and try to save

:17:09. > :17:12.the grass. So it'll play slightly different each day according to how

:17:13. > :17:19.Grant treats his baby. Believe me, this is his baby, it's just a

:17:20. > :17:27.beautiful, beautiful arena. Grass temperature 43.6 Celsius. The

:17:28. > :17:35.hottest summer since 1976. 76, Tracey, that's right! High bouncing

:17:36. > :17:46.grass, and the faster grass, the faster surface, will please Karolina

:17:47. > :17:49.Pliskova. Six foot one for thing. The crowd coming back in here onto

:17:50. > :17:54.Centre Court after the first match, taking refreshments. A big buzz in

:17:55. > :17:58.the arena as people head back in. Federer after this. It is a

:17:59. > :18:09.wonderful day here at the Championships. The crowd is being

:18:10. > :19:41.called to order. You wouldn't exactly call them rowdy.

:19:42. > :19:52.Perfect grass court shot. Heavy slice backhand approach. It stays so

:19:53. > :19:54.low. Then moving forward. So tough to hit an accurate passing shot of

:19:55. > :20:42.that. How much easier was that service

:20:43. > :20:46.game? Exactly what she needed after the first contest that took over ten

:20:47. > :20:51.minutes. Lovely hands, great control of the racket face. This is why I'm

:20:52. > :20:56.so glad this match was put on Centre Court, it is really a testing match

:20:57. > :21:00.for the woman who will serve now, Karolina Pliskova. 24 minutes played

:21:01. > :21:03.and 2-2, this is certainly not going to be a one-sided contest. Looking

:21:04. > :21:35.at these early stages. I think Rybarikova's forehand could

:21:36. > :21:41.be smoother, as she goes to hit it she yanks up and muscle is it a bit.

:21:42. > :22:02.-- muscles. Phil Brooke, the chairman. No rest

:22:03. > :22:05.for the chairman, straight back out to watch the tennis. Just a little

:22:06. > :22:16.bit of space between him and Jill, his wife. I'm sure their guests will

:22:17. > :22:21.be back out. To watch the tennis in a few minutes time. This is one of

:22:22. > :22:25.those tournaments where you don't miss whole swathes of matches, like

:22:26. > :22:29.at the French Open, and I guess some of the other ones, the Tribune box

:22:30. > :22:42.at the French was so empty for so much of the time this year.

:22:43. > :22:49.Not many miscues this day from Pliskova, that is where her game has

:22:50. > :22:57.shored up as well. The game is so much more contained. Consistent,

:22:58. > :22:58.more accurate. She says the biggest improvement is more experience her

:22:59. > :23:23.movement. Wonderful ball striking. It's what

:23:24. > :23:26.we've seen all year. In fact for a couple of years from Karolina

:23:27. > :23:31.Pliskova. There is a lot more to come from this second-round match.

:23:32. > :23:35.STUDIO: She's in front but we always thought this would be a difficult

:23:36. > :23:39.match for her because Rybarikova has certainly committed herself to the

:23:40. > :23:43.grass court having won at Surbiton and Ilkley. So she's very used to

:23:44. > :23:48.this surface by now. We'll be back on Centre Court in just a moment. A

:23:49. > :23:54.lot to update you on. And upset another seed is out, Juan Martin Del

:23:55. > :23:59.Potro has lost to Ernests Gulbis, who reinvented his game under the

:24:00. > :24:06.watchful eye of his new coach. Another seed is out and Gulbis faces

:24:07. > :24:17.Novak Djokovic in the next round, who won in straight sets as well.

:24:18. > :24:22.Over on Court Number One another seed is in trouble, the eighth seed.

:24:23. > :24:32.No great surprise the Dominic Thiem, because jewels seem on -- Gilles

:24:33. > :24:35.Simon has taken the first set 7-5. He's in some trouble, though he has

:24:36. > :24:40.a break point in the second set. That is the featured match on

:24:41. > :24:44.button. On Court Two Radwanska is a break of serve in front in this

:24:45. > :24:50.marathon battle against Christina McHale. That is on BBC Two. That is

:24:51. > :24:54.what's happening elsewhere. Back we go.

:24:55. > :24:58.COMMENTATOR: Day four of the championship and a second-round

:24:59. > :25:06.match on Centre Court, the second of the day. Roger Federer is coming up

:25:07. > :25:12.later on. We've had no thunderstorms and perhaps not expecting any at

:25:13. > :25:36.this point. It's very, very hot. No breaks here, too- three.

:25:37. > :25:42.Rybarikova seems to be looking for opportunities to move forward. Very

:25:43. > :26:15.comfortable in the forecourt. I'm so enjoying this tennis, this is

:26:16. > :26:20.leading up to what we thought it could be. -- this is living up. The

:26:21. > :26:24.art of manoeuvring a ball around a court, not just teeing off on it.

:26:25. > :26:27.The art of controlling your opponent by controlling the ball, it's all in

:26:28. > :27:20.this match. The whole court. Pliskova made a lot of doubles last

:27:21. > :27:26.year as well. At the finals in Singapore, I think that also added a

:27:27. > :27:28.secondary shot, she feels more comfortable with half volleys, with

:27:29. > :28:08.the overheads around the net. She actually missed one! Bridge

:28:09. > :28:15.defence. Did you actually see Rybarikova sliding on the forehand

:28:16. > :28:19.side? This was really great work. On the 15th shop, oddly enough,

:28:20. > :28:25.Pliskova missed one. She never appears to be stressed or hurried on

:28:26. > :28:28.that forehand. Such is her respect for the opponent, I think. She might

:28:29. > :28:54.not be going for the line too much. Very good, interesting match.

:28:55. > :29:04.Rybarikova, who's beaten Angelique Kerber in the past, who's beaten

:29:05. > :29:13.Marion Bartoli and Simona Halep... She's not used to sharing the court

:29:14. > :29:17.and beating the biggest names. After those two surgeries Tracy Austin was

:29:18. > :29:38.telling you about, this is her on the comeback trail.

:29:39. > :29:44.At Indian Wells she got all the way to the quarterfinals, that's when

:29:45. > :29:47.she knew she had to do something about the pain in her wrist, she was

:29:48. > :29:51.playing all year at tremendous pace every time she hit the two handed

:29:52. > :30:49.backhand. It was the left wrist. The best serve in the women's game

:30:50. > :30:53.in the absence of Serena Williams, who is off and expecting her first

:30:54. > :30:57.child. This delivery very rarely breaks down. The most aces for the

:30:58. > :31:16.third year in a row. It might be a little skewed, because

:31:17. > :31:20.Serena doesn't play as much. Last year, Serena only played eight

:31:21. > :31:26.tournaments. Let's just say that Pliskova's server is a real weapon,

:31:27. > :31:26.as well as pace, she can hit to the different positions, different

:31:27. > :32:07.spins. She can use the slider well. UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:32:08. > :32:11.Interesting that Pliskova has never been beyond round two at Wimbledon.

:32:12. > :32:16.In six appearances. She is one of eight Czech players in the draw, you

:32:17. > :32:19.would have expected her to have had more success than she has had but

:32:20. > :32:25.some people just come to it at a slightly different time. She is only

:32:26. > :32:29.25 years of age and perhaps in the women's game, just as in the men's's

:32:30. > :32:33.you don't have to be, as you work, 16 years old when you win your first

:32:34. > :32:41.major championship. Is that what you wear when you won the US Open? When

:32:42. > :32:46.you look back, visit crazy? My youngest child now 16 years old! It

:32:47. > :32:51.seems like a different time to deal with all of the pressures and

:32:52. > :32:57.expectations. But I think it was a benefit, because I was so young, I

:32:58. > :33:01.was naive, I didn't know what was on the line. Just playing the ball.

:33:02. > :33:06.Play the ball and execute the game plan. But then the light changes

:33:07. > :33:12.that came after it for a young woman of 16, tough to handle? The injuries

:33:13. > :33:16.came, I was able to win the US Open again at 18. You are supposed to go

:33:17. > :33:22.to college first and then win majors, not the other way around. It

:33:23. > :33:25.is amazing. Pliskova has certainly figured it out, in the last 18

:33:26. > :33:35.months, her career has completely turned around. Better fitness,

:33:36. > :33:38.better thinker on court. Mum and dad Federer in the Royal box, taking

:33:39. > :33:47.their place after a little break from the first match. Gael Monfils

:33:48. > :34:05.against Kyle Edmund. Roger is in action.

:34:06. > :34:11.No. The new tennis ball flying a little bit and in these sorts of

:34:12. > :34:18.conditions, hot and humid, the ball will fly even more, more difficult

:34:19. > :34:23.to control. I wouldn't be surprised if they tighten up their string

:34:24. > :34:58.tension in these hot conditions. Looking to make a few tweaks.

:34:59. > :35:12.Thank you very much. Wow. Dismisses this 86 mph second serve right in

:35:13. > :35:44.the wheelhouse. Such a clean ball striker, Pliskova. Beautiful pop.

:35:45. > :35:52.Rybarikova, just 49% of her first serves in. She needs to get those

:35:53. > :36:02.up. Pliskova getting a real read on the second serves.

:36:03. > :36:11.That is good fortune indeed. Apologises, but takes the break

:36:12. > :36:16.point. 40-30, an opportunity here. Plenty of opportunities already, of

:36:17. > :36:17.course, in that first game, the marathon that Rybarikova served. She

:36:18. > :36:49.saved four break points. Hit to a nice length, as well, and

:36:50. > :36:58.it is the first break of serve, it has taken a while. The third seed,

:36:59. > :37:49.the world number one player this year, takes the first set.

:37:50. > :38:00.She is a magnificent player. Mind you, so can Rybarikova be, but what

:38:01. > :38:04.a succession of hits. This rhythm, it is metronomic and it is right out

:38:05. > :38:18.of the middle. Of course, the number one Czech

:38:19. > :38:20.player for so long, Petra Kvitova, and she may be again, but Pliskova

:38:21. > :39:00.very much the story. Of the coach who was with Petra

:39:01. > :39:08.Kvitova and the journey that got there, now with Pliskova. Seems nice

:39:09. > :39:14.and chirpy at the moment. He said he wasn't interested in coaching again

:39:15. > :39:18.when he split with Petra and in December, when Pliskova split with

:39:19. > :39:20.her former coach, she called him immediately and he said it was too

:39:21. > :39:40.good an opportunity to pass up. That is away on the back and side,

:39:41. > :39:46.as we take a good look at Karolina Pliskova in this third-round match,

:39:47. > :39:49.the potential number one in this tournament. A lot of statistical

:39:50. > :39:53.hoops to jump through to get her to the top spot in the world rankings.

:39:54. > :39:57.In fact, I don't think she has to win the event of the world number

:39:58. > :40:01.one but we will deal with that as we get there in the second week. Here

:40:02. > :40:05.is a question for you, if she was to become world number one, women's

:40:06. > :40:14.tennis would certainly like to see her win a major championship the

:40:15. > :40:15.forehand. It would seem to be the right thing. When Caroline

:40:16. > :40:18.Wozniacki, through consistency and wonderful play, got to world number

:40:19. > :40:23.one, when Janka vitch do the same thing, the ranking system was

:40:24. > :40:25.accused of being faulty because they hadn't won major championships. Can

:40:26. > :40:36.you be world number one without being a major question -- without

:40:37. > :40:41.winning a major? They tried to skew it. If you win a major now, you get

:40:42. > :40:46.2,000 ranking points, so they tried to fix that but of course, we have

:40:47. > :40:50.Serena Williams out on maternity leave and so many extenuating

:40:51. > :40:54.circumstances and you have Angelique Kerber, who is number one in the

:40:55. > :41:00.world this year, winning a tournament and she is in off. That

:41:01. > :41:03.is why it is so interesting that we are talking about Karolina Pliskova

:41:04. > :41:08.as the possible tournament favourite and yet she has never been past the

:41:09. > :41:12.second round at Wimbledon. I can't remember Wimbledon, in the 40 years

:41:13. > :41:19.I have been coming, where the woman's game is this wide open. That

:41:20. > :41:28.is why we had the number 47 in the world win at the French Open, her

:41:29. > :41:32.first title ever on tour. Victoria Azarenka is back and playing rather

:41:33. > :41:34.well at the moment. That is a box office third-round match up with

:41:35. > :41:39.Heather Watson that we are looking forward to. Pliskova, I must say,

:41:40. > :41:46.has been the most consistent all year. She has won three titles,

:41:47. > :41:50.Svitolina has won four, but they haven't been quite as big. She got

:41:51. > :41:55.to the quarterfinals at the Australian, the semifinals at the

:41:56. > :42:04.French, on her worst surface, on clay. She wouldn't like that surface

:42:05. > :42:10.because her power get diffused. Magdalena Rybarikova has just hopped

:42:11. > :42:15.out and has hopped back in. Always great to see Rod Laver. Now, this

:42:16. > :42:22.man, as an amateur first, then as a professional, won all four Grand

:42:23. > :42:26.Slam championships, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the

:42:27. > :42:29.US in the same year. He did it twice, once as an amateur and once

:42:30. > :42:33.as a professional and if you have never seen him play, I urge you,

:42:34. > :42:37.whichever search engine you use, just stick in Rod Laver and it is

:42:38. > :42:41.wonderful to watch and there is some lovely footage on their of him

:42:42. > :42:49.playing byorn Borg. They were never at their height together but

:42:50. > :42:52.watching them play and another few legends, there is footage, but

:42:53. > :42:56.people will talk about him as one of the greatest or the greatest for

:42:57. > :43:01.very good reason, he was a magnificent ball striker and his

:43:02. > :43:05.backhand was beautiful. And he graced this court so many times, he

:43:06. > :43:14.was the man. He was the Rafa, the Roger, the Novak and and a of his

:43:15. > :43:18.day. And Ken Rosewall. They played 250 times. Rocket Rod Laver was able

:43:19. > :43:23.to minute lead the racket, even though it was a heavy wooden racket,

:43:24. > :43:27.he had some top-spin on his forehand, beautiful slice, great

:43:28. > :43:35.Court coverage. And while we are talking Australian players, 30 years

:43:36. > :43:43.ago, Pete Doolin beat Boris Becker, who was defending champion, on the

:43:44. > :43:49.old number one court, who got to know very well college tennis and as

:43:50. > :43:54.a professional and after the match, Boris said it wasn't a war, it was

:43:55. > :43:57.just a tennis match. Pete Doohan has had his health issues recently and

:43:58. > :44:02.he may be listening in in Australia, certainly his friends will be, but

:44:03. > :44:06.his health hasn't been great and in the tennis family, we send our love

:44:07. > :44:15.from Wimbledon down to Doohan in Australia.

:44:16. > :44:19.So, settling in for set number two of match number two on day four of

:44:20. > :44:56.Wimbledon. You see very little emotion from

:44:57. > :45:57.Pliskova, you never really know what is going on in her mind.

:45:58. > :46:34.Your first coach and the coach of many great champions, would

:46:35. > :46:46.certainly appreciate the timing of this woman Pliskova. She has the

:46:47. > :46:53.sort of swings of a pendulum. He would have approved. Absolutely,

:46:54. > :47:09.just very clean strokes. Repeatable. Great balance, good

:47:10. > :47:22.spacing. Spacing. It is critical, not too far away, not too closely.

:47:23. > :47:23.Good footwork needed to make that adjustment, so you can hit it

:47:24. > :47:54.cleanly. So Ribeiro Kerber, who brings this

:47:55. > :48:02.great form on grass into this event -- Rybarikova. She won in Surbiton,

:48:03. > :48:13.in Ilkley and she also bit Madison Brengle, who beat covet -- Petra

:48:14. > :48:21.Kvitova. She brings great form onto this against Pliskova, who is by two

:48:22. > :48:29.minutes the younger of twins, her sister is also a fine player inside

:48:30. > :48:35.the top 40. I believe they have tattoos, but they are not matching.

:48:36. > :48:43.She won't explain these once, she just had it done, I think. Just like

:48:44. > :48:59.them. Just liked them, simple. I think their father has one as well.

:49:00. > :49:11.I'd like to know who the coach was that taught them their serves. That

:49:12. > :49:16.is someone that should be a coach. I want to know who did the inking.

:49:17. > :49:44.Up-and-coming juniors, it is very simple.

:49:45. > :49:51.I think that is what you want in technique, simple, so they don't

:49:52. > :49:58.break down and if there are any extra hitches, that will cause a

:49:59. > :50:03.problem, particularly in pressure situations, a tendency to get

:50:04. > :50:24.nervous. A very repeatable swing path.

:50:25. > :50:29.First double fault, right after you were talking about how marvellous

:50:30. > :51:29.the action is. You are absolutely right, it is.

:51:30. > :52:00.A little extra time before that serve.

:52:01. > :52:07.Pliskova was asked about the possibility of becoming number one

:52:08. > :52:11.and she won't talk about it, which I think is so smart. There is a long

:52:12. > :52:15.way to go, just focusing on one match at a time. Said she doesn't

:52:16. > :52:21.want to talk about her tatties, doesn't want to talk about her world

:52:22. > :52:26.11 possibilities. -- her tattooeds. Just gets on with the job, drama

:52:27. > :52:39.free and plays big matches so well. It is so refreshing.

:52:40. > :52:43.There are so many women that have these great results and then they

:52:44. > :52:52.have a hard time repeating them, living up to those expectations.

:52:53. > :52:54.Pliskova hasn't changed and she got the US Open final and seems to be

:52:55. > :53:56.handling it well. Still struggling with her first

:53:57. > :54:02.service percentage, down to 42%. Look at this, though, wrong sport.

:54:03. > :54:04.Just an overall good athlete. Trying to think of the finest Slovakian

:54:05. > :54:38.footballer. Marek Hamsik of Napoli, I am told,

:54:39. > :54:40.is the finest footballer from Slovakia. I'm not sure about the

:54:41. > :55:01.source of that. Pliskova just looking so comfortable

:55:02. > :55:11.out here on Centre Court, playing on this surface. At Eastbourne last

:55:12. > :55:29.week as well. The elite level is still pretty new to her.

:55:30. > :55:38.Very well controlled. Rybarikova down the line because she was pushed

:55:39. > :55:42.on that backhand, she had to maintain racket head control and

:55:43. > :55:48.this is why you train physically, just to maintain your base and come

:55:49. > :55:54.through the ball. Pliskova ran around that second serve, really had

:55:55. > :55:59.to be a winner and unreturnable. The job I Rybarikova. -- good job by

:56:00. > :56:33.Rybarikova. It is fun to see a little variety.

:56:34. > :56:36.The last time I can remember serve-volley on a consistent basis,

:56:37. > :56:52.Mauresmo and Justine Henin in the final.

:56:53. > :56:58.Honestly, this wonderful way she just rolls the ball around as if it

:56:59. > :57:02.is easy to put pace on a ball which is kicking, because this second

:57:03. > :57:06.serve had some work on it. Bit short, but she had is well within

:57:07. > :57:10.the lines as well, so the whole effect is just to contain the

:57:11. > :57:38.opposition the whole time. Plays the right shot.

:57:39. > :58:00.SUE BARKER: We will be right back on Centre Court when play resumes but

:58:01. > :58:03.we will just show you what is happening elsewhere and this is

:58:04. > :58:08.Radwanska, who has come back, saving two match points against Christina

:58:09. > :58:14.McHale in the second set to come through and when it 6-3 in the final

:58:15. > :58:19.set. That is what she is famous for, such a tough competitor. Not the

:58:20. > :58:21.best of years but maybe this is the start of something special. The

:58:22. > :58:29.former finalist is through in three sets. On court at the moment,

:58:30. > :58:35.Dominic Thiem is just preparing himself to come out and the serve

:58:36. > :58:37.for the second set, having lost the first two Gilles Simon. That match

:58:38. > :58:49.is currently over on BBC Two. Over on Court three, Muguruza, the

:58:50. > :58:55.French Open champion last year, former finalist here, is 4-1 up in

:58:56. > :58:56.her match against Wickmayer of Belgium. That matches on the red

:58:57. > :59:09.button if you want to watch it. Wickmayer, coached by Kim Clijsters.

:59:10. > :59:13.And over on Court number 12, Tomas Berdych. Seven years ago it was when

:59:14. > :59:18.he was in the final. He is up against the American Ryan Harrison

:59:19. > :59:22.and it is going the Czech's way. That match is on the BBC sport

:59:23. > :59:24.website. We will keep you up-to-date with how they progress, but let's go

:59:25. > :59:33.back to Centre Court right now. ANDREW CASTLE: Are nice and full

:59:34. > :59:36.crowd here, everybody after the first match disappearing, perhaps

:59:37. > :59:39.having a little look around, taking a break and having a drink and back

:59:40. > :00:02.in and intently watching this one now.

:00:03. > :00:09.TRACY AUSTIN: That last shot has improved because she has played more

:00:10. > :00:10.doubles, Pliskova. She made it look so easy, swinging so freely with her

:00:11. > :01:39.arms. That is a line all. She had to face

:01:40. > :01:44.one of her own at the other end. She just faced it so well, she kept the

:01:45. > :01:48.face parallel and just lifted it back up, then turned the rally round

:01:49. > :01:53.and hit the baseline herself. And it stopped. That subtle, but it demands

:01:54. > :02:23.great hands. It goes without saying that the

:02:24. > :02:27.players are treated beautifully at this Championships. There is an area

:02:28. > :02:31.that only the players can go into. Not telling you any state secrets

:02:32. > :02:36.when I say they have a hairdresser in there, Novak Djokovic is often

:02:37. > :02:43.seen in there. They have a nail bar, may land hairdresser. I went and had

:02:44. > :02:48.a little clip myself. It's really amazing what is provided by this

:02:49. > :02:54.tournament now. It is. Several Wooding on the player 's desk does a

:02:55. > :02:56.fantastic job. There was a kid 's outing to an animal farm today.

:02:57. > :03:17.Players children. How about the food? The food is

:03:18. > :03:28.excellent, it really is! Gluten-free for those who need that. That

:03:29. > :03:36.completely died. Pliskova was there, then all of a sudden... It's amazing

:03:37. > :03:39.there's just been one break this entire match. That eighth game

:03:40. > :03:54.Pliskova was able to break through. Rybarikova, 87 in the world. She's

:03:55. > :04:59.held her own very well. Tremendous patience from Pliskova to

:05:00. > :05:03.build point. Second or third shot of the rally she could have come in and

:05:04. > :05:09.taken the ball out of the air. Think how ominous it would be if she

:05:10. > :05:14.started doing that more often. More trouble for Rybarikova. Break point

:05:15. > :05:31.down after a long rally. Still puffing.

:05:32. > :05:47.That is away. That is pressure telling. Pliskova has broken

:05:48. > :05:51.through. STUDIO: And we'll be right back on Centre Court in a moment,

:05:52. > :05:59.couple of match points to bring you. Another seed has gone, the 12th seed

:06:00. > :06:04.of France has lost 6-4 in the third and final set. The American had

:06:05. > :06:08.never beaten her opponent until today, what a tournament to do it

:06:09. > :06:19.in. There were concerns about the court in the opening few games, both

:06:20. > :06:24.players slipping. They were told by the umpire to carry on. I wouldn't

:06:25. > :06:33.dare say it is a bit risky out there. But Alison Rybarikova has

:06:34. > :06:40.gone through! Upset in yet another seed at this tournament. Mannarino

:06:41. > :06:47.ever France has come through in his match against Sugita of Japan.

:06:48. > :06:51.Controversy here because he was docked a point earlier for pushing

:06:52. > :06:56.past a ball boy at the change of ends. He argued his case but the

:06:57. > :07:00.umpire said, no. He was docked a point for that incident. Anyway,

:07:01. > :07:04.he's still gone through and will face Gael Monfils in the next round.

:07:05. > :07:18.That is the story is elsewhere. On this boiling hot Centre Court

:07:19. > :07:24.where the grass was measured by the Centre Court boss, the supervisor

:07:25. > :07:45.for this court, at 43 Celsius. We carry on a set and a break.

:07:46. > :07:53.The effect on the grass of these temperatures is to make it wilt.

:07:54. > :07:57.Left to its own devices and these temperatures over two or three days,

:07:58. > :08:03.the grass can die. Bearing in mind there are 13 days of play out of 14,

:08:04. > :08:11.Grant is going to soak this court tonight. Some American golf

:08:12. > :08:14.tournament when it gets too hot and the Greens get baked and the grass

:08:15. > :08:19.starts dying, they can water it, but they can't water a grass court

:08:20. > :08:20.because it's going to make it too slippery for the players in the next

:08:21. > :09:15.match. Little bit of her own medicine, the

:09:16. > :09:17.backhand slice stays low and just stops. Rybarikova needed one more

:09:18. > :09:58.step. She's played a lot of matches and

:09:59. > :10:02.been in a lot of close situations in Ilkley and in Surbiton. In

:10:03. > :10:07.Nottingham as well. All those matches where she is having to fight

:10:08. > :10:09.so hard here. Taking that opportunity to get to break point.

:10:10. > :10:36.First time today. And that's away. She has broken

:10:37. > :10:43.back. And that is courageous stuff. Back on serve. All this talk of

:10:44. > :10:48.stressed grass courts needing water, which they are going to get tonight

:10:49. > :10:52.and tomorrow morning, the Canoe Lake people at Southsea have treated me,

:10:53. > :10:55.any mention the Southsea Trophy played last week? We had women

:10:56. > :11:08.ranked in the top 70 playing in a refurbished public car park. OK,

:11:09. > :11:12.I've done that. Played down at Southsea many times, in fact, the

:11:13. > :11:15.Maureen Connolly cup, I don't know if you are involved in that, it was

:11:16. > :11:22.played last week under the under 18 's. I think it under 20 ones.

:11:23. > :11:31.America won. Emily Appleton beat the world number two and three. That was

:11:32. > :11:33.all down in Southsea. At least when I was involved, as a player and a

:11:34. > :11:57.coach one time as well. Rybarikova hanging around

:11:58. > :12:02.beautifully. She lost that first set, just one break. So close here.

:12:03. > :12:37.Such small margins on grass. Matches can turn very quickly.

:12:38. > :12:43.Beautifully done by Rybarikova. Gets up to this ball inside the baseline

:12:44. > :13:08.and hits it on the rise. Beautiful angle.

:13:09. > :13:24.She's done very well to win two games in a row, it could easily have

:13:25. > :13:30.gone away. When you've played as many matches as she has done, you

:13:31. > :13:34.are match tough and there's no substitute for it. Absolutely,

:13:35. > :13:37.believe in yourself, that you have problem solved in the past different

:13:38. > :13:42.situations, you've been down in matches, you didn't feel as

:13:43. > :13:49.comfortable as you would have liked on certain strokes. Just kept

:13:50. > :13:53.plugging away. And that is where there's so much more instinct in

:13:54. > :13:57.certain situations, because you have no doubt about what shots to play at

:13:58. > :14:01.certain times. If you bring a play forward, they come back from injury,

:14:02. > :14:04.just play matches. If you want to learn about your game to strength,

:14:05. > :14:09.your weakness, how to get the job done, you have to play. Practice.

:14:10. > :14:15.Practice is one thing, but playing is irreplaceable. There are players

:14:16. > :14:23.like even Heather Watson, they play some challengers, start to win

:14:24. > :14:29.groups of matches, four, five, six, it's so helpful for the confidence.

:14:30. > :14:45.There is only one winner every week. It's a lot of losers.

:14:46. > :14:50.No thunderstorms today, as predicted. Roger Federer coming up

:14:51. > :14:58.on this Centre Court, as we enjoyed match to come back on serve, second

:14:59. > :15:05.set. Ace number five to match her opponent. Karolina Pliskova. Number

:15:06. > :15:10.three in the world. Number one this year. No one has had a better year

:15:11. > :15:31.than her points wise. Just exquisite from Rybarikova. I

:15:32. > :15:35.recognised the situation she was in, couldn't hit the ball with a lot of

:15:36. > :15:38.pace, so dumps its low and Pliskova makes her move. Finishes with the

:15:39. > :16:04.volley. Grass court execution. Rybarikova very far back for this

:16:05. > :16:42.return. Gave herself more time. Really tough for Rybarikova to know

:16:43. > :16:44.which serve to defend, look at the direction of service and it's just

:16:45. > :17:15.about even. Up the T and out wide. Some respite from the bright

:17:16. > :17:22.sunshine, particularly for those in the East stand. As we stretch past

:17:23. > :17:43.five o'clock this afternoon. Louise saying it's too late because

:17:44. > :17:45.she feels like Rybarikova got the signal from the support camp as to

:17:46. > :18:12.whether to challenge or not. Really? I like that. I'm not sure umpires

:18:13. > :18:13.are firm enough with that. It should be an immediate challenge without

:18:14. > :18:57.help. The first meeting between these two

:18:58. > :19:03.surprisingly enough. The 28-year-old serve Rybarikova and the 25-year-old

:19:04. > :19:28.Karolina Pliskova. -- 28-year-old Serb.

:19:29. > :19:33.Also a little surprising because it's Rybarikova's tenth main draw

:19:34. > :19:38.appearance here at Wimbledon, she's only got past the first round once

:19:39. > :19:42.here, back in 2015. She made it to the third round. An odd lack of

:19:43. > :20:13.return for somebody who looks very well-suited to the grass.

:20:14. > :20:32.She's a wonderful player, Rybarikova, which is why we're very

:20:33. > :20:36.pleased to see her on this stage against one of the stars of the

:20:37. > :20:43.tournament. A great big towel full of ice, by the way, to keep the body

:20:44. > :20:48.temperature down. She comes into this match with very little to lose,

:20:49. > :20:52.really. Surgery on her left wrist and right knee. Sound advice coming

:20:53. > :20:58.from the screen. The busiest part of Wimbledon today are the bottle

:20:59. > :21:03.filling stations, the queues are snaking around as people fill up

:21:04. > :21:09.with free water. Free water! I object to paying for water anyway,

:21:10. > :21:12.frankly, Tracy. Your Californian so you probably don't. You're all

:21:13. > :21:19.healthy. I like the stuff that comes out of the tap, London water is

:21:20. > :21:24.brilliant. I think it's just fine. You don't bother, you will drink out

:21:25. > :21:30.of a tap? Absolutely, no problem with it whatsoever. With a drought

:21:31. > :21:33.in California we had big problems with our water situation. There will

:21:34. > :21:37.be no problem here tonight, this court will be getting an absolute

:21:38. > :21:40.soaking this evening and tomorrow morning. They'll put the cover back

:21:41. > :21:45.on the air conditioning back on, and give the grass a chance. It is a

:21:46. > :21:50.living tennis court, which is why they are so silly and so expensive

:21:51. > :22:04.to look after, but they're just so beautiful to play on.

:22:05. > :22:14.So accurate with the serve, within six inches off the lines. Again, if

:22:15. > :22:18.you have a tendency to hit up the T all the time, you probably can sit

:22:19. > :22:33.on that. Pliskova can hit all the corners.

:22:34. > :23:17.Rybarikova has done a lot of roadwork today.

:23:18. > :23:23.It's a slicing ball, it's deep, it's going away on the forehand side.

:23:24. > :23:28.Rybarikova was right to come in. Look at this, no great drama there.

:23:29. > :23:32.It's a simple stroke. That is beautiful. Balance all the way

:23:33. > :23:34.through. If you drew a picture, or a line where the head was, it would

:23:35. > :23:50.stay the same. The head level would not drop, she

:23:51. > :23:51.doesn't dip into her ground strokes, she doesn't pull out of ground

:23:52. > :24:24.strokes. How about the way she keeps her head

:24:25. > :24:29.up on her serve? Really extends up. Never worked with her as a young

:24:30. > :24:33.junior. -- whoever worked with her as a young junior should be

:24:34. > :24:35.applauded, it's so important to get technique right from the beginning.

:24:36. > :26:43.Rather than trying to fix things. After an hour and a half just under

:26:44. > :26:46.an Centre Court, the least Rybarikova is going to get out of

:26:47. > :26:52.this is a tie-break, which is no more than she deserves because she

:26:53. > :26:56.was a set and a break down and bravely broke back. I'm desperately

:26:57. > :27:01.trying to find out who Pliskova's first coach was and I cannot find

:27:02. > :27:03.out who it is, otherwise I would, they would tell you, I would

:27:04. > :27:09.certainly name them and give them credit. The point you made about

:27:10. > :27:11.learning technique young and playing matches, learning technique

:27:12. > :27:17.particularly underserved, such a technical aspect, it is vital. At

:27:18. > :27:22.what age is it too late? Probably 12 or 13. If you put the wrong

:27:23. > :27:29.technique in, it is really difficult to unwind. It is, there are so many

:27:30. > :27:34.moving parts to the serve. I think the simplicity of Pliskova's strokes

:27:35. > :27:45.is why they are so, as I said before, repeatable. They don't break

:27:46. > :27:50.down. Under pressure. On the golf tour, they will often say, like Jim

:27:51. > :27:54.Furyk, you would never choose to did somebody that but he's been

:27:55. > :27:59.repeating it for some 25 years and getting great success. It is that

:28:00. > :28:01.monotony to it, metronomic. If you can rely on it under pressure, that

:28:02. > :28:21.is everything. Trouble here. Second double fault of

:28:22. > :29:02.the match for Pliskova. When you get a second serve and the

:29:03. > :29:06.first isn't whizzing past you, to get into the point you have to get

:29:07. > :29:19.back in play, at this stage in particular.

:29:20. > :29:26.Because that is right around the corner. You have no play to get in

:29:27. > :29:54.the point. Ropes, double fault and a missed

:29:55. > :29:56.volley. Brings the score to 30-30. Rybarikova is a clean hit or smart

:29:57. > :30:22.play away from having set point. No, no, no. Feet stopped moving. It

:30:23. > :30:25.is nerves. And credit to Rybarikova, who was absolutely steaming across

:30:26. > :30:32.to that side of sending the message, if you don't hit it well, I am after

:30:33. > :30:36.you, I will get it. So Rybarikova, puts that back and out of shot, she

:30:37. > :30:38.is running quickly. There she is and I think it had an affect on the

:30:39. > :30:58.stroke. It is just as important to be able

:30:59. > :31:09.to produce a big serve when it is important.

:31:10. > :31:13.She is at it again with these football skills. She doesn't seem

:31:14. > :31:27.too stressed. That is away. These are unforced

:31:28. > :31:31.errors are flowing now. It is a second set point and all of this

:31:32. > :31:37.from a set and a break down. We thought there could be a tough match

:31:38. > :31:40.in prospect for this form player, Pliskova, and certainly it is

:31:41. > :31:48.turning out that way. Peter Hooper pleased with what he's seen.

:31:49. > :31:57.And that is a way as well and she has nicked the set, 7-5. Roger

:31:58. > :32:01.Federer and Dusan Lajovic who are playing next, they will have to

:32:02. > :32:05.wait. They will have been preparing themselves to play but we have a

:32:06. > :32:12.very interesting set ahead of us here. Didn't see that coming,

:32:13. > :32:15.particularly. It had the look of a three and four, a three under five,

:32:16. > :32:19.but Rybarikova has played a lot of matches and strangely enough, loss

:32:20. > :32:25.of composure from Pliskova. This is a test now. I agree with you. I

:32:26. > :32:29.thought it would be a tough to set win for Pliskova when she got up

:32:30. > :32:34.that break in the second set but you consider nerves starting to creep in

:32:35. > :32:45.in the 12th game, starting with a double fault, the second of the set.

:32:46. > :32:51.Getting quite a lot of success when she is coming into the net,

:32:52. > :32:56.particularly between academics behind that deep slice backhand

:32:57. > :33:00.which can uncover an opponent and she is comfortable at the net --

:33:01. > :33:08.particularly behind that deep slice backhand. Pliskova has certainly

:33:09. > :33:13.been moving her coast to coast, left to right. Rybarikova, I have got to

:33:14. > :33:18.say, 14 matches, she has won on grass in the last few weeks, helped

:33:19. > :33:22.her get through the finishing line in that second set. She never got

:33:23. > :33:26.negative when she got down that break. Stayed with the variety, the

:33:27. > :33:32.backhand slices, moving forward when she could, applying the pressure.

:33:33. > :33:37.Good to see the ball boys and ball girls wearing these caps with the

:33:38. > :33:41.side flaps today, just to keep some of the heat off. No direct sunlight

:33:42. > :33:45.now but each and every time this highly trained unit, they are much

:33:46. > :33:49.quicker than any of the senior players and some of the players in

:33:50. > :33:52.the main draw, so quick and fit, training for months, but they are

:33:53. > :33:58.all on show every day and being assessed all the time as to who gets

:33:59. > :34:03.to be on a big show court, later on in the big matches into the second

:34:04. > :34:11.week. All on show here, as everybody is on Centre Court. So off we go

:34:12. > :34:31.with the deciding set. Rybarikova serving first.

:34:32. > :34:40.Roger Federer will now have to wait another set. I suspected the women's

:34:41. > :34:44.locker room is on high alert right now, Pliskova been most people's

:34:45. > :34:52.favourite to take this title, playing the best coming in. A lot of

:34:53. > :34:55.interest in this third set. UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova is challenging

:34:56. > :35:06.the call on the right service line, the ball was called in. SLOW

:35:07. > :35:28.CLAPPING Yes, it was out.

:35:29. > :36:18.Well, you see the importance of that crosscourt forehand on the second

:36:19. > :36:22.point now, 0-30 down and perhaps odds-on to lose her served but she

:36:23. > :36:54.found her mark and now game points. Well, it's going very well for

:36:55. > :36:59.Rybarikova and you could have seen her play in all these places and

:37:00. > :37:02.thought, well, she is a nice player, good player, you could read about

:37:03. > :37:07.her when she was on her comeback but as she has said, you never would

:37:08. > :37:12.have thought, given this environment against the favourite for the

:37:13. > :37:17.tournament, she would be this good, but this is the depth in women's

:37:18. > :37:22.tennis, the depth in men's has always been talked about but as far

:37:23. > :37:25.as the women's goes now, I was at the qualifying in Roehampton and I

:37:26. > :37:27.couldn't believe the standard of the play and the conditioning of the

:37:28. > :37:56.athletes, the men and the women. As Rybarikova said, it has been a

:37:57. > :37:58.lot of ITFs to come back, lower-level tournaments. Joanna

:37:59. > :38:03.Konta is really the only top-level player she has played of late, lost

:38:04. > :38:08.to her in the semifinals at Nottingham. She knows it is going to

:38:09. > :38:09.be a step up but I think she has handled the situation beautifully

:38:10. > :38:33.today. This variety is starting to get into

:38:34. > :38:41.Pliskova's head. Rybarikova hits one hard, one heavy slice, one deep, one

:38:42. > :39:18.mid-court shot. Gets Pliskova out of rhythm.

:39:19. > :39:26.You don't see many of those shots in the first set and a half from

:39:27. > :39:32.Pliskova. G think that might be down to Rybarikova reading the Pliskova

:39:33. > :39:37.game and she is moving into areas where Pliskova feels comfortable

:39:38. > :39:51.hitting. Having an affect on her, maybe?

:39:52. > :39:57.If, every time you look up, your opponent is standing where you want

:39:58. > :40:02.to hit the ball is moving in that direction, it will put you off.

:40:03. > :40:28.Martina Hingis was always a master of that.

:40:29. > :40:33.That is not an easy shot. Made it look easy, but it is dipping very

:40:34. > :40:45.quickly. Back spin drop shot off a dropping

:40:46. > :40:47.ball beneath the height of the net, nicely done. You have to play those

:40:48. > :41:03.firmly otherwise they dribble into the turf.

:41:04. > :41:12.That is good. Classic grass court tennis. Nice approach on the

:41:13. > :41:59.baseline. Martina Navratilova written all over that one.

:42:00. > :42:40.Never settled, Pliskova, on that one. And I hope she is not injured

:42:41. > :42:44.or anything, because she was pulled out wide to the forehand twice and

:42:45. > :42:51.was never on balance and on the third one, when she went for the

:42:52. > :43:15.past, wildly inaccurate. -- for the pass.

:43:16. > :43:36.Rybarikova keeping Pliskova on the move. It is dangerous when she is

:43:37. > :43:37.not on balance, as everybody is, and Pliskova can find her target if she

:43:38. > :45:35.has time to set up. Late call.

:45:36. > :45:42.UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova is challenging the call on the neo- right hand

:45:43. > :45:55.side. The ball was called out. SLOW CLAPPING

:45:56. > :45:55.It is in. That was a late call, it might have affected Rybarikova.

:45:56. > :46:18.Unfortunate for Pliskova. Break point opportunities have come

:46:19. > :46:23.and gone for the heavy favourite. We are on serve here in the decider.

:46:24. > :46:27.SUE BARKER: Are really tense battle on Centre Court, we will be back

:46:28. > :46:33.there very soon but we are going to move away because there has been

:46:34. > :46:36.some very upsetting scenes out on Court 17 involving Bethanie

:46:37. > :46:41.Mattek-Sands of the United States. Lost the second set tie-break and

:46:42. > :46:47.this was the fourth point, suffering horrible fall and immediately

:46:48. > :46:52.clutching her knee and shouting "Help me". Her team do come on, as

:46:53. > :46:58.does assist a. The medical team were brought onto the court she was given

:46:59. > :47:03.oxygen. She has made her way back to the clubhouse but it is obviously a

:47:04. > :47:06.serious knee injury she has sustained. She is top seed in the

:47:07. > :47:10.doubles with Lucie Safarova, going for the Grand Slam doubles but very

:47:11. > :47:15.distressing scenes out on court. We will bring you more on that later

:47:16. > :47:21.when we hear exactly what the injury is. Very, very sad for Bethanie

:47:22. > :47:28.Mattek-Sands. Anyway, back we go to Centre Court.

:47:29. > :47:34.ANDREW CASTLE: And here on Centre Court, no breaks of serve in this

:47:35. > :47:37.final set yet. It has turned into quite a formidable contest and when

:47:38. > :47:43.the schedule came out, it didn't look like it had the makings because

:47:44. > :47:47.Rybarikova was on her way back from surgery on her left wrist and write

:47:48. > :47:52.me a year ago and it took longer to men and recover than originally

:47:53. > :47:56.thought. -- to mend. She said you wouldn't believe it that she would

:47:57. > :48:02.get in the top 100 this year. People thought she had retired, which she

:48:03. > :48:09.was quite offended about. She went and supported the Slovakian Fed Cup

:48:10. > :48:10.team and people were coming up to her saying, nice career, sorry you

:48:11. > :48:27.have retired, but she hadn't. TRACY AUSTIN: She was offended, it

:48:28. > :48:37.is amazing how quickly they forget about you. Nowadays, 15 minutes of

:48:38. > :48:42.fame, you are lucky. 31 in the world, inside the top 450, quite

:48:43. > :48:57.comeback. If that is a phenomenal pick-up from

:48:58. > :49:01.Pliskova, what timing. -- that is a phenomenal pick-up. The heavy slice

:49:02. > :49:05.to content with, it stay solo and on this surface, it doesn't always

:49:06. > :49:34.bounced perfectly. -- it stays so low. You are right, beautiful shot.

:49:35. > :49:41.At times, Rybarikova likes pace coming to her two-handed backhand,

:49:42. > :49:42.her arms are very stiff so it is harder for her to create her own

:49:43. > :50:13.pace. Rybarikova had that left wrist

:50:14. > :50:17.repaired, she really relies on that left wrist an awful lot because her

:50:18. > :50:23.arms are both pretty stiff when she hits the two hander. She uses that

:50:24. > :50:38.left wrist to come round the ball, trying to create some pace.

:50:39. > :50:52.And here comes a very important moment. Lenses and cameras at the

:50:53. > :50:54.ready as Magdalena Rybarikova is showing this lovely touch, this

:50:55. > :50:57.dexterity she has, guiding the ball straight down the line. She has a

:50:58. > :51:19.break point here. And that is our way and we have got

:51:20. > :51:25.a bit of a shock on our hands here on Centre Court. Ranked 87th, on the

:51:26. > :51:32.comeback trail, only been to the third round once in ten appearances,

:51:33. > :51:35.Rybarikova, 3-1. All this and Roger Federer to come afterwards. Centre

:51:36. > :51:41.Court, as ever, the place to be. Hope you are enjoying this match,

:51:42. > :51:44.just under two hours played. Still boiling hot out there. Plenty of

:51:45. > :51:52.time left to see the master in action later on, the seven time

:51:53. > :52:00.Wimbledon champion. This is quite a shock and will be noticed around the

:52:01. > :52:02.grounds. Pliskova is somebody that was manymany people's favourite to

:52:03. > :52:22.win the tournament. And better footwork on that

:52:23. > :52:28.overhead. Stretching the back again, that other back is a little stiff.

:52:29. > :53:18.-- Upper back. Pliskova taking the first set, up a

:53:19. > :53:24.break 3-2 in the second. And then immediately lost two games in a row.

:53:25. > :54:04.I think that was the first time she lost her own serve.

:54:05. > :54:10.UMPIRE: Miss Rybarikova is challenging the call on the right

:54:11. > :54:13.baseline, the ball was called out. It is wonderful how both of these

:54:14. > :54:18.players are playing within themselves, still playing their own

:54:19. > :54:25.game. That one slightly overhit but the composure from both players has

:54:26. > :54:32.impressed. The technique, for the most part, has remained exactly the

:54:33. > :54:58.same. That is what training does. Break point, Pliskova.

:54:59. > :55:11.Well. Rybarikova has been so solid in fending off macro these break

:55:12. > :55:13.points. Pliskova has only converted from two of ten opportunities,

:55:14. > :56:12.Rybarikova three of four. And it is away this time and despite

:56:13. > :56:15.valiant attempts at backing of the break of serve, Rybarikova loses it.

:56:16. > :56:20.She has a 3-2 lead in this decider, though.

:56:21. > :56:23.SUE BARKER: Fighting back, Pliskova. We will be right back with this

:56:24. > :56:27.match on Centre but we can update you with what is happening over on

:56:28. > :56:34.Court Number One, where Dominic Thiem has taken a 2-1 lead, it is

:56:35. > :56:43.2-2 in the fourth set. That much is currently over on BBC Two. And over

:56:44. > :56:47.on Court Two, Milos Raonic, last year's runner-up is in trouble,

:56:48. > :56:54.losing the opening set and Michal is me. That can be followed on the red

:56:55. > :56:58.button and the BBC sport website -- lose me. Jamie Murray is serving at

:56:59. > :57:08.match point with his partner Bruno Soares. And going well on the grass,

:57:09. > :57:11.they have won two tournaments at Stuttgart and Queen's and winning

:57:12. > :57:17.their open here. Jamie Murray has also entered the Mixed Doubles with

:57:18. > :57:20.Martina Hingis, so I am sure we will see a fair bit of Jamie Murray here

:57:21. > :57:25.at Wimbledon. So we are heading back to Centre Court, just over 15

:57:26. > :57:31.minutes to go until we move over to BBC Two so in all likelihood, Roger

:57:32. > :57:36.Federer's match will be over on BBC Two, but we are staying here until

:57:37. > :57:44.6pm. ANDREW CASTLE: 5:42pm is the time

:57:45. > :57:48.and two hours exactly have been enjoyed in this best-of-3 sets

:57:49. > :57:53.second round match in the ladies' singles championship, mostly played

:57:54. > :57:56.under bright blue skies. About half an hour ago, some cloud cover came

:57:57. > :58:01.over but now sunshine once again and I don't think there is any doubt

:58:02. > :58:02.that we will finish this and see a full Federer match as well. Much to

:58:03. > :58:17.look forward to. In fact, last night, when Nadal was

:58:18. > :58:22.going quite late on Centre Court in his match, they said that to finish

:58:23. > :58:32.the match, they wouldn't close the roof, so... Roger Federer next.

:58:33. > :58:52.A high of number 31 in the world back in 2013 but earlier on this

:58:53. > :58:56.year, no harm -- number 453 was her ranking, Rybarikova. She has had to

:58:57. > :59:07.work her way back and now her day in the sunshine.

:59:08. > :59:13.TRACY AUSTIN: I am so impressed with her resilience, she just hasn't gone

:59:14. > :59:17.away, not intimidated at playing in Centre Court against the number

:59:18. > :59:18.three player in the world who has been the most consistent and

:59:19. > :59:27.successful player all year. That was tricky, the crowd

:59:28. > :59:56.appreciate that. That was noticeable, when she played

:59:57. > :00:01.Venus Williams in the fourth round at the last 16 in the US Open last

:00:02. > :00:09.year, with 20,000 people behind Venus in the Arthur Ashe stadium,

:00:10. > :00:12.she didn't panic at all. Went into match point with a huge crosscourt

:00:13. > :01:10.backhand. UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova is making a

:01:11. > :01:18.challenge on the right. The ball was called out.

:01:19. > :01:46.And that is wide. It is a third break in a row.

:01:47. > :01:53.This is a thrilling match for so many reasons. The comeback of

:01:54. > :02:02.Rybarikova, she is probably playing better now. Talk about a sense of

:02:03. > :02:04.perspective, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Somebody

:02:05. > :02:44.else wrote that! Doesn't seem to be affected by the

:02:45. > :03:03.pressure of trying to close this out.

:03:04. > :03:15.How costly might that be? A little too casual.

:03:16. > :03:23.Just like putting an aid into boiling water, oops, broke it. 5-2

:03:24. > :03:57.lead. Fine length from Rybarikova and the

:03:58. > :04:04.response crosscourt sums up the Pliskova ground strokes. Two hours

:04:05. > :04:11.and seven minute in this heat and humidity. They are knocking the ball

:04:12. > :04:13.all around this wonderful arena. Moving each other from side to side,

:04:14. > :04:53.forward, back. She has got it! Shot of the day.

:04:54. > :05:00.Such a critical moment. 30-0. It went through her fingers. That is

:05:01. > :05:04.just superb, look at the way she comes around the outside of the

:05:05. > :05:19.ball. This had top speed and side spin also.

:05:20. > :05:37.Oh, my... What a return of serve. Bullet. 110 mile-per-hour serve.

:05:38. > :06:58.Game of the match right here. This is pivotal.

:06:59. > :07:07.Well, that is a hold of serve, to go 5-2, up, it really is. You can give

:07:08. > :07:12.them some fatigue because they spend a lot of emotional energy on the

:07:13. > :07:17.court as well as physical energy. They have been running for miles.

:07:18. > :07:20.Well, not miles, but these are all in short sprints and changes of

:07:21. > :07:22.direction. You never really know which way your opponent is going to

:07:23. > :07:34.hit the ball. Rybarikova has been defending a lot.

:07:35. > :07:39.Her defensive work has been quite superb and she almost blew that game

:07:40. > :07:46.with that little drop shot. She rebounded mentally, exquisitely. So

:07:47. > :07:54.impressed with her physical skills. She has always had them. She has

:07:55. > :08:01.been so resilient and calm, in big situations, big moments. Just the

:08:02. > :08:06.implications of this, the proportion of the draw, the winner will play

:08:07. > :08:23.number 35 in the world. I saw Martic qualify, it was superb.

:08:24. > :08:28.Tsurenko at was a semifinalist in the French Open recently. This is an

:08:29. > :08:53.opportunity. I get confused with the names! So

:08:54. > :09:01.many. So many strong players on tour at the moment, such an opportunity

:09:02. > :09:06.at Wimbledon this year. UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova has one challenge

:09:07. > :09:17.remaining. Third round of the French Open for Tsurenko, my mistake.

:09:18. > :09:26.People thought this would be a tough second round when the draw came out.

:09:27. > :09:50.Pliskova was the favourite going in for most people.

:09:51. > :10:00.LAUGHTER That is wonderful!

:10:01. > :10:17.Pliskova ready to serve. At least three opportunities to put that ball

:10:18. > :10:35.away. Not this time. Magdalena Rybarikova,

:10:36. > :10:39.just back a few months, came back in February. A ranking that got you

:10:40. > :10:46.into nothing but the lowest ranked tournaments. Worked her way back in

:10:47. > :11:09.and has won four tournaments including Ilkley and Surbiton.

:11:10. > :11:16.And what a response from Pliskova, from the disappointment of that 18

:11:17. > :12:32.shot rally that she should have won but lost.

:12:33. > :12:44.Rybarikova is about to undergo a severe test of her character and

:12:45. > :12:46.technique and game. If she serves for this, the biggest shock in the

:12:47. > :13:17.women's draw. Fair to say that Rybarikova would

:13:18. > :13:51.prefer not to serve for this. Break now.

:13:52. > :13:57.SUE BARKER: And it goes back to deuce. I'm sorry to say we are

:13:58. > :14:01.coming to the end of our transmission and this match

:14:02. > :14:05.continues on BBC Two. If you want to keep watching this drama unfold on

:14:06. > :14:08.Centre Court, switch over to BBC Two and coming up later, the great man

:14:09. > :14:11.himself, Roger Federer on Centre Court. It will all be over on BBC

:14:12. > :14:15.Two.
