0:00:38 > 0:00:43The weather has played its part here again in Pyeongchang, we have had

0:00:43 > 0:00:50the postponement of the women's slalom which means we are waiting to

0:00:50 > 0:00:54see Mikaela Shifrin take to the slopes. Alex Tilley and Charlie

0:00:54 > 0:00:59Guest in the line up for that, which will now take place on Friday.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03There is still lots happening away from the Alpine Centre and here is

0:01:03 > 0:01:14what to look forward to on day five. Great Britain's men's and women's

0:01:14 > 0:01:18curling rinks get their Olympic campaigns under way, we will see the

0:01:18 > 0:01:22action as both teams take to the ice.

0:01:22 > 0:01:27We have what promises to be a sensational men's pipe final as

0:01:27 > 0:01:32Shaun White looks for Olympic redemption as he takes on

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Australia's World Champion Scotty James.

0:01:36 > 0:01:42We are at the Gangneung Ice Arena as the pairs competition gets under way

0:01:42 > 0:01:48with the short programme. And we will take in the normal hill

0:01:48 > 0:01:54Nordic come pined -- combined. An incredible test of endurance.

0:01:54 > 0:01:59Welcome to our balcony here, it is a pretty murky old day here in

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Pyeongchang, the weather causing a few problem, that Nordic combined

0:02:03 > 0:02:07facing a delay at the moment, but we are hoping that will get under way

0:02:07 > 0:02:11shortly. I have been up that ski jump. It is terrifying, I don't know

0:02:11 > 0:02:17how they do it. We will start with something although perhaps less

0:02:17 > 0:02:20frightening it doesn't lack excitement. Every body loves

0:02:20 > 0:02:24curling. It is no fluke that the men's and women's competitions get

0:02:24 > 0:02:31under way on Valentine's Day. It is a round-robin format. Each team will

0:02:31 > 0:02:35play the other nine teams once with the top four going into a knock out

0:02:35 > 0:02:38semifinals, if you were watching on BBC One you will know that Great

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Britain's women are already under way, they are playing the Olympic

0:02:42 > 0:02:48athletes of Russia at the moment. So let us head back live and join your

0:02:48 > 0:02:50commentary team of jockey Lockheart and Steve Cram.

0:02:50 > 0:02:51commentary team of jockey Lockheart and Steve Cram.

0:02:51 > 0:02:56Thank you. -- Jackie. The skip of the Great Britain team. It has been

0:02:56 > 0:03:02a great start to them after the first three ends leading 5-1. Now

0:03:02 > 0:03:07this fourth end, where OAR have the hammer, again is playing out pretty

0:03:07 > 0:03:11well for Great Britain. As you can see, so Great Britain

0:03:11 > 0:03:17sitting two here. Just one stone left for 've

0:03:17 > 0:03:22Muirhead. OAR are struggling to find their shots. It is partly because

0:03:22 > 0:03:28Great Britain have started well. All four players doing their job. And

0:03:28 > 0:03:31this experienced British women's team want to emulate the men, get

0:03:31 > 0:03:37off to a winning start. The men coming through in a very close match

0:03:37 > 0:03:41versus Switzerland earlier on today, that was awe crucial win in the

0:03:41 > 0:03:45sense that Switzerland and Canada, their two opponents, two of the

0:03:45 > 0:03:49better team, that was a cracking result for the men. So far so good

0:03:49 > 0:03:56for the women. So what are Russia, excuse me, OAR,

0:03:56 > 0:04:00what are they looking at here?I think they want to hit that yellow

0:04:00 > 0:04:05we see on the one foot beside the Olympic rings there, if they can

0:04:05 > 0:04:11possibly catch the back yellow as well, but, main objective here is to

0:04:11 > 0:04:15keep a shooter in the house. They are just checking the angles here.

0:04:15 > 0:04:21We have seen two or three little delicate shots played before the TV

0:04:21 > 0:04:25cam back to join us there, it was all in the forefoot. You can see the

0:04:25 > 0:04:36sort of game she is having so far, the skip for OAR, Victoria Moiseeva,

0:04:36 > 0:04:40who is only shooting 42%. When the skip is not firing it makes

0:04:40 > 0:04:43everybody's job more difficult. She can catch this on the nose. That is

0:04:43 > 0:04:49jammed on to the back one.Plan B there, that is the story of their

0:04:49 > 0:04:53game so far, they have never really got the A game out. They are playing

0:04:53 > 0:04:58their B game at the moment. She has hit the stone and left it in front

0:04:58 > 0:05:05of the GB yellow, but this should be an easy push through for 've. --

0:05:05 > 0:05:10eve. Whoa will lie two yellow counters.

0:05:10 > 0:05:18-- who will lie two yellow counters. Even if she gets this shot, there is

0:05:18 > 0:05:24still the opportunity for the OAR to lift a double and get their two

0:05:24 > 0:05:29here, but being 5-1 the object is to force one, if she loses a two it is

0:05:29 > 0:05:33not a disaster. She will still be two ahead with the hammer going into

0:05:33 > 0:05:43the fifth end. Three time Olympian Eve Muirhead.

0:05:43 > 0:05:48Medallist last time. A lot of expectation, Great Britain aren't

0:05:48 > 0:05:53going to win too many medals at the Olympics, the curling in the women's

0:05:53 > 0:05:57team seems one which they have high hopes for. Another good shot from

0:05:57 > 0:06:04Eve Muirhead. Well done.

0:06:04 > 0:06:10What they keep doing here, is they are playing their shots, not having

0:06:10 > 0:06:15to be brilliant all the time. But they are asking the question of in

0:06:15 > 0:06:19particular the OAR skip Moiseeva, because she struggled, even with one

0:06:19 > 0:06:25or two similar shot, she had a straightforward draw, just into the

0:06:25 > 0:06:29house, earlier and came up short. You couldn't really have had an

0:06:29 > 0:06:35easier shotNo, she hasn't been performing the shots she needs to,

0:06:35 > 0:06:38the skip, there is nobody coming behind you, you have to be able to

0:06:38 > 0:06:42pull the shots out of the bag, so we are going to see her trying to lift

0:06:42 > 0:06:47the double. She has to go for the one out on the wing, the one not

0:06:47 > 0:06:51nearest the shot if she wants to get the double. She can't go for it the

0:06:51 > 0:06:58other way, she has overthrown that and given up one.Well, anybody in a

0:06:58 > 0:07:02top level sport, you almost feel for them when they are, it is not about

0:07:02 > 0:07:08being unlucky or you know, playing a risky shot, just the basics, and she

0:07:08 > 0:07:11is certainly not managing even to hit that level at the moment. And

0:07:11 > 0:07:17that is very good news for Great Britain, so now after four ends,

0:07:17 > 0:07:26they are leading OAR 6-1. If you are just getting up early in

0:07:26 > 0:07:30the morning back home, curling of course, no British team in the mixed

0:07:30 > 0:07:34curling which concluded last night when Canada won the gold medal.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Versus Switzerland. No surprise there really. OAR were delighted to

0:07:38 > 0:07:44pick up the bronze. They had high hopes of this women's team. They are

0:07:44 > 0:07:48certainly capable on their day of beating anybody.

0:07:48 > 0:07:55But so far for them, this first match is, well, it is not one they

0:07:55 > 0:08:00will want to remember, but I guess unlike the mixed doubles where you

0:08:00 > 0:08:07would keep convincing me we would like at a 6-1 score and think they

0:08:07 > 0:08:11can still turn this round, something would have to go horribly wrong

0:08:11 > 0:08:15between over the next three or four ends for this to turn round.Yes,

0:08:15 > 0:08:20they have to play the simple shots, easy, they don't have to get into

0:08:20 > 0:08:25any difficulty. And they have been playing very well. The mistakes have

0:08:25 > 0:08:30all been coming from the OAR, and when they have made a mistake our

0:08:30 > 0:08:36goodbye girls have capitalised. -- GB. We will have to key keep an

0:08:36 > 0:08:40eye on everyone else. Japan have got off to a great start against the

0:08:40 > 0:08:48USA. They lead 7-1. Sweden are playing Denmark. Sweden lead 3-1 and

0:08:48 > 0:08:52China are 3-1 up against Switzerland.

0:08:52 > 0:08:57A lot of these teams know each other so well, played against each other

0:08:57 > 0:09:06regularly. Korea and Canada not playing in this

0:09:06 > 0:09:11first session, ten teams of course. Only eight can be competing at any

0:09:11 > 0:09:22one time. Four sheets. Despite the home nation not being on

0:09:22 > 0:09:25show, I reckon we are about 75% full in here.

0:09:25 > 0:09:35Middle of the afternoon. Few Union Jacks around.

0:09:37 > 0:09:45Few Union Jacks around. Is so Lauren Gray. Got things off to a good

0:09:45 > 0:09:50start, and as the lead, she tries to get herself off to a good start in

0:09:50 > 0:10:01each end.Yes, it is a key position to play the lead stones here. Where

0:10:01 > 0:10:04Lauren places them really will set off what the strategy will be for

0:10:04 > 0:10:08the rest of the game. And that is OK, she was trying to

0:10:08 > 0:10:13get that just a built further in, across that center line, to protect

0:10:13 > 0:10:17her stone there, so she stopped a little bit short but it is still on

0:10:17 > 0:10:24the center line, something to be used later on.

0:10:25 > 0:10:32If you are 6-1 after just four ends, what is your strategy? She is going

0:10:32 > 0:10:36to have to throw everything at it, including the kitchen sink. She has

0:10:36 > 0:10:41got to start putting shots up in front, not always racing to the

0:10:41 > 0:10:47centre first. High is good, so they can tap them and it will be about

0:10:47 > 0:10:52the delicate tip and tap shots that I have to play here.

0:10:52 > 0:10:57-- they have to play here. She had the opportunity when she has

0:10:57 > 0:11:02put a corner on to use a corner, she hasn't used it at all.I don't know

0:11:02 > 0:11:07why she is bringing stuff into the one foot here, she would have been

0:11:07 > 0:11:11better putting a corner behind the shot there, Eve is going to clear

0:11:11 > 0:11:19the corners now, and they will blast everything down that centre.

0:11:19 > 0:11:24A bit of inexperience I think, she certainly strategic wise not playing

0:11:24 > 0:11:30the shots I think she probably should. Almost a wonderful shot

0:11:30 > 0:11:34there, she really wanted to although she put the stone there herself, but

0:11:34 > 0:11:37because it is protecting the red stone she would have been happy to

0:11:37 > 0:11:48remove it. You hear Vicki saying she didn't

0:11:48 > 0:11:54know that was the shot she was going for. You have to make split

0:11:54 > 0:11:57decisions quickly depending how your players have released the stone.

0:11:57 > 0:12:07There was an opportunity to clear the front and Eve1 tried.

0:12:07 > 0:12:13the front and Eve1 tried.So this is Arsekina playing second.

0:12:13 > 0:12:18Took part in the world university games last year, they won a silver

0:12:18 > 0:12:29medal. European gold, back in 2016. Just going to get by? It does.

0:12:31 > 0:12:36I am sitting here trying to work out, apart from one or two sort of

0:12:36 > 0:12:41fairly normal shots I am struggling to think of any good, a good shot,

0:12:41 > 0:12:45where OAR achieved what they were after, you know, and just really

0:12:45 > 0:12:49haven't got anything going for themselves.They are just making a

0:12:49 > 0:12:56little half shots at the moment. That is a good way of describing it.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00I was wondering in curling, in a lot of other team sports, if you talk

0:13:00 > 0:13:04about football, the way the Brazilians play, the Dutch play, the

0:13:04 > 0:13:10Germans play, is there in curling is there a, OAR or China or Japan, is

0:13:10 > 0:13:17there a certain style?That is a good question, because I think the

0:13:17 > 0:13:21Swedish girls often played lots and lots of what we could call a half

0:13:21 > 0:13:25way, a very controlled way, whereas a lot of the other European

0:13:25 > 0:13:29countries played heavy, and I think as times progressed all the other

0:13:29 > 0:13:33countries realised if you can play and deliver your stone at least half

0:13:33 > 0:13:37way you have a better chance of a better result, rather than you throw

0:13:37 > 0:13:40it up really heavy and you hit and roll out, they were hitting and

0:13:40 > 0:13:43rolling still into the house, so a lot of the European teams have taken

0:13:43 > 0:13:47up that strategy now and they are playing a much more delicate tapping

0:13:47 > 0:13:58weight. Annette Norburg was renowned for

0:13:58 > 0:14:08playing that easy way and they played it so well.Easy-osey?Yes, a

0:14:08 > 0:14:16Scottish word. Two words. You learn something every day.

0:14:16 > 0:14:24I am not sure that is anything you want to be learning from me!

0:14:24 > 0:14:28So that is not a bad shot, because what she has done is she has opened

0:14:28 > 0:14:35up and moved all of her red stones. Not possible to remove all of them,

0:14:35 > 0:14:44so Eve has to decide which two she wants to take.

0:14:46 > 0:14:52wants to take. She is just seeing if there is a chance, well, she said it

0:14:52 > 0:14:56herself there, the flat, the three. It is much easier to get a double if

0:14:56 > 0:14:59one of the stones is sitting slightly higher than the other and

0:14:59 > 0:15:04you can roll off it and across. When they are flat you have to have

0:15:04 > 0:15:08powerful deliveries to get the momentum to catch the sideways move,

0:15:08 > 0:15:16to take the other shot out.Might have a chance here, has to hang on

0:15:16 > 0:15:19to the edge and just got one. Unlucky.

0:15:19 > 0:15:25Went underneath it. This is an opportunity here for OAR, it is a

0:15:25 > 0:15:31first time in a while we have seen them in control. But again, when

0:15:31 > 0:15:35they had a chance, trying to think which end it was, and well apart

0:15:35 > 0:15:39from the fact she, on the end where the skip didn't even draw into the

0:15:39 > 0:15:43house, they have had a couple of half chances before, not able to

0:15:43 > 0:15:48Captain lose his.

0:15:56 > 0:16:11So, this should just be a simple draw. The space between all of these

0:16:11 > 0:16:23red shots, much wider than they were before.

0:16:23 > 0:16:32before. A little possibility of a double off

0:16:32 > 0:16:38double off that one, the other one is a little bit five. Second chance

0:16:38 > 0:16:47here for Anna to get her double. Anna has played some pretty good

0:16:47 > 0:16:59shots, there has been a couple of times they have not come off 100%.

0:17:02 > 0:17:12That's perfect.Nicely done, double takeout for Anna Sloan.Great team

0:17:12 > 0:17:19to Munich Asian in this team.

0:17:19 > 0:17:27to Munich Asian in this team. -- great team communication.

0:17:29 > 0:17:37STEVE CRAM: We were talking earlier about OAR getting two, but... Again,

0:17:37 > 0:17:48similar story, you don't mind, two at 5-1 or 6-1.

0:17:48 > 0:17:58JACKIE LOCKHART: Yes, but we have to execute every shot.

0:17:58 > 0:18:02execute every shot. Eve Muirhead likes to play the doubles and the

0:18:02 > 0:18:11ankles, so she will be looking to come off the red out on the wing and

0:18:11 > 0:18:20take out the one in the centre as well.

0:18:20 > 0:18:25Well, Eve Muirhead has been playing very well so far. She has not had to

0:18:25 > 0:18:29make any spectacular shots, really. She has done what she has had to do

0:18:29 > 0:18:36very well indeed. So, looking to remove both of these OAR stones.

0:18:36 > 0:18:45Keeping the pressure on.

0:18:45 > 0:18:53Keeping the pressure on.All about lying here. Oh, dear! Just overthrew

0:18:53 > 0:19:02that and missed completely.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05that and missed completely.Well, that's the first little slip-up from

0:19:05 > 0:19:14the British team, and in particular from Eve.She looks a little bit

0:19:14 > 0:19:20bewildered by that shot there, it probably didn't move as much as she

0:19:20 > 0:19:24thought it was going to. She has to keep calm, though, that's just one

0:19:24 > 0:19:32small error. She has another stone to try and rectify it with.Look at

0:19:32 > 0:19:42this, though, the accuracy of the OAR skip, 25% on draws. Not good at

0:19:42 > 0:19:49all. But she just has to make this shot.

0:19:55 > 0:20:01This is heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy...Oh, it's another poor, poor

0:20:01 > 0:20:07shot. Yeah, she came up short before and it must have been still in her

0:20:07 > 0:20:12mind any this time... I'm beginning to feel more and more sorry for her.

0:20:12 > 0:20:16I shouldn't, but you don't like to see any player in any sport really

0:20:16 > 0:20:25struggling at this level, or to the extent that she is. So, wasn't a

0:20:25 > 0:20:29great shot from Eve Muirhead, and followed up by one which was if

0:20:29 > 0:20:39anything even worse, a lot worse, from the OAR skip. Yes, she just has

0:20:39 > 0:20:46to make sure she had the one closest to the centre. And forces, then, the

0:20:46 > 0:21:03OAR skip to hit and lie for two.So, Eve Muirhead, then, again, this

0:21:03 > 0:21:08should be fairly straightforward and simple for the OAR skip to come

0:21:08 > 0:21:14down, tap that British stone out and pick up two shots just but she's

0:21:14 > 0:21:20finding everything belay the most basic shots, difficult. We're into

0:21:20 > 0:21:27the fifth end here, Britain leading 6-1 at the moment. OAR trying to

0:21:27 > 0:21:33respond, trying to get SOMETHING going, desperately hoping that

0:21:33 > 0:21:41Garnett can get this right.

0:21:41 > 0:21:47Garnett can get this right. -- desperately hoping that Moiseeva can

0:21:47 > 0:21:53get this right. It's going to stay in the house, so two there for

0:21:53 > 0:21:59Olympic Athletes from Russia. And Vicky Sloan was just having a little

0:21:59 > 0:22:03look to see if she could help it on its way but it was good enough for

0:22:03 > 0:22:09her to stay in for the two. So, they reduce the deficit somewhat. Great

0:22:09 > 0:22:13Britain, though, in a wonderful position at the halfway point in

0:22:13 > 0:22:21this match, leading OAR 6-4 a after five ends. So, a great start by

0:22:21 > 0:22:25Britain's women, skippered by Eve Muirhead, now in her third Olympics,

0:22:25 > 0:22:29and they have high hopes for a medal. European Champions Cup and

0:22:29 > 0:22:33world bronze medallists and they picked up the bronze in Sochi. Lets

0:22:33 > 0:22:42meet the girls going for Pyeongchang gold.

0:22:49 > 0:22:53We went into Sochi as current world champions and I guess having that on

0:22:53 > 0:22:57your CV is always going to make it a little bit tougher for you, you're

0:22:57 > 0:23:02always going to add some pressure. There was expectations but it is a

0:23:02 > 0:23:06bubbly more what we put on ourselves because we know that we have beaten

0:23:06 > 0:23:09everyone there, so it is really who is going to play better for that we

0:23:09 > 0:23:14come and STEVE CRAM: They've fought so hard,

0:23:14 > 0:23:18and this, potentially her last stone of this match...It has got a

0:23:18 > 0:23:23chance... And that's a nice shot from Eve Muirhead!The pressure made

0:23:23 > 0:23:28us know that we could perform at that high-level. It made us know we

0:23:28 > 0:23:31WERE the best team in the world, and we were capable of hitting the

0:23:31 > 0:23:39podium.This, to close out the match against Great Britain... Having to

0:23:39 > 0:23:46work it hard...! Really hard...! Is it going to get there?! I think it

0:23:46 > 0:23:53is! And Canada have won it!When we lost that semifinal I'm not going to

0:23:53 > 0:23:58lie it was probably the most overstating moment in my career.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02Losing that semifinal was definitely the hardest loss, and at the time we

0:24:02 > 0:24:05thought, this is a really quick turnover, but that's probably what

0:24:05 > 0:24:13helped us in the end. They are the world champions, and now they could

0:24:13 > 0:24:17be the Olympic bronze medallists if this stone is right from Eve

0:24:17 > 0:24:22Muirhead. It is going to get there! And the brushes go in the air! And

0:24:22 > 0:24:28Britain have won the bronze medal! To come home with a medal was

0:24:28 > 0:24:30outstanding, line was still really pleased with that, but now I've got

0:24:30 > 0:24:35a taste of that Olympic podium and all I want to do is build my way up

0:24:35 > 0:24:39there.Obviously, we've got a bit of unfinished business, getting the

0:24:39 > 0:24:43bronze medal was amazing, but you always want to do better. So, we

0:24:43 > 0:24:50have to break it down into each game, and then once we get to

0:24:50 > 0:24:53hopefully the play-off stages, that's a brand-new competition.

0:24:53 > 0:24:58We're feeling like we're in a good place at the moment. We've been

0:24:58 > 0:25:00working very, very hard-headed that's something I have to

0:25:00 > 0:25:04constantly say to people about curling - it is much harder than it

0:25:04 > 0:25:09looks. And we wouldn't have to train so much to be at the top of the game

0:25:09 > 0:25:15if it wasn't. We had a great win at the European Championships.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18COMMENTATOR: Scotland, gold medallists here in Switzerland...

0:25:18 > 0:25:24The gold medal at the Olympics is the only gold medal I am missing in

0:25:24 > 0:25:27my collection, so for me it would mean a lot of very, very hard work

0:25:27 > 0:25:32has paid off. And I have put in a tonne of work to get to the position

0:25:32 > 0:25:36I'm in just now. To stand on the top of the podium would be something

0:25:36 > 0:25:46extra, extra special.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50The girls have medical us. So far and they're currently leading the

0:25:50 > 0:25:55Olympic athletes of Russia sixthree, so let's get back to Steve Cram and

0:25:55 > 0:26:02Jackie Lockhart.

0:26:02 > 0:26:06STEVE CRAM: Thanks, and we are just discussing made breaks next. We're

0:26:06 > 0:26:11just noting the quality of the snacks from the two teams! Grapes on

0:26:11 > 0:26:18a stick - who has grapes on a?! The OAR team were being handed their

0:26:18 > 0:26:23bits of fruit! JACKIE LOCKHART: They're all busy

0:26:23 > 0:26:28getting refuelled. But at the same time their coaches are checking

0:26:28 > 0:26:34strategy for the next five ends. There was actually a lot of smiles

0:26:34 > 0:26:38with the OAR team, they weren't too stressed, they've been playing

0:26:38 > 0:26:45poorly, particularly the skip. You can see some of the statistics from

0:26:45 > 0:26:51the first five ends.

0:26:51 > 0:26:54the first five ends. But they can't lie about the scoreboard, it doesn't

0:26:54 > 0:27:03necessarily matter about the statistics. That young

0:27:03 > 0:27:05statistics. That young lady there, Victoria Moiseeva, has been really

0:27:05 > 0:27:09struggling. If you're just getting up to this, it has been a good

0:27:09 > 0:27:13start, OAR have responded and have had chances to score more but at

0:27:13 > 0:27:19least they picked up two there. So, it has been a good start for the

0:27:19 > 0:27:23British team. The British men are meanwhile managed to win over

0:27:23 > 0:27:27Switzerland in the first section of the men's competition, a excellent

0:27:27 > 0:27:32start for the British men. Duff first day for them - mustn't three

0:27:32 > 0:27:37sessions every day. This is the middle session in the women's

0:27:37 > 0:27:40competition and the men will be back again this evening as well in the

0:27:40 > 0:27:50arena here. So, Victoria Moiseeva, the lead for OAR. Lauren Gray for

0:27:50 > 0:27:58Great Britain. Lauren was the alternate four years ago in Sochi.

0:27:58 > 0:28:03Even as the alternate, Jackie, you still get a lot of experience, being

0:28:03 > 0:28:08around the Olympic experience, don't you?Yeah, it is a huge opportunity

0:28:08 > 0:28:11for players if they get the opportunity to be a fifth man,

0:28:11 > 0:28:16because you find out what it is like at eight championships and as Lauren

0:28:16 > 0:28:20did, she went to an Olympics and it can be nothing more than inspiring

0:28:20 > 0:28:24to know that you have been at that event and you want to be on the team

0:28:24 > 0:28:30actually down there playing - and that's exactly what she did. Lauren

0:28:30 > 0:28:34in her own right was a skip for a long, long time and then played

0:28:34 > 0:28:41fifth man for Eve and then decided to join the team after Eve asked her

0:28:41 > 0:28:46to play lead, a key role in any game, the lead. The position of the

0:28:46 > 0:28:50stone is critical. As soon as we start talking about Lauren, she's

0:28:50 > 0:28:56just had a shocker! So, her first stone going straight through. Great

0:28:56 > 0:29:06Britain with the hammer in this sixth end. After the fifth end

0:29:06 > 0:29:09break, you kind of relaxed, you stood with your coaches, you've been

0:29:09 > 0:29:15eating and chatting

0:29:16 > 0:29:21eating and chatting away, and the ice has been sitting for three or

0:29:21 > 0:29:24four minutes doing nothing, and you have to come onto the game with your

0:29:24 > 0:29:34focused head back on again. STEVE CRAM: So, Lauren just needs to

0:29:34 > 0:29:39concentrate here after that... Well, they're always concentrating, of

0:29:39 > 0:29:42course they are but she just needs to put that last shot out of her

0:29:42 > 0:29:49mind.That's been a lot of errors from the Olympic Athletes from

0:29:49 > 0:29:53Russia. But at the same time our girls have very much capitalised on

0:29:53 > 0:30:00every shot. And she has made up for it with her second stone, that's

0:30:00 > 0:30:05lovely, well-placed.

0:30:10 > 0:30:15You give the opportunity for the OAR to rest on it and make it difficult

0:30:15 > 0:30:21for you to remove the red stone. Galina Arsekina, 26-year-old. From

0:30:21 > 0:30:26Moscow.

0:30:27 > 0:30:31Moscow. If anything, she is probably been just about the most consistency

0:30:31 > 0:30:36of the team, of the OAR team, but this one not quite sitting on top of

0:30:36 > 0:30:40that British stone. It was a nice weight there, just the wrong line,

0:30:40 > 0:30:43she would like to have been a bit more to the right, on the center

0:30:43 > 0:30:47line, checking the yellow stone, but this is an opportunity for us to

0:30:47 > 0:30:55play a nice delicate tap, wait here, tap that through. Keep her stone top

0:30:55 > 0:31:07half of the four foot. Vicki Adams.

0:31:07 > 0:31:11She has plenty on itShe has overthrown this, it seems to be

0:31:11 > 0:31:20going out more than anything. Enough weight there to move it so, a

0:31:20 > 0:31:25bit fortunate there. Good result in the end. Not

0:31:25 > 0:31:30necessarily the best flowing stone. A little firm and she affirms

0:31:30 > 0:31:34herself. It didn't move at all. We have

0:31:34 > 0:31:37noticed that, a bit of weight and it stays pretty straight down that

0:31:37 > 0:31:42side.These girls are play on international curling ice and it has

0:31:42 > 0:31:46been very well made but often you will find it is really delicate, the

0:31:46 > 0:31:50actual weight you put, you deliver on the ice, if you put too much

0:31:50 > 0:31:55weight it will hang straight, you have really got to play nice weight,

0:31:55 > 0:32:01to get it to move. And then use your sweepers to hold it straight if

0:32:01 > 0:32:07necessary.Eve would like to get this one further back. Again, if

0:32:07 > 0:32:12curling, you are trying to Red Bull everything from four years ago, if

0:32:12 > 0:32:17that was the last time you watched, welcome back. -- remember. But the

0:32:17 > 0:32:21team who have delivered the stone can sweep it as far as they want,

0:32:21 > 0:32:28but the team who are didn't deliver, once it is past that T-line they

0:32:28 > 0:32:33can't deliver if they want to take it further back.Vicki Adams hoping

0:32:33 > 0:32:38to, that is a lovely shot. Remove both these red guards at the front,

0:32:38 > 0:32:43clear up the house. With a hammer, last stone. Want the chance to

0:32:43 > 0:32:53score.

0:32:59 > 0:33:05The key shots are the clearing guards, able to throw precise and

0:33:05 > 0:33:08heavyweight to remove two or three stones at a time.

0:33:08 > 0:33:20They are going to try and put a guard back in here.

0:33:20 > 0:33:24Olympic Athletes from Russia don't have, they are hoping for a mistake

0:33:24 > 0:33:27from Great Britain, who might hit it on the nose and leave a guard out

0:33:27 > 0:33:32the front and then they would pull one in behind it, so object of game

0:33:32 > 0:33:37here for Great Britain is to remove these guards, and your own stone as

0:33:37 > 0:33:52well.Anna Sloan playing third. Looks OK.

0:33:52 > 0:33:56Well done. Yes, as you say Steve, hopefully we

0:33:56 > 0:34:01have got some of our curling fans from four years ago back up early

0:34:01 > 0:34:06this morning, watching this game. An early start for people back home,

0:34:06 > 0:34:18but for us it's an afternoon here, in Gangneung in Korea.

0:34:18 > 0:34:20There will be young kids getting early to go to school and hopefully

0:34:20 > 0:34:23they are watching while they are having their breakfast. IsWhat a

0:34:23 > 0:34:30lovely thought. Sure everybody gets very much

0:34:30 > 0:34:35inspired by watching these top class athletes playing at their best.

0:34:35 > 0:34:39Unfortunately, the, the OAR team not quite at their best this morning,

0:34:39 > 0:34:44they haven't brought their A-game but as in the old football scenario

0:34:44 > 0:34:49it's a game of two halves and they have after the fifth end spoken to

0:34:49 > 0:34:54their coach and...I wasn't sure much was being said. They were

0:34:54 > 0:34:58definitely chatting about what they were eating, I'm not sure much else

0:34:58 > 0:35:03was being said. What could he say, you're not playing very well?I am

0:35:03 > 0:35:08sure he would be saying force the one and you have to take the two.

0:35:08 > 0:35:15There is a great shot. They aren't going to let this lead they have got

0:35:15 > 0:35:21slip away from them, that is for sure.Very quickly, there are three

0:35:21 > 0:35:26other games taking place here, Japan had a great start against USA.

0:35:26 > 0:35:32Jumped out to a 7-0 lead. It is 8-1. They have a firm hold on that match

0:35:32 > 0:35:39and Sweden against Denmark are 7-1 up. And China, over Switzerland,

0:35:39 > 0:35:464-1. So none of the matches so far in this first session of the women's

0:35:46 > 0:35:51competition are particularly close. One team dominating in all four.

0:35:51 > 0:35:58Thankfully in this one it is Great Britain.

0:35:58 > 0:36:04She didn't catch up in of that there, she was hoping to catch more

0:36:04 > 0:36:07to roll across and tap the yellow out of the house. She only got one

0:36:07 > 0:36:17of them. Great Britain with the hammer here,

0:36:17 > 0:36:25so they will be happy to split the house. So they have one on the, as

0:36:25 > 0:36:27Eve is looking at it, the left-hand side they will want to put another

0:36:27 > 0:36:32one on the right-hand side of the house as far apart as possible so

0:36:32 > 0:36:42there is no chance of a double. Great opportunity here to lie two.

0:36:46 > 0:36:50So Eve Muirhead then, trying to capitalise on what has already been

0:36:50 > 0:36:56a good performance so far. She just wants to go on the op site --

0:36:56 > 0:37:00opposite side of the house and it is on that T-line. She looks a little

0:37:00 > 0:37:06strong.Heard Vicki Adams say ten there, the girls will call numbers.

0:37:06 > 0:37:12Dear, dear, dear. That is just another little error we have seen,

0:37:12 > 0:37:16that is two missed shots there for Eve. She had it in the last end and

0:37:16 > 0:37:28that one there. We can see there, the statistics aren't miles apart,

0:37:28 > 0:37:34but more take outs being played by Great Britain. A lot more take outs,

0:37:34 > 0:37:37with a reasonable amount of successings but Eve Muirhead there

0:37:37 > 0:37:42with her draw -- success. Miles off.That was a real missed

0:37:42 > 0:37:48tonne. She had the whole of the paint as we would call it, the

0:37:48 > 0:37:56house, to land in.No point in blanking.I think they will blank,

0:37:56 > 0:37:59if he doesn't have the opportunity of a two they will want to blank.

0:37:59 > 0:38:03They want to score two and increase that lead.

0:38:03 > 0:38:06If you take your one and you perhaps give up the chance of them taking a

0:38:06 > 0:38:15two or a three off you, that is not a good call, so...We have talked

0:38:15 > 0:38:19about keeping the hammer in the even end, with this sort of lead though?

0:38:19 > 0:38:257-3?If you are really close you will try and convert the hammer,

0:38:25 > 0:38:31but, they are far enough up.So, we have been watching mixed double, I

0:38:31 > 0:38:38hope you caught some of it. A great new formatters first time at the

0:38:38 > 0:38:42Winter Olympic, in that blank end meant you would lose the hammer, we

0:38:42 > 0:38:48didn't see it happen at all, where as in this more traditional format

0:38:48 > 0:38:53means you keep control, when you are 6-3 up, as Jackie explained, that is

0:38:53 > 0:38:59a good option. So Eve deciding not to sit in and

0:38:59 > 0:39:04score. So blanking that end and we move on to the seventh. Great

0:39:04 > 0:39:10Britain retaining the hammer. And indeed retaining this 6-3 lead. We

0:39:10 > 0:39:14are happily inside here, the weather conditions as you have probably

0:39:14 > 0:39:19heard many, many events are being cancelled. High winds, I am told

0:39:19 > 0:39:23here in the press centre next to our venue here that everyone has been

0:39:23 > 0:39:29moved out of there. Bit worried are about the whole thing blowing away.

0:39:29 > 0:39:33They are tent-like structures so even at lunchtime we were a bit

0:39:33 > 0:39:36scared in the canteen. Everybody is safe inside here

0:39:36 > 0:39:46though. So with each end that progresses we

0:39:46 > 0:39:52are getting closer to finishing this ten end game here.

0:39:52 > 0:39:59This is the warmest day as well. Warm and windy.I use the term warm

0:39:59 > 0:40:07loosely.It has been very very cold. It is a few degrees above rather

0:40:07 > 0:40:11than a few degrees below. Obviously nowhere near as cold here as it has

0:40:11 > 0:40:16been up in the resorts. But it is the wind, it is the wind, it has

0:40:16 > 0:40:19been a feature of this last week, ten days.

0:40:19 > 0:40:29Not here. Well OAR then, still very much up against it here, Great

0:40:29 > 0:40:32Britain retaining the hammer. And they have probably played a tad

0:40:32 > 0:40:36better in that end, OAR. More down to particularly Eve

0:40:36 > 0:40:42that...Missed opportunity there by Eve rather than OAR. So they are

0:40:42 > 0:40:47just looking to throw one short here in the center line, that is slightly

0:40:47 > 0:40:53overcurled. She would have wanted to finish on the red line we see down

0:40:53 > 0:41:00the vertical down the house there. Great Britain will put the stones

0:41:00 > 0:41:06out to the wing.

0:41:10 > 0:41:16out to the wing. So if there is any youngsters or parents, or teenagers

0:41:16 > 0:41:21up early in the morning, watching this on the television and feel

0:41:21 > 0:41:30inspired they want to give curling a goo, then please do o go on to the

0:41:30 > 0:41:33website, put your postcode in and find an ice rink to you where you

0:41:33 > 0:41:38can have a bash, there is lots have said come and try days, if you are

0:41:38 > 0:41:43at all inspired. I know I have been this week with lots of play,

0:41:43 > 0:41:46especially the mixed doubles where we have watched. It is a new

0:41:46 > 0:41:51discipline, if you are inspired for any sport you could try BBC Get

0:41:51 > 0:41:55Inspired. It can be as little or as much as you want to do but get

0:41:55 > 0:42:01healthy with sport. Thank you for doing that Jackie. If

0:42:01 > 0:42:06nothing else gave me time to have a sneaky biscuit. Very important all

0:42:06 > 0:42:10that talk of breakfast and half-time fruit and nuts and the rest of it.

0:42:10 > 0:42:15Just a bit peckish! I think we have been lulled into a

0:42:15 > 0:42:19false sense of security. We have had lots of mixed doubles games that are

0:42:19 > 0:42:24over in an hour and 45. These team games can last anything from

0:42:24 > 0:42:29two-and-a-half to three hours. Yes, that men's match went to an

0:42:29 > 0:42:32extra end, over three hours. Against Switzerland, but the result was a

0:42:32 > 0:42:38good one. A good match actually. There was a bit of a cagey affair.

0:42:38 > 0:42:44But, nonetheless, Great Britain playing well.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47One or two ends where things weren't going quite their way but they hung

0:42:47 > 0:42:52together well and came through with a good win against a good Swiss

0:42:52 > 0:42:59team, and Great Britain's women here, continuing the good start.

0:42:59 > 0:43:03Let's not, we shouldn't underestimate this OAR team, they

0:43:03 > 0:43:07are capable of doing well this week. They will have to play better than

0:43:07 > 0:43:11they have so far. There is still an opportunity for

0:43:11 > 0:43:17this OAR team to come back in to this game. Great Britain have to be

0:43:17 > 0:43:23careful here and that stone of Lauren Gray's just slips to the back

0:43:23 > 0:43:27of the rings, she really wanted it to finish in the top half of the

0:43:27 > 0:43:33rings. This gives the opportunity for the red stones here to come

0:43:33 > 0:43:40down, sit top of her GB yellow stone.Galina Arsekina. Playing

0:43:40 > 0:43:46second. Seeing earlier on a former figure skater, a leg injury forced

0:43:46 > 0:43:50her to take up curling, couldn't skate any more, she has made this

0:43:50 > 0:43:57second position her own. It will be a little short there,

0:43:57 > 0:44:04but...Eve, she isn't going to look at that shot. She came up a bit

0:44:04 > 0:44:09short there, but Eve's stones are a danger to her, the two reds outside

0:44:09 > 0:44:15of the house here, so we have seen Vicki, second player in this team,

0:44:15 > 0:44:23key shots for them are take outs, clearing the guards.Trying to get

0:44:23 > 0:44:31both of these here. Just a bit, oh... Well, the only

0:44:31 > 0:44:36good thing was she stayed in with hers, which knocked her own stone

0:44:36 > 0:44:44out, but really thin there. Almost missing it completely.

0:44:44 > 0:44:50Did that get pushed out? It wouldn't be still there if it did. Any way,

0:44:50 > 0:44:54so Vicki may well get another chance that the front guard. Let's see what

0:44:54 > 0:45:04Arsekina does here. Going to try and put another one up.

0:45:04 > 0:45:10She has a couple of options here, she can come up short on if she

0:45:10 > 0:45:15comes intoo far she has to be sitting frozen on her own so happily

0:45:15 > 0:45:22just playing that short, to protect her shot.

0:45:25 > 0:45:30Another opportunity here for these two reds at the front to be removed.

0:45:30 > 0:45:36If you catch the right-hand side of it it should go on to the other red

0:45:36 > 0:45:42and clear both of them.Actually she wants a similar shot to the one she

0:45:42 > 0:45:45has just played, does not want to catch this too remain... Well done.

0:45:45 > 0:45:55That is better. -- too full. So, Vicki Adams helping to clear things

0:45:55 > 0:46:04out for Eve Muirhead. Seventh end, just three more after this. It could

0:46:04 > 0:46:08well be that the OAR have the hammer in the eighth and the tenth unless

0:46:08 > 0:46:15another end gets ranked. But Britain could pick up the two here, maybe

0:46:15 > 0:46:19even one would be enough but they will want to try and get two if they

0:46:19 > 0:46:23can. OAR are going to put it another guard in place.Yeah, they're

0:46:23 > 0:46:29playing very offensive here, if they don't make this guard, they could be

0:46:29 > 0:46:36in all sorts of trouble. But she has actually played it very well.

0:46:36 > 0:46:44STEVE CRAM: Again, Eve Muirhead wants rid of that. So, Anna Sloan,

0:46:44 > 0:46:49fairly straightforward shot for her. JACKIE LOCKHART: Anna Sloan, the

0:46:49 > 0:46:56only left-handed player in this team.

0:46:58 > 0:47:04team.Nothing wrong with left-handedness!No, not at all,

0:47:04 > 0:47:08actually an advantage sometimes in the game. You will notice that when

0:47:08 > 0:47:21the girls sit down on the hack, it is called, it will depend on whether

0:47:21 > 0:47:25they are right-handed or left-handed, and quite often if you

0:47:25 > 0:47:29are a left-hander, you can be on the right side of a stone to see the

0:47:29 > 0:47:36better side.

0:47:36 > 0:47:39better side. So an advantage, Steve - I take it you are a left-hander!

0:47:39 > 0:47:45Yes, I am!

0:47:45 > 0:47:48Yes, I am!They're playing these guards very well.I was just going

0:47:48 > 0:47:53to say, they're finally beginning to find the right line and weight,

0:47:53 > 0:47:59putting the guards at least where they want them to be. Anna Sloan

0:47:59 > 0:48:02trying to perform exactly the same shot as she did a minute or two ago.

0:48:02 > 0:48:14And she does it well. So, continuing here to give Eve Muirhead the

0:48:14 > 0:48:21chance, well, more than a chance, the ability to keep control of, make

0:48:21 > 0:48:27her own decision about the shot she's going to play.OAR are playing

0:48:27 > 0:48:31very dangerously here, because if they don't put this guard on at all

0:48:31 > 0:48:35there is a huge opportunity for a three here for Great Britain.And

0:48:35 > 0:48:41this is where I would get a little concerned, because the draw ability

0:48:41 > 0:48:45of the skip so far in this match has not been good to.No, it hasn't.

0:48:45 > 0:48:56She's at 20%!It's not playing on her mind at all, is it? Staying off

0:48:56 > 0:49:01this as well...

0:49:03 > 0:49:05this as well...The sweepers will know they needed to be a cross that

0:49:05 > 0:49:10centreline. So, she's brought this one into the house, and this will

0:49:10 > 0:49:18give... Oh, that's not a good shot at all.This is what I'm saying. Has

0:49:18 > 0:49:31ended up gives Eve Muirhead a big opportunity here.

0:49:31 > 0:49:36So, Eve, hoping to remove both of these stones and keep her shooter in

0:49:36 > 0:49:43the house. Should be a straightforward shot here.Tiny bit

0:49:43 > 0:49:52your way...Just in the centreline? Yeah.

0:50:06 > 0:50:12So, Eve suggesting quite a heavy throw.

0:50:15 > 0:50:20throw. Executed well. So, we lie three shots here now, and that was

0:50:20 > 0:50:24the danger of OAR playing these guards, she played the guard but she

0:50:24 > 0:50:28brought it into the house. A second opportunity for them might have been

0:50:28 > 0:50:32to put one to the wing and say, I'm going to make you play for just one

0:50:32 > 0:50:39of them.Well, it's been a difficult first session for OAR, particularly

0:50:39 > 0:50:46for their skip. She has had the opportunity is maybe to have had the

0:50:46 > 0:50:51chance to make the situation not as bad as it is. May not really have

0:50:51 > 0:51:01ever been in a position to dominate over rate Britain, but -- over Great

0:51:01 > 0:51:03Britain, but each time we've come to the last two stones, could have been

0:51:03 > 0:51:12so much worse. So, this is the final stone in this seventh end for OAR,

0:51:12 > 0:51:16Great Britain lying three here.This is a real gutsy call. She's ignoring

0:51:16 > 0:51:21all of the Yellowstone is in the house, and going to try and draw in

0:51:21 > 0:51:29behind. -- all of the yellow stones. And given how she has been drawing,

0:51:29 > 0:51:35that's a big call.

0:51:36 > 0:51:40that's a big call.This is a simple takeout for four here. That was a

0:51:40 > 0:51:42big, big, gutsy call, especially when she's not throwing draw weight

0:51:42 > 0:51:48very well.

0:51:48 > 0:51:52very well. It's a shot which could have stolen the end, but she's just

0:51:52 > 0:52:00not playing well enough.Well, this could be it here, if Great Britain

0:52:00 > 0:52:04take four then I would be very surprised if OAR decided to carry

0:52:04 > 0:52:09on, particularly the way they're playing. It's not as if, lets spend

0:52:09 > 0:52:16some more time out on the ice - they're having a shocker. And Eve

0:52:16 > 0:52:20Muirhead would like to try and finish this here. We may well get

0:52:20 > 0:52:25the handshakes. Eve Muirhead looking to just hit this on the nose and

0:52:25 > 0:52:30stay for four... And she's done it superbly well. It's another good

0:52:30 > 0:52:37shot. Four for Great Britain. There's a little discussion going on

0:52:37 > 0:52:43with the OAR team. I wonder if they're going to carry on. It is now

0:52:43 > 0:52:4710-3 in favour of Great Britain. Yes, and that's it. There's the

0:52:47 > 0:52:53handshake. It's been a penniless the OARas per, but what a start for

0:52:53 > 0:53:02Great Britain. -- it has been a poor start from the OAR perspective but

0:53:02 > 0:53:06what a start for Great Britain, they have come through this match

0:53:06 > 0:53:10brilliantly well, played well right from the start. They put the

0:53:10 > 0:53:14pressure on OAR and they could not respond. In fact as I said, they've

0:53:14 > 0:53:18played some horrendous shots.

0:53:27 > 0:53:33EILIDH BARBOUR: So, a great result for Great Britain's women curlers

0:53:33 > 0:53:37and next up for them is the USA and you can see that on BBC One just

0:53:37 > 0:53:44after midnight. Well, it's a family affair for Britain's curlers, Eve

0:53:44 > 0:53:47Muirhead being joined by her two brothers at the Olympics for the

0:53:47 > 0:53:53first time. The men's skip is Kyle Smith, and his brother Cameron is

0:53:53 > 0:53:56also on the team. Are you keeping up?! If not, don't worry, here's

0:53:56 > 0:54:00Steve Cram with a quick look at who the boys are and what they've been

0:54:00 > 0:54:07saying ahead of Pyeongchang.

0:54:07 > 0:54:09saying ahead of Pyeongchang.A lot of the game is about field, really,

0:54:09 > 0:54:12you have to feel the weight and feel the moment and put it exactly where

0:54:12 > 0:54:19you want it.Talk Bojan about you and your brother - are there any

0:54:19 > 0:54:26tensions ever between brothers out there?Sometimes, yes. It can be

0:54:26 > 0:54:29something very silly and just because it is your brother in annoy

0:54:29 > 0:54:34you more. But even when you do fall out, because it's your brother,

0:54:34 > 0:54:40almost instantly, it's forgotten about.He's quite an analytical

0:54:40 > 0:54:43skip, he likes to think about things before he does it and if he needs

0:54:43 > 0:54:47your help he will always ask and we will talk about each game after and

0:54:47 > 0:54:51go through every shot NCF there is anything we could have done

0:54:51 > 0:54:55differently, or if we called the right shot.Do you think as a

0:54:55 > 0:54:58brother that's an advantage to have your brothers in the team?To be

0:54:58 > 0:55:02honest we've always got on really well. And when we are curling I

0:55:02 > 0:55:05don't really see him as my brother, is just another competitor that

0:55:05 > 0:55:10we're playing with, so it works really well.Cameron is a great guy

0:55:10 > 0:55:20to have around and we know how to work around each other.

0:55:20 > 0:55:27work around each other.I have basically curled with Kyle my whole

0:55:27 > 0:55:30career, our mums would drag is around when we will be kids and I

0:55:30 > 0:55:35have played with him since I was a young boy and basically we have done

0:55:35 > 0:55:40that over the years and got to where we are today. We play a lot of the

0:55:40 > 0:55:44teams that we're going to play out there on a weekly basis on the tour,

0:55:44 > 0:55:50but I think just representing Team GB in South Korea, which is a unique

0:55:50 > 0:55:55case to go, I've never been, I've never been to that part of the

0:55:55 > 0:56:02world, and just to experience it, doing what we do, that is what I am

0:56:02 > 0:56:05kind of looking forward to, to be honest, and getting on the ice and

0:56:05 > 0:56:11playing in front of a crowd and fan base that we never get to play in

0:56:11 > 0:56:19front of unless it's at the Olympics. You always try and take

0:56:19 > 0:56:22these events one game at a time, and I think it is well within our grasp,

0:56:22 > 0:56:26it's all just about how well we performed that week, but we've given

0:56:26 > 0:56:30ourselves the best chance in the work that we've done to build up to

0:56:30 > 0:56:33this event. So, just itching to go, really, and I hope everything comes

0:56:33 > 0:56:40together for us at the right time. Janet Kisa tough first match for

0:56:40 > 0:56:45Team Smith, they were facing Switzerland, World Championship

0:56:45 > 0:56:50bronze medallists, and rejoin the action in the tenth end with Great

0:56:50 > 0:56:56Britain leading 5-4. Your commentators are Logan Gray and

0:56:56 > 0:57:02Steve Cram.

0:57:02 > 0:57:07So, bear, and attract and tap at Middlestone back a little. I think

0:57:07 > 0:57:12he wants the option to be able to be able to run one of those other

0:57:12 > 0:57:19yellows, to have two sitting at the top. -- so, they're just going to

0:57:19 > 0:57:27try and that middle stone. Absolutely. They have played the

0:57:27 > 0:57:32whole end to force in Switzerland to just score one, but now they're in

0:57:32 > 0:57:36such a strong position that they smell blood and they're going to go

0:57:36 > 0:57:44and try and steal the game right here in the tenth end.

0:57:44 > 0:57:49here in the tenth end.Not the easiest side that any of them have

0:57:49 > 0:57:55managed to cope with.

0:57:55 > 0:58:01managed to cope with. So, draw weight for Kyle Smith.

0:58:02 > 0:58:08weight for Kyle Smith. Tap that middle yellow back... It's looking

0:58:08 > 0:58:18pretty good, actually.

0:58:18 > 0:58:20pretty good, actually. Another few inches maybe would have been good,

0:58:20 > 0:58:29but that is a good effort.

0:58:29 > 0:58:35but that is a good effort. A little more would have been ideal. But

0:58:35 > 0:58:45you're right, it's just making life very difficult for Switzerland here.

0:58:45 > 0:58:49LOGAN GRAY: I've been told, Steve, that Princess Anne is in the house

0:58:49 > 0:59:01right now. I don't know if you can see that on the TV but...

0:59:01 > 0:59:07see that on the TV but... Yeah, I can see the British contingent,

0:59:07 > 0:59:12Princess Anne and about 15 other people.

0:59:18 > 0:59:32So, what are the options here for Switzerland and try and their own

0:59:32 > 0:59:37in?Yeah, I think so, it looks like they're going to play a takeout on

0:59:37 > 0:59:42it and if they stick it then they might have a chance to score two,

0:59:42 > 0:59:49but what they really want is to get one. A little bit surprised to see

0:59:49 > 1:00:02them playing a takeout weight at this.He's been struggling with

1:00:02 > 1:00:07this.He's been struggling with his weight. You would think if they went

1:00:07 > 1:00:10to the last end they only have realistically a 20% chance of

1:00:10 > 1:00:18winning.

1:00:23 > 1:00:37Switzerland lie shot. The they block the route in? Run that back?

1:00:39 > 1:00:43the route in? Run that back?Throw the guard here.If we could place it

1:00:43 > 1:00:49there I'm

1:00:49 > 1:00:54there I'm not sure...The other option Switzerland would v he has

1:00:54 > 1:00:58just played a shot. He could almost, you don't allow Switzerland to be

1:00:58 > 1:01:02able to tap that back again, you could play almost the same shot and

1:01:02 > 1:01:10knock that stone in for two, so surely they have to do something on

1:01:10 > 1:01:17that side.It looks like they are potentially guarding play at the

1:01:17 > 1:01:20same shot again to score two, and hopefully just accepting they are

1:01:20 > 1:01:25going to go to an extra end. In their time-out they talked about

1:01:25 > 1:01:29not kind of blocking those kind of promotional take outs and that is

1:01:29 > 1:01:34what they did. They kind of snookered themselves a bit on that

1:01:34 > 1:01:36left-hand side and they can't promote eitherer of the yellows on

1:01:36 > 1:01:45to the red. The last thing what they want to do

1:01:45 > 1:01:49here, is throw some sort of a hail Mary to get that red stone out and

1:01:49 > 1:01:57make things easier for Switzerland, to get another one to score two.

1:02:01 > 1:02:04Still six-and-a-half minutes on the clock so they are giving this one

1:02:04 > 1:02:09its full attention.

1:02:21 > 1:02:27What they want to do here, is

1:02:27 > 1:02:34This is the final stone for Kyle Smith and for Great Britain in the

1:02:34 > 1:02:41tenth end, are we going to see an extra end? Britain leading by one.

1:02:41 > 1:02:47Kyle Smith has found his form in the latter stages but he will try to

1:02:47 > 1:02:49protect hiss position, they don't want to give Switzerland an

1:02:49 > 1:02:53opportunity to pick up two. They are going to have to sweep this really

1:02:53 > 1:02:58hard though, really hard. He has maybe not given this enough. First

1:02:58 > 1:03:05of all get over the hog line, have to sweep it.Great sweep to get in

1:03:05 > 1:03:12and play but it is not going to do anything. It is far too long.

1:03:12 > 1:03:17Having said that, I was really surprised by how little ice the

1:03:17 > 1:03:21Swiss took for that previous stone, so it was, it must be quite straight

1:03:21 > 1:03:30down that side of the sheet. So maybe it does do the job.

1:03:35 > 1:03:39There is no real room to come round that one, it didn't look as though

1:03:39 > 1:03:42there is. There is a British stone at the back, sitting behind the one

1:03:42 > 1:03:48that is counting. And anything too wide, probably not

1:03:48 > 1:03:53going to get second shot, the option the preferred one would have been

1:03:53 > 1:04:01probably to tap that red, the shot he just played before, into position

1:04:01 > 1:04:14there, that counting stone, where that is. Still looking at it.

1:04:14 > 1:04:18So sorry, a time-out has been call. The Swiss cope is there.

1:04:18 > 1:04:23Helping with the discussion, I looks as though they have mind their mind

1:04:23 > 1:04:31up pretty quickly, he's off. I think I heard the Swiss players

1:04:31 > 1:04:35say they didn't think the draw round the outside was possible, because

1:04:35 > 1:04:40it's quite straight there, so, they are looking to try and play pretty

1:04:40 > 1:04:42much the same shot again, three-quarters contact on that red

1:04:42 > 1:04:53and push it into the middle for two. Is weight important? Whenever you

1:04:53 > 1:04:58are tapping the stone up on to other one, catch, I don't think there is

1:04:58 > 1:05:04enough room to push it by. I was going to say that yellow is too

1:05:04 > 1:05:11close behind. Any way, here we go, the final stone for Switzerland.

1:05:11 > 1:05:17Need the one here, two would give them victory over Great Britain, a

1:05:17 > 1:05:23crucial shot here, swards, they have played a good shot last time. He is

1:05:23 > 1:05:27past the guard. Just a nudge to push it out. That nudge is enough to make

1:05:27 > 1:05:31sure that that stone is not going to come into where he wanted it to, so

1:05:31 > 1:05:35one for Switzerland, we have a tied match after ten ends and Great

1:05:35 > 1:05:39Britain did their job well there, almost at one point looked as though

1:05:39 > 1:05:44they could get the steal but they limited Switzerland to the one, they

1:05:44 > 1:05:47are tied five all and Great Britain will take the hammer into the extra

1:05:47 > 1:05:54end. Here is the chance then. Extra end,

1:05:54 > 1:06:04Great Britain with the hammer.

1:06:05 > 1:06:07T one point looked as though they could get the steal but they limited

1:06:07 > 1:06:10Switzerland to the one, they are tied five all and Great Britain will

1:06:10 > 1:06:13take the hammer into the extra end. Here is the chance then. Extra end,

1:06:13 > 1:06:19Great Britain with the hammer.Italy have a time-out.

1:06:23 > 1:06:24have a time-out. Nd Great Britain did their job well there, almost at

1:06:24 > 1:06:27one point looked as though they could get the steal but they limited

1:06:27 > 1:06:29Switzerland to the one, they are tied five all and Great Britain will

1:06:29 > 1:06:32take the hammer into the extra end. Here is the chance then. Extra end,

1:06:32 > 1:06:35Great Britain with the hammer.Italy have a time-out. Bard being put in

1:06:35 > 1:06:36place. Just comes across the center line.

1:06:36 > 1:06:39So I think if you are Great Britain, you kind of think, yes, we managed

1:06:39 > 1:06:43the last three four ends well, at one point you could have said the

1:06:43 > 1:06:46momentum was slight I with Switzerland, then it shifted back

1:06:46 > 1:06:52and during that last end, it is beginning to look as though that one

1:06:52 > 1:07:01shot wasn't, it didn't tap their own stone back far enough.

1:07:01 > 1:07:07A nice shot from Cammy Smith. Yes, it is all about inches and if

1:07:07 > 1:07:12annal only and the rest of it, but at least they limited Switzerland to

1:07:12 > 1:07:16the one there, and then now in a good position. Well, in a position

1:07:16 > 1:07:20you would want to be in in the extra end with the hammer. Only need one

1:07:20 > 1:07:25of course now. Definitely. That shot might have

1:07:25 > 1:07:29looked a bit strange. It is the first time we have seen a shot of

1:07:29 > 1:07:32its type in this game. We call that a tick shot. So basically what you

1:07:32 > 1:07:37are trying to do is move your opposition stone to the side but a

1:07:37 > 1:07:41you can't remove it from play because of the free guard zone rule,

1:07:41 > 1:07:44which prevents you from removing the opposition stones from that area out

1:07:44 > 1:07:55front of the house. Basically what GB are going to try

1:07:55 > 1:07:59and do is keep that centre wide-open, so that Kyle can lay one

1:07:59 > 1:08:05down there on to the bottom to win the game.

1:08:05 > 1:08:12So another one of them, please, Cammy.

1:08:23 > 1:08:33They are sweeping this hard. Don't want to hit it too skinny.Scary.

1:08:33 > 1:08:40Yes, well done. Maybe thought for a moment it was

1:08:40 > 1:08:50closer than that. There is a lot of smiles now, and a bit of, bit of a

1:08:50 > 1:08:55swaggerer he is is not getting too confident but the last three or four

1:08:55 > 1:09:01ends have really pulled it back together. Those shots that Cammy

1:09:01 > 1:09:06made, they give them a good buzz and feeling, and just by making, because

1:09:06 > 1:09:11they play a lot of more unmundane shots, the guards, in this

1:09:11 > 1:09:15situation, this is the one where they can make a massive difference

1:09:15 > 1:09:20to the outcome of the game, and how straight forward the final stone is

1:09:20 > 1:09:25for the skip.

1:09:42 > 1:09:55You can see a bit of that stone. Peel I think the call.

1:09:56 > 1:09:59Peel I think the call.What you saying? Peel?Ideally they would go

1:09:59 > 1:10:07after the one in the house here, but they don't want to rest just

1:10:07 > 1:10:12feathering it like Benoit did. Peeling the guard. Not going to hit

1:10:12 > 1:10:18I. He did. I am sitting on the wrong side looking at it. Should keep

1:10:18 > 1:10:22watching the TV screen, a better view.

1:10:22 > 1:10:29As you said keeping things nice and clear.I was half watching the end

1:10:29 > 1:10:33of Canada Italy. That is what they were doing, Canada kept giving

1:10:33 > 1:10:41themselves plenty of room. They had the last stone and run out victors

1:10:41 > 1:10:46by 5-3. Picked up one in the final end. It was a tight affair all the

1:10:46 > 1:10:53way through that one, Italy giving Canada plenty to think about there.

1:10:53 > 1:10:58Great Britain will face Canada in this evening's session.I would love

1:10:58 > 1:11:04to go there with a victory under their belt.

1:11:04 > 1:11:11-- they would love to go there with a victory under their belt. Same

1:11:11 > 1:11:17again, another peel for Kyle Waddell.

1:11:30 > 1:11:36So far, so good. Absolutely, another three of them

1:11:36 > 1:11:41would be quite fine, then you would expect Kyle wouldn't have too hard a

1:11:41 > 1:11:46shot to win the game. Game. Well Switzerland do have one end

1:11:46 > 1:11:57close to the four foot, that is their friend at the moment.

1:11:57 > 1:12:02Any skip, if brow said draw to the four foot to win the match, with

1:12:02 > 1:12:10clear ice ahead of you. You would take that, wouldn't you?

1:12:10 > 1:12:23Absolutely. No change in tactic, Switzerland are

1:12:23 > 1:12:37hoping they will get this wrong. There is not much else they can do.

1:12:40 > 1:12:44Thomas Muirhead doing a good jobYou don't want to stick it, hit it on

1:12:44 > 1:12:51the nose and leave your own stone sitting there.

1:12:51 > 1:12:54That is the difference between the take out and a peel. A peel is when

1:12:54 > 1:13:00you peel your own stone away from the playing area as well as the

1:13:00 > 1:13:06stone that is in play already.

1:13:15 > 1:13:22Here we go again.

1:13:22 > 1:13:27The centre plays lovely and open, exactly as you would want if you are

1:13:27 > 1:13:32GB, that is largely down to the terrific two shots by Cammy Smith,

1:13:32 > 1:13:44making those tick shots and opening things right up.

1:13:48 > 1:13:52Another nice shot from Thomas Muirhead. His last three ends has

1:13:52 > 1:14:02been very good.

1:14:06 > 1:14:10Trying to work out where they want to put their last stone of the end,

1:14:10 > 1:14:13rather than this one I would say, they are going to throw a guard here

1:14:13 > 1:14:17in this one, and they will probably put one kind of somewhere in round

1:14:17 > 1:14:24the center line, about a similar distance from the button at the

1:14:24 > 1:14:29back. Just about protecting that back at

1:14:29 > 1:14:34the minute.

1:14:37 > 1:14:44You can see where he would like to finish up.The blowers have come

1:14:44 > 1:14:54back on again.

1:14:56 > 1:15:04I think Great Britain's cause has been helped slightly by a bit of a

1:15:04 > 1:15:08sticky patch that Mark Schwarzer -- Benoit Schwarz went through.

1:15:08 > 1:15:12The last stone in that tenth end capturing the guard on the way

1:15:12 > 1:15:21through as well.

1:15:32 > 1:15:37Suburb just want to move that out of the way and keep trying to keep this

1:15:37 > 1:15:42nice and clear, the skip for Great Britain will have a shot at the end,

1:15:42 > 1:15:48we're a assuming here, to win the match.

1:15:52 > 1:16:00match. It has gone quiet in here! The British contingent,

1:16:01 > 1:16:04The British contingent, including the British dignitaries and the

1:16:04 > 1:16:10British team watching this.

1:16:19 > 1:16:23LOGAN GRAY: That was not what they were looking for. But I guess they

1:16:23 > 1:16:28get kind of second prize there. But all of a sudden, the difficulty for

1:16:28 > 1:16:34Kyle Smith's final shot has one up by a few fold. Now, he has got the

1:16:34 > 1:16:41chance to draw in behind that and get close in. Something to make Kyle

1:16:41 > 1:16:48Smith have to work around. Just trying to work out exactly where

1:16:48 > 1:16:57they would like to be.

1:17:06 > 1:17:14It is never over. You just think this was going

1:17:14 > 1:17:18this was going nicely Great Britain's way... They still might

1:17:18 > 1:17:23have a chance to win it but it is just going to have to be a very good

1:17:23 > 1:17:29shot. Let's see what Benoit Schwarz can do here. He has struggled with

1:17:29 > 1:17:37his weight, but good players come good when it matters. So, somewhere

1:17:37 > 1:17:41just touching the button on the edge of the left-hand side is what Benoit

1:17:41 > 1:17:46Schwarz is looking for here. To try and really close down that scoring

1:17:46 > 1:18:01area for Kyle Smith's last one. SWISS PLAYERS TALK FRENCH

1:18:04 > 1:18:08SWISS PLAYERS TALK FRENCH That is a real mistake from Benoit Schwarz,

1:18:08 > 1:18:14he's made a few.

1:18:14 > 1:18:16he's made a few.It was short as well. They were trying to sweep it

1:18:16 > 1:18:21in and get it passed that the guard, at least into the house, would have

1:18:21 > 1:18:26given Kyle Smith something to think about. A more straightforward shot

1:18:26 > 1:18:31for him now, just to draw this into anywhere in the house, and Great

1:18:31 > 1:18:34Britain will win their first match. Thomas Muirhead certainly played his

1:18:34 > 1:18:37part after a couple of indifferent shots in the middle of the match, he

1:18:37 > 1:18:40has come good towards the end, and Kyle Smith himself has struggled

1:18:40 > 1:18:45with one or two of his shots, but this is pretty straightforward. The

1:18:45 > 1:18:50British skip with the

1:18:50 > 1:18:53British skip with the chance to draw in, on this extra end, the last

1:18:53 > 1:18:58stone.

1:18:58 > 1:19:05stone.We're a way out there... Weight's good!

1:19:05 > 1:19:09LOGAN GRAY: Holding my breath as well, I don't know why!Such a

1:19:09 > 1:19:16straightforward shot! Looks fine! Yarn at the hands shake comes in the

1:19:16 > 1:19:22end. It was an incredibly tight match, all the way through, nobody

1:19:22 > 1:19:28got more than one shot ahead of the other. Great Britain holding

1:19:28 > 1:19:35Switzerland to one on the final end, meaning we went into an extra end

1:19:35 > 1:19:41and with mistakes from both teams it was a bit of a nailbiter. But what a

1:19:41 > 1:19:44way for Great Britain to start, they've won their first match,

1:19:44 > 1:19:51against Switzerland. In the end the score, 6-5 against Great Britain.

1:19:51 > 1:19:56Congratulations, guys, what a way to get under way?Delighted, could not

1:19:56 > 1:20:00really be a better start so I'm really chuffed.A tight affair, how

1:20:00 > 1:20:04were the nerves? You're always going to get a little nervy in your first

1:20:04 > 1:20:08Olympics. It is just keeping it under control and knowing the

1:20:08 > 1:20:14processes to do it right.That sounds like a pretty stock answer! I

1:20:14 > 1:20:20bet the nerves were jangling Bojan! There was a few missed shots but we

1:20:20 > 1:20:25played them in the Europeans and it makes for a good game! We said to

1:20:25 > 1:20:28Kyle, we just needed the draw for the win and thankfully they let us

1:20:28 > 1:20:32have that a bit easier than we probably expected that you still

1:20:32 > 1:20:37have to make it, so we're happy.I noticed you had a bit of a wobble in

1:20:37 > 1:20:41the middle - how important was it that the guys got around you?Yeah,

1:20:41 > 1:20:46I struggled for a couple of ends at the boys pulled together and they

1:20:46 > 1:20:49have some good information to pass on and we managed to pull it

1:20:49 > 1:20:53together for the second half, so a team effort and every little helps

1:20:53 > 1:20:57in those situations. You're all giving your nice stock answers to

1:20:57 > 1:21:02these questions but it was a tough first day for you, you've got Canada

1:21:02 > 1:21:05tonight and that was a really important win?Have an ugly, they're

1:21:05 > 1:21:09one of the teams you would expect to be near the podium at the end of the

1:21:09 > 1:21:14week, so we're very pleased to get off with such a good performance in

1:21:14 > 1:21:17our first Olympics of. We struggled a wee bit but we pulled it together

1:21:17 > 1:21:20and we're really pleased to get the win.Congratulations and good luck

1:21:20 > 1:21:23tonight.Thank you!

1:21:23 > 1:21:25win.Congratulations and good luck tonight.Thank you!

1:21:25 > 1:21:32EILIDH BARBOUR: A good win for Great Britain's men but they are back on

1:21:32 > 1:21:36the ice later on and you can see them taking on one of the gold medal

1:21:36 > 1:21:41favourites, Canada, at 11 o'clock on BBC One. Well, the women were also

1:21:41 > 1:21:47in action and they have just come off the ice after a good win against

1:21:47 > 1:21:50OAR and we caught up with them after their first match of this

1:21:50 > 1:21:56Pyeongchang Olympics. Well, congratulations, I will begin with

1:21:56 > 1:22:00you, Eve, that is a great way to start?Yeah, delighted, it is always

1:22:00 > 1:22:05crucial that you get off to a strong start and we did that. We had a

1:22:05 > 1:22:09clinical game, we outplayed the Russians, and to get one win on the

1:22:09 > 1:22:14board after the first day is nice. How good is it to finally get

1:22:14 > 1:22:17started, it has been a long wait?It has been but it is just really nice

1:22:17 > 1:22:21to be able to get out there eventually and get going. It was a

1:22:21 > 1:22:25really good atmosphere out there and we all really enjoyed ourselves.

1:22:25 > 1:22:30You're very experienced, Vicki but were there some nerves?Yeah, it

1:22:30 > 1:22:33would be unusual if we didn't have nerves but we have been doing a lot

1:22:33 > 1:22:37of work on how we cope with pressure, so we all felt well in

1:22:37 > 1:22:43control of ourselves. And I know in Sochi you were alternate, Lauren, so

1:22:43 > 1:22:50what was it like for your first match? It was really exciting, like

1:22:50 > 1:22:53Vicki said, we were in control of ourselves but looking forward to

1:22:53 > 1:22:57getting out there, especially after a few days off and we had a great

1:22:57 > 1:23:02game, which always helps, so we're all feeling pleased.Talk us through

1:23:02 > 1:23:07how you managed the week, waiting and waiting and finally getting

1:23:07 > 1:23:11started, back again tomorrow, each game, do you kind of just, it is a

1:23:11 > 1:23:16cliche, take each game as it comes and not get ahead of yourself?Yeah,

1:23:16 > 1:23:19the last few days have been quite long but we have managed to fill it

1:23:19 > 1:23:23pretty well. We have had the official training and several gym

1:23:23 > 1:23:27sessions as well and plenty of time in the dining hall! It's just really

1:23:27 > 1:23:31keeping ourselves occupied and busy! As you say, it is a long

1:23:31 > 1:23:35competition, the Olympic Games, on some days you have one game, some

1:23:35 > 1:23:40days off and some days with two games. It is important to manage our

1:23:40 > 1:23:44time and what we do really well as a team is manage when we know we can

1:23:44 > 1:23:48switch off and go and enjoy ourselves and get our nails done

1:23:48 > 1:23:52with GB flags! And knowing when we can put our competition heads on and

1:23:52 > 1:23:59get into business mode! I hope you all sent your Valentine's cards

1:23:59 > 1:24:03before you left?!Brownie points for me! I sent one but I didn't get one

1:24:03 > 1:24:11back!Well, we LOVED what you did today! Congratulations! Great start

1:24:11 > 1:24:16from both our British curling teams. I am now joined from the Gangneung

1:24:16 > 1:24:19Curling Centre by Jackie Lockhart, who was commentating. It is a great

1:24:19 > 1:24:24start for both teams - how much have you enjoyed the first morning of the

1:24:24 > 1:24:28team competition? What a wonderful way for Great Britain to start this

1:24:28 > 1:24:32Olympic championship here. The men showed huge resilience in that game

1:24:32 > 1:24:36against Switzerland this morning and to win that is fantastic. And the

1:24:36 > 1:24:41ladies? They had a wonderful game, on paper if you ask me, they were

1:24:41 > 1:24:47guaranteed to get a win there but they had to go out and perform the

1:24:47 > 1:24:51shots well - great start.I am enjoying your jacket, I think we

1:24:51 > 1:24:55have been dressed by the same wardrobe designer today! But in

1:24:55 > 1:25:00terms of team your head, they came here with a lot of expectation - how

1:25:00 > 1:25:03do you feel their mental strength was and how comfortable they have

1:25:03 > 1:25:09been already?-- score. Yeah, these girls have laid everything on the

1:25:09 > 1:25:13table in preparation for this Olympic Games. -- score. There is a

1:25:13 > 1:25:17lot of weight on their shoulders, they're the current European

1:25:17 > 1:25:21champions, they got a bronze in Sochi and there is huge expectations

1:25:21 > 1:25:25for them to get a better medal than they did last time and they have put

1:25:25 > 1:25:29a lot of work in with psychologists and how they mentally handle that

1:25:29 > 1:25:33pressure. And I thought they showed real composure out there today. They

1:25:33 > 1:25:36looked happy, they looked relaxed, and they played the simple shots

1:25:36 > 1:25:42well.And it was a good way for them to start, they played nine matches

1:25:42 > 1:25:46in total in this round robin section - in terms of the draw, how do you

1:25:46 > 1:25:50feel it works for them in being one of those top four teams to get

1:25:50 > 1:25:54through to the semifinals? The draw for the girls actually is very, very

1:25:54 > 1:25:58good. I'm not going to say it is the weaker teams that they're playing

1:25:58 > 1:26:02but I think it is teams they should beat, and they've got them in the

1:26:02 > 1:26:05early stages. What is going to be critical is that they get wins from

1:26:05 > 1:26:10these. Because in the latter half, they will be playing Sweden and

1:26:10 > 1:26:14Switzerland and Canada last, and let's hope it doesn't matter when

1:26:14 > 1:26:17they play Canada, they've already qualified at that stage. So, they've

1:26:17 > 1:26:22really got to put the effort in in this first half of the competition.

1:26:22 > 1:26:26Let's talk a bit about the boys of, the Olympic debut and a real first

1:26:26 > 1:26:30taste of the pressure that can come at the end of one of these Olympic

1:26:30 > 1:26:36matches, great to see them come through? It really was. Opposite

1:26:36 > 1:26:40from the girls, do guys have got the toughest start. They've got Canada

1:26:40 > 1:26:43tonight. But that one this morning will really have given them

1:26:43 > 1:26:47confidence. It is their first Olympics, and who knows how you are

1:26:47 > 1:26:51going to perform when you get out there? Lots of nerves get on top of

1:26:51 > 1:26:55you. But again they showed real resilience today, and I'm very

1:26:55 > 1:26:59impressed. They had a couple of slack shots in the middle but to

1:26:59 > 1:27:04pull off that

1:27:08 > 1:27:12pull off that extra end -- end win, it was wonderful.Jackie, thank you

1:27:12 > 1:27:18very much for joining us.

1:27:26 > 1:27:29It is around half past four in the afternoon here in South Korea,

1:27:29 > 1:27:35plenty has happened on day five and here is what you might have missed

1:27:35 > 1:27:40if you were not up nice and early. Great Britain's women's team won

1:27:40 > 1:27:45bronze in Sochi four years ago and Eve Muirhead's team got their

1:27:45 > 1:27:50campaign off to eight winning start with a comprehensive win over the

1:27:50 > 1:27:55OAR. The men's team, including Eve Muirhead's brother Thomas, also had

1:27:55 > 1:27:59a day to remember, beginning in perfect style, edging out reigning

1:27:59 > 1:28:08World Championship bronze medallists Switzerland. Shaun White, AKA The

1:28:08 > 1:28:13Flying Tomato, won his third halfpipe title in Pyeongchang, 12

1:28:13 > 1:28:19years after his first in Turin. The 31-year-old scored a brilliant 97.75

1:28:19 > 1:28:26to get America's 100th all-time Winter Olympic gold medal.

1:28:26 > 1:28:28Unfortunately the Pyeongchang postponements have continued today

1:28:28 > 1:28:32in the Alpine skiing with the women's slalom becoming the third

1:28:32 > 1:28:36event to have to be rescheduled. Featuring the multitalented American

1:28:36 > 1:28:42Mikaela Shiffrin, the slalom will now be run on Friday. All eyes were

1:28:42 > 1:28:46on the ice yesterday, as Elise Christie went for 500 metre

1:28:46 > 1:28:52short-track speed skating gold. Triple live nation in Sochi, she was

1:28:52 > 1:28:55hoping to turn tears of disappointment into tears of joy.

1:28:55 > 1:28:59But sport, and it seems in particular short-track, can be very

1:28:59 > 1:29:06cruel. Away they go, the final is on!

1:29:06 > 1:29:09SIMON BROTHERTON: Elise Christie trying to move through on the

1:29:09 > 1:29:09inside...

1:29:09 > 1:29:14trying to move through on the inside... Fontana of Italy leads the

1:29:14 > 1:29:22way! The Canadian is in second place! Elise Christie has work to do

1:29:22 > 1:29:27to get back into contention! You know she has got the speed in her

1:29:27 > 1:29:37legs! Elise Christie now trying to get the inside line! Elise Christie

1:29:37 > 1:29:45tries to make it on the inside! And Elise Christie crashes out! It is a

1:29:45 > 1:29:54photo finish on the line! In her quest for gold, Elise Christie ends

1:29:54 > 1:30:00up on the floor again! She crashed out of the final four years ago and

1:30:00 > 1:30:07history repeats itself in Korea! Let's look at the race once again

1:30:07 > 1:30:16here.And as you can see, just wishing the Korean on the outside,

1:30:16 > 1:30:19so she might get the penalty, but that won't help Elise Christie at

1:30:19 > 1:30:24all.

1:30:25 > 1:30:30It will be interesting to see who crossed the line first, Fontana or

1:30:30 > 1:30:36Choi.It is a photo finish for first place and the Netherlands could be

1:30:36 > 1:30:44third. This is the shot we need, and it is

1:30:44 > 1:30:47Fontana.

1:30:47 > 1:30:50This is the shot we need, and it is Fontana. I am joined by windfall

1:30:50 > 1:30:54O'Reilly. We almost don't want to see those pictures again. It was so

1:30:54 > 1:30:59crushing to see her back in tears again. Absolutely, I think again, I

1:30:59 > 1:31:03have said from the beginning she needs to stay relaxed and calm. She

1:31:03 > 1:31:08was in a comfortable position. He goal was to go for gold, and maybe

1:31:08 > 1:31:11that wasn't strategically the right way to approach the race. It would

1:31:11 > 1:31:16have been nice had she come away with a medal, as I said in the be

1:31:16 > 1:31:22inning and built from there, working on the the next distances, she was

1:31:22 > 1:31:27almost inconsolable last night. What does this do for her mentally, given

1:31:27 > 1:31:31there are still two chances up for grabs. Last year she won the 1500

1:31:31 > 1:31:36metre, the first time she has won a 1500 metres so she is capable of

1:31:36 > 1:31:42winning a medal. I keep saying that step by step, she is focussing very

1:31:42 > 1:31:47much on gold, and I would prefer her to just maybe downsize a bit, just

1:31:47 > 1:31:51to maybe focus on a medal and take it step by step. It is not the end

1:31:51 > 1:31:56result. The end result is the medal. Focus on the strategy of the race.

1:31:56 > 1:31:59Getting into the right position, do all of these things right and the

1:31:59 > 1:32:04medal is the end result. We know she is a tough cookie on the ice, we saw

1:32:04 > 1:32:12her at the World Champions what she can do, there is this mental thing

1:32:12 > 1:32:15with the Olympic,ty trifrom Sochi, the that make it harder? It makes it

1:32:15 > 1:32:20harder for any athlete. I remember back in 1988 with Dan Janson, his

1:32:20 > 1:32:25sister died the day before he was taking part in the Olympic final, he

1:32:25 > 1:32:30crashed out, didn't do anything, four years later he crashed out

1:32:30 > 1:32:36again, two years later in the Olympics were in Lily ham, 500

1:32:36 > 1:32:42metres he slipped again, his last race of his career, thousand metres,

1:32:42 > 1:32:46it wasn't his best event, he broke the world record and achieved a gold

1:32:46 > 1:32:53medal. It is possible. It is. And we hope that we will be commentating on

1:32:53 > 1:32:56a medal for Elise. One thing from the race last night we are seeing

1:32:56 > 1:33:01the social media threats that we know Elise Christie had to go

1:33:01 > 1:33:06through after somy. Kim Boutin received the threats after she edged

1:33:06 > 1:33:10out the South Korean, with the South Korean being eliminated. Is a side

1:33:10 > 1:33:16of the sport we don't want to see is it?Bullying, social media bullying

1:33:16 > 1:33:20is not something we want the see, it doesn't really belong to short

1:33:20 > 1:33:24track, I think it is something that society nowadays, it happens, I

1:33:24 > 1:33:28heard this morning at breakfast they have closed down her Instagram

1:33:28 > 1:33:32account and Facebook account because for her to read it, it doesn't do

1:33:32 > 1:33:35her any good as well. I think it is very irresponsible for the people

1:33:35 > 1:33:40that do this sort of thing, it is not fair on the athletes that still

1:33:40 > 1:33:45have to take part. It is not fair on the Korean that got disqualified or

1:33:45 > 1:33:48received the penalty, because it is not her that is doing it either, so

1:33:48 > 1:33:52I mean it is a no-win situation. Elise is back on the ice on

1:33:52 > 1:33:59Saturday, you will be there of course, 1500 metres. Will she be

1:33:59 > 1:34:03back fighting, what kind of athlete do you expect to see?We will look

1:34:03 > 1:34:08at the training and tomorrow, and I will be talking to her coach, see

1:34:08 > 1:34:13how she is pulling herself back together. She has had the last four

1:34:13 > 1:34:16year, the whole Team GB e her psychologist, everybody will be

1:34:16 > 1:34:21getting behind her. Now it is down to supporting her, step by step,

1:34:21 > 1:34:24taking baby steps almost, and bringing her back to where she needs

1:34:24 > 1:34:30to be, by Saturday. Thank you very much for joining us,

1:34:30 > 1:34:33we look forward to Saturday. We are going to stay on the ice just now

1:34:33 > 1:34:38because we are going to the figure skating. It is start of the pairs

1:34:38 > 1:34:42with the short programme, 22 pairs, the top 16 from today going into

1:34:42 > 1:34:46tomorrow's free programme with a chance of fighting it out for

1:34:46 > 1:34:54Olympic Gold. Robin does zens and Catherine talking about who we

1:34:54 > 1:34:58should look out for. I I think this is going to be the most open

1:34:58 > 1:35:02competition. The Chinese, the World Champions, they are probably

1:35:02 > 1:35:11favourites for the gold. What a story they have as well.

1:35:11 > 1:35:15story they have as well. Sui had her ankles rebuilt. They were put

1:35:15 > 1:35:21together age 10 and 12 for this Olympic game, know a second in

1:35:21 > 1:35:26Beijing, they have to be favourites, although quite uncommonly, one of

1:35:26 > 1:35:29them fell in the Grand Prix final and made a mistake, which is

1:35:29 > 1:35:33something they have never done, so, they are not always going to be

1:35:33 > 1:35:41perfect but to me they are the favourites, I think brilliant. But

1:35:41 > 1:35:45then you have Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, Russians have

1:35:45 > 1:35:48dominated pairs skating for so many years and it will be down to them to

1:35:48 > 1:35:54take a medal. What colour, we will wait and see, you have the Canadians

1:35:54 > 1:35:59Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, they were on a podium, nowhere near,

1:35:59 > 1:36:04back on a podium. They are back on form. They have something to prove,

1:36:04 > 1:36:09but Aliona Savchenko, Bruno Massot, he has gone through everything he

1:36:09 > 1:36:14needed to do, from being French to German in time of the Olympics, made

1:36:14 > 1:36:18it just in time to get his passport. They decided not to compete at the

1:36:18 > 1:36:22European Championships because they wanted more time to prepare for the

1:36:22 > 1:36:27Olympics, where are they going to fit in? It is very open but there

1:36:27 > 1:36:32are four if not five teams capable of delivering winning performances.

1:36:32 > 1:36:36So that is five, three medals. It will be tight and competitive and

1:36:36 > 1:36:42some good stories as well. Not among the medal contender, we will see the

1:36:42 > 1:36:45North Korean, they have created a huge stir, when they step on the

1:36:45 > 1:36:48ice, there are crowds there, they are winning people over, and great

1:36:48 > 1:36:53to see North Korean athletes here, but let us make it clear, they are

1:36:53 > 1:36:58not just stepping out for the first time, these are global athletes.

1:36:58 > 1:37:03Yes, they came in to the world skating scene at a level. What

1:37:03 > 1:37:08surprised most of us was the quality of the skating, and where had they

1:37:08 > 1:37:12learned that, who has been teaching them their basics? They were

1:37:12 > 1:37:15beautiful. They are top 15 in the world. They will be top ten

1:37:15 > 1:37:21eventually. Who knows if they have great performance, these who are

1:37:21 > 1:37:26beautiful skater, off a level and they will step on to that ice now in

1:37:26 > 1:37:28their first Olympics representing North Korea, going this is who we

1:37:28 > 1:37:32are and this is how we perform. We do deserve to be here because they

1:37:32 > 1:37:37fit in very nicely. It will be competitive. So this is a

1:37:37 > 1:37:41good one to watch. Looking forward to this one.

1:37:41 > 1:37:46Well now you are clued up, let us join Robin an Catherine to take you

1:37:46 > 1:37:53through the best of the pairs short programme.

1:37:53 > 1:37:57This is our first look at the reigning World Champions, we haven't

1:37:57 > 1:38:01seen them yet on the Olympic ice here in Pyeongchang, they didn't fee

1:38:01 > 1:38:05chuff for China in the team event, Chinese perhaps choosing to keep

1:38:05 > 1:38:10their powder dry, what a store I are, what a come back for them to

1:38:10 > 1:38:17win the last World Championships in 2017. Terrible injury meant she had

1:38:17 > 1:38:24double surgery on both feet and had to learn to walk again.

1:38:46 > 1:38:49Ature for China in the team event, Chinese perhaps choosing to keep

1:38:49 > 1:38:51their powder dry, what a store I are, what a come back for them to

1:38:51 > 1:38:53win the last World Championships in 2017. Terrible injury meant she had

1:38:53 > 1:38:56double surgery on both feet and had to learn to walk again.

1:38:56 > 1:39:07Triple toe loops to open.

1:39:07 > 1:39:19Watch the size of this throw triple flip. Absolutely glorious.

1:39:25 > 1:39:35Triple twist.

1:41:06 > 1:41:12And that why they are the World Champion, she is ice cool. She is

1:41:12 > 1:41:18known among her fans as the empress. I have goose bumps on the back of my

1:41:18 > 1:41:24neck, firstly because KD Lang's version of that song is my favourite

1:41:24 > 1:41:28but I think they are exquisite. We haven't had the chance to see enough

1:41:28 > 1:41:33of them. I was talking about that surgery she had on her feet, at the

1:41:33 > 1:41:37end of 2016. Remarkably, she learned to walk again, she learned to skate

1:41:37 > 1:41:42again, she had to come back, they won the World Championship in 2017,

1:41:42 > 1:41:46so just a few months later. But they have had problems as well with

1:41:46 > 1:41:49injury this season, which means we haven't seen them that much on the

1:41:49 > 1:41:55ice, but they are back and back in time to stake a real claim for the

1:41:55 > 1:41:59Olympic title.Yes, they have been skating together since I think they

1:41:59 > 1:42:03were 10 and 12 when they were put together, with this Olympics in

1:42:03 > 1:42:10mind. And there is no question when you watch them skate, they have this

1:42:10 > 1:42:16wonderful connection. This is their hero, who is now their coach. They

1:42:16 > 1:42:26say they started skating because of him. But that throw is absolutely

1:42:26 > 1:42:34exquisite. She is flying across the iceAnd I am amazed she can do what

1:42:34 > 1:42:43she does with her hair across her face. She does grey hair ography.

1:42:43 > 1:42:47But it is the quality of the elements and there is pluses on

1:42:47 > 1:42:53every element from judges for the grades of execution. Level four for

1:42:53 > 1:43:01every element they have got there. And we are looking at 12 plus points

1:43:01 > 1:43:05of grade of execution over and above what their base score would be. They

1:43:05 > 1:43:09will be over 44 points overall, just for the technical. So there is no

1:43:09 > 1:43:20question that we will have new leaders.

1:43:20 > 1:43:29leaders.There are nine, so mid nines across the board for their

1:43:29 > 1:43:32component score, skating skills, interpretation and those scores come

1:43:32 > 1:43:38out of 10. So it is, this is the gauntlet being

1:43:38 > 1:43:47thrown down. 80.14 is their season's best.

1:43:47 > 1:43:59It is another season's best. 82.39 then for sue sue and Hang of China.

1:43:59 > 1:44:08They leap to the top of the board.

1:44:08 > 1:44:13So Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford have already won a gold at this

1:44:13 > 1:44:16Olympics, they won the team competition. Over the last few days,

1:44:16 > 1:44:22but this is it, it is about what they can do individually. Meghan

1:44:22 > 1:44:27took to twitter to say she had dropped her phone-in to a

1:44:27 > 1:44:32non-flushed toy let. Let us hope that wasn't an omen for today's

1:44:32 > 1:44:49performance. -- toilet.

1:44:49 > 1:44:50Ilet. Let us hope that wasn't

1:45:01 > 1:45:11Tripping twist to open. Their jump of choice, side by side

1:45:11 > 1:45:15triple Lutzes, hardest jump in the pairs event.

1:45:15 > 1:45:21It is their second element.

1:45:33 > 1:45:39They made a.Not the prettiest or the cleanest, but they were there.

1:45:48 > 1:45:51Touchdown there from a Rianne De Vries on the landing, just a little

1:45:51 > 1:46:01tension.

1:46:01 > 1:46:12-- touchdown from Meagan.

1:47:32 > 1:47:35Since the last Olympics I have won two world titles and they are

1:47:35 > 1:47:40gunning for a medal here in South Korea, and you could see the tension

1:47:40 > 1:47:45creeping into the performance, couldn't you, Robin?Yes, certainly

1:47:45 > 1:47:48in comparison to what they did in the team event, this was not as

1:47:48 > 1:47:52clean, but they have so much going for them. So much stronger

1:47:52 > 1:47:56emotionally, and the connection between each other. The component

1:47:56 > 1:48:03scores are going to be higher.Green boxes across-the-board in top

1:48:03 > 1:48:09corner, technical score. Which means that each element does count. But

1:48:09 > 1:48:15the timing on the triple

1:48:21 > 1:48:25lutzes was off and then she put her foot down on the landing of the

1:48:25 > 1:48:33throwers wow. You consider second box, which is the side by side

1:48:33 > 1:48:37triple lutzes being scrutinised again. Here is the twist... Doesn't

1:48:37 > 1:48:41have the flight that a lot of the other twists do. But again, no

1:48:41 > 1:48:50connection between her arms and his body. The jobs, way off in terms of

1:48:50 > 1:48:55really Eric touching down with that 3ft on the landing as well... Here's

1:48:55 > 1:49:06the throw... -- with

1:49:06 > 1:49:09the throw... -- with that free foot. You have got to remember that the

1:49:09 > 1:49:13judges don't have the benefit of these slow motion replays, so we're

1:49:13 > 1:49:18privileged to get to look at the nitty-gritty of what's going on

1:49:18 > 1:49:22about the judges will also just see the replays which are played from

1:49:22 > 1:49:27the panel but you will not have missed the fact that he landed that

1:49:27 > 1:49:34Lutz and she touched down on the throwers wow. So again, there are a

1:49:34 > 1:49:40couple of minuses there.

1:49:43 > 1:49:45couple of minuses there. And you heard Meagan say when she came off

1:49:45 > 1:49:54the ice that it wasn't as good as their performance in the team event.

1:50:04 > 1:50:1276.82 point. A couple off their season's best and they're up into

1:50:12 > 1:50:16second. So, the world champions from China lead the way, an exquisite

1:50:16 > 1:50:21performance from them.

1:50:21 > 1:50:23performance from them. Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot, two-time

1:50:23 > 1:50:31world medallists. Aljona herself has won bronze at the last two Olympics

1:50:31 > 1:50:34and she has teamed up with Bruno for these Olympics, who only just got

1:50:34 > 1:50:49his passport in time to compete! And this is a really fun routine.

1:51:18 > 1:51:25Watch for the height on the twist... That's massive!

1:51:31 > 1:51:40Oh, Bruno! Just a double Salchow.

1:51:59 > 1:52:06But she's got the throw on 1ft. Aljona has a habit of either

1:52:06 > 1:52:15touching down on landing on two feet...

1:53:39 > 1:53:44Personality by the bagful from the Germans! But you can see that

1:53:44 > 1:53:49disappointment on Bruno's face instantly. The smile fades. He just

1:53:49 > 1:53:55missed that jump.Such a costly error as well.There's no question

1:53:55 > 1:53:59that they will qualify, though. At the position in which they qualify

1:53:59 > 1:54:07matters.They will want to begin a medal position already now.

1:54:09 > 1:54:11medal position already now. They're going to get just one point plus

1:54:11 > 1:54:17change for that double Salchow, as opposed to five or six points they

1:54:17 > 1:54:20could have got. So, it's going to be costly. The rest of the elements,

1:54:20 > 1:54:25great.

1:54:26 > 1:54:31great. Two points for the triple twist. The throw flip was OK, she

1:54:31 > 1:54:37saved that landing, made it stick. Two points class for the step

1:54:37 > 1:54:49sequence. That was level four. The combination was level four as well.

1:54:49 > 1:54:56So, each of the judges will decide once the elements have been cleaned

1:54:56 > 1:55:01up whether they thought it was a plus or a minus and if they thought

1:55:01 > 1:55:10it was really good, they can give up to +3 for execution or if it was not

1:55:10 > 1:55:15so good they can go down to -3. So, points will either be added to...

1:55:15 > 1:55:19She did really well though not to put her foot down. Watts can either

1:55:19 > 1:55:27be added to or taken away from the base score for each element.

1:56:10 > 1:56:12Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot have earned in the short

1:56:12 > 1:56:21programme...That's way down on their season's best, but they are in

1:56:21 > 1:56:24third place, so bronze medal position going through to the free

1:56:24 > 1:56:28skate tomorrow, but there is one couple gets to come. So they will be

1:56:28 > 1:56:31relying on a brilliant performance tomorrow if they want to hang onto

1:56:31 > 1:56:37their medal chances. And we're finishing with some real class.

1:56:37 > 1:56:43ANNOUNCER: Olympic Athlete from Russia... Evgenia Tarasova and

1:56:43 > 1:56:48Vladimir Morozov!Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov where head and

1:56:48 > 1:56:50shoulders above the rest of the field in the short programme section

1:56:50 > 1:56:55of the team event a couple of days ago. The Olympic Athletes from

1:56:55 > 1:56:59Russia took home the silver, of course, from that competition. But

1:56:59 > 1:57:03these two, it really catapulted them up into the mix with this routine.

1:57:03 > 1:57:06They're the newly crowned European champions and world bronze

1:57:06 > 1:57:11medallists.

1:57:38 > 1:57:43Exquisite triple twist, light, beautiful control.

1:57:48 > 1:57:52Can they do the same on the side by side triple toe loops? Yes, they

1:57:52 > 1:57:57can.

1:58:18 > 1:58:21Triple loop. Beautiful again.

2:00:41 > 2:00:45They will surely be in the mix tomorrow, when the medals are

2:00:45 > 2:00:55decided in the free skate.

2:00:55 > 2:00:58decided in the free skate. It was a beautiful performance that

2:00:58 > 2:01:02catapulted the Olympic Athletes from Russia into the lead. In the team

2:01:02 > 2:01:11event.It is going to push the Chinese, I am not sure it is going

2:01:11 > 2:01:21to beat the Chinese. Their season's best 89.2. The Chinese at the moment

2:01:21 > 2:01:29on 82.39. I think it will be very close. As we would want it to be.

2:01:29 > 2:01:40Look at the timing here. Absolute % effection. -- perfection.

2:02:33 > 2:02:37Love to see the continuation of the movement from here and the flow

2:02:37 > 2:02:39through the air into the landing that just continue, it doesn't crack

2:02:39 > 2:02:43on to the ice I think for the throws, you can't beat this team or

2:02:43 > 2:02:47the Chinese team. Phenomenal.Right then.

2:02:47 > 2:02:55Where do they end up?They have earned in the short programme 81.68

2:02:55 > 2:03:01points. 81.68 then for the Olympic Athletes

2:03:01 > 2:03:08from Russia. The European champions have not quite done enough to knock

2:03:08 > 2:03:15the Chinese World Champions from their perch.

2:03:16 > 2:03:18their perch. But a season's best, you can't ask for much more than

2:03:18 > 2:03:27that. Looking like a fight for the bronze.

2:03:27 > 2:03:34Certainly is s let us look at the standings going into the free skate:

2:03:34 > 2:03:40The Chinese looking to add the Olympic title to their world crown.

2:03:40 > 2:03:45Then the European champions in second, with the Canadians hunting

2:03:45 > 2:03:52for a second medal of these games after winning gold in the team event

2:03:52 > 2:03:56and in fourth place the Germans, they will need excellence to keep

2:03:56 > 2:04:04their hopes alive. They are not far behind the Canadians.

2:04:04 > 2:04:05Everybody has to start somewhere.

2:04:50 > 2:04:54If you are just joining us welcome to our balcony here at Pyeongchang

2:04:54 > 2:04:58on BBC Two, if you are looking for early morning motivation to get you

2:04:58 > 2:05:02through the hump of the week we have it in spades, it has been an

2:05:02 > 2:05:08action-packed day five of the Winter Olympics, here are the headlines.

2:05:08 > 2:05:12Great Britain's women's team won bronze in Sochi four years ago and

2:05:12 > 2:05:17Eve Muirhead's rink got their 2018 campaign off to a winning start with

2:05:17 > 2:05:23a comprehensive 10-3 victory over the OAR. The men's team including

2:05:23 > 2:05:30Eve's brother Thomas had a day to remember, beginning their debut

2:05:30 > 2:05:33campaign in perfect style edging out Switzerland 6-5 in a thrilling

2:05:33 > 2:05:38contest. Shaun White the Flying Tomato won

2:05:38 > 2:05:42his third halfpipe title with a spectacular final run in

2:05:42 > 2:05:47Pyeongchang, 12 years after his first Olympic crown in Turin, the

2:05:47 > 2:05:5731-year-old scored a brilliant 97.75 to secure America's 100th winter

2:05:57 > 2:06:03Olympic gold medal. The postpone.s have continued today with the

2:06:03 > 2:06:11women's slalom becoming the third event to be postponed. Mick a that

2:06:11 > 2:06:16Shifrin will compete on Friday. We love an underdog story, you might

2:06:16 > 2:06:20think being sur rounded by snowy mountains the Winter Olympics might

2:06:20 > 2:06:25not suit everyone. Some have defied all those odds to come here to South

2:06:25 > 2:06:31Korea, as unlikely Olympians. The Winter Olympics is not all about

2:06:31 > 2:06:37medal contenders. It is one thing to become Olympian, it is another to

2:06:37 > 2:06:42become an international hero. He is on his way.

2:06:42 > 2:06:49Safely down. Thank you very much says Eddie Edwards. Some of the most

2:06:49 > 2:06:53memorable moments come from the most unlikely of places. All over the

2:06:53 > 2:07:01place in. He is over. Oh dear me. What a satisfaction is to see that

2:07:01 > 2:07:09Jamaican crew on their feet.A new group of improbable Olympians are on

2:07:09 > 2:07:15the way.We are the first team to represent Nigeria. And the Continent

2:07:15 > 2:07:18of Africa.We are headed to Pyeongchang.Let's go for the Winter

2:07:18 > 2:07:26Olympics. It is not been an easy ride for team

2:07:26 > 2:07:33Nigeria ho had to rely on donations just to get to Korea. We went

2:07:33 > 2:07:37through a lot of thing, a lot of trials, to get here. People didn't

2:07:37 > 2:07:40think we had a chance to make it to the Olympics so I think that when

2:07:40 > 2:07:44you talk about things like that, anything can happen, and we are here

2:07:44 > 2:07:54to compete. Hee hope this blazes a trail for

2:07:54 > 2:07:59African countries to be able to come in and join in any and all winter

2:07:59 > 2:08:04sports, they can see it is totally possible.

2:08:04 > 2:08:07This man is living proof sport isn't limited to a country because of its

2:08:07 > 2:08:13climb. Temperatures don't drop below 20C in Ghana, that hasn't stopped

2:08:13 > 2:08:17him compete manager the skeleton Bob.

2:08:17 > 2:08:24IsI have been dreaming of them for 15 years, most people give up a long

2:08:24 > 2:08:30time ago. Second time I missed it. My shoulders were down, I had a

2:08:30 > 2:08:34tough time but through the strength of God, through my family, a lot of

2:08:34 > 2:08:39great people Sussex Police porting me, here I am to not only be here

2:08:39 > 2:08:43for my self but my country. 29 million people are watching. I am

2:08:43 > 2:08:49excited to wave the flag high and show Ghana is part of this.

2:08:49 > 2:08:54He decided to bypass the football obsession, instead learning to

2:08:54 > 2:09:01roller ski on the streets of a deprived favela.

2:09:01 > 2:09:04TRANSLATION:I come from a poor neighbourhood in San Paolo but I

2:09:04 > 2:09:11love to live there. It is where all my family and friends are.

2:09:11 > 2:09:16I started through a social project called skiing on the streets. It was

2:09:16 > 2:09:20set up by my former coach, that is how I started. On roller skis in

2:09:20 > 2:09:26Brazil. The eyes of the world are on

2:09:26 > 2:09:30Pyeongchang, the hope is that these bold athletes from all over the

2:09:30 > 2:09:33world will inspire a new generation to pursue their dreams.

2:09:33 > 2:09:36It doesn't matter where you are from, it is how bad you want it, how

2:09:36 > 2:09:43bad you want to be successful. You find a way to make it happen. It is

2:09:43 > 2:09:46very good to be an Olympian, it is great to represent my country,

2:09:46 > 2:09:50community and everybody in Brazilful I fought hard to come here, there

2:09:50 > 2:09:53was lots of competition but I am honoured to be the one who made it.

2:09:53 > 2:09:59We are like, gosh, we are carrying the Nigerian flag in a Winter

2:09:59 > 2:10:04Olympics. Gosh.

2:10:13 > 2:10:17Mr Shaun White. The finest of his generation.

2:10:17 > 2:10:22The eyes of the world are on this man.

2:10:22 > 2:10:32Absolutely massive.USA.His second gold medal.

2:10:32 > 2:10:38Shaun White unveils the tomahawk. That is against the laws of physics.

2:10:38 > 2:10:44Phenomenal.

2:10:44 > 2:10:49He is the most recognisable snowboarder on the planet, two time

2:10:49 > 2:10:52Olympic gold medallist already, he was looking to become the first

2:10:52 > 2:10:56rider to win three Olympic Golds but it is not all been smooth sailing

2:10:56 > 2:11:01for Shaun White, he has a score to set 8 after a fourth place finish in

2:11:01 > 2:11:06Sochi four years ago. The USA have had a clean sweep of the medals so

2:11:06 > 2:11:10far in snowboarding with slopestyle men and women's gold and Chloe Kim

2:11:10 > 2:11:14yesterday winning the women's pipe. Could Shaun White make it four out

2:11:14 > 2:11:22of four for team USA. Let us head over to the Phoenix park with Ed

2:11:22 > 2:11:37Leigh and Tim Warwood. Patberger in. He is loving it.His coach, you saw

2:11:37 > 2:11:42him duck out of shot. Pat one of the first riders to attack switch

2:11:42 > 2:11:44backside spins in the pipe.

2:11:44 > 2:11:46first riders to attack switch backside spins in the pipe.Yes,

2:11:46 > 2:11:52nine into a run solidly.The first one a switch back ten.So kicking

2:11:52 > 2:11:58things off. Nice and solid. The amplitude is there.Back-to-back

2:11:58 > 2:12:071080s.Front side 12. Now, backside 360. It is a set up trick. He needs

2:12:07 > 2:12:12to upgrade the degree of difficulty. Backside ten. Switch backside ten

2:12:12 > 2:12:18and then into the big heave-ho, the hands go up. There is the surf at

2:12:18 > 2:12:24the end. He is loving that. One of the biggest runs I have seen

2:12:24 > 2:12:30from Pat Burgener. He has great amplitude on the first two hits. And

2:12:30 > 2:12:39technically very very good. 84. The first big run we have seen

2:12:39 > 2:12:45landed. Next up Chase Josey. This man we call him the man in the

2:12:45 > 2:12:52mirror. His run is a reflection of itself. Forwards and backwards, his

2:12:52 > 2:12:58switch riding is incredible. He is going backwards, so pay close

2:12:58 > 2:13:02attention, switch double crippler. This is is a big trick.Switch

2:13:02 > 2:13:07double micro chuck.Love that. Into the front side. The switch front

2:13:07 > 2:13:15side 1080. The front side 900. And the double

2:13:15 > 2:13:22micro chuck. The only thing we were missing to make that the front side

2:13:22 > 2:13:279 instead of double crippler.Let me play devil's advocate here, he needs

2:13:27 > 2:13:33more rotation, we will see it from the boys later on.

2:13:33 > 2:13:3887.75. I have to say, the judges have put themselves in a difficult

2:13:38 > 2:13:43position already.Yes.We are pushing high 80s.

2:13:43 > 2:13:49Next in Scotty James. So much has been said about this man, he looks,

2:13:49 > 2:13:55he certainly looks relaxed. Smile on his face.Look at him, he

2:13:55 > 2:14:00is enjoying every minute of this.He has just seen one of his biggest

2:14:00 > 2:14:10rivals crash. So, the classic run is 12 to 12.Front side 1260.

2:14:10 > 2:14:16Oh my goodness there it is. Backside 1260. So back-to-back 12s,

2:14:16 > 2:14:26done. Backside nine, front side 900. Huge crippler, switch, backside...

2:14:26 > 2:14:341260. There it is. He's done it. What a run to lay down first go.

2:14:34 > 2:14:40That is ridiculous!

2:14:40 > 2:14:49That is ridiculous!Back-to-back 1260s. 92.

2:14:49 > 2:14:52So Scotty James moves into first place and Shaun White knows that the

2:14:52 > 2:14:58heat is son already. It is only first run, ladies and gentlemen, and

2:14:58 > 2:15:02Shaun White is getting a nudge from Scotty James.

2:15:02 > 2:15:08He has his eyes closed. He is taking a few deep breaths. Quick slap and

2:15:08 > 2:15:11clap with JJ Thomas his coach at the top there.

2:15:11 > 2:15:15This is where Shaun White comes into his own.

2:15:15 > 2:15:23He is brilliant under pressure.

2:15:25 > 2:15:32Oh, my goodness! That's absolutely massive! Into switch 1080! The sky

2:15:32 > 2:15:37hook. May be lost a tiny bit of speed there. He needs to put this

2:15:37 > 2:15:44down... Which he does! Oh, how did he hold onto that?! Frontside 12...

2:15:44 > 2:15:53He had to tuck his head in, it was like he was landing in the bow of

2:15:53 > 2:15:56the wave! His helmet has gone into the crowd, he looks like he's been

2:15:56 > 2:16:01electrocuted! They're behaving like it's the third run I need that back,

2:16:01 > 2:16:11who he said! Yes, you do, Shawn! We already know where this cost is

2:16:11 > 2:16:17going to improve, and its there. If he does get pushed, that's going to

2:16:17 > 2:16:24be a 1440.Yep.Shaun White is claiming it, but this is not third

2:16:24 > 2:16:28and final cost, we are finishing up only the first run here in the men's

2:16:28 > 2:16:35halfpipe final in Phoenix Park. , the scores. Scotty James tucked in

2:16:35 > 2:16:46just behind Shaun White.

2:16:54 > 2:17:00ED LEIGH: Currently in seventh place, Jake Pates.

2:17:00 > 2:17:06TIM WARWOOD: He fell on the last double cork 1260, so if he can put

2:17:06 > 2:17:15that down we should definitely see a high score.Stretching his

2:17:15 > 2:17:27hamstrings, just before he drops in. Powers into that one.Really nice,

2:17:27 > 2:17:31landing so high up the transition. No-one else rotates like him, do

2:17:31 > 2:17:42they? Now, front nine, all a bit flat. Double 1260... There it is. He

2:17:42 > 2:17:49landed that perfectly. I really liked that run.It was a really nice

2:17:49 > 2:17:54run, it really flowed, really solid. For me, amplitude might be the

2:17:54 > 2:17:59issue.On the big spins... The key is, when you look at the bigger

2:17:59 > 2:18:09spins, are they busy?Yeah. So, Jake Pates moves into sixth, just behind

2:18:09 > 2:18:13Patrick Burgener. The next rider, Ayumu Hirano, we are into our three

2:18:13 > 2:18:18final riders, and these are the men vying for gold.

2:18:30 > 2:18:40Stratospheric backside air from him! Frontside 14... Has he got the

2:18:40 > 2:18:45speed...? Yes, he has! Frontside 12... Is this going to be a backside

2:18:45 > 2:18:511260?! Is! And you know he was going to land it from the moment he took

2:18:51 > 2:18:57off! Ladies and gentlemen, the heat is on, it is on the street! Shaun

2:18:57 > 2:19:04White, look at the Japanese coaches! They deserved that, after Yuto

2:19:04 > 2:19:08Totsuka going down they needed some good news, and Ayumu Hirano has

2:19:08 > 2:19:12landed the biggest run there is in halfpipe snowboarding right now!

2:19:12 > 2:19:23Enormous backside air! Look at this! 5.5 metres! Into the frontside 1440!

2:19:23 > 2:19:28And just look at the composure, the grab is helping him to keep tight

2:19:28 > 2:19:34and spin as fast as he is.Shaun White is in the biggest fight of his

2:19:34 > 2:19:39Olympic career! He has never been put under this pressure! So,

2:19:39 > 2:19:46back-to-back 1440s, he follows that up with what looked like 900s,

2:19:46 > 2:19:51they're back-to-back 1260s.He's going so big, he's got so much time

2:19:51 > 2:19:56and the spins aren't rushed!Yeah, and again he's still got the

2:19:56 > 2:20:00amplitude even though it is his last hit on the pipe, he's got time to

2:20:00 > 2:20:11get it round. That is a run that would give the

2:20:11 > 2:20:14would give the scientists at Cerne a headache. We have talked long and

2:20:14 > 2:20:21hard about whether judges needed to go, and he moved into first place!I

2:20:21 > 2:20:28am just going to rip this script up, Ed! That's gone!Well, we knew this

2:20:28 > 2:20:33was going to happen, we knew it was going to be close! Shaun White has

2:20:33 > 2:20:36dominated halfpipe Riding for the last 12 years since he won his first

2:20:36 > 2:20:41gold in Turin, and now there are two men pushing him hard, we have just

2:20:41 > 2:20:48seen one of them drop and this is the second, Scotty James, the

2:20:48 > 2:20:53Australian, who won so many of the big contests in 2017. He was furious

2:20:53 > 2:20:58when he lost out to Shaun White in Snowmass three weeks ago. He landed

2:20:58 > 2:21:02the best run of his life and Shaun White scored a perfect 100 to steal

2:21:02 > 2:21:10his glory. Can he redeem himself your, frontside 1260...It was

2:21:10 > 2:21:13massive, into backside 1260... That's the best one he has ever done

2:21:13 > 2:21:24of those!Frontside 1080, look how high! Wow! Hold my breath...

2:21:24 > 2:21:30Backside 1260 with the hand down! He's try to claim it at the end of

2:21:30 > 2:21:35there!The switch Axar Patel 60. Massive!The biggest trick in

2:21:35 > 2:21:38snowboarding right now. And that's why it is hard, it is difficult. --

2:21:38 > 2:21:44the switch backside 1260.I would love to see that score broken down

2:21:44 > 2:21:49trick by trick, to see the individual scores would be

2:21:49 > 2:21:54phenomenal, because I think he was on target there. Certainly for a

2:21:54 > 2:22:01mid-90s score.Well, he's still in third place. Ayumu Hirano tops the

2:22:01 > 2:22:04leaderboard.Shaun White is in second place. That is not a number

2:22:04 > 2:22:10we are used to seeing next to Shaun White's name at the Olympics. This

2:22:10 > 2:22:14is a man who is so used to being given the luxury of a victory lap.

2:22:14 > 2:22:21Now, the fight of his life his third Olympic gold medal. Winds up into a

2:22:21 > 2:22:25huge frontside 1440.Are we going to see the 14 here...? It is low...

2:22:25 > 2:22:31Yes! Oh, he puts it down but he has lost all of his momentum into the

2:22:31 > 2:22:36540! The Tomahawk is there! Oh, it's not there! Is he cracking under the

2:22:36 > 2:22:41pressure?!

2:22:41 > 2:22:45pressure?! The first run helmet throw feels a very long way away for

2:22:45 > 2:22:53Shaun White right now. Shaun White, in very uncharted territory! All

2:22:53 > 2:22:59change at the top!

2:22:59 > 2:23:03change at the top! 95.25 four Ayumu Hirano, in gold medal position.

2:23:03 > 2:23:12Shaun White in silver, Scotty James in bronze.

2:23:14 > 2:23:21I would love to see Patrick Burgener land this run.Me, too. There is a

2:23:21 > 2:23:25man who is loving his snowboarding. Notice he's ditched the jacket, he's

2:23:25 > 2:23:30gone for more aerodynamics.Cranking those bindings down.

2:23:30 > 2:23:37ED LEIGH: Alpine riding is about aerial ability, but it's all -based,

2:23:37 > 2:23:44the foundation, is in board control and edge control, that's what gives

2:23:44 > 2:23:50you your power to launch tricks like that. 1080 on the second,

2:23:50 > 2:23:56back-to-back tens. Frontside 1260, and that was very tidy! Huge

2:23:56 > 2:24:04backside 360! Looking really good, this run. Oh, my goodness! Switch

2:24:04 > 2:24:10backside 1260 to switch double Michalchuck! That is a massive run!

2:24:10 > 2:24:16Huge run from Patrick Burgener! And it is the second helmet off we've

2:24:16 > 2:24:21seen, and it's just as justifiable! TIM WARWOOD: Absolutely frothing,

2:24:21 > 2:24:32isn't he?4.6 metres on the double. Landed right at the top of the

2:24:32 > 2:24:36transition and it has enabled him to get pretty much the same height,

2:24:36 > 2:24:41really good consistent height in this run, and this was beautiful,

2:24:41 > 2:24:46grabbed for the whole way round. Scotty James is in bronze medal

2:24:46 > 2:24:52position... And Patrick Burgener, fourth-place. He needed a 92 to beat

2:24:52 > 2:25:05Scotty James. Magnanimous in that fourth place.

2:25:05 > 2:25:11fourth place. So, Raibu Katayama is in sixth place. He needs to unleash

2:25:11 > 2:25:20hell.

2:25:20 > 2:25:26Blasts into his first hit.Yeah, huge backside air to start things

2:25:26 > 2:25:32off, into the frontside 1440.Tagged the landing a little bit but still

2:25:32 > 2:25:40got the 1080 round. Into the backside 1260...Lands flat, keep

2:25:40 > 2:25:49your speed up, come on!Massive front 12 on the last hit there? The

2:25:49 > 2:25:52amplitude dipped in the middle and maybe the technicality with the 900

2:25:52 > 2:25:58in there, but he got six hits. Ayumu Hirano only has five hits. I think

2:25:58 > 2:26:05Shaun only has five hits. So, the lower amplitude giving Raibu

2:26:05 > 2:26:12Katayama more hits in the pipe, but that is key and it is one of the

2:26:12 > 2:26:17most important thing is to understand in halfpipe riding, and

2:26:17 > 2:26:21that's why amplitude is given so much weight, because if you didn't,

2:26:21 > 2:26:26the riders would do the tricks smaller and yet more hits.Get more

2:26:26 > 2:26:30hits in, absolutely. It is like a multiplier on your score, rather

2:26:30 > 2:26:42than a flat score. 87 as we thought. So, sixth

2:26:42 > 2:26:50So, sixth place. Ben Ferguson, his halfpipe washed is unlike anyone

2:26:50 > 2:26:56else's. It's not about the numbers, it's not about the big spins, it's

2:26:56 > 2:27:01about linking creative, insanely difficult tricks and adding a little

2:27:01 > 2:27:07bit of flare like that backside grab. Big

2:27:10 > 2:27:15grab. Big clean air to fakey to kick off, best one he's done. Come on,

2:27:15 > 2:27:24Ben Ferguson! Huge backside 360! Biggest switch McCoist we've seen!

2:27:27 > 2:27:32-- McTwist. And that's the best version of that run I've ever seen

2:27:32 > 2:27:40from him! This is SO good! Everyone is giving us their best runs!He

2:27:40 > 2:27:47doesn't have the big spinny, flairy tricks that we're used to seeing

2:27:47 > 2:27:51from the other riders, but what it does have is the amplitude, the

2:27:51 > 2:27:57creativity, the variety.A very well-deserved fourth-place. Should

2:27:57 > 2:28:02it have pushed a little bit higher? The Japanese rider Ayumu Hirano

2:28:02 > 2:28:07currently in gold medal position. Is just landed the biggest run in

2:28:07 > 2:28:13halfpipe snowboarding. Can he better it?

2:28:15 > 2:28:19it?Well, those T-shirts that those guys are wearing, they say... Which

2:28:19 > 2:28:32means do your best. Keep up, cameraman!Enormous backside air!

2:28:32 > 2:28:3714... Oh, he's landed flat! And it's killed all of his speed! He's had to

2:28:37 > 2:28:42go for the ten. It's not to be.And he's gone on the front 12, he's

2:28:42 > 2:28:49cracked!It doesn't matter. We said it before. Is there anywhere left to

2:28:49 > 2:28:52go home and he's laid down the biggest run in halfpipe

2:28:52 > 2:28:58snowboarding, with enormous backside is up in, 14, 14, 12, 12, and they

2:28:58 > 2:29:08were very close to perfect. Yep. Two men left to go, Ayumu Hirano sits in

2:29:08 > 2:29:13gold medal position, but Scotty James and Shaun White are still to

2:29:13 > 2:29:18drop.He's taking home a medal, but what colour is it going to be?Only

2:29:18 > 2:29:25two men left to decide that. The Australian coach talking to the

2:29:25 > 2:29:30famously competitive Australian Scotty James. He was distraught when

2:29:30 > 2:29:37he lost to Shaun White in Snowmass. He has got to lay down the cost of

2:29:37 > 2:29:44his life now if he's going to overhaul Ayumu Hirano. He looks

2:29:44 > 2:29:53relaxed. There is a wry smile in the corners of his mouth.

2:29:53 > 2:29:59I think I said it yesterday, he doesn't wear boxing gloves by

2:29:59 > 2:30:03coincidence, he needs the run of his life here.

2:30:03 > 2:30:11Big frontside 1260. Backside 1260. Camera join us, there

2:30:11 > 2:30:21it is.Oh no! Scotty James will be the bronze medallist today. And for

2:30:21 > 2:30:28the first time in a long time, it is by his own hand.Yes, Scotty James

2:30:28 > 2:30:33had the potential I think with his biggest run today, potentially to

2:30:33 > 2:30:38take that. He waves to the crowd. No shortage of love. I think he can

2:30:38 > 2:30:46walk away and say he gave his best. The fact he hasn't gone home with a

2:30:46 > 2:30:49gold, that may have started in Snowmass three weeks' ago, when he

2:30:49 > 2:30:53lost to Shaun White after landing his best run and Shaun scored that

2:30:53 > 2:30:59perfect 100. So Scotty James is now a passenger

2:30:59 > 2:31:04with a bronze medal, watching the fight for gold.

2:31:04 > 2:31:10Shaun White, the most successful halfpipe snowboarder of all time is

2:31:10 > 2:31:15about to drop in and he is in unfamiliar territory. Every time he

2:31:15 > 2:31:19has taken the gold it has been with the luxury of a victory lap. Now he

2:31:19 > 2:31:26is under pressure. He needs 95.25 and the run of his life.

2:31:26 > 2:31:31Frontside 1440.

2:31:32 > 2:31:37Frontside 1440. Switch 1440. The sky hook. The fixture of every winning

2:31:37 > 2:31:43Shaun White run.Plenty of time for that. Yes, now Shaun White, can he?

2:31:43 > 2:31:49Oh! My goodness! It is no longer about the snowboard, it is about the

2:31:49 > 2:31:55judges. Look at him. The first time Shaun White has landed that run in

2:31:55 > 2:31:59competition. Scotty James looks down, he can't believe that Shaun

2:31:59 > 2:32:05has found another gear and I don't think Hirano can.Shaun White might

2:32:05 > 2:32:11have done it. Let's wait and see what the scores are saying.Well it

2:32:11 > 2:32:18was a backside air, the difference teen them is a a backside air and a

2:32:18 > 2:32:22frontside 40.This could be history. Judge, put the world out of its

2:32:22 > 2:32:27mystery. We are getting the replays first,

2:32:27 > 2:32:32Tim. Well, look at the direction of the,

2:32:32 > 2:32:37his head is looking almost out of the rotation. He is just using every

2:32:37 > 2:32:43ounce of his fibre to get these tricks around. The toe grab there.

2:32:43 > 2:32:48Frowned upon in snowboarding,It is a testament to the amplitude he is

2:32:48 > 2:32:53not requiring a body grab to get that round either. The sky hook. The

2:32:53 > 2:33:02grab on that. And then here, this is his trademark signature manoeuvre he

2:33:02 > 2:33:08unveiled in Vancouver. The double McTwist. So two inverted 540s, and

2:33:08 > 2:33:18here is the other 1260. You have to say, just realised Hirano is using

2:33:18 > 2:33:24the backside air.Shaun put that big dangerous trick in higher up the

2:33:24 > 2:33:30pipe. That is Morris, that is more points.Shaun White polarises

2:33:30 > 2:33:36opinion in snowboarding, he has been the most dedicated competitor, he

2:33:36 > 2:33:42has been accused of going -- 97.75. He is the gold medallist here in

2:33:42 > 2:33:492018. Say what you want about him, think what you want about him, Shaun

2:33:49 > 2:33:55White has won today, that was an incredible display of halfpipe

2:33:55 > 2:33:59snowboarding and no-one can take that away from him. Look what it

2:33:59 > 2:34:04means, he has played it cool. It is a second silver medal for Hirano but

2:34:04 > 2:34:08I don't think he can have any complaints.

2:34:08 > 2:34:16It was not a difficult decision for the judges. And after a heated

2:34:16 > 2:34:19season, a magnanimous handshake from Scotty James, to congratulate the

2:34:19 > 2:34:30gold medallist. Today was brilliant. Simply brilliant. Shaun White truly

2:34:30 > 2:34:37tested for the first time in 12 years. And he has delivered in some

2:34:37 > 2:34:45style.My goodness me, that was absolutely breathtaking. And he has

2:34:45 > 2:34:54put on a Masterclass here at Phoenix Park, to take the Gold Medal.Clean

2:34:54 > 2:34:57sweep for freestyle snowboarding here. Congratulations. Just how hard

2:34:57 > 2:35:02was that final? It was tough. My first run was really great. I did

2:35:02 > 2:35:07the biggest 14 of my life, I don't think I will ever do and that set

2:35:07 > 2:35:09the tone for the rest

2:35:09 > 2:35:09think I will ever do and that set the tone for the rest of the

2:35:09 > 2:35:16competition. I was hoping I was going to hold and skate into the

2:35:16 > 2:35:20first, but he put down an amazing run, second run was awash, came

2:35:20 > 2:35:23through with the last run and that is kind of my spot. Last run,

2:35:23 > 2:35:30pressure is on, put it down, man, it was great.A word on Amy Williams --

2:35:30 > 2:35:34Ayumu Hirano and Scotty. The guys are super-talented, we all hugged it

2:35:34 > 2:35:39out at the end because it has been this sort of tension, it has been

2:35:39 > 2:35:43battling it out. Not the nicest smiles at the top. We are all

2:35:43 > 2:35:48fighting for the same thing, and, I am proud to come out on top today

2:35:48 > 2:35:52and I amful for those guys because they pushed me to get to this point

2:35:52 > 2:35:57to do these kind of runs.Absolutely sensational stuff on the halfpipe.

2:35:57 > 2:36:04That could go down for years as one of the great finals, Shaun White had

2:36:04 > 2:36:09to bring his absolute best, just stunning stuff. Right, back to

2:36:09 > 2:36:14today's live sport, the Nordic combined has fallen victim to one of

2:36:14 > 2:36:18these Pyeongchang weather delays, we are were hoping to bring you it live

2:36:18 > 2:36:23so it will be on BBC Red Button just before 9.00, you will get the

2:36:23 > 2:36:27highlights of the ski jump and then we will bring you the cross-country

2:36:27 > 2:36:32element of that live. Instead, we are heading to the

2:36:32 > 2:36:36Hockey Centre for the women's ice hockey group stage, Korea are

2:36:36 > 2:36:40playing Japan. They are in the second period. First of all let us

2:36:40 > 2:36:42look back at what happened during

2:36:42 > 2:36:42second period. First of all let us look back at what happened during

2:36:42 > 2:36:52the first period. Here we go then. Japan against Korea, under way, the

2:36:52 > 2:36:58atmosphere in this building is absolutely electric. So loud. And

2:36:58 > 2:37:02the question will be can Korea give them something to really cheer

2:37:02 > 2:37:07about?

2:37:07 > 2:37:16about? Deep into the zone. Osawa with speed. Using her strength on

2:37:16 > 2:37:23the outside. It would be some achievement if

2:37:23 > 2:37:29Korea were to get something out of this. But floats into position, and

2:37:29 > 2:37:36finds the back of the net.A wonderful vision by Toko behind the

2:37:36 > 2:37:48net. Had he head up. Sees them coming down, right through the slot.

2:37:48 > 2:37:53They are swinging round. The left side. Rebound, goal. Oh no, on the

2:37:53 > 2:37:59doorstep. This is exactly how you draw up a

2:37:59 > 2:38:04power play goal, you move it around up top, you overload down low in

2:38:04 > 2:38:10front of the net.

2:38:10 > 2:38:13up top, you overload down low in front of the net.

2:38:13 > 2:38:18That is you almost up-to-date. Korea have just scored and they are on the

2:38:18 > 2:38:24come back. Let us join our commentators at the Hockey Centre

2:38:24 > 2:38:33for Korea against Japan.An historic moment. Griff inscores Korea's first

2:38:33 > 2:38:40goal at Olympic ice hockey. Griffin battled and in the end it went

2:38:40 > 2:38:42through. Not a thing of beauty but a moment

2:38:42 > 2:38:46through. Not a thing of beauty but a moment of history. For this combined

2:38:46 > 2:38:50Korean team, and whether you are from the north or the south, you are

2:38:50 > 2:38:54be on your feet and cheering that goal.

2:38:54 > 2:39:00What a second effort from Griffin. Jumped on the loose puck inside the

2:39:00 > 2:39:05blue line, it wasn't the heart of the shot but it deflected off the

2:39:05 > 2:39:09Japanese defender, that was just enough to upset the netminder. And

2:39:09 > 2:39:15it was able to slide through her legs and you can see there goes the

2:39:15 > 2:39:25historical puck, that one is being kept. Put away for safe keeping.

2:39:25 > 2:39:31And so interesting that a huge moment in the history of Korean ice

2:39:31 > 2:39:40hockey. It has been scored by Griffin. Somebody who their life,

2:39:40 > 2:39:45their career of hockey has been based in North America, but now is

2:39:45 > 2:39:49their chance and maybe they are going to look for more, a two on

2:39:49 > 2:39:54one, can they make it again? They can't. Beautiful play there. And

2:39:54 > 2:39:59now, all of a sudden the confidence is flowing through this Korean team,

2:39:59 > 2:40:02and this arena believes that maybe, just maybe they can come back in

2:40:02 > 2:40:12this game. It's a bit of a standard Japanese side. Now we are getting

2:40:12 > 2:40:22tempers flare here. We see Toko from Japan getting into it. I think there

2:40:22 > 2:40:29will be a couple of penalties, as arms andel goes got put up in the

2:40:29 > 2:40:32face, the momentum has shifted, at least for the last couple of minute,

2:40:32 > 2:40:38it is right after the goal from Griffin, a two on one from Korea.

2:40:38 > 2:40:45Nice toe drag there. Past back door. And just couldn't get it high

2:40:45 > 2:40:56enough. There is another look at that goal. The netminder opens up

2:40:56 > 2:41:00her pads and she could not react in time.

2:41:00 > 2:41:09And that says it all, doesn't it. Brilliant.

2:41:09 > 2:41:18The flags are waving and it is right now, it is unified within the arena.

2:41:19 > 2:41:28The support for Randi Griffin who was invited to join this team by the

2:41:28 > 2:41:36head coach.Korean born mother.Big shot off the face off.

2:41:36 > 2:41:41Doesn't appear any penalties were called after that little infraction,

2:41:41 > 2:41:49the referee is happy to let things go in this game a little bit.

2:41:51 > 2:41:55You get the sense Japan finds itself in a situation they never thought

2:41:55 > 2:42:01they would be in, and that is only one goal half way through this game.

2:42:01 > 2:42:06I don't think anybody predicted that was going to be the case.

2:42:06 > 2:42:12You do wonder whether Fujimoto not playing, we don't know if there is

2:42:12 > 2:42:17an injury but she has been the starting netminder so far for Japan.

2:42:17 > 2:42:22Maybe the number one should be making that save.

2:42:22 > 2:42:28Here we go then, we have a proper game of hockey between these two

2:42:28 > 2:42:33sides. Remember, both already missing out on a place in the

2:42:33 > 2:42:37quarterfinals, but this could give them in the opportunity to ensure

2:42:37 > 2:42:40they don't finish bottom of the group.

2:42:40 > 2:42:49Here come the Japanese again, that is a good attempt on goal.

2:42:51 > 2:42:59is a good attempt on goal. That is a good outlet pass, now, it is thes if

2:42:59 > 2:43:01sent Korean, they are bubbling away here, they are feeding off the noise

2:43:01 > 2:43:10in this arena. Fujimoto off the line at the other

2:43:10 > 2:43:15end. Triestings to feed it in on net. If they could ride this wave to

2:43:15 > 2:43:20the end of the period. Japan are well and truly rattled.

2:43:20 > 2:43:29-- tries to feed it. Fujimoto. Pushes it towards the net but it is

2:43:29 > 2:43:35behind Osawa. Back to blue line. They would break here. Korea has

2:43:35 > 2:43:39done an excellent job staying in the shooting lanes of the Japanese

2:43:39 > 2:43:44shots. Several blocked shot hearse in the second period alone. That,

2:43:44 > 2:43:50does a wonderful job to change the momentum. Japanese had all the

2:43:50 > 2:43:54control, puck possession, it comes out of the zone and Japan has to

2:43:54 > 2:43:59regroup. Try to attack again. Here is Griffin the goal scorer gets it

2:43:59 > 2:44:02into the front of the net. This could be a scoring opportunity. It

2:44:02 > 2:44:05is put just wide. Looking for the tip.

2:44:05 > 2:44:12Didn't quite come. Now Japan come back the other way. This is a good

2:44:12 > 2:44:22opportunity. Strong skating from the Captain Osawa.

2:44:22 > 2:44:27Korea.

2:44:27 > 2:44:32Korea. Sent back again. Lots of space out in front, if they can use

2:44:32 > 2:44:35it, the sharp angled shot misses the net.

2:44:35 > 2:44:44Japan seem to have regained some composure, swept in at goal again.

2:44:44 > 2:44:53Nakamora with the effort. Deflects wide.

2:44:53 > 2:44:57Deflects wide. Nakamora will deflect. There is all sort ofs going

2:44:57 > 2:45:01out in front. The majority of it falls outside the rules of the game.

2:45:01 > 2:45:07Any way, we play on.

2:45:10 > 2:45:21Good battle on the boards.

2:45:23 > 2:45:28Strength coming from Kim Hyang Mi. That's the right play, give your

2:45:28 > 2:45:34team a chance to catch their breath. We saw earlier the hand pass, you

2:45:34 > 2:45:37are allowed to do that in the defensive zone. Let's have a look at

2:45:37 > 2:45:45this goal again from Randi Griffin. She did not realise it went in until

2:45:45 > 2:45:51her line mates came to celebrate! But in a few years' time, they won't

2:45:51 > 2:45:59ask how, will they?!

2:46:05 > 2:46:13Stretch pass looking for Kubo. Now a chance to walk in and walk in...!

2:46:13 > 2:46:18Just wide!

2:46:20 > 2:46:23Just wide!Toko was late on the play but made just a bit of contact with

2:46:23 > 2:46:28the puck.

2:46:30 > 2:46:35the puck. Ukita missed the last match after getting hauled up by the

2:46:35 > 2:46:41committee for aiding a kick in the -- for aiming a kick in the opening

2:46:41 > 2:46:52game of the tournament. No goal! That's what the officials say. Kubo

2:46:52 > 2:46:58is in there as well. This is fierce out there right now!It really is,

2:46:58 > 2:47:02the intensity is ramped up considerably! Really nice net drive

2:47:02 > 2:47:08from Kubo, using her strength to take the puck to the net. And you've

2:47:08 > 2:47:12got Toko and Ukita trying to jam the puck through. You can't use your

2:47:12 > 2:47:21stick to push the goalie's pad across the line. You can just see it

2:47:21 > 2:47:26sitting right beside the net Brahma here is the overhead view of that

2:47:26 > 2:47:31historic goal.

2:47:31 > 2:47:34historic goal. You really get a sense of how that was coming through

2:47:34 > 2:47:40towards the Japanese goalie! But I think it was just the kiss of the

2:47:40 > 2:47:46puck against the Japanese defenceman Toko which confused Konishi just

2:47:46 > 2:47:52enough for it to go between the legs.

2:47:54 > 2:47:58legs.Everything has been done in unison except for that one moment,

2:47:58 > 2:48:03where all of a sudden they were all jumping up and down! That's a great

2:48:03 > 2:48:08point, they have been so strict and precise in their cheers - that was

2:48:08 > 2:48:14just absolute pandemonium. That's what sport does, though. And these

2:48:14 > 2:48:18probably will be seen as the two worst sides in this tournament when

2:48:18 > 2:48:26the rankings come out at the end of it. But for the last 15 minutes,

2:48:26 > 2:48:29this has been an incredible game of ice hockey, and in that one moment,

2:48:29 > 2:48:37the nation of Korea did something it has not done for a very, very long

2:48:37 > 2:48:43time, and that's celebrate something as one.

2:48:47 > 2:48:56Japan, in possession. In that zone, with Suzuki. Was hoping for

2:48:56 > 2:49:05something there but it did not quite come to fruition.

2:49:05 > 2:49:12come to fruition. Now, trying to work the backhand side... Good save.

2:49:12 > 2:49:18Easily the best skater on this Japanese team, she makes something

2:49:18 > 2:49:22happen every time that puck is on her stick. Gets down so low to drive

2:49:22 > 2:49:34to the net, Osawa. Tries to shovel a backhand.

2:49:34 > 2:49:42backhand. But the goalie was able to handle it relatively easily.

2:49:42 > 2:49:45handle it relatively easily.Nice little reverse play. And now,

2:49:45 > 2:49:52skating clear. They have found a different gear here! I don't know

2:49:52 > 2:49:55whether they've been playing with nerves or concerns... This could be

2:49:55 > 2:50:01an opportunity... Oh, dear!

2:50:01 > 2:50:06an opportunity... Oh, dear! Very nearly a huge opportunity for Japan!

2:50:06 > 2:50:18How about that block by Hyein Ko? She felt that one for sure! Got down

2:50:18 > 2:50:20onto her all forced to take away that scoring chance from the

2:50:20 > 2:50:26Japanese defender.

2:50:26 > 2:50:33Japanese defender. -- on her all fours.Played all the way around the

2:50:33 > 2:50:43boards by Selin Kim. Osawa, long shift...

2:50:43 > 2:50:49shift... Shin So Jung hangs on again.

2:50:52 > 2:50:59again.2.45 left here in the second period, and Shin So Jung is going to

2:50:59 > 2:51:03be called upon a few more times before this period is out, and, of

2:51:03 > 2:51:06course, into the third period, but she has done a wonderful job keeping

2:51:06 > 2:51:13this just a one goal game for her Korean side up until now.

2:51:19 > 2:51:28This will be some story for Randi Griffin to tell when she starts her

2:51:28 > 2:51:32induction day at Duke University when she goes to study her PhD in

2:51:32 > 2:51:39evolutionary anthropology, as this could be another chance for Japan...

2:51:39 > 2:51:46Yeah, I happened to score Korea's first ever ice hockey goal - by way

2:51:46 > 2:51:55of introduction! And Japan having a little pushy. Penalty could have

2:51:55 > 2:52:03been called then, and it may well be called now. Arms in the air, Korea

2:52:03 > 2:52:09are going to go to the penalty box. As long as Japan don't score,

2:52:09 > 2:52:14they've got a six on five advantage at the moment. The whistle will blow

2:52:14 > 2:52:19as soon is Korea touch the puck and it remains alive. They're being

2:52:19 > 2:52:23dragged all over the place. 90 seconds to go in the period. Nice

2:52:23 > 2:52:30move to the middle from Toko. Need a little more control than that from

2:52:30 > 2:52:36Korea for the whistle to go.

2:52:38 > 2:52:41Korea for the whistle to go. Now, the whistle does finally blow. And

2:52:41 > 2:52:52there will be a penalty.

2:52:54 > 2:52:59It is on Lee Jingyu, and this is what she did.Shoulder to shoulder

2:52:59 > 2:53:04there!

2:53:06 > 2:53:12there! And the Japanese player got hit heavily into the boards! What

2:53:12 > 2:53:14did I do?!

2:53:22 > 2:53:35Some big moments in this game. Back on that blue line.

2:53:41 > 2:53:49Japan 141 on the power play. -- digital one. They have not got that

2:53:49 > 2:53:58top unit out there right now, though. -- one for one.Yeah, the

2:53:58 > 2:54:01top unit for Japan was out there when the penalty was called, and

2:54:01 > 2:54:08then, of course, Japan pulled their goalie for six attackers and it went

2:54:08 > 2:54:13on for another 30 seconds Channel 9 were tired to start. Here come Japan

2:54:13 > 2:54:24again, that comes off the blocker. Snapshot! Still the chance is there!

2:54:24 > 2:54:32And that's really good from Shin. And that is old-fashioned. You could

2:54:32 > 2:54:38have seen that in the '70s or 80s, the defenceman just clearing out!

2:54:38 > 2:54:43Yeah, old-fashioned, or you could even call it Canadian hockey! May be

2:54:43 > 2:54:48a little bit fitting that it was a Canadian, Randi Griffin, applying

2:54:48 > 2:54:54the pressure. She does have a real physical side to her again. Not only

2:54:54 > 2:55:00a real soft touch, of course, getting the huge goal full Korea,

2:55:00 > 2:55:04but not shy when it comes to the contact part of the game. The

2:55:04 > 2:55:11history maker, Randi Griffin, scores goal for the hosts, Korea! She will

2:55:11 > 2:55:17be acquired to do her interviews now in the tunnel in between periods!

2:55:17 > 2:55:21But what a moment that was, what a moment to share with the world! And

2:55:21 > 2:55:26the squad from North Korea, they were up on their feet cheering. The

2:55:26 > 2:55:31game still has 20 minutes to go. Japan, rattled but they leave this

2:55:31 > 2:55:36one by 2-1. -- they lead.

2:55:41 > 2:55:46Eyelid it is all to play for in that one. But if it is is short, sharp

2:55:46 > 2:55:52adrenaline followed by lung bursting during endurance you are after, then

2:55:52 > 2:55:57the Nordic combined might be for you. It is a ski jump followed by a

2:55:57 > 2:56:00ten kilometre cross-country ski. The results of the ski jump determine

2:56:00 > 2:56:04when and where you start in the cross-country. Want to look out for

2:56:04 > 2:56:08is the Japanese athlete, who is leading the World Cup standings at

2:56:08 > 2:56:13the moment. A silver medallist in Sochi, and he has his sights set on

2:56:13 > 2:56:17Pyeongchang gold. Lets round-up the best of the ski jump element first

2:56:17 > 2:56:23of all with your commentator Ollie Williams.

2:56:41 > 2:56:51Look at that! What a jump! His best result this year is only seventh on

2:56:51 > 2:56:55the world cup circuit! That has got to be his biggest jump of the season

2:56:55 > 2:57:00by a mile!

2:57:03 > 2:57:05by a mile! Perfect form, right on top of the jumper, that's where you

2:57:05 > 2:57:14get the maximum lift from the air underneath you.

2:57:22 > 2:57:27Look at the excitement on the face of Franz-Josef Rehrl, that has just

2:57:27 > 2:57:31made his cross-country ski a lot easier! And we are into the last ten

2:57:31 > 2:57:36athletes in Nordic combined, the last ten highest ranked athletes and

2:57:36 > 2:57:40the distance they get on the jumper determines where they start in the

2:57:40 > 2:57:44cross-country ski breach comes after, determines the medals. The

2:57:44 > 2:57:47better your jump now, the more of a head start you are going to get on

2:57:47 > 2:57:55the ski. So this counts huge amounts for the rest of your competition.

2:57:55 > 2:57:57Rebate for Lukas Klapfer from Austria to get the green light...

2:57:57 > 2:58:06And there it goes. And the 32-year-old

2:58:06 > 2:58:0932-year-old heads down the in-run and launches himself off the table

2:58:09 > 2:58:13and into the air... And that's not a bad jump. You can see it as a couple

2:58:13 > 2:58:19of metres short of the distance set by Franz-Josef Rehrl earlier in the

2:58:19 > 2:58:23competition.

2:58:24 > 2:58:27competition. And you can tell that Lukas Klapfer is a happy man with

2:58:27 > 2:58:35that. He is a good jumper, but arguably even better in the skiing.

2:58:35 > 2:58:39So, whatever he can get out of this will really help him later on and

2:58:39 > 2:58:43that looks like a really strong jump. It took him a while this week

2:58:43 > 2:58:48to dial in his jumping on this hill just he has struggled these past few

2:58:48 > 2:58:55days, but a lot of... Look at that reaction! The judges have given the

2:58:55 > 2:58:59best marks we've seen all day, and that is an excellent jump which is

2:58:59 > 2:59:03going to leave him in second and will put him about 30 seconds behind

2:59:03 > 2:59:09his team-mate Franz-Josef Rehrl. And here are one of the big rivals to

2:59:09 > 2:59:16Austria - Norway. Jarl Magnus Riiber is not necessarily the number one

2:59:16 > 2:59:19Norwegian, years only 20 years old, essentially being blooded for the

2:59:19 > 2:59:23first time, but he is a former junior world champion and is already

2:59:23 > 2:59:29ninth in the world, despite never having been to an Olympics or World

2:59:29 > 2:59:40Championships. Let's see what he's got. Oh, yes! That is a beautiful

2:59:40 > 2:59:47jump from Jarl Magnus Riiber, immediately answers Lukas Klapfer

2:59:47 > 2:59:47jump from Jarl Magnus Riiber, immediately answers Lukas Klapfer,

2:59:47 > 2:59:51pushing right up to that monster jump which we saw earlier from

2:59:51 > 3:00:01Franz-Josef Rehrl. Controlled it on the way down as well.

3:00:01 > 3:00:03the way down as well. Norwegian coaches very, very happy. As I say

3:00:03 > 3:00:08he is by no means the focus of this Norwegian team. We're going to see

3:00:08 > 3:00:11two or three more excellent contenders coming up, but this is

3:00:11 > 3:00:16going to be a very good score. Bottom right-hand corner... And that

3:00:16 > 3:00:20puts him just 15 seconds behind Franz-Josef Rehrl, and I think

3:00:20 > 3:00:27Franz-Josef Rehrl can't believe that he started at number 27 and is still

3:00:27 > 3:00:31well into the top ten! Now, the defending Olympic champion Eric

3:00:31 > 3:00:38Frenzel. Superstar of this sport, flag bearer for Germany in Sweden.

3:00:38 > 3:00:45Has he got more? No, not quite. -- for Germany this week. Well, that is

3:00:45 > 3:00:49possibly not enough from Eric Frenzel. He hasn't had a great

3:00:49 > 3:00:54season on paper. He's been experimenting a little bit with a

3:00:54 > 3:00:57few different techniques, he has settled back into his old way of

3:00:57 > 3:01:01doing things and he looked like he was jumping well. Is always one of

3:01:01 > 3:01:05the top skiers, but if his jump doesn't work quite as well as he

3:01:05 > 3:01:08would like, which looks like is the case here, it may make things a

3:01:08 > 3:01:14little tougher for him. In Sochi, when he won the Olympic gold, he won

3:01:14 > 3:01:20the jump with a strong style score. Let's see what happens this time.

3:01:20 > 3:01:25That style score again is very, very good. But the distance is what has

3:01:25 > 3:01:28let Eric Frenzel down, and he is only in fourth place so far affect

3:01:28 > 3:01:34some of the biggest names come. Now, from Finland, Eero Hirvonen. Good

3:01:34 > 3:01:42all-rounder. Best on the Finnish team so far this winter. Couldn't

3:01:42 > 3:01:48quite hit that distance that we seen from Franz-Josef Rehrl. 102 metres

3:01:48 > 3:01:51is, I would say, four or five metres further back than he would have

3:01:51 > 3:02:00wanted. I was saying a little earlier on today that the Finnish

3:02:00 > 3:02:04team is aiming for a comeback in this sport, and this is the Mannus

3:02:04 > 3:02:10now looking at, Eero Hirvonen. The programme has grown essentially to

3:02:10 > 3:02:15accommodate him over the last four or five years. He was ninth at the

3:02:15 > 3:02:18World Championships last year. The judges really like his style, the

3:02:18 > 3:02:22distance wasn't quite what he would want and he has gone into fifth

3:02:22 > 3:02:31place. Our next Norwegian is Espen Andersen. The gate compensation

3:02:31 > 3:02:35score you can see, it means the gate has been changed, to give him less

3:02:35 > 3:02:41speed coming in, to accommodate the wind conditions, and it means you

3:02:41 > 3:02:45are not able to jump as far and you get compensation points for that.

3:02:45 > 3:02:49So, when you are at the distance on that jump you have to fact that in.

3:02:49 > 3:02:53He was not going quite as fast as the other competitors. Even with

3:02:53 > 3:03:02that he has done 104.5 metres, so that's a good jumper.

3:03:02 > 3:03:05that's a good jumper. -- good jump. There are four elements to your

3:03:05 > 3:03:12score, the distance, the style, the wind compensation and your gate

3:03:12 > 3:03:15compensation depending on whether you start gate was moved up or down

3:03:15 > 3:03:25on your in-run.

3:03:25 > 3:03:30on your in-run. And that nervous countdown begins again, Johannes

3:03:30 > 3:03:43Rydzek. Green light.

3:03:46 > 3:03:54Too short. Too short for Johannes Rydzek to be happy with that. Last

3:03:54 > 3:03:58year at the World Championships, he won the normal hill, the large hill,

3:03:58 > 3:04:03the team gold with the Germans. He has won the normal hill world title

3:04:03 > 3:04:07twice in a row - and he's hard to beat in the cross-country, that's

3:04:07 > 3:04:16the key. But he needs a perfect jump, and I don't think that was it.

3:04:24 > 3:04:30Now, a rueful wave from Johannes Rydzek, the form was OK but the

3:04:30 > 3:04:38distance really punished him there, only intent place. Now, Norway, 26

3:04:38 > 3:04:44your old Joergen Graabak. Large hill Olympic champion and team champion

3:04:44 > 3:04:49from Sochi 2014.

3:04:49 > 3:04:56from Sochi 2014. Oh! No good! No good at all!

3:04:56 > 3:05:01good at all! Joergen Graabak has just seen his chances of winning a

3:05:01 > 3:05:05medal today if upper and I think. Ranked third in the world he has had

3:05:05 > 3:05:09a bit of a quiet season after exploding on the scene. He has a

3:05:09 > 3:05:14really good sprint finish technique in the ski. If you are neck and neck

3:05:14 > 3:05:17with him, he's probably going to beat you, but it doesn't matter if

3:05:17 > 3:05:19you don't get the jump.

3:05:26 > 3:05:33Those pine strings are for depth perception.

3:05:33 > 3:05:422022nd place. Painful. That really puts a dent in Norway's hope. What

3:05:42 > 3:05:46about Smith. The last Norwegian Anne to go. Missed Sochi, can he come

3:05:46 > 3:05:55back in Pyeongchang? No. And that is a series now of

3:05:55 > 3:05:59three or four jumps that just haven't happened. I wonder a bit

3:05:59 > 3:06:03again, if the frustration at the bottom of the jump is about the wind

3:06:03 > 3:06:07conditions and the change in those. Because often when you see three or

3:06:07 > 3:06:11four athletes in a row struggle, it might mean they are not getting the

3:06:11 > 3:06:15response from the wind they are looking for and that gesture, the

3:06:15 > 3:06:21shrug of the shoulders is as much as at the wind than anything else. The

3:06:21 > 3:06:26jury is there for an, gives you the go-ahead to jump. Form was OK, but

3:06:26 > 3:06:33look at that. An unhappy camper, 88.8. 30th place.

3:06:33 > 3:06:40Thank you and good night. We are down to one competitor to go.

3:06:40 > 3:06:50The favourite. Watabe from jn. The best in the season without a doubt.

3:06:50 > 3:06:54Five World Cup wins, a great all rounder, what about him? There you

3:06:54 > 3:07:03go. Not quite the furthest jump we have seen but far in advance of the

3:07:03 > 3:07:09last few, that kind of distance will leave him in with a chance. 105.5

3:07:09 > 3:07:19metres. Watabe from Japan. Comes into this

3:07:19 > 3:07:24with a lot of pressure on his shoulder, his country expects him to

3:07:24 > 3:07:31win this gold medal. That jump five or six metres behind the distance of

3:07:31 > 3:07:38the leader. We will take a look at the judges' scores coming up now.

3:07:38 > 3:07:44And that will tell us our starting order for the ski, so there you go,

3:07:44 > 3:07:50third place with 123.7. It means Watabe will start 28th -- 28 seconds

3:07:50 > 3:07:56back on a course he loves. He is going to be chasing that man.

3:07:56 > 3:08:00Franz-Josef Rehrl. Somewhat unbelievably you can see written in

3:08:00 > 3:08:05his face, pulled off a 112 metre jump, and is your leader after the

3:08:05 > 3:08:11ski jump and loving every minute of it.

3:08:12 > 3:08:17So with the ski jumping complete World Cup leader Watabe looks a good

3:08:17 > 3:08:27bet to upgrade his silver into gold. He sits in third place. The German

3:08:27 > 3:08:35is the reigning champion from Sochi, four years ago and he is eight

3:08:35 > 3:08:37seconds behind Watabe heading into what could be a fascinating

3:08:37 > 3:08:40cross-country, if you want to see that cross-country and find out who

3:08:40 > 3:08:44will claim gold in this individual Nordic combined normal hill, you can

3:08:44 > 3:08:51head over to the BBC Red Button and join that cross-country race live.

3:08:51 > 3:08:57We are going to head back to the hockey seven the Sweden faced

3:08:57 > 3:09:02Switzerland, it was a rerun of the bronze medal match in Sochi four

3:09:02 > 3:09:05years ago, both teams have qualified to the knock out stages so let us

3:09:05 > 3:09:13get a look back at the best bits with your commentators Ken Simpson

3:09:13 > 3:09:20and Seth Ben any. We are ready to go in the final pool one game. We are

3:09:20 > 3:09:26under way. The first face off is won by the Swiss. They are wearing the

3:09:26 > 3:09:35jerseys with the flashes round the arms.Tested early on. Here is Meir

3:09:35 > 3:09:43working the right side. Gets it back from Muller. Gives it back to Meir.

3:09:43 > 3:09:50What a goal! Muller number six in the tournament for her. As she

3:09:50 > 3:09:57rattled that one home on the power play. Watch the fake here from

3:09:57 > 3:10:00Meier, a wonderful job getting the defender and the goal tender to

3:10:00 > 3:10:07fight a bit. What does that do? That allows even just the slightest of

3:10:07 > 3:10:15holes to open up from Muller to put that in. Anyone who is watching

3:10:15 > 3:10:18knows she wasn't me tending he was injured there, but you continue to

3:10:18 > 3:10:28play.What a finish! Finally it comes.The most dangerous Swede

3:10:28 > 3:10:38here. Olsson a terrific shot pass from the point. Look at her just

3:10:38 > 3:10:42angle her stick blade absolutely perfectly, to get it up over the

3:10:42 > 3:10:46glove.

3:10:46 > 3:10:53Back to the top it goes and Muller. Thinks about it. Meier crosses over,

3:10:53 > 3:11:01she puts it in the net and they score.

3:11:01 > 3:11:08Stanz on the power play and Switzerland have the lead again.

3:11:08 > 3:11:13Christine Meier continues to impress. Creates a lane back door,

3:11:13 > 3:11:17that is her sixth assist on the tournament. Terrific set up from

3:11:17 > 3:11:25Switzerland, moving the puck from right to left. Stanz doing to the

3:11:25 > 3:11:29front of the net. Another face off win for Muller.

3:11:29 > 3:11:34You know what? That is going to make such a difference as it comes out in

3:11:34 > 3:11:37front again, that is going to go out of the zone, Switzerland are going

3:11:37 > 3:11:45to win. They will top group one. Down hill

3:11:45 > 3:11:48run about one-and-a-half miles in lent, the course involves a drop of

3:11:48 > 3:11:542,000 feet. The men's down hill promises to be a race that could

3:11:54 > 3:11:54make Olympic

3:11:54 > 3:12:01promises to be a race that could make Olympic history.

3:12:04 > 3:12:09A good start. Good clean start. It is the most important thing on a

3:12:09 > 3:12:15down hill like this where it is kind of lottery.

3:12:15 > 3:12:21The fastest man ever.Bill Johnson, the all American boy from

3:12:21 > 3:12:27California.The only way to win this is to take a huge amount of risks

3:12:27 > 3:12:39You are watching the greatest skier. He is doing it again.

3:12:39 > 3:12:43Tracing the course in his mine. He has to remember every bend, every

3:12:43 > 3:12:47turn. They feel they are reaping the upper

3:12:47 > 3:12:52limits of speed. Whoa controls it best, the Olympic gold medal will be

3:12:52 > 3:13:05his.Gold medal for Jean Claude Killy. He is going to win the gold.

3:13:05 > 3:13:10He skis into gold. I knew I had to ski all out and to

3:13:10 > 3:13:15try everything I knew to win, and I couldn't keep anything under

3:13:15 > 3:13:19control, I mean I had truly skied the fastest this mountain could be

3:13:19 > 3:13:26skied. Well I am really looking forward to

3:13:26 > 3:13:30that tomorrow, fingers crossed the Pyeongchang weather plays ball but

3:13:30 > 3:13:34there has been lots to love on this Valentine's Day in Pyeongchang and

3:13:34 > 3:13:37there is lots more still to come. We are almost at the end of our time

3:13:37 > 3:13:42but you can head over to BBC One now, and join Clare Balding for the

3:13:42 > 3:13:47rest of the action through the day. We will get back to the GB men's

3:13:47 > 3:13:51curling team as hay continue their quest for gold. They take on the

3:13:51 > 3:13:58kings of curling, Canada. And that will be live at 11 o'clock so turn

3:13:58 > 3:14:02over now, from me, goodbye.
