0:00:40 > 0:00:52# It's oh so quiet... # It's oh so still...

0:00:52 > 0:00:56# It's oh so still... Flick you're all alone...

0:00:56 > 0:01:04# And so peaceful until # You fall in love

0:01:04 > 0:01:14# This guy up above # Is caving in.

0:01:14 > 0:01:19#

0:01:26 > 0:01:34Doesn't that just set the mood? We will be rocking and rolling between

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Carling and two man bobsleigh, joining the Nicola Minichiello and

0:01:38 > 0:01:45Rhona Martin, while you are away, you watched Lizzy Yarnold, what did

0:01:45 > 0:01:52you make of that?Fantastic, her mental attitude, she was not in

0:01:52 > 0:01:56first place going into that run but knew she could do it, did not matter

0:01:56 > 0:02:00what anyone else could do. She focused on what she could do and did

0:02:00 > 0:02:09it.And the great to live under pressure.Yeah.With the gold medal

0:02:09 > 0:02:12from Lizzy Yarnold and three bronze medals across the board Great

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Britain are already level with the total medals achieved in Sochi,

0:02:16 > 0:02:21could there be more to come? It might come from curling or

0:02:21 > 0:02:28bobsleigh, here is what is coming up between now and 1pm.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31between now and 1pm. As mentioned, controversy at the curling, we will

0:02:31 > 0:02:35catch up with the latest ahead of the British women in their must win

0:02:35 > 0:02:42match against Switzerland, and CD conclusion of the two man bobsled,

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Great Britain currently seventh. Rowan Cheshire has been through the

0:02:46 > 0:02:52mill since Sochi four years ago and has qualified for the final and

0:02:52 > 0:02:56Aimee Fuller trying to book her place in the final of the women's

0:02:56 > 0:03:01snowboard big air. And we will look at a dramatic short programme in ice

0:03:01 > 0:03:06dancing, Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes in action for Great Britain,

0:03:06 > 0:03:10Jayne Torvill will join us for that.

0:03:25 > 0:03:34Jayne Torvill will join us at 1030. It's all happening in ice dancing.

0:03:34 > 0:03:38Live and an corrupted coverage of the women's curling will start just

0:03:38 > 0:03:43after 11 on the red button, we will dip in and out of it but we want to

0:03:43 > 0:03:47show you the third run of the two man bobsled to see if GB can improve

0:03:47 > 0:03:53on seventh place. The first curling medal of the games was awarded to

0:03:53 > 0:03:59the Olympic athletes of Russia but Alexander Krushelnitskiy has tested

0:03:59 > 0:04:03positive for meldonium and returned home. He and his wife Anastasia

0:04:03 > 0:04:08Bryzgalova took the bronze medal in the mixed doubles. Meldonium is what

0:04:08 > 0:04:14Maria Sharapova tested positive for, it increases blood flow and improves

0:04:14 > 0:04:19exercise capacity. The B sample will be coming today. It's pretty rare in

0:04:19 > 0:04:24curling to even think of taking performance enhancing drugs.Yeah, I

0:04:24 > 0:04:29do not know what you would take to become a better curler. Maybe he was

0:04:29 > 0:04:35trying to slow down his heart rate? It's a new discipline, they are

0:04:35 > 0:04:44sweeping more, Sobhi heartrate is a lot more high. Who knows?

0:04:44 > 0:04:45lot more high. Who knows? The world curling Federation coming into these

0:04:45 > 0:04:51games with all the issues with Russia and anti-doping, they put a

0:04:51 > 0:04:57lot of money into doing extra doping tests on all Russian curlers to make

0:04:57 > 0:05:01sure they were clean and did a lot of tests over the last week while.

0:05:01 > 0:05:09Every test was clean. He was tested on January, middle of January, and

0:05:09 > 0:05:15was clean. But something has come up in this sample, the B sample will

0:05:15 > 0:05:19confirm it or not. Russia as a country have been banned but the OAR

0:05:19 > 0:05:24is made up of athletes from Russia who have been consistently tested

0:05:24 > 0:05:28and come up clean so they have meant to be the clean ones. Hugely

0:05:28 > 0:05:33embarrassing for Russia if this is confirmed because I think they were

0:05:33 > 0:05:36hoping to march together under the Russian flag at the closing

0:05:36 > 0:05:45ceremony.Was the controversy about meldonium not that it was able to be

0:05:45 > 0:05:51used as a masking agent for something else? You must have been

0:05:51 > 0:05:59tested a lot in bobsled?Yes, it's a power sport, if you can gain more

0:05:59 > 0:06:07power, it is massive. The number of tests this year, so many. Hopefully

0:06:07 > 0:06:15the sport is getting cleaner.Where are you tested?Yeah, fairly often.

0:06:15 > 0:06:19Even though you know you are 100% clean and have not taken anything

0:06:19 > 0:06:27you are always nervous. You just don't know. Did somebody mix up the

0:06:27 > 0:06:35sample?Look at Alan Baxter, the wrong kind of nasal inhaler and he

0:06:35 > 0:06:40is coming up positive something he did not know what was there. You are

0:06:40 > 0:06:43not taking performance enhancing drugs, you're just trying to feel

0:06:43 > 0:06:52better, it was a tragedy.That was when he won your gold medal.Yeah. I

0:06:52 > 0:06:58think this controversially with Russia will be an issue. Russia as a

0:06:58 > 0:07:01country, they allow the clean athletes to compete but this is a

0:07:01 > 0:07:08major setback for them if it proves to be a positive test.It will cast

0:07:08 > 0:07:12doubt on every person competing under the OAR, as if there is not

0:07:12 > 0:07:22already enough, now it will blow peoples minds. It is embarrassing

0:07:22 > 0:07:25for the IOC because they have trusted them and let them compete,

0:07:25 > 0:07:30it is embarrassing for curling and the Winter Olympics. Today the

0:07:30 > 0:07:33second test, the results of the second test will come back. So to

0:07:33 > 0:07:40the actual ice, just over the halfway stage here, it is very

0:07:40 > 0:07:44tense, top four from the round-robin matches will qualify for the

0:07:44 > 0:07:48semifinals, the winners of that go for the gold medal, the losers play

0:07:48 > 0:07:54for the bronze medal. Here is what has happened so far. No medals in

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Pyeongchang will take longer to win than those in curling. So far we

0:07:57 > 0:08:03have had five days with 56 matches which have seen 731 points scored.

0:08:03 > 0:08:09And we are only halfway through the group stage! Those stones move

0:08:09 > 0:08:12slowly. New brooms representing Britain in the men's competition and

0:08:12 > 0:08:17Kyle Smith 's young crew got an early doors of pressure, a

0:08:17 > 0:08:22tie-breaking end against Switzerland. Examination passed. No

0:08:22 > 0:08:27greater test than the next, Canada, curling 's superpower. Too much too

0:08:27 > 0:08:32soon for Team GB perhaps? Japan pushed them to the end of the final

0:08:32 > 0:08:37end, right on cue some perfect curling. Then the storm turned

0:08:37 > 0:08:44again, Britain swept aside by the supreme Swedes. Worse still the

0:08:44 > 0:08:51calamity against Korea. Britain shuffled in to a corner.Look what

0:08:51 > 0:08:57this means to the crowd.Crucial that they beat Italy and an out of

0:08:57 > 0:09:05short skipper make this shot. What might that be worth? Strange going

0:09:05 > 0:09:08on on the women's ice, Canada, curling is a sure thing losing three

0:09:08 > 0:09:16from three. Animation reels. They are recovering now, ominously for

0:09:16 > 0:09:22Team GB, most of the bronze winning band in Sochi back to work on new

0:09:22 > 0:09:31material. They took OAR 14. But then they tried to crack America. Despite

0:09:31 > 0:09:38best efforts it was difficult second album territory. That loaded

0:09:38 > 0:09:41pressure on the next match against China who took it into an extra

0:09:41 > 0:09:48tense extra end.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51tense extra end. Beat Denmark next and looked well set but then they

0:09:51 > 0:09:57slept, against Korea they came up curiously short.That's a big

0:09:57 > 0:10:01disappointment.It made a tough match against Sweden and even more

0:10:01 > 0:10:07tough, they took two in the last saw into the decider, GB's final shot

0:10:07 > 0:10:11all important but the storm stopped by a red light. She had not released

0:10:11 > 0:10:19before the hog line, a curling no ball.I have never seen that before.

0:10:19 > 0:10:24The headlines will be about the hog line but they cannot afford to dwell

0:10:24 > 0:10:32on it, things change faster than you think in curling.

0:10:32 > 0:10:37We had drama here were some spilled coffee.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40We had drama here were some spilled coffee. These are the standings

0:10:40 > 0:10:49before today's matches. Sweden going really well, unbeaten in five. South

0:10:49 > 0:10:56Korea only losing once. China Great Britain and Canada who are having a

0:10:56 > 0:10:59surprising shocker of lost three. It's very tight in the middle. Let's

0:10:59 > 0:11:05look at the men and remember, Kyle Smith and his team at the first

0:11:05 > 0:11:11Olympic Games and they are forth. Sweden again unbeaten, they are

0:11:11 > 0:11:15dominant between the men and women at the moment. The Canadian men have

0:11:15 > 0:11:23lost twice. Great Britain Japan and Norway losing three so it's really

0:11:23 > 0:11:24tight. Other results will come into play.

0:11:24 > 0:11:30tight. Other results will come into play. What happened?Nothing to do

0:11:30 > 0:11:43with the!Yeah, don't worry.Hog line headlines.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46line headlines. Rhona has brought this with her, it is the rules of

0:11:46 > 0:11:49curling and we need to discuss what is happening with the hog line and

0:11:49 > 0:11:56try to ignore the mess on the floor. You really did spill a lot. It's OK.

0:11:56 > 0:12:03Keep it on a tight shot! Let's talk about Eve

0:12:03 > 0:12:06Keep it on a tight shot! Let's talk about Eve, this was a really

0:12:06 > 0:12:12important stone against Sweden, her final stone. The red light comes on,

0:12:12 > 0:12:16the technology in the Stone signifying she's gone over the hog

0:12:16 > 0:12:24line but she is saying it's wrong, what do you think? You can see here

0:12:24 > 0:12:29is she clearly releases the stone before the hog line that as her

0:12:29 > 0:12:33fingers touched the back of the handle its triggered the red light

0:12:33 > 0:12:33because,

0:12:33 > 0:12:35handle its triggered the red light because, you are allowed to double

0:12:35 > 0:12:40touch the handle. She releases it there and as you can see, just her

0:12:40 > 0:12:50finger touched as the storm went over the line.No one, the sweepers,

0:12:50 > 0:12:54the skip, no one is allowed to touch it once it's gone over the hog line?

0:12:54 > 0:12:59No. As soon as it over you cannot touch it.The beginning of the

0:12:59 > 0:13:01storm, not the whole story?

0:13:01 > 0:13:03touch it.The beginning of the storm, not the whole story? There is

0:13:03 > 0:13:09a centre in the stone and a centre any hog line, and they are both the

0:13:09 > 0:13:15same, when a player goes to clean the stone at the start as long as it

0:13:15 > 0:13:20turns 75 degrees that activates the sensor in the stone so the green

0:13:20 > 0:13:24lights flash. If those green lights don't flash and the red than a

0:13:24 > 0:13:31player knows the stone is faulty. And batteries don't run down? They

0:13:31 > 0:13:35can do, but it flashed green before she played it or else she would have

0:13:35 > 0:13:39stopped and they tested it afterwards saw the sensor in the

0:13:39 > 0:13:43stone and the hog line was fine, it's just one of these unfortunate

0:13:43 > 0:13:48things. You are allowed to double touch the handle but not after the

0:13:48 > 0:13:53hog line. It's really unfortunate, it's one of these things that Eve

0:13:53 > 0:13:59will never do again. She said she had never done it before. In all my

0:13:59 > 0:14:02years I have never seen a faulty sensor, any lights coming

0:14:02 > 0:14:04years I have never seen a faulty sensor, any lights coming on have

0:14:04 > 0:14:08been a hog line violation. I've not seen issues in all my years of

0:14:08 > 0:14:15curling. This is what she put on social media. It's a great shame.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18But they have to regroup. They have to move

0:14:18 > 0:14:20But they have to regroup. They have to move on. They still have a chance

0:14:20 > 0:14:25of making it through. How do crucial is this morning and what would you

0:14:25 > 0:14:30regard as ideal preparation and an ideal start to this game against

0:14:30 > 0:14:35Switzerland?The last game against Sweden it was an unfortunate ending

0:14:35 > 0:14:38but Sweden had the last stones or Britain could have lost it anyway

0:14:38 > 0:14:45and Sweden are top of the board. This game against Switzerland,

0:14:45 > 0:14:47Switzerland are struggling in this championship. The British girls just

0:14:47 > 0:14:52need to do exactly what they have been doing in every other game, go

0:14:52 > 0:14:55and play well, they have been playing consistently well. They just

0:14:55 > 0:15:00need to go and prove they are the better team.Sometimes when things

0:15:00 > 0:15:06go against you and you feel a bit, I think Chloe Kim described herself as

0:15:06 > 0:15:10hungry and angry but when you feel like the world is against you it can

0:15:10 > 0:15:14fire you up?That is the biggest thing, adrenaline can help elevate

0:15:14 > 0:15:20us and help us be more focused and sharp, lift cars of babies and those

0:15:20 > 0:15:25kind of things. When you have that adversity you will get adrenaline on

0:15:25 > 0:15:29and that can help us go to the next level. You see it time and again.

0:15:29 > 0:15:36This could be the making of it.What do you think? Look at your face!I

0:15:36 > 0:15:39thoroughly believe they will beat Switzerland. They still have Japan

0:15:39 > 0:15:43and Canada quite far of the leaderboard as well. It's all still

0:15:43 > 0:15:48to play for. It is in Britain's hands, they know what they need to

0:15:48 > 0:15:53do, they do not need to rely on anyone, they just need to win. That

0:15:53 > 0:15:58game will start on the red button and we will be joining it on BBC

0:15:58 > 0:16:02One. You will give us a chance to mop this up because the Great

0:16:02 > 0:16:06Britain men have been in action against Denmark, this is what I woke

0:16:06 > 0:16:10up to this morning, watching this game, really good finish, we will

0:16:10 > 0:16:14join it in the tenth end, commentary coming from Logan Gray and Steve

0:16:14 > 0:16:15Cram.

0:16:35 > 0:16:45COMMENTATOR: They have swept it for the nose. The boys know that there

0:16:45 > 0:16:48could be a double after this one, but it is an extremely difficult

0:16:48 > 0:17:04shot.Kyle Smith has two stones left, Rasmus Stjerne just the one.

0:17:04 > 0:17:10He knows this one, can push it out, and sitting on top where that yellow

0:17:10 > 0:17:15currently is, there is a big gap across to the other side of the

0:17:15 > 0:17:18house between those two British stones. He will undoubtedly try to

0:17:18 > 0:17:27take both of them, 97% accuracy for Kyle Smith. If they are feeling

0:17:27 > 0:17:30particularly brave, they could try to roll away from the red stone, but

0:17:30 > 0:17:34they must keep this in the house.

0:17:38 > 0:17:48Just got a little inch roll the other way. And how does he luck,

0:17:48 > 0:17:55Rasmus? Surely he has just got to hit and hope for a mistake here? The

0:17:55 > 0:18:00other option is they could draw around that one played by Kyle.

0:18:00 > 0:18:05Rasmus having a good look at whether it is even possible. He could give

0:18:05 > 0:18:19it a fair lash, Rasmus. They would lie second shot, assuming he gets it

0:18:19 > 0:18:26in the right place, doesn't go too long. He is looking at whether we

0:18:26 > 0:18:37can raise that red back into it. If he hides it, it is not so easy for

0:18:37 > 0:18:44Kyle Smith to take it out himself. But he only needs to nick it and

0:18:44 > 0:18:48take it out, because we have two stones in. He has got to do two

0:18:48 > 0:18:56things, hide behind that red ... What is he doing? He is going for

0:18:56 > 0:19:00the takeout. Scrap all that I was saying! This is going to be flying

0:19:00 > 0:19:06down the ice.If he doesn't get this right, it will be a chance the Great

0:19:06 > 0:19:11Britain to get the two. It would be an incredible shot if he makes it,

0:19:11 > 0:19:19it is going to slide by. It was a great try, Rasmus Stjerne came

0:19:19 > 0:19:25within a couple of inches of making that. That was an incredible try.

0:19:25 > 0:19:30What an attempt from the Danish skip.Unbelievable effort, and they

0:19:30 > 0:19:36over swept it in the end. Maybe just one more millimetre, and maybe it

0:19:36 > 0:19:43could have pushed it out of the side door. I don't know if we will get

0:19:43 > 0:19:47another chance to see that, the speed he hits it, it almost rebound

0:19:47 > 0:19:51is up over. On the turn it has, enough of a turn to go past the red

0:19:51 > 0:19:54stone in such a way that Great Britain now just need to draw into

0:19:54 > 0:19:59the house to win this match against Denmark. This will be a huge win for

0:19:59 > 0:20:04Kyle Smith and his team. A straightforward shot. His nerves

0:20:04 > 0:20:08will be jangling no doubt, but he has played really well in these last

0:20:08 > 0:20:13three or four ends to manufacture this opportunity, and if they win

0:20:13 > 0:20:15this, which looks as though they are going to do, they will be sitting in

0:20:15 > 0:20:19a very good position in terms of qualification, so Kyle Smith

0:20:19 > 0:20:24watching this stone into the house. It is going to be there. Fist pumps

0:20:24 > 0:20:27all around for the guys, and the handshakes to the Danish team. It

0:20:27 > 0:20:31has been a great match, both teams have played really well, but Great

0:20:31 > 0:20:34Britain are getting better and better as this competition goes on.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38They get this one across the line, so important that they made it, they

0:20:38 > 0:20:44beat Denmark 7-6, that is now four wins for Great Britain and three

0:20:44 > 0:20:48losses, and that is a very good position in terms of qualification.

0:20:48 > 0:20:50What a match that was.

0:20:54 > 0:20:58Well done both of you. The reaction at the end probably sums up how you

0:20:58 > 0:21:03feel.It was a little bubble, but we put in a lot of good curling, we

0:21:03 > 0:21:07were two down on the fifth end break, so we did a lot to get back

0:21:07 > 0:21:10into the game, and I'm pleased with how we finished that. You have had a

0:21:10 > 0:21:13lot of close matches now, but it must be a good feeling to be getting

0:21:13 > 0:21:18them over the line.Yes, it is something we practice a lot, and I'm

0:21:18 > 0:21:23happy that the whole hard work is starting to pay off. We have done

0:21:23 > 0:21:26the scenarios hundreds of times on ice, so we are glad we have taken it

0:21:26 > 0:21:31in and can do it on ice.We were listening to Victor at the halfway

0:21:31 > 0:21:35point saying, come on, guys, get your heads up. Was that a feeling

0:21:35 > 0:21:43that you were maybe a little flat at that point.

0:21:43 > 0:21:47that point. He made a couple of good shots under pressure early against

0:21:47 > 0:21:54two or three, and we just didn't convert our twos, so definitely a

0:21:54 > 0:21:57feeling of frustration, but we did quite well and came back in the

0:21:57 > 0:21:59second half of the game with a really strong performance to seal

0:21:59 > 0:22:11the win.So you have to matches to go, in a good position.Yes, we are.

0:22:11 > 0:22:15Can you try and make sure they are not as close, please? We will try!

0:22:15 > 0:22:17We enjoyed.Thank you, guys, well done.

0:22:17 > 0:22:23CLARE BALDING: They have got the bit between their teeth now, and Great

0:22:23 > 0:22:29Britain moving up into joint third place. Canada lost today against the

0:22:29 > 0:22:34USA, so that is helping them as well. Let's have a look at the

0:22:34 > 0:22:38remaining fixtures, because Rhona have a lot of questions for you.

0:22:38 > 0:22:42What happens if there is a joint third situation or joint fourth

0:22:42 > 0:22:43situation?

0:22:48 > 0:22:54Great Britain have no way still to come, the women have Japan and then

0:22:54 > 0:22:58Canada. If it is two of them in third, do they go to a points

0:22:58 > 0:23:03difference to decide who plays? They will do it on ranking, which if they

0:23:03 > 0:23:07are third equal, they have won the same number of games, so it will be

0:23:07 > 0:23:10the drawer shot challenge that they all do that every game, so it goes

0:23:10 > 0:23:22to that. And what is that? They all throw a draw to the house, and it is

0:23:24 > 0:23:28measured, and the person with the advantage gets that end of the game,

0:23:28 > 0:23:32so they are all added up, and the person with the best draw shot

0:23:32 > 0:23:38challenge would be ranked above, so the country with a better draw shot

0:23:38 > 0:23:42will be ranked above the one below. There could be three teams equal.

0:23:42 > 0:23:50Yes.So the one in the draw shot challenge gets the by.And they do

0:23:50 > 0:23:55that at the start of every game? Every game. A who gets the hammer

0:23:55 > 0:23:59for each game, because it is very important to have a hammer, so that

0:23:59 > 0:24:03draw shot challenge is now a skill in itself. We need to see that! We

0:24:03 > 0:24:07need to be joining the curling earlier to see the draw shot

0:24:07 > 0:24:10challenge. And tell me something has been happening with the Stones. For

0:24:10 > 0:24:15a couple of days, the players were not complaining but just stating

0:24:15 > 0:24:20that the Stones weren't curling as much, so the ice men and technicians

0:24:20 > 0:24:24have been playing about with sandpaper and grinding them a bit,

0:24:24 > 0:24:32to give more curl, and you can see in the men's game today, that caught

0:24:32 > 0:24:39them out a little bit.So they were running to smooth?The curlers want

0:24:39 > 0:24:43a good curl, they want lots of stones in play, and various

0:24:43 > 0:24:45controversy as well, should they mess about with stones halfway

0:24:45 > 0:24:50through a competition? Because all the teams have had practice on every

0:24:50 > 0:24:53sheet with every stone, so now if they change the stones halfway

0:24:53 > 0:25:01through, but they were saying it is better to have swinging stones so

0:25:01 > 0:25:05all the players do want that adage is the same for everybody, so there

0:25:05 > 0:25:07has been a wee bit of sanding going on on the stones. It is all

0:25:07 > 0:25:14happening! And to take your own stones would be too much in baggage?

0:25:14 > 0:25:19Excess baggage would be a bit expensive!Do all the stones until

0:25:19 > 0:25:24they are played about with, do they run the same? Or they also to

0:25:24 > 0:25:28different?There will be very slight differences in each stone, severing

0:25:28 > 0:25:32at the fifth player gets to practice, and they will test the

0:25:32 > 0:25:39stones, so they will match them so that each player will try to have...

0:25:39 > 0:25:43They might give the skipper number one and number eight because they

0:25:43 > 0:25:45might match as a pair, but there isn't a lot of difference.Given

0:25:45 > 0:25:49that we are going to get heavily into curling over the next few days,

0:25:49 > 0:25:57if we are not already, I think we had better have an Ask Rhona, don't

0:25:57 > 0:26:03you? And here is a curling stone. Be careful on the table, they are

0:26:03 > 0:26:19really heavy.How much does that we? 44lb.It is really heavy!We have

0:26:19 > 0:26:24put some safety things under the bottom, but you can see there, can I

0:26:24 > 0:26:31just feel that? That is what they are sanding? This bit here is the

0:26:31 > 0:26:40bit that is running on the ice. So that's what will be ground.OK, so

0:26:40 > 0:26:45they are just sanding this area here?Yes. And that makes them curl

0:26:45 > 0:26:52more.To be clear, the white spots are obviously not on it.That is

0:26:52 > 0:26:55just the studio purposes so we can't throw them up and down the studio.

0:26:55 > 0:27:02Indeed, because Chemmy has gone back to South Korea, but she would have

0:27:02 > 0:27:08tried that! Look at you, butter wouldn't melt! Let's bring in

0:27:08 > 0:27:13Nicky's expertise, you can ask questions about bobsleigh. Brad Hall

0:27:13 > 0:27:22is piloting the men's GB two-man bob alongside Joel. Let's catch up on

0:27:22 > 0:27:33how they got on and who the leading contenders are.

0:27:37 > 0:27:42We are under way, the men's two-man bob. Brad Hall and Joel Fearon, a

0:27:42 > 0:27:48lovely clean run one would be terrific. This is a good run from

0:27:48 > 0:27:57Brad. That won't cost them too much time. This is a really good run from

0:27:57 > 0:28:03Brad Hall. What a lovely start, and Great Britain are off and running

0:28:03 > 0:28:09with a very decent time, 49.30 seven.

0:28:12 > 0:28:18Brad Hall going for Great Britain.

0:28:18 > 0:28:24This is what he did on the first run, but hopefully he can start

0:28:24 > 0:28:27pulling back towards the Austrians, and we can see the British leg stay

0:28:27 > 0:28:31where it is, and get the number one spot as it comes up the hill.Let's

0:28:31 > 0:28:37see if that turns green as they go home. It does, just! They are

0:28:37 > 0:28:46definitely going to end the first day not worse than seventh place.

0:28:46 > 0:28:53Janice

0:28:53 > 0:28:58-- Johannes Lochner, this is the run he needs to put the pressure on the

0:28:58 > 0:29:09medals.Is he going to extend away from Brad Hall now? He goes straight

0:29:09 > 0:29:19to the lead. And obviously they start this run to, let's see if they

0:29:19 > 0:29:27can improve. He is really putting in a run, he is not worrying about his

0:29:27 > 0:29:32team-mate. And he has crashed on the corner, but that won't affect his

0:29:32 > 0:29:38time. You can see he's got his head down because he is trying to get the

0:29:38 > 0:29:45best aerodynamic profile as possible.

0:29:45 > 0:29:50possible.And Justin Kripps can afford to go a tenth slower than his

0:29:50 > 0:29:55first run and still hold the lead. This will be right down to the wire

0:29:55 > 0:30:02as they come in. Just losing speed. Are we going to have a slight change

0:30:02 > 0:30:10to the order here? Walter stays in front by a tenth, and Justin Kripps

0:30:10 > 0:30:16lost a little there. The distance between himself and the others in

0:30:16 > 0:30:22the race for gold. He might even drop behind to third or fourth place

0:30:22 > 0:30:32here. This could be a big mistake. So we see Walther make a mistake,

0:30:32 > 0:30:38the Latvian has made a mistake, and is only fourth.

0:30:38 > 0:30:46How were the lines? Two nice, solid, good heats, and into tomorrow.I am

0:30:46 > 0:30:50so proud of Brad, he has overcome a lot of things in a short time, and

0:30:50 > 0:30:54he is here and competitive. I wanted him to smile, and so far he is still

0:30:54 > 0:30:57smiling! So I am over the moon for him.

0:31:02 > 0:31:10I love that interview because it shows the brake does so much more.

0:31:10 > 0:31:18He is there as support. What do you make of the leaderboard and how much

0:31:18 > 0:31:26it changed and how it may again? Everything is changing around the

0:31:26 > 0:31:29second curve, the velocity is knocking people by up to ten

0:31:29 > 0:31:33commenters per hour if you get the right line. These are not the

0:31:33 > 0:31:36medallists so far. Nico

0:31:36 > 0:31:37right line. These are not the medallists so far. Nico Walther has

0:31:37 > 0:31:44been great throughout the season. What for?I think it was his weight,

0:31:44 > 0:31:50and another was runners.A week violation? Because there are limits?

0:31:50 > 0:31:57Yes, because I think he may be had a bit too much dinner. Justin Kripps

0:31:57 > 0:32:06was always going to be a challenge. The Germans are strong, they have

0:32:06 > 0:32:10worked through their equipment. But this track is throwing out the form

0:32:10 > 0:32:16book. Brad in seventh is a fantastic day, so consistent, nailing the

0:32:16 > 0:32:18second curve which is the key

0:32:18 > 0:32:19day, so consistent, nailing the second curve which is the key to the

0:32:19 > 0:32:23track.A fast start is not always essential because you might come

0:32:23 > 0:32:30into curve two too fast? It's about how much velocity you can take to

0:32:30 > 0:32:36the top corners. Curve two is very open in the beginning. It's almost

0:32:36 > 0:32:39like two corners in one which is designed to throw you into the wall

0:32:39 > 0:32:44and knock off your speed before a flat section. So the more experience

0:32:44 > 0:32:50you have on the track the better you will be an Britain missed the final

0:32:50 > 0:32:54training. But every run Brad is getting more and more solid and

0:32:54 > 0:32:59consistent. When a pilot makes the run look good it looks easy and

0:32:59 > 0:33:03effortless. Here the slide is flowing and he is building more and

0:33:03 > 0:33:09more speed. They did not start fastest but every single split they

0:33:09 > 0:33:17got faster and faster. What do you make of it Rhona? It is incredible.

0:33:17 > 0:33:20When Britain have lost so many training runs that must have a huge

0:33:20 > 0:33:26impact on the ability to read the track?Absolutely but Brad is a

0:33:26 > 0:33:30talented pilot with fantastic feeling, he has been driving better

0:33:30 > 0:33:35in four man but he is dialling it in. They say it takes about eight

0:33:35 > 0:33:40years to be a world-class pilot and he has only been driving I think it

0:33:40 > 0:33:45is four years maximum. He's just starting to come into his own. This

0:33:45 > 0:33:52Olympics was always an opportunity with him going as favourite in

0:33:52 > 0:33:53Beijing, the next one.

0:33:53 > 0:33:54with him going as favourite in Beijing, the next one. But he could

0:33:54 > 0:33:59set some records here. And they have got much better equipment in the

0:33:59 > 0:34:05four man, I don't know why. John Jackson a world-class pilot himself

0:34:05 > 0:34:12and bronze medallist in waiting from Sochi, still nice and cold?It

0:34:12 > 0:34:15actually feeling quite tropical today, it's short of three degrees

0:34:15 > 0:34:20so it is warmer than the low teens we've been used to.What did you

0:34:20 > 0:34:23make of the first couple of runs and what would you want to see from

0:34:23 > 0:34:30Great Britain today?More of the same. They are in a real battle, the

0:34:30 > 0:34:36sled behind them are only a hundreds, the Koreans are on the

0:34:36 > 0:34:42100th, any little twitch and they could move forward or back. I want

0:34:42 > 0:34:46to see Brad go out and enjoy it and slide well and take the momentum

0:34:46 > 0:34:51into the four man.Something Joel Fearon said, that he wanted to see a

0:34:51 > 0:34:58smile back on the face of Brad Hall, what was that about? He had a big

0:34:58 > 0:35:02crash last season and sliced the back of his hand and it tore through

0:35:02 > 0:35:07a lot of his attendance as he hit his hand -- tore through a lot of

0:35:07 > 0:35:12his tendons. He missed a lot of the season, a lot of driving time and he

0:35:12 > 0:35:15could not push for some time and put pressure in the hand so it's good to

0:35:15 > 0:35:25see him back and doing business. The four man is the target, right?

0:35:25 > 0:35:30Definitely, the four man equipment is world-class. I have been in the

0:35:30 > 0:35:37sled that Brad will be in, the other one is world-class, we know it

0:35:37 > 0:35:43works. The British two man equipment is not the best but Brad is making

0:35:43 > 0:35:50it work and if they can do it in the two man, hold on for the four man.

0:35:50 > 0:35:58Is there a pecking order, which is Crewe one and which is crew to?

0:35:58 > 0:36:00Crewe one and which is crew to?By the time they get into the training

0:36:00 > 0:36:05runs the coaches will have to make a decision, who is better in training

0:36:05 > 0:36:09regardless of ranked highest coming into the competition, who is better

0:36:09 > 0:36:13in training, who will get the result at the end of the day, they should

0:36:13 > 0:36:18be given the better equipment but that is for the selectors to decide.

0:36:18 > 0:36:23And the four man starts on Saturday, one of the last medals to be

0:36:23 > 0:36:27decided, we will catch up on Jamaica so I will come back to you in a

0:36:27 > 0:36:33moment. But the women only have the two, there is a British team in it

0:36:33 > 0:36:43but not funded by British bobsleigh, am I right? It all changed. Last

0:36:45 > 0:36:49summer GB went through a torrid time with funding, underspend and

0:36:49 > 0:36:53overspend. I am sure a lot of it we still don't even know but the long

0:36:53 > 0:36:59and short of it is they were told they would not be funded. They would

0:36:59 > 0:37:02fund the men's programme because they had the best chance of medals

0:37:02 > 0:37:07but they would not fund a women's programme. Four weeks out until the

0:37:07 > 0:37:13season they had to try to raise all the funds to go and try to qualify.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16She had qualified technically but had to compete throughout the season

0:37:16 > 0:37:21and she did it. That is proud funding. They did it, backed by the

0:37:21 > 0:37:26people and she has had an amazing season. Her results have been up

0:37:26 > 0:37:31there, compatible if not sometimes better than the men.And we find out

0:37:31 > 0:37:35how they are going in training but let's meet them and find out more

0:37:35 > 0:37:40about Misha McNeill and Mica Moore, the team powered by the people.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48All of the hard years you have worked thinking this is an Olympic

0:37:48 > 0:37:52year we want to go in the best shape possible and then it gets stopped.

0:37:52 > 0:37:58It was heartbreaking.

0:37:59 > 0:38:01It was heartbreaking.BBC Sport understands that British bobsleigh

0:38:01 > 0:38:04are set to withdraw funding from the women's team just five months before

0:38:04 > 0:38:12the Winter Olympics. Mica McNeill says she is gutted and shocked to

0:38:12 > 0:38:18see there is no money to fund the team because of an overspend. It was

0:38:18 > 0:38:27my career very low, as low as you can get. You are crushed and you

0:38:27 > 0:38:34don't know if you can turn around from it. Athletes don't just give

0:38:34 > 0:38:39up, we have to be positive and put our all into things. I thought that

0:38:39 > 0:38:44has to be something we can do so we had to try.

0:38:49 > 0:38:55Obviously learning we were not going to get funding for the winter was

0:38:55 > 0:38:59very difficult but I think we instantly came together with a plan

0:38:59 > 0:39:03that we could move forward swiftly with because the season was coming

0:39:03 > 0:39:08around very quickly and I think we did that very well.

0:39:15 > 0:39:19I did not know what it was going to work honestly. I thought we might

0:39:19 > 0:39:23get a terrible response, we might get criticism for setting it up but

0:39:23 > 0:39:30set it up and it just kind of started rolling. I think it was the

0:39:30 > 0:39:36sixth day we hit 28 grams and I was so emotional -- 20 8000. I was

0:39:36 > 0:39:41shopping with my mum and I just started crying because it was so

0:39:41 > 0:39:46overwhelming.

0:39:48 > 0:39:52overwhelming. It's such a small sport, you don't think people are

0:39:52 > 0:39:57watching or are looking out for your results.Learning that people were

0:39:57 > 0:40:02willing to support us and help us on our journey was amazing. We want to

0:40:02 > 0:40:07say thank you for all your contributions, we are so grateful.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10We have had a good few days back on the ice and are so excited for the

0:40:10 > 0:40:17rest of our season. Some people would have put money in not known

0:40:17 > 0:40:26how much it does mean to our team. At any major championships anything

0:40:26 > 0:40:31can happen and it to ever perform is on the day I think the two of us,

0:40:31 > 0:40:35what we have been working towards is getting that consistency and making

0:40:35 > 0:40:41sure we can perform on the day.The Olympics are every athletes dream.

0:40:41 > 0:40:48That's the highest level you can compete at and it would just mean,

0:40:48 > 0:40:52to get there, it's so special and to be competing for a medal is

0:40:52 > 0:40:57absolutely incredible.

0:40:57 > 0:41:02They have been through so much just to get there. Who paid for the

0:41:02 > 0:41:14bobsled? Who owns it?Mica owns it herself. She has kept focused and

0:41:14 > 0:41:17improved, a lot of athletes would have given up a long time ago and a

0:41:17 > 0:41:20massive credit to her and the team around her around her and her family

0:41:20 > 0:41:25and everything that she is still there and still performing. What

0:41:25 > 0:41:29happens with the support team out there, the representatives of

0:41:29 > 0:41:35British bobsleigh at the Olympics? It is the same staff, the staff

0:41:35 > 0:41:38technically employed by the programme are still looking after

0:41:38 > 0:41:42them, they still get support when they are out there, it was the

0:41:42 > 0:41:48funding to travel, to fly the slide to America will be £7,000, it is

0:41:48 > 0:41:53expensive. It's all of those costs which were not going to be funded.

0:41:53 > 0:41:58This is going to be a story one way or the other but it could end up as

0:41:58 > 0:42:03one of the great successes because if we go back, can you tell us the

0:42:03 > 0:42:12latest from training, how are they getting on?They were, I think, two

0:42:12 > 0:42:18top five finishes yesterday, second and third today. It shows that, Mica

0:42:18 > 0:42:24or misled the track at the start of the Olympics so she's not had many

0:42:24 > 0:42:29runs but she has gelled with the track. I think they are working

0:42:29 > 0:42:34quite hard at the top and some of the stronger nations, the Americans,

0:42:34 > 0:42:38Canadians and Germans are holding back a little bit. But for the

0:42:38 > 0:42:41British team it shows if they get a decent start and improve the start

0:42:41 > 0:42:45in the years to come they can mix it with the best in the world because

0:42:45 > 0:42:50she's beating some of the best pilots. So they can prove they are

0:42:50 > 0:42:55not worth only their spot at this Olympics but future investment, this

0:42:55 > 0:43:02is huge for them?Yes and what a story it would be if they got the

0:43:02 > 0:43:06top five result that British bobsleigh need to keep their UK

0:43:06 > 0:43:11Sport funding, had a meeting that be? I funded myself to my first

0:43:11 > 0:43:14Olympics and its miserable, going through the heartache and trying to

0:43:14 > 0:43:21sponsorship. For Mica and Mica to potentially be looking at a top six,

0:43:21 > 0:43:28top five, top eight result is fantastic. We look forward to seeing

0:43:28 > 0:43:33them, 1150 tomorrow the first run on this programme. Give us the story of

0:43:33 > 0:43:42the Jamaican women? They had a bit of a falling out between the staff,

0:43:42 > 0:43:45including the coach and backroom staff which ended up in the court

0:43:45 > 0:43:49should feeling she could no longer work and the environment and

0:43:49 > 0:43:55resigning horror edition.

0:43:55 > 0:43:57resigning horror edition. -- resigning her position. A beer

0:43:57 > 0:44:04company bought the sled, they have been sliding, I saw them on the

0:44:04 > 0:44:08first day and one of the things I heard was Jasmine saying she really

0:44:08 > 0:44:12needed to focus on the track. I don't think we have got a coach

0:44:12 > 0:44:15unless they have started working with one of the other nations to try

0:44:15 > 0:44:21and get some assistance. There will be a lot of interest in them, 30

0:44:21 > 0:44:28years after the Jamaican men first competed and the film Cool Runnings,

0:44:28 > 0:44:35I sense another movie plot going on here.It certainly looks that way.

0:44:35 > 0:44:41The Jamaican team, the pilot sled for the US prior so it's not like

0:44:41 > 0:44:46she's brand-new to the circuit itself but there is a lot of drama

0:44:46 > 0:44:51around the team at the moment and the Jamaican always attract a lot of

0:44:51 > 0:44:56attention regardless of its being men or women. Hopefully things can

0:44:56 > 0:44:58settle down and they can get a good performance which is what they

0:44:58 > 0:45:04deserve.Thank you for your time. Back for the third and fourth runs

0:45:04 > 0:45:14of the men's two man Bob coming up. 1115.

0:45:15 > 0:45:19Now, the importance of bobsleigh for the fact that Nigeria can compete.

0:45:19 > 0:45:23They are the first African nation. Jamaica could be represented. It is

0:45:23 > 0:45:29a sport that is reaching out.Let's be real about it. There are three

0:45:29 > 0:45:32elements, the equipment, the drive and the start. Athletically, you

0:45:32 > 0:45:37need to be fast. You need to be powerful. And you don't need to be

0:45:37 > 0:45:43living next door to a bobsleigh track to develop those skills. Yes,

0:45:43 > 0:45:46the driving, but the physical elements of it, you just need to be

0:45:46 > 0:45:51fast and powerful, and you want going to get many faster people than

0:45:51 > 0:45:55Jamaica, so it's not a huge disadvantage as long as they got the

0:45:55 > 0:46:00funding to be able to get there into the winter. But if we look at the

0:46:00 > 0:46:07wider story of it, agenda 2020 is all about gender equality making it

0:46:07 > 0:46:11easier to access the sports, winter sport especially bobsleigh, it is

0:46:11 > 0:46:16expensive. You are talking 150 million euros to build the bobsleigh

0:46:16 > 0:46:23track in Sochi, and that is not sustainable if the gender numbers

0:46:23 > 0:46:29are not where they need to be. Africa has been the missing

0:46:29 > 0:46:32continent in bobsleigh, but now we have four continental grip

0:46:32 > 0:46:35presentations in bobsleigh for the first time ever, so the significance

0:46:35 > 0:46:39of it is massive, it is opening up opportunities the people who perhaps

0:46:39 > 0:46:43didn't think it was for them before, countries who perhaps didn't have

0:46:43 > 0:46:48access before, and this is just the start, the more people who are able

0:46:48 > 0:46:53to do that ground-breaking work, the more people will come. And talking

0:46:53 > 0:46:58about tracks, this one was built in Pyeongchang brand-new, and cost not

0:46:58 > 0:47:03far off what it cost in Sochi, because you can't scrimp and save on

0:47:03 > 0:47:09a sliding track. How many are there around the world?Probably maybe

0:47:09 > 0:47:15ten, 12 tracks around the world. Of which, they are used regularly, but

0:47:15 > 0:47:21we have seen in Italy, the Cortina track was closed, the cheering track

0:47:21 > 0:47:25where the 2006 Olympics was closed, Vancouver had three years of almost

0:47:25 > 0:47:28a blackout where they didn't get used. The more tracks don't get

0:47:28 > 0:47:32used, the more pressure comes from the IOC to get rid of the sliding

0:47:32 > 0:47:35sports out of the Olympics. It is by far the most expensive sport, so we

0:47:35 > 0:47:39need to make sure we have as many people competing as possible and as

0:47:39 > 0:47:45much gender equality as possible. I think it was 79 to 21%, so that

0:47:45 > 0:47:50brings in the dynamic of the four person bobsleigh, and until it is

0:47:50 > 0:47:53more closer to equal numbers, men and women, there will be a

0:47:53 > 0:48:00challenge.Could you technically have a mix. Technically it is the

0:48:00 > 0:48:07four-man bob, but is it for people? Could you have women? There are

0:48:07 > 0:48:15women who are taking part, Kayleigh Humphreys, Alana Myers, it is

0:48:15 > 0:48:18chicken and egg because you can't put on a forewoman competition

0:48:18 > 0:48:24because there aren't enough nations competing, but you can't stop it, so

0:48:24 > 0:48:28they decided that the four person bobsleigh would be gender neutral,

0:48:28 > 0:48:34Segan have mixed teams, a female driver, it doesn't matter. That is

0:48:34 > 0:48:40amazing, but it's also, it's kind of a double edged sword, because if you

0:48:40 > 0:48:46think of a relay, just literally the physiological difference between men

0:48:46 > 0:48:52and women, four men is always going to be faster than four women, so it

0:48:52 > 0:48:55is a challenge. Women are doing the ground-breaking work, but finishing

0:48:55 > 0:49:01last in the races, and it is demoralising. So it is a real tricky

0:49:01 > 0:49:08situation. I do develop into a bit opportunity? -- how do you develop

0:49:08 > 0:49:16it? The women just want to take part. And I think Rhona in curling

0:49:16 > 0:49:21the mixed competition has brought something fresh, hasn't it?It has,

0:49:21 > 0:49:24because that is always the question. How often can men and women play

0:49:24 > 0:49:28against each other? Can they ride against each other? Yes, they can,

0:49:28 > 0:49:33and there is no reason why in a bobsleigh, obviously speed is

0:49:33 > 0:49:36crucial, but would it help in a bobsleigh if you had a lighter

0:49:36 > 0:49:41female in that four and had a mix, would that help with speed? Not

0:49:41 > 0:49:46really, because gravity also plays a big part, so the heavier the crew,

0:49:46 > 0:49:49even forgetting the start of the driving, it will travel downhill and

0:49:49 > 0:49:54pick up speed faster. But I think the start of the Excel oration and

0:49:54 > 0:49:58speed that they can get off, that will also be down, so it is a

0:49:58 > 0:50:03challenge, but until more people do it, it's not going to...How many

0:50:03 > 0:50:07member associations are there in bobsleigh just now?Again, off the

0:50:07 > 0:50:14top of my head, maybe 40, 50.And call all of them enter the Olympics?

0:50:14 > 0:50:20Do they have a richer qualifying standard?There are two development

0:50:20 > 0:50:22circuits, one in North America and one in Europe, and then the World

0:50:22 > 0:50:24Cup which is kind of like the Premier League. So they qualify

0:50:24 > 0:50:31through the development circuits, and the top 20 in women and 30 in

0:50:31 > 0:50:35men would qualify for the Olympics, but they go through a series of

0:50:35 > 0:50:41qualification criteria, so so many get three macro, two and one,

0:50:41 > 0:50:47continental representation and host nation get theirs as well. One area

0:50:47 > 0:50:51the Olympics has been trying to expand and develop is the freestyle

0:50:51 > 0:50:56snowboarding and skiing event, and the skiing halfpipe came in four

0:50:56 > 0:51:00years ago in Sochi. During qualification and training for that

0:51:00 > 0:51:03qualification, Rowan Cheshire had a heavy crash that left with

0:51:03 > 0:51:07concussion, and that brought on all sorts of problems like severe

0:51:07 > 0:51:09anxiety, she went through a whole period where she couldn't get out of

0:51:09 > 0:51:14the house and she has done incredibly well to get herself back

0:51:14 > 0:51:17on skis, competitive enough to be at her second Olympic Games. We will

0:51:17 > 0:51:22have a look at her and all those trying to qualify to reach the top

0:51:22 > 0:51:3112. Murray and Tim pick up the story.

0:51:33 > 0:51:46To the top for Brita Sigourney. They have super pipes throughout the

0:51:46 > 0:51:56nation, which helps them qualify. Very well there, 900, that is the

0:51:56 > 0:52:05first one we have seen. Another straight.

0:52:05 > 0:52:11straight. Coming into her last hit, and a big 720. That is why she is

0:52:11 > 0:52:17the World Cup leader.Number one on the jersey, and what a run that was

0:52:17 > 0:52:27from Brita Sigourney. There you go, Cassie Sharpe now, expecting big

0:52:27 > 0:52:37things from the Canadian here. 25 years of age. A singsong as she

0:52:37 > 0:52:41rides into the halfpipe here.Big straight with the mute grab, nice

0:52:41 > 0:52:49and solid. The first of the 900s, hopefully. Big flare, landing right

0:52:49 > 0:52:58on top of the wall. She wants to speed it up a little bit here.

0:52:58 > 0:53:09Switch 360. Straight air. And a big 900.Solid. So she had 900s on both

0:53:09 > 0:53:16walls, spinning in both directions. Good run from Cassie. Beating the

0:53:16 > 0:53:32Canadian flag. Very clean, 93, there you go. We have a new leader. Silver

0:53:32 > 0:53:40medallist from Sochi, see this first hit here.Straight air, 540. Maybe

0:53:40 > 0:53:55not going as high as she would have hoped.Marie Martinod then.

0:53:55 > 0:53:58hoped.Marie Martinod then.Flare, good run so far, 720 to finish.

0:53:58 > 0:54:05Strong run. I don't think she will trouble the likes of Cassie

0:54:05 > 0:54:06Strong run. I don't think she will trouble the likes of Cassie, but she

0:54:06 > 0:54:18could potentially knock Brita second.Second, good score. So,

0:54:18 > 0:54:23Rowan Cheshire. Her second Olympics, nasty crash in training in Sochi and

0:54:23 > 0:54:28she was unable to compete. Since then she has battled through injury,

0:54:28 > 0:54:32concussion. She is just coming off the back of an ankle injury now and

0:54:32 > 0:54:36is excited to get into this pipe. She is back skiing well, which is

0:54:36 > 0:54:45great to see. Big 540. Huge alley-oop.That is almost her

0:54:45 > 0:55:00signature trick.900, holding on. Straight air there.Come on, Rowan.

0:55:00 > 0:55:06Switch 360. And a nice little straight air to finish.Good run.

0:55:06 > 0:55:14Very good run. Amplitude was good and consistent. Good grabs. Solid

0:55:14 > 0:55:22run from Rowan. I would hope that would be enough.Ninth position,

0:55:22 > 0:55:29there we go. Well done.She almost looks happy!So, ninth position.

0:55:29 > 0:55:36Cassie Sharpe from Canada in top spot from Marie Martinod, Brita

0:55:36 > 0:55:48Sigourney, Annalisa Drew and Maddie Bowman. It is USA three, four, five.

0:55:48 > 0:55:54Next up, she landed a good run on the first one as well, hopefully she

0:55:54 > 0:55:58can put it up a bit and make it into the final. Come on, Molly

0:55:58 > 0:56:07Summerhayes from Sheffield. Big straight air, nice grab. Big

0:56:07 > 0:56:15alley-oop, that was better. Left 540, nice and high. Write 540, that

0:56:15 > 0:56:25was good. She got a grab on that one, that looked like, switch three.

0:56:25 > 0:56:34Coming into the seven, good seven. Last hit. Switch straight air.

0:56:34 > 0:56:36Last hit. Switch straight air.Yes, switch air, normal to the bottom,

0:56:36 > 0:56:43looked like she got blocked off a little bit. She watched her sister

0:56:43 > 0:56:45compete in the Slopestyle, and you have got to say that coming into

0:56:45 > 0:56:54these games, that would have been her aim, really. To make the finals.

0:56:54 > 0:57:0266, up from her first run.It is a nodding

0:57:02 > 0:57:05nodding acknowledgement there, good experience for her.Not quite

0:57:05 > 0:57:08enough, but she has definitely skied very well today.Brita Sigourney

0:57:08 > 0:57:16came out swinging in that first run. Sixth place in Sochi four years ago.

0:57:16 > 0:57:30Second place at X Games aspen couple of weeks ago.Big straight air. Huge

0:57:30 > 0:57:36alley-oop. Carrying her Speedwell for the 900, massive 900.That was

0:57:36 > 0:57:42huge!Straight air, just missing the grab a little bit, left 540 with a

0:57:42 > 0:57:49mute grab. What has she got for us last hit? Right to 720 to finish,

0:57:49 > 0:57:52really good run from Brita

0:57:52 > 0:57:53last hit? Right to 720 to finish, really good run from Brita.Really

0:57:53 > 0:58:00good, solid run.I think that will be better than her first run score.

0:58:00 > 0:58:03Let's see what the judges do with this.

0:58:03 > 0:58:10Exactly the same.She sounds a little bit disappointed with that.

0:58:10 > 0:58:16So, Cassie Sharpe at the top.Doshi cruise, or does she go for it?I

0:58:16 > 0:58:27can't see her being bombed out. -- bumped out. She will send shivers up

0:58:27 > 0:58:35the spine of every athlete here by showing what she can do.Big 900.

0:58:35 > 0:58:41Right side 900, back to we didn't see that the first run. There is the

0:58:41 > 0:58:49flare, write three higher this time. Switch three. A lot cleaner. Big

0:58:49 > 0:58:58straight air, and what has she got to finish? Left ten? Yes.Beautiful.

0:58:58 > 0:59:07I'm not saying that she is ahead of the game, but when Mark Zuckerberg

0:59:07 > 0:59:11invented Facebook, there was a friend request waiting for him from

0:59:11 > 0:59:16Cassie.She is light years ahead of everybody else. She has almost got

0:59:16 > 0:59:23the keys to the safe that contains the gold medals.

0:59:23 > 0:59:33So, a big improvement of 0.40. So, the defending silver medallist from

0:59:33 > 0:59:38Sochi finds herself in the qualifying silver position, second

0:59:38 > 0:59:42place at the moment. It means nothing until the finals, of course.

0:59:42 > 0:59:47But skiing very well, skiing confident, the French girl.Very

0:59:47 > 0:59:52much so. Big straight air, tell grab, left 540, coming in with a lot

0:59:52 > 1:00:03of speed. Right side 540, very clean. Left 900. Right side flare,

1:00:03 > 1:00:11just sitting on her tail is a little bit there. So, Marie Martinod also

1:00:11 > 1:00:15upping her game a little bit there, stretching her legs.Similar to

1:00:15 > 1:00:19Annalisa Drew, she doesn't really have a switch in there. So it might

1:00:19 > 1:00:24be something she could may be polite for the finals.Yes. 33 years of

1:00:24 > 1:00:29age.

1:00:33 > 1:00:40Rowan Cheshire in ninth position. Would be nice to improve your.I

1:00:40 > 1:00:47think she will try. Hitting the right wall first.

1:00:47 > 1:00:59right wall first. Nice 540. Big alley-oop. So smooth. 900. Solid.

1:00:59 > 1:01:04Losing amplitude slightly but holding on. Left seven. What has she

1:01:04 > 1:01:15got for us? Switch three. Straight air. She will be happy with that.

1:01:15 > 1:01:22Managed to add in the right five. Got a glimpse of Cassie sharp

1:01:22 > 1:01:29watching on from the bottom. She's done really well, had a really nasty

1:01:29 > 1:01:36ankle injury but is just about back to full speed. She had a tough

1:01:36 > 1:01:41summer, a lot of rehab, a lot of work getting her back, had a great

1:01:41 > 1:01:46start to the season.

1:01:46 > 1:01:48start to the season. It's not an improvement.I think it was her

1:01:48 > 1:01:53amplitude.

1:01:53 > 1:01:56amplitude.These are the results. Cassie Sharpe light years ahead.

1:01:56 > 1:02:03Marie Martinod.

1:02:05 > 1:02:10Rowan Cheshire qualifying in a very respectable ninth.

1:02:10 > 1:02:11I was

1:02:11 > 1:02:16I was trying to keep composure, he chilled and relaxed mindset. Up

1:02:16 > 1:02:20there with the cameras and everything and the crowd, the nerves

1:02:20 > 1:02:25do get to you a little. It was a bit scrappy but after the first one it

1:02:25 > 1:02:28was a bit more relaxing and I now feel more relaxed going into the

1:02:28 > 1:02:33finals.Can you sum up what it meant to get out there and compete in

1:02:33 > 1:02:39front of this crowd given we know what happened four years ago?It

1:02:39 > 1:02:42means the world, four years ago I could not sure anyone what I could

1:02:42 > 1:02:48do. I have had such a whirlwind four years with injuries, my head and

1:02:48 > 1:02:51ankle and everything so I've not been scheme as much as I would have

1:02:51 > 1:02:58liked. So do come out here, even though it was a bit scrappy I'm so

1:02:58 > 1:03:03proud and so happy to get to finals because that was the goal.

1:03:03 > 1:03:04proud and so happy to get to finals because that was the goal. You could

1:03:04 > 1:03:13see how excited she was. Says she could put down a run and get to the

1:03:13 > 1:03:16final, and amazing to have her parents out there, a big thank you

1:03:16 > 1:03:21to everyone who stayed awake, stay awake tonight again,

1:03:21 > 1:03:23to everyone who stayed awake, stay awake tonight again, 130 you can see

1:03:23 > 1:03:29her. The snowboarders in action, the first time we get to look at big

1:03:29 > 1:03:33air, qualification for the women's competition, in the slopestyle they

1:03:33 > 1:03:38were upset about the weather conditions but it was a lot brighter

1:03:38 > 1:03:42and more still in terms of wind for this one, let's go there with a

1:03:42 > 1:03:48belief.

1:03:48 > 1:03:52Aimee Fuller one of the riders who battled the conditions in

1:03:52 > 1:03:58slopestyle.

1:03:58 > 1:04:01slopestyle. Lest it will be interesting to see which direction

1:04:01 > 1:04:09she drops in. Coming in switch and she has a cab double under Flip.

1:04:09 > 1:04:19She's going for it. Just sat back on the landing. The first double of the

1:04:19 > 1:04:34day goes down. So close. Just got the grab, timely tackle.

1:04:35 > 1:04:45Hello everyone at home, thank you for waking up early.

1:04:51 > 1:05:00Julia Marino, winner of the silver medal at X Games.Cab double under

1:05:00 > 1:05:09Flip. Coming in switch. A little bit more rotation on it now, very

1:05:09 > 1:05:16difficult to tell if that is cab double cork 900 or cab double under

1:05:16 > 1:05:21Flip.

1:05:23 > 1:05:34Flip. 83.7 five.

1:05:34 > 1:05:41Has been dominating this discipline, heartbroken to miss out in

1:05:41 > 1:05:46slopestyle, she redefines what women's slopestyle is ten months

1:05:46 > 1:05:56ago. But look at the result. Gold at X Games two weeks ago.

1:05:59 > 1:06:04X Games two weeks ago. She has won every contest she has entered.

1:06:04 > 1:06:11Switch double under flip. Very tidy. Very big.

1:06:13 > 1:06:23Very big. First go making it look very easy. Anna Gasser all smiles

1:06:23 > 1:06:31today. She moves for and a half points into the lead. Silver medal

1:06:31 > 1:06:36in slopestyle and she did it in some style, the course better off and

1:06:36 > 1:06:42gave her a decent black eye, Laurie Blouin. Sporting a proper shiner on

1:06:42 > 1:06:47her left eye. As is so often the case, you see one person take a

1:06:47 > 1:06:51medal and then the find of confidence, there are more Joe, that

1:06:51 > 1:06:59could be the case with Laurie Blouin here. Cab double under 900, we saw

1:06:59 > 1:07:04that, really nice horizontal rotation mixed with the backflips.

1:07:04 > 1:07:12Much more of a corkscrew to that. . The

1:07:12 > 1:07:20The cab double under. Clean on the landing. Confidence has got her on a

1:07:20 > 1:07:26roll. Very, very impressive. Julia Marino, Anna Gasser and Laurie

1:07:26 > 1:07:32Blouin in the top spots.

1:07:33 > 1:07:39Blouin in the top spots. Aimee Fuller 25th but are going for the

1:07:39 > 1:07:43cab double under flip, if she lands that it will push her to the

1:07:43 > 1:07:49opposite end of the leaderboard. We are going to see that again. The

1:07:49 > 1:07:59regular footer dropping in switch. She went up to camp in Mount who'd.

1:07:59 > 1:08:0816 birthday, gone early. So big on the first hit, tried to rotate a bit

1:08:08 > 1:08:14more slowly on the second. She's opened out. She's not been able, not

1:08:14 > 1:08:18getting the grab has meant she is opened up which has slowed the

1:08:18 > 1:08:22rotation but at the same time she's not got the same amount of speed.

1:08:22 > 1:08:30This appointment for Aimee Fuller. Cheers guys.

1:08:30 > 1:08:39Cheers guys.Julia Marino currently in fourth place.

1:08:40 > 1:08:44Lovely, the cab double under flick, more 900 at that time, more

1:08:44 > 1:08:54horizontal axis. The Americans making their voices heard.

1:08:54 > 1:08:56making their voices heard. Drifting, floating in. Nasty split in her

1:08:56 > 1:09:07pants there. The outfits were not built for snowboarding. Cab double

1:09:07 > 1:09:12under flip. Into fourth place.

1:09:13 > 1:09:21under flip. Into fourth place. Next, the Japanese rider who has taken

1:09:21 > 1:09:282018 by storm with the trip we will hopefully see now, Reira Iwabuchi.

1:09:28 > 1:09:33Currently ninth. It is a gamble if she cannot better the score. I think

1:09:33 > 1:09:41she will be very lucky to hold onto qualification if she cannot better

1:09:41 > 1:09:5280 points. Drops in switch. We are not going to see the big trick she's

1:09:52 > 1:10:02been warming up. Another switch 900. Switch frontside 900. The stale

1:10:02 > 1:10:12fresh grab. Perfect landing. Absolutely stomps it. 92.7 five.

1:10:12 > 1:10:21First place. Wow.

1:10:21 > 1:10:28First place. Wow. Personally? I disagree with that. But the judges

1:10:28 > 1:10:37award the very clean landing. The pop and size of the jump. Next, the

1:10:37 > 1:10:4631-year-old Yuka Fujimori. The second oldest here.

1:10:46 > 1:10:55second oldest here. Winds up lovely. Backside 900. Very, very nice. This

1:10:55 > 1:10:58is brilliant, we are starting to see exactly what the women are capable

1:10:58 > 1:11:10of. Look coast joked Yuka is. -- Woodhouse

1:11:10 > 1:11:17on the strength of scores we've seen, this is going to be a big one.

1:11:17 > 1:11:2394.2 five. It is just qualifying but we are going through the gears very

1:11:23 > 1:11:30nicely. Anna Gasser in the start gate, currently in sixth place. She

1:11:30 > 1:11:37was in second place at the end of run one but way more consistency

1:11:37 > 1:11:41from some of the big guns has seen her drop down. Can she reinstate

1:11:41 > 1:11:49herself at the top of the standings? Switch frontside double Cork ten a

1:11:49 > 1:12:01day, that's the top spot. This is heating up very nicely. -- 1080.

1:12:01 > 1:12:08This is what we missed out on in slopestyle the other day. Anna

1:12:08 > 1:12:16Gasser managing, did she keep the trailing arm of the snow? No, tiny

1:12:16 > 1:12:23touch but on a trek that big and progressive, look at that smile. 98.

1:12:23 > 1:12:30The judges sending it now. I have been looking at those top spots,

1:12:30 > 1:12:42very interesting mix. Currently fifth.

1:12:43 > 1:12:49fifth. She's gone huge. Send it all the way to the bottom. Not as tidy

1:12:49 > 1:12:53as some of the cab double under flip 's we've seen but only because she

1:12:53 > 1:13:00went enormous. What do the judges make of it? Do they want to see it

1:13:00 > 1:13:12clean or do they want to see it big? She moves up one spot. Anna Gasser

1:13:12 > 1:13:21takes the lead and will drop last in the finals. The two Japanese women.

1:13:21 > 1:13:29Aimee Fuller not making it after two valiant attempts.

1:13:29 > 1:13:36Should be a great watch. The final of the women's big air. The medal

1:13:36 > 1:13:40table has not yet changed today because there is nothing going on at

1:13:40 > 1:13:45the moment. No medals decided yet on day ten, things will start again

1:13:45 > 1:13:51around 11 o'clock which is when we will join it, going between curling

1:13:51 > 1:13:57and the bobsleigh. One gold medal so far for Great Britain, three bronze

1:13:57 > 1:13:58hopefully tomorrow we will

1:13:58 > 1:13:59far for Great Britain, three bronze hopefully tomorrow we will see back

1:13:59 > 1:14:03on the ice Britain's biggest ice in short track skating and if she could

1:14:03 > 1:14:13make a comeback it goes to the top of the charts of biggest story.

1:14:18 > 1:14:25COMMENTATOR: They have gone down! And again, turmoil for Elise

1:14:25 > 1:14:33Christie.I can't believe it, she has been penalised again.Elise

1:14:33 > 1:14:36Christie does get the chance to race for gold. The nation holds its

1:14:36 > 1:14:46breath.Christie tries to make it on the inside, and she crashes out, she

1:14:46 > 1:14:48is out of it once again.Elise Christie to get into the elliptic

1:14:48 > 1:14:56final. Christie has crashed again on the final bend. Yet again, she ends

1:14:56 > 1:15:04up in a distraught heap on the floor.

1:15:04 > 1:15:09And my word, she is going to have to get back up if she is to win a medal

1:15:09 > 1:15:13at these Olympics. Her favourite distance, the 1000 metres, the heats

1:15:13 > 1:15:20are tomorrow. Let's get the latest on her condition.

1:15:20 > 1:15:24Yesterday we were told Elise Christie have suffered soft tissue

1:15:24 > 1:15:27damage. Today Team GB say she has been back on the ice in training and

1:15:27 > 1:15:30has made good progress, but that they will wait until tomorrow before

1:15:30 > 1:15:36deciding if she will be in those 1000 metres heats tomorrow evening.

1:15:36 > 1:15:41Wealth, what do you make of it?It has been a very wise decision what

1:15:41 > 1:15:46they have now decided. They have no urgency to make any decision today.

1:15:46 > 1:15:51In terms of the racing, the racing will start tomorrow evening.

1:15:51 > 1:15:54Formerly, you have to withdraw an athlete 20 minutes before the race,

1:15:54 > 1:15:58but if they don't do that, it isn't a crime, you can actually just not

1:15:58 > 1:16:04show up the start line and she will get a did not start. So I think they

1:16:04 > 1:16:07are taking the right decision. The injury is in the ankle area. What

1:16:07 > 1:16:11will the doctors be wanting to be satisfied about before they let her

1:16:11 > 1:16:17take to the start line.Again, making my assumption on this. With

1:16:17 > 1:16:20short track speed skating, the boot is moulded around the ankle, and it

1:16:20 > 1:16:24is a very delicate area because of the pressures you are going through

1:16:24 > 1:16:30when going around the corner. The boot itself, I believe she is having

1:16:30 > 1:16:36problems getting it on because it is such a tight fit, so I assume they

1:16:36 > 1:16:39will be looking at, can she handle the pressure being put onto the

1:16:39 > 1:16:42ankle by the boot, and the pressure being created when she's going

1:16:42 > 1:16:47around the corner at 35, 40 mph? And it seems a sensible choice to wait

1:16:47 > 1:16:51and see what happens tomorrow, see how the ankle from skating today,

1:16:51 > 1:16:55and then go from there. And if she can take to the start line, pressure

1:16:55 > 1:16:59of a different kind, because that will be her last chance here to get

1:16:59 > 1:17:08an Olympic medal.We have seen Dan Jansen compete in 98, 92, even in 94

1:17:08 > 1:17:14when he was the red-hot favourite and it went to his last event, and

1:17:14 > 1:17:18if she can be inspired by this sort of message, and also enjoy this

1:17:18 > 1:17:22event, she will look back 20 years from now and say, I gave it my best

1:17:22 > 1:17:26shot, and that is all she can re-ask of herself. So Elise Christie

1:17:26 > 1:17:28carrying an injury but encouraging news that she has been training

1:17:28 > 1:17:32today. We all hope that she can make the start line of those 1000 metres

1:17:32 > 1:17:39heats tomorrow. And we will know by about 10am

1:17:39 > 1:17:45tomorrow. We have been joined by Jayne Torvill, hello. What is your

1:17:45 > 1:17:49take on Elise Christie and the terrible luck she has had so far?It

1:17:49 > 1:17:55is unbelievable. My feeling is that she will give it a go tomorrow. I

1:17:55 > 1:18:00hope so, anyway.You must've skated with injuries in the past?Yes, and

1:18:00 > 1:18:05at the Olympics you have only got one chance, and just take it. Unless

1:18:05 > 1:18:11it is physically impossible, I think she would regret not having a go.

1:18:11 > 1:18:17And adrenaline can help, can't it. There are times when you don't feel

1:18:17 > 1:18:21pain any more.Yes, like we'll said about getting her foot into the boot

1:18:21 > 1:18:26if it is slightly swollen in any way, that will hurt. But eventually,

1:18:26 > 1:18:29the adrenaline kicks in the pain goes away, and when you take your

1:18:29 > 1:18:36foot out of the boot, that is when it hurts again. She won't be able to

1:18:36 > 1:18:39bandage it up, either, if the boot is that tight. The boot will give

1:18:39 > 1:18:45her the support.Yes, the boot, she showed me she is wearing her old

1:18:45 > 1:18:48favourite boots, so they have been moulded to the shape of her foot,

1:18:48 > 1:18:51and it is at the ankle, and they don't have a lot of padding, you

1:18:51 > 1:18:55know. It is not like they have loads of protection under those suits. So

1:18:55 > 1:19:00it is not surprising that she has got so much bad soft tissue damage.

1:19:00 > 1:19:05Anyway, the reason that Jayne is here is not to talk about short

1:19:05 > 1:19:08track speed skating, but figure skating, and the ice dance has just

1:19:08 > 1:19:14begun. We will be looking of the action from there. Britain has one

1:19:14 > 1:19:19couple in this. Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes, we have been talking

1:19:19 > 1:19:22about tough journeys to the Olympics, and here is another one,

1:19:22 > 1:19:31to be honest.

1:19:31 > 1:19:35to be honest. It is so hard to train for an Olympics when you're healthy.

1:19:35 > 1:19:42You push your body to the absolute limit everyday. There is only so

1:19:42 > 1:19:50much your body can deal with.

1:19:50 > 1:19:53much your body can deal with. In a second, my life changed.

1:19:53 > 1:19:58Figure skater Penny Coomes has softened a career threatening injury

1:19:58 > 1:20:05which could end her hopes of competing at the Winter Olympics.

1:20:05 > 1:20:09Like that, I'm on the floor with half of my kneecap up here. I

1:20:09 > 1:20:16remember crying, not from the pain, but from what it could be. And I've

1:20:16 > 1:20:20had the hardest year and a half of my life, but at the same time, it is

1:20:20 > 1:20:24the strongest I have ever had to be, and it has been a really rewarding

1:20:24 > 1:20:31time.That is a career ending injury for 99.9% of people.Yes.

1:20:31 > 1:20:37Definitely. We just didn't know what the way forward was, I think, once

1:20:37 > 1:20:43it happened. It put everything into perspective little bit, you know? It

1:20:43 > 1:20:46is only ice-skating, but it is something that we have grown up with

1:20:46 > 1:20:49and we absolutely adore, so there was only one thing that we were

1:20:49 > 1:20:56going to do, and that was come back and pick up from where we left off.

1:20:56 > 1:21:02So many people were like, that's it, done, you can't come back from this.

1:21:02 > 1:21:06And I just remember reading those things and being so mad, and I

1:21:06 > 1:21:10channelled that energy. I remember thinking I will come back and use

1:21:10 > 1:21:13that energy, and being out parent thinking that this is for all the

1:21:13 > 1:21:22people who thought I couldn't do this, because I can.

1:21:26 > 1:21:31Not every day was a good day, and I didn't do it on my own. When I was

1:21:31 > 1:21:37down, I had my physio, my psychologist, and then of course

1:21:37 > 1:21:42Nick. For me, at 1.I said to him, I don't know if I could do this, I

1:21:42 > 1:21:47don't know if minute will ever be strong enough again. And he said,

1:21:47 > 1:21:52that's OK. And I think I needed to hear that in order to get that over.

1:21:52 > 1:21:56We are here in Michigan where you have been based now for a few years.

1:21:56 > 1:22:03Why here?Michigan is an ice dance hub. There are three big ice dance

1:22:03 > 1:22:09camps, and the best dance coaches in the world, so we have come here for

1:22:09 > 1:22:12three years, and we train with a lot of our rivals, which spurs us on

1:22:12 > 1:22:15every day in training, which is an interesting dynamic, but we all get

1:22:15 > 1:22:26on really well, so it is cool. What does Pyeongchang represent for you?

1:22:26 > 1:22:33I'm sorry. It's just so emotional, because this has always been my

1:22:33 > 1:22:39goal. When we first set out, it was always like, let's do three Olympic

1:22:39 > 1:22:46Games, and Pyeongchang was always, let's be the best here. And then to

1:22:46 > 1:22:53kind of have that... Taken away. I feel like I've earned it tenfold

1:22:53 > 1:22:58before I've even got there.Going out there after all we've been

1:22:58 > 1:23:02through is just going to be a real fitting end to this period of our

1:23:02 > 1:23:07lives, but the best bit is yet to come.

1:23:07 > 1:23:17They are just so sweet together as well! I really love them, Jayne!

1:23:17 > 1:23:21What a story. In that situation, it is frustrating for the partner who

1:23:21 > 1:23:24is fit and well, and for him to have the patience to deal with that and

1:23:24 > 1:23:29help her along rather than get frustrated, that he must know, he's

1:23:29 > 1:23:33thinking, we should be training now, we should be doing so many hours a

1:23:33 > 1:23:37day, and we can't.And some of them, Jayne, would look around for another

1:23:37 > 1:23:42partner! Some of them would! And with Nick, four years ago we were

1:23:42 > 1:23:45talking about him being the issue because he had this in regular fast

1:23:45 > 1:23:48heartbeat going on and he had to have a pacemaker put in.And that

1:23:48 > 1:23:52was quite a scare for them already, and I guess she was equally patient

1:23:52 > 1:23:56with him through that, so as a team they have done so much together, and

1:23:56 > 1:24:01I'm really hoping that they have a good Olympics. And why are they the

1:24:01 > 1:24:05only British figure skaters Albert Costa I'm not entirely sure, but I'm

1:24:05 > 1:24:08assuming that the other categories didn't qualify, because it changes

1:24:08 > 1:24:13all the time in ice-skating, that you have to finish in a certain

1:24:13 > 1:24:15position at world level or European level to qualify for an Olympics,

1:24:15 > 1:24:21and I guess none of our other disciplines qualified. Now, Tessa

1:24:21 > 1:24:27Virtue Scott Moore, they have been skating together since they were

1:24:27 > 1:24:32seven and nine years old, they have won gold on the board already. Would

1:24:32 > 1:24:39you make some hot favourites for this ice dance?Absolutely, the big

1:24:39 > 1:24:42battle is between them and the French team, the French team of the

1:24:42 > 1:24:45new kids on the block, and for the last three or four years, they have

1:24:45 > 1:24:48really earned their place out there. Let's see how this, Tish and

1:24:48 > 1:24:57developed overnight. Commentary from Olympic gold medallist, Robin

1:24:57 > 1:25:04Cousins, alongside Katherine Downes.

1:25:05 > 1:25:11So, here they are, Great Britain's comeback kids. 20 months ago, Penny

1:25:11 > 1:25:15shattered her kneecap into eight pieces. They missed most of last

1:25:15 > 1:25:19season, she was reconstructed and rehabilitated, it has been a battle

1:25:19 > 1:25:25to qualify for these games and defy the odds. Skating together for the

1:25:25 > 1:25:32third time at an Olympic Games.

1:28:19 > 1:28:23She was told she would never skate again, but Penny Coomes and Nick

1:28:23 > 1:28:28Buckland are back on Olympic ice. But here they are, Robyn, and what

1:28:28 > 1:28:32will it mean to them to be back? Amazing, their first event of the

1:28:32 > 1:28:41season was the qualifying event in Germany, they won that event, got

1:28:41 > 1:28:46Team GB the spot. And that was the last possible chance to qualify for

1:28:46 > 1:28:50the games. They needed to come back and win it, and they did. They've

1:28:50 > 1:29:00done everything asked of them. 68.36, a season's best of 71.39, but

1:29:00 > 1:29:04we have seen the scores from the judges, a couple down from what you

1:29:04 > 1:29:08would expect, and Penny and Nick leapt to the top of the leaderboard

1:29:08 > 1:29:12with that performance. They have the qualification mark against their

1:29:12 > 1:29:23name, and they are through to tomorrow's free skating.

1:29:32 > 1:29:39So, Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani for the USA. And we are

1:29:39 > 1:29:45joined in the commentary box by Nick Buckland. These two on Marmite when

1:29:45 > 1:29:48it comes to ice dance. You either love the fact that they are brother

1:29:48 > 1:29:52and sister and that dynamic it brings, or you find it a little

1:29:52 > 1:29:57uncomfortable to watch. That is something they have had to deal with

1:29:57 > 1:30:02their whole career, they have found themselves dealing with that in the

1:30:02 > 1:30:08last couple of years, but they have had a very good season, and they are

1:30:08 > 1:30:15always super-clean, these guys, they are like machines.

1:30:37 > 1:30:49A little bit of a stumble. We will see if that plays a part.

1:31:42 > 1:31:47Struggling a little bit with speed here. The last part of the programme

1:31:47 > 1:31:52looks a little slow to me, but again, super clean.

1:32:11 > 1:32:17A lot of tempo changes within the music, going up and down depending

1:32:17 > 1:32:24on what they need for the specific element they are doing.

1:32:33 > 1:32:43All the precision you would expect from them. Neat as pins.

1:32:43 > 1:32:46from them. Neat as pins.I think it was a very strong performance, they

1:32:46 > 1:32:51did what they needed to do, they have a Medline step sequence which

1:32:51 > 1:32:54is level format which is very high scoring. But I expect nothing less

1:32:54 > 1:33:01from them.

1:33:01 > 1:33:09We have a new leaders. They have laid down the marker for their

1:33:09 > 1:33:16countrymen. Time to say thank you so much for joining us, best of luck

1:33:16 > 1:33:26tomorrow.Thank you.For the first time we will see the two best teams

1:33:26 > 1:33:31back-to-back. Cat and mouse between these couples in this sport for the

1:33:31 > 1:33:36last couple of seasons, time to find out who will come out on top when it

1:33:36 > 1:33:42comes to the Olympics. In the short dance.Over the next two days we

1:33:42 > 1:33:49will find out who comes out on top because it will be a battle between

1:33:49 > 1:33:53these two, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and the French couple who will

1:33:53 > 1:34:07skate after. Training partners, rivals.

1:34:33 > 1:34:38Terrific control.

1:36:20 > 1:36:30Safely through the twizzle 's.

1:36:33 > 1:36:40Rotational left to finish.

1:36:40 > 1:36:43CHEERING APPLAUSE

1:36:43 > 1:36:48The world champions want that Olympic title. It was only silver in

1:36:48 > 1:36:51Sochi, they took a couple of years away from competition but they were

1:36:51 > 1:36:57still training, still working. Came back last year to win the World

1:36:57 > 1:37:03Championship.Quite a stark contrast between the Canadians and the French

1:37:03 > 1:37:12team but they absolutely exude the style. It has an element of

1:37:12 > 1:37:16spontaneity with the performance itself. It has to be precise and

1:37:16 > 1:37:23clean. The timings throughout.

1:37:23 > 1:37:31Seasons best. In the short dance at the Olympic games. They are out for

1:37:31 > 1:37:37that gold medal. The New World top scorer for short dance.

1:37:37 > 1:37:40Record-breaking, they have put themselves in the best position to

1:37:40 > 1:37:48claim the Olympic title to go with the gold medal they won in 2010.

1:37:48 > 1:37:57Beat that, when it comes on ice dancing you are either team Tessa

1:37:57 > 1:38:03Virtue and Scott Moir, or team Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume

1:38:03 > 1:38:09Cizeron. They missed out on a place in Sochi last out so this their

1:38:09 > 1:38:13first Olympics.

1:39:33 > 1:39:40Oh! Did not want that to happen mid-twizzle.

1:41:02 > 1:41:06Some costly mistakes creeping in, they will have lost ground on their

1:41:06 > 1:41:11training needs and rivals Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.I am

1:41:11 > 1:41:17surprised, they have still been given level format on the twizzle's

1:41:17 > 1:41:23but the pattern dance just sequence level three.

1:41:23 > 1:41:32level three. Slightly off on the step into the second twizzle.

1:41:33 > 1:41:39step into the second twizzle.Second place.

1:41:43 > 1:41:50The French pair go second. Into the free dance tomorrow. Three other

1:41:50 > 1:42:00couples after them. These two beat Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani to

1:42:00 > 1:42:04win the US national championships this year. Skating at their first

1:42:04 > 1:42:09Olympics this year. Looking to come out on top in the Team USA rivalry.

1:42:09 > 1:42:14They were second in the short dance but second in the free dance and

1:42:14 > 1:42:22became national champions overall.

1:43:01 > 1:43:07The leg line is not close to

1:43:07 > 1:43:17matching which is one of the key points.

1:44:59 > 1:45:07APPLAUSE Some mistakes then from Madison and

1:45:07 > 1:45:15Zachary as well. They made the correct terms within the Rumba

1:45:15 > 1:45:19sequence, but one straight leg, one bent leg within the middle of the

1:45:19 > 1:45:31key point was a bit odd for me to see.It is a new season's best for

1:45:31 > 1:45:34them, 77.75, and they are up to third place in this short dance

1:45:34 > 1:45:42programme. So we are all set for an exciting competition tomorrow.

1:45:42 > 1:45:46Confirmation of the qualification standings: Madison Hubbell and

1:45:46 > 1:45:55Zachary Donahue in the bronze medal position phone now.

1:45:55 > 1:46:00position phone now. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who with a new world

1:46:00 > 1:46:04record chasing down a second Olympic title, and looking to come away from

1:46:04 > 1:46:10these games with two more gold medals.

1:46:19 > 1:46:24Gabriela and Guillaume, tell us about your journey so far.

1:46:24 > 1:46:25Gabriela and Guillaume, tell us about your journey so far.It has

1:46:25 > 1:46:30been tough, but we have managed to keep our focus and enjoy the moment.

1:46:30 > 1:46:37It could have been better, for sure, but what is done is done, and we

1:46:37 > 1:46:44have to look forward now.It is always really tight right now

1:46:44 > 1:46:49between yourselves and Tessa

1:46:49 > 1:46:55between yourselves and Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.Yes, we have trained

1:46:55 > 1:47:00together, too, so it is taken into consideration, but we came here and

1:47:00 > 1:47:07we wanted to do our best, and that is what we are going to focus on.

1:47:07 > 1:47:10Tessa and Scott, a fantastic performance.We knew we needed it,

1:47:10 > 1:47:16to be honest, it is not extremely comfortable skating first after the

1:47:16 > 1:47:20warm up, but it is good in a way that we know who is skating after us

1:47:20 > 1:47:25and we had to be strong, so we are ready for that, happy the way we

1:47:25 > 1:47:28executed, but we know there is a tonne of work to be done tomorrow,

1:47:28 > 1:47:32tomorrow is the main skate and we have to make sure we come out ready

1:47:32 > 1:47:36to go.And how important is every single point, given that the French

1:47:36 > 1:47:40couple are so strong. The field is extremely deep and we knew when we

1:47:40 > 1:47:44came back that we would have a lot more to do to get back in the mix,

1:47:44 > 1:47:46so we are pleased with our performance today and looking

1:47:46 > 1:47:50forward to executing the free dance tomorrow. We believe in our material

1:47:50 > 1:47:54and the planned that the coaches set out for us at the beginning of the

1:47:54 > 1:47:59season, and so far we are on track. How happy are you with that?Very

1:47:59 > 1:48:03happy. It is something that we have worked on for a long time to get

1:48:03 > 1:48:06back on the elliptic stage, so to get out there and put out a good

1:48:06 > 1:48:09performance, one more to go but to get a good performance at this stage

1:48:09 > 1:48:13is really great.Penny, everybody knows the journey you have been

1:48:13 > 1:48:16through, both of you. What is it like being back on the Olympic

1:48:16 > 1:48:21stage?It is definitely a different feeling going into competition. I

1:48:21 > 1:48:25have competition pressure, but I'm just excited to get back out again

1:48:25 > 1:48:29and just thankful and so happy to be here. I was just going round when

1:48:29 > 1:48:33they were reading out the other guys' scores, and I smile to my

1:48:33 > 1:48:36soft, because after everything I've been through, I made it, and that is

1:48:36 > 1:48:41the most important thing.Wakame expect tomorrow from the free dance?

1:48:41 > 1:48:43Watching you to enjoy yourselves out there, you have put a lot of work

1:48:43 > 1:48:48into getting here. What are we going to see?Our free dance is set to

1:48:48 > 1:48:55music by Muse, and it is a piece of music we love so much, we decided to

1:48:55 > 1:48:58come back to it because we wanted to perform it one last time or couple

1:48:58 > 1:49:02of last times at the Olympic Games and world, and it is a programme

1:49:02 > 1:49:05that we love, there are some cool elements in there and I can't wait

1:49:05 > 1:49:11to perform at.We can't wait to see you. Well done today, can't wait to

1:49:11 > 1:49:15see you out there again tomorrow. Thank you.Thank you.

1:49:15 > 1:49:20Look at those smiles! Nick and Penny are through to the free dance top

1:49:20 > 1:49:2720, easily through intense. But Jayne Torvill, we have to the

1:49:27 > 1:49:35wardrobe malfunction, because you'd definitely saw that it made a

1:49:35 > 1:49:41difference to the French couple, you could see Gabriella Papadakis, it

1:49:41 > 1:49:47made her feel uncomfortable.Yes, you saw that he must've when he held

1:49:47 > 1:49:52her in the back of the net, he did something that would have held open

1:49:52 > 1:49:54the competition, and that just messes with your head and they did

1:49:54 > 1:49:59amazingly well to continue the way they did.You can see her holding it

1:49:59 > 1:50:03a couple of times. Could they have stopped and restarted almost? You

1:50:03 > 1:50:11are not allowed to stop. Normally you would stop and fix it, but they

1:50:11 > 1:50:16are not allowed to stop and do that, they have to carry on regardless.

1:50:16 > 1:50:23Have you had any issues in the bobsleigh? Yes, the infamous racer's

1:50:23 > 1:50:28split. Let's say sometimes Lycra at -20 doesn't stretch as well as it

1:50:28 > 1:50:34could do, so final World Cup race before the Sochi Games, my break

1:50:34 > 1:50:44woman bent over, just about to start, and she had the racer's

1:50:44 > 1:50:47split, and exposed her rear end to the entire world. We had more hits

1:50:47 > 1:50:50on YouTube in the first 24 hours than we did for winning the World

1:50:50 > 1:50:55Championships in my whole career. Does it ever happening curling,

1:50:55 > 1:51:01Rhona? UI down on one knee. Sometimes if the trousers are too

1:51:01 > 1:51:04tight, we have seen the trousers split if you are sliding out with

1:51:04 > 1:51:11the stone.Has it ever happen to you? No.And it has happened once

1:51:11 > 1:51:15already at the Olympic, so when you are thinking about the design, that

1:51:15 > 1:51:19is a really important part of it. Do you get a chance to test them, and

1:51:19 > 1:51:25how many times?Absolutely. I have noticed recently in competitions

1:51:25 > 1:51:28that people will wear their actual competition in the training session,

1:51:28 > 1:51:32just to wear it again and get used to it. But even if you haven't, you

1:51:32 > 1:51:35would have worn it at home in training. Most people would have to

1:51:35 > 1:51:41go through that. I remember months we will performing as professionals

1:51:41 > 1:51:45in Madison Square Garden, and I had had a slight alteration, I had a

1:51:45 > 1:51:50halterneck dress, we were skating to Fred and Ginger, beautiful feathers,

1:51:50 > 1:51:53everything. And right at the beginning, I do know how it

1:51:53 > 1:52:01happened, but the Hulk was squashed and it came open -- the hook was

1:52:01 > 1:52:04squashed. And I was dancing like this the whole time. We could've

1:52:04 > 1:52:11stopped because it was a professional show.And

1:52:11 > 1:52:16congratulations to our editing team, they managed to show that without

1:52:16 > 1:52:24offending anybody, they pixelated! So, Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue are

1:52:24 > 1:52:28leading, going into the free programme, can that change? Can the

1:52:28 > 1:52:33French couple flip it and get into gold medal position?Absolutely. So

1:52:33 > 1:52:36far this season, they have had the highest score in free dance of all

1:52:36 > 1:52:48the teams, and I think Scott and Tessa have only achieved a so that

1:52:48 > 1:52:53could be the difference, but let's hope it doesn't knock the French's

1:52:53 > 1:52:55confidence.And Tessa Virtue were saying after the short programme

1:52:55 > 1:52:59that they had a plan and they were executing it. What did you make of

1:52:59 > 1:53:06their short programme?I enjoyed it. Sometimes I feel that some of their

1:53:06 > 1:53:09movements... The quality is brilliant, but sometimes I feel

1:53:09 > 1:53:13their movements are a bit forced, where I feel the French are more

1:53:13 > 1:53:18natural and organic. But it is so close, because the standard is so

1:53:18 > 1:53:33high, so it could beanybody's. What are the rules? For costumes? In

1:53:33 > 1:53:37Latin, the girl has to cover 40% of her body, and sheer material doesn't

1:53:37 > 1:53:42count as being covered, so there is a slight question here over whether

1:53:42 > 1:53:46the midriff of her costume is a sheer material, but I don't know who

1:53:46 > 1:53:48invents these rules, because it doesn't take away from the beautiful

1:53:48 > 1:53:55skating anyway. So what happens if it is 40% of your body and the same

1:53:55 > 1:53:59thing happens that just happens, and you start with that percentage

1:53:59 > 1:54:03covered, and as the dance progresses, you have only got 20%

1:54:03 > 1:54:09covered?In this case, I believe there were no deductions for the

1:54:09 > 1:54:15malfunction. The deductions were for slight unison issues in the terms,

1:54:15 > 1:54:20and also one of her terms was quite scraped, so...Well, the Canadian

1:54:20 > 1:54:24sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard so far, and just a word

1:54:24 > 1:54:28on Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes. Thrilled to see them there, but how

1:54:28 > 1:54:33well do you thing they performed?I think they did really well. I felt

1:54:33 > 1:54:36like towards the end of the routine, again the unison was out a little

1:54:36 > 1:54:40bit, and perhaps not the speed of terms that we have seen from some of

1:54:40 > 1:54:44the higher up couples. But a tremendous start. I think it will

1:54:44 > 1:54:47give them confidence to go into the free dance knowing they have made

1:54:47 > 1:54:54the start and it has all gone well. And Chris has been helping them?

1:54:54 > 1:54:57Yes, Chris choreograph this short dance, and they explicitly wanted to

1:54:57 > 1:55:03use the music that we used our Rumba in 1994, and there are also a couple

1:55:03 > 1:55:10of steps in there that were from... Here we go. They were from our

1:55:10 > 1:55:13routine in 1994. They asked Chris if they could please put them in as a

1:55:13 > 1:55:20tribute.So it is a homage to you? Yes.And they talked about the music

1:55:20 > 1:55:24they are using for their free programme. They have gone back to a

1:55:24 > 1:55:26previous routine. They started the season with one routine, and then

1:55:26 > 1:55:30they preferred an older routine so they have revamped that, I guess

1:55:30 > 1:55:33they are more comfortable with it.A top ten finish them would be

1:55:33 > 1:55:36extraordinary given what Penny has been through with that shattered

1:55:36 > 1:55:39kneecap. Now we have a little time before we

1:55:39 > 1:55:52head off to live action, we have the final two

1:55:54 > 1:55:57runs in the men's bobsleigh coming up and also curling at the moment

1:55:57 > 1:56:00live on the red button but we will be going to it here on BBC One. But

1:56:00 > 1:56:03Ask Rhona, tell you what, put up a hashtag Adobe questions come

1:56:03 > 1:56:06flooding in! This is a good one from Julie McIlroy. She says, can the

1:56:06 > 1:56:11teams change the order they throw in?, you can't change the order

1:56:11 > 1:56:15during a game, unless your fifth or alternate player comes off the

1:56:15 > 1:56:20bench, and that is tutor injury or illness only usually, so you can put

1:56:20 > 1:56:26the alternate player on. In Mixed Doubles, they can change after each

1:56:26 > 1:56:32end, they can change who throws two stones and who throws three stones.

1:56:32 > 1:56:38Stephen Chesters asks, what is the most you can score in one end? We

1:56:38 > 1:56:44saw a six?In mixed? Sixes most, and in a team game, it is eight. If you

1:56:44 > 1:56:49score eight, that is a big score.So that is like a 180 in darts, a 147

1:56:49 > 1:56:54in snooker. Have you done it?I have never scored an eight! I have had an

1:56:54 > 1:57:01eight taken off me.Who did that to you?The manager of a curling club

1:57:01 > 1:57:04that either member of did that to me. Can you believe that? Two weeks

1:57:04 > 1:57:12before the Olympics. They are supposed to be helping!

1:57:12 > 1:57:15And one final one, Len Dempsey said all the brooms have bristles are

1:57:15 > 1:57:20they smooth? They are smooth now. Last year the world curling

1:57:20 > 1:57:23Federation had to bring in a ruling because different countries were

1:57:23 > 1:57:28using different types of brush heads to try to help of the stone, they

1:57:28 > 1:57:33were moving it too much, curling it one way or the other, so they were

1:57:33 > 1:57:37interfering too much so the World Curling Federation brought in

1:57:37 > 1:57:40standard brush heads that everybody has to use.She knows everything

1:57:40 > 1:57:44there is to know about curling! Jayne

1:57:44 > 1:57:47there is to know about curling! Jayne, thank you very much, I

1:57:47 > 1:57:49suspect if people want to ask you questions this afternoon when you

1:57:49 > 1:57:53are here with Hazel, they can. The next two hours will be a bit of fun,

1:57:53 > 1:57:58because the medals are going to be decided in the two-man bob, and Eve

1:57:58 > 1:58:06Muirhead, it is ice time. # It oh, so quiet.

1:58:06 > 1:58:18# It's oh so still # You're all alone

1:58:18 > 1:58:21# And so peaceful until?

1:58:21 > 1:58:24# You're all alone # And so peaceful ...

1:58:24 > 1:58:30# You fall in love # The sky up above

1:58:30 > 1:58:41# Simple # You want to cry, you cross your

1:58:41 > 1:58:46heart and hope to die... # Till it's over...

1:58:46 > 1:58:51One minute. It is going to be a contrast in styles and noise and

1:58:51 > 1:58:55speed, but Great Britain as you see have the hammer in their first end

1:58:55 > 1:59:00against Switzerland. And you can see how they get an on the red button,

1:59:00 > 1:59:04live coverage, and we will be joining it shortly. Just want to

1:59:04 > 1:59:13have the cat the house. -- have a look at the house. But now we see

1:59:13 > 1:59:20the leading sliders in the third and penultimate run of the two-man bob.

1:59:20 > 1:59:27COMMENTATOR: Welcome back to the slide

1:59:27 > 1:59:34slide -- Sliding Centre. This is going to be a decisive 15 minutes,

1:59:34 > 1:59:41because as you alluded to, the leaders go first on this absolutely

1:59:41 > 1:59:44critical third run, Brad Hall the Great Britain, a wonderful seventh

1:59:44 > 1:59:52place for him, he is along shortly. John Jackson is alongside us, and

1:59:52 > 1:59:57before the Germans get going, there is a real air and eyes

1:59:57 > 2:00:02differentiation today.Yes, the ice is -11 and the air temperature zero,

2:00:02 > 2:00:07so this could plate some people's strings with their equipment, and

2:00:07 > 2:00:12not for others.

2:00:13 > 2:00:15not for others.Walther is the leader, five seconds dead is routine

2:00:15 > 2:00:23for them, they lead the way, so fast on their first run. They are way

2:00:23 > 2:00:27slightly slower. Walther is proud of his record coming up.This is the

2:00:27 > 2:00:32key part of the track, he gets through it beautifully. Just makes a

2:00:32 > 2:00:38little mistake, but he was one of the most consistent pilots

2:00:38 > 2:00:42yesterday, which is why he is in the lead, although he did have a moment

2:00:42 > 2:00:47where he tipped over on the final bend, but he needs to get this

2:00:47 > 2:00:50straight right. You just see a little tweak with the steering edge,

2:00:50 > 2:00:54trying to get into the right place, but this is another good run, and

2:00:54 > 2:00:57this will put pressure on the guys coming behind him as he comes down

2:00:57 > 2:01:01into the speed trap.

2:01:01 > 2:01:07This is where he tipped it over yesterday but he is fine now. That

2:01:07 > 2:01:11was the slowest of his three runs and it opens the door a little bit

2:01:11 > 2:01:15for his rivals. It was fascinating the way the track changed from the

2:01:15 > 2:01:19first run to the second round yesterday. Everyone seemed to go

2:01:19 > 2:01:23faster on the first run and times dropped off in the second. That

2:01:23 > 2:01:29could be due to the track. By that time it has been 50 sleds and they

2:01:29 > 2:01:34break up the ice and slow it down and it naturally slows over time

2:01:34 > 2:01:37just because it is broken on the surface. There was a little mistake

2:01:37 > 2:01:41he made but I don't think it will cost too much. He did that yesterday

2:01:41 > 2:01:45put his head under the Kowloon on the second runner just rolled over

2:01:45 > 2:01:49because his steering point was right because he could see.The Germans

2:01:49 > 2:01:56are off the track and we will see in the next few minutes how good a time

2:01:56 > 2:02:00that 49.32 was. Evidence of the previous runs, that is not

2:02:00 > 2:02:06spectacular. This man, Justin Kripps with his brakeman Alexander Kopacz

2:02:06 > 2:02:11went 49.1 on one number one and Alex Hawke -- Justin Kripps has been

2:02:11 > 2:02:17quoted as saying podium or bust. He is not interested for full worse. He

2:02:17 > 2:02:21is the overall World Cup winner and he usually has a cracking start. He

2:02:21 > 2:02:26is

2:02:26 > 2:02:31is capable of 4.9.He has to be careful with his mentality. It is a

2:02:31 > 2:02:35lovely line Audi carries a lot of velocity. This green light is

2:02:35 > 2:02:40because of the stark differential but Nico Walther can drive better

2:02:40 > 2:02:45and keep ahead of him at the bottom. The mentality of win it all been it

2:02:45 > 2:02:49could be what cost him in Sochi and he doesn't need that in these games.

2:02:49 > 2:02:54He is a medal contender and he needs to play safe as well. This is a big

2:02:54 > 2:02:57run from these guys. They are pulling away from the Germans said

2:02:57 > 2:03:01this is that move towards the front but it will be within one hundredths

2:03:01 > 2:03:07towards the end.Justin Kripps towards the finish, the time

2:03:07 > 2:03:11evaporates slightly but it was only slight and he is a good leader by

2:03:11 > 2:03:15over one tents. He is the world number one and he takes the lead

2:03:15 > 2:03:21from Nico Walther. That was 100 quicker than his first run yesterday

2:03:21 > 2:03:25but the little mistake we saw from Nico Walther where he had attacked

2:03:25 > 2:03:28between four and five and that is the difference between those runs

2:03:28 > 2:03:36and that has cost him nearly 20 51 hundredths, that type of time there.

2:03:36 > 2:03:41You can see the steam whether guys have warmed up. The guys have done

2:03:41 > 2:03:45what they need to in the sled. You can see the runners turn a little

2:03:45 > 2:03:50bit. They are using all the corner to push themselves across. He is a

2:03:50 > 2:03:54real challenge for the gold medal. Canada haven't won the gold for 20

2:03:54 > 2:04:00years but they are in a great position with their fourth and final

2:04:00 > 2:04:03run to come. Justin Kripps and Alexander Kopacz, a very

2:04:03 > 2:04:08satisfactory third run. The Germans fill three of the first bite places

2:04:08 > 2:04:14as things stand. The second German plan -- had to go. Johannes Lochner

2:04:14 > 2:04:19and Christopher Weber. The world number six. He will be a big force

2:04:19 > 2:04:23in the four-man event as well, so here goes Johannes Lochner and like

2:04:23 > 2:04:29Justin Kripps he can start really well. Justin Kripps is put the

2:04:29 > 2:04:32pressure on here. Johannes Jonker needs a 4.9 start to get underway to

2:04:32 > 2:04:38give him any chance that all of matching what Justin Kripps did.

2:04:38 > 2:04:42Only just behind and it keeps him in contention. He is slightly behind on

2:04:42 > 2:04:48the times from yesterday. The ice temperature of -11 is colder than

2:04:48 > 2:04:54yesterday and maybe that will affect Nico Walther at the start. His

2:04:54 > 2:04:58equipment is not quite suited to ice being that cold. Will it be the same

2:04:58 > 2:05:01for these Germans? This is one of the top pilots and he has been

2:05:01 > 2:05:06perfect so far. Look about for line, that is one of the best lines with

2:05:06 > 2:05:09scene, but has he overdriven the sled and can catch up with the

2:05:09 > 2:05:12Canadians and his team-mate at the bottom or will he keep dropping

2:05:12 > 2:05:20back.The world number six bearing come to their finish now. Let us see

2:05:20 > 2:05:25where they go second. Nico Walther has dropped back to third place

2:05:25 > 2:05:30after having held the lead a few moments ago. Justin Kripps then Joe

2:05:30 > 2:05:34Johannes Lochner and Nico Walther and that is the new order as run

2:05:34 > 2:05:39three really develops. It was a good run for them and a new time of

2:05:39 > 2:05:4449.09, exactly the same as Justin Kripps. Great work. This will be the

2:05:44 > 2:05:48difference between the top guys. They are one hundredths slower than

2:05:48 > 2:05:53the Canadians at the start but exactly the same time at the bottom.

2:05:53 > 2:05:56It is exactly nothing so all of these top pilots, the first one to

2:05:56 > 2:06:03flinch will lose out on a medal and at the moment that is Nico Walther.

2:06:03 > 2:06:10Johannes Lochner and Christopher Weber in good shape. Next one of two

2:06:10 > 2:06:13leading pairings who have been talking greatly about how they are

2:06:13 > 2:06:20struggling with the second corner. It is vital for the Latvians. Oskars

2:06:20 > 2:06:24Melbardis and Janis Strenga is the brakeman. World number eight and

2:06:24 > 2:06:27they are looking forward hopefully for some ratification from the IOC

2:06:27 > 2:06:33to see if they get their bronze in the two man from Sochi and gold in

2:06:33 > 2:06:36the four-man, that is for the future but their immediate problem now is

2:06:36 > 2:06:42to get of Justin Kripps and Johannes Jonker.Their medals cannot be won

2:06:42 > 2:06:46at this particular point but they can certainly be lost. If he doesn't

2:06:46 > 2:06:49get this second corner right it could be his medal chance gone so he

2:06:49 > 2:06:52really needs to focus on getting it right. They are good starting pair

2:06:52 > 2:06:57and they have good equipment. It drives phenomenally well. He is an

2:06:57 > 2:07:02Olympic medallist in two man and Olympic champion in for but he did a

2:07:02 > 2:07:06lot of work there and I am not sure he will get through OK. It is good.

2:07:06 > 2:07:10We did a lot of work on won by you got through the corner OK and he is

2:07:10 > 2:07:13in touch and within one tents. These guys were quick yesterday but they

2:07:13 > 2:07:18made mistakes of the second run so as long as they can smooth things

2:07:18 > 2:07:22out he should be able to stay in contention and maybe even moved back

2:07:22 > 2:07:28into the first spot, but can he get close enough to the leaders. His

2:07:28 > 2:07:33first run was the quickest we've seen so far but the second run was

2:07:33 > 2:07:37really disappointing. Which Oskars Melbardis will we see here? There

2:07:37 > 2:07:41was nothing between these top pilots.Justin Kripps looks to be

2:07:41 > 2:07:45holding a decent lead and that is maintained. The Latvian goes into

2:07:45 > 2:07:53third place them. Oskars Melbardis, 49.08, there has been 100th of a

2:07:53 > 2:08:01second in this third run between the top three. That is identical to his

2:08:01 > 2:08:05top run yesterday so there is consistency there when they get the

2:08:05 > 2:08:10second corner right. The problem may now have is that there is only

2:08:10 > 2:08:13hundredths between them so one of them has to put in an outstanding

2:08:13 > 2:08:18run if they are to challenge Justin Kripps for the gold on the next run.

2:08:18 > 2:08:25One of those people could be coming up next.Absolutely. Francesco

2:08:25 > 2:08:28Friedrich is the German. Brad Hall will come in three athletes time the

2:08:28 > 2:08:34Great Britain. He starts in seventh place. Francesco Friedrich has also

2:08:34 > 2:08:39been talking about how corner too has been messing with his mind. He

2:08:39 > 2:08:43has been under steering and over steering. The world number two and

2:08:43 > 2:08:47the four-time world champion in the two-man bob. Can Francesco Friedrich

2:08:47 > 2:08:52get it right now and keep himself in medal contention? The fastest

2:08:52 > 2:08:56starting team. If he gets this right we are in trouble. He is through

2:08:56 > 2:09:01their clean this time. He has worked it out. Now normally in the two-man

2:09:01 > 2:09:07sled Everyman at the championships in the last 40 years, this guy has

2:09:07 > 2:09:10been top. It didn't work for him in Sochi because the equipment for the

2:09:10 > 2:09:13whole German team wasn't quite running properly but is this where

2:09:13 > 2:09:19he will close in and put pressure on the other menace? A little tap but

2:09:19 > 2:09:23he is starting to close. He has phenomenal equipment. He is not

2:09:23 > 2:09:27usually this back and he will have to fight to become Olympic champion

2:09:27 > 2:09:35from this far point. He is very high and ragged through 16 that he has

2:09:35 > 2:09:39closed and look at that turn record for him. He is now breathing down

2:09:39 > 2:09:43the neck of Justin Kripps, the great Francesco Friedrich, Germany

2:09:43 > 2:09:47desperate want to win this Olympic title back. They have made no show

2:09:47 > 2:09:51at Sochi but Francesco Friedrich sits back in again. You can see what

2:09:51 > 2:09:55that means to him. He knows and they both know what that run was. It was

2:09:55 > 2:10:00perfect and that was run he should have had yesterday. If he had that

2:10:00 > 2:10:03run yesterday there would be no one in contention for the gold at this

2:10:03 > 2:10:07point. That is the quality that this guy brings and this team brings

2:10:07 > 2:10:11because they are both world champions in two man. This will be a

2:10:11 > 2:10:16thriller down to the wire. The five main contenders are now separated

2:10:16 > 2:10:22from gold medal position to fifth by 13 one hundredths of a second. That

2:10:22 > 2:10:26line shows you the difference between the pack. They are almost

2:10:26 > 2:10:29identical with just inches between the difference in lines and that

2:10:29 > 2:10:34could be the equipment and how they find speed in the corners. That was

2:10:34 > 2:10:41the run he needed to put down to put pressure on everyone else. The

2:10:41 > 2:10:45brakeman was thrilled there. Now, not out of it but with having to up

2:10:45 > 2:10:52his game massively is Oskars Kibermaris with Matiss Miknis his

2:10:52 > 2:10:54brakeman. This pairing world number four and they were fourth in the

2:10:54 > 2:11:00World Championships. The best World Cup finish was a third. They are

2:11:00 > 2:11:10usually superb starters together. Their second Olympic Games for young

2:11:10 > 2:11:18Oskars Kibermanis who is just 24. Let's see what they can do.

2:11:18 > 2:11:20Let's see what they can do.That is the start they needed. They got good

2:11:20 > 2:11:24velocity at the top but a little mistake there with a little tap and

2:11:24 > 2:11:26that is not what he needs if he needs to put himself forward. A

2:11:26 > 2:11:33mistake there, the same as others and it cost them a bit of time. They

2:11:33 > 2:11:37are just little mistakes. He needs to drive better than this to put

2:11:37 > 2:11:40himself towards the medals if he wants to be in contention and

2:11:40 > 2:11:45unfortunately at the moment, as he just now is that Per Spett, this is

2:11:45 > 2:11:48not going to work for him and he will not put it back and that was

2:11:48 > 2:11:52another mistake there. Little bits here and there are just costing time

2:11:52 > 2:11:58and it is the difference between the top five pilots and him and he will

2:11:58 > 2:12:05stay sick.Look at that, half a second off the top guys.

2:12:08 > 2:12:14second off the top guys.He will stay six.He just might, if Brad

2:12:14 > 2:12:21Hall can have a flyer now, he might nick ahead of him for sixth place.

2:12:21 > 2:12:26It is a possibility. Yellow McCreight is a possibility. Brad has

2:12:26 > 2:12:30been driving really well but he needs to have a good run because

2:12:30 > 2:12:36behind then it is 100th and it is really packed and condensed in this

2:12:36 > 2:12:39seventh to 12th so any mistakes and he could drop back three or four

2:12:39 > 2:12:44places and then you have to do all of the work again for the final run.

2:12:44 > 2:12:51Strange that after turn four, that bump that Oskars Kibermanis had. It

2:12:51 > 2:12:56has cost him and Nico Walther there. That is a great shot and I wish they

2:12:56 > 2:13:00would use it more. They only used it once yesterday. That might be if or

2:13:00 > 2:13:06today then! I hope you enjoyed it even though it was brief.Proby cost

2:13:06 > 2:13:11thousands of pounds to create. Here we go for Great Britain.Remember

2:13:11 > 2:13:16that Brad in this two-man event is world ranked number 19 and he has

2:13:16 > 2:13:25never finished higher in a World Cup on two-man bob than 13th. Here he

2:13:30 > 2:13:32on two-man bob than 13th. Here he is in seventh place at an Olympic

2:13:32 > 2:13:35Games. Canny get under five seconds for his start? He is bang on.That

2:13:35 > 2:13:37is a good start for those guys. Now, when we talk about little bits of

2:13:37 > 2:13:40history, that was not the run he needed out of that corner. Settle

2:13:40 > 2:13:43into this, Brad, we know you can drive this track. Another tap. The

2:13:43 > 2:13:46same mistakes that Oskars Kibermanis was making. When we talk about the

2:13:46 > 2:13:56history of this event it might not be down to the medals. The brakeman

2:13:56 > 2:13:59here is probably the first man to compete in the 100 metres in the

2:13:59 > 2:14:03summer Olympics and beer brakeman here in the winter. If the first

2:14:03 > 2:14:10person to do that. Brad just needs to keep this together.Mistakes at

2:14:10 > 2:14:14two and four have cost him and he has fallen one second behind the

2:14:14 > 2:14:19Canadians in the gold medal position at the moment. Brad Hall then, his

2:14:19 > 2:14:26heat three time was 49.67 and I am afraid that is a long way short of

2:14:26 > 2:14:31his 49.37 in-run number one.Like we said, the Austrian coming up next is

2:14:31 > 2:14:39100 behind him and one behind him is 100th. Everybody is condensed and

2:14:39 > 2:14:47that run could drop Brad back a few places and that is unfortunate.

2:14:47 > 2:14:49Great lines in some parts of the track and he is still driving

2:14:49 > 2:14:55relatively well. You can see one of the most animated coaches on the

2:14:55 > 2:15:00circuit there. A British guy and ex-Royal Air Force and this is is

2:15:00 > 2:15:03tense Olympic Games. He competed in two Olympic stadia 's been coaching

2:15:03 > 2:15:08for that money as well. After Brad Hall, and as you said, just

2:15:08 > 2:15:13breathing right down his neck, the Austrian pair. Benjamin Meyer going

2:15:13 > 2:15:23together with Markus Sammer. They start this third run just 100th of a

2:15:23 > 2:15:33second behind Brad Hall.

2:15:35 > 2:15:42And they go again, 4.93.That is a big start, can cared to Joel and

2:15:42 > 2:15:46Brad, and this could which puts them in front of of the British bearing.

2:15:46 > 2:15:51He has got a really soft setup on this, you can see by the front of

2:15:51 > 2:15:54the college and how the runners are just sinking into the corners, but

2:15:54 > 2:15:59that is what you want, you need as soft they setup as you can get to be

2:15:59 > 2:16:03as fast as you need to. Sometimes it's just finding that balance

2:16:03 > 2:16:08between the setup, as we now come to the fastest part of the course.

2:16:08 > 2:16:13Little slide there into the big curve 14 and into the speed trap.

2:16:13 > 2:16:17Just going at 86mph.I think they're going to fall behind slightly. Yeah,

2:16:17 > 2:16:29they go seventh.

2:16:29 > 2:16:33Anybody who can get that sort of time from here on in is going to do

2:16:33 > 2:16:40themselves a huge favour. You could see as the Rico Peter comes up this

2:16:40 > 2:16:45straight, you can see his face physically screwed up in the helmet

2:16:45 > 2:16:50as he is working hard. -- as the brakeman comes up. Big Markus Sammer

2:16:50 > 2:16:56on the back and he's really struggling to stop the sled.Great

2:16:56 > 2:17:03rear-view of the start into turn number one. Very hard to get through

2:17:03 > 2:17:09that chicane clean. Benjamin Maier, getting married soon, of course. To

2:17:09 > 2:17:20this Gellert an athlete from Canada. The ice and pitcher, really

2:17:20 > 2:17:27important, is currently -11. The Korean pairing had a fairly moderate

2:17:27 > 2:17:31run number one but they went a good deal quicker with a much faster

2:17:31 > 2:17:36second run. Are they just warming to their task, do you think? They

2:17:36 > 2:17:41certainly are, and I'm just thinking, with the ice being this

2:17:41 > 2:17:47cold, does it suits the Korean equipment? Maybe they've said, this

2:17:47 > 2:17:55is what our runners work best in - can you just crank the ice up a bit

2:17:55 > 2:18:01for us, please? You wouldn't expect any mistakes from this pilot,

2:18:01 > 2:18:05because he's the one who has had the most runs around this track. A

2:18:05 > 2:18:10couple of years ago he won the World Cup, and they were really on the

2:18:10 > 2:18:13crest of a wave, and then they've just dropped off a little bit over

2:18:13 > 2:18:16the past couple of seasons when their head coach passed away

2:18:16 > 2:18:19suddenly, and you can see how perfect he is through there but this

2:18:19 > 2:18:23is not the run which he needs to put himself up towards the medals. No,

2:18:23 > 2:18:30it's not. He has got his eyes potentially on sixth, maybe seventh.

2:18:30 > 2:18:33Coming out of 15 clean and here's the finish... The big crowd cheering

2:18:33 > 2:18:43all the way. And they go sixth. With a time of 49.1, you can't argue with

2:18:43 > 2:18:46that, that is a splendid run, they're getting quicker and quicker.

2:18:46 > 2:18:51They are and that is the fourth fastest run of the day. When the ice

2:18:51 > 2:18:58was soft, yesterday, at about -6, their equipment wasn't running so

2:18:58 > 2:19:04well so they might have cranked it up a little bit today. As we have a

2:19:04 > 2:19:09great view into the first corner from the camera on the noise around

2:19:09 > 2:19:15the big curve. -- on the nose. And this is coming into the final corner

2:19:15 > 2:19:22now. The Koreans getting plenty of camera time.Yeah, as you would

2:19:22 > 2:19:25expect. I bet they are wishing they could have six runs, not four Tricia

2:19:25 > 2:19:32certainly! So, Yunjong Won and Youngwoo Seo do really well. Now,

2:19:32 > 2:19:42Brad Hall is down in ninth. The Canadian support has been very

2:19:42 > 2:19:48strong all Olympics long.

2:19:48 > 2:19:49strong all Olympics long. Now, Nick Poloniato and Jesse Lumsden are

2:19:49 > 2:19:53about to go together just their first Olympics, world-ranked number

2:19:53 > 2:20:00nine. Regular sub-5 starters and they have done it again.Nick

2:20:00 > 2:20:05Poloniato has been a bit inconsistent on this track and when

2:20:05 > 2:20:09he has got it right he has been one of the fastest. So, he can driver

2:20:09 > 2:20:14distracted or he's just a little bit inconsistent, with his inexperience.

2:20:14 > 2:20:19If he puts a run in here, there is no reason why he can't move up a few

2:20:19 > 2:20:24spots. We see him working hard into corner eight. A bit of a tweak to

2:20:24 > 2:20:28keep off the wall added that was as good as we've seen from anybody.

2:20:28 > 2:20:32This is a good, clean run but is it fast enough? Is the temperature

2:20:32 > 2:20:35helping his equipment? There is nothing between these top riders.

2:20:35 > 2:20:39No-one is getting 15 wrong

2:20:39 > 2:20:39nothing between these top riders. No-one is getting 15 wrong, which

2:20:39 > 2:20:44can be tricky. We saw that in the event last year. And he nips ahead

2:20:44 > 2:20:55of Brad Hall, who is now in tenth. That was relatively speaking

2:20:55 > 2:20:58disappointing, costing him places. Just a few too many mistakes, but

2:20:58 > 2:21:02when we look at the difference in ice temperatures, the control that

2:21:02 > 2:21:09Brad did not seem to have today could be because the ice is that

2:21:09 > 2:21:14much colder today. Because all of these guys are now coming down three

2:21:14 > 2:21:18tenths faster than Brad whereas they were a tenth behind him. So it would

2:21:18 > 2:21:24not surprise me if we see Brad back in 12th place, but hopefully not,

2:21:24 > 2:21:34hopefully he will stay where he is. So, from one Canadian to another,

2:21:34 > 2:21:37this is Christopher Spring together with Lascelles Brown. World-ranked

2:21:37 > 2:21:47number three, this page if spring at his third Games. Fifth in Sochi. --

2:21:47 > 2:21:53this pair. Brakeman Lascelles Brown, at his fifth Olympic Games, is 43

2:21:53 > 2:22:00years old. They beat Kripps at Whistler in November. Kripps, our

2:22:00 > 2:22:05leader at the moment.

2:22:05 > 2:22:07leader at the moment. One of the oldest competitors, Lascelles Brown

2:22:07 > 2:22:13is an absolute machine! Chris makes a couple of mistakes at the front.

2:22:13 > 2:22:16What a phenomenal athlete, who trains are so well to keep himself

2:22:16 > 2:22:20in shape, and he's stellar quality athlete, still one of the world's

2:22:20 > 2:22:25best even with him being slightly older, almost OAP status in the

2:22:25 > 2:22:31sport. But this is a tidy run from Chris, apart from those little

2:22:31 > 2:22:34mistakes at the top, but he's not really gaining where he needs to. Is

2:22:34 > 2:22:38this going to put him in front of bad or not? That's what we need to

2:22:38 > 2:22:43focus on at the moment. There's going to be very little in that. And

2:22:43 > 2:22:49as he crosses the line... He is tenth. And Brad Hall drops another

2:22:49 > 2:22:55place to 11th. But Spring, having come in as world number three, it is

2:22:55 > 2:23:00clear his medal chance has completely gone. This is a

2:23:00 > 2:23:03disappointing Games for him.It is and in training he's been really,

2:23:03 > 2:23:08really vast. Sometimes he is in the top three. And he was one of the

2:23:08 > 2:23:13guys that I had down for a potential medal, because the top six were so

2:23:13 > 2:23:16consistent that he was one of them. But it's just not happening for him

2:23:16 > 2:23:21in the race. Again, maybe it's just down to publicly hasn't quite found

2:23:21 > 2:23:26the line, or his equipment is not working as well, or it is now race

2:23:26 > 2:23:33day and he is not so relaxed. Maybe he's now saving it for the former

2:23:33 > 2:23:37next week and he is just going to tune himself back in.Got to shrug

2:23:37 > 2:23:41that disappointment off. What a hurly-burly few weeks it has been

2:23:41 > 2:23:47for the next pilot, Justin Olsen of the United States, with Evan

2:23:47 > 2:23:53Weinstock, his brakeman. Justin Olsen had his appendix out on the

2:23:53 > 2:23:565th of February here, hospitalised for two days. His first training run

2:23:56 > 2:24:01was on the 15th, and here he is, the best of the American three teams

2:24:01 > 2:24:07here. Justin Olsen managed to find speed as well, one of the few teams

2:24:07 > 2:24:14to improve his first run time, to get into second. Here's a great

2:24:14 > 2:24:18competitor, he has still got his hospital tag on his left hand to

2:24:18 > 2:24:23spur him on. Away goes Justin Olsen with Evan Weinstock. And they want a

2:24:23 > 2:24:27sub-5 start - they've got it again, what a competitor he is.He

2:24:27 > 2:24:32certainly is. And he's the only American pilot, the least

2:24:32 > 2:24:35experienced among them but the only one who is getting through that

2:24:35 > 2:24:44transition. We will see with the others later run that they have

2:24:44 > 2:24:49struggled through that transition and that is why they are so far back

2:24:49 > 2:24:52because of what they did on that yesterday. Hopefully this is the run

2:24:52 > 2:24:57which will help move him forward but I don't think he has got any chance

2:24:57 > 2:25:02of getting into the medals, Justin Olsen. And Brad Hall looks like

2:25:02 > 2:25:07staying in 11th place here. Olsen one of the few to hit the wall out

2:25:07 > 2:25:14of 15, slightly ragged there. And he stays 12th. Justin Olsen and Evan

2:25:14 > 2:25:18Weinstock, and you fear it is not going to get much better. As you

2:25:18 > 2:25:21say, John, the other two teams have been doing different, struggling a

2:25:21 > 2:25:28bit.I don't know whether he's trying to take his helmet off... Is

2:25:28 > 2:25:34maybe just waiting to for him to get out, whether he's got something

2:25:34 > 2:25:37caught. There is something not quite right, whether he's just making

2:25:37 > 2:25:43sure... Because he has been saying his stomach still feels a little bit

2:25:43 > 2:25:49bruised at times. You can see the difference in the lines between

2:25:49 > 2:25:55Kripps in the Canadian sled and the American slate of Justin Olsen. How

2:25:55 > 2:25:58much the Canadian sled is just pulling away, and that is real-time

2:25:58 > 2:26:02footage through that corner. It jumps out a little bit here, and

2:26:02 > 2:26:08that will knock him back into the corner. We've got to find a little

2:26:08 > 2:26:14more muscle at the start there. Yeah, they're just hoping to start a

2:26:14 > 2:26:17little bit faster to keep them in the mix. Most of them pilots around

2:26:17 > 2:26:21that area will be looking for top ten.Nice to get some analysis of

2:26:21 > 2:26:30his run there from Justin Olsen. Next is the popular

2:26:30 > 2:26:34Next is the popular Swiss Peter Rico, who also found time between

2:26:34 > 2:26:41run one and run two, when he was a key tenths quicker. You don't

2:26:41 > 2:26:44usually get under five seconds, these two, and they have just missed

2:26:44 > 2:26:49it again. By this high Olympic standard, that is a fairly moderate

2:26:49 > 2:26:52start.Yes, it is but it is keeping them in the mix with the middle of

2:26:52 > 2:27:03the table, and that is sort of where he is again. Peter Rico has got a

2:27:03 > 2:27:06little bit of a the loose style of driving. He likes to use the walls a

2:27:06 > 2:27:11lot. Sometimes you're like, that was amazing, and the next run he is

2:27:11 > 2:27:14smashing off the walls but he is still quick and you're trying to

2:27:14 > 2:27:22work out how. He just hasn't quite had it in the two-man this year. He

2:27:22 > 2:27:32was quick in the four man so maybe it will be next week for him.Again,

2:27:32 > 2:27:36that is a shade quicker than run two. A bit like the Koreans, he is

2:27:36 > 2:27:43improving, but not quick enough, I'm afraid. And there is not much

2:27:43 > 2:27:49movement going along now but everybody is condensing.

2:27:51 > 2:27:55everybody is condensing. It is all still really close. For the final

2:27:55 > 2:27:59run if you make one mistake you can still fall back, as we see this

2:27:59 > 2:28:04great

2:28:04 > 2:28:07great camera shot as we come down the Dragon's Tail, as it's called.

2:28:07 > 2:28:15As we come into the big G-force corner, 12.They're treating us

2:28:15 > 2:28:20today with that point of view cam! Must have been listening! Next

2:28:20 > 2:28:35further Czech Republic, in his second Olympic

2:28:35 > 2:28:41Games, with his regular brakeman. World ranked number 24, so a a bit

2:28:41 > 2:28:45like Brad Hall, to find themselves in 14th place here is a significant

2:28:45 > 2:28:52step forward. Can they hold it together now for run three? If I

2:28:52 > 2:28:54remember rightly they touched the wall on both sides yesterday, a

2:28:54 > 2:29:02little mistake. But he's a very inexperienced pilot, he has only

2:29:02 > 2:29:08been driving two years, and one of the reasons why potentially he is in

2:29:08 > 2:29:13it is because everybody has had limited experience on this track,

2:29:13 > 2:29:17which almost makes it a level playing field. And that is one of

2:29:17 > 2:29:22the best slides through there. It shows that he knows the track. He

2:29:22 > 2:29:25just hasn't got the skills to get down without any mistakes. He's just

2:29:25 > 2:29:32making little mistakes. On most corners. He's not going to into

2:29:32 > 2:29:36trouble Brad Hall, that's for sure. Brad Hall will stay in 11th. The

2:29:36 > 2:29:39cheque Acra pair are in 14th, exactly where they started, with a

2:29:39 > 2:29:50fairly routine run. -- the Czech pair. And that is exactly the same

2:29:50 > 2:29:56time as Brad Hall had on that run, and that's why Brad has copped from

2:29:56 > 2:29:58seventh back to 11th, and it is costly - you can't make any

2:29:58 > 2:30:05mistakes.

2:30:07 > 2:30:11He is using all of the ice there and a bit of the wood to push himself

2:30:11 > 2:30:16across. A great young pairing and I think towards the next Olympic in

2:30:16 > 2:30:21four years these will be a real threat potentially.Now the 15th

2:30:21 > 2:30:29pair to go will be from Austria. They are my curse track all waiting

2:30:29 > 2:30:36together with Kilian Walch together. -- Markus Treichl. He has been

2:30:36 > 2:30:41improving his ranking year-on-year and he is still only 24. Markus

2:30:41 > 2:30:46Treichl normally can be relied on for a five second start. Let us see

2:30:46 > 2:30:51how well years away. 4.9 eight.I think there was a little issue at

2:30:51 > 2:30:56the start there. The brakeman didn't hit in time and he was a bit behind.

2:30:56 > 2:30:59They got 4.98 off that and if they get it right there are maybe a

2:30:59 > 2:31:03couple more 100th at the top. He has had some really good friends down

2:31:03 > 2:31:08here. For a guy who has been driving for a couple of years, for his

2:31:08 > 2:31:13experience, wary of that, he is overachieving on his expectations of

2:31:13 > 2:31:16where he wanted to be. You will never be a medal contender but

2:31:16 > 2:31:20certainly to be in the top 15 when he has not really ever made the top

2:31:20 > 2:31:2520 before is a real step up for him and hopefully that is good, as he

2:31:25 > 2:31:29just makes little mistakes here and there on the way down.Yes, they are

2:31:29 > 2:31:33costly Brad Hall will hold his 11th position and Markus Treichl will not

2:31:33 > 2:31:39get close to him. 14th place for the Austrian. Now the next few, of

2:31:39 > 2:31:42course, all they are really worried about is not necessarily moving up

2:31:42 > 2:31:46the table with any pretensions of winning anything but to get a fourth

2:31:46 > 2:31:51round. Of course you have to be in the top 20 and we are now down to

2:31:51 > 2:31:57the final half of run number three. See how his hands slipped and that

2:31:57 > 2:32:01is because he just went a little bit early and the brakeman didn't it and

2:32:01 > 2:32:04he is almost running into a static slogan that is not good as the

2:32:04 > 2:32:08driver to run into something that is not moving. You want the brakeman to

2:32:08 > 2:32:13move it a couple of inches before you get onto it and that is what

2:32:13 > 2:32:19happens. That combination of errors there, there was a good chance he

2:32:19 > 2:32:26could be pushed on the second run which is a good start for him.Next

2:32:26 > 2:32:30ago our perilous Romanians I have taken quite a shine to because they

2:32:30 > 2:32:36are so young and so massively overachieving. Both Mihai Tentea,

2:32:36 > 2:32:42the pilot and Nicolae Daroczi, the brakeman are both still only 19. The

2:32:42 > 2:32:49youngest pair in the event and they find themselves in 16th place. They

2:32:49 > 2:32:53have had a little bit of experience at World Championships but they got

2:32:53 > 2:33:00nowhere near the top 30. This is a real success story from Romania. It

2:33:00 > 2:33:08certainly is. It is a young pairing that have come here with no real

2:33:08 > 2:33:11experience as we see there, the brakeman almost fell into the slide,

2:33:11 > 2:33:14that was a big mistake, said this will drop them back down the order

2:33:14 > 2:33:19because that will have killed their velocity. If he could drive well, he

2:33:19 > 2:33:24just made a little mistake there, it is not going as smooth as yesterday,

2:33:24 > 2:33:28that might... The driver will have felt the issue with the brakeman

2:33:28 > 2:33:31there and it may be affected him down the run. He doesn't even know

2:33:31 > 2:33:36he is in. It might felt get the sled. In fact quite eye and that is

2:33:36 > 2:33:41because he is a novice and that is just the way it works. We will see

2:33:41 > 2:33:47how this goes for them but they will be struggling to stay in the top 20.

2:33:47 > 2:33:52It is a shame because their first runs were really good but this has

2:33:52 > 2:33:57been really ragged and buy some way that is their slowest run of the

2:33:57 > 2:34:03three so far. But we stress again that they are so run -- so young and

2:34:03 > 2:34:07their inexperience was bound to catch them at some stage.Hopefully

2:34:07 > 2:34:10we will have a good look at the start but something like that it is

2:34:10 > 2:34:13imperative that the brakeman gets in the sled because if he falls off or

2:34:13 > 2:34:17doesn't get in then they get disqualified. As he goes to get in

2:34:17 > 2:34:21he just catches his feet and the reason he has done that is because

2:34:21 > 2:34:25he has probably ran a couple of steps to far and he just can't keep

2:34:25 > 2:34:30up with the sled.Justin Kripps leads with Brad

2:34:30 > 2:34:32up with the sled.Justin Kripps leads with Brad Hall in 11th place.

2:34:32 > 2:34:37We will leave that for now and Great Britain had a disappointing third

2:34:37 > 2:34:42run with Brad Hall slipping down from seventh to 11th and they go in

2:34:42 > 2:34:48reverse order on their fourth run. We will join that as the medals are

2:34:48 > 2:34:53decided. We are going to focus now on curling because the Great Britain

2:34:53 > 2:34:56women are in a tie at fourth place with three games left. They have got

2:34:56 > 2:35:01to finish top four to make the knockout stages. To put it simply,

2:35:01 > 2:35:05they really need to beat Switzerland. They really do because

2:35:05 > 2:35:08their two remaining games after this are Japan and Canada who are both in

2:35:08 > 2:35:12the mix with Britain in fighting for the top four so it would make things

2:35:12 > 2:35:17a lot easier if they win this game yet.We join it lie very shortly but

2:35:17 > 2:35:22first we will catch up on the key moment so far and the end of end one

2:35:22 > 2:35:28we have a situation here, just talk us through this house, Rohner.

2:35:28 > 2:35:32Switzerland were lying three and Eve played a great shot there as she

2:35:32 > 2:35:35came in and she came in and I am surprised that Switzerland are not

2:35:35 > 2:35:39just following a rent because she could draw in and freeze on top of

2:35:39 > 2:35:48that but she chose to play Agard. This is the Swiss skip. She has

2:35:48 > 2:35:52chosen to guard and say that Britain have won and there is no way they

2:35:52 > 2:35:58will get in for two and that is only the first end and she may be doesn't

2:35:58 > 2:36:01want to make take chances but she plays the guy that she wanted to and

2:36:01 > 2:36:06maybe she could have come in and put pressure on Britain there.Ship

2:36:06 > 2:36:11coming to block it further down Eve would've had no way through but it

2:36:11 > 2:36:17still looks very hard to get a stone anywhere near the centre.

2:36:17 > 2:36:22Absolutely. She could have followed her with the red stone. Switzerland

2:36:22 > 2:36:26have struggled this week. They are a strong team so I think it is just

2:36:26 > 2:36:33lack of confidence.Eve as Amer and shoot as options, what are they?Is

2:36:33 > 2:36:39not a lot. You can see the red in the house on the left-hand side and

2:36:39 > 2:36:45she is trying to nick it, very thin, she can't see any of that stone. She

2:36:45 > 2:36:49is just trying to make it thin into four foot so this is a really tricky

2:36:49 > 2:36:56shot at the end of the first end.On a scale of one to ten, how tricky?

2:36:56 > 2:37:03No very. 9.5. To get the line just right and just make it. Bear in mind

2:37:03 > 2:37:10that this team had a hog line violation in the last game against

2:37:10 > 2:37:15Sweden but they'd taken to in this first end really against the run of

2:37:15 > 2:37:20play.That was a great result on the first end. They got off to a great

2:37:20 > 2:37:25start there. The second end was blank to so GB are still 2-0 ahead

2:37:25 > 2:37:32and they going into and three but Switzerland have the hammer.Eve was

2:37:32 > 2:37:38unlucky when she tried to hit their and her red just is showing that it

2:37:38 > 2:37:42didn't bury behind the guard. It gives Switzerland an opportunity to

2:37:42 > 2:37:46play a thin double full four but again lack of confidence from her,

2:37:46 > 2:37:51she is playing with a shot. A tap back the two. She is trying to tap

2:37:51 > 2:37:58the read through. She could have got a thin double full four but happy to

2:37:58 > 2:38:04take two I think.Had to come up with the magic shot Switzerland

2:38:04 > 2:38:09would have been 4-2 in front but as it is they scored 2-2 at the end of

2:38:09 > 2:38:12three ends and we will go there shortly but first I want your

2:38:12 > 2:38:18reaction to Brad Hall on that drive, the third run for the GB men?

2:38:18 > 2:38:21Gutting, absolutely gutting. He made the mistake at Perth to which it

2:38:21 > 2:38:25said tricky because it is designed to throw you into the war. He had a

2:38:25 > 2:38:38great start but he got the mistake of being thrown into the wall

2:38:42 > 2:38:45and the unsettled him. It went on and on and it was his most scrappy

2:38:45 > 2:38:48run by far. Let us not be confused, yesterday was phenomenal. It was

2:38:48 > 2:38:50fantastic and we all hoped for the dream and we coped to continuing

2:38:50 > 2:38:53carry on in the top seven or even climb up some places but I guess

2:38:53 > 2:38:56this is still a learning experience for him and it is not his strong

2:38:56 > 2:38:59event and I guess that run there was more of a reflection of where he is.

2:38:59 > 2:39:02It is just a shame because his other runs were brilliant.11th place and

2:39:02 > 2:39:05going in reverse order some pine after 2pm we will show you that. Now

2:39:05 > 2:39:10let us head to the curling live. We have had a strong start for the GB

2:39:10 > 2:39:14win and it is potentially nervy for Switzerland but the guys who were

2:39:14 > 2:39:20watching every stone being thrown our Steve Cram and Jackie Lockhart.

2:39:25 > 2:39:33Eve Muirhead is sitting and watching as Anna Sloan, the third, sends down

2:39:33 > 2:39:40the first of her two stones in this forfend. All tied up and Switzerland

2:39:40 > 2:39:45are playing pretty well. Great Britain started well. That is better

2:39:45 > 2:39:48and it just picks up a read at the back and that was a little unlucky

2:39:48 > 2:39:51there. It has cleared things up a little bit out front because this

2:39:51 > 2:39:58was starting to look a bit tricky for Eve Muirhead.Now shot.Can't

2:39:58 > 2:40:09been there well, maybe.

2:40:09 > 2:40:11been there well, maybe. This is the Swiss third who has had a cracking

2:40:11 > 2:40:18game so far. She hasn't put a foot wrong. A match which Great Britain

2:40:18 > 2:40:23really need to win here. They have got three wins and three losses and

2:40:23 > 2:40:30the matches taking place elsewhere. She won't be too happy about that.

2:40:30 > 2:40:34She re-wanted to stay in the middle there just roll over and just cover

2:40:34 > 2:40:40her corner guard but what she has done is left us an opportunity now.

2:40:40 > 2:40:44This is where we capitalised on the end that we picked up a two and we

2:40:44 > 2:40:52played a nice freeze.Yes, just to reiterate, Great Britain need to get

2:40:52 > 2:40:56at least five wins. Six would be great but they have a difficult

2:40:56 > 2:40:58run-in with three top teams Switzerland is one of them. They

2:40:58 > 2:41:02have to play Canada in their last match as well so Eve Muirhead knows

2:41:02 > 2:41:07how important when it is. This has got to keep going here, it hasn't

2:41:07 > 2:41:14got much on it, they must weep as hard as they can. Not quite where

2:41:14 > 2:41:20she wanted it. Just to underline that, the couple of matches that are

2:41:20 > 2:41:23of interest today are taking place on the other sheets. China play the

2:41:23 > 2:41:27USA and they are both on the same record as Great Britain so one of

2:41:27 > 2:41:35them will end up with four wins and it is Korea who are leading the

2:41:35 > 2:41:40table which is as much of a surprise to career as anyone else! They have

2:41:40 > 2:41:43five wins and one loss in Sweden are also going well. Korea are not

2:41:43 > 2:41:50playing well tonight -- Korea are not playing tonight so we have less

2:41:50 > 2:41:55of a crowded. Britain are added bit of a logjam in the middle. Several

2:41:55 > 2:42:00teams all started this session with three wins and three losses. Silvana

2:42:00 > 2:42:04Turin is only, that says 100% but I am not sure if that is right. I am

2:42:04 > 2:42:12not sure who is marking it. I am not sure that she has shot 100% here but

2:42:12 > 2:42:17she has started well. It is Eve Muirhead who in the first end had a

2:42:17 > 2:42:26couple of great stones.

2:42:26 > 2:42:30couple of great stones. Then limiting Switzerland to two in the

2:42:30 > 2:42:33third and it looked like they might even get more, so just trying to

2:42:33 > 2:42:39work something here, even. I think they are lying two now. Yes, they

2:42:39 > 2:42:44are. No I think they are probably actually lying three at the moment

2:42:44 > 2:42:48but we still have a great opportunity.Eve played a great

2:42:48 > 2:42:51freeze in the first end so we want to look to something very similar

2:42:51 > 2:42:59and right on the T-line. Just in front of the Swiss yellow stone. The

2:42:59 > 2:43:02point about that is she will then try to have it in a position where

2:43:02 > 2:43:06it cannot be moved and certainly not moved easily. Then if you are lying

2:43:06 > 2:43:09shot with that you always have the chance to come in with your last

2:43:09 > 2:43:20stone and get your two. I would not have

2:43:20 > 2:43:24have that they're where it says Eve Muirhead with 83% accuracy, I am not

2:43:24 > 2:43:28sure that is right. Does this have a chance? It will curl and it will

2:43:28 > 2:43:36bounce of this, when it? Just a bit? That is a real...80 shot but it can

2:43:36 > 2:43:42be moved. It is lying shot but it can be moved here. You can hear the

2:43:42 > 2:43:45girls saying sorry but it is difficult. You don't want it to be

2:43:45 > 2:43:48short and you don't want it to be long they are trying their best to

2:43:48 > 2:43:53make sure they are managing that stoned the ice. Eve Posner job is to

2:43:53 > 2:43:59lay about to give them another chance to be able to sweep it to the

2:43:59 > 2:44:05target.All in means really is that there is a good chance here for

2:44:05 > 2:44:09Switzerland to force one rather than a two. It is pretty open out front

2:44:09 > 2:44:15for Eve Muirhead with a last stone. Hopefully it will still come in for

2:44:15 > 2:44:21one. This end cannot be blanked with all of those stones there. I am

2:44:21 > 2:44:26amazed they have given Tirinzoni 100%. Let us see how he comes here.

2:44:26 > 2:44:37It might just be on drawers. 100%. No goodness me!

2:44:38 > 2:44:43No goodness me! Where is that? She is saying, keep fit, keep fit. She

2:44:43 > 2:44:50has done well. Eve Muirhead then can get one here. She has to decide how

2:44:50 > 2:44:52to do it.

2:45:03 > 2:45:17Straightforward nose hit should do it.This is going to move.Yeah,

2:45:17 > 2:45:22hopefully it isn't going to do too much...

2:45:26 > 2:45:32STEVE CRAM: So, all the affirmation from her team-mates settling Eve

2:45:32 > 2:45:35down here. This is not quite the result she would have wanted from

2:45:35 > 2:45:41this end, if it is just the one shot. Really wanted to try and get

2:45:41 > 2:45:45two, the previous stone didn't quite end up where she wanted it, and

2:45:45 > 2:45:48Tirinzoni had a fairly straightforward takeout, and now Eve

2:45:48 > 2:45:53trying to do the same for her one. And she has managed to do that.

2:45:53 > 2:45:59Despite the fact it is only one, Great Britain now lead 3-2, and I

2:45:59 > 2:46:02still think Eve is playing very well. You want your skip to be

2:46:02 > 2:46:07making her shots, because Eve Muirhead has the ability to carry

2:46:07 > 2:46:10this team all the way through. So, after the fourth end, Britain lead

2:46:10 > 2:46:17by one. Who did you spot there?

2:46:18 > 2:46:20by one. Who did you spot there?I spotted Eve's mum and brother up in

2:46:20 > 2:46:25the crowd and I think Anna's mum must be in there as well. So, the

2:46:25 > 2:46:34parents have arrived to support their children. And family.

2:46:34 > 2:46:37their children. And family. This is turning out to be a real good scrap,

2:46:37 > 2:46:40isn't it? Both teams are playing pretty well, the back end if you

2:46:40 > 2:46:47like of the Swiss team, Silvana Tirinzoni and Esther Neuenschwander,

2:46:47 > 2:46:50making life a little bit more difficult than Britain would have

2:46:50 > 2:46:55liked. But this is the Olympic Games and Switzerland are a very, very

2:46:55 > 2:47:02good team. They may have a terrible record here, they have only won two,

2:47:02 > 2:47:06but they still have a chance, they know that, if they can win three

2:47:06 > 2:47:12matches, they will have a five and four record. Play in Great Britain

2:47:12 > 2:47:16here, obviously. And their last two matches are against Denmark, who

2:47:16 > 2:47:21most teams are managing to overcome, and their last match is against

2:47:21 > 2:47:28Japan. Japan at the moment are playing Sweden and that one is 2-1.

2:47:28 > 2:47:32And I can tell you, in the other match involving two teams in the

2:47:32 > 2:47:36middle of the pack with Great Britain, USA against China, USA have

2:47:36 > 2:47:42gone 7-1 up in that one after just three ends.

2:47:42 > 2:47:45JACKIE LOCKHART: China seem to have come off the boil in the last couple

2:47:45 > 2:47:54of games.

2:47:58 > 2:48:00Yeah, lost heavily to Korea, although most people have been

2:48:00 > 2:48:08losing to Korea!

2:48:08 > 2:48:12losing to Korea! Team Kim, as they are known as bus they all have the

2:48:12 > 2:48:14surname Kim, and they have been sensational. Switzerland have got

2:48:14 > 2:48:21the hammer this time.

2:48:21 > 2:48:25the hammer this time. Don't forget, this free guard zone means that

2:48:25 > 2:48:30anything outside of the house, until we have had four stones played, it

2:48:30 > 2:48:37cannot move, you can hit them and your stone can go out of play but if

2:48:37 > 2:48:42you move the guard out of play it will be replaced. So, Lauren Gray

2:48:42 > 2:48:50now coming in behind

2:48:50 > 2:48:54now coming in behind that front red. Don't want it to come into far.

2:48:54 > 2:49:06That's really good!Nice. Well swept.

2:49:08 > 2:49:13We were chatting this morning about the fact that sort of halfway

2:49:13 > 2:49:20through, the stones had a bit of treatment. And may be explaining

2:49:20 > 2:49:24that people might be surprised to hear that?I was actually surprised

2:49:24 > 2:49:28to hear that, because we are using different stance to what we had in

2:49:28 > 2:49:32the mixed doubles. But seemingly these stones were running a little

2:49:32 > 2:49:38bit straighter than the players or the organisers would have liked. So,

2:49:38 > 2:49:45the technicians sandpaper the bottom of the stone and it gives a bit of

2:49:45 > 2:49:51the curl back in the stone on the ice surface, so updated that the

2:49:51 > 2:49:54other night. I think a few of the teams maybe got caught out with the

2:49:54 > 2:50:00swing, but certainly that's what you're looking for, to get at least

2:50:00 > 2:50:074ft to 6ft swing. Because then you can get around guards, you can get

2:50:07 > 2:50:13delicate little tap backs. If the stones are running really straight,

2:50:13 > 2:50:20it makes for a really boring game. You can't come in behind.

2:50:22 > 2:50:29STEVE CRAM: Still trying to work at one in.

2:50:29 > 2:50:34one in. So, Switzerland are going to try to move some of these outfront

2:50:34 > 2:50:41here. Just wants to clear the path through with the hammer, to see as

2:50:41 > 2:50:49much as they can.

2:50:49 > 2:50:56We were explaining earlier on that Manuela Siegrist, playing second

2:50:56 > 2:50:59here, would normally play third. Most of the time she has played with

2:50:59 > 2:51:03this team she has played third. Actually just catches that red and

2:51:03 > 2:51:07stays out there.Yeah, she was hoping to catch much more of that

2:51:07 > 2:51:11yellow to take the two of them. So, she's playing second now, partly

2:51:11 > 2:51:15weeping because of Aine injury she has suffered, missed a whole season.

2:51:15 > 2:51:19And either she hasn't got back to good form and has been moved down

2:51:19 > 2:51:23the order, or for whatever reason the knee isn't allowing her...

2:51:23 > 2:51:28Except even in second position you have got to play the same shots. She

2:51:28 > 2:51:31has switched places, if you like, in this team, with Esther

2:51:31 > 2:51:34Neuenschwander, but today, Esther Neuenschwander is relishing that

2:51:34 > 2:51:44fall. Vicki Adams, always been the number two.Yeah, these girls have

2:51:44 > 2:51:50held their positions for quite a few years now. And all actually very

2:51:50 > 2:51:56individually strong in their positions.

2:51:56 > 2:52:00positions. Vicki, I'm going to call her a little pocket rocket, because

2:52:00 > 2:52:03she's really handy in the team when they need to clear up double guards

2:52:03 > 2:52:09and Fripp guards oft, she's really good at that and that is what a

2:52:09 > 2:52:12second player has to do. Lauren really good at setting up the other

2:52:12 > 2:52:18girls. And, you've got to be able to be an all-rounder when you are the

2:52:18 > 2:52:21vice skipper and then take over, so everybody has got their own specific

2:52:21 > 2:52:30role. But once again, it is a team event, and they all need each other.

2:52:35 > 2:52:43Actually quite like to move both of those, but going for the long one.

2:52:45 > 2:52:49Manuela Siegrist normally is third, might not have played too many of

2:52:49 > 2:52:54these over the years, necessarily, just removing the guard. That looks

2:52:54 > 2:53:02a little higher, doesn't it?

2:53:05 > 2:53:09Oh, they've turned the blowers on again, seriously?! I was feeling

2:53:09 > 2:53:14quite toasty here for a change! That will be the ice technicians keeping

2:53:14 > 2:53:17the ice temperature right, not worrying about us getting cold up

2:53:17 > 2:53:24here in the commentary position! And it's partly as it fills up again, we

2:53:24 > 2:53:27get more people in and that affects the ambient temperature in the

2:53:27 > 2:53:34arena.

2:53:35 > 2:53:39arena. Anna Sloan saying there that this one is going to Carl bit too

2:53:39 > 2:53:44much. Holding up, just about. Almost in exactly the same place as the

2:53:44 > 2:53:52previous guard.-- to curl. We're keeping putting stuff in the centre

2:53:52 > 2:53:56as bus we would really like to try and limit Switzerland to one here,

2:53:56 > 2:54:02or even maybe an opportunity to steal a one. Switzerland with the

2:54:02 > 2:54:06hammer, and they don't want everything covered. They've knocked

2:54:06 > 2:54:10off the 4ft down the centre as bus they want that clear. They want to

2:54:10 > 2:54:16try and give themselves an opportunity of a way in.You see, in

2:54:16 > 2:54:20second, went on fortune, might have played... But that is a good shot.

2:54:20 > 2:54:29Still with some options for Britain. Three stones out front. Great

2:54:29 > 2:54:35Britain still lying shot, that one closest to the button. So, Eve is

2:54:35 > 2:54:39going to ask Anna Sloan to come round on that side, the open side as

2:54:39 > 2:54:53we look at it. On the left, from Anna's point of view.

2:54:53 > 2:55:02Anna's point of view. Sweeping this really hard. Really hard!

2:55:02 > 2:55:05really hard. Really hard!They've done the job. It's a little bit high

2:55:05 > 2:55:12but it has done what they had to do. So, leaves a dilemma for Silvana

2:55:12 > 2:55:16Tirinzoni, whether she's going to once again try and take out these

2:55:16 > 2:55:21guards at the top or whether she's going to try and come in now and tap

2:55:21 > 2:55:33her yellow back. You can hear her calling for... She wants back tee

2:55:33 > 2:55:37weight, just enough to come in and tap it. She won't be too bothered if

2:55:37 > 2:55:45she gets a split, she just wants to create a briefly. -- to create a two

2:55:45 > 2:55:53here. This looks heavy... And wide...There was that look on her

2:55:53 > 2:55:58face. It is almost embarrassing if you send it wide AND heavy. This

2:55:58 > 2:56:03might go past everything. Oh, she just catches it! Just notches it in

2:56:03 > 2:56:12there as well. Britain still lying shot.

2:56:12 > 2:56:14shot. She just about got away with not having total embarrassment

2:56:14 > 2:56:21there.That actually curled are not as it came into the house. It did

2:56:21 > 2:56:25get a small kiss on the yellow, which took the running off, and she

2:56:25 > 2:56:33is sitting third shot in the background there. The British

2:56:33 > 2:56:35coaching staff, Kelly Schafer, you see she's putting her jacket on as

2:56:35 > 2:56:44well. Four levels down from us! Yeah! She's getting cold sitting

2:56:44 > 2:56:57about doing nothing! Kelly, a very experienced player for Eve. This is

2:56:57 > 2:57:05Kelly's third Olympic Games and she went to the Vancouver games in 2010

2:57:05 > 2:57:16with Eve and there she met her future husband.

2:57:17 > 2:57:22So, stone placement is really important here. Bring, as far as you

2:57:22 > 2:57:30can into that 8ft. That's nice. -- bring, as far as you can.So, that's

2:57:30 > 2:57:38improved the situation.

2:57:38 > 2:57:43improved the situation. Sju would love to shift one of these reds.

2:57:43 > 2:57:52She's got to shift the one that's... Well, perhaps maybe get the two of

2:57:52 > 2:58:00these, but the yellow, depending on how she hits it, might almost I want

2:58:00 > 2:58:03to say Circle its way back into the ring is. If she just catches the

2:58:03 > 2:58:09outside of it. Or is she just trying to think about driving it in?I

2:58:09 > 2:58:15think she is. It is a fair bit of distance, though. You're going to

2:58:15 > 2:58:20see some rocks moving around here. She's going to try and drive that

2:58:20 > 2:58:24yellow in at the top. She will have one more stone after this, of

2:58:24 > 2:58:32course. If it doesn't quite work out.

2:58:36 > 2:58:42out. So, Great Britain just forcing the issue a little bit. Would love

2:58:42 > 2:58:49to get a steal, it would be great to go in at half-time two up. So,

2:58:49 > 2:58:56Tirinzoni will try and use her own stone and give this plenty of oomph.

2:58:56 > 2:59:00Oh, that's going to go past everything. Well, a mistake there

2:59:00 > 2:59:10from a the Swiss skip. It does not look like her kind of shot.No. So,

2:59:10 > 2:59:13a great opportunity here for us to close the door in this end and try

2:59:13 > 2:59:19and make a steal, and that would be a great end for us.So what do you

2:59:19 > 2:59:26do, shot the way in, put a guard out?Yep. In fact what you've got to

2:59:26 > 2:59:29do is think of the worst shot that your opposition wants to play, and

2:59:29 > 2:59:35probably is that. That run back again. So, if we can close the door

2:59:35 > 2:59:43and put a guard out there and stop her getting a draw, that's perfect.

2:59:43 > 2:59:46If she makes it, she makes it a, but you've put a lot of pressure on how

2:59:46 > 2:59:51to do the hardest shot. And she's not looking too happy with herself

2:59:51 > 2:59:56at the moment.

2:59:58 > 3:00:01Great Britain lead Switzerland by just one shot here but Switzerland

3:00:01 > 3:00:07have a hammer so this could be a crucial end. Even your moat -- Eve

3:00:07 > 3:00:10Muirhead needs to make life very difficult for Tirinzoni with her

3:00:10 > 3:00:16last stone I get the steel and at the very worst limit them to one.

3:00:16 > 3:00:22You can see where Anna Sloan has it... Well you can't because we're

3:00:22 > 3:00:27looking down but we will see in a minute where she had her brush. That

3:00:27 > 3:00:30is where the stone was meant to end up plans it is not far away from

3:00:30 > 3:00:35that.

3:00:35 > 3:00:43that. Been in good form, the British skip so far in this match.

3:00:43 > 3:00:54skip so far in this match. Now Tirinzoni, what you fancy here.

3:00:55 > 3:00:59She doesn't fancy, the drawn-out Eve has put that there has closed up

3:00:59 > 3:01:04there in terms of a straightforward shot. What did she decide there? Is

3:01:04 > 3:01:19she still going to try?Back line. What can we see from this end?

3:01:19 > 3:01:22What can we see from this end? I think we are in a really good

3:01:22 > 3:01:27position here? Will she try and tap the British red? The top red is

3:01:27 > 3:01:35covering the back one. I really do not know what she is trying here.

3:01:35 > 3:01:38The only thing I can see is that she will try and come through the gap

3:01:38 > 3:01:44between the two reds that are out in the front of the house and come down

3:01:44 > 3:01:57on to the top red.Tap the road onto the yellow. Use our reds to...It is

3:01:57 > 3:02:00a difficult shot. She has to get around everything here and she has

3:02:00 > 3:02:07done. How is this going to sit? Well done.A lovely shot. That is a

3:02:07 > 3:02:12cracking shot. They get there one. That is still a bit of a result for

3:02:12 > 3:02:16Great Britain because we were held to one in the previous sense in the

3:02:16 > 3:02:18fifth vendor Switzerland pick up their one and we reach the halfway

3:02:18 > 3:02:23point with this match perfectly poised. It is Great Britain three,

3:02:23 > 3:02:32Switzerland three, after 5 cents. -- five ends.

3:02:59 > 3:03:02Where will you start? Get active, get involved, get inspired.

3:03:02 > 3:03:07If you want to take up curling, you most certainly can! Are you all

3:03:07 > 3:03:13right?Youyou coach a lot of people, don't you?I used to.Do not

3:03:13 > 3:03:21anymore?And no. I just don't. We don't have to get into politics

3:03:21 > 3:03:24here!The main thing is, you would still encourage people to get into

3:03:24 > 3:03:28curling because you need more younger people coming in. You'll

3:03:28 > 3:03:31absolutely and this is a great opportunity for curling at every

3:03:31 > 3:03:37four years we get this publicity so everyone should try curling events

3:03:37 > 3:03:41and get involved. Both the British teams out there are very young in

3:03:41 > 3:03:44their general make up and it is a team game because much as we focus

3:03:44 > 3:03:48on Eve Muirhead because she is the skip she is ably supported and Anna

3:03:48 > 3:03:52Sloan playing particular well. This shot here set up the chance of the

3:03:52 > 3:03:57steel but it did not come off in the end because the Swiss skip played a

3:03:57 > 3:04:00final stone that was a blinder but Anna Stone Vicki Adams and Lauren

3:04:00 > 3:04:05Gray or play their part because it is like a game of chess, isn't it?

3:04:05 > 3:04:10Absolutely. Teamwork is so important, the sweeping the weight

3:04:10 > 3:04:14calls. You can see that the because this shot is double guarded in their

3:04:14 > 3:04:17house, it really left Switzerland with a uphill battle and they had to

3:04:17 > 3:04:22spend the rest of the end clear the guards. It was the stone before that

3:04:22 > 3:04:26landed in that was really key. Let us go to the Swiss skip and she is

3:04:26 > 3:04:29under pressure with the hammer and she has to get something out of this

3:04:29 > 3:04:40and it is not an easy shot to play. She is only facing one against but

3:04:40 > 3:04:44it is not an easy shot fired to draw in here, so she is trying to scrape

3:04:44 > 3:04:47past the top guard and tap up the one in the house to tap hose onto

3:04:47 > 3:04:50the bottom so it is really tricky to get the weight and malign right

3:04:50 > 3:05:00here. She just passes that top guard and taps on to the Buckton, what a

3:05:00 > 3:05:05shot!It is all square and three all and the important thing about this

3:05:05 > 3:05:10game is that if Great Britain can win it their fate is in their own

3:05:10 > 3:05:14hands but if they don't win it it depends on the results because this

3:05:14 > 3:05:18is the situation. You see all of those teams tied in fourth place

3:05:18 > 3:05:22going into this and actually you have been across the scores on the

3:05:22 > 3:05:26other games so the USA are in action at the moment against China. They

3:05:26 > 3:05:32are winning quite comfortably at the moment so that would put them up.

3:05:32 > 3:05:36Japan are playing Sweden. That is a close game as well. This is where it

3:05:36 > 3:05:41gets to the stage in the competition that every game matters. We could do

3:05:41 > 3:05:44with them winning so we could breathe a little easier.Yes, so it

3:05:44 > 3:05:52is nice to watch.Tomorrow will be really big.We had last stone

3:05:52 > 3:05:56advantage in the sixpence of it is all good from the British point of

3:05:56 > 3:06:03view!Let us bring you up-to-date with the headline so far today.

3:06:03 > 3:06:11Austria 's reigning world champion bounces back from her world snowball

3:06:11 > 3:06:15disappointment to top the pile in qualifying with 98 points but Aimee

3:06:15 > 3:06:20Fuller sadly failed to qualify for the final and ended up with a pretty

3:06:20 > 3:06:25battered face as well. Less than two years after shattering her kneecap

3:06:25 > 3:06:29into eight pieces, British ice dancer Penny Coomes and a partner

3:06:29 > 3:06:34Nick Buckland finished an impressive tenth in today's short dance. It

3:06:34 > 3:06:38featured a world record from the Canadian duo of Tessa Virtue and

3:06:38 > 3:06:42Scott Meyer. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has opened an

3:06:42 > 3:06:50anti-doping case against a member of the Olympic Athletes from Russia

3:06:50 > 3:06:54team for curling who won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles.

3:06:54 > 3:06:58Lindsey Vonn have been going pretty well in training. She recorded the

3:06:58 > 3:07:02third fastest time and Austria 's Stephanie Venier eight lead the way

3:07:02 > 3:07:07in the training session ahead of the race on Wednesday. Mikaela Shiffrin

3:07:07 > 3:07:10was 15th pup fastest in training but she has not made a decision about

3:07:10 > 3:07:13whether she will complete and she went straight pass the quarters

3:07:13 > 3:07:16without answering any questions because her partner has been

3:07:16 > 3:07:21expelled from the games. The Frenchman made angry comments about

3:07:21 > 3:07:24his team after the giant slalom on Sunday and they have sent him home

3:07:24 > 3:07:29so were very unsettling time for Mikaela Shiffrin. Britain 's men in

3:07:29 > 3:07:33the curling kept their hopes alive with a dramatic 7-6 win over

3:07:33 > 3:07:39Denmark. It was great play from all of them, particular Kyle Smith.

3:07:39 > 3:07:43Canada 's Cassie Shah top qualified in the ski halfpipe. Team GB Rowan

3:07:43 > 3:07:49Cheshire has also progressed to the final thanks to a score of 74 points

3:07:49 > 3:07:53from her first run. That is great for her because she had a horrible

3:07:53 > 3:07:57time four years ago. What about Elise Christie? The latest news on

3:07:57 > 3:08:04is that she will undergo a fitness test tomorrow to see whether she can

3:08:04 > 3:08:08compete in the 1000 metres short track. This ball in the 1500 metres

3:08:08 > 3:08:14left her with damaged soft tissue. She bared her right ankle. The great

3:08:14 > 3:08:17British chef de mission said he is cautiously optimistic. She was on

3:08:17 > 3:08:21the ice today purely to see if she could put the boot on an skate

3:08:21 > 3:08:24around a bit and she will go through a training session tomorrow and if

3:08:24 > 3:08:27she comes through that and is still a big if then she will compete

3:08:27 > 3:08:31tomorrow evening. That is tomorrow morning our time. He said she

3:08:31 > 3:08:35absolutely wants to and if medically we are happy and it is clear then

3:08:35 > 3:08:48the decision will be hers to skate. Indications I have just got now is

3:08:48 > 3:08:50that she is very keen to skate so at 10am tomorrow morning our time we

3:08:50 > 3:08:53will find out and we will be going to see those qualifications for the

3:08:53 > 3:08:561000 metres, and that is the favourite event for Elise Christie

3:08:56 > 3:08:58so fingers crossed for her that she will be fit enough to get through

3:08:58 > 3:09:01the heat and then she has a couple more days to get ice on it and

3:09:01 > 3:09:04recovery time before the semifinals and the final. A slightly

3:09:04 > 3:09:07disappointing third run for the GB team men's bob but they could still

3:09:07 > 3:09:13be in the top ten. They absolutely can. It is a fantastic performance

3:09:13 > 3:09:17for Greg. We know that the format is the stronger event of the two, we

3:09:17 > 3:09:22know that for him. He got the classic mistake. Curve two is

3:09:22 > 3:09:25designed to throw everyone into though also they are constantly

3:09:25 > 3:09:29trying to overcome that issue and he got thrown into the wall and

3:09:29 > 3:09:32fortunately and it unsettled him and then it was scrappy all the way down

3:09:32 > 3:09:38the hill but he has the talent and we know with his started his

3:09:38 > 3:09:42physical ability as well as with the driving he will be great but top ten

3:09:42 > 3:09:46could be where he is that for these Olympics. They will be in reverse

3:09:46 > 3:09:49order for the fourth run and we catch up with that after the

3:09:49 > 3:09:55conclusion of the curling. It is 3-3, six and is about to start and

3:09:55 > 3:09:59what are you thinking right now?It is all good. We have last stone

3:09:59 > 3:10:03advantage here and corner up there so we can get a two.

3:10:03 > 3:10:06advantage here and corner up there so we can get a two.Good staff. The

3:10:06 > 3:10:13six and is under way so we rejoined Jackie Lockhart Steve Cram.

3:10:13 > 3:10:17Thank you. The first few stones are played, as you said, and a corner

3:10:17 > 3:10:20guard, the red stone for Great Britain is in place and they are

3:10:20 > 3:10:25just removing the other stone that was in the house. Try to roll that

3:10:25 > 3:10:31one in behind the yellow and not quite able to do so. With the hammer

3:10:31 > 3:10:35here. Eve Muirhead has been in fine form in this match, in fact both

3:10:35 > 3:10:40skips have been pretty good. Tirinzoni picking up a nice two with

3:10:40 > 3:10:45a super shot back in the third end after Britain had picked up a lovely

3:10:45 > 3:10:50two in the first end. Eve Muirhead with a scintillating shot just edged

3:10:50 > 3:10:56her own stone in the two. They have traded ones in the fourth and the

3:10:56 > 3:11:04fifth. The key was looking a little nonplussed there.I think she would

3:11:04 > 3:11:07really have liked a little hate and role there. She had the opportunity

3:11:07 > 3:11:11to go either way, probably behind the red would've been better. She

3:11:11 > 3:11:15might have only just been biting but it was an opportunity to have one

3:11:15 > 3:11:23hidden behind the guard. There was some chat from the team coach, Glen

3:11:23 > 3:11:26Howard, the women's coach, during halfway. We were allowed to listen

3:11:26 > 3:11:34in on a bit of it and he was saying don't get the guards to close. They

3:11:34 > 3:11:37have been getting them a bit close and there is a tendency to want to

3:11:37 > 3:11:42either tap and run the men so he is trying to get them to avoid doing

3:11:42 > 3:11:54that. I do not know what else you say, take your turn... It never

3:11:54 > 3:11:58works out that you take your two or you force your one. I cannot

3:11:58 > 3:12:03remember the last time I saw a game that went like that. That is what

3:12:03 > 3:12:06the strategy guide tells you to do by your opponents are constantly

3:12:06 > 3:12:10trying to outwit you. We will ignore the Swiss stone in the house because

3:12:10 > 3:12:15we want to try and set up a two here and we will try to utilise the

3:12:15 > 3:12:21corner guard we put on. This looks nice. It sits and is perfect. That

3:12:21 > 3:12:27is a well judged stone there.Just want to give you a quick update on

3:12:27 > 3:12:34what is happening elsewhere because it is relative -- relevant. Not so

3:12:34 > 3:12:39much Denmark against OAR but China US a are both on the same record as

3:12:39 > 3:12:45Great Britain after eight matches, three wins and three losses. USA are

3:12:45 > 3:12:49giving China curling lesson at the moment. It is 9-3 to the USA. That

3:12:49 > 3:12:55one might not go on too much longer. In the other match Japan and Sweden,

3:12:55 > 3:12:59Sweden are joint top with career with five wins, that one is 2-2

3:12:59 > 3:13:07after five ends in that one.

3:13:09 > 3:13:13This is going to hit. No Switzerland out of the way to do the job that

3:13:13 > 3:13:18they were asked to so there is the first mistake we were looking for.

3:13:18 > 3:13:22The red is now in their with the opportunity to hit the yellow and

3:13:22 > 3:13:30lie two Reds in the house. There is no need to do anything to dramatic

3:13:30 > 3:13:34here at this point. If you can pick up the two and get a mistake like

3:13:34 > 3:13:41that and then you have two in the house, one either side. You can

3:13:41 > 3:13:45start to look at building the opportunity. There is no need to get

3:13:45 > 3:13:48ahead of yourself.Yes, if you can easily play the simple shots and

3:13:48 > 3:13:54make them, that is the key here. What we have to be careful of is the

3:13:54 > 3:13:58two corner, there are two centre guards versus Whitson will be trying

3:13:58 > 3:14:06to hit our stones drop into the centre and use them as protection.

3:14:11 > 3:14:15Esther Neuenschwander has had an excellent game. She is 34 years old.

3:14:15 > 3:14:29An accountant. She has been working things out really nicely. Just buy.

3:14:29 > 3:14:37She gets a little run in behind that guard. A nice shot.

3:14:37 > 3:14:42That is a nice shot. Now we are questioning what we will actually do

3:14:42 > 3:14:52here.What was your first call? Here. Try and play the hit and roll

3:14:52 > 3:14:58at the centre. How worried they get in behind. You heard either saying

3:14:58 > 3:15:02exactly what Jackie was warning about. She doesn't really want them

3:15:02 > 3:15:08to get a stone in behind. There is another curling term. There is a

3:15:08 > 3:15:15stager, that I presume is because they are offset.Yes. We should have

3:15:15 > 3:15:19a little book.I will keep adding these words to my curling lexicon.

3:15:19 > 3:15:24Curling glossary.

3:15:28 > 3:15:31The curling glossary is big enough as it is without us adding

3:15:31 > 3:15:38additional words to it!Keep coming...Steady! Yeah, very well

3:15:38 > 3:15:43swept.

3:15:46 > 3:15:49swept.Anna has been looking a lot more settled in this match as well.

3:15:49 > 3:15:52She has had a bit of an up and down tournament. A thing after the loss

3:15:52 > 3:16:00to Sweden, I did an interview with the team, maybe it was just with

3:16:00 > 3:16:05herself and Eve, but she was saying, hide it not play well. All athletes

3:16:05 > 3:16:11do it but she sets high standards and she knows how important her role

3:16:11 > 3:16:17is to support Eve, give Eve the opportunities. When you start to

3:16:17 > 3:16:23build an end like this, don't give it away. The Britons still lying

3:16:23 > 3:16:31two, with the two skips to go now. It has been a real battle so far.

3:16:31 > 3:16:36There's the team stats. Britain doing well on the draw, Switzerland

3:16:36 > 3:16:42better on takeouts.

3:16:42 > 3:16:48better on takeouts. So, she just wants to hit and roll in behind

3:16:48 > 3:16:57those yellows. Maybe a bit thin, this. It's going to keep going.Lost

3:16:57 > 3:17:00that one there I think, they could have been sweeping on it more. But

3:17:00 > 3:17:04of course it's now desperately trying to get that hit and roll and

3:17:04 > 3:17:10sometimes you can leave a stone too much. So, opportunity back with us,

3:17:10 > 3:17:18it is just where to go. Normally, when you've got last stone, you want

3:17:18 > 3:17:22to have your stones one on either side, leave the 4ft open. But

3:17:22 > 3:17:28because these two

3:17:28 > 3:17:34because these two yellows are up, you're just worried that Tirinzoni

3:17:34 > 3:17:42is going to say, I'm just going to to come round.Isn't there a

3:17:42 > 3:17:47temptation for Eve to set up, not a trap but to try and sort of, you

3:17:47 > 3:17:51know, give her a tempting shot that she might not make when you're

3:17:51 > 3:17:56sitting two with the chance of three?Yeah, there is. This way I

3:17:56 > 3:18:03guess you could come around the front yellows first and as long as

3:18:03 > 3:18:07she had to try and move it there may be a chance that she flops of it and

3:18:07 > 3:18:12you do have that chance for the three. This way we're going out to

3:18:12 > 3:18:18the wing and we are leaving it open. The coach's advice was to make an

3:18:18 > 3:18:24easy two. They're going to try and bring this as far back as possible

3:18:24 > 3:18:32to make the hit and roll worthless. That's a good attempt. So, which one

3:18:32 > 3:18:37is she going to go for? She has the option of both, but I think if she

3:18:37 > 3:18:42is due to get a roll... No, she's going to go for I would have said

3:18:42 > 3:18:46the easy one of the two. She could go for the red on the right-hand

3:18:46 > 3:18:50side and hit it and move it across as a machine is higher up in the

3:18:50 > 3:19:03house. This one is behind the 4ft but she has chosen to go for this.

3:19:03 > 3:19:07To get a roll into a position which is going to count here, she's going

3:19:07 > 3:19:13to have to catch this just right. So, she is due to hit this kind of

3:19:13 > 3:19:19as she is looking at it, left of centre.

3:19:23 > 3:19:28centre. And then it just roll in, if she can. This is starting to turn a

3:19:28 > 3:19:32little bit. It's going to be pretty good, though. How far is that going

3:19:32 > 3:19:40to go? It goes out. Just a bit too hard. So, still lying shot and a

3:19:40 > 3:19:43little chuckle almost two herself to say, close! So, straightforward for

3:19:43 > 3:19:55Eve Muirhead here to draw in for the two. She's even got that... If she

3:19:55 > 3:19:59were a tad heavy, she has even got that yellow, depending on the line,

3:19:59 > 3:20:08as a backstop. But I'm sure we will see this pretty close to the 4ft

3:20:08 > 3:20:12from Eve Muirhead, looking in good form already this evening

3:20:12 > 3:20:13from Eve Muirhead, looking in good form already this evening. A few

3:20:13 > 3:20:17union Jacks being fluttered around the stands when the bit more sparse

3:20:17 > 3:20:24than normally, because Korea not playing this evening. The Korean

3:20:24 > 3:20:30women have set this competition alike with their play. Eve Muirhead,

3:20:30 > 3:20:34then, you can see that little left of the hand again, as she delivers

3:20:34 > 3:20:40the stone, making sure she has let go.

3:20:40 > 3:20:46go. They keep working this, just got to bring it in.Is this just going

3:20:46 > 3:20:52to stop? Keep working it, keep working it!Just gets a little nick,

3:20:52 > 3:20:57just enough.Well swept!Well done! That was a combination of good

3:20:57 > 3:21:01sweeping, perhaps not the best shot laid out thereby Eve Muirhead, but

3:21:01 > 3:21:06it was enough. And the flags starts to fly. The families are in tonight,

3:21:06 > 3:21:09the British contingent, and they will be enjoying what is now seeing

3:21:09 > 3:21:14so far. Great Britain pick up their two and after six ends, they lead

3:21:14 > 3:21:175-3 over Switzerland, a match they really have to win to give

3:21:17 > 3:21:19themselves a good opportunity of making it through into the

3:21:19 > 3:21:27semifinals. That made me feel a bit better and I think is now playing

3:21:27 > 3:21:33pretty well. It is settled and calm, Eve's making good shots...?

3:21:33 > 3:21:36Definitely I'm seeing a much more confident team out there today, for

3:21:36 > 3:21:42sure. Even a couple of times when Switzerland have asked a question of

3:21:42 > 3:21:46us, we've actually answered it, we've put the freezes on when

3:21:46 > 3:21:50necessary, so really impressed by the girls' play. May be that little

3:21:50 > 3:21:54incident yesterday has just been enough to shake them up and get them

3:21:54 > 3:21:59out here in top form which they need to be in.If you weren't with us

3:21:59 > 3:22:04earlier on, we heard Eve I think it was in the second end chuckling to

3:22:04 > 3:22:07her team-mates, saying, I let go of that stone about a metre before the

3:22:07 > 3:22:14hog line! After that stone when the red lights came on in that match

3:22:14 > 3:22:17against Sweden. Whether or not that stone would have made any

3:22:17 > 3:22:26difference, we don't know. But it may have done. Nonetheless, it was

3:22:26 > 3:22:31taken out of play, Britain lost that match, Sweden went on to five wins,

3:22:31 > 3:22:35and Britain found themselves in a situation with just three. So it's

3:22:35 > 3:22:39going to be a fight all of the way now, they really could do with

3:22:39 > 3:22:42winning all of the three matches they have left, this one included.

3:22:42 > 3:22:47The last match will be against Canada. That will be tough. Canada

3:22:47 > 3:22:51certainly beginning to find their form, Rachel Hollman, the skip,

3:22:51 > 3:23:01under an awful lot of pressure.

3:23:01 > 3:23:08under an awful lot of pressure. I'm looking down the ice, where is the

3:23:08 > 3:23:15score? Still 9-3 to the USA after six ends. That one must have been a

3:23:15 > 3:23:22blank. Sweden nosing in front of Japan, that looks like a tight one.

3:23:22 > 3:23:29And similarly, Denmark against OAR, Denmark pulled one back, it is now

3:23:29 > 3:23:385-4 in favour of OAR.

3:23:38 > 3:23:435-4 in favour of OAR. So, corner guard. Lauren Gray came in with her

3:23:43 > 3:23:47first stone.

3:23:50 > 3:23:57Go, go, go!

3:23:57 > 3:23:58Go, Vicki!

3:24:01 > 3:24:06It has got to come right into the house. That was a bit short, she

3:24:06 > 3:24:09really needed to be on the centreline, and probably in the

3:24:09 > 3:24:2212ft, which is turquoise in the circle there.Aquamarine, even!

3:24:22 > 3:24:33Well, that's quite nice colour, yeah.

3:24:33 > 3:24:38So, they're going to try and use this corner guard now to get this

3:24:38 > 3:24:42yellow behind, try and bury it right in behind there. They of course want

3:24:42 > 3:24:46to try and create their situation. No legs on this one, either. Just

3:24:46 > 3:24:51about enough.

3:24:54 > 3:24:59How often would the ice change in the duration of a match? Would you

3:24:59 > 3:25:05sense that?To be honest, sometimes you will sense the ice change in the

3:25:05 > 3:25:10latter stages of a game and it could well be that we are on seven... The

3:25:10 > 3:25:15pebble starts to come off and it gets a little bit flat, so when that

3:25:15 > 3:25:18happens it is harder, you've got to put a little bit more weight on it

3:25:18 > 3:25:26because it has got

3:25:26 > 3:25:28because it has got less pebbly service to run on. But the girls

3:25:28 > 3:25:32will be clocking the weight all the way through. She is constantly

3:25:32 > 3:25:36keeping an eye on the weight so that she can make adjustments as to how

3:25:36 > 3:25:40much I saw how little ice she will give her team. That is a good effort

3:25:40 > 3:25:49from Vicki Adams. -- as to how much ice or how little ice she will give

3:25:49 > 3:25:57her team. As you're probably aware, in curling, the hammer, the last

3:25:57 > 3:26:02stone advantage, it is not a bad idea to have it in the sixth, eighth

3:26:02 > 3:26:06and tenth, the even ends, if the scoring does go with the hammer.

3:26:06 > 3:26:12That is Britain's favour at the moment.Yeah, it would be really

3:26:12 > 3:26:16nice if we could try and force Switzerland only to one here, and

3:26:16 > 3:26:23then have the hammer going into the eighth.

3:26:23 > 3:26:26eighth. The girls are playing well enough at the moment, so let's see

3:26:26 > 3:26:34how things go.That's a nice shot, just... That red goes out and they

3:26:34 > 3:26:40just help to sweep that stone across. Didn't quite get it over all

3:26:40 > 3:26:46away, so Eve can get to this.Yeah, that's a clever shot, is now trying

3:26:46 > 3:26:49to utilise the corner at every opportunity. So, at the moment

3:26:49 > 3:26:55they've got two yellows in behind there. They won't be worried at the

3:26:55 > 3:27:03moment. It is not about rushing to the centre. It's about placement.

3:27:13 > 3:27:17STEVE CRAM: Screaming down the ice, Eve Muirhead, the skip, asking them

3:27:17 > 3:27:21to keep working on it. They just had a little luck there, see how it was

3:27:21 > 3:27:27going. Just catches that one on the way. And they're easy to shift, by

3:27:27 > 3:27:32the looks of it. If that red moved a little further over it would have

3:27:32 > 3:27:39been better but you can see, she's got a clear line into it. As Jackie

3:27:39 > 3:27:42was saying, that sort of looks good at this point from a British aspect

3:27:42 > 3:27:50if, two in there.Yeah, but if Switzerland play this stone well, we

3:27:50 > 3:27:54could be lying three again. -- British perspective. That is the

3:27:54 > 3:27:58whole strategy of this game. The Swiss team really wanted to put the

3:27:58 > 3:28:01corners on so that if they get the opportunity to give the centre

3:28:01 > 3:28:07shots, then they will do.So, Manuela Siegrist, who normally would

3:28:07 > 3:28:11be playing third, has been moved down to second, and just picks one

3:28:11 > 3:28:17out. That's not bad.

3:28:18 > 3:28:20out. That's not bad. Sitting in a fortuitous position for Great

3:28:20 > 3:28:23Britain here.I thought she might have played a little bit heavier

3:28:23 > 3:28:27weight to that to try and remove both of them. But what she's done

3:28:27 > 3:28:35now is left double here for Great Britain.

3:28:39 > 3:28:45That double, down to Anna Sloan. Yeah, those big Lou eyes of Anna

3:28:45 > 3:28:53Sloan watching intently here. Has been playing well tonight, just not

3:28:53 > 3:29:06catching that right, though. Little apology to her skip.

3:29:07 > 3:29:12So, Tirinzoni just deciding how she is deal this to develop. She will

3:29:12 > 3:29:18wants to respond with her two.

3:29:19 > 3:29:20wants to respond with her two.Yeah, she has to get this red on the

3:29:20 > 3:29:25right-hand side and maybe get in behind her yellow corners, because

3:29:25 > 3:29:36if she tries to go the other way she's going to jam it on her own.

3:29:39 > 3:29:44Yep, that's the call.Yeah, going the other way. Just coming up to

3:29:44 > 3:29:51have a look, Neuenschwander, to see what it looks like - it always looks

3:29:51 > 3:29:55different from the other end. Manuela Siegrist, who used to play

3:29:55 > 3:30:01these shots, will be in third. Hasn't been playing too badly. It is

3:30:01 > 3:30:03actually the lead, Marlene Albrecht, who has got the worst of their

3:30:03 > 3:30:07stats. But Esther Neuenschwander, last couple of ends, hasn't been

3:30:07 > 3:30:10quite so accurate.

3:30:19 > 3:30:28A little look of puzzlement. It has all gone quiet. Very quiet. I don't

3:30:28 > 3:30:35know why. It just catches enough of it. That has been pushed out into a

3:30:35 > 3:30:40better position for Great Britain. It slid over. It is still counting

3:30:40 > 3:30:44and it is also behind that red that is out in front.

3:30:51 > 3:30:59The girls are lying in one shot at the moment but hoping to take this

3:30:59 > 3:31:05yellow out wide as well to put pressure on Switzerland. There

3:31:05 > 3:31:09little half shots, that one promised Esther Neuenschwander, and things

3:31:09 > 3:31:18just changed slightly again. This needs to be good though. This could

3:31:18 > 3:31:35be good. Nicely played. It just hangs on there.

3:31:36 > 3:31:40You always know when Anna is happy. You no she was has a big smile on

3:31:40 > 3:31:47her face. Exactly. I think she should be. This team are working

3:31:47 > 3:31:53well together tonight. A long way to go to win this but I think the main

3:31:53 > 3:31:58thing is just keep the pressure on the opposition, just keep asking

3:31:58 > 3:32:04them to make shots and make it more difficult shots and the pressure

3:32:04 > 3:32:08will obviously tell. This is a match that Switzerland must win. If they

3:32:08 > 3:32:12do not win this their chances of staying in the competition or

3:32:12 > 3:32:17certainly of advancing to the semifinals is pretty much gone. They

3:32:17 > 3:32:20would have had five defeats. They have had four so far and just two

3:32:20 > 3:32:26wins. They are a good team. This is well tight and it will catch the

3:32:26 > 3:32:34garden tap afternoon. We have three in there now.

3:32:36 > 3:32:41in there now. The Swiss stone stayed out in front as well. It is fairly

3:32:41 > 3:32:49clear but with all of these red stones in their...If we go here, I

3:32:49 > 3:32:53don't like leaving a triple. What if we tell to hear? We can't stop

3:32:53 > 3:33:00everything.Almost spoiled for choice to some extent. Two or three

3:33:00 > 3:33:06stones ago you would not have seen this situation developing.Better

3:33:06 > 3:33:13leaving her triple Dunleavy Jerez three. -- freeze. -- better leaving

3:33:13 > 3:33:20her a triple banner leaving her a freeze. Leave it further than that.

3:33:20 > 3:33:25Always make a very good point. It is absolutely fine to say, what if I

3:33:25 > 3:33:29come right there? If you get right there it is a brilliant shot but

3:33:29 > 3:33:32there was always in the back of your mind that what if you go a little

3:33:32 > 3:33:39bit short or long the? What then? What happens then? What is the best?

3:33:39 > 3:33:44I think she wants to be in the house, she doesn't want it to be too

3:33:44 > 3:33:48short and actually what Vicki said isn't a bad call, why don't you just

3:33:48 > 3:33:51leave her the triple because at the moment I don't think she is capable

3:33:51 > 3:33:55of playing it but then you might kick yourself if she makes it but

3:33:55 > 3:34:00you have to assume that your opposition are going to make the

3:34:00 > 3:34:03shot so try and make it as difficult as possible or leave them the shot

3:34:03 > 3:34:09that they don't want to play.I think also at the beginning of the

3:34:09 > 3:34:13end you might say to yourself, give them the one, the forced one, and

3:34:13 > 3:34:19that is a great result but obviously this is developing into...If we

3:34:19 > 3:34:23want to force the one then we have to come into the house. If we are

3:34:23 > 3:34:26too high then we leave them the opportunity of maybe coming and

3:34:26 > 3:34:34freezing.This is coming all the way. Tier too far. That was my

3:34:34 > 3:34:37point, if you play for whatever reason, and that is a bit of a

3:34:37 > 3:34:40surprise because Eve was playing very well, and now there is a bit of

3:34:40 > 3:34:44a nest there and she has the option to come right on top of that if she

3:34:44 > 3:34:48wanted to. She has got two stones left so she is trying to manipulate

3:34:48 > 3:34:56a position where she is lying shot and hopefully that then cannot be

3:34:56 > 3:35:02improved upon. You need a bitter separation.We have just made it a

3:35:02 > 3:35:09lot easier for Switzerland now. Anywhere in the 12 foot or that

3:35:09 > 3:35:13white part of the circle, the eight foot, was where we wanted to be but

3:35:13 > 3:35:22that ran about six foot more than it was needing to.It is frustrating.

3:35:22 > 3:35:25It is saying their 100% accuracy on the drawers as well. She has played

3:35:25 > 3:35:32a couple of nice shots, more than a couple, but let's see if she is 100%

3:35:32 > 3:35:39here. She is a big target to aim at, those two red stones.

3:35:39 > 3:35:44those two red stones. It is still turning and it might just catch one.

3:35:44 > 3:35:48It is looking like a good shot. Is it over? No, she is a good shot

3:35:48 > 3:35:54there. They are just seeing if there is any movement there. It is

3:35:54 > 3:35:59possible if she sits on top of it. What you want to do here is prevent

3:35:59 > 3:36:03the two by almost freezing on top of that so your stone cannot be moved.

3:36:03 > 3:36:09Essentially what Tirinzoni has done their...Right on the face of it,

3:36:09 > 3:36:12right on the nose because if you are off angle at all she is just going

3:36:12 > 3:36:19to hit them and the yellow will stay.

3:36:21 > 3:36:25stay.Here is what is going to happen here, the worse that is going

3:36:25 > 3:36:30to happen is they would get two and we will get tied up. She could get

3:36:30 > 3:36:35one or we could steal. Anything could happen in the next two

3:36:35 > 3:36:42minutes.Tony never smiles at all down there. He's the national coach

3:36:42 > 3:36:47and he's just sitting there with his arms folded. He is very stern.Your

3:36:47 > 3:36:50absolute right, I've seen walking around at night any prowls around

3:36:50 > 3:36:55the eyes when they are sending the stones down and it is a bit scary.

3:36:55 > 3:36:59Glen and Kelly have a much more... Actually, you are not really paying

3:36:59 > 3:37:03attention to your coaches on the bench but you definitely want to

3:37:03 > 3:37:06have them looking like they are interested in the game and they look

3:37:06 > 3:37:12confident.This has got a chance. She is saying it is a big heavy and

3:37:12 > 3:37:19it will bounce off.Looks like a nice stone.Bring it in, all the

3:37:19 > 3:37:25way, bring it right in.That is a fantastic shot. That is a cracker

3:37:25 > 3:37:29from E.That is a brilliant shot from Eve Muirhead. She has played

3:37:29 > 3:37:35three or four already in this match and making life very difficult for

3:37:35 > 3:37:43Tirinzoni.Her mum and her uncle are all standing up and waving

3:37:52 > 3:37:55the British flag up there, that is great. They have got a great view,

3:37:55 > 3:37:58they are right above the house at that end. Just a little nudge back

3:37:58 > 3:38:00and it sits shot. It has got that yellow, of course, captain there but

3:38:00 > 3:38:03it means that British red cannot really be shifted there. That is

3:38:03 > 3:38:06going to jam up against the yellow. What is she trying to do here? Does

3:38:06 > 3:38:11she think she can move it a bit? Yes, she's going to try and trace

3:38:11 > 3:38:15and granite down at this and try and spin the read out to the right-hand

3:38:15 > 3:38:20side. She might lose her shooter though, we will see what happens.

3:38:20 > 3:38:25Tirinzoni trying to respond here. A great spot -- shot from Eve

3:38:25 > 3:38:30Muirhead. Does she have enough business? Bullets bring that out?

3:38:30 > 3:38:38She has. Goodness me!Wonderful shot, my goodness. She hit that

3:38:38 > 3:38:43sweet as not. Two to Switzerland despite the efforts of Eve Muirhead,

3:38:43 > 3:38:48a superb response from the Swiss skip.We are all tied up again, two

3:38:48 > 3:38:57for them in the seventh end and it is 5-5. Get your two, get your two,

3:38:57 > 3:39:00says Eve. We have a great match, very similar this match to the one

3:39:00 > 3:39:05which the men played against Denmark this morning, actually this

3:39:05 > 3:39:12afternoon, excuse me. I never get outside, I never know if it is night

3:39:12 > 3:39:24or morning! Lights are always on at the curling. That was a great shot.

3:39:24 > 3:39:28Yes, that was two really nice stones by both skips and at hopefully that

3:39:28 > 3:39:32has not knocked the wind out of the sails of Team GB because I thought

3:39:32 > 3:39:36we were looking really good having sat that Stone right at the front.

3:39:36 > 3:39:40Eve played a cracker but Tirinzoni followed it up with a wonderful shot

3:39:40 > 3:39:47to get two.Yes, this is turning into the battle of the skips here,

3:39:47 > 3:39:51both of them are playing very well. Both teams are trying to help to set

3:39:51 > 3:39:52things up.

3:39:57 > 3:40:00Marlene Albrecht is the lead for Switzerland and we move into the

3:40:00 > 3:40:07eight sending Britain the hammer. Scores elsewhere, USA are now 10-3

3:40:07 > 3:40:15up against China and Sweden are 3-2 up against Japan and OAR are almost

3:40:15 > 3:40:24a dead rubber really that one, OAR in Denmark 5-4. That is to OAR.

3:40:30 > 3:40:34You can see the difference between the two leads there, that is a

3:40:34 > 3:40:36decent shot that Marlene Albrecht play this time but it has been

3:40:36 > 3:40:40Lauren Gray who has been more consistent, is looking to put up a

3:40:40 > 3:40:47corner guard here. Set this eighth end up nicely.Lines good.Lines

3:40:47 > 3:40:56really good. Hard, and.Nice, Lauren.

3:41:02 > 3:41:07Nice, Lauren. That was a nice shot from Lauren Gray. It is worked

3:41:07 > 3:41:17really hard to get it covered and that Freegard 's own area.

3:41:17 > 3:41:21Switzerland put a short guard on to start with and now they are going to

3:41:21 > 3:41:29try and come around it. This actually if it comes into far will

3:41:29 > 3:41:34come at the other side. There was a huge swing there and it has done

3:41:34 > 3:41:39just that.Yes, she has struggled a little bit, the Swiss lead. Her team

3:41:39 > 3:41:43haven't suffered too much because of that but she is definitely playing

3:41:43 > 3:41:50one good one and one in different one. Lauren Gray has been much more

3:41:50 > 3:41:56consistent.

3:42:07 > 3:42:14Hard. Hard. Harder! She's to get past that God and then... She

3:42:14 > 3:42:22doesn't get the rolling but takes that one out. Great Britain have the

3:42:22 > 3:42:27hammer here and they just want to try and build this situation. When

3:42:27 > 3:42:31you get down to the eighth and ninth and tenth ends there was always the

3:42:31 > 3:42:34option of blanking in or two.

3:42:38 > 3:42:43You reach a point in any of these ends where that is not a

3:42:43 > 3:42:49possibility, depending on how the stones go.

3:42:49 > 3:42:57stones go.Nobody getting the role. No.They are going to keep trying.

3:42:57 > 3:43:02Just easy.

3:43:02 > 3:43:05Just easy.So the eighth end is all tied up and it all looks very even

3:43:05 > 3:43:09here as Eve Muirhead knows she has a lot of work to do but plenty of

3:43:09 > 3:43:13opportunities still to come. Three ends left.

3:43:13 > 3:43:18Ten ends total and if the score is still tied after ten they will play

3:43:18 > 3:43:22an extra end. This is a must win game per Great Britain against

3:43:22 > 3:43:26Switzerland. It is very tight to decide who will be the last ball

3:43:26 > 3:43:30teams left in those four will go through to the semifinals and the

3:43:30 > 3:43:32medal deciding matches for the curling but join us for the

3:43:32 > 3:43:36conclusion of this over on BBC Two because he on BBC One we are heading

3:43:36 > 3:43:45to the news. More curling and more Bob as well on BBC Two.
