0:00:42 > 0:00:46This is the biggest days so far in these games for the British teams.
0:00:46 > 0:00:55Let's hand over to our commentary duo...
0:00:55 > 0:01:00duo...Isabel Atkin, what does she have in her run? It's the biggest
0:01:00 > 0:01:05run of her life. It starts now.
0:01:05 > 0:01:05have in her run? It's the biggest run of her life. It starts now. Come
0:01:05 > 0:01:08on, Izzy Atkin... The final jump... Ooh!
0:01:08 > 0:01:14CHEERING Must try and remain impartial here.
0:01:14 > 0:01:20Third-place!
0:01:20 > 0:01:24Third-place! Ladies and gentlemen, Great Britain's Izzy Atkin takes a
0:01:24 > 0:01:27bronze medal.Let's turn our attention now to short track speed
0:01:27 > 0:01:34skating.A big night of short track racing ahead. Not least in the
0:01:34 > 0:01:39women's 1500 metres. The seats are about to start. A tremendous return
0:01:39 > 0:01:44to the ice. Elise Christie safely through to the semifinals.Today
0:01:44 > 0:01:51it's all about the skeleton...A warm welcome to the Sliding Centre
0:01:51 > 0:01:56ahead of round three of the women's skeleton. Lizzy Yarnold is two
0:01:56 > 0:02:02hundredths off the lead. They will not be separated by much on the
0:02:02 > 0:02:09line. Laura stays in fourth place. Elise Christie needs to finish in
0:02:09 > 0:02:16the first two to get into the Olympic final. The race is on as
0:02:16 > 0:02:22they take the bell. Elise Christie in third-place! They come around the
0:02:22 > 0:02:29final bend... Elise Christie has crashed again now, in the semifinal,
0:02:29 > 0:02:36and yet again she ends up in a distraught heap on the floor. Now we
0:02:36 > 0:02:41come to the potential medallists... Hold it together! Laura Deas going
0:02:41 > 0:02:48next for Great Britain... She is confirmed as for fudges-macro Lizzy
0:02:48 > 0:02:56Yarnold next. The Olympic champion, can she make history and win again?
0:02:56 > 0:03:05This could be at least a silver for Lizzy Yarnold Eriksen it's a gold
0:03:05 > 0:03:13medal run, I'm sure of it.She needs the run of her 28 years to tip out
0:03:13 > 0:03:17Lizzy Yarnold.Time is dropping away. And it looks like Lizzy
0:03:17 > 0:03:22Yarnold will win again. Does Laura Deas have a medal in her? She wins
0:03:22 > 0:03:32gold again! Laura Deas has won bronze as well.A great day for
0:03:32 > 0:03:36Great Britain at the Winter Olympics...
0:03:36 > 0:03:38STUDIO: A day of such mixed emotions.
0:03:38 > 0:03:40STUDIO: A day of such mixed emotions. 30 years, the tension, the
0:03:40 > 0:03:44triumph and in the end a record-breaking day for Team GB. The
0:03:44 > 0:03:50first time three medals have ever been won on one day, the first time
0:03:50 > 0:03:52British athletes have ever successfully defended an Olympic
0:03:52 > 0:03:57title and the first time two places on the podium had been filled by
0:03:57 > 0:04:02British athletes. It all meant that early this morning, Lizzy Yarnold
0:04:02 > 0:04:07climbed onto the middle step of that podium to receive her gold medal.
0:04:07 > 0:04:12The smile and a clapping for all of those who supported her. Her team
0:04:12 > 0:04:16members, family members and her husband too. And, the pleasure that
0:04:16 > 0:04:21she was able to share this moment with Laura Deas. Laura winning the
0:04:21 > 0:04:24bronze medal. Her friend and team-mates. Laura has been
0:04:24 > 0:04:30instrumental in keeping Lizzy going. She said that pressure is a
0:04:30 > 0:04:40privilege, she is the queen of the skeleton.
0:04:51 > 0:05:01"God Save The Queen" PLAYS.
0:05:12 > 0:05:17CHEERING APPLAUSE
0:05:17 > 0:05:22There are all of the people celebrating with Lizzy and Laura,
0:05:22 > 0:05:28the two flags going up together. Only seconds before she says to come
0:05:28 > 0:05:32up. The silver medallist from Germany there and the mementos that
0:05:32 > 0:05:37they have representing the mountain range in Pyeongchang. They will take
0:05:37 > 0:05:41those home with them. And straight after the ceremony, Nick Hope caught
0:05:41 > 0:05:48up with the double Olympic champion, Lizzy Yarnold...This must feel
0:05:48 > 0:05:52incredible. Two-time Olympic champion, you finally got your hands
0:05:52 > 0:05:57on the gold?It is becoming more real. Being able to belt out the
0:05:57 > 0:06:04national anthem was extraordinary. I loved it!How does the medal feel?
0:06:04 > 0:06:08It is beautiful! It is the bark of the tree, that is what it
0:06:08 > 0:06:11represents. I'm a big environmentalist. I adore the
0:06:11 > 0:06:15design. It is heavy and beautiful and represents everything I have
0:06:15 > 0:06:23been working for.And what a journey?Yes, I cannot even begin to
0:06:23 > 0:06:28explain all of the arts and the downs. We really did believe that we
0:06:28 > 0:06:34could do this. I mean, British sport is coming on so far. The Winter
0:06:34 > 0:06:38Olympics, although we are the underdog, we are making a name for
0:06:38 > 0:06:43ourselves. We could not do it without the support of everyone at
0:06:43 > 0:06:49home. The British press, national lottery players, I do not do it by
0:06:49 > 0:06:56myself. This is everyone's gold medal, who has helped me.You said
0:06:56 > 0:07:00that Britain was the underdog, with three medals in the skeleton they
0:07:00 > 0:07:03are now the favours? It is extraordinary, we have a skill of
0:07:03 > 0:07:08learning the track quickly, no home advantage but learning an Olympic
0:07:08 > 0:07:13track wicket. Focusing inwardly and not worrying on what anyone else is
0:07:13 > 0:07:18doing. Hopefully that can continue into the future and into Beijing!
0:07:18 > 0:07:24Absolutely, talk us through the last 24 hours, they must have been crazy!
0:07:24 > 0:07:29Yes, I only had three hours sleep, I cannot really sleep with my chest at
0:07:29 > 0:07:35the moment but it is a media whirlwind. Laura and I started to
0:07:35 > 0:07:40cry an hour ago, live on TV with Clare Balding! The emotions will
0:07:40 > 0:07:44keep going for weeks and weeks. And how strange was that this morning,
0:07:44 > 0:07:50going to breakfast as normal but as an Olympic champion again, and a
0:07:50 > 0:07:56bronze medallist? The bobsleigh guys always shout at me, "Champ! " and
0:07:56 > 0:08:01now they don't know how to say double Champ! It is lovely to have
0:08:01 > 0:08:12other athletes with you and know you in the gym, day in, day out. This is
0:08:12 > 0:08:16a success together.Is a double Olympic champion, and part of
0:08:16 > 0:08:22history, it was a Super Saturday, can you sum up what it means to you?
0:08:22 > 0:08:26What Super Saturday means and our success without the winter athletes,
0:08:26 > 0:08:29we never stopped believing in ourselves and all of these
0:08:29 > 0:08:33extraordinary events that we put ourselves through, we do it with
0:08:33 > 0:08:39British grit and go for it and do the best that we can. It isn't bad,
0:08:39 > 0:08:43bringing home four medals already and seeing what the week-old is!
0:08:43 > 0:08:48Lizzy Yarnold,
0:08:48 > 0:08:53Lizzy Yarnold, thank you! It has been a triumph of commitment. These
0:08:53 > 0:08:57are the headlines in the Sunday papers, celebrating the success of
0:08:57 > 0:09:05Lizzy Yarnold, one of them referring to her as Queen Lizzy We have other
0:09:05 > 0:09:14studio guests with us. What do you think this moment means for women's
0:09:14 > 0:09:22sport and winter sport?Obviously, so much.
0:09:22 > 0:09:26so much. For British winter sport, we are not an Alpine nation, we
0:09:26 > 0:09:31don't have the facilities but British skeleton look at it from a
0:09:31 > 0:09:34business perspective, like British cycling, how do we put together a
0:09:34 > 0:09:40programme that will deliver success. They have done it and kept doing it.
0:09:40 > 0:09:46Bronze, silver, gold, gold, and now three medals. It shows if you are
0:09:46 > 0:09:49systematic and approach it well, there are no barriers to success. It
0:09:49 > 0:09:54doesn't mean it is easy but you can put together a programme. To have
0:09:54 > 0:09:58three medals yesterday, three women, such fantastic role models for young
0:09:58 > 0:10:03girls to look up and say, it doesn't matter on my background. I can
0:10:03 > 0:10:09achieve and do anything that I want. It is just amazing. For all of the
0:10:09 > 0:10:14sweating and the pain in training, and all of the doubts that Lizzy may
0:10:14 > 0:10:18have had another struggle with her sinuses and her breathing, sharing
0:10:18 > 0:10:22the joy with her friend and team-mate Laura Deas, this will
0:10:22 > 0:10:29inspire people but as an individual, how do you think Lizzy Yarnold
0:10:29 > 0:10:34personifies the attitude and how well she talks about what is needed
0:10:34 > 0:10:39to be a champion?She has an amazing mix of passion but level-headedness.
0:10:39 > 0:10:44She knows it takes a roller-coaster ride to get there. She had a tough
0:10:44 > 0:10:49four years. She still has self belief. She is perfect for winter
0:10:49 > 0:10:53sports. She is the perfect a bit me of someone who has gone and done it
0:10:53 > 0:10:57four years ago, and takes the grit and does it again four years later.
0:10:57 > 0:11:02It is so difficult to do. She's had a target on her back. It would have
0:11:02 > 0:11:07been easy to retire four is a guy at the top of her game. To do a second
0:11:07 > 0:11:12Olympics, if she didn't win the gold it would have been a failure. She
0:11:12 > 0:11:14believed in herself, against everything, against this sinus
0:11:14 > 0:11:18problem. That she hasn't been on top form this year. I'm getting goose
0:11:18 > 0:11:23bumps again because she is incredible.Bet is the first race
0:11:23 > 0:11:29she has won since taking the World Championships in 2015.She has had
0:11:29 > 0:11:32concussion, injuries, and huge setbacks. But she never stopped
0:11:32 > 0:11:36believing. She hasn't had the greatest season but she got it right
0:11:36 > 0:11:42and in that moment it shows what a superstar she is. Uber and that is
0:11:42 > 0:11:45synonymous with life. People think that you are at the top and we see
0:11:45 > 0:11:49Lizzy every four years being amazing. We need to see that she's
0:11:49 > 0:11:55gone through real lows to bring it back up. Even if young women
0:11:55 > 0:12:00watching think this is a tough time they are at now, Lizzy has been
0:12:00 > 0:12:05there. Yesterday she was at the top of what you could do in sport. That
0:12:05 > 0:12:10is why sport reaches out beyond the winning of a match or a race, it is
0:12:10 > 0:12:14bigger than that. These men and women have gone through so much to
0:12:14 > 0:12:18get to where they are and it is exciting to think that we have
0:12:18 > 0:12:22reached a stage where we aren't just hoping for a bronze medal here or a
0:12:22 > 0:12:26great fifth-place finish, we are winning gold medals and to have two
0:12:26 > 0:12:30athletes on the podium together size an awful lot about the team spirit
0:12:30 > 0:12:36between them and also the depth of the talent -- says an awful lot.
0:12:36 > 0:12:43We've seen the first rung of the GB two-man bob. A great time posted by
0:12:43 > 0:12:49Brad Hall and Joel Fearon. Brad is the pilot, job is one of the fastest
0:12:49 > 0:12:57100 metre runners. He slots in behind Brad, this
0:12:57 > 0:12:58100 metre runners. He slots in behind Brad, this track is really
0:12:58 > 0:13:01challenging?We said from the start that the key on this track is the
0:13:01 > 0:13:07velocity. They are super athletes, they had the start and the velocity.
0:13:07 > 0:13:11Brad had a phenomenal run here. A great first run in training this
0:13:11 > 0:13:14week but has been struggling in the middle of the pack. This is
0:13:14 > 0:13:23fantastic.We can see the speeds they are reaching. The former bob
0:13:23 > 0:13:30one-week get to it will be the fastest of the sliding vehicles?
0:13:30 > 0:13:35Brad is a specialist. This was not expected, for him to be in this
0:13:35 > 0:13:40position at this stage. It is great, he is such a talented driver and he
0:13:40 > 0:13:44can really build over the coming years. Two teams in the four man
0:13:44 > 0:13:50Bob, is Brad the number one hope? They have been switching around, but
0:13:50 > 0:13:59for him, key has been performing better this season.
0:13:59 > 0:14:02better this season. You have seen all of the athletes, the women's
0:14:02 > 0:14:07sleds, and the four man pilots, everybody has been their daily. The
0:14:07 > 0:14:11track has changed so much since the test event. The quicker they can
0:14:11 > 0:14:14pick up those changes, we are talking centimetres that will make
0:14:14 > 0:14:19the perfect line and make those races. After the first run, we will
0:14:19 > 0:14:24be back at one o'clock for the second run. Seventh place after the
0:14:24 > 0:14:28first run. Brad Hall for Great Britain, not point to nine behind
0:14:28 > 0:14:36the leaders. You can see how close it is, those top three places. It is
0:14:36 > 0:14:39the same as the Luge and the skeleton, we will see so much stuff
0:14:39 > 0:14:44around. It is a tricky track. It is the dangerous track we saw in
0:14:44 > 0:14:50Vancouver. It is very technical. If you don't get your minds right, you
0:14:50 > 0:14:54can lose huge spaces. We have seen it in the luge and the skeleton and
0:14:54 > 0:14:57hundred percent sure that we will see it in the
0:14:57 > 0:14:59hundred percent sure that we will see it in the bobsleigher as well!
0:14:59 > 0:15:02If you look at this
0:15:02 > 0:15:02see it in the bobsleigher as well! If you look at this for a close
0:15:02 > 0:15:06finish, the biathlon that was run earlier this morning was
0:15:06 > 0:15:12extraordinary. The 15 kilometre mass start. 30 by athletes here. Watch
0:15:12 > 0:15:15out for the athlete in the middle there. With the number two on his
0:15:15 > 0:15:23bib. He is trying to become the first Frenchman to win four Olympic
0:15:23 > 0:15:27gold medals. He is going for a career of four gold medals. Going to
0:15:27 > 0:15:34the finish with us, Rob Walker...
0:15:34 > 0:15:41Fourcade has to be focused here. I'm sure when he was in the range for
0:15:41 > 0:15:47the fourth time in the individual race, he was, in his mind, en route
0:15:47 > 0:15:51to yet another Winter Olympics gold. But it unravelled with his last two
0:15:51 > 0:15:55shots and that will surely be in the mercurial Frenchman's mind as he
0:15:55 > 0:16:01prepares himself for this last visit to the range ahead of a three K
0:16:01 > 0:16:11circuit to glory. Simon Schempp, world champion. Eric Lesser, silver
0:16:11 > 0:16:18medallist twice four years ago.
0:16:22 > 0:16:23medallist twice four years ago. Can the three-time Olympic champion
0:16:23 > 0:16:32Martin Fourcade produce a quartet of golds?
0:16:38 > 0:16:44They are all up and running. No mistakes from anyone yet. There is
0:16:44 > 0:16:50Eric Lesser's first mistake.
0:16:50 > 0:16:52Eric Lesser's first mistake. Nasa has missed two, so Martin Fourcade
0:16:52 > 0:17:01and Simon Schempp -- Eric Lesser has missed two. Real disappointment
0:17:01 > 0:17:18therefore Eric Lesser. Can one of these men get in the mix?
0:17:24 > 0:17:33Eder has missed two. The defending Winter Olympic champion is there as
0:17:33 > 0:17:41well. Fourcade will fancy the job here. Still waiting to see who is
0:17:41 > 0:17:46third.
0:17:52 > 0:17:55Martin Fourcade, no luxury of a fist pump to the crowd, because Simon
0:17:55 > 0:17:59Schempp, the reigning world champion in this event, is breathing down his
0:17:59 > 0:18:06neck. The defending champion is coming out of nowhere to be in with
0:18:06 > 0:18:17a shout for podium. Eric Lesser made two costly misses at the range.
0:18:17 > 0:18:19two costly misses at the range. It looks like the three men are all
0:18:19 > 0:18:26vying for the bronze, Benedict Doll, the sprint world champion, the
0:18:26 > 0:18:29defending champion and Arrow Glacier, the German, who has been by
0:18:29 > 0:18:34far the most accurate in the region to that last visit. This is the
0:18:34 > 0:18:38battle for gold. It is Martin Fourcade, the three-time Winter
0:18:38 > 0:18:42Olympic champion, aiming for a hat-trick of medals in the Winter
0:18:42 > 0:18:49Olympics in this event. Silver in Vancouver, silver in Sochi. Two men
0:18:49 > 0:18:52battling for gold and silver. Three men in the bottom of your shot,
0:18:52 > 0:19:02battling for bronze.
0:19:02 > 0:19:06battling for bronze. What a race on our hands we have here. This is
0:19:06 > 0:19:14superb. The German and French coaches roaring encouragement to
0:19:14 > 0:19:24these biathletes.
0:19:24 > 0:19:29these biathletes. Benedikt Doll, world sprint champion. Bronze in the
0:19:29 > 0:19:34pursuit.
0:19:42 > 0:19:56This would be amazing from Svendsen. Many thought the legendary Norwegian
0:19:56 > 0:19:58who carried the flag in the opening ceremony was over the hill and
0:19:58 > 0:20:01passed it, but he might be giving himself one more opportunity for an
0:20:01 > 0:20:08individual medal. Benedikt Doll looks over his shoulder and so does
0:20:08 > 0:20:18Svendsen. Nothing to separate those three.
0:20:18 > 0:20:23three. Five men. Only room on the podium for three. Can Martin
0:20:23 > 0:20:36Fourcade some acceleration here in the last couple of kilometres?
0:20:37 > 0:20:40the last couple of kilometres? Can the three-time Winter Olympic
0:20:40 > 0:20:46champion make it four? We will see some incredible celebrations if he
0:20:46 > 0:20:51does. And what about Simon Schempp? He had a relay silver four years
0:20:51 > 0:20:55ago, but this would be by far the biggest victory of his career. Yes,
0:20:55 > 0:20:59he's the world champion in this event, but this is the Winter
0:20:59 > 0:21:02Olympic Games and it only comes around once every four years. If
0:21:02 > 0:21:08Simon Schempp is to become the champion, he will do so beating one
0:21:08 > 0:21:15of the all-time greats, Martin Fourcade, the Frenchman. 1400 metres
0:21:15 > 0:21:20to go. Still nothing to separate these two men. But which one is
0:21:20 > 0:21:25hurting the most? Who is going to start settling the silver first? Who
0:21:25 > 0:21:34is driven on by a relentless desire for glory? Massive burst of
0:21:34 > 0:21:43acceleration by Eric Lesser, and use the ah -- Benedikt Doll is suddenly
0:21:43 > 0:21:54finding himself out of contention. Lesser in third.
0:21:54 > 0:21:57Lesser in third. At the bottom of your picture, Martin Fourcade,
0:21:57 > 0:22:02trying to get a gap between himself and Simon Schempp as the other three
0:22:02 > 0:22:08come tearing down towards that sharp right-hander before the long climb
0:22:08 > 0:22:14and the contemplation of a sprint finish.
0:22:27 > 0:22:32Martin Fourcade and Simon Schempp, preparing themselves for the final
0:22:32 > 0:22:38assault. One more lung bursting push for the line. What about this battle
0:22:38 > 0:22:47for bronze? Three of them are still there. Svendsen, Eric Lesser,
0:22:47 > 0:22:55Benedikt Doll and Svendsen is going for this. He is desperate for
0:22:55 > 0:22:59another Olympic medal. He hasn't produced his best so far, but this
0:22:59 > 0:23:06is the closest he has come to being on the podium in these games. This
0:23:06 > 0:23:10is what world-class sport is all about. If you are watching hour
0:23:10 > 0:23:15biathlon for the first time, it doesn't matter. Who has got the
0:23:15 > 0:23:20heart, who has got the drive, who has the desire and who has the
0:23:20 > 0:23:24belief to see that moment that will go down in history? Simon Schempp,
0:23:24 > 0:23:30the world champion, Martin Fourcade, the multiple Winter Olympic
0:23:30 > 0:23:33champion. This would be the biggest moment in Schempp's life, but
0:23:33 > 0:23:38Fourcade is driving. Schempp is trying to come on the right-hand
0:23:38 > 0:23:43side. It's so close! It is shoulder to shoulder, eyeball to eyeball! Oh,
0:23:43 > 0:23:47my goodness me! It's a photo! I think Martin Fourcade thinks he may
0:23:47 > 0:23:53have lost it on the line. Has Emil Hegle Svendsen got the bronze? Yes,
0:23:53 > 0:24:03he has. Root is on the podium again. Fourcade is shaking his head. Has
0:24:03 > 0:24:08Simon Schempp relegated Martin Fourcade down to the silver medal
0:24:08 > 0:24:14for the third successive time in these games? Fourcade has been given
0:24:14 > 0:24:19it. Silver in Vancouver, silver in Sochi. Is it gold for Martin
0:24:19 > 0:24:27Fourcade? I think it might be. Rob Walker was right. Fourcade can
0:24:27 > 0:24:31finally celebrate because this time, he is on the right side of the photo
0:24:31 > 0:24:34finish. It was a tremendously exciting closing lap and lunge for
0:24:34 > 0:24:40the line. Simon Schempp of Germany just missed out. Fourcade gets his
0:24:40 > 0:24:43timing spot on to win the fourth Winter Olympic gold medal of his
0:24:43 > 0:24:48career and to make up for just missing out on this event for the
0:24:48 > 0:24:52last two games. Look out his frustration! Last time, he was in
0:24:52 > 0:24:55that photo finish with Svendsen and they got the same time, but Fourcade
0:24:55 > 0:25:06was adjudged to have finished just behind. This time, he has done it.
0:25:06 > 0:25:09Martin Fourcade becomes the greatest ever French Winter Olympian, moving
0:25:09 > 0:25:14past Jean-Claude Killy. We can see where France stand now in the medal
0:25:14 > 0:25:25table. Norway are top for the first time.
0:25:31 > 0:25:36Now, the latest news on Elise Christie, who so far has had two
0:25:36 > 0:25:39incredibly unlucky but also disastrous falls in the speed
0:25:39 > 0:25:43skating. She was taken to hospital last night for x-rays on her right
0:25:43 > 0:25:50ankle. No broken bones. She says she is working hard alongside Team GB to
0:25:50 > 0:25:56try and turn this around, but her leg is very swollen. Chemmy, she is
0:25:56 > 0:26:01in a lot of pain.Very swollen. She is cycling to get that swelling out
0:26:01 > 0:26:06and then there are these boots that have compression, so she's trying to
0:26:06 > 0:26:09get that swelling up to the heart so she can get rid of it. She is doing
0:26:09 > 0:26:12all the right things. The fact that she is already on the bike is good
0:26:12 > 0:26:22news. If anyone can do it, she is fierce enough. If you can make it to
0:26:22 > 0:26:27Tuesday, there is just one race than a couple of days to keep icing it,
0:26:27 > 0:26:32get the swelling down. But she will have to deal with the pain. She will
0:26:32 > 0:26:36not feel the pain if she gets on the start line. The adrenaline will kick
0:26:36 > 0:26:41in and she will be ready. She is tough enough to handle the pain.So
0:26:41 > 0:26:45speaks a woman who has looked through pain barrier is more than
0:26:45 > 0:26:52once before!
0:26:52 > 0:26:58There has been drama in the curling.
0:27:00 > 0:27:05Eve Muirhead knows that this stone can't count because the red light
0:27:05 > 0:27:09comes on to signify that she had committed a hard-line violation. You
0:27:09 > 0:27:14have to release the stone before the red line. And although it looked as
0:27:14 > 0:27:18if she had released it before the red line, she may just have tapped
0:27:18 > 0:27:21the back of the handle with her finger as she was taking her hand
0:27:21 > 0:27:25away, and that would have activated the red light. There are still
0:27:25 > 0:27:29discussion as to whether the technology was working, but the
0:27:29 > 0:27:33upshot of it is that Sweden have beaten with Britain and the British
0:27:33 > 0:27:36women manage to win two of their last three games to progress to the
0:27:36 > 0:27:43knockout stages. Those last three games are going to be tough as it is
0:27:43 > 0:27:45Switzerland, Japan and Canada they have got. Canada started
0:27:45 > 0:27:50appallingly, but have made a comeback as they always do. That
0:27:50 > 0:27:55could be the one that decides. Onto the men's team. They are currently
0:27:55 > 0:28:00in action against Italy. We will be rejoining the game shortly, but here
0:28:00 > 0:28:06is their table.
0:28:06 > 0:28:09is their table. The top four go through to the knockout stages, so
0:28:09 > 0:28:13Britain need to be winning their remaining matches. When we left them
0:28:13 > 0:28:16on BBC Two, Great Britain were leading but Italy took two in the
0:28:16 > 0:28:21sixth end and as we join it, the score is 3-3. Britain have the
0:28:21 > 0:28:28hammer in end seven. Logan Gray and Jackie Lockhart.
0:28:28 > 0:28:33You join us at an extremely exciting part of the end. There is a tactical
0:28:33 > 0:28:38exchange going on here as GB look to try and blank in the seventh end to
0:28:38 > 0:28:44take the hammer into the eighth. Kyle Smith, the GB skip, is trying
0:28:44 > 0:28:50to make a take-out of his own. He wants to hit this red on the
0:28:50 > 0:28:56left-hand side. Get it a bit close to the nose. GB are still lying in
0:28:56 > 0:29:06shot position after that. Italy have a bit of work to do here is the
0:29:06 > 0:29:12debrief of that Stone continues.
0:29:13 > 0:29:18debrief of that Stone continues. A positive result for GB.
0:29:26 > 0:29:38He has left just about all you can see that red.
0:29:38 > 0:29:48see that red. Has to be very careful here, though.
0:29:48 > 0:29:51here, though.Joel Retornaz' eyes peeled on the stone coming down the
0:29:51 > 0:29:57ice. We have seen them flirt with a couple of guards in this game and
0:29:57 > 0:30:09sneak by.He is playing a controlled weight here.
0:30:09 > 0:30:20weight here.Lovely shot by the Italian fourth player.
0:30:22 > 0:30:31But he has left a controlled double take-out for Team GB to school two
0:30:31 > 0:30:36here.
0:30:36 > 0:30:44It leads an opportunity for Team GB. A shot required from Kyle Smith. If
0:30:44 > 0:30:50he makes it perfectly, it could remove both of the reds and go to
0:30:50 > 0:31:00line two.
0:31:00 > 0:31:11A deep breath required... Again, favouring that controlled takeout.
0:31:11 > 0:31:15This one is quite a lot more difficult than that one. It looks
0:31:15 > 0:31:23very close. Have they got it? They certainly have! A great shot by Kyle
0:31:23 > 0:31:30Smith to score too. A big response from Team GB as they restore a two
0:31:30 > 0:31:37shot lead that they had earlier in the game. Team GB are looking good.
0:31:37 > 0:31:45Just three ends to come. Leading Italy 5-3.
0:31:49 > 0:31:52Italy 5-3. It has been an enthralling match all the way. An
0:31:52 > 0:31:58extremely tight game. A big two in the first end. For the first time,
0:31:58 > 0:32:03you can really sense that Team GB is beginning to take control again?
0:32:03 > 0:32:11They played that end very well, there was a lot of cat and mouse
0:32:11 > 0:32:14initially, with Italy putting its guards up but they had to make a
0:32:14 > 0:32:18play on something. With how the stones Lane, it's a great
0:32:18 > 0:32:25opportunity to pick up two. Italy played a lovely shot. They turned
0:32:25 > 0:32:34the play and they did a wonderful job of picking up a deuce. The
0:32:34 > 0:32:39second of the game for Team GB. It comes at a very important time in
0:32:39 > 0:32:48the match. Italy running out of time, just three ends to come. Cammy
0:32:48 > 0:32:57Smith gets that next end started... If we cannot pick a winner in that
0:32:57 > 0:33:00time, we will go to an extra end, like we did earlier with the women's
0:33:00 > 0:33:05team.
0:33:11 > 0:33:16It must be extremely reassuring to know that you have their weight
0:33:16 > 0:33:21control in the back pocket? He has set them up well with this game.
0:33:21 > 0:33:25Just after that big shot that Kyle Smith played, the whole team are a
0:33:25 > 0:33:32little pumped and ready to finish off the game. It would be nice if
0:33:32 > 0:33:41they could for one here. -- Force one. Womack the Italians are looking
0:33:41 > 0:33:49focused, they are not down and out here.
0:33:50 > 0:33:58The corner guard goes up... Italy try and forge an opportunity to
0:33:58 > 0:34:02school with two of their own to get back into the game. It's even
0:34:02 > 0:34:12Stevens at the lead position, 91%. The line is good! The boys had to
0:34:12 > 0:34:16remember that even if they give up a two here, they have the hammer in
0:34:16 > 0:34:20the ninth, and it would be really nice if they could try and play an
0:34:20 > 0:34:26end where they have a blank. Take the hammer down the last...
0:34:26 > 0:34:30CHEERING A big roar goes up in the arena, as
0:34:30 > 0:34:36Korea put a steel on the board. The seventh end to tie the game up after
0:34:36 > 0:34:48a score of two in the sect, five each against Denmark.
0:34:48 > 0:34:51each against Denmark. It looks like a similar approach to what we saw
0:34:51 > 0:34:58from Italy in the sixth end. The men put their first score of two on the
0:34:58 > 0:35:03board in the game. They try and tap the yellow back alongside the other
0:35:03 > 0:35:15GB stone. The sweepers are trying to drag it down there.
0:35:15 > 0:35:19drag it down there. For the first time in the match, we have seen it
0:35:19 > 0:35:26getting under the skin of the Italian fourth, Lizzy.Completely
0:35:26 > 0:35:29the wrong line, probably down to the weight. You need more to tap the
0:35:29 > 0:35:36yellow back. Did not have it, it's an opportunity for Team GB to clean
0:35:36 > 0:35:40up the corner guard. That was a shot that will cause difficulty. Should
0:35:40 > 0:35:46they get one round behind it.
0:35:46 > 0:35:49they get one round behind it.It is good to see the Team GB boys
0:35:49 > 0:35:54relaxing a little bit. Even Stevens at second, 70% there. It is good to
0:35:54 > 0:35:59see them relaxing. Let's keep focused on the job in hand and not
0:35:59 > 0:36:05relax too much. A two shot lead at this stage, by no means a decisive
0:36:05 > 0:36:10margin.
0:36:10 > 0:36:14margin. You would prefer to be two shots up rather than two down!
0:36:14 > 0:36:19Certainly!
0:36:28 > 0:36:36The Italians trying to particular Don the red. -- card on the red. I
0:36:36 > 0:36:42think that Great Britain will go for it...
0:36:42 > 0:36:47it...We saw Team GB doing this the last time, they are happy to run the
0:36:47 > 0:36:54stones down. Make it difficult for Italy to score. The more Italian
0:36:54 > 0:36:58stones that they can move from play, the less likely that they will score
0:36:58 > 0:37:05a big end.We are getting a Mexican wave in the crowd, the first this
0:37:05 > 0:37:14week!The first in the Gangneung curling arena. I was lucky enough to
0:37:14 > 0:37:22be part of one in the ganging Ice Arena on the short track the last
0:37:22 > 0:37:28weekend -- Gangneung Ice Arena.
0:37:28 > 0:37:31weekend -- Gangneung Ice Arena. They would be focused on the game in
0:37:31 > 0:37:37hand, it shouldn't really be affecting them.
0:37:37 > 0:37:44affecting them. In another corner for Italy.
0:37:44 > 0:37:46for Italy. The Mexican wave is still going, a great performance by the
0:37:46 > 0:37:57home crowd! CHUCKLES All right, enough now! They will get
0:37:57 > 0:38:05tired very shortly! They will need a cat nap before the tenth end. Thomas
0:38:05 > 0:38:13Muirhead making the appeal...
0:38:13 > 0:38:19Muirhead making the appeal... Great energy shown by the home support.
0:38:22 > 0:38:26Joel Retornaz makes his way up. Italy will keep trying to protect
0:38:26 > 0:38:35that Stone in the house.
0:38:43 > 0:38:47They have been putting it in pretty much the perfect spot over the last
0:38:47 > 0:38:51couple of stones. More of the same and as Jackie said, they keep
0:38:51 > 0:38:56running the stones down before they make a move. Giving Team GB as
0:38:56 > 0:39:04little time as possible to make a double. That was overdone there. Not
0:39:04 > 0:39:12at all covering the red in the house.8% between those statistics.
0:39:12 > 0:39:18It could be the beginning, where we see a two shot gap between the two
0:39:18 > 0:39:22teams on the scoreboard. A great performance so far from Thomas
0:39:22 > 0:39:30Muirhead. A slightly different delivery. A more classical delivery.
0:39:30 > 0:39:37We call it the Manitoba tarp, where your knees are over the front bed.
0:39:37 > 0:39:45-- the Manitoba tuck.
0:39:46 > 0:39:48-- the Manitoba tuck. A lot of speed making in delivering the stone like
0:39:48 > 0:39:56that.Thomas would like to have rolled right between these two
0:39:56 > 0:40:10yellows. But there is an opportunity for a takeout on these two yellows.
0:40:18 > 0:40:32Or is he looking at tapping them back? Trying to create a nest.
0:40:33 > 0:40:40We shouldn't get too excited. GB lying in three. They gave up a score
0:40:40 > 0:40:53of two. There is still work to be done here. After some discussion
0:40:53 > 0:41:05they are looking to catch the yellow and catch a little role. They have
0:41:05 > 0:41:21the guard. They have to utilise it. A sneaky fleck.
0:41:22 > 0:41:29A sneaky fleck. It hasn't been catching well at all.
0:41:52 > 0:41:57It should be a straightforward takeout for Kyle Smith. Said it a
0:41:57 > 0:42:01couple of games ago. It really spurned the opportunity. Hopefully
0:42:01 > 0:42:08he has learned from that one. A couple of lovely takeouts with the
0:42:08 > 0:42:14last end anyway. Suggesting it is the case.
0:42:16 > 0:42:21the case. The sweepers will tire on this one. Trying to keep it
0:42:21 > 0:42:26straight. Get this red pass the yellow. It was over curled again.
0:42:26 > 0:42:38That is a big mistake by the GB skip. It seems there is a silly shot
0:42:38 > 0:42:48that brings Italy right back into it.It is a missed opportunity, two
0:42:48 > 0:43:02yellows. Making it very difficult. It is another gifted opportunity to
0:43:02 > 0:43:13the Italians.
0:43:15 > 0:43:21We should see a double takeout here. He will want the shooter to lie.
0:43:21 > 0:43:29That has too happen if he wants to create two here.Throwing a lot of
0:43:29 > 0:43:34his weight behind this. That was way too much, a missed opportunity.
0:43:34 > 0:43:40Going from one side to the other. He is looking a little agitated out
0:43:40 > 0:43:46there at the moment, Amos Mosaner. A couple of mistakes are creeping into
0:43:46 > 0:43:53the Italian performance. Whether it is getting the better of him...
0:43:53 > 0:44:00Maybe he plays golf in the summer? Swinging his brush around anyway.
0:44:00 > 0:44:09Kyle Smith should be able to see this red stone. It should be happy
0:44:09 > 0:44:21enough for Italy to blank here. Going past the guard... He has
0:44:21 > 0:44:29courted, can you believe it? Come on...Sat right behind the shot. I
0:44:29 > 0:44:34thought from the moment he let it go, it was tight. Just a fuse slack
0:44:34 > 0:44:44shots, it was a get out of jail free card. The possibility of rolling the
0:44:44 > 0:44:53end, in taking the hammer into the ninth end... Italy would have taken
0:44:53 > 0:45:01it into the ninth there. A simple draw for two here for Italy. It will
0:45:01 > 0:45:08be a score of two for Italy. Disappointing for Kyle Smith. GB
0:45:08 > 0:45:12will concede a couple of shots. I think we could see Kyle Smith
0:45:12 > 0:45:20getting a bit of a telling off from the officials there.
0:45:24 > 0:45:37It changes things for GB so much. Five each.
0:45:39 > 0:45:45Five each. You can hear the boys rallying around to support Kyle. The
0:45:45 > 0:45:54game is not over. Two Moore ends to go.
0:45:54 > 0:46:01go.A lot of panic on the face of Kyle Smith there.
0:46:01 > 0:46:03Kyle Smith there. He is starting to get angry and miss shots as a
0:46:03 > 0:46:12result. You want to keep making shots. The Italians can be quite
0:46:12 > 0:46:19over excitable. I think we were beginning to put pressure on and
0:46:19 > 0:46:22they were making mistakes, but we are not capitalising at the moment
0:46:22 > 0:46:28and that is a real shame.
0:46:36 > 0:46:40Just taking two is back and forth in the last few ends. Italy scored two
0:46:40 > 0:46:47in the sixth and the eighth end and GP had one of their own in the
0:46:47 > 0:46:52seventh -- GB.
0:46:56 > 0:46:59seventh -- GB. Jackie, the boys are playing well at the moment. They
0:46:59 > 0:47:06just need to have a few finishing touches.
0:47:06 > 0:47:12touches.Yeah, Cammy is setting the end up well. They just have to
0:47:12 > 0:47:18remember that and use each other to support one another. If Kyle is
0:47:18 > 0:47:23having a bad game, try and keep him involved, talk him through the shot
0:47:23 > 0:47:27before he plays it. There must be lots of things to do to support one
0:47:27 > 0:47:35another. Think about plan B if plan A isn't going to work. He didn't
0:47:35 > 0:47:39have too sit on the nose of that shot. I realise he couldn't see a
0:47:39 > 0:47:44loss of it, but he only had to catch the outside of it.Do you think
0:47:44 > 0:47:51those shots are still playing on his mind? For sure. You will know
0:47:51 > 0:47:53yourself, being a skip, that sometimes it is difficult to get rid
0:47:53 > 0:47:58of the shots that you have played badly. But that is why we have
0:47:58 > 0:48:01psychologists in the sport, to mentally help you progress and
0:48:01 > 0:48:08calculate what you have done wrong to improve it for the next game.
0:48:19 > 0:48:23Kyle Smith is taking a bit of time-out and watching the game next
0:48:23 > 0:48:32door, trying to end the stewing. Sometimes it's better to have that
0:48:32 > 0:48:37kind of close proximity of discussion. You don't want to give
0:48:37 > 0:48:43away your game plan. Not if you are a Canadian or American, because they
0:48:43 > 0:48:47do like to give away their game plan and to the opposition what they are
0:48:47 > 0:48:51going to play and what the opposition is going to play. They
0:48:51 > 0:48:57had a little confab to decide what to do. All of the team have to want
0:48:57 > 0:49:03to do the same thing.
0:49:14 > 0:49:25They are really curling at the end here.
0:49:29 > 0:49:32I think they are looking for something in a similar position
0:49:32 > 0:49:37here.
0:49:37 > 0:49:45here. Kyle Waddell keeping his eyes up, trying to judge the distance.
0:49:53 > 0:50:00They didn't want that short of the house. No, they needed it right in.
0:50:00 > 0:50:07Sitting on top of their own yellow would have been great.
0:50:12 > 0:50:19would have been great. Italy choose to come round the other side.
0:50:26 > 0:50:39Coming down the other side of the sheet this time, Simone Gonin.
0:50:39 > 0:50:41sheet this time, Simone Gonin. They would like this one to stay in front
0:50:41 > 0:50:47of the TV line. As Jackie mentioned, lots of curl. A bit of a let off
0:50:47 > 0:50:58here for GB.That is going a little too far. What a curl that took one
0:50:58 > 0:51:04came into the house.
0:51:04 > 0:51:10came into the house. Kyle Waddell is going to remove the red stone we
0:51:10 > 0:51:20see.Got a fortunate result out of that. I don't think he meant to
0:51:20 > 0:51:31leave his shooter out there.
0:51:32 > 0:51:36There are a few yellow stone is kicking around and just the one red
0:51:36 > 0:51:46of Italy. Right next door, USA against Norway.
0:51:48 > 0:51:53against Norway. Norway are in their red, floral fancy pants today.Yeah,
0:51:53 > 0:51:58the Norwegians must have a whole suitcase of fancy pants. They have a
0:51:58 > 0:52:05different power on every day.
0:52:10 > 0:52:17They would have liked that to come a bit further in.
0:52:19 > 0:52:29bit further in. There was an opportunity
0:52:29 > 0:52:39opportunity for a slash on the yellow.What a shot. They love the
0:52:39 > 0:52:47result.Apologies again for the foul language. A little bit of excitement
0:52:47 > 0:52:53coming in. But that was a wonderful shot.
0:52:54 > 0:53:07shot.Hit its sweet as a nut.Great result.
0:53:11 > 0:53:17Italy still lie one shot at the moment, though. They don't nearly
0:53:17 > 0:53:24have the same amount of protection that they did before, though.
0:53:43 > 0:53:54This will be a long guard.
0:53:58 > 0:54:03He kicked the yellow stone, but he has replaced it back to where he
0:54:03 > 0:54:07thought it was, which GB are allowed to let because he has confirmed that
0:54:07 > 0:54:18he kicked it accidentally.
0:54:23 > 0:54:31Thomas Muirhead makes the peel nicely.
0:54:31 > 0:54:40It is going to be more of the same for Italy.
0:54:40 > 0:54:43for Italy. It has been a common theme from one end to another of
0:54:43 > 0:54:50Italy throwing guards and then GB claimed appeals. -- playing the
0:54:50 > 0:54:53peels.
0:55:05 > 0:55:13Let's see if they get the job done.
0:55:13 > 0:55:20There might be more deliberation over this one. What would be nice is
0:55:20 > 0:55:26a nice, controlled way, with the opportunity that you can hold it,
0:55:26 > 0:55:43push the red back.Looks like you're going to get that, Jackie.
0:55:48 > 0:56:00A good shot by Thomas Muirhead. That was a nice try. At least they gave
0:56:00 > 0:56:07at every opportunity. The fact that it stayed in the house is good. It
0:56:07 > 0:56:21is fully visible to Italy, so they could get a hit and roll.
0:56:21 > 0:56:23could get a hit and roll.We were talking about how the stones can
0:56:23 > 0:56:27swing more as the game goes on. The sliding track is where the players
0:56:27 > 0:56:36deliver the stone up the middle of the playing area. It has had a bit
0:56:36 > 0:56:47of the pebble knocked off and the stones are curling a bit more. Amos
0:56:47 > 0:56:50Moss and -- Amos Mosaner looking to match the stone play by Thomas
0:56:50 > 0:56:55Muirhead.
0:56:56 > 0:57:15Muirhead.And he has. There is a fair bit of tension out there today.
0:57:15 > 0:57:21He is frustrated because he feels like he made that shot but it was
0:57:21 > 0:57:25slightly misjudged. All of a sudden, GB can see the poking its nose out
0:57:25 > 0:57:31of the other side.He led a very good stone, but we already knew that
0:57:31 > 0:57:37once the weight comes off it, there is a lot of movement. We saw Thomas'
0:57:37 > 0:57:46do the same thing.
0:57:46 > 0:57:50do the same thing. We have our first final score of session eight. It is
0:57:50 > 0:57:53Sweden disposing of Japan with consummate ease with a score of five
0:57:53 > 0:58:01in the eighth end to win 11-4. So Sweden go to six and zero, still
0:58:01 > 0:58:04perfect this week. And Japan go to three wins and three losses, which
0:58:04 > 0:58:11is good for GB. With a win here against Italy, we can join Japan. We
0:58:11 > 0:58:16have already played and beaten them, so we have a better ranking over
0:58:16 > 0:58:26them.
0:58:31 > 0:58:37That took a long time before it wanted to make contact with the red
0:58:37 > 0:58:50stone. I think he has done enough.
0:58:50 > 0:58:56That could be a handy one later. Just two stones to come here in the
0:58:56 > 0:59:06ninth end.
0:59:19 > 0:59:26Well, this is a huge shot here for Amos Mosaner.
0:59:30 > 0:59:35Amos Mosaner. Going for the more adventurous shot here. They know
0:59:35 > 0:59:43they need to force GB to score one here in the ninth end.
1:00:04 > 1:00:12That looks like a draw for two for GB.There is a high red guard, which
1:00:12 > 1:00:26means you can't chip that red out, so...
1:00:27 > 1:00:35A draw to four is what we are looking for. We have to be careful,
1:00:35 > 1:00:39if he does not get right to the brush here, and give it a full
1:00:39 > 1:00:43opportunity, there is a huge swing as it comes into the house. We saw
1:00:43 > 1:00:50the Italian shot, make a real drive towards the left hand side there.
1:00:50 > 1:00:56Right across the line...This is the final stone of the ninth end. I
1:00:56 > 1:01:01think they would be quite pleased seeing the draw, the takeout has not
1:01:01 > 1:01:04been very accurate in the last couple of ends.Does he need to
1:01:04 > 1:01:11catch this, will it stop? I don't think it is going to stop.Trying to
1:01:11 > 1:01:20sweep it through...It is too heavy! Oh, dear.Another missed
1:01:20 > 1:01:22opportunity, a real shame. The guys thought about catching the edge of
1:01:22 > 1:01:32the yellow but they were too late. The pool is so big there.Karl Smith
1:01:32 > 1:01:36is struggling to get the job done for Team GB. They are still in the
1:01:36 > 1:01:48lead after nine ends by one shot.
1:01:49 > 1:01:57Denmark scored three in the eighth end. Taking an 8-5 lead against the
1:01:57 > 1:02:05informal Korean side. Korea defeated Team GB yesterday -- in form. Giving
1:02:05 > 1:02:11them a third loss. Korea with their third of the week. It looks like
1:02:11 > 1:02:16Korea will go to one wing and five losses whereas Denmark will move up
1:02:16 > 1:02:25to two and four. It is a real shame, for Team GB. The score of two.
1:02:25 > 1:02:31Surely they would have been able to run the game home? Now it is a bit
1:02:31 > 1:02:35of a 50-50.I would have been more comfortable if I saw two on the
1:02:35 > 1:02:40scoreboard there.
1:02:41 > 1:02:43scoreboard there.Looking at it statistically, generally, a team
1:02:43 > 1:02:48with a 1-shot lead, coming home without the hammer, that would be
1:02:48 > 1:02:52about 60% of the time they win. We do have an advantage here. Not a
1:02:52 > 1:02:58very big one.
1:02:58 > 1:03:02very big one.Italy have, a couple of times, created and made two.
1:03:02 > 1:03:09That's what we need to be careful of.It is a shame his younger
1:03:09 > 1:03:15brother Kami wasn't throwing that. He has had a good game but
1:03:15 > 1:03:22unfortunately that is the story of curling. The four man team...There
1:03:22 > 1:03:29is a great deal more pressure on that final shot at the end. The job
1:03:29 > 1:03:35well done.Sometimes there are those high and technical shots and
1:03:35 > 1:03:40sometimes the pressure, the simplest shot there. It is the pressure of
1:03:40 > 1:03:46playing the last stone.Still all to play for for both teams. A 1-shot
1:03:46 > 1:03:54game. Both teams on two wins and three losses. With a win... Either
1:03:54 > 1:04:00team could very much stay in the hunt for the semis, two and four
1:04:00 > 1:04:06would be a long way back. You would not be down and out.Really having
1:04:06 > 1:04:11to work this out. Take it as far as you can. Guarding the red and in the
1:04:11 > 1:04:18house. Well swept.
1:04:24 > 1:04:32Italy with a tap back on the yellow stone here for the second
1:04:32 > 1:04:38stone here for the second stone of Daniele Ferrazza.
1:04:40 > 1:04:44Daniele Ferrazza. How frustrating can it be, Jackie, to know that you
1:04:44 > 1:04:48have been there. You have been the better team and had the upper hand
1:04:48 > 1:04:52but it does not tell on the scoreboard? It must be really
1:04:52 > 1:04:57frustrating. It will be telling on Kyle Smith at the moment. Down to a
1:04:57 > 1:05:02few of his stones that he has not executed well. He must be
1:05:02 > 1:05:05frustrated, the rest of the guys have played so well and set up those
1:05:05 > 1:05:11ends for him. That is the story of the week so far. You need the four
1:05:11 > 1:05:19guys to all play at the same time. What has happened here?
1:05:23 > 1:05:36What has happened here?I can only assume that the stone was burnt. I
1:05:36 > 1:05:41think Amos Mosaner reared up. The handle stops on it. It is rotating
1:05:41 > 1:05:49quite quickly there. A little kick and the handle stops.Did we think
1:05:49 > 1:05:54it would hit the guard, what do we think?I'm not sure, I don't think
1:05:54 > 1:05:58it was going to hit the guard. My goodness, it has been a day of
1:05:58 > 1:06:08controversy.
1:06:13 > 1:06:19Well, it is a little bit of a negotiation. It is quite nice to
1:06:19 > 1:06:25see. That is not what happened between Canada and Denmark earlier
1:06:25 > 1:06:30in the week.It is a running stone, they burnt it and they should remove
1:06:30 > 1:06:34it. Fair play if there are some stones in the house coming to rest,
1:06:34 > 1:06:41and the turgid, you know what it is going to do. Did he catch the
1:06:41 > 1:06:46running stone or did his foot catch a different stone? If you are
1:06:46 > 1:06:48wondering whether the time clocks are still running, they have
1:06:48 > 1:06:54stopped. It is a technical time-out situation. Players are waiting to
1:06:54 > 1:07:02see another replay. As they are down at the playing end of the ice. You
1:07:02 > 1:07:11are not the director, Kyle! He kicks it there. It is over the hog line.
1:07:11 > 1:07:29Did he touch it with his brush? His left foot just stalled it.
1:07:30 > 1:07:38It has touched just after the hog line. The official comes in to help
1:07:38 > 1:07:41decipher the situation. If it is a running stone, Italy have touched
1:07:41 > 1:07:46their own running stone and it is burnt and it should be removed.
1:07:46 > 1:07:57Yes... What a pressure for these young boys to be put under. You
1:07:57 > 1:08:08could have added weight. It could have landed there.
1:08:08 > 1:08:10have landed there.If I am totally honest, in my opinion, I don't
1:08:10 > 1:08:14really think it would have changed the trajectory of the stone that
1:08:14 > 1:08:22much.No, but whether it does or not, if you are
1:08:25 > 1:08:29not, if you are playing if you touch it with your brush, it you say you
1:08:29 > 1:08:32touched it and you move it. I realise it was getting close to the
1:08:32 > 1:08:40house but it wasn't in it. Real pressure put on there. The opposing
1:08:40 > 1:08:45skip has the decision, what they want to do with it.Another thing to
1:08:45 > 1:08:49consider is although the red stone is in the house, it could well be
1:08:49 > 1:08:53helping Team GB! But I am happy to see that they have not actually
1:08:53 > 1:08:57removed it in some ways. It has been a bone of contention this week
1:08:57 > 1:09:06already.It would have been a huge pressure for Kyle. I sometimes think
1:09:06 > 1:09:10the person who burnt the stone should be the one to remove it.And
1:09:10 > 1:09:14Rachel Homan decided to take one of those stones. It came back to bite
1:09:14 > 1:09:24her in the backside! They had some bad, and ended up losing. Hopefully
1:09:24 > 1:09:33the gods will look favourably on decision from Kyle Smith.
1:09:36 > 1:09:42decision from Kyle Smith. Back to the game in hand...
1:09:43 > 1:09:47the game in hand...It was nice that it was handled amicably online. It
1:09:47 > 1:10:00is up to you to make a decision as to what to do.
1:10:02 > 1:10:08They are having to work this hard... Are they going to take it in? Is it
1:10:08 > 1:10:13going to be in?
1:10:15 > 1:10:22going to be in? Just!It is a big decision for Kyle Smith. Time to
1:10:22 > 1:10:28tidy things up... Or it is time to go for it.Because of the angle of
1:10:28 > 1:10:39the Reds there, you could put another guard on.
1:10:41 > 1:10:47I don't know whether it has gone that far in...Thomas wants to throw
1:10:47 > 1:11:02a guard in and take the game down. What do you like?Long or intern.
1:11:02 > 1:11:12You are making him draw the white. That is good for us at the moment...
1:11:12 > 1:11:18We cannot slip too far and leave him...
1:11:19 > 1:11:24him...Yes, that has tried to prevent them from getting in close
1:11:24 > 1:11:30to the other one. Four feet there. Makes it harder for Italy to get
1:11:30 > 1:11:35through. That is good. Those stone placements are key. They don't want
1:11:35 > 1:11:47to come in too far. They've really got to be on the 12 Foot Circle.
1:11:52 > 1:11:53got to be on the 12 Foot Circle.A good early call from the sweepers to
1:11:53 > 1:12:00tell Kyle Smith that it isn't quite what they were looking for, the
1:12:00 > 1:12:06weight.They want to set...
1:12:22 > 1:12:27Italy looking to see if they want to come down and catch the edge of
1:12:27 > 1:12:35their own red. Try and split them to opposite ends of the house. Or
1:12:35 > 1:12:43whether they come down to the other side. They sit in the corner. All of
1:12:43 > 1:12:49the decisions are slowing right down, the end is almost grinding to
1:12:49 > 1:12:56a halt. Both teams understanding the gravity of this situation. The next
1:12:56 > 1:13:06eight or ten stones. The next is crucial. Whatever team wins the
1:13:06 > 1:13:18game. They are still very much in contention.
1:13:18 > 1:13:22Coming down on the intern, trying to do something a little nifty and
1:13:22 > 1:13:28moving them around. This is the line that Kyle Smith came down earlier.
1:13:28 > 1:13:41Does he pass? Nope!Kyle Smith tries to encourage it in. He just catches
1:13:41 > 1:13:50it.He plays enough weight, it is still in the house.
1:13:50 > 1:13:53still in the house.I do not think that Team GB will want any more of
1:13:53 > 1:14:01their stones to build up. It glances off the guard and back. Team GB can
1:14:01 > 1:14:08play a take out here.
1:14:08 > 1:14:15play a take out here. You have to be careful. This part of the ice here,
1:14:15 > 1:14:22are we passed the guard? Well done! That was nice and well played. It
1:14:22 > 1:14:29looks like it was pulling hard. Both teams were wary. Italy calling a
1:14:29 > 1:14:34time out here.
1:14:34 > 1:14:39time out here. The coach begins to make his way down. He used to be the
1:14:39 > 1:14:45Team GB men's coach for the British curling programme. A great story for
1:14:45 > 1:14:50you, Jackie. He played in two Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992. Both
1:14:50 > 1:14:58when it was a demonstration sport, so no medals. Soren Gram did not win
1:14:58 > 1:15:10a game in 1992.No way?I will remind him of that later on!And
1:15:10 > 1:15:22playing for Sweden?Try on the side that you want to be at...
1:15:24 > 1:15:30Do you want to play the double?
1:15:38 > 1:15:50I think it is too dangerous to play...
1:15:50 > 1:15:58If you try that one, how are you going to get rid of all the stones?
1:15:58 > 1:16:05Try to hit...
1:16:05 > 1:16:08Soren Gran always has a clear opinion on things and isn't scared
1:16:08 > 1:16:14to voice it. It looks like they are potentially going to peel the guards
1:16:14 > 1:16:19here.
1:16:19 > 1:16:25here.At the moment, the guards are the danger shot to them, because
1:16:25 > 1:16:28it's not making it easy for them to get into that GB yellow in the
1:16:28 > 1:16:33centre.
1:16:39 > 1:16:50So we will be looking to lift both of these.
1:17:04 > 1:17:07As you said, Joel Retornaz doesn't play a heavyweight. He had two
1:17:07 > 1:17:18stones he had to remove.
1:17:27 > 1:17:34You would have two hit it on the nose or just a little high.If we go
1:17:34 > 1:17:45here, what's he doing?Where to put your shot.Where are probably dead
1:17:45 > 1:17:50garden this one. When you first start learning how to defend a one
1:17:50 > 1:17:57shot lead coming home, you're taught to make sure you get rid of all the
1:17:57 > 1:18:00opposition stones. You don't give them a chance to hide anything
1:18:00 > 1:18:03behind. But when you get to the elite level, it's not quite as
1:18:03 > 1:18:10simple.
1:18:10 > 1:18:15simple.What is good for us is that the two reds at the front are not
1:18:15 > 1:18:29separated. They are angled together. It depends how you hit it.
1:18:32 > 1:18:41They are putting another guard on here.
1:18:41 > 1:18:49here. He has done what was asked of him.It helps that GB are lying
1:18:49 > 1:18:54three, not just two. So it makes it easier to call that guard. They have
1:18:54 > 1:18:57a lot of work to do to bring those reds at the front into a scoring
1:18:57 > 1:19:10position.They only have three stones left.
1:19:10 > 1:19:12stones left.As the Italians finish their discussions, we can confirm
1:19:12 > 1:19:22another final score on sheet D. Norway have finished off the USA to
1:19:22 > 1:19:31win 8-5. Norway are up to three wins and three losses. The United States
1:19:31 > 1:19:42of America will move to two and four.
1:19:44 > 1:19:50Italy have decided to come down here and catch their own red and roll the
1:19:50 > 1:19:56shooter across the other side to make some separation.
1:20:08 > 1:20:16A nice shot by Joel Retornaz. It will be easier for them to get at
1:20:16 > 1:20:22that shot stone now.
1:20:22 > 1:20:26that shot stone now. It is a very intriguing tenth end here. Still
1:20:26 > 1:20:31looks like it could go either way. Seems to be going in slow motion at
1:20:31 > 1:20:34the moment because there are a lot of discussions. The guys have plenty
1:20:34 > 1:20:40of time on the clock to have these discussions. So a nice, controlled
1:20:40 > 1:20:49weight here. Tap that red through, get a role on the centre line.
1:20:54 > 1:21:00Kyle needs to concentrate here.
1:21:07 > 1:21:13Kyle needs to gather himself after a few errant stones in the second
1:21:13 > 1:21:18half.
1:21:24 > 1:21:28Up and down with the brushes is usually a good sign. A well-placed
1:21:28 > 1:21:34shot.
1:21:39 > 1:21:53How are Italy going to magic a score of two out of this?
1:21:58 > 1:22:07The GB two yellow stands out count the red on the other side.
1:22:14 > 1:22:20He could come down either side and get the four foot, or he could try
1:22:20 > 1:22:25the double.
1:22:31 > 1:22:36The difficulty for Italy is that they don't have a great chance to
1:22:36 > 1:22:46score two at the moment. They need to think about going for the one.
1:22:48 > 1:22:51to think about going for the one. I guess this isn't a bad call, because
1:22:51 > 1:22:59it could open up the four foot for them. Here is this monstrous takeout
1:22:59 > 1:23:14weight that Amos Mosaner can play. Leaves a stone in the eight foot.
1:23:14 > 1:23:19Maybe if you put Joel's weight and Amos' weight together, that might be
1:23:19 > 1:23:24a better weight. That is real heavy granite here's pushing. And it
1:23:24 > 1:23:31didn't work out for him. You can see in his face.
1:23:32 > 1:23:35in his face.Kyle Smith is going for the straightforward shots, which may
1:23:35 > 1:23:40be the best course of action, given the struggles he has faced in this
1:23:40 > 1:23:46second half of the game.
1:23:46 > 1:23:50second half of the game. Could play the draw around if he wanted to turn
1:23:50 > 1:24:00up the pressure.
1:24:01 > 1:24:10It is a very well played tenth end.
1:24:10 > 1:24:17I am not sure when the last time Amos Mosaner through a draw was.
1:24:17 > 1:24:22Yeah, because he is going to play a hit here. I thought he might have
1:24:22 > 1:24:25plagued the draw. This is the kind of shot baskets have to have in
1:24:25 > 1:24:31their back pocket. -- the kind of shop the skips need to have.
1:24:42 > 1:24:55He has just scraped past. That end must have taken about half an hour,
1:24:55 > 1:25:02between bloodstone controversies -- burnt stone controversies and long
1:25:02 > 1:25:05discussions. But it is a tied game and we will need an extra end to
1:25:05 > 1:25:13break this one up. CLARE BALDING: Another exciting game
1:25:13 > 1:25:16in the curling. Jackie and Logan, how crucial is it that Great Britain
1:25:16 > 1:25:20win this match? Where are they in relation to the other teams? You
1:25:20 > 1:25:26have all the other games going on the other sheets the moment.Yeah,
1:25:26 > 1:25:30it's critical that we win this game. We are only sitting on two wins at
1:25:30 > 1:25:37the moment and we need to get three. Italy are sitting on the same score,
1:25:37 > 1:25:41so both teams desperately want to get the win. We have to hammer going
1:25:41 > 1:25:46down the extra end, so let's make sure we get a win and we go three in
1:25:46 > 1:25:52three and keep ourselves alive in this competition.Great stuff, let's
1:25:52 > 1:26:03let you take us through the extra end.
1:26:03 > 1:26:08Daniele Ferrazza is ready to start this extra end for Italy. You feel
1:26:08 > 1:26:11that GB probably should be out of sight and the game should be over by
1:26:11 > 1:26:16now. It has been a great performance by the GB team, but Kyle Smith
1:26:16 > 1:26:26struggled to put the final touches on in the second half of this game.
1:26:27 > 1:26:31GB have already come through an extra end of their in the first game
1:26:31 > 1:26:39of the event, beating Switzerland. Cammy Smith played two wonderful
1:26:39 > 1:26:48shots to set things up for GB. More of the same, please, Cammy. I
1:26:48 > 1:26:53believe he did the same against Japan as well.He did. And it looks
1:26:53 > 1:26:59like this is another lovely shot. I personally think he should get five
1:26:59 > 1:27:08points for that. That is one of the best ones yet. Really opening up the
1:27:08 > 1:27:13centre line. The more open it is in the middle, the more easy it will be
1:27:13 > 1:27:28for Kyle Smith on the GB skip, to drop one in to win the game.
1:27:35 > 1:27:45Looks like Cammy Smith will be going for a sixth one. Just a reminder
1:27:45 > 1:27:50that GB can't remove the opposition stones because the Freegard is in
1:27:50 > 1:27:54play. Rather, they are just removing them to the side. Any violation of
1:27:54 > 1:27:59that rule would result in the GB stone being removed and the Italian
1:27:59 > 1:28:09stone being replaced.
1:28:10 > 1:28:20He hit that one a bit thicker.Did that one touch or did it not? It is
1:28:20 > 1:28:28touching the foam.
1:28:28 > 1:28:36touching the foam. What a day we are having here! The noise in the crowd
1:28:36 > 1:28:41is because they are cheering Korea, who picked up a two to go 8-8 into
1:28:41 > 1:28:50an extra end with Denmark. His head is over the top of that, but surely
1:28:50 > 1:28:59if it touches the foam at all... It's in the way.Great shot by Cammy
1:28:59 > 1:29:06Smith. Six for six here at the Olympic Games. You won't make them
1:29:06 > 1:29:10too much better than that. Absolutely on the money. You
1:29:10 > 1:29:15couldn't fit a bit of paper between that and the edge of the sheet. As
1:29:15 > 1:29:19an official, you might spend whole event is doing nothing apart from
1:29:19 > 1:29:28the odd measure. But they official in this game has been a busy boy!
1:29:32 > 1:29:37We talked about karma in the previous end. Kyle Smith was good
1:29:37 > 1:29:41enough to leave the Italian stone after it had been burnt. Maybe that
1:29:41 > 1:29:48is then getting we paid for that decision, that it stays in play by a
1:29:48 > 1:29:59fraction of a millimetre. Nice shot. Kyle Waddell clearing up well. The
1:29:59 > 1:30:02less stones in play, the better for GB. They just want to keep things
1:30:02 > 1:30:09clear.I am sure the boys can see a finish here. Everybody is playing
1:30:09 > 1:30:20well in this end. Fabulously set up by Cammy Smith. Played two beautiful
1:30:20 > 1:30:26shots, and then Kyle Waddell clearing up.
1:30:26 > 1:30:30Minor errors are jangling a little bit. I cannot imagine how Kyle Smith
1:30:30 > 1:30:38feels down there!Only two stone is left to play each. Play them well!
1:30:38 > 1:30:42Support your colleague, who is following you can ask something of
1:30:42 > 1:30:53your team-mates.
1:30:54 > 1:31:03That was nicely done, going for the appeal here... Denmark were two up
1:31:03 > 1:31:08with the hammer coming home. They gave up a steel of two to even
1:31:08 > 1:31:16things up with Korea. 8-8 there. I do not think the game makes much
1:31:16 > 1:31:20difference to the Team GB at the moment. Both of those teams on one
1:31:20 > 1:31:24win and four losses. Really needing to win out, to have any chance of
1:31:24 > 1:31:29making the play-offs.
1:31:38 > 1:31:42Italy deciding they will not play a centre guard, they will come around
1:31:42 > 1:31:51these corners and try and pull Great Britain away from the centre. By
1:31:51 > 1:31:57doing this, they are still leaving it open for Kyle Smith, to then draw
1:31:57 > 1:32:03for his final stone.
1:32:03 > 1:32:08for his final stone.A change in approach from Italy. They are not
1:32:08 > 1:32:13going for the centre guard, as they have with previous stones. They will
1:32:13 > 1:32:20try and draw one around to the wing. The general thinking here, why have
1:32:20 > 1:32:28they decided to do this? The boys are just playing so well and clear.
1:32:28 > 1:32:32They are not going to get that mistake from them, it is no benefit.
1:32:32 > 1:32:38If they put it to the wing here. They may get a mistake from the boys
1:32:38 > 1:32:44and probably will put another centre up. Two in the house, to make it
1:32:44 > 1:32:56more difficult for those guys... Time-out is called. I'm thinking if
1:32:56 > 1:33:00I was playing against Kyle at the moment, his hitting hasn't been very
1:33:00 > 1:33:04good. If you face two on the last stone, you may get the hit that you
1:33:04 > 1:33:11are looking for.
1:33:11 > 1:33:15are looking for.Just draw it over here... And let them make you face
1:33:15 > 1:33:21through them. And plant one there.I do not see any risk in this. Even if
1:33:21 > 1:33:28they land up here, are you going to go around that one again? It is
1:33:28 > 1:33:30interesting, the guys are saying that they do not want to face two
1:33:30 > 1:33:34but at the end of the day, if you are doing that and you have the
1:33:34 > 1:33:38whole of the four third to draw too, you should have the confidence to do
1:33:38 > 1:33:46that. A tiny lack of confidence that they could be lying against two. --
1:33:46 > 1:33:52four foot. Let's hear
1:33:52 > 1:33:56four foot. Let's hear what Viktor has to say...What if you put it
1:33:56 > 1:34:02open on this side? Like somewhere around there. If you freeze that
1:34:02 > 1:34:13one... It doesn't change that much. That is a good comment. It is the
1:34:13 > 1:34:20same shot either way. This way we could lie one. If we make it good...
1:34:20 > 1:34:29OK.I don't mind either.There is no point in appealing this...It is a
1:34:29 > 1:34:32reflection of what a good position they are in. Because of those great
1:34:32 > 1:34:39shots from Cammy Smith.
1:34:39 > 1:34:41shots from Cammy Smith. You can see in the middle of the sheet it is
1:34:41 > 1:34:49wide open. Thomas Muirhead looking for a draw, beside the red stone,
1:34:49 > 1:34:55two out counted. They know that Italy will face two shots with the
1:34:55 > 1:35:01last stone for Team GB.
1:35:03 > 1:35:10last stone for Team GB.Don't touch it!It looks a little pacey.
1:35:10 > 1:35:13it!It looks a little pacey.It looks a lot pacey. This looks like a
1:35:13 > 1:35:20ten...The ten being on the back line. The guys have numbers
1:35:20 > 1:35:25throughout the sheet there. Sevens at the top of the house. When you
1:35:25 > 1:35:34get into eight... Four, five, six, seven... Tens through the back. But
1:35:34 > 1:35:41there will be more important shots in this end than that one.
1:35:41 > 1:35:44Everything is wide open. It is a mistake but it will not really
1:35:44 > 1:35:52affect them, I don't think. It shouldn't. Not when you have an
1:35:52 > 1:35:57eight foot at the moment but even if he had another one on the other
1:35:57 > 1:36:06side, the whole house is open. Does he put a short one on, that is the
1:36:06 > 1:36:09question.Soren Gram has coached a few different nations over the
1:36:09 > 1:36:17years. I will be more kind to him this time! He coached the David
1:36:17 > 1:36:23Murdoch team from GB to the metal in Sochi.Did coaching for Great
1:36:23 > 1:36:34Britain, or Scotland as it was before...
1:36:38 > 1:36:45If you are going to make it, make it there. And play that. Depending on
1:36:45 > 1:36:48where you want to put it, do you want to put it further this way, or
1:36:48 > 1:36:53that way?
1:36:54 > 1:36:59that way?Maybe if we are lucky... That one is not dangerous for you.
1:36:59 > 1:37:08Maybe not. What do you think? Do you want centre?Centre. I prefer it a
1:37:08 > 1:37:14little more this way.
1:37:20 > 1:37:29Well, they have one in the house. Soren Gram's suggested they have a
1:37:29 > 1:37:36centre guard. Some play between the Italian boys there.
1:37:39 > 1:37:42Italian boys there. Where are they looking to plonk this one? They are
1:37:42 > 1:37:48just going to come off centre.
1:37:48 > 1:37:52just going to come off centre. Just be a little to the side. If the
1:37:52 > 1:38:09center line. -- of the center line. Joel Retornaz here...I think it
1:38:09 > 1:38:14will sit on the center line. Will it come across? Sometimes you want to
1:38:14 > 1:38:18take it off the center line. It is easy for a player to slide up the
1:38:18 > 1:38:26centre. And peel them off.
1:38:26 > 1:38:30centre. And peel them off.It is almost the same situation each way!
1:38:30 > 1:38:35Cool!
1:38:36 > 1:38:38Cool!This time, Thomas Muirhead will try and rip the centre guard
1:38:38 > 1:38:42onto the
1:38:45 > 1:38:51width one. It would be a bonus if he can get one in the house... A little
1:38:51 > 1:38:56too thin. Chipping it over the top. It is the same situation this time
1:38:56 > 1:39:04for Italy. And just four stones to come here in this 11th end, the
1:39:04 > 1:39:09extra end.
1:39:10 > 1:39:12extra end.The Italians debated whereabouts they would like the
1:39:12 > 1:39:17stone to stop. They knew they had to put it across and remove the stone
1:39:17 > 1:39:24from the house. They wanted to make Kyle face the stone. Even there it
1:39:24 > 1:39:27sat in the wings, they wanted something in the house, to put a bit
1:39:27 > 1:39:36of tension and that last stone, for Kyle...
1:39:38 > 1:39:47Kyle...It is a similar shot here for Amos Mosaner.
1:39:58 > 1:40:03They have full confidence in Kyle here. His take-out play hasn't been
1:40:03 > 1:40:06spectacular in the second half of this game but it should be
1:40:06 > 1:40:10straightforward. Doesn't need to be very accurate with this one at all
1:40:10 > 1:40:17to make it go away and run the shooter out of harm's way.He wants
1:40:17 > 1:40:22to make it go away and connect with it, for sure. You don't want to stay
1:40:22 > 1:40:32up there either. When you stay connected, catch the edge of it.
1:40:32 > 1:40:41This looks pretty good, can he get the white one as well full -- the
1:40:41 > 1:40:46width one as well? Unfortunate for Team GB. It would make things a
1:40:46 > 1:40:53little
1:40:53 > 1:40:58little more complex.A little more tense. What are the chances of that?
1:40:58 > 1:41:02You get the speed and the exact angle that spills it towards the
1:41:02 > 1:41:07center line, just where you don't want it! The difficulty of Kyle
1:41:07 > 1:41:16Smith's final stone has just gone up.These guys want to have the red
1:41:16 > 1:41:23stones stopping where the brush head is. He could take the opportunity,
1:41:23 > 1:41:27if he wanted to try and hit the double but that would be quite... Or
1:41:27 > 1:41:35does he do the draw? When was the last time that Kyle threw a draw?
1:41:35 > 1:41:42Italy with a minute and a half left, to get the stone away. Amos Mosaner
1:41:42 > 1:41:47already there.
1:41:50 > 1:41:53already there. Should be a final stone of the game position might
1:41:53 > 1:42:01Amos Mosaner.Where it finishes up, it could make life very difficult
1:42:01 > 1:42:10for Kyle Smith. Too short, and he should have an easier draw. You just
1:42:10 > 1:42:18want to be biting on the four foot. Playing a nice shot, and right in
1:42:18 > 1:42:22line. Leaving Kyle with the draw. We want to touch four feat for the game
1:42:22 > 1:42:28here.I think the Italian stone could have done with a little bit
1:42:28 > 1:42:34closer to the center line. He had to be biting the four foot. Kyle Smith
1:42:34 > 1:42:42has the whole of the four foot to come to.As a skip yourself, you
1:42:42 > 1:42:47always say give me four foot for the game!Yes, and fingers crossed he
1:42:47 > 1:42:53can lay this and the sweepers will take it in for us. It has been a
1:42:53 > 1:42:58tight game and it has gone one way, then the other. But we do have the
1:42:58 > 1:43:02opportunity to secure a win and keep our chances alive in this Olympic
1:43:02 > 1:43:09championship here.60% on draw for Kyle Smith. Adrenaline will be
1:43:09 > 1:43:14pumping.
1:43:16 > 1:43:18pumping. Everybody is very positive with their communication. The
1:43:18 > 1:43:23sweepers seem happy with it. Just needs to be in the red bed for the
1:43:23 > 1:43:29game.It looks well. These guys are controlling it well. A great shot to
1:43:29 > 1:43:37finish with! And unbelievable draw from Kyle Smith, and at the highest
1:43:37 > 1:43:41levels of pressure. Keeping Team GB alive at the Olympic Games, and
1:43:41 > 1:43:45still very much in the hunt for the semifinals. Great resilience from
1:43:45 > 1:43:53Kyle Smith after a difficult game. Team GB, somehow, they get it over
1:43:53 > 1:43:59the winning line. Taking this one down in session eight. The final
1:43:59 > 1:44:10score is Great Britain seven, Italy with six.
1:44:19 > 1:44:23STUDIO: Jackie, you said it in commentary, the most important stone
1:44:23 > 1:44:29of Kyle Smith's life and he delivered, what a relief!Yes, these
1:44:29 > 1:44:34guys played a good end there. Cammy Smith set them up beautifully by
1:44:34 > 1:44:40playing two beautiful take shots and it opened up the four foot. You were
1:44:40 > 1:44:44right, leave me with four foot. The sweepers can take it down. A
1:44:44 > 1:44:49wonderfully played shot. What a difficult game. It swung both ways.
1:44:49 > 1:44:54A great win for Scotland. Great Britain keep their hopes alive.I'm
1:44:54 > 1:45:01sure the interview will be well worth hearing. That is the result.
1:45:01 > 1:45:03Great Britain, after three hours, just short of three hours of
1:45:03 > 1:45:10curling, coming down to the extra end but they have beaten Italy 7-6.
1:45:10 > 1:45:13Denmark, Norway and the USA left for them but they will have had to have
1:45:13 > 1:45:15won all of those three games if
1:45:15 > 1:45:15them but they will have had to have won all of those three games if they
1:45:15 > 1:45:20had not managed to beat Italy. There is a little bit of leeway. Chemmy
1:45:20 > 1:45:26Alcott Nicki Minaj cello and myself have been joined by his 11. You will
1:45:26 > 1:45:33be taking on, what's coming up?We will reflect on James Woods, in the
1:45:33 > 1:45:37freestyle slopestyle, if you have not seen it it is definitely worth a
1:45:37 > 1:45:43watch! We have the men's aerials finals. It is all kicking off. The
1:45:43 > 1:45:50president of Belarus has now written to the IOC president because the
1:45:50 > 1:45:55Belarussians have a keen heritage in this. Going for three golds in a row
1:45:55 > 1:45:59and their defending champion did not make the final. He is not happy so
1:45:59 > 1:46:03it is all kicking off! He wants to make himself very well understood,
1:46:03 > 1:46:08key is not happy!
1:46:09 > 1:46:13There is one Belarussian in the final, no pressure on him!Stay
1:46:13 > 1:46:17tuned for that. All of the political news as well as the sporting news
1:46:17 > 1:46:20with Hazel Irvine. We catch up now on the second one of the two-man
1:46:20 > 1:46:28bob. Going into this, Great Britain were in seventh place.
1:46:30 > 1:46:32were in seventh place. Brad Hall and Joel Fearon are at their first
1:46:32 > 1:46:40Olympics.
1:46:40 > 1:46:42Let's see how those leading contenders could fare in the second
1:46:42 > 1:46:48run with our commentators. Next ago and three tenths of the
1:46:48 > 1:46:57lead at the moment is Benjamin Meyer, who will marry Elisabeth
1:46:57 > 1:47:03Vathje shortly. He is at his second Olympic Games, nights in the World
1:47:03 > 1:47:15Championships two years ago. He did 49.41 earlier and a 4.91 start.That
1:47:15 > 1:47:19is a great start. They are a good pair of athletes. The thing with
1:47:19 > 1:47:23Benny is, he is either really good or sometimes he is inconsistent, but
1:47:23 > 1:47:28he seems to be getting on with this track and it suits his style. It
1:47:28 > 1:47:31suits the Austrian equipment. We have seen Marcus's team-mate have a
1:47:31 > 1:47:39good run as well. That is not the optimum online, but he should get
1:47:39 > 1:47:46away with it and not lose too much speed. Comes into the big curve. He
1:47:46 > 1:47:54should be able to hold on.He started off nine
1:47:54 > 1:47:57started off nine hundredths ahead and that has now dropped to just
1:47:57 > 1:48:05100th. But he has just got his nose in front with his brakeman. Maier
1:48:05 > 1:48:14leading the way as we had towards the top eight have to run one. This
1:48:14 > 1:48:18is going to be a tight race. Everybody has now started to
1:48:18 > 1:48:24condense and close up on the second run. As we come into runs three and
1:48:24 > 1:48:30four tomorrow, I think we will have a good race for the medals. The top
1:48:30 > 1:48:35ten will be changing around. If you look at how much ice is getting spat
1:48:35 > 1:48:38off with every sled that comes down, it is almost down to the concrete
1:48:38 > 1:48:47now.In terms of the contest, I would like to see the next four or
1:48:47 > 1:48:52five to take a significant jump forward, maybe find 15 hundredths,
1:48:52 > 1:48:57possibly two tenths. That would make things really interesting, take them
1:48:57 > 1:49:04towards a good halfway position.It certainly would. That is a better
1:49:04 > 1:49:14start than the first run. The world-class
1:49:14 > 1:49:17world-class brakeman that is Lascelles Brown for Canada, they
1:49:17 > 1:49:21should have been quicker than that, but Chris has been sliding well. A
1:49:21 > 1:49:30bit of overdrive on turn three.
1:49:30 > 1:49:37bit of overdrive on turn three. They are up against it.They are. They
1:49:37 > 1:49:42are just behind. They might be able to pull it back with more speed.
1:49:42 > 1:49:48They started almost eight hundredths behind, but they are starting to
1:49:48 > 1:49:54close in. But is there enough track left to close in on the Austrians?I
1:49:54 > 1:49:58think it is going to end in disappointment. They have gone two
1:49:58 > 1:50:04tenths slower. That is a backward step for the Canadians, whose
1:50:04 > 1:50:09support remained cheery, but they will not be happy with that. That
1:50:09 > 1:50:22was the mistake he made in three, just over drove it. You do should
1:50:22 > 1:50:27expect this pad to start quicker. You see Lascelles Brown struggling
1:50:27 > 1:50:33to get in.
1:50:33 > 1:50:36to get in. And all of a sudden, he tweaks it and what a great line that
1:50:36 > 1:50:43is. So it shows that it can be done with these big sleds. But you almost
1:50:43 > 1:50:51have to be so accurate.
1:50:51 > 1:50:58have to be so accurate.Come on, Brad. A straightforward, but earnest
1:50:58 > 1:51:02display of encouragement from the sidelines. Brad Hall, going for
1:51:02 > 1:51:07Great Britain, ranked number seven. Yes, seven after run number one.
1:51:07 > 1:51:13Joel Fearon with him. They had a super first run. What was the making
1:51:13 > 1:51:18of that first one so good? It was just clean. It was one of the best
1:51:18 > 1:51:24runs we have seen so far. It would be lovely to see them go under five
1:51:24 > 1:51:29seconds for the start.
1:51:33 > 1:51:37seconds for the start. That is good. Brad just needs to keep calm. He has
1:51:37 > 1:51:46been having issues, but he is clean. He has a good feel. He is really
1:51:46 > 1:51:50talented in the front seat. He has only been driving four years, but he
1:51:50 > 1:51:56had to take nine months out because he almost tore the back of his hand
1:51:56 > 1:52:01wide open and got rid of all the tendons. This was what he did on the
1:52:01 > 1:52:05first run, but he had the freshest eyes. Hopefully, he can pull back
1:52:05 > 1:52:08towards the Austrians and we will see the British sled stay where it
1:52:08 > 1:52:14is.
1:52:15 > 1:52:21is.And it turns green, just. Brad Hall nipped ahead of Ben
1:52:22 > 1:52:25Hall nipped ahead of Ben Maier. Celebrations in the British camp.
1:52:25 > 1:52:29They are definitely going to and they won not worse than seventh
1:52:29 > 1:52:36place.You can see how happy they are. Me and Brad were walking down
1:52:36 > 1:52:40the track and I was speaking to him. He was explaining in great detail.
1:52:40 > 1:52:53It shows that he has the knowledge of the track. He ran 9.96. Those
1:52:53 > 1:52:56runners along the bottom of the sled are the runners I will be using when
1:52:56 > 1:53:00racing for the Royal Navy team in a couple of weeks' time. So I will
1:53:00 > 1:53:05make sure I take them to Austria with me in a couple of weeks.
1:53:05 > 1:53:12Passport and your runners!Yeah! Having secured seventh place, it
1:53:12 > 1:53:17would be unlikely that Brad will improve upon it because these are
1:53:17 > 1:53:26some seriously good athletes coming up now and we are into the top six.
1:53:26 > 1:53:30Lochner is next. His last three World Championships have yielded a
1:53:30 > 1:53:33muddle on every occasion. He is number six in the world in the
1:53:33 > 1:53:41two-man event. You can see from the way he loaded in, it looked like the
1:53:41 > 1:53:47sled shunted forward and they carry great velocity.
1:53:48 > 1:53:58great velocity. He was clean. If you watch the front runners, you can see
1:53:58 > 1:54:01them turning, but you have to be really clued into what they are
1:54:01 > 1:54:08doing. This is the run that Johannes Lochner needs to put pressure on the
1:54:08 > 1:54:20medals. I had him down as one of the medal winners here.
1:54:24 > 1:54:39He goes straight into the lead. Brad was a tenths slower as well.
1:54:39 > 1:54:41was a tenths slower as well. These sleds are closer to the start, so it
1:54:41 > 1:54:47might be that the track is just losing a bit of speed. We have now
1:54:47 > 1:54:51had almost 15 sleds down there and it is screwing the track up a bit
1:54:51 > 1:54:59and crunching the top up. Not a massive jump, but you can see he's
1:54:59 > 1:55:04still has four runners off the ground. That is 390 kilos that are
1:55:04 > 1:55:10airborne. You can see how much force there is in the track. Great to see
1:55:10 > 1:55:16Brad Hall congratulating the guys in front of him. It is one big sliding
1:55:16 > 1:55:22community. We are all one big family.German roars now as we
1:55:22 > 1:55:28welcome one of the big names in
1:55:28 > 1:55:31welcome one of the big names in the sport, Francesco Friedrich. He has
1:55:31 > 1:55:35won the last 42-man competition is at the World Championships.These
1:55:35 > 1:55:43are one of the best starting teams in the world. He hasn't got that
1:55:43 > 1:55:48right. That is going to cost him a medal. That mistake in corner two,
1:55:48 > 1:55:54he hasn't worked it out yet. He is a four-time world champion. In fact,
1:55:54 > 1:55:59these men are five-time champions. For them to start on the journey to
1:55:59 > 1:56:03be true German legends, they need to start winning medals at Olympic
1:56:03 > 1:56:17level.They are falling behind Lochner. Can Friedrich pull it back?
1:56:17 > 1:56:26No. The pressure is on now, John. One of the big favourites will find
1:56:26 > 1:56:32himself going into medal day in deficit. And he will find himself in
1:56:32 > 1:56:37more deficit if you can't sort that out. You can see him shaking his
1:56:37 > 1:56:43head. He knows. He just started driving a bit too soon and too much
1:56:43 > 1:56:49in corner two. But this is what they do best. They start well, they carry
1:56:49 > 1:56:53lots of velocity, and then you have the mistake. Kicks the back of the
1:56:53 > 1:57:06sled out. That is where he lost that tenth. Maybe he has not had enough
1:57:06 > 1:57:11time in the sled to get used to the feeling of it. It sled feels
1:57:11 > 1:57:21slightly different. The Latvian support are in good voice.
1:57:29 > 1:57:41A couple of things to watch out for with Oskars Kibermanis.
1:57:41 > 1:57:48In round one, his eventual time was 49.21. The last two or three have
1:57:48 > 1:57:53gone a bit slower on the second run. The first point to watch for is that
1:57:53 > 1:58:00they are usually cracking starters. Can they get inside 4.91?I don't
1:58:00 > 1:58:11like the way he loads. It was like all of his pressure went backwards.
1:58:11 > 1:58:15Little mistake at the top of the track. It is going to cost them
1:58:15 > 1:58:22time. Between Lochner and Friedrich, they are only separated by three
1:58:22 > 1:58:27hundredths of a second. Any mistakes will cost them. Lochner could drop
1:58:27 > 1:58:32behind Friedrich.
1:58:40 > 1:58:44By his high standards, a pretty rough run. He has dropped two tenths
1:58:44 > 1:58:51off. Goes into third place, just a whisker ahead of Brad Hall. Brad
1:58:51 > 1:59:00Hall is in force at the moment. That is a disappointment for Britain. It
1:59:00 > 1:59:08is. Maybe Lochner didn't have such a good first run and he has found
1:59:08 > 1:59:15himself relaxed. Maybe this is Oskars Kibermanis having his bad run
1:59:15 > 1:59:20and not being quite where he needs to be. You see how much he is
1:59:20 > 1:59:26working on the steering to get round. You can see how much height
1:59:26 > 1:59:35he has got. You are talking about inches, and that's all it is,
1:59:35 > 1:59:39especially when you are building up to 60 or 70 miles an hour. It is
1:59:39 > 1:59:46difficult to be that accurate, but that is the difference. They will be
1:59:46 > 1:59:50happy with that because they are now pushing towards the medals as their
1:59:50 > 1:59:58German team-mates come down.We like this pair.
1:59:58 > 2:00:06this pair. Nico Walther is such a talented German pilot.
2:00:06 > 2:00:07make himself very well understood, key is not happy!
2:00:07 > 2:00:13We will see how he goes now. They looked fairly good, shaving a 100th
2:00:13 > 2:00:19of a second off that. They start this run, four and trucks off the
2:00:19 > 2:00:26leader. Let's see if they can improve?I think they will, because
2:00:26 > 2:00:31Johannes Lochner started quicker, it may drop into the red. I think that
2:00:31 > 2:00:41he will pull away, unless he messes up in this corner Downey Street. --
2:00:41 > 2:00:47down the street. This is where he makes his magic. This is him
2:00:47 > 2:00:50charging towards the gold medal position and really putting in a
2:00:50 > 2:00:55run. He is not worried about his team-mate. He has crashed on the
2:00:55 > 2:01:01corner but that will not affect his time. Hopefully they will not be
2:01:01 > 2:01:05injured. He has tried to run the corner a little too long and hasn't
2:01:05 > 2:01:09steered it often enough. This can happen, because the finish line is
2:01:09 > 2:01:13right on the edge of the corner, he will still have all of his velocity
2:01:13 > 2:01:18and momentum going forward. Now they will be hoping they have not damaged
2:01:18 > 2:01:23the sled or hurt themselves going up the breaking straight. We are not
2:01:23 > 2:01:29getting pictures. Let's hope when we do it is good news. What a time.
2:01:29 > 2:01:3449.20 seven. Relative to what the others have done, look at that! Not
2:01:34 > 2:01:41a bruise on him.No crashes are nice but when you are going down the
2:01:41 > 2:01:49breaking straight, there are nice crashes and not so nice ones. They
2:01:49 > 2:01:55will not be too fast, they know they are still in front. He gives
2:01:55 > 2:02:01something to talk about -- too fussed. He is the best pilot.
2:02:01 > 2:02:05Running a little long, that is why the sled shifted towards the
2:02:05 > 2:02:08right-hand side. He's hardly doing anything with the runners. Nice and
2:02:08 > 2:02:15straight. He is perfect, his head is down as he tries to get the best
2:02:15 > 2:02:18aerodynamic profile as possible. That meant because he couldn't see
2:02:18 > 2:02:23the edge of the corner he didn't quite get his steering point right.
2:02:23 > 2:02:27They are on their heads coming down the breaking straight. Their
2:02:27 > 2:02:31team-mates need to stop the sled to make sure that they do not roll
2:02:31 > 2:02:41back.Nico going, what is all of the fuss about? Now, second place after
2:02:41 > 2:02:49run number one, Justin Kripps, after what Nico Walther has done, he can
2:02:49 > 2:02:55still hold the lead. Starting with a fair advantage over Walther.I
2:02:55 > 2:02:59started this pair to start a lot quicker. Maybe the profile does not
2:02:59 > 2:03:07suit them. Dropping away too much. Still in great shape. Is it at the
2:03:07 > 2:03:12point where Walther will pull them back in? They have dropped off, at
2:03:12 > 2:03:15this top level with these pilots, they do not make big mistakes but
2:03:15 > 2:03:21hopefully he will get through. He will take that, coming in late. This
2:03:21 > 2:03:27will be right down to the wire. As they come in. I think Walther will
2:03:27 > 2:03:32take it by five or six hundredths at the bottom. He is losing some speed.
2:03:32 > 2:03:37Do we have a slight change to the order? Walther staying in front by a
2:03:37 > 2:03:44tenth of a second. Kripps lost a fair bit there late on. Walther
2:03:44 > 2:03:53embraces his team-mates. Kripps is in second place. Very tight though,
2:03:53 > 2:03:58that is how it will be at the end of Day one. In the two man competition,
2:03:58 > 2:04:08a recap after the next one to go. That was a really tidy run.You
2:04:08 > 2:04:11couldn't say that that is what cost him. Look at the difference in his
2:04:11 > 2:04:19runners. How does he compare to Walther in the German sled? He was
2:04:19 > 2:04:23on the perfect line. Trying to force the corner a little bit. It has
2:04:23 > 2:04:28worked as he gets through clean. But he overdrive is the sled at that
2:04:28 > 2:04:31point. You can see how all of these guys congratulate one another in
2:04:31 > 2:04:37what they are doing. We are fierce competitors on the track but we are
2:04:37 > 2:04:44also all friends. One big community. A sliding family.A big chance for
2:04:44 > 2:04:47Oskars Melbardis to put distance between himself and the others in
2:04:47 > 2:04:56the race for the gold medal. Run one, 40 9.0 eight. An impressive
2:04:56 > 2:05:04time, -- 40 9.0 eight. Awaiting confirmation of a gold in the four
2:05:04 > 2:05:08man. Sochi and a bronze in this two man event. It's a big opportunity
2:05:08 > 2:05:16for him to open up some daylight over the rest of them. The Latvian
2:05:16 > 2:05:21equipment is good, we saw it on the first run. A little off, but Oskars
2:05:21 > 2:05:26is a really good pilot. That will cost him. That will cost him at the
2:05:26 > 2:05:30bottom. You saw how quickly the sled turned around the corner. Handbrake
2:05:30 > 2:05:36turn, almost. He is going to drop back quite a way. Perhaps even
2:05:36 > 2:05:42dropping behind into third or fourth place he. Depending on whether he
2:05:42 > 2:05:48can nail it. That's the best line so far. Second place is only one tenth
2:05:48 > 2:05:53behind. He will drop behind that. It could be a big mistake... One at the
2:05:53 > 2:06:01top, that has cost him. Certainly a position from day one. Walther made
2:06:01 > 2:06:05a mistake at the end and the Latvian has done one at the start. He is
2:06:05 > 2:06:10only in fourth place, and having led he is now two tenths of a second
2:06:10 > 2:06:17behind. A fascinating watch, this has been the second run with the top
2:06:17 > 2:06:2320 now complete. We will finish run two with those who struggled after
2:06:23 > 2:06:32run number one. Walther in front by a tenth. They fluffed a good
2:06:32 > 2:06:36opportunity there. It all went wrong earlier, as you say? It all went
2:06:36 > 2:06:41wrong in the exit of the second corner. We have gone down to Ben
2:06:41 > 2:06:49nine. -- bend number nine. You can see what a knock-on effect it had at
2:06:49 > 2:06:53the bottom. When we talk about these runs, we talk about being consistent
2:06:53 > 2:07:00over four runs. The reason why Walther is at the top on day one is
2:07:00 > 2:07:06because he's had two of the most consistent runs.STUDIO: Despite the
2:07:06 > 2:07:15crash, they lead the way, Germany, after the halfway stage.
2:07:15 > 2:07:17after the halfway stage. Germany two in third place. We have three German
2:07:17 > 2:07:26crews in the top five, all within about three tenths of a second.
2:07:26 > 2:07:32about three tenths of a second. Brad Hall and Joel Fearon there. Let's
2:07:32 > 2:07:39hear their opening reflections. Two runs down, how were those lines?
2:07:39 > 2:07:45I'm really happy with them. Two solid and good heats. How difficult
2:07:45 > 2:07:50has it been to learn the track, is it an ongoing process?Yes, we are
2:07:50 > 2:07:55still learning at the moment. I think I pretty much nailed it today.
2:07:55 > 2:07:59I really happy with the runs. We missed out coming here at the
2:07:59 > 2:08:03beginning of the season. I need more practice on the North American
2:08:03 > 2:08:07tracks. We are a little behind in the heats on this track. But we've
2:08:07 > 2:08:10done really well in this week of training. It shows in the
2:08:10 > 2:08:15competition today.Andy Jolly, two fantastic pushes from you. It must
2:08:15 > 2:08:22be nice to be in the Team GB kit again? -- and Joel.I haven't had
2:08:22 > 2:08:27any of the training runs.Have you been saving yourself?Yes! I am so
2:08:27 > 2:08:33proud of bright, he has come a long way in a short time. He is here and
2:08:33 > 2:08:37here is competitive, he is smiling and enjoying himself. More than
2:08:37 > 2:08:41anything, and always proud to wear the flag. And what was your
2:08:41 > 2:08:49expectation is for the two man event.I wanted Brad to smile and so
2:08:49 > 2:08:53far he still is! I'm over the moon for him, honestly. And halfway,
2:08:53 > 2:08:58solidly inside the top ten. At the moment, knocking on seven? That's
2:08:58 > 2:09:04quite good!Definitely. We always knew that I will equipment wasn't
2:09:04 > 2:09:09that good in the two man. We are looking to use it as experience.
2:09:09 > 2:09:15Going into the four man, we meddled earlier in the season. Use as much
2:09:15 > 2:09:19experience as possible. It's my first Olympic Games, get used to the
2:09:19 > 2:09:24atmosphere.They will be in travel next week!If we can get hold of the
2:09:24 > 2:09:27four man, we should be doing pretty well. Great to see you going quickly
2:09:27 > 2:09:30and smiling.
2:09:30 > 2:09:34well. Great to see you going quickly and smiling. STUDIO: It is on both
2:09:34 > 2:09:39counts. Joel Fearon was the only survivor from Joe Jackson's bronze
2:09:39 > 2:09:43medal winning side from Sochi. Do you think that he will reflect
2:09:43 > 2:09:49positively on the opening day of work?A fantastic day, Brad Haddin
2:09:49 > 2:09:53amazing day. Not amazing results this season but he is still
2:09:53 > 2:09:57developing. The four man is the stronger event for him. He will be
2:09:57 > 2:10:02so pleased. And Joel, bringing in his experience and knowledge. He has
2:10:02 > 2:10:07been a track and field athlete for years. He has gone under ten
2:10:07 > 2:10:10seconds, he has all of that positivity and Brad is riding the
2:10:10 > 2:10:16wave.Three German crews in the top five. This is different territory to
2:10:16 > 2:10:22four years ago. They had a nightmare in the bobsleigh events generally?
2:10:22 > 2:10:26We see it in the football, Germany went to Sochi and had a shocker.
2:10:26 > 2:10:30They tore their programme apart and restarted, and we can see the
2:10:30 > 2:10:34results here. They have been building and building and Germany in
2:10:34 > 2:10:38the next few years will dominate again. They have the world champion
2:10:38 > 2:10:45and European champion. In the men's and women's, considering where they
2:10:45 > 2:10:48were four years ago, I think they will see a lot of medals coming from
2:10:48 > 2:10:52this Olympics and over the next four years it will be a German show
2:10:52 > 2:10:58again.Nicola, great to have you with us. Yesterday we watched the
2:10:58 > 2:11:0119-year-old freestyle skier Izzy Atkin taking the first British medal
2:11:01 > 2:11:08on skis on snow. I wonder whether it would be like buses? Having waited
2:11:08 > 2:11:13for so long, and with another one coming along the next day, that is
2:11:13 > 2:11:17what we were hoping we would get from James Woods today. He was in
2:11:17 > 2:11:21the main's slopestyle today and he was brought up on the bristles of
2:11:21 > 2:11:27the Sheffield ski village. From there, he is very much a medal
2:11:27 > 2:11:33contender. Let's go over to our commentators.
2:11:33 > 2:11:34contender. Let's go over to our commentators.
2:11:34 > 2:11:41COMMENTATOR: The Canadian...Evan has been so solid through this
2:11:41 > 2:11:47course. He should have a technical top section. He is really strong on
2:11:47 > 2:11:58these rails...Getting it done there.Nowhere near the speed that
2:11:58 > 2:12:02we have seen from anyone else but the level of difficulty and
2:12:02 > 2:12:07technicality was off the chart. Coming out of the corner, a really
2:12:07 > 2:12:15nice little lie.Possibly the strongest we have seen on the rails.
2:12:15 > 2:12:26A big 1260... And now into the bottom jump...
2:12:26 > 2:12:31bottom jump... Singh, two, four .5... 16, 20! Ooh! That is how you
2:12:31 > 2:12:37start things off! This boy has landed an incredible run! So much
2:12:37 > 2:12:45composure.Yes, very clean, apart from the one rail. He was pinpoint.
2:12:45 > 2:12:49This will be breathtaking. With perfect conditions he at Phoenix
2:12:49 > 2:12:55Park, it means we are seeing consistency. That is what we saw in
2:12:55 > 2:12:59qualifying. Everybody stomping their runs. The judges leaving themselves
2:12:59 > 2:13:09with plenty of room there.
2:13:09 > 2:13:11with plenty of room there.So, Woodsy... Great Britain's finest
2:13:11 > 2:13:19free skier. Qualifying comfortably. He has been in great form, winning
2:13:19 > 2:13:23the first World Cup of the season in New Zealand committee took a silver
2:13:23 > 2:13:28two weeks ago at the X Games. Can he do what he did in the qualifiers and
2:13:28 > 2:13:36lay down a clean first run.I love this line... Ooh... Tapping the
2:13:36 > 2:13:41goalpost and showing the control to the judges. He will be absolutely
2:13:41 > 2:13:45frothing. Here he will be feeling like a kid that has come down at
2:13:45 > 2:13:51Christmas and seen a bounty of presents under the tree. Into the
2:13:51 > 2:13:56first of these jumps... And right off the top corner.Sending it deep.
2:13:56 > 2:14:05He has looked so good on the first jump. Huge 1260... Now are we going
2:14:05 > 2:14:14to see his new trick? Yes, it is! Ooh! Woodsy! It was silent in here,
2:14:14 > 2:14:21hearts were bouncing off the walls. He looked so deep and relaxed on
2:14:21 > 2:14:25every landing! He knows, doesn't he? He knows it was there on his
2:14:25 > 2:14:33fingertips.An unbelievable run. Look at the grab on that. He sent it
2:14:33 > 2:14:45so deep. Just catching on the edge. Now, the Norwegian... Oystein
2:14:45 > 2:14:51Braaten is a big name on these jumps.
2:14:52 > 2:15:01jumps.Got some big tricks. Hold tight...Using the detail up there.
2:15:01 > 2:15:11To pique the judges affection. Switching up. 450 out...
2:15:12 > 2:15:22Really nice. Chatting in -- chucking something in off the saddle there.
2:15:22 > 2:15:35Yeah. Double 1260. Winding up hard. Switch double 14. Back 14s. Left and
2:15:35 > 2:15:40right. So much going on! Is absolutely stomping the landing.
2:15:40 > 2:15:48Braaten with the first really powerful run here in men's ski slope
2:15:48 > 2:16:00finals.There is detailed grab to the -- the tail grab and then
2:16:00 > 2:16:07shifting hands. The judges have gone early. That seems very high, very
2:16:07 > 2:16:12soon.
2:16:14 > 2:16:17soon. Ragettli, the man who knows how to milk points out of the
2:16:17 > 2:16:26judges. How has the decoded the course?
2:16:26 > 2:16:36course?Cheeky 270, 270 on and off. He has such a big frame, he can't
2:16:36 > 2:16:42half move it around.Switching up through the double kink.Yeah.
2:16:42 > 2:16:49Switching up.For me, that's when it gets harder to judge the rails
2:16:49 > 2:16:56because he slowed it down. Compared to the speed we saw from Kenworthy.
2:16:56 > 2:17:01He just milk that 1260 around, I don't know how he got it round.
2:17:01 > 2:17:10Looking
2:17:10 > 2:17:15Looking really good, Ragettli. How did he get that last kick around? It
2:17:15 > 2:17:24looked like he went around very slowly. 85.8, sliding in to third
2:17:24 > 2:17:38place behind McEachran. Such an eclectic run, some parts were fast
2:17:38 > 2:17:43flowing and smooth. It was technical.My goodness!He has
2:17:43 > 2:17:50literally fallen over as he set up. Well, what a mistake that was.
2:17:50 > 2:17:56Wouldn't have been out of place at the Tamworth Snow Dome.Very tight
2:17:56 > 2:18:02at the top and then it drops off after fourth place. James Woods of
2:18:02 > 2:18:09Great Britain is currently in eighth place, just behind Kenworthy. Came
2:18:09 > 2:18:18so close on his first run. He had everything in place.
2:18:18 > 2:18:22everything in place. His coat saying he so has it.Take a breath,
2:18:22 > 2:18:32everyone.-- his coach. Look at the smile.Well, really liked by the
2:18:32 > 2:18:41free skiing community. 70 on, 270 off.The double hit this time, you
2:18:41 > 2:18:48could hear both of them.Locking the down bar nicely. Spinning onto the
2:18:48 > 2:18:59rails in different directions, which the judges will like.360
2:18:59 > 2:19:01the judges will like.360 mute grab. Using the direction of the twisted
2:19:01 > 2:19:09sister kicker but going off the corner.A better grab that time. The
2:19:09 > 2:19:20bottom jump, what has he got for us? The octo's there!
2:19:21 > 2:19:25The octo's there!Yes, Woodsy, that was huge. Throwing down a run that
2:19:25 > 2:19:30showcases him at his very best. That was majestic. Take a deep breath and
2:19:30 > 2:19:37breathe it in. One of the best slopestyle skiers in the world lays
2:19:37 > 2:19:48down a huge run when it matters. 91. So, second place for Woodsy at the
2:19:48 > 2:19:57moment, four points behind Braaten. But 1.6
2:19:57 > 2:20:00But 1.6 ahead of McEachran. Back at the top with Braaten. Now we should
2:20:00 > 2:20:07see some relaxed skiing. A man who knows he's in gold medal position,
2:20:07 > 2:20:19he can start to turn it on and turn the screw.Wow. Very clean. 270 up
2:20:19 > 2:20:29the box. 450 out, going through the kink rail.We could explain it but
2:20:29 > 2:20:34the run would be over. Oh, he missed it!He pulled the ripcord on that
2:20:34 > 2:20:42one.The Norwegian is going to let it go for run three. But he has set
2:20:42 > 2:20:49such a high bar.
2:20:49 > 2:20:56such a high bar. Currently in fifth place, ABM. He knew that his rails
2:20:56 > 2:21:01were going to be strong but backing it up with very powerful kickers on
2:21:01 > 2:21:06his first run and now he is poised to strike.Yes, he's like a wild
2:21:06 > 2:21:12Cobra, ready to attack this at any given moment. You say that, he's
2:21:12 > 2:21:17attacking it right now!Is there such a thing as a same Cobra?Oh,
2:21:17 > 2:21:25yeah! -- H
2:21:26 > 2:21:29yeah! -- H Hamer -- tame cobra. Now into the second jump. Going very
2:21:29 > 2:21:32deep on that.
2:21:35 > 2:21:42Switch 16, treble at the end. Very big and the Canadians know it. And
2:21:42 > 2:21:49ABM knows it. A shake of the head as if to say, wow, I did it.Can't
2:21:49 > 2:21:58believe it.Gold is 95, we think that may be beyond him, silver is 91
2:21:58 > 2:22:03and bronze...
2:22:03 > 2:22:05and bronze... 92.4, ABM, Beaulieu-Marchand of Canada moving
2:22:05 > 2:22:12into the silver medal position. First-place qualifier, the only
2:22:12 > 2:22:19sweet to have made it
2:22:19 > 2:22:21sweet to have made it through, Oscar Wester.Better start.Much better
2:22:21 > 2:22:29start.Lovely, the switch, adding a little flourish there.A bit early
2:22:29 > 2:22:38on the rail.Flirting with the judges.
2:22:40 > 2:22:47Wester with the perfect response so far to a frustrating first run.
2:22:47 > 2:22:52Double 14 and then we've got the double lack spin from the side
2:22:52 > 2:22:56take-off.And the judges absolutely love the use of those side
2:22:56 > 2:23:04take-offs.
2:23:04 > 2:23:06take-offs.Switch double misty 12, taking off backwards and landing
2:23:06 > 2:23:12forwards. We know that the judges loved the side take-offs but I think
2:23:12 > 2:23:25that he is rails weren't up to speed.Wow.Look at that, 62.So,
2:23:25 > 2:23:32Oscar Wester with it all to do. So, second runs are done, Braaten is in
2:23:32 > 2:23:43gold medal position. ABM in silver and James Woods in bronze. James
2:23:43 > 2:23:48Woods, Britain's finest, looking to repeat Izzy Atkin 's' accomplishment
2:23:48 > 2:23:54yesterday and take a medal here yesterday in the ski slopestyle.
2:23:54 > 2:24:02Just pulling out his lace, having a little joke up there. Woodsy is in
2:24:02 > 2:24:09bronze medal position with 91. So many options, will heed tidy up the
2:24:09 > 2:24:16one we've already seen or will he try something different?Switch now,
2:24:16 > 2:24:22onto the down bar. 450 out. Up and over the goalpost.Going bigger.I
2:24:22 > 2:24:29really like that line. He's missed the 450 out. So a lot of work to do.
2:24:29 > 2:24:35He needs to do something special. He just thought his way out of that as
2:24:35 > 2:24:42well. He's going to use the transition.
2:24:42 > 2:24:49transition. So, so smooth there. Going straight over the front. To
2:24:49 > 2:24:56the 1216, the Earth came to meet him then.Oh, my goodness. It was
2:24:56 > 2:25:04perfect. But he's missed that one rail. Arguably the rail teasmade
2:25:04 > 2:25:10look so stylish and clean until this point. -- he's made look so stylish.
2:25:10 > 2:25:20Onto the down bar.450 out. One and a quarter spins all stop that was
2:25:20 > 2:25:24the mistake, landing too late on it and wasn't able to get the pop off
2:25:24 > 2:25:32it. 90 points. If the 450 had been there it would have been an
2:25:32 > 2:25:44improvement and he might have reeled in ABM, Alex Beaulieu-Marchand. The
2:25:44 > 2:25:46Canadian, Teal Harle, hasn't put down a run yet. Can he put it
2:25:46 > 2:25:51together and put together the run we saw in qualifiers to get on the
2:25:51 > 2:25:58podium?The form we saw in the World Cup at the start of the year.He
2:25:58 > 2:26:10missed his tag there. Nice through the rails.Nice 360. That's
2:26:10 > 2:26:20beautiful. The best he's done as well, so big, that rail.Oh, and he
2:26:20 > 2:26:24got plenty of purchase off the top. Looked like he was hitting its low
2:26:24 > 2:26:35but he wound up.Big 14, into 12. Switching to the bottom jump.Switch
2:26:35 > 2:26:4414. Very, very big.Switch ten, excuse me.It's a big run but is it
2:26:44 > 2:26:5490 points? It is all clean.Very, very nerve-racking. It's a good run.
2:26:54 > 2:26:57Did he push it far enough?
2:27:02 > 2:27:0790 points. Only good enough for fourth. So, James Woods hold onto
2:27:07 > 2:27:17the bronze medal position. One more skier. One down, five to go.
2:27:19 > 2:27:26skier. One down, five to go. Braaten is in gold medal position. But he
2:27:26 > 2:27:32better his performance in Sochi? -- will he better his performance.I
2:27:32 > 2:27:37don't know, the simple answer. Bronze medal in Sochi, so he needs
2:27:37 > 2:27:46to up his game a little bit here. Nice section through the top. They
2:27:46 > 2:27:54may switch 270 off and on the kink rail. He's coming off it from the
2:27:54 > 2:27:59side.Rotating on and off in opposite directions, a good show of
2:27:59 > 2:28:06control through the kic. Into the first of the kickers and goes
2:28:06 > 2:28:13deeper.1260 now.Beautifully controlled.Switch the right double
2:28:13 > 2:28:25misty. Double grab.He made it look easy, he did it early and saw the
2:28:25 > 2:28:31landing and a grimacing look, good enough for the podium?I think it
2:28:31 > 2:28:40will be close. It's too close to call.It's so close.
2:28:40 > 2:28:46call.It's so close. The scores have come in, 93.6, Goepper into Silver
2:28:46 > 2:28:53Medal position.
2:28:53 > 2:28:55Medal position. Beaulieu-Marchand into bronze and James Woods drops
2:28:55 > 2:29:04out of the top three. Here is the man currently leading, the
2:29:04 > 2:29:12Norwegian. Focused on his third and final run. Will he need to better
2:29:12 > 2:29:23that 95? And more pressingly, can he?I think he'll try.I think he
2:29:23 > 2:29:34corked that one.He worked hard to get that around.
2:29:34 > 2:29:40get that around.Ooh! It has gone. Almost punching his way into that,
2:29:40 > 2:29:46frustrated.
2:29:46 > 2:29:53frustrated.1260 on the first of the twisted sisters.Ooh.Absolutely
2:29:53 > 2:30:02huge there.The Norwegian
2:30:02 > 2:30:05huge there. The Norwegian coach,... His boots are going to have diamonds
2:30:05 > 2:30:08on them, such is the pressure on the ski to keep them on. They should
2:30:08 > 2:30:15have come off but they didn't.No.
2:30:17 > 2:30:22Beaulieu-Marchand the Canadian dropping in. Currently in bronze
2:30:22 > 2:30:29medal position, can he improve? Really good skier. It would be nice
2:30:29 > 2:30:37to see him do well here.
2:30:37 > 2:30:48to see him do well here. And the gap, 450. Just slipped on it.
2:30:48 > 2:30:51gap, 450. Just slipped on it. He's so consistent with that.Swinging
2:30:51 > 2:30:57himself over the front. There's that double underlined that you so like.
2:30:57 > 2:31:04He made it look good their -- double under nine. And a huge trouble to
2:31:04 > 2:31:09finish things off.The way he throws that, such centrifugal force on it,
2:31:09 > 2:31:19it's like he's a passenger. Doesn't really have the style of Woodsy's
2:31:19 > 2:31:29triple. Beaulieu-Marchand fans.He remains in third place with that
2:31:29 > 2:31:3792.4. Two men left to drop.
2:31:37 > 2:31:4192.4. Two men left to drop. Andri Ragettli, if anyone can, he can stop
2:31:41 > 2:31:47yellow really got to focus now and turn it on.
2:31:47 > 2:31:57You can see him just closing his eyes.Getting his iPod in order. Or
2:31:57 > 2:32:04are the generic MP3 device! Visualising the run, getting himself
2:32:04 > 2:32:11in the zone, blocking out everything else. All of the media, all of the
2:32:11 > 2:32:16preparation, all of the TV, all of the expectation. He talks himself
2:32:16 > 2:32:23through it. Now it's only about the skiing.
2:32:23 > 2:32:29skiing.Really clean through that first rail. Almost comes to a stop
2:32:29 > 2:32:36before he gets onto the kink rail. He looked like he was tap dancing,
2:32:36 > 2:32:40that was magic. A little bit of Michael Flatley through the kink
2:32:40 > 2:32:52rail.Nice flat spin there over the drop.
2:32:52 > 2:32:57drop.Gone deep on the first kicker. 1260, brings into the switch here.
2:32:57 > 2:33:00This is the fastest we've seen him come through these kickers. He wants
2:33:00 > 2:33:10to go big. He scrubs it. Had to open up. Did he take too much speed off
2:33:10 > 2:33:13with the butter? So disappointing for the Swiss. He knew what he
2:33:13 > 2:33:17wanted to do and he knew it would have put him on gold medal
2:33:17 > 2:33:24contention, but that level of risk, that level of desire unfortunately
2:33:24 > 2:33:38not being repaid. By consistency.
2:33:39 > 2:33:4465.4. Braaten is guaranteed at least a silver. Nick Goepper at least a
2:33:44 > 2:33:54bronze. Beaulieu-Marchand will watch very, very nervously in bronze medal
2:33:54 > 2:33:57position, as Oscar Wester, the lone Swede who made it through from
2:33:57 > 2:34:07qualifying ahead of some of the favourites. What's he got?He needs
2:34:07 > 2:34:20the run of his life here.Huge 450. Pretzel out... He's gone!That's it.
2:34:20 > 2:34:25And the celebrations can begin down at the bottom here. Though Norwegian
2:34:25 > 2:34:29with a fantastic first run that has stood the test of time in this final
2:34:29 > 2:34:40will take the gold medal.
2:34:40 > 2:34:40stood the test of time in this final will take the gold medal.
2:34:40 > 2:34:41I
2:34:41 > 2:34:44to your brother before the qualifiers start today, he told me
2:34:44 > 2:34:49you were going to win, was not always the case?I didn't think so.
2:34:49 > 2:34:53I thought there were so many amazing riders here today. I was happy to
2:34:53 > 2:34:58make it to the finals and then my goal was to go for my best run.
2:34:58 > 2:34:58Nothing to lose.
2:34:58 > 2:35:01goal was to go for my best run. Nothing to lose. I landed my best
2:35:01 > 2:35:07run I think in the first one. Really stoked, but I didn't expect to win
2:35:07 > 2:35:11here today. It's tough because your rails are your strongest point. But
2:35:11 > 2:35:22at the slip yes, on that last run. Oh, man! It was, totally. It was
2:35:22 > 2:35:26obviously that little bit out of control. It's a game of perfection,
2:35:26 > 2:35:31and it's not just that. You've got to go above and beyond technical
2:35:31 > 2:35:37difficulty. Whereas that was insane. I've come here, constructive this
2:35:37 > 2:35:43run to win. It was definitely go for broke. But it wasn't the perfect run
2:35:43 > 2:35:54for me, and that's what you need.
2:35:58 > 2:36:03Agony for Woodsy. He created that run to get on the podium. He knew if
2:36:03 > 2:36:07he had to top that was a possibility. He was in silver medal
2:36:07 > 2:36:11position after run one but that slight slip off the rail did for
2:36:11 > 2:36:15him.He's so good at rail riding which is why he's got the X Games
2:36:15 > 2:36:19medals behind him. He's got to wait another four years but he will do
2:36:19 > 2:36:27it.He's a fabulous skier. And the big air. Really confident going into
2:36:27 > 2:36:32the big air after the X Games a few months ago.Unfortunately
2:36:32 > 2:36:35snowboarding big air. Just as Great Britain has found its skeleton
2:36:35 > 2:36:39groove, there's a lot of countries who have specialities in different
2:36:39 > 2:36:43things. We've got the Dutch at the Oval, the Austrians in the scheme,
2:36:43 > 2:36:50the Norwegians in the cross-country and the Germans in the luge. The
2:36:50 > 2:36:55Belarussians thing is the freestyle aerials. They are good at it.
2:36:55 > 2:36:58They've won back-to-back women's gold. They were going for three in a
2:36:58 > 2:37:05row in the men's. As I said, there has been drama. The Belarussian
2:37:05 > 2:37:09president was complaining to the IOC president about the defending
2:37:09 > 2:37:13champion Anton Kershner's failure to qualify. He said they simply through
2:37:13 > 2:37:19the main competitor out of the competition, I had to send an alarm
2:37:19 > 2:37:26and told them everything I think. There is one Belarussian, no
2:37:26 > 2:37:34pressure from him, but it's just as well but
2:37:34 > 2:37:37well but Switzerland's has made it to the final. His parents have
2:37:37 > 2:37:44cycled from Switzerland. They are peddling 10,000 miles through 20
2:37:44 > 2:37:50countries to be in the crowd to see the men's aerials. I think they will
2:37:50 > 2:37:56be flying home.They deserve a medal.
2:37:56 > 2:37:57be flying home.They deserve a medal.
2:37:58 > 2:38:0312 men will go toe to toe over three rounds. 12 men in the first round,
2:38:03 > 2:38:11nine in the second. It will be cut to just six in the third round. Pay
2:38:11 > 2:38:15attention, the format is quite complicated. Each athlete declares
2:38:15 > 2:38:20which jump they will perform before they jump, and then five judges will
2:38:20 > 2:38:28score them on air, that is take-off, and trajectory, perform, the
2:38:28 > 2:38:34aesthetics in the air, and then landing. Two points air, five points
2:38:34 > 2:38:42for form and three points for landing. A total of 30 points is
2:38:42 > 2:38:48available for each jump. That school will then be multiplied by the
2:38:48 > 2:38:54degree of difficulty of the trip they are performing.
2:38:54 > 2:39:02they are performing. Gasser to drop in.Beautiful. Straight to his back.
2:39:02 > 2:39:11Such good form in the air. Fantastic separation. Slightly
2:39:11 > 2:39:14separation. Slightly overcooked that one. Triple somersault, full twist,
2:39:14 > 2:39:23double twist on the second.
2:39:23 > 2:39:29double twist on the second. 99.12, the Swiss.
2:39:30 > 2:39:35the Swiss. The man who steel blue eyes could cut through Fort Knox's
2:39:35 > 2:39:41deepest safe, Abramenko the Ukrainian. You can hear the
2:39:41 > 2:39:46helicopter blades in the.
2:39:53 > 2:39:57Beautiful. Really good. Absolutely beautiful. I think the ankles were
2:39:57 > 2:40:05tidier. He couldn't help get a bit excited.Really great separation
2:40:05 > 2:40:09between all of the jumps and the landing here. Beautiful. There we
2:40:09 > 2:40:15go, first place.
2:40:27 > 2:40:35A K eight the Jedi. Let's see if he can summon the force. -- AKA the
2:40:35 > 2:40:40Jedi. Can he ever!He does so in some style. Looks really good in the
2:40:40 > 2:40:50air.Showing why he's one the favourites.Very, very solid
2:40:50 > 2:41:02performance.OK, results after run one at the men's aerials finals.
2:41:08 > 2:41:20These are all safely qualified. They will be joined in positions 7-9...
2:41:29 > 2:41:35Jia Zongyang needs to land this perfectly.
2:41:39 > 2:41:45perfectly. He went huge and he stopped it.Beautiful. He put in the
2:41:45 > 2:41:50two twists in the middle slip. He cannot believe it. He is known as
2:41:50 > 2:41:55Tiger Woods because he is so precise. Probably the favourite
2:41:55 > 2:42:01coming into this Olympic Games. He scraped through to these second
2:42:01 > 2:42:09round of finals here. I'd tell you what, he's taken a very solid one
2:42:09 > 2:42:16would and he's knocked it straight down the middle.
2:42:17 > 2:42:21down the middle. That's Gore would have cleaned up in the first round.
2:42:21 > 2:42:31Jia Zongyang giving it up for the people's Republic.
2:42:31 > 2:42:33people's Republic.Stanislau Hladchenko. So many strong jumps
2:42:33 > 2:42:40yesterday. Sat in the middle of the pack today.His country's
2:42:40 > 2:42:44expectations on his young shoulders. Defending champion, it's up to him
2:42:44 > 2:42:54to bring the gold home.It was beautiful. The Belarussians can
2:42:54 > 2:42:58start to celebrate just a little bit. A bit of an arch in the back as
2:42:58 > 2:43:06he took off.So rigid in the air, he would have been likely tuning fork.
2:43:06 > 2:43:20-- like a tuning fork.The landing was very, very good.
2:43:24 > 2:43:32Jia Zongyang of Canada. The former gymnast in his first Olympics.
2:43:33 > 2:43:37gymnast in his first Olympics. -- Olivier Rochon of Canada. He's doing
2:43:37 > 2:43:43a lap of honour, someone should tell him it's only the semis.A very,
2:43:43 > 2:43:51very strong jump.These guys are like wound springs.You're good,
2:43:51 > 2:44:03you're good!CHEERING Look at that.
2:44:03 > 2:44:17Look at that. 128.05, a huge score for the Canadian.Proper blue steel.
2:44:17 > 2:44:25He's on a roll tonight. He really is.Absolutely magical. What's
2:44:25 > 2:44:28brilliant, his celebrations are mechanical as well, almost as
2:44:28 > 2:44:34mechanical as the jumps!Unzip his skin and make sure he's not a
2:44:34 > 2:44:39titanium
2:44:40 > 2:44:45titanium inside, T-1000. The take-off was just a robotic.Oh,
2:44:45 > 2:44:50forth. It's still good enough for qualification, going just above
2:44:50 > 2:45:02Burov. Guangpu, the Chinese, dropping in. Two twists in the first
2:45:02 > 2:45:12lip.27 years of age. This is his third Olympics.
2:45:12 > 2:45:15third Olympics. I think he's trying to pull the wool over the judges'
2:45:15 > 2:45:23eyes. He hasn't quite performed the first flip with two twists. And then
2:45:23 > 2:45:31the landing, really scrappy.
2:45:31 > 2:45:36the landing, really scrappy. Air was six, maxed out. But he's gone from
2:45:36 > 2:45:41first to last. All change on the second jumps in the men' aerials
2:45:41 > 2:45:47finals.Completely on its head, isn't it?The final six have been
2:45:47 > 2:46:03decided. The end of the road for Guangpu,
2:46:03 > 2:46:09Guangpu, Lillis and Zhongqing. Second at home in Moscow, two
2:46:09 > 2:46:14bronze' in 2016 but that's pretty much it for him.Going
2:46:14 > 2:46:22stratospheric, I think that's the biggest jump we've seen.Going a bit
2:46:22 > 2:46:28early into the double full and his legs are part. Watch, yes, he's
2:46:28 > 2:46:40twisted.Yes, he has, hasn't he? Good spot. Keep an I on the form.
2:46:40 > 2:46:4512.8, the landing and air are very high about the form has hurt him.
2:46:45 > 2:46:50When you consider they are being multiplied by two and a half, four
2:46:50 > 2:47:02and a half, sorry, he's dropped nearly 18 points.Wowsers.Next,
2:47:02 > 2:47:13Krotov. The 25-year-old. Can he better Burov? No, he can't.Livid.
2:47:13 > 2:47:16After some solid jumps in qualification and the first two
2:47:16 > 2:47:19rounds, the Russians appear to have let the final slip through their
2:47:19 > 2:47:25fingers. Looked really solid, the two Russians, Belo really
2:47:25 > 2:47:33comfortable. He has gone early as well.
2:47:33 > 2:47:42well.103.17. Two very low scores. Four men left and three medals. A
2:47:42 > 2:47:56man whose face, those piercing eyes, like looking into a hurricane.
2:47:58 > 2:48:06Oh, look at that! He knows he's given it a good try. Very, very
2:48:06 > 2:48:10strong jumps. Especially when put into context by the first two jumps
2:48:10 > 2:48:16by the Russians. Doesn't snatch anywhere near. Going a little bit
2:48:16 > 2:48:26early but not as early as we saw Burov. Yes!
2:48:29 > 2:48:37Burov. Yes! Air, six, form and landing, dropping 0.8. The
2:48:37 > 2:48:44Ukrainians and Abramenko know that it could be gold. These next two
2:48:44 > 2:48:51jumps, a lower degree of difficulty. They have to be absolutely perfect.
2:48:51 > 2:48:55Belarus, the Ukraine and Russia. Powerhouse nations, going toe to
2:48:55 > 2:49:07toe. Hladchenko, oh, no! And he has rinsed himself on the landing. He
2:49:07 > 2:49:17went for the double full, double full, full and he looks like he's
2:49:17 > 2:49:30done an hour with a Jack Russell. Roche on is going for Back
2:49:30 > 2:49:34Lay-Triple Full-Full. It is going to go from pedestrian up to 125 mph
2:49:34 > 2:49:46very quickly.Yeah.Ooh, he overrode faded. You could hear the coach
2:49:46 > 2:49:54yelling, stretch it, stretch it. So, Abra Manco is guaranteed silver.
2:49:54 > 2:49:56Abra Manco is guaranteed silver. So, the tornado starting there and it
2:49:56 > 2:50:01looks like he's going into hyperspace. That's macro Abramenko
2:50:01 > 2:50:08is guaranteed elbow. Rochon makes it into fourth place, just ahead of
2:50:08 > 2:50:13Hladchenko.
2:50:13 > 2:50:16Hladchenko. So, the sole Chinese athlete left will be the last man to
2:50:16 > 2:50:30jump. Zongyang.Zongyang, full bold, for glory, for China. -- for gold.
2:50:30 > 2:50:38Oh, that's going to push Abramenko. Burov giving it a round of applause.
2:50:38 > 2:50:50Abra Manco turning away. Because now, the torturous weight comes.
2:50:50 > 2:50:52now, the torturous weight comes.-- Abramenko turning away. If Mary
2:50:52 > 2:50:58Berry were judging this, she'd say perfect, just perfect.Silver Medal,
2:50:58 > 2:51:02Zongyang. So close and yet so far. It looks like this appointment and
2:51:02 > 2:51:08dare I say it, it is. It plays to the thought that for many Chinese
2:51:08 > 2:51:18athletes, silver is second place. The Ukrainians, they are mobbing
2:51:18 > 2:51:23Abramenko. You've got to give it to the 29-year-old. Zongyang is unable
2:51:23 > 2:51:29to celebrate that silver. He genuinely looks like a man who's
2:51:29 > 2:51:35lost rather than taking a medal. Yes, that's a real shame. It shows
2:51:35 > 2:51:40how much it means. You have to say that Burov has had a fantastic
2:51:40 > 2:51:54competition. And look at the scores. Just 0.46 separate in them.STUDIO:
2:51:54 > 2:51:57Yes and Abramenko is the first Ukrainian ever to win a Winter
2:51:57 > 2:51:59Olympics gold.
2:51:59 > 2:52:00Ukrainian ever to win a Winter Olympics gold. The president may
2:52:00 > 2:52:05have something to say for that sixth place for Belarus. Yesterday was the
2:52:05 > 2:52:12best day in Britain's windowless big -- Winter Olympics medals when we
2:52:12 > 2:52:15claimed medals. Lizzy Yarnold was a former track and field heptathlete
2:52:15 > 2:52:21before it was suggested to her that she may be perfect for the sport of
2:52:21 > 2:52:27bob skeleton. She hadn't heard of it. From being a Abramenko of all
2:52:27 > 2:52:32trades as she is a mistress of one, she is great Britain's greatest ever
2:52:32 > 2:52:37Winter Olympian and our standard-bearer, also a flag bearer.
2:52:37 > 2:52:41I know I'm a ruthless competitor when it comes to it. It's me and the
2:52:41 > 2:52:45track. You're lying on the sled, listening to the Rattle, the
2:52:45 > 2:52:51vibrations of the ice. It's just a complete orchestra of information.
2:52:51 > 2:52:57You have to be sure, if you're going headfirst. Nothing to block you,
2:52:57 > 2:53:03nothing to stop you. Nothing between you and triumphant or disaster. You
2:53:03 > 2:53:07just have to really look at the ice, understand the basics of the ice and
2:53:07 > 2:53:12then on the first day of training, you jump on the sled, you go down
2:53:12 > 2:53:21and see what it's doing with you. Life hasn't always gone Lizzy
2:53:21 > 2:53:25Yarnold like this, she wanted to be a heptathlete before she was pointed
2:53:25 > 2:53:28towards a sled. She relied on the generosity of others initially, a
2:53:28 > 2:53:32work colleague called Mervin sponsored her when money was short
2:53:32 > 2:53:38and her sled still has his name. Back then, she worked in insurance,
2:53:38 > 2:53:41a trade based on knowing what can go wrong. In a sport she was starting
2:53:41 > 2:53:47to dominate, it is one of terrifying risks. COMMENTATOR: Lizzy Yarnold
2:53:47 > 2:53:49has a few nervous moments to wait.
2:53:49 > 2:53:51risks. COMMENTATOR: Lizzy Yarnold has a few nervous moments to wait.
2:53:51 > 2:53:55Everything was building to Sochi. Lizzy Yarnold going for gold for
2:53:55 > 2:54:02Great Britain. Hitting the left-hand side, it doesn't matter, she's going
2:54:02 > 2:54:07to win the gold medal, surely? She could crash now and then it. She's
2:54:07 > 2:54:12going to do it, Lizzy Yarnold is the Olympic champion! My goodness. Maybe
2:54:12 > 2:54:17she'll come back in four years, who knows?I think she will, she has a
2:54:17 > 2:54:23lot more to bring.Within 470s of her gold she had won every skeleton
2:54:23 > 2:54:28title there was and then she walked away -- 470s days.I quickly focused
2:54:28 > 2:54:34on these new challenges and then I realised I was at the point of
2:54:34 > 2:54:39exhaustion and I needed to get away. She got married, she came back to it
2:54:39 > 2:54:43and what she always planned to do was to go back to the Olympics to
2:54:43 > 2:54:50defend her title. But you can't simply slide back into the skeleton.
2:54:50 > 2:54:54Sweat comes before the ice and last year she was diagnosed with an inner
2:54:54 > 2:55:00ear disorder. At the same time she couldn't find her former speed. In
2:55:00 > 2:55:04half of her World Cup races this season, Yarnold was outside the top
2:55:04 > 2:55:14ten.Not the form where she wants to going to the Olympics. The lesson I
2:55:14 > 2:55:18needed, to respect sport, to respect competition but mainly to understand
2:55:18 > 2:55:22that I know what I'm doing and I need to trust myself more.To those
2:55:22 > 2:55:25on the outside, the signs were not good but as Pyeongchang approached,
2:55:25 > 2:55:32Yarnold was positive. To have the confidence and faith in this plan
2:55:32 > 2:55:38that will be taking me to beyond Chang, it's not about the World
2:55:38 > 2:55:42Cups, it's about becoming the first British Winter Olympian to retain my
2:55:42 > 2:55:48title -- to Pyeongchang.Clearly Lizzy Yarnold is the other business.
2:55:48 > 2:55:54A lightning start, round one, first place, but something was wrong. The
2:55:54 > 2:55:57dizziness seem too has returned, Lizzy was also struggling to breathe
2:55:57 > 2:56:05because of a chest infection. She was close to pulling out.
2:56:08 > 2:56:12The Olympic champion, can she make history and wing it again?Look at
2:56:12 > 2:56:22the guts.-- win it again. Going to the front, and how!And with that
2:56:22 > 2:56:25the grammar school girl from Kent had become one of Britain's greatest
2:56:25 > 2:56:32sportswomen. Back-to-back Olympic champion.
2:56:32 > 2:56:37At about ten to 11 this morning, Lizzy and Laura Deas got their
2:56:37 > 2:56:45medals, the presentation ceremony. There is Laura. She becomes the
2:56:45 > 2:56:49fifth British debutant in skeleton to win a medal and that is
2:56:49 > 2:56:53succession planning! She'll be going for gold I'm sure. But there is
2:56:53 > 2:57:00Lizzy taking possession of a second gold. She enjoyed this, great to
2:57:00 > 2:57:04see. The only British Winter Olympian to stand on that podium
2:57:04 > 2:57:11twice, back-to-back gold. And didn't she sing the national anthem with
2:57:11 > 2:57:17some gusto!
2:57:17 > 2:57:22INAUDIBLE
2:57:58 > 2:58:00Only Ginette all the
2:58:02 > 2:58:08only two Winter Olympic gold medals -- medals for Britain, a gold and a
2:58:08 > 2:58:12bronze Mac but she is in a league of their own.You have a target on your
2:58:12 > 2:58:18back, everyone knows you are the one to beat but when you come back four
2:58:18 > 2:58:22years later the only way to be a success is to win again and these
2:58:22 > 2:58:28are marginal sports, such a fraction of a second. You're putting pressure
2:58:28 > 2:58:32on yourself by doing that and it's amazing that she's done it. You feel
2:58:32 > 2:58:36someone like Lizzy, she shares this with people, her team and everyone
2:58:36 > 2:58:41who supports her. We'll see what happens to Lizzy, we don't know what
2:58:41 > 2:58:45she will do or indeed her sled, Mervin but now she can enjoy her
2:58:45 > 2:58:47success.
2:58:47 > 2:58:49Coming into these Games, Austria's Marcel Hirscher
2:58:49 > 2:58:52was already an alpine skiing legend with 55 World Cup wins,
2:58:52 > 2:58:53second on the all-time men's list.
2:58:53 > 2:58:59But there was an asterisk after his name...no Olympic medals.
2:58:59 > 2:59:00No golds.
2:59:00 > 2:59:03But he removed any remaining question marks about his big-stage
2:59:03 > 2:59:05mentality with gold in the combined event on Tuesday.
2:59:05 > 2:59:07And today, he was aiming to add an exclamation mark
2:59:07 > 2:59:10in the men's giant slalom.
2:59:19 > 2:59:22RAP MUSIC.
2:59:28 > 2:59:32Still in France, on a mission here.
2:59:35 > 2:59:38The one thing missing from his trophy cabinet, an Olympic gold
2:59:38 > 2:59:47medal. Glorious slalom skiing.
2:59:50 > 2:59:53medal. Glorious slalom skiing. At last, an Olympic champion, Marcel
2:59:53 > 3:00:02Hirscher. Olympic GS champion and of course Alberto Tomba. They two time
3:00:02 > 3:00:02Hirscher. Olympic GS champion and of course Alberto Tomba. They two time
3:00:02 > 3:00:06winner. This is the 30 year anniversary sends his incredible,
3:00:06 > 3:00:12spectacular debut in the Calgary Games of 1988 when he went in the GS
3:00:12 > 3:00:16and slalom and got gold back-to-back. One of the great
3:00:16 > 3:00:22Alpine skiers and international playboys of our time!
3:00:22 > 3:00:25playboys of our time!He was who I watched growing up. I loved the fact
3:00:25 > 3:00:31the showman could be one of the best in the world. A few years later I
3:00:31 > 3:00:37met him and he slipped his telephone number down my back pocket!
3:00:37 > 3:00:40He was a charging bull of a skier, who at the age of 21,
3:00:40 > 3:00:43sensationally powered his way to both the GS and Slalom
3:00:43 > 3:00:44titles in Calgary 1988.
3:00:44 > 3:00:46Immediately afterwards in a live interview he requested
3:00:46 > 3:00:49that his father keep his promise of buying him a red Ferrari
3:00:49 > 3:00:51as a reward for gold, and promptly asked megastar
3:00:51 > 3:00:55ice-skater Katerina Witt out on date.
3:00:55 > 3:01:00Chemmy, quite simply Tomba transcended skiing,
3:01:00 > 3:01:02and technical skiing was never the same with the trademark
3:01:02 > 3:01:05second run Tomba charge, as he beautifully muscled his way
3:01:05 > 3:01:06down the mountain.
3:01:06 > 3:01:08Whatever position he was in after the first rung he was going to
3:01:08 > 3:01:12attack it. He managed to fall, bounce up and still win. That's how
3:01:12 > 3:01:23good he was.The main man three decades on is Marcel Hirscher.
3:01:24 > 3:01:31All watched by Graham Bell and Matt Chilton.
3:01:32 > 3:01:36COMMENTATOR: Final preparations are underway at the top of the course.
3:01:36 > 3:01:48Number one is already in the start heart.
3:01:52 > 3:01:58He's on his way, the winner of round two of the giant slalom World Cup.
3:01:58 > 3:02:08That was an home snow, just before Christmas a short drive home that
3:02:08 > 3:02:12night with the prize money. He comes in as one of the favourites. This is
3:02:12 > 3:02:20a good track. It's got lots of rollers. The skiers really like it
3:02:20 > 3:02:28in Yongpyong.
3:02:28 > 3:02:30in Yongpyong. Pinturault Chris Keenan first, nice clean track
3:02:30 > 3:02:40underfoot. He already has a medal from the Olympic Winter Games --
3:02:40 > 3:02:48Pinturault is skiing first. We had a bit of a way to get the alpine
3:02:48 > 3:02:54programme started because of the wind but now we are up and running.
3:02:54 > 3:02:58Into the second week, and Pinturault is looking for his second medal.
3:02:58 > 3:03:02He's had a fine run, always good to go number one on a clean track and
3:03:02 > 3:03:08he sets the pace. A shrug of the shoulders from the French coach,
3:03:08 > 3:03:20difficult to gauge until we see Hirscher come down.
3:03:20 > 3:03:26Hirscher come down. Hirscher is ready to go in Yongpyong. Explosive
3:03:26 > 3:03:31start. Still pushing between gate one and gate to. An early tuck
3:03:31 > 3:03:37position. Good absorption there. Great anticipation. Marcel Hirscher
3:03:37 > 3:03:48is flying, this is a fine start. Minimum time in the air. Now he sets
3:03:48 > 3:03:52out onto the flattest part of the course, looking to pick up some good
3:03:52 > 3:03:59speed. Speed he will hope to harness when the course becomes a little
3:03:59 > 3:04:07steeper and more demanding. Still green Marcel Hirscher. Already the
3:04:07 > 3:04:11Olympic champion in the Alpine combined. He could win three gold
3:04:11 > 3:04:17medals at these games. He's the favourite for this, he's the
3:04:17 > 3:04:24favourite for the slalom. He leads by the giant
3:04:24 > 3:04:26by the giant slalom World Cup standings. He's had a magnificent
3:04:26 > 3:04:36season. And he leads the Olympic giant slalom by a massive margin.
3:04:36 > 3:04:430.6 three. Half the job he's done, Marcel Hirscher. He knows he's still
3:04:43 > 3:04:48got the second run to come. That's what he's been doing all season
3:04:48 > 3:04:59long, he's in a league of his own. Henrik Kristoffersen is away. 38.2
3:04:59 > 3:05:05foot Marcel Hirscher. 38.57 for Henrik Kristoffersen. Marcel
3:05:05 > 3:05:17Hirscher leads the way, Pinturault is second.
3:05:17 > 3:05:21is second. Kristoffersen is nearly a full second slower. Might end up
3:05:21 > 3:05:27outside of the top four here. Kristoffersen is doing his level
3:05:27 > 3:05:33best to try and make up with a fast finish. He won't be quicker than
3:05:33 > 3:05:39Hirscher, his last the lot. Kristoffersen is the slowest of them
3:05:39 > 3:05:50all. 1.31 seconds behind Hirscher. That didn't go according to plan.
3:05:52 > 3:06:01Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen. Leif Kristian is right in there. At last
3:06:01 > 3:06:05there's a challenger to Hirscher's lead. It comes in the shape the
3:06:05 > 3:06:15Norwegian. It's got a bit more messy if Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen as
3:06:15 > 3:06:23he tries to emulate his 35-year-old team-mate and push for medal today.
3:06:26 > 3:06:34Third place for Nestvold-Haugen. That is a brilliant run. It could
3:06:34 > 3:06:44have been a lot better. A couple of big power slides, steering pivots,
3:06:44 > 3:06:49or Hirscher as the Americans like to call them. Hirscher has done what
3:06:49 > 3:06:55everyone expected.
3:07:01 > 3:07:04Now Kristoffersen had a disappointing first run by his
3:07:04 > 3:07:09standards. The second best giant slalom skier of the season, rank
3:07:09 > 3:07:14number two behind his great rival Marcel Hirscher. He is launching a
3:07:14 > 3:07:20charge in the early stages of this second run. Maintaining most of his
3:07:20 > 3:07:23advantage. Not many have gone for the tuck in the first 15 turns but
3:07:23 > 3:07:31Kristoffersen did. He's been exchanging messages with his dad who
3:07:31 > 3:07:34watches everything closely and keeps his son informed before he races.
3:07:34 > 3:07:41Nothing wrong with this top section from Kristoffersen. 0.66, the
3:07:41 > 3:07:44aerodynamic shape he adopted, the speed with which he attacked the top
3:07:44 > 3:07:49of the course has brought dividends. Kristoffersen, if he stays high, if
3:07:49 > 3:07:56he keeps it quick, avoids any mistakes, he may push Meillard out
3:07:56 > 3:08:01of top spot. He is getting quicker and quicker. Kristoffersen was the
3:08:01 > 3:08:07bronze medallist in the slalom four years ago behind the two Austrians.
3:08:07 > 3:08:12He will surely move into gold medal position here? He does so with a
3:08:12 > 3:08:20lead of 1.14 seconds. Kristoffersen more than makes up for the
3:08:20 > 3:08:29disappointing first run, as he skis into gold. Next to ski, the
3:08:29 > 3:08:43Slovenian Zan Kranjec. He charges out of the start. Cutting the
3:08:43 > 3:08:48tightest possible line through these first few turns. Six hundredths of a
3:08:48 > 3:08:53second, that's the advantage with which he starts this second run over
3:08:53 > 3:08:58Kristoffersen. He's dead level with the Norwegian leader. Kristoffersen
3:08:58 > 3:09:05put on a show on the second half of his run, and Zan Kranjec will need
3:09:05 > 3:09:11the run of his life to equal Kristoffersen. Down towards the big
3:09:11 > 3:09:16transition. He's lost time. This is where Kristoffersen moved it up
3:09:16 > 3:09:23through the givers. I'm not sure that Zan Kranjec can do that. I
3:09:23 > 3:09:26don't think he can replicate the sort of speed Kristoffersen
3:09:26 > 3:09:37produced. 0.27 down, top three places separated by a second and a
3:09:37 > 3:09:42half. There's room for Zan Kranjec to potentially ski into silver medal
3:09:42 > 3:09:51position. That's what he's got. 0.4 six. The Slovenians celebrate
3:09:51 > 3:09:54provisional silver. I'm not sure he's going home with a medal.
3:09:54 > 3:10:07Kristoffersen might. Still in gold medal position. Penultimate skier on
3:10:07 > 3:10:17the Hill, Pinturault from France. Bronze medallist in Sochi.
3:10:18 > 3:10:22Pinturault on his way. He's got a decent lead over Kristoffersen. He
3:10:22 > 3:10:28is added to that. Then he flies. It is scruffy. Taking risks there.
3:10:28 > 3:10:33Pinturault almost skied out of the course. Managed to make his landing.
3:10:33 > 3:10:36I don't think he lost too much speed. I think it was untidy at
3:10:36 > 3:10:49worst. Now he comes down towards the next split. 0.66, that advantage is
3:10:49 > 3:10:54still handy. Marcel Hirscher gets some sideways. This is a bit untidy.
3:10:54 > 3:10:58It's a risky second run from Pinturault as he pushes for gold
3:10:58 > 3:11:04medal position in the Olympic giant slalom. He hasn't got much left. 18
3:11:04 > 3:11:08hundredths of a second... This is going right to the wire.
3:11:08 > 3:11:14Pinturault's final turns are clean and fast. Now he lets them run.
3:11:14 > 3:11:19Kristoffersen can barely watch. Marcel Hirscher goes into silver!
3:11:19 > 3:11:26Kristoffersen stays in top spot -- Pinturault gaze into silver. Silver
3:11:26 > 3:11:40at worst the Kristoffersen. Pinturault is guaranteed a medal.
3:11:40 > 3:11:48Kranjec is still in bronze. Just Marcel Hirscher left a race. Not
3:11:48 > 3:11:56expert from -- not textbook from Pinturault. Really messy at times.
3:11:56 > 3:12:04Now they wait and watch. 1.31 seconds is the advantage for Marcel
3:12:04 > 3:12:09Hirscher as he comes into the second run. The greatest skier of his
3:12:09 > 3:12:15generation. Already the Olympic champion in the Alpine combined.
3:12:15 > 3:12:20Looking for the golden double. He's set off at quite a pace. Marcel
3:12:20 > 3:12:25Hirscher opens up a lead of 1.5 seconds over Kristoffersen. They've
3:12:25 > 3:12:29enjoyed some great rivalry in the last four or five seasons. In the
3:12:29 > 3:12:35last two is usually Marcel Hirscher who comes out on top. He's probably
3:12:35 > 3:12:42the best Austrian ski racer of all time. Still in front by a massive
3:12:42 > 3:12:471.49. He can get away with another couple of mistakes and still go on
3:12:47 > 3:12:54and claim his second gold of the Games. Marcel Hirscher carving
3:12:54 > 3:13:02beautiful turns, so much movement, so much athleticism on display. 1.52
3:13:02 > 3:13:06seconds, it's just too good. He's in a different league. Marcel Hirscher
3:13:06 > 3:13:11cruising towards gold medal number two. He's the giant Olympic
3:13:11 > 3:13:17champion! It's the golden double for Marcel Hirscher in Pyeongchang.
3:13:17 > 3:13:23There's no want to touch him right now. He could still win two more
3:13:23 > 3:13:29goals at these games. Marcel Hirscher, Kristoffersen, Pinturault
3:13:29 > 3:13:35the Olympic giant slalom medallists.
3:13:35 > 3:13:37STUDIO: Chemmy, he made that look so easy.
3:13:37 > 3:13:40Six tenths ahead after run one.
3:13:40 > 3:13:43Six tenths ahead after run one.
3:13:43 > 3:13:46He's a master craftsman. He was really getting the ski bending at
3:13:46 > 3:13:47the top of the turn and
3:13:47 > 3:13:49really getting the ski bending at the top of the turn and making speed
3:13:49 > 3:13:54at every gate. It's amazing. What is it about his technique that right
3:13:54 > 3:14:00now is so superior to everyone else's in these turning events? He's
3:14:00 > 3:14:03got really fast quick transitions which means he's able to get the ski
3:14:03 > 3:14:07biting at the top of the turn. There was a small mistake but it's because
3:14:07 > 3:14:11he's risking a lot with the line. He's trying to do a direct line,
3:14:11 > 3:14:17spending as short a time as possible on the edges. Look at his hip drive.
3:14:17 > 3:14:27Every turn he's moving forward and looking for speed. It's phenomenal.
3:14:27 > 3:14:28Alpine skiers and international playboys of our time!
3:14:28 > 3:14:31He said it was phenomenal, his ability and mental toughness. He
3:14:31 > 3:14:38broke his ankle last August and came back this season with a vengeance.
3:14:38 > 3:14:38He
3:14:38 > 3:14:40back this season with a vengeance. He wanted Olympic gold, he has one
3:14:40 > 3:14:45already and now he can just ski and connect with the hill. He's going to
3:14:45 > 3:14:51come back for the slalom.
3:14:56 > 3:15:01He could suddenly become one of the greatest of all time.He could win
3:15:01 > 3:15:06four, the team event, the Austrian team is amazing so he could win four
3:15:06 > 3:15:12golds.Henrik Kristoffersen going from tenth to second, he's a fiery
3:15:12 > 3:15:12character.
3:15:12 > 3:15:16from tenth to second, he's a fiery character.Very. They have a lot of
3:15:16 > 3:15:19respect for each other but that doesn't mean they don't want to be
3:15:19 > 3:15:24on the top. In the first run he looked lax, like he was giving the
3:15:24 > 3:15:27hill too much respect and the second run was a different animal coming
3:15:27 > 3:15:34down. He was faster than his second, going from tenth to second and he
3:15:34 > 3:15:39really put one down.In terms of what this tells us about the slalom
3:15:39 > 3:15:48event itself and the possibility of doing a Tomba, the giant slalom and
3:15:48 > 3:15:54slalom, for Hirscher, would you say that he's a shoo-in?I wouldn't bet
3:15:54 > 3:15:59against him, he's so strong. As Ted Ligety said, he has this mental
3:15:59 > 3:16:04confidence that surpasses everybody else and unless it goes disastrously
3:16:04 > 3:16:10wrong he'll take the gold as well. Austria will be cock-a-hoop as well.
3:16:10 > 3:16:15It is their true passion, the Alpine events. They've had a few World
3:16:15 > 3:16:18Championships where things haven't gone to plan so this will drive the
3:16:18 > 3:16:21next generation of Austrians, and there are millions on the slopes.
3:16:21 > 3:16:23OK, short and sweet for us today.
3:16:23 > 3:16:26Almost time to go, but a quick reminder of the big stories
3:16:26 > 3:16:33on Day eight in Pyeonchang.
3:16:33 > 3:16:39Even the headlines on day nine! James Woods narrowly missing out on
3:16:39 > 3:16:44a medal, sadly. He was fourth in the slopestyle. Shock, horror, there
3:16:44 > 3:16:50were no Dutch medals in the speed skating, it was Kodaira winning the
3:16:50 > 3:17:00500 today. The first French athlete to win four Olympic gold medals,
3:17:00 > 3:17:06Fourcade, in the biathlon. And a day after winning the women's cross
3:17:06 > 3:17:09country in the relay, Norway followed suit in the men's thanks to
3:17:09 > 3:17:15a
3:17:15 > 3:17:20a late Kampl. An Olympic Athlete from Russia is suspected of failing
3:17:20 > 3:17:28a doping test, notification of a possible violation of the rules by
3:17:28 > 3:17:31the IOC. Shall we show you the medal table?
3:17:31 > 3:17:35James "Woodsy" Woods so close to bumping Great Britain a little
3:17:35 > 3:17:37bit further up the medal table today, that fourth place
3:17:37 > 3:17:40in slopestyle, but he showed real style and class in his reaction
3:17:40 > 3:17:45to it.
3:17:45 > 3:17:50Norway have overtaken Germany at the top, both have nine gold medals but
3:17:50 > 3:17:54Norway have more silver and bronze so far.
3:17:54 > 3:17:57Quick reminder that you'll see it all again in bite-sized form
3:17:57 > 3:17:59at seven o'clock with Clare.
3:17:59 > 3:18:00Extra helpings at eight on BBC Four.
3:18:00 > 3:18:03And a lot going on overnight,
3:18:03 > 3:18:05including the very first Snowboard Big Air - in the Olympics.
3:18:05 > 3:18:07Women's qualification tonight with Aimee Fuller for Britain.
3:18:07 > 3:18:13Lot going on tomorrow, key games in the curling,
3:18:13 > 3:18:16it's getting very twitchy now in the men's and women's.
3:18:16 > 3:18:18Eve Muirhead's rink up against the Swiss, Kyle Smith's men
3:18:18 > 3:18:19taking on the Danes.
3:18:19 > 3:18:21That is it from Chemmy and me. We are going
3:18:21 > 3:18:25are going now to look through some of your old ski jackets to see if we
3:18:25 > 3:18:30can find a napkin with a very important phone number on it! From
3:18:30 > 3:18:34the two of us, goodbye for now. Cheers.
3:18:34 > 3:18:42It is the golden 44 Marcel Hirscher -- the golden double, for their
3:18:42 > 3:18:47share. The Norwegian taking the gold medal. Incredible drama at the
