0:00:44 > 0:00:54In Korea, we like games of strategy. We like games that take their time,

0:00:54 > 0:01:02progress slowly but take you under their spell. We like a game called

0:01:02 > 0:01:10go. The oldest board game, played for thousands of years. It's a game

0:01:10 > 0:01:15of stones, probability and calculation. The aim of the game it

0:01:15 > 0:01:25is to place your stones to control a desired territory. But, this isn't

0:01:25 > 0:01:32the only game here that is played with stones. This

0:01:32 > 0:01:40the only game here that is played with stones. This game is hypnotic.

0:01:40 > 0:01:51Superior tactics will ensure you guard against enemy attack.

0:01:51 > 0:01:59guard against enemy attack. Brush your opponents' stones away.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03your opponents' stones away. End your adverse ferries' chances. So

0:02:03 > 0:02:12complex it carries heavy mental weight. In South Korea, we have a

0:02:12 > 0:02:19new love. We love curling.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22CLARE: Patience, endless practice and perfect strategy are some

0:02:22 > 0:02:24of the ingredients that go into making an Olympic champion -

0:02:24 > 0:02:27and when it comes to curling - strategy might be the most

0:02:27 > 0:02:28important.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30It's a huge day inside the Gangneung Curling Centre

0:02:30 > 0:02:34where the semi-finals will decide who goes for gold and who can win

0:02:34 > 0:02:37no better than bronze.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39And the team of Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams

0:02:39 > 0:02:42and Lauren Gray know that this is the key match.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45They were furious to lose out four years ago to Canada and have made

0:02:45 > 0:02:51it their aim since then to put the score right.

0:02:51 > 0:02:57Sweden are the opponents today.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00The semifinal is at 11 o'clock, and we will have it

0:03:00 > 0:03:05live here on BBC One.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08With me to discuss it all, dissect and perhaps explain a few

0:03:08 > 0:03:16things is the Olympic silver medallist from Sochi - Dave Murdoch.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22He skipped his side through this semifinal stage. This has to be the

0:03:22 > 0:03:26tensest day of the lot.Yes, this is the day you've been training for for

0:03:26 > 0:03:33four years. Now it's here, it is upon you. It's a strange day. You

0:03:33 > 0:03:37wake up a bit nervous, a bit excited at the same time. The girls, they've

0:03:37 > 0:03:41got a big day ahead and they need to focus and make sure they keep

0:03:41 > 0:03:46everything simple.Have you been staying up late into the night?

0:03:46 > 0:03:51There's been a lot of that. It's been curling all through the day,

0:03:51 > 0:03:55watching the highlights, and all the other sports. I've really enjoyed

0:03:55 > 0:04:04the Olympic Games.Really sad for Kyle Smith and his

0:04:06 > 0:04:08Kyle Smith and his really young team who were selected to go out there.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10They played exceptionally well, they lost up to the Swiss in their

0:04:10 > 0:04:12tie-breaker. Maybe they might end up being very proud of that

0:04:12 > 0:04:17performance.They should be very proud. It's not easy. They did very

0:04:17 > 0:04:24well. They were actually in control of that game against Switzerland.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27That shot from Ben White Schwartz was probably the shot of the

0:04:27 > 0:04:32tournament. You have to feel for the guy a little bit, it was a tough

0:04:32 > 0:04:38break -- Benoit Schwarz.Switzerland have been in action against Canada.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42Therein mind Canada were knocked out of the women's competition by Great

0:04:42 > 0:04:45Britain and it could be the first time since curling was reintroduced

0:04:45 > 0:04:49into the Olympic programme that Canada walk away without a medal.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53They are trailing as we join it at the beginning of the tenth end. The

0:04:53 > 0:05:00Swiss leading 7-5.

0:05:01 > 0:05:07COMMENTATOR: Canada would have to score two to tie the game.

0:05:07 > 0:05:15Definitely advantage Switzerland.

0:05:25 > 0:05:30Valentin Tanner with the first stone of the tenth end. A match which for

0:05:30 > 0:05:36a long time Switzerland have controlled. They came out at the

0:05:36 > 0:05:41beginning, playing almost flawless curling. They forced Canada to give

0:05:41 > 0:05:47up the steel in the first couple of ends. It was a while before

0:05:47 > 0:05:51Switzerland picked up two in the fourth, then Switzerland responded

0:05:51 > 0:05:55perfectly well. They got themselves into a two shot lead. We've traded

0:05:55 > 0:06:01shots pretty much since the halfway point. Switzerland have always

0:06:01 > 0:06:04looked as though they've got their noses in front. As we come to this

0:06:04 > 0:06:10last end that's exactly how they sit, two ahead. Canada have managed

0:06:10 > 0:06:14to claw it back on a couple of occasions but the Swiss have been

0:06:14 > 0:06:18hanging on, more than anything else. Hammer in the final end, they are

0:06:18 > 0:06:23two behind, they need to score two here and take this into an extra

0:06:23 > 0:06:26end. If that were the case Switzerland would have that hammer

0:06:26 > 0:06:34in an extra end.We rarely see this shot made, trying to push it towards

0:06:34 > 0:06:45the bumper. Needs the faintest of touches.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49touches.Well, that's the first time he's been asked to do that in this

0:06:49 > 0:06:54match, and he misses by a couple of inches. Quite a long way, to be

0:06:54 > 0:07:00honest.Is such a hard shot to play. He couldn't just remove that yellow

0:07:00 > 0:07:10stone. They can't remove opposition's stones from the area or

0:07:10 > 0:07:17it will be replaced.Just explain, we've seen Canada ignore them

0:07:17 > 0:07:24before, why in the last end would you change tactic? It's a good

0:07:24 > 0:07:28question, Steve. They could quite rightly have thrown another stone at

0:07:28 > 0:07:31the top of the eight foot but they are really wary that by putting

0:07:31 > 0:07:39additional stains in play they give Canada the chance to score two or

0:07:39 > 0:07:49even three -- stones. They are going to make Canada worked really hard.

0:07:49 > 0:07:54Just to refresh the situation for you, Canada have never, ever been in

0:07:54 > 0:08:00a bronze medal match. They've ways been in the gold-medal match to

0:08:00 > 0:08:05content about, or the silver. That's the worst they've done, the silver

0:08:05 > 0:08:10in the men's competition. The women not even making it into the final

0:08:10 > 0:08:22four. The men hoping to have some consolation of a bronze medal here.

0:08:22 > 0:08:27If Canada were not to win a medal in these team competitions it would

0:08:27 > 0:08:31have been one of the biggest shocks of the Winter Olympics. The USA

0:08:31 > 0:08:36beating them in the semifinal yesterday.That's not a good shot

0:08:36 > 0:08:42there from Brent Laing. It's summed up the last week for him. This could

0:08:42 > 0:08:52be a gay men do here. -- a gamer Ende.Just to finish off what I was

0:08:52 > 0:08:58saying, after Brent Laing plate that shot it's been a week which has

0:08:58 > 0:09:03ebbed and flowed all the time to Canada. At times they've looked very

0:09:03 > 0:09:07good, the sort of Canadian men's team you would expect to see at the

0:09:07 > 0:09:12Olympics. At other times not playing very well. Kevin Koe on occasion not

0:09:12 > 0:09:18managing to play the sort of shots he is renowned for. This is Peter de

0:09:18 > 0:09:25Cruz, the Swiss skip. They are the team who got past Great Britain in

0:09:25 > 0:09:32the tie-break, and now are edging closer to the bronze medal. A lovely

0:09:32 > 0:09:39shot there from Peter de Cruz.

0:09:39 > 0:09:46shot there from Peter de Cruz.We saw the one who won the bronze medal

0:09:46 > 0:09:54in 2002.Yes, Salt Lake City.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01in 2002.Yes, Salt Lake City. This is really difficult to Canada after

0:10:01 > 0:10:04that missed guard by Brent Laing. They are going to try and

0:10:04 > 0:10:09desperately hide behind something. This yellow stone is really wide out

0:10:09 > 0:10:15but they could get a result out of it. Not this time...All Switzerland

0:10:15 > 0:10:24need to do is keep taking stones out and keep things nice and clear. They

0:10:24 > 0:10:28know Canada, if they keep trading stones, there's not going to be an

0:10:28 > 0:10:32opportunity to Kevin Koe. Looking to try and work something once they get

0:10:32 > 0:10:36down to the last two or three. Claudio Patz has played brilliantly,

0:10:36 > 0:10:40I've been really impressed with him all the way through the tournament.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44Canada will need a bit of help here from Switzerland. They don't have

0:10:44 > 0:10:50anything going at the moment. Canada will have to try and find a way to

0:10:50 > 0:10:57bite a tiny edge of the rings. We saw them employ this tactic

0:10:57 > 0:11:03yesterday against the USA. They are going to try and freeze the end side

0:11:03 > 0:11:09of this yellow stone.

0:11:18 > 0:11:27Lines good!Very difficult situations Canada here. Is going to

0:11:27 > 0:11:32sit on that outside yellow but it really is out there. That's a great

0:11:32 > 0:11:39shot, actually. But Switzerland could try and peel that. The problem

0:11:39 > 0:11:43they have is it just going to run straight towards the one at the

0:11:43 > 0:11:54bottom now. That was a great shot by Canada.

0:11:54 > 0:11:59Canada.Switzerland have come down to have a look. Decide how they want

0:11:59 > 0:12:10to do this. No mistakes here, they've got this close.

0:12:20 > 0:12:28THE TEAM DISCUSS IN FRENCH.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38So they want to come across the other side and not leave a chance

0:12:38 > 0:12:44for double, a bit of a change of thinking there.Yes, I mean, I guess

0:12:44 > 0:12:50Canada could hit their only yellow stains and try and spin a couple

0:12:50 > 0:12:53into the house. They are thinking if they put another one on the eighth

0:12:53 > 0:13:01that Canada will have to work harder to score too.

0:13:12 > 0:13:18Somewhere on BT line here would be ideal the Claudio Patz. -- somewhere

0:13:18 > 0:13:25on the line here would be ideal for Claudio Patz. Perfectly played,

0:13:25 > 0:13:29really. Canada need to decide if they can get a couple of yellows in

0:13:29 > 0:13:38to the house using these ones.Kevin Koe could never have envisaged this

0:13:38 > 0:13:44situation. He's doing his best, they are thinking, they are trying to at

0:13:44 > 0:13:50least create something here. Must get their too. They've only got two

0:13:50 > 0:13:55stones to play after this. Two Swiss stones there, trying to come across,

0:13:55 > 0:14:04bringing them in. Doesn't even get second shot, though. You can here be

0:14:04 > 0:14:11frustration. Sorry, there is a few expletives going around. That is the

0:14:11 > 0:14:15pressure these men are under. Canada are heading towards a situation I

0:14:15 > 0:14:19don't think anyone would have been able to believe. The women's team

0:14:19 > 0:14:23doesn't make it out the Round Robin, and this is beginning to look like

0:14:23 > 0:14:29the bronze medal is going to go to Switzerland. This should be a pretty

0:14:29 > 0:14:36straightforward double here for Benoit.

0:14:44 > 0:14:50Oh, he has only got the one. He has only got one and Canada are still

0:14:50 > 0:14:55alive here in this bronze medal game.Well, the nerves must be there

0:14:55 > 0:14:59for Benoit Schwarz as well. Of course he was nervous in that shop

0:14:59 > 0:15:03they played against Great Britain when they picked up five in the

0:15:03 > 0:15:07night. But we have seen this a couple of times from him, his first

0:15:07 > 0:15:11stone not quite where he wanted to be. But obviously looks good from

0:15:11 > 0:15:19the point of Switzerland, but Canada could have a chance to move all of

0:15:19 > 0:15:26these here. Here he goes. Canada's medal hopes pretty much pinned on

0:15:26 > 0:15:30this stone. He's got another one after this but there is too much red

0:15:30 > 0:15:38there. He needs to shift them. The big swing back from the Canadian

0:15:38 > 0:15:47skip. Can he rescue this situation? Watching intently, it's got a

0:15:47 > 0:15:54chance. It's got a very good chance. But he only gets the two out and one

0:15:54 > 0:15:59still sits there. Switzerland still sit in shot and they could certainly

0:15:59 > 0:16:09move one if not both, certainly get rid of at least one. Now, what does

0:16:09 > 0:16:13he do here?Just hit that one a little bit too much on the inside

0:16:13 > 0:16:18and roles of right side of his own yellow. It's easy to get them both

0:16:18 > 0:16:22moving. It's just whether he can wiggle that top one past the back

0:16:22 > 0:16:29red. It does look like if they play the double then the yellow might

0:16:29 > 0:16:33kind of go between the two reds or at least off the back red and three

0:16:33 > 0:16:41between them.It doesn't matter if he moves his red, if he gets both

0:16:41 > 0:16:44yellows out, it doesn't matter. But what he doesn't want to do is leave

0:16:44 > 0:16:52an easy take out 424 Canada with the last stone.

0:16:56 > 0:17:03last stone. So, Benoit Schwarz, the chance for a bronze medal, an

0:17:03 > 0:17:07Olympic medal against Canada, an unlikely medal. Could this be it? It

0:17:07 > 0:17:14is. He has got them both! That's it. It's the bronze medal for

0:17:14 > 0:17:18Switzerland. Benoit Schwarz comes down the other end. He was going to

0:17:18 > 0:17:23jump in the air. Polite as ever. This Swiss team have conducted

0:17:23 > 0:17:27themselves with the utmost decorum throughout this. They knocked Great

0:17:27 > 0:17:31Britain out, they were well beaten by Sweden in the semifinal but they

0:17:31 > 0:17:34have come up against Canada in the bronze medal match and they were the

0:17:34 > 0:17:42best. They have headed it all the way through and Canada have to say

0:17:42 > 0:17:45the better team won today. Switzerland where the better team

0:17:45 > 0:17:49and they have got the bronze medal. Huge congratulations to the Swiss

0:17:49 > 0:17:54and they really have been a story in this game is. As Kevin Koe walks

0:17:54 > 0:17:58around dejected, Canada will have to do is re-evaluate everything. They

0:17:58 > 0:18:02took the gold in the mixed competition, but in the men's and

0:18:02 > 0:18:09women's, they leave Pyeongchang in nothing -- with nothing.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12nothing -- with nothing. Now, the Swiss, building into these games,

0:18:12 > 0:18:16you have been impressed by them, not a surprise they have got a medal,

0:18:16 > 0:18:20but more of a surprise about Canada? Canada have been such a powerhouse

0:18:20 > 0:18:24for such a long time, running the sport for so long, so for those guys

0:18:24 > 0:18:31not to take a medal from the team events is a huge shock. Not to take

0:18:31 > 0:18:36anything away from Switzerland. You would think actually Kyle Smith and

0:18:36 > 0:18:45the lads would feel, OK, we lost to a pretty good side, actually, and

0:18:45 > 0:18:54that shop that Benoit Schwarz played against Britain in the knife was

0:18:54 > 0:19:02stunning. A little bit different here.Peter de Cruz skips and plays

0:19:02 > 0:19:08the second rocks. He and Ben Wahab Riaz together since juniors. -- he

0:19:08 > 0:19:13and Benoit Schwarz have been together since juniors. Benoit Paire

0:19:13 > 0:19:19is a very quiet guy but very confident when he gets on forms.B

0:19:19 > 0:19:24final is USA against Sweden and actually, USA might be the biggest

0:19:24 > 0:19:29shock.I can't believe the US I are in the final. For them to beat

0:19:29 > 0:19:37Switzerland and Canada, that is just an incredible result and great for

0:19:37 > 0:19:42American curling.Is it good for International curling?It is. It is

0:19:42 > 0:19:50great to see some different figures growing the game. That will be at

0:19:50 > 0:19:576:30am on Saturday morning, if you are up early tomorrow. David, four

0:19:57 > 0:20:01years ago, can you talk me through your thought process before your

0:20:01 > 0:20:04semifinal against Sweden and what you thought about it in terms of how

0:20:04 > 0:20:10important it was in your career? For me, it was such a big event. It was

0:20:10 > 0:20:15my third Olympics. Didn't even think I was going to be in such cheap. Was

0:20:15 > 0:20:21there, came through an incredible tie-breaker, beat Norway to be in

0:20:21 > 0:20:25the semifinal and going up against my big friend Nicholas Dean, knew it

0:20:25 > 0:20:32was going to be a really tough game. We knew we were in for a tough one.

0:20:32 > 0:20:36But I really wanted it. I really wanted it. Our team wanted it and we

0:20:36 > 0:20:40battled through that entire game. The thing was really holding our

0:20:40 > 0:20:45nerve.I loved the scenes afterwards. We will have a look at

0:20:45 > 0:20:54the closing stages of your semifinal four years ago against Sweden.

0:20:54 > 0:20:58The line, so David Murdoch again with the chance for glory, the

0:20:58 > 0:21:02chance to take his team into the Olympic final for a guaranteed

0:21:02 > 0:21:06medal. He needs to draw this into the forfeit. He needs to come past

0:21:06 > 0:21:12the red that the top of the house. It needs to turn. This is a great

0:21:12 > 0:21:19chance. Dave Murdoch may well have done it. He has! The fists Indiana

0:21:19 > 0:21:24and the British crowd are jumping up and down in stands. They have got

0:21:24 > 0:21:29just one match for gold or silver. It is just brilliant and watching it

0:21:29 > 0:21:33again. You probably haven't seen it too many times with the commentary.

0:21:33 > 0:21:40It still gives me goose bumps today. To finally get that medal, having

0:21:40 > 0:21:44missed out in the previous two Olympics, you can see it there just

0:21:44 > 0:21:50how incredible it was.The parallels actually, there are a few of them.

0:21:50 > 0:21:55Eve Muirhead equally at her third Olympic Games, missed out at the

0:21:55 > 0:22:02semifinal stage four years ago. She could only fight for a bronze. So

0:22:02 > 0:22:05her preparation, the fact she has been with the team that she knows

0:22:05 > 0:22:09really well. How much does that team dynamic matter or how much does the

0:22:09 > 0:22:14skip had to do with it?For the girls, I think they have really

0:22:14 > 0:22:20settled into their week much better this time. I am seeing real calmness

0:22:20 > 0:22:24in Eve this week. The fact she has been that and done that with the

0:22:24 > 0:22:28semifinal from last time around, I think that really bodes well for

0:22:28 > 0:22:31Great Britain today and for them to actually achieve their goal. They

0:22:31 > 0:22:35just need to do what they have been doing, keep tight as a unit and have

0:22:35 > 0:22:41a lot of patience. That is the key today. She has played one of the

0:22:41 > 0:22:44shots, I suppose Benoit Schwarz would get top shot of the

0:22:44 > 0:22:52tournament, but

0:22:52 > 0:22:54tournament, but this shot from Eve was a stunner because it was a game

0:22:54 > 0:22:57changing shot as well.It was very tight with the Canadians and this

0:22:57 > 0:22:59was sensational. It was just sensational. Eve lined it up, she

0:22:59 > 0:23:03saw the double on the guards, we see the girls holding the line now, and

0:23:03 > 0:23:07the result she gets from this, to take the two stones off and as well

0:23:07 > 0:23:14to live first and second shot with the T-line, amazing. She is also a

0:23:14 > 0:23:18great golfer and turned down scholarships and the chance to go

0:23:18 > 0:23:24down to American colleges. She is also very good at bagpipes.

0:23:24 > 0:23:31Multitalented.She has not had the easiest time health-wise. She was

0:23:31 > 0:23:34eventually diagnosed with coeliac disease after having problems with

0:23:34 > 0:23:40her digestive system, so that has changed her diet.Yes, there are

0:23:40 > 0:23:44things she has worked on and had to deal with these scenarios. All

0:23:44 > 0:23:47credit to her all really figuring everything out. Even what she has

0:23:47 > 0:23:52done now to be where she is, be more confident and this week the training

0:23:52 > 0:23:55she has done, the guys that have worked with her off the ice to have

0:23:55 > 0:23:58her in perfect physical shape and the same with the rest of the girls.

0:23:58 > 0:24:05How many hours a day would you train as a curler? The guys do so much

0:24:05 > 0:24:09work. The girls will be in the gym lifting weights for two hours every

0:24:09 > 0:24:13day. There may have got their cardiovascular session. Then four or

0:24:13 > 0:24:17five hours on the ice and they are doing that every day. On top of

0:24:17 > 0:24:21that, you travel around the world, in Canada, in Japan, and it really

0:24:21 > 0:24:25takes a lot out of your body. It's a tough career to be a full-time

0:24:25 > 0:24:31athlete.And you do have physical elements, Anna Sloan has a bad knee

0:24:31 > 0:24:36injury.Yes, she tore one of her knee ligaments so had a bad time

0:24:36 > 0:24:40last summer. She had to rebuild her need to get it up to where it is

0:24:40 > 0:24:46now. It's a reward for that to be in great shape and here now, and great

0:24:46 > 0:24:50with the support staff that have allowed that to happen. And they are

0:24:50 > 0:24:55great, great friends, they have a great bond. Quarter past 11, Team GB

0:24:55 > 0:25:00skipped by Eve Muirhead will take to the eyes. If they win this match, it

0:25:00 > 0:25:04would guarantee Great Britain gold or a silver medal at worth and that

0:25:04 > 0:25:10would make -- at worst, and that would make a Great Britain's best

0:25:10 > 0:25:14ever Winter Olympics. So much other sport has been going on and in ice

0:25:14 > 0:25:18hockey, it is reaching crunch stages. Did you see the women's

0:25:18 > 0:25:27final yesterday?I did. I loved it. Well, the men are getting things

0:25:27 > 0:25:33right to the medal stages, so let's get the latest with the semifinals.

0:25:33 > 0:25:37The Czech Republic versus the Olympic Athletes from Russia. The

0:25:37 > 0:25:46first men's semifinal is underway. It is the red of the Czech Republic

0:25:46 > 0:25:55against the white and red sleeves of the Olympic Athletes from Russia.

0:25:56 > 0:26:03I'll pay are pushing hair. There is a chance. They score! -- the Olympic

0:26:03 > 0:26:07Athletes from Russia are pushing here. There is a chance. They score!

0:26:07 > 0:26:13Finally knifing through that back line.

0:26:13 > 0:26:21line. The keeper is beaten. The vision to go back to deserve, you

0:26:21 > 0:26:28can see cap resolve in front, but just an amazing pass. He can't get

0:26:28 > 0:26:38across in time and this shot, upstairs.

0:26:38 > 0:26:42upstairs. Kaprosov, you would probably make the argument he was

0:26:42 > 0:26:45pushed in there. Two teams letting their work be done between the

0:26:45 > 0:26:56whistles, not afterwards.Here

0:26:56 > 0:26:58whistles, not afterwards. Here comes the OAR. Oh, magnificent!

0:26:58 > 0:27:11Magnificent for the OAR team. He leaps up and finds him.A great shot

0:27:11 > 0:27:19in to create this on one. He knows he wants to go back door to that

0:27:19 > 0:27:24defender. It's a little bit bubbly and it lands just perfectly onto the

0:27:24 > 0:27:29tape.The Russians trying to win gold for the first time since 1992.

0:27:29 > 0:27:35They lead as we rejoin it with Ken Simpson alongside Seth.

0:27:41 > 0:27:48Everybody has had time to think about things.

0:27:49 > 0:27:55about things. Time but always have something to say about the game.

0:27:55 > 0:28:05Quite an expressive character. The shot goes through.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09shot goes through. Now another chance. Didn't see much of that. He

0:28:09 > 0:28:21did well. Can the Czech Republic find a way through?

0:28:21 > 0:28:27Right now, it feels like they have forgotten the combination locks and

0:28:27 > 0:28:31they are just spinning and spinning and spinning, hoping somehow they

0:28:31 > 0:28:37will find that magic combination. Great analogy. It is not like it is

0:28:37 > 0:28:42for want of trying. They are having a heck of a time trying to get

0:28:42 > 0:28:53through. The OAR team have done such and amazing job defensively have.

0:28:53 > 0:28:58This could be problem. Great defensive play there to deny him.

0:28:58 > 0:29:07And they go back the other way. Another big deflection and it will

0:29:07 > 0:29:13be just outside the zone. The Czech Republic come again. Too many white

0:29:13 > 0:29:23shirts though.I little slip. This could take advantage. They could

0:29:23 > 0:29:28save.Rebound taken again! Again. Another great opportunity goes

0:29:28 > 0:29:36begging. He tries to go all on his own and he can't get through the

0:29:36 > 0:29:39fourth man. The first three were easy enough. But they are gambling

0:29:39 > 0:29:49now. The Czechs are going all they are going home. -- are going hard or

0:29:49 > 0:29:55going home. A rebound and they will quite enjoy this. Hard hit into the

0:29:55 > 0:30:02wall.Played it well. This is fun right now, back and forth.Rattle

0:30:02 > 0:30:05into the zone, intercepted and turned back. Back he goes. He won't

0:30:05 > 0:30:14get there. Not in time to do anything with this. He turns and

0:30:14 > 0:30:20it's a good save.

0:30:20 > 0:30:24This is great hockey. It's thoroughly absorbing. Is the

0:30:24 > 0:30:36turnover deep inside the zone.Just a bit of indecision there from

0:30:36 > 0:30:43Koukal. He was looking in a completely different direction when

0:30:43 > 0:30:53he made the save.

0:30:54 > 0:31:01O a R are now under seven minutes away from that return to an Olympic

0:31:01 > 0:31:07final -- OAR. Of course it would be the first as OAR but we have to be

0:31:07 > 0:31:14more pragmatic than that. This is a team of Russians competing in a

0:31:14 > 0:31:23different jersey. Too high. That was a heavy, heavy shot. Another chance.

0:31:23 > 0:31:30That goes through. They are giving it everything, the Czech Republic.

0:31:30 > 0:31:38Surely they will get a chance to convert?

0:31:38 > 0:31:43convert? They've worked so hard. They keep going, keep going. With

0:31:43 > 0:31:48the belief that they are going to get a chance at some point. Now they

0:31:48 > 0:31:54come to the middle. That's a soft one.

0:31:54 > 0:31:58one. That will just be anywhere. Get rid. Those tired players will have

0:31:58 > 0:32:08to remain on the ice.You wonder if OAR take their time out right now.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12You've got to give a tip of the cap to the Czech team, they've not let

0:32:12 > 0:32:18up. They've been giving everything they can.

0:32:28 > 0:32:33Great call, Kent. Time out, Olympic Athletes from Russia want to get

0:32:33 > 0:32:38some rest here.It comes back to execution once again. We've seen

0:32:38 > 0:32:45them in this third period, the Czech Republic have been all over this OAR

0:32:45 > 0:32:54team. Koshechkin is so big he doesn't give you a lot of room. You

0:32:54 > 0:32:58almost overcompensate as a shooter. You really try to pick those

0:32:58 > 0:33:02corners.He's trying to discuss the play. He wants the shots coming more

0:33:02 > 0:33:08from the middle. It looks at least like what he's saying is you've got

0:33:08 > 0:33:14to use the area between the circles. That's going to be your highest

0:33:14 > 0:33:24percentage shooting area. The issue is getting the puck for the shots.

0:33:28 > 0:33:33Won by OAR. They had to win it. That helps them so much. They can go for

0:33:33 > 0:33:41a line change. They will head to the bench. The Czech Republic have five

0:33:41 > 0:33:57and a half minutes. Great pass from Erat. Getting it out wide to Kovar.

0:33:57 > 0:34:03A good battle, this one. Now they will work it with Kovar behind the

0:34:03 > 0:34:12net. Tries to push into the space out in front.

0:34:12 > 0:34:14out in front. Kovalchuk just about keeps everybody on-site but there

0:34:14 > 0:34:24wasn't much in it. Czech Republic going to break out.

0:34:33 > 0:34:41Out again by OAR. Two down, you need one to get back and start climbing

0:34:41 > 0:34:48the mountain in a hurry. It is a big, big hole. That they've got to

0:34:48 > 0:34:57get out of here.

0:34:57 > 0:35:00get out of here. 4.24 remaining and OAR doing a terrific job. They are

0:35:00 > 0:35:08doing a wonderful job, keeping the pucks away from the front of their

0:35:08 > 0:35:15net. If you can keep it there from a defence of the perspective you

0:35:15 > 0:35:22aren't going to give away too many scoring chances.

0:35:22 > 0:35:35scoring chances.Face-off, stolen...

0:35:39 > 0:35:50Station to station now with speed. How long -- the whistle-blowers. No

0:35:50 > 0:35:59pressure at the net.

0:35:59 > 0:36:02pressure at the net.Radil did a good job to get the shot away. But

0:36:02 > 0:36:07if he's going to make that save, nine out of 100 times, if there's no

0:36:07 > 0:36:13one there to get the rebound it doesn't push the issue. If you look

0:36:13 > 0:36:16at the OAR defenders, they've done a really strong job of looking after

0:36:16 > 0:36:21him. What is it Czech Republic have got to do over the next few minutes?

0:36:21 > 0:36:25They seem to have the most success when it's off the rush. When they

0:36:25 > 0:36:31get it down in the OAR zone... Look at that, five jerseys surrounding

0:36:31 > 0:36:35Radil there. No wonder they aren't going to get much of an opportunity.

0:36:35 > 0:36:40If they can continue to come up with speed that terrific. Now you've just

0:36:40 > 0:36:46got to start getting everything towards the Olympic Athletes from

0:36:46 > 0:36:51Russia net.

0:36:51 > 0:36:56Russia net. Big face-off here as well. Russia has been very, very

0:36:56 > 0:37:00good in the defensive zone when it's come to winning face-offs. Puck

0:37:00 > 0:37:07possession is very much here. The Czech Republic will have their place

0:37:07 > 0:37:13at top. Looking for a quick shot.

0:37:21 > 0:37:29It goes to the side walls, Erat just about gets it through. Now a

0:37:29 > 0:37:34chance... Erat denied.

0:37:36 > 0:37:38chance... Erat denied. A dropped stick cost them zone time. The Czech

0:37:38 > 0:37:44Republic have got to go back into their own zone, deep into their own

0:37:44 > 0:37:49zone.

0:37:49 > 0:37:56zone. Total commitment here from OAR to the cause. Back it comes out in

0:37:56 > 0:38:09front. Koshechkin again is there.

0:38:12 > 0:38:20Back to the top it goes... Saved again by Koshechkin. It came off his

0:38:20 > 0:38:26legs. And it cleared away. Under three minutes to go. How much longer

0:38:26 > 0:38:33do they leave it?

0:38:33 > 0:38:39do they leave it? Good play again by the OAR.

0:38:39 > 0:38:46the OAR. He goes for a line change. It's pretty much thank you, I've

0:38:46 > 0:38:51done my bit, I'm going to take my seat. That may be his last shift in

0:38:51 > 0:38:57the game.

0:38:57 > 0:39:01the game. Great job this by OAR. Keeping it deep. Maybe now they can

0:39:01 > 0:39:07get the stretch pass into the zone, with dip in there. Huge hit coming.

0:39:07 > 0:39:16Defensive play there.

0:39:17 > 0:39:20Defensive play there.Back on the blue line. Can they use the

0:39:20 > 0:39:25numerical advantage to get six on five? They need one quickly here?

0:39:25 > 0:39:33They've given possession away. They've got men through...

0:39:33 > 0:39:39Koshechkin never saw that. Missed the net by a mile. OAR can clear and

0:39:39 > 0:39:49get it down the ice. Tight into the red line. Telegin putting the

0:39:49 > 0:39:56pressure on. 90 seconds remain. The Czech Republic will go after this

0:39:56 > 0:40:02one.

0:40:02 > 0:40:14one. Pushed towards the net again. Good reach. Offside here.

0:40:16 > 0:40:19Good reach. Offside here.Datsyuk Knocked that puck out of the air.

0:40:19 > 0:40:24Incredible, incredible player. No time out for the Czech Republic.

0:40:24 > 0:40:32They lost it contesting the first OAR goal.Down to 73 seconds. They

0:40:32 > 0:40:41say this was chipped out by Datsyuk and hit the Russian bench. So it's a

0:40:41 > 0:40:48face-off deep in OAR territory. A big score here for the Czech

0:40:48 > 0:40:58Republic.The net will remain empty. Something for OAR to have a go at.

0:40:58 > 0:41:0773 seconds away. From the gold-medal match. They'll face the winner of

0:41:07 > 0:41:18this match either Germany or Canada. Is there one last twist? Here they

0:41:18 > 0:41:26have it on the blue line.

0:41:26 > 0:41:29have it on the blue line. Erat Is trying to find space. Another

0:41:29 > 0:41:33attempt on goal. It stopped out front. They can't get any quality

0:41:33 > 0:41:39here. It's so scruffy, they are under so much pressure. Trying to

0:41:39 > 0:41:43bank it off the back of Koshechkin. Desperate times from the Czech

0:41:43 > 0:41:53Republic and OAR, as the Russians send it down the ice. Here comes the

0:41:53 > 0:42:01captain Erat. Closed down by five. OAR are going to escape to victory

0:42:01 > 0:42:08here. They may cap it with a final goal! They do. The empty net which

0:42:08 > 0:42:18sets OAR to the final. -- sends OAR to the final. They are going to play

0:42:18 > 0:42:23for Olympic gold for the first time in 20 years. The Czech Republic have

0:42:23 > 0:42:33put up a valiant fight, but at the end of

0:42:33 > 0:42:37end of the day Kovalchuk and the Russians are just too clinical. They

0:42:37 > 0:42:44will march on to the final in some style. The Czech Republic pushed and

0:42:44 > 0:42:49pushed, and they gave it their all. Look at the emotion from Kovalchuk

0:42:49 > 0:42:59there. You can see how important this is for this Olympic

0:43:00 > 0:43:04this is for this Olympic from -- OAR team. Ultimately the Czech Republic

0:43:04 > 0:43:09couldn't break through the OAR defence. A terrific game from OAR.

0:43:09 > 0:43:22They scored when they needed to and they shut the door from there.

0:43:25 > 0:43:31Cleared away, as the countdown is on in the arena. CHEERING

0:43:31 > 0:43:44Q Russians celebrations. A country disgraced in Sochi four years ago. A

0:43:44 > 0:43:48hockey team that was disgraced with their performance on the ice four

0:43:48 > 0:43:54years ago. If this is the redemption tournament, this group of Russians

0:43:54 > 0:43:59proudly will take on the chance for gold, despite the fact the name on

0:43:59 > 0:44:05the front of their jersey says OAR. Make no mistake, this will be Russia

0:44:05 > 0:44:15versus either Canada or Germany in the final.A remarkable hockey game.

0:44:15 > 0:44:21Like we said, hats off to the Czech Republic. They gave them some

0:44:21 > 0:44:29serious push back. There was high emotion, high energy. At the end of

0:44:29 > 0:44:37the day the OAR team just too good.

0:44:43 > 0:44:51MUSIC

0:44:59 > 0:45:14Come on, baby.Yes!Come here, brother.Keep calm and curl on.

0:45:14 > 0:45:17Come on, baby.Yes!Come here, brother.Keep calm and curl on.

0:45:17 > 0:45:21Staying calm may well be the challenge, not just for all of us

0:45:21 > 0:45:27tuning in to see how the semifinal goes for Great Britain, but also for

0:45:27 > 0:45:31the crowd in there because the other semifinal is Korea versus Japan, the

0:45:31 > 0:45:35have a feeling it will be very noisy. But victory for the British

0:45:35 > 0:45:40women would see them through to the gold medal match. Let's remind you

0:45:40 > 0:45:47of how close they are as a unit. The lead Lauren Gray, she plays the

0:45:47 > 0:45:51first stone, followed by Vicki Adams and then Anna Sloan, who has

0:45:51 > 0:45:56recovered from her knee problems, and then the skip with the honour of

0:45:56 > 0:46:00the final stone is Eve Muirhead. They are getting themselves ready.

0:46:00 > 0:46:04They well have done there, they do a draw, don't they? For the semifinal,

0:46:04 > 0:46:13it has been predetermined. Because Sweden finished above Britain, they

0:46:13 > 0:46:18well have last stone in the first end. But they have time to practice,

0:46:18 > 0:46:20make sure the stones they are playing with our all they thought

0:46:20 > 0:46:25they would be and how much they curl. They can settle into the game

0:46:25 > 0:46:30ahead.They have met many times, Sweden and actually Scotland,

0:46:30 > 0:46:35because more often they play Scotland in the European and World

0:46:35 > 0:46:38Championships, a very tight head to head between them. 21 times they

0:46:38 > 0:46:45have met.Yes, they have battled a lot. That is what happens when you

0:46:45 > 0:46:50play week in, week out around the world. Eve has played a lot of times

0:46:50 > 0:46:55and recently this season, they have played in a lot of finals and

0:46:55 > 0:46:58actually has the word has had the advantage in those finals and they

0:46:58 > 0:47:05have not finished the game off. Eve has battled against the Swedes and

0:47:05 > 0:47:08when the pressure has been on, she has turned the screw and got the

0:47:08 > 0:47:22win.It is like a Rafah Roger head-to-head, 1110 Eve leads. Let us

0:47:22 > 0:47:28have a look at the standings. Rhona how we says that even's strength is

0:47:28 > 0:47:32that the more important it is, the more pressure there is, the better

0:47:32 > 0:47:37Eve blaze. South Korea where the big surprise package. They went through

0:47:37 > 0:47:41top of the greed and they are playing Japan at the same time as

0:47:41 > 0:47:50Great Britain

0:47:51 > 0:47:57Great Britain take on Sweden. Steve Cram is out there for us.This is

0:47:57 > 0:48:01exactly where Eve and her team want to be. The way this has turned out,

0:48:01 > 0:48:05none of us could have envisaged the final four. Without Canada, first of

0:48:05 > 0:48:12all. Sweden and Great Britain were always expected to be in there.

0:48:12 > 0:48:17Japan and Korea are on as well, but we will be concentrating on Sweden

0:48:17 > 0:48:24and Great Britain. The boys are here to support the great British ladies.

0:48:24 > 0:48:28As Dave Murdoch was saying, Eve seems to have the knack when it

0:48:28 > 0:48:32really matters in the big finals against Anna Hasselborg, so

0:48:32 > 0:48:38hopefully this will be a case in point. As far as the men are

0:48:38 > 0:48:40concerned, are they in better spirits? They looked so dejected

0:48:40 > 0:48:49with you yesterday.Yes, you know, I think when you get towards the

0:48:49 > 0:48:52business end of any competition and you have the opportunity to get into

0:48:52 > 0:48:58a medal match and then that opportunity passes you by, it is

0:48:58 > 0:49:01gut-wrenching. If you are not playing well and you are getting

0:49:01 > 0:49:05halfway through and it is not going well, fair enough, but for the

0:49:05 > 0:49:09British men, they had it in the hands to get through. A win against

0:49:09 > 0:49:13the USA would have done it. Of course, the USA went on to do

0:49:13 > 0:49:17brilliantly well and we have just seen today Canada getting knocked

0:49:17 > 0:49:21out by USA yesterday and then coming away with nothing themselves today.

0:49:21 > 0:49:27Whatever your level of expectation, not getting the result you want is

0:49:27 > 0:49:31gut-wrenching. It's been a competition full of surprises, none

0:49:31 > 0:49:35more so than that match which we have just seen. So I am hoping,

0:49:35 > 0:49:39really hoping like everyone else, that there are no surprises with

0:49:39 > 0:49:43this semifinal and that the GB women can do the job. Those closing stages

0:49:43 > 0:49:48of the bronze medal match between the Swiss and Canada, as you say,

0:49:48 > 0:49:52the big shock is that Canada come away with nothing other than their

0:49:52 > 0:49:56gold in the mixed competition, but the Swiss, my word, they have been

0:49:56 > 0:50:03just devastatingly good, haven't they?They have been very good.

0:50:03 > 0:50:06Again, a bit of an odd competition for them, because they looked as

0:50:06 > 0:50:11though they were sailing towards qualification, then a couple of

0:50:11 > 0:50:16hiccups at the end of the round robin. It meant they ended up in a

0:50:16 > 0:50:19play-off against Great Britain but they played really well though,

0:50:19 > 0:50:28especially Benoit Schwarz with that shot in the ninth. Canada can't have

0:50:28 > 0:50:33any complaints about the way this result went, because Switzerland

0:50:33 > 0:50:35were absolutely brilliant, particularly Claudio Patz and Benoit

0:50:35 > 0:50:39Schwarz. They were making their shots all the way through, putting a

0:50:39 > 0:50:42lot of pressure on Kevin Koe. There is a lot of talk granted through

0:50:42 > 0:50:49this match has finished, an inquest with questions asked in the house

0:50:49 > 0:50:56back in Canada as to what has happened to their curling teams. Two

0:50:56 > 0:51:02of them had won a gold before. Maybe they're just wasn't... Maybe they

0:51:02 > 0:51:05hadn't gelled together as a team in the way you would have wanted them

0:51:05 > 0:51:11to. Most of what is being said is that Canada have exported curling to

0:51:11 > 0:51:16the rest of the world in a way that is now coming home to roost. They

0:51:16 > 0:51:19have lots of coaches working in teams in different parts of the

0:51:19 > 0:51:25world and their stranglehold on the number of medals they have one, as

0:51:25 > 0:51:30he can see that, is not something they can rely on in the future.

0:51:30 > 0:51:33Actually, one of those Canadian coaches is Glenn Howay to have come

0:51:33 > 0:51:41over specifically to coach the women and Eve. -- Glenn Howerd. Oh, I

0:51:41 > 0:51:49think we have lost him.Sorry, I temporarily lost you there.Don't

0:51:49 > 0:51:53worry, I have got Dave Murdoch here with me and as Steve Cram was

0:51:53 > 0:51:58saying, the export of talent from Canada as well as the profile of the

0:51:58 > 0:52:01game rising, particularly with Japan and Korea being in the other

0:52:01 > 0:52:05semifinal, the first Asian team to go into a gold medal match at the

0:52:05 > 0:52:10Winter Olympics, has there been a bigger stick because the great

0:52:10 > 0:52:16British women knocked out Canada with a Canadian page?It will be

0:52:16 > 0:52:24interesting, when Ted. -- with a Canadian page? It will be

0:52:24 > 0:52:31interesting, when Ted? They are beating their own with a lot of

0:52:31 > 0:52:36Canadian coaches now around the world.Particularly with Scottish

0:52:36 > 0:52:39curling, a lot of money has been invested into the new national

0:52:39 > 0:52:44Curling Centre in sterling. You are based bad it is something you can

0:52:44 > 0:52:50see?It is something we needed for a long time. It has allowed us to go

0:52:50 > 0:52:55around the world and be great full-time athletes. We have great

0:52:55 > 0:53:00ice conditions, we have some great analysis equipment that we can use

0:53:00 > 0:53:05day in, day out to make us a better team, better players, and now that

0:53:05 > 0:53:10we have some dedicated ice, we can really bring our next-generation

0:53:10 > 0:53:15three and get success because of that. Can you it already, younger

0:53:15 > 0:53:21players coming in and being engaged? I can, actually. We have got a great

0:53:21 > 0:53:24programme going on in British curling and we have got a great

0:53:24 > 0:53:27young generation coming through. That is so exciting to be part of

0:53:27 > 0:53:30and with this new facility, hopefully we can get the medals that

0:53:30 > 0:53:35come with it.Lot of people will be watching this and saying, what about

0:53:35 > 0:53:40you? Is there another Winter Olympics in you? Would you consider

0:53:40 > 0:53:47the mixed competition?Who knows, Claire. I retired last year and have

0:53:47 > 0:53:52moved into coaching and am really enjoying what I'm doing, but never

0:53:52 > 0:53:57say never. No, absolutely not. We will move to figure skating in a

0:53:57 > 0:54:02moment but a reminder there is continuous action on the red button

0:54:02 > 0:54:12with the men's speed skating 1000 metre final. But overnight, the

0:54:12 > 0:54:16women's competition was decided in the figure skating. This is always

0:54:16 > 0:54:22beautiful, and often features young girls being seen for the first time.

0:54:22 > 0:54:26Let's remind you of the great names who have won it in the past before

0:54:26 > 0:54:28we see last night's action.

0:54:37 > 0:54:41A steady, strong and powerful skater.

0:54:45 > 0:54:50Superb spin, right on the spot.

0:54:55 > 0:54:58She's a lovely skater, there is no doubt about that.

0:55:03 > 0:55:10She has almost everything. She has style, technique, Grace.

0:55:13 > 0:55:19style, technique, Grace. Well, she is obviously happy.

0:55:19 > 0:55:32The youngest ever to stand in first place as an Olympic figure skater.

0:55:33 > 0:55:36The favourites have been beaten by their 16-year-old. It has happened

0:55:36 > 0:55:45again.From this spread Eagle will be double axel, triple toe loop. Oh,

0:55:45 > 0:55:53exquisite. Yes!

0:55:53 > 0:56:01Get on your feet, everybody, that was superb.

0:56:01 > 0:56:02And Olympic gold medallist Jayne

0:56:02 > 0:56:02was superb. And Olympic gold medallist Jayne

0:56:02 > 0:56:07Torvill joins me now.

0:56:10 > 0:56:12Torvill joins me now. Islam we saw there who lit the flame at the

0:56:12 > 0:56:15opening of the Olympics --

0:56:25 > 0:56:28Yuna Kim we saw there who lit the flame at the opening of the

0:56:28 > 0:56:35Olympics. Do you have a favourite?I think for me it was Katarina Witt,

0:56:35 > 0:56:41because she was of our generation and she was just beautiful. It makes

0:56:41 > 0:56:46a difference when you are watching, you can watch someone doing jumped

0:56:46 > 0:56:50after jump and spins and so on but if they do not have the performance

0:56:50 > 0:56:54inside them, you don't get that. What was unusual with Tara Lipinski

0:56:54 > 0:57:01was that from such a young age, she was a great performer as well as

0:57:01 > 0:57:06doing all the amazing technical stuff. We have had John Curry and

0:57:06 > 0:57:10Robin Cousins winning medals, we have you and Chris in ice dance. Has

0:57:10 > 0:57:15there been a British woman who might have been able to get to the top?I

0:57:15 > 0:57:23think before our time, we had a very strong competitor called Jean Scott.

0:57:23 > 0:57:27Angie, from memory, I think she was way up there in the medals in the

0:57:27 > 0:57:31World Championships, but I'm not sure how she did in the Olympics.

0:57:31 > 0:57:35It's funny, isn't it, the Americans and the Russians seem to have

0:57:35 > 0:57:38endless conveyor belt of really good girls coming through and yet it

0:57:38 > 0:57:41doesn't really happen in other countries with quite the same

0:57:41 > 0:57:46regularity.I think we are a little behind in this country with getting

0:57:46 > 0:57:50the youngsters in at an early age and getting them into a programme,

0:57:50 > 0:57:53planning years ahead which is obviously what the other countries

0:57:53 > 0:58:00are doing. And the Russians are absolutely dominating the

0:58:00 > 0:58:06leaderboard in this programme. After the short programme, two athletes

0:58:06 > 0:58:10from the Olympic Athletes from Russia at the top, Alina Zagitova

0:58:10 > 0:58:15and the girl who has been her inspiration, at any Medvedeva. Which

0:58:15 > 0:58:27one of them would come out on top? It was a fabulous competition.

0:58:28 > 0:58:32So, Satoko Miyahara, the Japanese national champion, currently lying

0:58:32 > 0:58:38in fourth place by just three points behind Kaetlyn Osmond in the bronze

0:58:38 > 0:58:43medal position and she rotates these jumps at a rate of knots. She is

0:58:43 > 0:58:47just a blur flying through the air and she definitely has what it takes

0:58:47 > 0:58:50to make up that gap and put herself on the podium.

0:58:55 > 0:59:00There was some question over whether her triple triple combination and

0:59:00 > 0:59:04her triple jump in the short programme should have been

0:59:04 > 0:59:08downgraded. She will want to make sure that she gives them no choice

0:59:08 > 0:59:13today.

0:59:14 > 0:59:18today. Triple loop is fully cleanly rotated, no question there. But it

0:59:18 > 0:59:24is this triple Lutz, triple toe loop, nation that will be the first

0:59:24 > 0:59:32real test. -- triple toe loop combination that will be the first

0:59:32 > 0:59:44real test. Clean for me. But review will see.

0:59:44 > 0:59:49MUSIC

0:59:49 > 0:59:54Good on the flip.

1:00:17 > 1:00:24Lovely to see spinning in both directions. Again, we don't see that

1:00:24 > 1:00:30enough in figure skating these days.

1:01:35 > 1:01:42Big jumping pass coming now, treble lutz. Double toe loop, double loop.

1:01:42 > 1:01:47She's done it.

1:01:57 > 1:02:04Double Axel, triple toe loop.

1:02:11 > 1:02:22And the triples Salchow.

1:02:36 > 1:02:45And the last jumper, the double Axel.

1:02:51 > 1:03:04Beautiful position for the lay back. And absolutely on the spot for the

1:03:04 > 1:03:07spin.Satoko Miyahara chasing down the middle positions and she

1:03:07 > 1:03:13couldn't have asked for any more from that performance. From what I

1:03:13 > 1:03:17could see, absolutely clean on the triples. It will of course go to

1:03:17 > 1:03:24review. She does rotate so fast, not a lot of height or flight. But she's

1:03:24 > 1:03:30just a little bitty thing! You wonder where she gets it from?

1:03:30 > 1:03:34CHEERING Satoko Miyahara with a new season's

1:03:34 > 1:03:40best to take the lead. She is the one to chase down in this final

1:03:40 > 1:03:45group of six skaters.

1:03:45 > 1:03:51group of six skaters. The oldest skater in the contest, 31 years old,

1:03:51 > 1:04:00Sochi bronze medallist. She's a little off the pace. 73.15 saw her

1:04:00 > 1:04:05qualify in sick. I think a medal will be out of the question had

1:04:05 > 1:04:11Carolina Kostner of Italy.

1:04:39 > 1:04:49Clean in, first jump. Got that triple lutz.

1:04:59 > 1:05:11Off on the triple flip. Needed that to be the combination.

1:06:18 > 1:06:30Tight on the landing of that triple toe loop. No combinations as of yet.

1:06:34 > 1:06:39Double Axel loop, triple Salchow. Question the landing of that

1:06:39 > 1:06:54Salchow. I think it was clean but had absolutely no edge at all.

1:08:21 > 1:08:23Uncharacteristically error strewn from Carolina Kostner of Italy. She

1:08:23 > 1:08:32needs every trick in her bag to keep up with the young guns. They can't

1:08:32 > 1:08:38really keep with her experience and performance manner and style, but

1:08:38 > 1:08:41she needed those triple combinations, of which we didn't see

1:08:41 > 1:08:50any. She got the triple lutz back this season. That was the one thing

1:08:50 > 1:08:58that did work, very tentative with a view of the other landings.

1:09:04 > 1:09:11139.29 four Carolina Kostner. She sits in second place behind Satoko

1:09:11 > 1:09:17Miyahara of Japan. An exquisite skate from the Japanese means she's

1:09:17 > 1:09:24still out in front. Here she is, she set a new short programme world

1:09:24 > 1:09:29record two days ago. This long programme helped the OAR to the

1:09:29 > 1:09:36silver medal in the team event. This is Alina Zagitova, the young

1:09:36 > 1:09:40pretender, the gold within her grasp. Does she have what it takes

1:09:40 > 1:09:50to bear the pressure on those 15-year-old shoulders?

1:10:26 > 1:10:31You don't look for the big jumps to be coming early in this performance.

1:10:31 > 1:10:40The later they come, you do get bonus points. Alina Zagitova

1:10:40 > 1:10:44backends her programme with all her technical jumping elements. It is

1:10:44 > 1:10:49the choreographic sequence and the spins and the step sequence that

1:10:49 > 1:10:55will come first. All about maxing out those points.

1:11:57 > 1:12:02That would have been the triple lutz triple loop combination, just taking

1:12:02 > 1:12:11the lutz there. How well does she think on her feet?

1:12:11 > 1:12:23think on her feet? Double Axel, triple toe loop.

1:12:27 > 1:12:31Triple flip, double toe loop, double loop.

1:12:44 > 1:12:48The second triple lutz will come now, and it has to be in a

1:12:48 > 1:12:56combination, and she will want it to be with the triple toe loop.

1:12:56 > 1:13:02be with the triple toe loop. No, she'll do it with a triple loop.

1:13:11 > 1:13:19And the triple flip.

1:13:38 > 1:13:43CHEERING

1:13:43 > 1:13:49It looked for a second like Alina Zagitova had been the first blink in

1:13:49 > 1:13:54this race is the gold, that missed combination at the start, but she

1:13:54 > 1:14:00thought on her feet.It didn't have the perfect landing on that triple

1:14:00 > 1:14:06lutz, although she has been given positive grades of execution on it.

1:14:06 > 1:14:14Yes, she came back, has exactly the same content as was planned, just

1:14:14 > 1:14:19not necessarily the order she would have liked to deliver it.I don't

1:14:19 > 1:14:25suppose it matters which order it comes out, as long as it sets cute

1:14:25 > 1:14:30it -- as long as it is executed as beautifully as she did it. It is not

1:14:30 > 1:14:41a new season's best, it's not a new world record.

1:14:41 > 1:14:44world record. 239.57 is the combined total. Beat that and you'll be in

1:14:44 > 1:14:51for a gold medal.And the door is open.

1:14:55 > 1:15:07Kaetlyn Osmond, the World Champion silver medallist last time round.

1:15:08 > 1:15:08Just

1:15:08 > 1:15:20Just 4.27 points behind Medvedeva in the silver medal position.

1:15:29 > 1:15:33She had a glorious performance in the short programme, many thought

1:15:33 > 1:15:38under marked in terms of component scores. Certainly technically she

1:15:38 > 1:15:42delivered. Can she do it today? There are the triple flip and triple

1:15:42 > 1:15:51toe loop. Exquisite.

1:16:01 > 1:16:08Double axel, triple toe loop. Fast, light, easy. Keep this momentum

1:16:08 > 1:16:13going, please.

1:16:23 > 1:16:32Overcooked the take-off of the triple Lutz, stepped out.

1:17:25 > 1:17:33Good on the triple loop. Needed that. And she also needs the second

1:17:33 > 1:17:37triple flip. Only one triple Lutz in this programme planned, so every

1:17:37 > 1:17:41triple will need to be perfect from now on.

1:17:48 > 1:17:53And there you go.

1:18:03 > 1:18:09Triple Salchows, double toe loop, double loop.

1:18:16 > 1:18:26Last of her jumps, double axel.

1:19:14 > 1:19:19CHEERING

1:19:25 > 1:19:32Canada's black swan flying in for a place on the podium.Just that one

1:19:32 > 1:19:47tiny mistake, falling out of the landing of the triple Lutz, but,

1:19:47 > 1:19:55goodness me...She had a lead going into this free skate after the short

1:19:55 > 1:20:00programme, about three points ahead of the Togo Miyahara, the Japanese

1:20:00 > 1:20:06skater in fourth position. So she has a very, very slight advantage to

1:20:06 > 1:20:14play with. Oh, it's up to second. It's a season 's best. A massive

1:20:14 > 1:20:21season 's best. Ten points better than her previous mark and Kaetlyn

1:20:21 > 1:20:29Osmond holds onto that bronze medal position, fends

1:20:29 > 1:20:33position, fends of the challenge of a Satoko Miyahara of Japan. She has

1:20:33 > 1:20:42guaranteed herself a medal with that performance. And here is our last

1:20:42 > 1:20:46performer at this Olympic Games and what a way to close the show,

1:20:46 > 1:20:56Evgenia Medvedeva, two-time world champion, the favourite for so long

1:20:56 > 1:21:03to take this title. Broke the world title -- broke the world record in

1:21:03 > 1:21:09the short programme, just to have it snatched back by Zagitova. So,

1:21:09 > 1:21:20skating for the title that for two years was destined to be hers.

1:21:20 > 1:21:27years was destined to be hers. Anna Karenina is the soundtrack.

1:21:41 > 1:21:51Triple flip, triple toe loop to open.

1:21:58 > 1:22:14And there is the lots. -- the Lutz.

1:23:15 > 1:23:24Strong second triple flip.

1:23:26 > 1:23:33And a beautiful triple loop.

1:24:13 > 1:24:20That's it. Triple Zarco, triple toe loop. Just one more double axel. --

1:24:20 > 1:24:24triple Salchows, triple toe loop. Just one more double axel and the

1:24:24 > 1:24:32jumps are done. This is your gold medal winning performance. She is

1:24:32 > 1:24:38absolutely on the money.

1:25:17 > 1:25:23It's marvellous from Medvedeva again! Not ready to relinquish her

1:25:23 > 1:25:30crown, the double world champion still the very, very best in the

1:25:30 > 1:25:39world.I thought that was the best I have seen her skate in a long time.

1:25:39 > 1:25:43It's a programme that's won her a World Championship before. Now,

1:25:43 > 1:25:50surely enough for the Olympic title as well?Made the decision to change

1:25:50 > 1:25:53programmes mid-season, came back to one that she says really made her

1:25:53 > 1:26:02feel something different on the ice.

1:26:03 > 1:26:11Oh, it is not enough. 156.65 four Evgenia Medvedeva, and that is the

1:26:11 > 1:26:18gold medal missing. And heartbreak then for Medvedeva who thought she

1:26:18 > 1:26:24had done enough. And Alina Zagitova I like the rest of us can't really

1:26:24 > 1:26:29believe what she is hearing. A fantastic performance from Zagitova,

1:26:29 > 1:26:34we can take nothing away from the 15-year-old, but she has just pulled

1:26:34 > 1:26:39off an enormous upset here at this Olympic Games. Confirmation then

1:26:39 > 1:26:44that Alina Zagitova, the 15-year-old upstart from Russia has caused

1:26:44 > 1:26:52another enormous shock, beating her countrywoman Evgenia Medvedeva, the

1:26:52 > 1:26:56two-time world champion, favourite for this title.Kaetlyn Osmond takes

1:26:56 > 1:27:00the bronze. We have been very excited about the rivalry. I think

1:27:00 > 1:27:07it's something we will see for many years to come.TRANSLATION:I think

1:27:07 > 1:27:12the competition, we are in real life very good friends, but in sport, I

1:27:12 > 1:27:17think the competition is very important and it makes us to grow

1:27:17 > 1:27:24together.Evgenia, congratulations on an Olympic silver medal. It

1:27:24 > 1:27:30looked very emotional for you there afterwards.Yes, it's really

1:27:30 > 1:27:33unexpected for everybody, I think, because I'm not normally an

1:27:33 > 1:27:39emotional person. I just thought about everything, I'm at the

1:27:39 > 1:27:44Olympics, I did a clean free programme, I did my best to day and

1:27:44 > 1:27:51I left all my soul today in this competition and my performance and

1:27:51 > 1:28:01just... I think it was happy crying. And individual bronze medal. You've

1:28:01 > 1:28:06had the medals before, but this your first individual one? It's so

1:28:06 > 1:28:10exciting. The team medals are so special, they are with your family

1:28:10 > 1:28:16on the ice and having that support is really special, but being able to

1:28:16 > 1:28:20do this by myself proved that I am strong and able to do this without

1:28:20 > 1:28:28the team, which means so much. What a story at the figure skating and

1:28:28 > 1:28:33the win for those two teenagers from Russia means that for the first time

1:28:33 > 1:28:37this Olympics, we will see The Olympic Club leaves from Russia at

1:28:37 > 1:28:42the top of the podium and poor Medvedeva, she skated so well. She

1:28:42 > 1:28:53must feel so bad. Zagitova only had her first proper competition last

1:28:53 > 1:28:56year and she comes along and still is the gold medal. We will ask Jayne

1:28:56 > 1:29:01Torvill what she thought of it in just a moment, but this is a site

1:29:01 > 1:29:07that you will not have seen before, because instead of the Russian flag

1:29:07 > 1:29:11and Russian and them being played, it is the Olympic flag and the

1:29:11 > 1:29:16Olympic hymn.

1:29:40 > 1:29:45Ladies and gentlemen, the Olympic anthem.

1:29:50 > 1:29:58THE OLYMPIC ANTHEM PLAYS.

1:31:18 > 1:31:26CLARE BALDING: it's a lovely tune and it is quite long, you can see

1:31:26 > 1:31:32from Zagatova's po-faced that she can't sing along. Evgenia Medvedeva

1:31:32 > 1:31:47and Kaetlyn Osmond join her. Medvedeva, unbeaten from November

1:31:47 > 1:31:512015 until last month and Zagatova appears on the scene. She broke her

1:31:51 > 1:31:59foot in October and it's been quite a difficult and preparation. But her

1:31:59 > 1:32:03routine and the crowd watching thought it was worthy of the gold

1:32:03 > 1:32:08medal.Yes, she won the free skate. It was a great performance and I

1:32:08 > 1:32:13think she thought she had done it. She did win the free skating

1:32:13 > 1:32:17programme by a small amount but it wasn't enough for the combined. My

1:32:17 > 1:32:23favourite programme was Kaetlyn Osmond.Did you like a routine the

1:32:23 > 1:32:27best?I did. I hadn't seen it before but for me the quality of skating

1:32:27 > 1:32:32was there all the way through. She had great speed, smooth lines,

1:32:32 > 1:32:39smooth edges. She performs well. For me, that was the best routine. And

1:32:39 > 1:32:43actually her bronze medal means Canada have won 27 medals in total

1:32:43 > 1:32:47which beats their score from Vancouver.

1:32:47 > 1:32:49which beats their score from Vancouver. She's 21, Kaetlyn Osmond,

1:32:49 > 1:32:54whereas the two teenagers are significantly younger. Let's start

1:32:54 > 1:32:58with Zagatova. Just 15. She back loathes her routine. All of her

1:32:58 > 1:33:05jumps come in the last two minutes. Why does she do that -- back loads

1:33:05 > 1:33:11her routine.Any jumps you do in the last two minutes of the routine you

1:33:11 > 1:33:16get 10% more points for. She's taken it to the extreme. The question is,

1:33:16 > 1:33:22is that a balanced programme? In the components scored there is a score

1:33:22 > 1:33:28for artistry and performance. Does it look balanced? No, it doesn't.

1:33:28 > 1:33:30There's a lot of outcry about how

1:33:30 > 1:33:30it look balanced? No, it doesn't. There's a lot of outcry about how it

1:33:30 > 1:33:34possibly unfair but I suppose from the judges' point of view, they are

1:33:34 > 1:33:39the rules at the moment. She has to get 10% more in the second half of

1:33:39 > 1:33:44her programme. I suspect they will look at that again and maybe change

1:33:44 > 1:33:50the rules. When you watch this routine, what did you think?

1:33:50 > 1:33:55Obviously she is so talented and beautiful. Lack of speed for me and

1:33:55 > 1:34:00the jumps and that high. Luckily she rotates really quickly. But if you

1:34:00 > 1:34:05look at Kaetlyn Osmond, when she lands she is still coming out on a

1:34:05 > 1:34:08beautiful running edge. For me that makes all the difference. She's

1:34:08 > 1:34:15almost landing on the spot here. Does it tell enough of a story for

1:34:15 > 1:34:20you?I'm not sure what she's telling, really. There is a theme

1:34:20 > 1:34:23there but I don't think she's quite mature enough to bring it off,

1:34:23 > 1:34:29rarely.She is amazingly talented. She's world junior champion and

1:34:29 > 1:34:33obviously coming in against the older, some of them still girls but

1:34:33 > 1:34:37some of them women, it's a big occasion. She has not gone wrong.

1:34:37 > 1:34:43She hasn't had a shocker, she's getting green marks as she piles in

1:34:43 > 1:34:46these jumps. It's putting a lot of pressure on yourself to leave it

1:34:46 > 1:34:51late.She's obviously very intelligent and focused because her

1:34:51 > 1:34:56first combination didn't quite come off. Instead of getting phased by

1:34:56 > 1:35:01that, that was one of her first jumps I believe, she put the

1:35:01 > 1:35:04combination in later. She's a smart cookie and I think we'll see a lot

1:35:04 > 1:35:09more from her.Let's have a look at Medvedeva. Clearly her reaction to

1:35:09 > 1:35:15her scores, she looked absolutely heartbroken because she thought

1:35:15 > 1:35:23she'd done enough. She spreads her jumps out more in her routine, and

1:35:23 > 1:35:30as a skater, what do you see in her? First of all, I see more speed from

1:35:30 > 1:35:34the start of the programme. I see that she has a more balanced

1:35:34 > 1:35:42programme. I preferred her programme to that of Zagitova. But my

1:35:42 > 1:35:45favourite was the Canadian.We'll have a look at the Canadian in a

1:35:45 > 1:35:52moment. Do you think with Medvedeva you see and feel the emotion?Yes,

1:35:52 > 1:35:57absolutely. As it was getting towards the end and she was

1:35:57 > 1:36:01realising that everything had gone well, she was enjoying it more, to

1:36:01 > 1:36:07the point that she was quite emotional. It was the short

1:36:07 > 1:36:11programme that lost it for her. The Kaetlyn Osmond, she was playing

1:36:11 > 1:36:17catch up and that's what is so difficult to do. If you are not

1:36:17 > 1:36:20right there after the short programme it's really hard to make

1:36:20 > 1:36:24up all of those points however good you are.The short programme was

1:36:24 > 1:36:30pretty close with the top two. Again, I think Zagitova put some of

1:36:30 > 1:36:37her jumps later on and got those extra points. This is your favourite

1:36:37 > 1:36:41free routine.I like the energy, performance, speed and skating

1:36:41 > 1:36:46quality. It's not stiff, on the spot, she's moving. Beautiful flow

1:36:46 > 1:36:53with the edges. When she comes out of a jump, she still has a great

1:36:53 > 1:36:59running edge. You talked earlier about the acting, the performance

1:36:59 > 1:37:04ability required. Does she win on that score as well? For me, the

1:37:04 > 1:37:08performance is there as well. That comes with maturity. There are

1:37:08 > 1:37:13benefits therefore to being older, but the gold and silver medallists

1:37:13 > 1:37:20are really young. The balancing of being supple and the bravery of

1:37:20 > 1:37:25youth.There's a point where you're too old, definitely. She's still

1:37:25 > 1:37:34only 22.We saw the Italian who is 31 still going strong. That was a

1:37:34 > 1:37:40great routine from Osmond. She knew it. They know it, as soon as they

1:37:40 > 1:37:45finish.Unfortunately she stepped out of one of her jumps. It was a

1:37:45 > 1:37:49small mistake. I'd then think she would have got silver looking at the

1:37:49 > 1:37:53results of the Russians. The crowd are so passionate. When those

1:37:53 > 1:37:59results came up and Medvedeva hadn't won, they were booing in the arena.

1:37:59 > 1:38:03I think the audience thought she had done it so it was a bit of a shock.

1:38:03 > 1:38:10It happens. It happened four years ago when Yuna Kim didn't win. It's

1:38:10 > 1:38:14down to the judges.Thank you for making sense of

1:38:14 > 1:38:15down to the judges.Thank you for making sense of what the judges do

1:38:15 > 1:38:24but also explaining what you felt. They have gone gold and silver to

1:38:24 > 1:38:28OAR and bronze to Canada. Let's switch to a sport which doesn't

1:38:28 > 1:38:36require judges. In about ten minutes time on the ice at the Gangneung

1:38:36 > 1:38:45Curling Centre we will seek Team GB coming out for their semifinal game

1:38:45 > 1:38:55against Sweden. If they win it they will be into a gold-medal match.

1:38:55 > 1:39:03In Korea, we like games of strategy.

1:39:03 > 1:39:06We like games that take their time, progress slowly but take you under

1:39:06 > 1:39:11their spell.

1:39:11 > 1:39:14We like a game called go.

1:39:14 > 1:39:18The oldest board game, played for thousands of years.

1:39:18 > 1:39:24It's a game of stones, probability and calculation.

1:39:24 > 1:39:27The aim of the game it is to place your stones to control

1:39:27 > 1:39:32a desired territory.

1:39:32 > 1:39:40But, this isn't the only game here that is played with stones.

1:39:40 > 1:39:48This game is hypnotic.

1:39:51 > 1:39:58Superior tactics will ensure you guard against enemy attack.

1:39:59 > 1:40:06Brush your opponents' stones away.

1:40:06 > 1:40:14End your adversaries' chances.

1:40:14 > 1:40:17So complex it carries heavy mental weight.

1:40:17 > 1:40:20In South Korea, we have a new love.

1:40:20 > 1:40:28We love curling.

1:40:30 > 1:40:34CLARE BALDING:all around the world people are falling in love with

1:40:34 > 1:40:39curling. It's a third Olympic Games for Eve Muirhead and for the team

1:40:39 > 1:40:41around her, they know each other extremely well. They support each

1:40:41 > 1:40:47other, they keep each other smiling. They also have a regret. Four years

1:40:47 > 1:40:51ago at the semifinal stage, they lost. That meant they could only

1:40:51 > 1:40:55earn themselves a bronze medal. This time they are determined that the

1:40:55 > 1:41:02result is different.

1:41:08 > 1:41:12We went into Sochi as current for champions. I guess having that on

1:41:12 > 1:41:16your CV is going to make it a bit tougher. You're always going to add

1:41:16 > 1:41:22some pressure.There were expectations but it's probably more

1:41:22 > 1:41:26that we put on ourselves because we knew we had beaten everyone there.

1:41:26 > 1:41:30It was really, who was going to play better for that

1:41:30 > 1:41:32It was really, who was going to play better for that week.COMMENTATOR:

1:41:32 > 1:41:35They fought so hard on this potentially her last stone of this

1:41:35 > 1:41:42match. It's got a chance. That's a nice shot from Eve Muirhead.The

1:41:42 > 1:41:46pressure made us know we could perform at that high level. It made

1:41:46 > 1:41:52us know we were the best team in the world and capable of hitting the

1:41:52 > 1:41:56podium.A big pressure shot here. This is to close out the match

1:41:56 > 1:42:04against Great Britain. They will have to work it really hard... Is it

1:42:04 > 1:42:10going to get there? I think it is. Canada have won it.When we lost

1:42:10 > 1:42:14that semifinal, it was probably the most devastating defeat of my

1:42:14 > 1:42:19career. We worked so hard. I knew my Olympic gold medal dream was over.

1:42:19 > 1:42:23Losing that semifinal was definitely the hardest loss. At the time we

1:42:23 > 1:42:26thought this is a really quick turnover but that's probably what

1:42:26 > 1:42:33helped us in the end. They are the world champions and now they could

1:42:33 > 1:42:36be the Olympic bronze medallists if this stone is right from Eve

1:42:36 > 1:42:42Muirhead. The stone is going to get there! Britain have won the bronze

1:42:42 > 1:42:48medal.To come home with a medal was outstanding. I'm still really

1:42:48 > 1:42:52pleased with that, but I think now I've got a taste of that Olympic

1:42:52 > 1:42:59podium, I want to build my way up. Obviously we've got a bit of

1:42:59 > 1:43:02unfinished business, getting the bronze medal was amazing, but you

1:43:02 > 1:43:07always want to do better. So we have to break it down into each game and

1:43:07 > 1:43:12then once we get to hopefully the play-off stage, that's a brand-new

1:43:12 > 1:43:18competition.We feel like we're in a good place at the moment. We've been

1:43:18 > 1:43:21working really hard and that's something I feel I have to

1:43:21 > 1:43:25constantly say to people about curling. It's much harder than it

1:43:25 > 1:43:30looks. We wouldn't have to train so much to be at the top of the game if

1:43:30 > 1:43:36it wasn't. We had a great win at the European Championships.COMMENTATOR:

1:43:36 > 1:43:43Gold-medal and medallists in Switzerland. The gold medal at the

1:43:43 > 1:43:46Olympics is the only one I'm missing in my collection. It would mean a

1:43:46 > 1:43:52lot of very hard work has paid off and I have put in a lot of work to

1:43:52 > 1:43:56get into the position I'm in just now. To stand on top of the podium

1:43:56 > 1:44:02would be something extra, extra special.

1:44:02 > 1:44:06would be something extra, extra special.CLARE BALDING: we have a

1:44:06 > 1:44:11man who has been through exactly that situation. Four years ago David

1:44:11 > 1:44:14Murdoch skipped his British team through the semifinals into the

1:44:14 > 1:44:18gold-medal match. Eve has worked incredibly hard, she's got a

1:44:18 > 1:44:22tight-knit team around her. What do you hope to see from them against

1:44:22 > 1:44:26Sweden?I hope to see the things they've really progressed on.

1:44:26 > 1:44:30They've really come together as a team. They've stuck together, worked

1:44:30 > 1:44:34hard. I thought they stayed really calm this week and especially Eve.

1:44:34 > 1:44:40She's really stayed in that moment, really focused and she's played

1:44:40 > 1:44:43extremely well. I think if they can keep to that and keep the presents,

1:44:43 > 1:44:52take to the ice as if they are about to win. They've got to believe.

1:44:52 > 1:44:57And how much of the bonus is it that this is for most of them their third

1:44:57 > 1:45:00Olympics? Same for you last time around. What do you learn when you

1:45:00 > 1:45:04have been to a couple of games? There are lots of things to learn.

1:45:04 > 1:45:09You learn to deal with the pressure better, you learn from strategy,

1:45:09 > 1:45:13from your technique and ability to deal with the big games. For the

1:45:13 > 1:45:18ladies about to take to the ice right now, they have ticked the box

1:45:18 > 1:45:21for all of those over the years and they can go on there knowing they

1:45:21 > 1:45:24have done all the hard work, they have done everything over the years,

1:45:24 > 1:45:28their support staff have supported them to get to this moment and now

1:45:28 > 1:45:32it's up to them. They have to believe in themselves and try to

1:45:32 > 1:45:36make that great performance they have been doing for a long time.

1:45:36 > 1:45:40They should be a fabulous atmosphere there because in the other

1:45:40 > 1:45:44semifinal, Korea are up against Japan, meaning a lot of fans will be

1:45:44 > 1:45:52cheering every shot that Korea play. They have nicknamed themselves the

1:45:52 > 1:45:57garlic girls, because they all come from the garlic growing region.

1:45:57 > 1:46:04There are only four teams left in the women's curling and they include

1:46:04 > 1:46:09the great British women's team, and all four of them will combine

1:46:09 > 1:46:14because it is not just about the skip. No, it really is a team sport.

1:46:14 > 1:46:22Every stone has the team's influence. Whether you are sweeping

1:46:22 > 1:46:28it or calling the strategy or letting it go.You are about to the

1:46:28 > 1:46:35Anna Hasselborg, the skip of the Swedish team. They have played each

1:46:35 > 1:46:40other 21 times. Eve has the advantage 11-10, but in recent

1:46:40 > 1:46:48matches Sweden has the upper hand, albeit that the

1:46:49 > 1:46:54albeit that the Swedish round robin finished with controversy. It is ten

1:46:54 > 1:47:08ends in total here, with Vicki Adams

1:47:15 > 1:47:19going first, she has the focus of being able to deliver in the now and

1:47:19 > 1:47:25that is what is great about her. And she played one of the shots of the

1:47:25 > 1:47:31tournament, didn't she, Eve? She certainly did.

1:47:31 > 1:47:32tournament, didn't she, Eve? She certainly did. And this was it

1:47:32 > 1:47:39because it was a game turning opportunity against Canada. This

1:47:39 > 1:47:43shot had to be absolutely perfect. In all honesty, Claire, if she

1:47:43 > 1:47:47doesn't make this, probably Great Britain were going out of the games.

1:47:47 > 1:47:53That is how important this shot was. Unbelievable, just to take both the

1:47:53 > 1:48:00red and lie first in her shot. It really changed the manner of the

1:48:00 > 1:48:04game and made Canada set on the back foot.Do you ever have a heart rate

1:48:04 > 1:48:09monitor on when you play? Do you know how your heart rate changes. We

1:48:09 > 1:48:12don't, but there is talk of doing that going forward so we would be

1:48:12 > 1:48:16able to see what the heart rate is of the athletes when they are under

1:48:16 > 1:48:20pressure and when they are sweeping, how high it could be.I'd love to

1:48:20 > 1:48:26know how much it changes. There will be a lot of changes over the next

1:48:26 > 1:48:30couple of hours, ten ends in total. The Swedish team there will be

1:48:30 > 1:48:35determined. They are a very strong side. But everybody in Great Britain

1:48:35 > 1:48:38supporting Eve Muirhead and her rink will be hoping they can continue

1:48:38 > 1:48:44their winning run. Our commentary team for this place in a gold-medal

1:48:44 > 1:48:51match, Jackie

1:48:52 > 1:48:57match, Jackie Lockhart is alongside Logan Gray and Steve Cram.Thank

1:48:57 > 1:49:02you, Claire, and yes, we are ready to go, ready to rumble here against

1:49:02 > 1:49:06Sweden. A great atmosphere already holding in the centre here because,

1:49:06 > 1:49:11as you mentioned, the garlic girls, the Korean team, they have been

1:49:11 > 1:49:14called the garlic girls since about the middle of last week, I think.

1:49:14 > 1:49:18The have stopped calling them Korea out here, and there will be plenty

1:49:18 > 1:49:26of noise as they take on Japan. A full house expected here, not just

1:49:26 > 1:49:30in terms of spectators. There is so much media here, particularly from

1:49:30 > 1:49:38Japan and the local media from Korea. They are at the far end. The

1:49:38 > 1:49:45other matches will be on sheet a and there must be 50 or 60 photographers

1:49:45 > 1:49:52there. They are to Eve Muirhead's right. We are about to get underway.

1:49:52 > 1:49:55Sweden finished above Great Britain in their round-robin competition,

1:49:55 > 1:49:59partly because of the win in the match mentioned a little earlier, so

1:49:59 > 1:50:03they have the hammer in the best end. Here we go then. A chance to

1:50:03 > 1:50:10get into the final to contest the medal. Lauren Gray the lead for

1:50:10 > 1:50:14Great Britain. How are your nerves, Jackie? They are OK at the moment

1:50:14 > 1:50:20but it is early doors. We have been building up to this all day, really.

1:50:20 > 1:50:25We had a fabulous bronze medal match between Canada and Switzerland,

1:50:25 > 1:50:29Switzerland coming out on top. It has been a great curling competition

1:50:29 > 1:50:34in both ends and the women's. Lots of shocks and we can double the way

1:50:34 > 1:50:38back even to the mixed doubles. Of course Canada were successful in

1:50:38 > 1:50:42that. Switzerland picked up the silver. So Switzerland already have

1:50:42 > 1:50:47two medals in this competition. Sweden have a chance of two bites at

1:50:47 > 1:50:51the gold medal. Their men have maybe gold-medal match. They will be

1:50:51 > 1:50:57playing Switzerland for that gold-medal and their women trying to

1:50:57 > 1:51:01beat Eve Muirhead. There is the skip, Anna Hasselborg. And there is

1:51:01 > 1:51:07Eve Muirhead.

1:51:07 > 1:51:10Eve Muirhead. Well, I know Claire mentioned Logan Gray who has been

1:51:10 > 1:51:15commentating with us. He is actually up in the stands, watching his

1:51:15 > 1:51:19sister Lauren. He is over in the top corner. He will be as nervous as the

1:51:19 > 1:51:25rest of us, I am sure. The boys are in as well, the British men's team,

1:51:25 > 1:51:29coming in to help support and there is plenty of British support in the

1:51:29 > 1:51:34crowd. Lots of union Jacks and family members up in the eaves of

1:51:34 > 1:51:39the stadium.

1:51:39 > 1:51:42the stadium. Even's mum is Albert -- Eve's mum is up there and her uncle

1:51:42 > 1:51:49and quite a lot of family members. So, these two teams know each other

1:51:49 > 1:51:53really well, Jackie, they go back to junior days together. I was noting

1:51:53 > 1:51:59that when Eve one four junior world titles, one as skip, and the wine

1:51:59 > 1:52:07year she didn't go, she took part in the Olympics in Vancouver, the one

1:52:07 > 1:52:11year she didn't take part, Anna Hasselborg won the junior World

1:52:11 > 1:52:17Championships. So they have history and have been fairly evenly matched

1:52:17 > 1:52:20as recently as the European Championships in December, but Eve

1:52:20 > 1:52:25Muirhead came out on top then. This is what I am expecting to see at the

1:52:25 > 1:52:29moment. If Eve had the hammer, she is a very offensive player and will

1:52:29 > 1:52:35go from it -- for it from the word go. Anna Hasselborg is more cagey

1:52:35 > 1:52:39and defensive. I think what she likes to do is let her team settle,

1:52:39 > 1:52:43get the first bend under the belt and then she moves into the more

1:52:43 > 1:52:48offensive game. I sometimes think, you have had your nine minutes

1:52:48 > 1:52:53practice, why not give it a go? You can quite often catch teams out in

1:52:53 > 1:52:57the first end but she never seems to do that. You told me that the other

1:52:57 > 1:53:04day so I had a think about it and I also thought, if one team starts

1:53:04 > 1:53:12first, it never goes that way, you have five matches -- five ends meet

1:53:12 > 1:53:19in the match. If you blow the birds dead straightaway, then it is a nine

1:53:19 > 1:53:22and match effectively. And that is probably why she doesn't do it. But

1:53:22 > 1:53:27quite early on, you can often pick up two or three in the first end.

1:53:27 > 1:53:35But you need to be confident. As you say, you don't often go through a

1:53:35 > 1:53:40game where you constantly have your hammer in the even ends. As the game

1:53:40 > 1:53:48gets more in-depth as it goes on, lots of things can happen.

1:53:48 > 1:53:51lots of things can happen.That was Agnes Knochenhauer, 28-year-old, the

1:53:51 > 1:53:57joint oldest in their team.

1:53:58 > 1:54:01joint oldest in their team. Anna Sloan, and I think it can really

1:54:01 > 1:54:06gets her game, look at her tournament accuracy, 76%. She has

1:54:06 > 1:54:10had matches whereby her own admission she hasn't played up to

1:54:10 > 1:54:14her high standards. If we can get all four of them clicking here

1:54:14 > 1:54:18tonight, then they have got a great chance. Don't keep putting all of

1:54:18 > 1:54:27the pressure on Eve Muirhead. She well capable. This is Sara McManus

1:54:27 > 1:54:34and, well, Sara is the daughter of a Scottish footballer, Stuart McManus,

1:54:34 > 1:54:37who I think played for Southampton in the 80s and then moved to Sweden

1:54:37 > 1:54:46and finished his career there. Sara says she is Swedish three and three

1:54:46 > 1:54:54-- through and through. And I'm sure her dad will be very proud. Sara

1:54:54 > 1:54:56McManus has played exceptionally well, especially against Great

1:54:56 > 1:55:03Britain when they met in the round-robin match. She is a real

1:55:03 > 1:55:08danger in the third spot. So, just seeing this first end brew.

1:55:13 > 1:55:17Yes, the girls were all in this afternoon practising in a very empty

1:55:17 > 1:55:23arena, but because they finished yesterday and had almost a whole day

1:55:23 > 1:55:29off, they did get probably half an hour 's practice this afternoon.

1:55:34 > 1:55:38Well, you are going to hear some cheers and excitement, I am sure, as

1:55:38 > 1:55:45that other match progresses. The superb Korean women's team who have

1:55:45 > 1:55:50taken this competition by storm. They have also been taken to be

1:55:50 > 1:55:57hearts of the Korean public, in the newspapers and on TV everywhere.

1:55:57 > 1:56:02Spurling not the biggest sport here in Korea, but my goodness me, have

1:56:02 > 1:56:07they been popular. -- curling not the biggest sport here in Korea. But

1:56:07 > 1:56:12Japan will give them a big match. That is why this is such an

1:56:12 > 1:56:15opportunity for Eve Muirhead. You heard before how much it means for

1:56:15 > 1:56:20her to be fighting for the gold medal. It was bronze last time. A

1:56:20 > 1:56:23medal of course in any Winter Olympics is a huge achievement, but

1:56:23 > 1:56:28she so wants to win that gold-medal match and when you consider that

1:56:28 > 1:56:32Canada have gone out, any time Canada aren't... Well, they have

1:56:32 > 1:56:39never not been in the semifinals, the Canadian women.

1:56:49 > 1:56:53So, we will end up with a blanket end here as I am pretty sure we will

1:56:53 > 1:57:00get these last couple of stones traded. Anna Hasselborg, 28, just a

1:57:00 > 1:57:06year older than Eve. You can see Lauren Gray taking her jacket off

1:57:06 > 1:57:17already. Hasn't had to do any work yet. Not sweeping winds. But you get

1:57:17 > 1:57:27pretty warm. The skip's often taking their jacket off -- keeping their

1:57:27 > 1:57:30jacket on, but we saw Kevin Koe take his off today that they may have

1:57:30 > 1:57:38been the pressure he was under. Anna Hasselborg, the question is or was

1:57:38 > 1:57:44about her temperament at the end in tournaments, but she is getting more

1:57:44 > 1:57:49and more experienced. We will try to keep you up-to-date as things

1:57:49 > 1:57:57progress. There is nothing much happening yet, but whenever Korea

1:57:57 > 1:58:01play a good shot, you will hear big cheers. It creates a bit of

1:58:01 > 1:58:10atmosphere. So, Anna and Eve who have been together for so many

1:58:10 > 1:58:14years, lived together at times as well. They are all now up at

1:58:14 > 1:58:25Stirling in the Academy.

1:58:25 > 1:58:28I suppose for everyone, you were saying for Sweden it settles them

1:58:28 > 1:58:33down, but it helps the British women just to ease their nerves. There are

1:58:33 > 1:58:40bound to be some, even though Eve is here for the third time, the other

1:58:40 > 1:58:46two, Vicki and Anna of course were part of the bronze medal team.

1:58:46 > 1:58:55Lauren was, but she was the alternate. Now she is on the ice.

1:58:55 > 1:59:00Yes, all of these girls are very much used to playing at this level,

1:59:00 > 1:59:04but it is of course an Olympic Games and you are never really sure how

1:59:04 > 1:59:07you are going to perform. You have to be nervous. If you weren't

1:59:07 > 1:59:10nervous before you came out, there would be something wrong with you as

1:59:10 > 1:59:12an athlete.

1:59:17 > 1:59:22So, it's a nine endgame now. Anna Hasselborg doing what she normally

1:59:22 > 1:59:27does when she has the hammer, just blanking the end. By contrast, the

1:59:27 > 1:59:32other match, there are plenty of stones in place already. It's

1:59:32 > 1:59:39nowhere near the end. There are still four stones to go in that

1:59:39 > 1:59:44match so get used to be cheering, I know it can be quite disconcerting.

1:59:44 > 1:59:49They normally have four matches on. There is part of the Eve Muirhead

1:59:49 > 1:59:57contingent. Her mum with her arms crossed, folded.Kelly Schafer's

1:59:57 > 2:00:10husband there has flown across from Canada.

2:00:10 > 2:00:16I note it's approaching Friday lunchtime, cancel the afternoon's

2:00:16 > 2:00:24work, settle down and watch this. You can catch up later. Just answer

2:00:24 > 2:00:30e-mails, that's fine. You're allowed to do that.Yeah, hopefully we've

2:00:30 > 2:00:34got a big crowd watching the curling match today. All the fans from four

2:00:34 > 2:00:44years ago in Sochi. Hello, if you've joined us back again, welcome.

2:00:47 > 2:00:53So, Great Britain facing a hammer again. Sweden carry it over with the

2:00:53 > 2:01:03blanked end. Straightforward draw end from Lauren. A casual opening,

2:01:03 > 2:01:10if you like, a bit. A chance to feel the ice, this is sheet C. The bronze

2:01:10 > 2:01:18medal match was on one of the middle sheets this morning. A match

2:01:19 > 2:01:27sheets this morning. A match between Japan and Korea on one of the middle

2:01:27 > 2:01:33sheets. Even today, you can't blame the ice, because Switzerland played

2:01:33 > 2:01:42it perfectly well. Canada had some problems. Switzerland were superb

2:01:42 > 2:01:46stophere, we see Anna Hasselborg happy to take the game on. She has

2:01:46 > 2:01:55put a guard on.

2:01:56 > 2:02:03They just want this to come and sit high up the yellow stone on the ice,

2:02:03 > 2:02:11but as high as possible.

2:02:13 > 2:02:20Sweeping as hard as they can, Anna and Vicki. The main objective of the

2:02:20 > 2:02:26game at there is to guard the yellow you have got on the house, and

2:02:26 > 2:02:29Lauren has about. If the first one is off centre, you have to put the

2:02:29 > 2:02:40other one in if you can. So, Sofia Mabergs, the youngest of this team.

2:02:40 > 2:02:44Just 24. She used to lead for a different junior team. At one point,

2:02:44 > 2:02:58she played for a team skipped by her team-mates, Sara McManus.

2:02:59 > 2:03:09She only joined this team in the winter of 2015.

2:03:18 > 2:03:25So, a great chance here for Vicki to hit this red and get a little role.

2:03:25 > 2:03:31They're going to have to sweep this hard. I think it's going to hit and

2:03:31 > 2:03:39roll-out of the house. She is just saying she touched it there. Anna

2:03:39 > 2:03:48Hasselborg won't say much I think it was moving.

2:03:48 > 2:03:55She's knocked it out.

2:03:55 > 2:04:00She's knocked it out. So what happens? She has slowed it down.

2:04:00 > 2:04:06That is what Anna Hasselborg was saying. It probably might have went

2:04:06 > 2:04:09out, but it's in her right to say whether she takes it off or moves

2:04:09 > 2:04:18it.This isn't great. You can see it hit the foot there. It is whether

2:04:18 > 2:04:22how much it slowed it down. If you watch the turn of the handle. I'm

2:04:22 > 2:04:27not sure it slowed it that much. But she definitely hit it with her foot.

2:04:27 > 2:04:33It is still in, I think. She has just put it on the edge.

2:04:33 > 2:04:45We had a situation with Rachel Holman, the US skip. Funnily enough,

2:04:45 > 2:04:48Vicki have kept up three in the first end against Japan. What a

2:04:48 > 2:04:56great first end. Rachel Holman, the Canadian skip in a match in which

2:04:56 > 2:05:00the same sort of thing happen, I think it was against Denmark, was

2:05:00 > 2:05:08it? You are looking at the... I think it was Denmark. It was

2:05:08 > 2:05:12Denmark.She kicked it out before it stopped moving. They didn't have a

2:05:12 > 2:05:15discussion about it, which was frowned a little bit, and she

2:05:15 > 2:05:22actually lost the match in the end. I think the skip of the opposing

2:05:22 > 2:05:27person who burnt or touched the stone does have the right to say

2:05:27 > 2:05:30what she wants to do with the stone, and she has the right to take it

2:05:30 > 2:05:39out. But it was the minarets is -- mannerisms. Anna did say there, it

2:05:39 > 2:05:43did slow it down, and it might have moved a little further out. She is

2:05:43 > 2:05:48in her right to do that. Anna, good on her, she was truthful and she

2:05:48 > 2:05:58said she caught it with her foot.

2:06:01 > 2:06:08So, Kelly Schafer, Kelly Woods and Glenn Howard, who every single time,

2:06:08 > 2:06:17gives us the thumbs up. Great Canadian champion, world champion.

2:06:17 > 2:06:21Four time world champion, he is, yeah. Brought into this team here to

2:06:21 > 2:06:27help them with their strategy.

2:06:30 > 2:06:38So, a bit of an opportunity now for Sweden. Knochenhauer playing second.

2:06:38 > 2:06:42They are going to try and come in behind the guards that are sitting

2:06:42 > 2:06:46in a hind there. It has got to go a little bit as well, is it going to

2:06:46 > 2:06:53get there? Is it? Not just quite across it as much as

2:06:53 > 2:07:00she would have liked. Incidentally, Knochenhauer, as we

2:07:00 > 2:07:10see the Canadian... which skews me, Swedish bench -- excuse me.Jamie

2:07:10 > 2:07:20and Maria Prytz, the coach.I was about to say Anna

2:07:21 > 2:07:22about to say Anna Hasselborg and Agnes Knochenhauer, they were born

2:07:22 > 2:07:31on the same day in 1989 in Stockholm. Great, between those two.

2:07:31 > 2:07:35Knochenhauer and Hasselborg have lived together since they were

2:07:35 > 2:07:44young.They need to get past this year low guard stone.No.

2:07:44 > 2:07:49This is where Anna has got to really try in the early stages here, we

2:07:49 > 2:07:54need Anna Sloan to be making those shots.

2:07:54 > 2:08:06Was the throw OK?Yeah, yeah. A little discussion there, Anna just

2:08:06 > 2:08:12looking for some feedback from Eve Muirhead.

2:08:12 > 2:08:16Muirhead.Yeah, because quite often, if you throw a really good stone to

2:08:16 > 2:08:20your skip's Broom, and it doesn't come off, you want assurance from

2:08:20 > 2:08:26the skip to say, it was my full, I did not give you enough. Or vice

2:08:26 > 2:08:30versa, you tucked it in. You need the communication to fix your shot

2:08:30 > 2:08:40for the next end. The next stone, in fact. So, McManus next to go.

2:08:46 > 2:08:52It is just going to come in the other side of the house, they are

2:08:52 > 2:08:57line two at the moment, building a nice opportunity here. Nothing out

2:08:57 > 2:09:04front for them to worry about. What's Eve going to do a?She's

2:09:04 > 2:09:11going to go...The double?On the left of the picture there.

2:09:11 > 2:09:19Looking at all the angles. So, Anna Sloan, when she is playing well, the

2:09:19 > 2:09:26sort of shot she loves to make.

2:09:27 > 2:09:31It's been a bit of a feature of the British women's team that they

2:09:31 > 2:09:34haven't started matches all that well. They have definitely got

2:09:34 > 2:09:37better through the match, but they cannot afford to let Sweden get away

2:09:37 > 2:09:43from them here. There's one gone. A good chance at the other one, almost

2:09:43 > 2:09:47got three, actually. Nice shot there from Anna Sloan. That will make her

2:09:47 > 2:09:56feel a lot better. A pity that the third one didn't go. It almost did.

2:09:56 > 2:10:02Yeah, that was a lovely shot. A lot of yellow counters just biting at

2:10:02 > 2:10:11the edge of the four foot there. You've got to have eyes everywhere.

2:10:11 > 2:10:16Anna Hasselborg was watching her own red, then realised the yellow was at

2:10:16 > 2:10:24the top end and tried to sweep it out. So, McManus trying to play the

2:10:24 > 2:10:31same shot she played last time. Not leaving the double on this time.

2:10:31 > 2:10:34They have either got to be really high in the house or bring it right

2:10:34 > 2:10:43to the back. That's just going to come close to

2:10:43 > 2:10:48the T-line again.

2:10:48 > 2:10:56the T-line again. Even's just going to have a look.These are key shots

2:10:56 > 2:11:02if you have the hammer, making sure you have a stone either side, and

2:11:02 > 2:11:06you are line two. Any mistake here and we have lots of yellows counting

2:11:06 > 2:11:10in there. Having said that, they are all on the outside, await from the

2:11:10 > 2:11:15four foot. And Anna Hasselborg does have the hammer here. If a mistake

2:11:15 > 2:11:23happened, that is what you are trying to do.This is a fair bit of

2:11:23 > 2:11:27ice between these two stones here in the house. Eve Muirhead driving to

2:11:27 > 2:11:40emulate Anna Sloan. Double

2:11:40 > 2:11:43emulate Anna Sloan. Double taker. Has she got this one? Got a

2:11:43 > 2:11:50chance...Oh, it has just gone underneath.Just underneath. That

2:11:50 > 2:11:56wasn't a bad shot. Very, very close. There was a lot of ice between those

2:11:56 > 2:12:04two. CHEERING What it from the overhead, here. I

2:12:04 > 2:12:08thought from the angle we were looking at it, I think it was going

2:12:08 > 2:12:15with the curl, the spin. But just goes underneath. Unlucky there. Head

2:12:15 > 2:12:26back. New it was close. -- she knew it was close.

2:12:28 > 2:12:34So, Sweden will be hoping they can make sure of their two. Two stones

2:12:34 > 2:12:38to go. She won't want to give Eve Muirhead that same opportunity

2:12:38 > 2:12:42again.

2:12:44 > 2:12:54So, Anna Hasselborg, 28-year-old skip. Intently watching her first

2:12:54 > 2:13:02meaningful stone after the blanked first end. Wants to go a little

2:13:02 > 2:13:06further back this time. They had to be very careful, they don't want to

2:13:06 > 2:13:12leave a double on again.Coming back onto the T-line again. Even's going

2:13:12 > 2:13:17to have another look.

2:13:20 > 2:13:27There's a little, even more distance, but she's left an angle.

2:13:29 > 2:13:35Just about there, Eve. Easier said than done, isn't it. When you catch

2:13:35 > 2:13:38the first stone, not even half a centimetre wide of where you want

2:13:38 > 2:13:46to. Change the angle which the stone comes off. And you've got to have a

2:13:46 > 2:13:51fair amount of weight to take that second stone out, just tap it out if

2:13:51 > 2:13:58she can.You heard her saying, because she wants to get more of the

2:13:58 > 2:14:06stone she is aiming for. Even if she gets a dead ball across the face.

2:14:06 > 2:14:11That one just got too much of it. This should be fairly

2:14:11 > 2:14:19straightforward for Hasselborg to get her two. I do fear for the

2:14:19 > 2:14:28Japanese team. They are up

2:14:28 > 2:14:31Japanese team. They are up against Korea. The Korean crowd, you have

2:14:31 > 2:14:36heard them behind their team, as you would expect. Sweden he is set to

2:14:36 > 2:14:44take their two, barring any mistakes.

2:14:46 > 2:14:54A little unfortunate from a Great Britain perspective. Eve just

2:14:54 > 2:15:01missing with her first attempt at the double. The Swedish and British

2:15:01 > 2:15:12players are really going to have to concentrate. The crowd cheering.

2:15:19 > 2:15:25Oh, she's fortunate! Because if that red had not been there, then that

2:15:25 > 2:15:30would have had enough on it to go out. She's just pushed it back and

2:15:30 > 2:15:42they've stayed two. Almost not only did that red stop the shooter from

2:15:42 > 2:15:45spinning out, the shooter tapped the red back, but not enough to prevent

2:15:45 > 2:15:51it being two. So, Sweden will be very, very pleased that they've

2:15:51 > 2:16:00picked up their two and they lead after two Tony.

2:16:00 > 2:16:04after two Tony. The atmosphere is wonderful in here and just watching

2:16:04 > 2:16:10that stone come down, just watch this. It has got enough of it and if

2:16:10 > 2:16:15it does not catch enough of that red it goes out itself. But that British

2:16:15 > 2:16:20yellow at the top of the circle not counting. And you think about Anna

2:16:20 > 2:16:26Sloan's stone that was moved further out, it might have counted, but as

2:16:26 > 2:16:35we said, Anna had taken something of that with her foot accidentally.

2:16:35 > 2:16:38that with her foot accidentally. So, important that Great Britain

2:16:38 > 2:16:45respond. And this is the first time, I'll say it before you get word

2:16:45 > 2:16:53across your lips - patience.Good! If there's anything you've learned

2:16:53 > 2:17:05this week, that's what the game of curling is all about!

2:17:15 > 2:17:20Eve will want to build a nice end here, she will want a

2:17:20 > 2:17:32straightforward shot to get her two, just like Anna just had. So, Lauren

2:17:32 > 2:17:37Gray looking for a nice first stone. Just going to put a corner guard in

2:17:37 > 2:17:42place.

2:17:43 > 2:17:46place.Lauren Gray puts a massive amount of handle on these stones

2:17:46 > 2:17:56are! It's just spinning, spinning - is it stopping? It is.If you're

2:17:56 > 2:17:59still new to getting into the curling in the latter stages, then

2:17:59 > 2:18:05anything out in the front of the house, in front of the tee line and

2:18:05 > 2:18:12not in the house is not in the free guard zone until four stones have

2:18:12 > 2:18:22been played. You can't hit it out of play. If it had come into the house,

2:18:22 > 2:18:28then Sweden were entitled to move it. She's played a couple of nice

2:18:28 > 2:18:36stones. Just curling across a little bit, it means that a little bit of

2:18:36 > 2:18:45that red can be seen. Not much. JACKIE LOCKHART: So, Lauren Gray

2:18:45 > 2:18:51just being asked to come round onto that red in the centre. She's

2:18:51 > 2:18:58playing a clockwise rotation of the stone.

2:19:03 > 2:19:10Is this just going to go past? Vicki is trying hard to sweep this into

2:19:10 > 2:19:15the line of the stone... Just misses. That is a real error from

2:19:15 > 2:19:20Lauren Gray, and we haven't seen too many from her this week.

2:19:20 > 2:19:24STEVE CRAM: That's what we were talking about, reading the ice

2:19:24 > 2:19:35early. A little heavy there.

2:19:35 > 2:19:43Now, Sweden...

2:19:46 > 2:20:00Knochenhauer, with the second. Going to take that British stone out.

2:20:00 > 2:20:12Well, a muted cheer for Japan, and at one point in that other match,

2:20:12 > 2:20:15that second end looked to be not going for them, but they picked up

2:20:15 > 2:20:20there two. The winners of the semifinals will play in the

2:20:20 > 2:20:28gold-medal match, at midnight on Saturday, UK time. The bronze

2:20:28 > 2:20:31Saturday, UK time. The bronze medal match, Saturday morning. Half past

2:20:31 > 2:20:40six.

2:20:40 > 2:20:44Eve was just asking for the same shot as Lauren has played, but the

2:20:44 > 2:20:49girls are wanting to play the run. Going to run the red onto the red in

2:20:49 > 2:20:58the house.How does it look...? She's played that well.Nice, very

2:20:58 > 2:21:04good. Taken both of them, that helps. It saves a stone. Sometimes

2:21:04 > 2:21:10you just get the one. Actually, Vicki played really well in that

2:21:10 > 2:21:20match against Canada. Got her shooting boots on.

2:21:27 > 2:21:34We've still left a yellow out in the front, and Sweden are going to try

2:21:34 > 2:21:38to use that to their advantage by coming in behind it.If you are new

2:21:38 > 2:21:40to the strategic manner of the game in terms of scoring, then you're

2:21:40 > 2:21:45trying to build an end and you always have the chance to blank and

2:21:45 > 2:21:49end if you have the hammer at it is not working out how you want it to,

2:21:49 > 2:21:55which is what Sweden deliberately did in the first end, they didn't

2:21:55 > 2:21:59even really try to score. It is an option for Britain now that they

2:21:59 > 2:22:04have the hammer.

2:22:10 > 2:22:14Well, it's standing room only in here, there's lots of people

2:22:14 > 2:22:19standing at the back, trying to get a good few. There seems to be a few

2:22:19 > 2:22:24seats they could be sitting in, but people deciding to stand and watch.

2:22:24 > 2:22:29Great crowds at the curling all the way through the round robin, even

2:22:29 > 2:22:36from the men's curling, the mixed doubles curling. So, Vicki trying to

2:22:36 > 2:22:44bring this one right in behind that yellow. Right there would be good!

2:22:44 > 2:22:52That's a nice shot. A fair bit of distance from the guard, but it's

2:22:52 > 2:23:02nicely tucked in and well swept by Lauren.

2:23:02 > 2:23:06PLAYER: Well swept. Sorry, I made you work!

2:23:06 > 2:23:17STEVE CRAM: Sorry, I made you work, says Vicki. So, Sara McManus, she is

2:23:17 > 2:23:21a real linchpin of this team, if she's playing well, the team plays

2:23:21 > 2:23:32well.So, again flare going to drive the yellow stone Great Britain back

2:23:32 > 2:23:37onto the other yellow. But didn't make contact, but she's cleared the

2:23:37 > 2:23:41front.

2:23:50 > 2:23:53So, Great Britain with the hammer here, and they will be quite happy

2:23:53 > 2:23:58to put one to the other side of the house. It may not be lying second

2:23:58 > 2:24:06shot, but as long as it's in the house. Eve's looking to get this one

2:24:06 > 2:24:13right onto the 12ft.

2:24:13 > 2:24:22PLAYER: Line's perfect.Yeah, just let it come... A little bit more,

2:24:22 > 2:24:28says Eve. That's nicely done.

2:24:45 > 2:24:54You always get the feeling these are two well matched teams. And they

2:24:54 > 2:24:57know each other's game inside out, they play each other so much on the

2:24:57 > 2:25:09circuit.Just came out of the other side there.

2:25:10 > 2:25:14She won't mind where that is, really.Yeah, as long as we keep

2:25:14 > 2:25:20putting a yellow stone in, another yellow stone in there. Two red

2:25:20 > 2:25:29stones of Sweden are behind the tee. They should be our friend because we

2:25:29 > 2:25:37can use them to push a stone back onto, or jam a stone on.So, Anna

2:25:37 > 2:25:43trying to repeat the stone she laid a moment or two ago. A little more

2:25:43 > 2:25:51weight on this one, though. You see, she can't go for the double, there's

2:25:51 > 2:25:55a nice angle but she can't go for the other yellow, because she will

2:25:55 > 2:25:58push it back onto the other reds. She's going to have to go for the

2:25:58 > 2:26:01open yellow here.

2:26:19 > 2:26:23Anna Hasselborg has had a lot of experience, still just 28th. She

2:26:23 > 2:26:28actually made her international debut in the European mixed event,

2:26:28 > 2:26:36not mixed doubles but she was in a mixed team, in 2008, ten years ago,

2:26:36 > 2:26:40with Nicklas, and Nicklas has got himself into the Olympic final,

2:26:40 > 2:26:45which he didn't manage to do last time, of course, beaten by Great

2:26:45 > 2:26:47Britain in the semi, and Anna Hasselborg hoping to avoid the same

2:26:47 > 2:26:56fate here.

2:26:56 > 2:27:04fate here. So, Eve just wanting to come in now and get tucked in that

2:27:04 > 2:27:09little pocket with those two reds behind, that would be nice.Yeah, if

2:27:09 > 2:27:13we can make these reds our friend and rest on top of them, that would

2:27:13 > 2:27:19be great. Have to be really careful where Eve's stone finishes, though,

2:27:19 > 2:27:24because we don't want to leave double. No, when you see it from,,

2:27:24 > 2:27:28and we are sitting right behind Eve Muirhead, and first of all, it looks

2:27:28 > 2:27:31a long way away! And secondly, those stones look a lot closer together

2:27:31 > 2:27:40from where we are sitting down when you see the overhead.

2:27:40 > 2:27:42you see the overhead. To drop in behind her own yellow would be

2:27:42 > 2:27:46perfect here.When you say it's a long way away, I think it's about

2:27:46 > 2:27:53150ft, the length of a curling rink. This has got a lot of work to do,

2:27:53 > 2:28:09though.Yeah, this is really high. Adages heavy from Eve.Goodness me!

2:28:10 > 2:28:16Just a bit heavy on her release here. You can hear the girls asking

2:28:16 > 2:28:20for times, they clock all the shots and they know what weight they

2:28:20 > 2:28:23should be throwing. They practise these shots day in, day out, looking

2:28:23 > 2:28:30for muscle memory to throw the same weight as you did on the end before,

2:28:30 > 2:28:36the shot before.Well, that's an opportunity missed for Great

2:28:36 > 2:28:39Britain, for Eve Muirhead. That's the first time she's been asked to

2:28:39 > 2:28:50really make a good draw. And she was a long way off.

2:28:50 > 2:28:59So, Anna Hasselborg can just tighten the screw a little bit here - has

2:28:59 > 2:29:07she got this at it straight? No. She might have taken one red there.

2:29:07 > 2:29:14Could she take both of them, or is she just going to take one? I think

2:29:14 > 2:29:22a blank might be an option here. She wants to score. Well, if she's going

2:29:22 > 2:29:25to score she'll have to play about better shot than she did a moment or

2:29:25 > 2:29:29two ago., yes. Just anywhere in the 4ft will do the job.Coming down

2:29:29 > 2:29:35that side again, if she comes up against those two stones, that would

2:29:35 > 2:29:43be fine. So, the two not available, she's going for the one. There was a

2:29:43 > 2:29:46chance for double takeout, but you don't want the risk of anything

2:29:46 > 2:29:52going wrong with that. And having Sweden extend their lead even more,

2:29:52 > 2:29:57so she's making sure that she gets one here - or trying to make sure.

2:29:57 > 2:30:04She didn't have this the same amount of ice, which is a good thing. Needs

2:30:04 > 2:30:10to turn... Looking pretty good.

2:30:13 > 2:30:21She gets her one. And now, the deficit just one. So after three

2:30:21 > 2:30:27ends, Sweden have the initiative. And again, all smiles from them.

2:30:27 > 2:30:33They force the one there, more through Eve not able to make a good

2:30:33 > 2:30:36first shop with her first stone, rather than great play from Sweden.

2:30:36 > 2:30:50But they do lead 2-1 after three ends.

2:30:51 > 2:30:55Getting some great reaction shots, all the slow motions and super slow

2:30:55 > 2:31:03motions. Great facial expressions.

2:31:18 > 2:31:22Well, it is early initiative to Sweden, but this is almost falling

2:31:22 > 2:31:26into the pattern of many British women's matches, where they don't

2:31:26 > 2:31:31make the best of starts and improve, and get better. Looking around the

2:31:31 > 2:31:36arena, Jackie, and all the way down the far side, people are standing

2:31:36 > 2:31:41all the way at the back. Most of them who aren't in their seats are

2:31:41 > 2:31:47over at the site where the Korea and Japan matches being played. A lot of

2:31:47 > 2:31:51British fans here as well, and indeed, quite a few Swedes as well.

2:31:51 > 2:31:55Let's hope they have something to cheer about. It is a wonderful

2:31:55 > 2:32:01crowd. Lots of the national delegates from the curling

2:32:01 > 2:32:09Association is all in watching their players here on the ice.

2:32:10 > 2:32:12players here on the ice. All of them, of course, keen for their own

2:32:12 > 2:32:18teams to do well, because it sells their sport a bit more. The World

2:32:18 > 2:32:21Cup Federation today saying they are pleased that they had seven

2:32:21 > 2:32:26different nations competing in these stages, and that's what they're

2:32:26 > 2:32:31looking for. You don't want one Nation dominated it all the time.

2:32:31 > 2:32:36You want growth and expansion, and it is certainly happening. I heard

2:32:36 > 2:32:40you, Steve, speaking about the Canadians. Their coaches are going

2:32:40 > 2:32:44to all parts of the world, teaching what they did in Canada. Canada has

2:32:44 > 2:32:52to watch now and keep up with the rest of the world. That's what

2:32:52 > 2:32:56happens, you see, you get good, invent the sport, like we did in the

2:32:56 > 2:33:00UK. The rest of the world starts playing, and we can't get anywhere

2:33:00 > 2:33:08near them.Of course! This sport does

2:33:08 > 2:33:14does originate from Scotland.Just have to cut this in, if they can.

2:33:14 > 2:33:22Nicely done by Lauren. You can just see, it didn't tuck incompletely

2:33:22 > 2:33:35behind the guard, as you can see. Sofia

2:33:35 > 2:33:41Sofia Mabergs. The facial expressions are great. Calling and

2:33:41 > 2:33:50communication, a bit of hard work here. This is looking pretty good.

2:33:50 > 2:33:57Sweden haven't done anything wrong yet. 2-3 errors we have seen, one

2:33:57 > 2:34:05from Lauren in the previous end.

2:34:05 > 2:34:07from Lauren in the previous end.All of these athletes downed there in

2:34:07 > 2:34:15the gym training. Every day, on the ice, practising. Both of these teams

2:34:15 > 2:34:19we see competing just now, the Swedish girls and Great Britain

2:34:19 > 2:34:28girls, they are full-time curlers, it is what they do, day in, day out.

2:34:28 > 2:34:32All hoping to achieve that Olympic dream of theirs, putting a gold

2:34:32 > 2:34:38medal round about their necks.Vicki catching that one a little bit on

2:34:38 > 2:34:44the wrong side. We've talked a lot about the various programmes now

2:34:44 > 2:34:47being conducted in different countries, some of them very small,

2:34:47 > 2:34:56but very focused. The Korean team have been playing together since

2:34:56 > 2:35:03school. And if they are successful here, if they get to the final in

2:35:03 > 2:35:08particular, then they've already been very successful. It is only

2:35:08 > 2:35:12going to help curling in this part of the world. The next Winter

2:35:12 > 2:35:16Olympics are in Beijing in four years' time. Chinaman presented here

2:35:16 > 2:35:20in the women's competition. Not in the mens, they were in the mixed

2:35:20 > 2:35:23doubles.

2:35:28 > 2:35:34So has Vicki Adams got it right this time?Yeah, we're just looking for a

2:35:34 > 2:35:37nice weight that the girls can control and get a little hit and

2:35:37 > 2:35:42control.We have seen 3-4 similar shots from both teams here, just not

2:35:42 > 2:35:47able to get over. Again, although Knochenhauer couldn't with her last

2:35:47 > 2:35:51one, she has been given a chance to do it again this time. These are all

2:35:51 > 2:35:58little things. It appears to be running a little bit straight down

2:35:58 > 2:36:04that side of the ice. But you have to be careful, if you duck your turn

2:36:04 > 2:36:08under, it probably will pull towards the centre line very quickly. Yeah,

2:36:08 > 2:36:12the smallest of margins can make a big difference at the other end of

2:36:12 > 2:36:20the sheet. We're watching these stones come down towards us. This

2:36:20 > 2:36:25has got a better chance. Might be a bit too much this time. A British

2:36:25 > 2:36:35stone goes out. They've got one now at the back, just going into the 12

2:36:35 > 2:36:42foot. It's behind that guard as well.

2:36:49 > 2:36:52So important that these two teams here can stick to the task and block

2:36:52 > 2:37:01out everything that is going on in the arena.

2:37:01 > 2:37:10the arena.Anna Sloan is going to play a hack weight here. If you

2:37:10 > 2:37:14throw it down the ice, it would land on the fact that the other end.

2:37:14 > 2:37:17Working hard to move this stone closer to the red. We're going to

2:37:17 > 2:37:25catch it? Just not enough.

2:37:25 > 2:37:28catch it? Just not enough. It is a game of half shot at the moment from

2:37:28 > 2:37:32a British perspective. Another story from Anna Sloan. Not quite getting

2:37:32 > 2:37:37things to work.

2:37:49 > 2:37:56Staying patient, though, Jackie. Good. Sweden do have the opportunity

2:37:56 > 2:38:00to better that shot and come in behind their red. They will want to

2:38:00 > 2:38:05stop tee-high. Anywhere on the top half of the circle. If they come in

2:38:05 > 2:38:08too far, it is an easy shot for Great Britain to sit on top of. We

2:38:08 > 2:38:14will be able to see all of that, I think. So, another opportunity for

2:38:14 > 2:38:19Anna to hit that stone, roll across. And if she's lucky, take the back

2:38:19 > 2:38:24rooms and one as well.Come on then, Anna, let's have a good one here.

2:38:24 > 2:38:30Great Britain just not quite making their shots up to this point. Still

2:38:30 > 2:38:40just in the Matt -- fourth end here. It is amazing how one or two shots

2:38:40 > 2:38:43change the momentum a little bit. Definitely, things favouring Sweden

2:38:43 > 2:38:48at the moment.

2:38:48 > 2:38:52at the moment. She has done well there. That's a good shot. They have

2:38:52 > 2:38:56both gone, Eve's having a look. Keeping the shooter in line with the

2:38:56 > 2:39:01yellow. It has come out the other side a bit orbit. That one still in.

2:39:01 > 2:39:12Anna has a look as well. Just touching, perhaps.

2:39:12 > 2:39:15touching, perhaps. Would you reckon, Jackie?I think that's out. Yeah.

2:39:15 > 2:39:21That was a great shot.Important shot there, that will make Anna feel

2:39:21 > 2:39:27an awful lot better.

2:39:34 > 2:39:42It would be nice if you've good tuck one in here. Make it difficult for

2:39:42 > 2:39:49Anna Hasselborg. A cheer as Korea have picked up one in the third.

2:39:49 > 2:39:54Japan just hanging on to them, just about. 4-2 after three ends, Korea

2:39:54 > 2:40:01lead.

2:40:01 > 2:40:05lead. If you're going to play a couple of bad shots, play them in

2:40:05 > 2:40:10the first 2-3 ends, then be really good after that.Yeah, or sometimes

2:40:10 > 2:40:13play them first. If you can play your second shot better, you make up

2:40:13 > 2:40:19for your first one.We are looking for the accuracy to improve as this

2:40:19 > 2:40:26match goes on. It will have to if Eve Muirhead is to be at her best.

2:40:26 > 2:40:34Has she got the little role in? Almost, not quite.

2:40:34 > 2:40:37Almost, not quite. So, Anna Hasselborg will try to do what Eve

2:40:37 > 2:40:45Muirhead couldn't quite do there. Just having a little look.

2:40:52 > 2:40:58Sweden looking for any little bit of height to make it difficult for Eve

2:40:58 > 2:41:07to see it or better it.

2:41:07 > 2:41:12It would be great if Great Britain could force a one again here if

2:41:12 > 2:41:23Sweden do get the two, then that would be 4-1. Hasselborg started

2:41:25 > 2:41:30well. Hasn't had too difficult a shot to make, though, it is more Eve

2:41:30 > 2:41:39not able to make hers, forced to one in the last end. Yeah, just on the

2:41:39 > 2:41:52nose there. Can Eve get this right?

2:42:02 > 2:42:06So, Eve just trying the same shot again. Just control it, and if she

2:42:06 > 2:42:19get a bit of a roll, that would make it difficult for Sweden.

2:42:19 > 2:42:26So, those piercing blue eyes of Eve Muirhead watching intently. In the

2:42:26 > 2:42:29early exchanges, Sweden have definitely had the upper hand. Eve

2:42:29 > 2:42:35Muirhead trying to rest that a wave from Ben here. Tucking it in behind

2:42:35 > 2:42:42the yellow, hitting it on the nose. Anna, saying they want it in the

2:42:42 > 2:42:46centre, but it is just not finishing. She had another look.

2:42:46 > 2:42:51McManus has gone to see if that is in or not. That is significant. They

2:42:51 > 2:42:59can bank the end. But if she thinks that's in, they can get two. It

2:42:59 > 2:43:06better be right, from their point of view. Only one stone left, don't

2:43:06 > 2:43:14forget. The options are, that obviously looks out, but that is

2:43:14 > 2:43:20because the camera is over the top and zoomed in on it.Leave is

2:43:20 > 2:43:27looking with one eye and leaning over.

2:43:30 > 2:43:38They might ask for a measure. The umpire can come in.How accurate,

2:43:38 > 2:43:44the outside of the red line...When you go to a competition like this,

2:43:44 > 2:43:49the umpires will tell you how well the rings have been made. If there

2:43:49 > 2:43:54are any of them slightly out or an error in the detail, and you would

2:43:54 > 2:43:59think, at this level, the ring should be purple. She is either

2:43:59 > 2:44:05blanking this or she thinks that's in. She thinks that in.No, she's

2:44:05 > 2:44:15trying to blanket.That is in.Oh, my goodness.That's in.It is in.

2:44:15 > 2:44:20One is in, so have they got one or have they got two? They're going to

2:44:20 > 2:44:26have to measure it. This would be a was old for Great Britain if they've

2:44:26 > 2:44:30held Sweden to one. She was definitely trying to blank that one

2:44:30 > 2:44:36there. But it wasn't a great shot. She thought it was out because she

2:44:36 > 2:44:49was trying to blank it. Let's hope she's right. That is out.Out.

2:44:53 > 2:45:01So, a little bit of a let-off therefore Great Britain, because she

2:45:01 > 2:45:10could have blanked the end there. Some work to do here and we could be

2:45:10 > 2:45:22all tied up. Was that a little error from Hasselborg?Yep. She didn't

2:45:22 > 2:45:25want to overthrow that, though, because she knew she had to catch

2:45:25 > 2:45:32it. So, advantage back to Great Britain, as Steve so, but if we can

2:45:32 > 2:45:39pick up our two, we are right back in this game. -- as Steve said. You

2:45:39 > 2:45:45can see Kyle Smith right in the middle, sitting on the step. Logan

2:45:45 > 2:45:49is at the back as well, watching his sister, and the Swedish fans in the

2:45:49 > 2:45:54arena, spindle around.

2:45:56 > 2:46:02arena, spindle around. -- sprinkled around. Any of the encounters

2:46:02 > 2:46:05between these two, you're almost assured it's going to go right down

2:46:05 > 2:46:10to the wire. One team will always have a bit of an upper hand at any

2:46:10 > 2:46:17one point. Definitely being Sweden early on. Claudio Patz with a little

2:46:17 > 2:46:26bit of a let-off there. It would have been a blanked end but it just

2:46:26 > 2:46:30stopped Sweden getting their two.

2:46:55 > 2:47:04PLAYER: Line is good!

2:47:04 > 2:47:12Easy, easy, good.

2:47:12 > 2:47:21STEVE CRAM: So, a corner guard put up by Lauren Gray.

2:47:26 > 2:47:33We were in the hotel where we are staying, Jackie and we bumped in

2:47:33 > 2:47:37Pontus Jansson you did! I sort of stud in the background! Sweden, of

2:47:37 > 2:47:44course, have got hobbled gold medallists in their broadcasting

2:47:44 > 2:47:53team?No, she's not, she's part of the Association, I want to say the

2:47:53 > 2:47:57Olympic Association, the IOC.Oh, Ishii Hammett or is it maybe just

2:47:57 > 2:48:03the curling Association? She is here in a curling capacity. Just to give

2:48:03 > 2:48:09you a bit of history of Sweden's performance in the Olympic Games.

2:48:09 > 2:48:16Bronze medal in Nagano in 1988, gold in 2006 and gold in 2010 and a

2:48:16 > 2:48:22silver in 2014.

2:48:24 > 2:48:28silver in 2014.It's maybe the world curling federation that she is part

2:48:28 > 2:48:38of here, working with the team. Had to look that one up!

2:48:47 > 2:48:54We're a all trying to stay fairly calm here, because still early days,

2:48:54 > 2:49:01and although Sweden are leading 3-1, a good end could tie things up or at

2:49:01 > 2:49:10least only be one behind perhaps. Already chasing the match a little

2:49:10 > 2:49:24bit. That one's gone.

2:49:25 > 2:49:31So, Eve has got a couple of opportunities here. She indicated a

2:49:31 > 2:49:35couple of ideas there. She could tap her red in behind the other red and

2:49:35 > 2:49:41move the other red across behind the yellow. Or she could just ignore it

2:49:41 > 2:49:46and just draw one in. If she used the red, she could tap the red right

2:49:46 > 2:49:50out, but she's just going to ignore that and brought in behind our

2:49:50 > 2:49:56yellow.

2:49:56 > 2:49:59yellow. -- and draw in. It's that whole idea of just trying to set

2:49:59 > 2:50:06something up for yourself. When there's only one stone in the house

2:50:06 > 2:50:15- another one coming in now but... That's a nice stone. But if it's not

2:50:15 > 2:50:24building, you do have the chance of course to try and blank. Sweden

2:50:24 > 2:50:31won't want that to happen, if possible. Just having a look at

2:50:31 > 2:50:35this, getting the yellow guard onto the other one - pretty much lined

2:50:35 > 2:50:46up. She might have got this. Oh, just misses. And the other red spins

2:50:46 > 2:50:52across. And that could be handy as well.

2:50:52 > 2:50:56JACKIE LOCKHART: Yeah, we can utilise these reds to our advantage.

2:50:56 > 2:51:03We can play on that red now, a little flop across to the other ones

2:51:03 > 2:51:12would be perfect.Yeah, Vicki missed a couple of these by not very much

2:51:12 > 2:51:15last time, so if she can just make a slight adjustment. This is going

2:51:15 > 2:51:22down the other side, though.

2:51:22 > 2:51:23down the other side, though. Just role in behind the other two sitting

2:51:23 > 2:51:27out in front of the house, and we would be sitting in a nice position.

2:51:27 > 2:51:34Has she got it enough? Push it over a bitter! Too straight.

2:51:55 > 2:52:03What's funny here at the curling is that there's very few what I would

2:52:03 > 2:52:07call dignitary seats, there's no special area. There's a row of

2:52:07 > 2:52:13seats, around 10-15, and so many people have turned up for the four

2:52:13 > 2:52:20teams' representatives, it's standing room only!

2:52:20 > 2:52:25standing room only! A little straight again as well. I'm sort of

2:52:25 > 2:52:30pleased that McManus isn't quite making her shots. I don't know what

2:52:30 > 2:52:39she's shooting so far, Jackie... She's on 75.Yeah, because when on

2:52:39 > 2:52:43fire, she keeps tugging these away. She's very good at that.Yeah, the

2:52:43 > 2:52:48last time they played against us, Sara McManus was having a great

2:52:48 > 2:52:53game.

2:52:55 > 2:53:01game.This has got a better chance thank you yeah, that's better. Much

2:53:01 > 2:53:10better. It was pretty close to those front stones, but two in there now,

2:53:10 > 2:53:14one tucked in.

2:53:27 > 2:53:34So, Sweden turning their attention to the other side, then. McManus is

2:53:34 > 2:53:38going to replace that yellow with a red. Going to go over, though, is

2:53:38 > 2:53:46it? Not quite. Good try.It is a nice attempt but I think we will

2:53:46 > 2:53:55still be able to see the edge of that. Unfortunately in these

2:53:55 > 2:54:02circumstances, Anna's a left-handed player, so she's sitting on the

2:54:02 > 2:54:11right hack and as a result she will probably be seeing less of. --

2:54:11 > 2:54:20seeing less.Almost right on the centre line. They've set this out a

2:54:20 > 2:54:25little wide... Better that than hitting the guard, though, I think.

2:54:25 > 2:54:32Now, is this going to turn in...? Is it going to catch the guard? It

2:54:32 > 2:54:40does. She's done well there.Yes, that is a well-controlled stone,

2:54:40 > 2:54:47well played and well-controlled by the sweepers.Just trying to keep

2:54:47 > 2:54:53pressure back on to Sweden here, just keep making your shots, ask

2:54:53 > 2:55:01them to make theirs. So, Great Britain in with two now, that one at

2:55:01 > 2:55:08the top nicely tucked in. So, once more, Swedish skip with her eyes on

2:55:08 > 2:55:15that back yellow. So, Japan have picked up another one, to close the

2:55:15 > 2:55:26gap, that's 4-3. Korea with the three in the very first end, got the

2:55:26 > 2:55:32advantage early, a little like Sweden in this match here.

2:55:46 > 2:55:55Well, if they trade stones, then we'll get our two.Just as the

2:55:55 > 2:56:02textbook would tell us!That was a nice shot, it was Anna who played

2:56:02 > 2:56:10that one, wasn't it? Just to get the yellow tucked in.

2:56:16 > 2:56:19Yeah, they were saying how down the middle here, it's not doing too much

2:56:19 > 2:56:25at all, is it? Staying pretty straight.Yeah, because we've seen a

2:56:25 > 2:56:30few times the girls trying to get a little hit and roll, but it's

2:56:30 > 2:56:38running so straight. So, Eve Muirhead, then, trying to make sure

2:56:38 > 2:56:50she keeps the opportunity for a two. Well done.

2:56:58 > 2:57:08Well, there haven't been too many dramatics so far in this match, it's

2:57:08 > 2:57:11being a little bit of a cat and mouse affair, but you can feel Great

2:57:11 > 2:57:15Britain just warming to the task here and getting their two here

2:57:15 > 2:57:22would be a great way to go in to the half-time break. After five ends,

2:57:22 > 2:57:31things level. A couple of stones to be played, though.

2:57:33 > 2:57:35be played, though. We've got two in the house, Hasselborg will take this

2:57:35 > 2:57:45one out. Oh, she's done a good job, took that right over. It's going to

2:57:45 > 2:57:52be quite steep, though. But it IS counting, that's important. -- quite

2:57:52 > 2:57:57deep. That is a very good shot, actually.Yeah, it is, it is tucked

2:57:57 > 2:58:05in right in behind, I'm not sure Eve will be able to play it... She might

2:58:05 > 2:58:10be able to play a back ring weight. She has played a great shot there,

2:58:10 > 2:58:16it caught me out, that one, I was already giving us two! It's never

2:58:16 > 2:58:23over until it's over in the curling game! No! She CAN get to it.Yep,

2:58:23 > 2:58:28you've just got to believe the stone will pull across that centreline.

2:58:28 > 2:58:36She's got to get a lot of that stone, though, to stay in. So, Eve

2:58:36 > 2:58:42Muirhead, then, with a real test here, just was beginning to relax,

2:58:42 > 2:58:45thinking she might have a much easier stone to deliver to get a

2:58:45 > 2:58:51two. Now, she's got to find a way around, on the right line, with the

2:58:51 > 2:58:57right weight, to hit that red at the back... It's got a chance... Has Eve

2:58:57 > 2:59:03Muirhead played a cracker here? Just needs to tap it... She has indeed!

2:59:03 > 2:59:06Well done, Eve Muirhead! That will make her feel very good indeed! A

2:59:06 > 2:59:14superb shot to finish fifth end, and after an early advantage to Sweden,

2:59:14 > 2:59:19we're all tied up at 3-3 in this match.

2:59:24 > 2:59:29CLARE BALDING: David Murdoch is with me in the studio watching, gripped

2:59:29 > 2:59:35by the game. It is tied with Sweden but they have the early advantage.

2:59:35 > 2:59:41They did, yeah. Sweden got in front, two on the board, ahead. It meant

2:59:41 > 2:59:45Eve had to play more offensive curling. It is tough to get two back

2:59:45 > 2:59:50and get back into the game. What we have seen just now, an incredible

2:59:50 > 2:59:54hit and roll by Anna Hasselborg, looking like a guaranteed two points

2:59:54 > 2:59:58to Great Britain, and left Eve a tough shot. Even played a great

2:59:58 > 3:00:05shot. It will give her great momentum. An incident in end two,

3:00:05 > 3:00:08Anna Sloan touching a stone by mistake. Let's listen to what she

3:00:08 > 3:00:14says.

3:00:14 > 3:00:21I touched that.

3:00:23 > 3:00:33Sorry.I think it was moving.OK.

3:00:37 > 3:00:43Did you have a speed on it?Did you have a speed on it?

3:00:43 > 3:00:47I don't think it was flying. I don't think it made that much

3:00:47 > 3:00:53difference.

3:00:53 > 3:00:59That would never have gone out.

3:00:59 > 3:01:04CLARE BALDING: That would never have gone out. Talk through what the

3:01:04 > 3:01:07options are there. It is up to the Swedish skipper to decide what to do

3:01:07 > 3:01:14with it.Great Britain were the offending team. Anna flicked it with

3:01:14 > 3:01:19her foot, it which gives Sweden options. They can leave it, move it

3:01:19 > 3:01:23to where they think it would go, or they can completely remove it if

3:01:23 > 3:01:27they really wanted to be a bit nasty.Hasselborg has been quite

3:01:27 > 3:01:33sporting.She has. It looks like Anna has slowed it down. Anna is

3:01:33 > 3:01:39moving the stone out a bit and says it would have roles to hear, which

3:01:39 > 3:01:43is fair and sportsmanlike from the Swedes. You can see and the stone

3:01:43 > 3:01:51with her foot, and you can see there is a bit more speed on it. It slows

3:01:51 > 3:01:54down Aegerter bit. Probably the correct decision. Is curling like

3:01:54 > 3:02:05cricket in that behaviour is really important

3:02:05 > 3:02:13important.Generally, throughout the season, we are our own umpires. We

3:02:13 > 3:02:17make sure we stick to this. It is important to have that kind of

3:02:17 > 3:02:21etiquette and stick to the rules. That little mistake may not have

3:02:21 > 3:02:23been the only cause, but at

3:02:23 > 3:02:23That little mistake may not have been the only cause, but at the end

3:02:23 > 3:02:26of end two, Sweden were in a position where they could take two

3:02:26 > 3:02:35and take advantage. That's right. The Swedes had a well worked end.

3:02:35 > 3:02:41Anna Hasselborg delivers the stone for two points. A routine shot, a

3:02:41 > 3:02:45straight, no set. You can see, she is not throwing too well. They had

3:02:45 > 3:02:50to sweep the whole way. It would have been a guaranteed two, which

3:02:50 > 3:02:54would have been a roll out, but she gets lucky to get a hit on her own

3:02:54 > 3:03:00one and still get two points. A mistake. But she gets away with it.

3:03:00 > 3:03:00one and still get two points. A mistake. But she gets away with it.

3:03:00 > 3:03:04Were those signs of nerves?Yeah, we have seen nerves on both sides,

3:03:04 > 3:03:09which we thought we would do, being an Olympics a final. It is a case of

3:03:09 > 3:03:15going into the last microbe quod ends, -- microcode ends.

3:03:15 > 3:03:15going into the last microbe quod ends, -- microcode ends.

3:03:15 > 3:03:19Anna Hasselborg wasn't sure if her stone was in or not. It is

3:03:19 > 3:03:22extraordinary that we can see on the camera that it is not in. But the

3:03:22 > 3:03:27players themselves don't know. They aren't going to know until the

3:03:27 > 3:03:31measurement comes out right at the end. That is right. You look at it,

3:03:31 > 3:03:36and you think, is this in? It is really close, should I hit it and

3:03:36 > 3:03:40take two, or roll out and blank the end? Team Sweden they would blank

3:03:40 > 3:03:45the end. They were confident the stone was out on the wing, but

3:03:45 > 3:03:49another mistake from Hasselborg, she doesn't roll out, and she lies in

3:03:49 > 3:03:57the ring. The measure now goes

3:03:57 > 3:03:59the ring. The measure now goes on to see if it is two points or just one.

3:03:59 > 3:04:03This is millimetres. There's nothing in it. Curling is a game of

3:04:03 > 3:04:08millimetres, look how close it is. Out

3:04:08 > 3:04:10millimetres, look how close it is. Out by just a millimetre.Unlucky

3:04:10 > 3:04:13for Sweden, in that they didn't roll out and blank, or they would have

3:04:13 > 3:04:18carried the hammer on. What a shot from Eve at the end of end five,

3:04:18 > 3:04:19carried the hammer on. What a shot from Eve at the end of end five, the

3:04:19 > 3:04:22last action before the half-time break. Explain why this is

3:04:22 > 3:04:27difficult.It is very difficult. It was looking like a guaranteed two

3:04:27 > 3:04:30for Britain. Anna Sloan played two to refix tones that end, setting it

3:04:30 > 3:04:35up for Eve. Hasselborg played it brilliant in behind the guards,

3:04:35 > 3:04:41leaving Eve a delicate tag back. They work well with the sweepers,

3:04:41 > 3:04:49perfectly weighted to allow it to curl, allowing the stone in. A

3:04:49 > 3:04:49brilliantly played stone to

3:04:49 > 3:04:50curl, allowing the stone in. A brilliantly played stone to get two

3:04:50 > 3:04:54on the board.Does it give either momentum, do Team GB have the

3:04:54 > 3:04:59advantage with the scores level? They will feel that now. They will

3:04:59 > 3:05:03feel they have jostled in the first five ends, putting two on the board

3:05:03 > 3:05:08now. They know that within themselves, the last five ends have

3:05:08 > 3:05:12been best August all week. Fingers crossed, that is the case today.

3:05:12 > 3:05:16They will get stronger in his guitar, let's rejoin Jackie Lockhart

3:05:16 > 3:05:19and Steve Cram. The winner of the semifinal goes into the gold medal

3:05:19 > 3:05:21match in the women's curling.

3:05:23 > 3:05:28COMMENTATOR: All to play for, and we were listening to the half-time chat

3:05:28 > 3:05:34between the two teams, I couldn't understand the Swedish, but I could

3:05:34 > 3:05:37with the British team. It was really interesting, Glenn Howard and Eve

3:05:37 > 3:05:45Muirhead just talking strategy about what they were going to do. It

3:05:45 > 3:05:48sounded like a bit more aggressive, talking about what they would do if

3:05:48 > 3:05:56Sweden put up a corner guard. So it's not a case of just coming out

3:05:56 > 3:06:00and seeing how things go, they really are thinking it through even

3:06:00 > 3:06:04from the first stone when they come out. Lauren has played a nice one in

3:06:04 > 3:06:07their match with the guard she put out. That is Lauren Gray there,

3:06:07 > 3:06:11University of Glasgow graduate. English literature and politics.

3:06:11 > 3:06:22Right girl. -- bright girl. She can come Prime Minister and be very

3:06:22 > 3:06:28eloquent.

3:06:30 > 3:06:40Is this going to catch? No, it's not. Yes, it is. Just talk, Jackie,

3:06:40 > 3:06:45there was, I was reading a piece about one of the skips talking about

3:06:45 > 3:06:50the ice warming up a bit, changing the way it was curling. It sounded

3:06:50 > 3:06:56like more of an excuse than anything else. I think, that was from the

3:06:56 > 3:07:02other day. Sometimes they come out after the half-time break, people

3:07:02 > 3:07:07have had a break, read the ice, can it change that quickly if no one

3:07:07 > 3:07:14plays on it for ten minutes is a?It can, actually. What also can change

3:07:14 > 3:07:17is your dynamics. You have been playing constantly one end after the

3:07:17 > 3:07:24other, and you have 4- five minute break, and it can be used that comes

3:07:24 > 3:07:31out and not through the stone as well. The ice has been left sitting

3:07:31 > 3:07:34for that four minutes. The ice technicians do a huge amount of work

3:07:34 > 3:07:40on an ice rink, and they constantly take the temperature. If it changes

3:07:40 > 3:07:45outside, the audience, if it is too hot with the spectators, you can

3:07:45 > 3:07:50find that when you get to eight, nine, ten, it may be gets flat, the

3:07:50 > 3:07:55eyes. So they had to be aware of all these situations across a whole

3:07:55 > 3:08:02game.

3:08:04 > 3:08:09-- the ice. Eve Muirhead, I apologise to those

3:08:09 > 3:08:15of you that what curling, but new people are joining us, and maybe the

3:08:15 > 3:08:19rules aren't always evident. The team have played the stone, they can

3:08:19 > 3:08:27sweep that stone all the way in. On the tee line, the opposing team can

3:08:27 > 3:08:34sweep it if they like.

3:08:34 > 3:08:43Every up in the match against Japan -- Korea up. The winners of this

3:08:43 > 3:08:52match play the winners of Korea and Japan will

3:08:52 > 3:09:02Vicky Adams playing second. They had to keep concentrating, because it

3:09:02 > 3:09:09might even help these guys. In the semis, you had to go eight ends, you

3:09:09 > 3:09:16can't finish after six. You are there for at least eight ends.

3:09:16 > 3:09:21Vicki, long, long guard there. It has stopped, but it is high. She

3:09:21 > 3:09:29wanted to make sure she was guarding the one that there. Another

3:09:29 > 3:09:33opportunity. She's not going to do it, actually, she's going to clear

3:09:33 > 3:09:38the front, she has the last stone advantage, so she has decided it is

3:09:38 > 3:09:46too long a guard there. Sweden is just going to remove it.

3:09:46 > 3:09:51Knochenhauer.

3:09:54 > 3:09:57Knochenhauer.She would have liked to try to get the yellow at the top

3:09:57 > 3:10:00of the ring.I saw Eve Muirhead wander across to see whether that

3:10:00 > 3:10:08was likely to happen, but she missed and just took the one. So, Anna

3:10:08 > 3:10:14Sloan then.

3:10:16 > 3:10:19Sloan then. She has another chance to put a bit of bother out in front

3:10:19 > 3:10:25there for Sweden.

3:10:27 > 3:10:31The crowd milling around the halfway point reached in that match between

3:10:31 > 3:10:35Korea and Japan.

3:10:35 > 3:10:41This line looks a little better, further up towards the house. Nicely

3:10:41 > 3:10:49done. She's looking again for the similar shot. She would love to take

3:10:49 > 3:10:56two of them out here. McManus will have her first, she's got two

3:10:56 > 3:11:05stones. So she can take both yellows with a first one.

3:11:05 > 3:11:14It's got a chance, this. Well... She does take the other yellow, leaves

3:11:14 > 3:11:20one sitting on the button there. So, Eve will look to put another guard

3:11:20 > 3:11:27out in front.

3:11:27 > 3:11:31She'll want to keep this one just outside the house, if possible. If

3:11:31 > 3:11:35you bring it into the house, you are giving them the opportunity of a hit

3:11:35 > 3:11:43and a roll in, bringing it all into the house. The point here, at the

3:11:43 > 3:11:46half-time break, you wouldn't have heard, but Glenn Howard saying, play

3:11:46 > 3:11:50your shots, keep it simple, and if we end up blanking the end,

3:11:50 > 3:11:57obviously, that's Sweden's choice, but that would be a good result. So,

3:11:57 > 3:12:01how has Anna Sloan done here? They will have to get a little bit close

3:12:01 > 3:12:09up, but keep it on the centreline there. That's not bad at all.

3:12:16 > 3:12:21Not much to choose in terms of statistics between the teams here,

3:12:21 > 3:12:29Great Britain a little bit down on draw accuracy. I think that was a

3:12:29 > 3:12:34couple of the early misses, one from Lauren and one from Eve, a couple

3:12:34 > 3:12:39may be from Eve. Not much to choose between them, hence the score the

3:12:39 > 3:12:44same, but Sweden with a hammer here. The hammer in the sixth... I don't

3:12:44 > 3:12:49know why I say it, but we never end up with the hammer staying with the

3:12:49 > 3:12:54teams from the sixth to the eighth, to the tent. Nicely around the guard

3:12:54 > 3:13:01there.

3:13:01 > 3:13:08The power of sweeping there from teams Sweden.

3:13:11 > 3:13:14Smiles more than anything else from Anna Hasselborg, pleased with away

3:13:14 > 3:13:20her team is playing. We just need to keep the pressure on here and make

3:13:20 > 3:13:24sure we hit and stick.I think it's really important that Great Britain

3:13:24 > 3:13:30just keep Sweden close right until the last two ends, just keep them

3:13:30 > 3:13:34close. Don't let a gap appear. If you're one behind, even two, don't

3:13:34 > 3:13:41let them get away. Great Britain have been finishing off matches

3:13:41 > 3:13:48really well, better than anybody.

3:13:48 > 3:13:57Great shot.It's just hangs on.

3:13:57 > 3:14:03Good sweep.

3:14:03 > 3:14:12Sometimes these stones on the outside can be tricky as well.

3:14:13 > 3:14:20Are we heading for a blanked end, do you think?

3:14:21 > 3:14:27you think?I think the ice she's taken there, she's going to try and

3:14:27 > 3:14:33come around the centre.

3:14:33 > 3:14:35come around the centre. The other option is to try and score here, but

3:14:35 > 3:14:42if she... If she decides a blank end is the better option, it just means

3:14:42 > 3:14:45nothing counts, no stones in the house, and we move onto the next

3:14:45 > 3:14:56end... So, it just means, it's the sort of thing you do when you have

3:14:56 > 3:15:06not managed to get a good scoring opportunity.

3:15:06 > 3:15:10opportunity. So, she's still trying to manufacture an opportunity for

3:15:10 > 3:15:18herself here, going to draw in... This could actually curl right out

3:15:18 > 3:15:23the other side. Sheep just wants to get enough to knock out the GB

3:15:23 > 3:15:34yellow. So, how much will Eve Muirhead see of that red stone?

3:15:34 > 3:15:39She's just wondering whether or not she can see enough. And whether she

3:15:39 > 3:15:45can tucked in behind the yellow, I don't know. Maybe not enough to see,

3:15:45 > 3:15:51so she's going to draw.

3:15:56 > 3:16:00so she's going to draw. That's the line that Eve will be setting her

3:16:00 > 3:16:07stone out on.

3:16:09 > 3:16:15So, we saw a really good shot at the end of the fifth end from Eve

3:16:15 > 3:16:23Muirhead, but she had an attempt to draw right in close which didn't go

3:16:23 > 3:16:31so well earlier on. Trying to make it difficult for Hasselborg, she may

3:16:31 > 3:16:35well still have a chance for a two. This has got a fair bit of work to

3:16:35 > 3:16:42do, so the sweepers trying their best here... Vicki and Lauren, got

3:16:42 > 3:16:45to keep bringing,, got to keep working, got to go a little bit

3:16:45 > 3:16:55more...Very well swept! I could hear no calling from the team and I

3:16:55 > 3:16:58was just worried that they were not going to be getting it there! But

3:16:58 > 3:17:00they weren't shouting, they were just putting the work into that

3:17:00 > 3:17:07stone.Yeah, she's just seeing how much she can see of that stone. Not

3:17:07 > 3:17:14a lot, but enough probably that she can push it back and still get a

3:17:14 > 3:17:24two. She's just seeing how much she can see.We can't see the angles

3:17:24 > 3:17:29that well, but there's possibly two opportunities for Sweden to score

3:17:29 > 3:17:35here, because she can come down the same way as Eve has just drawn and

3:17:35 > 3:17:38tap it through. But she could possibly come down on the other

3:17:38 > 3:17:43side, and tap a red onto the yellow. It is preference in terms of what

3:17:43 > 3:17:46you want to play and how much you can see from the other end. It's not

3:17:46 > 3:17:51straightforward, though. She's going to come down the same piece of ice

3:17:51 > 3:17:57as Eve Muirhead, but she can see a bit of that stone, she's needs to

3:17:57 > 3:18:04have enough weight to move it, so not taking as much ice. She wants to

3:18:04 > 3:18:09try and push that British stone back and all Mac sitting there for two,

3:18:09 > 3:18:16if she can. She's got to get the weight right.

3:18:16 > 3:18:20weight right. Now, how is your luck...? How is your luck...? She

3:18:20 > 3:18:25may well have done it. She's done very well indeed. So, a good shot

3:18:25 > 3:18:30again from the Swedish shipped, and she picks up a two, and once more

3:18:30 > 3:18:36Sweden have a two-shot lead, and a. Pressure applied then just add that

3:18:36 > 3:18:39just tucked in another inch or two she would not have been able to make

3:18:39 > 3:18:46that shot. Smallest of margins, as ever, in curling. But it means that

3:18:46 > 3:18:49Sweden have taken advantage, and you have to hand it to Hasselborg,

3:18:49 > 3:18:54that's a good shot, as good as Eve Muirhead's was in the fifth. It was

3:18:54 > 3:19:03a very good shot. It had to have enough weight to push the yellow out

3:19:03 > 3:19:10of the 8ft, and it just does that, and still stays with the shooter.

3:19:10 > 3:19:19Very good from Sweden.

3:19:19 > 3:19:20Very good from Sweden. So, Great Britain with the hammer, then, in

3:19:20 > 3:19:29the seventh.

3:19:29 > 3:19:34the seventh. We have got to make our two and somehow we've got to try and

3:19:34 > 3:19:42force or steal and change the ends at which the hammer is held, or at

3:19:42 > 3:19:47least force a one from Sweden at some point. If it went two, two,

3:19:47 > 3:19:53two, Sweden Woodwind. So, Sweden with their noses in front. -- Sweden

3:19:53 > 3:19:59would win.

3:20:00 > 3:20:05would win. Never could quite get in control of the match against

3:20:05 > 3:20:07Switzerland, but they were making too many errors, to be honest. And

3:20:07 > 3:20:13some errors in the last couple of ends from the British team. That

3:20:13 > 3:20:20last shot from Eve just didn't quite curl.

3:20:28 > 3:20:31JACKIE LOCKHART: There's really nothing between these teams at the

3:20:31 > 3:20:36moment. Quite often you can tell whether there is a momentum swing

3:20:36 > 3:20:39from one to the other, but they're both actually playing exceptionally

3:20:39 > 3:20:51well. Both teams in the 80%. PLAYER: Line's really good. Line's

3:20:51 > 3:20:57perfect. STEVE CRAM: I said at the beginning

3:20:57 > 3:21:03of this match that I'm not sure Eve's going to... She is still very

3:21:03 > 3:21:09young and has probably got another two or three Olympics to go, but

3:21:09 > 3:21:19this is a big opportunity, with a win against Sweden, and Korea or

3:21:19 > 3:21:23Japan awaiting, it is likely to be Korea, the way the other semi is

3:21:23 > 3:21:28going.

3:21:28 > 3:21:35going.So, just to back up what I was saying there, Steve, these two

3:21:35 > 3:21:41teams in their careers have played each other 21 times, and the ratio

3:21:41 > 3:21:49at the moment is 11 wins for GB and ten for Sweden.

3:21:49 > 3:21:53ten for Sweden. So, it's really, and mouse every time they're away at a

3:21:53 > 3:22:01Championships.

3:22:06 > 3:22:12Both of these teams as well have put in a power of work. This is their

3:22:12 > 3:22:16dream, they've rehearsed this scenario many times. What would you

3:22:16 > 3:22:22do when you're in the semifinal of the Olympic Games? And this is one

3:22:22 > 3:22:29of the hardest games to play.I'm going to hazard a guess that both of

3:22:29 > 3:22:33these skips would trade all of those other wins and losses for a win

3:22:33 > 3:22:41here.You'd be quite right! Again, just not quite getting the rollover

3:22:41 > 3:22:47there. Just spins out slightly the other side.

3:22:49 > 3:22:53other side. It's been a case of almost, not quite, so far for Great

3:22:53 > 3:23:00Britain. They've got to keep Sweden within a shot also. Things can

3:23:00 > 3:23:06change, things WILL change. The pressure will build. Into the final

3:23:06 > 3:23:14ends. Sweden making their shots at the moment. Great Britain with the

3:23:14 > 3:23:20hammer here, Sweden lie-in two.

3:23:20 > 3:23:23hammer here, Sweden lie-in two. -- lying two. She must be delighted

3:23:23 > 3:23:28with the way things are progressing so far. She knows what a tough

3:23:28 > 3:23:34competitor Eve Muirhead is. She'll be hoping she can regain the

3:23:34 > 3:23:38advantage in the last couple of ends, but she knows what's coming,

3:23:38 > 3:23:42if Great Britain can raise their game and find their best shots. So,

3:23:42 > 3:23:49Vicki Adams having another go here. Traced rate down the middle. She

3:23:49 > 3:23:58might get the back red, if we're lucky... We've jammed.

3:23:58 > 3:24:01lucky... We've jammed. They were trying down if they could get that

3:24:01 > 3:24:06back, but that's an unfortunate error there with it just jamming.

3:24:06 > 3:24:19So, they get the chance to hit and roll in.

3:24:19 > 3:24:23roll in. Knochenhauer.

3:24:29 > 3:24:34It's got a chance, there's, of ending up how she once it. Well,

3:24:34 > 3:24:38this is the difference at the moment, because Sweden are making

3:24:38 > 3:24:42every shot, Great Britain just missing. Knochenhauer with a shake

3:24:42 > 3:24:48of the stick there. She knows what a good shot she's just played.Yeah,

3:24:48 > 3:24:54the Swedish stones just lined up in a row there, that was a very, very

3:24:54 > 3:25:02good shot. We've been forced to run the red back into the pack, let's

3:25:02 > 3:25:05see if the pocket rocket as I've called her, Vicki Adams, can clear

3:25:05 > 3:25:12up some of these shots. Eve Muirhead gets out of the way... Well, they

3:25:12 > 3:25:22were so lined up... Put two in the house on the 4ft. No angle forced

3:25:22 > 3:25:29there at all. Replaced the yellow with a red, so still three stones in

3:25:29 > 3:25:37a line. One thing you can say, if she played that shot again next

3:25:37 > 3:25:41time, there would have been a yellow in there at the top of the 4ft. So,

3:25:41 > 3:25:51McManus is going to try and make sure that doesn't happen.

3:25:53 > 3:25:59Hanging out there a little bit. See how much this is going to curl...

3:25:59 > 3:26:02Coming closer and closer to the centre as the weight comes off.

3:26:02 > 3:26:07Yeah, I think she was hoping to stop the run back, so I think Eve's going

3:26:07 > 3:26:12to ask for Anna Sloan to try and repeat the shot. As I said, even if

3:26:12 > 3:26:16it stays straight this time, it will be a yellow that's in the house

3:26:16 > 3:26:20rather than a red.And I think Sweden made a mistake there, they

3:26:20 > 3:26:23should have that coming across the centre line, so they've left an

3:26:23 > 3:26:29opportunity for us. Oh, don't hit the red... This looks tight... It's

3:26:29 > 3:26:36going to get past...

3:26:36 > 3:26:38going to get past... The girls swept that really well, we're sitting

3:26:38 > 3:26:46right behind it and it was so tight as she let that go. She did at least

3:26:46 > 3:26:51get one of the shots in the house, and it has moved it away from that

3:26:51 > 3:26:594ft.Yeah, it does give Eve a bit more of another Trinity. -- a bit

3:26:59 > 3:27:05more of an opportunity.

3:27:06 > 3:27:09more of an opportunity. This time, McManus, after a slightly errant

3:27:09 > 3:27:16shot last time, she has been a little bit off, and Great Britain

3:27:16 > 3:27:19not really taking advantage of the Swedish third, has not been as

3:27:19 > 3:27:24accurate as she has been in the past. Just trying to draw in here.

3:27:24 > 3:27:29Might be a little short...Just want to get this on the 4ft. And that

3:27:29 > 3:27:38another lovely shot. It's well swept again. And that is tucked in. We can

3:27:38 > 3:27:46see the one at the back OK...So, Sweden are putting the pressure on

3:27:46 > 3:27:52Great Britain at the moment, but if we can get one in here, there's a

3:27:52 > 3:27:59not a lot of room between the two yellows.

3:27:59 > 3:28:06yellows.Right, we really need to now be making stones work for us.

3:28:06 > 3:28:13This is the seventh end, just three more after this. Those are three red

3:28:13 > 3:28:27Swedish stones. Anna Sloan coming through not a big gap here, but...

3:28:27 > 3:28:33Looking to come right onto that back red and just get a little roll in if

3:28:33 > 3:28:37she can. Just needs to turn a bit more on the inside of that red...

3:28:37 > 3:28:46That's a nice try. It just got a little roll in.Again it's kind of

3:28:46 > 3:28:58an 85%-90% shot. Good try. And it has just tucked itself in a little

3:28:58 > 3:29:02bit. Not an easy target, importantly, though, it's lie-in

3:29:02 > 3:29:14shot. Can't see it, though. -- it's lying shot.

3:29:19 > 3:29:25I think she just has too try a back

3:29:26 > 3:29:36rink weight, the same as what Vicki played. Agnes Knochenhauer is

3:29:36 > 3:29:42telling Anna how much she can see.

3:29:50 > 3:29:54The national coach himself, a World Champion many times, a very

3:29:54 > 3:30:02experienced player.

3:30:02 > 3:30:07So, Anna Hasselborg, she's played to model shots, she if anything is

3:30:07 > 3:30:13playing a little bit better than Eve Muirhead. Hasselborg, particularly

3:30:13 > 3:30:17on the draw so far, has been very good. Has she got this right here?

3:30:17 > 3:30:22It will come down the same line, she can't see much of the stone as Anna

3:30:22 > 3:30:28Sloan could see.Push that out if she lets it go. She definitely did.

3:30:28 > 3:30:34It's gone right through. It's gone right through, so there is the first

3:30:34 > 3:30:41mistake from Anna Hasselborg. A little bite of the lower lip. A

3:30:41 > 3:30:49snarl from McManus.Just watch when she released that there, she just

3:30:49 > 3:30:54pushed it. It was heading out before it even wanted to come back into the

3:30:54 > 3:31:01centreline there. A glimmer of hope here for us to protect that stone,

3:31:01 > 3:31:07bring another one in.

3:31:07 > 3:31:13bring another one in.It's all getting a little tight there. You

3:31:13 > 3:31:17heard that, tight past the yellow. We have the hammer, we want to get

3:31:17 > 3:31:24another one in.That's the first mistake from, I'm hesitating to say,

3:31:24 > 3:31:29from even Sweden as a whole, maybe one or two shots not coming off, but

3:31:29 > 3:31:38that's an opportunity that Eve Muirhead is to capitalise on.

3:31:38 > 3:31:44We heard it, they like a line here. It would be great to get this one in

3:31:44 > 3:31:50as they come past the front yellow. Just coming into shot now, it gets

3:31:50 > 3:31:55passed that one. What has she done here? Another good shot from Eve

3:31:55 > 3:32:05Muirhead. It just bumps out, though. That's left... She can probably take

3:32:05 > 3:32:11both of these yellows out.That's a pity. Needed a little bit less

3:32:11 > 3:32:17weight, but it just catches that red, and it has enough on it to spin

3:32:17 > 3:32:23out.Eve knows. A tiny little bit frustrated, but by the same token,

3:32:23 > 3:32:28Anna Hasselborg has to play this shot.To send it out, or send both

3:32:28 > 3:32:34of them out, she's just looking at the Angles, it has to be pretty

3:32:34 > 3:32:39skinny here, pretty thin. Then there is a chance it jams across the other

3:32:39 > 3:32:49red, but if that jammed...

3:32:57 > 3:33:02She's having a little look at it now. If you caught it right full on

3:33:02 > 3:33:10the face, would it still get the two out?

3:33:12 > 3:33:14out? Whether she just wants to...I don't think she's going to jump, but

3:33:14 > 3:33:22if she gets it, the yellow should go between the two of them on the other

3:33:22 > 3:33:26side of the red there. She thinks, if she catches it really skinny, the

3:33:26 > 3:33:35yellow goes and stays in. She will be happy with a one. But as you and

3:33:35 > 3:33:39I look at this, it is a big target there, look at the gap.As long as

3:33:39 > 3:33:52she hits... Almost the knows of it, but maybe to the little left a bit.

3:33:52 > 3:33:55Maybe it will jam the other yellow across or miss it all together if

3:33:55 > 3:34:00she catches it on the wrong side of the nose as well. But then she still

3:34:00 > 3:34:08might lie.Anyway... Lets see what she's going to do.This is a big

3:34:08 > 3:34:11shop for Sweden. Eve Muirhead still has another stone to come, of

3:34:11 > 3:34:16course. Britain with the hammer he. But this was a chance that was

3:34:16 > 3:34:22building. Now, the Swedish skip coming down. Has she got this right?

3:34:22 > 3:34:36That looks a good shot. A very good shot indeed.Catch it as well.

3:34:36 > 3:34:39shot indeed.Catch it as well. So, we're going to have to draw the same

3:34:39 > 3:34:44shot again down here to get one.She was worried it would jam, it caught

3:34:44 > 3:34:49the red and spun out itself. It worked out well for them.We have to

3:34:49 > 3:34:56come through between the two yellow stones out there, we can't overthrow

3:34:56 > 3:34:59it because it needs to pull. It would be nice to come down the other

3:34:59 > 3:35:04side, but you have less of the four foot to play with. She can see more

3:35:04 > 3:35:13four foot this site.Eve Muirhead cannot get this wrong. -- this side.

3:35:13 > 3:35:17Cannot get this wrong.

3:35:17 > 3:35:26Coming through the gap, here it comes. Now, then. It's going to

3:35:26 > 3:35:36catch. Oh, oh, oh, oh...Oh, that's a steel of a three.Three to Sweden,

3:35:36 > 3:35:44and Great Britain's hopes may well have reached such a low point in

3:35:44 > 3:35:48that end there, it's going to be so difficult for Britain to come back

3:35:48 > 3:35:53from 8-3.

3:35:53 > 3:36:00CLARE BALDING: At 1pm, we will go to the news, the curling will continue

3:36:00 > 3:36:05on BBC Two. Sweden is dealing three in that end. It means that Eve

3:36:05 > 3:36:10Muirhead is up against it.Unlucky for Eve to not get shot there. It is

3:36:10 > 3:36:12a hammer blow for the next few

3:36:12 > 3:36:13for Eve to not get shot there. It is a hammer blow for the next few ends

3:36:13 > 3:36:17as we see the stone. It was difficult to navigate both the

3:36:17 > 3:36:22guards there to try to come in and get perfect weight. Eve played it

3:36:22 > 3:36:28with the first one but had to be full weight. A tough shot for Eve.

3:36:28 > 3:36:32The trouble is, the clock is ticking, the ends are flying away

3:36:32 > 3:36:37from them. They have got to take risks and do something big, and do

3:36:37 > 3:36:41it soon. That's right. They had to be offensive in that end and get two

3:36:41 > 3:36:47on the board. They got into a bit of trouble, it didn't go their way and

3:36:47 > 3:36:50they were on the back foot at the end. They almost got out the end

3:36:50 > 3:36:54with a good shot from Anna, and a miss from Sweden, but Eve was an

3:36:54 > 3:37:00lucky with her first shot to leave the double for Sweden.Back to

3:37:00 > 3:37:04Jackie and Steve, last three ends coming. Just a reminder, at one

3:37:04 > 3:37:10o'clock, we will switch to BBC Two.

3:37:10 > 3:37:13COMMENTATOR: We will try to find a way to convince you that Great

3:37:13 > 3:37:23Britain can win this. And looking at Jackie... !

3:37:23 > 3:37:26Jackie... ! Anything can happen, of course. Great Britain giving away a

3:37:26 > 3:37:32three there. Eve was under pressure, facing three in the house, but

3:37:32 > 3:37:37Hasselborg has no pressure now. Sweden just need to play a clean

3:37:37 > 3:37:42game. Not much time for Britain to score big. They have do have to ends

3:37:42 > 3:37:48where they score really well.I'd have to say, we just keep sticking

3:37:48 > 3:37:51in, I know the scoreboard looks massive and it is, but if we can

3:37:51 > 3:37:57pick up a two. But this is what Anna Hasselborg clubs. She loves to blast

3:37:57 > 3:38:02everything out of the house. The precision of the peeling shots,

3:38:02 > 3:38:08yeah. This is a tough hill to climb at the moment, but we still had to

3:38:08 > 3:38:11remain positive. We've said it before, even the team have been

3:38:11 > 3:38:17dealt a big blow, they are pretty good on eight, nine and ten.You can

3:38:17 > 3:38:23be very good in eight, nine and ten, but you're going to have to be

3:38:23 > 3:38:27miraculously. The Swedish team are playing well. They've kept the

3:38:27 > 3:38:32pressure on Great Britain. They've never let up, really. One bad shot

3:38:32 > 3:38:37from Hasselborg, we weren't able to capitalise. She missed. Eve played a

3:38:37 > 3:38:42pretty good shot. David Murdoch was saying.David was right. She was

3:38:42 > 3:38:49unlucky. If it caught the red more and didn't run as much, but it was

3:38:49 > 3:38:53the fact they were trying to bring it back onto Eve's own yellow stone.

3:38:53 > 3:39:00It could afford to touch the stone and go further to the back, but it

3:39:00 > 3:39:07was an unlucky stone, because she raided well.

3:39:07 > 3:39:15raided well.Good job.Nice, Lauren. We definitely got sucked in to the

3:39:15 > 3:39:19play in the centre, and that's what happens. Sometimes it just goes

3:39:19 > 3:39:27against you.

3:39:27 > 3:39:32So, two guards put up, and Sweden will take them away. They've got

3:39:32 > 3:39:39their two in.

3:39:43 > 3:39:53It's all smiles and high fives for the Swedish team at the moment. It's

3:39:53 > 3:39:57all gone a little bit flat for the British team. They will do their

3:39:57 > 3:40:02best to create a situation, but they've left themselves with, I

3:40:02 > 3:40:07think the analogy I was using the other day, climbing up a mountain

3:40:07 > 3:40:21without any crampons! Where it is very icy. And...

3:40:21 > 3:40:28very icy. And... Just trying to bring this in behind that guard.

3:40:32 > 3:40:39Needs to be in, needs to be in, as Eve says. Eve, that first shot of

3:40:39 > 3:40:44Eve Muirhead's would some up the match, really. In other matches,

3:40:44 > 3:40:49when we have got part of the game where they come off. Whether it is a

3:40:49 > 3:40:55little bit of luck or skill, usually it is skill, the stone has ended up

3:40:55 > 3:41:02where you want it. Just that little nudge sits out there, gives a chance

3:41:02 > 3:41:06to Hasselborg, and missed it first time. Sorry, had missed it before

3:41:06 > 3:41:12that. And given her the chance to bounced back from a bad shot. And

3:41:12 > 3:41:21she played a good shot. Didn't need to be asked twice.

3:41:28 > 3:41:32I feel like we've had the wind knocked out of our sails as well,

3:41:32 > 3:41:38Steve.I'm sure everyone at home is the same. We were so hoping that

3:41:38 > 3:41:45this team, of course, if they do lose this match, they will be still

3:41:45 > 3:41:48able to come back and try to win the bronze, which they managed four

3:41:48 > 3:41:57years ago. And a medal is a medal. That would be important to the team

3:41:57 > 3:42:03as a whole, I think, to Team GB, to help the medal haul. I'm absolutely

3:42:03 > 3:42:07convinced Eve Muirhead and her team will fight hard for the bronze

3:42:07 > 3:42:10medal, because they will want to go home with something. That was a

3:42:10 > 3:42:19lovely shot there from Vicki.

3:42:24 > 3:42:30So, that one just comes in quite hidden again. So they're just

3:42:30 > 3:42:34working out what to do. All Sweden had to do is play say, don't do

3:42:34 > 3:42:40anything clever or take any risks. But this is making them think. Vicki

3:42:40 > 3:42:45played a really nice shot in behind these two reds. It is not easy to

3:42:45 > 3:42:50get to the yellow, so they have to decide if they want to go for the

3:42:50 > 3:42:59top yellow and play it safe and lose a two. If they start getting too

3:42:59 > 3:43:08clever and don't make their shot, they could easily claw back.

3:43:20 > 3:43:25The clock ticking away, just thinking time left, both teams start

3:43:25 > 3:43:29with 38 minutes at the start of the match. It just ticks away, and stubs

3:43:29 > 3:43:35if they have a time-out, it stops when they play a shot. -- and stops

3:43:35 > 3:43:37if they have a time-out.

3:43:43 > 3:43:48CLARE BALDING: We welcome viewers on BBC Two, who have just joined our

3:43:48 > 3:43:52Winter Olympics average. We are watching Great Britain's women in

3:43:52 > 3:43:55semifinal action against Sweden. Sweden very much have the upper

3:43:55 > 3:43:59hand. If you are watching on BBC One, we are heading to the one

3:43:59 > 3:43:59o'clock
