0:00:36 > 0:00:39Hello, this is the Asian age of the Olympics.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43Tokyo's 2020 Summer Games are coming sharply into focus.

0:00:43 > 0:00:50Then, before you know it, it'll be Beijing 2022

0:00:50 > 0:00:51for the next winter's.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53We're beginning to look ahead, because things are coming

0:00:53 > 0:00:55to an end in Pyeongchang.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57This is the penultimate day of South Korea's Winter Games.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Only 12 golds remain unclaimed.

0:01:00 > 0:01:05Eight of them will be won on this final Saturday.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07And there were records to be set for Great Britain,

0:01:07 > 0:01:12with a record fifth medal in total on the line.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16Forget about the fear factor, that's what Britain's Billy Morgan

0:01:16 > 0:01:18aimed to do in the big air snowboarding final.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22Land two massive jumps, and he was in with a medal shout.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25From snowboard trickery to straight line speed.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Racing suits and racing boards required in the

0:01:27 > 0:01:28parallel giant slalom.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Men's and women's events today.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35And there's head-to-head racing on skis as well.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37The brand-new alpine team event.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38Two side-by-side courses, two skiers at a time.

0:01:38 > 0:01:39One finish line.

0:01:39 > 0:01:45And one collective gold.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Get ready for the rumble, as the four-man bobs roar into action.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Four sprinters riding on four all-important runners

0:01:50 > 0:01:56as they ride the ice flume.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00No silver lining or a shot at gold for Eve Muirhead and her team

0:02:00 > 0:02:02but they were back, determined to win a second bronze

0:02:02 > 0:02:09today against Japan.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11The last of the judged snowboarding events today.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13And many will feel we've saved the best till last,

0:02:13 > 0:02:14the men's big air.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16New for 2018 and it's been a big hit.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Not least with Britain's Billy Morgan, the 28-year-old

0:02:18 > 0:02:19in his second Games.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22A former roofer, Billy is one of the true free spirits

0:02:22 > 0:02:26in the British team.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29He lives and loves the free sports lifestyle.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32He'll freely admit he loves to party, and he's been freewheeling

0:02:32 > 0:02:33around the athletes' village.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Now, he didn't make the slopestyle final in Pyeongchang.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37But away from the Olympics, the Southampton rider has been

0:02:37 > 0:02:40setting new standards in this big air format which has

0:02:40 > 0:02:43been on the scene at the X Games for many years.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45In fact, he's led the way in some of the huge tricks

0:02:45 > 0:02:49these guys perform.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52And he was one of the 12 men who qualified for today's final,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54watched by Ed Leigh and Tim Warwood.

0:02:54 > 0:03:02watched by Ed Leigh and Tim Warwood.

0:03:03 > 0:03:09The British and now cheering and, yes, this is good news, Billy Morgan

0:03:09 > 0:03:16took a big hit in training so the fact he is up here is good news.

0:03:16 > 0:03:21Hamish McKnight and his team-mate next to him. Billy just watching the

0:03:21 > 0:03:28flags. He made it through with immaculate and huge tricks and that

0:03:28 > 0:03:36is what he wants to land now. Picking up a lot of speed into the

0:03:36 > 0:03:40first jump, backside triple cork, it is massive. He couldn't hold it.

0:03:40 > 0:03:50Huge. Backside triple cork with the nose grab. He was clinging to that

0:03:50 > 0:03:56with his fingernails. He really was. Absolutely huge and

0:03:56 > 0:04:05now the pressure is on. He landed on the bottom line.

0:04:06 > 0:04:1330 points, Billy Morgan has it all to do on his final two jumps.

0:04:13 > 0:04:19Toutant has been in the game for more than a decade, so strong. The

0:04:19 > 0:04:23Canadian, 25, considered a veteran but he can ride everything. He has

0:04:23 > 0:04:32had Street rail parks, but of late he has been eclipsed in the Canadian

0:04:32 > 0:04:35team by Max Parrot and Mark McMorris.

0:04:35 > 0:04:42Switch, front side, 1620! The first rider to properly send it deep into

0:04:42 > 0:04:52the landing. That is very, very nice. That is huge. Seb Toutant has

0:04:52 > 0:04:59put himself very much in the running for this, a massive trick to punch

0:04:59 > 0:05:03out. 84.75, the judges leaving themselves

0:05:03 > 0:05:06somewhere to go.

0:05:09 > 0:05:17The Norwegian Torgeir Bergrem, we watched him yesterday, sniffing

0:05:17 > 0:05:22around Max Parrot's trick and he took a huge hit from the landing,

0:05:22 > 0:05:31landing on his face. Winding up the backside 1620.A huge trick.Look at

0:05:31 > 0:05:43the Norwegians.Here's the Ryan Giggs of snowboarding, rightly --

0:05:43 > 0:05:46beautifully skilful. Keeping the board pretty much straight on

0:05:46 > 0:05:51take-off, the judges will like that, using the grab rails on the board to

0:05:51 > 0:06:01full effect, he is happy.88.5, first place, deservedly so.

0:06:01 > 0:06:13Back to the top and this man is the king of big air.

0:06:15 > 0:06:23The Canadian dropping in forwards. Backside triple cork 1620.

0:06:23 > 0:06:30That was a work of art.It was huge and it was clean. Take a look there

0:06:30 > 0:06:35where he has done the whole trick on the take-off. He grabs, he's not

0:06:35 > 0:06:42working or fighting it, the whole trick is done on that take-off. That

0:06:42 > 0:06:49180 looks like it is part of the trick.Max Parrot, we know he has

0:06:49 > 0:06:56the cab in the bag and 85 this. He now two goes.

0:06:56 > 0:07:09Bergrem in first. Two Canadians and a Norwegian.

0:07:09 > 0:07:17Billy is under pressure now, he has worked so hard to get here, he was

0:07:17 > 0:07:20kept off his board a month before these games tearing a cruciate

0:07:20 > 0:07:29ligament. Massive again.He holds it up, yes.

0:07:29 > 0:07:34It was huge. He put the nose grab, the hardest grab, yes, Billy.

0:07:34 > 0:07:42Really nice.A huge triple cork. If the judges reward in size they have

0:07:42 > 0:07:52to give him a big present for that one. My goodness.

0:07:53 > 0:08:03Relief.

0:08:04 > 0:08:14Billy Morgan has a serious shot now. Next in, Sebastien Toutant. The

0:08:14 > 0:08:21Canadian is sat on a very powerful 84.7 five.

0:08:21 > 0:08:28A bit of breathing room here. And I think it is fair to say this kid is

0:08:28 > 0:08:35a video game snowboarder. Backside again here.

0:08:36 > 0:08:41again here.Backside 1620. How did he hold on, it was like a rodeo

0:08:41 > 0:08:50clown! Huge. A huge second hit for the man from Quebec. He looked like

0:08:50 > 0:08:56he was hanging onto a palomino in a rodeo somehow that toe edge kept in

0:08:56 > 0:09:03contact with the snow. That is very precious.

0:09:04 > 0:09:1389.5. That puts him in a very strong position.

0:09:13 > 0:09:19I want to see this boy do well, Kyle mac. A powerhouse. He is so mostly

0:09:19 > 0:09:27he even sinks in saltwater!

0:09:36 > 0:09:43Come on, Kyle mac. He already has the backside 1440.

0:09:43 > 0:09:53Oh, no exclamation mark

0:09:53 > 0:09:57Oh, no exclamation mark that is a bloody Dracula. That is the name of

0:09:57 > 0:10:02the grab.

0:10:03 > 0:10:10the grab. Four full rotations, both hands back on the tail. Not massive.

0:10:10 > 0:10:18But we saw what happened stepping out of the ordinary and pulling off

0:10:18 > 0:10:22a different grab in Sochi and it dominated slopestyle. I think Kyle

0:10:22 > 0:10:28Mack can do the same will stop this will push close to 90.

0:10:28 > 0:10:3686.7 five. Two big scores, second at the moment.

0:10:36 > 0:10:43Max Parrot, an incredible work ethic, the second man after Billy

0:10:43 > 0:10:49Morgan to land a quad cork. Being accused of lacking style at times.

0:10:49 > 0:10:56But suddenly he addressed that. Will we see the cab 1800, look how much

0:10:56 > 0:11:05speed, the switch here, is it -- is this it? Oh, no, he has gone.He has

0:11:05 > 0:11:08added hundreds of those in training and suddenly everything is wide

0:11:08 > 0:11:14open. If he had landed it in the final was put to bed. We have got

0:11:14 > 0:11:19that lovely finish, suddenly into the boil because we have that lovely

0:11:19 > 0:11:30finish where the pressure is really on Max Parrot.

0:11:32 > 0:11:38That is like 20 grit sandpaper. These are the standings.

0:11:45 > 0:11:51Billy Morgan, I think, will go for the frontside 1440 triple cork and

0:11:51 > 0:11:56if he lands this he is well within the medals scores but remember Billy

0:11:56 > 0:12:01is the second of 12 to drop here in the third and final jumps of men's

0:12:01 > 0:12:06big air. We know the whole of Southampton is

0:12:06 > 0:12:11watching this. They have rented the Sports Centre, there will be a big

0:12:11 > 0:12:15crowd cheering billy on here and he needs to go absolutely

0:12:15 > 0:12:19stratospheric. Not something he struggles with.

0:12:19 > 0:12:23Come on, Billy Morgan, frontside triple 14.

0:12:23 > 0:12:33Double grab. Yes! Billy Morgan with a double grab frontside triple 14,

0:12:33 > 0:12:40that is massive.Absolutely huge. My goodness.He had asked all

0:12:40 > 0:12:44scared. His land in practice, dropped his first jump, and has

0:12:44 > 0:12:49delivered second and third jump. This is very precious. The double

0:12:49 > 0:12:57grab, grabbing the tail grab and the mute on that. The judges will love

0:12:57 > 0:13:06it. Look how deep it is.One line, two lines. Beautiful, standing up.

0:13:06 > 0:13:12Yes, Billy Morgan.

0:13:14 > 0:13:1985.5, Billy Morgan moves into bronze medal position. A very long and

0:13:19 > 0:13:25nervous wait for the man from Southampton.

0:13:25 > 0:13:32This man is in a very end you'll position of sitting up top with one

0:13:32 > 0:13:38jump to spare. Where is Sebastien Toutant going to take this third and

0:13:38 > 0:13:43final jump? How about this, Ed, not one jump in

0:13:43 > 0:13:48the 90s in the first two. The judges were leaving plenty in reserve.

0:13:48 > 0:13:56Would you trust Chris Corning having added two would try a chord? He was

0:13:56 > 0:14:03chucking them in practice. For a laugh. Here we go. Dropping in

0:14:03 > 0:14:12switch. He tried to tidy up that first. The

0:14:12 > 0:14:19cab 16. Just by going even bigger, he wanted to add to that 84.7 five.

0:14:19 > 0:14:27This would be such a huge result for Toutant. If you look at his results

0:14:27 > 0:14:32it was only on the Quebec slopes last year that he won.

0:14:32 > 0:14:42That looked like visualisation of the quad cork.We have been saying

0:14:42 > 0:14:47this jump is too small to see here. He is starting right back. It looks

0:14:47 > 0:14:54like...Surely not.

0:14:55 > 0:15:01This will be history right here. First Olympic quad... It will be the

0:15:01 > 0:15:08first quad in competition.I think he's going. I've never seen him this

0:15:08 > 0:15:17site.He's coming forwards, he's going to have to rip this so hard...

0:15:17 > 0:15:30He nearly made it to! Oh my goodness. The backside quad cork

0:15:30 > 0:15:33makes its appearance at the Olympics. We've been talking about

0:15:33 > 0:15:38it since day one of the slopestyle and we finally see it. Chris Corning

0:15:38 > 0:15:42has been building his entire career around the idea he's going to come

0:15:42 > 0:15:46to the Olympics and land a quad cork and then the jump is too small when

0:15:46 > 0:15:54he gets here. Has that stopped him? He's ripped it there. Wow. Full

0:15:54 > 0:16:00credit to this man. He dips late their...He actually gets it down,

0:16:00 > 0:16:10he only needed a tiny, tiny bit more.Chris Corning has spent

0:16:10 > 0:16:20physics. -- spent physics next in is Kyle Mack, currently in silver medal

0:16:20 > 0:16:26position. An improvement of his jump which scored 82, if he can bump that

0:16:26 > 0:16:36up... He's going to need and 87. He can pull this up to an 87 or higher,

0:16:36 > 0:16:41then he can move into gold medal position.I don't think you're going

0:16:41 > 0:16:50to see a 1440 in the 80s.He either needs a 16 or he needs a grab that

0:16:50 > 0:16:55is truly out of this world. With the bloody Dracula on his front side 14

0:16:55 > 0:17:01I think we seen as high as that can go.Going to try and tidy up this

0:17:01 > 0:17:09backside... Backside triple caucus, nearly ran to 18.What? A 1620

0:17:09 > 0:17:17Japan.I think he was trying to take that round to 1800 by the looks of

0:17:17 > 0:17:28it.I'm looking down... Right now, of all the riders left to drop, Mark

0:17:28 > 0:17:31McMorris have dropped their first jumps. There's only one man left a

0:17:31 > 0:17:44drop who can knock everyone out. Mack is guaranteed silver and Kyle

0:17:44 > 0:17:53Mack is guaranteed bronze. Billy Morgan can only get blasted by Max

0:17:53 > 0:17:59Parrot.The whole of the UK needs to watch this jump through their

0:17:59 > 0:18:04eyes... Of course they watch it through their eyes! The whole of the

0:18:04 > 0:18:08UK needs to watch this through their fingers. I'm so torn between my

0:18:08 > 0:18:13friend in bronze medal position and one of the best snowboarders in the

0:18:13 > 0:18:18world about to try and do business here on this big edge on.The

0:18:18 > 0:18:24hardest trick we'll see on this jump to date after Chris Corning's

0:18:24 > 0:18:28attempt at the quad 1800.He's here for gold. He's not here anything

0:18:28 > 0:18:36else.

0:18:36 > 0:18:46else.Al Noor! He's gone! What? -- oh no! Max Parrot scales back his

0:18:46 > 0:18:55jump and Mrs! He's gone for gold and he's gone home with nothing. The

0:18:55 > 0:19:04medals are settled. We said it was a long shot but Billy Morgan,

0:19:04 > 0:19:11Southampton's finest snowboarder, will go home with a bronze medal. In

0:19:11 > 0:19:16exactly the same way that Jenny Jones worked so hard and was able to

0:19:16 > 0:19:21crown an impressive career with the glory of an Olympic medal, Billy

0:19:21 > 0:19:26Morgan has done exactly the same thing. The man who has pioneered so

0:19:26 > 0:19:32many tricks but really struggled for the core acceptance from the sport,

0:19:32 > 0:19:37has come and landed two breathtaking tricks under pressure to take a

0:19:37 > 0:19:42silver medal. The story isn't so different for Kyle Mack in gold

0:19:42 > 0:19:47medal position -- Seb Toutant in gold-medal position. It's a lovely

0:19:47 > 0:19:53seeing Canada and America matched very, very closely by Britain. One

0:19:53 > 0:19:57of the minnows in snowboarding but in Billy Morgan, we have one of the

0:19:57 > 0:20:04most courageous and pioneering snowboarders. He's earned his reward

0:20:04 > 0:20:09here at the first-ever big air in Korea. A bronze medal,

0:20:09 > 0:20:18congratulations Billy. Billy Morgan, you legend!What a wild ride that

0:20:18 > 0:20:24was!What are you thinking right this second?I don't know, it's

0:20:24 > 0:20:28wild. I had such a bad training and I fell on the first. I thought it

0:20:28 > 0:20:33was game over. I was thinking I hope I don't fall over three times and

0:20:33 > 0:20:38everyone will be devastated. All my mates are at home watching and I

0:20:38 > 0:20:43thought, I'm going to fall over three times! That was your mind

0:20:43 > 0:20:49saying that!I thought if I land one jump I'll be stoked. I did to!The

0:20:49 > 0:20:53first one was so deep and we saw you do that crash. The second one

0:20:53 > 0:20:58landed, what were you thinking going into the third?I didn't land one of

0:20:58 > 0:21:05them in practice. I had a sore bum. Hamish was like go slower and time

0:21:05 > 0:21:10it right. I landed and I was like... I didn't know what to do.Has it

0:21:10 > 0:21:15sunk in that you worry bronze medallist, Billy?I'm sure it will

0:21:15 > 0:21:18hit me later. I never expected it. If you come in thinking you're

0:21:18 > 0:21:23shooting for a medal, you're ready for it. But I just didn't.Two weeks

0:21:23 > 0:21:28ago would you have thought that with your knee injury? No. I said a lot

0:21:28 > 0:21:32of interviews I would be stoked if I make the finals in either. Happy

0:21:32 > 0:21:39days!STUDIO: To time Olympic snowboarder Ben Kilner has been

0:21:39 > 0:21:44beaming all morning.

0:21:44 > 0:21:49A real breakthrough in so many respects for Billy Morgan.

0:21:49 > 0:21:53Billy has helped the whole nation. The kids that get inspired by this

0:21:53 > 0:21:57will come flooding in. I'm sure they will be pestering their parents to

0:21:57 > 0:22:02take them to the local snow dome. It's massive. Hopefully we'll see a

0:22:02 > 0:22:11lot coming from it.And up into the Highlands as well.

0:22:11 > 0:22:12lot coming from it.And up into the Highlands as well.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14But, he thought he'd blown his chance.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16You've got to land two jumps in this final.

0:22:16 > 0:22:18He didn't do it on his first run.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21Tell us about the quality of his last two efforts here?

0:22:21 > 0:22:24He's gone for the backside triple core. He fell on this trick on the

0:22:24 > 0:22:29first run adding way more pressure to these next two runs. You can

0:22:29 > 0:22:33obviously see how delighted he is coming into it. He had a really hard

0:22:33 > 0:22:37training on the build-up to this event. He said in his interview that

0:22:37 > 0:22:42he had fallen a lot. He wasn't going into it with full confidence. I

0:22:42 > 0:22:48think he's attacked it this time, has put down backside triple 14 and

0:22:48 > 0:22:55a frontside triple 14. He delighted. No wonder. When you talk about his

0:22:55 > 0:23:00confidence in the air and you look at his back story, he was a gymnast.

0:23:00 > 0:23:05Acrobatics was a speciality of his. How big a role with that have

0:23:05 > 0:23:10plagued in his aerial confidence? -- played in his aerial confidence. He

0:23:10 > 0:23:15was even in the circus at one point. His background has done wonders.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19He's taken on the role where he helped the whole team get better in

0:23:19 > 0:23:26the gymnasium on trampolines. He's been such a valuable asset to the

0:23:26 > 0:23:32team.The character of the flight of this kicker that the big air guys

0:23:32 > 0:23:36actually achieved is completely different to the style we see in

0:23:36 > 0:23:40freestyle skiing aerials which is very much up come around and down.

0:23:40 > 0:23:43It's the forward propulsion, how does that change the character of

0:23:43 > 0:23:49the flight? When they are on the jump, they are probably clearing

0:23:49 > 0:23:53about 30 metres of distance before they are touching back down. When

0:23:53 > 0:24:00you're landing tricks like this with speed, you need to be so precise. If

0:24:00 > 0:24:06I use this teddy, if we land it at a diagonal angle, we catch our edges.

0:24:06 > 0:24:12We need to land perfectly straight in order to travel and keep going.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15That's exactly what he did and he got his reward shortly after because

0:24:15 > 0:24:22on the medal podium it was Billy Morgan. He has been a real pioneer,

0:24:22 > 0:24:28he was landing tricks no one had in 2015. In June 2015 we realised he

0:24:28 > 0:24:33would come into the Olympic Games. That is a record piece of precious

0:24:33 > 0:24:37metal not just for Billy but for the whole British team because it's a

0:24:37 > 0:24:43record fifth in the Olympics.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45record fifth in the Olympics. And a massive milestone for British snow

0:24:45 > 0:24:50sports.It's huge. I'm so happy for Billy and the whole team, all the

0:24:50 > 0:24:55guys behind the scenes who worked very hard. I know how hard Billy has

0:24:55 > 0:25:00worked with this.Was Sebastien Toutant the right winner for you?I

0:25:00 > 0:25:05think so. I think Max Parrot had the best betting odds but Sebastien

0:25:05 > 0:25:10Toutant has been the best of the date. And Kyle Mack pulling off the

0:25:10 > 0:25:15bloody Dracula.

0:25:15 > 0:25:1820 years ago in Nagano, the giant slalom which then became

0:25:18 > 0:25:20the parallel giant slalom was how it all started for snowboarding

0:25:20 > 0:25:27at the Olympics.

0:25:27 > 0:25:32In those days you were either a snowboarder or a skier. Frankly

0:25:32 > 0:25:36neither the twain shall meet.

0:25:36 > 0:25:38But the lines are blurring, big style in Pyeongchang.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41And in no small part due to Czech athlete Ester Ledecka who made

0:25:41 > 0:25:47history by competing in both disciplines in the same Games.

0:25:47 > 0:25:52She was attempting to become the first athlete to compete in both

0:25:52 > 0:25:56disciplines in the games.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58Because who could forget the astonished looks in the cream

0:25:58 > 0:26:01of the alpine world last Saturday when Ledecka, the Czech skiing

0:26:01 > 0:26:03snowboarder, hurtled down the mountain to snatch super-G gold

0:26:03 > 0:26:04by one hundredth of a second.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07She's the daughter of one of the Czech Republic's best

0:26:07 > 0:26:09loved folk-pop musicians, Janek Ledecka, but in that instant

0:26:09 > 0:26:13she became the global star.

0:26:13 > 0:26:18She couldn't believe it and neither could anybody else.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20Thereafter, the super-G champion chose not to race

0:26:20 > 0:26:22the women's downhill, again, unheard in the alpine world,

0:26:22 > 0:26:24instead getting ready to strap on a snowboard instead,

0:26:24 > 0:26:32in today's parallel giant slalom.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34She was one of the favourites to win this one as well.

0:26:34 > 0:26:41Watched by Graham Bell and Zoe Gillings-Brier.

0:26:48 > 0:26:52COMMENTATOR: Its Hofmeister against Ester Ledecka of the Czech Republic.

0:26:52 > 0:26:56Be winner of this race will go into the gold medal race and the loser

0:26:56 > 0:27:03into the bronze medal race.

0:27:03 > 0:27:05into the bronze medal race.Ester Ledecka can't be thinking about the

0:27:05 > 0:27:09final, she's got to keep the focus and the speed. This could be history

0:27:09 > 0:27:15in the making.

0:27:15 > 0:27:20in the making. It looks to me like the Germans got the lead. Hofmeister

0:27:20 > 0:27:27carrying more speed.

0:27:27 > 0:27:29carrying more speed. She managed to recover very well but lost a

0:27:29 > 0:27:36little...By back-to-back and they can't see each other so well. It

0:27:36 > 0:27:41looks to me

0:27:42 > 0:27:46looks to me like Ledecker has Billy... The German is down!

0:27:46 > 0:27:51Ledecker is through to the Olympic final. Is it going to be gold or

0:27:51 > 0:27:56silver? That's the question. Whatever happens, Ester Ledecka is

0:27:56 > 0:28:03eight double Olympic medallist. In both alpine skiing and in

0:28:03 > 0:28:11snowboarding.That is just outstanding.Who will Ledecker go up

0:28:11 > 0:28:21against? Will it be Ledecker of Germany?

0:28:22 > 0:28:28Germany? Zavarzina has been fast all day. Selina Joerg on the blue. Alina

0:28:28 > 0:28:39Zavarzina on the red. She is down and out!All Joerg has to do now is

0:28:39 > 0:28:49get across the finish line. And she is through to the final.I think

0:28:49 > 0:28:53Zavarzina is back on track. I'm not sure if she missed the gate or not

0:28:53 > 0:28:57but she's a good four or five gates back. We can't see her on the TV

0:28:57 > 0:29:06screen. If we look at the window on the commentary box we can see it is

0:29:06 > 0:29:12Joerg who will progress to the final. And be Olympic Athlete from

0:29:12 > 0:29:18Russia will be in the bronze medal match up against the German

0:29:18 > 0:29:26Hofmeister. That was a bit of a surprise.She was looking good, she

0:29:26 > 0:29:31was riding quick. She lost that edge. I think she's straight in her

0:29:31 > 0:29:35legs slightly too early and when she hit a bump she had to straighten

0:29:35 > 0:29:42legs and couldn't absorb it and lost the edge.

0:29:46 > 0:29:50Confirmation that it is Ester Ledecka in the final for the gold

0:29:50 > 0:29:55medal against Selina Joerg of Germany.

0:29:55 > 0:30:02Here we go, this is it, the final of the women's parallels giant slalom.

0:30:02 > 0:30:08The snowboard event. It is a match up between Selina Joerg and Ester

0:30:08 > 0:30:15Ledecka. She has already made history, the

0:30:15 > 0:30:20first athlete to compete in both snowboarding and alpine skiing at an

0:30:20 > 0:30:31Olympic Games. She has already won a medal, will she win a gold, will she

0:30:31 > 0:30:40double the gold medal tally? They are off and underweight.

0:30:40 > 0:30:51Ledecka is on the Red Cross. -- underway. The Disko is doing it, one

0:30:51 > 0:30:58slip and it will go away. --

0:30:59 > 0:31:01slip and it will go away. -- leaded egg -- Ledecka. A wobble on the Andy

0:31:01 > 0:31:13Gate. Needing to pump out on the flat to generate speed.

0:31:13 > 0:31:17Needing to be nice and smooth through these last gates.Ledecka

0:31:17 > 0:31:26will make history. She has done it. Absolutely incredible, a gold medal

0:31:26 > 0:31:31in the Alpine skiing super-G, addition and now gold medal in the

0:31:31 > 0:31:34parallel giant slalom snowboard connotation. It has never been done

0:31:34 > 0:31:40before. Not in modern times, two sports in one Olympic Games, what an

0:31:40 > 0:31:45athlete. Probably the biggest story of these

0:31:45 > 0:31:55Games.There are some pretty good designs on her suit. She has two

0:31:55 > 0:32:05separate coaching teams, for Alpine skiing and snowboarding.

0:32:05 > 0:32:10The first of these semifinals, Sylvain Dufour of France against

0:32:10 > 0:32:21Nevin Galmarini, the Swiss racer. Galmarini has looked lightning fast.

0:32:21 > 0:32:26Very fast and very strong, qualifying in first, he has had a

0:32:26 > 0:32:27good day so

0:32:35 > 0:32:41They are off, Dufour on blue and Galmarini on the red. Galmarini just

0:32:41 > 0:32:45jumping into that, through the transition.

0:32:45 > 0:32:53A risky Maria Miller but if you land correctly you get a good calf -- a

0:32:53 > 0:32:58risky manoeuvre.

0:32:58 > 0:33:01risky manoeuvre. They are pumping along the flat section tried to

0:33:01 > 0:33:08generate speed.Galmarini looking very good.

0:33:08 > 0:33:17Extending his lead. The pressure on Dufour was immense. You could see

0:33:17 > 0:33:27Galmarini was ever so slightly ahead.

0:33:27 > 0:33:35ahead. Blue out in the end. You have got to say Galmarini, he really is

0:33:35 > 0:33:40looking one of the quickest rider is today, as received Dufour losing the

0:33:40 > 0:33:47heel edge. Galmarini didn't realise, he was reaching Ford, stretching for

0:33:47 > 0:33:53the line. Expect the noise levels to go up

0:33:53 > 0:34:01now, Zan Kosir, bronze medallist from Sochi, up against the local

0:34:01 > 0:34:09hero Lee Sangho. Kosi is on red.

0:34:14 > 0:34:17Pushing the ball back and it looked like Lee didn't get the best of

0:34:17 > 0:34:24starts.He got the timing wrong with the pole and movement of the legs.

0:34:24 > 0:34:31He has fallen slightly behind. He has work to do. Zan Kosir can be

0:34:31 > 0:34:39lightning fast. Lee needs to pull something out. Zan Kosir had the

0:34:39 > 0:34:47advantage, riding through the banana gate on the toe edge.It looks neck

0:34:47 > 0:34:54and neck. Lee got twisted. As he came over the rise, he is going for

0:34:54 > 0:35:04it. It is going to be... Lee!

0:35:04 > 0:35:09it. It is going to be... Lee! Oh, my gosh, that is close. He pulled back

0:35:09 > 0:35:12out between the second-class gate and the finish line.He was so far

0:35:12 > 0:35:20back. But he risked absolutely everything on the last six gates.

0:35:20 > 0:35:28The crowd is loving it here this afternoon. And that means that Korea

0:35:28 > 0:35:39are guaranteed a medal. Look how far behind years. As they went past that

0:35:39 > 0:35:50gate. A charge over the last six gates. Look at that finish. I think

0:35:50 > 0:35:59Zan Kosir thought he had got it. That is so close.

0:35:59 > 0:36:02That is so close. We have had some incredible racing so far today. It

0:36:02 > 0:36:15is going to finish with a bang. I can hear Lee Sangho being charted

0:36:15 > 0:36:18from the finish. This is it. The men's parallel giant

0:36:18 > 0:36:26slalom. The big final. Lee Sangho on the

0:36:26 > 0:36:33Blue Course. Correia is guaranteed a silver or gold medal but which

0:36:33 > 0:36:41colour will it be?He is up against Nevin Galmarini. From Switzerland

0:36:41 > 0:36:48who has been riding very strong all day.You call it, you are the

0:36:48 > 0:36:55expert.I don't know. My heart is saying Lee, my head is saying

0:36:55 > 0:37:02Galmarini. One tiny mistake can throw it away. I will tell you in

0:37:02 > 0:37:07about one minute! Here we go. The whole country

0:37:07 > 0:37:13expects. A better start from Lee, he had a shocking start in the

0:37:13 > 0:37:19semifinal.He got a good pool. Slightly behind now.Taking too much

0:37:19 > 0:37:25of a conservative line on the top of the course. 0.45, a long way back,

0:37:25 > 0:37:31he will have to go for it. He needs to carry speed from the steep to the

0:37:31 > 0:37:42flat. Galmarini from Switzerland is looking good.Coming over now.

0:37:42 > 0:37:50Cantlay pull out the spectacular again. This time, it is Switzerland

0:37:50 > 0:37:58that takes the gold, Lee will have to settle for silver. The crowd is

0:37:58 > 0:38:06very happily with the medal -- very happy with the medal.Galmarini

0:38:06 > 0:38:11takes the gold medal for Switzerland.He has had a fantastic

0:38:11 > 0:38:21day. Qualified in first, won all his heats. A deserving winner.

0:38:21 > 0:38:30Lee was able to catch up from the steep to the flat, he gained back

0:38:30 > 0:38:37two tenths of a second. He seems faster at the end of the course.

0:38:37 > 0:38:44Look at the angle there. In the end, he didn't need to reach for the

0:38:44 > 0:38:53line, he had a sneaky look at his opponent and knew he was

0:38:58 > 0:39:06STUDIO:You have to say the story of the day is Ester Ledecka macro.

0:39:06 > 0:39:15You were favourite, how did you cope with the pressure?

0:39:15 > 0:39:20with the pressure?I was watching many others, so, this is very

0:39:20 > 0:39:24specific, a very specific base because you have just one chance, it

0:39:24 > 0:39:28is not like the World Cup where you have more races and in the end it

0:39:28 > 0:39:34comes together. And so you need some luck. And I

0:39:34 > 0:39:41believe I had this luck today. In her honour we have brought the

0:39:41 > 0:39:48world of snowboarding and Alpine racing together. Two completely

0:39:48 > 0:39:52different cultures coming together. This amazing athlete has managed to

0:39:52 > 0:39:58win a gold medal in both. It is amazing, turning what we

0:39:58 > 0:40:03thought about focusing on your sport and chain so many hours on one

0:40:03 > 0:40:08thing, she is managing to train to win gold medals in both skiing and

0:40:08 > 0:40:13snowboarding, completely different cultures. Many are saying it is

0:40:13 > 0:40:17still on snow but how would you characterise the differences in what

0:40:17 > 0:40:21she has done today bringing both of them together?

0:40:21 > 0:40:28It is like being a professional rollerblader and skateboarder, or

0:40:28 > 0:40:31footballer and rugby player. They are completely different sports. It

0:40:31 > 0:40:37is so impressive the hours of training, to both events, she must

0:40:37 > 0:40:44have had no time to sleep.Rebecca Romero for Great Britain at the

0:40:44 > 0:40:50summer games she won a rowing gold medal come silver, and won a gold

0:40:50 > 0:40:59medal in cycling. But we are talking in the same Olympic Games. Her coach

0:40:59 > 0:41:03Justin Rieter says the ability to restrain herself and not go hell for

0:41:03 > 0:41:07leather in one discipline one day and the other the next, how do you

0:41:07 > 0:41:14limit yourself to do just enough? It must be ours in the day. She must

0:41:14 > 0:41:18have to change so much and for so long to be that good. Lindsey Vonn

0:41:18 > 0:41:22talked about it in the super-G how she trains at one spot and still

0:41:22 > 0:41:29wasn't the best in the world. This athlete has dominated two separate

0:41:29 > 0:41:31sports. Is this the shape of things to come

0:41:31 > 0:41:36to mark it could be. It is probably the attraction of

0:41:36 > 0:41:42winter sports that has obviously got her. It will be amazing to see more

0:41:42 > 0:41:46of this. Would you even contemplate Quetta

0:41:46 > 0:41:51muck you have done quite a lot of things in your time, the Alpine,

0:41:51 > 0:41:55then ski Cross, could you imagine switching later in your career? You

0:41:55 > 0:42:02could even do Alpine and ski cross in the same games. I can't see

0:42:02 > 0:42:09anyone else doing it. It is so out there, so difficult. I can't see

0:42:09 > 0:42:16anyone being crazy enough to try it! I have seen snowboarders trying half

0:42:16 > 0:42:21pipe and slopestyle. I see how hard that is the them to divide their

0:42:21 > 0:42:31time between the two.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35We're staying with the head-to-head racing now in the alpine team event.

0:42:35 > 0:42:36New for 2018.

0:42:36 > 0:42:38Alpine skiing's push to grab the attention of a different

0:42:38 > 0:42:42audience and a new market.

0:42:42 > 0:42:44We had expected there to be some high profile

0:42:44 > 0:42:46gold-hunters in this one, namely Austria's Marcel Hirscher -

0:42:46 > 0:42:49but he's called it a day at these games with his two golds,

0:42:49 > 0:42:52and America's Mikaela Shiffrin who says she's got some celebrating

0:42:52 > 0:42:54to do after a gold and a bronze.

0:42:54 > 0:43:02But plenty of others are keen to grab a piece of this.

0:43:21 > 0:43:23In the first quarterfinal, Austria weaved their way

0:43:23 > 0:43:25to a straightforward 4-0 win over Sweden.

0:43:25 > 0:43:26Each race win earns a point.

0:43:26 > 0:43:28Manny Feller rounding out the rout.

0:43:28 > 0:43:29France against Italy was a slightly closer.

0:43:29 > 0:43:31The French led 2-1 going into the final race,

0:43:31 > 0:43:34but Clement Noel put in a strong performance to see

0:43:34 > 0:43:35France into the semis.

0:43:35 > 0:43:37And Germany versus Switzerland was incredibly tight, finishing 2-2.

0:43:37 > 0:43:39Ramon Zenhaeusern's decisive win over Alexander Schmidt proving

0:43:39 > 0:43:47the difference as the Swiss progress with the fastest total time.

0:43:48 > 0:43:53GB reached the quarterfinals, they were facing the Norwegians. Let us

0:43:53 > 0:43:58join Matt Chilton.

0:43:58 > 0:44:05Great Britain versus Norway. For a place in the semifinal of the

0:44:05 > 0:44:10inaugural Alpine team event. First up, Alex Tilley takes on Kristin

0:44:10 > 0:44:15Lysdahl. Things didn't go according to plan in the slalom. But a chance

0:44:15 > 0:44:21for redemption here. The British team, Charlie Guest, Dave Ryding,

0:44:21 > 0:44:32Laurie Taylor, Alex Tilley. The Norwegians, Foss-Solevaag,

0:44:32 > 0:44:35Haver-Loeseth, Lysdahl and Nestvold-Haugen.

0:44:35 > 0:44:45Lysdahl in blue. Tilley at the jump, good landing. An excellent turn.

0:44:45 > 0:44:50Lysdahl is still in front. Tilley is closing the gap, half a gate in

0:44:50 > 0:44:55front for a moment. She has done enough. Great Britain when the first

0:44:55 > 0:45:03race. What a fightback from Alex Tilley. Lysdahl hooked up her hand

0:45:03 > 0:45:07in the control gate, Tilley took advantage. Great Britain lead 1-0.

0:45:07 > 0:45:12Laurie Taylor is up against Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen.

0:45:25 > 0:45:29Laurie Taylor needs to overcome the man in the red course. Taylor is

0:45:29 > 0:45:34matching Nestvold-Haugen so far. At the jump the Norwegian is in front.

0:45:34 > 0:45:38Lands comfortably in front of Taylor and starts to move away. Mistakes

0:45:38 > 0:45:43can still occur and Laurie Taylor will be watching for a potential

0:45:43 > 0:45:51error from Nestvold-Haugen. None is forthcoming and it is 1-1. Good

0:45:51 > 0:45:56skiing from Nestvold-Haugen. He held his nerve, beating Laurie Taylor by

0:45:56 > 0:46:110.62. Charlie Guest next.

0:46:21 > 0:46:26Haver-Loeseth with a good landing. Twice a World Cup winner up against

0:46:26 > 0:46:31the inexperienced Charlie Guest. Haver-Loeseth looks in total control

0:46:31 > 0:46:38and will surely put Norway 2-1 in front. She does. 2-1 is the

0:46:38 > 0:46:48scoreline, with just Dave

0:46:49 > 0:46:53Ryding and Foss-Solevaag to come. Dave Ryding of Great Britain,

0:46:53 > 0:46:59Foss-Solevaag of Norway.

0:46:59 > 0:47:01Foss-Solevaag of Norway. Ryding powers out of the gate and is in

0:47:01 > 0:47:05front at the jump. He lands marginally ahead of the Norwegian

0:47:05 > 0:47:15skis sideways. Ryding battling back. Ryding has a gap, it needs to be a

0:47:15 > 0:47:23big gap for Great Britain to advance. Ryding takes the win. It's

0:47:23 > 0:47:27a tie-break and Norway have qualified by time. Great Britain and

0:47:27 > 0:47:31Northern Ireland are out. The tie-break favouring the Norwegians.

0:47:31 > 0:47:38They go through but not by much. Norway will face Austria in the

0:47:38 > 0:47:41semifinal but what a fantastic performance from the British

0:47:41 > 0:47:46quartet. They can hold their heads high after a memorable performance

0:47:46 > 0:47:56here. Time for the semifinals and the line-up sees Austria taking an

0:47:56 > 0:48:04Norway and then France up against Switzerland. Austria versus Norway

0:48:04 > 0:48:11in semi-final number one.

0:48:11 > 0:48:14in semi-final number one. Good start from Lysdahl. Liensberger recovered

0:48:14 > 0:48:20well after a slightly sluggish exit from the start hut. Now they are

0:48:20 > 0:48:24synchronised. We haven't had a dead heat yet in today's competition and

0:48:24 > 0:48:28I don't think we'll have one here. Liensberger bites thirst for

0:48:28 > 0:48:33Austria.

0:48:33 > 0:48:39Austria. 0.19, Austria lead Norway 1-0. A good fight back for

0:48:39 > 0:48:51Liensberger. What a great jump and turned that was. A good

0:48:51 > 0:48:54turned that was. A good start for Mike Matt. A couple of early

0:48:54 > 0:48:59mistakes from Nestvold-Haugen. This has opened up in his favour. Now

0:48:59 > 0:49:02Mike Matt has recovered his poise but he's allowing the Norwegian to

0:49:02 > 0:49:11get ahead. Nestvold-Haugen will tie the scoreline. It's one apiece. This

0:49:11 > 0:49:15is where it started to come apart from Mike Matt. Eventually he missed

0:49:15 > 0:49:29the gate. Race three, Gallhuber of Austria and Haver-Loeseth of Norway.

0:49:29 > 0:49:38This should be good. Haver-Loeseth in red, Gallhuber in blue. It's 1-1

0:49:38 > 0:49:44after the first two rounds. Away they go, pushing hard. Nothing to

0:49:44 > 0:49:50choose between them. Haver-Loeseth was more accurate with the turns

0:49:50 > 0:49:54straight after the jump and moves in front as she attempts to give Norway

0:49:54 > 0:50:00a 2-1 lead.

0:50:00 > 0:50:07a 2-1 lead. Gallhuber steals it from Haver-Loeseth. The Norwegian holds

0:50:07 > 0:50:11her helmet in her hands and is apologising to her team-mates. We

0:50:11 > 0:50:19are down to a final race between Schwarz and Foss-Solevaag. Schwarz

0:50:19 > 0:50:25who's that the last round out is in the red course. Foss-Solevaag has

0:50:25 > 0:50:30looked shaky at times. Schwarz metronomic with his red and moves in

0:50:30 > 0:50:37front. The Austrians are on their way, barring a mistake from Schwarz.

0:50:37 > 0:50:43Austria are in the final. They've defeated Norway 3-1. Norway will

0:50:43 > 0:50:54have to go and fight it out for the bronze a little later.

0:50:57 > 0:51:10It's France versus Switzer -- France versus Switzerland. Now it's all

0:51:10 > 0:51:18about medals. Baud Mugnier of France.

0:51:18 > 0:51:25France. The Switzerland, Feierabend in blue.

0:51:25 > 0:51:29in blue. Baud Mugnier has looked sharp in previous outings so far

0:51:29 > 0:51:34this afternoon that is reflected in the way the French skier has taken

0:51:34 > 0:51:41this apart in the first 20 turns. The final six to come and Baud

0:51:41 > 0:51:48Mugnier gives France a lead of 1-0. Feierabend left standing somewhat

0:51:48 > 0:52:01there. France lead by 1-0. Now we'll see a serious battle between Clement

0:52:01 > 0:52:07Noel who was fourth in the Olympic slalom, and Zenhaeusern who took the

0:52:07 > 0:52:13silver in the red course. The giant Swiss against the young Frenchman.

0:52:13 > 0:52:17Zenhaeusern was over early, pushing too hard and Noel has got a half

0:52:17 > 0:52:25baked advantage at the jump. Zenhaeusern is back in front. What a

0:52:25 > 0:52:29comeback from the big Swiss ski racer who draws Switzerland level.

0:52:29 > 0:52:39It's 1-1. That was something from Zenhaeusern. He got left standing

0:52:39 > 0:52:42after he pushed too hard at the start. The gate didn't open and he

0:52:42 > 0:52:48had to go again. Next up, Worley the double world champion in giant

0:52:48 > 0:52:58slalom up against Holdener who has two medals from the Games already.

0:52:59 > 0:53:04Holdener in the red course. They are synchronised through the first turns

0:53:04 > 0:53:08at the jump. They land simultaneously. No real lead in

0:53:08 > 0:53:14evidence for either skier. Holdener establishes herself marginally out

0:53:14 > 0:53:20in front.

0:53:20 > 0:53:23in front. Switzerland leading France 2-1. Holdener has skied superbly all

0:53:23 > 0:53:32day at Yongpyong. She gives Switzerland the edge. 2-1 as they

0:53:32 > 0:53:40bid for a place in the final now it's

0:53:41 > 0:53:47it's down to Pinturault versus Yule. Yule made a great start but

0:53:47 > 0:53:52Pinturault has closed the gap. Yule has had some shaky moments so far

0:53:52 > 0:54:01but he's ahead at the jump. Pinturault playing catch up. Surely

0:54:01 > 0:54:05Switzerland are guaranteed a medal? Switzerland are in the final! It's

0:54:05 > 0:54:10the dream final in many ways. The mighty Swiss take on their great

0:54:10 > 0:54:17rivals Austria in the battle for the gold and silver. France will return

0:54:17 > 0:54:24to fight it out for the bronze against Norway.

0:54:26 > 0:54:30against Norway. Confirmation of Switzerland's win over France. The

0:54:30 > 0:54:36small final, the battle for bronze, France versus Norway. It's a great

0:54:36 > 0:54:45start again for Lysdahl. She's up against the double world champion in

0:54:45 > 0:54:49giant slalom Worley who's never won an Olympic medal. She is now in

0:54:49 > 0:54:55front with the bottom third of the race to come. Lysdahl battling back.

0:54:55 > 0:55:01Worley with the early lead and she takes it by 0.19 second. 1-0 to

0:55:01 > 0:55:10France. The final third is where Worley got the best exhilaration

0:55:10 > 0:55:16with the tightest turns. France in the red course, with Foss-Solevaag

0:55:16 > 0:55:23in bluefin Norway. A brilliant start from Pinturault. Fractionally ahead.

0:55:23 > 0:55:27He's in front at the jump. Foss-Solevaag trying to play catch

0:55:27 > 0:55:35up no of the Norway and he succeeds. He is level with Pinturault.

0:55:35 > 0:55:40Goodness me it's tight, and Foss-Solevaag has got it by seven

0:55:40 > 0:55:46hundredths.

0:55:46 > 0:55:50hundredths. Foss-Solevaag held his nerve, kept his cool and eventually

0:55:50 > 0:55:59pulled alongside his opponent with some head-to-head slalom technique.

0:55:59 > 0:56:05Now takes on Baud Mugnier for France. -- Haver-Loeseth takes on

0:56:05 > 0:56:10Baud Mugnier.

0:56:11 > 0:56:14Baud Mugnier. Baud Mugnier has a fine opportunity to put France 2-1

0:56:14 > 0:56:19in front with

0:56:20 > 0:56:31in front with just... She takes France to a 2-1 lead by 0.31.

0:56:31 > 0:56:36Haver-Loeseth's upper body got twisted. She took the jump lopsided

0:56:36 > 0:56:45and had to continue on her way.

0:56:45 > 0:56:46and had to continue on her way. Noel is up against Nestvold-Haugen. The

0:56:46 > 0:56:51last race of the Olympics for these two men. A medal at stake. It's a

0:56:51 > 0:56:57good start. Now they get stuck into the first seven turns and Noel has a

0:56:57 > 0:57:02fractional lead. He lands and then Nestvold-Haugen comes steaming past.

0:57:02 > 0:57:08For a moment the Frenchman lost control of his ski pole. Its gimmick

0:57:08 > 0:57:16go down to the tie-break. Norway with the bronze medal. Norway take

0:57:16 > 0:57:25the bronze and they celebrate that. France R4 began.

0:57:25 > 0:57:29France R4 began. Liensberger Norway take it on the tie-break by 12

0:57:29 > 0:57:35hundredths of a second. Now the main event, Austria taking on

0:57:35 > 0:57:45Switzerland. The two big players in Alpine ski racing.

0:57:49 > 0:57:55Switzerland are in the blue course to kick things off, with Feierabend

0:57:55 > 0:57:59taking an Liensberger. On recent form in today's competition, you

0:57:59 > 0:58:04would put your money on Liensberger. Feierabend generally the weak link

0:58:04 > 0:58:09for Switzerland. Liensberger out in front. She has a half baked

0:58:09 > 0:58:18advantage. If she stays on her feet she will give Austria a 1-0 lead by

0:58:18 > 0:58:260.31. Now we'll see the race we will be looking forward to, as two of the

0:58:26 > 0:58:32medallists from the men's slalom go head-to-head. Matt versus

0:58:32 > 0:58:41Zenhaeusern. Another brilliant start from Zenhaeusern but a slightly

0:58:41 > 0:58:46shaky few turns from the Swiss. Mike Matt has looked more convincing. Now

0:58:46 > 0:58:52Zenhaeusern Mousset up through the gears and goes into overdrive as

0:58:52 > 0:59:01Matt will be disqualified. It's 1-1 in the final. Zenhaeusern brings

0:59:01 > 0:59:05Switzerland back into contention with a dynamic explosive run. A

0:59:05 > 0:59:10great start from Mike Matt but Zenhaeusern has shown his

0:59:10 > 0:59:13capabilities in this head-to-head format. He was the winner of the

0:59:13 > 0:59:27stock, vent. -- stock on -- Stockholm event.

0:59:27 > 0:59:29Stockholm event. It's Holdener versus Gallhuber. Switzerland versus

0:59:29 > 0:59:36Austria.

0:59:36 > 0:59:40Austria. Both medallists in the Olympic slalom. Simultaneous start,

0:59:40 > 0:59:48no mistakes made. Gallhuber makes a mistake. Holdener has a half gate

0:59:48 > 0:59:53lead as they come off the lip. Gallhuber has fought back into

0:59:53 > 1:00:00contention in previous rounds. She can't overhaul Holdener's lead.

1:00:00 > 1:00:06Holdener gives Switzerland 1 advantage.

1:00:07 > 1:00:13A second between them. . The last race of the alpine ski racing

1:00:13 > 1:00:19programme here at Pyeongchang. Schwarz against Yule in the

1:00:19 > 1:00:25inaugural alpine team event. They will get a medal but they all

1:00:25 > 1:00:32want the gold. They are ready to go. The fourth and final race in the

1:00:32 > 1:00:35alpine combined, edition, Daniel Yule on the Blue Course.

1:00:35 > 1:00:43A better start from Marco Schwarz. Daniel Yule, back in contention. I

1:00:43 > 1:00:50think he is in front and Schwarz is struggling. Schwarz has gone out and

1:00:50 > 1:00:55Daniel Yule can cruise through. Switzerland are the Olympic

1:00:55 > 1:01:01champions. They have defeated their all-time rivals Austria and they

1:01:01 > 1:01:07take the first ever gold medal in the alpine team event. It will be

1:01:07 > 1:01:14silver for Austria, Marco Schwarz's mistake rules them out. Switzerland

1:01:14 > 1:01:21when 3-1. Gold to Switzerland. Silver to

1:01:21 > 1:01:26Austria in the battle of the giants. With Norway defeated France to win

1:01:26 > 1:01:31the bronze.

1:01:31 > 1:01:37How did you view the overall look of the team event?

1:01:37 > 1:01:42I enjoyed the team event, as a spectacle it is great. I would love

1:01:42 > 1:01:52it if the athletes gave it as much attention as the other events.

1:01:52 > 1:01:5215

1:01:52 > 1:01:55-- 15 of the 23 skiers who'd won individual medals skipped it.

1:01:55 > 1:01:58individual medals skipped it.

1:01:58 > 1:02:05if it teething problems? As a whole, the event works well but

1:02:05 > 1:02:10because they don't turn up it doesn't feel as it would be if all

1:02:10 > 1:02:15the big guns were there. The next time they do.Technically a

1:02:15 > 1:02:19fifth place for Great Britain. Officially the best result on snow.

1:02:19 > 1:02:28Does it feel like that?It feels like a technicality, because of the

1:02:28 > 1:02:32field. You can't take that away from them, they beat the Americans, and

1:02:32 > 1:02:43gave Norway a good scare. They did awesome, they really did us

1:02:43 > 1:02:46proud. Hopefully they can keep pushing.

1:02:46 > 1:02:51In future years will it be like the mixed doubles curling where it is a

1:02:51 > 1:02:58new event but with the resources going into the main teams, but this

1:02:58 > 1:03:03is a gold medal up for grabs. I think teams will realise it is

1:03:03 > 1:03:10another for the medals table and funding and the fans.

1:03:10 > 1:03:17The last of the alpine events, thanked you for your contributions.

1:03:17 > 1:03:20It's the final weekend of the Games and that means we're getting

1:03:20 > 1:03:25ready for the rumble.

1:03:25 > 1:03:32The thrilling rumble you can hear when four big men sprint, full pelt,

1:03:32 > 1:03:35and pile into a high-tech sled and fly through an ice

1:03:35 > 1:03:38tunnel at up to 90mph.

1:03:38 > 1:03:45Keep your head down, we're green for go in Pyeonghchang's F1 on ice.

1:04:03 > 1:04:09We have had the luge, the skeleton, and the two and events in bobsleds

1:04:09 > 1:04:16but this is where the big guys with in the four-man.

1:04:16 > 1:04:23Next a powerful team from Germany, Francesco Friedrich, he dead heated

1:04:23 > 1:04:30famously with the two-man gold. A new start record. Great velocity,

1:04:30 > 1:04:39that is what these teams bring, these are the top starters. They

1:04:39 > 1:04:45carry so much velocity. We could see this, as long as he gets things

1:04:45 > 1:04:49right, being in contention. He has been flying in training.

1:04:49 > 1:04:58That is one of the best you will see all day. Just losing a bit of speed.

1:04:58 > 1:05:03Maybe now the sled is starting to move. That line through the chicane

1:05:03 > 1:05:08has helped him. A little tap of 15 and high of 16.

1:05:08 > 1:05:15Maintaining that advantage. Hats off to the Koreans, they have

1:05:15 > 1:05:19clearly done well. You can see what it means to Friedrich chasing

1:05:19 > 1:05:24another gold medal. A little bit of a shift to the left

1:05:24 > 1:05:29of the screen as you are looking at it but that was a really good run.

1:05:29 > 1:05:36He got through clean, you can see the height, having a packed -- how

1:05:36 > 1:05:40they are packed in. That was the only mistake. Lamin

1:05:40 > 1:05:45Deen and his team, the first of the great British pairings, with Toby

1:05:45 > 1:05:51Olubi, Ben Simons from Shrewsbury and Andrew Matthews from Slough, all

1:05:51 > 1:05:57in their 30s, Lamin Deen is 36, probably his last Games, fifth in

1:05:57 > 1:06:04the World Championships three years ago, his second Olympic Games.

1:06:04 > 1:06:07In training his start looked like there was room for improvement,

1:06:07 > 1:06:12would you agree? Yes but people complain they haven't

1:06:12 > 1:06:17shown their full power. It has been their runs down the track where the

1:06:17 > 1:06:20British team have found their speed. Hopefully the runners will work well

1:06:20 > 1:06:28on the ice temperatures. Let us see the start time. Inside

1:06:28 > 1:06:33five seconds. One of the slowest way of those we have seen.It didn't

1:06:33 > 1:06:37look clean. This is the issue he has been having in training. The second

1:06:37 > 1:06:42corner has been causing problems, throwing buckets of speed away.

1:06:42 > 1:06:48Lamin Deen will be struggling to stay within the top 12. We know how

1:06:48 > 1:06:53much that costs time at the top. Hopefully he can get this one right.

1:06:53 > 1:06:59It is not looking like a clean run. This British sled will drop back in

1:06:59 > 1:07:02the order which is not what they wanted.

1:07:02 > 1:07:06Things ebbing away again I am afraid, not a happy start we were

1:07:06 > 1:07:11hoping for, Lamin Deen and his three colleagues, he flashes through, less

1:07:11 > 1:07:18than a second off the leader. You can see Ben Simons has a big

1:07:18 > 1:07:22mess up getting in which delays the team. Toby Olubi getting his big

1:07:22 > 1:07:28arms in which is why they had backed a witch. 630 kilos and the whole

1:07:28 > 1:07:38sled is off the ice. -- which is why they had that big twitch.

1:07:38 > 1:07:43The second team for Great Britain, ranked 12th in the world, Brad Hall

1:07:43 > 1:07:48who is 12th in the two-man event, with Greg Cackett, Joel Fearon and

1:07:48 > 1:07:55young Nick Gleeson. So, they now go with 27-year-old

1:07:55 > 1:08:03Brad Hall their pilot, third at Park city, the opening World Cup event of

1:08:03 > 1:08:08the season, one of only two top-10 finishes. Can they put in a better

1:08:08 > 1:08:18run? That is a lot better start. This is

1:08:18 > 1:08:23where Brad Hall need to get through. He has been having trouble there all

1:08:23 > 1:08:30week. The first run he has got it right. We saw from the two-man he

1:08:30 > 1:08:34can drive this well. He finished eighth here last year in a World Cup

1:08:34 > 1:08:40race. He can drive this track. He needs to relax into it and get

1:08:40 > 1:08:44through clean. That is as good as any of the top pilots. A little bit

1:08:44 > 1:08:48late but this is a good run from Brad Hall, to give the Brits a

1:08:48 > 1:08:55chance of having a top-10 finish. Coming out of 15. Top-10 might elude

1:08:55 > 1:09:07him here. As he finishes. This is a good load from the guys.

1:09:07 > 1:09:10That is the best run Brad Hall has had down here this week. That will

1:09:10 > 1:09:18give him confidence. Hopefully we can start to pull back. We have the

1:09:18 > 1:09:23Brits at 15 and 16, not where they were expecting, suddenly Lamin Deen

1:09:23 > 1:09:28was expecting around the top five. There is the leaderboard, Friedrich

1:09:28 > 1:09:36leads.

1:09:43 > 1:09:47The Germans are always going to be strong but from a British point of

1:09:47 > 1:09:54view a disappointing performance. They should be fighting the medals.

1:09:54 > 1:09:58That I am afraid is how it has worked out for the British pair,

1:09:58 > 1:10:11Brad Hall and Lamin Deen. Brad Hall in 16th place. Lamin Deen at 19.

1:10:11 > 1:10:15The second run for Great Britain, Lamin Deen, very disappointing with

1:10:15 > 1:10:21his 19th place. Together with Ben Simons, Toby Olubi and Andrew

1:10:21 > 1:10:26Matthews. What do they need to put right this time around?

1:10:26 > 1:10:33A little bit on the load, having trouble getting in. But Lamin Deen

1:10:33 > 1:10:35needs to sort out the second quarter.

1:10:35 > 1:10:44They push away. 4.98 was the start time in the first run. They have

1:10:44 > 1:10:50done exactly the same. Not great velocity, this is where he has been

1:10:50 > 1:10:57having issues. He may scrap of a little time from the Americans, a

1:10:57 > 1:11:01little tap, the same mistake. He hasn't been driving well. Another

1:11:01 > 1:11:06little of the state. It is difficult to get these sleds into a slide

1:11:06 > 1:11:10because they are so planted. You know the palate is making big

1:11:10 > 1:11:16errors, as he comes

1:11:18 > 1:11:23errors, as he comes into their -- pilot.

1:11:23 > 1:11:30He started off 16th, head of the American team.

1:11:30 > 1:11:37Extending that slightly.A lot better. Getting in cleaner. Toby

1:11:37 > 1:11:43spends a little too long for me. A little tap, the nose coming into

1:11:43 > 1:11:50Connor 12. The big mistake for Lamin Deen was exit two and four, that

1:11:50 > 1:11:54have the back looks like it is going to roll in. A little bit further and

1:11:54 > 1:11:59that would have been a crash. Next to go for Great Britain, Brad

1:11:59 > 1:12:06Hall with Nick Gleeson, Joel Fearon and Greg Cackett. They start 16th

1:12:06 > 1:12:13after run number one. Overall the mood was little bit

1:12:13 > 1:12:16similar to Lamin Deen, one of the slight frustration it wasn't quicker

1:12:16 > 1:12:23down the hill. It is frustration. Brad is a young

1:12:23 > 1:12:27pilot, he has only been driving four years, he hasn't quite got the

1:12:27 > 1:12:33experience. The him to be top 15 in the world, is still a relatively

1:12:33 > 1:12:37good result. Although on paper it doesn't seem like that. They had a

1:12:37 > 1:12:41good start, they always carry good velocity, they are one of the best

1:12:41 > 1:12:51drill teams. The main thing is they have good velocity. He has just made

1:12:51 > 1:13:00a mistake which cost him in four and five. This is the difference between

1:13:00 > 1:13:07the top pilots, tiny little errors. These cost time. This track is so

1:13:07 > 1:13:13easy to lose speed and hard to find it. He will drop back on Independent

1:13:13 > 1:13:14Parliamentary Standards Authority spots.

1:13:14 > 1:13:20You properly saw Mica McNeill and make or giving them a good sendoff

1:13:20 > 1:13:29but the run is a happy one. -- and Mica Moore.

1:13:31 > 1:13:38Everybody driving behind, stepping in, load, a little twitch. He has

1:13:38 > 1:13:43already made a mistake at the top. It is a knock on effect which has

1:13:43 > 1:13:51cost him. Now the pressure is on the Korean

1:13:51 > 1:13:56team.

1:13:56 > 1:14:00team. Brilliant run one but they went first. How much of an advantage

1:14:00 > 1:14:06was that on fresh ice? We will see right now.

1:14:06 > 1:14:11A tremendous time. Surely they can't get anywhere near that this time

1:14:11 > 1:14:17around on a deteriorating track?It will be interesting. Sometimes you

1:14:17 > 1:14:21have to take those opportunities. Like going first they give

1:14:21 > 1:14:25themselves an opportunity to put themselves in the mix. Listening to

1:14:25 > 1:14:31everyone driving these lines,

1:14:31 > 1:14:34everyone driving these lines, they are some of the best, you can hardly

1:14:34 > 1:14:36hear them through the corners because they know the track so well.

1:14:36 > 1:14:38Staying ahead of the Germans.

1:14:45 > 1:14:49KrippsI wasn't expecting them to stay in front of the Germans, just

1:14:49 > 1:14:53because of the difference in the time of the track but he's doing a

1:14:53 > 1:14:59great job.He was nine hundredths ahead of Walther. The gap might

1:14:59 > 1:15:06close a bit to six hundredths. Tomorrow on the medal chase, they

1:15:06 > 1:15:14are right in the thick of things. Look at what it means to the

1:15:14 > 1:15:21hometown team. Takes a different line than other teams but their

1:15:21 > 1:15:26heads down, shoulders, knees, legs, interlocked. That is a big run from

1:15:26 > 1:15:36the Koreans right there.Friedrich goes the Germany. A 4.8 start time

1:15:36 > 1:15:43with ten on their way. The current leaders run number one.We know he's

1:15:43 > 1:15:48fast because he's already won a gold medal. You know he's got the lines

1:15:48 > 1:15:52perfect because you can hardly hear him. That gap at the moment you can

1:15:52 > 1:16:00see opening out is because of the stark difference. If he starts to

1:16:00 > 1:16:04get drawn back into the pack at the bottom because he hasn't found the

1:16:04 > 1:16:10speed, then maybe everyone else is in a chance of catching him. I think

1:16:10 > 1:16:19he's going to be hard to catch. Curve 14 already. Now out of 15,

1:16:19 > 1:16:23does this give Friedrich a great chance of gold? He's nearly three

1:16:23 > 1:16:29tents in front of the Koreans. Look what it meant to the coaching team.

1:16:29 > 1:16:35Friedrich already has a gold medal from the two-man event.When you

1:16:35 > 1:16:40look at this, the professional team all the way down, no real mistakes.

1:16:40 > 1:16:46You see him tweak the steering and there was just a little tap. That

1:16:46 > 1:16:51didn't cost him any speed at all. I honestly think the gold medal is

1:16:51 > 1:16:56there to lose. It's about fighting for silver and bronze.Friedrich

1:16:56 > 1:17:07with a really big lead over Won in second place.

1:17:07 > 1:17:12Are you surprised to be back where you are?Definitely. We had quite a

1:17:12 > 1:17:16big surprise a couple of days ago regarding equipment. We had to

1:17:16 > 1:17:22change our equipment. We had a setup that worked very well, but we had to

1:17:22 > 1:17:28change that. Why did you have to change your runners? We had to

1:17:28 > 1:17:33change it because there was a technicality with one rear runner.

1:17:33 > 1:17:41Again, the rules are the rules. We couldn't train or test the sets that

1:17:41 > 1:17:46we wanted to test but that's how it is. That's racing. The two British

1:17:46 > 1:17:49bobs a lot further back in the field and both of them have talked about

1:17:49 > 1:17:56their equipment not being great. Lamin particularly has talked about

1:17:56 > 1:18:03his runners. This is a runner, what are we looking at here? This is a

1:18:03 > 1:18:08two-man runner. This was of one of the celebs that Brad race didn't.

1:18:08 > 1:18:13The difference you've got is the profile here that can be

1:18:13 > 1:18:17interchangeable. They can do what they want with that. The length of

1:18:17 > 1:18:24the runner, they can put a slight bow in it.It's not sharp at all.

1:18:24 > 1:18:29This is very smooth to the touch and you spend hours and hours handing

1:18:29 > 1:18:37them.We do. We polish them to a mirror finish. Not like the luge

1:18:37 > 1:18:41which is more of an edge, this is more of a round. This is where it's

1:18:41 > 1:18:49bolted the bobsleigh itself. The issue the British team have had,

1:18:49 > 1:18:52certainly with Lamin, is this depth. It has been under the legal limit

1:18:52 > 1:18:58which is why it's been deemed illegal.Do we know how much bite?I

1:18:58 > 1:19:03don't know but from years and years of polishing, it takes fractions of

1:19:03 > 1:19:06a millimetre off every time you do that so eventually runs out of

1:19:06 > 1:19:12material.Is that something they might have known would be close or

1:19:12 > 1:19:16perhaps at the back of your mind?It would have been close. They've been

1:19:16 > 1:19:22close in the past. But a different part of the technical examination

1:19:22 > 1:19:26team has looked at it and said we aren't accepting that for the

1:19:26 > 1:19:31Olympics.To the outsider, what's the big deal? You find some more,

1:19:31 > 1:19:41crack on, what's the problem?This set I'm holding is £6,000. A set of

1:19:41 > 1:19:45four-man runners could not keep back £8,000. People don't give you good

1:19:45 > 1:19:49sets lying around at the Olympics because they obviously want to beat

1:19:49 > 1:19:57you.They don't have spares? They might but not of the same standard.

1:19:57 > 1:20:05Not a great position for the GB bobs, with equipment woes and issues

1:20:05 > 1:20:10how can they improve overnight? Or is this now beyond them?I think

1:20:10 > 1:20:13this competition is now beyond them and any top ten results.

1:20:13 > 1:20:17Realistically we are looking at top 15 at best. Hopefully one of them

1:20:17 > 1:20:26can move within that. And difficult conversations probably around the

1:20:26 > 1:20:29sport, around finding and performance, this is nowhere near

1:20:29 > 1:20:36where they wanted to be.No, they were confident coming into this game

1:20:36 > 1:20:41Games. They were ranked 11th and 12 coming into this. You'll be thinking

1:20:41 > 1:20:50fight for a top ten position. To be sucked towards just managing to beat

1:20:50 > 1:20:53-- to be just managing to scrape into the top 20 isn't acceptable.

1:20:53 > 1:20:59And only the top 20 get to run in the last run.If we see one of the

1:20:59 > 1:21:04GB team not get a fourth run, I think management will have to have a

1:21:04 > 1:21:09look at how they are doing things within their programme.

1:21:09 > 1:21:10HAZEL: Former world champion Nicola Minichiello piloted two-woman

1:21:10 > 1:21:11bobs in three Olympics.

1:21:11 > 1:21:13And with your experienced eye, does this seems

1:21:13 > 1:21:16like a pretty embarrassing error for the British team?

1:21:16 > 1:21:16It's for the British team?

1:21:16 > 1:21:17It's pretty for the British team?

1:21:17 > 1:21:17It's pretty bad. for the British team?

1:21:17 > 1:21:17It's pretty bad. It for the British team?

1:21:17 > 1:21:17It's pretty bad. It goes for the British team?

1:21:17 > 1:21:18It's pretty bad. It goes from for the British team?

1:21:18 > 1:21:18It's pretty bad. It goes from bad for the British team?

1:21:18 > 1:21:19It's pretty bad. It goes from bad to for the British team?

1:21:19 > 1:21:21It's pretty bad. It goes from bad to worse to be honest. I don't

1:21:21 > 1:21:27understand how we've got to the Olympics and yes, runners don't grow

1:21:27 > 1:21:30on trees especially good runners. However, if you knew the runners

1:21:30 > 1:21:34were close to the limit, I don't understand why we wouldn't have a

1:21:34 > 1:21:38back-up.

1:21:38 > 1:21:40In skiing, I remember skis and their bindings being measured

1:21:40 > 1:21:43after many of the technical events, to make sure that together

1:21:43 > 1:21:45they didn't exceed a certain height and provide a cantilevering turning

1:21:45 > 1:21:48advantage.

1:21:48 > 1:21:51Surely the depth of these runners would routinely be measured by each

1:21:51 > 1:21:52team going into an Olympics.

1:21:52 > 1:21:54How badly affected were both Bobs by today's events?

1:21:54 > 1:21:57Why does it have to be that specific height? That would be the bare

1:21:57 > 1:22:03minimum the jury would allow. The more flexible, the more shocked it's

1:22:03 > 1:22:07going to absorb and the faster the sled is going to go. And secondly

1:22:07 > 1:22:13because of safety. If it goes to thin it could snap. With 600 kilos

1:22:13 > 1:22:18with the four guys and the sled, its safety. You can't afford to have a

1:22:18 > 1:22:23runner snap. When did this come to light?I believe the team found out

1:22:23 > 1:22:28about it on Thursday. Again, it will have been close to the limit said

1:22:28 > 1:22:31the team would have been warned about it in advance over the

1:22:31 > 1:22:38previous four months of racing, or even earlier. So fair warning. What

1:22:38 > 1:22:43would you have done in this situation? If it was me, the very

1:22:43 > 1:22:47first point when I realised they were close to the limit I would have

1:22:47 > 1:22:52worked my hardest to source another really good set. Eventually, if you

1:22:52 > 1:22:57have enough money you can buy them. At this stage, yes, really

1:22:57 > 1:23:00difficult.They get on the ice today, we aren't sure where they

1:23:00 > 1:23:06have sourced them as yet. However, how do you think this affected

1:23:06 > 1:23:14Lamin's sled? You could see in the body language at the interview that

1:23:14 > 1:23:14Lamin's sled? You could see in the body language at the interview that

1:23:14 > 1:23:18mentally they had already set that as a huge barrier. The equipment

1:23:18 > 1:23:22isn't going to be as good as their setup but you could clearly see in

1:23:22 > 1:23:27the body language they were super deflated. He's not been driving the

1:23:27 > 1:23:33top half of the track fantastic all week so that combined with the

1:23:33 > 1:23:39equipment issue, already their backs are against the wall.Lamin Deen's

1:23:39 > 1:23:44sled in 17, Brad Hall is 18. They were targeting a top five finish.

1:23:44 > 1:23:50How dispiriting is it and what is possible here? If you're not top 20

1:23:50 > 1:23:54you aren't going to get a fourth run.Yes, and right now they are

1:23:54 > 1:23:58three tenths of a second from 15th place. However three

1:23:58 > 1:23:58three tenths of a second from 15th place. However three tenths from 20

1:23:58 > 1:24:08First Place which would drop them out. -- three tenths from 21st

1:24:08 > 1:24:12place. They need to pick their heads up because this is so much of a

1:24:12 > 1:24:17mental game as well. If you are deflated before you start, the

1:24:17 > 1:24:22results speak for themselves. So much effort has gone into this, what

1:24:22 > 1:24:29needs to change over the next few months? We have to have a full

1:24:29 > 1:24:36review. How did we get to this stage, secondly challenges with

1:24:36 > 1:24:42equipment at this point, how has it got to this point when we've had £5

1:24:42 > 1:24:50million worth of investment over the four-year cycle, 17th and 18th where

1:24:50 > 1:24:55the four-man results are. It doesn't make sense. The numbers don't add

1:24:55 > 1:25:05up.They don't. Meanwhile

1:25:05 > 1:25:08up.They don't. Meanwhile Francesco Friedrich in pole position.

1:25:08 > 1:25:16It could bring Germany it's 100th gold medal in Games history.

1:25:17 > 1:25:19That's probably the really interesting thing. The Germans went

1:25:19 > 1:25:24to Sochi, had a shocker, went back and are doing fantastic. Great

1:25:24 > 1:25:27Britain have to take lessons from that.

1:25:27 > 1:25:34That's on ice for now, but there's been celebrations elsewhere already.

1:25:34 > 1:25:36But celebrations elsewhere in the Olympic Village today.

1:25:36 > 1:25:40But celebrations elsewhere in the Olympic Village today. Britain's

1:25:40 > 1:25:43Acrobat turned Apley Billy Morgan lector bronze in the big event.

1:25:43 > 1:25:50Fifth medal at these games for Great Britain, a record. And the Czech

1:25:50 > 1:25:54star Ester Ledecka became the first woman to win gold in two different

1:25:54 > 1:26:01sports at the same Winter Games. She took the parallel giant slalom in

1:26:01 > 1:26:09snowboarding today. Today saw the first ever

1:26:10 > 1:26:16first ever para- -- first-ever mass start in speed skating.

1:26:16 > 1:26:23start in speed skating. The gruelling 50 K cross-country. Callum

1:26:23 > 1:26:30Smith 54 in the race which was won by Finland. Canada's men's ice

1:26:30 > 1:26:34hockey team left reeling after yesterday's shock defeat to Germany

1:26:34 > 1:26:39but they returned to beat Czech Republic 6-4 for the bronze today.

1:26:39 > 1:26:46And the USA are the new Olympic men's curling champions. Today they

1:26:46 > 1:26:55upset the Swedes 10-7. What a game this was.

1:26:59 > 1:27:02this was. Bobsled pilot Nadezhda Sergeeva has been banned after

1:27:02 > 1:27:05admitting a doping violation. The IOC are deciding if the Russians can

1:27:05 > 1:27:11parade under their own flag up tomorrow's closing ceremony.

1:27:11 > 1:27:12In the curling, we've been here before.

1:27:12 > 1:27:14And so has Eve Muirhead's rink.

1:27:14 > 1:27:17A semifinal defeat yesterday to the Swedes meant there was be no

1:27:17 > 1:27:19silver lining or golden finale to their South Korean

1:27:19 > 1:27:20curling campaign.

1:27:20 > 1:27:23But just as there was in Sochi, a medal was still within their

1:27:23 > 1:27:25grasp, another bronze, if they could sweep

1:27:25 > 1:27:31aside the Japanese.

1:27:31 > 1:27:33Eve and her team had already beaten Sastuki Fujkisawa's rink

1:27:33 > 1:27:37in the round robin stage and they were out to do it again

1:27:37 > 1:27:39at 11 o'clock this morning, watched by Jackie Lockhart and Steve

1:27:39 > 1:27:46Cram.

1:27:46 > 1:27:51The Japanese led into the last end 4-3. We are going to pick this up

1:27:51 > 1:27:58with three stones for each team remaining. Very, very tense.

1:27:58 > 1:27:59with three stones for each team remaining. Very, very tense.

1:27:59 > 1:28:03COMMENTATOR: They look like they are going to put on a guard initially

1:28:03 > 1:28:09and they aren't going to play the tap

1:28:09 > 1:28:19tap until Fujisawa's first stone.A bit of a break their as Yoshida

1:28:19 > 1:28:24listened and is she able to play the shot here? The coach didn't want

1:28:24 > 1:28:31them to come right in on top of the yellow. This has got a long way to

1:28:31 > 1:28:41go. Is that where they wanted it? Yeah, they wanted to put the guard

1:28:41 > 1:28:45on initially. They didn't want to play the tap until the skip's first

1:28:45 > 1:28:51stones. That's what Eve is going to... She's going to play quite

1:28:51 > 1:28:58aggressively and she wants to come round aggressively.Eve just tripped

1:28:58 > 1:29:05over her stone! They are playing really offensive now and are going

1:29:05 > 1:29:13to come right in behind these two. Come on Anna Sloan. Now is the time.

1:29:13 > 1:29:23Find your draw weight.

1:29:23 > 1:29:27Find your draw weight. Has this got a chance? They've got to hold it out

1:29:27 > 1:29:34there, come round that second yellow. And then slow up, just curl

1:29:34 > 1:29:41in, try and get it right in there. It's out there, though. Just changes

1:29:41 > 1:29:50the plan for Japan.A great attempt there.

1:29:53 > 1:29:58Eve heard what the coach said and changed things up so they can't

1:29:58 > 1:30:06follow his initial thoughts. So, we have to say that Fujisawa draw has

1:30:06 > 1:30:12been excellent. She has been going really well.

1:30:12 > 1:30:19The pressure is on. Don't forget, one, we are into an extra end, two

1:30:19 > 1:30:28and Britain when, anything else and the bronze battle goes to Japan.

1:30:28 > 1:30:32the bronze battle goes to Japan. It will come down to Eve's last stone.

1:30:32 > 1:30:37She was at least the chance to level this up but would love the chance of

1:30:37 > 1:30:43a two. This hasn't been the most energetic

1:30:43 > 1:30:47of games. What there has been lately is a lot of good shots being played

1:30:47 > 1:30:58very well. The skip for Japan kept them alive

1:30:58 > 1:31:02against Korea and almost got them into the gold medal match, she is

1:31:02 > 1:31:08trying to win the bronze medal. Caught her own yellow, just enough.

1:31:08 > 1:31:13It sits on that red. Great Britain still lying shot but that yellow

1:31:13 > 1:31:23will not be easy to move. They have another one on top of the approach.

1:31:23 > 1:31:29Can Eve come in on top of that? Is that the best ploy? If she ends up

1:31:29 > 1:31:35tapping her red back? It looks like she will try to follow

1:31:35 > 1:31:41that. Very close to playing a perfect shot.

1:31:41 > 1:31:46If she had got around that yellow and got in, as bad as it is... Here

1:31:46 > 1:32:05we go. Just bomb that a little bit.

1:32:06 > 1:32:14-- bump. Herrera line is really close.

1:32:14 > 1:32:23You have to remember the Japanese do not want to take the same.

1:32:23 > 1:32:27They will play that little bit more weight because they want to make a

1:32:27 > 1:32:33separation so they have an opportunity with the last stone.

1:32:39 > 1:32:47Biting his nails.The younger brother.

1:32:47 > 1:32:56I think we are all nervous for them. We are sitting with our hands...

1:32:56 > 1:33:06Sitting on our hands just now. It has been in some ways and

1:33:06 > 1:33:09attritional campaign, this match at times they have looked really good,

1:33:09 > 1:33:15other times not playing at the level at which they are capable. We just

1:33:15 > 1:33:19thought it might go their way, it didn't in the semifinal, it has been

1:33:19 > 1:33:24a scrap in the bronze medal match. Eve Muirhead with the penultimate

1:33:24 > 1:33:29stone trying to put the pressure on and give her the opportunity of a

1:33:29 > 1:33:33butt. It has got to come around the second yellow and sit on top of the

1:33:33 > 1:33:38other one. A good effort from Eve Muirhead but she has tapped her own

1:33:38 > 1:33:42back. It is a good shot, lying in shot

1:33:42 > 1:33:53position. She wants the chance to draw for two at the end.

1:33:57 > 1:34:04That was the most important thing. Now, Fujisawa is looking, if I come

1:34:04 > 1:34:10in and sit on that red, will I be shot? She properly will be if she

1:34:10 > 1:34:19rested on it. If she taps it, probably not. It will come down to

1:34:19 > 1:34:25Ott I suppose even if she did, Eve would tap that a little more. I am

1:34:25 > 1:34:32getting ahead of myself. If she comes into far it is an easy

1:34:32 > 1:34:38shot for Great Britain to follow it. She needs to sit in the front and

1:34:38 > 1:34:44force the one. But she leaves the other side.

1:34:44 > 1:34:51If she comes in where she is suggesting...

1:34:51 > 1:35:00suggesting...Just about where her brush is, just high of the centre,

1:35:00 > 1:35:08she needs to sit there. I am not sure Eve can touch that

1:35:08 > 1:35:16yellow, it would go to the back red. If you weren't nervous before, you

1:35:16 > 1:35:23must be now. I know we are. Surely for both sets of players and both

1:35:23 > 1:35:31skips, a nerve-racking situation, two stones to play, Great Britain

1:35:31 > 1:35:36trailed by one, they will play the last. Fujisawa has the chance to

1:35:36 > 1:35:44perhaps make it so difficult that Japan could even win it here.

1:35:44 > 1:35:49The key can hardly look. Anna is just chatting to Eve.

1:35:49 > 1:35:54Japan have to be very careful because she doesn't want to take it

1:35:54 > 1:35:59in the back half. It has to be T-high.

1:35:59 > 1:36:05Fujisawa with her final stone unless we have an extra end, trying to draw

1:36:05 > 1:36:10in, she has been superb all the way through this match.

1:36:10 > 1:36:14What has she delivered for them? The chance for this bronze medal? They

1:36:14 > 1:36:20have never won a medal. Eve Muirhead with a stone to go. This is turning

1:36:20 > 1:36:26a lot, it might catch the yellow. It goes by but not quite enough. It may

1:36:26 > 1:36:32have blocked the way in. As it sits, Great Britain have a

1:36:32 > 1:36:40shot. That would tie it up. If nothing happened, if Eve didn't even

1:36:40 > 1:36:48try, then we have one. And we are tied and we go to an extra end. Is

1:36:48 > 1:36:58there anyway Eve Muirhead can get in for another two? Is the back red,

1:36:58 > 1:37:01second shot, third shot? No, it is not.

1:37:07 > 1:37:11What Eve is thinking, coming down with a fair bit of weight, that

1:37:11 > 1:37:16yellow onto the red which jams against the other yellow, the first

1:37:16 > 1:37:23yellow moves out and we have got two.

1:37:23 > 1:37:28Right, Eve Muirhead, you have seen the shot, we have seen it. You make

1:37:28 > 1:37:36this, this is a bronze medal. Get it wrong, you could give it away.

1:37:36 > 1:37:43Who would want to be playing this stone?

1:37:43 > 1:37:46A great opportunity here to finish the game off.

1:37:46 > 1:37:55This is it right here. Eve Muirhead, final stone, the bronze medal awaits

1:37:55 > 1:38:02if she can play a shot here to get herself in for two. She has got to

1:38:02 > 1:38:08hit this yellow onto the other red, hope that jams. It had to sit right,

1:38:08 > 1:38:12and it is not. Oh, my goodness. That means the

1:38:12 > 1:38:18bronze medal goes to Japan, their first ever medal in curling. Eve

1:38:18 > 1:38:24Muirhead had the chance to win it. They were sitting one, it would have

1:38:24 > 1:38:30taken it to an extra end, she went for the win, it didn't come off.

1:38:30 > 1:38:35There are tears all around down there. No medal for Great Britain.

1:38:35 > 1:38:40Japan can hardly believe it. Fujisawa has led her team

1:38:40 > 1:38:44brilliantly well, they almost made it to the final yesterday and have

1:38:44 > 1:38:48been rewarded with a superb bronze medal and Great Britain will go home

1:38:48 > 1:38:59empty-handed. After all of this, Eve Muirhead and her team have nothing.

1:38:59 > 1:39:07Congratulations to the Japanese, Cowbridge -- commiserations to Great

1:39:07 > 1:39:11Britain. People will be watching, why the decision not to take the one

1:39:11 > 1:39:16and into a final end? For the ladies it was an opportunity

1:39:16 > 1:39:22to win the game. A lot of people think they were lying one, why not

1:39:22 > 1:39:27draw? There was barely a shot that other than one she attempted. In

1:39:27 > 1:39:32some ways the shot she did select was probably very high percentage, I

1:39:32 > 1:39:41am sure in practice Eve she would make it so many times.

1:39:44 > 1:39:48Unfortunately, this is a shot for a bronze medal at the Olympic Games

1:39:48 > 1:39:55and she just doesn't quite get it. We know about the pressure. And how

1:39:55 > 1:40:03heavily at times does that weight rest upon the shoulders of the skip?

1:40:03 > 1:40:07That is part and parcel of your job as the skip, to play the ultimate

1:40:07 > 1:40:15pressure shot. The strategy can be to have that shot to win. It may be

1:40:15 > 1:40:18difficult or easy or in between. They rely on you, they put you in

1:40:18 > 1:40:25that position. That you will make that shot.

1:40:25 > 1:40:31Let us be clear, you would have tried to go for the same shot?100%,

1:40:31 > 1:40:37she selected the right shot. Unfortunately it needed to Kulda, we

1:40:37 > 1:40:43are talking millimetres, to make that yellow stone spin through --

1:40:43 > 1:40:50curl. Will they be back? The team is a

1:40:50 > 1:40:55great team. Four years is a long time away. They need to figure out

1:40:55 > 1:41:00are they staying together, will they want to make a big commitment for

1:41:00 > 1:41:06the next Olympic Games? A sad end for Eve and the team but

1:41:06 > 1:41:11she has a bronze medal from last time and I suspect this will fire

1:41:11 > 1:41:14her up, she will be back. Absolutely.

1:41:14 > 1:41:22We will see her win some more again. A thrilling curling programme, still

1:41:22 > 1:41:26the final to go with the Garlic Girls tomorrow.

1:41:26 > 1:41:29So, with a medal target of four at least, Great Britain's athletes

1:41:29 > 1:41:32have indeed poured a little extra Winter Olympic gravy

1:41:32 > 1:41:34on proceedings in Pyeongchang.

1:41:35 > 1:41:37Dom Parsons flew down the track and into bronze

1:41:37 > 1:41:39on his skeleton last Friday.

1:41:39 > 1:41:43Then on Saturday, it was the Lizzie, Laura and Izzy show.

1:41:43 > 1:41:46Best ever single day at the Games, with gold and bronze in the skeleton

1:41:46 > 1:41:47and bronze in slopestyle.

1:41:47 > 1:41:49One week on, and we're saluting Billy Morgan's big air

1:41:49 > 1:41:52bronze this morning.

1:41:52 > 1:41:58And commiserating with the curling team after missing out on their

1:41:58 > 1:42:05bronze this morning. A quick look at the medal table,

1:42:05 > 1:42:14Great Britain are in a deep place. At the top, Norway and Germany.

1:42:14 > 1:42:27Germany might be looking good for a 14th gold in the four-man bob.

1:42:29 > 1:42:35We have the last of the Games programmes this evening.

1:42:35 > 1:42:38And then the finals in the small hours.

1:42:44 > 1:42:49#koreanslovecurlingtoo!

1:42:49 > 1:42:53That will be trending.

1:42:53 > 1:42:56Can the Germans spring one more surprise, this time

1:42:56 > 1:43:04against the Russian favourites, in the men's ice hockey final?

1:43:05 > 1:43:07Thank your for your company.

1:43:07 > 1:43:10So, that's it from the afternoon team here in these Winter Olympics.

1:43:10 > 1:43:11Our race is run.

1:43:11 > 1:43:12Our Games are done.

1:43:12 > 1:43:14Thanks for your company over the last couple of weeks.

1:43:14 > 1:43:17We've so enjoyed wrapping up each winter's day for you.

1:43:17 > 1:43:18See you in the spring.

1:43:18 > 1:43:29Goodbye for now. COMMENTATOR: Come on Billy Morgan.

1:43:30 > 1:43:36Billy Morgan, yes! With a double grab front side triple 14.

1:43:36 > 1:43:45He has got a bronze medal! Billy Morgan, you legend.
