:00:43. > :00:49.Week one at Wimbledon was packed with action. But today, things shift

:00:50. > :00:56.up a gear. The last 16 in the men's and women's draw all play, big

:00:57. > :01:01.names, champions, wherever you look. It is a day like no other in the

:01:02. > :01:05.Grand Slam Callander. So, stick with us, you won't want to take your eyes

:01:06. > :02:17.off it. This is magical Manic Monday.

:02:18. > :02:24.What a day this is, greater matches everywhere, all over the ground. And

:02:25. > :02:27.the Homer helps Joe Kaunda and Andy Murray hope to become the best

:02:28. > :02:32.players from Great Britain to reach the last eight Saint Roger Taylor

:02:33. > :02:38.and Virginia Wade back in 1973 -- Johanna Konta. Player started at

:02:39. > :02:41.11:30am and some matches are over with the ladies particularly busy

:02:42. > :02:46.today. We will update you on the scores in just a moment. Earlier

:02:47. > :02:50.today, this man, Andy Murray, was out on his favourite practice court

:02:51. > :02:58.around the corner, he came through a very tricky third-round match

:02:59. > :03:01.against Barbier von Nini. He will be second on Centre Court today to face

:03:02. > :03:07.Benoit Paire from France. He was outspoken about the championship

:03:08. > :03:11.three years ago. He said, "Simple, I hate Wimbledon" but I think he's

:03:12. > :03:16.enjoying it a little bit more now he's got a feel for the grass. No

:03:17. > :03:20.question Rafa Nadal loved Wimbledon, the two-time champion looking

:03:21. > :03:26.ominously good on the surface once the game. Fresh from his tenth

:03:27. > :03:29.victory at the French Open. Novak Djokovic, three-time champion here,

:03:30. > :03:33.he wanted to go and get a few matches down at Eastbourne and

:03:34. > :03:39.became a champion and he has been building confidence all the time,

:03:40. > :03:43.winner of 12 grand slam titles. And some of the great players out there,

:03:44. > :03:49.Roger Federer is normally on the championship courts, but this time

:03:50. > :03:53.he is in the blue, that's because he did not bring up in time to get one

:03:54. > :03:58.of the courts on the championship courts, so he is out on one of the

:03:59. > :03:59.practice courts, so I guess you could say it's not just perfect

:04:00. > :04:10.Swiss timing from Roger today. Anyway, hello and welcome to the

:04:11. > :04:15.second week of Wimbledon. The second Monday, always a busy one. Quality

:04:16. > :04:17.matches all around the grounds and, weather permitting, we will

:04:18. > :04:19.hopefully know the aid quarterfinalists of the men's and

:04:20. > :04:24.ladies Championships at the end of the day. It's my favourite day of

:04:25. > :04:28.the championship, the best day in grand slam tennis, and the best day

:04:29. > :04:34.in the global sporting calendar am so let's look at the incredible

:04:35. > :04:38.order of play. On Centre Court, Venus Williams is on court at the

:04:39. > :04:43.moment against the 19-year-old Ana Konjuh, who many are tipping at the

:04:44. > :04:50.top and then it is Andy Murray v Benoit Paire and then Grigor

:04:51. > :04:53.Dimitrov v Roger Federer. Johanna Konta is going well. We'll go there

:04:54. > :05:04.in a moment and then it is Rafa Nadal against Giles Muller. And then

:05:05. > :05:14.Novak Djokovic to. Over on Court Number Two, one double mat at the

:05:15. > :05:26.moment. Kerber against Muguruza. And then Milos Raonic v Alexander

:05:27. > :05:29.Zverev. Coco Vandeweghe v Caroline Wozniacki, she's never made it

:05:30. > :05:34.through to the last eight in Wimbledon. Willoughby today? Dominic

:05:35. > :05:41.Thiem v Tomas Berdych will be a big hitting match. Roberto Bautista Agut

:05:42. > :05:46.v Marin Cilic, stand-by for the big servers out on court 18. Sam Querrey

:05:47. > :05:50.against Kevin Anderson. All about to look forward to, and very busy day

:05:51. > :05:54.and we hoping there will certainly be no rain on the horizon, but there

:05:55. > :06:00.just might be for the let's find out from Carol. There might be. With a

:06:01. > :06:04.talking about the cloud building and it has been doing that in the last

:06:05. > :06:09.couple of hours but as we had from now until 6pm, there's a 30% chance

:06:10. > :06:13.of a risk of a shower and that means there is a 70% chance it will stay

:06:14. > :06:18.dry of course, and there will be sunny spells and we are looking at

:06:19. > :06:21.highs of 26 Celsius, and into the evening, the shower risk diminishes

:06:22. > :06:31.as a template has come down a bit, so plenty of play them but tomorrow

:06:32. > :06:34.it a different date -- temperatures. Starting on a cloudy node, splashes

:06:35. > :06:36.of rain around but in the afternoon, particularly mid afternoon onwards,

:06:37. > :06:40.and 80% chance that we will have some heavy and persistent rain but I

:06:41. > :06:43.don't want to leave you on that note because we head into Wednesday and

:06:44. > :06:48.the rain will clear and the sun will come back out. That is great news on

:06:49. > :06:52.Wednesday. Not that great news for tomorrow but thank you very much.

:06:53. > :06:57.Play is underway and there are so much to get through. We will take

:06:58. > :07:00.you around the grounds and show you what is happening. Venus Williams.

:07:01. > :07:04.The first set from the 19-year-old in just 28 minutes, 6-3. That

:07:05. > :07:14.matches on red button on the website. On Court Number Two,

:07:15. > :07:18.Angelique Kerber v Garbine Muguruza. 3-3. Nothing between them. That

:07:19. > :07:25.matches also on the red button. And the website. On Court number three,

:07:26. > :07:32.Coco Vandeweghe had broken Caroline Wozniacki. 15-13. She's being

:07:33. > :07:38.coached by Pat Cash who is confident she can come through against the

:07:39. > :07:43.former world number one. And Oberon court 18, Sam Querrey is just about

:07:44. > :07:46.to get underway against Kevin Anderson. That could be quite a long

:07:47. > :07:52.one. There have been a couple of matches completed. Svetlana

:07:53. > :07:58.Kuznetsova is in a hurry, straight sets victory for her defeating

:07:59. > :08:03.Agnieszka Radwanska, the former finalist, so Kuznetsova go through,

:08:04. > :08:08.the first time back in the last eight of Wimbledon in the last ten

:08:09. > :08:17.years. Through to face Venus Williams or Konjuh. Jelena Ostapenko

:08:18. > :08:23.v Elina Svitolina, she wanted against the fourth seed. Will she do

:08:24. > :08:28.the same as the French Open? She won the title they are. Will she do the

:08:29. > :08:40.same here at Wimbledon? I would not bet against it. 42 winners she had

:08:41. > :08:46.in that match. And on court 18. The qualifier has been over here, she

:08:47. > :08:50.won at Surbiton and Ilkley and got through to the semifinals at

:08:51. > :08:59.Nottingham, so she is really going well. 6-3 in the third and final set

:09:00. > :09:07.for Magdalena Rybarikova, what a story that is. So we are heading

:09:08. > :09:11.here to Court Number One and she went for a Hawk-Eye when she was

:09:12. > :09:17.serving for the first set and it went against her. She lost her serve

:09:18. > :09:31.and now Garcia is a 6-5 up. Let's join Tracy Austin and Nick Mullins.

:09:32. > :09:43.COMMENTATOR: Let's listen to the audio on this.

:09:44. > :09:59.Pretty much simultaneously, maybe Konta ahead of the call.

:10:00. > :10:08.The call came after Konta hit the ball and that's what the umpire is

:10:09. > :10:18.saying. Konta challenge did but, it turned out the ball was good.

:10:19. > :10:23.Eventually, it was Garcia who looked at the umpire and said, was that in

:10:24. > :10:27.or out, and she said, I think it was long but if you want to challenge,

:10:28. > :10:34.and she said yes, because she had three challenges remaining but it

:10:35. > :10:50.was aimed by a few blades of grass. -- in. That is in by a depth of ink.

:10:51. > :10:54.Width as well. A turnaround in this fourth round contest. Instead of

:10:55. > :11:13.serving for the first set, Konta now serving to stay in it. 6-5.

:11:14. > :11:22.At that changeover, Konta had a stern talk to herself. Just next

:11:23. > :11:26.point. Their Belgian coach on the left-hand side of there. Here new

:11:27. > :11:37.hitting partner, Andrew Fitzpatrick, on the right.

:11:38. > :11:42.We talked about the new-found mental approach, the added mental steel

:11:43. > :11:44.Johanna Konta has added and it has been added just for moments like

:11:45. > :12:13.this. Phenomenal rebound and second serve

:12:14. > :12:49.with depth. That has gone a wide. This first set

:12:50. > :13:02.will need a tie-break to decide the winner.

:13:03. > :13:13.The number one Court has been dubbed the Wok without its roof in the

:13:14. > :13:18.first week. They were fully extended in the next few years. Watched by

:13:19. > :13:30.her boyfriend, Jackson weighed. All the fun of the fair now. The 20

:13:31. > :13:31.Three Rd Frenchwoman to serve. -- the 23-year-old Frenchwoman to

:13:32. > :13:53.serve. There are very rarely good times to

:13:54. > :14:00.fit your first double faults in the match but her dad and head coach

:14:01. > :14:08.will know that. What is that sign? A crosscourt? It might be a kiss.

:14:09. > :14:15.Doubted. Anyway, she has been broken in early on, mini-break.

:14:16. > :14:27.Not strictly speaking allowed to coach from there. You are on the

:14:28. > :14:30.week to week WTA Tour, but we forgive him for that. Given where we

:14:31. > :14:47.are in this first set. Remember I spoke about Garcia being

:14:48. > :14:59.a bit brittle in the big moments? A weak start for Garcia. Double fault.

:15:00. > :15:24.That return Mr by a huge margin. -- missed.

:15:25. > :15:28.A lot on the line here. First time for both players in the second week

:15:29. > :15:40.at Wimbledon. Not only great anticipation from

:15:41. > :16:07.Konta, but then she had to execute. The shot establishes a couple of

:16:08. > :16:27.mini-breaks in this first set tie-break.

:16:28. > :16:32.That is just below our noses in the commentary box is. It felt close but

:16:33. > :16:45.it felt out. At this stage, I think it's all

:16:46. > :16:50.about handling the nerves. You've got to remind yourself to have good

:16:51. > :16:52.footwork, maybe a little extra spin on your shots but continuing to have

:16:53. > :17:04.that same racket head speed. Interesting hearing Konta quoting

:17:05. > :17:11.Billie Jean King over the last couple of days, saying pressure is a

:17:12. > :17:13.privilege. This is the privilege she is in right now. Still with a

:17:14. > :19:05.mini-break in this first set. Sheers halfway there. Johanna Konta,

:19:06. > :19:10.halfway there to a Wimbledon quarterfinal. She has won the first

:19:11. > :19:22.set on the tie-break, 7-6. She just handle the big moments

:19:23. > :19:32.better. She was more solid. More sturdy, even after being bothered by

:19:33. > :19:38.that Hawk-Eye challenge. Last the next game quickly, but was able to

:19:39. > :19:41.get right back to work. That is so much the mental work that she has

:19:42. > :19:46.done over the last two or three years. Came into play at the crucial

:19:47. > :19:53.moment at the end stages of that set. The first serve percentage has

:19:54. > :19:59.got better for her. Garcia has got worse. At one point, that was where

:20:00. > :20:06.she was starting to shed water in that first set. Total unforced error

:20:07. > :20:11.for Konta, very stingy, so focused. And yet, still playing with

:20:12. > :20:15.authority, 12 winners. But there was not a graphic for nerves, and that

:20:16. > :20:22.is what Konta was able to just be a little bit more,. Calm about. Tom

:20:23. > :20:30.Brady, quarterback battlebus father said

:20:31. > :20:53.you can't measure how big his heart is.

:20:54. > :21:00.Once again, this championship enjoying glorious weather. Another

:21:01. > :22:56.beautiful day here in south-west London. Johanna Konta, 1-0.

:22:57. > :23:06.It is a point set up by the quality of the backhand. Konta's backhand

:23:07. > :23:13.crosscourt is really stellar. She just had said with such abandon,

:23:14. > :23:21.such freedom. And confidence. But overall, she's just with great

:23:22. > :23:29.conviction. She knows what she needs to do and she executing beautifully.

:23:30. > :23:39.This is where she is not having a left up at all. Is easy to lose

:23:40. > :24:12.concentration a bit, but Konta remaining so focused.

:24:13. > :24:22.Not sure what that little chat was about.

:24:23. > :24:33.Didn't pick up anything from that. Did you? I did not. Garcia really

:24:34. > :24:36.struggling with the power of Konta. She's just hitting the ball a bit

:24:37. > :24:38.late and often down the line she's missing them by more than three

:24:39. > :25:07.feet. The fourth one of those. She's

:25:08. > :25:08.getting a tremendous first serve percentage in. Three quarters of the

:25:09. > :26:12.time. Nice hop on that second serve out of

:26:13. > :26:22.the strike zone of Konta. Serving an awful lot to the forehand, capturing

:26:23. > :26:30.Cole off-guard there. -- capturing Konta off-guard there.

:26:31. > :26:46.I'm liking that Konta is trying something so completely off the wall

:26:47. > :26:52.because you don't see that from Garcia very much. Early stages of

:26:53. > :27:07.the second set, trying to change things up a little.

:27:08. > :27:15.Stole that point. I'm sure Garcia was already counting her chickens

:27:16. > :27:20.there. Yes, mentally, she could've been heading back to her chair. The

:27:21. > :27:25.shot that followed suggested that she was. That is an example of

:27:26. > :27:27.getting the ball back in play. The top ten do not give you that shot

:27:28. > :28:35.right there. It is a freebie. Greater racket work there from

:28:36. > :28:39.Garcia. A lot of spin off the Konta racket and Garcia had to use a lots

:28:40. > :29:05.of rest to get that ball back in play. -- wrist.

:29:06. > :29:11.Eventually she comes through her opening service game in the second

:29:12. > :29:17.set. That was so important. She had her spirit broken their after that

:29:18. > :29:23.40-0 lead, started to look little rattled but she righted the ship.

:29:24. > :30:17.The country's second best player at the moment.

:30:18. > :30:53.APPLAUSE Jo Konta, the late stages of that

:30:54. > :31:02.second round against Vekic, two or three times she got down 0-30 on her

:31:03. > :31:34.service game and she was so reliable from that point, really impressive.

:31:35. > :31:40.One of the many impressive things about Jo Konta is just how she

:31:41. > :31:45.compartmentalised as each point. If it's a bad point, it easily raised.

:31:46. > :31:48.She's got the memory of a goldfish, which is a very good thing for a

:31:49. > :32:02.tennis player to have! -- it is easily arranged.

:32:03. > :32:12.UMPIRE: The ball is called out. Successful Hawk-Eye in this contest

:32:13. > :32:33.so far. Let's see how this one false. -- how this one false.

:32:34. > :33:04.UMPIRE: Ms contact us two challenges remaining. -- misconduct.

:33:05. > :33:11.What a second serve! Off lying, down break point. -- off the line. Fourth

:33:12. > :33:25.or fifth break point today. Still smiling, that's good news! Had

:33:26. > :33:50.to have smarted a bit. Konta continuing to have to work

:33:51. > :33:58.behind that second serve. First time we're any frustration. Up to the

:33:59. > :34:13.Konta camp, so unified today, all in blue.

:34:14. > :34:21.For the first time in the match. And her father, Louis Paul, getting

:34:22. > :34:40.animated. Garcia with the break. Bad extremely pleased. -- dad

:34:41. > :34:44.extremely pleased. Walk that fine line of coach and father, with her

:34:45. > :34:58.every step of the way through stages in her career.

:34:59. > :35:02.Let's have a look, Tracy, and where Jo Konta has been directing her

:35:03. > :35:13.forehands. It is her thought on where perhaps

:35:14. > :35:18.Garcia might be weakest. Yes, two thirds of the shots off Konta's

:35:19. > :35:22.racket are going to the forehand, that is the weaker side, that is the

:35:23. > :35:29.side that can break down. Doesn't hit it quite has cleanly. The timing

:35:30. > :35:32.is not as solid. -- quite as cleanly. You're looking for anything

:35:33. > :35:40.that you are able to attack at this level.

:35:41. > :35:51.It will have a top hat on it in the next couple of years, this court.

:35:52. > :35:54.The speed just a bit of an the forehand for Konta. She's got some

:35:55. > :35:57.work to do. We could serve against her in the second set. -- break of

:35:58. > :36:25.serve. APPLAUSE

:36:26. > :36:33.That is just such a high risk shot from Garcia. Wasn't planted. Just

:36:34. > :36:43.gives herself no margin for error up the line. For me, for Garcia, for

:36:44. > :36:45.her to go to the next level, to jump in the top 15, top ten, it's going

:36:46. > :36:56.to be about smarter shot selection. Once again, she's been rattled a

:36:57. > :37:22.little bit by the breeze. I'm in no way saying that her dad

:37:23. > :37:25.hasn't done a fantastic job, but I wouldn't mind seeing Garcia at

:37:26. > :37:27.another coach as well, that the former tennis player and understand

:37:28. > :37:59.the ins and outs of the game. A stretch of the imagination to

:38:00. > :38:19.think it might be directed at anybody else.

:38:20. > :38:39.Quite the kick-serve. Got the short reply.

:38:40. > :39:17.She and her dad or in a good place at the moment. -- are in a good

:39:18. > :39:20.place. A decisive game. That's where playing the doubles last year would

:39:21. > :39:26.come into play, just feeling a little more comfortable moving

:39:27. > :39:30.forward. And playing on big stages, a big moment when she won the French

:39:31. > :39:39.Open with her fellow countrymen in 2016.

:39:40. > :39:45.Yes, that was such a moment. Both of them on their knees on the clay,

:39:46. > :40:23.hugging each other. A wonderful picture.

:40:24. > :40:37.APPLAUSE As well as Garcia,... Konta left

:40:38. > :40:38.with one shot short hanging in the middle. It is Garcia who took

:40:39. > :41:15.advantage of it. The forehand of Konta is starting to

:41:16. > :41:26.break down a bit. . SmackDown, one left. -- two down.

:41:27. > :42:45.Six of eight so far today, Konta. UMPIRE: Ms Garcia is challenging the

:42:46. > :42:49.call. The call is called in. She's challenging it, it may or may not be

:42:50. > :43:10.the third ace of Konta's match. It out. -- it is out.

:43:11. > :43:19.And there is the double break. And you're tempted to think that there

:43:20. > :43:23.is the second set. A long way to go, but, boy, the challenge system has

:43:24. > :43:35.not been kind to Konta today. A couple of crucial moments.

:43:36. > :43:44.So, that's her dad and coach, Louis Paul. If you read the regulations it

:43:45. > :43:52.says that coaching from the box at Grand Slams... What is this all

:43:53. > :43:58.about? We'll never know, of course. Only they know.

:43:59. > :44:11.Wow. Maybe he's just having a stretch... Perhaps.

:44:12. > :44:17.LAUGHTER A lot going on. And of course that

:44:18. > :44:23.can be so helpful when things start to be moving so quickly out on court

:44:24. > :44:33.and you're alone, just to get that one subtle signal, if that's what

:44:34. > :44:38.those are. He can virtually whisper in her ear for the next few minutes

:44:39. > :44:42.because they are at the same end. Caroline Garcia with two breaks of

:44:43. > :45:00.serve in the second set, 4-1, having lost the first on a tie-break.

:45:01. > :45:19.Everything comes down at the moment of impact. Upper body sends the ball

:45:20. > :46:04.into the net. 99 mph. Swinging away. It shows you

:46:05. > :46:11.the power isn't always at a premium. Placement is just as important.

:46:12. > :46:22.APPLAUSE You go after that return.

:46:23. > :46:29.The return is so mental along with physical, it's that ability to force

:46:30. > :46:42.yourself to move forward, that attacking mentality.

:46:43. > :46:48.She's always been one of the biggest servers in the women's game.

:46:49. > :46:58.Aggressive shot player who loves to give it a go. It's just so more

:46:59. > :47:00.reliable now. From Garcia, you were never sure if that serve was going

:47:01. > :47:15.to stand up. She's a game away from squaring

:47:16. > :47:19.things up. It's just so interesting how this match turned around so

:47:20. > :47:26.quickly. Konta seemed to have all of the momentum that she held in the

:47:27. > :47:29.first game. Garcia had that 40-0 game, got back to deuce, seemed like

:47:30. > :47:36.she was teetering there. Eventually held and has been gotten stronger

:47:37. > :48:20.since then. Served right on the line.

:48:21. > :48:43.It's the battle of the forehands. They are both targeting that side.

:48:44. > :48:52.Oh! That is genius. Great flexibility.

:48:53. > :49:36.This very awkward position to hit a winner.

:49:37. > :49:45.Garcia way inside the baseline, looking threatening.

:49:46. > :49:51.Konta holds. Garcia still has a little work to do to secure this

:49:52. > :50:06.second set. STUDIO: So, the changing ends here.

:50:07. > :50:08.We'll be right back with it. Over on BBC Two, Andy Murray has that gone

:50:09. > :50:17.to Centre Court for his fourth-round match against Roma Paire, that is on

:50:18. > :50:20.BBC Two. And Avon Court Two -- over on Court Two, Victoria Azarenka

:50:21. > :50:26.playing a top ten players for the first time since her comeback, and

:50:27. > :50:30.she has broken Simona Halep. That is on the BBC red button. Are we going

:50:31. > :50:38.to see another upset? Coco Vandeweghe has taken the first set.

:50:39. > :50:44.That's on the red button on the website. On court 12, Marin Cilic is

:50:45. > :50:54.a set and a break up in his match against Roberto Bautista Agut. One

:50:55. > :51:00.result to bring you. Garbine Muguruza, and is like a wonderful

:51:01. > :51:05.match, Muguruza coming through and a standing ovation for both players.

:51:06. > :51:10.Tennis of the highest quality. It means that Kerber will lose her

:51:11. > :51:16.number one ranking. That's what's happening elsewhere, back we go to

:51:17. > :51:22.Court Number One. COMMENTATOR: Carolina Garcia trots

:51:23. > :51:24.out, she's going to have the issue of the sunshine serving from this

:51:25. > :52:04.end, 5-2. Konta might be thinking, let's just

:52:05. > :52:06.test your mental resolve again. Ahead in this second set, but you

:52:07. > :52:46.still need to win it. Oh, that was powerful hitting from

:52:47. > :52:51.both players! Excellent from Konta, that last backhand slice approach.

:52:52. > :53:09.Taking it out and hitting it with accuracy.

:53:10. > :53:18.Yes, that was confirmed from the chair by the umpire. Let's see if

:53:19. > :53:26.Hawk-Eye can be Jo Konta's friend for the first time in this match.

:53:27. > :53:33.Finally, it goes her way. A couple of points, she's two breaks down,

:53:34. > :54:11.can she achieve one of them? UMPIRE: Miss Garcia has two

:54:12. > :55:02.challenges remaining. Oh! Konta refusing to allow the

:55:03. > :55:10.second set to end here. Such a well construct and point. Beforehand,

:55:11. > :55:17.sends Garcia the backhand. That last shot on the line.

:55:18. > :55:46.You hit the ball that hard, if you bounce up and impact just a little

:55:47. > :55:55.bit you're going to send that ball long.

:55:56. > :56:12.Ace at 109 mph. Not as many as Garcia, but that's her third.

:56:13. > :56:36.Jo has hit more on return service, though. 25 as opposed to 18.

:56:37. > :56:49.That backhand so solid. Continuing to test that forehand.

:56:50. > :58:22.APPLAUSE 5-1 becomes 5-4!

:58:23. > :58:34.There's still a little bit of soup left in this poll! -- in this bowl.

:58:35. > :58:38.And we've talked all match, Tracy, about, at this level, they know how

:58:39. > :58:42.to hit a tennis ball. It's controlling it mentally now. It's

:58:43. > :58:50.controlling the nerves. Konta was serving at 5-4 in that first set,

:58:51. > :58:59.and got broken for the first time. But she played a much more solid

:59:00. > :59:02.tie-break than Garcia. So now, for Garcia, really has handled this

:59:03. > :59:07.situation to try and stay in this match. To me, that's the part of

:59:08. > :59:13.Garcia's game that still needs to improve for her to move forward up

:59:14. > :59:17.into the elite of the game. Because we're playing the big points,

:59:18. > :59:22.playing the right shots. Because if you don't trust yourself at those

:59:23. > :59:29.big moments, if you have any doubts at all, there is evidence in your

:59:30. > :59:33.shot selection. The Garcia eyes of the father and the daughter tell you

:59:34. > :59:38.that she's about to relish this moment.

:59:39. > :59:44.Once again. Garcia comes out to serve for the second set, but this

:59:45. > :00:10.time it's 5-4. If you get extra nervous at this

:00:11. > :00:12.moment, you keep it simple. Go to simple patterns, more crosscourt,

:00:13. > :00:27.good footwork. Continued to target the Konta

:00:28. > :01:08.forehand. No nerves so far. No, she has been

:01:09. > :01:09.good and strong. One hour and 37 minutes. Three points to take this

:01:10. > :01:36.into a third set. Well played. She has the mental

:01:37. > :01:41.resolve to get the job done. And we are level with a set of peace. -- a

:01:42. > :01:49.peace. SUE BARKER: The Frenchwoman is right

:01:50. > :01:53.back in this match and a real fight for Jo Konta out on Court Number One

:01:54. > :01:58.and there's a real fight for Andy Murray over in Centre Court at the

:01:59. > :02:03.moment because he has been broken by the French man Benoit Paire. We knew

:02:04. > :02:15.he was unpredictable, a flashy player, but Murray is fighting back,

:02:16. > :02:19.15-13 -- 15-30. That is on BBC Two. Stay on BBC One for Johanna Konta.

:02:20. > :02:23.Andy Murray has two break points on this game. We told you this would be

:02:24. > :02:25.a magical Manic Monday and we will keep you up to date with Murray but

:02:26. > :02:37.now we go back to Court Number One. Garcia winning 11 of 16 at the net.

:02:38. > :02:42.Is coming more forward more frequently than Konta but what a big

:02:43. > :02:51.moment for both. We talked all fortnight about how wide-open the

:02:52. > :02:58.women's two or -- draw is. Now one set to make it to the quarters.

:02:59. > :03:07.Konta, her first serve drop down to 53%. More lack for Garcia on the

:03:08. > :03:18.second serve. A few more unforced errors for Konta van for Garcia.

:03:19. > :04:45.So a final set. For a place in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

:04:46. > :04:52.No secret what has to happen here. A good first service percentage and

:04:53. > :04:55.try to get on the front foot early in the point. You need to continue

:04:56. > :05:50.to be aggressive. A nice steady start to this third

:05:51. > :05:59.set. She wins big game without dropping a point. Talking about

:06:00. > :06:03.being aggressive, it's more important on this surface than any

:06:04. > :06:09.other. Once you get ahead, you've got your opponent on the move, off

:06:10. > :06:19.balance, it is so tough to get the point back to neutral if you are on

:06:20. > :06:24.defence. I guess that is dictated as wenches serving, by the quality of

:06:25. > :06:35.that first serve. -- when she's serving. In the next few minutes,

:06:36. > :07:15.she will be receiving serve. Still 0- one.

:07:16. > :07:26.That is the poems. -- pose. If you're going to go to the Konta

:07:27. > :07:31.backhand, you have to hit it with more quality than this. Jo will make

:07:32. > :07:40.you pay for shots like that. Fantastic return of. Now pushes the

:07:41. > :08:14.pressure over to Garcia's side. My goodness, that serve has been a

:08:15. > :08:48.friend of hers during this contest. It went from one ball boy to another

:08:49. > :08:54.and now it is back to where she once it.

:08:55. > :09:05.It works. UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:09:06. > :09:13.She is getting a change of racket because of the new balls, different

:09:14. > :09:18.string tensions. Most players are doing this now. They change right

:09:19. > :09:25.before the board changes, not during it. -- ball changes. Just the

:09:26. > :09:29.explosion of athleticism in that serve. The reason that they do it is

:09:30. > :09:35.because during the nine games that have been played, they've lost a

:09:36. > :09:39.pound or two of tension, so they want to get that right and if the

:09:40. > :10:05.racket string breaks, they will lose the points. They want fresh strings.

:10:06. > :10:11.Both occasions Konta lost her first serve in the second set, she lost

:10:12. > :10:34.the first point in those games. Garcia trying to move forward before

:10:35. > :11:49.she finished the shot. Garcia reading that ball well,

:11:50. > :11:52.timing it well out in front. Konta is winning 73% of her first service

:11:53. > :12:08.points. Safe and sound in a. Konta, third

:12:09. > :12:22.set, 2-1. SUE BARKER: Jo Konta holds on and

:12:23. > :12:25.has the advantage of serving first in this third set. We will be right

:12:26. > :12:29.back with this match on Court Number One but that update you what's

:12:30. > :12:32.happening over on Centre Court and look at the score, Murray a break of

:12:33. > :12:37.serve down. There has been three breaks in the first set about Benoit

:12:38. > :12:42.Paire is a tricky opponent for Andy today and he has been shouting at

:12:43. > :12:47.his team in the box as well, so not having a happy day at the office at

:12:48. > :12:49.the moment Andy Murray but he is fighting hard.

:12:50. > :12:56.That match is over on BBC Two so you can watch it on BBC Two. We are

:12:57. > :13:00.spoiled for choice. Murray on Centre Court on BBC Two. We head back to

:13:01. > :13:08.BBC Two to join Jo Konta. COMMENTATOR: We can see how Caroline

:13:09. > :13:15.Garcia became more aggressive in the second set. 10% more inside the

:13:16. > :13:25.baseline. It doesn't allow Konta as much time to get ready for her shot.

:13:26. > :13:31.It is a much better positioning. Finishing more often at the net as

:13:32. > :13:38.well. How does Konta push her back? She has to do the same, head the

:13:39. > :13:40.ball early, maintain head depth and get that first strike in the point.

:13:41. > :13:55.That first big hit. Garcia, 1-2. It's really a battle of the first

:13:56. > :14:01.serves. The battle for positioning. Staying

:14:02. > :14:23.close to the baseline. Garcia enjoyed herself as much she

:14:24. > :14:32.has so far at home Grand Slam in Paris last month. Reaching the

:14:33. > :14:41.quarterfinals for the first time. That the furthest she's travelled in

:14:42. > :14:44.a grand slam. Really impressive. 20 majors before Garcia got into the

:14:45. > :15:13.second week of a grand slam and now two in a row.

:15:14. > :15:21.Her forehand can get a bit big to take back, and that is where she

:15:22. > :15:30.struggles to get the point of contact cleanly sometimes. She

:15:31. > :15:31.would've been brought up on clay courts. Gets a bit more time on the

:15:32. > :15:46.red stuff. Yes, Banstead. Both women looking

:15:47. > :15:52.very composed at the moment -- bounced it. Garcia knows what it's

:15:53. > :15:57.like to have all the eyes of her home country at a grand slam, and

:15:58. > :16:03.the pressure, because Garcia said she would not play Fed cup this

:16:04. > :16:07.year. A bit of dissension amongst the Frenchwomen. It's not all peace

:16:08. > :16:15.and love over there at the moment. But right now, home expectation on

:16:16. > :16:29.the shoulders of the player on the other side of the net.

:16:30. > :16:33.Konta looking very comfortable. She does not look like a woman coming

:16:34. > :16:43.into this year's Wimbledon with only one main draw victory here at

:16:44. > :16:50.Wimbledon. It was one in five, the first round last year.

:16:51. > :16:58.It is like she has been playing here for years. She is 26 now. She was no

:16:59. > :17:03.teenage sensation. A couple of years ago, she was still outside the top

:17:04. > :17:07.100, so a late developer. Just getting used to all the hoopla which

:17:08. > :17:15.goes along with all the same she's enjoying right now. -- the Fame. You

:17:16. > :17:22.were used to it from a very early age. I don't know whether it makes

:17:23. > :17:27.it any easier, the sooner it comes to you, it's horses for courses, I

:17:28. > :17:45.suppose, isn't it? I was only 14. She is much more mature.

:17:46. > :17:54.Jo Konta stranded on an island all of her own. We haven't seen much

:17:55. > :18:10.finesse today. It's all about lots of power.

:18:11. > :18:17.That is a ripper. Konta thought from while that it might be going out. It

:18:18. > :18:35.seems to stop. But it didn't. Konta keeps her nose ahead in this

:18:36. > :18:58.deciding set, 3-2. Jo held on to stay ahead. Just to

:18:59. > :19:02.update you what's happening over on Centre Court, Andy Murray needs to

:19:03. > :19:09.break back against the French man Benoit Paire who has a 5-3 lead.

:19:10. > :19:15.That is on BBC Two, so that is your choice right now for Andy Murray,

:19:16. > :19:21.and BBC One for Johanna Konta. Maybe watch it on your tablet and then you

:19:22. > :19:26.can watch both at the same time! So much happening at Wimbledon.

:19:27. > :19:32.COMMENTATOR: Talking about Garcia, hugely encouraging for Johanna Konta

:19:33. > :19:35.so far. She won in Sydney before the Australian Open where she got the

:19:36. > :19:40.quarterfinals, and then I guess the biggest win of her career so far, on

:19:41. > :19:45.a Miami hard court where she beat Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki

:19:46. > :19:50.in the final, and that was a big event in Miami. Absolute

:19:51. > :19:59.confirmation that she is in the big league now. Absolutely. The Indian

:20:00. > :20:02.Wells Miami, those hard-core events are just below the level of the

:20:03. > :20:11.Grand Slams and to beat three top players like that back-to-back, it's

:20:12. > :20:17.really important for confidence. With each successive service game,

:20:18. > :20:19.as we get closer to the finish line here, the pressure ratchets up.

:20:20. > :21:02.Naseer, 2-3. -- Garcia, 2-3. So much of this is going to come

:21:03. > :21:20.down to nerves and who is more consistent on that forehand.

:21:21. > :22:03.Konta jumping all over that second serve of Garcia, but she was ready

:22:04. > :22:05.for it. She did so well. Flexibility to get down that low and then be

:22:06. > :22:36.back and ready in position. Just as she started to go and start

:22:37. > :22:38.the second serve, it sounded like a bottle dropped and she had to stop

:22:39. > :23:10.and reset. She continues to look watertight. A

:23:11. > :23:13.heavy, heavy serve. Played as good as two hours. It makes no

:23:14. > :23:26.difference. There is nothing to split these two.

:23:27. > :23:34.You get the feeling Konta are starting to relish these types of

:23:35. > :23:38.battles. That second round when she won 10-8- she said she knew it was

:23:39. > :23:54.going to be won at the last moment. Just kept fighting.

:23:55. > :23:58.She is going to need the guts and determination and ability that got

:23:59. > :24:08.her here. This is such high quality tennis.

:24:09. > :24:19.Garcia with 14 more winners than unforced.

:24:20. > :24:43.Konta with 11 more winners. Than unforced.

:24:44. > :25:20.The sixth winner for Garcia. No hesitation.

:25:21. > :25:27.We talk a lot about the transition of play between having served on the

:25:28. > :25:31.ball and getting yourself back in position to receive the return, and

:25:32. > :25:42.that is what Jo Konta is having to wrestle with at the moment.

:25:43. > :25:49.No need to worry about a return fare. Mathematically, she is two

:25:50. > :25:54.games away from the quarterfinals. In reality, it will seem a lot

:25:55. > :26:14.harder to her right now however. 4-3.

:26:15. > :26:27.Both players' service has been excellent. Konta's seventh ace of

:26:28. > :26:31.the match. Neither player has faced a break point this set so something

:26:32. > :26:38.has got to give somehow, but they have both been very impressive.

:26:39. > :26:44.Handling the pressure. They are smiling at the moment. They may or

:26:45. > :26:50.may not be smiling afterwards. They look like the types of guys who

:26:51. > :26:56.would be smiling what ever the results, to be honest. They will be

:26:57. > :27:01.having fun in Wimbledon tonight. Getting to the stage of the match

:27:02. > :27:39.where we have to remind ourselves to breeze. Third set. Garcia, 3-4. --

:27:40. > :27:45.brilliant ball striking. Couldn't hit three better shot than Konta did

:27:46. > :29:41.just there. And again, if you are getting your

:29:42. > :29:48.first serves in, you are getting a chance. Absolutely. 147 of the

:29:49. > :30:00.points have been four points or less. 34 points have been 37,

:30:01. > :30:02.actually, have been more than four shots, so just about that first

:30:03. > :30:15.opportunity to strike it big in the corner.

:30:16. > :30:24.It continues. Points about an long, extended. Three points overall that

:30:25. > :31:48.have been nine shots or longer. APPLAUSE

:31:49. > :31:51.Still haven't had a break point in this third set. Haven't had a deuce!

:31:52. > :32:04.Konta 5-4. STUDIO: Both players playing so well

:32:05. > :32:10.here. We can update you about what is happening on Santa court, Andy

:32:11. > :32:15.Murray has a battle on his hands. He is 6-5 up, but Benoit Paire is an

:32:16. > :32:21.unorthodox opponent, serving to stay in the first set. That is on BBC

:32:22. > :32:24.Two. That is your choice. Andy Murray on BBC Two, but he on BBC One

:32:25. > :32:32.we are heading back to see Garcia served to stay in the match.

:32:33. > :32:36.COMMENTATOR: Take us into the mind of a champion, Tracy. You Jo Konta,

:32:37. > :32:41.what are you concentrating on? What are you thinking at this point? Just

:32:42. > :32:46.the first point of the next game, which you want to accomplish. And

:32:47. > :32:51.you're reminding yourself of the style of play that you want to

:32:52. > :32:55.continue to play. It's being aggressive, trying to attack the

:32:56. > :32:59.Garcia forehand. But first and foremost is getting returns back and

:33:00. > :33:04.play. Which hasn't been easy against her serve. But now Garcia is having

:33:05. > :33:11.to play catch up, as we get deep into the third search is always

:33:12. > :33:16.going to be behind. -- into the third set, she's always going to be

:33:17. > :33:20.behind. Listen to the noise here on Court Number One! Jo Konta into the

:33:21. > :33:25.quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Caroline Garcia trying to stir some might

:33:26. > :33:41.serve to stay in this year's Championships.

:33:42. > :34:32.GASPS That is rock-solid! How impressive?!

:34:33. > :34:51.Great technique and depth on this backhand volley.

:34:52. > :34:57.We can see Konta trying to read the serve, just a little swing towards

:34:58. > :35:05.the left there, and back to the right.

:35:06. > :35:23.You can count on that backhand of Konta.

:35:24. > :35:59.What were you doing in 1984? You may not even have been born.

:36:00. > :36:00.That was the last time a British woman reached the quarterfinals of

:36:01. > :36:39.Wimbledon. The first since another Jo, Jo

:36:40. > :36:49.Durie, all those years ago. Visions of Johanna. And her boyfriend leads

:36:50. > :36:58.the applause. And sometimes, oftentimes, tennis matches are

:36:59. > :37:03.decided on the end of a point, and that one was. Phenomenal match from

:37:04. > :37:08.Jo Konta. She stayed so focused and so, in the big moments. Caroline

:37:09. > :37:13.Garcia so disappointed, but doing the right thing, waiting for Jo

:37:14. > :37:18.Konta to get organised. That's really good to see. It doesn't

:37:19. > :37:21.happen often enough, I think. For all of her disappointment, Garcia

:37:22. > :37:27.walking off with the woman who has just beaten her. Absolutely loved

:37:28. > :37:35.the reaction from Konta when she won. It was a look of happiness, but

:37:36. > :37:39.also relief. I mean, this is a dream of a young girl to get to the

:37:40. > :37:42.quarterfinals of Wimbledon. That's kind of really when you start to

:37:43. > :37:49.think, oh, it's within touching distance of the final. And she has

:37:50. > :37:55.worked extremely hard on her tennis game, on the mental game, created a

:37:56. > :38:01.terrific support team that she's so happy with. A big moment for Jo

:38:02. > :38:07.Konta. And she will play either Simona Halep or Victoria Azarenka.

:38:08. > :38:13.The mountain doesn't get any less steep. But my goodness, how well she

:38:14. > :38:17.has done to work her way into the Wimbledon quarterfinals. 6-4 in the

:38:18. > :38:25.third set. And she's going to have a few words with Rashid SAP. Johanna,

:38:26. > :38:29.huge congratulations. When we saw you after the final point, your

:38:30. > :38:35.reaction, what was your feeling at that moment? To be honest, it was

:38:36. > :38:39.such a tough match to play. She's really an impressive form. It is

:38:40. > :38:43.very, very hard to get any rhythm, really, at that, when she is serving

:38:44. > :38:47.so well and she really gets her first strike in. It was a bit breezy

:38:48. > :38:52.out there, which made it difficult for both of us. Overall, I was just

:38:53. > :38:56.happy that I was able to get enough returns in that game. I was just

:38:57. > :39:01.really trying to stay light on my feet and strong through my body,

:39:02. > :39:05.really, to try and neutralise her balls. It was a seesaw throughout

:39:06. > :39:10.the match. Definitely. There was very little between us today. I was

:39:11. > :39:12.very happy with how I was able to compete and not pay too much

:39:13. > :39:16.attention to necessarily the good things that she was doing, and

:39:17. > :39:22.trying to keep in mind all of the good things that I was doing. Endure

:39:23. > :39:26.Ched Evans Donna Vekic, you relished the tough situations -- in your

:39:27. > :39:31.match against Donna Vekic. What is it about tough challenges that you

:39:32. > :39:36.like so much? It's those positions, those situations, that I dream of

:39:37. > :39:41.Audrina. When I was a little girl, and even now, to be part of those

:39:42. > :39:46.battles -- that I dreamt of when I was a little girl. It's what it is

:39:47. > :39:51.to be a professional athlete. Speaking of dreams, you are now the

:39:52. > :39:54.first woman into the quarterfinal of Wimbledon -- the first British woman

:39:55. > :39:59.into the quarterfinal of Wimbledon since Jo Durie in 1984. What does

:40:00. > :40:04.that mean to you? It's very special. I'm very excited about that. I'm

:40:05. > :40:10.looking forward to playing against a piano well done, due to

:40:11. > :40:17.congratulations. She was rock-solid, -- to playing a game. Andy Murray is

:40:18. > :40:18.5-0 up in the tie-break. Let's join this match with Boris Becker and

:40:19. > :40:35.Andrew Castle. BORIS BECKER: The way that this

:40:36. > :40:42.first set has been going, I'm not surprised at the score. ANDREW

:40:43. > :40:51.CASTLE: Do you think Murray was at the limit of his play? Up to the

:40:52. > :40:54.limit of unpredictability. A tie-break. Complicated shots are not

:40:55. > :41:17.what you were looking for. It's simplicity often.

:41:18. > :41:29.APPLAUSE You do not want to lose a break of

:41:30. > :42:06.set with Murray. And its way! 7-1, first set to

:42:07. > :42:07.Murray. From 4-2 down in that first set, he was under threat but came

:42:08. > :42:26.through. It is interesting. Each nation's

:42:27. > :42:30.players has a national characteristic, just as a nation's

:42:31. > :42:34.football team might. French players are known to make a lot of shots,

:42:35. > :42:38.they are pretty flamboyant on the court, they can hit great winners.

:42:39. > :42:43.Benoit Paire is one of them. Andy Murray very rarely goes anywhere,

:42:44. > :42:48.especially at Wimbledon committee is so, so solid. His record against

:42:49. > :42:54.French players is remarkable. He has won 25 matches in a row against

:42:55. > :43:04.them, hasn't lost 2142 and 2.5 years -- hasn't lost 21 42.5 years. Out of

:43:05. > :43:10.the 16 players, we have 15 different nations. It is good to hear how

:43:11. > :43:15.international tennis has become. Every nation has their own

:43:16. > :43:22.superstar. It's just Spain has two, Bautista Agut and Nadal.

:43:23. > :43:37.And Mannarino. Actually, Mannarino and Benoit Paire. Well, he's half

:43:38. > :43:40.Italian! Mannarino. Is interesting, his game fits into the French way of

:43:41. > :43:51.playing. Perhaps that flamboyance. Very readily misses a shot in a

:43:52. > :43:57.tough situation. He's a handful. 105 match wins on grass over his career,

:43:58. > :44:05.Andy Murray. And a winner at the Championships, two of the last four

:44:06. > :44:12.years. So, a setup. After they've played a set that saw four breaks of

:44:13. > :44:36.serve. What will this entail? Set number two.

:44:37. > :44:43.That is the key for Murray, to start where he left off on the

:44:44. > :44:48.tie-breaker. Ernie Els is with us today, four times a Major champion,

:44:49. > :44:49.he is here with his daughter. He is called the big easy. He certainly

:44:50. > :45:05.is, what a golf swing. Murray is well advised to push the

:45:06. > :45:25.buttons a little bit. Oh, this is a tough time for the

:45:26. > :45:28.French player. He's really feeling this. He's thrown his best shots.

:45:29. > :45:51.And he's getting nowhere. No, well, will be if he hangs around

:45:52. > :45:59.mentally in this match. -- we will see if he hangs around. Benoit Paire

:46:00. > :46:03.quickly a break down. And after winning four points to hold serve to

:46:04. > :46:07.get to the tie-breaker, he lost seven out of eight in the

:46:08. > :46:14.tie-breaker and four straight there on his serve. Renders, really. --

:46:15. > :46:25.horrendous. A score has just gone through on our computer. Peter

:46:26. > :46:28.Korda's kid, said Korda in the juniors, apparently he has just won

:46:29. > :47:13.a match. -- Sebastien Korda. GASPS

:47:14. > :47:28.APPLAUSE Murray is clearly increasing his

:47:29. > :47:35.quality of play. He's so enjoying it, too, is in the?

:47:36. > :47:57.He's just not missing. First failure of the match.

:47:58. > :48:42.Not an easy shot should try this one in the air.

:48:43. > :49:39.-- to try this one. His brother, Jamie, a very

:49:40. > :49:44.successful duo. UMPIRE: Let, first service.

:49:45. > :50:16.Trying to stop that momentum that Murray has now. UMPIRE: Mr Paire

:50:17. > :50:23.challenging the call, left centreline, ball is called out.

:50:24. > :50:41.UMPIRE: Let, second service. .

:50:42. > :50:55.crowd GASPS That wasn't unintended drop shot.

:50:56. > :51:45.One of the best calls, actually. You almost feel this urge of playing

:51:46. > :51:47.a drop shot is embedded. It does become a habit, doesn't it? He just

:51:48. > :52:08.can't get it out of his system. He makes his own life more difficult

:52:09. > :52:13.than it should be. He's a bit of a shot maker, a good athlete, he's got

:52:14. > :52:21.a good serve, there's no need for these drop shots. Look at that

:52:22. > :52:25.backhand. UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call, left first

:52:26. > :52:40.sideline, the ball is called in. One of the finest in the game.

:52:41. > :52:49.Oh, out! LAUGHTER

:52:50. > :52:53.There must be a huge temptation to stay down there. That little bees of

:52:54. > :52:55.grass there is not worn out, it's lovely, it's like being in Richmond

:52:56. > :53:06.Park or something! It's the only court in the world

:53:07. > :53:13.where you actually enjoy falling down and staying down!

:53:14. > :53:23.I've done it a few times in my life. Pharos are softer courts than this

:53:24. > :53:28.to fall over on. This is very firm, like a hard court -- there is often

:53:29. > :53:40.cause. Mind you, you have dived on a hard court.

:53:41. > :53:46.You know, there's not a tennis player out there that doesn't play

:53:47. > :53:49.golf. And there's not a golfer out there who doesn't think he can have

:53:50. > :53:52.a bit of a chop around on the tennis court, and they always do when

:53:53. > :53:56.they're playing on the European tour. We've seen only else up there.

:53:57. > :54:03.And there's Peter Alliss, Mr and misses a list up in the Royal box,

:54:04. > :54:06.it's a delight to see him, he's a brilliant commentator. So many

:54:07. > :54:10.tennis players have produced golfers. Why have they let their

:54:11. > :54:15.offspring go that way?! The rewards are buried- so what about Jay

:54:16. > :54:20.Berger? His kid, Daniel Berger, is on the US tour. I have mentioned

:54:21. > :54:24.Peter Korda. Jessica won the US Open, his daughter. Sebastien is

:54:25. > :54:30.playing here in the juniors, and winning in the Boys' Singles.

:54:31. > :54:34.Another child has gone pro now as well. There is any else, with his

:54:35. > :54:41.daughter, who looks so much like a mum, Sam, that I thought it was!

:54:42. > :54:44.Four-time Major champion. I had the pleasure of playing with both

:54:45. > :54:57.gentlemen. With Ernie? With Ernie, and leave. In fact in South Africa

:54:58. > :55:02.-- and Lee. I'm a hacker, I Mahan the gap. I've seen you play. You're

:55:03. > :55:07.playing -- I am a handicapper. You're playing with the big easy,

:55:08. > :55:13.easy to doing great. Then he takes half a swing and it goes 350 yard! I

:55:14. > :55:18.think, thank God, thank God I play tennis and not golf! I saw you

:55:19. > :55:40.playing with Stefan Edberg and Can. Is a good golfer. -- in towns.

:55:41. > :55:43.It is a beautiful course next door to Wimbledon Park, where I play

:55:44. > :56:27.sometimes. One of the few drop shots that

:56:28. > :57:02.appear to be played successfully. Out of nowhere, he hits these

:57:03. > :57:33.backhand returns. GASPS

:57:34. > :57:54.APPLAUSE Murray returning the favour here.

:57:55. > :57:59.Murray went through a phase a few years back when he was playing too

:58:00. > :58:04.many drop shots. That made it a national crisis, almost!

:58:05. > :58:30.His first serve is very important if he wants to retain his title.

:58:31. > :59:32.Unbelievable backhand, right around the forehand. Who does that?!

:59:33. > :59:47.It looks like Paire has regrouped and recovered from the

:59:48. > :59:52.disappointment of losing the first set. UMPIRE: Let, first service.

:59:53. > :00:21.Finding his timings again. No British player has managed to

:00:22. > :00:27.retain a grand slam title since Fred Perry in 1935 and 1936 at Wimbledon.

:00:28. > :00:33.Remarkable sporting record he's putting together, made even more

:00:34. > :00:37.remarkable by the era of Nadal, Federer and Djokovic, also Wawrinka

:00:38. > :00:41.and a couple of others, but it's been an amazing generation. It would

:00:42. > :00:47.have been easy for Murray to have been satisfied with five in the

:00:48. > :00:55.world, or four or three, but to go all the way to number one, including

:00:56. > :00:58.winning the World Tour Finals in London, that demonstrated his

:00:59. > :01:04.commitment to what he does for a living and his love for it as well.

:01:05. > :01:11.When he comes here, he gets 5% or 10% better such as the support he

:01:12. > :01:15.gets. These two courts today are graced with some of the greatest

:01:16. > :01:20.players of all time. Fantastic schedule. I was watching Roger

:01:21. > :01:25.Federer practice yesterday and frankly it's just a work of art to

:01:26. > :01:31.watch him play. I know you coached Novak Djokovic, but for me, the way

:01:32. > :01:38.Federer strikes the ball is still unique. Rather beautiful to watch.

:01:39. > :01:56.This is a massive day, the second Monday of the Championships.

:01:57. > :02:36.Please don't start it now. Please! Stick to the routine.

:02:37. > :02:44.Paire really lost his concentration at the start of the second set, lost

:02:45. > :02:48.his serve, winning no points in the process, having been swept aside in

:02:49. > :03:50.the tie-break, but now it's all to play for in the second set.

:03:51. > :04:06.He went through a phase of punching his racket strings until he started

:04:07. > :04:08.taking the skin off his knuckles. A moment of indecision cost him the

:04:09. > :04:54.point. So it says sixth break of serve in

:04:55. > :05:00.this match. It started with the drop-shot in that very first point.

:05:01. > :05:04.It's when he went the wrong way. It also sends a message to the opponent

:05:05. > :05:21.that you're wavering with your concentration.

:05:22. > :05:27.Paire asking himself why he is missing so much on his forehand. Or

:05:28. > :05:41.maybe he said I regret nothing! Emotions are flaring up from both

:05:42. > :06:07.players. I'm not sure I agree with the

:06:08. > :06:18.umpire. He said you waited too long. Let's listen. It's the same. He said

:06:19. > :06:23.challenge. Surely if the ball had not bounced out and was still in

:06:24. > :06:31.play down the other end, he should be allowed to challenge.

:06:32. > :06:41.It's borderline sometimes. You've got Hawk-Eye there. I think he

:06:42. > :07:02.should have been able to use that. Never mind.

:07:03. > :07:11.Second service mess. That hurt. -- mess. Doesn't want to give Paire the

:07:12. > :09:20.lead back in the second set. Missed opportunities for Andy

:09:21. > :09:29.Murray. Just to break again and go ahead. But he's 4-3 down. You do go

:09:30. > :09:33.through phases in matches where the concentration comes in and out,

:09:34. > :09:38.especially over the ebbs and flows of a five set match, which can be

:09:39. > :09:44.even more pronounced. It's normal in a way, you can't be perfect all the

:09:45. > :09:49.time, you can't have concentration levels, consistency, quality of

:09:50. > :09:51.form. You go through dips. Obviously the top players less than the others

:09:52. > :10:11.which is why they are top players. The ball was good or on the line?

:10:12. > :10:22.The ball was good so you saved challenge? Thank you. The ball was

:10:23. > :10:28.good so you saved me a challenge! It did look good. He sees that the ball

:10:29. > :10:31.is going to go along and he says challenge. I think he should be

:10:32. > :10:39.allowed to challenge in that situation. It's gone. Always a

:10:40. > :10:45.question of the umpire having the last word. But it's another thing

:10:46. > :10:50.that both players have to worry about. The court has microphones and

:10:51. > :10:57.the emotions are flaring up. Hopefully not the wrong words are

:10:58. > :11:01.coming out. In our days, we had the luxury of pretty much saying what we

:11:02. > :11:22.wanted and nobody could hear it! That has changed.

:11:23. > :11:30.I tell you what, Paire looks confident. Playing his best tennis

:11:31. > :12:30.of the match so far. Really taking the speed out of the

:12:31. > :12:33.rally and almost punching the ball back, hoping Paire would miss. He

:12:34. > :12:45.does him the favour. I'm not sure whether Paire hurt

:12:46. > :13:46.himself there. A little. It's bleeding a bit. A team of

:13:47. > :14:53.surgeons out here for that! Daddy is clapping too hard! It's a

:14:54. > :15:42.game for all ages. Good to see the little ones out here.

:15:43. > :15:55.Too big, too good. On the Paire forehand, it's being worked over

:15:56. > :16:00.again at the business end of the set. Anything short, anything

:16:01. > :16:07.pushed, Murray is trying to lean on it. That was hit with authority.

:16:08. > :16:35.This is so irritating. It landed about a centimetre too far. He

:16:36. > :16:54.couldn't get behind it, the Frenchman.

:16:55. > :17:21.Eight straight points for Andy Murray as Benoit Paire's

:17:22. > :17:29.concentration of apparatus from 15-0 up at 4-3. Amazing. -- his

:17:30. > :17:33.concentration evaporates. The trainer had been called, but I would

:17:34. > :17:39.have thought that can wait. Ever since he fell down and asked for the

:17:40. > :17:46.trainer, it was going south for Paire. He called for the trainer and

:17:47. > :17:56.lost eight consecutive points. The trainer was going to treat him and

:17:57. > :18:01.he told the umpire it was fine. It's his concentration, it's nothing to

:18:02. > :18:06.do with his knee or falling over, it was concentration. He has so many

:18:07. > :18:12.shots to choose from and such natural of ability, such a wonderful

:18:13. > :18:15.athlete, but he loses concentration and you can't lose concentration

:18:16. > :18:20.against the world number one on Centre Court and expect to win.

:18:21. > :18:29.That's been his dilemma all his career. 28, the French number six.

:18:30. > :18:33.World number 46. He's been as high as 18 in the world. The world number

:18:34. > :19:01.one serving for a two set lead. How easy is that? That's why nobody

:19:02. > :19:11.likes to play Paire, because of shots like this. Unpredictable in

:19:12. > :19:50.person. He has the best of shots and the worst of shots.

:19:51. > :19:58.When he shapes up for a backhand, you just know he's going to do

:19:59. > :20:05.something with it. Murray was in no Man's Land, didn't follow up on the

:20:06. > :20:30.backhand. Made it easier for Paire to find a passing shot. 0-30.

:20:31. > :20:38.Ivan with his sunglasses. He knows how difficult it is to control your

:20:39. > :21:13.temper on Centre Court. It was only 113 mph, the first

:21:14. > :22:42.serve. Losing a little bit of speed right now.

:22:43. > :23:30.I know how he feels. Went back for a second bite after that as well. He

:23:31. > :24:10.really is uptight. He knows if he can hang on here, it's 2-0.

:24:11. > :24:32.Often a second serve, not for a moment, not for one single

:24:33. > :24:39.nanosecond, was Paire up in that rally. Wonderful pressure from

:24:40. > :25:00.Murray. Two points from a two set lead, again.

:25:01. > :25:43.The moment he gave the initiative back, the Frenchman took advantage.

:25:44. > :25:56.This time Paire quick to challenge. It was a driven backhand from Andy

:25:57. > :26:02.Murray. He is break point down. If this is out, we are back at 5-5. All

:26:03. > :26:17.good. Steady! Speculative challenge. From Benoit

:26:18. > :26:28.Paire. He has one challenge remaining. Acta deuce. -- back to

:26:29. > :27:15.deuce. UMPIRE: Let, first service.

:27:16. > :27:39.It's a way! Two set to Andy Murray, who fights off break points in this

:27:40. > :27:49.game. This is not easy, but he is two set up.

:27:50. > :28:03.(STUDIO) Andy Murray hangs on and that will please them on the hill.

:28:04. > :28:06.We'll be right back with that match. On Court number one, Rafael Nadal.

:28:07. > :28:13.This happened just before they went on court. Going through his routine.

:28:14. > :28:19.Keep your eye on Rafa. Anger! He hit his head on the door. Laughing with

:28:20. > :28:25.Gilles Muller and he gives his head rather. I think that hurt. It

:28:26. > :28:31.sounded bad. That will teach in. He's always like a coiled spring.

:28:32. > :28:36.Walking onto court with a big smile for his fourth-round match. He won't

:28:37. > :28:40.be smiling right now, look at the score. We always said this would be

:28:41. > :28:46.a difficult match for him. Lefty with a big serve, Gilles Muller.

:28:47. > :28:54.Rafa in some trouble. That match is on BBC Two if you want to watch it.

:28:55. > :29:00.On Court three, this is the feature match on the red button. Tomas

:29:01. > :29:06.Berdych, former finalist, has taken the first set from Dominic Thiem. On

:29:07. > :29:11.serve in the second. That's on the red button. On Court Two,

:29:12. > :29:17.interesting match. Last year 's finalists, big server, Milos Raonic,

:29:18. > :29:22.against Alexander Zverev, really talented. A breakthrough year this

:29:23. > :29:27.year. That match is on the red button and the website. Good news

:29:28. > :29:35.for the British number one, Joe Konta. This was match point against

:29:36. > :29:41.Caroline Garcia of France. -- Jo. How emotional it is to get through

:29:42. > :29:46.to the last eight. The first British woman to get through to the

:29:47. > :29:51.quarterfinals since Jo Durie in 1984. Wonderful performance from

:29:52. > :29:53.her. Really gutsy effort. Garcia is a difficult opponent. Let's go to

:29:54. > :30:24.Centre Court. Lost his serve to love, opening

:30:25. > :30:56.service game of the second set. He has come back from two sets down

:30:57. > :30:57.on one occasion, just once. He beat Nick Kyrgios at the Australian Open

:30:58. > :31:21.in 2014. Paire was trying another drop shot

:31:22. > :31:23.or God knows what else. He ended up, for once, with a conservative

:31:24. > :31:38.backhand down-the-line. Murray's got to relax a little. He's

:31:39. > :31:51.up two sets to love. There's no need for him to do all

:31:52. > :32:03.this. The prize for the winner will be a

:32:04. > :32:10.match in the quarter final against Sam Querrey or Kevin Anderson. Just

:32:11. > :32:19.for the record, Andy Murray leads Querry 7-1 in the head to head and

:32:20. > :32:23.Kevin Anderson 6-2. That will be a totally different match, because

:32:24. > :32:28.both players have typical grass court big serves, come into the net

:32:29. > :32:52.type of guys. He's just got to hold on now.

:32:53. > :32:57.You don't want to give your opponent hope that this match is not in your

:32:58. > :33:49.hands yet. I find the first serve of Murray a

:33:50. > :34:13.little bit slower than last year all together.

:34:14. > :34:20.That's well played from the Frenchman.

:34:21. > :34:23.Just knocking the half-volley deep rather than playing a drop volley,

:34:24. > :34:29.which probably was his favoured shot.

:34:30. > :34:59.Murray was already racing towards the net.

:35:00. > :35:03.Another interesting stat is that Murray won as many points on his

:35:04. > :35:15.first serve than on his second serve.

:35:16. > :35:28.You should be way up on your first serve, winning points percentage.

:35:29. > :35:42.UMPIRE: Game Murray. New balls please.

:35:43. > :35:50.He's winning the same percentage on first as second serve. I wonder if

:35:51. > :35:54.Murray has taken a little bit off his first serve in this match? We

:35:55. > :36:05.noted at the beginning he got 16 of his first 17 serves in.

:36:06. > :36:16.UMPIRE: Mr Murray challenging the call. It's too late, you cannot look

:36:17. > :36:22.at the ball. It's too late. He did challenge before he looked at the

:36:23. > :36:27.ball. I challenged immediately, then I asked for the ball afterwards.

:36:28. > :36:32.That's exactly right. I went like this immediately. That's why you

:36:33. > :36:36.said challenge. Then you stopped me from doing it when I asked for the

:36:37. > :36:40.ball. That's all true. Yes, he should back off here. He's a good

:36:41. > :36:43.umpire. I said challenge immediately. It's a

:36:44. > :36:54.simple mistake that he's made. He's a good guy. That's not true. That

:36:55. > :37:07.serve was about this far long as well.

:37:08. > :37:24.He challenged straight away. The umpire acknowledged that.

:37:25. > :37:43.The sad thing for Murray on that occasion was that the serve was out.

:37:44. > :37:49.That's a really weird Mohammed, the umpire losing his concentration a

:37:50. > :37:55.bit. He acknowledged the challenge, first point of the game, this game

:37:56. > :38:03.could be totally different now. Not only players make mistakes.

:38:04. > :38:21.Prefer es too. -- referees too.

:38:22. > :38:31.And away it goes. Murray is a bit at a cross-patch

:38:32. > :38:39.with the umpire. Understandably on this occasion.

:38:40. > :38:54.He's admirably letting that go. The game is gone. No, here he is. I went

:38:55. > :38:57.wait, let me see... You said challenge, because you heard me

:38:58. > :39:10.saying challenge. You said challenge. Then you stopped me from

:39:11. > :39:13.doing it when I asked. No, no, no. Did Mohammed just say it's my

:39:14. > :39:19.mistake then? I haven't heard that one. I think he did. If he did,

:39:20. > :39:23.that's really good of him. That's why he's a good umpire.

:39:24. > :39:33.So he has challenged, then he gets the ball. Then the umpire says no.

:39:34. > :39:39.That's just one of these things that you've got to know what's going on.

:39:40. > :39:44.Andy stood his ground. The umpire has admitted he made a mistake. And

:39:45. > :39:50.we move on. It's good to see that nobody's perfect. You make a

:39:51. > :39:56.mistake, you can admit it. It was not a game changing mistake either.

:39:57. > :41:27.But Murray did have a point. Three unforced errors by the

:41:28. > :41:49.forehand of Paire. Shame on the right-hand side. His

:41:50. > :41:50.physical trainer. Physio and do a bit of everything, strength and

:41:51. > :41:55.conditioning. Good to see the concentration of

:41:56. > :42:04.Murray back. The other guy feels it right away.

:42:05. > :43:15.It's just an edge of the game. Good job Murray is going for his

:43:16. > :43:17.towel here because Benoit Paire would have served by now. He's ready

:43:18. > :43:52.to go, rushing himself. Maybe he's got another barbeque to

:43:53. > :43:53.go to like on Friday night. The Frenchman. He's got to get the

:43:54. > :44:12.shopping in or something. What an amazing player. You almost

:44:13. > :44:19.get the impression the less time he has to think, the better he is

:44:20. > :44:45.UMPIRE: Mr Murray challenging the call, left farside line. Yes, I am

:44:46. > :45:02.challenging the call. UMPIRE: Call stands.

:45:03. > :45:04.He should have played along with that and said you can't. Good sense

:45:05. > :45:31.of humour by Andy. ( APPLAUSE

:45:32. > :46:05.Solid as a rock. The depth on the return got the

:46:06. > :46:18.short reply from Paire. Paire is fighting here.

:46:19. > :47:16.He doesn't want to give up just yet. What an amazing game. Paire looked

:47:17. > :47:26.out of it. Excellent fight and a decent hold. SUE BARKER: What a long

:47:27. > :47:32.game that was as well. We'll be right back on Centre in a moment.

:47:33. > :47:37.Over on Court No 1, Rafael Nadal playing Gilles Muller, the battle of

:47:38. > :47:42.the lefties. This was set point for Gilles Muller at 5-3, 40-0 in the

:47:43. > :47:47.first set. That swinging left handed serve has been causing Rafa some

:47:48. > :47:52.problems. He took the first set 6-3. That was a short time ago. We can

:47:53. > :48:00.see now that we've moved it on into the fourth game. Rafa with, no

:48:01. > :48:04.Gilles Muller with two points for to take it to 2-2. Rafa is not sure,

:48:05. > :48:19.that must be a challenge. That's on BBC Two. Elsewhere, Sasha Zverev is

:48:20. > :48:22.playing Milos Raonic. Zverev beat Raonic in a tournament earlier this

:48:23. > :48:31.year. Going well for the 20-year-old. Over on court number

:48:32. > :48:36.three, Tomas Berdych has taken the first set 6-3 against Dominic Thiem.

:48:37. > :48:40.Thiem is two points from taking the second set. That's on the red button

:48:41. > :48:46.and the BBC Sport website. That's what's happening, some of the

:48:47. > :48:53.matches elsewhere. Back to Centre. COMMENTATOR: The sun is out here on

:48:54. > :48:53.Centre Court. Great to see Rod Laver in attendance. Now there's a

:48:54. > :49:28.champion. He's up at 72% first serves in. For

:49:29. > :49:31.the tournament, 61%. That is a significant increase. He must be

:49:32. > :49:47.taking something off that first serve.

:49:48. > :50:01.I Ivan, Jamie and Andy will have discussed strategies and this is

:50:02. > :50:05.what they've come up with. That's exactly the service game to

:50:06. > :50:11.illustrate the strategy, which was, if you keep on holding your serve

:50:12. > :50:15.nicely, pressure builds and somebody like Benoit Paire, his character,

:50:16. > :50:21.his sort of tennis, he can exleed a bit. -- explode a bit. Score-wise it

:50:22. > :50:24.works. It's just flirting with disaster in the first set. Broken

:50:25. > :50:32.twice. Murray seems to be in control of the

:50:33. > :52:19.match. Benoit Paire has played against

:52:20. > :52:24.number one players before, as somebody of his ranking, you'd think

:52:25. > :52:29.that would be the case. Back in 2012, in Basle he lost to Roger

:52:30. > :52:34.Federer, playing Federer in Basle is like playing him here. You're not

:52:35. > :52:40.allowed to beat him. Last year, Boris, you will have coached against

:52:41. > :52:46.Benneteau. Were you in -- against Benoit. Were you in Cincinnati? Yes,

:52:47. > :52:52.I was. Know rock got him that time? Two sets. He nicked a set. Do you

:52:53. > :52:56.miss coaching? I had wonderful times, an amazing three years. I

:52:57. > :52:59.don't regret a thing. But it was time to move on. I'm comfortable

:53:00. > :53:03.sitting next to you. You've come down in the world, old boy. Working

:53:04. > :53:08.for the BBC. My favourite tournament. You've gone back up in

:53:09. > :53:15.the world. This is your neck of the woods, isn't it? Yeah, I live a

:53:16. > :53:24.couple of miles away. Called this home for many years.

:53:25. > :53:28.A roof on Centre Court that hasn't been required so far, apart than to

:53:29. > :53:32.give the court a bit of a rest from the bright sunshine and very hot

:53:33. > :53:36.temperatures that we had in the first week.

:53:37. > :53:40.Up to 43 degrees Celsius, the grass was wilting. They rested it, put the

:53:41. > :53:42.air conditioning in. How nice if you're a piece of grass to have air

:53:43. > :53:50.conditioning! UMPIRE: Mr Murray challenging the

:53:51. > :54:04.call right centre service line, ball is called out.

:54:05. > :54:49.UMPIRE: Mr Murray has one challenge remaining.

:54:50. > :55:01.Any part of the racquet will do. That one got a little bit low. He

:55:02. > :55:02.managed to get some string on it. Yeah, it looked dangerous when he

:55:03. > :56:26.started preparing for it. Some threat here on the Murray

:56:27. > :56:31.serve. He was really dictating the rally,

:56:32. > :56:32.standing on the line. Trying to control the tempo, making his

:56:33. > :57:08.opponent run left to right. Good chance on that second serve.

:57:09. > :57:42.Paire's favourite shot, the backhand return.

:57:43. > :58:43.A few unforced errors now giving Paire break point.

:58:44. > :58:51.APPLAUSE Strong play.

:58:52. > :59:17.Under pressure. Giving his box a long stare.

:59:18. > :59:27.It's a little bit heavy handed there, for a man with touch, he'll

:59:28. > :59:29.be disappointed not to have found the court. There

:59:30. > :59:42.-- court there. UMPIRE: For me, it's long, yeah.

:59:43. > :00:35.Having a game now with the umpire. Murray is ready to take the attack

:00:36. > :00:54.to the opposition right now. He wants to finish this.

:00:55. > :01:07.Just wide. Murray does have a challenge remaining. I saw it the

:01:08. > :01:16.same way as the line umpire. No challenge from Murray. He doesn't

:01:17. > :01:18.want to be out of challenges at 4-4. He has a tendency to put the umpire

:01:19. > :02:22.on the spot. His coach was a quarterfinalist in

:02:23. > :02:45.1991, beating Pat Cash that year. UMPIRE: Mr Paire is challenging the

:02:46. > :02:49.call, left service line, the ball was called out. If this game was all

:02:50. > :02:53.about the complexities and the difficult shots, fine, but it's

:02:54. > :02:57.always about who does the basics best. You cannot double fault at

:02:58. > :03:55.this point, game point up. That is pressure telling! After a

:03:56. > :04:12.big hold to get to 4-4, there's the break.

:04:13. > :04:19.Of all the myriad statistics and numbers that come out of a computer

:04:20. > :04:25.and are filed out into the ether, some of it is interesting and some

:04:26. > :04:29.of it isn't. Interestingly for me, Andy Murray at Wimbledon, as a

:04:30. > :04:35.competitor, has never lost to anyone ranked lower than 19th in the world

:04:36. > :04:44.at Wimbledon. I think that's amazing. He lost to David Nalbandian

:04:45. > :04:48.at number 19, back in 2005 on debut. I used a hat -- I saw the same

:04:49. > :04:55.statistic and I thought the same thing. He is brutal, he knows when

:04:56. > :05:00.the game has heat. He's a competitor at heart, he loves to compete, he

:05:01. > :05:05.loves to challenge anybody. Especially on Centre Court. He's one

:05:06. > :05:12.of the toughest players to play out there. He usually finds a way to

:05:13. > :05:22.win, even though he was aided by Benoit Paire today. Nevertheless,

:05:23. > :06:01.history speaks for itself. Murray is serving for the match.

:06:02. > :06:40.Only the second time he's serve and volley. Two hours and 19 minutes.

:06:41. > :06:51.That's very good timing from Murray. He is seeing the ball big. At

:06:52. > :06:57.Queen's Club when he lost to Jordan Thompson... Will it affect his

:06:58. > :07:05.build-up? Have his chances at Wimbledon been shattered?

:07:06. > :07:10.First-round loss. No! It was certainly a worrying moment, though.

:07:11. > :07:29.It's never good to lose. He's done this many times over.

:07:30. > :08:40.A tenth consecutive quarterfinal at the Championships for Andy Murray!

:08:41. > :08:42.Straight sets over Paire. The perfect start to the second week of

:08:43. > :09:13.Wimbledon for him. And he continues, Andy Murray, to

:09:14. > :09:18.put French players to the sort. It's been over two years since he's lost

:09:19. > :09:23.one of them. Benoit Paire was certainly an entertaining man to

:09:24. > :09:27.watch. He was 4-2 up in the first set. He could have done a couple of

:09:28. > :09:33.things differently but ultimately he's lost in three straight sets.

:09:34. > :09:37.When the fighting was at its most intense, there was only one man in

:09:38. > :09:49.it. After the first set was done, you had the feeling... Both players

:09:50. > :09:53.getting a nice over Asian. -- of Asian.

:09:54. > :09:59.Murray loves boxing, he adores the mentality and you can see why. He

:10:00. > :10:09.soaks up all the pressure and throws it down to the other end. Time for a

:10:10. > :10:14.few autographs. He's played his way into form magnificently in this

:10:15. > :10:23.championships. Andy Murray looks well set to have another run at a

:10:24. > :10:29.third Wimbledon championship. The defending champion. No British man

:10:30. > :10:36.since Fred Perry in 1935 and 1936 has been able to win back-to-back

:10:37. > :10:40.Grand Slam is. There are of course some major obstacles to get over in

:10:41. > :10:46.the next three matches, but more sporting history is beckoning for

:10:47. > :10:53.Andy Murray. And great news before the Championships as well for him

:10:54. > :10:56.and his wife, Kim. They are expecting their second child. He

:10:57. > :11:00.continues to walk in a slightly worrying way, but he moves so

:11:01. > :11:04.quickly around the court and he'll look forward to playing Querrey or

:11:05. > :11:09.Anderson in the next round. He'll go into that match as favourite. I'm

:11:10. > :11:16.sure he'll be keeping a close eye on Nadal against mullah as well. He's

:11:17. > :11:19.in that section. -- Gilles Muller. So much to look forward to,

:11:20. > :11:27.including Roger Federer coming out on this court.

:11:28. > :11:33.Congratulations. Benoit Paire's rank and King -- Rankin belies his skill

:11:34. > :11:37.set so you must be pretty pleased. I thought I played pretty well today.

:11:38. > :11:42.A couple of sloppy service games in the first set, but that was by far

:11:43. > :11:47.the best I'd hit the ball so far in the tournament. Really pleased with

:11:48. > :11:53.that. He is not easy to play. He has one of the best backhands and he can

:11:54. > :11:57.play every shot. It's not always easy to see where to put the ball,

:11:58. > :12:01.tactics aren't always easy. A discussion with the umpire at the

:12:02. > :12:09.start of the third set. It didn't look like it unsettled due much and

:12:10. > :12:14.you managed to have a joke about it later. How frustrating is it in the

:12:15. > :12:22.moment? It's not that frustrating. We probably play 300 points today

:12:23. > :12:27.and it was the first point of the game. You want to win every point,

:12:28. > :12:32.that's the mindset you have, but it's just one point and it wasn't

:12:33. > :12:36.important either. Maybe if that happens in the tie-break or on a

:12:37. > :12:41.break point, it's different, but it was fine. Still worth having the

:12:42. > :12:48.discussion at the change of ends to clarify, though. Yeah, I guess so.

:12:49. > :12:53.That happens all the time, pretty much every match there's discussions

:12:54. > :12:57.between umpires and players. Sometimes it's good to get it off

:12:58. > :13:02.your chest and get an understanding of what the umpire wants from you in

:13:03. > :13:05.those situations. With the build up into Wimbledon and the injury, if

:13:06. > :13:08.somebody had said at that point you would be through to the

:13:09. > :13:13.quarterfinals with the level of tennis you're playing would you have

:13:14. > :13:20.taken that? For sure. Two weeks ago I was resting. I was a little bit

:13:21. > :13:26.concerned. When you're having issues a few days before a big event, it's

:13:27. > :13:30.frustrating. I've managed it well. I've played some good stuff. Today

:13:31. > :13:36.was the best I've played so far in the tournament. I'm doing well.

:13:37. > :13:42.Hopefully I'll keep it up. Congratulations.

:13:43. > :13:47.It's all about winning the last point and he's certainly making a

:13:48. > :13:51.habit of that. Came in with so few matches, losing in the opening round

:13:52. > :13:55.at Queen's, but another straight sets victory. A little hick up

:13:56. > :14:03.against Fognini. David Haye was delighted that performance. Thumbs

:14:04. > :14:05.up from Ivan as well. Andy Murray is through to the quarterfinals at

:14:06. > :14:13.Wimbledon for the tenth successive year. That's the celebrations on

:14:14. > :14:16.Centre Court. Coming up soon on Centre Court, Roger Federer, 18 time

:14:17. > :14:23.grand slam champion, taking on Grigor Dimitrov, who was nicknamed

:14:24. > :14:28.baby fed. That will be a beautiful match to watch. Let's round up a

:14:29. > :14:34.couple of the big stories, starting with British number one woman Jo

:14:35. > :14:39.Konta. She came through a tense 3-set match against Caroline Garcia.

:14:40. > :14:43.Look at the motion at the end. It means so much. All the pressure and

:14:44. > :14:48.the expectation and coming through against a very difficult opponent,

:14:49. > :14:54.an opponent who beat this year. The first British woman in the last

:14:55. > :14:59.eight since Jo Durie in 1984. The crowd absolutely loving her run

:15:00. > :15:05.through the tournament. She is through to the quarterfinal to face

:15:06. > :15:10.this player, Simona Halep, the number two seed, who defeated

:15:11. > :15:16.Victoria Azarenka. She is such a fast mover around the court.

:15:17. > :15:23.Beautiful game. That will be a lovely match to watch tomorrow.

:15:24. > :15:30.Simona Halep is safely through. We said this is magical manic Monday

:15:31. > :15:35.and we've seen so many dramatic moments out on court and there could

:15:36. > :15:43.be a big shock in store on Court One. Just a moment ago, Rafael Nadal

:15:44. > :15:48.went two sets to love down to the big server Gilles Muller. His serve

:15:49. > :15:55.has been winning him so many points. Swinging left-handed serve.

:15:56. > :16:04.Rafa did challenge but it was in and that means Gilles Muller is now 2-0

:16:05. > :16:10.up against Rafael the Dow. We are going to go to this match on BBC

:16:11. > :16:19.One. Roger Federer against Grigor Dimitrov will be on BBC Two. Will it

:16:20. > :16:23.be a big surprise? Lets join our commentators, Jamie Baker and Simon

:16:24. > :16:27.Reed. The first two sets have taken an

:16:28. > :16:31.hour and 16 minutes so I'm not sure that's a factor any more. And it's

:16:32. > :16:41.not such a gruelling day as in the first week. Here we go. Can he come

:16:42. > :16:42.back? Three times in his career his comeback from two -- 2-0 down and

:16:43. > :18:06.gone through. You could hear the vamos from the

:18:07. > :18:13.come -- finest competitor this sport has known in the last two decades.

:18:14. > :18:36.Back firmly against the wall at the moment.

:18:37. > :18:46.Just what the doctor ordered for Nadal. The other thing about Muller

:18:47. > :18:50.is how well he's taking his chances. He's only had three break

:18:51. > :18:57.opportunities in the match and he's taken two of them at ease two sets

:18:58. > :19:02.up. For somebody who is so well suited to a fast court, and Muller

:19:03. > :19:08.is a good all-round player on any surface, but especially good on the

:19:09. > :19:12.fast courts, he understands that he can string a few good points

:19:13. > :19:15.together in one service game. He knows he won't be giving his

:19:16. > :19:55.opponents many chances on his service games.

:19:56. > :20:52.He's reading him so well, I'm surprised he missed that one. You

:20:53. > :20:57.thought Nadal might have blown his chance. You expected this to be a

:20:58. > :20:59.winner. These are the types of points Nadal has to win if he wants

:21:00. > :22:05.to break serve. Anything specifically that Rafa

:22:06. > :22:10.should do now? He's just got to do everything a bit better. The first

:22:11. > :22:14.thing at this point is a game at a time and staying ahead on the

:22:15. > :22:20.scoreboard as much as he possibly can. On the return games, if he's

:22:21. > :22:29.still not reading it, perhaps he has to do...

:22:30. > :22:36.If we get to a point where midway through this set he's still

:22:37. > :22:40.struggling to read the Muller serve, he has to think about moving

:22:41. > :22:44.position or trying to anticipate in advance because he has to connect

:22:45. > :23:43.with some serves to get the upper hand in his service games.

:23:44. > :24:08.Good to see. Plenty of spring in his legs and playing with his heart,

:24:09. > :24:28.too. So why is it that the Gilles Muller

:24:29. > :24:32.service causing Nadal so many problems? The first thing to look at

:24:33. > :24:39.is ball placement. It's where Muller is contacting the serve from. It's

:24:40. > :24:45.slightly above his left shoulder so quite an extreme throw up. If we

:24:46. > :24:50.roll this forward, this is from two aces, pretty much an identical

:24:51. > :24:55.contact point. Look where the service go. One down the T, sliding

:24:56. > :25:03.away, and one out wide, almost as accurate. You would expect a lefty

:25:04. > :25:10.to favour down the T on the deuce court, where he's only doing 50%.

:25:11. > :25:15.Fairly evenly split. On the ad court, you would expect the left eat

:25:16. > :25:19.to favour the sliding serve wide. Muller is doing the opposite.

:25:20. > :25:24.Perhaps he's trying to save away from the Nadal forehand on the

:25:25. > :25:28.return. It's a very unusual pattern for a left-handed serve. He throws

:25:29. > :25:35.the ball up as if he's going to slice every single serve. All of

:25:36. > :25:40.that put together means Nadal, two sets in, still did -- still doesn't

:25:41. > :26:42.know where the serve is going. Yeah, good luck reading that!

:26:43. > :26:51.Not quite as good an angle as Muller was looking for.

:26:52. > :26:56.Nadal will be delighted with that return. First point. Gets his nose

:26:57. > :27:13.ahead in the game. There's that sliced wide serve.

:27:14. > :27:17.Normally by this time in the match you'd be reading that, but because

:27:18. > :27:19.he's done it so few times, very difficult for Nadal to get ahead of

:27:20. > :28:05.the game there. That was a sense -- now there's a

:28:06. > :28:47.sense of expectancy in the crowd. Is this the moment the pendulum moves?

:28:48. > :28:58.Moved across and nothing doing. His box says don't get involved in any

:28:59. > :29:00.challenges. Two break points for Nadal, who is zero out of three on

:29:01. > :29:36.break points at the moment. It's what so many around here

:29:37. > :29:45.wanted. Malone going to have a word with the

:29:46. > :29:59.umpire. -- Muller. Not sure what that was about. But we

:30:00. > :30:17.are sure that Rafa is on the rampage right now.

:30:18. > :30:45.Well played. He did so well with the return too because it skidded. He

:30:46. > :30:48.got it back and then created the pass.

:30:49. > :30:50.Yeah, it looked like Nadal had done well and done enough here. But great

:30:51. > :32:06.passing shot from Muller. Too good. A lot of confidence.

:32:07. > :32:11.That's the backhand that we've been talking about that's so much more

:32:12. > :32:14.lethal. I think this might be the first time that we've seen him step

:32:15. > :33:12.in on a backhand. Just hasn't had the opportunity.

:33:13. > :33:34.Nasty little slip. He's OK. It's that patch just behind the baseline.

:33:35. > :34:18.UMPIRE: Game Nadal. They loved that here. Has he turned the tide?

:34:19. > :34:24.Certainly looks like he has. Yeah, it does. Certainly a good sign for

:34:25. > :34:29.the neutrals who want to see this one go to five sets and to see Rafa

:34:30. > :34:34.almost trying to turn this into a home match for him. This has been

:34:35. > :34:39.such a difficult assignment that you feel that perhaps a big support from

:34:40. > :34:44.the crowd is something that may actually be needed to get over the

:34:45. > :34:48.line in this one. Muller would probably have expected it. He's

:34:49. > :34:54.quietened it by the sheer brilliance of his play. Yeah, that's - we said

:34:55. > :35:01.that we thought he could cause Nadal some problems. What was surprising I

:35:02. > :35:04.think was how easy and quick and uneventful the first two sets were.

:35:05. > :35:08.You might say he might win a couple of tie breaks, no breaks. Really he

:35:09. > :35:26.dominated play for the first two sets, hands down.

:35:27. > :35:30.A real sense of vibrancy in the crowd and about Nadal.

:35:31. > :36:26.Not that that's ever far away. Not the same confidence about Muller

:36:27. > :36:27.now. A shot there that he would not have missed in the first couple of

:36:28. > :37:15.sets. Good judgment. Vicious second serve

:37:16. > :37:43.too. Credit to him for that. No. So a chance to wrap up the set

:37:44. > :38:21.here. That belongs to the first couple of

:38:22. > :38:35.sets. Telescopic arm. Break point down for the double

:38:36. > :39:08.break, this was almost a shot to nothing.

:39:09. > :39:19.UMPIRE: Game Muller. New balls please.

:39:20. > :40:32.Now it's Muller who's finding it tough to read anything on the Nadal

:40:33. > :41:14.serve. Got the line. Took a minute. He's

:41:15. > :41:22.accused of being rather slow in between serves, that was mighty

:41:23. > :41:28.rapid. It's as if the first two sets haven't happened. It definitely

:41:29. > :41:33.feels in the last 20 minutes, certainly since Nadal got the early

:41:34. > :41:40.break in this set that the overall flow and momentum of the match has

:41:41. > :41:43.turned in thatteded in's favour. Watching him, we admired how well

:41:44. > :41:49.Muller has come out and played the match so far. You have to also

:41:50. > :41:54.admire how Nadal was able to regroup and how he manages his energy in

:41:55. > :41:59.these situations, his competitive spirit, the way he gees himself up

:42:00. > :42:04.and what could be such an easy opportunity to be flat. He is one of

:42:05. > :42:09.the best at that in the game. Yeah, you never for one moment have seen

:42:10. > :42:21.him hang his head. Not even a suspicion of it. Frustration - yes,

:42:22. > :42:33.momentary. But that's all. John Barrett, Trevor McDonald.

:42:34. > :42:36.After an hour and 42 minutes Muller is serving to stay in set number

:42:37. > :43:03.three. He hasn't served and volleyed that

:43:04. > :43:07.much. He did it in the very first point of the match. But the werity

:43:08. > :43:08.that he has showed, obviously working perfectly in the first two

:43:09. > :43:20.sets. It's as if he intends to do it a bit

:43:21. > :44:21.more now. This was a good pass, but Nadal just

:44:22. > :44:25.signalling to himself he should have gone the other way. Just opened up

:44:26. > :44:48.the angle for Muller. Again the serve-volley. Nadal

:44:49. > :44:59.blitzing it at him. Nadal giving himself more time

:45:00. > :45:00.behind the baseline on that return. That's worth doing, if he's able to

:45:01. > :45:16.get a strong hit. Net court was crucial. It it was

:45:17. > :45:53.going in. Just took a hop and away. So quick to see the opportunity

:45:54. > :46:25.there, Nadal. When Muller stays back, look at the

:46:26. > :46:29.height on the return. That return did so much damage earlier in the

:46:30. > :46:49.set. Allows Nadal the opportunity to come forward into the court.

:46:50. > :47:30.UMPIRE: Game Muller. Another example of the fabulous variety he has in

:47:31. > :48:03.his serve. He forces Nadal to serve out for this set.

:48:04. > :48:21.Now he's into double figures on aces.

:48:22. > :48:53.Down that line he had as good a view as anyone. He's not getting

:48:54. > :49:21.involved. Three set points Kept on follow him that ball. Wasn't

:49:22. > :50:54.a lot he could do in the end. SUE BARKER: Big roar from Rafa and

:50:55. > :50:58.he's back in it. You know he's not going to run out of energy. We'll be

:50:59. > :51:07.right back with that match in a moment. Over on Centre Court a short

:51:08. > :51:11.time ago, Andy Murray came through another unorthodox opponent, Benoit

:51:12. > :51:15.Paire, winning in straight sets. But there were a number of breaks of

:51:16. > :51:18.serve in that one. Murray saying that he's playing his best tennis,

:51:19. > :51:23.getting better with every match. That's good to hear as he goes

:51:24. > :51:26.through into the last eight. Andy Murray on Centre Court through once

:51:27. > :51:34.again to the delight of the British fans out there. And he is through to

:51:35. > :51:39.face Sam Querrey, the big serving American who came through in five

:51:40. > :51:44.sets. He had four match points in the fourth set and had to dig deep

:51:45. > :51:49.in the fifth, winning 6-3. Querry takes on Murray. Murray leads 7-1 in

:51:50. > :51:55.the head to head. He beat him in straight sets here in 2010 and in

:51:56. > :52:02.straight sets earlier this year at the Australian open. Sam Querrey

:52:03. > :52:07.faces Andy Murray on Wednesday. Over on BBC Two, you can watch Roger

:52:08. > :52:10.Federer, aren't you spoiled for choice, Rafa on one, Roger on two.

:52:11. > :52:19.He's up against Grigor Dimitrov. That's 4-4. Roger Federer over on

:52:20. > :52:22.BBC two. Over on court number two, we haven't got a player on here

:52:23. > :52:28.because they both left the court for a comfort break. It is one set all.

:52:29. > :52:31.Zverev was a set and a break up. Milos Raonic has levelled that

:52:32. > :52:41.match. Watch it on the red button or the BBC Sport website. Over on Court

:52:42. > :52:46.3, Tomas Berdych now leads two sets to one over Dominic Thiem. It's on

:52:47. > :52:53.serve in the fourth set. That match is on the red button and the BBC

:52:54. > :52:57.Sport website. So is the comeback on? Rafa has twice come back from

:52:58. > :53:03.two sets to love down here at Wimbledon. He's certainly got the

:53:04. > :53:04.fitness, he is the man to do it. Gilles Muller still leading. Let's

:53:05. > :53:20.go back to court one. He's starting to go out wide a bit

:53:21. > :55:40.more now. He's got such a huge wing span, very

:55:41. > :55:46.little chance of getting past him. Muller gets off to a lead in set

:55:47. > :55:50.number four. His two biggest wins both in 2005, beating Nadal here

:55:51. > :55:59.when Nadal was ranked three in the world. And later the same year, he

:56:00. > :56:05.beat Andy Roddick in the US Open. There's been very little since of

:56:06. > :56:09.that calibre. Suddenly this year a quantum leap up. Here he is on the

:56:10. > :56:20.verge of perhaps the biggest upset of his career.

:56:21. > :57:14.Nadal didn't deserve that. Did he tweak something there? A couple of

:57:15. > :57:19.awkward movements. The right ankle was the problem.

:57:20. > :59:11.Just a slight wobble there. Dynamic serving from Nadal. Up to 14

:59:12. > :00:00.aces now. The standard has improved game by game, set by set.

:00:01. > :00:10.Yes! Serve and volley from Muller, I thought he'd done enough. Desperate

:00:11. > :00:26.defending and it worked a treat. Still having a little feel down

:00:27. > :00:48.there on the ankle. Obviously not 100%.

:00:49. > :01:02.It took a hot. -- hop. It's that second serve return again. Giving

:01:03. > :01:14.himself more time, taking a full swing at this.

:01:15. > :01:38.Wanted that. Surprised not to see Nadal go for the favourite

:01:39. > :01:41.crosscourt pass. He had the time, he gave himself the time by being so

:01:42. > :02:47.far behind the baseline. That's a wonderful game from Muller.

:02:48. > :02:52.Need a little bit of luck against Nadal and made it almost an

:02:53. > :03:11.impossible shot. That could turn out to be very important.

:03:12. > :03:19.UMPIRE: Mr Nadal is challenging the call. I didn't hear the call, but

:03:20. > :03:29.there must have been won. Now Nadal is challenging. He might as well.

:03:30. > :03:47.But it was long. Muller has saved a couple of break points.

:03:48. > :03:56.As you said, Jamie, that's one of his favourite passes, the forehand

:03:57. > :03:58.across. He has had the chances in this game. Feels like he knows it

:03:59. > :04:35.from the look on his face. One of his best returns in the

:04:36. > :04:44.match. He's just so much more comfortable. He's almost at the ball

:04:45. > :04:46.boy. You can just see how much damage that's doing to Muller.

:04:47. > :05:36.Totally off-balance. They know how important this is,

:05:37. > :06:01.right here. Nadal building momentum. Can it be halted here?

:06:02. > :06:20.One of the longer games. Just has a feeling of being a really important

:06:21. > :06:39.one. Yeah. That time he slots it home. He

:06:40. > :06:43.leads 2-1. (STUDIO) what a long, tough game

:06:44. > :06:49.that was an Gilles Muller edges ahead in the fourth set. On Centre

:06:50. > :06:54.Court, Roger Federer is head -- edging ahead against Grigor

:06:55. > :07:00.Dimitrov. He broke dimmer trough at 4-4. Roger Federer in charge on

:07:01. > :07:07.Centre court. In just a moment you'll be able to

:07:08. > :07:13.see Roger Federer... This is the really -- this is the latest score.

:07:14. > :07:19.In five or six minutes Roger Federer will be on the red button because we

:07:20. > :07:23.will be moving the Rafael Nadal match to BBC Two. That's in about

:07:24. > :07:28.five minutes. In the meantime, back we go.

:07:29. > :07:36.2-1. The bottles are at exactly the right angle, in exactly the right

:07:37. > :07:42.position. The match is starting to move his way. But Muller halting him

:07:43. > :07:48.then. You were asking what Nadal could do on his return of serve and

:07:49. > :07:55.he has done something. He's stepped back, especially on the second

:07:56. > :08:01.serve. You can see the difference. He's hitting with greater pace on

:08:02. > :08:06.the return. He is about 1.9 metres further back in the third set on the

:08:07. > :08:11.second serve. It doesn't sound like a big distance, but it's allowed him

:08:12. > :08:58.to take a bigger swing and get more on that return.

:08:59. > :09:08.Nadal fighting like a lion. Muller played lights out tennis for an hour

:09:09. > :09:13.and a quarter, taking the first two sets. Not quite where he was and

:09:14. > :09:44.pressure being exerted game by game now by the double champion.

:09:45. > :10:40.Great disguise! How quick was he on to it? And then Muller totally

:10:41. > :10:44.deceived. We are starting to see more and more points like this.

:10:45. > :10:47.Nadal is finding a way to get into the Muller service games. Great

:10:48. > :12:11.touch to finish that off. (STUDIO) three break points for

:12:12. > :12:16.Rafael Nadal. We are coming to the end of our transmission on BBC One,

:12:17. > :12:21.but it continues on BBC Two. Quickly switch to BBC Two if you want to see

:12:22. > :12:26.if Rat I can break now. So much to look forward to later in the

:12:27. > :12:31.evening. We'll also be following Roger Federer. He's taken the first

:12:32. > :12:38.set against Grigor Dimitrov. That match is on the red button. Two big

:12:39. > :12:43.results to bring you. Good news for both of Britain's number one tennis

:12:44. > :12:48.players. Jo Konta came through in three sets, a difficult match

:12:49. > :12:56.against Caroline Garcia. Look at the Ocean pouring out. 6-4 in the third

:12:57. > :13:01.set. -- look at the motion. All the pressure and expectation on her.

:13:02. > :13:05.Wonderful scenes on Court number one is Jo Konta celebrates getting to

:13:06. > :13:12.the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the very first time. Someone who

:13:13. > :13:16.knows all about that is through to his tenth quarterfinal. Andy Murray

:13:17. > :13:24.in straight sets against another tricky opponent, Benoit Paire. Andy

:13:25. > :13:29.Murray winning in straight sets. He goes through to face Sam Querrey in

:13:30. > :13:34.the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Andy Murray claiming he's playing his

:13:35. > :13:39.best tennis at Wimbledon today. That's a good signal for all his

:13:40. > :13:45.fans. The crowd loving seeing him go through once again. It was a tricky

:13:46. > :13:50.first set, but he came through it. Good news for Britain as Jo Konta

:13:51. > :13:56.and Andy Murray are through. So much tennis to look forward to as well.

:13:57. > :13:59.We got Novak Djokovic as well. That will unfold on BBC Two. Goodbye.
