0:01:13 > 0:01:17It is all set to be another awesome day at this 2018 winter Ellen. Good

0:01:17 > 0:01:21morning from me from Pyeongchang, where the sun is shining, blue

0:01:21 > 0:01:28skies. The temperatures creeping up towards zero but most importantly,

0:01:28 > 0:01:36no wind and no delays at the Alpine Stadium. We will be bringing you the

0:01:36 > 0:01:40women's slalom but we are starting with the curling because Great

0:01:40 > 0:01:45Britain's men are back on the ice and they won the first match in a

0:01:45 > 0:01:48thrilling extra end against Switzerland yesterday before falling

0:01:48 > 0:01:55short against Canada last night, the yesterday afternoon for you. In

0:01:55 > 0:01:59their third match against Japan they have built up a slender lead. Let's

0:01:59 > 0:02:03head straight there and join the action live with Logan Gray and

0:02:03 > 0:02:10Jackie Lockhart.

0:02:13 > 0:02:23Welcome back. Nice to see Great Britain with a strong start after

0:02:23 > 0:02:28losing last night to Canada? They have come out all guns blazing and

0:02:28 > 0:02:35Thomas Muirhead has played some amazing shots. We could have been

0:02:35 > 0:02:444-1 ahead. On paper, they are looking really strong at the moment.

0:02:44 > 0:02:50I have seen some fantastic shots from Thomas Muirhead earlier in the

0:02:50 > 0:02:54game here.Hasn't been at his best in the first couple of games, but

0:02:54 > 0:03:02seems like he is settling down and starting to look at ease out there.

0:03:02 > 0:03:08There is a real game changer. We saw a lot of aggressive playing into the

0:03:08 > 0:03:17four foot, and then one or two big throwing stones coming down here. I

0:03:17 > 0:03:28think he was hoping to move more than he did.

0:03:28 > 0:03:33than he did.Kosuke Morozumi, the third player for Japan. Just a

0:03:33 > 0:03:36reminder that GB playing the red stones and Japan throwing the

0:03:36 > 0:03:47yellow. It is Japan with the hammer in the fourth end. Kyle Smith, the

0:03:47 > 0:03:57fourth player and skipper for the GB men's team. Mixed success so far.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02But a tough start to the event for GB, playing against Switzerland and

0:04:02 > 0:04:09Canada. Both very much medal contenders. Canada, hot favourites.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13We lost to them last night. But hopefully we will see them later on

0:04:13 > 0:04:21in the semifinals and we can turn them over that time?Yes, it was

0:04:21 > 0:04:28always going to be a tough game. It was a game of two halves as we would

0:04:28 > 0:04:32say in football. The boys weren't in it in the first half, but they tried

0:04:32 > 0:04:38their best to get back in it in the second half. Different seamount here

0:04:38 > 0:04:45today, I see.Have they carried that confidence over from yesterday?I

0:04:45 > 0:04:49hope so, we have psychologists and support staff with them and I am

0:04:49 > 0:04:54sure they would have gone home and looked up the game they play. They

0:04:54 > 0:04:57have got to take the positives, especially when the positives where

0:04:57 > 0:05:03in the latter half of the game. They have come out today, and they have

0:05:03 > 0:05:09started strong. If they can keep that lead, it forces the Japanese

0:05:09 > 0:05:15team to take a two, it and it is looking very positive for them at

0:05:15 > 0:05:21the moment. But it is a long game, can last up to three hours, ten ends

0:05:21 > 0:05:28and we are only on the fourth end, so they really have to concentrate.

0:05:28 > 0:05:34Unfortunately, if you have just joined us in the fourth end, but

0:05:34 > 0:05:38Stone looked like it could have been blanked. Both teams have

0:05:38 > 0:05:42demonstrated they are willing to take a bit of risk and get some

0:05:42 > 0:05:46stones in play. Those early exchanges have gone in favour of

0:05:46 > 0:05:53Team GB. We would love to see them put three on the board in the third

0:05:53 > 0:06:00end. It was a straightforward final stone for Kyle Smith. Just dropped

0:06:00 > 0:06:05it a little bit inside and the sweepers couldn't save that one. He

0:06:05 > 0:06:13gets the green light on the top of the handle this time. He had a bit

0:06:13 > 0:06:23of a wild terms

0:06:23 > 0:06:25of a wild terms earlier, the lights started flashing on top of the

0:06:25 > 0:06:30stone. But no such issues on this occasion. The fourth end is blanked

0:06:30 > 0:06:41by Japan and there will be no change to the scoreline.

0:06:41 > 0:06:52to the scoreline. With their hit and roll-out by Yusuke Morozumi, Japan

0:06:52 > 0:06:58remain with the advantage going into the fifth end. These teams, they

0:06:58 > 0:07:03want to score two or more when they have the hammer. They want to have

0:07:03 > 0:07:09multiple scores when they have got the hammer. Object of the game is to

0:07:09 > 0:07:16take a two and forced one, if you can. They want the two to come right

0:07:16 > 0:07:24back in the game so they can level it up at 3-3.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28it up at 3-3.Four games out there and almost every session at the

0:07:28 > 0:07:36round-robin, which continues on to Wednesday next week. The third game

0:07:36 > 0:07:40of nine in the round robin for many of these teams. Once they have all

0:07:40 > 0:07:47played each other once, based on the standings, the wins and last record,

0:07:47 > 0:07:50four teams will qualify for the semifinals to fight it out for the

0:07:50 > 0:07:59medals. It will be a straight semifinal format, where the first

0:07:59 > 0:08:02rank team will play against the fourth ranked team and the second

0:08:02 > 0:08:14will play the third. This is Kosuke Morozumi, plays the lead stone for

0:08:14 > 0:08:19Japan. His Scottish nickname is Kenny, named after a well-known

0:08:19 > 0:08:26Scottish curler.Not because he looks like him, I guess?I am not

0:08:26 > 0:08:33sure what the back story is, but he is a little bundle of fun, he is a

0:08:33 > 0:08:43really good fun guy, always smiling. Cammy Smith has made a strong start

0:08:43 > 0:08:50this morning. He really struggled last night to get stones in the

0:08:50 > 0:08:56right spots and he was quite candid about in the post interview with

0:08:56 > 0:09:04Steve Cram. He wasn't blaming anything else other than himself.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10anything else other than himself. It is good to take responsibility for

0:09:10 > 0:09:17your own performance.Very much so. Even if you have a stone that is

0:09:17 > 0:09:22playing a little bit different than the rest, you should be experienced

0:09:22 > 0:09:27enough to manage and handled these stones. So fair play to them. We saw

0:09:27 > 0:09:36Japan cutting a corner -- putting a corner guard on just outside the

0:09:36 > 0:09:41house. They will use the corner guard if they can get one of their

0:09:41 > 0:09:45own stones in behind. They will be setting up a really good and for the

0:09:45 > 0:09:51possibility of a two.

0:09:51 > 0:09:59possibility of a two.Clicks the guard. Japan, trying to get

0:09:59 > 0:10:02something going, trying to be offensive and build up some stones

0:10:02 > 0:10:05in play, but they are not getting their stones in the right position

0:10:05 > 0:10:14and they are making life quite simple for Team GB, so far.

0:10:23 > 0:10:28Would be nice to get a little roll across into the centre to protect

0:10:28 > 0:10:37the forefoot. That is a good shot from Kyle Waddell.

0:10:43 > 0:10:49The only one without a brother on the team.Yes, I think his brother

0:10:49 > 0:10:54has come to watch him. No, his mum and dad are coming out, so family

0:10:54 > 0:11:06here to support him. He is probably quite glad about that. Do brothers

0:11:06 > 0:11:13not fight?Kyle Smith and Cammy Smith, I saw a bit of an interview

0:11:13 > 0:11:18with them both and they are very complimentary about one another. I'm

0:11:18 > 0:11:23not sure I would say the same sorts of things about my brother, but good

0:11:23 > 0:11:26for them, they get on well and they have played together for a long

0:11:26 > 0:11:36time. But back in the game, Kyle Waddell looks like he is trying to

0:11:36 > 0:11:44mop things up here a little bit.He wants to remove both of these

0:11:44 > 0:11:48yellows if he can just catch the inside of it and roll across the

0:11:48 > 0:11:59house as well with his own shooter. Good job in spilling both of these

0:11:59 > 0:12:05yellows. If they were being perfectionists, they would have

0:12:05 > 0:12:10liked to have rolled into the top of the house. They have left that one

0:12:10 > 0:12:15outside the rings and off to the side as well, which is useful for

0:12:15 > 0:12:27Japan. But better leaving one bear than leaving them in the house.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31Interestingly, Japan excusing to go around the centre guard rather than

0:12:31 > 0:12:38the corner. Not really kind of, not a textbook approach for a team with

0:12:38 > 0:12:43the last stone.Certainly as in, they are mixing it up, that is for

0:12:43 > 0:12:54sure. We have watched them for the last four ends and they are very

0:12:54 > 0:13:01good at coming into the four foot. When they go to the wings, they

0:13:01 > 0:13:06might play them tight and they are catching the guard, so this might be

0:13:06 > 0:13:17to their advantage. This will be an interesting test for Thomas

0:13:17 > 0:13:21Muirhead. We have seen him playing well today, looking comfortable out

0:13:21 > 0:13:28there. The first game, they looked very nervous but they managed to get

0:13:28 > 0:13:31the victory in the end. He has made a good start today and this is

0:13:31 > 0:13:37another good one.

0:13:43 > 0:13:51Four, Reggie B stones in play, two of them in the house.Japan still

0:13:51 > 0:13:58continuing to play that very aggressive game. They should be

0:13:58 > 0:14:02trying to go for one of the shots in the house and roll behind one of the

0:14:02 > 0:14:07wingers.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14wingers.Constant communication from the skippers, telling the skip how

0:14:14 > 0:14:20far the stone is going to travel, so they can judge the sweeping

0:14:20 > 0:14:33accordingly. It doesn't finish in shot position, I

0:14:45 > 0:14:50Thomas was always going to ask for the run back, wasn't he?He is

0:14:50 > 0:14:55favourite.

0:14:55 > 0:14:59favourite.This low delivery, perfect. Generates a lot of speed.

0:14:59 > 0:15:17Bang. Super shot from Thomas Muirhead. Almost too good.

0:15:17 > 0:15:22Muirhead. Almost too good. All of the red stones behind the T-line, so

0:15:22 > 0:15:31Japan persisting to get one in and now has something to freeze against.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54Something we see a lot from this Japanese team, they just throw

0:15:54 > 0:15:56caution to the wind, and it makes them an extremely dangerous

0:15:56 > 0:16:06opponent.Yeah, they overslept that there, slightly overcooked it, but

0:16:06 > 0:16:16yeah, they're absolutely throwing everything they've got at this game.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19Well, they should have a good idea of the kind of running line of this

0:16:19 > 0:16:27shot. We saw Thomas Muirhead with his first stone.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32his first stone. He wants to connect with as much of the stone as he can,

0:16:32 > 0:16:38push it through the back. He will move the red which is jammed on but

0:16:38 > 0:16:43as long as he sits in tee-high position with his shoe to, that will

0:16:43 > 0:16:54be a good stonefish -- with his shooter.

0:16:56 > 0:17:01He has played a much better weight and a nice line for the boys to

0:17:01 > 0:17:10control this.

0:17:11 > 0:17:19Good shot here by Kyle. GB lying in four. I think Japan will be getting

0:17:19 > 0:17:25a little bit nervous here?Yeah, there's a lot of GB red stones in

0:17:25 > 0:17:35there. Japan, of course, would wish to be getting a two here, but it's

0:17:35 > 0:17:42not looking like that at the moment. But it just takes one good shot.

0:17:45 > 0:17:51I think it's going to be very interesting to see what Yusuke

0:17:51 > 0:17:54Morozumi has come up with here - he's got a great imagination. He's

0:17:54 > 0:18:00not scared to throw a creative shot, and it looks like they might be

0:18:00 > 0:18:07going for triple takeout here. So, there am I not be four reds in there

0:18:07 > 0:18:15for much longer! -- there may not be.

0:18:22 > 0:18:26Where is his shooter going to go, though, Logan? Yeah, that's going to

0:18:26 > 0:18:31be the key, isn't it? The real trick is to keep your Yellowstone in the

0:18:31 > 0:18:34house. If you don't, then Kyle is just going to sink another one

0:18:34 > 0:18:38around the centre guard and it could hit quite difficult for Japan to

0:18:38 > 0:18:41score. So, a high level of difficulty in this shot here for

0:18:41 > 0:18:50Japan.Well, as we predicted, gets three of them going, but doesn't

0:18:50 > 0:18:55keep their stone in the house. It should be a straightforward draw

0:18:55 > 0:19:04here for GB to really crank up the heat on Japan.

0:19:04 > 0:19:10Yeah, if we get a good stone here from Kyle Smith, he could steal one

0:19:10 > 0:19:15here, or he definitely could force one, and that's the object of the

0:19:15 > 0:19:21game, to force your opponent to only get one. And then when you've got

0:19:21 > 0:19:28the last stone advantage try your utmost to get two or more. Seems to

0:19:28 > 0:19:31be pleased enough that he's removed a lot of granite, even though he is

0:19:31 > 0:19:36an sitting in there himself.I think I would love to be a part of that

0:19:36 > 0:19:40team, they always seem to be having fun, even though they're trailing by

0:19:40 > 0:19:49two here, they still seem very upbeat. Kyle trying to exert a

0:19:49 > 0:19:53little bit more control over this game - it has been all Team GB in

0:19:53 > 0:19:56the first half.

0:20:00 > 0:20:06If it can sit tee-high, it's a good shot, but it looks like this is just

0:20:06 > 0:20:12going to run. Yeah, pretty angry with himself is Emma that's a wasted

0:20:12 > 0:20:25opportunity for a steal there. Just too heavy in the city.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28too heavy in the city.A little bit of annoyance in the face of Kyle

0:20:28 > 0:20:36Smith for that one, he's really let them off the hook.Yeah, if he could

0:20:36 > 0:20:39flip them roundabout he would be wanting to sit in that position.

0:20:39 > 0:20:45There is a bit of back and forth between the two Kyles. Trying to

0:20:45 > 0:20:49work out why that Stone has gone maybe 3ft or 4ft further than they

0:20:49 > 0:20:56want. Kyle Waddell is of the opinion that Kyle Smith's first stone is

0:20:56 > 0:20:59maybe a little bit slower than the last one that he threw. So, they

0:20:59 > 0:21:03will need to try and sort that out at half-time to make sure that

0:21:03 > 0:21:14they're not making the same as judgments.

0:21:15 > 0:21:24Well, it's definitely not short. Is it on to the back red? It is. It's

0:21:24 > 0:21:29going to be a score of one here for Japan in the fifth end, as they go

0:21:29 > 0:21:36into the half-time break. And after five ends here, it's Japan 2-3 Great

0:21:36 > 0:21:38Britain.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47Eyelid very close on the ice at the gang young Curling Centre. While

0:21:47 > 0:21:51they take a break we are going to go to the ice hockey, because yesterday

0:21:51 > 0:21:57the men's competition got under way. For the first time since 1994 it

0:21:57 > 0:22:02doesn't feature players from the NHL. While that means the best

0:22:02 > 0:22:05players in the world might not be here in Pyeongchang, it does mean

0:22:05 > 0:22:10that the competition is wide open. And as Matthew Pinsent reflects, we

0:22:10 > 0:22:15could have another miracle on the ice.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21Ice hockey has been one of the sports that has provided the most

0:22:21 > 0:22:30memorable moments of any at the Winter Olympics.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34Winter Olympics. However, this year is set to provide a different form

0:22:34 > 0:22:42of drama altogether. For the first time since Lily hammer 1994, the

0:22:42 > 0:22:46men's Olympic ice hockey will not feature me from the NHL, ruling out

0:22:46 > 0:22:50the world's biggest talents. And there will be no Dream Team at this

0:22:50 > 0:22:54Olympics. The IOC decided it would no longer cover the cost of

0:22:54 > 0:22:59insurance, travel and accommodation, while ice hockey's governing body

0:22:59 > 0:23:04can't afford to do so.That is politics unfortunately, and it has

0:23:04 > 0:23:12become part of sports, obviously, it's money, and it just came down to

0:23:12 > 0:23:17players Association and not coming to an agreement for its.The NHL is

0:23:17 > 0:23:19a business and to shutdown a business for three weeks is a tough

0:23:19 > 0:23:25thing. If you were an owner of an NHL team to all of a sudden shuck

0:23:25 > 0:23:27down your business and take some of your most valuable commodities and

0:23:27 > 0:23:31send them overseas, you know, it's a little bit dicey. So, we will not

0:23:31 > 0:23:38see the likes of Wayne Gretzky and the other great names. So, what does

0:23:38 > 0:23:42that mean in terms of team selection? Entries like the US,

0:23:42 > 0:23:47Canada and Russia all have to assemble teams from non-NHL players

0:23:47 > 0:23:55from all around the world. Mind you, that didn't work out too badly for

0:23:55 > 0:24:04the American team in Lake Placid in 1980.

0:24:04 > 0:24:101980. This is one of the great American sports stories. It was the

0:24:10 > 0:24:15young, Amat American team against the big, bad Soviet team which we

0:24:15 > 0:24:17all felt, basically they were professionals even though they

0:24:17 > 0:24:23weren't, a team that should not have been beaten but was. The famous line

0:24:23 > 0:24:28that the American commentator used - do you believe in miracles? Yes. And

0:24:28 > 0:24:37it is one that people still use, it has become part of the Lexicon. The

0:24:37 > 0:24:41Americans have arrived in Pyeongchang with just a handful of

0:24:41 > 0:24:46practices under their belt. But they do remain confident they can secure

0:24:46 > 0:24:52a medal.Practices have gone great. All the guys when they got here and

0:24:52 > 0:24:56knew who they would be playing with and what their role in the team

0:24:56 > 0:25:00would be. You do your planning and your preparation leading up to it

0:25:00 > 0:25:03and then you get your four or five practices in and then you drop the

0:25:03 > 0:25:10park and play. One of those players is 39-year-old Brian Jean Todt, who

0:25:10 > 0:25:14played foot Team USA in the 2006 Olympic Games. How fortunate do you

0:25:14 > 0:25:20feel that you have had this chance at the end of your career?Yeah, it

0:25:20 > 0:25:24is a great opportunity for myself and for the others on the team. And

0:25:24 > 0:25:29there can't be many others you will be up against who will be 39?Yeah,

0:25:29 > 0:25:32it is very apparent that I am one of the elder statesman around but I am

0:25:32 > 0:25:36loving that I am having this opportunity and I am able to still

0:25:36 > 0:25:40play and I will continue to play as long as I can.The favourites are

0:25:40 > 0:25:45the Olympic Athletes from Russia. They have been virtually unaffected

0:25:45 > 0:25:48by this election restrictions, due to the strengths of the Continental

0:25:48 > 0:25:53hockey league, which is considered to be the second best in the world.

0:25:53 > 0:25:58We are expecting a high skilled team from Russia. They've got two club

0:25:58 > 0:26:03teams from what I understand, putting together a lot of the

0:26:03 > 0:26:08players, so we will see who they are once they start playing. At what the

0:26:08 > 0:26:11men's competition lacks in star power, it makes up for in

0:26:11 > 0:26:15unpredictability, with perhaps five other countries vying for the gold

0:26:15 > 0:26:22medal.Without the NHL stars, it is pretty wide open think that there is

0:26:22 > 0:26:26a lot of talent around the world, and I think people will be surprised

0:26:26 > 0:26:31at what talent is out there which is not in the NHL.To win, we don't

0:26:31 > 0:26:40need a miracle, we need to be at our best for two weeks.

0:26:40 > 0:26:44best for two weeks. The 1980 hockey gold for the US was one of the most

0:26:44 > 0:26:50pulsating and exhilarating underdog stories in Olympic history. And we

0:26:50 > 0:26:54could all dream of something a little bit similar here on the ice

0:26:54 > 0:27:04in Pyeongchang. Do YOU believe in miracles? Well, there were a couple

0:27:04 > 0:27:08of surprises yesterday, the USA being defeated by sliver key, and

0:27:08 > 0:27:13the Olympic athletes of Russia also being defeated 3-2, by Slovenia.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16Today, later on, we will be joining up with the first matches in group

0:27:16 > 0:27:22seat, and top seeds in that group, Sweden, play Norway. For now, we're

0:27:22 > 0:27:27going to heads hacked to the Gangneung Curling Centre, where the

0:27:27 > 0:27:32match between Great Britain and Japan is finely poised.

0:27:38 > 0:27:44LOGAN GRAY: 3-2 for Team GB over Japan. Cammy Smith's first stone of

0:27:44 > 0:27:48the sixth end. GB will have the hammer here in the sixth end as

0:27:48 > 0:27:53well. Now, Jackie, the boys will be looking to build on what has been a

0:27:53 > 0:27:58very strong first half? JACKIE LOCKHART: Yeah, they're only

0:27:58 > 0:28:02one shot ahead but they have shown great professionalism and they've

0:28:02 > 0:28:09got a huge opportunity to pick up a two-shot score here to increase

0:28:09 > 0:28:15their lead. They have set themselves up pretty well in some of the ends.

0:28:15 > 0:28:19They missed a huge opportunity for a three and only got a two. But I

0:28:19 > 0:28:23think what is good from our point of view is, they're setting themselves

0:28:23 > 0:28:32up well for the ends.Lovely

0:28:32 > 0:28:35up well for the ends.Lovely draw there from Kosuke Morozumi, younger

0:28:35 > 0:28:44brother of Ki, the Japanese skip. -- younger brother of Yusuke Morozumi.

0:28:44 > 0:28:50I think one thing I really wanted to see this afternoon, is what is just

0:28:50 > 0:28:55a one game day for the Team GB men, is strong performances from Cammy

0:28:55 > 0:29:00and Tom. They have struggled a little bit, especially last night,

0:29:00 > 0:29:04so they have turned things around, haven't they?Yeah, they have,

0:29:04 > 0:29:09Thomas is having a really good game today. He's sitting at 95%, which is

0:29:09 > 0:29:17lovely.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20lovely.Cammy just maybe a little bit further than he would have liked

0:29:20 > 0:29:25there. And it bounces off, and may be a chance for Japan to spin both

0:29:25 > 0:29:32of these round.Yeah, we've spoken about this earlier, but it is really

0:29:32 > 0:29:43critical. Stone placement execution for the lead is key. Even two or

0:29:43 > 0:29:51three inches can make a huge difference in this game.

0:29:51 > 0:29:53difference in this game.Given the amount of ice that they're taking

0:29:53 > 0:29:59here I would not say that they're going for a double takeout on the

0:29:59 > 0:30:03Reds. But they will be trying to move that stone just played by

0:30:03 > 0:30:10Cammy.The real strategy of this game, of course, is setting yourself

0:30:10 > 0:30:17up, it's not always a race to the 1ft. It is about preparing the

0:30:17 > 0:30:21stones, setting them in the right place, giving yourself an

0:30:21 > 0:30:26opportunity and when you have one to make use of it. You always know your

0:30:26 > 0:30:35opposition is trying to counteract everything you do, though.

0:30:36 > 0:30:41So here in the sixth end with a 1-shot lead, what is an acceptable

0:30:41 > 0:30:48outcome for the end the Kyle Smith and the boys?Without question they

0:30:48 > 0:30:55will want to score a two. If they don't score a two, we might see a

0:30:55 > 0:30:59lot of stones being removed from play and clearing the house. But

0:30:59 > 0:31:06they are going to try and set up the two. But everything is coming into

0:31:06 > 0:31:18the forefoot once again. No wingers, nothing to come round.

0:31:18 > 0:31:23nothing to come round. Japan, here, quite happy to block up this

0:31:23 > 0:31:29forefoot area down the centre.

0:31:31 > 0:31:34forefoot area down the centre. Guard being put on here. That will be to

0:31:34 > 0:31:42the annoyance of Great Britain.

0:31:51 > 0:31:58It feels like neither team have a stranglehold on this end at the

0:31:58 > 0:32:06moment. Maybe a little bit of cat and mouse, waiting for the other

0:32:06 > 0:32:13team to make their move.Kyle Waddell just being asked to hit the

0:32:13 > 0:32:22yellow. Upon to the yellow in the house.

0:32:22 > 0:32:27house.Pretty disastrous. They made a gamble to try to open things up.

0:32:27 > 0:32:32Just couldn't have hit that one in the house in a worse spot. Little

0:32:32 > 0:32:42bit unlucky for Kyle Waddell. Lovely situation for Japan as they go and

0:32:42 > 0:32:49try to put a guard on to try and protect those two yellow stones.

0:32:57 > 0:33:04Teen Japan just hoping to get this to stop short, just on the centre

0:33:04 > 0:33:12line if possible. This one is going to run a little bit further on than

0:33:12 > 0:33:18he anticipated. They may not get a better chance to move these yellows

0:33:18 > 0:33:24and the button, than this one. Thomas Muirhead has been deadly with

0:33:24 > 0:33:29these so far.

0:33:37 > 0:33:42If they have got the opportunity here to spill everything here,

0:33:42 > 0:33:48almost make a simple end and run it out and go for your two in the mixed

0:33:48 > 0:33:52ends. Of course, he's got to make this shot, but he has been very

0:33:52 > 0:33:58accurate with them so far.

0:33:59 > 0:34:04accurate with them so far.Don't expect this want to be hanging

0:34:04 > 0:34:11around. Watch out for the vapour trail. Thomas Muirhead and in down a

0:34:11 > 0:34:16takeout.

0:34:19 > 0:34:26takeout.Only got two of them out. It was always going to be difficult

0:34:26 > 0:34:31to move that other yellow as well because it was going to jam on the

0:34:31 > 0:34:36back red. If he had a bigger weight, I thought he would have thrown a

0:34:36 > 0:34:39heavier weight at that. I thought it was quite a controlled weight from

0:34:39 > 0:34:45Thomas Muirhead.

0:34:56 > 0:35:06Japan switching to a slightly more defensive approach. They have rolled

0:35:06 > 0:35:13out of the house. That is a real let off the Team GB. This end is going

0:35:13 > 0:35:22to turn on

0:35:22 > 0:35:30to turn on its head after that stone by Shimizu. We need to put some

0:35:30 > 0:35:41space between the two red stones. As an opportunity to hit this and roll.

0:35:49 > 0:35:55They can play a takeout here. Their concern is, two red stones will be

0:35:55 > 0:35:59close together. They could be ambitious with this and tried to

0:35:59 > 0:36:10flick their own red already in the house, over to the side.

0:36:10 > 0:36:21house, over to the side. Nice shot. It is a good shot as well.

0:36:21 > 0:36:33We saw in the fifth end, Morozumi playing a triple takeout. This looks

0:36:33 > 0:36:41a bit easier than that shot? There is a space between these stones.

0:36:41 > 0:36:49Just has to catch the right side of it. There is a high risk opportunity

0:36:49 > 0:36:54here he may jam.

0:37:18 > 0:37:23He has jammed it. He didn't play big waiter that at all. I'm not sure if

0:37:23 > 0:37:29he was trying to hit the stone or right on the face of it so he sat in

0:37:29 > 0:37:35front of it.I thought he was going to try and spread them and accept at

0:37:35 > 0:37:40the end was going to be a blank. This is a super opportunity now for

0:37:40 > 0:37:52Kyle Smith to score the easiest of twos.He wants to play a controlled

0:37:52 > 0:38:03weight. Maybe a little role to the left.

0:38:03 > 0:38:16This, a critical shot. He really has two hit and all I. With the

0:38:21 > 0:38:27he was really hoping that would roll to the 12 foot and the turquoise

0:38:27 > 0:38:33part of the circle.

0:38:38 > 0:38:45They were trying to roll further out to the wing. You want to stay on the

0:38:45 > 0:38:50safe side, as soon as you roll it out the ring it is going hard.If

0:38:50 > 0:38:55you try and be too fancy, it can sometimes work against you. The

0:38:55 > 0:39:05first plan was to make connection. He played a lovely wait, I am not

0:39:05 > 0:39:11sure if they were scared to sweep it early. We are lying two shots and it

0:39:11 > 0:39:15has to be a really good shot from Japan to remove both of these

0:39:15 > 0:39:19stones.

0:39:24 > 0:39:31stones.I think he has got it.He has.

0:39:31 > 0:39:34has.Super shot from Yusuke Morozumi. Great treble takeout and

0:39:34 > 0:39:39the

0:39:40 > 0:39:49the previous end. Definitely not scared of those big shots, is he?

0:39:49 > 0:39:51scared of those big shots, is he?He seems very comfortable with them,

0:39:51 > 0:39:59Logan.That is something the Smith team will want to be aware of and

0:39:59 > 0:40:03try and force him into playing shots that maybe he isn't so comfortable

0:40:03 > 0:40:08with.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15with.Team GB were trying because they knew if they hit it on the nose

0:40:15 > 0:40:24they would be leaving a double. Hopefully this will come out. It has

0:40:24 > 0:40:32jammed. GB would have liked to have seen that rolling out of the house,

0:40:32 > 0:40:42to take the last advantage into the next end, and they have had to

0:40:42 > 0:40:49settle for one. 4-2 going into the seventh end.

0:40:53 > 0:40:58seventh end. Morozumi, still looking very comfortable. Smiling.Japan got

0:40:58 > 0:41:05away with one and still trailing by two, however. You just wonder if GB

0:41:05 > 0:41:12are going to rue some of these missed opportunities to convert

0:41:12 > 0:41:21multiple scores. They did have a chance and it was thwarted by

0:41:21 > 0:41:29Morozumi.

0:41:29 > 0:41:34Morozumi. Decent attendance here this afternoon.

0:41:35 > 0:41:38this afternoon. Korea not playing in this session so we did expect it to

0:41:38 > 0:41:43be a little bit quieter. But still lots of great action out here in

0:41:43 > 0:41:48session three.

0:41:53 > 0:41:59With that score in the sixth end, Great Britain relinquish the hammer

0:41:59 > 0:42:09in the Le stone advantage and begin the seventh leading by two. -- the

0:42:09 > 0:42:15last stone advantage.

0:42:16 > 0:42:24Cammy Smith, draw weight in his pocket today. Just sitting on the

0:42:24 > 0:42:31one foot. As the lead, you don't want your shots to be at the back of

0:42:31 > 0:42:36the house.

0:42:43 > 0:42:52We'll GB, be looking to continue to score ordure shut up shop?Team GB

0:42:52 > 0:43:01will be looking to force the one. Take the hammer into the eighth end

0:43:01 > 0:43:07and gained that little bit of a lead. They have to be careful. You

0:43:07 > 0:43:12don't want to be over aggressive and get yourself into difficulty here.

0:43:12 > 0:43:20Keep it simple. Games are not one in the middle of a game, generally it

0:43:20 > 0:43:32comes down to the last two or three ends, eight, nine, ten.

0:43:32 > 0:43:35ends, eight, nine, ten. They have not got that perfectly in line with

0:43:35 > 0:43:40the stone on the bottom. But it cannot be removed at this point by

0:43:40 > 0:43:46Japan.

0:43:52 > 0:43:57Morozumi, just asking his lead to come around the corner yellow that

0:43:57 > 0:44:03he placed with his first stone.

0:44:06 > 0:44:17he placed with his first stone. This looks to be a lovely shot.

0:44:20 > 0:44:28Four stones have been played. Kyle Waddell the GB come he can remove

0:44:28 > 0:44:37these stones on the free guard zone. Lovely round the guards, but Kyle

0:44:37 > 0:44:42Waddell will try to tidy things up a little bit here the Great Britain.

0:44:42 > 0:44:50Just the one.

0:44:54 > 0:45:02This is a very strong Japanese team. They had their best result ever for

0:45:02 > 0:45:05Japan in the World Championship in 2016, making it into the play-offs

0:45:05 > 0:45:13and making it into fourth. They did when on the world curling tour this

0:45:13 > 0:45:26year in Japan. And of course, coming in here on good form after a when

0:45:26 > 0:45:31over the favourites, Norway. They have only played one game so far in

0:45:31 > 0:45:33comparison to GB's two.

0:45:39 > 0:45:48This is looking a little bit heavy, and it's not got enough curl on it.

0:45:48 > 0:45:57Kyle Smith will be able to call the hit and roll underneath.

0:46:21 > 0:46:28Great effort. Cammy Smith trying to hold that one on the inside with his

0:46:28 > 0:46:33sweeping, trying to keep it straight. But it just rolls a stone

0:46:33 > 0:46:37too far and out the other side of the guard, not protected. And now,

0:46:37 > 0:46:49there will be a chance for Japan play a double takeout here.

0:47:06 > 0:47:12JACKIE LOCKHART: I think he was hoping to catch the edge of the

0:47:12 > 0:47:18stone there, but...Grey I think they miss judged that one a little

0:47:18 > 0:47:22bit. I think they were just trying to get it in behind the guard and

0:47:22 > 0:47:33it's just died at the end. LOGAN GRAY: Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi

0:47:33 > 0:47:38clutching at that shoulder a little bit, it is heavily taped up and I

0:47:38 > 0:47:43just saw him grasping for it. It is going to be a long wait for him if

0:47:43 > 0:47:47he's got bad shoulders at this stage.Yeah, because they're only

0:47:47 > 0:48:00endgame two, Japan. -- they're only in Game Two.

0:48:02 > 0:48:05in Game Two. After a strong six end, that's a little error to leak crept

0:48:05 > 0:48:14in. Japan of course have got the hammer here so they could hit this

0:48:14 > 0:48:19stone out and all Mac lying three here. Well separated throughout the

0:48:19 > 0:48:25house, which makes it difficult for Team GB to remove them all. There is

0:48:25 > 0:48:30still a red stone out the front that could be used. And we saw Japan,

0:48:30 > 0:48:37they were very, very aggressive early on in the end, they ignored

0:48:37 > 0:48:44all of Team GB's stones and pulled behind a guard of their own, very

0:48:44 > 0:48:48offensive, but it worked in their favour.Nice shot there, and Japan

0:48:48 > 0:48:56lying three. And as far as the outcome of the end is concerned for

0:48:56 > 0:49:00Team GB, I think they just want to make sure that they won't lose more

0:49:00 > 0:49:06than two. So they will need to make some sort of a multiple takeout

0:49:06 > 0:49:10here.Yeah, if you can get this one on the nose, usually be able to

0:49:10 > 0:49:16remove the back one as well. That would make up for Thomas's first

0:49:16 > 0:49:19shot that didn't quite come off for him. This is looking a little

0:49:19 > 0:49:24high...

0:49:25 > 0:49:30high...Just a bit of a mental lapse here in the seventh end from Thomas

0:49:30 > 0:49:37Muirhead, he's been so good for the first six end is.

0:49:45 > 0:49:50Go near that's an adventurous call that he's just made there, talking

0:49:50 > 0:49:53about moving the guard and rolling into the ring is! That would be a

0:49:53 > 0:50:00very tricky shot. What have they nominated here? They have nominated

0:50:00 > 0:50:16to go out to the wing. They're not going to come into the centre.

0:50:16 > 0:50:18going to come into the centre. I think anywhere across where he has

0:50:18 > 0:50:21indicated to go will still give Great Britain the opportunity of

0:50:21 > 0:50:28removing two of them. But if he puts it well out on the wing, probably

0:50:28 > 0:50:34Great Britain shooter will of the house and won't stay in.Kyle is

0:50:34 > 0:50:39going to have a little bash at this. When it passes the tee line, then

0:50:39 > 0:50:46you can sweep your opposition stone to get it further away from the

0:50:46 > 0:50:57bottom, if you so wish. It does look like there is a chance for a double.

0:51:13 > 0:51:19You can make that easy double but...

0:51:19 > 0:51:24If I roll out, he splits and we can make it anyway on the next...Well,

0:51:24 > 0:51:33you can make it a couple of ways... LOGAN GRAY: A big call here from

0:51:33 > 0:51:35Kyle Smith, he's going to try and play the long double across the

0:51:35 > 0:51:40house here from the right to the left, and try and get two yellow

0:51:40 > 0:51:45stones out of the house that way. There is a far easier double.

0:51:45 > 0:51:49JACKIE LOCKHART: Yeah, and I think in this instance they have to play

0:51:49 > 0:51:54the scoreboard. Even if they lose a two here, they're still in the game,

0:51:54 > 0:51:59they go down to the eight, they've got the hammer...Yeah, this does

0:51:59 > 0:52:05bring a potential score of three into the equation. That being said,

0:52:05 > 0:52:08even if they don't make this one maybe they will have a double with

0:52:08 > 0:52:18the next one, so... Have to get this one on the nose, Kyle...

0:52:19 > 0:52:21one on the nose, Kyle... -- don't want to hit this one on the nose,

0:52:21 > 0:52:28Kyle.And that's just what he's done as well. But as you said, if Japan

0:52:28 > 0:52:32replace that stone with theirs, I think Kyle will then go for the

0:52:32 > 0:52:37double on the other side, which is in our opinion far easier.

0:53:09 > 0:53:13Maybe if Japan make a nose hit there and if Kyle is feeling adventurous,

0:53:13 > 0:53:20he might be able to make a triple off it!That in my opinion might be

0:53:20 > 0:53:27a step too far?!

0:53:35 > 0:53:39So, Yusuke Morozumi just looking for a simple takeout here and a hit and

0:53:39 > 0:53:45lie. Actually a possibility, if he goes too much to the centre, he's

0:53:45 > 0:53:53got a few options here, actually. Yeah, they're quite happy to put

0:53:53 > 0:54:00this on the nose. So, as you mentioned, Logan... Oh, dear!

0:54:00 > 0:54:05Goodness!

0:54:05 > 0:54:10Goodness!I don't think this is going to be anything too...! Just

0:54:10 > 0:54:13when he was setting off to go down the other end of the ice, he just

0:54:13 > 0:54:20flicked...

0:54:20 > 0:54:22flicked... I don't think these Japanese boys are going to cause

0:54:22 > 0:54:31anybody too much trouble, a couple of the nicest guys on the circuit.

0:54:31 > 0:54:36So, as Logan said, when I see Kyle play the double, and the two stones

0:54:36 > 0:54:44that are quite close together...I think it might have been a little

0:54:44 > 0:54:48bit further back, I think it looks easier than it was initially.Yeah,

0:54:48 > 0:54:52just kicked it with his foot a little bit forward, so still has to

0:54:52 > 0:54:58make it.An important shot here for Kyle Smith. Japan still to play here

0:54:58 > 0:55:04in the seventh end...

0:55:04 > 0:55:10in the seventh end... The brushing is usually a good sign... Great shot

0:55:10 > 0:55:18thereby Kyle Smith, and that's going to keep Japan to only scoring two.

0:55:18 > 0:55:22And although GB will still have an advantage in having the last stone

0:55:22 > 0:55:29coming into the eighth end, that advantage is just a little bit

0:55:29 > 0:55:32slimmer than it was at the start of that end.Yeah, they haven't been

0:55:32 > 0:55:37able to capitalise on that 3-1 lead they had.

0:55:43 > 0:55:49There just been an odd slack shot here or there and it can make such a

0:55:49 > 0:56:01difference in the end. But if this is made, it will be 4- for.

0:56:01 > 0:56:07-- it will be 4-4.So, this one should be a formality for Yusuke

0:56:07 > 0:56:16Morozumi, the final stone of the end, pretty much anywhere for two.

0:56:16 > 0:56:19And at this level you don't expect players of this calibre to miss

0:56:19 > 0:56:29shots like this. And he certainly does not. It is a score of two here

0:56:29 > 0:56:39in the seventh end. And it is a tide game, too close to call, with just

0:56:39 > 0:56:45three ends to come.

0:57:01 > 0:57:05Tied game after seven, and will swear out there in this session,

0:57:05 > 0:57:12Italy leading USA by ninesix. Kicking on from a good start, the

0:57:12 > 0:57:16Italians, defeating Switzerland last night and maybe another upset on the

0:57:16 > 0:57:21cards for one of the teams that came through the Olympic qualification

0:57:21 > 0:57:27event, the other one being Denmark. All the others qualifying by right,

0:57:27 > 0:57:35or being the host nation. Norway and Canada... Norway making a slow

0:57:35 > 0:57:38start, losing their first game yesterday, but leading the hot

0:57:38 > 0:57:47favourites Canada by 4-3 after a big score of two in the sixth.

0:57:47 > 0:57:54score of two in the sixth. And then Switzerland, leading up

0:57:55 > 0:57:57Switzerland, leading up a moment, a must-win match really for them after

0:57:57 > 0:58:07losing their two games yesterday. With a measure about to take face in

0:58:07 > 0:58:16the seventh end over there. Tied game here, GB and Japan. And I think

0:58:16 > 0:58:23we can expect some really offensive play here from Japanese, Jackie?

0:58:23 > 0:58:26Yeah, they've been quite happy during a lot of this game to be very

0:58:26 > 0:58:32aggressive. Lots of stones in play, not at all bothered by the

0:58:32 > 0:58:43opposition's stones.

0:58:48 > 0:58:56So, the corner guard does go up for the GB team.

0:59:08 > 0:59:14So, on a scale of one to ten, Jackie, how offensive do of the GB

0:59:14 > 0:59:20are going to go here? Obviously, they would like to score two here on

0:59:20 > 0:59:28the eighth end but...Yeah, so they have put the corner on. The trouble

0:59:28 > 0:59:32is, the corner is really close to the house so I don't think, unless

0:59:32 > 0:59:36they come around the outside breach they haven't done much of during

0:59:36 > 0:59:39this game, it's going to be quite difficult for them to get into that

0:59:39 > 0:59:45corner. I think what they also must have is, if the game is not going

0:59:45 > 0:59:50with them, to have a get out of jail free card and say, OK, this is not

0:59:50 > 0:59:58working for us, we're just going to bailout.

1:00:09 > 1:00:15Touches the high guard. Can they just wriggle into the side of the

1:00:15 > 1:00:19house? Doesn't look like it is going to travel far enough... But it does

1:00:19 > 1:00:25move the guard over into kind of useful position for GB.Yeah, and

1:00:25 > 1:00:30still sitting in the free guard zone area, although Japan could be

1:00:30 > 1:00:36hitting them out. I'm surprised they're not. They're quite happy to

1:00:36 > 1:00:38block up the centre.

1:00:46 > 1:00:52This is an indication of them changing their mentality, their

1:00:52 > 1:01:00stance. They have been chasing the game since the score of two by GB,

1:01:00 > 1:01:08but they are now on equal terms. They seem to be going gung ho, as if

1:01:08 > 1:01:12to say, I am going to steal this now. Any other opposition, they

1:01:12 > 1:01:19would have cleared the corner guards. They are the one to them if

1:01:19 > 1:01:25Great Britain get behind one of them. Because they have put on the

1:01:25 > 1:01:30centre, Great Britain having to be forced to remove them, which they

1:01:30 > 1:01:34have done. But they have left the red shooter out there beside the

1:01:34 > 1:01:40centre line.

1:01:40 > 1:01:43centre line. We have seen this strategy all the way through from

1:01:43 > 1:01:52Japan. They are being very aggressive in their play.

1:02:18 > 1:02:24We see a draw down here which is a clockwise rotation of the stone.

1:02:24 > 1:02:28They will really work this if they have to get back the red guard.

1:02:28 > 1:02:38Which they have done. It is struggling for weight at the moment.

1:02:38 > 1:02:45Kyle Smith, happy to run the red right back into the yellow and

1:02:45 > 1:02:55buckshot has been left to the technicality of Kyle Waddell.Lovely

1:02:55 > 1:03:02shot.Very well played. They have had a few of them and they are not

1:03:02 > 1:03:09easy to do. They hit the first one in a really good spots, they are

1:03:09 > 1:03:18jamming them in be hand -- behind. That can take the wind out of your

1:03:18 > 1:03:22opponent's sales.

1:03:37 > 1:03:49Here is this kind of take out here. He really cannot see very much of

1:03:49 > 1:04:02the red stone at all. But he has played this very well.It is a good

1:04:06 > 1:04:12shot by Tetsuro Shimizu. I like the way he gradually works his way down

1:04:12 > 1:04:18and then throws it.He has got a really strange elbow delivery on his

1:04:18 > 1:04:24stone, the way he comes out. It is almost like he is taking a long time

1:04:24 > 1:04:30to get into his sliding position before he lets the stone go.Very

1:04:30 > 1:04:38contrast in style to that of Thomas Muirhead. Almost like a human arrow.

1:04:38 > 1:04:50We have got one of our own up don't worry, Steve?

1:04:50 > 1:04:53worry, Steve? The Jar arrow. This is looking hot. Just needed to slow

1:04:53 > 1:04:58down.

1:04:58 > 1:05:03down.Where did that come from? It needed to be high and stop in the

1:05:03 > 1:05:11top half of the rings.Come on, Thomas.He started so well.Feels

1:05:11 > 1:05:16like he has left the building a little bit, in the last couple of

1:05:16 > 1:05:21ends. Hopefully, he will be back for his next stone. Now a chance for

1:05:21 > 1:05:35Japan to come around and gradually getting lower. Sets are. Slinking.

1:05:44 > 1:05:49Powerful sweeping by these guys, they really want to take it as far

1:05:49 > 1:06:01as they can. Well played. They really are putting the pressure on.

1:06:01 > 1:06:08Opportunity for Thomas Muirhead to make up for his first disappointing

1:06:08 > 1:06:13throw. One of the shots he does like playing is running back the red onto

1:06:13 > 1:06:23the yellow.I saw Kyle Waddell play a beauty down this line. He rolls

1:06:23 > 1:06:30the shooter away. Maybe trying to catch the wide one but it goes

1:06:30 > 1:06:39between the two yellows in the house.

1:06:39 > 1:06:45house. Feels like Japan in the ascendancy at the moment. They kind

1:06:45 > 1:06:49of remain really positive throughout. It is paying off for

1:06:49 > 1:06:53them.

1:06:54 > 1:06:58them.Their whole demeanour hasn't changed. They have remained calm

1:06:58 > 1:07:02throughout the whole game, even when they were down, they still played

1:07:02 > 1:07:05very aggressive shots to get themselves back into the game. When

1:07:05 > 1:07:11they didn't come off, we haven't seen the momentum of them dipping,

1:07:11 > 1:07:15they just pick themselves up, dusted themselves off and continued with

1:07:15 > 1:07:27the main shots making strategy they started with.Just a guard here for.

1:07:27 > 1:07:32-- Yusuke Morozumi.

1:07:33 > 1:07:37-- Yusuke Morozumi. The line they are looking for is just to come

1:07:37 > 1:07:44across the centre line here. Maybe travelled a little bit further down

1:07:44 > 1:07:48band they would have liked. They could have afforded to have been a

1:07:48 > 1:07:54couple of feet higher than that, Logan. This being closer to the

1:07:54 > 1:08:03house makes it easier for a back. Morozumi one the matchup in terms of

1:08:03 > 1:08:10accuracy. 6% up on Kyle Smith.

1:08:16 > 1:08:21They are talking about a good stone and a bad stone. You wouldn't

1:08:21 > 1:08:27normally leave a bad stone for your skip? No, you would want maybe your

1:08:27 > 1:08:30second player, somebody who has thrown a heavier weight, to take

1:08:30 > 1:08:36that stone. Never a good idea to leave it for your skip. The further

1:08:36 > 1:08:40you go into the end, the more crucial the shots become to the

1:08:40 > 1:08:46final outcome. I don't know if that was good or bad, but it was a good

1:08:46 > 1:08:52result. Nicely done by Kyle Smith. Opens at the centre of played

1:08:52 > 1:08:55beautifully. That will give them a great chance to score here in this

1:08:55 > 1:09:05eighth end.

1:09:05 > 1:09:10They are almost being a little bit greedy, hoping they could wiggle

1:09:10 > 1:09:15that stone in off one of the wide one. But I think they will be happy

1:09:15 > 1:09:21to get those ones off the centre line.

1:09:23 > 1:09:28line.Morozumi, wondering where he will put his second stone. To be

1:09:28 > 1:09:35honest, as long as he gets it in the house and forces Scotland to take

1:09:35 > 1:09:46their one, Great Britain, not Scotland. My apologies. Team GB.

1:09:46 > 1:09:51Scotland. My apologies. Team GB. I think just the corner of the

1:09:51 > 1:09:58right-hand side of, actually it is the left-hand side if you are

1:09:58 > 1:10:04looking at it on the screen, just on the top of the tea.

1:10:12 > 1:10:24Force Kyle Smith two player draw with his last.

1:10:25 > 1:10:31Morozumi's final stone of the eighth end. Team GB with the final stone of

1:10:31 > 1:10:37the end, after this one.

1:10:41 > 1:10:47the end, after this one. Looking to block the path in.Stops them

1:10:47 > 1:10:51hitting as well, because he cannot hit that because the other yellow on

1:10:51 > 1:11:01the other side would still be a counter. Could have potentially been

1:11:01 > 1:11:05right on the centre line, made it a little bit harder. But he has left

1:11:05 > 1:11:15away in. Kyle Smith, just has to be fully in the eight foot, white part

1:11:15 > 1:11:23of the circle.

1:11:45 > 1:12:01Some brotherly love. A score of one on the board, all the same.

1:12:01 > 1:12:04on the board, all the same. GB will restore a 1-shot lead with just two

1:12:04 > 1:12:13ends to come of regulation time. Ten ends to be played and when we

1:12:13 > 1:12:16restart the ninth end, it will be Japan's turn two have the last

1:12:16 > 1:12:21stone.

1:12:28 > 1:12:38All four games, still out there. Some very tight games.

1:12:38 > 1:12:41Some very tight games. Three shot separation between the teams,

1:12:41 > 1:12:49Switzerland, 74 up on Denmark.

1:12:53 > 1:13:03Well look after, this final draw of the eighth end. Looked a little bit

1:13:03 > 1:13:07sketchy for a while for Team GB, but managed to find their way out. Get

1:13:07 > 1:13:20one on the board to go 5-4 up. Just two ends to come.

1:13:21 > 1:13:23two ends to come.Wouldn't it be great if we could try and force a

1:13:23 > 1:13:32one from Japan. Giving us the hammer in the last stone advantage going

1:13:32 > 1:13:36down the last end. Still, a lot of stones to come before this end has

1:13:36 > 1:13:46finished.This is one of the most interesting tactical is now, coming

1:13:46 > 1:13:50down this ninth end and how offensive the teams want to be to

1:13:50 > 1:13:56give themselves the best chance to win in the tenth end. What

1:13:56 > 1:14:04scorelines here are GB looking to have here in the tenth end? They

1:14:04 > 1:14:14will be quite happy as long as they have got the hammer. Are they going

1:14:14 > 1:14:19to go gung ho and try and steal here? I doubt it. If you get into

1:14:19 > 1:14:23difficulty, it would be more likely Japan would score a two here. Even

1:14:23 > 1:14:29if they do score a two, you shouldn't be afraid to go one down

1:14:29 > 1:14:38with the hammer. They have a few variances of what might happen here.

1:14:38 > 1:14:45In terms of risk, how much risk do you expect the GB team to take to

1:14:45 > 1:14:52make that happen?Do I think the boys are risk takers? No, I don't

1:14:52 > 1:14:56think. I don't think they will go as aggressive as we have seen Japan

1:14:56 > 1:15:03going in some of the other games. If they have the opportunity of

1:15:03 > 1:15:08stealing here, and I think they might try for it, but you have to be

1:15:08 > 1:15:17careful everybody is following the same game plan.

1:15:42 > 1:15:52So, a train of stones up the centre line, almost equally spaced as well.

1:15:52 > 1:16:01So, both teams, plenty of time on the board.

1:16:01 > 1:16:04the board. Thinking time, works out roughly at about three and a half

1:16:04 > 1:16:13minutes an end.It does.

1:16:15 > 1:16:23minutes an end.It does. 38 minutes for the teams in total for the tend

1:16:23 > 1:16:27only, for them to complete their compliments of stones and if they

1:16:27 > 1:16:37can't play all their stones in that time they would lose the game. Nice

1:16:37 > 1:16:41freeze there at the back in a useful position, and that is kind of what

1:16:41 > 1:16:47GB are trying to do, to world up lots of stones and force Japan and

1:16:47 > 1:16:52to score one, ideally.

1:16:53 > 1:16:56to score one, ideally. Well, Japan are going to try and make sure that

1:16:56 > 1:17:03they open things up here.

1:17:03 > 1:17:06they open things up here. Losing one of their own yellows in the house in

1:17:06 > 1:17:10a garden position, very similar to how it was. They have jammed them

1:17:10 > 1:17:15both up here, they would like to spill at least one more of those

1:17:15 > 1:17:24guards. Quite evident that Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi did not quite get that

1:17:24 > 1:17:32want to work out how he would have wanted.

1:17:32 > 1:17:35wanted.So, Kyle Waddell with an opportunity here to come down and

1:17:35 > 1:17:42sit one in the 4ft.

1:17:42 > 1:17:44sit one in the 4ft. They certainly all found the centre line coming

1:17:44 > 1:17:49down the other side of the house - let's see who can find the centre

1:17:49 > 1:17:56line coming down this site...

1:17:56 > 1:18:04line coming down this site... -- this side...

1:18:09 > 1:18:15I love it, he's just like, I touched it with my foot, and gives it a

1:18:15 > 1:18:20whack! One of the nice things about this sport is that you won't need to

1:18:20 > 1:18:24bring out an official to sort out every slight violations, as the

1:18:24 > 1:18:28teams work it out between themselves.Yeah, had hit a running

1:18:28 > 1:18:32Stone, but if they've just accidentally hit a stone which is

1:18:32 > 1:18:36stationary in the house, then they just let the opposition know and

1:18:36 > 1:18:39replace it back to where they thought it should be.It's all very

1:18:39 > 1:18:47gentlemanly!That's a great shot there!That was a bit of an end

1:18:47 > 1:18:57changer.

1:19:05 > 1:19:13Just slipped it, but still in a good position for GB back there, that

1:19:13 > 1:19:29Romeo Stone frozen. So it will be a guard here, from Thomas Muirhead.

1:19:46 > 1:19:51Good guard by Thomas Muirhead, gets nice and tight to the house.Yeah,

1:19:51 > 1:19:55they did not want to come into the house, either. They're quite happy

1:19:55 > 1:20:01to sit outside of the house, to bring it in. Makes it an easier

1:20:01 > 1:20:09opportunity for Japan to make a double.

1:20:14 > 1:20:20Japan trying something a bit creative here. Trying to chip that

1:20:20 > 1:20:32Redstone and roll into the house. Oh, almost.

1:20:35 > 1:20:41This is tense stuff, it is a one shot game here, even in the ninth

1:20:41 > 1:20:55end. Still very much anyone's game. It kind of feels like the

1:20:55 > 1:21:00communication levels have dropped a little bit from the Team GB boys, I

1:21:00 > 1:21:10would like to hear a bit more... Yeah, a little bit more chat. They

1:21:10 > 1:21:17are getting very tense here on the ninth end.

1:21:19 > 1:21:24ninth end. It is an important game, this, for GB, they finished 1-1

1:21:24 > 1:21:29yesterday's, which was a good day at the office given who they were up

1:21:29 > 1:21:32against, but to turn that into a really positive day, they need to

1:21:32 > 1:21:36follow up and win here today, in one of the games that they will need to

1:21:36 > 1:21:41be winning if they want to be making the medals. Yeah, I agreed. Every

1:21:41 > 1:21:45game is God out here but you would like to think they will be able to

1:21:45 > 1:21:51take Japan. -- every game is difficult out here. And Kyle Smith

1:21:51 > 1:21:56has

1:21:56 > 1:21:59has never lost to Japan, either, and he still needs to maintain that

1:21:59 > 1:22:12record. Super shot by Tetsuro Shimizu. He shimmied past that guard

1:22:12 > 1:22:17quite nicely as well

1:22:17 > 1:22:23Shimizu. He shimmied past that guard quite nicely as well!

1:22:29 > 1:22:34All of the players out there head off to the gym, the sport has really

1:22:34 > 1:22:41changed in the last 10-15 years, lots of weightlifting, interval

1:22:41 > 1:22:46training, on ice training, absolutely everything they have to

1:22:46 > 1:22:54do is done in order for them to try and reach their Olympic dream.

1:23:07 > 1:23:20Train to freeze that yellow. Just a little shy. But good to get it

1:23:20 > 1:23:24directly in line with that back Yellowstone - that stops Japan

1:23:24 > 1:23:31really having a chance tonight two. Change in approach here, it is a

1:23:31 > 1:23:37very similar tactical position to the previous stone, and with the red

1:23:37 > 1:23:40at the back of the 4ft, so trying for a freeze this time. Maybe

1:23:40 > 1:23:45they've decided that they're not going to get the chance to blank

1:23:45 > 1:23:52here, so they may as well try and score two.

1:23:55 > 1:23:59score two. The last thing Japan want here is to be forced to score one.

1:24:18 > 1:24:25So, the Japanese skip playing the same draw, really, as the one that

1:24:25 > 1:24:34Kyle just played. Maybe they will try and stay high...

1:24:40 > 1:24:47He's played a nice shot there. One which we have to follow.

1:24:51 > 1:25:00This is the last stone for Team GB. He really has to come down, sit

1:25:00 > 1:25:09right on top of it. Won't want to have any bounce of it at all, or

1:25:09 > 1:25:13give Japan the opportunity to try and pick up two here.I said before

1:25:13 > 1:25:17that Japan really don't want to be forced to score one here but they

1:25:17 > 1:25:23don't want to lose a steal here, either. And actually if Kyle gets

1:25:23 > 1:25:28this on the button then it could be very difficult to get it out of. So,

1:25:28 > 1:25:39right on the pin here is the ideal position for Kyle Smith.

1:25:49 > 1:25:53They really need the weight to come off this if pair going to get it

1:25:53 > 1:26:00into the centre. They're working it hard. Every inch has to be swept...

1:26:00 > 1:26:05Get it down there! Oh, just a fraction short! Still no gimme for a

1:26:05 > 1:26:13two, but a chance for Japan. New kind of felt like they were waiting

1:26:13 > 1:26:17and waiting to try and get the line right, and they just left it a

1:26:17 > 1:26:22fraction of a second too late to get it down into shot position.I

1:26:22 > 1:26:27thought I heard one of the boys saying it was back button but it was

1:26:27 > 1:26:31quite high and I guess the guys were waiting before they really don't

1:26:31 > 1:26:39indeed for the sweeping. So, a chance here for Kosuke Morozumi to

1:26:39 > 1:26:45just catch the edge of the 1ft. And this is the right side for him to

1:26:45 > 1:26:47come in.

1:27:10 > 1:27:12Not a huge target area for him to reach, but definitely one that is

1:27:12 > 1:27:25manageable. We will see an out turn draw, which is anticlockwise

1:27:25 > 1:27:34rotation of the stone. Really need the legs to come of this if they

1:27:34 > 1:27:43want to score. Yeah, that's just too far, so just a score of one there

1:27:43 > 1:27:53are 14 Japan. -- for Team Japan. And we will go down the last at

1:27:53 > 1:27:59fivefive, and Great Britain will have the hammer.

1:28:00 > 1:28:03have the hammer. So, they didn't make that final stone perfectly, but

1:28:03 > 1:28:08did enough to force a very difficult shot there for Yusuke Morozumi. He

1:28:08 > 1:28:13couldn't convert to put that score of two on the board. And Great

1:28:13 > 1:28:19Britain now, a tied game coming home, they've got the hammer,

1:28:19 > 1:28:22hopefully we're going to see GB put their second win on the board here

1:28:22 > 1:28:28in the men's curling event.

1:28:34 > 1:28:38Now, Thomas Muirhead ready to pounce as soon as it hits that red line.

1:28:38 > 1:28:47We're only talking a few inches away there. So, a good result there for

1:28:47 > 1:28:55Kyle Smith and his team. And Jackie, obviously, the women's team lost

1:28:55 > 1:29:02this morning to the USA. Will this give them a bit of a boost if the

1:29:02 > 1:29:07boys team can come back with a win here this afternoon?Yeah, because

1:29:07 > 1:29:10the girls will be back at the village and they will have the

1:29:10 > 1:29:15curling on so they will be willing the boys on to win. And if the Great

1:29:15 > 1:29:19Britain boys get a win then I'm sure that will give the girls a lift for

1:29:19 > 1:29:29their game this evening. The girls, of course, play China later

1:29:29 > 1:29:36of course, play China later on tonight here in Gangwon.

1:29:38 > 1:29:42tonight here in Gangwon.Yeah, they just seemed to run out of gas a

1:29:42 > 1:29:47little bit this morning, things not quite going their way in the tenth

1:29:47 > 1:29:52end and giving up a steal to lose the game. Great effort by the team

1:29:52 > 1:29:56but it wasn't good enough do they dropped their first game of the

1:29:56 > 1:30:01week, the women.

1:30:06 > 1:30:09week, the women. And Cammy, he did to those in the first game against

1:30:09 > 1:30:16Switzerland and they needed them most, in the extra end. --, when

1:30:16 > 1:30:20they needed them most.

1:30:31 > 1:30:38This is impressive, the fact he has made these shots.

1:30:41 > 1:30:45made these shots. That is helping clear up the forefoot, when you know

1:30:45 > 1:30:50you have the hammer. Going to try and clear up again. Often they say

1:30:50 > 1:30:57it is the harder shot, to do the same shot again. Let's see if he can

1:30:57 > 1:31:02manage it?He did manage it which led to the most straightforward of

1:31:02 > 1:31:13drawers for Kyle Smith. This is where they can make the drawers, the

1:31:13 > 1:31:22guards and the freezes. This can make a big outcome.They shouldn't

1:31:22 > 1:31:26be worried they have put that one in the house, it is in the back of the

1:31:26 > 1:31:32rings. The forefoot is open, two very good shots from Cammy Smith.

1:31:32 > 1:31:37That is all they are trying to achieve, keep the centre open.Yes,

1:31:37 > 1:31:44keep the forefoot open, give your skip the opportunity with either a

1:31:44 > 1:31:56hit or a draw with the last stone of the game.

1:32:00 > 1:32:06Japan just have to keep persevering and keep putting the centre guards

1:32:06 > 1:32:11up. They want to try and steal and an order for them to do that, they

1:32:11 > 1:32:17need something out the front that they can come in and behind. Great

1:32:17 > 1:32:26Britain doesn't need the steal, they just need the forefoot open.

1:32:26 > 1:32:29just need the forefoot open. Now the three Guardsmen role is over, Team

1:32:29 > 1:32:34GB can start to try to remove these stones in the wide area outside the

1:32:34 > 1:32:40front of the house. That is what they are trying to do, not hit and

1:32:40 > 1:32:47stick on the nose in this situation. Trying to peel them. Remove the

1:32:47 > 1:32:52opposition's stones while rolling your throwing stone away so that

1:32:52 > 1:33:02Japan cannot hang behind them.

1:33:03 > 1:33:10We are going to see quite a few of these now.

1:33:27 > 1:33:32If you are Kyle Smith out there and you are the skip, how are you

1:33:32 > 1:33:38feeling with this tied game?As long as he is concentrating, he should be

1:33:38 > 1:33:45thinking, if my team do everything I want for me, and I have a free draw,

1:33:45 > 1:33:52then I have got to deliver.Nice shot by Kyle Waddell to spill one of

1:33:52 > 1:33:57the guards at the side as well. Make things a little bit more

1:33:57 > 1:34:06straightforward to get stones out of play, nothing blocking in the wings.

1:34:06 > 1:34:11He is experienced enough and has played in plenty world tour events

1:34:11 > 1:34:15to know it can often come down to the last stone he plays and he has

1:34:15 > 1:34:23got to lay it well. You shouldn't be too nervous at the moment.

1:34:24 > 1:34:26too nervous at the moment. His team, so far, has performed the shots he

1:34:26 > 1:34:31has wanted to.

1:34:50 > 1:34:56Maybe they will go after the yellow in the house as well, not that there

1:34:56 > 1:35:04is really any need to remove it.

1:35:07 > 1:35:13They have got in. Didn't want to be sitting in the middle. They have

1:35:13 > 1:35:20rolled to the wings, so good sweeping by the team.

1:35:28 > 1:35:34I think the Japanese at the moment, are thinking they may need to change

1:35:34 > 1:35:39their approach. It is all too simple for our boys to remove them. Looking

1:35:39 > 1:35:43at moving get across the eyes a little bit further because they are

1:35:43 > 1:35:53looking for some sort of a jam.

1:35:53 > 1:35:55looking for some sort of a jam. They are going to try and move this one

1:35:55 > 1:36:03over to the side a bit. The British boys will be quite happy to see this

1:36:03 > 1:36:15putting one over there. It's not any sort of threat to them.

1:36:31 > 1:36:38They wanted to put back guard over to the side a little bit. They are

1:36:38 > 1:36:43thinking they want to preserve that stone at the back of the house. They

1:36:43 > 1:36:51are not giving GB the chance to run the guard into it, really.

1:36:55 > 1:36:58the guard into it, really. They have to make sure they get this stone

1:36:58 > 1:37:07right. Both of them, if possible. And your own shooter.

1:37:08 > 1:37:12And your own shooter. Quite happy to just take the top one. I think if

1:37:12 > 1:37:17you went for the both of them, they could have jammed and pushed one of

1:37:17 > 1:37:25the Yellows into the house. So it is OK. Are they going to take a

1:37:25 > 1:37:31time-out? They have already had a time-out, have they?I don't think

1:37:31 > 1:37:37so. Both teams are entitled to a one-minute time-out. I don't think

1:37:37 > 1:37:42they are going to use it in the end. They are going to go back to that

1:37:42 > 1:37:47centre guards again. It just takes one mistake. But I don't think that

1:37:47 > 1:37:57is going to happen. Hopefully our boys can see the win insight here.

1:37:57 > 1:38:04Still some discussion about where they want to go here.

1:38:07 > 1:38:10they want to go here. I think the concern here for them is if they

1:38:10 > 1:38:15throw one onto the centre line, Kyle could run that stone onto the one at

1:38:15 > 1:38:20the back of the house and then they would not have the opportunity to

1:38:20 > 1:38:29lie two with the last one. If Kyle did make a take out against those

1:38:29 > 1:38:31two, he could get the steel that way.

1:39:06 > 1:39:09So, the guard made by Morozumi, perhaps a little bit further down

1:39:09 > 1:39:18the eyes than they would have liked. -- ice. Almost a bit of a shock to

1:39:18 > 1:39:22nothing.

1:39:23 > 1:39:25nothing.He's not at all bothered about that winger. Just wants to

1:39:25 > 1:39:32make sure the yellow stone at the top of the house goes and the

1:39:32 > 1:39:36shooting stone Kyle is about to throw with, doesn't want to stay in

1:39:36 > 1:39:42the front of the house either. He says he is not bothered about it,

1:39:42 > 1:39:53but I bet he wants it. He gets it. Great shot by Kyle Smith.

1:39:53 > 1:39:58Great shot by Kyle Smith. The only real cover that Morozumi has here

1:39:58 > 1:40:07behind the two red stones, the two Corner red stone is that Great

1:40:07 > 1:40:10Britain have. Unfortunately, if he makes the shot, which will be a

1:40:10 > 1:40:14great shot, he will leave the whole of the forefoot open for Kyle Smith

1:40:14 > 1:40:20to draw too. But of course, it is to make that shot. First and foremost,

1:40:20 > 1:40:26Morozumi, with a draw.

1:40:26 > 1:40:28Morozumi, with a draw.Japan have called a time-out here, but I think

1:40:28 > 1:40:34it is not really needed. Just giving themselves a little bit of extra

1:40:34 > 1:40:39time to focus on the shot, perhaps putting a little bit of ice on Kyle

1:40:39 > 1:40:45as well.

1:40:48 > 1:40:50as well. Maybe just giving themselves a little bit of extra

1:40:50 > 1:40:57insurance they weren't going to run out of time. This draw looking

1:40:57 > 1:41:05pretty good. But, GB have been in control of this final end. They have

1:41:05 > 1:41:11made every single shot. Testament to Cammy Smith, has made it so easy for

1:41:11 > 1:41:20his team-mates by making those first two tick shot 's. They need to make

1:41:20 > 1:41:25the eighth to get the win. This is the one that counts, he does have

1:41:25 > 1:41:33the whole of the eight foot to play with. He has just got to lay it and

1:41:33 > 1:41:39let the sleepers take it into the house. This isn't every day shot

1:41:39 > 1:41:46skip will play. It will be playing and his mind that he has to make

1:41:46 > 1:41:54this shot for the win. Taking his time and concentrating. Here it is,

1:41:54 > 1:42:01hold your breath. The final stone of the tenth end. We have seen some

1:42:01 > 1:42:06great draws by Kyle Smith. Just needs to be in the eight Foot Circle

1:42:06 > 1:42:13to put another win on the board for Team GB.The boys are looking right

1:42:13 > 1:42:16confident at the minute. Just cleaning. Should be good enough for

1:42:16 > 1:42:24the win. It is. Well done, the boys. Well done by Kyle Smith and his

1:42:24 > 1:42:30team. Gets the second win of the week for GB in what was a very, very

1:42:30 > 1:42:36tight game throughout. Neither team giving an inch. But as GB, on the

1:42:36 > 1:42:41right side of the decision and here in session three, they go to two

1:42:41 > 1:42:50wins and one loss.

1:42:54 > 1:43:01So a dramatic last stone win for the boys against Japan and that is their

1:43:01 > 1:43:07second win of their Olympic campaign so far in the round-robin stages.

1:43:07 > 1:43:13While the boys are competing in their first Olympics, Team GB's

1:43:13 > 1:43:17women are seasoned pros. Eve Muirhead is in her third Olympic

1:43:17 > 1:43:21Games and she is desperate to get the only gold medal that has so far

1:43:21 > 1:43:26and eluded her. They had one session yesterday where they were

1:43:26 > 1:43:29comfortable winners against the Olympic Athletes from Russia. This

1:43:29 > 1:43:36morning they played the USA, but it was a surprise defeat to a USA team

1:43:36 > 1:43:40who are competing in their first Olympics. They would take the win

1:43:40 > 1:43:47seven bash for against the Brits. And after the match, Eve Muirhead

1:43:47 > 1:43:55spoke to Steve Cram. Lauren, Eve, your verdict?Obviously

1:43:55 > 1:44:00disappointing result. It came down to a few half shots by us when the

1:44:00 > 1:44:05crucial stages. But there is a long way to go, we had a good win last

1:44:05 > 1:44:08night and we have another important game later on against China. We have

1:44:08 > 1:44:12too learned as much as we can from that game and take the positives

1:44:12 > 1:44:17into the game later on.What was the issue out there today, Lauren?

1:44:17 > 1:44:22Jackie were saying the ice was playing a bit tricky?It was a

1:44:22 > 1:44:29little bit faster, but we had to adapt and that is why you saw the

1:44:29 > 1:44:33half shots we didn't get, and we have to regroup and come back

1:44:33 > 1:44:39tonight.You have nine matches, it is never about one, single game?It

1:44:39 > 1:44:45is a marathon, a lot of games and our number one goal is to qualify

1:44:45 > 1:44:48for the play-offs. There is a long way to go before that.Good luck

1:44:48 > 1:44:56this evening against China.Thank you.They will be back on the

1:44:56 > 1:45:00isolated today, looking to bounce back from a defeat when they take on

1:45:00 > 1:45:05China. That match will start at 11am and you can see it on BBC One. In

1:45:05 > 1:45:10terms of where they are in the table, Great Britain are sitting

1:45:10 > 1:45:16fourth. One win, one defeat so far.

1:45:34 > 1:45:39Good morning. From Pyeongchang if you're just joining us. We are

1:45:39 > 1:45:42heading towards the end of the afternoon here in South Korea, which

1:45:42 > 1:45:45means there has been plenty of action so far. Here are the

1:45:45 > 1:45:52headlines of what has been an action packed condemn so far. Axon and send

1:45:52 > 1:45:57our rolled back

1:45:57 > 1:46:00our rolled back the years, making history twice, at 35 he is now

1:46:00 > 1:46:08alpine skiing's oldest Olympic champion. Mikaela Shiffrin has been

1:46:08 > 1:46:11tipped to win a host of medals here in Pyeongchang, and the American got

1:46:11 > 1:46:13her campaign off to the perfect start, winning the giant slalom

1:46:13 > 1:46:21gold. Germany top medal table and they got another gold today in the

1:46:21 > 1:46:29pairs figure skating competition. They were fourth after the short

1:46:29 > 1:46:32programme and then they set a new world record free skate to claim

1:46:32 > 1:46:42gold by less than half a point. And then in the snowboard

1:46:42 > 1:46:45then in the snowboard cross, there was a dramatic final with the

1:46:45 > 1:46:56Frenchman taking gold. Plenty more still to

1:46:56 > 1:46:59still to come on day six and here is what is coming up over the next

1:46:59 > 1:47:02couple of hours. Next we will be heading to the skeleton, which got

1:47:02 > 1:47:07under way today with the men's heats. The ice hockey started

1:47:07 > 1:47:10yesterday and today we have the first matches in group see and we

1:47:10 > 1:47:15will be following Sweden when they take on Norway. And the wind has

1:47:15 > 1:47:20dropped so there have been no delays at the Alpine Centre and we will

1:47:20 > 1:47:24catch up with the men's downhill. So, to the skeleton, and Britain

1:47:24 > 1:47:30have great pedigree in this sport. In every single Winter Olympics that

1:47:30 > 1:47:35skeleton has been included, Britain has won a medal and there are high

1:47:35 > 1:47:42hopes for Lizzy Yarnold. It is the men who get under way first, with

1:47:42 > 1:47:50Britain's Dom Parsons, who has been tearing up the track in training so

1:47:50 > 1:47:57far, and lookout for the South Korean who is hoping to become South

1:47:57 > 1:48:00Korea's first medallist outside of the ice rink. Let's head to the

1:48:00 > 1:48:05Alpine Sliding Center, with your commentary team, Amy Williams, John

1:48:05 > 1:48:12Jackson and John Hunter.

1:48:12 > 1:48:17JOHN HUNT: Now, for many people is Deeney favourite for gold, getting a

1:48:17 > 1:48:26huge ovation just listen to the roar. He had an unbelievable clash

1:48:26 > 1:48:32here in Pyeongchang with Dukurs, losing out by a tiny margin in the

1:48:32 > 1:48:37World Cup.

1:48:43 > 1:48:48And you will see the difference in his sliding compared to the others.

1:48:48 > 1:48:55The last two sliders who have

1:48:55 > 1:48:58The last two sliders who have come down, there is just a bit of a

1:48:58 > 1:49:03wobble whereas his lines are perfect. You can see the helmet this

1:49:03 > 1:49:08guy has, it is absolutely brilliant and look at the lead he has got.And

1:49:08 > 1:49:13he's going to be the one to set the standard, as we expected. It is

1:49:13 > 1:49:17clean and fast and he has over a second hooker than any body else so

1:49:17 > 1:49:26far.And with a track record as well.

1:49:26 > 1:49:29well.Next up, the German, 26 at his first Olympics, silver medallist in

1:49:29 > 1:49:34last year's World Championships, number two in the world.Watching

1:49:34 > 1:49:38the start you will see that some of them are starting with their hand

1:49:38 > 1:49:41over the groove, but he's starting with his hand in the middle, and

1:49:41 > 1:49:51that for me is a risky option.Yes, these athletes train so hard and you

1:49:51 > 1:49:54hope that it is a good groove which has been cut out and you have to do

1:49:54 > 1:49:59with what you feel comfortable with, whether on the left or on the right

1:49:59 > 1:50:04and which groove to choose to get the best line, so he just has to be

1:50:04 > 1:50:08careful to make sure his core is strong so he's not putting too much

1:50:08 > 1:50:11weight down on the handle. But so far, really clean lines for the

1:50:11 > 1:50:18German. You can see he's just using his feet to change the angle of the

1:50:18 > 1:50:23sled.He is looking good but his time relative to Yun Sung-bin is way

1:50:23 > 1:50:32off, perhaps illustrating how good he was.

1:50:35 > 1:50:39he was. Alex Jungk is a high class athlete and made to look ordinary in

1:50:39 > 1:50:49that run. Now, in his fourth Olympic Games, is he going to be beaten by a

1:50:49 > 1:50:54Korean? He is absolutely fantastic to watch, the power... He just had

1:50:54 > 1:50:58to correct himself there as we saw his feet darting out but usually he

1:50:58 > 1:51:05is absolutely mustard, Dzeko?I think a lot of people coming out of

1:51:05 > 1:51:08that left-hand groove, it seems to give them a bit of an issue as they

1:51:08 > 1:51:13come out and then struggling to control the sled. But I think

1:51:13 > 1:51:18between him and the Korean, it is for gold and silver. Bronze is

1:51:18 > 1:51:21potentially up for grabs with anybody else. And he has just made a

1:51:21 > 1:51:27little mistake there - is that going to be the difference? You can see

1:51:27 > 1:51:31the height that he gains just from coming into their late. You have got

1:51:31 > 1:51:34to be so good at finding speed on this track but let's see how

1:51:34 > 1:51:39unforgiving this track is...He's probably going to go second,

1:51:39 > 1:51:48Dukurs... No, not even second gen Alex Jungk stays ahead of him! And

1:51:48 > 1:51:52Yun Sung-bin, with that devastating first cost, already has a massive

1:51:52 > 1:51:55advantage over some of his key competitors! Can any of these next

1:51:55 > 1:52:04wave of athletes do anything about this amazing lead that Yun Sung-bin

1:52:04 > 1:52:11has already? The next competitor was 23 years old yesterday, four-time

1:52:11 > 1:52:16world champion and coming into this Olympic Games ranked number five in

1:52:16 > 1:52:25the world, a quality athlete once again.And he's clearly up there in

1:52:25 > 1:52:29the rankings, he's got nothing to lose. So far he has taken some

1:52:29 > 1:52:35really good lines down this track. It's all about getting your

1:52:35 > 1:52:38selections and with each corner you're trying to cancel out the

1:52:38 > 1:52:45highs and lows, keeping the fastest line possible, no real lows and no

1:52:45 > 1:52:51real highs. Coming into 13, he's got to not make any mistakes now as Ema

1:52:51 > 1:52:56there's the uphill section just hear.As long as he doesn't make any

1:52:56 > 1:53:00mistakes coming into 16, he's going to go second... It is a pretty

1:53:00 > 1:53:04decent run and he goes into second place, three tenths behind Yun

1:53:04 > 1:53:09Sung-bin.

1:53:11 > 1:53:14Sung-bin. Dom Parsons, the 30 old from London in his second Olympic

1:53:14 > 1:53:20Games, next, for Great Britain and he has been flying in training and

1:53:20 > 1:53:25it is now time, Amy Williams, for him to put that into practice!OK

1:53:25 > 1:53:28come of the nerves are here, but he has got a great start so let's see

1:53:28 > 1:53:35how much time he can get!Holing narrowly beaten once this year by

1:53:35 > 1:53:39Sung-bin Yun. Get a good start, Dom Parsons and we could get in for an

1:53:39 > 1:53:44excellent run. That's not too bad. Not too bad, not brilliant, he might

1:53:44 > 1:53:48have that extra attention in his legs. He has got on really well with

1:53:48 > 1:53:51this track in training, but it's race day and anything can happen. He

1:53:51 > 1:53:57has got to convert it, and the pressure of that... So far not

1:53:57 > 1:54:01looking too bad, his legs are a little bit all over the place, he is

1:54:01 > 1:54:06having to fight a bit so let's hope he stays relaxed and stays calm.

1:54:06 > 1:54:10Good line, slightly different to the others going into 12. This is the

1:54:10 > 1:54:15part of the track where he needs to hold it together, not make any

1:54:15 > 1:54:18mistakes. That little clip will probably cost him uphill into 14.

1:54:18 > 1:54:24Still going to-odd top ten, though. It is better than that! He is into

1:54:24 > 1:54:32fourth place! And he has gone ahead of the

1:54:33 > 1:54:39of the magnificent Dukurs! This is what we have been seeing in training

1:54:39 > 1:54:44with Dom Parsons, when he has got it right he is faster than the Korean,

1:54:44 > 1:54:49when he's got it wrong, he is still faster. So if he can get the next

1:54:49 > 1:54:52run and nail that exit line down the straight, he's going to move himself

1:54:52 > 1:54:59up into that bronze medal position at least.Next up will be the second

1:54:59 > 1:55:07Briton, rated number 90 in the world, his first Olympic Games for

1:55:07 > 1:55:11Jerry Rice. And reading his biography he seems to be quite a

1:55:11 > 1:55:15character. He likes a bit of fun and games along the way, but now, his

1:55:15 > 1:55:20Olympic Games gets deadly serious. We did a team-building together with

1:55:20 > 1:55:24Jerry Rice, we were on the same team and he is a really, really nice guy.

1:55:24 > 1:55:28Yeah, he comes from St Moritz, he has sled a lot in St Moritz. Perfect

1:55:28 > 1:55:34body position there, just got to stay cool, calm and collected but so

1:55:34 > 1:55:40far this is very good from Jerry Rice.19thth in the World

1:55:40 > 1:55:44Championships last year. This is a lovely first half. And he is one of

1:55:44 > 1:55:48these sliders who could if he gets it right put himself in the mix.

1:55:48 > 1:55:53Just a little bit late there. But very good, he just needed to put his

1:55:53 > 1:55:56head down a little bit, you could just see him looking too much into

1:55:56 > 1:55:59the next corner, but this looks like a really, really good run from Jerry

1:55:59 > 1:56:05Rice.Could easily be top ten. Jerry Rice has had a wonderful run! And he

1:56:05 > 1:56:14goes tenth! So, a bid leader here, Sung-bin Yun. Dom Parsons in a share

1:56:14 > 1:56:19of fifth and it is 11th for Jerry Rice. Some real big guns to be fired

1:56:19 > 1:56:26off over the next ten minutes.

1:56:26 > 1:56:27off over the next ten minutes. This is Dukurs, fourth in Sochi, fourth

1:56:27 > 1:56:33in Vancouver. Although his brother is the headline of the double act,

1:56:33 > 1:56:36Tomas definitely wants to get involved in this medal chase.Yeah,

1:56:36 > 1:56:41that was faster than his first run so he is really wanting this, gets

1:56:41 > 1:56:46down and hold it together... Let's see how he comes out of this first

1:56:46 > 1:56:53section of the track. Going through a flat section between four and

1:56:53 > 1:57:00five. You've got to keep it together and get a perfect exit at nine. Just

1:57:00 > 1:57:06letting it drifts, but he knows how to control it into 12 there. One

1:57:06 > 1:57:09thing the Latvians have, they have a beautiful style on the sled, they're

1:57:09 > 1:57:14nice and relaxed and they just let the corners do the work for them.

1:57:14 > 1:57:18Can you see his shoulders haven't once lifted off the sled? Perfect

1:57:18 > 1:57:23body position. It is so impressive. Three tenths of a second quicker

1:57:23 > 1:57:28than his first run, and that is going to shoot him well forward. He

1:57:28 > 1:57:32was already beautifully positioned in seventh place, and that is now

1:57:32 > 1:57:36what Dom Parsons has got to do, he's next for Great Britain. Heery is,

1:57:36 > 1:57:42Dom Parsons for Great Britain, run two. Tomass Dukurs has just thrown

1:57:42 > 1:57:45down a big statement run and Dom needs to do something similar here.

1:57:45 > 1:57:49Exactly the same start time as his other one, very consistent sliding.

1:57:49 > 1:57:58Just got to keep it together, Dom. Heeded 50.85 in the first, and 50.7

1:57:58 > 1:58:02given what we have just seen from Tomass Dukurs would be lovely here.

1:58:02 > 1:58:06When Don gets it right he has been one of the fastest in training but

1:58:06 > 1:58:11he has also been fast when he has not got it quite right. He needs a

1:58:11 > 1:58:14big run here, this is where it counts... Perfect, that's one of the

1:58:14 > 1:58:18best lines we've seen, so is he going to start pushing himself

1:58:18 > 1:58:24forward towards the medals? Come on, Dom, this is what we need! He's

1:58:24 > 1:58:28catching Tomass Dukurs now! Final couple of bends, looking smooth to

1:58:28 > 1:58:33the finish... Dom Parsons goes to the front! Come on, Dom! What a

1:58:33 > 1:58:37finish that was! And he's done exactly what Tomass Dukurs did! And

1:58:37 > 1:58:41that puts pressure on those above him! The medal chase for Britain is

1:58:41 > 1:58:46on here!

1:58:47 > 1:58:54on here! And now in equal fifth place, the

1:58:54 > 1:58:57place, the legendary Martins Dukurs, twice silver medallist at the

1:58:57 > 1:59:02Olympic Games, and no is going to have to try and chase down Parsons!

1:59:02 > 1:59:08Yeah, joint with the Korean in run one. These guys are now just going

1:59:08 > 1:59:13for it, that was a really good push. The medals are up for grabs, they

1:59:13 > 1:59:16want to go into the next day of racing in the best position

1:59:16 > 1:59:21possible.He looks like he's losing a lot of time to Dom at the top of

1:59:21 > 1:59:27the track - is there enough track left for Dom Parsons to rein in the

1:59:27 > 1:59:33legendary Latvian slider as he makes his way down?Italy going to be

1:59:33 > 1:59:39tenth in it round the 16th and final curve... Martins Dukurs, only three

1:59:39 > 1:59:43hundredths in it! Can you believe, Dom Parsons is just three hundredths

1:59:43 > 1:59:49off the magnificent Martins Dukurs?! And he knows how close he is! Make

1:59:49 > 1:59:55no mistake, Parsons is in the next year.

1:59:56 > 2:00:06Currently in second place, the Olympic Athletes from Russia.

2:00:06 > 2:00:13Celebrated his birthday yesterday, Nikita Tregubov. I hope those

2:00:13 > 2:00:24celebrations were not too heavy. Solid start time, in fifth place.

2:00:24 > 2:00:29These athletes train their whole lives, all summer to get as fast and

2:00:29 > 2:00:33be strong as they can, explosiveness of the blocks and then they have to

2:00:33 > 2:00:39learn how to slide and drive and feel comfortable on the sled. Using

2:00:39 > 2:00:45his feet to steer through that section of ten and 11. Good, clean

2:00:45 > 2:00:50lines. Not made any major mistakes. He is in the green so I think we

2:00:50 > 2:00:57will see him with a fast time.Looks that way. No mistake through 15.

2:00:57 > 2:01:06Nikita Tregubov, goes first. Tenth of a second ahead of Dukurs and

2:01:06 > 2:01:13daily two tenths ahead of Parsons. Run two comes to its conclusion with

2:01:13 > 2:01:17the Korean, Sungbin Yun, the last one to go. We have been talking

2:01:17 > 2:01:23about tenths of a second. This fella, after the first run was three

2:01:23 > 2:01:30tenths of a second clear of anybody else. If he can put this in again,

2:01:30 > 2:01:35we can already half put the gold medal round his neck.I could hear

2:01:35 > 2:01:39the other guys in the next commentating Booth, I could hear

2:01:39 > 2:01:45them, the nonnormal time he has put down, see them's record. This is

2:01:45 > 2:01:51what he has come to do, a new Star Trek. It wouldn't surprise me if we

2:01:51 > 2:01:57see a new track record as well. Doesn't look quite settled on the

2:01:57 > 2:02:05sled, but it is working for him. Huge lead. Seven tenths in the lead.

2:02:05 > 2:02:09Growing all the time. Yun the magnificent vent, slight mistake,

2:02:09 > 2:02:19steering with his right foot. Magnificent, Yun.Wow! New track

2:02:19 > 2:02:25record. You can hear the crowds outside. Spectacular run. He was

2:02:25 > 2:02:28using his feet so he didn't think he was on the Perth that line, but that

2:02:28 > 2:02:35is how to slide this track. It is incredible. He has come for

2:02:35 > 2:02:41business. Sungbin Yun has taken the first two runs a part here in

2:02:41 > 2:02:44Pyeongchang and he is a massive favourite to now go on and win the

2:02:44 > 2:02:49gold. But, the great news for Great Britain is, there are five others

2:02:49 > 2:02:55who will chase the other two medals and Dom Parsons in fourth place is

2:02:55 > 2:03:01one of those. He has put himself in a great position as he Jerry Rice is

2:03:01 > 2:03:0312.

2:03:03 > 2:03:06a great position as he Jerry Rice is 12. A thrilling first two heats up

2:03:06 > 2:03:10the Sliding Centre, they will be back tomorrow for three and four to

2:03:10 > 2:03:17decide who will win the gold medal. I am joined by Amy Williams. How is

2:03:17 > 2:03:24the jet lag, you arrived yesterday? I am a little bit fuzzy has it --

2:03:24 > 2:03:28headed, so if I say something odd, I will blame it on that.What a great

2:03:28 > 2:03:33session it was for the Brits yesterday?Great way to stop the

2:03:33 > 2:03:38competition, both Brits putting down some incredible runs, in particular

2:03:38 > 2:03:43Dom Parsons, who has got on really well in training. Likes the track,

2:03:43 > 2:03:48suits it. Is peaking at the right time. Jerry Rice, the newcomer in

2:03:48 > 2:03:5412th place. Almost in the top ten, which for him would be an

2:03:54 > 2:03:57outstanding result. They have flown under the radar coming into this,

2:03:57 > 2:04:01they haven't had the best of results coming in, but now they are making

2:04:01 > 2:04:07people stand up and look at them here in Pyeongchang?Great Britain

2:04:07 > 2:04:11and the skeleton are good at peaking for the major competitions. The team

2:04:11 > 2:04:15are working well and they have this momentum going. The men and the

2:04:15 > 2:04:20women have been doing well in their training times. It is a brand-new

2:04:20 > 2:04:24track so everybody is on a level playing field, apart from the

2:04:24 > 2:04:28Korean, who is in first place at the moment. Everyone has got to learn

2:04:28 > 2:04:32the track quickly and that is what we are good at doing in Great

2:04:32 > 2:04:36Britain.

2:04:36 > 2:04:40Britain.Sungbin Yun, he could become a national hero here?He

2:04:40 > 2:04:46could, tomorrow and it looks like at the moment, he will. We have the

2:04:46 > 2:04:54Latvian, Martins Dukurs, who is very strong.

2:04:54 > 2:04:59strong. Dom is only just behind the medal position. If he goes back to

2:04:59 > 2:05:08their apartment, get their runners ready, then just wake up, pretend

2:05:08 > 2:05:11that yesterday, well, today, never happened and then just do what he

2:05:11 > 2:05:17knows he is doing well. He had the fastest speed in the time clock. So

2:05:17 > 2:05:22the bottom half of the track, he is doing well. Very unique, this uphill

2:05:22 > 2:05:25section, steep bits and flatbread. Got to hold it all together.

2:05:25 > 2:05:31Hopefully he will push a little bit further and I don't see why we

2:05:31 > 2:05:40cannot get the bronze medal.I do have to mention suitgate and the

2:05:40 > 2:05:45Great Britain suits are taking criticism. I am not down with the

2:05:45 > 2:05:49technicalities, so can you explain it to us? Is it something that is a

2:05:49 > 2:05:53mind game when Misi guys going down the track quickly, they find

2:05:53 > 2:06:00something to take them out of their stride?Whenever there is an athlete

2:06:00 > 2:06:05that comes out of nowhere, at an Olympic Games, people are asking,

2:06:05 > 2:06:11what are they doing? What is different? It is psychological, the

2:06:11 > 2:06:15suits, the sled is, the runners get tested by the jury members and they

2:06:15 > 2:06:19have all been passed. They said they have used these suits before so why

2:06:19 > 2:06:24are people picking holes in them now? I don't know. I have not

2:06:24 > 2:06:27physically seen them but I don't see much difference. It is innovation,

2:06:27 > 2:06:32Great Britain are good at research and development, but so is every

2:06:32 > 2:06:37other nation. I don't know, trying to play games, Great Britain are

2:06:37 > 2:06:40confident in their suits, their helmets and their sled sat been

2:06:40 > 2:06:46okayed by a jury. Will be interesting to see how they get on

2:06:46 > 2:06:50tomorrow, the girls are in action, Lizzy Yarnold and Laura Deas. They

2:06:50 > 2:06:54have been burning up the track, have you spoken to them?I haven't spoken

2:06:54 > 2:07:00to them, I have left messages. I have spoken to other members of the

2:07:00 > 2:07:07team. Coach says we are in a good place, like we were before

2:07:07 > 2:07:13Vancouver, like we were before Sochi. The athletes know they

2:07:13 > 2:07:18peaking at the right time and building this momentum. Laura Deas

2:07:18 > 2:07:21is physically in the best shape of her life and has had unbelievable

2:07:21 > 2:07:25starts. Lizzie, we know she loves big competition and is a

2:07:25 > 2:07:30championship slider. She is the reigning world champion and Olympic

2:07:30 > 2:07:34champion. Let's see what she can do and there is no reason, if they do

2:07:34 > 2:07:39as well as their training times, but they cannot bring home the medals.

2:07:39 > 2:07:43Thank you be joining us, we will let you get over the jet lag and get

2:07:43 > 2:07:46some sleep. We look forward to the skeleton tomorrow but we are heading

2:07:46 > 2:07:50to the ice hockey because the group C group matches have got underway

2:07:50 > 2:07:55and Sweden are taking on Norway. They are in the first period so

2:07:55 > 2:08:00let's go to our commentary team.

2:08:04 > 2:08:14Thank you. Sweden on the scoreboard.

2:08:14 > 2:08:26The Swedes are wearing the familiar yellow shirt. Just in time.

2:08:26 > 2:08:28yellow shirt. Just in time. Sweden have their second in the game and

2:08:28 > 2:08:36they deserve nothing less. The goalkeeper has been under siege and

2:08:36 > 2:08:40has made some super saves. Sweden doubled their ad vantage and now

2:08:40 > 2:08:45lead 2-0.

2:08:46 > 2:08:53lead 2-0.Look at the puck movement. The shots are met.

2:08:57 > 2:09:02The shots are met. Watch the post, just come up a little bit. Not

2:09:02 > 2:09:10enough to dislodge the net completely. Did the player go in

2:09:10 > 2:09:16under their own steam? It should be a good goal. Anton Lander, the nose

2:09:16 > 2:09:23of a goal-scorer going to the front of the net.Another discussion

2:09:23 > 2:09:33between the officials.

2:09:33 > 2:09:37between the officials.We had a player in the US, Canada women's

2:09:37 > 2:09:41game earlier today that was called back. This is where two Canadian

2:09:41 > 2:09:50players went into the blue paint, under their own steam.

2:09:56 > 2:10:03He had no choice but to go that way.

2:10:03 > 2:10:06Had the Swedish player Gunning of his own accord, that would have been

2:10:06 > 2:10:15no goal. This has been so impressive from Sweden, having watch the

2:10:15 > 2:10:17Olympic Athletes from Russia yesterday. Started well, but

2:10:17 > 2:10:22fizzled. Sweden don't want that to happen to them and be looking for a

2:10:22 > 2:10:32third goal in this all Viking match-up. Sweden against Norway and

2:10:32 > 2:10:41Sweden, as we

2:10:41 > 2:10:52Sweden, as we watch Lander.Nice little back hand pass.

2:10:52 > 2:10:54little back hand pass. Went to the front of the net is able to put the

2:10:54 > 2:11:05home what we call, a garbage goal. Easy tap in for Anton Lander.Norway

2:11:05 > 2:11:12can clear away again. Sweden go back.

2:11:12 > 2:11:18back. That was a better penalty coming against the Swedes. It is a

2:11:18 > 2:11:24tripping call. That is the signal made forcibly, by the officials.

2:11:24 > 2:11:35Heading to the penalty box.Tough to argue this one. No way coming into

2:11:35 > 2:11:48the offence alone. Number 45 gets his stick. This would be a big

2:11:48 > 2:11:55opportunity for Norway. If they can somehow sneak one pass the netminder

2:11:55 > 2:12:02to make this a 2-1 game before it is up.Sweden trying to clear this one

2:12:02 > 2:12:13away. They have done a great job. It will go zipping wide of the target.

2:12:15 > 2:12:19No way, finding it hard to get the puck out of their own zone right

2:12:19 > 2:12:28now. Wide it goes. Options here in the offensive zone for the

2:12:28 > 2:12:31Norwegians. But they need to make sure they get the quality chances

2:12:31 > 2:12:38in.

2:12:43 > 2:12:49The ice, cutting up in this period.

2:12:58 > 2:13:01Reach and a stretch and Sweden should get this clear. Under a

2:13:01 > 2:13:12minute remaining the power play. Nice shot from the Swedish penalty

2:13:12 > 2:13:17killers, keeping an active stick. Always moving it back and forth.

2:13:17 > 2:13:25Disrupting the passes.

2:13:25 > 2:13:31Disrupting the passes. Picked up by the captain. Sweden want to get it

2:13:31 > 2:13:35over the line. This impressive Swedish performance is extended to

2:13:35 > 2:13:42their power play unit, their penalty goal unit. That is where we are now.

2:13:42 > 2:13:52Into the final minute.

2:13:54 > 2:14:04This is five on four. Look up the two yellow checkers, causing so much

2:14:04 > 2:14:15havoc to the Norwegian players.

2:14:16 > 2:14:23The face-off goes back into the Norwegian's zone. Norway is going to

2:14:23 > 2:14:31have to match the pace of Sweden if they want to get back into this game

2:14:31 > 2:14:44because Sweden have been flying out there.

2:14:46 > 2:14:54Sweden just overpowering at the moment.

2:14:54 > 2:15:06moment. No way, trying to move it out of their own zone.

2:15:11 > 2:15:22The first period, absolutely totally and completely dominated by Sweden.

2:15:22 > 2:15:29Anton Lander made it 2-0, but they could be five or four up at this

2:15:29 > 2:15:38moment. You have got to say Sweden look a class above. End of the first

2:15:38 > 2:15:44period in this all Scandinavian affair, it is Sweden who lead Norway

2:15:44 > 2:15:452-0.

2:15:50 > 2:15:54So, that one going with form, Sweden with an advantage over Norway. And

2:15:54 > 2:15:57we will be back to the hockey centre for the start of the second period.

2:15:57 > 2:16:01But if you are just joining us, good afternoon. From Pyeongchang that it

2:16:01 > 2:16:05has been a beautiful day here's, the sun just beginning to set behind me

2:16:05 > 2:16:14and here is what has been happening so far today. Mikaela Shiffrin has

2:16:14 > 2:16:18been tipped to win a host of medals in Pyeongchang, and the American got

2:16:18 > 2:16:22her campaign off to the perfect start by winning the giant slalom.

2:16:22 > 2:16:27Germany topped the medal table in Pyeongchang, and they got another

2:16:27 > 2:16:34gold today in the pairs figure skating. They were fourth after the

2:16:34 > 2:16:39short programme but set a new world record free skate to claim gold by

2:16:39 > 2:16:45less than half a point. In the snowboard cross, the Frenchman

2:16:45 > 2:16:55Voltier retained his Olympic title. And Great Britain's Dom Parsons is

2:16:55 > 2:16:59in medal contention at the halfway stage of the men's skeleton

2:16:59 > 2:17:03competition, sitting fourth after a great days work at the Olympics

2:17:03 > 2:17:07leading centre. The South Korean home favourite Sung-bin Yun leads

2:17:07 > 2:17:13the way. But we're going to stick with high-speed and head to the

2:17:13 > 2:17:16Alpine Centre, where we finally got the men's downhill under way today.

2:17:16 > 2:17:22It is an exhilarating event and it tends to throw up quite a bit of

2:17:22 > 2:17:31drama as well. The reigning world champion has not had the best of

2:17:31 > 2:17:34luck at the Olympics, missing Vancouver with injury and injured in

2:17:34 > 2:17:46Sochi as well and not able to get into the medals.

2:17:47 > 2:17:51It does not always follow the form guide, so to talk you through it,

2:17:51 > 2:17:59it's Matt Chilton. MATT CHILTON: At long last it is a

2:17:59 > 2:18:03stunning morning here and conditions are now perfect for the blue and

2:18:03 > 2:18:09event at the Olympic Winter Games, the men's downhill. And the German

2:18:09 > 2:18:18as a way. The 24-year-old made his mark in January by winning in

2:18:18 > 2:18:23Kitzbuhel, what a way to get your first victory on the toughest course

2:18:23 > 2:18:29of them all. And here he goes. You have to fight against gravity, which

2:18:29 > 2:18:35sends you off to the left.

2:18:36 > 2:18:43sends you off to the left. Flying over that jump, Tommy Dressen, who

2:18:43 > 2:18:48was first to ski in the downhill stage of the Olympic combined, won

2:18:48 > 2:18:52by Marcel Hirscher earlier in the week. He was the quickest man on the

2:18:52 > 2:18:56mountain, nobody was able to ski quicker than Tommy Dressen. He has

2:18:56 > 2:19:01not put a foot wrong just yet... Getting bounced around. Next jump,

2:19:01 > 2:19:04stands on that right foot, into the Paradise turn, just lost a little

2:19:04 > 2:19:09bit of ground there. But didn't lose too much speed.

2:19:09 > 2:19:11bit of ground there. But didn't lose too much speed. It goes flat here

2:19:11 > 2:19:20after the Paradise turn. Now, heading towards the Blue Dragon

2:19:20 > 2:19:24Valley, the narrowest part of the course of. Spectacular racing here.

2:19:24 > 2:19:28Down towards the Magic Tree. Gets airborne again. We will keep an eye

2:19:28 > 2:19:33on that jump, because Matthias Mayer absolutely flew it in the downhill

2:19:33 > 2:19:38leg of the Alpine combined, so did Marcel Hirscher, and that made a

2:19:38 > 2:19:44difference. Kept his flight relatively low and short there. He's

2:19:44 > 2:19:47almost home now, first man on the course. Takes off and flies the

2:19:47 > 2:19:52jump...

2:19:54 > 2:20:04jump... And his time is 1:41.03. Dominik Paris, roared out of the

2:20:04 > 2:20:10start by the Italian team members, and he's like a speed skater there!

2:20:10 > 2:20:16As he heads off onto the bumpy and pulled Breckenridge, with that

2:20:16 > 2:20:27adverse camber. Trying to stay as high as he can. -- onto the

2:20:27 > 2:20:32high as he can. -- onto the bumpy Dragon Reach. Now heading off to the

2:20:32 > 2:20:37Dragon Claw part of the course. Nine hundredths in front of. It has been

2:20:37 > 2:20:44green all the way for Dominik Paris, who's the third best downhiller of

2:20:44 > 2:20:48the World Cup season. He had a win on home snow just for New Year on a

2:20:48 > 2:20:52similarly rough and bumpy course. Winding down the windows there!

2:20:52 > 2:21:04Difficult landing! Paradise Turn could sort them out today!

2:21:04 > 2:21:07could sort them out today! So, down towards the Blue Dragon Valley. It

2:21:07 > 2:21:11was green all the way and it is still green, despite that mistake!

2:21:11 > 2:21:20Dominik Paris might have taken a, which others might not be able to!

2:21:20 > 2:21:26Keeps that flight quite low, we'll see if that brings him the reward.

2:21:26 > 2:21:31Dominik Paris is still in front. Six green lights down the course of! But

2:21:31 > 2:21:39it's this final time that really matters! -- down the course! Dominik

2:21:39 > 2:21:53Paris leads the Olympic downhill by a court of a second! One of the big

2:21:53 > 2:22:00favourites, from Switzerland, Beat Feuz, the best downhiller of the

2:22:00 > 2:22:06season so far, with three victories. The won in November and again in

2:22:06 > 2:22:12finding, and then he claimed the final downhill before the Olympics

2:22:12 > 2:22:18and garnish. Skiing pretty solidly in training and did not give much

2:22:18 > 2:22:22away because he was standing up and skiing gently on the bottom half of

2:22:22 > 2:22:27his training runs, make no mistake, he's a serious threat today. Huge

2:22:27 > 2:22:34unit of a man, massive jump there! As he slammed the inside edge of

2:22:34 > 2:22:39that right ski down onto the snow! Oh, Beat Feuz is living dangerously!

2:22:39 > 2:22:42It's the Olympic downhill, and he's bringing all the risks into this

2:22:42 > 2:22:47race!

2:22:47 > 2:22:54race! Just about hanging in. Needed a huge amount of strength to hold

2:22:54 > 2:23:01himself up right over his skis. 120km/h, the latest reading for Beat

2:23:01 > 2:23:10Feuz, as he flies down towards the Blue Dragon Valley. And Beat Feuz is

2:23:10 > 2:23:17faster than Paris by a 0.21. A little lopsided on landing as he

2:23:17 > 2:23:24enters the Blue Dragon Valley and sets up for the final quarter of the

2:23:24 > 2:23:27Olympic downhill course. What a flights! That was magnificent

2:23:27 > 2:23:32downhill skiing from the Swiss! He is going to go close here. He may

2:23:32 > 2:23:39well go into gold medal position! Beat Feuz has put down a magnificent

2:23:39 > 2:23:45Olympic downhill run! Huge jump to finish! Beat Feuz is first!

2:23:45 > 2:23:53Fantastic skiing from Beat Feuz! He's into gold medal position! Full

2:23:53 > 2:23:58of risk, he took so many chances, but he got the reward. Look at that,

2:23:58 > 2:24:05almost horizontal on the snow going to how did he keep that ski carving?

2:24:05 > 2:24:09Ready to race is Aksel Lund Svindal, in what will certainly be his final

2:24:09 > 2:24:13Olympic downhill. Fifth in the second training run, third in the

2:24:13 > 2:24:17final training run. Aksel Lund Svindal on his way. Silver medallist

2:24:17 > 2:24:25in Vancouver in 2010. Decent start for the multitalented Aksel Lund

2:24:25 > 2:24:33Svindal. Just tucked slightly lower on that adverse camber, and he

2:24:33 > 2:24:36trails Beat Feuz bio tenth. Clattered that control date, and

2:24:36 > 2:24:43flattened it. Workers going out to make the repair. Svindal has lost

2:24:43 > 2:24:47his ideal racing line. He's throwing everything at his last Olympic

2:24:47 > 2:24:52downhill competition

2:24:52 > 2:24:53everything at his last Olympic downhill competition, but he might

2:24:53 > 2:24:58be pushing just too hard. Now, Svindal will have to take the

2:24:58 > 2:25:03riskiest was able line, cut off the corners, as tightly as he dare, if

2:25:03 > 2:25:08he is to get back into contention here. What a shot that is of the

2:25:08 > 2:25:17great man in full site. As he lands at 111km/h, just a quarter of a

2:25:17 > 2:25:21second off the pace at the last split. Now, Svindal is in front...

2:25:21 > 2:25:25The gamble might be paying off for Aksel Lund Svindal! Into the Blue

2:25:25 > 2:25:33Dragon Valley! Off-balance! Didn't seem to lose any speed! He's

2:25:33 > 2:25:37recovered his poise, he's got his dynamic posture back over his

2:25:37 > 2:25:42skis... And he leads Beat Feuz by a quarter of a second! Svindal skiing

2:25:42 > 2:25:49for gold medal position for Norway! Just want jump to come... It is a

2:25:49 > 2:25:53long flight, he tucks in, he has gone into gold! Svindal steals the

2:25:53 > 2:26:00lead away from Feuz! Magnificent Aksel Lund Svindal! Well, this was

2:26:00 > 2:26:07not textbook downhill jumping from Aksel Lund Svindal, but he knew that

2:26:07 > 2:26:21the risk might just bring him the reward. The Norwegian, number nine.

2:26:21 > 2:26:26He's off, he's pushing, he's skating. Maximum forward propulsion

2:26:26 > 2:26:33for the Norwegian. And he's got the early green light. Six hundredths of

2:26:33 > 2:26:38a second quicker than his great rival and friend and team-mate Aksel

2:26:38 > 2:26:43Lund Svindal. A little low on the Dragon reach there. But the speed is

2:26:43 > 2:26:48good, 111km/h.

2:26:48 > 2:26:50good, 111km/h. Long jump chip, stood immediately on the inside edge of

2:26:50 > 2:26:56that right ski - wonderful anticipation and control from the

2:26:56 > 2:27:0232-year-old Norwegian! And he is flying here! Huge again! He knows he

2:27:02 > 2:27:12has got to roll the dice and take a real chance with this.

2:27:12 > 2:27:21real chance with this. They're all watching keenly

2:27:21 > 2:27:24watching keenly now, as Kjetil Jansrud is absolutely pushing. 112

2:27:24 > 2:27:28on the landing, he travelled 38 metres, it's green again for Kjetil

2:27:28 > 2:27:33Jansrud! 0.37 in front of Aksel Lund Svindal! He could deny Aksel Lund

2:27:33 > 2:27:38Svindal the one thing that is missing, the Olympic old medal in

2:27:38 > 2:27:44downhill! Goodness me, upper body twisting like a freestyler! But he

2:27:44 > 2:27:49seemed to land cleanly enough, and it's green all the way! Only just!

2:27:49 > 2:27:52Four hundredths of a second between the two Norwegians! Which way will

2:27:52 > 2:28:00this go? One jump to come, he takes off... Lands, Thaksin for the

2:28:00 > 2:28:09line... And Kjetil Jansrud is second, Aksel Lund Svindal holds on!

2:28:09 > 2:28:15Kjetil Jansrud's jump was unorthodox, lost control of his left

2:28:15 > 2:28:21ski pole. Ninth best downhiller of the season, Phil is not without a

2:28:21 > 2:28:25chance of getting in amongst the medals, he was pretty solid in

2:28:25 > 2:28:31training. -- Fill. Seventh four years ago in Sochi. Twice the World

2:28:31 > 2:28:38Cup downhill champion. Became the first Italian to win the World Cup

2:28:38 > 2:28:41downhill championship and he did so two years in a row. Peter Fill on

2:28:41 > 2:28:48his way. His team-mate Paris currently in fourth. Peter Fill has

2:28:48 > 2:28:53had time to get a course report over the two-way radio. And Peter Fill is

2:28:53 > 2:28:58off to a flying start, he's one 100th of a second off the pace of

2:28:58 > 2:29:01Aksel Lund Svindal, who raced with number seven. Peter Fill is on the

2:29:01 > 2:29:08course with number 13. And he's in front at the next intermediate. He

2:29:08 > 2:29:14was one hundredths behind, then he's one hundredths in front of. -- in

2:29:14 > 2:29:21front. Peter

2:29:21 > 2:29:23front. Peter Fill pushing hard and taking all sorts of gambles and he

2:29:23 > 2:29:31almost flattened that turn!

2:29:31 > 2:29:35almost flattened that turn! Now, the bottom heart of the track. This is

2:29:35 > 2:29:42the key split... And Peter Fill is now a quarter of a second removed

2:29:42 > 2:29:46from Aksel Lund Svindal's time. And that puts him outside of bronze

2:29:46 > 2:29:51medal position. He needs a really direct line, and that was off to the

2:29:51 > 2:29:55left, skier's left in the soft snow, I don't think that's going to help

2:29:55 > 2:30:00him. The time has got worse and he's now half a second off the pace. And

2:30:00 > 2:30:07that will push him down to about fourth or fifth position. Last jump,

2:30:07 > 2:30:10Peter Fill lands, Peter Fill crosses the line. He's missed the medals,

2:30:10 > 2:30:19he's sixth. 0.83 off the pace.

2:30:19 > 2:30:3135-year-old Aksel Lund Svindal is the Olympic downhill champion.

2:30:36 > 2:30:41Aksel Lund Svindal has just become the oldest Alpine skier gold

2:30:41 > 2:30:47medallist at 35 years old. What a moment. Earlier we saw the men's

2:30:47 > 2:30:50great British curling team in their third match and they picked up their

2:30:50 > 2:30:56second win of the round robin stages. It was a last gasp win, yet

2:30:56 > 2:31:04again. Tension at the Curling Centre as they beat Japan. A huge result

2:31:04 > 2:31:10and the team was speaking afterwards to Logan Gray.

2:31:10 > 2:31:13Congratulations on a hard-fought win, how pleasing is it to come

2:31:13 > 2:31:20through such a tight game with a win?Great feeling. We are trying to

2:31:20 > 2:31:24get it for Kyle in his last draw, and we produced the goods to get

2:31:24 > 2:31:33that.Once again, you nail

2:31:33 > 2:31:37that.Once again, you nail those two tick shots, how pleasing is that?

2:31:37 > 2:31:43Something we try very hard for in practice, so great it is coming.

2:31:43 > 2:31:47Kyle, last night was a mixed bag at times, but the strong performance in

2:31:47 > 2:31:52the second half, how important was it to bounce back and continue that

2:31:52 > 2:31:56momentum you generated last night? It is something we talked about to

2:31:56 > 2:32:00try and be more consistent through the entire games, having good spells

2:32:00 > 2:32:06and a few bad spells. I think we put that into action today. A couple of

2:32:06 > 2:32:09times, things didn't look too good but we managed to get the bailout

2:32:09 > 2:32:13shot when we needed it and it was a good team performance and we ground

2:32:13 > 2:32:17out the win.Sweden in the next game, you have had some good

2:32:17 > 2:32:20performances against them in the past, will back give you some

2:32:20 > 2:32:24confidence going into the game tomorrow? They are one of the best

2:32:24 > 2:32:29teams in the world, if we can play like we did today, shorten up a bit

2:32:29 > 2:32:36on the slight mistakes we made, we can take them all away.Well done on

2:32:36 > 2:32:41your second wind, keep up the good work.We are going back to the ice

2:32:41 > 2:32:44hockey were at the top seeds in group C, Sweden have the lead ever

2:32:44 > 2:32:49Norway after the first period. We are joined Ken Simpson and Seth

2:32:49 > 2:32:57Bennett now for the second period.

2:32:57 > 2:33:03Norway, to start this period have come out with a bit more jump in

2:33:03 > 2:33:07their legs, a bit more attitude, if you like. That will be important if

2:33:07 > 2:33:14they are to try and claw their way back into this game.

2:33:16 > 2:33:23back into this game. Sweden are a hockey superpower. And even without

2:33:23 > 2:33:28their NHL superstars, who are back home in North America, they can

2:33:28 > 2:33:32still put the very strong team out on the ice, which could be good

2:33:32 > 2:33:35enough to go one better than four years ago and take home the gold

2:33:35 > 2:33:39medal.

2:33:40 > 2:33:45medal. Broken stick. £160 worth of hockey stick which has been pushed

2:33:45 > 2:33:56aside there. The netminder for Norway.Sweden has several of their

2:33:56 > 2:34:11team playing domestically in the SHL, and also the KHL.

2:34:12 > 2:34:13SHL, and also the KHL. Although no NHL players, they can put a very

2:34:13 > 2:34:21good team out on the ice.Players who have been to North America.

2:34:21 > 2:34:24Already have had their taste of it and for whatever reason I moved back

2:34:24 > 2:34:31to Europe. Might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, or

2:34:31 > 2:34:36not quite have been at that level. Different style of hockey between

2:34:36 > 2:34:39North America and Europe. Sweden, you will see in this game, they

2:34:39 > 2:34:47skate so well. They move so quickly. And they play on this Olympic size

2:34:47 > 2:34:57ice very well. What can they do now, they get possession back. Shot goes

2:34:57 > 2:35:11high and wide from Henrik Lundqvist. In comes the Norwegian

2:35:12 > 2:35:15In comes the Norwegian shot and Olimb has a shot. Norway look to get

2:35:15 > 2:35:23themselves on the board.

2:35:23 > 2:35:26themselves on the board. Norway, just exerting a tiny bit of pressure

2:35:26 > 2:35:35here. Sweden should clear that one away. I mentioned Henrik Lundqvist,

2:35:35 > 2:35:42he was the netminder for Sweden in the Olympic final not so long ago.

2:35:42 > 2:35:53His brother now playing in this game.Nice little toe

2:35:56 > 2:35:58game.Nice little toe drag off the stick of Ken Andre Olimb. He has

2:35:58 > 2:36:06been one of the Norwegian players who has been most notable. Norway

2:36:06 > 2:36:11will be looking for more of the same. Getting the puck indeed,

2:36:11 > 2:36:20trying to use their speed against the big, hulking Swedish defenders.

2:36:20 > 2:36:28Ken Andre Olimb is one of those players who played in Sochi. He was

2:36:28 > 2:36:32part of the Norwegian team four years ago. They did themselves very

2:36:32 > 2:36:37proud indeed.

2:36:41 > 2:36:46proud indeed. Doing quite nicely for himself, seven goals in the season.

2:36:46 > 2:36:52We have a collision and a player down.

2:36:53 > 2:36:57down. Getting to its feet is Anton Lander, scorer of the second goal.

2:36:57 > 2:37:03He wanted a penalty on the play. I think it was incidental contact.

2:37:03 > 2:37:13Just looking in two directions. They run into each other.

2:37:13 > 2:37:15run into each other. You can understand his frustration. He

2:37:15 > 2:37:23wasn't watching.

2:37:23 > 2:37:29wasn't watching. Martin Roy Mark, came across the neutral zone.Sweden

2:37:29 > 2:37:35in the traditional shirt, the yellow with the three crowns.

2:37:37 > 2:37:39with the three crowns. Expectations in Sweden will be, once again there

2:37:39 > 2:37:47will be finishing on the podium. Going into this tournament, many

2:37:47 > 2:37:50people have the Olympic Athletes from Russia as the favourites. But

2:37:50 > 2:37:57Sweden, Canada, Finland, our teams that would not surprise anyone if

2:37:57 > 2:38:07they wear wearing the gold medal around their necks will

2:38:11 > 2:38:15around their necks will stop ice hockey always a good place to be at

2:38:15 > 2:38:19the Winter Olympics.Guaranteed action and guaranteed relative

2:38:19 > 2:38:25warmth in the arena. There has been some good entertainment as well.

2:38:25 > 2:38:36That one goes over the top from Norway.Norway and Sweden, two

2:38:36 > 2:38:39countries close biogeography, both Scandinavian countries, but wide

2:38:39 > 2:38:45apart when it comes to the hockey world. 63,000 players registered

2:38:45 > 2:38:52playing in Sweden. You have 356 indoor ice rinks, 156 outdoor ice

2:38:52 > 2:38:58rinks. No way, 47 indoor ice rinks and just one outdoor ice rink. --

2:38:58 > 2:39:06Norway.Sweden will send this one down the boards. They have

2:39:06 > 2:39:12possession back. Maybe can create a little bit more.

2:39:13 > 2:39:16little bit more. Norway, a lot more resolute. Almost like they needed

2:39:16 > 2:39:22one period just to get it out of their system. Maybe get the journey

2:39:22 > 2:39:28out of their legs. But everybody has been here quite long enough. The

2:39:28 > 2:39:34shot will come back. Chance to clear away again. Out of the zone and that

2:39:34 > 2:39:44is well held onto. Norway, pressing Sweden higher up the ice. They do

2:39:44 > 2:39:52have a player down on the ice. Sweden come forward. Snapshot goes

2:39:52 > 2:39:57in.

2:39:58 > 2:40:03in. Now, Norway will try and get it away. Sweden doing a good job at

2:40:03 > 2:40:12getting in on the blue line and sticking the puck back in.

2:40:12 > 2:40:14sticking the puck back in. Chance now to create for Norway. Back to

2:40:14 > 2:40:23the blue line. It it's the official. Painful. Norway putting some

2:40:23 > 2:40:34pressure on the net. Goes out in front again and Sweden can clear

2:40:34 > 2:40:42away.

2:40:42 > 2:40:52away. Sweden will retreat. We have some pushing and shoving. Not happy

2:40:52 > 2:40:58with one another.

2:40:58 > 2:41:11with one another.Remember the last time Lander was out. He was hit from

2:41:13 > 2:41:21behind by Martin Roymark. He comes behind

2:41:26 > 2:41:31behind this time.

2:41:38 > 2:41:45Now it goes deep into the zone. Ice hockey is one of those sports wear

2:41:45 > 2:41:51lots of new phrases and terms are thrown. Face-offs are known as

2:41:51 > 2:41:58drawers. Amongst other things.

2:42:01 > 2:42:06drawers. Amongst other things. The boards known as walls. The half wall

2:42:06 > 2:42:10as well, little bits of terminology may hear about to the cause of this

2:42:10 > 2:42:18Winter Olympics. Bouncing back of the pads.

2:42:22 > 2:42:28the pads. Norway come into the zone and they may profit from this. Shot

2:42:28 > 2:42:36in but deflected well wide of the target. Sweden then turn it back the

2:42:36 > 2:42:42other way. It was a great play from Frederick Pettersson. But no way

2:42:42 > 2:42:45eventually read it.

2:43:08 > 2:43:15Norway go chasing. This is a chance at the side of the net. Can be

2:43:15 > 2:43:22finished this one up?

2:43:22 > 2:43:25finished this one up? Cleared away by Sweden. Penalty coming against

2:43:25 > 2:43:30the Swedes.

2:43:34 > 2:43:39the Swedes. Right and Berg was the player who went closest.Nice

2:43:39 > 2:43:48response from Norway. It was a loose puck by the net that started it all.

2:43:48 > 2:43:56Sharp angled shot got the Swedish team running around.

2:43:56 > 2:44:02team running around. It was during the scrum in front of the net, the

2:44:02 > 2:44:11puck was loose. The netminder was scrambling around. The puck was

2:44:11 > 2:44:18loose.

2:44:18 > 2:44:23loose. You can see the crosscheck. That is a tough call, it was the

2:44:23 > 2:44:30back referee that made that call. Six of one, half a dozen of the

2:44:30 > 2:44:38other, it looked to me. Tommy Christiansen agrees.

2:44:38 > 2:44:41Christiansen agrees. You can sense his frustration. He was trying to

2:44:41 > 2:44:48get his stick away free to get it on the eyes when

2:44:50 > 2:44:53the eyes when he got Johan Franzen. That is too bad, that is the best

2:44:53 > 2:45:00push we have seen from Norway so far this afternoon. They end up one

2:45:00 > 2:45:06short because of it. Norway will go on the pathway and they will look to

2:45:06 > 2:45:13make something happen. How will they move around?

2:45:15 > 2:45:24Big deflection! Really nice idea, that, as they sent it hard to the

2:45:24 > 2:45:29net, it was just a hard pass, not looking to get any power on the

2:45:29 > 2:45:35shot, just redirect the speed that was already there.Fredrik

2:45:35 > 2:45:43Pettersson shipping it right towards the tape of Patrik Zackrisson and he

2:45:43 > 2:45:49just wants to deflect it so it is really tough for the goalie as the

2:45:49 > 2:45:56puck suddenly redirects, and made a good save.Good turnover in the

2:45:56 > 2:46:09offensive zone. He goes tumbling to the floor.

2:46:09 > 2:46:17the floor. Back goes Mikael Wikstrand.

2:46:17 > 2:46:24Sweden start to think about setting up.

2:46:24 > 2:46:29up. Linus Omark is a magician, the way he manipulates that puck. And he

2:46:29 > 2:46:32finds Fredrik Pettersson! Fredrik Pettersson misses the net! Back he

2:46:32 > 2:46:37goes again.

2:46:43 > 2:46:47Aksel Lund Svindal has it stolen, the Norwegians are on the break! Can

2:46:47 > 2:47:03they use it well?! What a passage of play! -- Pettersson has it stolen.

2:47:03 > 2:47:06Fredrik Pettersson was someone who caught our eye in the first period,

2:47:06 > 2:47:12we both really liked his energy. It was his shot. That's one of the

2:47:12 > 2:47:16things about Linus Omark, you mentioned he's a magician with the

2:47:16 > 2:47:20puck, if he's got one fault, it is that he looks to pass too often, and

2:47:20 > 2:47:27we saw

2:47:27 > 2:47:31we saw that there will as the power play comes to a close. And Sweden

2:47:31 > 2:47:38create opportunities, a few heart stopping moments but any big saves?

2:47:38 > 2:47:41No, not in the power play, you're right. They moved the puck around

2:47:41 > 2:47:48nicely but nothing to show for it. And this is where they will become a

2:47:48 > 2:47:52little frustrated, having had such a hot start to the game. We saw it

2:47:52 > 2:47:55with the Olympic Athletes from Russia and we saw it with the USA,

2:47:55 > 2:48:00that it only takes a goal for the other team all of a sudden to start

2:48:00 > 2:48:04to believe, and then everything changes entirely. A third goal will

2:48:04 > 2:48:08change things the other way. That was close. Good skating to get there

2:48:08 > 2:48:15from Johan Fransson.

2:48:15 > 2:48:19from Johan Fransson. Long outlet pass is eventually cleared. It

2:48:19 > 2:48:33needed two bites at the cherry from Mathis Olimb.

2:48:33 > 2:48:40Good movement from Mats Rosseli Olsen.

2:48:48 > 2:48:52Mats Rosseli Olsen falls but keeps possession. Net empty to our

2:48:52 > 2:48:58left-hand side... And as soon Sweden touched the puck, the whistle will

2:48:58 > 2:49:04go. And it looks like the captain Joel Lundqvist will go. A shake of

2:49:04 > 2:49:10the head.Well, he's the veteran on this team, as you mentioned, the

2:49:10 > 2:49:18captain. One thing about Joel Lundqvist, a wonderful player, if

2:49:18 > 2:49:22there is any question mark about his game it is his skating, and there he

2:49:22 > 2:49:26just loses his step and has to take his hand off the stick, grab onto

2:49:26 > 2:49:31the Norwegian, as you can see right here... Any time you take your hand

2:49:31 > 2:49:35off your stick and you wrap it around the opposing player, it's a

2:49:35 > 2:49:40pretty easy call for the referee. So, Norway survives their penalty

2:49:40 > 2:49:46kill, and now they get to go up one here. Still very much in this game.

2:49:46 > 2:49:55How about the back check here from Fredrik Pettersson?!

2:49:55 > 2:49:58Fredrik Pettersson?!Well, he's a player who has already shown what he

2:49:58 > 2:50:03can do at the other end, and it has got to be commitment to team defence

2:50:03 > 2:50:08for Sweden. And that's exactly what Pettersson did there with how he got

2:50:08 > 2:50:14back. Much busier period, this, for Viktor Fasth. As Norway go on their

2:50:14 > 2:50:19second power play of the game. Compared with the four power play is

2:50:19 > 2:50:33for Sweden. So, it's going to come down to that big unit.

2:50:35 > 2:50:39down to that big unit. Norway have it at the top. We've seen them

2:50:39 > 2:50:46trying to spread out the Swedish side. As the shot goes high, and it

2:50:46 > 2:50:55is easily claimed. Quite happy to kill the puck there, Viktor Fasth.

2:50:55 > 2:51:01Viktor Fasth is such a big netminder, you can see this shot...

2:51:01 > 2:51:06Not the best angle when you're on the power play. Pretty easy growth

2:51:06 > 2:51:22save from the Swedish netminder. -- pretty easy glove save.

2:51:22 > 2:51:24pretty easy glove save. The shot never makes it all the way through

2:51:24 > 2:51:30and Sweden will try and clear it away. They do get it out of the zone

2:51:30 > 2:51:34but not enough to go for a change, so Norway will come forward again.

2:51:34 > 2:51:48Trying to find some setup time here. Dished off by Steffen Thoresen.

2:51:48 > 2:51:50Dished off by Steffen Thoresen. Ken Andre Olimb takes his shot, it

2:51:50 > 2:51:54breaks nearly to the side of the net, and the deflection almost did a

2:51:54 > 2:52:00huge favour to Norway there.

2:52:01 > 2:52:08huge favour to Norway there. Still not found that clear opportunity.

2:52:08 > 2:52:14There's another penalty coming here and it is a holding stick call.

2:52:14 > 2:52:21That's the second holding stick call we've seen tonight.

2:52:25 > 2:52:27we've seen tonight. It's going to be Jonas Ahnelov, and Norway is going

2:52:27 > 2:52:32to get a real good chance here as they go five on three. Definitely

2:52:32 > 2:52:37the right call, as you can see Jonas Ahnelov grabbing on to the

2:52:37 > 2:52:41Norwegian's stick, not allowing him to play the puck.Huge moment for

2:52:41 > 2:52:47Norway in this game, then. Five on three, that's a two player advantage

2:52:47 > 2:52:53for the Norwegians. And they're going to take a time-out, that's how

2:52:53 > 2:52:57important they see this as being, a chance to rest the players but also

2:52:57 > 2:53:02make sure everybody knows their roles. You only get one time out

2:53:02 > 2:53:05through the course of the whole game. A lot of times you see teams

2:53:05 > 2:53:08wait near the end of the game, but like you said, this just shows the

2:53:08 > 2:53:16coaching staff of no way realise this is pretty much make or break,

2:53:16 > 2:53:21two nothing down, we need to know ratio. So he wants to call a

2:53:21 > 2:53:28time-out and make sure that everyone knows the plan.

2:53:28 > 2:53:31knows the plan. And you've got 56 seconds, so you don't want to take

2:53:31 > 2:53:34too much time. You don't have to rush but you don't want to take too

2:53:34 > 2:53:39much time before you start taking some shots on Viktor Fasth. If you

2:53:39 > 2:53:47look there at Sweden, the Swedish players, one of them wringing his

2:53:47 > 2:53:50hands after catching the puck, the outside of the glove, well

2:53:50 > 2:53:54protected, the inside is very, very soft leather. So, basically zero

2:53:54 > 2:54:00protection! Anywhere, Norway have a great opportunity here - can they

2:54:00 > 2:54:09make it count? Long clearance... 40 seconds of five against three. So, a

2:54:09 > 2:54:12two player advantage, they have to make sure they make this account.

2:54:12 > 2:54:19Sweden have already had one two-man advantage power play. They didn't.

2:54:19 > 2:54:22Norway must do better, though. They know chances will be few and far

2:54:22 > 2:54:27between like this. So, they're looking to the top, this could be

2:54:27 > 2:54:31the chance to move it now with the captain Jonas Holos. The past,

2:54:31 > 2:54:35though, is to nobody, they seem reluctant to shoot the puck. Steffen

2:54:35 > 2:54:40Thoresen... May be they're going to walk in... That's too strong,

2:54:40 > 2:54:50though. The power play comes to a close, and that's a good save. One

2:54:50 > 2:55:03skater back for Sweden. Snapshot coming in, up in the air, as Norway

2:55:03 > 2:55:08go back. They have to clear out the zone so is there not offside. This

2:55:08 > 2:55:10could be better... Snapshot never makes it through. Good defensive

2:55:10 > 2:55:18play by Sweden. Trying to work one to the net here, just a bit too

2:55:18 > 2:55:24intricate from Norway in the end. Patrick Thoresen...Yeah, Norway was

2:55:24 > 2:55:27looking for the perfect play. Just making one pass too many. Several

2:55:27 > 2:55:33opportunities they had, with the Swedish players moving around peace,

2:55:33 > 2:55:39you just want to drive that ran some onto the net, even if it doesn't go

2:55:39 > 2:55:42clean when you have got a five on three, you can outnumber them in

2:55:42 > 2:55:49front of the net.It is behind the net right now, and Anders Bastiansen

2:55:49 > 2:55:53is there. Back to the blue line it goes. Great work from Viktor Fasth.

2:55:53 > 2:55:59The referee goes slipping over. Got to be careful of that! Eventually

2:55:59 > 2:56:05they aren't angle themselves. Penalty over, but Viktor Fasth

2:56:05 > 2:56:09they're just going to and in his off. He's looked very, very solid

2:56:09 > 2:56:15when called upon. Wasn't very often in the first period, a lot more here

2:56:15 > 2:56:22in the second. Norway now up to ten shots on net. You look at that five

2:56:22 > 2:56:27on three power play and then the five on four, Norway just trying to

2:56:27 > 2:56:33make the perfect shooting attempt, and that might have been the best

2:56:33 > 2:56:39one, off the stick of Mathis Olimb. Into the glove, and then way up high

2:56:39 > 2:56:51in the air.Could have gone anywhere after it hit Staffan Kronwall. It

2:56:51 > 2:56:56takes a big deflection, it might have taken a double deflection. But

2:56:56 > 2:57:03that man so far has been picture-perfect.This is the little

2:57:03 > 2:57:07break here in the arena, Seth, where they clear out the crease of any

2:57:07 > 2:57:12snow. But also they get a new puck and they keep the parks frozen,

2:57:12 > 2:57:16because if it's not frozen the puck can really, really bounce on the ice

2:57:16 > 2:57:21and they don't want to go more than two minutes of play in the Olympics

2:57:21 > 2:57:25without changing and putting in a brand-new puck that's been frozen.

2:57:25 > 2:57:29There's actually a little freezer where the timekeeper's box is and

2:57:29 > 2:57:34they keep about 40 of 50 pucks in there. And after two minutes of

2:57:34 > 2:57:38play, the next whistle, the linesman goes over and changes the puck for a

2:57:38 > 2:57:42brand-new frozen one.And this is actually in the rules of

2:57:42 > 2:57:46competition, is it, that this will happen? They're going on power

2:57:46 > 2:57:53play... Big double big shot from Pettersson! I think there might be a

2:57:53 > 2:57:59second penalty here as well, you know?

2:57:59 > 2:58:02know? More pushing and shoving. This may well even out here. Pettersson

2:58:02 > 2:58:07involved.

2:58:10 > 2:58:16involved. Kristian Forsberg holding his face.

2:58:19 > 2:58:23his face.Yeah, Kristian Forsberg took a glove or a stick up in his

2:58:23 > 2:58:26nose and drew a little blood. The original penalty was coming to

2:58:26 > 2:58:35Norway. Joel Lundqvist, the captain will head over to the officials'

2:58:35 > 2:58:41box. This was the original one... What do you think of that?Fairly

2:58:41 > 2:58:46suspect, but watch next one here... That is a penalty, that IS a

2:58:46 > 2:58:55penalty! Was that a stick?Listen, I've got Kristian Forsberg as he's

2:58:55 > 2:59:00falling down... That's definitely a penalty as well, that brought that

2:59:00 > 2:59:05referee's arm up.That's so dangerous.That is scary, it was

2:59:05 > 2:59:11Joel Lundqvist's skate coming around. As you watch, slow motion,

2:59:11 > 2:59:14the player is falling down and his skate comes up and catches Kristian

2:59:14 > 2:59:19Forsberg. That's going to be really dangerous, he was bleeding quite

2:59:19 > 2:59:25profusely. It's a good thing he was able to get...There you go.

2:59:25 > 2:59:28Hopefully it's a kick in the face, it's a broken nose rather than a

2:59:28 > 2:59:34slash.Hopefully it's the impact rather than a slice, because that

2:59:34 > 2:59:43could be really, really dangerous. So, two-minute tripping call on

2:59:43 > 2:59:50Norway.You know, it's funny that Fredrik Pettersson is in the box, he

2:59:50 > 2:59:55was the one that got cross checked in the first place.

2:59:55 > 3:00:05REFEREE: Crosscheck, two minutes, number 20 on yellow, stick...

3:00:05 > 3:00:09They've just messed up, they had the wrong guy in the penalty box, it's

3:00:09 > 3:00:13Joel Lundqvist that's getting the high stick call. That was actually

3:00:13 > 3:00:19more of a high skate, I think. Absolutely.

3:00:20 > 3:00:24Absolutely. So, the power play will still be with the initial call. They

3:00:24 > 3:00:28then called the crosscheck, they then called a high stick after that.

3:00:28 > 3:00:34We're trying to unpick it for you as we go here...We've got number 20, a

3:00:34 > 3:00:39high stick, two minutes.So, they've doubled up the Joel Lundqvist

3:00:39 > 3:00:42penalty, because if you draw blood it is an automatic extra penalty.

3:00:42 > 3:00:49But as we've seen on the replays, it is a skate! And this is where the

3:00:49 > 3:00:53referee needs to chat with his linesman and so, did you see what

3:00:53 > 3:00:56happened here?I think they're trying to do that now, but it is

3:00:56 > 3:00:59almost in retrospect, which makes it that much more difficult. Joel

3:00:59 > 3:01:06Lundqvist is going to argue his case.

3:01:07 > 3:01:12There is a big screen in the arena. The referee cannot change his mind

3:01:12 > 3:01:17by looking at that. But what a smart referee will do, he will call all

3:01:17 > 3:01:20the lines men in together and will have the linesman facing the screen.

3:01:20 > 3:01:27He will say, while we are chatting, take a look at the replay. If it is

3:01:27 > 3:01:32not a high stick, you let me know. But it looks like they are having a

3:01:32 > 3:01:36conversation about what they saw. The linesman will casually looked up

3:01:36 > 3:01:41and say, that was a skate, it wasn't a stick. They will have that

3:01:41 > 3:01:46conversation and the referee will go, the linesman overruled it and

3:01:46 > 3:01:49say it is escaped. That is what a good referee will do. A lot of

3:01:49 > 3:01:58confusion on this play.Start of a tournament, it rarely happens.

3:01:58 > 3:02:02Lundqvist, continues to stand there but eventually he will have to

3:02:02 > 3:02:10accept his fate. Shape of the head. They are frustrated. It was a skate.

3:02:10 > 3:02:18Had that not been called, of course then, he is pointing, it was my

3:02:18 > 3:02:33scape. Anyway, net result here is that nothing changes.

3:02:33 > 3:02:38that nothing changes. On the ice, we are, as you were. We are as you were

3:02:38 > 3:02:43on the scoreboard. After Sweden dominated the first period so much,

3:02:43 > 3:02:47they really haven't in the second session. They have been above

3:02:47 > 3:02:51average, but no more than that and Norway have been able to take the

3:02:51 > 3:02:56game to them.

3:02:57 > 3:03:02game to them. Into the final five of the second period. Is this the fate

3:03:02 > 3:03:06that will form across a number of the expected to do well teams in

3:03:06 > 3:03:14this tournament? You do wonder about that. Jump out to a quick start and

3:03:14 > 3:03:19then whoever they are playing tends to figure out they can play a little

3:03:19 > 3:03:22bit as well and they start to feel comfortable in their surroundings

3:03:22 > 3:03:29and get rid of some of those early nerves. That is great skating.

3:03:29 > 3:03:42Fredrik Pettersson... Goes wide. Big deflection, goes wide again. Fredrik

3:03:42 > 3:03:47Pettersson again, creating all kinds out there. When they move their

3:03:47 > 3:03:50feet, this Swedish team is a different outfit. When they get

3:03:50 > 3:03:56static, it was close to being offside. Good turn by Fredrik

3:03:56 > 3:04:11Pettersson. Big hit on the boards. Good

3:04:11 > 3:04:21Good skating from Rizzoli Olsson. That comes of the side of the net.

3:04:21 > 3:04:27And Norway in the red and blue. They will just try and do their thing,

3:04:27 > 3:04:35can they grind out a goal? You sent it is going to be a goal that comes

3:04:35 > 3:04:41from... The shot comes in from the side of the net. Again, the Norway

3:04:41 > 3:04:47Jens come.

3:04:47 > 3:04:56Jens come. The response will be a quick one.

3:04:56 > 3:05:01quick one. Everything builds from here.

3:05:05 > 3:05:11here. The shot never reaches the net. Back towards the blue line.

3:05:11 > 3:05:21Sweden, maintaining possession. Good footwork.

3:05:25 > 3:05:29footwork. Jonas Gustavsson on the blue line has plenty of help.Sweden

3:05:29 > 3:05:36has tremendous pressure but they haven't been able to get a shot.

3:05:36 > 3:05:44They get the shot, but it is blocked in front.

3:05:44 > 3:05:49in front. The attempt comes in but another block. Brilliant defensive

3:05:49 > 3:05:53play from Norway. They are hanging in there against the side who is

3:05:53 > 3:05:59prodding and probing.

3:05:59 > 3:06:03prodding and probing. Puck, comes to the front of the net and Norway will

3:06:03 > 3:06:11win the little battle. They are fighting hard to stay in this game.

3:06:19 > 3:06:29No way thought they would have it. Wonderful presence on the back can

3:06:29 > 3:06:46Granville. It was a quick shot. Viktor Fasth, a little off-guard.At

3:06:46 > 3:06:56one stage, Norway were being outshot.

3:06:56 > 3:07:01outshot. It was 11-1, now it is a trial. Shows you how well they have

3:07:01 > 3:07:04played in the second session.

3:07:07 > 3:07:13There is a bit of aggro in this game at the moment, you feel. The goal

3:07:13 > 3:07:23would make it very interesting going into the final period. Shot, well

3:07:23 > 3:07:31blocked again.

3:07:44 > 3:07:50Another scrum, another mother's meeting. It is like the school

3:07:50 > 3:07:56gates, everybody having a quick chat about what has been going on.Kabul

3:07:56 > 3:08:05of smiles. He is a look at Stefan Cron Ville. Big defender. Get in the

3:08:05 > 3:08:08way of this one. Look at how many yellow jerseys collapsed to the

3:08:08 > 3:08:14front of the net. When you are under siege, all hands and back. Everyone

3:08:14 > 3:08:22collapses and there is almost no shooting lanes to put it through.

3:08:22 > 3:08:31His brother, Niklas Kronwall has some big, heavy hits to his name

3:08:31 > 3:08:44over the course of his career. Niklas Kronwall, in his draft year,

3:08:44 > 3:08:50he played in the same team as one of your former team-mates, David Long

3:08:50 > 3:08:55stuff.

3:08:56 > 3:08:58stuff. They could have blown the whistle on this about five seconds

3:08:58 > 3:09:05ago.The referee will be aware of how many seconds were left in the

3:09:05 > 3:09:09period and thought we might as well just leave it there. I think both

3:09:09 > 3:09:15teams were content to wind that down. There was a little chuckle

3:09:15 > 3:09:20there from Jonas Gustavsson. Intriguing match between these two

3:09:20 > 3:09:24Scandinavian teams. After 20 minutes, Sweden looked a class

3:09:24 > 3:09:30above. They were 2-0 up, coasting and showboating a little bit at

3:09:30 > 3:09:35times. But Norway have re-established themselves in this

3:09:35 > 3:09:42game. We are set for an intriguing third. But at the end of the second,

3:09:42 > 3:09:48Sweden lead 2-0.

3:09:48 > 3:09:54It will be an intriguing third period and you can watch that on the

3:09:54 > 3:09:59red button from around 9:45am after the Biathlon. Today the weather has

3:09:59 > 3:10:02played ball, we have had an uninterrupted day at the Alpine

3:10:02 > 3:10:08Centre. I am joined by Graham Bell. It was a great day up there but it

3:10:08 > 3:10:12is dangerously to your predictions but you got the winner write today?

3:10:12 > 3:10:19Yes, I did picking the favourite is going to be easy. Mikaela Shiffrin

3:10:19 > 3:10:23has come here with huge billing and she has lived up to that today. You

3:10:23 > 3:10:28could see when she crossed the finish line, how much it meant to

3:10:28 > 3:10:40her.Everyone said she was favourite for this race, but I don't think so.

3:10:40 > 3:10:45I think this one was difficult for Mikaela Shiffrin and she was nervous

3:10:45 > 3:10:50going in. And to win it is a big boost. She puts a lot of pressure on

3:10:50 > 3:10:57herself and it seems to work. She trains like no one else I think. It

3:10:57 > 3:11:01is incredible, her training regime. She rises to the pressure she puts

3:11:01 > 3:11:07on herself? She has been doing this for so long, she raised her first

3:11:07 > 3:11:13World Cup at 15 and one the World Championships at 17. Went to the

3:11:13 > 3:11:19last Olympics and won the slalom in such a becoming the youngest ever

3:11:19 > 3:11:27gold medallist. Four years down the line she has added giant slalom and

3:11:27 > 3:11:32super-g to her repertoire. Going tomorrow she is the absolute

3:11:32 > 3:11:36favourite.She said she might not do the super-g, we're not sure how many

3:11:36 > 3:11:42she will eventually race. Nobody has won more than three Alpine gold

3:11:42 > 3:11:47medals at one Olympic Games. If it was you, do you go for them all and

3:11:47 > 3:11:50try to beat the record or do you give your body arrest and excel at

3:11:50 > 3:11:55the one you know you are good? She hasn't been helped with the

3:11:55 > 3:12:01programme being squashed.

3:12:01 > 3:12:04programme being squashed. It is three back-to-back. I am not sure

3:12:04 > 3:12:09she is down for gold medal in super-g, she is not going to beat

3:12:09 > 3:12:14Lindsey Vonn. She might think I have a chance of a bronze, but I can sit

3:12:14 > 3:12:21it out and make sure I get gold in the combined.History in the men's

3:12:21 > 3:12:24Downhill, Aksel Lund Svindal, 35 years old, incredible run from him

3:12:24 > 3:12:30considering how many injuries he has had?He is a double downhill

3:12:30 > 3:12:37champion but Norway have never won an Olympic downhill title. They were

3:12:37 > 3:12:41close in 1952, in Oslo. Steyn Erickson, didn't win that. For

3:12:41 > 3:12:47Norway to win the men's Downhill is massive. The Aksel Lund Svindal, it

3:12:47 > 3:12:51will probably be the end of his career. His knee is completely gone,

3:12:51 > 3:12:57he has struggled over the last two years, so I think this is the

3:12:57 > 3:13:04crowning glory of his career. If we look tomorrow, it is the women's

3:13:04 > 3:13:07slalom, Alex Tilley will be disappointed with today, looking to

3:13:07 > 3:13:12bounce back. What will they expect to do tomorrow? They need to get

3:13:12 > 3:13:21into the flip that the top 30. The 30th fastest races are flipped over

3:13:21 > 3:13:25the fastest run. It means you start early and then you can move up the

3:13:25 > 3:13:30field. They are capable of doing that and it will be a great results.

3:13:30 > 3:13:34Mikaela Shiffrin, can anybody challenge her tomorrow? She would

3:13:34 > 3:13:42either to make a massive mistake or there would be a meteoric strike.

3:13:42 > 3:13:47Let's hope that doesn't happen, we are heading over to BBC One where

3:13:47 > 3:13:50Clare Balding will take you through the rest of the day and look back on

3:13:50 > 3:13:57what has been a sensational day six, including one of my favourites, the

3:13:57 > 3:14:00adrenaline field Snowboard Cross. Have a good day and I will see you

3:14:00 > 3:14:03tomorrow.
