:00:17. > :00:22.This is a national programme. We are going to take you over to Wimbledon.
:00:23. > :00:33.Brilliant! Irresistible. Majestic. In a class
:00:34. > :00:51.of her own. Welcome to Wimbledon. After all the
:00:52. > :00:54.excitement yesterday of Britain's Jo Konta going through to the
:00:55. > :01:01.semifinal, well Andy Murray do the same? He is on Centre Court. This
:01:02. > :01:06.happened a few moments ago, making the familiar walk-out to his
:01:07. > :01:24.favourite court, Centre Court, and each huge operation awaits. -- huge
:01:25. > :01:26.ovation. That was a few minutes ago. On Court One they walked out for
:01:27. > :01:42.their men's quarterfinal match between you and will and Marin
:01:43. > :01:48.Cilic. Gilles Muller against Marin Cilic. The winner of this match will
:01:49. > :01:54.face the winner of the match on Centre Court. That is on the red
:01:55. > :02:03.button. There is always such a great atmosphere at Wimbledon around and
:02:04. > :02:05.the -- Andy Murray's matches. People here to enjoy the Wimbledon
:02:06. > :02:10.experience and cheered on Britain's number one. They are on court. Some
:02:11. > :02:30.query against Andy Murray. What percentage of people do not
:02:31. > :02:34.change station? It seems like we go off... Is there a whole new
:02:35. > :02:44.audience? No, I think a lot of people switchover. 7.5 million
:02:45. > :02:53.watching Jo Konta yesterday. I only watch BBC One of the Tsonga. BBC Two
:02:54. > :03:04.I am not watching! You cannot miss anything on the BBC. Andy Murray, in
:03:05. > :03:09.for his eighth Wimbledon semifinal. He has won this twice, he has won
:03:10. > :03:21.the Davis Cup twice, two Olympic golds and world number one. The
:03:22. > :03:30.nominal. The only reason I hear any form or... Not growing... He is in
:03:31. > :03:35.an era of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. There are
:03:36. > :03:40.not many Grand Slams around when these guys are grabbing them. He has
:03:41. > :03:53.had even nominal career. A skinny Wimpy kid from Scotland. The
:03:54. > :03:58.nominal. The two big years he has had, the Olympics, it has taken so
:03:59. > :04:01.much for him to get up to world number one last year and he has
:04:02. > :04:08.suffered injuries and various things but he is a phenomenal athlete and
:04:09. > :04:16.incredible competitor. He gets grumpy. To say the least. That works
:04:17. > :04:23.for him. He has had an amazing career. To do what he did in Finnish
:04:24. > :04:32.world number one last year, considering Novak Djokovic had all
:04:33. > :04:36.four at the same time, is amazing. Looking back, we cannot be surprised
:04:37. > :04:42.there was a let down. Add he got ill. Let down and things happen and
:04:43. > :04:50.one thing leads to another so the fact he is here and playing as well
:04:51. > :04:55.as he did is more of what we expect. He seems to be limping walking but
:04:56. > :05:01.running full speed. It remains me of when I used to watch someone else. I
:05:02. > :05:06.used to think of them he was tired in the warm up and then he would
:05:07. > :05:10.speed around the court. If he is not 100% this is the type of guy you do
:05:11. > :05:16.not want to play because he can take the racket out of your hands and he
:05:17. > :05:20.has a lot to gain. Sam has not showed a lot of emotional intensity
:05:21. > :05:29.over the years. A lot of coaches in America... Their years. It is lovely
:05:30. > :05:35.because they are celebrating the pro tennis event for 50 years of the pro
:05:36. > :05:43.tennis event. All of those who took part are being invited. Will Federer
:05:44. > :05:52.break his record? He is the oldest finalist. I practised with him when
:05:53. > :06:02.he was 4243 and I was 17 or 18 and he wore me out. -- he was 42 or 43.
:06:03. > :06:13.He wore me out when he was 50 something. I played with Ken and
:06:14. > :06:16.would leave on the same day. What? I was 12. They did a coaching clinic
:06:17. > :06:25.and I was there. I have a photograph. He always said that Ken
:06:26. > :06:31.was the toughest to play. They said that Lever on his best was difficult
:06:32. > :06:38.but then you would have to think like an animal. If you played really
:06:39. > :06:43.well you would get him and if not forget about it. We will reminisce
:06:44. > :06:47.more another day but let us talk about Sam Querrey because he has
:06:48. > :06:57.come through a couple of five set matches.
:06:58. > :07:02.I Philip I am playing well. Mostly I am excited about how I have got
:07:03. > :07:09.through these matches. My game is in good shape. Mentally you have to be
:07:10. > :07:14.ready to go, just like physically. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has gone. Beaten
:07:15. > :07:19.by the American who beat Novak Djokovic last year. Things just get
:07:20. > :07:26.tougher here. A tremendous achievement for him. Back-to-back
:07:27. > :07:35.five set matches. Andy Murray will have the crowd on St, nothing
:07:36. > :07:39.against you. Exactly, he has the crowd no matter who he plays. He is
:07:40. > :07:44.number one in the world and you have to play your best and talk things go
:07:45. > :07:48.your way. Is there any way you can turn the crowd to get involved or is
:07:49. > :07:57.it just head down and get on with your business? It is on display head
:07:58. > :08:02.down, it is hard to try and turn an entire crowd. Hopefully I will make
:08:03. > :08:08.a lot of first serves and play offensive tennis. He is one of the
:08:09. > :08:19.good guys and playing great tennis, a big serve. Sort of like Milos
:08:20. > :08:22.Raonic. You have to show the crowd that the good guys stuff is all well
:08:23. > :08:27.and good but if you want to beat these guys, these are selfish men,
:08:28. > :08:33.these champions, they take everything. You have to dig deeper
:08:34. > :08:38.than anything in your life if you want to beat Andy Murray. Andy
:08:39. > :08:43.Murray has a move up another gear. It is the business end of the
:08:44. > :08:48.tournament. The first thing is to win but if he can get off in three
:08:49. > :08:51.or four said that as a massive bonus for him at this stage of the
:08:52. > :08:57.tournament. Winning is the first thing. He has to be able to move
:08:58. > :09:07.some around enough to be able to find gaps and hit winners. That is
:09:08. > :09:12.where Sam's weakness is. They have called time so we better get moving.
:09:13. > :09:18.John McEnroe is off to the commentary box.
:09:19. > :09:27.Andy Murray is on court. The chairman of the club is talking to
:09:28. > :09:36.Rod Lever. 1954 his first final here. Phenomenal record here. To
:09:37. > :09:44.play Jimmy Connors in the final in 1974, talk about spanning
:09:45. > :09:52.generations. That backhand volley. Beautiful to watch. Still is.
:09:53. > :09:58.Classic. Beautiful tennis player. Owen Davies. What a great mixed
:09:59. > :10:02.doubles record he had. All in attendance for this quarterfinal
:10:03. > :10:09.match. Delighted to welcome John McEnroe. Excited to be here. This
:10:10. > :10:15.should be fun. The loan and American left. Play big, right? A lot of
:10:16. > :11:45.upside. He is going to play big. Tight, understandably so.
:11:46. > :12:12.Back-to-back quarters for him. What I would like to see from Sam
:12:13. > :12:16.Querrey is that emotionally when he is out there he is going to say to
:12:17. > :12:20.himself it is not good enough to get to the quarters, even though he has
:12:21. > :12:25.done it twice, great effort, he wants more. That is what he has to
:12:26. > :12:32.shall be bought here, especially his opponent. Physically imposing.
:12:33. > :12:45.Served 99 aces so far in his first four matches.
:12:46. > :12:59.Dodgy start so far. Murray has not lost to an Americans and 2011. Not a
:13:00. > :13:16.good start. I am not sure he will tell Sam that. No.
:13:17. > :13:25.His only loss, Andy Murray, to an American in these Grand Slam events,
:13:26. > :13:37.the pinnacle of our game, 2009, semifinal. Right now knives have
:13:38. > :13:46.gotten the way of Querrey's ability to play his game -- nerves have
:13:47. > :13:50.gotten away. The defending champion and number one seed is going to take
:13:51. > :14:01.advantage. Opening up the match for Murray.
:14:02. > :14:14.His 100th ace keeps them in the game.
:14:15. > :14:28.That is a hungry performance from Murray. A nervous one from Sam
:14:29. > :14:34.Querrey. You can go an hour and a half and not have many break points
:14:35. > :14:41.on these guys. You talk to a guy like some four hours to lead up to a
:14:42. > :14:47.match like this, to get the good start, to get through the early
:14:48. > :15:01.portions of the match and you just break the first two games. That
:15:02. > :15:09.hurts. It is tough to lob the strawmen. Everyone, these giants out
:15:10. > :15:26.there, participating in the men's quarters today. Novak Djokovic is
:15:27. > :15:43.six foot two, Muller, these men, or more. He has tree trunks for legs,
:15:44. > :15:51.Berdych. You could throw me -- Milos into that as well. Tyrannosaurus
:15:52. > :16:07.legs. The sun makes an appearance just at the wrong time for Andy
:16:08. > :16:11.Murray. Good job, Querrey. He has to attack that serve. It has to do more
:16:12. > :16:17.with his backhand. He understands that. You know Murray is going to be
:16:18. > :17:18.going after it. This is a really tentative tight
:17:19. > :17:27.start from the American, Sam Querrey. Exactly what he did not
:17:28. > :17:49.want to do. A rugged six minutes to open up the match.
:17:50. > :17:58.Murray has not been serving massively during this tournament.
:17:59. > :18:05.His average bead is 130 mph. That ace at 121, he has been keeping his
:18:06. > :18:13.first serve percentage up. I am going to tell you that he has never
:18:14. > :18:21.lost to anybody at Wimbledon less than number 19 in the wild. That was
:18:22. > :18:26.in 2005. Unremarkable record. It certainly is. He knows his way
:18:27. > :18:34.around the grass court better than anyone else with the probable
:18:35. > :18:42.exception of Roger Federer. He utilises it to his advantage. He is
:18:43. > :18:47.able to throw you off with the slice backhand. His defensive skills are
:18:48. > :18:53.amazing. He has learned over the years to get more offensive. He
:18:54. > :18:57.makes big guys work hard. I like the idea of taking a little off of the
:18:58. > :19:01.first serve and getting the percentage up because the second
:19:02. > :19:02.serve, if there is a weakness it would be that, and these guys can
:19:03. > :19:13.attack. Strong representation in the Royal
:19:14. > :19:49.Box today. The court is firm enough that a guy
:19:50. > :19:53.who is 66 can let it bounce. It is easier to let it bounce once and
:19:54. > :19:55.assess it and see where your opponent is a knock it off for a
:19:56. > :20:13.winner. Sam is thinking, why did this not
:20:14. > :21:06.happen the first service game? That is always nice, to get your
:21:07. > :21:09.side of the scoreboard ticking over. He has kind of moved past the
:21:10. > :21:21.unfortunate opening couple of minutes. It is extremely important
:21:22. > :21:53.to stay positive. The aggressive on these serves here.
:21:54. > :21:59.We all know and assume the longer the rally cause the less chance
:22:00. > :23:17.Querrey has of winning it. He has to know that.
:23:18. > :23:24.Tremendous player against a guy who is six six. Extremely difficult for
:23:25. > :24:19.Sam to handle. It is another rule I think should be
:24:20. > :24:24.changed. Putting it in the crowd... If you throw it up you have to hit
:24:25. > :24:31.it, otherwise it is a fault, that is all I am saying. People should work
:24:32. > :25:00.on that toss more. You have got your own academy and
:25:01. > :25:12.you know the game. Look at Querrey's serves. 100 aces. What is good about
:25:13. > :25:22.this? How tall the years. Look where he hits the ball from. Let us see if
:25:23. > :25:28.that toss is still in the camera shot. It is. It is key for any
:25:29. > :25:33.player to use their legs and generate additional strength. His is
:25:34. > :25:38.pretty compact. His toss is not that far out in front of him so he is
:25:39. > :25:47.relying on hitting a great winners, aces, unreturnable is serves rather
:25:48. > :25:50.than moving forward. I wondered if he would be better getting a modern
:25:51. > :25:57.front so he can easily get to the net behind the big serve of his. It
:25:58. > :26:03.discourages him because he is concerned about his movement. The
:26:04. > :26:07.tendency is to be complacent. You believe in hitting your shot. If you
:26:08. > :26:15.are that big and had that that hard you are not going to get broken a
:26:16. > :26:20.lot. Understandably the nerves got the better of him and that is why he
:26:21. > :26:45.is down 4-1. Well handled by Querrey. Surprise
:26:46. > :26:49.that Murray did not move forward sooner because once the ball dropped
:26:50. > :26:50.below the net Sam does not have a lot of options and that was the best
:26:51. > :27:16.of the lot. He handled it well. He is great at the lob but it is
:27:17. > :27:20.tough going with guys this big. With a slice. That Timmy is not going to
:27:21. > :27:37.work. 129 mph, his quickest 134 in his
:27:38. > :28:09.previous four matches. You had to believe the weather
:28:10. > :28:22.forecast today because it was pretty horrible this morning but it is
:28:23. > :28:31.quite warm. Starting to settle in. The coach and courage that he is
:28:32. > :28:34.starting to let go. Last game this one with the old tennis balls. They
:28:35. > :28:43.will be just a little bit more fluffy. Slightly slower through the
:28:44. > :28:44.air. Marginal differences. Sometimes presents the best opportunity for a
:28:45. > :29:13.break. Yes. A fine start for the American.
:29:14. > :29:19.Showing some good touch. As he starts to settle. Get the
:29:20. > :29:25.butterflies out of the stomach. You can see the impact, the power he
:29:26. > :29:47.has. That can be debilitating if you are playing him and he gets going.
:29:48. > :29:53.Beautiful job moving in, taking the ball in the air before Sam Querrey
:29:54. > :30:08.had a chance to recover. If your tennis coach tells you to
:30:09. > :30:35.stop on a volley, tell him he's wrong, go through it. Or her.
:30:36. > :30:44.I always thought there would be that brief split-second moment when you
:30:45. > :30:47.want to stop and allow it to bounce, you will end up moving forward
:30:48. > :30:53.because you built up a head of steam to get to that point.
:30:54. > :31:08.If you've got hands like Murray you could do it either way, I suppose.
:31:09. > :31:15.He's got to put more on his shots, Sam. That slice just floated. Murray
:31:16. > :31:17.is doing a much better job keeping it low than Querrey on that
:31:18. > :32:05.particular ball. We have had some dodgy weather here
:32:06. > :32:09.but that seems to have cleared now, and it is maybe a little bit wet
:32:10. > :32:16.underneath but it's the right place to be, Henman Hill today, wonderful
:32:17. > :32:20.set stomach selection of matches, Raonic against Federer, the man he
:32:21. > :32:26.beat in the semifinal last year, Gilles Muller and Marin Cilic
:32:27. > :32:30.playing against each other, and Berdych versus Novak Djokovic and
:32:31. > :32:34.there is seniors tennis, Junius Teniste Matt men's and women's
:32:35. > :32:38.doubles and some Mixed Doubles taking place, I enjoyed watching
:32:39. > :32:43.Martina Hingis play with Jamie Murray. The crowd on Henman Hill, as
:32:44. > :32:48.often is the case. I sometimes whether someone is trying to pull
:32:49. > :32:56.off a big upset who is going to be tighter, as we saw Querrey, have you
:32:57. > :33:00.watched a lot of American football? Yeah you often see the teams map out
:33:01. > :33:03.their first ten or 15 players, you would do that with your first
:33:04. > :33:07.service game, this is what you would do with the first four, five, six
:33:08. > :33:11.serves no matter what happens. You couldn't tell him that. Couldn't
:33:12. > :33:21.follow a script for more than a shot or appoint or two. I hope Henri
:33:22. > :33:24.Leconte stays there and fries in the sunshine, I'm playing him later on.
:33:25. > :33:39.Have a couple of glasses of champagne. I have no doubt he will.
:33:40. > :33:45.Maybe allow Querrey to calm down quicker if he knew exactly what he
:33:46. > :34:05.was going to be doing early on. We are under the flight path today.
:34:06. > :34:14.For a moment I thought Concord was back in service.
:34:15. > :34:48.The next game is going to be interesting.
:34:49. > :35:45.The moment of truth for both players.
:35:46. > :35:53.Querrey is in the game. Sam has played a couple of long tough
:35:54. > :35:58.matches, five sets, he beat Tsonga, Anderson. His legs don't seem to
:35:59. > :36:00.have that spring yet. You hope he can find another gear if he really
:36:01. > :36:37.wants to make this a match Both goes had opportunities to win
:36:38. > :36:43.this point, that's for sure. Querrey will look back and say, why
:36:44. > :36:48.did I go down the line on that one? Or why didn't he hit it harder? He
:36:49. > :36:51.had an opportunity to do a number of things and unfortunately picked the
:36:52. > :37:28.wrong one. Still maybe could have won it with that volley.
:37:29. > :37:35.That's the best move he's made in the match, a good sign for Querrey.
:37:36. > :37:40.Sprung forward after hitting that big forehand. Murray was keeping an
:37:41. > :37:44.impeccable length on his ground strokes in this rally as well. As
:37:45. > :38:01.soon as Querrey had the chance in he came. 30-30 after the longest rally.
:38:02. > :38:41.That's the end of the first set, just less than half an hour. Murray
:38:42. > :38:46.wins it 6-3, just the one break of serve in Murray's opening service
:38:47. > :38:50.game. He'd like that one back. SUE BARKER: Winning the opening set in
:38:51. > :38:54.just 28 minutes. We will be right back with this one but we will show
:38:55. > :38:58.you the other quarterfinal on Court Number One. Gilles Muller, the
:38:59. > :39:03.conqueror of Rafael Nadal, is up against Marin Cilic, the big server
:39:04. > :39:06.from Croatia seeded seven at these championships and guess what, Muller
:39:07. > :39:19.could be causing another shot here as well because he is
:39:20. > :39:23.already a break-up against Cilic, 5-3. Cilic is yet to drop a set at
:39:24. > :39:26.the Championships, maybe it will be here. This match will be on BBC Two
:39:27. > :39:29.shortly. It is on the red button at the moment, the feature match, but
:39:30. > :39:32.it will be on BBC Two shortly when we will take Andy Murray over to BBC
:39:33. > :39:36.One. So that is what is happening over on Court One. Back we go over
:39:37. > :39:41.to Centre. ANDREW CASTLE: Andy Murray looking at his notes once
:39:42. > :39:46.again on Court, just little reminders of last-minute things? I
:39:47. > :39:49.do have to be honest, I did that in the past and felt it was a good way
:39:50. > :39:57.to keep your focus. Obvious things, the ball toss. Go to his backhand if
:39:58. > :40:01.in doubt. Things of that nature but probably more focusing on himself as
:40:02. > :40:11.opposed to tactical advice that he may have been given by his coaches.
:40:12. > :40:17.Ultimately his experience, his pedigree, and his place in the game
:40:18. > :40:21.won him that first set. Querrey got a bit too tight in the beginning. It
:40:22. > :40:28.could be saying don't forget to pay the phone bill later on. I don't
:40:29. > :40:33.think so. Here we go then. Important game, particularly for Querrey.
:40:34. > :40:53.Better start already. His first service game from that end.
:40:54. > :41:10.Moments were Murray has appeared to be moving a bit gingerly.
:41:11. > :41:17.That move is an example where he seems to just sort of, well, maybe
:41:18. > :41:28.looking at the score a little bit, let that go, not date particularly
:41:29. > :41:33.deep for that ball. Smart tactic. Especially if you are hurting a
:41:34. > :41:38.little. He talked about his record at Wimbledon, Andy Murray, tenth
:41:39. > :41:43.consecutive quarterfinal at this slam, only Federer and Jimmy Connors
:41:44. > :41:48.achieved that at the same slam. It was ten in a row for Federer and
:41:49. > :41:53.Jimmy Connors in two different Grand Slams, a remarkable record of
:41:54. > :41:57.consistency. Seeded one for the first time at the Championships,
:41:58. > :42:00.Andy Murray, and will stay number one if he wins his match today,
:42:01. > :42:17.whatever happens elsewhere in the tournament.
:42:18. > :42:24.The second set is the inverse of the first set at the start. Five points
:42:25. > :42:59.in a row for Querrey. Sam Hitchcott passing shot. The odds
:43:00. > :43:03.are very small he's going to get back in. Sometimes I wish the
:43:04. > :43:05.players would start to move back towards the ball, the other player
:43:06. > :43:13.would see that and possibly tighten up on a volley like that. -- Sam hit
:43:14. > :43:18.that passing shot. That is a heck of an angle, this guy is 6'6", if you
:43:19. > :44:07.can get him reaching! Remarkably similar to the match they
:44:08. > :44:10.played at the Australian Open this year. It was just under two hours.
:44:11. > :44:50.Murray in straight sets. That's the ball he's got to give
:44:51. > :44:54.himself more margin for, Querrey. That ball is skidding, you can't try
:44:55. > :45:00.and hit that as hard as you can over the high part of the net. That will
:45:01. > :45:07.not work very often, especially when you are 1-7 in lifetime against your
:45:08. > :45:21.opponent. Mentally, how much does he believe he can do this.
:45:22. > :45:28.See how Murray took the pace off a few ground strokes, it just unnerved
:45:29. > :45:30.Querrey, he tightened up, almost had too much time to think about it.
:45:31. > :45:49.Good move by Murray. Sometimes you get the same effect
:45:50. > :45:56.hitting it soft as when you try and blow it by an opponent. Querrey's
:45:57. > :45:57.serve is what is ultimately going to save him if he's going to do
:45:58. > :46:19.something big here today. That's the first reaction we've seen
:46:20. > :46:26.from Andy Murray, a first expression of frustration. That's a nice
:46:27. > :46:36.opportunity for him. I'd like to see Sam doing some
:46:37. > :46:39.serving and volleying. Murray is upset that he missed the forehand
:46:40. > :47:05.that could have given him a few break points.
:47:06. > :47:21.150 base for the tournament, a reminder that John Isner served 113
:47:22. > :47:25.in one match -- 105th ace. John Isner is the only other active
:47:26. > :47:29.Americans have made a Grand Slam quarterfinal. Querrey has made two
:47:30. > :47:34.in a row here. With got to get our act together. More guys in the top
:47:35. > :47:41.50 but no superstars. In the states we have been growing accustomed to
:47:42. > :47:45.success in the 70s, 80s, into the 90s, Sampras and what he did here.
:47:46. > :47:52.It has been slim pickings ever since Andy Roddick won his loan Grand Slam
:47:53. > :47:56.14 years ago. So we have been desperately searching for athletes.
:47:57. > :48:00.Because you can see the game is being played at such a pace you'd
:48:01. > :48:07.better be able to cover the court in an amazing way the way Murray does,
:48:08. > :48:12.the way Djokovic does, Roger, Rafa. These guys are good athletes, don't
:48:13. > :48:15.get me wrong, but you have to be just supreme to poke some of the
:48:16. > :48:22.guys that play American football or basketball. Get them enticed. To
:48:23. > :48:23.think it's cool enough to play this great game, and make it affordable
:48:24. > :48:49.enough. Incredibly Muller has won that first
:48:50. > :48:54.set. It was the talk of the locker room, Cilic's form coming into
:48:55. > :49:00.today. Well, guess what, he's got his hands full.
:49:01. > :49:13.That was the athleticism I was just talking about that saves him time
:49:14. > :49:17.and again. This was outrageous, wasn't it? That was a bit of a
:49:18. > :49:24.surprise, that was a lunch from Samba to get that ball up, down and
:49:25. > :49:28.away from the big fellow takes this work here. You've got to have the
:49:29. > :50:11.expression as well. I don't know, might as well.
:50:12. > :50:20.Nestea. This is so beautiful for so many reasons. Mum appreciating that
:50:21. > :50:25.one. It was gorgeous. He had to adjust, it came to his backhand side
:50:26. > :50:33.and he came across the ball, that's the perfect delivery of the racket
:50:34. > :50:34.head, take the legs off that. His previous opponent, Benoit Paire,
:50:35. > :50:57.would have enjoyed that. Sam showing some good touch of his
:50:58. > :51:06.own out there, as this match has progressed, finding his legs. He
:51:07. > :51:13.seems to have gotten the nerves out of his system, now he's got to get
:51:14. > :51:14.the intensity higher. Try to reach his first-ever semifinal of a Grand
:51:15. > :52:33.Slam. Do not want to get careless against
:52:34. > :52:37.a guy as good as Murray. Respecting Murray's movement, Murray Wallace
:52:38. > :52:41.haring off after that ball on the backhand side. Is making Querrey
:52:42. > :52:47.feel like he has to hit a better shot. Perhaps he has two. -- Murray
:52:48. > :53:14.was haring off. Good hold ultimately.
:53:15. > :53:19.Well, the second set is a lot more competitive than the first just
:53:20. > :53:23.because of that one break of serve when Querrey was dealing with the
:53:24. > :53:27.nerves. Two or three minutes can make a difference on a grass court.
:53:28. > :53:30.Big Sam Querrey who beat Novak Djokovic last year in round number
:53:31. > :53:34.three in strange circumstances, backed it up beating Novak Djokovic
:53:35. > :53:42.to make the quarterfinal. He was two sets down. He is a fighter. It is
:53:43. > :53:45.hard to know what he can do to change to bring himself into this
:53:46. > :53:49.match as a factor. If you were coaching him what would you say to
:53:50. > :53:55.him? Obviously the server is a big factor in terms of what particular
:53:56. > :53:58.shot can keep him in the match. But to me, the emotional intensity, show
:53:59. > :54:04.some more fight, some more grit, I would emotion, to me, to engage some
:54:05. > :54:09.more people in the crowd to get more respect but that is not Sam's
:54:10. > :54:14.nature. He is shy, he's from Santa Monica, he likes to hide under his
:54:15. > :54:16.hat and do his own thing. He is an excellent player but if you want to
:54:17. > :54:20.do something extraordinary on the skort and get your first-ever semi
:54:21. > :54:26.of a slam you've got to get out of your comfort zone, to me. -- on this
:54:27. > :54:45.court. At least a little bit. Two former champions at Queen's
:54:46. > :54:49.Club, of course. Sam Querrey winning that event in 2010. Five times, Andy
:54:50. > :55:13.Murray a champion. SUE BARKER: We are leaving this
:55:14. > :55:16.match on Centre, but don't worry it continues now on BBC One. Andy
:55:17. > :55:21.Murray's quarterfinal match is now being shown over on BBC One. But
:55:22. > :55:26.it's a busy day on the show courts and over on Court Number One, the
:55:27. > :55:30.first of the men's quarterfinals taking place, as we see Henman Hill
:55:31. > :55:35.absolutely packed as it always is when Andy Murray is on Centre Court,
:55:36. > :55:39.and of course after Jo Konta yesterday, what time this is for
:55:40. > :55:43.British tennis. The British fans are thoroughly enjoying it. On Court
:55:44. > :55:48.Number One is Gilles Muller, the conqueror of Rafael Nadal, playing
:55:49. > :55:52.Marin Cilic and this is Muller a set point to break Cilic's serve for the
:55:53. > :55:58.second time. That error from Cilic means that he has lost his serve and
:55:59. > :56:02.that is the first set he has lost at these championships, so worrying
:56:03. > :56:05.times for former US Open champion Cilic and she'll Mola just marches
:56:06. > :56:12.on. We worried about just how tired he might be after 15-13 against
:56:13. > :56:16.Rafael Nadal in the fifth set -- Gilles Muller. No sign of that so
:56:17. > :56:20.far. It is on serve in the second set so let's join our commentators
:56:21. > :56:36.on Court One, Peter Fleming alongside Matt Chilton.
:56:37. > :56:45.Another loose one from Marin Cilic. It's been an issue for the Croatian.
:56:46. > :56:53.Gilles Muller has made such a strong start, broke Cilic twice. Broke him
:56:54. > :56:58.to win the first set, which meant that he served first at the start of
:56:59. > :57:05.the second. Cilic playing catch-up here 1-2. 46 minutes played. Mixture
:57:06. > :57:27.of overcast and bright sunshine. Cilic won't relish the fact that the
:57:28. > :57:31.sun has come out again. It has been behind a cloud for a little while.
:57:32. > :57:32.At this hour it is far more awkward for a right-hander Vanni
:57:33. > :58:04.left-hander. It is taking an awful long time
:58:05. > :58:14.between serves. He has a bug flying around. May be one of those killer
:58:15. > :58:23.flying ants that forgot his day is done. That was his second serve. It
:58:24. > :58:27.interrupted his rhythm between first and second serve. We see that so
:58:28. > :58:35.often, players Chuck in a double fault when their rhythm is damaged.
:58:36. > :58:39.30-30, 1-2. Is this another opportunity emerging for she'll --
:58:40. > :58:55.Gilles Muller. You know, we might see that quite
:58:56. > :59:01.often in week one but it's a surprise to see a double fault,
:59:02. > :59:07.regardless of the distraction in week two, because the guys get here
:59:08. > :59:14.because their mind is serene, they don't get distracted that easily.
:59:15. > :59:21.Clean winner from Marin Cilic, just to settle his nerves and he's firing
:59:22. > :59:30.himself up as he looks up towards his coach, Jonas Bjorkman.
:59:31. > :59:37.Yeah, double faults have been a bit of an issue for Gilles Muller in the
:59:38. > :59:39.tournament. None in this match so far, though. 29 in the tournament,
:59:40. > :00:08.Cilic has only served ten. But it's a philosophy. OK, that's
:00:09. > :00:14.double fault number 30 but that's in four matches, so seven double faults
:00:15. > :00:25.match, but let's forget he's played at
:00:26. > :00:34.15-13 match, that this two there. He hits an aggressive serve so the
:00:35. > :00:43.opponent cannot attack it so it is worth hitting a few doubles here and
:00:44. > :00:52.there. Once again, terrific half-volley. He is very adept at
:00:53. > :00:58.Catskill. -- at that skill. Looking for his 21st success in unbroken
:00:59. > :01:08.service games, Gilles Muller, as he sends down ace number six. There is
:01:09. > :01:17.his team watching on, what a week and a fortnight they have had.
:01:18. > :01:27.Muller mentally is rock-solid. We have seen nothing but his poker
:01:28. > :01:36.face. He just seems to go from strength to strength at the age of
:01:37. > :01:49.34. He finishes that game with an ace. The routine continues. They are
:01:50. > :01:58.rattling through this set and a half pretty quickly. She'll Muller,
:01:59. > :02:04.despite the marathon match the other night with Rafael Nadal, pretty calm
:02:05. > :02:09.and confident as the new balls are produced. Not for the next game, for
:02:10. > :02:15.later. The line judges have various roles through the match. Getting the
:02:16. > :02:24.ball is out of the tins being one of them. The psychology of a tennis
:02:25. > :02:34.match is pretty fascinating because it is like boxing in a way in that
:02:35. > :02:37.it is hand-to-hand combat. Not the physical great there is in boxing
:02:38. > :02:43.but the way you handle yourself, the way you carry your body throughout a
:02:44. > :02:51.match can impose itself on your opponent, and if a guy is fondling
:02:52. > :02:55.his shoulders and looking up it will often give his opponent and
:02:56. > :02:59.encouragement. Muller is just the opposite. He has got on with his
:03:00. > :03:04.business and perhaps that is affecting Cilic adverts were at the
:03:05. > :03:20.moment. Cilic normally bounces the ball a
:03:21. > :04:20.few times for delivering his serve. That was close. No talent from
:04:21. > :05:06.Cilic. -- zero challenge. More big serving. 126 mph down the
:05:07. > :05:28.centre. All square in the second set. No
:05:29. > :05:33.break points in the second instalment, yet we had just two
:05:34. > :05:45.break points, both for Gilles Muller, in the first set, and he
:05:46. > :06:01.took them both. They are all square on eight aces eight.
:06:02. > :06:12.That is a great reach and a beautiful volley from Gilles Muller.
:06:13. > :06:19.Yes, and Gilles Muller is the answer to everybody who say she cannot
:06:20. > :06:24.serve and volley into David's game. He is proving them wrong, 11 times
:06:25. > :06:31.in this match so far. There is another one. Did not have to play
:06:32. > :06:32.the second half, just the serve. Charging through another service
:06:33. > :07:16.game. That is a sensational points from
:07:17. > :07:47.Gilles Muller. In absolute control. Yeah. A great description, really.
:07:48. > :07:55.Muller in terrific balance forestry shot and he hits. That perhaps is
:07:56. > :08:04.why he has been so accurate. He teased Marin Cilic with this lob.
:08:05. > :08:14.Yeah. He is not the quickest guy. He would not confuse anyone. For one of
:08:15. > :08:20.the game's best athletes. Or they could not be confused for one of the
:08:21. > :08:26.best athletes. So it perhaps fits in that category, and yet because
:08:27. > :08:32.Muller has been aggressive off of the ground and has taken the ball
:08:33. > :08:54.early and he has looked in complete charge.
:08:55. > :10:28.Quite a lot of frame on that shot. Yeah, he seems to mis-hit more balls
:10:29. > :11:02.than most. A grasp of surprise around the
:11:03. > :11:10.court. A big double fault from Cilic, his fourth. There is no doubt
:11:11. > :11:15.that Gilles Muller has the support of the majority of the Court One
:11:16. > :11:31.crowd. They would love to see him break again.
:11:32. > :11:39.Sensational little sliced backhand winner. Muller has two break points.
:11:40. > :11:45.Really nicely played. That is the shot that said the point up. This
:11:46. > :11:47.one I was afraid he had it like that too why, perhaps it was going long.
:11:48. > :12:22.No. He had a really meaty swing at that,
:12:23. > :12:27.Muller, he fancied his chances of sending down a winner on the return
:12:28. > :12:31.of serve. Yes, you jumped all over it. A little anxious perhaps. Still
:12:32. > :13:18.break point. He struck it well. But of course
:13:19. > :13:32.sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.
:13:33. > :13:42.Cilic. That was an ace. He was heading off to play the next point.
:13:43. > :13:44.It was called long. It will be checked by Hawk-Eye. Cilic has
:13:45. > :14:09.challenged. He is wrong again. Loose from the Croatian. He is
:14:10. > :14:15.annoyed with themselves. He has given Muller a third break point
:14:16. > :14:20.opportunity in this game. Cilic has two challenges remaining. A little
:14:21. > :14:38.surprising how errant he has been off of the ground today.
:14:39. > :14:53.That one he enjoyed. So did the semifinalist Swede who is coaching
:14:54. > :15:33.Marin Cilic. A couple of aces and Cilic holds.
:15:34. > :15:41.And might we look back on that game as the turning point? Possibly. It
:15:42. > :15:44.is the second grass court match in London and about three weeks between
:15:45. > :15:54.these two. They played the semifinal at Queen's which Cilic won in three
:15:55. > :16:01.sets. This one matters an awful lot more, for a place in the Wimbledon
:16:02. > :16:25.semifinal. Something neither man has achieved.
:16:26. > :16:37.Muller is moving round the court like a teenager. Once again, the
:16:38. > :16:52.ground stroke was deep and did not allow Cilic to really rip it.
:16:53. > :17:52.Nicely played that time, Cilic gained the initiative and never let
:17:53. > :18:20.go of it. 120 mph. Muller has been economical
:18:21. > :18:23.with the number of points he has lost on serve, just eight compared
:18:24. > :18:55.to 24 Myron Cilic. An ace to conclude that game. Muller
:18:56. > :19:01.is back in front, potentially a game away from taking the second set.
:19:02. > :19:06.They are getting to the business end of the second set and we will be
:19:07. > :19:10.right back with it. On Centre Court Andy Murray was a set and the
:19:11. > :19:17.break-up against Sam Querrey but quickly broke once and then had a
:19:18. > :19:25.set point to level the match. He did it in some style. Out of nowhere we
:19:26. > :19:28.are level at one set all on Centre Court and Andy Murray has to dig
:19:29. > :19:37.deep in his quarterfinal match. That was a short time ago and Murray
:19:38. > :19:42.fights hard. He knows he has to get this match back in his favour. That
:19:43. > :19:56.is on BBC One. Murray fighting hard on Centre Court.
:19:57. > :19:59.That is the red button feature match. The ladies doubles
:20:00. > :20:13.quarterfinal. Back we got to see Marion Cilic
:20:14. > :20:20.serve to stay in the second set. I want one of those. You would look
:20:21. > :20:29.lovely in those red and white stripes. It is likely barbershop
:20:30. > :21:13.quartet. Marion Cilic Sturtevant Tuesday in the second set.
:21:14. > :21:23.Muller saw quite a few of those type shots the other night against Rafael
:21:24. > :21:28.Nadal who of course is the expert at hitting the short deep cross caught
:21:29. > :21:33.off of the two-handed. Yeah. That was a decent serve but absolutely
:21:34. > :22:44.ripped away by Muller. 123 mph, big ace to finish. Still no
:22:45. > :22:52.breaks of serve in the second set. Jonas Bjorkman with the white cap
:22:53. > :22:55.will be more content watching than he was in the opening set, which was
:22:56. > :23:02.dominated by the man from Luxembourg. Got a line judge right
:23:03. > :24:00.between the eyes. Another mishit. We talked about this
:24:01. > :24:16.a while ago, the number of mishits by --, -- Cilic are stocking up.
:24:17. > :24:34.Only 35% of the first serves have come back whereas 50% have been
:24:35. > :24:38.returned. A collective gasp at around quarter number one. Only the
:24:39. > :24:41.second double fault so far from Gilles Muller. A dangerous time in
:24:42. > :24:55.the set. The tenth ace to follow. Just a tidy
:24:56. > :25:48.things up. A roar from Cilic as he gets a break
:25:49. > :26:00.point. The first break point of the match for Cilic. He is dancing on
:26:01. > :26:02.the spot hoping to do some damage. Serve volley to the rescue for
:26:03. > :26:51.Gilles Muller. Like clockwork. It was a good aggressive shot but
:26:52. > :27:06.that sort of error gets into trouble. Made to the ball he have
:27:07. > :27:11.made. Muller keeps his cool. And keeps himself out in front in the
:27:12. > :27:23.second set. Cilic will serve next to stay in it once again. It is a
:27:24. > :27:32.rather lovely day in south-west London. The outside courts and
:27:33. > :27:37.caught two and caught the, the two newest of the show courts, two on
:27:38. > :27:42.the right of your screen, three on the right, mostly hosting doubles
:27:43. > :27:47.and juniors. A few sailboards out on the lake and Wimbledon Park as we
:27:48. > :27:53.look out onto the London City landmarks. Lots of building work
:27:54. > :27:57.going on there. It will not be long before another eight frames surround
:27:58. > :28:03.Court Number One to continue with the construction of the roof. Eight
:28:04. > :28:09.enormous cranes will be in place within a month of the Championships
:28:10. > :28:13.finishing or thereabouts as the tidy things up over the next two years to
:28:14. > :28:25.give us the second caught with a roof at the All England Club. --
:28:26. > :28:33.second court. One or two dark clouds above but it is bright and sunny at
:28:34. > :28:42.the moment. Cilic served successfully to stay in the second
:28:43. > :30:18.set and 4-5 and will try again. To take us potentially to a tie-break.
:30:19. > :30:28.That's efficient from Marin Cilic and a tie-break will decide the
:30:29. > :30:32.second set. Prior to this match Marin Cilic had not dropped a set
:30:33. > :30:38.throughout the Championships. He's dropped one here. He's played a
:30:39. > :30:43.couple of tie-breaks in the tournament so far. One against
:30:44. > :30:51.Florian Mayer in round two and one against Johnson in round three. Won
:30:52. > :31:01.them both. Muller has played two, won one and lost one. Over the year
:31:02. > :31:09.the record is more interesting, Cilic, only seven in ten in
:31:10. > :31:13.tie-breaks, Muller 16 - seven. That's dominant. Perhaps the man
:31:14. > :31:51.from Luxembourg has a slight edge here.
:31:52. > :31:55.Interesting. He was attempting one of those short backhand is inviting
:31:56. > :32:48.Cilic into the net again. 13 aces in the match now for Marin
:32:49. > :33:03.Cilic, 11 from Muller. He will hope for one or two more here. Behind in
:33:04. > :33:21.the tie-break. Slower ball out wide, 102 mph.
:33:22. > :33:40.In this situation I think you have to take away the slice serve from
:33:41. > :33:49.Muller every time, he can ace you every time beforehand but don't
:33:50. > :34:11.allow him to do it with his highest percentage serve.
:34:12. > :34:35.The second serve coming in at 100 mph. It's not slow but it's not the
:34:36. > :34:45.quickest we've seen this week. Muller jumping all over. Muller
:34:46. > :35:38.relished that forehand winner. He is now favourite for a 2-0 lead.
:35:39. > :35:49.So much variety on the Muller serve. Cilic is just left guessing every
:35:50. > :35:51.time. Another slower ball, 104 miles per hour. He needs just two points
:35:52. > :36:20.to seal the second set. What do you know? He hit the
:36:21. > :37:03.difficult serve, Cilic was there waiting for it.
:37:04. > :37:10.That's a good body serve on the second. Muller just unable to get
:37:11. > :37:15.out of the way of it will stop slight mis-hit off the return
:37:16. > :37:27.allowed the ball to sit in the middle of the court for Cilic.
:37:28. > :37:44.Ace from Cilic to set up the break point.
:37:45. > :37:52.Muller has been cool under pressure throughout. He needs a little bit
:37:53. > :37:59.more of that temperament here. Defending this set point. Now, where
:38:00. > :38:40.does he go? 285 and returned serves in the
:38:41. > :38:49.championship so far for Gilles Muller.
:38:50. > :38:58.He's just saved a set point. Can he generate one of his own here? 6-6,
:38:59. > :39:27.6-6 in the tie-break. It is a tight second serve. It's a
:39:28. > :39:34.double fault. And now Cilic has two opportunities with serve to wrap
:39:35. > :39:39.this up. At 7-6 he's got a set point. Set point number two for the
:39:40. > :40:21.Croatian. Oh! That is fantastic from Cilic.
:40:22. > :40:34.His coaching team on their feet. Cilic takes the second set.
:40:35. > :40:44.SUE BARKER: What a way to win it and a huge roar from Marin Cilic and
:40:45. > :40:47.he's back in this, 1-1, on Court Number One. We will be right back
:40:48. > :40:52.but we will show you what's happening elsewhere. When we were
:40:53. > :40:56.last on Centre Court we showed you Murray had lost the second set but
:40:57. > :41:00.he is up a break, breaking Querrey in the first service game of the
:41:01. > :41:05.third set as he did in the first. That matches on BBC One, Murray
:41:06. > :41:11.against Querrey is on BBC One. Over on 12, the feature match on the red
:41:12. > :41:23.button, Kuznetsova and Mladenovic up against Renato Ibarra server and her
:41:24. > :41:28.partner on the red button. A couple of results to bring you, Ken and
:41:29. > :41:34.Neal Skupski were defeated by the number four seeds Kubot and Marcelo
:41:35. > :41:38.Melo in three sets but it was really the first set tie-break when they
:41:39. > :41:47.lost it, 13-11, tough to come back from. They still have had a good
:41:48. > :41:52.Championships here. Here is a face to look out for in the future, Aidan
:41:53. > :41:56.McHugh of Great Britain was out of the Boys' Singles, this is a
:41:57. > :42:03.second-round match, and he put out a number six seed Marko Miladinovic of
:42:04. > :42:06.Serbia. Well done to him. He is Andy Murray's regular doubles partner,
:42:07. > :42:09.Andy Murray helping all the time and talking to him, no big celebration,
:42:10. > :42:13.he's saying I want to go even further in this tournament, and who
:42:14. > :42:15.knows how far he can go? Well done to young Aidan McHugh. That is what
:42:16. > :42:19.has been happening elsewhere but back we go down to Court Number One.
:42:20. > :42:27.1-1 it is. COMMENTATOR: Cilic will open the
:42:28. > :42:37.serving at the start of the third set.
:42:38. > :43:18.One hour and 31 minutes played. At least two more sets to come.
:43:19. > :43:28.Now we will see just how much Gilles Muller still has in the tank. He has
:43:29. > :43:35.shown no signs of fatigue so far. Yes. Prior to this match Cilic had
:43:36. > :43:53.had just over eight hours on Court. Muller just under 13 hours.
:43:54. > :44:32.First bit of serve and volley action from Marin Cilic.
:44:33. > :44:41.131 miles per out. That's big from Marin Cilic, just short of his
:44:42. > :44:42.quickest in this match, 132. Is fastest in the tournament just a
:44:43. > :45:01.notch quicker at 133. In this third set it is Muller
:45:02. > :45:39.having to play catch up. 0-1. So much more positivity and
:45:40. > :45:43.aggression from Marin Cilic at the end of that second set and in the
:45:44. > :46:22.early stages of this third. He's annoyed with himself. He was
:46:23. > :46:28.the dominant force in that exchange, and then a loose point. The Cilic
:46:29. > :47:05.camp lead on the left by Jonas Bjorkman.
:47:06. > :47:11.He couldn't have walked over there and placed it any better the way
:47:12. > :47:44.that serve was hit. He is pretty vocal at the moment,
:47:45. > :47:45.Marin Cilic. We had nothing but silence throughout from his
:47:46. > :48:06.opponent. It was a similar story in Muller's
:48:07. > :48:07.match against Nadal, he was the quiet one and Nadal was anything
:48:08. > :48:13.but. It was the quiet man who progressed
:48:14. > :48:39.in the previous round. Muller happy to get off the mark. In
:48:40. > :48:45.this third set it is 1-1. Jonas Bjorkman on the left with the
:48:46. > :48:56.mirrored sunglasses, a semifinalist here in 2006, lost in the semifinals
:48:57. > :48:59.to Roger Federer. Cilic has never been to the semis. He'd love to
:49:00. > :49:05.match the achievement of his coach. He seems to be making good progress
:49:06. > :49:22.at the moment after a difficult start. 1-1, 1-1.
:49:23. > :50:05.He's on a hat-trick here. Two in a row, looking for the third.
:50:06. > :50:13.Three in a row, hat-trick of aces from Marin Cilic, and all Muller is
:50:14. > :50:26.doing is striding from one side of the court to the other.
:50:27. > :50:42.Three aces and then a serve - volley winner, a fine game from Cilic.
:50:43. > :50:56.Muller did a nice job of stopping the rot, if you will. Holding serve
:50:57. > :51:05.pretty comfortably to start this third set. You get the feeling now
:51:06. > :51:12.that both guys are in a pretty good serving rhythm and that it might
:51:13. > :51:16.just be a case of biding their time. I mean, obviously they are going to
:51:17. > :51:22.try their best to make inroads on the opponent's serve but I'm not
:51:23. > :51:31.certain it's going to happen. This could just be 2-2, 3-3, 4-4
:51:32. > :51:36.tie-break. He won his first grass court tournament just prior to
:51:37. > :51:44.Wimbledon in the Netherlands, beating Ivo Karlovic in the final.
:51:45. > :51:46.The final with two of the oldest men in ATP history, 34-year-old Muller,
:51:47. > :52:06.and 38-year-old Karlovic. Muller is serving, 1-2, third set,
:52:07. > :52:55.1-1 here. Is that worth a challenge? I thought
:52:56. > :53:00.that might have just grazed the line. No trips upstairs to Hawk-Eye
:53:01. > :53:03.for Cilic, who has not had a good record with his challenges so far in
:53:04. > :54:00.this match. Dow was just a tease of a volley,
:54:01. > :54:03.wasn't it? Didn't hit it with any great power, just dropped it far
:54:04. > :54:05.enough away from Cilic that he had to chase it wasn't going to be able
:54:06. > :54:26.to do much with it. Two in a row serve-volley winners
:54:27. > :54:30.from Gilles Muller. He's at 50%, 23 out of 46 first serves have been
:54:31. > :54:49.combined with a volley. 26 service holds in a row for Gilles
:54:50. > :55:10.Muller, including the final set of his marathon with Nadal.
:55:11. > :55:17.Cilic got it done in the end. It's the most running Muller has done in
:55:18. > :56:13.a while. Whereas Muller, in the first set and
:56:14. > :56:18.a half, seemed to be all over Cilic's serve. He's put in not quite
:56:19. > :56:31.so many returns of late. 124 mph that last delivery, Cilic
:56:32. > :56:41.back in front, no breaks in this third set. The giant scoreboards on
:56:42. > :56:46.number one Court Flash up the information from around the club
:56:47. > :56:50.with what's going on on Centre and the other courts being used today.
:56:51. > :57:00.There is doubles and junior action outside.
:57:01. > :57:10.You can see the top left of the screen, Henman Hill is absolutely
:57:11. > :57:22.ramped again today with Andy Murray inaction on Centre Court, not a
:57:23. > :57:26.blade of grass to be had. That's the access to that part of the club,
:57:27. > :57:37.Aorangi Terrace is its official name. They are right next to where
:57:38. > :57:41.we are here. So often, if something exciting happens on the Centre
:57:42. > :57:45.Court, we can hear the cheers from the Hill. The giant screen they are
:57:46. > :57:59.watching on the hill is stapled to the side of number one court.
:58:00. > :58:09.Will Muller continue this unbroken trend? It seems likely. 2-3.
:58:10. > :58:39.That's an opportunity squandered. And he knows it.
:58:40. > :58:48.Effortless backhand volley from the 34-year-old Gilles Muller. That
:58:49. > :58:51.slice serve out why it does such a great job of taking Cilic off court,
:58:52. > :58:53.he doesn't have to do anything more than just bunt it into the open
:58:54. > :59:19.court. He uses that volley to great effect,
:59:20. > :59:22.just drops it short, so he's unable to track it down, Cilic. He is
:59:23. > :59:52.hoping for a deeper volley. One hour and 49 minutes in total.
:59:53. > :59:56.Really good tennis so far, Gilles Muller looking to book his place in
:59:57. > :00:02.the Wimbledon semifinals and play Murray or Querrey. Things started
:00:03. > :00:12.well and then Cilic turned up. And he turned up the heat. Bright
:00:13. > :00:18.sunshine on number one again now. Cilic with an extra issue with the
:00:19. > :00:32.sun, serving from this end. 21 aces in the match, so far, from
:00:33. > :01:17.Cilic. He is at 20 seconds, since the
:01:18. > :01:21.previous point ended. His average time is 23 seconds between points,
:01:22. > :01:26.so he is well over where he should be. No words of warning, so far,
:01:27. > :01:56.from umpire Jo Garner. The first signs of a stumble,
:01:57. > :02:02.potentially. He might give it longer between points here. On the regular
:02:03. > :02:08.tour away from the majors it is a 25 second rule. It is difficult for the
:02:09. > :02:10.players to change their rhythm. The umpires tend to be lenient over this
:02:11. > :02:26.issue. That was well left. I think the rule
:02:27. > :02:27.next year will change so it will be 25 seconds everywhere, which
:02:28. > :02:59.probably makes sense. Getting along towards two hours
:03:00. > :03:05.since the match began. It has been a very tight affair, as we expected it
:03:06. > :03:11.would be. And perhaps Cilic with the slight advantage now, in that he he
:03:12. > :03:18.is serving first, so not having to chase the score.
:03:19. > :03:36.Of course, now, I mean, soon, each break point that Cilic house will be
:03:37. > :03:44.a set point against Muller. -- that Cilic has. Look at that, you cannot
:03:45. > :03:54.buy those in the shops. Home-made. Wimbledon made drinks arriving. She
:03:55. > :03:59.has managed to make it back safely with refreshment. The only umbrellas
:04:00. > :04:14.being used are parasols. Muller in difficult territory now
:04:15. > :04:19.late in this third set. He remains unbroken since the start of the
:04:20. > :05:49.final set, in his match with Rafael Nadal.
:05:50. > :06:01.Yes, Muller there in plenty of time with the choice of shots to play.
:06:02. > :06:09.With a sublime defensive backhand. The approach shot was deep and hard.
:06:10. > :06:14.Muller used the power of Cilic's racket to block it back, keep it
:06:15. > :06:29.low. Forcing the Croatian to volley up.
:06:30. > :06:43.All square again. His crew, connections and coaches watching on,
:06:44. > :06:49.hoping their man can reach is first Grand Slam semifinal. Cilic went all
:06:50. > :06:57.the way at the US Open in 2014 and won the title. It's an big names,
:06:58. > :07:01.Marcos Baghdatis, Kevin Anderson, Berdych. Federer in the semifinal,
:07:02. > :07:08.and won the final in straight sets over Kei Nishikori. He became the
:07:09. > :07:16.first Japanese player into a major final.
:07:17. > :07:25.In fact, he won his last nine sets. Beating Berdych, Federer and Kei
:07:26. > :07:33.Nishikori in straight sets. He was on fire. Beating Federer in straight
:07:34. > :07:36.sets anywhere is something to celebrate. It does not happen too
:07:37. > :07:49.often. Just tying the shoe laces, possibly
:07:50. > :08:23.waiting for the aircraft noise to dissipate.
:08:24. > :08:32.A real urgency about the point from Gilles Muller. The ninth game of the
:08:33. > :08:34.third set. He thinks maybe this is an opportunity to strike for a break
:08:35. > :08:44.of serve. Beautifully done from Cilic. The
:08:45. > :09:49.angle made it impossible for Muller. Gilles Muller remains unbroken but
:09:50. > :09:55.after the change of ends, there will be extra pressure, he will be
:09:56. > :09:59.serving to stay in the set. SUE BARKER: Just over on Centre
:10:00. > :10:03.Court, it is Andy Murray taking on Sam Querrey and we have been talking
:10:04. > :10:08.about the hip and the problems he has had. This happened towards the
:10:09. > :10:12.end of the third set, when Murray was serving and you can see he was
:10:13. > :10:19.really in trouble. We will slow it down. You can see he really pulls
:10:20. > :10:25.up. That is not looking good for Murray, but all I can say is that he
:10:26. > :10:31.may be not looking good between the points, but he is still moving well.
:10:32. > :10:35.A definite problem for Andy Murray, but he is battling on on Centre

:10:43. > :10:49.and it is on serve in the fourth set so he is battling hard and that

:10:57. > :11:05.12. Kuznetsova and Kristina Mladenovic. They lost the first set.
:11:06. > :11:13.That is the feature match on the red button.
:11:14. > :12:19.Two hours of play and here is Muller serving to stay in this third set.
:12:20. > :12:33.Muller is doing the basics, keeping Marin Cilic trapped behind his
:12:34. > :12:40.baseline. Unable to dominate points with a foot inside his own baseline.
:12:41. > :12:56.A tie-break in this set looks increasingly likely.
:12:57. > :13:09.That has been a rarity, a double fault from Muller.
:13:10. > :13:23.40-0 up, I guess that is the best time to serve a double fault.
:13:24. > :13:27.And a puff of white as that one kicked up off the line. All square
:13:28. > :13:48.again. The first set was rapid, 33 minutes.
:13:49. > :13:54.The second set taking almost an hour and up to 34 minutes for the third.
:13:55. > :14:09.Cilic still taking an awful long time to prepare as he gazed towards

:14:16. > :14:27.Heading towards 100 for the tournament. 94 now.
:14:28. > :14:48.He is settling into a nice serving rhythm now.
:14:49. > :14:54.He did not use the serve-volley tactic in the first set but it has
:14:55. > :14:59.become a more regular manoeuvre as the match has gone on for Cilic.
:15:00. > :15:17.Mimicking what he has seen from his opponent.
:15:18. > :15:29.Cilic in total control during the service game in this third set.
:15:30. > :15:31.Muller will attempt to take it to a tie-break as he steps out to serve

:15:54. > :16:00.against top-10 opposition in a Grand Slam, for the first time after his
:16:01. > :16:10.defeat by Rafa Nadal. Ending a ten match losing streak over top-10
:16:11. > :16:12.players. As you might expect in a match this close, Muller has won one
:16:13. > :16:36.more points than Marin Cilic. Shade offered to the players out the
:16:37. > :16:41.sit down as the afternoon temperature warms up. Much more
:16:42. > :16:49.manageable in the second half of the second week than in the first seven,
:16:50. > :16:51.eight days of the Championships. Muller serving to take us to a
:16:52. > :16:56.tie-break. He saw it very early. He struck it
:16:57. > :17:32.cleanly. Now, this is troublesome for Gilles
:17:33. > :17:38.Muller. 31 service games without being broken, but at 0-30, Cilic is
:17:39. > :17:49.beginning to think he could end that run.
:17:50. > :18:09.This is a must make second serve. How daring will he be with it?
:18:10. > :18:18.A shallow second serve. 102 mph, picked off comfortably by Cilic, who
:18:19. > :18:43.now has three set points. Don't bet against Gilles Muller
:18:44. > :19:12.squirming out of this one. So secure off the first volley.
:19:13. > :19:16.Unbelievably cool. What a temperament, Gilles Muller. Two set
:19:17. > :19:36.point saved. One more to defend. Oh, he has dumped it in the net and
:19:37. > :19:52.Muller is broken, finally, as Cilic take the third set.
:19:53. > :20:04.That has to be a gut-wrenching error from Muller. First serve, set up a
:20:05. > :20:13.routine volley. It just caught the tape.
:20:14. > :20:28.Cilic, first-served points won, 95%. He was not going to be broken.
:20:29. > :20:30.Muller with no break points. That was that, that put the pressure on
:20:31. > :20:43.Muller. And it took the one error together
:20:44. > :20:49.with a couple of fine returns from Cilic, but he needed help and got it
:20:50. > :20:55.with the volley error. Now, you would have to think, that Cilic has
:20:56. > :21:09.the upper hand. His camp is pumped up. He is pumped up. Muller must be
:21:10. > :21:16.fatigued just a bit. Cilic roaring like a lion after he won the third
:21:17. > :21:21.set. He is back on his feet, ready to play. He is eager to continue
:21:22. > :21:28.with Gilles Muller still in his chair.
:21:29. > :21:39.Drama to conclude the third set. Muller broken at last. And Cilic
:21:40. > :22:19.will serve first in set number four with new balls.
:22:20. > :22:24.Cilic has to keep up the same levels of intensity with which he triumphed
:22:25. > :22:53.in the third set. It was a skittish Cilic who dumped
:22:54. > :23:23.serve twice in the first set. He appears a little calmer now.
:23:24. > :23:32.That was a strange shot selection. Surprised he did not go crosscourt
:23:33. > :23:41.because Muller's return was deep. A couple of unforced errors and 21 in
:23:42. > :23:45.total for Cilic. Muller on his toes, waiting to pick the first serve. He
:23:46. > :24:29.will get a second serve to look at now.
:24:30. > :24:41.A slight stutter in that service game from Cilic, but no damage done.
:24:42. > :24:59.That one flew off the Muller frame, sitting up kindly for Marin Cilic.
:25:00. > :25:09.All is well for the Croatian, you get the feeling. Tension on the
:25:10. > :26:05.Gilles Muller benches. Muller has now served 298 unreturned
:26:06. > :26:17.serves in the Championships. 114 aces. And the serve-volley that cost
:26:18. > :26:27.him the third set cost him a point there. He might be backing off
:26:28. > :26:37.slightly from his serve-volley now. A couple have gone astray.
:26:38. > :26:45.Beautifully struck return. More and more often, Cilic starting to time
:26:46. > :27:07.his returns crisply. And that was one of the best returns
:27:08. > :27:11.of the match from Marin Cilic. Break points. In the second game of the
:27:12. > :27:16.fourth set. Cilic is fired up. Talking to
:27:17. > :27:32.himself. Is this his big chance? Muller's first serve is one foot
:27:33. > :27:55.wide. That was a chance. He had to reach
:27:56. > :28:31.for it, but still, was in good enough position. Just inches wide.
:28:32. > :28:39.Well watched. Muller thought about taking it mid-court, the overhead,
:28:40. > :28:40.and then spotted it had a little bit of extra pace about it. Good
:28:41. > :29:26.decision. Overhead from Muller. Saves a break
:29:27. > :29:37.point on his way to a one all scoreline. Is He's not going to roll
:29:38. > :29:40.over, is he? If he is fatiguing a little bit, he's not, he's not
:29:41. > :29:48.showing it, readily. That's how tight it is. 101. 101
:29:49. > :30:17.points each. Muller's not convinced about that
:30:18. > :30:27.one. It was called in. Will it be Cilic's 24th ace or will it be a
:30:28. > :30:33.second serve? It's ace number 24. UMPIRE: Mr Muller has two chances
:30:34. > :31:16.remaining. He's used his challenges sparingly, Muller.
:31:17. > :31:25.Comes down from such a height. He's a big man, Marin Cilic. 6 feet 6
:31:26. > :31:46.inches tall. 1 meter 98. Muller doesn't like the one of that
:31:47. > :31:52.either. UMPIRE: The ball was called in.
:31:53. > :31:57.COMMENTATOR: Will he get this one right, Gilles Muller. Or will that
:31:58. > :31:59.be ace number 26th for Cilic. No, it's a good challenge that time,
:32:00. > :32:43.from Muller. Cilic holds, again. Leads the fourth
:32:44. > :32:49.set. He leads by 2-1. SUE BARKER: We will be back with
:32:50. > :32:54.this match. A story is brewing on Centre Court where Andy Murray has
:32:55. > :32:59.dropped the fourth set, 6-1. Sam Querrey has won seven games in a
:33:00. > :33:03.row. He now has two break points to go 2-0 up. Andy limping on every
:33:04. > :33:06.point. He is struggling to get to the
:33:07. > :33:10.balls. He is fighting out there. But at the moment it's all going one
:33:11. > :33:18.way. Sam Querrey senses victory. That match is over on BBC One.
:33:19. > :33:23.Fourth set took 22 minutes. Racing through, Querrey. We will see if he
:33:24. > :33:34.can win this. A drop shot, and he has. That's one of them. That match
:33:35. > :33:41.is over on BBC One. Is back we go to Court 1.
:33:42. > :33:46.COMMENTATOR: Spectators coming in in large numbers following a late lunch
:33:47. > :33:51.and refreshments. Movement around the court. The umpire asking them to
:33:52. > :33:56.find their seats quickly or take any seat available. Gilles Muller
:33:57. > :34:03.returning to serve. Saved a break point in his last service game. Is
:34:04. > :34:11.the fatigue starting to creep up on him following the efforts of the
:34:12. > :34:28.victory in the final set over Rafael Nadal.
:34:29. > :35:26.Big serve. 121mph. Muller's quickest, 122 in this match so far.
:35:27. > :35:42.So that's up near his top end. Oh. That's one to saviour for Marin
:35:43. > :35:49.Cilic. 30-30 on the Muller serve. Yeah, he was at full stretch.
:35:50. > :35:55.Perhaps, a slight miss-hit off the top, the bottom of the racquet. That
:35:56. > :36:04.took a little speed off it. Perhaps kept it in court.
:36:05. > :36:18.APPLAUSE Half-volley. Absolutely brilliant.
:36:19. > :36:23.That's about as tough as they come. Perfectly placed. Nice technique.
:36:24. > :37:08.Still a lot of life in those legs. APPLAUSE
:37:09. > :37:19.Good anticipation. As if he was inside Cilic's head.
:37:20. > :37:25.Two games all, no way past Gilles Muller there.
:37:26. > :38:09.Not seen too many baseline exchanges. Just 11 strokes. I think
:38:10. > :39:02.that came in the opening set. APPLAUSE
:39:03. > :39:08.He does like to run around on to that forehand wing. That's where he
:39:09. > :39:12.gets the pace and power. Yeah, he's got the bit between his teeth now.
:39:13. > :39:13.He's a different guy from the guy who came out tentively in set number
:39:14. > :39:23.one. That's going to hurt. That will make
:39:24. > :40:21.Cilic sweat, 30-30. Muller stepped too far forward to
:40:22. > :40:24.pick up that second serve. Yeah, it bounded off the court surface,
:40:25. > :40:56.didn't it really? Vaulted up. Well that was ambitious. The ball
:40:57. > :41:02.stayed low. Cilic at full stretch. Tried to hit it over the high part
:41:03. > :41:09.of the net, with power. It was always going to be very difficult.
:41:10. > :41:14.Cilic with plenty to think about here, 2-2, deuce. It's been a poor
:41:15. > :41:17.game by his recent standards. Although that serve down the centre
:41:18. > :41:48.was a monster. 129mph. Gets himself out of trouble. A
:41:49. > :42:05.couple of free points. Umunna Cilic leads 3-2, fourth set, leads two
:42:06. > :42:16.sets to one. -- UMPIRE: Cilic leads 3-2, fourth set,
:42:17. > :42:21.leads two sets to one. COMMENTATOR: Got to the semi-finals
:42:22. > :42:26.in the tournament that Muller won. He's been building slowly. It's a
:42:27. > :42:35.slow burn on the grass for Marin Cilic this summer. As he attempts to
:42:36. > :42:40.reach the Wimbledon semi-final. The winner of the Murray-Querrey match,
:42:41. > :42:44.currently in its final set on Centre Court, awaits the winner of this
:42:45. > :42:52.one. UMPIRE: Time.
:42:53. > :42:57.Is COMMENTATOR: Yeah, and I would have
:42:58. > :43:05.thought that up until now these players have no idea what's going on
:43:06. > :43:09.on Centre Court. Should that match end before this one, the news will
:43:10. > :43:16.flash on the scoreboard. That might make a few people think. Muller,
:43:17. > :43:21.2-3, fourth set. Wow! Great wrong footing, first
:43:22. > :44:10.volley. Loose. That was loose from Gilles
:44:11. > :44:15.Muller. 22nd unforced error of the match. It's a tough watch for the
:44:16. > :44:29.coaches. That's the loudest line judge at
:44:30. > :45:05.Wimbledon. Cilic is on his toes. Can he
:45:06. > :45:07.generate a break point here? This will be two. Can Muller find another
:45:08. > :45:20.ace? That was a rather laboured first
:45:21. > :45:22.serve. It was a big miss. Second serve at 15-30, has to make this
:45:23. > :45:40.count. I don't think that's coming back.
:45:41. > :45:47.And here are two break points for Marin Cilic. Beautifully played.
:45:48. > :45:55.Beautifully disguised, delicate lob. Muller's in a whole lot of trouble
:45:56. > :46:27.here, 15-40, 2-3. Come on!
:46:28. > :46:34.APPLAUSE Throughout the week at Queen's Cilic
:46:35. > :46:38.was hitting his forehand so aggressively, so perfectly. Perhaps
:46:39. > :46:42.doesn't quite have that same confidence at the moment. That was
:46:43. > :46:51.the joint longest rally of the match at 11 strokes. Still a break point
:46:52. > :46:57.for the Croatian. This time, Muller finds a first serve.
:46:58. > :47:38.APPLAUSE UMPIRE: Deuce.
:47:39. > :47:44.COMMENTATOR: Oh, he's missed another straight-forward backhand. He can't
:47:45. > :48:00.believe it. Yeah, it was very short. Oh, I see,
:48:01. > :48:12.he tried the old lob wedge drop shot. Cilic-dipped it.
:48:13. > :48:18.APPLAUSE Muller gets himself out of trouble.
:48:19. > :48:27.Unbelievable strengthen of character from Gilles Muller. Is
:48:28. > :48:32.UMPIRE: Three games all, fourth set. COMMENTATOR: Cilic had his chances.
:48:33. > :48:39.Now, he has to put the disappointment behind him and get
:48:40. > :48:46.back to serving cleanly. 26 aces in the match so far. 49 unreturned
:48:47. > :48:54.serves. He has been on excellent form when serving.
:48:55. > :50:04.Oh! Oh, that's going to hurt. That will sting. It's just a flesh wound!
:50:05. > :50:14.This is the first serve that struck the line judge.
:50:15. > :50:54.Cilic was quick to offer his apologies.
:50:55. > :51:07.Very little change here on Court No 1. Service holds all round. Muller
:51:08. > :51:11.next to step up at 3-4. Real pressure game, knowing if he's
:51:12. > :51:21.broken, Cilic will serve for his place in the semi-final. Energy gels
:51:22. > :51:24.going in. Lots of liquid as well. Finished late on Monday night, the
:51:25. > :51:41.match with Nadal. Fifth sets. Had 36-hours or so to
:51:42. > :51:53.recover. But now, of course, Muller up against the obvious scoreboard
:51:54. > :51:57.pressure. And there's an echo around Court 1 as the Andy Murray score
:51:58. > :52:05.flashed up on the scoreboard in here. So whoever wins this knows who
:52:06. > :52:17.they are likely to be playing in the semi-final. That will be on Friday.
:52:18. > :52:23.That will be on Centre Court. Will it be Muller or will it be Cilic?
:52:24. > :52:28.Well, Cilic leads by two sets to one. On serve in the fourth.
:52:29. > :53:06.Muller's turn to serve. 3-4. Delicate.
:53:07. > :53:13.APPLAUSE Cilic showing his softer side there.
:53:14. > :53:40.Yeah. Did a nice job of ghosting in. Got there very quickly as well.
:53:41. > :54:13.Yep, Cilic had so much time to decide what to do and pick his spot
:54:14. > :54:23.for the pass. Yeah. Terrific return at full
:54:24. > :54:38.stretch. Muller could do nothing more than just pop it up.
:54:39. > :54:48.Timely ace. 13 in total now in this match from Gilles Muller. Cilic,
:54:49. > :55:17.double that. Oh! How about that from Marin Cilic?
:55:18. > :55:28.APPLAUSE And that little bit of magic brings
:55:29. > :55:30.Cilic a break point. And Cilic, more and more, starting to feel the
:55:31. > :55:41.force. Second serve pressure here on Gilles
:55:42. > :55:58.Muller. Oh, what a shot.
:55:59. > :56:04.APPLAUSE Break point down. A rocket from
:56:05. > :56:07.Muller. UMPIRE: Deuce.
:56:08. > :56:20.COMMENTATOR: He just doesn't want to go away, does he?
:56:21. > :56:37.UMPIRE: Advantage, Muller. COMMENTATOR: His volleying has been
:56:38. > :56:43.so precise. Unfortunately, he will look at the one he missed at set
:56:44. > :56:47.point on the third set Andrew that one. But the rest of them have been
:56:48. > :56:52.sweet. He comes through another service game, saving a break point
:56:53. > :56:58.along the way. Seven break points saved in this match, out of eight.
:56:59. > :57:03.Thus far for Gilles Muller. You're right, he does not want to go away.
:57:04. > :57:56.There's more mileage in this match. Well, the approach just didn't push
:57:57. > :58:45.Cilic out of position enough. He was in good balance and ripped it.
:58:46. > :58:53.Oh, that was perfecting by Gilles Muller.
:58:54. > :59:00.Is there a little bit of momentum building once again for the man from
:59:01. > :59:24.Luxembourg? Not happy about that miss, it was a
:59:25. > :59:54.regulation forehand. UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is challenging the
:59:55. > :00:00.call. Cilic thinks this might have just
:00:01. > :00:16.clipped the line, but it was a correct call from the line judge.
:00:17. > :00:25.Loose from Gilles Muller. Cilic a game away from a Wimbledon
:00:26. > :00:28.semifinal. Muller will serve to stay in this match. Two hours and 50
:00:29. > :00:40.minutes on. The challenge for Gilles Muller is
:00:41. > :00:44.that he has had just one break point since midway through the second set
:00:45. > :00:47.and so the tide has well and truly turned. He did not convert that one,
:00:48. > :01:11.by the way. Cilic has just pulled out some fresh
:01:12. > :01:16.strings ready for this next game, looking for some extra fuel, as
:01:17. > :01:36.well, from his connections. A new racket is ready to go.
:01:37. > :01:46.This has been a compelling contest between these two. New balls. Hence
:01:47. > :01:47.the fresh strings for Cilic. Muller serving to stay in the
:01:48. > :02:10.Championships. Uh-oh. Muller's sixth double fault.
:02:11. > :02:31.A tense time for his coaching team. UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is challenging the
:02:32. > :02:36.call. Cilic seemed convinced it was longer and I think Muller thinks it
:02:37. > :02:59.is long, he seems to be preparing for a second serve, but it was good.
:03:00. > :03:09.Unbelievable reactions from Gilles Muller. He had to adjust after the
:03:10. > :03:18.ball flew through the tape. So often today he has given us Johnny Mac
:03:19. > :03:24.looks. He has been superb at the net.
:03:25. > :03:28.Serving and volleying with unbelievable prowess, this
:03:29. > :03:38.afternoon. It is a pretty impressive
:03:39. > :03:46.percentage, 44 of 55. Sloppy, really, from Cilic. Muller
:03:47. > :04:47.levels the scoreline again. Two hours, 54 minutes, it has been a
:04:48. > :04:55.match you cannot take your eyes off for a second.
:04:56. > :05:18.Unhappy with his choice of tennis balls.
:05:19. > :05:32.Oh, yes, deep, perfect placement from Gilles Muller.
:05:33. > :05:47.It is a very short take back on his backhand return.
:05:48. > :05:53.He has missed that. Goodness me. Never got near it. Is this something
:05:54. > :06:25.brewing for Gilles Muller here? UMPIRE: Time violation warning. I am
:06:26. > :06:28.not surprised. That is the longest preparation we have seen from Marin
:06:29. > :06:32.Cilic. He has been given the warning.
:06:33. > :06:43.He needs to get this first serve in now.
:06:44. > :07:03.It has dropped. A huge chunk of good fortune for Gilles Muller. Three
:07:04. > :07:11.break points. Brilliant. Muller has got the break.
:07:12. > :08:03.Muller will serve for the set. You have got to love this guy. He
:08:04. > :08:09.just keeps fighting. He keeps fighting and keeps believing. He has
:08:10. > :08:21.got to be fatigued now. Some part of him must be thinking a long way
:08:22. > :08:29.back. To win these last two sets, but that voice, wherever it is has
:08:30. > :08:33.been told, countless times, shut up, I am not having any of that. But he
:08:34. > :08:38.keeps plugging away. Perhaps a touch of luck in the last return game, but
:08:39. > :09:01.heap are -- he parlayed it. Just under three hours since this
:09:02. > :09:08.match began. It deserves a final set. As Gilles Muller prepares to
:09:09. > :09:29.serve for set number four. The Muller fans, on Centre Court,
:09:30. > :09:31.are aroused again. He made a name for himself on the evening of the
:09:32. > :09:51.marathon win over Rafael Nadal. The 15th ace for the 16th seed, who
:09:52. > :09:54.is two points away from levelling this match.
:09:55. > :10:32.UMPIRE: Let, first service. Exactly three hours since this
:10:33. > :10:56.quarterfinal began and Gilles Muller has earned himself three set points.
:10:57. > :11:39.Cilic is not finished with this set just yet. That first serve, it was
:11:40. > :11:45.not the most powerful delivery he has shown today. That one just slid
:11:46. > :12:06.in to make sure he made it. Will he serve and volley here?
:12:07. > :12:17.We are into a fifth. They courageous fightback from Gilles Muller. And
:12:18. > :12:27.this quarterfinal is going the distance. I think we have to chalk
:12:28. > :12:34.it up to Muller's fighting instincts. He is going off to take a
:12:35. > :12:50.break for a moment. First serves, dipped a bit. 63%.
:12:51. > :12:58.Very respectable. Again winning the majority of his first serve points.
:12:59. > :13:04.Cilic had four break points in the fourth set and failed to convert any
:13:05. > :13:17.of them. And that was the difference.
:13:18. > :13:25.Unbelievable self belief for Gilles Muller. He has put these guys
:13:26. > :13:29.through the mill. He did the same on Monday, Wednesday afternoon, and a
:13:30. > :13:41.repeat performance, we are into a decider. Muller comes within a set
:13:42. > :13:47.of his first Grand Slam semifinal. He is going to make them wait. Marin
:13:48. > :13:53.Cilic has wrapped himself in a towel to keep himself warm. It is not the
:13:54. > :14:04.hottest day of the Championships, it is a little cooler this afternoon.
:14:05. > :14:13.But still very comfortable for all concerned, spectators and players
:14:14. > :14:18.alike. The sun has gone in and out. It is a bit hazy at the moment. But
:14:19. > :14:28.the perfect environment for a deciding set. Will it be another
:14:29. > :14:37.15-13 epic? The odds are against that, but... I think the chance for
:14:38. > :14:41.a cliffhanger are pretty good. In 2012, Cilic played the second
:14:42. > :14:50.longest men's singles match in Wimbledon history. We know the
:14:51. > :14:57.longest, of course. He went 17-15. That was in the third round to
:14:58. > :15:01.defeat Sam Querrey in five hours, 31 minutes. He is used to long
:15:02. > :15:06.encounters and, of course, Gilles Muller had one of those a couple of
:15:07. > :15:15.days ago in his match with Rafael Nadal. We are ready for the final
:15:16. > :15:21.set. The Court One crowd settling, hoping the quality will be as good
:15:22. > :15:31.as it has been throughout the first four. Cilic has the honour at the
:15:32. > :16:11.start of the fifth and final set. No tie-break, remember.
:16:12. > :16:19.Once or twice the backhand volley has let Marin Cilic town. But that
:16:20. > :16:53.one was good enough. Muller climbed all over that short
:16:54. > :16:57.second serve. He is not afraid to go for his shots. If the ball sits
:16:58. > :17:26.there for him, he will take it on happily.
:17:27. > :17:33.Muller did a lot of running during this point. Controlled from behind
:17:34. > :17:47.the Cilic baseline. First game of the final set is a
:17:48. > :17:52.service holds. I think we will see more and more in this final set,
:17:53. > :18:03.Muller trying to shorten rallies and trying to be the aggressor. He does
:18:04. > :18:05.not want to allow Cilic to move him side to side to side, as happened in
:18:06. > :18:56.that last game. Cilic's turned to do some running.
:18:57. > :19:02.East and west across his baseline. Three hours and eight minutes for
:19:03. > :19:07.this match so far. Muller's legs have got to be feeling it. For hours
:19:08. > :19:13.and 48 minutes on Monday, his victory over Rafa Nadal.
:19:14. > :19:25.A terrific return. The serve exactly where Muller hope to put it. You
:19:26. > :19:33.see, it came off the frame a bit, which pushed it closer to the line.
:19:34. > :19:43.That was his 65th winner, 15 more than Muller. A good serve and a good
:19:44. > :19:52.return. Now, Cilic is making a serious move.
:19:53. > :20:13.That return was sent dipping towards Muller's tennis shoes.
:20:14. > :20:49.Oh, fantastic! Well, the majority of the crowd are here supporting Gilles
:20:50. > :20:59.Muller. But they had to applaud this little bit of genius from the
:21:00. > :21:06.Croatian. The serve came in at 121. His quickest today was 122, so it is
:21:07. > :21:10.more a case of Cilic getting in his eye, than Muller waning at this
:21:11. > :21:49.point. UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is challenging the
:21:50. > :21:51.call. I think it is a double fault. I think Cilic is already preparing
:21:52. > :22:08.for the next point. That is his 100th ace of the
:22:09. > :23:43.tournament. Muller can sense an opportunity. He
:23:44. > :23:49.may be a break down, but mentally, he still believes. Still contesting
:23:50. > :24:07.every point. Cilic produces ace number 29 in the
:24:08. > :24:11.match. 101 for the tournament. Total points won. 137 plays 140. That is
:24:12. > :24:20.how tight it has been. Cilic rubber-stamps the earlier
:24:21. > :24:47.break. It is a bright, sunny afternoon in
:24:48. > :24:51.Wimbledon now. The Centre Court roof has remained open. It was shut
:24:52. > :24:58.yesterday for the first time during the Championships. You can see the
:24:59. > :25:02.alleyways between the outside courts teeming with ground pass holders,
:25:03. > :25:08.looking at some of the doubles and mixed doubles and the juniors. In
:25:09. > :25:14.all the various walkways and stairwells that link between Centre
:25:15. > :25:15.Court, the members' area and TV centre and then become to the north
:25:16. > :25:34.end Number One Court, which is mid restoration. It will look like a
:25:35. > :25:41.mini version of Centre Court when the roof is attached. It will be
:25:42. > :25:46.ready in 2019 to keep the rain off and to ensure there are two courts
:25:47. > :25:57.in use during the two weeks of the Championships. Cilic was just asking
:25:58. > :26:25.Muller to wait. It is a long way back from here.
:26:26. > :26:38.Stunning. He is on top of things now. That ground stroke did the
:26:39. > :26:47.damage. Muller could do nothing more than drop short and see you later.
:26:48. > :27:00.That is where they challenge, isn't it? I thought it could have been on
:27:01. > :27:06.the line. We will see. It was just under the umpire's chair. There was
:27:07. > :27:16.no overrule from Mr Garner. Painfully close.
:27:17. > :27:44.That is why he is the lines man we are not.
:27:45. > :28:26.Solid serving will stop just making sure of finding the target. 109 mph.
:28:27. > :28:34.A misjudgement from Muller. Break point for Cilic to give him a 4-0
:28:35. > :29:18.lead. It was too long again and it is 4-
:29:19. > :29:22.02 Cilic. The roar from the Croatian emphasised that, making Muller feel
:29:23. > :29:24.even worse about how this final set has unfolded. Clearly, winning the
:29:25. > :29:41.first set was Muller's last hurrah. This time going for the winners,
:29:42. > :29:42.knowing that he does not have the legs to last into many rallies from
:29:43. > :29:59.here on. Cilic almost there. 4-0. We have
:30:00. > :30:03.talked about Muller's incredible mental resilience, but right now, he
:30:04. > :30:13.has checked out of here. Surely there is no way back?
:30:14. > :30:19.No way back assuming Cilic doesn't open the door. Of course Muller's
:30:20. > :30:22.going to hang around and hope his opponent starts donating a few
:30:23. > :30:31.errors, but it certainly doesn't look as though that's a possibility.
:30:32. > :31:25.He keeps sending down the aces. 31 in the match.
:31:26. > :31:40.Effortless power, with no real pressure from Marin Cilic. 127mph.
:31:41. > :31:44.0-5. Yeah. We thought coming into this match that Gilles Muller would
:31:45. > :31:49.need to get off to a good start. Would need perhaps to win it in
:31:50. > :32:00.straight-sets. He did get off to a superb start. Had two break points
:32:01. > :32:04.in the second set to go up 2-0. He wasn't able to capitalise on either
:32:05. > :32:12.of those, and the match turned. Cilic started to gain a foothold.
:32:13. > :32:23.When he won the second set and then the third, it always looked to be
:32:24. > :32:28.rough sledding for this man. Well, he'll look back on his Wimbledon,
:32:29. > :32:32.I'm sure, once the dust has settled, with pride. Particularly with the
:32:33. > :32:43.win over Rafael Nadal. That was on Monday evening. He's had a fine
:32:44. > :32:50.year, the best year of his career. 34 years old, father-of-two. -- 24.
:32:51. > :32:56.Many more years ahead of him, I'm sure, but it's looking 99% likely it
:32:57. > :33:01.will be Marin Cilic off to face Sam Querrey in the semi-final as Muller
:33:02. > :33:05.prepares to serve to stay in the championships. 2-2, 0-5 in the
:33:06. > :33:19.fifth. I wonder how many betting slips are
:33:20. > :33:22.out there that show Querrey v Cilic in the semi-finals? A bit like
:33:23. > :33:59.winning the Lottery. Tired looking shot from Gilles
:34:00. > :34:02.Muller. No surprise, three-and-a-half hours almost out
:34:03. > :34:40.here today. Nearly five hours on Monday night.
:34:41. > :34:53.Muller will hope to win this service game and look... Make the scoreboard
:34:54. > :35:10.look a little less untidy. UMPIRE: Game, Muller. New balls
:35:11. > :35:16.please. COMMENTATOR: New balls for Marin
:35:17. > :35:25.Cilic, he will serve for the match. UMPIRE: Cilic leads 5-1, final set.
:35:26. > :35:30.COMMENTATOR: It's been a fine contest, much to enjoy. Gilles
:35:31. > :35:33.Muller made his name here at Wimbledon on Monday night, many
:35:34. > :35:37.occasional tennis watchers won't have known too much about him, but
:35:38. > :35:44.would have been impressed by the way he overcame Rafael Nadal and were
:35:45. > :35:53.here to watch and support him. But it's just about over, as Cilic with
:35:54. > :36:24.new balls prepares to serve for a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
:36:25. > :36:39.Another 11 stroke rally. That's still the longest number of shots in
:36:40. > :36:42.the match so far. Yeah, hoping just to put it past Cilic, but from that
:36:43. > :36:52.far behind the baseline, unlikely. COMMENTATOR: Strong from Muller.
:36:53. > :37:36.APPLAUSE All Cilic could do was stand and
:37:37. > :37:59.stare as this forehand went flying past.
:38:00. > :38:07.131mph on the serve. No sign of tired shoulders from Marin Cilic,
:38:08. > :38:10.he's still sending them in thick and fast.
:38:11. > :38:20.32 aces in the match. 64 unreturned serves.
:38:21. > :38:35.And a few double faults along the way. That's his ninth.
:38:36. > :39:13.Ha, ha, ha! APPLAUSE
:39:14. > :39:17.Wry smile on the face of Gilles Muller's coach. He wants to extend
:39:18. > :39:30.the life of this contest a little further and has a break point.
:39:31. > :39:34.UMPIRE: Deuce. COMMENTATOR: Ace number 33 deals
:39:35. > :40:10.with that. Body serve. Muller's tired legs
:40:11. > :40:23.couldn't get out of the way quick enough. So after three hours and 29
:40:24. > :40:32.minutes, on Court No. 1, Marin Cilic has match point.
:40:33. > :40:44.Cilic is in the Wimbledon semi-finals! CHEERING
:40:45. > :40:51.Gilles Muller's championship odyssey, which included victory over
:40:52. > :40:56.Rafael Nadal and in four hours and 48 minutes, ends here at the hands
:40:57. > :41:05.of the number seven seed. They are on their feet around Court 1. Cilic
:41:06. > :41:09.will play Querrey in the Wimbledon semi-final.
:41:10. > :41:13.APPLAUSE Yeah, we thought the way Cilic
:41:14. > :41:19.played at Queen's, just a couple of weeks ago, that he might be a real
:41:20. > :41:27.threat to go far in this event, and so it has proved. He has been, well,
:41:28. > :41:34.rock solid from the baseline, behind serve. He's sprayed together enough
:41:35. > :41:45.winning returns to be dangerous and, well, he must be the favourite in
:41:46. > :41:49.Friday's semi-final. Cilic gifting his match towel to one of the
:41:50. > :41:54.spectators, somebody who was in the front row o. I'm not sure if that
:41:55. > :42:00.was a friend or somebody who was very supportive of him throughout
:42:01. > :42:04.that match. Gilles Muller, they are both true gentleman these guys.
:42:05. > :42:08.Muller rightly waiting for Cilic to pack his bags. They will walk off
:42:09. > :42:16.court together. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Gilles Muller
:42:17. > :42:22.has won an awful lot of admirers during his ten days at the
:42:23. > :42:28.Championships. I think once he's got over the disappointment of the loss,
:42:29. > :42:34.will look back favourably at his visit to Wimbledon in 2017. Marin
:42:35. > :42:38.Cilic stops to sign all the tennis balls and programmes that are
:42:39. > :42:52.offered to him on his way out of the court. What a year it's been for
:42:53. > :43:00.Gilles Muller. Two tournament wins, Wimbledon quarter-finalist. They've
:43:01. > :43:07.had excellent value for theirkm number 1 Court tickets together with
:43:08. > :43:11.Novak Djokovic still to come against Tomas Berdych. Excellent day of
:43:12. > :43:18.tennis out here. 3 hours and 30 minutes. It was a really enjoyable
:43:19. > :43:27.match on quarter-finals day. It has been won by
:43:28. > :43:39.He's talking now. You are through to the semi-final for the first time,
:43:40. > :43:43.what does it mean? It means a lot. Amazing achievement. Three times
:43:44. > :43:48.getting stuck and this is just amazing achievement of course. Today
:43:49. > :43:53.was a really hard-fought battle. Gilles Muller played great tennis,
:43:54. > :43:56.serving unbelievable today. I had to work hard until the end of the third
:43:57. > :44:00.set to get a first break. I think it was just a couple of points deciding
:44:01. > :44:04.the match. Really glad that I pulled it. You let out a roar and a scream
:44:05. > :44:08.at the end of the match. Looked up to your team at the box. What were
:44:09. > :44:14.you feeling at the moment? I was obviously focused really mentally to
:44:15. > :44:18.get it over with. I mean, especially when thes matches are long you have
:44:19. > :44:22.to keep your focus. It was a relief to finally do it. You lost the first
:44:23. > :44:25.set, that was the first set you dropped at the tournament so far.
:44:26. > :44:31.How did you gather yourself up for a fightback? Well, I kept my coolness.
:44:32. > :44:37.Oil obviously played well until today and I knew that I'm going to
:44:38. > :44:41.get in a good rit am. In the first set I wasn't serving as good as in
:44:42. > :44:44.those first couple of matches. Gilles Muller returned well at the
:44:45. > :44:49.beginning of the match. I tried to gather my thoughts and continue to
:44:50. > :44:52.play good tennis. Were you aware of what was happening on Centre Court,
:44:53. > :44:56.did you see the scoreboard to know what was happening in the Sam
:44:57. > :45:01.Querrey v Andy Murray match? I saw at the end of the match that Sam
:45:02. > :45:06.won, 6-1 in the fifth. Amazing achievement also for him. Definitely
:45:07. > :45:11.great for both of us to reach the semis. You two of course played the
:45:12. > :45:15.second longest match in men's history at Wimbledon, was it five
:45:16. > :45:21.years ago, what can we expect in the semi-final? Hopefully not the
:45:22. > :45:25.longest one EVER! Definitely Sam has amazing serve and plays really well,
:45:26. > :45:30.especially this season. He had a lot of success and it will be a hard
:45:31. > :45:34.one, tough one. I will get ready and back into my rhythm and try and play
:45:35. > :45:38.good tennis. Good luck in that match. Well done today. Thank you.
:45:39. > :45:43.SUE BARKER: I can tell you what we can expect a lot of aces and tie
:45:44. > :45:47.breaks as Cilic takes on Querrey. He served 33 aces today, Marin Cilic.
:45:48. > :45:51.I'm sure when he saw that scoreboard go over he felt this was a huge
:45:52. > :45:55.opportunity. Look at that reaction when he won. The last four years at
:45:56. > :46:02.Wimbledon he has lost in the last eight. He is through to his first
:46:03. > :46:05.Wimbledon semi-final. In the centre of your picture he has been working
:46:06. > :46:08.with imhad on the grass-court season telling him to be more aggressive,
:46:09. > :46:13.go forward, he can win on this surface. He proved it there today.
:46:14. > :46:19.He is through to the semi-final. Through to face Sam Querrey. That
:46:20. > :46:24.will be on Friday. Talking of that match. We can show you what
:46:25. > :46:30.happened. Here is Sam Querrey, match point, it was 6-1 in the fifth and
:46:31. > :46:33.final set. That wasn't the story. Andy Murray hobbles up towards the
:46:34. > :46:39.net. It went wrong for Murray in the third set. He couldn't move. He
:46:40. > :46:43.couldn't push off. Serving serves about 80mph, 90mph. But don't take
:46:44. > :46:47.anything away from Sam Querrey because he stayed focused. He played
:46:48. > :46:52.a good all court game. He hit the big serves down when it mattered. He
:46:53. > :46:57.has won and through to his first Wimbledon semi-final. Well done to
:46:58. > :47:02.Sam Querrey. His first Grand Slam semi-final. A huge achievement for
:47:03. > :47:08.him as well. After the match, he spoke to Lee about it. Slayer of
:47:09. > :47:12.Wimbledon champions, last year it was Novak Djokovic, this time Andy
:47:13. > :47:16.Murray. What an incredible performance, congratulations? Thank
:47:17. > :47:20.you. I'm in shock myself. It the last point I was happy to hit the
:47:21. > :47:24.serve. I'm thrilled right now. Andy took the first set in 28 minutes. He
:47:25. > :47:28.looked like he was in discomfort after that, you never looked out of
:47:29. > :47:31.it. You played incredibly well. What ultimately was the difference out
:47:32. > :47:36.there today? You know, I didn't start my best, I kept with it. Kept
:47:37. > :47:41.swinging away and found a groove in the fourth and fifth set. Everything
:47:42. > :47:46.fell my way. You are the first American through to the semi-finals
:47:47. > :47:50.of any Grand Slam since Roddick in 2009, how special does it feel that
:47:51. > :47:56.you are the man to have done that? It feels great. It's a dream come
:47:57. > :47:59.true. To be in the semi-finals and be at Wimbledon makes it even more
:48:00. > :48:07.special. Important to enjoy the moment but not dwell on it too much,
:48:08. > :48:13.in less than 24-hours you will be in your first Grand Slam semi-final.
:48:14. > :48:18.Cilic and Muller are still fighting it out. What has been your biggest
:48:19. > :48:24.moment? I will enjoy this longer and do the best I can to get ready for
:48:25. > :48:39.the semis. Congratulations. SUE BARKER: Querrey into the
:48:40. > :48:46.semi-finals on Court No1. , there will be Djokovic and Berdych. On
:48:47. > :48:50.Centre Court, Federer leads 4 of-3. That is on BBC One. That match is
:48:51. > :48:55.over on BBC One. Federer going well on Centre Court. Of course the big
:48:56. > :48:59.story here at Wimbledon, Andy Murray is out. I talked about the hip
:49:00. > :49:07.going. He was limping through the last three matches lost. The last
:49:08. > :49:13.sets in less than hour. He went to his press conference. He spoke to
:49:14. > :49:17.Claire. I'm sorry about that. I know you will want to pay due credit to
:49:18. > :49:26.Sam Querrey and how he played out there? Yeah. I think, you know, it
:49:27. > :49:28.was a tight match. The first few sets, you know, I had some
:49:29. > :49:33.opportunities in the second set up at break. You know, Sam started to
:49:34. > :49:39.play better as the match went on. He served, he served big. You know, he
:49:40. > :49:43.was a lot more aggressive, you know, especially on the return games. I
:49:44. > :49:47.think because he was serving better and getting more free points on
:49:48. > :49:55.serve he was able to loosen up and go for shots a little bit more. And,
:49:56. > :49:58.yeah, he dictated pretty much most of the match from the end of the
:49:59. > :50:03.second set. So on the one side he is starting to play better and move
:50:04. > :50:06.better on the other side you are starting to move with in theable
:50:07. > :50:14.restriction. When did you first start to feel pain and lack of power
:50:15. > :50:18.on your serve? I mean, look, I spoke about it before the tournament, my
:50:19. > :50:23.hip has been sore most of the event. It was just, yeah, it was just it
:50:24. > :50:27.was a little bit too sore today. At the end I was obviously struggling a
:50:28. > :50:32.bit on serve. When you are playing a guy who serves huge himself and then
:50:33. > :50:36.you are not getting many free points on your own serve, it's very
:50:37. > :50:40.difficult - you're not dictating many of the rallies and then having
:50:41. > :50:46.to do more and more moving. That was tough at the end. If it hadn't of
:50:47. > :50:50.been Wimbledon, a normal tournament, would you have skipped it? I think
:50:51. > :50:54.if it was any slam I would have... I gave myself a great chance to get to
:50:55. > :50:57.the semis, I had an opportunity to, you know, win the match in
:50:58. > :51:02.straight-sets today. I was up a set and break. Unfortunately didn't get
:51:03. > :51:06.that. But, yeah, look I was obviously in good enough shape to
:51:07. > :51:11.give myself a chance to go very deep in the tournament and, you know,
:51:12. > :51:16.almost managed to get through to today. Any slam I would have, you
:51:17. > :51:20.know, I would have taken that compared with, you know, how I was
:51:21. > :51:24.feeling a few weeks ago before the tournament started. I would have
:51:25. > :51:29.been out there for a slam, for sure. What is the plan now, in terms of
:51:30. > :51:39.treatment and giving yourself time to get back to top shape? I sit down
:51:40. > :51:43.with my team tomorrow and see, you know, obviously the US Open is six,
:51:44. > :51:50.seven weeks away. So there's time there. So I'll sit down with my team
:51:51. > :51:56.and come up with the best plan of action, you know whether that's
:51:57. > :52:02.taking a bit of a rest, you know, or not we will have to wait and see. We
:52:03. > :52:05.will do that tomorrow. It was a brave defence, I'm sorry it's over.
:52:06. > :52:10.Thank you. SUE BARKER: Yes it didn't work out,
:52:11. > :52:14.did, it the hip injury we talked about it the first week. It got a
:52:15. > :52:18.lot worse today. He has a lot of time to recover now. I think it will
:52:19. > :52:22.be quite some time before we see him back on a tennis court. They are
:52:23. > :52:27.tricky injuries to get right. That is the big story here at
:52:28. > :52:33.Wimbledon. The play goes on. On the outside courts. This third round
:52:34. > :52:41.match in the Mixed Doubles on Court 2. Peers and Lisicki unseeded
:52:42. > :52:45.against Demoliner and Martinez Sanchez. That will is our feature
:52:46. > :53:07.match on the Red Button. What a shot that was. A couple of
:53:08. > :53:12.results and news that Kuznetsova and Mladenovic have gone out. An upset
:53:13. > :53:44.out on Court 12. No problems for the number two seed. That is what
:53:45. > :53:51.happened on the outside courts. British hopes rest on Jo Konta on
:53:52. > :53:56.court tomorrow to face Venus Williams. Let's look back to
:53:57. > :54:05.yesterday and the epic match she won on Centre Court. It's a very special
:54:06. > :54:09.day for Johanna Konta. Is it's extra special for British tennis fans.
:54:10. > :54:16.They have waited 3 p years to be able to say that one of their own is
:54:17. > :54:21.in the quarter-finals. Whenever you engage in one of these Titanic
:54:22. > :54:27.tussles you always seem to have the belief. Wow! That's her trademark.
:54:28. > :54:39.My trust in my own ability has got to be there. With situations and
:54:40. > :54:44.moments like this it's more from experience than what I believe in
:54:45. > :54:50.what I can a and cannot do. I have believed in my ability but I had to
:54:51. > :54:56.have experience and time. Konta has to come from behind to win. I go
:54:57. > :54:59.into every tournament, including the championships here in Wimbledon, to
:55:00. > :55:06.be involved in the event until the very end. But I'm fully aware that
:55:07. > :55:10.every single match I get to play will be a testing one and will
:55:11. > :55:18.challenge me. Most standing. Look at that. Somehow Johanna Konta has
:55:19. > :55:22.forced a final set. I don't take anything for granted. I demand of
:55:23. > :55:26.myself my best effort and I demand of myself my full commitment to what
:55:27. > :55:27.I do and then to make sure I prepare well. I do the best that I can out
:55:28. > :55:42.there. # I rise up
:55:43. > :55:49.# I rise unafraid # I rise up
:55:50. > :55:54.# And I would do it 1,000 times again... . #
:55:55. > :55:59.British tennis history is made. Winning that quarter-final match
:56:00. > :56:04.means that you will be in the Top 5 of the women's rankings when they
:56:05. > :56:10.are out next week. . I didn't know about that! OK. Thank you.
:56:11. > :56:15.Congratulations. Thank you. When you add up these achievements do you pat
:56:16. > :56:23.yourself on the back and go - well done? I don't... It's difficult
:56:24. > :56:28.because, I guess, in both in the position we are in tennis things
:56:29. > :56:33.move quickly. Before you know it the championships will be over and it's
:56:34. > :56:39.the next event next week. Because thing are so fast moving it's almost
:56:40. > :56:43.an art to reflect well and to acknowledge the good things that you
:56:44. > :56:47.do. Actually it's something I work on to make sure I acknowledge the
:56:48. > :56:56.good things I'm doing. I'll let you know after Wimbledon how my pat on
:56:57. > :57:05.the back went, OK. SUE BARKER: She remained very
:57:06. > :57:10.focused. Came tricky matches. She will be up against Venus Williams
:57:11. > :57:14.and first on court is Garbine Muguruza, finalist here two years
:57:15. > :57:17.ago against Magdalena Rybarikova. So many injuries out from the Tour
:57:18. > :57:22.until February this year. She came back and through to her first Grand
:57:23. > :57:28.Slam semi-final. Johanna Konta, what a story it is. She has improved and
:57:29. > :57:35.improved with every year that went by. She hired a sports
:57:36. > :57:40.psychologists. A lot of credit goes to her coach, who she has been with
:57:41. > :57:46.for about a year now. He has certainly a lot of pedigrees.
:57:47. > :57:57.Coached some of the best of the past. Let's's hear from Jo coach. He
:57:58. > :58:01.has been talking to Jonathan. -- Jo's.
:58:02. > :58:11.It's over. British tennis history is made. It's been 39 years since a
:58:12. > :58:16.British woman can say, I'm a Wimbledon semi-finalist. What a
:58:17. > :58:20.moment, a Wimbledon semi-final against a five-time champion for
:58:21. > :58:25.your player. How exciting is it? It's very exciting moment in my
:58:26. > :58:30.coaching career as well. Yeah. This is where we want to be. This is what
:58:31. > :58:35.we're training for. Yeah, I believe it's going to be a fantastic match.
:58:36. > :58:40.Let us look ahead. Venus Williams, 20 years ago she first played the
:58:41. > :58:44.main draw at Wimbledon. One of the great stories of the sport, isn't
:58:45. > :58:51.it, here she is in another semi-final? Yeah. Fantastic to play
:58:52. > :58:55.against Venus now. Venus has a successful year this year. Where she
:58:56. > :59:03.is playing she has had very good results. This will be a very big
:59:04. > :59:09.test for Johanna. Semi-final Wimbledon, playing Venus Williams,
:59:10. > :59:13.can't get much better. We know about Venus' strengths, they are obvious.
:59:14. > :59:18.What about the weakness? What is the area to target? I don't think we can
:59:19. > :59:24.speak about a weakness, a player like Venus doesn't have a weakness.
:59:25. > :59:28.It's a few patterns. On big points few things we can expect. For
:59:29. > :59:33.Johanna important to focus on her own strength. When you got the call
:59:34. > :59:37.and the opportunity to coach Johanna Konta, did you believe then that
:59:38. > :59:43.success at Wimbledon was possible? Yeah. Absolutely. I saw a great
:59:44. > :59:49.athlete, that's for sure. I saw someone who was very professional
:59:50. > :59:54.and very dedicated. I saw someone with a big presence on court, like
:59:55. > :59:58.not afraid to fail or not afraid to lose. Some people have suggested
:59:59. > :00:03.perhaps she could embrace the crowd a little bit more because it is such
:00:04. > :00:07.an advantage having 15,000 people right behind you. Is that, for you,
:00:08. > :00:14.an issue or would you rather her just carry on what she is doing?
:00:15. > :00:18.It's notten issue, it's just - one thing is for sure she is enjoying
:00:19. > :00:22.the support and feels energy from the crowd, that is for sure. She
:00:23. > :00:28.probably is not expressing it as much as maybe people would like her
:00:29. > :00:33.to do, but it's... She's still young in her career and it's something
:00:34. > :00:39.that needs a bit of time for her, I think. But, yeah, she's very
:00:40. > :00:43.comfortable in the zone where she is right now. At this moment I would
:00:44. > :00:47.like her to stay in that zone. Is it possible that she'll be in the
:00:48. > :00:57.Wimbledon final on Saturday? For sure it's possible. 50/50 against
:00:58. > :01:01.Venus. She has to play a good match. Unfortunately, we are also depending
:01:02. > :01:06.on the level of Venus. Yeah, I give her a chance. She has to believe in
:01:07. > :01:10.herself. I do believe in her and her team believes in her. So... What
:01:11. > :01:12.will your final message be to her when she makes the walk from the
:01:13. > :01:24.locker room to the court? Enjoy it. SUE BARKER: We will certainly enjoy
:01:25. > :01:27.it. It promises to be a fantastic match, Venus against Jo Konta. She
:01:28. > :01:32.has done well against the big servers here at Wimbledon already.
:01:33. > :01:37.Huge occasion for Jo Konta tomorrow, second on centre. On Centre Court at
:01:38. > :01:41.the moment, somebody who knows all about the big occasion. Playing
:01:42. > :01:46.there is Roger Federer. Just a few moments ago, he is Roger with two
:01:47. > :01:52.set points against last year's Ron-Robert Zieler Milos Raonic. What
:01:53. > :01:58.a way to finish it off! -- runner up, Milos Raonic. That was just a
:01:59. > :02:04.short time ago. As we go back live now, Roger has just broken Raonic in
:02:05. > :02:09.the first game of the second set. Very much going his way on Centre
:02:10. > :02:17.Court. That match is now live over on BBC One. But here we're going to
:02:18. > :02:23.head over to quote number two for another of the men's quarterfinals,
:02:24. > :02:26.sorry, Court Number One we're heading to four Tomas Berdych
:02:27. > :02:32.against Novak Djokovic. The head-to-head is very much in favour
:02:33. > :02:36.of Novak Djokovic. 25-2, and he has won the last 12. But there was a
:02:37. > :02:40.worry about his shoulder. He had to be treated on court three times
:02:41. > :02:44.yesterday against Mannarino. We have to keep an eye out and see if that
:02:45. > :02:50.injury is OK. A three-time winner here. He is on court. Let's join our
:02:51. > :02:55.commentators on Court Number One, John Lloyd and John Inverdale. JOHN
:02:56. > :02:59.INVERDALE: With all due respect to all concerned I think it is fair to
:03:00. > :03:04.say that not too many TV executives and advertisers the world over are
:03:05. > :03:13.rubbing their hands at the prospect of a last four of Querrey, Cilic,
:03:14. > :03:17.and Berdych. There was a lot of pressure, whether they are aware of
:03:18. > :03:24.it or not. We probably know what we're going to get from Berdych.
:03:25. > :03:29.Solid, big serving, systematic, control. From Djokovic, you know,
:03:30. > :03:34.are we going to get the grumpy I went to arch from yesterday calling
:03:35. > :03:41.for decking to put on Court Number One? How is his fitness, mind, body
:03:42. > :03:49.and game? I suppose in many ways this match and its outcome hinges on
:03:50. > :03:53.him, it's in his hands. We will see how mentally he is. If he's mentally
:03:54. > :04:33.strong, he wins this match, no doubt about it.
:04:34. > :04:43.APPLAUSE At what point in this match can you
:04:44. > :05:46.inevitably tell the foetus, like Astori? Oh, that is a great story.
:05:47. > :05:52.Well, some good hitting from the Cech.
:05:53. > :06:02.He's level in the list of Czech players and the number of semifinal
:06:03. > :06:11.Grand Slams they've got to. He is level on six with Janko Lish. They
:06:12. > :06:14.are both a long way behind Ivan Lendl, but he would overtake Janko
:06:15. > :06:20.Lish if you were to get through to the rich today. A bit of running
:06:21. > :06:50.repairs to the racket. -- through Djokovic today.
:06:51. > :06:57.That was a very tame second serve. I was going to say, 80 mph on the
:06:58. > :07:00.second serve. That's the thing we have to keep our eyes open on the
:07:01. > :07:06.server just to see if that is affected on the speed on his first
:07:07. > :07:09.and second. We have seen how the physical state-of-the-art weeks on
:07:10. > :07:13.Centre Court, as in Andy Murray, had a major effect of the outcome on
:07:14. > :07:25.that match -- physical state of the athletes. So, Berdych goes long.
:07:26. > :07:31.We'll get it out the way now... It is one of the great sporting greats
:07:32. > :07:37.of all time, it is a cliche, -- sporting quotes. In 1980, after
:07:38. > :07:40.having lost 16 consecutive times to Jimmy Connors, Vitas Gerulaitis beat
:07:41. > :07:46.him at Madison Square Garden. And he walked into the press conference
:07:47. > :07:51.straight after the match clutching a huge bottle of champagne, plonked it
:07:52. > :07:56.down on the desk, and said, nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a
:07:57. > :08:01.row! And Berdych is in a similar situation here. Is he going to say,
:08:02. > :08:03.nobody beats by 13 times in a row?! That is where he sits at the moment
:08:04. > :08:43.with Novak Djokovic. CROWD GASPS
:08:44. > :08:50.APPLAUSE He's still looking at his racket.
:08:51. > :08:56.I thought in that first game, it was tape which they sometimes put on to
:08:57. > :08:59.keep the weight in certain areas, but he's got about another 20
:09:00. > :09:27.rackets in the bag, I don't know why he's worried so much.
:09:28. > :09:37.The trouble is, it's at times like this we all become sort of amateur
:09:38. > :09:40.doctors, don't we, and muscle surgeons and things, we're looking
:09:41. > :09:47.at Djokovic and saying, how much pain is eat... In? How is his
:09:48. > :10:50.movement restricted? -- how much pain is he in.
:10:51. > :11:06.That was a gigantic forehand. Berdych things, I've hit a good shot
:11:07. > :11:33.there. Nope! How much bearing does the win- loss
:11:34. > :11:41.record between these two have on this match, do you think? Huge. On
:11:42. > :11:53.both sides of the net? Both sides of the net.
:11:54. > :12:02.Yes, for Novak it is about styles, the tellers match. Novak knows that
:12:03. > :12:07.his style, and Berdych's style just fits perfectly for his game. On the
:12:08. > :12:11.other side of the match, Berdych is thinking, my game doesn't match up
:12:12. > :12:29.to well. Well, is trying not to think that.
:12:30. > :12:45.And if you haven't done your research on this, let me tell you
:12:46. > :12:55.that if we look at it from Berdych's point of view, played 27, won two,
:12:56. > :13:20.lost 25, relegated. Definitely relegated.
:13:21. > :13:30.But he's playing well! He's playing well. He beat Dominic Thiem in five
:13:31. > :13:34.sets, no mean feat. He has come through a lot of matches with tight
:13:35. > :13:40.sets as well. He is very, very matched height and in match form. If
:13:41. > :13:43.Djokovic is remotely vulnerable today, and Berdych is an especially
:13:44. > :13:49.good form to take advantage of that. Agreed.
:13:50. > :13:56.I do think, though, when you talk about five set matches, you know,
:13:57. > :14:00.the starting matches, the first set, it is important. But best-of-3 sets
:14:01. > :14:05.is much more important. I think in this, when you have a record like
:14:06. > :14:07.this, the first set for Berdych is crucial. If he loses the first set,
:14:08. > :14:32.mentally that is huge. Don't forget, he has got to a final
:14:33. > :14:33.here, albeit seven years ago. Djokovic, three times the winner of
:14:34. > :14:56.this title, 2011, 2014 and 2015. We did a Djokovic match on Centre
:14:57. > :15:00.Court yesterday when he was having a hullabaloo with the condition of the
:15:01. > :15:06.court. This court looks in better nick, doesn't it? Koumba Centre
:15:07. > :15:12.Court, I think it does, too. -- Van Noy the Centre Court. I don't know
:15:13. > :15:40.why that would be, but it does look better.
:15:41. > :15:44.Oh! Well, the Djokovic forehand seems to be working very nicely,
:15:45. > :16:01.thank you. First thoughts? Well, I was just
:16:02. > :16:06.looking actually to see this that's an Djokovic's first serve there. To
:16:07. > :16:10.me, it looks at the moment like he's a little bit careful on the first
:16:11. > :16:15.serve. He doesn't seem to be exploding on it as much. He's not
:16:16. > :16:19.got a huge serve, but I was just looking at that committee seems to
:16:20. > :16:26.be moving fine on the ground strokes seem pretty good. -- amber ground
:16:27. > :16:30.strokes. But if he is having any problems in his shoulder, one of the
:16:31. > :16:35.big things is going to be his service power. It's like rubber, the
:16:36. > :16:39.way he contorts his body sometimes to hit winners. If they had had
:16:40. > :16:48.gluten-free indoor day, John, you would have been like that! His
:16:49. > :16:52.fastest serve at the moment is 114, only two service game, that's quite
:16:53. > :16:55.a way below his fastest serve during the tournament. Whether he's just
:16:56. > :16:59.warming it up, not going for it fully at the moment, we'll see. That
:17:00. > :17:05.would be one interesting thing just to look for.
:17:06. > :17:13.Two of the 30 somethings in the last eight of the men's draw. Five out of
:17:14. > :17:18.the eight. They are 30 and over. An indication of how the sport has
:17:19. > :17:48.changed in recent years. We saw it so much with Andy Murray
:17:49. > :17:54.early on. If you are favouring an injury, how is it to disguise that
:17:55. > :18:11.from your opponent? Well, certainly not easy if it's the serve.
:18:12. > :18:21.Berdych will feel, he'll feel the power coming on the serve. And if
:18:22. > :18:29.Djokovic continues to be around that pace and doesn't go up, Berdych will
:18:30. > :18:34.feel like you is going to get a lot more hits off the serve, there's not
:18:35. > :18:35.going to be a any free points against him, which will be an
:18:36. > :19:40.encouragement. That's baked! Well played. Unless
:19:41. > :19:45.something explosive happens at the start of the match... -- that's big.
:19:46. > :19:49.There's always a bit of a lull at the start of the second game on a
:19:50. > :19:53.big day like today, especially following the five set quarterfinals
:19:54. > :19:57.we just had. We're kind of in that situation at the moment, it's a
:19:58. > :19:58.little bit more than sparring, but nobody's really going for the big
:19:59. > :21:05.punches here. What do you make about Berdych's
:21:06. > :21:12.movement on grass? I mean, that's the weakest part of his game, isn't
:21:13. > :21:14.it? His defending is not the best. But for a big man, he moves pretty
:21:15. > :21:26.well. APPLAUSE
:21:27. > :21:56.Well, he's been made to move there. The first ace of the match. Perhaps
:21:57. > :22:15.surprisingly, from Djokovic's racket.
:22:16. > :22:34.Djokovic is a great athlete, isn't he? He's like a big cat, like a
:22:35. > :22:38.Jaguar or eight Shuter or something like that. Whereas Berdych is kind
:22:39. > :22:43.of an antelope, really. But if you come back to the record between the
:22:44. > :22:46.two of them, how much can he, sitting there, not that he would be
:22:47. > :22:49.thinking about it at the moment, but in the build-up to today, how much
:22:50. > :22:54.will he have told himself, seven years ago I beat this guy in
:22:55. > :22:58.straight sets here at Wimbledon, and that year I got through to the
:22:59. > :23:03.final? Positive thinking. Endlessly, over and over and over again. Well,
:23:04. > :23:06.I think that's his coaching team, that's exactly what they will be
:23:07. > :23:11.reinforcing. That match, they'll throw away all the other stuff.
:23:12. > :23:15.Obviously they'll say, what you need to do, and Berdych knows that. But
:23:16. > :23:19.they'll just keep pumping that into him the whole time, you have beaten
:23:20. > :23:23.him and you've beaten him on grass and you can do it against point but
:23:24. > :23:28.the psychological aspect is so big. That's one of the reasons why I
:23:29. > :23:32.think it does help to have a great player in your camp on these type of
:23:33. > :23:36.occasions, like Agassi with Djokovic. You know, a player who's
:23:37. > :23:41.been there and done it, they can tell you the things the night before
:23:42. > :23:46.a match, it just little details that can help you psychologically. In
:23:47. > :23:48.Djokovic's case here, under no circumstances, despite that record,
:23:49. > :24:06.be complacent. No, not at all. APPLAUSE
:24:07. > :24:09.Well played by Berdych. It's a delicate balance for Berdych. You
:24:10. > :24:14.don't want to go to for outside of your sort of comfort zone, your
:24:15. > :24:19.norm, so to speak. Having said that, with the record he's got, there's a
:24:20. > :24:20.tendency to think, I have too. And then you make more errors. So it's a
:24:21. > :24:48.really fine balance. What word would you use to describe
:24:49. > :24:52.Berdych's game? Structured, perhaps. You came up with the first word, I
:24:53. > :24:57.love the word you said, but I can't remember what you said now. Very
:24:58. > :25:02.similar to structured. It's so great that I've forgotten it! It was a
:25:03. > :25:09.great line. I thought, yes, I'll think of it in a second. I don't
:25:10. > :25:11.want to say mechanical stop. Regimented? I think that's good.
:25:12. > :25:57.Systematic. Well, that's good hitting from both
:25:58. > :26:01.sides until Djokovic went long. Lots of rallies like that in the match
:26:02. > :26:06.against Mannarino yesterday. And invariably yesterday Djokovic came
:26:07. > :26:12.out on top. Different type of shot coming at him, though, with Berdych.
:26:13. > :26:13.More top-spin, bounces up higher. Mannarino is very sort of flat
:26:14. > :26:27.through the court. He's playing well, very well.
:26:28. > :26:31.There's also a thing called tie-breakers as well. Worst case, if
:26:32. > :26:36.he can hang in to get to that, anything can happen in a
:26:37. > :26:58.tie-breaker. I just feel this first set is so crucial.
:26:59. > :27:05.I don't think he's hitting his serve very hard at the moment, though.
:27:06. > :27:10.He's not exploding on the serve. I don't think he's hit one above is it
:27:11. > :27:21.114 at the moment? 105, that second serve. That's 113.
:27:22. > :27:35.He would have been warmed up by now, so...
:27:36. > :27:43.Good serve. If this continues with this first serve, you will see his
:27:44. > :27:48.service percentage go up, because he's going to hit its lower, if it
:27:49. > :27:51.looks like it, but he'll make sure he gets almost every first serve in,
:27:52. > :27:58.it will be difficult for Berdych to get ahead in the rally.
:27:59. > :28:14.It might be a bit too late for this game, but a warning shot across
:28:15. > :28:44.Djokovic... 86% first serves in so far.
:28:45. > :28:54.APPLAUSE Well, that second serve was only 84
:28:55. > :28:59.mph. Djokovic does not look happy. I think it's stating the obvious
:29:00. > :29:02.there. His body language, his facial expressions... If we look at the
:29:03. > :29:07.service action, are we able to discern anything from it in terms of
:29:08. > :29:11.being different to what he would normally be doing? Not really, no.
:29:12. > :29:20.He is not suddenly going to develop a hit with pain. He'll just know how
:29:21. > :29:24.far or how fast to snap that wrist, how much to really put the strain on
:29:25. > :29:29.it. The motion is so good he can hit it at any pace he wants. If that
:29:30. > :29:32.soreness is stopping him from exploding on the first serve, which
:29:33. > :29:37.it looks like it is at the moment, it becomes a different game now. It
:29:38. > :29:40.becomes a gain of placement, getting every first serve in. He is doing
:29:41. > :29:45.that very well serve. Berdych will cotton onto that got to take more
:29:46. > :29:51.chances on the return of serve than he would normally. -- start to take
:29:52. > :29:56.more chances. We talk about the racket speed, that is what enables
:29:57. > :29:59.people to whack it down at 130 mph like Sam Berry was doing this
:30:00. > :30:04.afternoon. If you don't want to impinge on your shoulder muscles,
:30:05. > :30:08.that's where he's going to go much more top-spin serves and kick us out
:30:09. > :30:12.wide and things like that. That takes the whole arm absorbing the
:30:13. > :30:17.pressure as opposed to that sort of snap. Absolutely. He will be nice
:30:18. > :30:21.and smooth but he just went snap it is hard. Everything will be in
:30:22. > :30:23.control and he won't be taking too many chances. So far he hasn't hit
:30:24. > :30:36.any big serves at all. When you are in a grand slam and you
:30:37. > :30:55.have a day off, you have 24-hours arrest, more treatment. -- rest.
:30:56. > :31:06.Great shot. That is a superb forehand. That is strength. The ball
:31:07. > :31:07.looked like it was behind him. A fantastic return of serve. Just
:31:08. > :31:31.brilliant. He is striking the ball so well at
:31:32. > :31:38.the moment. He hits the ball pretty fat as well. A bit of an arc on the
:31:39. > :31:40.forehand. But it goes through the court so quickly when he gets a hold
:31:41. > :32:26.of it properly. You might know the answer to this.
:32:27. > :32:32.We had black underpants gate out the court today with one of the young
:32:33. > :32:33.guys, who sent off to change his underwear because it was against the
:32:34. > :32:58.clothing regulations. The first double fault of the match.
:32:59. > :33:05.I am just wondering if the yellow braiding on Burdick's Sheard
:33:06. > :33:17.constitutes anything? -- Berdych. Probably. The underwear rule is so
:33:18. > :33:26.ridiculous. You can't even wear coloured souls on your shoes.
:33:27. > :33:33.Really? Who cares? All about the brand. And this match is
:33:34. > :34:05.interestingly poised at the moment. He just soaks up pressure so well,
:34:06. > :34:10.Djokovic. He is a master at it. The ball flooding at him. You think he
:34:11. > :34:17.is in trouble. But he gets back there and put the ball back in
:34:18. > :34:24.awkward positions all the time. It is so difficult to put a ball away
:34:25. > :34:31.against him. This time last year, he arrived here as Master of the tennis
:34:32. > :34:39.world. Four grand Slam 's. Now he has none. What do specifically
:34:40. > :34:45.attributes that to? -- what do you specifically attribute that to? I
:34:46. > :34:50.think that was all in the mind. I think after winning the French and
:34:51. > :34:56.completing his grand slam, he was exhausted. In retrospect, he should
:34:57. > :35:03.have done what Federer did, take six months off. Literally take six
:35:04. > :35:11.months off and reboot. Of course, his sponsors won't allow that. Is
:35:12. > :35:13.that something you would advise Andy to-do? I think he may have no choice
:35:14. > :35:33.anyway. Big blow from Berdych. Open to court
:35:34. > :35:42.up. -- he opened. I'm not sure the court was to blame. I'm not sure
:35:43. > :35:46.either. Of course you blame something else. You look at the sun,
:35:47. > :35:48.it is windy. Djokovic had a conversation with the crowd. I'm not
:35:49. > :36:30.sure about what. Djokovic driving with the handbrake
:36:31. > :36:39.on. But he is still leading. And Berdych will have two serve to stay
:36:40. > :36:43.in this absolutely key first set. Djokovic is managing his game well.
:36:44. > :36:50.He is definitely not serving near as big as he normally does. The
:36:51. > :36:54.contortions he was doing yesterday, the trainer was getting him into a
:36:55. > :37:01.pretzel positions. It was very worrying at one stage. Made of
:37:02. > :37:07.rubber, so it was no problem. I think his biggest serve so far today
:37:08. > :37:14.is 114. Because he has, come into the match with this shoulder injury,
:37:15. > :37:19.is he allowed to have a medical time-out at any stage of the match,
:37:20. > :37:24.to have manipulative work on it? I don't think he is alleged. I'm not
:37:25. > :37:27.up-to-date. They seem to change the rules every three months. It seems
:37:28. > :37:40.strange that you wouldn't be able to. At all these matters we keep
:37:41. > :37:43.showing pictures of the boxes, the coaches, the girlfriends and the
:37:44. > :37:56.families. In many ways it is easier being on the court. Up there you are
:37:57. > :38:06.utterly helpless. The coaches can signal a bit. That is a very, very
:38:07. > :38:13.calm Prensa rally from Berdych. That's Makombe Prensa. Even here,
:38:14. > :38:19.Djokovic had no right to get that back. That is why he is so annoying
:38:20. > :38:22.to play against. That was an easy ball. But its tires you out
:38:23. > :38:35.eventually when they keep coming back at you. If you hit that hard,
:38:36. > :38:40.it doesn't matter. I think he is deciding that he anything inside the
:38:41. > :38:43.baseline he will try to do some severe damage to Djokovic, not
:38:44. > :38:55.allowing the chance to do anything with the ball. Does Berdych want
:38:56. > :38:58.short, sharp rallies? He is not the sort of player who takes silly
:38:59. > :39:11.chances. But I think he will try to impose himself more than normal. He
:39:12. > :39:20.will take ours like that all day from the Djokovic rally. I'm waiting
:39:21. > :39:24.for Djokovic to have the first explosion like he did yesterday.
:39:25. > :39:31.When he got verbal. He hasn't looked that way today. He has looked a
:39:32. > :39:53.little bit flat. Yeah, that shook him from his lethargy.
:39:54. > :40:10.Straightforward enough for Berdych. Five apiece. Novak right in front of
:40:11. > :40:16.our commentary position. Shaking his head in that sort of, I'm not quite
:40:17. > :40:20.sure what is going on here, kind of way. I don't know how I can impose
:40:21. > :40:37.myself on this match any more than I can do at the moment. I know the
:40:38. > :41:27.word. Quizzical. I'm going to write that one down, two! -- too.
:41:28. > :41:34.There was the reaction after he missed the forehand, where he
:41:35. > :41:39.straightened his arm. He was in a little pain. Ten unforced error is
:41:40. > :42:02.in this set from Djokovic. They have all been similar shots.
:42:03. > :42:15.Got it! He didn't do enough, did he? But still, a fabulous passing shot
:42:16. > :42:26.from Berdych. Tuck shot from Djokovic. Studied right back to him.
:42:27. > :42:56.A big point here. -- he stabbed it right back at him.
:42:57. > :43:03.We keep saying that this first set could be absolutely key in
:43:04. > :43:07.determining the outcome of this match, in which case Berdych may
:43:08. > :43:09.live to regret that error at the end of that longest rally of the match
:43:10. > :43:27.so far. And that one. So Djokovic hangs on,
:43:28. > :43:35.which sounds ridiculous to say because he is leading 6-5. But you
:43:36. > :43:41.almost feel like he is a wounded animal. There is no question his
:43:42. > :43:46.serve is struggling. Having said that, I was just thinking, Berdych
:43:47. > :43:54.might prefer him to go for first serves. It might push his first
:43:55. > :43:58.serves down. They are firm enough in the corners that Berdych cannot
:43:59. > :44:02.attack it. If he had some second serves to go out, perhaps he would
:44:03. > :44:10.have a chance to get in the rally. At the moment Djokovic is managing
:44:11. > :44:13.serve immaculately. Isn't that the virtue of being somebody who has
:44:14. > :44:18.been there and done its money times before? There would have been so
:44:19. > :44:23.many matches the former Djokovic has been injured, whether it is his
:44:24. > :44:30.shoulder, hip, arm, leg. And he has had to manage that situation. There
:44:31. > :44:38.is not one player in the draw who is 100% fit at the start or at the end.
:44:39. > :44:47.It is all about that arm. The upper reaches of the arm. For the moment
:44:48. > :45:15.it is all about Berdych. Serving to take us into a tie-break, if he can.
:45:16. > :45:20.You never know. I saw Sam Querrey miss one from that position against
:45:21. > :46:24.Andy Murray today. Djokovic rooted to the spot at the
:46:25. > :46:33.back of the court. Berdych with three points to take us into an
:46:34. > :47:22.opening set tie-break. One will do. No, it want! He just put it wide.
:47:23. > :47:48.APPLAUSE Not a bad strike with a bad arm. He
:47:49. > :48:00.bent that round. The final chance to take us to six each.
:48:01. > :48:16.Berdych doesn't give much away on court, does he?
:48:17. > :48:25.What a time for that. It is that old saying, net cord is even themselves
:48:26. > :48:41.out during the match. That is nonsense. It is when they happen.
:48:42. > :48:47.From 40-0 to deuce. That is brilliant. Brilliant. It has taken a
:48:48. > :48:58.long while. That was his first ace this set. You don't feel like he is
:48:59. > :49:05.clobbering it like not either. -- like normal. That was his 50th Acer
:49:06. > :49:31.Wimbledon this year. Three in a row from Berdych ride on
:49:32. > :49:37.the baseline. That one, ultimately, just a bit long. We're back to
:49:38. > :49:40.deuce. I know it is very early to say this after just 45 minutes, but
:49:41. > :50:00.this could be a defining moment in this match.
:50:01. > :50:14.Hired a second serve. -- what a second serve. Who do you think the
:50:15. > :50:41.crowd want to win? Novak. And a tie-break, you suspect, that
:50:42. > :50:47.Berdych just has to win. Well, you would think so. If he had lost that
:50:48. > :50:52.last game from 40-0, psychologically that would have been - I don't think
:50:53. > :51:12.he would have recovered from it. Beautifully done. Fantastic strike
:51:13. > :51:20.on the return and then lovely faint and a drop shot. So good. It has
:51:21. > :51:24.been one pace in a lot of ways from Berdych in terms of what he has been
:51:25. > :51:28.doing with his groundstrokes. There, the complete opposite. Lovely feel.
:51:29. > :51:55.Soft hands. What a start to the tie-breaker.
:51:56. > :52:02.Berdych is saying that Djokovic played the ball as it was and it was
:52:03. > :52:06.out, and that was his point. The umpire is saying it was an immediate
:52:07. > :52:17.call and it did impact on how Djokovic played the ball.
:52:18. > :52:19.What are you doing? You guys have the same line for every single call
:52:20. > :52:33.you are doing. I don't think he is right. That is
:52:34. > :52:41.seriously animated for Thomas Berdych. And it is at moments like
:52:42. > :52:46.this that that record, played 27, won two, maybe creeps through your
:52:47. > :52:48.mind. Moments like that absolutely key to the direction of this set.
:52:49. > :53:01.Unless you can do that. Was that the right call by the
:53:02. > :53:30.umpire? The right call, I thought. It is only one point against the
:53:31. > :53:32.serve at the moment. But it's Berdych with the nudge early in this
:53:33. > :54:48.tie-break. Well, Djokovic has won the last 14
:54:49. > :54:54.sets that these guys have played against each other. He has won the
:54:55. > :55:02.last 12 matches. Our both of those records about to come to an end in
:55:03. > :55:05.the next couple of minutes? And with it, a definitive change in the
:55:06. > :55:33.balance of power between these two today.
:55:34. > :55:42.Djokovic talking to the umpire. I wonder if he is asking for a doctor,
:55:43. > :55:47.or for some kind of physio at the end of the set. Yesterday we had the
:55:48. > :55:51.doctor on court giving out various pills, which we assumed that the
:55:52. > :55:55.time were for headaches. Actually, we were none the wiser. Confirmation
:55:56. > :56:01.that somebody is going to be on court shortly. And then of course we
:56:02. > :56:08.had the trainer on to manipulate the shoulder. We will see what happens.
:56:09. > :56:23.Perhaps as soon as a couple of points' time.
:56:24. > :56:50.This is a poor tie-breaker he has played here.
:56:51. > :57:19.He got it. Nobody beats Thomas Berdych 15 sets in a row. And first
:57:20. > :57:39.blood to Berdych. It is Novak in real bother?
:57:40. > :57:48.I'm not sure he will carry on much longer if this doesn't improve. If
:57:49. > :57:55.he can't serve - that last first serve was about 90 mph. He is just
:57:56. > :58:02.barely throwing it in. You can't win the tournament playing like this. No
:58:03. > :58:06.way. I wonder how much now, and it is easy to be wise after the event,
:58:07. > :58:12.you never quite know every action and every decision has a
:58:13. > :58:17.consequence, put him not playing two nights ago, an extra 24-hours on
:58:18. > :58:27.that shoulder, if he had an injury, might have put him a better position
:58:28. > :58:32.today. Etc etc. Of course. Two days in a row. The only one in the draw
:58:33. > :58:36.who has had to do it. If that injury was already there when he walked on
:58:37. > :58:40.court, which presumably it was, he had to play two days in a row. The
:58:41. > :58:46.work yesterday was done on his shoulder at the top end of the
:58:47. > :58:54.bicep. Is that a medical phrase? Anyway, this is at the bottom end.
:58:55. > :59:00.This is more elbow. Yeah. There is the proof of what you were saying.
:59:01. > :59:06.82% first service for Djokovic. He is just throwing them in. You can
:59:07. > :59:11.see he normally wins a high percentage on the first service
:59:12. > :59:18.points when he gets them in. 69% is OK but it is below normal. Berdych
:59:19. > :59:24.has been 91% on his first serve. Unforced errors is pretty good for
:59:25. > :59:30.Djokovic. The winners, 44 Berdych. This, obviously, this work that he
:59:31. > :59:34.is getting now, and I presume he will take some pain killers, if it
:59:35. > :59:49.doesn't improve, I don't see the point in going on.
:59:50. > :59:59.SUE BARKER: It is not looking good for Novak Djokovic. We will keep you
:00:00. > :00:04.up-to-date on that. This match will continue on the Red Button. We're
:00:05. > :00:12.heading over to Centre Court to see Federer against Milos Raonic. A
:00:13. > :00:17.repeat of last year's semifinal. Roger Federer has just held on a
:00:18. > :00:26.mammoth game where Raonic had many break points. Federer is leading by
:00:27. > :01:14.two sets. It is level in the third set.
:01:15. > :01:22.MARK PETCHEY: It was almost a bit flat at the end of the second set,
:01:23. > :01:52.but that's not the case, as we move towards the end of this third set.
:01:53. > :02:10.You obviously don't remember your match against Richard Krajicek,
:02:11. > :02:38.Boris? BORIS BECKER: No. Apologies, I read the wrong line.
:02:39. > :03:12.Thomas Muster. It gets better! He literally sprinted to the net
:03:13. > :03:20.trying to take the ball early, but to no avail. His box are losing
:03:21. > :04:02.their minds, slowly but surely. Oh!
:04:03. > :04:07.APPLAUSE Lightning swiped from Federer after
:04:08. > :04:13.the turn. That is something that Raonic perhaps could learn from.
:04:14. > :04:32.Taking the ball early and stepping in.
:04:33. > :04:55.But the effort from Raonic. He's really played a lot better in this
:04:56. > :05:20.third set -- gutsy effort. He hung in there well.
:05:21. > :05:28.One thing that has been noticeable is the lack of pace on his second
:05:29. > :05:32.serve. He was averaging 109 mph coming into this match on his
:05:33. > :05:38.second. Today he is 101. Last year when he played Federer he was up
:05:39. > :05:41.112. New kind of deal with the predictability going into the
:05:42. > :05:45.backhand side he is allowing himself to get dictated to off the second
:05:46. > :05:49.serve rather than being the one who is dictating to Federer with that
:05:50. > :06:21.shot -- you kind of feel that with the predictability.
:06:22. > :06:34.It seems like he was listening to you, Petch! This one was hit with
:06:35. > :06:36.much more authority. If Raonic wants to stand a chance of prolonging this
:06:37. > :07:06.match... Well, for the neutrals that was the
:07:07. > :07:10.best portion of the match so far. Plenty of intrigue in what was
:07:11. > :07:14.unfolding in front of us. Up until now, it's been fairly one-way
:07:15. > :07:17.traffic for Federer. But Raonic certainly coming to the party. Later
:07:18. > :07:25.the party, but he's made entrance, finally. TIM HENMAN: You feel there
:07:26. > :07:30.are moments when he has been able to impose himself on the game. Whereas
:07:31. > :07:33.in the first set, it was just Federer from start to finish. He was
:07:34. > :07:41.dictating, more aggressive, had Raonic on the back foot. Certainly
:07:42. > :07:47.in that game at 3-4... Raonic upped the intensity. And you've got to
:07:48. > :07:51.give a bit of credit to the Canadian. He is maybe not the most
:07:52. > :07:58.talented, his style looks a bit awkward. But effort level is
:07:59. > :08:06.absolutely 100%. He does whatever he can, what's within his powers.
:08:07. > :08:10.SUE BARKER: Well, they are just coming out to play here on centre.
:08:11. > :08:15.We are briefly going to go back to Court Number One. This was a moment
:08:16. > :08:19.ago. That was 3- 02 Berdych. Djokovic shakes his head, no, I
:08:20. > :08:23.cannot continue like this. He knows he would not be competitive in this
:08:24. > :08:29.match. He has had the train on, he hasn't been at his best. How sad to
:08:30. > :08:37.see this -- he has had the trainer on. A shoulder injury yesterday, and
:08:38. > :08:39.an elbow today. Another injury and another retirement here at
:08:40. > :08:42.Wimbledon. It is Tomas Berdych who goes through to the semifinal to
:08:43. > :08:45.face the winner of the match we are watching on Centre Court. It is
:08:46. > :09:26.another sad retirement here at Wimbledon. Back we go.
:09:27. > :09:36.APPLAUSE MARK PETCHEY: Simple and efficient
:09:37. > :09:40.hold of serve, unlike the last time, for Federer. It gives him one last
:09:41. > :09:41.chance to break the Raonic serve before he potentially will take it
:09:42. > :09:59.into a tie-break. BORIS BECKER: The shade is slowly
:10:00. > :10:03.creeping onto the court, making it more difficult for the players to
:10:04. > :10:05.see the ball quickly, especially when you are an Federer's side, the
:10:06. > :10:38.sun is very low. TIM HENMAN: I suppose the lines are
:10:39. > :10:42.there to be hit. Federer finding them Prydie consistently. Look at
:10:43. > :10:50.this, just aiding that ball away. -- finding them pretty consistently.
:10:51. > :10:57.You call it a masterclass, by the master himself.
:10:58. > :11:19.He hasn't missed many poor shots in the match. But at 0-15, Federer was
:11:20. > :11:23.like that one again. -- would like that one.
:11:24. > :11:50.APPLAUSE Raonic does the best he can.
:11:51. > :12:17.Well, for this set and the next one it may well be Raonic's best chance
:12:18. > :12:29.of claiming them on the tie-break. He is at least guaranteed that
:12:30. > :12:33.opportunity, leading 6-5 here in the third. But so often we see top
:12:34. > :12:37.players producing their best in tie breakers. He cannot be assured of
:12:38. > :12:47.getting the run of the green as well in the tie-break. He will be looking
:12:48. > :12:54.to try and get a break here. He had his best chance the last time
:12:55. > :12:57.Federer served from this end. But by owners is on the court. There is the
:12:58. > :13:10.Berdych upside of Novak Djokovic. Remember, the winner of the Federer-
:13:11. > :13:15.Raonic match is playing Tomas Berdych in the semifinal on Friday.
:13:16. > :13:20.I'm sure both players have seen that as well. An interesting moment in
:13:21. > :14:27.the match. Federer is sticking to his winning
:14:28. > :14:36.formally -- formula. Making the Canadian run.
:14:37. > :15:29.CROWD GASPS APPLAUSE
:15:30. > :15:32.Well, it's rare that he even finds the backhand on the return of
:15:33. > :15:36.Federer. But even then, the winner comes from
:15:37. > :15:48.that side from the Swiss superstar. And we are at a tie-break.
:15:49. > :15:52.UMPIRE: Both players receive one additional challenge. Ball boy, get
:15:53. > :16:26.the ball, please. Thank you. Raonic has kept his nose in front in
:16:27. > :16:51.this third set. He needs to keep his nose in front in the tie-break.
:16:52. > :16:55.Mis-hit return, misdirected forehand, though, from Federer. And
:16:56. > :17:00.it is a mini-break from the Canadian. For the first time,
:17:01. > :17:41.there's a little bit of hope. Couldn't have asked for more of
:17:42. > :17:48.himself there. He did take a risk on this forehand down the line. We
:17:49. > :17:52.talked about that, you've got to hit close to the line. If you want to
:17:53. > :18:35.win a point against Federer. And that is some forehand from
:18:36. > :18:45.Federer! Because that was well played from Raonic. Excellent that
:18:46. > :18:46.throughout the rally. -- excellent depth. Yes, you couldn't do much
:18:47. > :19:11.more. Federer was ready for it. CHEERING
:19:12. > :19:15.That is the first point that Federer has taken off the Raonic serve when
:19:16. > :19:20.he's gone after the forehand side on the Gs in the entire set. And he
:19:21. > :19:30.catches it absolutely flush --, deuce. You can't fault Raonic there.
:19:31. > :19:33.He hit his spot. Federer way outside the doubles lying. Back on serve. --
:19:34. > :19:52.the doubles line. He had to be vigilant after the
:19:53. > :19:57.forehand, Federer, couldn't quite get enough on it. It was a little
:19:58. > :20:01.lower than he would have liked, the first shot. No mistaking the winning
:20:02. > :20:11.volley. No mistake who the crowd want to win this match.
:20:12. > :20:17.It has certainly come alive in the last 15-20 minutes. The quality has
:20:18. > :20:32.improved, the atmosphere has improved.
:20:33. > :20:36.Well, it's Federer that uses the Borlee serve to great effect there.
:20:37. > :20:46.-- by Bolieve serve. Following it up with a nice backhand
:20:47. > :21:26.drop shot. Oh! Oh, my goodness! UMPIRE: Mr
:21:27. > :21:35.Raonic challenging the call. The ball is called in. The scary thing
:21:36. > :21:41.was, Raonic was covering the line. But Federer has managed to hit
:21:42. > :21:46.around the outside of this ball and bend it back onto the line.
:21:47. > :22:21.Raonic needed to stop the rot there. Five points in a row for Federer,
:22:22. > :22:30.CHEERING Well, Michelangelo is best
:22:31. > :22:33.remembered for the work that he did on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
:22:34. > :22:37.This man's best work will probably be remembered here on the hollowed
:22:38. > :22:40.turf of the Centre Court. We witnessed one of the best forehands
:22:41. > :22:55.he's ever struck. He's now got two match points.
:22:56. > :22:58.CHEERING And he's through to his 12th
:22:59. > :23:13.semifinal here at Wimbledon! He has so many records, so many
:23:14. > :23:18.numbers by his name. But that is the most in the Open Era ahead of Jimmy
:23:19. > :23:22.Connors now. He is virtually ahead of everybody in every category. He
:23:23. > :23:34.is simply one of the best of all time.
:23:35. > :23:39.For me, the reaction on match point tells me a lot about how he felt
:23:40. > :23:44.with regards to this match, this opponent. The history of 12 months
:23:45. > :23:48.ago, that he knew that Raonic was a dangerous opponent with a serve like
:23:49. > :23:55.that. And from 0- three in that third set tie-break to win the next
:23:56. > :23:57.seven of eight points... He feels good about this match and good about
:23:58. > :24:09.his chances. Moving forward. Well, he'll be aware of cause of who
:24:10. > :24:15.he plays in that semifinal, because it flashed up on the screen here on
:24:16. > :24:19.Centre Court. Tomas Berdych of course through with the retirement
:24:20. > :24:23.of Novak Djokovic. But he had to get past the man that put him out of the
:24:24. > :24:28.semifinal stage last year, and he did so in straight sets. It seems
:24:29. > :24:30.straightforward over the first couple of sets, but then things got
:24:31. > :24:52.a little tricky, and he was certainly tested.
:24:53. > :25:00.What a year it has been. Better than anybody, I'm sure, could have
:25:01. > :25:08.scripted, even the most die-hard Federer fan. After stopping a year
:25:09. > :25:13.early in 2016 to get himself fit and healthy, he came so quickly out of
:25:14. > :25:17.the in Australia, and he is continuing his charge in the middle
:25:18. > :25:21.part of the season, having taken the clay-court part of the season off,
:25:22. > :25:26.what a great decision that is looking like right now. Certainly a
:25:27. > :25:31.lot of people were questioning it at that time. Having spoken to him, he
:25:32. > :25:33.said, I've only won the French once in 18 attempts. I think I'll save my
:25:34. > :25:45.energies for the grass. Well, he's certainly been saving his
:25:46. > :25:51.energy, hasn't he? He has yet to drop a set. Through to the
:25:52. > :25:58.semifinals here. Energy won't be a problem. And normal motivation.
:25:59. > :26:06.There's the score, -- nor will motivation. And he will be chatting
:26:07. > :26:09.with Lee McKenzie. Roger, yet again, due to congratulations. Your 100th
:26:10. > :26:14.match at Wimbledon ends in victory. An excellent performance for a big
:26:15. > :26:18.Master? Absolutely, I can't believe it, 100 matches is Inglot. Very
:26:19. > :26:22.happy that my body kept me going over all these years -- is quite a
:26:23. > :26:26.lot. It was a perfect setting, beautiful weather, the crowd was
:26:27. > :26:29.into it, the Mexican wave, an Wimbledon Centre Court you don't see
:26:30. > :26:36.that every day. It was great. I'm so, so happy to be in another Sehmi
:26:37. > :26:39.here. Your body has kept you going. Everybody has been talking about the
:26:40. > :26:42.four pillars of men's tennis, you are the last man standing because
:26:43. > :26:46.Novak Djokovic has retired injured, Andy Murray is out and traffic is
:26:47. > :26:50.not here. A different complexion than we thought maybe just ten days
:26:51. > :26:55.ago -- Rafa is not here. Probably, but we knew that the danger was
:26:56. > :27:00.there for anyone of us. I hope Novak is OK with his injury, because I saw
:27:01. > :27:07.that he retired. Rafa fought till the very end of -- and Andy wasn't
:27:08. > :27:12.looking very good with his injury, I hope they will recover for the time
:27:13. > :27:16.of the American summer and play their hearts out over there again.
:27:17. > :27:19.Rafa, I'm convinced he will be back very strong. It's unfortunate that
:27:20. > :27:23.they don't go on, but there's other great stories in the tournament. I
:27:24. > :27:28.predicted that Cilic could have a deep run at Wimbledon, and he is
:27:29. > :27:33.proven to do so. Gilles Muller was incredible, and Murray by Djokovic
:27:34. > :27:39.here last year. -- Querrey eat Djokovic. He is a good friend of
:27:40. > :27:44.mine. It is nice to see different guys, maybe, but I'm happy that my
:27:45. > :27:48.dream run continues, and we'll see what happens next. Everybody is
:27:49. > :27:51.talking about the type of tennis you're playing. It looks like
:27:52. > :27:58.perfection, sublime. When you come off court, do you see it is sublime
:27:59. > :28:02.tennis what does Roger Federer think he still needs to be working on
:28:03. > :28:06.Basilica you can always play better but you can definitely play much
:28:07. > :28:13.worse. You feel the same everyday. Can conditions changed. Maybe not as
:28:14. > :28:18.hot and crisp and fast as the first week. You adjust to the conditions.
:28:19. > :28:22.As I go to work, you know, just produce the best every single day.
:28:23. > :28:26.You have to make sure that your average is as high as possible every
:28:27. > :28:31.single day, and I'm doing a great job this week. Another good day in
:28:32. > :28:37.the office, well done. Thank you. SUE BARKER: I'm sure he is happy. He
:28:38. > :28:41.was tested in the third set tie-break, down 3-0, but from there
:28:42. > :28:44.he got better and better. He was unplayable. I don't care who wins
:28:45. > :28:49.down the other end of the net, that was a superhuman performance from
:28:50. > :28:54.Roger. He has won back his 100th match year and reached his 12th
:28:55. > :28:57.Wimbledon semifinal, he is on for a record eighth title. The records
:28:58. > :29:03.keep tumbling for this great champion. And he is through to the
:29:04. > :29:06.semifinal yet again. And everyone coming out of Centre Court, they
:29:07. > :29:10.have seen something truly special. You think you're going to see tennis
:29:11. > :29:15.played at the highest quality, but that was even better than that.
:29:16. > :29:18.Roger was just so good today. Well, Roger was wishing that Novak is OK.
:29:19. > :29:26.The sad news coming from Court Number One is that Djokovic has been
:29:27. > :29:30.forced to retire. Novak lost the first set tie-break to Berdych. But
:29:31. > :29:33.it really dominated this tie-break. You can see that his heart really
:29:34. > :29:37.wasn't in it, Djokovic. He called to the umpire, who called for the
:29:38. > :29:40.trainer halfway through the tie-break. The trainer came on
:29:41. > :29:44.court. When he was playing yesterday, it was the shoulder. This
:29:45. > :29:48.is further down. There is obviously quite a few problems going on with
:29:49. > :29:53.the Novak. More than elbow and forearm problem. The train was on
:29:54. > :29:57.court. He tried to battle on. But this was the shock that put him down
:29:58. > :30:05.3-0. And you can see that he was just in so much pain. When you're in
:30:06. > :30:10.that much pain, it is pointless to the semifinal, so he walked up. No
:30:11. > :30:15.player likes to do this, to end on a retirement. Certainly a great
:30:16. > :30:19.champion as well. He did retired ten years ago in a semifinal against the
:30:20. > :30:23.dull. But it is certainly not the way he wants to go out -- against
:30:24. > :30:28.the Bell. Andre Agassi very sad to see that as well. Novak Djokovic out
:30:29. > :30:31.of the Championships as well. So, it really has been a dramatic day here
:30:32. > :30:35.at Wimbledon, not what we expected when we arrived here this morning.
:30:36. > :30:40.On Centre Court it was Andy Murray's turn to suffer an injury. The injury
:30:41. > :30:44.we've been following for the past three weeks, the hip injury, Murray
:30:45. > :30:48.losing in five sets to Sam Querrey, who certainly played a fantastic
:30:49. > :30:54.match, in the middle of the third set Murray was limping. He was only
:30:55. > :30:58.58 minutes, the last two sets. Take nothing away from this man, Sam
:30:59. > :31:02.Querrey, he played the match of his life, through to his first-ever
:31:03. > :31:06.Grand Slam semifinal. And he played a magnificent match, but it was very
:31:07. > :31:09.sad to see and is struggling with his serve, struggling with his
:31:10. > :31:15.movement, and limping out of Wimbledon.
:31:16. > :31:20.After the match he spoke with Clare Balding.
:31:21. > :31:23.Andy, I'm sorry about that. You will want to pay due credit to Sam
:31:24. > :31:33.Querrey and how he played out of there. Yeah, I think it was a tight
:31:34. > :31:37.match, the first few sets. I had some opportunities in the second
:31:38. > :31:44.set, up a break. But some started to play better as the match went on. He
:31:45. > :31:48.served big. He was a lot more aggressive, especially on the return
:31:49. > :31:53.games. I think because he was serving better and getting a lot
:31:54. > :32:00.more free points on serve, he was able to loosen up and go shot a
:32:01. > :32:05.little bit more. And yeah, he dated -- dictated pretty much most of the
:32:06. > :32:08.match at the end of the second set. He was starting to play better and
:32:09. > :32:12.move better, you were starting to move with noticeable restriction.
:32:13. > :32:20.When did you first start to feel pain and lack of power on your
:32:21. > :32:26.serve? Look, I spoke about it before the tournament. My hip has been saw
:32:27. > :32:32.most of the event. Yeah, it was a little bit to sort today. In the end
:32:33. > :32:35.I was struggling a bit on serve. When you are playing a guy who
:32:36. > :32:40.service huge himself, and you are not getting many free points on your
:32:41. > :32:45.own serve, it is very difficult. You are not dictating many rallies. You
:32:46. > :32:50.are having to do more moving and that was tough at the end. If it
:32:51. > :32:54.hadn't been Wimbledon, if it had been a normal tournament, would you
:32:55. > :32:59.have skipped it? I think if it was any slam I would have... I get
:33:00. > :33:04.myself a great chance to get to the semis. I had an opportunity to win
:33:05. > :33:09.the match in straight sets. I was up a set and they break. Unfortunately,
:33:10. > :33:13.I didn't get that. I was in good enough shape to give myself a chance
:33:14. > :33:24.to go deep in the tournament. And almost managed to get through today.
:33:25. > :33:28.Any slam I would have taken that compared to how I was feeling before
:33:29. > :33:34.the tournament started. I would have been out there for a slam, for sure.
:33:35. > :33:38.What is the plan now in terms of treatment and giving yourself time
:33:39. > :33:45.to get back to top shape? I will sit down with my team tomorrow and see.
:33:46. > :33:53.Obviously the US Open is six, seven weeks away. There is time. I will
:33:54. > :34:01.sit down with my team and come up with the best plan of action.
:34:02. > :34:06.Whether that is taking a bit of a rest or not, we have to wait and
:34:07. > :34:08.see. But we will do that tomorrow. It was a brave defence. I'm sorry
:34:09. > :34:16.it's over. Thank you. Yes, it was. This was
:34:17. > :34:22.just a short time ago. Andy leaving along with Josh Murray, part of his
:34:23. > :34:28.management team. No relation. You see him limping out of Wimbledon.
:34:29. > :34:32.Very sore. Hip injuries are very difficult to cure. I have a horrible
:34:33. > :34:38.feeling we may not see him back on the tennis court for some time. That
:34:39. > :34:43.was the news from earlier. An injury for Andy, an injury for Djokovic as
:34:44. > :34:48.well. But Federer has gone marching on. We have seen Querrey go through.
:34:49. > :34:54.We know he will need Marin Cilic, who came through in five sets
:34:55. > :34:57.against Gilles Muller, the man who put out Rafael Nadal. That is what
:34:58. > :35:00.it means to him to be in the world and semifinal, the first time he has
:35:01. > :35:06.been in the women's and semifinal. He has lost at the quarterfinal
:35:07. > :35:13.stage for the last four years. He is always dangerous in a Grand Slam. A
:35:14. > :35:17.huge serve. Big forehand and backs -- backhand. It means a lot to him
:35:18. > :35:22.to be through. Knowing this is a huge opportunity as the draw is
:35:23. > :35:26.opening up. His coach absolutely delighted with how he came back in
:35:27. > :35:32.that match. Let's hear what he had to say
:35:33. > :35:35.afterwards. Many congratulations. You are through to the semi final at
:35:36. > :35:39.Wimbledon for the first time. What does that mean to it means a lot.
:35:40. > :35:46.Absolutely amazing achievement. I was three times getting stuck in the
:35:47. > :35:51.quarters. This is just amazing, an amazing achievement. Today was a
:35:52. > :35:55.really hard-fought battle. He played great tennis. He was serving
:35:56. > :35:59.unbelievable. I had to work hard until basically the end of the third
:36:00. > :36:06.set get a first break. It was just a couple of points deciding match. I'm
:36:07. > :36:12.glad I pulled it. You let out a scream at the end of the match. What
:36:13. > :36:16.were you feeling? Obviously I was focused mentally to get it over
:36:17. > :36:20.with, especially when these matches are quite long, you have to keep
:36:21. > :36:24.your focus. It was just a relief to finally do it. Speaking about
:36:25. > :36:27.keeping your focus, you lost the first set, the first one you had
:36:28. > :36:32.dropped in the tournament. How did you gather yourself for a fightback?
:36:33. > :36:38.I kept my cool. I played well until today. I knew I was going to get in
:36:39. > :36:43.a good rhythm. I wasn't serving as good in the first set as in the
:36:44. > :36:49.first couple of matches. He returned really well. I tried to gather my
:36:50. > :36:53.thoughts and continued to play good tennis. Were you aware of what was
:36:54. > :37:01.happening on Centre Court? Did you see the scoreboard? I saw it at the
:37:02. > :37:07.end of the match that Sam won. Amazing achievement for him.
:37:08. > :37:15.Definitely from -- great for both of us might to reach the semis. You
:37:16. > :37:18.played the longest match in Wimbledon history five years ago.
:37:19. > :37:24.What can you expect in the semifinal? Hopefully not the longest
:37:25. > :37:28.one! Definitely Sam has an amazing server and plays really well,
:37:29. > :37:33.especially this season. A lot of success. That will be a hard one. I
:37:34. > :37:36.will get ready and get back into my rhythm and try to play good tennis.
:37:37. > :37:44.Good love. Well done. Thank you. When we started the
:37:45. > :37:49.championships we expected the top four to go through to the
:37:50. > :37:51.semifinals. This is what we have. Sam Querrey against Marin Cilic and
:37:52. > :37:57.Roger Federer against Thomas Berdych. Between them they hold 19
:37:58. > :38:05.grand slam titles, Federer has 18 of them. Overwhelming favourite, I
:38:06. > :38:09.think it is fair to say. Let's reflect on what has been a dramatic,
:38:10. > :38:14.momentous day. Boris Becker is with me. We talk about Andy Murray. He
:38:15. > :38:24.battled hard on that court but it was obvious halfway through the
:38:25. > :38:31.third set that he was struggling? Remarkable that he carried on. On
:38:32. > :38:34.the Sunday before the championship, that is when he green-lighted his
:38:35. > :38:38.participation in the tournament. He was struggling. He would never admit
:38:39. > :38:43.it but he was struggling. The first week was pretty smooth until the
:38:44. > :38:47.Fognini match. He was about to go into the fifth set. He won the last
:38:48. > :38:52.five games. He had the weekend off. On Monday he looked pretty good.
:38:53. > :38:58.Losing the second set after being a break up, that cost him. That was
:38:59. > :39:02.the key. If he had got the first couple of set might have gone
:39:03. > :39:08.through. Not going five. Not going five. I believe Sam Querrey sensed
:39:09. > :39:12.the moment. Andy didn't have the power on the serve. Especially on
:39:13. > :39:17.the forehand. Players watch each other to see when one is struggling.
:39:18. > :39:22.Within the rules. Ultimately you want to win the match. Credit to Sam
:39:23. > :39:26.forgiving is focus on doing the right thing. He has really improved
:39:27. > :39:29.this year. We have always talked about his big serve. But more than
:39:30. > :39:36.that today, he was great from the back of the court. Since he beat
:39:37. > :39:41.Djokovic last year, which I remember in a different position, I have
:39:42. > :39:45.great respect for the American. He was always talented and powerful.
:39:46. > :39:51.Sometimes he didn't give it all. He has had a tremendous season. He won
:39:52. > :40:00.earlier in the year. He is not just a serve -- serve, one shot type of
:40:01. > :40:04.player. He plays with his heart on his sleeve. Moving Murray all over
:40:05. > :40:09.the place. Mixing it up. He is hitting the ball so well. That is
:40:10. > :40:12.what you have to do when you have an injured opponents down the other
:40:13. > :40:17.end. You have to stay focused. He certainly moved him around. This was
:40:18. > :40:22.an incredible point to give him the double break in the fifth. He knew
:40:23. > :40:25.how important this point was. Yes, you are playing the defending
:40:26. > :40:32.champion. Querrey did the right thing. Moving around. He wants to
:40:33. > :40:36.the point. He was going to make it as difficult as he could for Murray
:40:37. > :40:41.to win the point. He sees that physically he was struggling. Murray
:40:42. > :40:45.has to get back. He has two diagnosed how bad it is and how long
:40:46. > :40:51.the break will be. We have seen before hip injuries are not easy to
:40:52. > :40:55.get rid of. Yeah. I'm not sure whether he is fully aware yet of
:40:56. > :41:00.what is going to happen. He needs to be 100%. It is no good friend to
:41:01. > :41:04.play 75%. He may be good enough to come to the quarters. Easy number
:41:05. > :41:09.one player in the world. He wants to win tournaments. With his injury and
:41:10. > :41:15.his limitations in movement, that is the key phrase game. Needs to get
:41:16. > :41:21.fit 100%. Before he plays in tournaments again. Bad news for Andy
:41:22. > :41:25.Murray but not good news for Novak Djokovic. We saw a shoulder injury
:41:26. > :41:30.yesterday but an elbow injury today. It must have been a sad sight for
:41:31. > :41:35.you. I know you are not working with him and immoral but supporting him.
:41:36. > :41:39.Yes, it may be started from the neck. It moves down the arm. He has
:41:40. > :41:45.not played a lot of matches this year. He played at Eastbourne to get
:41:46. > :41:48.himself ready for grass. That is when you want to get yourself into
:41:49. > :41:54.form and not spend too much energy. Maybe there was too much for his
:41:55. > :41:57.arm. He didn't have the day off like everybody else yesterday. He had a
:41:58. > :42:04.pretty quick win against Mannarino but he still played. You can see
:42:05. > :42:09.here, he is only playing at half pace. He is not putting anything
:42:10. > :42:13.into it is -- into his shots. It is always sad, but you have to detect
:42:14. > :42:19.your body. If you do not feel you can win three sets, you are going to
:42:20. > :42:24.risk making that injury worse. Most players have niggles and pains.
:42:25. > :42:28.There is nobody in the second week was 100% healthy. He is an
:42:29. > :42:32.experienced player. He knows how bad the injury is. He knows best whether
:42:33. > :42:38.he can continue or not. He has won this tournament before. After the
:42:39. > :42:45.match, Novak Djokovic went back to the pressroom. He clarified is a
:42:46. > :42:52.clue what the injury was. It's not a shoulder, it is the elbow
:42:53. > :43:00.that keeps bothering for a year and a half. It is unfortunate that I had
:43:01. > :43:08.to finish Wimbledon Grand Slam this way. If someone feels bad about it,
:43:09. > :43:14.it is me. But you know, I tried. I tried. What I could do from
:43:15. > :43:22.yesterday to get it in the condition where I am able to play. I was able
:43:23. > :43:30.maybe for 30 minutes to play with some pain that was bearable. Let's
:43:31. > :43:37.put it that way. All the treatment and medication couldn't help. The
:43:38. > :43:45.serve and forehand or the shots were I could feel it the most.
:43:46. > :43:51.There was really no sense. It is another blow for him. It has been a
:43:52. > :43:56.disappointing year. If you think about dominating by a mile last
:43:57. > :44:03.year. Nowhere near the form. Yes, physical injury is a part of it.
:44:04. > :44:07.Yes, the race for number one last year. They went back to scheduling
:44:08. > :44:12.this year. But it is a gruelling season. It is a gruelling tour. If
:44:13. > :44:18.you are not 100% fit, everybody will chase you, everybody will take the
:44:19. > :44:22.extra 10% to beat Djokovic, to beat Murray. That is the other problem
:44:23. > :44:27.they have. When they are 100% fit everybody wants to beat them. Spas
:44:28. > :44:32.Thomas Berdych was concerned, he knew how important the first set
:44:33. > :44:39.tie-break was. You can always sense when a player is injured, can't you?
:44:40. > :44:45.Very much so. Thomas is a veteran. He is a Wimbledon finalist before.
:44:46. > :44:49.They have played 26 times. His record wasn't the best. He has
:44:50. > :44:53.beaten him on grass before. If there is one surface where he has a
:44:54. > :45:00.chance, it is grass. It has proven to be right. Always hard to beat. He
:45:01. > :45:05.is a big hitter. Poking of big hitters, Marin Cilic, that roar at
:45:06. > :45:10.the end of the match. Finally he is knocking at the door. It is so
:45:11. > :45:15.frustrating for a player that talented. Always to follow the same
:45:16. > :45:19.hurdle. It was a huge mental relief. I am sure all the pressures of now,
:45:20. > :45:25.he is in the semifinal against Querrey. You sure the pressure is
:45:26. > :45:29.off? I think it is less than before because reaching the semifinal is
:45:30. > :45:34.already a big achievement. For both players it is a huge opportunity to
:45:35. > :45:38.go down in the history books. He is always dangerous. He has got the big
:45:39. > :45:45.serve. Yunus Bjorkman is making him be more aggressive. Very much so. He
:45:46. > :45:55.was a winner at the Queen's Club. He is a natural on grass. He moves
:45:56. > :45:59.well. He is a big hitter. You mentioned 19 grand slams, 18 by
:46:00. > :46:04.Federer but one by Cilic. He has won one already. As far as his game
:46:05. > :46:10.goes, he has got such a big wingspan. He is hard to pass. Yeah,
:46:11. > :46:16.he has a big authority on the court when he is playing well. For a big
:46:17. > :46:20.guy, he gets to a lot of balls. His footwork is excellent and he plays
:46:21. > :46:23.with emotion. That is so important in the later stages of the
:46:24. > :46:31.tournament. He has got the full package. I think he is proving a
:46:32. > :46:34.point to himself. I think that is what the reaction was about. He
:46:35. > :46:40.wants to be a grand slam champion. That is what he will be remembered
:46:41. > :46:44.for. Absolutely. In practice sessions, what motivates you? What
:46:45. > :46:48.stimulates you? Where do you want to leave your mark to the different
:46:49. > :46:53.slams. What is the most important one? It is Wimbledon. We have just
:46:54. > :47:00.been watching the sublime Roger Federer. Just how good was he? A
:47:01. > :47:03.masterclass. I can't believe he is playing the top level at 35.
:47:04. > :47:08.Everybody thought last year was maybe the last one we have seen from
:47:09. > :47:13.him. He was injured in the knee. We had to take six months off. Fast
:47:14. > :47:17.forward and he is the dominating player not only at Wimbledon but
:47:18. > :47:21.throughout the year. Remarkable. I don't know how he does it. The way
:47:22. > :47:28.he is playing, it is better than ever at 35. He is more aggressive
:47:29. > :47:32.than recent years. He has two. Tennis is changing every 1824
:47:33. > :47:36.months. Whatever was good ten years ago is not good and immoral.
:47:37. > :47:42.Opponents read your game, you have two improved consistently. The fact
:47:43. > :47:47.that he has improved all aspects of his game. He has improved his
:47:48. > :47:53.backhand. He is a natural at the net. His footwork... We could go on
:47:54. > :47:59.and on. This guy is one of a kind. We talk about the big service. His
:48:00. > :48:08.placement is so good. He mixes it so well. You can't redid. No, it is a
:48:09. > :48:15.technique. He uses little effort to win service games. He has the slice,
:48:16. > :48:22.he has the kick, he hates it onto body. He uses all six spots where he
:48:23. > :48:26.is supposed to serve. He does it during the whole match. That is
:48:27. > :48:30.frustrating for his opponent. You don't have many opportunities to
:48:31. > :48:35.break his serve. When you look at who is in the semifinals, everybody
:48:36. > :48:42.will say, shall we give him the trophy now? He is clear favourite
:48:43. > :48:47.but he knows better. The strength in depth? Absolutely. The others are on
:48:48. > :48:52.top of their form. The pressure is on the man from Switzerland. As far
:48:53. > :49:00.as we're concerned, will we be talking about tomorrow? Jo Konta!
:49:01. > :49:05.Yes Boris, absolutely! Thank you for coming in. Lovely to get your
:49:06. > :49:09.thoughts on the semifinals. Yes, we will be talking about Jo Konta
:49:10. > :49:13.tomorrow. She is second on Centre Court against Venus Williams. What a
:49:14. > :49:18.test against the five-time Wimbledon champion. Somebody who knows all
:49:19. > :49:25.about the big occasion. It will be interesting to see how she copes.
:49:26. > :49:31.Garbine Muguruza, former finalist, against the fairy tale story of the
:49:32. > :49:35.championships, Magdalena Rybarikova. She was injured. She only came back
:49:36. > :49:40.on the tour in February and she is in the last four. That is tomorrow.
:49:41. > :49:44.But now we're heading out to court number two to see the defending
:49:45. > :49:50.champions in the mixed doubles. Henry continent and Heather Watson
:49:51. > :49:59.against Ivan Dodig and Mercer. They have just taken the first set.
:50:00. > :50:07.Let's find out more about it as we join Sam Smith and Nick Mullins.
:50:08. > :50:10.APPLAUSE It has been a mightily impressive
:50:11. > :50:15.performance from the defending champions. Heather Watson lost our
:50:16. > :50:23.first service game. Dodi gone the other side of the net served for the
:50:24. > :50:33.first set at 5-4. He was broken. Continent and Watson took a Donnie
:50:34. > :50:36.tie-break. This is Dodig and murders. A combination of Croatian
:50:37. > :50:56.and Indian. It has been interesting watching
:50:57. > :51:02.this one. Merz and Dodi gave more powerful team all round. But they
:51:03. > :51:18.don't have that chemistry of Watson and Kontinen.
:51:19. > :51:25.Two break points at the start of the second set. The defending champions
:51:26. > :51:28.looked as if they missed a little sharpness in the first few games.
:51:29. > :51:55.They have got better and better as every game has rolled by.
:51:56. > :52:03.Kontinen is ranked number one in the doubles charts. The world's best
:52:04. > :52:15.player in this format of the game. She has chosen well, Heather Watson,
:52:16. > :52:18.in this year's championship. There were too good for everybody else
:52:19. > :52:46.last summer, the defending champions.
:52:47. > :52:57.The two of them back a year on from their day of days and Centre Court.
:52:58. > :53:02.They are looking to do it again. It is indefinable but there is a
:53:03. > :53:08.chemistry that is hard to put your finger on. Yes, I think it has a lot
:53:09. > :53:13.to do with Kontinen. He is so chilled, so relaxed. He is quite
:53:14. > :53:19.extravagant in some of the shots he plays. He is a showman. Flair at his
:53:20. > :53:25.best. That keeps Heather super relaxed. She feels as if she can go
:53:26. > :53:45.after her shots. He let her take responsibility. It seems to work.
:53:46. > :53:49.One feature of the first set, Dodig and Mirza are not getting enough
:53:50. > :54:17.first serves in. Kontinen playing his second visit to
:54:18. > :54:25.this court today. He was on here first thing in the men's doubles
:54:26. > :54:32.with his partner, John Peers. They won their game in the fifth set. And
:54:33. > :54:37.he is playing so far like he has not needed a map to get around this
:54:38. > :54:42.place. He knows it well. Is serving is outstanding. I watched them in
:54:43. > :54:54.previous round. You just couldn't lay a hand on him.
:54:55. > :55:10.Well, I'm sorry, he says. None of us believe it. He just dragged it down.
:55:11. > :55:50.You can see how far he fell left when he hit that Jokanovic. -- shot.
:55:51. > :56:07.Sagna Mirza is 30 now. Once a top 30 singles player. It is doubles that
:56:08. > :56:14.pays the bills these days. That is the most famous woman in India! She
:56:15. > :56:19.has not had the electricity bill coming through the post box and
:56:20. > :56:29.thought, oh no, that is going to be a stretch! She has been great for
:56:30. > :56:37.the sport back home. She bases her self in Hyderabad largely. She has
:56:38. > :56:43.raised the levels of tennis there. She is one of the big superstars.
:56:44. > :56:51.And that was as straightforward as it gets.
:56:52. > :57:04.UMPIRE: New balls, please. Kontinen and Watson may be the
:57:05. > :57:15.champions but it didn't impress the seedings committee.
:57:16. > :57:23.They beat the 13th seeds in the second run. They are yet to drop a
:57:24. > :57:33.set. They are kind of picking up where they left off last summer.
:57:34. > :57:35.Yes, it was a French ship and a duo that build through the rounds. There
:57:36. > :57:40.were quite shaking in their opening match. I was lucky enough to follow
:57:41. > :57:47.them pretty much all the way through. There was no sign in even
:57:48. > :57:51.the first match, the second match, they would be the champions. It just
:57:52. > :57:58.sort of unfolded in front of us. They smiled. Henry hit massive
:57:59. > :58:09.service, a few crazy shots. It was a dream for both of them. Next up,
:58:10. > :58:15.Heather Watson. British number two these days, behind Jo Konta. New
:58:16. > :58:27.balls. A brick of serve in the second set. 2-1.
:58:28. > :58:36.One of the reasons that Heather's singles has become more buoyant than
:58:37. > :58:38.it was a few months ago is her first serve accuracy has improved. There
:58:39. > :59:09.seems to be more pop on it as well. I remember asking them after they
:59:10. > :59:15.won Lasher, who is the boss? They both looked at each other. The way
:59:16. > :59:32.Kontinen looked at Heather, I think Heather is the boss!
:59:33. > :00:26.Continent and Watson have done a very good job of neutralising both
:00:27. > :00:32.the returns of their opponents, particularly Sania Mirza,
:00:33. > :00:33.particularly off the forehand wing, easier to deal with. Done it very
:00:34. > :00:45.well. Ahead courtesy of the early break in
:00:46. > :01:00.the second set. Her mum has been leading by applause
:01:01. > :01:04.all evening. It looks a lovely evening, and it is a lovely evening,
:01:05. > :01:14.but there's a bit of a chill in the air.
:01:15. > :01:27.Even though Dick, the 32-year-old Croat from Zagreb. -- Ivan Dodig.
:01:28. > :01:33.He's a grant from champion, winner of the men's doubles at the French
:01:34. > :01:36.Open a couple of years ago now -- he is a Grand Slam champion. He and his
:01:37. > :01:46.partner outlasted the Bryan brothers.
:01:47. > :01:53.A couple of years before that, success on court. They had been
:01:54. > :01:55.runners-up to be American twins here at Wimbledon. He has been a
:01:56. > :02:07.Wimbledon finalist. This might, having been a really
:02:08. > :02:10.good singles player, he is now a fully road-tested the Bulls star. --
:02:11. > :02:36.doubles star. Well, I'm not surprised he's the
:02:37. > :02:40.world is best, because he's got unbelievable power. And then the
:02:41. > :02:41.softness, the vision and the imagination to play such difficult
:02:42. > :02:51.shots. He will have played on a lot of
:02:52. > :02:54.quick courts through the winter, back in Finland, in doors. Wonderful
:02:55. > :03:08.reactions. UMPIRE: Mr Dodi challenging the
:03:09. > :03:13.call, the ball was called out. -- Mr Dodig.
:03:14. > :03:54.These two have twice come close to winning a Grand Slam in tandem, but
:03:55. > :03:58.not quite get over the line yet. They lost a Championship tie-break
:03:59. > :04:01.in the first sat 10-8, and at the start of this year they lost to
:04:02. > :04:08.Abigail Spears and Juan Sebastian Cabal. In Melbourne. So they are
:04:09. > :04:12.pushing. It would come as no surprise if they ended up winning
:04:13. > :04:16.this, the fourth seeds, but they are going to have to come from behind
:04:17. > :04:19.your. They are very good, but the blend of skills is not quite doing
:04:20. > :04:26.it for me at the moment -- from behind here. I thought Dodig would
:04:27. > :04:32.be more in charge at dominating this match.
:04:33. > :04:40.There's still plenty of time, though. Watson and Kontinen with a
:04:41. > :04:47.double break would make us rest a lot easier. The shadows and then on
:04:48. > :04:55.Court Number Two. -- are lengthening. The six foot to frame
:04:56. > :05:25.of Henri Kontinen of Finland prepares to serve.
:05:26. > :05:34.APPLAUSE It is a tennis career for Kontinen
:05:35. > :05:41.very much based on playing this sport alongside somebody else. He's
:05:42. > :05:45.never been higher than 120 in the singles. Injury helped him start to
:05:46. > :05:48.zone in on the doubles. He had one or two injury problems and thought,
:05:49. > :06:09.it would be better to play alongside somebody else.
:06:10. > :06:19.She got herself in such a muddle with her signals then! It's such a
:06:20. > :06:23.difficult serve to return. If you watch Kontinen, he's almost got that
:06:24. > :06:29.kind of double jointed salt so much older or something, the way that he
:06:30. > :06:34.leans back and puts himself in that position. -- double jointed shoulder
:06:35. > :06:35.or something. You can't get any clues from the racket face where he
:06:36. > :06:46.is going. That's some flexibility that most of
:06:47. > :06:52.us don't possess. And then he's got this wonderful kind of Leo Goosen
:06:53. > :07:08.whip with the racket, a fantastic snap as well. -- a last zoo whip.
:07:09. > :07:32.And you do find the kind of fiendish angles in this version of the game,
:07:33. > :07:36.Sam, that you just don't find on this single is called.
:07:37. > :07:50.-- singles court. Once again, serving.
:07:51. > :08:08.Big reaction from both of them here. They know they could do with another
:08:09. > :08:17.break. It's the Watson serve up next.
:08:18. > :08:25.She served tremendously well, but she was broken in her third game of
:08:26. > :08:27.the match. Also, it's the last roll of the dice for Mirza and Dodig,
:08:28. > :09:30.they will be targeting it. How can somebody seemingly so casual
:09:31. > :09:33.playing doubles tennis from another planet?! This was sewed up by
:09:34. > :09:40.Heather's brilliant backhand. She got so good. Kontinen has the
:09:41. > :09:42.licence to do whatever he wants, but look how he disguised his body as
:09:43. > :10:07.well. And he avoided the bag. Freedom and fun, that is Henri 's
:10:08. > :10:12.tennis motto. Not quite so much smiling on the other side of the net
:10:13. > :10:18.at the moment. For this pair, it's a very serious business.
:10:19. > :10:34.Sharpe from Dodig. Business still to attend to.
:10:35. > :10:44.Ivan Dodig has a good story to tell, the story of his life, as he
:10:45. > :10:49.struggled to establish himself as a youngster on the tennis circuit. He
:10:50. > :10:55.recalled nights where he couldn't afford a hotel. He slept as a guest
:10:56. > :10:58.in bus stations, airports. And in the back of his car, which I think
:10:59. > :11:04.was his favourite spot. But it's a struggle. And we too easily lose
:11:05. > :11:08.sight of that sometimes when watching players on a stage like
:11:09. > :11:12.this. So many of the players who are not from Grand Slam countries, they
:11:13. > :11:16.are not well funded. Croatia has a lot of talent, and there are so many
:11:17. > :11:25.Croatians that unless they are signed to a sponsor or picked up by
:11:26. > :11:28.a big Academy, like some from that part of the world, there could be so
:11:29. > :11:32.many more Croatian tennis players actually out there if they were
:11:33. > :11:38.properly funded. Tell us the story of how he had to walk three hours a
:11:39. > :11:42.day -- he tells the story, he had to leave at 6am to get there from 9am,
:11:43. > :11:49.and then that three or walk on the way home, that's dedication. --
:11:50. > :11:52.three old walk. Right now, it's all about Heather Watson. A smile still
:11:53. > :11:56.on her face, despite the pressure she must be fuelling. This is so
:11:57. > :12:00.good for her. In singles, this is the moment where Heather can just
:12:01. > :12:11.tense up a little, not let that go through. -- not let that on.
:12:12. > :12:19.If she can replicate these situations in a less extreme
:12:20. > :12:20.circumstance with some support on the court, it's going to help her
:12:21. > :13:21.singles. That was not far away, Sam. Well,
:13:22. > :13:26.one of the reasons he missed was because there was a wonderful move
:13:27. > :13:32.off the ball from Henri Kontinen. He just sort of pushed Dodig wide with
:13:33. > :13:42.that return. You've got to keep this serve away from the Mirza forehand.
:13:43. > :13:59.Excellent! 108 mph. It is a big serve from Heather. She has added a
:14:00. > :14:00.few more mph, and that serving accuracy has been a revelation this
:14:01. > :14:15.grass court season. Well played, Heather Watson! With a
:14:16. > :14:19.little bit of work from Henri Kontinen. And they are one game away
:14:20. > :14:20.from taking their place in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, the
:14:21. > :14:54.defending champions. The scoreline might look
:14:55. > :14:58.comfortable, but it's very important for the defending champions when
:14:59. > :14:59.these two work really hard in the service game, just to keep applying
:15:00. > :15:17.the pressure. Oh, no! I think we're going to have
:15:18. > :15:23.to have another look at that to believe that it happened! Heather
:15:24. > :15:36.can't believe it, is neither can her mum.
:15:37. > :16:18.Henry's top ten of show tunes, that has to be at number one -- Henri.
:16:19. > :16:34.Haven't got the sack numbers, but the backhand wing is Heather Watson
:16:35. > :16:36.has been a vital component. She has won so many points for her team on
:16:37. > :16:42.that side. They need at least one more game to
:16:43. > :16:58.sort this one out. Ivan Dodig holding his nerve. And
:16:59. > :17:03.holding his serve, despite some extra terrestrial brilliance in the
:17:04. > :17:15.middle of that game from the Finn. This will be worth watching again.
:17:16. > :17:25.Oh! It's actually a really, good Boys' Singles play at -- he was a
:17:26. > :17:29.good Boys' Singles player. He was a runner-up and beat Bernard Tomic in
:17:30. > :17:32.the semifinal. Before eventually losing to Grigor Dimitrov in the
:17:33. > :17:51.final. But that was something else. Right, down to business, however.
:17:52. > :17:55.You won't get shots as good as that to get into the quarterfinals,
:17:56. > :17:58.but... They need some brilliance here. The defending champions for a
:17:59. > :18:19.place in this year's quarterfinal. CROWD GASPS
:18:20. > :18:28.He's not the only genius on the court!
:18:29. > :18:42.Well, there's been a sharpness about these two this evening.
:18:43. > :18:51.APPLAUSE Honestly, Sam, this has been so much
:18:52. > :18:58.fun. This is one of those that you could do with five sets for. The
:18:59. > :19:03.serve is just extraordinary. It is a very unusual action, the way that he
:19:04. > :19:06.lays his head back, lays his body back, and the racket sort of comes
:19:07. > :19:22.from by high him. He has got a superfast arm.
:19:23. > :19:27.And you look at the kind of realisation with the defending
:19:28. > :19:31.champion, there's been so much tension, hasn't that, with Mirza and
:19:32. > :19:46.Dodig. They've not really released themselves out here.
:19:47. > :19:54.Just making sure that they get the code right.
:19:55. > :20:05.And again! Completely bemused now! I think she's going right, maybe.
:20:06. > :20:16.UMPIRE: Mr Dodig challenging the call. Right baseline. The ball was
:20:17. > :20:19.called out. If the Croat isn't right, then we've got two match
:20:20. > :20:27.points. And he's not right by a long way. UMPIRE: Mr Dodig and miss Mirza
:20:28. > :21:42.have one challenge remaining. The evening balm for British tennis,
:21:43. > :21:48.at the end of what's been a tough game. No more Andy Murray, but
:21:49. > :21:53.hopefully lots more Heather Watson. In tandem with the genius that is
:21:54. > :22:04.Henri Kontinen, the defending champions,,! Into the quarterfinals.
:22:05. > :22:10.This was a serious, serious test. But the crowd have really enjoyed
:22:11. > :22:13.the Heather and Henri show, and they continue with us for the rest of the
:22:14. > :22:24.week. H squared, quite a partnership. Absolutely magnificent.
:22:25. > :22:30.Not just Kontinen with some tennis genius out here, Watson as well.
:22:31. > :22:35.There are three -- three wins straight sets.
:22:36. > :22:38.SUE BARKER: Yes, they are enjoying another fantastic run through these
:22:39. > :22:43.Championships. The defending champions through to the next round.
:22:44. > :22:46.And isn't it lovely and so enjoyable to watch the mixed doubles here late
:22:47. > :22:50.in the evening after all of the drama of the singles on the show
:22:51. > :22:56.court. Everybody enjoying that match out Court Number Two. Isn't that a
:22:57. > :23:02.fabulous shot? What a lovely evening it is here as well. We have a lot to
:23:03. > :23:05.look forward to. Coming up next at 8pm, Clare Balding with Today at
:23:06. > :23:14.Wimbledon. I'll be back tomorrow at 12:30pm on BBC Two. And 145 on BBC
:23:15. > :23:18.One. We will be looking forward to this, the order of play on Centre
:23:19. > :23:24.Court on Lady semifinals they... First up it is Garbine Muguruza
:23:25. > :23:28.against Magdalena Rybarikova, what a story that is. Muguruza is a former
:23:29. > :23:32.finalist here. And then the lady with the most experience of this
:23:33. > :23:36.Championship, Venus Williams, five times the champion. She is up
:23:37. > :23:41.against items number one, Jo Konta. That is tomorrow on Centre Court. --
:23:42. > :23:47.Britain's number one. We are going to head to Court Number One, the
:23:48. > :23:52.British pair of Jocelyn Rae and Ken Skupski. We join it where they are
:23:53. > :23:59.just two points from losing this first set. Our commentators, Peter
:24:00. > :24:05.Harder a Matt Chilton. COMMENTATOR: Oh, that is a terrific
:24:06. > :24:13.return to set up... Set point for the second time. They have been
:24:14. > :24:22.round the houses are bit here. Deuce three times. Jocelyn Rae serving.
:24:23. > :24:23.Set point, the Russian Belarussian combination. Nearly punctures that
:24:24. > :24:40.volley to seal the opening set. 45 minutes it took. Max Mirnyi and
:24:41. > :24:45.Ekaterina Makarova had a break. They were pegged back. Max Mirnyi is
:24:46. > :24:48.unhappy about something. He is in conversation with the umpire. There
:24:49. > :24:52.are one or two calls that he was unsure. He didn't use his challenge.
:24:53. > :24:56.The walk-out challenge is available to the players out here, of course.
:24:57. > :25:01.They have plenty to be proud of, the Brits, in that opening set.
:25:02. > :25:05.Understandably it was a nervous start from them. They were always
:25:06. > :25:10.playing catch up. But they did such a good job from 5-2 down to get back
:25:11. > :25:13.to 5-2, almost broke the Makarova serve. Just the last couple of
:25:14. > :25:19.games, the big points just went the way of the Belarusian- Russian
:25:20. > :25:24.pairing. The stats are pretty good for the Brits, they'll be happy with
:25:25. > :25:27.that. They're not doing enough behind the first serve. Max Mirnyi
:25:28. > :25:36.and Makarova are able to read their service. It doesn't really tell by.
:25:37. > :25:43.Read. It was a slow start, a few nerves being on this court for these
:25:44. > :25:50.two. After going 5-2 down, they settled and played some stunning
:25:51. > :25:53.doubles. They are enjoying themselves. They have been laughing
:25:54. > :25:59.and joking at the changes of ends and the sit downs. I think it's
:26:00. > :26:02.important to do that. You know, it's not often in their career that they
:26:03. > :26:09.will have got out here on Court Number One, a show court. Neal
:26:10. > :26:17.Skupski, Ken's brother. He was in the men's doubles earlier on today.
:26:18. > :26:23.Max Mirnyi will serve at the start of the second set. He and Ekaterina
:26:24. > :26:26.Makarova having taken the first. He has got a decent first serve,
:26:27. > :26:36.probably the biggest first serve that Jocelyn Rae will face here at
:26:37. > :26:41.Wimbledon. Makarova just shuffling across to the centre of the court.
:26:42. > :26:47.Both pairs with a left-hand- right-hand combination. She had a
:26:48. > :26:51.bit of a dip in form, didn't she, when they were 5-2 up, but she's
:26:52. > :27:05.found her game again. This really lively net play.
:27:06. > :27:17.Just long. Skupskis challenging. I think that's probably... Oh, he's
:27:18. > :27:20.changed his mind. A bad idea, but he decided against it. The umpire,
:27:21. > :27:48.Pascal Maria. Oh, you've got to credit Jocelyn Rae
:27:49. > :27:54.just forgetting that fast serve bags, 121 mph. -- or betting that
:27:55. > :27:56.fast serve back. It was a mis-hit, but she did well to just get a
:27:57. > :28:16.bracket to it. -- a bracket to it. Oh, straight up the player. I hope
:28:17. > :28:20.she's all right. -- straight at the player. I'm sure Jocelyn Rae has had
:28:21. > :28:25.worse. It actually hit her hand, her left hand. Good to see that she's
:28:26. > :28:31.smiling. Apology from Max Mirnyi. But he
:28:32. > :28:42.certainly gave it plenty. Mirnyi and Makarova take the opening
:28:43. > :28:53.game of the second set. 49 minutes of play. It looked like
:28:54. > :29:02.it would be a runaway first set for a for a while for Mirnyi and
:29:03. > :29:06.Makarova. They weren't originally scheduled to be playing on Court
:29:07. > :29:08.Number One. But because of the Djokovic retirement and the need to
:29:09. > :29:13.keep the spectators entertained, they sent this match out to Court
:29:14. > :29:16.Number One. Delightful for the players and spectators to get a bit
:29:17. > :29:28.of British interest in some mixed doubles. Just 20 minutes or so for
:29:29. > :29:34.Skupski and Rae to settle down in this big arena. Nice play. It's not
:29:35. > :29:41.just a big arena, it's a big court. That's the thing that can sometimes
:29:42. > :29:47.affect players. Skupski turned out a hot streak at the back-end of that
:29:48. > :29:51.first set. He started enjoy himself. And he has served well.
:29:52. > :30:00.Not quite matching Mirnyi's 125 mph, but he's been up there. 118 his
:30:01. > :30:18.quickest serve so far. Didn't really do up this with the
:30:19. > :30:22.first volley. They dug it into the surface too much. Allowed Mirnyi to
:30:23. > :30:35.play on forehand and from there it was going to be difficult for Rae.
:30:36. > :30:44.Good serve out wide. Moving away, a big lefty swinger from Kent Skupski
:30:45. > :30:49.That was only 86mph. That shows what you can do with that.
:30:50. > :31:13.Lots of chat ever between the players on both side of the court
:31:14. > :31:19.before they line up for the next game. It will be Makarova's service
:31:20. > :31:53.game now. Dropped in the crowd I'm afraid.
:31:54. > :32:02.Hence the groans. Catching hasn't been great this Wimbledon.
:32:03. > :32:12.Must be the heat. Good serving this game from
:32:13. > :32:16.Makarova. Yes, 103mph on the serve. Gave them
:32:17. > :32:22.the early advantage in the point. It was deep into the box too, so not a
:32:23. > :32:26.lot of time for Rae to get that one out in front. Good hand skills from
:32:27. > :32:44.Skupski, with the long levers all over the net again.
:32:45. > :33:21.Tightly matched here in this second set, third game, going to Mirnyi and
:33:22. > :33:27.Makarova. It's a fine evening above London. We can take a little look
:33:28. > :33:34.outside. Powerful lens across to some of the landmark, you can see
:33:35. > :33:38.the London Eye and the shard. So-called Walkie-talkie which I
:33:39. > :33:42.think is officially called 20 Fenchurch Street or something like
:33:43. > :33:48.that. Panning across the lake in Wimbledon park and the disputed golf
:33:49. > :33:54.club. Will it be extended or will the club pay them off? It is all to
:33:55. > :33:58.be discussed and there is Henman Hill, a little depleted in numbers
:33:59. > :34:00.now. But still plenty of people out there watching the big screen, which
:34:01. > :34:14.is on the side of Court Number One. Now they have seen themselveses on
:34:15. > :34:25.the hill, that is the view from, our camera just above the pond.
:34:26. > :34:30.Lots of excitement out there, they have had a good day despite the lack
:34:31. > :34:36.of success for Andy Murray. Maybe Skupski and Rae can restore the
:34:37. > :34:42.British success rate here today. Rae to serve, 1-2.
:34:43. > :34:52.How's that lob somebody in oh, perfect.
:34:53. > :34:56.Good footwork from Rae and excellent racket head control, too.
:34:57. > :34:58.Got herself back behind the ball with time and brushing up the back
:34:59. > :35:15.of the ball to generate top-spin. Slightly tangled up with her feet
:35:16. > :35:19.there, Makarova. She is going forward for the return with the body
:35:20. > :35:21.weight and Skupski with a good deep volley. Turning backwards very
:35:22. > :35:40.quickly. Lob return of serve.
:35:41. > :35:54.That shot, for my, it is one of the toughest shots to execute in sport.
:35:55. > :35:58.The chipped lob volley return. Did that one beautifully, did the bell
:35:59. > :36:06.Russian. Right down the line for a winner.
:36:07. > :36:10.Taking her chances there, Makarova. This was a sweet strike, talked
:36:11. > :36:13.about her getting her body weight forward and her previous return, you
:36:14. > :36:54.can see she is going forward again, almost a full swing.
:36:55. > :37:01.She's done it again. Twice in the game.
:37:02. > :37:06.This one was tougher, on the backhand side so it is harder to
:37:07. > :37:11.pass here. Percentage serve from Rae down the tee, not a lot of space
:37:12. > :37:28.there to get it past Skupski but she found it.
:37:29. > :37:39.Rae getting plenty of power op these serves, 107mph, that delivery.
:37:40. > :37:52.Just a little quicker than her opposite number.
:37:53. > :37:58.So well there, Rae to keep cons train, it looked like Skupski was
:37:59. > :38:06.going to take that first volley. Great focus from the 26-year-old. --
:38:07. > :38:13.concentration. He is the oldest player on court at
:38:14. > :38:17.40. He used to be known as the beast of Belarus, more for his size than
:38:18. > :38:29.anythingel. Not quite so beastly these days.
:38:30. > :38:35.As he approaches middle age. Ball thats for Max Mirnyi. Two fames
:38:36. > :38:41.all and they lead by a set to love. -- games all. Right past the
:38:42. > :38:46.outstretched arm of Makarova. That is a delightful return of receive
:38:47. > :38:51.from Jocelyn Rae. She has got better and better as it continues, angle
:38:52. > :39:15.her body to create the angle. Wonderfully controlled.
:39:16. > :39:25.Doing a great job of making it tough Makarova and Mirnyi.
:39:26. > :39:30.An hour of play. Good entertainment. A decent number
:39:31. > :39:33.of spectators inside number one court.
:39:34. > :39:40.Miles an hour in a bit of bother here, love 30.
:39:41. > :39:44.118mph, down the centre with the ace. It was him that was broken out
:39:45. > :40:08.of the duo in the first set. Two break points for the British
:40:09. > :40:31.pair t wildcards into the mixed doubles draw.
:40:32. > :40:38.Took the pace off the ball there with that serve, Max Mirnyi and then
:40:39. > :41:23.swerved away from Jocelyn Rae. The rain of yesterday has
:41:24. > :41:27.disappeared. It has been bright and clear for the men's quarterfinals in
:41:28. > :41:34.which there were three of the Big Four in action. Safe to say it has
:41:35. > :41:41.been a topsy-turvy day, we will have much to discuss in the company of
:41:42. > :41:51.Boris Becker and John McEnroe. Join me from 8 on BBC Two.
:41:52. > :41:55.So the early break in the second set to Skupski and Jocelyn Rae from
:41:56. > :41:59.Great Britain. Who would have thought it would be
:42:00. > :42:05.miles an hour they have broken twice in this one.
:42:06. > :42:12.-- Mirnyi they have broken twice in this one.
:42:13. > :42:16.An hour and three minutes played. Skupski will hope to consolidate
:42:17. > :43:01.that break of serve now. 3-2. Two or three teemses this this match
:43:02. > :43:05.now Skupski has produced a moment of brilliance and this was one of
:43:06. > :43:09.those. This was out of this world. Look at the hand skill, he is almost
:43:10. > :43:12.leaning away but still able to control it.
:43:13. > :43:56.Great balance. Rapid fire, service hold from Ken
:43:57. > :44:08.Skupski. Four games to two. He is thriving out there.
:44:09. > :44:10.Well, the British pair clear favourites now to take this second
:44:11. > :44:35.set. Can they break Makarova? What a shot from Jocelyn Rae? It's
:44:36. > :44:43.all been about Skupski for the last ten minuteses or so but Rae getting
:44:44. > :45:08.in on the action. Mirnyi did not expect thisment.
:45:09. > :45:11.Or so but Rae getting in on the action.
:45:12. > :45:15.Mirnyi did not expect this.. Mirnyi's pride taking a beating. He
:45:16. > :45:17.has been found out time and time again. Down the line for a winner.
:45:18. > :45:50.Beautiful stroke. About Skupski for the last ten
:45:51. > :45:51.minutes or so but Rae getting in on the action.
:45:52. > :45:54.Mirnyi did not expect this.. Mirnyi's pride taking a beating. He
:45:55. > :45:56.has been found out time and time again. Down the line for a winner.
:45:57. > :45:57.Beautiful stroke. Neighbour plaster has come off his
:45:58. > :46:09.heel and moved into his sock. Took its time but it did find the
:46:10. > :46:31.service box. He hasn't missed much, Skupski.
:46:32. > :46:45.Maybe got bait overexcited on that forehand.
:46:46. > :47:09.Encouragement from Ken Skupski to Jocelyn Rae. Second serve from
:47:10. > :47:14.Makarova. Is She's put it away, well played.
:47:15. > :47:44.Another break point. It is just inside. That is a great
:47:45. > :47:48.shot from the Russian. Rae was predicting that Makarova was
:47:49. > :47:51.going to go up the line here, so this has to be oh so tight to the
:47:52. > :48:19.line. It was exactly that. Skupski was running himself ragged.
:48:20. > :48:25.Premet Taited move. In the end it backfired because it put Rae off. --
:48:26. > :48:30.premeditated. The winner of this match will play Jamie Murray and
:48:31. > :48:32.Martina Hingis in the quarterfinals. That would be quite a line up, if it
:48:33. > :48:42.is Rae and Skupski in particular. Makarova, despite being in trouble
:48:43. > :48:47.on that service game has hell it together, following the change of
:48:48. > :48:55.end, Jocelyn Rae will serve for a 5-3 lead.
:48:56. > :49:02.They are experienced these two, when you look at what they have done in
:49:03. > :49:06.Grand Slam tennis, ten Grand Slams to miles an hour's names. He won the
:49:07. > :49:12.mixed here with Serena Williams back in 1998.
:49:13. > :49:18.Makarova has won two women's doubles titles. In the Grand Slams. Never
:49:19. > :49:25.here in Wimbledon though. Did win the mixed at the US Open, Bruno
:49:26. > :49:29.Suarez back in 2012. So it was going to be a big ask for Rae and Skupski
:49:30. > :49:43.being the wildcards, but you have to say they have done a brilliant job.
:49:44. > :49:52.It hasn't looked like the pair... They have raised their game on Court
:49:53. > :49:55.One. British pair's connections sits
:49:56. > :50:05.above the score board there, can they take it along and win this
:50:06. > :50:10.second set, 4-3 in front. At the moment very few unforced
:50:11. > :50:14.errors coming from Skupski and Rae. They are playing the percentages and
:50:15. > :50:17.playing really solid doubles. There has been a couple of flashy shots in
:50:18. > :51:21.there too. Giving very little away. That was a decent return right at
:51:22. > :51:23.the feet of Jocelyn Rae. A long way down, he is -- she is
:51:24. > :51:41.tall. Taller than Ken. First set is important for Rae. Now
:51:42. > :51:55.Skupski dictates and dominates at the net.
:51:56. > :52:06.Max Mirnyi is really having an off day with the service return.
:52:07. > :52:11.Weave not seen very much in the way of spectacular from the bell Russian
:52:12. > :52:14.here tonight. He has been broken. Hope to break him again now, and
:52:15. > :52:52.take this second set. 3-5. Belarussian here tonight. He has
:52:53. > :52:55.been broken. Hope to break him again now, and take this second set. 3-5.
:52:56. > :52:58.A great move by Skupski, wanting to get forward, wanting to get on top
:52:59. > :53:01.of the point. These are the type of misses you
:53:02. > :53:26.don't mind, if you are doing the right thing.
:53:27. > :53:30.Ian here tonight. He has been broken. Hope to break him again now,
:53:31. > :53:32.and take this second set. 3-5. A great move by Skupski, wanting to
:53:33. > :53:34.get forward, wanting to get on top of the point.
:53:35. > :53:36.These are the type of misses you don't mind, if you are doing the
:53:37. > :54:12.right thing. That the best service game Max
:54:13. > :54:15.Mirnyi has thrown in for a while. After this break, change of ends
:54:16. > :54:19.Italy be Ken Skupski attempting to serve it out and take to us a third
:54:20. > :54:30.and final set. -- it will be.
:54:31. > :54:35.Tactical discussions going on, what is characterised their performance
:54:36. > :54:38.has opinion their sheer enjoyment of being out here, there has been lots
:54:39. > :54:42.of smiling and laughter. It is about trying to get the right balance. You
:54:43. > :54:47.want to have fun and as you can see, they are in a lot of discussion. You
:54:48. > :54:51.want to stay relax. You want to stay loose. You also want to enjoy the
:54:52. > :54:57.moment, as I said before, it is no often these will will get the chance
:54:58. > :55:01.to play on such a great court. You have to stay focussed and focus on
:55:02. > :55:05.the job in hand. I am sure they are discussing a few bits and pieces
:55:06. > :55:09.here. Skupski has been excellent on serve
:55:10. > :55:15.so far, but as we same Mirnyi came out to serve it out at 5-4 and got a
:55:16. > :55:20.little shaky. I am sure the British fans will be hoping that is not the
:55:21. > :55:34.case with Skupski this time round, in the second set.
:55:35. > :56:20.Younger brother Neil in the stands. Ken, serving for the set.
:56:21. > :56:38.A bold second. That was quicker than his first serve.
:56:39. > :56:47.That one kicked off the line, a big puff of white.
:56:48. > :56:58.It grips it a bit, you often see players swing early. That is what
:56:59. > :57:00.happened with Mirnyi there. Here are two set points for Skupski
:57:01. > :58:03.and Rae. So we are tied at one set all. We do
:58:04. > :58:07.have to Leigh it. If you want to continue watching it is the featured
:58:08. > :58:13.match on the Red Button and Claire will update the result in Today At
:58:14. > :58:19.Wimbledon. It has been a dramatic day, but looking ahead to tomorrow,
:58:20. > :58:23.lady's semifinals day. Muguruza versus Rybarikova and the five time
:58:24. > :58:27.champion Venus Williams up against Johanna Konta who has not looked as
:58:28. > :58:30.though she is a player shouldering the burden of expectation then a
:58:31. > :58:35.lovely mixed doubles match to look forward to as well. That is
:58:36. > :58:39.tomorrow, we will be on the air at 12.30 on BBC Two, but stay tuned,
:58:40. > :58:41.because today at Wimbledon is next and there is is a lot to discuss.
:58:42. > :58:43.Bye.
