0:00:10 > 0:00:18This programme contains scenes of repetitive flashing images.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46What is this thing that enthralls us?

0:00:46 > 0:00:50A frozen world but full of life.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Massive forces at play.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57But there's creativity, passion and delight.

0:00:57 > 0:01:02This is where sport, science and humanity collide.

0:01:02 > 0:01:10And the result is truly spectacular.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15There's the battle with gravity, those who wish to harness its pull.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17The search for aerodynamic and technical superiority,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19with speed the ultimate motivation.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23Klammer's done it and this crowd go wild!

0:01:23 > 0:01:25And those for whom gravity...

0:01:25 > 0:01:26They're chanting Eddie.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29..is the enemy.

0:01:29 > 0:01:30Safely down.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32Where the demand for spatial awareness and extrasensory

0:01:32 > 0:01:35perception is palpable and beautiful.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37What a marvellous set of marks.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39A smile and a tear for Robin Cousins.

0:01:39 > 0:01:45Where ice is the battlefield but the competition is human.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48The energy is intense.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49It is combustible, unpredictable and utterly enthralling.

0:01:49 > 0:01:57This is a marriage of old and new, tradition and modernism.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Where memories of what has gone before shape what is to come.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06Sport, science and humanity collide.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08But this is a celebration of all three.

0:02:08 > 0:02:16Welcome to the Winter Olympics.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31At the Winter Olympics, the forces of nature

0:02:31 > 0:02:34and the laws of science combine with the strength, precision

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and skill of athletes to deliver the most gripping drama.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Over the next 16 days we will bring you the highs and lows

0:02:39 > 0:02:41of the 23rd Winter Olympics.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44A team of 59 from these shores have travelled halfway round the world

0:02:44 > 0:02:48to South Korea hoping to indelibly write their name onto

0:02:48 > 0:02:49a very exclusive list.

0:02:49 > 0:02:57The list of British Winter Olympic medallists.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Hello and welcome to Today at the Games.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06It is now just after 4am, and about 20 below in South Korea,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09which is why we are basing ourselves in the UK from the, ahem,

0:03:09 > 0:03:10Alpine studios of Salford.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13We'll be here every evening at 7pm to bring you all the highlights

0:03:13 > 0:03:15from Pyeongchang with a little help from our dedicated team

0:03:15 > 0:03:20out in the Far East.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23This is what we have for you over the next hour.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26This is what we have for you over the next hour.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28GB are sending their biggest team to a Winter Olympics -

0:03:28 > 0:03:30we'll assess our medal chances.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33Then we'll bring you highlights of the opening ceremony -

0:03:33 > 0:03:36in South Korea, expect the unexpected.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38As she travels her road to redemption, we speak

0:03:38 > 0:03:45to Elise Christie.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49Five and a half thousand miles away is where over 100 medals will be

0:03:49 > 0:03:52decided over the next fortnight or so, and this is where it's

0:03:52 > 0:03:53all going to happen.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55The area around Pyeongchang might be known as the Korean Alps

0:03:55 > 0:03:57but it's much chillier.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01The temperature is below zero for four months of the year.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Here to tell you more about the host city is our snowboard

0:04:03 > 0:04:11commentator, Tim Warwood.

0:04:15 > 0:04:20Hello and welcome to Pyeongchang, or, as the locals would say...

0:04:20 > 0:04:25Home to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27And the first to be held here in South

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Korea.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33We are roughly 200 kilometres east of the capital city, Seoul, and

0:04:33 > 0:04:36we'll be spread across four locations where there will be plenty

0:04:36 > 0:04:37of drama...

0:04:37 > 0:04:38Oh, he's down!

0:04:38 > 0:04:39Thrills...

0:04:39 > 0:04:40Spills...

0:04:40 > 0:04:44And excitement over the next two weeks.

0:04:44 > 0:04:49In Pyeongchang in 2018 so far, the majority of recorded

0:04:49 > 0:04:52temperatures have been -10 Celsius or lower.

0:04:52 > 0:04:57Ice!

0:04:57 > 0:05:03So we look on course for the coldest Winter Olympics to date.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06South Korea is one of the world's leading

0:05:06 > 0:05:09providers of technology and that is being embraced here at the Winter

0:05:09 > 0:05:10Olympics.

0:05:10 > 0:05:11I am ready.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Am I ready?

0:05:14 > 0:05:16I'm not, actually, this is a little bit scary.

0:05:16 > 0:05:17Hello.

0:05:17 > 0:05:18Nice to meet you.

0:05:18 > 0:05:19Nice to meet you too.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Go, and he's out of the gate.

0:05:22 > 0:05:30What a start by Warwood here.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36There is also a chance to be a pilot in the dangerous world of

0:05:36 > 0:05:37bobsleigh.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40Don't worry, I've got my lucky egg.

0:05:40 > 0:05:45That was insane!

0:05:45 > 0:05:47The food here in South Korea is superb.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51Chicken ramen and of course beef.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54And kimchee, which is fermented cabbage.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56Everything you need before heading out for a good

0:05:56 > 0:06:00time.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03You could find yourself here, microphone in hand, singing along to

0:06:03 > 0:06:04some of your favourite K-pop.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Out the way, then.

0:06:06 > 0:06:11# Eh, sexy lady!

0:06:11 > 0:06:15# Oppan Gangnam style!

0:06:15 > 0:06:23I'm 38.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29Over the course of the next two weeks, the most amount of

0:06:29 > 0:06:31medals ever will be handed out inside the Pyeongchang Olympic

0:06:31 > 0:06:33Stadium there.

0:06:33 > 0:06:34It promises to be absolutely spectacular.

0:06:34 > 0:06:35Strap yourselves in.

0:06:35 > 0:06:41This is Pyeongchang 2018.

0:06:41 > 0:06:53I think #2i78 is having a lot of fun out there. Soon to fly out to Korea

0:06:53 > 0:07:00Amy Williams, Jeon In-kwon who carried the flag and Chemmy Alcott.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03Amy, the success of British athletes in the sliding event is particularly

0:07:03 > 0:07:11strong.Yes, we have brought home medals in the last four Olympics,

0:07:11 > 0:07:18from Salt Lake City, Turin, me in Vancouver and Lizzy Yarnold. We have

0:07:18 > 0:07:22a great development programme, we know how to win medals and we

0:07:22 > 0:07:26maximise our ice time. We have the best equipment and coaching and we

0:07:26 > 0:07:30know how to learn and to kind of get good on tracks quickly, I think that

0:07:30 > 0:07:36is thing, when there is an Olympics like Vancouver, Sochi was brand-new,

0:07:36 > 0:07:41so is this track in Pyeongchang, we are good at learning quickly, it has

0:07:41 > 0:07:45been phenomenal to see like Lizzy fast track through from almost four

0:07:45 > 0:07:49years from starting to slide to becoming Olympic champion, so we

0:07:49 > 0:07:54have got new people coming on in and it is an exciting time. Once the

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Olympics are finished you start with the development squad and

0:07:57 > 0:08:02concentrating on the new lot, and the new wave of athlete's.It has

0:08:02 > 0:08:05been successful in terms of science and technology, the money invested

0:08:05 > 0:08:10has paid off. Jon, is this the best venue ever for short track speed

0:08:10 > 0:08:15skating is thisIt is a big call but I think it is. To compete in front

0:08:15 > 0:08:18of that crowd who are knowledgeable and passionate, the guy also have a

0:08:18 > 0:08:22ball over there, and they will feel the atmosphere, it is going to be

0:08:22 > 0:08:26fantastic.You had the honour to carry the flag at the opening

0:08:26 > 0:08:30ceremony four years ago, what is this moment like?Special. It is

0:08:30 > 0:08:36hard to explain but it, just such a proud most moment for me and having

0:08:36 > 0:08:40a strong team behind, it was our best for 100 year, our best

0:08:40 > 0:08:42performance, hopefully that I can beat that this time but it was

0:08:42 > 0:08:50special.Chemmy we have the traal alpine events but supplemented by

0:08:50 > 0:08:54the events like slopestyle, big air, it brings a different flavour to the

0:08:54 > 0:08:57games.It is important that the Winter Olympics is seen to

0:08:57 > 0:09:03development we have this creative side. It is interesting being the

0:09:03 > 0:09:06athlete, because the freestyle athletes they never dreamed about

0:09:06 > 0:09:11being an Olympian, you spoke to them four years and they weren't sure

0:09:11 > 0:09:17what they were getting ifrn to. Than changed with Jenny Jones, they are

0:09:17 > 0:09:20dreaming of becoming Olympian, becoming a medallist, so it is like

0:09:20 > 0:09:24the X-Games is good but from Britain we love the Olympics, that is why we

0:09:24 > 0:09:27have a great show here, everyone gets inspired by the Winter Olympic,

0:09:27 > 0:09:32so it is a real big deal for them. We love watching the huge variety of

0:09:32 > 0:09:36sports you are going to see over the next, well more than two week, the

0:09:36 > 0:09:41build up to the games has been far from straightforward.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44South Korea's noisy neighbours have been dominating the front pages

0:09:44 > 0:09:47and the fates of Russian athletes caught up in the doping scandal have

0:09:47 > 0:09:48dominated the back pages.

0:09:48 > 0:09:55Matt Pinsent assesses a Games caught up in controversy.

0:09:55 > 0:10:00Every addition of the Olympic Games is going to have its challenges, but

0:10:00 > 0:10:06it seems as if Pyeongchang is taking it to a whole new level.

0:10:06 > 0:10:1150 miles across those hills, is North Korea, and let's be honest,

0:10:11 > 0:10:15relations with them recently have been absolutely appalling. But in

0:10:15 > 0:10:19the hast few weeks North Korea announced they would send a

0:10:19 > 0:10:24delegation to the Winter Games to compete, so are we on the eve of

0:10:24 > 0:10:30some Korean good will?I have been doing Korea for 30 year, and I

0:10:30 > 0:10:34cannot recall when a situation was as dangerous as in the last year,

0:10:34 > 0:10:42the tension between south and north is becoming more sophisticated and a

0:10:42 > 0:10:48bit dangerous. Especially for our side of Korean peninsula. All this

0:10:48 > 0:10:54reconciliation is not going to last long, because the United States

0:10:54 > 0:11:03would be deadly opposing any kind of economic interaction between two

0:11:03 > 0:11:08Koreas,Still the Korean citizens has the same his tri, we are one

0:11:08 > 0:11:13people, one nation, so we are rooting for both team, Korea and

0:11:13 > 0:11:17north. Hopes in Democratic People's Republic of Koreaia might have been

0:11:17 > 0:11:23high but the rest of the world asked about attending the gales. It feels

0:11:23 > 0:11:29better to come and not boycott. You have to remember it is the athletes

0:11:29 > 0:11:35of occasion, it is the pinnacle of their career, it is up to us to make

0:11:35 > 0:11:41sure we are here accuse loss as we can guarantee the safety.Another

0:11:41 > 0:11:45problem is that of Russia, and their doping. This obviously started back

0:11:45 > 0:11:51at the last winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, but just recently, it's

0:11:51 > 0:11:56come to a head.Russia has been banned from competing at the Winter

0:11:56 > 0:12:00Winter Olympicses in South Korea. It follows allegations of state

0:12:00 > 0:12:06sponsored doping. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has up held

0:12:06 > 0:12:10appeals from 28 of those banned Russian athlete, which leaves a

0:12:10 > 0:12:16whole lot more questions, and the only person who can answer them, is

0:12:16 > 0:12:24the President of the IOC.Could you do into any more detail?Do you have

0:12:24 > 0:12:28any regrets about the intervening four years and the way it has been

0:12:28 > 0:12:35handled?No, we issued the toughest sanction, which we deissue, on a

0:12:35 > 0:12:42National Olympic Committee, this is the exclusion from the Olympic aims.

0:12:42 > 0:12:46But the IOC did clear 169 athletes who they judged to be drug free,

0:12:46 > 0:12:50they compete under an Olympic flag with neutral kit, and no Russian

0:12:50 > 0:13:00anthem if they win.We gave a new and young generation of Russian

0:13:00 > 0:13:05athletes, the opportunity to be invited, to show the Russians that

0:13:05 > 0:13:10it pays off to be, to be clean. In one final chapter to the Russian's

0:13:10 > 0:13:14trying to get to Pyeongchang, a further 32 athletes challenged their

0:13:14 > 0:13:22bans from December. But, just hours ahead of the opening ceremony their

0:13:22 > 0:13:26appeals were dismid saying the IOC were within their rights to block

0:13:26 > 0:13:29them from competing. No-one's naive enough to think that a Winter

0:13:29 > 0:13:33Olympics is going to solve all the world's sporting or political

0:13:33 > 0:13:38problems, but with world class events about to beginning, hopefully

0:13:38 > 0:13:42we can all take a 17 day break from them.

0:13:42 > 0:13:51We can focus on the sport.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54In Sochi GB won four medals - who can forget Jenny Jones winning

0:13:54 > 0:13:57Britain's first medal on snow, Lizzie Yarnold's sliding to Olympic

0:13:57 > 0:13:59gold and our curlers holding their nerve when it mattered?

0:13:59 > 0:14:04Well, the pretender to Jenny Jones's crown

0:14:04 > 0:14:05on the slopestyle was Katie Ormerod.

0:14:05 > 0:14:09Katie just missed out on a place in Sochi four years ago and now

0:14:09 > 0:14:12she's out of competition in South Korea.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15Katie suffered a severe fracture to her right heel

0:14:15 > 0:14:16in training on Thursday.

0:14:16 > 0:14:18The 20-year-old medal hopeful suffered a minor wrist fracture

0:14:18 > 0:14:20in practice on Wednesday but was still intending to compete

0:14:20 > 0:14:21in Sunday's slopestyle.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24But unfortunately the heel fracture was too severe and she went

0:14:24 > 0:14:25in for surgery earlier today.

0:14:25 > 0:14:33She's been on Instagram and seems very comfortable.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36Hink that a Winter Olympics is going to solve all the world's sporting or

0:14:36 > 0:14:38political problems, but with world class events about to beginning,

0:14:38 > 0:14:40hopefully we can all take a 17 day break from them.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43We can focus on the sport. This is the latest of a long list of

0:14:43 > 0:14:46injuries.She said it was all about the Olympics for her, when she broke

0:14:46 > 0:14:48her wrist she was positive she could come back. She has broken her back,

0:14:48 > 0:14:52her arm twice, and her shoulder, and I never miss the Olympics through

0:14:52 > 0:14:57injury but I know what she is going through, it is brutal. She is just a

0:14:57 > 0:15:00charger, someone who continues to take that much risk again and again

0:15:00 > 0:15:04knows she can deliver, and that is why she has taken that risk and we

0:15:04 > 0:15:07feel for her, because it is a brutal position, she is out there, she is

0:15:07 > 0:15:12in hospital for another week, she will be watching. The good news is

0:15:12 > 0:15:15her family is represented. Jamie Nicholls her cousin is competing, so

0:15:15 > 0:15:24at least she can cheer him on. It is unfortunately this is the

0:15:24 > 0:15:28problem with Winter Olympic sports. There is such a thin line twine

0:15:28 > 0:15:32success and disaster, we have a really strong team. That is why it

0:15:32 > 0:15:35is hard to predict the medals. They have to push themselves. Dave Ryding

0:15:35 > 0:15:40he has to go to his limit to get on the podium. If in slalom if you go

0:15:40 > 0:15:44half a millimetre wrong, you are out. So it is brutal, but that is

0:15:44 > 0:15:48equally what makes it exciting.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52We will talk about those who remain and could still win medals.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54Paddy Geary now takes us through those British athletes

0:15:54 > 0:16:00looking for Olympic glory.

0:16:00 > 0:16:04Tis the season, weeks, months, years spent on eyes just to discipline in

0:16:04 > 0:16:10a blur or an error. Winter sprinter Elise Christie was disqualified for

0:16:10 > 0:16:15all three distances in Sochi, close to quitting but now I had a world

0:16:15 > 0:16:20champion or a world record holder in them all. Things change fast. Drama

0:16:20 > 0:16:25does not always unfold at high speed. The slow story of curling up

0:16:25 > 0:16:30Ulreich us in 2002 will stop good Rhona Martin be followed by Eve

0:16:30 > 0:16:38Muirhead? -- gripped us. Up on a mountain, nobody will jump like

0:16:38 > 0:16:44Eddie, but there is a slalom star in Dave Ryding who learned his craft on

0:16:44 > 0:16:48Lancashire Odd less than Alpine slopes and won a historic silver

0:16:48 > 0:16:52medal in the World Cup circuit last year. Four years ago Andrew Musgrave

0:16:52 > 0:16:55made these Bridcutt by

0:16:58 > 0:17:05. He is a more competitive animal this time for the the essence of

0:17:05 > 0:17:09freestyle, James Woods, is the acting and Katie Summerhayes have

0:17:09 > 0:17:13all got World Championship medals since Sochi, and such form means

0:17:13 > 0:17:20success is expected. Rocky times in British bobsleigh, a sport used to

0:17:20 > 0:17:24bums but still be outside chance of a medal from both British men's

0:17:24 > 0:17:28four-man crews and who could forget the skeleton queen? Lizzy Yarnold

0:17:28 > 0:17:31four years on from her gold men's four-man crews and who could forget

0:17:31 > 0:17:33the skeleton queen? Lizzy Yarnold four years on, Goldwasser in Sochi,

0:17:33 > 0:17:37this season her team-mate Laura Deas has become faster. Lizzy Yarnold

0:17:37 > 0:17:42spent time away from the reasons of choice and health, it has been a

0:17:42 > 0:17:45roller-coaster but this is her favourite part of the ride.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50We can talk about the sliding events.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53We can talk about the sliding events. Lizzie is defending her

0:17:53 > 0:17:59title, Laura Deas is alongside her. The bobsleigh team, do you feel

0:17:59 > 0:18:04there is a sense that they believe it now and they can win medals?Yes,

0:18:04 > 0:18:04there is a sense that they believe it now and they can win medals?Yes,

0:18:04 > 0:18:08after I won my gold medal Lizzie was quoted as saying that she watched me

0:18:08 > 0:18:13do it and it's not impossible. When you see somebody in your team

0:18:13 > 0:18:16winning and getting a medal, it proves you can do it. We might not

0:18:16 > 0:18:20have an ice track at home in Great Britain but we can still win medals.

0:18:20 > 0:18:25She had done it before. Laura Deas is right on the end, she studied at

0:18:25 > 0:18:29the same time as Lizzie and has a faster push and she has been

0:18:29 > 0:18:34consistently better all season. -- she started. She is good enough to

0:18:34 > 0:18:38win a medal and I hope on the day the pressure does not get to her.

0:18:38 > 0:18:42She wants to be the next person in the team. And in the bobsleigh do

0:18:42 > 0:18:47you have the two teams, Lamin Deen and Brad Hall, Brad Hall it still be

0:18:47 > 0:18:52new driver and is still learning but he can get it right on the date, is

0:18:52 > 0:18:55whether he can be consistent. Lamin Deen as well. The rate is over to

0:18:55 > 0:19:00Matt Gohdes, you have four runs but they all count. And they only have

0:19:00 > 0:19:06one medal -- the race is over two days. The bonus with short-track

0:19:06 > 0:19:11speed skating is lots of action, Elise Christie had three chances. We

0:19:11 > 0:19:17know it can go wrong, but what do you expect from her?Just to see

0:19:17 > 0:19:21that smile on her face, to get out there and put in a performance that

0:19:21 > 0:19:26she knows she can do and if she does it, it could be raining medals and

0:19:26 > 0:19:32some big history made. Like we said about team-mates stepping up, we

0:19:32 > 0:19:35could see Charlotte Gilmartin stepping up and Cap Thompson as

0:19:35 > 0:19:42well. -- Kathryn Thomson.We know the Koreans love their short-track

0:19:42 > 0:19:46speed skating and a lot of competitive skaters so is there a

0:19:46 > 0:19:52danger they might block out Elise in the early rounds?I think so, it is

0:19:52 > 0:19:58part of the sport. They will try to target Elise to stop her but she is

0:19:58 > 0:20:02good enough and she is a world-class athlete. She is a world champion.

0:20:02 > 0:20:07They will target her but she is good enough to beat them.Amazing stories

0:20:07 > 0:20:12across the British team and other nations of unlikely contenders. Dave

0:20:12 > 0:20:19Ryding has to be on that list given he did not start skiing on the snow

0:20:19 > 0:20:23until he was 15.He becomes from Pendle dry ski slope, we always have

0:20:23 > 0:20:27this excuse that we don't have snow but we have so much determination as

0:20:27 > 0:20:31a nation and sometimes it is nice to be an underdog. He went to Kitzbuhel

0:20:31 > 0:20:34and got his first podium in front of all the Austrians, beating Marcel

0:20:34 > 0:20:40Hirscher will and they hated that! He had nothing to prove apart from

0:20:40 > 0:20:47to go down and do it. But we heard at the opening ceremony a gentleman

0:20:47 > 0:20:51from Ecuador carrying the flag, any roller skis, practising his event on

0:20:51 > 0:20:56tarmac. We have artificial ski racers like Dave making the

0:20:56 > 0:21:00transition and a cross-country skier from Ecuador who trained on tarmac.

0:21:00 > 0:21:05Amazing. We will show you highlights of the opening ceremony in a moment

0:21:05 > 0:21:08or so but carrying the flag for Great Britain will be Lizzy Yarnold

0:21:08 > 0:21:13and she has been talking to Matt Pinsent.

0:21:13 > 0:21:17You have been chosen as the flag bearer, what kind of honour is that

0:21:17 > 0:21:23in your career? It is an honour that I never really thought about but it

0:21:23 > 0:21:28means so much. The flag represents the whole team. And as a team we

0:21:28 > 0:21:35represent everyone in Great Britain who has watched us and supported us.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37For our parents to watch us, grandparents watching at home, that

0:21:37 > 0:21:43is the moment when they say, Great Britain, your skin tingles and the

0:21:43 > 0:21:51emotions begin. They know how to put on a show in South Korea. It started

0:21:51 > 0:21:56with images of wind Lubitz gone by. Starting in Chamonix -- Winter

0:21:56 > 0:22:01Olympics.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03Lillehammer, Nagano in 1998, Salt Lake where our curlers made

0:22:03 > 0:22:06a nation so proud with that historic gold, Vancouver where Amy slid

0:22:06 > 0:22:09to glory, and of course four years ago in Sochi where we were treated

0:22:09 > 0:22:14to our greatest ever medal haul.

0:22:14 > 0:22:19It seems remarkable that there were so many Winter Olympics where we

0:22:19 > 0:22:23watched other nations but never considered ourselves contenders. It

0:22:23 > 0:22:26is different now, so many different athletes who are there and want to

0:22:26 > 0:22:31make their mark. The opening ceremony is when we all feel the

0:22:31 > 0:22:32curtain raising.

0:22:32 > 0:22:39We can now join our commentary team of John Hunt and Robin Cousins.

0:22:42 > 0:22:46Here we go, the countdown upon us, this is the belt of peace, the Bell

0:22:46 > 0:22:53Sangwon Temple. And the sound of it according to legend calmed the waves

0:22:53 > 0:23:03and brought peace.

0:23:03 > 0:23:09and brought peace. The Olympic rings lit up multicoloured, the Sliding

0:23:09 > 0:23:17Centre in the background. A nice start, isn't it?It's beautiful.

0:23:22 > 0:23:3035,000 expected to be here.Walking over the bridges to come to the

0:23:30 > 0:23:35venue, the firework blocks are frozen into the river. That's

0:23:35 > 0:23:44lovely, isn't it? A really nice start. So, a journey, five children

0:23:44 > 0:23:49we will see throughout the night, travelling to the past and the

0:23:49 > 0:23:53future is tailored about the history and culture of their land, finding

0:23:53 > 0:24:00answers and the question of peace. The colours of their costumes also

0:24:00 > 0:24:05symbolise the five elements, red for flyer, black for water, blue for

0:24:05 > 0:24:12wood, white for metal and yellow for the Earth. -- red for fire.We have

0:24:12 > 0:24:20Haenarae, Ara, Puri, Bichae and Nuri. And the five colours also

0:24:20 > 0:24:26symbolise the five colours of the Olympic rings.

0:24:26 > 0:24:34The tiger makes his way to the centre of the stage and when he

0:24:34 > 0:24:41roars, with his black stripes, you can see spreading onto the stage,

0:24:41 > 0:24:49they transform into the Baekdudaegan mountain range which begins at Mount

0:24:49 > 0:24:52Baekdu.

0:25:05 > 0:25:13The White Tiger and the children to be joined now by a vast array

0:25:13 > 0:25:23wonderful animals and plants from land and water. Wild boar, flowers,

0:25:23 > 0:25:32butterflies.

0:25:37 > 0:25:46The Vermilion Bird.

0:26:35 > 0:26:46And now we get our first look at Ung-nyeo who is a character from the

0:26:46 > 0:26:49creation myth, and according to the myth she was a bear but after

0:26:49 > 0:26:59praying for a hundred days she became a woman. She married the

0:27:00 > 0:27:06heavenly King, D, and gave

0:27:06 > 0:27:08heavenly King, D, and gave birth to Dangun, the founder of the Korean

0:27:08 > 0:27:20nation. -- the heavenly King, Hwanung. Two additional characters

0:27:20 > 0:27:30joining the stage, the Phoenix and the curious half man, half bird. The

0:27:30 > 0:27:36Phoenix a mythical animal, a bird that lives a thousand years and

0:27:36 > 0:27:43flies between heaven and earth. It is said that the Phoenix only

0:27:43 > 0:27:52appears during a peaceful time.

0:28:55 > 0:29:03And now the first use of augmented reality tonight, the image we are

0:29:03 > 0:29:09seeing at home pretty spectacular.

0:29:25 > 0:29:31And the formal introductions, firstly the president, Moon Jae-in

0:29:31 > 0:29:38who was sworn in the following his victory in May 2017 to replace the

0:29:38 > 0:29:44country Butt first female president. -- the country's first female

0:29:44 > 0:29:53president.Please welcome the President of South Korea and the

0:29:53 > 0:29:56president of the Olympic commission. A key theme tonight of unification

0:29:56 > 0:30:05between North and south.Certainly the audience here are loving, crying

0:30:05 > 0:30:08at the fact that the unification is happening in this stadium tonight

0:30:08 > 0:30:15with this ceremony and I think hopes of a longer-term truce are expected

0:30:15 > 0:30:18and hoped for but certainly the crowd here feels very honoured and

0:30:18 > 0:30:24blessed that these two great countries are coming together.

0:30:24 > 0:30:27Ladies and gentlemen, please stand for the national anthem of the

0:30:27 > 0:30:29Republic of Korea.

0:30:46 > 0:30:57National Anthem of the republic of Korea.

0:31:09 > 0:31:17NATIONAL ANTHEM OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA.

0:31:52 > 0:31:57Nearly 2.5 billion people expected to watch the games. These are the

0:31:57 > 0:32:02potential stars. Greece traditionally begin the parade.

0:32:02 > 0:32:08Tradition dictates they always head the parade. They are represented by

0:32:08 > 0:32:16four athletes, two alpine skiers and two cross-country skiers.

0:32:16 > 0:32:24Officials of course walk with athletes as well.

0:32:30 > 0:32:36Nigeria, their flag bearer. She is from the sport of bobsleigh and of

0:32:36 > 0:32:40course that is the big headline here, the women's bobsleigh team

0:32:40 > 0:32:46will be the first African bobsleigh to have appeared at a Winter

0:32:46 > 0:32:51Olympics.

0:32:58 > 0:33:06Here come Norway. The most prolific of all the Winter Olympic nation,

0:33:06 > 0:33:19have won more medals an any other. 329. Their flag bearer

0:33:19 > 0:33:25329. Their flag bearer is a four time biathlete.

0:33:27 > 0:33:32They have 13 and 12 medals representatively.

0:33:32 > 0:33:39Now Germany, a mighty team, 154 in strength, Germany sit third on the

0:33:39 > 0:33:44all time Winter Olympic medal table tee behind Norway and United States.

0:33:44 > 0:33:51Watch out for the sliders. The luge starts tomorrow, Felix Loch

0:33:51 > 0:33:57will attempt to win another medal there. Our flag bearer is Eric

0:33:57 > 0:34:06Frenzel. He has won the last five overall World Cup titles.

0:34:10 > 0:34:14Jacqueline Yurling looks to be the one Lizzy Yarnold has most to fear

0:34:14 > 0:34:20for. The United States. The flag bearer is Erin Hamlin who is the

0:34:20 > 0:34:24fourth luger to earn the honour. She is getting married this year as

0:34:24 > 0:34:29well. Quite a time she is having. The US have a host of favourites.

0:34:29 > 0:34:35Shaun White will attempt to win a third halfpipe title and he is in

0:34:35 > 0:34:44form. Chloe Kim is woman's snowboarding answer to him. A

0:34:44 > 0:34:48halfpipe gold medal favourite. She is sure to get a great reception

0:34:48 > 0:34:54given both her parents hail from Korea. Vancouver 2010 gold medallist

0:34:54 > 0:34:59Lyndsey Vonn is back. She warmed up for Pyeongchang with three

0:34:59 > 0:35:06consecutive World Cup victory, the last came in early February in

0:35:06 > 0:35:13Germany, and in Michaela Schifrin became the youngest champion and is

0:35:13 > 0:35:18being tipped to win a host of medals in Pyeongchang. Switzerland and the

0:35:18 > 0:35:23flag bearer

0:35:24 > 0:35:30flag bearer is a three time Olympian. Cross-country skier.

0:35:35 > 0:35:41Watch out for iPod, that is the athlete who upset Shaun White. He

0:35:41 > 0:35:46will mark his return from a serious knee injury and a heavy crash in the

0:35:46 > 0:35:51E games by defending his title in South Korea. We welcome Great

0:35:51 > 0:35:59Britain. Lizzy Yarnold. Skeleton hero from Sochi. What a moment for

0:35:59 > 0:36:04Lizzy. Looking to defend her title despite an inconsistent season to

0:36:04 > 0:36:11date. She won in Sochi but nearly a second. Katie Summerhayes with her

0:36:11 > 0:36:18sister Molly who

0:36:18 > 0:36:27sister Molly who works in McDonalds and Izzy Atkin.

0:36:27 > 0:36:33and Izzy Atkin. We wish them all well. Austria have twice hosted the

0:36:33 > 0:36:43Winter Olympic, 19644 and 1976 slalom superstar marshall Herscher

0:36:43 > 0:36:47has yet to win the Winter Olympics. A win for him would be one of the

0:36:47 > 0:37:03biggest stories of the games. Annan Veith. She is the flag bearer.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07Now the Olympic Athletes from Russia. So much talk about Russian

0:37:07 > 0:37:13involve skating. Here of course, we will be hearing from IOC President

0:37:13 > 0:37:20Thomas Bach before too long. They up held the bans of course, today. From

0:37:20 > 0:37:27earlier in the month. Among others, though, they do have some

0:37:27 > 0:37:32sensational figure skaters. They do, two young ladies fighting for a gold

0:37:32 > 0:37:38medal, in fact three that could

0:37:39 > 0:37:42medal, in fact three that could be on the podium,The 1988 Winter

0:37:42 > 0:37:45Olympics in Calgariry saw the Jamaicans have a bobsleigh team. It

0:37:45 > 0:37:51ended in tears on the ice with the four-man crew disqualified. However,

0:37:51 > 0:37:56that setback ultimately helped spawn the film Cool Runnings based on

0:37:56 > 0:38:01events in Canada. 30 years on from that, Jamaica will be represented in

0:38:01 > 0:38:08the women's bobsleigh competition for the first time.

0:38:11 > 0:38:14for the first time. She qualifies for Jamaica as her father is from

0:38:14 > 0:38:22the Caribbean island. Stand by for the roar of the night.

0:38:22 > 0:38:27And a truly historic moment. Here in Pyeongchang.

0:38:27 > 0:38:36Welcome the children back from their time travels earlier.

0:38:36 > 0:38:43time travels earlier. The unified team under a unified flag of Korea.

0:38:58 > 0:39:07The flag is held by Chung Gum and Hwang Yunjong Won. Hard to

0:39:07 > 0:39:11understand what this means to South Koreans who some would agree are

0:39:11 > 0:39:16still at war.But there is nothing like sport and you say, almost to

0:39:16 > 0:39:20point of cliche that you see people who have one thing in common and

0:39:20 > 0:39:24that is is a love of sport that brings countries and nations

0:39:24 > 0:39:29together and athletes together. Politics and religion out the win

0:39:29 > 0:39:32ghoen it comes to sport from the athletes who performed from the

0:39:32 > 0:39:38heart. -- window when. We were told people

0:39:38 > 0:39:44were sobbing in the audience, wanting to be here early and be

0:39:44 > 0:39:49round and see this moment happen. It is incredibly inspiring.

0:39:49 > 0:39:56It has attracted some of the major players on the world political

0:39:56 > 0:40:02scene, Mike Pence, US Vice President is here and also here which some can

0:40:02 > 0:40:10scarily believe is the sister of Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea,

0:40:10 > 0:40:21here in the stadium tonight.

0:40:22 > 0:40:27This will the competition of your life. Over the next days, the world

0:40:27 > 0:40:34will be looking for you to inspiration. You will inspire us

0:40:34 > 0:40:41all, to live together in peace, and harmony. Despite all the differences

0:40:41 > 0:40:50we have. You will inspire us by competing for the highest honour in

0:40:50 > 0:41:00the Olympic spirit of excellence, respect, and fair play. You can only

0:41:00 > 0:41:02really enjoy your Olympic performance if you respect the

0:41:02 > 0:41:13rules. And stay clean. Only then will your lifelong memories be the

0:41:13 > 0:41:22memories of a true and worthy Olympian.Move on now to the Olympic

0:41:22 > 0:41:27rings, this has been pretty much top secret how they do this. Just one

0:41:27 > 0:41:36aspect of the ceremony they did not want for anybody to be aware of. Use

0:41:36 > 0:41:42of augmented reality again.

0:42:01 > 0:42:09Hundred skiers and lights, with drones racing down the slope, as if

0:42:09 > 0:42:21to show the co-existence of humans and technology.

0:43:02 > 0:43:17Now it had to be. Gold list in Vancouver. And turned this country

0:43:17 > 0:43:22on its head, and became Queen almost overnight, and she is one of the

0:43:22 > 0:43:26most revered athletes this country has ever

0:43:26 > 0:43:36She is so charming and so lovely. Sochi was a big dispoints skating.

0:43:36 > 0:43:41For many fan, she skated beautifully, where she was given the

0:43:41 > 0:43:46gold.

0:43:49 > 0:43:54gold.A perfect choice Robin? They both skated brilliantly, the judges

0:43:54 > 0:43:59made their decision.

0:44:00 > 0:44:09made their decision. I was in the Kim Yuna camp.

0:44:09 > 0:44:15Kim Yuna camp. A megasuperstar in this country.

0:45:04 > 0:45:10A tremendously emotional moment I suppose for any athlete, Olympian.

0:45:10 > 0:45:14Whether you are fortunate enough to be a torch bearer and I was lucky in

0:45:14 > 0:45:19London, I got to carry the torch during the relay, but to be part of

0:45:19 > 0:45:24it, again for these athletes, to sit down, for the audience to sit, and

0:45:24 > 0:45:30this now, the reality, the torch has been lit. The flame is alight. Yes,

0:45:30 > 0:45:38the games are now officially open.

0:45:40 > 0:45:43That was a phenomenal opening ceremony, a beautiful mixture of

0:45:43 > 0:45:48traditional stuff like the puppets and the drumming and the drones!Oh

0:45:48 > 0:45:53my gosh!

0:45:53 > 0:45:56my gosh!1218 drones! Turning into the Olympic rings, I had never seen

0:45:56 > 0:46:01anything like that. That is some incredible programming, someone has

0:46:01 > 0:46:06spent hours doing it.And they took a big risk because they never tried

0:46:06 > 0:46:09them below -10 Celsius so they kept them in this warm hub and brought

0:46:09 > 0:46:12them out minutes before. Can you imagine if something went wrong but

0:46:12 > 0:46:18nothing went wrong. It seemed to be they got the athletes out quicker

0:46:18 > 0:46:21and onto those heated seats but there were moments of real emotion

0:46:21 > 0:46:28and I loved the lighting of the flame and the cauldron, that was

0:46:28 > 0:46:32beautiful and Kim Yuna, there was definitely a tear in her eye.As

0:46:32 > 0:46:38athletes, when you see that Olympic flame it actually means so much and

0:46:38 > 0:46:42if you have been part of analytic torch relay or not, to see the

0:46:42 > 0:46:45flame, that is when you know it's real and it's the Olympics. They

0:46:45 > 0:46:50could probably feel the heat off it and that is the spine tingling

0:46:50 > 0:46:55moment, this is the start of the Games.A lot of athletes don't make

0:46:55 > 0:46:57it to the opening ceremony, competing tomorrow, the short tract

0:46:57 > 0:47:04speed skating team were not there, but Lizzy Yarnold carrying the flag,

0:47:04 > 0:47:06you know what it's like. Her heart rate would have been going through

0:47:06 > 0:47:12the roof! And about the torch as well, that is when the athlete

0:47:12 > 0:47:16really feel it has begun. You were impressed because sometimes she did

0:47:16 > 0:47:21it with one hand and you struggled with that with your muscles!I think

0:47:21 > 0:47:26a lot of changing Japan's! We like the kit, very smart. Very warm, that

0:47:26 > 0:47:32is the main thing.Warmer than other things! The image of the opening

0:47:32 > 0:47:38ceremony in terms of athlete was the United Korean team and Thomas Bach

0:47:38 > 0:47:43made reference to it, saying this was the symbol of the world, and

0:47:43 > 0:47:48athlete from its country carrying the flag and the United team walking

0:47:48 > 0:47:51out together. I think that is the bigger message.

0:47:51 > 0:47:54On the highlights programme we're going to focus on the lighter

0:47:54 > 0:47:55side of the Olympics.

0:47:55 > 0:48:02Let's go off piste.

0:48:02 > 0:48:12We going to see selfies and plenty of things, this was Team GB just

0:48:12 > 0:48:15before the opening ceremony started, surrounded by the obsolete team and

0:48:15 > 0:48:20the skeleton competitors for the Aimee Fuller got in with the

0:48:20 > 0:48:26Jamaican bobsleigh team! I ensure she will be part of our commentary

0:48:26 > 0:48:31team as well. Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes have the figures they

0:48:31 > 0:48:35didn't -- of figure skating ahead of them. Andrew Musgrave is competing

0:48:35 > 0:48:43on Sunday but was getting in the mood. Norway had a bit of a mix-up

0:48:43 > 0:48:50in communications, they thought they ordered 1500 eggs and got 15,000!

0:48:50 > 0:48:54Out then you get the numbers wrong when you're typing them?Athletes

0:48:54 > 0:49:04love eggs!We have a very special feature every night, calling it Red

0:49:04 > 0:49:07Hot, Ice Cold.

0:49:10 > 0:49:17We all know preparation is key. Communication? Not so much.

0:49:17 > 0:49:24Teamwork... Bad luck. The competition has started in the mixed

0:49:24 > 0:49:29curling.

0:49:32 > 0:49:36curling. This was Swiss curling, a six stone finish. Action underway in

0:49:36 > 0:49:44the moguls, a lot of support for the home competitors. And the start of

0:49:44 > 0:49:49the opening ceremony, as he was two years ago in Rio, Pita Taufatofua of

0:49:49 > 0:49:57Tonga, coming in with his oiled chest, he was definitely red hot!

0:49:57 > 0:50:01And it is very cold out in Korea. Here is Radzi.

0:50:05 > 0:50:08Pyeongchang is situated in the mountains 700 metres above sea level

0:50:08 > 0:50:12which the locals claim is perfect for healthy living. However,

0:50:12 > 0:50:16alongside that is the weather, the buried come very cold weather. --

0:50:16 > 0:50:21very, very cold weather.

0:50:25 > 0:50:32The Pyeongchang area is the coldest place in Korea because this place is

0:50:32 > 0:50:37a mountainous area. Average temperature in February is about -11

0:50:37 > 0:50:46Celsius.It really is cold, in fact, look at this. I know it is supposed

0:50:46 > 0:50:50to be cold, it is the Winter Olympics but the coldest on record

0:50:50 > 0:50:57was 1994 in Lillehammer. That Jim Norwegian thermometers reached as

0:50:57 > 0:51:02low as -11 degrees. If temperatures stay this low, could that effect the

0:51:02 > 0:51:152018 Winter Olympics? We continue to ask the operators that each

0:51:15 > 0:51:19temperature is possible to operate the games and they say it depends on

0:51:19 > 0:51:23the situation. And that situation is largely determined by the amount of

0:51:23 > 0:51:27time the athlete spent outside in the freezing climates. For an Alpine

0:51:27 > 0:51:33racer is less than two minutes. But a cross-country skier is more like

0:51:33 > 0:51:36two hours. Whatever the amount of time, a crucial element is the kit

0:51:36 > 0:51:42they wear to cope with the frosty conditions. With around 60 Team GB

0:51:42 > 0:51:46athletes travelling to Pyeongchang, that is a lot of sports and a lot of

0:51:46 > 0:51:52kit.Four years ago we were walking around in shorts and flip-flops in

0:51:52 > 0:51:57Sochi.Really?It's great to be part of an Olympic Games in the winter

0:51:57 > 0:52:03when it is cold. Everybody got about 110 items of kit, there is

0:52:03 > 0:52:06competition where and generic village clothing. The puffer

0:52:06 > 0:52:11jackets, woolly hats, scarves and gloves, hand warmers to keep

0:52:11 > 0:52:17everybody warm.Do you think the cold might help or hinder Team GB?

0:52:17 > 0:52:22Help. Cross-country is a great example, the preparations they have

0:52:22 > 0:52:26done and the work in the background getting their skis right, it is

0:52:26 > 0:52:29ideal so they are having a great time on the track. And on the

0:52:29 > 0:52:35Sliding Centre, the first few runs were good so we are in great shape

0:52:35 > 0:52:39and the cold weather is looking to benefit Team GB.For the first ever

0:52:39 > 0:52:44I'm hoping it cold?Absolutely!

0:52:44 > 0:52:48How do you protect yourself from the extreme temperatures? Question

0:52:48 > 0:52:50adapted with the last minute?

0:52:52 > 0:52:55Absolutely last-minute, we worked out how quickly our body lost

0:52:55 > 0:53:00temperature, they will have electric things in their salad pets, hand

0:53:00 > 0:53:06warmers, it's important to give your muscles really warm. We would take

0:53:06 > 0:53:09air temperature, humidity, ice temperature and all affect what

0:53:09 > 0:53:13equipment you use.Is there different kit for extreme conditions

0:53:13 > 0:53:18for extreme conditions for Alpine events? No. The fastest skiers can

0:53:18 > 0:53:22go and what they are wearing is under the like with wet nothing at

0:53:22 > 0:53:26all, skin to wind so do you sacrifice your time by being warmer

0:53:26 > 0:53:32or goat for the win? The guys don't wear much and become the girls

0:53:32 > 0:53:36neither, they tape up their faces from any skin is exposed as with the

0:53:36 > 0:53:41wind chill you will get frostbite. And the boot flexed changes and it

0:53:41 > 0:53:45gets brilliant scientific because the guys are used to skiing at a

0:53:45 > 0:53:51certain flex but it is solid and they take up a hairdryer! We are

0:53:51 > 0:53:59trying our ski boots! We will be watching out for that. One place the

0:53:59 > 0:54:02temperature does not change is inside the rink at the short-track

0:54:02 > 0:54:02speed skating.

0:54:02 > 0:54:05Elise starts her campaign tomorrow qualifying in the 500 metres.

0:54:07 > 0:54:17When I'm on the ice I'm free. Speed, movement, power. On the edge, never

0:54:17 > 0:54:24fully in control no one ever can be. Turmoil for Elise Christie!Being

0:54:24 > 0:54:30disqualified in Sochi hurt. Not as much as the death threats and

0:54:30 > 0:54:34bullying that came with it. I had a lot of abuse on the intranet and

0:54:34 > 0:54:39stuff. -- Ronnie internet.

0:54:39 > 0:54:44I thought about never skating again. It took me two years to get over

0:54:44 > 0:54:57that. It made me tougher than I ever thought I could be. I thought, I can

0:54:57 > 0:55:06do this. I will do this. I'm not scared.

0:55:08 > 0:55:12Christy aiming to become the first British woman to win a short-track

0:55:12 > 0:55:17world title.I am ready for the spotlight.Christie leading the

0:55:17 > 0:55:21charge, it's going to be tight, she's done it! She is the world

0:55:21 > 0:55:26champion, Elise Christie! Here comes Christie on the inside and it is

0:55:26 > 0:55:35another gold medal!Proving something to the world, won gold,

0:55:35 > 0:55:40two golds, three golds.The overall title coup Elise Christie.When

0:55:40 > 0:55:43something breaks your heart it takes time to love it again but I'm

0:55:43 > 0:55:46smiling now.

0:55:46 > 0:55:50You were her team-mate for many years and she is smiling again. This

0:55:50 > 0:55:55could be one of the great sporting stories ever.I think so, I think

0:55:55 > 0:56:00she will come back strong, she is smiling but hopefully she will be on

0:56:00 > 0:56:03the top step of the podium in a couple of weeks. What that she had

0:56:03 > 0:56:09to do in qualification? Stay safe? Yes, it is a sprint event, 500

0:56:09 > 0:56:13metres, so people are close together and things can go wrong but if she

0:56:13 > 0:56:18keeps clean tomorrow, she has a good lane draw so hopefully she will

0:56:18 > 0:56:22cruise through. She will be in heat four and have the number one on her

0:56:22 > 0:56:26helmet as world champion and she told me that only the world

0:56:26 > 0:56:31champions are allowed to wear gold boots.Isn't that a target on the

0:56:31 > 0:56:39back?It's on her feet!The number one!The coverage starts tonight.

0:56:39 > 0:56:41Qualifying for the men's snowboard slopestyle gets underway.

0:56:41 > 0:56:44Jamie Nicholls and Billy Morgan go for GB.

0:56:46 > 0:56:52This is how you can watch.

0:56:52 > 0:56:58The Winter Olympics across the BBC, follow the action live from midnight

0:56:58 > 0:57:04until midday on BBC TV and iPlayer, BBC Cap! Breakfast and Radio 5 Live

0:57:04 > 0:57:07will bring you the best of the overnight action and headlined each

0:57:07 > 0:57:12morning. The action continues in the afternoon with extended highlight

0:57:12 > 0:57:16and every evening catch all the latest news with today at the games

0:57:16 > 0:57:22and more catch up on BBC Four. And full coverage is available on the

0:57:22 > 0:57:23BBC sport website and app.

0:57:28 > 0:57:33Let's find out what you are most looking forward to.Everything is

0:57:33 > 0:57:37just amazing to watch but something like the slopestyle is phenomenal,

0:57:37 > 0:57:41they are going higher than a double-decker bus doing flips and

0:57:41 > 0:57:46turns and hoping to land on two skis. That is one to watch. It has

0:57:46 > 0:57:52to be the short-track, four athletes competing tomorrow. And hopefully

0:57:52 > 0:57:57the girls qualify in the first round and set themselves up.It has to be

0:57:57 > 0:58:03the agility and risk of the men's slalom and Dave Ryding but like Amy,

0:58:03 > 0:58:06the skier cross, always a great event, bigger and harder and the

0:58:06 > 0:58:10terrain is brutal and so epic to watch.Just so much to enjoy.

0:58:10 > 0:58:13Well, all the action kicks off in just over four hours on BBC One

0:58:13 > 0:58:14with the men's slopestyle.

0:58:14 > 0:58:17In the women's slopestyle back in Sochi, an athlete made history

0:58:17 > 0:58:19by becoming the first ever British medallist on snow.

0:58:19 > 0:58:26It's difficult to keep up with the Jones.

0:58:27 > 0:58:33Next up, Jenny Jones. Currently lying in fifth place. She is a

0:58:33 > 0:58:42bachelor, a champion. --

0:58:42 > 0:58:48bachelor, a champion. -- battler. Great grab, looking very solid.

0:58:55 > 0:59:01Jenny Jones has just taken Britain's first ever Olympic medal on snow.
