0:00:37 > 0:00:42Elise Christie, but World Champion, clearly not fully fit with that

0:00:42 > 0:00:46ankle damage, but keen to have a go here if she can get through this

0:00:46 > 0:00:48heat. She will have another couple of days to recover.

0:00:48 > 0:00:54A wave a go, and Christie goes down before they reach the very first

0:00:54 > 0:00:58corner. And I think we will be restarting the race.

0:00:58 > 0:01:03She's going to go again, Elise Christie is not finished. Away they

0:01:03 > 0:01:09go. Christie at the back of the field. She has avoided any trouble.

0:01:09 > 0:01:15And now she can get up to speed. Three laps to go as they come

0:01:15 > 0:01:18around, and Christie just about manages to stay on her feet, just

0:01:18 > 0:01:23forcing her way into second place as they take the bell. Van Ruijven of

0:01:23 > 0:01:29the Netherlands leads with half a lap to go. Christie in position to

0:01:29 > 0:01:33qualify here. Van Ruijven first over the line, Christie in second.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37And this time, she manages to get the job done, almost going down

0:01:37 > 0:01:41again there. Managed to stay up and the referees

0:01:41 > 0:01:47are looking at the video replay. The referee has gone across. Yellow

0:01:47 > 0:01:51card, Elise Christie. I can't believe they have awarded her a

0:01:51 > 0:01:53yellow card. Elise Christie is out of the Olympic

0:01:53 > 0:01:54Games.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00It has been a desperately disappointing game for Team GB, for

0:02:00 > 0:02:05Elise Christie, a heartbreaking day. Her Olympic Games are over, and she

0:02:05 > 0:02:09will take a fair while now to recover both emotionally and indeed

0:02:09 > 0:02:14physically. She has this ankle injury, she may have damaged it by

0:02:14 > 0:02:17trying to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 1000 metres.

0:02:17 > 0:02:22Sarah Lindsey has been a friend and team-mate for over a decade. Nicola

0:02:22 > 0:02:26Minichiello is a World Championship gold medal winning bobsleigh driver,

0:02:26 > 0:02:30and Amy Williams, and Olympic champion. They know what it takes to

0:02:30 > 0:02:34be the best. Sarah Lindsey, right now, Elise Christie, you would think

0:02:34 > 0:02:38has had enough. But she said she would be back for Beijing.

0:02:38 > 0:02:43Straightaway reflecting and fairly clear-headed. It may be that we'll

0:02:43 > 0:02:48catch up with her in the next few days. She came out very positive,

0:02:48 > 0:02:54and she loves our sport and has done so much for it. Like she was saying,

0:02:54 > 0:02:58she has all these messages from kids and people she's inspired, which I

0:02:58 > 0:03:03think probably helps her. It isn't always the easy stories, it

0:03:03 > 0:03:09is the tough ones that have more effect.Oh, my God, sport has such

0:03:09 > 0:03:13highs and unfortunately today, such devastating lows today. She is a

0:03:13 > 0:03:16competitor, a three-time world champion, reigning world champion,

0:03:16 > 0:03:21but today she is an athlete that has gone out and not met anything she

0:03:21 > 0:03:26wanted to do. Devastating for her. Amy, when you are the star of the

0:03:26 > 0:03:29show, and you have been in that position when you are the one that

0:03:29 > 0:03:35everyone is looking at, it does make it even more difficult, doesn't it?

0:03:35 > 0:03:39Yeah, this pressure on athletes, and you are fighting for yourself and

0:03:39 > 0:03:43your coaches, for your team, for Great Britain, and it mounts up and

0:03:43 > 0:03:48becomes so big. But she is so inspirational to so many young

0:03:48 > 0:03:51people, the determination and grit, picking yourself up. Unfortunately,

0:03:51 > 0:03:57yes, in sport, there are not always highs, there are highs and lows, and

0:03:57 > 0:04:02we are watching her, and her low is in the public eye at these Olympics.

0:04:02 > 0:04:08It should be for her. She said in her interview, she will go back out

0:04:08 > 0:04:12and represent Great Britain and do Britain proud. She is taking a lot

0:04:12 > 0:04:16of responsible on there. She has already done a lot for the sport,

0:04:16 > 0:04:21and everybody knows what track is. But we are devastated for her, and

0:04:21 > 0:04:29we fielded the -- we are disappointed, and it is times 1

0:04:29 > 0:04:33million for Elise. If you are just joining us on BBC Two, this is what

0:04:33 > 0:04:38she said as soon as she came back out after realising she had a yellow

0:04:38 > 0:04:44card and was described by. I did everything I could to turn

0:04:44 > 0:04:49this around. I have ligament damage in my ankle, and putting a skate on

0:04:49 > 0:04:54is not the comfiest thing in the world. We did everything we could to

0:04:54 > 0:04:59turn this around. It just wasn't meant to be.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03If it was any other competition, would you have been on the start

0:05:03 > 0:05:09line today? No, I would have been off the ice for five of weeks. I

0:05:09 > 0:05:13wouldn't have gone on in the World Championships, and it wouldn't have

0:05:13 > 0:05:17been my choice. The only reason they gave me the choice is because it is

0:05:17 > 0:05:22an Olympics. The worst that could happen is I damage it more, and I

0:05:22 > 0:05:25may have, I have been kicked and thrown off the start. But that

0:05:25 > 0:05:31didn't matter. I trained all my life for this. It meant everything for

0:05:31 > 0:05:38me. Yet, it is done. I hope everyone watching will think

0:05:38 > 0:05:46you have a hell of a lot of guts. Yet, thanks! I

0:05:46 > 0:05:50Yet, thanks! I felt I really wanted to get short track out there. It is

0:05:50 > 0:05:57such an amazing sport. I am going to put my hands up, and say I have no

0:05:57 > 0:06:01idea why I have a yellow card. When I watched the race, I was kicked on

0:06:01 > 0:06:05the start and fell over. I have never had a yellow card in my life,

0:06:05 > 0:06:11I rarely get penalties. I went up the inside, and on the video, I am

0:06:11 > 0:06:17past the girl. I have no idea! The only thing I can think of is

0:06:17 > 0:06:20possibly the referee doesn't think it is safe for me to race with my

0:06:20 > 0:06:25ankle as it is. He was encouraging me to get off the ice after the fall

0:06:25 > 0:06:29at the start. If that is it, fair enough. I can see why he might not

0:06:29 > 0:06:34want me to race like that, because it might not be the safest. But,

0:06:34 > 0:06:39yeah... We know how much work you put in.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42You are talking about putting short track out there, you have already

0:06:42 > 0:06:47done that, you are the short track champion. How do you some up these

0:06:47 > 0:06:51games, because I think it's fair to say it has not gone very well.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54LAUGHTER

0:06:55 > 0:07:01You will have to ask me tomorrow. Right now, I am shell-shocked. I

0:07:01 > 0:07:07worked so hard to come back from this injury. I think 1000 people

0:07:07 > 0:07:13wouldn't have skated with my ankle how it was. The only thing I can say

0:07:13 > 0:07:20is, I can promise Britain I will come back from this, and I will come

0:07:20 > 0:07:24back for Beijing. And hopefully, I can do Britain proud then.

0:07:24 > 0:07:30STUDIO: She is thinking of how to put this right. Incredibly brave and

0:07:30 > 0:07:32resilient, Elise Christie, she stayed out doing interviews with

0:07:32 > 0:07:39radio, television as well. Here is the response of Team GB's

0:07:39 > 0:07:41performance director for short track skating, Stewart Laing.

0:07:41 > 0:07:47First of all, if I can ask about Elise Christie, the big short track

0:07:47 > 0:07:52hope for the games. It ended tonight, and I don't know how to

0:07:52 > 0:07:55describe the circumstances in which it ended. Put it into words for us.

0:07:55 > 0:08:02A shock, if you like. We have worked really hard over the last two days

0:08:02 > 0:08:08to get Elise to the start line and able to compete. She competed, she

0:08:08 > 0:08:10finished, she crossed the line in second. And then, unfortunately, had

0:08:10 > 0:08:19a Jelle Klaasen. We are in shock. -- had a yellow card.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23Were their complaints about the decision, getting the yellow card?I

0:08:23 > 0:08:27haven't watched the racing back and haven't had the chance to catch up

0:08:27 > 0:08:31with Nicky. We have been focusing on making sure we are able to look

0:08:31 > 0:08:37after Elise and support her. She has done a lot of media, so I am not in

0:08:37 > 0:08:40a position to comment on the yellow card at this point.

0:08:40 > 0:08:45The fact she was on the start line at all is testament to her and her

0:08:45 > 0:08:48desire to be out there. She did say the sort of injury she had,

0:08:48 > 0:08:53normally, if it wasn't the Olympic Games, she would look at 5-6 weeks

0:08:53 > 0:08:59of the eyes.Maybe 4-6. And that is purely and simply because we want

0:08:59 > 0:09:03the ligaments and ankle to be as strong as we can do. On the eyes,

0:09:03 > 0:09:08they are pushing from a 17 inch blade, and the power is going

0:09:08 > 0:09:13through the ankle. We would like it to be as optimal as it can be. The

0:09:13 > 0:09:17Olubi games comes every four years. We were medically cleared, we made

0:09:17 > 0:09:20the decision and Elise was at heart of that decision.

0:09:20 > 0:09:25You say you want to support Elise now, speaking to her afterwards, she

0:09:25 > 0:09:29seemed like she was already focusing on Beijing. She seems like she is

0:09:29 > 0:09:34already better than where she was four years back at Sochi.

0:09:34 > 0:09:39Absolutely. You have seen Elise this evening, she is far more robust

0:09:39 > 0:09:42after she was at Sochi. We have a national lottery to thank for that

0:09:42 > 0:09:46and the support they have given us throughout the four years cycle. It

0:09:46 > 0:09:51is great to hear an athlete in the position Elise is in talking about

0:09:51 > 0:09:55Beijing and the future. Hopefully, with the support of the national

0:09:55 > 0:10:00Lottery and UK sport, we continue the journey and target Beijing will

0:10:00 > 0:10:05stop I think the medal target was 1- to medals.It didn't happen for us,

0:10:05 > 0:10:11what is your take on that?A lot of people have said this is short

0:10:11 > 0:10:16track, which it is. We can't forget, Elise made a capital a final, coming

0:10:16 > 0:10:20forth outside the podium, so we have shown we have a genuine podium

0:10:20 > 0:10:24potential. We weren't able to realise it here. There are a number

0:10:24 > 0:10:28of great athletes coming through the ranks, Farrell Treacy, highest

0:10:28 > 0:10:33position, 14, at this and in big games. Kat Thomson, in another four

0:10:33 > 0:10:37years, I am sure she will be vying for medals as well. The future is

0:10:37 > 0:10:43bright, we will have potential that we didn't realise it. This is the

0:10:43 > 0:10:47sport of short track, it is a crazy sport.Everyone watching can see

0:10:47 > 0:10:51that. You can be the best in the world, and all it takes is a nudge

0:10:51 > 0:10:56to go down. For the people that decide whether money goes, do they

0:10:56 > 0:11:01understand that?I understand so. The director of performance were at

0:11:01 > 0:11:05the World Champion chips where Elise became world champion. We talk about

0:11:05 > 0:11:10being triple world champion, because one of them is not an Olympic event.

0:11:10 > 0:11:15But they fell in love with short track and have shown the support to

0:11:15 > 0:11:18short track speed skating over this Olympic cycle.

0:11:18 > 0:11:23What is next for Elise, Charlotte, Kat

0:11:23 > 0:11:25What is next for Elise, Charlotte, Kat, after Pyeongchang? We go home

0:11:25 > 0:11:32and review, take a break. At the end of a cycle, people work hard. One

0:11:32 > 0:11:36thing this season was that the Olympic qualifiers were so early,

0:11:36 > 0:11:40there was only a two week break from the end of one season to the next.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44Everyone will take downtime and breast, it will vary in terms of

0:11:44 > 0:11:48time. I think Elise and Charlotte might take a little bit longer, that

0:11:48 > 0:11:51is absolutely fine, but both are talking about their future and that

0:11:51 > 0:11:55is on the ice, which is great to hear.Have they discuss that with

0:11:55 > 0:12:00you? They both mentioned Beijing? It is not something we have entertained

0:12:00 > 0:12:04getting stuck into now because we want to focus on Pyeongchang, but

0:12:04 > 0:12:07the fact they are walking through the mix zone and talking about it,

0:12:07 > 0:12:12and that is music to my ears. Tough luck on the way it has panned

0:12:12 > 0:12:17out this week, but thanks for your time over the week. Thanks for the

0:12:17 > 0:12:20support.

0:12:20 > 0:12:24It has been a long night and come addition for Stewart Laing and the

0:12:24 > 0:12:30short track team and support team. These the allocation of funding is.

0:12:30 > 0:12:39Short track were predicted 1-2-mac

0:12:39 > 0:12:48They have achieved that name.We have to see how that goes. --

0:12:48 > 0:12:51haven't achieved. Like Stewart said,

0:12:51 > 0:12:51have to see how that goes. -- haven't achieved. Like Stewart said,

0:12:51 > 0:12:55we demonstrated we were good enough, but it is impossible to predict in

0:12:55 > 0:13:00our sport. That is what makes it so different. If you keep investing in

0:13:00 > 0:13:03Bobsleigh and skeleton, results will improve. You can invest as much as

0:13:03 > 0:13:08you like in short track, and you have an incident where you foul or

0:13:08 > 0:13:12someone found you and you are out. Three medals at the Olympic Games

0:13:12 > 0:13:15potentially, but coming away with none. It can go in your favour as

0:13:15 > 0:13:19well, you can be outside medal contenders, things can go wrong and

0:13:19 > 0:13:23you can take advantage, it is swings and roundabouts. It is such a

0:13:23 > 0:13:29terrible shame that we have somebody so good, she is the fastest girl out

0:13:29 > 0:13:33there, and it has unfolded the way it has.Do you think the Olympics is

0:13:33 > 0:13:37becoming this thing in her head? Did you see her skate differently? Is

0:13:37 > 0:13:45there anything you wish she had done? She skated brilliantly. If you

0:13:45 > 0:13:48look back through all the races, things were happening to her out of

0:13:48 > 0:13:53her control. She went into the Olympics satisfied with her previous

0:13:53 > 0:13:57performances. She is World Champion. On paper, that is much more

0:13:57 > 0:14:01difficult than the Olympics. The Olympics comes with other things

0:14:01 > 0:14:04that make it harder, but she knows she is the best, and she is

0:14:04 > 0:14:09comfortable with that. Obviously, the Olympics holds a lot of kudos

0:14:09 > 0:14:14for everybody outside the sport, and it gets media attention, so there is

0:14:14 > 0:14:17more pressure. She has gone into the com petition with a lot of weight on

0:14:17 > 0:14:21her shoulders.Looking at the funding graphic, Nicola, you were

0:14:21 > 0:14:26looking at Bobsleigh, who hasn't received any funding. Misha McNeill

0:14:26 > 0:14:32and Measham more of the quickest duo after the first run -- Mica Moore.

0:14:32 > 0:14:38We know they have talent and potential. This is testament, if you

0:14:38 > 0:14:41look at the start time, the start differential for every hundredth of

0:14:41 > 0:14:48a second at the start, that is automatically around 3 or 4-mac

0:14:48 > 0:14:50hundredths.

0:14:51 > 0:14:58They would have been right up there or do you see from this that gives

0:14:58 > 0:15:02you encouragement that they could move up the leaderboard? They need

0:15:02 > 0:15:06to be consistent on the start still. If they can maintain the time they

0:15:06 > 0:15:11had on this long run, she is driving it really well. She didn't make any

0:15:11 > 0:15:15big mistakes. She didn't really make any mistakes on what you can see.

0:15:15 > 0:15:20Tiny taps here and there. This will have given her confidence. She has

0:15:20 > 0:15:25great speed. She is building it up as she goes down the track. To know

0:15:25 > 0:15:32after run one, she is in sixth place. The double Olympic champion

0:15:32 > 0:15:39is in first place, who started faster and yet Mica has crept up. I

0:15:39 > 0:15:43would take a lot of confidence. She knows she needs to do exactly the

0:15:43 > 0:15:48same thing three more times and she might move up.

0:15:48 > 0:15:56Exactly. America leading the way, as Amy mentions, Kayleigh Humphreys,

0:15:56 > 0:15:59the double Olympic champion in fifth. Misha McNeill just behind her

0:15:59 > 0:16:09in sick. If you could say anything to them right now, what would it be?

0:16:09 > 0:16:14Just do your thing. Just focus on her. At this point, there will be

0:16:14 > 0:16:19Olympic fever going crazy. Everyone will want to talk about the

0:16:19 > 0:16:23opportunity of medals, but she needs to concentrate, same track, same

0:16:23 > 0:16:27sled, same drive, same start. They are going in reverse order. Here are

0:16:27 > 0:16:33one of the German crews. It's pick it up with John Jackson and John

0:16:33 > 0:16:37Hunt.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45COMMENTATOR: Eighth quickest off the blocks in one with 547, and they

0:16:45 > 0:16:52have gone slightly slower. The Austrian is leading. We go in

0:16:52 > 0:16:57reverse order from 20 down to one.

0:16:57 > 0:17:02She was one of the potential outside medallists, top five, top six, she

0:17:02 > 0:17:06is overdriving the sled. She hasn't dialled into the track today, for

0:17:06 > 0:17:11whatever reason, whether it is just first round nerve, she is not an

0:17:11 > 0:17:15experienced pilot. That is what she is costing her time. The German sled

0:17:15 > 0:17:19love this track. They love the speed at the bottom. But I don't know

0:17:19 > 0:17:22whether she has done too much and forced the line, and not found the

0:17:22 > 0:17:26speed.This is the world number seven pairing we are looking at a

0:17:26 > 0:17:31the moment. They are not looking like that at the moment. They can't

0:17:31 > 0:17:38get past Hengster, which is a great disappointment. There the Austrians

0:17:38 > 0:17:44enjoy a bit more time in centre stage. Same sort of time, but they

0:17:44 > 0:17:48just needed to go quicker. Others round them are going quicker. That

0:17:48 > 0:17:53is a different, when we talk about consistency with medal, it has to be

0:17:53 > 0:17:58quick, this is going to be middle of the road which is why she is sat

0:17:58 > 0:18:05where is is. Not a bad run at all.s there was no real mistake, a nudge

0:18:05 > 0:18:09in the wall, you see the difference between the lines here, a lot

0:18:09 > 0:18:14smoother line from the German sled, that could be just how much more

0:18:14 > 0:18:17work she has done, as they come on to the same line as exiting the

0:18:17 > 0:18:24corner. All these in the bottom half are

0:18:24 > 0:18:30currently desperately trying to get near to 51 seconds. When we get to

0:18:30 > 0:18:34the leaders they will be trying to get nearer 50. That is the

0:18:34 > 0:18:42difference. Here for Romania in 12th place. We have consince and Grecu.

0:18:42 > 0:18:49Very versatile these two. Each can operate either pilot or brake. The

0:18:49 > 0:18:53Romanians have done really well at this Olympic games in all sorts of

0:18:53 > 0:18:58disciplines. We saw it in luge, we saw it in the

0:18:58 > 0:19:06men's two man bob as well. Trying to hold on to 12th place. They need a

0:19:06 > 0:19:095.50 sort of start to push them to their goals.

0:19:09 > 0:19:14Again, one of the teams that are just suffering a bit with their

0:19:14 > 0:19:19overall sort of result, just because of their start. If they had a good

0:19:19 > 0:19:23start they would be further up the order. This pilot really drives

0:19:23 > 0:19:28well. Maria is still a developing pilot but has some good skills in

0:19:28 > 0:19:31the front of a sled. All the lines here are looking good, as she comes

0:19:31 > 0:19:35across, this pivotal part of the track, a nudge and a little

0:19:35 > 0:19:39nudge,some he is closing in, but is it going to sort, the time grow or

0:19:39 > 0:19:44is she going to catch up to the Austrian, she has lost a lot of time

0:19:44 > 0:19:48coming down that straight. It will be disappointing for them. They have

0:19:48 > 0:19:55dropped behind, can they pull any time back? No, they have lost over

0:19:55 > 0:19:59three tenths in one run on the Austrians who continue to smile and

0:19:59 > 0:20:05improve their position. Hengster still our leader. They will be

0:20:05 > 0:20:10disappointed with that, Constantin. It is a rare bad run for them.

0:20:10 > 0:20:14Nothing major but the bits are the difference, the times are so tight.

0:20:14 > 0:20:20If you make one mistake you have got the potential of dropping back two

0:20:20 > 0:20:25or three place, a little nudge here, little mistake at the top, but all

0:20:25 > 0:20:30in all she might have overdrove 12, which can cost a lot of time at the

0:20:30 > 0:20:37bottom. Moving all the time to the top ten.

0:20:37 > 0:20:46Mica McNeill and Mica Moore sit sixth. Belgian, in 11th place.

0:20:46 > 0:20:56Williamson and arts. Sixth in Sochi, fine result there. -- Aerts. . Twice

0:20:56 > 0:21:03being ranked in the top four, that has drifted away a bit.

0:21:03 > 0:21:10And here she goes, this is one of the slowest starring teams. 5.53

0:21:10 > 0:21:13they achieved earlier, they have gone slower, I that handicap

0:21:13 > 0:21:19themselves with this startThey do. This has been Willemsen's problem,

0:21:19 > 0:21:24she has had top four result, she is a quality driver but the issue is

0:21:24 > 0:21:29everybody has the same I quipment as the Belgians and so she is on a

0:21:29 > 0:21:33level playing field. That is why she can't drive them back like she used

0:21:33 > 0:21:38to be able to. She was good down the straight

0:21:38 > 0:21:42again, amazing line, right down the middle. She will carry the speed, a

0:21:42 > 0:21:47tap there, that won't cost her too much, but the peed is starting to

0:21:47 > 0:21:53drop away, because the Austrians' run was really good.History

0:21:53 > 0:21:58repeating itself for Willemsen here, can she hold the Austrians at bay?

0:21:58 > 0:22:03No, drops behind them. As the Austrians celebrate further they

0:22:03 > 0:22:14were clear at the top of this hill. Seven 8th of a mile.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18Not going to be sixth again on that run, John. No, certainly not. It is

0:22:18 > 0:22:22just because they have got far too much work to do from this point on,

0:22:22 > 0:22:26when they are at the top of the track, you can see here, she has a

0:22:26 > 0:22:31great line through the, the oh, into corner 12, she does a bit too much

0:22:31 > 0:22:35there, and scrubs off some speed. I think she overdrove the bottom of

0:22:35 > 0:22:41the track, which is why she started losing speed. There is our leader.

0:22:41 > 0:22:48Working till the last minute. Taylor, putting in the graft. She

0:22:48 > 0:22:58leads. Next up for the Olympic athletes of Russian team. In tenth

0:22:58 > 0:23:05place. Kocherzhova and Rodionova. In stark contrast to the Belgian team,

0:23:05 > 0:23:10these guys are like rockets off the blocks but it all just goes horribly

0:23:10 > 0:23:15wrong. At the end of testify track. You expect a good time here off the

0:23:15 > 0:23:20block, 5.30 something like that. 5.39. Still good. One of the best.

0:23:20 > 0:23:24This is why it is going wrong, you can hear her driving straightaway.

0:23:24 > 0:23:28The big mistake there, a bit too much in the top three Conners

0:23:28 > 0:23:32already, she is overdriving. That is where she is losing speed. She is

0:23:32 > 0:23:35doing too much. You can hear her cutting ice, she will get that wrong

0:23:35 > 0:23:39because she runs too long, too long on eight. She is getting a bit

0:23:39 > 0:23:44behind the sled. What I mean is she is missing the steering points which

0:23:44 > 0:23:49is why she looks a bit out of control. She has not been settled at

0:23:49 > 0:23:53all on this run. She will be lucky to stay ahead at this point from

0:23:53 > 0:24:00looking what the the clock is doing. She was nearly 25th hundreds in

0:24:00 > 0:24:06front of the Austrians that is in danger of evaporating and it has.

0:24:06 > 0:24:11She has lost nearly half a second on the Ouse stran, Hengster still in

0:24:11 > 0:24:17front. That was pretty moderate stuff from the Russians.Lots of

0:24:17 > 0:24:21mistake, all the way down that, was the problem, from corner four, on

0:24:21 > 0:24:26wards, it was just tap, corner, entrance wrong, entrance wrong,

0:24:26 > 0:24:30entrance wrong, and you can't have that at this level. The start was

0:24:30 > 0:24:36good, but you need four consistent drives, and there is half a second

0:24:36 > 0:24:40difference nearly between the first and second run, she has lost five

0:24:40 > 0:24:45places on one run, everything is so tight. You can't afford to make

0:24:45 > 0:24:50mistakes like that.

0:24:54 > 0:25:03mistakes like that. That.Hengster. Chat things the through. Here now,

0:25:03 > 0:25:07Canadians. Three teams here at the Olympic Games. They are all in the

0:25:07 > 0:25:14top nine at the moment. We will see Humphreys and Rissling shortly. This

0:25:14 > 0:25:23is De Bruyne and Lotholz in ninth place. The snapshot of run one was a

0:25:23 > 0:25:26good started but it slowly but surely slipped away, down the run,

0:25:26 > 0:25:32they lost speed after aed good start. 5.48. Almost exactly the same

0:25:32 > 0:25:38as run one, let us see if they can hold it this time.Christina is a

0:25:38 > 0:25:40relatively inexperienced pilot compared to the other Canadian, but

0:25:40 > 0:25:46maybe it was just a bit of first round nerve, hopefully she can

0:25:46 > 0:25:51settle in and make a move move forward. Don't think about the

0:25:51 > 0:25:56Austrian, think about moving forward and getting up the ranks. That

0:25:56 > 0:26:00should help her. She is pulling out of big margin, a lot will be to do

0:26:00 > 0:26:05with the start. This driver has been cleaned up. Maybe she might lose

0:26:05 > 0:26:11speed at the bottom but still she will have a lead. Lead. She started

0:26:11 > 0:26:16off with a three tenth advantage and it has grown to four tent, you are

0:26:16 > 0:26:22right, that just puts a bit of pressure on the next to to go, in

0:26:22 > 0:26:278th and seventh place.

0:26:28 > 0:26:328th and seventh place. It wasn't a lot quicker.That is the consistency

0:26:32 > 0:26:39you need. If you can't put four consistent runs down you end up

0:26:39 > 0:26:44dropping place, great overhead shots of the way the brake woman and pilot

0:26:44 > 0:26:48come into the sled. A couple of little errors but overall that was a

0:26:48 > 0:26:54good run. She will be happy with her first day's work. You can see how

0:26:54 > 0:27:01tight it is to miss the right wall and get into that corner.

0:27:01 > 0:27:05Canada lead but that leaderboard will be shaken up dramaticically in

0:27:05 > 0:27:11the next 15 minutes. -- dramatically.You can see the

0:27:11 > 0:27:15camaraderie between the athlete, ewhen hen they know they have put

0:27:15 > 0:27:21one down well they congratulate each other.

0:27:24 > 0:27:29other.In 8th place for Switzerland Rebsamen and Hafner. Shouting to

0:27:29 > 0:27:35each other, coaches bellowing, unbelievely Sabrina was fourth in

0:27:35 > 0:27:40the World Championships 13 years ago. 5.53. Not as quick as she would

0:27:40 > 0:27:45have hoped for.She has been in the sport of sliding for a while. She

0:27:45 > 0:27:49took a few years out. Did skeleton and now she is back in the

0:27:49 > 0:27:54bobsleigh, she is a quality pilot. Although she makes a mistake there,

0:27:54 > 0:28:01she runs a bit long on seven, a bit too high, to stay in front testify

0:28:01 > 0:28:06Canadians. Di.had a good run. She is tolding -- holding it but needs to

0:28:06 > 0:28:11be good through this part of track to keep hold. It is going to be a

0:28:11 > 0:28:16dead tie. She was very high on the curve

0:28:16 > 0:28:23there, she hit to the left-hand side, exit of 15 as well. Two costly

0:28:23 > 0:28:31points at the tail there. And Hafner can't get past De Bruyne. In fact,

0:28:31 > 0:28:37was 17 hundreds off. She is looking quizzical about that.Sloppy in

0:28:37 > 0:28:42place, she had a mistake at the top and one down the bottom and

0:28:42 > 0:28:47overdrove the sled. The start was OK, again, her roughly about where

0:28:47 > 0:28:56she would be within the pack but they both get in together to try and

0:28:56 > 0:29:02carry velocity, not bad through here, squeezes through, maybe

0:29:02 > 0:29:07overdrove corner 12 a bit. That is what has cost her a bit of time.

0:29:07 > 0:29:11The British women will be out in a minute. There is a big pairing to

0:29:11 > 0:29:19come next for Canada, who have had a great games here. Rissling and

0:29:19 > 0:29:24Heather Moyse, standing in seventh place.

0:29:24 > 0:29:29They were so consistent through their run, just really not quite

0:29:29 > 0:29:35fast enough with a 50.81 first time. They were second quickest off the

0:29:35 > 0:29:41blocks and they finished of course if seventh place as well. -- seventh

0:29:41 > 0:29:47quickest off the block. Moyse is an amazing athlete at the break.

0:29:47 > 0:29:52Rissling got in touch with her on Instagram to form this partnership.

0:29:52 > 0:30:01Moyse was formally with the former double gold medallist Humphreys. The

0:30:01 > 0:30:04first thing to watch for and hay have done it again, exactly the

0:30:04 > 0:30:10same. Now this run, I believe will be, no,

0:30:10 > 0:30:14I don't think, she made a mistake there, I was going to say this run

0:30:14 > 0:30:19could be the one she moves forward. She was third here last year but she

0:30:19 > 0:30:24has made a mistake at the top. Top. So I don't know if she going to

0:30:24 > 0:30:28settle in. He will want to stay in front of her team-mate who has put

0:30:28 > 0:30:34the run down and she was really good through there, she has a big lead.

0:30:34 > 0:30:38Will this be the run that will put pressure on Mica McNeill who is

0:30:38 > 0:30:45coming up? As she comes through the big curve into the speed trap.83mph

0:30:45 > 0:30:52at their peak. Rissling and Moyse, and that leader sap rated. They had

0:30:52 > 0:30:59a big advantage at one stage over De Bruyne. They held the advantage but

0:30:59 > 0:31:04it whittleded away, round the last three or four curves. It could have

0:31:04 > 0:31:09been because corner 12 wasn't as good, you don't look at the split

0:31:09 > 0:31:13you go through, you look at the one before, that is where the mistakes

0:31:13 > 0:31:16have been made or you have overdriven the sled. Again, you have

0:31:16 > 0:31:20two time Olympic champion on the back of your sled, it brings

0:31:20 > 0:31:24confidence to you, and she is a young pilot, first Olympic game, but

0:31:24 > 0:31:28it is about building that experience and that is what Heather is there

0:31:28 > 0:31:33are to to help her build experience. You can see the difference between

0:31:33 > 0:31:38the two Canadian sled, there is not much difference in the line,

0:31:38 > 0:31:42Rissling at the back,er sorry the other way round, it is not much

0:31:42 > 0:31:46difference in the line, you can see the small margins we have got

0:31:46 > 0:31:53between the top pilots coming

0:31:56 > 0:32:0314th quickest after run one with that 552, but they were a dream team

0:32:03 > 0:32:08down this track to put themselves in sixth place. Given what wrestling

0:32:08 > 0:32:15has done, there is a big chance they can hold six or better. 553 was

0:32:15 > 0:32:22anticipated.This gap will grow a little bit and that is down to the

0:32:22 > 0:32:27start. Mica is driving this track really well, considering that she

0:32:27 > 0:32:31has only had ten runs on this track. You can see the gap is starting to

0:32:31 > 0:32:36close. This is the part of the track she has been doing so well, getting

0:32:36 > 0:32:40the straight right. Coming through clean, she gets a tap, but she will

0:32:40 > 0:32:44carry enough speed at this point. Another mistake, she needs to settle

0:32:44 > 0:32:49into the run. She is closing, but is there enough track to come in front

0:32:49 > 0:32:54of the Canadians at the bottom? It has gone green, they are quicker,

0:32:54 > 0:32:57can they put pressure on Kaillie Humphries for the next position.

0:32:57 > 0:33:054-mac hundreds ahead of wrestling. That is a slight improvement of 100,

0:33:05 > 0:33:10relative to wrestling, who has just gone. But now, Kaillie Humphries to

0:33:10 > 0:33:22go. Babbel end run two no worse than six. It wasn't to be.It was due to

0:33:22 > 0:33:27the little mistakes in the lower part of the track. She had a great

0:33:27 > 0:33:38load into the sled. It was this, here. Getting a tap and she makes a

0:33:38 > 0:33:42mistake and that is where the time difference has gone. Overall, what a

0:33:42 > 0:33:49great day for this team.Sixth place at the higher end of expectations,

0:33:49 > 0:33:53John, wasn't it?It was. Realistically, Mica has had a top

0:33:53 > 0:33:59ten, but six is good. Now, Kaillie Humphries finds herself in fifth

0:33:59 > 0:34:04place with work to do if she is to hold on to the gold medal for the

0:34:04 > 0:34:12third time. Electric start, usually. We are

0:34:12 > 0:34:17We are talking 5.31, so she has done it again. Curiously for her, even at

0:34:17 > 0:34:23her elevated standard, it dribbled away in run number one. This is the

0:34:23 > 0:34:29run Kaillie Humphries needs to keep her Olympic... retaining her Olympic

0:34:29 > 0:34:32title for a third time alive. If she gets it wrong at any point, her

0:34:32 > 0:34:36chances of a medal are gone, certainly the gold. She needs to be

0:34:36 > 0:34:42good through this point. This is her sort of best now. I think she is

0:34:42 > 0:34:49losing speed. I don't know whether Mica will come in front of her, but

0:34:49 > 0:34:53she is losing speed to the British sled.If she keeps on losing speed,

0:34:53 > 0:35:00she is already 2-mac tempts behind. She only finishes a tenth ahead of

0:35:00 > 0:35:07Mica McNeill. More of a gap between Humphries and McNeill between fifth

0:35:07 > 0:35:13and six, but whether that is good enough,

0:35:15 > 0:35:17enough, there is real doubts now that Kaillie Humphries can get

0:35:17 > 0:35:24herself another gold-medal.You can see it in her eyes. She knows it

0:35:24 > 0:35:30wasn't good enough. A great pair of athletes on the sled. A great start,

0:35:30 > 0:35:33but she is losing speed at the bottom of the track. That is coming

0:35:33 > 0:35:40from over driving eight down to 12, killing the speed as we get down to

0:35:40 > 0:35:45the bottom part of the track.

0:35:46 > 0:35:48the bottom part of the track. You just can't find the speed, it is so

0:35:48 > 0:35:55easy to lose it.Into the top four. Two strong American teams, and two

0:35:55 > 0:36:00strong German teams. Next up in fourth place, Stephanie Schneider.

0:36:00 > 0:36:06She went 5.35 earlier. Number five in the world. She dropped to 18 last

0:36:06 > 0:36:12year or the year before, largely due to injury, a broken collarbone

0:36:12 > 0:36:17twice, I think. There is a rumour around that she is still carrying an

0:36:17 > 0:36:23injury here, Schneider. 5.35, she has gone quicker than that. There is

0:36:23 > 0:36:26every chance she can cement her position relative to Kaillie

0:36:26 > 0:36:32Humphries.That was a little mistake there in corner two on the entrance

0:36:32 > 0:36:36to corner three. Another mistake there. She is a relatively

0:36:36 > 0:36:38inexperienced pilot compared to Kaillie

0:36:38 > 0:36:41inexperienced pilot compared to Kaillie. Is this where she will drop

0:36:41 > 0:36:49behind and Kaillie will show her experience? The Germans really,

0:36:49 > 0:36:52their equipment loves the fast part of the track down here. Is this

0:36:52 > 0:36:56where she pulls ahead of Kaillie Humphries because she has started

0:36:56 > 0:37:00losing speed? It certainly looks like she is losing speed at the

0:37:00 > 0:37:03bottom compared to Kayleigh. The Germans sled stone normally lose

0:37:03 > 0:37:13speed. A fraction ahead of Humphries. Humphries has seen the

0:37:13 > 0:37:18gap close on Schneider. There she is, Kaillie

0:37:18 > 0:37:21gap close on Schneider. There she is, Kaillie, on the right. 50.93

0:37:21 > 0:37:26won't be good enough. We saw it in the men's event, run two,

0:37:26 > 0:37:29invariably, they were slower than run one. That is what happened here.

0:37:29 > 0:37:37It certainly is. They have obviously had 17 sled is go down already. The

0:37:37 > 0:37:41track will scuff up a little bit, but some of the lines are not as

0:37:41 > 0:37:47consistent and good as the first run. They were online and in the

0:37:47 > 0:37:51zone. Now, they are relaxing and things are getting loose for these

0:37:51 > 0:38:01inexperienced pilots stop Mica McNeill and Mica Moore, no worse

0:38:01 > 0:38:07than six at the end of today. It is a great achievement. Now we move on

0:38:07 > 0:38:14to those who have a big chance for the medals. First of the American

0:38:14 > 0:38:19teams, Sabina Hafner, bronze medallist in Sochi. Always

0:38:19 > 0:38:27competitive together with Aja Evans behind her. They won in Park City,

0:38:27 > 0:38:34consistent this winter, the only blip

0:38:39 > 0:38:45blip came earlier in the season. 5.32 would be a good replica time,

0:38:45 > 0:38:50slightly slower, a 50.59 would be good news like they achieved in run

0:38:50 > 0:38:54number one.It would and they have got through the crucial part of the

0:38:54 > 0:39:01track really well. I was watching to see if they got through. 1 Hundred

0:39:01 > 0:39:03behind at the moment. They will start pulling away from the Germans

0:39:03 > 0:39:07as they come down the track, because they made a lot of mistakes at this

0:39:07 > 0:39:10point. Building speed now. This is crucial, the corner as they come

0:39:10 > 0:39:17through the stage. The American sleds really like building speed at

0:39:17 > 0:39:22the bottom part of the track. Is it enough? Yes, I think she will pull

0:39:22 > 0:39:28ahead, but by how much in the flat part of the track?Four hundreds

0:39:28 > 0:39:32ahead of the run one, she has dropped back into the red. She is

0:39:32 > 0:39:38behind Schneider now. We did not expect that. Schneider and Jamie

0:39:38 > 0:39:44Greubel Poser swap places. Schneider goes third, Greubel Poser will

0:39:44 > 0:39:50probably be fought. The two still to come may have good runs. We should

0:39:50 > 0:39:55know, John, never, ever assume before we see on this track.

0:39:55 > 0:40:01Certainly not. Just to go back to Mica's run, Mica was faster than the

0:40:01 > 0:40:07person that was in... she is around third and fourth place. It shows how

0:40:07 > 0:40:15well the Brits driving. That mistake in the straight cost her.Worth

0:40:15 > 0:40:23emphasising, Mica's overall position to the leader is now only 0.16 off

0:40:23 > 0:40:30Schneider. Let's see what the final two do. This is Mariama Jamanka, the

0:40:30 > 0:40:35former Hammer thrower, presenting Germany with Lisa Buckwitz. They are

0:40:35 > 0:40:42good starters, not usually the fastest. 5.37 was their speed in run

0:40:42 > 0:40:50one, marginally slower. Jamanka gave it everything in run one to sit

0:40:50 > 0:40:55second.A mistake that she got away with. The sled touched down. A

0:40:55 > 0:41:03mistake again. These small margins, these pilots have to be perfect. The

0:41:03 > 0:41:07first person to fringe will miss out on a medal. Medals can't be won

0:41:07 > 0:41:13today, but they can be lost, as you get through centimetres off the

0:41:13 > 0:41:16perfect line, but that is the difference between getting it right

0:41:16 > 0:41:19and costing time. She has got to keep a good margin as she comes down

0:41:19 > 0:41:24to the speed trap.A good margin as well. Jamanka finishing well for

0:41:24 > 0:41:32Germany. She puts herself in a great position. Jamanka has moved three

0:41:32 > 0:41:45tenths ahead of Schneider and Greubel Poser. It is a case

0:41:45 > 0:41:50Greubel Poser. It is a case now of Elana Meyers Taylor doing better.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53That was great from Jamanka.A couple of little mistakes here and

0:41:53 > 0:41:59there. It was almost perfect. Through here, it looks like she taps

0:41:59 > 0:42:04on the wall, just there, that nudge across is crucial, just hundredths

0:42:04 > 0:42:09of a second. What we need to see now is Elana Meyers Taylor put a big run

0:42:09 > 0:42:13in. If she doesn't, she's going to drop behind. Because that was a good

0:42:13 > 0:42:26run.It was. Jamanka in great shape. 1 to go.

0:42:26 > 0:42:31Currently in first place, the Americans, Elana Meyers Taylor and

0:42:31 > 0:42:36Lauren James. They were the quickest starters and they were in front as

0:42:36 > 0:42:44well at the finish. They had a two hundreds advantage. They have seen

0:42:44 > 0:42:49Jamanka take a big lead over the rest of the field. Meyers Taylor

0:42:49 > 0:42:53needs to do the same. If you missed run one, it was very quick but

0:42:53 > 0:42:58littered with errors. Meyers Taylor goes off in pursuit of the one prize

0:42:58 > 0:43:03that has eluded her throughout her career, an Olympic gold medal, 5.21

0:43:03 > 0:43:07is a track record to start with. This is why they are in the lead.

0:43:07 > 0:43:14That is a big mistake. That is what is going to cost her, 23 hundredths

0:43:14 > 0:43:19of May but her in the red, or she may hold onto the green. She has

0:43:19 > 0:43:24lost a tenth in two corners, so I think she will struggle to keep

0:43:24 > 0:43:28that, unless she is perfect, which she wasn't through here on the first

0:43:28 > 0:43:34run.

0:43:34 > 0:43:39run. Yeah, you can see it, but has she got enough?Meyers Taylor was

0:43:39 > 0:43:46fast as well. Germany, the states, Jamanka, 2-1, the two will be the

0:43:46 > 0:43:53leaders. Meyers Taylor has lost the lead, 7 hundredths behind Mariama

0:43:53 > 0:43:58Jamanka, who will lead after day one. The big message is that those

0:43:58 > 0:44:07two are a comfortable margin ahead of Humphries, Greubel Poser. But

0:44:07 > 0:44:14Mica McNeill, as we will see in a moment, is less than two tenths of

0:44:14 > 0:44:18the medals at the moment. A big statement run from Mariama Jamanka

0:44:18 > 0:44:25in particular. As Meyers Taylor loses the lead.It was this mistake.

0:44:25 > 0:44:29We have gone past it already. Not here, that was another mistake. It

0:44:29 > 0:44:33was in corner two when she had a big tap on the left and a big slide

0:44:33 > 0:44:37around corner three. That cost her. You can see the snow thrown up as

0:44:37 > 0:44:43the break woman stopping the sleds. It is hard to stop these sleds at 80

0:44:43 > 0:44:48mph.

0:44:50 > 0:44:57mph. Everyone heading back and requiring a big night of sleep.

0:44:57 > 0:45:01Getting the congratulations is Mariama Jamanka, on the right, Elana

0:45:01 > 0:45:05Meyers Taylor, who lost the lead. At the halfway stage, close between

0:45:05 > 0:45:11Jamanka and Elana Meyers Taylor, quite a big gap to Schneider,

0:45:11 > 0:45:15Greubel Poser and the defending Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries

0:45:15 > 0:45:19in fifth place. But then, only a tenth behind them the Great Britain,

0:45:19 > 0:45:26still in sixth place. Mica McNeill and Mica Moore.

0:45:26 > 0:45:33STUDIO:

0:45:33 > 0:45:36behind but only just.

0:45:38 > 0:45:45Great speed in the first two runs, quite exciting.

0:45:45 > 0:45:49It is a brand-new track so this is day six on the track for us, and we

0:45:49 > 0:45:53haven't had a lot of time here, our focus, we wanted to build each run

0:45:53 > 0:45:58on the start and the drive down, but it's a front track and it's going

0:45:58 > 0:46:00well so far, so we're looking forward to carrying that into

0:46:00 > 0:46:05tomorrow.What has been your mind set for your first Olympics?Oh my

0:46:05 > 0:46:09gosh, mainly enjoy it. It is both our first Olympics and we have done

0:46:09 > 0:46:14so well to get here, and we just want to ensure it and hopefully that

0:46:14 > 0:46:21enjoyment will result in a good position.

0:46:22 > 0:46:26Mica, most team B athletes have an enormous amount of support but you

0:46:26 > 0:46:31have had supporters who got you here.Definitely, we stand by all

0:46:31 > 0:46:36the way through to the Olympics were were brought by the people. We want

0:46:36 > 0:46:40to say a massive thank you, our family and friends behind us all the

0:46:40 > 0:46:44way and the kind messages from everyone at home. It has been

0:46:44 > 0:46:47incredible and overwhelming support. We have urn theed our Wi-Fi off

0:46:47 > 0:46:53today because we wanted to just focus on the race but we are excited

0:46:53 > 0:46:57to read the messages tomorrow. So we have 21, 22 hourses before you race

0:46:57 > 0:47:02again, what is your mind going to be full of between now and then?I

0:47:02 > 0:47:07think I am going to replay the run through my mind. It was fun, I

0:47:07 > 0:47:13enjoyed it. It is amazing to be out there with Mica.ThereThere is a

0:47:13 > 0:47:17message from everything in the studio which is do your thing.Thank

0:47:17 > 0:47:22you so much. Just great to see those smiling

0:47:22 > 0:47:29faces. This is the classic underdog story. This is so exciting, and she

0:47:29 > 0:47:33had the talent, she had the potential. This is a reflection, she

0:47:33 > 0:47:38said there is no pressure, they are going tout to enjoy it. Considering

0:47:38 > 0:47:43she has had less runs than everybody else on the track, she has a nice

0:47:43 > 0:47:48feeling for it. Mica is a great driver, they are a fantastic team.

0:47:48 > 0:47:55They put down two solid teams. They are only 16 hundredth off bronze

0:47:55 > 0:48:00medal place. They have had six runs to learn these 16 corners, and you

0:48:00 > 0:48:04are doing like two or three steers or more in each corner, having to

0:48:04 > 0:48:08change your decision so quickly, if you make a bump like that, how am I

0:48:08 > 0:48:13going to get through the next one? She is such a natural driver, and,

0:48:13 > 0:48:17me and Nicola have beaming faces because it is

0:48:17 > 0:48:19me and Nicola have beaming faces because it is so exciting to see two

0:48:19 > 0:48:22young girls not knowing this track in sixth place. As they say power by

0:48:22 > 0:48:26the people. Everybody who has invested in them they are getting

0:48:26 > 0:48:30their money's worth.Just a bit. If it wasn't for the people, the

0:48:30 > 0:48:33British public who got behind them, they wouldn't be here, that is just,

0:48:33 > 0:48:37they wouldn't have got to the start line. This is just an amazing story.

0:48:37 > 0:48:42You wonder if they had had full support and funding, how much higher

0:48:42 > 0:48:47up would they be?This is our future, these two girls are here in

0:48:47 > 0:48:51the bobsleigh, that I train in Bath. They have the push track there, they

0:48:51 > 0:48:55can practise their start, get stronger and faster, she is a

0:48:55 > 0:48:58natural driver, and we with good coaching and a lot of time on the

0:48:58 > 0:49:03ice bring on four years after that. I can't believe they have to car

0:49:03 > 0:49:07Irish their own bob off the ice! One of the runs I am sure they will look

0:49:07 > 0:49:18at to see how the drive course well is the Jamaican first crewShe is

0:49:18 > 0:49:23fantastic. She is relatively inexperienced but the underdog. She

0:49:23 > 0:49:29wasn't one of the favourite, she has gone out there. Fantastic velocity

0:49:29 > 0:49:36again and the lines are clean. It a tidy run.3.72, the fastest of the

0:49:36 > 0:49:40second runs.Yes, and once you have got that, you have your confidence,

0:49:40 > 0:49:44you know the track, you like it, you have to be consistent, keep your

0:49:44 > 0:49:48head together and it is such a psychological game, the drivers can

0:49:48 > 0:49:52be almost as skilled as each other, who can hold it together in the

0:49:52 > 0:49:58head. As we saw after the Germans come down here, the Americans had an

0:49:58 > 0:50:00incredible start time. Track record, they couldn't keep it together on

0:50:00 > 0:50:06the head. It is, you have tiny change, hundredth of a second. I

0:50:06 > 0:50:13think we will see a few of the bobs in the top 1, 2, 3 places should

0:50:13 > 0:50:21shift round. It could be exciting. After the first day the Olympic

0:50:21 > 0:50:26champion was in sixth place. There has been a lot of talk about the

0:50:26 > 0:50:32Jamaican crew, the first female crew 30 years after the men made their

0:50:32 > 0:50:37debut. It has been a disappointed two runs.On the first run, Jaz

0:50:37 > 0:50:42slipped is off the handle. It took her four or five steps to get in her

0:50:42 > 0:50:47groove. It was just messy, her first two of the week,Fenlator-Victorian

0:50:47 > 0:50:55is the pilot. Behind her, Russell who was a good relay runner, didn't

0:50:55 > 0:51:00she win a World Championship gold medal?Yes, in the 2013 World

0:51:00 > 0:51:04Championships, so she is world class, and for her transferring over

0:51:04 > 0:51:09to bobsleigh it was about trying to use everything she had through

0:51:09 > 0:51:13track, in March she will be starting in the front seat so it is

0:51:13 > 0:51:19continuing their legacy. 30 years after the men in 1988 from Calgary.

0:51:19 > 0:51:23To see a Jamaican bobsleigh and a woman's one, it is history in the

0:51:23 > 0:51:28making.Let's hear from both of them they spoke the Matthew.

0:51:28 > 0:51:30making.Let's hear from both of them they spoke the Matthew. Hower with

0:51:30 > 0:51:34your runs?I am pretty proud of the runs today. They were consistent. I

0:51:34 > 0:51:39know there is little things that can be improved. Runs won't be perfect.

0:51:39 > 0:51:43Looking to debrief today, see what I can improve upon tomorrow and start

0:51:43 > 0:51:47again tomorrow.Your week has been a bit up and down I guess with

0:51:47 > 0:51:51training and some of the politics behind the scene, has that been

0:51:51 > 0:51:58difficult to deal with? Not really for me, because I have thought

0:51:58 > 0:52:04myself to separate stuff if that is not my job. My job is to be an

0:52:04 > 0:52:08athlete here, I am here to come, slide, recuperate and revise what we

0:52:08 > 0:52:14did in the day and stuff like that. Are you happy with the equipment and

0:52:14 > 0:52:20the coach you have at the momentI mean, I am happy with what we have

0:52:20 > 0:52:25now and I was before, it doesn't change what happens a, I am enjoying

0:52:25 > 0:52:29the moment right now.Jamaica has a proud tradition in bobsleigh, how

0:52:29 > 0:52:33important is it for you to be here, continuing that?It really means a

0:52:33 > 0:52:38lot. At the end of the day, as much as we are not happy with our place,

0:52:38 > 0:52:43we know there is a bigger picture, we are the what happens a, I am

0:52:43 > 0:52:45enjoying the moment right now. Jamaica has a proud tradition in

0:52:45 > 0:52:48bobsleigh, how important is it for you to be here, continuing that?It

0:52:48 > 0:52:51really means a lot. At the end of the day, as much as we are not happy

0:52:51 > 0:52:55with our place, we know there is a bigger picture, we are the first

0:52:55 > 0:52:57women's eteam for our "and land and the first women's team in the Winter

0:52:57 > 0:53:00Olympic, that is a trailblazer, I am hoping to build on that, that is

0:53:00 > 0:53:02what barriers are made to be broken and we will take that positive and

0:53:02 > 0:53:04use it as motivation for tomorrow to get better.

0:53:04 > 0:53:07So just to recap, Germany lead the way, going into heat three, and

0:53:07 > 0:53:10Great Britain are in the top six. Could they move up into a medal

0:53:10 > 0:53:12position? Could they finish top five, top four? Who knows, they will

0:53:12 > 0:53:15be sleeping tonight dreaming, dreamling of the chance of a medal

0:53:15 > 0:53:19tomorrow and heat three will be live at 11.40 tomorrow and heat four, the

0:53:19 > 0:53:24medal decided run when they go in reverse order will be from 1.00 on

0:53:24 > 0:53:29BBC Two. But it is time now for me to hand on the baton, or if we were

0:53:29 > 0:53:36doing the relay I in short track I would push you to Hazel Ervine.

0:53:36 > 0:53:40Ladies the champagne is on ice in the women's bob for tomorrow. We are

0:53:40 > 0:53:44looking forward to that. I am sure you is been following the ice hockey

0:53:44 > 0:53:49matches so far. It has looked predictable in the women's events

0:53:49 > 0:53:51with the USA against Canada, anything but predictable in the

0:53:51 > 0:53:55men's and we had quarterfinal places up for grabs today, and the first of

0:53:55 > 0:53:59the matches we will see pits the Finns against South Korea. This has

0:53:59 > 0:54:04been a cracking match so far. It is still going on, five goals so far

0:54:04 > 0:54:06and these are they.

0:54:06 > 0:54:11still going on, five goals so far and these are they.

0:54:11 > 0:54:24Looking to switch play round. Tolvane. Should be dealt with by

0:54:24 > 0:54:31Plant. Fantastic finish.

0:54:31 > 0:54:40Plant. Fantastic finish. Kontiola. You don't see too many players in

0:54:40 > 0:54:47world hockey that can do that and Finland have a lead.

0:54:49 > 0:54:59Side of the net. The man out in front and a second power play goal.

0:54:59 > 0:55:03Comes off his skates and goes over the line. Not a thing of beauty but

0:55:03 > 0:55:08a thing of real function and Finland are well on course for a date with

0:55:08 > 0:55:13the Canadians in the quarterfinals. They are leading the hosts Korea but

0:55:13 > 0:55:19two goals to nil. Tolvanen did well. The danger is not cleared and it is

0:55:19 > 0:55:32in the back of the net. Heiskanen with the Senate shot. He

0:55:32 > 0:55:39stayed with it and snapped it home. Dalton couldn't keep it out and

0:55:39 > 0:55:45Finland lead by three goals to nil. Is there one last chance? Under ten

0:55:45 > 0:55:56minutes to go. It is there. A goal for the Koreans. Finished off from

0:55:56 > 0:56:05close range. Look what it means. This place has erupted. Korean flags

0:56:05 > 0:56:12everywhere waving. Radunske scores. Where ever you glance there is

0:56:12 > 0:56:15something happening in this game. Fall, a turn over, a chance and now

0:56:15 > 0:56:19the opportunity to work it. There is a player without his stick as well.

0:56:19 > 0:56:26That is a great finish. 3-2. Korea fighting back here. They have

0:56:26 > 0:56:34momentum. They are moving they want a place in the quarterfinals and in

0:56:34 > 0:56:37their first Olympic game, they are lighting it up right now.

0:56:37 > 0:56:51Stunning finish. And you have to credit him. A terrific shot from Ahn

0:56:51 > 0:56:59Jin Hui. He has this arena rocking now.

0:57:00 > 0:57:06now. Kontiola touched it. A good save by Dalton. He is not worried

0:57:06 > 0:57:11about getting three goal, he wants his team to have four. Dalton

0:57:11 > 0:57:22continues to stand tall as he tracks that puck off the rebound.

0:57:22 > 0:57:23that puck off the rebound. Off the shot of Ohtam Galina Arsekina. What

0:57:23 > 0:57:31a save. Even with number 8 is lurking as well. It goes through his

0:57:31 > 0:57:41skates. That is fantastic stuff there by Dalton.Nice and low.Easy

0:57:41 > 0:57:54for his team-mates to tip. Got all the way through as well.

0:57:55 > 0:58:03Matt Dalton has been a super start.

0:58:03 > 0:58:06Quickly it comes back and high and over the top from the Finnings as

0:58:06 > 0:58:13well. -- Finns as well.

0:58:13 > 0:58:17Now it comes back anchorians will step in again and try and clear this

0:58:17 > 0:58:31one away. Good work to get it down the ice from Cho Min Ho. Finland

0:58:31 > 0:58:36trailing but they fought back as Swift goes in the corner, he will go

0:58:36 > 0:58:41chasing. Neat play though by the Finns to get it away and it is with

0:58:41 > 0:58:47one of their youngs player, the man who leads the way in points so far,

0:58:47 > 0:58:56Tolv a anen.Plant, this one hurts. Tolvanen you have to respect him all

0:58:56 > 0:59:03over the ice, you give him an inch and he can make you pay and see the

0:59:03 > 0:59:06frustration from Plante. He gets his one handed stick, and he has one

0:59:06 > 0:59:11hand on it. When you get it in between the arms and body, the

0:59:11 > 0:59:22referees don't like that. That is a tough call. But it goes to show how

0:59:22 > 0:59:27dangerous Tolvanen is.

0:59:29 > 0:59:33dangerous Tolvanen is.Plante's dad play for Peterborough. That is where

0:59:33 > 0:59:38he played his junior career, now gracing an Olympic Games for South

0:59:38 > 0:59:42Korea. Here is a chance at the side of the net. This is Finland's

0:59:42 > 0:59:45opportunity to finish this. It is forced home and they have the goal

0:59:45 > 0:59:52they want. Finally some breathing space for Finland. On the power

0:59:52 > 1:00:01play, again. It is their third power play goal of the game. Plante didn't

1:00:01 > 1:00:05like the decision, the scramble forcing Pastor Maldonado Dalton and

1:00:05 > 1:00:10over the line. This is an ugly goal. Everyone gets a whack at it.

1:00:10 > 1:00:14Everybody everyone gets a whack and it rolls round, you can't watch the

1:00:14 > 1:00:18puck. When you are in front of the net and you are a defence man you

1:00:18 > 1:00:25have to take the body, you have to push it there and you can just see,

1:00:25 > 1:00:38he got three and four whacks. He had to be put on. That is too bad.

1:00:41 > 1:00:49And a win disappears ever so slightly out of this building.

1:00:49 > 1:00:55Heiskanen will get the credit for that goal.

1:00:56 > 1:01:00that goal. So, it's back to the grindstone for the Koreans. They

1:01:00 > 1:01:05have to just keep working. They have a chance, once, twice, a hack and

1:01:05 > 1:01:10aid whack and been nearly replied immediately. They are going to keep

1:01:10 > 1:01:21working this zone. They've done so well.

1:01:21 > 1:01:26Pushed out in front again. And now, Finland will get this clear. They

1:01:26 > 1:01:35did really well there. No quit at any point in this Korean team.

1:01:35 > 1:01:40They're going for it all the way. You have got to like this response,

1:01:40 > 1:01:46giving up the power play to go down 4-2. They come right back out, and

1:01:46 > 1:01:55get a chance at the side of the net. A big hit.Quick puck movement, back

1:01:55 > 1:01:59on the stick of the Koreans, and they will move into the zone with

1:01:59 > 1:02:12some speed. Skating forward is

1:02:12 > 1:02:12some speed. Skating forward is.

1:02:13 > 1:02:24He froze and didn't do anything. Good skating from the Finns to get

1:02:24 > 1:02:29in first. Winning position back, players in front of the net, trying

1:02:29 > 1:02:40to squeeze this one. Anywhere will do. Finland will come forward. Drop

1:02:40 > 1:02:52pass. Across the net, and the puck goes out of play.

1:02:52 > 1:02:53Across the net, and the puck goes out of play.

1:02:54 > 1:02:59Finland, thanks to you so Hietanen, what do the Koreans do to work their

1:02:59 > 1:03:03way back in?They have to keep going the same way they have and get into

1:03:03 > 1:03:09the zone.

1:03:16 > 1:03:20The Finns do such a good job of keeping their teams to the outside.

1:03:20 > 1:03:27We have seen instances of breaking through. There is nothing to save it

1:03:27 > 1:03:30for now, you have the crowd behind you and your whole country behind

1:03:30 > 1:03:35you.

1:03:38 > 1:03:45Huge hit. Somehow he managed to ride that. Incredible stuff from told

1:03:45 > 1:03:50Annan, 20 years of age, he will be bound for the National Hockey League

1:03:50 > 1:03:57in the not too distant future. He is a frightening talent.

1:04:00 > 1:04:12A nice pass, but not held onto by Swift. A bit hard handed at times.

1:04:13 > 1:04:19Plant, the goal on his hooking penalty has given that breathing

1:04:19 > 1:04:23space for Finland, who have possession back again. Behind the

1:04:23 > 1:04:34back of the net, they are looking to make a shooting option.

1:04:39 > 1:04:43Looking for something more, though. They needed a tip to make a

1:04:43 > 1:04:46difference. Finland have got the Koreans running all over the place

1:04:46 > 1:05:01right now. This is all Finland. Takes a big deflection.

1:05:03 > 1:05:11Koskiranta. Still Koskiranta. As they try to bring it in, they can

1:05:11 > 1:05:18clear way. Second time of asking, do just that. Eight and a half remain,

1:05:18 > 1:05:23in terms of minutes in this game, as the offside is given here against

1:05:23 > 1:05:32the Koreans. Finland lead 4-2, what a ride this has been.What a

1:05:32 > 1:05:35remarkable game, and this really shouldn't have been this close. It

1:05:35 > 1:05:40should not be within two. This is the fifth seed going against the

1:05:40 > 1:05:4612th seed, looking for a date with Canada in the quarters. That second

1:05:46 > 1:05:50period was one of the most electric periods we have seen in a while.

1:05:50 > 1:05:56Corriere getting the entire crowd on their feet, making believers out of

1:05:56 > 1:06:06everyone -- Korea. Time is running out, and Finland

1:06:06 > 1:06:10have looked much better in this period. For those that had tickets

1:06:10 > 1:06:14and missing this event, they are missing a really good game of

1:06:14 > 1:06:21hockey. Technically, there will be better games, but in terms of

1:06:21 > 1:06:25spirit, fight, desire or stop isn't this what the Olympic Games is

1:06:25 > 1:06:30about. This is a Korean team way down in

1:06:30 > 1:06:37the world rankings going against the fourth ranked Finnish team. And they

1:06:37 > 1:06:43are making a game of it. Fabulous stuff. We all know, if this was a

1:06:43 > 1:06:47Disney movie, what would happen over the course of the next eight minutes

1:06:47 > 1:06:56and ten seconds. This is real life. But sometimes, there are these odd

1:06:56 > 1:07:04moments, where art and real life collide.

1:07:04 > 1:07:10Maybe I am doing a disservice to sports films saying they are as

1:07:10 > 1:07:19artistic as that one goes into the glove of Koskinen.Relying on their

1:07:19 > 1:07:25centre man to win a draw. Get the puck out. Around their own zone more

1:07:25 > 1:07:39often than they would like. Paek, a former NHL player. He has to be

1:07:39 > 1:07:45proud with what he sees today. But you bet he still wants more. This is

1:07:45 > 1:07:50not the end for the Koreans, this is the start for their hockey

1:07:50 > 1:07:53programme. They have been promoted to the top tier, irrespective of

1:07:53 > 1:07:57what happens here, they have a World Championships to go to. They have a

1:07:57 > 1:08:02chance to build and have a programme in place as it is tipped towards

1:08:02 > 1:08:07goal, well saved by Matt Dalton. This has put them on the map. And

1:08:07 > 1:08:10has hopefully inspired the next generation of eight, nine,

1:08:10 > 1:08:14ten-year-olds that want to be international ice occupiers for

1:08:14 > 1:08:19Korea.I am sure there are a load of new fans in Korea will stop they

1:08:19 > 1:08:22want to be just like their new heroes. The Olympic men's hockey

1:08:22 > 1:08:33team. Will they get one more chance?

1:08:33 > 1:08:37That's the question. Will they get one chance they can put away, reduce

1:08:37 > 1:08:43it to one and see what they can come up with in the last few minutes?

1:08:43 > 1:08:48It's what they need to do to break this game down.

1:08:50 > 1:08:57They've taken on all the big guns, really, in this tournament. A bit of

1:08:57 > 1:09:04speed into the zone. Can they finish this one off? Such a good

1:09:04 > 1:09:10opportunity for told

1:09:12 > 1:09:13opportunity for told Annan -- and he didn't take advantage of it. Pushed

1:09:13 > 1:09:26into the zone and taken back by the Finns. Time is ticking. Six and a

1:09:26 > 1:09:30half minutes, potentially, remaining on this Korea Olympic Ice Hockey

1:09:30 > 1:09:36Challenge.

1:09:38 > 1:09:42Finland are hoping they will end it. They may end it now with a chance.

1:09:42 > 1:09:49Dalton! That left catching glove has been electric in this game. He

1:09:49 > 1:09:55plucks that one out of the.Dalton's been simply fabulous here this

1:09:55 > 1:10:01evening, doing everything in his power, 34-35 shots directed his way.

1:10:01 > 1:10:07And you're right, that left hand is getting a work out, the amount of

1:10:07 > 1:10:14times he has had to raise that thing up. He turns aside the goal-scorer

1:10:14 > 1:10:23there. He got the fourth goal for Iceland, Hietanen.

1:10:23 > 1:10:35The face of was won there bike Korea but they will do it again. 11:10 at

1:10:35 > 1:10:43night, this arena is so loud.

1:10:43 > 1:10:49Face-off win by the Finns. Pushed towards the net. That is well

1:10:49 > 1:10:57stocked in the end, and pushed down the line. Trying to use the boards,

1:10:57 > 1:11:03but it's in finish possession. Awkward looking play and this gives

1:11:03 > 1:11:10an opportunity. A pass out in front for the Koreans.

1:11:10 > 1:11:14I think you are going to see two lines on the ice from the Koreans

1:11:14 > 1:11:22the rest of the way. I think we are going to see a little

1:11:22 > 1:11:32bit more, here is Swift. Plante barrels his way forward, but without

1:11:32 > 1:11:37any real opportunity to get in the zone. Finland bring it back with

1:11:37 > 1:11:46ease.

1:11:46 > 1:11:50ease. Lepisto checking his options. That is another good stop by the

1:11:50 > 1:11:57netminder, Dalton.Well set, the winner of this game, place tomorrow

1:11:57 > 1:12:02against Canada, and you can bet that the Canadians are probably the

1:12:02 > 1:12:09happiest team watching this game here. I'm sure a lot of people are

1:12:09 > 1:12:14expecting an easy romp for Finland, get into the third period, extend

1:12:14 > 1:12:18their bench, play four lines. Save lots of reserves for tomorrow. But

1:12:18 > 1:12:24it is going to be all hands on deck for this remaining few moments. It

1:12:24 > 1:12:28is late at night, and amazing that anybody can sleep in this kind of

1:12:28 > 1:12:36atmosphere. Can you imagine if Korea turned it around from here? And the

1:12:36 > 1:12:39child remains asleep. You can imagine in the teenage years, the

1:12:39 > 1:12:44conversations they will have around the table. "You Were there that

1:12:44 > 1:12:49night, you know?" I don't remember anything. Was that

1:12:49 > 1:12:53a Korean or an American had? Maybe it was one of those half and half

1:12:53 > 1:13:08things.Maybe it is for Mike Testa

1:13:10 > 1:13:21thoroughly enjoyable game, this, five minutes and nine seconds to go.

1:13:21 > 1:13:30These players have done Paek and the Korean Federation proud here with

1:13:30 > 1:13:34the way they have played through this tournament. They have shown

1:13:34 > 1:13:39they are not just making up the numbers, which is so important. As

1:13:39 > 1:13:45hosts, when you get the opportunity, and their big aim now is to get

1:13:45 > 1:13:48there by rights and their play within the World Championships and

1:13:48 > 1:13:52group qualifying campaigns. And how amazing would it be for a Korean

1:13:52 > 1:14:01team to make it through to Beijing? Icing is called here. There is Jimmy

1:14:01 > 1:14:09Paek, never going to see him get a sweat on that bench. He is never

1:14:09 > 1:14:16going to shout and scream. He is the antidote to so many. The anxious

1:14:16 > 1:14:25looks are on the Finnish bench with their coach Lauri Marjamaki.

1:14:25 > 1:14:35Deflected shot goes over the top. Pushed all the way round. Using the

1:14:35 > 1:14:40boards well.

1:14:43 > 1:14:48Finland get to it first. Finland have taken the sting out of this

1:14:48 > 1:14:54game beautifully.

1:14:54 > 1:15:10game beautifully. Three assists in this game Tolvanen.

1:15:13 > 1:15:18Testwuide. They break in with speed. Options are out in front. If they

1:15:18 > 1:15:22can force it there. It bobbles through the crease. Korea can hold

1:15:22 > 1:15:29it on the blue line. It is a high chip.

1:15:34 > 1:15:40Played away. Testwuide again. Takes the hit to make the play.Good

1:15:40 > 1:15:46stuff.

1:15:46 > 1:15:51stuff. Looks like he was maybe going to go up and over. Would have been

1:15:51 > 1:15:55the first time we had seen that. Striding up the middle with bait of

1:15:55 > 1:16:00purpose. Finland trying to finish this out. Tipped out in front. Goes

1:16:00 > 1:16:18wide of the target. Osala. Now it goes wide. Finland are

1:16:18 > 1:16:30chipping in and out. Miss play.

1:16:31 > 1:16:38Big stretch for Plante. How much longer before the coach removes his

1:16:38 > 1:16:43netminder? Not long. Here comes Plante.

1:16:43 > 1:16:48Pushes it into the corner. Finland have it. They will send it

1:16:48 > 1:16:55down the ice. The net is empty. But the shot

1:16:55 > 1:16:59misses, bad rebound, that causes everybody to panic. Weird bounce off

1:16:59 > 1:17:06the glass. We are into the final two minutes. And will it be the final

1:17:06 > 1:17:11two minutes of this Korean team's interest in this hockey tournament,

1:17:11 > 1:17:18I wonder? It looks that way. But a goal here and that may be

1:17:18 > 1:17:23throws it up in the air again. Finland have it. Oh, nice move.

1:17:23 > 1:17:33Really really good. Now steadies himself. Shot is blocked.

1:17:33 > 1:17:38himself. Shot is blocked. This is the opportunity maybe for the Finns.

1:17:38 > 1:17:44Deflects wide. Reagan to Swift. Swift dangerous play but they have

1:17:44 > 1:17:49men forward. Testwuide.

1:17:49 > 1:17:53Pushes it behind the net. Lepisto first man there waiting for it.

1:17:53 > 1:17:57Flips it round. Not hell at the blue line. They have

1:17:57 > 1:18:02given it everything they could. They are running out of steam. They need

1:18:02 > 1:18:07two, three, four guys on the puck, they can't get up ice in time. Three

1:18:07 > 1:18:11guys standing at the blue line. Only one on pursuit.

1:18:11 > 1:18:16Rip round the boards again. The Finns have it here. Maybe now they

1:18:16 > 1:18:25will put this game to bed.

1:18:25 > 1:18:28will put this game to bed. Kennel none takes it deep. Finland have

1:18:28 > 1:18:33done so well. Goodness me, that would have been a bad end to this

1:18:33 > 1:18:41one. The end is nigh for Korea. And the Korean ice hockey team,

1:18:41 > 1:18:46Pyeongchang 2018. Finland just playing keep away right

1:18:46 > 1:18:53now. Could be another chance, it is deflected off a stick, a skate. It

1:18:53 > 1:19:05goes in. Manninen will get the credit for it.

1:19:05 > 1:19:10It extinguishes any hopes Korea have of reaching the seemy final, they

1:19:10 > 1:19:14deserve so much credit that. I have given Finland a huge fright and they

1:19:14 > 1:19:20have told the rest of the world, hey, we're here, take us seriously.

1:19:20 > 1:19:24That is what this Olympic Games is all about.

1:19:24 > 1:19:29Look at Young number five. He is exhausted. He can't even move. He

1:19:29 > 1:19:33was out there for the last two-and-a-half minute, he had

1:19:33 > 1:19:38nothing left. You were right Seth, this Korean team can hold their head

1:19:38 > 1:19:44high, to take Finland to an empty net goal, in this qualification

1:19:44 > 1:19:55game, that is something else. The Korean ice hockey adventure is

1:19:55 > 1:19:59over. It's first Olympics for the men and the women, has brought so

1:19:59 > 1:20:04many talking points of, from those historic first goals to the

1:20:04 > 1:20:09opportunities that it has created for the peninsula. But as a purely

1:20:09 > 1:20:13sporting spectacle, this was something special. 3-0 down at one

1:20:13 > 1:20:19point. Finland were in control. Korea fought back to make it 3-2

1:20:19 > 1:20:24before Finland put their foot down in the final period. The empty

1:20:24 > 1:20:30netter at the end, little more than adding fat to the score line. Canada

1:20:30 > 1:20:35up next with the Finns, but the nation has embraced this tournament.

1:20:35 > 1:20:42I think the world of ice hockey has firmly embraced Korea.

1:20:42 > 1:20:47It could have been easy for the Korean team to pack things up when

1:20:47 > 1:20:58they were down 3-0. You had them electrify the nation and make

1:20:58 > 1:21:05everyone believe, even the it was just for a half hour it was

1:21:05 > 1:21:11possible. You can see the respect among these teams in the handshake,

1:21:11 > 1:21:15Finland moves on to Canada. They will be more tired than they thought

1:21:15 > 1:21:21they were going to be.The Finns will play the Adrians in the

1:21:21 > 1:21:24quarterfinal and well I, -- the Canadians in the quarterfinal. We

1:21:24 > 1:21:28will have more from the men's team in a moment. One women's team to

1:21:28 > 1:21:32tell you about it. Featured Korea.

1:21:32 > 1:21:35in a moment. One women's team to tell you about it. Featured Korea.

1:21:35 > 1:21:39Sip the pan-Korean team. They have caused a real stir not least because

1:21:39 > 1:21:41of the nature of that unification, they haven't played particularly

1:21:41 > 1:21:45well, they have lost all four matches until the last one today.

1:21:45 > 1:21:50They scored one goal but it didn't matter. They were playing Sweden,

1:21:50 > 1:21:53foer the seventh and eighth place. It was the wooden spoon, would this

1:21:53 > 1:21:58be the last time we would see the history making team on ice? Who

1:21:58 > 1:22:08know, they did lose 6-1, there was a sign off goal.

1:22:08 > 1:22:15sign off goal. Goal. The two Koreas still technically at war. 20,000

1:22:15 > 1:22:21fans have watched their matches and their Canadian coach who has had to

1:22:21 > 1:22:25bond two squads together, with the South Korean President and the North

1:22:25 > 1:22:30Korean President's sister there to see them. They said the players have

1:22:30 > 1:22:33been incredible and it was a testament, there she is to the

1:22:33 > 1:22:36bonding power of sport. I never imagined she said the team would

1:22:36 > 1:22:40connect this well. After the last practise yesterday we had eight

1:22:40 > 1:22:44players from the north and five of our team and they were hugging and

1:22:44 > 1:22:47taking pictures together. Sport is breaking down the barrier. It would

1:22:47 > 1:22:54be good to think it was. We had ping-pong diplomacy in the

1:22:54 > 1:22:58'70s, we might have big stick diplomacy or puck diplomacy which is

1:22:58 > 1:23:02problematic on a number of levels. Back to the men's competition we go

1:23:02 > 1:23:08then, and it is the USA who are traditionally strong but only on

1:23:08 > 1:23:14North American ice. The last time they won a medal grey the north

1:23:14 > 1:23:18American continent was in the 72 games in Japan and that was a

1:23:18 > 1:23:23silver, they are a long away from home and a away off a medal. They

1:23:23 > 1:23:28are up against Slovakia for a place in the quarters.

1:23:31 > 1:23:37Intercepting that puck on the break. Oh. Now a chance down the middle.

1:23:37 > 1:23:44Goes wide. Second opportunity. Following up,

1:23:44 > 1:23:49third of the tournament for him. And the pressure from the Americans

1:23:49 > 1:23:54to start the second session has seen them take the lead in this game.

1:23:54 > 1:23:58This is an elimination game and you need the take your goals when you

1:23:58 > 1:24:07can.What an effort from Terry. The goal tender lost his stick there.

1:24:07 > 1:24:12It could be game over at the end of this next five minute period if the

1:24:12 > 1:24:18US play it well. Quick shot, quick goal.

1:24:18 > 1:24:27Wow! The US lead by two goals to nil. Are they now on course for a

1:24:27 > 1:24:32place in the quarterfinals? This was the only reason that James is on

1:24:32 > 1:24:37this team right now. All he does is play on the powerplays. For that one

1:24:37 > 1:24:43time shot, there, one of the finest in the game and terrific job from

1:24:43 > 1:24:48Terry, coming across the top. Forcing the two Slovakian forwards

1:24:48 > 1:24:56to respect him.Looking for a third, USA and they have done it. Terry

1:24:56 > 1:25:02with another great play,

1:25:03 > 1:25:06with another great play, and he picked up another player.Watch the

1:25:06 > 1:25:15work from Terry here. Wins the battle behind the net.

1:25:15 > 1:25:18battle behind the net. He recognises Archibollo. Into the high spot. On

1:25:18 > 1:25:25and off his stick in a second. What a play from Terry.

1:25:25 > 1:25:29US clogging up the middle. Sacked so low in the zone. Another one time

1:25:29 > 1:25:35and they score. And the deficit cut to two goals. And the Slovakians are

1:25:35 > 1:25:43keeping on fighting.Look at this rocket. Looked like the net minder

1:25:43 > 1:25:50may have got a piece of it but not enough.

1:25:50 > 1:25:58He did well. A a wonderful finish. A fourth for the USA. Great puck

1:25:58 > 1:26:02movement, out in front. The Americans have played a perfect

1:26:02 > 1:26:09game.They have kept Slovakian forwards away from danger and what a

1:26:09 > 1:26:17play here. As O'Neill drops it off to Liddle. We talk about the quick

1:26:17 > 1:26:22puck movement, up the Americans, their speed, letting the puck do the

1:26:22 > 1:26:27work, they have done that in spades. Spades.

1:26:32 > 1:26:39Another goal for the Americans, the netminder beaten clean, and it is

1:26:39 > 1:26:46the superstar of this American team Donnato will top and tail it. He

1:26:46 > 1:26:52scored the first and he will enjoy the adulation, he is having a superb

1:26:52 > 1:26:56tournament now. That is one confident player right there. Coming

1:26:56 > 1:27:05down on the strong side. Head up, short side rocket.

1:27:06 > 1:27:10And the US fully deserve this. Really impressive forever the

1:27:10 > 1:27:17youngsters. And have been led once again by

1:27:17 > 1:27:22Donnato and team USA are going to the quarterfinals of this men's

1:27:22 > 1:27:26competition and now they have done it in some style.

1:27:26 > 1:27:30competition and now they have done it in some style.

1:27:30 > 1:27:35They will play the 1998 cheques who won the gold medal 20 years ago.

1:27:35 > 1:27:41Only a quarter of hour before Norway took to the ice against Slovenia, a

1:27:41 > 1:27:46new story broke of the third positive test in the games and it

1:27:46 > 1:27:50was for one of their player, a 29, tested positive for a drug which can

1:27:50 > 1:27:56be taken for asthma because it opens up the airway, now he accepted that

1:27:56 > 1:28:02violation immediately, he didn't wait for the B sample and will leave

1:28:02 > 1:28:06within 24 hours, how he has been one of the key men for Slovenia, he

1:28:06 > 1:28:11scored the winner the other night. His team will now have to face this

1:28:11 > 1:28:14important match without him, and remember quarterfinal place up for

1:28:14 > 1:28:17grabs against Norway. Now.

1:28:17 > 1:28:18remember quarterfinal place up for grabs against Norway. Now.

1:28:18 > 1:28:24Power play time for the Slovenians. Goes across the zone and that is

1:28:24 > 1:28:31over the top. Another shot on the goal.

1:28:31 > 1:28:38Or is it? It is. Took some time for the referee to recognise that.

1:28:38 > 1:28:4528 seconds of the power play elapse. And Sloviansk that from the lead.

1:28:45 > 1:28:58This powered past the net mind e you can see it get hung up in the net.

1:28:58 > 1:29:07No doubt about it the leader for Norway, that is the Captain. Norway

1:29:07 > 1:29:14score! Score! Touched home, Norway's hard work at the beginning of this

1:29:14 > 1:29:18period has them back on level terms. And now this game is up in the air,

1:29:18 > 1:29:24a place in the quarterfinals remains very much at stake. What a pass back

1:29:24 > 1:29:33door.Way too nonchalant, the Slovenian defender, next goal wins.

1:29:33 > 1:29:40We are going to overtime, 60 minutes can't split these two. That was a

1:29:40 > 1:29:45wrecking ball play. Lost possession. Still, can he finish in style can

1:29:45 > 1:29:51they force it over the line? Where is it? Could be a chance, lots of

1:29:51 > 1:29:57bodies and they score. Norway have won it in overtime. The shock coming

1:29:57 > 1:30:03from high up in the zone.

1:30:05 > 1:30:12Late on the play. He fires and Norway are heading to the

1:30:12 > 1:30:17quarterfinals for the very first time in their history.

1:30:21 > 1:30:27STUDIO: Slovenia will play the Olympic Athletes from Russia, and

1:30:27 > 1:30:32one more Place to be decided between the Swiss men and the Germans. The

1:30:32 > 1:30:36Germans didn't qualify with 18th Sochi, so have made good progress to

1:30:36 > 1:30:42get this far. Watch out for the Swiss goalkeeper, one of the best in

1:30:42 > 1:30:49the tournament. He is a former NHL players with the Anaheim ducks.

1:30:57 > 1:31:05COMMENTATOR: Dramatic start to the match. Confirmation that... One-time

1:31:05 > 1:31:11slapshot and a goal.

1:31:11 > 1:31:16slapshot and a goal. It is Germany. Eventually, the puck found its way

1:31:16 > 1:31:25across to the left-hand side, Hiller couldn't keep it down. 1-0 to

1:31:25 > 1:31:33Germany. Really good save from the one-timer. Almost a second chance

1:31:33 > 1:31:42but forced into the corner. Loose in front.

1:31:45 > 1:31:56front. It fell for Suter.Scrambling the defence of the Germans and this

1:31:56 > 1:32:02is a good battle, a game getting to the net crasher. And they were

1:32:02 > 1:32:14rewarded.The Swiss head coach, 42 years of age, he had a spell it in

1:32:14 > 1:32:24the NHL, played 27 games for Arizona. Germany have it, ripped in

1:32:24 > 1:32:33and finished, the puck went loose in front and Seidenberg sends jemmy

1:32:33 > 1:32:41through to the quarterfinals of the limpet games. Yannic Seidenberg was

1:32:41 > 1:32:46quickest. It rebound did offer Hiller, and Yannic Seidenberg

1:32:46 > 1:32:52wrapped it home and Germany win 2-1 with a goal early in overtime. It is

1:32:52 > 1:32:59Germany who will go through to face Sweden in the quarterfinals. If you

1:32:59 > 1:33:06get your rebound is, that's a big goal. The Swiss were probably slight

1:33:06 > 1:33:11favourites heading into the game. A mild upset, but the Germans are

1:33:11 > 1:33:17advancing and moving on. Unfortunately, it means the Swiss

1:33:17 > 1:33:20are heading home. It was a cagey affair all night.

1:33:24 > 1:33:28Germany will now face Sweden in the men's quarterfinal, and that is

1:33:28 > 1:33:32history for them today. We are hanging up the padding and sweaty

1:33:32 > 1:33:35ice hockey kit, if you have ever been in an Ice Hockey Challenge in

1:33:35 > 1:33:38room you will know where I am coming from, and we are instead changing

1:33:38 > 1:33:45into outfits that are altogether more elegant.

1:33:45 > 1:33:49Yes, the rough and tumble is over for today, it is strictly about

1:33:49 > 1:33:58artistry on the ice as we enjoy the concluding free dance. The

1:33:58 > 1:34:02semifinals in sight for Kyle Smith and the British men, who are finding

1:34:02 > 1:34:06their group, two matches to come, their first against Norway. Wind

1:34:06 > 1:34:10them and they are in with a shout. It is the same for Eve Muirhead and

1:34:10 > 1:34:14the British women. They are up against the Japanese in their

1:34:14 > 1:34:17concluding round-robin match. It is about Elise again. Victor skate in

1:34:17 > 1:34:23her ninth Olympic event of her career, 1000 metres.

1:34:23 > 1:34:28From the intensity of the ice rink, we pop outside and dropped in on the

1:34:28 > 1:34:34women's ski half pipe final. But because it is the big day in ice

1:34:34 > 1:34:39dance, we have reunited Torvill and Dean, they have glided in here.

1:34:39 > 1:34:48There they go, look at that. 34 years. You don't have...We were

1:34:48 > 1:34:54only one when we did it.You were very particular about things going

1:34:54 > 1:35:01on the ice.Everybody has little things they do and I will call them

1:35:01 > 1:35:05repetition, we had to do it every time in the same way.A routine. My

1:35:05 > 1:35:15guards were on the left, Jayne 's was on the right. It is just

1:35:15 > 1:35:22repetition.One time, we came from a show and they had been moved. We

1:35:22 > 1:35:27tripped or something. From then on it had to be.So your shoes neatly

1:35:27 > 1:35:32placed together at the door before you came in?Everything is perfectly

1:35:32 > 1:35:36lined up.What was the dynamic between the two of you on a day like

1:35:36 > 1:35:42today going into an Olympic final? Who was the calming influence?I

1:35:42 > 1:35:48think I was always the Karma one, anyway. And I still am. But we

1:35:48 > 1:35:55didn't really talk that much, to be honest. We knew what we had to do,

1:35:55 > 1:35:59and there were no more words left. We trained up to that point, there

1:35:59 > 1:36:04was a little look. We were like caged lions at that point, the

1:36:04 > 1:36:11pacing backwards and forwards, prepping, ready to get ready. You

1:36:11 > 1:36:15have done these routines hundreds of times before you go out there,

1:36:15 > 1:36:18Bolero in particular. Were you twitchy, because I remember the

1:36:18 > 1:36:23vivid warm up. Everybody else was together, touchy and freely, and you

1:36:23 > 1:36:26went your separate ways, why did you do that?We started to do that

1:36:26 > 1:36:32because, in the warm up, it got so competitive to the sometimes people

1:36:32 > 1:36:39would have crashes.The Russian skaters never gave way.It was more

1:36:39 > 1:36:44intimidation tactics. So we thought, we don't want to be involved in

1:36:44 > 1:36:47that. We didn't need to skate together at that point, because we

1:36:47 > 1:36:52knew what we had to do. We had done the training sessions, and we used

1:36:52 > 1:36:56that time to warm up and relax, get into the eyes.It is conditioning

1:36:56 > 1:37:00yourself, rather than going through the programme. By that time, you

1:37:00 > 1:37:04have done it so many times, so it is being confident enough to say you

1:37:04 > 1:37:08are ready, going out and feeling the ice, and when the music goes, we do

1:37:08 > 1:37:13it.Will it unknown of other competitors to see you so lose?

1:37:13 > 1:37:17People started talking about it. It was never intended for that reason.

1:37:17 > 1:37:22I guess it did start people thinking, why are they doing that?

1:37:22 > 1:37:26OK.When we were training and had practices, we did everything from

1:37:26 > 1:37:32end to end.The whole run-through. No other competitors would do that,

1:37:32 > 1:37:39they did part of it. It was a psychological bit of skating.Jayne,

1:37:39 > 1:37:43when Chris was here last week, we showed your Bolero routine from

1:37:43 > 1:37:491984, but for the time out today, we have decided to show you something

1:37:49 > 1:37:53from 1994, because you faced the music and dance to again to bronze

1:37:53 > 1:37:57medal. At the gala, you got the Bolero costumes out once again to

1:37:57 > 1:38:00prove to everybody that you definitely still had it. We already

1:38:00 > 1:38:05knew you did and you did it again. Here is our time out once again,

1:38:05 > 1:38:11Bolero a decade on.

1:42:43 > 1:42:48There you go, 1994. One lovely thing about that was all the crowd stood

1:42:48 > 1:42:51up with home-made sixes, do you remember that?

1:42:51 > 1:42:54up with home-made sixes, do you remember that?

1:42:54 > 1:42:57It was very charming, but it was still remembered. It is all about

1:42:57 > 1:43:04the dancers today, we are seeing who will follow in your skate tracks.

1:43:04 > 1:43:09Jayne, you were with us yesterday to review the short dance, but Chris, a

1:43:09 > 1:43:12hugely interesting battle between the Canadians and French, with whom

1:43:12 > 1:43:19you have been working. Horrible luck with the costume. The costume

1:43:19 > 1:43:22malfunction, obviously, affected them and what she was trying to do

1:43:22 > 1:43:28at certain points to cover her modesty. I think they did incredibly

1:43:28 > 1:43:31well to get through it, but it clearly affected the performance.

1:43:31 > 1:43:38Not much as a partner, a male partner, that you can do, why could

1:43:38 > 1:43:42they not stop? They could not stop, because if they did, they would have

1:43:42 > 1:43:47lost three points. They would have had a 3-point deduction right away.

1:43:47 > 1:43:50They would know that and would know that they would have lost any point

1:43:50 > 1:43:58of a gold.OK. Is it going to shape costume choices for a generation or?

1:43:58 > 1:44:06Safety clasps will be improved, that's for sure.We saw Nick and

1:44:06 > 1:44:09Penny do rumba musics and justice, how much did you admire the routine

1:44:09 > 1:44:13from them?It was great. I choreographed it for them, they

1:44:13 > 1:44:16said, we have got the music and we loved the music from 1994, and we

1:44:16 > 1:44:21would love to use a variation of it. I said, absolutely. They said, would

1:44:21 > 1:44:27you work with us on a? It was a privilege to work with them. I have

1:44:27 > 1:44:32admired them from afar. They are so enthusiastic, and they give a lot

1:44:32 > 1:44:36back. They don't stand and wait for information, if you give them

1:44:36 > 1:44:41inspiration, they run with it. It is great. In the top ten into the free

1:44:41 > 1:44:45dance, Jayne, with less than two points separating the Canadians and

1:44:45 > 1:44:50the French, how much life is left in this as a contest that they? You

1:44:50 > 1:44:56have your top two and the rest of them stop having said that, within

1:44:56 > 1:45:03that top ten, there are some really high standards of skating. The

1:45:03 > 1:45:06talent is amazing, and where dance has gone too now and what they

1:45:06 > 1:45:13achieved.For the French pair, their first Olympic Games, how much value

1:45:13 > 1:45:19from Canada would you place on experience? They have won a gold and

1:45:19 > 1:45:23a silver.Hugely experienced, and they have been together from such a

1:45:23 > 1:45:28young age. They know each other so well. They know how they react under

1:45:28 > 1:45:32pressure, they know what they need to do. For the French, their first

1:45:32 > 1:45:35Olympics, they have been world champions, so they want to stay at

1:45:35 > 1:45:40the top and they want to win that Olympic gold. It is neck and neck,

1:45:40 > 1:45:46and they train together. In Canada, they are both coached by the same

1:45:46 > 1:45:49coaches, so they know what each other are capable of, and they know

1:45:49 > 1:45:53on the night, they both can deliver. Jayne, would you have done that?

1:45:53 > 1:45:57Could you train with great Bible 's day in, day out?It is an

1:45:57 > 1:46:02interesting one. You feel like you shouldn't meet until you are

1:46:02 > 1:46:07competing together. But you are going back to the French's first

1:46:07 > 1:46:11Olympics, is World Champion some your first Olympics, whatever level,

1:46:11 > 1:46:15it is something completely different. The pressure is different

1:46:15 > 1:46:22as well. To come second, even to get the silver medal is such an amazing

1:46:22 > 1:46:28thing to achieve.Let's have a quick look at how things stood going into

1:46:28 > 1:46:29this programme.

1:46:29 > 1:46:32look at how things stood going into this programme. The free dance will

1:46:32 > 1:46:35decide the medals, less than two points separate the Canadians and

1:46:35 > 1:46:40the French.

1:46:45 > 1:46:55No glitter ball, all watched by Robin Cousins. And. This is the ice

1:46:55 > 1:47:00dance free dance, and we will see gold, silver, bronze handed out in

1:47:00 > 1:47:02this final day of the Olympic competition.

1:47:10 > 1:47:16The Canadian pair are a point ahead of Nick and Penny. They are

1:47:16 > 1:47:22qualifying in tenth. Piper and Paul in ninth. The pressure is on James

1:47:22 > 1:47:28Bond and his Bond girl.

1:48:01 > 1:48:10Wonderful control. Curved lift.

1:50:51 > 1:50:56Beautiful through the rotational lift. The lovely quality and

1:50:56 > 1:51:07softness in Paul and Piper.

1:51:18 > 1:51:23Such a striking combination out on the ice and we enjoyed their

1:51:23 > 1:51:28inventive contemporary short dance yesterday, this old school Bond

1:51:28 > 1:51:34movie glamour and action. They are thrilled with it. Smouldered

1:51:34 > 1:51:40throughout.

1:51:40 > 1:51:45If I have one tiny niggle the music was so dramatic and fast. I wanted

1:51:45 > 1:51:51them to have a bit more attack, but it is so smooth and lovely quality

1:51:51 > 1:51:56within the elements. Level two on the twizzles.

1:51:56 > 1:52:03107.31. That is a big season's best for them, improving by five points

1:52:03 > 1:52:07on they previous mark and they leap up to the top of the leaderboard and

1:52:07 > 1:52:13that really has heaped the pressure on Nick and Penny who skate next.

1:52:13 > 1:52:16So here we go, just over four minutes and this Olympic journey

1:52:16 > 1:52:22will be over for Nick and Penny from a shattered kneecap through 20 month

1:52:22 > 1:52:25of edespair, recovery to today. Tenth place at the moment. They are

1:52:25 > 1:52:34looking to push up the leaderboard here and they need to be perfect.

1:55:56 > 1:56:12And that was the lift. How is it looking Robin? So far, so good.

1:56:42 > 1:56:47The ultimate story of grit and determination has happy ending out

1:56:47 > 1:56:53on the ice for now at least. It may not be a medal but this means nor

1:56:53 > 1:56:59them than precious metal. Just being back out there skating together and

1:56:59 > 1:57:05at an Olympics. Robin, what can you see?I am seeing, diagonal sequence

1:57:05 > 1:57:12level four. Combination spin, synchronised twizzle, all four,

1:57:12 > 1:57:19circular step level three. Curve lift level four. We are seeing

1:57:19 > 1:57:24positive GOEs across the board. Penny just a slight wobble on the

1:57:24 > 1:57:31second turn of the twizzle. Caught back up.101.96. It keeps them

1:57:31 > 1:57:34behind the Canadian, they are in third place at the moment. They are

1:57:34 > 1:57:38desperate to finish the top ten, the bad news as far as the British are

1:57:38 > 1:57:46concerned is that there is a bit

1:57:46 > 1:57:49concerned is that there is a bit of a gap, a upup. Six points the

1:57:49 > 1:57:53difference so it looks like Nick and Penny will finish just outside the

1:57:53 > 1:58:03top ten.

2:02:02 > 2:02:07Powerful stuff from Andrew and Caitlin, as they tried to chase down

2:02:07 > 2:02:11their countrymen in first position. They are very, very pleased with the

2:02:11 > 2:02:17performance. The Canadians and the US have such depth of talent in

2:02:17 > 2:02:23their squads.Andrew was a little bit lucky on that third resort, to

2:02:23 > 2:02:28incorporate the exit. Just falling off is slightly. They are below

2:02:28 > 2:02:34their team-mates from a technical element score, but they are ahead in

2:02:34 > 2:02:42the component scores. It is going to be very tight in the free dance. It

2:02:42 > 2:02:47is enough. 107.6 to five. We have new leaders. That is enough to push

2:02:47 > 2:03:02them above Piper Guinness and Paul.

2:03:27 > 2:03:34Follow the storytelling. She is blind through the whole first part,

2:03:34 > 2:03:37which is why she will never look at her partner.

2:03:49 > 2:03:58Very nicely through the Twizell turns.

2:05:48 > 2:05:51Site is restored.

2:05:58 > 2:05:59Her site is restored.

2:07:24 > 2:07:29Living the story out there.

2:07:30 > 2:07:37They are a very tall couple. She manages to keep the elegance in

2:07:37 > 2:07:41lifts and some not so pretty positions. But she makes them work.

2:07:41 > 2:07:54Beautiful. Great line. Ankles crossed just a little bit tighter.

2:07:54 > 2:07:59111.45 for Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev. They are top of the

2:07:59 > 2:08:10leaderboard for now. Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte a. 2014 world

2:08:10 > 2:08:12champions from Italy.

2:09:04 > 2:09:10Luca did very well to recover on the second and third sets of twizzles.

2:09:10 > 2:09:13Slightly off on the first one, but they will get the credit for the

2:09:13 > 2:09:15level.

2:12:20 > 2:12:23Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte are just one point behind the bronze

2:12:23 > 2:12:29medal position. This was their fight for a first Olympic medal. Have they

2:12:29 > 2:12:37done enough to enter the fray? They have had a one point deduction

2:12:37 > 2:12:40because the third element, the straight-line lift, exceeded the

2:12:40 > 2:12:45duration that it is allowed to be in the air. That is a point you do not

2:12:45 > 2:12:52want to be giving away.It leaves them in second. They have slipped a

2:12:52 > 2:12:56position. Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev topped standings for

2:12:56 > 2:13:00now.

2:13:00 > 2:13:04These two very much in the battle, particularly for the bronze medal

2:13:04 > 2:13:09position. Who knows, they could go even better. But there are just two

2:13:09 > 2:13:20one hundredths of a point between Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani.

2:13:23 > 2:13:34The rivalry is heating up.

2:13:40 > 2:13:46Maia and Alex are hoping that Pyeongchang 2018 is there paradise.

2:15:18 > 2:15:23Very smooth, through the steps sequence and into the straight-line

2:15:23 > 2:15:29lift.

2:16:07 > 2:16:15Perfection through the twizzles. They are so precise through their

2:16:15 > 2:16:20feet.

2:17:37 > 2:17:43It is signature Shibutanis, clean and precise. The performance of the

2:17:43 > 2:17:46game for them. They are already going home with a bronze medal in

2:17:46 > 2:17:50the back from the team event and that looks like a medal winning

2:17:50 > 2:17:56performance to me.That is the best I have seen them, they are so

2:17:56 > 2:18:00precise technically always, consistent, consistent, consistent.

2:18:00 > 2:18:05But sometimes it is lacking the joy or emotion and you could see

2:18:05 > 2:18:09individually they were both loving that moment being on the ice and

2:18:09 > 2:18:13that's what I need to see. That's what I haven't had from them that

2:18:13 > 2:18:23often. It's always been clinical for me.We have new leaders, just as we

2:18:23 > 2:18:32expected, and that will pile the pressure on. But Maia and Alex

2:18:32 > 2:18:37Shibutani have really gone for it here. Silver medal position at the

2:18:37 > 2:18:42moment for the two times world champions, Gabriella Papadakis and

2:18:42 > 2:18:49Guillaume Cizeron the reigning European champions, and they are

2:18:49 > 2:18:54less than two points behind Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who lead the

2:18:54 > 2:18:59way. That wardrobe malfunction, her dress falling off during the

2:18:59 > 2:19:01performance yesterday, really knocked them but still less than one

2:19:01 > 2:19:10point in it.

2:23:09 > 2:23:10APPLAUSE

2:23:10 > 2:23:16APPLAUSE.

2:23:16 > 2:23:20It is silky and smooth, sublime from the off. This was billed as a battle

2:23:20 > 2:23:27for the gold between them and their training partners Tessa Virtue and

2:23:27 > 2:23:32score Moir. Beat that.It is exquisite to watch them skate

2:23:32 > 2:23:39because individually strong, good, solid skaters. Together it is

2:23:39 > 2:23:42special and that's what happens. The music will start and then you will

2:23:42 > 2:23:48see and it is the detail for me. Even the way the fingers intertwined

2:23:48 > 2:23:53in the opening move. It just draws you win and commands your attention.

2:23:53 > 2:23:58Some musical and they feel every moment that they are together. There

2:23:58 > 2:24:03is that connection.

2:24:07 > 2:24:15is that connection.A new season 's best, a new world record.

2:24:15 > 2:24:20best, a new world record. 123.35, and it's going to be a very big ask

2:24:20 > 2:24:25now for Tessa Virtue and score Moir to claim their second Olympic title.

2:24:25 > 2:24:31Tessa and

2:24:31 > 2:24:36Tessa and Scott desperately trying to save their gold medal chances.

2:24:36 > 2:24:41But Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue currently sit in the bronze

2:24:41 > 2:24:47medal position, but they saw that performance from Maia and Alex

2:24:47 > 2:24:50Shibutani and they will need to be brilliant here if they want to go

2:24:50 > 2:24:56home in the medals.

2:29:03 > 2:29:05APPLAUSE

2:29:05 > 2:29:11APPLAUSE. It was fabulous and dramatic but

2:29:11 > 2:29:16putting your hands down on the price makes it an instant 1-point

2:29:16 > 2:29:20reduction because it was considered before and I'd written a note here

2:29:20 > 2:29:24that there is never anything tentative about these two when they

2:29:24 > 2:29:30hit the ice. It is gangbusters of equality and they wanted to make

2:29:30 > 2:29:34that happen right there. There was no room for error at all in that

2:29:34 > 2:29:40programme if they wanted to beat Maia and Alex Shibutani. Also team

2:29:40 > 2:29:52USA onto the podium but that is going to be a problem. It is 109.94

2:29:52 > 2:29:58so they slot into third place then, with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir yet

2:29:58 > 2:30:04to skate so it is that heartbreaking, agonising fourth

2:30:04 > 2:30:10position then for Madison and Zachary.

2:30:12 > 2:30:18Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the world champions, the 2010 Olympic

2:30:18 > 2:30:21champions, in the gold medal position coming into the free dance.

2:30:21 > 2:30:25But they are going to be extraordinary if they want to win

2:30:25 > 2:30:28this gold medal. They are going to need to beat the new world record,

2:30:28 > 2:30:37laid down by Gabriella

2:30:37 > 2:30:46laid down by Gabriella Papadakis and Culane Cizeron, just two dances ago.

2:34:42 > 2:34:46It is brilliant, but is it enough for Olympic gold for the world

2:34:46 > 2:34:55champions from Canada?Well, they wanted to deliver and they certainly

2:34:55 > 2:35:02did. I am looking at the screens, trying to do the maths. It is tight

2:35:02 > 2:35:19at the top. Goodness me.They know they could not do any more.

2:35:19 > 2:35:22Virtue and Moir knew they had to give everything, they could not

2:35:22 > 2:35:27leave anything on the ice.And they didn't, they absolutely smashed it.

2:35:27 > 2:35:33They've done it! 122.40! The comeback kid is complete for Tessa

2:35:33 > 2:35:37Virtue and Scott Moir

2:35:37 > 2:35:42comeback kid is complete for Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. They took two

2:35:42 > 2:35:45years away from competition and returned to win World Championship

2:35:45 > 2:35:53gold. Now it is the Olympic gold as well.Absolutely thrilling.

2:35:53 > 2:36:00Phenomenal. Amazing champions, amazing performers. Yes, very

2:36:00 > 2:36:04different to Papadakis and Cizeron. The silver medal is deserved, but

2:36:04 > 2:36:12these two are supreme.I don't think we could have skated any better.

2:36:12 > 2:36:16With the pressure mounting, we felt the weight of the world as we took

2:36:16 > 2:36:20to the ice. We looked at each other and said, let's skate for us. We

2:36:20 > 2:36:23deserve this, we are ready and we love this programme, so let's please

2:36:23 > 2:36:28do it how we are able to.You went in knowing that you needed a massive

2:36:28 > 2:36:34performance to beat a world-record score?We train with them, so we

2:36:34 > 2:36:37knew what to expect. We didn't know they have posted a world-record, but

2:36:37 > 2:36:43we could have bet the house on it that they would. We had to come out

2:36:43 > 2:36:49hungry and have our skate. That is what we are most proud of. A lot of

2:36:49 > 2:36:52things can go different ways in sport. We stuck to our plan and we

2:36:52 > 2:36:56are proud to come out of the competition with a gold medal.I am

2:36:56 > 2:36:59so happy to be back, I really enjoyed myself out there. The

2:36:59 > 2:37:03audience are great, it felt like a great skate. I soaked up the moment

2:37:03 > 2:37:09and I loved it, and I am so happy to be back. The score has put a damper

2:37:09 > 2:37:18on the whole experience. I felt like we gave it everything. The school is

2:37:18 > 2:37:22disappointing, because that is not what we came here to do.Sometimes

2:37:22 > 2:37:24the score can dampen your feeling about the performance, I tried to

2:37:24 > 2:37:31think about how we felt after we finished. We both thought that we

2:37:31 > 2:37:34had done a great job and performed as well as we wanted to. We are

2:37:34 > 2:37:41going to try to remember that, I think.

2:37:41 > 2:37:4411th place finish, but no doubt

2:37:44 > 2:37:4711th place finish, but no doubt about the winners, by less than a

2:37:47 > 2:37:50point. The pressure they wonder to produce a faultless routine, how

2:37:50 > 2:37:53much did you admire the way they went about their business today?

2:37:53 > 2:38:00Amazing. He said they trained with them, so they know they are capable

2:38:00 > 2:38:04of doing an amazing routine. For them to come out at the end of

2:38:04 > 2:38:11everybody and do that performance, it was magnificent. It means that

2:38:11 > 2:38:16they now have five medals, three gold and two Silver, they are the

2:38:16 > 2:38:19most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history. When you think

2:38:19 > 2:38:22about it, that is partly due to the fact that the team events have come

2:38:22 > 2:38:28in. When you think about it, Robin Cousins and you, we could have found

2:38:28 > 2:38:34some pairs!Yes, where was the team event in the 80s!We thought the

2:38:34 > 2:38:37short dance and the free dance should have medals as well. What was

2:38:37 > 2:38:40your impression of the routine? Completely different from the style

2:38:40 > 2:38:44we saw from the French, they really put the squeeze on the Canadians?

2:38:44 > 2:38:49The French skated beautifully. Just so easy to watch. The Canadians,

2:38:49 > 2:38:53when they came out, as Chris said, they had lots of pressure and they

2:38:53 > 2:38:56knew that they had to skate a team performance.

2:39:01 > 2:39:08Between the two Makarov then, Scott and Tessa are dramatic, and the

2:39:08 > 2:39:15French, they present themselves, as you said, liquid, fluid, so easy.

2:39:15 > 2:39:19Something special. As Robin said, when they are out there, when they

2:39:19 > 2:39:21are skating perfectly together, something else takes over. You feel

2:39:21 > 2:39:25like you are watching something very special. They actually won the free

2:39:25 > 2:39:30dance.Indeed, we were talking about closeness on the ice, which mirrors

2:39:30 > 2:39:35the way you skated. Jayne

2:39:35 > 2:39:36closeness on the ice, which mirrors the way you skated. Jayne, you spoke

2:39:36 > 2:39:40about having deep edges when you skate, what do you mean? What we see

2:39:40 > 2:39:45with the French is that we see them get speed from seemingly nowhere.

2:39:45 > 2:39:49That is their technical really deep knee bends, strong edges. That is

2:39:49 > 2:39:52what makes them look so fluid.

2:39:55 > 2:40:00They are so close together, and it makes it look special as well.Had

2:40:00 > 2:40:07it not been for that faulty button, could it have been French?Maybe it

2:40:07 > 2:40:10did come down to a clasp on the dress that caused them to become

2:40:10 > 2:40:15distracted during the short dance. But that doesn't matter now. It is

2:40:15 > 2:40:18the final result, they have to put it behind them and move forward.

2:40:18 > 2:40:24Don't take anything away from them. They are magnificent. What now? Both

2:40:24 > 2:40:29for the Canadians and for the French? Do you think that Scott and

2:40:29 > 2:40:33Tessa will continue?I don't know if they want to make even more history

2:40:33 > 2:40:37by going for a third Olympic gold. They have done amazingly well with

2:40:37 > 2:40:41what they have achieved.I have a feeling they might not. So difficult

2:40:41 > 2:40:47to maintain that standard, through their careers. For sure, the French

2:40:47 > 2:40:51will continue to the next Olympics in Beijing and they will have a lot

2:40:51 > 2:40:54to... You know, they will want to prove themselves. They have to stay

2:40:54 > 2:40:57at the top of their game for the next four years to be present at

2:40:57 > 2:41:04Beijing.You were in Lake Placid, you had that experience at the first

2:41:04 > 2:41:08Olympics. To come away with silver, knowing that they could be the top

2:41:08 > 2:41:12dogs in four years, wonderful? They are probably slightly disappointed

2:41:12 > 2:41:16at this time. But when they think back and people will be talking to

2:41:16 > 2:41:19them, saying, look what you have done, the first Olympics, you could

2:41:19 > 2:41:23have easily have had gold, but you got silver and that is not bad.We

2:41:23 > 2:41:27might be talking about the new generation, not just the French.

2:41:27 > 2:41:33Also some very good American pairs. The Shibutanis, upgrading their

2:41:33 > 2:41:38fourth place. Do you think this was the right way around? We saw Madison

2:41:38 > 2:41:42Hubbell and Zach Donohoe give them a good run for their money, but this

2:41:42 > 2:41:46was the bronze medal winning team?

2:41:46 > 2:41:51This is the best performance I have seen of theirs all season. They have

2:41:51 > 2:41:55a reputation for being smooth, but not going beyond a certain level,

2:41:55 > 2:41:59not giving heart and the motion. But on this performance they gave more

2:41:59 > 2:42:03than I have ever seen. They deservedly got the bronze medal.

2:42:03 > 2:42:09Zach and Madison made that mistake, that is how critical it is. You make

2:42:09 > 2:42:13the slightest mistake and pay for it.Just like you said they had done

2:42:13 > 2:42:17at the World Championships as well. It must be really hard to take?Yes,

2:42:17 > 2:42:26it is not the first time he stumbled. We shall see!

2:42:26 > 2:42:30Penny and Nick, from Great Britain's perspective, the achievement of

2:42:30 > 2:42:34being there, how much can you admire the way that they skated?I thought

2:42:34 > 2:42:37they skated really well. I was surprised to see them dropping a

2:42:37 > 2:42:43place, given that performance. I thought in the short dance that

2:42:43 > 2:42:48there were moments that were slightly lacking in confidence. You

2:42:48 > 2:42:52know, coming out from that accident. There were a couple of moments where

2:42:52 > 2:42:55I thought they were trying to be too careful to not make mistakes and

2:42:55 > 2:43:00they lost a bit of Unison on their twizzles and turns. This

2:43:00 > 2:43:06performance, they gave everything. Their gold medal is being able to

2:43:06 > 2:43:11get these games and perform, equip themselves in the way that they

2:43:11 > 2:43:14have. That is their gold medal. They should be very proud of themselves.

2:43:14 > 2:43:20Going through all of this, they have been up and down emotionally. Penny

2:43:20 > 2:43:27has got some great. She sure has, to get back onto the ice. The gap

2:43:27 > 2:43:32between ice dance and pairs, is it narrowing? Saw the lifts that we saw

2:43:32 > 2:43:37out there, it crosses the line?Is getting very athletic and acrobatic

2:43:37 > 2:43:42to some degree. The two are getting closer. With the paired skaters,

2:43:42 > 2:43:45they said to me, when I choreographed for the Germans, make

2:43:45 > 2:43:53us a nice dance routine.It is crossing over.When we saw Virtue

2:43:53 > 2:44:00and Moir, there were some elements, particularly above the shoulders,

2:44:00 > 2:44:05that was kind of frowned upon in your day, Jayne Torvill?

2:44:05 > 2:44:10that was kind of frowned upon in your day, JayneYou said that they

2:44:10 > 2:44:15can't lift the body weight? She can stand on the shoulders beyond his

2:44:15 > 2:44:19back, but he can't use his hands to support their weight. Standing on

2:44:19 > 2:44:28the thighs, who knows? Ouch!A couple more questions have come in.

2:44:28 > 2:44:32When the ice skaters are in full flow, can they tell if they are not

2:44:32 > 2:44:37in sync with one another? I guess they are talking with twizzles, step

2:44:37 > 2:44:39sequences, is there anything you can do to correct that when you are in

2:44:39 > 2:44:41full flow?

2:44:44 > 2:44:48It is a committed thing when you go into it, on twizzles, when you have

2:44:48 > 2:44:52committed, you can't do much to change that. What you try to do, you

2:44:52 > 2:44:57have the timing and rhythm that you don't get off sync with each other.

2:44:57 > 2:45:01If that happens, it is hard to correct. You were never in that

2:45:01 > 2:45:06position?

2:45:08 > 2:45:16You never have to correct anything. Not with me, clearly!Thank you so

2:45:16 > 2:45:22much and Jayne you are back tomorrow, but it's been a pleasure

2:45:22 > 2:45:27reuniting you today. I don't know whether Jayne and Chris were as at

2:45:27 > 2:45:37home on skis as skates?I am mostly on skis now.May be a new career

2:45:37 > 2:45:43beckons but you are welcome to stay and analyse the biathlon and Nordic

2:45:43 > 2:45:51combines but I suspect you might want to have a coffee.

2:45:51 > 2:45:54Paddy Geary can bring us up to speed with two events that sum up

2:45:54 > 2:45:56all that is gruelling and great about the Nordic sports

2:45:56 > 2:45:57experience.

2:45:57 > 2:46:03The mixed by Athlone relay is still a new event. The idea, each team has

2:46:03 > 2:46:10two men and two women, women ski three lots of two kilometres each,

2:46:10 > 2:46:21the then do the same but with loops of 2.5 kilometres.

2:46:21 > 2:46:24of 2.5 kilometres. The four time world champion in biathlon, but it

2:46:24 > 2:46:31doesn't make him perfect. Missed shots mean dropped places. France

2:46:31 > 2:46:35started to take control, it was over to skiing shooting superstar to

2:46:35 > 2:46:41finish it. This man already has two gold medals at the games and was so

2:46:41 > 2:46:48dominant he could stage manage his descent sporting history.

2:46:49 > 2:46:51descent sporting history. The greatest French or summer Olympian,

2:46:51 > 2:46:57gold number three in the Pyeongchang.Behind that Italy were

2:46:57 > 2:47:01about to make Germany's day words, pipping them to a bronze. The

2:47:01 > 2:47:12Germans felt Vindic had cut in front of the month early. To the only

2:47:12 > 2:47:16Winter Olympics bought that only involves men, Nordic combined, a

2:47:16 > 2:47:19mixture of the endurance of cross-country on the exuberance of

2:47:19 > 2:47:23ski jumping. There are two individual events, one on a normal

2:47:23 > 2:47:33hill and this was on the large health which

2:47:33 > 2:47:38health which saw the Japanese going into the lead. Then a ten kilometres

2:47:38 > 2:47:42slog of skis, sweat and snow. The Norwegian battled his way to the

2:47:42 > 2:47:46front, behind him three Germans were waiting for their moment. Four years

2:47:46 > 2:47:55ago in Sochi it went wrong right at the end, but could he and his

2:47:55 > 2:48:03countrymen stay in front this time? Germany one, two, three, they are

2:48:03 > 2:48:10stunned and elated. It is exhausting just watching it. Germany dominate

2:48:10 > 2:48:14the Larch Hill Nordic combined.Yes, a clean sweep for the Germans and

2:48:14 > 2:48:20they will be bumped up even further in the medal table. In the roaring

2:48:20 > 2:48:25game of curling its getting into the nitty-gritty now because with only

2:48:25 > 2:48:30two matches left for both men and women, they must get to the top four

2:48:30 > 2:48:34in the round robin stage is to qualify for the knockout stages.

2:48:34 > 2:48:40There is no better man to have in your corner than Kyle Smith and his

2:48:40 > 2:48:44dad, David Smith, a former world champion himself. Word reaches us

2:48:44 > 2:48:52that both Dave and his wife have had a quiet word in their son's years

2:48:52 > 2:48:56and I'm sure confidence levels were boosted ahead of their penultimate

2:48:56 > 2:48:59match today. This is how it looked coming in

2:48:59 > 2:49:00match today. This is how it looked coming in because Great Britain in

2:49:00 > 2:49:04third place is tied with the Canadians going into this match.

2:49:04 > 2:49:10Only the top four going through today, they took on the Norwegians

2:49:10 > 2:49:16for who it was effectively wind or bust today. It wasn't just their

2:49:16 > 2:49:21trousers that might give Kyle a few headaches today. We're joining it in

2:49:21 > 2:49:32the first end. COMMENTATOR: We have been remarking

2:49:32 > 2:49:40about how Thomas has warmed up to this competition, younger brother

2:49:40 > 2:49:50Rob Eve Muirhead of course.

2:49:52 > 2:49:59World champion, Olympics and -- Olympic silver medallist in

2:49:59 > 2:50:09Vancouver.

2:50:12 > 2:50:20This is his 373rd International game for Norway.

2:50:23 > 2:50:27for Norway.His not only very experienced, he's been very

2:50:27 > 2:50:32successful but you were saying, am I right in thinking there was a bit if

2:50:32 > 2:50:39not controversy but discussion overall whether he should be here or

2:50:39 > 2:50:47not, Ulsrud.You are right, there is another up-and-coming men's team

2:50:47 > 2:50:51that has been producing some great results on the world curling tour

2:50:51 > 2:50:59over the last couple of seasons but also they beat Norway in the recent

2:50:59 > 2:51:02World Championships. They went to the last World Championships for

2:51:02 > 2:51:09Norway but Ulsrud was given the nod on the premise that they made the

2:51:09 > 2:51:12play-offs at the European Championships, which they managed to

2:51:12 > 2:51:18do, but then finished fourth. This is pending up a nice tidy end for

2:51:18 > 2:51:24Great Britain. Just

2:51:25 > 2:51:30Great Britain. Just looking for... Did they ask for a technician? They

2:51:30 > 2:51:38have lost a stone? How can you lose a stone?

2:51:38 > 2:51:42a stone? It was called into action earlier today. He has brought a CD

2:51:42 > 2:51:48with him as well.

2:51:48 > 2:51:51with him as well. That's the first time I've seen the man with the Alan

2:51:51 > 2:51:59key come on with another piece of equipment. Anyway, we are all set.

2:51:59 > 2:52:10He should have his own programme you know. What's his name?Mark.

2:52:13 > 2:52:19know. What's his name?Mark.Allen key mark. This could be a great

2:52:19 > 2:52:31start for Britain.Yes, this could be a good start for Britain.

2:52:31 > 2:52:33be a good start for Britain. Even with that mistake earlier in the end

2:52:33 > 2:52:41from Kyle, he's taking a look at this one and you know what, he might

2:52:41 > 2:52:51be able to get all three if he hits it perfect.Yes, just on that shot

2:52:51 > 2:52:56there, was it the intention to roll that side? Would it not have been

2:52:56 > 2:53:00better to go the other way?As long as they were sticking around in the

2:53:00 > 2:53:05house, the last thing they would want to do is create an easy double

2:53:05 > 2:53:14straight up.So Ulsrud in a bit of bother here because Great Britain

2:53:14 > 2:53:19with three stones and the hammer here. If he gets this wrong, Great

2:53:19 > 2:53:23Britain could pick up three. If he gets it right and takes all three

2:53:23 > 2:53:29are out, it could just be one. Generally speaking this is the kind

2:53:29 > 2:53:37of shocked we want to see Ulsrud playing. He's potentially less

2:53:37 > 2:53:43accurate when throwing the take-outs.There you go. We have

2:53:43 > 2:53:51seen on this outside sheet, this is sheet A they are playing on. There

2:53:51 > 2:53:55are four sheets. Some players struggle on the outside. Anyway he

2:53:55 > 2:53:59managed to get on so it is a straightforward draw for Great

2:53:59 > 2:54:11Britain and this would set them up really nicely.

2:54:12 > 2:54:18really nicely. Kyle Smith has on occasion have some difficult shots,

2:54:18 > 2:54:21lots of difficult shots to make, but the fact he has come up when it

2:54:21 > 2:54:28matters most with the right shots and got some good victories. Really

2:54:28 > 2:54:35close games. We've had extra ends, a lot of pressure on the skip. Not on

2:54:35 > 2:54:39this occasion, this is fairly straightforward. We wouldn't mind if

2:54:39 > 2:54:45it all went like this today. So this is a cracking start for the British

2:54:45 > 2:54:50men. Pick up their three in the first end and that will give them

2:54:50 > 2:54:55not only a lot of confidence but it will affect Norway also and they

2:54:55 > 2:55:00have got a chasing game now right from the very start.

2:55:00 > 2:55:04And Kyle Smith clearly in good form out on the ice. They will pick them

2:55:04 > 2:55:10up again in this expense whether British team have established a

2:55:10 > 2:55:16commanding 6-3 lead. It is looking very good this point.

2:55:30 > 2:55:34COMMENTATOR: He has just been missing, hasn't he. Kyle Smith is

2:55:34 > 2:55:44saying, come on, have a go. Switzerland have restored order in

2:55:44 > 2:55:59that match against Korea. It was a steal of three.

2:55:59 > 2:56:07steal of three. Korea now trail Switzerland 5-4. Not too far away.

2:56:07 > 2:56:20Great short.Nicely done. Not much in it here. That was almost as if to

2:56:20 > 2:56:30say, well I am trying. Time out for Great Britain while

2:56:30 > 2:56:36they have a little think about this. They know, let's not open the door

2:56:36 > 2:56:43for Norway. It is the sixth end, keep control of this match. And this

2:56:43 > 2:56:47is kind of what I was talking about. This was almost inevitable and they

2:56:47 > 2:56:51could have predicted this would happen. I'm just not sure they

2:56:51 > 2:56:58played the right shot with the last one.

2:56:58 > 2:57:04one.I always think he's like a policeman who's coming on duty. Arms

2:57:04 > 2:57:18behind, arching out there. Evening all!

2:57:18 > 2:57:27I want to get rid of the sixth one. I want to get rid of the other one.

2:57:27 > 2:57:35He could still have this one and then his round again.

2:57:38 > 2:57:45Has he picked up that? I don't think they say that in Sweden, do they?

2:57:45 > 2:57:55Aye? So he's saying let's get rid of it.

2:57:58 > 2:58:02So Britain using their time-out, using it at a good time. They don't

2:58:02 > 2:58:08want to allow Norway back in this and find themselves in a sticky

2:58:08 > 2:58:14situation a little bit later.

2:58:20 > 2:58:30Just inside here for Kyle Smith. He hits it right on the nose. It is a

2:58:30 > 2:58:38good shot there.Well, only one stone left for Norway. He's going to

2:58:38 > 2:58:45take that on and try to come in behind the red. Is he?No, I think

2:58:45 > 2:58:50they are just going to play the straight draw here, Steve. If you

2:58:50 > 2:58:55play the take-out, it is much more difficult to control where the

2:58:55 > 2:59:00throwing stone goes.He has played down the line so he's probably

2:59:00 > 2:59:06thinking I know what this is like. They really need to steal here,

2:59:06 > 2:59:11there's no benefit in them losing red stones. But if he loses three,

2:59:11 > 2:59:16it is game over, isn't it?But when you are chasing the game three shots

2:59:16 > 2:59:20down, you don't have the last stone, you need to take every opportunity

2:59:20 > 2:59:26to score that you can.

2:59:38 > 2:59:46This needs to be good then, needs to be tucked away as well as he can. It

2:59:46 > 2:59:53is curling a lot already, an awful lot. He's on the top one. This be

2:59:53 > 3:00:01curtains.It could be a situation which Norway decides there is no way

3:00:01 > 3:00:06back from. You can shake hands and decide enough is enough. It will be

3:00:06 > 3:00:129-3 and you cannot see Norway coming back from that. At the worst it will

3:00:12 > 3:00:17be 8-3 so straightforward shot here from Kyle Smith to pick up three.

3:00:17 > 3:00:21The discussion going on between the Norwegian team at the moment. I

3:00:21 > 3:00:27think it is probably along the lines of let's get out of here, guys,

3:00:27 > 3:00:32because it's been a rotten day at the office. Let's regroup. It's been

3:00:32 > 3:00:36an excellent performance from the British team so far, and Kyle Smith

3:00:36 > 3:00:41wanting to put the icing on the cake here. He thinks he's a bit heavy, he

3:00:41 > 3:00:48says. Should be OK though.

3:00:51 > 3:00:55That will come in nicely and pick up his three. That is going to be it,

3:00:55 > 3:01:00the Norwegian team coming over. They may decide to keep going. They are

3:01:00 > 3:01:05still deciding.

3:01:05 > 3:01:139-3 to Great Britain. And they play on. And seven, both teams have two

3:01:13 > 3:01:16stones remaining. Norway are still hanging on in there.

3:01:29 > 3:01:35At least 2016 worlds, the standardising of the brushes came

3:01:35 > 3:01:40in, just like the F1 tyres, if you like.It is usually the case, isn't

3:01:40 > 3:01:45it? Technology comes into any element of sport. You try to push

3:01:45 > 3:01:48the boundaries and then it gets reined back in, when people think it

3:01:48 > 3:01:53is an unfair advantage. Or at least there is a development that isn't

3:01:53 > 3:01:56available to everybody. You have players that have been playing for

3:01:56 > 3:01:59ever, they realise when they were sweeping, because of the new

3:01:59 > 3:02:02learning that has been taking place, they are actually making them curl

3:02:02 > 3:02:07more, they are not making it go straight like they were trying to

3:02:07 > 3:02:15do. It changed the thinking about sweeping.

3:02:17 > 3:02:23Another great shot from Kyle Smith.

3:02:23 > 3:02:34Double takeout. A familiar story from Norway. Nothing with Norway to

3:02:34 > 3:02:41work with.

3:02:42 > 3:02:49Could sit on top, perhaps. Got it behind the front garden. That is

3:02:49 > 3:02:51very easy to see.

3:02:56 > 3:03:02If they were not resigned to their fate after six ends, you get the

3:03:02 > 3:03:06feeling that another and passes here and with another score for Britain,

3:03:06 > 3:03:15one for Norway, the fact they have kept going to pick one up, you might

3:03:15 > 3:03:21surely think that is enough. See what they decide.

3:03:30 > 3:03:35Trying to keep that match in Switzerland going at 5-5.

3:03:42 > 3:03:45That would put Switzerland on six wins, and would guarantee them in

3:03:45 > 3:03:54the semifinals.

3:03:54 > 3:03:57Canada and Great Britain would be on six wins, and then a gap to the rest

3:03:57 > 3:04:04of the field.

3:04:08 > 3:04:16The line is good!

3:04:18 > 3:04:28Broom!This looks very good.He just keeps turning the screw, doesn't he?

3:04:28 > 3:04:31Thomas just needs to accept he's not going to beat Kyle Smith today. I

3:04:31 > 3:04:40don't know if anybody can. He is on fire right now.

3:04:40 > 3:04:45It has been very good from the very beginning. Particularly from Kyle

3:04:45 > 3:04:49Smith. You have to be set up by your team, they have given opportunities

3:04:49 > 3:04:57to play good shots, but he has missed nothing.

3:04:59 > 3:05:11I admire their fortitude in the sense of sticking to the task.

3:05:23 > 3:05:29If you speak to him, he would say, in 2011, I was 9-3 down, with four

3:05:29 > 3:05:32to play, this and that happened. He has enough experience, he has been

3:05:32 > 3:05:40there so many times before.

3:05:40 > 3:05:50Anything with 73 in, I remember. Good year.You look puzzled?

3:05:50 > 3:06:00Sunderland won the FA Cup. 1973.How didn't I know that?I've no idea, it

3:06:00 > 3:06:08is famous. William

3:06:09 > 3:06:13almost trying an impossible shot. Trying to tap the Redstone. Just

3:06:13 > 3:06:21trying to sneak past the guard, and no more.

3:06:21 > 3:06:26They did not shake hands after the sixth end. They decided to keep

3:06:26 > 3:06:31fighting. That is exactly what they are trying to do. Desperate to try

3:06:31 > 3:06:37and get his two here. A difficult shot for the Norwegian skip. He had

3:06:37 > 3:06:49some difficult shots to make without any success, really. This is wide.

3:06:50 > 3:06:57There is the one. The match is over. The handshakes finally come. Delayed

3:06:57 > 3:07:01by an end in which Norway really prolonged their own agony. 9-3 down,

3:07:01 > 3:07:07trying to force a couple. In so doing, they gave up the steel to

3:07:07 > 3:07:10Great Britain. That has been their best performance of the Olympic

3:07:10 > 3:07:16Games so far. Not just the score, but the manner in which they played.

3:07:16 > 3:07:21Great Britain have beaten Norway 10-3. They now have five wins. With

3:07:21 > 3:07:24just one match to go, a victory against the USA would guarantee them

3:07:24 > 3:07:29a place in the semifinals. Great Britain walk off the ice a very

3:07:29 > 3:07:31happy team indeed.

3:07:35 > 3:07:39Congratulations, do you think that was your best performance?Probably.

3:07:39 > 3:07:43There were still a couple of slack ones, but we applied the pressure.

3:07:43 > 3:07:49Really pleased. You were out of the blocks like Usain Bolt, three in the

3:07:49 > 3:07:54first?Yes, good start. That was when we managed to win the hammer

3:07:54 > 3:07:57and get three on the ball straightaway. It is great to get a

3:07:57 > 3:08:02head start like that. We managed to keep it going, which was good.Of

3:08:02 > 3:08:06course, now you are sitting in a very comfortable position in terms

3:08:06 > 3:08:09of qualification, because you know it is in your hands. That is what

3:08:09 > 3:08:14you want to have, one more win and you are through?Yes, if we knew we

3:08:14 > 3:08:17would come into the next game of the round-robin needing a win and it is

3:08:17 > 3:08:20in our hands, we would be happy. We have put ourselves in a great

3:08:20 > 3:08:24position and need to do the job tomorrow.I am going to give you a

3:08:24 > 3:08:28technical question, do you think you play better in red?It is my

3:08:28 > 3:08:34favourite colour, to be honest! I really enjoy playing in red.We were

3:08:34 > 3:08:37saying that you played so well today, maybe it would have been good

3:08:37 > 3:08:41to be coming back tonight? I know you have a session out tonight, but

3:08:41 > 3:08:45I guess it is a question of gathering yourself for tomorrow? It

3:08:45 > 3:08:49is nice to have a break. It has been a bit relentless, to be honest. It

3:08:49 > 3:08:53doesn't feel like we have had a lot of time off. Nice to enjoy the rest

3:08:53 > 3:08:57of the day, supporting the girls later on, really focus for the game

3:08:57 > 3:09:02tomorrow.Well played, congratulations.

3:09:02 > 3:09:11This is the situation out of the completed matches.

3:09:13 > 3:09:17If Great Britain win, they will definitely go through. There will be

3:09:17 > 3:09:26no need for the curling version of the Duckworth-Lewis method! Looking

3:09:26 > 3:09:31rather chipper, what gives you cause for celebration? They played really

3:09:31 > 3:09:35well. They came out with great confidence. They took three in the

3:09:35 > 3:09:41first end from Thomas, that is no mean feat. That set the tone. They

3:09:41 > 3:09:48were out there from start to finish, with a job to do, delivered.Three

3:09:48 > 3:09:51wins in a row, a very good time to start coming good in this

3:09:51 > 3:09:59competition.It is such a long week, you can't perform at 100% the whole

3:09:59 > 3:10:04time. That is not possible. It is good to build, as the week goes on,

3:10:04 > 3:10:06when you get to the play-off games in a straight knockout, you want to

3:10:06 > 3:10:14be performing at your best. That is when you need to pick. You know this

3:10:14 > 3:10:17rink very well, you were instrumental in picking them out in

3:10:17 > 3:10:21the early days, how well established as the team? They played three

3:10:21 > 3:10:24juniors together, they had a very successful junior career. They know

3:10:24 > 3:10:32each other inside out. It is a key factor to this team dynamic. Yes, I

3:10:32 > 3:10:34was involved in putting them into the regional Academy Way back when

3:10:34 > 3:10:39they were young boys, to get that extra coaching and drive them

3:10:39 > 3:10:43forward. It is really nice to see how much they have progressed and

3:10:43 > 3:10:50matured over the years. They come from very good stock! You have Kyle

3:10:50 > 3:10:58and his brother Kami, the sons of Dave Smith, who himself was

3:10:58 > 3:11:00instrumental in getting culling into the Olympic Games in the first

3:11:00 > 3:11:07place. What is the story? They have skipped the Great Britain team in

3:11:07 > 3:11:101988, when it was a demonstration sport at the Olympics. He was

3:11:10 > 3:11:14basically part of selling culling to the IOC, to get it into the

3:11:14 > 3:11:20Olympics. Now his son, his two Sands, they are playing. Dave had a

3:11:20 > 3:11:26hugely successful career. It has driven his son's. He has won world

3:11:26 > 3:11:34junior medals, he is a champion. He has so much experience to pass on

3:11:34 > 3:11:40and they have that in the household. And the Muirhead champion, two sons

3:11:40 > 3:11:45in the mail setup as well. He is at home at the moment is to markHe has

3:11:45 > 3:11:50had to stay at home and look after the animals.

3:11:50 > 3:11:54Somebody had to do it. He will be a nervous wreck. The farm might be

3:11:54 > 3:12:00abandoned for the next few days.He has his daughter, skippering the

3:12:00 > 3:12:03women's team as well. What do you like about Kyle and the way the

3:12:03 > 3:12:08communication levels have been peeking between the team? That is so

3:12:08 > 3:12:12important in the sport of culling? Hugely important. When they were

3:12:12 > 3:12:18younger, they were fiery youngsters on the ice. Now they have matured so

3:12:18 > 3:12:27much, the communication is fantastic. They work well together.

3:12:27 > 3:12:32Kyle is calm, he does not get flustered. He keeps a lid on any

3:12:32 > 3:12:38issues that could arise. They deal with them and move on. In the past,

3:12:38 > 3:12:47issues may have lingered through the game. Now they just been

3:12:47 > 3:12:54game. Now they just been -- bin that and move on.A lot of pressure,

3:12:54 > 3:12:59after that silver. All going well for Great Britain. So, to the women.

3:12:59 > 3:13:10It has been a long time since Rhona took the gold medal, with Fiona and

3:13:10 > 3:13:19Mags. That was the first gold at Great Britain managed to

3:13:19 > 3:13:22establishing any sport since Torvill and Dean. She was also there in

3:13:22 > 3:13:26Sochi, as the head women's coach to see Eve Muirhead follow her on an

3:13:26 > 3:13:32Olympic podium.

3:13:32 > 3:13:38It all comes down to this. The last stone of the final end, a chance to

3:13:38 > 3:13:43win an Olympic medal. This young British team, skipped by the young

3:13:43 > 3:13:47Eve Muirhead. They are the world champions. Now they could be the

3:13:47 > 3:13:52Olympic bronze medallists, if this is right. She is watching anxiously.

3:13:52 > 3:13:57Hold your nerve, hold your breath. Watch this stone. They are sweeping

3:13:57 > 3:14:02it. They are watching it. Even is coming down and is looking

3:14:02 > 3:14:06anxiously. They have got to keep working. There is no chance to

3:14:06 > 3:14:12celebrate yet. The stone is going to get there. The brushes are in the

3:14:12 > 3:14:19air. Britain have won the bronze medal! Eve Muirhead held her nerve.

3:14:19 > 3:14:24Those icy blue eyes can light up.

3:14:25 > 3:14:28How would you sum up your emotions when that was going on? You could

3:14:28 > 3:14:33not control what was going on on the ice, what was it like watching it?

3:14:33 > 3:14:36Scary, on the ice you can control what is happening, when you are

3:14:36 > 3:14:39sitting behind the scenes, you can't, you just have to sit and

3:14:39 > 3:14:42hope! Hope that all of the hard work pays off and they perform on the

3:14:42 > 3:14:49day.Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, returning from the rink in

3:14:49 > 3:14:53Sochi. Lauren Gray was the ultimate, moving up to leading the team. A

3:14:53 > 3:14:57very established team. They have some trials and tribulations over

3:14:57 > 3:15:00the last few days but they went to the penultimate match today with

3:15:00 > 3:15:06four wins and three defeats. Eve and her team-mates had the semifinals in

3:15:06 > 3:15:10the sites if they could win their last two matters. That was against

3:15:10 > 3:15:13the rather surprisingly high-flying Japanese team. We are going to join

3:15:13 > 3:15:16this one because Britain went 3-1

3:15:16 > 3:15:16Japanese team. We are going to join this one because Britain went 3-1

3:15:16 > 3:15:22down after two ends. They bounced back with a steel in the sixth, the

3:15:22 > 3:15:24Japanese skipper made some pretty crucial errors. This was one of

3:15:24 > 3:15:25them.

3:15:30 > 3:15:38We will join it at the start of the ninth, 7-5 to Britain.

3:15:50 > 3:15:58Watching these two teams, w have had a good competition. Japan surprised

3:15:58 > 3:16:03people to be in contention. Their last two matches against Great

3:16:03 > 3:16:08Britain and against Switzerland. Although they were in a good

3:16:08 > 3:16:12position coming into this, with five win, no guarantee that five wins and

3:16:12 > 3:16:16four losses is going to get them through. Great Britain would love to

3:16:16 > 3:16:19make it six wins. They have to win this one first against Japan. If

3:16:19 > 3:16:25they can get this one over the line, then they face Canada with their

3:16:25 > 3:16:31final match. A record of 5-4 will, I'm pretty sure, see you in a

3:16:31 > 3:16:36tie-break match. A record of 6-3, then you will definitely be through.

3:16:36 > 3:16:425-4 may be good enough to go through. All of that will come out

3:16:42 > 3:16:50in the wash.

3:16:50 > 3:16:54Actually USA picked up two over Korea. That one is still very much

3:16:54 > 3:16:59in the balance. Didn't look as if that was going to happen in that

3:16:59 > 3:17:09previous end. Watching that ahead of us. 7-6 Korea lead that one.

3:17:09 > 3:17:16So Japan with the hammer here. Those two stones just coming to rest side

3:17:16 > 3:17:23by side from Lauren.

3:17:29 > 3:17:35Yurika Yoshida two years younger than her sister. Putting the two

3:17:35 > 3:17:40corner guards up.

3:17:42 > 3:17:49corner guards up. Little short with that one.

3:17:49 > 3:17:52So after four stones have been played then you can remove the

3:17:52 > 3:17:57guards. They are protected up until that point, if they're out of the

3:17:57 > 3:18:03house, in front of the house.

3:18:05 > 3:18:07house, in front of the house. Eve Muirhead asking Vicki Adams just to

3:18:07 > 3:18:08remove this one.

3:18:16 > 3:18:21Well, I always think the last three ends is when you see the good

3:18:21 > 3:18:29players really come to the fore, make their shots. The skips making

3:18:29 > 3:18:34the right decisions. Reading the game, reading the situation. For Eve

3:18:34 > 3:18:41Muirhead, trying to keep control of this.

3:18:41 > 3:18:49Very much about managing the pressure at this stage in the game.

3:18:51 > 3:18:56A little changing in tactics here. Japan just going to use these two

3:18:56 > 3:19:01stones of Great Britain's to sit in front of, make it hard to remove.

3:19:01 > 3:19:05Eve just going to ignore this one and take the corner. The corner will

3:19:05 > 3:19:08cause the trouble if she doesn't move it. They need one in behind

3:19:08 > 3:19:14there and a little mistake or a slight error of judgment and Japan

3:19:14 > 3:19:20could have the opportunity to great a two. You want to hit this and roll

3:19:20 > 3:19:27it out of the house. They catch too much of it.

3:19:27 > 3:19:31That's not the best position to be in, sitting in front of those

3:19:31 > 3:19:43stones. A little mistake from Vicki.

3:19:43 > 3:19:48Japan will be hoping to get their two tied up. Great Britain would

3:19:48 > 3:19:53have the hammer in the final end, one would be enough to win it, of

3:19:53 > 3:19:58course. Japan might, I don't think will be in any situation where this

3:19:58 > 3:20:05end will end up being blanked. Anything other than two for Japan

3:20:05 > 3:20:10really is going to give Great Britain a massive opportunity.

3:20:10 > 3:20:18Because even if Japan were to steal, a little tap back there, it wouldn't

3:20:18 > 3:20:23be enough to win. Obviously, if Britain got a steal here, then that

3:20:23 > 3:20:26would be a really good position to be in. Japan would keep the hammer

3:20:26 > 3:20:32into the last end, but we would be three ahead. So all of that to be

3:20:32 > 3:20:38played out.

3:20:38 > 3:20:42When you think that Great Britain, after five games, had only two wins

3:20:42 > 3:20:50and three losses in the run in that they were going to have, a win here

3:20:50 > 3:20:58would be a massive confidence booster. So what is she thinking

3:20:58 > 3:21:07here, Eve? Sorry that's Eve, you're Jackie!They would like to get rid

3:21:07 > 3:21:11of both of these yellows. They are worried it might jam on the back

3:21:11 > 3:21:19red.

3:21:19 > 3:21:31No more time outs for Great Britain. Japan still yet to use theirs. You

3:21:31 > 3:21:36saw Glen Howard looking on. He has to leave it up to them now.

3:21:36 > 3:21:40Little signals, that's not allowed. That's not allowed. Definitely a no,

3:21:40 > 3:21:48no.Not even hand signals.No. We don't use referees. We have umpires

3:21:48 > 3:21:51on the ice. They will be checking to see if you are looking up for

3:21:51 > 3:21:58guidance from your coaches. Only allowed the one minute time out.

3:22:00 > 3:22:09That's OK.That's OK, isn't it? Not a bad result. A little flop in

3:22:09 > 3:22:17there. Not bad. Not bad says Anna. There is an opportunity for Japan to

3:22:17 > 3:22:21catch the red and tap the yellow back and push the red a little bit.

3:22:21 > 3:22:26She won't want to put too much weight on it, just enough for a tap,

3:22:26 > 3:22:32tap, tap.

3:22:33 > 3:22:44A little bit of tap dancing here required.

3:22:44 > 3:22:51required. Chinami Yoshida.

3:22:59 > 3:23:07That was very gentle tap. Is that yellow a target? So the red is safe

3:23:07 > 3:23:19in there at the minute. Just the way the angles are sitting.

3:23:19 > 3:23:24the angles are sitting.I heard she's not going for that. So the

3:23:24 > 3:23:36decisions have to be Eve's now. There are no time-outs left.

3:23:36 > 3:23:40There are no time-outs left.So Eve just looking to protect that centre

3:23:40 > 3:23:49line again. This is where, you know, Eve's experience now tells you. You

3:23:49 > 3:23:54almost forget she's been to tleet Olympic Games and multiple World

3:23:54 > 3:24:01Championships. They are the current European Champions, of course. Right

3:24:01 > 3:24:08on the centre line. Just trying to protect the ability for those stones

3:24:08 > 3:24:13to be used at some point. So now Japan wanting to shift them out of

3:24:13 > 3:24:23there. Try to get a clear run in. A clear look at what's going on

3:24:23 > 3:24:31around. They need the two here desperately, Japan.

3:24:37 > 3:24:43So Yoshida...I think she's overthrone. Going to jam.Jammed it

3:24:43 > 3:24:48on, yeah. Again, the mistakes have been there. If you are just tuning

3:24:48 > 3:24:52into this. It was a difficult start for Great Britain. They only picked

3:24:52 > 3:24:57up one with the hammer in the first end. Japan managed to pick up three

3:24:57 > 3:25:03in the second end. So they were 3-1 up at that point. We clawed our way

3:25:03 > 3:25:11back into it. Then 3-3 at the halfway point. Great Britain

3:25:11 > 3:25:17answered with a three. A steal of three, wasn't it, that lead 6-3.

3:25:17 > 3:25:23Since then they have been trading scores, but it's been the mistakes

3:25:23 > 3:25:26from Japan that Great Britain have been able to capitalise on that have

3:25:26 > 3:25:32put us in this position. So we have to make sure we can guard this up

3:25:32 > 3:25:38because we don't want to leave that yellow open and let Japan get to tap

3:25:38 > 3:25:48it.That might look a long way away, but when you sit from where we're

3:25:48 > 3:25:54sitting, it's making the line into that yellow very difficult indeed.

3:25:54 > 3:26:00With Great Britain lying shot here, the idea is to try and force or get

3:26:00 > 3:26:07Japan forcing. She still thinks she can see it through that gap. There

3:26:07 > 3:26:10is a Tynaway gap through there. Enough to get a stone through. This

3:26:10 > 3:26:18has got to be good. So what she is looking at here is kind of a turn

3:26:18 > 3:26:21out across the centre line. Clock-wise rotation of the stone

3:26:21 > 3:26:24down that centre line, just turning towards the right. But she's got

3:26:24 > 3:26:33to...It's going to be tight.A high red guard to had nip late. A yellow

3:26:33 > 3:26:37in the house. A great shot if she pulls it off. Very difficult.Swing

3:26:37 > 3:26:43through this gap between the two reds. Not sure she's going... Oh, is

3:26:43 > 3:26:48she there.Catches it is wrong.Oh. She still taps it in. Not enough

3:26:48 > 3:26:52this time. But still an opportunity. Great Britain still have shot,

3:26:52 > 3:26:56though. Was unlucky. That was a brave shot to take on. A really

3:26:56 > 3:27:01brave shot. She almost made it. Just that little nick. All of these

3:27:01 > 3:27:05things make a difference. It you willers the angle at which you hit

3:27:05 > 3:27:09the second stone. Too thin. Didn't get the tack back. Wasn't able to

3:27:09 > 3:27:17move the British stone, just glanced it. Great Britain still lying shot.

3:27:19 > 3:27:26Guard up those that she can't get to the one foot.

3:27:29 > 3:27:29the one foot. Foot.

3:27:30 > 3:27:37Yeah, I think there is a plan there. Looking for the run back, isn't she?

3:27:37 > 3:27:42Yeah. You can't cover both options. You have to chose to cover the

3:27:42 > 3:27:47runback and leave her with the draw to the one foot. For a one.I would

3:27:47 > 3:27:51leave her with a draw to the one foot.Yeah.That's one and that's

3:27:51 > 3:27:57OK. Then you have the hammer, one up in the final end. So I think Eve

3:27:57 > 3:28:02Muirhead settling for safety first here.I think there is only an

3:28:02 > 3:28:07opportunity for her to get a one even if she plays the runback.Yeah.

3:28:07 > 3:28:15It's a red she's running back on to the yellow.Don't line them up.

3:28:15 > 3:28:27Don't line them up. Lined them up.

3:28:27 > 3:28:32Well, that's the option and...Just don't know where the red at the top

3:28:32 > 3:28:37of the house is going to go.Is the draw just too difficult here?If she

3:28:37 > 3:28:42gets this right, she could actually have two yellows in the house here,

3:28:42 > 3:28:52but it could... It's just -It could go horribly run.I need my third for

3:28:52 > 3:28:55judging the angles. Where is she when I need her. Here it goes.

3:28:55 > 3:28:58Stones be will be moving around here. She hasn't given that much

3:28:58 > 3:29:04weight.Trying the same shot. She can't see any of her stones surely.

3:29:04 > 3:29:10Maybe... That's going to catch the red. And that one.A steal of a win

3:29:10 > 3:29:14there for Great Britain.A steal, that might be the match for Great

3:29:14 > 3:29:19Britain. One more end to go. I don't think she could see hardly of that

3:29:19 > 3:29:24yellow. She could see two or three inches first time. Didn't make it.

3:29:24 > 3:29:27That was a very difficult shot. She could have at least had a go to draw

3:29:27 > 3:29:30in for the one. She doesn't make it. So another steal for Great Britain.

3:29:30 > 3:29:34It means that Japan will have the hammer in the final end, but they

3:29:34 > 3:29:43are three shots down. 8-5 after nine. Things looking good for Great

3:29:43 > 3:29:48Britain. Smart from Eve Muirhead. She could... She thought she had

3:29:48 > 3:29:50given the opportunity to move those stones around. Again the draw was

3:29:50 > 3:29:55there. She didn't fancy it. She didn't back herself with that. How

3:29:55 > 3:29:58much of that yellow. You really think she was going for that yellow?

3:29:58 > 3:30:03I think she was going for the red to chip the red out.Chip it out. She

3:30:03 > 3:30:07had hardly any weight to do that either.I know. Yeah. It was a big

3:30:07 > 3:30:07call.

3:30:12 > 3:30:17Well... Eve Muirhead will not be complaining. Great Britain have

3:30:17 > 3:30:22taken this match and turned it around from the second and, after a

3:30:22 > 3:30:27disappointing start to the match. To be fair, they were not making their

3:30:27 > 3:30:32shots either. They have got their act together, Eve in particular.

3:30:32 > 3:30:35With Japan needing three here, Great Britain will not be giving them

3:30:35 > 3:30:41anything to work with, just sending this stone through.

3:30:42 > 3:30:49Excitement elsewhere as well. Korea, in the ninth end, still leading the

3:30:49 > 3:30:59USA, 7-6. Canada are still trailing China by one. They picked up one in

3:30:59 > 3:31:08the ninth. China have the hammer and they are leading by one.

3:31:10 > 3:31:18they are leading by one. That could have been the impact. If Great

3:31:18 > 3:31:21Britain beat Japan here, Great Britain could put Canada out of the

3:31:21 > 3:31:26Olympic Games if they were to beat them in the final match of the round

3:31:26 > 3:31:32robin. Got to win this match first, of course. But a win against Canada

3:31:32 > 3:31:37would warranty Great Britain in the semifinals. If Canada lose that

3:31:37 > 3:31:44much... There are a lot of ifs here, why don't we just wait and see?

3:31:50 > 3:31:55The point about Eve and their team is that they have got into a winning

3:31:55 > 3:32:01habit. If they win this one, it is three in a row. Two guards being put

3:32:01 > 3:32:12up by Japan. Cheering ringing around for the match. I will tell you what

3:32:12 > 3:32:17Korea scored in the ninth end. They scored two and look in charge. That

3:32:17 > 3:32:25is a good result for Great Britain as well. Korea go marching on, if

3:32:25 > 3:32:29they win that one, but it puts paid to the USA's chances of getting past

3:32:29 > 3:32:33Great Britain.

3:32:33 > 3:32:43So far, so good.Sport is about peeking at the right time. I think

3:32:43 > 3:32:53they are doing that now. The team are starting to perform well. The

3:32:53 > 3:32:57three they gave up in the second end, did not start the match well.

3:32:57 > 3:33:02There wasn't any sense of panic, looking at each other going, what

3:33:02 > 3:33:07are we doing? Just calmly going about their business, waiting for

3:33:07 > 3:33:14the opportunities to arise. Forcing bad shots from Japan. They came, and

3:33:14 > 3:33:20when they came, they jumped all over it and got the scores. Big score on

3:33:20 > 3:33:25the sixth end, when they picked up three, turning the match around. All

3:33:25 > 3:33:29they need to do here is to make sure they don't do anything silly and

3:33:29 > 3:33:34every stone that get sent down the ice, every take out, another one

3:33:34 > 3:33:40goes. Japan have to score three to tie this up. Eve Muirhead will be

3:33:40 > 3:33:49trying to make sure that doesn't happen.

3:34:08 > 3:34:15The first one in, trying to hide behind the guard. Eve Muirhead will

3:34:15 > 3:34:23just remove the guard.

3:34:29 > 3:34:32Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, Lauren Gray, they have all played their

3:34:32 > 3:34:36part in this victory and the big match yesterday. It was a great team

3:34:36 > 3:34:44performance. Smiles all around from Vicki

3:34:44 > 3:34:47performance. Smiles all around from Vicki. You hardly ever see Anna

3:34:47 > 3:34:51without a smile. They know that they are close to wrapping this one up.

3:34:51 > 3:34:54Just no mistakes from here on in.

3:35:11 > 3:35:14Chinami Yoshida, they know that Japan still have a chance of

3:35:14 > 3:35:19qualifying even with a defeat, depending on how results go

3:35:19 > 3:35:23elsewhere. I'm not saying it is a defeat, they have not lost yet.Yes,

3:35:23 > 3:35:28but they need to work very quickly...I know, I am just saying.

3:35:28 > 3:35:35They only have three stones yet, but Great Britain have two after this

3:35:35 > 3:35:45one. So, it is becoming increasingly impossible for Japan to get three.

3:35:46 > 3:35:55Just the faintest of Nicks, but it goes. How do you assess this

3:35:55 > 3:36:01performance in this match, Jackie?I think the girls came out. As you

3:36:01 > 3:36:06say, Japan put some pressure on. The girls reacted straight back kept

3:36:06 > 3:36:12themselves in the game. As much as Japan have made the errors, we have

3:36:12 > 3:36:15capitalised every time they have made those errors. That is a

3:36:15 > 3:36:18positive you want to keep moving forward. The team dynamics are

3:36:18 > 3:36:24strong, the communications are good. Eve was playing really well. I can

3:36:24 > 3:36:27see she has got that confidence back. She was missing that in the

3:36:27 > 3:36:32start of the week. I am really positive about these girls making

3:36:32 > 3:36:42the play-off stages. Once they are here, it is a whole new ball game.

3:36:42 > 3:36:49Japan have three wins already, Great Britain would move to five. If Japan

3:36:49 > 3:36:53ended up with 5-4, they lost due to its land, they could still win the

3:36:53 > 3:36:56match and qualify themselves. The fact that we have beaten Japan in

3:36:56 > 3:37:02the round robin means that although we have a five in four record, if it

3:37:02 > 3:37:14comes to a chance, we get ranked higher.

3:37:18 > 3:37:25They will play these stones out. Have you ever seen anybody get a

3:37:25 > 3:37:33score of three from a situation like this?

3:37:37 > 3:37:42Never say never, but just make sure that you get the same routine, clean

3:37:42 > 3:37:46your stone, do it right.

3:37:59 > 3:38:07I think Fujisawa will apologise to her team. It has been as much her

3:38:07 > 3:38:10mistakes as anybody else. That is what the skipper is therefore, you

3:38:10 > 3:38:13can make the big shots and win for your team, but if you are not

3:38:13 > 3:38:22playing well, then the full glare of the spotlight is on you.

3:38:22 > 3:38:25the spotlight is on you. Nice. It has not been a nice performance for

3:38:25 > 3:38:29her, sadly. Great Britain should wrap this up. Eve Muirhead just

3:38:29 > 3:38:36needs to take one out here. Then it is all over.

3:38:53 > 3:38:55Eve Muirhead, ready to put the finishing touch to what has been a

3:38:55 > 3:39:03superb performance by the British women. They had to win this match

3:39:03 > 3:39:06against Japan, after a difficult start, they got it together and

3:39:06 > 3:39:11there the handshake comes. Great Britain have won three in a row now,

3:39:11 > 3:39:18a record of two and three after five matches. They now have five wins

3:39:18 > 3:39:23from eight games. One game left against Canada. That would guarantee

3:39:23 > 3:39:27them a slot in the top four. Even with the five wins they are in a

3:39:27 > 3:39:31good position, but they would want to guarantee that against Canada.

3:39:31 > 3:39:37Well done to Eve Muirhead and her team.

3:39:38 > 3:39:38Once

3:39:38 > 3:39:42Once again, congratulations. A good win. It look easy in the end, but it

3:39:42 > 3:39:48was a difficult match early on?Was, we knew that it would be tough. We

3:39:48 > 3:39:52gave them a lot of respect. We played our own game. We went down a

3:39:52 > 3:39:57couple early. We had a great fifth and chat with the coaches. We must

3:39:57 > 3:40:01have done something well, because we came back with three in the sixth

3:40:01 > 3:40:05end.Three in a row, things are looking good?Things are looking

3:40:05 > 3:40:13good. I know it is a cliche, but we take one stone, one game at a time.

3:40:13 > 3:40:18Winds are always important, but I am really pleased with the team

3:40:18 > 3:40:23performance out there. I thought it was solid and we are a good unit. Go

3:40:23 > 3:40:29into the round robin and do the same there.Do you feel things are really

3:40:29 > 3:40:33coming together? Yesterday was a really good performance. The team

3:40:33 > 3:40:40really coming together, and did again today?Close games make us

3:40:40 > 3:40:44feel totally focused. We really get into the game. If we can play to

3:40:44 > 3:40:48that standard, we are going in the right direction.I have to hesitate,

3:40:48 > 3:40:53because the Canadian team standing behind you. Canada in the last

3:40:53 > 3:40:56match, you can guarantee your place in a semifinal, and you can also

3:40:56 > 3:41:02knockout Canada? As the girls were saying, we prepare the same way for

3:41:02 > 3:41:05every match and give everybody maximum respect. We are going to do

3:41:05 > 3:41:12the same thing, the exact same approach.I understand you saying

3:41:12 > 3:41:16that, but you would put out a major rival? We take every game at a time.

3:41:16 > 3:41:21We said before that we give a lot of respect to the opposition. It is

3:41:21 > 3:41:26important that we go up a gear from now. Every game we have got slightly

3:41:26 > 3:41:29better. That was two back-to-back performances. We are feeling really

3:41:29 > 3:41:33good going in to tomorrow. Hopefully, if we play great again,

3:41:33 > 3:41:42who knows what could happen?Well done tonight.

3:41:42 > 3:41:44Beautifully and diplomatically done, with the Canadian standing on their

3:41:44 > 3:41:51shoulders! Confirmation that if the curlers win that match, they are

3:41:51 > 3:41:58through. If not, we might be through to the tie-breaker. Please, no!

3:41:58 > 3:42:03Rachel Homan has two matches for Canada, and then she is up against

3:42:03 > 3:42:06the Russians. It could be an interesting day for one of the

3:42:06 > 3:42:11favourites. Take us through that match. From 1-3 down, a very brisk

3:42:11 > 3:42:19turnaround. Was there one shot that summed up the ability that they had

3:42:19 > 3:42:23in that match?Definitely, you can see that when they were down they

3:42:23 > 3:42:27didn't get frustrated. They just kept plugging away. At the end,

3:42:27 > 3:42:31there was only one in the scoreline, and Japan were lying three. It was a

3:42:31 > 3:42:37crucial shot.

3:42:44 > 3:42:53A crucial shot, not just to freeze it, she had to move it back.

3:42:54 > 3:43:02This round-robin stages so tricky. How different an animal is Eve in

3:43:02 > 3:43:09the knockout stages? She loves to play the big shots. That is what

3:43:09 > 3:43:16this skipper needs to do. They have to play big shots when it matters,

3:43:16 > 3:43:19and she has been doing it all week. Can you quantify the pressure that

3:43:19 > 3:43:24will be on Rachel Homan's head for Canada? This is one of their

3:43:24 > 3:43:31national sports. Huge expectation? Huge. You know, they would be

3:43:31 > 3:43:37expected to be taking home the gold medal. To go three losses

3:43:37 > 3:43:40back-to-back at the beginning of the week, she was seriously under

3:43:40 > 3:43:44pressure. She had to win the rest of the games and now she has dropped

3:43:44 > 3:43:49one today. She will be having a sleepless night, I would think,

3:43:49 > 3:43:54tonight. She has got two must win games. Yes, she's perfectly capable

3:43:54 > 3:43:57of doing that and she has the ability, that something is not right

3:43:57 > 3:44:00with her performance this week. There is something bothering her.

3:44:00 > 3:44:03She is not the Rachel Homan that we know.

3:44:07 > 3:44:10Interesting all-round, you don't have the traditional powers at the

3:44:10 > 3:44:15top, Korea and Japan going well, how would you quantify the way things

3:44:15 > 3:44:20have changed in women, coming into this? We can clearly see it in the

3:44:20 > 3:44:28way things have gone?Definitely. Korea, Japan, China, they are new to

3:44:28 > 3:44:33the sport in comparison to a lot of the countries. But technically and

3:44:33 > 3:44:39tactically they have just trained so hard. They spend so much time in

3:44:39 > 3:44:42Canada learning from the good Canadian teams. They have jumped up

3:44:42 > 3:44:47the rankings. The nice thing to watch when they are playing is the

3:44:47 > 3:44:52consistency. You know, they are very quiet, they get on with the job and

3:44:52 > 3:44:58they just do it. You know, they are nice to watch. They could be a big

3:44:58 > 3:45:02threat for the British teams. Absolutely come in a nutshell, from

3:45:02 > 3:45:06everything you have seen, who would you say at this point is favourite

3:45:06 > 3:45:12for gold? I am putting you on the spot.In the women's? My money,

3:45:12 > 3:45:17depending on what happens with who plays who, my money would be a Great

3:45:17 > 3:45:20Britain and Korea final. That would be very interesting and very noisy,

3:45:20 > 3:45:26I suspect! We shall see how it works out tomorrow and we will chat with

3:45:26 > 3:45:29you more when we know how things are going against the Canadians

3:45:29 > 3:45:33tomorrow. There are some Olympic stories that are more compelling

3:45:33 > 3:45:37than others. Sadly, that of Elise Christie falls into that category.

3:45:37 > 3:45:43So too does the plight of another skater, actually, many years ago.

3:45:43 > 3:45:47And her story has had those reflecting on the story of Dan

3:45:47 > 3:45:51Johnson. He was a speed skater for the Americans and, like Elise

3:45:51 > 3:45:59Christie, he was a favourite in many events coming into many events. He

3:45:59 > 3:46:02had a history of falls and underachievement, and even tragedy.

3:46:02 > 3:46:06His younger sister passed away on the morning of one of his finals in

3:46:06 > 3:46:101988. When he came to Lillehmammer in 1994, he did not have a single

3:46:10 > 3:46:15medal in three games. This was his eighth and final go at this in the

3:46:15 > 3:46:231000 bidders. -- meters.

3:46:24 > 3:46:25eighth and final go at this in the 1000 bidders. -- meters. Going into

3:46:25 > 3:46:29the 1988 Olympics I wept in there as favourite for the gold in the 500m

3:46:29 > 3:46:35and the 1,000 as well. My sister was diagnosed with leukaemia about a

3:46:35 > 3:46:35year

3:46:35 > 3:46:37diagnosed with leukaemia about a year before the Olympics She passed

3:46:37 > 3:46:44away on the morning of the 500m. COMMENTATOR:He pledged this medal

3:46:44 > 3:46:48to her if he gets the medal. My left skate slipped out from upped meed

3:46:48 > 3:46:51and I fell. COMMENTATOR:He's gone. That is

3:46:51 > 3:46:51tragedy.

3:46:51 > 3:46:54COMMENTATOR:He's gone. That is tragedy. It was certainly one of the

3:46:54 > 3:46:59most difficult days of my life. COMMENTATOR: Jansen a faller in the

3:46:59 > 3:47:03500. He has fallen again. It maybe wasn't meant to be. I never ever

3:47:03 > 3:47:09considered giving up. I had one more chance in the 1000m in 1994. I was

3:47:09 > 3:47:13ready. It worked out. COMMENTATOR:The world record has

3:47:13 > 3:47:17done to Dan Jansen.I set a world record.

3:47:17 > 3:47:20COMMENTATOR:The gold medal to Jansen. It was his last chance in

3:47:20 > 3:47:25his fourth Olympics. You ask yourself, look in 20 years from now

3:47:25 > 3:47:29I want to be able to look back and know there's not anything else I

3:47:29 > 3:47:33could have done to be at my best. If you can answer yes to that question

3:47:33 > 3:47:36for the rest of your life you'll never ever regret.

3:47:36 > 3:47:39for the rest of your life you'll never ever regret. An absolutely

3:47:39 > 3:47:44extraordinary moment. They skated around the ice with his family to

3:47:44 > 3:47:50the skater's waltz. Incredible.

3:47:53 > 3:47:55The official report of the 94 Olympics said of it,

3:47:55 > 3:47:57"At that moment, there were

3:47:57 > 3:47:58no Norwegians, Dutch, Americans or people of other

3:47:58 > 3:48:01nationalities among the spectators, only fans of Dan Jansen."

3:48:01 > 3:48:02So, it ended happily for Jansen.

3:48:02 > 3:48:04And in the precarious world of short track,

3:48:04 > 3:48:11the 1000m is also the distance that represents

3:48:13 > 3:48:16a chance for Elise Christie.

3:48:16 > 3:48:18It's her ninth event in three Games.

3:48:18 > 3:48:20And after a second fall in Pyeongchang and subsequent

3:48:20 > 3:48:22ankle ligament injury, she'd shown real courage to even be

3:48:22 > 3:48:24in the start line today.

3:48:24 > 3:48:27Real guts.

3:48:27 > 3:48:29Christie in Heat 5, with fellow Britons Kathryn Thomson

3:48:29 > 3:48:31and Charlotte Gilmartin also in action.

3:48:31 > 3:48:34and Charlotte Gilmartin also in action.

3:48:34 > 3:48:40COMMENTATOR: Here we go the heats of the Women's 1000m. Kathryn Thomson

3:48:40 > 3:48:49from Great Britain in this one. Look at the line-up. A tough one.

3:49:01 > 3:49:08Kathryn Thomson moves around the outside.

3:49:08 > 3:49:11outside. She knows they will be challenging at the end. She knows

3:49:11 > 3:49:19that's the place where she needs to be.

3:49:19 > 3:49:24be. Kathryn Thomson has to mix it for as long as she can in this race.

3:49:24 > 3:49:27She's the outsider here of these four. She is staying as near to the

3:49:27 > 3:49:31front as she can. Four to go over the line next time. . Is in the

3:49:31 > 3:49:39running here at the moment. Fontana is biding her time in third place.

3:49:39 > 3:49:50Everybody wants to come past. Past. Fontana into first place. Two lapse

3:49:50 > 3:49:58over the line. Maltais in second place. Kooreman third. Kathryn

3:49:58 > 3:50:01Thomson losing touch in the closing stages of the race. This is going to

3:50:01 > 3:50:08form. Kooreman trying to upset the odds. She will battle her way

3:50:08 > 3:50:13through.

3:50:14 > 3:50:18through. Matlais stays on her feet. In fourth place Kathryn Thomson of

3:50:18 > 3:50:24Great Britain. Confirmation of the result of Heat 4. Elise Christie,

3:50:24 > 3:50:28clearly not fully fit. With that ankle damage, picked up in the crash

3:50:28 > 3:50:33in the semi-final of the 1500m the other day. Keen to have a go. If she

3:50:33 > 3:50:35can get through this Heat she will have another couple of days to

3:50:35 > 3:50:45recover. Lara Van Ruijven 12th in the world. Andrea Keszler got a

3:50:45 > 3:50:48European Championship silver last year. Magdalena Warakomska from

3:50:48 > 3:50:56Poland. Away they go. Christie goes down they reach the very first

3:50:56 > 3:51:05corner. Her race was over before it even started. She is still on the

3:51:05 > 3:51:11ground as the race continues. Van Ruijven skates around. The officials

3:51:11 > 3:51:17go across to check on her. The other athletes are coming to a halt. I

3:51:17 > 3:51:22think we will be restarting the race, but whether Elise Christie

3:51:22 > 3:51:27will be able to restart the race, we cannot be sure. Here it is again.

3:51:27 > 3:51:30Shefrments put the toe in the front on the right skate into the ice as

3:51:30 > 3:51:36she goeses in there. Oh, she caught the blade of Keszler. I think she

3:51:36 > 3:51:39caught the blade of Keszler.Yeah. No words for it, really. You see

3:51:39 > 3:51:44there. She clips the back of the blade of Keszler as she goes into

3:51:44 > 3:51:52that bend. They are allowed to restart. Now the question is, do

3:51:52 > 3:51:57they feel that the fall.I think it's over. I think the Olympic Games

3:51:57 > 3:52:00is finally over for Elise Christie. I don't think it is. I think they

3:52:00 > 3:52:05are checking the blades. They are allowed to do this. They are also

3:52:05 > 3:52:10repairing the ice. Just checking the blade there. She is going to go

3:52:10 > 3:52:15again, Elise Christie. She is not finished.

3:52:15 > 3:52:21Away they go. Christie at the back of the field, but at least she

3:52:21 > 3:52:24avoided any trouble. She can get up to speed. I think the start was

3:52:24 > 3:52:27going to be the hardest part for her.Absolutely. Particularly after

3:52:27 > 3:52:32the fall as well. She can't really put any pressure on it. So now it's

3:52:32 > 3:52:37a question of nine laps. Skaters one and two will go through and we are

3:52:37 > 3:52:42hoping and praying for Elise Christie to qualify here.

3:52:42 > 3:52:45Six-and-a-half lapse to go Van Ruijven on the front. Keszler in

3:52:45 > 3:52:51second place. Warakomska of Poland. A fit Elise Christie shouldn't have

3:52:51 > 3:52:56a problem getting through from this heat. The draw has been kind to her

3:52:56 > 3:53:00relatively speaking. But can she get up to full speed? Can she find a way

3:53:00 > 3:53:09through? To finish in the first two here?The last lap time, 9: 7: 5 as

3:53:09 > 3:53:12Christie moves through into third place. One and two to qualify.

3:53:12 > 3:53:16Christie ready to make a challenge here with three laps to go. Van

3:53:16 > 3:53:19Ruijven comes round. Christie has a look on the inside. Just about

3:53:19 > 3:53:24mansion to stay on her feet. Christie sees a gap. Forced out wide

3:53:24 > 3:53:29again. Staying in third place. Van Ruijven two lapse to go. Christie

3:53:29 > 3:53:34will take the long way round. Almost goes into the back of Warakomska.

3:53:34 > 3:53:39Just forcing her way into second place. A battle between Warakomska

3:53:39 > 3:53:44and Christie. Van Ruijven leads with half a lap to go. Christie in

3:53:44 > 3:53:48position to qualify here. Van Ruijven first over the line.

3:53:48 > 3:53:52Christie in second. Warakomska three and Keszler four. At the second

3:53:52 > 3:53:58attempt tempt the race was completed she picked herself up off the ice,

3:53:58 > 3:54:02literally, to have a second go and this time she mansion to get the job

3:54:02 > 3:54:07done. She's through the Heat. Elise Christie, the World Champion, is

3:54:07 > 3:54:12still in.It was quite a physical race. She is carried from the arena.

3:54:12 > 3:54:18At least not on a stretcher this time. Run being repairs for Elise

3:54:18 > 3:54:22Christie. -- running repairs for Elise Christie. We await the judges

3:54:22 > 3:54:28verdict. Chris was involved in the physicality of it.Absolutely.

3:54:28 > 3:54:32Showing the courage this young lady has. Sheer determination. It would

3:54:32 > 3:54:35have been quite easy to turn around and say - OK I will stop. I'm

3:54:35 > 3:54:41injured. That's it.There was Keszler and another incident. This

3:54:41 > 3:54:46is the Keszler. Keszler comes in on to Christie. Doesn't Christie get

3:54:46 > 3:54:49involved with Warakomska as they come around again a little bit.A

3:54:49 > 3:54:53little bit as well. I mean there are two issues. You are not allowed if

3:54:53 > 3:54:56somebody is am coulding up the inside, you are not allowed to

3:54:56 > 3:55:00change lanes to block that skater coming up the inside.Warakomska is

3:55:00 > 3:55:07waiting. On the off chance she can get through here. Looking anxiously

3:55:07 > 3:55:15up at the scoreboard that hangs high above the rink. The review is taking

3:55:15 > 3:55:23place. I'm hoping that it's coming close to reaching a conclusion now.

3:55:23 > 3:55:29So Elise Christie has left the scene of the race, but the result has not

3:55:29 > 3:55:35been confirmed as of yet. The referee has gone across. Yellow

3:55:35 > 3:55:43card, Elise Christie.That's really amazing. I can't believe that

3:55:43 > 3:55:49they've ard awarded her a yellow card. That puts the tin hat on her

3:55:49 > 3:55:54Olympic Games. It's hard to think how it could have got any worse. But

3:55:54 > 3:56:00it just has. Elise Christie is out of the Olympic Games. So let's get

3:56:00 > 3:56:15on with the last of the Heats now. Kim Boutin, Charlotte Gilmartin and

3:56:15 > 3:56:20Saito and Mascitto from Italy. She's on the deck. Nothing to do with

3:56:20 > 3:56:25anything else. They won't stop the race. That's right. If you saw

3:56:25 > 3:56:30yesterday if they fall they sometimes restart the race. In this

3:56:30 > 3:56:34case there was no problem with Coe colliding with another skater. What

3:56:34 > 3:56:38happened with Elise Christie so the starter will not restart the race.

3:56:38 > 3:56:43On paper you would say Boutin most likely to win the heat. Charlotte

3:56:43 > 3:56:46Gilmartin has a chance of going through here. She certainly has. She

3:56:46 > 3:56:50needs to stamp her authority on to this race a little bit. The British

3:56:50 > 3:56:57camp down after what happened to Elise Christie. It's important now

3:56:57 > 3:57:00that Charlotte Gilmartin tucks into that second place and main it is a

3:57:00 > 3:57:05her position.Five to go. Charlotte Gilmartin in second place behind Kym

3:57:05 > 3:57:11Boutin of Canada. Saito and Mascitto she needs to keep behind. Boutin has

3:57:11 > 3:57:16the speed to come out on top in every scenario here.Ittic makes it

3:57:16 > 3:57:24look so easy, Boutin. Two rms a on her back even in the curve -- arms.

3:57:24 > 3:57:27It's important that charm really hangs on to the back of her tail

3:57:27 > 3:57:31now.It will be a big race here for second place. Charlotte Gilmartin

3:57:31 > 3:57:35being put under pressure from Saito of Japan. She is in a fight now here

3:57:35 > 3:57:39to qualify. One lap to go over the line this time. Boutin leads the

3:57:39 > 3:57:44way. Saito of Japan in second place. Charlotte Gilmartin losing a bit of

3:57:44 > 3:57:47ground now. Doesn't look like Gilmartin will be able to close the

3:57:47 > 3:57:54gap. She can't. Kym Boutin wins that Heat. As one would expect. It went

3:57:54 > 3:58:03to form in that sense. Hitomi Saito ranked 22 at this distance had too

3:58:03 > 3:58:05much speed for Charlotte Gilmartin who goes out of the competition at

3:58:05 > 3:58:13the first hurdle. Confirmation comes through quickly.

3:58:13 > 3:58:16through quickly. Kim Boutin and Hitomi Saito going through and

3:58:16 > 3:58:21Charlotte Gilmartin in third place. Charlotte Gilmartin and Elise

3:58:21 > 3:58:25Christie failing to make it through from the heads of the Women's 100m.

3:58:25 > 3:58:30First of all tell us what is going through your mind right now in

3:58:30 > 3:58:30First of all tell us what is going through your mind right now inTo be

3:58:30 > 3:58:37honest, Not much. Of I a few days ago I didn't think I would be

3:58:37 > 3:58:43getting on the ice. I did everything I could to turn it around. I have

3:58:43 > 3:58:53ligament damage in my ankle. Putting a skate on with that is not comfy.

3:58:53 > 3:58:57We did everything we could to turn it around. It wasn't meant to be.If

3:58:57 > 3:59:00it was any other competition, would you have been on that start line

3:59:00 > 3:59:07today?No I would have been off the ice for five or six weeks and

3:59:07 > 3:59:12rehabing I wouldn't have got on as a World Championships I would have

3:59:12 > 3:59:17been told I'm not getting on. They gave me the choice because it's the

3:59:17 > 3:59:21Olympics. The worse could happen is I damage it more. I may well have,

3:59:21 > 3:59:27I've been kicked in it and fallen off the start. It didn't matter. I'd

3:59:27 > 3:59:30trained trained all my life for this. It was everything to me. Yeah,

3:59:30 > 3:59:36it's done.I think everyone watching will think that you have got a hell

3:59:36 > 3:59:43of a lot of guts.Yeah, thanks. I don't know, I just felt I owed it to

3:59:43 > 3:59:47Britain, you know. I really want to get short track out there. It's an

3:59:47 > 3:59:55amazing sport. Obviously at times it does this to you. I've no idea why

3:59:55 > 3:59:58I've got a yellow card. When I watched the race I was kicked on the

3:59:58 > 4:00:04start and fell over. I've never had a yellow card in my life. I barely

4:00:04 > 4:00:13get penalties. I went up the inside. I've no idea. The only thing I think

4:00:13 > 4:00:17of is possibly the referee doesn't think it's safe for me to race with

4:00:17 > 4:00:21my ankle the way it is. He was encouraging me to get off the ice

4:00:21 > 4:00:26after the fall at the start. If that is it, fair enough, you know. I can

4:00:26 > 4:00:30see why he might not want me to race like that. . Might not be the

4:00:30 > 4:00:38safest. Yeah. I think 1,000 people wouldn't have skated with my ankle

4:00:38 > 4:00:44the way it was. I can barely move my knee. I can promise Britain I will

4:00:44 > 4:00:50fight back from this. I will come back for Beijing. Hopefully, I can

4:00:50 > 4:00:56do Britain proud then.Back to Beijing.

4:00:56 > 4:01:00Well, the decision to race was hers. However, the yellow card for

4:01:00 > 4:01:03blocking the path of the Polish skater is frankly adding insult to

4:01:03 > 4:01:07injury. She was carried from the rink, that was always the plan

4:01:07 > 4:01:11because of the injury to her ankle. But she gave that interview shortly

4:01:11 > 4:01:17afterwards. Some newspapers are already calling her the most cursed

4:01:17 > 4:01:19sportsperson in British limbic astray. Pretty sad. But the fact

4:01:19 > 4:01:27that she showed up at all top -- took a lot of guts. It is one of the

4:01:27 > 4:01:32chief headlines on the 11th day of the games.

4:01:32 > 4:01:41Meanwhile, Mica McNeill, lying sixth in the women's Bob. Germany lead

4:01:41 > 4:01:52ahead of the final two runs. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won gold by

4:01:52 > 4:01:55breaking the world record, a breathtaking display. The Canadians

4:01:55 > 4:02:00are now the most successful figure skaters in Olympic history. And

4:02:00 > 4:02:03there was a German clean sweep in the Nordic combined lawn delivered a

4:02:03 > 4:02:09large hill event, overcoming a handicap of more than half a minute

4:02:09 > 4:02:18after the ski jumping to take gold. And France's most successful

4:02:18 > 4:02:26Olympian picked up the fifth gold of his career, Fourcade getting his

4:02:26 > 4:02:30third gold in these games. Incident packed in the relay for the women.

4:02:30 > 4:02:36South Korea taking the gold. Two teams in the capital after final

4:02:36 > 4:02:44were disqualified. That meant the Netherlands got the bronze. And Ziga

4:02:44 > 4:02:49Jeglic has been suspended after testing positive for a banned

4:02:49 > 4:02:52substance.

4:02:53 > 4:02:56When it comes to the school deliver critical of hard knocks, Rowan

4:02:56 > 4:02:59Cheshire knows all about that. It was four years ago in Sochi she was

4:02:59 > 4:03:02all set for the first of her competitions to make a debut. She

4:03:02 > 4:03:09was involved in a training crash. Frankly, the twists and turns of her

4:03:09 > 4:03:17career were very hard to follow thereafter.

4:03:17 > 4:03:20I was feeling really confident about my skiing and my fitness. I was

4:03:20 > 4:03:25going into it really happy. I don't remember the crash actually

4:03:25 > 4:03:30happening. I don't remember the hospital or anything like that. It

4:03:30 > 4:03:35is only in the morning that I actually have any recollection. It

4:03:35 > 4:03:38was something like a compression. When you knock yourself out and

4:03:38 > 4:03:41can't remember it, it is always scary when you don't know what you

4:03:41 > 4:03:44have done, you can't think about how you can fix that. It happening

4:03:44 > 4:03:51again. -- a concussion.That was the first of three con cushions. That

4:03:51 > 4:03:57was in February 20 14. What was the timeline?After that, I went away in

4:03:57 > 4:04:09October, October or September. I ended up hitting my head again.

4:04:09 > 4:04:13ended up hitting my head again. Then again, in the third place. It really

4:04:13 > 4:04:21hit me. It was scary, how I reacted, with my concussion.Did you feel

4:04:21 > 4:04:29yourself changing, in the way that you felt you dealt with situations?

4:04:29 > 4:04:32Yes, normal things, travelling, I would not travel by myself. I

4:04:32 > 4:04:36wouldn't leave the house. It gave me a lot of anxiety to do normal

4:04:36 > 4:04:43things. You get overly emotional about situations you wouldn't

4:04:43 > 4:04:50normally. Not with it, and just not there. A lot of people with

4:04:50 > 4:04:54concussions go through those things. It is kind of tough, mentally, to

4:04:54 > 4:04:58think, why am I feeling like this? I am the only one that is feeling like

4:04:58 > 4:05:02this. It is very hard. It is having a three assurance that you are not

4:05:02 > 4:05:06the only one and it gets better with time. It takes a while to heal

4:05:06 > 4:05:10itself, really. You are still very young. The experiences of the last

4:05:10 > 4:05:17three and a half years, has it changed your enjoyment of skiing? It

4:05:17 > 4:05:22did. It really did. I remember I told my dad I didn't want to do it

4:05:22 > 4:05:28any more. I burst out crying. I was so sad about it. I was, like,

4:05:28 > 4:05:32clearly, I don't want to quit if I am going to be this sad. When you

4:05:32 > 4:05:37have fear of just a tap on your head, it takes away the fun. Finding

4:05:37 > 4:05:43out enjoyment and getting the adrenaline back was a big thing. It

4:05:43 > 4:05:47is there now, it is obvious? Definitely, I am back on the horse

4:05:47 > 4:05:55and enjoying it so much. Mike Crockart looking to Pyeongchang,

4:05:55 > 4:05:58what are your expectations? I really want a medal, that is one of my

4:05:58 > 4:06:06goals. I'm not trying to think about it too much.

4:06:10 > 4:06:15Ben is back, he rode on the half pipe on the snowboard for two games.

4:06:15 > 4:06:18Rowan's story is a reminder of the Tizzard Jeopardy in a lot of what

4:06:18 > 4:06:24you guys do?Absolutely, half pipe has its dangers. Rohan had a massive

4:06:24 > 4:06:29crash in training in Sochi. I was actually first on the scene. We were

4:06:29 > 4:06:34watching them in training, and we had to run up. You do really see the

4:06:34 > 4:06:40consequences then that it can give. She took it on the shoulder. What

4:06:40 > 4:06:49she did over the next four years, going into this Games, she managed

4:06:49 > 4:06:51to get herself together. Her confidence took a big knock, going

4:06:51 > 4:06:56into the next couple of World Cups. She needed to gather a bit of

4:06:56 > 4:07:00momentum, which she did.It must have placed a huge amount of

4:07:00 > 4:07:03pressure on all of you who push the boundaries in sport, when you see

4:07:03 > 4:07:08that happening to a team-mate. How did that affect you?The ski and

4:07:08 > 4:07:12snowboard team trained together. I was on the road with Rowan for quite

4:07:12 > 4:07:18some time. You have to be there for her, you have to encourage her as an

4:07:18 > 4:07:23athlete. Try to take a role where you try to push her, tried to help

4:07:23 > 4:07:29her get back to where she was.She managed to get into the half pipe

4:07:29 > 4:07:33final, a fantastic come back, only 12 did. How would you sum up the

4:07:33 > 4:07:37nature of the differences, the tricks we are going to see from the

4:07:37 > 4:07:42snowboarders, to the free skiers? Is it a different language, times, yes,

4:07:42 > 4:07:49but the nature of tricks?Completely different language, skiers named

4:07:49 > 4:07:52their grabs differently to snowboarders. You have two edges on

4:07:52 > 4:07:56the skis. You get a really good grip going up the walls, compared to

4:07:56 > 4:08:02snowboarders. I think the skiing world is also quite new, compared to

4:08:02 > 4:08:06the snowboard half pipe. You didn't see the skiers entering the half

4:08:06 > 4:08:10pipe until a later stage. But they have really caught up. The amplitude

4:08:10 > 4:08:16is really, really good. I think that they really do showcase the sport

4:08:16 > 4:08:21amazingly well.OK, Rowan qualify for one of the top 12, to get into

4:08:21 > 4:08:26this final. Today we have James Woods, we have Tim Wall would and

4:08:26 > 4:08:32Edley, as fluent and snowboard as they are in skis and which. -- in

4:08:32 > 4:08:33ski language.

4:08:37 > 4:08:42Rowan Cheshire and, sat next to me, the man of the moment from ski slope

4:08:42 > 4:08:49yesterday, James Woods. Good to have you here.Thank you. This is the

4:08:49 > 4:08:57best seat in the house! As we heard earlier on, Rowan battling back from

4:08:57 > 4:09:01that horrendous concussion in Sochi. But she has made it to the Olympics

4:09:01 > 4:09:11and is about to drop in for her first time.Just needs to stay the

4:09:11 > 4:09:18tech side down. Nice alley-oop.Best amplitude we have seen so far. In 2D

4:09:18 > 4:09:34nine. Solid five. Into the seventh. Into the switch alley-oop. Lovely.

4:09:34 > 4:09:41Great first run.Definitely got the most amplitude we have seen so far.

4:09:41 > 4:09:45And she has got nine in there. She has upped the difficulty that we

4:09:45 > 4:09:53have seen from the previous runs. 75.4. She slots in behind the

4:09:53 > 4:09:58Russian.

4:09:58 > 4:10:01Russian.The defending Olympic champion, the three times ex games

4:10:01 > 4:10:06gold medallist. She knows what she is doing, no slouch on ace set of

4:10:06 > 4:10:18skis. Just trying to tick the amplitude box. That is a big thing.

4:10:18 > 4:10:24You're going to see a lot of rotations. Look at that,

4:10:24 > 4:10:28back-to-back sevens. We talked about it at the top, she is ticking the

4:10:28 > 4:10:32amplitude box and highlighted that by going small on the next one. That

4:10:32 > 4:10:39is true. Oh, no!She dropped the back-to-back nines at the bottom.

4:10:39 > 4:10:43One of the most experienced players in this final is the first one to go

4:10:43 > 4:10:47down. I wasn't expecting that.

4:10:47 > 4:10:59Next, Annalisa Drew. The other undisputed powerhouse.

4:10:59 > 4:11:07She is a spinning top, she can generate her own magnetic field.

4:11:13 > 4:11:22That is a massive 900. Back-to-back nines. Putting those nice and high

4:11:22 > 4:11:27up the pipe.

4:11:27 > 4:11:37Looking good, 540. Nice, solid grab. Could she get two more? No, big

4:11:37 > 4:11:44seven to finish.I loved that run, I really like it.For me, that is a

4:11:44 > 4:11:49classic pipe run. She prioritised amplitude over everything else. But

4:11:49 > 4:11:53she was able to get a technicality in there.

4:11:58 > 4:12:01That is a fantastic run from Annalisa Drew. Putting points on the

4:12:01 > 4:12:07board, she has big tricks she will be able to drop in the final.

4:12:07 > 4:12:18Brita Sigourney is wearing the number

4:12:18 > 4:12:23number one bib for a reason. Coming into this, with some inside

4:12:23 > 4:12:30knowledge on the scene, for me, this is the battle between Brita

4:12:30 > 4:12:34Sigourney for this win.

4:12:34 > 4:12:43She wants this.That alley-oop 440, that is technical difficulty in a

4:12:43 > 4:12:49nutshell.Rotating up the pipe, and travel back down it. A beautiful

4:12:49 > 4:12:57run. I got the shivers then.This

4:12:57 > 4:13:00run. I got the shivers then. This is simmering, turn down the gas!It is

4:13:00 > 4:13:10going to catch.It has already caught, I am too excited. I am a

4:13:10 > 4:13:16newbie, but I am already excited. Look at that, the 390, only pulled

4:13:16 > 4:13:23down by the 89.It is a very difficult thing, judging and the

4:13:23 > 4:13:29points thing. But the essence of it is to love the placings. The score

4:13:29 > 4:13:32is really just a little message, a little communication from the judges

4:13:32 > 4:13:36to the riders more than anything. 89.8, that is telling me that the

4:13:36 > 4:13:42judges are telling Brita that if she gets the grabs she will be well up

4:13:42 > 4:13:54there into the 90s.Barry Martyn

4:13:54 > 4:13:55there into the 90s.Barry Martyn -- Marie Martinod, absolutely slaying

4:13:55 > 4:14:04it. They have been coming of age over the last few decades. Age is

4:14:04 > 4:14:13just a number for Marie Martinod. Silver medallist from Sochi. Skiing

4:14:13 > 4:14:20out her plan.

4:14:22 > 4:14:34She is fizzing. Oh!We said it, she is skiing clever, ticking the boxes

4:14:34 > 4:14:40and doing exactly what the judges want to see.

4:14:40 > 4:14:44Cassie Sharpe, coming out of Vancouver. Her brother got the

4:14:44 > 4:14:51silver at the ex-games.

4:14:52 > 4:15:01The family are very happy to have at least one member in there.

4:15:01 > 4:15:04You can see how clean and confidently she comes through this

4:15:04 > 4:15:10pipe. Take it from us, she is ticking the boxes for the judges.

4:15:10 > 4:15:15Massive truck driver.That was beautiful! Beautiful last trip.You

4:15:15 > 4:15:20could not have rolled a bowling ball any smoother than that. Just hit the

4:15:20 > 4:15:25transition. That was a fantastic run from Cassie

4:15:25 > 4:15:29transition. That was a fantastic run from Cassie. Lots of switches.

4:15:29 > 4:15:34Solid, consistent grabs.

4:15:34 > 4:15:42Amazing skiing. The last woman to drop in the first run of women's ski

4:15:42 > 4:15:46half pipe finals. That is Cassie Sharpe. She takes the lead with a

4:15:46 > 4:15:5394.4.

4:15:53 > 4:16:02Cassie Sharpe chased closely by Marie Martinod.

4:16:03 > 4:16:06Marie Martinod. And Brita Sigourney and Annalisa

4:16:06 > 4:16:13Marie Martinod. And Brita Sigourney and Annalisa Drew. Next in Valeriya

4:16:13 > 4:16:21Demidova.Is that no the the sickest name possible. It doesn't get better

4:16:21 > 4:16:27than that. They are not giving out medals for name. They should be.

4:16:27 > 4:16:32First time I saw her was at the World Cup in New Zealand in 2017,

4:16:32 > 4:16:37really recently. She has got a bright future in this. Watch

4:16:37 > 4:16:43hereticcle skiing through the middle of the pipe. Enjoy tricks. Watch how

4:16:43 > 4:16:47solid and smooth it is.You need to have brill yanlt edge control.

4:16:47 > 4:16:53Absolutely.To drive and get the power to launch out of the pipe.

4:16:53 > 4:16:59Yesterday Murray was talking about landing. They call it in the pipe

4:16:59 > 4:17:03world, face the judges. You don't want to land facing the judges. You

4:17:03 > 4:17:07want to land pointing at the next wall. Technically, really nice. Just

4:17:07 > 4:17:1617 years of age as well. This is beautiful, clean, tech, skiing. She

4:17:16 > 4:17:21is lacking

4:17:22 > 4:17:31is lacking the aplitude.That's really nice.Fifth place. 80.6.

4:17:31 > 4:17:37Rewarded for good, clean looking skiing.

4:17:38 > 4:17:41skiing. Rowan Cheshire of Great Britain. She's done so much getting

4:17:41 > 4:17:50here. We keep talking about that. Can I say she's a badass. I be

4:17:50 > 4:17:58proibly can't. You just did. I learnt to ski at Stoke dry slope

4:17:58 > 4:18:02where she learnt to ski.Did you? Yeah.

4:18:05 > 4:18:14Beautiful.Come on Rowan. This run is flawless so far. Every single

4:18:14 > 4:18:20grab, even on that nine. You could see coming out of the #00 on her

4:18:20 > 4:18:25third hit, going into that 540 she had the scuff on the bottom.

4:18:25 > 4:18:33Unfortunate she's gone down. A less easy way of spinning.

4:18:34 > 4:18:43easy way of spinning.Next in Maddie Bowman.

4:18:45 > 4:18:47Bowman. She Bowman. Bowman.

4:18:49 > 4:18:58Took a gold in the halfpipe under the

4:19:02 > 4:19:03the floodlights in Aspen if a win can help you through this, that's

4:19:03 > 4:19:10it.Landing flat. Did well to keep it going and get out into the switch

4:19:10 > 4:19:19seven.Yeah. She managed to back that up with the right five, left

4:19:19 > 4:19:24nine into the right. No, no!Oh, no. Are you joking. That is a

4:19:24 > 4:19:30disappointment. That is huge, huge pressure going into the third run.

4:19:30 > 4:19:35That run was really, really good. Her mum down in the finish area

4:19:35 > 4:19:42there. So distraught for her. That run is so close. She can touch it.

4:19:42 > 4:19:56My goodness. The run that got a gold at X Games.

4:19:59 > 4:20:04Let us see how this first 900. I was comparing Rowan's to hers. Nice and

4:20:04 > 4:20:09big. She holds it together. Over rotation. Holding it down. She put

4:20:09 > 4:20:14in a back-to-back.How did she get away with that. Leaving a ski on the

4:20:14 > 4:20:22deck. After everything we have said. She took a a bit of the deck through

4:20:22 > 4:20:28it. Not affecting her run.The speed is there.Phenomenal.Wow. 10: 80 to

4:20:28 > 4:20:35finish.First spin we have seen over 900.ItThat was huge. That was a

4:20:35 > 4:20:43fantastic show ofRecovery. Recovery, courage.

4:20:43 > 4:20:49Recovery, courage.Oh, my goodness. You said that, that big chunk of

4:20:49 > 4:20:58blue lip being pulled down...Into this. How do you keep your speed up

4:20:58 > 4:21:05after that?I don't know.

4:21:07 > 4:21:11after that?I don't know.That score is... You can hear her saying. She

4:21:11 > 4:21:17did hit the deck. Got punished just then for that deck.

4:21:30 > 4:21:35Lovely style on the first hit. Starting to up the technicality with

4:21:35 > 4:21:38the second. You can see how confident she is feeling after

4:21:38 > 4:21:46landing that first round and getting a big score. The speed is there.

4:21:46 > 4:21:58Final hit for her. To 10. Yes, she lands the 10.Wow.The 33-year-old,

4:21:58 > 4:22:06mother of one absolutely destroying it here at Phoenix Park. Wow. She

4:22:06 > 4:22:15has backed the judges into a serious corner.

4:22:15 > 4:22:20corner.My goodness. Not the improvement.I thought it would be

4:22:20 > 4:22:29more than that.I thought it would be more too.

4:22:29 > 4:22:33be more too. The judges are not giving themselves room to put

4:22:33 > 4:22:36someone in between Marie's two runs. That is a dangerous place to be in

4:22:36 > 4:22:43really. That's hard.Cassie is running the game right now. She's

4:22:43 > 4:22:49the skiers skier. The favourite to win. She's in the lead. She will

4:22:49 > 4:22:52feel seriously good. Two more runs to do some business.Penultimate

4:22:52 > 4:22:58run. She's already in the lead. Big spin first hit.Solid grab on that

4:22:58 > 4:23:06900. Has her legs turned on. Into the flare. How relaxed was that.360

4:23:06 > 4:23:14switch. Down the pipe, 360. Now, needs to... There is the truck

4:23:14 > 4:23:22driver. Really nice. Finally, funning with a bang. Oh my days.

4:23:22 > 4:23:29Really talking. A 10 to finish. Everything in between was big and

4:23:29 > 4:23:35stylish. Cassie landed the run she came here and wanted in her dreams,

4:23:35 > 4:23:43I think. The best run she had done. Cassiebooted herself out of top

4:23:43 > 4:23:54place, I reckon. Straight through the net. 95.8. On the budser. She

4:23:54 > 4:24:02has put it out of reach of everybody else there. There are the standings

4:24:02 > 4:24:13after run two.

4:24:17 > 4:24:20Rowan Cheshire from Great Britain drops in for her third and final

4:24:20 > 4:24:28run. Sat in seventh position. She has the tools to improve. She will

4:24:28 > 4:24:33have the third run nerves after missing that second run. Started off

4:24:33 > 4:24:40nice and smooth. No, no, no! .She's fallen on the left nine on the third

4:24:40 > 4:24:45hit. She WAPPed out the nine on the second hit for the alley-oop. She

4:24:45 > 4:24:53had skilled scaled it back.

4:24:57 > 4:25:04had skilled scaled it back. Next in Maddie Bowman. On the form she has,

4:25:04 > 4:25:08she could move up the rankings considerably. She needs to lay-down

4:25:08 > 4:25:18a run. She dropped the first two. Yeah. It's all there.

4:25:18 > 4:25:26Yeah. It's all there. Big air to start things off. Huge 540. Tail

4:25:26 > 4:25:44into 720. Switch 17.Here it is.The 900.Come on. Do it, do it.Oh, no!

4:25:44 > 4:25:48You are kidding. What is a shame.I thought she was going to lay. It I

4:25:48 > 4:25:55thought she was going to let it go after the 9.The defending Olympic

4:25:55 > 4:26:08champion crashing out in the finals, all three runs.

4:26:14 > 4:26:22That has left the standings wide open for the rest of the results.

4:26:22 > 4:26:26Maddie Bowman is a favourite. Look how aggressive she is riding through

4:26:26 > 4:26:29this halfpipe. If you are not aggressive it will chew you up and

4:26:29 > 4:26:34spit you out as we said in the past. She's attacking this. She is. Solid

4:26:34 > 4:26:43540. Last trick here now. 20 just. Just gets it round at the top. Gets

4:26:43 > 4:26:48those rear tips of the skis in over the lip shech puts it down. Awave

4:26:48 > 4:26:57and a smile from her.What it does mean, I had a look with Maddie

4:26:57 > 4:27:09Bowman falling, Rowan Cheshire is guaranteed seventh place. Oh!82.2.

4:27:09 > 4:27:16Ayana improving her score. The last four riders to drop are the four top

4:27:16 > 4:27:22riders.Annalisa Drew outside the medals. Can she pull it out of the

4:27:22 > 4:27:27bag and lay-down a score worthy of some metal?Goodness that was a

4:27:27 > 4:27:31massive 900 on the first. She needs the run of her life to upset the

4:27:31 > 4:27:40apple cart. So far it's looking like that. Beautiful alley-oop. To the

4:27:40 > 4:27:44five. Calming things down. A gentle pause between the technicality we

4:27:44 > 4:27:49will see at the bottom here.We need the fireworks here. Wow. Wow, that

4:27:49 > 4:27:55was clean. I'm so glad I dipped my vision out of the window then to see

4:27:55 > 4:28:00that last landing. Ladies and gentlemen, that was so clean. Wow.

4:28:00 > 4:28:04Annalisa Drew regardless of score and ranking she can be incredibly

4:28:04 > 4:28:10proud of three runs in the bag in the Olympic final. That is a huge,

4:28:10 > 4:28:15huge attribute to her skiing. The judges will be staring this run down

4:28:15 > 4:28:23and comparing it exactly against Brita Sigourney's run.Annalisa

4:28:23 > 4:28:36Drew, the American was on an 86. 8. # 0.8. She has a point clear. She is

4:28:36 > 4:28:48in the medals for now. -- 90.8. Next is Brita who she dumped out of

4:28:48 > 4:28:54bronze position. Could be anIt awkward flight home. Knocked her

4:28:54 > 4:28:59fella country woman out of the medals. Brita Sigourney has it all

4:28:59 > 4:29:04to do.This is when you find out what you are made of. You thought

4:29:04 > 4:29:10you had a medal, got that close. Now you have to lay-down a huge clean

4:29:10 > 4:29:19run, arguably the best run of her life under pressure. She has got the

4:29:19 > 4:29:22technical difficulty, the confidence and the grabs and everything to play

4:29:22 > 4:29:30with it. Brita is the only person in this field that can challenge Cassie

4:29:30 > 4:29:36Sharpe. She has gone to fourth place. How she will deal with that

4:29:36 > 4:29:39will be wicked interesting. Distracted or motivation. Let's find

4:29:39 > 4:29:44out.Huge alley-oop.Confident going into this. Biggest air of the day,

4:29:44 > 4:29:52was it is?She made a 900 look like a 500.She got that grab. That is

4:29:52 > 4:29:56what her last run lacked. That is why she was down on the points

4:29:56 > 4:30:05before.Needs the fireworks here.So clean.Oh, my.Last 180. Rides out.

4:30:05 > 4:30:08They are hugging at the bottom. I don't know where the judges go with

4:30:08 > 4:30:14this.For me, I think...She's in those medals, man. No way about it.

4:30:14 > 4:30:23Absolutely. But I don't, I think it's better than Martinod's run. It

4:30:23 > 4:30:28was bigger. She had the style and cleanliness. The grab on that as

4:30:28 > 4:30:32well. That is the battle we came to see. I'm sorry everybody else. This

4:30:32 > 4:30:39is the battle we came to see. We came to see the rock star this is is

4:30:39 > 4:30:45the Cassi Sharpe versus Brita Sigourney.You don't want anyone on

4:30:45 > 4:30:52a victory lap.Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness.Bronze.Dodging a huge

4:30:52 > 4:30:57you will aboutlet. That was an amazing run from Marie. The judges

4:30:57 > 4:31:02are seeing things we can't see on the stream we are getting. Brita

4:31:02 > 4:31:06swift a few grabs. Not holding them correctly. That is what the judges

4:31:06 > 4:31:12punished her for, to be

4:31:13 > 4:31:17Are we going to see the defending silver medallist, from Le Plan in

4:31:17 > 4:31:24France? Marine Monta

4:31:24 > 4:31:31she needs the run of her life here. Gold fever in the ski half pipe

4:31:31 > 4:31:37finals. Marie Martinod is on the hunt.

4:31:39 > 4:31:48Right side five. The nine was so well measured. Really clean. She has

4:31:48 > 4:31:53gone!

4:31:53 > 4:32:01gone!You don't need to be a rocket surgeon to do the maths on that one.

4:32:01 > 4:32:05So, Marie Martinod raising her hands, celebrating the silver. At

4:32:05 > 4:32:13the top of the pipe, Cassie Sharpe gives her coach a high five and gets

4:32:13 > 4:32:21a gold. The idea of a gold medal, she lets that subtle. Back up to the

4:32:21 > 4:32:27Sharpe. Her brother missed out on a snowboard slopestyle team. Now

4:32:27 > 4:32:34Cassie Sharpe comes home with a gold. What a fantastic day for the

4:32:34 > 4:32:44family and Canada, following up on the silver in the women's slope.

4:32:44 > 4:32:52They got the bronze and silver. She lets it go!It is almost relief,

4:32:52 > 4:32:59isn't it? The pressure is gone. You talk about fighting against

4:32:59 > 4:33:08yourself. My goodness! She is in the zone. Beautiful. That is going at

4:33:08 > 4:33:11the top of the run. I guarantee you, before the end of the season she

4:33:11 > 4:33:15will be throwing that at the top of the run. It is so strong. Cassie

4:33:15 > 4:33:23Sharpe, undoubtedly, emphatically taking gold in the women's ski half

4:33:23 > 4:33:30pipe finals. I fantastic battle.

4:33:30 > 4:33:35A performance that was head and shoulders above the rest. Marie

4:33:35 > 4:33:39Martinod brings out her daughter. The 33-year-old mother of one,

4:33:39 > 4:33:45taking the silver medal.

4:33:45 > 4:33:48taking the silver medal. In first place, Cassie Sharpe. Fantastic

4:33:48 > 4:33:55performance from the Canadian.

4:33:56 > 4:34:03You are so involved! There are tears creeping into my eyes, seeing her

4:34:03 > 4:34:09with her child. That is amazing. Imagine being carried out by your

4:34:09 > 4:34:13mum on to the Olympic podium. If you are ever going to be inspired to

4:34:13 > 4:34:19chase a medal, that is it.Mothers around the world celebrating Marie

4:34:19 > 4:34:24Martinod's silver. Brita Sigourney, the American, in bronze. Cassie

4:34:24 > 4:34:30Sharpe with the gold.

4:34:30 > 4:34:34Olympic champion, how does that feel?Incredible! It doesn't quite

4:34:34 > 4:34:39feel real, but I put a whole bunch of work into getting here. It feels

4:34:39 > 4:34:43good.Fair to say that you have been bossing it since Oslo, the X-Games,

4:34:43 > 4:34:50how much pressure where you and coming into the Allen Rix? -- how

4:34:50 > 4:34:56much pressure were you under, coming into the Olympics?I was under

4:34:56 > 4:35:01pressure, but I spent time preparing for it, getting consistent. I am

4:35:01 > 4:35:06really thankful I did the work beforehand.Rowan, huge

4:35:06 > 4:35:11congratulations. Seventh place, you must be thrilled?I am over the

4:35:11 > 4:35:15moon, it was a gold mine to reach the finals, I had minimal training.

4:35:15 > 4:35:19Over the moon to get to the finals. To put down a run, sometimes, my

4:35:19 > 4:35:26nerves get to me and it is the first one when I tend to fall. It was good

4:35:26 > 4:35:31to land a good run. I am really happy.That is a huge step by Rowan

4:35:31 > 4:35:35Cheshire. Well done to her. Cassie Sharpe, you have got to say, you

4:35:35 > 4:35:41really wanted a Chloe Kim and Shaun White moment, didn't it? It was on

4:35:41 > 4:35:46the second run. Some watching it might have sensed an anti-climax,

4:35:46 > 4:35:51but the second run really nailed it for her? They introduced the 3-run

4:35:51 > 4:35:58final. It really does mix it up a little bit. Sometimes, you could get

4:35:58 > 4:36:02it on your first run, and you have two more to go. But she is so good

4:36:02 > 4:36:07in the pipe. She is so smooth. She executes her tricks absolutely

4:36:07 > 4:36:14perfectly. Lovely to see the 900s, and she got the 1080 as well. This

4:36:14 > 4:36:18is skiing at its finest. I think that Cassie is going to improve more

4:36:18 > 4:36:24and more this season. I could almost say that she has not quite peaked in

4:36:24 > 4:36:31her career, even at the Olympics. She has got far to go.

4:36:31 > 4:36:34Many amateur skiers like myself would have no problems in going

4:36:34 > 4:36:37backwards, but it is trying to go backwards that is the problem, we

4:36:37 > 4:36:41just end up doing it for the wrong reasons. It does put you in mind of

4:36:41 > 4:36:44the fact that in snowboarding you are really working with one edge at

4:36:44 > 4:36:50a time. In skiing, you are working with two at a time. Two skis, two

4:36:50 > 4:36:56polls, there are more moving parts that can go wrong?Absolutely. I

4:36:56 > 4:37:02think skiers, they can come out of their skis if they land too heavy.

4:37:02 > 4:37:08Really, they have got it a lot harder than us snowboarders. For

4:37:08 > 4:37:16them to handle two skis, two poles, taking them down is hard work. And

4:37:16 > 4:37:21grabbing with them, how does that work? Some of them have got gloves

4:37:21 > 4:37:26were the poles clip into their glove, they can open their grasp a

4:37:26 > 4:37:34little bit to reach down and grab. You find it does help. The poles are

4:37:34 > 4:37:37shorter as well. They don't have to throw them around too much. But it

4:37:37 > 4:37:43does help.We have seen the half pipe since 1988 for snowboarders.

4:37:43 > 4:37:48How much more is to come in free skiing? It is not in its infancy,

4:37:48 > 4:37:53but in Olympic terms it is fairly new?Still a really new sport. It

4:37:53 > 4:38:00only got introduced in the last Olympics in 2014. It has far to go.

4:38:00 > 4:38:07The ladies and the man, they have a lot of tricks to get done, compared

4:38:07 > 4:38:10to the snowboarders, that seemed to be a little bit more established.

4:38:10 > 4:38:15Shall we look at the men? It was qualifying, and in fact we have got

4:38:15 > 4:38:21three British skiers in this one. Also look out for the Kiwi brothers,

4:38:21 > 4:38:26making it a family affair for New Zealand.

4:38:26 > 4:38:31Peter Speight, the 28-year-old. He got a fourth in China, back in

4:38:31 > 4:38:41December. He has some good form coming into this. Look at the focus.

4:38:41 > 4:38:49Come on, the lad from Sheffield. He has clipped the deck. I don't think

4:38:49 > 4:38:57there was any wind, was there??

4:39:00 > 4:39:05Going marginally across the deck area, and he has got a 22 foot fall.

4:39:05 > 4:39:15Back to the top. Yet another heavy hitter. Torin Yater-Wallace.Torin

4:39:15 > 4:39:20has been battling so hard with injuries and more. He has been in

4:39:20 > 4:39:27and out of hospital.He was really ill?Yes, 2015, he nearly died.

4:39:27 > 4:39:32Really!?It's not funny, actually, it is terrible. But he has come

4:39:32 > 4:39:39back, he has a movie out, it is incredible. This boy's story.The

4:39:39 > 4:39:44double 12 at the top, putting him right into the flat. He manages to

4:39:44 > 4:39:51keep his legs turned on. Into the huge, lazy seven Switch 20. A thing

4:39:51 > 4:39:57of beauty. He was eight cameramen out. And he put that right into the

4:39:57 > 4:40:05back pocket of the pipe.A little double 900 at the bottom.That is a

4:40:05 > 4:40:14huge thing for the judges. Using the entirety of the pipe.

4:40:15 > 4:40:2389.6. It is the lead for Torin Yater-Wallace.

4:40:27 > 4:40:31David Wise, the defending champion. His form goes up and down a little

4:40:31 > 4:40:36bit. Of course, his form is peaking perfectly right here.Absolutely,

4:40:36 > 4:40:40the best shout on the way into the pipe. Hello, world!

4:40:44 > 4:40:47He is incredibly consistent. His form goes up and down. He took a

4:40:47 > 4:40:51couple of years when he was mellow in the half pipe, but results wise

4:40:51 > 4:40:57he has always been there, unstoppable form.A few weeks ago,

4:40:57 > 4:41:03the X-Games, you saw him unveil all of the double corks! Again, as you

4:41:03 > 4:41:09said, mistakes from the big guns. David Wise, the double cork has cost

4:41:09 > 4:41:14him.Someone that can perform under pressure is David Wise, and he will

4:41:14 > 4:41:16need to do that.

4:41:20 > 4:41:28Kevin Rolland, the Frenchman, so, so dominant.Has he dropped off in the

4:41:28 > 4:41:34last few years?Honestly? No. Kevin has been at that top level. He has

4:41:34 > 4:41:38been engineering tricks. He has been dialling, and he can perform right

4:41:38 > 4:41:42now. This is what he is doing, making sure his run has every single

4:41:42 > 4:41:49base to play in the final, should he make it there.A lot of people

4:41:49 > 4:41:56landing flat on the right-hand wall. I have only heard really good

4:41:56 > 4:41:59reports on this half pipe from the riders, skiers and snowboarders, I

4:41:59 > 4:42:07can only imagine it is over arousal, a bit of anxiety. But look, it is

4:42:07 > 4:42:14not a thing for Kevin, but he manages to power it out.Gingerly,

4:42:14 > 4:42:18he has done something? It looks like his left hip, that is what he was

4:42:18 > 4:42:28pushing on. I don't know if it was during the run.

4:42:31 > 4:42:36Kevin Rolland moves into second position, just ahead of Beau-James

4:42:36 > 4:42:42Wells.

4:42:42 > 4:42:49I tell you what, he is in a lot of pain.

4:42:49 > 4:42:59Alex Ferreira. The youngster, from Aspen, Colorado. He plied his trade

4:42:59 > 4:43:06up there. Learned from the very best. Sell that the X-Games a few

4:43:06 > 4:43:13weeks ago. Astronomical! -- Silver at the X-Games. The first one, so

4:43:13 > 4:43:22big, into the seven, landing backwards. Into the switch.

4:43:22 > 4:43:27backwards. Into the switch. The 1262 the moon, he had his legs turned on.

4:43:27 > 4:43:31What a run.Reports about consistency. We mention it with a

4:43:31 > 4:43:36lot of these guys, Alex Pereira has come... Well, he is a veteran now,

4:43:36 > 4:43:45still young, but he came out of nowhere in Aspen. Torin came first,

4:43:45 > 4:43:50and Alex was nipping at his heels. All of a sudden, he is a stable in

4:43:50 > 4:43:55all of these competitions. -- stable.

4:43:58 > 4:44:0592.6. The kid who sat in...Can I also say...He sat in Torin

4:44:05 > 4:44:09Yater-Wallace's shadow for so long and he has stepped out of it at the

4:44:09 > 4:44:12Olympics, moving ahead of his mate it one of the most pressurised

4:44:12 > 4:44:16modifications we have seen in a while.Before we came on air, I

4:44:16 > 4:44:20asked James Woods who he thought was good to take the win, and he said

4:44:20 > 4:44:27Alex Pereira.Byron Wells.You're going to see everything from him.

4:44:27 > 4:44:30Dropping into the pipe. He takes none of the speed that anybody else

4:44:30 > 4:44:40does. He starts off switch. He is one of the most talented skiers, in

4:44:40 > 4:44:43my opinion, in the whole world. Unfortunately, he spends a lot of

4:44:43 > 4:44:47time injured. He can get off the sofa and into a run like this.

4:44:47 > 4:44:56Massive, so far. The alley-oop, the flat five at the end. A work of art.

4:44:56 > 4:45:03It is art. This is exactly what I am talking about. This is art. Byron

4:45:03 > 4:45:09putting on a show for all of us.I would like to see this kind of

4:45:09 > 4:45:12skiing getting rewarded. He had less hits than anybody else, but he used

4:45:12 > 4:45:21the entire pipe, and that is a big thing with the judges.Albert Shia

4:45:21 > 4:45:26if his beard has not sold it for you, he is also a helicopter pirate.

4:45:26 > 4:45:27-- helicopter pilot.

4:45:31 > 4:45:38A big unit, but he has got some style and power in the pipe.

4:45:38 > 4:45:43A pocket rocket in the half pipe, he has come out of nowhere. He is

4:45:43 > 4:45:46incredibly passionate about it and he will go absolutely all-out, to

4:45:46 > 4:45:50put on the best show, and hopefully get himself into the finals. Look

4:45:50 > 4:45:55for him going big. Very innovative, double seat belt wrapped to start

4:45:55 > 4:46:00things out.

4:46:00 > 4:46:04Straight to the flats. This is where he went really deep. He ises ming

4:46:04 > 4:46:08the wall. He still hasn't touched down yet. All of that impact. 22

4:46:08 > 4:46:13feet of wall. However high he was out of it, at least 10, 12 feet, I

4:46:13 > 4:46:19would say.

4:46:19 > 4:46:27would say. The last skier to drop in this the first

4:46:29 > 4:46:34this the first run of ??CAPNE qualification.

4:46:35 > 4:46:37qualification.True gentleman we love him. He has been working really

4:46:37 > 4:46:46hard at this.If you watch the Ski Sunday opening title you will see

4:46:46 > 4:46:51him in the halfpipe.Really? It's a difficult place to be dropping in

4:46:51 > 4:46:56last. He has had to watch the entire competition going down. A long time

4:46:56 > 4:47:00since his last practice run. He will be feeling. It I'm sure he will put

4:47:00 > 4:47:04down a fallify case we know he can do. 900 to start thicks off. First

4:47:04 > 4:47:09of the two double flares that Murray is capable of. There is the right

4:47:09 > 4:47:16side. 20. Tail grab.Yes.Come on, Murray. Hold it together, bud. The

4:47:16 > 4:47:23other double. To the other side. Stand-up.Yes.He nailed it, didn't

4:47:23 > 4:47:28he?Yeah.When he dropped in it's the most relaxed I've seen him in

4:47:28 > 4:47:33the pipe. He looked absolutely settled. It was really, really nice.

4:47:33 > 4:47:37That last hit.Held on to this, didn't he?Yeah. He held on to it

4:47:37 > 4:47:42rather than being in the driving seat. That little wiggle to squeak

4:47:42 > 4:47:46his skis base down. It will pinch him. He completed that run. A run he

4:47:46 > 4:47:58should be really happy with.At the moment, the bubble score for 12th

4:47:59 > 4:48:05place is the Austrian Ladner. That is within his reach.I think so.66,

4:48:05 > 4:48:10ninth place for Murray Buchan. A little smile creeping over his face

4:48:10 > 4:48:17there. He has loads of room to go. He tidies up that run it's mid to

4:48:17 > 4:48:22high 70s.

4:48:23 > 4:48:30high 70s. Back up at the top, Peter Speight is ready.Come on, Pete.

4:48:30 > 4:48:40Learnt on the dry slope halfpipe of your hometown, Sheffield.Yeah.

4:48:40 > 4:48:43your hometown, Sheffield.Yeah. Got the 900 in the bag. Back-to-back

4:48:43 > 4:48:49900s.Landing a little bit flat. He's pulled it out and kept the

4:48:49 > 4:48:52momentum into that flare. He will be feeling good. He's all the way into

4:48:52 > 4:48:58his run. Into his rhythm, got his groove on.Building good speed for

4:48:58 > 4:49:04theses last hits.Japan, poking it out.Stoked with that. Put a run

4:49:04 > 4:49:08down. We have said it time and time again, all you want to do is just

4:49:08 > 4:49:12come and put your run down. It doesn't matter really what happens.

4:49:12 > 4:49:21It's such a big build-up to get to these Games. Into the 720. He misses

4:49:21 > 4:49:29the mute. That will cost him with the judges. 64.6 at the moment.

4:49:29 > 4:49:36Solid.Good enough for 11th place. He did a fantastic first run.

4:49:36 > 4:49:41Amazing. Looking very, very pretty. He has so much more to give. Like

4:49:41 > 4:49:46the other top guys, Beau. Interesting. A long time before the

4:49:46 > 4:49:52final drops. A couple more days. Interesting to see whether he use it

4:49:52 > 4:50:00is for a practice run or amp up his score.On 86.

4:50:02 > 4:50:04score.On 86. 2, currently in fifth place. Did you hear that when he

4:50:04 > 4:50:09took off. He's enjoying this run. I think he will do the run that he

4:50:09 > 4:50:18knows he will do incredibly well. Double 12 into big cork outed 540.

4:50:18 > 4:50:23Double flare. We saw that from Murray, the double flae previously.

4:50:23 > 4:50:31Wow. Two in the bag. That is the performance that Beau was after. Two

4:50:31 > 4:50:35solid runnings, calm, ical Kew lated and perfectly executed. That will

4:50:35 > 4:50:40give him a big old boost of confidence.So he's improved. Very

4:50:40 > 4:50:45nicely. 88.

4:50:45 > 4:50:51nicely. 88. 2 for Beau-James Wells. As all eyes go back to the top for

4:50:51 > 4:51:02Aaron Blunck. X Games gold medals in the pipe 2017. No stranger to the

4:51:02 > 4:51:09podium.Absolutely not. This is some pressure right now. Second run.

4:51:09 > 4:51:13Halfway through the pack. He has to land his next run to get his place

4:51:13 > 4:51:23in the final.With it all to do, from Colorado.Completely blind

4:51:23 > 4:51:29switch double nine. How he does that I do not know. To switch right side

4:51:29 > 4:51:34down pipe seven. Not as big as he normally goes.No.Bring it round,

4:51:34 > 4:51:37Aaron Blunck.Yes.Thank goodness. It wouldn't be a final without Aaron

4:51:37 > 4:51:43Blunck.No, it would not. We can all breathe again now. We want to see

4:51:43 > 4:51:49the best guys in the final. We want to see these big trucks we know

4:51:49 > 4:51:52these guy can do in the final. Amazing back-to-back doublings.

4:51:52 > 4:51:55We haven't seen it there. For me, Aaron Blunck has come out and

4:51:55 > 4:52:01really, really turned it on.

4:52:02 > 4:52:15really, really turned it on.94.4. Zero to hero. From 12th spot to 1st.

4:52:18 > 4:52:26He always leaves it out there. He does. He goes for it all out. Didn't

4:52:26 > 4:52:33quite get the grab he did on the first run. The 720, he's managed to

4:52:33 > 4:52:40hold on to. It's not the run that he wanted.No.Such a shame. A bit of

4:52:40 > 4:52:44wind on the second hit pushing him back in the middle of the pipe. A

4:52:44 > 4:52:49big, big pop. Potentially nerves or jitters that will push him

4:52:49 > 4:52:55off-the-wall. You know, anxiety a little bit.Back up to the top of

4:52:55 > 4:53:01the pipe for the final skier to drop in. It is Great Britain's Murray

4:53:01 > 4:53:08Buchan. 66 on the first run. Currently sat in 14th place. Well

4:53:08 > 4:53:17within his grasp is a finals Berthe. In 12th place at the moment is

4:53:17 > 4:53:22Andreas Gohl. If he can tidy up that run a little bit he will make the

4:53:22 > 4:53:29top 12.Come on. Come on Murray Buchan. Come on Murray. The rest of

4:53:29 > 4:53:32his first run was absolutely beautiful. Nice left side 900 tail

4:53:32 > 4:53:37grab to start things off. Right side 540. Going big and holding it

4:53:37 > 4:53:44strong. We saw Brendan come unstuck. First of his double flares to the

4:53:44 > 4:53:48left, right side, 720 tail grab. Very clean, very within Murray's

4:53:48 > 4:53:54ability. Switch right down to pipe. 20. Into his second, yes Murray. Two

4:53:54 > 4:54:00double flares. Better than run one. Way cleaner. It absolutely was. It

4:54:00 > 4:54:07was better than run one. There is Izzy. It was better than run one.

4:54:07 > 4:54:18Was it better than Andreas' run?He has to improve by 2.7 to make the

4:54:18 > 4:54:25finals here. Oh. Life can be so cruel. Come on, Murray.

4:54:25 > 4:54:32Oh! They have punished him for the missed grabs on that double. That is

4:54:32 > 4:54:38such a shame for Murray. Two out of two killer, killer pipe runs. To the

4:54:38 > 4:54:43top of his ability. He walks away with 14th at the Olympic Winter

4:54:43 > 4:54:48Games. Confirmation of the results here: The Americans in the top three

4:54:48 > 4:54:58spots. Two Kiwis, brothers.

4:54:58 > 4:54:59spots. Two Kiwis, brothers. Murray Buchan in 14th

4:54:59 > 4:55:02spots. Two Kiwis, brothers. Murray Buchan in 14th place. You came this

4:55:02 > 4:55:05close. Talk us through the qualifying.To be honest, I thought

4:55:05 > 4:55:09I skied quite good. I put down a good run. I was happy with it. The

4:55:09 > 4:55:14score came in I thought I it was slightly low. It could have gone

4:55:14 > 4:55:17either way. My second run I thought was better. I thought my landings

4:55:17 > 4:55:22were cleaner. Some of my grabs were better. On my right double my grab

4:55:22 > 4:55:25wasn't great. I'm quite disappointed that I came so close and didn't make

4:55:25 > 4:55:32the cut.It was very close indeed. That final of the ski pipe on

4:55:32 > 4:55:36Thursday without the three British skiers. Albeit that the defending

4:55:36 > 4:55:40champion Wise woos was down in eighth position. Ben you reckon he

4:55:40 > 4:55:45is the man to watch in this final. Why, what do you think he has that

4:55:45 > 4:55:49the others don't? I know that David has a.

4:55:49 > 4:55:53Better run in him already. Maybe he was holding back a little bit. I'm

4:55:53 > 4:55:57not so sure. The back-to-back double 12 is certainly something that he's

4:55:57 > 4:56:01definitely got in the bag that you might see tomorrow. Who knows. But

4:56:01 > 4:56:06all I do know is that I can see that he's held back quite a bit. That's

4:56:06 > 4:56:08interesting to see because that doesn't look like he's held much

4:56:08 > 4:56:14there. It was extraordinary, isn't it? The height they are getting in

4:56:14 > 4:56:18the pipe itself is really beautiful to watch, isn't it?Yes, the skiers

4:56:18 > 4:56:24can generate so much speed, compared to us snowboarders. They drop in far

4:56:24 > 4:56:28different to what we are doing. As soon as they get into the halfpipe

4:56:28 > 4:56:33on their edges, they seem to accelerate. Compared to what we are

4:56:33 > 4:56:35like. We have to pump the transitions.We

4:56:35 > 4:56:40have to big up the Kiwis. We talked about the Wells brotherses they are

4:56:40 > 4:56:48in fourth and fifth position. Very impressive indeed from Byron wells,

4:56:48 > 4:56:54unusual getting into the pipe.He does it differently. Straight into

4:56:54 > 4:56:57this witch Ali woop double. The judges will look for a variety, for

4:56:57 > 4:57:02difference. Anything that is quite unique. I think they have rewarded

4:57:02 > 4:57:09him very well. Byron is a character as well in the ski world. He loved

4:57:09 > 4:57:13his Harley-Davidsons. He's very much a good Kiwi.He is indeed a great

4:57:13 > 4:57:18Kiwi. The Kiwies haven't won any medals since 1992. New Zealand will

4:57:18 > 4:57:22be interested in that. Let us look at the medals table.

4:57:22 > 4:57:26be interested in that. Let us look at the medals table. Norway and

4:57:26 > 4:57:29Germany share the limelight.

4:57:41 > 4:57:47More action on ice and snow at 8.00pm, live from mid need Eve Muir

4:57:47 > 4:57:55read facing Canada. The women's downhill live at 2.00am. Kyle Smith

4:57:55 > 4:57:58on the the against the UA in his last curling

4:57:58 > 4:58:02on the the against the UA in his last curling round robin match. So

4:58:02 > 4:58:06it looks like it is curling and bobsled who could make the

4:58:06 > 4:58:10difference as Great Britain tries to win a record fifth medal in these

4:58:10 > 4:58:15Olympic Games. They have already met their target of four. Everything

4:58:15 > 4:58:19else, frankly, Ben, is Olympic gravy at this point we are hoping to pour

4:58:19 > 4:58:23on some more of it over the next couple of days. In the meantime,

4:58:23 > 4:58:32from Ben and me and the rest of the team, goodbye.
