:00:30. > :00:47.A very good start for Great Britain. Amy Williams is the queen

:00:48. > :01:05.of speed. He is over. Oh, drama. She has done it. That is it. The Winter

:01:06. > :01:11.Olympics, they four. Welcome back to the coastline of the

:01:12. > :01:17.Black Sea. Here is an amazing fact I learnt today. Sochi is the longest

:01:18. > :01:22.city in Europe, 92 miles long, and it stretches all the way along the

:01:23. > :01:27.coast. We are here with my trusty trolley which means we can go all

:01:28. > :01:32.the way around the Olympic Park and today we are in our restaurant and

:01:33. > :01:38.we have a family gathering with Katie Summerhayes. We will be

:01:39. > :01:40.talking to them all after we see her in action. Here is what is coming

:01:41. > :02:00.up. Slopestyle skiing today, and

:02:01. > :02:09.teenager Katie Summerhayes was flying the British flag. All eyes

:02:10. > :02:17.were on Shaun White as he was aiming for a third successive halfpipe gold

:02:18. > :02:21.medal. And it was a family affair with Andrew Musgrave and his sister

:02:22. > :02:32.Posy among the British skiing in the cross-country sprint. We are very

:02:33. > :02:38.excited because we have been given our very own British pin. In great

:02:39. > :02:42.style we have stuck it to the back of a plastic cup. We are going to be

:02:43. > :02:48.showing you the women's luge, the curling and the men and women in

:02:49. > :02:52.action. For the women there was a bit of Olympic history, but we are

:02:53. > :02:57.going to start with slopestyle skiing and the younger of the

:02:58. > :03:07.British team, Katie Summerhayes, who qualified through the final. There

:03:08. > :03:14.is no doubt slopestyle has been the big, new hit of these Olympic Games.

:03:15. > :03:18.We have seen it on snowboard and now it is time to see it on skis and

:03:19. > :03:30.Great Britain has a medal contender, Katie Summerhayes. Katie Summerhayes

:03:31. > :03:40.dropping in. A switch 900. She put it down. Katie Summerhayes looking

:03:41. > :03:45.good in third position. This is the broadcast standard and it is busy up

:03:46. > :03:52.here. Tim is going to be part of our commentary team. What happened in

:03:53. > :03:55.qualification? Yet again slopestyle has thrown a curved ball at the

:03:56. > :04:07.Olympics and the favourite has gone out. Katie put in two solid runs in

:04:08. > :04:13.qualification. What do you want from her in the final? I would like to

:04:14. > :04:18.see her up her game. But my level head is saying put down a nice,

:04:19. > :04:28.solid run and in the final she can go a bit crazy. Are you all right?

:04:29. > :04:34.How do you feel about that? I am up and down, but it was good to see two

:04:35. > :04:44.solid runs. We gave her a big hug and she is quite happy. Are you city

:04:45. > :04:51.in disguise? You are all covered up. What are you thinking about with

:04:52. > :04:59.Katie? She is amazing and I cannot wait to see Katie Summerhayes smash

:05:00. > :05:10.it. She is awesome. And Anna Segal from Australia. She won the

:05:11. > :05:20.slopestyle championships in 2011. The big 720. And then a nice cork to

:05:21. > :05:36.seven. She is happy with that. And so is he and so is he. Next is Devin

:05:37. > :05:44.Logan from the United States. Always a good show in the X Games. Another

:05:45. > :05:49.confident American. Switch 540 with the safety grab. Deep into the

:05:50. > :06:04.transition and carrying a lot of speed. A big 720 and hold onto it.

:06:05. > :06:10.That is a good run. In first place. Katie Summerhayes, round one. With

:06:11. > :06:18.her coach Pat Sharples from Sheffield. Bring it home for Great

:06:19. > :06:25.Britain and Yorkshire. Come on, Katie Summerhayes, for Team GB. She

:06:26. > :06:38.does it again, lovely stuff. She needs to be nice and clean.

:06:39. > :06:44.Beautiful. Capable of that landing. A bit of a speed check because she

:06:45. > :07:03.is riding switch. Oh, she dropped it. Right, from the east coast, from

:07:04. > :07:12.Quebec, Kim Lamarre. Oh, no. What did she do? Did she go big? All of

:07:13. > :07:19.the favourites from the qualifying, including Katie Summerhayes, have

:07:20. > :07:26.crashed out. Flat down into the Canon box. A switch into that big

:07:27. > :07:39.jump. There is a helicopter overhead. Switch 720, very nice.

:07:40. > :07:48.Switch nine, beautiful stuff. In the tuck and into a big 540. You have

:07:49. > :07:56.got to say that is well deserved. A brilliant run. She is in gold medal

:07:57. > :08:04.position. She has taken a commanding lead. After the first run a lot of

:08:05. > :08:09.them are struggling, why is it so difficult? Overnight the snow has

:08:10. > :08:16.not frozen, which means it is slow, so they are having to keep control

:08:17. > :08:23.of their skis between the jumps. For those who have crashed, it is now

:08:24. > :08:29.one run. It is all or nothing. And that is the name of the game. It is

:08:30. > :08:37.like holding it together. Katie will be fine, she can do this, she has

:08:38. > :08:44.done it before. Katie Summerhayes takes a deep breath. She needs the

:08:45. > :08:50.run of her life. Come on, Katie! For a 50 out of the rail. We can see

:08:51. > :09:13.that switch. It is absolutely textbook. She needs that switch.

:09:14. > :09:32.Yes! Come on, Katie Summerhayes. It is all on this last kicker. Nice and

:09:33. > :09:41.simple. We look at execution. Perhaps a little bit messy. There is

:09:42. > :09:58.a hands down. She needs 77. Oh, my goodness. She has landed a run in

:09:59. > :10:03.the final. Oh, no, it is not enough. That is tough to deal with. The

:10:04. > :10:12.elation of landing the run, but not a high enough scorer. With the hand

:10:13. > :10:18.she just got the points. But it is the Olympic final. Let's not get too

:10:19. > :10:25.distracted because this girl could upset the apple cart. She could get

:10:26. > :10:35.on the podium. She is in the same position that Katie was in. 77 is

:10:36. > :10:48.the scorer. There is room on the podium for Kim Lamarre of Canada.

:10:49. > :10:57.That is the switch. She has knocked the Australian of the podium.

:10:58. > :11:02.Congratulations to Dara Howell. I did well in qualification. I am

:11:03. > :11:09.gutted, but later tonight I will be happy. It is later tonight and what

:11:10. > :11:16.are you thinking now? After watching that back I am a bit gutted still,

:11:17. > :11:21.but I am really happy with how I skied and I am happy to be here

:11:22. > :11:35.after all the hard work and hard times with my injuries, so I am

:11:36. > :11:41.happy. You did an ACL? Yes, I did it in 2013 and so I am really happy.

:11:42. > :11:48.But you got your own hopes up and all of ours by qualifying so well.

:11:49. > :11:53.Yes, that is a bit disappointing. If I had qualified lower and I had come

:11:54. > :11:57.lower, I would have had fun. But because I qualified high, I had

:11:58. > :12:04.expectation on myself and I did not do very well. You are the youngest

:12:05. > :12:19.member of the team and you are 18. Pat Sharples is your coach. What do

:12:20. > :12:23.you say to her now? We can just focus on training, learn new

:12:24. > :12:28.tricks. We haven't got the stress of qualifying for the Olympics, we have

:12:29. > :12:31.got four years now to make sure she is absolutely top of her game and

:12:32. > :12:36.let's go for a medal then. You have got quite a big team you

:12:37. > :12:42.are in charge of, including James Woods who we saw in disguise. How is

:12:43. > :12:47.he because his competition is the day after tomorrow?

:12:48. > :12:51.He is competing on Thursday. Training session tomorrow, starting

:12:52. > :12:55.at 11:30am, really excited for that.

:12:56. > :13:00.Let's have a word with Katie's parents. They like to hear the input

:13:01. > :13:06.from family. And her younger sister for stop what has it been like

:13:07. > :13:10.watching your daughter get involved in a sport neither of you had

:13:11. > :13:15.anything to do with, having started on a dry ski slope and are now being

:13:16. > :13:20.at the Olympics? Tremendous. It has been a fantastic journey, from a dry

:13:21. > :13:29.ski slope to hear, skiing Snow with the best in the world. We keep

:13:30. > :13:33.saying if your kid watching at home, this is how to get involved, if your

:13:34. > :13:39.mum is watching, would you say to them?

:13:40. > :13:43.Kids just love it. My kids to screw up loving it. They just wanted to go

:13:44. > :13:48.every week skiing bash my kids grew up.

:13:49. > :13:56.You may yet in South Korea have two daughters that because Molly, tell

:13:57. > :14:04.everybody what level you are. I think I am on the Jeep league team

:14:05. > :14:11.dashed Great Britain team. -- Great Britain team, hopefully aiming at 20

:14:12. > :14:16.18. Standing there at the bottom, you must feel helpless. You know she

:14:17. > :14:21.wants to do her best, get on that podium, knowing you cannot do

:14:22. > :14:26.anything, so nerve wracking. I was so nervous for her, but she did so

:14:27. > :14:30.well. I wonder if watching you learned something as well that will

:14:31. > :14:36.help you going forward. And you must have learnt things through this

:14:37. > :14:39.build-up and actually being an Olympic competitor that will help

:14:40. > :14:43.you. Definitely will help me going

:14:44. > :14:46.forward. Like everybody says, you can use your first games as an

:14:47. > :14:54.experience and I have learned to laugh. It is just another

:14:55. > :14:59.competition. We go out there to do a job, to have fun, that is all that

:15:00. > :15:05.matters. And what do you do for the rest of the games? I am going to try

:15:06. > :15:07.and watch everything. I want to support everybody, watch lots of

:15:08. > :15:12.different sports so I am really excited.

:15:13. > :15:16.Thank you so much for coming down, Katie Summerhayes, her coach, her

:15:17. > :15:20.parents, her little sister, and they have also been watching with me a

:15:21. > :15:52.sport we are going to show you highlights later. This was good.

:15:53. > :16:01.Shaun White is the most successful halfpipe contestant ever. He was

:16:02. > :16:05.trying to win the games for a third time, we will see how he got on

:16:06. > :16:08.later on today. If Katie and Molly are aiming to become sisters

:16:09. > :16:13.competing at the Olympic games, we already have a brother and sister.

:16:14. > :16:14.Andrew and Posy Musgrave and they were in the cross-country skiing,

:16:15. > :16:24.let's find out what happened. This is the cross-country ski

:16:25. > :16:28.stadium and some of the fittest athlete on the planet will push

:16:29. > :16:32.themselves over a very testing course in the men's and women's

:16:33. > :16:35.sprint. And for a community in Scotland and one family in

:16:36. > :16:44.particular it is a very special day. The Musgrave family along with

:16:45. > :16:47.childhood friends hail from Huntly in Aberdeenshire for stop they have

:16:48. > :16:51.been skiing together and they were children but for Andrew and Posey is

:16:52. > :16:55.one man to thank for them into the sport.

:16:56. > :17:05.We all rose encouraged them to do lots of sports. -- always. They got

:17:06. > :17:08.into skiing, it was fun, there was a crowd of them and they liked doing

:17:09. > :17:11.it. They got the opportunity to go to one of the sports high schools in

:17:12. > :17:18.Norway. He thought he would get better training their, than he would

:17:19. > :17:21.have done if he stayed on his own. And then he said he had the

:17:22. > :17:27.opportunity to train with the best skiers in the world. That is how he

:17:28. > :17:31.has improved, training with great skiers all the time.

:17:32. > :17:34.He won that big race in Norway. How proud we you seeing him smash the

:17:35. > :17:40.Norwegians? Really pleased to see, he has worked

:17:41. > :17:44.hard, great to see it all come together on the day. The competition

:17:45. > :17:48.began with a time trial, top 30 going through to the quarterfinals

:17:49. > :17:52.for the was always going to be a tall order for Posy Musgrave who

:17:53. > :17:55.finished 42nd in the women's sprint. Andrew Young and Callum Smith were

:17:56. > :18:01.satisfied with their performances but missed out on qualification.

:18:02. > :18:06.I think it is going OK, maybe lost a bit of time on the corners, slightly

:18:07. > :18:10.up on my ranking. I knew I was going to need a really good race to

:18:11. > :18:14.qualify. A bit disappointed but not too much. I have really enjoyed it.

:18:15. > :18:18.I have got another race on Thursday, another go at being an

:18:19. > :18:22.Olympian. Now it is all about you and your brother on. I am more

:18:23. > :18:28.nervous for his race than my own. I hope he does well.

:18:29. > :18:36.Here he comes, driving and pushing. His grades into the quarterfinals

:18:37. > :18:40.but faces a tough heat with two top Norwegians. Although he did beat one

:18:41. > :18:47.of them in the Norwegian Championships.

:18:48. > :18:53.Away they go. Brilliant skiing from Musgrave, so agile. He needs to calm

:18:54. > :18:58.it down. He is starting to lose a little bit of ground. Musgrave is

:18:59. > :19:05.still losing a bit of ground but not out of it yet. From first, back into

:19:06. > :19:10.sixth place but he has got a huge amount of support. Can he pull off a

:19:11. > :19:21.magicians act? He is still off the pace at the moment. He looks as

:19:22. > :19:25.though he will finish in fourth. The Norwegians getting their revenge

:19:26. > :19:31.over Musgrave, who won the Norwegian Championships, but not today. A sad,

:19:32. > :19:36.sad picture. He will not go through to the semifinals.

:19:37. > :19:45.That wasn't me on a good day, I don't know what happened. I just

:19:46. > :19:50.skied badly. I thought I would ski better in the quarterfinals. I saw

:19:51. > :19:55.in the first hit the guy who took the lead, managed to stay there and

:19:56. > :19:59.hold his ground the whole way. As soon as we got into the long hill I

:20:00. > :20:07.just felt I wasn't having a good day. Sometimes you get bad days. It

:20:08. > :20:16.just sucks that it happened when it was the Olympics. I felt I should be

:20:17. > :20:22.fighting for a place amongst the ten best, I wasn't even close today. In

:20:23. > :20:25.the finals Norway continued their dominance of the cross-country and

:20:26. > :20:35.buyer from events. In the women's race gold went to Fala with Frost

:20:36. > :20:42.Berg getting silver. In the men's event victory went to another

:20:43. > :20:45.Norwegian, the man Musgrave beat into second place in the Norwegian

:20:46. > :20:51.Championships. A crash in the closing stages meant he and Teodor

:20:52. > :20:57.Peterson from Sweden were the only man left standing for stop a meal

:20:58. > :21:03.you on some took bronze. -- Emile Unison.

:21:04. > :21:09.The pressure, the expectation and the occasion was too much for him.

:21:10. > :21:12.He has three more events to concentrate on. Despite the

:21:13. > :21:19.disappointment it is still a day the town of Huntly and the Musgrave

:21:20. > :21:24.family should be really proud of. Andrew Musgrave goes again on Friday

:21:25. > :21:29.in the 15 kilometre classic. We will head off to the final of the women's

:21:30. > :21:31.allusion. The World Cup winner Natalie Geisenberger had a massive

:21:32. > :21:38.one second lead over Tatiana Huefner.

:21:39. > :21:50.Going for final preparations. Well over a second ahead of everybody

:21:51. > :22:18.else. Brilliant start by Alex Gough. She

:22:19. > :22:23.is staying in the middle, that is the most important thing. Rising a

:22:24. > :22:30.little bit high on that left-hander. Coming round now, looking good.

:22:31. > :22:40.Nearly a quarter of a second up. How is it? It is good, perfect. Over a

:22:41. > :22:48.quarter of a second up. She is going for the medals here. She wants to

:22:49. > :22:59.put pressure on Hamlin. She is in the lead. 0.317 is the advantage.

:23:00. > :23:09.That will be difficult to beat. That could be good enough for a medal. We

:23:10. > :23:13.are down to the three medal positions, but which one will it be,

:23:14. > :23:20.will it be Alex Gough or will it be Erin Hamlin?

:23:21. > :23:27.She has got a third of the second advantage, a big gap to have. No

:23:28. > :23:31.mistakes at the start, hopefully. She got down cleanly but she will

:23:32. > :23:37.lose a little time here. Not as powerful as Alex Gough out of the

:23:38. > :23:47.start. She is certainly going well at the moment. She has lost a bit of

:23:48. > :23:56.time. Nothing too major. She is not a big woman. She cannot afford to

:23:57. > :24:01.take any touches, especially in the uphill section. Starting to pull

:24:02. > :24:06.away from the Canadian. She just manages to stay away from a wall as

:24:07. > :24:14.well. That was a difficult point in the course will stop --. She is

:24:15. > :24:22.about to become an Olympic bronze medallist. Fantastic. She can sit

:24:23. > :24:32.pretty now, she has definitely got a medal. She has superb credentials.

:24:33. > :24:38.That is wonderful. What a great moment for Erin Hamlin. The number

:24:39. > :24:42.two German in the silver medal position, the Olympic champion for

:24:43. > :24:49.stop she is ice cool under pressure for stop

:24:50. > :24:59.Tatiana Huefner goes for gold, she will not settle for bronze. She will

:25:00. > :25:07.not settle for silver. Very quick start. She has got good mentor me

:25:08. > :25:17.through first few corners. -- momentum. She is through one of the

:25:18. > :25:26.most difficult parts. She just might get lucky, if Geisenberger falters

:25:27. > :25:33.and give her -- gives her the gold for

:25:34. > :25:46.she will take the lead. She has got the lead. The Germans have a silver

:25:47. > :26:00.medal. There is just one to go. Three runs below 52nd, nobody else

:26:01. > :26:08.has achieved one run below 50 seconds.

:26:09. > :26:26.Away we go. Natalie Geisenberger. It is not fast, but it is fast enough.

:26:27. > :26:36.A little conservative. Still over a second is the margin. She would have

:26:37. > :26:39.to crash now to lose this. As long as she doesn't take any big hits she

:26:40. > :26:48.will be absolutely fine, she has got the gold medal. She can be messy,

:26:49. > :27:00.she has such a big margin. She cruises down there. She comes

:27:01. > :27:13.through their, absolutely superb. She has the gold medal sewn up. That

:27:14. > :27:19.is absolutely fabulous. that has got to be a record. She has put over 1.1

:27:20. > :27:30.seconds between her and the rest of the world put together. Germany are

:27:31. > :27:35.definitely the leaders in luge. They do the singles and doubles and Felix

:27:36. > :27:40.Locke took the men's. Some interesting news from the Sliding

:27:41. > :27:45.Center. The skeleton stars on Thursday and concludes on Friday and

:27:46. > :27:51.Britain Bosman Lizzie Yarnold is getting faster and faster. Shelley

:27:52. > :28:01.Rudman is slowly improving as well. Tomorrow on the ice things get a

:28:02. > :28:08.little cosier. # just the two of us, we can make it if we try, just the

:28:09. > :28:15.two of us. # we can make it if we try, just the

:28:16. > :28:22.two of us. # you and I.

:28:23. > :28:31.# just the two of us, just the two of us.

:28:32. > :28:37.I am sure it will go down a storm over here. Doubles luge is back and

:28:38. > :28:43.starts tomorrow. It will be available on one of our six HD

:28:44. > :28:55.streams. Hopefully we will have the final just after four o'clock.

:28:56. > :29:01.Today, some of the headline makers. She is known as the Empress and Lee

:29:02. > :29:09.Sang-Hwa reigns supreme in the speed skating defending her Olympic 500

:29:10. > :29:16.needles -- metres title. Darya Domracheva became Belarus's first

:29:17. > :29:22.ever Olympic champion with the ten kilometre biathlon pursuit gold. And

:29:23. > :29:31.Russia put themselves into the ice hockey quarterfinals with a 2-1 win

:29:32. > :29:35.over Japan. The hosts play unbeaten Sweden on Thursday to determine

:29:36. > :29:40.their quarterfinal opponents. But there was a moment of controversy in

:29:41. > :29:46.that match. See what you think. The judges decided not to pick up on it

:29:47. > :29:49.even after they saw the replay. The Russians were leading and Japan

:29:50. > :29:58.appeared to have a perfectly good goal ignored it was just over the

:29:59. > :30:02.line and her team-mate flicked it away. The decision was not sent

:30:03. > :30:07.upstairs for a review and neither did the Japanese bench questioned

:30:08. > :30:19.the issue. They went on and the Russians went on to win 2-1. The

:30:20. > :30:27.cooler the eyes, the better I play. On tour I try to play in ice rinks

:30:28. > :30:34.because I get to practice every day. My favourite West like song is

:30:35. > :30:39.unbreakable because the eyes does not break. We all love curling and

:30:40. > :30:45.both the men's and women's teams were in action. The Ice Cube holds

:30:46. > :30:49.4000 people and it is very noisy because Russia is in action every

:30:50. > :30:58.time we go there. The crowd cheers absolutely everything.

:30:59. > :31:03.Time to focus on Team GB with the boys on ice in their quest for

:31:04. > :31:10.curling gold. They are sitting pretty with a one on one record in

:31:11. > :31:22.the round robin session. Their next opponents were the Germans. Felix

:31:23. > :31:29.Schulze through the last stone. England took the end point. Germany

:31:30. > :31:41.took full advantage by taking points in end too. This is end three, and

:31:42. > :31:49.enter four. Recovery in end five as David manages to recover three

:31:50. > :31:56.points to level the scores. An interval and time to regroup at the

:31:57. > :32:02.halfway point. At N six Felix Schulze delivers. Ends seven, Team

:32:03. > :32:07.GB respond with two of their own. It was tip for tat. At end eight Felix

:32:08. > :32:16.Schulze brings Germany closer to victory. Pressure on GB to claw back

:32:17. > :32:24.and remove German stones. This is the penultimate stone. He has done

:32:25. > :32:29.really well. Job done and scores level at six. Germany own the hammer

:32:30. > :32:37.and it is the last throw. Murder has to play things tactically. This will

:32:38. > :32:46.open up the way for Germany. That is a fantastic shot. The German

:32:47. > :32:53.penultimate stone and an error by Felix Schulze leaves the door open

:32:54. > :32:59.for GB to have a glimmer of hope. The last stone and the last chance

:33:00. > :33:10.for Team GB. The tension mounts and nerves are frayed. Positioning is

:33:11. > :33:13.the key here. A small piece of rubber derails the plan leaving it

:33:14. > :33:21.easy for Germany with the last delivery of the game. Felix Schulze

:33:22. > :33:29.with the last stone. The chance to take this final end. He needs to

:33:30. > :33:34.play a good draw in. The British stone is right on the button. He has

:33:35. > :33:47.had a few problems with his drawers. Oh, my word. Great Britain somehow

:33:48. > :33:57.have grabbed victory. Defeat looked the only possibility. It is always

:33:58. > :34:02.nice to steal a victory like that. We struggled in the first five ends,

:34:03. > :34:09.but we fought hard and we make them play a pressure shot at the end. We

:34:10. > :34:14.will take that went into tomorrow and hopefully bring and a game to

:34:15. > :34:23.Switzerland. The women were in action today. Yesterday's opening

:34:24. > :34:27.game they lost to Sweden. They were pitted against Erika Brown and team

:34:28. > :34:33.USA, also looking for their first victory. Early on Eve Muirhead wood

:34:34. > :34:40.chip away at the Americans, but it would be blown wide open in and

:34:41. > :34:45.number four. The cluster of the grand night rocks grew and grew

:34:46. > :34:51.which turned it into a jackpot of points, eventually won by the GB

:34:52. > :34:57.women. Take a picture of that, because you will not see it very

:34:58. > :35:06.quickly. Almost embarrassment for the US. All smiles for Great

:35:07. > :35:11.Britain. An astonishing 9-1 lead and we are not even at the halfway

:35:12. > :35:16.point. Ends six would prove to be the last end of the game as Team GB

:35:17. > :35:30.increased their lead to a triumphant 12 points, tying an Olympic record.

:35:31. > :35:34.Team USA conceded the match. They tied a record with their score

:35:35. > :35:39.and they set a new record with taking seven in one end. It was an

:35:40. > :35:46.extraordinary victory for Eve Muirhead and her team. Tomorrow they

:35:47. > :35:51.play Canada and Great Britain's men play Switzerland. Now, one of the

:35:52. > :35:57.most anticipated finals of the games. The men's halfpipe. Shaun

:35:58. > :36:02.White is probably one of the biggest stars in winter sports and he had

:36:03. > :36:09.won the medal twice, four years ago and eight years ago, but he was up

:36:10. > :36:14.against tough competition on a very slushy course. We sent Amy Williams

:36:15. > :36:17.to find out all about it. Halfpipe is one of the most

:36:18. > :36:29.spectacular events in Sochi and today the men are in action. # hey,

:36:30. > :36:35.brother, there is an endless road to rediscover. All if the sky comes

:36:36. > :36:42.falling down for you, there is nothing in this world you can do...

:36:43. > :36:46.Snowboarding legend Shaun White is bidding for his third Olympic gold

:36:47. > :36:50.medal in this event, but he is not going to have it easy as the field

:36:51. > :36:56.is really strong with a young pretender from Japan set to push

:36:57. > :37:01.them all the way. Do not beget Ben Kilner and Dom Harrington who are

:37:02. > :37:10.flying the flag for Great Britain. Ben Kilner is currently in 12th. He

:37:11. > :37:14.landed too far down. A disappointment for Ben Kilner after

:37:15. > :37:24.such a strong performance in 2010 in Vancouver. Really disappointing for

:37:25. > :37:30.Ben Kilner who did not land that trick. It will not be enough to put

:37:31. > :37:47.him into the semifinals. Here comes Dom Harrington. France 720, very

:37:48. > :37:54.nice. Double cork, solid. He tried to stay up the pipe in order to get

:37:55. > :38:01.as many tricks as he can. He just went over the nose as he landed. His

:38:02. > :38:10.technique is better than that. Yes, absolutely. Sadly that looks like it

:38:11. > :38:17.might be it for the Brits today. For the main man, Shaun White is about

:38:18. > :38:22.to do his first run. He generates so much speed and his technique is

:38:23. > :38:38.immaculate. That is absolutely massive. 1080, first hit, double

:38:39. > :38:42.cork ten, Switch ten. You know the pipe is in bad condition when even

:38:43. > :38:55.Shaun White is struggling for speed in the middle. That was a stock

:38:56. > :39:05.standard run by Shaun. So he is ranked number one. He scored 95.75.

:39:06. > :39:09.Awesome. That is qualification over. Unfortunately, the British

:39:10. > :39:14.boys will not advance into the final. But Shaun White and all the

:39:15. > :39:20.other big guns will all be going through. But first we have the

:39:21. > :39:25.semifinals to deal with. After all the worry about the snow conditions,

:39:26. > :39:38.we are going to be set for some fireworks once the sun goes down.

:39:39. > :39:42.Eight double ten. We have the top 12 halfpipe riders in the world in the

:39:43. > :39:49.final and I cannot wait to see what happens. Imagine the pressure on

:39:50. > :39:59.Shaun White. Massive, massive, you cannot fault the man. Travelling

:40:00. > :40:07.backwards into the next hit. It is the first time he has ever dropped a

:40:08. > :40:14.trick in an Olympic final. He is going to be all right. Shaun White

:40:15. > :40:25.is human after all. The pressure is now on for him to perform in his

:40:26. > :40:34.second run. Can he do it? Giving as a big run. This is the front slide

:40:35. > :40:43.five. The double 12. The double twist. Into the front side 1080.

:40:44. > :40:49.This is it. He has put it down so clean. What a run from the Swiss

:40:50. > :40:59.rider. Iouri Podladtchikov creates history. The Americans are not

:41:00. > :41:14.looking healthy. You have got Danny Davis in aid, Shaun White in 12th.

:41:15. > :41:27.This is one of the senior riders in the Japanese team at 18! Backside

:41:28. > :41:35.540, we love that. Frontside 900. He lands hard, but hold it. Backside

:41:36. > :41:49.900. Frontside 1080. He waits a second. Into the front double ten.

:41:50. > :41:59.Back-to-back doubles. And Taku Hiraoka has laid down a storming

:42:00. > :42:05.run. Ben Kilner thought it was a fourth. I did not even think it was

:42:06. > :42:20.that high. The penultimate rider to drop, are you move Hirano. Big

:42:21. > :42:35.frontside 1080. Huge double, absolutely perfect double. Frontside

:42:36. > :42:44.900. Backside nine. I am standing up! That was huge. He lost a tiny

:42:45. > :42:51.bit of height on the frontside wall, but the rest of them way

:42:52. > :43:08.huge. I think that is bigger. His throne

:43:09. > :43:18.is under threat. Sit back and watch this. Karen Shaun White handle the

:43:19. > :43:27.pressure? Huge backside air. The frontside 1080. He has gone down. It

:43:28. > :43:33.was good, it was really high. He wanted the double layout. He sat

:43:34. > :43:39.down on that. He has gone for the double McTwist, he has landed that

:43:40. > :43:46.one as well. How did he land that? That is against the laws of physics.

:43:47. > :43:52.No business landing that. Shaun White has missed out on a medal.

:43:53. > :43:58.Shaun White, fourth place, not enough to get him on the podium this

:43:59. > :44:02.time round. The Swiss in first place, and the two Japanese second

:44:03. > :44:10.and third. Unbelievable result, probably not what anybody thought.

:44:11. > :44:19.CLARE BALDING: I would think the discussion is still going on. First

:44:20. > :44:29.of all, reflect on the success of the man they call iPod. How much did

:44:30. > :44:34.he deserve gold medal? He has worked tirelessly in the face of constant

:44:35. > :44:37.defeat to try and build a trick repertoire that would be to Shaun

:44:38. > :44:43.White and he has been stymied at every single junction. Today he woke

:44:44. > :44:50.up and said he felt happy. He said he felt right. And he went the hard

:44:51. > :44:54.way through this, he did qualifying, semifinals and on his

:44:55. > :45:00.first run he laid down an absolutely massive run and gave him the freedom

:45:01. > :45:07.to do this in his second run. He put his foot absolutely flat to the

:45:08. > :45:13.floor. Wound up into this, frontside 1080 and then this trick, he first

:45:14. > :45:22.debuted back in March for the European X Games and it was a 1440,

:45:23. > :45:35.that is for full spins and to corkscrew rotations. He named it the

:45:36. > :45:44.YOLO Filip. Shaun White named him as the danger

:45:45. > :45:50.man. He was saying he is the one. What has the reaction been from

:45:51. > :45:56.Shaun White? He didn't just not win gold, he didn't win a medal. What

:45:57. > :46:01.has he said to the press? We asked him about the fact he was

:46:02. > :46:06.going to start losing, he had won his entire career at how that would

:46:07. > :46:10.feel, in an interview last year so I started with that question. I said,

:46:11. > :46:16.did you lose on your own terms, did you give it your best? He said it

:46:17. > :46:20.wasn't my day today. This is so uncharacteristic. Everybody knows

:46:21. > :46:23.the script when you come to an elite level halfpipe contest. On that

:46:24. > :46:29.first one when he felt the script got torn up and it was anybody's

:46:30. > :46:34.game. Having landed his first run that game Podladtchikov confidence

:46:35. > :46:45.and the belief he could beat him with a good second run. And you

:46:46. > :46:48.really came through the hard way. You were saying that helped him

:46:49. > :46:54.right through the difficult pipe conditions.

:46:55. > :46:59.Just a quick word on the women's downhill tomorrow. There is no

:47:00. > :47:10.Lindsey Vonn, she is injured. Who do you think will win it? Maria is full

:47:11. > :47:16.of confidence after her victory in the super combined but she didn't

:47:17. > :47:23.deed the downhill section. Lara Gut, the young Swiss racer, one of

:47:24. > :47:30.those three. Quite wide open now we don't have Lindsey Vonn.

:47:31. > :47:35.Thank you so much. They have been working hard today. And thank you to

:47:36. > :47:40.Tim as well, part of the commentary team. Just over an hour ago we saw

:47:41. > :47:48.Olympic history as the first ever Olympic champion in women's ski jump

:47:49. > :47:53.was crowned. Quite a competition. Great to see some of the women who

:47:54. > :47:55.have campaigned so hard for this event be included have come out of

:47:56. > :48:00.retirement and hung on through injury.

:48:01. > :48:16.She has beaten Takanashi this year, can she produce it now? Oh, yes! She

:48:17. > :48:19.has gone into the lead. Sara Takanashi, can she produce what

:48:20. > :48:22.everybody in Japan knows she is capable of? So young, so much

:48:23. > :48:36.pressure. Will that be good enough? She has

:48:37. > :48:46.been better than this. Many times before this season. She is in second

:48:47. > :48:49.place. Coline Mattel. Can the Frenchwoman produce a moment to

:48:50. > :49:11.remember for ever? She is not sure. Coline Mattel is in

:49:12. > :49:16.second place. Carina Vogt. To be a champion is fantastic, to be the

:49:17. > :49:17.first champion is Olympic immortality. Does it beckon for the

:49:18. > :49:33.German? Anxious moments, she doesn't know.

:49:34. > :49:42.It is a gold that women's sport has waited a long time to see. But

:49:43. > :49:45.around his neck will it happen? -- Hughes. Everybody has finished now,

:49:46. > :49:53.it is simply a question of the judges marks. Carina Vogt,

:49:54. > :50:01.unbelievable! She has done it. What a moment. Germany celebrates. A

:50:02. > :50:07.piece of history that will never, ever be forgotten.

:50:08. > :50:11.Congratulations to Carina Vogt and Germany. There is still one Winter

:50:12. > :50:15.Olympics port women are not allowed to compete in and that is Nordic

:50:16. > :50:22.combined which is crosscutting treat -- cross-country skiing. There are

:50:23. > :50:23.ways in which they celebrate success and victory and also they registered

:50:24. > :50:34.is fair. -- despair. Andrew Musgrave really thought he

:50:35. > :50:37.had a chance, didn't really know what to say at the time. He found

:50:38. > :50:48.the words later on because he posted this on Twitter. It is, if nothing

:50:49. > :50:53.else, an honest and blood assessment. May not have been overly

:50:54. > :50:59.consoled by somebody who replied who said he would be the fastest badger

:51:00. > :51:05.in Team GB. Snowboarding, we saw the halfpipe earlier on. This really a

:51:06. > :51:14.shock for Shaun White. Maybe a shock for the athletes when they turned up

:51:15. > :51:21.to see it was reasonably slushy. And the US snowboarder put this photo on

:51:22. > :51:27.Insta gram. The practised days have been garbled.

:51:28. > :51:31.Annie Buchanan who has been doing my make up has been addicted to this

:51:32. > :51:54.clip, she has been watching it over and over again online.

:51:55. > :52:25.Is that real? Your guess is as good as mine. The Russian Ministry of

:52:26. > :52:32.internal affairs choir did turn up in the preshow to the opening

:52:33. > :52:37.ceremony performing various covers. I can honestly tell you.

:52:38. > :52:42.I am going to get my curling bagpipers onto YouTube. Let's have a

:52:43. > :52:44.look at tomorrow's line-up and see what is in store. We have already

:52:45. > :52:53.mentioned the women's downhill. There is a huge curling match from

:52:54. > :53:00.ten IM. Britain's women against Canada. This is what you can see on

:53:01. > :53:05.the red button, right through until the figure skating at 10pm. A quick

:53:06. > :53:10.look at the medals table, another good day for Norway, and Canada.

:53:11. > :53:17.They are out in front. It seems relatively slow start for the USA

:53:18. > :53:22.and indeed for Russia. Norway and Canada top the table, Germany have

:53:23. > :53:28.had a good day as well, that first ever gold medal in ski jumper stop

:53:29. > :53:34.Great Britain in 20 First Place. -- 20 First Place. Jenny Jones still

:53:35. > :53:41.the only one on our Great Britain medal podium.

:53:42. > :53:50.Hopefully somebody else will be joining her very soon. Let's have a

:53:51. > :54:04.look at two-day's Winter wonders. -- today. Early fireworks in the

:54:05. > :54:10.Slopestyle final. Devin Logan styled it out with a belly slide. Nice

:54:11. > :54:18.work. Germany versus Sweden had it all.

:54:19. > :54:42.And finally when she sent him tells you to sweep, you jolly well do it.

:54:43. > :54:49.We enjoy that bit. Just a bit of fun. If you cannot have fun at the

:54:50. > :54:53.Winter Olympics, when can you? We are walking around with a shopping

:54:54. > :55:00.trolley. Tomorrow there are six gold medals on offer. They include the

:55:01. > :55:07.start of the double louche, the women's downhill, brilliant curling

:55:08. > :55:12.matches. Watch out for Great Britain against Canada. This ice hockey

:55:13. > :55:19.stadium will be buzzing once again. The park will be for of the weird

:55:20. > :55:21.and wonderful. Get up early for the women's downhill. Goodbye.
