0:00:44 > 0:00:54In Korea, we like games strategy. We like games that take their time,

0:00:54 > 0:01:02progress slowly but take you under their spell.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10We like the oldest board game, played for thousands of years. It's

0:01:10 > 0:01:17a game of stones, probability and calculation. The aim of the game is

0:01:17 > 0:01:25to place your stones to control a desired territory. But this isn't

0:01:25 > 0:01:32the only game here that is played with stones.

0:01:35 > 0:01:43with stones. This game is rather hypnotic. Better tactics will ensure

0:01:43 > 0:01:49you against enemy attack.

0:01:51 > 0:01:59you against enemy attack. Brush your opponent's stones away. And your

0:01:59 > 0:02:08adversary's chances.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12adversary's chances. So complex, it carries heavy mental weight. In

0:02:12 > 0:02:20South Korea, we have a new love. We love curling! We all love curling!

0:02:20 > 0:02:28Welcome from Pyeongchang. Good morning on what is women's curling

0:02:28 > 0:02:32semifinal day. Eve Muirhead's rink aiming to go one better than four

0:02:32 > 0:02:36years ago, when they face Sweden just but that is much later on in

0:02:36 > 0:02:40the day and we have a whole host of action coming before then. Here's

0:02:40 > 0:02:49what's coming up. This could be one of Pyeongchang's defining moments,

0:02:49 > 0:02:54teenage Russian progeny is going head-to-head in the women's figure

0:02:54 > 0:02:58skating. We will be live at the Gangneung Curling Centre for the

0:02:58 > 0:03:02men's bronze medals match, where Canada take on Switzerland. And

0:03:02 > 0:03:07we've reached the semifinal stage in the men's ice hockey. You will see

0:03:07 > 0:03:11the Czech Republic taking on the tournament favourites the Olympic

0:03:11 > 0:03:15Athletes from Russia. We're going to start at the Gangneung Ice Arena, it

0:03:15 > 0:03:19is the final medal of the figure skating programme, the women's

0:03:19 > 0:03:24singles. And if the short programme is anything to go by, we are in for

0:03:24 > 0:03:28a real treat today in the free programme, two teenagers going

0:03:28 > 0:03:36head-to-head for gold. Could be utterly breathtaking. Here's our

0:03:36 > 0:03:40commentary team of Robin Cousins and Katherine Downes.

0:03:40 > 0:03:45KATHERINE DOWNES: We are into the final day skating at the Olympic

0:03:45 > 0:03:49Games and it is the women taking to the ice behind us, and Robin, it is

0:03:49 > 0:03:54going to be a chase for gold between the two Russians?Absolutely.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58Medvedeva came out and said in the short programme come this is mine,

0:03:58 > 0:04:05looked at me! She broke her own record. Her compatriot said, I can

0:04:05 > 0:04:09do better - and did! She broke the world record! But it is a different

0:04:09 > 0:04:15ball game today and I think Medvedeva is going to have the edge.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19Sheers 0.31 behind, you think she has got what it takes to come back

0:04:19 > 0:04:26and edge out the 15-year-old? Sagitova won at the World

0:04:26 > 0:04:28Championships but this is a different kettle of. And somebody

0:04:28 > 0:04:33has got to come through and deliver the entire package editor those two

0:04:33 > 0:04:39girls, for me come it is going to be Medvedeva. Having said that, Kaitlyn

0:04:39 > 0:04:43Lawes and, many people said she was very under marked, she knows she is

0:04:43 > 0:04:47sitting fairly comfortable the in bronze medal position and there is

0:04:47 > 0:04:54also a chance that she could upset one or both of those Russians, if

0:04:54 > 0:05:00everything is perfect. -- Kaetlyn Osmond.Two records broken the other

0:05:00 > 0:05:09day - will we see more falling today?

0:05:09 > 0:05:11So, the Japanese national champion currently lying in fourth place but

0:05:11 > 0:05:21just three points behind Kaetlyn Osmond in the bronze medal position.

0:05:21 > 0:05:27And she rotates these jumps at a rate of knots. She definitely has

0:05:27 > 0:05:35what it takes to make up that gap and get herself on the podium.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39and get herself on the podium. There was some question over whether her

0:05:39 > 0:05:44triple triple combination and her jump in the short programme should

0:05:44 > 0:05:47have been downgraded. She will want to make sure that she gives them no

0:05:47 > 0:05:57choice today. Triple loop is fully cleanly rotated, no question there.

0:05:57 > 0:06:03But it is this triple lots triple toe loop combination that will be

0:06:03 > 0:06:12the first real test.

0:06:14 > 0:06:28Clean, for me but on review, we will see.

0:06:28 > 0:06:34see. And good on the flip.

0:06:58 > 0:07:02Lovely to see spinning in both directions. We don't see that enough

0:07:02 > 0:07:06in figure skating these days.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Big jumping pass coming now - triple lots, double tow loop, double

0:08:21 > 0:08:25loop... She's done it.

0:08:43 > 0:08:55Double Axel triple toe loop.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58And the triple Salchow.

0:09:17 > 0:09:26And the last jump, the double Axel.

0:09:29 > 0:09:43Beautiful position for the Labour. -- for the tempted. And absolutely

0:09:43 > 0:09:48on the spot for the Spain. So, she could not have asked for any more

0:09:48 > 0:09:54from that performance, Satoko Miyahara.No, from what I can see,

0:09:54 > 0:09:58absolutely clean on the triples, it will, of course, go to review. I

0:09:58 > 0:10:06think she does rotates so fast, not a lot of height or flight, but she's

0:10:06 > 0:10:12just a little biddy thing! You wonder where she gets it from!

0:10:12 > 0:10:17Satoko Miyahara with a new season's best, to take the lead, and she is

0:10:17 > 0:10:24the one to chase down, then, in this final group of six skaters. So, here

0:10:24 > 0:10:30she is, she set a new short programme world record two days ago,

0:10:30 > 0:10:32this long programme helped the Olympic athletes of Russia to the

0:10:32 > 0:10:42silver medal in the team event. This is Alina Zagitova, the young

0:10:42 > 0:10:49pretender, and gold within her grasp. Does she have what it takes

0:10:49 > 0:10:58to bear the pressure on those young shoulders?

0:11:30 > 0:11:36Don't look for the big jumps to be coming early in this performance.

0:11:36 > 0:11:50The later they come, you do get bonus points. And

0:11:50 > 0:11:54bonus points. And Sagitova back-ends her programme with the Corriere

0:11:54 > 0:12:05graphical elements.All about maxing out those points.

0:13:05 > 0:13:13Oh, that would have been the triple loop, triple lots combination. Just

0:13:13 > 0:13:17taking the Lutz there. So, how well does she think on her feet...?

0:13:17 > 0:13:29Double Axel, triple toe loop.

0:13:32 > 0:13:41Triple flip, double two loop, double loop.

0:13:50 > 0:13:55And the second triple lots will come now, and it has to be in a

0:13:55 > 0:14:00combination, and she will want it to be with the toe loop. No, she will

0:14:00 > 0:14:11do it with a triple loop.

0:14:15 > 0:14:24And the triple flip.

0:14:48 > 0:14:53APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

0:14:53 > 0:14:58And it looked for a second as if Alina Zagitova had been the first to

0:14:58 > 0:15:01blink in this competition, but she thought on her feet!Did not have

0:15:01 > 0:15:08the perfect landing on that triple Lutz, although she has been given

0:15:08 > 0:15:16positive raids of execution on it. But yes, she came back, has exactly

0:15:16 > 0:15:20the same content as was planned, just not as a severally the order

0:15:20 > 0:15:25she would have liked to have delivered it.I don't suppose it

0:15:25 > 0:15:28matters which order it comes out, as long as it is executed as

0:15:28 > 0:15:34beautifully as she did it.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37beautifully as she did it. 156.56, so it's not a new season's best,

0:15:37 > 0:15:44it's not a new world record.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50Beat that and you will be in for a gold medal.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52And the door is open.

0:15:58 > 0:16:03Kaetlyn Osmond, World Championship silver medallist. The first time the

0:16:03 > 0:16:09Buttner Canadian women on a podium at the same time. Kaetlyn Osmond,

0:16:09 > 0:16:222.7 Paul points behind Medvedeva -- 2.74.

0:16:29 > 0:16:34She had a glorious performance in the short programme. Many thought

0:16:34 > 0:16:40under marked in terms of the credit scores, technically she delivered.

0:16:40 > 0:16:44Can she do it today, there is a triple flip and triple toe loop,

0:16:44 > 0:16:49exquisite.

0:17:06 > 0:17:12Double axel, triple toe loop, fast, light, easy. Keep this momentum

0:17:12 > 0:17:19going, please.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30Overcooked the take-off on the triple Lutz, she stepped out.

0:18:28 > 0:18:35Good on the triple loop, she needed that. And she also needs the second

0:18:35 > 0:18:40triple flip, only one triple bouts in this programme planned so every

0:18:40 > 0:18:46triple will need to be perfect from

0:18:53 > 0:19:06now on -- only one triple Lutz. And, there you go.

0:19:07 > 0:19:15Triple Salchow, double toe loop, double loop.

0:19:16 > 0:19:25The last of her jumps, a double axel.

0:20:29 > 0:20:35Canada's Black Swan flying in for a place on the podium!

0:20:35 > 0:20:46Just that one tiny mistake, falling out the landing of triple Lutz. But,

0:20:46 > 0:20:53goodness me. She had a lead going into this

0:20:53 > 0:21:03short, this free skate after the short programme. About three points

0:21:03 > 0:21:08ahead of the Japanese skater in fourth position. So, she has a very

0:21:08 > 0:21:19slight advantage to play with. It is up to second! A season's best,

0:21:19 > 0:21:25a massive season's best, ten points better than her previous mark and

0:21:25 > 0:21:30Kaetlyn Osmond holds on to that bronze medal position, she fends off

0:21:30 > 0:21:36the challenge of Satoko Miyahara and has guaranteed herself a medal with

0:21:36 > 0:21:43that performance. Here is our last skater at this

0:21:43 > 0:21:50Olympic Games, and what a way to close the show, Evgenia Medvedeva,

0:21:50 > 0:21:53the two time world champion, favourite for so long to win this

0:21:53 > 0:21:57Olympic title. She broke the world record in the

0:21:57 > 0:22:11short programme, just to watch Zagitova snatch it back.

0:22:21 > 0:22:31Anna Karenina is the sound track.

0:22:43 > 0:22:51Triple flip, triple toe loop to open.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05There is the triple Lutz.

0:24:19 > 0:24:21Strong second triple flip.

0:24:30 > 0:24:37And a beautiful triple loop.

0:25:16 > 0:25:23That is it, triple salto, triple toe loop, just one more double axel --

0:25:23 > 0:25:32triple Salchow. And then the jumps are done.

0:25:32 > 0:25:36are done. This is your gold medal winning performance. She is

0:25:36 > 0:25:41absolutely on the money.

0:26:22 > 0:26:27It is marvellous from Medvedeva again. Not ready to relinquish her

0:26:27 > 0:26:33crown, the double world champion, still the very, very best in the

0:26:33 > 0:26:39world. I thought that was the best I have

0:26:39 > 0:26:45seen her skate in a long time. It is a programme that has won her a

0:26:45 > 0:26:48World Championship before. Now, surely enough for the Olympic title

0:26:48 > 0:26:53as well. She made the decision to change

0:26:53 > 0:26:58programmes made season, came back to one that she says really made her

0:26:58 > 0:27:16feel something different on the ice. It is not enough!

0:27:16 > 0:27:20It is not enough! And that is the gold medal missing.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24And heartbreak for Medvedeva who thought she had done enough.

0:27:24 > 0:27:30Confirmation that Alina Zagitova, the 15-year-old upstart from Russia

0:27:30 > 0:27:36has caused another enormous shock beating her countrywoman, the

0:27:36 > 0:27:39two-time world champion favourite this title. Kaetlyn Osmond of Conor

0:27:39 > 0:27:45Dore takes the bronze. What a shock at the Ice Arena in the final event

0:27:45 > 0:27:46of this Olympic figure skating competition.

0:27:49 > 0:27:56The celebrations had submitted because after that performance by

0:27:56 > 0:28:01Medvedeva, we had her nails on the that gold medal, but Alina Zagitova

0:28:01 > 0:28:05came through with the short programme which won it for her.

0:28:05 > 0:28:11Identical scores in the free programme, I am surprised at that.

0:28:11 > 0:28:14Zagitova is a brilliant technician and she was on it today. She worked

0:28:14 > 0:28:21with the brain. Didn't give any heart. Most skating the 20 people

0:28:21 > 0:28:26would say Medvedeva gave everything. The jumps were tiny but were clean

0:28:26 > 0:28:31and pristine. The performance was glorious. The right move to give an

0:28:31 > 0:28:36all performance here. You could see it in her face, she was slightly

0:28:36 > 0:28:42shocked and a lot of us are. She was heartbroken with that

0:28:42 > 0:28:46result, she couldn't hide it. She is normally so calm. She skates with

0:28:46 > 0:28:51such focus. She was in tears. And the result.

0:28:51 > 0:28:59You have this building in your body for months, weeks and in this case a

0:28:59 > 0:29:04couple of years, towards this ultimate performance. At some point,

0:29:04 > 0:29:12your body comes undone and that outpouring is so honest and natural.

0:29:12 > 0:29:16Bringing Kaetlyn Osmond into this conversation, she has not been one

0:29:16 > 0:29:20to hold it together when things go slightly wrong. It was a tiny

0:29:20 > 0:29:25mistake. But the rest of her performance was supreme. The three

0:29:25 > 0:29:33women on this podium are correct but for us, for us figure skating fans

0:29:33 > 0:29:39and experts, we would have loved to see Medvedeva on top.

0:29:39 > 0:29:45It was that world record short programme which one it for Zagitova.

0:29:45 > 0:29:52Is this the best figure skating Olympic Games you have seen?

0:29:52 > 0:29:59Across the board, all four disciplines, some upsets, phenomenal

0:29:59 > 0:30:01performances, yes, probably the best Games I have been to.

0:30:01 > 0:30:08Real drama in the free programme for women. A sensational standard

0:30:08 > 0:30:13throughout these Winter Olympics at the Ice Arena.

0:30:13 > 0:30:19We stay on the ice but head to the Curling Centre. The first team medal

0:30:19 > 0:30:24is up for grabs today, the men's bronze medal match between

0:30:24 > 0:30:31Switzerland and Canada. The Laverty losers from the semifinals. Who can

0:30:31 > 0:30:36bounce back quickest today when they take to the ice? One will melt

0:30:36 > 0:30:42Porcher one will go home with nothing. Logan Gray and Steve Cram

0:30:42 > 0:30:46are standing by. You would have to say the pressure has got to be on

0:30:46 > 0:30:51Canada, they are used to going home with medals. This time they could go

0:30:51 > 0:30:58home with -- without a medal in either.

0:30:58 > 0:31:04Unthinkable for the Canadians given that clean sweep in Sochi. For any

0:31:04 > 0:31:08other nation going away with a gold and a bronze wouldn't be bad for an

0:31:08 > 0:31:13Olympic Games. There is an acceptance the rest of the world is

0:31:13 > 0:31:19catching up with Canada. They are not able to contend. Coaches are

0:31:19 > 0:31:23leaving the country to work with other nations, the teams are

0:31:23 > 0:31:28travelling over there to compete against the best and in their

0:31:28 > 0:31:37facilities. Not unexpected. The ball started rolling before Sochi.

0:31:41 > 0:31:45We saw the best of Switzerland in that play-off yesterday, although

0:31:45 > 0:31:48they struggled in their semifinal - what do we expect from them to date

0:31:48 > 0:31:54against this Canadian team?Well, they're capable of beating them,

0:31:54 > 0:31:57absolutely, they beat them in the round robin. It was a bit difficult

0:31:57 > 0:32:02for Switzerland yesterday in that crunch tie-break against Great

0:32:02 > 0:32:05Britain, a brilliant shot taking them through but then they had to

0:32:05 > 0:32:08come back again in the evening, and in so doing they met Sweden, who had

0:32:08 > 0:32:15been waiting. I think they see the gold medal opportunity, particularly

0:32:15 > 0:32:19now that's now not playing Canada in the final. I think they will still

0:32:19 > 0:32:24give Canada a good match here. They're capable of big shots,

0:32:24 > 0:32:27they've got a really good team, who have been playing all year on the

0:32:27 > 0:32:31circuit as well as at the Olympic Games here. And I think for them to

0:32:31 > 0:32:35win a bronze medal would be a massive result, so the pressure is

0:32:35 > 0:32:38really on Canada. They have to go home with something, they cannot

0:32:38 > 0:32:45lose this match. So, I

0:32:56 > 0:32:58think all of the pressure on Canada, but Switzerland will give them a

0:32:58 > 0:33:01great match. We can see them lining up there, the atmosphere inside the

0:33:01 > 0:33:03arena sounds brilliant yet again today - who are you putting your

0:33:03 > 0:33:06money on for a win here, who is going to be taking that bronze

0:33:06 > 0:33:09medal?I think this is going to be too close to call. We are hoping for

0:33:09 > 0:33:12a colossal, the match between Canada and the USA was enthralling and

0:33:12 > 0:33:14there was not much to choose between them. I read some comments which I

0:33:14 > 0:33:17was a bit surprised about, because Kevin Koe said, we were in control

0:33:17 > 0:33:22of that match all of the way until the eighth end. I'm not convinced

0:33:22 > 0:33:26about that, but I think the USA were playing very, very well, and that is

0:33:26 > 0:33:29what Switzerland have got to do, they have got to come out from the

0:33:29 > 0:33:33start and not let Canada get on top. If that happens it will go all the

0:33:33 > 0:33:37way. I am sitting on the fence a little bit, but I just have a

0:33:37 > 0:33:43sneaking suspicion that that pressure which Canada are under my

0:33:43 > 0:33:48just figure here, so I'm going to lean slightly towards Switzerland.

0:33:48 > 0:33:53Absolutely, I'm going to go to Canada! I think Canada are hurting

0:33:53 > 0:33:57after yesterday, I think they've got a real point to prove and I think

0:33:57 > 0:34:00they're going to be coming out all cylinders firing this afternoon. It

0:34:00 > 0:34:05is Sweden and the USA contesting the gold medal match but right here,

0:34:05 > 0:34:10right now, it is all about bronze. It is Switzerland against Canada. I

0:34:10 > 0:34:13will let you guys take your seat and talk as through this one. Here's

0:34:13 > 0:34:20Logan Gray and Steve Cram. STEVE CRAM: Thank you, Eilidh. Don't

0:34:20 > 0:34:24forget it is the women's semifinals shortly after this one as well. Less

0:34:24 > 0:34:29of an interval in between the two sessions today. And the Korean

0:34:29 > 0:34:34women's team are on show tonight, there is an awful lot of excitement,

0:34:34 > 0:34:37there's more media here today, not just for this bronze medal match but

0:34:37 > 0:34:42it is the Korean women who are getting everybody excited. Read, of

0:34:42 > 0:34:46course, are concentrating on Eve Muirhead and her team, taking on the

0:34:46 > 0:34:53Swedish team. That is to come, starting at 11am UK time. This one's

0:34:53 > 0:34:58medal match,

0:35:01 > 0:35:08medal match, a little hors d'oeuvre before that. Canada will want to get

0:35:08 > 0:35:16off to a good start today. They will have the hammer coming into this.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19Switzerland are certainly capable, as they showed in the round of

0:35:19 > 0:35:25beating this Canadian team.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28beating this Canadian team. And they also showed in the World

0:35:28 > 0:35:31Championships in 2016 in Beijing, and Switzerland actually came out on

0:35:31 > 0:35:36top. Sub they've done it before - can they do it again on the biggest

0:35:36 > 0:35:45stage of all? Playing first for Switzerland, their lead, Valentin

0:35:45 > 0:35:53Tanner. And Ben Hebert will lead the Canada.Unusually for Switzerland,

0:35:53 > 0:35:57if you have not seen them before, you may well have seen them in the

0:35:57 > 0:36:05tie-break match against Great Britain, their skip plays second.

0:36:05 > 0:36:15The Canada, the skip plays in the normal position, fourth. Still

0:36:15 > 0:36:21filling up for this bronze medal match. Obviously, the teams weren't

0:36:21 > 0:36:26quite sure who was going to get here, and I suppose it is the same

0:36:26 > 0:36:31as... I am told there's a fair few Canadian fans had tickets for the

0:36:31 > 0:36:38final and were desperately trying to swap them. That was confidence for

0:36:38 > 0:36:45you!Yeah, and to be fair, if you look at the results from the last

0:36:45 > 0:36:50World Championship, it probably well-placed. Both the men's and the

0:36:50 > 0:36:54women's team just ran things and went on to win the gold medal last

0:36:54 > 0:36:58year in both the men's and women's, so they expected more this week.

0:36:58 > 0:37:05They may just have to settle for one medal, at best. So, Switzerland

0:37:05 > 0:37:15playing red, Canada playing yellow. I was just looking at some of the

0:37:15 > 0:37:21reaction that in Canada, and one of their top newspapers had the

0:37:21 > 0:37:25headline, is this the worst Olympics ever for Canada? And they were

0:37:25 > 0:37:30comparing even with Summer Olympics, the Ben Johnson incident in 1988 was

0:37:30 > 0:37:35mentioned and one or two others. But they had a day yesterday they would

0:37:35 > 0:37:41want to forget, they lost to the USA in the women's ice hockey final, and

0:37:41 > 0:37:48then the USA men in the curling, knocking out Canada. You have got to

0:37:48 > 0:37:54hand it to USA, though, they beat them twice here.

0:37:54 > 0:37:57LOGAN GRAY: Yeah, absolutely, they have really gone from strength to

0:37:57 > 0:38:02strength, the Americans. They made a bad start to the week with one win

0:38:02 > 0:38:06and two losses are, but they were still confident. They have found

0:38:06 > 0:38:09themselves in similar scenarios in previous World Championships and are

0:38:09 > 0:38:14still made the final stages in those, so they didn't panic. And

0:38:14 > 0:38:18they've really been superb as the week has gone on, with some wins

0:38:18 > 0:38:26against teams you wouldn't expect them to beat normally.Nice first

0:38:26 > 0:38:30shot from Peter de Cruz, actually born in the UK, in London. And as I

0:38:30 > 0:38:37said, skipping this team from the second position. So, he doesn't play

0:38:37 > 0:38:42the last stone. Brent Laing had a bit of a shocker yesterday, by his

0:38:42 > 0:38:47very high standards. I mean, they all took the blame for the defeat,

0:38:47 > 0:38:55saying they hadn't played well. And Kevin Koe himself, certainly one or

0:38:55 > 0:38:59two shots which were not up to his normal standards. Marc Kennedy

0:38:59 > 0:39:02missed some straightforward takeouts, mistakes all over the

0:39:02 > 0:39:07place. That's why I was surprised when Kevin Koe said, we were

0:39:07 > 0:39:13completely in control of that match. I think they were in control playing

0:39:13 > 0:39:18the eighth end, and it was only thanks to Kevin Koe's performance,

0:39:18 > 0:39:20because he was literally dragging his team along with some terrific

0:39:20 > 0:39:25shot play. And sometimes there's only so long you can keep that up,

0:39:25 > 0:39:29your team don't turn up and it's inevitable that a mistake is going

0:39:29 > 0:39:33to come at some point, and it came in the eighth end Kevin Koe, with

0:39:33 > 0:39:41his last couple of draws. As a team, USA just played better, and they

0:39:41 > 0:39:48didn't give shots away when Canada were doing just that.

0:39:48 > 0:39:54There's a difference as well, I think the Canadians are going to be

0:39:54 > 0:39:57a little quieter than we normally see them, but they're normally

0:39:57 > 0:40:00fairly vociferous out on the ice. The Swiss, by contrast, fairly

0:40:00 > 0:40:05quiet.

0:40:05 > 0:40:09quiet. Brent Laing, married to Jennifer Jones, the women's champion

0:40:09 > 0:40:12from Sochi. She's sitting in the stands watching with the Canadian

0:40:12 > 0:40:21contingent.

0:40:21 > 0:40:27contingent.Good run back there. Would have liked to have kept the

0:40:27 > 0:40:34Yellowstone behind the guard - it has just gone out into the open.

0:40:39 > 0:40:47I think for the Swiss, they're really going to have to dig deep

0:40:47 > 0:40:51after a really poor performance against the Swedes in the semifinal.

0:40:51 > 0:40:57They could have been off after six ends, they were losing that badly,

0:40:57 > 0:41:01but they had to play a minimum of eight, as all the teams do in the

0:41:01 > 0:41:06play-offs. I can't imagine their confidence is at an all-time high

0:41:06 > 0:41:11after that.I access that, but I just get the feeling that the big

0:41:11 > 0:41:15match for them was getting into the semifinals, beating Great Britain,

0:41:15 > 0:41:19because at one point, they didn't finish off the round robin

0:41:19 > 0:41:25particularly well, had to sit and watch to see how results went, ended

0:41:25 > 0:41:27up in the tie-break with Great Britain, straightforward tie-break

0:41:27 > 0:41:35for fourth place, and although they didn't start well in that one, they

0:41:35 > 0:41:40didn't panic, when Britain went out to an early lead, they kept playing

0:41:40 > 0:41:44their shots, kept the pressure on, and in the end it was a stunning

0:41:44 > 0:41:50shot from Benoit Schwarz. And that was it, really. And I think just

0:41:50 > 0:41:56coming back after that elation, coming back the same evening and

0:41:56 > 0:42:01having to play Sweden, who were a gold medal favourites... So I just

0:42:01 > 0:42:03think they probably thought, if we beat Sweden, massive bonus, but

0:42:03 > 0:42:07we've still got a chance of a bronze medal - and this is their

0:42:07 > 0:42:15opportunity. They probably thought they would be playing USA, mind you.

0:42:15 > 0:42:20If you'd given them a choice couple of matches ago and said, you can

0:42:20 > 0:42:26have a bronze medal match, and then say - but it's against Canada...!I

0:42:26 > 0:42:32don't think this Swiss team are scared of Kevin Koe, they've played

0:42:32 > 0:42:36each other a lot in the past and they've had numerous wins along the

0:42:36 > 0:42:40way, including the one in the round robin, like you said. And you know

0:42:40 > 0:42:44what, Benoit Schwarz is cool as a cucumber out there. He's very good

0:42:44 > 0:42:53under pressure.

0:42:57 > 0:43:03These two teams have played each other four times already this season

0:43:03 > 0:43:12and they're two each, so it looks like a 50-50.

0:43:20 > 0:43:34Marc Kennedy, big push. That's a trademark Marc Kennedy shot. Didn't

0:43:34 > 0:43:43see that smile too often yesterday. Yeah, easy to make the double there

0:43:43 > 0:43:48but to run it right through towards the button as well, it's a super

0:43:48 > 0:43:58shot. Really well judged by the Canadians.

0:43:58 > 0:44:06And if Switzerland are to make a good fist of this semifinal, then

0:44:06 > 0:44:09they just can't let Canada jump out of the blocks here and get away from

0:44:09 > 0:44:17them, because I think a frontrunning Kevin Koe will be a different matter

0:44:17 > 0:44:22to what we saw yesterday.

0:44:22 > 0:44:27to what we saw yesterday. So, he needs to get in past this guard

0:44:27 > 0:44:30here... Just get spy. It's going to be a good shot, nicely done. Very

0:44:30 > 0:44:39nicely done. Benoit Schwarz, not the skip but he's given the job of

0:44:39 > 0:44:45playing the vital last stone is, and he's come up with another pearler

0:44:45 > 0:44:52there.Yeah, Benoit Schwarz is going to be the key for Switzerland today.

0:44:52 > 0:44:57We saw in the round robin he was on imperious form and looked almost

0:44:57 > 0:45:02unbeatable. So, if he can reproduce some of those performances today,

0:45:02 > 0:45:07there's no doubt that Switzerland could take the bronze today.

0:45:14 > 0:45:23And anxious look. That is pulling already. It will be very close.

0:45:23 > 0:45:32There is a collective sigh. He matches Benoit shorts down the other

0:45:32 > 0:45:37side -- Benoit Schwartz.

0:45:37 > 0:45:40side -- Benoit Schwartz. Here's the guy you want on the inside these

0:45:40 > 0:45:45shots. Anything else would have caught the guard.

0:46:03 > 0:46:08If he gets this right and he is just going to try and follow the same

0:46:08 > 0:46:15extent as last time, and then Canada force the option to blank. If he

0:46:15 > 0:46:20catches the guard, but he won't do that, but it won't hang around in

0:46:20 > 0:46:32there. He is saying, OK, have your one if you want to.

0:46:32 > 0:46:38That first studied was important, if he hadn't got that right -- that

0:46:38 > 0:46:42first stone. Both teams will be reasonably happy with the first end,

0:46:42 > 0:46:49blanked end.

0:46:49 > 0:46:56I think Jackie was telling me come I can't think who it was, she said

0:46:56 > 0:47:03Hasselborg, if they have the hammer, they like to blank the first end, I

0:47:03 > 0:47:11think she said that. It is important for both teams to settle into this.

0:47:11 > 0:47:16It is a nervous situation. Kevin Koe, a very different set of

0:47:16 > 0:47:21parameters for them. They have said, we haven't got what we came here to

0:47:21 > 0:47:29get up we want to take something home. -- but we want to. For

0:47:29 > 0:47:35Switzerland, it would be a great achievement, a bronze in Kantorova

0:47:35 > 0:47:42-- a bronze in Vancouver and Salt Lake City.

0:47:43 > 0:47:51Lake City. Both skips as well have been here this last couple

0:47:51 > 0:47:56been here this last couple of weeks, the performance director for Swiss

0:47:56 > 0:48:01curling.

0:48:03 > 0:48:08curling. Maybe we have a little bit of an inside look into what the

0:48:08 > 0:48:17Canadians are feeling. Ben Hebert slammed his brush when Benoit

0:48:17 > 0:48:26chipped that stoned out, thinking they would score two. -- stone.

0:48:26 > 0:48:38A little bit petulant. If they think Switzerland are just going to lay

0:48:38 > 0:48:49down and let the Canadians take this bronze medal,

0:48:49 > 0:48:51bronze medal, but with Benoit Schwarz they have someone capable of

0:48:51 > 0:48:58making consistent shots. A strategic thinker.

0:49:05 > 0:49:10They are playing on one of the middle sheets. The British match

0:49:10 > 0:49:17against Sweden will be on one of the middle sheets, the semifinals played

0:49:17 > 0:49:24simultaneously later on. Career against Japan

0:49:25 > 0:49:28against Japan will be on the left-hand side -- Korir against

0:49:28 > 0:49:35Japan. The different sheets do make a difference, they play differently,

0:49:35 > 0:49:40all week we have seen that.

0:49:56 > 0:50:01Some indecision yesterday with Canada. A fair bit of discussion on

0:50:01 > 0:50:11occasion. Koe obviously has a lot of experience in that team, Ben Hebert

0:50:11 > 0:50:25and Marc Kennedy have won medals before, in 2010, with Kevin Martin.

0:50:36 > 0:50:49The Canadian lead has got his own fan club out there.

0:51:07 > 0:51:11This second end is starting similarly to the first, really, take

0:51:11 > 0:51:19out being exchanged at the front of the house. They don't want it to jam

0:51:19 > 0:51:25on the back red, how does look? It bounces off. There won't be too

0:51:25 > 0:51:34worried losing that back red, more of a hindrance than a help.

0:51:36 > 0:51:44Claudio Pescia on the right, so the medal in B World Championships,

0:51:44 > 0:51:50along with Ralph Stoeckli, he also played for Italy. You are making the

0:51:50 > 0:51:59point earlier on, in the interview at the beginning, one of the things

0:51:59 > 0:52:04Kevin Koe said, as you are saying, Canada 80 get used to the idea of

0:52:04 > 0:52:10the rest of the world -- need to get used to the idea that the rest of

0:52:10 > 0:52:17the world is catching up, this is a different format. With the round

0:52:17 > 0:52:23robin, there is no sudden death. Saying they need to be better than

0:52:23 > 0:52:30that, understand it is a one-off game. And he made that point about

0:52:30 > 0:52:34Canadian coach is all over the world now. We have Glenn Howard with the

0:52:34 > 0:52:41British women's team. Acknowledging their years of experience being

0:52:41 > 0:52:45ploughed into programmes around the world with talented colours. It is

0:52:45 > 0:52:49bound to bear fruit as we have seen at these Games.

0:52:49 > 0:52:55And it is not just that, it is the fact pretty much every other nation

0:52:55 > 0:52:59than Canada and the USA, are funding athletes on a full-time basis, they

0:52:59 > 0:53:04don't have to juggle work commitments and quite often younger

0:53:04 > 0:53:10players as well, so they don't have families to worry about either.

0:53:10 > 0:53:18As I alluded to yesterday, teams like Sweden have set the pace for

0:53:18 > 0:53:23the rest of the world. They go to Canada, they spent weeks, months

0:53:23 > 0:53:29there. Training in their facilities with the best coaches in Canada and

0:53:29 > 0:53:33learning from the best teams, they have such a good talent pool it was

0:53:33 > 0:53:41only a matter of time before the rest of the world caught up.

0:53:41 > 0:53:49The president of the IOC I can see sitting and watching, Thomas Bach,

0:53:49 > 0:53:58for this bronze medal match.

0:54:05 > 0:54:10Claudio Pescia played very well against Great Britain, he kept

0:54:10 > 0:54:23Switzerland in touch. Making consistently good shots. You may

0:54:23 > 0:54:30wonder why Peter De Cruz is throwing second stones as the skip which is a

0:54:30 > 0:54:37sign of the ability of the other players. They are happy for him to

0:54:37 > 0:54:40throw second and be the brains behind the operation.

0:54:40 > 0:54:47Switzerland keeping the pressure on, this one again, two stones in. Not

0:54:47 > 0:54:54too much panic from Canada yet, here.

0:54:56 > 0:55:03here. So, Mark Kennedy, all action man, up and down the ice, always

0:55:03 > 0:55:08full of energy, usually quite the Severus.

0:55:08 > 0:55:13Not a hair out of place either!

0:55:20 > 0:55:27He can't get that one by. We saw with Kevin Koe in the first end, but

0:55:27 > 0:55:29not that time for Marc Kennedy.

0:55:33 > 0:55:44And the way it goes.

0:55:44 > 0:55:51This has already got the makings of I hope a really good bronze medal

0:55:51 > 0:55:56match here. The losers finish with nothing. Always a horrible place to

0:55:56 > 0:56:04be in any Olympic Games, finishing fourth.

0:56:09 > 0:56:15They are just going to pop that guard back in place. They have a

0:56:15 > 0:56:21nice read in there on the centre line, a good shot again from Claudio

0:56:21 > 0:56:30Paetz. His sister, world champion Alena.

0:56:34 > 0:56:40It is very quiet in this arena during this match, the only one

0:56:40 > 0:56:45obviously so there is a bit of noise with three or four matches. It will

0:56:45 > 0:56:52be a little bit more like that when the British women are written with

0:56:52 > 0:56:57the two semifinals in place. And he misses. Not only that, he has

0:56:57 > 0:57:03sent that yellow in front of that other red as well.

0:57:03 > 0:57:07I don't think Canada will be too worried about that, at this point,

0:57:07 > 0:57:16they will be more worried about the stone at the top of the button.

0:57:16 > 0:57:21The real problem Canada have at the moment is they need to move that red

0:57:21 > 0:57:26stone, so putting a guard on, but it will be difficult for Canada to

0:57:26 > 0:57:32score.

0:57:40 > 0:57:49Benoit Schwarz started this match well. Just keep going a little bit.

0:57:49 > 0:57:55That is not bad. Another nice shot from Switzerland.

0:57:55 > 0:57:58It is just to the right of the centreline as we look at it from

0:57:58 > 0:58:08behind. He will try another run back here. He needs to shift it.

0:58:19 > 0:58:26Of course, if he leaves his yellow sitting where this red is, there is

0:58:26 > 0:58:30still a chance for Benoit Schwarz to draw into the button again. Let us

0:58:30 > 0:58:37see how he goes.

0:58:43 > 0:58:52He was hoping for a little role, but that yellow is still out there. --

0:58:52 > 0:58:59roll.. So, he did part of the job. And there is another Swiss stone in

0:58:59 > 0:59:09the house. The option of a blanket end not here, really. Let us see how

0:59:09 > 0:59:21accurate Benoit Schwarz can be here -- blanked end.

0:59:43 > 0:59:47This is coming in nicely, it is whether or not they can get it to

0:59:47 > 0:59:53turn and bring it on the button. Not a bad effort, a good shot. Just

0:59:53 > 0:59:58giving Kevin Koe a little bit of room to come in. He has is to come

0:59:58 > 1:00:04around, followed the same route.

1:00:04 > 1:00:09That's perfect, really, from Benoit Schwarz, doesn't leave any of its

1:00:09 > 1:00:18sticking out so that Canada can play a tap back.

1:00:19 > 1:00:24a tap back.Well, Rachel Homan didn't manage to get her team even

1:00:24 > 1:00:28into the semifinals, the Canadian skip

1:00:28 > 1:00:33into the semifinals, the Canadian skip, but she's got her seat right

1:00:33 > 1:00:41next to the president of the IOC for this!Consolation prize! I think it

1:00:41 > 1:00:47is! Maybe she can explain what's going on in Canadian curling to the

1:00:47 > 1:00:54president of the IOC. Has it got the legs...? Has it got the legs to get

1:00:54 > 1:00:59in? It's just going to catch that stone... Oh, I think that is one for

1:00:59 > 1:01:07Switzerland. They're just having a look... Yep, it is. Steal for

1:01:07 > 1:01:11Switzerland, then. So, the first score in this bronze medal match

1:01:11 > 1:01:15goes to the Swiss team, they've started very well indeed. And Anwar

1:01:15 > 1:01:18Schwartz with a couple of nice shots, both in the first end and

1:01:18 > 1:01:25following it in the second as well, stealing one against Hannah do. So,

1:01:25 > 1:01:28after two ends, once more Canada find themselves behind. -- against

1:01:28 > 1:01:33Canada.

1:01:33 > 1:01:36Canada. Good start for Switzerland. Very good. I'd say they've really

1:01:36 > 1:01:41dig dated the first two ends as well, which will be even more

1:01:41 > 1:01:53concerning for the Canadians than the scoreline. -- really dictated.

1:01:53 > 1:01:59Canada are winning in the slam department, though. That's the

1:01:59 > 1:02:02second one I've seen from them!We should remind everybody that they

1:02:02 > 1:02:07won the gold medal in the mixed doubles, but in the traditional team

1:02:07 > 1:02:09competition, if Canada go home with no medal? It is completely

1:02:09 > 1:02:16unthinkable. The Canadians always prided themselves, growing up on the

1:02:16 > 1:02:21ice and the snow, they always bank on being top of the podium, really,

1:02:21 > 1:02:29in the Olympics. After Sochi, anyway, with a clean sweep of both

1:02:29 > 1:02:32the men's, the women's and the wheelchair curling in the

1:02:32 > 1:02:36Paralympics as well. They've still got that one to come, of course, and

1:02:36 > 1:02:42the added discipline of the mixed doubles, they've got a gold there.

1:02:42 > 1:02:49That's probably the one they least expect it it.Yeah, it's funny, John

1:02:49 > 1:02:51Morrison may have thought, our medal will not really be noticed very

1:02:51 > 1:02:58much. And it's being polished brightly now by Canadian curling

1:02:58 > 1:03:05fans.

1:03:05 > 1:03:15fans. Ben is already working up a little bit of a sweat there. Still

1:03:15 > 1:03:25going... It's OK.

1:03:28 > 1:03:32You almost feel for Switzerland, it's almost like they've got nothing

1:03:32 > 1:03:36to lose here. If they get beaten by Canada in the bronze medal match,

1:03:36 > 1:03:41nobody is going to say, you didn't do very well. They have got

1:03:41 > 1:03:46themselves in this position, in the last four, in the semifinal. We knew

1:03:46 > 1:03:51that Sweden and Canada were the two outstanding teams. They got beaten

1:03:51 > 1:03:56by Sweden, they're in this one against Canada. If you get beaten by

1:03:56 > 1:03:59those two, no-one is going to say, you didn't do well. So, they've got

1:03:59 > 1:04:04nothing to lose here. And they have the added confidence of having

1:04:04 > 1:04:11beaten them in the round robin, so there's still great opportunity here

1:04:11 > 1:04:15for Peter de Cruz and his team, they're up into seventh in the world

1:04:15 > 1:04:20rankings and they won their first Grand Slam of curling event this

1:04:20 > 1:04:22season as well, so, a bronze medal here would really be the icing on

1:04:22 > 1:04:32the cake. That's a good shot there by Ben Hebert. Sticks in front of

1:04:32 > 1:04:38the red Stonebridge makes it a little bit more difficult to lie two

1:04:38 > 1:04:48for Switzerland.

1:04:48 > 1:04:55THEY SPEAK FRENCH

1:04:55 > 1:05:02So, this Swiss skip, prefers to play number two in his team. From the

1:05:02 > 1:05:10Curling Club in Geneva. A bit of a 40 fan.

1:05:12 > 1:05:2340 fan. -- footie fan. I guess the Swiss women over the years, they've

1:05:23 > 1:05:29tended to have more attention, I guess, over the years?Yeah,

1:05:29 > 1:05:33Switzerland had a very dominant period in the women's game, where I

1:05:33 > 1:05:37think they won four out of five World Championships, or something

1:05:37 > 1:05:44like that between about 2012 and 2016. So, yeah, the men's game has

1:05:44 > 1:05:47been in the shadow, but they've got a couple of really strong teams

1:05:47 > 1:05:51coming through. They've done well at the European Championships as well.

1:05:51 > 1:05:56They had the winning team in 2013, believe. But I think the Swiss

1:05:56 > 1:05:59programme is seen as one of the leading lights, they've got a very

1:05:59 > 1:06:06fairer system. They have a small curling communities had they have

1:06:06 > 1:06:10three or four very strong teams in both the men's and women's, and they

1:06:10 > 1:06:15let them play it out amongst themselves to see who gets these big

1:06:15 > 1:06:20events, there's no selection involved. It is very much, get a

1:06:20 > 1:06:23team together, if we like what you're doing, we will find you and

1:06:23 > 1:06:27if you meet the criteria, you can go to the Olympic Games. And that's

1:06:27 > 1:06:33what brought Peter de Cruz here.

1:06:33 > 1:06:36what brought Peter de Cruz here. -- we will fund you. And, of course,

1:06:36 > 1:06:41this success, even getting to the bronze medal match, that adds to the

1:06:41 > 1:06:50process as well.

1:06:55 > 1:06:59LOGAN GRAY: We're seeing Switzerland play a very defensive game at the

1:06:59 > 1:07:05moment, they're not taking too much risk, playing a lot of takeouts.

1:07:05 > 1:07:09They will have been watching the US again yesterday to find out what

1:07:09 > 1:07:12sort of game plan they had, and perhaps something they can replicate

1:07:12 > 1:07:19here against the Canadians. We saw John Schuster not get sucked into

1:07:19 > 1:07:25much and involved in a game with lots of freezes and taps, they kept

1:07:25 > 1:07:32things really open and that frustrated the Canadians.

1:07:32 > 1:07:36STEVE CRAM: This has got plenty on it here. We just heard him say it

1:07:36 > 1:07:41was heavy, and this is just going to keep going... Just catches enough to

1:07:41 > 1:07:48slow it down. It nearly went completely through.

1:07:54 > 1:07:58So, thinking about coming in on top of these two.

1:08:00 > 1:08:07THEY SPEAK FRENCH

1:08:07 > 1:08:13Canada still have the hammer, of course. They've had it from the

1:08:13 > 1:08:16beginning, blanking the first end. If you have just woken up, the

1:08:16 > 1:08:21bronze medal match, Canada, having lost to the USA, Switzerland, a

1:08:21 > 1:08:25heavy defeat to Sweden in the semifinal, but they're delighted to

1:08:25 > 1:08:31be in this match and have started very well indeed.

1:08:32 > 1:08:36very well indeed. Great Britain's women, their semifinal, 11am. Get

1:08:36 > 1:08:46yourself a good long lunch break ready, Friday afternoon, long lunch.

1:08:46 > 1:08:53A bit of curling to watch a. He's played that quite nicely.Yeah, very

1:08:53 > 1:08:56well indeed, right in that pocket and going nowhere at the moment.

1:08:56 > 1:09:02However, it is open, and Canada will try and tap that now and stay frozen

1:09:02 > 1:09:09on the face of that room

1:09:09 > 1:09:15on the face of that room -- on the face of that red stone.

1:09:24 > 1:09:31PLAYER: Wait for it!Definitely enough to kill it, we're almost to

1:09:31 > 1:09:37the hack...

1:09:37 > 1:09:43Just struggling with their weight a little bit here, Canada. It may well

1:09:43 > 1:09:50just be Switzerland still sitting shot there. Sorry, second shot. The

1:09:50 > 1:10:01first one, of course, top left of the 4ft.

1:10:01 > 1:10:08the 4ft. He's not that demonstrative, Kevin Koe, neither is

1:10:08 > 1:10:13Peter de Cruz. None of the Swiss guys seem to get that excited. There

1:10:13 > 1:10:24has been a bit of frustration from Ben Hebert, a bit of brush slapping.

1:10:24 > 1:10:32Probably a better phrase than that - brush slamming!

1:10:32 > 1:10:34brush slamming! Well, the crowd doing their best to get behind

1:10:34 > 1:10:42Canada. Two or three factions of Canadian supporters. And here come

1:10:42 > 1:10:49the Swiss!Sometimes the teams just need a little bit of time to look

1:10:49 > 1:10:53over situations that are quite unusual, and this one is quite

1:10:53 > 1:10:57unusual in that there is a cluster of stones right on the backline.

1:10:57 > 1:11:02Usually it would be up nearer the tee line. It does look like

1:11:02 > 1:11:09Barrakilla try and remove some yellow granite here.

1:11:14 > 1:11:20Needs to hit on the inside here...

1:11:20 > 1:11:25Well, he's done well, he's taken two of them out, Claudio Patz again, in

1:11:25 > 1:11:29good form early on here. So, Switzerland once more, keeping

1:11:29 > 1:11:40control of this end. And Marc Kennedy now, then, trying to help

1:11:40 > 1:11:49his skip a little. Much as we head in the match against USA, they're

1:11:49 > 1:11:53not playing horrendous shots, just not quite giving what the skip

1:11:53 > 1:11:58needs.

1:12:02 > 1:12:07needs. So, they want to try and tidy things up a little bit, because with

1:12:07 > 1:12:14Switzerland having got the steal in that second end...

1:12:15 > 1:12:17that second end...Well, he lives red in there. He was after all

1:12:17 > 1:12:21three, wasn't he?And be potentially, but they've left quite

1:12:21 > 1:12:24a good opportunity here for Switzerland to lie two. Rider

1:12:24 > 1:12:30another look. They wanted to try and clip the other red. -- here's

1:12:30 > 1:12:35another look.

1:12:40 > 1:12:43another look.Right, little time out, I think we've got another loose

1:12:43 > 1:12:47handle. And here we go, the star of the week.Your favourite part of

1:12:47 > 1:12:54show, Steve! It is! Matt Hamilton and his moustache have become very

1:12:54 > 1:13:02famous, and the moustache now has its own Twitter account. I think

1:13:06 > 1:13:10its own Twitter account. I think the allen key now needs its own Twitter

1:13:10 > 1:13:15account. We could get behind the scenes stuff from the allen key,

1:13:15 > 1:13:18sitting around all day waiting to see if it is going to be needed or

1:13:18 > 1:13:24not! This is a first, it is a bronze medal match, so we need two men to

1:13:24 > 1:13:30bring out the allen key this time! Now, this is a first! Normally it is

1:13:30 > 1:13:34just a one! I'm sure it's because it is a bronze medal match, we've now

1:13:34 > 1:13:39got two people involved in tightening the handle. Well done.

1:13:39 > 1:13:49And the yellow allen key goes back in its box.Fascinating stuff!

1:13:49 > 1:13:58So, Benoit Schwarz, then, handle tightened. Trying to increase the

1:13:58 > 1:14:08pressure on Canada here.

1:14:12 > 1:14:20Parfait! So, two Swiss stones again. And we have said, both of the first

1:14:20 > 1:14:25two ends. Kevin Koe blanked the first end. Sadly for him, couldn't

1:14:25 > 1:14:29do the same in the second. So, once again, a bit of bother here, the

1:14:29 > 1:14:37Canadian skip.

1:14:38 > 1:14:44PLAYER: That's the way I would be seeing it...About a quarter...No,

1:14:44 > 1:14:50it won't...

1:14:50 > 1:14:58STEVE CRAM: Canada get a one, you're tied up, they've got to get

1:14:58 > 1:15:03something on the scoreboard here, right?They definitely don't want to

1:15:03 > 1:15:10lose any shots here, and I don't see that happening.

1:15:10 > 1:15:21that happening. That big swing from Kevin Koe. Has he got this right and

1:15:21 > 1:15:28wants both of them. Just gets one.

1:15:28 > 1:15:34Well, it's not quite working out for Canada yet. And you can tell that by

1:15:34 > 1:15:42the looks and the demeanour of the whole team. It's early days yet. So

1:15:42 > 1:15:49far for Switzerland, this is an excellent start.

1:15:54 > 1:16:02It is the Swiss fans who are chanting.

1:16:11 > 1:16:15Switzerland will buy another one into the house, that is all they

1:16:15 > 1:16:23need to do, it doesn't matter too much -- bung one. They are just

1:16:23 > 1:16:29forcing Canada to score a one, so that can get that all-important last

1:16:29 > 1:16:40stone advantage back in the fourth end.

1:16:44 > 1:16:53Kevin Koe, again, this end has not gone the way they wanted. But if he

1:16:53 > 1:16:56can get a straightforward draw and get Canada on the scoreboard and

1:16:56 > 1:17:07level after three. Switzerland will then have the hammer.

1:17:11 > 1:17:16I love the fact, even when he's playing a big way, it comes back

1:17:16 > 1:17:22behind, but even when he is playing a straightforward draw, there was

1:17:22 > 1:17:25that little list of the stone before he delivers it.

1:17:25 > 1:17:33What does he look at on the ice? This one is through. My word. There

1:17:33 > 1:17:38is a stone at the back, will it catch enough of it? Well, he has

1:17:38 > 1:17:44given one up there. Was it one? I think it was one, one for

1:17:44 > 1:17:51Switzerland.Goodness me. They must be thinking, what on earth

1:17:51 > 1:17:59is going on. Lads, gather round. We have just picked up two steals. I

1:17:59 > 1:18:03was watching the bottom stone. I wasn't quite sure where that other

1:18:03 > 1:18:08Swiss stone was sitting, it was nearly two, that almost went all the

1:18:08 > 1:18:12way through. I bet they can hardly believe what has happened here. They

1:18:12 > 1:18:20have picked up two steals in the first three. That is a genuine

1:18:20 > 1:18:26horrendous mistake from Kevin Koe. A really poor shot from Ngakoue. A

1:18:26 > 1:18:30loss of concentration. This guy doesn't miss shots, I don't know

1:18:30 > 1:18:38what has happened in the last couple of games. This Canadian team, for

1:18:38 > 1:18:43them to lose two steals in one game, is almost unthinkable. To lose

1:18:43 > 1:18:53back-to-back steals is very unusual. Thomas Bach is so shocked by what he

1:18:53 > 1:19:00is seeing he is leaving! I think he is off to go and get

1:19:00 > 1:19:04around the Olympic Park, there is still plenty going on in the last

1:19:04 > 1:19:10couple of days, last three days, two curling matches tomorrow, the

1:19:10 > 1:19:14women's bronze medal match and gold medal match in the men's condition,

1:19:14 > 1:19:18then the women's gold medal match is on Sunday morning local time here,

1:19:18 > 1:19:26midnight Saturday night. It will be great if Eve Muirhead and her team

1:19:26 > 1:19:34could be in that match. The semifinal to decide that later on.

1:19:36 > 1:19:42So, Ben Hebert, look at that game accuracy, 100%, doing his part. The

1:19:42 > 1:19:49lead for Canada. Always very reliable. He is watching his

1:19:49 > 1:19:54team-mates. You can't just blame Kevin Koe because Kennedy and Laing

1:19:54 > 1:20:04haven't been playing that well either. But it is still easy in

1:20:04 > 1:20:12terms of, you would think, Canada, get it level after four. One thing

1:20:12 > 1:20:18from a Swiss point of view, as when great prison were playing Toseland,

1:20:18 > 1:20:21Switzerland are properly thinking Canada can't keep playing like this

1:20:21 > 1:20:26all the way through, they will get better. They need to stick to the

1:20:26 > 1:20:30task and keep playing the way they are. They certainly haven't missed

1:20:30 > 1:20:34much. I am try to think of a bad shot from Switzerland.

1:20:34 > 1:20:42They have been very steady. Nothing particularly special. But they are

1:20:42 > 1:20:45not making any mistakes which is what we saw from the USA, very

1:20:45 > 1:20:51steady. Canada made some key misses which is what has happened again

1:20:51 > 1:20:58today. Trying to sit right on top of this

1:20:58 > 1:21:05Swiss red.

1:21:06 > 1:21:13Ben Hebert has not cleared any poor shots, another decent one from him

1:21:13 > 1:21:15there.

1:21:20 > 1:21:30Just quietly going about their business, the Swiss.

1:21:30 > 1:21:35Claudio Paetz and Ben Swartz were in Sochi, but in a different team. This

1:21:35 > 1:21:43team has had a great past 18 months in championships, doing very well.

1:21:53 > 1:21:59Just testing the bumpers at the end of the ice.

1:21:59 > 1:22:04Not quite what he wanted. Why on earth is he slamming his brush down

1:22:04 > 1:22:16there? When he has played his shots. Just really the sheer frustration of

1:22:16 > 1:22:21what is happening out there. Canada need to get it together, they have

1:22:21 > 1:22:25seven ends to play in their Olympic Games, they need to make the most of

1:22:25 > 1:22:31that opportunity.

1:22:31 > 1:22:33that opportunity.Evidence of Laing. That percentage can change

1:22:33 > 1:22:41radically. Not being the best of starts from the Canadian second.

1:22:41 > 1:22:49Trying to sweep this hard as well. It is just going to catch that.

1:22:50 > 1:22:55It is just going to catch that.It is just like two ends ago.

1:22:55 > 1:22:58They have really struggled with their weight, politically down that

1:22:58 > 1:23:05side, coming this way.

1:23:05 > 1:23:10I guess when you play the first couple, you think of you had to

1:23:10 > 1:23:14adjust. Surely these guys are experienced enough.

1:23:14 > 1:23:21What I am seeing from this Canadian team right now is they are playing

1:23:21 > 1:23:26like four individuals, you need someone to step up and really gelled

1:23:26 > 1:23:30everyone and bring them together and bring some positivity and

1:23:30 > 1:23:34enthusiasm. I thought Marc Kennedy was that guy in the team. He seemed

1:23:34 > 1:23:41to be leading the way. But he has been walking off, not speaking to

1:23:41 > 1:23:44the others. That will be the key for them.

1:23:44 > 1:23:48That is exactly what happened yesterday. They were standing away

1:23:48 > 1:23:54from each other.

1:23:57 > 1:24:05Now they gather at the bottom end to watch behind this stone. The Swiss

1:24:05 > 1:24:09skip Peter De Cruz knows they have started well. They want to keep

1:24:09 > 1:24:14playing the way they have done so far. They want to try and get this

1:24:14 > 1:24:19by, they have done as well. That tucks in right on the bottom,

1:24:19 > 1:24:27another nice shot from the Swiss skip.

1:24:27 > 1:24:33Switzerland are just loving it right now, really enjoying themselves.

1:24:33 > 1:24:37They are continuing to keep the pressure up at a high level on the

1:24:37 > 1:24:43Canadians. Those thick dark eyebrows giving him that look as if he is

1:24:43 > 1:24:47slightly puzzled. But he has it well worked out here.

1:24:57 > 1:25:02It is a better shot this time from Laing.

1:25:02 > 1:25:07Living things around a little bit, Canada cannot keep allowing The Slad

1:25:07 > 1:25:12to keep dominating these end. By the time they get to the skip stones the

1:25:12 > 1:25:16opportunity has gone. Just try to move things around, a much better

1:25:16 > 1:25:21result this time. -- just trying to move things

1:25:21 > 1:25:26around. There are plenty of stones upfront which is always going to be

1:25:26 > 1:25:32a little bit of a hindrance for Canada. But a little more room now.

1:25:32 > 1:25:43Claudio Paetz. Here's conscience he either doesn't stop the run back, is

1:25:43 > 1:25:52that the idea? Get a long guard in place.

1:26:15 > 1:26:19That is pretty close to where he wanted it, it just puts that long

1:26:19 > 1:26:25guard in place and he wants to stop the run back there. They are

1:26:25 > 1:26:31thinking about making both of them, it is pretty straight. So, Marc

1:26:31 > 1:26:39Kennedy, trying to use that read. And keep that going back. -- trying

1:26:39 > 1:26:53to use that red. And try to remove that red that is in the forefront.

1:27:00 > 1:27:06That wasn't close. He has removed two stones but his shooter is

1:27:06 > 1:27:11sitting out there now. It is a little clearer down the middle so,

1:27:11 > 1:27:19in that case, Swiss land will try to block that gap. -- Switzerland.

1:27:19 > 1:27:24There was the chance that this medal, if Canada were to win a

1:27:24 > 1:27:28curling medal, that would take them beyond their record medal haul in

1:27:28 > 1:27:36Vancouver but I am being told they have already managed that.

1:27:41 > 1:27:48Canada having a very good Games but not necessarily at the curling. I

1:27:48 > 1:27:52suppose you could argue there is one extra medal available because of the

1:27:52 > 1:27:54mixed doubles. It is going to come in further than

1:27:54 > 1:28:01he intended. But it is still guarding that red but easier to run

1:28:01 > 1:28:06this back, now. I believe there are four new events

1:28:06 > 1:28:10at this year's Winter Olympics, I am not sure if it is at the expense of

1:28:10 > 1:28:16others or not.

1:28:16 > 1:28:22others or not. So, Switzerland still looking good here. Another end going

1:28:22 > 1:28:30their way.Trying to make the run back. He has got it this time. A

1:28:30 > 1:28:38good effort.A great shot.

1:28:38 > 1:28:41good effort.A great shot. At the front of the white circle. Great

1:28:41 > 1:28:53shot by Marc Kennedy. A perfect stone.

1:28:55 > 1:29:04He just spun it far enough. So, Canada, for once, lying shot, they

1:29:04 > 1:29:10haven't been in this position. Marc Kennedy coming up good there. You

1:29:10 > 1:29:15just feel as if Benoit Swartz is not going to make this that easy for

1:29:15 > 1:29:17Kevin Koe to get his two.

1:29:21 > 1:29:25I think this is the first time in the game that I thought Canada

1:29:25 > 1:29:32actually have the upper hand. It has taken a phenomenal shot by

1:29:32 > 1:29:37Marc Kennedy. That guard just went a little

1:29:37 > 1:29:43further than Switzerland wanted, to make the run back in little easier.

1:29:43 > 1:29:49A bit closer to that stone. Benoit Swartz tried to drive around, he did

1:29:49 > 1:29:54very well with his first three. That might just be sticking out a little

1:29:54 > 1:30:02but not much. That is fabulous by Benoit. Triple

1:30:02 > 1:30:07guarded as well, three yellow stone is protecting it in front. All Kevin

1:30:07 > 1:30:16Koe can really do is to try and freeze or tap it a little bit.

1:30:16 > 1:30:21They want to try and freeze on top as we saw going the other way, Kevin

1:30:21 > 1:30:26Koe struggling with his draw weight. He had to be much better this time.

1:30:32 > 1:30:38He's got to be much better this time.

1:30:46 > 1:30:51They can't really see any of it, so it's a case of coming round and just

1:30:51 > 1:31:01either tapping it a little or freeze on top of it if you possibly can.

1:31:01 > 1:31:06Won't be able to get completely on top, so Kevin Koe, then, really

1:31:06 > 1:31:14needs to find his draw weight here. It's curling again pretty quickly.

1:31:14 > 1:31:19They need to work this. This has got a chance to has it enough on it?

1:31:19 > 1:31:28This has got to be shot... It's not! And they over curled again there,

1:31:28 > 1:31:36they just cannot get to grips with that side of the sheet, that

1:31:36 > 1:31:39anticlockwise handle coming home. They just cannot get to grips with

1:31:39 > 1:31:46it.

1:31:46 > 1:31:50it.Just looking at what the route Inwood Beaver Kevin Koe, there's too

1:31:50 > 1:31:54many stones out front surely on that side, and they can't come in the

1:31:54 > 1:32:05other way, this is the only way in, really. -- what the route in wood be

1:32:05 > 1:32:13the Kevin Koe.Looks like it's going to be a high guard here for

1:32:13 > 1:32:19Switzerland. I would be a little bit concerned about the yellow corner

1:32:19 > 1:32:23guard on the other side of the sheet, on the right-hand side there.

1:32:23 > 1:32:26But I don't think there is too much they can do about it without leaving

1:32:26 > 1:32:32an easier shot for Canada.

1:32:49 > 1:32:54Kevin Koe is going to go out and start looking at these long corner

1:32:54 > 1:32:58guards and work out which one they can batter into that yellow stone at

1:32:58 > 1:33:04the top of the 4ft.

1:33:12 > 1:33:16This is such a hard shot, there's so much distance between the one

1:33:16 > 1:33:19they're hitting and the one they are trying to connect with down there.

1:33:19 > 1:33:23Has a good look straight down the line there. Could be a shot for

1:33:23 > 1:33:38three, though.It could be, but...I don't think we'll see the heaviest

1:33:38 > 1:33:45takeout weight that Kevin Koe has him -- has in his locker here, he'll

1:33:45 > 1:33:48be looking to some degree of control. The idea being he is going

1:33:48 > 1:33:55to take this guard and run it into the button, tap the red out and

1:33:55 > 1:34:02hopefully lie three, and I think it's got a chance... It's just going

1:34:02 > 1:34:06to spin out, he's only going to get two. It was a wonderful shot. Gets

1:34:06 > 1:34:11his two, and finally, and there have got something to cheer. And Kevin

1:34:11 > 1:34:17Koe... Has a little smile! And there's dancing in the aisles here!

1:34:17 > 1:34:28Welcome back, Kevin Koe! Great shot. STEVE CRAM: Well, he had to come up

1:34:28 > 1:34:32with something, because that was beginning to look like yet another

1:34:32 > 1:34:39steal for Switzerland. And Kevin Koe has stopped the damage getting

1:34:39 > 1:34:43worse, and has turned it around in the sense of his team managing to

1:34:43 > 1:34:48get something on the scoreboard. They've tied it up, Switzerland have

1:34:48 > 1:34:56the hammer. Away you go, mate!

1:35:05 > 1:35:09Logan label well, sometimes you just need to take your hat off to the

1:35:09 > 1:35:14opposition and say, fair enough, you deserved to score two there but I

1:35:14 > 1:35:16think Switzerland will be quite happy to force Canada to play shots

1:35:16 > 1:35:23like that every end to score.Yeah, they have to accept, they're not

1:35:23 > 1:35:28going to cruise through this, they're not going to steal every

1:35:28 > 1:35:32and, they're not going to have it all their own way. But when somebody

1:35:32 > 1:35:36plays a big shot, I have said this on more than one occasion, by making

1:35:36 > 1:35:41the opposition played big shots, they won't all come off, so

1:35:41 > 1:35:44Switzerland will be thinking, we just keep doing what we're doing,

1:35:44 > 1:35:49we've got a chance now to score ourselves, they've had to wait until

1:35:49 > 1:35:57the fifth end to have the hammer for the first time.

1:35:57 > 1:36:03the first time. So, Ben Hebert... Well, they wanted a guard here - are

1:36:03 > 1:36:16they going to get it?Hangs in there, doesn't come into the house.

1:36:21 > 1:36:24Still not a lot of discussion between the Canadians. You would

1:36:24 > 1:36:28have thought a big shot like that might just get them going a bit and

1:36:28 > 1:36:42galvanise them. They just still seem a bit at odds with one another.

1:36:46 > 1:36:52Another nice draw there from Valentin Tanner. Yeah, it's

1:36:52 > 1:36:58interesting. Is a

1:36:58 > 1:37:00interesting. Is a team sport, often you're interacting with each other a

1:37:00 > 1:37:04lot more in terms of the play, a team sport where each person has to

1:37:04 > 1:37:12play their shot and then you wait. And you have to really make sure

1:37:12 > 1:37:16that nobody's left kind of languishing, if snared not going

1:37:16 > 1:37:20well, you've got to get round each other, and certainly when somebody

1:37:20 > 1:37:23comes up with a shot like Kevin Koe did there, you would want to see

1:37:23 > 1:37:32them now schmo responsive. -- you would want to see them a little bit

1:37:32 > 1:37:37more responsive, a slightly less demonstrative lady in team than we

1:37:37 > 1:37:40have seen in the past. And maybe they also know that there is a long

1:37:40 > 1:37:46way to go here, and just keep their emotions in check for now. All they

1:37:46 > 1:37:50have done is square things up. -- Canadian team. So, Switzerland with

1:37:50 > 1:38:00the hammer, then. Got one in nicely on the button. Two Canadian stones

1:38:00 > 1:38:06in between. And Kevin Koe thinking ahead a little bit, just thinking he

1:38:06 > 1:38:13would like to have one sitting on top of his own yellow.

1:38:14 > 1:38:19top of his own yellow. So, Brent Laing...

1:38:21 > 1:38:31PLAYER: Hard line! We're there!As this one suddenly starts to curl a

1:38:31 > 1:38:34lot and the these guys have to work hard to get it in... And they've

1:38:34 > 1:38:40managed to do it. That's just going to sit there, a little tap, but it's

1:38:40 > 1:38:47a nice shot, probably the best shot from him in this match so far.

1:38:53 > 1:39:00And that's why it's called curling! When the speed starts to come out of

1:39:00 > 1:39:07it, it digs in and grips and turns, and that's how they get it in behind

1:39:07 > 1:39:16the guards.Peter de Cruz, three draws, 100%. Takeout this time...

1:39:16 > 1:39:20Oh, they just sneaked that in the side of the house as well.Yeah,

1:39:20 > 1:39:27that's worked out nicely for them. Those two yellows obviously out

1:39:27 > 1:39:36front. A couple of stones for them to work with later. That's why Kevin

1:39:36 > 1:39:44Koe is thinking about shifting them. The nice thing about that shot for

1:39:44 > 1:39:50Switzerland is that it's taking Canada away from the centre line and

1:39:50 > 1:39:56throwing the guard on those two frozen yellow stone is. Going to be

1:39:56 > 1:40:08forced to make a takeout on the wing here.Oh!Wow!Well, now, they've

1:40:08 > 1:40:16got two. Brent Laing, not the result he wanted at all!Well, you couldn't

1:40:16 > 1:40:24do that if you tried, really. It's just gone sideways across the house!

1:40:26 > 1:40:30And sometimes, I think I've said before, if you think the look is

1:40:30 > 1:40:34going against you, you cannot let that get to you. You've got to

1:40:34 > 1:40:39think, something will work for us. -- the luck. If it was an unlucky

1:40:39 > 1:40:45shot, you just have to accept that. If you start thinking, it's not our

1:40:45 > 1:40:56day, you're in real trouble. Switzerland don't like those two

1:40:56 > 1:40:59yellow stones at the front of the house, I don't know if they can

1:40:59 > 1:41:06squeeze the one between the two reds.

1:41:06 > 1:41:10reds.Just coming down with a little bit of reds I think to spread these

1:41:10 > 1:41:19apart. -- a little bit of weight. Oh, he just nicked the one on the

1:41:19 > 1:41:26button. Maybe that was just slightly misjudged the leak by the Swiss.A

1:41:26 > 1:41:32little sigh there for the first time from Peter de Cruz. He would have

1:41:32 > 1:41:37loved to have just pushed that yellow through.

1:41:41 > 1:41:47You will kill the red, and that's all that really matters...

1:41:50 > 1:41:54You always get the feeling Marc Kennedy would just like to play big

1:41:54 > 1:42:03hits all day long. What can I hit?! PLAYER: Don't freak me out like

1:42:03 > 1:42:14that!Yeah, if you ever did that... If it jams there, we get shot.

1:42:15 > 1:42:20If it jams there, we get shot.A little bit high, centreline high...

1:42:20 > 1:42:31Just a bit on the side of it?Well, that's not what we were thinking...

1:42:31 > 1:42:37STEVE CRAM: So, Ben comes in with a completely different view of things!

1:42:37 > 1:42:46If it doesn't touch the red, though, it's...Hit it clean, home...I

1:42:46 > 1:42:54know.If you tap it right down the nose...You can't go too far, you've

1:42:54 > 1:43:00got to stay on the ice. You've got to keep this more... I think it

1:43:00 > 1:43:05looks like a nose to me, guys. STEVE CRAM: This is reminiscent of

1:43:05 > 1:43:09the match against USA, when they were taking a long time to make

1:43:09 > 1:43:13their mind up about what to play, everybody chipping in. They've got a

1:43:13 > 1:43:18lot of experience between the four of them, obviously. This team was

1:43:18 > 1:43:23put together four years ago. A collection of other teams, if you

1:43:23 > 1:43:31like. Kevin Koe getting these three to join him. But they've all got

1:43:31 > 1:43:40great experience, they'll all have their thoughts.

1:43:40 > 1:43:43their thoughts.Logan label Kevin Koe is still standing there

1:43:43 > 1:43:48deliberating over it, but I think he's committed to it.Maybe even a

1:43:48 > 1:43:55little more... Don't think you need more...They're just going to try

1:43:55 > 1:44:01and bump those red and yellow stones at the front of the house and move

1:44:01 > 1:44:05the Canadian stone a little bit closer to the button.So, I think

1:44:05 > 1:44:10this is Ben's suggestion.

1:44:13 > 1:44:18PLAYER: Stay closer!

1:44:23 > 1:44:27It was just the weight that beat that one, if you throw it a little

1:44:27 > 1:44:34bit heavy then it tends to run straight.

1:44:34 > 1:44:38straight.And I think that's my point before, Ben came in, because

1:44:38 > 1:44:45that's not the shot that Marc Kennedy wanted to play. And yet...

1:44:45 > 1:44:53Ben came in and changed the mind of the skip. And

1:44:53 > 1:44:56the skip. And that means Marc is playing a shot he didn't think he

1:44:56 > 1:45:00was going to play.I think we've said it a few times already this

1:45:00 > 1:45:06week, quite often, your first instinct is your best instinct. And

1:45:06 > 1:45:10you're right, Marc Kennedy's first instinct was to get those stones out

1:45:10 > 1:45:17of there. Canada could be in a bit of trouble here, if Claudio Patz

1:45:17 > 1:45:26does a good job with this shot. Has he stuck it? He has!Well, this is

1:45:26 > 1:45:32beginning to develop nicely for Switzerland. A little smile from

1:45:32 > 1:45:38Claudio. Won't see much fist pumping or shouting and hollering from this

1:45:38 > 1:45:43Swiss team.

1:45:44 > 1:45:47Swiss team.Well, full team conference again here, all Canadian

1:45:47 > 1:45:50players down at the playing end of the ice.

1:46:07 > 1:46:16I am close to seeing this definitely hit this.I do think it does.

1:46:16 > 1:46:24I think what Marc Kennedy is saying is, please give me a hit here.

1:46:24 > 1:46:32It is enough to definitely drag. It is just if this eight doesn't go, it

1:46:32 > 1:46:39is going to do something like this and this will be right here.

1:46:39 > 1:46:45and this will be right here. How could it possibly have enough spin?

1:46:46 > 1:46:50I don't see three. What they are talking about here is definitely a

1:46:50 > 1:46:54take out, they want to remove as many Betts as possible but they are

1:46:54 > 1:46:59worried they will only remove one. They need to get at least two out of

1:46:59 > 1:47:03there.

1:47:06 > 1:47:14This is lined up so bad, we have two platelet. -- play it.So you think

1:47:14 > 1:47:21it real hard this side. This will be a fun shot to watch,

1:47:21 > 1:47:23anyway. This is the sort of thing Marc

1:47:23 > 1:47:28Kennedy is thinking, good, come on. Even he said they don't quite know

1:47:28 > 1:47:35what is going to happen here.

1:47:40 > 1:47:47It is not quite hit and hope here for Marc Kennedy. But it is not a

1:47:47 > 1:47:52shot which he can have any sense of confidence about exactly what is

1:47:52 > 1:47:56going to happen. Three Swiss stones in a great position Marc Kennedy

1:47:56 > 1:48:01trying to move them around with plenty of weight coming down. Still

1:48:01 > 1:48:06three Swiss stones sitting in there. That is a horrible result.

1:48:06 > 1:48:14They are in a bit of bother here. We still have two Canadian stones. Look

1:48:14 > 1:48:18at Koe's face, he looks absolutely startled.

1:48:18 > 1:48:24They totally misjudged that shot. They needed to hit it a half stone

1:48:24 > 1:48:28away. They completely missed the stone they meant to hit and it went

1:48:28 > 1:48:37straight the back one. That adds interest here. They could put a big

1:48:37 > 1:48:41score on the board. They also just need not to get ahead

1:48:41 > 1:48:45of themselves either. They have been presented with a great opportunity.

1:48:45 > 1:48:56But don't get too greedy. Three stones left now.

1:49:01 > 1:49:11Just looking for a little hit, as we look down the ice away from us, can

1:49:11 > 1:49:21Koe and Marc Kennedy... They are going for a take out and

1:49:21 > 1:49:26just roll over in front of the other reds.

1:49:26 > 1:49:32So, you are saying if it is behind the yellow, great, even a bit

1:49:32 > 1:49:39further over it is not such a problem. He has a chance.Lovely.

1:49:39 > 1:49:54Very good indeed.I think he's going to try and move these threads.

1:49:54 > 1:50:02They won't all go because the first one... It runs straight onto the red

1:50:02 > 1:50:09just on the top of the four foot. Maybe he thinks he can just catch it

1:50:09 > 1:50:15enough to spin that one out as well. The chances are they could get rid

1:50:15 > 1:50:22of three here. There is Jennifer Jones in the shot, here supporting

1:50:22 > 1:50:27Brent Laing, her husband. Watch the backswing on this one.

1:50:27 > 1:50:29This one will be motoring a little bit.

1:50:34 > 1:50:38We didn't even get to see it. We got a good view in front of us, sorry

1:50:38 > 1:50:45about that.

1:50:45 > 1:50:52A great shot by Kevin Koe. That is absolutely well done.

1:50:52 > 1:50:57He was asked to produce something special, he has managed to do it. He

1:50:57 > 1:51:03did it in the last end macro as well. Switzerland keeping the

1:51:03 > 1:51:07pressure on. -- in the last end. Working that

1:51:07 > 1:51:13brush, gets that one out as well. Now, then, that is what we haven't

1:51:13 > 1:51:19seen for a while.

1:51:27 > 1:51:39So, two stones to go. The calm and collected Schwarz taking it in.

1:51:39 > 1:51:46Benoit Schwarz.

1:51:46 > 1:51:50The Swiss fans trying to respond as well. They have plenty to cheer

1:51:50 > 1:51:55about as well.

1:51:59 > 1:52:03about as well. I had that red -- If that red had been tucked in a little

1:52:03 > 1:52:08more, that shot would have been available. We are talking about an

1:52:08 > 1:52:12inch further over. A little bit unlucky for Switzerland.

1:52:12 > 1:52:17Still a chance to put multiple points on the board here.

1:52:17 > 1:52:25He has been drawing well so far, Benoit.

1:52:25 > 1:52:27A bit of a gap to come through there.

1:52:27 > 1:52:36Has he done it? Another nice stone.

1:52:43 > 1:52:49He is already having a look to see if he can get both of these, a

1:52:49 > 1:52:52little smile from Peter De Cruz. They are lined up at the back. You

1:52:52 > 1:53:02can see the outside bed -- red. He is going to have a look.

1:53:04 > 1:53:10It looks like it could be a blank and hear the weight it is going. You

1:53:10 > 1:53:14would expect Kevin Koe might take the double and Benoit could have an

1:53:14 > 1:53:20easy double. That would blank the end.

1:53:20 > 1:53:27He might also catch this red a little. That is what they are

1:53:27 > 1:53:33looking at to see how the angles will work. So they can see enough of

1:53:33 > 1:53:38it to catch the angle. But he could catch this a little thin, missed it

1:53:38 > 1:53:45completely. -- and miss it completely. He has played one

1:53:45 > 1:53:51brilliant shot, Kevin Koe now with an attempt to take both of these two

1:53:51 > 1:54:06remaining Swiss stones. Missed. After all of that, a chance for

1:54:06 > 1:54:10Switzerland to draw in for the two. A couple of options which way he

1:54:10 > 1:54:19will go. Very close indeed. It was.

1:54:19 > 1:54:22Very close indeed. It was. In some respects, if they lose two here,

1:54:22 > 1:54:26they might see that as a result given away things could have been a

1:54:26 > 1:54:32couple stones ago. But he still had to make this.

1:54:32 > 1:54:37Yes coming he has just played it, not a big gap they are trying to

1:54:37 > 1:54:43come through. -- yes, he has just played it.

1:54:43 > 1:54:50It needs to be pretty much the same shot. He can't afford to come into

1:54:50 > 1:54:58far or catch the guard on the way through.

1:55:05 > 1:55:10It is looking good at the moment, just need to get past the guard.

1:55:10 > 1:55:13This is false was lured to take their two, they have played an

1:55:13 > 1:55:18excellent first half of this bronze medal match, they find themselves

1:55:18 > 1:55:25with a two shot lead over Canada after 5p. Switzerland lead 4-2.

1:55:25 > 1:55:31EILIDH: Swizzle and with the slight advantage at the midway point, this

1:55:31 > 1:55:35match determines who wins a bronze medal and who will go home with

1:55:35 > 1:55:40nothing. -- Switzerland.

1:55:40 > 1:55:44Good morning, I hope you having a nice morning and this is what missed

1:55:44 > 1:55:54on day 14 so far. 15-year-old Alina Zagitova one

1:55:54 > 1:56:01Russia's first gold of the Winter Olympics in the women's figure

1:56:01 > 1:56:05skating. Kaetlyn Osmond won bronze.

1:56:05 > 1:56:18And a third consecutive victory for Canada here.

1:56:21 > 1:56:25Emily Sarsfield has been on a journey to even get to these Games

1:56:25 > 1:56:32after injury. Her journey to date ended at the quarterfinal stage.

1:56:32 > 1:56:37Knockout time in the women's curling today. Eve Muirhead and her team

1:56:37 > 1:56:43were left unstated in Sochi after defeat to Canada meant they could

1:56:43 > 1:56:48only play for bronze. They managed that but this time in Pyeongchang

1:56:48 > 1:56:55they have a much shinier meddle in their grasp.

1:57:00 > 1:57:09-- medal. We we went into Sochi as current World Championships. You are

1:57:09 > 1:57:16always going to add some pressure. There were expectations but it is

1:57:16 > 1:57:19properly more we put on ourselves because we knew we had beaten

1:57:19 > 1:57:25everyone there. It was who would be better that week.

1:57:25 > 1:57:29COMMENTATOR: They have fought so hard. This, potentially her last

1:57:29 > 1:57:36stone of this match. It has a chance. That is a nice shot from Eve

1:57:36 > 1:57:39Muirhead. The pressure made us know we could

1:57:39 > 1:57:43perform at that high level. It made us know we were the best team in the

1:57:43 > 1:57:49world and we were capable of hitting the podium.

1:57:49 > 1:57:54COMMENTATOR: This is to close out the match against Great Britain.

1:57:54 > 1:58:01They are having to work it hard. Is it going to get there, I think it

1:58:01 > 1:58:03is. Canada have won it. When we lost

1:58:03 > 1:58:09that semifinal, it was probably the most devastating defeat of my

1:58:09 > 1:58:14career, we had worked so hard. I knew my gold medal dream was over.

1:58:14 > 1:58:18That definitely was the hardest loss and at the time we thought it was a

1:58:18 > 1:58:25quick turnover but that is what helped us in the end.

1:58:25 > 1:58:27COMMENTATOR: They are the world champions and now they could be the

1:58:27 > 1:58:32Olympic bronze medallist if this stone is right from Eve Muirhead. It

1:58:32 > 1:58:39is going to get there. The brushes go in the air and they have one the

1:58:39 > 1:58:42bronze medal. To come home with the medal was

1:58:42 > 1:58:45outstanding and I am still really pleased. Now I have got a taste of

1:58:45 > 1:58:52that Olympic paid -- podium and I want to go up.

1:58:52 > 1:58:56We have unfinished business, getting the bronze medal was amazing but you

1:58:56 > 1:59:02always want to do better. If we had to break it down into each game,

1:59:02 > 1:59:08then once we get to the play-offs, it is a brand-new competition.

1:59:08 > 1:59:12We are feeling in a good place at the moment. We have been working

1:59:12 > 1:59:17really hard, something I feel I have to say to people about curling. It

1:59:17 > 1:59:21is much harder than it looks. We wouldn't have to train so much to be

1:59:21 > 1:59:26at the top of the game if it wasn't. We had a great win at the European

1:59:26 > 1:59:30Championships. COMMENTATOR:, Scotland, Gold

1:59:30 > 1:59:36medallists in Switzerland. The gold medal at the Olympics is

1:59:36 > 1:59:41the only one I am missing in my collection so for me it would mean a

1:59:41 > 1:59:46lot of very hard work has paid off. I have put in a tonne of work to get

1:59:46 > 1:59:50to the position I am in. It is dad on top of the podium would be

1:59:50 > 2:00:00something extra special -- to stand on top of the podium.

2:00:00 > 2:00:0411:05am, the time for the women to get their semifinal underweight

2:00:04 > 2:00:11against Sweden, a rematch of the European final. GB won that. A win

2:00:11 > 2:00:15against Sweden today would give them a chance to go for gold in

2:00:15 > 2:00:19Pyeongchang. Right now it is about the men's bronze that'll match,

2:00:19 > 2:00:25Switzerland with a slender lead over Canada, Canada in danger of leaving

2:00:25 > 2:00:29empty-handed which would be a real surprise. Let us get back to our

2:00:29 > 2:00:30commentators.

2:00:33 > 2:00:42STEVE CRAM: Thank you very much, Eilidh. The first stone of the sixth

2:00:42 > 2:00:45end played by Valentin Tanner. It would be a real shock if neither the

2:00:45 > 2:00:50men's nor the women's won a medal. The men still have a chance of the

2:00:50 > 2:00:53bronze medal here. Let's not forget, though, Canada did win the gold in

2:00:53 > 2:00:58the mixed doubles. A new event which was very successful. It seems ages

2:00:58 > 2:01:08ago now! Canada won the gold and, of course, Switzerland won the silver,

2:01:08 > 2:01:12and Norway will now be presented with the bronze medal, I'm told so

2:01:12 > 2:01:16some extra doubles team are on their way back to Pyeongchang to receive

2:01:16 > 2:01:21their bronze medal after the Discworld occasion of the OAR team.

2:01:21 > 2:01:25So, first half, very much went to Switzerland, not only on the

2:01:25 > 2:01:29scoreboard but in terms of general play. -- after the disqualification

2:01:29 > 2:01:37of the OAR team. It could have been even worse for Canada. They managed

2:01:37 > 2:01:40to get their two in the fourth end as well, so there were some

2:01:40 > 2:01:48positives for them. And they will want to come out on that very second

2:01:48 > 2:01:51half-year, they will have to, if they are to beat this very good

2:01:51 > 2:02:04Swiss team. -- second-half here. Logan

2:02:04 > 2:02:17LOGAN GRAY: The third and fourth stones for Switzerland, Claudio

2:02:18 > 2:02:23stones for Switzerland, Claudio Patz Benoit, they're doing a bit of a

2:02:23 > 2:02:30number on the Canadians.

2:02:30 > 2:02:31number on the Canadians. Valentin Tanner just slipped a little bit too

2:02:31 > 2:02:39far with his draw, so Canada will just try and rest against it now.

2:02:39 > 2:02:42Ben Hebert has played well, nothing wrong with his performance so far

2:02:42 > 2:02:49today. And if Canada just get that little bit of pressure that they're

2:02:49 > 2:02:55known for, try and control the ends a little bit, this is very much

2:02:55 > 2:02:58still winnable for them. So, they have the hammer here at, and again,

2:02:58 > 2:03:02if you've been watching enough of the curling, you will know that

2:03:02 > 2:03:06having the hammer in the even ends in the second half of a match is

2:03:06 > 2:03:10always of a benefit but it does not always mean that it will work out

2:03:10 > 2:03:23that way because of either blanked ends, steals etc.

2:03:23 > 2:03:26ends, steals etc. The Swiss skip, very quiet in the way he goes about

2:03:26 > 2:03:39things. Now, trying to follow in, just giving the is a little bit of a

2:03:39 > 2:03:44Russell. There they go.Yeah, good shot there. They could have try to

2:03:44 > 2:03:50complicated things a bit but they felt they could get more control and

2:03:50 > 2:03:58leave their stone in a better position that way. What's he going

2:03:58 > 2:04:08to do?Tap it on the news, going to do nothing! -- tap it on the nose.

2:04:08 > 2:04:17OK, well, you want to be... LOGAN GRAY: I think it's the first

2:04:17 > 2:04:19time I've seen Kevin Koe with his jacket off this week.

2:04:19 > 2:04:23STEVE CRAM: That's true, actually. He obviously doesn't sweep, so he

2:04:23 > 2:04:31must be feeling the heat a little! So, Brent Laing will want to perform

2:04:31 > 2:04:39better, help his team out a bit more.

2:04:39 > 2:04:45Always mark! They're just choosing to ignore all the stones in the

2:04:45 > 2:04:51centre of play and go around the corner guard. Could be a useful one

2:04:51 > 2:05:01later on.Yeah, nicely played by Brent Laing.

2:05:10 > 2:05:19And Switzerland, aware of the danger.

2:05:19 > 2:05:22danger.Yeah, they're sticking to their game plan and keeping it

2:05:22 > 2:05:28tight, not risking losing a big end at any point. No, as you say, just

2:05:28 > 2:05:31not giving easy opportunities to Canada. We have seen Kevin Koe

2:05:31 > 2:05:35coming up with big shots to rescue the situation. But you can see what

2:05:35 > 2:05:38Switzerland are trying to do.

2:05:43 > 2:05:46Quite a few people still taking their seats after the half-time

2:05:46 > 2:05:51break. We're expecting a full house later on for that Great Britain

2:05:51 > 2:05:56women's semifinal match, not that most of them will become in to see

2:05:56 > 2:05:59Great Britain versus Sweden - most of them will be here to see Korea

2:05:59 > 2:06:04versus Japan. The Korean women have been in brilliant form, those two

2:06:04 > 2:06:09matches at 11am.

2:06:13 > 2:06:18matches at 11am. Huge interest in this successful career in women's

2:06:18 > 2:06:23team. They're all getting very excited about their prospects, but

2:06:23 > 2:06:28it's two tough semifinals. Rate Britain and Sweden, perhaps no

2:06:28 > 2:06:32supplies those two teams are in a semifinal. But a lot of people very

2:06:32 > 2:06:35surprised to see Korea versus Japan in the other one. That's nicely

2:06:35 > 2:06:44done.

2:06:44 > 2:06:52done. Just having a little look now, Peter de Cruz. And Claudio Patz just

2:06:52 > 2:06:56having a look. His first instinct was to try and play the double on

2:06:56 > 2:07:05these two outside yellows. He might be

2:07:05 > 2:07:14be thinking maybe a hit and roll.

2:07:14 > 2:07:27Benoit Schwarz coming up and having a look behind these two.

2:07:32 > 2:07:39SWISS PLAYERS SPEAK FRENCH

2:07:39 > 2:07:43So, I think back to what he was originally asking - hit that outside

2:07:43 > 2:08:01yellow and roll onto the other one. I would say by the amount of ice

2:08:01 > 2:08:11they're taking here, they're not going for double takeout.

2:08:12 > 2:08:14going for double takeout. He's played very well so far, the third

2:08:14 > 2:08:23for Switzerland. That's another nice shot there. I think he wanted to sit

2:08:23 > 2:08:27on top of that yellow, that would have been really precise.I think

2:08:27 > 2:08:33that's good enough there, Steve, they can't make a double takeout on

2:08:33 > 2:08:36it at the moment. And when you saw what happened in that previous end,

2:08:36 > 2:08:42and the one before as well, it's the takeouts which Canada are very

2:08:42 > 2:08:49comfortable playing. The more they can limit those opportunities, the

2:08:49 > 2:08:59better it will be for Switzerland.

2:08:59 > 2:09:04PLAYER: Throw it hard and just hit it right on the nose...

2:09:04 > 2:09:10STEVE CRAM: Finally enough, Marc is not thinking about anything else

2:09:10 > 2:09:17but, as he said, throw it hard and hit it on the nose!

2:09:19 > 2:09:22hit it on the nose! He thinks if he hits it on the nose I think he

2:09:22 > 2:09:28thinks he can pick out that red on the top of the 4ft. Oh, he's missed.

2:09:28 > 2:09:32Well, he cleans that one out, but he really thought if he caught it on

2:09:32 > 2:09:42the nose, it would just that red sitting just on top of the button.

2:09:42 > 2:09:49So, Switzerland still with two tucked in, Canada with the hammer.

2:09:55 > 2:10:02Some scratching of heads, let's put it that way, on both sides. But for

2:10:02 > 2:10:06Canada, yet against now facing a tricky situation here in the sixth.

2:10:06 > 2:10:09Switzerland are going to try and make this as difficult as possible

2:10:09 > 2:10:13again.

2:10:16 > 2:10:23SWISS PLAYERS SPEAK FRENCH

2:10:24 > 2:10:31Is it too simple just to think about putting another guard out there?

2:10:31 > 2:10:37LOGAN GRAY: It is difficult for the Swiss again they don't want to let

2:10:37 > 2:10:43Canada come down to that yellow and it and put the two reds back on the

2:10:43 > 2:10:47tee line. But Canada have the option to tap their own yellow want that,

2:10:47 > 2:10:51so it's really difficult to cover both shots. They could play a corner

2:10:51 > 2:10:57freeze on that highest yellow stone just there. Or they could try and

2:10:57 > 2:11:04spin all the yellows by playing a big weight takeout. Boxlike they're

2:11:04 > 2:11:16going to go for the freeze option, though. -- looks like.

2:11:18 > 2:11:21So, Claudio Patz with a tricky little shot here, placement so

2:11:21 > 2:11:25important, but he's managed to do it on so many occasions already in this

2:11:25 > 2:11:35match. Shooting 95%, including takeouts and draws.

2:11:35 > 2:11:38takeouts and draws. Needs this one to turn a bit, though. It's a little

2:11:38 > 2:11:44high...

2:11:44 > 2:11:49high... He's done half a job, if you like.Yeah, it covers the easier of

2:11:49 > 2:11:53the two options that Canada had.

2:12:01 > 2:12:11Dead nose would be good but you've got to her on the side of...

2:12:11 > 2:12:13got to her on the side of...Once again, then, Marc is going to try

2:12:13 > 2:12:22and move some rocks around here. Catch that red and drive it back in.

2:12:22 > 2:12:29He wants to beehive, as he said, not on the other side of the nose. -- he

2:12:29 > 2:12:36wants to be high. At going to be on the nose, I think. Yep. Well, it

2:12:36 > 2:12:39improves the situation, but not getting both of the reds, but it is

2:12:39 > 2:12:45certainly looking a lot better for Canada. Switzerland have still got a

2:12:45 > 2:12:50red in there, though. And it's counting. Can he move those yellows?

2:12:50 > 2:12:54They would have liked to have touched that back in red and freed

2:12:54 > 2:12:58it up. The problem is that it is frozen on the yellow, and it's going

2:12:58 > 2:13:00to be really difficult for the Canadians to get that one out of

2:13:00 > 2:13:06there.

2:13:06 > 2:13:13there. Switzerland just needing to tread carefully, though, a few

2:13:13 > 2:13:18yellow Canadian stones starting to build up.

2:13:29 > 2:13:33What I love about Benoit Schwarz is, it doesn't matter what the shot is,

2:13:33 > 2:13:37he's obviously prepared to do anything. He never goes, I'm not

2:13:37 > 2:13:46sure about that. Just make my mind up, he's very clear.

2:13:46 > 2:13:49up, he's very clear.I think this Swiss team, they all know what their

2:13:49 > 2:13:52strengths are and they all trust each other to do their own role.

2:13:52 > 2:13:56Peter de Cruz is the guy who calls the game and the others are out

2:13:56 > 2:13:59there to sweep and make the shots and get the job done.

2:14:05 > 2:14:14Don't sweep...

2:14:15 > 2:14:20Well, they guided on the left side of the centreline the other time -

2:14:20 > 2:14:24this time is now trying to come the other side, just to stop back raise

2:14:24 > 2:14:35on the two yellow stones. Nicely done. -- just to stop that raise.

2:14:35 > 2:14:38Yeah, not getting ahead of themselves, they lead by two, Canada

2:14:38 > 2:14:44with the hammer again. Train to work a situation where they can get those

2:14:44 > 2:14:50two back again. They've got three in there, but that one red is counting.

2:14:50 > 2:14:57And it's protecting that one behind. Not so easy to get in there. So, all

2:14:57 > 2:15:03that's working for Canada at the minute is, if you... Actually even

2:15:03 > 2:15:10on their takeouts, only 72% accuracy, but they're not matching

2:15:10 > 2:15:17Switzerland on draws, either. They're going to try and make a

2:15:17 > 2:15:23freeze on the red stone now. This is mostly a setup shot, I think. Trying

2:15:23 > 2:15:32to set up the last for a big end. Important to get in lying shot

2:15:32 > 2:15:37position.

2:15:38 > 2:15:46A little positivity for this stone from the skip.

2:15:46 > 2:15:53That looks good at the moment, very good. There could well be some

2:15:53 > 2:15:57cheering from the Canadian contingent. Kevin Koe has played a

2:15:57 > 2:16:05storm of a shot. Coming in for shot, and a chance to move that read next

2:16:05 > 2:16:14time around. We still have one more Swiss red to come. So, Benoit

2:16:14 > 2:16:19Schwartz, Peter De Cruz, under pressure. Four Canadian stones, one

2:16:19 > 2:16:28more to come from the skip.

2:16:37 > 2:16:43This is starting to look scary for Switzerland, four yellows in the

2:16:43 > 2:16:49house. Desperately needing to get another one in there. Kevin Koe did

2:16:49 > 2:16:53pass the guard quite comfortably by a few inches, maybe he can sneak

2:16:53 > 2:17:01inside it.This one would have to come right on top of that yellow,

2:17:01 > 2:17:14Carl Wright on to the button almost. -- And curl right onto the button.

2:17:14 > 2:17:24No sweeping. As I said, I thought he was doing this to protect this one,

2:17:24 > 2:17:30giving away the one.

2:17:31 > 2:17:37He was looking at the angle of the one that is the yellow that didn't

2:17:37 > 2:17:44go straight back, sitting on top of the red, but I am not sure he has

2:17:44 > 2:17:48covered it. I think he is going to run the red

2:17:48 > 2:17:51back, potentially. Will it get past the other yellow? I

2:17:51 > 2:18:02think this yellow in between the two reds. That could be the safer shot,

2:18:02 > 2:18:05at least you're not running Swiss stone.

2:18:15 > 2:18:19Kevin Koe has played a couple of great shots here, they have the

2:18:19 > 2:18:26chance, you see the yellow there, or is he going for the red? I think it

2:18:26 > 2:18:30is the yellow features. He is hoping to run that yellow back, catch the

2:18:30 > 2:18:38yellow just sitting or frozen on the corner, push the red out and with a

2:18:38 > 2:18:44bit of luck he might end up with three or four here. So, Kevin Koe

2:18:44 > 2:18:48needs to miss both reds, it is a big enough gap. He needs to catch this

2:18:48 > 2:19:00pretty much on the nose. He caught his own stone. It is one there. We

2:19:00 > 2:19:05knew it was one for Canada. That is an opportunity missed. Given a

2:19:05 > 2:19:12couple of the stones he has given before, I think that was a makeable

2:19:12 > 2:19:16shot for Kevin Koe. What an opportunity which goes begging. He

2:19:16 > 2:19:22could've picked up three or four depending on how they would have

2:19:22 > 2:19:27spun out. However, only the one. A smart move

2:19:27 > 2:19:33by Doug Cruze and Schwarz, didn't quite get the red in the right

2:19:33 > 2:19:39place. It narrowed the gap just enough.

2:19:44 > 2:19:56-- a smart move by De Cruz.Peter De Cruz just taking a tumble on the

2:19:56 > 2:20:07ice.Right in front of us, hopefully he is K.I think the screen just

2:20:07 > 2:20:14came off his stopwatch. It might have mashed his microphone, is that

2:20:14 > 2:20:23the battery pack?

2:20:23 > 2:20:25the battery pack? Perfectly poised, Switzerland still with the

2:20:25 > 2:20:33advantage. And Canada have only managed to score in 22 of those

2:20:33 > 2:20:41first six ends. A big chance went begging -- in two of those first six

2:20:41 > 2:20:48ends. It equates to three shots more for

2:20:48 > 2:20:55Canada. Switzerland happy to have the last one back and with a 1-shot

2:20:55 > 2:21:02lead. Again, if you are just coming to the

2:21:02 > 2:21:05curling this morning, the British women playing in the semifinal

2:21:05 > 2:21:14against Sweden at 11am. This, the bronze medal match between

2:21:14 > 2:21:17Switzerland and Canada. Canada have never been in this situation, they

2:21:17 > 2:21:25have always been in the final. Peter De Cruz slipping quickly his foot.

2:21:25 > 2:21:27They won't thank the director of that one.

2:21:27 > 2:21:35It was a heavy fall. It was the radio microphone, they have picked

2:21:35 > 2:21:39up the clip. He seems all right.

2:21:44 > 2:21:52He had a couple of false. And Matt Hamilton took a tumble in the mixed

2:21:52 > 2:22:00doubles. Tripped over his moustache!

2:22:04 > 2:22:07All to play for, first learned putting themselves in an excellent

2:22:07 > 2:22:16position here. They want to make a good start to this end --

2:22:16 > 2:22:21Switzerland that in themselves in an excellent position.

2:22:21 > 2:22:27Canada started the game with the hammer by virtue of their higher

2:22:27 > 2:22:31ranking position in the round robin. The last time, the only other time

2:22:31 > 2:22:37they had the hammer, they scored two. They will be thinking, a repeat

2:22:37 > 2:22:38of that, please.

2:22:45 > 2:22:49That is the General strategy, to force the other team to score just

2:22:49 > 2:22:57one will stop and to take two yourself. -- to score just one.

2:22:57 > 2:23:04This is still all to play for, for Canada. Let us say they give away

2:23:04 > 2:23:11one, 511 three, you picked up two in the eighth, then you are tied. We

2:23:11 > 2:23:16have seen so much happened in the last couple of Evans, that game

2:23:16 > 2:23:21yesterday with USA looked as if it was going Canada's way with the

2:23:21 > 2:23:24hammer. A good set up again by Valentin

2:23:24 > 2:23:32Tanner.

2:23:35 > 2:23:42Kevin Koe isn't given Brent Laing the chance to play some easy shots.

2:23:42 > 2:23:49He has called a very tough draw here. -- Kevin Koe isn't giving

2:23:49 > 2:23:53Brent Laing.

2:24:00 > 2:24:07Starting to pull in in the last few feet, and catches the red on the way

2:24:07 > 2:24:12through. Doesn't manage to get by, it has been that story for Canada so

2:24:12 > 2:24:19far. Just not quite making the shots when they need to.

2:24:19 > 2:24:25Thomas Bach is back in, he went for a cup of tea, a cup of coffee. I'm

2:24:25 > 2:24:32sure, enjoying this enthralling bronze medal match. And Canada

2:24:32 > 2:24:36desperately trying to go home with something from the two team

2:24:36 > 2:24:43connotations. The full teams, men and women. Switzerland already with

2:24:43 > 2:24:50a silver medal in the mixed doubles. He needs to get past the top red

2:24:50 > 2:24:58there. Actually, he has tapped the two reds, he did catch the yellow

2:24:58 > 2:25:05but not the shot he wanted. A little mistake. Even when Switzerland have

2:25:05 > 2:25:11made a mistake, both making small mistakes, they seem to have been

2:25:11 > 2:25:17less costly. That was a poor shot by Peter De

2:25:17 > 2:25:21Cruz, he could have hit and rolled out leaving them in a strong

2:25:21 > 2:25:30position. I hope that tumble hasn't shaken him up.

2:25:30 > 2:25:34I was going to say, we won't hear what he said but he doesn't say much

2:25:34 > 2:25:42anyway. His make may still be working -- his microphone may still

2:25:42 > 2:25:47be working. Not quite.

2:25:47 > 2:25:53A good effort. A good shot by Brent Laing. No double take out available

2:25:53 > 2:25:55to Switzerland.

2:26:00 > 2:26:06So, Switzerland decide it is about time to get rid of a couple of these

2:26:06 > 2:26:12guards, at least one, maybe even both.

2:26:14 > 2:26:26Claudio Paetz has been very good, we were remarking how well the third

2:26:26 > 2:26:28and fourth players are playing. Peter De Cruz wants to hopefully

2:26:28 > 2:26:33give them something to work with here. Just going to take this guard

2:26:33 > 2:26:38out.

2:26:38 > 2:26:44out. Close again. Nearly.

2:26:45 > 2:26:52Nearly. So, two shots from Peter De Cruz that didn't quite work out. He

2:26:52 > 2:26:59just wanted to clip that yellow.

2:27:12 > 2:27:21Marc Kennedy not playing the hit here.

2:27:23 > 2:27:28He has only played two draws so far. His other ten shots have been take

2:27:28 > 2:27:34outs.

2:27:38 > 2:27:45They are looking for a similar shot just on the higher red this time.

2:27:45 > 2:27:51They called this early, it was frozen, just tap it to the side.

2:27:51 > 2:27:56That is a really nice shot by Marc Kennedy. A very capable drawer

2:27:56 > 2:28:05player. Although we do see a lot of takeouts from him.

2:28:06 > 2:28:19He just creates a nice pocket making the stone extremely hard to remove.

2:28:25 > 2:28:32Claudio Paetz, he is going to try and remove this yellow will stop

2:28:32 > 2:28:40there is too much damage ensuing. They are sitting with a shot there.

2:28:40 > 2:28:49Kevin Koe very happy with Marc Kennedy with the last shot.

2:28:51 > 2:28:53Kennedy with the last shot. Saying we will have a guard or fairly

2:28:53 > 2:28:59close.

2:29:14 > 2:29:19We are just halfway.

2:29:20 > 2:29:27This is an end where Switzerland may be through Peter De Cruz have been a

2:29:27 > 2:29:30little off with their shots. Canada are starting to find their range

2:29:30 > 2:29:35here. That is a little long. A couple of feet further up would have

2:29:35 > 2:29:40been better.

2:29:45 > 2:29:51You are right, the way this Swiss team works, the other three let

2:29:51 > 2:29:56Peter De Cruz make his mind up. Claudio Paetz is coming down to hear

2:29:56 > 2:30:06what the skip as to say.

2:30:06 > 2:30:11what the skip as to say.Sometimes it is good for them to come down the

2:30:11 > 2:30:15ice and look at the situation so they know how much exactly they are

2:30:15 > 2:30:21trying to move the stones.

2:30:27 > 2:30:36I think they're going to go frustrate peel on this occasion. --

2:30:36 > 2:30:42for a straight peel. Well, as the Canadians rightly pointed out, it's

2:30:42 > 2:30:50very difficult for the Swiss to play the run back into there, because

2:30:50 > 2:30:53they're actually only going to be removing the red stones that are in

2:30:53 > 2:31:00there, so they really need to wait for Canada to make the move.

2:31:07 > 2:31:14Probably does this, I guess, I don't know!

2:31:14 > 2:31:17STEVE CRAM: That's exactly what you're doing, you're trying to

2:31:17 > 2:31:24second-guess what the opposition will do! Talking out loud, putting

2:31:24 > 2:31:29the thoughts into the mind of the opposing skip perhaps. It is

2:31:29 > 2:31:34impossible to get to the nose, by the way. You're just hitting... No,

2:31:34 > 2:31:39you're not. You're trying to get as close to the nose as you can. Time

2:31:39 > 2:31:50out to!Time out to.

2:31:50 > 2:31:53out to!Time out to. So, Canada know that the match is finely poised,

2:31:53 > 2:31:57giving two up here would give Switzerland that three shot lead

2:31:57 > 2:32:04with three ends to go, so they want to try and limit them to a one or

2:32:04 > 2:32:19even steal, if they can. They're just having a look at how these lie.

2:32:19 > 2:32:26Scott Pfeifer acting as AlterNet and coach.

2:32:34 > 2:32:43-- alternate and coach. What is the thinking?Just bump it or take it

2:32:43 > 2:32:51all the way through. One is not the end of the world...No, it's not

2:32:51 > 2:32:59going to move.If I could sit right there...?

2:32:59 > 2:33:02there...?I think your call is the best call, Marc Kennedy, we've just

2:33:02 > 2:33:08got to play...So, here's the Christian, can we play this...?

2:33:08 > 2:33:15Here's Marc Kennedy coming in with a firm shot! Like, let's move some

2:33:15 > 2:33:21stuff around! Knows a prize, Marc Kennedy's solution to anything is,

2:33:21 > 2:33:28let's move things around! -- no surprise.

2:33:30 > 2:33:36surprise.What does he do?I'm not even sure that... Who might just

2:33:36 > 2:33:44play...If he just tapped that yellow...Are we second?Today

2:33:44 > 2:33:48second right now, yep.You play this, you're still going to be

2:33:48 > 2:34:06short, I think.And then we get to lie two or three.Yep.

2:34:06 > 2:34:10LOGAN GRAY: A very long discussion taking place here, I think they're

2:34:10 > 2:34:19looking at getting rid of the short stone.Well, they've got to make

2:34:19 > 2:34:24their minds up now, time is up at a now, they're into using up time on

2:34:24 > 2:34:30their shot clockof time left.

2:34:37 > 2:34:46PLAYER: We've just got to make sure we kill this one, kill the back one.

2:34:46 > 2:34:50Well, you can see the plan there to hit that red and push the other one

2:34:50 > 2:35:00out, the top one. There is Thomas Bach, who, who's been here pretty

2:35:00 > 2:35:05much since the first end, did leave for a short while.Yeah, sitting

2:35:05 > 2:35:07alongside the world curling federation president Kate Caithness

2:35:07 > 2:35:15as well. So, after all of that discussion, Kevin Koe trying to come

2:35:15 > 2:35:22down and just catch this red.

2:35:22 > 2:35:25down and just catch this red. Having to sweep it hard here, they just

2:35:25 > 2:35:29want to catch it around a third. No, it's going to hit that yellow.

2:35:29 > 2:35:37That's not a good shot from Kevin Koe. After all of that discussion,

2:35:37 > 2:35:40well, how many times have we said that, you can pick the shot but

2:35:40 > 2:35:46you've got to play it?It happens a lot as well, you spend a lot of time

2:35:46 > 2:35:51discussing it, you call a time-out, the coach comes out, you draw up the

2:35:51 > 2:35:58perfect place - and it doesn't get made. It happens ALL the time. They

2:35:58 > 2:36:04now lie two. That's not a smile. When they show that in the newspaper

2:36:04 > 2:36:10tomorrow, a grimace, which says, what have I done?It still isn't a

2:36:10 > 2:36:20straightforward situation for the Swiss.

2:36:24 > 2:36:26I think the big thing here for Switzerland, obviously, there's a

2:36:26 > 2:36:33couple of yellows in there. They certainly can get rid of one here

2:36:33 > 2:36:38and I think he thinks, OK, we'll move our reds, but we're going to

2:36:38 > 2:36:43keep them in close oximetry. And I think he's trying to make sure he

2:36:43 > 2:36:48doesn't give Kevin Koe a chance to take more than one out.

2:37:04 > 2:37:12So, Benoit Schwarz... He's got eight HF spin back!Not quite, I don't

2:37:12 > 2:37:20think. That's a bit of a let-off the Canada, that that one did not stay

2:37:20 > 2:37:24on the wing.Big let off. He just wanted to hit and stay in there.

2:37:24 > 2:37:32Didn't catch that in the way he wanted to. They can obviously blank

2:37:32 > 2:37:37this end, Switzerland, and that would give them the hammer in the

2:37:37 > 2:37:42eighth and the tenth. Remember they said they wouldn't mind giving up

2:37:42 > 2:37:47one a little while ago.Yeah, it is easy to remove them both here, the

2:37:47 > 2:37:52trick to making this a great shot is to keep throwing a stone in the

2:37:52 > 2:37:56house and forced Switzerland to score one and relinquish that last

2:37:56 > 2:38:01stone advantage for the eighth end. Yeah, Canada would have two sitting

2:38:01 > 2:38:06in there.

2:38:12 > 2:38:17Got to get rid of both of these first... He hasn't.Oh, it's going

2:38:17 > 2:38:24to be a draw for two here!

2:38:24 > 2:38:26to be a draw for two here!Well, this end is swinging one way and

2:38:26 > 2:38:32then the other and back again. Kevin Koe, both of his shots have been

2:38:32 > 2:38:40errant. The first one catching his own stone, and that one there, not

2:38:40 > 2:38:45played right at all. Not sure quite what's going wrong with Kevin Koe,

2:38:45 > 2:38:53but saw yesterday against the USA... So, Anwar Schwartz with a chance to

2:38:53 > 2:39:01come in and sit two here. I think they may have thought that

2:39:09 > 2:39:14opportunity just come in and sit on his own red and that will be fine.

2:39:14 > 2:39:18Nicely done by Benoit Schwarz. I love the way he just walks down the

2:39:18 > 2:39:23other end, no fuss, no discussion, play your stone. Absolutely perfect.

2:39:23 > 2:39:28No-frills at all from this Swiss number four. The skip has done a

2:39:28 > 2:39:33good job there of guiding his team through that seventh end, they pick

2:39:33 > 2:39:38up their two and they lead Canada 6-3 with just three ends left to

2:39:38 > 2:39:46pay.Well, I don't call him baby Federer for nothing! His performance

2:39:46 > 2:39:53levels have been outstanding. And he is always a great roll model out on

2:39:53 > 2:39:57the ice for any young curlers coming through in Switzerland - or anywhere

2:39:57 > 2:40:04else in the world.Well, it's gone very quiet in the Canadian camp.

2:40:04 > 2:40:12Both on the ice and in the stands as one.

2:40:12 > 2:40:16one. Kevin Koe, who was set up a better by his team there. Marc

2:40:16 > 2:40:20Kennedy had played a couple of good shots. And sadly the Kevin Koe, not

2:40:20 > 2:40:28able to reciprocate, in the sense of just keeping that pressure on. And

2:40:28 > 2:40:31even the first shot from Benoit Schwarz looked as though it had let

2:40:31 > 2:40:41them off the hook. Got the chance again, and he took it. Well, here we

2:40:41 > 2:40:47go, then. Three ends left, Canada have the hammer in the eighth and

2:40:47 > 2:40:54the tenth. So, still plenty of chances left for them to score. If

2:40:54 > 2:41:01they were in a situation where they managed to limit Switzerland to one,

2:41:01 > 2:41:08get two in the final end, of course, then we would be tied up. But

2:41:08 > 2:41:15obviously you would be looking at an extra end. The hammer in that

2:41:15 > 2:41:19situation would switch to Switzerland. Easy for you to say!

2:41:19 > 2:41:28Not, obviously!

2:41:33 > 2:41:41STEVE CRAM: Valentin Tanner. He is meant to be a bit of a joker in the

2:41:41 > 2:41:48pack, he doesn't look it, does he? He's hardly said a word, but he's

2:41:48 > 2:41:52cleared very well, very nicely indeed. The two leads have... I

2:41:52 > 2:42:00can't remember either of them really missing. No big mistakes from the

2:42:00 > 2:42:05leads.

2:42:05 > 2:42:09leads.Canada, kind of backs against the wall here, Anita really throw

2:42:09 > 2:42:15everything at this eighth end to try and put a couple of points on the

2:42:15 > 2:42:23board. They don't want any more blank ends. So, they're going to

2:42:23 > 2:42:26throw two corner guards here, which is generally accepted as the most

2:42:26 > 2:42:34offensive start to an end that you can make.Well, they've also got to

2:42:34 > 2:42:37get some self-belief back. They've got to be the Canada that everyone

2:42:37 > 2:42:45expects them to be. There's Ben. Valentin Tanner has not had to play

2:42:45 > 2:42:51any takeouts at all. From the lead's perspective, slightly with the

2:42:51 > 2:42:58advantage. After four stones are played, then you can take the guards

2:42:58 > 2:43:02away.It has got to be one of the most frustrating things about being

2:43:02 > 2:43:06a lead, you can go out and play a perfect game, but if the three guys

2:43:06 > 2:43:09following you up are not doing their job, then it's going to be very

2:43:09 > 2:43:16difficult for you to win.

2:43:16 > 2:43:18difficult for you to win.Well, in that position there's only one

2:43:18 > 2:43:21winner in the stats at least, and I think that has been borne out by the

2:43:21 > 2:43:27play. I think it was only that last end where Peter de Cruz didn't quite

2:43:27 > 2:43:30get the accuracy he wanted, but it didn't matter in the end,

2:43:30 > 2:43:35Switzerland still got their two. Brent Laing struggled against the

2:43:35 > 2:43:40USA, and he's been struggling today as well a little.

2:43:47 > 2:43:50STEVE CRAM: So, Switzerland, they will continue with the tactic which

2:43:50 > 2:43:53we have spoken about from the beginning, just nicely controlling

2:43:53 > 2:43:59things and not letting too many stones get in play. Going to take

2:43:59 > 2:44:05this guard away.Yeah, it is an even easier call to make when you're

2:44:05 > 2:44:18three shots up, these peels, and it was when it was all tied up.

2:44:18 > 2:44:21was when it was all tied up. So, we're going to cor draw right around

2:44:21 > 2:44:25everything here from Canada, choosing to go into the house early.

2:44:25 > 2:44:33-- we're going to see a draw. They're in a situation where they

2:44:33 > 2:44:36have got to get something going, got to try something a little bit

2:44:36 > 2:44:45different. LOGAN GRAY: They're going into the

2:44:45 > 2:44:49house very early, I think you would see a lot of teams throwing a corner

2:44:49 > 2:44:52guard here before making their move. Still out there, it's going to have

2:44:52 > 2:45:00to come in... Back in the 8ft.

2:45:00 > 2:45:07SWISS PLAYERS SPEAK FRENCH

2:45:18 > 2:45:22I think they are going to build this off, they are not too worried about

2:45:22 > 2:45:27sticking around.

2:45:29 > 2:45:35sticking around. -- peel this off. They are fully aware any sense that

2:45:35 > 2:45:40Iran will be used by Canada to their best possible benefit.

2:45:40 > 2:45:46It is a real sense of covered in themselves. A smart move by Peter De

2:45:46 > 2:45:52Cruz thinking, OK, even if Canada got two, let us not give them an end

2:45:52 > 2:45:57where they can score big. One Independent Parliamentary Standards

2:45:57 > 2:46:01Authority or a blank end, even though the two, we would be 6-5,

2:46:01 > 2:46:10hammer in the ninth. Just calm.

2:46:10 > 2:46:16hammer in the ninth. Just calm. -- They can score big, one or two, or a

2:46:16 > 2:46:25blanked end. Make them work for it.

2:46:26 > 2:46:34Make them work for it.Marc Kennedy with his first stone.

2:46:51 > 2:46:56A blanked end would be something which Switzerland would be more than

2:46:56 > 2:47:02happy to comply with.

2:47:04 > 2:47:08happy to comply with. They will keep taking stones out here.

2:47:15 > 2:47:21A little wide with that one, he picks it up nicely. Those two Swiss

2:47:21 > 2:47:26stones in that, Claudio Paetz, you would think he was just walking down

2:47:26 > 2:47:33the shops for a pint of milk, wouldn't you! Shall I get full fat

2:47:33 > 2:47:42today or skimmed? He skins that one away.

2:47:43 > 2:47:52away. --He skims that one away. What are you thinking? Presumably in

2:47:52 > 2:47:57the back of your mind if something doesn't happen here for Canada,

2:47:57 > 2:48:02Kevin Koe will be known as the Canadian skip who didn't even win a

2:48:02 > 2:48:13medal. These three men that are with him, with so much experience, two

2:48:13 > 2:48:18previous gold medals with Kevin Martin. Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert,

2:48:18 > 2:48:25back in 2010, they know what it is like to win gold. Brent Laing used

2:48:25 > 2:48:31to play with Glenn Howard, world champion. But fighting for their

2:48:31 > 2:48:33chance to try and win a bronze medal here.

2:48:45 > 2:48:52You can see Benoit Schwartz will take that yellow away and he will

2:48:52 > 2:49:00roll it back in.

2:49:01 > 2:49:05Look at Kevin Koe and his stance, you won't win anything if you are

2:49:05 > 2:49:17shooting less than 60% -- and his stats.That is unbelievable.

2:49:18 > 2:49:21stats.That is unbelievable. It is very quiet in the stands, people

2:49:21 > 2:49:25enjoying this match but there has been nothing for the Canadians to

2:49:25 > 2:49:33shout about. If they had made that double, the Canadians would have had

2:49:33 > 2:49:40a hissy fit.Not the best shot from Benoit Schwartz. Wanting to roll

2:49:40 > 2:49:46across back into the house. It is the first sign really of any nerves

2:49:46 > 2:49:51from the Swiss. A long way from that.

2:49:57 > 2:50:04Canada still with a lot of work to do, to score two. Perhaps ignoring

2:50:04 > 2:50:06that red stone in the middle.

2:50:14 > 2:50:24Switzerland could be forced to play a takeout on this.

2:50:24 > 2:50:29Those in the two saying, the enough, get the two. This one is not over

2:50:29 > 2:50:41yet. Kevin Koe needs to play a nice shot here. Sweeping this very early.

2:50:43 > 2:50:51They have got to keep working this. To bring it in. Keep going.

2:50:51 > 2:50:55Great sweeping. They were on that right from the

2:50:55 > 2:51:06very beginning. So, Canada now with two stones in that and a load Swiss

2:51:06 > 2:51:17stone -- lone. So, where can he put this?

2:51:17 > 2:51:25He has got to be lying second shot after this.

2:51:25 > 2:51:29after this. I am not sure he is going to be able to.

2:51:29 > 2:51:36The key for Benoit... Is to roll in front of that red.

2:51:36 > 2:51:47Absolutely. To protect his own red. Just a bit much. Into second shot

2:51:47 > 2:51:53position. Not an easy double. It is quite thin.

2:51:53 > 2:52:00In any situation you just want to take the two at. But not leave the

2:52:00 > 2:52:08shooter in there. They can't just take the red at the button. It would

2:52:08 > 2:52:16only be the one. He will have to try to come on the inside of that red.

2:52:16 > 2:52:25And tap that other red back.It is so easy to spin that uplift. I am OK

2:52:25 > 2:52:34with a little more. I am OK with control. If Kevin Koe was playing in

2:52:34 > 2:52:40the way you are used to watching him, you would be thinking, he is

2:52:40 > 2:52:44going to make this easy. He may well do. But the way he has been playing

2:52:44 > 2:52:49and the situation, this is a big pressure shot for Kevin Koe. This

2:52:49 > 2:52:57will pretty much keep them in contention. You can see the Swiss,

2:52:57 > 2:53:04well, something has tickled the pair of them. And you can see how

2:53:04 > 2:53:08anxiously the Swiss, sorry, the Canadian fans are watching. Kevin

2:53:08 > 2:53:13Koe with his last stone. He had to try and take out both of these Swiss

2:53:13 > 2:53:19stones. One isn't good enough for him. As he got it? He is close. That

2:53:19 > 2:53:25is a cracking shot from the Canadian skip just when he needed to produce

2:53:25 > 2:53:34his best. He has found a way to get his two in the eighth end. It will

2:53:34 > 2:53:40mean Switzerland still do this with two to play and they will still

2:53:40 > 2:53:44consider themselves favourites to win. But Canada have got a real

2:53:44 > 2:53:49opportunity, now only one behind, two end to play, Switzerland with

2:53:49 > 2:53:53the hammer. Everyone was holding their breath, the Canadian fans in

2:53:53 > 2:54:01the stand anxiously looking on. That was a must make. He only hit

2:54:01 > 2:54:05maybe a quarter at most of that stone, a tough shot. Any error and

2:54:05 > 2:54:09he could have given up a steel event. That would have been game

2:54:09 > 2:54:14over.

2:54:18 > 2:54:30over. -- a steal, even. The second one put the pressure on

2:54:30 > 2:54:40Kevin Koe. And this time he stood up to it. That was a nice shot. Here we

2:54:40 > 2:54:45go again, the ninth end. Switzerland with the hammer. If they get their

2:54:45 > 2:54:52two, it will be very difficult for Canada. If they can hold them to

2:54:52 > 2:54:58one, then they would need a the two in the final end. Always a

2:54:58 > 2:55:09possibility of a steel. -- a steal. The other thing Canada wouldn't want

2:55:09 > 2:55:18here is a blanked end.

2:55:21 > 2:55:27Just a bit more of the same from Switzerland, run the stones through,

2:55:27 > 2:55:31put more end in the books, get closer to the winning line.

2:55:36 > 2:55:41Ben Hebert not wasting any thinking time.

2:55:46 > 2:55:57The line is good. Fairly tight. Stay with it.

2:56:05 > 2:56:14Ben Hebert, after nine Ben, his shooting is 100%. He has been

2:56:14 > 2:56:19putting guards in place a couple of takeouts, maybe.

2:56:25 > 2:56:34This bronze medal match, if you are hanging on before going to work, and

2:56:34 > 2:56:44people are off score as well, this has got two end to go. We still

2:56:44 > 2:56:48haven't had a time-out from Switzerland yet. Canada have used

2:56:48 > 2:56:53theirs. Switzerland still have the opportunity if they need it. We

2:56:53 > 2:56:58could be into an extra end, that is a possibility. And don't forget

2:56:58 > 2:57:06Great Britain's women in the semifinal against Sweden at 11am.

2:57:07 > 2:57:11Brent Laing has upped his game in the second half.

2:57:11 > 2:57:18He has been much better. You notice they weren't trying to take out that

2:57:18 > 2:57:22red but leave them round the back of the house so it is more difficult

2:57:22 > 2:57:30for Switzerland to remove The Yellows.

2:57:39 > 2:57:43Often the stone which has been taken out is running through the house and

2:57:43 > 2:57:53anything at the back might just catch. The Canadian strategy here

2:57:53 > 2:58:00has two B, limit them to one. Give themselves the chance to tie it up,

2:58:00 > 2:58:09keep this match going. So, another guard out there for Canada.

2:58:13 > 2:58:23Which will be removed.

2:58:30 > 2:58:38This is building up, the tension ratcheted up all the time,

2:58:38 > 2:58:41particularly for Canada, but also for Switzerland because they are

2:58:41 > 2:58:47getting ever closer to a bronze medal and a victory over Canada. But

2:58:47 > 2:58:53they have got some work to do. So, Marc Kennedy, then, trying to draw

2:58:53 > 2:58:55in this time.

2:58:58 > 2:59:06The line is good, guys.Come on, keep going! Canada warming to the

2:59:06 > 2:59:13task here.

2:59:13 > 2:59:21There you go, that is shot. Great sweeping. I think Switzerland

2:59:21 > 2:59:27will want to continue to play things up front, if they can.A really good

2:59:27 > 2:59:34draw here by the Canadians. They even managed to get it into shot

2:59:34 > 2:59:38position. Switzerland will try to start banning some of these yellows

2:59:38 > 2:59:48into the house. -- running.

2:59:55 > 3:00:03Canada just down to four minutes and 20, roughly, with still 11 shots to

3:00:03 > 3:00:09play in this game. The time the stones are running, the clock is

3:00:09 > 3:00:16ticking.

3:00:20 > 3:00:23They've seen the Canadians spending quite a lot of time over some

3:00:23 > 3:00:27tactical discussions, so they're going to have to be quite decisive

3:00:27 > 3:00:33over the closing stages here. STEVE CRAM: Well, that gives them

3:00:33 > 3:00:45the chance now to get those two yellows.

3:00:46 > 3:00:53Cropper after this, it will just be the two skips to play once more.

3:00:53 > 3:00:58Claudio Patz has been very, very good - has he played a good shot

3:00:58 > 3:01:05here at?That's a cracker. Well, the brushes go up, almost go up anyway.

3:01:05 > 3:01:11We almost saw a bit of excitement from the Swiss team there! He's a

3:01:11 > 3:01:19great character, and he quietly goes about his business.

3:01:44 > 3:01:52Kevin Koe, only 25%, I think that is on the clockwise rotation, not too

3:01:52 > 3:01:58sure on that graphic!

3:02:07 > 3:02:11That's nicely done by Kevin Koe, but this is beginning to look difficult

3:02:11 > 3:02:22Canada now. Time-out called by Switzerland.

3:02:22 > 3:02:29SWISS TEAM SPEAK FRENCH

3:02:45 > 3:02:55LOGAN GRAY: So, the coach comes out onto the ice to support the team.

3:02:55 > 3:02:58The coaches take a bit of travel time before the one-minute time-out,

3:02:58 > 3:03:02so who should time his walk perfectly to get there for the start

3:03:02 > 3:03:08of its!37 seconds left.

3:03:23 > 3:03:31SWISS TEAM SPEAK FRENCH

3:03:31 > 3:03:36Canadian fans still trying to lift their team here. But what an

3:03:36 > 3:03:44opportunity for Switzerland. LOGAN GRAY: It certainly is. They

3:03:44 > 3:03:48can go for a peel on this one, I don't see too many other options for

3:03:48 > 3:03:58them. The 2003 world silver medallist Claudio Pescia leaves the

3:03:58 > 3:04:04playing area and returns to his comfy seat on the bench.

3:04:05 > 3:04:08comfy seat on the bench. So, Benoit Schwarz, the man who put paid to

3:04:08 > 3:04:13Great Britain's hopes in the men's competition in that tie-break match.

3:04:13 > 3:04:18I think they may have been going to the one in the house there.Yeah,

3:04:18 > 3:04:21played it on the safe side, he caught plenty of that stone. So,

3:04:21 > 3:04:27that's it on time-outs.

3:04:32 > 3:04:40that's it on time-outs. And now, Kevin Koe...

3:04:40 > 3:04:47Kevin Koe... He's going to try and leave his shooter in here. Not easy

3:04:47 > 3:04:53to avoid leaving a double takeout for Switzerland. Needs to roll away

3:04:53 > 3:04:59from the other shot in the house but still stay in the white bit to lie

3:04:59 > 3:05:05two.

3:05:05 > 3:05:12two.Well, he's been blowing a bit hot and cold, Kevin Koe. Has he got

3:05:12 > 3:05:17a hot one here...?

3:05:17 > 3:05:21a hot one here...?Maybe good enough. It does look like there is a

3:05:21 > 3:05:28double therefore two.It does, he just needs to hit, come across, he

3:05:28 > 3:05:32just needs to tap the other second yellow, not too far. -- there for

3:05:32 > 3:05:37two.

3:05:40 > 3:05:44two.Yeah, they look pretty flat, the two yellow stones, but they're

3:05:44 > 3:05:48so close together you can generate the speed you need to remove the

3:05:48 > 3:05:52other one. Who will be looking to hit this one roundabout to third

3:05:52 > 3:05:58contact and it should just pop the second yellow straight along the tee

3:05:58 > 3:06:07line.So, Benoit Schwarz... He's been playing very well, it's been

3:06:07 > 3:06:11draws which have been his forte so far, not quite so good on the

3:06:11 > 3:06:15takeouts, so he's looking here to take away this Canadian yellow, roll

3:06:15 > 3:06:20across and try and take both of them out, try and pick up his two... Has

3:06:20 > 3:06:26he done it? That's it, just gets the one. Well, Kevin Koe managing to

3:06:26 > 3:06:30force the one. It was not a great shot from Benoit Schwarz. But

3:06:30 > 3:06:35perhaps a ring on the side of caution. So, we have a match now

3:06:35 > 3:06:41which Canada still have a chance in. They have fought well over these

3:06:41 > 3:06:44last couple of ends when they haven't been playing well. They have

3:06:44 > 3:06:51picked up two in the eighth, limited Switzerland to one in the

3:06:51 > 3:06:58ninth,which is what they had to do.

3:07:04 > 3:07:11Well, this could be the last between end discussion for the teams here.

3:07:11 > 3:07:18Still the possibility of going to an extra end. Canada would have to

3:07:18 > 3:07:24score two to tie the game here in the tenth end. It's our last game

3:07:24 > 3:07:32ever hear, let's go!Definitely advantage Switzerland.

3:07:43 > 3:07:51Valentin Tanner with the first stone of the tenth end, a match which for

3:07:51 > 3:07:55a long time Switzerland have controlled.Play almost flawless

3:07:55 > 3:08:00curling, forcing Canada to give up a steal in the first couple of ends

3:08:00 > 3:08:03and it was a while before Switzerland actually got the hammer.

3:08:03 > 3:08:08Canada finally picking up two in the fourth. Then Switzerland responded

3:08:08 > 3:08:11and got themselves into a two-shot lead, and then we traded shots

3:08:11 > 3:08:15pretty much since the halfway point, but Switzerland have always looked

3:08:15 > 3:08:21as though they've just got their noses in front, and as they come to

3:08:21 > 3:08:26this last end, that's exactly how they set, two ahead. Canada have

3:08:26 > 3:08:29managed to claw it back on a couple of occasions, but they've really

3:08:29 > 3:08:33just been hanging onto Switzerland more than anything else. So a big

3:08:33 > 3:08:37ask of them in the final end, they're two behind, they need to

3:08:37 > 3:08:41score their two here to take this into an extra end, and if that was

3:08:41 > 3:08:47the case, Switzerland would have the hammer in that extra end.Well, we

3:08:47 > 3:08:53very rarely see this shot made, taking a corner guard and trying to

3:08:53 > 3:08:57push it towards the bumper.Needs the faintest of touches... He's

3:08:57 > 3:09:02missed it.

3:09:03 > 3:09:06missed it. Well, that's the first time he has been asked to do that in

3:09:06 > 3:09:09this match, and he misses by a couple of inches, quite a long way,

3:09:09 > 3:09:14to be honest.It looks like a really bad shot, but it's such a hard shot

3:09:14 > 3:09:21to play. They could not just remove that yellow stone in that free guard

3:09:21 > 3:09:23zone, you can't remove the opposition stolen from that area, or

3:09:23 > 3:09:30it will just be replaced.Just explain, Logan, why we would do

3:09:30 > 3:09:34that? We have seen Canada put corner guards up before and they have

3:09:34 > 3:09:40ignored them - why in the last end would you change your tactic? It is

3:09:40 > 3:09:43a good question, Steve. They could have quite rightly thrown another

3:09:43 > 3:09:48stone into the house. But I think they're really wary that by putting

3:09:48 > 3:09:51additional stones in play, they give Canada a chance to score reefer or

3:09:51 > 3:09:57even three. So, they're going to Canada work extremely hard for the

3:09:57 > 3:10:04smallest reward.

3:10:04 > 3:10:08smallest reward. So, they get rid of the guard with that one. Just to

3:10:08 > 3:10:13refresh the situation for you - Canada have never, ever even been in

3:10:13 > 3:10:17a bronze medal match, they've always been in the gold-medal match Tom

3:10:17 > 3:10:20Aggar silver, that's the worst they've done in the men's

3:10:20 > 3:10:24competition. The women, of course, not even making it out of the round

3:10:24 > 3:10:29robin into the final four. So, the men hoping to at least have some

3:10:29 > 3:10:35consolation with a bronze medal here.

3:10:36 > 3:10:40here. Canada, the curling capital of the world, if you like, if they were

3:10:40 > 3:10:44not to win a medal in these two team competitions, then it would be one

3:10:44 > 3:10:48of the biggest shocks of the Winter Olympics. The USA beating them in

3:10:48 > 3:10:53the semifinal yesterday.Oh, that's not a good shot there from Brent

3:10:53 > 3:11:05Laing. And that has summed up the last week for him. This could be

3:11:05 > 3:11:07last week for him. This could be a game ender here.Just to finish off

3:11:07 > 3:11:13what I was saying there, after Brent Laing played that shot, it's been a

3:11:13 > 3:11:18week which has ebbed and flowed all the time to Canada. At times they've

3:11:18 > 3:11:21looked very good, the sort of Canada men's team you would expect to see

3:11:21 > 3:11:24at the Winter Olympics. At other times, certainly not playing very

3:11:24 > 3:11:30well. Kevin Koe in particular I think on occasion not managing to

3:11:30 > 3:11:32play the sort of shots he is renowned for. This is Peter de Cruz,

3:11:32 > 3:11:41the Swiss skip, playing two. And they are the team, of course, who

3:11:41 > 3:11:44got past Great Britain in the tie-break. And now are edging closer

3:11:44 > 3:11:50to the bronze medal. Lovely shot there from Peter de Cruz., yeah. We

3:11:50 > 3:11:55just saw Andi Schwaller, who has won the bronze medal as skip for

3:11:55 > 3:12:02Switzerland here at the Olympics. Back in, was it, 2002, Steve?Yes,

3:12:02 > 3:12:132002. Salt Lake City.

3:12:14 > 3:12:18Well, this is a really difficult spot now offer Canada after that

3:12:18 > 3:12:24missed guard by Brent Laing. They're going to desperately try and hide

3:12:24 > 3:12:28behind something, but they could still get a result, however. Not

3:12:28 > 3:12:31this time, though. This is going to be wide open. And all Switzerland

3:12:31 > 3:12:35need to do is to keep taking stones out and keeping things nice and

3:12:35 > 3:12:42clear. They know Canada need two. If they keep trading stones, then

3:12:42 > 3:12:45there's not going to be an opportunity the Kevin Koe, who will

3:12:45 > 3:12:49be looking to try and work something once they get down to the last two

3:12:49 > 3:12:53or three. But Claudio Patz has played brilliantly, I've been really

3:12:53 > 3:12:56impressed with him all the way through the tournament.Canada are

3:12:56 > 3:13:00going to need a little bit of help hear, they don't have anything going

3:13:00 > 3:13:06at the moment. Canada are going to have to try and find a way to

3:13:06 > 3:13:12literally just bite a tiny edge. They're actually going to try

3:13:12 > 3:13:15something a bit different, we saw them trying this yesterday against

3:13:15 > 3:13:18the USA. They're going to try and freeze the inside of this yellow

3:13:18 > 3:13:26stone.

3:13:26 > 3:13:33PLAYER: It's close!

3:13:33 > 3:13:37EILIDH BARBOUR: Apologies, but we have reached the end of our time

3:13:37 > 3:13:41here on BBC Two. We are going straight over to BBC One, but you

3:13:41 > 3:13:44can see the conclusion of this match live on the red button, or

3:13:44 > 3:13:48switchover to BBC One and join Clare Balding, who will bring you the

3:13:48 > 3:13:56conclusion of that match and the match between the Briton and Sweden

3:13:56 > 3:13:59in the semifinals of the women's tournament. From me it is goodbye

3:13:59 > 3:14:02and I will see you tomorrow morning.
