:00:16. > :00:51.chill upon your neck. I am the conundrum.

:00:52. > :01:13.COMMENTATOR: He is under threat. It was good, but Shaun White has missed

:01:14. > :01:20.out on a medal. Taku Hiraoka is ready for Japan. Into the front

:01:21. > :01:25.double 10... Oh! A huge double, absolutely perfect. And that was

:01:26. > :01:31.massive! I am standing up! Oh, he has put it so clean. What a

:01:32. > :01:46.run! CLAIRE BALDING: Tell you what, they

:01:47. > :01:49.ought to rename it the full pike because they don't do things by

:01:50. > :01:54.halves. Today we will see the women dropping to technical snowboarding.

:01:55. > :01:58.Welcome to a highlights programme, one hour-long where we will show you

:01:59. > :02:02.the best of the chat, reaction and chat as well. The serious side and a

:02:03. > :02:04.bit of fun because that is what the Winter Olympics is all about. Coming

:02:05. > :02:18.up... The queens of speed hit the

:02:19. > :02:40.downhill... Could skater Shani Seals super

:02:41. > :02:49.skater status? And it was double trouble in the luge.

:02:50. > :02:55.And also on the show tonight, we will be catching up with our curlers

:02:56. > :02:59.and bring you up to date with the social media, Ollie Williams will be

:03:00. > :03:03.with us once again. It has been a hot day by the Black Sea today but I

:03:04. > :03:06.am well aware of how dreadful the weather is at home and just to say

:03:07. > :03:10.that we are thinking of you and we know that in some areas in

:03:11. > :03:13.particular, it is absolutely horrendous. We will show you first

:03:14. > :03:24.of all the women's halfpipe action. The USA, have not come away with a

:03:25. > :03:31.medal and they had some strong contenders, with former Olympic

:03:32. > :03:34.medallists, how did they get on? We will show you later on with a guide

:03:35. > :03:41.to the terminology you will need to know for the halfpipe.

:03:42. > :03:48.With its origins in skateboarding, the halfpipe is a chance for

:03:49. > :03:52.competitors to put on a real show. From the start gate, riders drop

:03:53. > :03:58.into the pipe using the curved transition of the wall to gain some

:03:59. > :04:02.speed. Competitors leave the lip of the pipe to perform rotations and

:04:03. > :04:08.flips in the air. If combine, they are known as corkscrew spins or

:04:09. > :04:11.corks. The top riders will be attempting triple core spins. The

:04:12. > :04:16.competition consists of three phases. Heaps, semifinals and a

:04:17. > :04:21.final. Each rider has two runs per phase and only their best score

:04:22. > :04:25.counts. American Shaun White is the king of the snowboard halfpipe

:04:26. > :04:27.having won gold medals in 2006 and 2010.

:04:28. > :04:36.COMMENTATOR: That is mind blowing! Silver medallist in 2010, dropping

:04:37. > :05:12.in with plenty of speed. You really have got to have your

:05:13. > :05:18.legs turned on in this halfpipe tonight.

:05:19. > :05:29.Two 720s. A very big run from Hannah Teeter.

:05:30. > :05:37.Three riders left to drop after Hannah. And judging by what we have

:05:38. > :05:44.seen so far, we are looking at the beginning of the business end of

:05:45. > :05:51.this halfpipe final. She didn't grab it properly there, at the back of

:05:52. > :05:59.the binding. First place for Hannah Teter. It is the reigning Olympic

:06:00. > :06:04.champion, Australia's Torah Bright having come back that injury. She

:06:05. > :06:09.absolutely loves her snowboarding, she enjoys it so much. She decided

:06:10. > :06:17.that she would test herself. And she has entered three disciplines. She

:06:18. > :06:22.came seventh in slopestyle. She blew a kiss to the volunteers at the

:06:23. > :06:27.top, that is how nice she is. This is going to get technical. We have

:06:28. > :06:48.not seen that on the first time! She didn't bail out but she couldn't

:06:49. > :06:51.control it there. Such a shame. These women are struggling with the

:06:52. > :06:55.pipe now. We are on the same page that we were last night, the riders

:06:56. > :06:58.who hadn't gone through the semifinals are now riding a

:06:59. > :07:01.different pipe to the women they were riding in qualifying for the

:07:02. > :07:08.obvious, they have had training but under pressure... Let's see that

:07:09. > :07:12.twist, look at this. If she goes home without a medal, it doesn't

:07:13. > :07:15.matter because you can take a still grab from base and update her

:07:16. > :07:22.Facebook profile picture because that was amazing. Unfamiliar

:07:23. > :07:28.territory for the Australian, down in eighth position. Now, Kelly

:07:29. > :07:33.Clark, Gold medallist in 2002, bronze medallist in 2010. We'll see

:07:34. > :07:39.her go absolutely massive on this first hit. She has gone for the

:07:40. > :07:41.front side air first hit. The only girl with a big 1080 in her

:07:42. > :07:53.repertoire. She landed that not cleanly but it

:07:54. > :07:57.was so big. Oh, no! Kelly Clark has fallen down at exactly the same

:07:58. > :08:02.point as Torah Bright. You wonder if there is a bit of aching in the pipe

:08:03. > :08:09.wall there because it is not like these riders, they are so talented.

:08:10. > :08:14.They are not going down easily. She is devastated, as he would be. Both

:08:15. > :08:20.had great practices, they both rode really well in practice and maybe

:08:21. > :08:24.there is something in the pipe, maybe it is churned up. You can see

:08:25. > :08:25.how much the boards are chattering along this snow, it is not a smooth

:08:26. > :08:44.run for the gills. -- for the girls. So Hannah Teter in first place,

:08:45. > :09:00.Barrington in second. -- Farrington.

:09:01. > :09:15.Kelly Clark is not used to being in 10th. And now it is Caitlin

:09:16. > :09:19.Farrington -- Kaitlyn Farrington. She had a fantastic run and I were

:09:20. > :09:24.speculating that it was a great technical run she laid down but she

:09:25. > :09:28.did not have the amplitude. She proved me very wrong with the first

:09:29. > :09:34.run. Where will she improve on it? She needs to do it again. Get the

:09:35. > :09:39.grabs a bit cleaner. Get some good solid grabs and show the judges that

:09:40. > :09:45.she is in control but you talk about people seizing the moment, all of a

:09:46. > :10:01.sudden she is topping the leaderboard.

:10:02. > :10:04.A difficult trick to pull in the middle of the pipe because you kill

:10:05. > :10:18.so much speed. Not as much amplitude on the second

:10:19. > :10:23.trick. She seemed to carry rather than put the board directly up the

:10:24. > :10:27.pipe to shoot out the top of it, she has traversed and gone down the pipe

:10:28. > :10:39.and gone with it. The final trick here. Neither of the top true tricks

:10:40. > :10:46.yet. 91.75, unbelievable! Maybe it was the bigger air to start with?

:10:47. > :10:57.Hannah Teter is currently sat in silver. She is an Olympic veteran

:10:58. > :11:02.from tiering and Vancouver. -- from Turin. She knows what it means to

:11:03. > :11:08.get a gold medal. Can she pull it out of the bag here? This is key.

:11:09. > :11:12.She has done it the right way, put her score on the board that she is

:11:13. > :11:18.going out to prove it, that is exactly what Kaitlyn Farrington has

:11:19. > :11:22.done as well, put her score on the board and then improved it. But

:11:23. > :11:35.Kaitlyn Farrington has now put the pressure on everybody else.

:11:36. > :11:47.Oh, she's gone... So it will not be gold for Hannah Teter in 2014. Will

:11:48. > :11:52.she be able to add another silver medal to her collection though?

:11:53. > :11:56.Three riders left to drop who will determine that and her fate is out

:11:57. > :12:07.of her hands now. A stale fish grab invented by Tony

:12:08. > :12:14.Hawk, the grab on the heel hedge on the back, over rotates... It is like

:12:15. > :12:18.her legs gave up and whether that is... These girls are serious

:12:19. > :12:26.athletes, I don't think it was a case of weak legs there. We have

:12:27. > :12:29.seen that flatter landings survived. She just got a love in the pipe so

:12:30. > :12:40.26.75. Torah Bright is ready to drop, the

:12:41. > :12:43.reigning Olympic champion. Disappointing run before, she has

:12:44. > :12:51.been in this position before, she won with her second run before and

:12:52. > :12:54.we are asking, can she do it again? Her brother, very vocal about the

:12:55. > :13:00.condition of this halfpipe, a big slam in training two days ago.

:13:01. > :13:06.Overcome that though, and she is so tough. You don't get to this level

:13:07. > :13:11.of the game without taking some meaty slams. She has had more than

:13:12. > :13:12.her fair share. And she has got a smile that can bring about world

:13:13. > :13:28.peace. Absolutely massive, landed at the

:13:29. > :13:32.top of the transition, it was perfect.

:13:33. > :13:44.How did she hold of two that? -- hold onto that?

:13:45. > :13:51.Backside radio... Yes! And she held onto it, that was a beautiful run.

:13:52. > :13:59.That was brilliant from the Australian. That has got it all.

:14:00. > :14:06.Absolutely stunning. It is big, clean and its technical. And really

:14:07. > :14:12.stylish. We said in the semifinals, how Torah Bright, she rides like a

:14:13. > :14:18.girl, she is feminine, she looks nice, that may be wrong to say but

:14:19. > :14:22.look how happy she is. If you are talking jeopardy points, that is as

:14:23. > :14:29.good as ten in my eyes. That is absolutely massive. We thought it

:14:30. > :14:34.might go wrong, she was fighting for the last 180 degrees of rotation. At

:14:35. > :14:42.act merely dislocated, how did she land that? And then the outside

:14:43. > :14:51.rodeo alley oop. She lands that perfectly. 91.5! She is a quarter of

:14:52. > :14:57.a point short of Kaitlyn Farrington! It is a cruel world. I

:14:58. > :15:01.am not sure I agree with that. I don't, really. That was a much

:15:02. > :15:06.cleaner run and Kaitlyn Farrington and just as technical. She

:15:07. > :15:09.commiserate is with the competitor knocked out of the bronze medal

:15:10. > :15:14.position. So Torah Bright is in silver, Hannah Teter in bronze,

:15:15. > :15:20.Kaitlyn Farrington still with the golden medal position but this

:15:21. > :15:26.woman, the most experienced female halfpipe competitor in the world. 18

:15:27. > :15:37.years old when she won her first gold in such laxity in 2002, -- in

:15:38. > :15:42.Salt Lake City in 2002. In Vancouver, she took bronze. They are

:15:43. > :15:47.looking at the big screen and had spotted themselves and sitting on

:15:48. > :15:57.podium there, the last person in the world that you would want to come

:15:58. > :16:12.down would be Kelly Clark! Here we go. This is it.

:16:13. > :16:45.-- backside air. This goes to show how friendly the girls are. They

:16:46. > :16:51.have been broken off. They have taken so many big hits in their

:16:52. > :16:59.careers. They respect each other's riding. I don't think that would be

:17:00. > :17:11.enough. We saw Torah Bright not far off that. She gets the grab here.

:17:12. > :17:20.She doesn't get all the rich -- she doesn't get all the way round. She

:17:21. > :17:34.lands a bit flat and then turns it round. She still recovers but still

:17:35. > :17:50.makes the 720. There is no one else doing this. It is a huge trick. It

:17:51. > :17:55.was as big as Torah Bright. Another bronze medal for Kelly Clark. Hannah

:17:56. > :18:05.Teter is bumps of the podium. Kaitlyn Farrington will take gold at

:18:06. > :18:20.her first ever Olympics. She takes gold and the top spot in a half pike

:18:21. > :18:27.-- halfpipe competition. Hannah Teter is in fourth place. The

:18:28. > :18:33.Japanese will be so pleased. How did it go for you? You through it all on

:18:34. > :18:38.the line and it paid for you. I had the run that I wanted to do and I

:18:39. > :18:42.came out of my first round. For my second, I knew I had to clean it up

:18:43. > :18:51.a little bit. You didn't look nervous under pressure. I got the

:18:52. > :18:57.nerves out during qualifiers. I was able to ride to the semifinals and

:18:58. > :18:58.it was extra practice for me. I felt really confident going into the

:18:59. > :19:11.final. Kaitlyn Farrington is only 23. She

:19:12. > :19:18.was raised in Idaho and first went skiing at three years old. We are

:19:19. > :19:25.going to go back live now to the extreme Park. Ed Leigh is there.

:19:26. > :19:32.What a brilliant gold medal for her. I know you feel Torah Bright was

:19:33. > :19:38.hard done by in terms of the judging. There was only a quarter of

:19:39. > :19:44.a point separating them. Kaitlyn Farrington on the first two jumps

:19:45. > :19:49.that she did, there were technical jumps but they were not back clean

:19:50. > :19:54.and high. You compare that to Torah Bright and she carries so much speed

:19:55. > :20:04.in the. These first two macro hits are huge. She said in an interview

:20:05. > :20:08.that it wasn't as cleaner she can go. There was a couple of mistakes

:20:09. > :20:17.there and she is going huge through this whole run. You compare that to

:20:18. > :20:20.Kaitlyn Farrington and she did have some technical tricks but Kaitlyn

:20:21. > :20:25.Farrington doesn't have the same amplitude.

:20:26. > :20:40.Torah Bright has the whole package. Kaitlyn Farrington doesn't have the

:20:41. > :20:44.same height. Controversial judging. On the men, Shaun White without a

:20:45. > :20:52.medal. I know he was asked if he would be competing and it sound --

:20:53. > :20:57.competing in 2018 and it sounded like he might be. Are there new

:20:58. > :20:59.stars on the block or is it a shame that Shaun White wasn't there in the

:21:00. > :21:12.medals? Shaun White has got to the size now

:21:13. > :21:17.where he is almost a brand. It was a victory where we have seen this new

:21:18. > :21:21.talent emerging. It was a fantastic story overall and it is good

:21:22. > :21:29.practice for Shaun White to start losing because he might have to get

:21:30. > :21:34.used to it. It will be interesting to see how he uses it as motivation.

:21:35. > :21:47.Here is what is still to come between now and 8pm.

:21:48. > :22:09.We are curling with Britain's men and women. Doubling up in the luge.

:22:10. > :22:25.And we follow a skating legend going for a trouble. -- treble. There is

:22:26. > :22:30.lots to show you but on Sunday morning I headed up the mountain to

:22:31. > :22:35.watch the men's downhill and it is extraordinary to see the spade that

:22:36. > :22:39.they travel at. Today was the women's downhill and Amy Williams

:22:40. > :22:46.got to see a bit of Alpine skiing history. There is so many parallels

:22:47. > :22:55.between skeleton and downhill. Speed, adrenaline, danger. Mindsets,

:22:56. > :23:04.focus, one way down with them optimal line. Mistakes cost time or

:23:05. > :23:19.worse. So many parallels. Time to compare notes. There are definite

:23:20. > :23:24.parallels. You need to have a fast-moving brain and a relaxed body

:23:25. > :23:28.while you are doing that. Visualisation is the key so you have

:23:29. > :23:33.the right mental mindset before you push out of the start gate. It is

:23:34. > :23:37.picking the right line on the racetrack. We have a lot of training

:23:38. > :23:43.runs to get in before the downhill. We have to make sure we know exactly

:23:44. > :23:49.where we are going at each point and visualisation is so important. We do

:23:50. > :23:55.it at the top and the bottom. Psychology, the fear that is in your

:23:56. > :24:01.head. For us, that visualisation and working with the psychologist is

:24:02. > :24:06.important. Working on conquering fear is a key to downhill. Everyone

:24:07. > :24:11.feels fear. You will be crazy if you didn't but it is about how to ignore

:24:12. > :24:18.that fear and park it somewhere in the back of your head and do your

:24:19. > :24:23.race anyway. Before the start, each competitor is at the top. I know

:24:24. > :24:27.what that feels like. It is your turn to perform and do everything

:24:28. > :24:32.you have done in your training. For years and years, it comes down to

:24:33. > :24:36.this single run. Getting that speed and allowing it to become your

:24:37. > :24:46.friend, giving it your all must be an amazing feeling.

:24:47. > :25:00.It could be a good number for her today. She sets the pace. 1:41.94

:25:01. > :25:04.seconds. First and only French racer in the competition today. Marie

:25:05. > :25:24.Marchand-Arvier. Gosh, she is down. Remarkably, she is back on her skis.

:25:25. > :25:35.The second Swiss racer to tackle the Olympic course.

:25:36. > :25:46.She is certainly flying at the top here. Dominique Gisin. She is just

:25:47. > :25:56.back. She will know exactly how the

:25:57. > :26:07.courses running. A little bit late in the line.

:26:08. > :26:17.Getting that hip inside the turn. She takes that well. Fastest in

:26:18. > :26:20.training run number three. Into the final pitch. Lots of noise from the

:26:21. > :26:38.Swiss fans as the cow bells ring. She has it. Daniela Merighetti, the

:26:39. > :26:47.first of the Italians to go this morning. She is really putting her

:26:48. > :26:51.foot down here. She drifted so wide of the racing line there and she

:26:52. > :27:07.seems to be out of steam. She has gone into silver.

:27:08. > :27:13.She sets in further line and goes for a full second down. Too many

:27:14. > :27:33.errors today. She has had a cracking season. Can

:27:34. > :27:42.she make it happen today when it matters most?

:27:43. > :28:01.She doesn't want to be finishing fourth. It has been effortless. A

:28:02. > :28:05.solitary jumper. Easy over her skis. Now she can set up and ride and

:28:06. > :28:21.glide for the line. Lara Coote tucks in. She is second for Switzerland.

:28:22. > :28:27.-- Lara Gut. It is the turn of the Olympic super combined champion,

:28:28. > :28:39.Maria Hofl-Riesch from Germany. This is the one she really wants. She is

:28:40. > :28:59.letting it slip away. It is ninth in the end. Tina Maze is next. She did

:29:00. > :29:04.so well in the downhill part of the compound. She was third. She is

:29:05. > :29:11.going to really want to make the podium today. It is great skiing

:29:12. > :29:15.here. Very good skiing and she is throwing caution to the wind down

:29:16. > :29:26.hair. She is going to make a great move here. Tina Maze looking to be

:29:27. > :29:33.the first Slovenian to win a medal at the Winter Olympic Games. She

:29:34. > :29:39.needs to be ahead at the next split and she is getting quicker and

:29:40. > :29:43.quicker. I have goose bumps watching mess. It is so good to see her on

:29:44. > :29:58.form. -- watching this. Tina Maze is hoping to break Swiss

:29:59. > :30:03.hearts here at Rosa Khutor. She tucks in for the line and skis for

:30:04. > :30:11.the gold medal... She is dead level with Gisin! Equal, one: 41.57. If it

:30:12. > :30:20.stays like that, they will have to find an extra gold medal.

:30:21. > :30:27.Ten two is fast and furious and has all the Austrian resources behind

:30:28. > :30:34.her but she has ground to a halt, it is over for Fenninger. That's how

:30:35. > :30:39.they look at the two leaders. This shows you the difference between

:30:40. > :30:48.them. They are almost neck and neck here. Very similar style of skiing,

:30:49. > :30:51.dropping to the inside, Maze back into the tack a bit earlier. A

:30:52. > :30:57.similar line, it is almost picture perfect.

:30:58. > :31:05.Chemmy Alcott is looking for a place in the top 15 which would be good.

:31:06. > :31:09.This course can vision is -- because conditions are not great, it is a

:31:10. > :31:16.bit slushy. The slushy snow will not help us be bit looks like she's

:31:17. > :31:21.giving it all she can. She lost some time on the steep section but she

:31:22. > :31:29.has not lost too much and there we go... 19th. Do you think she will be

:31:30. > :31:34.happy with that? I think she is just happy to get to the Olympics. You

:31:35. > :31:38.get a two-minute run to prove things. Every time I come back from

:31:39. > :31:42.these like breaks, I try to prove it and a top 20 finish is amazing

:31:43. > :31:48.justice after what I have been through. I did not disappoint myself

:31:49. > :31:51.it was not pretty but it was fast. Bronze for Lara Gut and the gold

:31:52. > :32:06.shared between Gisin and Maze. CLAIRE BALDING: That gave us

:32:07. > :32:10.something that has been seen at the Winter Olympics before but never an

:32:11. > :32:14.alpine skiing. We will reflect on this with Graham Bell. Normally one

:32:15. > :32:21.would save where was it won and lost, but in this case it's where

:32:22. > :32:24.was it won and won? It was incredible case and I don't think we

:32:25. > :32:31.have had a gold medal time in the Olympic Games, World Championships

:32:32. > :32:38.in the Super-G and I think Hermann Maier tied with his opponent. We

:32:39. > :32:43.time to hundredths of a second so we have got an analysis here which will

:32:44. > :32:47.show us the two runs and we have on the left-hand side of the screen,

:32:48. > :32:54.Gisin in red and on the right-hand side, Maze. Ignore the split times

:32:55. > :33:03.of Gisin because that was against the race I ahead of her. But look at

:33:04. > :33:08.Maze on the right of the screen as she drops in, she makes a big

:33:09. > :33:14.mistake on the turn from this point, you can just see the difference in

:33:15. > :33:19.speed. Gisin is visibly faster down this bottom section carrying much

:33:20. > :33:22.more speed and catching up all the time, just a fraction of a second

:33:23. > :33:29.behind and almost level as they cross the line. If they cross the

:33:30. > :33:33.line at 30 metres per second, then a hundred of a second is about 30

:33:34. > :33:36.centimetres, it is that distance and that is wide ski racers will reach

:33:37. > :33:40.towards the line to break the beam for that extra fraction of a second

:33:41. > :33:47.but they both did it and came across the line together. Great analysis,

:33:48. > :33:50.thank you Graham. A brilliant women's downhill to enjoy and

:33:51. > :33:55.congratulations to Chemmy Alcott for coming back from a third broken leg

:33:56. > :34:01.within four years and finishing in the top 20. Ollie Williams is across

:34:02. > :34:05.all things social media and I was looking up Tina Maze earlier on this

:34:06. > :34:11.morning, she is a pop star as well as a skier. Yes, but first of all,

:34:12. > :34:16.she's also a woman who has so much emotion, she posted a Facebook

:34:17. > :34:20.update after winning, 50,000 likes and showing in the background a map

:34:21. > :34:24.of the course with the Olympic rings drawn and the number one behind it

:34:25. > :34:31.and speaking of number ones, she is a pop star in Slovenia as well. She

:34:32. > :34:35.has a single entitled My Way Is My Decision which has had millions of

:34:36. > :34:41.YouTube views. I cannot tell you where it charted but she is one of

:34:42. > :34:47.the more unusual characters. I believe she is Slovenia's first

:34:48. > :34:52.Winter Olympic gold medallist if not there first Olympic gold racing, we

:34:53. > :34:57.have been told to explain what barrel racing is, it is like a

:34:58. > :34:59.Gymkhana race but around barrels on a quarter horse. Just a reminder

:35:00. > :35:06.that this starts tomorrow. COMMENTATOR: Amy Williams is the

:35:07. > :35:29.queen of speed! Lizzy Yarnold and Shelley Rudman

:35:30. > :35:33.have been getting faster and faster in training and they start their

:35:34. > :35:35.challenge for a medal at 7:30am tomorrow morning. Also in terms of

:35:36. > :35:43.morning action, James Woods in the freestyle skiing slopestyle and

:35:44. > :35:47.Elise Christie in short track speed skating and more curling and GB's

:35:48. > :35:49.winning started in high spirits today having set an Olympic record

:35:50. > :36:04.against the USA yesterday. MUSIC: "U Can't Touch This" by MC

:36:05. > :36:21.Hammer. I think we broke another big

:36:22. > :36:26.record! Yes, seven points in one and set a new Olympic first yesterday

:36:27. > :36:29.and a grand total of 12 equalled another Winter Games milestone.

:36:30. > :36:31.Confidence was high then as they headed into their matchup versus

:36:32. > :36:37.Canada this morning against Jennifer Jones, Canada's skip and Olympic

:36:38. > :36:46.favourite. Straight to an four here, Canada leading 3-1 with a mistake by

:36:47. > :36:52.Jones. A week delivery gives Eve Muirhead the chance to capitalise

:36:53. > :36:59.and grab two points. And a shot delivered, mission accomplished.

:37:00. > :37:03.John is trying to clear British stones aims for three points before

:37:04. > :37:11.the interval. -- Jones trying to clear. Team GB respond in and six.

:37:12. > :37:22.-- end six. That will make her feel better. The

:37:23. > :37:29.gap was close but Jones was not rattled. 7-5, and it all came down

:37:30. > :37:33.to the final skip's stones in end ten.

:37:34. > :37:40.Trying to move both of the yellows with the final stone.

:37:41. > :37:47.It is an all or nothing shot. What an end this would be to a great

:37:48. > :37:50.match between the two of them. It has been close and Eve Muirhead

:37:51. > :37:59.coming with the chance of a really big shot here... It has given the

:38:00. > :38:03.much to Canada. We had a chance to get a triple takeout and it was not

:38:04. > :38:09.an easy shot, I would not have gone for it if I did not think it was

:38:10. > :38:12.there but these things happen. With the sun setting over the Black Sea,

:38:13. > :38:18.the ice cube was getting ready for evening play as the men of Team GB

:38:19. > :38:21.took to the ice. David Murdoch was still counting his blessings from

:38:22. > :38:28.yesterday's when handed to them by Germany. -- yesterday's win. It

:38:29. > :38:35.would be the Swiss team aiming to put holes in today's plans for Team

:38:36. > :38:40.GB. In end three, Murdoch was in full control. Yet his attempt at

:38:41. > :38:46.getting two points failed as one stone straight off course leaving

:38:47. > :38:51.him with just a single. The Swiss came out swinging but shot after

:38:52. > :38:55.shot, end after end ended in disappointment. It would be 2-1 by

:38:56. > :39:01.the interval with Great Britain on top. David Murdoch added another

:39:02. > :39:05.point when they would be flummoxed as further tactics on how to protect

:39:06. > :39:08.their house were discussed. Legal here, legal here... If we play this

:39:09. > :39:19.one, I don't know. Team GB were not going to back down

:39:20. > :39:23.and managed to protect their lead, frustrating the Swiss. The struggle

:39:24. > :39:26.would endure right until the final end and the last chance for spending

:39:27. > :39:34.the show to place a stone in a tactical position. -- last chance

:39:35. > :39:35.for Sven Michel to place a stone. COMMENTATOR: That is a pretty good

:39:36. > :39:41.shot. His final act was to raise any of

:39:42. > :39:49.Switzerland's hopes in this game. David Murdoch is looking to push

:39:50. > :40:05.that Swiss stone out. He has done it, very well done,

:40:06. > :40:08.David Murdoch. Another win so Great Britain take this four - two against

:40:09. > :40:11.Switzerland meaning they have won three of the first four matches and

:40:12. > :40:17.are sitting very nicely indeed in the round robin. I wanted to come up

:40:18. > :40:22.with intensity and focus and you saw that in our game, we were clinical

:40:23. > :40:26.and it was a lot more fire in the stomach today. We were going hard

:40:27. > :40:29.for everything. And both the men and women will be back in action

:40:30. > :40:33.tomorrow and you can see how they get on as they round robin matches

:40:34. > :40:36.continue. But the beautiful thing about the Winter Olympics is that

:40:37. > :40:40.once every four years, we get to indulge in sports we would not see

:40:41. > :40:46.at any other time. The one that requires the closest personal

:40:47. > :40:47.relationship is doubles luge. Let's see what happened with Colin Bryce

:40:48. > :41:06.and Paul Dickenson. Tonight I come to the Sanki Sliding

:41:07. > :41:12.Center to witness one of the quirkiest events of the Winter

:41:13. > :41:16.Olympics, men's double luge. With strong Latvian, Austrian and German

:41:17. > :41:20.entries, the big question is who will end up on top tonight?

:41:21. > :41:26.A luge has got sharper blade than the other sports, Bobsleigh and

:41:27. > :41:29.skeleton in particular are very rounded and flat and you tend to

:41:30. > :41:33.skip or more, and luge is sharper and you can cut the ice quicker, you

:41:34. > :41:38.got afford to make mistakes here. Luge is the fastest of all of them.

:41:39. > :41:41.They will hit around 138 kilometres per hour.

:41:42. > :41:53.Why the German domination? Georg Hackl is coaching Wendl and Arlt and

:41:54. > :42:00.is brilliant at understanding the science of sliding down a hill

:42:01. > :42:04.quickly. Who else will compete? The Linger Brothers of Austria, they won

:42:05. > :42:14.the last two Olympics. They might be able to challenge Wendl and Arlt and

:42:15. > :42:26.the other Germans, Egger and Banneker, and the Austrians as well.

:42:27. > :42:29.When you watch double loop -- luge it is amazing with the speed but if

:42:30. > :42:38.you snooze, you luge. The double epic champions, Andreas

:42:39. > :42:44.and Wolfgang Linger. They have gone into the lead already and this will

:42:45. > :42:50.put down a big lead. Wendl and Arlt, this is a big hope for Germany.

:42:51. > :42:59.Quicker than the Lingers! That is a massively.

:43:00. > :43:04.If anybody can beat Wendl and Arlt, it is these

:43:05. > :43:18.that was horrible, a big slide there. We do not know much about

:43:19. > :43:23.Peter Penz and his partner. That has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons.

:43:24. > :43:26.That was the end of the first run and no surprise that Wendl and Arlt

:43:27. > :43:33.are in the lead. It was a surprise with the second German sled who had

:43:34. > :43:38.an absolute shocker but that had made the chase for medals absolutely

:43:39. > :43:45.fascinating. Any of these crews could take gold now. In striking

:43:46. > :43:55.position to take the lead now and maybe get the medals. That is

:43:56. > :43:57.definitely fast as we have seen. The faces of the two men who have got to

:43:58. > :44:17.produce the ride of their life. Here we go, the Linger brothers...

:44:18. > :44:20.They are almost two tenths of a second up, losing a bit of the lead

:44:21. > :44:28.but not too much. Getting it together at the end here.

:44:29. > :44:42.It is a litre. We are two minutes away from finding out if they have

:44:43. > :44:46.won three Olympics in a row. The Linger brothers going for the lead.

:44:47. > :44:54.Surely the Germans aren't going to take that lying down. The destiny of

:44:55. > :44:58.the luge pairings goes from here. Can they keep it together? It looks

:44:59. > :45:14.like Germany are going to do it again. That is absolutely superb.

:45:15. > :45:21.Germany win gold in the luge doubles adding to the two goals that they

:45:22. > :45:27.weren't in the men's singles and the women's singles. Jimmy are the Sochi

:45:28. > :45:44.sliding sensation. It was a golden day for Germany.

:45:45. > :45:50.Eric Frenzel will have impressed. He took the northern tip -- the Nordic

:45:51. > :45:55.combined gold today. He won the cross-country leg with ease. Now we

:45:56. > :46:01.are going to move to speed skating because Great Britain is very good

:46:02. > :46:09.at short track skating. The Dutch are the ones who dominate speed

:46:10. > :46:15.skating. They are pretty good at every distance apart from the 1000

:46:16. > :46:18.metres and that is because Shani Davis has dominated that category

:46:19. > :46:26.over the last couple of Olympics. How did he get on today?

:46:27. > :46:36.The atmosphere is building here. History might be made tonight. Shani

:46:37. > :46:40.Davis won gold in Turin and Vancouver and tonight he is looking

:46:41. > :46:52.to win third consecutive medals in this event. Let us get the lowdown.

:46:53. > :47:00.What character is he? A very focused athlete. He was asked to carry the

:47:01. > :47:06.Olympic flag. He turned the committee down. He said he would

:47:07. > :47:14.carry it in the closing ceremony. The eyes of the world are on Shani

:47:15. > :47:23.Davis but these guys are rooting for Michelle Muda. -- Michel Mulder.

:47:24. > :47:38.Stefan Groothuis took to the ice. He is so strong.

:47:39. > :47:51.Lining up for the completion of the opening 200. Stefan Groothuis not

:47:52. > :48:09.renowned for his top speed but the last 500 metres, he is very good.

:48:10. > :48:17.Both are in touch of the leading time. It is all about the strength

:48:18. > :48:23.and power now. All those hours they have trained beginning to reflect as

:48:24. > :48:31.they come off the bend and line-up for the run-up to the line.

:48:32. > :48:46.They are both ahead. Stefan Groothuis set another record. Then

:48:47. > :48:50.it was the turn of Michel Mulder going for his second gold. It didn't

:48:51. > :49:01.quite go to plan. Looking for the finish.

:49:02. > :49:11.Great skating from the Canadian. Shani Davis attempting to be the

:49:12. > :49:12.first Olympian to win three gold medals in three games. Could he do

:49:13. > :49:31.it? Shani Davis, what can he do now? He is a man with a mission hair. He

:49:32. > :50:02.wants to get that third gold medal. At the moment he is off the pace of

:50:03. > :50:08.Stefan Groothuis. Shani Davis digging deep. I don't think he is

:50:09. > :50:21.going to do it. He is not going to achieve that

:50:22. > :50:28.third gold medal. He will be very disappointed with that. This is

:50:29. > :50:34.incredible. We came here to talk about Shani Davis and Stefan

:50:35. > :50:40.Groothuis is the Olympic champion. Can you put a finger on what

:50:41. > :50:48.happened? The speed was OK but compared to those before me, it

:50:49. > :50:52.wasn't fast enough. Bought -- what about expectation? I couldn't care

:50:53. > :50:55.less about the titles or anything like that. I have the medals and

:50:56. > :51:14.most important is the performance. I am delighted to say I have been

:51:15. > :51:22.joined by Robin Cousins. 1980 Olympic champion and didn't you

:51:23. > :51:27.watch a wonderful pairs final today. It was a thrilling final. The

:51:28. > :51:31.Chinese took them over four years ago but the Russians have been

:51:32. > :51:36.skating brilliantly for the past few days and they didn't let anybody

:51:37. > :51:48.down tonight. Specifically with the Olympic champions as Russia take the

:51:49. > :51:52.Olympic title. Here they are, Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim

:51:53. > :51:56.Trankov. They were not faultless. There was a little bit of a

:51:57. > :52:03.touchdown with the hand. It was solid enough and they were streets

:52:04. > :52:07.ahead. I love the second Russian team, federal claim off and Ksenia

:52:08. > :52:32.Stolbova. They were hoping to be pressure rising for the gold medal

:52:33. > :52:34.but had to settle for bronze. Be poured German pair dropped down and

:52:35. > :52:44.they had a shocker. They won the world Championships but

:52:45. > :52:49.the Germans were hoping that this could be their season to really push

:52:50. > :52:54.and regain that title. It wasn't to be. They knew they had to deliver

:52:55. > :53:00.the hard tricks. They had to go for the throw triple axel but it wasn't

:53:01. > :53:05.to be tonight. Tomorrow they will wake up and realise that they had

:53:06. > :53:15.won a bronze medal but they did not lose the gold. Tomorrow, the men's

:53:16. > :53:17.challenge against. There are eight of them fighting for medal podium

:53:18. > :53:30.places. I am happy to sit and watch. You

:53:31. > :53:38.have new knees now. It is lovely to hate your expertise. Let us have a

:53:39. > :54:06.look at the medal table. -- it is lovely to have your expertise.

:54:07. > :54:16.This is a photo of Lizzie your mould on her last track walk. Follow her

:54:17. > :54:20.online. It is fascinating to learn about the different places that she

:54:21. > :54:25.slides. If we were to look up above us, we would see the International

:54:26. > :54:29.space Station because NASA is tweeting photographs of the Olympic

:54:30. > :54:36.Park from space. You can see the orange circle in the bottom

:54:37. > :54:42.right-hand corner there. That is us. Well they look down, the team GB

:54:43. > :54:49.athletes are looking up. Here is a photo from David King looking up at

:54:50. > :54:53.the sky. He can see a sole tyre of Scotland in the contrails of the

:54:54. > :55:08.aircraft behind the Olympic Cauldron. The Sochi trolley carries

:55:09. > :55:14.on to amuse us. This is a church that has made their own BBC trolley.

:55:15. > :55:21.It is a beautiful wreck -- replica and we need it because our trolley

:55:22. > :55:26.is packed to the rafters. It is getting very fall but it now has a

:55:27. > :55:32.flag on it. Thank you so much. We will talk to you tomorrow. This is

:55:33. > :55:34.the coverage for tomorrow. If you are up and early, you will be

:55:35. > :55:51.rewarded. There is extended highlights on the

:55:52. > :56:01.red button following us straightaway. Apologies, Chemmy

:56:02. > :56:06.Alcott's for run was not shown. I don't think it is there on the host

:56:07. > :56:15.coverage but is and snowboarding is there. Arsenal played Manchester

:56:16. > :56:35.United and the standout fixture has been hit by the weather.

:56:36. > :56:45.Snowboarders, renowned for looking cool at all times. This was great

:56:46. > :56:55.but not as good as these. They were not as good as this. Showcasing

:56:56. > :57:03.local -- showcasing culture backfires. And finally, we love the

:57:04. > :57:10.celebrations from the women's downhill. Great stuff.

:57:11. > :57:18.That is all we have got time for this evening. Extended highlights on

:57:19. > :57:20.the red button. Join us first thing tomorrow morning for all of the

:57:21. > :57:42.latest. Slopestyle is the way to go. You

:57:43. > :57:47.have to express the best that you can do. Everyone gets along,

:57:48. > :57:53.everyone is good mates as well as being competitive. You have to be

:57:54. > :57:58.competitive to get there. Being creative is massive. Everyone has

:57:59. > :58:04.the same course, the same features to use. It is the same drawing board

:58:05. > :58:13.and there is no rules, no 1's saying you can or can't do this or that. It

:58:14. > :58:24.is about individuality. -- no one. Everyone is nervous. It is how you

:58:25. > :58:29.deal with it. Everyone is going to be throwing down the best of the

:58:30. > :58:47.best. It is definitely going to be a good show. Your way of getting down

:58:48. > :58:51.the slope. We are basically showing off to the best of our ability.
