:00:11. > :00:22.This is a national programme. We will take you over to Wimbledon. Her

:00:23. > :00:34.Majesty will present the trophy to a British player. That is really on!

:00:35. > :00:41.Oh, yes. Brilliant. Majestic. Superb!

:00:42. > :00:52.SUE BARKER: Dave five here at Wimbledon and a day British tennis

:00:53. > :00:55.fans have not seen the sometimes is that that is because the Fab four

:00:56. > :01:03.have all made it through to the third round. Is it a record? Well

:01:04. > :01:09.no, not quite. For the record, it is the first time in 20 years that four

:01:10. > :01:12.Brits have made this stage in the men's and Ladies' Singles. They are

:01:13. > :01:17.all in action today. So, Cuban music, it is time to play. -- cue

:01:18. > :01:38.the music. What a performance from Heather

:01:39. > :01:48.Watson! The British number three is through.

:01:49. > :02:17.This could be a special day with all four British players looking to

:02:18. > :02:22.reach week two. That has not happened since 1975. We hope that

:02:23. > :02:25.red, white and blue will be the colours flying high. Aljaz Bedene

:02:26. > :02:31.has never reached a Grand Slam fourth round that has been in fine

:02:32. > :02:36.form and will be confident against 16th seed, Gilles Muller. Heather

:02:37. > :02:42.Watson looks to be at her best foot she has been classy and consistent

:02:43. > :02:50.this season. She is up against Victoria Azarenka. British number

:02:51. > :02:54.one, Jo came through an epic three-hour battle showing true grit

:02:55. > :03:02.and determination. Maria Sakkari is her opponent. Finally, he has been

:03:03. > :03:07.here many times before. Andy Murray has dropped only seven games per

:03:08. > :03:11.match so far. He looks fit and well but Fabio Fognini will provide a

:03:12. > :03:26.tough test today. Here is how it looks.

:03:27. > :03:51.Around the other main courts, Aljaz Bedene is first up on Court Number

:03:52. > :04:09.Two against Gilles Muller. Simona Halep faces Shuai Peng. So, over on

:04:10. > :04:13.Court two, this is where Aljaz Bedene will start. The fans are

:04:14. > :04:19.waiting patiently for the players to make their long way from the locker

:04:20. > :04:20.room. If you want to watch that match, you can, duties on the red

:04:21. > :04:39.button. -- it is on the red button. This is the hub of the club, isn't

:04:40. > :04:44.it? That breeze is drifting across your haircut. This area is players

:04:45. > :04:52.only and some relatives and loved ones. The public area down there. We

:04:53. > :04:55.can go where we want, largely. It is lovely to see the players in their

:04:56. > :05:04.own environment full duck to see them close-up and the sound of the

:05:05. > :05:08.ball coming off the rackets, where is the Slazenger challenge? Where

:05:09. > :05:14.are the wooden rackets, that is what I say? Let's talk through the Brits

:05:15. > :05:21.in action. Jo Konta is the bookies favourite to win the title. We have

:05:22. > :05:25.lost so many big names. Concluding that win yesterday over Pliskova.

:05:26. > :05:31.Now Jo Konta is favourite. I'm not sure whether I see it that way. But,

:05:32. > :05:36.who else will you pick? Perhaps Venus Williams. I know she has had

:05:37. > :05:38.some things to deal with off court but perhaps Jo Konta should be the

:05:39. > :05:48.favourite. The best two matches this year have

:05:49. > :05:51.been women's matches. When the nerves were really tingling, Jo

:05:52. > :05:56.Konta came through for you only have to come through a couple of matches

:05:57. > :06:00.like that and you'll certainly fortified as the torment stretches

:06:01. > :06:09.into the second week. It shows what a competitor she is! I think she has

:06:10. > :06:14.proved a lot to herself. She doubted herself on the grass. Also on the

:06:15. > :06:21.big stage, with the pressure. She had a run-in with the guy from the

:06:22. > :06:26.Daily Mirror newspaper. Asking if it was a disappointment losing in the

:06:27. > :06:33.final. But she has pulled it ) and put up she does her thing, she

:06:34. > :06:38.follows her process. She is quite robotic in her answers and her

:06:39. > :06:42.delivery to the press. She is an extremely warm person. Very funny

:06:43. > :06:48.and very outward going that this is how she does her business. It is

:06:49. > :06:57.serving as well. 18 months ago, before she made the Australian Open

:06:58. > :07:02.semifinal, she was 152, 300 in the world you have no idea she would be

:07:03. > :07:09.this good. I did not see that coming. Not as quickly as she has

:07:10. > :07:13.done. Every year adding some more. Mentally she was doubted herself by

:07:14. > :07:18.getting the sports psychologist involved. Every time she approaches

:07:19. > :07:22.a match, she just goes through this routine. It is probably something to

:07:23. > :07:27.follow. The problem is when a routine this disrupted by what your

:07:28. > :07:32.opponent does. That is the issue. That is what your opponent is for,

:07:33. > :07:37.always disrupting and changing the pattern of play. We will see. I love

:07:38. > :07:45.her backhand. The way she moves in, steps in and drives the volley, that

:07:46. > :07:49.looks 100% secure foot if she gets her service percentage up... Why

:07:50. > :07:55.not? If she is the bookies favourite, then fine. I'm not sure

:07:56. > :08:00.what she will know about her opponent coming up today. I know you

:08:01. > :08:06.had a gentle hit last night with Wayne Ferrer. That is why I am

:08:07. > :08:11.leaning against this thing. One of our team is on the championship

:08:12. > :08:17.Court, Mark Petchey, because he is the coach of Sakkari. Thank you very

:08:18. > :08:23.much. Is hoping that mark might join me. Interestingly, they came out

:08:24. > :08:30.together with no team around them. Mark was only put him as Maria's

:08:31. > :08:34.each for this Wimbledon tournament. I interviewed her the other night

:08:35. > :08:39.and she is a lovely person, absolutely relishing this match

:08:40. > :08:43.against Jo Konta. Just her second time she has appeared here at

:08:44. > :08:47.Wimbledon. She has a wizard she has not been a big fan of grass because

:08:48. > :08:52.she has not had much opportunity to play on it or practice on it. After

:08:53. > :09:00.putting out Christina Pliskova the other day, she said this is one of

:09:01. > :09:04.her favourite services. You can see Mark, who has been looking over full

:09:05. > :09:09.he has put a target down on the court and Maria has been working

:09:10. > :09:13.hard here for ten minutes. Court ten has a lot of interest around it.

:09:14. > :09:18.People are interested into finding out who Maria Sakkari is, who will

:09:19. > :09:25.be taking on Joanna contact. Hopefully I will have a chance to

:09:26. > :09:30.speak to Petchey later on. -- Jo Konta. She has a big day ahead of

:09:31. > :09:34.her. You might want to let him sit down after that practice. You might

:09:35. > :09:40.want to let him get his breath back a bit. He has his whites out of the

:09:41. > :09:46.bottom drawer and he is looking fine. His legs are going that lovely

:09:47. > :09:52.Essex shade of red. They never really get to Brown. He is looking

:09:53. > :09:58.good. Still fit and strong. Very knowledgeable about the game. You'll

:09:59. > :10:04.be so good for her. He is fantastic analysing these statistics. That is

:10:05. > :10:09.he will be so good. It is about making Maria's game the most

:10:10. > :10:14.effective. Maria's mother did not want her to play. She played here in

:10:15. > :10:19.1986 and lost in the first round. Her mother was advised her, whatever

:10:20. > :10:23.you do, do not playing tennis. That is what daughters do. They go

:10:24. > :10:27.against the best advice of parents and follow their own dreams. To be

:10:28. > :10:35.ranked 100 in the world or just outside. You are speaking from

:10:36. > :10:40.experience. They do exactly what they want. Quite right as well.

:10:41. > :10:47.Strong willed women, like you. Absolutely. First on Centre Court is

:10:48. > :10:53.Heather Watson. To years ago we were thinking she would be going so far

:10:54. > :10:57.up the rankings but it didn't. It has gone right just at the right

:10:58. > :11:03.time. It is nice to arrive back at the place you have had great

:11:04. > :11:07.success. She seems to be so keen to compete. Given her natural athletic

:11:08. > :11:13.ability, she keeps knocking the ball back in the right place. If someone

:11:14. > :11:17.is not 100% against her she will take advantage. She is such a

:11:18. > :11:22.competitor. The transition forward, even these days on a grass court, it

:11:23. > :11:31.is possible that she demonstrates it. She has a great split step. She

:11:32. > :11:40.closes it down. I thought Heather would win the match against the top

:11:41. > :11:44.20 player. I was watching it on the scoreboard. There were hoops and

:11:45. > :11:49.hollers right from the word go. An excellent result. You know as well

:11:50. > :11:53.as anyone, it is all about momentum, confidence and belief was that she

:11:54. > :11:59.has in her game full she is a wonderful player. Certainly better

:12:00. > :12:06.than the rankings show. She has proved she can play on Centre Court.

:12:07. > :12:12.Two points from beating Serena Williams a few years ago. Victoria

:12:13. > :12:16.Azarenka has only played two tournaments and she had her son in

:12:17. > :12:21.December. Not a lot of matchplay. You just know she has experience. It

:12:22. > :12:26.is amazing. She played at won in Majorca and did not do great. She

:12:27. > :12:32.came here and I was watching her match on Court three against this

:12:33. > :12:40.Nina and she is hitting the ball unbelievably. Something about

:12:41. > :12:45.fitness against freshness. When you are fresh, look what Federer did!

:12:46. > :12:50.When you want to play and are keen to be out on the court, competing

:12:51. > :12:58.and gaining victories, this is what she is about. I think it will be

:12:59. > :13:02.difficult for Heather to win. She is a former world number one. I think

:13:03. > :13:09.it will be a big demand today. Who knows? Heather is moving great

:13:10. > :13:16.around the court. She was practising out here earlier today. Victoria

:13:17. > :13:25.Azarenka hits such a heavy ball. There will be some patching rallies

:13:26. > :13:30.in this match. When she was playing Vesnina I could not believe how hard

:13:31. > :13:35.she was hitting it. She will change the height over the net, the pace.

:13:36. > :13:40.She will change the Spain, the looks. She will change the way she

:13:41. > :13:46.returns serve. Always changing the view. That is a matchplay. Going in

:13:47. > :13:49.against Heather Watson, playing in front of the home crowd is not like

:13:50. > :13:58.playing Heather Watson anywhere else. She is inspired. When it gets

:13:59. > :14:04.really tight in a match, ill be interesting how she deals with it

:14:05. > :14:09.all. If Heather stays close early against the one who is a better

:14:10. > :14:14.player than you and it has to be said Victoria Azarenka is better, it

:14:15. > :14:19.is one on one. When the going gets tough, we will see whether the lack

:14:20. > :14:28.of matches that Azarenka has will tell. She is very happy and very

:14:29. > :14:36.happy to be out on the court as well. That is the first match on

:14:37. > :14:42.Centre Court. The last match is Andy Murray. We are not mentioning the H

:14:43. > :14:49.word anymore. He is not walking any differently than he normally does. I

:14:50. > :14:54.keep on hearing it. I am watching the matches. I was commentating on

:14:55. > :15:00.the first one. He is definitely walking poorly between points. It

:15:01. > :15:04.does not matter what happens between the points. I was on Clapham Common

:15:05. > :15:08.and the other day watching a greyhound rescued from Battersea

:15:09. > :15:14.dogs home. It walks like it had a big history in racing. Then I threw

:15:15. > :15:20.the ball for it. People stopped to watch it. Andy is the same. You

:15:21. > :15:30.throw a ball to Andy, he is so fast. His first step in his other two

:15:31. > :15:36.matches has been unbelievable. He has shown touch and feel. He has

:15:37. > :15:42.just reacted so fast. His first step has been incredible and he has

:15:43. > :15:49.chosen the right shots to play. That is a man with a terrible hip! You

:15:50. > :15:54.sense that he is going to use every angle, make him run wide and up to

:15:55. > :15:59.the net. He was. You have to go in with some sort of game plan when you

:16:00. > :16:03.are playing world number one. Throwing in different looks and

:16:04. > :16:11.spins, perhaps attacking the second serve. You have to go in with a

:16:12. > :16:15.plan. He went in with a plan. It was not good enough because Andy was

:16:16. > :16:22.phenomenal. He looks quite unspectacular compared with Rafael

:16:23. > :16:27.Nadal and Roger, particularly. He hits every ball of the base. It is

:16:28. > :16:37.concrete and unreal. To knock him off balance is not possible. There

:16:38. > :16:42.was 1.I noticed particularly in one of the matches. It was a 130 miles

:16:43. > :16:52.an hour serve. The ball came back and arrived on the shoelaces of, I

:16:53. > :16:57.think, Dustin Brown. Murray is all about substance. For him, I think he

:16:58. > :17:03.thinks the tournament is about him. Fabio Fognini, when you look at it,

:17:04. > :17:08.it is 3-3 in the head to heads. On paper, this looks difficult but the

:17:09. > :17:14.match is not one on paper, is it? On the grass court and he is heavy

:17:15. > :17:21.favourite. It is not play. Fabio has won all his matches on clay. Earlier

:17:22. > :17:31.on in the European clay-court season, Fognini at the Italian main

:17:32. > :17:39.court, is extraordinary. He grows three inches. His chest expands full

:17:40. > :17:43.he is Italian. He expresses himself. He is fabulous. Centre Court is a

:17:44. > :17:52.lovely stage for him. He will really love it. Who knows? The first was

:17:53. > :17:57.chaos and the second one was whatever it was. Fabio has very

:17:58. > :18:02.short take back. He developed a lot of power on both wings from no take

:18:03. > :18:07.back at all. A very dangerous opponent. Murray will respect him

:18:08. > :18:11.100%. These are the sorts of matches we should see in the first three

:18:12. > :18:16.days, not waiting for the third round. Fognini, it is he was not

:18:17. > :18:22.seeded between 17 and 32, these are the matches you might see on a first

:18:23. > :18:24.couple of rounds. That is why the women's matches have been more

:18:25. > :18:29.interesting this year and the men's have not. You put the big names on

:18:30. > :18:35.Centre Court and through injury or whatever, they have not been able to

:18:36. > :18:39.produce. Today this is potentially a very dangerous match. Fognini is

:18:40. > :18:45.class and he has not lost a set on the way through to the third round.

:18:46. > :18:52.Aljaz Bedene is making his way onto court number two for his third round

:18:53. > :18:56.match against Gilles Muller. This is the first point of the match. It is

:18:57. > :19:05.on the red button. We'll be going out a few minutes -- in a few

:19:06. > :19:15.minutes to join the match live. A brilliant return from Bedene. Game,

:19:16. > :19:20.set and match. Congratulations. Through to the third round at

:19:21. > :19:26.Wimbledon for the first time how does that feel? It feels really

:19:27. > :19:31.good. The first match was tough. I was tired but made it. That is a

:19:32. > :19:35.glorious shot. That was even better. It was a different game from the

:19:36. > :19:40.first one. More rallies and a slower serve. Plus he is a good friend of

:19:41. > :19:49.mine. It is never easy to play against him. I heard on the

:19:50. > :19:58.grapevine that he wanted some borrowed kit. He did ask if he could

:19:59. > :20:02.borrow some match shirts and shorts. He was playing today with my kit. I

:20:03. > :20:07.am sure the crowd will be behind you today when you play 16th seed,

:20:08. > :20:16.Gilles Muller. I played him a few weeks ago and lost him in three sets

:20:17. > :20:20.in Holland. He won the tournament and then lost in the semis at

:20:21. > :20:25.Queen's. So, obviously when he is playing well at the moment. But, I

:20:26. > :20:37.have to focus on my game, stick to the plan. Hopefully it will work. He

:20:38. > :20:43.has certainly had a good run so far. Gilles Muller is very tough. The big

:20:44. > :20:54.lefty serve. He has done well on the grass. He has won his first two

:20:55. > :20:59.titles. It is another one of these Karlovic matches. If you are on call

:21:00. > :21:03.two, you could be there for some time. He knows against Gilles Muller

:21:04. > :21:07.he cannot break too many times it is a question of being patient and just

:21:08. > :21:15.waiting and hanging on in there. Fantastic that he is doing so well.

:21:16. > :21:21.Miller had beaten Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Sam Querrey at Queen's. When

:21:22. > :21:26.you're in the third round of a Grand Slam, talk about inspired. Bedene

:21:27. > :21:32.is. He is one of the hardest workers out there. That match is on the red

:21:33. > :21:38.button if you want to watch it. Reading some of the papers, so many

:21:39. > :21:41.reports about the court surfaces and complaints by some of the players. I

:21:42. > :21:49.am not sure how many players are complaining. The courts are too

:21:50. > :21:58.slippery and suchlike. This was yesterday. This was before the

:21:59. > :22:00.match. Coming out with Pam Whitecross, the Grand Slams

:22:01. > :22:07.supervisor. She is a former player herself. Also we had the assistant

:22:08. > :22:11.referee, also a former player. They said, yes, play on. Then that

:22:12. > :22:16.horrible fall that she had. This was just in the second game of the

:22:17. > :22:20.match. Both players are saying, I don't think the court is playable.

:22:21. > :22:23.We have asked for a statement from the club. They said the court

:22:24. > :22:29.preparation has been the same standard as in previous years. Grass

:22:30. > :22:34.is a natural service and it is usual for the baseline to show signs of

:22:35. > :22:41.wear and tear four days into the championship. That says it all. They

:22:42. > :22:45.monitor moisture levels. The sports turf Institute gets together with

:22:46. > :22:57.the All-England tennis club and monitors this. Neal Studley is the

:22:58. > :23:08.overall groundsman, in charge of Centre Court specifically. He was

:23:09. > :23:11.concerned. Grant said the temperature was 43.5 Celsius, not

:23:12. > :23:16.good for the natural surface. The grant will and then dies if you

:23:17. > :23:21.leave it like that for a couple of days. What he did was put the roof

:23:22. > :23:27.over, he taught me that was his plan. Put the roof over and give it

:23:28. > :23:32.a thorough soaking. Basically give it a drink and the rest, which is

:23:33. > :23:36.what we'll need at times. It is a natural surface. Some of the grass

:23:37. > :23:41.dies and it gets slippery. Players are not used to moving on this

:23:42. > :23:45.surface. They do not play on it for long. In the old days he would be in

:23:46. > :23:49.Australia for a few weeks and at the US Open playing on grass. Now they

:23:50. > :23:55.are not used to it. They try to change direction at the baseline

:23:56. > :23:58.where the grass has worn out. People are not volleying so much will stop

:23:59. > :24:01.it is slippery down there. Of course the players will be listened to. No

:24:02. > :24:09.one wants to see them falling over. It should be stressed that that

:24:10. > :24:14.terrible injury was nothing to do with the surface. It was just an

:24:15. > :24:18.unfortunate accident and we wish her well. We have heard she is having

:24:19. > :24:25.more scans today in hospital. She just wanted to thank everybody.

:24:26. > :24:31.Everybody in tennis sends her the best. Nobody wants to see anything

:24:32. > :24:35.like that happen to any player. It does look quite serious. We wish her

:24:36. > :24:41.well. The weather is a big dictator as well. Last year, if we compare

:24:42. > :24:47.the courts this year to last year, last year it rained for about the

:24:48. > :24:55.first four days. Last year it looked quite lush on the Friday morning.

:24:56. > :25:02.Compared with how they look today... This is today. A lot more brown

:25:03. > :25:08.patches around the baseline. That is the way it happens. This is the

:25:09. > :25:12.glory and simultaneously the stupidity of these wonderful grass

:25:13. > :25:19.courts. This is where the game came from. It changes every day. Over 13

:25:20. > :25:26.days of play and 14 game is in total. The grass court has changed

:25:27. > :25:30.completely. The height of the bands can change. Everything changes.

:25:31. > :25:37.There was an adjustment to be made all the time. That includes movement

:25:38. > :25:40.behind the baseline. The players have to understand, the vast

:25:41. > :25:48.majority of them... This was caught AT last year. You're just compare it

:25:49. > :25:52.to where it is. -- Court 18. It is nice to see a monitor in the

:25:53. > :25:59.sunshine. What they were complaining about was it was starting to crack.

:26:00. > :26:02.That will happen, went it? The cracks are largely off the playing

:26:03. > :26:09.surface. I was noticing that on Centre Court yesterday. This is the

:26:10. > :26:12.nature of the natural surface. You just have to get on with it,

:26:13. > :26:18.unfortunately. While the players must be listened to, and it is

:26:19. > :26:23.important, what do they expect? This sort of weather is unusual. It is

:26:24. > :26:30.the hottest summer since 76. And I remember that! It was just so hot. I

:26:31. > :26:39.remember the courts being brown as well. Memories of 76. Look at the

:26:40. > :26:48.fashions! There we go. Everybody sweltered. Oh, no. No. Let's just

:26:49. > :26:56.concentrate on the court, rather than the players. That was 1976.

:26:57. > :27:03.That was me playing Martina Navratilova when I was 3-1 up in the

:27:04. > :27:08.third set and lost. That was the quarterfinal. There I was playing

:27:09. > :27:12.some junior tournament in the under 12, watching the tubes go by,

:27:13. > :27:21.wondering what they were. Like you, I am from the West Country. You led

:27:22. > :27:28.3-1 foot at you can remember why you lost. I remember two drop shots at

:27:29. > :27:32.15-40. I do not want to relive it anymore. Thanks everyone for a mind

:27:33. > :27:39.to me of another famous lost here at Wimbledon. There are a few of them.

:27:40. > :27:46.Stop it. Stop it. Sorry. We must move on. There are so many Brits in

:27:47. > :27:51.action. Thanks so much, Andrew. Aljaz Bedene is out on Court two.

:27:52. > :27:56.That is on the red button. 43 degrees yesterday. The courts are

:27:57. > :28:03.really suffering. Will it continue? Let's find out from Carol. At the

:28:04. > :28:08.moment, the temperature is 25 Celsius. It is really warm. It will

:28:09. > :28:13.get warmer in the afternoon. Hot and humid probably sums it up. A bit of

:28:14. > :28:17.fair weather cloud developing but nothing too sinister but it should

:28:18. > :28:22.stay dry. Interview thing we're looking at a similar level of

:28:23. > :28:25.temperature. Still plenty of sunny spells. For tomorrow there will be a

:28:26. > :28:30.little more cloud around and we're looking at today. Nonetheless we

:28:31. > :28:36.will have lengthy sunny spells. Not as hot. Temperature wise we are

:28:37. > :28:41.looking at 23, 24, maybe 25. You will notice it will feel much

:28:42. > :28:48.pressure. Pollen levels still hide today and tomorrow. Fresh sounds

:28:49. > :28:54.good to me. Bank keep very much. You can see the crowds milling behind

:28:55. > :28:59.Carol. -- thank you. Huge crowds because Andy Murray is playing, Jo

:29:00. > :29:03.Konta is on court as well. Currently there are more people in the queue

:29:04. > :29:07.than the allocation of centre and number one court tickets for

:29:08. > :29:10.tomorrow, Saturday. The club strongly advises people to wait

:29:11. > :29:17.until tomorrow to queue for the ground admission. The club are

:29:18. > :29:21.saying not much point coming today because the Centre Court and number

:29:22. > :29:26.one Court allocation is already taken. These are the scenes here at

:29:27. > :29:30.Wimbledon. Another fabulous day to look forward to, basking in the

:29:31. > :29:37.sunshine. Hot for everybody around here. We are heading off to see

:29:38. > :29:44.their first Brit in action. He is on Court Number Two, Aljaz Bedene. We

:29:45. > :29:49.have seen him up against the big server from Luxembourg, Gilles

:29:50. > :29:57.Muller. Let's join our commentators on court, John Lloyd and Ronald

:29:58. > :30:05.McIntosh. Plenty of activities up in the stands. People pouring into

:30:06. > :30:13.court two. The third round matchup is currently on serve. Bedene took

:30:14. > :30:18.Gilles Muller to deuce. He remained calm in the third game of this

:30:19. > :30:25.match. Both players moving around comfortably. Gorgeous conditions

:30:26. > :30:31.once again. Not a cloud in the sky. Not a breath of wind. Fourth game,

:30:32. > :31:18.first set, we are on serve. Bedene serving, 1-2.

:31:19. > :32:06.That is the first double fault of the match from Bedene.

:32:07. > :32:22.Good serving after that double fault. His first of the match so

:32:23. > :32:32.far. 123 mph down the centreline. His bird ace of the match. Muller

:32:33. > :32:57.serving. What a second serve that was. 99

:32:58. > :33:01.mph, but these spin on that, the way it swerves. Inside the other service

:33:02. > :33:19.box. This sort of service power that he

:33:20. > :33:23.has, not one of the biggest on the Tour but it is the radiation that

:33:24. > :33:30.causes the problem. He will go in the body, wide to the forehand, his

:33:31. > :33:34.bread-and-butter down the middle, swerving away from the right-hander.

:33:35. > :34:03.He has got it all on this serves. Good return. Very good. No chance to

:34:04. > :34:19.breathe on that return of serve. The wind is picking up slightly.

:34:20. > :36:11.This court is like playing in a bowl.

:36:12. > :36:26.That is the second double fault of the match from Muller. Pleading with

:36:27. > :36:35.the tennis gods. Deuce for the second successive time. He has not

:36:36. > :36:43.got his rhythm yet. Normally his first serve is such a big part of

:36:44. > :36:52.his game. He pulled his shoulder down, did not stay up on the ball.

:36:53. > :36:57.That is another chance. He had that deuce. In the first game he had the

:36:58. > :37:02.second serve, Bedene, and returned it to the bottom of the net. The

:37:03. > :37:07.same thing there. Sometimes when you're playing against a big server

:37:08. > :37:11.you might only get one chance on a grass court and he has had two

:37:12. > :37:15.chances and he has not converted either of them. He has not even made

:37:16. > :37:27.him play, which is what normally happens.

:37:28. > :37:39.We remain on serve. In this opening set. Bedene has had his British

:37:40. > :37:44.passports and 2015. He is deeply that desire that he wants to play at

:37:45. > :37:48.Tokyo 2020 as an Olympian and in order to do that you have to play

:37:49. > :37:53.Davis cup for the nation you want to represent and to this point when he

:37:54. > :37:59.has not played Davis cup for GB and he has had two appeals rejected

:38:00. > :38:03.already... He is getting frustrated. He would love to play in the Davis

:38:04. > :38:10.cup and we would love him to play as well. Leon Smith would be desperate

:38:11. > :38:15.for him to play with Kyle Edmund and the team and Andy Murray, who plays

:38:16. > :38:22.a lot of matches but sometimes does not. It would be pretty formidable.

:38:23. > :38:26.Jamie Murray in the doubles. Still a very good team even without Andy

:38:27. > :38:30.Murray if you can get him in the team. The powers that be are trying

:38:31. > :38:39.hard but at the moment not having much joy. The others are these

:38:40. > :39:15.working furiously to resolve that. We are on serve.

:39:16. > :39:32.That is the longest rally of the match, 11 strokes.

:39:33. > :39:41.Ace number four from Bedene. The line judge has had to take a little

:39:42. > :39:48.bit of evasive action. 40 mph. Only just cleared. That is a clever

:39:49. > :40:28.return from Muller. Terrific service game so far. Five

:40:29. > :40:35.aces for the match. He is not known for a really big serve but it is

:40:36. > :41:05.accurate. He finds corners. That was 117.

:41:06. > :41:12.Neither player striking the ball that well at the moment. It is

:41:13. > :41:16.almost like they are anticipating getting ready for the end of the set

:41:17. > :41:22.and that is maybe when the best games will come. At the moment they

:41:23. > :41:33.are a little bit flat, not quite there yet.

:41:34. > :41:44.Terrific forehand. First break point. How well did he hit that?

:41:45. > :41:50.Beautifully done from Muller. Content to hit these slices and he

:41:51. > :41:52.gets an opportunity. It was a tough opportunity. He extended that

:41:53. > :42:14.forehand so well. A big chance. He looks up at his coach. He was an

:42:15. > :42:21.two minds whether to come in on that one. He sort of job that the ball.

:42:22. > :43:29.That was a big opportunity. He is normally so solid on break points.

:43:30. > :43:39.Really started to generate some power from that forehand, Muller.

:43:40. > :44:03.Such a contrast with a slice and back spinning on that backhand.

:44:04. > :44:18.Delightful. So clever, isn't he? He just sets up points so well. He

:44:19. > :44:24.carved that backhand slice, it is stable, and his preparation at the

:44:25. > :44:32.net is so perfect. The racket out in front, what the split step. Perfect

:44:33. > :44:37.shot. Drop that volley shot. Excellent response. Break point

:44:38. > :45:22.down. Ace number six. Break point for the third time. It

:45:23. > :45:24.earned by Muller. Bedene responded with an ace on his previous serve. A

:45:25. > :45:54.spot of pressure here. He has booted long. The first

:45:55. > :46:05.service brake of the match goes to Muller. At the moment Bedene, both

:46:06. > :46:10.players, I do not think Muller is playing that well, I think that game

:46:11. > :46:15.was a little bit of a gift, that break of serve, I do not think

:46:16. > :46:16.Bedene played a good game at all, Bedene does not look sharp at the

:46:17. > :47:03.moment. It gives you an idea of the

:47:04. > :47:17.amphitheatre that John was referring to earlier.

:47:18. > :47:29.Muller ended up in no man's land. A glamour of an opportunity to fashion

:47:30. > :48:13.a break point. Just not like him. Still looking to

:48:14. > :48:19.find that rhythm. Consistently. On these ground strokes. Two break

:48:20. > :48:24.points for Bedene. A big opportunity to break back immediately.

:48:25. > :48:30.Opportunity is being thrown around by both players at the moment. That

:48:31. > :49:34.is some response. Still break point. Could not do enough with the volley,

:49:35. > :49:41.Muller. A bit of an awkward height for Muller to hit. It was not really

:49:42. > :49:45.an overhead, in between shots, but he should have done better, he put

:49:46. > :50:05.it straight to bed any's forehand and he said thank you very much.

:50:06. > :50:20.My goodness. Unable to consolidate the break he built previously.

:50:21. > :50:34.Bedene breaks back immediately. We are back on serve. You did not see

:50:35. > :50:40.but when Muller was walking to his chair at the end of the double fault

:50:41. > :50:47.he gave the thumbs up sarcastically to his coaching team. Everything is

:50:48. > :50:51.not particularly well in his camp at the moment and Bedene played a

:50:52. > :50:56.pretty poor game to lose his serve so at the moment it is, you want

:50:57. > :51:03.this? I am not sure if they both have hangovers from... You can see

:51:04. > :51:07.he is not quite there and he is up 4-3. You would think he is down a

:51:08. > :51:16.set and the break. I do not know if this is a high over from his epic

:51:17. > :51:21.match. Watch this. Thumbs up. That is very rare from him. He is

:51:22. > :51:24.normally very good like that with his body language. That is showing a

:51:25. > :51:30.sign of a little mental fatigue perhaps from that epic second round

:51:31. > :51:40.match that he won in the fifth against Lukas Rosol. The .5 hours

:51:41. > :51:45.for that match. Spectators making their way back in with refreshments.

:51:46. > :52:03.Bedene serving with new balls. I do not know if Bedene so Muller,

:52:04. > :52:08.his attitude, but that is a lovely tonic when you are playing someone

:52:09. > :52:16.and you see the negativity come out, that gives you a big boost. He was

:52:17. > :52:18.muttering furiously to himself. During the sit down. One wonders

:52:19. > :52:22.what the nature of the conversation was. Whether it is all off of his

:52:23. > :53:04.taste. Cheeky. Everybody retreated, even

:53:05. > :53:11.the lines people were waiting for the overhead to be smashed at them

:53:12. > :53:22.at 100 mph. I am just going to build this one so hard, no, I am not.

:53:23. > :53:38.My goodness. Second serve ace. Only 95 mph but it completely bemused

:53:39. > :53:48.Muller. Approving applause. Impressive sheets he had a run.

:53:49. > :54:17.Bedene consolidates the break in the seventh game. On serve.

:54:18. > :54:27.Well played. Muller hanging around in the point, the previous overhead

:54:28. > :54:33.not put away by Bedene, the second one proving effective. That was the

:54:34. > :54:40.longest rally. A tough shot to go for. Hard backhand smash, missed it

:54:41. > :55:27.pretty comfortably. Well reached and well executed. Firm

:55:28. > :55:38.handed volley. Good instincts at the net from Muller. He takes a split

:55:39. > :56:02.step. Racket out in front. Hit play that nicely.

:56:03. > :56:10.The one, two punch of the serve volley working really afflicted --

:56:11. > :56:26.effectively for Muller and he is using it really well.

:56:27. > :56:34.Second ace of the match to wrap up that service game. Remain on serve

:56:35. > :56:39.in the first set. Tense times ahead. Bedene will come

:56:40. > :56:49.out to stay in the first set and we will be back with it in a moment.

:56:50. > :56:58.Kei Nishikori, the ninth seed, has lost his opening set to Roberto

:56:59. > :57:02.Bautista Agut. Roberto Bautista Agut is a former fourth-round player at

:57:03. > :57:07.Wimbledon. Kei Nishikori does not really like the grass. That is on

:57:08. > :57:15.the red button. Caroline Garcia is up against Madison Brengle and has

:57:16. > :57:24.taken the first set and will winning 1-0 in the second. She was the

:57:25. > :57:29.player who put out Petra Kvitova in the last round. That is on the

:57:30. > :57:37.website and the red button. We will keep you up-to-date with those but

:57:38. > :57:44.let us head back to Court Two. Considering his body language was

:57:45. > :57:49.rather negative at the end of his previous service game, that of the

:57:50. > :57:51.terrific response from Muller. Bedene serving to stay in the first

:57:52. > :59:14.set. Fantastic return from Muller. He did

:59:15. > :59:19.well to get his feet there to get out of the way of the ball because

:59:20. > :59:20.it was curving into him. He had to adjust and get the forehand down the

:59:21. > :59:49.line. That tells you that their ball

:59:50. > :00:08.caught the frame rather than the strings, the noise.

:00:09. > :00:38.That is the second double fault of the match for Bedene.

:00:39. > :00:59.So, now, it is set point for the 16th seed. Significant pressure on

:01:00. > :01:18.the shoulders of Bedene now. My goodness! Just the right side of

:01:19. > :01:55.the line from Bedene's and of view. -- point of view. Terrifically well

:01:56. > :02:01.played from Bedene. During the course of that rally, he lost his

:02:02. > :02:07.footing on the bare patch behind the baseline. Here is how he did it. His

:02:08. > :02:43.determination to get back in was evident. He was all over the place.

:02:44. > :02:54.He was so inventive, so clever. He executed it wonderfully. Terrific

:02:55. > :02:57.variety from Bedene. I cannot believe he went for this at this

:02:58. > :03:04.position. If he was behind the baseline, this was used. About to go

:03:05. > :03:13.down set point. He had the courage and the belief and he made it. So,

:03:14. > :03:15.Bedene saved the set point and rustled up some wonderful tennis to

:03:16. > :03:27.hold serve. Both players may not have found

:03:28. > :03:37.rhythm is consistently as they would have liked, won hands to think that

:03:38. > :03:45.Bedene's is soaring. -- one house to think. Number four. Excuse me,

:03:46. > :04:00.number three. He's saved me there. Just out of

:04:01. > :04:41.sync with sound and vision. This is amazing! My goodness! It

:04:42. > :04:47.curved as though it was the boomerang. If he makes this one, it

:04:48. > :05:00.would be four in a row full probably go for it even if he loses his first

:05:01. > :05:07.serve. That is amazing. Let me enquire of your greater expertise

:05:08. > :05:08.and experience. Does it have a specific name? Annoying, if you are

:05:09. > :05:26.his opponent. Unbelievable, this! Bedene was just

:05:27. > :05:33.walking side to side. There we go, and queue. Unbelievable! Having said

:05:34. > :05:37.that, Bedene saw that against Karlovic in the first match. There

:05:38. > :05:46.was one game where there were four clean aces. He is used to it.

:05:47. > :05:54.Against Karlovic, there were 44 aces hit at him. He is used to that. Now

:05:55. > :06:01.he has Gilles Muller coming at him. It is like, please, what have I done

:06:02. > :06:08.to deserve this? Well, Charles Miller, in the midst of his best

:06:09. > :06:16.ever run. -- Gilles Muller. A sensational performance. 35 years of

:06:17. > :06:28.age but his first two titles on tour this year. Part of a prominent wave

:06:29. > :06:34.of success in Luxembourg sport. They put Rangers out of the Europa League

:06:35. > :06:35.and also the Tour de France. Bedene serving to force a first set

:06:36. > :07:27.tie-break. Both of them were digging up shots

:07:28. > :07:36.that were at their ankles. Unbelievable! Had a chance to come

:07:37. > :07:38.in the net, Bedene, on a short forehand and elected to hit the ball

:07:39. > :08:09.and go back to the baseline again. He has launched a challenge

:08:10. > :08:13.immediately, Charles Muller. The -- from the commentary position where

:08:14. > :08:34.it looked to be pretty close. What says Hawk-Eye! Pretty close.

:08:35. > :08:42.Perfect from Bedene. He really had to dig the backhand back into play.

:08:43. > :08:43.I'd thought he was in trouble. An excellent return of serve from

:08:44. > :09:44.Gilles Muller. Well reached will stop that was a

:09:45. > :09:51.horrific point. The return was deep. The route to the net was

:09:52. > :10:10.sure-footed. What a return! He was onto ball in a flash.

:10:11. > :10:22.He had a chance to come in on that forehand. Half court forehand.

:10:23. > :10:32.Bedene saved the set point in the ninth game. Another one here.

:10:33. > :11:37.A couple of backhand slices from Gilles Muller that caused Bedene to

:11:38. > :12:06.dig deep in that point. Terrific battling from Bedene. He's

:12:07. > :12:16.sort of set point for the second time to hold serve in the tie-break.

:12:17. > :12:44.Both players have received one additional challenge.

:12:45. > :13:32.Interesting, enquiring to the welfare of the ball kid.

:13:33. > :14:06.UMPIRE: The ball was called in. It was his point. He did not really do

:14:07. > :14:35.too much to win that point. He has got the first mini-break

:14:36. > :14:55.serving a volley on his second serve. That surprise tactic worked.

:14:56. > :15:06.That was a classy shot. That is not an easy shot. 3-1 in the

:15:07. > :15:12.tie-breaker. That was very difficult. See how low he stayed on

:15:13. > :15:50.the ball. Look at that! Dutifully done. -- beautifully done.

:15:51. > :16:55.Heap played such a good point. So cagey. The sliced backhand. Slicing

:16:56. > :17:02.and dicing the opponent. Then this is the shot. Played it so perfectly.

:17:03. > :17:04.This is, for him, a bad miss that does not normally miss the approach

:17:05. > :17:55.shots. Could have been more. Again, Gilles Muller was so good at

:17:56. > :17:58.managing the points. That was the wrong shot selection, to go to the

:17:59. > :18:24.forehand and open up the passing shot. All even.

:18:25. > :19:00.I am not sure what he was trying to do. That was a strange shot.

:19:01. > :19:36.The mis-hit was punished ruthlessly by Gilles Muller.

:19:37. > :19:50.A brawl of delight from Charles Miller as he takes the first set on

:19:51. > :20:05.tie-break. -- a roar of delight. The 16th seed is leading 1-0 sets.

:20:06. > :20:14.SUE BARKER: I am afraid we are leaving this match now. It is our

:20:15. > :20:19.feature much on the red button. We'll be heading to Centre Court, as

:20:20. > :20:23.that is just about to get under way with Heather Watson and Victoria

:20:24. > :20:29.Azarenka. Four British players in action today. On Court Number One

:20:30. > :20:36.Robbie Jo Konta. There she is on the practice courts today. -- it will be

:20:37. > :20:43.Jo Konta. She came through her last match in three very close sets. It

:20:44. > :20:48.was one of the best matches ever on Centre Court. 10-8 in the final set.

:20:49. > :20:54.She has proved a lot to herself that she is playing a player she does not

:20:55. > :21:00.know a lot about, Maria Sakkari, of Greece. She is coached by one of our

:21:01. > :21:06.team, Mark Petchey. She was on the practice courts with her earlier

:21:07. > :21:09.today. We caught up with him. Mark, we watched you getting put through

:21:10. > :21:16.your paces. Was it the other way around? I spoke to Maria the other

:21:17. > :21:20.day and she was talking how much she is looking forward to taking on Jo

:21:21. > :21:29.Konta. Now it is match day, how is she feeling? She is looking forward

:21:30. > :21:33.to it. We all want to get out onto the big courts and put our best

:21:34. > :21:37.against the best. Jo Konta is one of the best players in the world right

:21:38. > :21:42.now one of the favourites for the tournament. The ultimate challenge

:21:43. > :21:46.today. What have you been saying to Maria? Obviously you go out and play

:21:47. > :21:54.your game to start with. You're well aware of what Jo Konta is capable of

:21:55. > :21:57.doing. Hitting the ball so big, that is super impressive. Harder than

:21:58. > :22:05.Serena hit last year. There is an awful lot to content with, for

:22:06. > :22:10.Maria. I looked at her game a lot. Sometimes it is not always that

:22:11. > :22:15.easy. I played Boris in 97 felt I was confident. I realised very

:22:16. > :22:19.quickly it was a different sport he was playing. It is about trying to

:22:20. > :22:25.understand your strength and their weaknesses. It is only her second

:22:26. > :22:31.Wimbledon. It is a big deal for her. It was a huge achievement. She had a

:22:32. > :22:37.big low at the French Open. He has done very well to pick herself up.

:22:38. > :22:43.Obviously, her confidence is a lot higher than it was in Paris. It is

:22:44. > :22:47.the two horse race. Definitely safe fighting chance. From what I have

:22:48. > :22:51.seen of Maria, she is a real battler. She scraps around the

:22:52. > :22:55.baseline trying to get everything back. Shall be doing a lot of

:22:56. > :23:00.running on Court Number One. Jo Konta will be hitting into the

:23:01. > :23:05.corners. Big crowds here at Wimbledon. Another very hot, sunny

:23:06. > :23:12.day. The fifth one we have had in a row. If you want to watch any of the

:23:13. > :23:19.tennis on any of the courts come on the BBC, the app and the red button,

:23:20. > :23:24.just a reminder that Aljaz Bedene's the feature match, is on the red

:23:25. > :23:29.button. Now we are going to focus on Centre Court. First up, Victoria

:23:30. > :23:35.Azarenka takes on Heather Watson of Great Britain, he looks to be at her

:23:36. > :23:37.best. She had fallen out of the top 100. She is through to the third

:23:38. > :23:56.round foot here is her story far. I felt great within my game. Happy.

:23:57. > :24:02.I am playing really well. Terrific. First match I got clout of the

:24:03. > :24:04.blocks quicker and ran with it. Her smile says it all. Heather Watson,

:24:05. > :24:15.through to round two. I thought I was pretty flawless in

:24:16. > :24:20.the first set. For the second set, Ike Specter turned to raise her

:24:21. > :24:28.level, which she did. I was pleased how I stayed calm and kept my focus.

:24:29. > :24:33.What a performance from Heather Watson! Heather Watson will be

:24:34. > :24:39.stepping out onto this famous court in just a moment. She loves it here,

:24:40. > :24:45.as does one of our special guests, Kim cloisters. She is joining our

:24:46. > :24:50.team. You used to love it out here, didn't you? It is a very special

:24:51. > :24:58.court. You played here to celebrate the roof. I played against Steffi

:24:59. > :25:04.Graf and Andre Agassi and played with Tim Henman. It was a very

:25:05. > :25:08.special occasion. It is a very special occasion. Wonderful for

:25:09. > :25:14.British tennis. Four players through to the third round. This is huge

:25:15. > :25:18.Heather. A lot has happened in the last two years since she was out

:25:19. > :25:21.here against Serena Williams. I don't know if that will come out in

:25:22. > :25:28.the match or have any bearing on what happens. Heather is not that

:25:29. > :25:32.keen on the practice court. She loves the big stage and fans. We

:25:33. > :25:36.have a new darling at Wimbledon and that is Heather. They love her

:25:37. > :25:41.because she smiles and just looks so happy on the court. A wonderful win

:25:42. > :25:46.in the last round. I don't know if you watch that much against Serena

:25:47. > :25:52.Williams. She was two points away from doing it... She just looked

:25:53. > :25:59.like a top 20 that day. She does will stop what I like about her is

:26:00. > :26:05.the energy she brings on the court. She fights for every shot. If you

:26:06. > :26:13.are not playing your best tennis, she is a really dangerous opponent.

:26:14. > :26:18.Serena is Serena. She steps it up when she has to. That is what she

:26:19. > :26:25.did here. She is absorbing the power, isn't she? That is her game.

:26:26. > :26:31.If you can absorb the power of Serena, you can cope with anyone.

:26:32. > :26:36.She will need to do the same today. You have played Azarenka. She is so

:26:37. > :26:43.up on her baseline. She keeps squeezing until you miss. She takes

:26:44. > :26:47.the ball very early on the rise was not especially with the return much

:26:48. > :26:53.she likes to go really deep. When you serve deep into the court, it is

:26:54. > :27:00.tough. It will be tough for Heather. She has the game where she can throw

:27:01. > :27:07.Azarenka off a bit. I don't think we talk enough about her. Lotsa people

:27:08. > :27:12.say she does not have much power. The way she reads the shots. Heather

:27:13. > :27:17.is one of the best balanced players on the tour. You need that on a

:27:18. > :27:25.grass court. You have to dance across it. She can match or beat

:27:26. > :27:31.better than Azarenka athletically. That is a big plus. She came in

:27:32. > :27:41.having done well at is born. That is important. You build confidence and

:27:42. > :27:47.victories. -- at Eastbourne. You get extra belief to come out here and

:27:48. > :27:53.play some of the biggest players. She will need that confidence today.

:27:54. > :27:59.Also, it is so much a mental game. Heather is bit. It is having that

:28:00. > :28:05.belief. Sometimes when you do not believe, the shots do not happen. I

:28:06. > :28:12.think the belief is at the surface and gets thrown out of you at times.

:28:13. > :28:18.She has done it here before. I am really interested in this match.

:28:19. > :28:24.She'd dropped way down out of the top 100. She brought in two new

:28:25. > :28:31.coaches. It has made a difference, hasn't it? Most athletes are not

:28:32. > :28:37.crazy about change, especially when you have had a lot of success like

:28:38. > :28:43.Heather. Dropping out of the top 100 means you are not in the slams

:28:44. > :28:48.anymore. That had a big impact. For Heather, she had hit the bottom.

:28:49. > :28:53.That is all to your window to make change be more open to new ideas.

:28:54. > :28:58.Maybe her coaches are saying the same as other coaches. You must

:28:59. > :29:05.listen. Heather did need to do a few different things. I think she is

:29:06. > :29:08.really listening and her practice sessions are getting more intense.

:29:09. > :29:12.The conditioning is getting better. She is in a fantastic place where

:29:13. > :29:17.things have been pretty awful with injuries. It could not get worse.

:29:18. > :29:24.That was her moment. Good on her for doing it. Not everyone would want to

:29:25. > :29:29.do that. After her last match, she said how big she was seeing the

:29:30. > :29:33.tennis ball. In the life good when that is happening? If any that was

:29:34. > :29:37.the case all the time. It is all a matter of how you cope with the

:29:38. > :29:42.situation when you're not seeing the ball that big. She will have to see

:29:43. > :29:48.it big today to win. I look forward to it for to build the good matchup.

:29:49. > :29:54.There they are, just waiting to on. Victoria Azarenka and Heather

:29:55. > :29:58.Watson. It is a long walk from the locker room. You want to get on with

:29:59. > :30:02.it. I did the walk with Andy Murray for that he said he started to doubt

:30:03. > :30:06.himself when he was walking but when he gets on the court, he starts

:30:07. > :30:13.believing and gets motivated again. The walk is not easy. It is a

:30:14. > :30:19.special walk. I have thought OK, I will turn around and you get so

:30:20. > :30:22.nervous. It is very special. One of the highlights for me was playing

:30:23. > :30:43.Steffi Graf it is very special. There they are on the court. We

:30:44. > :30:49.can't gloss over that, Kim, you were talking about playing Steffi out

:30:50. > :30:52.here, was that your special...? It was not here, but she was my idol

:30:53. > :30:58.and I admired her for many years when I was a child, her footwork, I

:30:59. > :31:02.try to imitate how she played. I was able to play her in her last

:31:03. > :31:08.Wimbledon, that was the highlight of my career. Wonderful. Look at that

:31:09. > :31:13.sky. Sam, this is unheard of. They are trying to water the courts at

:31:14. > :31:19.night but this is memories of 76, the drought year? About it is

:31:20. > :31:26.hardening it up, we really have that dry spell mid-June which hardened

:31:27. > :31:33.the courts. But did anybody tell Vika that it was hot, she came in

:31:34. > :31:37.her tracksuit?! She had a baby in December, it is

:31:38. > :31:41.only her second tournament, what do you read into that? Not much

:31:42. > :31:46.matchplay and her perspective has probably changed? You don't forget,

:31:47. > :31:52.you get out there and your habits are the same and physically it takes

:31:53. > :31:57.a little bit of time, mentally lots of things connect straightaway and

:31:58. > :32:02.it is almost like, at least for me, that I was not a way for that long.

:32:03. > :32:07.She is in a similar situation. Let's hear from Victoria Azarenka, we

:32:08. > :32:09.asked her about returning to the tour just six months after the birth

:32:10. > :32:19.of her first child. You have different chapters in the

:32:20. > :32:26.boot, and this is one of the chapters that is starting for me.

:32:27. > :32:31.On this performance, it looks like Victoria Azarenka has never been

:32:32. > :32:35.away. Do I have mummy brain or something now? I feel like now is a

:32:36. > :32:40.different chapter, for sure. Did you think you would be back playing so

:32:41. > :32:45.soon? I wasn't planning on playing Wimbledon, so I am very happy that I

:32:46. > :32:52.was able to get in shape and be able to play. I said anything before my

:32:53. > :32:57.actual start date is just a bonus to me, I am really happy I have been

:32:58. > :33:01.able to come here and keep winning. Are you the type of person to set

:33:02. > :33:06.goals and expectations going into a tournament, or maybe you were and

:33:07. > :33:11.now you are like, I am here, bring it on? I put high expectation on my

:33:12. > :33:15.efforts, being there and being prepared is important, but I need to

:33:16. > :33:25.be patient. It is not my best quality.

:33:26. > :33:28.But so far I have been enjoying myself and want to continue down the

:33:29. > :33:30.road. What a performance from Heather

:33:31. > :33:33.Watson. You have Heather Watson in the next round, does it make a

:33:34. > :33:36.difference playing a home player in a major tournament? I embrace it, it

:33:37. > :33:45.is a great opportunity to play on a big court. Hopefully I am up for it.

:33:46. > :33:49.She is certainly coming back on tour and really rejuvenated, she lost her

:33:50. > :33:54.first set against Sissy Bellas but has got better and better. You just

:33:55. > :34:00.play from memory. She is so experience?

:34:01. > :34:04.Very experienced. Every time she has played better and better, every set,

:34:05. > :34:11.getting more confident. We will see. She knows she will have to play well

:34:12. > :34:15.today, let's see if she steps up. There will be testing rallies, Sam?

:34:16. > :34:20.You talked about Heather absorbing the pace, it is about her not being

:34:21. > :34:25.pushed back from her baseline, if she is then it opens up all the

:34:26. > :34:31.angles for Vika and things can move along very quickly for Heather. The

:34:32. > :34:38.start is important, but not stepping back and spec -- and stepping

:34:39. > :34:41.forward. That is hard for Heather, she is more other counterpuncher. I

:34:42. > :34:44.would love to see her play with freedom, something she really

:34:45. > :34:48.struggles with, be free at the big moments. That has been part of the

:34:49. > :34:53.problem with the ranking over the last couple of years, big moments.

:34:54. > :34:59.Against Serena, we saw that she is likely stop the racket head. It is

:35:00. > :35:05.so hard to do. Easy to say, so hard to do. -- we saw that she slightly

:35:06. > :35:10.stopped the racket head. What do you tell yourself in those big moments,

:35:11. > :35:14.to stop being negative? Stop thinking it is a big moment is an

:35:15. > :35:20.important thing! She likes to attack early in the rallies, a tax return

:35:21. > :35:23.and the shot after the serve, Heather will have to try to do that

:35:24. > :35:32.as well, be more aggressive from the start of the rally. Heather has to

:35:33. > :35:36.go forward, you have to do that on grass, try and attack. That is what

:35:37. > :35:40.she said she has done in her first two matches. She wants to defend but

:35:41. > :35:47.she has is to try to be up to the baseline at least? It is not her

:35:48. > :35:51.hitting the cover of the ball, that is not her game. It is core to

:35:52. > :35:57.position the me. Heather has wonderful bodies, she needs

:35:58. > :35:59.opportunities to get up the net. In this grass court period,

:36:00. > :36:03.particularly at Eastbourne, Heather is serving far better than a couple

:36:04. > :36:10.of years ago. A little more powerful but lots more accurate. Her serving

:36:11. > :36:14.is outstanding in the first couple of rounds. She is hitting harder,

:36:15. > :36:19.which is giving her a good platform to get on the French vote for the

:36:20. > :36:25.first ball, holding serve a lot more easily. We'll see how she copes with

:36:26. > :36:31.an Azarenka return, I can't imagine what that is like. How tough is it?

:36:32. > :36:36.Sometimes you worry about it before you have hit your serve, you serve

:36:37. > :36:41.and you want to be in a position where you are ready to counterpunch.

:36:42. > :36:47.It becomes a mind game a lot of times. It is a very good return, one

:36:48. > :36:53.of the best with Serena. It is good that she has been improving her

:36:54. > :37:01.serve, it will be very necessary. So do you try serve towards the body,

:37:02. > :37:07.mix it up? Try to mix it up and use the body serve so you don't give her

:37:08. > :37:12.a good angle to go for. A high first serve percentage will be very

:37:13. > :37:17.important for any player, the first serve percentage has to be high.

:37:18. > :37:21.These two will be facing each other later in mixed doubles, and Heather

:37:22. > :37:26.Watson as defending champion, we forget. It was a great story last

:37:27. > :37:29.year, I followed it all the way through. That would have helped

:37:30. > :37:33.colleges keep the confidence going, the singles was not going well. This

:37:34. > :37:39.fairy tale emerged, that gives you a boost. Nadir papered over the cracks

:37:40. > :37:44.of what is happening with his singles career and it is only in the

:37:45. > :37:48.last few months that she has been falling off the diving board,

:37:49. > :37:55.literally, and done something about it. But it gives you more time.

:37:56. > :37:59.Isn't it nice that we are talking about a British player, we are not

:38:00. > :38:04.saying will she be all right, will she crumble? I have zero worries

:38:05. > :38:09.about Heather coping with this environment. She loves that. Won the

:38:10. > :38:13.mixed doubles. It is something in the mindset of coming back to the

:38:14. > :38:20.place where you feel happy and have done well? And you feel the support.

:38:21. > :38:25.I am from Belgium, not far, but for the British players it has to be

:38:26. > :38:30.something unique and so special to be able to play at home and to feel

:38:31. > :38:35.the support from the crowds. It is such a bonus to be able to use that

:38:36. > :38:42.energy. Do you recognise him? David Beckham sitting in the Royal box.

:38:43. > :38:46.Craig Reedy behind. It is such a special tournaments, everybody wants

:38:47. > :38:53.a ticket. When you are on this Court, do you look at the Royal box

:38:54. > :38:57.and see who is in? Of course! That is probably more intimidating than

:38:58. > :39:01.Serena. We had better make a move, they are about to play. Lovely to

:39:02. > :39:07.see you both, enjoy the match. I hope it is good. They are heading to

:39:08. > :39:17.the commentary box to join Chris Bradnam.

:39:18. > :39:29.CHRIS BRADNAM: very warm conditions, listen to the buzz around Centre

:39:30. > :39:32.Court. Heather Watson, an historic day for British tennis, can she do

:39:33. > :39:36.it against former world number one Victoria Azarenka? She has never

:39:37. > :39:40.beaten her before. But it is a long time ago. Azarenka won the spin of a

:39:41. > :41:55.coin and chose to receive. So sharp, straightaway. The sound is

:41:56. > :41:58.familiar. KIM CLIJSTERS: yes, it is. Lots of people always ask me does it

:41:59. > :42:02.bother you when you stand in front of somebody like Azarenka or

:42:03. > :42:09.Sharapova? As a player, I did not hear it.

:42:10. > :43:09.SAMANTHA SMITH: It is very early but, to me, Azarenka looks like she

:43:10. > :43:12.is picking up Heather's serve very easily. Her distribution of her

:43:13. > :43:26.ground strokes looks frightening at the moment.

:43:27. > :43:36.Serve has improved. It has, it will be very important to serve well

:43:37. > :43:52.today. She is facing one of the best returners in the women's game.

:43:53. > :44:37.Terrific! What a holds that is from 15-40.

:44:38. > :44:44.That'll help settle those early nerves. They had some really good

:44:45. > :44:50.rallies in the first game. Promising some good things for this match. You

:44:51. > :44:54.were number one in the world at 20, Heather Watson got her first top ten

:44:55. > :44:59.just two years ago. Where will the self belief come from in this match?

:45:00. > :45:03.She is playing at home, playing in front of this crowd where she has

:45:04. > :45:06.had amazing experiences, winning the mixed doubles last year, playing

:45:07. > :45:13.about unbelievable match against Serena. It is very easy to pick up

:45:14. > :45:52.your level and your confidence when you get to this Centre Court.

:45:53. > :46:21.A long look at the line from Heather, but no challenge.

:46:22. > :46:35.She saw the drop shots coming, but Azarenka picked the right side. Good

:46:36. > :46:39.eyes, there. We talk so much about Vika's ground strokes but we forget

:46:40. > :46:41.she is such a good doubles player as well, won the mixed doubles at the

:46:42. > :47:00.Olympics on this court in 2012. Maybe Azarenka, too. She had a

:47:01. > :47:08.little look at the Sun, probably trying to adjust. Averaging four

:47:09. > :47:09.double faults a match, both Azarenka and Heather. That is for this

:47:10. > :48:08.tournament. Talk is through that forehand, Sam?

:48:09. > :48:13.I think what was better was the face that Kim made when she saw it. That

:48:14. > :48:19.was heading into the Royal box if it kept going. David Beckham was

:48:20. > :48:23.cupping his hands again! If we are talking about Watson's nerves, I

:48:24. > :48:44.think Azarenka is much more uptight so far.

:48:45. > :48:50.Kim, what really surprised me when she came back is she has changed

:48:51. > :48:52.completely different make of racket, from one end of the spectrum to the

:48:53. > :49:10.other. Very surprising to me. Caroline Wozniacki did that a few

:49:11. > :49:13.years ago when she was playing really well, then changing rackets

:49:14. > :49:15.and just losing a little bit of the confidence and rhythm. We will see

:49:16. > :49:44.how SAMANTHA -- Vika does with it. The smiles seem to get wider, the

:49:45. > :50:04.points are won when somebody is at the net.

:50:05. > :50:14.What a beautiful sound that serve made. Mum Michelle, who has been

:50:15. > :50:21.hurt Vigurs support since they headed over from Guernsey to Florida

:50:22. > :50:22.when she was 12 -- who has been her biggest support. Her mum went with

:50:23. > :50:50.her. SUE BARKER: What a start from

:50:51. > :50:56.Heather, no sign of nerves and Centre Court. 3-0 up, we will be

:50:57. > :51:00.right back on centre. We can update you on Alijaz Bedene, who dropped

:51:01. > :51:04.the opening set in the tie-break to Gilles Muller. It is three games

:51:05. > :51:08.all, there has been one break apiece in the second set. That is the

:51:09. > :51:14.feature match on the red button. On Court three, Kei Nishikori is

:51:15. > :51:20.fighting hard, he has struck the first set to Roberto Bautista Agut.

:51:21. > :51:24.It is a second set tie-break. That is also available on the red button

:51:25. > :51:35.and BBC sport website. One from early today, Caroline

:51:36. > :51:41.Garcia, the 21st seed from France, has beaten Madison Brengle. A

:51:42. > :51:49.straight sets win for Garcia, 6-4, 6-3. She awaits the winner of Jo

:51:50. > :52:01.Konta or Maria Sakkari. Jo Konta on Court One later today. Bedene held

:52:02. > :52:05.serve, he is 4-3 up. COMMENTATOR: Azarenka looking to get

:52:06. > :52:46.on the scoreboard after 11 minutes at 0- three.

:52:47. > :52:54.Azarenka wanting the ball on one particular side. It can vary from

:52:55. > :52:57.match to match, sets to set. Do you have habits like that, Kim? Yes,

:52:58. > :53:51.whatever feels good on the day. I love the balance that she has on

:53:52. > :53:55.Court. When she moves, her upper body is still. Her legs move from

:53:56. > :54:00.side to side and her upper body does not go out of balance at all.

:54:01. > :54:12.Beautiful to see, especially from where we are sitting.

:54:13. > :54:47.Morgan Phillips. I think she read that ball toss a little bit. A

:54:48. > :54:50.little bit to the right, I think she anticipated there would be a serve

:54:51. > :55:36.outweighed and she reacted very quickly. -- a serve out wide.

:55:37. > :55:48.I don't want to jinx it but she has been serving very, very well so far.

:55:49. > :56:11.Eight from ten on her first serve, two from just four second serves.

:56:12. > :56:55.Hawk-Eye tells us that first serve was in. Really? Oh, yeah.

:56:56. > :56:59.I don't think you can be safe out here against Azarenka in the big

:57:00. > :57:18.moments. This entire tournament and the match

:57:19. > :57:24.so far, Heather has not served a single first delivery at the body. I

:57:25. > :57:27.just wonder if Azarenka will pick this up at some point. It is very

:57:28. > :57:37.accurate but there is a clear pattern.

:57:38. > :58:01.it up the impressive start continues.

:58:02. > :58:07.You have the record of being the last moment to win a Grand Slam.

:58:08. > :58:11.Azarenka gave birth to Leo in December, just December last year.

:58:12. > :58:16.Physically, what did you find you had to cope with coming back to

:58:17. > :58:21.play? One of the biggest differences with me compared to SAMANTHA SMITH:

:58:22. > :58:24.and Serena is I did not think I would come back, so I did not start

:58:25. > :58:29.training until after I had the baby. It was only a year later that I

:58:30. > :58:38.started playing tennis again. After I was invited to play here on Centre

:58:39. > :58:45.Court for the opening of the roof. I really had more time than they did.

:58:46. > :58:50.They needed to focus on recovery or getting ready for tennis couple of

:58:51. > :58:57.weeks after they had the baby. It is really hard for me to comment on how

:58:58. > :59:03.it was, I was not in that situation. Azarenka seems to be moving so well.

:59:04. > :59:09.Nothing has changed, it seems, from when she was last playing. The look,

:59:10. > :59:15.the determination. She always has the look of the Hunter, not the

:59:16. > :59:18.hunted. We always try to train our core stability, everyday that is

:59:19. > :59:20.what we do and something that you have to train very hard after a

:59:21. > :00:17.baby. So quick. She sees it very well, she

:00:18. > :00:23.anticipates well and then she has great feats to back it up. That's

:00:24. > :00:25.why she got there so early. Just a lot of very quick, light steps. She

:00:26. > :00:46.sees it so early. It is just beautiful. The way she

:00:47. > :00:58.stayed down on that. Is it in? It looked it.

:00:59. > :01:48.Come on. It is really strange to see Azarenka playing on court just over

:01:49. > :01:53.20 minutes. Normally, she gets is a -- she matches on her terms very

:01:54. > :02:03.quickly and she has not been able to do that this afternoon, and that is

:02:04. > :02:11.unusual. Self coaching needed on that forehand. She looked over at

:02:12. > :02:16.her coach for some help. It is an interesting matchup with Michael

:02:17. > :02:24.Joyce who worked with Maria Sharapova for some many years, he

:02:25. > :02:28.would have set in Maria's Players' Box when she was playing Vika, so he

:02:29. > :02:31.would have had all the notes on her and weaknesses and strengths. And he

:02:32. > :02:36.has not worked with anybody sense? It was working with a young American

:02:37. > :02:43.player for a couple of years and he wanted to stay -- to take a step

:02:44. > :02:46.back of the tour, he wanted to get in the big-time again and they lived

:02:47. > :02:50.near each other in LA. So geographically, it worked, which is

:02:51. > :03:24.important. Of course. I saw Vika and her coach practice on

:03:25. > :03:31.Aorangi Park a couple of times this week and he hits the ball very well.

:03:32. > :03:35.A good rhythm. He gets a lot of balls back. It looked like she was

:03:36. > :03:39.having fun but at the same time, working very hard in practice to get

:03:40. > :04:03.as much of a rhythm as she can. That is the return that she loves to

:04:04. > :04:07.hit, straight through the middle, back at you. When you just finished

:04:08. > :04:09.landing in the court with your serve, it is very tough to adjust to

:04:10. > :05:09.it. It is the first time we have seen

:05:10. > :05:39.some loose shots from Watson. Three more break points for Azarenka.

:05:40. > :05:55.That is a silencer. Azarenka regs back to love. -- breaks. Kim, the

:05:56. > :06:00.women's game at the moment is probably the most open it has ever

:06:01. > :06:05.been with Serena Williams expected. Self belief, the mental strength. It

:06:06. > :06:11.is up for so many in the locker room to win this title. Your thoughts on

:06:12. > :06:14.that, dealing with that? Yes, there are some girls like we saw at the

:06:15. > :06:19.French Open really use the opportunity, but there are also

:06:20. > :06:22.girls who put too much pressure, they put too much pressure on

:06:23. > :06:28.themselves. And they struggle dealing with it. So it is very

:06:29. > :06:33.interesting. In the last couple of days, EC a lot of the media do

:06:34. > :06:38.interviews and that is a question I get every time, who do you think

:06:39. > :06:43.will be standing after seven matches? It is very tough, there are

:06:44. > :06:46.a lot of players I'm really curious to see how they will cope and how

:06:47. > :06:51.they will react. And some I also think have a great chance but not a

:06:52. > :06:56.lot of people are talking about them. The side anybody, I'm very

:06:57. > :07:01.curious to see how this draw unfolds. -- just like anybody. Venus

:07:02. > :07:06.has a heavy burden on her shoulders, but she is the only one who has won

:07:07. > :07:11.this title. I thought she could really win coming into the

:07:12. > :07:19.tournament, but with the off court situation, it will teach -- it will

:07:20. > :07:25.take something, incredibly tough. I think you pick the least likely

:07:26. > :07:31.person and that is who I will put my 50p on! New balls in play, back on

:07:32. > :07:56.serve, Azarenka, 3-4. I feel this is the moment where

:07:57. > :08:00.Heather, the instinct and the default setting is to step back. It

:08:01. > :08:05.is the moment she has to step forward because Azarenka is getting

:08:06. > :08:10.better and better out here. Starting the press and play faster and

:08:11. > :08:16.pressurise, and take time away, say you can't breathe. That is what

:08:17. > :08:23.makes you of the press. You have to walk a very fine line. -- of the

:08:24. > :08:27.press. There is something special when you -- when you have beaten

:08:28. > :08:39.Serena Williams four times in finals. That is pretty special as

:08:40. > :08:45.well. Yes, it was. Azarenka has always been very good even when she

:08:46. > :08:50.is not playing her best tennis like she is now, she has not started well

:08:51. > :08:53.but she hangs in and she fights for each shot. When you lose your level

:08:54. > :08:59.of little bit, that is when she picks Herzog and tries to step over.

:09:00. > :09:23.-- she picks up. Errant ball boys chasing that one.

:09:24. > :09:26.That is when you say thank you! For Heather, obviously. Two more break

:09:27. > :09:49.points. Great length. Low over the net,

:09:50. > :09:59.hard. Watson is going to serve for the opening set.

:10:00. > :10:13.What a day for British tennis, four in the third round. The best for 20

:10:14. > :12:05.years. Slams her racket into the grass,

:12:06. > :12:12.Azarenka. Those numbers but right, they might just surprise some

:12:13. > :12:13.people. Yes, for sure. I think Heather doesn't have enough pace off

:12:14. > :12:37.the ground. These are the sort of points,

:12:38. > :12:43.remember these? Oh, yes, I do. This is where Azarenka is very good. She

:12:44. > :12:46.knows the targets, she has to hit the passing shot and without

:12:47. > :12:48.hesitation, she goes for it. I wonder if she will pick the serve up

:12:49. > :13:18.in the direction. That is a surprise mistake, to me.

:13:19. > :13:21.This match since the comeback. The memory is there, it is the doing it!

:13:22. > :13:53.Set point. What a fabulous set of tennis from

:13:54. > :13:57.Heather Watson! Quite a few standing here, I don't think they are just

:13:58. > :14:11.stretching their legs. 34 minutes, Watson is a setup. That is a really

:14:12. > :14:17.good start. Very good. Very positive from Heather. One of the biggest

:14:18. > :14:20.things to me is how well she has been serving. Obviously, she is

:14:21. > :14:30.moving really well and she is putting pressure on Vika. One of the

:14:31. > :14:34.things that I saw when I saw Vika for the first time practising here

:14:35. > :14:39.was that she looks leaner. I think she has lost a little bit of muscle

:14:40. > :14:47.since she has had a baby. And the power of her shots, they don't seem

:14:48. > :14:50.to be quite as powerful. I feel like she is very steady, she is

:14:51. > :14:56.consistent. Normally. But she always had that one extra shot where after

:14:57. > :15:01.a rally of six, seven shots, she was able to step in and hit the extra

:15:02. > :15:06.with a little more pace and I really don't feel like she has that back

:15:07. > :15:10.yet in her game plan. It will take time, but that is definitely the

:15:11. > :15:14.shot she is going to have to get back into her game. Also today, if

:15:15. > :15:26.she wants to break through the wall of Heather Watson. Yes. And unforced

:15:27. > :15:36.errors from Watson, just four. The winners, two more. Great set of

:15:37. > :15:39.stats. Azarenka has work to do to stay in the second set, the second

:15:40. > :15:43.time in the tournament having to come from a set behind to win. The

:15:44. > :16:33.former World Number 1. In tennis, we call that a good

:16:34. > :16:39.mistake! She went for it, she tried to attack the second serve. There is

:16:40. > :16:41.no need to get negative about this. You tell yourself, OK, this is a

:16:42. > :17:12.good mistake. The serve does look a little

:17:13. > :17:17.different technically, the style of it. Her feet seem a bit further

:17:18. > :17:25.apart, she is working on the cadence more. Yes, she has been off a little

:17:26. > :17:46.bit. Still looking for that rhythm and adjusting.

:17:47. > :17:55.She is so aware of what is happening with her serve, Azarenka, such a

:17:56. > :17:59.good matchwinner. A very accurate first serve and she got herself on

:18:00. > :18:03.top of the points. She wants to get dominating with these ground strokes

:18:04. > :18:21.and that changes the terms of engagement.

:18:22. > :18:50.It is fascinating watching the Azarenka on this come from. Soaking

:18:51. > :18:54.it all up again, back on the Centre Court. She is under pressure because

:18:55. > :19:03.I think when you came back, came, you played two tournaments and you

:19:04. > :19:05.won the US Open. Yes. They are all saying, thanks, ever so much. No

:19:06. > :21:10.pressure! With that return, she just pushed,

:21:11. > :21:17.Heather had to take two steps back. She tried to still be aggressive,

:21:18. > :21:20.but she overhit it a little bit. It is pretty tough to be aggressive

:21:21. > :21:22.from a couple of metres behind the baseline. That is what Azarenka does

:21:23. > :23:14.to you. The forehand is a little more

:23:15. > :23:18.unreliable, if you like. With that forehand, I think she did not even

:23:19. > :23:22.finish her shot completely and she was already moving back to the

:23:23. > :23:27.middle, knowing there was a shot coming into the". That is something

:23:28. > :23:32.you can't do, you have to finish a shot. She is quick enough to

:23:33. > :23:41.retrieve it. Challenging straightaway. But she is not very

:23:42. > :23:51.hopeful. It is something that we have seen, she just gets so a lot on

:23:52. > :23:55.her forehand. -- so locked. Is that a practice thing, is it believing in

:23:56. > :24:00.yourself to do what you need to do on the bigger points, pushing

:24:01. > :24:05.yourself through it? I also think in these type of moments, it is your

:24:06. > :24:18.habits. They can be good or bad, but sometimes, they come out.

:24:19. > :24:21.SUE BARKER: Were leaving Centre Court, this continues on BBC One. If

:24:22. > :24:28.you want to continue watching, switchover to BBC One. We are

:24:29. > :24:32.heading off to see Aljaz Bedene. But Kei Nishikori is in trouble against

:24:33. > :24:39.Roberto Bautista Agut and trailing by 2-0. But we are heading now the

:24:40. > :24:48.Court Number Two, Aljaz Bedene against the 16 seed and the

:24:49. > :24:52.left-hander Gilles Muller of Muller -- of Luxembourg. It is two games

:24:53. > :24:57.all, so let's join John Lloyd and Ronald McIntosh.

:24:58. > :25:09.Successive service aces to hold serve from Gilles Muller. Including

:25:10. > :26:08.one at 128 mph. His fastest of the match. Bedene serving, fifth game.

:26:09. > :26:19.Oh! He thought he had him there. Patient, well constructed point from

:26:20. > :26:24.Muller, just working his opponent around. When he gets that approach

:26:25. > :26:37.shot, the slice stays so low. Trouble here for Bedene.

:26:38. > :26:51.Big trouble now. Three break points. First time we have really seen

:26:52. > :27:19.frustration. He has kept calm even though he has been down.

:27:20. > :27:35.So he saved the first. Massive pressure on the Bedene serve. He has

:27:36. > :27:36.served a lot of aces today, Bedene. Some good lines. But he needs a

:27:37. > :27:55.couple now. And unforced error from the backhand

:27:56. > :28:16.makes it a tame surrender of serve. So Muller in a really commending

:28:17. > :28:21.position now, two sets to love up, a break to the good point And if

:28:22. > :28:28.Bedene hopes the progress through to the fourth round, he has to force it

:28:29. > :28:35.to a deciding set. Not yet has he had to come back from a two sets to

:28:36. > :28:40.love deficit, massive challenge facing the Bedene now. He has looked

:28:41. > :28:45.a bit fatigued today and a bit lately. There has been evidenced in

:28:46. > :28:47.some of the shots he has tried off the court, looking for winners

:28:48. > :28:54.instead of getting back into the rally. He has not looked quite

:28:55. > :28:58.right. He is fighting, he is of a writer and he has tried desperately,

:28:59. > :29:02.but he is just not there today. There have been too many

:29:03. > :29:06.combinations playing one or two good points and two or three bad errors

:29:07. > :29:11.in a row, he throws them in bunches. And I don't think Muller has played

:29:12. > :29:15.his best match but he has been mentally tough up on the big points

:29:16. > :29:20.when it comes down to it. Competitiveness and battling have

:29:21. > :29:24.been the hallmarks of this match so far, but it has not sought to great

:29:25. > :29:31.heights of consistent tennis. Both men fighting furiously but Muller

:29:32. > :29:34.heart is number of unforced errors between the first and second sets.

:29:35. > :29:38.He is serving to consolidate the break he has just won inset number

:29:39. > :30:15.three, leading 3-2. Until the second set, where Muller

:30:16. > :30:19.broke Bedene in the 11th game, the trend was for service breaks one way

:30:20. > :30:24.to be followed up by a service break on the other side of the net. Bedene

:30:25. > :30:32.is desperate for that trend to return. Excellent Court coverage at

:30:33. > :31:09.the net. UMPIRE: Mr Muller challenges the

:31:10. > :31:15.call. The ball was called in. He elected to let its sale over his

:31:16. > :31:20.shoulder and now he is going up on the services of Hawk-Eye. And look

:31:21. > :31:35.at that. UMPIRE: Mr Muller has two challenges remaining.

:31:36. > :32:14.Muller has used the chance already. He is looking long and hard at the

:32:15. > :32:25.line after that serve was called out. Two remaining.

:32:26. > :32:35.Bedene is mad at himself. We have seen lots of that with him today,

:32:36. > :32:36.second serves when it is right in his hitting zone, and then just

:32:37. > :33:04.making an error. Bedene consolidates the break --

:33:05. > :33:26.Muller consolidates the break. Bedene really has to dig deeper.

:33:27. > :33:32.Surfing, trailing a break, 2-4, third set. -- serving macro,

:33:33. > :33:47.trailing a break. Did well to get that out of the way.

:33:48. > :34:20.It came into his body. Good footwork. That inside out forehand.

:34:21. > :35:39.Muller continuing to turn the screw. And pose questions.

:35:40. > :35:54.Oh, well played! Once again for the third time in the match, Bedene has

:35:55. > :35:58.lost his footing. He went over but managed to regain

:35:59. > :36:09.his balance. He was not perturbed by it. That was a huge point as well.

:36:10. > :36:11.He did well. Good effort. No change in his demeanour, but a

:36:12. > :36:37.good hold of serve from Bedene. Well, there is the magnificent

:36:38. > :36:44.splendour of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The British players are

:36:45. > :36:47.enjoying their best showing here since 1997, the year five British

:36:48. > :36:58.players made it through to the third round. In 2017 we have four of them.

:36:59. > :37:02.On Centre Court, Heather Watson in her third-round match against

:37:03. > :37:09.Azarenka. Later, Murray competing on Court Number One. That is the room

:37:10. > :37:14.and a construction to the top of the screen. Johanna Konta will be

:37:15. > :37:21.playing there. Here on Court two, as we tilt down, we are at the bottom

:37:22. > :37:32.end of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Court number two. Bedene is

:37:33. > :37:37.battling ferociously to try to make it through to the fourth round. The

:37:38. > :37:42.last time Great Britain had multiple representation in the fourth round

:37:43. > :37:43.was in 2002 when Tim Henman reached the semifinals and Greg Rusedski

:37:44. > :38:04.lost in the fourth round. So tough to read that serve. He

:38:05. > :38:10.swung back down, outweighed on left court. It can also go to the

:38:11. > :38:31.forehand side very comfortably. The same ball toss.

:38:32. > :38:37.We have seen that a couple of times with Bedene not moving up to the

:38:38. > :38:41.ball, waiting for the ball to come to him, as he did there, and then

:38:42. > :38:50.lunch at the last second and mis-hits the ball. If you cracks in

:38:51. > :38:52.what has been an otherwise impeccable facade from Bedene. -- a

:38:53. > :39:34.a few cracks. So Bedene faces the prospect of

:39:35. > :40:05.serving to stay in Wimbledon. Terrific passing shot from behind

:40:06. > :40:19.baseline. See how though he got on that

:40:20. > :40:40.passing shot. -- see how low he got. You can be sure that he will not

:40:41. > :41:54.give it up without a fight. So deep in the baseline, he was off

:41:55. > :41:57.court and then goes for a clean winner down the line instead of

:41:58. > :42:02.getting a bad crosscourt. His shot selection today has not been great.

:42:03. > :42:08.-- instead of getting it back across court.

:42:09. > :42:36.The crowd really encouraging the efforts of Bedene.

:42:37. > :42:51.We talked about what a terrific tournament it has been from a

:42:52. > :42:55.British perspective, but Muller, the only man from Luxembourg to have

:42:56. > :43:01.competed in a Grand Slam tournament in the open era stop you have to go

:43:02. > :43:08.way back to the 1940s to find another man from Luxembourg to have

:43:09. > :43:13.competed at a Grand Slam event. That was at Roland Garros. But this man's

:43:14. > :43:19.temperament has remained rock solid throughout. A couple of outbursts

:43:20. > :43:24.when things were not going his way bet he got it back and increase the

:43:25. > :43:30.solidity is the match went on. Is such a good year this year. He has

:43:31. > :43:35.won two titles, it breeds confidence, you feel confident in

:43:36. > :43:41.what you are going to do, when you need to, at crucial times. That is

:43:42. > :43:46.what he has done today. A very close match, but on crucial point is this

:43:47. > :43:53.man has come through. He made it through to the semifinal at Queen's.

:43:54. > :43:57.A rousing reception for the players as they take up their positions for

:43:58. > :44:08.this tenth game, Muller serving for the match.

:44:09. > :45:07.He has used that serve to terrific effect throughout this match.

:45:08. > :45:19.Oh, that's outrageous. Serve for the match, 15-15 and you hit a second

:45:20. > :45:23.serve ace like that. This is just tremendous. He is going, seriously?!

:45:24. > :45:25.You will not even let me have a chance to have a go at that second

:45:26. > :46:28.serve? And what a way to close it out, the

:46:29. > :46:34.19th game of the match for Shiel mother, it sees him through to the

:46:35. > :46:40.fourth round of Wimbledon. -- for Gilles Muller. Muller found a

:46:41. > :46:44.greater solidity, along with some moments of magic. He makes it

:46:45. > :46:52.through to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time in his

:46:53. > :46:57.career. Bedene battled LaRoche is Lee, tried to overcome the bad

:46:58. > :47:04.patches. But ultimately he has been beaten in straight sets here, on

:47:05. > :47:11.this his fifth appearance at Wimbledon. One that he will remember

:47:12. > :47:19.for a very long time. It is his best ever showing at SW19, Bedene, but

:47:20. > :47:30.this man, Muller, goes through to the fourth round. Bedene exits Court

:47:31. > :47:34.number two, and the tournament. But Muller had a superb performance to

:47:35. > :47:43.go through to the fourth round where he will face the winner of Nadal and

:47:44. > :47:48.Khachanov. SUE BARKER: He has been in such good form in this grass

:47:49. > :47:53.court season, winning in her top and Bosch and getting through to the

:47:54. > :47:57.semifinals of Queen. We knew he would be a tricky opponent on the

:47:58. > :48:01.grass court. But Alijaz Bedene had a very good Wimbledon, a couple of

:48:02. > :48:07.very good wins prior to today. Muller goes through on Court two.

:48:08. > :48:10.Just to let you know on BBC round at the moment, we are following Heather

:48:11. > :48:14.Watson on Centre Court against Victoria Azarenka. She took the

:48:15. > :48:19.first set but the former world number one has come storming back

:48:20. > :48:24.and is serving for the second at 5-1. That match is on BBC One, it

:48:25. > :48:30.could be another 3-set thriller. We have had a few of those on Centre

:48:31. > :48:34.Court. On Court Number One, this happens a

:48:35. > :48:41.short time ago. Steve Johnson diving into the chairs. He really has been

:48:42. > :48:49.given the runaround by Marin Cilic. Look at this, that is commitment,

:48:50. > :48:55.that is like Boris Becker. He goes in and he hits the chair. It

:48:56. > :48:59.is a brave thing to do. He was a little bit worried about what

:49:00. > :49:04.happened so he called the train onto the court to make sure everything

:49:05. > :49:11.was OK with that hand. -- called the trainer. There is a doctor. I am

:49:12. > :49:15.sure -- making sure he has the feeling in it. You can see his

:49:16. > :49:18.grazed knee, he has been throwing himself around the courts.

:49:19. > :49:26.This is the current state of the match at the moment, 6-4, 5-3, Marin

:49:27. > :49:30.Cilic is serving for the second set. That match is on the red button.

:49:31. > :49:37.The feature match on the red button is out on court 12, Dominica Sybil

:49:38. > :49:45.Colbert, a two-time quarterfinalist, she has just dropped the first set

:49:46. > :49:49.to the Croatian, who was a quarterfinalist last year at the US

:49:50. > :49:54.Open. She is the youngest player left in the draw, the 27th seed, and

:49:55. > :49:59.causing an upset. That is the feature match on the red button.

:50:00. > :50:05.We will head to court 34 Kei Nishikori against Roberto Bautista

:50:06. > :50:11.Agut. We have been talking about the number of balls and slips at

:50:12. > :50:17.Wimbledon. The hot weather making the courts very slippery. That was a

:50:18. > :50:22.very nasty fall for Bautista Agut. This is what we are seeing so much,

:50:23. > :50:26.the players struggling with the conditions. This natural surface,

:50:27. > :50:33.the grass, it is quite brown on the baseline. The pimples they have on

:50:34. > :50:39.their shoes are not giving any grip at all. That happened a short time

:50:40. > :50:48.ago. On Court three, Kei Nishikori is two sets to love down but is a

:50:49. > :50:52.break and he is serving... In fact, facing a break point against

:50:53. > :50:59.Bautista Agut. Let's join our commentators, Peter Fleming and

:51:00. > :51:05.Andrew Cotter. COMMENTATOR: From 30- 02 break point. -- from 30-0, two

:51:06. > :51:27.break point. Nishikori's shotmaking has become

:51:28. > :51:31.just that bit more insightful over the last couple of games. The number

:51:32. > :52:04.of games in this match that have gone to deuce

:52:05. > :52:18.It is long! Bautista Agut did so much work chasing down, the final

:52:19. > :52:24.touch was heavy-handed. The backhand feathered over the net. What an

:52:25. > :52:28.amazing shot from the Spaniard! It's covered a lot of ground. This might

:52:29. > :52:32.have been the easiest shot he had the whole rally. Set point four Kei

:52:33. > :52:43.Nishikori. There it is. The support and cycled

:52:44. > :52:51.three for the Japanese number nine seed is huge. -- the support inside

:52:52. > :52:57.court three. He has a way back to the match. So inaccurate for so much

:52:58. > :53:03.of it. His inability to convert break points, a couple of days ago

:53:04. > :53:07.eventually took his tenth break point opportunity. -- a couple of

:53:08. > :53:12.games ago. That is why he just trailed by a single set. It has been

:53:13. > :53:17.a long and close affair but as the trainer comes on two seater Roberto

:53:18. > :53:22.Bautista Agut, even though he trails by a set you would fancy Kei

:53:23. > :53:30.Nishikori? No question that Nishikori has been very tentative

:53:31. > :53:32.throughout most of this match. You can see Nishikori going off for a

:53:33. > :53:47.comfort break. Only in the last half a set has he

:53:48. > :53:53.almost said, well, my back is to the wall, I need to come up with

:53:54. > :54:01.something special. The 19 winners in September three, far more than in

:54:02. > :54:05.any others, that is the first set when he had a positive when it

:54:06. > :54:11.Ostara ratio. Nishikori is throwing in a huge number of mistakes, but

:54:12. > :54:17.has some good winners. Bautista Agut is a more conservative style game,

:54:18. > :54:22.not too many winners at all. Not many errors. But she was not doing

:54:23. > :54:29.much in that said, Roberto Bautista Agut. -- but he was not. The points

:54:30. > :54:34.won on second server is always a good barometer of how each player,

:54:35. > :54:44.or how effective each player is from the back of the court. Nishikori 53

:54:45. > :54:49.to 27% for Bautista Agut. There is a decided swing in momentum, you would

:54:50. > :54:55.have to say, towards the Japanese star. Kei Nishikori has been to a

:54:56. > :54:58.Grand Slam final, lost that US Open final to Marin Cilic three months

:54:59. > :55:03.ago. He is not with us at the moment, he is off court three. At

:55:04. > :55:09.Wimbledon he has not been beyond the last 16, neither of these players

:55:10. > :55:20.has. You can go whenever you want is the answer. When can I go to the

:55:21. > :55:24.toilet? Just stick your hand up and ask the teacher! Lots of jewellery

:55:25. > :55:31.going on with that -- with Roberto Bautista Agut. Sergio Garcia was

:55:32. > :55:37.watching his friend, he has departed to the comforts of the Royal box.

:55:38. > :55:42.Bautista Agut took the first set, then the second set. Nishikori's

:55:43. > :55:47.body language was awful, he has not had a great season, has had a few

:55:48. > :55:53.injuries and looked like he might be heading down and out, but right back

:55:54. > :56:01.in it now. And the difference was in set number three. He made some of

:56:02. > :56:09.the aggressive shots that he attempted, in sets one anti he was

:56:10. > :56:15.spraying balls all over the place. -- in sets one and two. Sometimes

:56:16. > :56:20.the best thing that can happen is your back is to the wall and you

:56:21. > :56:29.just lose any inhibitions that you might have heard earlier. Kei

:56:30. > :56:33.Nishikori, over the last five years or so, has been one of the great

:56:34. > :56:41.shot makers in the game. He can hit winners from anywhere, he chases

:56:42. > :56:44.down so many balls, as both players do. Bautista Agut is also an

:56:45. > :56:50.incredible mover around the back of the court. Kei Nishikori is

:56:51. > :56:57.refreshed and ready to go, a new shirt. He has reset things. He has

:56:58. > :57:02.said, I am just a set down now, you almost feel he might be a different

:57:03. > :57:08.player. There is Michael Chang, the former Grand Slam champion, French

:57:09. > :57:16.Open champion is a 17-year-old, he coaches Kei Nishikori. Agut served

:57:17. > :57:35.to stop the set. -- start the set. That is the third very high lob he

:57:36. > :58:10.has taken out of the air. Neither player has had any cheap

:58:11. > :58:14.service games where they have risen too. There might have been a couple

:58:15. > :58:31.in the match. Everyone of them has been a bit of struggle, really.

:58:32. > :58:39.There have been a few of those from Nishikori. Only the second from

:58:40. > :58:40.Bautista Agut. Just four from Nishikori. The Spaniard has been

:58:41. > :59:14.pretty tidy on serve. He is starting to roll! A different

:59:15. > :59:17.player now. There is that conversion rate, pretty poor from both of them

:59:18. > :59:28.but two break points for Kei Nishikori.

:59:29. > :59:37.Finishes it off. Kei Nishikori breaks through right at the start of

:59:38. > :59:48.this fourth set. May well be heading for five. Peter, you are talking

:59:49. > :59:55.about Nishikori's ability over five sets, he is pretty useful? Pretty

:59:56. > :00:01.useful if you say the greatest of all time is reasonable. That is

:00:02. > :00:08.reasonable. It is an incredible statistic. You are the greatest of

:00:09. > :00:11.all time. Who else is included in that? Everybody. Bjorn Borg, Rob

:00:12. > :00:16.Lever, and he has the best record over five sets. He has won 16 of

:00:17. > :00:28.them. I believe that is over a final set.

:00:29. > :00:52.Yes. But Roberto Bautista Agut will be

:00:53. > :00:59.able to remind himself. Still 2-1 up. Do what I did in the first

:01:00. > :01:45.couple of sets and Nishikori's level may dip.

:01:46. > :02:11.And Roberto Bautista Agut just abandoning the chase on that one.

:02:12. > :02:19.He is a bit outnumbered in support out here, Bautista Agut. But there

:02:20. > :02:44.are a few cries. He moves so well. He was still in a

:02:45. > :02:47.good position to hit that forehand. So impressive the way both these

:02:48. > :03:11.guys get around the court. Down again. He is all right. He just

:03:12. > :03:16.felt his wrist this time, bracing himself as he went down. Again, he

:03:17. > :03:23.did not injure himself, but he landed pretty hard on his knee. And

:03:24. > :03:35.these courts, they are solid after a dry spell. They are brick hard. It

:03:36. > :03:41.was on the wrist. So ultimately, the hold for Nishikori. A long match,

:03:42. > :03:49.just over three sets, almost three hours. They don't have many short

:03:50. > :04:28.points. A number of the Games have been drawn-out affairs.

:04:29. > :04:36.That last error from Nishikori is so disappointing because when you have

:04:37. > :04:40.got the momentum behind you, you want to get to a point where you

:04:41. > :04:49.feel you are running downhill and everything is just easy. Just sort

:04:50. > :05:02.of snaps you back. Into reality. It is still going to be hard work.

:05:03. > :05:11.So Roberto Bautista Agut Basques for Hawk-Eye to step in again. And he

:05:12. > :05:36.was right again to do so. He throws in his third double of the

:05:37. > :06:03.match. A good stretch and a nice place for

:06:04. > :06:25.him to cross-court. That is a good touch from the

:06:26. > :06:34.Spaniard and he does hold. And who remains just a break behind.

:06:35. > :06:41.He's got a few supporters in here, as mentioned. He had a famous

:06:42. > :06:50.supporter here at the start of the match. This was Sergio leaving with

:06:51. > :06:57.his famous government. Danny Willett was here with it last year and

:06:58. > :07:04.Sergio this year. -- his famous Green Jacket. Famous sports people

:07:05. > :07:10.in here today. You get to take it around for a year and then it stays

:07:11. > :07:13.at the club in Augusta. Really? They don't like you taking it out too

:07:14. > :07:22.much, but for places like Wimbledon, they make allowances. Anyway, Garcia

:07:23. > :07:27.has left. Bautista Agut was looking good point Since then, Nishikori has

:07:28. > :07:37.come back into it. A special call will be put into Centre Court. So it

:07:38. > :07:43.is not his smoking jacket in the weekly poker games or anything? !

:07:44. > :07:49.That would be frowned upon. SUE BARKER: We believe that much, it

:07:50. > :07:55.continues on the red button, we will go to Court Number One and Marin

:07:56. > :07:58.Cilic is involved in a second set tie-break against Steve Johnson.

:07:59. > :08:02.Great tennis and is much. Jamie Baker is alongside Nick Mullins. --

:08:03. > :08:15.great tennis in this match. You might be thinking he ought to be

:08:16. > :08:20.two sets to the good, Marin Cilic, having missed out on the opportunity

:08:21. > :08:21.to serve for it early in the second set. Steve Johnson has fought hard

:08:22. > :09:03.to earn this tie-break. Frustration for the Californian,

:09:04. > :09:05.Jamie, who fended off three set points in the previous game to take

:09:06. > :09:36.us to the shoot out. Yes, Marin Cilic, it really was

:09:37. > :09:42.one-way traffic. Johnson taking advantage of missed volleys at

:09:43. > :09:45.crucial moments when Cilic was serving for the set. He will be

:09:46. > :09:50.disappointed at the start he has made to this tie-break. Cilic

:09:51. > :10:04.watched by his coach, Bjorkman. That is one of the many breaks

:10:05. > :10:49.slipping through the net. I think the body language and the

:10:50. > :10:50.cry of frustration suggests that he has not got a lot of money on this

:10:51. > :11:08.being in his favour. Quarterfinalist in each of the last

:11:09. > :11:35.three years, Marin Cilic. Johnson has done so well, Jamie, to

:11:36. > :11:40.keep this second set alive. He had a really nasty fall into his chair

:11:41. > :11:45.midway through it and hurt his finger, and he looked as though he

:11:46. > :11:50.was down and out. Just that determination that it would not end

:11:51. > :11:57.here. Yes, the crowd really lifted their energy, responding to this. A

:11:58. > :11:58.fightback. At 5-2, you right, with a sore hand from the full, it didn't

:11:59. > :12:30.look good for Johnson. Another challenge, he has two in his

:12:31. > :12:49.pocket, he might as well use them. Three challenges in each set. They

:12:50. > :12:51.keep them if they are successful and they get an extra challenge if it

:12:52. > :14:01.goes to a tie-break, as this has. That is his 13th of the match. One

:14:02. > :14:06.of which was walloped down at 133 mph, his fastest of the tournament

:14:07. > :14:16.so far. And it brings up more set points. And more pressure for

:14:17. > :14:31.Johnson, once again serving to stay in the second set.

:14:32. > :14:39.It is Cilic's set, and one of the dot courses this fortnight. If it is

:14:40. > :14:43.not the big four, plenty think it might be Cilic and he has had to

:14:44. > :14:55.work hard to establish this lead on Court Number One.

:14:56. > :15:04.Took longer than it might have done, Jamie, longer than it should have

:15:05. > :15:07.done. Those service percentage point is dropping off significantly from

:15:08. > :15:14.what we saw in the first set. Yes, they did. And you can see the

:15:15. > :15:19.domination of the match pattern is coming from Cilic. He is more

:15:20. > :15:26.dominant on his serve and total winners of 90 against Johnson seven.

:15:27. > :15:30.Cilic having the ability to hit winners both ways, whereas Johnson

:15:31. > :15:38.only has that opportunity off his forehand. The story was from 5-2

:15:39. > :15:43.until the end, where Cilic kind of linked concentration wise out of

:15:44. > :15:47.nowhere with those couple of missed volleys serving for the set. The

:15:48. > :15:50.only slight regret from Steve Johnson from that set will be the

:15:51. > :15:55.first four or five points to tie-break because he had the chance

:15:56. > :16:02.to really as gay question of Cilic and it didn't quite materialise. --

:16:03. > :16:12.he really had the chance to ask the question. Court Number One without a

:16:13. > :16:24.lead. Another lovely day here at Wimbledon. The first Friday of the

:16:25. > :16:35.Championships. It has been dubbed the wok. Cilic on the shop floor

:16:36. > :16:40.early, he wants to get on this. Steve Johnson with all the work to

:16:41. > :16:42.do. He has to come from two sets down against one of the favourites,

:16:43. > :17:07.the number seven seed, Marin Cilic. He is not to be rushed. One or two

:17:08. > :17:18.late, is finding their seeds. -- late, is -- late arrivals finding

:17:19. > :17:22.their seeds. The 27-year-old Californian from Redondo Beach, just

:17:23. > :17:24.outside the world's top 30. He is ranked 31 and he is here as a seed

:17:25. > :19:03.for the first time, the 26th seed. Oh, yes! The big man on the stretch,

:19:04. > :19:18.still not enough to get back from Johnson. I was just about to applaud

:19:19. > :19:22.this shot from Marin Cilic, the inside out backhand, but Johnson is

:19:23. > :19:30.known for his skilful squash shot and that has to be one of his best.

:19:31. > :19:35.Apparently, there is nothing wrong with that right wrist, we were

:19:36. > :19:39.wondering about that, the one that collided with his chair rather

:19:40. > :19:44.painfully. But if he can produce shots like that, he is OK. Love- one

:19:45. > :20:19.at the start of the third, Cilic. Made his way past a couple of

:20:20. > :20:21.Germans to get here, Philip Kohlschreiber and Florian Meyer. But

:20:22. > :20:58.a bit more challenging on Wednesday. Steve Johnson's coach. Craig

:20:59. > :21:28.Boynton. Still providing encouragement.

:21:29. > :21:32.That's just equalled his fastest serve of the tournament from early

:21:33. > :22:33.in this match, 133 mph. How well has he played?! In the face

:22:34. > :22:37.of cannibals. Good anticipation from Johnson and Cilic only has himself

:22:38. > :23:08.to play. He closed that backhand down very well. -- to blame.

:23:09. > :23:13.For the second time in this match, the mighty Cilic serve has been

:23:14. > :23:31.snapped. You will not see many double handed

:23:32. > :23:39.backhand is from Steve Johnson, but a winner down the line, what a time

:23:40. > :23:43.to produce it! And two breaks out of Cilic's last three service games.

:23:44. > :23:45.Although he won the tie-break, there has been a sea change in the match

:23:46. > :24:14.over the last 20, 25 minutes. Johnson dropped just a set reaching

:24:15. > :24:23.this third round. Both these players last on Court

:24:24. > :25:10.hours ago. -- 48 hours ago. On Simona Halep Mr Johnson is

:25:11. > :25:18.challenging the call. The ball was called out. -- UMPIRE: Mr Johnson is

:25:19. > :25:33.challenging the call. Mr Johnson has two challenges

:25:34. > :25:44.remaining. Handing that break of serve back rather tamely.

:25:45. > :25:59.Having broken the Cilic serve, Johnson's goes on the blink. We were

:26:00. > :26:03.talking of Steve Johnson a little earlier in the match, Jamie, and

:26:04. > :26:06.help the sport is providing such a welcome and warm and comforting

:26:07. > :26:10.distraction at the moment to what has happened to him over the last

:26:11. > :26:17.couple of months. His dad Steve senior died in his sleep in May.

:26:18. > :26:23.Only 58, and he introduced his son to the sport and he travelled around

:26:24. > :26:29.the tour with him. They were close and we saw those pictures at Roland

:26:30. > :26:33.Garros when he beat on a charity on the clay at the French Open and when

:26:34. > :26:38.he won the final point, he collapsed in tears, weeping that the net. It

:26:39. > :26:44.all got too much for him, as you totally understand. You imagine the

:26:45. > :26:49.effort it took emotionally to be on court. But I have no doubt his

:26:50. > :26:54.appearance not only at Roland Garros but throughout the grass and here at

:26:55. > :27:01.Wimbledon is a result of what he would have expected his father, of

:27:02. > :27:04.what he would be doing to make his dad and the rest of his family

:27:05. > :27:14.proud. And he is doing himself a credit to be here, enjoying such a

:27:15. > :27:27.big occasion like this. At the biggest tournaments in the world.

:27:28. > :27:32.And when he won that final point against Coric, he knew that is dad

:27:33. > :27:39.was looking down, giving him the energy to get over the line. Here he

:27:40. > :27:44.is at Wimbledon in a tussle with one of the men who might go on to win

:27:45. > :28:10.it. We will see. Marin Cilic back on serve in this set, 1-2.

:28:11. > :28:16.A final point on that, it shows you how important the role of the

:28:17. > :28:22.travelling tour coach can be at times. You never know what an

:28:23. > :28:25.individual player is going through at different times, but often the

:28:26. > :29:16.person they lean on the most is the person they are travelling with.

:29:17. > :29:24.131 miles per hour. The 15th ace, he has moved beyond 60 for the

:29:25. > :30:27.tournament. Cilic in prime grass court form on

:30:28. > :30:35.the way to Wimbledon. He reached the final at Queen's. He should have won

:30:36. > :30:39.it. He had match point against Lopez and went down 10-8 in the third set

:30:40. > :31:28.tie-break. After a difficult start to the year

:31:29. > :31:35.for Cilic, this form coming here has been very impressive. He has

:31:36. > :32:12.definitely a dark horse to cause the favourites some trouble.

:32:13. > :32:52.UMPIRE: Mr Johnson is challenging the call. The ball was called in.

:32:53. > :33:18.UMPIRE: Mr Johnson has one challenge remaining.

:33:19. > :33:29.Well understandable frustration for Steve Johnson. He had let a winning

:33:30. > :33:33.position in this third set slip and it is now Cilic with his nose ahead,

:33:34. > :33:51.3-2. A wonderful hum around this

:33:52. > :33:59.open-topped No 1 Court. The roof will be on by 20.19. Steve Johnson,

:34:00. > :34:03.pitching for a place in the fourth round and the second week of this

:34:04. > :34:08.Grand Slam for the second time in his career. He was in good form on

:34:09. > :34:11.grass this time last year. He had just won the Nottingham tournament

:34:12. > :34:17.and he made to it the last 16, before he ran into Roger Federer.

:34:18. > :34:22.But he has got what it fakes. He has got the -- he has got what it takes.

:34:23. > :34:29.It is just that consistency that he is going to have to try and find to

:34:30. > :34:34.derail the Croat here. The way the last five or ten minutes have gone,

:34:35. > :34:40.it does look like he might be reflecting on this later at those

:34:41. > :34:43.moments at the end of the second set and the beginning of the third set,

:34:44. > :34:49.where he had an opportunity to level the match and also got the first

:34:50. > :34:51.break in this third set. But it's turned against him again in the last

:34:52. > :35:16.10 minutes. A little volley at the net not quite

:35:17. > :35:22.good enough from the man who looks at life from six foot six. It looks

:35:23. > :35:26.like a couple of those missed volleys from Cilic has missed his

:35:27. > :35:28.confidence. For the first hour we were admiring his touch around the

:35:29. > :36:00.net. A lot of success up there. UMPIRE: Mr Johnson is challenging

:36:01. > :36:03.the call. The ball was called out. That sliced backhand has been his

:36:04. > :36:09.stock-in-trade in this match, trying to keep the ball as low as possible.

:36:10. > :36:17.But that one just falling off the table. UMPIRE: Mr Johnson has no

:36:18. > :38:06.challenges remaining. You can hear just how hard Johnson

:38:07. > :38:48.worked to get to that ball, but not quite enough!

:38:49. > :38:57.He found his touch at just the right point towards the end of that game.

:38:58. > :39:09.He has underlined the break of serve. Consistently impressive here

:39:10. > :39:13.in the last three years, Cilic, quarter final, quarter final,

:39:14. > :39:17.quarter-final. Might have been a semi-final last summer. Should have

:39:18. > :39:19.been a semi-final. He was two sets to the good against Roger Federer.

:39:20. > :40:45.Lost in five in the end. He doesn't hit many backhand

:40:46. > :40:47.winners, but that is an important point and may well keep him in this

:40:48. > :42:50.match for a bit longer. Steve Johnson's dad always taught

:42:51. > :43:16.him to fight. Oh! Steve senior, always said, never

:43:17. > :43:28.give up son, whatever the position, never give up! And his son isn't. It

:43:29. > :43:46.is all starting to get a bit too much for him again. Oh, my goodness.

:43:47. > :43:53.You know athletes go through so much to perform at this level week in,

:43:54. > :43:56.week out and they go through things like injuries, which they all go

:43:57. > :44:02.through. But to be doing what he is doing on a stage like this, having

:44:03. > :44:09.gone what he has gone through, Jamie, goodness me. Just shows you

:44:10. > :44:12.how difficult it is. You can imagine Steve junior growing up, saying,

:44:13. > :44:17.come on son, we are going to get to Wimbledon. You can imagine probably

:44:18. > :44:24.the cheer from the crowd spurring him on on that last moment. You can

:44:25. > :44:26.imagine that type of memory bringing it back. It is upsetting to watch,

:44:27. > :44:58.actually. Here we go. Marin Cilic still with a

:44:59. > :45:01.break of serve in this Setaimata Sa -- set against the American, Steve

:45:02. > :46:39.Johnson. And another at 125mph. That serve

:46:40. > :46:42.wasn't firing on all cylinders. In his second round win, but when he

:46:43. > :46:46.comes back to reflect on this performance, I think the serve looks

:46:47. > :46:51.to be in pretty decent nick at the moment. Yes, especially the first

:46:52. > :46:54.two sets up until the game at 5-3, where he served for the second set.

:46:55. > :47:09.He dialled in very quickly. This is Steve Johnson fighting once

:47:10. > :47:10.more to stay in this year's Wimbledon, to stay in this third

:47:11. > :49:25.set. Well he is still in there - for

:49:26. > :49:31.himself and for others. And next time Cilic wanders out, he will be

:49:32. > :49:48.serving for a place in the fourth round of this year's Wimbledon.

:49:49. > :49:55.Looking at how emotion he is, it shows you what an amazing effort it

:49:56. > :50:01.has been for him over the last few months to win all the matches he

:50:02. > :50:03.has. Think of how tough a sport tennis is. He is really fighting to

:50:04. > :50:21.keep his mind on the court. Now the challenge for Cilic, he will

:50:22. > :50:26.understand the situation, he knows what Steve Johnson's going through,

:50:27. > :50:31.but he has got business to attend to and Steve Johnson will understand

:50:32. > :50:35.that too and Cilic's next job is to win the points that will win him a

:50:36. > :50:47.place in the second week of this year's Championships.

:50:48. > :50:53.The world No 6, seeded 7, one of the dark horses, one of those who may

:50:54. > :52:58.well win it if it is not one of the usual four.

:52:59. > :53:24.UMPIRE: Game, set, match, Cilic. Cilic is the winner. But everybody's

:53:25. > :53:38.heart here at Wimbledon right now goes out to Steve Johnson. And that

:53:39. > :53:49.is nice from Cilic. He absolutely gets this. It is a muted celebration

:53:50. > :53:51.at him taking his place in the fourth round with absolute respect

:53:52. > :54:03.for his opponent and what his opponent is going through right now.

:54:04. > :54:12.But he played well. All of those clever so and sos who might have had

:54:13. > :54:16.a couple of euros on him to win this away from the big four, will be

:54:17. > :54:21.think, yeah, he is doing all right. He is building nicely and he is into

:54:22. > :54:25.the point where it matters. Yes definitely and he is slightly under

:54:26. > :54:30.the radar. Certainly anyone who watched the first hour or so will be

:54:31. > :54:34.thinking absolutely this guy has picked up where he left off at

:54:35. > :54:41.Queen's. Losing that final without dropping serve. He was very unlucky

:54:42. > :54:45.in that match. And he is into the fourth round with not much fuss and

:54:46. > :54:49.he is used to winning big matches here. Three years in a row,

:54:50. > :54:56.quarter-final. I'm sure he will be wanting to go one better, having had

:54:57. > :55:10.that opportunity last year. Well done Steve Johnson. Let's listen to

:55:11. > :55:17.the ovation for both of the players. Croatia has had one winner of the

:55:18. > :55:23.men's singles Championship, I am sure you can name him. Who was that?

:55:24. > :55:30.That was another big bloke and he was his coach until a few months

:55:31. > :55:35.ago, Goran Ivanisevic. He knows how to win Grand Slams. He knows how to

:55:36. > :55:41.go all the way to win seven matches on the biggest stage of all, having

:55:42. > :55:49.done the job of course in New York a few years back. And he has been a

:55:50. > :55:55.regular in the quarter-finals over the last three years. One more win

:55:56. > :56:11.away from another quarter-final in 2017. And he will play by the way

:56:12. > :56:26.the 18th seed, Roberto Agusta Agut. The ninth seed has lost, Kei

:56:27. > :56:33.Nishikori, it will be Bautista Agut. And Marin Cilic is about to talk. We

:56:34. > :56:37.knew it would be a big battle, but a lot of finesse and I imagine you're

:56:38. > :56:42.delighted how quickly you could get through the match. Yes, absolutely,

:56:43. > :56:47.definitely, a good match and Steve played quite well today and in that

:56:48. > :56:52.second set he was a break up and he came up and left me with a tricky to

:56:53. > :56:56.close out that second set and that changed a bit the momentum of the

:56:57. > :56:59.match. He started to play better towards the beginning of third set

:57:00. > :57:05.and he had a break. But I managed to just raise a bit my game and in

:57:06. > :57:08.those moments Steve wasn't serving as good, so it gave me some chances.

:57:09. > :57:13.But I took them and played well until the end. Not sure how aware

:57:14. > :57:19.you were of his emotional state. He has been through a lot with the loss

:57:20. > :57:24.of his father and still in points he was getting emotional. Could you

:57:25. > :57:30.tell that? No I was focussed on myself, but also in the end I saw

:57:31. > :57:35.that he was emotional and really sorry for his loss and you know he

:57:36. > :57:39.is one of nicest guys on the tour and really very tough for him. But I

:57:40. > :57:43.wish him all the best for the rest of the year. You played so well at

:57:44. > :57:48.Queen's and in the Netherlands and here, how confident are you feeling

:57:49. > :57:51.on this surface? Feeling very confident, playing very well, these

:57:52. > :57:56.three matches I wan in straight sets. That is good for my confidence

:57:57. > :58:01.and I'm serving good and also today I had a lot of points on my first

:58:02. > :58:06.serve. I hope I can continue with that good form and go into the

:58:07. > :58:09.second week of Wimbledon, which is definitely a great thing and the

:58:10. > :58:18.matches are going to get tougher. So I will try to get ready. Your next

:58:19. > :58:23.opponent is Bautista Agut. You have beaten him twice. How dangerous is

:58:24. > :58:27.he going to be on grass? Very dangerous. He is not the classic

:58:28. > :58:32.Spanish player that we are used to seeing, he plays a lot of flat balls

:58:33. > :58:37.and likes to play on hard court and on grass and a big win for him

:58:38. > :58:46.today. Definitely I have to get ready as good as I can. Well done

:58:47. > :58:51.thank you. We know the serving is working well, what about the

:58:52. > :58:55.movement, which you were watching? At six foot six, you get a different

:58:56. > :58:59.perspective. But it is something he has to think about? Yes an

:59:00. > :59:04.interesting point, because the very top players in the world, the top

:59:05. > :59:07.four or five will look at Cilic's movement to say that is something I

:59:08. > :59:11.can exploit. They're right about that. However, #i679 is not a

:59:12. > :59:16.question you can just say I'm going to move him around the court and

:59:17. > :59:21.that will create a lot of errors. That is why he is as good as he is.

:59:22. > :59:28.It is not as much of a factor for the players who are not the top four

:59:29. > :59:38.or five in the world. Next up on this court if you want to stay with

:59:39. > :59:45.us, it is Jo Konta against Maria Sakkari. We are going to do a change

:59:46. > :59:49.over. While I make way for John, Jamie, tell us what Cilic is going

:59:50. > :59:55.to have to do to win this to beat the big four and become Wimbledon

:59:56. > :00:00.champion? Does he have to the game or will he need some fortune? It is

:00:01. > :00:05.a bit of both I think. It is clear he is very dominant on his serve and

:00:06. > :00:13.you can see from the numbers, 81% of points won behind the first serve.

:00:14. > :00:18.If his first serve percentage is higher, he will be tough to beat. We

:00:19. > :00:24.saw how difficult that was in the first hour. He is in an era of some

:00:25. > :00:29.fantastic players, three of the greatest of all time still playing

:00:30. > :00:32.and that is not even mentioning the two time champion, Andy Murray.

:00:33. > :00:37.Sometimes to win these big tournaments you need a bit of luck.

:00:38. > :00:40.But Cilic is not one of the big four or five names, but he has won a

:00:41. > :00:54.Grand Slam. Thanks to Jamie Baker and Nick

:00:55. > :00:59.Mullins, as authoritative of the court is Marin Cilic was on it. And

:01:00. > :01:06.Tracy Austin is going to join me in the commentary box now. As we see

:01:07. > :01:14.almost like a painting, that sky. It doesn't look like a real Skype, that

:01:15. > :01:19.is graphically enhanced. Obviously half of Court One have bailed out

:01:20. > :01:24.for a break after the last match. But those here giving a hearty

:01:25. > :01:34.welcome to Maria Sakkari, of Greece, and British number one Jo Konta.

:01:35. > :01:41.This is something that I'm sure we will talk about a great deal, the

:01:42. > :01:45.Tracy Austin, however -- oh over however long it will be. It is

:01:46. > :01:51.amazing how players can go from cannon fodder and they can come in

:01:52. > :01:56.eight and people say, room for improvement, to suddenly being on

:01:57. > :01:59.the podium and contenders. Jo Konta, in the last couple of years, her

:02:00. > :02:09.life has been transformed. It really has. It is really something that I'm

:02:10. > :02:12.full of respect for Jo in recognising what her weaknesses

:02:13. > :02:17.were. Probably the biggest was the mental portion of the game. She had

:02:18. > :02:22.the fundamentals, a good athlete. Good strokes. Which is started

:02:23. > :02:27.working with a mental coach a couple of years ago and that made all the

:02:28. > :02:32.difference for her to stay calm and clear in big moments in matches.

:02:33. > :02:39.When you watch Jo Konta playing three years ago, when she was ranked

:02:40. > :02:42.130, 140. I remember being down at Eastbourne and people said she was

:02:43. > :02:46.the latest in a line of players who will get you a couple of rounds now

:02:47. > :02:51.and again and people will say she is in that strata of players where the

:02:52. > :02:55.ceiling is a very clearly defined point beyond which she can't go. Did

:02:56. > :02:58.you think watching her play three years ago that she could break

:02:59. > :03:03.through the ceiling or has it come as a bit of a surprise to everybody?

:03:04. > :03:07.Three years ago, I have to say I was not watching her because she was

:03:08. > :03:12.ranked outside the top 130 and I didn't know a lot of about her. When

:03:13. > :03:16.I started hearing about Jo, I was learning that there was a lot going

:03:17. > :03:20.on underneath the surface. She was trying to contain the emotions.

:03:21. > :03:25.Sometimes, they would get the best of her closing out a match. As she

:03:26. > :03:34.continued to work with her mental coach and as she says her process,

:03:35. > :03:40.she got better. SUE BARKER: Thanks to Tracy and

:03:41. > :03:43.John, Jo Konta on Court 4 her third-round match against Maria

:03:44. > :03:50.Sakkari. And we will move this to BBC One so that will move to BBC

:03:51. > :03:58.One. Here, we will go to Centre Court for Rafael Nadal against this

:03:59. > :04:07.very talented youngster from Russia. It is Andrew Castle courtside. So

:04:08. > :04:16.Rafa Nadal in the bright sunshine after beating Millman and Don Young.

:04:17. > :04:21.Look at these schools. Straight sets every step of the way. 25

:04:22. > :04:29.consecutive sets he has won in Grand Slams, having just offended his

:04:30. > :04:34.French Open crown. Quite simply the phenomenal Rafa. A ten French Open.

:04:35. > :04:39.Nobody got to five in a set against him, let alone take into a tie-break

:04:40. > :04:45.when a set. So who is he playing against? A 21-year-old making his

:04:46. > :04:50.debut. Ranked 34th in the world and he has some grass court form,

:04:51. > :04:58.although not much. Seeded at number 30. Because of grass court price. At

:04:59. > :05:03.a career-high, one of this next generation you will hear a lot

:05:04. > :05:08.about. The youngest man in eight years to reach the French Open

:05:09. > :05:13.fourth round. And at Roland Garros commie he beat Tomas Berdych, he

:05:14. > :05:21.beat John Isner. Before losing to Andy Murray in a good match. So this

:05:22. > :05:27.is a man in form and he is young, six foot six. And he's dangerous.

:05:28. > :05:33.And I think this could be one of the matches of the week in the men's

:05:34. > :05:42.draw. He had to go the distance in round one so he is battle hardened.

:05:43. > :05:44.In 2015 and 2016, Khachanov fails to come through the qualifying, which

:05:45. > :05:48.tells you everything you need to know about the qualifying at

:05:49. > :05:54.Roehampton. He's got his place into this main draw by virtue of ranking.

:05:55. > :06:02.And he is seeded as a debut player at Wimbledon. The magnificent umpire

:06:03. > :06:09.in the chair, in the bright sunshine. He will enjoy the sense of

:06:10. > :06:14.theatre the Centre Court brings on another hot summer's day at the end

:06:15. > :06:18.of the week. A lot has been made about these grass courts at

:06:19. > :06:21.Wimbledon. Quite a lot of nonsense has been talked. It is a natural

:06:22. > :06:28.playing surface and the treatment of these courts has to reflect the

:06:29. > :06:33.conditions prevalent in the week. It has been boiling hot, it is quite

:06:34. > :06:37.simple. The grass wilts and it can die if it doesn't get the drink it

:06:38. > :06:41.needs and if the temperatures don't come down a little bit. At the end

:06:42. > :06:47.of the week, the grass courts like us, they need a bit of a rest and

:06:48. > :06:52.plenty to drink! They are OK. This court is beautifully prepared. It

:06:53. > :06:57.will take 13 days of play without any problem at all. The on court

:06:58. > :07:04.temperature before the first match today was 40 Celsius. Earlier this

:07:05. > :07:12.morning, that roof was pulled across. And the temperature inside

:07:13. > :07:18.here was 22 degrees. That was a controlled 22 Celsius. So the grass

:07:19. > :07:23.got a bit of a rest. On Court Number One, the temperature at the same

:07:24. > :07:28.time as it was 22 degrees and controlled was 34 Celsius, so it got

:07:29. > :07:32.a couple of hours of just resting. It is a living organism and the

:07:33. > :07:37.people that look after this court, the head groundsman who looks after

:07:38. > :07:42.Centre Court specifically for the championship while Neil runs around

:07:43. > :07:48.everywhere else, they love this court. To have a question in any way

:07:49. > :07:56.is not fair and it is not accurate either. So the playing conditions

:07:57. > :08:02.change so much. Over the course of the championship. It is quite a test

:08:03. > :08:03.apart from these other Grand Slams. Certainly a different test and

:08:04. > :08:36.different requirements. So Karen Khachanov, I have to check

:08:37. > :08:46.the pronunciation! A recent semi finalist in Halle. A first tour

:08:47. > :08:52.level appearance on grass in Halle, where he beat Giles Simon, which is

:08:53. > :08:57.always a great test, and world Junior champion. We looked down at

:08:58. > :09:00.another week in this great city and these two great sporting arenas.

:09:01. > :09:10.Court Number One will have a roof over the top in 2019. The

:09:11. > :09:16.retractable roof has not been used this week so far. Nadal and

:09:17. > :09:25.Khachanov, third-round match. I can't wait for this. Karen Khachanov

:09:26. > :09:31.won the task and he elected to receive. Rafa Nadal took plenty of

:09:32. > :09:36.time here making sure his fingers were taped up nicely and a bottle

:09:37. > :09:42.tops were screwed on just enough and the bottles placed in exactly the

:09:43. > :09:47.right place. By the chairs. And he had a bit of an issue against Donald

:09:48. > :09:54.Young when some taping came away and he had some splits in the fingers.

:09:55. > :09:58.He just won seven straight matches in straight sets in the French Open.

:09:59. > :10:07.Just an extraordinary performance each time and it will be quite some

:10:08. > :10:14.time before we see it again. You know you have made it when you have

:10:15. > :10:27.got your name on your shoes! It is going to have to be a big shoot to

:10:28. > :10:31.get Karen Khachanov on. -- a big. Tim Henman has joined me in the

:10:32. > :10:35.commentary box. Or he might have just joined us from the shower

:10:36. > :10:41.cubicle! How are you, everything all right? It is a little on the hot

:10:42. > :10:46.side, especially wearing a suit and a tie. Well, you look lovely. Right,

:10:47. > :11:40.0-0. Just to stay on the heat, there are

:11:41. > :11:43.a couple of new sensors, four around Centre Court. Yesterday, it was 43

:11:44. > :12:09.Celsius out on the grass. Khachanov elected to receive.

:12:10. > :12:13.Settling into his first contest on Centre Court, he might have thought,

:12:14. > :12:17.I will have a look at the Nadal serve first rather than see my serve

:12:18. > :12:51.under threat through nerves, potentially.

:12:52. > :13:02.UMPIRE: Game, Nadal. I was just saying before you arrived in here,

:13:03. > :13:10.and you sort of poured in to the commentary box! 25 consecutive

:13:11. > :13:14.completed slams in a row, Nadal has completed. The French Open was a

:13:15. > :13:19.phenomenal performance and what a feeling the break. This might be his

:13:20. > :13:24.least favourite service because his knees struggling a bit, but he still

:13:25. > :13:30.won it twice and he was in five finals. Amazing record. When he gets

:13:31. > :13:33.on a roll, he is so good. All these players are looking to get that

:13:34. > :13:37.confidence and away you get confidence is from winning matches.

:13:38. > :13:39.The way Rafer played at the French, only losing 34 games, incredible

:13:40. > :14:01.statistics. Oh, yes. Five straight points,

:14:02. > :14:06.Nadal, against Khachanov. You will see a lot of this boy in the years

:14:07. > :14:10.to come. He hits the ball superbly. But when it comes to know how, we

:14:11. > :14:36.will find out a little bit about him today.

:14:37. > :14:50.Nadal just easing into the match. In the sixth gear straight off.

:14:51. > :14:59.103 mph, on a forehand. Finally, four minutes in, Khachanov picks up

:15:00. > :15:46.a point. Rafa has a massive power on the

:15:47. > :15:52.forehand, but where he is very effective is changing the pace. He

:15:53. > :15:56.has good slice. A lot of the players like the consistent pace. Rafa's

:15:57. > :16:19.change creating the unforced error. Yet again, as Tim Henman is saying,

:16:20. > :16:30.the change of pace, a floated ball with slice down the line brings the

:16:31. > :16:34.error, great start from Nadal. He has just wandered over to our

:16:35. > :16:43.commentary position here. He is built like a shed. What a sight is

:16:44. > :17:03.to be playing against! On a hot day, a big stage. Break of serve to him.

:17:04. > :17:08.You have got change of pace from the back of the court, but when Nadal

:17:09. > :17:12.gets the short ball on the forehand committee is not scared of moving

:17:13. > :17:16.forward after it. He did not need to hit a volley because the forehand

:17:17. > :17:50.was so big. When he gets to the net, he is in a good position.

:17:51. > :17:58.109 mph, second serve. You get the feeling that Nadal is seeing and

:17:59. > :18:00.feeling the ball pretty well. He loves these hot conditions. It is a

:18:01. > :18:23.cool day in Majorca for him. The umpire knows where every ball

:18:24. > :18:54.is. Definitely an unforced error. Ball

:18:55. > :18:55.boys and ball girls working very hard in this weather. They do

:18:56. > :20:05.shifts. He is over hitting at the moment.

:20:06. > :20:14.Khachanov. You can't blame him, he is responding to Nadal's ferocious

:20:15. > :20:22.hitting. He is 3-0 down. So what do you make of Khachanov? People talk

:20:23. > :20:25.about him being the real deal, part of the next generation. Sascha

:20:26. > :20:32.Zverev of Germany leads that, and a number of others including Medvedev,

:20:33. > :20:37.who has been naughty this weekend with the coins. How do you rate this

:20:38. > :20:43.young man? We will see a lot more of him in the years to come, he is a

:20:44. > :20:50.probably, big game, modern-day player. Big serve, big forehand, big

:20:51. > :20:53.backhand. Showing probably a little bit of inexperience here. He made

:20:54. > :21:00.six unforced errors in the first three games with no winners. A tough

:21:01. > :21:06.start. Not easy when your opponent comes out playing as well as Nadal.

:21:07. > :21:09.His father played volleyball to a very high level and studied

:21:10. > :21:15.medicine. His mother studied medicine as well. A smart guy. And

:21:16. > :21:21.despite being just 21, he is married. To Veronica, last November.

:21:22. > :21:32.His ranking flying up in the right direction. That is the opponents

:21:33. > :21:42.today for Rafael Nadal. A great all-black. Dan Carter. He will be

:21:43. > :21:43.watching tomorrow as the All Blacks play against the Lions in their

:21:44. > :23:22.third match. That is not the way I was taught to

:23:23. > :23:24.do a forehand! Oh, boy! Just look at this racket head speed. The

:23:25. > :23:36.physicality behind it. It is wonderful to watch. 97 mph forehand.

:23:37. > :23:42.Poor Khachanov, he has not hit any winners so far. Slightly worrying

:23:43. > :23:46.when you hit the ball as hard as he does and you still have not hit a

:23:47. > :23:53.winner. It says something about Nadal's defence. At this moment

:23:54. > :23:56.comically say on your first visit to Centre Court, can we start again?

:23:57. > :24:16.Yes, about the ball toss! Just replay that 30 minutes when you

:24:17. > :24:22.want to see Rafa Nadal at his best. Khachanov has hit no winners and he

:24:23. > :24:30.hit sit at a million and one mile per hour. On the other hand, Nadal,

:24:31. > :25:06.he has hit seven. He has made hardly a mistake. 4-0 in double quick time.

:25:07. > :26:40.It is certainly not what we expected having got the double break to go up

:26:41. > :27:15.4-0. No. A break to love and Karen Khachanov,

:27:16. > :27:23.who lives in Dubai and it is a ration of Armenian descent, he is up

:27:24. > :27:30.and running. -- he is a Russian. Not a man to be easily intimidated, at

:27:31. > :27:41.six tall. This time best year, he was ranked about 100 -- six but six.

:27:42. > :27:45.By the end of the year, he was 53 in the world, now 54. He has won

:27:46. > :27:51.matches on the grass and is number 30 in the seeding. I think people

:27:52. > :27:57.from 16 to 32 should not be seeded and we would have better men's

:27:58. > :28:02.matches in the first two rounds as a result, discuss. I have got to agree

:28:03. > :28:06.with you. When you put those 17, 32 in the draw, it livens things up and

:28:07. > :28:12.it creates great matchups early in the tournament. With all due

:28:13. > :28:17.respect, it if you are the 27th seed, it is going down too far. I

:28:18. > :28:21.don't necessarily think you deserve that protection. That is why some of

:28:22. > :28:24.the players are playing longer because there is greater protection

:28:25. > :28:29.if you win a couple of rounds and you beat lower ranked players, you

:28:30. > :28:33.are maintaining your rankings because you receive pretty good

:28:34. > :28:38.points in the Grand Slams and the Masters Series. If it came to it, my

:28:39. > :28:47.opinion would be 16 seeds in the slams. This is the second match of

:28:48. > :28:53.three on Centre Court. Third-round match as people set in, Andy Murray

:28:54. > :28:58.after this against Fabio Fognini. That should be a great match. It is

:28:59. > :30:40.1- for here. Gar, Obviously hasn't been the best

:30:41. > :30:46.of starts for Khachanov and with a serve it is 130mph, it is not great

:30:47. > :31:44.when you have only one two of 13 points.

:31:45. > :31:56.So many breaks of serve in this very odd first set. The first 13 or 14

:31:57. > :31:59.minutes were all Nadal. But then he lost his serve to love and now he

:32:00. > :33:05.has broken again. Khachanov will have to make some

:33:06. > :33:11.serious adjustments going into the second set you would have thought.

:33:12. > :33:30.Wow! The forehand whipped down the line. Nadal holds serve and takes

:33:31. > :33:35.the first set comfortably, 6-1. STUDIO: Rafa marching on. He has not

:33:36. > :33:47.dropped a set yet. We will be back in a moment. But on court No 1 this

:33:48. > :33:58.match on BBC One and Jo Konta is 4-2 up over Maria Sakkari of Greece. A

:33:59. > :34:02.few results to bring you. Disappointment for Heather Watson,

:34:03. > :34:10.defeated by Victoria Azarenka. A terrific match, but Victoria

:34:11. > :34:16.Azarenka took the third set 6-4. But it was a wonderful tournament for

:34:17. > :34:20.Heather Watson. But the former No 1 looks like she is getting back to

:34:21. > :34:28.her best form. We saw some of this match earlier and it did go to

:34:29. > :34:38.Bautista Agut, putting out Kei Nishikori in four sets. Another

:34:39. > :34:47.disappointing Wimbledon for Kei Nishikori. And the seventh seed

:34:48. > :34:54.Marin Cilic is through against Steve Johnson of the United States in

:34:55. > :34:57.straight sets. Cilic is through and will face Bautista Agut in the

:34:58. > :35:11.fourth round on Monday. And this match is overon court No 2.

:35:12. > :35:19.You can see it on the red button. Simona Halep has taken the first set

:35:20. > :35:29.and a mini-break in the second set tie-break. We will keep you

:35:30. > :35:33.up-to-date. But now back to Centre. COMMENTATOR: What an important first

:35:34. > :35:41.game this is for Karen Khachanov, who is a real star in the making. He

:35:42. > :35:45.is flying up the rankings, only 21, just full of beans, but he didn't

:35:46. > :35:52.hold serve in the first set and he didn't hit a winner. And he has got

:35:53. > :36:00.a massive serve. And huge ground strokes, he is quick and smart. So

:36:01. > :36:06.has he made the adjustments necessary? Serving with new tennis

:36:07. > :36:28.pals which in theory help the servers. -- tennis balls.

:36:29. > :36:37.What are you going to do? The honest answer to that is he has got to

:36:38. > :36:42.start making more first serves to try and get a bit more offensive in

:36:43. > :36:44.the rallies when he is hitting second serves, Nadal is getting on

:36:45. > :37:15.top. At the moment, and it can change,

:37:16. > :37:23.this is a lesson you can't buy anywhere else. Because this what is

:37:24. > :37:24.Khachanov is aiming for - virtual perfection and the possibility of

:37:25. > :37:57.being a Grand Slam winner. That doesn't count as his first

:37:58. > :38:15.winner, because it just caught the racket.

:38:16. > :38:23.That is away. The passing shot down the line, Khachanov managed to get

:38:24. > :38:29.down. It is down on the official statistics as a winner. Definitely

:38:30. > :38:36.not. They got generous. Come on, he hasn't got one.

:38:37. > :39:07.Mark a couple of double faults up while you're at it!

:39:08. > :39:44.That is the perfect reaction from Khachanov there. Good.

:39:45. > :39:50.For me that backhand is Nadal's biggest improvement this year. He

:39:51. > :39:53.seems to be taking the ball earlier and hitting it flatter and more

:39:54. > :40:52.aggressively. It's taken almost half a hour, but

:40:53. > :41:01.Khachanov might be about to hold serve. Well done, Sir. On the stroke

:41:02. > :41:09.of 30 minutes he has managed to get one. Galo Blanco is his coach. He

:41:10. > :41:15.was a quarter-finalist at the French Open. He has coached a number of

:41:16. > :41:22.players. He was with Raonic for a while and world June -- junior

:41:23. > :41:26.champion. This guy, people talk very highly of him. I thought that

:41:27. > :41:30.reaction in that first game when he was down, a big come on, it is

:41:31. > :41:52.showing Nadal, hey, I am here to play.

:41:53. > :42:48.So much for the time taken between points, Tim.

:42:49. > :42:56.The pace of play is what we are talking about, 20 seconds between

:42:57. > :43:01.points and there is somebody who something about it, Sergio Garcia.

:43:02. > :43:07.Is that his master's green jacket? Certainly is! Oh, quality! That is

:43:08. > :43:20.nice. I think we had Danny Willett here

:43:21. > :43:26.last year wearing his. Did he? And they only give you one. If you lose

:43:27. > :43:31.it, that it is it. You're only allowed to wear it outsite Augusta

:43:32. > :43:42.when you're the champion. Is that right? Would you feel just a little

:43:43. > :43:48.bit self conscious wearing your Masters green jacket. No, I think I

:43:49. > :43:51.have won that. You're coming here, Royal Box. Worse places you could be

:43:52. > :44:10.wearing it! Sergio was always quick to play

:44:11. > :44:17.golf. They hate slow play in the pros. One time he was struggling

:44:18. > :44:35.with regriping and he got over that as well. Very keen tennis player.

:44:36. > :45:44.That is a good example of turning defence into attack.

:45:45. > :46:05.Oh, down and OK. I'm OK, just stop hitting winners past me! Certainly

:46:06. > :46:09.gets a bit dry and dusty behind the corporates as they get warm --

:46:10. > :46:34.courts as they get warm. The left foot gave way. Not the ideal time.

:46:35. > :46:39.UMPIRE: Many Khachanov challenging the call, the ball is called out.

:46:40. > :47:08.The call stands. UMPIRE: Mr Khachanov has two

:47:09. > :47:33.challenges remaining. That caught the line I think. There

:47:34. > :47:39.was a little... Puff of chalk. You never know with these ones. Had such

:47:40. > :47:43.a lot of work on it. Top-spin bringing it in. That is what you

:47:44. > :48:26.have got to do to save a break point?

:48:27. > :49:50.UMPIRE: Mr Nadal has two challenges remaining.

:49:51. > :49:55.It is important that Khachanov keeps his nose in front in this set,

:49:56. > :50:36.serving first. It is almost as if when Nadal plays

:50:37. > :50:41.that slice, Nash November not -- Khachanov not giving it the respect

:50:42. > :50:44.it deserves. Making more and more unforced errors. Up to 16 in just

:50:45. > :50:59.this early part of the second set. Settled into that nice rhythm that

:51:00. > :51:28.we know he has. At least on the serve. Coach Blanco is there.

:51:29. > :51:37.It is the cumulative effect of being jabbed in the ribs for 40 minutes or

:51:38. > :51:46.so, you eventually start making mistakes you wouldn't dream of

:51:47. > :51:47.making on a practice court or against lesser players. You feel

:51:48. > :52:00.like you have to go for too much. And it is a break of serve. A

:52:01. > :52:05.valiant effort from Khachanov, but hard to see how he is going to break

:52:06. > :52:14.through against Nadal in this sort of form. He has certainly got a big

:52:15. > :52:19.future, irrespective of the result of today's match, but in today's

:52:20. > :52:25.confrontation, you wonder whether there is any plan B. What does he

:52:26. > :52:28.need to add to his game? Maybe a backhand slice. Do something

:52:29. > :52:37.different. Perhaps a serve and volley. Does he have these

:52:38. > :52:41.abilities? He has huge weapons, he is serving 134, he hits the ball

:52:42. > :52:50.heavy. But it has to be consistent. You can't be out here against any

:52:51. > :52:59.players and make 18 unforced errors in ten games. Nearly three a game.

:53:00. > :53:05.So certainly he has to look at the consistency while maintaining those

:53:06. > :53:10.big weapons. He defeated Kuznetsov in the first round. This is a

:53:11. > :53:15.Wimbledon debut for him. So he has done well to get to the third round.

:53:16. > :53:21.He beat Montero in a tough four-setter. The match with

:53:22. > :53:29.Kuznetsov was his first career five-set victory. He had lost one in

:53:30. > :53:32.a Davis Cup match. Everybody in place enjoying the entertainment

:53:33. > :53:40.here on Centre Court. Rafael Nadal now. Andy Murray is coming up

:53:41. > :53:45.against Fabio Fognini. It is a losable match against somebody he

:53:46. > :53:57.has lost to three times. Although not on grass it has to be said. That

:53:58. > :54:00.is later. Nadal now. UMPIRE: Try to keep your voices down. The umpire

:54:01. > :55:39.conducting affairs here. Soiled way to emphasise the break

:55:40. > :55:42.there. Got an early lead, Nadal, and he wants to make sure he keeps the

:55:43. > :56:39.pressure on his opponent. This is one way of holding serve!

:56:40. > :56:56.Bang down three aces! Make that four! LAUGHTER. That is a rare feat.

:56:57. > :57:04.Just mention that he was in the fourth round of the French Open, his

:57:05. > :57:09.best Grand Slam to date, this 21-year-old, Khachanov. Not many

:57:10. > :57:14.players younger who have got to that point. Trying to reach the fourth

:57:15. > :57:20.round of Wimbledon. Just four men in the last decade have reached the

:57:21. > :57:32.last 14 in their first apeeshs. Appearance. . He is not out of this

:57:33. > :57:36.set. He has to look up at the scoreboard and say, I'm just a

:57:37. > :57:46.couple of big hits. He has broken serve once. He knows he can do that.

:57:47. > :57:50.Nadal is serving well, but he is not like a huge server. He has got to

:57:51. > :57:55.look to take opportunities when he sees second serves and you have got

:57:56. > :58:07.to cut out the unforced errors and still maintain that aggression.

:58:08. > :58:13.A little bit of cloud cover now. That we didn't have earlier.

:58:14. > :58:18.Certainly not affecting comfort levels, in fact improving them

:58:19. > :58:24.probably. Out of the direct sun light. 4.30 on a Friday afternoon,

:58:25. > :58:28.UK time and Rafael Nadal on Centre Court again. Not something that we

:58:29. > :58:33.have taken for granted over the last few years. A wrist injury last year.

:58:34. > :58:36.We thought might keep him out. But here he is back and seemingly as

:58:37. > :00:48.strong as ever. David Beckham with verse. At Queen's

:00:49. > :02:39.Club as well. -- with us. Nadal leads 4-2, second set. He is

:02:40. > :02:46.certainly known for taking his time between points but this much is

:02:47. > :02:58.going quickly. Time for an afternoon... Just a quick siesta.

:02:59. > :03:03.If he can sleep through this match and the Murray match, we should

:03:04. > :03:06.leave him here overnight. If anyone knows who that is... Top-class

:03:07. > :03:24.lunch. He is probably supposed to be in the

:03:25. > :04:29.office. Working from home today. Hope that's OK.

:04:30. > :04:44.And still by far the most entertaining match as we have seen

:04:45. > :04:54.on this Centre Court this week have been women's matches. The last match

:04:55. > :05:01.Jo Konta played in was captivating. She was down 0-30 yet came back and

:05:02. > :05:10.avenge the defeat at Nottingham. Last night there was a superb match.

:05:11. > :05:24.This one has not quite ignited as a contest. What would you say to

:05:25. > :05:33.advise Nadal? He has to cut out the unforced errors. Nadal is playing so

:05:34. > :05:37.consistently well and not missing. Khachanov has great weapons. If he

:05:38. > :05:42.is to have an impact, Nadal is not going to be the one to give the

:05:43. > :05:48.donations. It is about getting the balance right. If he takes off too

:05:49. > :05:53.much pace, Nadal will be dictating and dominating. He must find the

:05:54. > :06:05.level of controlled aggression, that means he can dictate, but still not

:06:06. > :06:09.missed. Rugby legends up in the Royal box today. Rob Shaw and

:06:10. > :07:22.O'Driscoll. The areas that forehand again.

:07:23. > :07:27.Anything short. This is what Tim was saying. Anything does not have some

:07:28. > :07:41.way to honour all some purpose to it. Not necessarily an easy part of

:07:42. > :07:43.the game if you are 6-6. Khachanov can always look to try to improve

:07:44. > :09:02.his defensive skills. Coaching duties at the Rafer Nadal

:09:03. > :10:19.Academy in September, so travelling less. -- Rafael.

:10:20. > :10:29.Half chances. A perfect example. Second serve. Down a break. You use.

:10:30. > :10:31.Good returns is that deep forehand from the dial. You can't give a

:10:32. > :11:10.donation away. From Nadal. He was moving like a bishop.

:11:11. > :11:18.Diagonally across the court, fast and backwards. Setting himself up

:11:19. > :11:19.for the balance overhead. No need to demonstrate. Just bounce it. Very

:11:20. > :12:43.nice. If you are having to hit passing

:12:44. > :12:44.shots just to get ahead 30-15 in your service game, certainly feeling

:12:45. > :14:40.the pressure. That is just... How fast! There were

:14:41. > :14:51.two aspects to that shot. The first was the footwork. Still with his

:14:52. > :14:52.grip to get under the ball. Hit the odd forehand into the Khachanov

:14:53. > :15:57.forehand corner. Set point saved. Gaming, Khachanov. Nadal will have

:15:58. > :16:09.to serve for the first set. Nadal leads by 5-4. Be Nadal forehand has

:16:10. > :16:15.been freakishly good. He brought the shot with him. It is a wonderful

:16:16. > :16:18.thing. If he has time he can play the reverse, go down the backhand

:16:19. > :16:25.side to the right hands and create the angle with the off one. This was

:16:26. > :16:30.what was so impressive. Making the backswing shorter. The racket speed

:16:31. > :16:37.is unbelievable. There is the variety. You can hit it where he

:16:38. > :16:41.wants. We all remember Tim Henman and Roger Federer with the backhand

:16:42. > :16:48.side, as many hours as it took to the backhand crumbled. Because he is

:16:49. > :16:52.hitting the ball so hard and with so much racket head acceleration when

:16:53. > :16:58.he creates the spindle is it gives margin for error over the net. The

:16:59. > :17:04.ball is dipping inside the baseline. It is not always easy to take the

:17:05. > :17:09.ball early. You can't always rely on a perfect bounce. That has always

:17:10. > :17:24.been the element of struggle for the Roger Federer when he has played

:17:25. > :17:32.against Rafael Nadal. Twice, Rafa Nadal of Spain, he has a chance to

:17:33. > :17:37.win his third title. Tennis history beckons. The chance of a two set

:17:38. > :19:05.lead. That is the way to serve out a set.

:19:06. > :19:12.I am not sure whether he meant to play the last one or not. Eight

:19:13. > :19:19.minutes played. One-way traffic. Murray coming next. Nadal is not

:19:20. > :19:29.finished but is set away. There is a lot to look forward to hear. Later

:19:30. > :19:38.this evening, Rafa two set up. On Court One, Jo Konta is in charge.

:19:39. > :19:47.4-1 with two breaks of serve. Britain's number one, Jo Konta,

:19:48. > :19:54.doing well over on number one Court. Ostertag Coe, who won the French

:19:55. > :20:03.Open a few weeks ago, was a break of serve up.

:20:04. > :20:14.She's surprised everyone at the French Open when she beat Simona

:20:15. > :20:20.Halep in the final. It is good to see her on a big show court. She was

:20:21. > :20:28.on Court 12 for the first two matches. She is out on court two.

:20:29. > :20:34.That is what is happening out on Court number two.

:20:35. > :20:50.Centre Court not a din sunshine just at the moment. Khachanov, the ration

:20:51. > :20:59.of Armenian descent, playing Rafa Nadal. Look at this! I think Nadal

:21:00. > :21:11.might be playing the best tennis of his career. It is ominous like a

:21:12. > :21:16.third or fourth phase. -- it is almost like. Now the French Open

:21:17. > :21:21.victory, Number 10. He is just delighted to be playing. On the

:21:22. > :21:25.mend's side, it is like the clock has gone back five years with the

:21:26. > :21:34.way Roger Federer has played. Winning in Australia and Indian

:21:35. > :21:39.Wells. Moving onto the clay courts. We had no Rafa at the moment. He

:21:40. > :21:41.might be getting some taping. He might just have popped out to the

:21:42. > :22:04.loo. Would you just love to go out there

:22:05. > :22:08.and hit a couple of balls? I saw you two days after your elbow operation.

:22:09. > :22:16.You had some bits taken out, didn't you? Feeling pretty good. I am not

:22:17. > :22:23.sure I am ready to get out on Centre just yet. How many operations is

:22:24. > :22:34.that? A shoulder and two elbows, and an ankle. A shoulder, two elbows,

:22:35. > :22:53.and an ankle. I think I have used by one. The one before was an attempt.

:22:54. > :23:06.We are equal. Sergio Garcia with us with his fiancee. Angela Akins is

:23:07. > :23:14.her name. The wives and girlfriends on the US tour gave her wedding

:23:15. > :23:19.shower recently, which a surprise to her. Talk about patience. Sergio is

:23:20. > :23:28.so close. Carnoustie against Harrington. So many other

:23:29. > :23:33.opportunities as well. Remember Medina in 96. Taking Tiger Woods on

:23:34. > :23:39.head to head. What wonderful golfer he is! Who would not let him

:23:40. > :23:52.anywhere near the playing surface with a wedge his hand, that is for

:23:53. > :23:57.sure. This court surface is taken up three or four days, is it four days

:23:58. > :24:05.after the tournament. The committee can play on it on a Wednesday and it

:24:06. > :24:15.is on a skip by Friday. What shame! They could resell it for a bit. The

:24:16. > :24:22.preparation for next year starts four days after. This place never

:24:23. > :25:51.stops. Couple of bits would look nice.

:25:52. > :25:59.Those two ground strokes are what he is capable of. But it is more about

:26:00. > :26:09.how consistent he can be and needs to be.

:26:10. > :26:19.If you hit the ball that hard, how can you be consistent? You can be

:26:20. > :26:25.more consistent if you go three feet within the line. When you have that

:26:26. > :26:44.firepower, it does not need to be a winner of every shot.

:26:45. > :27:03.It would certainly feel good to be in front, however long it lasts.

:27:04. > :27:09.Repairs -- the week before the World Tour Finals, who will have that on

:27:10. > :27:15.BBC television, by the way. There is an event in Milan for the eight

:27:16. > :27:20.next-generation players. 21 years of age or under our eligible. Several

:27:21. > :27:26.players will work their way in, plus a wildcard. The rules would be

:27:27. > :27:28.different. The sets will be played up to four with a tie-break at 3-3.

:27:29. > :28:16.It will be best of five. Note uses. On those next gen finals, Zverev may

:28:17. > :29:52.well be at the next ones. He is playing well here.

:29:53. > :30:07.This looks routine, doesn't it? It looks normal because we have seen it

:30:08. > :30:12.for so many years. This is where he lost his way. He was outplayed

:30:13. > :30:18.straightway in the first. Almost like he is hitting the backhand with

:30:19. > :30:19.the thought of moving after it. On a grass court, if anything, you must

:30:20. > :34:48.go forward. Dodged one there! Played his way out

:34:49. > :34:52.of it. Two sets down. A reminder that he's playing in his very first

:34:53. > :34:56.Wimbledon, only his fourth grand slam. He's tried to qualify many

:34:57. > :35:00.times and has failed to get through. His rankings have gone up and he'll

:35:01. > :35:05.be ceded most likely for quite some time. He seems to have sort of game

:35:06. > :35:10.for a 21-year-old to be this physically strong, I'll expect him

:35:11. > :35:19.to be ceded up slams for some time to come. Rafa Nadal was the most

:35:20. > :35:22.improved Player of the Year. The Spanish sports Person of the year,

:35:23. > :35:52.world Sportsman of the year on many, many occasions.

:35:53. > :36:00.Nadal looking down on Rafa Nadal. Not for much longer, his trips on

:36:01. > :36:06.the road with his nephew will be few and far between as he looks after

:36:07. > :36:10.the Rafael Nadal Academy. It's sure to be popular. There is an

:36:11. > :36:14.educational aspect as well as a residential tennis programme as

:36:15. > :36:18.well. Rafa Nadal has had 45 match wins this year which is more than

:36:19. > :36:24.any other player on tour. Any injuries or any niggles at all have

:36:25. > :36:30.absolutely gone now. In fact, with 45 wins, Dominic Thiem at 37 and

:36:31. > :36:33.Sasha Zverev at 35, he is way ahead of everybody else. It's because he

:36:34. > :36:40.keeps on winning every tournament that he's in! If he makes the final,

:36:41. > :36:43.Rafa Nadal, of Wimbledon this year he'll be back to number one. That's

:36:44. > :37:48.how good a year he is. Nadal has been pretty impressive in

:37:49. > :37:59.all aspects of his game, but certainly on serve. He any loss 12

:38:00. > :38:09.points -- he only lost 12 points. In ten service games.

:38:10. > :38:14.When you're holding serve comfortably it gives you such a

:38:15. > :38:26.great platform to go after the return games, to try and break your

:38:27. > :38:30.opponent's serve. Well, we are leaving this match on BBC Two. If

:38:31. > :38:36.you want to continue watching it is now over on BBC One. This match now

:38:37. > :38:43.on BBC One. We'll be heading off to court to deceit the French Open

:38:44. > :38:48.champion but first let's update you with the news so far. Good news is

:38:49. > :38:54.that Johanna Konta. Tremendous form out on court against Maria Sakkari

:38:55. > :39:00.of Greece. Winning in straight sets 6-46- one. That roar at the end

:39:01. > :39:04.tells you what it meant to Jo to follow-up on that epic 3-set win she

:39:05. > :39:08.had on Centre Court. Takes place into the second week of Wimbledon

:39:09. > :39:13.for the first time. The crowd absolutely delighted with her

:39:14. > :39:17.performance on Court Number One. Super job and the coach happy with

:39:18. > :39:28.it as well. Jo Konta through in straight sets. In the next round she

:39:29. > :39:35.will face Caroline Garcia. She came through against Madison Brengle 6-4,

:39:36. > :39:42.6-3. She's had a great year as well. She has a win over Jo Konta at

:39:43. > :39:49.Indian Wells. It won't be easy for Jo but that will be on Monday. The

:39:50. > :39:56.number two seed Jelena Ostapenko is through. No one really talking about

:39:57. > :40:00.her chances of taking the title but she's one of the toughest

:40:01. > :40:04.competitors on the tour and she is through to the next round to face

:40:05. > :40:13.Victoria Azarenka. That will be some match. Elina Svitolina is improving

:40:14. > :40:21.with every year. Still only 22 years old. She defeated Carina Witthoft of

:40:22. > :40:33.Germany. Svitolina is safely through to round four. There were emotional

:40:34. > :40:37.scenes on Court One today for Steve Johnson whose father tragically died

:40:38. > :40:42.just a few weeks before the French Open, suddenly at the age of 58. He

:40:43. > :40:46.spends a lot of time with Steve. He was always courtside for his matches

:40:47. > :40:51.and was emotional at the French Open. His dad taught him to be a

:40:52. > :40:56.competitor and a fighter and he certainly was today, he did his dad

:40:57. > :41:06.proud. Marin Cilic was just too good. He has the big weapons out on

:41:07. > :41:09.court. For Steve Johnson just a very, very emotional time and Marin

:41:10. > :41:20.Cilic understanding how difficult that was for his opponent today.

:41:21. > :41:28.Marin Cilic goes through. And Benoit Paire is through in straight sets.

:41:29. > :41:33.He defeated Jerzy Janowicz who in 2013 got through to the semifinal

:41:34. > :41:38.when he lost Andy Murray. Went out in straight sets today. He goes

:41:39. > :41:48.through to await the winner of Andy Murray or Fabio Fognini, they will

:41:49. > :41:55.be on Centre Court later on today. Everyone enjoying that out on court

:41:56. > :42:00.18. A bit of cloud coming in, what's that? We had beautiful sunshine for

:42:01. > :42:04.the last five days. A bit of cloud coming in but there's wonderful

:42:05. > :42:09.matches all around the grounds. Our focus will be on the show courts. Jo

:42:10. > :42:17.Konta has already made her way through and we're looking forward to

:42:18. > :42:22.Andy Murray. He will be on Centre Court later on. A big sporting

:42:23. > :42:26.weekend all round. We've had special guests in the Royal box including

:42:27. > :42:31.Bryan O'Driscoll who was the captain of Ireland, he was also captain of

:42:32. > :42:37.the British Lions as well. He spoke to us about his time at Wimbledon

:42:38. > :42:41.today. This is a nice pleasant way to spend an afternoon and it's going

:42:42. > :42:45.to be an incredible 24 hours of sport. Let's start with the tennis,

:42:46. > :42:50.great matches today on Centre Court. Yes. It was a shame that Heather

:42:51. > :42:56.Watson couldn't get it done against Azarenka. She showed why she was a

:42:57. > :43:03.two-time major winner. Pretty impressive coming back from having

:43:04. > :43:10.had a child. And then Nadal is two sets up, he seems to be in good

:43:11. > :43:13.form. It's hard not to enjoy today. Impressive commentary skills from

:43:14. > :43:18.you especially as you've just got back from New Zealand for the second

:43:19. > :43:21.test. You must be so excited about this showdown tomorrow, particularly

:43:22. > :43:27.as a fan but as a former Lions captain. It's the dream. 1-1, a lot

:43:28. > :43:32.of pressure on the Kiwis. Back to Eden Park. There's so much talk

:43:33. > :43:37.earlier on the tour about the viable nature of Lions tours and is the

:43:38. > :43:41.concept still plausible. But then you go and beat the best team in the

:43:42. > :43:44.world in the second test and all of that is forgotten. It makes for

:43:45. > :43:50.compelling viewing tomorrow morning and I'm sure there will be many

:43:51. > :43:55.million people tuning in to hopefully cheer on the Lions to an

:43:56. > :44:01.incredible victory. You're here with some of the boys including Dan

:44:02. > :44:05.Carter, who put 33 points past the Lions in 2005. There must be some

:44:06. > :44:10.good banter. Yes, bizarrely this day last week I was sitting at dinner

:44:11. > :44:16.with him in Wellington. And here we are in London at Wimbledon. Listen,

:44:17. > :44:21.obviously he's been getting a bit of stick about the all Blacks losing

:44:22. > :44:26.last week but I think he is quietly confident. Back at Eden Park they

:44:27. > :44:30.back themselves and there's a big performance in that All Black team

:44:31. > :44:37.and the Lions will have to raise their game to. It's lovely to see

:44:38. > :44:41.him here, lovely to see so many famous sporting faces in the Royal

:44:42. > :44:45.box enjoying Wimbledon. Just as the fans are, as they mill around trying

:44:46. > :44:50.to find another court to watch. So much happening on the outside courts

:44:51. > :44:54.as well as the show courts. Bryan mentioned Heather Watson couldn't

:44:55. > :45:00.quite finish it off against Victoria Azarenka. This was match point. Such

:45:01. > :45:05.a tough competitor, Azarenka. She's come back after the birth of her

:45:06. > :45:08.first child in December. This is only her second tournament back,

:45:09. > :45:13.it's incredible how well she's playing. She was a former world

:45:14. > :45:17.number one, twice a semifinalist here. Heather Watson has played so

:45:18. > :45:23.well at these championships, she has a lot to be proud of but Victoria

:45:24. > :45:27.marches on. 6-4 in the third set on Centre Court. Now here they are both

:45:28. > :45:35."Eight because this is the first round of mixed doubles. This is

:45:36. > :45:41.incredibly hard because Heather Watson are the defending champions.

:45:42. > :45:45.They are up against Azarenka and her partner who is an incredible doubles

:45:46. > :45:50.player as well. There will be a big crowd around that court because that

:45:51. > :45:55.is a really tough opening round in the mixed doubles. We'll keep an eye

:45:56. > :46:02.on that one as well. Over on Court Number One, five-time champion Venus

:46:03. > :46:06.Williams has just stepped onto court against 19-year-old Naomi Osaka he's

:46:07. > :46:09.so excited about playing Venus Williams on Court Number One. It

:46:10. > :46:15.looks as if Venus is leaving but she will be back I'm sure to start this

:46:16. > :46:23.match. Venus against Naomi Osaka. That match will be on the red button

:46:24. > :46:28.and on the BBC sport website. We are heading to Court Number Two to get

:46:29. > :46:36.the first glimpse of Jelena Ostapenko. She's up against Camila

:46:37. > :46:44.Giorgi. Let's join our commentators on Court Number Two. COMMENTATOR:

:46:45. > :46:50.Another really tight service game here on court two. It's been a

:46:51. > :46:59.really quick match, the longest rally so far just nine shots. Two

:47:00. > :47:11.players but just love to hit the ball as hard as they possibly can.

:47:12. > :47:26.That was quite some serve. It was a really topsy-turvy first set.

:47:27. > :47:43.Ostapenko 3-1 up, won it 7-5. Battling to get back on level terms.

:47:44. > :47:57.Slides that one out. Ostapenko just hold. There's her coach in the

:47:58. > :48:31.middle with the white Pfizer on. -- white visor.

:48:32. > :48:40.That's the sort of match we've had to. Yes, hard-hitting, winners,

:48:41. > :48:41.losers, we've had just about everything on this court. They

:48:42. > :49:02.really don't hang about, these two. That time the netball comes back on

:49:03. > :49:07.the Italian side... I think you could say it's fast and furious,

:49:08. > :49:32.this match. They are both going full out for it.

:49:33. > :49:38.There is Camila Giorgi's father, Sergio. He's just sitting in the

:49:39. > :49:45.crowd, he's not sitting in the area they reserve the coaches.

:49:46. > :50:31.It's always a bit of a scary moment when Giorgi comes to serve a second

:50:32. > :50:38.serve. That was her 22nd double fault of the tournament. In 2015 she

:50:39. > :50:42.served the most double faults on tour. If that second service

:50:43. > :50:43.working, then it's a very good serve because if she hits it, it's almost

:50:44. > :50:55.as hard as the first. Giorgi holds. Keeps her nose in

:50:56. > :51:17.front in this second set. Earlier on, very early on in the

:51:18. > :51:21.match actually, Ostapenko missed the first serve. Just as she was going

:51:22. > :51:29.to hit the second someone cleared their throat in the crowd and she

:51:30. > :51:39.pointed at Camila's father. The umpire said it wasn't him. She was

:51:40. > :51:44.very on it. It was an extraordinary passage of happening. There's quite

:51:45. > :51:54.a few rowdy people in the crowd, who are behind Camila Giorgi. You don't

:51:55. > :51:59.want to get in the way of an Ostapenko death Claire. I'm

:52:00. > :52:01.surprised he's got any nails left. He was biting them in game one and

:52:02. > :52:33.he's still going. It's been quite important for the

:52:34. > :52:36.pair of them to get first serves in because both of them go after second

:52:37. > :52:56.serve returns, absolutely full out. Giorgi stands here every single time

:52:57. > :53:00.to receive the second serve. Didn't quite get enough pace on the return.

:53:01. > :53:24.It was actually a very good second serve.

:53:25. > :53:32.That just missed. She has a huge back bend in her serve, Ostapenko.

:53:33. > :53:44.Sometimes it can get there skinny on the second serve. -- very spinny.

:53:45. > :53:49.Very good from Ostapenko to get the return of serve back. How about

:53:50. > :54:20.bending your knees?! My goodness! Did everything right, apart from

:54:21. > :54:25.that final shot, did Giorgi. And we're back on serve as we look down

:54:26. > :54:34.onto Court Two in the southernmost part of the all England. You can see

:54:35. > :54:39.the wear on the baselines and they both hit the ball so well. Quite

:54:40. > :54:46.often they are fitting into that patch right by the baseline. It

:54:47. > :54:59.makes the ball really jump around. Giorgi serving with new balls.

:55:00. > :55:03.Possibly having a look down the line. It was right on the line,

:55:04. > :55:38.wasn't it? Smudging that chalk. Doesn't give much away, Giorgi,

:55:39. > :55:47.ever. I think the polar opposite to her opponent.

:55:48. > :55:53.Good or bad, we haven't had any show of emotion, have we? She lets her

:55:54. > :56:14.dad do that! LAUGHTER That's true! She holds. Love game for Giorgi,

:56:15. > :56:25.timely for the Italian. All smiles for dad. 3-2 up in the second set.

:56:26. > :56:32.She's an exciting player to watch, Giorgi, she really is. When

:56:33. > :56:36.everything is working, the serve, the ground strokes, then she can

:56:37. > :56:40.beat anybody the tour. But quite often she plays a couple of really

:56:41. > :56:43.good matches, and then the third match she'll be all over the place

:56:44. > :56:50.and be hitting all the balls out instead of in. She's had a high

:56:51. > :56:55.ranking of 30 in the world. She's at 86 at the moment. But a threat to

:56:56. > :57:07.anybody, she really is. She's the the Italian left in the draw here in

:57:08. > :57:11.the women's competition. I'm sure the Italian tennis Federation are

:57:12. > :57:16.loving that, given the impact is currently between the two! They

:57:17. > :57:21.aren't on the good terms, the Italian Federation and the Giorgi

:57:22. > :57:30.family. They had a bit of an argument. But there you go.

:57:31. > :58:08.Currently on a nine-month ban from Fed cup.

:58:09. > :58:17.Giorgi moves up the court, inside the court to return yet again. Oh

:58:18. > :58:27.yes. You know that's worth a point or two, just the way you threaten

:58:28. > :58:35.that second serve. A bit of pressure that Ostapenko in this service game.

:58:36. > :58:44.Good response. So, very even at the moment between

:58:45. > :59:08.the two. Yet again, inside the court. Going

:59:09. > :59:12.to go for it. What an ankle! Giorgi creates by advancing up the court

:59:13. > :59:18.and she's got two break point opportunities here in game six. I'm

:59:19. > :59:37.not sure she hit that cleanly, but she's going to act like she did!

:59:38. > :59:46.Huge. Now, another first serve needed.

:59:47. > :59:56.That last first serve was the fastest of the match from Ostapenko.

:59:57. > :00:11.A double fault. Well, the first break of the second set goes to

:00:12. > :00:16.Giorgi. Ostapenko is in a similar situation in the opening set and

:00:17. > :00:22.came back to win, but Giorgi, can she consolidate that break?

:00:23. > :00:43.That was quite an outburst from Ostapenko.

:00:44. > :01:12.I thought she had challenged but she had not.

:01:13. > :01:21.She has got away with that. She'd dropped shorter and shorter. You can

:01:22. > :01:27.see the outburst after she hit the double fault in the first game.

:01:28. > :01:44.Never shy of letting everyone knows how she feels.

:01:45. > :02:15.That was timely. Not quite the fastest at 114 miles an hour.

:02:16. > :02:30.She was not up to that. You do feel for the mamma. That is directly at

:02:31. > :02:41.mainly at her. With the sunglasses on in the front row.

:02:42. > :02:49.She is off to the chair. She will not be too impressed if she has to

:02:50. > :02:58.comeback. Let's have a look. Here we go.

:02:59. > :03:08.Ostapenko does not look too impressed. What is she to do? What

:03:09. > :03:20.an important hole that was for Camila Giorgi. She leads the second

:03:21. > :03:25.set by 5-2. Things really hotting up between needs two. It has been a

:03:26. > :03:30.fantastic match. The first set was going one way and then the other.

:03:31. > :03:38.Giorgi fought back. Not quite good enough in the end. She believes in

:03:39. > :03:44.herself that she can be anyone. Sergio sitting in the middle of the

:03:45. > :03:50.crowd. It is weird. I am surprised he can sit there. Surely it is

:03:51. > :03:56.someone's seat, isn't it? He is right behind the judge on the

:03:57. > :04:02.service line. There is the judge. He really should be sitting up above.

:04:03. > :04:10.He wandered down there. He makes allsorts of faces while he is

:04:11. > :04:16.watching. I am not sure his daughter looks over very much. Otherwise she

:04:17. > :04:29.would be a nervous wreck. Serving to stay in the set.

:04:30. > :04:42.She served in game ten at 4-5 in the first.

:04:43. > :04:55.A real difference when Ostapenko gets the first serving because

:04:56. > :04:57.Giorgi can't come up the court to attack so much. She has to stand

:04:58. > :05:16.behind the baseline. I think Ostapenko did pretty well.

:05:17. > :06:05.She was under pressure. Ostapenko holding to love. She can

:06:06. > :06:08.serve for the set. Good not take the opportunity in set one. Can she take

:06:09. > :06:30.it here in set two? That was a 113 mile an hour serve

:06:31. > :06:59.which came back faster. I am sure it seemed like it.

:07:00. > :07:05.It is a bit of a battle of the forehands with these two. Who can

:07:06. > :07:27.hit it faster. Oh, she gets it. Two wonderful

:07:28. > :07:33.shots. Firstly, the drive volley on the backhand from Camila Giorgi.

:07:34. > :07:38.What about the winner from Ostapenko? I cannot believe she

:07:39. > :08:06.squeezed it in that way. Incredible. That was very wild. A huge double

:08:07. > :08:09.fault. The pressure tanning on Giorgi. Two break back points for

:08:10. > :08:44.Ostapenko. Wow! Ostapenko had a look down the

:08:45. > :08:48.court. It was not a clean hit. It was an incredible angle. Now what

:08:49. > :09:00.with the serve from Giorgi? And she breaks. We are back on serve

:09:01. > :09:11.in the second set. Ostapenko still under pressure in

:09:12. > :09:27.the second set. Isn't it incredible that the first

:09:28. > :09:34.title that Ostapenko ever one was Roland Garros, a Grand Slam. It is

:09:35. > :09:39.extraordinary. She made her debut in 2014. It is worth pointing out the

:09:40. > :09:47.last woman to win her debut tour was Barbara Jordan in 1979. Even more

:09:48. > :09:56.weirdly, the last player, man or woman, to win the debut title was

:09:57. > :10:03.Gustavo Kuerten. He lifted the title in July the 8th, 1997. That was the

:10:04. > :10:09.day that Ostapenko was born. That is weird! So much confidence comes from

:10:10. > :10:16.Ostapenko. She believes absolutely in the way she plays her tennis.

:10:17. > :10:54.Down towards the centre of London and Battersea Power Station.

:10:55. > :11:03.Giorgi could not quite keep control of the big shot. She does not link,

:11:04. > :11:25.does she? She does not change her attitude. -- link.

:11:26. > :11:48.A bit of coaching going on. Too much concentration.

:11:49. > :12:02.I think Ostapenko is being very careful about the first serves.

:12:03. > :12:16.Ostapenko levels up. 5-5. Phil Ait was a tremendous serving game, it

:12:17. > :12:40.really was. Kept her opponent at bay.

:12:41. > :12:50.Camila Giorgi under real pressure. As serve has been iffy throughout.

:12:51. > :12:56.She tries to get so far up the court that, at times, she is swinging a

:12:57. > :13:35.little early on to the ball. Now she throws down a double fault.

:13:36. > :13:39.This is a service game of poor quality from Giorgi. Could not come

:13:40. > :14:13.at a worse time. Dad cannot believe it.

:14:14. > :14:29.Landed on the line. Ostapenko knows it. That was a brave serve. Two more

:14:30. > :14:47.break points for Ostapenko to have a look at. Possibly two.

:14:48. > :14:56.Wow! A rare foray to the net from Camila Giorgi. She cannot deal with

:14:57. > :14:59.the volley. Ostapenko, having served to stay in the set, will, to serve

:15:00. > :15:14.to win the match. Well, dad cannot believe it but the

:15:15. > :15:19.pressure has told. I will tell you what, Ostapenko will be pretty happy

:15:20. > :15:26.if she can wrap this up. She is currently on a run of eight straight

:15:27. > :15:31.3-set matches and she has won seven of them. She will not know what to

:15:32. > :15:38.do with herself. It will be incredible if she wins in two. A lot

:15:39. > :15:45.of meters are run in a tennis match. Giorgi is being pulled around the

:15:46. > :15:54.court slightly more. Just pulling her opponent out of court little bit

:15:55. > :15:57.more. The much before this, Simona Halep, the lady who Ostapenko beat

:15:58. > :16:08.in the French Open final, got through. It is, large to Mullingar

:16:09. > :16:21.house -- Roland Garros on Court two. That was right on the line. Again, I

:16:22. > :16:23.think she will try to make a huge and about of first serves in the

:16:24. > :17:48.game will --. Well, that one final flourish of the

:17:49. > :17:49.racket from Camila Giorgi. She loves to return cross-court. That really

:17:50. > :18:13.was quite an angle. Into the net. And the French Open

:18:14. > :18:17.champion books her place in the second week of Wimbledon for the

:18:18. > :18:23.first time in her career. She gets the better of the last remaining

:18:24. > :18:31.Italian competitor in their women's. Under pressure a couple of times in

:18:32. > :18:35.the first and second set. Ostapenko bounced back on both occasions and

:18:36. > :18:44.will take her place in the fourth round. A straight sets win in the

:18:45. > :18:53.end for Ostapenko. Disappointment for Giorgi. Through in straight

:18:54. > :18:58.sets, 7-5, 7-5. Proving she is a danger on every surface. She is

:18:59. > :19:03.through in straight sets. Over on Centre Court at the moment when this

:19:04. > :19:14.is the match watching on BBC One. It is Rafael Dias playing. A real

:19:15. > :19:29.battle in the third set. Rafael Nadal has just held

:19:30. > :19:37.Serve. In the next units with them to drop in on Court One to see Venus

:19:38. > :19:45.Williams up against Osaka, who is serving to stay in the first set.

:19:46. > :19:51.Naomi Osaka, 19 years of age she has already come back from 4-1 down in

:19:52. > :20:01.the opening set. They have been trading barrage is of

:20:02. > :20:17.ground strokes from the baseline. That will do nicely. 116 miles an

:20:18. > :20:48.hour. She leads the aces count. She has a little bit of luck to go

:20:49. > :21:13.with it. A game to love. David Taylor looks

:21:14. > :21:35.reasonably relaxed. I wonder if that continue as the match goes on.

:21:36. > :21:43.If the sack does not get a really good hit, because she is so far into

:21:44. > :22:00.the court, she has a lot of court to cover into the open court.

:22:01. > :22:17.That was a good challenge. Just wide. Second serve to come. She has

:22:18. > :22:21.to target this. Not quite. The intent was clear, once again. Just

:22:22. > :22:33.hitting the tape while struck backhand. Telling herself to move

:22:34. > :22:37.forward. In the opening service game of the Venus Williams, she was

:22:38. > :22:42.standing right in. Look worst years now! That position. -- look where

:22:43. > :23:08.she is now! The coach of Venus Williams is happy

:23:09. > :23:24.with what he has seen so far. One of the longest running player-

:23:25. > :23:32.coach partnerships in women's tennis, men's tennis overall.

:23:33. > :23:40.Sometimes it is hard to keep with the coaches on the women's and men's

:23:41. > :23:45.tours. The 98th match here for Venus. Her mother is watching on.

:23:46. > :23:50.She will have seen them all. Imagine how much tennis she has watched at

:23:51. > :24:00.the All-England Club! Singles, doubles, mixed. Seven Grand Slam

:24:01. > :24:05.titles. Five here on the grass. The last one back in 2008. Not

:24:06. > :24:17.forgetting all the doubles titles. 14 she has shared with Serena. The

:24:18. > :24:21.last one here back in 2015. Here is the young pretender, who idolises

:24:22. > :24:23.the pair of them. She has said this week, if she has to choose, it would

:24:24. > :24:33.probably be Serena. Serving to stay in the first set and

:24:34. > :24:51.take it to a tie-break. That trusted first serve. She says

:24:52. > :26:05.it well. Very short on the court. A sixth ace for Osaka.

:26:06. > :26:13.She was nervous when she started. She fell 4-1 behind. Decided to up

:26:14. > :26:28.the stakes. She did a good job, Williams. I

:26:29. > :26:34.think Osaka got the serve she wanted. Business was equal to the

:26:35. > :26:48.task. One more opportunity here to hold. -- Venus Williams was equal.

:26:49. > :26:58.She is just unstoppable when she is in this mood.

:26:59. > :27:04.From 15-40 and two exceptional returns from Williams. Look at the

:27:05. > :28:17.preparation on the backhand side! Ferocious hitting from both players.

:28:18. > :28:23.No sign of nerves from Osaka. She raced out to a 40-0 lead and got

:28:24. > :28:29.back to deuce. She went for a big forehand down the line and finish it

:28:30. > :28:48.off with a backhand winner. -- finished it off.

:28:49. > :29:26.She has made it. Going for broke in the tie-break. Just gave herself

:29:27. > :29:30.more margin on the return of serve. We have seen her over play a couple

:29:31. > :29:31.of times recently on the second serve return but not on that

:29:32. > :30:40.occasion. Three in a row! There's just no

:30:41. > :30:42.stopping her. Tremendous start to this tie-break. There is just

:30:43. > :30:50.nothing but Williams could have done about that shot there. She was 4-1

:30:51. > :31:29.up in this set, Venus Williams. Well, we are leaving Court Number

:31:30. > :31:33.One now on BBC Two. There could be a big story brewing, we'll keep you

:31:34. > :31:36.up-to-date with that of course because we're heading to Centre

:31:37. > :31:40.Court Andy Murray. But also this match, if you want to continue

:31:41. > :31:49.watching, is on the red button. They're on Henman Hill they are

:31:50. > :31:50.ready, coming up their man is next on Centre Court. A familiar face,

:31:51. > :32:20.the defending champion. COMMENTATOR: It's Nadal again, he

:32:21. > :32:37.ripped the heart out of Murray. It's not going to be easy.

:32:38. > :32:59.Andy Murray will be walking onto Centre Court yet again. A real buzz

:33:00. > :33:06.around the court as we stand, he's facing Fabio Fognini. First of all,

:33:07. > :33:10.your reaction to Rafael Nadal. What a great tie-break, talk about

:33:11. > :33:17.raising your level of play when it matters. He looks awfully strong.

:33:18. > :33:21.When the tournament started I was a little bit worried, he didn't have

:33:22. > :33:25.any warm up tournaments. He had a couple of exhibitions but it wasn't

:33:26. > :33:29.the same. But he still flying high from the French Open win. If you

:33:30. > :33:35.look at his performances, he's the Player of the Year by fast blue you

:33:36. > :33:45.mean he's better than Roger Federer? He's the Player of the Year so far

:33:46. > :33:50.on tour stop. What we've witnessed so far with Federer, and the way he

:33:51. > :33:57.looks now, we are calling its strategic genius. We know how

:33:58. > :34:01.amazing he is on clay but he took advantage of Kachanov. He was a

:34:02. > :34:07.little uptight and green in the beginning. You could sense he

:34:08. > :34:12.started to figure it out. Nadal tried drop shots, he moves forward

:34:13. > :34:17.so far, he jumps on short balls, his service bigger than ever. He hasn't

:34:18. > :34:23.lost any percentage of the serve. It's incredible how well he played.

:34:24. > :34:26.The level these guys are at right now is frightening. Through the

:34:27. > :34:29.clay-court season he was almost unbeatable. And that the French

:34:30. > :34:38.Open, winning it without even dropping a set. Absolutely. He goes

:34:39. > :34:45.under the radar of Federer. He was in the final at Melbourne and Miami.

:34:46. > :34:49.He gets to the clay-court season, wins Barcelona, Madrid, loses in the

:34:50. > :34:54.quarters of Rome and then wins the French Open. Takes a couple of weeks

:34:55. > :35:01.off, we think. Obviously not because he looked so strong. He still very

:35:02. > :35:06.much not dropping a set at. Blue do you need two microphones?! I want

:35:07. > :35:17.people to really listen to me! LAUGHTER Nadal is moving so well,

:35:18. > :35:24.isn't he? I mean, was he hurt or something? Did he have problems on

:35:25. > :35:28.grass? The way he played right now, five times he played in a row he got

:35:29. > :35:33.to the finals. That's the guy you're seeing right now. You talk about

:35:34. > :35:38.jumping on every opportunity. It's not just the side to side. You think

:35:39. > :35:42.of how well he's able run around the backhand and hit that inside out

:35:43. > :35:46.forehand, which by the way is a thing of beauty. It's also how well

:35:47. > :35:54.he moves forward. He changes his court position. Carlos Moya has

:35:55. > :35:57.apparently been a great shot in the arm for him. One of the things I've

:35:58. > :36:04.heard they've worked on is the serve. You've got to hit it flatter

:36:05. > :36:10.sometimes. He's doing an awesome job and still at 70%. He's in the 120s

:36:11. > :36:17.now and he's using bread serves. He comes in and he's one of the best

:36:18. > :36:21.volley players in the world. When he comes in on clay he does a lot of

:36:22. > :36:30.drop shots. He's really using the glass -- the grass to his advantage.

:36:31. > :36:36.When he gets an opportunity to come forward he's not afraid. We are

:36:37. > :36:43.talking about Rafael Nadal not John McEnroe! He's not chipping and

:36:44. > :36:48.chopping, get out of here! That's a good story! LAUGHTER That's probably

:36:49. > :36:54.what he'll do next just to show he can do it better than Muller! Muller

:36:55. > :36:59.has a great serve. He's 34 and he's better than ever, he's a great spot

:37:00. > :37:03.server. He doesn't hit it as hard as a couple of the other big boys but

:37:04. > :37:10.he uses it phenomenally well. I think ill benefits from having a

:37:11. > :37:13.couple of days off -- I think he will benefit from having a couple of

:37:14. > :37:19.days. The legs will be fresher which they will need to be. The way Nadal

:37:20. > :37:25.is attacking his shots, it seems to me like he's playing with tonnes of

:37:26. > :37:37.confidence right now. Welcome to Rafa Nadal's world. With respect to

:37:38. > :37:41.Kachanov, he's never played on this court. Of course Nadal's quality was

:37:42. > :37:53.incredibly high but he hasn't really played against a typical grass court

:37:54. > :38:03.player. It's a real test for him. It'll be a good test for Rafa. Would

:38:04. > :38:22.he rather play Gilles Muller or Ivo Karlovic? Here we go! CHEERING

:38:23. > :38:30.We are all set for some wonderful Friday evening entertainment with

:38:31. > :38:35.Andy Murray on Centre Court. The court he loves. Up against a tricky

:38:36. > :38:40.opponent, Fabio Fognini. We talked about it earlier in the programme,

:38:41. > :38:46.it's 3-3 in the head-to-head but on grass Murray is the favourite.

:38:47. > :38:50.Absolutely. The last time they played was in Rome. Fognini walks

:38:51. > :38:55.around like he owns Italy! He's a lovely guy but on the court he has a

:38:56. > :39:00.bit of a temperamental issue at times. On clay he's one of the best.

:39:01. > :39:05.He improved his game on the hard court as well. On grass I rate

:39:06. > :39:14.Murray's chances. Fognini is flamboyant and temperamental? I

:39:15. > :39:19.sensed a glare at my end which is deserving! Fognini is very

:39:20. > :39:25.temperamental player and person. At times we've struggled with getting

:39:26. > :39:29.behind him. I think he hits a lots of interesting shots, he's a great

:39:30. > :39:34.shot maker. He moves exceptionally well but there have been times when

:39:35. > :39:39.he seems to have checked out. The good news for fans of Fognini is he

:39:40. > :39:46.relishes the opportunity to play the best of the best, where they play

:39:47. > :39:49.their best. He's got his opportunity because he's playing Murray at

:39:50. > :39:55.Wimbledon. Hopefully, despite his lack of success on the grass he can

:39:56. > :39:57.make a match of this. Let's find out more about Murray's opponent Fabio

:39:58. > :40:15.Fognini. Italy's fab Fabio Fognini is

:40:16. > :40:20.notorious for his fiery temperament. Wimbledon 2014 and this display of

:40:21. > :40:28.unsportsmanlike conduct earned him a fine of 27,500 US dollars. Highest

:40:29. > :40:31.recorded. # Please do let me be misunderstood

:40:32. > :40:37.# He's looked sharp so far,

:40:38. > :40:40.despatching Dmitri terse enough and your reefer Selley to reach a third

:40:41. > :40:45.round at Wimbledon for only the third round in his career. I'm happy

:40:46. > :40:51.with the way I was playing. Of course I need the play against

:40:52. > :40:57.Murray and other time in the Centre Court, I hope. Fognini is the same

:40:58. > :41:01.age as Andy Murray and has known his opponent since they were teenagers.

:41:02. > :41:10.They've met on six occasions and honours are even. 3-3. So this is

:41:11. > :41:13.the seventh much we play. They are only statistics, of course. We know

:41:14. > :41:19.each other really well since we were 14. We know each other well, of

:41:20. > :41:25.course it's going to be a tough match. While Fognini remains a wild

:41:26. > :41:29.child on court, away from the action he has new responsibilities as a

:41:30. > :41:39.first-time father. It all went well so we are really, really happy. The

:41:40. > :41:43.baby is happy to. Can't ask for more. IUB type of father who gets

:41:44. > :41:48.heavily involved, changing nappies, feeding, waking up at night? Yes.

:41:49. > :41:58.You don't think so, but I am like that. I try to help out when I'm at

:41:59. > :42:06.home. When I'm at home I tried to help her as best I can. What a good

:42:07. > :42:11.dad! What a fascinating character he is, Boris. I was actually invited to

:42:12. > :42:16.their wedding last year in Italy and it was like out of the Godfather

:42:17. > :42:20.movie. Both families have great backgrounds. I thought Marlon Brando

:42:21. > :42:28.himself would reappear. I'm very happy for them. Their son is about a

:42:29. > :42:33.month old and he's a very doting father. My invite was lost in the

:42:34. > :42:36.mail! I'm glad you enjoyed it! LAUGHTER You've talked a bit about

:42:37. > :42:44.his movement. He's got a big forehand as well. I like both sides.

:42:45. > :42:52.His backhand is a solid stroke and he's more consistent. The forehand

:42:53. > :42:57.is more dangerous. He can be deadly. It's really his movement. He's one

:42:58. > :43:03.of the quickest players. He needs to set himself up and get himself into

:43:04. > :43:07.position quickly. I think you'll have some opportunity to do that

:43:08. > :43:11.against Murray. Murray doesn't hit his forehand as flat or as hard as

:43:12. > :43:19.other players. It should allow Fognini sometime. He'll know the

:43:20. > :43:25.more chances he gets the better against Murray. This court is

:43:26. > :43:31.bouncing higher and it's plain to me a little slower, more similar to a

:43:32. > :43:36.clay court than we would expect. Ostapenko said that the court was

:43:37. > :43:42.slower than the play at Paris. Never been heard before! That's

:43:43. > :43:49.blasphemous! Then Ostapenko was on another planet in Paris anyway.

:43:50. > :43:53.Maybe she didn't realise it was clay. What about Murray? He's yet to

:43:54. > :44:01.drop a set. He looked very good in his last match. I do think we have

:44:02. > :44:06.to talk about the hip injury any more. I saw him at the entrance this

:44:07. > :44:12.morning and he walked perfectly fine. No limp whatsoever. He had to

:44:13. > :44:16.heavy bags on his shoulders. We talked a little bit. I said I'm

:44:17. > :44:24.doing your match so you've got to play well! Against Brown he only hit

:44:25. > :44:31.five and forced errors and Brown really can play on grass. You talked

:44:32. > :44:35.about Fognini's movement around the court, Murray is one of the very

:44:36. > :44:41.best. He is one of the best of all time. And he understands the type of

:44:42. > :44:46.movement necessary on this court, on a grass court. Some guys have

:44:47. > :44:51.trouble figuring that out. You saw Kachanov earlier learning on the

:44:52. > :44:56.job. I think you'll be a factor but Murray has long known to take those

:44:57. > :45:00.little steps and know when to explode. He's got so much variety to

:45:01. > :45:06.his game. He's been more offensive recently. He knows how dangerous

:45:07. > :45:11.Fognini can be so he'll want to jump on top of that early on and not

:45:12. > :45:15.allow him into the match. There's something about it when you lost the

:45:16. > :45:18.last time you played against an opponent. Whether you're number one

:45:19. > :45:29.in the world or number 50, he plays tricks with their head. It's a very

:45:30. > :45:34.important factor. Plus, Fognini is a bit of a show man. He likes to play

:45:35. > :45:38.in front of big galleries. So that is a proper match the Andy Murray.

:45:39. > :45:42.He's winning and play but he's a good doubles player as well so he's

:45:43. > :45:47.presumably good around the net. He's got better at the net. We'll see how

:45:48. > :45:52.offensive here. He hasn't got the reach of a lot of these guys. I

:45:53. > :45:56.doubt you'll see him move forward a lot. He's going to react to Murray

:45:57. > :46:02.Murray isn't being as offensive as some of the people in his camp will

:46:03. > :46:07.want him to be, that's when Fognini will want to take advantage of those

:46:08. > :46:11.types of balls. Murray is at his best when he's being forward,

:46:12. > :46:15.playing forward. He needs to dictate the rallies. If he controls the

:46:16. > :46:19.centre of the court and makes Fognini run left to right, that's

:46:20. > :46:28.when he plays his best. Sometimes he gets tentative and runs too much

:46:29. > :46:31.instead of dictating. So we'll see the early changes, I'm sure they'll

:46:32. > :46:36.have the game plan sets and know what to do to make their man win.

:46:37. > :46:42.Thank you very much. I'll let you had to the commentary box to join

:46:43. > :46:47.Simon Read for this one. COMMENTATOR: Looking forward to it

:46:48. > :47:00.immensely. Final moments before they get underway. Their seventh meeting.

:47:01. > :47:06.The first time in a Grand Slam. The only best-of-5 set match they've

:47:07. > :47:10.played was in the Davis Cup in Naples in 2014. Fognini produced,

:47:11. > :47:18.for me, the finest individual performance I've ever seen and he

:47:19. > :47:23.beat Murray 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. It was quite sensational. It's very

:47:24. > :47:28.different. He's a peacock, Fabio Fognini. He loves playing in front

:47:29. > :47:38.of his own people and here he's an Murray's patch. Let's see how he

:47:39. > :47:53.goes. You can hear the buzz around the crowd. Murray checking on his

:47:54. > :48:04.notes. Very shortly will be underway. John and Boris have joined

:48:05. > :48:11.me. Any insight into what those notes say? "Don't Miss!" What would

:48:12. > :48:20.be interesting to ask him when the tournament is over... He went tell

:48:21. > :48:21.us if he wins, that's for sure! It will be the pride of Britain to

:48:22. > :48:48.begin. Murray playing against a man whose

:48:49. > :48:54.fiery, he's got flair, and a shocking disciplinary record. Does

:48:55. > :48:56.that remind you of anyone? Let me think about it... Such a bad setup

:48:57. > :49:19.question! LAUGHTER But now he's a dad, that last bit

:49:20. > :50:35.will change! LAUGHTER No comment! Wow. Murray starting red-hot.

:50:36. > :50:44.Murray comfortably on his way. He has that Italian strut when things

:50:45. > :50:48.are going well, Fognini. But if Murray can get to him in this first

:50:49. > :50:53.set that might change things. He certainly will have opportunities on

:50:54. > :50:58.Fognini's sir. It's not one of the big serves in the men's game. Many

:50:59. > :51:03.kicks it in as well of the second. If that percentage is there, if he's

:51:04. > :51:08.feeling some nerves, Murray should be able to take advantage. He's been

:51:09. > :51:13.known to go away, I don't think he would do that here against Murray on

:51:14. > :51:15.the Centre Court of Wimbledon. There's a lot of upside for Fognini

:51:16. > :51:52.to play and do well here. Great rescue shot from Murray. Yes,

:51:53. > :51:58.could see that Fognini took the ball early on. Going for a winner down

:51:59. > :52:02.the line, hit very flat. He looks almost flat-footed when he hits it.

:52:03. > :52:24.Suddenly it explodes off his racket so you have to be alert to that.

:52:25. > :52:32.Really got hold of that. I think the biggest difference is how many

:52:33. > :52:37.points each player will win off their own serve. I didn't think

:52:38. > :52:42.you'll see Fognini win as merry. Murray is such a great return. --

:52:43. > :53:05.returner. Is that a spooky new line of clothes

:53:06. > :53:09.I'm not aware of?! Italian style, maybe! He goes his own way, doesn't

:53:10. > :53:29.he? We shouldn't forget it's the third

:53:30. > :53:33.match for Andy Murray on Centre Court and it's the first four

:53:34. > :53:35.Fognini. This court plays different. You can't practice on it. A

:53:36. > :53:52.brand-new look for the Italian. Is it the only court in the world

:53:53. > :53:55.you can't practice on? I think so. I think for all the other majors you

:53:56. > :54:09.are allowed to play in the days before. This is unusual. They want

:54:10. > :54:10.to protect the grass. According to some of the players it's needed

:54:11. > :54:40.protecting. That was a good opportunity for

:54:41. > :54:48.Murray. Wasn't able to capitalise it. Second serve, return, wasn't

:54:49. > :54:56.able to capitalise. Fognini is going to have to use his footwork around

:54:57. > :55:00.the court. He's got excellent timing on both sides. The ball is generally

:55:01. > :55:02.going to stay lower. That's not going to affect, he's not a tall

:55:03. > :55:37.guide to begin with. -- tall guy. If the rallies are long, a lot of

:55:38. > :55:42.long rallies, does that favour Fognini? I don't think so,

:55:43. > :55:48.necessarily. It depends how hard they are hitting the ball. What type

:55:49. > :55:55.of shots are coming off each player 's racket. If Murray's is reacting

:55:56. > :55:58.the balls then I think it would help Fognini. If it's attacking short

:55:59. > :56:09.ones, he'll be in the drivers seat more often. That's an example of

:56:10. > :56:15.where he uses his excellent footwork to get under that ball. That slice,

:56:16. > :56:23.is it not going to work as well against him. He took advantage of

:56:24. > :56:52.the short ball. I think that's the key today.

:56:53. > :57:01.He's got bucketloads of flair, this fellow. No one knows it better than

:57:02. > :57:14.Andy Murray. He took a pasting in Naples in the Davis Cup tie, and

:57:15. > :57:37.again in Rome. He can rise to the occasion.

:57:38. > :57:50.You know what Fognini is thinking! He's a talker out there. He

:57:51. > :57:56.expresses himself. He's an Italian, have used ever seen an Italian not

:57:57. > :57:57.expressing himself?! -- have you ever seen an Italian not expressing

:57:58. > :59:05.himself. Great reactions. Murray holds and

:59:06. > :59:09.goes to up. STUDIO: Murray holds on and it's still an serve on Centre

:59:10. > :59:13.Court. We'll be right back with this match but will just show you what is

:59:14. > :59:22.happening elsewhere. On Court Number One when we left it, Venus Williams

:59:23. > :59:28.was 3-0 down in that type -- tie-break. She has taken the first

:59:29. > :59:32.set. It 3-3 in the second set. That is our feature match on the red

:59:33. > :59:41.button. Over on Court two, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is a break of

:59:42. > :59:46.serve down to Sam Querrey. Sam Querrey 4-2 up in that match. Follow

:59:47. > :59:50.on the red button or the BBC sport website. We'll keep you up-to-date

:59:51. > :59:54.with those matches but back we go now to Centre Court. COMMENTATOR:

:59:55. > :59:59.Both of you have won Wimbledon three times. Did you still get nervous

:00:00. > :00:05.towards the end of your career when you played here on centre, no matter

:00:06. > :00:08.how many times you Plato? I wouldn't call it nervousness but you feel the

:00:09. > :00:12.pressure in the way you feel that time is running out. The beautiful

:00:13. > :00:16.thing about being young is you don't think about the future, you think

:00:17. > :00:19.about the now. The older I got, I felt like, how many years do I have

:00:20. > :00:29.left? You need to feel a sense of urgency

:00:30. > :00:35.and pressure, otherwise he would not care. I still felt nervous till the

:00:36. > :00:37.bitter end. There is no feeling like walking out on this court. That is

:00:38. > :00:51.for sure. One of the things I regret is never

:00:52. > :01:07.playing new on this court. That would have been painful for one

:01:08. > :01:14.of us. Based on our records, that would be me.

:01:15. > :01:30.You are a couple of months older than me.

:01:31. > :01:44.He is using his quickness. Murray covers the court great. Fognini can

:01:45. > :01:50.move the court quicker. Outright sprints, five, ten yards. He moves

:01:51. > :02:00.well. It looks like he has fast twitch muscles.

:02:01. > :02:15.The coach of Fognini in the blue shirt. A good one. That works.

:02:16. > :02:24.He used to coach Juan Martin del Potro. He has come on board late in

:02:25. > :02:31.the career of Fognini. He is the father now. Panetta, the US Open

:02:32. > :02:43.champion. What a way to go out for her!

:02:44. > :02:54.A tricky time to try to return. 6:30pm as shade moves across the

:02:55. > :02:58.court will stop that is part of why that return was hit as long as it

:02:59. > :03:11.was. It is tempting as the server to hit

:03:12. > :03:22.it to that spot where it is sunny. Coming out of the shade.

:03:23. > :03:32.At times he gets lazy, not getting himself back into proper position.

:03:33. > :03:34.He understands how quick he is. That cost him he did not explode back

:03:35. > :04:01.behind him to the backhand. He is great to watch. He did win a

:04:02. > :04:04.Grand Slam but that was in doubles at the Australian Open a couple of

:04:05. > :04:34.years ago. He was comfortable at the net.

:04:35. > :04:48.He has good timing. You can see that. He took the ball on early.

:04:49. > :04:51.Fognini is settling in nicely here. He has not spent much time on this

:04:52. > :05:38.Centre Court. Easy enough in the end. Murray leads

:05:39. > :05:45.3-2. Fognini is probably annoyed because Murray's first two

:05:46. > :05:53.opponents, Bublik is coming up with that crazy shots. No one can top

:05:54. > :06:01.Justin Brown! I am actually normal. It is not as if you don't see the

:06:02. > :06:10.unexpected with him either. He emptied the kitchen sink already.

:06:11. > :06:22.Hello, Henman Hill. It has been warm. Some type of beverage. Yes.

:06:23. > :06:27.Especially at this time. I think they call it pins here, don't they?

:06:28. > :06:41.It is five o'clock somewhere. Just the occasional beer as well. Murray

:06:42. > :06:46.has got to stick with this guy and low percentage shots. Do more than

:06:47. > :06:53.he should and bank on him blinking, not being able to do it consistently

:06:54. > :07:00.enough. Also, if Fognini does about high percentage of first serves in

:07:01. > :07:03.he must tackle the second serve. A good atmosphere on Centre Court.

:07:04. > :07:45.They are really getting behind both players.

:07:46. > :07:53.I think it is important for Fognini to stay with it. Otherwise that

:07:54. > :08:06.might disappear and he could be in trouble. The strap never disappears.

:08:07. > :08:13.The game might. -- the strut. But he does have a record of being

:08:14. > :08:17.discouraged if things do go wrong. I can't imagine, want or think, that

:08:18. > :08:23.he would even think of that happening here.

:08:24. > :08:34.Trying to enjoy the moment. An interesting shot selection at 15-30.

:08:35. > :08:36.Fognini is unpredictable. You never know what he will pull out of the

:08:37. > :08:56.hat. That is three forehands he has

:08:57. > :09:02.missed this game. Not staying down with the ball will cost him the

:09:03. > :09:21.serve. The first break point in the match.

:09:22. > :09:29.He does not turn his shoulders a lot on the forehand. A very open

:09:30. > :09:38.standards. That was not a good look, that game. The forehand went totally

:09:39. > :10:10.off. He missed four of them in this game.

:10:11. > :10:19.That was glorious timing. The backhand is a more consistent,

:10:20. > :10:46.dependable shot, as we saw that previous game.

:10:47. > :10:52.Can he bite back straightaway? With the Sun that low, it is very

:10:53. > :12:01.difficult to see the ball. The court is firmer than I have seen

:12:02. > :12:11.it in a long, long time. The heat and later starting date. Look how

:12:12. > :12:46.high thing kicked! Unbelievable. Is this the grass court?

:12:47. > :13:32.That was perfect placement. Certainly expected on this break

:13:33. > :13:35.point to attack the forehand. It all started with a good first serve.

:13:36. > :13:54.Really impressive today from Murray. There is another. 125, that one.

:13:55. > :13:59.Fognini about five foot ten. He does not have the reach. A tall order for

:14:00. > :14:21.him to figure out where to stand and how to handle the first serve.

:14:22. > :14:35.That was a comfortable hold. Murray on a bit of a role. He goes 5-2.

:14:36. > :14:40.UMPIRE: The ball was called out. Fognini thought the ball was going

:14:41. > :14:45.to kick up again. Ended up jamming him. Another mis-hit. That was a

:14:46. > :14:55.disappointing way for him to end this game. UMPIRE: Murray leads 5-2.

:14:56. > :15:05.Mr Fognini has two challenges remaining. Another baby on the way,

:15:06. > :15:11.towards the end of the year. Fognini's child was born six weeks

:15:12. > :15:15.ago. They had quite a bit in common. Murray said that what has been

:15:16. > :15:19.talked about in the press has been a great motivator. A lot of people

:15:20. > :15:23.were wondering if he would even appear with the hip problem he was

:15:24. > :15:29.meant to have. There were rumours he would withdraw. He has loved that.

:15:30. > :15:33.Those are the tabloids! I don't think for a second he was not going

:15:34. > :15:38.to appear and play at this event. The only question is how much stress

:15:39. > :15:46.he was feeling, trying to be the defending champion. Were you aware

:15:47. > :15:54.of something I was not, Boris? He lost in the first round at Queen's.

:15:55. > :16:01.There were a couple of exhibitions that were cancelled. He was

:16:02. > :16:08.seriously contemplating on Saturday, let me wait until Sunday to see how

:16:09. > :16:12.good it is. He had a two and a half practice session. It was a real

:16:13. > :16:15.concern for him not playing. My twin brother is in the Royal box. Did you

:16:16. > :16:32.see? Got it. We are mistaken for each other.

:16:33. > :16:40.Backers of strange thing. Can tell. There he is. Your twin. He comes

:16:41. > :16:42.every year. He is a big tennis fan. He comes to the O2 in November as

:16:43. > :16:51.well. He has gone off the rails right now,

:16:52. > :17:08.Fognini, from 2-2. Apparently he has wound up so much

:17:09. > :17:23.he is not able to perform at the moment.

:17:24. > :17:45.He has lost his mojo. Three set points.

:17:46. > :17:56.That was a shocker, I am afraid. Murray gifted the set in the end.

:17:57. > :18:06.The Chellini had better read group fast. That is the difficult part. --

:18:07. > :18:13.Fognini. He is so unpredictable. He looked very good until 2-2, 2-3. He

:18:14. > :18:18.had break point to come back and now the set is down 6-2. That is one of

:18:19. > :18:23.his frailties. The problem with Fognini is he does not express his

:18:24. > :18:31.intensity and efforts in the way that most players do. You looked at

:18:32. > :18:37.him back there and you in the world did that happen? You are a talented,

:18:38. > :18:42.competent and professional player. Suddenly, it looked like he had

:18:43. > :18:47.decided he wanted to end the set. I get the feeling with him it is all

:18:48. > :18:51.or nothing. Not much in between. That fantastic performance when he

:18:52. > :18:57.beat Murray in Naples three years ago. I know it was on play. It was

:18:58. > :19:03.at home. It was almost the most perfect match. He is in the least

:19:04. > :19:08.comfortable position he can envision himself in. On the Centre Court at

:19:09. > :19:13.Wimbledon. The opportunity of a lifetime for a lot of players he is

:19:14. > :19:20.wound up and not performing. I am sure in some ways, he wants to do

:19:21. > :19:30.better. He is embarrassed that bit foot up his way of showing it, is

:19:31. > :19:37.hard to know how to get out of this. SUE BARKER: I hope you are enjoying

:19:38. > :19:44.this match on BBC Two. In about ten minutes we will move it over to BBC

:19:45. > :19:46.One. So, the One Show that was scheduled will now be on BBC Two at

:19:47. > :19:51.seven o'clock. The winner of the first set starts

:19:52. > :22:28.the second. The forehand has really been a

:22:29. > :22:32.problem so far in this match. That does not seem much preparation in

:22:33. > :22:36.Fognini. He is lazy with his footwork. He does not get there in
