:00:10. > :00:19.I am the dreadful menace, the one whose win is done. The haunting

:00:20. > :00:24.chill upon your neck, I am the conundrum.

:00:25. > :00:33.A very good start indeed for Great Britain. Amy Williams is the queen

:00:34. > :00:42.of speed! Oh, and they have all gone! He is over. And the United

:00:43. > :00:53.States has beaten the Soviet Union! She has done it! That's it!

:00:54. > :01:08.Hello and welcome back to Sochi and the British team are still

:01:09. > :01:14.celebrating after Jenny Jones's bronze medal, which has given the

:01:15. > :01:17.best ever start for a British team at the Winter live. This is our home

:01:18. > :01:20.for our highlights programme and during the course of this, we will

:01:21. > :01:25.bring you up-to-date on absolutely everything that has been going on

:01:26. > :01:26.down in the coastal cluster, at the sliding Centre and in the mountains.

:01:27. > :01:45.Here is here is what is coming up. We are heading for the bumpy hills

:01:46. > :01:51.for the final run in the men's moguls.

:01:52. > :01:57.There was drama at the short track with Jack Welbourne setting a new

:01:58. > :02:03.British record, to put himself in medal contention.

:02:04. > :02:06.And as the curling started, we will catch up with both the British men's

:02:07. > :02:19.and women's teams. So, lots to pack in between now and

:02:20. > :02:24.eight o'clock but first of all, we are heading straight back to a

:02:25. > :02:28.packed... The Russian fans are getting excited but it is that Maple

:02:29. > :02:32.Leaf, the Canadians who have a lot to shout about. Graham Bell is there

:02:33. > :02:39.at the finish area. How do you see the medals going? I think that

:02:40. > :02:44.Canada are pretty much guaranteed a medal. They've got three through in

:02:45. > :02:51.the second round, one, two and three. The Russian got a massive

:02:52. > :02:56.cheer and hopefully, we can see him squeeze through. They go in reverse

:02:57. > :03:01.order on the second run to the top six will be reversed. It means the

:03:02. > :03:04.last three to scheme will all be Canadians. It's going to be an

:03:05. > :03:11.interesting battle between the reigning champion and the new kid on

:03:12. > :03:15.the block, Michael Kingsbury. They don't train together. They don't

:03:16. > :03:18.necessarily get on that well together so it could be an

:03:19. > :03:25.interesting battle within Canada. Then we got the Russian missile as

:03:26. > :03:30.well, who could upset them all. Graham, just for people tuning in

:03:31. > :03:33.now, and who have not seen mogul before, explain what they have to do

:03:34. > :03:40.and how much it is a balance between speed and style.

:03:41. > :03:49.Speed counts for 25% of the mark only. The two jumps account for 25%

:03:50. > :03:53.of the mark. The real essence of mogul is in the turns. If you look

:03:54. > :04:00.at how close the feet are together, how close the knees are together, if

:04:01. > :04:04.there is any deviation from that, if a ski comes flicking away, if skis

:04:05. > :04:08.cross, then that will be a deduction in the mark. What you need to see is

:04:09. > :04:14.good, clean skiing. We saw a lot of out-of-control skiing in round one.

:04:15. > :04:20.Being fast doesn't necessarily guarantee you will go through.

:04:21. > :04:34.It looks like another warm night. How is it in terms of the snow

:04:35. > :04:39.conditions and for actual skiing? It got quite warm today. The Russian

:04:40. > :04:43.hat isn't on tonight so it is not that cold but it is perfect for

:04:44. > :04:48.mogul skiing. He needed slightly soft, then you can get the skis

:04:49. > :04:51.bouncing through the ruts and bumps slightly faster than if it is just

:04:52. > :04:55.sheet ice all the way from top to bottom. I think that the conditions

:04:56. > :04:58.denied are absolutely perfect for mogul skiing. Think we are going to

:04:59. > :05:05.see a demonstration from the Canadian team. You saw there, the

:05:06. > :05:10.line-up of the final six. They will be the men fighting it out for the

:05:11. > :05:14.medals. Three from Canada, one from Kazakhstan, one from the USA and one

:05:15. > :05:15.from Russia, who almost certainly will get the biggest cheer of the

:05:16. > :05:34.lot. Thank you, Claire. The judges are

:05:35. > :05:37.lined up. Lots of pressure on them now. Four of pressure on them now.

:05:38. > :05:45.For the mother kidnapped turns, two of them are not get the air. Turns

:05:46. > :05:54.make up 50% of the mark. -- for Rotherham are looking at the turns.

:05:55. > :06:06.It will be the American who will get things underway. They are jammed in

:06:07. > :06:17.here. It... 250 metres long. They cover the mogul field in around 25

:06:18. > :06:23.seconds. The final flakes of snow are scraped off the skis. They need

:06:24. > :06:29.to be cleaned. The first man is ready to go. He was the bronze

:06:30. > :06:42.medallist at the world Championships last time. He is visualising his

:06:43. > :06:48.aerial manoeuvres. He looks pretty cool and calm, Patrick Deneen.

:06:49. > :06:57.Sometimes it's good to go first in a situation like this. A 26-year-old

:06:58. > :07:07.American. He is ready to ski for the final time. Waiting for the count.

:07:08. > :07:13.Patrick Deneen gets phase three underway.

:07:14. > :07:23.Nine turns. Jump another one. Pretty good. We got the landing down. Now

:07:24. > :07:26.he goes to work, through the bumps. He's absorbing everything that's

:07:27. > :07:30.coming his way. He's always the fastest man from top to bottom. It

:07:31. > :07:34.looks like he might be again. Massive distance on that final

:07:35. > :07:41.floating jump. A good start to the final. And Deneen sets the pace.

:07:42. > :07:47.That is nearly two seconds inside pace time.

:07:48. > :07:58.He sits down on the comfy chair with his coach, to contemplate what was

:07:59. > :08:02.good and what was not so good. He just got that final lateral rotation

:08:03. > :08:07.round. The skis were a little separated as he touched the snow on

:08:08. > :08:11.landing there. He wasn't in full control for the entire run between

:08:12. > :08:17.the two kickers. This was a good finish. Backflip, iron Cross. I

:08:18. > :08:21.don't think it is going to win a gold medal but he might, you never

:08:22. > :08:26.know, hang on for a medal of some description. He is certainly in gold

:08:27. > :08:51.medal position at the moment. This 25-year-old from Kazakhstan has

:08:52. > :08:58.had a cracking competition so far. He has barely foot -- put a foot

:08:59. > :09:03.wrong. He could get in amongst the medals. That was a little scrappy,

:09:04. > :09:07.coming to the first kicker. A full twisting back somersault but it was

:09:08. > :09:14.not perfect. Maybe his luck has run out. These are good turns down the

:09:15. > :09:22.central mogul lying. He is really turning it on after the early

:09:23. > :09:31.mistake. A solid landing. Not as fast as his predecessor but under 25

:09:32. > :09:35.seconds. Dmitri Reiherd keeping the Kazakhstan supporters in raptures at

:09:36. > :09:41.the moment. His job is done. Down to the judges now. Just a little

:09:42. > :09:45.mistake of the final turn before he set the skis straight to take the

:09:46. > :09:49.kicker. He didn't seem to be in full control. Will it be enough to move

:09:50. > :10:27.him ahead of Patrick Deneen? It is going to be tight. 22.8, he

:10:28. > :10:34.leads. He is in gold medal position for the moment.

:10:35. > :10:50.What pressure here on Alex... He goes about his work now. Full

:10:51. > :10:55.twisting back somersault. A solid landing. Down the central mogul is.

:10:56. > :11:00.Just a loss of control with the right to ski pole. The judges will

:11:01. > :11:05.have spotted that. Now he is back in the groove. Fast speed. Kicker

:11:06. > :11:11.number two coming his way. He goes for the double tip round. He crosses

:11:12. > :11:18.the line in 24.94. Not perfect. It should be good enough for first, I

:11:19. > :11:27.think. I reckon that will be our new leader in the men's moguls final.

:11:28. > :11:29.They are going crazy here. They Russian on the verge of moving into

:11:30. > :11:42.gold medal position. That is where he stabbed his poll

:11:43. > :11:49.and lost full control for a split second but this is worth seeing

:11:50. > :11:59.again. P goes. Hands forward. Beautifully done. That will be the

:12:00. > :12:06.new leader here. By how much? 24 plus would give him a shot. It wants

:12:07. > :12:15.to 24.34. Just the three Canadian flat to come. Just the Olympic

:12:16. > :12:21.champion, the world champion and Gagnon, who has been in incredible

:12:22. > :12:30.form, irresistible form tonight. The one two, three at the moment. The

:12:31. > :12:38.defending champion is ready to go for the final time. Alexandre

:12:39. > :12:43.Bilodeau for Canada. The winner in Vancouver four years ago. As

:12:44. > :12:50.Mesquite perfectly tonight, and he produces best when required at the

:12:51. > :12:56.last round? -- has not skied perfectly tonight. This is

:12:57. > :13:01.brilliant. This is why years the Olympic champion with three World

:13:02. > :13:09.Cup wins this season. That is massive. Incredible run. That will

:13:10. > :13:15.put him in Gold medal position and in doing so guarantees him another

:13:16. > :13:19.medal with two to come. Even the Russians are applauding that.

:13:20. > :13:34.Alexandre Bilodeau saving his best until his final, incredible run. He

:13:35. > :13:41.was up there for ever. The turns in the middle part of the course were

:13:42. > :13:46.electric. That is the best of Alexandre Bilodeau right when it

:13:47. > :13:58.matters the most. He soars above the snow and into the night sky. 24.34

:13:59. > :14:07.is the score to beach to push Alexandr Smyshlyaev down into silver

:14:08. > :14:13.medal position. Yes, 26.31, he will get another medal with just the

:14:14. > :14:19.other two Canadians left to go. Gagnon next and then Kingsbury. The

:14:20. > :14:24.Canadians are celebrating, the clean sweep is still on four of them, they

:14:25. > :14:29.have got two out of three for the women, they have got one out of

:14:30. > :14:40.three so far. Patrick Deneen moves away as they take their positions.

:14:41. > :14:46.Gagnon has skied superbly organised. One more time. One more run. Onto

:14:47. > :14:55.the hill. Nine turns before the first kicker. He goes. Not the

:14:56. > :15:00.perfect landing, but then he goes to work. This is her Alexandre Bilodeau

:15:01. > :15:06.with that is best. Hasn't been totally without fault so far for

:15:07. > :15:11.Gagnon, and he approaches the second kicker and throws himself higher.

:15:12. > :15:18.Beautiful landing, nothing wrong with the two aerial manoeuvres. Were

:15:19. > :15:24.the turns sharp enough? He is slightly beyond pace time. Not sure

:15:25. > :15:28.it is good enough to dislodge Alexandre Bilodeau from second

:15:29. > :15:32.place. I got feeling suggests that was good enough, potentially, for a

:15:33. > :15:39.third blaze, bronze medal provisionally with just one man to

:15:40. > :15:44.come. -- for third place. This is how it started, floating around with

:15:45. > :15:51.the full twisting, back somersault. The landing was OK. One or two

:15:52. > :16:00.shovels from side to side, but I think that is good enough for bronze

:16:01. > :16:05.with just Kingsbury to come. If it is bronze medal position, then there

:16:06. > :16:08.will be a massive roar because that means that Alexandr Smyshlyaev,

:16:09. > :16:20.well, let us not second guess the judges! It felt like a third-place

:16:21. > :16:24.performance from Gagnon. If it is, then Alexandr Smyshlyaev was

:16:25. > :16:33.guaranteed a medal. It is third-place for Gagnon. Bronze medal

:16:34. > :16:38.position with one to come, and that is reason to celebrate for Russia,

:16:39. > :16:46.because they are guaranteed a medal, and Alexandr Smyshlyaev can

:16:47. > :16:50.finish no worse than third. Alexandre Bilodeau will get at least

:16:51. > :16:59.the silver, but he won the gold, he wants to be the first man to win

:17:00. > :17:05.back-to-back Olympic bumps titles. The last man on the Hill, world

:17:06. > :17:14.champion in 2013, hoping to become Olympic champion in 2014. On his

:17:15. > :17:21.way, a good start, two lateral rotation, and a great landing, and

:17:22. > :17:28.he is opening up the speed to full throttle. A couple of sideways

:17:29. > :17:37.twitches. A wobble here and there, not perfect. Solid landing and a

:17:38. > :17:47.straight line to finish. He is inside the pace time. Where will

:17:48. > :17:52.that put him? Well it be Alexandre Bilodeau's gold again? They're not

:17:53. > :17:56.the best of friends, but they have a huge amount of respect for each

:17:57. > :18:03.other. Alexandre Bilodeau at the moment is in gold. Alexandr

:18:04. > :18:08.Smyshlyaev hold silver, Gagnon in bronze position. How well Mikael

:18:09. > :18:15.Kingsbury go? The last ban on the mountain. Not perfect, Mr couple of

:18:16. > :18:25.poll plants. Good enough for a medal? It felt possibly like a

:18:26. > :18:29.bronze winning run, maybe he will finish in fourth place. Who knows.

:18:30. > :18:34.The second area was magnificent and the landing was as cool as you like.

:18:35. > :18:42.When Alexandre Bilodeau win the gold? I think that is certain. I do

:18:43. > :18:46.not thinking break and beat him. Kingsbury has got the silver medal!

:18:47. > :18:52.He will settle for that, and Alexandre Bilodeau makes a bit of

:18:53. > :18:57.history, becoming the first skier ever to win back-to-back Olympic

:18:58. > :19:03.moguls titles. No one has done that before. Alexandre Bilodeau has just

:19:04. > :19:10.done that for Canada, and it is one, two, as Kingsbury takes the silver.

:19:11. > :19:13.The gold and a silver for Canada with Alexandre Bilodeau and

:19:14. > :19:18.Kingsbury in the men's and much to celebrate for the host nation, as

:19:19. > :19:32.Alexandr Smyshlyaev takes the bronze medal. Gagnon finishing in the worst

:19:33. > :19:38.possible place, down in four. The Canadians taking four of the six

:19:39. > :19:45.available Olympic moguls paddles. And a little bit of history along

:19:46. > :19:49.the way. The double world Alan Biggs champion is Alexandre Bilodeau from

:19:50. > :19:55.Canada. What a night of skiing here. -- the double world Olympic

:19:56. > :20:06.champion. And Canada celebrates. Alex

:20:07. > :20:14.Bilodeau, what a fantastic performance. How to defend your

:20:15. > :20:19.title! What an awesome run from Alex Bilodeau, he started off quite

:20:20. > :20:25.slowly this evening, his first run wasn't great, but he picked it up.

:20:26. > :20:28.He was so clean all the way down. His feet were absolutely glued

:20:29. > :20:36.together and a perfect balance all the way down. Compared to Mikael

:20:37. > :20:42.Kingsbury who just lost his right ski and that rights legs flew away,

:20:43. > :20:49.Alex Bilodeau was perfect, all the way from top to bottom. He was great

:20:50. > :20:53.in the air. And he's now going to retire as Olympic champion. This is

:20:54. > :20:58.it for Alex Bilodeau, he came here, said this would be his last, big

:20:59. > :21:04.major moguls event, he has other things that he wants achieve, but

:21:05. > :21:11.that was impressive, and he got better and better, how big a star is

:21:12. > :21:19.he in Canada? Is he the first man ever to win a gold medal on Canadian

:21:20. > :21:25.soil? The Canadians had such a fantastic Olympics in Vancouver, but

:21:26. > :21:29.you will always remember your first medal. The fact that Alex Bilodeau,

:21:30. > :21:32.they waited a few days, it wasn't running necessarily that smoothly

:21:33. > :21:38.for the Canadian team in Vancouver, and when he did win it, there was a

:21:39. > :21:45.huge, huge cheer across Canada, so a huge amount of fans because of that,

:21:46. > :21:47.and I think the whole of Canada will again, they will be cheering for

:21:48. > :21:58.Alex Bilodeau. Thank you, Graham, thank you for all

:21:59. > :22:02.of the action. Now, we will stay in the mountains for the first event of

:22:03. > :22:07.the women's alpine programme, it was the super combined, Chemmy Alcott

:22:08. > :22:10.was in part of it, at any rate, for Great Britain as she builds up to

:22:11. > :22:18.the downhill challenge, and Matthew Pinsent was there.

:22:19. > :22:20.After the men's downhill today sees the first of the women's Alpine

:22:21. > :22:24.events. It is the super combined. They will

:22:25. > :22:28.do one run down their scores over here, and that is put together with

:22:29. > :22:36.their time in the afternoon from the slalom course. It is two runs,

:22:37. > :22:43.combined! Got it? ! Super! So, Graham, what does it take to be good

:22:44. > :22:47.at super combined? It takes a good slalom background, because you start

:22:48. > :22:57.skiing with the first discipline that you ski, slalom, so you will

:22:58. > :23:01.have a good general skier, but they will be a good slalom skier as a

:23:02. > :23:10.child. Emma, you have been out on this course, is it as brutal as we

:23:11. > :23:15.have seen so far in Sochi? It is quite difficult, you have to commit,

:23:16. > :23:21.it can be won are lost out there. Chemmy Alcott will use this as part

:23:22. > :23:27.of a training run, she will not race the slalom. She's using this to get

:23:28. > :23:31.ready for the main downhill event, the women's downhill on Wednesday.

:23:32. > :23:39.Chemmy Alcott had an early draw and made the most of what was

:23:40. > :23:50.essentially an extra training run. Go, Team GB! Well done, Jenny! Tina

:23:51. > :23:52.Marder opened her Sochi campaign with a solid run. She went up to

:23:53. > :24:11.third. Defending Olympic champion, she is

:24:12. > :24:16.well in contention. 1.04 is not far at all. She is well in the mix. The

:24:17. > :24:22.show stopper was the Vancouver as oval medallist, and Julia Mancuso.

:24:23. > :24:27.-- was the Vancouver silver medallist. She has proved that she

:24:28. > :24:33.has the speed, but will she have the technique?

:24:34. > :24:39.So, Julia Mancuso takes the lead at the end of the downhill section, all

:24:40. > :24:47.nicely set up for the slalom. Just in the interim, have a look at the

:24:48. > :24:52.gauntlet that they have to run. Arnold, and on it goes with the TV,

:24:53. > :24:56.and just when you think the cameras have come to an end, the written

:24:57. > :25:01.journalists are down at the very end, it is quite an imposing

:25:02. > :25:12.goblet. Now, timed for the gauntlet, over to Emma and maths. -- time for

:25:13. > :25:22.the commentary, over to Emma and to matter.

:25:23. > :25:36.Plenty of experience. She settles into the rhythm early on. She has

:25:37. > :25:41.added to the time. This is when the strong slalom skiing comes through.

:25:42. > :25:48.So smooth. A couple of little errors. Her Hamzah Khan, she is

:25:49. > :26:00.quick and early. -- her arms are calm. Onto the steep section and

:26:01. > :26:15.letting it flow. Accelerating and skiing for the gold-medal position.

:26:16. > :26:25.More than one seconds. Ready to race with the second time, a decent

:26:26. > :26:34.performance. Very, very tall race. You can really see the legs moving

:26:35. > :26:41.from side to side. She has lost two hundredths of a second. She is doing

:26:42. > :26:52.a good job here and really taking the speed along this latter section.

:26:53. > :27:01.Started with a lead of a quarter of a second over Nicole Hosp. Still

:27:02. > :27:03.some tough gates to come. A little skewed sideways. She has done enough

:27:04. > :27:17.to lead. Is this course is going to suit her?

:27:18. > :27:26.She looks cautious. She looks stiff. She will finish in bronze medal

:27:27. > :27:36.position with two to come. The first of them is ready to come. It's Lara

:27:37. > :27:43.Gut. It is a very different view from what she is used to. She is

:27:44. > :27:55.doing a good job here. Great angles. Macau lotion years. And it has gone.

:27:56. > :28:08.It will be at the least a silver for Hoefl. Look at the lead. A big chunk

:28:09. > :28:13.of time in her favour at that downhill. It's a good, positive,

:28:14. > :28:23.attacking start for Julia Mancuso. She recovers. This is going to slip

:28:24. > :28:28.away quickly if she's not careful. She is a half a second... She will

:28:29. > :28:33.have to rip it up on the flat and into that bottom section. This is

:28:34. > :28:41.better now. It's clean and smooth. Half a second up. Let's have a look.

:28:42. > :28:47.And manic ouzo is behind by eight hundredths of a second. I'm not sure

:28:48. > :28:53.she can overhaul the lead of Maria Hoefl. I'm not sure this is going to

:28:54. > :29:07.be gold unless she produces a fabulous finish. It's bronze for

:29:08. > :29:18.Mancuso. And Maria retains her title. What a podium. Fantastic.

:29:19. > :29:29.So, we have seen two titles successfully defended back-to-back.

:29:30. > :29:33.Let's go out to Graham Bell to get a reflection on that performance

:29:34. > :29:38.because the slalom skiing is what did it. Julia Mancuso led it after

:29:39. > :29:45.the downhill but Hoefl made it count on the technical side. Julia Mancuso

:29:46. > :29:52.new, going into this race, that she probably wasn't on goods slalom form

:29:53. > :30:03.to win the com petition but she was absolutely delighted with a bronze.

:30:04. > :30:10.-- slalom competition. It was Hoefl's slalom skiing that did it.

:30:11. > :30:15.There wasn't that much difference between her and Nicky hospital and

:30:16. > :30:20.into slalom. Graham, what was your reaction to Chemmy Alcott's downhill

:30:21. > :30:28.ski? What should we expect of her in the real downhill? In the main

:30:29. > :30:31.downhill, the training run that she had today because that is

:30:32. > :30:36.effectively what it was, she wasn't great on the top section. She could

:30:37. > :30:41.clean that up with it. The mid part of this course she did well. She got

:30:42. > :30:47.a good split time. If she can lay it down like that, a top 15 result,

:30:48. > :30:52.which is a respectable result in the Olympic games, is a possibility.

:30:53. > :30:57.That will be on Wednesday. Tomorrow, we've got freestyle skiing, slope

:30:58. > :31:12.style. Katie Summerhayes is going enough. Look at this, Graham, a

:31:13. > :31:16.point of view film. She is very good at the rails. She is one of the best

:31:17. > :31:20.rail riders in the world. When she was raped -- Riding rails in

:31:21. > :31:27.practice, some of the guys at the top with giving her a round of

:31:28. > :31:33.applause. Then you've got the three big kickers, the three big boot

:31:34. > :31:39.jumps. These jumps are absolutely huge. We are riding the smaller

:31:40. > :31:46.section and that is probably where Katie Summerhayes is going to go. We

:31:47. > :31:52.will probably see the girls spinning more than the snowboarders did on

:31:53. > :31:56.those kickers. What news of James Woods? E is our other slope style

:31:57. > :32:03.skier. We understand he has been injured in training. What is the

:32:04. > :32:08.latest? He has had a crash in training. We've not heard any

:32:09. > :32:12.information as to how bad it is but he's got a couple of days to get

:32:13. > :32:21.himself fit and recovered for the competition on Thursday. Fingers

:32:22. > :32:28.crossed he will be OK and fit to compete on Thursday. Thank you so

:32:29. > :32:33.much for now and we look forward to all of that action to come. Let's

:32:34. > :32:37.take you to the timings for tomorrow. Katie Summerhayes starts

:32:38. > :32:41.her campaign in qualifying at 7am and the final, which we hope she

:32:42. > :32:51.will be in, will be at nine o'clock, here on BBC Two.

:32:52. > :33:01.A deep lunch. Such quick footwear. Back and forth. Back and forth.

:33:02. > :33:05.She's done it. Its Olympic gold for Great Britain. That is a wonderful

:33:06. > :33:16.performance. You can join in that conversation.

:33:17. > :33:20.Some funny photos being taken off people trying curling around the

:33:21. > :33:24.house. Do that, if you so wish. I went along to watch the real thing

:33:25. > :33:41.this morning. Great Britain's men and women were both in action.

:33:42. > :33:47.Curling was invented in Scotland and is big in Canada and Scotland --

:33:48. > :33:51.Sweden. It's relatively new to Russia. One thing I was not

:33:52. > :33:58.expecting to see coming into the Ice cube, were Russian bagpipers. Hello.

:33:59. > :34:04.That was fantastic. Thank you. Are you out of breath now? It's OK. I

:34:05. > :34:05.you going to come in and watch the curling? We are going to play at the

:34:06. > :34:17.curling. Curling is a game of concentration,

:34:18. > :34:22.of consistency and confidence. Although this is the round robin

:34:23. > :34:27.stage, it's important to get wins in Italy. Great Britain's men did that

:34:28. > :34:31.this warning against Russia. This afternoon, it's the turn of the

:34:32. > :34:35.women to open their campaign. Today, they face Sweden, who could end up

:34:36. > :34:40.being their strongest competitors for the gold metal. These are the

:34:41. > :34:44.commentary positions for the curling. This will be the home for

:34:45. > :34:50.the next ten days of Jackie Lockhart and Steve Cram. Nice knitwear. I

:34:51. > :34:55.like the cardigan. How important is a win today? It's not that

:34:56. > :35:00.important. It is Game one and if you are going to lose a game, it's good

:35:01. > :35:03.to learn it -- lose it early doors. For the gills, this will be

:35:04. > :35:08.important for them, mentally. They've come here for -- with a lot

:35:09. > :35:12.of weight on their shoulders. They want to perform well. It's the not

:35:13. > :35:17.the fact they may lose the game but how they will cope with it if they

:35:18. > :35:23.do. Overall, we expect curling to be quite a quiet sport but actually,

:35:24. > :35:27.it's been very noisy, hasn't it? It's a small venue, perfectly

:35:28. > :35:31.formed, but there was a good atmosphere this way. The Russian

:35:32. > :35:36.crowd were enthusiastic, if not knowledgeable.

:35:37. > :36:01.It was a slow start for Eve Muirhead and hitting. The stakes started to

:36:02. > :36:06.creep in. Almost. That's unfortunate. Things got worse for

:36:07. > :36:14.the Brits at the third end. If she gets this badly wrong, they could

:36:15. > :36:18.find themselves in a really tricky situation. She doesn't want to give

:36:19. > :36:29.away too much here. She has to get this right. I think that is going to

:36:30. > :36:33.be two against her. Not the start Eve Muirhead's team wanted. They've

:36:34. > :36:40.lost three shots now in the first three ends. The early skirmishes are

:36:41. > :36:45.going Sweden's way. This is a game of ten ends and for Eve Muirhead and

:36:46. > :36:51.her team, they've got to regain their confidence and hang on in

:36:52. > :36:55.there. The world champions were down but not out. They showed real

:36:56. > :37:04.strength of Canada. The fightback was on.

:37:05. > :37:17.How will these stones end up? It looks pretty tight, this. Not quite

:37:18. > :37:26.enough. That was a good effort. That was one to Great Britain. Oh, my

:37:27. > :37:29.word. That was so close. All square again but a moment of brilliance by

:37:30. > :37:36.the Swedish skipper made all the difference. That's a better shot.

:37:37. > :37:42.That finished well for them. Nobody touched that stone at all. Well

:37:43. > :37:47.played. Even forcing just one he would not be a bad position to be

:37:48. > :37:58.in. Trying to hold the line for this one. That is unfortunate there. It

:37:59. > :38:05.hit its traded on the nose -- it hit it straight on the nose. She looks

:38:06. > :38:16.reasonably comfortable with it. Looking to draw, to take to hear. --

:38:17. > :38:24.two here. That was good from Sweden. Britain are up against it. There was

:38:25. > :38:29.a period in the middle, where things went Britain's way. They started to

:38:30. > :38:38.play their shots a little. The last two or three ends, and there is the

:38:39. > :38:43.handshake. So, Sweden -- Sweden and a victorious. It's never ever looked

:38:44. > :38:48.like going Britain's way. It was not a great start. They clawed their way

:38:49. > :38:51.back into the game for a period. Not one of their best games but not one

:38:52. > :38:55.of their worst games either. I knew it was going to be tough and we

:38:56. > :38:59.didn't manage to come out on top. By the end, we got to grips with the

:39:00. > :39:07.ice. We've played a lot of good shots. We had a slow start but she

:39:08. > :39:11.played a great shot in the seventh end. These things happen. It is a

:39:12. > :39:15.marathon, not a sprint. There are lots of games to go. It's not the be

:39:16. > :39:22.all and end all. We've a long way to go.

:39:23. > :39:33.Later, David Murdoch led Team GB to battle against Sweden. In the first

:39:34. > :39:37.end, Murdoch would be the one to draw first blood. He got GB the

:39:38. > :39:40.first point of the match. That meant conceding the hammer to Sweden, who

:39:41. > :39:47.would take advantage and move on to a healthy 4-2 lead by the interval.

:39:48. > :39:51.Team GB had to regroup and rethink their tactics. Yet, the turning

:39:52. > :39:58.point of the game came in and eight. When Murdoch's attempt to level it

:39:59. > :40:02.came to no avail, the onslaught of the delivery transformed what would

:40:03. > :40:09.have been a score of 4-4 into a trouncing. Sweden lead 8-3 and an

:40:10. > :40:15.almost impossible deficit to overcome. By and nine, Murdoch had

:40:16. > :40:21.to concede defeat and the game. Team GB have a record of one win and one

:40:22. > :40:25.loss, after one day of curling. Only one day gone. Nine more to come.

:40:26. > :40:26.There are ten days of curling in total so I did think we should get

:40:27. > :40:37.to downhearted. Russia are very enthusiastically

:40:38. > :40:50.supporting the curling, which by the way, it takes place in the Tube. --

:40:51. > :41:01.Cube. Let's have a look at the other headlines, on day three.

:41:02. > :41:11.Lizzy Yarnold lived up to her gold medal favourites tag by registering

:41:12. > :41:12.the fastest time on the first day of official skeleton training. The

:41:13. > :41:18.competition proper starts on Thursday. This world champion is a

:41:19. > :41:24.big Sochi favourite and she has a commanding lead at the halfway point

:41:25. > :41:33.of the women's luge. The USA breast of Switzerland 9-0 to secure a top

:41:34. > :41:38.two spot in group a and R into the finals -- semifinals of the ice

:41:39. > :41:43.hockey. Canada's bid for a fourth successive medal is still on track.

:41:44. > :41:49.A clean sweep for the Dutch, who else, in the speed skating. Mulder

:41:50. > :41:51.leads the way in the men's 500 metres to stop his twin brother,

:41:52. > :42:06.Ronald, took the bronze. So, wonderful day for the Dutch and

:42:07. > :42:10.all of their fans the decked in Orange, but when it comes to short

:42:11. > :42:16.track speed skating, Britain are setting the pace and trying to keep

:42:17. > :42:20.up today was Jason Mohammad. This is the Iceberg Skating Palace,

:42:21. > :42:24.and yesterday it was about the greys, the poise and the elegance of

:42:25. > :42:32.the figure skating. Today it is about speed and aggression, this is

:42:33. > :42:36.the short gate. Elise Christie gets a campaign

:42:37. > :42:41.underway shortly in the women's 500 metres heats, but the day features

:42:42. > :42:43.another Brit, Jack Whelbourne, he goes in the men's 1500 metres. Take

:42:44. > :42:59.it away, Hugh Porter. You may be able to see a Elise

:43:00. > :43:07.Christie, she is Jack Whelbourne's girlfriend. Jack Whelbourne, skating

:43:08. > :43:15.out of his skin at the moment. He crosses the line first. Time for the

:43:16. > :43:20.women's 500 metres, huge pressure on Team GB's Elise Christie. The first

:43:21. > :43:26.two qualifiers go through to the final.

:43:27. > :43:33.Elise Christie needs to get involved in the charge for the line to

:43:34. > :43:38.qualify for the next round. She is up to third. It is the top two that

:43:39. > :43:43.go through. Into the last two and a half laps and it is good skating by

:43:44. > :43:49.the Russian. She has gone straight through to the front. Two to go.

:43:50. > :43:58.Elise Christie cannot get through at the moment. On the front, it is

:43:59. > :44:02.still the 16-year-old Russian. Here comes a Elise Christie, she has

:44:03. > :44:08.ignited the burners. She takes it on the line.

:44:09. > :44:12.She was joined in the quarterfinals by Charlotte Gilmartin, the

:44:13. > :44:16.23-year-old making her Olympic debut taking second place in heat three.

:44:17. > :44:24.Superb gating by Charlotte Gilmartin. A great evening for a

:44:25. > :44:33.Team GB, both through to the quarterfinals, fresh off the eyes,

:44:34. > :44:42.here is a lease I thought you would be worried. I was just working on my

:44:43. > :44:47.moves and the other distances. I was using it as a warm up in the

:44:48. > :44:53.competition. Luckily, it paid off and I got round. It is the hardest

:44:54. > :45:03.way to do it, but is exciting. Now, you are cheering on shark, are you

:45:04. > :45:10.going to watch it with us? Yes. So confident, I is cool. Come on, Jack,

:45:11. > :45:16.you can do it! Jack Whelbourne is second! History is made! The first

:45:17. > :45:23.time we have had a finalist for the 1500. An unlikely British medal was

:45:24. > :45:26.on the cards, but he was up against stiff opposition, including Charles

:45:27. > :45:33.Hamelin and Victor An, the Olympic champion in 2006 four South Korea

:45:34. > :45:38.but now competing for irrational. Jack needs to make sure he doesn't

:45:39. > :45:51.get stuck at the back. Coming down the inside. A big move by China. JR

:45:52. > :45:58.Celski in second spot. Up to the line with six more laps to go. JR

:45:59. > :46:03.Celski is the head of the raise. It changes again. Charles Hamelin is

:46:04. > :46:06.coming through, the Canadian. Charles Hamelin looking very

:46:07. > :46:14.comfortable. Pushed back into third place. Victor An has made no moves

:46:15. > :46:19.whatsoever. He will make a move now. Jack Whelbourne has gone down. Jack

:46:20. > :46:27.Whelbourne of Great Britain has gone down. That was because of the move

:46:28. > :46:40.by Victor An on the front. In second position, China. Charles Hamelin

:46:41. > :46:43.turning the screw at the front. Charles Hamelin in front, really

:46:44. > :46:49.igniting the burners. Charles Hamelin takes it.

:46:50. > :46:56.I think that is the best I have raced. Some of those guys that we

:46:57. > :47:01.had to go through to get to the final by some of the guys that could

:47:02. > :47:06.be on the podium now, and maybe I could have been on the podium if I

:47:07. > :47:11.had gone my way a little bit, but I came out your trying to get two and

:47:12. > :47:20.a final and I am pleased to have done that. We can probably find

:47:21. > :47:23.out, Ollie Williams, he has been across the social media content,

:47:24. > :47:33.firstly, short track speed skating, what news? Well, Elise Christie and

:47:34. > :47:38.his girlfriend and team-mate, helping him out, most people would

:47:39. > :47:42.not want to dwell on that, but he got home and he tweeted a photograph

:47:43. > :47:48.of you can see his ankle and the black marker desk that you try to

:47:49. > :47:52.avoid, you can see that he had to try and avoid it and falls over on

:47:53. > :47:56.it. He is happily looking back at that incident and he wants to be

:47:57. > :48:01.back and he will try to skate through the pain. It is the way of

:48:02. > :48:08.modern sport! If something happens, you have got to treat it! Yes, the

:48:09. > :48:13.night before, he was tweeting to Elise Christie, saying, I want to

:48:14. > :48:18.dream of winning. He tweeted about overly winning, until fully it will

:48:19. > :48:23.come to pass. We should point out, they do not share a room in the

:48:24. > :48:29.Olympic village, so they have to communicate somehow. Curling has big

:48:30. > :48:34.Love in the UK, it started today. Yes, you had to get up pretty early

:48:35. > :48:41.in the UK to love curling, but happily, people got up and had been

:48:42. > :48:46.tweeting about it. There, I know that you like a good curling blog,

:48:47. > :48:52.the view from this curling blog, make sure that you chew into them.

:48:53. > :48:56.But it wasn't just the fans on Twitter, David Murdoch, the Scottish

:48:57. > :49:01.and British skip on the team, he came off this morning having just

:49:02. > :49:05.beaten the Russians and immediately announced to the world that he loves

:49:06. > :49:15.curling at the same time, which is marvellous news. I would be

:49:16. > :49:18.disappointed if he didn't do that! That could possibly change! This is

:49:19. > :49:24.a person we have not really seen on screen yet, but if you are in the

:49:25. > :49:26.USA, you will be pretty sick of Johnny Quinn, the bobsled, because

:49:27. > :49:33.he has been on every television outlet after having the worst

:49:34. > :49:38.weekend in the history of social media. Firstly, he got stuck in his

:49:39. > :49:42.bathroom and broke out of eight, because he could not make it out! He

:49:43. > :49:50.smashed through it with his bush training! 50,000 re-tweets and

:49:51. > :49:54.counting. It caught the attention of the US networks, so he has been

:49:55. > :49:59.demonstrating it to everyone. Finally, I foolishly said on air at

:50:00. > :50:10.a few hours ago, when I showed of our mobile studio, the trolley, it

:50:11. > :50:18.is now trending. Yes, it might even have its own unofficial Twitter

:50:19. > :50:24.account! There it is. This cost is ten rubles to hire! It is a

:50:25. > :50:29.beautiful mover. Thank you very much, you will keep us up to date

:50:30. > :50:44.with everything on Twitter. Let's turn our attention to the biathlon

:50:45. > :50:49.and the Harrow Bjoerndalen got on? -- and see how Bjoerndalen got on?

:50:50. > :50:57.Can he beat yesterday? Away he goes, a one second advantage

:50:58. > :51:17.over Landertinger. Can you believe it, the race leader

:51:18. > :51:25.goes down. Look at much time he will lose. France Darren Lehmann. There

:51:26. > :51:40.is the first myth. Landertinger will have registered that. A miss from

:51:41. > :51:54.Bjoerndalen, it may not be his night tonight. This is the hardest shot of

:51:55. > :52:00.all four Fourcard, and the traditional celebration. A bit

:52:01. > :52:06.cheeky. Fourcard, on his way to his first gold. This then is a

:52:07. > :52:12.superhero, and tonight for the first time, he becomes the Olympic

:52:13. > :52:20.champion. He missed one target, but he did nothing else wrong.

:52:21. > :52:26.Bjoerndalen has plenty more events to come, and he could set an

:52:27. > :52:30.all-time record for Winter Olympics models won. The news from the

:52:31. > :52:35.British Olympic camp is that James Woods, the skier, he injured his hip

:52:36. > :52:41.in training, but he should be okayed to resume training soon, not looking

:52:42. > :52:44.too serious for him, so fingers crossed. Let's look at the medals

:52:45. > :53:00.table at the end of day three, and out in front, it is Canada.

:53:01. > :53:08.We are delighted to welcome the new feature, our team GB medal table.

:53:09. > :53:12.And there she is, on her own for the moment, Jenny Jones. We hope the

:53:13. > :53:17.podium will fill up, possibly Katie Summerhayes could be honoured.

:53:18. > :53:24.Following a seer, there is a long form highlights, so if you want to

:53:25. > :53:31.see that, press the red button only come off the air. -- when we come

:53:32. > :53:37.off the air. Tomorrow, we are back at 7am with the women Slopestyle

:53:38. > :53:39.qualification, join Hazel for that. Now it is time for Sochi's Winter

:53:40. > :53:44.wonders. The laws of gravity state what goes

:53:45. > :54:02.up must come down. Switzerland showed no sign of nerves

:54:03. > :54:13.before taking on the mighty USA. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it is

:54:14. > :54:25.Per Spett. The most expensive Olympics ever just got a little bit

:54:26. > :54:26.more expensive. Ashes? ! What Ashes? ! Here is an Australian

:54:27. > :54:40.falling over. And stay four here in Russia is just

:54:41. > :54:52.seconds away because it is coming up to midnight. -- day four. It is the

:54:53. > :54:55.debut of women's ski jumping. Andrew Musgrave goes in the cross country

:54:56. > :55:00.skiing, there is more curling and we hope, maybe, a medal from Katie

:55:01. > :55:07.Summerhayes, we will see you tomorrow.

:55:08. > :55:17.This is all about style. One big family. With a creative mentality.

:55:18. > :55:24.On a blank canvas, a big playground. Experimenting on jobs and on rails,

:55:25. > :55:29.bouncing off to find your own style. It is about expressing yourself. But

:55:30. > :55:34.don't get me wrong, it is competitive also. You have to dare

:55:35. > :55:41.to go big. You put it all on the line. Put your best foot forward,

:55:42. > :55:53.put your best rundown. Stretch yourself to your limits. Make your

:55:54. > :56:00.mark and they get your own. -- make it your own. This is only for the

:56:01. > :56:04.most creative athletes on the snow. This is Slopestyle.
