0:00:36 > 0:00:43Welcome back if you have switched over from BBC1, welcome to continued
0:00:43 > 0:00:48cover of the Winter Olympics from Pyeongchang. Chemmy is with me and
0:00:48 > 0:00:56we are going take you straight to final two competitors of finals in
0:00:56 > 0:01:02the men's moguls. Matt Chilton can tell us what happened.
0:01:02 > 0:01:07the men's moguls. Matt Chilton can tell us what happened.
0:01:08 > 0:01:15tell us what happened. COMMENTATOR: Matt Graham is next, followed
0:01:20 > 0:01:24Matt Graham is next, followed by Sho Endo of Japan. Can he put an
0:01:24 > 0:01:31Australian in the Super Six? A full twisting back somersault. The skiing
0:01:31 > 0:01:39is fantastic. Matt blame is in control. He has not put a foot wrong
0:01:39 > 0:01:47yet. He has gone for the big knee skin 1080. He has nailed it. It is
0:01:47 > 0:01:51fast. I think that will be good enough to see him through to the
0:01:51 > 0:01:59final to give him a chance of skiing for a medal. The two Australian
0:01:59 > 0:02:04women missed out in the medals last night. But Matt Graham has an
0:02:04 > 0:02:14opportunity to be one of the final six year. Elegant, high.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17six year. Elegant, high. Floated, full twisting back somersault. The
0:02:17 > 0:02:22turns were as good as any we have seen tonight. He chose to go down
0:02:22 > 0:02:31the right-hand side of the track. He has 14.8 speed points. He has got to
0:02:31 > 0:02:40be one of the highest scoring on the turns which make up 60% of the marks
0:02:40 > 0:02:46remember and that second aerial was a beauty. He has gone fourth. With
0:02:46 > 0:02:54one to come, he has qualified. He is in the final six!
0:02:59 > 0:03:09in the final six! The last man out, Sho Endo from Japan. Sho Endo last
0:03:09 > 0:03:16to ski in is in round. Can he get in the final six? She endo makes the
0:03:16 > 0:03:22first ten turns. Beautifully executed. Full twisting back
0:03:22 > 0:03:26somersault. No problems with landing. Now he is in trouble. He is
0:03:26 > 0:03:32over! And his Olympics ends right there and he may have done some
0:03:32 > 0:03:37damage. He seems to be clutching his right arm. No, he is back on his
0:03:37 > 0:03:44feet. No, I think he is OK. Thank goodness for that. Sho Endo has
0:03:44 > 0:03:51failed to finish. And that means... Well once, we will see the final
0:03:51 > 0:03:56scores through.
0:04:04 > 0:04:12Matt Graham, Slatten, and Gagnon are the last three.
0:04:13 > 0:04:19the last three. That is the way it will conclude in the reverse order
0:04:19 > 0:04:25of their positions after this round. It is an unfortunate end for Sho
0:04:25 > 0:04:30Endo, who was the top scorer in the previous final, but he has failed to
0:04:30 > 0:04:41capitalise. It ended spectacularly. But with no medals. So
0:04:43 > 0:04:45But with no medals. So the
0:05:13 > 0:05:25Rather deject Sho Endo heads off as we get confirmation of the top six.
0:05:26 > 0:05:30The only European is Slatten from Norway.
0:05:30 > 0:05:34The only European is Slatten from Norway.
0:05:34 > 0:05:40STUDIO: So many failing to complete because you have got go for it.The
0:05:40 > 0:05:45level is so high and the height they're getting on the jump is
0:05:45 > 0:05:49incredible. But there is no landing space and they have got to get
0:05:49 > 0:05:54straight back into the bumps. There has been a good run from Canadian
0:05:54 > 0:06:04and mainly men from Quebec. This was his run, he wasn't the top
0:06:04 > 0:06:08qualifier, but I think his jumps are so impressive. Particularly the
0:06:08 > 0:06:16second one.So precise. So airtight. Look at the speed. The upper body is
0:06:16 > 0:06:21staying down hill. The feet power from side to side. This, Clare, you
0:06:21 > 0:06:27loved this. Look at that - iron cross in the air. So much height. He
0:06:27 > 0:06:33has been unstoppable on the World Cup circuit for the last two seasons
0:06:33 > 0:06:40and won 13 consecutive races. That is an incredible stat. He is from
0:06:40 > 0:06:47Canada, from Quebec, the snow is very similar to South Korea, it is
0:06:47 > 0:06:54man made and he is the man to beat. They have to keep the knees relaxed
0:06:54 > 0:07:01to be able to pump them right up to their chest. They're jarring each
0:07:01 > 0:07:06time, they're trying to carve into the bumps. 60% of what the judges
0:07:06 > 0:07:11look at is the turn space. The air time he has was incredible. This is
0:07:11 > 0:07:16the shot I love. Look at that for a slo-mo and right up into the night
0:07:16 > 0:07:21sky. It looks so dramatic. It seems the wind has definitely dropped and
0:07:21 > 0:07:25they're lower down the mountain. Different resort. They're down the
0:07:25 > 0:07:29valley and the wind doesn't affect them as much. If it was windy it
0:07:29 > 0:07:35would be dises a draws -- disastrous. It is great to have an
0:07:35 > 0:07:39event that isn't affected by the wind. We will have a battle of the
0:07:39 > 0:07:45big dogs in moguls, because they will push it hard.A bottle of big
0:07:45 > 0:07:54dogs, love it. Now our leader, he posted the highest score. They have
0:07:54 > 0:07:59the knee markers on. You can see them trying to get into the flow. So
0:07:59 > 0:08:03precise with the movements. Fast pumping the legs. The head is so
0:08:03 > 0:08:08stable. Everything is working under the body. The legs side to side,
0:08:08 > 0:08:12having to get the timing right and then look at that, landing right
0:08:12 > 0:08:25into the moguls.Although Japan lost their world champion. Did you see
0:08:25 > 0:08:32the Australians with their bare chests.Yes, every day let's get
0:08:32 > 0:08:37somebody out with the bare chest. Such an Aussie thing. Love it. We
0:08:37 > 0:08:42had one Aussie guy through. The Australians are so strong in this
0:08:42 > 0:08:48discipline, the girls last night and the guys tonight. You were saying,
0:08:48 > 0:08:53now for recreational skiers, back when I learned to ski, you were
0:08:53 > 0:08:57trying to do that, have your knees together. Now, no one skis like
0:08:57 > 0:09:07that.They don't ski like that on the piste. We have a horrible term
0:09:07 > 0:09:12called a mincer. These are the best of it. Here we are live back for the
0:09:12 > 0:09:17final six. They will be judged by those men behind the glass and Matt
0:09:17 > 0:09:25Chilton watching on for the medals to be decided.
0:09:25 > 0:09:36COMMENTATOR: Time for the Super Six.
0:09:38 > 0:09:49There are two Canadians in this final. There is a Japanese skier who
0:09:49 > 0:09:58will be the last to ski.
0:09:58 > 0:10:00will be the last to ski. The starting order is irrelevant.
0:10:00 > 0:10:06Previous scores are scrubbed out. It is a fresh start. The best score of
0:10:06 > 0:10:14the six will win gold.
0:10:14 > 0:10:17the six will win gold. And Gagnon starts. He means business. A power.
0:10:17 > 0:10:24Start. Beautiful full twisting back somer salt. Flowing from bump to
0:10:24 > 0:10:30bump. Magnificent from Gagnon. A lack of control on a couple of
0:10:30 > 0:10:40turns. But he has managed to get it back on his terms. Big D spin. Lands
0:10:40 > 0:10:47it perfectly and clocks 25.3 seconds. He sets the standard in the
0:10:47 > 0:10:57final. That is all he can do. His turns weren't perfect and you have
0:10:57 > 0:11:05to say that Gagnon skied quite beautifully. Fourth in Sochi. Can he
0:11:05 > 0:11:12get on the podium and get himself an Olympic medal tonight? A couple of
0:11:12 > 0:11:20errors through the turns. He never let them get too far away from him.
0:11:20 > 0:11:28He put in this magnificent corked 1080 to complete his run. The
0:11:28 > 0:11:33landing was solid.
0:11:39 > 0:11:47Kingsbury to come. 77.02 to Gagnon. Penalised for the mistakes in the
0:11:47 > 0:11:56middle part of the course.
0:11:56 > 0:11:57middle part of the course. Slatten hadn't even qualified before
0:11:57 > 0:12:04tonight. He had to ski all the way from the first run tonight to make
0:12:04 > 0:12:10his way to the super final. The only European in the contest. It's over
0:12:10 > 0:12:19for Slatten. He will not be amongst the medals tonight. He is doing the
0:12:19 > 0:12:25right thing, because who knows what will happen to the rest. He won't
0:12:25 > 0:12:33get a DNF. Sensible skiing. Put in a big jump to finish. 26.71 through
0:12:33 > 0:12:42the speed gun. Gagnon still leading the way. Slatten will get a score,
0:12:42 > 0:12:46because he finished his run. He will need a whole lot of luck now to get
0:12:46 > 0:12:59a medal. Highly unlikely with the others to go. Including the
0:12:59 > 0:13:04astonishing Daichi Hara, the young Japanese man. Started well for
0:13:04 > 0:13:11Slatten.
0:13:11 > 0:13:15Slatten. Then the landing let him down. He was looking for good aerial
0:13:15 > 0:13:23scores as he bounced recklessly and eventually coming to a halt. Given a
0:13:23 > 0:13:3333.61. Silver medal position for the moment! Gagnon leading the way. Next
0:13:33 > 0:13:40the Australian, Matt Graham. Who had a group of bare-chested supporters
0:13:40 > 0:13:44watching him a little while ago. They have wrapped up now - thank
0:13:44 > 0:13:49goodness. The man who finished 7th in Sochi.
0:13:53 > 0:13:56Full twisting back somersault to kick it off.
0:14:00 > 0:14:08These are good, fast accurate turns.
0:14:08 > 0:14:15Big D-spin, what a run from Matt Graham from Australia. That's got
0:14:15 > 0:14:22the Australians on their feet as if they needed an excuse. And that
0:14:22 > 0:14:31might see him score 80-plus and put him into gold medal position. First
0:14:31 > 0:14:37jump elegant, skis locked together. Full twisting back somersault, right
0:14:37 > 0:14:42back into the money turns in the middle part of the course. Couldn't
0:14:42 > 0:14:48spot any mistakes and then he went big on the final kicker. Three
0:14:48 > 0:14:59lateral twists. The big corked 10. Got the landing. And skied on.Come
0:14:59 > 0:15:07on!It is gold medal position. Big score, 82.57 for Graham of
0:15:07 > 0:15:13Australia.
0:15:15 > 0:15:19Three to come.
0:15:19 > 0:15:22Three to come. Gagnon put down to silver medal position now. Matt
0:15:22 > 0:15:30Graham leads the way. Casey Andringa, the only American in this
0:15:30 > 0:15:43super final. He is ready to go. 22 years old. And he's off and running.
0:15:43 > 0:15:48Ten turns to negotiate before he flies. He put in a grab on that back
0:15:48 > 0:15:54somersaults, a beautiful execution of the jump for him. Has he got the
0:15:54 > 0:16:04speed and control? The turns look pretty good. Andringa goes high and
0:16:04 > 0:16:11sits down and he will not take the lead.
0:16:11 > 0:16:17Good effort from Casey Andringa. Left it all on the Hill. And with
0:16:17 > 0:16:24two to come, Matt Graham knows that he has got a medal. Just too much to
0:16:24 > 0:16:32mark down here. The turns in the middle part of the course were a
0:16:32 > 0:16:37highlight for Casey Andringa. The landing at the bottom part of the
0:16:37 > 0:16:42course was Paul, and that's where he's lost the chance to lead this
0:16:42 > 0:16:49Olympic final. Just Mikael Kingsbury, the world number one, the
0:16:49 > 0:16:56youngest man in the super final, Daichi Hara, to come. What score
0:16:56 > 0:17:05will be give to Casey Andringa? Went for the big cab driver double grab
0:17:05 > 0:17:13but sat down on landing. Waiting for the inevitable bad news, I think.
0:17:13 > 0:17:19Into third. A generous score. But he's behind Matt Graham who has gold
0:17:19 > 0:17:27medal position and behind Marc-Antoine Gagnon who isn't
0:17:27 > 0:17:36silver. Guaranteed -- Robert is in silver.
0:17:36 > 0:17:43Matt Graham is guaranteed a medal. The last Australian to win this was
0:17:43 > 0:17:50always viewed by the Australians as a Canadian. Talking of Canadians,
0:17:50 > 0:17:53here is Mikael Kingsbury. The world number one, the one thing that's
0:17:53 > 0:17:59missing is the Olympic gold medal. Can he complete the set? Off and
0:17:59 > 0:18:02running, big D-spin, the landing was absolutely bang on from Mikael
0:18:02 > 0:18:11Kingsbury. Barely a movement before he started with the turns in the
0:18:11 > 0:18:15middle part of the course. Covering the ground super quick. He flies,
0:18:15 > 0:18:20lands, skis off, what's to be given a full gold medal position with just
0:18:20 > 0:18:28Daichi Hara to come. The Canadians are celebrating. Surely that's a
0:18:28 > 0:18:34medal for Mikael Kingsbury, who took the silver behind his compatriots
0:18:34 > 0:18:41four years ago in Sochi. God is to wait for the deliberations from the
0:18:41 > 0:18:48judges. Big 1080. -- he has got to wait for the deliberations. Superb
0:18:48 > 0:18:57aerial form from Mikael Kingsbury. It was a double full posting back
0:18:57 > 0:19:06somersaults with two twists. Really hope degree of difficulty there. --
0:19:06 > 0:19:13high degree of difficulty. Second kicker, made sure of the landing and
0:19:13 > 0:19:18it was smooth and soft. The Canadian coach enjoys it. Will that be good
0:19:18 > 0:19:22enough for gold medal position with one to come from Mikael Kingsbury,
0:19:22 > 0:19:29he leads! That will take some beating. Kingsbury is guaranteed
0:19:29 > 0:19:35silver at worst.
0:19:37 > 0:19:44silver at worst. He leads the way, Kingsbury. One to come. The youngest
0:19:44 > 0:19:54man in the contest. Daichi Hara from Japan. Just 20. He stands between
0:19:54 > 0:19:58Mikael Kingsbury and his gold medal.
0:20:02 > 0:20:10It's a massive task now for Daichi Hara.
0:20:10 > 0:20:16The last skier of the 2018 Olympic moguls competition is away. Daichi
0:20:16 > 0:20:24Hara of Japan. The first
0:20:24 > 0:20:28Hara of Japan. The first through solidly. These are the turns where
0:20:28 > 0:20:33he has been on fire tonight. Beautiful skiing from Daichi Hara.
0:20:33 > 0:20:40Fast, direct and he goes high and grabs, lands softly and sweetly and
0:20:40 > 0:20:46skis away. Will it be enough for a medal? I'm not sure it's enough for
0:20:46 > 0:20:51gold. The degree of difficulty displayed by Mikael Kingsbury in his
0:20:51 > 0:20:56aerial manoeuvres might just see him take the title. But Daichi Hara may
0:20:56 > 0:21:02well be on for medal here. Kingsbury sits in gold medal position at the
0:21:02 > 0:21:06moment. Matt Graham of Australia holds the silver. Marc-Antoine
0:21:06 > 0:21:14Gagnon of Canada is the man in bronze. Will Daichi Hara change the
0:21:14 > 0:21:23top of the leaderboard here? Whose time is fast.
0:21:23 > 0:21:35time is fast. Not as fast as either Graham or Kingsbury.
0:21:35 > 0:21:40He may get a medal but it's not going to be gold. I can't see the
0:21:40 > 0:21:47judges giving him enough to go past Mikael Kingsbury. He's praying. He's
0:21:47 > 0:21:55waiting. He's got the bronze! Daichi Hara has a medal for Japan but
0:21:55 > 0:22:01Mikael Kingsbury is the Olympic bumps champion at last. The world
0:22:01 > 0:22:08number one fulfils his dream and wins the biggest prize in mogul
0:22:08 > 0:22:13skiing.
0:22:14 > 0:22:17skiing. His compatriot has won it for the last two Olympics for
0:22:17 > 0:22:27Canada. Three in a row for the Canadians, and the Australians have
0:22:27 > 0:22:33a silver medal. And the 20-year-old from Japan, Daichi Hara, has the
0:22:33 > 0:22:43men's moguls Olympic bronze medal. What a contest today.
0:22:45 > 0:22:48Well, they didn't know too much about Daichi Hara coming into this
0:22:48 > 0:22:56competition. Matt Graham and Mikael Kingsbury established competitors on
0:22:56 > 0:23:00the World Cup, Kingsbury the world number one, he's one more World Cup
0:23:00 > 0:23:04races than anyone in mogul skiing history. Tonight he's got the one
0:23:04 > 0:23:08that really matters to him. He would have given up all those World Cup
0:23:08 > 0:23:18points to take the elliptical. Olympic -- Olympic gold. Last night
0:23:18 > 0:23:26France took the gold with Canada just missing out. In the women's
0:23:26 > 0:23:31event. And I think that was his mum and dad who have travelled to South
0:23:31 > 0:23:33Korea to watch complete. The anticipation and the Beeld. Within
0:23:33 > 0:23:38the Canadian media to this -- build-up within the Canadian media
0:23:38 > 0:23:44to this competition was immense because everyone was aware of what
0:23:44 > 0:23:48Mikael Kingsbury is capable of. He has got a park named after him in
0:23:48 > 0:23:54his hometown, he's got celebrity status in Canadian media circles.
0:23:54 > 0:23:59Tonight he will leave as the Olympic champion. It will be Canada's second
0:23:59 > 0:24:04gold medal of the Olympic Winter Games. The Silver ghost to Matt
0:24:04 > 0:24:09Graham. With Daichi Hara taking the bronze.
0:24:09 > 0:24:17STUDIO: what a happy podium. First medals of the games for Japan and
0:24:17 > 0:24:20Australia but that was the one that was missing for Mikael Kingsbury.
0:24:20 > 0:24:21Australia but that was the one that was missing for Mikael Kingsbury. It
0:24:21 > 0:24:27was so deserved, his degree of difficulty in the aerials was huge,
0:24:27 > 0:24:29executed perfectly. A massive score and get his reaction and what it
0:24:29 > 0:24:32meant to him.I want if it would help him going down second last
0:24:32 > 0:24:39rather than last?Britto the -- we have talked about being up there
0:24:39 > 0:24:43last, no one is around you. But with that performance, nothing would have
0:24:43 > 0:24:50floored him. It was amazing.Talk us through the speed, the accuracy, the
0:24:50 > 0:24:55flexibility required for this.First of all, he got the pace straight off
0:24:55 > 0:24:55the
0:24:55 > 0:24:56of all, he got the pace straight off the bat, really quickly into the
0:24:56 > 0:25:05rhythm. The first air was beautiful, so clean. Look at this, upper so
0:25:05 > 0:25:08strong, -- upper body so strong and disciplined, legs pumping, doesn't
0:25:08 > 0:25:13make it look too bad on the knees and that shows you how effortless it
0:25:13 > 0:25:17is for him. Beautiful airtime, so clean over the line. He knew it,
0:25:17 > 0:25:24this was the one missing, the one he wanted. The crowd knew it.A big
0:25:24 > 0:25:28Canadian team supported him, his family out there but he is great
0:25:28 > 0:25:35friends with all of the moguls sisters, and she said, just Dean,
0:25:35 > 0:25:38she said it was amazing for them all to be there and in contention.
0:25:40 > 0:25:44Yes, once you have someone that strong in your team, it lists you
0:25:44 > 0:25:49all. You need someone pushing those boundaries. You want someone on your
0:25:49 > 0:25:54team on your side. And he demolished it. The other guys lifted up their
0:25:54 > 0:25:59level as well. He didn't win by default. He won because he had the
0:25:59 > 0:26:03perfect run. Perfect line and execution. That's an Olympic gold
0:26:03 > 0:26:09medallist through and through. I'm very glad that the Australian fans
0:26:09 > 0:26:12who have put their jacket on were rewarded for their brave the early
0:26:12 > 0:26:16on with a medal. You saw what it meant in the finishing area for Matt
0:26:16 > 0:26:22Graham. He put it out there, a clean run, not a degree of difficulty but
0:26:22 > 0:26:27really clean. In terms of a podium, I have not seen one where every one
0:26:27 > 0:26:32was buzzing. Relatively unknown Daichi Hara who was a surprise, he
0:26:32 > 0:26:37comes in.Youngest son of the whole lot. -- youngest one of the whole
0:26:37 > 0:26:43lot.All of those emotions, that is what you look for. That means that
0:26:43 > 0:26:46we can switch to various other sports, we have such a range of
0:26:46 > 0:26:50things available.Women's ski jumping came into the Olympic Games
0:26:50 > 0:26:55only four years ago. That is after an awful lot of campaigning. It took
0:26:55 > 0:27:01them 16 years to get there. And I think it's a beautiful sport to
0:27:01 > 0:27:05watch. They try and stay in the air for as long as they can. And the
0:27:05 > 0:27:14wind speed has been factoring in, it delayed the men until after
0:27:14 > 0:27:16midnight. But we will go to the women's competition after this
0:27:16 > 0:27:22guide. Ski jumping takes place on either
0:27:22 > 0:27:25the normal hell of a large hill. Competitors typically jump further
0:27:25 > 0:27:30than the length of a football pitch at speeds of 90 miles an hour.
0:27:30 > 0:27:34Distance is the biggest factor in success. But points are also awarded
0:27:34 > 0:27:38for style in proud run, posture, fight and landing. Points for
0:27:38 > 0:27:47distance are determined where the person lands in equivalency to be
0:27:47 > 0:27:55Kbyte which is the equivalent of a par score in -- the K-point which is
0:27:55 > 0:27:58the equivalent of the putt in golf. Each competitor has two jumps which
0:27:58 > 0:28:07are combined. -- it's the equivalent of the past go in golf. -- par
0:28:07 > 0:28:13score.
0:28:14 > 0:28:17Chemmy Alcott has tried just about everything but have you tried this?
0:28:17 > 0:28:24No, I had been the top of one and that Iran is so. I would probably --
0:28:24 > 0:28:30ramp is so big. I would possibly do it on that celebrity programme but
0:28:30 > 0:28:37it is all about the tiny adjustments they make, the hip action. They are
0:28:37 > 0:28:40jumping on the ground is training, it is about the hip action. The
0:28:40 > 0:28:44girls have come on so far in four years. This is another showcase for
0:28:44 > 0:28:50female sport. We didn't see it, we saw the weather take away the
0:28:50 > 0:28:53slopestyle this morning but we will see it tonight. There have been some
0:28:53 > 0:28:57delays at the ski jumping but we're going to head over there lies in the
0:28:57 > 0:29:02hope, certainly it looks as though they are about to get underway. The
0:29:02 > 0:29:11defending champion is from Germany. As we can see, flying through the
0:29:11 > 0:29:21air, we will join our commentary team.
0:29:44 > 0:29:55So, she slides into sixth place. She will get a second jump today. It's a
0:29:55 > 0:30:03Slovenian parade.
0:30:03 > 0:30:06Slovenian parade. Ursa Bogataj, but into two-year-olds. I mentioned the
0:30:06 > 0:30:12system that that people come up in, she was a bronze medallist in 2012
0:30:12 > 0:30:17at the youth and a.She was sixth in Sapporo earlier this week as well
0:30:17 > 0:30:21which is the best that she has had this season. She will have two come
0:30:21 > 0:30:27off the bar, it looks like red.A quick overview on the light system,
0:30:27 > 0:30:33it is like a traffic light. Red, yellow and green. We can look at the
0:30:33 > 0:30:38win here. Looks like it's coming up the hill at the bottom. Almost
0:30:38 > 0:30:45everywhere, swirling a little bit but it's just a little bit to week.
0:30:45 > 0:30:53There's a good headwind making its way up the hill.
0:30:56 > 0:30:59They watch the coach's flag to know they're optimising the wind. They
0:30:59 > 0:31:09have ten seconds when its green to go and it is go time for Bogataj. He
0:31:09 > 0:31:14could be on the bubble. That was a rough jump for her. Somebody who has
0:31:14 > 0:31:19almost been on the podium in the World Cup this year. So late and the
0:31:19 > 0:31:22knees come back. A deadly combination of the two. That is not
0:31:22 > 0:31:31going to get her on top of that air pressure. It will just act like a
0:31:31 > 0:31:46giant brake. Even the landing is sketchy.Pretty bang on there. 18.
0:31:46 > 0:31:53He will get a second jump though.
0:31:55 > 0:32:04He will get a second jump though. A nice look at how steep the in run is
0:32:04 > 0:32:08and the athletes, everybody else wearing parkers.Looking at the
0:32:08 > 0:32:18flags on the labding hill. Labd -- landing hill. It is not a safety
0:32:18 > 0:32:24issue, it is a fairness issue. They want to see everybody gets a fair
0:32:24 > 0:32:36chance of getting down into the bottom.
0:32:51 > 0:33:03Key Yar Hoelzl. There have been some young ski jumpers along the way.She
0:33:03 > 0:33:08will be pulled off the bar, because of the red light. Resettled. Get
0:33:08 > 0:33:15those butterflies in check.I would say most of the field are either in
0:33:15 > 0:33:24their late teens or early 20s. We have one at 33 and one at 30. The
0:33:24 > 0:33:26wind has completely died. Under normal circumstances it would be
0:33:26 > 0:33:31great. There is no safety issue. But again it is all about fairness. It
0:33:31 > 0:33:38is not fair right now to send a skier and not give them the same
0:33:38 > 0:33:46advantage given to their competitors.
0:33:46 > 0:33:54competitors.Hoelzl.They're sending her and the coach does not like it.
0:33:54 > 0:34:00Let's see if she can go for it. 99.5 metres is the jump she needs to jump
0:34:00 > 0:34:07into the lead and short of that leader line. And the hand's up in
0:34:07 > 0:34:12the air. Often they give gestures when they land. She knew what was
0:34:12 > 0:34:16going on and that the wind had died. You're at the point as a skier when
0:34:16 > 0:34:23you watch a coach flag you, you can tell if it is an enthusiastic flag,
0:34:23 > 0:34:31or, I can't believe he just sent me. I think that was the latter.She
0:34:31 > 0:34:38does move into 8th place. First round score. Distance and style
0:34:38 > 0:34:49points together, 92.2.
0:35:23 > 0:35:31Carina Vogt once we get back to see her, she is not a just a flash of
0:35:31 > 0:35:36brilliance, she is a big event ski jumper. She can be behind in the
0:35:36 > 0:35:42World Cup circuit and come to a world Championship and demolish the
0:35:42 > 0:35:47field. We are going to see a gate change here. But she is a veteran.
0:35:47 > 0:35:53She can handle this. She loves the pressure cooker. She does and I'm
0:35:53 > 0:35:57just keeping my eye on the gate. The way the gates work is the higher up
0:35:57 > 0:36:04that you start on the ski jump inrun, the faster the ski will be.
0:36:04 > 0:36:11They have gone up. So they can give the athletes that are not getting
0:36:11 > 0:36:14the favour of the wind conditions a bit more speed to make up for that
0:36:14 > 0:36:21fact. Hopefully we can see Carina put down a big jump. Olympic winner
0:36:21 > 0:36:28in 2014. She is the 2015 and 2017 world champion. She is a big event
0:36:28 > 0:36:33skier. Lots of experience doing it. So a delay like this is not
0:36:33 > 0:36:39something that I would see as a problem for her. She has nerves of
0:36:39 > 0:36:46steel. I find it interesting to see the athletes with lots of blankets
0:36:46 > 0:36:54on. I see competitions in Finland and Norway and every where in cold
0:36:54 > 0:37:01climates and I rarely see them having to cover up like this.
0:37:06 > 0:37:09having to cover up like this. Carina Vogt stretching it out a little bit.
0:37:09 > 0:37:17We will have more in just a moment.
0:37:22 > 0:37:30STUDIO: So a delay before Carina Vogt is about to jump. She is going
0:37:30 > 0:37:34to take her time. This is where experience really matters. But the
0:37:34 > 0:37:39delay could be three or four or five minutes. So we are going to take an
0:37:39 > 0:37:46opportunity to catch up on some of women's ice hockey. Because we have
0:37:46 > 0:37:52got a goals edit of Switzerland against Japan. We will be back with
0:37:52 > 0:37:59the ski jumping shortly.
0:38:09 > 0:38:15COMMENTATOR: It goes in, something of nothing of Sara Benz. A spin and
0:38:15 > 0:38:24a throw of the net and it took Fujimoto by surprise. It goes wide
0:38:24 > 0:38:33and Benz picks it up and watch Fujimoto. She does not expect this
0:38:33 > 0:38:46what -- whatsoever.Meier will walk into one. That really was too easy.
0:38:46 > 0:38:53What a pass that was and a chance and a goal! Benz' second of the
0:38:53 > 0:39:02game. Meier's pass tape to tape and Switzerland almost go coast-to-coast
0:39:02 > 0:39:09in scoring a second power play goal. Look at the presence of mind from
0:39:09 > 0:39:16Meier, firing it all the way to the blue line. She was able to sneak in
0:39:16 > 0:39:21behind the Japanese defend pers. Full stride. Gets her head over the
0:39:21 > 0:39:26blocker of Fujimoto. And the dramatic finish as she slides into
0:39:26 > 0:39:32the net as well. But what a pass.
0:39:32 > 0:39:39Muller steps in and she scores. It looked like Fujimoto had got enough
0:39:39 > 0:39:49of that. But muller too powerful.A leg kick on the finish. But watch
0:39:49 > 0:39:53this - terrific instinct. And just over powering the shot through
0:39:53 > 0:40:02Fujimoto.Considering a set place from a face-off.
0:40:11 > 0:40:24What a hit that was. Japan on the board. This is what Japan has to do
0:40:24 > 0:40:30if they want to close this gap.
0:40:33 > 0:40:42if they want to close this gap. What a play sees s Kubo going hard. That
0:40:42 > 0:40:46will do for Switzerland. Time going to run out for Japan. Switzerland
0:40:46 > 0:40:52are through. They're into the quarter-finals. Of this Winter
0:40:52 > 0:41:01Olympics. With the second successive win.
0:41:01 > 0:41:02STUDIO: A fantastic win for Switzerland.
0:41:02 > 0:41:06STUDIO: A fantastic win for Switzerland. You haven't missed
0:41:06 > 0:41:15anything in the ski jumping. The wind is still too strong.
0:41:15 > 0:41:21wind is still too strong. But Chemmy Alcott, we had one competitor who
0:41:21 > 0:41:25couldn't compete because of injury. Her does kin went to see her in
0:41:25 > 0:41:32hospital.He is the hardest working man at the Olympics.Calling her big
0:41:32 > 0:41:38foot.I know. So complimentary. You need people to still be thinking
0:41:38 > 0:41:42about her. She has a week to stay in hospital. So fantastic that Jamie
0:41:42 > 0:41:51made that time. He has another event coming up, the Big Air.Vogt is
0:41:51 > 0:41:56about to go in the ski jumping. Let's rejoin our commentators.
0:41:56 > 0:42:01about to go in the ski jumping. Let's rejoin our commentators.
0:42:01 > 0:42:09She is still flying high. Can she pull off a big jump? Not bad
0:42:09 > 0:42:17considering all that delay.Pretty good, seeing as the Green Line, the
0:42:17 > 0:42:23leader mark, she had quite a lead. While that may not be enough to get
0:42:23 > 0:42:28into the lead, it may get her into the top four. I like the way she
0:42:28 > 0:42:34does her first phase. She is a little active with her arms, but
0:42:34 > 0:42:39they come down by her side. It is important to keep your upper body
0:42:39 > 0:42:46nice and low. That was close.
0:42:50 > 0:42:55nice and low. That was close.Moves into second place. Behind Iraschhko
0:42:55 > 0:43:00Stolz.
0:43:13 > 0:43:17Avvakumova next.A bit of snow falling as well.
0:43:22 > 0:43:26The Russian champion, 2014 Olympician. She was 16th. That is a
0:43:26 > 0:43:31solid jump. That is a great jump for her and she knows it. When you have
0:43:31 > 0:43:36all that extra time to think about it and to come down and put a large
0:43:36 > 0:43:42jump like that, perfect timing, decent technique off the takeoff.
0:43:42 > 0:43:52Her flight is very quiet. Not a lot of extra movement. She could be
0:43:52 > 0:43:55challenging Iraschhko Stolz for the lead. She is on her way back. She
0:43:55 > 0:44:01had a knee injury just over a year ago, rounding into form is the
0:44:01 > 0:44:0826-year-old and she takes over first place by a shade of a point over
0:44:08 > 0:44:22Iraschhko Stolz. Four to go and one will be Yuki Ito. She is from a
0:44:22 > 0:44:31small village that is the same home time as another famous skier.
0:44:37 > 0:44:42We talk about Takanashi, but Ito is a two times silver medallist in the
0:44:42 > 0:44:46World Championships.
0:44:46 > 0:44:53Coach was not happy with the wind. Ito and that is well short of what
0:44:53 > 0:44:59we know she is capable of.Yes, she is the hill record holder on this
0:44:59 > 0:45:04hill. I think the wind wasn't there for her. The compensation points
0:45:04 > 0:45:09might help a bit, but probably not enough. She was late as well. Not
0:45:09 > 0:45:12only was the wind not helping, she wasn't helping herself with a
0:45:12 > 0:45:22takeoff like that. She does fly very nicely. Great transit.
0:45:23 > 0:45:30nicely. Great transit. Landing one foot in front of other.Almost a how
0:45:30 > 0:45:38to guide to landing.
0:45:46 > 0:45:51Sara Takanashi, the 21-year-old, enters her second Olympics, the most
0:45:51 > 0:45:55decorated women's ski jumper in history. But hasn't been able to win
0:45:55 > 0:46:03the bigger then. Yet! -- the big event. Floating in there, she may
0:46:03 > 0:46:08have the lead. What a beautiful clutched jumped from her. That was
0:46:08 > 0:46:22incredible. Right near the bottom. She's super compact. Take-off looked
0:46:22 > 0:46:26decent, timing OK, I would like to have seen a little bit more forward
0:46:26 > 0:46:32momentum. Comes in again for a great landing, no, it wasn't there. It
0:46:32 > 0:46:36depends on the angle that the judges saw it from. Maybe that was more
0:46:36 > 0:46:41like 18. She could have scored 19. I wouldn't give her that if I had seen
0:46:41 > 0:46:49that landing in slow motion. It was an angle they did not see, she moves
0:46:49 > 0:46:58into first place. A 6-point lead as well but could come into play.
0:46:59 > 0:47:02well but could come into play. Final two to go in this first round and
0:47:02 > 0:47:10Katharina Althaus. She's as fit as she's ever been, leaning over those
0:47:10 > 0:47:18skis. And she to hit the leader line. From her trial job just before
0:47:18 > 0:47:24this round, it was a great one, I was expecting things that she
0:47:24 > 0:47:31delivers, that is right down, aggressive, a little bit late of the
0:47:31 > 0:47:34take-off but she keeps her upper body very low and in these windy
0:47:34 > 0:47:38conditions, especially with headwind, it is an advantage to do
0:47:38 > 0:47:42that. It's going to be close. I think she can take over the lead
0:47:42 > 0:47:52with that job. -- with that jump. Longest jump we have seen today. And
0:47:52 > 0:47:57yes, she is in first place. Three points up on Sara Takanashi. We have
0:47:57 > 0:48:02got ourselves a competition and were just finishing up the first round.
0:48:08 > 0:48:13Here is your world number one, Maren Lundby of Norway. She would love to
0:48:13 > 0:48:20give Norway its tenth Olympic gold medal. In ski jumping. But first you
0:48:20 > 0:48:27need a big one here.Not bad.Little bit short but she said that she's
0:48:27 > 0:48:31been struggling at this venue, she tweaked her technique and it's all
0:48:31 > 0:48:33about confidence and she's looked really good all week in official
0:48:33 > 0:48:41training.She needed a 107 metre jump, this will not protect in first
0:48:41 > 0:48:44place but it will put her in contention and that's all we can ask
0:48:44 > 0:48:51for. She will be clutch in the second jump. I still think she is
0:48:51 > 0:49:01still favourite for gold. Still in the mix, it's going to be a
0:49:01 > 0:49:07barn-burner of a final round with five athletes going for gold. She is
0:49:07 > 0:49:12now in first place. We have got a competition, Maren Lundby on top,
0:49:12 > 0:49:15one more jump to go for the medals. And that's coming up after the
0:49:15 > 0:49:21break.
0:49:23 > 0:49:27Obviously we are not taking a break here because it's the BBC! Well
0:49:27 > 0:49:33done, put that away! Building and building on the women's ski jump. I
0:49:33 > 0:49:37was pleased to see Sara Takanashi put a good job in because it in
0:49:37 > 0:49:43such, the nurse -- in Sochi, the nurse had got her. It's amazing, so
0:49:43 > 0:49:49technical. It looks like you're just on the ramp and going for it but
0:49:49 > 0:49:49there's so much
0:49:49 > 0:49:52on the ramp and going for it but there's so much to consider, the
0:49:52 > 0:49:55wind, it's the one sport where a headwind helps because it picks your
0:49:55 > 0:49:59tip up and throws you further down the landing. The judges take that
0:49:59 > 0:50:03into consideration which is why the monks at the bottom are important,
0:50:03 > 0:50:10-- the marks at the bottom are important. The most sports, the
0:50:10 > 0:50:13heavier you are the better because it makes you go faster, but in ski
0:50:13 > 0:50:15jumping, the lie to you our makes a real difference. That's why ski
0:50:15 > 0:50:19jumping, the weight is heavily monitored because they don't want
0:50:19 > 0:50:23the athletes getting too low in their weight. That's such a mental
0:50:23 > 0:50:30to their health. It's quite monitored and their ski length is
0:50:30 > 0:50:36interesting, you are only allowed one which is 145% off your height.
0:50:36 > 0:50:44One kilo loss in weight, makes a difference cosmic yes, two to four
0:50:44 > 0:50:50metres difference, so it's huge.So maybe water retention, they have
0:50:50 > 0:50:54less water before the event so they don't have the weight.
0:50:54 > 0:50:59Extraordinary. We will be back with the final jumps in about ten or 15
0:50:59 > 0:51:06minutes. They take the break now so most of those ones that you saw will
0:51:06 > 0:51:13go through. This morning we saw Germany take gold in the women's by
0:51:13 > 0:51:21affluent pancake -- biathlon pancake pursuit. It's now time for the men.
0:51:21 > 0:51:25It's a German who will set off first because they have a staggered start.
0:51:25 > 0:51:29If you win the spread, it puts you in front, which I think is a bit
0:51:29 > 0:51:35unfair because you have already got advantage.Let's let them know that,
0:51:35 > 0:51:39I'm sure there's a reason for it!I think we should change the rules.
0:51:39 > 0:51:46It's still a very exciting, tissue. -- competition.
0:51:49 > 0:51:57Ahead of the start of the men's pursuit of the biathlon, the big
0:51:57 > 0:51:57story
0:51:58 > 0:52:01story yesterday, who just missed the bronze. The two men we are expecting
0:52:01 > 0:52:09to dominate other men who have won 14 out of 15 this season.
0:52:16 > 0:52:20Inexplicably, they both missed three targets at their first attempt at
0:52:20 > 0:52:28the range, instantly ending their hopes of a medal.
0:52:28 > 0:52:30hopes of a medal. Fourcade finished in eighth so he will have a deficit
0:52:30 > 0:52:35of 22 seconds over the surprise German winner. Taking an individual
0:52:35 > 0:52:41gold at his third games.
0:52:44 > 0:52:47gold at his third games. The key start is, that he will start behind
0:52:47 > 0:52:54the German, the Finn. Can either of the big men in road those deficits
0:52:54 > 0:53:04and give them -- themselves a chance of a medal? Fourcade has a better
0:53:04 > 0:53:09opportunity, aiming for a piece of history. No man has ever
0:53:09 > 0:53:19successfully defended his title. The man they all chase is Peiffer, who
0:53:19 > 0:53:25is celebrating yesterday was amazing.
0:53:28 > 0:53:37amazing. Here comes Dole, the reigning world champion. And now
0:53:37 > 0:53:42Martin Fourcade quest for redemption begins.
0:54:06 > 0:54:14They are waiting for an opportunity to join this fascinating contest. In
0:54:14 > 0:54:23a way, he has nothing to
0:54:23 > 0:54:25a way, he has nothing to lose, Thingnes Boe. If anyone can mount a
0:54:25 > 0:54:29challenge, it is the fastest ski Norwegian but he needs one of the
0:54:29 > 0:54:32best performances of his season to get anywhere close to the leaders
0:54:32 > 0:54:38come the business end of this pursuit.
0:54:40 > 0:54:46pursuit. So, Peiffer coming into the range, Fourcade leading the chasing
0:54:46 > 0:54:51group.
0:54:54 > 0:55:02group. Quite blustery conditions. Thingnes Boe has taken 12 seconds
0:55:02 > 0:55:12out of his deficit at the two K marker. Peiffer, wearing one.
0:55:12 > 0:55:15Fourcade is in shooting range to because that is where he entered the
0:55:15 > 0:55:20range. It will flash red for a miss. Doesn't matter whether they go left
0:55:20 > 0:55:25or right, the idea is to have a set of five white circles. Aiming at 4.5
0:55:25 > 0:55:38centimetres in the prone position. Watch Fourcade, he has missed.
0:55:38 > 0:55:49Peiffer has shot clean. So too, Doll, the other German. Great work
0:55:49 > 0:55:55from the German duo.
0:55:59 > 0:56:04Doll will be on to the second loop pretty quickly. How about that,
0:56:04 > 0:56:17Germany second, third and fourth. Eberhard going well. Thingnes Boe
0:56:17 > 0:56:29now in the range. Three out of five. Now four out of five.
0:56:29 > 0:56:34Now four out of five. Boe has shot clean and needed that. The top seven
0:56:34 > 0:56:43all shooting clean,. Here is the 4.5 kilometre checkpoint.
0:56:46 > 0:56:50Nothing to separate these two. Let's see what damage they have done on
0:56:50 > 0:57:00the others. Doll was 12 seconds off the pace. When they exited the
0:57:00 > 0:57:04shooting range for the first time, around about the same. What about
0:57:04 > 0:57:10Acree one?
0:57:10 > 0:57:19Acree one? 20 seconds, Boe just in front of him. -- what about
0:57:19 > 0:57:25Fourcade? Not the Boe brother he is used to chasing.
0:57:31 > 0:57:36So, this will be the second of the prone shoots. Aiming at 4.5
0:57:36 > 0:57:43centimetre target. When they are standing, which is obviously more
0:57:43 > 0:57:49difficult, the target goes up in size to 12.5 centimetres. Thingnes
0:57:49 > 0:57:54Boe has just gone through that checkpoint at 4.5 K in exactly a
0:57:54 > 0:57:58minute off the pace says he hasn't managed to close any on the second
0:57:58 > 0:58:07circuit so far. Peiffer coming through on the inside. Eberhard on
0:58:07 > 0:58:13the right. Desperate to get on the podium after missing out last night.
0:58:19 > 0:58:26They will be watching these leading two, side by side. If one makes a
0:58:26 > 0:58:29mistake, the other becomes aware and they have got to block it out. The
0:58:29 > 0:58:33psychology of these visits to the range is enormous, and it's
0:58:33 > 0:58:39blustery. These conditions are tough. Trying to lower their pulse
0:58:39 > 0:58:44and give themselves the best possible chance of shooting clean.
0:58:44 > 0:58:50Doll looks as though he's coming into the range in third position,
0:58:50 > 0:58:56Schempp fourth, watch out
0:58:56 > 0:58:58Schempp fourth, watch out four Fourcade because when he needs to,
0:58:58 > 0:59:01he can shoot very quickly. That gives you an idea how tricky the
0:59:01 > 0:59:08wind is. A few adjustments required because the conditions have changed
0:59:08 > 0:59:16since they zeroed their rifles. Peiffer and Eberhard matching each
0:59:16 > 0:59:25other, but MS for Eberhard and Peiffer shoots clean. -- a this for
0:59:25 > 0:59:38Eberhard. -- it was amiss. Fantastic German.
0:59:38 > 0:59:44Fourcade out on the course without penalty, better from the Frenchman,
0:59:44 > 0:59:55what we expect. Amiss is when it flashes red.
0:59:58 > 1:00:03They're out on the course, thick and fast. Martin Fourcade, 24 seconds
1:00:03 > 1:00:13adrift. Thingnes Boe is having a nightmare games so far. Two Mrs and
1:00:13 > 1:00:18he will definitely not getting a medal in this race either. Two more
1:00:18 > 1:00:20opportunity to come in the individual and massive sprint. He is
1:00:20 > 1:00:27a class act, we cannot write it off. But unlike Peiffer, Thingnes Boe is
1:00:27 > 1:00:29not producing his best form of the season when he needs it. The German
1:00:29 > 1:00:33is.
1:00:33 > 1:00:39Peiffer leads.
1:00:46 > 1:00:53Boe is in third. Germany one, two and four. Whose nerve will crack on
1:00:53 > 1:01:06this third visit to the range?
1:01:06 > 1:01:09Fourcade just needs to transport himself into his World Cup
1:01:09 > 1:01:15mentality. 15 appearances, 15 World Cup races this season. 15 podium
1:01:15 > 1:01:28finishes! Six victories. Seven runner up spots and twice third.
1:01:28 > 1:01:32Martin Fourcade needs to remind himself of that form if he is to
1:01:32 > 1:01:36secure a piece of Winter Olympic history by successfully defending
1:01:36 > 1:01:41this title. He has given himself an opportunity. At the beginning of
1:01:41 > 1:01:48this circuit he was 21 seconds off the pace. Now he is coming in pretty
1:01:48 > 1:01:54much dead level with Peiffer. A look of concern there on the face of the
1:01:54 > 1:01:59German coaches. Peiffer has shot clean at every stage so far. Can he
1:01:59 > 1:02:08do so now with Fourcade putting him under pressure? There is the miss -
1:02:08 > 1:02:21the first mistake from Peiffer. Samuelsson has a miss. Schempp.
1:02:21 > 1:02:26Fourcade is the only one who can get through clean and he has done it. It
1:02:26 > 1:02:33is a massive opportunity for Martin Fourcade. Everybody else feeling the
1:02:33 > 1:02:38pressure, but Fourcade's nerve held good. This is a race about
1:02:38 > 1:02:47redemption. A bit of a problem for Eric Lesser. He has already had one
1:02:47 > 1:02:55miss. Having a few issues there with his rifle.
1:02:56 > 1:03:06his rifle. Fourcade leads. Peiffer is in second. 20 seconds adrift. The
1:03:06 > 1:03:10reason that Fourcade is in the lead is that every single man with whom
1:03:10 > 1:03:18he came into the range for the third shoot missed one and he didn't. This
1:03:18 > 1:03:26is showerly Martin -- surely Martin Fourcade's race to lose. After his
1:03:26 > 1:03:30bitter disappointment in the press conference last night, this one you
1:03:30 > 1:03:36suspect would mean a great deal to him. Peiffer looks like he is in the
1:03:36 > 1:03:46lead, he is not. He is 20 seconds down on Martin Fourcade.
1:03:46 > 1:03:48down on Martin Fourcade. 500 metres separates Fourcade from victory. It
1:03:48 > 1:03:54has been superb from the Frenchman. Doll just taking a bit of a
1:03:54 > 1:04:00breather. Composing himself for the battle to come over the last 500
1:04:00 > 1:04:08metres. Driving wind, freezing cold, minus 12, probably feels more like
1:04:08 > 1:04:16minus 20. I suspect with the amount of adrenaline coursing through their
1:04:16 > 1:04:21veins, they won't be feeling that. Silver and bronze look assured,
1:04:21 > 1:04:27barring a fall, but which way around? They're miles clear of the
1:04:27 > 1:04:36rest. Samuelsson just composing himself for a big drive to the line.
1:04:36 > 1:04:42The Swedish coach roaring his young charge on. Samuelsson going for
1:04:42 > 1:04:47this, trying to put Benedikt Doll under pressure. Doll's not out of
1:04:47 > 1:04:50this. Remember, he is a world champion in his own right from last
1:04:50 > 1:04:59year. Samuelsson and Doll, but here comes Martin Fourcade - the French
1:04:59 > 1:05:04flag flying high! This is redemption for a man who was so disappointed
1:05:04 > 1:05:10with his performance yesterday. He becomes the first biathlete in
1:05:10 > 1:05:14history to successfully defend this title and how much will this mean.
1:05:14 > 1:05:19So much character, so much heart. Fourcade has delivered today where
1:05:19 > 1:05:25he couldn't yesterday and what a brilliant silver medal for Sebastian
1:05:25 > 1:05:33Samuelsson. He is only 20 years of age and he comes home behind
1:05:33 > 1:05:37Fourcade and Doll a worthy medal winner. Three different stories. I
1:05:37 > 1:05:51think there is a hint of relief in the demeanour of mar kin Fourcade.
1:05:51 > 1:05:57He has re-established himself. He is back on top, where he believes he
1:05:57 > 1:06:04belongs. STUDIO: Stewed amazing he made up
1:06:04 > 1:06:09that deficit.
1:06:09 > 1:06:13That gives France their second gold of the games. But Germany out in
1:06:13 > 1:06:15front.
1:06:20 > 1:06:24This time tomorrow we hope that Great Britain may make it on to that
1:06:24 > 1:06:29medal table, it will be all down to this woman. When I'm on the ice, I'm
1:06:29 > 1:06:38free. Speed, movement, power. On the edge, never fully in control. No one
1:06:38 > 1:06:47ever can be. Being disqualified in Sochi hurt. They have gone down. Not
1:06:47 > 1:06:54as much as the death threats and the bullying that came with it. I got
1:06:54 > 1:07:00abuse over the internet and stuff. I thought about never skating again.
1:07:00 > 1:07:09It took me two years to get out of that. It made me tougher than I ever
1:07:09 > 1:07:24thought I could be. I thought, I can do this. I will do this.
1:07:24 > 1:07:30do this. I will do this. I'm not scared!Christie aiming to become
1:07:30 > 1:07:34the first British woman to win the title.I'm ready for the spotlight.
1:07:34 > 1:07:40Christie leading the charge. It is going to be tight. Shi has done it.
1:07:40 > 1:07:44She is the world champion. Elise Christie. Here is Christie on the
1:07:44 > 1:07:53inside. It is another gold.Proving something to the world - one gold,
1:07:53 > 1:07:58two golds, three golds.The title goes to Elise Christie.When
1:07:58 > 1:08:01something breaks your heart it takes a while to love it again, but I'm
1:08:01 > 1:08:07smiling now!She is embracing the pressure and embracing the
1:08:07 > 1:08:14opportunity. This is how we hope it will work out for her tomorrow at 10
1:08:14 > 1:08:26she is in the quarter-finals of 500 metres.
1:08:27 > 1:08:35Oh, my word we were trying not to get nervous. Hazel Irving will take
1:08:35 > 1:08:40us through the rest of afternoon. Did you see the times. Laura Deas
1:08:40 > 1:08:47setting the pace. When she won her gold medal Aimee comes through. This
1:08:47 > 1:08:53time all the attention on Lizzie Yarnold. But Laura Deas second. This
1:08:53 > 1:08:56was the first run.
1:09:10 > 1:09:17The men as well, Dom Parsons doing well. Six on his first run. Makes a
1:09:17 > 1:09:20few adjustments. Second run - look at that.It is an extraordinary
1:09:20 > 1:09:27record Britain has. It was first introduced, the event, in 1928 and
1:09:27 > 1:09:35Britain got a bronze. 1948 bronze again. And then entered the Olympic
1:09:35 > 1:09:42programme in 2002 and we have gone bronze, silver, gold, gold.It is
1:09:42 > 1:09:45Britain's most successful 21st Century winter sport.We were
1:09:45 > 1:09:52talking yesterday with Aimee about the investment potential, there is
1:09:52 > 1:09:56that start push track at Bath. What would be good if you could create an
1:09:56 > 1:10:01ice house like they have in Calgary, where you have a push start, but it
1:10:01 > 1:10:07is under icy conditions all the time. Note to self and everybody
1:10:07 > 1:10:16else listening - that would be nice. Just a few million pound.
1:10:16 > 1:10:18Just a few million pound.The competition Saturdays for the men.
1:10:18 > 1:10:23Before that, you have got something to enjoy, we are going go women's
1:10:23 > 1:10:31ski jumping and this is the second round. They have Haddish yous with
1:10:31 > 1:10:37the wind. The wind has been inconsistent. We are going to hear
1:10:37 > 1:10:40from our commentators.
1:10:46 > 1:10:54TopThat will help boost the sport. She has had some struggles and some
1:10:54 > 1:11:01nasty falls. If you look her up on YouTube. If that is the sort of
1:11:01 > 1:11:04thing you like to do. The style was excellent. Should put her into the
1:11:04 > 1:11:10lead.She said she is honoured to have that role as an ambassador for
1:11:10 > 1:11:18the sport and she is the new leader.
1:11:26 > 1:11:33That is not a lawn mower you can hear. It is the Winter Games, but
1:11:33 > 1:11:40leaf blowers to get rid of the fresh snow.As if the sound of the skis
1:11:40 > 1:11:47were not enough. You have leaf blowers on either side. It can be
1:11:47 > 1:11:52distracting. Ski jumpers are not used to seeing is people standing
1:11:52 > 1:11:56there. We have situations where the leaf blowers are necessary. It is an
1:11:56 > 1:12:01adjustment. You need to be focussed right in front of you and can't be
1:12:01 > 1:12:09looking out. It is hard to do to keep that tunnel vision going. But
1:12:09 > 1:12:15again the veterans on this tour, you may have seen it before. It looks
1:12:15 > 1:12:20like the snow is coming down harder. There is a bit of tail wind at the
1:12:20 > 1:12:24takeoff. That is where we see the coaches standing. So that is a
1:12:24 > 1:12:29factor why they holding her right now and it is not because the wind
1:12:29 > 1:12:36is too strong, it is just coming in the wrong direction.
1:12:39 > 1:12:45the wrong direction.Bogataj still waiting.
1:12:48 > 1:12:51waiting.Lundby is the first round leader. The rest of the room looking
1:12:51 > 1:12:57on. I don't think they want their picture on the TV. Usually it is
1:12:57 > 1:13:02relaxed. They keep it loose and there is a lot of joking. It is the
1:13:02 > 1:13:06pressure cooker now. I know I keep saying that world. From what we saw
1:13:06 > 1:13:11in the first round and how tight it is and we could have very well five
1:13:11 > 1:13:14different women contend for the gold medal here - unbelievable
1:13:14 > 1:13:22competition. And this delay is not going to cool it down. You know
1:13:22 > 1:13:26those nerves are as high as they have ever been in that ready room.
1:13:26 > 1:13:31You can see the direction of the arrows at the bottom of hill and it
1:13:31 > 1:13:35is looking at the top. It is really light. I wouldn't say there is much
1:13:35 > 1:13:43more Nan a breath of a -- than a breath of a wind. But it is coming
1:13:43 > 1:13:48down the hill and it is important the competition is front. When the
1:13:48 > 1:13:52air comes from the front it helps the athlete. If you have wind from
1:13:52 > 1:13:56the back, it is a disadvantage and it feels like you're jumping into
1:13:56 > 1:14:01nothing and there is nothing to hold you up. And they need more speed to
1:14:01 > 1:14:07do that. Their hesitant to move the gate as well. They're going to wait
1:14:07 > 1:14:13it out and see if we can end up with a fair final 30. The interesting
1:14:13 > 1:14:20part I see is the top five athletes. It is tight. How tight? It is only
1:14:20 > 1:14:27six metres difference between the top five. That is not a lot. You're
1:14:27 > 1:14:32going to have some jockeying for position. I think the medallist,
1:14:32 > 1:14:42either one of winners, is going to come from the top five.
1:14:42 > 1:14:46come from the top five.Bogataj getting back in.The bindings are
1:14:46 > 1:14:56interesting. They only do they have a plastic piece to look in and allow
1:14:56 > 1:15:02the heel to come off the ski. They also have a second safety system,
1:15:02 > 1:15:07where they have a string that is drilled into the back of the ski as
1:15:07 > 1:15:11well as at the back of the boot and if that primary system fails, they
1:15:11 > 1:15:18have a safeguard. It won't be pretty and takes a lot of skill to land a
1:15:18 > 1:15:27jump if the binding comes off. It is very rare. It happened last year
1:15:27 > 1:15:33back in 2016. I think that those details are the things that the
1:15:33 > 1:15:37athletes have to think about before these events and everything should
1:15:37 > 1:15:50be working smoothly. We did see an equipment issue in the first round.
1:15:52 > 1:15:54She did qualify for the second jump.
1:15:54 > 1:16:06She did qualify for the second jump. We are starting back up again with
1:16:06 > 1:16:17the Slovenian, Ursa Bogataj. Slovenia is a ski jumping nation.
1:16:17 > 1:16:26The crowd want to do well. The wind is getting better.Ursa Bogataj a
1:16:26 > 1:16:31little short of the leader line, shaking her head a bit, 81 metres.
1:16:31 > 1:16:37She looked like her feet got almost ahead of her hips and that take off.
1:16:37 > 1:16:41She was quite far behind in the first phase of the flight. Yes, a
1:16:41 > 1:16:44bit of wind out there. I think it is pushing the athletes around a bit.
1:16:44 > 1:16:49We saw it a couple of jumps ago. It is tricky to navigate, especially
1:16:49 > 1:16:59when you're not expecting it.
1:16:59 > 1:17:05when you're not expecting it.So, second place for now.
1:17:05 > 1:17:10second place for now. One of the Olympic Athletes from Russia, Sofia
1:17:10 > 1:17:17Tikhonova. Silver medallist at the youth Olympic Games in 2016. 19
1:17:17 > 1:17:22years of age from St Petersburg, Russia, leaping into the night air
1:17:22 > 1:17:28at Alpensia.Big jump. That was close, I think it might be close to
1:17:28 > 1:17:34that distant she needs to take the lead. 86 metres. One of the longest
1:17:34 > 1:17:39we have seen in this second round, so great for her. The come and go
1:17:39 > 1:17:46angle. This is happening quite a bit on this hill. You can see where
1:17:46 > 1:17:49there is some strong air up top and it falls away in the second part,
1:17:49 > 1:17:53leaving the athlete to fall out the sky, it feels like the bottom falls
1:17:53 > 1:17:58out of the floor.Sofia Tikhonova into third place. In terms of some
1:17:58 > 1:18:06of the jump sizes we have seen into the 105 - 106 range in the first
1:18:06 > 1:18:11round. Sarah Hendrickson, it is good to see her here. Had to earn her
1:18:11 > 1:18:17way. She was one of the best in the world, the world champion in 2013.
1:18:17 > 1:18:21Knee injuries hurt her results in 2014 but here she could be on top.
1:18:21 > 1:18:25She only just got here by winning the American trials, she has some
1:18:25 > 1:18:34guts.Absolutely. 88 metre jump in difficult conditions. Jumping off
1:18:34 > 1:18:38into the abyss it looks like from that angle. It looks like the wind
1:18:38 > 1:18:42is coming from the left-hand side. You can see her left ski with
1:18:42 > 1:18:48further wrap and closer to her shoulder. -- further up. That should
1:18:48 > 1:18:58put her in the lead. And it does. She said it was pretty emotional,
1:18:58 > 1:19:05she fit, those trials at her home club with 7000 fans cheering her on.
1:19:05 > 1:19:11We will see where Sarah ends up today.
1:19:13 > 1:19:22today. Julia Kykkanen Finland with that unorthodox style of getting
1:19:22 > 1:19:26off. Pouncing upwards and leaning over the skis. Short of the leader
1:19:26 > 1:19:30line and her arms up. We often talk about gestures at the bottom, 84
1:19:30 > 1:19:37metres.Whenever you see that gesture in jumping I think one of
1:19:37 > 1:19:40the obvious things it is saying is, I don't know what happened there and
1:19:40 > 1:19:44at the same time it can be like, what do I have to do to get a jump
1:19:44 > 1:19:51that puts me in the lead? Power of the take off. The left ski seemed to
1:19:51 > 1:19:58be higher again. Coming in for the landing, decent, but the feet
1:19:58 > 1:20:03weren't separated quite enough in order to be perfect. Reflected in
1:20:03 > 1:20:11the judges scores.Again, distance points combined with your style
1:20:11 > 1:20:19points. Sarah Hendrickson, the big smile on the leader's circle. Here
1:20:19 > 1:20:26comes Alexandra Kustova. A busy month for her. Beginning of the
1:20:26 > 1:20:32month at Junior Championships, won is Phil silver medal in the team
1:20:32 > 1:20:38event. On the 19-year-old spreading those skis wide there.Looks like
1:20:38 > 1:20:42she is one of the tallest skiers and that can be an advantage in the air,
1:20:42 > 1:20:46but you have to be on top of the wind pressure, you can't be hanging
1:20:46 > 1:20:51behind at all because it will just eat you alive if that is the case.
1:20:51 > 1:20:55Great fly along camera view, great view of the jump. The wind seems to
1:20:55 > 1:21:02be coming from the left for the first part of the jump.
1:21:04 > 1:21:06Fifth place.
1:21:13 > 1:21:18So, Sarah Hendrickson is on top, your current leader. Again, the
1:21:18 > 1:21:22first round scores added to the final-round scores to give you that
1:21:22 > 1:21:27combined total. That will determine the medals. Ten athletes have gone,
1:21:27 > 1:21:3220 more to go, including that lead pack at the bottom. Boy, it has been
1:21:32 > 1:21:38an unbelievable evening of jumping. The conditions have been changing
1:21:38 > 1:21:44back and forth and now a little bit of snow in the air, but Sarah
1:21:44 > 1:21:47Hendrickson, for heard this is a memorable night. Through all the
1:21:47 > 1:21:53knee injuries and everything she has been through, almost having to self
1:21:53 > 1:21:58fund to get here this year.It is a challenge to get to the Olympics and
1:21:58 > 1:22:03having a look at that replay of that jump, I didn't realise how well that
1:22:03 > 1:22:09take off went. If your technique is excellent, it matters a little less.
1:22:09 > 1:22:14She rode one down the hill, a beautiful jump, so good to see here,
1:22:14 > 1:22:20a big jump like that.Good luck inside that ready room. They are
1:22:20 > 1:22:24keeping warm in there. It is a pretty frigid night. All of those
1:22:24 > 1:22:36women still to come. Manuela Malsiner, one of two sisters in this
1:22:36 > 1:22:43competition today. Family pride on the line. The wind is coming from
1:22:43 > 1:22:50behind. Might affect the gate again. Kind of fluttering in and out of
1:22:50 > 1:22:57that wind corridor. It is a set of parameters that allows for a certain
1:22:57 > 1:23:05amount with in there, but that is too long, she can't stay much more
1:23:05 > 1:23:10than 35-40 seconds and that bar, the legs feel like dead weight. The
1:23:10 > 1:23:16staff evaluating the situation. And again, if you are just joining us,
1:23:16 > 1:23:19the men and women volunteers on the right-hand side with the leaf
1:23:19 > 1:23:24blowers, trying to get that fresh snow out of the tracks on the
1:23:24 > 1:23:29in-run.Clear that this weather front has brought more than just a
1:23:29 > 1:23:33little bit of snow, but a little more uncertainty as we move on here
1:23:33 > 1:23:43in this final round.Manuela Malsiner sitting down and that gate.
1:23:43 > 1:23:50Represented Italy at two World Championships. And the athletes,
1:23:50 > 1:23:55they always wait for the coach's flag, not just the green light but
1:23:55 > 1:24:03the coach gives them the time to go and it is go time for Malsiner.
1:24:03 > 1:24:08Looks to be in a position to challenge.A great job for her, to
1:24:08 > 1:24:13come back after having to get off the bar a couple of times, moving it
1:24:13 > 1:24:17around, 89 metres is an excellent jump for her. Take off looked pretty
1:24:17 > 1:24:26good. Fantastic timing. Momentum moving forward and as soon as she
1:24:26 > 1:24:29gets on her flight position, she locks it in. Mesa locked, toes are
1:24:29 > 1:24:39being pulled, the skis are up by her shoulders. Beautiful jump for her.
1:24:39 > 1:24:46And she will be happy with that score, into the lead. 163.4.
1:24:46 > 1:24:53Malsiner takes over from Sarah Hendrickson. The youngest in the
1:24:53 > 1:25:05competition today, 16 years of age Lucile Morat.After some equipment
1:25:05 > 1:25:08delays... Lucile Morat, a little bit short of that leader line, but as I
1:25:08 > 1:25:12was saying earlier, and she's shaking her head. Still, this
1:25:12 > 1:25:16Olympic experience to be able to build on for 2022 in Beijing. So
1:25:16 > 1:25:22massive.It is massive. A decent take off, really high with the upper
1:25:22 > 1:25:26body and then tries to bring it back down again. We see her pushing
1:25:26 > 1:25:30against her skis and that causes them to move around quite a bit on
1:25:30 > 1:25:36her. Able to bring those tips back in for the landing. That is
1:25:36 > 1:25:39something to be desired. Especially if you do the right foot back when
1:25:39 > 1:25:43the judges are behind you on the right side, we don't see that
1:25:43 > 1:25:49separation very much, they might not appreciate that tell Mark landing.
1:25:54 > 1:25:59The Norwegian, Silje Opseth. 18 years of age and looking to make an
1:25:59 > 1:26:03impact that these Olympic Games, her first. And she sure does! That was
1:26:03 > 1:26:09massive!Great jump for the Norwegian. Sometimes it helps to see
1:26:09 > 1:26:12your team-mate doing so well. You can say, I train with that person
1:26:12 > 1:26:17every single day, I can see them, I know them. If they can do something
1:26:17 > 1:26:23big, I can do something big. At the moment, her team-mate provides a
1:26:23 > 1:26:29window the inspiration she needs. Puts a jump well past that green.
1:26:29 > 1:26:37Puts a clearly into the lead. What a jump.
1:26:37 > 1:26:40jump.Silje Opseth. It might be the biggest we have seen so far in this
1:26:40 > 1:26:45round, still some huge jumps to come from the leaders but she is the new
1:26:45 > 1:26:53leader, 178.2 for the youngster who won team gold at the world Junior
1:26:53 > 1:27:01Championships last month. One of the veterans in the field,
1:27:01 > 1:27:06Anastasiya Barannikova. 30 years of age. 17th after the first run. What
1:27:06 > 1:27:12does she have in the final-round? That is maybe the short as we have
1:27:12 > 1:27:15seen in this round.I don't know what happened there. Surprisingly
1:27:15 > 1:27:19short for her, surprising. We could see on the replay if there was
1:27:19 > 1:27:23something that went wrong with the take off. She's not happy, little
1:27:23 > 1:27:28shake of the head. She almost started behind... Her in-run
1:27:28 > 1:27:32position looked bad. Yes, her feet are really low compared to her hips.
1:27:32 > 1:27:36Her arms go way back. There is nothing about that jump that I like,
1:27:36 > 1:27:45just nothing. There seemed to be no oompf. That is probably some of the
1:27:45 > 1:27:50worst we have seen so far. Surprising from Barannikova, as her
1:27:50 > 1:28:04day and Olympic Games ends here. Lara Malsiner can she better her
1:28:04 > 1:28:08sister?Good wind coming up the hill, an enthusiastic flag from her
1:28:08 > 1:28:14coach.Enthusiasm is always a confidence builder. Can Lara build
1:28:14 > 1:28:20on that? She certainly does.A great jump, coach likes it. He knew as
1:28:20 > 1:28:28soon as the light turns green. Always a good sign as a skier, it
1:28:28 > 1:28:31shows there is something good going on down below that he might not be
1:28:31 > 1:28:38able to see. Along for the ride along here. 'S move all the way
1:28:38 > 1:28:43round. Great take off, great flight, stylish landing. She should get
1:28:43 > 1:28:48excellent style points for that jump. And Lara Malsiner, yes she
1:28:48 > 1:28:57does better her elder sister. Right now in first place. Not bad for the
1:28:57 > 1:29:0217-year-old.
1:29:05 > 1:29:0817-year-old.Yuka Seto, strong Japanese team competing here in
1:29:08 > 1:29:17Pyeongchang.It is her first Olympic experience. She was fifth at this
1:29:17 > 1:29:21testament in Pyeongchang. She likes the rhythm of the in-run. Almost
1:29:21 > 1:29:25gets to that line. We are seeing some big jumps.I think we will see
1:29:25 > 1:29:29bigger jumps in the second round than we saw in the first round. 89
1:29:29 > 1:29:38metres. Not quite to the Cape point, about ten metres short of it. If you
1:29:38 > 1:29:49go to the K-point, you get bonus points. If you go just before the
1:29:49 > 1:29:55K-point, they will take away two points from your score.Yuka Seto
1:29:55 > 1:30:04into third place. Lara Malsiner in the lead.
1:30:04 > 1:30:11Chiara Hoelzl Of Austria, we talk about athletes that get to train
1:30:11 > 1:30:17with the best. She gets to train with Daniela Iraschko-Stolz. Good
1:30:17 > 1:30:22speed, 87.2 kilometres an hour and it translates into some distance.
1:30:22 > 1:30:25Beautiful jump for the Austrian, that was an excellent, excellent
1:30:25 > 1:30:33ride. 95.5 metres. We are creeping closer and closer to that K-point.
1:30:33 > 1:30:37Just wait, if you think those are long jumps, stick around for the
1:30:37 > 1:30:41last 5-10 skiers because it will be huge. It will be a battle for these
1:30:41 > 1:30:47medals.
1:30:47 > 1:30:53The snow is still falling and she is clearly past that leader line. At
1:30:53 > 1:31:05least five metres past. A great job on this final round.
1:31:05 > 1:31:16on this final round.Hoelzl moves into first place.
1:31:21 > 1:31:25JacquelineCan she build on what the Austrians are building today. She is
1:31:25 > 1:31:31going to go down early. Not the distance she needed. She never had a
1:31:31 > 1:31:37whole lot of height.
1:31:44 > 1:31:57I do like the first face of Seifriedsberger's flight. Telemark
1:31:57 > 1:32:05landing. That should put her into second. It sure does. Slides her
1:32:05 > 1:32:11right in there. This is her first Olympic experience after the
1:32:11 > 1:32:25heartbreak of a knee injury kept her out of Stochy. -- Sochi.
1:32:27 > 1:32:32She is coming in with confidence. But well short of where she needs to
1:32:32 > 1:32:37be to contend for medals here. That won't cut it. That will not cut it.
1:32:37 > 1:32:4289 metres at this point in the round. And the wind is still being
1:32:42 > 1:32:52even and fair. That is not going to work. A good view from the front of
1:32:52 > 1:32:59V-position.
1:32:59 > 1:33:07V-position. Decent Telemark landing. Into third and there is the leader.
1:33:07 > 1:33:22Hoelzl of Austria. 193.2. On account of an over 100 metre jump.
1:33:25 > 1:33:28of an over 100 metre jump.Iwabuchi of Japan and look at that in run and
1:33:28 > 1:33:37the speed she is picking up. That was close. That was a close one. The
1:33:37 > 1:33:43jab knees fans liking that jump. She is having a look around. Will it be
1:33:43 > 1:33:50enough to move her into the lead? Another jump of 89 metres. Takeoff
1:33:50 > 1:33:57looked good. I like her flight position. Another nice and relaxed
1:33:57 > 1:34:08face. It is good to see in the air. Excellent V-style. Japanese coach is
1:34:08 > 1:34:18happy.She will move into second place.
1:34:18 > 1:34:23place. Five points behind Hoelzl of Austria as you get to see those
1:34:23 > 1:34:30towers. 10 to go for the medals and they're the best in the world. You
1:34:30 > 1:34:34know the nerves are quick enough here as the conditions move and
1:34:34 > 1:34:39change - wind and snow. A bit of everything in this women's final.
1:34:39 > 1:34:46This is a real test of ski jumping nerve. Good view of takeoff again.
1:34:46 > 1:34:53That is one of best takeoffs I have seen today. A beautiful takeoff.
1:34:53 > 1:34:58Smooth into the flight, transitioning into the landing.
1:34:58 > 1:35:06Slides into that Telemark right before that K-point. Good for her.
1:35:06 > 1:35:13She gets to warm up a little bit. And the victor's, winner's circle if
1:35:13 > 1:35:28she stay theres.I'm going to say those are Crystals.
1:35:30 > 1:35:34those are Crystals.Final ten it is Ramona Straub of Germany.It is a
1:35:34 > 1:35:40good one.
1:35:40 > 1:35:52good one. That is huge from Straub and she knows it.98.5 metres.
1:35:52 > 1:35:59Smooth. She does not move a muscle the whole way down and slaps in that
1:35:59 > 1:36:03Telemark landing. German coach says, yeah, that is what she needed to
1:36:03 > 1:36:08move into the lead.
1:36:17 > 1:36:29Straub goes into the lead. Yuki Ito. 23 years of age. From Japan. The
1:36:29 > 1:36:34coach gives her the wave. What does the double world silver medallist
1:36:34 > 1:36:40have? Can she launch herself up the leaderboard. She is short again. It
1:36:40 > 1:36:44is a tough day for her.It is and I noticed the wind turned around on
1:36:44 > 1:36:52her. The coach gave her a flag at the start of the 10-second period.
1:36:52 > 1:36:59The wind meter was showing tail wind right off the start. Her takeoff
1:36:59 > 1:37:03started with her hips coming up and she tried to move them forward. Once
1:37:03 > 1:37:10you do that and the first movement of your hips is in the vertical
1:37:10 > 1:37:14direction and not a 45 degree angle into the air. That is when you're
1:37:14 > 1:37:18going to run into problem bes. It looks like that affected her there.
1:37:18 > 1:37:24Not enough to put her on top in second place. She gives a little bow
1:37:24 > 1:37:35to all her fans watching.
1:37:41 > 1:37:47Seyfarth has shown she still has it today. But short in this jump. She
1:37:47 > 1:37:51looked way better in the first round. With two jumps in a major
1:37:51 > 1:37:56competition, you need to put two big jumps together. That is what is
1:37:56 > 1:38:04going to separate the winners from the loser here. Her feet were almost
1:38:04 > 1:38:10directly under her hips when she left the takeoff. The term we use to
1:38:10 > 1:38:15describe that, you're getting your feet way in front of you and you're
1:38:15 > 1:38:24punting a field goal. I think the pressure got to her on that one.
1:38:24 > 1:38:30Yes, third for her. Strong German contingent to come. Three in fact.
1:38:30 > 1:38:35Including
1:38:35 > 1:38:44Including the defending champion, Vogt.
1:38:45 > 1:38:49Vogt. 17-year-old Nika Kriznar - double gold medallist at the world
1:38:49 > 1:38:56junior Championships. She is coming in hot and flying high. Woah that is
1:38:56 > 1:39:05big.Unbelievable. What a jump for her. She had crazy good height. 104
1:39:05 > 1:39:09metres, one of the longest jumps we have seen here today. Excellent
1:39:09 > 1:39:17movement. Into the first place, transitions beautifully with her pig
1:39:17 > 1:39:23tail flapping and lands it almost down to the hillside 109 metres and
1:39:23 > 1:39:28that is the jump that you need in order to take over the lead. That
1:39:28 > 1:39:32may even put her in contention for a medal with a jump like that.Wow!
1:39:32 > 1:39:47There you go. Into first place. 223.2. As Straub will have to hop
1:39:47 > 1:39:55out of that leader's circle - make way for the teenager. Nika Kriznar
1:39:55 > 1:40:08of Slovenia. Big event skier. The defending Olympic champion. If she
1:40:08 > 1:40:15brings her best at the best events. Can she bring it here?Good height.
1:40:15 > 1:40:20She may have it. What about the style? It looked good and she had
1:40:20 > 1:40:26the air she had. The wind was from behind. They went down a gate. That
1:40:26 > 1:40:31gave her more compensation. She is nice and patient and holds back a
1:40:31 > 1:40:37little bit and waits until she gets to the second phase to drive her
1:40:37 > 1:40:44upper body forward. And stretches all the way down to the landing.
1:40:44 > 1:40:50This is going to be close. To see if Carina Vogt can take over the lead.
1:40:50 > 1:41:00Just that concentration in... She does. She is into first place. Got a
1:41:00 > 1:41:09bit of an edge, about a four-point lead now.
1:41:15 > 1:41:18Daniela Iraschko-Stolz didn't know she would be here. She had two knee
1:41:18 > 1:41:24injuries and the silver medallist in Sochi is sailing in for gold. Oh,
1:41:24 > 1:41:29she is short! That is close. It is going to be disappointing for her.
1:41:29 > 1:41:32She had the positioning to move into a medal and I don't think that will
1:41:32 > 1:41:38do it. That may move her into third place now. With four more skiers to
1:41:38 > 1:41:45go after this. Take off looked OK. She is a great flyer and keeps that
1:41:45 > 1:41:49chest so low in the first place of the flight. Wow! This is going to be
1:41:49 > 1:41:59crazy. We are going to see some wild jumps in the last four skiers.
1:41:59 > 1:42:06Iraschko-Stolz, those robotic knees, she said she hoped to wrap her
1:42:06 > 1:42:09career in the World Championships in Austria and she is crushed right
1:42:09 > 1:42:15now.
1:42:16 > 1:42:19now. Smiling in that leader's circle is the defending champion. Can she
1:42:19 > 1:42:28make it two in a row with four to do?
1:42:28 > 1:42:43do? Accuse mow have a,-- That looks good and longShe is right around
1:42:43 > 1:43:02the point. The fist pump says it. Carina may want to get on to her
1:43:02 > 1:43:06tiptoes, because Avvakumova could be on the way.Look at the
1:43:06 > 1:43:12concentration. She is so relaxed. It is almost like time stands still.
1:43:12 > 1:43:19Your eyes get as big as pizza plates and you can sail one down. It is a
1:43:19 > 1:43:24feeling and she was on top of that one. That was amazing.Like
1:43:24 > 1:43:28Iraschko-Stolz, she has been on the come back trail and she is on top!
1:43:28 > 1:43:37And can she hang on for a medal. That means we won't have a defending
1:43:37 > 1:43:43gold medallist. Carina Vogt will have to wait to see if she gets any
1:43:43 > 1:43:48medal.
1:43:48 > 1:43:54medal.Sara Takanashi the most decorated skier in history. Can she
1:43:54 > 1:44:02come up big here? She sure does. A big jump. All she had to do was go
1:44:02 > 1:44:08to K-point at 98 metres to take the lead. She did that clearly with
1:44:08 > 1:44:16103.5 metres. Could she have finally slayed the dragon and earned herself
1:44:16 > 1:44:21an Olympic gold? We know she has definitely earned a medal of some
1:44:21 > 1:44:30colour. What will it be?Fourth in Sochi. Hasn't won a gold medal at
1:44:30 > 1:44:39the World Championships. And for every win she has on the World Cup
1:44:39 > 1:44:47circuit - 53 of them - she want s to show she can turn up when it counts.
1:44:47 > 1:44:55You bet she does. A big lead. The Japanese fans are going wild. Look
1:44:55 > 1:45:05at the emotion from her, can she hang on with two to go?
1:45:07 > 1:45:20How is this for some drama? A bit of a holed up. After you watched
1:45:20 > 1:45:25Takanashi slay this hill.It looks like the wind has picked up quite a
1:45:25 > 1:45:29bit so they are going to move her down one gate. This will give her
1:45:29 > 1:45:34some
1:45:35 > 1:45:44some bonus points. Gone down to gate number 23, just over 86 metres of
1:45:44 > 1:45:49in-run track. The athletes travelling roughly 85 kilometres an
1:45:49 > 1:45:55hour down this in-run before they hit the take-off.Takanashi in the
1:45:55 > 1:45:58leader's circle. Katharina Althaus up top, knowing what she needs to do
1:45:58 > 1:46:10to challenge for the gold medal. Althaus floating, reaching for every
1:46:10 > 1:46:14metre, I think she's done it.I think she's done it! What a jump
1:46:14 > 1:46:22under such pressure. 106 metres.The record is 109 metres. The women are
1:46:22 > 1:46:30bringing it in the final round. Great view of the take off here,
1:46:30 > 1:46:40excellent take off, nice and low of the body, Ansbach, palms back.
1:46:40 > 1:46:42the body, Ansbach, palms back. -- arms back. It is going to be close,
1:46:42 > 1:46:48going to be close...
1:46:48 > 1:46:51going to be close... Takanashi in the leader's circle knows she has a
1:46:51 > 1:46:56medal, but what will it be?Tasha Naki jumped for the gold and it
1:46:56 > 1:47:06looked good until Althaus came down. And floated down, and she is on top.
1:47:06 > 1:47:10Katharina Althaus on gold medal position with one to go. She bumps
1:47:10 > 1:47:18her team-mate Carina Vogt from the lead above Matt circle. You have to
1:47:18 > 1:47:22feel for Takanashi. She will land a medal, it might not be the one she
1:47:22 > 1:47:27wanted, but she will have to see what colour it will be because Maren
1:47:27 > 1:47:35Lundby, number one in the world... Going for the gold, leaning over the
1:47:35 > 1:47:42skis. Can she get there? She does, it's hers!Wow, what a jump from
1:47:42 > 1:47:49her! Unbelievable, 110 metres, one metre off the hill record. I don't
1:47:49 > 1:47:55believe it! I don't believe it! Maren Lundby has claimed Norway's
1:47:55 > 1:48:01tenth gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games, but the first ever in
1:48:01 > 1:48:07women's ski jumping and she is ecstatic.Awesome, just perfect! She
1:48:07 > 1:48:11has been on fire this season. I picked her to win this event. I
1:48:11 > 1:48:16didn't know if it could happen after the first round. There were so many
1:48:16 > 1:48:21competitors that were close to her but look at how far she goes. That
1:48:21 > 1:48:26is crazy! That is to the bottom, you can't go much further than that. The
1:48:26 > 1:48:34Norwegian coach is ecstatic. Great for them. What a win for Norway.
1:48:34 > 1:48:39Pointing to the sky, the number one. She was laser focused through the
1:48:39 > 1:48:47snow. She could see the gold medal right ahead of her and it is hers.
1:48:47 > 1:48:51STUDIO: Congratulations to Maren Lundby, an absolute clutch
1:48:51 > 1:48:56performance. She has been doing it all season. In fact, she has won six
1:48:56 > 1:49:01of the last seven World Cup contests and it is confirmation, Norway's
1:49:01 > 1:49:07first-ever gold in the women's, only the second time it has been run.
1:49:07 > 1:49:13They have equalled Finland's ten, so some Scandinavian bragging rights
1:49:13 > 1:49:18will go begging over the next few days in the women's hill and team
1:49:18 > 1:49:23competitions. Great to see Takanashi finally getting that medal. She
1:49:23 > 1:49:28thought it was going to be gold but she will settle for the bronze on
1:49:28 > 1:49:31this occasion. Well, we are past the witching hour
1:49:31 > 1:49:35this occasion. Well, we are past the witching hour and it has just gone
1:49:35 > 1:49:38midnight, ten to midnight in Korea right now. Once again, this ski
1:49:38 > 1:49:42jumping those late. It was possibly going to be one of the most guilt
1:49:42 > 1:49:45edged day of the games with eight medals up for grabs per in the end
1:49:45 > 1:49:49only seven were settled because that he might have heard earlier, some
1:49:49 > 1:49:53adverse weather conditions in Korea, some howling winds once again and
1:49:53 > 1:49:56that has affected the Alpine programme. We were due to see one of
1:49:56 > 1:50:01the stars in waiting of the games, Michaela Shiffrin of the USA but
1:50:01 > 1:50:04that has been postponed until Thursday. And we do have a bumper
1:50:04 > 1:50:09Alpine day in prospect on Thursday, because the men's downhill is also
1:50:09 > 1:50:14rescheduled for that day. So get your bindings looked at. Ready for a
1:50:14 > 1:50:18big one on Thursday. We are going to calm things down just a little bit
1:50:18 > 1:50:22on a slow burning tension for you as we head indoors now. Reaching the
1:50:22 > 1:50:27sharp end of the new event in curling, the mixed team doubles.
1:50:27 > 1:50:34This one, one man, one woman, eight ends instead of ten, eight stones
1:50:34 > 1:50:38instead of ten. We are at the semifinal stage right now and it is
1:50:38 > 1:50:43Norway up against Canada for a place in the final tomorrow. So there is a
1:50:43 > 1:50:49guaranteed silver medal at least. This one is very tight. Canada 5-4
1:50:49 > 1:50:55ahead going into the penultimate end, the seventh end watched by
1:50:55 > 1:50:58Jackie Lockhart and Steve Cram.
1:50:58 > 1:50:58end, the seventh end watched by Jackie Lockhart and Steve Cram.
1:50:58 > 1:51:02COMMENTATOR: Winners of this semi-going to the final to contest
1:51:02 > 1:51:10the gold medal. The losers into the bronze medal match, which will be
1:51:10 > 1:51:21played tomorrow morning, local time, the same time back home. Her
1:51:21 > 1:51:25accuracy has just dropped a little bit, it was 80% but now in the 70s.
1:51:25 > 1:51:34She has played pretty well. Just that one end where they gave it up
1:51:34 > 1:51:39to Canada.Through her stone a little tight. Thought we might have
1:51:39 > 1:51:45seen the power play happen in this end but Canada chosen not to play it
1:51:45 > 1:51:53here.Which is interesting... Because they won't have the
1:51:53 > 1:51:58opportunity, you can't use it in an extra end...Unless they do not
1:51:58 > 1:52:05score here. Interesting to see how their strategy goes on this one.
1:52:05 > 1:52:14Kaitlyn Lawes needs to be right up with this, don't want to bounce of
1:52:14 > 1:52:19anything. Looking for a freeze. Maybe they don't like the whole
1:52:19 > 1:52:23power play scenario. Preferred to play this normal game.A lovely
1:52:23 > 1:52:31shot. I thought they were going to catch the yellow and chip it out but
1:52:31 > 1:52:37that was very well played. Could she be coming into form in the last two
1:52:37 > 1:52:41ends?That will give her a bit of confidence back if nothing else,
1:52:41 > 1:52:45that previous end and that nice shot there. You can see the clock ticking
1:52:45 > 1:52:50away in the background, as well. Both teams with 22 minutes total of
1:52:50 > 1:52:54thinking time, the time between the shots they played. Plenty of time
1:52:54 > 1:53:03left for both teams.
1:53:06 > 1:53:13A pretty good shot, as well.Yes. Just tapping it a little closer.You
1:53:13 > 1:53:17don't always have to go for the shot right away when you are playing this
1:53:17 > 1:53:20game, it is about the angles and setting things up for your next
1:53:20 > 1:53:22shot.
1:53:26 > 1:53:29A very energetic game, this mixed doubles. You have to be physically
1:53:29 > 1:53:34fit. There is a lot of sweeping, and often just one sweeper and then you
1:53:34 > 1:53:37have to have your heart rate dropped and recover very quickly to sit down
1:53:37 > 1:53:47and be able to throw a finessed and well delivered stone.Norway doing a
1:53:47 > 1:53:54good job of not giving John Morris too many opportunities for those big
1:53:54 > 1:54:01shots that he so likes. So just having to draw in here again. All
1:54:01 > 1:54:08that, it's good.Both of them sound happy with this.He doesn't want to
1:54:08 > 1:54:14bounce off it, just wants to stop. Just a little...
1:54:17 > 1:54:21It's a good stone.
1:54:25 > 1:54:29I like listening to the Canadians because they are always chatting,
1:54:29 > 1:54:32always speaking, always communicating.
1:54:40 > 1:54:50So, Magnus Nedregotten will continue where he left off last time.Just
1:54:50 > 1:54:55going to throw a clockwise rotation stone down here. It should turn
1:54:55 > 1:55:01right towards the centre of the house. Hopefully get a little tap on
1:55:01 > 1:55:06his yellows but he will want a straight tap, and the top face of
1:55:06 > 1:55:12the yellow. This needs to curl.We see it curling a lot at the end but
1:55:12 > 1:55:21this hasn't got enough of it.A good bad one, you know what I mean?What
1:55:21 > 1:55:28he has done, he's edged his. In a bit.That's what I meant.That's
1:55:28 > 1:55:33harder for Canada to remove it.A little bit of a result there.I
1:55:33 > 1:55:38don't think it helps us leaving it there.OK, here we go for another
1:55:38 > 1:55:47one of John's.He always seems to want to throw the big Stone. I think
1:55:47 > 1:55:49it's a smart move. I remember him saying in the first match when they
1:55:49 > 1:55:54lost in a way, he didn't feel like they'd played their own game, their
1:55:54 > 1:56:00natural game. Maybe overthinking mixed doubles.Yes. I mean, if he
1:56:00 > 1:56:05catches as much as he can see, even just half of the red stone, it
1:56:05 > 1:56:09should catch the yellow in the house. I think he is hoping to get
1:56:09 > 1:56:16the back yellow as well. His accuracy has been very good.He can
1:56:16 > 1:56:28see half of this red stone. He didn't catch... So close. Good shot,
1:56:28 > 1:56:37though, from John Morris. Just watch this.Oooh.Did catch it but not
1:56:37 > 1:56:45enough, just a glancing blow. Moved it half an inch, no more. This is
1:56:45 > 1:56:53becoming crucial now. The pub
1:56:53 > 1:56:55becoming crucial now. The pub -- penultimate end, leading by one, no
1:56:55 > 1:57:03mistakes now.These stones are all in a line, so...Can they use that
1:57:03 > 1:57:09to come across? Nudge that Canadian back one out? He's not going to go
1:57:09 > 1:57:16for the actual shot, the red one, he will use the back one to the back
1:57:16 > 1:57:21red and if he stays stays where it is almost a back and it makes it
1:57:21 > 1:57:28harder for Canada to throw a big shot to get a high school here. --
1:57:28 > 1:57:35high score here.
1:57:36 > 1:57:42So again, no room for error here. Magnus Nedregotten using his own
1:57:42 > 1:57:55stone. Right on the face, right on the nose. Well, that is a mistake.
1:57:55 > 1:58:01Brian Gray there in the crowd, coaching the Finnish team. He is a
1:58:01 > 1:58:07Scottish lad.
1:58:07 > 1:58:12Ideally, this. What they have to be very careful of
1:58:12 > 1:58:19here, coming up and that they don't leave it at an angle that Norway can
1:58:19 > 1:58:24remove two of them.I just don't know where it's going to be a good
1:58:24 > 1:58:31spot for us. Back here? OK? That's another option, I think. What
1:58:31 > 1:58:38he doesn't want to do is almost hit and just leave a mess, because then
1:58:38 > 1:58:43nor Norway can come up and tap them back a bit and then the Reds can
1:58:43 > 1:58:50become Canada's enemy because they can't get the yellow out.Hang on...
1:58:57 > 1:59:03There's the clock ticking away. Canada with just four minutes. One
1:59:03 > 1:59:08more end to come, of course, so they are getting a little tight on time.
1:59:08 > 1:59:17They are, properly need about three minutes an end. That means rushed
1:59:17 > 1:59:24shots when you don't want to be rushing. The draw from John Morris.
1:59:24 > 1:59:28Try and make sure they score well here. One more stone for Norway
1:59:28 > 1:59:34after this. Then Kaitlyn Lawes will have the hammer for the last own.
1:59:34 > 1:59:38It's coming in, looks pretty good at this point but got to work it,
1:59:38 > 1:59:45though.He liked the weight and it was all the way out there but the
1:59:45 > 1:59:52minute they weight comes off...
1:59:52 > 1:59:56So they are going to try and play the shot that he didn't manage to
1:59:56 > 2:00:02make last time. I think, is that right?Yes, just going to try and
2:00:02 > 2:00:07catch her own. She hasn't got a lot of room to play with but has the
2:00:07 > 2:00:11opportunity of out counting that back red, if she just hits and flops
2:00:11 > 2:00:18in, touching the edge of the one foot Circle.Again, we know Kaitlyn
2:00:18 > 2:00:23Lawes. She has certainly been better in the previous end, beginning of
2:00:23 > 2:00:30this end, but the way she has been playing, the more pressure Kristin
2:00:30 > 2:00:33Skaslien can apply... Here is Kaitlyn Lawes, a little bite of the
2:00:33 > 2:00:42lip.She has been very good at these rules, it's just these hip shots she
2:00:42 > 2:00:44has to execute.Steadying herself.
2:00:50 > 2:00:57Just going to try to head to their own stone, the yellow, let it roll
2:00:57 > 2:01:03across. That's not bad. Again catching it a little on the nose.
2:01:03 > 2:01:13Not there for a second shot either. Frustration for the Norwegians.
2:01:13 > 2:01:18Three is here and you would think that is it. There is another end and
2:01:18 > 2:01:22they will certainly play, you can get for in and end but it's a big
2:01:22 > 2:01:35ask for Norway. So close and she knows it.
2:01:35 > 2:01:39Still a difficult shot because if she'd throws it out at all she could
2:01:39 > 2:01:45get the right angle into a back red and give up once a year. So on the
2:01:45 > 2:01:52nose is what she is looking for this is a key shot here she is up right
2:01:52 > 2:02:03away. .
2:02:03 > 2:02:12Is she passed? I think she is. She's done enough! She has done enough.
2:02:12 > 2:02:17Three for Canada, that is going to make a mountain it looks ominous for
2:02:17 > 2:02:27Norway to climb. Only one end left. For shots in the mac now. Little
2:02:27 > 2:02:32mistake, slight
2:02:33 > 2:02:43mistake, slight mistake and Kaitlyn Lawes this time taking full
2:02:43 > 2:02:50advantage.
2:02:50 > 2:02:56Well done. You could see the passion they had, it was well swept.Just
2:02:56 > 2:03:06nudged it didn't it?The relief on her face there.STUDIO: Relief but
2:03:06 > 2:03:10shortly after that's joy as well because that three in the seventh
2:03:10 > 2:03:14was the foundation of the victory in the eighth and final end, too much
2:03:14 > 2:03:18for the Norwegians to do having conceded the three and that is far
2:03:18 > 2:03:23too much now, it is all over, Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris into
2:03:23 > 2:03:27the inaugural final of the curling mixed doubles event. Congratulations
2:03:27 > 2:03:32to them, they will either play the team from Switzerland or from Russia
2:03:32 > 2:03:37who will face off in the other semifinal, Switzerland six time
2:03:37 > 2:03:40world champions, the Russians with the world title under their belt as
2:03:40 > 2:03:41well.
2:03:45 > 2:03:52We are staying on the ice for figure skating and we are joined by
2:03:52 > 2:03:55Christopher Dean, multiple world champion and one half of the
2:03:55 > 2:04:02greatest power couple of the 80s, Torvill and Dean, or if you are one
2:04:02 > 2:04:08of the younger generation he is a head judge on dancing on ice. That
2:04:08 > 2:04:12was a long speech!It's a big intro, you have had a long career. It's
2:04:12 > 2:04:15great to have you and I know you have a huge creative input in many
2:04:15 > 2:04:20of the teams who are out here just now, how does it feel to be involved
2:04:20 > 2:04:26even from nine hours flight away?I love working with the top teams
2:04:26 > 2:04:30around the world. This past season I have been fortunate to work with the
2:04:30 > 2:04:38French and the Americans, and the English team as well. I keep my foot
2:04:38 > 2:04:45on the ice with the choreography but I'm not one for being on the
2:04:45 > 2:04:49sidelines. I just like doing the choreography and sending them off.
2:04:49 > 2:04:54I'm sure you will be watching very interested lay in all we have got,
2:04:54 > 2:05:01the team event coming up. Before we start off, it was the 12th of
2:05:01 > 2:05:06February 1984, it was a significant date because you were performing in
2:05:06 > 2:05:11what was the original dance, the precursor to Bolero, this was the
2:05:11 > 2:05:20paso doble and we want you to see it again. You can imagine Craig Revel
2:05:20 > 2:05:24Horwood parring on your lines when we watch this one. Enjoy.
2:05:33 > 2:05:38COMMENTATOR: So, the moment we have been waiting for.
2:05:38 > 2:05:38COMMENTATOR: So, the moment we have been waiting for. Certainly and the
2:05:38 > 2:05:42music.
2:08:59 > 2:09:03APPLAUSE
2:09:03 > 2:09:11STUDIO: 34 years ago today. I know Bolero became the indelible
2:09:11 > 2:09:16trademark, but how fondly do you remember that routine?People love
2:09:16 > 2:09:20that routine, they say they love Bolero but they also remember the
2:09:20 > 2:09:25paso doble as well because it's so characteristic, we spent a lot of
2:09:25 > 2:09:30time getting the shapes and the look and trying to put the image of the
2:09:30 > 2:09:34matador, putting it technically on the ice for the judges. It strikes
2:09:34 > 2:09:37me that had Strictly Come Dancing been a thing back then we might have
2:09:37 > 2:09:44appreciated more of your dancing, the skating itself. You paid a huge
2:09:44 > 2:09:51amount of attention to images and things?Yeah, we really researched
2:09:51 > 2:09:57the topic, the paso doble, where it's coming from, the whole point is
2:09:57 > 2:10:01the girl in this case was the cake, hence the dress, the design, the
2:10:01 > 2:10:11whole setup. She was my cape. Those are the images we saw on the posters
2:10:11 > 2:10:16and what we would see on the TV. We tried to incorporate that into the
2:10:16 > 2:10:21dance.It is hard for people who were not part of that generation to
2:10:21 > 2:10:27realise how big you and Jayne where in the 80s, as I said earlier, the
2:10:27 > 2:10:31kind of ultimate power duo. Is there a part of you that misses the
2:10:31 > 2:10:37frenzy? It was a frenzy for a long time.It was a frenzy but I don't
2:10:37 > 2:10:44think it is what it is now, given the social media surrounding
2:10:44 > 2:10:49everyone. We were able to put ourselves in a bubble. Four TV
2:10:49 > 2:10:52channels and a few newspapers, we would isolate ourselves and go off
2:10:52 > 2:10:56and train and not know what was going on in the world. But when we
2:10:56 > 2:11:04came home from the Olympics we realised the support we had got, we
2:11:04 > 2:11:07had gone around the city of Nottingham and everyone came out
2:11:07 > 2:11:11onto the streets. It was a huge parade, the city centre full of
2:11:11 > 2:11:17people. It's not until you come home you realise how many people had been
2:11:17 > 2:11:20supporting you and been behind you because when you are at their it's
2:11:20 > 2:11:25just you and the other athletes. You're so focused on why you are
2:11:25 > 2:11:32there and the competition and you don't really realise the extent of
2:11:32 > 2:11:35the viewing public. There are so many other questions I would love to
2:11:35 > 2:11:47ask and I know everyone at home will want to as well, hashtag asked Chris
2:11:47 > 2:11:55-- ask Chris. How many times have you heard O? As part of you still
2:11:55 > 2:12:00twitch when you hear the opening strings? When we finished we always
2:12:00 > 2:12:04moved onto the next thing, we were ready to put it away and start
2:12:04 > 2:12:08something new. But as we turned professional and started touring
2:12:08 > 2:12:11around the world we realised it was never going to happen because people
2:12:11 > 2:12:20wanted to see Bolero. Over the years it's come really close to our hearts
2:12:20 > 2:12:25and very affectionate. Often I will be at home listening on the radio
2:12:25 > 2:12:31and Bolero comes on.And you immediately start doing that?I
2:12:31 > 2:12:37dropped to my knees!Incredible. In the meantime some fun to stick
2:12:37 > 2:12:43figure skating, the team competition is one of the new events which only
2:12:43 > 2:12:47started in Sochi and it's a combination of all the different
2:12:47 > 2:12:52disciplines each skate earns up to a maximum of ten points. These were
2:12:52 > 2:12:58the standings after five events yesterday. A powerful Canadian team
2:12:58 > 2:13:03six points ahead of the defending champions. The United States with a
2:13:03 > 2:13:07fight on their hands because it seems if they want another bronze as
2:13:07 > 2:13:13they got in Sochi they would have that one point lead over the
2:13:13 > 2:13:18Italians. Japan is the only other nation qualified to skate in the
2:13:18 > 2:13:21last three disciplines, the long programmes, the long free programmes
2:13:21 > 2:13:27in the men's, women's and ice dance disciplines. Settle back and soak
2:13:27 > 2:13:35this up with Robin Cousins and Katherine Downes.
2:13:36 > 2:13:39The Russian national champion representing the Olympic Athletes
2:13:39 > 2:13:48from Russia. He has three quadruple jumps planned. Shall we see how he
2:13:48 > 2:13:57manages?
2:13:57 > 2:14:01manages?He skates to Elvis Presley because he says he feels a bit like
2:14:01 > 2:14:04Elvis Presley. I read that in an interview.
2:14:18 > 2:14:25He is opening with a quadruple lutes which is the most difficult of the
2:14:25 > 2:14:30quadruple jumps. When it works it is exquisite. When it doesn't it's not
2:14:30 > 2:14:35great. And that was not a great one there. Made the rotation so he will
2:14:35 > 2:14:41get given credit for it. Wanted the landing on a running edge, not on
2:14:41 > 2:14:43the backside.
2:14:46 > 2:14:52Second quadruple.
2:14:52 > 2:15:02Did not make the rotation there. That will definitely be an by in the
2:15:02 > 2:15:07box. The boxes upon the left of your screen for each element. Red means
2:15:07 > 2:15:17review, yellow means review, green means accepted. Triple axel, double.
2:15:17 > 2:15:23Watch the box go green. The technical panel deciding which
2:15:23 > 2:15:32elements are clean and which are to be reviewed.
2:16:25 > 2:16:31Can he now composed himself and prepare and deliver another Queen
2:16:31 > 2:16:40quadruple jump.
2:16:41 > 2:16:46quadruple jump. Quadruple toe loop is planned.
2:16:51 > 2:16:59is planned. Yes, he can. Not the best landing so the grade of
2:16:59 > 2:17:04execution points will probably be minors but he gets credit for the
2:17:04 > 2:17:09element.
2:17:10 > 2:17:16element. Lovely light and easy triple axle.
2:17:20 > 2:17:27triple axle. Big jumping element that he absolutely needs to nail.
2:17:27 > 2:17:32Triple combination jumps.
2:18:49 > 2:18:56The Olympic Athletes From Russia in silver medal position for now. They
2:18:56 > 2:19:02would have wanted to see that on point. But as we saw in the short
2:19:02 > 2:19:07programme they did not quite nail the courts. He's very much on or
2:19:07 > 2:19:12nothing skater.
2:19:14 > 2:19:17nothing skater.Well down on his season 's best which is up around
2:19:17 > 2:19:23180. A pat on the shoulder for Mikhail Kolyada. The whole team I
2:19:23 > 2:19:32think nobody could have done better. -- know that he could have done
2:19:32 > 2:19:37better. A rather controversial entry, Adam Rippon, into the US team
2:19:37 > 2:19:42as he came fourth in the national championships but the selectors
2:19:42 > 2:19:50decided he was the man to skate for them in the Olympic Games. Let's see
2:19:50 > 2:20:01if he can put the controversy behind him.
2:20:06 > 2:20:27The music is The Arrival of the Birds. Adam will open
2:20:27 > 2:20:37Birds. Adam will open with double axle. Will he go for the quadruple
2:20:37 > 2:20:42lutz? Triple loop.
2:22:14 > 2:22:24And that is the first of two planned triple axle moves.
2:22:32 > 2:22:48And the second triple axle. Got it.
2:22:58 > 2:23:07Triple flip and triple toe loop. Adam not having that speed across
2:23:07 > 2:23:14the ice but he is making those jumps happen.
2:23:27 > 2:23:37Second triple lutz.
2:24:20 > 2:24:27You do not see many of the men doing that laid-back position but Adam is
2:24:27 > 2:24:35doing it exquisitely. Along with all the other positions in his spin.
2:24:35 > 2:24:42Thrilling.He is happy. I think he enjoyed his first Olympic
2:24:42 > 2:24:53experience. He shied away from doing a couple of the quads. It was on the
2:24:53 > 2:25:03list here, he did not do it in the US Championships. That first axle,
2:25:03 > 2:25:07he will wipe the floor with the Italians with that Queen
2:25:07 > 2:25:18performance. I thought it was beautiful.172. And he is going
2:25:18 > 2:25:24ahead of Mafia or so of Italy. Team USA into the bronze medal position
2:25:24 > 2:25:34for now.
2:25:35 > 2:25:43-- Matteo Rizzo.
2:25:45 > 2:25:59Winner of team and individual silver in Sochi.
2:26:20 > 2:26:27Patrick Chan has planned to quadruple jumps. There is the first
2:26:27 > 2:26:34one, beautiful, with a triple toe loop in combination. The second
2:26:34 > 2:26:41quadruple is a repeat and he is allowed one of those. That is going
2:26:41 > 2:26:47to come right now.
2:26:49 > 2:26:59to come right now. Exquisite, absolutely glorious.
2:27:00 > 2:27:13That should have been a triple axle in a combination.
2:27:46 > 2:27:58That is better, triple lutz loop.
2:28:17 > 2:28:26Second triple axle. He made the location but not the landing. --
2:28:26 > 2:28:36rotation.
2:28:41 > 2:28:48Two hands down on the triple loop.
2:29:17 > 2:29:24Triple flip. Added a double toe loop, he needs to try to add some
2:29:24 > 2:29:29point.
2:30:31 > 2:30:38CHEERING APPLAUSE
2:30:38 > 2:30:41The Patrick Chan we know and love has not yet turned up at these
2:30:41 > 2:30:46games.
2:30:47 > 2:30:49games. Mistakes there, and characteristic.He has not had a
2:30:49 > 2:30:57great season. He is up in the 170's 180's if he is on form. I thought
2:30:57 > 2:31:01after the knees of those opening jumps and the combination that this
2:31:01 > 2:31:06was his moment and he would be exquisite. But I don't know at what
2:31:06 > 2:31:14point it just slightly falls off. They have given him a massive new
2:31:14 > 2:31:23season 's best, his previous was a after a difficult season. That is a
2:31:23 > 2:31:32massive new season 's best. So let's look at the standings. Patrick Chan
2:31:32 > 2:31:35three-time world champion leading the way and takes the ten points for
2:31:35 > 2:31:43Canada. Adam Rippon, what a skate from him at his first Olympics in
2:31:43 > 2:31:45third.
2:31:49 > 2:31:55This is how the teams standings are shaping up. Canada out in front,
2:31:55 > 2:31:58extending the lead to seven points ahead of the Olympic Athletes from
2:31:58 > 2:32:00Russia.
2:32:07 > 2:32:13The ladies and the ice dancers still to come.
2:32:20 > 2:32:28Mirai Nagasu for the USA who are currently in bronze medal position.
2:32:48 > 2:32:55She has got it, triple axel to open the programme. The music of Miss
2:32:55 > 2:33:05Saigon. The green box ticked.
2:33:05 > 2:33:09Saigon. The green box ticked. Triple flip, triple toe loop. Did very well
2:33:09 > 2:33:16to save that but save it she did.
2:33:16 > 2:33:22And be triple
2:34:27 > 2:34:44double axel, triple toe loop, double toe lip. -- loop.
2:34:52 > 2:35:00Triple Lutz double toe loop.
2:35:03 > 2:35:06Triple flip.
2:36:00 > 2:36:12One triple jump left. Triple loop.
2:36:19 > 2:36:23And she's got that!
2:36:31 > 2:36:35CHEERING APPLAUSE
2:36:35 > 2:36:43Or my goodness me.Team a USA are on their feet.
2:36:43 > 2:36:48their feet. There is the triple flip, triple toe loop. Did very well
2:36:48 > 2:36:56to hold that on.
2:36:56 > 2:37:01to hold that on.The new season is best for Mirai Nagasu of the USA.
2:37:01 > 2:37:07137.5 three. Top of the standings for now.
2:37:12 > 2:37:18And is now the Canadians looking to consolidate the gold medal position
2:37:18 > 2:37:24way out in front. Seven points ahead of the rest of the field, a World
2:37:24 > 2:37:27Championship bronze medallist, her second Olympics. She was the
2:37:27 > 2:37:33youngest member of team Canada in Sochi, just 16 years old, here she
2:37:33 > 2:37:37is four years later with a lot more experience under her belt. She is a
2:37:37 > 2:37:45powerful skater. She is also the current Canadian number one, the
2:37:45 > 2:37:52national champion. She was two seasons ago as well. Last season it
2:37:52 > 2:38:09was her team-mate opens up with the triple toe lip, triple toe loop.
2:38:22 > 2:38:31Nice, triple lutz. Terrific bounce and elevation on the take-off of her
2:38:31 > 2:38:36jumps. Has had difficulty controlling it in the past but the
2:38:36 > 2:38:47last couple of seasons good consistency. Triple flip.
2:39:42 > 2:39:49Second triple lutz in combination with two double toe loops, better
2:39:49 > 2:39:56and stronger than the first.
2:39:58 > 2:40:06And there is the triple loop.
2:40:36 > 2:40:44Final jumping pass. Triple salchow and a double axel, there is the
2:40:44 > 2:40:47salchow and there is the double axel.
2:41:44 > 2:41:46CHEERING APPLAUSE
2:41:46 > 2:41:51That's it, that's got to be gold for Canada! Clean and strong from
2:41:51 > 2:41:58Gabrielle Daleman. With the world champions to come in the ice dancing
2:41:58 > 2:42:04it's now only a formality, just give them the gold! CHUCKLES
2:42:04 > 2:42:08She wanted to lay down a gauntlet and I think she did that. I think
2:42:08 > 2:42:12you will see a new season 's best and you are probably correct, team
2:42:12 > 2:42:17Canada will still be in the lead.I am going early! It's a massive
2:42:17 > 2:42:26season 's best.
2:42:33 > 2:42:41Alina Zagitova 15 years old, the Prodigy. Beat the double world
2:42:41 > 2:42:45champion to win the European title just a few weeks ago. She is
2:42:45 > 2:42:52something else.
2:44:56 > 2:45:00In for the first jumping pass and the most difficult combination we
2:45:00 > 2:45:11will see in the ladies event, triple lutz, triple loop combination.
2:45:18 > 2:45:26Double axle. Triple toe loop.
2:45:29 > 2:45:40Here is the triple flip, double toe, double loop combination.
2:46:00 > 2:46:05Triple lutz.
2:46:18 > 2:46:34And another triple flip. Last jump is the axle.
2:46:47 > 2:46:58Alina Zagitova you little firecracker! What a talent.
2:46:58 > 2:47:01firecracker! What a talent. She is 15 but there is such maturity in the
2:47:01 > 2:47:09choreography and in the way that she moves. It is a new season 's best
2:47:09 > 2:47:17for the 15-year-old Alina Zagitova. Her first Olympics. 158. Fantastic
2:47:17 > 2:47:24final performance and takes the ten points for the Olympic Athletes From
2:47:24 > 2:47:34Russia. USA in second and Canada in third with Gabrielle Daleman. But
2:47:34 > 2:47:38that is unlikely to affect the Canadian team standings, bear out in
2:47:38 > 2:47:44front. Just five points clear now so their lead cut back to five points
2:47:44 > 2:47:50by the Olympic Athletes From Russia. But Canada have an unassailable lead
2:47:50 > 2:47:54and they are Olympic champions. Olympic Athletes From Russia will
2:47:54 > 2:47:58take the silver while the USA will take bronze. Ice dancing still to
2:47:58 > 2:48:12come. Silver medallists, for the Olympics
2:48:12 > 2:48:17athletes from Russia.
2:48:41 > 2:48:52Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev.
2:49:17 > 2:49:26Excellent, great speed going in and fast on those terms themselves.
2:49:26 > 2:49:34-- turns.
2:52:51 > 2:52:51APPLAUSE
2:52:51 > 2:52:58APPLAUSE. That will be a high five for silver for the Olympic Athletes
2:52:58 > 2:53:03From Russia. Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev, the final members
2:53:03 > 2:53:09of the team to skate. And there they are. It was beautiful, more
2:53:09 > 2:53:15storytelling for the first part of the programme, not looking at his
2:53:15 > 2:53:21face at all and then she discovered light after being blind and was able
2:53:21 > 2:53:25to see everything around her and then it was reversed and he ended up
2:53:25 > 2:53:30not being able to see.So the Canadians cannot be caught out in
2:53:30 > 2:53:37front. They will take the Olympic title. It is a straight swap from
2:53:37 > 2:53:41this watch the Olympics for Canada were beaten into second place by the
2:53:41 > 2:53:46Russians. -- from Sochi.
2:53:52 > 2:54:03Russia have consolidated the silver medal.
2:54:05 > 2:54:15And likely to be another bronze for the United States of America,
2:54:15 > 2:54:17the United States of America, here are the Shibutanis to claim bronze
2:54:17 > 2:54:32for the USA. A bit of Coldplay.
2:57:10 > 2:57:22Superb, the twizzles.
2:58:30 > 2:58:31APPLAUSE
2:58:31 > 2:58:39APPLAUSE. The crowd really enjoyed that. More precision skating from
2:58:39 > 2:58:49the Shibutanis. It is smooth. They said they have been building up to
2:58:49 > 2:58:54this creatively over the past three years. They had a creative trilogy
2:58:54 > 2:58:58of dancers and this is the culmination of that at the Olympics.
2:58:58 > 2:59:05I think is the best for them. This is where they want to deliver it. If
2:59:05 > 2:59:10I dare say it I would like to have more light and shade. It is just so
2:59:10 > 2:59:19smooth. Add almost a plateau all the way through. Being siblings of
2:59:19 > 2:59:23course it is going to have a different dynamic than a lot of the
2:59:23 > 2:59:30other teams.
2:59:30 > 2:59:39other teams.112 and that will be the bronze in the back for Team USA.
2:59:39 > 2:59:47And the gold medal already in the bag. So just a masterclass from the
2:59:47 > 2:59:50world champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir and fitting way to close
2:59:50 > 2:59:56up this team event. The gold medal around their necks when this routine
2:59:56 > 3:00:01is done.
3:04:06 > 3:04:11CHEERING APPLAUSE
3:04:11 > 3:04:17From the Mulan Rouge to the top of the podium, that will put Canada out
3:04:17 > 3:04:21of sight. The gold medal was already there is but Scott Moir and Tessa
3:04:21 > 3:04:26Virtue our head shoulders above the rest. This solidifies her second
3:04:26 > 3:04:33gold medal, the won the gold medal in Vancouver 2010 and I absolutely
3:04:33 > 3:04:39love every second and every move of that performance. What I love is
3:04:39 > 3:04:44every performance is choreographed uniquely inasmuch as not only ice
3:04:44 > 3:04:48dance, you could switch music sometimes with other skaters and the
3:04:48 > 3:04:51routine would be the same and it would work and be brilliant but
3:04:51 > 3:04:55everything they do, every detail of this is designed specifically and
3:04:55 > 3:05:00only with this music. It would not work anywhere else. What does this
3:05:00 > 3:05:01mean?
3:05:01 > 3:05:05work anywhere else.What does this mean?A testament to the strong
3:05:05 > 3:05:08performances from our team-mates. It was so inspiring and we had no doubt
3:05:08 > 3:05:13they would lay it down. It gave us a nice cushion as we took the ice
3:05:13 > 3:05:17today and were able to savour the moment and embrace it and be present
3:05:17 > 3:05:23every step of the way.Last time in Sochi it was silver for the team and
3:05:23 > 3:05:26you have converted it to gold, what's changed in the last four
3:05:26 > 3:05:33years?That is a good question.Give me a great answer! Kaboul that will
3:05:33 > 3:05:39be tough, I'm not the best that those, but I think we have a special
3:05:39 > 3:05:45team.I think our attitude changed from Sochi. I think we were a bit
3:05:45 > 3:05:50too casual. I think this team event is just like hockey and curling
3:05:50 > 3:05:57medals, we are a figure skating country and I feel like the best
3:05:57 > 3:06:00choreographers skaters and coaches have come from Canada and it's
3:06:00 > 3:06:04something we need to be in the mix for. I'm super proud of these
3:06:04 > 3:06:08athletes making this happen, skate Canada and our high performance
3:06:08 > 3:06:13director, this is a great journey and I think these guys deserve it.
3:06:13 > 3:06:17They certainly did, big Canadian team, very strong, that is the gold
3:06:17 > 3:06:21medal they wanted and in the end the ice dancers did not have too perform
3:06:21 > 3:06:26at all, the medal was already in the bag. In terms of Scott Moir and
3:06:26 > 3:06:32Tessa Virtue, the retired but the lure of competition was too strong.
3:06:32 > 3:06:38Does that ring any bells? They only had a few years, we had ten! But
3:06:38 > 3:06:45they are amazing, watching that, everything was synchronised and so
3:06:45 > 3:06:49passionate. Every time I have watched them perform it feels like
3:06:49 > 3:06:53it's for the first time. It's so together and it feels fresh which is
3:06:53 > 3:06:59what they can bring. The good stuff by Patrick Chan who won all ten
3:06:59 > 3:07:03points in the men's free programme and from a skaters perspective, the
3:07:03 > 3:07:08guys saying he is a skaters skater. This is the gold medal which has
3:07:08 > 3:07:12been missing from his personal collection for a long time.He has
3:07:12 > 3:07:17got the team gold now, I am sure he would like to be out there competing
3:07:17 > 3:07:22for the individual gold as well but that might be a step too far, he
3:07:22 > 3:07:28does not quite have the jumps. But he is a skaters skater. The way he
3:07:28 > 3:07:34can move around the ice effortlessly, his style, everything
3:07:34 > 3:07:38about him is beautiful. Such a quality in his skating other than
3:07:38 > 3:07:46when he is falling over. It's not an individual gold medal as you say but
3:07:46 > 3:07:51so many Canadians who have got close to claiming a gold medal. I know
3:07:51 > 3:07:56it's not an individual event but it's a milestone for Canadians men's
3:07:56 > 3:08:01skating.Absolutely. I think Scott said it, they are an ice country,
3:08:01 > 3:08:07everything is about ice up there. They are superstars in their own
3:08:07 > 3:08:12country and it's great to see that level of skating, in skating itself.
3:08:12 > 3:08:17I know there are are mixed thoughts about whether this team competition
3:08:17 > 3:08:21should go at the beginning or the end of the Olympic programme but in
3:08:21 > 3:08:26terms of plodding up-and-coming stars, Russia have had a fantastic
3:08:26 > 3:08:28grounding particularly with this wonderful 15-year-old Alina
3:08:28 > 3:08:33Zagitova. How important for her to get a feel of the ice at the
3:08:33 > 3:08:34Olympics.
3:08:34 > 3:08:38get a feel of the ice at the Olympics. It is important and she's
3:08:38 > 3:08:43gone out and given an amazing performance, skating the same ice
3:08:43 > 3:08:47rink with the same courts, they know what each other is capable of. It
3:08:47 > 3:08:55will come down on tonight and that is what is fascinating about this
3:08:55 > 3:08:59event, those four minutes in your life which will count in that
3:08:59 > 3:09:06moment.It has given us a real taste for the ladies individual event. The
3:09:06 > 3:09:07actual team contest itself there
3:09:07 > 3:09:07for the ladies individual event. The actual team contest itself there is
3:09:07 > 3:09:14a bit of debate about if it serves as a warm up. What is your view?I
3:09:14 > 3:09:18would like to see it at the end of the event. I think the first time
3:09:18 > 3:09:22you want to see these skaters perform it is the head to head on
3:09:22 > 3:09:27the individual events then make this camaraderie of the team at the end
3:09:27 > 3:09:33of the competition. But that is my personal opinion, and the IOC see it
3:09:33 > 3:09:37differently.It would be like a gold medal winning gal if you didn't like
3:09:37 > 3:09:43that. I have tonnes of questions that you have had hundreds and thank
3:09:43 > 3:09:47you for getting in touch. Where do we start? Do you feel you work
3:09:47 > 3:09:58robbed in Willy Hammer and do you regret putting the left in?We don't
3:09:58 > 3:10:03regret anything, we challenged ourselves. It was ten years, 1984,
3:10:03 > 3:10:09coming back ten years after to the Olympics was a big ask and to still
3:10:09 > 3:10:17be part of that, still be top of the game was our challenge, did we feel
3:10:17 > 3:10:21robbed? I think the British public felt that but you go into it with
3:10:21 > 3:10:26your eyes open. You know the possibilities. We went in with the
3:10:26 > 3:10:32view of trying to win but it didn't happen. There has been quite a lot
3:10:32 > 3:10:36on the technical side, Tracy asks if skaters have reached the limit of
3:10:36 > 3:10:41human Pozzo the in the jumps, have you ever landed a quarter?Quads are
3:10:41 > 3:10:51not my thing. The technique to pull off a quart and the power that you
3:10:51 > 3:10:55need, I am at the rank were the kids are doing all of this and the
3:10:55 > 3:11:01preciseness of it and the amount of time they had two practice to get
3:11:01 > 3:11:06perfected, it is purely a timing thing, a strange thing. It is also
3:11:06 > 3:11:11courage. You are launching yourself into the air, rotating four times
3:11:11 > 3:11:16and coming down on a single edge trying to land it cleanly. Nine
3:11:16 > 3:11:24times out of ten at the beginning you will not do it.Will there be a
3:11:27 > 3:11:31quintuple?I think it might. Maybe not in the next few years but ten
3:11:31 > 3:11:39years down the road who knows?Just to say, Sarah got in touch to say it
3:11:39 > 3:11:43worked the other way around, talking about the paso doble, I knew what a
3:11:43 > 3:11:48paso doble was when Strictly Come Dancing first hit our screens
3:11:48 > 3:12:00because of Torvill and Dean, another one saying no questions for Chris,
3:12:01 > 3:12:08just respect. You can go and have some down time and think about
3:12:08 > 3:12:13perfecting the quad or the quintuple. Each nation has their
3:12:13 > 3:12:17best loved Olympians, Chris is one of ours as is Sir Steve Redgrave,
3:12:17 > 3:12:23I'm sure many of you sat up to watch him get his fifth gold medal. The
3:12:23 > 3:12:27Netherlands are trying to achieve something similar because no Dutch
3:12:27 > 3:12:33woman or man has ever won five gold medals in Orange in a summer or
3:12:33 > 3:12:42Winter Games but Irene had the chance to do that nine medals in
3:12:42 > 3:12:48speed skating, she could own the record outright. Would both records
3:12:48 > 3:12:56come? We will go into the later seeded players with Wilf O'Reilly
3:12:56 > 3:12:58and Simon Brotherton.
3:13:03 > 3:13:03COMMENTATOR:
3:13:03 > 3:13:11COMMENTATOR: A very strong performer. Quite a struggle for the
3:13:11 > 3:13:20American to come back to top form. She missed the whole of the 2014-15
3:13:20 > 3:13:25season after problems coming from a concussion. Perhaps the expectation
3:13:25 > 3:13:31not as great as it would have been. The other issue America had in Sochi
3:13:31 > 3:13:37was the quality of the racing suits. Aerodynamics is very important.
3:13:37 > 3:13:44There were a number of issues, we can see the other Americans skating,
3:13:44 > 3:13:49they will be in other suits because not all of the athletes were happy
3:13:49 > 3:13:54with the Olympic uniform which they were provided with.Let's have a
3:13:54 > 3:13:59look and see how they are getting on.
3:14:05 > 3:14:12Brittany Bowe clearly going rather better. Still outside that quickest
3:14:12 > 3:14:17time.
3:14:18 > 3:14:21time.I think Brittany Bowe will be going into the last lap a lot
3:14:21 > 3:14:25stronger so she will go under the time. She looks all business,
3:14:25 > 3:14:31Brittany Bowe. Nice fluid movement, work for Natalia Czerwonka to do,
3:14:31 > 3:14:39she's the gap, ten to a second now. If she has a strong finish we could
3:14:39 > 3:14:45have a new leader. We will not have long to find out, less than half a
3:14:45 > 3:14:49minute. Down the back straight they go. Still striding purposefully
3:14:49 > 3:14:58forward. In real time she is inside the fastest time, hugging the inner
3:14:58 > 3:15:03blue line. Down the finishing straight. Here comes Brittany Bowe
3:15:03 > 3:15:07of the United States. We will have a new leader, yes, just over half a
3:15:07 > 3:15:15second.
3:15:20 > 3:15:29Superb last lap and a lot of discussion about these racing suits.
3:15:29 > 3:15:34Brittany Bowe has got her hair tucked up on the top overhead so
3:15:34 > 3:15:39that the wind will go over the top of the racing suit instead of down
3:15:39 > 3:15:43the back. There is a lot of discussion about whether that be
3:15:43 > 3:15:52allowed but a superb piece of skating by Brittany Bowe.
3:15:52 > 3:15:58Almost ready to go.
3:16:03 > 3:16:10From Canada, 25 years of age, Brianne Tutt.
3:16:14 > 3:16:26And I'm Ian Gorst. Looking for Olympic success.
3:16:26 > 3:16:34-- Ireen Wust.
3:16:35 > 3:16:40Four times Olympic gold medallist.
3:16:42 > 3:16:48Ireen Wust and Brianne Tutt will have to go for it again. The
3:16:48 > 3:16:58pressure is on the great chemistry. You can see the red flag, the red
3:16:58 > 3:17:07armband. Obviously Ireen Wust cannot wait to get away. The orange and
3:17:07 > 3:17:14blue, just moving fractionally and only one false start allowed. So now
3:17:14 > 3:17:21both skaters will have to remain perfectly still.
3:17:21 > 3:17:28perfectly still. The 12 times world champion. The most successful
3:17:28 > 3:17:34Olympic athlete of all time for the Netherlands.
3:17:35 > 3:17:44And away they go. Ireen Wust getting straight into her stride. Punching
3:17:44 > 3:17:50her way through the air. It will be important for her now coming down
3:17:50 > 3:17:54the home straight, the first 300 metres. You can see the Canadian
3:17:54 > 3:18:00will be looking to try to creep behind the Canadian as she comes out
3:18:00 > 3:18:05of the first turn but it is a superb opening for Ireen Wust. The crowd
3:18:05 > 3:18:10really getting into this now, plenty of Dutch people here. Here they go
3:18:10 > 3:18:16crossing over. Going onto the inside of the track now, Ireen Wust. This
3:18:16 > 3:18:22could work well for Brianne Tutt from Canada if she can keep tabs on
3:18:22 > 3:18:30Ireen Wust all around. It is important, to see what time she will
3:18:30 > 3:18:37go through at. An amazing time for Ireen Wust.Just four tenths of a
3:18:37 > 3:18:43second outside the quickest time set by Brittany Bowe so still some work
3:18:43 > 3:18:49to do. Has she got enough left in the tank when she most needs it on
3:18:49 > 3:18:54the last lap? You can see the blue line and that is how far she is
3:18:54 > 3:18:59behind Brittany Bowe at the moment. That last lap I think she will do
3:18:59 > 3:19:03much better. One tenth of a second quicker than Brittany Bowe. The
3:19:03 > 3:19:07crowd being told what is going on and really getting behind Ireen
3:19:07 > 3:19:13Wust. Away she goes down the back straight, halfway towards the final
3:19:13 > 3:19:18bend. It needs to be a big finish and so far it looks as though she is
3:19:18 > 3:19:22coming up with that. Because the advantage is growing with every
3:19:22 > 3:19:28stride. Add the finishing straight towards the line, Ireen Wust is
3:19:28 > 3:19:37going for the lead and she gets it. 1.54, taking into place. Ireen Wust
3:19:37 > 3:19:41from the Netherlands nudges Brittany Bowe from the top position on the
3:19:41 > 3:19:48podium. She is the new leader. And the big question of course is that
3:19:48 > 3:19:53going to be enough for the remaining skaters still to come. They know
3:19:53 > 3:20:05what time they have got to beat. 1.5 four.
3:20:05 > 3:20:11four. A great piece of aggressive skating from Ireen Wust. The crowd
3:20:11 > 3:20:17really cheering her on. It is going to be a very anxious wait now for
3:20:17 > 3:20:25her given the class of some of the athletes still to come. Not least
3:20:25 > 3:20:32the next on the Petrak, Marrit Leenstra. She was fourth in Sochi.
3:20:32 > 3:20:41Can she get on the podium this time? So much talent in the Dutch squad.
3:20:41 > 3:20:49Ireen Wust has done all that she can.
3:20:53 > 3:20:58can. Marrit Leenstra from the Netherlands. Finished second over
3:20:58 > 3:21:081500 metres in three World Cup races this season. 38 years of age,
3:21:08 > 3:21:17Katarzyna Bachleda-Curus. Could she challenge for the podium?
3:21:23 > 3:21:35Settled and ready to go. Away first time.
3:21:35 > 3:21:37time. A very aggressive start from Marrit Leenstra on the inside
3:21:37 > 3:21:43wearing the orange and blue.
3:21:46 > 3:21:47wearing the orange and blue. Neat and tidy around the corner, Marrit
3:21:47 > 3:21:55Leenstra. Strong and quick, a nice flow. And it is the fastest time
3:21:55 > 3:21:59already. Having made that start is it going to prove to be the
3:21:59 > 3:22:05platform, can she carry that speed on for the full three and three
3:22:05 > 3:22:14quarters lap distance? Coached by the Italian national coach.
3:22:14 > 3:22:16the Italian national coach. And lived there most of the time in
3:22:16 > 3:22:20Italy but already you can see a good three tenths of a second ahead of
3:22:20 > 3:22:28Ireen Wust.Has she gone out too quickly or has she got the form to
3:22:28 > 3:22:37hold it? Almost half a second inside the quickest time at this stage.
3:22:37 > 3:22:44Important now that she stays tight to that in a name. Skating a very
3:22:44 > 3:22:51good line. Looks very comfortable. One lap to go for Marrit Leenstra,
3:22:51 > 3:22:56she finished just off the podium in Sochi. Is this a skate that will get
3:22:56 > 3:23:02her a medal for years later? The advantage whistling away. Almost
3:23:02 > 3:23:14stride by stride and now level and suddenly now she is outside.
3:23:14 > 3:23:15suddenly now she is outside. Whether Ireen Wust just getting faster
3:23:15 > 3:23:20towards the end, impossible to say. But the finish was so good for Ireen
3:23:20 > 3:23:25Wust. Despite having made such an excellent start, Marrit Leenstra
3:23:25 > 3:23:30just could not keep it going. Coming up for second place at the moment.
3:23:30 > 3:23:35Katarzyna Bachleda-Curus from Poland quick enough for tenth and for now
3:23:35 > 3:23:47at least Ireen Wust remains in the gold medal position.
3:23:47 > 3:23:49gold medal position.Of course still two pairs to come including the
3:23:49 > 3:23:53world number one from Japan, considered as the favourite in
3:23:53 > 3:24:03current form. I think the effort from Ireen Wust, she skated in the
3:24:03 > 3:24:083000 metres and missed the gold medal so really looking to get gold
3:24:08 > 3:24:15in the 1500 metres. Superb technique from Marrit Leenstra. Really tight,
3:24:15 > 3:24:21tucked position. Became a bit ragged, the burning of the next, the
3:24:21 > 3:24:30heart and the lungs. -- the legs.
3:24:30 > 3:24:34heart and the lungs. -- the legs. So she must wait nervously as well to
3:24:34 > 3:24:42see if she can get a medal this time. Not much room for manoeuvre
3:24:42 > 3:24:47now for Brittany Bowe. She is likely to be nudged off the podium given
3:24:47 > 3:24:58the class of the four skaters still to go out onto the ice.
3:24:58 > 3:25:15to go out onto the ice. Next up we have Lotte Van Beek.
3:25:15 > 3:25:23have Lotte Van Beek. Third in Sochi. Going for gold here.
3:25:28 > 3:25:38Going for gold here. And Kikuchi.
3:25:41 > 3:25:45A conveyor belt of world-class Dutch skaters as we get to the closing
3:25:45 > 3:25:53pairs. And away they go. Three and three quarters laps of the track. A
3:25:53 > 3:26:01good clean start. Lotte Van Beek opened so hard that she paid the
3:26:01 > 3:26:05penalty in the latter part of the race. And Lotte Van Beek may be just
3:26:05 > 3:26:10holding back a little bit, a little bit more bad-tempered case. And
3:26:10 > 3:26:18hopefully then keeping that speed for the last lap.Three tenths of a
3:26:18 > 3:26:23second inside the quickest time, she has not overcooked it on the opening
3:26:23 > 3:26:33300 metres. She moves to the outside of the track this time.
3:26:33 > 3:26:35of the track this time. And the Japanese skater moving through on
3:26:35 > 3:26:40the inside.
3:26:42 > 3:26:46the inside. The Dutch coach trying to prepare these Japanese skaters
3:26:46 > 3:26:51and really they have dominated this season. Both have a second slower
3:26:51 > 3:26:55than Ireen Wust.We need to find out if they have got a big finish in
3:26:55 > 3:27:07them. And closing the gap slowly on the Japanese skater, Lotte Van Beek.
3:27:07 > 3:27:11Opened a fraction slower so we must wait and see what the time will be.
3:27:11 > 3:27:18It will all come down to the final 400 metres. If she has got a big
3:27:18 > 3:27:22finish in heard this could be enough and she could still do it. It is
3:27:22 > 3:27:28within her range and she knows it. Ireen Wust knows it is balanced on a
3:27:28 > 3:27:33knife edge. Her prospects of winning a fifth Olympic gold medal. What has
3:27:33 > 3:27:39Lotte Van Beek got left, were about to find out. And it is full on for
3:27:39 > 3:27:44the line. She can see the line in front of her but can she get there
3:27:44 > 3:27:50quickly enough? No, she cannot. Third at the moment. At best she
3:27:50 > 3:27:56will finish exactly where she did four years ago.At best. So please
3:27:56 > 3:28:00now Ireen Wust is certain of a bronze medal with just one parent
3:28:00 > 3:28:05still to go.
3:28:07 > 3:28:11still to go. She would put herself in a position there, Lotte Van Beek,
3:28:11 > 3:28:15she had the speed. It was a possibility that she could have gone
3:28:15 > 3:28:24in front. Less than half a second and 400 metres to go.Time to the
3:28:24 > 3:28:28race to perfection. It is important on the last lap that you do not
3:28:28 > 3:28:34really blow up as they say but Lotte Van Beek was looking very strong.
3:28:34 > 3:28:37But not forgetting Ireen Wust still in that pole position. And what
3:28:37 > 3:28:44about this last pairing. As Lotte Van Beek reflects on her effort and
3:28:44 > 3:28:47Ireen Wust nervously now waiting for a few more minutes to find out which
3:28:47 > 3:28:54colour her medal will be.
3:28:54 > 3:29:00colour her medal will be. The last pair on
3:29:01 > 3:29:05pair on the track, from Japan, Miho Takagi. World number one this season
3:29:05 > 3:29:16overall. And the number one at 1500 metres.
3:29:18 > 3:29:22And world record-holder Heather Bergsma. The three times world
3:29:22 > 3:29:30champion and the overall World Cup winner last season. So both of these
3:29:30 > 3:29:34skaters will feel that they are potentially racing for the gold
3:29:34 > 3:29:39medal.
3:29:39 > 3:29:42medal.They are strategically trying to slow down this part of the race.
3:29:42 > 3:29:49Of course the ice is getting harder and harder after the resurface. Hard
3:29:49 > 3:29:54to judge the form of Heather Bergsma this winter. You just sense that
3:29:54 > 3:30:00this year was all about the Olympic Games for her. Miho Takagi has put
3:30:00 > 3:30:12cards on the table throughout the campaign. Can she carry it through?
3:30:13 > 3:30:21False start.Yes and I think it was Miho Takagi. Wearing the red
3:30:21 > 3:30:28armband, the red flag identifying the skater wearing the red armband
3:30:28 > 3:30:37had a false start. Here we see it again. Yes, skaters have to be
3:30:37 > 3:30:43perfectly still, this means nobody can afford to have a false start.
3:30:43 > 3:30:47They will both be rooted to the spot until the gun echoes around the
3:30:47 > 3:30:57Oval. What must she be thinking? Stomach will be
3:30:58 > 3:31:01Stomach will be churning for Ireen Wust. Away they go, the final
3:31:01 > 3:31:08pairing, this is to decide it. Miho Takagi of Japan closest to the
3:31:08 > 3:31:13camera, the world record holders from States on the inside on the
3:31:13 > 3:31:17first lap, Heather Bergsma. We get the first time check when they go
3:31:17 > 3:31:25over the finishing line.Miho Takagi seeing what's gone in the past
3:31:25 > 3:31:32pacing herself to perfection. Three tenths of a second quicker than
3:31:32 > 3:31:38Ireen Wust.Heather Bergsma flying out of the gates but has she gone
3:31:38 > 3:31:43too quickly to early or is she in the form which means she can carry
3:31:43 > 3:31:48it all the way through to the gold medal? That is the advantage, the
3:31:48 > 3:31:54blue line is the time of the current leader. At the moment by just over
3:31:54 > 3:31:59for tenths of a second, Heather Bergsma leading the way, Miho Takagi
3:31:59 > 3:32:07just outside the time.Heather Bergsma trying to slipstream in
3:32:07 > 3:32:11behind Miho Takagi. I think she might have gone too quickly. You can
3:32:11 > 3:32:18see the green, two tenths of a second still inside. It's going to
3:32:18 > 3:32:22be so close, has she gone to early, does she have enough left in the
3:32:22 > 3:32:26tank for the final 400 metres? This is the final lap which will decide
3:32:26 > 3:32:32it. Heather Bergsma on the inside, Miho Takagi of Japan on the outside,
3:32:32 > 3:32:39they are both outside the time of Ireen Wust. They have high up lap,
3:32:39 > 3:32:45less than a tenth of a second in it, Heather Bergsma tying up really
3:32:45 > 3:32:49badly, she is out of it. Miho Takagi you can see, I don't think she's
3:32:49 > 3:32:56quite got the speed to take it from the Dutch woman. It's only good
3:32:56 > 3:33:04enough for second place and it's another Olympic title for the
3:33:04 > 3:33:13Netherlands for, a superb performance from her. Wins again.
3:33:15 > 3:33:20Beaten by the blending of an eye on Saturday in the 3000 metres but not
3:33:20 > 3:33:26to be denied here over 1500. Miho Takagi finishing with the silver
3:33:26 > 3:33:32medal, she has been world number one this winter, she gave it her best,
3:33:32 > 3:33:35give it absolutely everything. She kept it interesting write up towards
3:33:35 > 3:33:40the line but in the final 150 metres or so it just got away from her.
3:33:52 > 3:33:57STUDIO: Absolutely sensational, you are looking at the first Dutch
3:33:57 > 3:34:04athlete in either a summer or Winter Games to have won five gold medals.
3:34:04 > 3:34:10That's the official results, it is a tenth medal in total for Ireen Wust,
3:34:10 > 3:34:16officially the best speed skater ever in history. A fantastic day not
3:34:16 > 3:34:22just for her but for the Dutch. She is I suppose they are Steve
3:34:22 > 3:34:24Redgrave, the first to reach five.
3:34:24 > 3:34:25is I suppose they are Steve Redgrave, the first to reach five.
3:34:25 > 3:34:29And she still has two more medal chances in the team pursuit and the
3:34:29 > 3:34:341000 metres and having been ranked side at the long track events it
3:34:34 > 3:34:40absolutely awesome and I am not sure television pictures do it justice.
3:34:40 > 3:34:43When you hear the sound and see the wonderful weirdness of it all with
3:34:43 > 3:34:51the lycra and this arms and the graceful power it's one of my
3:34:51 > 3:34:54favourite Winter Olympic sports. Kids all over Great Britain at this
3:34:54 > 3:34:58point rifling through their parents wardrobe is looking for lycra. We
3:34:58 > 3:35:07have got a lot to get through between now and 6pm. We have seen
3:35:07 > 3:35:11Canada go through to the mixed doubles curling final, who will they
3:35:11 > 3:35:18face, Switzerland or Russia? That semifinal coming up. Superstar in
3:35:18 > 3:35:23the making, born of America of Korean parents, Chloe Kim has double
3:35:23 > 3:35:28expectation and half pipe qualifying. The half pipe became a
3:35:28 > 3:35:33wind tunnel and the elements have a bigger say in the women's snowboard
3:35:33 > 3:35:42slopestyle, I am sure it will get you feeling inspired.

3:36:08 > 3:36:16inspired. And maybe you will start in a curling rink, you saw earlier
3:36:16 > 3:36:20on Canada making it through to the inaugural mixed doubles final but
3:36:20 > 3:36:25who will they face, will it be the Swiss who have been the proven
3:36:25 > 3:36:30masters in this short form because they have won six of the ten
3:36:30 > 3:36:34available world titles going back over the last decade or so. They are
3:36:34 > 3:36:38up against the Russians who are no slouch themselves winning the world
3:36:38 > 3:36:44title in 2016. A good game in prospect watched by Logan Gray and
3:36:44 > 3:36:50Steve Cram.
3:37:13 > 3:37:17COMMENTATOR: It's not going to go out of the house, it's a good first
3:37:17 > 3:37:24stone.To return to the previous end, we were questioning if they
3:37:24 > 3:37:29should you the power play in the sixth and I think what happened was
3:37:29 > 3:37:32a great example of why they should have played a power play, they would
3:37:32 > 3:37:50have reduced the opportunity for the OAR two steel.
3:37:50 > 3:37:57Just trying to make the freeze in the other side of the house.
3:37:57 > 3:37:59the other side of the house. Using the full length of the play area
3:37:59 > 3:38:10there.While we were chatting I was just
3:38:10 > 3:38:13just checking did Anastasia Bryzgalova play the first stone for
3:38:13 > 3:38:18OAR? They have changed their order. That's a good spot, that's the first
3:38:18 > 3:38:24time we have seen that this week. And the thinking behind it?Must
3:38:24 > 3:38:29have been more confidence in Anastasia Bryzgalova to make the
3:38:29 > 3:38:39shot. And she did. It paid off. The switch up.The husband now playing
3:38:39 > 3:38:47the two, three and four stones. Another consideration could have
3:38:47 > 3:38:53been the more defensive mentality, they have now got the lead for the
3:38:53 > 3:38:58first time in this semifinal. Maybe they are thinking they can make some
3:38:58 > 3:38:59big takeouts with Alexander Krushelnitskiy to keep Switzerland
3:38:59 > 3:39:10to just one or two points here in the seventh end.
3:39:11 > 3:39:15Sport is often about momentum change isn't it? One or two little things,
3:39:15 > 3:39:22does not matter what sport that is, it can just change the momentum.
3:39:22 > 3:39:26Just have a feeling the pendulum is starting to move towards OAR but
3:39:26 > 3:39:35anything can happen, we have seen at all week. I would remind you this
3:39:35 > 3:39:42Swiss team...They scored three against OAR on the eighth down when
3:39:42 > 3:39:49they were two down to win so this game very much alive for both teams.
3:39:49 > 3:39:55The difference is that it is OAR with the hammer unless there is a
3:39:55 > 3:40:01steal here. If was there
3:40:02 > 3:40:11I'm just wondering whether or not, if OAR, if it is level or it
3:40:11 > 3:40:16Switzerland, let's say they get two here, 6-5, if OAR will use the power
3:40:16 > 3:40:23play in the final end or not.I think assuming there is any sort of
3:40:23 > 3:40:27a score for Switzerland here in the seventh end Russia will definitely
3:40:27 > 3:40:31pull out the power play in the last one. This one running very much
3:40:31 > 3:40:38inside at the moment, is it going to make contact? Just. Just gets into
3:40:38 > 3:40:46the dead zone in the back corner, the back quadrant of the house. That
3:40:46 > 3:40:52was almost a major mistake. Still not happy. Slap of the hands between
3:40:52 > 3:40:58the two of them. He knows he got away with one. It wasn't the shot he
3:40:58 > 3:41:07wanted but just managed to get enough of the Swiss stone.Certainly
3:41:07 > 3:41:15gave it a lot of encouragement. Suddenly with that roll out of the
3:41:15 > 3:41:26rings, Switzerland have a chance here.
3:41:28 > 3:41:32The only problem here for Switzerland is they cannot get a lot
3:41:32 > 3:41:38of distance between the two yellow stones.Very straight forward for
3:41:38 > 3:41:41OAR to remove a couple and where they have left them they could play
3:41:41 > 3:41:45a double lie directly in front of the other yellow stone at the back
3:41:45 > 3:41:52of the house. They will try to remove these two yellow stones, on
3:41:52 > 3:41:55the line which cuts the house horizontally and try to lie in front
3:41:55 > 3:42:03of the yellow behind.
3:42:05 > 3:42:17Coming down here with plenty of weight. Nicely done. Could not have
3:42:17 > 3:42:25worked out any better. Alexander Krushelnitskiy, this change around,
3:42:25 > 3:42:33said he might have to play the takeout and he did it very well.
3:42:33 > 3:42:35takeout and he did it very well.I don't know about you but I am
3:42:35 > 3:42:41detecting a bit of a change of speed of play here. The teams have 22
3:42:41 > 3:42:46minutes to decide what to throw for all of the stones in the match and
3:42:46 > 3:42:50if they don't complete them in that time they will lose the game.
3:42:50 > 3:42:56Currently they both have around four minutes of thinking time. To select
3:42:56 > 3:43:03their shots and play them.OAR still have a time-out I think, Switzerland
3:43:03 > 3:43:09still have theirs. -- Switzerland have used there is.That's a really
3:43:09 > 3:43:15good shot by Martin Rios. Looks easy but it's a terrific shot by Martin
3:43:15 > 3:43:19Rios, we have seen a lot of big takeouts from him and that one was a
3:43:19 > 3:43:25touch of class.
3:43:27 > 3:43:32So important wasn't it for OAR that that yellow stone we are looking at
3:43:32 > 3:43:38on the right-hand side
3:43:39 > 3:43:46on the right-hand side that it did end up outside of the house. The
3:43:46 > 3:43:49stones need to be touchingly coloured rings of the house to be in
3:43:49 > 3:43:53a scoring position. If they had left that one in there it would still
3:43:53 > 3:44:03very much be in contention to score in this seventh end.
3:44:05 > 3:44:11Is that going to hang in?The really overcooked it, if they had let it
3:44:11 > 3:44:15curl a little they could have left it in front of the yellow stone.
3:44:15 > 3:44:23Went all out for the double and did not make it.
3:44:23 > 3:44:30Going to end up with, I suppose, power play, you would like to get
3:44:30 > 3:44:36three if you can. But they will take two, take the lead. Into the final
3:44:36 > 3:44:43end.
3:44:49 > 3:45:09This has now settled nicely. Still going. It is OK. So now 6-5,
3:45:09 > 3:45:18Switzerland and the lead. The hammer will be
3:45:18 > 3:45:28will be with OAR in the final end. And they're going for the power play
3:45:28 > 3:45:35in place at the final end.Once again the stones positioned over to
3:45:35 > 3:45:43the side. The really big benefit to OAR having the stones over to the
3:45:43 > 3:45:51site is even if they have a real go around the side, if it all goes
3:45:51 > 3:45:56terribly wrong they will be able to throw one into the middle. And
3:45:56 > 3:46:01secure a point to extend the game that way. That is the thinking. And
3:46:01 > 3:46:09if it is all tied there will be an extra end.
3:46:09 > 3:46:16extra end. Not quite. Really wanted to sit in front of that OAR
3:46:16 > 3:46:23Redstone. OAR have not yet used their time out, they still have over
3:46:23 > 3:46:30three minutes each. You can afford to have three minutes so as not to
3:46:30 > 3:46:41be too rushed at the end. So for both teams they have enough time.
3:46:41 > 3:46:45And OAR have that time left. Especially at the business end of
3:46:45 > 3:46:48the game you want to leave yourself ample time to discuss these
3:46:48 > 3:46:55important decisions that need to be made. A really good shot by
3:46:55 > 3:47:03Alexander Krushelnitsky. Returning to their previous order of the first
3:47:03 > 3:47:15six ends. So a place in the gold medal match
3:47:15 > 3:47:21against Canada is at stake. It has been a close affair right from the
3:47:21 > 3:47:32beginning full stop -- from the beginning. And the initiative
3:47:32 > 3:47:37perhaps has just moved from one to the other. It looked as if Russia
3:47:37 > 3:47:45were just starting to get on top. Switzerland just doing enough but it
3:47:45 > 3:47:52is very much any police to win. Advantage is likely with OAR just in
3:47:52 > 3:47:57the fact that they have this power play in the final end. But some
3:47:57 > 3:48:05pretty good shots have been played by both teams up until this point.
3:48:09 > 3:48:14by both teams up until this point.I still think I favour Martin Rios.
3:48:14 > 3:48:21When I see those stones altogether. Here is the time-out.The difficulty
3:48:21 > 3:48:25for Martin Rios, all the stones are at the side and they would ideally
3:48:25 > 3:48:31like them to be in the middle. You have seen other teams ignoring the
3:48:31 > 3:48:35stones out on the wing when the power play is called. That could
3:48:35 > 3:48:39have been another option for Switzerland but they have decided to
3:48:39 > 3:48:44go with this and almost take a more containing approach. Rather than
3:48:44 > 3:48:59trying to win the game here and now. A lovely big pocket.
3:48:59 > 3:49:06A lovely big pocket. Between the Redstone.
3:49:06 > 3:49:14Redstone. That would give them a good chance of scoring two here.
3:49:33 > 3:49:43This discussion will need to come to a conclusion in 15 seconds!
3:49:43 > 3:49:47a conclusion in 15 seconds!A few options here. I talked about
3:49:47 > 3:49:53splitting the house, positioning both stones as far apart as
3:49:53 > 3:50:06possible. They could do that. But it is quite a small area to work in.
3:50:06 > 3:50:12And what they may be better advised doing is trying to make a play down
3:50:12 > 3:50:19the same side where those stones are. Even just tap it a little bit.
3:50:19 > 3:50:25Two shots needed to win the game here in regulation time.I think not
3:50:25 > 3:50:32to be negative, but at least make sure we have a shot to tie this. If
3:50:32 > 3:50:38it does not work out at least make sure you have a shot to type this.
3:50:38 > 3:50:42And that is where the power play comes into its own in this
3:50:42 > 3:50:54situation. Opening up the centre. Not far enough.
3:50:57 > 3:51:03Not far enough. Not too sure about that call. It was not made, either.
3:51:03 > 3:51:07Looks like Switzerland are going to take the chance to remove some red
3:51:07 > 3:51:19granite. So going to try to play on that red
3:51:19 > 3:51:32stone and maybe check into the other as well, that would be a bonus.
3:51:32 > 3:51:36Martin Rios has been very smart and efficient closing out matches with
3:51:36 > 3:51:45tight finishes. Jenny Perret it will be to play the last stone. Another
3:51:45 > 3:51:52good shot from Martin Rios. And targets therefore OAR as well.I'm a
3:51:52 > 3:51:57bit surprised they were not a bit more adventurous with that shot
3:51:57 > 3:52:07trying to move the other red with a potentially game-winning position.
3:52:14 > 3:52:26Alexander completely out of breath, working hard.
3:52:38 > 3:52:41Anastasia Bryzgalova watching the stone come-down, reaching the climax
3:52:41 > 3:52:50of this final end. OAR needing two to win, one to try -- to tie. Her
3:52:50 > 3:52:52husband and playing partner just looks up to the sky with
3:52:52 > 3:53:00frustration. Just not quite paying off. Just trying to move the stones
3:53:00 > 3:53:04around a little bit, wanted to leave themselves lying shot. Not quite
3:53:04 > 3:53:09able to do it. Moved one of the Swiss stones. This has been a tight
3:53:09 > 3:53:14affair all the way through. Switzerland deploying the power play
3:53:14 > 3:53:19in the seventh end and moving into the lead. It looked for a couple of
3:53:19 > 3:53:25ends as if OAR were very much taking control of this. But now it is
3:53:25 > 3:53:29anyone's match. It certainly is and we had a big reaction from Alexander
3:53:29 > 3:53:33Krushelnitsky as it did not work out exactly as planned. But Switzerland
3:53:33 > 3:53:38are still not out of the woods, they have a bit of work to do to prevent
3:53:38 > 3:53:46OAR from scoring the two needed to win the game. So Switzerland with
3:53:46 > 3:53:53the yellow stones. This is the final stone for Martin Rios. Sweeping his
3:53:53 > 3:54:02own stone. All action. Martin Rios, the world champion trying to make it
3:54:02 > 3:54:06through the gold medal match and hanging onto this 1-shot lead.
3:54:06 > 3:54:13Played a pretty good shot. An absolute beauty. They have got the
3:54:13 > 3:54:21OAR surmounted. Of course they have the hammer, they have got the last
3:54:21 > 3:54:25stone. They will always want to give themselves the opportunity to take
3:54:25 > 3:54:38this to the extra end. Anastasia Bryzgalova playing the fifth stone.
3:54:38 > 3:54:47The last one will be played by her husband. Just make sure you get one
3:54:47 > 3:54:52now, just set yourself up for that? There's still a chance to score a
3:54:52 > 3:54:59couple. They could have this on the inside and maybe even move all three
3:54:59 > 3:55:03of the yellows. So Anastasia Bryzgalova going to give at the
3:55:03 > 3:55:15heave Ho and see how much she can get moving. Hit it too thinly. So
3:55:15 > 3:55:20tight to the guard.
3:55:22 > 3:55:26tight to the guard. One still sitting there. So now over two Jenny
3:55:26 > 3:55:32Perret.
3:55:32 > 3:55:39Perret. Look at that look, turning away. Married couple! There could be
3:55:39 > 3:55:48words later! Of course OAR have the last stone.
3:55:48 > 3:55:55It is 6-5 to Switzerland. This semifinal, the winners go through to
3:55:55 > 3:55:59meet Canada in the gold medal match. The losers will play Norway tomorrow
3:55:59 > 3:56:08in the bronze medal match. Jenny Perret with what could be her
3:56:08 > 3:56:12last stone. She will be hoping it is. She will not want to have to
3:56:12 > 3:56:23come back in the extra end.
3:56:24 > 3:56:29come back in the extra end. Is she locking this?Putting the guard up
3:56:29 > 3:56:36and I'm not sure, I would not say it is negative but it leaves the
3:56:36 > 3:56:41opposition is shot to win the game. If you draw one to the other side
3:56:41 > 3:56:49and get it perfect, they can only score one. Whereas now even if OAR
3:56:49 > 3:56:53cannot come around and tap the other stone they can still drive the guard
3:56:53 > 3:56:59back and maybe even score a couple. That was a strange choice of shot.
3:56:59 > 3:57:04They have been so Google or week at picking those shots. Deciding what
3:57:04 > 3:57:10to play. And what they're saying is go on, make it. -- they have been so
3:57:10 > 3:57:19good all week. So OAR, Alexander Krushelnitsky and
3:57:19 > 3:57:24his wife Anastasia Bryzgalova watching on. He has the chance to
3:57:24 > 3:57:34win this, that Swiss stone needs to be moved. It goes quiet. They are
3:57:34 > 3:57:40watching, watching the line. Just going for the one, not going for the
3:57:40 > 3:57:50win.They have just not played it very well.It is still going. And it
3:57:50 > 3:57:53is Switzerland to either winners. Huge error from Alexander
3:57:53 > 3:57:59Krushelnitsky at the end. They asked him to play the shot and he could
3:57:59 > 3:58:05not. I guess that is what pressure kerning is all about. It is the
3:58:05 > 3:58:07world champions Switzerland who will go into the gold medal match against
3:58:07 > 3:58:09Canada.
3:58:09 > 3:58:15go into the gold medal match against Canada.
3:58:15 > 3:58:22You need Rhona Martin in those circumstances! But it is Canada
3:58:22 > 3:58:26against Switzerland and that will be the Olympic final. 11 o'clock our
3:58:26 > 3:58:34time tomorrow morning.
3:58:34 > 3:58:39time tomorrow morning. And the men's qualifying is taking place overnight
3:58:39 > 3:58:42but also we have the women's qualifying. First of all the
3:58:42 > 3:58:48character of the Pyeongchang halfpipe. What is it like?Going
3:58:48 > 3:58:52back to the previous Games where we had a lot warmer weather, it is a
3:58:52 > 3:58:58lot colder in Pyeongchang so the halfpipe is in pristine condition.
3:58:58 > 3:59:02The feedback from some other riders is that the bubbles are perfect so
3:59:02 > 3:59:10it should be a good challenge.Of course they had a little bit of
3:59:10 > 3:59:15melting going on in Sochi! If there are any bumps, then you end up
3:59:15 > 3:59:25finding a lot of falls and a lot of mistakes. So good vibes about this?
3:59:25 > 3:59:29I've seen some of the runs in the men's training on social media and
3:59:29 > 3:59:35everything is looking good.Well overnight we will see the legendary
3:59:35 > 3:59:39Shaun White in the men's qualification. But there was a
3:59:39 > 3:59:44female halfpipe today, Chloe Kim, tipped to be the next big thing in
3:59:44 > 3:59:49snowboarding. Rather like Shaun White in Turin in 2006. This young
3:59:49 > 3:59:54lady is just 17, she could've gone to Sochi age 13. In fact she was too
3:59:54 > 3:59:58young but she was already the owner of an X Games gold medal by that
3:59:58 > 4:00:05point. She's the daughter of Korean parents who emigrated in 1998/ she
4:00:05 > 4:00:09is the darling of both America and of course the host nation. All eyes
4:00:09 > 4:00:15on Chloe this morning in qualification.
4:00:16 > 4:00:23COMMENTATOR: Qualification about to get underway in what can only be
4:00:23 > 4:00:32described as very difficult conditions.
4:00:32 > 4:00:37conditions. 17 years of age. You could say she's the most meaningful
4:00:37 > 4:00:42rival to Chloe Kim at the moment. They do train together, they are
4:00:42 > 4:00:48good friends. But they are both going to want to win, kicking things
4:00:48 > 4:00:51off with the huge front side nine.
4:00:54 > 4:01:04Into a big 720. Opening up the front, into the heart and flip. 720
4:01:04 > 4:01:17with a flip. Backside five. Good job. Nine judges picking apart these
4:01:17 > 4:01:22runs, looking for difficulty, execution, variety and amplitude,
4:01:22 > 4:01:27they want to see the riders going nice and high. We have not had that
4:01:27 > 4:01:36in slopestyle before, the bullet time effect. There is the trademark
4:01:36 > 4:01:45smile from Mastro. Coming off the back of a World Cup win in Aspen
4:01:45 > 4:01:55where she actually be to Chloe Kim. Queralt Castellet Road into
4:01:55 > 4:02:00Queralt Castellet Road into children when she was just 16. Heading the
4:02:00 > 4:02:11back side wall first. Absolutely huge backside 900.
4:02:11 > 4:02:17huge backside 900. Back 540's. Really high on the transition which
4:02:17 > 4:02:26is what the judges like to see. There we go. Got the amplitude meter
4:02:26 > 4:02:37on the graphics. 3.7 metres. The pipe it self seven metres deep. This
4:02:37 > 4:02:44is a monster. She could be finding form. At the moment with difficult
4:02:44 > 4:02:49conditions like this they have just got to get a score on the board.
4:02:49 > 4:02:55Now, Chloe Kim from the USA. This is the Sean White, the Lewis Hamilton
4:02:55 > 4:03:03of ladies snowboarding. She is absolutely unbeatable. He says! The
4:03:03 > 4:03:10only chink in her armour is the lack of travel. She's ridden almost
4:03:10 > 4:03:15exclusively in the United States and could these unfamiliar surroundings
4:03:15 > 4:03:22Bihar on doing? Amplitude, style and execution are her thing.
4:03:22 > 4:03:30execution are her thing. Switch 720. Really nice from Chloe Kim.
4:03:34 > 4:03:41I tell you what, that is a clever, clever run from the 17-year-old. She
4:03:41 > 4:03:48will be really happy with that representing the USA, born of Korean
4:03:48 > 4:03:59parents. Really excited to be riding here. Walked away with the goal that
4:03:59 > 4:04:04the X Games, which are considered the biggest event in half pipe is
4:04:04 > 4:04:13now boarding -- with the gold at the X Games. That's going to be a good
4:04:13 > 4:04:17score. 91.5.
4:04:20 > 4:04:34I think she can safely say she's going to be in the finals tomorrow.
4:04:35 > 4:04:39Next Liu Jiayu, let's see what she can do. Flying across the bottom.
4:04:39 > 4:04:46Switching method. Into the switch 720. This is looking really nice
4:04:46 > 4:04:56huge front side 540. Land is a little flat. Keep the speed up into
4:04:56 > 4:05:00the front seven. Double handed wave. She likes it. We like it. You like
4:05:00 > 4:05:07it.
4:05:08 > 4:05:22Huge score. 87.75. The official results after the first rung of the
4:05:22 > 4:05:27ladies half pipe snowboarding. Chloe Kim in top spot. But to get into the
4:05:27 > 4:05:33top 12 you have two best 50.75 and all of these riders looking down
4:05:33 > 4:05:39very capable of making it through. Kelly Clark down in 14th. Emily
4:05:39 > 4:05:48after. So much more on offer from these riders in the second run in
4:05:48 > 4:05:56the ladies half by qualification. Chloe Kim, if you work at heart list
4:05:56 > 4:06:02of biographies, it is a list of firsts. Youth Olympic champion. She
4:06:02 > 4:06:07has been there and done that, can she step it up at senior level?
4:06:10 > 4:06:14Could be a switch seven. Double grab. Really nice control on the
4:06:14 > 4:06:22double grab. You're going to see a big twist with the indie grab,
4:06:22 > 4:06:27slightly unorthodox way of doing it. Frontside seven, invert at the
4:06:27 > 4:06:35bottom. That's an improvement for me as well. She can just, if she is a
4:06:35 > 4:06:41racing driver she is just able to turn it on when she needs to. Able
4:06:41 > 4:06:47to find that extra gear. A beaming smile and it is an improvement, look
4:06:47 > 4:06:54at that. 95.5. Chloe Kim will see you tomorrow.
4:06:58 > 4:07:05Kelly Clark has it all to do in 15th. This girl sprinkles pressure
4:07:05 > 4:07:10on her breakfast cereal. If anyone can do it it's Kelly Clark. You
4:07:10 > 4:07:18could call her the most winningest snowboarder in American terms. Won
4:07:18 > 4:07:26so many contests. How has she held onto that? I will never know. Needs
4:07:26 > 4:07:31composure here. She can dredge the trick bag, she is capable of it.
4:07:31 > 4:07:38Hold on Kelly Clark.
4:07:38 > 4:07:43Pigtail grab. She needs this, she has opted out. She thinks that's
4:07:43 > 4:07:49enough for the top 12. I think it might be but where it will put her I
4:07:49 > 4:07:56don't actually know. A lot of mistakes, a lot of flailing. At
4:07:56 > 4:08:01times it looked like she had been fired out of a cannon. The crippler
4:08:01 > 4:08:14here, the backflip. Anxious wait. She is in ninth. Can she hold onto
4:08:14 > 4:08:30that? Currently lying in fourth the 24-year-old Haruna Matsumoto. Second
4:08:30 > 4:08:36in Mammoth at the World Cup so she has been on the podium before but it
4:08:36 > 4:08:41was seventh here last time around at the test event. That was really
4:08:41 > 4:08:50nice. Big front side 900.
4:08:50 > 4:08:59Frontside seven and a switch. Seven. Well held.
4:08:59 > 4:09:04Well held. Then a front five. Really nice run. Currently fourth. Not sure
4:09:04 > 4:09:14if she will vault Alexander Krushelnitskiy. Backside five.
4:09:19 > 4:09:21Krushelnitskiy. Backside five. -- if she will vault Alexander
4:09:21 > 4:09:22Krushelnitskiy.
4:09:28 > 4:09:40Here we go. Aerial gold. Big front side seven. Definitely one of the
4:09:40 > 4:09:48riders looking to get in. To those top 12 spots. We know she is
4:09:48 > 4:09:54capable. Absolutely huge they fall into the big crippler. Hold onto
4:09:54 > 4:10:04this, nothing silly, nothing stupid, fist pump.
4:10:04 > 4:10:11fist pump. So, Arielle Gold, I personally believe will bump Holly
4:10:11 > 4:10:14Crawford out but in doing so she will also knock out her team-mate
4:10:14 > 4:10:32Kelly Clark, knock her closer to the elimination spot. It puts her, just.
4:10:37 > 4:10:44From China, the first ever Chinese athlete to meddle Attic
4:10:44 > 4:10:48athlete to meddle Attic -- to meddle at X Games, Cai Xuetong. Into the
4:10:48 > 4:10:54switch seven. The amplitude judge will not have liked that. Building
4:10:54 > 4:11:04up the speed. Backside 540. Frontside 720. One and a half
4:11:04 > 4:11:11rotations and a switch. Comes down forwards. And currently in the
4:11:11 > 4:11:18seventh. She will not upset the proceedings but she might cement her
4:11:18 > 4:11:25place in the finals with a better score. So women's half pipe
4:11:25 > 4:11:33qualification going to plan.
4:11:41 > 4:11:47Sena Tomita the Japanese super route onto the big contest circuit.
4:11:52 > 4:12:07Absolutely. Huge 900. Frontside 720. Switch 720. Looking really good so
4:12:07 > 4:12:18far. Frontside 540. Look at the wind. Huge backside. Taking a
4:12:18 > 4:12:27breath. I think she knows how close she has come. Big frontside 540 down
4:12:27 > 4:12:40at the bottom. Seventh place. She has improved. 66.7 five. She vaults
4:12:40 > 4:12:52Kelly Clark and Arielle Gold. That's the story ladies and gentlemen.
4:12:52 > 4:12:56Chloe Kim the apps red-hot favourite coming into this has proved exactly
4:12:56 > 4:13:03why. Absolutely smashed the field. Tomorrow's battle here in the half
4:13:03 > 4:13:10pipe, you have got to see will be a battle for silver because as it
4:13:10 > 4:13:18stands it looks like nobody will get anywhere close to Chloe Kim.
4:13:18 > 4:13:18stands it looks like nobody will get anywhere close to Chloe Kim.
4:13:18 > 4:13:23STUDIO: She is doing what all great athletes do, making it look easy,
4:13:23 > 4:13:29does it look like she is head and shoulders above everyone else? She
4:13:29 > 4:13:30looks so relaxed and the
4:13:30 > 4:13:31shoulders above everyone else? She looks so relaxed and the judges are
4:13:31 > 4:13:35looking for that, under control 100%. You can see she goes in with
4:13:35 > 4:13:41the Little League, picking up speed, dropping quite far down the half
4:13:41 > 4:13:48pipe to pick up her speed. Lovely frontside seven, get straight on her
4:13:48 > 4:13:54edge and then goes into the next trip. Even this run I know she is
4:13:54 > 4:13:59holding back because previously seen her training in California I have
4:13:59 > 4:14:06seen her learn all her new tricks and with the fact she's got
4:14:06 > 4:14:17back-to-back .net's, the first female -- back-to-back
4:14:17 > 4:14:19back-to-back .net's, the first female -- back-to-back 1080's.You
4:14:19 > 4:14:27trained with Shaun White and with Chloe, what are your memories of
4:14:27 > 4:14:31her, her dad was always there?Yes, he has always been there to support
4:14:31 > 4:14:36her and it's been great to see. It was great to see when she came on
4:14:36 > 4:14:40the scene, she is a serious contender. More gold medals than you
4:14:40 > 4:14:46can shake a stick at.We look forward to seeing her in the women's
4:14:46 > 4:14:56half pipe final at 1am, thereafter look out for low-flying fruit.Mr
4:14:56 > 4:15:02Sean White, the finest of his generation. The eyes of the world on
4:15:02 > 4:15:09this man. Absolutely massive.
4:15:09 > 4:15:15this man. Absolutely massive.USA!A second gold medal. Sean White
4:15:15 > 4:15:20unveils the Tomahawk! That's against the laws of physics! Absolutely
4:15:20 > 4:15:25phenomenal.
4:15:25 > 4:15:32It is the Flying Tomato. Shaun White came on the scene in 2006 and now
4:15:32 > 4:15:36bidding to become the first snowboarder to win three gold medals
4:15:36 > 4:15:39in the same event. Many thought he should have done it in Sochi but
4:15:39 > 4:15:46what went wrong? In Sochi I always found the conditions super tricky
4:15:46 > 4:15:51and Shaun White is one of those guys you will get a perfect run if you
4:15:51 > 4:15:56put in the perfect halfpipe. So Sochi brought all the problems, he
4:15:56 > 4:16:01ended up landing for -- far from the transition. He has got a lot to
4:16:01 > 4:16:07prove. I remember back in 2006 everyone celebrated the double
4:16:07 > 4:16:15twist. Is that almost child's play now all these years later quit right
4:16:15 > 4:16:21back in 2006 run that would win the Olympics is almost warm up. Almost
4:16:21 > 4:16:27old news for these guys. Well we look forward to seeing what he can
4:16:27 > 4:16:30produce for the halfpipe qualification. Now just over four
4:16:30 > 4:16:35years to the David Jenny Jones changed British snow sport forever
4:16:35 > 4:16:40with the first ever official medal on snow. I'm sure she remembers it
4:16:40 > 4:16:43we will certainly forget.
4:16:43 > 4:16:46on snow. I'm sure she remembers it we will certainly forget.
4:16:46 > 4:16:52Next up, Jenny Jones.
4:16:52 > 4:16:55Next up, Jenny Jones. She has experience and that will come to the
4:16:55 > 4:17:01fore. She has been in these high-pressure situations. Coming in
4:17:01 > 4:17:10to the switch.Beautiful on the down rail.Great execution. Talk about
4:17:10 > 4:17:14confidence as well. Doing those little tricks. Coming into the first
4:17:14 > 4:17:25jump.Beautiful.Great grab, looking very solid for Jenny Jones. Is she
4:17:25 > 4:17:34going for the front line? She went for the seven!Solid. Jenny Jones
4:17:34 > 4:17:42has just taken Britain's first ever Olympic medal on the snow.
4:17:42 > 4:17:45has just taken Britain's first ever Olympic medal on the snow.
4:17:45 > 4:17:49And a very excitable Aimee Fuller on commentary there. Four years later
4:17:49 > 4:17:56she is our sole representative in the women's Slopestyle final this
4:17:56 > 4:17:59time around and the last bronze medallist is now watching her
4:17:59 > 4:18:08progress. It was a tricky day for this final.We have the women's
4:18:08 > 4:18:12Slopestyle final and bringing back some memories for me. That feeling
4:18:12 > 4:18:16of anticipation, what the day was going to hold for E. Was the weather
4:18:16 > 4:18:21going to be OK, will I land a run. All of these athletes will be super
4:18:21 > 4:18:25nervous but excited to get on with the event. It will be a bit of a
4:18:25 > 4:18:31battle between the more experienced riders and the young guns. Jamie
4:18:31 > 4:18:35Anderson, Olympic gold medallist from Sochi, Spencer O'Brien, the
4:18:35 > 4:18:44Canadian. And then not to forget the Team GB athlete, Aimee Fuller. She
4:18:44 > 4:18:49will be aiming probably for a top ten results. That would be great if
4:18:49 > 4:18:52she could land a run in these conditions, she will be really
4:18:52 > 4:18:58happy. Like all the girls here because you could see some quite bad
4:18:58 > 4:19:00crashes. But definitely also some great riding from the
4:19:00 > 4:19:01crashes. But definitely also some great riding from the girls later
4:19:01 > 4:19:08today. The women's Slopestyle finals. We
4:19:08 > 4:19:14have a full quota of riders. 26 women today. Instead of getting
4:19:14 > 4:19:24three runs they will only get two runs.
4:19:24 > 4:19:35runs. One of the trail blazers of recent years, Klaudia Medlova.
4:19:35 > 4:19:49Interesting to see what she has got. Up and over the A-frame.
4:19:50 > 4:19:53Up and over the A-frame. Setting up for that final little module. Into
4:19:53 > 4:20:00the first of those jumps. Super corked. Goodness me. That was
4:20:00 > 4:20:07incredible. Essentially she jumped off the roof of a house and landed
4:20:07 > 4:20:11on her back.I cannot believe that she is riding away from that. She
4:20:11 > 4:20:17got caught up in the rotation and whether it was the wind that stalled
4:20:17 > 4:20:22but rotation.Next up the Russian who has started to come to before
4:20:22 > 4:20:37this season, decent results the 19-year-old Sofya Fedorova. Looks a
4:20:37 > 4:20:47little bit wild sometimes. But good on the rails. There you go. Huge
4:20:47 > 4:20:55speed at her disposal. The judges will be looking for a big long slide
4:20:55 > 4:21:00rather than just the tag on the end of it. Plenty of speed into the
4:21:00 > 4:21:06middle kick. Oh no, she speed checked. She had all that speed and
4:21:06 > 4:21:15then she ditched it wait in. She had the speed at her disposal. It is
4:21:15 > 4:21:28called a speed check when you just let the edge hang out.
4:21:29 > 4:21:37A very strong American contingent Jessika Jenson just centring
4:21:37 > 4:21:42herself.
4:21:45 > 4:22:01herself. Fifth place there. Killing speed into this little ramp. The
4:22:01 > 4:22:04body language, both hands held in front of her, she does not look
4:22:04 > 4:22:11confident.I feel a bit nervous watching her. Good solid switch,
4:22:11 > 4:22:17that is more like it. Into the second jump. Very nice. Now keep
4:22:17 > 4:22:27your composure. Keep tax in. First place.
4:22:28 > 4:22:30place.Definitely first place, easily. We had not seen a run
4:22:30 > 4:22:39completed over all three kickers. It is first place, easily. Next in a
4:22:39 > 4:22:45woman who just lost out to Jenny Jones in Sochi. She laid down a
4:22:45 > 4:22:50front
4:22:50 > 4:23:03front side 1080. 29 years old, never far from a smile.
4:23:03 > 4:23:08far from a smile. One of the most experienced riders. She had to fight
4:23:08 > 4:23:18for it.A big slide on the down rail.
4:23:18 > 4:23:20rail.Lovely point of difference, sliding off a little bit early on
4:23:20 > 4:23:26that. I think she will score higher than the women we have seen going
4:23:26 > 4:23:33straight over the bank. No grab but still one of the most technical
4:23:33 > 4:23:40tricks we have seen through there. Yes, this is good. Now bottom jump,
4:23:40 > 4:23:54what has she got? Hold on really nicely. So experienced. She almost
4:23:54 > 4:24:01just did what she had to do, just did enough as it were. So there you
4:24:01 > 4:24:07go.
4:24:07 > 4:24:15go. Aimee Fuller is about to drop. The rider who burst onto the scene
4:24:15 > 4:24:22with an incredible double backflip and cap double under. She's been
4:24:22 > 4:24:29getting to grips with this course to training. 50 and 50 on that big down
4:24:29 > 4:24:42rail.Come on, Aimee Fuller. Coming off early on the kink rail.Good
4:24:42 > 4:24:47tricks she has got. Top ten would be a good result for Aimee Fuller
4:24:47 > 4:25:00today.Speed is her friend here. The under flip, the single version. It
4:25:00 > 4:25:05did not feel that she had the speed. You could almost hear her saying it
4:25:05 > 4:25:13is so windy.
4:25:13 > 4:25:17is so windy. Just making it over the small side. A shame for Aimee
4:25:17 > 4:25:33Fuller. Through the double kink. This is really nice. Got the grab
4:25:33 > 4:25:44full stop -- grab. You can see those little flags just flapping away.
4:25:44 > 4:25:54Another foot up that landing and it could have been jump. -- a hip jump.
4:25:54 > 4:26:05Round one is right. Waiting for the wind to stop. Back-up
4:26:05 > 4:26:08wind to stop. Back-up the top, another rider without the World Cup
4:26:08 > 4:26:17ranking that reflects her ability and level of riding, Silje Norendal.
4:26:17 > 4:26:27Really difficult switch grind, super technical on the kink rail. She got
4:26:27 > 4:26:32three X Games medals in a row. She loves riding at the X Games. Switch
4:26:32 > 4:26:45into this first jump. Coming up a little bit short. No speed checks.
4:26:45 > 4:26:51Clears it. Despite losing her composure.
4:26:52 > 4:26:57composure. And there we go. The first of the rider is, she's got the
4:26:57 > 4:27:01internal speedometer and board control. And she has made it through
4:27:01 > 4:27:08comfortably.We do not get a module breakdown but without a doubt the
4:27:08 > 4:27:14most composed and best three rail modules. She had a wobble on the way
4:27:14 > 4:27:19into that kick up, she was running fast and the board just seemed to
4:27:19 > 4:27:25have a bit of a wobble but she made it through beautifully. This was the
4:27:25 > 4:27:34backside 720.Really nice. The Ford Mondeo of grabs. There we go. Look
4:27:34 > 4:27:44at that.Silje Norendal moving ahead of Jessica Jensen. Now go back up to
4:27:44 > 4:27:52the top and one of a new generation of riders who are really pushing the
4:27:52 > 4:27:58old guard here today, Hailey Langland. Beautiful style. Grew up
4:27:58 > 4:28:05in California and she just has that laid-back style.
4:28:05 > 4:28:09laid-back style. Looks like she has done hot laps with the boys in
4:28:09 > 4:28:16California. Really charging through. That top section really nice. Lovely
4:28:16 > 4:28:22nose press. Such style and composure. The judges like to see
4:28:22 > 4:28:27everything flowing perfectly. The first of the jumps. Front side 360.
4:28:27 > 4:28:34Super corked. She loves to do that. Just lands a little bit too deep to
4:28:34 > 4:28:41hold on. But Hailey Langland, a statement of intent from the young
4:28:41 > 4:28:47American. She was one of the riders at the start of the contest who
4:28:47 > 4:28:50refused to make excuses about the weather. She was desperate to get in
4:28:50 > 4:28:56here and to attack this course. That is exactly what she has done in the
4:28:56 > 4:28:59first run. That kind of attitude I think will separate the medallists
4:28:59 > 4:29:06from the also-ran competitors.This is not qualifying, it is straight
4:29:06 > 4:29:15finals.
4:29:16 > 4:29:21Now from Finland, Enni Rukajarvi, coming back from chronic fatigue and
4:29:21 > 4:29:26burn-out. Managing her exposure now so much better. She is riding at her
4:29:26 > 4:29:32pace. She will not do many contests but whenever she enters she will
4:29:32 > 4:29:37make the podium. Nice flow through the top section. A beautiful
4:29:37 > 4:29:48technical rider. And using the same line as the male riders from
4:29:48 > 4:29:52Finland. I forgot to look and see if I could see the Finland coach
4:29:52 > 4:30:01knitting again full stop very nice, now a second jump.Plenty of speed.
4:30:01 > 4:30:05You can hear the crowd ramping up. They're going to see some action on
4:30:05 > 4:30:10this jump.
4:30:10 > 4:30:13this jump.Bounced off the knuckle. Spat her right down the landing.
4:30:13 > 4:30:22That was lovely.
4:30:22 > 4:30:29The switch 540, coming in backwards, one and a half rotations. The
4:30:29 > 4:30:33backside 720 was huge, have every right to think she had the speed.
4:30:33 > 4:30:38You could see the headwind pushing her. This got no pop and she knows
4:30:38 > 4:30:43it's going wrong. The Jack in the box centre straight down the
4:30:43 > 4:30:55landing. This will make you wince. All that compression. You could see
4:30:55 > 4:31:05the wind blowing the snow down the landing.
4:31:05 > 4:31:08landing. Next up is one of the riders who thinks this competition
4:31:08 > 4:31:14probably should not have run in these conditions. But the pound for
4:31:14 > 4:31:19pound the best slopestyle rider in the world. At the US Open in March
4:31:19 > 4:31:24last year she landed the best run anyone has ever seen by a woman in
4:31:24 > 4:31:33slopestyle. But see which she has got. Really attacking the course.
4:31:33 > 4:31:40Going without a jacket. Consciously thinking about the wind. Looking
4:31:40 > 4:31:48very good from Anna Gasser. Cap double under Flip. That's how you do
4:31:48 > 4:31:55it. With a revert. My goodness. There you go. She wants this doesn't
4:31:55 > 4:32:00she?
4:32:00 > 4:32:04she?Sent it huge. Get the big trick out the way early and then calm it
4:32:04 > 4:32:13down on the second.Just watch this everyone.Heroic effort from Anna
4:32:13 > 4:32:22Gasser. She has dominated women's slopestyle for the last decade. She
4:32:22 > 4:32:30knocked Jenny Jones of her perch back in 2012. If anyone can ride
4:32:30 > 4:32:35this course, if anyone can find a way around the wind it will be this
4:32:35 > 4:32:41woman. The reigning Olympic champion. The gold medallist at X
4:32:41 > 4:32:47Games two weeks ago, Jimmy
4:32:47 > 4:32:50Games two weeks ago, Jimmy -- Jamie Anderson. When you think she is
4:32:50 > 4:32:53thinking about hanging up her competitive boots she goes and
4:32:53 > 4:33:02learns new tricks. Look at that. Goodness me. Liquid snowboarding.
4:33:02 > 4:33:09It's a different league through the rails.So stylish and smooth.
4:33:09 > 4:33:13Confidence and experience shining through that what is it going to
4:33:13 > 4:33:21look like here? My goodness, legs forged from metal. Box clever,
4:33:21 > 4:33:29opened up, I think that was going to be a cap double under. Look at that.
4:33:29 > 4:33:36That's exactly what we said. The the confidence. The trust in her tricks,
4:33:36 > 4:33:40the ability to understand the spatial awareness at every point.
4:33:40 > 4:33:45She knows it wasn't pretty all the way through.It wasn't pretty but
4:33:45 > 4:33:50experience got her through it.
4:33:52 > 4:33:55experience got her through it.83 for Jamie Anderson. Big smile for
4:33:55 > 4:34:04her and very gold medal position after the first run.So good to see.
4:34:04 > 4:34:12The Americans sitting in gold and bronze. After the first run.
4:34:13 > 4:34:15bronze. After the first run. An absolute lottery after the top
4:34:15 > 4:34:25three. Second runs here in Bokwang, the Phoenix Park venues for all of
4:34:25 > 4:34:34the freestyle events. The windsock gaping like a basking shark. You can
4:34:34 > 4:34:40see this is not cloud, this is snow been blown off the hill. More than
4:34:40 > 4:34:4745 kilometres of gusts.
4:34:47 > 4:34:5045 kilometres of gusts. The American currently in bronze medal position
4:34:50 > 4:34:57she will be one of the riders thinking I have got nothing to lose,
4:34:57 > 4:35:01Jessika Jenson. I am already in medal position, I can throw this out
4:35:01 > 4:35:04there. You can see the body language. It's relaxed maybe a
4:35:04 > 4:35:11little after the first run but it's still very solid. She looks like a
4:35:11 > 4:35:15Thunderbird from Tracy Island, like she's been held up by strings. We
4:35:15 > 4:35:19said about keeping the centre of gravity low and she looks quite
4:35:19 > 4:35:33high.Much more solid on the in-run. Oh dear.Wise. If she had spun
4:35:33 > 4:35:38there...To explain that, if you spin you are using up momentum as
4:35:38 > 4:35:45you carve off the face of the jump. If you go dead straight you will go
4:35:45 > 4:35:50faster and longer. Coming up short on a straight air, it would have
4:35:50 > 4:36:01been very short on a spin. She is smiling and waving seeing oh well.
4:36:08 > 4:36:12Yuka Fujimori, 31-year-old took a big hit in the first run. Do not
4:36:12 > 4:36:18drop in. We have got a miniature tornado making its way up the course
4:36:18 > 4:36:26at the moment. Very difficult to sit here and commented on this knowing
4:36:26 > 4:36:35how much of a lottery it is.That absolutely right. You cannot make an
4:36:35 > 4:36:42educated judgment because it is out of their hands. Talk about
4:36:42 > 4:36:45slopestyle contests being you versus the mountain, not against anyone
4:36:45 > 4:36:54else but this is then versus mother nature.
4:36:56 > 4:37:04Nice. Always good to hear a sound effect over the rail.Absolutely
4:37:04 > 4:37:10going for it. Now coming up short this time. Lovely.Really, really
4:37:10 > 4:37:16good. Big crosswind but no headwind at the moment. Still a crosswind,
4:37:16 > 4:37:28even a tailwind. Oh! Unbelievable. The commitment was there. It looked
4:37:28 > 4:37:33like she was setting up for the double at the end, the way it was
4:37:33 > 4:37:39setting off, you just opened up at the end. This is the first time I've
4:37:39 > 4:37:44commentated on the wind as opposed to the snowboarding. You would be
4:37:44 > 4:37:52great on country file!
4:37:53 > 4:38:01Aimee Fuller says let's do this. Certainly at the moment the windsock
4:38:01 > 4:38:10is saying it is good. Let's see how she can go on the rails. 50-50 all
4:38:10 > 4:38:21the way to the end, great start. Nice. All the way through the double
4:38:21 > 4:38:25Kent.Little nose press on the final section of the Kent rail. Through
4:38:25 > 4:38:35the rails nice and smooth.Snapped to the backside one a day.Good
4:38:35 > 4:38:40grab. Come on Aimee
4:38:40 > 4:38:44to the backside one a day.Good grab. Come on Aimee.Sends it really
4:38:44 > 4:38:57on with the backside 360. Again she has gone huge.I hope she is OK.
4:38:57 > 4:39:05What a shame. Too much speed. That picture says it all. There is a
4:39:05 > 4:39:11snowstorm, a blizzard almost happening down at the bottom.You
4:39:11 > 4:39:32have to feel for her.Gutted. 24-year-old
4:39:32 > 4:39:3524-year-old goofy-foot Brooke Voigt of Canada. She has had all her
4:39:35 > 4:39:38biggest successes at home.
4:39:50 > 4:39:54Needs to land this first jump under way she goes, hopefully. That seems
4:39:54 > 4:40:00to be the key, if you get the first one in the bag you get the momentum.
4:40:00 > 4:40:05The adrenaline pumping.
4:40:05 > 4:40:09The adrenaline pumping.Slipping off the take-off first time, lovely,
4:40:09 > 4:40:17goofy-foot puts down the front side 720. Two full spends.
4:40:18 > 4:40:26720. Two full spends. -- spins. The disappointment there.They are
4:40:26 > 4:40:33struggling to gauge the spins. It's hard to determine how much you give
4:40:33 > 4:40:41it on the take-off.Back up to the top. One of the taller riders,
4:40:41 > 4:40:45traditionally done well in Europe. Had a couple of great results of the
4:40:45 > 4:41:00European open. One of the first riders to have a cab nine.
4:41:02 > 4:41:10Dropped in switch, half cab, 50-50. Nice and tidy.Yeah. It's good to
4:41:10 > 4:41:15add those, I have found that contests it's always good to add
4:41:15 > 4:41:20grabs off the rails because you get the extra points. When it is close
4:41:20 > 4:41:23and you are fighting for points you don't know how much of a difference
4:41:23 > 4:41:28that little extra half will make at the end. On a day like this probably
4:41:28 > 4:41:38quite a lot. Smart move, went long and low. Plenty of
4:41:38 > 4:41:42and low. Plenty of speed, oh!Same again, did that on the second jump
4:41:42 > 4:41:46and was too short. She even tried to use the bottom of the jump to get as
4:41:46 > 4:41:50much speed as she could for the second jump that time and still it
4:41:50 > 4:41:55wasn't enough.
4:41:56 > 4:42:00wasn't enough. Crazy.You can see a spiral of snow, a little mini
4:42:00 > 4:42:05tornado.
4:42:14 > 4:42:19Next Hailey Langland. The lovely arc around, tapping the corner of the
4:42:19 > 4:42:27close-out rail. That's a good line, nobody else is doing it. Not as tidy
4:42:27 > 4:42:30as she would have wanted to be on the double kink. Almost surfing into
4:42:30 > 4:42:41the first to feature to kill the speed. Nothing functional about it.
4:42:41 > 4:42:47Lovely double grab frontside 360. Come on. Just made it over the
4:42:47 > 4:42:58knuckle. She's got enough speed. And look at how stoked she is. The
4:42:58 > 4:43:03Americans cheering very justifiably. One of the smallest and lightest
4:43:03 > 4:43:13riders in the field has landed a full run.Nice on the last jump.
4:43:13 > 4:43:19Over rotates the board but manages to keep her shoulders square. She
4:43:19 > 4:43:25has got an amazing method. Much better than mine!Better than a lot
4:43:25 > 4:43:32of people!Do you think it is top three?Definitely top three, for me.
4:43:32 > 4:43:38The only question is whether it's... A gold medal. I don't think it is. I
4:43:38 > 4:43:49think, I actually think it might be silver.Just off!Fourth place.
4:43:49 > 4:43:57That's a shame.So Jessika Jenson stays in third place.
4:44:00 > 4:44:05stays in third place. The Canadian Laurie Blouin. She can do the cab
4:44:05 > 4:44:0999.It's not about your best tricks here, I think it's what you can put
4:44:09 > 4:44:14together under the circumstances which is interesting, comparing and
4:44:14 > 4:44:21contrasting, Laurie Blouin with Hailey Langland. Hailey Langland
4:44:21 > 4:44:29really fluid between each feature. Sitting back a tiny bit. This is
4:44:29 > 4:44:40where it counts.Held on.Just making it over the knuckle.Go! Into
4:44:40 > 4:44:45the last jump.
4:44:45 > 4:44:54the last jump. Switch 540. She got it. Another landed run.
4:44:54 > 4:44:59it. Another landed run. 55 at the end. It's a good run.It's really
4:44:59 > 4:45:04solid. I think she could be knocking on the door of Jessika Jenson in
4:45:04 > 4:45:12bronze medal position.I think so. This was really nice. Big as well.
4:45:12 > 4:45:22And that is what we are looking for, you know? There you go, second. The
4:45:22 > 4:45:28Black eye sustained in training, second place. I think for Laurie
4:45:28 > 4:45:37Blouin a result. Next one of my favourite writers and women's -- one
4:45:37 > 4:45:40of my favourite riders in women's snowboarding at the moment, the
4:45:40 > 4:45:44young Kiwi rookie.
4:45:45 > 4:45:48Can she give the New Zealander something to cheer?
4:45:58 > 4:46:09She was looking for 270.Even if you make the slightest mistake up top
4:46:09 > 4:46:15you can still do it. You just have to carry on with the run.No
4:46:15 > 4:46:23confidence in the kicker speed. And I feel for Zoi Sadowski Synnott
4:46:23 > 4:46:26because she undoubtedly has the skills and courage to take on a
4:46:26 > 4:46:34course like this. There you go. As if to prove the point she double
4:46:34 > 4:46:42backflips. That was amazing. The best trick we have seen so far. She
4:46:42 > 4:46:51makes the double backflip look easy. Maybe a little nod to what we can
4:46:51 > 4:47:04expect in the Big Air on February 20 four. That was perfect.
4:47:10 > 4:47:1748. Not bad for missing the first jump. Now one of the riders who
4:47:17 > 4:47:25really was not happy about this course after the first run, silver
4:47:25 > 4:47:33medallist in Sochi, Enni Rukajarvi. I think on a day like today best to
4:47:33 > 4:47:38keep it simple.Lovely rainbow transition and then coming through
4:47:38 > 4:47:48the hardest section.Over the close out.Perfect. Really nice. Then
4:47:48 > 4:47:55using that classic line across the rail. Setting up switch for the
4:47:55 > 4:48:03first take-off. Lovely.
4:48:05 > 4:48:14first take-off. Lovely.She has gone big.This is looking good.
4:48:15 > 4:48:17big.This is looking good. Frontside 360. Bounces off the knuckle and on
4:48:17 > 4:48:28the spot. Where is that? Currently in bronze medal position. And I
4:48:28 > 4:48:40think that will be the end of the medal hopes for Silje Norendal. The
4:48:40 > 4:48:49last slope style contest was ten months ago in the US Open for Anna
4:48:49 > 4:48:53Gasser and the best Slopestyle one we've ever seen in women's
4:48:53 > 4:48:58snowboarding. There's no question that she has the tricks.I think
4:48:58 > 4:49:04even if she does play it safe she has a good chance of being on the
4:49:04 > 4:49:13podium.Blazing through the rail section. That is so good. Killing
4:49:13 > 4:49:27her speed.The 50-50 nose press. That is such a hard as well.
4:49:27 > 4:49:35That is such a hard as well.Under flip. She has gone huge. Oh, my
4:49:35 > 4:49:45gosh.That is just so annoying. One of the best Slopestyle riders that
4:49:45 > 4:49:54there is.Another rider who again has the firepower of tricks to take
4:49:54 > 4:50:05this down, currently in 11th place, Julia Marino. Only one spot behind
4:50:05 > 4:50:12Jamie Anderson in the World Cup rankings. Lovely 50-50 two frontside
4:50:12 > 4:50:25360.That is one of the best top sections.Frontside 720. That wind
4:50:25 > 4:50:31again. Jamie Anderson, she knows but she has claimed the second
4:50:31 > 4:50:37consecutive Olympic gold medal.Look at her.Just enjoy it. The one thing
4:50:37 > 4:50:43I would say, silver and bronze, it could have gone anywhere but Jamie
4:50:43 > 4:50:49Anderson, the cream has risen to the top. In the Slopestyle today.
4:50:49 > 4:50:55Against the odds, against the conditions, she managed to land the
4:50:55 > 4:51:04run that she wanted. And her experience has told. She is waiting.
4:51:04 > 4:51:12Maybe she wants to do something good. I hope that she goes down and
4:51:12 > 4:51:19does methods on everything.Let's have a look. Lovely first rail. The
4:51:19 > 4:51:26only rider transferring from the big kick into the landing.Just liquid
4:51:26 > 4:51:31snowboarding.
4:51:32 > 4:51:39snowboarding.It is all muscle memory with Jamie Anderson.
4:51:39 > 4:51:50memory with Jamie Anderson. Oh, no. You think, why did you risk it.
4:51:51 > 4:51:58Method exposes that board to the wind even more. She must be so
4:51:58 > 4:52:04happy, especially in these conditions.Jamie Anderson rounding
4:52:04 > 4:52:11out the women's Slopestyle final. And her boyfriend the Canadian
4:52:11 > 4:52:14Slopestyle rider Tyler Nicholson is the first man in the finish area to
4:52:14 > 4:52:21congratulate her. And Jamie Anderson crowns what has been a very well
4:52:21 > 4:52:30decorated career. With a second gold medal. Unreal. That tells more of
4:52:30 > 4:52:35the story of today in the finish area, with the wind whistling
4:52:35 > 4:52:38through this halfpipe course. And the courage of the women should be
4:52:38 > 4:52:47saluted. Jamie Anderson, Laurie Blouin, Enni Rukajarvi taking gold,
4:52:47 > 4:52:52silver and bronze.Double Olympic champion, how does that feel?
4:52:52 > 4:52:56Honestly feels insane. I mean, of course I believe in myself and I
4:52:56 > 4:53:02have dreams and goals. The level of riding has changed so much in the
4:53:02 > 4:53:06last couple of years, it was not nearly as much as in Sochi when I
4:53:06 > 4:53:12knew I had a good chance. Here I had no idea, so many girls could land a
4:53:12 > 4:53:17run and win the contest. So I just let it go.At the end of the day it
4:53:17 > 4:53:21is the Olympic final and everyone wanted to ride. It is not how I
4:53:21 > 4:53:25would've expected and how I had planned and how I had visualised for
4:53:25 > 4:53:30years of work to go into today. I think if you're lucky the wind there
4:53:30 > 4:53:37had some cam windows but the majority was super inconsistent. I
4:53:37 > 4:53:42do not think it was a true show of female Slopestyle. Which is a shame
4:53:42 > 4:53:46for the sport but at the end of the day we have got big Air next week so
4:53:46 > 4:53:50we just have to pick ourselves back up and stay strong, have a good rest
4:53:50 > 4:53:50and
4:53:50 > 4:53:53up and stay strong, have a good rest and recovery and go hard next week.
4:53:53 > 4:54:00Aimee Fuller officially 17.
4:54:00 > 4:54:03Aimee Fuller officially 17. You watched all of that and looking back
4:54:03 > 4:54:07just five riders made it through the first run without crashing. And in
4:54:07 > 4:54:13total line of 52 runs completed without a crash. Should it have gone
4:54:13 > 4:54:18ahead is the big question? It is controversial, I think the decision
4:54:18 > 4:54:22for me I would definitely said no. Especially when they cancelled the
4:54:22 > 4:54:27giant slalom event when they do not even leave the ground. Slopestyle a
4:54:27 > 4:54:32lot of the time you're in the air and these deaths are up to 45
4:54:32 > 4:54:37kilometres an hour. About 28 miles an hour. Exactly. So they have no
4:54:37 > 4:54:42way to calculate the speed. That is why you've seen so many of them
4:54:42 > 4:54:46coming up short or overshooting or giving up on the run. So it has been
4:54:46 > 4:54:51so difficult to showcase the sport which is sad. This will give
4:54:51 > 4:54:55everyone a little picture of how difficult it was. You have trained
4:54:55 > 4:55:00and practised, four years of your life for this but at what point in a
4:55:00 > 4:55:05training regime would you say OK, it is now too windy embryo going to
4:55:05 > 4:55:11stop from a safety perspective.I think it should have been up to the
4:55:11 > 4:55:15coaches as well as the riders to actually said that they should have
4:55:15 > 4:55:20pulled the competition and moved onto another day I think also it
4:55:20 > 4:55:24goes by some of the injuries. If you start getting some of the athletes
4:55:24 > 4:55:27injured during training or even in the competition. Because of the
4:55:27 > 4:55:33conditions. Then I think that is a call-out to say to stop.Ten, 15
4:55:33 > 4:55:39miles an hour about right? That is probably on the border and when you
4:55:39 > 4:55:43get past that that is when things start to change. So all things
4:55:43 > 4:55:49considered therefore how impressive and how advanced was the use of
4:55:49 > 4:55:54Knauss from Jamie Anderson for the first run?Jamie Anderson is so
4:55:54 > 4:56:00experienced and really she has used her experience in conditions like
4:56:00 > 4:56:04this in the past to put down a simple run. The model was not
4:56:04 > 4:56:08exactly easy, she just has these tricks on lock. She knows how to do
4:56:08 > 4:56:14these and it is like her muscle memory is perfect. She knows how to
4:56:14 > 4:56:18do everything, she's very chilled. She looks very relaxed during the
4:56:18 > 4:56:23run and she just manages to put down a really simple but effective run to
4:56:23 > 4:56:30win the gold medal at bay. Up she goes. And this is her victory lap.
4:56:30 > 4:56:34Not the one you would want but it did not matter in the end. Two gold
4:56:34 > 4:56:39medals for her. And as for Aimee Fuller of Great Britain, she was one
4:56:39 > 4:56:46of many who did not manage to complete. And she eventually
4:56:46 > 4:56:50finished in 17th. In terms of her performance, how will she reflect
4:56:50 > 4:56:55knowing that she was not alone in those conditions?I've seen some
4:56:55 > 4:57:01interviews with today and she looks disappointed. I think she did want
4:57:01 > 4:57:05to showcase some of her new tricks. As well as many of the other riders.
4:57:05 > 4:57:10You can see on her face that she will just have to let this one go
4:57:10 > 4:57:14and move on to the air. Big Air a very exciting addition. It is. We
4:57:14 > 4:57:20have one of the biggest Big Air platforms that has ever existed. So
4:57:20 > 4:57:26it will be a very big jump in South Korea.Thank you very much. And
