0:00:09 > 0:00:16Previously at the Winter Olympics. Cassie Sharpe taking gold in the

0:00:16 > 0:00:22women's ski half pipe finals. Goodness me, these two are supreme.

0:00:22 > 0:00:27Germany dominate the large hill Nordic combined! That has been their

0:00:27 > 0:00:32best performance of these Olympic Games so far.Elise Christie is out

0:00:32 > 0:00:39of the Olympic Games.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Good evening and welcome.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10It's Day 12 and tonight's programme encapsulates all that is great

0:01:10 > 0:01:11about the Winter Olympics.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13You've got sports that are graceful and delicate,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16elegant and precise and then there are the rowdier sports,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18the ones that are about speed, spills and speculation.

0:01:18 > 0:01:24Here's what's coming up in a programme of two halves.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28We'll be whizzing downhill with the great Lindsay Vonn.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31What makes downhill racing more dangerous?

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Put other people in the way and add a whole load of jumps.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Not fast enough for you?

0:01:36 > 0:01:43These women hurtle down an ice track at 90mph.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46And then at a different pace...

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Can our composed curlers keep their cool?

0:01:48 > 0:01:55Billy Morgan takes to the air - the big air.

0:01:55 > 0:02:03And there's a Russian revolution in the figure skating.

0:02:04 > 0:02:11First, let me introduce three demons of speed.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Bobsleigh world champion, Nicola Minichiello.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Ed Drake, four-time British ski champion turned ski-cross racer.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20And 2010 Olympic skeleton champion Amy Williams.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24Good evening and thank you for being here.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26First fast one off the rank - the women's downhill.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29Eight years ago in Vancouver, Lindsay Vonn became the first

0:02:29 > 0:02:31American woman to win gold in this.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35She's had her fair share of injuries and missed Sochi because of them

0:02:35 > 0:02:38but today, at 33, she was trying to become only the second woman

0:02:38 > 0:02:42to win the downhill twice on what was likely to be her last

0:02:42 > 0:02:43Olympic appearance.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45She also wanted to become the oldest Alpine medallist.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Before we see how she got on, here's Graham Bell's view of the course.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Before we see how she got on, here's Graham Bell's view of the course.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52We start straightaway onto this bumpy Traverse which means the speed

0:02:52 > 0:02:57in is slightly less. But the actual course setting is much more

0:02:57 > 0:03:04difficult through here. Immediately up to speed, now. Over the first

0:03:04 > 0:03:13jump. That is the Gariwang. Onto the roller-coaster section. This is

0:03:13 > 0:03:17where the course changes critically, over the Dragon claw jump, got to

0:03:17 > 0:03:25keep turning, making this section into the forest road much tougher.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Through the devil gate turn on the forest road. Out towards the

0:03:28 > 0:03:34Paradise turn. It is blind coming in. It is a little roller, and then

0:03:34 > 0:03:44a compression turn. Over the next jump, now.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48The men's cause would go down through there, through the blue

0:03:48 > 0:03:58Dragon Valley. We head up here at onto the blue Dragon back. We have

0:03:58 > 0:04:04got three quite technical terms coming through here. -- technical

0:04:04 > 0:04:08turns. That is the hardest done-macro on the course, coming out

0:04:08 > 0:04:15of the blue Dragon back, into the Magic tree section. Over the last

0:04:15 > 0:04:25jump. Nice flight, there. And across the line. Wow.I've kind of believed

0:04:25 > 0:04:29that I was going to be in the Olympics since I was like, eight

0:04:29 > 0:04:33years old, I don't know why, it is something I always believed in and

0:04:33 > 0:04:37knew that I was meant to do. My earliest memory of the Olympics

0:04:37 > 0:04:47would be the 1998 Olympics in double, that captivated me.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50double, that captivated me. I met double when I was nine years old, I

0:04:50 > 0:04:53still have the picture she signed and she said for your dreams and I

0:04:53 > 0:04:58still have it in my bedroom today. She made me believe in myself. The

0:04:58 > 0:05:02Olympics are captivating because it is the pinnacle of sport.Lindsey

0:05:02 > 0:05:07Vonn flying and skiing for the gold medal. She's got it.That was all of

0:05:07 > 0:05:11my emotions coming out, you know, that was my whole life working hard

0:05:11 > 0:05:15for that one moment and realising that I had achieved it. It was the

0:05:15 > 0:05:25most incredible moment of my career. Lindsey Vonn crashes off the jump!

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Once you are injured and you missed the opportunity to be in the

0:05:28 > 0:05:30Olympics coming you have to wait so long and so the anticipation for me

0:05:30 > 0:05:36is pretty big. -- Olympics, you have to wait. I want to finish my career

0:05:36 > 0:05:41is strong. I want to hopefully win another Olympic gold medal. I want

0:05:41 > 0:05:43to give the girls of the next-generation someone to look up

0:05:43 > 0:05:50to, just like I looked up to Pico Street and all of the Olympians when

0:05:50 > 0:05:57I was a kid.COMMENTATOR: Lindsey Vonn is looking to go one better

0:05:57 > 0:05:59than her childhood hero, Pico Street, and win a second gold in her

0:05:59 > 0:06:05last ever Olympic downhill. Tina Weirather is ready to go,

0:06:05 > 0:06:14bronze medallist in the super-g. The 28-year-old from Lichtenstein.

0:06:14 > 0:06:1628-year-old from Lichtenstein. She is 0.34 in front, find top section

0:06:16 > 0:06:21for Tina Weirather. She has been regularly on the World Cup podium in

0:06:21 > 0:06:27downhill races, and has had a World Cup win in supercheap this season

0:06:27 > 0:06:31and look at this, she is drawing it down. 0.60 five. Bronze medallist in

0:06:31 > 0:06:37the super-g, hoping to go into the early gold medal spot, here, in the

0:06:37 > 0:06:44main event, the women's downhill. Long jump, about 20 metres and Tina

0:06:44 > 0:06:48Weirather leads the way in the Olympic downhill. Sofia Goggia is

0:06:48 > 0:06:54ready to go. The best downhill skier of the season so far, she leads the

0:06:54 > 0:07:03World Cup standings with two victories. She represents a serious,

0:07:03 > 0:07:06real threat to Lindsey Vonn's chance of winning gold today. But she has

0:07:06 > 0:07:11left as of work to do. That is dangerous. Lucky the wind did not

0:07:11 > 0:07:16get under her ski tips, there, and cause her to crash. It is a sign of

0:07:16 > 0:07:21the commitment she is putting into this race. It is full focus, and she

0:07:21 > 0:07:27has gone 25 metres, a good jump and that has put her right back in the

0:07:27 > 0:07:34chase. 94 kilometres per hour. She accelerates up beyond the 100 mark,

0:07:34 > 0:07:40perhaps come up to 104 kilometres per hour, smooth, accurate turns,

0:07:40 > 0:07:45for Sofia Goggia. The 25-year-old Italian clouding the control gate,

0:07:45 > 0:07:51the next split, it has got slightly better, 0.3 six. Sofia Goggia could

0:07:51 > 0:07:56back up the victory in the Olympic test event one year ago by skiing

0:07:56 > 0:07:59into gold medal position, here. It is a brilliant run from Sofia

0:07:59 > 0:08:09Goggia. She leads the way! It is a big margin in favour of the Italian.

0:08:09 > 0:08:12Sofia Goggia, Lindsey Vonn's main rival in downhill, has a storming

0:08:12 > 0:08:17bottom section but did you leave the door open for Lindsey Vonn at the

0:08:17 > 0:08:22top?Lindsey Vonn is already a ski racing legend, what happens today.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25The most successful female ski racer of all time. The focus this season

0:08:25 > 0:08:32has been all about today. The Olympic downhill competition, she is

0:08:32 > 0:08:35fully fit, she's fast, she's focused, and she is lying, there,

0:08:35 > 0:08:38standing on the right ski, great turn coming into Paradise, for

0:08:38 > 0:08:46Lindsey Vonn. She is now 33 years old. One of the oldest competitors

0:08:46 > 0:08:54in the competition. Is she in front? She is 0.4 slower than Sofia Goggia.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58She is fastest through the speed gun. Will that translates to a green

0:08:58 > 0:09:06light from here? Not quite, Lindsey Vonn has still got to find time.

0:09:06 > 0:09:11Half a second off the pace of Sofia Goggia. The top two separated by 0.6

0:09:11 > 0:09:15three. Lindsey Vonn going slightly wide, straight line all the way to

0:09:15 > 0:09:20the finish, now. Lindsey Vonn is across the line and into silver.

0:09:20 > 0:09:25Sofia Goggia holds on.Lindsey Vonn not able to capitalise on Sofia

0:09:25 > 0:09:29Goggia's slow top section, her inside shoulder was in and the

0:09:29 > 0:09:32pressure was off the outside ski and she has left the door open for other

0:09:32 > 0:09:41people to come and pusher of the podium.Nor will -- Norway's best,

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Rod Millman Winkel, silver medallist in the Olympic giant slalom last

0:09:43 > 0:09:48week. She's had an outstanding season.

0:09:53 > 0:09:57We are aware of her fine alpine programme, she won gold and three

0:09:57 > 0:10:02silvers and a bronze so far. Herself, she contributed to that

0:10:02 > 0:10:07with a silver from the giant slalom. 26 metres of light and the speed is

0:10:07 > 0:10:11good for Rod Millman winkle. Three green lights and then a red but not

0:10:11 > 0:10:17far. One tenth of a second off the pace. She is bringing her a game to

0:10:17 > 0:10:24the biggest race of the season. The top three separated by 0.60 three.

0:10:24 > 0:10:29She picks an unusual line into the left footed turn. As that brought

0:10:29 > 0:10:35her the reward? Can she ski quicker than 1:23.27? She's not far off.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39Wright Mills mowing full of Norway may well move in amongst the medals.

0:10:39 > 0:10:45Can she ski quickly enough to go into gold? She was slightly wide on

0:10:45 > 0:10:48the last turn, off the final jump, Brad build my winkle has gone into

0:10:48 > 0:10:55silver. Sofia Goggia in gold, by 0.09 seconds to Rod Millman winkle

0:10:55 > 0:11:03and Lindsey Vonn in bronze.I just raced for myself and everyone who

0:11:03 > 0:11:05supported me, was really focused on the view essential things I had to

0:11:05 > 0:11:10do to before my best. I am the Olympic champion! I still haven't

0:11:10 > 0:11:15realised it yet come you know? All of the pressure and expectation and

0:11:15 > 0:11:21you got a bronze today.Yeah, it was intense and I think mostly it was

0:11:21 > 0:11:27intense because I just wanted to win my grandpa. It is hard to process

0:11:27 > 0:11:30that it's my last Olympic downhill race, you know? I really want to

0:11:30 > 0:11:38keep racing forever but I can't. So...Knowing your family, your

0:11:38 > 0:11:42grandfather would be so happy that he went out there in did your best,

0:11:42 > 0:11:48you know?I hope so!

0:11:48 > 0:11:50you know?I hope so!You gave it everything you had at that is what

0:11:50 > 0:11:55it is all about Kim Eunho? It is like, laying your heart on the line

0:11:55 > 0:11:58and risking everything. I did that and I'm proud to walk away with a

0:11:58 > 0:12:02medal. It may not be gold and I'm sure a lot of people will say that I

0:12:02 > 0:12:06should have gotten a gold, but you know what? It is so hard to win or

0:12:06 > 0:12:11get a medal at the Olympics and I'm proud of my performance, so I'm

0:12:11 > 0:12:17walking away very happy. Not only does Sofia Goggia get the gold medal

0:12:17 > 0:12:20for the downhill, she also gets the gold medal for belting out a

0:12:20 > 0:12:22national anthem!

0:12:27 > 0:12:31That is her third gold of the game, bearing in mind they did not win a

0:12:31 > 0:12:36single gold in Sochi. -- Italy's third gold of the big games. What

0:12:36 > 0:12:41did you make of her performance? She skied great, took what ease into the

0:12:41 > 0:12:43talent but she was so smooth and clean in the bottom section which is

0:12:43 > 0:12:46very territories to her, she nailed the transition steeped about and

0:12:46 > 0:12:47carried so much speed in

0:12:47 > 0:12:48the transition steeped about and carried so much speed in the final

0:12:48 > 0:12:57section.She said normally she was quite chaotic but today she skied

0:12:58 > 0:13:02like a samurai, what did you mean? She was focusing on the details, she

0:13:02 > 0:13:03does so many things so well but making mistakes is her biggest

0:13:03 > 0:13:06hindrance and today she minimise those and was very clean, a couple

0:13:06 > 0:13:09of mistakes but great skiing. There was one moment where she could have

0:13:09 > 0:13:12lost it. The tips came up. It looked like she could have fallen

0:13:12 > 0:13:17backwards.When you keep pressurising the ski as you select

0:13:17 > 0:13:21-- as you take off, this section, she had a lot of pressure on the ski

0:13:21 > 0:13:24when she took off on that pushes you into the back seat so you are

0:13:24 > 0:13:28supposed to try to release pressure before you go off so you can stay in

0:13:28 > 0:13:31control but lucky to get away with it.This is the strange thing about

0:13:31 > 0:13:35the mountain, it is not an actual snow. No, artificial snow because

0:13:35 > 0:13:40they don't get a lot of natural snowfall so artificial has different

0:13:40 > 0:13:47characteristics. It's very aggressive and does not break up as

0:13:47 > 0:13:49much so every time you make an edge, your skis are biting straightaway so

0:13:49 > 0:13:52the setup is different and the technicians will edge the skis

0:13:52 > 0:13:57differently to give you a release. Do you think that affected the way

0:13:57 > 0:14:01Lindsey Vonn skied?I think so, she was cautious, uncharacteristically

0:14:01 > 0:14:05so, quite open with the upper body, not as low as we normally see her

0:14:05 > 0:14:09and she said in an interview afterwards that she fought to be on

0:14:09 > 0:14:13the ideal line and when you fight an aggressive snow, it bleeds time

0:14:13 > 0:14:18every single time you set an edge. You saw how emotional she was in the

0:14:18 > 0:14:22interview afterwards and she was on the podium as well, when she

0:14:22 > 0:14:25received her bronze medal. The president of the IOC, Thomas Barr,

0:14:25 > 0:14:29was making the presentations for this, and she talked to Chemmy

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Alcott about her grandfather, she mentioned him, he died in November

0:14:32 > 0:14:36and she was very close to him. I think she is aware that this is the

0:14:36 > 0:14:42end of her career and she is saying, OK, never say never but this is

0:14:42 > 0:14:45probably her last Olympic appearance and you can see Billie Jean King,

0:14:45 > 0:14:50among others, paying tribute to the skier that many regard as the

0:14:50 > 0:14:54greatest female skier of all time and she still has the record of

0:14:54 > 0:14:57World Cup wins. She certainly has and that will be the focus in the

0:14:57 > 0:15:00next couple of seasons, she's desperate to overtake the Danish

0:15:00 > 0:15:07record and she will keep going and she will -- until she gets it but

0:15:07 > 0:15:10she's the Postiga for the Americans, the pressure on heresy mongers,

0:15:10 > 0:15:14every time you talk about Alpine skiing at the Olympics, it is about

0:15:14 > 0:15:16Lindsey Vonn pretty much so to deal with that pressure and still come

0:15:16 > 0:15:19out with bronze after all the injuries as well, she's done really

0:15:19 > 0:15:24well.86 is the record for World Cup wins and she has 81.

0:15:28 > 0:15:31Time for another sport that Ed

0:15:31 > 0:15:39Drake has tried...The quicker they are, the harder they fall!

0:15:59 > 0:16:03This is going to get exciting.

0:16:03 > 0:16:04It is messy!

0:16:04 > 0:16:06Ski cross is arguably the most exciting, nerve-wracking,

0:16:06 > 0:16:08and downright daft Winter Olympic discipline.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11This is a sport where anything goes, and there's no saying who will win

0:16:11 > 0:16:13until somebody crosses that finish line.

0:16:13 > 0:16:15We join the mens competition at the semi final stage...

0:16:23 > 0:16:34You know what I mean by jumping mood? Well, we just cannot miss...

0:16:34 > 0:16:44Two Swiss, one Slovenian and a Canadian. It is looking like and the

0:16:44 > 0:16:52outside, Brady Leman has just got ahead. The man in the blue in

0:16:52 > 0:16:56second. Somehow, Bischofberger is in the yellow and blasting out in

0:16:56 > 0:17:01front!He blasted through, I think that maybe Brady Leman and Filip

0:17:01 > 0:17:05Flisar cancelled one another out. They let the unfavoured Swiss

0:17:05 > 0:17:12through. He has made a mistake and it opens the door.Brady Leman, the

0:17:12 > 0:17:16Canadian, taking advantage. Filip Flisar in third. Desperately

0:17:16 > 0:17:22fighting to find a way. Bischofberger isn't letting go of

0:17:22 > 0:17:28Brady Leman. The Canadian Andy Swiss battling it out.He has a great

0:17:28 > 0:17:31line... Making a move and Filip Flisar. Can he do what he did

0:17:31 > 0:17:43before?Brady Leman's to lose here. He heads towards the last kicker...

0:17:43 > 0:17:47And look at Armin Niederer! Desperately trying to find a way!

0:17:47 > 0:17:54Brady Leman goes through and is into the Olympic final again! The beast

0:17:54 > 0:18:00is in the lane nearest to us. Micrometre is he make his presence

0:18:00 > 0:18:09felt! He has done the same.He makes a hash brown Betfair.Sergey Ridzik

0:18:09 > 0:18:14is keen to cut out the two Canadians. Dave Duncan in the

0:18:14 > 0:18:19yellow, and in the green, Kevin Drury tries to get around Sergey

0:18:19 > 0:18:24Ridzik. Somehow, he is back in the mix! But flailing in last place

0:18:24 > 0:18:30right now.The battle is between the two Canadians for second and third.

0:18:30 > 0:18:35Those are the qualifying spots. David Duncan in yellow is in second.

0:18:35 > 0:18:42They race around the outside!Duncan goes wide. He has let his team-mate

0:18:42 > 0:18:48through. Sergey Ridzik in second. And after all of these mistakes, and

0:18:48 > 0:18:56details of the Russian!

0:18:56 > 0:18:58details of the Russian! The battle for second appears to be Ridzik's at

0:18:58 > 0:19:10the moment.Just clear of Bovolenta. It is the last jump. Kevin Drury...

0:19:10 > 0:19:14In third, Bovolenta.David Duncan slipping all the way down to fourth

0:19:14 > 0:19:19place. They are lining up in the gates. In

0:19:19 > 0:19:25the lane closest to the camera, Bischofberger. The mechanic from

0:19:25 > 0:19:30Switzerland up against the Olympic Athlete from Russia. Sergey Ridzik

0:19:30 > 0:19:34has done very well, the quickest in all the brands. Brady Leman, his

0:19:34 > 0:19:41third chance, his fourth, agonisingly in Sochi four years ago.

0:19:41 > 0:19:46On the green breath on the outside, and usually choosing the outside

0:19:46 > 0:19:54lane, Drury. The Canadians are so clever. Bischofberger is Wiley.

0:19:54 > 0:19:59Pressure on the gate and pressure on the skis... Brady Leman looking good

0:19:59 > 0:20:05at the start but the Russian is ahead! The Canadians are miles back.

0:20:05 > 0:20:09Bischofberger and Ridzik racing out in front. There is a lot of work to

0:20:09 > 0:20:15be done by the Canadians.Brady Leman with an amazing move! Ooh!It

0:20:15 > 0:20:21has gone for the Russian! Who can get up the fastest? It is a battle

0:20:21 > 0:20:25for the goal between Bischofberger and Brady Leman...He is guaranteed

0:20:25 > 0:20:31a medal! Finally! As long as he stays on his feet.He has to

0:20:31 > 0:20:34levitate... Bischofberger in the silver medal position, chasing down

0:20:34 > 0:20:39Brady Leman. Can Ridzik get up and claim a bronze medal?I think Ridzik

0:20:39 > 0:20:44had both of his skis on. We are focusing on the front of the race.

0:20:44 > 0:20:47This would be incredible from Brady Leman! Eight years ago he broke his

0:20:47 > 0:20:52leg ahead of the Winter Olympic Games. Placed agonisingly fourth

0:20:52 > 0:20:56four years ago. Losing some time but it could be good!Bischofberger

0:20:56 > 0:21:02slipstreaming. This is Ridzik in the bronze medal position. As they come

0:21:02 > 0:21:07over the last jump...Flailing for the Canadian but that said! A gold

0:21:07 > 0:21:14medal, finally, for Brady Leman! The Swiss leader of the World Cup,

0:21:14 > 0:21:18Bischofberger, managing to turn his form in the World Cup into a medal

0:21:18 > 0:21:25here. Then, Ridzik, the Russian, working his way through.

0:21:25 > 0:21:30Unfortunately for Kevin Drury, the Canadian, convincingly led every

0:21:30 > 0:21:36single one of his races up until this point, he is taken out.I think

0:21:36 > 0:21:41it was Kevin Drury who went down. We will have two CV crash again. These

0:21:41 > 0:21:50are the medallists. Has taken him so long -- have to see the crash again.

0:21:50 > 0:21:53Bischofberger was right over the front of his skis. Beautifully

0:21:53 > 0:21:59positioned! Speed that Brady Leman gets in here, it was a definite

0:21:59 > 0:22:06fall.Drury went down first and basically took Ridzik out. At the

0:22:06 > 0:22:11knees. Brady Leman soaking up the jumps, down into the finishing area.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14Bischofberger was so close he could nearly touch Brady Leman that he

0:22:14 > 0:22:19takes a silver.STUDIO: An amazing

0:22:19 > 0:22:24finish but I guess that the race was won in the first 20 seconds?

0:22:24 > 0:22:27finish but I guess that the race was won in the first 20 seconds?Brady

0:22:27 > 0:22:32didn't get the best start, but he managed to ski away. It was a half

0:22:32 > 0:22:36decent start, in the blue second from the left. He finds himself at

0:22:36 > 0:22:37work to do

0:22:37 > 0:22:38from the left. He finds himself at work to do over the opening features

0:22:38 > 0:22:42but he does not panic. Still quite a long way to go. Slipstreaming the

0:22:42 > 0:22:48other guys. You can see he gets his landing just right. Really smooth,

0:22:48 > 0:22:51and he manages to avoid the crash. Otherwise he would have been right

0:22:51 > 0:22:57behind. Amy Williams, you are full of questions? Are there any rules?

0:22:57 > 0:23:04It looks like a free for all! There are some rules. Not too many. So,

0:23:04 > 0:23:09you cannot grab anyone. You cannot stick your poll out. You cannot

0:23:09 > 0:23:12actively ski into someone else. You can take up as much space as you

0:23:12 > 0:23:18like using your way out one side to the other. And it looks very common

0:23:18 > 0:23:21that when you are off and jumping, each of the skis can be landing on

0:23:21 > 0:23:27top of each other.We are fighting for it.Are they shorter?The skis

0:23:27 > 0:23:32are about the length of a giant slalom's, you don't want them too

0:23:32 > 0:23:41short committee want to take speed and land the jumps. It is great to

0:23:41 > 0:23:44watch. A gold for Canada.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46Britain's Mica McNeill and Mica Moore were sixth

0:23:46 > 0:23:49at the halfway stage and well placed to improve on the best ever

0:23:49 > 0:23:51bobsleigh performance by GB women - that was ninth place...

0:23:51 > 0:23:54By Nicola Minichiello and Jackie Davies at the 2006 Games.

0:23:54 > 0:23:58They begin 0.16 seconds away from third place,

0:23:58 > 0:24:00and less than half a second from top spot.

0:24:00 > 0:24:03They've got there with the help of crowdfunding because the National

0:24:03 > 0:24:11Bobsleigh Federation dropped their funding.

0:24:19 > 0:24:20There was to be slight disappointment for Mission McNeill

0:24:20 > 0:24:24and make more, starting

0:24:29 > 0:24:32in sixth position. Holding a slender lead going into heat three, the lead

0:24:32 > 0:24:38was to shrink but still a strong run from the German. It was the United

0:24:38 > 0:24:42States's Alana Meyers Taylor who heaped the pressure on the German

0:24:42 > 0:24:47with a fantastic run, four hundredths of a second off the lead.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51Kaillie Humphries was fifth after a run two, showing all of her class to

0:24:51 > 0:24:56leapfrog two rivals and is now in the bronze medal position. Germany's

0:24:56 > 0:25:01Stefanie Schneider was the big loser, dropping from third place and

0:25:01 > 0:25:06mistakes littered her run. She is now fifth and under real pressure...

0:25:06 > 0:25:09The Brits will be disappointed that they have dropped down to eighth

0:25:09 > 0:25:12place but if they finish there they will have the best finish that it

0:25:12 > 0:25:15British team have had in the women's event since they came into the

0:25:15 > 0:25:24Olympic Games...If they could get anywhere

0:25:24 > 0:25:26anywhere near 5.50 as a start, then they have two avoid those

0:25:26 > 0:25:37mistakes...Two tenths of a second, it may drop off.

0:25:37 > 0:25:41it may drop off. Mica has been perfect, she now just needs to dial

0:25:41 > 0:25:45into the track, especially on this point. Get it right and you could

0:25:45 > 0:25:48keep the top eight. She begins to pull away. This is the run she needs

0:25:48 > 0:25:58to get her best result for Britain. Nicola Minichiello in 2006 was a

0:25:58 > 0:26:01fabulous ninth. The British pairing go one better at least! What a

0:26:01 > 0:26:08games! Kaillie Humphries, it might be too much to ask, a third gold

0:26:08 > 0:26:17here would be astonishing in history. Now, who has the bottle?

0:26:17 > 0:26:23She comes clean out of it. A double gold medallist, can she do it? A

0:26:23 > 0:26:27guaranteed bronze medal at least! Kaillie Humphries, one of the best

0:26:27 > 0:26:33will be on the podium again. Bronze at worst. It certainly is... There

0:26:33 > 0:26:39is one on missing from her resume, Alana Meyers Taylor. An Olympic

0:26:39 > 0:26:50gold. Can she break 5.2 as a wonderful start? Not quite. That is

0:26:50 > 0:26:56a very fast time. She has achieved it again. She needs to be perfect,

0:26:56 > 0:27:05drive the track like we know she can. Crucial to get this right.

0:27:05 > 0:27:12Unbend 15, she has a huge advantage over Kaillie Humphries. A guaranteed

0:27:12 > 0:27:19silver medal -- unbend 15. It will be America or Germany. We will know

0:27:19 > 0:27:28in less than 50 seconds...She has pulled back four hundredths. If she

0:27:28 > 0:27:37gets it right, she has a chance... Clean through 15! The young German

0:27:37 > 0:27:45with a great chance of having a gold here! Germany win! Mariama Jamanka

0:27:45 > 0:27:49striking gold! Applause from Elana Meyers Taylor, the silver medallist

0:27:49 > 0:27:54once again. And

0:27:54 > 0:28:00once again. And after that gold medal in the 2006 games, Germany win

0:28:00 > 0:28:04another gold. I don't think Jamanka can believe it! Jamanka wins the

0:28:04 > 0:28:12gold. Meyers Taylor a silver medal. The great Kaillie Humphries from

0:28:12 > 0:28:16Canada has a bronze. Confirmation of a wonderful record position for the

0:28:16 > 0:28:22great British team in eighth place.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25a wonderful record position for the great British team in eighth place.

0:28:25 > 0:28:28Mica, Mica, and stood in front of the greatest British bobsleigh team

0:28:28 > 0:28:33that Britain have ever produced! We are so happy, we came into this and

0:28:33 > 0:28:37we wanted to enjoy the experience, it is our first games. We've come

0:28:37 > 0:28:41away with eighth, and it is more than we could ever have hoped for!

0:28:41 > 0:28:46We are so happy. And where you happy with the performances today, Mica?

0:28:46 > 0:28:50There are things I will always be picky with but we came and wanted to

0:28:50 > 0:28:56enjoy it. We would love single figure result like nights or above.

0:28:56 > 0:28:59Yesterday we were in the next but

0:29:01 > 0:29:04I had a couple of mistakes but you've got to be happy with that.

0:29:04 > 0:29:09You've gone toe to toe with some of the best programmes and you are

0:29:09 > 0:29:12self-funded?Yes, five months ago we didn't even know that we would be

0:29:12 > 0:29:17here! To get here, that's an achievement in itself. We have loved

0:29:17 > 0:29:21every minute and we want to say thank you to everyone who supported

0:29:21 > 0:29:25us. Thanks to our family and friends. It has been incredible.

0:29:25 > 0:29:30It's been a crazy few months. This has been the cherry on top. We have

0:29:30 > 0:29:35enjoyed it so much. Will it be an interesting conversation with the

0:29:35 > 0:29:40performance director surrounding funding and Beijing 2022?I hope so,

0:29:40 > 0:29:45I hope we don't have to ask people. We don't want to be powered by the

0:29:45 > 0:29:50people any more. We want them to watch us and enjoy it and not have

0:29:50 > 0:29:53to help us out again!I think you deserve that, I'm sure everyone at

0:29:53 > 0:29:58home is wishing you the best between now and Beijing. Well done again!

0:29:58 > 0:30:04Thank you. High, Nicola!

0:30:04 > 0:30:08Just put it into context, it is not a medal but how good a performance

0:30:08 > 0:30:12is it given what they have gone through? Is outstanding, five months

0:30:12 > 0:30:15ago they thought it was it, it was all over, all of the challenges they

0:30:15 > 0:30:18have had through the season and they've gone out, they did not have

0:30:18 > 0:30:24as many runs as the other team, last season, always had concussion and

0:30:24 > 0:30:28then they could not get out there, so they'd had 14 runs something

0:30:28 > 0:30:31going into the condition and they've gone out that mixed it with the

0:30:31 > 0:30:35best. There start was not that great but the velocity and the driving

0:30:35 > 0:30:37phenomenal.What could they achieve if

0:30:37 > 0:30:40phenomenal.What could they achieve if they were properly supported? If

0:30:40 > 0:30:44you have extra money in your pocket, you don't have to put your own

0:30:44 > 0:30:48hotels, drive places and do the admin. They can concentrate on being

0:30:48 > 0:30:53athletes, going to the gym and training 100% and free up their mind

0:30:53 > 0:30:58all of the other things.Presumably you could have a slightly quicker

0:30:58 > 0:31:05bobsled as well.Yes, the Americans are like BMWs, is 0.2 seconds per

0:31:05 > 0:31:09run in comparison, it is good but not great compared to the Germans

0:31:09 > 0:31:13and the American, slightly quicker bob, slightly quicker start and they

0:31:13 > 0:31:17are right up there, the numbers are great, she could have won this with

0:31:17 > 0:31:21a German sled and a tenth of a second on the start.They are 24, 25

0:31:21 > 0:31:24and still learning, what do you think, in four years' time in

0:31:24 > 0:31:29Beijing, what would they be capable of?They finished eighth today,

0:31:29 > 0:31:38three of the pilots

0:31:38 > 0:31:40three of the pilots ahead of them are retiring. This is a huge

0:31:40 > 0:31:43opportunity for them, they need to stay focused and focus on the

0:31:43 > 0:31:45process, keep building a bit better on the equipment, a bit more time in

0:31:45 > 0:31:48the gym and who knows? It could be really exciting. Olympic medals are

0:31:48 > 0:31:51coming.I love it!

0:31:51 > 0:31:54Arguments will rage as to who is the greatest in any

0:31:54 > 0:31:56given sport but today Norway's Marit Bjorgen became

0:31:56 > 0:31:59the most decorated Winter Olympian ever, and she didn't pick an easy

0:31:59 > 0:32:02sport to do it in.

0:32:02 > 0:32:03Cross-country skiing.

0:32:03 > 0:32:07Paddy tells us more.

0:32:07 > 0:32:11They call Marit Bjoergen the iron Lady, but her life has been

0:32:11 > 0:32:17dedicated to other metals, gold, silver, bronze. Over five Olympic

0:32:17 > 0:32:21Games, she has become the winter's most relentless winner, doing so in

0:32:21 > 0:32:26a sport which pushes the body to its very limits.Marit Bjoergen, another

0:32:26 > 0:32:31superb piece of Winter Olympic history.She is 37 but isn't slowing

0:32:31 > 0:32:39down. Before today, she had three medals at this Olympics, now level

0:32:39 > 0:32:44with the greatest metal collector, Bjorn Dalen, on 13. And the teams

0:32:44 > 0:32:50Brent brought Marit Bjoergen's shot at Murray, a team-mate, Mike and

0:32:50 > 0:32:54Casper valour, got on the way home in third which took Marit Bjoergen

0:32:54 > 0:32:59player.Marit Bjoergen becomes the greatest of all time, bronze tonight

0:32:59 > 0:33:03for the golden girl. And still, she is not done, she wants individual

0:33:03 > 0:33:08gold, and she will go in the 30 kilometre mass start on Sunday. Once

0:33:08 > 0:33:13she has her rise on something, the Lady's not returning. -- her eye on

0:33:13 > 0:33:16something.

0:33:17 > 0:33:24It's crunch time at the curling as both British teams fight

0:33:24 > 0:33:28gently for a place in the semifinals.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31Billy Morgan's flying the flag in the big air.

0:33:31 > 0:33:38And Russian teenagers figure it out in the short programme.

0:33:38 > 0:33:42I'm not a weirdo.

0:34:06 > 0:34:10Not the VDI was expecting!That happens a lot. We've had a

0:34:10 > 0:34:13transition into the studio. We are coming it down a bit.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16To soothe you into the second half of the show, we welcome

0:34:16 > 0:34:192002 curling gold medallist Rhona Howie.

0:34:19 > 0:34:25Happy anniversary of your gold medal by the way.

0:34:27 > 0:34:29And 1984 ice dancing gold medallist Jayne Torville.

0:34:29 > 0:34:32And it's to the curling we go next and it's the last matches

0:34:32 > 0:34:33in the round robin stage.

0:34:33 > 0:34:38Some are bought the Great Britain men and women had to do.To avoid

0:34:38 > 0:34:40any tie-breakers or complications and keep the heart rate down, they

0:34:40 > 0:34:46just need to win. It's very simple and Logan Gray was willing them on.

0:35:04 > 0:35:11#

0:35:11 > 0:35:14It is crunch time at the cunning arena. We have reached the final

0:35:14 > 0:35:17stages of the Ryan Brobbel in and both British teams are fighting for

0:35:17 > 0:35:22their place in the semifinals. -- of the round robin. Later, the men play

0:35:22 > 0:35:28against the USA but first a must win match for the women against Canada.

0:35:28 > 0:35:32It was a strong start for the Olympic champions, with limited

0:35:32 > 0:35:38resistance from the Brits and at the halfway stage, Canada had a 3-2

0:35:38 > 0:35:41advantage. The Canadians continued to have chances to extend their lead

0:35:41 > 0:35:46but did not always capitalise. At 4-4 in the penultimate end, GB

0:35:46 > 0:35:50looked like they had run into some trouble, only to be saved by a very

0:35:50 > 0:35:59trusted caravans.OK, Eve Muirhead, Great Britain skip. Still have a

0:35:59 > 0:36:03good chance for certainly at least one and maybe two depending on how

0:36:03 > 0:36:08the set. Can she moved both of them? One, too, it's that one, it's that

0:36:08 > 0:36:12one, great shot from Eve Muirhead and she might even be sitting two.

0:36:12 > 0:36:18Well, Eve Muirhead played a cracker. Cracker.What a shot. That was a

0:36:18 > 0:36:28peach. Jumping in the air for joy, Eve Muirhead, and why not?

0:36:28 > 0:36:35A wonderful shot from Eve Muirhead. Canada just take one, they are

0:36:35 > 0:36:39leading.Trailing by one in the tenth and final end, more mistakes

0:36:39 > 0:36:45on the Canadians, and as a result, it all came down to this. This is a

0:36:45 > 0:36:50shot to keep Canada in the game or put Great Britain into a play-off

0:36:50 > 0:36:56place because we are sitting two right on the four foot. Here it

0:36:56 > 0:37:00comes, Rachel Homan giving this plenty of ice, she wanted to come

0:37:00 > 0:37:04in, she's got to at least lie second stone.Prydie hide the moment. It is

0:37:04 > 0:37:08starting to turn, has it got enough weight? They are trying hard, this

0:37:08 > 0:37:11is it, Great Britain are going to win this, it is not going to get

0:37:11 > 0:37:16there. The handshakes mean that Great Britain have won this match, a

0:37:16 > 0:37:24superb performance from Eve Muirhead and her team.

0:37:24 > 0:37:26and her team. Well, congratulations, the four of you, you are

0:37:26 > 0:37:26and her team. Well, congratulations, the four of you, you are through to

0:37:26 > 0:37:32the semifinal, job done.Delighted, we knew it would be a tough end

0:37:32 > 0:37:36against Canada and we came out and played a great game to book our spot

0:37:36 > 0:37:41in the semifinal, it was our first goal and we are delighted. How about

0:37:41 > 0:37:45the jumping in the air, we saw you leaving the ice when he played that

0:37:45 > 0:37:49brilliant shot.I can't actually remember it, when you are out there

0:37:49 > 0:37:52in the zone, you forget about the small things but I'm glad I landed

0:37:52 > 0:37:59safely on my feet!So the reigning Olympic champions, Canada, are out

0:37:59 > 0:38:03thanks to Eve Muirhead and her rink but what about the men? Kyle Smith's

0:38:03 > 0:38:07team are tied second in the rankings and USA are joint fifth, let's hope

0:38:07 > 0:38:11the Brits can keep the winning streak alive.

0:38:11 > 0:38:14The Americans made a strong start before the British team fought back

0:38:14 > 0:38:21to take a 1-shot lead in the fourth. But mistakes started to creep in. In

0:38:21 > 0:38:27the fifth end, the rest of advantage by scoring three. -- US took

0:38:27 > 0:38:32advantage. In the eighth, it went from bad to worse. Is this past the

0:38:32 > 0:38:37guard? It's not!

0:38:39 > 0:38:43This is the big shot for the US skip. He done it well. He's played

0:38:43 > 0:38:49that well.

0:38:49 > 0:38:52that well.Kyle Smith, then, to make sure that Great Britain get

0:38:52 > 0:38:56something out of this and to try to keep the match going because to give

0:38:56 > 0:39:00up one or two would make life very difficult indeed, so this needs to

0:39:00 > 0:39:05be very good. Looking like, isn't it?They will have to work this

0:39:05 > 0:39:11really hard.It is looking very light. Never anywhere near. Nowhere

0:39:11 > 0:39:17near, in fact, that could be the match. The USA, then, come away with

0:39:17 > 0:39:20a victory which has really been manufactured by Great Britain's bad

0:39:20 > 0:39:25play. Sadly, the opportunity to guarantee a place in the semifinals

0:39:25 > 0:39:29has gone. It will mean a tie-break match for Great Britain.

0:39:29 > 0:39:31has gone. It will mean a tie-break match for Great Britain. You win

0:39:31 > 0:39:34together and lose together but what will you do with the guys tonight?

0:39:34 > 0:39:37We will have to talk about the game and what we could have done

0:39:37 > 0:39:40differently and what we felt went right and wrong. There's a few

0:39:40 > 0:39:45things to discuss and try to learn from the game that we can take into

0:39:45 > 0:39:48the Swiss game. It's going to be another late night for you as you

0:39:48 > 0:39:55stay up to watch that.I'll be there. What happened with the men?

0:39:55 > 0:39:58It was such a solid performance against Norway in the game

0:39:58 > 0:40:03beforehand and they had to do the same again but they had too many

0:40:03 > 0:40:09half shots. The USA capitalised straightaway. We lost big ends, two,

0:40:09 > 0:40:13three, four, which is very uncharacteristic for the boys. Yeah,

0:40:13 > 0:40:16a disappointing game but as Kyle said, they will learn from it and

0:40:16 > 0:40:21not make the mistakes again. And as you know, it is not all over if you

0:40:21 > 0:40:27have do have a tie-break. You had two before you got through.Yes,

0:40:27 > 0:40:32it's a great motivator.Get on with it!Get on with it!Eve Muirhead and

0:40:32 > 0:40:37her rink did what you

0:40:37 > 0:40:37it!Get on with it!Eve Muirhead and her rink did what you told them,

0:40:37 > 0:40:40they are straight through and the turning point of the match for you

0:40:40 > 0:40:43was what? The ninth end, it was a very tetchy game, Great Britain

0:40:43 > 0:40:45fighting to get the two about the whole way through, they were two

0:40:45 > 0:40:50down to the eighth end and when they got the two back, in the eighth, in

0:40:50 > 0:40:54the ninth, even wanted to keep Canada to one and they were lying

0:40:54 > 0:40:59two, but this shot from Eve, she moved both red stones out of shot

0:40:59 > 0:41:07positions. Eve is lying two.How good is that?Brilliant because if

0:41:07 > 0:41:12she had been lying one, Canada could have hit for two and been two up in

0:41:12 > 0:41:16the last end where is playing that shot, she forces Canada to draw for

0:41:16 > 0:41:19a single which she is more than happy with going into the last end

0:41:19 > 0:41:24one down with the hammer. Not only did that ensure Great Britain

0:41:24 > 0:41:28qualified for the semifinal, it also meant Canada out which is really

0:41:28 > 0:41:33rare for them not to reach the knockout stages of medal matches,

0:41:33 > 0:41:37almost unheard-of.Absolutely and Canada in Olympic history have

0:41:37 > 0:41:42always won a curling medal so this is a massive shock for Canadian

0:41:42 > 0:41:48curling.To make it even worse, the women's team coach is a Canadian.

0:41:48 > 0:41:54Yes!What is his name?Glenn Howard. On his Wikipedia page, someone has

0:41:54 > 0:41:59changed it so instead of saying he's an Olympic colour and all his

0:41:59 > 0:42:03achievements, it just says, "Curling traitor!" Because he is coaching the

0:42:03 > 0:42:10GB women.Loads of countries have foreign coaches, quite a few

0:42:10 > 0:42:13countries have Canadian coaches and I bet they are not being called

0:42:13 > 0:42:17traitors right now!Not at the moment. If you had to make a

0:42:17 > 0:42:21prediction for how far the GB women will go, what do you think? My bet

0:42:21 > 0:42:27is it is South Korea and Great Britain in the final.Everybody

0:42:27 > 0:42:30grasping, that would be fantastic, great atmosphere!

0:42:30 > 0:42:32After disappointment in the snowboard slopestyle

0:42:32 > 0:42:34Britain's Billy Morgan has lofty ambitions in the big air.

0:42:34 > 0:42:37He'll have to hit new heights if he's to get through qualification.

0:42:37 > 0:42:43Let's join our team of Jenny Jones, Ed Leigh and Tim Warwood.

0:42:44 > 0:42:48Hugo Van Halen! The shrine.

0:42:51 > 0:42:58, data hello and welcome, the jump has been polished. -- COMMENTATOR:

0:42:58 > 0:43:00Hello and welcome, the jump has been published like a prized piece of

0:43:00 > 0:43:07mahogany and now it awaits the world's best snowboarders.We've got

0:43:07 > 0:43:11three Brits competing today, Billy Morgan, Jamie Nicholls and Rowan

0:43:11 > 0:43:15Coultas. They get two runs and the best one counts, there's two heats

0:43:15 > 0:43:25and six athletes qualify from each heat. The first to drop is Jamie.

0:43:25 > 0:43:29Oh!No! I'm going to let him off because he was the first athlete to

0:43:29 > 0:43:36drop and he's got another run. Nervous legs, shake it out, Jamie.

0:43:36 > 0:43:39Rider after riders stomp their jumps, with a triple 1440 proving

0:43:39 > 0:43:47very popular. Rowan Coultas landed a triple for the first time in

0:43:47 > 0:43:51competition but such was the standard, he was only eighth after

0:43:51 > 0:43:55the first run.Going into the second one, the guys have do step it up or

0:43:55 > 0:44:02do something incredibly different to stand out from the crowd.

0:44:03 > 0:44:07Jamie had all the pressure on him going into the second run and he

0:44:07 > 0:44:10landed his cab 1440. But would it score highly enough to get him into

0:44:10 > 0:44:17the top six?This is nerve-racking. Yeah.Really close, I think it is

0:44:17 > 0:44:24fifth or sixth. 81.25, it's not there, his Olympics is done.The

0:44:24 > 0:44:27standard of the competition has been unreal, very much everyone in the

0:44:27 > 0:44:34competition did 14 and above which is not normal in a qualification!

0:44:34 > 0:44:39Max Parrot sent a huge frontside triple 1440 deep into the landing to

0:44:39 > 0:44:45extend his lead over Kyle Mack of America, and Chris Corning. Their

0:44:45 > 0:44:48team-mate Red Gerard improved and moved back into fifth but he was

0:44:48 > 0:44:53pushed down into the bubble position by Sweden's Niklas Mattsson, who was

0:44:53 > 0:45:01the first to up the rotations and land a 1620 in the competition.Oh,

0:45:01 > 0:45:05my goodness!Rowan Coultas was left knowing he needed to improve his

0:45:05 > 0:45:10score by four points to qualify for the final.I get more stressed than

0:45:10 > 0:45:20he does.Really?Definitely.Wow!He goes big and it is clean but the

0:45:20 > 0:45:27trailing arm was on his knee again. It's an improvement.So close.He's

0:45:27 > 0:45:30missed out by 0.5.

0:45:39 > 0:45:41CHEERING

0:45:41 > 0:45:45CHEERING In heat two, we have Billy Morgan

0:45:45 > 0:45:48and it will be a tough qualifier to get through to the finals but I

0:45:48 > 0:45:53really think he can do this. If he lands the triple, deep and clean and

0:45:53 > 0:46:03with a double grab.

0:46:03 > 0:46:07with a double grab. They landed 1600 paw to all but guarantee their

0:46:07 > 0:46:13qualification. Billy Morgan stormed the same trick a nose grab air. That

0:46:13 > 0:46:18was beautiful! He scored 87.5, leaving him on the bubble in the

0:46:18 > 0:46:27sixth and final qualification spot. Next in, Carlos Garcia night. He

0:46:27 > 0:46:37will clean it up! I did not think it was possible to clean it up! 97.5.

0:46:38 > 0:46:42Marcus Cleveland fell, meaning that he was out of the competition. Billy

0:46:42 > 0:46:46Morgan is on the bubble but he will either have to bring in a double

0:46:46 > 0:46:55grab Faubert trick or completely step it up.The British bands having

0:46:55 > 0:47:05to get ready for this man... -- the British fans.Massive! It is better!

0:47:05 > 0:47:16It is better! Ooh Billy! That worse beautifulyou couldn't land a Boeing

0:47:16 > 0:47:25eight 380 better than that! Look at his face! Billy Morgan has upped his

0:47:25 > 0:47:33score, can he hang in there and make it through to the final?

0:47:33 > 0:47:36it through to the final? The German was the only rider who could take

0:47:36 > 0:47:43Billy's spot in the final...That was massive! My goodness! Why would

0:47:43 > 0:47:50he do that to us? So, Billy Morgan, Team GB, currently in sixth place.

0:47:50 > 0:47:59Let's see what the score does here... 87.25!Sorry, Billy Morgan

0:47:59 > 0:48:05is through to the finals! Yes, Billy! You are in an Olympic big air

0:48:05 > 0:48:10final. How does it feel?I don't want to get too excited, I will keep

0:48:10 > 0:48:17it under wraps. After seeing the standard, I wasn't expecting to get

0:48:17 > 0:48:21in there. I will squeeze the points out of that trick and it worked!

0:48:21 > 0:48:25Well done to him, through to the finals. What was I meant to do

0:48:25 > 0:48:32there? Jenny Jones would have known how to do that!

0:48:32 > 0:48:35Now to figure skating and after winning silver together

0:48:35 > 0:48:37in the team event a pair of Russian teens go head-to-head

0:48:37 > 0:48:40in the women's singles.

0:48:40 > 0:48:44Evgenia Medvedeva is the two-time reigning world champion and has only

0:48:44 > 0:48:49been beaten once since 2015. That was in last month's European

0:48:49 > 0:48:53Championships where her 15-year-old compatriot Alina Zagitova arrived on

0:48:53 > 0:48:56the scene in sensational style...

0:48:56 > 0:48:59With the OA are seeking an elusive first gold medal of the games and

0:48:59 > 0:49:03Russian dominance expected in the programme, the women's singles

0:49:03 > 0:49:10figure skating got off to a flying start... The Japanese performance

0:49:10 > 0:49:14was enough for them to go into the top spot while earning her a

0:49:14 > 0:49:21personal best score. The triple axel was landed in the last event, making

0:49:21 > 0:49:26her the first female figure skater to achieve that at an Olympics, but

0:49:26 > 0:49:34it wasn't to be this time around for Mirai Nagasu. Choi Da-bin lived up

0:49:34 > 0:49:38to a huge reception from the crowd...In third position, and the

0:49:38 > 0:49:46crowd like that result. Her stint in the top three winners to be short.

0:49:46 > 0:49:54The top three were stored to take to the ice. Evgenia Medvedeva suffered

0:49:54 > 0:49:58a broken foot in October but with this routine she put her injury woes

0:49:58 > 0:50:10behind her.The triple flip and a triple toe loop...

0:50:10 > 0:50:12triple toe loop... A double axel, watch her right knee, coming across

0:50:12 > 0:50:22in front. Beautiful! It is perfection again.81.61, a new world

0:50:22 > 0:50:28record!But her record wouldn't stand for very long. Another podium

0:50:28 > 0:50:36prospect, Kaetlyn Osmond helped Canada to their team gold last week.

0:50:36 > 0:50:43A good performance but falling short of the Marcus Epps aye two.The

0:50:43 > 0:50:48triple Lutz and a double axel... -- but falling short of the performance

0:50:48 > 0:50:53there.

0:51:05 > 0:51:1115-year-old looked to get her medal from her compatriot...The triple

0:51:11 > 0:51:19flip!

0:51:19 > 0:51:26flip! And the double axel...That is Evgenia Medvedeva's world record

0:51:26 > 0:51:31already broken! And it stood for only five minutes! She managed to

0:51:31 > 0:51:34set up a OAR

0:51:34 > 0:51:38one and two. You would think OAR's first gold medal

0:51:38 > 0:51:40one and two. You would think OAR's first gold medal of the games is

0:51:40 > 0:51:44guaranteed?I would think so, but you never know. What if they both

0:51:44 > 0:51:50made a mess? As one of the American journalists call the American team,

0:51:50 > 0:51:56they were

0:51:56 > 0:51:59they were in a splat-fest, they are low at the moment, that is unusual

0:51:59 > 0:52:09for the USA. It could happen, but I did think that Zagitova looked so

0:52:09 > 0:52:12good, more sure-footed

0:52:12 > 0:52:14did think that Zagitova looked so good, more sure-footed then her

0:52:14 > 0:52:19competitor.How would you characterise them?They are so

0:52:19 > 0:52:24similar. One is just a little taller than the other! And they even where

0:52:24 > 0:52:28similar outfits?One thing that I did notice, this is a personal

0:52:28 > 0:52:33thing, there are certain moments with Medvedeva... Is that how you

0:52:33 > 0:52:42say it? Sometimes, if you notice with her feet, her free leg, she

0:52:42 > 0:52:46doesn't point her toe. So she gets an ugly position with it.How do you

0:52:46 > 0:52:51point your telling those boots? You point with your ankle right down to

0:52:51 > 0:52:58your big toe. That doesn't count at this stage, it is all about how many

0:52:58 > 0:53:03jumps they complete. And all of these technical elements. A simple

0:53:03 > 0:53:07thing that she could do is to think about... She does have a nice

0:53:07 > 0:53:15turnout but doesn't necessarily point her toe.It may be a daft

0:53:15 > 0:53:19question, why does Zagitova where her tights over her boots? Some

0:53:19 > 0:53:23competitors think it makes your legs look longer. Some skaters even have

0:53:23 > 0:53:27beige colour boots so that the tides blend into the boots. It is an

0:53:27 > 0:53:31illusion that they have longer limbs and so look more graceful.I do

0:53:31 > 0:53:36think that being in the singles must be really lonely...Not in an arena

0:53:36 > 0:53:41like that. There are a lot of people cheering you on.But in training and

0:53:41 > 0:53:48everything?For those two Russian girls, they train together and I

0:53:48 > 0:53:51think the younger, at one point, probably wanted to learn from the

0:53:51 > 0:53:54older one. And has learned a huge amount from being in the same rink.

0:53:54 > 0:53:59They both have a fantastic standard. An incredibly high standard. 15 is

0:53:59 > 0:54:03the minimum age to be in the Olympics. Now here is Paddy with the

0:54:03 > 0:54:06best of the rest... At one point it was difficult to distinguish between

0:54:06 > 0:54:11the gold and the Orange in the speed skating. Such was the Netherlands

0:54:11 > 0:54:14dominance, they haven't had it all their own way. The women's pursuit

0:54:14 > 0:54:22final, a stunning pursuit from Japan pipped them to the title. It was

0:54:22 > 0:54:30Wust's final Olympics. The Dutch managed to get a bronze medal in the

0:54:30 > 0:54:35speed skating. A bronze in the women's ice hockey was decided by a

0:54:35 > 0:54:40thrilling match. Finland were two up, surviving a fightback by the

0:54:40 > 0:54:47Olympic Athletes from Russia to win three two, meaning a medal for the

0:54:47 > 0:54:52oldest player in Olympic ice hockey. Hoesflot Klaebo is less than half

0:54:52 > 0:54:57her -- half her age, still 21, but won his third gold medal of the

0:54:57 > 0:55:02games in the team sprint. That's why he's known as the Usain Bolt of

0:55:02 > 0:55:05Snow, powering to a victory. Cross-country skiing is a sport of

0:55:05 > 0:55:11toil and sweat and yet somehow, he makes it look cool!

0:55:11 > 0:55:13STUDIO: He does!

0:55:13 > 0:55:15Another good day for the Norwegians, gold medals in cross-country skiing

0:55:15 > 0:55:18and speed skating put them on 13 golds, just one short

0:55:18 > 0:55:19of the all-time record.

0:55:19 > 0:55:22Germany have equalled their best ever total of 12 golds after winning

0:55:22 > 0:55:23the women's bobsleigh.

0:55:23 > 0:55:25Great Britain still in 16th...

0:55:33 > 0:55:37This is good, I think! For the colours to know. Jamie Murray is

0:55:37 > 0:55:46watching and supporting Team GB all the way from Rio! I'm very glad to

0:55:46 > 0:55:54see we have made it to South Korea! Aah! Isn't that sweet?A lot of

0:55:54 > 0:55:58kitchen utensils all over the country being put to alternative

0:55:58 > 0:56:06use!She's got the oven gloves on her feet! You will love this... He

0:56:06 > 0:56:10would make a good skip, wouldn't he? Very good, it's a shame that the dog

0:56:10 > 0:56:17is in the way!Curling with ice blocks there. And a toy mouse in the

0:56:17 > 0:56:24house! The pupils from Abbott well primary in Harlow have got into the

0:56:24 > 0:56:29Winter Olympic spirit. They have gone big on the bobsleigh!Lean!

0:56:29 > 0:56:37Feel the rhythm!Now it's time for red-hot

0:56:37 > 0:56:40ice-cold... First up in the ice hockey, I wonder

0:56:40 > 0:56:44whether it is just the players but everyone nearby who wants to wear a

0:56:44 > 0:56:54helmet! Have a look at this... It gets him right on his conk! A bit of

0:56:54 > 0:56:59ice. There is a lot of it around! Next, the American bobsleigh silver

0:56:59 > 0:57:08medallist Alana Miller is Taylor -- Elana Meyers Taylor.

0:57:12 > 0:57:13Elana Meyers Taylor.Getting into the zone pre-race, I'm guessing

0:57:13 > 0:57:16she's listening to "Eye of the Tiger" from Rocky III.. I listen to

0:57:16 > 0:57:21classical music, you have two be relaxed at the same time!Next, I

0:57:21 > 0:57:26believe I can fly!

0:57:27 > 0:57:28believe I can fly! Gold medallist and team mate Sofia Goggia's

0:57:28 > 0:57:34reaction says it all? she was all right! And finally, the mullet is

0:57:34 > 0:57:38coming back! New Zealand hipster Peter Michael... And actually,

0:57:38 > 0:57:44Chemmy told me that it is scientifically proven to be the

0:57:44 > 0:57:49fastest hairstyle! Her baby has a mullet, she says it is because it is

0:57:49 > 0:57:54really fast! If you flip over to the BBC for channel, you can see

0:57:54 > 0:58:01extended highlights of the figure skating and the men's ski cross. And

0:58:01 > 0:58:06men's curling just after midnight tonight. Will they win?Of course!

0:58:06 > 0:58:09GB have a must win tie break against Switzerland,

0:58:09 > 0:58:13that starts in just over four hours' time.

0:58:13 > 0:58:14On the mountain...

0:58:14 > 0:58:17Mikaela Shiffrin is going for her second gold of the games

0:58:17 > 0:58:19in the womens combined, that's at 02:30.

0:58:19 > 0:58:21Before that from 1am, can anyone stop marvellous

0:58:21 > 0:58:26Marcel Hirscher in the men's slalom?

0:58:26 > 0:58:29The unlikeliest challenger would be our own Dave 'The Rocket'

0:58:29 > 0:58:31Ryding who graduated from the plastic slopes of Pendle

0:58:31 > 0:58:32to the mountains of Pyeongchang.

0:58:32 > 0:58:34It's not a bad story...

0:58:34 > 0:58:39Thank you for being with us, good night!

0:58:42 > 0:58:46Dave Ryding from Great Britain, holding his nerve! He's looking in

0:58:46 > 0:58:57good shape... He is second! That is sensational!Dave Ryding has made

0:58:57 > 0:59:01skiing history! What a ski from Dave Ryding.
