0:00:39 > 0:00:43Those alive shots of the Olympic Sliding Centre in Pyeongchang, where

0:00:43 > 0:00:47we're heading sharply for the final fourth run of the women's bobsleigh,

0:00:47 > 0:00:52here is what is happened so far.

0:00:56 > 0:01:06This is a good run.Possibly seventh place? Sixth!

0:01:07 > 0:01:11place? Sixth! Kelly Humphries is here and means business.Pretty good

0:01:11 > 0:01:23start. But I think she should be quicker.

0:01:25 > 0:01:31Elana Meyers has had a storming run.

0:01:33 > 0:01:45She likes the speed at the bottom of the track.

0:01:50 > 0:01:59Can they put Kaillie -- pressure on Kaillie Humphries. She has work to

0:01:59 > 0:02:04do it she needs to win the gold medal again. There are real doubts

0:02:04 > 0:02:09that she can get herself another gold medal. The first to flinch will

0:02:09 > 0:02:20lose out on the medal.

0:02:27 > 0:02:43She has lost a tenth already. Elana Meyers Taylor...

0:02:57 > 0:03:02Mariama Jamanka, a track record! Elana Meyers Taylor, she's usually

0:03:02 > 0:03:08very quick. She drops second, but she's still in the mix for gold.

0:03:08 > 0:03:15Kaillie Humphries takes third, just ahead of Stephanie Schneider.

0:03:15 > 0:03:20Slightly ragged, I am afraid, for the British team, and they will

0:03:20 > 0:03:28finish over a second behind, which is not good news for Great Britain.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32Leg run three is done, and from a British point of view it was hard

0:03:32 > 0:03:36not to wince in the middle of the run, wasn't it?It was, just that

0:03:36 > 0:03:50little mistake on the exit is what cost Mica and Mica. They will finish

0:03:50 > 0:03:58eighth, which is still the best we have finished. If she can get it

0:03:58 > 0:04:04right, there are still potential for her to keep the top eight macro. As

0:04:04 > 0:04:11the gaps open up, there is more than 0.1 ahead, with more than one point

0:04:11 > 0:04:19behind two ninths. It gives the British a little bit of a buffer to

0:04:19 > 0:04:22breathe and think, we just have to design a decent run in, and we will

0:04:22 > 0:04:30come down in minimum of eight please. The race at the top looks

0:04:30 > 0:04:34like two for gold, and another couple fighting over bronze. The

0:04:34 > 0:04:38gold medal is literally going to be decided by a blink of an eye,

0:04:38 > 0:04:42whoever touches first between the Germans and the Americans, we have

0:04:42 > 0:04:46seen some really good races towards that point, so we will see. The same

0:04:46 > 0:04:53for bronze, between two. What do athletes do between runs three and

0:04:53 > 0:05:01four, because you cannot touch the sled at all?You have our wonder

0:05:01 > 0:05:07we're you can polish it, but no support staff can work on there.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12Then what do you do, sit in the changing rooms and cry in a corner?

0:05:12 > 0:05:19Yes, get in the mindset, then it is about rebuilding your steps, getting

0:05:19 > 0:05:22through the processes and fire it off the block for the last time.

0:05:22 > 0:05:30Here we go, one more run in the women's bobsleigh, run four. Leitner

0:05:30 > 0:05:45CLARE BALDING:. We're going to be showing...

0:05:45 > 0:05:52Jamaica, the first women's bobsleigh for them. There

0:05:52 > 0:05:55for them. There we have, Mica McNeill and make come in eighth

0:05:55 > 0:05:58place. We have with us the

0:05:58 > 0:06:01McNeill and make come in eighth place. We have with us the best

0:06:01 > 0:06:11women's bobsleigh in Britain, you hope it is beating?I do. I want the

0:06:11 > 0:06:16wrecker to be broken, they can inspire some many people.Amy, it is

0:06:16 > 0:06:22so tight between Germany and the USA at the top?Yes, Germany and the USA

0:06:22 > 0:06:25could easily switch around, then it is a fight for bronze medal between

0:06:25 > 0:06:36Kaillie Humphries and the other American girl, Jamie Greubel Poser.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40The mentally fighting for a medal. And Elana Meyers Taylor is an

0:06:40 > 0:06:44interesting story, we will build up to the leading bobs, but we want to

0:06:44 > 0:06:49show you what has happened already with Nigeria setting the way. Here

0:06:49 > 0:06:51is John Jackson.

0:06:54 > 0:07:04The final run of the day, with Nigeria. Unfortunately for them,

0:07:04 > 0:07:11that is a slow push start. They were pretty ragged in the previous run,

0:07:11 > 0:07:18number three.Yes, and it was this line that caused a lot of issues.

0:07:18 > 0:07:26That is a lot better. I'm still seeing mistakes, though. But she is

0:07:26 > 0:07:30a novice pilots, not much experience, and she really nailed

0:07:30 > 0:07:38this. This is her best run so far, we can still see little mistakes,

0:07:38 > 0:07:46but she has done what she needed to, and she should be happy with this.

0:07:46 > 0:07:51Nigerians have been history makers for themselves and Africa here.

0:07:51 > 0:08:00Despite a slow start, that was the third quickest time.

0:08:00 > 0:08:06third quickest time. -- their third quickest time. She tidied it up, it

0:08:06 > 0:08:10was a lot better than the previous runs, even with the previous runs.

0:08:10 > 0:08:15It shows that they can get it right. A bit of a mistake, her hands

0:08:15 > 0:08:18slipped on the start, which is why it could have dropped off, just

0:08:18 > 0:08:24because there was not enough purchase at the top. A little

0:08:24 > 0:08:28mistake. Again we have seen top pilots doing that. Letter lying

0:08:28 > 0:08:34round the corner, she had a bang on that as she came round the left.

0:08:34 > 0:08:40This was almost perfect, but it is better to take the nudge on one wall

0:08:40 > 0:08:43and taking two taps. There are really happy with it, and they

0:08:43 > 0:08:50should be.

0:08:50 > 0:08:57should be.Are pretty torrid week for the Jamaican

0:08:57 > 0:09:03for the Jamaican peer, Carrie Russell and Jazmine

0:09:03 > 0:09:07Fenlator-Victorian, they can finish with a smile, 30 years after the

0:09:07 > 0:09:11movie Cool Runnings. Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian wants Jamaicans

0:09:11 > 0:09:17to look back and say we remember that they in South Korea, when the

0:09:17 > 0:09:23Jamaican flag was flown with honour. The previous three runs have not

0:09:23 > 0:09:27been great.Again, little mistakes. She should not be making these type

0:09:27 > 0:09:37of mistakes, she is a quality pilot. She has won medals for the US.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40She has won medals for the US. A little bit low, but maybe that works

0:09:40 > 0:09:48for her. These athletes should be really pleased with the bottom time,

0:09:48 > 0:09:56maybe not so much, but with the lines, they should be saying, yes I

0:09:56 > 0:10:01nailed that one.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05nailed that one.The second quickest time of the games. So, they end with

0:10:05 > 0:10:12a flourish. -- the second quickest time.Not a bad run, little

0:10:12 > 0:10:18mistakes. Different points of the track, but a lot better run than

0:10:18 > 0:10:25what she has done over the last three, so they should be pleased.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29You can see the crowd is paying them. Everyone likes the Jamaican

0:10:29 > 0:10:33bobsleigh story as a whole, and there has been a lot of drama going

0:10:33 > 0:10:38on with the team this week, but she has four runs in, she has made

0:10:38 > 0:10:42history, she should be really proud, they should be really proud of what

0:10:42 > 0:10:50they have achieved.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53they have achieved.Great to see Nigeria and Jamaica finishing. They

0:10:53 > 0:10:57were the first two teams going down the track, and going in reverse

0:10:57 > 0:11:02order. We will pick it up now live, remember the Great Britain pair of

0:11:02 > 0:11:13Misha McNeill and -- Mica McNeill and become your are going to finish

0:11:13 > 0:11:19in the best ever place for women's bobsleigh. We have Germany for

0:11:19 > 0:11:28hundreds of a second against Elana Meyers Taylor of the US. It was

0:11:28 > 0:11:32similar in the men's final run, and that finished in a dead heat.

0:11:32 > 0:11:39Letters headgear now, John Jackson and John Hunt in the commentary box.

0:11:39 > 0:11:49-- let us headgear now. Romania in 15th place at the moment.

0:11:50 > 0:11:57We have Maria Adela Constantin and Andreea Grecu. They have consistent

0:11:57 > 0:12:00times, but not quick enough to trouble the top ten this time

0:12:00 > 0:12:03around. Are really a likeable couple, they are very capable

0:12:03 > 0:12:09pilots.Yes, and they have shown it with their runs. There have not been

0:12:09 > 0:12:14many mistakes from Maria, in the front. They have shown their

0:12:14 > 0:12:19quality, they just maybe have not got the equipment on the bottom of

0:12:19 > 0:12:23the bobsleigh. Just a little mistakes. She needed to steer out

0:12:23 > 0:12:29earlier to come out the street in the middle. We have only seen a few

0:12:29 > 0:12:32mistakes from her. She has really good lines. You can hardly hear it

0:12:32 > 0:12:37stealing.

0:12:38 > 0:12:55stealing. Cash steering. She has not made many mistakes.

0:12:56 > 0:13:03Not quick enough to go past the Belgians.

0:13:08 > 0:13:15I am sure you understand the format, this leaderboard will change every

0:13:15 > 0:13:19run, as we are going slowest to quickest, and this run will end with

0:13:19 > 0:13:24a gold medal for either Germany or the United States of America. Elana

0:13:24 > 0:13:34Meyers

0:13:34 > 0:13:44Meyers Taylor and Mariama Jamanka are the favourites. But it is not

0:13:44 > 0:13:47necessarily a two horse race.Is definitely not. It is going to be

0:13:47 > 0:13:51exciting and become to the last five, who are all in the mix for the

0:13:51 > 0:14:00medals.Next,

0:14:01 > 0:14:08medals.Next, Germany, Anna Koehler and Erline Nolte. Again, it is a

0:14:08 > 0:14:12slow time, not enabling them to mix it with the real powerful teams here

0:14:12 > 0:14:16at these Olympic Games.Yes, you would not normally expect the

0:14:16 > 0:14:21Germans to be this far back on the start, maybe they have not quite got

0:14:21 > 0:14:29the in-depth athletes. May be just too aggressive and corner seven. To

0:14:29 > 0:14:34active on the steering.

0:14:34 > 0:14:38active on the steering. Maybe she has enough to stay in front of the

0:14:38 > 0:14:41Belgians. Cleaner lines. But she is losing time and I don't think she

0:14:41 > 0:14:47will have enough to stay in front. Watch the time, green at the moment,

0:14:47 > 0:14:55but goes red right in the last 20 metres.

0:15:09 > 0:15:13I'm surprised at that, because they seemed to find speed at the bottom

0:15:13 > 0:15:20of the track, but they have just fallen behind, they had a really

0:15:20 > 0:15:26clean run, just over driving. Here is a great view. It was here, you

0:15:26 > 0:15:32see how quickly it changes direction. By then she has scrubbed

0:15:32 > 0:15:44her speedway. That is their head coach on their T-shirt!

0:15:44 > 0:15:52Next, the disappointing Russian pairing.

0:15:52 > 0:16:00pairing. This is their best as I gave up and Anna stay

0:16:01 > 0:16:08-- Mrs Nadezhda Sergeeva and Anastasia Kocherzhova. They have

0:16:08 > 0:16:16dropped to eighth place last year, a disaster, they crashed in Sochi and

0:16:16 > 0:16:19finished in 16th. This is looking like a second consecutive

0:16:19 > 0:16:30disappointing games for Sergeeva.It it's -- it is, and the Russian

0:16:30 > 0:16:33programme have not had the result they wanted in this programme. You

0:16:33 > 0:16:39can see how impressive she had to be determined that, that speed that she

0:16:39 > 0:16:45has got to have at the moment could all disappear. It started to slip

0:16:45 > 0:16:56away now. She gets this next corner right, she makes another mistake,

0:16:56 > 0:17:01these could still drop off. She will do well to lose all of that. We have

0:17:01 > 0:17:06seeded up the hill through the speed trap. That last 300 metres or so is

0:17:06 > 0:17:13all uphill, a 12% climb to the line, she only just clings on the head of

0:17:13 > 0:17:20the Belgium. So Sergeeva moves to the head of the field but that

0:17:20 > 0:17:25leaderboard constantly moving, constantly changing. Sergeeva will

0:17:25 > 0:17:30be nowhere near the lead when we conclude this magnificent and

0:17:30 > 0:17:37compelling event in under half an hour. You can see from that threat

0:17:37 > 0:17:44coming down alone how much these mistakes can cost. This mistake

0:17:44 > 0:17:49here, it cost her over four tenths of a second, almost half a second in

0:17:49 > 0:17:54that run. You cannot make mistakes like this. If you see leaders make

0:17:54 > 0:18:05this, the others will.Well, it's been a great event for the Koreans,

0:18:05 > 0:18:12the men's skeleton one. I'm sure many of you were with us for that

0:18:12 > 0:18:25extraordinary achievement. Here, Kim and Kim, Minseong and Yooran, no

0:18:25 > 0:18:29relation. They cannot expect to get near that kind of achievement but

0:18:29 > 0:18:34they will hope against hope they can go quickly once again. There is

0:18:34 > 0:18:39general times have been OK, they operate very efficiently down this

0:18:39 > 0:18:53track. I bet you they go as standard 5.62, 5.6 three. They are slightly

0:18:53 > 0:18:57slower, their slowest start at this games. We are seeing the red time go

0:18:57 > 0:19:02a little up, that will be costly mistake if they want to stay ahead

0:19:02 > 0:19:08of the Russians. This time she now grow. Because they have both made

0:19:08 > 0:19:11the same mistakes. It's whether they can drive the track better than the

0:19:11 > 0:19:14Russians, because they should know it well enough, they have had

0:19:14 > 0:19:17hundreds of runs down here to find the perfect line. That's one of the

0:19:17 > 0:19:21best we have seen through there. Now they should start to accelerate and

0:19:21 > 0:19:25hold back against the Russians, or is she going to be behind at the

0:19:25 > 0:19:29end? The Russian team lost a lot of time at this point.Coming up to the

0:19:29 > 0:19:43finish. Kim will finish well away from Sergeeva. She has knocked in a

0:19:43 > 0:19:52time of 51.55, which is slow, again, slowest so far. These early athletes

0:19:52 > 0:19:56going in the forefront, they are well off the pace in terms of medals

0:19:56 > 0:19:59but they are all going slower than the third heat.Yes, what you'll see

0:19:59 > 0:20:06with this team in particular, they made a mistake in bend two to three

0:20:06 > 0:20:10which is costly. That's the first time they've done that. She's going

0:20:10 > 0:20:13to be slower because of that mistake that we would just about to see but

0:20:13 > 0:20:19we cut away from it. She did not have the speed in the sled or the

0:20:19 > 0:20:22bottom of the sled to catch the Russians. Another couple of hundred

0:20:22 > 0:20:29metres as you would have been walking in.

0:20:29 > 0:20:34walking in.Happy smiles all round. Less so perhaps from the Russians.

0:20:34 > 0:20:45Sergeeva in front at the moment. Next we have FG -- Willemsen, ranked

0:20:45 > 0:20:50number 11, going for a top-10 place. That top-10 position remains between

0:20:50 > 0:20:57herself and the Austrian, Hengster, who is next. Notoriously moderate

0:20:57 > 0:21:02starters. That start is not particularly good even by their

0:21:02 > 0:21:06standards.She is a great driver so we shouldn't see too many mistakes.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09That's one of the reasons why it she's had so many good results in

0:21:09 > 0:21:12the past, they've had great equipment, great driving and she's

0:21:12 > 0:21:16managed to drive her way back throughout the rest of the World

0:21:16 > 0:21:22Cup. But she's not able to do that any more because everyone else has

0:21:22 > 0:21:28upped their game at their man so her advantage has gone. She has an

0:21:28 > 0:21:32efficient start, you can see her quality as a pilot. This is good as

0:21:32 > 0:21:36any of the top pilots. She had the same start as then, she would be in

0:21:36 > 0:21:45the medal hunt. She will be surging to bleed assuming no disasters. --

0:21:45 > 0:21:51surging into the lead. That's her third quickest of the Olympic Games.

0:21:51 > 0:21:56She went a lot quicker in runs one and three so the time is dropping.

0:21:56 > 0:22:02Is this track deteriorating? It is. They will have done a little bit of

0:22:02 > 0:22:06work between runs to patch up any bits that needed it, but as a whole,

0:22:06 > 0:22:11they've had 20 runs now, from all the sled is, they're into another

0:22:11 > 0:22:18ten. Having 30 runs on this track, they are cutting up the ice and it

0:22:18 > 0:22:26makes the track a little bit slower. It might only been

0:22:26 > 0:22:28It might only been tenths or two tenths but you can see that in the

0:22:28 > 0:22:37time sheet. No macro leading at the moment, all change for sure as we

0:22:37 > 0:22:45move into the same -- top ten.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48move into the same -- top ten. Mica McNeill and Mica Moore to come in

0:22:48 > 0:22:51three athletes, behind the Austrians and persist in the running orders

0:22:51 > 0:22:56for the medals. -- the Swifts. The Austrians next, Christina Hengster

0:22:56 > 0:23:01and Valerie Kleiser, fifth in the World Championship. 15th in the

0:23:01 > 0:23:08Olympic Games in Sochi. That illustrates their up and down status

0:23:08 > 0:23:16within the world of women's bobsleigh, what kind of start, make?

0:23:16 > 0:23:22That has put them slightly up against it, that start. We saw how

0:23:22 > 0:23:25much ice was kicked up at the back of the sled there, that was a big

0:23:25 > 0:23:33mistake. If this Austrian team wanted to move up against Willemsen,

0:23:33 > 0:23:39that was not the corner to have. We have to see perfection at this point

0:23:39 > 0:23:42but I don't think it will be good enough. Not to pull back up on the

0:23:42 > 0:23:48Belgian team who are in the lead at the moment. She is starting to pull

0:23:48 > 0:23:54it back but has she got enough? This is for the honour of a top-10

0:23:54 > 0:23:59position at the big games. Will it be the Austrian or the Belgian? They

0:23:59 > 0:24:05did pull it back. After that early mistake. That was a huge skid down

0:24:05 > 0:24:17through three. They go into the lead, Sergeeva with the lead. --

0:24:17 > 0:24:22Hengster with the lead. Nine more teams to go.She needed to put a big

0:24:22 > 0:24:29run into move herself forward to that top eight position but that

0:24:29 > 0:24:33mistake in corner to- three is going to be costly. The replays don't seem

0:24:33 > 0:24:38to want to show all of the action that we need to speak about. You can

0:24:38 > 0:24:46see the difference between the Belgian and the Austrian, the

0:24:46 > 0:24:49Austrian has taken a bit of a wavy line, she could have found a bit

0:24:49 > 0:24:52more speed. She was free out where the Belgian was a lot flatter. She

0:24:52 > 0:24:56might have had to force the line to get that and scrub off a little bit

0:24:56 > 0:25:03of speed doing so.Their fairly moderate run was good news for the

0:25:03 > 0:25:08British team who are shortly. Next for Switzerland, currently sitting

0:25:08 > 0:25:14in ninth place, Sabina Hafner, about to go. The world mother nine.

0:25:14 > 0:25:26Together with a whole red salmon. -- with Rahal wrapped seven.

0:25:26 > 0:25:35They could well slip off their best time, 50.86, by some way. We will

0:25:35 > 0:25:40have to watch with interest as it will have a bearing on the British

0:25:40 > 0:25:45team X.She is a quality pilot. She's been out of the front seat for

0:25:45 > 0:25:51quite a few years, as she transferred off the skeleton. She's

0:25:51 > 0:25:57got enough to stay in hand in front of the Belgians, sorry, the

0:25:57 > 0:26:01Austrians. All these little mistakes, will they be costly if she

0:26:01 > 0:26:09wants to move in front of the British pair?51 point 21, the

0:26:09 > 0:26:19slowest runner of the four, and that could help keep McNeill and more in

0:26:19 > 0:26:29eighth place, who are next. They have a golden opportunity now to

0:26:29 > 0:26:32register the best ever performance in the British team in the two-man

0:26:32 > 0:26:41bob in the deliberate games. -- Olympic Games. A big moment coming

0:26:41 > 0:26:45up for Mica and Mica. You can see the relief in her face, thank you,

0:26:45 > 0:26:58this is over! I can now relax. Big smile on her face. Pressure is off.

0:26:59 > 0:27:05It's been quite a story, hasn't it? For these two young stars on the

0:27:05 > 0:27:10British team. Mica McNeill, Mica Moore, starting off in eighth place.

0:27:10 > 0:27:14You're going to get a direct comparison as we go on this run

0:27:14 > 0:27:21between themselves and the Swiss team who had just gone, Hafner and

0:27:21 > 0:27:26Rebsamen. And if they can hold them at bay, a little bit of history can

0:27:26 > 0:27:30come their way. There was a slight disappointment after their third

0:27:30 > 0:27:34run, at a time, it was disappointing, it was the 11th

0:27:34 > 0:27:38quickest. We know they're better than that and run number three. Good

0:27:38 > 0:27:45luck to them here. Mica McNeill and Mica Moore, if they can get anywhere

0:27:45 > 0:27:50near 5.50 as a start it would give them a good opportunity and then it

0:27:50 > 0:27:57all about avoiding mistakes. Not great, not terrible. This is where

0:27:57 > 0:28:02Mica needs to be clean. And that could cost her, not as bad as other

0:28:02 > 0:28:07sleds but that two tenths might start to drop off from that hit.

0:28:07 > 0:28:12Mica has been perfect on this track, other than a little mistake on the

0:28:12 > 0:28:17last run. She needs to dial into the track, get this right and you can

0:28:17 > 0:28:24keep top eight. That's good, but has she got enough speed left in the

0:28:24 > 0:28:28track? She has been good at this point in the track all the way down.

0:28:28 > 0:28:31She's starting to pull away, this is the run that she needs to get the

0:28:31 > 0:28:39best results for Britain at the lipid games.Nobody has ever been

0:28:39 > 0:28:44eighth in the Olympics games but these do have claimed that position.

0:28:44 > 0:28:49Nicola Minichiello in 2006 was a fabulous nights. But the British

0:28:49 > 0:28:55pairing go one better at least. What a games for the pair who are only

0:28:55 > 0:28:59here because of the generosity of the British public. Their funding

0:28:59 > 0:29:04completely slashed last year. They asked, they put the begging bowl out

0:29:04 > 0:29:08will stop and they got enough money to keep them on the road and in

0:29:08 > 0:29:15business. Their heads never dropped. And now they have secured a little

0:29:15 > 0:29:20slice of sporting history for Great Britain.Just bear in mind, for

0:29:20 > 0:29:26anyone watching at home, they have not had any on this track at all,

0:29:26 > 0:29:29this is their 14th run on the track and may have finished top eight in

0:29:29 > 0:29:37the world. What a great result. Can it get a little bit better? You

0:29:37 > 0:29:42would have thought it was unlikely. For Canada next, Christine De Bruin

0:29:42 > 0:29:47and Melissa Lotholz start with a very healthy advantage over the

0:29:47 > 0:29:55British pair. You'll see the gap remained quite big to get a first

0:29:55 > 0:30:01comparison with the British team. Let's see if the Canadian pair can

0:30:01 > 0:30:07hold it together. What a mistake. That was worse than the British lead

0:30:07 > 0:30:12so this could be the opportunity. Watch the clock now, it will start

0:30:12 > 0:30:16ticking away. We need to keep an eye on that. She made another little

0:30:16 > 0:30:21mistakes. If she's not clean through this point here, she gets that

0:30:21 > 0:30:26perfect. Is it enough for the British to start pulling them back?

0:30:26 > 0:30:29She's not quite as clean through here. The British have been quick

0:30:29 > 0:30:40and she's pulling away.Very untidy, though. Untidy round 16 as well.

0:30:40 > 0:30:47They just hold the British team at bay.

0:30:55 > 0:31:04It got interesting, little bit, that was a little scrappy. The worst run

0:31:04 > 0:31:11of bit four.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14of bit four. That run from Mica McNeill was absolutely amazing, but

0:31:14 > 0:31:22now the different class. And the funding that they have no makes a

0:31:22 > 0:31:27difference. That big mistake, you can see how much it slides around,

0:31:27 > 0:31:37and she's just out-of-control at three.

0:31:40 > 0:31:43Beheld the big advantage from the start, even though they lost it a

0:31:43 > 0:31:53bit.

0:31:58 > 0:32:12Canada, Alysia Rissling. And we say farewell to

0:32:14 > 0:32:18farewell to one of the big names, Heather Moyse. With Kaillie

0:32:18 > 0:32:23Humphries, they had two gold medals together. She has been one of the

0:32:23 > 0:32:28class athletes in the sport for many years, she have retired and then

0:32:28 > 0:32:31came back because Alysia Rissling, the pilot, Astra two, so she could

0:32:31 > 0:32:37push her at the Olympic Games. She has done a great job, and they have

0:32:37 > 0:32:50worked well together. I thought they would have been higher up the field.

0:32:59 > 0:33:05Me coming at you and me, could improve please hear. Maybe not.I

0:33:05 > 0:33:18think they are going to hold on. Yes, it looks that way.

0:33:20 > 0:33:27It looks as though it will be eighth place.

0:33:28 > 0:33:32place. Alysia Rissling has her career ahead of her, but Heather

0:33:32 > 0:33:38Moyse possibly says goodbye. A brilliant rugby player, a pretty

0:33:38 > 0:33:43good cyclist as well, and what a career she has had in bobsleigh is

0:33:43 > 0:33:48well.Definitely, and it is always great to see the top athletes coming

0:33:48 > 0:33:52out and helping the youngsters, giving themselves a bit of

0:33:52 > 0:34:04confidence. The transition between two and three was tight.

0:34:12 > 0:34:19Be moved to the top five. Next, Germany, Stephanie Schneider and

0:34:19 > 0:34:29Annika Drazek. They had a pretty poor third run. Both carrying a

0:34:29 > 0:34:39little injury. One and ankle and had -- one has an ankle injury.

0:34:45 > 0:34:58She had some bandaging, so something may be uneasy.

0:34:58 > 0:35:02may be uneasy. Not as perfect as the top pilots coming next will do at

0:35:02 > 0:35:08that bend. But she has good speed at the bottom.

0:35:09 > 0:35:16the bottom. She is putting the pressure on.

0:35:19 > 0:35:26pressure on.Stephanie Schneider is confirmed as fifth at the worst. The

0:35:26 > 0:35:33coaches seem to be feeling the pressure. Mariama Jamanka still to

0:35:33 > 0:35:43come.When we look at consistency, that is what you need to do. Maybe

0:35:43 > 0:35:46her second run was the one that let her down when she made some mistakes

0:35:46 > 0:35:50yesterday. Maybe pulled her out of medal contention. But she has just

0:35:50 > 0:35:59added pressure. That is the first heat under 51 seconds. That is the

0:35:59 > 0:36:05bomb that might cost her. The coaches are almost shouting her down

0:36:05 > 0:36:16the track. -- that is the bump that might cost her.Two for the United

0:36:16 > 0:36:22States.

0:36:22 > 0:36:30States. It is Jamie Greubel Poser and Aja Evans. Jamie Greubel Poser

0:36:30 > 0:36:35was gold medallist in such. She finished run three ahead of

0:36:35 > 0:36:41Stephanie Schneider by a tenth of a second. If she can go ahead of the

0:36:41 > 0:36:48German, she will be forth at worst, with three still to come. One of the

0:36:48 > 0:36:52many battles within a battle. The race for a bronze medal. Jamie

0:36:52 > 0:37:06Greubel Poser under way. Capable of a 5.30 start.

0:37:06 > 0:37:12a 5.30 start. This peer won a bronze medal in such a macro.The know-how

0:37:12 > 0:37:21to -- this pair won a bronze medal in sort Cheek. They know how to get

0:37:21 > 0:37:28it right. Like the

0:37:33 > 0:37:38it right. Like the German,... Remember, this is for guaranteed

0:37:38 > 0:37:48fourth place. It is Stephanie Schneider who holds on! Jamie

0:37:48 > 0:37:51Greubel Poser drops back. She is second at the moment, and likely to

0:37:51 > 0:38:00finish fifth. Just like her husband, Christian Poser, in the men's event,

0:38:00 > 0:38:06it looks like it is going to be disappointment.

0:38:08 > 0:38:11disappointment.Overall, you look at the run and you think, how has she

0:38:11 > 0:38:16just lost the speed? Maybe just over driving, the same mistake as the

0:38:16 > 0:38:22Germans. The lines are almost identical. You do not see much in it

0:38:22 > 0:38:31at all. That is the difference at the bottom. I was not expecting

0:38:31 > 0:38:37that.

0:38:37 > 0:38:39that.Now the great Kaillie Humphries. In the bronze medal

0:38:39 > 0:38:46position at the moment. After the third run, she had a lead of 15

0:38:46 > 0:38:50hundredths over Stephanie Schneider, who is currently third. Kaillie

0:38:50 > 0:38:59Humphries, gold in Vancouver and gold in Sochi.

0:38:59 > 0:39:07gold in Sochi. There is a medal for her here if she is clean and fast.

0:39:07 > 0:39:11They have all started here in the 30s. It is just about no one who has

0:39:11 > 0:39:16the bottle to hold it. The Germans are in the driving seat at the

0:39:16 > 0:39:21minute, but Kaillie Humphries has the experience, she is the most

0:39:21 > 0:39:28experienced in the field, double Olympic champion.

0:39:28 > 0:39:30Olympic champion. But she has not been as fast as the others in the

0:39:30 > 0:39:38bottom half of the track. She's going to have to do more. Will she

0:39:38 > 0:39:43hold on?

0:39:45 > 0:39:51hold on?Double gold medallist, guaranteed bronze medal at least

0:39:51 > 0:39:56here! Kaillie Humphries, one of the greats, will be on the podium again,

0:39:56 > 0:40:02as wilfully see George, who was a fantastic sprinter in her time, and

0:40:02 > 0:40:09has said she has not given up on her athletics career. They both have a

0:40:09 > 0:40:13medal together. She would have loved another gold medal, which may not

0:40:13 > 0:40:20happen, but a bronze at least for one of the greats of women's

0:40:20 > 0:40:25bobsleigh.That was almost perfect. No really big mistakes, but you

0:40:25 > 0:40:31would expect that from a pilot of her calibre. Everything that she did

0:40:31 > 0:40:34there was because she needed to get down and could find the speed in the

0:40:34 > 0:40:39track.

0:40:40 > 0:40:44track.After two days of competition, after four Keats, the

0:40:44 > 0:40:49Germans wait in the wings, and it is the focus on the United States of

0:40:49 > 0:41:00America, and Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs. Elana Meyers Taylor

0:41:00 > 0:41:04has won everything, world titles, World Championships, Olympic bronze,

0:41:04 > 0:41:08Olympic silver. There is one honour missing from her resume, and that is

0:41:08 > 0:41:18Olympic gold. She is usually electric.

0:41:22 > 0:41:32She has achieved a fast time again.

0:41:32 > 0:41:46She just needs to drive this likely now she can. She needs to make sure.

0:41:48 > 0:41:57Absolutely perfect. Enough speed to get the silver.

0:42:01 > 0:42:04get the silver.And huge advantage over Kaillie Humphries, a silver

0:42:04 > 0:42:11medal guaranteed for Elana Meyers Taylor. Will it be enough? We will

0:42:11 > 0:42:17know the answer to that in three minutes. Huge success and an

0:42:17 > 0:42:21outpouring of emotion for her, who has done so much for the United

0:42:21 > 0:42:31States, so much for women's sport. Loring Gibbs also now has a medal.

0:42:31 > 0:42:38Emotional outpouring, having just won a silver medal again. She was

0:42:38 > 0:42:43great in Vancouver for a bronze, and picked up silver behind Kaillie

0:42:43 > 0:42:47Humphries.

0:42:48 > 0:42:52Humphries. -- four years ago, and here it is silver again.Four years

0:42:52 > 0:42:55ago she had the gold medal winning run and blew it by making cement

0:42:55 > 0:43:07mistakes. But that run was perfect. -- by making so many mistakes. The

0:43:07 > 0:43:17German pilot is 27-year-old Mariama Jamanka.

0:43:19 > 0:43:21Jamanka. Will she realise the dream of them all with an Olympic gold

0:43:21 > 0:43:22medal?

0:43:27 > 0:43:32It will be America or Germany, and we will now in less than 50 seconds.

0:43:32 > 0:43:41There was a deficit at the start. It should drop away at the next clock.

0:43:43 > 0:43:47The German pilot has been the most consistent, and is fast at the

0:43:47 > 0:43:54bottom.

0:44:14 > 0:44:24Germany are the winners!

0:44:30 > 0:44:35She picked up gold for Germany in the 2006 games, and they win again,

0:44:35 > 0:44:43and I do not think Mariama Jamanka can believe it. And the skip appears

0:44:43 > 0:44:54to be in tears. Amazing scenes for Germany. I think the shock of it has

0:44:54 > 0:45:00hit them.It certainly has, this is what the German programme needed.

0:45:00 > 0:45:05Four years ago, they got no medals at all, which is unheard of. But

0:45:05 > 0:45:10they came out fighting, they got gold in the men's bobsleigh and now

0:45:10 > 0:45:16in this as well. This is how you come back. That run was perfect,

0:45:16 > 0:45:21flawless, better than any others. That is why she is Olympic champion.

0:45:21 > 0:45:26She would have known she was behind Elana Meyers Taylor at the start.

0:45:26 > 0:45:30That is a very cool head. That is the pressure they have to put up

0:45:30 > 0:45:35with because once the breaker has done their job and pushed it, it is

0:45:35 > 0:45:44then down to the pilot. That was just pure pressure all the way.

0:45:48 > 0:45:51It was her against the track. She was not worried about anyone else,

0:45:51 > 0:45:56it was just getting the exit right, two, four, nine, and she nailed

0:45:56 > 0:46:05every single one of them on every run.Mariama Jamanka, an ex-Hammer

0:46:05 > 0:46:13thrower, has just thrown the world of women's bobsleigh on its head.

0:46:13 > 0:46:16It's confirmed that they have won the gold medal by seven hundredths

0:46:16 > 0:46:22of a second. Great scenes afterwards. A great rapport there

0:46:22 > 0:46:26seems to be between all of these teams. There is. The sliding

0:46:26 > 0:46:31community is one big family. They seem surprised because they probably

0:46:31 > 0:46:38won't one of the medal favourites coming into this. Maybe an outside

0:46:38 > 0:46:42chance of top six but it shows what potential this German programme has.

0:46:42 > 0:46:47To illustrate what a great driver and pilot Jamanka is, it's worth

0:46:47 > 0:46:51noting that looking at start times alone, as we see Kaillie Humphries

0:46:51 > 0:46:56again with her bronze medal, starts times alone, she had a massive gap

0:46:56 > 0:47:02to pull back every time with Meyers Taylor but every time she did it.

0:47:02 > 0:47:06She certainly did. That's down to her quality in the front seat as a

0:47:06 > 0:47:13driver doing the job. If she had had the same starts as Meyers Taylor, it

0:47:13 > 0:47:19would be half a second between gold and silver. It's thrown up something

0:47:19 > 0:47:23else which we didn't expect at the start, and that's one of the

0:47:23 > 0:47:32outsiders winning the medal.Jamanka wins gold. Meyers Taylor, Silver

0:47:32 > 0:47:35medal, her second, and Kaillie Humphries, the great from Canada,

0:47:35 > 0:47:43has got the bronze. Germany and the USA next. And confirmation of the

0:47:43 > 0:47:47wonderful record position for the great British team in eighth place,

0:47:47 > 0:47:53well done Misha Taylor and Mika McNeill, wonderful stuff for Great

0:47:53 > 0:47:58Britain. STUDIO: and Germany so strong in the

0:47:58 > 0:48:04sliding events, they have won three gold medals in luge and two in

0:48:04 > 0:48:13bobsleigh, and for the great quiche pair of Mica and Mica, -- the great

0:48:13 > 0:48:16British pair of Mica and Mica, how would they have done if they had the

0:48:16 > 0:48:20best kit? I'm standing in front of the best

0:48:20 > 0:48:24women's bobsleigh team that Great Britain has ever produced. It feels

0:48:24 > 0:48:31amazing, where so happy. Just wanted to enjoy the experience because it

0:48:31 > 0:48:33is our first games and we've come away with eighth. It's more than we

0:48:33 > 0:48:41have hoped for and were so happy. Will you happy with the performances

0:48:41 > 0:48:48today?Yes, there's things I'm always picky with but we said we'd

0:48:48 > 0:48:53like a single figure is old and we've done that.-- single figure

0:48:53 > 0:49:00result. I wasn't comfortable yesterday in my driving and I had a

0:49:00 > 0:49:05couple of mistakes but we have to be happy with that. It feels amazing.I

0:49:05 > 0:49:10think she's done amazing.Nicola Minichiello sends her best, in the

0:49:10 > 0:49:15studio, you have gone toe to toe with some of the best programmes and

0:49:15 > 0:49:20you have funded yourself. It feels amazing, five months ago we didn't

0:49:20 > 0:49:23even know if we would be here. To get here is an achievement in itself

0:49:23 > 0:49:28and we have loved every minute of it and we want to say thank you to

0:49:28 > 0:49:32everyone who has supported us, and our family and friends. It's been a

0:49:32 > 0:49:38credible.It's been a crazy few months and this has been the cherry

0:49:38 > 0:49:42on top, we enjoyed it so much.Has anyone in British Bob Lay said,

0:49:42 > 0:49:46we're sorry, we've got this wrong, we are glad you're here.They can't

0:49:46 > 0:49:50fully say anything like that, they made that decision and then new

0:49:50 > 0:49:57people come in and they have to stick by it. We will be back in four

0:49:57 > 0:50:02years' time, and you will see us in amongst it.Will it be an

0:50:02 > 0:50:05interesting conversation with the performance director around funding

0:50:05 > 0:50:09between now and Beijing 2022?I like to think so, I really hope we don't

0:50:09 > 0:50:14have to ask people, we don't have to be powered by the people any more,

0:50:14 > 0:50:17as great as it's being, we want them to be able to just watch out and

0:50:17 > 0:50:21enjoy it and not have to help us again.I think you deserve that and

0:50:21 > 0:50:25I'm sure everyone at home is wishing you all the best between now and

0:50:25 > 0:50:33Beijing. Well done again.Thank you, hello Nicola!

0:50:33 > 0:50:33She's waving back.

0:50:33 > 0:50:34hello Nicola! She's waving back. What is your

0:50:34 > 0:50:39reaction to their performance over the four runs?Absolutely amazing.

0:50:39 > 0:50:47We're going to see this changing around, Jamanka is new in two

0:50:47 > 0:50:50driving, but the American and Canadian will retire and this is the

0:50:50 > 0:50:57new generation. Mica has got a good sled but it's not impaired to the

0:50:57 > 0:51:03Germans. Not amazing. The start is solid but another four years of

0:51:03 > 0:51:06training, she will be right up there. It's really exciting for the

0:51:06 > 0:51:11future of women's bobsleigh, that performance is going to make

0:51:11 > 0:51:14everybody think, hang on, this is worth investing in, we can jump an

0:51:14 > 0:51:18awfully long way. We can get a medal in this.If she can perform that

0:51:18 > 0:51:23well on a track that she doesn't know and she doesn't have any runs

0:51:23 > 0:51:29on, it's six runs, we are good at learning tracks very fast because we

0:51:29 > 0:51:36don't have a home one. Add on for years of training in the gym all

0:51:36 > 0:51:40summer long, get more knowledge on ice and better equipment, and who

0:51:40 > 0:51:43knows where we could be in four years, they are going to be medal

0:51:43 > 0:51:47contenders.And not having to worry about funding would make a big

0:51:47 > 0:51:52difference. It takes up a lot of headspace as well as energy to raise

0:51:52 > 0:51:56funds.This is why UK sport invest in support networks because it's not

0:51:56 > 0:52:00ideal for an athlete to be able to think, how may go to get down the

0:52:00 > 0:52:04track, and start well, and pay for my, nation? How do I pay for the

0:52:04 > 0:52:07flight? Where is the money coming from? It's a constant daily battle

0:52:07 > 0:52:10and that's not something they need in their head at this point.Given

0:52:10 > 0:52:16them what they've been through, given the lack of experience on the

0:52:16 > 0:52:19track, how highly do you rate that performance in finishing eighth? If

0:52:19 > 0:52:28she had had a slightly more competitive sled and 500th on the

0:52:28 > 0:52:32start, they would have won. Literally, one hundredths Foster on

0:52:32 > 0:52:38the top, three hundredths on the bottom. Their differential works out

0:52:38 > 0:52:44on 1300, but in the BMW sleds which are worth a few, they would have

0:52:44 > 0:52:49been right up there, no question. If you were now in charge between now

0:52:49 > 0:52:53and Beijing, if you want them to be a gold medal potential team, what

0:52:53 > 0:52:58you do with them? You keep them focused and training, you give them

0:52:58 > 0:53:01the confidence. You've always got to be looking at technology to see

0:53:01 > 0:53:04where it can improve and I'm sure the British programme are going to

0:53:04 > 0:53:09be tracking down the BMW, how do they improve the equipment? Get the

0:53:09 > 0:53:12more athletic and in the gym, really working for that power. Anything is

0:53:12 > 0:53:20possible.We will talk about Jamanka winning the gold but let's analyse

0:53:20 > 0:53:24this final run for Mica McNeill and Mica Moore, and where you saw the

0:53:24 > 0:53:26strength and where you said, this could be better.

0:53:30 > 0:53:35The start, it was solid, the time was not amazing but the velocity,

0:53:35 > 0:53:38and you seek Mica, she loads in. All of that energy and weight is going

0:53:38 > 0:53:42forward and pushing the sled. Already at this first two or three

0:53:42 > 0:53:47corners, she's pulling away. She comes through, there was a small

0:53:47 > 0:53:53mistake there but it was not a skid. It's nice, smooth, it just looks

0:53:53 > 0:53:58smooth. This is a really technical track and the lines are really good,

0:53:58 > 0:54:02solid lines, she let it has been billed compared to the third one.

0:54:02 > 0:54:08You can it's nice.I think it's her confidence building, the more she

0:54:08 > 0:54:13slides, she will come away from the games and go home, they will review

0:54:13 > 0:54:15everything and review what's happened and this confidence of the

0:54:15 > 0:54:19eighth place is going to be able to build upon in the summer to be able

0:54:19 > 0:54:23to get to the plush track and train hard in the gym. And come out

0:54:23 > 0:54:28fighting. She has now got her sights aimed and she knows what she can

0:54:28 > 0:54:32achieve. Loads of people are retiring after the games, every

0:54:32 > 0:54:37single cycle so there will be more of an empty hole should we say, for

0:54:37 > 0:54:42the results. And confidence is a huge thing. Once you're confident,

0:54:42 > 0:54:48your performance increases so much more. That big push and confidence

0:54:48 > 0:54:51and that pat on the back, knowing that this is what you could achieve

0:54:51 > 0:54:52off so little runs

0:54:52 > 0:54:55that this is what you could achieve off so little runs and of not as

0:54:55 > 0:54:59much ice time. They are going to regret the third run, you could hear

0:54:59 > 0:55:02that in the interview. Lying in sixth place overnight, down to

0:55:02 > 0:55:07eighth and then holding the position was great. Perhaps not surprising

0:55:07 > 0:55:11because you spent all night thinking what might be and getting a little

0:55:11 > 0:55:15bit too excited. It's human nature. You hope that you're going to focus

0:55:15 > 0:55:18on the process. You hope you're going to not let any of those

0:55:18 > 0:55:21messages or any of those dreams coming to a head. But it's human

0:55:21 > 0:55:26nature

0:55:28 > 0:55:31nature you to get carried away, we all got a little carried away.Let's

0:55:31 > 0:55:36talk about Germany, they have done the double sharing the gold medal in

0:55:36 > 0:55:42the men's Bob. When you look at this kit, powered by a very great

0:55:42 > 0:55:46pressure and pilot, when you look at the sled, can you already see to the

0:55:46 > 0:55:52naked eye, do you say, that is a bit of kit?

0:55:53 > 0:55:57It's impressive looking, it has the point like the BMW but most of the

0:55:57 > 0:56:02technology is inside. It's about the frame and the suspension, how they

0:56:02 > 0:56:05can make sure that as the sled comes on and off the corner, there is no

0:56:05 > 0:56:14loss of speed. Last year they had a shocker, they had huge issues, they

0:56:14 > 0:56:18had a huge failure of the programme, they had no medals. These are new

0:56:18 > 0:56:22pilots, new athlete and new sleds and they have put it together and

0:56:22 > 0:56:30won both.So if Mica McNeill was piloting this bob, what would she be

0:56:30 > 0:56:35capable of?These are the first times we have seen these sleds, the

0:56:35 > 0:56:41BMW, we talk to or three tenths. How this compares, it will take times to

0:56:41 > 0:56:48get the stats.Amazing for Jamanka to hold on, to hold on and feel the

0:56:48 > 0:56:51pressure knowing that the Americans set a great time and she still went

0:56:51 > 0:56:56faster.This is her first Olympics, she has been driving less than four

0:56:56 > 0:57:01years. She was a huge question going in in terms of experience. And going

0:57:01 > 0:57:08into it going into the gold medal position, huge nerves so it's a

0:57:08 > 0:57:12testament to her and the team around her.We have seen plenty of people

0:57:12 > 0:57:18not holding on.Yes, because this is a sport where your brain is in

0:57:18 > 0:57:21overdrive, especially if you know you're in the gold medal position

0:57:21 > 0:57:27but you have two empty your thoughts completely out and then get into the

0:57:27 > 0:57:31bob, do the biggest push and concentrate on each corner, what

0:57:31 > 0:57:34you're driving and which skills you have on each corner to get through

0:57:34 > 0:57:38whilst not telling that the tall man in your head saying, but you could

0:57:38 > 0:57:42win gold and do this. You have got to tell them to be quiet and

0:57:42 > 0:57:49concentrate, gets down and do this process goals. For Elana Meyers

0:57:49 > 0:57:51Taylor, another silver medal but I don't think she will regret this

0:57:51 > 0:57:56like she would in Sochi, she skidded all over the place and she said, I

0:57:56 > 0:58:00would never forget that, and if I ever won gold, I will appreciate it

0:58:00 > 0:58:08so much more. This one was fair enough, four good runs.

0:58:08 > 0:58:13In Sochi, she lost the gold medal. She had the potential and she had a

0:58:13 > 0:58:16shocker. These four, considering she's not renowned as the best

0:58:16 > 0:58:24driver in the world, probably her best for ever. -- four ever. She

0:58:24 > 0:58:27will have the start and the equipment but the driver was solid

0:58:27 > 0:58:35today and I think the silver medal is deserved. In the studio here, as

0:58:35 > 0:58:40Mica McNeill and Mica Moore confirmed eighth, you would expect

0:58:40 > 0:58:45people to be quiet if your record was taken but you were thrilled for

0:58:45 > 0:58:53them?I am because Mica has had a hard battle. Throughout her career,

0:58:53 > 0:58:56she's had so many challenges and doubters to overcome. Last September

0:58:56 > 0:59:03she was in bits when she was told that she wasn't good enough. It was

0:59:03 > 0:59:07not just told, we're not going to find you, but as an individual, as a

0:59:07 > 0:59:10female, you're told you're not good enough to go out there and she had

0:59:10 > 0:59:14proved everyone wrong but I couldn't be more proud.It was a delight to

0:59:14 > 0:59:18share it with you. Four-man bob coming up next, what's the Newsweek

0:59:18 > 0:59:30training? We have two British there. We are 19th, 17th and 18th, they are

0:59:30 > 0:59:36all learning. They are the four guys trying to push together and sink in.

0:59:36 > 0:59:43I got some info from out there and he said one is playing around, it

0:59:43 > 0:59:50stay one, then mixing things up and testing things up.At ago from the

0:59:50 > 0:59:59training rain. Saturday and Sunday, those are the last sliding events

0:59:59 > 1:00:04for Britain. This is the best ever finish for the British women.

1:00:04 > 1:00:08If you were watching earlier, we saw the semifinals of the team

1:00:08 > 1:00:13competitions in speed skating, so not short track, but speed skating,

1:00:13 > 1:00:17clean lines and beautiful and the team in particular really thrilling

1:00:17 > 1:00:22to watch as they streamline in behind each other. The final was

1:00:22 > 1:00:24between the dominant Dutch and Japan, this is for the women. And

1:00:24 > 1:00:30among that Netherlands team was Irene, looking for a sixth gold

1:00:30 > 1:00:34medal. Let's see if she can succeed in that quest. After we have seen

1:00:34 > 1:00:38who took the bronze medal will stop this was between Canada and the USA.

1:00:45 > 1:00:49And North American line-up in the bronze medal race your. The women's

1:00:49 > 1:00:57team pursuit.

1:00:57 > 1:01:11team pursuit. USA represented by Heather Bergsma,

1:01:21 > 1:01:30we can see the Canadian trio looking good. A small slip by Josie Morrison

1:01:30 > 1:01:37in second place. That will cost the Canadians valuable time.

1:01:47 > 1:01:52Heather Bergsma at the front for the Americans. That slip for the

1:01:52 > 1:02:01Canadians has cost them. Over two seconds now. Canada very much on the

1:02:01 > 1:02:12back foot here in the early stages.

1:02:20 > 1:02:26Canada have world champions in the line-up. Heather Bergsma, the 500

1:02:26 > 1:02:35metres champion. Brittany Bowe, the 2015 champion.Brittany Bowe is

1:02:35 > 1:02:41looking very comfortable, and the gap is getting bigger and bigger. It

1:02:41 > 1:02:45is enormous, only three seconds within the final three laps, and it

1:02:45 > 1:02:52is hard to see how Canada will pull this back and secure a bronze medal.

1:02:52 > 1:02:58Isabelle Weidemann on the front. You can see the United States hurtling

1:02:58 > 1:03:05around the track.

1:03:05 > 1:03:07around the track. Mia Manganello in the front, and a hand being placed

1:03:07 > 1:03:14on the hep of her, just a steadying hand. But they are working well as a

1:03:14 > 1:03:19team, the United States. In second place, Brittany Bowe giving the

1:03:19 > 1:03:27assist.It is all about the third time. Weak link in the trio is the

1:03:27 > 1:03:35leading skater. You can see the hand pushing on the left leg.The United

1:03:35 > 1:03:44States are going to win this by some considerable distance.

1:03:44 > 1:03:46considerable distance. Ivanie Blondin, the strongest for the

1:03:46 > 1:03:56Canadians. Yes, the United States flying around here.

1:04:04 > 1:04:08They can hardly put 1's gate in front of the other, really close at

1:04:08 > 1:04:13the end, less than half a second and it. It looked as if Mia Manganello

1:04:13 > 1:04:20was cramping up at the end. She could hardly move. The lactic acid

1:04:20 > 1:04:24is so high at the end of such a race. You cannot sit down and

1:04:24 > 1:04:31maintain the skating position. The Americans are delighted. What

1:04:31 > 1:04:40happened towards the end, did they tire badly? Look at Mia Manganello

1:04:40 > 1:04:46at the front, she can hardly use her legs. She almost falls down and sits

1:04:46 > 1:04:53on her backside. It is about the third skater. Sodhi try to go across

1:04:53 > 1:04:59equally to get the clock.

1:04:59 > 1:05:01equally to get the clock. That is the reserves athlete that skated in

1:05:01 > 1:05:08the previous round, so hopefully she will get a medal as well.Mia

1:05:08 > 1:05:13Manganello was in excruciating pain in the final metres! But the United

1:05:13 > 1:05:19States take the bronze medal ahead of Canada.

1:05:21 > 1:05:25of Canada. The Olympic women's team pursuit final is under way. The

1:05:25 > 1:05:41Netherlands against Japan. And it promises to be a competitive final.

1:05:43 > 1:05:49On the front for Japan, Miho Takagi. In the front for the Netherlands,

1:05:49 > 1:05:54Ireen Wust.

1:06:02 > 1:06:13Will the fresh legs of Marrit Leenstra make the difference?

1:06:13 > 1:06:15Leenstra make the difference? Japan are looking at putting a bit of

1:06:15 > 1:06:21psychological pressure on early here.

1:06:23 > 1:06:30here.Nevitt is Ayano Sato at the front.

1:06:38 > 1:06:43Marrit Leenstra is more of a sprinter, she is better that the

1:06:43 > 1:06:481000 and 1500 metres. This is where the Dutch will make the difference.

1:06:48 > 1:06:52The Netherlands are now starting to turn the screw and turn the tables

1:06:52 > 1:07:04and forge ahead. It is the blink of an eye, nothing between them.

1:07:04 > 1:07:06an eye, nothing between them.We will see the difference here, the

1:07:06 > 1:07:12Dutch are pushing ahead.

1:07:19 > 1:07:31What an athlete to put in front in the closing stages, Ireen Wust.

1:07:31 > 1:07:34Ireen Wust, already ten Olympic medals, she is the most decorated

1:07:34 > 1:07:46speed skater of all time. They are going to have to dig deep here.

1:07:46 > 1:07:53Japan have put on a sprint! They have opened up a lead of half a

1:07:53 > 1:08:01second! This is remarkable.Ireen Wust is struggling. The Japanese

1:08:01 > 1:08:07look like they are on to gold. The wheels are coming off for the

1:08:07 > 1:08:13Netherlands. Japan are about to glide their way to the gold medal.

1:08:13 > 1:08:21Your wiggle. Towards the line! Japan take it, and it is an Olympic record

1:08:21 > 1:08:26time. Bale and an advantage of over one second and a half over the great

1:08:26 > 1:08:30Ireen Wust and the Netherlands line-up. The Dutch have been beaten

1:08:30 > 1:08:37into second place. The celebrations start for Japan. What a race. They

1:08:37 > 1:08:43started quickly and finished even faster.

1:08:45 > 1:08:50faster. The Dutch coach moved to Japan, and he has shown it is not

1:08:50 > 1:08:53just about the skaters who have come from Holland, it is about the

1:08:53 > 1:08:59coaching. The look on their faces tell you what you need to know. They

1:08:59 > 1:09:04did not come here for a silver medal. It is not what they were

1:09:04 > 1:09:13after at all. Japan emerge victorious.

1:09:13 > 1:09:18victorious.We have been seeing the Dutch really dominating this

1:09:18 > 1:09:28distance in the last few years.

1:09:36 > 1:09:43Lotte Van Beek was the fourth member of the team, but there was nothing

1:09:43 > 1:09:52she could do.

1:09:52 > 1:09:59she could do. Ter Mors was great for the Netherlands, might it have been

1:09:59 > 1:10:07better if she had been part of the team?If she had completed in the

1:10:07 > 1:10:091500 metres, a lot of people say that Ireen Wust would not have won

1:10:09 > 1:10:16gold.The Dutch tend to dominate this sport, but Japan are obviously

1:10:16 > 1:10:23very good at this discipline. How much of an upset is it, coming here,

1:10:23 > 1:10:27or were they carrying equal favourite status?Last year they

1:10:27 > 1:10:29were second at the World Championships, they would only four

1:10:29 > 1:10:36tenths of a second slower than the Dutch team, and the coach has been

1:10:36 > 1:10:43working with the team for the last four years to get this fabulous

1:10:43 > 1:10:48Olympic gold. CLARE BALDING:.

1:10:50 > 1:10:54CLARE BALDING:. 11 medals overall, which is their best ever. Ireen Wust

1:10:54 > 1:10:58can be consoled by the fact it is her 11th Olympic gold medal --

1:10:58 > 1:11:06Winter Olympics medal. The Dutch men were in the bronze medal race,

1:11:06 > 1:11:09against New Zealand. We will see that shortly, then we will see the

1:11:09 > 1:11:14hosts South Korea in the final against Norway. Hazel Irvine will be

1:11:14 > 1:11:20taking over after this. I will see you later tonight, but here is why

1:11:20 > 1:11:31-- Wilf O'Reilly and Simon Brotherton.

1:11:31 > 1:11:43The race for bronze is under way. Sven Kramer powering his way.

1:11:43 > 1:11:47Sven Kramer powering his way. The Dutch and against New Zealand, who

1:11:47 > 1:11:50are silver medallists from the World Championship last year. Have they

1:11:50 > 1:11:55got a big last effort inside their legs in this Olympic Games that can

1:11:55 > 1:12:00carry them to a medal? It will be interesting to see if the Dutch

1:12:00 > 1:12:07change their tactics. Kramer is in the front. In the first round I

1:12:07 > 1:12:15believe he stayed on the front a lot longer.Jan Blokhuijsen is leading

1:12:15 > 1:12:22from the Dutch. They have a second upper New Zealand. This is an eighth

1:12:22 > 1:12:32lap race.There are quite a way ahead.

1:12:32 > 1:12:38ahead.The number one skater for New Zealand, Shane Dobbin, does not race

1:12:38 > 1:12:42at the front. The other two always take the wind.At the end you will

1:12:42 > 1:12:46see the skaters putting their hand on the backside of the skater in

1:12:46 > 1:12:49front of them, giving them assistance. The one at the front is

1:12:49 > 1:12:57catching all the wind resistance, and the Dutch are no one and a half

1:12:57 > 1:13:08seconds in front of New Zealand.

1:13:10 > 1:13:13The Dutch are still smarting after not getting into the final, no

1:13:13 > 1:13:20doubt. There were other options that could have taken for the squad.

1:13:20 > 1:13:25Jorrit Bergsma was the main one, which they decided not to take.

1:13:25 > 1:13:32Nearly two seconds. It is a big ask, but we saw Canada comeback in the

1:13:32 > 1:13:44women's race and make it really interesting up to the line.

1:13:46 > 1:13:52They have had about 1.5 hours rest, so it is also about the recovery.

1:13:52 > 1:13:59This is Sven Kramer in the front, he has eight Olympic medals to his

1:13:59 > 1:14:03name. He's looking to add to that. He is the most decorated male speed

1:14:03 > 1:14:12skater of all time.Jan Blokhuijsen goes to the front.

1:14:17 > 1:14:22This is looking tough for New Zealand. Peter Michael is working

1:14:22 > 1:14:28hard but they look tired.

1:14:28 > 1:14:30hard but they look tired. It would appear that the Dutch will be taking

1:14:30 > 1:14:36the bronze medal.

1:14:36 > 1:14:39the bronze medal.The Netherlands are 400 metres away from continuing

1:14:39 > 1:14:45the record of claiming the medal every time -- every time in this

1:14:45 > 1:14:51event in the Olympic Games.

1:14:51 > 1:14:53event in the Olympic Games. It has proved to be a race too far for New

1:14:53 > 1:14:58Zealand.

1:14:59 > 1:15:04Zealand. Sven Kramer is the main man in the team, ensuring all skaters

1:15:04 > 1:15:09crossed the line together.

1:15:10 > 1:15:13It's quite awake for New Zealand to come over the line. Disappointing

1:15:13 > 1:15:18fourth place. The Dutch take the bronze. Had New Zealand managed to

1:15:18 > 1:15:22claim it, it would only have been their second ever medal at the

1:15:22 > 1:15:23Winter Games. They

1:15:23 > 1:15:25their second ever medal at the Winter Games. They came close but in

1:15:25 > 1:15:30the end, just ran out of gas after that earlier efforts this evening.

1:15:30 > 1:15:33So the Netherlands claiming the first of the medals in the men's

1:15:33 > 1:15:41team pursuit. There's been much talk about after Sochi, the Dutch were

1:15:41 > 1:15:47way too strong in this. But clearly coming into these games, they wear

1:15:47 > 1:15:53the red-hot favourites, but they have not performed to the level they

1:15:53 > 1:15:58have performed at previous games. Cramer looking very comfortable in

1:15:58 > 1:16:10second place. Disappointment for him. Jan Blokhuijsen, just being

1:16:10 > 1:16:15congratulated by the coach, who was actually ill the first couple of

1:16:15 > 1:16:18days and was not able to be on the eyes. They will still be

1:16:18 > 1:16:26disappointed, though? Definitely. Norway, bronze medallists in the

1:16:26 > 1:16:30World Championships last year up against the hosts, Korea.

1:16:35 > 1:16:42This is the same line-up as in the semifinal earlier today. Korea won

1:16:42 > 1:16:48the silver medal in Sochi, can they go one better here at home in 2018?

1:16:58 > 1:17:03The crowd just about managing to contain their excitement. Quiet for

1:17:03 > 1:17:09the start.

1:17:17 > 1:17:23Eight lamps to glory, the race is on. Korea against Norway.

1:17:23 > 1:17:28Interesting to see what the Koreans can do here because they are all

1:17:28 > 1:17:33ex-short track speed skaters and it's all about recovery. Those teams

1:17:33 > 1:17:37have had fairly comfortable qualifying rounds, a tough semifinal

1:17:37 > 1:17:40and it's all about recovery. I think the Norwegians could be the

1:17:40 > 1:17:42favourites but I think the Koreans might have the edge because of the

1:17:42 > 1:17:51recovery that they've had.Min Seok Kim on the front for Korea, the gap

1:17:51 > 1:17:57is just over half a second. Sverre Lunde Pedersen is effectively the

1:17:57 > 1:18:06captain for Norway, in fact, it's Pedersen on the front for them. They

1:18:06 > 1:18:11are putting career under some early pressure here. And Havard Bokko

1:18:11 > 1:18:20takes the lead wearing the number one armband. What was seen in the

1:18:20 > 1:18:24Korean semifinal, because they are used to short track acceleration

1:18:24 > 1:18:28towards the end of the race, it's interesting to see what schedule

1:18:28 > 1:18:32they were going out on.I think if they're in range, it will be an

1:18:32 > 1:18:39incredible sprint over the final 400 minutes. On the front at the moment,

1:18:39 > 1:18:45Seung-Hoon Lee for career. It's really close now.It is, came in

1:18:45 > 1:18:52second place, who will slightly take the place of the Koreans. Still at

1:18:52 > 1:18:58the moment Lee in front and Norwegians feeling the pressure.

1:18:58 > 1:19:02They will know it's getting close by the shrieks and the Alps cascading

1:19:02 > 1:19:08down from the stands inspired a shrug of the yelps cascading down

1:19:08 > 1:19:14the stands here. It is Korea who have an advantage here. The crowd

1:19:14 > 1:19:17are starting to wonder whether it's going to be another gold medal for

1:19:17 > 1:19:26the hosts.Kim of Korea looks very comfortable, such a good compact

1:19:26 > 1:19:35working unit.It was less than a tenth of a second, this will go all

1:19:35 > 1:19:39the way to the wire, it is attempted the second the other way, the

1:19:39 > 1:19:43pendulum is ebbing and flowing, the pendulum swinging one way and

1:19:43 > 1:19:48another. It is no way's way at the moment but we are far from done.

1:19:48 > 1:19:53Pedersen is the captain of this team, and he is really throwing

1:19:53 > 1:20:01everything into these final laps. What a final this is proving to be.

1:20:01 > 1:20:04Norway now just edging ahead by almost a second with two laps to go,

1:20:04 > 1:20:09what have Korea got left, have they saved a bit for a massive sprint?I

1:20:09 > 1:20:16think they're used to this kind of sprint. You can see the pace being

1:20:16 > 1:20:20pushed up at the Norwegians are opening up the gaps. It's Havard

1:20:20 > 1:20:24Bokko on the front for Norway as they come round to take the bell.

1:20:24 > 1:20:28How close is it going to be? Norway have the advantage and Korea have

1:20:28 > 1:20:37got plenty to do. Just over a second between the pair.Pedersen in

1:20:37 > 1:20:42Norway, the reserve is there, he is still at the front. Here goes Sverre

1:20:42 > 1:20:47Lunde Pedersen for Norway. They have got just over a second advantage.

1:20:47 > 1:20:54Can they carry it to the line? This is where it really hurts, they got

1:20:54 > 1:20:59the big boot. Norway -- not really have got to dig deep. They claim the

1:20:59 > 1:21:05gold medal. It is Norway's Olympic title and Korea could not quite find

1:21:05 > 1:21:10the sprint to pull it back over the last lap. They had just over a

1:21:10 > 1:21:14second to try and make up and they could not quite manage it. Norway,

1:21:14 > 1:21:20what a classy outfit they have been throughout this competition, led by

1:21:20 > 1:21:29Sverre Lunde Pedersen, and they were bronze medallists last year and they

1:21:29 > 1:21:33are now Olympic champions. Despite Korea's best efforts, it's Norway's

1:21:33 > 1:21:40night.

1:21:40 > 1:21:44You can see the Korean unit really working well, but this looks like

1:21:44 > 1:21:50almost a mirror. The right arms swinging to perfection. Pedersen

1:21:50 > 1:21:57just looking down to the ground, you can see the skates behind him.But

1:21:57 > 1:22:01it doesn't look like he's panicking at any point. He's calm, leads from

1:22:01 > 1:22:12the front in every sense of the word here.Totally in control.

1:22:15 > 1:22:19Despite the roaring and the best efforts of the vast majority of the

1:22:19 > 1:22:23crowd in here, they were a little bit quieter at the end of the race

1:22:23 > 1:22:28than they were at the start. But very worthy winners. The result of

1:22:28 > 1:22:31the men's team pursuit, the gold medal going to Norway.

1:22:31 > 1:22:37Korea taking silver. STUDIO: things did go a bit quiet

1:22:37 > 1:22:40there, the home crowd rather stand there. It was the Norwegians who

1:22:40 > 1:22:46spoiled the South Korean's party, that was Norway's 13th gold of the

1:22:46 > 1:22:50games, it equals their best in a single games. Just one short of the

1:22:50 > 1:22:5514 set by Canada at their own games in Vancouver. So potentially a

1:22:55 > 1:23:03record breaking games for Norway in the offing. Good afternoon!

1:23:03 > 1:23:08As you may remember, four years ago it was Russians who topped the medal

1:23:08 > 1:23:14table but the subsequent doping scandal meant that 170 athletes are

1:23:14 > 1:23:17competing in Pyeongchang under a neutral flag. Until this point they

1:23:17 > 1:23:23had one for silver and nine

1:23:25 > 1:23:27had one for silver and nine bronze, the Russian macro, but no gold so

1:23:27 > 1:23:32all the attention falls squarely at the shoulders of two teenagers at

1:23:32 > 1:23:35the start of the skating event today. This is one of the most

1:23:35 > 1:23:42keenly contested rivalries of the whole games. Yesterday, the elegant

1:23:42 > 1:23:4718-year-old Evgenia Medvedeva. And Alina Zagitova, three years her

1:23:47 > 1:23:56junior, take to the ice in the figure skating. No slip-ups for the

1:23:56 > 1:24:00curling team, would it be both in the play-offs?

1:24:00 > 1:24:07Lindsey Vonn has waited eight years for another crack at an Olympic gold

1:24:07 > 1:24:14in what she said likely to be her last game. And expect the unexpected

1:24:14 > 1:24:18when we enter the wonderful world of men's ski cross.

1:24:18 > 1:24:29Stand by as big air makes and entrance is some jaw-dropping moves

1:24:29 > 1:24:32and fabulous views. Jayne Torvill is also flying solo

1:24:32 > 1:24:38today, appropriate as it is the lady's individual event, it is still

1:24:38 > 1:24:45lady, eight of 14 events, officially a ladies competition. But today it

1:24:45 > 1:24:48is the turn of the teenagers, what do you make of this budding rivalry

1:24:48 > 1:24:53between the two kids come in effect? They're not even ladies, their

1:24:53 > 1:24:59girls!It's amazing, they have the same code so there will definitely

1:24:59 > 1:25:04be a rivalry. They will push each other and raise the standard -- they

1:25:04 > 1:25:08have the same coach. How much would you have fancied life as an

1:25:08 > 1:25:12individual performance rather than in tandem in ice dance? Did you ever

1:25:12 > 1:25:17have any expectations of doing anything like that? When you start

1:25:17 > 1:25:19skating, you tend to skate on your own until you are partnered with

1:25:19 > 1:25:25someone. I did a few competition locally on my own. I don't know, I

1:25:25 > 1:25:29realised that jumping wasn't the most natural thing for me. I did

1:25:29 > 1:25:33attempt a triple at some point, but never did one.Very wise! You have

1:25:33 > 1:25:40already been on the ice today, so 6am ice time?Yes, we had an anyone

1:25:40 > 1:25:44today to get private time to get ready for the tour that we're doing

1:25:44 > 1:25:49in the future.-- we had an early one. You've already done your

1:25:49 > 1:25:56exercise and/or going to enjoy a look through the back catalogue.

1:25:56 > 1:26:00We're talking about a very young women but we're going to take you

1:26:00 > 1:26:07back to when you are 20 or 21, first world title in a run of four,

1:26:07 > 1:26:10Hartford Connecticut, enjoy our time out today from the World

1:26:10 > 1:26:12Championships of 1981.

1:26:25 > 1:26:35Four minutes to decide the gold medal.

1:27:31 > 1:27:36Very neat change in the tempo of the music. They are skating with

1:27:36 > 1:27:39remarkable assurance. They seemed to have grown in confidence since that

1:27:39 > 1:27:41European victory.

1:29:31 > 1:29:39The last change of music.

1:30:36 > 1:30:38APPLAUSE

1:30:41 > 1:30:46That is it, four minutes of very fine free dancing.

1:30:46 > 1:30:50That was the pre-programme that will set the standard for the medals in

1:30:50 > 1:30:55this 1981 World Championship.

1:30:55 > 1:30:56set the standard for the medals in this 1981 World Championship.

1:30:56 > 1:31:00Illegal, the first taste of global success for Torvill and Dean. Can

1:31:00 > 1:31:07you imagine having been so accomplished that 1518 years of age?

1:31:07 > 1:31:10We did not start skating together until he was 15 and I was 16, so

1:31:10 > 1:31:18that is when our journey started, but I do remember with this World

1:31:18 > 1:31:21Championship but we had won the European Championship prior to that,

1:31:21 > 1:31:25a month earlier, and we didn't expect, we thought we would get

1:31:25 > 1:31:31bronze, so it was a shock to ourselves in first place, so there

1:31:31 > 1:31:39is no way to go other than down. As Alan weeks said, we had set the

1:31:39 > 1:31:44standard for the top group because we were first to skate in the top

1:31:44 > 1:31:48group, and we could not be to hang around the area to listen to

1:31:48 > 1:31:52anything that was happening, so we walked out into a shopping mall that

1:31:52 > 1:31:57it was joined on two, came back into the dressing room, and our coach

1:31:57 > 1:32:02Betty was the, but did not say anything to us. We were like, we

1:32:02 > 1:32:06kept looking at each other and thinking, what has happened? Someone

1:32:06 > 1:32:11has probably beaten us. In the end, she came out and said, well done,

1:32:11 > 1:32:19and that was it. Did we win? She said, of course you did.And that

1:32:19 > 1:32:25was the start of the journey for you up to 1984. You mentioned the

1:32:25 > 1:32:32European champions. In these two youngsters, the 18-year-old has been

1:32:32 > 1:32:39a World Champion, but her training partner, and and it is the first

1:32:39 > 1:32:43time she had been beaten in two years. How can you imagine the

1:32:43 > 1:32:52dynamic evolving on the same ayes at the same time?

1:32:52 > 1:32:58the same time?It must be difficult because you have this young girl

1:32:58 > 1:33:03coming into the space, she is tiny and can rotate quickly, but it is

1:33:03 > 1:33:08still pushing the 18-year-old to do better. The last time we were so

1:33:08 > 1:33:13focused on a two horse race was 1984, Tonya Harding and Nancy

1:33:13 > 1:33:18Kerrigan of the United States, and then the Ukrainian came on and stole

1:33:18 > 1:33:24it from both of them.Yes, Nancy Kerrigan did not look too happy when

1:33:24 > 1:33:29she was accepting her silver medal. There might be others in this

1:33:29 > 1:33:37contest, it could be a Russian one, to. This is the start of the two

1:33:37 > 1:33:42elements of the Lady's individual. We are in the company of Robin

1:33:42 > 1:33:47Cousins and Catherine Downes.

1:33:47 > 1:33:48We are in the company of Robin Cousins and Catherine Downes.

1:33:48 > 1:33:53You wriggle with the Japanese national silver medallist, making

1:33:53 > 1:33:59her debut on the senior circuit this year.

1:34:01 > 1:34:05year. This is their number to skater.

1:35:58 > 1:36:07A triple flip, triple toe loop, absolutely glorious.

1:36:12 > 1:36:22absolutely glorious. Triple

1:36:50 > 1:36:53Well, it was gold and silver for the Japanese men. The women have their

1:36:53 > 1:37:00work cut out to emulate that success, but that was a good start

1:37:00 > 1:37:04from Kaori Sakamoto.17 years old coming into her first year as a

1:37:04 > 1:37:11senior, and the quality of the elements is fantastic. No question

1:37:11 > 1:37:14for the rotations on any of the jumps. Level falls for every

1:37:14 > 1:37:28element.And you best, that is a lead of almost nine points over

1:37:28 > 1:37:33Brady

1:37:34 > 1:37:47Brady from the United States. Nagasu, what have you got for us

1:37:47 > 1:37:54today, she became the first woman to land a triple axel at the Olympic

1:37:54 > 1:37:59Games. She has warming up -- been warming up the triple axel for this,

1:37:59 > 1:38:07will she go for it?

1:38:33 > 1:38:42That is a shame, I have a feeling that will be a deduction as well.

1:38:45 > 1:38:48Ready for the triple toe combination. Triple flip. Triple toe

1:38:48 > 1:38:59loop. Lovely.

1:39:38 > 1:39:46The landing was a little scratchy on the triple loop.

1:40:51 > 1:40:57No risk, no reward. And she went for the triple axel. Didn't quite work

1:40:57 > 1:41:00out for her.Even with the mistake, she still gets more points for it

1:41:00 > 1:41:05than she would have if she had just done the double. The double axel

1:41:05 > 1:41:10base score is 3.63.

1:41:12 > 1:41:17base score is 3.63. And with the plus points, that gave her 4.6. The

1:41:17 > 1:41:26base score for the triple axel is 8.50, and with one deduction she

1:41:26 > 1:41:37still got 5.5. It was really very strong, she went for it, Nagasu.

1:41:37 > 1:41:42That is her season's best, and she goes to second place behind Kaori

1:41:42 > 1:41:47Sakamoto of Japan. Off to the practice rink for Nagasu, to see if

1:41:47 > 1:41:52she can polish up the triple axel for the long programme.

1:41:55 > 1:42:07The green flags are flying for Choi Da-bin in, the Korean number two.

1:42:07 > 1:42:14She finished ninth in her last competition, but she put in a lovely

1:42:14 > 1:42:18performance on the opening day of competition.

1:42:44 > 1:42:57Triple lutes, triple toe loop. That is the start she would have wanted.

1:43:51 > 1:44:06Triple flip. Light and easy. One more jump, double axel.

1:44:53 > 1:45:05Yes! That is the way to do it.And other cool job. She is thriving in

1:45:05 > 1:45:13the atmosphere at her home Olympics, Choi Da-bin.

1:45:17 > 1:45:25Choi Da-bin. They all had skating skills, but components in the mid to

1:45:25 > 1:45:29high sevens. Again, I would have expected something into the eighth

1:45:29 > 1:45:43somewhere.She slots in just behind Gabrielle Bell man of Canada --

1:45:43 > 1:45:52Gabrielle Daleman of Canada and the crowd like that result.

1:45:52 > 1:45:53crowd like that result. Back-to-back world titles, back-to-back European

1:45:53 > 1:45:59titles. And ever since she made her mark on the senior circuit, she has

1:45:59 > 1:46:04been favourite for this Olympic title. But she was pipped to the

1:46:04 > 1:46:11European crown by her 15-year-old countrywoman. She is as to claim her

1:46:11 > 1:46:18first stop. -- she is come back to claim her first slot.

1:47:40 > 1:47:47First of the jumping passes. Triple flip, triple toe loop.

1:48:06 > 1:48:15There's the triple loop.

1:48:54 > 1:49:04Beautiful lay back to finish.

1:49:05 > 1:49:09It's perfection again, I have never seen this girl put a foot wrong. She

1:49:09 > 1:49:16doubled the potential score with the judges in the step sequence. That

1:49:16 > 1:49:22signature jump style, her arm of the cover her head. Which originally --

1:49:22 > 1:49:26up above her head.It used to be a feature but now everyone is doing it

1:49:26 > 1:49:37so it's no longer special. 81.61. It's a new world record. And Evgenia

1:49:37 > 1:49:43Medvedeva gets her first foot on top of the podium. A new world record

1:49:43 > 1:49:46score, first position in qualifying. And it's going to have to be utter

1:49:46 > 1:49:53brilliance that beat that.

1:49:53 > 1:49:57Satoko Miyahara, the Japanese national champion. She's been

1:49:57 > 1:50:01struggling with injury this season. Only started jumping again in

1:50:01 > 1:50:07October. We saw her skate absolutely beautifully in the team event. Japan

1:50:07 > 1:50:14finishing in fifth position.

1:50:36 > 1:50:40Triple lots, triple toe loop, she wanted and that is what she got. --

1:50:40 > 1:50:45triple

1:50:48 > 1:50:51triple z.

1:51:41 > 1:51:43A beautiful triple loop.

1:52:38 > 1:52:44Nice and light and easy in the triple axel. How's that for a

1:52:44 > 1:52:52laid-back position? Exquisite.

1:52:54 > 1:53:02Absolutely beautiful from Satoko Miyahara, they already have a

1:53:02 > 1:53:08skating in the top three, Sakamoto. They are looking to be in the match,

1:53:08 > 1:53:13the Japanese.

1:53:14 > 1:53:16the Japanese.Triple Lutz, she will sometimes get elements downgraded

1:53:16 > 1:53:25but she was fully rotated today.A new season's best for Satoko

1:53:25 > 1:53:31Miyahara. She slots into second place behind Evgenia Medvedeva. The

1:53:31 > 1:53:41Japanese in the mixing it comes to Friday's free dance. Kaetlyn Osmond,

1:53:41 > 1:53:47part of the Canadian team that won the gold in the team event. She won

1:53:47 > 1:53:51team silver in Sochi as well. World silver medallist last time round,

1:53:51 > 1:53:57just behind Evgenia Medvedeva.

1:53:58 > 1:54:01just behind Evgenia Medvedeva. And there were mistakes in the short

1:54:01 > 1:54:06programme for her in the team event. She will want and need to go

1:54:06 > 1:54:10absolutely cleanly here with every element will stop if she wants to

1:54:10 > 1:54:17have a potential podium spot. Start with accommodation. Triple flip,

1:54:17 > 1:54:25triple toe loop, that is a cracker.

1:54:45 > 1:54:50And that is the triple Lutz.

1:55:25 > 1:55:32And the double axel.

1:56:43 > 1:56:46Well, but is more like the performers that won her world silver

1:56:46 > 1:56:56medal last year.Absolutely.-- that is more like the performance. A

1:56:56 > 1:57:04beautiful and light on the triple flip, easy rotation. Leg back, nice

1:57:04 > 1:57:09running edge out. Sometimes you can get an edge call on the take-off of

1:57:09 > 1:57:18the Lutz but not today.A new season's best for Kaetlyn Osmond,

1:57:18 > 1:57:2578.87. She is into second position behind Evgenia Medvedeva. A world

1:57:25 > 1:57:30record score, that is going to take some beating. Brilliant from Kaetlyn

1:57:30 > 1:57:37Osmond, a brilliant position going into the free skate on Friday. So,

1:57:37 > 1:57:4815 years old, and the one to watch at these games. Cause that massive

1:57:48 > 1:57:55upset in the Europeans and beat Medvedeva to take the title, the

1:57:55 > 1:58:02British new start in women's figure skating, looking to outshine her and

1:58:02 > 1:58:04steal the gold.She is unbeaten since becoming a junior world

1:58:04 > 1:58:11champion.

1:59:28 > 1:59:35She has the hardest combination of all of the ladies, triple Lutz,

1:59:35 > 1:59:38triple loop jump and that was absolutely fantastic.

1:59:54 > 2:00:00There's the triple flip.

2:00:05 > 2:00:12And the double axel.

2:00:37 > 2:00:44Absolutely glorious. How anyone can out prodigy Evgenia Medvedeva I

2:00:44 > 2:00:47don't know. This girl can.She has been doing it since she was a

2:00:47 > 2:00:52junior. She doesn't have quite the skate skating component scores that

2:00:52 > 2:00:56Medvedeva will have. She will probably slot nicely into second

2:00:56 > 2:01:00place. It will be in that tech programme and that tech score. There

2:01:00 > 2:01:04is the triple Lutz and the triple loop. That is what she will need to

2:01:04 > 2:01:12do in the Free Programme with a few more jump elements to get the score

2:01:12 > 2:01:18and beat Medvedeva technically and get those points that she won't get

2:01:18 > 2:01:24from the components. Probably isn't expected to be ahead of her in the

2:01:24 > 2:01:28Short Programme for that very reason. But goodness me, what one

2:01:28 > 2:01:36can do the other says - I can do better.

2:01:36 > 2:01:42better.82.92. That is Medvedeva's world record already broken. It

2:01:42 > 2:01:48stood for all of, what, five minutes. Alina Zagitova has said to

2:01:48 > 2:01:51her countrywoman, you know what, I see your world record, Medvedeva,

2:01:51 > 2:01:59and I raise it. I'm after your gold medal. Evgenia Medvedeva pushed down

2:01:59 > 2:02:06into second position. The 15-year-old up into first.Looking

2:02:06 > 2:02:10at the coach's face. Wondering how she will have to cope with these two

2:02:10 > 2:02:16ladies on a day off when they will be around each other training

2:02:16 > 2:02:21together, keep them calm and focused. This competition is heating

2:02:21 > 2:02:27up in just the way we hoped, Robin. Absolutely. It's not over yet.No,

2:02:27 > 2:02:30we have Friday yet to come. I can't wait to see those two go

2:02:30 > 2:02:38head-to-head. Right then, Carolina Kostner of Italy. 31 years old, the

2:02:38 > 2:02:50grande dame of this competition. What have you got?

2:03:04 > 2:03:09Kostner's combination, triple flip and double toe loop. She wanted the

2:03:09 > 2:03:15triple, but knew that flip didn't land exactly the way she needed it,

2:03:15 > 2:03:22so played safe, played smart.

2:03:28 > 2:03:36Hand down on the triple loop.

2:04:13 > 2:04:18Easy double axel.

2:05:27 > 2:05:31Lovely classical skating, but it's very, very difficult to follow a

2:05:31 > 2:05:37world record.Body rotating there around to her right, really not

2:05:37 > 2:05:42ready to be able to take off the triple. That was smart. Again,

2:05:42 > 2:05:46leaning forward. She's going to be on that toe pick on the landing.

2:05:46 > 2:05:51There's the hand going down. So again, you're giving away small

2:05:51 > 2:05:57points, but collectively they add up.73.15 then for Carolina Kostner.

2:05:57 > 2:06:02She is really going to have to fight if she wants to make it on to the

2:06:02 > 2:06:10podium. Just like she did with bronze, four years ago in Sochi. So

2:06:10 > 2:06:15our final skater then of this Ladies Short Programme competition, it is

2:06:15 > 2:06:21the World Junior Silver-medallists, Maria Sotskova, fourth at the recent

2:06:21 > 2:06:24Europeans, behind of course her countrywomen, Medvedeva and

2:06:24 > 2:06:36Zagitova. She was beaten in the Grand Prix final. So very much the

2:06:36 > 2:06:40third Russian skater here.

2:07:03 > 2:07:07Triple Lutz, most of that rotation on the way down from the jump, you

2:07:07 > 2:07:17need to do it on the way up.

2:07:53 > 2:08:01Triple flip, triple toe loop. Well done, Maria Sotskova, you have just

2:08:01 > 2:08:07saved some big points.

2:09:19 > 2:09:22Maria Sotskova overshadowed bye-bye the brilliance of her countrywomen

2:09:22 > 2:09:28in this Short Programme competition. Points left out on the ice there.I

2:09:28 > 2:09:32just don't feel she commands your attention when she's on the ice.

2:09:32 > 2:09:38It's lovely. It's nice. She's very sound and technically normally very

2:09:38 > 2:09:43consistent, but loose with that left arm. Right leg still wrapped heavily

2:09:43 > 2:09:46around the body before she was landing. Again, the rotation was

2:09:46 > 2:09:50happening on the way down. You need to start the rotation the second,

2:09:50 > 2:09:54millisecond you leave the ice. There's the flip. Did well to get

2:09:54 > 2:10:03the second jump from that landing. 63.86. It is very expensive for

2:10:03 > 2:10:11Maria Sotskova. She is down into 12th.But this is how it stands

2:10:11 > 2:10:15after the short programme. The 15-year-old, Alina Zagitova, in pole

2:10:15 > 2:10:20position with two huge world records from both her and her training

2:10:20 > 2:10:29partner, Evgenia Medvedeva. With Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond in bronze.

2:10:29 > 2:10:33The Free Programme that will decide the gold, silver and bronze on

2:10:33 > 2:10:42Friday. Who huge world records.Yes. What, for you, makes these two young

2:10:42 > 2:10:45Russians far ahead of everybody else out there? They have the technical

2:10:45 > 2:10:49content. I think, you know, our little 15-year-old, I think, not

2:10:49 > 2:10:58only does she have the jumps, but her spins. The way she centres the

2:10:58 > 2:11:04spins and the speed of them. That is impressive. The older of the two,

2:11:04 > 2:11:10the 18-year-old, double world champion, the Washington Post

2:11:10 > 2:11:14described them as "part ballerina and part butterfly who tricked their

2:11:14 > 2:11:20audience into believing that what they do is simply too beautiful to

2:11:20 > 2:11:25be sport." How did this routine compare to Zagitova? Both of them

2:11:25 > 2:11:29were saving their jumps until the second part of the routine. You get

2:11:29 > 2:11:33to a point when you are expecting jumps. They get more points by doing

2:11:33 > 2:11:40them later in the routine. Which is a fairly new rule. Mostly, previous

2:11:40 > 2:11:44years they would get the jumps out of the way while they are fresh and

2:11:44 > 2:11:47they are concentrated. Once they have the jumps out of the way they

2:11:47 > 2:11:51can relax more. Now the judges are giving more points for doing the

2:11:51 > 2:11:57jumps later. That in itself is OK. It's making the programmes look

2:11:57 > 2:12:01really unbalanced. You are expecting jumps throughout and

2:12:01 > 2:12:05choreographically for me it doesn't quite work. I think they need to

2:12:05 > 2:12:05have a

2:12:05 > 2:12:07quite work. I think they need to have a look that ruleIt's supposed

2:12:07 > 2:12:11to be a balanced programme.Yes. There is a kink in the rules at the

2:12:11 > 2:12:15moment which is rewarding more technical effort in the latter part.

2:12:15 > 2:12:18Your legs are more tired at that point. Is it more of an effort to

2:12:18 > 2:12:23pull that off?Yeah, I guess so. Two ways of looking at it. If you manage

2:12:23 > 2:12:27to have a bit more of of a skate around, do your foot work etc you

2:12:27 > 2:12:31are feeling the ice more and into the ice more. In a Short Programme

2:12:31 > 2:12:34you will not be exhausted because it's short, it's not that long. It's

2:12:34 > 2:12:38not like the Free Programme. It don't quite work for me. I hope they

2:12:38 > 2:12:47change it.OK. This is the younger of the two, Zagitova. Some

2:12:47 > 2:12:53commentators are saying she looks more mature and assured of the two.

2:12:53 > 2:13:00Are you in agreement? She was more sure footed in everything she did.

2:13:00 > 2:13:04Moved rapidly over the ice. She's a little firecracker really.Is that

2:13:04 > 2:13:08what separates the two of these women for you, is the energy levels

2:13:08 > 2:13:13or... What would you in essence say is the difference? It's close. You

2:13:13 > 2:13:18would think the younger has learnt a lot from the older one, you know.

2:13:18 > 2:13:23Ironically, she's now beating her. How does that feel when you are 18

2:13:23 > 2:13:27and you have this little 15-year-old coming up. I do think she definitely

2:13:27 > 2:13:32has the edge. She has something special. She looks like she has no

2:13:32 > 2:13:36fear in performance or anything. That was the case Wen we saw them in

2:13:36 > 2:13:43the team competition at the start. She didn't look phased at all. There

2:13:43 > 2:13:49is only a point between them for gold and silver. It's a kind of, and

2:13:49 > 2:13:55also-rans for the rest of the placings, particularly for the

2:13:55 > 2:14:05American skaters. The USA is calling it a "splatt fest."In the previous

2:14:05 > 2:14:12Olympics there has been a contender from the USA. This time, no.This is

2:14:12 > 2:14:19the top-ranked American. She is ninth. The worse collective

2:14:19 > 2:14:24performance since the Short programme introo deuced in 1976.

2:14:24 > 2:14:29This is a problem. The timings for the whole sport, staging the finals

2:14:29 > 2:14:35in the mornings have largely been dictated by US TV ratings.

2:14:35 > 2:14:39Absolutely. The final of the ladies will be very exciting because the

2:14:39 > 2:14:44pressure is going to be on for the two Russian girls. If they both make

2:14:44 > 2:14:48mistakes through the pressure, the Canadians are ready to jump in

2:14:48 > 2:14:54there. It's fascinating and very beautiful. I must say. The Free

2:14:54 > 2:14:59Programme is on Friday. Jayne and I will do our Ladies at Lunchtime

2:14:59 > 2:15:05review for that. I look forward to it.Thank you.The mists are

2:15:05 > 2:15:11clearing in the curling because the men and women knew if they won their

2:15:11 > 2:15:15last Round Robin match they were into the semi-finals and a chance to

2:15:15 > 2:15:24go for the medals. For Eve Muirhead's rink they had a very,

2:15:24 > 2:15:28very fiery encounter against defending champions Canada. Rachel

2:15:28 > 2:15:32Homan had two matches, first against Great Britain. Let us show what

2:15:32 > 2:15:41turned out to be what they are calling the shot of the tournament.

2:15:43 > 2:15:49This was Eve Muirhead pulling something special out of the bag. It

2:15:49 > 2:15:53is a pistol shot, it removed two Canadian stones, it was a raised

2:15:53 > 2:16:00double takeout and that meant the Canadians were restricted to one,

2:16:00 > 2:16:05Canada got that one shot. GB bot the hammer in the final end. How would

2:16:05 > 2:16:11this turn out?

2:16:12 > 2:16:18this turn out? -- got P

2:16:31 > 2:16:34Stone placement on every hot now is critical.

2:16:34 > 2:16:40Want to bring this as far as they can.

2:16:40 > 2:16:43Still come, still coming in. Still coming in.

2:16:43 > 2:16:48And just taps that off the side, that is a nice shot, we have two

2:16:48 > 2:16:54yellows lined up there. Good sweeping there, Anna Sloan working

2:16:54 > 2:17:02very hard, breathing heavy. Who said curling's not a physical sport?

2:17:15 > 2:17:19Nobody can question the commitment these girls have put in on the ice

2:17:19 > 2:17:26here today. Both soids desperately wanting the win. But who wants it

2:17:26 > 2:17:40more? -- sides. Let's watch this stone finish up.

2:17:41 > 2:17:46While we are watching that one come in the Swedish team have confirmed

2:17:46 > 2:17:50their participation in the semifinal, they have one more match

2:17:50 > 2:17:58to play. Play. There was a nice little dance from a contingent of

2:17:58 > 2:18:04Swedish men, in blue and yellow, very happy. How happy will British

2:18:04 > 2:18:10fans be after this one? Yoef trying to conjure up an opportunity for

2:18:10 > 2:18:18two. -- Eve. Two in there.

2:18:18 > 2:18:20Eve trying to conjure up an opportunity for two. -- Eve.

2:18:20 > 2:18:26Two in there. I had one up here early. I won't do

2:18:26 > 2:18:38too much. I think I like this better.OK.OK.So both teams have

2:18:38 > 2:18:44used their time out so both the skips have to choose the shots. They

2:18:44 > 2:18:48have to be assertive and pick the right shot, and then as you were

2:18:48 > 2:18:59saying it is about making sure thaw the execution is spot on. That

2:18:59 > 2:19:04result for Sweden, just very quickly to confirm, it means China cannot

2:19:04 > 2:19:15qualify. That is what Eve wanted. Exactly

2:19:15 > 2:19:22what she wanted. She's got one in the button and two

2:19:22 > 2:19:32above it, just protecting them. So Emma has to play a couple of good

2:19:32 > 2:19:38shot hearse to give Rachel Holman at least something... You heard what

2:19:38 > 2:19:44she said there, important to keep the shooter...I think I might have

2:19:44 > 2:19:49been tempted to go for the other one, a simpler double, leaving only

2:19:49 > 2:19:55one...This will leave a British stone in, isn't it?Yes.But she

2:19:55 > 2:20:00said she wants the shooter to stay on top.

2:20:00 > 2:20:09If she slides off the side of it, and doesn't

2:20:09 > 2:20:13and doesn't look high... It has to get past the guard. It doesn't. It

2:20:13 > 2:20:23doesn't. What a mistake from Emma, she does final live up to her name.

2:20:23 > 2:20:33First time. Can't believe it.

2:20:33 > 2:20:35First time. Can't believe it.That was a tougher shot. She was

2:20:35 > 2:20:38scramming the yellow on to the yellow. She would be sitting in

2:20:38 > 2:20:46front of it. I might have been tempting to take the other yellow,

2:20:46 > 2:20:49straight back, take both of them. You are lying in the front, but of

2:20:49 > 2:20:54course with kissing that red slightly cross now, you have closed

2:20:54 > 2:20:58that option off to yourself, you have, however, opened up the other

2:20:58 > 2:21:03side.It is getting hot in here. Family watching. That is the

2:21:03 > 2:21:14parents. Anna's mum. Eve's mum and the Wall dells.

2:21:14 > 2:21:22-- Waddell. They have a good view of this. They will have no nails left.

2:21:22 > 2:21:27I'm getting hot in here.I think that's a song, is it?It can be, if

2:21:27 > 2:21:39you want it to be, yes. Let's not get carried away.

2:21:39 > 2:21:43So Emma Miskew didn't play a good shot last time but got a chance to

2:21:43 > 2:21:47move things round a bit here. She will have to drive that shot into

2:21:47 > 2:21:54the pack n the house.Anything can happen.

2:21:57 > 2:22:02So Emma Miskew trying to improve the situation for Canada. She might have

2:22:02 > 2:22:10got that bit thin.Well she moves that Canadian stone off the side.

2:22:10 > 2:22:16That is a clutch of four stones in there for Great Britain, and they

2:22:16 > 2:22:23are so tightly packed, they are sitting above the T-line as well.

2:22:23 > 2:22:26Things look difficult for Rachel Holman.Yes, at this precise moment

2:22:26 > 2:22:36in time I think she needs a helicopter.

2:22:36 > 2:22:40Protect this, something in front? It a strange one, it kinds of goes

2:22:40 > 2:22:44against the Graham. You have the hammer, they are sitting so well in

2:22:44 > 2:23:01there at the moment. Like that, just on the center line.

2:23:07 > 2:23:14OK Anna.Remember we have last stone here. Whatever we can close this up

2:23:14 > 2:23:26and make it really difficult for Canada.

2:23:33 > 2:23:43Come on Anna, she just wants to have a look. Whisper...That is typically

2:23:43 > 2:23:47opposite of the Canadian, they would be happily telling you what the

2:23:47 > 2:23:55opposition could and couldn't do. Whereas we are quite quiet.

2:23:55 > 2:23:59She needs to move the stones.Back to Plan A.

2:23:59 > 2:24:04I think the problem I am reading this is Anna's not sure which

2:24:04 > 2:24:10Weymouth to come in, we know where Eve would like to stone but I'm not

2:24:10 > 2:24:14sure nan's comfortable with which way she's going to come in here.She

2:24:14 > 2:24:18has to come in down the out-turn which is anticlockwise, as we are

2:24:18 > 2:24:24looking from the left-hand side. Yes. She can't get to where Eve

2:24:24 > 2:24:30wants the other way, I'm not sure she is comfortable playing this. Let

2:24:30 > 2:24:39us hope she gets it right. Anna Sloan wants to sit on top, a bit out

2:24:39 > 2:24:48of house, close to the center line. 3, 4. Three would be good.

2:24:48 > 2:24:53Three mean just outside the house. Want to pull it now to fete the

2:24:53 > 2:25:02angle off that red. Oddly enough that is not bad because

2:25:02 > 2:25:07of way that red is sitting just off the side there. She is, she has to

2:25:07 > 2:25:11come down and shift these around, I mean this is their Olympic Games

2:25:11 > 2:25:18here, right here. Rachel Holman fighting for her life,

2:25:18 > 2:25:24in terms of this Olympic tournament, for her team, and for her nation,

2:25:24 > 2:25:29they have never ever not made it through to the semifinals. She has

2:25:29 > 2:25:34two stones left. There are four British stones between the first

2:25:34 > 2:25:40Canadian stone and that button. She has no other option than to move the

2:25:40 > 2:25:44stones round and hope that things fall nicely for her, Eve Muirhead

2:25:44 > 2:25:51still has two of course to come. Raven Rachel hole than with real

2:25:51 > 2:25:56intent. She needs to give that bit of welly. Technical term. This is

2:25:56 > 2:26:02the shot she likes though. That is out wide. She sprung two of them.

2:26:02 > 2:26:08The point I was make even that top yellow for Britain, the fact she's

2:26:08 > 2:26:15left that in there, you can even just tap that if in Eve has won.

2:26:15 > 2:26:22Won. That is still protecting those two. Canada are lying three, third

2:26:22 > 2:26:27shot.

2:26:38 > 2:26:43It's got very quiet in the arena. They are all trying to listen. She

2:26:43 > 2:26:49is forced in the she only dos here. That is my only...You couldn't play

2:26:49 > 2:26:55the small bump on this, is that sillyIt's not silly. Eve doesn't

2:26:55 > 2:26:59want her to allow her to get in there, if she can. Don't give her

2:26:59 > 2:27:04the chance of the draw. If she wants to move the stones round, fine, you

2:27:04 > 2:27:08have plenty of yellows, just don't allow her a draw round the outside

2:27:08 > 2:27:14to come in and sit shot SShe would be struggling to sit shot. She would

2:27:14 > 2:27:19be, or force the one. The girls, the girls have chosen not

2:27:19 > 2:27:25to come from the right-hand side, in, they have chopsen to come from

2:27:25 > 2:27:31the left-hand side across the centre.

2:27:38 > 2:27:43Edge of it.She will wants this to come, I believe right into the eight

2:27:43 > 2:27:52foot. Yes. Which also takes off the draw for

2:27:52 > 2:27:57Rachel hole man and forces her to play like a triple taker.Eve would

2:27:57 > 2:28:06have this one on the other side. As long as she gets this right.

2:28:06 > 2:28:09This still needs come in as far as she can. They are going to have to

2:28:09 > 2:28:15sweep this hard. It has not got much on it. Really got to get into the

2:28:15 > 2:28:21eight foot.It has to be biting.A bit more, a bit more. Oh no.There

2:28:21 > 2:28:26is Sabac red in there as well.A back red. The only thing is if she

2:28:26 > 2:28:30tries this triple take out the chances of her not hitting that red

2:28:30 > 2:28:36are slim.It looks like she is not thinking about it.She wants to draw

2:28:36 > 2:28:47in here. That is when we crashed.I think...

2:28:47 > 2:28:51I think you wouldn't have crashed if your weight had been there. So when

2:28:51 > 2:28:56she says she crashed, she caught that guard on the way through and I

2:28:56 > 2:29:05missed you. But she obviously doesn't want to catch that British

2:29:05 > 2:29:11yellow, that Eve Ju played. She is giving it plenty of ice, she has to

2:29:11 > 2:29:16come in, she sill has to get very close with this.Maybe she should

2:29:16 > 2:29:22have played the triple. Everybody's got that hands on their heart at the

2:29:22 > 2:29:30moment.. This is it. No more charges last stone for Canada.Last chance

2:29:30 > 2:29:40for Rachel hole man. Eve Muirhead watching.I bet you

2:29:40 > 2:29:47heart rate high. Just try to stay calm, trying to survive. This will

2:29:47 > 2:29:55keep Dan in the game or put Great Britain into a play off place.

2:29:55 > 2:30:00Because we are sitting might on the for a foot. Rachel watching, she

2:30:00 > 2:30:06wants to come in, she has got to lie second stone, she's watching it. She

2:30:06 > 2:30:12is high. It's starting to turn in. Has it got the weight. This is it.

2:30:12 > 2:30:18Great Britain are going to win this. It's not going to get there. The

2:30:18 > 2:30:23handshakes mean that Great Britain have won this match, a superb

2:30:23 > 2:30:27performance from Eve Muirhead and her team, and Anna Sloan knew she

2:30:27 > 2:30:32has struggled through that match, finally the last three ends all four

2:30:32 > 2:30:36of them cape together, a superb team performance, brilliantly led by Eve

2:30:36 > 2:30:42Muirhead with some stunning shots.

2:30:42 > 2:30:48Stunning shots indeed. Eve and her rink into the semi-finals along with

2:30:48 > 2:30:54South Korea, Sweden and Japan. It means that Great Britain will now

2:30:54 > 2:30:58play Sweden in the semi-final in the second of the semi-finals with South

2:30:58 > 2:31:06Korea taking on Japan in the first. Isn't Rhona Howie chipper about

2:31:06 > 2:31:11that. You said that Eve Muirheadside a different animal when it comes to

2:31:11 > 2:31:16the later stages. Wele talked about the pressure of getting through

2:31:16 > 2:31:19these Round Robin matches. How do you assess that performance under

2:31:19 > 2:31:21the greatest pressure she faced so far?

2:31:21 > 2:31:25the greatest pressure she faced so far?Was a must It win for both

2:31:25 > 2:31:30countries. Eve called a good tactical game. They were trying for

2:31:30 > 2:31:35two the whole game with the last stone. They took it in the eighth

2:31:35 > 2:31:41end. Went into nine wanting to force Canada to take one. Well, what a

2:31:41 > 2:31:47shot.Pistol shot.Yeah. Canada were looking at getting a two before that

2:31:47 > 2:31:52shot. That is a crucial part in the game. By Eve making this shot and

2:31:52 > 2:31:57the key here is that Britain lay two after the shot. It's not just making

2:31:57 > 2:32:03the shot, but it's also lying two. So there was no shot for Rachel

2:32:03 > 2:32:06Homan to hit for two. She had to draw for one. For Britain to force

2:32:06 > 2:32:09one there by Eve playing that shot was phenomenal. It turned the game

2:32:09 > 2:32:14round. Eve is more than happy to go into the tenth end one down with the

2:32:14 > 2:32:21hammer.It's a double take out in so many respects. Not only has Eve gone

2:32:21 > 2:32:32into the semi-final taken out one

2:32:32 > 2:32:38into the semi-final taken out one of her chief rival.

2:32:39 > 2:32:43her chief rival. Rachel Homan will it be an anorak over her head when

2:32:43 > 2:32:46they get home. They haven't played well fromle day one. They have

2:32:46 > 2:32:50struggled. They are a good team. I'm sure they will come back fighting

2:32:50 > 2:32:55and learn from this. It won't be easy. As a nation they expect to win

2:32:55 > 2:33:02curling medals.

2:33:02 > 2:33:06curling medals.It's effectively your anniversary today, the 21st of

2:33:06 > 2:33:10February 2002 was when the magic happened.It was.The Stone of

2:33:10 > 2:33:17Destiny. I remember this vividly and I wonder what your memories of it

2:33:17 > 2:33:27are?Just glad I had a shot to play. This was really a fairly

2:33:27 > 2:33:33straight-forward shot to play to win.16 years ago. It was the first

2:33:33 > 2:33:41gold since Torvill and Dean in 1984. You and Debbie and Fiona January,

2:33:41 > 2:33:44Janice and Mags and the Stone of Destiny. There has been contact

2:33:44 > 2:33:48between you all on Facebook this morning. Do you rather like Torvil

2:33:48 > 2:33:54and Dean celebrate your golden day? Yeah. We always kind of say happy

2:33:54 > 2:34:03anniversary, etc. We had a tenth anniversary reunionon.

2:34:04 > 2:34:09anniversary reunionon. -- reunion. We might have a 20th in four years'

2:34:09 > 2:34:13time.I have my lucky jumper and I brought it again.I hope you washed

2:34:13 > 2:34:18it after 16 years.It's got a few holes in it now, I'm very hopeful I

2:34:18 > 2:34:25will be able to wear it again. The many permutations in the men's

2:34:25 > 2:34:29rankings were worrying, I must be honest. Kyle Smith and the British

2:34:29 > 2:34:33men knew that like Eve, one win today, one more win today they too

2:34:33 > 2:34:40would go into the semi-finals. They were facing a very John Shuster USA

2:34:40 > 2:34:46rink it was win or bust for him well. Jackie alongside Steve Cram

2:34:46 > 2:34:49for this as we go into the fifth end.

2:34:59 > 2:35:03STEVE CRAM: They work well together. Incredibly good sweepers, Kyle and

2:35:03 > 2:35:08Cammy. It won't get the roll here. They have over cooked it. Too much

2:35:08 > 2:35:13sweeping.

2:35:16 > 2:35:19sweeping.It's getting closer. I think Britain are lying shot there.

2:35:19 > 2:35:23It's very close. That is crucial. Yeah. I think the guys had a quick

2:35:23 > 2:35:28look at it and thought, I heard Shuster saying they were lying two

2:35:28 > 2:35:32shots. That is crucial. We need to keep that situation going at the

2:35:32 > 2:35:37moment if we are to force USA to take a one. When I meant lying shot.

2:35:37 > 2:35:42When they take this red out. Trading on this side. The other one, the

2:35:42 > 2:35:45difference between that one and the other American stone in the house.

2:35:45 > 2:35:53It's tight, it's close, but I think Britain are closer.

2:35:57 > 2:36:02This is curling.Moving. Has it passed the top one sfwlchlt he's got

2:36:02 > 2:36:06his own has he? No. He almost did that too well. Gone behind the other

2:36:06 > 2:36:16one. It's gone past it.

2:36:16 > 2:36:25one. It's gone past it.Got too much action on that one.

2:36:25 > 2:36:28action on that one.He is lying second in third shot here. So we

2:36:28 > 2:36:36have to ensure that we get oneWell, he doesn't want... And also he

2:36:36 > 2:36:42doesn't want to give him the chance, the opportunity to take both reds.

2:36:42 > 2:36:48Anywhere tucked into the four foot would be really good here. Yeah. You

2:36:48 > 2:36:59heard what he said. T-line, not short. I think that's the key. Smart

2:36:59 > 2:37:03thinking this because what's obvious here is that John Shuster, give him

2:37:03 > 2:37:06an opportunity for take out he will take it on. He's been pretty good.

2:37:06 > 2:37:11He missed one last time round. I think that's his favourite shot.

2:37:11 > 2:37:17Make him draw all day long. Make him draw. Physical he can again force

2:37:17 > 2:37:25the one here, brilliant. Don't give him an easy takeout.Yeah, you heard

2:37:25 > 2:37:30Kyle say there he would really like to have played the in turn to this

2:37:30 > 2:37:33because the stagger of the high red and yellow are sitting in a better

2:37:33 > 2:37:37position to come in round behind them. If he didn't get it right he

2:37:37 > 2:37:41would have left the double on that side for them. He's having to come

2:37:41 > 2:37:47round the higher side. We need this to stop. I think it is going to

2:37:47 > 2:37:54stop, though. It's not.

2:37:55 > 2:38:00stop, though. It's not. It's run too far. That needed to sit anywhere in

2:38:00 > 2:38:03the red or white.Has he got a chance of getting his three here?

2:38:03 > 2:38:09Can he move that red and stay?If he can chip that out, he's going to get

2:38:09 > 2:38:17his two.Is it three, though?Yeah, he could possibly gate three because

2:38:17 > 2:38:23I think the yellow is with the back red.Over throne there by the

2:38:23 > 2:38:29British skip. The first real error he's made. He's still got to play a

2:38:29 > 2:38:34really good shot. Let's not forget in the last couple of ends he hasn't

2:38:34 > 2:38:40performed that shot and given the steal up.

2:38:40 > 2:38:48He has to make sure he gets it out of the house.

2:38:50 > 2:38:54Well, that's, you are right, that's the key. He's got to make sure,

2:38:54 > 2:39:00first of all, he hits this stone and Great Britain don't get the steal.

2:39:00 > 2:39:06He'd love to stick in there. He's looking close at the moment when the

2:39:06 > 2:39:13boys are on and off it.Doesn't hit that back one. It looks like three.

2:39:13 > 2:39:19It was three. It gave the US a 5-3 lead. We will rejoin in the eighth

2:39:19 > 2:39:24end with the score 6-4 in favour of the Americans.

2:39:46 > 2:39:52STEVE CRAM: One here wouldn't be disastrous, but it certainly makes

2:39:52 > 2:40:01the job a lot harder. They might get the roll in here. Too much.

2:40:02 > 2:40:06the roll in here. Too much. JACKIE LOCHART:It will lie about in the

2:40:06 > 2:40:11house.When you try to get your two it makes the job a little bit more

2:40:11 > 2:40:21difficult. What was the call there? I think come right round in behind

2:40:21 > 2:40:25the guard. We've got it out there. We've got to try and make it our

2:40:25 > 2:40:32friend.This is the first time they've really tried to come in

2:40:32 > 2:40:40behind it without hitting something. So has Thomas Muirhead got his

2:40:40 > 2:40:44drawing boots on here. That might not be bad. That might not be bad.

2:40:44 > 2:40:47Nicely round the guard. Just wants to slow up about there somewhere.

2:40:47 > 2:40:54Well done.Ideal. As long as it's in there. It's in for first shot, but

2:40:54 > 2:41:02in for second. You put the pressure on USA.

2:41:18 > 2:41:22What if we nose that or peel that. Where do we put it if he doesn't

2:41:22 > 2:41:29want to have the double. So much to think about.

2:41:55 > 2:42:01You see there, I always get that... Tyler George is saying he draws we

2:42:01 > 2:42:09draw. John Shuster, the word "draw", great. As I said, I think, from a

2:42:09 > 2:42:14British perspective, he's probably right, Tyler George. You keep

2:42:14 > 2:42:19thinking that Shuster, he was on about, I'd like to be able to make

2:42:19 > 2:42:26the double. There you can see that. Look at that. The draws 56 periods

2:42:26 > 2:42:36accuracy. 10 takeouts, 83% accuracy. Kyle Smith missed a couple, but he's

2:42:36 > 2:42:43outdrawing the other skip. Still can't make their mind up.I think

2:42:43 > 2:42:46I'm with Tyler George. They've got to get one just in the back eight

2:42:46 > 2:42:54there. Got to be making sure if they want to force the one here, they've

2:42:54 > 2:42:59got to making sure they have a second shot in here. You heard him

2:42:59 > 2:43:04saying he wants to go to nine. The zones, if you like, numbered in

2:43:04 > 2:43:11front of the house, 1, 2, 3. You come in, 4, 5 and 6, the teal, white

2:43:11 > 2:43:15and then into the red. Past seven, the button, eight and nine out the

2:43:15 > 2:43:21other side. Nine would be at the back of the eight foot, tucked in

2:43:21 > 2:43:30behind those two reds, if you can. He's got a bit of work to do. Just

2:43:30 > 2:43:38wants to leave the shot.He placed that OK.

2:43:39 > 2:43:44that OK.Where does Kyle want to put his here? He wants to lie shot if

2:43:44 > 2:43:48not else here. That's the most important thing. He would love to be

2:43:48 > 2:43:53able to tuck this away himself, behind that front yellow, perhaps.

2:43:53 > 2:43:58His other one, his other high red is out counting the bottom yellow.I

2:43:58 > 2:44:04think he could freeze that.Freeze it.Yep. The trouble is, if you

2:44:04 > 2:44:16don't freeze it well, these guys are so good at pinging shots out they

2:44:16 > 2:44:20will just try... He's going to try and roll across the other side.

2:44:20 > 2:44:28Wants to roll across. You are right, like to see him sitting shot here.I

2:44:28 > 2:44:34like a freeze, but then I'm a woman! Well, let's hope it's the right

2:44:34 > 2:44:40choice of shot. We said this is so important to pick the right shot and

2:44:40 > 2:44:44then execute it so well. It's going to be a bit of a Tuffey here. We

2:44:44 > 2:44:48have seen the hit and roll not really working for Great Britain at

2:44:48 > 2:44:54the moment.Is this past the guard? Oh, it's not.You've got to be

2:44:54 > 2:45:01kidding.OK. That's a bit of a... That's a shocker from Kyle Smith.

2:45:01 > 2:45:05OK, yeah. He was a million miles away from getting that shot in the

2:45:05 > 2:45:11house there.

2:45:18 > 2:45:21The USA are sensing an opportunity to wrap this match up. What do they

2:45:21 > 2:45:26do? Great Britain have the ham here, so there is still an opportunity for

2:45:26 > 2:45:32Kyle Smith to get one.

2:45:37 > 2:45:43We go round the outside of that. Even if I threw it...Kyle Smith has

2:45:43 > 2:45:48thrown a couple of stones this evening, which he won't want to see

2:45:48 > 2:45:52again, I'm sure. In terms of his Olympic campaign, he has been

2:45:52 > 2:45:56playing well. Making the big shots at the right time in the last few

2:45:56 > 2:46:02matches but not in this one.

2:46:05 > 2:46:07matches but not in this one. 6-4, two down, got to get at least one

2:46:07 > 2:46:16here. They have taken the safer option

2:46:16 > 2:46:22here. Tyler George was keen to forget

2:46:22 > 2:46:27about that red and graun in and try and kill the game early. Sometimes

2:46:27 > 2:46:31being too greedy can work against you, so they are looking to remove

2:46:31 > 2:46:36that red and roll across into the centre.I'm still playing the full

2:46:36 > 2:46:43roll.It is closing down that route for Kyle to draw too. He is looking

2:46:43 > 2:46:56at anywhere of hitting and rolling to the four foot.

2:46:56 > 2:47:00This is the big shot for the us yes US skip.

2:47:00 > 2:47:12-- US skip.He has played that well. He has done very well there, the USA

2:47:12 > 2:47:16sensing massive opportunity here, there's four US stones in the house,

2:47:16 > 2:47:21just one British stone left for Kyle Smith to deliver. He had a poor shot

2:47:21 > 2:47:25with his previous one. Now he faces a very tough shot here, to even get

2:47:25 > 2:47:31the one.Yes, if I'm being picky that stone, he would have wanted to

2:47:31 > 2:47:35keep to it the right-hand side of the centre line there, but what he

2:47:35 > 2:47:39has done is freed up a bit of the four foot. He still played a very

2:47:39 > 2:47:47good shot and Kyle Smith has to make this fully in the four foot.He did.

2:47:47 > 2:47:52He has a clear run-in to it but he can't afford to make any mistakes

2:47:52 > 2:48:02here. Hoefshlding their breath.So Kyle

2:48:02 > 2:48:05Smith -- everybody holding their breath. So Kyle Smith to try and

2:48:05 > 2:48:11keep this match going here, because to give up one or two would make

2:48:11 > 2:48:15life very difficult indeed. So this needs to be very good. It is looking

2:48:15 > 2:48:19light, isn't it.They will have to work this really hard. I don't know

2:48:19 > 2:48:23if we have the weight.Never anywhere near. Nowhere near, in fact

2:48:23 > 2:48:29that could be the match.

2:48:38 > 2:48:42I heard that comment there, I'm not sure that was necessarily needed,

2:48:42 > 2:48:47but, keep your hand your pocket was the message to the USA, but to be

2:48:47 > 2:48:51honest, they are 10-4 down with two to play. Think that's the thing to

2:48:51 > 2:49:00do. You know, USA then, come away with a victory which is really been

2:49:00 > 2:49:06manufactured by Great Britain's bad play there, Jackie, a lot of

2:49:06 > 2:49:10mistakes creeping in at the end, they started OK, really, they were

2:49:10 > 2:49:16going well, had things going for them but sadly there...I am going

2:49:16 > 2:49:21to say they were just tiny little errors and that makes a huge

2:49:21 > 2:49:22difference in this

2:49:22 > 2:49:22errors and that makes a huge difference in this game called

2:49:22 > 2:49:28curling. After the momentum they generated three wins in a row for

2:49:28 > 2:49:32Kyle Smith it means they are now in a play off for the fourth and last

2:49:32 > 2:49:38position. In the semifinals. And they were playing off against the

2:49:38 > 2:49:41Swiss, in that tie-breaker match, and that will be just after midnight

2:49:41 > 2:49:49this evening for the right to face Sweden, who have been in effect the

2:49:49 > 2:49:53best team so far, and it will be Dan against the US A in the other

2:49:53 > 2:49:55semifinal. What happened today from your perspective, how did you read

2:49:55 > 2:50:01that one?Yes, it was disappointing really for the boys, because their

2:50:01 > 2:50:05last game was Norway, who you know, they put out the competition, in

2:50:05 > 2:50:10theory and they played so well. They were clinical in their performance,

2:50:10 > 2:50:14everything worked, and yes, you have days like that where everything does

2:50:14 > 2:50:19work but they just, they were making half shots today, and, they had

2:50:19 > 2:50:25chance, but just didn't capitalise. So, yes they were really really

2:50:25 > 2:50:30disappointed in that, but, it's only one game.Yes. Exactly. And it could

2:50:30 > 2:50:33potentially be a very big day tomorrow with the two matches to

2:50:33 > 2:50:37play, if they get through it. But no panic here, you played two

2:50:37 > 2:50:42tie-breakers on the way to gold and Dave Murdoch came through a

2:50:42 > 2:50:50tie-breaker to get through in Sochi. But the Swiss, they have Peter

2:50:50 > 2:50:56deCruz, he has his vice skip playing the skip stone, how unusual is that?

2:50:56 > 2:51:04It is. Peter deCruz did used to play last stones and skip but Swaziland

2:51:04 > 2:51:09is such a big shot make they tried him throwing last stones so it has

2:51:09 > 2:51:13worked. They have been successful playing it that way, why change it?

2:51:13 > 2:51:18If you could have a word in their shell like, what would you be saying

2:51:18 > 2:51:23to Kyle Smith and his rink? They just have to focus on their own

2:51:23 > 2:51:27shots and not get sucked into the opposition's way of playing or what

2:51:27 > 2:51:31they are doing. Play the score board. You 20 shots each. Make every

2:51:31 > 2:51:36one count. You know they will play well, they know the ice well, so it

2:51:36 > 2:51:41is just a case of focussing on their own game. They can play the game

2:51:41 > 2:51:45so...Well, we know that because it was the first match they played in

2:51:45 > 2:51:53this series and they beat the Swiss 7-6 so we shall see. You will be

2:51:53 > 2:51:59watching that one Rhona. We will stay on the ice. It is the first of

2:51:59 > 2:52:06the women's medal matches in the ice hockey. Finland know what it is like

2:52:06 > 2:52:12to take a medal. As for the Russian women, we have heard all about the

2:52:12 > 2:52:17big red ma mean in the men's game but for all of the success in the

2:52:17 > 2:52:20men's side, Russian women, they are playing under a neutral flag, have

2:52:20 > 2:52:23never managed to take a medal in the women's game. Would that change

2:52:23 > 2:52:34today? Let's find out. The Finnish team work in round on

2:52:34 > 2:52:37the power play. Towards the net. It has gone in. .

2:52:37 > 2:52:43the power play. Towards the net. It has gone in. . Finland have the lead

2:52:43 > 2:52:48in this bronze medal match up. Terrific puck movement here from the

2:52:48 > 2:52:53Finns.On the power play. They get it back to the point, it seems like

2:52:53 > 2:53:00it is is a harmless shot. Watch this eye hand co-ordination, a lazy

2:53:00 > 2:53:09backhand and it is tipped home by Nieminen past a helpless OAR net

2:53:09 > 2:53:13minder. Terrific tip and the Finns have the lead here.Look what it

2:53:13 > 2:53:18means. The second period will give Finland

2:53:18 > 2:53:22the opportunity to try and create a bit more as they get in side. Nice

2:53:22 > 2:53:33move. Puts it in front. What a goal. Karvinen ripping apart the defensive

2:53:33 > 2:53:39line. He can't believe it. Finland lead by two goals to nil. That was

2:53:39 > 2:53:43something special in a medal match. What a back breaker here. Ten

2:53:43 > 2:53:50seconds into the second period. Right off the face off. Look at

2:53:50 > 2:53:58Michelle Karvinen. This is absolutely stunning, and what a

2:53:58 > 2:54:02finish from one knee, tapping it in over the shoulder of the net minder.

2:54:02 > 2:54:102-0 Finland. They are in control now.

2:54:14 > 2:54:18now.A high shot that goes well wide of the target.

2:54:18 > 2:54:27Need some push back here OAR. That is a wonderful finish. One time, a

2:54:27 > 2:54:32top corner. And don't count the Russians out

2:54:32 > 2:54:37yet.

2:54:40 > 2:54:46yet.What a shot off the stick of Oleg. This is one of the greatest

2:54:46 > 2:54:57one timer, up over, a good battle one, cross and up over the glove. So

2:54:57 > 2:55:01through a screen, terrific eye hand co-ordination and no chance for the

2:55:01 > 2:55:05Finner netminder.Two-and-a-half minutes between goals and OAR are

2:55:05 > 2:55:09back in it. A chance to move forward. That is a decent move into

2:55:09 > 2:55:18the zone. Good active stick work. Finland have possession back again.

2:55:18 > 2:55:29How can they use this now? Spreading it well. Hovi. Great finish. It is

2:55:29 > 2:55:38three. Finland keep going in the second period. They were pegged back

2:55:38 > 2:55:43but the two goal cushion is restored. Are the Finns skating

2:55:43 > 2:55:47towards a bronze medal? It seems so right now.

2:55:47 > 2:55:52Love this play. Head up over the blue line, Shrek nices her going

2:55:52 > 2:55:58hard to the net. How about the patience? She is on her forehand,

2:55:58 > 2:56:09she cuts across right through the blue paint, no chance for the them.

2:56:09 > 2:56:14Power play time. Maybe now will be the chance as they do skate in.

2:56:14 > 2:56:24Beaten again. Found the tie. Found the space and

2:56:24 > 2:56:31with 13.57 to go, there is still life in the old dog yet. OAR cut the

2:56:31 > 2:56:35deficit to one.Hold on to your hats, this is going to be an

2:56:35 > 2:56:42incredible finish. It's a one goal game. Finland cleared the puck and

2:56:42 > 2:56:49how about this pass? Right on to the tape. He is on her forehand, sells

2:56:49 > 2:56:57it and with that long reach, is able to tuck it past the left pad.Almost

2:56:57 > 2:57:04the same goal. Terrific finish. Tense moments here. Netminder, can

2:57:04 > 2:57:11they create one last chance, they played so well, have the Olympic

2:57:11 > 2:57:14Athletes from Russia but Finland are snuffing it out on the boards, are

2:57:14 > 2:57:18they going to do it? The Finns are going to win bronze after a third

2:57:18 > 2:57:23time, they will land up on the podium and they have deserved it.

2:57:23 > 2:57:31They have entertained us,They have been a wonderful club has Finland.

2:57:31 > 2:57:35You have the veterans and then you have some of the youngsters stepping

2:57:35 > 2:57:41up new the big game when they are needed it. Heartbreak for the OAR

2:57:41 > 2:57:41but jubilation

2:57:41 > 2:57:43needed it. Heartbreak for the OAR but jubilation for Finland. It's a

2:57:43 > 2:57:51third bronze medal in their history for the Finns. Now, only point 16

2:57:51 > 2:57:57seconds off a bronze medal two British female bobsledders. Nicola

2:57:57 > 2:58:03Minichiello, you have been there, three times Olympian, Mica and Mica

2:58:03 > 2:58:06how much interest has there been in this story. It is a human interest

2:58:06 > 2:58:10story. It is massive. I think for those girls, in September, to be

2:58:10 > 2:58:13told they were not going to be funded but they were written off.

2:58:13 > 2:58:18They were not going to be able to qualify, get out on the circuit, to

2:58:18 > 2:58:23at this point be having a great season, the best season for many

2:58:23 > 2:58:28British sled and going out there to compete in the Olympics and make

2:58:28 > 2:58:33history, amazing. We will see runs three and four. It wasn't just that

2:58:33 > 2:58:38the British pay that we are interesting in, there was so many of

2:58:38 > 2:58:40the legends of the sport, particularly American's Meyers

2:58:40 > 2:58:45Taylor. How often do you think she has dreamed of turn two from Sochi,

2:58:45 > 2:58:50that is what foiled her the last time round for gold.It is. She was

2:58:50 > 2:58:54in the gold medal position, about to become Olympic champion which is the

2:58:54 > 2:58:58only title she didn't have and she made a huge mistake, she lost that

2:58:58 > 2:59:04gold medal. She opened the doors and ceilidh came through. This was about

2:59:04 > 2:59:08coming back and proving she can do it.OK, well there was a real fight

2:59:08 > 2:59:14for the bronze medals and indeed the silver and gold and with two runs

2:59:14 > 2:59:19remaining, the British duo were trying to bettherapy lady's best in

2:59:19 > 2:59:25the Olympic games of ninth. Also the fight for the medals as well. Let's

2:59:25 > 2:59:30enjoy runs three and four in the company of John Jackson and John

2:59:30 > 2:59:30enjoy runs three and four in the company of John Jackson and John

2:59:30 > 2:59:41Hunt. Track side here and this is a big 15 minutes coming up. Relative

2:59:41 > 2:59:47to the men's event where in run three it was the quickest run of the

2:59:47 > 2:59:51competition, so I think as Jamanka tries to psyche herself up in the

2:59:51 > 2:59:59lead, we need to see some sparkling hot times.

2:59:59 > 3:00:04Jamanka then together with Buckwitz, wondering whether Drazek is the

3:00:04 > 3:00:11quirk push. We will see now. Jamanka's 5.37, that is their

3:00:11 > 3:00:17slowest start so far, they start this vital third round, just a 7

3:00:17 > 3:00:20hundredth gap between themselves and Meyers Taylor. For these two top

3:00:20 > 3:00:24five or six sleds, they need to put the run down that is going to keep

3:00:24 > 3:00:28them in the medal hunt. If they don't they can't win the medals on

3:00:28 > 3:00:34this run but they can throw them away. This is looking like a clean

3:00:34 > 3:00:39run so far, nice down the straight. Just about comes in there, a bit

3:00:39 > 3:00:44late but she will hold the speed. This will put pressure on Alana to

3:00:44 > 3:00:52put a big run in. She will if gets corner too right. It would be a

3:00:52 > 3:00:59state if she can achieve it.

3:01:02 > 3:01:07One more run away from achieving her game. A really good start. Can

3:01:07 > 3:01:13anybody go quicker than that. That sets the standard for Meyers Taylor

3:01:13 > 3:01:26to come. They watch on from the IOC. Meyers Taylor had held the track

3:01:26 > 3:01:32record just before. Jamanka has taken it. Elana set out her

3:01:32 > 3:01:36intentions perfectly #k4r5er78. She's never won Olympic gold. This

3:01:36 > 3:01:42to keep her in the hunt together with Jamanka. Maybe, you never know,

3:01:42 > 3:01:54one or two others. Here she goes. Usually very quick. 5.21, 5.22 with

3:01:54 > 3:01:59Lauren Gibbs in the brake. She's done it get. Has she got it right?

3:01:59 > 3:02:03She got away with it. Green at the moment. That's relative to the

3:02:03 > 3:02:09start. Made another mistake. Similar to yesterday. Are those little too

3:02:09 > 3:02:13mistakes she made what loses her time at this point? It's starting to

3:02:13 > 3:02:19close down a little bit. Just hundredth by hundredth. Can she get

3:02:19 > 3:02:25straight? A better line. Jamanka I think has done enough to stay in

3:02:25 > 3:02:28front of the American sled at this time. It will be down the hundredth

3:02:28 > 3:02:35again.So close. This could be as close as the men's race. Meyers

3:02:35 > 3:02:40Taylor, two early mistakes. Ragged off the final curve. Drops second.

3:02:40 > 3:02:49Inlet the mix for gold. 4 UNth's off Jamanka. She's closed the gap from

3:02:49 > 3:02:58run 2 to run 3. German roars next for Schneider. Of the race that is

3:02:58 > 3:03:05took place this winter.

3:03:05 > 3:03:11took place this winter. Scheider won three of them. She has had a great

3:03:11 > 3:03:16winter. Tenth in Sochi. She will clearly improve on that, but by how

3:03:16 > 3:03:27much. Scheider on her way now with Zrazek.I was expecting them to be

3:03:27 > 3:03:30quicker off the mark. These two are carrying a couple of injuries that

3:03:30 > 3:03:36they are having to manage with. She really does now need to put a good

3:03:36 > 3:03:41run in because the three or four sled behind her are tightly packed

3:03:41 > 3:03:45in. That little mistake there won't help her out. An inexperienced pilot

3:03:45 > 3:03:51compared to everyone else. This run may cost her that bronze medal spot

3:03:51 > 3:03:58at the moment. Can she stay in the mix with Humphries and the sled

3:03:58 > 3:04:17behind her.She's not a particularly smart run here. Costly

3:04:17 > 3:04:25smart run here. Costly third run for Schneider, from Germany. Next for

3:04:25 > 3:04:30America, Greubel Poser she saw her husband miss out having led. Bronze

3:04:30 > 3:04:40medallist in Sochi. She would love to do it for her sister Elizabeth

3:04:40 > 3:04:45who was Korean and adopted. Her family here to see if she can

3:04:45 > 3:04:55improve on what she did in Sochi. She's now 34. Poser not as quick as

3:04:55 > 3:04:59Meyers Taylor and Gibbs but quicker than the Germans we have seen so

3:04:59 > 3:05:08far. Low 5.30s or under that. She has 5.31.A little mistake. I don't

3:05:08 > 3:05:11know if they were out slightly. Decent start. In there with what

3:05:11 > 3:05:16they were doing. Faster start so far. This could be the run that puts

3:05:16 > 3:05:21in that pulls her back towards the front. She is probably slightly

3:05:21 > 3:05:28better pilot technically than what Elana Meyers is. Whether she has the

3:05:28 > 3:05:33speed and the right equipment. Gets through clean. One of the best

3:05:33 > 3:05:39lines. Can she pull up to the leaders? She needs to keep in front

3:05:39 > 3:05:49of Humphries.Jamanka is the leader. Bend 15. Home now for Greubel Poser

3:05:49 > 3:05:56who will go third. That on the teams that have gone so far is a bigger

3:05:56 > 3:06:01gap that developed between silver and bronze. Bronze is where Greubel

3:06:01 > 3:06:08Poser sits at the moment.

3:06:08 > 3:06:13Poser sits at the moment. Huge Canadian support. She could slip

3:06:13 > 3:06:20into bronze if not better. No-one more determined than Kaillie as she

3:06:20 > 3:06:24starts her run for Canada. Sub 5.30 possibly on the cards. Not quite.

3:06:24 > 3:06:32Not far off. They need to go sub 30 on there. Will she make the mistake.

3:06:32 > 3:06:37Gets through there clean. This run will keep her in the medals. Any

3:06:37 > 3:06:41mistakes at all I think her medal chances are gone you never know what

3:06:41 > 3:06:46can happen on the fourth run. The most insuranced and most consistent

3:06:46 > 3:06:49pilot in the field. Whether she can use that experience and find

3:06:49 > 3:06:52everything she knows and learnt to make it down the track as quick as

3:06:52 > 3:06:58possible. She's doing well so far. This is what you would expect from a

3:06:58 > 3:07:03double-Olympic champion in the front of this sled. The time ebbing away.

3:07:03 > 3:07:08It might go to three tenths. Got to keep it close to two tenth as

3:07:08 > 3:07:21possible. Nearly four tenths behind Jamanka. She takes third ahead of

3:07:21 > 3:07:25Greubel Poser and Schneider. There is an opportunity here for McNeil

3:07:25 > 3:07:37and Moore to make some progress.

3:07:37 > 3:07:44The British pair, the thanks you the watching public to get them here.

3:07:44 > 3:07:49Funding slashed last year. They went crowdfunding and raised thousands,

3:07:49 > 3:07:53which has brought them here. We are expecting a moderate start they have

3:07:53 > 3:07:57been one of the best teams on the bottom end of the track in the

3:07:57 > 3:08:01entire competition. Don't expect fireworks early from them. Let's

3:08:01 > 3:08:07hope for a clean run to keep them in this race. 5.54 is about what you

3:08:07 > 3:08:11would expect. This is where Mica will do her work. If she gets

3:08:11 > 3:08:19through clean. Which she has. Physical she had the same start as

3:08:19 > 3:08:21Meyers Taylor or the Germans she would be up there leading the pack

3:08:21 > 3:08:24at the moment. This is what the British team are lacking the out and

3:08:24 > 3:08:28out tort. One of the best drivers all the way down this track,

3:08:28 > 3:08:32especially here. She needs to get this right.Oh, no.A little

3:08:32 > 3:08:35mistake. She didn't make that over the last couple of days. She needs

3:08:35 > 3:08:39to just control this now and get back on. She will lose a little bit

3:08:39 > 3:08:45of pace. This could drop her back two or three spots. The sled behind

3:08:45 > 3:08:49her are hundreds.Ragged, I'm afraid, for the great British team.

3:08:49 > 3:08:54They will finish over a second behind. Remember they were less than

3:08:54 > 3:09:02half a second behind and that is not good news for Great Britain. Mica

3:09:02 > 3:09:07and Mica will almost certainly lose their sixth place. They may lose it

3:09:07 > 3:09:10by toward owe three places as well. She made a little mistake there.

3:09:10 > 3:09:14That mistake is so costly. We could see that she is turning hard. She

3:09:14 > 3:09:17goes above the line. Has to work hard again. Three lots of pressure

3:09:17 > 3:09:22in that corner. You can see how high she is there. She is lucky that

3:09:22 > 3:09:29potentially she didn't crash at the end of that corner.

3:09:31 > 3:09:37end of that corner.Jamanka, Meyers Taylor lead the field. Humphries the

3:09:37 > 3:09:40gold medal looks a long way away. Going for a third. It looks

3:09:40 > 3:09:51impossible. Pole position for bronze ahead of Greubel Poser and

3:09:51 > 3:09:58Schneider. Great Britain in eighth place. Comfortable margin back to

3:09:58 > 3:10:03the tenth team, Austria. The Great Britain team start off in eighth

3:10:03 > 3:10:10place. Slight disappointment after their third run. At the time it was

3:10:10 > 3:10:14disappointing, wasn't it? It was the 11th quickest run. We know they are

3:10:14 > 3:10:19better than that of run number three. Good luck to them here.

3:10:19 > 3:10:26McNeil and Moore. If they could get near 5. 50 as a start that would

3:10:26 > 3:10:29give them a really good opportunity. Then it's all about avoiding

3:10:29 > 3:10:36mistakes. 5.54, not great, not terrible. This is where she needs to

3:10:36 > 3:10:39be clean, through here. That hit might cost her. That wasn't as bad

3:10:39 > 3:10:47as other reds through there. -- sleds. She has been perfect on this

3:10:47 > 3:10:52track other than the mistake on the last run. She now needs to dial into

3:10:52 > 3:10:55the track, especially through this point. Get it right and you could

3:10:55 > 3:11:00keep your top eight. That's good. Has she got enough speed left in the

3:11:00 > 3:11:05track? Has she got enough left? She has been good at this point in the

3:11:05 > 3:11:08track all the way down. She's starting to pull away thchl is the

3:11:08 > 3:11:12run that she needs to get the best result for Britain ever at an

3:11:12 > 3:11:18Olympic Games.Nobody before in the women's bobsleigh has been eighth in

3:11:18 > 3:11:24the Olympic Games. They have claimed that position. Nicola Minichello in

3:11:24 > 3:11:282006 was a fabulous ninth. The British pairing go one better at

3:11:28 > 3:11:34least. What a Games. The pair who are only here because of the

3:11:34 > 3:11:38generosity of the British public. Their funding completely slashed

3:11:38 > 3:11:45last year. Now, they have secured a little slice of sporting history for

3:11:45 > 3:11:56Great Britain. Next for Germany in fifth place, Schneider and Drazek.

3:11:56 > 3:12:01They started Run 3 in third place. They had a pretty poor third run.

3:12:01 > 3:12:05Both apparently carrying a little injury. One an ankle and one having

3:12:05 > 3:12:13problems with their back. Can they hold it together and possibly put

3:12:13 > 3:12:19some pressure on Greubel Poser from the United States. The brake one had

3:12:19 > 3:12:24more bandaging on than the first run. I didn't notice that. She needs

3:12:24 > 3:12:29a perfect drive here. She runs long on there. That's not too bad. Little

3:12:29 > 3:12:33bit low in eight at the beginning. Can she get this right? Not as

3:12:33 > 3:12:38perfect as maybe some of the top pilots coming next will have. She's

3:12:38 > 3:12:43got good speed down the bottom. The German sleds like the bottom part of

3:12:43 > 3:12:48this track. She is put putting the pressure on.Good clean through the

3:12:48 > 3:12:5415th curve there and to the finish. Schneider confirmed as fifth at

3:12:54 > 3:13:02worst.

3:13:09 > 3:13:15Greubel Poser and Evans, bronze medallist at Sochi. She has to stay

3:13:15 > 3:13:22ahead here of Schneider. She headed Run 3 ahead of Schneider by a tenth

3:13:22 > 3:13:27of a second. If she can nose ahead of the German she will be fourth at

3:13:27 > 3:13:31worse, with three to come. One of the many battles within a battle

3:13:31 > 3:13:42here. The race for the bronze medal. Greubel Poser under way. Capable of

3:13:42 > 3:13:48a 5.30 start. 5.32. That is OK. That is what she needs. This pair slid

3:13:48 > 3:13:50together in Sochi. Won a bronze medal together.

3:13:50 > 3:13:54They know how to fight for the medals at this point. A tap as she

3:13:54 > 3:13:59comes on to corner five. These sleds like speed at the bottom. If they

3:13:59 > 3:14:05gets it right. A big lead over the erm German at the minute. She has to

3:14:05 > 3:14:08be perfect through this part of the track. The key point here, corner

3:14:08 > 3:14:12nine. Like the Germans a little tap. The German was quick down here. Has

3:14:12 > 3:14:19she enough? Will the German apply pressure to her and Humphries this

3:14:19 > 3:14:25will be down a hundredth of a second. Guaranteed fourth, will it

3:14:25 > 3:14:34be Greubel Poser or Schneider holding on. Schneider holding on.

3:14:34 > 3:14:41Greubel Poser dropping back. Likely to finished fifth. Just like her

3:14:41 > 3:14:44husband, in the men's event, it looks like it will be

3:14:44 > 3:14:51disappointment.Overall, you look at the running you are like that - how

3:14:51 > 3:14:56has she just lost that speed? Maybe just overdriving. This is the same

3:14:56 > 3:14:59mistake as the Germans. It might be down to the lines here are almost

3:14:59 > 3:15:05identical. You don't really see much in that at all. That is me talking

3:15:05 > 3:15:13hundredths of a second. That is the difference at the bottom.

3:15:17 > 3:15:20Kaillie Humphries in the bronze medal position at the moment. After

3:15:20 > 3:15:30run three she had a lead of 1500th over Schneider who is third. Kaillie

3:15:30 > 3:15:36Humphries, gold in Vancouver. Gold in Sochi. There is a medal for her

3:15:36 > 3:15:42here if she accept clean and fast. Same time as the American, all these

3:15:42 > 3:15:47last couple of sleds have started in the '30s. It is just about now who

3:15:47 > 3:15:52has the bottle to hold it. Now the Germans are in the driving seat at

3:15:52 > 3:15:55the minute, but Kaillie Humphries has the experience. She is the most

3:15:55 > 3:15:59experienced pilot in the field. He is a double Olympic champion, she

3:15:59 > 3:16:04knows how to cope with pressure but her sled has not been as fast as the

3:16:04 > 3:16:06others at the bottom part of the track. She is coming into that

3:16:06 > 3:16:12corner late. She will have to do more. Her sled has not had speed

3:16:12 > 3:16:19down this part of the track. Is she going to hold on?Bend 15, important

3:16:19 > 3:16:23for her, is she clean out of it? Of course she S can she get a medal

3:16:23 > 3:16:29here? Guaranteed now, bronze at least. Kaillie Humphries, one of the

3:16:29 > 3:16:36greats will be on the podium again and so too George, who was a

3:16:36 > 3:16:41fantastic sprinter in her time, has said she is not completely given up

3:16:41 > 3:16:46on her athletics career, the two together have themselves a medal.

3:16:46 > 3:16:51But bronze atwork it certainly is for one of the greats of women's

3:16:51 > 3:16:57bobsleigh. That run was almost perfect. There

3:16:57 > 3:17:00was no real big mistake, you would expect that from a pilot of her

3:17:00 > 3:17:08calibre. After two days of... The four heats,

3:17:08 > 3:17:10as the Germans who lead....

3:17:10 > 3:17:13After two days of... The four heats, as the Germans who lead.... Can

3:17:13 > 3:17:20Rowan Cheshire do the trick?

3:17:20 > 3:17:36Remember Meyers Taylor has won everything. Olympic bronze.

3:17:52 > 3:17:56This the run now, that she is going to put in, she needs to be perfect,

3:17:56 > 3:18:01she just needs to drive this track like we know she can. She's been

3:18:01 > 3:18:05good at the top. She needs to make sure as she comes down this point at

3:18:05 > 3:18:08seven, a plonk off there, that won't cost her any speed. This is crucial

3:18:08 > 3:18:13now, to get this right. Absolutely perfect, comes in there a

3:18:13 > 3:18:19bit late. But she's got enough speed, definitely to get the silver,

3:18:19 > 3:18:26is this enough now, for gold?Well, round bend 15, it has a huge

3:18:26 > 3:18:33advantage over Kaillie Humphries. It is a silver medal guaranteed again

3:18:33 > 3:18:38for Meyers Taylor. And will it be enough? We will know the answer to

3:18:38 > 3:18:44that, in three minutes. Huge success, an outpouring of emotion

3:18:44 > 3:18:51for her who has done so much for the States for women's sport it has to

3:18:51 > 3:18:57be said and Lauren Gibbs her brake, also with a medal. Emotional

3:18:57 > 3:19:03outpouring having just won a silver medal again, her third medal. She

3:19:03 > 3:19:08buzz brake for

3:19:08 > 3:19:13buzz brake for Aaron Pack with a bronze medal. Here it is silver at

3:19:13 > 3:19:21the very least again.

3:19:21 > 3:19:25the very least again. The German pilot is 27-year-old Jamanka who has

3:19:25 > 3:19:30had a World Cup season of her dreams. Is she about to realise the

3:19:30 > 3:19:36biggest dream of them all with an Olympic gold medal? You will get a

3:19:36 > 3:19:38direct comparison with Meyers Taylor, expect a slower start here,

3:19:38 > 3:19:43it is going to be America or Germany, we are going to know in

3:19:43 > 3:19:47less than 50 seconds, deficit at the start was obvious. Can she claw it

3:19:47 > 3:19:54back?At the next it should drop away but the German pilot has been,

3:19:54 > 3:19:58she has been the most consistent pilot all the way down, not made any

3:19:58 > 3:20:03mistake, this sled has been FA at the bottom. It is, as you can see

3:20:03 > 3:20:07pulled back 4 hundred thd, this is going to be down to the oneth of a

3:20:07 > 3:20:12second. If she gets this right she has a chance. Exactly the same run,

3:20:12 > 3:20:17now there is enough time to pull that 8 hundredth back but it will be

3:20:17 > 3:20:22close.Down to bend 14, down 3 hundredth. Jamanka closing on Meyers

3:20:22 > 3:20:26Taylor throughout. Clean through 15. The young German has a great chance

3:20:26 > 3:20:32of gold here, will it be tight? It is Germany who win. Jamanka strikes

3:20:32 > 3:20:42gold. Applause from Meyers Taylor, who is the silver medallist once

3:20:42 > 3:20:47again, and after Germany picked up in the 06 games Germany win gold

3:20:47 > 3:20:53again and I don't think Jamanka can quite believe it. The brake Lisa

3:20:53 > 3:20:58Buckwitz appeared to be in tears. Meyers Taylor taking defeat so, so

3:20:58 > 3:21:08well. The class athlete that she has, amazing scenes for Germany.

3:21:11 > 3:21:16Jamanka there, an ex-hammer thrower, has just thrown the world of women's

3:21:16 > 3:21:22bobsleigh on its head. What a victory for her and Buckwitz. It's

3:21:22 > 3:21:26confirmed that they won the gold medal by seven hundredth of a

3:21:26 > 3:21:32second. Great scenes is afterwards, great pap report between the team,

3:21:32 > 3:21:35what a race. It has thrown up something else we did not expect at

3:21:35 > 3:21:43the start. That is one of the outsiders winning the medals.

3:21:43 > 3:21:49Jamanka wins gold. Meyers Taylor Silver Medal, her second and Kaillie

3:21:49 > 3:21:58Humphries, the great from Canada has got the bronze. Schneider and Poser

3:21:58 > 3:22:03next and confirmation of a wonderful record position for the Great

3:22:03 > 3:22:07Britain team in 8th place. Well done Mica and Mica. Wonderful stuff for

3:22:07 > 3:22:12Great Britain. We are so happy, we came in wanting to enjoy the

3:22:12 > 3:22:17experience, it is our first games and we have come away with 8th. It

3:22:17 > 3:22:21more than we could have hoped for. We are happy. Were you happy with

3:22:21 > 3:22:25today's performances?Yes, there is things I am going to be picky with

3:22:25 > 3:22:30but we said before we came here, we wanted to enjoy it. We would love a

3:22:30 > 3:22:36single figure result. We have done that, yesterday, we were in the mix,

3:22:36 > 3:22:41but I'm not comfortable on this track and I had a couple of mistakes

3:22:41 > 3:22:46in my driving but we have to be happy with that, but, it feels

3:22:46 > 3:22:52awesome.I think as she done amazing. You have gone toe to toe

3:22:52 > 3:22:57with some of the best programmes and you funded yourself.Yes, that

3:22:57 > 3:23:01feelings amazing, we didn't know we would be here five months ago, to

3:23:01 > 3:23:06get here is an achievement. We have loved every minute of it and we want

3:23:06 > 3:23:13to say thank you to everyone who supported us, it has been

3:23:13 > 3:23:17incredible, but yes,It is a crazy few months, this has been the cherry

3:23:17 > 3:23:22on top. We have enjoyed it so much. Has anyone in British bobsleigh said

3:23:22 > 3:23:27we are sorry, we got this wrong, we we are glad you are here. They can't

3:23:27 > 3:23:32say anything like that, they made the decision, they had to stick by

3:23:32 > 3:23:38it. We were told we weren't medal potential. We will be back in four

3:23:38 > 3:23:47years type you will see it in among it.Is it going to be an interesting

3:23:47 > 3:23:51conversation between Beijing 2022?I hope we don't have to ask the

3:23:51 > 3:23:56people, it is great as it has been we want them to be able to watch us

3:23:56 > 3:23:59and enjoyment and not have to help us us

3:23:59 > 3:24:02and enjoyment and not have to help us us out again. For now powered by

3:24:02 > 3:24:06the people they have achieved the best result ever at the Olympic

3:24:06 > 3:24:10game, pipping you in ninth place, but I wonder how you feel about

3:24:10 > 3:24:13having been sufred in that situation? I couldn't be more

3:24:13 > 3:24:20pleased for the girls. We have seen right from the start, right from

3:24:20 > 3:24:25when Mica wassome, 15, she had the talent, the potential. She is so

3:24:25 > 3:24:29focussed. In September last year, when they got the news, it was

3:24:29 > 3:24:33devastating. You can tell they are both fighters and they have come

3:24:33 > 3:24:40back out and got an amazing result. I am so pleased for them. They drove

3:24:40 > 3:24:48difficult part of the track so well. It was such an I provement in this

3:24:48 > 3:24:54fourth run.Yes, considering the amount of runs Mica has had on track

3:24:54 > 3:24:59compared to the rest of the people competing, it was not half. They

3:24:59 > 3:25:05hadn't gone to the event in Ma or October due funding. She came in

3:25:05 > 3:25:12having had eight runs before the competition. Every run she was

3:25:12 > 3:25:16returning.What kind of conversation to you think will be happening at

3:25:16 > 3:25:20the top levels of the sport in Great Britain after this was?Think there

3:25:20 > 3:25:25has to be huge review. They clearly have the talent, they have the

3:25:25 > 3:25:29potential, I think the questions have to be, how is there able to be

3:25:29 > 3:25:33such a massive overspend? Who was not controlling the budget, for it

3:25:33 > 3:25:38to get to that point to say we haven't got the funding to be able

3:25:38 > 3:25:47to send you on the ice.It does beg the question, what could they

3:25:47 > 3:25:51achieve with significant bagging? You look at the Germans who as you

3:25:51 > 3:25:54have told us have overhauled their programme to achieve success, they

3:25:54 > 3:26:01got it today. Jamanka came in having only won her first World Cup race in

3:26:01 > 3:26:05September. September. How big a surprise is thisThe women's field

3:26:05 > 3:26:10is wide-open. Every single team had some kind of issues and they gent,

3:26:10 > 3:26:16they were underdog, they were not down to be the medals. Snider was

3:26:16 > 3:26:25the top girl. Again, they have gone out an enjoyed themselves, a new

3:26:25 > 3:26:29track at an Olympic Games opens up the form book because everybody, if

3:26:29 > 3:26:34they have been able to attend even has had about the same number of

3:26:34 > 3:26:39runs.I know a lot of people wouldn't get the chance to do this,

3:26:39 > 3:26:46put it in context, if we were to let a bob go with two people in it how

3:26:46 > 3:26:50quickly would it turn over without any piloting?O this track probably

3:26:50 > 3:26:56curve two. Most curve one. It is difficult. The techie is such, you

3:26:56 > 3:27:00can't see what is going on, but those ropes the pilots are make,

3:27:00 > 3:27:07they are using it constantly to make the adjustments. You can hit sent

3:27:07 > 3:27:16metres of perfect line.It has been a extraordinary day, a wonderful

3:27:16 > 3:27:20achievement for the British women. It is time for cross-country skiing,

3:27:20 > 3:27:25and that the point, everybody at the Huntley Nordic ski centre in

3:27:25 > 3:27:30Scotland their ears prick up. Andrew Young and Andrew Musgrave put in the

3:27:30 > 3:27:35hours there in the north of Scotland and the proof was there today, in

3:27:35 > 3:27:39the team sprint this is the third time the two have taken part

3:27:39 > 3:27:47together. In Sochi, Andrew Young's heart condition, racing heartbeat

3:27:47 > 3:27:51flared up dramatically, causing them to withdraw from the contest in the

3:27:51 > 3:27:56middle of the semifinal. However, today, it was a sixth place, not

3:27:56 > 3:28:01good enough to get through to the team sprint finals but great they

3:28:01 > 3:28:07had that unfinished business completed for the two of them and

3:28:07 > 3:28:12and drew Musgrave is going to be going in the marathon 50k, wouldn't

3:28:12 > 3:28:16we love that on skinny skis, towards the end of the programme. However,

3:28:16 > 3:28:21in terms of the medals in both men's and women's team sprints this was a

3:28:21 > 3:28:27fantastic couple of races, with potentially more history in the

3:28:27 > 3:28:29making for Norway's Iron Lady Marit Bjoergen. A quick refresher first of

3:28:29 > 3:28:37all. Cross-country skiing is one of the

3:28:37 > 3:28:41ultimate physical challenge, one of its disciplines races over the

3:28:41 > 3:28:45longest distance of any winter Olympic sport. 50 kilometres in one

3:28:45 > 3:28:50go. There are two ways to ski. Classic, which involves a fast

3:28:50 > 3:28:54walking motion along parallel tracks, and freestyle, which

3:28:54 > 3:28:58resembles the motion of ice skating, there are six events, each for men

3:28:58 > 3:29:01and women with the goal simply to complete the various distances as

3:29:01 > 3:29:04quickly as possible.

3:29:09 > 3:29:12There a moment of history beckoning for The Iron lady wearing number one

3:29:12 > 3:29:12on the

3:29:12 > 3:29:17for The Iron lady wearing number one on the left. This arguably one of

3:29:17 > 3:29:24the hardest earned gold medals of any sport here in Pyeongchang, there

3:29:24 > 3:29:28is Marit Bjoergen. 16-and-a-half minutes away from something very

3:29:28 > 3:29:34special. They are under way in this women's team sprint final. Just a

3:29:34 > 3:29:41quick explanation as to how this works, only two a athletes per

3:29:41 > 3:29:45nation, six circuits skied in all, so three each and the only rest each

3:29:45 > 3:29:51gets is the length of time it takes their team-mate to ski each of their

3:29:51 > 3:29:56circuits. Marit Bjoergen in second place here, for Norway. A at the

3:29:56 > 3:30:02moment she

3:30:05 > 3:30:12moment she is tied in medals. There is The Iron lady, a medal of any

3:30:12 > 3:30:17colour would bring her 14 Winter Olympics in total and no-one has

3:30:17 > 3:30:24done better, she would be the greatest of all time.It is not just

3:30:24 > 3:30:29about Marit Bjoergen it is about the other Norwegian in this team of two

3:30:29 > 3:30:37who you see waiting to hand over from Marit Bjoergen, you also have

3:30:37 > 3:30:43the US, Swedes, everyone in this mix, they will be looking more as

3:30:43 > 3:30:49Falla, the weak link in a Norwegian wan team but it could just be that

3:30:49 > 3:30:57Nilsson who you are about to see take over from Sweden, Nilsson was

3:30:57 > 3:31:02target fella and try and bring this gold home for Sweden instead of

3:31:02 > 3:31:12Norway and take the edge of Marit Bjoergen's party if they can.

3:31:17 > 3:31:20They are the reigning world champions Norway. This is a

3:31:20 > 3:31:23competitive race. They've already skied a semi-final just to get to

3:31:23 > 3:31:31this big showdown.

3:31:31 > 3:31:35this big showdown. Cameras focused in on 13. She has a couple of bronze

3:31:35 > 3:31:38medals for Finland. She has work to do. This Russian duo, for all the

3:31:38 > 3:31:42reasons that have been well publicised, the Olympic athletes of

3:31:42 > 3:31:48Russia have brought a very young, but very, very talented team. This

3:31:48 > 3:31:57race looks to be on paper a four-way battle. Norway out on course.

3:31:57 > 3:32:03Sweden. The USA, who will talk more about. Impressive in their

3:32:03 > 3:32:08semi-final. And those young Olympic Athletes from Russia. Here now you

3:32:08 > 3:32:12can see you have Maiken Caspersen Falla on that right hand side. Stina

3:32:12 > 3:32:18Nilsson, keeping pace for Sweden. So far this final is absolutely

3:32:18 > 3:32:25punched.Marit Bjoergen contemplating their second circuit.

3:32:25 > 3:32:32Three each in total. Both team-mates have done a circuit each. Bjoergen

3:32:32 > 3:32:38will be going up against Kalla. Wearing bib 12 of Sweden. Right of

3:32:38 > 3:32:45picture. The Americans won the team sprint world title five years ago.

3:32:45 > 3:32:49American men have won cross-country medals, not men, a silver back in

3:32:49 > 3:32:5576. No American woman has ever won a Winter Olympic cross-country skiing

3:32:55 > 3:32:59medal. Kikkan Randall and Jessica Diggins, third place with Kikkan

3:32:59 > 3:33:03Randall at the moment. It would be a huge, huge day for American

3:33:03 > 3:33:08cross-country skiing. So their little date with history can't be

3:33:08 > 3:33:14under estimated here either. Absolutely, the USA it's their last

3:33:14 > 3:33:19chance. Kikkan Randall at her fifth Olympic Games. 35 years old. She

3:33:19 > 3:33:24thinks this is it. In terms of her ability to finally, for the first

3:33:24 > 3:33:30time, put the US on an Olympic podium in this sport. This is going

3:33:30 > 3:33:36to be a fascinating circuit. Kikkan Randall will come under pressure

3:33:36 > 3:33:40from Marit Bjoergen. The best of the rest are left trailing in the wake.

3:33:40 > 3:33:43The Olympic athletes of Russia completely out of this now.Yeah,

3:33:43 > 3:33:47absolutely. We were worried that the US, having gone so hard in the

3:33:47 > 3:33:51semi-final, might be the ones to blow up in this final. Instead, it

3:33:51 > 3:33:56is those young athletes from Russia who have just not been able to keep

3:33:56 > 3:34:00any kind of pace as, frankly, neither have anyone else. These

3:34:00 > 3:34:05three are now well out in front. It would take quite some effort, you

3:34:05 > 3:34:10can see the Swiss still just about in touch. But it looks like it might

3:34:10 > 3:34:14just turn into a sprint finish between these three. The Norwegians

3:34:14 > 3:34:21will still think they have an ace or two up their sleeves to move ahead.

3:34:21 > 3:34:26Equally, the Swedish will look at Kalla waiting for Nilsson to say,

3:34:26 > 3:34:30when will you make a move. It's strategic as to when you push ahead.

3:34:30 > 3:34:37Norway are trying to take this out Nor way, Swede now.N and the United

3:34:37 > 3:34:44States with one circuit left. Burst their way towards the finish. The

3:34:44 > 3:34:48Swedish newspapers interview Kalla before this race and said if Stina

3:34:48 > 3:34:51Nilsson and Maiken Caspersen Falla of Norway are level going into the

3:34:51 > 3:34:58final leg, we will not be that worried. She essentially said she

3:34:58 > 3:35:03thinks Stina Nilsson could take it for Sweden. Brave to say. It's been

3:35:03 > 3:35:06over the Scandinavian immediate yachl she has to deliver on that.

3:35:06 > 3:35:14There is nothing to choose between Norway, Sweden and the USA, out in

3:35:14 > 3:35:21front. Going for that podium at last.Falla Forlan way. Jessica

3:35:21 > 3:35:25Diggins. The weight of history and disappointment is on the American

3:35:25 > 3:35:29shoulders. What about Stina Nilsson. She beat Maiken Caspersen Falla in

3:35:29 > 3:35:39the sprint final. They call her Silver Stina always the bridesmaid

3:35:39 > 3:35:44never the bride. They head down into the stadium the medals are assured.

3:35:44 > 3:35:50In which order? There is a tussle there between Falla and Nilsson.

3:35:50 > 3:35:54Jessica Diggins didn't get involved there. The history books will be

3:35:54 > 3:36:01written. They will show that tonight Marit Bjoergen became the greatest

3:36:01 > 3:36:05of all-time, but with what colour medal? Stina Nilsson trying to pull

3:36:05 > 3:36:09away. Suddenly there is a gap. The Norwegians are third. The Americans

3:36:09 > 3:36:15are going to get their first ever medal in women's cross-country

3:36:15 > 3:36:19skiing history in the Winter Olympics. It looks as though Maiken

3:36:19 > 3:36:22Caspersen Falla is beaten. It will be history for Bjoergen. That will

3:36:22 > 3:36:28be a with a bronze. What a race. Stina Nilsson, Jessica Diggins for a

3:36:28 > 3:36:32piece of history. The Americans have done it. That's incredible. For the

3:36:32 > 3:36:36first time they are on the podium and they are on the podium with a

3:36:36 > 3:36:41gold. Sweden take silver. Marit Bjoergen does become the greatest of

3:36:41 > 3:36:45all-time, but it was bronze tonight for the golden girl. Let's focus on

3:36:45 > 3:36:50the Americans. So many times they've come up short. So many times they

3:36:50 > 3:36:55have been left having to answer awkward questions. But not tonight.

3:36:55 > 3:36:59Is Bjoergen will write the headlines, but the lore glory

3:36:59 > 3:37:03belongs to the Americans who have denied the two powerhouses of

3:37:03 > 3:37:10cross-country skiing with an incredible finish. What a race. An

3:37:10 > 3:37:13absolutely incredible moment of history. Not just for Marit

3:37:13 > 3:37:19Bjoergen. An amazing finish from two American women who have produced the

3:37:19 > 3:37:29race of their lives against some of the all-time greats. This great race

3:37:29 > 3:37:38is about to start. We are in for another treat. A quick headline on

3:37:38 > 3:37:43Andrew Musgrave and #57bd rue Young, missing out on the fastest loser

3:37:43 > 3:37:52spots in this final. They didn't finish the men's team sprint in

3:37:52 > 3:37:59Sochi or Vancouver. Andrew suffers from tachycardia. The pressure on

3:37:59 > 3:38:03the heart when means he has had quite a lot of races in which he

3:38:03 > 3:38:08hasn't managed to finish. The two Britons doing the nation proud o. A

3:38:08 > 3:38:13great effort. Not to be a place in the final. Andrew Musgrave's

3:38:13 > 3:38:17thoughts will turn to the 50K on Saturday. An event in which he was

3:38:17 > 3:38:22only a second-and-a-half of the World Championship podium in Finland

3:38:22 > 3:38:30last year. No British duo in here, but we have a world-class pair of

3:38:30 > 3:38:36very, very young talented skiers from the Olympic athletes of Russia.

3:38:36 > 3:38:41It's Denis Spitsov on the lead leg. He got a bronze in the 15K a silver

3:38:41 > 3:38:47in the relay. He leads. The question here, surely, is whether these

3:38:47 > 3:38:53Olympic athletes of Russia can put the Norwegians or the Swedes under

3:38:53 > 3:39:03pressure. Each of these men will ski three times.

3:39:03 > 3:39:10three times. Sweden from Norway. Spitsov, the Olympic K athlete of

3:39:10 > 3:39:13Russia hanging on to Zak Bolland. Speaking of young talents they don't

3:39:13 > 3:39:30come bigger than the man with the pink poles and shades. He's in joint

3:39:30 > 3:39:34third place. Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo made his own piece of history

3:39:34 > 3:39:39here. The youngest ever male cross-country skiing wipter Olympic

3:39:39 > 3:39:43champion. Two golds, one in the sprint and the other in the relay.

3:39:43 > 3:39:47The manner of his victory, the man in third place with the pink poles,

3:39:47 > 3:39:56the manner of his two victories, as the cameras focus on the athlete

3:39:56 > 3:40:04from Sweden. He's the equivalent of Usain Bolt. He has made it look

3:40:04 > 3:40:13easy. France, Norway, the Olympic Athletes of Russia and Sweden. A big

3:40:13 > 3:40:18group coming together. Sundby in third place. When will the big move

3:40:18 > 3:40:25come and who will it be from? This race unfolds very, very quickly.

3:40:25 > 3:40:30Sweden lead.

3:40:30 > 3:40:34Sweden lead. Sundby 33 years of age. He had been chasing a gold that just

3:40:34 > 3:40:41seemed to escape him. Not so after the relay. He's had silver medals in

3:40:41 > 3:40:47the relay and bronze and silver medals in the skiathlons. Single

3:40:47 > 3:40:51file. They are all in a line. Most of the big names are still in

3:40:51 > 3:40:55contention. This is getting interesting as we embark on the

3:40:55 > 3:40:59fourth circuit. Can you see how much that is taking out of Denis Spitsov.

3:40:59 > 3:41:03He goes for a breather. To give you context from a Norwegian point of

3:41:03 > 3:41:06view, they will be sitting at home in their tens of millions watching

3:41:06 > 3:41:11this. This is a huge sport for Norway. There is Johannes Hoesflot

3:41:11 > 3:41:17Klaebo. Their new superstar. They have had a big day. They hit their

3:41:17 > 3:41:22target of 30 medals for Norway. Surpassed their target for golds in

3:41:22 > 3:41:29Pyeonchang. They have 11.

3:41:29 > 3:41:31Pyeonchang. They have 11.Olympic Athletes from Russia. Five times on

3:41:31 > 3:41:35the World Cup podium this year. The man streaking up the right hand

3:41:35 > 3:41:41side. His own distinct style up the hills. That was massive from

3:41:41 > 3:41:44Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. That is why they refer to him as the Usain

3:41:44 > 3:41:51Bolt on snow.

3:41:51 > 3:41:55Bolt on snow. Klaebo has shown why he's the new global star. He's won

3:41:55 > 3:42:00nine of 12 World Cup events so far this season. It's one thing winning

3:42:00 > 3:42:08here and there around Europe, it's quite another as when you arrive as

3:42:08 > 3:42:12a favourite and maybe deliver three golds. We have one complete circuit

3:42:12 > 3:42:17for each of the two members. Klaebo there has just shown why so many

3:42:17 > 3:42:21people in this sport are excited about what he is doing and what he's

3:42:21 > 3:42:25capable of doing in the future. Norway in the lead with two circuits

3:42:25 > 3:42:33remaining. There's Martin Johnsrud Sundby. Sundby has been a superb

3:42:33 > 3:42:35ambassador for Norwegian cross-country skiing. He's been

3:42:35 > 3:42:41beaten a few times by the man he's about to tap on the back. He says

3:42:41 > 3:42:46he's so talented Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo it's embarrassing to be in

3:42:46 > 3:42:50the same race as him sometimes. That from a man who stood on top of the

3:42:50 > 3:42:53Winter Olympic podium. Sundby has built on the lead that Klaebo

3:42:53 > 3:43:02delivered. Sweden in second. The Olympic Athletes from Russia.

3:43:05 > 3:43:10Klaebo embarks on this bid for a hat-trick of golds all before his

3:43:10 > 3:43:1322nd birthday. They are in the driving seat here. What can the best

3:43:13 > 3:43:18of the rest do to close him down on this last circuit? Surely, this is

3:43:18 > 3:43:24Norway's and Klaebo's to lose.It's a brilliant performance from Klaebo.

3:43:24 > 3:43:30It was looking a little bit tight up until his fourth circuit. Desperate

3:43:30 > 3:43:37battle for silver and bronze. At the moment being won by Bolton, the

3:43:37 > 3:43:41Olympic Athlete from Russia. Richard Jouve building on the work of

3:43:41 > 3:43:47Maurice Manificat on the penultimate circuit. Sweden now becoming

3:43:47 > 3:43:52detached.Norway from the Olympic Athletes from Russia. France in

3:43:52 > 3:43:59third they begin to think about their big drive towards the line.

3:43:59 > 3:44:03They have to close the gap. Phenomenal from Johannes Hoesflot

3:44:03 > 3:44:10Klaebo. He is 21 years of age. He's away and clear. How he will enjoy

3:44:10 > 3:44:15these celebrations as he comes into the finish. He will be unaware of

3:44:15 > 3:44:18the drama unfolding behind him he has time to look over his shoulder.

3:44:18 > 3:44:24We are watching someone who is as exciting in his sport as Usain Bolt

3:44:24 > 3:44:29was ten years ago when he pumped his chest as he crossed the line in

3:44:29 > 3:44:34Beijing. A global star is born. He wears pink shades, it's all gold for

3:44:34 > 3:44:40Klaebo. It's silver for the Olympic Athletes of Russia. Brilliant bronze

3:44:40 > 3:44:44for the French. Klaebo made that look easy. He is already a household

3:44:44 > 3:44:51name in Norway. Tonight, he produces an incredible hat-trick, three golds

3:44:51 > 3:44:57and he's still yet to turn 22. He could be around for a very, very

3:44:57 > 3:45:02long time to come. Fantastic performance. Norway on top in the

3:45:02 > 3:45:09Men's Team Sprint tonight. Klaebo the hero. His efforts are likely to

3:45:09 > 3:45:13be overshadowed by the heroics of the Iron Lady, Marit Bjoergen. 14th

3:45:13 > 3:45:19medal. The greatest and most decorated winter Olympian of

3:45:19 > 3:45:21all-time.

3:45:28 > 3:45:32Norway and take the edge of Marit Bjoergen's party if they can.

3:45:32 > 3:45:37Because for Britain, skip Eve Muirhead, she has propelled the

3:45:37 > 3:45:42women's curling teem to victory. It puts them in the semis while Canada

3:45:42 > 3:45:47are out. But Britain's men lost the last game

3:45:47 > 3:45:51to the USA which means Kyle Smith and his men need to beat the Swiss

3:45:51 > 3:45:57if they are to reach the last four. It is getting twitchy. Crowd funded

3:45:57 > 3:46:03duo Mica McNeill and Mica Moore finished 8th in the women's

3:46:03 > 3:46:06bobsleigh, Britain's best ever result in the event. Germany claimed

3:46:06 > 3:46:11gold.

3:46:11 > 3:46:22gold. And the Swiss skating team pursues produced the goods.

3:46:23 > 3:46:24pursues produced the goods. .

3:46:32 > 3:46:36What do Moser-Proll and Dorfmeister and Lindsey Vonn all have in common

3:46:36 > 3:46:43in you would not like to bet these ladies with a round of wine on the

3:46:43 > 3:46:48table, who is first down the line, these are the speed Queens, we are

3:46:48 > 3:46:54going to crown another one today.

3:47:27 > 3:47:32And I am delighted to say we have former British Olympic ski rare Ed

3:47:32 > 3:47:38Drake with me. Lovely to see you, have you enjoyed watching things if

3:47:38 > 3:47:43since your last, you appeared in Vancouver, in the down hill and

3:47:43 > 3:47:49another four events all told. How much have you enjoyed it?So nice to

3:47:49 > 3:47:52bask in Olympic fever again and it seems like yesterday not eight years

3:47:52 > 3:47:57ago I was donning my suit and battling down the tracks. You did it

3:47:57 > 3:48:02very well indeed. Eight years ago was the last time we saw Lindsey

3:48:02 > 3:48:05Vonn in the Olympic game, remind everybody the battle she has had in

3:48:05 > 3:48:13order to try and come back, having won that gold? She has had so many

3:48:13 > 3:48:17injuries and battled back and back, now she is seemingly in one piece,

3:48:17 > 3:48:21there is a niggle with her at moment. She's still not quite at her

3:48:21 > 3:48:26A game. She coiled have done with another couple of weeks, but she is

3:48:26 > 3:48:34the best in the world. She has been for such a long time. She is 33,

3:48:34 > 3:48:39what makes her so competitive?Think she's got such a great team round

3:48:39 > 3:48:46her, she has been competing for such a long time. She knows the track,

3:48:46 > 3:48:50the equipment really well. So she has the edge over a lot of girls who

3:48:50 > 3:48:53are younger than her.Indeed. Anything can happen in a women's

3:48:53 > 3:49:05down hill. The last time we got an joint gold, so, who would win the

3:49:05 > 3:49:11speed Queen's ultimate title today. 2018. Olympic women's down hill,

3:49:11 > 3:49:17here is under way. Racer number one could win this from

3:49:17 > 3:49:22bib number one. Make no mistake.

3:49:22 > 3:49:22Racer number one could win this from bib number one. Make no mistake.

3:49:22 > 3:49:26Huetter as she comes on the dragon ridge is a serious threat for

3:49:26 > 3:49:32success today. First jump takes her out right. Nice

3:49:32 > 3:49:38soft landing, can see it is less direct than the men's down hill was.

3:49:38 > 3:49:42Control gates all the same colour, they are red with the blue lines

3:49:42 > 3:49:49under foot on the track to aid the athletes' anticipation. A little

3:49:49 > 3:49:52mistake, slightly wobbly on landing but she corrected with plenty of

3:49:52 > 3:50:02time. She won the first down hill of the World Cup season. Back in late

3:50:02 > 3:50:08November, Leighton Baines Louise in Canada, who took the best chance for

3:50:08 > 3:50:13Austrian success today.

3:50:20 > 3:50:25One competitor has gone home opting not the ski it. She has decided that

3:50:25 > 3:50:31the track doesn't suit her, and that opened the door for one of the

3:50:31 > 3:50:40younger Austrians to take her place, that place went to Zeibenhoffer.

3:50:40 > 3:50:45They have had three training runs in the build up to race day. On Sunday,

3:50:45 > 3:50:50Monday and Tuesday, over the full distance, was one slightly altered

3:50:50 > 3:50:57to allow for, goodness me, a racing snow plough for Huetter, she got her

3:50:57 > 3:51:01ski tips closed, that isn't the way she wanted to finish with a proper

3:51:01 > 3:51:07scare. Look at the ski tips there, crossed that will have cost her,

3:51:07 > 3:51:14first of the Swiss. Corinne Suter is away. Went well in training,

3:51:14 > 3:51:18particularly in training run two on Monday, when she set the fifth

3:51:18 > 3:51:29fastest time. 4 hundredth faster than Huetter. She

3:51:29 > 3:51:35flies, makes the turn accurately. Now she gets bounced round, a little

3:51:35 > 3:51:41steering pivot. You don't see that often in down hill. It was a good

3:51:41 > 3:51:49manoeuvre from Suter. It has given her an increase advantage over

3:51:49 > 3:51:54Huetter after a near miss at the final stretch of this women's down

3:51:54 > 3:52:04hill. Huetter leads the way, Suter for Switzerland. Over the tails of

3:52:04 > 3:52:09the ski, then pushed her weight forward on landing. 31 metres of

3:52:09 > 3:52:16flight. It was green all the way, there is the first red light. 7

3:52:16 > 3:52:22hundredth of a second. Similar track to the one the men raced on. A

3:52:22 > 3:52:28slight variation on a theme. They go a different way round the magic

3:52:28 > 3:52:36tree, Suter getting pushed outside of the racing line. She is now the

3:52:36 > 3:52:44right side of that time. 0. 27 in front. Remember the Austrian had a

3:52:44 > 3:52:49big mistake on the finish. If she finishes cleanly she may well ski

3:52:49 > 3:52:57into first position. Comfortably. Three-quarters of a second.

3:53:04 > 3:53:11Weirather to go next. She I was pipped by by the gold medallist and

3:53:11 > 3:53:16ultimately by number 26, the snowboarder who is not racing today.

3:53:16 > 3:53:22She has gone over to start training for the parallel Giant Slalom,

3:53:22 > 3:53:27Olympic snowboard event.

3:53:27 > 3:53:31Olympic snowboard event. Fast and furious start for the 28-year-old

3:53:31 > 3:53:40from Liechtenstein. 30.13 for Suter. She is comfortably clearer that.

3:53:40 > 3:53:45Fine top section for her, she will have to make this next sweeping

3:53:45 > 3:53:51turn, got slightly airborne. Might not have anticipated that but didn't

3:53:51 > 3:53:59seem to do too much damage. The paradise turn, excluded perfectly by

3:53:59 > 3:54:05the multi-talented Lichtensteiner, who has been regularly on the World

3:54:05 > 3:54:12Cup podium. Look at this. She is throwing it down. 0. 0. 65. Bronze

3:54:12 > 3:54:17medallist in the super-g. Hoping to go into early gold medal spot here,

3:54:17 > 3:54:24in the main event, the women's down hill. No real errors from her. Her

3:54:24 > 3:54:32skis are fast, they have the waxing, got the preparation right. She is

3:54:32 > 3:54:38miles ahead of Suter. Surely all she has to do is stay on her feet. It is

3:54:38 > 3:54:45straight from here on in. In. Long jump and she leads the way in the

3:54:45 > 3:54:51Olympic down hill.

3:54:51 > 3:54:57Olympic down hill. Suter workers top spot didn't last long.

3:54:57 > 3:55:04Sofia Gong is ready to go. -- Goggia is ready to go. She has

3:55:04 > 3:55:09had two World Cup victories and a couple of podiums, she is high on

3:55:09 > 3:55:14the dragon ridge. Ridge. The winner of the Olympic test sleernt 12

3:55:14 > 3:55:23months ago. -- event. She has been going well in the three

3:55:23 > 3:55:29training runs and represents a serious, real threat to Lindsey

3:55:29 > 3:55:38Vonn's chance to win gold today. Goggia's left herself work to do.

3:55:38 > 3:55:45It is a sign of the commitment that Goggia is putting into this race,

3:55:45 > 3:55:49suffering a knee problem, she says is when she walks round the knee is

3:55:49 > 3:55:55sore, takes her ten minutes, just to be able to walk and climbing the

3:55:55 > 3:56:02stays is an issue, when gets in, she forgets all about it. Efull focus.

3:56:02 > 3:56:10That was a good jump. It has put Goggia back in the chase. 94

3:56:10 > 3:56:16kilometres an hour, she accelerates up beyond the 100 mark. Up to 104

3:56:16 > 3:56:22kilometres an hour. Smooth accurate turn, the 25-year-old Italian clouts

3:56:22 > 3:56:31that control gate. Next split it is slightly better for her. Goggia

3:56:31 > 3:56:35could back up the victory in the Olympic test vent by skiing into

3:56:35 > 3:56:41gold medal position here it is a brilliant run from gongia, she leads

3:56:41 > 3:56:46the way.

3:56:46 > 3:56:50the way. It's a big margin in, and that might bring her a medal today.

3:56:50 > 3:56:58Will it be gold. ? Was one of the risky moves that Goggia pulled

3:56:58 > 3:57:08straight down on the tails of her skis. Incredible strength.

3:57:08 > 3:57:14skis. Incredible strength. Lindsey Lindsey Vonn. 81 Pat Cummings

3:57:14 > 3:57:20victory -- World Cup victories. She looks to hunt down the world record

3:57:20 > 3:57:25of 86. She could add another couple of wins at the end of this season.

3:57:25 > 3:57:29Maybe beat that record. But the focus this season has been all about

3:57:29 > 3:57:37today. The Olympic down hill competition, she last won in

3:57:37 > 3:57:40Whistler, the Vancouver games, eight years ago, she has trained really

3:57:40 > 3:57:48well. She's had an argue of -- army of tech situation ins working on her

3:57:48 > 3:57:53ski, she is fast, focussed and flying there. Standing on the right

3:57:53 > 3:57:59ski, great turn coming into paradise. Lindsey Vonn is now 33

3:57:59 > 3:58:03years old. One of the oldest competitors in the competition. Is

3:58:03 > 3:58:12he is in front here, she is four tenths slower than Goggia and she

3:58:12 > 3:58:21and Goggia have gone toe to toe in so many races this season. Yes she

3:58:21 > 3:58:25is fastest through the speed gun. Will that translate to a green light

3:58:25 > 3:58:32here? Not quite. Vonn has to find time. Half a second off the pace of

3:58:32 > 3:58:40Goggia. The top two separated by 0. 63. A straight line to the finish

3:58:40 > 3:58:49now. Vonn is across the line and it's a silver.

3:58:52 > 3:58:55it's a silver. Goggia holds on. No gold medal for what will certainly

3:58:55 > 3:59:01be her final Olympic Games for Lindsey Vonn. Johnson for America

3:59:01 > 3:59:10next to ski. One of theupsters given the chance

3:59:10 > 3:59:14to race today because Mikaela Shifrin opted out of tackling the

3:59:14 > 3:59:18Olympic down hill, despite the fact she has had a World Cup win this

3:59:18 > 3:59:25season. Shifrin thought her best chance would be in tomorrow's alpine

3:59:25 > 3:59:30combined. The best chance to add to her medal tally, which is one gold

3:59:30 > 3:59:36medal from the Giant Slalom so far. Austrians top the alpine medal table

3:59:36 > 3:59:45with three golds. Golds. Breezy Johnson, skiing beautifully so far,

3:59:45 > 3:59:52109 through the last speed gun, smooth turns. That wasn't so clever

3:59:52 > 4:00:00now, a little lopsided on landing, how far away is she from Gobggi

4:00:00 > 4:00:05poor,'s time. She opened up her body, and naturally, the air is

4:00:05 > 4:00:12going to wrap round the ski racer, as she stands tall and slower. 87.3

4:00:12 > 4:00:19through that. She must have lost six, seven, eight kilometres an hour

4:00:19 > 4:00:28and she has lost a good deal of time too. 1.12 off the pace of Goggia.

4:00:28 > 4:00:36INTERPRETOR: Lindsey Vonn in silver at the moment. Tina Weirather in

4:00:36 > 4:00:44bronze. Breezy Johnson has finished in fifth for the USA.

4:00:45 > 4:00:48in fifth for the USA. The bronze medallists four years ago, Gut. She

4:00:48 > 4:00:56finished in the top ten in Sochi in the downhill to return to race four

4:00:56 > 4:01:03years later here. Good start for Gut. Getting after this. She will be

4:01:03 > 4:01:11full of aggression. She will be pent up. Travelling smoothly across the

4:01:11 > 4:01:20snow. Good turn. 30. # 11 Goggia. Gut0.35. Out of the competition.

4:01:20 > 4:01:27Pushing too hard. Too much aggression. Gut is out of

4:01:27 > 4:01:36contention.

4:01:36 > 4:01:42contention. Venier, big push out of the start. Silver-medallist in

4:01:42 > 4:01:47downhill from the World Championships in St Moritz last

4:01:47 > 4:01:52February. Setting the fastest time in training run number two on

4:01:52 > 4:01:57Monday. That's a nice flight. The skis are fast. Preparation for the

4:01:57 > 4:02:02race skis for these big occasions begins back in the summer with

4:02:02 > 4:02:07constant applications of layers of wax. The wax changes as the

4:02:07 > 4:02:11temperatures adjust as the season draws near. Goes from soft wax to

4:02:11 > 4:02:16hard wax to race wax. All about getting the timing right. The

4:02:16 > 4:02:21athletes will have a couple of their favourite pairs to choose from and

4:02:21 > 4:02:26the technicians will prepare them accordingly. Venier is absolutely

4:02:26 > 4:02:29tearing down this downhill course. Throwing everything at it. Good

4:02:29 > 4:02:37landing there. 29 meters of flight. The speed was strong. Venier is half

4:02:37 > 4:02:43a second off the pace as she heads uphill for a split second before

4:02:43 > 4:02:49plunging down the second-half. Out of the race. Hopefully no damage

4:02:49 > 4:02:59done. Her race is over. Just seemed to be innocuous inside ski mistake.

4:02:59 > 4:03:06Inside ski clipping the left boot, knocking the ski away from the carve

4:03:06 > 4:03:12and down goes Venier. No damage done.

4:03:14 > 4:03:18done. Michelle Gisin for Switzerland. Her sister Dominique

4:03:18 > 4:03:23was the gold medallists joint champion four years ago. After

4:03:23 > 4:03:29yesterday's training run, in which Gisin set the second quickest time,

4:03:29 > 4:03:35she you sought out the great millar, had a long chat with him about what

4:03:35 > 4:03:38would be the best strategy for race day. It was caught on camera. I was

4:03:38 > 4:03:47lucky enough to see it. Interesting to get his view on she could do to

4:03:47 > 4:03:50get in amongst the medals today. Let's see if she has paid attention

4:03:50 > 4:03:58and is able to execute any of millar's ideas. Bounced around quite

4:03:58 > 4:04:03badly there.

4:04:04 > 4:04:09badly there. That's a smooth turn from Michelle Gisin. Squashes the

4:04:09 > 4:04:17jump, pre-jumps it. 30 meters of flight. That was impressive. 1:

4:04:17 > 4:04:2101.26. Within a second of the Italian's lead. Probably too far

4:04:21 > 4:04:31away to push for a medal today. She will be looking ahead I think to

4:04:31 > 4:04:36tomorrow's albind combined where she has a proper chance of getting a

4:04:36 > 4:04:44medal for Switzerland. 1.15 off the pace. Too much. Not enough terrain,

4:04:44 > 4:04:51not enough speed left in this quite turny Olympic downhill. She's

4:04:51 > 4:04:58finished in sixth position. Oh, my word. A crashing finish from

4:04:58 > 4:05:05Michelle Gisin, absolutely exhausting. She's fine. Sute the

4:05:05 > 4:05:14best of the Swiss in fourth. Trust yourself, the instruction. Final

4:05:14 > 4:05:20words of instruction for Alices Mckennis from the United States of

4:05:20 > 4:05:26America, the 28-year-old. Mckennis begins her Olympic downhill run and

4:05:26 > 4:05:36starts fast as well.

4:05:36 > 4:05:46starts fast as well. 1100ths faster. Lovely jump. So far, so good.

4:05:49 > 4:05:54Another solid flight, and 900ths up. The first three splits have been

4:05:54 > 4:06:04green for Alices Mckennis, the American, known as "the alligator."

4:06:04 > 4:06:08Raced in Whistler eight years ago. Didn't finish the Olympic downhill

4:06:08 > 4:06:17on that day. But what a start she's made in 2018. Next jump from

4:06:17 > 4:06:22Mckennis, 98 on takeoff, 98 on landing, 2 # meters of distance. The

4:06:22 > 4:06:26split this time makes for less encouraging reading for the American

4:06:26 > 4:06:30fans. More than half a second off the pace. She was absolutely flying

4:06:30 > 4:06:37at the top. Skis chattering side ways as she tries to hold on to the

4:06:37 > 4:06:42racing line.

4:06:45 > 4:06:54racing line. Split 1: 23.27. 0.82 down for Mckennis out of the medals

4:06:54 > 4:07:02the way things stand. Long flight. A shakey on landing. She's gone four.

4:07:02 > 4:07:11She just out of the medals. Near miss for Mckennis. Viktoria

4:07:11 > 4:07:15Rebensberger next to ski for Germany. We know she can do what's

4:07:15 > 4:07:19required to get in amongst the medals here. She's got to get it

4:07:19 > 4:07:26right. Her Olympic outings so far here in Pyeonchang have been

4:07:26 > 4:07:32categorizised by with mistakes, errors. Olympic champion in Giant

4:07:32 > 4:07:35Slalom eight years ago. Missed a medal this time around, finishing in

4:07:35 > 4:07:41fourth. Tenth in the Super-G after a promising start. She let it slip on

4:07:41 > 4:07:49the bottom half of the mountain. Rebensberger travelling nicely.

4:07:49 > 4:08:01Promising start for the number one German. Last German to win this

4:08:01 > 4:08:09title won it twices in a row in 94 rand defended the title in 1998.

4:08:09 > 4:08:19Since then it's budgets France, Austria and Vonn in 2010 and the

4:08:19 > 4:08:30shared title in Sochi. They had to find an extra gold medal. Things

4:08:30 > 4:08:42have unravelled here for Rebensburg. Germany yet to trouble the alpine

4:08:42 > 4:08:46skiing medal table. They have had a fine Games all round. Nothing to

4:08:46 > 4:08:53show for their efforts in the alpine schedule.

4:08:54 > 4:09:01schedule. Rebensburg will not change things today. She is down in eighth.

4:09:03 > 4:09:10Let us see what Ragnhild Mowinckel can produce today. Norway's best.

4:09:10 > 4:09:15Ragnhild Mowinckel, number 19. Silver-medallists in the Olympic

4:09:15 > 4:09:22Giant Slalom last week. 13th in the Super-G. She's been consistent in

4:09:22 > 4:09:26World Cup downhill race this is season. Five times in the top ten.

4:09:26 > 4:09:31Never better than sixth. Two green lights to start with. Outstanding

4:09:31 > 4:09:40season. She was always one of the sort of middle order athletes until

4:09:40 > 4:09:45the start of the new World Cup season at the start of 2017 and

4:09:45 > 4:09:48started to show fine form. That was a huge turn there for Mowinckel of

4:09:48 > 4:09:58Norway. Norway have had a fine alpine programme, one gold, three

4:09:58 > 4:10:03silvers and a bronze so far. Mowinckel herself contributed to

4:10:03 > 4:10:09that herself with a silver from the Giant Slalom. 26 meters of flight.

4:10:09 > 4:10:14The speed is good. Three green lights and then a red. But not far.

4:10:14 > 4:10:19A tenth of a second off the pace. Mowinckel is bringing her A game to

4:10:19 > 4:10:25the biggest race of the season. The top three separated by 0.63.

4:10:25 > 4:10:29Mowinckel picks an unusual line into that left-footed turn. Has that

4:10:29 > 4:10:37brought her the reward? Can she skier than 1: 23.27? Not far off.

4:10:37 > 4:10:42Mowinckel of nor way may well move in amongst the medals. Can she ski

4:10:42 > 4:10:48quickly enough to go into gold? She was slightly wide on that last turn.

4:10:48 > 4:10:54Off the final jump, Mowinckel has gone into silver. 900ths of a

4:10:54 > 4:10:59second.

4:11:01 > 4:11:05second. Second Olympic medal. A second silver for Ragnhild Mowinckel

4:11:05 > 4:11:10of Norway.

4:11:12 > 4:11:14of Norway. What a day for Sofia Goggia. The first Italian woman ever

4:11:14 > 4:11:18to win the Olympic downhill title. Italy have their fist alpine gold of

4:11:18 > 4:11:23the Games. A second silver for Ragnhild Mowinckel in the downhill

4:11:23 > 4:11:29and Lindsey Vonn, the champion eight years ago, goes home with the

4:11:29 > 4:11:34downhill bronze in 2018. 2018.

4:11:34 > 4:11:37You overcame all of the pressure, all of the expectation and you got a

4:11:37 > 4:11:43bronze today?Yeah. It was intense. I think mostly it was intense

4:11:43 > 4:11:45because I just wanted to win

4:11:45 > 4:11:47I think mostly it was intense because I just wanted to win for my

4:11:47 > 4:11:53grandpa It's hard to process it's my last Olympic downhill race. I really

4:11:53 > 4:12:01want to keep racing forever, but I can't. So...Knowing your family and

4:12:01 > 4:12:03your grandfather would be so happy you went out there and did your

4:12:03 > 4:12:11best, you know?I hope so.

4:12:11 > 4:12:16best, you know?I hope so.Oh, come here.

4:12:16 > 4:12:20I chatted with your dad earlier and he was here to support you. He

4:12:20 > 4:12:24didn't care about what time you had along the finish as long as you knew

4:12:24 > 4:12:29that you had gone out there and pushed it. You did, you charged and

4:12:29 > 4:12:32you the Super-G, this is how you came back. It shows you are a true

4:12:32 > 4:12:38champion.Thanks. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure my dad will find something that

4:12:38 > 4:12:44I did wrong. He loves to be critical. It meant a lot to me that

4:12:44 > 4:12:51he was here. You know we had rough times there, he wasn't in Vancouver

4:12:51 > 4:12:58when I won. It went meant a lot to me he was there. Yeah. I mean, we've

4:12:58 > 4:13:03all been really emotional because of my grandfather and so it meant a lot

4:13:03 > 4:13:10to all of us to be here altogether. Yeah. It's a really emotional day.

4:13:10 > 4:13:14I'm really proud to walk away with a medal. It may not be gold. I'm sure

4:13:14 > 4:13:18a lot of people will say I should have got the gold. You know what,

4:13:18 > 4:13:22it's so hard to win or to get a medal at the Olympics and I'm proud

4:13:22 > 4:13:28of my performance. I'm walking away very happy.Quite light rightly.

4:13:28 > 4:13:32Following up with a bronze medal eight years after a gold medal. How

4:13:32 > 4:13:35much should she take out of that performance today? It was

4:13:35 > 4:13:37extraordinary, really.She was extraordinary.

4:13:37 > 4:13:43She skied well. Didn't quite go her way today, Goggia skied very

4:13:43 > 4:13:47nicelies, especially from the second inter mediate towards the finish and

4:13:47 > 4:13:51made up good time. Vonn not quite at it. You can see with Lindsay, she is

4:13:51 > 4:13:56a little bit more open with her upper body, catching a bit more air.

4:13:56 > 4:14:00Not quite as dynamic as we are used to seeing from her. She is usually

4:14:00 > 4:14:03very, very aggressive and took a wider line getting caught out by

4:14:03 > 4:14:07some of the trickier turning gates today. There was a lot of hype and a

4:14:07 > 4:14:15lot of expectations. She has been the poster girl afor these games. To

4:14:15 > 4:14:23hand tl handle that and come away with a medal how would the American

4:14:23 > 4:14:29public look on it?Hopefully favourably. They should be proud of

4:14:29 > 4:14:35her. She has had an immense pressure put upon her by the public and by

4:14:35 > 4:14:41herself and come away with a bronze medal, remarkable. She is in the

4:14:41 > 4:14:48start list for tomorrow's combined event. She is chasing a total wins

4:14:48 > 4:14:54tally. 81 at the moment. She has to keep going? She certainly has. She

4:14:54 > 4:14:57has earmarked that for a long time. Until she gets the record. A season,

4:14:57 > 4:15:01two seasons I think she will keep going until that's not a possibility

4:15:01 > 4:15:06any more.The Italians celebrating their first ever women's downhill

4:15:06 > 4:15:11victory.Amazing.Sofia Goggia commitment, usually on the edge this

4:15:11 > 4:15:17skier. A chaotic skier usually. She said today, "I was giving attention

4:15:17 > 4:15:22to every little detail, moving like a samurai."Not like her. She is a

4:15:22 > 4:15:28wild crazy skier that takes all the risks all the time. Maybe she was

4:15:28 > 4:15:32focussing in on the small details and stuff. Smoother than we see

4:15:32 > 4:15:37normally see her. Thoughtful in terms of her inspection run. She

4:15:37 > 4:15:40earmarked steeps to flat transitions to carry the speed across. It really

4:15:40 > 4:15:44worked for her. She is leading the World Cup overall standings. It's

4:15:44 > 4:15:47not for downhill. It's not out of the blue she is this quick. She

4:15:47 > 4:15:55really, really did a number on the track today. She sure did. When you

4:15:55 > 4:16:00look back over history, Daniella Ceccharelli and Super-G winner no

4:16:00 > 4:16:04female downhill -Crazy. Outstanding. Such great mountains

4:16:04 > 4:16:08they have there. The history of Italian ski racing to never have had

4:16:08 > 4:16:10a ladies downhill champion is outstanding.It is.

4:16:16 > 4:16:22You nearly competed for Great Britain at Sochi in the men's zee

4:16:22 > 4:16:27cross. It is a harem-scarem event, one mown tairntion one racer at a

4:16:27 > 4:16:34time. And after you, in alpine but not so in ski cross, what was the

4:16:34 > 4:16:41allure for you?It looked so much fun, think it reminded me of being a

4:16:41 > 4:16:45child, when would finish your train, stick on your rucksack and race down

4:16:45 > 4:16:50to the van. The last one had to do a stupid forfeit and it is just a

4:16:50 > 4:16:54great laugh. You are skiing with your friends, it is big jump, close

4:16:54 > 4:17:00racing, it is raw, it is raw.OK. A lot of injuries potentially this one

4:17:00 > 4:17:06as well. Not just the money for the hot chocolate at the end.Because

4:17:06 > 4:17:11you are fighting over the same small piece of snow, you want to be if you

4:17:11 > 4:17:15are second you want to be behind someone for the slipstream. You are

4:17:15 > 4:17:18fighting for a small piece of snow. We have learned over the years in

4:17:18 > 4:17:25this one, to expect the unexpected. It is the men's ski cross, wh an

4:17:25 > 4:17:36event this turned out to be. The first of the quarterfinals

4:17:36 > 4:17:36approach

4:17:36 > 4:17:43The first of the quarterfinals approach the gate.

4:17:43 > 4:17:50approach the gate. The blue bib of Bischofberger. Pressure on the tips

4:17:50 > 4:17:54of the ski, you can see them bending, they are out and away. And

4:17:54 > 4:17:59they are neck and neck, all the way through there.Still neck and neck.

4:17:59 > 4:18:11Head-to-head. The blue bib has the best line coming in now.

4:18:11 > 4:18:15best line coming in now. Less Mann has more speed. Watch the red bib on

4:18:15 > 4:18:18the inside there as they all go long.A speed check. Just enough to

4:18:18 > 4:18:28keep in there.I think too much from the blue bib, as Brady makes a big

4:18:28 > 4:18:37gap out in front. Through the compression, at the moment, it is

4:18:37 > 4:18:45red sitting back at the blue bib stays.Placed fourth in Sochi, he is

4:18:45 > 4:18:49after redemption here.He is looking very clean as they come on to the

4:18:49 > 4:18:58home straight.Oh, no. A crash.What happened there?It looked like Alex

4:18:58 > 4:19:07crashed and then, the...The other skier had to swerve to avoid him.

4:19:07 > 4:19:15Missed the gate. But it was...He wasn't in the mix.Neither of them

4:19:15 > 4:19:22were, it is Brady the Canadian who makes it through comfortably and the

4:19:22 > 4:19:28World Cup standings leader comes through in second. Both are OK.

4:19:28 > 4:19:34Brady, he is really flying on this course.

4:19:34 > 4:19:38Can see that Kermit the frog move they do, knees either side of their

4:19:38 > 4:19:53chest.So confirmation of the first of our quarterfinals, Leman and

4:19:53 > 4:19:59Bischofberger go to the semifinals.

4:20:05 > 4:20:09Look how he is pulling himself up. Bending the ski tips and they are

4:20:09 > 4:20:19out and under way, and it is Niederer looking good. All three

4:20:19 > 4:20:25very close, but Fliser is out in front and has the direction.Contact

4:20:25 > 4:20:30with between two, the Austrian in the yellow struggling. It in the red

4:20:30 > 4:20:36neck and neck, the battle for second and third will be tight.Skiing very

4:20:36 > 4:20:42well. The World Champion from 2015. Redirected on that off camber

4:20:42 > 4:20:52traverse, they are trying to get a better line. And Philip. He has

4:20:52 > 4:20:56speed and he's threw. The Swiss is through on the Austrian. He pushed

4:20:56 > 4:21:02him way out.Time for one, perhaps one more pass? No, he is flying, he

4:21:02 > 4:21:09is catching up. He is overtaking. He drops back in to second. Is he

4:21:09 > 4:21:13losing enough speed to come into contact with the Austrian? He has

4:21:13 > 4:21:19pulled that back, he is dragging behind.Oh no! Making it across on

4:21:19 > 4:21:30one ski, but it is not enough. Not threw and it is, wow, safely through

4:21:30 > 4:21:39for Niederer. The Swiss maybe took his eye off the ball. The top two go

4:21:39 > 4:21:46threw.He didn't scoec up that jump enough. He got his legs in here and

4:21:46 > 4:21:57started pulling out the bull frog to make sure they didn't get past him.

4:22:04 > 4:22:09Alex in the semifinal. In the red bib, fastest qualifier in

4:22:09 > 4:22:20this heat is Drury of Canada. Then the winner of the seventh, 8th final

4:22:20 > 4:22:25Robert Winkler.

4:22:26 > 4:22:31Robert Winkler. Watch out for the skier in the blue bib.The Russian,

4:22:31 > 4:22:36I feel like he was gifted a place here, he came through, after that

4:22:36 > 4:22:40take out crash. It will be interesting to see if he can stay in

4:22:40 > 4:22:46contact with the racing here. The skier in blue. Winkler in green and

4:22:46 > 4:22:52Drury in red.I think this is about Drury. He really really controlled

4:22:52 > 4:23:01his heat, but, wow. Winkler in green is in front.Look at the skier in

4:23:01 > 4:23:06blue, he has speed. He is such a massive unit. He has landed on the

4:23:06 > 4:23:11back of that knuckle so Winkler tucks in behind. Drury in the red

4:23:11 > 4:23:17out in front.A speed check from the skier in blue. From Drury as well.

4:23:17 > 4:23:22Drury got a lovely sharp line. Set up nicely through the chicane.

4:23:22 > 4:23:26Winkler in the green, struggling to keep up with the Frenchman in

4:23:26 > 4:23:31second. Then making a move from fourth. He is on the inside. He is

4:23:31 > 4:23:36going to take him outches. He has taken out Winkler. The big threat is

4:23:36 > 4:23:42the Russian.I think the skier in the blue is clear and through. This

4:23:42 > 4:23:49race is going to form, barring any crashes on these final big kickers.

4:23:49 > 4:23:58So Kevin Drury of Canada leads. France in second place. Then a grab.

4:23:58 > 4:24:06Over the final jump. Safety grab is that.Safety is same side. Mute is

4:24:06 > 4:24:10across. So mute grab, not particularly style liedsed one. This

4:24:10 > 4:24:16is the point. Watch at the back. In yellow, inside Winkler.Took him

4:24:16 > 4:24:24out.Would he get DQed for this? Immaterial. He is just ahead adds he

4:24:24 > 4:24:29went through.Drury showed a clean set of heels, whether he can stay

4:24:29 > 4:24:36that way remains to be seen.

4:24:36 > 4:24:44that way remains to be seen.So now on to the last of our quarterfinals.

4:24:44 > 4:24:50The Russian is in red. He is up against the Frenchman in green and

4:24:50 > 4:24:56the Frenchman in blue. Dave Duncan could be a silent threat from the

4:24:56 > 4:25:03Canadian, he is on the far side of the screen.

4:25:03 > 4:25:12The red bib of the Russian. Qualified in seeding. So the

4:25:12 > 4:25:19Francesca men in blue and green. He has a problem. He is out of the race

4:25:19 > 4:25:26and it is Canadian Dave Duncan in the lead.So Duncan and the

4:25:26 > 4:25:32Frenchman shoulder to shoulder. Beautiful line. But trying to push

4:25:32 > 4:25:36Dave Duncan out. He has opened the door for the Russian to come in. He

4:25:36 > 4:25:40has made a move and overtaken the Olympic champion. This could be a

4:25:40 > 4:25:48shock, but... He has, he really wants...Coming round on the

4:25:48 > 4:25:54outside, with speed, he has cut to the inside.Looking down every door.

4:25:54 > 4:25:58On the inside. Not enough speed to make the move.He is slipstreaming

4:25:58 > 4:26:05here and he has the inside line. No, no. He shuts the door, comes

4:26:05 > 4:26:13through, could this be a massive shock.Awe four come through, the

4:26:13 > 4:26:16Russian moving into first, the two French men chasing down the Canadian

4:26:16 > 4:26:23and the Russian, as they come over the last jump. No, no, no. It's the

4:26:23 > 4:26:30Russian and the Canadian through, and the French men are out. The

4:26:30 > 4:26:36reigning Olympic champion is out new the quarterfinals. ? Dave looked

4:26:36 > 4:26:40almost criminally relaxed at certain point. He was taking the line choice

4:26:40 > 4:26:43he wanted and seem I willing no-one was getting close. This was

4:26:43 > 4:26:50brilliant. Looking for any space, either side of the Russian.

4:26:50 > 4:26:59The gold medal will go to someone new here at Phoenix Park.

4:26:59 > 4:27:05Confirmation, Ridzik and Duncan progress. Back up to the top. And in

4:27:05 > 4:27:16the red bib we have Niederer. Then Flisar in blue. Even though he is in

4:27:16 > 4:27:24blue the man is going to go very well, here.

4:27:25 > 4:27:27So Niederer not panicking, pulled himself all the way through the

4:27:27 > 4:27:33pack, into the lead. So we have two Swiss, one Slovenian

4:27:33 > 4:27:41and a Canadian. And the Swiss drop and it is looking like Brady Leman

4:27:41 > 4:27:49on the outside has ahead of Flisar. And Marc on the inside. Flisar in

4:27:49 > 4:27:55third. The man in blue in second. But it is Marc in yellow who blasted

4:27:55 > 4:28:02out in front.I think that maybe Flisar cancelled each other out.

4:28:02 > 4:28:08They let the Swiss through. The unfavoured Swiss. He made a mistake,

4:28:08 > 4:28:14he has opened the door.Leman has taken advantage. Desperately

4:28:14 > 4:28:24fighting to find a way in behind Flisar. The Canadian and the Swiss,

4:28:24 > 4:28:33battling it out.A great line. Making a move on Flisar.Can

4:28:33 > 4:28:39Niederer do what he did before? It is Leman's to lose here. He is

4:28:39 > 4:28:48heading to the last kicker.Look at Niederer. It is close. Leman is

4:28:48 > 4:28:52through, he is into the final again. Fourth place last time round in

4:28:52 > 4:29:01Sochi, what can he do now? This is where we see that mistake from Marc.

4:29:01 > 4:29:09He learned in too much.As long as he can ski cleanly, that is when he

4:29:09 > 4:29:16made his move.Brilliant racing.If it wasn't for the mistake from Marc,

4:29:16 > 4:29:23Marc would have taken that wink but it doesn't matter, he is through. He

4:29:23 > 4:29:28will know, make a mistake like that in the final and you could end up

4:29:28 > 4:29:32out of the medals.? Back up for the second of the semifinals. We have

4:29:32 > 4:29:41the Russian there, Drury the second of the three Canadians, Canadian and

4:29:41 > 4:29:45Dave Duncan the third and final Canadian. He broke his collarbone

4:29:45 > 4:29:53ahead of the Olympics in Vancouver. Beast in the St lane nearest to us.

4:29:53 > 4:29:57He hasn't been starting that quickly, he makes his presence felt.

4:29:57 > 4:30:06He has done the same thing. His made a right hash brown of it.He is keen

4:30:06 > 4:30:10to cut out the todayians so Dave Duncan in the yellow -- delow, it is

4:30:10 > 4:30:14Drury in the green trying to go round the outside. The mass has

4:30:14 > 4:30:18worked through and somehow he is back in the mix.Back in the mix but

4:30:18 > 4:30:23he is flailing in last place right now.So the battle is between the

4:30:23 > 4:30:27two Canadians for second and third. They are the qualifying spots. It is

4:30:27 > 4:30:33Dave Duncan xh the yellow in second. Drury, on one ski as they race round

4:30:33 > 4:30:41the outside.Duncan, has he let the team made through? He has.

4:30:42 > 4:30:45team made through? He has. After all of these mistakes... In third on the

4:30:45 > 4:30:49tails of the Russian. Dave Duncan was opening over the tails of the

4:30:49 > 4:30:56skis in fourth. So the battle for second appears to be Ridzik at the

4:30:56 > 4:30:59moment.

4:30:59 > 4:31:05This is the last jump.Kevin Drury out in front. Ridzik in second.

4:31:05 > 4:31:09Bovolenta in third. Dave Duncan slipping all the way down to fourth.

4:31:09 > 4:31:14What a race. So many switches through the first two-thirds of that

4:31:14 > 4:31:20race.

4:31:20 > 4:31:24Mistake by Bovolenta on this. He comes to a stop and has to start

4:31:24 > 4:31:30poling to get going again. What does he do wrong wrong here absorbed it

4:31:30 > 4:31:37too early.Timing.Yeah. Absorbed it too early.That's Ridzik''s big move

4:31:37 > 4:31:43on the outside. So close, Dave Duncan actually sheaves speed to

4:31:43 > 4:31:49make sure he doesn't take down Brady Leman. It's looking like it will be

4:31:49 > 4:31:57a real Humdinger. We've got two Canadians through, Kevin Drury and

4:31:57 > 4:32:02Brady Leman. And Bischofberger is looking very strong as well. If he

4:32:02 > 4:32:06can get out in front, Bischofberger, he could take gold. He has two

4:32:06 > 4:32:11Canadians to worry about. Kevin Drury and Sergey Ridzik. We move

4:32:11 > 4:32:17back up to the top. It's time to hand out the medals. This is going

4:32:17 > 4:32:23to be very, very close. They are lining up in the gates.

4:32:23 > 4:32:28Bischofberger, as you said, Graham, has taken out three World Cup

4:32:28 > 4:32:32victories this year. He leads the World Cup standings. Heel looked

4:32:32 > 4:32:35less than convincing in the early rounds, but he has certainly come to

4:32:35 > 4:32:41the forenow. Bischofberger is in the lane closer to the camera. The

4:32:41 > 4:32:45mechanic, from Switzerland. Up against the Olympic Athlete from

4:32:45 > 4:32:48Russia, Sergey Ridzik. He has raced very, very well.

4:32:48 > 4:32:54Quickest of these races in the seeding round. There is Brady Leman.

4:32:54 > 4:32:59His third chance, fourth agonisingly in Sochi four years ago.In the

4:32:59 > 4:33:05green bib on the outside, unusually opting to choose the outside lane is

4:33:05 > 4:33:10Kevin Drury. The Canadians so, so fast, the Russian so clever.

4:33:10 > 4:33:16Bischofberger, so wildy.

4:33:16 > 4:33:21Bischofberger, so wildy. They are under starters orders. This drop off

4:33:21 > 4:33:30start.Be on the gate. Pressure on the skis. They're off. Leman looking

4:33:30 > 4:33:35good at the start. The Russian is ahead. The Canadians are miles back

4:33:35 > 4:33:39as Bischofberger and Ridzik race out in front. Now there's a lot of work

4:33:39 > 4:33:47to be done by the Canadians.Brady Leman look at that move. Oh it's

4:33:47 > 4:33:54again for the Russia. Who can get up it is aest.Drurpy has lost his ski.

4:33:54 > 4:33:57Battle for gold between Bischofberger and Leman.Guaranteed

4:33:57 > 4:34:03a medal if he can take on his feet. It's Bischofberger who is in silver

4:34:03 > 4:34:09medal position chasing down Leman in first. Can he claim the bronze

4:34:09 > 4:34:13Ridzik or the Canadian.Ridzik had both skis on. We are focussing on

4:34:13 > 4:34:17the front of the race. Incredible from Brady Leman. Egypt years ago he

4:34:17 > 4:34:22broke his leg ahead of the Winter Olympic Games. Four years ago placed

4:34:22 > 4:34:26agonisingly fourth fourth. Losing time. This could be good interest

4:34:26 > 4:34:33from the Canadian.Bischofberger. As they come over the last lump here.

4:34:33 > 4:34:41But that's it. Gold medal, finally, for Brady Leman. What an incredible

4:34:41 > 4:34:45performance.Silver for Marc Bischofberger. The Swiss leader of

4:34:45 > 4:34:51the World Cup. He turns that form on the World Cup into a medal here.

4:34:51 > 4:34:57It's Sergey Ridzik, the Russian, working his way through.

4:34:57 > 4:35:01Unfortunately for Kev run Drury, who convincingly led every single one of

4:35:01 > 4:35:07his races up to this point, who is taken out.I think he went. I think

4:35:07 > 4:35:13it was Drury that went down. We will see that crash again. These are the

4:35:13 > 4:35:17medallists. Look what it means to Brady Leman. It has taken him so

4:35:17 > 4:35:21long, to get on on to an Olympic podium. On to top spot.Brilliant

4:35:21 > 4:35:28news. Lovely to see Kevin Drury skiing down. We didn't want tonight

4:35:28 > 4:35:32see another injury here. It's been a brutal day of racing here at the

4:35:32 > 4:35:40Men's Ski Cross. A final worthy of each of these competitors. These are

4:35:40 > 4:35:45the gladiators of snow sports. They really are. Everything on the line.

4:35:45 > 4:35:53Total risk. No sense of self preservation. No quarter given at

4:35:53 > 4:35:58any stage. The silver-medallist, Marc Bischofberger, in front of that

4:35:58 > 4:36:04ecstatic crew of travelling Swiss fans. Then in bronze medal position,

4:36:04 > 4:36:10the first man to get back up off the snow is the Russian, Sergey Ridzik.

4:36:10 > 4:36:17Phenomenal performance from him throughout the day. Kevin Drury just

4:36:17 > 4:36:21outside the medals in fourth position.Bischofberger was right

4:36:21 > 4:36:26over the front of his skis. Beautifully positioned. The speed

4:36:26 > 4:36:33that Leman gets coming into here. It was a definite fall. Drury went down

4:36:33 > 4:36:39first.Basically took Ridzik out at the knees. If it had gone the other

4:36:39 > 4:36:49way, then it would have been a protest.Look at that. A man on his

4:36:49 > 4:36:53way to a bronze. He knew what was at stake. He would have been awarded

4:36:53 > 4:36:57the bronze anyway even if he hadn't crossed the line third because he

4:36:57 > 4:37:00was taken out, definitely taken out by the Canadian crashing in front of

4:37:00 > 4:37:09him.Brady Leman soaking up these jumps. Down into the finish area.

4:37:09 > 4:37:14Bischofberger so close he could nearly touch Leman. He takes the

4:37:14 > 4:37:18silver. It's Ridzik for bronze.

4:37:18 > 4:37:20nearly touch Leman. He takes the silver. It's Ridzik for bronze.Watt

4:37:20 > 4:37:26an event. Gladiators on snow. Our director said as we watched that, we

4:37:26 > 4:37:30should have a bond theme throughout the whole thing. It's got that vibe.

4:37:30 > 4:37:37Hasn't it?Such a cool event.Is it as much fun to take part in?It is.

4:37:37 > 4:37:42It's everything you want in sport. Speed, jumps, a bit of a battle.

4:37:42 > 4:37:48It's so well-received across the world. It's a brilliant event. I'm

4:37:48 > 4:37:51pleased it in the Games. How much can you get awhich with out there?

4:37:51 > 4:37:57Almost anything goes. No punching, eye gauging or stabbing people with

4:37:57 > 4:38:01your poles. There are rules. Not much really. You are fighting for a

4:38:01 > 4:38:05small space in the snow. You can adjust your lines slightly. You

4:38:05 > 4:38:13can't ski into somebody. You can play with the lines, cut up somebody

4:38:13 > 4:38:18up your side. Are you defending as well as skiing side. Double edged

4:38:18 > 4:38:24sword.You can block by making yourself wide.As wide as possible

4:38:24 > 4:38:27like in Formula One. You make yourself as difficult as possible to

4:38:27 > 4:38:42get past. It means you can take a sligly longer line.A journey for

4:38:42 > 4:38:48Leman to get to the gold medal. He broke his leg before Vancouver. He

4:38:48 > 4:38:51has been there since the beginning. One of the best athletes in ski

4:38:51 > 4:38:57cross for a long time. Fourth place last time out. Not to be sniffed at.

4:38:57 > 4:39:02The tick in the box, a medal and a gold medal at that. I think he will

4:39:02 > 4:39:05be absolutely ecstatic help was very, very consistent through the

4:39:05 > 4:39:09whole training also this season with Bischofberger in second place. He

4:39:09 > 4:39:12has been doing really well.He has indeed. Canada have another gold

4:39:12 > 4:39:17medal. From skis to snowboards, which it's about the only thing that

4:39:17 > 4:39:21Ed hasn't competed on for Great Britain over the years. It's Big

4:39:21 > 4:39:30Air. We have three competitors in qualifying are the Big Air. Billy

4:39:30 > 4:39:36Morgan has been a trailblazer. He came up with tricks that the others

4:39:36 > 4:39:40tried to perfect in his wake. He was trying to get into the Big Air

4:39:40 > 4:39:50Final. It's watched by Tim and Ed. Welcome to Men's Snowboard Big Air

4:39:50 > 4:39:55qualifications.

4:39:58 > 4:40:06qualifications.Junior World Champ Champion

4:40:06 > 4:40:13qualifications.Junior World Champ Champion 2014That was really nice.

4:40:13 > 4:40:18That leg grab in there. It's a big signpost to the judges. They hate

4:40:18 > 4:40:25seeing that. Third place.

4:40:31 > 4:40:35It's all on the line here. Unlucky not to make finals in slopestyle. He

4:40:35 > 4:40:40really was. He will want to make amends here. He needs to send it

4:40:40 > 4:40:48from the top here. Hashtag, full send24 years of age. He barely took

4:40:48 > 4:40:56a side slip there. Powering in for the 14.40.Yes. That is how you do

4:40:56 > 4:41:03it.Flat spin. 1440. Big.It was switch. Yes. Look at what it means

4:41:03 > 4:41:10to him. Scoffs the take off. Loses 90 degrees.Where is the body grab?

4:41:10 > 4:41:18There isn't one. It's held all the way. Boom! Lands a tiny bit short.

4:41:18 > 4:41:25Oh, this is nerve-wracking.He doesn't really know. It's not there.

4:41:25 > 4:41:32Eighth place he knocks down his fellow countryman. He knows for 2018

4:41:32 > 4:41:39his Olympics is done. This is going to be a lot of fun. What is Max

4:41:39 > 4:41:44Parrot going to do? He has the lead at the moment very comfortably. Will

4:41:44 > 4:41:50he send this one and use this jump to test things out. Will he coast

4:41:50 > 4:41:58along? Going frontsided again, I think. Same trick. Even better. An

4:41:58 > 4:42:04improvement in the score for him. It's a reflection of the dedication

4:42:04 > 4:42:11and work that Max Parrot puts in. No-one who works like Parrot am he

4:42:11 > 4:42:15matches that dedication with the desire to win.

4:42:18 > 4:42:23I told you. Take a bow. We are watching the man who everyone else

4:42:23 > 4:42:29has to bet.

4:42:30 > 4:42:41has to bet.Next Chris Corning.No slouch on a snowboard.

4:42:47 > 4:42:53Another 1440. We did talk about the fact that this under the trade

4:42:53 > 4:42:57description act should be called medium sized air. It's not

4:42:57 > 4:43:01diminishing the spectacle am we are not seeing the arms race for corn

4:43:01 > 4:43:06corks we have seen in Big Air contests. We are seeing style and

4:43:06 > 4:43:10creativity with grabs starting to come to the fore. It does nullify

4:43:10 > 4:43:14the threat somewhat of someone like Chris Corning who is a quad cork

4:43:14 > 4:43:20machine. He relies on the fire power of the big tricks. The American

4:43:20 > 4:43:33currently on 85. 88. So he jumps into second place ahead of fellow

4:43:33 > 4:43:38countryman Kyle Mack.None of this heat up to the challenge of taking

4:43:38 > 4:43:44down Parrot at the moment. Kyle Mack. He brings his own flavour and

4:43:44 > 4:43:53style.Show us a Dracula. A Japan. Oh, my goodness. Look at how much of

4:43:53 > 4:43:58a handful he grabs of that takeoff. He needs all that rotation. Oh, boot

4:43:58 > 4:44:03grab. When he does this, stretches the Japan out, he's stopping the

4:44:03 > 4:44:08rotation. So stop, and then accelerates the board through the

4:44:08 > 4:44:11last bit. Like he's flicking a rubber band. Stretching it and

4:44:11 > 4:44:16flicking it into the back end of that trick, isn't it. Great tweak

4:44:16 > 4:44:21but from a boot grab. How much will the judges punish him for a boot

4:44:21 > 4:44:30grab. 88. 75.The judges seemingly not too worried about the boot grab.

4:44:30 > 4:44:35Interesting.

4:44:38 > 4:44:45Interesting.Redmond Gerard.

4:44:45 > 4:44:53Currently in seventh. He needs something very, very good here.

4:44:53 > 4:45:00Again, opens up very early. He needs something a little bit more

4:45:00 > 4:45:05exciting. The thing is, because he's coming out of the trick so early,

4:45:05 > 4:45:09he's got room for it. It feels to me he's sold himself a little short

4:45:09 > 4:45:13there.

4:45:13 > 4:45:22What do I know? The judges saw it cleaned up they have given it an 85.

4:45:22 > 4:45:31So he is currently in 15th, Mattson. He has the power.Like Jamie

4:45:31 > 4:45:36Nicholls he doesn't dip his spins so no short cuts for him. All of his

4:45:36 > 4:45:41row theys are kept flat. Think he is changing that now.

4:45:41 > 4:45:48Oh my goodness. Unlimited power. That was beautiful. Look at the way

4:45:48 > 4:45:52he comes through here. Such beautiful close board control.

4:45:52 > 4:45:56I rode with him in Switzerland back in January, what he was capable of,

4:45:56 > 4:46:03was breathtaking. Backside 1620.The first

4:46:03 > 4:46:08four-and-a-half spins we have seen put down nice and cleanly.

4:46:08 > 4:46:16Solid.The trailing hand is just poised.Definitely tucks it.Look at

4:46:16 > 4:46:23that. He is well within reach of the top

4:46:23 > 4:46:31spot. It is Rowan Coultas.

4:46:33 > 4:46:39Coming out of Bedford via Austria. He goes big and it is clean but the

4:46:39 > 4:46:44trailing arm was on the fee again. -- knee again. We need to have a

4:46:44 > 4:46:49good look at this, but he is trying, you can see, he gets the thigh

4:46:49 > 4:46:53there. But watch. Stays off the knee.

4:46:53 > 4:47:00Don't know.I think it does. Oh it is an improvement but not

4:47:00 > 4:47:03enough. Oh no.

4:47:03 > 4:47:10He missed out by 0. 5. Max Parrot looking all powerful at

4:47:10 > 4:47:14the top of the standings there, no-one even close to that 92.5. Not

4:47:14 > 4:47:25when you lock at how close the scores were, fifth place Schaerer.

4:47:25 > 4:47:29Jamie nickels in 11th. It is not done and dusted. Heat two just

4:47:29 > 4:47:41around the corner. Bergrem. We have talked about the

4:47:41 > 4:47:45fact this Norwegian, supremely talented has sat in shadow of the

4:47:45 > 4:47:51more high profile names. He is incredibly stylish and brilliant at

4:47:51 > 4:48:00big air. Yes, big air winner, 1620! Oh my goodness! Goodness! Look at

4:48:00 > 4:48:04this beautiful take off, the grab, look at the amplitude. That is as

4:48:04 > 4:48:11big as we have seen anyone go. Heat one or two. 94.25. So it is a

4:48:11 > 4:48:18different contest, you can't compare it, but it's same set of ups and it

4:48:18 > 4:48:26is way bigger than Max Parrot's score from heat one. So Toutant. The

4:48:26 > 4:48:30regular rider from Quebec, French Canadian, dropping in switch.

4:48:30 > 4:48:42Switch frontside spin coming up. Switch frontside double cork 1620.

4:48:42 > 4:48:48Ladies and gentlemen, sit down, strap yourselves in, calling it.

4:48:48 > 4:48:57Yes, second place. He makes it look easy.

4:48:57 > 4:49:09So next rider in Boesiger.

4:49:14 > 4:49:20Ooh! The cameraman got a bit confused there.

4:49:20 > 4:49:24Look how much it means to him. He is absolutely over the moon with that

4:49:24 > 4:49:31one. Finally, the Swiss getting a little bit of luck. Backside 1620

4:49:31 > 4:49:36triple cork, keeping his hands up through.

4:49:36 > 4:49:50Let's just see oh no, it does go down. 96! Wow. Wow. Wow.

4:49:51 > 4:49:57down. 96! Wow. Wow. Wow.Next in Carlos Garcia Knight. 88.75. He is

4:49:57 > 4:50:04in fifth place, landed backside, was it switch backside or backside 16.

4:50:04 > 4:50:08Switch backside 16.To start, so he is dropping in forwards this time.

4:50:08 > 4:50:13Oh no. Signposting that he is going switch with a 180 at the top. He is

4:50:13 > 4:50:20going to clean this up. And he has.

4:50:20 > 4:50:24I don't think it was possible to clean it up.Look at the style as

4:50:24 > 4:50:31well.Really nice.Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. It's as big

4:50:31 > 4:50:41and as clean as you will see a 1620 today.97.5. Say hello to first

4:50:41 > 4:50:49place Carlos Garcia Knight.That is ludicrous!Wow. Next in Mark

4:50:49 > 4:50:56McMorris. Currently sat in fifth place, just ahead of Billy Morgan.

4:50:56 > 4:51:04We saw that lot, it is not somewhere he is used to being sat. Mark

4:51:04 > 4:51:12McMorris is podium material. Dropping in switch.

4:51:12 > 4:51:19Again, sharp intake of breath from the commentary booth. He has gone

4:51:19 > 4:51:23switch backside, arguably the hardest drengion to spin in an he

4:51:23 > 4:51:30has, he is fighting fire with fire. 95.75.So that switch backside

4:51:30 > 4:51:37working with the judges. They like it.

4:51:37 > 4:51:47Now the British fans. Getting ready for this man. Billy Morgan. Back in

4:51:47 > 4:51:532015, he landed the Quad cork. This jump not big enough for it at the

4:51:53 > 4:51:59moment. Supposedly. Frontside triple coming up. No backside again.

4:51:59 > 4:52:06Massive. Oh my goodness. It is better. It's better. It's better.Oh

4:52:06 > 4:52:12Billy! That was beautiful. Oh unwrap it. Let us look at whole

4:52:12 > 4:52:16thing. Look how he gets hold of it and

4:52:16 > 4:52:22bending the board there.Maybe he lot go a fraction early but as far

4:52:22 > 4:52:30as putting the landing down, you couldn't land a Boeing on auto pilot

4:52:30 > 4:52:37better than that.90.5. Look at his face. Billy Morgan clings to that

4:52:37 > 4:52:43sixth place.Tyler Nicholson. The pressure is on.

4:52:43 > 4:52:47He was just a quarter of a point behind Billy Morgan with his first

4:52:47 > 4:52:58jump. Can he up it now? So switch. There is one, two, three, four.

4:52:58 > 4:53:06Switch 1440. Oh, my goodness, I do not want to look.It was the

4:53:06 > 4:53:12nosegrab.It is a carbon copy, the landing is really really good. It is

4:53:12 > 4:53:20going to be so close, this is going to be incredibly close. He's praying

4:53:20 > 4:53:28to the snowboarding judging gods. What's your head say Ed?I don't

4:53:28 > 4:53:34know.You can't speak.I really don't know. This is awful. I think

4:53:34 > 4:53:41Billy might just have it. Billy was perfect. And it was bigful Billy's

4:53:41 > 4:53:48was big, that was...Be honest with yourself. Cab fronts side spin

4:53:48 > 4:53:53harder than backside triple.Billy is upside down. Both had nosegrabs,

4:53:53 > 4:54:01I don't know what to say. 98 -- 89.25. Billy Morgan is one ride area

4:54:01 > 4:54:07Friday the finals. Nicholson thought he had it. There is one man to drop

4:54:07 > 4:54:12who can deny Billy a place in the finals on Saturday. He is one of the

4:54:12 > 4:54:18most decorated men in snowboarding. Granted, he is in the sun sets of

4:54:18 > 4:54:23his years as a professional snowboard other, but make no mistake

4:54:23 > 4:54:28about it. Piiroinen is a Jedi when it comes to freestyle snowboarding.

4:54:28 > 4:54:33Too much tension to get the knitting out now from the Finnish coach. She

4:54:33 > 4:54:38is watching very carefully. So here it go, dropping in switch. That is

4:54:38 > 4:54:44fakie to you and me.Massive. Oh, goodness. Why would he do that

4:54:44 > 4:54:54to us?Oh, switch 1440. Oh goodness. Stylish. It is really stylish. Works

4:54:54 > 4:55:00hard on the last rotation.The landing is a bit off.Look at us

4:55:00 > 4:55:07trying to find an excuse.I know!I do feel bad trying to pick him apart

4:55:07 > 4:55:12here, but it's sixth place at stake. I'm not sure thaw will be enough.

4:55:12 > 4:55:23But you never ever know. 87.25. So Piiroinen in 8th place. Carlos

4:55:23 > 4:55:29Garcia Knight blazing his way to the top of second qualification heat.

4:55:29 > 4:55:37Boesiger in second. Billy Morgan in sixth. You are in an Olympic big air

4:55:37 > 4:55:42final.How does that feel?It is pretty rapid. I don't want to get

4:55:42 > 4:55:47too excited yet. I have to keep it under wraps. After seeing the

4:55:47 > 4:55:53standard I didn't expect to get in. Because it was just 16s. And some of

4:55:53 > 4:55:57them bumped me, but I needed to get squeeze the points out of that

4:55:57 > 4:56:01trick. It worked. Happy days.Well done, look forward to watching you

4:56:01 > 4:56:07in the finals.Thank you very much. We love you Billy. We are all in his

4:56:07 > 4:56:12corner. That will be 1am Saturday morning your time. That ramp is 49

4:56:12 > 4:56:16metres high with a maximum angle of 40 grows.ment is it your thing?

4:56:16 > 4:56:24Absolutely not.It is like the start gate in that sort of angle. I don't

4:56:24 > 4:56:28knowYou are not going that fast. Not with a board strapped to you. We

4:56:28 > 4:56:32are excited about tomorrow because it is the turn of the rocket, not

4:56:32 > 4:56:38that one, it is the rocket Dave Riding, in the men's slalom. Express

4:56:38 > 4:56:44your excisement levels and our hopes for him?I am trying to suppress my

4:56:44 > 4:56:49excitement levels. It is something he has been looking forward to, the

4:56:49 > 4:56:52whole of alpine winter sports has been looking forward to it. Let us

4:56:52 > 4:56:58see what he has to offer when he pushes out the start gate.Six top

4:56:58 > 4:57:02tens including a second last year, he is the real deal.He is, he has

4:57:02 > 4:57:06the skills to mix it with the best in the world and has been for the

4:57:06 > 4:57:10last couple of season, it is whether he can put it down in two runs with

4:57:10 > 4:57:16all the pressure that will be the hardest parts for him tomorrow. You

4:57:16 > 4:57:19will see it overnight. Shall we have a quick look at the medal table. Why

4:57:19 > 4:57:24not? Norway have had a fantastic day. They are one shy of matching

4:57:24 > 4:57:31the all time record of 14 golds in one game, that was set by Canada in

4:57:31 > 4:57:37their home games in 200010678913 is already Norway's best in a single

4:57:37 > 4:57:42games, so 24 hours in one hour tairksd and that is highlights in

4:57:42 > 4:57:45today at the games, at 7pm with Claire and so much to look forward

4:57:45 > 4:57:50to on day 13. There is a big night for Great Britain's men. Kyle

4:57:50 > 4:57:54Smith's Durhaming rink need to beat the Swiss to be in the semifinals,

4:57:54 > 4:57:59Eve Muirhead already there. Dave the rocket Riding in the men's slalom

4:57:59 > 4:58:04start gate. We have Mikaela Shifrin expected to go and medal again, in

4:58:04 > 4:58:10the combined. So, a lot to look forward to, we are

4:58:10 > 4:58:15all off to find Ed a snowboard so we can convince him to go into the big

4:58:15 > 4:58:18air, in Beijing, in 2022. You have done everything else. You might as

4:58:18 > 4:58:23well give it a go. Thanks for your company today, we will catch you

4:58:23 > 4:58:28tomorrow. Tomorrow. Bye for now. Great Britain are getting Bert as

4:58:28 > 4:58:34the competition goes on. She puts it down when it counts.

4:58:34 > 4:58:42We want to see these big tricks that we know these guys can do.

4:58:42 > 4:58:51Team USA versus team Canada.Mikaela Shifrin goes for the double.

4:58:51 > 4:58:55What a ski from Dave Riding.
