0:00:40 > 0:00:47Good morning from Pyeongchang. They say 13 is unlucky for some, but

0:00:47 > 0:00:52plenty here hopes that it will be lucky for them. Ten medals up for

0:00:52 > 0:01:00grabss today, the most than any other day, and one is the Alpine

0:01:00 > 0:01:06combined. We have had the downhill section of the women's event, it's

0:01:06 > 0:01:10followed by the slalom event, Lindsey Vonn is the downhill

0:01:10 > 0:01:14specialist, she's out in front, not known for her slalom so we'll have

0:01:14 > 0:01:21to see if her her lead is enough to claim a surprise gold or if someone

0:01:21 > 0:01:25can come from behind to claim the title. Let's join our commentators.

0:01:29 > 0:01:36Good afternoon, welcome back. The first skier on the course was the

0:01:36 > 0:01:43Bosnian who failed to complete but it's now down to Barbara Kantorova.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47She's got to make the last few towns and she will move into gold medal

0:01:47 > 0:01:55position in the Alpine combined which she does, so that's our

0:01:55 > 0:02:03leader. They've had a downhill run this will led by Lindsey Vonn,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Ragnhild Mowinckel, who was in silver medal position in the

0:02:05 > 0:02:14downhill proper yesterday, then Michelle Gisin, then Ramona

0:02:14 > 0:02:18Siebenhofer, Marusa Ferk and Mikaela Shiffrin is sixth. With her slalom

0:02:18 > 0:02:27is Gilles, she is favourite. -- her slalom skills. We only have 22 out

0:02:27 > 0:02:34of the 30 competing, they are going in reverse order. Only 22 finished

0:02:34 > 0:02:38after the downhill. The next is Katerina Paulathova from the Czech

0:02:38 > 0:02:50Republic. She's in front by .63, that the time from the downhill

0:02:50 > 0:03:01added to the slalom score so far. Giving her an advantage. Better

0:03:01 > 0:03:16slalom skiers include petulant over, while the -- Petra Vlhova, Wendy

0:03:16 > 0:03:20Holdener, and Michelle Gisin. Lindsey Vonn has won a World Cup

0:03:20 > 0:03:24slalom in her career and pride to the Olympics, there was a World Cup

0:03:24 > 0:03:29event where she finished fourth, so she's not outside of Gold medal

0:03:29 > 0:03:36opportunity. But she will need a solid second run. Next up, Maryna

0:03:36 > 0:03:41Gasienica-Daniel from Poland. 19th position in the downhill and she

0:03:41 > 0:03:49brings with her and advantage but she has doubled. She is one of the

0:03:49 > 0:03:58better slalom skiers. Absolutely charging through this second run.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02Not the most demanding style, not as technically demanding as the

0:04:02 > 0:04:07individual classic slalom track where the men raised this morning at

0:04:07 > 0:04:21Yongpyong, and where the women race to the slalom double. Frieda Hanns.

0:04:21 > 0:04:31Polish skier in first, by nearly two seconds. We start to see some of the

0:04:31 > 0:04:37slalom specialists on display. The skis they use for the downhill this

0:04:37 > 0:04:42morning, two metres ten. The skis they now use for the slalom are one

0:04:42 > 0:04:50metre 57. A huge difference.

0:04:50 > 0:04:51metre 57. A huge difference. So, Maryna Gasienica-Daniel leads. Next

0:04:51 > 0:04:59up, Alex Mario Mola -- Alice Merryweather, the first of three

0:04:59 > 0:05:02Americans in this Alpine combined. She's a good all-rounder with good

0:05:02 > 0:05:17slalom skills, honed as a junior. She is racking up Goodspeed here. I

0:05:17 > 0:05:19rather old school slalom technique, not a regular on the World Cup

0:05:19 > 0:05:28slalom tour. But she's got the skills required and the towns of the

0:05:28 > 0:05:38Green Knight. Her lead is reducing, -- she retains the green light. She

0:05:38 > 0:05:48has got it. One of three Americans involved this afternoon here. Alice

0:05:48 > 0:05:57Merryweather into gold medal position. Maryna Gasienica-Daniel

0:05:57 > 0:06:08into silver, Katerina Paulathova bronze. 17 still to ski.

0:06:09 > 0:06:15Big smile on the face of Alice Merryweather. Now one of the regular

0:06:15 > 0:06:24combined athletes, the news fire

0:06:24 > 0:06:26combined athletes, the news fire -- Denise Feierabend. She knows her way

0:06:26 > 0:06:34through slalom track. She has added to the advantage significantly. Not

0:06:34 > 0:06:41the most tricky slalom set that the Slovenian coach has laid out here.

0:06:41 > 0:06:48Designed to allow the downhill skiers, the specialist in the speed

0:06:48 > 0:06:51event to have an opportunity. Feierabend is thriving on this

0:06:51 > 0:06:57track, two seconds in front. She has smashed it. Nearly three seconds

0:06:57 > 0:07:05quicker.

0:07:05 > 0:07:12quicker. So Denise Feierabend moving up the ranking, 17th after downhill.

0:07:12 > 0:07:192.96 seconds in front now. Looking down the list, Denise Feierabend

0:07:19 > 0:07:23will quite possibly finish in the top six in today's competition. Good

0:07:23 > 0:07:33slalom skis on display here, good skills.

0:07:33 > 0:07:41skills. Nevena Ignjatovic from Serbia next to go. Her lead over

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Feierabend after the downhill is slight, just 16 hundredths of a

0:07:44 > 0:07:52second. So Feierabend in gold for Switzerland, Merriweather in silver

0:07:52 > 0:07:58for the USA.

0:07:58 > 0:08:03for the USA. Ignjatovic has lost touch with the leaders. Not enough

0:08:03 > 0:08:08terrain left on the track to claw her way back into contention. She

0:08:08 > 0:08:19could end up being a second and a half off the pace. No change in the

0:08:19 > 0:08:25leaders editions, she has gone into second. Denise Feierabend staying in

0:08:25 > 0:08:34top spot. Alice Merryweather now into third.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37into third. Ana Bucik will be next ago and she's got a serious chance

0:08:37 > 0:08:43of pushing for medal today but she needs something super quick. The

0:08:43 > 0:08:47second run has been set by her coach, there are two Slovenians

0:08:47 > 0:08:54still involved, Bucik who is next and Marusa Ferk, fifth after the

0:08:54 > 0:09:02downhill. Pinch-macro finished fifth after the world champ Richard Larman

0:09:02 > 0:09:05-- Ana Bucik finished fifth after the World Championship slalom last

0:09:05 > 0:09:08year.

0:09:14 > 0:09:18What has changed is an improvement in visibility today. The sun has

0:09:18 > 0:09:23come out, it was a little overcast, the floodlights are on, aiding the

0:09:23 > 0:09:27athletes with their vision on this track. Now Bucik surprisingly

0:09:27 > 0:09:33trails. Pretty soft on this part of the mountain, the course is eroding

0:09:33 > 0:09:44quickly. A bit of a rut forming. Bucik into silver medal position.

0:09:44 > 0:09:51The Slovenian fans deliberately dressed in mountain costumes. They

0:09:51 > 0:09:55still have Marusa Ferk to come at the moment. At the moment they have

0:09:55 > 0:10:02Ana Bucik in silver spot. Denise Feierabend still leads the way and

0:10:02 > 0:10:10moves steadily up the standing.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14Lindsey Vonn is at the top of the course, doesn't often race slalom,

0:10:14 > 0:10:22watching the race unfold on the monitor.Next to ski will be Marta

0:10:22 > 0:10:30Bassino. She has good recent form in Alpine combined events. Finished

0:10:30 > 0:10:35fifth in the Olympic giant slalom, her best discipline. But no slouch

0:10:35 > 0:10:45in slalom as you can see. Fiery start for Marta Bassino, just 21

0:10:45 > 0:10:51years old. Potentially the best of the Italian GS skiers in the next

0:10:51 > 0:10:59season or two or three. Her lead has been reduced now. She needs to let

0:10:59 > 0:11:06them run as she powers towards the finish line. The time to beat

0:11:06 > 0:11:11belongs to Denise Feierabend. She's missed it. Marta Bassino into silver

0:11:11 > 0:11:19medal spot for the moment. Another one has come and gone. Denise

0:11:19 > 0:11:24Feierabend has now watched three try and three fail to remove her from

0:11:24 > 0:11:33gold-medal position. The next skier will probably have no -- more luck

0:11:33 > 0:11:37if she stays on her feet, one of the best slalom skiers in the world,

0:11:37 > 0:11:43Petra Vlhova. She's had a disappointing games in the

0:11:43 > 0:11:49individual disciplines where she was expected to thrive but only managed

0:11:49 > 0:11:54to finish 13th in her specialist discipline of the slalom. 13th in

0:11:54 > 0:11:59giant slalom as well. She is a World Cup winner this season. Twice she

0:11:59 > 0:12:08has a World Cup slalom wins, and she also skied into third position in

0:12:08 > 0:12:13the Stockholm parallel slalom. She's the second ranked slalom skier of

0:12:13 > 0:12:20the season behind Mikaela Shiffrin and that's a proud as she racks up

0:12:20 > 0:12:25and advantage here over Denise Feierabend whose leadership of this

0:12:25 > 0:12:29Olympic Alpine combined is about to end. Nearly a full second. She was

0:12:29 > 0:12:35expecting that, she

0:12:36 > 0:12:41expecting that, she nos Vlhova's form in slalom. There was a big

0:12:41 > 0:12:50mistake and he put the brakes on, apart from that it was pretty clean.

0:12:50 > 0:12:57So Vlhova leads,

0:12:59 > 0:13:05So Vlhova leads, Feierabend second, Bassino said, but the fastest 12

0:13:05 > 0:13:12have not skied yet. Next Federica Brignone, who does ski slalom but

0:13:12 > 0:13:20she is by no means the best. Already Olympic

0:13:20 > 0:13:22she is by no means the best. Already medallist in the Olympics games, won

0:13:22 > 0:13:29bronze in the giant slalom. Her advantage has gone deep into the red

0:13:29 > 0:13:37now. Her mum was a great slalom skier, a World Cup winner in slalom.

0:13:37 > 0:13:45She won a four slaloms at the end of the 70s and into the 80s. She's come

0:13:45 > 0:13:51into second position. Silver medal spot. Vlhova stays in the leader's

0:13:51 > 0:13:57box.

0:13:57 > 0:14:01box. Vlhova in gold, Brignone in silver, Feierabend pushed down to

0:14:01 > 0:14:06bronze. Still to come, Wendy Holdener, one of the best slalom

0:14:06 > 0:14:12skiers, Mikaela Shiffrin, the best slalom skier. Michelle Gisin could

0:14:12 > 0:14:18be on the medal podium. Third quickest after the downhill. She

0:14:18 > 0:14:23will be followed out of the start by Ragnhild Mowinckel, twice a silver

0:14:23 > 0:14:27medallist, and Lindsey Vonn who won bronze in the downhill yesterday and

0:14:27 > 0:14:30who has won slalom races in her career but not for long time. Now,

0:14:30 > 0:14:39Laura Gauche. 11 after the first run. That was the downhill this

0:14:39 > 0:14:49morning. Need some slalom form now. Not bad, all of the races train

0:14:49 > 0:14:58slalom as juniors, whether they race regularly as seniors, they have all

0:14:58 > 0:15:04got experience home in sports clubs. That's recruit honed in sports

0:15:04 > 0:15:10clubs. Getting a bit clunky as she moves from flat to sleep. The

0:15:10 > 0:15:13terrain was her own doing, she has lost her chance to lead this

0:15:13 > 0:15:21competition. Gone into six out of the medals.

0:15:24 > 0:15:31Otten still to come, and prepare for fireworks because Wendy Holdener is

0:15:31 > 0:15:34one of the best, and she will be next.

0:15:40 > 0:15:48The Swiss have had a great day so far on the mend's

0:15:52 > 0:16:01far on the mend's slalom, getting a medal. Wendy Holdener is next to go.

0:16:01 > 0:16:08She is in good shape after the downhill leg. In tenth position.

0:16:08 > 0:16:16She's more at home on the short slalom.

0:16:17 > 0:16:21slalom. Maybe a little too much attack at the top. The current

0:16:21 > 0:16:29leader, Vlhova, and Wendy Holdener have done battle many times. Started

0:16:29 > 0:16:36with a lead of half a second over Vlhova. Now she's more than 1.5

0:16:36 > 0:16:43seconds in front!

0:16:47 > 0:17:01She leads, into gold medal position. Will that bring her a medal?

0:17:01 > 0:17:03Will that bring her a medal? Silver in the slalom, and she's in gold at

0:17:03 > 0:17:10the moment for the combined. The next two, three, unlikely to trouble

0:17:10 > 0:17:20her lead.

0:17:35 > 0:17:40Paris St Miller Dolly next.

0:17:47 > 0:17:58-- Romane Miradoli. Not enough speed and direction.

0:17:58 > 0:18:08Easy to spot the established slalom racers from the occasional ones.

0:18:08 > 0:18:17Romane Miradoli is very occasional.

0:18:20 > 0:18:27Vlhova in silver, Wendy Holdener in gold. Valerie Grenier is next.

0:18:40 > 0:18:50She is unlikely to trouble Wendy Holdener's lead. But let us see.

0:18:50 > 0:18:56Mikaela Shiffrin has arrived at the top. She has her headphones and, as

0:18:56 > 0:19:15usual. Valerie Grenier is eighth after the downhill this morning.

0:19:15 > 0:19:19after the downhill this morning. She will be wishing she gave a similar

0:19:19 > 0:19:23performance on downhill race day yesterday. It has been a busy

0:19:23 > 0:19:26schedule for the women overhear.

0:19:33 > 0:19:40She will not be troubling the current, gold, silver and bronze

0:19:40 > 0:19:52medals. She is! She has gone into bronze.

0:19:52 > 0:20:08bronze. She has moved Federica Brgnone from bronze.

0:20:15 > 0:20:26-- Federica Brignone down to fourth position.

0:20:26 > 0:20:35position. Still to come, Ricarda Haaser, Mikaela

0:20:35 > 0:20:45Haaser, Mikaela Shiffrin...

0:20:53 > 0:20:59The top three now, Valerie Grenier, the Canadian. A good downhill

0:20:59 > 0:21:06performance this morning, eighth quickest. Petra Vlhova. Not so

0:21:06 > 0:21:09strong in downhill, but with a mighty slalom run, she's holding

0:21:09 > 0:21:16onto silver at the moment. Wendy Holdener, tenth quickest this

0:21:16 > 0:21:27morning, is in gold medal position at the moment.

0:21:37 > 0:21:42Two minutes 22.34 seconds, that is the combined times added to the

0:21:42 > 0:21:45downhill.

0:21:59 > 0:22:08Ricarda Haaser, then Mikaela Shiffrin.

0:22:08 > 0:22:14Shiffrin. Mikaela Shiffrin was sixth quickest in the downhill.

0:22:30 > 0:22:41Ricarda Haaser is next. She has just had the 30 seconds call. She's years

0:22:41 > 0:22:49old. She finished ninth in the championship combined last February.

0:22:49 > 0:22:56-- she is 24 years old. Seventh after the downhill this morning.

0:23:09 > 0:23:16I don't think our leaders enough to get past Wendy Holdener. Can she

0:23:16 > 0:23:22push for a provisional medal place? That has gone, she is half a second

0:23:22 > 0:23:27down, she does not have the slalom skills of Wendy Holdener.

0:23:37 > 0:23:461.10 between gold and bronze medal positions.

0:23:53 > 0:24:00She's into ninth position. 2.5 seconds almost off the pace of Wendy

0:24:00 > 0:24:03Holdener. Now it will get serious, and Wendy Holdener knows she has a

0:24:03 > 0:24:10serious threat to her lead in this, Mikaela Shiffrin, who is not only

0:24:10 > 0:24:13are more successful slalom skier, she also has a quicker time after

0:24:13 > 0:24:22the downhill than Wendy Holdener, so she starts with an advantage.

0:24:38 > 0:24:46She finished outside the medals in the slalom. She has been on this

0:24:46 > 0:24:58course, training. Her lead is more or less maintained.

0:25:01 > 0:25:06She cannot afford any more mistakes because Wendy Holdener was quick at

0:25:06 > 0:25:07the bottom.

0:25:16 > 0:25:21She is faster by 0.47 seconds! Lightning finish from Mikaela

0:25:21 > 0:25:28Shiffrin. She leads the way. Five competitors to come. Will that be

0:25:28 > 0:25:31good enough?

0:25:38 > 0:25:45Wendy Holdener has gone into silver. And Vlhova into bronze, top slalom

0:25:45 > 0:25:50skiers in the world leading the competition with one hand on the

0:25:50 > 0:25:55medals.

0:25:58 > 0:26:04medals. Next we have Ramona Siebenhofer.

0:26:05 > 0:26:10Siebenhofer. Heartbreak for a Wendy Holdener as she is moved from gold

0:26:10 > 0:26:11medal position.

0:26:18 > 0:26:31Michelle Gisin, whose next.

0:26:49 > 0:26:58Was that straddle? We may need to check. Sometimes these things happen

0:26:58 > 0:27:03so quickly. She has decided she will take chances, and we will get a look

0:27:03 > 0:27:19the replay. Either way she will be out of the medal positions, I think.

0:27:19 > 0:27:30Marusa Ferk. The Slovenian team is yet to get a medal.

0:27:31 > 0:27:39yet to get a medal. Yes, it was a struggle, she has disqualified. --

0:27:39 > 0:27:45straddle. The skis go either side of the control gate, which is instant

0:27:45 > 0:27:48disqualification. She should really have stopped, but she was maybe

0:27:48 > 0:27:59hoping that they had gone the right side. Maria Shifrin in gold position

0:27:59 > 0:28:18at the moment, then Wendy Holdener Ben Petrov bid -- then Petra Vlhova.

0:28:18 > 0:28:24Ramona Siebenhofer had a two second lead over Maria Shifrin, but that

0:28:24 > 0:28:35will have already just about gone. Slalom is not a happy place for her.

0:28:35 > 0:28:39-- lead over Mikaela Shiffrin. She is deeper into the red zone. Can she

0:28:39 > 0:28:52finish quickly enough to get a medal? Not fast enough, she's 50.

0:28:52 > 0:29:00Vlhova still and bronze position. Wendy Holdener in silver, and

0:29:00 > 0:29:07Mikaela Shiffrin leads the way. Just three competitors to come. Michelle

0:29:07 > 0:29:12Gisin, Ragnhild Mowinckel and then Lindsey Vonn. And Lindsey Vonn

0:29:12 > 0:29:20finish with the gold in the Alpine combined? -- can she finish?

0:29:28 > 0:29:34MUSIC

0:29:34 > 0:29:44Vlhova and Wendy Holdener and Mikaela Shiffrin in discussions.

0:29:44 > 0:29:51Michelle Gisin is 1.2 seconds ahead of Wendy

0:29:51 > 0:29:56of Wendy -- Mikaela Shiffrin. She finished behind Wendy Holdener at

0:29:56 > 0:30:04the World Championships.

0:30:04 > 0:30:08She is a good all-rounder, occasional slalom skier. She has had

0:30:08 > 0:30:18a top ten in slalom in Vermont at the start of the campaign.

0:30:18 > 0:30:26the start of the campaign. Almost a full second in-hand! She is in gold

0:30:26 > 0:30:32position! She leads the Alpine combined! The Swiss fans are

0:30:32 > 0:30:40delirious. She has pushed Mikaela Shiffrin to silver. Vlhova is out of

0:30:40 > 0:30:45the medals. That may be enough to give Michelle Gisin the Olympic

0:30:45 > 0:30:50title, her sister was the Olympic champion in downhill four years ago.

0:30:50 > 0:30:55She had to share the title with the Slovenian. Right now, it is Michelle

0:30:55 > 0:31:02Gisin's turn to shine. A stunning run.

0:31:02 > 0:31:09She leads the way with just two less accomplished slalom skiers to come.

0:31:09 > 0:31:15Ragnhild Mowinckel will be next, and then it will be the turn of the

0:31:15 > 0:31:19great Lindsey Vonn. Last to ski in what could well be her last Olympic

0:31:19 > 0:31:32race. It's Gisin's gold right now, Shiffrin

0:31:32 > 0:31:35Shiffrin in silver,

0:31:35 > 0:31:41Shiffrin in Holdener holding on for bronze.

0:31:41 > 0:31:46bronze. Shiffrin in silver. We're reaching the climax of the combined

0:31:46 > 0:31:53events here. Ragnhild Mowinckel has had an outstanding Winter Olympic

0:31:53 > 0:31:57Games, two silver medals, silver medallist in the giant slalom and

0:31:57 > 0:32:02yesterday's downhill. Behind Sofia Goggia. Doesn't regularly race

0:32:02 > 0:32:09slalom. She scored top tens this season in downhill, super-g and

0:32:09 > 0:32:13giant slalom, never to be seen in slalom. But of course she's had the

0:32:13 > 0:32:22quicker downhill run than Michelle Gisin. I think she's beyond gold

0:32:22 > 0:32:29medal, and to deny Shiffrin silver medal. Her target remains Wendy

0:32:29 > 0:32:37Holdener in bronze medal place. Is it fast enough?

0:32:38 > 0:32:43it fast enough? Its fourth, for Ragnhild Mowinckel. No change in

0:32:43 > 0:32:54amongst the medals. And with just one to come, it now means that

0:32:54 > 0:33:01Shiffrin and Gisin are guaranteed medals. Shiffrin can finish no worse

0:33:01 > 0:33:05than bronze, Gisin no worse than silver. The distribution of medals

0:33:05 > 0:33:14is now all down to Lindsey Vonn. She will be the last skier here.

0:33:15 > 0:33:17will be the last skier here. Wendy Holdener is in bronze medal place

0:33:17 > 0:33:26right now. Mowinckel, two silvers but only fourth today. Last to ski,

0:33:26 > 0:33:34Lindsey Vonn. Did race a combined just before the Winter Olympic Games

0:33:34 > 0:33:41where she placed fourth. She has won a World Cup slalom, just one of her

0:33:41 > 0:33:4581 World Cup victories have come in slalom competition but it was a long

0:33:45 > 0:33:50time ago. It's getting cold, the snow is getting thicker, as Vonn

0:33:50 > 0:33:57prepares to ski at the Pyeongchang Olympics for the last time. Her

0:33:57 > 0:34:04advantage after the downhill is .7 seven. Havret outing on the short

0:34:04 > 0:34:09slalom skis for Lindsey Vonn, but she's got so much experience. If she

0:34:09 > 0:34:14can find her way through the steep part of the course, she could be in

0:34:14 > 0:34:21contention but she grinds to a halt which means that Michelle Gisin it

0:34:21 > 0:34:26is the Olympic champion, four years after her older sister Dominique one

0:34:26 > 0:34:30downhill gold, Michelle will be going home with an Olympic gold

0:34:30 > 0:34:36medal. Shiffrin at the silver to the call she won in giant slalom, and

0:34:36 > 0:34:43Wendy Holdener will take the bronze medal in the Alpine combined.

0:34:43 > 0:34:48Holdener's second medal of the games. The combined reaches a

0:34:48 > 0:34:54conclusion with a disappointing early finish for Lindsey Vonn who

0:34:54 > 0:34:59shrugs her shoulders and says, I'm not a regular slalom skier. I don't

0:34:59 > 0:35:03think anyone seriously expected her to deny Michelle Gisin the gold,

0:35:03 > 0:35:07maybe an outside chance of getting another bronze the back up the

0:35:07 > 0:35:13bronze she got in the downhill yesterday. Vonn is there to

0:35:13 > 0:35:19congratulate today's medallists. The champion in the Alpine combined is

0:35:19 > 0:35:21Switzerland's Michelle Gisin, Switzerland's first Alpine gold of

0:35:21 > 0:35:31the games. STUDIO: Michelle Gisin with the gold

0:35:31 > 0:35:34medal, her sister Dominique won gold in the downhill in Sochi four years

0:35:34 > 0:35:41ago so she brings a second Olympic gold couple into the family. Mikaela

0:35:41 > 0:35:47Shiffrin picked up her second medal in Pyeongchang, a third winter

0:35:47 > 0:35:53Olympic medal of her career. It's one of ten gold medals that can be

0:35:53 > 0:35:56won today. There are more gold medals on offer today than any other

0:35:56 > 0:36:01day at the Winter Olympics and there is another one up for grabs in the

0:36:01 > 0:36:06women's ice hockey. The USA and Canada are fierce rivals in this

0:36:06 > 0:36:12sport. They have contested four of the previous five finals here in the

0:36:12 > 0:36:16Winter Olympics. They are on ice currently. Canada have bragging

0:36:16 > 0:36:27rights in recent history, they have won the last four gold medals on

0:36:27 > 0:36:32history but that match has now gone into overtime. We are going to join

0:36:32 > 0:36:39it life. Let's join our commentators, it is golden puck.

0:36:42 > 0:36:47What a time it is, sudden death overtime in women's hockey Olympics

0:36:47 > 0:36:57vinyl, it doesn't get more exciting. USA 11-0, Russian crew were leading

0:36:57 > 0:37:06-- the USA were leading 1-0, then Canada got two goals and

0:37:07 > 0:37:13Canada got two goals and then they got another one back. The four-time

0:37:13 > 0:37:15defending champions against the four-time Olympic champions, Canada

0:37:15 > 0:37:24looking for a fifth in a row. The US are in the dark blue jerseys. The

0:37:24 > 0:37:35Maple Leafs proudly white shirts. Could this be a chance? Blocked by

0:37:35 > 0:37:46Brandt. A long shift to start this game. Pushed back towards the blue

0:37:46 > 0:37:52line, passed everybody. Until Shannon Szabados collect. Now the

0:37:52 > 0:37:58Canadians will try and come in.

0:37:59 > 0:38:01Canadians will try and come in. It's been an incredible game so far,

0:38:01 > 0:38:11played in a great atmosphere. The USA, deflected wide.

0:38:14 > 0:38:20USA, deflected wide. Canada looking to collect possession.

0:38:27 > 0:38:32You can barely hear yourself think. A wonderful atmosphere. Canada,

0:38:32 > 0:38:36chance.

0:38:38 > 0:38:46chance. The chanting is on both sides. It goes wide. And now it goes

0:38:46 > 0:38:52back the other way.

0:38:52 > 0:38:58back the other way. Two minutes 20 seconds of sudden deaths over time,

0:38:58 > 0:39:04it is golden goal, literally, golden goal territory. The next goal wins.

0:39:04 > 0:39:11Look at the chance from

0:39:14 > 0:39:20Look at the chance from Brianne Jenner, she looked like she had

0:39:20 > 0:39:25Szabados beaten but she couldn't hit the net.So much space on the ice,

0:39:25 > 0:39:34for them to work in.

0:39:34 > 0:39:39for them to work in. Move it is the message from the officials, and the

0:39:39 > 0:39:45Americans do that. Can the Canadians get there? It was Johnston. Rooney

0:39:45 > 0:39:54makes a save. The USA circle. How much of this is about heart and

0:39:54 > 0:40:01desire? How much of this is the experience of being there before?

0:40:01 > 0:40:06Both teams have. And how much is bearing down on the chance you are

0:40:06 > 0:40:18going to get?Nearly home! Just wide, Cameranesi! Outstanding hand I

0:40:18 > 0:40:20coordination.

0:40:30 > 0:40:38Cameranesi has offered real bite the American line-up.

0:40:39 > 0:40:51Canada too casual.Meaghan Mikkelson has been struggling, she is just

0:40:51 > 0:40:55moving a little too slowly, the Canadian veteran.

0:40:59 > 0:41:06Feels like the US are just in control right now. They're the ones

0:41:06 > 0:41:14that are having the opportunities. They have the jump in their step.

0:41:17 > 0:41:24Poulin has scored, in her career, five Olympic medals. Szabados hangs

0:41:24 > 0:41:37on! The shot into the soul that from Lamoureux. -- shoulder from

0:41:37 > 0:41:42Lamoureux.We talk about managing the puck, Canada very low chill on

0:41:42 > 0:41:52here as they are caught off ice. -- very nonchalant, from Canada.

0:41:52 > 0:41:55Cameranesi deflects it, almost similar to the first goal from

0:41:55 > 0:41:58Canada. The Canadians have to be careful, they are putting their

0:41:58 > 0:42:00defence after

0:42:00 > 0:42:04careful, they are putting their defence up a little bit. The US are

0:42:04 > 0:42:09heavily outshooting the Canadians right now.It is the quality shots

0:42:09 > 0:42:16that will count.

0:42:33 > 0:42:38Four on four is all about puck possession. He wants to keep your

0:42:38 > 0:42:44puck on your stick, -- you want to keep your puck on your stick, you

0:42:44 > 0:42:51want to not go to the other end. Skating is important but control of

0:42:51 > 0:42:59the puck is so important.

0:43:00 > 0:43:03Natalie Spooner, her family held from just outside Manchester. Very

0:43:03 > 0:43:14proud of that fact. I'm sure they're very proud of her right now.

0:43:15 > 0:43:24Interesting, Hilary Knight and Amanda Cassell out that together, --

0:43:24 > 0:43:31and Amanda Kessel other together. If we get to the end of 14 minutes, we

0:43:31 > 0:43:38will go to a penalty shoot out but that might be too much for the

0:43:38 > 0:43:46coaching teams to take. The United States have had their share of puck

0:43:46 > 0:43:48possession, they have had opportunity for point-blank shots,

0:43:48 > 0:43:53but as you see in overtime, it comes down to that one opportunity. And

0:43:53 > 0:44:00here is an enormous face-off.

0:44:01 > 0:44:04here is an enormous face-off.Daoust has not taken too many face-offs.

0:44:04 > 0:44:10Going into the game, she was in 84% in limited duty on her face-offs.

0:44:10 > 0:44:16The person to take it then! She's going to get tossed out of the

0:44:16 > 0:44:26circle. One by the Americans, -- it was won by the Americans,

0:44:26 > 0:44:31unsurprisingly. But thankfully for the Canadians it goes out of the

0:44:31 > 0:44:36zone and the US look to bring it forward. Poulin came out onto the

0:44:36 > 0:44:42ice, a coaching change to track and get the face-off win. That's how

0:44:42 > 0:44:47important it was.

0:44:53 > 0:44:56God is to be careful here because if Bellamy turned it up quite -- they

0:44:56 > 0:45:00have got to be careful because if Bellamy turned it up quick, there is

0:45:00 > 0:45:07space at the back.

0:45:17 > 0:45:23She does just enough to slow down the Americans.

0:45:26 > 0:45:34the Americans. Seven minutes gone of overtime.I like this team, they are

0:45:34 > 0:45:40not giving

0:45:41 > 0:45:55not giving possession,...Saved by Maddie Rooney.

0:46:02 > 0:46:10Options were eliminated by cutting to the middle.

0:46:10 > 0:46:17Good defensive play by the Canadians. Given away on the blue

0:46:17 > 0:46:24line, and the Americans came back.

0:46:38 > 0:46:44She cannot watch, at least not easily! It is so hard on the players

0:46:44 > 0:46:48and coaches, but much harder on the family and friends, who have been

0:46:48 > 0:46:52watching their children and helped them go through the process of

0:46:52 > 0:46:59becoming these wonderful world-class athletes. Now they are sitting

0:46:59 > 0:47:05thousands of miles away from home just hoping that their child will

0:47:05 > 0:47:12come with a gold medal.Like you said, some cannot even watch. A

0:47:12 > 0:47:22remarkable atmosphere.

0:47:25 > 0:47:32It has been a great Olympic Games for the Canadians. They have done so

0:47:32 > 0:47:38well across many different sports, but Canada wants this alongside the

0:47:38 > 0:47:48hockey medal.

0:47:48 > 0:47:55hockey medal. You could throw the ice dancing one interact as well.

0:48:01 > 0:48:09The captain, Meghan Duggan, full of energy.

0:48:37 > 0:48:46Really interesting that they are playing

0:48:46 > 0:48:54playing panic, one of the Lamoureux. Canada decided that was the best

0:48:54 > 0:49:01time to go.

0:49:01 > 0:49:10time to go. There was no recognition of the situation by Natalie Spooner.

0:49:20 > 0:49:31The Canadians are putting on the pressure.

0:49:32 > 0:49:37pressure.The women are exhausted. They cannot afford to be out there

0:49:37 > 0:49:50tired.The deflected effort goes into all.

0:49:55 > 0:50:03Maddie Rooney was strong at the short side.

0:50:07 > 0:50:20short side. Hard looking play. Bellamy carries ongoing.

0:50:25 > 0:50:31Bellamy carries ongoing.The whistle was not a bad thing.

0:50:35 > 0:50:40was not a bad thing. The stick went flying, Emily Clark went for it,

0:50:40 > 0:50:49missed out, but really nice play from Bellamy.

0:51:08 > 0:51:16You see the power of Hilary Knight when she lets the shots go.

0:51:18 > 0:51:20when she lets the shots go. You do not want to give her a clear look at

0:51:20 > 0:51:27the net. She recognises what is in front, she knows where the goal is

0:51:27 > 0:51:41at all times, and fires it on.The focus is in the

0:51:41 > 0:51:47focus is in the eyes. Canada have to get back. They look absolutely

0:51:47 > 0:51:52exhausted.

0:52:00 > 0:52:03Canada has just been rotating three sets of/ stop the nightcap to put

0:52:03 > 0:52:13someone else in.

0:52:27 > 0:52:38Fiano penalty, and panic at the side of the net.

0:52:40 > 0:52:44That is where you need to see the Canadians turn it back, if they

0:52:44 > 0:52:51maintain possession they can get a change in.

0:53:06 > 0:53:10Canada do not really have the dynamic defender who can leap into

0:53:10 > 0:53:21the play. And it opened up, she nearly got it. What a save from

0:53:21 > 0:53:31Shannon Szabados.Said at one end can lead to a fence at the other.

0:53:31 > 0:53:42Possession was handed to the Americans, who rein it in.

0:53:42 > 0:53:44Americans, who rein it in. Shannon Szabados flex it away. Approaching

0:53:44 > 0:53:54six minutes to go. There is no splitting them. Gold medal on the

0:53:54 > 0:53:58line.

0:54:05 > 0:54:10Laura Fortino has played the most out of anyone in this game. She's

0:54:10 > 0:54:14exhausted.

0:54:19 > 0:54:29exhausted.It feels like there has not been a whistle for an eternity.

0:54:37 > 0:54:41The USA have done a wonderful job defensively. They have not allowed

0:54:41 > 0:54:51anything, really. Offside will be given.

0:54:52 > 0:54:58given. The US try to move the tin with Hilary Knight. This will be the

0:54:58 > 0:55:05best chance of overtime. What a played from Gigi Marvin, she tries

0:55:05 > 0:55:15to go high blocker. And what a save from Shannon Szabados.Mickelson

0:55:15 > 0:55:20forced the short when it came. For me, the US have been the better

0:55:20 > 0:55:28team.

0:55:41 > 0:55:47Melody ghost wanted a penalty.

0:55:54 > 0:55:56-- Daoust.

0:56:28 > 0:56:36The rebound popped out, I did save. Canada are playing with fire. Laura

0:56:36 > 0:56:42Fortino is exhausted, she has nothing left. The USA recognise

0:56:42 > 0:56:48that, they just want to attack quickly.

0:56:49 > 0:56:58quickly.They have kept possession so well in overtime.

0:57:07 > 0:57:18This is really good from the Americans.

0:57:20 > 0:57:31The rebound! It only got as far as the blue line.

0:57:32 > 0:57:42the blue line. They are exhausted, the Canadians cannot even move.

0:57:42 > 0:57:47the Canadians cannot even move. The US are closing in on a goal that

0:57:47 > 0:57:51would get them the gold medal. Meaghan Mikkelson was trying to tell

0:57:51 > 0:57:55her team-mate to put it the other direction, but instead it went her

0:57:55 > 0:58:02way. What a block. You can get a close-up on her, she has two black

0:58:02 > 0:58:11eyes.And a broken nose by the looks of things.

0:58:20 > 0:58:29She could not force a chance. The crowd are billing. They wanted a

0:58:29 > 0:58:36penalty. That has been an incredible, incredible game of ice

0:58:36 > 0:58:43hockey. The entertainment has been first-class.

0:59:05 > 0:59:18Laura Fortino is absolutely shattered. A penalty.

0:59:18 > 0:59:23shattered. A penalty. Keller looks up to the skies. Canada will have a

0:59:23 > 0:59:34four 13 power play. Time-out?I think so. It is a penalty. But we

0:59:34 > 0:59:41are so deep into overtime.

0:59:41 > 0:59:49are so deep into overtime.Sochi, penalty, power

0:59:49 > 0:59:52penalty, power play, Marie-Philip Poulin.I would give her a bit of a

0:59:52 > 0:59:57break.

1:00:07 > 1:00:16It is almost like she heard you. That I might just give sure players

1:00:16 > 1:00:19are little more time to catch their breath. They know what will be asked

1:00:19 > 1:00:24of them out there. Shannon Szabados gets a pat on the back. This has

1:00:24 > 1:00:30been so intense. Canada went behind in this game at the end of the first

1:00:30 > 1:00:36period. Then they came back to lead 2-1.

1:00:36 > 1:00:41A wonderful takeaway, great save, Maddie Rooney, the goal-tender for

1:00:41 > 1:00:50the Americans, she goes down and scores in overtime, Lamoureux. Now

1:00:50 > 1:00:551.35 remaining in overtime. A power play for Canada. They will finish

1:00:55 > 1:01:04this game on the power play. A bad fall.

1:01:04 > 1:01:08fall.Lacquette has not been on the ice all period so her legs are

1:01:08 > 1:01:16probably a bit concrete. The pass is just too long for Poulin. They do

1:01:16 > 1:01:23not have quality possession as yet, Canada. This could be a real danger.

1:01:23 > 1:01:30It play by Poulin. You've got to get number four off, this is not the

1:01:30 > 1:01:35right call for Laura Schuler, and you like a shot but she cannot keep

1:01:35 > 1:01:43up out there.

1:01:43 > 1:01:56Of the post, I think! Canada nearly when it! They go again, Fortino has

1:01:56 > 1:02:06to control her skates. The shot wide from Rebecca Johnson.

1:02:06 > 1:02:11from Rebecca Johnson. Surely the Canadians are going to get bye out

1:02:11 > 1:02:20there.Only 15 seconds left.-- Canada I want to try and get Poulin

1:02:20 > 1:02:31out there. Eight seconds, no icing. The drama will continue. 70 minutes,

1:02:31 > 1:02:3780 minutes. You cannot split these two teams. It's an Olympic gold

1:02:37 > 1:02:44medal match and now it is over to a shoot out and it comes down to the

1:02:44 > 1:02:48netminding and it comes down to the poise and experience of Shannon

1:02:48 > 1:03:02Szabados, the use of Maddie Rooney. -- the usefulness of Maddie Rooney.

1:03:02 > 1:03:08Its the first time where going to penalty shoot out in a gold medal

1:03:08 > 1:03:19game. This shot deflects off the post. A rebound and it actually hit

1:03:19 > 1:03:24the stick, I think it was the stick of Maddie Rooney. Incredible.

1:03:24 > 1:03:31Elation and then disappointment on the face of Poulin.Look at the

1:03:31 > 1:03:38crowd! The best part is, it's both Americans and Canadians who felt the

1:03:38 > 1:03:43exact same way.Let's go through the shoot out rules. Pretty simple, five

1:03:43 > 1:03:50different shooters. And then if they are still tied after five shooters

1:03:50 > 1:03:57for each team, they then go to sudden death and anybody can go.

1:03:57 > 1:04:02This was the first goal of the game, Hilary Knight on a power play. She

1:04:02 > 1:04:13put the US in front. But then Haley Irwin, near post, beating Rooney for

1:04:13 > 1:04:18the first time. And then chief tormentor, Poulin, what a pass and

1:04:18 > 1:04:22what a finish. Rand goes flying into the net as does the park. Canada in

1:04:22 > 1:04:27control heading towards the medal, but who has an answer? It is

1:04:27 > 1:04:39Lamoureux. One week Lamoureux. -- Monique Lamoureux. A player full of

1:04:39 > 1:04:46desire, as Desire blasts around the arena, that desire has got the

1:04:46 > 1:04:52Americans back in this. 1998 was the last time the Americans won the

1:04:52 > 1:04:58gold. Four-time defending world champions against the four-time

1:04:58 > 1:05:02defending Olympic champions. This is just unreal. It's been great drama,

1:05:02 > 1:05:06I hope, if this is the first time you have tasted the experience of

1:05:06 > 1:05:11ice hockey or the first time you have watched women's ice hockey,

1:05:11 > 1:05:13you've been narrowly entertained. It doesn't matter which tournament

1:05:13 > 1:05:17you're looking at, this is the best one. -- you have been thoroughly

1:05:17 > 1:05:23entertained.20 years old, Maddie Rooney, look at the smile on her

1:05:23 > 1:05:27face, she doesn't look like she is a young lady realising the magnitude

1:05:27 > 1:05:31of this moment. That being said, I think you've got to have a bit of

1:05:31 > 1:05:35favouritism towards the Canadian netminder Shannon Szabados, a little

1:05:35 > 1:05:41bit bigger and better in a shoot out situation. But in a one-on-one

1:05:41 > 1:05:45situation, you might have to favour the American team. So it's cut right

1:05:45 > 1:05:47down the middle.

1:05:52 > 1:05:59The shooters will know who they are, look at that, the wound up and then

1:05:59 > 1:06:04-- the wound of the Olympic campaign, a broken nose, I don't

1:06:04 > 1:06:09know how she did that, really? With the cage on? Don't know how that

1:06:09 > 1:06:14happened.Give me a few names that were going to see in this shoot out.

1:06:14 > 1:06:25I think you're going to see Melodie Daoust

1:06:25 > 1:06:32Daoust and it goes without saying that Marie-Philip Poulin will be

1:06:32 > 1:06:39going. They will be looking to set the tone early and get a goal. With

1:06:39 > 1:06:45the British link from Manchester, Spooner, it goes off the tape. An

1:06:45 > 1:06:53easy one for Rooney set up. -- first up.She came in with a tonne of

1:06:53 > 1:06:56speed but lost control, donor what she tried to accomplish. She lost

1:06:56 > 1:07:02control under her stick. Very easy for the American netminder. These

1:07:02 > 1:07:07two teams have practised this an awful lot. Because they know how

1:07:07 > 1:07:17important it can be. Here is the XP and Marvin. She scores. --

1:07:17 > 1:07:23experienced, Marvin. And US take the lead, marvellous from Marvin. She

1:07:23 > 1:07:28lost the handle of it briefly but was able to hammer it through. It

1:07:28 > 1:07:34might have Szabados just enough.

1:07:40 > 1:07:52So many goals she has scored, and rifles at home. Canada level. So

1:07:52 > 1:07:58much confidence on the shoot from Agosta here, left and right, it

1:07:58 > 1:08:04comes in on the ankle and upstairs past the blocker.Rooney gets

1:08:04 > 1:08:09outside the post, taken to wide eyed the experienced veteran. Now Hannah

1:08:09 > 1:08:19Brandt. Her sister played for the Korean team. And here she is on the

1:08:19 > 1:08:26final. Saved by Szabados extract hide at two after two. -- saved by

1:08:26 > 1:08:36Szabados! Now it is tied at 2-2.She knows she got a piece of it and it

1:08:36 > 1:08:43stays out went between the legs.It stays out. Marie-Philip Poulin, two

1:08:43 > 1:08:50Olympic game winning golds to her name, a good save, Rooney. Stayed

1:08:50 > 1:08:59big and tall. And it raises a smile. She tried to do the same thing as

1:08:59 > 1:09:06Agosta did and Rooney was there the whole way. Great stop.

1:09:10 > 1:09:16whole way. Great stop. The first offence to go.A kick save from

1:09:16 > 1:09:27Pfalzer on the -- from Szabados. From Pfalzer. Straight down Main

1:09:27 > 1:09:36Street but read beautifully for Szabados.

1:09:36 > 1:09:39Szabados.Now Daoust, maybe Canada's best player in the tournament, so

1:09:39 > 1:09:50composed. Oh, my word! That was incredible! Shades of Forsberg in

1:09:50 > 1:10:0094! Daoust with a shoot out goal to savour! Are you kidding Mirai Nagasu

1:10:00 > 1:10:06you got to be, look at this! And amazing goal from Daoust! -- are you

1:10:06 > 1:10:11kidding me right now? You have got to the! She gets it past the

1:10:11 > 1:10:19netminder with one hand!Amanda Kessel scores for the Americans, top

1:10:19 > 1:10:27corner. Levelling things up. Well, if Daoust was a thing of beauty,

1:10:27 > 1:10:32that was a thing of power. The patients, waits until Szabados makes

1:10:32 > 1:10:40the first move and then over the club. What a shot from Amanda. For

1:10:40 > 1:10:53the Canadians, Jenner, and saved. Rooney smiles. She knows she has

1:10:53 > 1:10:59given the Americans the chance to win gold in the next shot. What a

1:10:59 > 1:11:09stop right there.Szabados knows, the coach knows. Hilary Knight, the

1:11:09 > 1:11:18face of women's cocky in the USA. A gold medal shot for the

1:11:18 > 1:11:26-- the face of women's hockey. And who did the coaches pick now?I

1:11:26 > 1:11:33don't even know what to say. Hilary Knight, robbed by Shannon Szabados.

1:11:33 > 1:11:43But that in and you gold medal champions.

1:11:43 > 1:11:47champions. Agosta came out, they might be taking a bit of a break.

1:11:47 > 1:11:58They flip over the next five so it's Lamoureux first. Slowly, slowly. All

1:11:58 > 1:12:10the way in, Lamoureux, great goal. Shake and bake. USA go up and now

1:12:10 > 1:12:15they anxiously wait to see whether this is good enough for gold. What a

1:12:15 > 1:12:23move from Lamoureux. That is just perfection right there. It's going

1:12:23 > 1:12:29to be Agosta. She's already scored once. She has to score to keep

1:12:29 > 1:12:39Canada in with a chance. Saved! The USA win gold! For the first time

1:12:39 > 1:12:44since 1998! Canada's run of 24 straight wins in Olympic hockey

1:12:44 > 1:12:51matches is over. They are devastated.

1:12:51 > 1:12:53devastated. As the Americans are crowned Olympic champions for the

1:12:53 > 1:13:06second time. The queens of ice hockey. USA win it on a shoot out.

1:13:06 > 1:13:12In the most Joe Mattock circumstances. -- most dramatic

1:13:12 > 1:13:14circumstances.

1:13:16 > 1:13:22What a game. This was history right here.

1:13:27 > 1:13:31It took everything, 60 minutes wasn't enough, 20 minutes of

1:13:31 > 1:13:36overtime wasn't enough. Five penalty shots per side wasn't enough. And

1:13:36 > 1:13:43then finally it was Jocelyn Lamoureux with incredible patience,

1:13:43 > 1:13:52boys, with an incredible move, and then the 20-year-old netminder turns

1:13:52 > 1:14:00aside the Canadian veterinary. There she is there, Maddie Rooney. And the

1:14:00 > 1:14:10Americans turn such a heartache into Pyeongchang golds.A 20 year wait

1:14:10 > 1:14:17for gold, and it ends back in Asia where it all started. And they also

1:14:17 > 1:14:25liberate, tears of joy -- and they will celebrate, tears of joy. And on

1:14:25 > 1:14:31the other side, tears of disappointment. And so fitting is

1:14:31 > 1:14:38one of the Lamoureux twins, they have had such an outstanding career.

1:14:38 > 1:14:47This American team has fought long and hard for their rights, to be

1:14:47 > 1:14:52treated as professional athletes by the US Association. They have fought

1:14:52 > 1:14:56Canada, they have afford the disappointment that they faced, and

1:14:56 > 1:15:03in the end they rely on their 20-year-old netminder Maddie Rooney

1:15:03 > 1:15:07who made the stop and then the realisation. The Golden girls of

1:15:07 > 1:15:12American hockey.

1:15:14 > 1:15:20American hockey. Well, what dramatic final. Canadians finally beaten as

1:15:20 > 1:15:28the US end that 20 year wait for a gold medal. They took penalty shots

1:15:28 > 1:15:34for the Americans to be the Canadians, what again. -- beat the

1:15:34 > 1:15:38Canadians, what a game. STUDIO: so often a bridesmaid

1:15:38 > 1:15:45against their feasts rival, the USA win their second Olympic gold, first

1:15:45 > 1:15:50since 1998. What a final it was. Credible stuff. If you're looking

1:15:50 > 1:15:55for a bit more tension on the ice, plenty over at the Curling Centre

1:15:55 > 1:16:01this morning because Great Britain's men were up against Switzerland to

1:16:01 > 1:16:04take the last available semifinal place. GB had beaten the Swiss in

1:16:04 > 1:16:09the round robin session in a last end thrilling match. This time it

1:16:09 > 1:16:15was not to be quite the same story. The final story here. GB were

1:16:15 > 1:16:23leading 5-4 but an incredible last stone for the Swiss. It would give

1:16:23 > 1:16:32them five stones. Take them into a 9-5 lead.

1:16:33 > 1:16:39It would be the one that would send Kyle Smith and his team home. They

1:16:39 > 1:16:44have had a fantastic debut, but that was to be for them. The Swiss team

1:16:44 > 1:16:47go through to the semifinals and afterwards Kyle Smith spoke to Steve

1:16:47 > 1:16:52Cram.

1:16:52 > 1:16:52afterwards Kyle Smith spoke to Steve Cram.

1:16:52 > 1:16:55You're obviously hugely disappointed. Just talk us through

1:16:55 > 1:17:00the ninth end and the shot you played. It is always a tricky

1:17:00 > 1:17:05situation, you do not want to give them the blank in the ninth end, so

1:17:05 > 1:17:11we were trying to force them down to one. Things were not looking great

1:17:11 > 1:17:16early on, and unfortunately we missed a few, and we had a chance to

1:17:16 > 1:17:24hold them, and that was the game. You guys came out firing really

1:17:24 > 1:17:30well.

1:17:30 > 1:17:33well.It was going perfectly. Yes, probably one of the best games we

1:17:33 > 1:17:37have played this week, and unfortunately some shots at the end

1:17:37 > 1:17:41which were the turning point in the game. Apart from that it is the best

1:17:41 > 1:17:46performance we have put together, just hugely disappointed.That is a

1:17:46 > 1:17:52word you will be using a lot, disappointment. Kyle

1:17:52 > 1:17:53word you will be using a lot, disappointment. Kyle, possibly one

1:17:53 > 1:17:57of the worst experiences of your career, I guess?Yes, worst and

1:17:57 > 1:18:02best.

1:18:02 > 1:18:11best. We have played pretty well, we had a couple of chances to beat the

1:18:11 > 1:18:15USA last night and did not manage, and we got the lifeline this

1:18:15 > 1:18:18morning, we played pretty well, but a couple of shots at this level is

1:18:18 > 1:18:23enough to lose the game.It is hard to find the positives. Particularly

1:18:23 > 1:18:29straight after you have just come off the ice. What have you learned?

1:18:29 > 1:18:36We have had a lot of good games, but the odd missed shot here and here

1:18:36 > 1:18:47which has cost us. It is about doing our best moving forward.Your

1:18:47 > 1:18:50reflections on the week? Your biscuit. A lot of people were not

1:18:50 > 1:18:53expecting you to do particularly well. What is your reflection on the

1:18:53 > 1:19:05week?It is hard to reflect so soon after the loss, but we came to our

1:19:05 > 1:19:08first Olympics and gave it our best shot and made the play-offs in the

1:19:08 > 1:19:12end. We had a good game but it was not to be, sadly. A couple things

1:19:12 > 1:19:17did not go our way and a couple of half shots, and that is all it

1:19:17 > 1:19:23takes. There is plenty to look forward to, and I just need to take

1:19:23 > 1:19:30some time to reflect on this and see what we can take from it.Well

1:19:30 > 1:19:33played this week, bad luck today.

1:19:33 > 1:19:35what we can take from it.Well played this week, bad luck today.

1:19:35 > 1:19:40Disappointment, but I am sure they will be back in four years in

1:19:40 > 1:19:51Beijing. This is how the semifinals will line up.

1:19:54 > 1:19:58You may remember we told a story a few days ago of Great Britain's

1:19:58 > 1:20:04bobsleigh girls, Mica McNeill, and to become the. They were told five

1:20:04 > 1:20:09months before coming that their funding was being stopped. They

1:20:09 > 1:20:18appealed to the great British public in a crowdfunding page and it was a

1:20:18 > 1:20:25great celebration for them yesterday.

1:20:25 > 1:20:28yesterday. Mica McNeill and Mica Moore, starting off in eighth place.

1:20:28 > 1:20:32You will get a direct comparison as we go, between themselves and the

1:20:32 > 1:20:42Swiss team, who have just gone. If they can hold them at bay, a little

1:20:42 > 1:20:48bit of history will come their way. Slight

1:20:54 > 1:21:03disappointment, they were in 11th place, we know the

1:21:11 > 1:21:18better there start is not great, not terrible.

1:21:18 > 1:21:22terrible.That might cost, not as bad as others through the, but the

1:21:22 > 1:21:32two tenths of a second mate drop off a little.

1:21:32 > 1:21:37a little. She needs to get this right, and we could get the top

1:21:37 > 1:21:45eight. Has shed got enough speed left?

1:21:45 > 1:21:57left? Starting to pull away.No one has been eighth at the Olympic Games

1:21:57 > 1:22:05before, but they have just claimed that position! Nicola Minichiello in

1:22:05 > 1:22:082006 was a fabulous ninth. But the British pairing go one better at

1:22:08 > 1:22:15least. What an Olympic Games for the player who are only here for the

1:22:15 > 1:22:19generosity of the British public. The funding was completely slashed

1:22:19 > 1:22:24last year. They put out there begging bowl and got enough money to

1:22:24 > 1:22:33keep them on the road, keep them in business. Their heads never dropped

1:22:33 > 1:22:40and now they have secured a slice sporting history for Britain.

1:22:40 > 1:22:43So, some history at the Sliding Centre.

1:22:43 > 1:22:48So, some history at the Sliding Centre.

1:22:52 > 1:22:58Mica and Mica are joining the.I was just critiquing myself! It is not

1:22:58 > 1:23:05too bad, I am happy with it.That is an understatement. The best British

1:23:05 > 1:23:08result from a woman's bobsleigh team, and you did it on your own

1:23:08 > 1:23:13with the help of the British public. It is amazing. We did not think we

1:23:13 > 1:23:19would be here a few months ago, so when we knew we were coming, we said

1:23:19 > 1:23:26just enjoy it, hopefully a top ten position, but we have update --

1:23:26 > 1:23:29outdone ourselves. What was the real driving force behind the performance

1:23:29 > 1:23:35and result? The Olympic Games is every athlete's dream, and we have

1:23:35 > 1:23:39worked for a back. When you work for it for years then you're not sure of

1:23:39 > 1:23:43his is going to happen, it seems like it is getting taken away from

1:23:43 > 1:23:47you, and we had to do something about it, so we started our

1:23:47 > 1:23:51fundraising campaign because we did not want to be sitting watching at

1:23:51 > 1:23:55home. It has been really great, we have come out here and shown what we

1:23:55 > 1:24:00can do, and it is nice to repay the public and Great Britain, but it is

1:24:00 > 1:24:08also nice that we knew we could do it all along.Five months ago, what

1:24:08 > 1:24:15was your reaction when you were told the funding was stopped. We were

1:24:15 > 1:24:18devastated at the time, but we are sportswomen and very focused and

1:24:18 > 1:24:27driven, so we acted quite quickly and asked the public to get as one

1:24:27 > 1:24:33season, and a shared our story, and it was amazing to know we had the

1:24:33 > 1:24:38people behind us. We have competed in competitions, got extra runs,

1:24:38 > 1:24:42which is so important when we come from a country that does not have a

1:24:42 > 1:24:48track, so we grateful for everyone who helped us.We had your interview

1:24:48 > 1:24:54last night, you just got off the track. You said you hadn't spoken to

1:24:54 > 1:24:59anyone from British bobsleigh. Have you spoken to them yet?Yes,

1:24:59 > 1:25:03everyone is really happy for us. It has been really nice to work with

1:25:03 > 1:25:07the coaches and come together for the Olympic Games, they are really

1:25:07 > 1:25:11pleased. It was a really great result. But we are looking forward

1:25:11 > 1:25:17to getting back to England and sitting down with the coaches and

1:25:17 > 1:25:22making a plan going forward.Do you know any more about what can happen

1:25:22 > 1:25:27next, and is funding likely to determine? We do not know anything

1:25:27 > 1:25:31at the moment, and probably will not find out for a while, so it is a bit

1:25:31 > 1:25:37of a waiting game, and there is a lot to get on with in the meantime.

1:25:37 > 1:25:42We will probably have a holiday then back to work. You deserve the

1:25:42 > 1:25:46holiday, certainly. What would you like to see to the people who

1:25:46 > 1:25:49supported you? It must have been incredible, you had reached your

1:25:49 > 1:25:55target within six days.We cannot say thank you enough. We have been

1:25:55 > 1:26:02able to come out and represent Great Britain. It was nice to have a woman

1:26:02 > 1:26:05representative, and it is great that the public are learning more about

1:26:05 > 1:26:11winter sport and we want to thank everyone who donated and shared the

1:26:11 > 1:26:15story and all the messages of support. Everyone from back home who

1:26:15 > 1:26:18called us and said we can help with their son back. It just brought it

1:26:18 > 1:26:27all together and made it competitive, meaning we could get

1:26:27 > 1:26:30faster and stronger.Have about your relationship? You are a little team

1:26:30 > 1:26:34on the track, but you have had to work closely together to make this

1:26:34 > 1:26:39happen.We have a good relationship even behind the scenes, which helps

1:26:39 > 1:26:48with everything we do. We have trust in each other, we know that we will

1:26:48 > 1:26:52give 150%. We are the smallest girls in bobsleigh, so we have to give it

1:26:52 > 1:26:57our all every time, and we know that we will do that.It is really

1:26:57 > 1:27:03important for a team to get on. Inmate should able to get on with

1:27:03 > 1:27:09each other, and have a good working team. The start is probably the

1:27:09 > 1:27:13thing that needs a little more work. How do you develop that as you look

1:27:13 > 1:27:19ahead to next season to potentially being back in the Team GB colours?

1:27:19 > 1:27:23Every athlete knows that you cannot become much stronger and faster

1:27:23 > 1:27:27overnight. We're still young athletes, up against athletes who

1:27:27 > 1:27:32have done two Olympic Games, and they have all this experience.

1:27:32 > 1:27:35Another four years will be great for us to get faster than Sean Dillon to

1:27:35 > 1:27:42get more consistent with my driving, in my third heat I had a problem

1:27:42 > 1:27:46that knocked us back, but it is four years, which is a long-time. They

1:27:46 > 1:27:52think we can do it but we need to put a little bit of weight on as

1:27:52 > 1:27:55well as a major markthat means more chocolate and decay, so that is

1:27:55 > 1:28:00good. What will be the biggest memory here in Pyeongchang? One of

1:28:00 > 1:28:04the nicest memories is being able to have our families a year. When you

1:28:04 > 1:28:10are on season, we are away for 56 months of the year, and do not see

1:28:10 > 1:28:13our families often. So, when we were on the start line for the last heat,

1:28:13 > 1:28:20we could them chanting, and usually you are so serious that I was

1:28:20 > 1:28:26smiling under my helmet. It was amazing. It made it a really relaxed

1:28:26 > 1:28:33atmosphere, but I have never had that much fun racing in my life. I

1:28:33 > 1:28:36have never walked away from arrays and said, that was really fun, I

1:28:36 > 1:28:43want to do it again. You normally walk away exhausted and tired. We

1:28:43 > 1:28:47were just beaming with smiles and wanted to get back to the top to go

1:28:47 > 1:28:51again.I'm afraid you cannot go again, but the four-man bob goes,

1:28:51 > 1:28:57will you be joining in the chant? You could start the chanting for

1:28:57 > 1:29:00that?Absolutely, we're really close with them, we travel together all

1:29:00 > 1:29:06winter and it will be awesome to see them do well. If they need is moving

1:29:06 > 1:29:11things or cheering them on.Huge congratulations, we cannot wait to

1:29:11 > 1:29:16see what happens in four years, I am sure you will be back. From

1:29:16 > 1:29:20bobsleigh to something a little bit different. It is one of only six

1:29:20 > 1:29:24sports that have been in every single Winter Olympic so far. Today

1:29:24 > 1:29:32it is the team Nordic combined. It is a ski jump off the large hill,

1:29:32 > 1:29:40followed by a 4.5 kilometre cross-country. It is a crazy sport,

1:29:40 > 1:29:44I think, but Ollie Williams can keep it up-to-date with what he thinks.

1:29:44 > 1:29:47We are joining it for the ski jump.

1:29:47 > 1:29:49it up-to-date with what he thinks. We are joining it for the ski jump.

1:29:50 > 1:29:56It is a little crazy, the Nordic combined, and what is crazier is the

1:29:56 > 1:29:59team event, played it will go off over the next hour. You're about to

1:29:59 > 1:30:06see ten teams of four entering this. I feel like this is the ultimate

1:30:06 > 1:30:10winter eliminate, ski jumping, then skiing, which decides the medals.

1:30:10 > 1:30:15The way that the ski jump helps is you get points for the jump. They

1:30:15 > 1:30:18will come down the jump on the right-hand side, a little snow in

1:30:18 > 1:30:25the air, below freezing, the snow is just whirling around. I focus on not

1:30:25 > 1:30:33only because the wind conditions are going to make a bit of a difference.

1:30:33 > 1:30:36They are blowing the snow from the track to make sure they stay nice

1:30:36 > 1:30:43and crisp and fresh bread to one. This is the first competitor.

1:30:46 > 1:30:55By checking our stars is first out to get the team Nordic. He thinks

1:30:55 > 1:31:01it's so-so at best. We will be looking at real contenders for

1:31:01 > 1:31:08medals little bit later on to be trying to get over 130 metres, plus.

1:31:08 > 1:31:12But it's not just your distance that gets you point, it's also your style

1:31:12 > 1:31:16in the. If you seen any of the ski jumping early on, you'll know that

1:31:16 > 1:31:20what the coaches and judges are looking for is for you to hold your

1:31:20 > 1:31:30form in the air and make sure that you land beautifully.

1:31:30 > 1:31:37you land beautifully. We move on to Ben Loomis from the USA. Only a

1:31:37 > 1:31:46teenager. Olympics or the medallist. US team was expecting to be -- are

1:31:46 > 1:31:50not expecting to be medallist but they are improving year-on-year.

1:31:50 > 1:31:55It's a bit of a struggle, they do have a history of winning medals in

1:31:55 > 1:32:00Nordic combined. But that's not going to feature among those names

1:32:00 > 1:32:07at the top of the leaderboard. You can see you put your skis out into a

1:32:07 > 1:32:17V shape, lean over and then you have bent knees and arms out. Roughly

1:32:17 > 1:32:22half of your score comes from the judges. 16 is OK but distance but

1:32:22 > 1:32:32that great. Into the lead for now. Watch out when we get to Austria,

1:32:32 > 1:32:37Japan, Germany and Norway in a few jumps. They are the ones likely to

1:32:37 > 1:32:46go well. Ondrej Pazout for the Czech Republic, landing in a solid red

1:32:46 > 1:32:59line across the jump, that is called the K-point, at 125 metres. If you

1:32:59 > 1:33:09hit that point, you score a base of 65 points for your distance, if you

1:33:09 > 1:33:13don't make it, you get points taken off, if you land beyond it, you get

1:33:13 > 1:33:23marks added on. 51 from the judges. A little less than 60 for the

1:33:23 > 1:33:25distance.

1:33:28 > 1:33:37The youngest athlete here for Italy, Aaron Kostner. Well short of the

1:33:37 > 1:33:45gratuitous described. -- of the K-point we just described. 37th

1:33:45 > 1:33:53overall in the normal hill. Nordic combined is so interesting because

1:33:53 > 1:33:58it combines not only ski jumping and cross-country skiing but people who

1:33:58 > 1:34:02are good at ski jumping and April who are good at cross-country skiing

1:34:02 > 1:34:07but not that great at the other ones. So you will see ski jumper to

1:34:07 > 1:34:10look disappointing but they will make up the time in the

1:34:10 > 1:34:14cross-country skiing later and they could be in the reckoning, and

1:34:14 > 1:34:18similarly you will see people putting in some amazing jumps here

1:34:18 > 1:34:22who are not that quick comparatively in the cross-country skiing. So that

1:34:22 > 1:34:26ski to the finish for the medals becomes a great pursuit between the

1:34:26 > 1:34:30people who got out in front in the ski jump and those who are actually

1:34:30 > 1:34:37better at skiing. Francois Braud for France, you can hear in the

1:34:37 > 1:34:42background the Blowers being fired up to keep the snow out of the

1:34:42 > 1:34:52tracks that led to take off. A solid length. You stay crouched down until

1:34:52 > 1:34:59you get that point at the end and new up into the V shape, hold the

1:34:59 > 1:35:03position, telegraphed landing, both legs bent, arms outstretched, that's

1:35:03 > 1:35:11a solid charm. His team-mates watch and you only get one jump. She gets

1:35:11 > 1:35:21it wrong, that's it. -- if you get it wrong, that's it. For Finland,

1:35:21 > 1:35:31Ilkka Herola. A quite young Finnish team competing here. That jump has

1:35:31 > 1:35:43excellent distance. High fives from the coaches.

1:35:43 > 1:35:45the coaches. A big, big opening effort for the Finnish team who were

1:35:45 > 1:35:51outsiders at best. If they can keep that going, that will put them into

1:35:51 > 1:35:58contention for the medals. The great landing as well. Ilkka Herola very

1:35:58 > 1:36:05happy with himself.

1:36:05 > 1:36:11Finland go into the lead, five points ahead of France and we move

1:36:11 > 1:36:15on to Austria. Austria do have something of a chance to speak on

1:36:15 > 1:36:23podium here.

1:36:24 > 1:36:30Again, another strong jump. As I say, you only have one chance. If

1:36:30 > 1:36:36you get it wrong and land five or ten metres back of what they are

1:36:36 > 1:36:41looking for, that really hurts your team's chances in the cross-country.

1:36:41 > 1:36:47Every point you only hear is time in that cross-country. If you win the

1:36:47 > 1:36:51ski jump, every other team has to start behind you by converting

1:36:51 > 1:36:58points into seconds. It staggered start and you get more of a head

1:36:58 > 1:37:08start the further you jump. Into second place for now. Starting for

1:37:08 > 1:37:14Japan now. 34-year-old Hideaki Nagai. The code uses the flag to

1:37:14 > 1:37:24tell the jump they are clear to go.

1:37:24 > 1:37:30Again, around about the K-point of 125 metres, a little bit further

1:37:30 > 1:37:39back than some of the jumps we have seen.

1:37:39 > 1:37:44seen. A phenomenal venue this has been, this is the last day of any

1:37:44 > 1:37:52ski jumping action here. The coat is happy with that. -- the coach is

1:37:52 > 1:37:59happy. The nod from the Japanese team-mate in the waiting room. Forth

1:37:59 > 1:38:04for now but they have stronger competitors coming out. Watch out

1:38:04 > 1:38:08for Akito Watabe jumping last for Japan, one of the best in the world,

1:38:08 > 1:38:13so is this man for Germany, Eric Frenzel. A gold and a bronze medal

1:38:13 > 1:38:19already for Germany in these games, gold in Sochi as well and a huge

1:38:19 > 1:38:24jump to get Germany on their way. There are still three more to come

1:38:24 > 1:38:31for each team. 137 metres is a big start for Germany courtesy of their

1:38:31 > 1:38:36main man.

1:38:37 > 1:38:41main man. You need such coordination, skill and timing to

1:38:41 > 1:38:46get this right. And if you have watched him opening his champagne

1:38:46 > 1:38:51after winning the bronze medal a couple of days ago, you wouldn't

1:38:51 > 1:38:53have noticed he had any of those things because he knocked one of his

1:38:53 > 1:39:01own teeth out with a champagne cork. You might be able to see a gap, they

1:39:01 > 1:39:06have tried to put his teeth back in! A little bit wonky! Doesn't matter

1:39:06 > 1:39:12when you're winning and Olympic medal.

1:39:13 > 1:39:15medal. Only Norway possibly could keep up with Germany. Germany the

1:39:15 > 1:39:24favourites. You will see it's a long jump but not quite up to that green

1:39:24 > 1:39:33line which represents the line of the leaders. 3.5 metres back.

1:39:36 > 1:39:45Look at this form. All of these jumps look uniform, you have to do

1:39:45 > 1:39:53that landing, there is no other way to land. Norway have been struggling

1:39:53 > 1:40:01with the ski jumping. So far, in this Olympics. They are into third,

1:40:01 > 1:40:05behind Finland and that's a bit of a surprise as we enter this

1:40:05 > 1:40:14FirstGroup. -- end this first group. Germany have a reasonably half the

1:40:14 > 1:40:16lead.

1:40:24 > 1:40:28The five teams at the top are the ones best positioned for the medals

1:40:28 > 1:40:38so far. We take one more look at Eric Frenzel, Germany 1-2- three in

1:40:38 > 1:40:46the individual event on the Hill a few days ago Nixon clear favourites

1:40:46 > 1:40:49to take the team golds today and that's exactly the start they would

1:40:49 > 1:41:01have wanted from that man. Here we go for round two. Look out for Go

1:41:01 > 1:41:11Yamamoto for Japan, Vinzenz Geiger, German's young

1:41:11 > 1:41:12German's young Nordic combined sensation, and Jarl Magnus Riiber

1:41:12 > 1:41:17who missed out having run the Germans close in the previous event.

1:41:17 > 1:41:26Pawel Slowiok waits for the lights to go green, which is controlled by

1:41:26 > 1:41:30the wind jury, they have a room where they have all of the data from

1:41:30 > 1:41:33all of the metres, telling them that the wind conditions are OK said the

1:41:33 > 1:41:41coach drops the flag.

1:41:44 > 1:41:52A slightly better skier than the jumper so he needs every meeting he

1:41:52 > 1:42:01can get. -- every metre he can get. That's what makes this particular

1:42:01 > 1:42:06sports are interesting, it's not just how good you are at jumping or

1:42:06 > 1:42:11skiing, it's frankly, how bad you are at the other one. You can see

1:42:11 > 1:42:15how tricky the landing is, having to reach forward to maintain his

1:42:15 > 1:42:20balance.

1:42:24 > 1:42:27Already, Poland struggling. Strange because Poland are a dominant nation

1:42:27 > 1:42:33in ski jump on its own, but in Nordic combined they are struggling

1:42:33 > 1:42:37this year.

1:42:42 > 1:42:48Good jump from Ben Berend. Not up there with the huge distances we've

1:42:48 > 1:42:55already seen but 120 metres from the US point of view for the young team

1:42:55 > 1:43:03is a really positive start. He was only 40th in the world at last

1:43:03 > 1:43:09year's World Championships but this US team really coming along well

1:43:09 > 1:43:13after apparent few years. Little adjustments in the air to control

1:43:13 > 1:43:16direction and speed. A slightly different technique from Ben Berend,

1:43:16 > 1:43:31you will see it was more of a letter H Dana V in the air. You crying can

1:43:31 > 1:43:35go for a letter H if you want.

1:43:38 > 1:43:53A little unsteady offer there, back from the K-point, which you can

1:43:53 > 1:44:01consider like the par score Inc. -- in golf. Your timing has to be so

1:44:01 > 1:44:04precise to reach the bottom of the platform, it's 100 metres just to

1:44:04 > 1:44:10that platform. When you're in the air, it's more than that and you

1:44:10 > 1:44:19have to get the landing just right. Enough there to put the Czech

1:44:19 > 1:44:30Republic above the US and Poland. To Italy and Lukas Runggaldier. His

1:44:30 > 1:44:41sister was in the women's ski jump event here. Not great from him. A

1:44:41 > 1:44:44little Santa coming down the hill but more importantly, the distance

1:44:44 > 1:44:54was not there. -- he was a little off centre coming down the hill. You

1:44:54 > 1:44:57don't get the take-off right, and there is literally nothing you can

1:44:57 > 1:45:08do in the air other than let the jump take its course.

1:45:09 > 1:45:15A bit of a rueful wave goodbye to the Olympics. But it will be back in

1:45:15 > 1:45:23the cross-country skiing. A gold medallist in the normal hill, way

1:45:23 > 1:45:31back in Vancouver 2010, down to 35th in Sochi and 31st this year. Waiting

1:45:31 > 1:45:41for the green light. That runs up to 45, if it gets to 45 without going

1:45:41 > 1:45:46green, it will turn red and he will get 40 seconds to compose itself

1:45:46 > 1:45:50while they wait for the wind conditions. The coach withdraws the

1:45:50 > 1:45:57flag and he will shuffle back. It's about -2 up there, nowhere near as

1:45:57 > 1:46:03cold as we have seen. If you watched the start of the limits, they had

1:46:03 > 1:46:09blankets ready for everybody. Today it's a bit easier. You have five

1:46:09 > 1:46:16minutes up there waiting to jump.

1:46:16 > 1:46:27minutes up there waiting to jump. C if we can get a green light.

1:46:39 > 1:46:52And as jump from Jason Lamy Chappuis. France got off to a great

1:46:55 > 1:47:06start with Francois Braud. He does well to keep hold of the landing.

1:47:06 > 1:47:12The team-mates and culture very happy with that. A strong scorer. A

1:47:12 > 1:47:16provisional lead for now, it is not the kind of score you will see from

1:47:16 > 1:47:23the last few teams, but it keeps them up there.

1:47:28 > 1:47:38them up there. Now, Cannes to do the same for Finland? He got a great

1:47:38 > 1:47:43start from Ilkka Herola. It looks like another pause because of the

1:47:43 > 1:47:48wind.

1:47:55 > 1:47:59The jury in charge of the wind conditions has to make sure the

1:47:59 > 1:48:06conditions are safe and therefore all competitors. Not only that there

1:48:06 > 1:48:19is not a crosswind, but that it is similar for everyone.

1:48:19 > 1:48:21similar for everyone. You always want to try to make sure that the

1:48:21 > 1:48:33wind is roughly the same for each competitor.

1:48:38 > 1:48:46108 metres, a full 25 metres back from his team-mate Ilkka Herola. You

1:48:46 > 1:48:50get one jump each for your four team members, and if one doesn't manage

1:48:50 > 1:48:54to keep up to the standard of the others, it will cost two seconds in

1:48:54 > 1:49:04the cross-country skiing.

1:49:22 > 1:49:29A little wobble on the way down, but a great

1:49:32 > 1:49:38a great jump from Bernhard Gruber, and maybe Austria can be contenders.

1:49:38 > 1:49:48He was the world champion in 2015. He was the only member of the

1:49:48 > 1:49:52Austrian team who won the gold medal Eaton years ago, and he was rolling

1:49:52 > 1:50:03back the years. 35 years old.

1:50:12 > 1:50:19If you go online and look up

1:50:27 > 1:50:42at him, he is in a band, for this board. This was

1:50:42 > 1:50:52board. This was one of the best jumps for Go Yamamoto. In the team

1:50:52 > 1:51:04event he has three others around him who can help in his less strong

1:51:04 > 1:51:10events, not

1:51:10 > 1:51:16events, not least Akito Watabe, the world number one.

1:51:21 > 1:51:24world number one. You will see more of Vinzenz Geiger, he has been

1:51:24 > 1:51:29exceptional at the Olympics. I think this man will someday replace Eric

1:51:29 > 1:51:36Frenzel as the superstar on the German team. He should be happy with

1:51:36 > 1:51:45that. It is not one of the longest jumps we have seen, but when you

1:51:45 > 1:51:48watch the remainder of the German team, that will be a good

1:51:48 > 1:51:53contribution.

1:52:03 > 1:52:12The Germans are happy enough! Let us take a look at the scorer. Germany

1:52:12 > 1:52:20are just into second.

1:52:20 > 1:52:24are just into second. And the last in this round is the Norwegian, who

1:52:24 > 1:52:41could not hold on a few days ago. We're coming to two Norwegian

1:52:41 > 1:52:47competitors still to go.

1:52:52 > 1:52:55competitors still to go. And they have not had much luck, so they

1:52:55 > 1:53:06needed this one to be good, and it was. Norway is still in contention.

1:53:14 > 1:53:21That is enough to put Norway into the lead

1:53:24 > 1:53:27the lead ahead of Austria and Germany. Germany are not far back in

1:53:27 > 1:53:37third position.

1:53:56 > 1:53:59You land on your front leg and transferred the week to your back is

1:53:59 > 1:54:04your land. He held the landing nicely. And he gets to hang out in

1:54:04 > 1:54:15the hot seat as we see the sun going down over the

1:54:15 > 1:54:22down over the Alpensia ski jump. It will be interesting to see how these

1:54:22 > 1:54:27competitors go.

1:54:32 > 1:54:52We wait for the wind to settle down before Poland. The slope is not made

1:54:52 > 1:55:01from snow, it is made from a performance ceramic, so every

1:55:01 > 1:55:04competitor gets exactly the same surface which is important for

1:55:04 > 1:55:16Furniss. They are blowing it to keep the snow out. There is a bit of wind

1:55:16 > 1:55:20in the air, a bit of snow in the air. That is why they are treating

1:55:20 > 1:55:25at the way they are.

1:55:26 > 1:55:28at the way they are. Looks like we're going to give it a go for Adam

1:55:28 > 1:55:36Cieslar, to start three of four. You will see there is a swirling wind

1:55:36 > 1:55:40icon ahead of the jumper, which has gone from red to black, which means

1:55:40 > 1:55:46it is OK.

1:55:53 > 1:55:58A better jump from Poland. Adam Cieslar nearly lost it, just held

1:55:58 > 1:56:03up.

1:56:06 > 1:56:10up. The jumps from his team-mates will already put Poland quite far

1:56:10 > 1:56:18back. Remember how far you jumps translates to when you start skiing,

1:56:18 > 1:56:27how far behind the leader you will be. Reasonable jump.

1:56:30 > 1:56:37be. Reasonable jump. We still have nine of ten teams to jump. Here is

1:56:37 > 1:56:42Taylor Fletcher from the USA, one of two Fletcher Brothers. We will see

1:56:42 > 1:56:49Bryan Fletcher a little bit later.

1:56:49 > 1:56:57Using the right hand to correct it. Possibly further back from where he

1:56:57 > 1:57:04would have wanted. Taylor Fletcher was not selected for the large hill

1:57:04 > 1:57:18a few days ago, but this is going to be a setback.

1:57:18 > 1:57:20be a setback. This looks almost simple when you see it in slow

1:57:20 > 1:57:25motion.

1:57:26 > 1:57:36motion. Watch how much time he has to land that Denmark.

1:57:40 > 1:57:45to land that Denmark. Just count the number of seconds from the jump to

1:57:45 > 1:57:58the landing, and see how quickly you have two player game.

1:58:00 > 1:58:05You have to judge the depth to see how far off the ground you are,

1:58:05 > 1:58:09which is why we look at these little pain sprigs, as we watch jumping in

1:58:09 > 1:58:15the air. It is difficult to read how high up you are and time the

1:58:15 > 1:58:27landing, which is why you have the little bits of

1:58:31 > 1:58:42pine, it helps you judge.

1:58:46 > 1:58:54Now, Italy, his cross-country is phenomenal. You would expect this

1:58:54 > 1:59:02not to be the greatest.

1:59:02 > 1:59:04not to be the greatest. Solid enough, but the difference is not

1:59:04 > 1:59:13there. That has always

1:59:13 > 1:59:14there. That has always been the case for Alessandro Pittin. He always

1:59:14 > 1:59:17pulls the same as at the bottom of the health. This is something he has

1:59:17 > 1:59:23always struggled with. He is possibly the best cross-country

1:59:23 > 1:59:27skier in the field, and if we look at the split times for the relay

1:59:27 > 1:59:30race coming up later, I will be surprised if anyone beats. May be

1:59:30 > 1:59:35Taylor Fletcher from the US. But he always leads himself in this

1:59:35 > 1:59:42position playing catch up because the jump -- that the jump is just

1:59:42 > 1:59:52not the. Now for France, Gerard. Again, a slightly stronger skier

1:59:52 > 1:59:58than jumper. Waiting for the green light.

1:59:58 > 2:00:03light. You see, this course is to beat 107.5, which moves a little

2:00:03 > 2:00:07with the wind, so as the wind changes, the distance he needs to go

2:00:07 > 2:00:13into the lead changes. That is based on how far away France are, the

2:00:13 > 2:00:20leading team. -- from the leading team. It was stronger Gerard, he is

2:00:20 > 2:00:28not as experienced as the other two Frenchman, who both produced jumps

2:00:28 > 2:00:33just below 130 metres. Gerard is about a decade younger, he will be

2:00:33 > 2:00:45very happy. -- to be hitting the red line, just over.

2:00:47 > 2:00:51A little celebration for Antoine Gerard who is keeping France in the

2:00:51 > 2:00:55hunt for what would be a bit of an unlikely medal here. It's the first

2:00:55 > 2:01:01place for now.

2:01:01 > 2:01:13place for now. Back to Finland. Leevi Mutru's jump has hurt the bid

2:01:13 > 2:01:20for the Finnish team, and he cannot turn it around. They just do not

2:01:20 > 2:01:26have the distance. Better than his team-mate but it's just not good

2:01:26 > 2:01:34enough. Not 40 country that's used to winning medals in this. Over the

2:01:34 > 2:01:36last few years, their Nordic combined programme has really fallen

2:01:36 > 2:01:45off a little bit. That will not repair things. 39 years old in his

2:01:45 > 2:01:49sixth and probably final Olympics. He missed Sochi, his debut was in

2:01:49 > 2:01:571994 when he was 15 years old. That score does not propel Finland into

2:01:57 > 2:02:02the reckoning. Lukas Klapfer for Austria, who looked exceptionally

2:02:02 > 2:02:09good here so far. He was the bronze medallist on the tall hill in week

2:02:09 > 2:02:16one and needs more of the same here. It's good, without being great.

2:02:16 > 2:02:27It'll keep Austria in the hunt. He brings himself to a halt.

2:02:27 > 2:02:33brings himself to a halt. Crouching down,

2:02:33 > 2:02:36down, using that left fist to open up and give himself timing signal as

2:02:36 > 2:02:41he goes up into the air, dropping into a nice comfortable landing. He

2:02:41 > 2:02:51is happy with that. Around about the same distance we saw from his

2:02:51 > 2:02:59team-mate, Mario Seidl, in fact it is exactly the same. That puts

2:02:59 > 2:03:09Austria come to be into the lead. Now, Katie -- the sheet were to be,

2:03:09 > 2:03:18the younger brother of the world number one, Akito Watabe. It is

2:03:18 > 2:03:26Yoshito Watabe. It's a little short. 128 metres, maybe a few metres would

2:03:26 > 2:03:37have been better for Yoshito Watabe. So much depends on when the time

2:03:37 > 2:03:43that surge, that uncoiling of the spring up the body. The judges are

2:03:43 > 2:03:49looking at this, having to crouch low into the landing. OK, says his

2:03:49 > 2:04:00older brother. Japan will only be second, and there is a bit of a gap

2:04:00 > 2:04:04between them and the leaders right now. But we have two teams to go and

2:04:04 > 2:04:15they will have a big say in proceedings. Fabian Rinaudo, --

2:04:15 > 2:04:18Fabio Rinaudo, the silver medallist for Germany. That is surprisingly

2:04:18 > 2:04:31short. That could have a big impact on Germany's chances. It's no where

2:04:31 > 2:04:41near what's he keys capable of. That opens doors for Austria and Japan

2:04:41 > 2:04:49but also Norway, we were expecting Germany to dominate. You can see

2:04:49 > 2:04:56through gritted teeth, Fabian Riessle looks at the scores and

2:04:56 > 2:05:07Germany are police -- beneath Austria. Espen Andersen next, sixth

2:05:07 > 2:05:10in the world, improved this season. He needs to keep the improvement

2:05:10 > 2:05:14going.

2:05:18 > 2:05:28It was reasonably good. It's a metre further than Fabian Riessle from a

2:05:28 > 2:05:37much more experienced athlete. The teams gets to choose who jumps when,

2:05:37 > 2:05:40Fabian Riessle has a lot of experience, a team gold medallist

2:05:40 > 2:05:45and an Olympic bronze medallist even before Pyeongchang. Espen Andersen

2:05:45 > 2:05:54is only young, and fast improving. Norway will be happy that he's

2:05:54 > 2:06:00posting a competitive score and kept them in touch. So Austria the

2:06:00 > 2:06:14surprise leaders. One jump left for each team.

2:06:23 > 2:06:26Germany will be a little bit surprised to be in third place, and

2:06:26 > 2:06:36trailing Austria after this fantastic jump from Lukas Klapfer.

2:06:36 > 2:06:42Mario Seidl, Bernhard Gruber and Lukas Klapfer had each exceeded 130

2:06:42 > 2:06:46metres in distance, the only thing to do that. But distance is only

2:06:46 > 2:06:51part of your score, the judges play a big part but what they do is

2:06:51 > 2:06:58irrelevant if you don't have the distance first. The judging is the

2:06:58 > 2:07:00finessing of things once you have the large distance but without the

2:07:00 > 2:07:08distance, it doesn't matter. Our final ten.

2:07:08 > 2:07:11final ten. Pressure on Johannes Rydzek for Germany, who won the gold

2:07:11 > 2:07:16two

2:07:17 > 2:07:21two days ago. He will now be getting them to try and come from behind. We

2:07:21 > 2:07:29started Szczepan Kupczak. 25 years old, another example of someone who

2:07:29 > 2:07:33excels in one of these disciplines and not the other. In the normal

2:07:33 > 2:07:39hill event, he was 20th after the jump. That is a good job. But he had

2:07:39 > 2:07:45the third worst ski in a field of 50 competitors which dropped him right

2:07:45 > 2:07:57now. That is a big jump, Poland really needed it. But they probably

2:07:57 > 2:08:00don't have the firepower in the ski to make up the lost time they have

2:08:00 > 2:08:11from some of the weaker jumps here.

2:08:15 > 2:08:19Great jump from Kupczak but it might be for nothing when it comes to the

2:08:19 > 2:08:21cross-country ski.

2:08:27 > 2:08:33The other of our two Fletchers, 31-year-old older brother, Bryan

2:08:33 > 2:08:44Fletcher. His second Olympic Games. 26 and 22nd in the individual events

2:08:44 > 2:08:50in Sochi, that is from Bryan Fletcher. The USA have already had

2:08:50 > 2:08:53struggles in the jumps here, which mean that they won't be a factor in

2:08:53 > 2:08:57the cross-country when it comes to the medals but Bryan Fletcher can

2:08:57 > 2:09:03now go home knowing that he has delivered a strong jump in

2:09:03 > 2:09:07Pyeongchang 2018. What a man this is, he was diagnosed with leukaemia

2:09:07 > 2:09:13when he was only three years old. He took up ski jumping a year into

2:09:13 > 2:09:16seven years of chemo because his mum thought it would help keep his mind

2:09:16 > 2:09:20off what was happening to him. He was a four-year-old, when he started

2:09:20 > 2:09:26on ski jumps. A great jump from Bryan Fletcher to round out his

2:09:26 > 2:09:32jumping campaign.

2:09:32 > 2:09:37jumping campaign. Tomas Portyk from the Czech Republic, the wind is

2:09:37 > 2:09:43behaving so we are rapidly getting through the final group. The third

2:09:43 > 2:09:47generation of his family to be a ski jumper. And you can see that in the

2:09:47 > 2:09:52distance.

2:09:53 > 2:10:00distance. Right up there among the best jumps we've seen.

2:10:03 > 2:10:06best jumps we've seen. Easily the best jumps we've seen from our four

2:10:06 > 2:10:11Czech Republic competitors.

2:10:14 > 2:10:17Czech Republic competitors. Just to let that left leg niqab a little bit

2:10:17 > 2:10:20on the

2:10:20 > 2:10:31-- sneak out a little bit on the landing, it will not cost too much.

2:10:31 > 2:10:36Finishing off, for

2:10:37 > 2:10:40Finishing off, for Italy, Raffaele Buzzi. Just came back from surgery

2:10:40 > 2:10:43on a slipped disc on his back which has been troubling him for four

2:10:43 > 2:10:53years. Strong take-off speed but not matched by form or distance.

2:10:54 > 2:10:58matched by form or distance. The whole basic underlying premise of

2:10:58 > 2:11:02this sport is strong take-off speed and jump at exactly the right

2:11:02 > 2:11:06moment. If you have the speed but you don't have the timing, you don't

2:11:06 > 2:11:12get the distance.

2:11:12 > 2:11:18get the distance. Distance wise, the coach clearly happy with it. Maybe

2:11:18 > 2:11:23Raphael will be happy with the distance but it's not near any of

2:11:23 > 2:11:34the distances for Italy to be in the mix at the end of this. France have

2:11:34 > 2:11:38been looking really strong, they have not had a jump above a metres

2:11:38 > 2:11:48but they have all been there or thereabouts. -- above 130 metres.

2:11:51 > 2:11:58It's good, again. Such a solid ski jumper for the French team. That is

2:11:58 > 2:12:07their best jump distance wise, 133 metres. We will look at the form and

2:12:07 > 2:12:14also the wind score as well. A little blustery up there. You will

2:12:14 > 2:12:18see there will be the wind compensation score. You get given

2:12:18 > 2:12:24extra points if the wind was against you, not helping you. Points taking

2:12:24 > 2:12:31away if your drum was assisted by the wind.

2:12:35 > 2:12:44the wind. For now, France hold the lead.

2:12:44 > 2:12:49lead. Only 22 years old, Eero Hirvonen from Finland. The best

2:12:49 > 2:12:54athlete on the World Cup circuit this winter from Finland. Dropping

2:12:54 > 2:13:00down nicely in a strong jump. Finland will finish well over 130

2:13:00 > 2:13:06metres.

2:13:07 > 2:13:17metres. Those two jumps, neither of which could even get to 120 metres.

2:13:17 > 2:13:22If you're just joining us, what are you watching? One pod ski jump, one

2:13:22 > 2:13:27part cross-country skiing.

2:13:27 > 2:13:30part cross-country skiing. Everyone has one jump on the points will be

2:13:30 > 2:13:32translated into times for a cross-country ski coming up the

2:13:32 > 2:13:36little later today to decide the medals. It is a four by five

2:13:36 > 2:13:41kilometre relay. Right now Austria are in the mix to get some medals

2:13:41 > 2:13:48today. It will come down to 37-year-old Wilhelm Denifl, one of

2:13:48 > 2:13:57the oldest competitors. Can they keep this momentum going? He can!

2:13:57 > 2:14:03Huge from Wilhelm Denifl.

2:14:03 > 2:14:06Huge from Wilhelm Denifl. The veteran of the Austrian team pulls

2:14:06 > 2:14:21it out. And Austria are going to be contenders.

2:14:21 > 2:14:24contenders. Into that landing, beautifully done. Nice and high,

2:14:24 > 2:14:34settled into it. The poor countries who have to watch those athletes go

2:14:34 > 2:14:37down, always a relief when you see them get it right. This is going to

2:14:37 > 2:14:43be good news.

2:14:45 > 2:14:53The judges are taking an extra couple of seconds. Austria into the

2:14:53 > 2:15:04lead, a great distance from Denifl. Watabe is the best in the world this

2:15:04 > 2:15:09season, five World Cup victories. And another big jump. That keeps

2:15:09 > 2:15:15Japan in touch.

2:15:15 > 2:15:18Japan in touch. Still a smile etched all over his face. A good jump from

2:15:18 > 2:15:23Watabe.

2:15:24 > 2:15:29Watabe. He was a silver medallist last week in the individual event,

2:15:29 > 2:15:32but two days ago with the large hole, he was out of the medals. He

2:15:32 > 2:15:39could not keep pace with Germany on the cross-country skis. He needs a

2:15:39 > 2:15:49big jump to give him a bit of a gap. Japan will slide into second place,

2:15:49 > 2:15:5414 points behind Austria.

2:15:54 > 2:16:0014 points behind Austria. Each point is worth about one second and two to

2:16:00 > 2:16:13jump. He won gold two days ago, Rydzek for Germany.

2:16:13 > 2:16:28Rydzek for Germany. Germany needed that. He won everything in the world

2:16:29 > 2:16:40last year, and he won Olympic gold two days ago. This would be the

2:16:40 > 2:16:46first medal for Germany since reunification. They are the clear

2:16:46 > 2:16:59favourites. And Rydzek delivered when he needed to. 138 metres, 129.3

2:16:59 > 2:17:02points, they are into second because Austria have been so strong and

2:17:02 > 2:17:09consistent. Our final

2:17:16 > 2:17:21jump is normally's Schmid. He almost blew out the landing. Abettors

2:17:21 > 2:17:27distance than before, but not quite as far. -- a better distance. 102

2:17:27 > 2:17:32metres.

2:17:32 > 2:17:38metres. For all the Olympics, his chances have disappeared roundabout

2:17:38 > 2:17:50here because his distance has not been good enough. Norway has a great

2:17:50 > 2:17:54record, Gold medallists in Sochi 2014. Across three was not a part of

2:17:54 > 2:18:06that team. A lot of pressure on him. This will tell us where we

2:18:07 > 2:18:11This will tell us where we stand. Japan have sneaked into third place

2:18:11 > 2:18:17and Norway will have some work to do.

2:18:18 > 2:18:21do. Austria are in the lead after the jumping round. The cross-country

2:18:21 > 2:18:26will come up in a little while, in just a moment we will be able to

2:18:26 > 2:18:32tell you the all-important times that will show you when they will go

2:18:32 > 2:18:35on the cross-country. Austria will go first. After six seconds Germany

2:18:35 > 2:18:43will start, and it looks

2:18:43 > 2:18:47will start, and it looks like the top four will be the ones in

2:18:47 > 2:18:56contention. Austria have the advantage after the

2:18:56 > 2:19:03ski jump, so they will start first in the cross-country. Borer by five

2:19:03 > 2:19:08kilometres cross-country to see who takes the gold medal. That will be

2:19:08 > 2:19:19just after ten o'clock, 1020M you can watch it on the red button. --

2:19:24 > 2:19:26at 10:20am.

2:19:29 > 2:19:30A very good

2:19:30 > 2:19:37A very good morning from here in Pyeongchang, a 13 of the Winter

2:19:37 > 2:19:41Olympics. It has got a little bit chilly out here, the wind has picked

2:19:41 > 2:19:46up and snow is falling. But we have had loads of action to keep us warm.

2:19:46 > 2:19:52Here is what you have missed if you have just joined us. Great Britain

2:19:52 > 2:19:57are out of the men's curling competition. Kyle Smith's rink had a

2:19:57 > 2:20:00play-off today against Switzerland for a place in the semifinals, but

2:20:00 > 2:20:08they went down to a 9-5 defeat.

2:20:11 > 2:20:15they went down to a 9-5 defeat. The Austrian was top of the pile,

2:20:15 > 2:20:18claiming

2:20:18 > 2:20:23Austrian was top of the pile, claiming a gold. Sweden won a

2:20:23 > 2:20:28surprise men's slalom gold. Marcel Hirscher field to finish the first

2:20:28 > 2:20:36run, leaving the Swede top of the podium. Dave Ryding was ninth. Four

2:20:36 > 2:20:42years after her sister won the title in Sochi, Michelle Gisin has the

2:20:42 > 2:20:50gold medal for the downhill combined. USA claimed their first

2:20:50 > 2:21:04gold medal in women's as hockey, after beating Canada.

2:21:04 > 2:21:06after beating Canada. The Court of Arbitration for Sport's anti-doping

2:21:06 > 2:21:14division has announced that the mixed curling bronze medal has been

2:21:14 > 2:21:21stripped from the Russian after testing positive. It was a ninth

2:21:21 > 2:21:25place finish Dave Ryding, a career-best result for him.

2:21:25 > 2:21:26place finish Dave Ryding, a career-best result for him.

2:21:26 > 2:21:28place finish Dave Ryding, a career-best result for him.

2:21:28 > 2:21:33Britain's best result since Martin Bell in 1988 in the downhill.

2:21:33 > 2:21:36Britain's Laurie Taylor

2:21:36 > 2:21:37Bell in 1988 in the downhill. Britain's Laurie Taylor was 26, and

2:21:37 > 2:21:45they both spoke to Chemmy Alcott. Top ten in the Olympics!I'm not

2:21:45 > 2:21:50complaining with that! A solid day. I wish I could have had a little bit

2:21:50 > 2:21:56extra skiing that within me, but in the end ninth is what I could do.

2:21:56 > 2:21:59Watcher plan to have a solid performance, did you feel like you

2:21:59 > 2:22:03could let it go enough?I thought the second run really suited me. I

2:22:03 > 2:22:09made a couple of mistakes that cost me the flow of the course, and I

2:22:09 > 2:22:13know I could have had a bit mode at the same time, but it is the

2:22:13 > 2:22:20Olympics and everyone is feeling the same thing. Ninth is respectable.

2:22:20 > 2:22:24Were you surprised that Kristofferson could not handle it?

2:22:24 > 2:22:29Yes, that is the first time he has been leading after the second round

2:22:29 > 2:22:33and not won. It shows what the Olympics is like and what these

2:22:33 > 2:22:42conditions are like. A quick word about the winner? I will be similar

2:22:42 > 2:22:47age at the next Olympics, but he's a great guy, thoroughly deserved.You

2:22:47 > 2:22:52did really

2:22:55 > 2:22:58did really well, and with Laurie Taylor coming up, it is a great

2:22:58 > 2:23:06team.Yes, it is a great future, I am 31 but I have a lot of life in me

2:23:06 > 2:23:09yet.You're going to be the team leader going into the parallel at

2:23:09 > 2:23:14the end of the Olympics. You have America in the first round. How do

2:23:14 > 2:23:18you feel?It is going to be cool, I can give them a run for the money,

2:23:18 > 2:23:22and I will not be surprised if we can knock them out. We have some

2:23:22 > 2:23:34good skiers, so we will look forward to it. Anything can happen.Laurie

2:23:34 > 2:23:34good skiers, so we will look forward to it. Anything can happen.Laurie,

2:23:34 > 2:23:40the best you have achieved, you're now 26 in the Olympic Games. How do

2:23:40 > 2:23:44you feel? The top 30 was what I was hoping for, and I am happy to get

2:23:44 > 2:23:49through the finish line. A great experience. You showed you can mix

2:23:49 > 2:23:53it with the big dogs. There were sections where you looked so

2:23:53 > 2:24:00comfortable. Yes, I was a bit safe on the second run, but it was cool.

2:24:00 > 2:24:05Happy to get it down. Just needed to be consistent, which is what I'm

2:24:05 > 2:24:11working on.How the butterflies today?Yes, the earlier, that is for

2:24:11 > 2:24:18sure.How was it to be on a team knowing you're with someone at Lake

2:24:18 > 2:24:23Dave Ryding, pushing the boundaries? It is great to watch, so many little

2:24:23 > 2:24:28things he does to just made himself better so I just try to copy what he

2:24:28 > 2:24:36does!And you're going into the team parallel, how do you feel about

2:24:36 > 2:24:41that?We have done some practice on the starts, so I'm sure it will be

2:24:41 > 2:24:46fun anyway, whatever happens. It is the kind of event where anything can

2:24:46 > 2:24:51happen and anything goes.Watching you on the first run, at the bottom,

2:24:51 > 2:24:55you exhilarated and work the speed. The parallel is a similar gradient

2:24:55 > 2:25:06to that.Yes, it is a nice course, so we will see how it goes.

2:25:11 > 2:25:17so we will see how it goes.Go, Team GB! Great stuff. We look forward to

2:25:17 > 2:25:20the Alpine team event on Saturday. We are heading to the Snow Park

2:25:20 > 2:25:26because today was the final of the men's half pipe. An American one,

2:25:26 > 2:25:32two, three in qualifying.

2:25:33 > 2:25:36two, three in qualifying. Just over two years ago one of the competitors

2:25:36 > 2:25:42was told he might not survive after being left in a coma following a

2:25:42 > 2:25:48infection, but he is embracing life. Fellow American David Wise, he

2:25:48 > 2:25:51disappointed yesterday, finishing eighth in the qualifying. Could he

2:25:51 > 2:26:00find his more in the final? Let us find out with are common to the

2:26:00 > 2:26:07team, Tim Warwood on James Woods.

2:26:11 > 2:26:22The Canadian camp will be fizzing, for Cassie Sharp's gold medal a few

2:26:22 > 2:26:26days ago, and now, Noah Bowman, who has the greatest style in the half

2:26:26 > 2:26:35pipe.Liquid skiing, absolutely. And everyone's favourite. Watch him.

2:26:35 > 2:26:51Look at this. A huge 362 start things off.

2:26:54 > 2:27:01This is everything you want to do.

2:27:04 > 2:27:09You can see how confident Noah Bowman is, and the one thing that

2:27:09 > 2:27:22has run lacks is forward spent in. He chooses to only do one setup

2:27:22 > 2:27:32check at the top of seven, and 1080 to finish.

2:27:34 > 2:27:42to finish. 89.4, into the lead for Noah Bowman.

2:27:42 > 2:27:53Noah Bowman. David Wiese, the defending Olympic champion.

2:27:53 > 2:27:55defending Olympic champion. You would say he made a meal of

2:27:55 > 2:27:59qualifying, but he sets here in the quarterfinals, with huge tracks on

2:27:59 > 2:28:11his Arsenal. An enormous which into the left side double 12. Oh, no!

2:28:11 > 2:28:22Almost a setup trip this man. Finding himself in unfamiliar

2:28:22 > 2:28:27territory. You would say he is finding his form.He has come out of

2:28:27 > 2:28:33the gate swinging. Absolutely amazing, and you can see his

2:28:33 > 2:28:44quality. It is insane. It is all good.Coming out of Sherwood Park in

2:28:44 > 2:28:55Canada, the Sochi silver medallist, Mike Criddle.

2:28:55 > 2:28:58Mike Criddle. -- Mike Riddle. One of the older men on the circuit, you

2:28:58 > 2:29:08would say. 31. A huge bag of tricks. Some creative grabs in his trip back

2:29:08 > 2:29:16when he wants to delve deep.

2:29:16 > 2:29:23The classic way he stars, a big left side double 12. Holding it to

2:29:23 > 2:29:35switch, very impressive. Two hands on his skis. Right side double 12.

2:29:35 > 2:29:47And double 900, spin. Beautiful. Look how chill he is. That is the

2:29:47 > 2:29:56epitome of doing less. That is how he landed on the transition. He was

2:29:56 > 2:30:06pointing down the pipe.

2:30:14 > 2:30:19Next to drop, Beau-James Wells, very very good friends with our

2:30:19 > 2:30:24commentator here! There's his dad, he's just seen his brother crash out

2:30:24 > 2:30:30in practice before this, how is he going to be feeling? He's got New

2:30:30 > 2:30:33Zealand in

2:30:33 > 2:30:34going to be feeling? He's got New Zealand on his shoulders and his

2:30:34 > 2:30:41brother on the shoulders. He couldn't compete due to injury,

2:30:41 > 2:30:46Byron qualified for the finals, he was looking great in qualification

2:30:46 > 2:30:51but he went down. It's all up to him now. And I think I will be the

2:30:51 > 2:30:55pressure he's feeling rather than having New Zealand on his back.

2:30:55 > 2:31:01Breakfast time at the house in a few weeks could be easier if he could

2:31:01 > 2:31:05podium here. Flag bearer for New Zealand, dropping switch into hit

2:31:05 > 2:31:13one.That is his signature opener, switch back to pipe 720 and a tail

2:31:13 > 2:31:21grab. He's splitting up the double flares, both ways. We saw that from

2:31:21 > 2:31:31Murray Buchan as well.My goodness! Comes across the line like Superman.

2:31:31 > 2:31:38Up to 520 metres. The double flare, reaches all the way back to tail,

2:31:38 > 2:31:43but also at the end of the curve, we call that a blood. He is keen to be

2:31:43 > 2:31:52happy with that.-- he is going to be happy. Alex Ferreira, the X games

2:31:52 > 2:31:59silver medallist. He has been coming out so strong since day one and he

2:31:59 > 2:32:04has got all the tricks and a technicality to win this. Not even

2:32:04 > 2:32:13kidding, watch him do it.He has one heavy hitting halfback contests. A

2:32:13 > 2:32:20huge 1260 to start.And a double flare 1080, taking to switch. The

2:32:20 > 2:32:28first time we've seen that. There's the other left side double court 12,

2:32:28 > 2:32:40switch, double. He is helicopter in the pole. That feels good to him. We

2:32:40 > 2:32:47talk about the riders are happy, which he clearly is. You can see his

2:32:47 > 2:32:52elation, putting the first run down. As we said before, this halfpipe's

2:32:52 > 2:32:59final is America's Toulouse. If everyone runs it clean, it which

2:32:59 > 2:33:04American will be on top.

2:33:05 > 2:33:13American will be on top.Yes, Alex Ferreira!

2:33:13 > 2:33:21Now, Aaron Blunck. Our first-place qualifier.

2:33:21 > 2:33:30If he's got a receipt for this, now is the time to get it out and redeem

2:33:30 > 2:33:43it.Big 722 studies off, look for his switch right double ten, that

2:33:43 > 2:33:50huge aspect. Double flat spin down the pipe at 900 and right side to

2:33:50 > 2:33:53double 12, my goodness. Just when you thought it didn't get any

2:33:53 > 2:33:59better, Aaron Blunck drops in.For his run, putting those two switch

2:33:59 > 2:34:03doubles back-to-back, that is huge. The judges will lose their mind

2:34:03 > 2:34:07about that.Look how blind it is as well, not even looking where he's

2:34:07 > 2:34:15going, relying really on his Spidey senses. If we can't see his eyes, he

2:34:15 > 2:34:24we -- can't see the landing. That arguably the hardest thing you can

2:34:24 > 2:34:34do, switch down the pipe and he did it back-to-back.Oh, goodness me!

2:34:34 > 2:34:41Well, that score doesn't reflect his reaction.

2:34:43 > 2:34:46reaction. So, the first run looking very good indeed. Alex Ferreira tops

2:34:46 > 2:34:56the spot for USA from Noah Bowman of Canada. The Canadian and the Kiwi

2:34:56 > 2:35:01keeping the American podium clean sweep at bay for now. Next in, Nico

2:35:01 > 2:35:08Porteous, the 16-year-old who had a stellar run and in your eyes,

2:35:08 > 2:35:14probably the best run he's ever had in the pipe.Blinding run on the

2:35:14 > 2:35:18first run and all he could do is improve. He can sit back and be

2:35:18 > 2:35:23confident. He's got a brilliant result on his back, he is so young

2:35:23 > 2:35:33and he has so much more to give. Starting off with something

2:35:33 > 2:35:39different, double cork 1440.First 1440 we've seen in the pipe in the

2:35:39 > 2:35:45final.Backing it up the forward right side double 12, oh, days,

2:35:45 > 2:35:54what's he got? Double alley-oop flat spin nine, perfect! Is huge! The

2:35:54 > 2:36:0116-year-old has delivered like Wayne Rooney his debut.

2:36:01 > 2:36:07Rooney his debut. My goodness, the youngster! He had enough height on

2:36:07 > 2:36:12the VAT. Three and a half rotations. Oh, my goodness! He cannot believe

2:36:12 > 2:36:23it!Nico Porteous is well on his way to upsetting that potential US 1-2-

2:36:23 > 2:36:30three with a huge score, man!If you want to know just how exciting this

2:36:30 > 2:36:34is, James Woods is standing on his seat in the commentary booth! All

2:36:34 > 2:36:39eyes go back to the top, the defending Olympic champion gets the

2:36:39 > 2:36:45sum of enough respect from the start Marshall. His time to turn it on.

2:36:45 > 2:36:50The man who does not take no for an answer when it comes to being taken

2:36:50 > 2:36:55down in the halfpipe. He's a fighter, that's for sure, dropping

2:36:55 > 2:37:03in switch.Dropping in a massive switch, and he's gone!This is

2:37:03 > 2:37:07incredible. I can't believe this is happening to David Wise.The man

2:37:07 > 2:37:12whose Pringles pressure on his breakfast cereal is all of a sudden,

2:37:12 > 2:37:18and his fans are stunned.-- he sprinkles pressure on his breakfast

2:37:18 > 2:37:25cereal.He has clipped the deck. That is how these skis are designed

2:37:25 > 2:37:32to do that, to save your legs in a less savoury crash.

2:37:37 > 2:37:45Torin Yater-Wallace.Put a little bit of fuel on his fire and you will

2:37:45 > 2:37:50see him go mad. Not the first run, he's not sitting where he wants to

2:37:50 > 2:37:57be. He's nowhere near it.Back in 2017, this boy had an infection and

2:37:57 > 2:38:01very nearly died, he was in a coma and he's come out guns blazing since

2:38:01 > 2:38:08then. Look how big that is!Are right double 12 to start things, his

2:38:08 > 2:38:11signature move and everyone seems to be taking it from him. Left side

2:38:11 > 2:38:201080, all the way round, switch, left, right, right, and there it is!

2:38:20 > 2:38:24Double alley-oop, he's got no pipe left!He couldn't land it! He ran

2:38:24 > 2:38:30out of spite. We spoke about it on the run before. He could have got

2:38:30 > 2:38:37another hit in but you will not see a bigger fifth hit today than that.

2:38:37 > 2:38:40He has no business doing that there. And he knows at that point, he can

2:38:40 > 2:38:48see the lip. Oh! Disaster! And that saw, man, that's really, really

2:38:48 > 2:38:57sore. You know smile is? That's, I have got this final in the bag if I

2:38:57 > 2:39:09can figure out how to do it!Alex Ferreira the sixth, in second.A

2:39:09 > 2:39:14surprise position for had to be in, he dropped a massive score, the rest

2:39:14 > 2:39:18of the rest of directors did not land perfect runs, then Nico

2:39:18 > 2:39:26Porteous came down and dropped some incredible fire. Back on the hot

2:39:26 > 2:39:31seat, massive.Keeps his speed into the double 1080 switch. Down the

2:39:31 > 2:39:37pipe, 1080, back-to-back tent, need to wrap it up which she does. Final

2:39:37 > 2:39:45hits.I can't do it!Even better than his first run!For out. Alex

2:39:45 > 2:39:53Ferreira is stepping up to the plate, man.Holy cow! The Harry

2:39:53 > 2:40:02Potter of the halfpipe world, just a wizard through this.Ludicrous. His

2:40:02 > 2:40:10classic helicopter pole. It is an unknown entity, Nico Porteous on the

2:40:10 > 2:40:15top, dropping a run like that. 14 to the two cork chips, gorgeous.

2:40:15 > 2:40:28Something we have never -- two switch hits.Oh, my goodness!Alex

2:40:28 > 2:40:30Ferreira, I think he'll explode if he wins a gold medal. I think

2:40:30 > 2:40:38actually explode.I do know what? The magnitude of this competition, I

2:40:38 > 2:40:46think it just hit Nico Porteous. So the second run, looking like

2:40:46 > 2:40:54this.

2:40:54 > 2:40:58Nico Porteous with a crazy run in second and Alex Ferreira once again

2:40:58 > 2:41:09answers straight back with 96 flat. Nico Porteous, beginning of this

2:41:09 > 2:41:11final, so grateful to be here and he knows he's got the big tricks but he

2:41:11 > 2:41:15doesn't have the experience and the name that a lot of these guys have.

2:41:15 > 2:41:19He comes down these runs and puts down 94 point something which blew

2:41:19 > 2:41:24the field away. And all of a sudden when Alex Ferreira takes the lead of

2:41:24 > 2:41:30him, the world will come crashing down and this competition hits him.

2:41:30 > 2:41:39He's chilling!He's accessing the second run as

2:41:39 > 2:41:40He's chilling! He's accessing the second run is an absolute blinder.

2:41:40 > 2:41:44He doesn't feel he's going to improve so he's just surfing and

2:41:44 > 2:41:52enjoying himself. He says, I will not better that.Interesting move

2:41:52 > 2:42:01from him not taking his third run. But that second run, man! Now, David

2:42:01 > 2:42:07Wise, the defending Olympic champion, the most winningest mail-

2:42:07 > 2:42:15type skiers. No something if you are the best in world? Ask David Wise

2:42:15 > 2:42:19right now. -- are the nerves of thing if you are the best in the

2:42:19 > 2:42:25world? He has won it more than you can think to nudge, switch right

2:42:25 > 2:42:30down the pipe, ten, not as clean, competing in nicely. Left side

2:42:30 > 2:42:39double cork 1260. He's put it down. Switch, left, down the pipe, ten,

2:42:39 > 2:42:48Whiteside 12 to finish the 12 of four, four doubles, boom! Perfect!

2:42:48 > 2:42:53The only thing they can pick out of this run is that very first hit, the

2:42:53 > 2:42:57switch right double 1080. Did he wiggle out of it and not hold the

2:42:57 > 2:43:04grab as long as he could, was it a stress to land it? This was not.

2:43:04 > 2:43:14Under the most amount of pressure! 97.2! The defending Olympic champion

2:43:14 > 2:43:17pulls a proverbial rabbit out of the hat there.

2:43:22 > 2:43:30What can this boy to? Beau-James Wells. He's done everything that he

2:43:30 > 2:43:34has planned to do, in this year leading up to this, he has been

2:43:34 > 2:43:40eyeing up the Olympics for a long time.

2:43:40 > 2:43:44time. He's got a switch double in his arsenal, he has started every

2:43:44 > 2:43:49run with a big switch left down the pipe 720 with a big tail grab and

2:43:49 > 2:43:54lots of style. He does have a switch double in his arsenal, whether he

2:43:54 > 2:43:58will use it right now or try and boost the run that he knows better

2:43:58 > 2:44:06than anyone, to try up upper school, or about to find out. Switch, relief

2:44:06 > 2:44:10fast, -- really fast, switch double down the past, he releases it. This

2:44:10 > 2:44:18is the runner. All he has to do is get straight back into his routine

2:44:18 > 2:44:22that he has been in for a long time. Right side double flare licking

2:44:22 > 2:44:32them. -- linking them. Left double 12. Well done, that man. Talk about

2:44:32 > 2:44:41stepping up and it counts, man.You said it, you knew he had the switch

2:44:41 > 2:44:46double in his arsenal, Nico Porteous gives him a big hug. What a nice

2:44:46 > 2:44:51rotation, that's what we have seen punished Kevin Rolland similar

2:44:51 > 2:45:01terms.No! He hasn't! Fourth-place for him.

2:45:02 > 2:45:05for him. So, Alex Ferreira. I can't even begin to describe how he's

2:45:05 > 2:45:11feeling at the moment. He knows he's second, maybe third Aaron Blunck can

2:45:11 > 2:45:15pick him but he's on the podium. He's definitely going to want to

2:45:15 > 2:45:21punch for the top spot. He's got it done. First after his first run,

2:45:21 > 2:45:27first after his second run, can he be first after his third?

2:45:27 > 2:45:31Improvements in both of his runs. If ever there was a time to rip the lid

2:45:31 > 2:45:37off it, this is it.

2:45:49 > 2:45:55He is running on pure adrenaline. Massive! The TV does not do that

2:45:55 > 2:46:04justice.My goodness! He has knocked it out the park. He strapped into a

2:46:04 > 2:46:11space rocket and sent it into outer space! I have never seen anything

2:46:11 > 2:46:17like that in my life.

2:46:18 > 2:46:21like that in my life. I think he is about to explode because I am not

2:46:21 > 2:46:30sure what will happen is that goes into first. 96.4. Look at that!

2:46:33 > 2:46:36into first. 96.4. Look at that! That is a final to remember. I hope you

2:46:36 > 2:46:40had that recorded because it will take some re-watching to try to

2:46:40 > 2:46:49decipher the code of that. Alex Ferreira takes second. A huge shout

2:46:49 > 2:46:54out to Porteous, but David Wise, the Olympic champion, has pulled the cat

2:46:54 > 2:47:06out of the bag in his third and final run.

2:47:18 > 2:47:22Talk about pulling it out of the bag when it counts. What a final run

2:47:22 > 2:47:32that was. 97.2. Last chance saloon, and he absolutely nailed it. Called

2:47:32 > 2:47:37for the American.

2:47:37 > 2:47:41for the American. We have just seen the ski jump section of the Nordic

2:47:41 > 2:47:48combined, and we now have a little bit of backstage footage. Here is

2:47:48 > 2:47:52how they prepare for the ski jump. If you thought Patrick Swayze had

2:47:52 > 2:48:01the lift

2:48:01 > 2:48:09the lift nailed IN DIRTY DANCING, look at this. Brilliant pictures.

2:48:09 > 2:48:15Something else involving heightened adrenaline, a couple of days ago you

2:48:15 > 2:48:19will have seen the women's half big a snowboarding qualifying. It was

2:48:19 > 2:48:27one of the biggest standards in freestyle snowboarding we have had

2:48:27 > 2:48:31here in Pyeongchang. A sensational standard. Anna Gasser was the

2:48:31 > 2:48:36favourite going in, and she topped the pile heading into the final.

2:48:36 > 2:48:41Three jumps, and the best one p. Let us head to Phoenix Park to see how

2:48:41 > 2:48:49it unfolded with Ed Leigh. Welcome to Alpensia Ski Jumping

2:48:49 > 2:49:05Centre. Today it is the women's snowboard.

2:49:07 > 2:49:14Dropping and switching, going huge!

2:49:14 > 2:49:22Absolutely phenomenal from her. A bit of a wash. Nearly 100 degrees of

2:49:22 > 2:49:28rotation before she takes off. That is the only fault. She is in

2:49:28 > 2:49:43control, 70.5.There are some big tricks coming.

2:49:47 > 2:49:54There is the clipboard of power back in the mix!

2:50:03 > 2:50:15Do you know what the big difference there is?It is the grab. She only

2:50:15 > 2:50:23just got it.

2:50:23 > 2:50:29just got it. She took a gold medal in slopestyle. Jimmy Anderson is the

2:50:29 > 2:50:32most experienced and successful women in freestyle snowboarding

2:50:32 > 2:50:44right now. She is missing none of the big trophies. Just relaxing.

2:50:44 > 2:50:48Should put doubles in her locker of tricks. She has gone straight in for

2:50:48 > 2:50:53the front-end.

2:50:53 > 2:51:00the front-end. -- 510. Look at this! The grab is held. She stomps it just

2:51:00 > 2:51:09after the second line. Lowe that was so nice. So compact. That has to be

2:51:09 > 2:51:14in the 90s.

2:51:17 > 2:51:25in the 90s.The 16-year-old Japanese rider. Jamie Jones was talking to

2:51:25 > 2:51:32her coach,

2:51:32 > 2:51:40her coach, and that they asked what they did to help her. They said they

2:51:40 > 2:51:44do not need to do anything.

2:51:49 > 2:52:04That was amazing. We both just said wow! Look at the grab. It was short.

2:52:04 > 2:52:14Apart from letting go of the grab early, that was clean. So clean.

2:52:15 > 2:52:16early, that was clean. So clean. So Iwabuchi slide behind Jamie

2:52:16 > 2:52:27Anderson.A very good score.From the 16-year-old today 31-year-old

2:52:27 > 2:52:46veteran. She came to snowboarding in 2015, out of snowboard cross.

2:52:55 > 2:53:02She has it on rails. A lot of control.

2:53:03 > 2:53:09control.This is awesome to watch. Fujimori, very pleased with that

2:53:09 > 2:53:19first jump.

2:53:42 > 2:53:49The two Americans will be looking to improve on their second runs.

2:53:55 > 2:54:02Candrian needs this, she fell in the first run.

2:54:17 > 2:54:23A tiny scuff of the hand. She just misses it. She's so close to getting

2:54:23 > 2:54:36it.Look at that, a 1080, and she has one score on the board.

2:54:36 > 2:54:40has one score on the board. Back to the top, Jamie Anderson. She puts so

2:54:40 > 2:54:51much pressure on everyone. What are we going to see from her? This is

2:54:51 > 2:55:01critical.

2:55:05 > 2:55:16How did you hold onto that?I like how she does that, it is very

2:55:16 > 2:55:24different from the other girls, it is like a different rotation.

2:55:25 > 2:55:31Pulling it with the mute grab. Everything compact so far. She's in

2:55:31 > 2:55:44the enviable position of two huge scores under her belt.

2:55:56 > 2:56:03That was amazing!I love this trick, I find this more impressive than the

2:56:03 > 2:56:11frontside, it is massive, beautiful and it is the hardest rotation. And

2:56:11 > 2:56:17she went so highly. You are going backwards turning into the abyss.

2:56:17 > 2:56:22The part at the end of my favourite part. She controls the end

2:56:22 > 2:56:33perfectly. She has the double backflip in there.

2:56:33 > 2:56:41backflip in there. There were go, 92.It is so deserved. The New

2:56:41 > 2:56:48Zealander has a fantastic -- had a fantastic second jump.

2:56:50 > 2:56:53fantastic second jump. Anna Gasser, the Austrian, stands atop the run

2:56:53 > 2:57:08in. 85.5 on the board at the moment.

2:57:13 > 2:57:25It is going to be the back side double Cork. She stomps it! The

2:57:25 > 2:57:33take-off!That was amazing! She so deserves this. She has been able to

2:57:33 > 2:57:38come out and showcase the very best of women's snowboarding, stomping

2:57:38 > 2:57:46two from two. The best combined score from two jumps and she has

2:57:46 > 2:57:50given herself the luxury to go for her very best trick on her third and

2:57:50 > 2:58:00final run. 89? I thought she would have got a lot higher than that.Not

2:58:00 > 2:58:09the biggest jump we have seen, but very close. The consistency and size

2:58:09 > 2:58:14of the jumps from Anderson has been breathtaking. Anna Gasser, only

2:58:14 > 2:58:21three points behind.

2:58:21 > 2:58:22three points behind. That you jump from the New Zealander is in third

2:58:22 > 2:58:31place.

2:58:31 > 2:58:38place. Marry no wonder Candrian can move up with a big third jump. The

2:58:38 > 2:58:52third jump is approaching, and at the moment is -- it is a big battle.

2:58:52 > 2:58:56Silje Norendal is definitely in the running for the bronze medal if she

2:58:56 > 2:59:01can want something big.Definitely, she has a solid 70 point, and can

2:59:01 > 2:59:12put down something in the mid-80s. And she is in third place.

2:59:12 > 2:59:18And she is in third place. She holds her nerve really well. Just watching

2:59:18 > 2:59:23the wind here.

2:59:35 > 2:59:42What was she doing? She has already done a perfect CAB nine, so... That

2:59:42 > 2:59:46was never going to get scored, a really odd decision from Silje

2:59:46 > 2:59:52Norendal. She saw this to be a big scoring jump, and thought she could

2:59:52 > 3:00:04add more to that than the other.A combined score of 131.5. That is

3:00:04 > 3:00:14good enough for fifth at the moment. The frontside 1080 is in the bag for

3:00:14 > 3:00:21Candrian.

3:00:22 > 3:00:36Wonder What's Next? Backside?She's dropping in switch, switch backside.

3:00:36 > 3:00:43Oh, now we have a game on our hands. Switch backside nine. And frontside

3:00:43 > 3:00:481080. Missed the grab again. It looks like she did exactly the same.

3:00:48 > 3:00:56Almost got it.Just cannot get the grabs today but two really big spins

3:00:56 > 3:01:03in there. It's actually lovely. If you look at these rotations in a

3:01:03 > 3:01:12modular cents...A BigHand drag though. They have definitely

3:01:12 > 3:01:23penalised her for that.Jamie Anderson. So, Anderson so used to

3:01:23 > 3:01:27qualifying in first, only made it through in sixth place, so she drops

3:01:27 > 3:01:32in the middle of the pack here. That hasn't stopped her adding the

3:01:32 > 3:01:38pressure to all of the other riders. Her first jump, 90 points, she

3:01:38 > 3:01:43backed it up with 87.25, so she has the luxury of really going for it

3:01:43 > 3:01:50here. The body language isn't quite as relaxed

3:01:50 > 3:01:55here. The body language isn't quite as relaxed. No, maybe she's going

3:01:55 > 3:02:02for something big. We didn't see the little shimmy.

3:02:04 > 3:02:09little shimmy. Cab 1082 the last line! How did she not explode into a

3:02:09 > 3:02:18million that was sick? -- a million pieces! That was sick. She knew she

3:02:18 > 3:02:23had to do that because she knew Anna Gasser would be dropping in after

3:02:23 > 3:02:30her and doing the same trick. That was impressive. So Jamie Anderson

3:02:30 > 3:02:41with that drop has potentially left the door open for Anna Gasser.

3:02:41 > 3:02:50But this is going to be one of the most interesting jumps.

3:02:50 > 3:02:51most interesting jumps. Zoi Sadowski Synnott, having absolutely stumped

3:02:51 > 3:02:58the double backflip and the switch backside 900, can now drop in.

3:02:58 > 3:03:07Frontside? No, wait? Frontside 1080? No one has seen that yet. This is so

3:03:07 > 3:03:14good to watch. There could have been it. At team frontside ten for her

3:03:14 > 3:03:24could have been gold. She only needed and 87 to go into the lead.I

3:03:24 > 3:03:28did not expect that from her, I don't even think I've seen her do

3:03:28 > 3:03:35that or try that before.

3:03:35 > 3:03:39that or try that before. The double backflip was the weak link. I can't

3:03:39 > 3:03:44believe I'm saying that. That puts her in third place. Behind Anna

3:03:44 > 3:03:48Gasser who is yet to drop and Jamie Anderson, who currently occupies the

3:03:48 > 3:04:05gold medal position. Also still to drop is Reira Iwabuchi. She is the

3:04:05 > 3:04:11smallest and lightest in the final. There is a lot of wind up there. We

3:04:11 > 3:04:14will see the backside 1080 again, I'm sure of it. She want it this

3:04:14 > 3:04:22time.So driven and self-motivated. She was pushing to land this

3:04:22 > 3:04:34backside double cork 1080. Too slow. The rotation just wasn't there.

3:04:34 > 3:04:38She's been throwing them so consistently. She'd seen Jamie

3:04:38 > 3:04:41Anderson go and she thought, I'm going massive. She slowed the

3:04:41 > 3:04:44rotation down because of that.

3:04:47 > 3:04:53If she's just gone that little bit bigger. There's only one woman left

3:04:53 > 3:05:00to drop now who can knock Zoi Sadowski Synnott out a bronze medal

3:05:00 > 3:05:10position. Reira Iwabuchi on 147.5.

3:05:19 > 3:05:27Yuka Fujimori, 41 years old.I wonder if we will see the cab 99, or

3:05:27 > 3:05:36French 99? She just got allowable -- front double nine? She just got a

3:05:36 > 3:05:47little bit lost before.Anything in the 90s will boost her right up.

3:05:51 > 3:05:59And she stayed in the rotation way better. She committed to the second

3:05:59 > 3:06:05cork.Over rotated a little bit. Disappointment for Yuka Fujimori.

3:06:05 > 3:06:10She can't land those last two jumps after a beautiful backside 900 on

3:06:10 > 3:06:15her first hit.

3:06:17 > 3:06:22her first hit. A phenomenal performance from Yuka Fujimori. She

3:06:22 > 3:06:30can't land that third run, so it's 122.75 and the 16-year-old New

3:06:30 > 3:06:37Zealander knows that she has a bronze medal. And Jamie Anderson

3:06:37 > 3:06:41knows that she's got at the very least a silver, only this woman can

3:06:41 > 3:06:45move her out of gold medal position. What are we going to see, Jamie?I

3:06:45 > 3:06:53want to see a cab double ten, needs to be big.Switch frontside 1080,

3:06:53 > 3:06:59three full rotations. Rotating with your front opening up the landing.

3:06:59 > 3:07:06Anna Gasser, so consistent, we've seen her land two beautiful jumps

3:07:06 > 3:07:11already today. There hasn't been a moment of doubt or hesitation. Can

3:07:11 > 3:07:20she seal it now? Anderson just looked so relaxed. I'm a bit

3:07:20 > 3:07:22nervous, really nervous.

3:07:30 > 3:07:35Oh, my gosh! This one is coming down to the wire! I didn't think she had

3:07:35 > 3:07:42that. I thought first corkscrew was too vertical. Look at how made up

3:07:42 > 3:07:48she is. We talked about this being the best example, the best

3:07:48 > 3:07:51exposition of women's riding, and look at this. This is what it means

3:07:51 > 3:07:55to them to be able to lay down in perfect conditions on a brilliant

3:07:55 > 3:07:59job. It's the opposite scenario to what we saw in women's slopestyle

3:07:59 > 3:08:07week ago.The pop on that.The style!She went deep as well. That,

3:08:07 > 3:08:13for me...Watch the back leg through the second corkscrew. Hold the grab

3:08:13 > 3:08:23down through.No hands down. 96, I reckon. Highest scoring of the day

3:08:23 > 3:08:27without a doubt.I think that's the most fickle and stylish trick we've

3:08:27 > 3:08:33ever seen in women's snowboarding. -- most technical and stylish trick.

3:08:33 > 3:08:4096, yes!And it is the gold medal. Well-deserved.Very, very

3:08:40 > 3:08:45well-deserved.

3:08:45 > 3:08:48well-deserved. Anna Gasser, just making it into gold medal position

3:08:48 > 3:08:54ahead of Jamie Anderson.Look at those scores!Incredibly bright

3:08:54 > 3:09:00future for the New Zealander Julie Zoi Sadowski Synnott. Reira

3:09:00 > 3:09:03Iwabuchi, the other rocky, down in fourth.

3:09:03 > 3:09:10-- the other rocky. Everybody has to start somewhere. BBC Get Inspired

3:10:00 > 3:10:07and -- there to dream and achieve my dream. It has been a great

3:10:07 > 3:10:10experience so far. What has the Olympic dream been for you, how long

3:10:10 > 3:10:16have you had this dream?Sits over 17 years old, so about 15 years, I

3:10:16 > 3:10:20missed it twice, this is my third strike so I was grateful to get the

3:10:20 > 3:10:25opportunity to be here.All in skeleton?Know, one man three

3:10:25 > 3:10:32sports. I did track and field as a youth, I converted to bobsleigh

3:10:32 > 3:10:37brakeman and now skeleton. It's been a long journey, how hard journey has

3:10:37 > 3:10:40been to get here filing the Olympics? It's been a tough journey,

3:10:40 > 3:10:47I was born in Ghana and grew up in the Netherlands, I was recruited by

3:10:47 > 3:10:59a coach and at the age of 17 I won my first goals, and I believed in

3:10:59 > 3:11:06myself and my coach believed in me. In 2012, I was injured so I could

3:11:06 > 3:11:12not compete. Then Nicola Minichiello recruited me. She thought I could do

3:11:12 > 3:11:22well as the brakeman, so I missed Sochi. I missed that as well. I

3:11:22 > 3:11:25didn't know whether I was going to continue, but I was inspired by

3:11:25 > 3:11:31Nicola and my wife to continue and I was acquitted by Ghana.Nicola is

3:11:31 > 3:11:36with us later on I am sure she is watching. Tellers at about the

3:11:36 > 3:11:41journey about away from H is about the journey away from this board,

3:11:41 > 3:11:47your funding?Yes, and the sole member, the president, accountant,

3:11:47 > 3:11:52all of the above? We have local board members in Ghana as well. I

3:11:52 > 3:11:56had to fulfil my dream by starting on my own, after missing the

3:11:56 > 3:12:01Olympics twice, no company believes someone who missed the Olympics

3:12:01 > 3:12:10twice from Africa going headfirst on ice, so I had to prove it twice so I

3:12:10 > 3:12:13went selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door from a PM to midnight.

3:12:13 > 3:12:19You are wearing the team -- from a PM to midnight. You are wearing the

3:12:19 > 3:12:26team colours of Ghana, how pride are you?I am only the second Winter

3:12:26 > 3:12:31Olympian, the first in skeleton. The opportunity to wave my country is

3:12:31 > 3:12:36emotional. No athletes have really had that opportunity. Any time you

3:12:36 > 3:12:40get to wave the flag, the flag of a country who fought for independence,

3:12:40 > 3:12:44and I was able to wave the flag and inspire people in my country. It was

3:12:44 > 3:12:49a very special moment.I'm sure you inspire people outside of Ghana as

3:12:49 > 3:12:52well. What would you say to anyone watching this too has a dream?First

3:12:52 > 3:12:59of all, it get up, don't get surfing on that couch, get something that

3:12:59 > 3:13:02you're good at, get good people around you, I don't believe in a

3:13:02 > 3:13:09self made man, you surround yourself with people and they will bring you

3:13:09 > 3:13:13up. If failure was the last step, there would not be success, you have

3:13:13 > 3:13:17to fail before you succeed.Your dance has gone viral at the finish

3:13:23 > 3:13:31fever, and the dance. There's not much room has a well make it simple.
