0:00:38 > 0:00:41Hello and welcome to Day 11 of the Winter Olympics and there's

0:00:41 > 0:00:48plenty more ice and snow to come from these Games.

0:00:48 > 0:00:55That was beautiful. She is light years ahead of everyone else.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Later in the programme we'll see how Great Britain's Rowan Cheshire

0:01:10 > 0:01:12gets on in the final of the women's ski halfpipe.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15But first it's the conclusion of the ice dance.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19Yesterday we saw Britain's Penny Coombes and Nick Buckland

0:01:19 > 0:01:22finish tenth after the short programme.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24A remarkable achievement, given then 20 months ago, Penny

0:01:24 > 0:01:30was told she would never skate again after a training accident.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32Kat Downes and Robin Cousins can talk us through

0:01:32 > 0:01:39the free dance.

0:01:39 > 0:01:44Welcome to medal day, once again, skating fans this is the eye stands

0:01:44 > 0:01:48free dance at the Gangneung Ice Arena and we will see gold, silver

0:01:48 > 0:01:53and bronze handed out in this final day of the Olympic competition. Just

0:01:53 > 0:01:59over quite minutes in this Olympic journey will be over for Nick and

0:01:59 > 0:02:04Penny. From a shattered kneecap through 20 months of recovery to

0:02:04 > 0:02:08today, tenth place at the moment, Nick and Penny looking to push up

0:02:08 > 0:02:09the leaderboard, and they need to be perfect.

0:05:35 > 0:05:51And that was the lift. How is it looking, Robin? So far, so good.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25The ultimate story of grit and the termination has a happy ending out

0:06:25 > 0:06:31on the ice for now at least. It might not be a medal for Nick and

0:06:31 > 0:06:36Penny but this will mean more to them than precious metal. Just

0:06:36 > 0:06:41seeing out there skating together, and at an Olympics. Robin, look at

0:06:41 > 0:06:45the computer, what can you see? Diagonal sequence level four,

0:06:45 > 0:06:51straight-line lift, synchronised twizzle is, but they shall live,

0:06:51 > 0:06:55four, circular step, level three, curved left, level four, we are

0:06:55 > 0:07:04seeing positive GOEs across-the-board. And that second

0:07:04 > 0:07:10turn of the twizzle, brought back up.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14up.Wimbledon 1.96, keeping them behind Kimi -- the Canadians. They

0:07:14 > 0:07:18are in third place at the moment and so desperate to finish in the top

0:07:18 > 0:07:25ten. These two, very much in the battle, particularly for the bronze

0:07:25 > 0:07:28medal position at the moment. Who knows Chris macro they could go even

0:07:28 > 0:07:35better. Just two one hundredths of a point between Maia Shibutani and

0:07:35 > 0:07:43Alex Shibutani and their countrymen Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donahue.

0:07:43 > 0:07:52The rivalry in Team USA is heating up.

0:08:05 > 0:08:11Maia and Alex hoping that John Chang 2018 is their paradise. -- that

0:08:11 > 0:08:13Pyeongchang.

0:09:42 > 0:09:51Very smooth from the step sequins and into the straight-line left.

0:09:51 > 0:09:52and into the straight-line left. -- step sequence.

0:10:26 > 0:10:35Perfection through the twizzles. They are so precise with their feet.

0:11:53 > 0:11:58CHEERING

0:12:00 > 0:12:03It is signature Shibutami, clean, correct, precise, the performance of

0:12:03 > 0:12:07this games from them. They already have our bronze medal in the bag

0:12:07 > 0:12:11from the team event and that looks very much like a medal winning

0:12:11 > 0:12:16performance from me.That was the best I've seen them. They are so

0:12:16 > 0:12:20precise technically, always consistent, but sometimes it's just

0:12:20 > 0:12:26lacking the joy or some emotion and you could see individually they were

0:12:26 > 0:12:30both loving that moment of being on the ice, and that's what I need to

0:12:30 > 0:12:34see, that's what I haven't had from them that often. It's almost been

0:12:34 > 0:12:41very, almost clinical, for me.

0:12:41 > 0:12:44very, almost clinical, for me.We have new leaders, just as we

0:12:44 > 0:12:56expected, and that will pile the pressure on Hubbell and Donahue. The

0:12:56 > 0:13:06Shibutami 's have really gone for it here. And now the European --

0:13:06 > 0:13:08reigning European champions, Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume

0:13:08 > 0:13:12Cizeron. They are less than two points behind Tessa Virtue and Scott

0:13:12 > 0:13:19Moir, who lead the way. That wardrobe malfunction, her dress

0:13:19 > 0:13:22falling off during a performance yesterday really knocked them, but

0:13:22 > 0:13:29still, less than one point in it.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07APPLAUSE

0:15:24 > 0:15:27APPLAUSE

0:16:58 > 0:17:01APPLAUSE

0:17:26 > 0:17:29APPLAUSE

0:17:36 > 0:17:42It is silky, smooth, sublime from the off. It was billed as a battle

0:17:42 > 0:17:50for gold between them and their training partners, Scott Moir and

0:17:50 > 0:17:51Tessa Virtue.

0:17:56 > 0:18:00Exquisite to watch them skate. Individually, strong skaters,

0:18:00 > 0:18:04together, it is special. That is what happens, the music starts and

0:18:04 > 0:18:09then you will see. It is the detail for me, even the way the fingers

0:18:09 > 0:18:11intertwined the opening move. It draws you in and commands your

0:18:11 > 0:18:18attention. So musical. They feel every moment that they are together.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21There is that connection.

0:18:28 > 0:18:37A new season's best, a new world record. 123.35. And it is going to

0:18:37 > 0:18:43be a very, very, very big ask for Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, to

0:18:43 > 0:18:51claim their second Olympic title. Tessa and Scott, just one bubble

0:18:51 > 0:18:55away. They will skate last, desperately trying to save their

0:18:55 > 0:19:00gold medal chances. But Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donahue

0:19:00 > 0:19:07currently sit in the bronze medal position. They saw that performance,

0:19:07 > 0:19:10and they will need to be brilliant if they want to go home in the

0:19:10 > 0:19:12medals.

0:23:30 > 0:23:34It was fabulous and dramatic, but putting your hands down on the ice

0:23:34 > 0:23:37makes an instant one point deduction, because it was considered

0:23:37 > 0:23:44a fall. I have written a note, there is never anything tentative about

0:23:44 > 0:23:50these two when they hit the ice, it is gangbusters of a quality. And

0:23:50 > 0:23:54they wanted to make that happen there. There was no room for error

0:23:54 > 0:23:58at all in that programme if they wanted to beat Alex and Maia

0:23:58 > 0:24:09Shibutani. That is going to be a problem.

0:24:09 > 0:24:18It is 109.94. So, they slot into third place, with Tessa Virtue and

0:24:18 > 0:24:25Scott Moir yet to skate. It is that heartbreaking, agonising, fourth

0:24:25 > 0:24:32position for Madison and Zachary.

0:24:33 > 0:24:37Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the world champions, the 2010 Olympic

0:24:37 > 0:24:41champions. In the gold medal position, coming into this free

0:24:41 > 0:24:46dance. But they are going to be extraordinary if they want to win

0:24:46 > 0:24:50this gold medal. They are going to need to beat the new world record,

0:24:50 > 0:24:56laid down by Gabriella

0:24:56 > 0:24:58laid down by Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, just two routines

0:24:58 > 0:25:00ago.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08APPLAUSE

0:28:31 > 0:28:33APPLAUSE

0:28:56 > 0:29:02APPLAUSE

0:29:02 > 0:29:09It is brilliant! But is it enough? Enough for Olympic gold for the

0:29:09 > 0:29:14world champions from Canada?Well, they wanted to deliver and they

0:29:14 > 0:29:21certainly did. I tell you, I am looking at the screens, trying to do

0:29:21 > 0:29:28the maths. It is tight at the top. Goodness me.They know they could

0:29:28 > 0:29:36not have done any more. Virtue and Moir had no wriggle room, there was

0:29:36 > 0:29:41nothing for them to play with, they couldn't leave anything on the ice.

0:29:41 > 0:29:48And they didn't, they absolutely smashed it.

0:29:48 > 0:29:55They've done it! 122.40, the comeback kid is complete for Tessa

0:29:55 > 0:30:00Virtue and Scott Moir, silver in Sochi four years ago, they tucked

0:30:00 > 0:30:05two years away from competition and returned to win World Championship

0:30:05 > 0:30:16gold last year, and now it is Olympic gold, too!

0:30:16 > 0:30:22Phenomenal, amazing champions, amazing performance. Yes, very

0:30:22 > 0:30:25different to Papadakis and Cizeron. That silver medal is well-deserved.

0:30:25 > 0:30:31But these two are supreme.

0:30:33 > 0:30:37Confirmation that they are the Olympic champions for a second time,

0:30:37 > 0:30:42adding gold here in Pyeongchang to the gold they took in 2010 in

0:30:42 > 0:30:45Vancouver. Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron second for silver,

0:30:45 > 0:30:51remarkable skating from them and Alex Shibutani and Maia Shibutani

0:30:51 > 0:30:56finding something extra when it counted to take bronze for Team USA.

0:30:56 > 0:31:02Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland just missing out on a top ten finish, a

0:31:02 > 0:31:06bittersweet moment for them, they hope to be in the top ten but a

0:31:06 > 0:31:09brilliant skate from them, they did everything they could, and great to

0:31:09 > 0:31:12see them performing out on Olympic ice for a third time.

0:31:12 > 0:31:14see them performing out on Olympic ice for a third time.I don't think

0:31:14 > 0:31:20we could have skated any better. With the pressure mounting, we took

0:31:20 > 0:31:27to the ice and said, let's skate for us, we deserve this already. And you

0:31:27 > 0:31:32went into that final programme knowing you needed a massive

0:31:32 > 0:31:37performance to beat a world-record score.We train with them, so we

0:31:37 > 0:31:40knew what to expect, but we didn't know they had posted a world-record

0:31:40 > 0:31:46score. But you could put their house on it, for sure, that they would.

0:31:46 > 0:31:49And we had to come out and have our skate, and we felt like we did that.

0:31:49 > 0:31:55That's what we are most proud of. Things pan out different ways in

0:31:55 > 0:31:58sport but we stuck to our plan and we proud to come out this

0:31:58 > 0:32:03competition with a gold medal. We did everything we could today, and

0:32:03 > 0:32:09we can be very proud.When you do a world-record performance and you

0:32:09 > 0:32:19still don't get the gold, what do you feel about that?Years, you

0:32:19 > 0:32:25know, sometimes it's just like that. You know? But what is done is done,

0:32:25 > 0:32:30the points are what they are, we are just really proud of what we did

0:32:30 > 0:32:35today. We had such a good feeling on the ice. It was one of the most

0:32:35 > 0:32:39incredible experiences I've ever had.Four years ago, ninth, and now

0:32:39 > 0:32:45a bronze medal.Describe the difference. We have changed so much

0:32:45 > 0:32:47since the first Olympics. We have just been training, training,

0:32:47 > 0:32:53training. So to put out a programme like that badly can be so proud of,

0:32:53 > 0:32:58it feels amazing. So many sleepless nights, so much dreaming and work

0:32:58 > 0:33:03and never-ending belief in ourselves got here. I am so happy to be back.

0:33:03 > 0:33:08I really enjoyed myself. The audience were great. It felt like a

0:33:08 > 0:33:12great skate, I felt like we gave it everything, and the scorer was very

0:33:12 > 0:33:16disappointing for us, because that's not what we came here to do.

0:33:16 > 0:33:19Sometimes the score can dampen your feelings about the performance. I

0:33:19 > 0:33:22was trying to remember how we felt when we were performing and after we

0:33:22 > 0:33:26finished, that is the most important thing. We felt like we did a great

0:33:26 > 0:33:30job and performed that programme as well as we wanted to, today, so we

0:33:30 > 0:33:35got to try and remember that. Celebration still going on down on

0:33:35 > 0:33:40the ice, I can see Tessa and Scott wrapped in the Maple Leaf flag. What

0:33:40 > 0:33:46a way to win the Olympic title, there was nothing in it, they needed

0:33:46 > 0:33:51pure brilliance. They did, and they delivered it. The French had come

0:33:51 > 0:33:55out and been stunning, broken their own world record, set down the

0:33:55 > 0:33:59gauntlet, and the Canadians came out absolutely serenely and started with

0:33:59 > 0:34:04such composure. There was no tension, nothing, and it was

0:34:04 > 0:34:10absolutely glorious. This is what they came back with. They got silver

0:34:10 > 0:34:14in Sochi, they took two years away from competition, they were putting

0:34:14 > 0:34:18in all the hard work, and they won the World Championship last year.

0:34:18 > 0:34:24This is what they wanted, this 2018 gold Medal.Absolutely, they did.

0:34:24 > 0:34:28You read about the reasons they want to do, they love skating, they said

0:34:28 > 0:34:32that we don't want to stop but we missed that competition element.

0:34:32 > 0:34:37They had asked the Canadian skating federation, can we move to drain

0:34:37 > 0:34:42that these people in Montreal, and they said no, so they said, OK, we

0:34:42 > 0:34:47are done with it, it didn't work after Sochi. Then they said we are

0:34:47 > 0:34:51coming back, we are moving to Montreal, we will train the

0:34:51 > 0:34:54Papadakis and Cizeron, and we will make it happen. And goodness me,

0:34:54 > 0:35:00they did today. What was lovely to see those couples hugging it out on

0:35:00 > 0:35:03the ice. Of course there will be disappointment for the French team,

0:35:03 > 0:35:08but they do know that on the day, the Canadians were better. And we've

0:35:08 > 0:35:13got to mention Penny and Nick as well, a bittersweet end to their

0:35:13 > 0:35:17incredible Olympic journey, if we can use that word, 20 months of

0:35:17 > 0:35:21recovery and hope and despair and finally getting it, 11 and in the

0:35:21 > 0:35:24end, but they were happy with their performance and that is what

0:35:24 > 0:35:30matters.As we said on air, you can only worry about what you can do,

0:35:30 > 0:35:33skating rice, to deliver the elements, then it is down to their

0:35:33 > 0:35:38technical panel to give you the level. They got the level fours,

0:35:38 > 0:35:42they did what they could, they didn't get the component scores and

0:35:42 > 0:35:45grade of execution for individuals that they would have liked, but you

0:35:45 > 0:35:50have to come off the ice and go, we didn't know a year run a half ago

0:35:50 > 0:35:54that we would even be here, let alone step on the ice to compete.

0:35:54 > 0:35:58I'm so proud of what they have accomplished. Is it what they would

0:35:58 > 0:36:02have liked to have walked away from today? Absolutely not. I defy

0:36:02 > 0:36:09anybody to do what they did, and to do better. You can only control what

0:36:09 > 0:36:13is controllable, as Nick said, but Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are the

0:36:13 > 0:36:23Olympic champions. What a comeback, and what a story.

0:36:23 > 0:36:26And we'll have highlights of the final figure skating event

0:36:26 > 0:36:29of these Games as the Women take to the ice in the short

0:36:29 > 0:36:30programme on Thursday.

0:36:30 > 0:36:32Back up the mountain to the ski halfpipe

0:36:32 > 0:36:35and Great Britain's Rowan Cheshire was in action in the final.

0:36:35 > 0:36:38he's been speaking to Ed Leigh.

0:36:39 > 0:36:41I was really confident about my skiing and my fitness,

0:36:41 > 0:36:44going into it really happy.

0:36:44 > 0:36:46I don't member the crash actually happening.

0:36:46 > 0:36:49I don't remember the hospital anything, it is only in the morning

0:36:49 > 0:36:57that I have any recollection.

0:36:58 > 0:37:00When you knock yourself out, like a concussion, you can't

0:37:00 > 0:37:01remember, it is a bit scary

0:37:01 > 0:37:04when you don't know what you have done, you can't think

0:37:04 > 0:37:06about how you will fix it or how you

0:37:06 > 0:37:07stop it from happening again.

0:37:07 > 0:37:10That was the first of three concussions, in February 2014.

0:37:10 > 0:37:18What was the timeline?

0:37:19 > 0:37:22After that one, I went away in October time to Saas Fee,

0:37:22 > 0:37:25I think it was, and then I ended up hitting my head again.

0:37:25 > 0:37:28And then, again, the following year in the same place.

0:37:28 > 0:37:30The third one was when it really kind of hit me,

0:37:30 > 0:37:32it was very scary how I reacted to that with

0:37:32 > 0:37:35the concussion and stuff.

0:37:35 > 0:37:37Did you feel yourself changing, in the way

0:37:37 > 0:37:42you dealt with situations?

0:37:42 > 0:37:47Definitely, like normal things, as in travelling,

0:37:47 > 0:37:51I wouldn't travel by myself, something I am totally used

0:37:51 > 0:37:54to and have done for years, it gave me a lot of anxiety

0:37:54 > 0:37:56to do normal daily things, and you just get overly emotional

0:37:56 > 0:38:02about situations that you wouldn't normally.

0:38:02 > 0:38:04Very not with it, kind of just not there, yeah.

0:38:04 > 0:38:08A lot of people with concussions, they do go through those kind

0:38:08 > 0:38:11of things, and it is kind of tough mentally to think,

0:38:11 > 0:38:12why am I feeling like this?

0:38:12 > 0:38:15Am I the only one feeling like this?

0:38:15 > 0:38:17It is very hard.

0:38:17 > 0:38:20So the reassurance that you are not the only one and it does

0:38:20 > 0:38:22get better with time, it does take a while

0:38:22 > 0:38:24to heal itself, really.

0:38:24 > 0:38:27You are still very young, but the experiences of the last

0:38:27 > 0:38:29three and a half years, has it changed your

0:38:29 > 0:38:32enjoyment of skiing?

0:38:32 > 0:38:36It did, like it really did.

0:38:36 > 0:38:40I remember, I told my dad I didn't want to do it any more,

0:38:40 > 0:38:44and I burst out crying, because I was so sad about it.

0:38:44 > 0:38:49I clearly don't want to quit if I am going to be that sad about it,

0:38:49 > 0:38:51when you have the fear of a tap to your head,

0:38:51 > 0:38:58it does take away the fun a bit.

0:38:58 > 0:39:01So finding the enjoyment and getting the adrenaline back

0:39:01 > 0:39:02was a big thing for me.

0:39:02 > 0:39:04It is there now, it is very obvious.

0:39:04 > 0:39:07Definitely, I am enjoying it so much now.

0:39:07 > 0:39:13Looking to Pyeongchang, what are your expectations?

0:39:13 > 0:39:15I would really like a medal.

0:39:15 > 0:39:18That is one of my goals,

0:39:18 > 0:39:22I am just going to come and see how it goes, not trying to think

0:39:22 > 0:39:25about it too much, to be honest, hopefully it will come together,

0:39:25 > 0:39:32and you never know.

0:39:32 > 0:39:36Great Britain's Rowan Cheshire. Sat next to me is the man of the moment

0:39:36 > 0:39:38from ski slope yesterday, James

0:39:38 > 0:39:38next to me is the man of the moment from ski slope yesterday, James

0:39:38 > 0:39:47Woods. How's it going?Good to have you with us. This is banging, best

0:39:47 > 0:39:52seat in the house!Rowan, battling back from that horrendous concussion

0:39:52 > 0:39:57in Sochi, but she has made it to the Olympics and she's about to drop in

0:39:57 > 0:40:04for the first time.Just needs to put down a solid scorer on the board

0:40:04 > 0:40:09here. Nice big alley-oop, best amplitude that we have seen so far,

0:40:09 > 0:40:22into the nine. Solid five. Into the seven. Now, it's the switch

0:40:22 > 0:40:27alley-oop.

0:40:27 > 0:40:33alley-oop.Lovely, great first run. Definitely got the most amplitude

0:40:33 > 0:40:39that we have seen so far. And she's got a nine in there, so she has

0:40:39 > 0:40:43upped the difficulty that we have seen from any of the previous runs.

0:40:43 > 0:40:5375.4. She slots on behind

0:40:53 > 0:40:5875.4. She slots on behind the Russian, Demidova. Brita Sigourney

0:40:58 > 0:41:04leads the World Cup standings. Me coming into this from an outside

0:41:04 > 0:41:09perspective, but with a good bit of inside knowledge on the halfpipe

0:41:09 > 0:41:13scene, this, for me, this is the battle between Cassie Sharpe and

0:41:13 > 0:41:21professor Gony for this win. And Brita has gone big, huge. That

0:41:21 > 0:41:25alley-oop 540, with so much travel. That this technical difficulty in a

0:41:25 > 0:41:34nutshell.To rotate up the pipe, then to travel that far down it.

0:41:34 > 0:41:40Exactly,.I got the shivers, then. It is shimmering, turn it down, turn

0:41:40 > 0:41:46the gas down. It is going to catch you in a minute. It is already

0:41:46 > 0:41:54caught. I am a newbie any but I am already caught, as far as I'm

0:41:54 > 0:42:05concerned.Look at that the 390s only pulled down by that 89. It is

0:42:05 > 0:42:10very difficult, the judging and the points thing, but the essence of it

0:42:10 > 0:42:15is to look at the placings. The score is just a little message from

0:42:15 > 0:42:21the judges to the riders, more than anything. 89.8. That's telling me

0:42:21 > 0:42:27that the judges are telling Brita, get those grabs, and get them well

0:42:27 > 0:42:32up there into the 90s.Marie Martinod has got her first run, the

0:42:32 > 0:42:3833-year-old mother of one. Defying the mantra of action sports and

0:42:38 > 0:42:42absolutely slaying it in the pipe. They are known as youth sports, but

0:42:42 > 0:42:48they have been coming-of-age over the last three decades. And age is

0:42:48 > 0:42:51just a number for Marie Martinod. Great first run from the

0:42:51 > 0:43:03Frenchwoman.Silver medallist from Sochi, skis out of our plan, -- of

0:43:03 > 0:43:14La Plagnes.Ed loves the logo from La Plagnes.

0:43:14 > 0:43:17La Plagnes.Oh, well, we said it. She skis Calabro, she takes the

0:43:17 > 0:43:21boxes, she does exactly what the judges want to see. -- she skis

0:43:21 > 0:43:29clever.Cassie Sharpe coming out of Vancouver Island BC, her brother

0:43:29 > 0:43:33took a silver at the X Games and snowboard slope, and wasn't brought

0:43:33 > 0:43:37here, so the sharp family very happy to have at least one member in

0:43:37 > 0:43:42there.

0:43:44 > 0:43:48there.She qualified in first place. You can see how clean and

0:43:48 > 0:43:51confidently she comes through the pipe, and she is taking the boxes

0:43:51 > 0:43:56for the judges. Massive truck driver, there.Beautiful, beautiful

0:43:56 > 0:44:02last trick. You can not have rolled a bowling ball any smoother than

0:44:02 > 0:44:09that! Just hit the transition. Fantastic run from Cassie, both

0:44:09 > 0:44:15nines, lots of switches, two big straight air, with solid, consistent

0:44:15 > 0:44:26grabs. Some amazing skiing. The last woman to drop in the first run of

0:44:26 > 0:44:30the women's ski halfpipe finals is Cassie Sharpe, and she takes the

0:44:30 > 0:44:38lead with a 94.4. Cassie Sharpe, 94.4, chased closely by Marie

0:44:38 > 0:44:43Martinod and Brita Sigourney, Annalisa Drew, in fourth, with Rowan

0:44:43 > 0:44:48Cheshire making it into the top six after run one, so she has crept up a

0:44:48 > 0:44:54couple places.

0:44:55 > 0:44:58Rowan Cheshire of Great Britain. She has already done so much by getting

0:44:58 > 0:45:10here. Can I say bad-ass? I probably can't.But she is!I learned to ski

0:45:10 > 0:45:14at the Stoke dry slope, where she did.I can tell you another

0:45:14 > 0:45:20interesting fact, Rowan Cheshire taught Sarah Hoefflin 270s off the

0:45:20 > 0:45:26rails.

0:45:26 > 0:45:31rails.Technical wise, this is pretty much flawless so far. You can

0:45:31 > 0:45:35see, coming out of the 900 on her third hit, going into the 540, she

0:45:35 > 0:45:40had a scuffed on the bottom. Unfortunately, she went down on the

0:45:40 > 0:45:49right side 540. A less easy way of spelling.

0:45:49 > 0:45:54Marie Martinod, the fantastic Alpine themed pants from the 70s.I love

0:45:54 > 0:46:00that, she looks good.Lovely start. Starting to up the technicality of

0:46:00 > 0:46:05the second. You can see how confident she is feeling, after

0:46:05 > 0:46:16landing that first run. The speed is there. Final hate... Flair to ten?

0:46:16 > 0:46:22-- final

0:46:22 > 0:46:26-- final hit. The 33-year-old mother of one, absolutely destroying it

0:46:26 > 0:46:33here at Phoenix Park. She has just backed the judges into a serious

0:46:33 > 0:46:40corner.

0:46:40 > 0:46:47My goodness! Not what we thought!I thought it was going to be more than

0:46:47 > 0:46:54that.I thought it was going to be more, too.

0:46:55 > 0:47:02more, too.What about Cassie Sharpe? I don't know, man!They haven't put

0:47:02 > 0:47:06in much space to put somebody between. Look at this, Cassie is

0:47:06 > 0:47:12running the game right now. She is there, and she is definitely the

0:47:12 > 0:47:16favourite to win. She is in the lead already and she is going to have to

0:47:16 > 0:47:22do seriously well.Penultimate run, already in the lead. A big spin, the

0:47:22 > 0:47:34first hit.Solid grab, into the flair.How relaxed was that?360,

0:47:34 > 0:47:39Switch. Down the pipe, 360. Now, needs to... There is the truck

0:47:39 > 0:47:46driver. Really nice. Finally finishing off with a bang. Oh, my

0:47:46 > 0:47:56days!

0:47:57 > 0:48:01Nine to nine to start with, and then the finish. I think that is the run

0:48:01 > 0:48:10that she wanted in her dreams. Just booted herself out of of place, I

0:48:10 > 0:48:18reckon. Straight through the net, 95.8. It is an improvement. And on

0:48:18 > 0:48:21the buzzer, Cassie Sharpe, I think, has put it out of reach for

0:48:21 > 0:48:26everybody else. There are the standings after the second run.

0:48:26 > 0:48:34Cassie Sharpe, with 95.8.

0:48:41 > 0:48:45OK, Rowan Cheshire from Great Britain, dropping in for her third

0:48:45 > 0:48:48and final run. Currently in seventh position. She has the tools to

0:48:48 > 0:48:55improve.

0:48:55 > 0:48:58Third run nerves after missing the second run. She is starting nice and

0:48:58 > 0:49:07smooth. 540, down to the 180. No, no!She has fallen on the left nine.

0:49:07 > 0:49:11She swapped the nine on the second hit for the alley-oop. She had

0:49:11 > 0:49:18scaled back.

0:49:18 > 0:49:26Next, Maddie Bowman from the United States. Currently in 11. She

0:49:26 > 0:49:32qualified in sixth, I think. So, she is on the form she has, she could

0:49:32 > 0:49:42move up the rankings considerably. Technical wise, it is all there. She

0:49:42 > 0:49:44just needs the amplitude to match.

0:49:47 > 0:50:00A huge 540. The tale, into 720. Switch seven.

0:50:00 > 0:50:04Switch seven. She gets the amplitude back up. Here is, the 900.Come on!

0:50:04 > 0:50:17Do it! Oh, no!You're kidding... What a shame.I thought she was

0:50:17 > 0:50:22going to let it go after the nine. The Olympic champion crashes out in

0:50:22 > 0:50:30the finals. All three runs.

0:50:30 > 0:50:33the finals. All three runs. The last four riders to drop Adi four top

0:50:33 > 0:50:38riders. Annalisa Drew, just outside the medals. Can she now pull it out

0:50:38 > 0:50:47of the bag and lay down a score worthy of the event? She needs the

0:50:47 > 0:50:50run of her life to upset the apple cart. So far, it is looking like

0:50:50 > 0:50:56that beautiful alley-oop.

0:50:56 > 0:50:59that beautiful alley-oop. To the five. Calming things down, a gentle

0:50:59 > 0:51:02pause between the technicality that we are going to see at the bottom.

0:51:02 > 0:51:10We need the fireworks. Wow. That was clean. I'm so glad I did my vision

0:51:10 > 0:51:15out of the window to see the landing. That was so clean! I mean,

0:51:15 > 0:51:23Annalisa Drew, regardless of score, regardless of ranking, she can be

0:51:23 > 0:51:27incredibly proud of three runs in the bag, for the Olympic final. That

0:51:27 > 0:51:31is a huge attribute to her skiing. The judges are going to be staring

0:51:31 > 0:51:34this rundown and comparing it exactly against Brita Sigourney's

0:51:34 > 0:51:39run.

0:51:39 > 0:51:44run.So, Annalisa Drew, the American was on an 86.8. She is looking for

0:51:44 > 0:51:51something above 89.8. 90.8! She is a point clear and is in the medals for

0:51:51 > 0:51:57now. But there are three riders left to drop. The next of which will be

0:51:57 > 0:52:01Brita Sigourney, who she has just bumped out of bronze medal position.

0:52:01 > 0:52:08It could be a very awkward flight home on the USA team playing. --

0:52:08 > 0:52:12plane. She has bumped her fellow countrywoman out of the medals, and

0:52:12 > 0:52:16now Brita Sigourney has it all to do.This is where you find out what

0:52:16 > 0:52:21you are made of. When you thought you had a medal, you got that close,

0:52:21 > 0:52:25and now you have got to lay down a huge clean run, arguably the best

0:52:25 > 0:52:33run of her life under the most pressure.Brita Sigourney has the

0:52:33 > 0:52:39ability to do this. She has the amplitude, technical difficulty, the

0:52:39 > 0:52:42confidence, the grabs. Roger Sigourney is the only person here

0:52:42 > 0:52:46who can actually challenge Cassie Sharpe, in my opinion, for the top

0:52:46 > 0:52:53spot. Now she has the destruction of being bombed down to fourth place.

0:52:53 > 0:52:59-- and destruction.Distraction, or motivation? Let's find out. Huge

0:52:59 > 0:53:05alley-oop. Biggest of the day, was it?She made a nine look like a

0:53:05 > 0:53:10five.She got the grab, that is what the last run was lacking.Needs

0:53:10 > 0:53:18fireworks here.

0:53:18 > 0:53:21fireworks here. Beautiful, big 722 finish. The last 180 was blind. They

0:53:21 > 0:53:30are hugging at the bottom. For me, I think she is definitely in the

0:53:30 > 0:53:34medals, man, there is no way about it.Absolutely. But I think it is

0:53:34 > 0:53:41better than Martinod's run. It was definitely bigger. As you said, she

0:53:41 > 0:53:47had the style and cleanliness. The grabs as well. That is the battle

0:53:47 > 0:53:51that we came to see. I'm sorry, everybody else, but we came to see

0:53:51 > 0:53:56the rock stars and this is the Cassie Sharpe against Brita

0:53:56 > 0:54:01Sigourney show. This is what you want in the pipe contest, you don't

0:54:01 > 0:54:03want anybody on a victory lap. I think we will see something

0:54:03 > 0:54:10between...Oh, my goodness! Dodging a huge bullet! I can't tell you how

0:54:10 > 0:54:17much I respect Marie and that was an amazing run, but obviously the

0:54:17 > 0:54:20judges are seeing things we can't see on the street we are getting.

0:54:20 > 0:54:23Not holding the grabs quite correctly, I think that is what she

0:54:23 > 0:54:34was punished for.Are we going to see the defending silver

0:54:35 > 0:54:37see the defending silver medallist from La Plan in France, are we go to

0:54:37 > 0:54:45see her step up her game and fault Cassie Sharpe into the silver medal

0:54:45 > 0:54:49position?Gold fever in the women's ski pipe finals. Marie Martinod is

0:54:49 > 0:54:52on the hunt.

0:55:00 > 0:55:07The nine was so well measured. Really clean.

0:55:07 > 0:55:10Really clean.Goodness.You don't need to be a rocket surgeon to do

0:55:10 > 0:55:17the maths on that one.

0:55:17 > 0:55:18the maths on that one. Marie Martinod raises her hands and

0:55:18 > 0:55:25celebrates a silver, while at the top of the pipe, Cassie Sharpe, is

0:55:25 > 0:55:36high-fiving the coaches and let's the idea of a gold settle.

0:55:36 > 0:55:46Back-up to the top, Cassie Sharpe. Her brother missed out on the slope

0:55:46 > 0:55:49team, and now Cassie Sharpe comes home with a goal. What a fantastic

0:55:49 > 0:55:57day for the Sharpe family and for Canada, following up on that silver

0:55:57 > 0:56:05in the women's slope. Mark McMorris and Max Parrot's bronze and silver

0:56:05 > 0:56:11is. She lets it go.It is almost relief, isn't it? The relief is

0:56:11 > 0:56:19gone.You talk about fighting against yourself. My goodness! She

0:56:19 > 0:56:24is in such a zone right now. That is going at the top of the run. I

0:56:24 > 0:56:28guarantee you, for the end of the season, she will be throwing out at

0:56:28 > 0:56:35the top of the run. It is so, so firm. Cassie Sharpe, undoubtedly,

0:56:35 > 0:56:42emphatically, taking gold in the women's ski half pipe finals. A

0:56:42 > 0:56:47fantastic battle, but a performance that proved to be head and shoulders

0:56:47 > 0:56:53above the rest. The technicality and amplitude at the top of the pipe was

0:56:53 > 0:56:58too much for Marie Martinod, Brita Sigourney and Annalisa Drew, just

0:56:58 > 0:57:03outside the medals in fourth place. Olympic champion, huge

0:57:03 > 0:57:04congratulations. How does that feel?

0:57:04 > 0:57:08Olympic champion, huge congratulations. How does that feel?

0:57:08 > 0:57:11Incredible, it doesn't quite feel real yet. But I put a whole bunch of

0:57:11 > 0:57:15work into getting here. It feels good.Fair to say you have been

0:57:15 > 0:57:19bossing it since the Oslo X-Games, how much pressure were you and

0:57:19 > 0:57:25coming into Olympics?I definitely felt the pressure and the

0:57:25 > 0:57:28expectation. But I tried to put as much time and preparing for it and

0:57:28 > 0:57:34getting my run ready to land, and to be consistent, and to win it. Yes, I

0:57:34 > 0:57:39am really thankful that I did all of the work beforehand.Rowan, huge

0:57:39 > 0:57:43congratulations. Seventh place, you must be thrilled?I am over the

0:57:43 > 0:57:47moon. It was a gold mine to reach the finals because I had minimal

0:57:47 > 0:57:51training this year. Just over the moon, to make the finals and then to

0:57:51 > 0:57:59put down a run. Sometimes the nerves gets to me. -- it was a goal of

0:57:59 > 0:58:02mine. I was glad that I was able to put together a good run.

0:58:02 > 0:58:04That's all from us for now.

0:58:04 > 0:58:07I'll be back at 11:45pm over on BBC One with live coverage

0:58:07 > 0:58:08of the Women's Downhill.

0:58:08 > 0:58:09Can Lyndsey Vonn deliver gold?

0:58:09 > 0:58:17See you tomorrow.
