0:00:00 > 0:00:01Olympic Winter Games are about to come to a close. Let's join our

0:00:01 > 0:00:08commentators, Sir Matthew Pinsent and John Hunt.

0:00:08 > 0:00:16Thank you, balding, the final shots have been fired, 17 days of intense,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19edition giveaway to the traditional celebrations for two is Pyeongchang

0:00:19 > 0:00:27says goodbye, and Beijing is about to say hello in 2022. The counts

0:00:27 > 0:00:34down, much more likely, you may run under the more austere countdown

0:00:34 > 0:00:40ceremony with a bell, well, this represents the barn that is ahead as

0:00:40 > 0:00:45we and its 35,000 crowd countdown to one, and are expecting some fun

0:00:45 > 0:00:52tonight.I think it is going to be great, I am looking to the Gangnam

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Style, the crowd really getting involved, and of course the athletes

0:00:55 > 0:00:59when they come to say farewell. The accent very much on winter turning

0:00:59 > 0:01:03to spring and hope for the future, traditional themes, you will see

0:01:03 > 0:01:07plenty of them, but a key component of the night is youth, without a

0:01:07 > 0:01:12shadow of a doubt, acts aplenty from real youngsters tonight, talented,

0:01:12 > 0:01:19some as young as 11, and here, with more than a nod to the painters and

0:01:19 > 0:01:21decorators everywhere around the world, we get our first visual, and

0:01:21 > 0:01:33it is colourful, and it sets the tone for a lot of fun ahead.

0:02:16 > 0:02:23File appropriate in Korea, of course, skating very much the first

0:02:23 > 0:02:33centrepiece of the closing ceremony. -- highly appropriate.

0:03:34 > 0:03:42I think you can probably work out what is coming!

0:03:44 > 0:03:53CHEERING

0:03:55 > 0:04:00Robin Cousins told us at the opening ceremony how he loves a firework -

0:04:00 > 0:04:06well, I hope he is watching, we will see plenty of those.

0:04:06 > 0:04:17ANNOUNCER SPEAKS IN FRENCH

0:04:17 > 0:04:21Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the President of the Republic of

0:04:21 > 0:04:26Korea, Moon Jae-in, and the president of the International

0:04:26 > 0:04:32Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, Olympic champion, fencing 1976.A

0:04:32 > 0:04:36shake of the hand with Ivanka Trump, special guests here from North

0:04:36 > 0:04:42Korea, somewhat controversially, Tim Young Charl is also in attendance

0:04:42 > 0:04:47tonight.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57A theme we will come back to later in the ceremony, this joining of

0:04:57 > 0:05:08North and South is so important something that Pyeongchang has been

0:05:08 > 0:05:12able to put forward.Snow globes presented by two children born on

0:05:12 > 0:05:18the 7th of July 2011, the very day Pyeongchang learned that they had

0:05:18 > 0:05:25the games. And now the entrance of the Korean national flag.

0:05:46 > 0:05:59These children are students at two elementary schools.

0:06:01 > 0:06:0423 children, representative of the total number of Olympic Winter

0:06:04 > 0:06:10Games, including this one in Pyeongchang. We have seen so many of

0:06:10 > 0:06:21those happy, smiling young faces.

0:06:29 > 0:06:34The flag now handed over to the traditional guard of honour. We saw

0:06:34 > 0:06:40them plenty in the opening ceremony as well.

0:06:46 > 0:06:50as well.Ladies and gentlemen, please stand for the Korean national

0:06:50 > 0:07:01anthem, performed by Jang Sa-ik and our children's choir.

0:07:12 > 0:07:19# Donghae mulgwa baegdusan-i maleugo dalhdolog

0:08:07 > 0:08:15# Gil-i bojeonhase

0:08:32 > 0:08:37All of these schoolchildren dressed in traditional Korean colours, of

0:08:37 > 0:08:40course, the colours of the Korean flag. Now something to wake you up a

0:08:40 > 0:08:47little bit on a Sunday morning, this 13-year-old places unique variation

0:08:47 > 0:08:52on Window from

0:08:57 > 0:09:04on Window from Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

0:09:04 > 0:09:10Seasons. -- winter.

0:10:16 > 0:10:34And this is Korean post-rock mixed with traditional music, Jambinai.

0:13:56 > 0:14:01CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:14:04 > 0:14:10Ten past 11 on a Sunday morning, proper hangover cure, that one,

0:14:10 > 0:14:17wasn't it?! I am sure you get the gist of it by now, the modern and

0:14:17 > 0:14:23the traditional very much colliding here, as we enjoy some of the

0:14:23 > 0:14:29flashback memories from the Games before the parade of athletes.

0:14:31 > 0:14:36MUSIC PLAYS

0:14:58 > 0:15:05# Shine a light on the world.

0:15:19 > 0:15:28# Sync it to the world. # Everybody sing.

0:15:42 > 0:15:50# Let's clap our hands together.

0:15:50 > 0:15:57# Lets send this up together.

0:15:58 > 0:16:05# ANNOUNCER SPEAKS IN FRENCH. To the world.

0:16:24 > 0:16:30ANNOUNCER SPEAKS IN FRENCH.

0:16:30 > 0:16:38Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the flags of the delegations of the

0:16:38 > 0:16:452018 Winter Olympic Games. The flags and flag-bearers will come out en

0:16:45 > 0:16:54masse. Time now for families of any of the 58 who competed, sitting on

0:16:54 > 0:16:59the edge of their seat, desperate for a glimpse. Time to move closer

0:16:59 > 0:17:05to the TV for the next 20 minutes.I can see Billy

0:17:05 > 0:17:09to the TV for the next 20 minutes.I can see Billy Morgan. Went very big

0:17:09 > 0:17:13on big air and apparently went very big on a celebratory

0:17:13 > 0:17:16on big air and apparently went very big on a celebratory night out.Four

0:17:16 > 0:17:20years ago, apparently, on this night, he had a toilet seat around

0:17:20 > 0:17:25his head. So clearly on better behaviour tonight. What an honour.

0:17:25 > 0:17:31How will the other

0:17:31 > 0:17:34How will the other athletes revealing?Carrying the flag is a

0:17:34 > 0:17:40huge honour. It is not a formal procession. The idea is the opening

0:17:40 > 0:17:46ceremony, you walk as a country and represent your country. Whereas,

0:17:46 > 0:17:52after the games, you come in en masse. Competing athletes will come

0:17:52 > 0:17:59in and take their seats to watch the rest of the ceremony.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06ANNOUNCER SPEAKS IN FRENCH.

0:18:06 > 0:18:12ANNOUNCER SPEAKS IN FRENCH.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the athletes of the 23rd Olympic

0:18:17 > 0:18:25Winter Games.

0:18:31 > 0:18:39CHEERING

0:18:39 > 0:18:43A huge roar from the crowd. The first of the athletes come into

0:18:43 > 0:18:53the Mina. -- arena.

0:19:10 > 0:19:17A huge Canadian representation. What a games they had, Matthew. Tessa and

0:19:17 > 0:19:22Scott there big story in the absence of success from the hockey teams.I

0:19:22 > 0:19:30think the ice skating duo were a huge story back in Canada. They got

0:19:30 > 0:19:34an amazing gold medal. I have to feel for them a little bit because

0:19:34 > 0:19:40all they have been asked about since winning is, are you a couple? And

0:19:40 > 0:19:46they have had to say no a thousand times since.But

0:19:46 > 0:19:48they have had to say no a thousand times since. But it was amazing.

0:19:48 > 0:19:55Absolutely fantastic. Canada winning 11 gold medals and 29 all told.

0:19:55 > 0:20:01Third place on the overall medals table. The medal in the figure

0:20:01 > 0:20:05skating taking them past their previous record of 27 medals. The

0:20:05 > 0:20:16five-man team from Ireland go through. The Danish still struggling

0:20:16 > 0:20:23for medals. Extraordinary that, with Norway and Sweden doing so well.

0:20:23 > 0:20:27Denmark just cannot seem to get it together. It is very difficult to

0:20:27 > 0:20:35know. Every country will have a review of what they have done on the

0:20:35 > 0:20:45sporting field. And decide, can we do better? I have to say, this is

0:20:45 > 0:20:50not the normal format of a closing ceremony. They are being more

0:20:50 > 0:20:58grouped into countries. Yes, this is not normal. Pyeongchang doing

0:20:58 > 0:21:01something slightly different with controlling the flow and grouping

0:21:01 > 0:21:06countries together, which is not normal.I did not expect that. No,

0:21:06 > 0:21:13indeed.

0:21:13 > 0:21:21indeed. We will be seeing a successful Finn very shortly. There

0:21:21 > 0:21:32are two medal presentations tonight. Canada getting plenty of exposure.

0:21:32 > 0:21:38Kingsbury fantastic in the men's moguls.One sadness about this shot

0:21:38 > 0:21:45of the stadium is it looks as if the seats are empty. Those LED screens

0:21:45 > 0:21:52in every seat, while they are fantastic for the backdrop of flags,

0:21:52 > 0:21:58they slightly deprive the viewer of the idea

0:22:00 > 0:22:05the idea it is full.Interesting welcoming music.

0:22:05 > 0:22:09welcoming music. Almost without exception, Matthew, Joy across most

0:22:09 > 0:22:16faces.I think, if you are here, you have come for a good time. They are

0:22:16 > 0:22:22showing off! The people perhaps most disappointed by their experience,

0:22:22 > 0:22:28coming to the closing ceremony, will be the last thing they want to do.

0:22:28 > 0:22:33You have to say to yourself for a couple of hours, you have to join

0:22:33 > 0:22:38the party. It depends on when you compete. Not every athlete is here.

0:22:38 > 0:22:44Lizzy Yarnold is home by now, we know. Well done, again, if you are

0:22:44 > 0:22:52watching. So a fair proportion would have gone home. The majority of

0:22:52 > 0:22:58people who are still here, they will be here tonight. It is not

0:22:58 > 0:23:03compulsory, nor is the opening ceremony, of course. And it is

0:23:03 > 0:23:08nothing like as cold as some of the weather we have had. I think you can

0:23:08 > 0:23:13tell. There have been days when being outside without gloves would

0:23:13 > 0:23:19be unthinkable, whereas, tonight,

0:23:22 > 0:23:31be unthinkable, whereas, tonight, it is barmy. -- balmy.

0:23:31 > 0:23:38China just went through.

0:23:41 > 0:23:47An early bit of Gangnam Style. He has gone early.

0:24:07 > 0:24:13He is clearly their Billy Morgan.

0:24:41 > 0:24:56That is the Austrian team.A huge surprise early on in the games for

0:24:56 > 0:25:02them in the luge. And another surprise the athlete who fell away

0:25:02 > 0:25:14in the last run in the skeleton. Very difficult for her to take in.

0:25:14 > 0:25:22Marcel, two gold medals.He must've felt it was not going to happen.He

0:25:22 > 0:25:27had an average running on the circuit coming here. But, then,

0:25:27 > 0:25:31history is littered with people who either won a gold medal with no

0:25:31 > 0:25:38track record, or had all the ingredients and came to the Olympics

0:25:38 > 0:25:46and do not quite do it.Norway have entered the stage. Really gaining

0:25:46 > 0:25:53number one stock. The Germans have had a fantastic Olympic Games. But,

0:25:53 > 0:25:58Norway top of the shop. 14 gold medals and 39 medals all told. And

0:25:58 > 0:26:06the amazing statistic about Norway in 1988. They won zero gold medals.

0:26:06 > 0:26:16The trajectory of them from zero to the current day, this performance in

0:26:16 > 0:26:25Pyeongchang, fantastic.A lovely shot five, six athletes from

0:26:25 > 0:26:29different nations all dancing together. It really should all be

0:26:29 > 0:26:38this. Do you prefer this approach to the closing ceremony? The formulaic

0:26:38 > 0:26:43approach, or the bunfight of yesteryear? The bunfight had its

0:26:43 > 0:26:48moments. There was a Summer Olympics when Team GB were told not to turn

0:26:48 > 0:26:53up in uniform, they were so worried about our behaviour. The Japanese

0:26:53 > 0:26:58team. We will be in Tokyo before you know it for the summer games in

0:26:58 > 0:27:072020.

0:27:17 > 0:27:31The figure skating, a big draw for Japan. The athlete followed by a

0:27:31 > 0:27:35deluge of Winnie the Poohs. And they are gathered up and given away for

0:27:35 > 0:27:37charity, so it has to be a good thing.

0:28:04 > 0:28:09All of these nations clearly doing one circuit of the arena and then

0:28:09 > 0:28:15taking their seats. That is right. They come in and take seats. In the

0:28:15 > 0:28:21summer format, often the athletic Stadium, but this has been just for

0:28:21 > 0:28:29ceremonies, as it often is in winter.Flags going through.

0:28:33 > 0:28:39Frimpong, one of the stars of the games. And the United States, under

0:28:39 > 0:28:45fire about the lack of success, but everything is relative. They have

0:28:45 > 0:28:51won 23 medals in total, nine of them gold medals. It is supposed to be

0:28:51 > 0:29:00their worst return in almost two decades. They are saying, we will go

0:29:00 > 0:29:08home and recoup. We like the way that Norway performed. And we can

0:29:08 > 0:29:15see the Brits, behind the American team. Hopefully we will get a longer

0:29:15 > 0:29:20shot of them.

0:29:22 > 0:29:27shot of them.Chloe Kim was brilliant for the United States in

0:29:27 > 0:29:33the women's halfpipe. Red Gerard, an early medal. Looking like something

0:29:33 > 0:29:45out of Scooby-Doo. I think that is the skip of the curling, a

0:29:45 > 0:29:51successful men's team against Sweden.Switzerland, 15 medals, five

0:29:51 > 0:29:55of them gold medals.Here is Great Britain.

0:30:01 > 0:30:05I thought that might have been Laura Deas. Yes, there is Laura.

0:30:05 > 0:30:18Fantastic.One of the bobsleigh athletes. Laura there.

0:30:18 > 0:30:21athletes. Laura there. It is getting busier. Dom Parsons, proudly wearing

0:30:21 > 0:30:27his medal, as he should.

0:30:28 > 0:30:33Most an affected winner here or fortnight, I think, wasn't he, Dom?

0:30:33 > 0:30:37Seemed to take it completely in his stride.Nothing surprised him,

0:30:37 > 0:30:42certainly.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54Izzy Atkin, obviously, was amongst the British team as well, with a

0:30:54 > 0:31:00bronze medal in slopestyle, Billy Morgan carrying the flag as well.So

0:31:00 > 0:31:07this is the Germans in the red hats. That is obviously not the Germans!

0:31:07 > 0:31:16That is the Jamaicans, much talk about the...Women's bobsleigh. That

0:31:16 > 0:31:19is the Germans, and the Dutch behind them, I think, with their orange

0:31:19 > 0:31:28jackets. The Dutch brought 34 athletes, and more than half of them

0:31:28 > 0:31:35are going home with medals. Extraordinary. Ireen Wust, of

0:31:35 > 0:31:40course, brilliant again. And it is North and South Korea, once again

0:31:40 > 0:31:46coming in together.

0:31:49 > 0:31:50coming in together. And that white flag, with the old Korean Peninsula

0:31:50 > 0:31:58on it, that has become a much waved emblem of this Olympics, especially

0:31:58 > 0:32:02around women's ice hockey, of course, the one sport where they

0:32:02 > 0:32:08competed as a team. How strange did you find that whole experience,

0:32:08 > 0:32:12watching that team? Because they struggled badly. From a distance,

0:32:12 > 0:32:16did it look as though everyone was comfortable with it?Bodily enough,

0:32:16 > 0:32:22I think in prospect it didn't look great. -- funnily enough. It was

0:32:22 > 0:32:26done with weeks of notice, and I think that was upsetting to many of

0:32:26 > 0:32:32the team, the coach didn't speak positively about it to begin with,

0:32:32 > 0:32:38and then, actually, by the time they got to the Games, there was a lot

0:32:38 > 0:32:42more of a coordinated effort around them, and the only time during the

0:32:42 > 0:32:48Games when I saw people out on the streets, welcoming athletes buses,

0:32:48 > 0:32:53the Korean women's team was a huge emblem for the whole of Korea. That

0:32:53 > 0:33:00remarkable band of cheerleaders as well!

0:33:00 > 0:33:06well!Well, I found that uncomfortable, I've got to say. I

0:33:06 > 0:33:11saw them in venue, and it obviously looks dramatic, when you see them

0:33:11 > 0:33:18arrive, they have got policemen and security, cordoning them off. I

0:33:18 > 0:33:30struggled, I have to say.You are on your own there!

0:33:30 > 0:33:48Ivanka Trump with President Moon once again. The omnipresent

0:33:48 > 0:33:51once again. The omnipresent mascots there. And the Koreans, of course,

0:33:51 > 0:33:57did brilliantly at sliding. We saw them win just today, a joint silver

0:33:57 > 0:34:06medal in the four-man bob. Fantastic, wasn't a comedy gold

0:34:06 > 0:34:16medallist in the skeleton? -- fantastic, wasn't he, the gold

0:34:16 > 0:34:24medallist in the skeleton? And the curling, curling fever! The amount

0:34:24 > 0:34:28of restaurant or meals you would have, and the curling would be gone

0:34:28 > 0:34:35in the background.The

0:34:35 > 0:34:37in the background.The Garlic Girls proved very, very popular, didn't

0:34:37 > 0:34:47they? What a fortnight they had!

0:34:56 > 0:35:04There is Akwasi, talk about a man embracing his opportunity!

0:35:05 > 0:35:10embracing his opportunity!New Zealand, I'm sure.Yeah.Quick flash

0:35:10 > 0:35:14of New Zealand, I think they have won one gold medal at the Winter

0:35:14 > 0:35:18Olympics in their entire history, and two here, both of them

0:35:18 > 0:35:32teenagers.Quite some story, wasn't it? Zoi Sadowski-Synnott successful

0:35:32 > 0:35:37for New Zealand.

0:35:42 > 0:35:4616 years old, fantastic.

0:35:52 > 0:36:03The youngest athlete here was 15, from China, competed in the halfpipe

0:36:03 > 0:36:23skiing. This music is a bit Chas and Dave, isn't it?

0:36:25 > 0:36:32Just taking a little bit longer for the athletes to get seated.

0:36:48 > 0:36:55CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:37:07 > 0:37:10What was your highlight, Matt? If I had to pin you down, one moment of

0:37:10 > 0:37:15the Games?

0:37:16 > 0:37:20the Games?Well, I mean, it has got to be Lizzy

0:37:20 > 0:37:23the Games?Well, I mean, it has got to be Lizzy, hasn't it? That is

0:37:23 > 0:37:29perhaps a bit parochial. I think Ester Ledecka at the bottom of the

0:37:29 > 0:37:35ski run, where she one and stood there for two minutes standing

0:37:35 > 0:37:42staring at the timing, wonderful. The use of drones here, used so

0:37:42 > 0:37:46effectively in the opening ceremony.

0:37:46 > 0:37:52She has talked afterwards, surely the timing system was wrong, I

0:37:52 > 0:38:00cannot have won. It was interesting, how were colleagues didn't even show

0:38:00 > 0:38:08her run. I'm not going to say who it was, but perhaps not bothered about

0:38:08 > 0:38:12Czechs sums it up!

0:38:19 > 0:38:32Borrowed skis as well, the Ledecka, the first person to win gold in two

0:38:32 > 0:38:39different sports in the same Games. I should just say, as we watched

0:38:39 > 0:38:43this on a relatively still died, the dress rehearsal for the Games was

0:38:43 > 0:38:49wiped out because of high winds. -- relatively still night. They got it

0:38:49 > 0:38:54on but abandoned it shortly after halfway through.I think somewhere

0:38:54 > 0:39:00near us, there is a very nervous artistic director.

0:39:00 > 0:39:10ANNOUNCER SPEAKS IN FRENCH Ladies and gentlemen, the athletes!

0:39:10 > 0:39:15CHEERING

0:39:17 > 0:39:22So the flag bearing job is now done.

0:39:29 > 0:39:36Three gold medals each, including Ioannis Antoniou, another stunning

0:39:36 > 0:39:39highlight. Great aerial shots of the Pentagon. We will see that shape a

0:39:39 > 0:39:47little bit later on. This whole area you are looking down on just used to

0:39:47 > 0:39:53be an open athletics track. 15 years ago, there was a Korean barbecue

0:39:53 > 0:39:58around the corner, a photo from the air, quite astonishing, the

0:39:58 > 0:40:08development they have had here over the last ten years.

0:40:13 > 0:40:24So this next section is called A Journey to Remember.Indeed, in

0:40:24 > 0:40:32remember Insausti poles come, no longer with us, in memory of those

0:40:32 > 0:40:37who lost their lives recently. The dandelions are a symbol of new life,

0:40:37 > 0:40:43the seeds will blow away to grow again, and here the turtle

0:40:43 > 0:40:50reappears, as at the opening ceremony.

0:40:51 > 0:40:54ceremony. The total of Korea, who will embark on a journey across life

0:40:54 > 0:41:04and death, a symbolic creature in this country. A poignant two all

0:45:50 > 0:45:57mass start classic. We get a chance to see one of the icons, Marit

0:45:57 > 0:46:01Bjorgen, getting her gold medal. If you have not seen this race, go back

0:46:01 > 0:46:14and look. The style and dominance. And the margin by which she won.

0:46:14 > 0:46:22Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee.

0:46:29 > 0:46:37for the closing ceremony, the president takes the role.

0:46:45 > 0:46:54And the representative of the sport, the international skiing federation.

0:47:01 > 0:47:11Bronze medallist, Sweden. Stina Nilsson.

0:47:11 > 0:47:15Nilsson.Stina Nilsson, two silver medals and a bronze medal, I am

0:47:15 > 0:47:19sorry, a gold medal and two silver medals early in the games and now

0:47:19 > 0:47:26this bronze medal.

0:47:36 > 0:47:44Every medallist has received a wooden mountain relief made up of

0:47:44 > 0:47:51the traditional Korean alphabet.

0:47:51 > 0:48:05Silver medallist, Finland.Krista Parmakoski!

0:48:05 > 0:48:12Parmakoski!And Krista Parmakoski has produced the best performance by

0:48:12 > 0:48:20a Finn in this event in Winter Olympics history. I am sure she did

0:48:20 > 0:48:22her absolute best and is delighted with her silver medals.

0:48:26 > 0:48:35-- silver medal.

0:48:38 > 0:48:44But there was no denying the champion today.

0:48:45 > 0:48:50champion today. She is 37.Gold medallist and Olympic champion,

0:48:56 > 0:49:06Norway.Marit Bjorgen. She takes her lifetime Olympics medals collection

0:49:06 > 0:49:14to eight gold medals, four silver and three bronze medals.

0:49:14 > 0:49:23Everyone is expecting this to be her last appearance. She is the most

0:49:23 > 0:49:29successful Winter Olympian in history. She has a three-year-old

0:49:29 > 0:49:37son. There are wonderful pictures of her with her son. After the event

0:49:37 > 0:49:47today.

0:50:07 > 0:50:19Ladies and gentlemen, please stand for the national anthem of Norway.

0:50:21 > 0:50:29NORWEGIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

0:51:00 > 0:51:08NORWEGIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

0:51:17 > 0:51:27CHEERING

0:51:28 > 0:51:30Ladies and gentlemen, the Olympic medallists.

0:51:41 > 0:51:48What a moment for them. One of my small gripes is that medals are not

0:51:48 > 0:51:55presented at the time of victory. It is a strange position that we go off

0:51:55 > 0:52:02later, often in front of sparse crowds to receive the medal. That is

0:52:02 > 0:52:07becoming a Winter Olympic tradition, especially mountain venues, which

0:52:07 > 0:52:12can be far-flung. They now concentrate on the medal Plaza. We

0:52:12 > 0:52:22now see the men coming out for their ceremony. These ceremonies are, to

0:52:22 > 0:52:26me, the reallocated medals from previous Olympics, especially Sochi,

0:52:26 > 0:52:32they should be happening here. There is a part of me that feel sorry

0:52:32 > 0:52:41particularly for the British four-man bob. Two of whom are out

0:52:41 > 0:52:46here on duty because in the wake of Sochi, I think that should be

0:52:46 > 0:52:58happening now. Martins Dukurs should have another medal coming. Katie

0:52:58 > 0:53:02Uhlaender from America. For my money, in the aftermath of Russia

0:53:02 > 0:53:07and everything that went on in Sochi, part of it should be giving

0:53:07 > 0:53:11those medals to the rightful owners and it should be happening here, and

0:53:11 > 0:53:20it is not.You mentioned Sochi. I go back four years, the Russians with a

0:53:20 > 0:53:341-2- three and they were feted Miss ceremony. Someone caught up in that.

0:53:34 > 0:53:43With four years of hindsight, we know that. I am sure that Thomas

0:53:43 > 0:53:51Bach, as he puts the gold medal around the winner, Iivo Niskanen, if

0:53:51 > 0:54:02he is not saying it, he will be thinking, thank you that we had a

0:54:02 > 0:54:11Finnish winner rather than an that would be the Olympic anthem, in this

0:54:11 > 0:54:20instance,

0:54:20 > 0:54:29instance, for Bolshunov. This race happened yesterday.

0:54:29 > 0:54:33happened yesterday. Iivo Niskanen and Bolshunov went toe to toe.

0:54:33 > 0:54:44Classic cross-country skiing. For probably 48 of the kilometres. Iivo

0:54:44 > 0:54:54Niskanen using the last hill to kick away and win.Finland's only gold

0:54:54 > 0:55:02medal of the games.Anyone from sport, in Finland, who does well,

0:55:02 > 0:55:10they always call them the Flying Finn.

0:55:10 > 0:55:15Finn.That was a great race between the two of them.It is the

0:55:15 > 0:55:20archetypal test. In cross-country skiing.

0:55:21 > 0:55:24skiing.Ladies and gentlemen, please stand for the national anthem of

0:55:24 > 0:55:29Finland.

0:55:31 > 0:55:39FINNISH NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

0:56:22 > 0:56:29FINNISH NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS

0:56:36 > 0:56:43CHEERING He got a bit emotional there.

0:56:43 > 0:56:55He just got something in his eye, briefly! The Russians are still

0:56:55 > 0:56:58under the Olympic flag to nine. There have been conjecture down to

0:56:58 > 0:57:01the 11th hour whether the Russian flag would appear this evening. And

0:57:01 > 0:57:09the rumour is that the Olympic athletes of Russia entity will cease

0:57:09 > 0:57:15to exist sometime this week and Russia will be brought back into the

0:57:15 > 0:57:24Olympic family.

0:57:28 > 0:57:36Four fails test this week, one from Japan, two from Sweden and two from

0:57:36 > 0:57:42Russia.The logic has been that these have been individual cases,

0:57:42 > 0:57:50not the same strategy behind them we saw in Sochi four years ago.

0:57:57 > 0:58:05OK, this is the axis of new time. A combination of modern dance, new

0:58:05 > 0:58:11media art.

0:58:11 > 0:58:17media art. Perhaps as a public service announcement, if you do not

0:58:17 > 0:58:28like strob lighting, it might be the time to put the kettle one. A vortex

0:58:28 > 0:58:35disappearing in the middle of the stage.

1:03:11 > 1:03:17not here.Big cheer for the volunteers now, their

1:03:17 > 1:03:20representatives, Matt, there were 91,000 applicants to become

1:03:20 > 1:03:26volunteers here. Not all of them from Korea, we met some from far

1:03:26 > 1:03:32afield, America and Canada, and only 16,200 were awarded places here at

1:03:32 > 1:03:37the Games, but they have been cheerful, and dimes in the face of

1:03:37 > 1:03:43some pretty horrible weather, particularly at the beginning of the

1:03:43 > 1:03:49Games, and their parts cannot be overstated. It is the lifeblood of

1:03:49 > 1:03:52any modern Olympic Games, to keep everything moving, they have been

1:03:52 > 1:03:58wonderful here. How many times did we walk out of the Sliding Centre at

1:28:44 > 1:28:46of coming together right this time and right this place.

1:28:46 > 1:28:53Now we came here together again to say goodbye.

1:28:53 > 1:28:55"We never meet without parting."

1:28:55 > 1:28:59It means parting is always coming along with the meeting.

1:47:47 > 1:47:55# We got that power every time.

1:48:04 > 1:48:10# We got that power power.

1:48:10 > 1:48:15# We got that power power.

1:48:57 > 1:49:02That is EXO and they promised they would dedicate that Power to all the

1:49:02 > 1:49:06athletes who have taken part. At a press conference they were asked

1:49:06 > 1:49:10which athlete they were most looking forward to seeing and I am afraid we

1:49:10 > 1:49:16got eight blank faces. Awkward.

1:49:26 > 1:49:30Those of you with good memories will remember the five children from the

1:49:30 > 1:49:40opening ceremony.

1:49:40 > 1:49:50opening ceremony. They are now to be part of one of the final set pieces.

1:49:51 > 1:49:57Farewell From a Snowflake.

1:52:32 > 1:52:40MUSIC SLOWS

1:54:00 > 1:54:05Farewell From a Snowflake as the flame is extinguished. The games are

1:54:05 > 1:54:11over, all bar the party. Does it leave you feeling poignant, Matthew,

1:54:11 > 1:54:17or were you just content we have seen another really good games?I

1:54:17 > 1:54:25think Korea has done amazingly well and has been given the run-in they

1:54:25 > 1:54:30had politically. That was tricky. The reunification idea and I deal

1:54:30 > 1:54:36with the games with a joint team and flag, the ice hockey team, I thought

1:54:36 > 1:54:42that was a great idea and well executed. And we will keep a

1:54:42 > 1:54:48watching brief on news developments. Such a cherished part of their bed.

1:54:48 > 1:54:54I remember them bidding for the 2010 games and the idea for 17 days,

1:54:54 > 1:55:00joining together north and south, was important then and it has come

1:55:00 > 1:55:05to fruition here, during the games. If anything can be carried forward,

1:55:05 > 1:55:17that will be a huge win. I am wondering whether the athletes all

1:55:22 > 1:55:28-- or volunteers will make an appearance.Filling up to the sounds

1:55:28 > 1:55:40of DJ Raiden. His music has been included on albums of

1:55:40 > 1:55:46included on albums of famous artists such as David Guetta.

1:55:46 > 1:55:55Martin Garrix is another DJ scheduled to perform here, as the

1:55:55 > 1:56:02last stage now of the closing ceremony are all about the party.

1:56:02 > 1:56:10Movement now from the athletes' seats.

1:56:13 > 1:56:20I think Billy Morgan will be first up to dance. No, I think they have

1:56:20 > 1:56:31all been given white capes to cover their uniforms. Could that be right?

1:56:31 > 1:56:38Is that the volunteers? No, there are uniforms in amongst them. An

1:56:38 > 1:56:48orderly pitch invasion is going on.

1:57:25 > 1:57:30Memories of the The Who who brought the London games to an end.It is

1:57:30 > 1:57:34how each nation puts their own cultural stamp on it and at times

1:57:34 > 1:57:42you come to foreign games and think, I don't understand that bit. There

1:57:42 > 1:57:49must've been loads in the opening and closing ceremony in the UK that

1:57:49 > 1:57:56were totally impenetrable.I am pleased Thomas Bach's speech did not

1:57:56 > 1:58:05carry on too long in French.Your career was very good, I was

1:58:05 > 1:58:17impressed by that. The DJ has a huge following. His album Animals in the

1:58:17 > 1:58:22charts. He is the man with the responsibility of cranking up the

1:58:22 > 1:58:28tempo. Just reaching ten o'clock here. Now it is time to see who the

1:58:28 > 1:58:33best dancer is.

2:01:32 > 2:01:39# Diamonds in the dark

2:01:39 > 2:01:47# That is all we are

2:01:50 > 2:01:58# There is a change that is blowing

2:02:00 > 2:02:08# Just pick me up and never let me go

2:02:10 > 2:02:26# We don't need much as long as we're together

2:02:40 > 2:02:48# As long as we're together

2:03:13 > 2:03:16This concludes the closing ceremony...

2:03:16 > 2:03:25So, the fireworks beyond the Olympic Stadium in Pyeongchang, as the party

2:03:25 > 2:03:31is only just beginning. That was the closing ceremony at the end of a

2:03:31 > 2:03:34thrilling 17 days of sport. Matthew, your final thoughts as we say

2:03:34 > 2:03:39goodbye to a memorable occasion? The interesting step is the Olympic

2:03:39 > 2:03:47Games going on an Asian leg of a journey, Pyeongchang 2018, Tokyo

2:03:47 > 2:03:552020, and Beijing 2022. We have had four new offence here.

2:03:55 > 2:04:04There are rumours in -- new offence. There are rumours Nordic combined

2:04:04 > 2:04:10will have a women's event, the only sport in winter or summer which is

2:04:10 > 2:04:22only for men. Great to have that. And women's double luge will debut

2:04:22 > 2:04:31in Beijing 2022. I am looking forward to that.

2:04:32 > 2:04:39Generally, it has been a very solid effort, I think, Pyeongchang has set

2:04:39 > 2:04:44it up beautifully for the Paralympics, and we should say best

2:04:44 > 2:04:51of luck to ParalympicsGB as they complete their final few days of

2:04:51 > 2:04:56training and travel and come out here to compete, we will be watching

2:04:56 > 2:05:00and wishing the very best for you as well.

2:05:00 > 2:05:06One thing, whatever the problems that await this part of the world on

2:05:06 > 2:05:10the world map, here in this little corner of South Korea there has been

2:05:10 > 2:05:13nothing but warmth and feminists and a calm that has stretched from

2:05:13 > 2:05:22beginning to end -- warmth and friendliness.

2:05:22 > 2:05:27It starts on the 9th of March and if you are coming you will be in for a

2:05:27 > 2:05:36really good time.

2:05:48 > 2:05:54So, with great memories, Lizzy Yarnold's gold medal, Ester Ledecka

2:05:54 > 2:06:00was absolutely marvellous, Martin Fu card, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir

2:06:00 > 2:06:07danced into our hearts. Chloe Kim. Shaun White. They jumped the fun.

2:06:07 > 2:06:14Billy Morgan, Izzy Atkin, Laura Dees, we thank you all, thank you

2:06:14 > 2:06:23for watching this closing ceremony and the games.

2:06:24 > 2:06:30STUDIO: A fabulous fireworks display to close things, I suspect the

2:06:30 > 2:06:36athletes will continue partying. The XXIII Olympic -- Winter Olympics

2:06:36 > 2:06:40are officially over.

2:06:40 > 2:06:43A wonderful closing ceremony full of music, dance and culture.

2:06:43 > 2:06:45Pyeongchang will be judged on hosting a Games which gave out

2:06:45 > 2:06:48103 medals which saw records tumble for individuals and Great Britain

2:06:48 > 2:06:50taking winning five medals their best performance in any Winter

2:06:50 > 2:06:52Games.

2:06:52 > 2:06:54As we saw in the ceremony, the 24th Winter Games

2:06:54 > 2:06:56will be held in Beijing, the Olympic city which hosted

2:06:56 > 2:07:03the 2008 Summer Games is only 680 miles away from Pyeongchang.

2:07:03 > 2:07:07And a date for your long-term diary is that they will be held

2:07:07 > 2:07:10between February 4th and February 20, 2022.

2:07:10 > 2:07:12That's just 1,441 days away!

2:07:12 > 2:07:15So, as we say farewell to the Winter Olympics,

2:07:15 > 2:07:23the sport on the BBC in 2018 just keeps on coming.

2:07:35 > 2:07:41COMMENTATOR: This is a superb performance.

2:07:45 > 2:07:48What a champion at Wimbledon.

2:07:53 > 2:07:54This is it, the pinnacle.

2:07:59 > 2:08:02And closer to home, the sport continues at two o'clock on BBC Two,

2:08:02 > 2:08:03after we've said goodbye here.

2:08:03 > 2:08:06Some of the top track and field athletes in the world will be

2:08:06 > 2:08:08in action at the Glasgow Grand Prix.

2:08:08 > 2:08:11Gabby Logan and the team will be live for a busy afternoon

2:08:11 > 2:08:13which will see the likes of Dina Asher Smith,

2:08:13 > 2:08:15Dafne Schippers, Adam Gemili all in action.

2:08:15 > 2:08:16Then, on Thursday, the athletics continues

2:08:16 > 2:08:19as the World Indoor Championships will be held here in

2:08:20 > 2:08:22with the coverage starting on Thursday evening

2:08:22 > 2:08:25which will see Laura Muir going for 3000 metres gold.

2:08:25 > 2:08:27Over the four days, Gabby will be joined by all our regular team

2:08:27 > 2:08:29members plus Michael Johnson and Jessica Ennis-Hill.

2:08:29 > 2:08:32Steve Cram after his long stint in the curling commentary box

2:08:32 > 2:08:36will also be back for that.

2:08:36 > 2:08:40And just to say, the major events come thick and fast.

2:08:40 > 2:08:43And in just 38 days' time, many of us will be back 24/7

2:08:43 > 2:08:46with the Commonwealth Games from Australia's Gold Coast.

2:08:47 > 2:08:49We'll have full coverage across all our platforms

2:08:49 > 2:08:51including TV, radio, online, the app and our

2:08:51 > 2:08:52social media platforms.

2:08:52 > 2:08:54That should be a great event as always, as Glasgow

2:08:54 > 2:09:01proved four years ago.

2:09:01 > 2:09:03proved four years ago.

2:09:03 > 2:09:11Nicola Minichiello joins us along with Dame Katherine Grainger. Amy

2:09:11 > 2:09:17Williams and Shami are still with me. And reflecting on your overall

2:09:17 > 2:09:22thoughts of the British team performance?

2:09:22 > 2:09:27I was there for the first ten days. Those first few days when you are

2:09:27 > 2:09:33waiting for the results. I think Team GB did a brilliant job. Within

2:09:33 > 2:09:39every team there are some outstanding experiences you don't

2:09:39 > 2:09:44expect to see. And some heartbreak which is what sport is.

2:09:44 > 2:09:49We saw Billy Morgan carrying the flag in the closing ceremony, a

2:09:49 > 2:09:56great honour for him. He is such a guy it is difficult for him to

2:09:56 > 2:10:02integrate into the establishment, so he wanted to do things his own way.

2:10:02 > 2:10:08As the team come in. We saw Laura Dees with her bronze medal,

2:10:08 > 2:10:10fantastic performance. But Billy Morgan decided he would

2:10:10 > 2:10:15show off his artistic qualities and therefore decided to balance the

2:10:15 > 2:10:26flag on his chin, as only he can! The Games, the Winter Olympics have

2:10:26 > 2:10:34got this field of being a bit looser than the summer games, is that fair?

2:10:34 > 2:10:39You feel that when you are out there, there is a lot of fun,

2:10:39 > 2:10:48freedom, people are more expressive. It has a different sense of

2:10:48 > 2:10:53experience. The closing ceremony reflected that,

2:10:53 > 2:10:58Thomas Bach Zing ball nations competing here than ever before, he

2:10:58 > 2:11:02called it the Games of New Horizons, saying the athletes themselves are

2:11:02 > 2:11:09the best ambassadors. It is always a party, you must have enjoyed a few

2:11:09 > 2:11:12closing ceremonies. Actually I never went to a closing

2:11:12 > 2:11:20ceremony, for alpine skiing, the World Cup tour continues straight

2:11:20 > 2:11:23afterwards so I had to head onto a plane.

2:11:23 > 2:11:28So you still have World Cup races after the Olympics. For us, the

2:11:28 > 2:11:31Olympic Games is the end of your competition.

2:11:31 > 2:11:36It is hard to deal with psychologically, it is the biggest

2:11:36 > 2:11:42event, but then you have the World Cup tour in alpine skiing.

2:11:42 > 2:11:49It goes on and on.You have carried the flag at the closing ceremony in

2:11:49 > 2:11:52Vancouver. Just a magical experience, it is

2:11:52 > 2:11:57very emotional, you know everyone is watching. A lovely feeling you have

2:11:57 > 2:12:01been picked to be the flag bearer, and the responsibility of holding

2:12:01 > 2:12:07the union Jack flag, you don't want to do anything wrong. There is a

2:12:07 > 2:12:13huge party atmosphere. Yes, I have been to the Olympics, and that

2:12:13 > 2:12:20feeling of pride of being part of a massive family. People are swapping

2:12:20 > 2:12:27kit. You might have already made secret deals!

2:12:27 > 2:12:33It is a free for all. I love that shot of all the athletes

2:12:33 > 2:12:43representing the different nations, Tonga with our bare-chested friend!

2:12:43 > 2:12:47Nicola, the inclusion of Nigeria competing in bobsleigh for the first

2:12:47 > 2:12:52time. You are getting that flavour of different nations, it is not just

2:12:52 > 2:12:56for North America and Europe. Absolutely, you don't have to be

2:12:56 > 2:13:02from an alpine nation to compete in the Winter Olympics. It captures a

2:13:02 > 2:13:06slightly different audience and athlete. The summer Olympics is

2:13:06 > 2:13:15slightly different. Here, there are so many more dynamics, the highs and

2:13:15 > 2:13:20lows, the fear of breaking your neck, the artistic element. A really

2:13:20 > 2:13:26different feeling. The fact we have so much inclusion, African nations

2:13:26 > 2:13:30competing, it is such a huge progression.

2:13:30 > 2:13:37They are having to balance things up, Nordic combined, allowing women

2:13:37 > 2:13:42to compete. Still some events like the four-man bob, could we see four

2:13:42 > 2:13:47women? Absolutely, as the blue riband and

2:13:47 > 2:13:53event of sliding sports. It is amazing having gender neutral so men

2:13:53 > 2:14:04and women can complete -- together. Not just for progression and

2:14:04 > 2:14:09equality, but we have to have equality in gender, therefore we

2:14:09 > 2:14:20need full woman participation. Big air providing Great Britain with

2:14:20 > 2:14:23a record-breaking fifth medal thanks to Billy Morgan which is why he was

2:14:23 > 2:14:30given the honour of carrying the flag and banners -- balancing it on

2:14:30 > 2:14:37his chin! Those who came before him produced

2:14:37 > 2:14:41medals in the most successful 36 hours Team GB has ever had at a

2:14:41 > 2:14:41Winter Olympics.

2:14:47 > 2:14:53Medals decided in the next couple of hours in what is a vital morning for

2:14:53 > 2:14:59British sport. Dom Parsons next. The equation is simple, if his time goes

2:14:59 > 2:15:03green, he is in good shape. Is this the wrong that will get Great

2:15:03 > 2:15:09Britain their first Olympic medal of these are Limpopo -- of these Winter

2:15:09 > 2:15:16Olympics?No! Dom Parsons may be just about to agonisingly missed

2:15:16 > 2:15:21out!

2:15:22 > 2:15:29out! Now, who knows, Parsons might just be back in the medal race. That

2:15:29 > 2:15:33was a mistake! A big mistake he's never made before.Starting to drop

2:15:33 > 2:15:44off.How far will he dropped off? Five hundredths of a second! Yes!

2:15:44 > 2:15:52Parsons unbelievably has his medal! Come all, Great Britain!

2:15:52 > 2:15:57This is the biggest day so far in these Games for the British team.We

2:15:57 > 2:16:04hand over to our commentary duo.

2:16:05 > 2:16:12Isabel Atkin, what has she got in her run? Biggest run of her life

2:16:12 > 2:16:26starts now.Come on, Lizzy Atkin, -- Izzy Atkin, final jump. Must try to

2:16:26 > 2:16:31remain impartial. It's third-place! Ladies and gentlemen, Great

2:16:31 > 2:16:35Britain's Izzy Atkin takes the bronze.

2:16:35 > 2:16:41You are a history maker, how do you feel?Amazing, hasn't settled in but

2:16:41 > 2:16:50I am really proud. Today, it is all about the sliding.

2:16:50 > 2:16:57A warm welcome to the Sliding Centre ahead of the women's skeleton. Lizzy

2:16:57 > 2:17:03Yarnold is just off the lead. Not separated by much at the line. Laura

2:17:03 > 2:17:10in fourth place. Now we come to the potential medallists.Hold it

2:17:10 > 2:17:19together...Laura Deas goes next for Great Britain.

2:17:21 > 2:17:24Great Britain. Lizzy Yarnold next, the Olympic champion, can she make

2:17:24 > 2:17:30history and win it again?Look at the gap! This could be at least

2:17:30 > 2:17:36silver for Lizzy Yarnold! She goes to the front! That is a gold-medal

2:17:36 > 2:17:45winning run, I am sure of it.Janine Flock needs the run of her 28 years.

2:17:45 > 2:17:52Time is dropping away.Looks like Lizzy Yarnold will win gold again.

2:17:52 > 2:18:02Janine Flock goes Forth! Yarnold wins gold again! Laura Deas has won

2:18:02 > 2:18:09bronze as well. A great day for Britain at the Winter Olympics.

2:18:21 > 2:18:24Is it still real?

2:18:32 > 2:18:37With each minute, it becomes more of a reality. It is a relief it all

2:18:37 > 2:18:42went to plan.I could barely look at the screen, I was so nervous. I had

2:18:42 > 2:18:47one eye on the numbers. It is still sinking in.When I have the medal in

2:18:47 > 2:18:56my hand, then it will be absolutely real.

2:19:02 > 2:19:12I just saw the number one... Thank you.

2:19:15 > 2:19:25OK, one minute on V T.

2:19:25 > 2:19:26OK, one minute on V T. Clink those medals together. Here

2:19:26 > 2:19:32they are, the five bringing medals home from PyeongChang, Lizzy Yarnold

2:19:32 > 2:19:39the first to defend a title and become a double Winter Olympics gold

2:19:39 > 2:19:44medallist, Laura Deas joining her on the podium. Dom Parsons with the

2:19:44 > 2:19:49first medal for a man in skeleton for 70 years. Izzy Atkin the

2:19:49 > 2:19:53youngest member of the team bringing one home in women's skis slopestyle.

2:19:53 > 2:19:57And the first time Big Air has been included in the Games, Billy

2:19:57 > 2:19:59And the first time Big Air has been included in the Games, Billy Morgan

2:19:59 > 2:20:04bringing home a bronze medal. Packed into that 36 hours when the four of

2:20:04 > 2:20:10them won four medals was Elise Christie and at the time we hoped

2:20:10 > 2:20:16she was going to win a first Olympic medal. It ended in incredibly

2:20:16 > 2:20:23painful scenes, literally and, indeed, physically and mentally. It

2:20:23 > 2:20:29has been another Games of way over for her. The way we look after our

2:20:29 > 2:20:33athletes is a major concern of yours, which is a major concern of

2:20:33 > 2:20:41yours. What do you want to see with Elise in the next few years? She has

2:20:41 > 2:20:46a fabulous team around her. She has been through a similar situation

2:20:46 > 2:20:49four years ago at the previous Winter Games where she was

2:20:49 > 2:20:52considered one of the favourites for the three events and was

2:20:52 > 2:20:57disqualified each time. None of us have been in that situation, you

2:20:57 > 2:21:01can't imagine what it feels like. There was awareness in her team

2:21:01 > 2:21:09around her that she had to be looked after physically and mentally

2:21:09 > 2:21:13because you need to be on your game when it comes to the Olympic Games,

2:21:13 > 2:21:18that is such a key moment. Even if you are physically fit and the

2:21:18 > 2:21:24favourite, it is still a huge pressure moment. So, when you have a

2:21:24 > 2:21:28new history traumatic experiences, everyone is aware that needs to be

2:21:28 > 2:21:33done. You can't rule out there won't be some impact but everything is in

2:21:33 > 2:21:37place so that athlete will deal with that in that situation. I think they

2:21:37 > 2:21:42did a great job. It is hard. I was there for her 500 metres and 1500

2:21:42 > 2:21:48metre event, and it is hard enough to see the pictures but when you see

2:21:48 > 2:21:53it live, it is tough. We all buy into it, sport will do it, it can be

2:21:53 > 2:21:57the greatest moment in your life and the most heartbreaking moment and

2:21:57 > 2:22:03you accept that comes with the gig. There are no guarantees but it is

2:22:03 > 2:22:06difficult to see someone go through that time and time again. It will be

2:22:06 > 2:22:11such a test of her character, her mental resilience, to see if she can

2:22:11 > 2:22:17in four years' time put this right. It remains her burning ambition, the

2:22:17 > 2:22:21drive is there, there is still massive unfinished business. Yes,

2:22:21 > 2:22:27she finished fourth, she finished a final at the Olympics, but, oh my

2:22:27 > 2:22:33word, she will feel this has to get better. It has been great to see her

2:22:33 > 2:22:39post interviews, see her resilience, and her personality shine through,

2:22:39 > 2:22:45she is so positive, and fourth is still incredible. Yes, she wanted

2:22:45 > 2:22:49medals, and she went for it, she fought for it and wanted nothing

2:22:49 > 2:22:54less than a gold. To now see her so positive so early on and so seemed

2:22:54 > 2:22:59that she is already looking forward four years. The sports go through

2:22:59 > 2:23:03huge review processes. They go through everything with a fine tooth

2:23:03 > 2:23:11comb. For her to already have her sights will she do long track,

2:23:11 > 2:23:15short-track, what is she going to do, it is a great thing and it shows

2:23:15 > 2:23:21how strong she is internally.Do you think, as an athlete, the way the

2:23:21 > 2:23:25funding mechanism works, when you went out there to ski, you funded

2:23:25 > 2:23:30yourself, you were skiing for you, yes, for Team GB. If you had in the

2:23:30 > 2:23:38back of your head my finishing position will impact every other

2:23:38 > 2:23:41person in my team, is that not a lock to carry with you?Short-track

2:23:41 > 2:23:47speed skating is so dynamic, it is such a battle. That won't be going

2:23:47 > 2:23:53through your head. You do feel pressure. In Vancouver, our

2:23:53 > 2:23:57federation went bankrupt and I got a mystery donation to get there and

2:23:57 > 2:24:01when I was there, they said if you perform, we will be able to put in a

2:24:01 > 2:24:06programme for the next four years. I wasn't strong enough, I wasn't a

2:24:06 > 2:24:13world champion and played on me. But I over tried when you tried to push

2:24:13 > 2:24:18too far, it goes terribly. And it plays in your head but at the same

2:24:18 > 2:24:24time she is triple world champion. Short-track and the associations

2:24:24 > 2:24:27with it have to look at that and say we have proved we can do it. It

2:24:27 > 2:24:34didn't happen in the Olympics, it fell apart, she came fourth, and

2:24:34 > 2:24:39others have potential and there will be a pathway. We will talk about how

2:24:39 > 2:24:42funding might change and what your thoughts are after this piece from

2:24:42 > 2:24:44Paddy Geary.

2:24:44 > 2:24:52This was the flip that did the trick.

2:24:52 > 2:24:54Billy Morgan's bronze was Britain's fifth medal of the Games.

2:24:54 > 2:25:00It meant they'd hit their target and broken a record.

2:25:00 > 2:25:03The most medals this country has ever managed at a Winter Olympics.

2:25:03 > 2:25:06It's come with hard work but also lots of hard cash.

2:25:06 > 2:25:11The body which allocates elite sport funding, UK Sport,

2:25:11 > 2:25:14put a record £28 million into winter sports in the four years

2:25:14 > 2:25:16running up to these Games.

2:25:16 > 2:25:22That works out five points £6 million a medal. That is how medals

2:25:22 > 2:25:26matter. That's how they work out how they get the money. Lizzy Yarnold,

2:25:26 > 2:25:31guided from heptathlon to skeleton thanks to UK sport ski. When she

2:25:31 > 2:25:37showed potential, they funded her. Gold followed in Sochi.Lizzy

2:25:37 > 2:25:43Yarnold is the Olympic champion, oh my goodness! They stepped up their

2:25:43 > 2:25:49funding to £6.5 million.That is a gold-medal winning run! We are

2:25:49 > 2:25:54looking at a two-time Olympic champion!It is a former that has

2:25:54 > 2:26:00helped British sport rise from 36 to second in Rio, and has led to

2:26:00 > 2:26:05unprecedented success in this Winter Olympics but sport doesn't always do

2:26:05 > 2:26:09predictable outcomes. Short-track speed skating is the standout

2:26:09 > 2:26:13example. Elise Christie was a triple world champion so her sport got more

2:26:13 > 2:26:17than four points £7 million to deliver a medal. But you can't bank

2:26:17 > 2:26:23on bad luck and slip-ups. Winter Games are uncertain terrain.

2:26:23 > 2:26:26Meanwhile, sports like ice hockey and Luge don't get any sports money

2:26:26 > 2:26:31because medals are thought to be out of reach. Should medals be our only

2:26:31 > 2:26:35guiding light? Some want more money redirected to recreational sports

2:26:35 > 2:26:44like basketball. The old-fashioned way was to fund yourself, which is

2:26:44 > 2:26:51what Mica Moore and Mica McNeill did.Nobody has been eighth at

2:26:51 > 2:26:55Olympic Games but these two have claimed that position! What a Games

2:26:55 > 2:26:59for the pair who were only here because of the generosity of the

2:26:59 > 2:27:03British public. They used crowdfunding to help them get to

2:27:03 > 2:27:06PyeongChang and finished eighth, better than their male counterparts

2:27:06 > 2:27:11who are funded. What could have they achieved with proper backing? Their

2:27:11 > 2:27:14performance made some statement and begged a question about how we fund

2:27:14 > 2:27:18our sports.

2:27:18 > 2:27:23He is the question. What needs to happen between now and Beijing,

2:27:23 > 2:27:27particularly in bobsleigh? There has got to be a massive review. How was

2:27:27 > 2:27:36it able to get to this point? We know the money was not not there. It

2:27:36 > 2:27:40was misspent, mismanaged, and we have all of the stories coming out

2:27:40 > 2:27:42about the toxic culture and everything that happened to those

2:27:42 > 2:27:47athletes. This is not a reflection on the athletes, it is about what

2:27:47 > 2:27:52went wrong in the organisations. The two Olympic cycles, not just one.

2:27:52 > 2:27:56How did we get to that stage where we got through eight tears and at

2:27:56 > 2:28:00this point we are asking questions about what actually happened? The

2:28:00 > 2:28:03performances are a result of the mismanagement so now it's got to be

2:28:03 > 2:28:07how do we put this forward? We can take so many examples from other

2:28:07 > 2:28:12sports within the UK, from other sports from outside the UK and make

2:28:12 > 2:28:18it right. It isn't always a difficult combination. Luck plays a

2:28:18 > 2:28:23part but in bobsleigh it is numbers, it is quite specific. You have the

2:28:23 > 2:28:27right equipment, you have enough runs and athletes, you can win

2:28:27 > 2:28:32medals and skeleton have proven it. Surely you don't make a decision to

2:28:32 > 2:28:35stop funding the team that can actually perform the best at the

2:28:35 > 2:28:40Games.Even that was another decision, more nails in the cough

2:28:40 > 2:28:44because at that point to make the decision we can fund three men's

2:28:44 > 2:28:51teams but we can't find women's programme, it doesn't make sense,

2:28:51 > 2:28:56when Mica was the reigning champion. It was the final nail in the coffin,

2:28:56 > 2:29:00not the decision that made it, it was another crazy decision. You

2:29:00 > 2:29:06think they are a team capable of winning a medal and even a gold.

2:29:06 > 2:29:13Katherine you can't solve all of the problems but how do you think you

2:29:13 > 2:29:16can improve the cross-fertilisation between sports of sharing

2:29:16 > 2:29:21information? Even skeleton bob, which you think would be the same

2:29:21 > 2:29:24thing, saying things will work, same federation, even they don't share

2:29:24 > 2:29:30what they know.It is like everything. A lot of these things

2:29:30 > 2:29:34are about relationships between people so every sport will have a

2:29:34 > 2:29:36performance director who oversees the decisions. We have seen it in

2:29:36 > 2:29:43rowing. We had that relationship with a cycling team. If the sports

2:29:43 > 2:29:47directors are in touch, even informally, get together, Greater

2:29:47 > 2:29:55Manchester, Bath, wherever they are, most sports are open. It is

2:29:55 > 2:29:58interesting to see how the training system works, where it is

2:29:58 > 2:30:02centralised, what the structure of each day is, there is so much sports

2:30:02 > 2:30:07learn from each other and the best coaches I've ever worked with are

2:30:07 > 2:30:11constantly hungry for information, they want to learn. No one thinks

2:30:11 > 2:30:17they have got it right and they can sit back.Even formally, but even

2:30:17 > 2:30:23with the science and the investment with technology, that shouldn't go

2:30:23 > 2:30:29into one spot at a time, should it? It doesn't. Things like these

2:30:29 > 2:30:33skeleton racing suits was influenced by the cycling racing suits.

2:30:33 > 2:30:42Institute of sport, they feed in...

2:30:43 > 2:30:51Those suits could have been used in alpine skiing.Yes. I don't know why

2:30:51 > 2:30:54there isn't that sharing of information.

2:30:54 > 2:30:58I think there is to an extent already.

2:30:58 > 2:31:04And how can we develop it? After Vancouver I chatted with the British

2:31:04 > 2:31:10sailing team, before thank you, one of their team spoke to us. We shared

2:31:10 > 2:31:18a lot between saving and discounting -- sailing and skeleton. A strange

2:31:18 > 2:31:27relationship we had. We knew our sport had to bring a medal home for

2:31:27 > 2:31:35funding and get the next generation coming through. If you can share

2:31:35 > 2:31:40information and help each other's performances, and I hope skeleton

2:31:40 > 2:31:47and bobsleigh can work together, and luge. It is all based in Bath. Using

2:31:47 > 2:31:54the same formulations and link across. If you look at a country

2:31:54 > 2:31:59like Germany, they really failed in bobsleigh four years ago but here

2:31:59 > 2:32:05they are with their best total ever medals, finishing second narrowly in

2:32:05 > 2:32:15the table. They have transformed the sports they targeted. In sliding

2:32:15 > 2:32:25sports alone, in Sochi they had a disaster. In four years, they looked

2:32:25 > 2:32:29at what worked for them, they changed the equipment, staff, the

2:32:29 > 2:32:35structure and refocused and have come back now and have won medals.

2:32:35 > 2:32:47To man, four man, it is not difficult. -- two-man.

2:32:47 > 2:32:52What Friedrich did was go back to kick he had used before.

2:32:52 > 2:32:58Yes, he said, it is not working for me. He went from having no medals to

2:32:58 > 2:33:02bringing home two gold medals and three silver medals. He went back to

2:33:02 > 2:33:08the kit that worked the him. It is about confidence in your equipment,

2:33:08 > 2:33:14you have to become one being. That is where it becomes

2:33:14 > 2:33:18embarrassing for British bobsleigh with an underperformance from the

2:33:18 > 2:33:23teams, but where the runners are deemed illegal, a basic bit of kit,

2:33:23 > 2:33:28they are asking other teams to borrow.

2:33:28 > 2:33:33I don't want this to be a reflection on the athletes who have worked so

2:33:33 > 2:33:38hard and are incredibly talented. How did we get to this point? If you

2:33:38 > 2:33:44have a set of banners, make sure you have a back-up.

2:33:44 > 2:33:54Other countries do it difficult -- differently. -- runners.

2:33:54 > 2:34:01I think the reward should be the medal, that is why you are doing it.

2:34:01 > 2:34:06Some countries, the nations with the lowest GDP have the highest pay-out,

2:34:06 > 2:34:12Kazakhstan at the top, then Italy they offer 150,000 euros for a gold

2:34:12 > 2:34:23medal. 142,000 for a gold medal. They used to give a house and a car

2:34:23 > 2:34:28with it. They were on the podium next to you

2:34:28 > 2:34:35asking how much you got. Yes, the German goals, we walked

2:34:35 > 2:34:42off, the German girls, how much money do you get? What do you mean?

2:34:42 > 2:34:50We get £30,000. We don't get anything. To me, money

2:34:50 > 2:34:56is nothing to do with it. Most of us come out of it in debt. You are

2:34:56 > 2:35:03doing it to win. It was interesting that I never knew people gave money.

2:35:03 > 2:35:08Britain, Sweden and Norway are the only three that don't pay out.

2:35:08 > 2:35:16Norway are the most successful. Germany paid 20,000 euros.

2:35:16 > 2:35:21If we look at the way funding is split in this country, it is

2:35:21 > 2:35:28important to emphasise not a lot goes to the athlete, they have

2:35:28 > 2:35:35relatively modest costings even to them.

2:35:43 > 2:35:55Skiing and snowboarding, £5.1 million, skeleton, £6.5 million.

2:35:55 > 2:36:02million, skeleton, £6.5 million. The target their was a pretty broad tent

2:36:02 > 2:36:07medals, that is the difficulty, a couple of fourth place finishes. If

2:36:07 > 2:36:13you look at Woodsy, Eve Muirhead.

2:36:13 > 2:36:22And also Elise Christie. She nearly won a medal. It is a difficult thing

2:36:22 > 2:36:28to predict. What is the value for money and

2:36:28 > 2:36:31those who say we shouldn't be funding winter sports, what do you

2:36:31 > 2:36:36think? What has been great is off the back

2:36:36 > 2:36:41of it we have seen phenomenal sport internationally. From the people I

2:36:41 > 2:36:46have spoken to, there is a real interest from the British public.

2:36:46 > 2:36:53People like to see us successful. If we look back to the previous

2:36:53 > 2:37:00Olympics and the criticism. A lot of investment has gone in. We have seen

2:37:00 > 2:37:10success. Now there is criticism about giving too much to it. What

2:37:10 > 2:37:16does everyone want? What is best for the country? We have all been part

2:37:16 > 2:37:20of an Olympic Games. There is an amazing reaction from people who

2:37:20 > 2:37:28watch, whether they love sport ordered for the sport, for those two

2:37:28 > 2:37:36weeks. -- whether they love sport or follow sport or not.

2:37:36 > 2:37:44People may feel inspired. When you try to put a number on is it worth

2:37:44 > 2:37:52the values we see, it is so much more, dedicated. -- more

2:37:52 > 2:37:57complicated. The money you are seeing is buying into a whole system

2:37:57 > 2:38:04of sport in the country. We see it in videos of what people

2:38:04 > 2:38:08are trying at home. But at a deeper level the understanding you can

2:38:08 > 2:38:16still achieve even if there aren't mountains outside the window.

2:38:16 > 2:38:22Yes, it is not about racing down a hill but about that inspiration

2:38:22 > 2:38:29actually, they can do that, how can I overcome those barriers in my

2:38:29 > 2:38:38life? It is about allowing people to dream, the opportunity to aspire to

2:38:38 > 2:38:44do something different. When you are out there, how much

2:38:44 > 2:38:47opportunity do you get to talk to others who run different funding

2:38:47 > 2:38:52models? There are a lot of connections

2:38:52 > 2:38:58across the different nations, people willing to share. Within Britain we

2:38:58 > 2:39:10are seen as having a huge interest. We have seen fast-growing success.

2:39:10 > 2:39:18There is much interest in us. Since I started, my first Olympics were in

2:39:18 > 2:39:23Sydney, the British model was modelled on the Australian system.

2:39:23 > 2:39:33Now they are coming to us and learning the lessons back. Within

2:39:33 > 2:39:39this country it is how ambitious we can keep being in a healthy way.

2:39:39 > 2:39:46Going back to inspiring other people, it has been a good Games for

2:39:46 > 2:39:50female athletes from Great Britain. Two who didn't win a medal but

2:39:50 > 2:39:55became the most successful British bobsleigh pet in terms of women

2:39:55 > 2:40:00competing, Nicola was thrilled to see them, Mica McNeill and Mica

2:40:00 > 2:40:05Moore. COMMENTATOR: It has been quite

2:40:10 > 2:40:13£50,000 was raised to enable them to be here. Starting off in eighth

2:40:13 > 2:40:18place. If they can get anywhere near 5.50

2:40:18 > 2:40:22as a start that would give them a really good opportunity. Then it is

2:40:22 > 2:40:28about avoiding mistakes. This is where niche needs to be

2:40:28 > 2:40:33clean through here. Misha has been perfect this track. She needs to

2:40:33 > 2:40:45dial in especially get this right and you can keep your top eight.

2:40:45 > 2:40:49She is now starting to pull away. This is the run she needs to get out

2:40:49 > 2:40:58best results for Britain. No one has been eighth in the Olympic Games for

2:40:58 > 2:41:02Britain in the bobsleigh that these two have claimed that position, what

2:41:02 > 2:41:05a Games for the pair who are only here because of the generosity of

2:41:05 > 2:41:11the British public. Now they have secured a little slice of the

2:41:11 > 2:41:16sporting history for

2:41:16 > 2:41:21what will be your biggest memory? My gosh, one of the nicest memories is

2:41:21 > 2:41:27to have our families out here because we are wafer maybe six

2:41:27 > 2:41:33months of the year, we don't see our that often -- we are away for. Could

2:41:33 > 2:41:40hear them chanting. Usually you are so serious but I was smiling under

2:41:40 > 2:41:46my helmet. They made it really relaxed. I have

2:41:46 > 2:41:53never had that much fun racing in my life. That was so much fun. Have

2:41:53 > 2:41:58never walked away from a race and wanted to do it again, you are

2:41:58 > 2:42:05normally exhausted.Every time we were beaming smiles and wanted to go

2:42:05 > 2:42:08again. They make me want to smile back at

2:42:08 > 2:42:18them.Watching them, their positivity, sharing their emotion.

2:42:18 > 2:42:22Laura and Lizzy on the podium together, so much about sharing

2:42:22 > 2:42:29those emotions. There is a part of you as an athlete that never dies

2:42:29 > 2:42:40and you think I want another go. Your heart wants to be there and

2:42:40 > 2:42:46compete. That athlete in you never goes away, there is something inside

2:42:46 > 2:42:52wanting to challenge yourself.Even when you know how disappointing

2:42:52 > 2:42:57things can be. I suspect Eve Muirhead is thinking, what might

2:42:57 > 2:43:06have been? She risked everything, she went for the win with her final

2:43:06 > 2:43:10a shot she would make nine times out of ten but for whatever reason it

2:43:10 > 2:43:16was just overcooked.

2:43:16 > 2:43:18was just overcooked. Anna Sloan shouting encouragement. The way that

2:43:18 > 2:43:23it broke just meant Japan took the one and therefore took the bronze

2:43:23 > 2:43:28medal. But they stuck together as a team,

2:43:28 > 2:43:33there was no blame, they were in it together. That attitude, they went

2:43:33 > 2:43:34for the

2:43:37 > 2:43:42lots of times those risks don't pay off.You would be the one person who

2:43:42 > 2:43:46could bring Eve and say I know what it feels like.

2:43:46 > 2:43:56Keep on that road.Right now, it just hurts. They said in the

2:43:56 > 2:44:02interview, it takes to sink in. The initial deployment gets worse, you

2:44:02 > 2:44:07come home, back to normal life -- the initial disappointment gets

2:44:07 > 2:44:14worse.She has to come straight back for the World Championship

2:44:14 > 2:44:20qualifiers. She had to win the right to represent Scotland at the World

2:44:20 > 2:44:29Championships. In a way, when you are so low, the

2:44:29 > 2:44:33only thing that finally gets you act, you get amazing support from

2:44:33 > 2:44:38people around you which is priceless, what gets you going again

2:44:38 > 2:44:44is another focus. The quick turnaround may be painful but once

2:44:44 > 2:44:49they start performing as a team that will be an inspiration to move on.

2:44:49 > 2:44:53Curling was a huge hit cleverly helped by the fact the USA and won

2:44:53 > 2:45:00the gold for the first time. And South Korea in the women's

2:45:00 > 2:45:03tournament got to the gold medal match.

2:45:12 > 2:45:20Never mind Lindsey Vonn or Shaun White, in South Korea, the only name

2:45:20 > 2:45:27on everybody's lips is the Garlic Girls.

2:45:41 > 2:45:45Those girls are from a small town which nobody can pronounce so they

2:45:45 > 2:45:49call it the Garlic Girls because apparently that is wait garlic

2:45:49 > 2:45:56originates from.Because they are keys, they have different names.

2:45:56 > 2:46:01They have American breakfast names so the coaches can tell them a part.

2:46:01 > 2:46:12We are very proud. Of our girls. South Korea's first curling rink was

2:46:12 > 2:46:18built in 2006 it is a very small sporty but over 23 million Koreans

2:46:18 > 2:46:23tuned in to watch their team win the semifinal and they are aiming to

2:46:23 > 2:46:31become a show's first ever curling champions.Garlic Girls, team Kim,

2:46:31 > 2:46:39absolutely sensational. They are taking on Sweden. She may well jab

2:46:39 > 2:46:44it and that will not be good for Korea. That is the result I thought

2:46:44 > 2:46:49would come out of that one.Right now, it is Sweden that are under

2:46:49 > 2:46:55control and the arena is subdued. Huge opportunity for the Swedish

2:46:55 > 2:47:05skip. Has she got it? Yes, she has! Sweden know that was a huge shot.

2:47:05 > 2:47:11That was a begging for Sweden and it is looking like a long way back for

2:47:11 > 2:47:17the home side. The Swedish team have been by far the best in this final.

2:47:17 > 2:47:22She just wants one, which she does. It is Sweden's gold-medal! And they

2:47:22 > 2:47:28are jumping for joy.Not to be today for the Garlic Girls. Instead,

2:47:28 > 2:47:33Sweden are the Olympic champions. To come from eighth in the world to win

2:47:33 > 2:47:36silver in the Olympics, it is a massive achievement for the South

2:47:36 > 2:47:37Koreans.

2:47:37 > 2:47:40massive achievement for the South Koreans.

2:47:40 > 2:47:43And it meant curling was been shown on all three channels in South Korea

2:47:43 > 2:47:47because they share the rights to the Winter Olympics. South Korea

2:47:47 > 2:47:54targeted certain sports saying they'd only won medals on skates.

2:47:54 > 2:47:59For this game is, they were winning medals in curling, snowboarding,

2:47:59 > 2:48:04skeleton and Bobsleigh so it was a very different spread. And the other

2:48:04 > 2:48:09big success story, Norway finished top but Germany... Finally getting

2:48:09 > 2:48:13into the final of an ice hockey game and they were up against the big red

2:48:13 > 2:48:20Army, the Olympic Athletes from Russia, and this is what happened.

2:48:20 > 2:48:25This is the men's gold Olympic game will it be going to Germany or

2:48:25 > 2:48:33Russia? Germany are in a bit of trouble here! Less than half a

2:48:33 > 2:48:37second to go in first period, the Olympic Athletes from Russia score

2:48:37 > 2:48:44the first goal! Oh, and they have scored! How did that go through?

2:48:44 > 2:48:50Maybe now the Germans have a chance! What a fantastic finish! Is that the

2:48:50 > 2:49:00goal that takes gold back to Russia? Germany have to respond quickly.

2:49:00 > 2:49:03Germany have to respond quickly.Oh, the equaliser! Amazing from Germany!

2:49:03 > 2:49:11Two goals in ten seconds.Germany will not go away, they are amazing!

2:49:11 > 2:49:20They've scored! What a goal! Germany lead 3-2. This is a fairy tale. They

2:49:20 > 2:49:29are just throwing themselves at it, the Germans. They equalised! Nikita

2:49:29 > 2:49:34Gusev! Still more time for more drama. We are going to overtime. A

2:49:34 > 2:49:44chance to take gold back to Russia. And they score! OAR have won it! The

2:49:44 > 2:49:49gold will return to Russia for the first time since 1992.

2:49:49 > 2:49:51gold will return to Russia for the first time since 1992.

2:49:51 > 2:49:55It was a sensational final and likely women's final going to

2:49:55 > 2:50:00overtime. The women's went to penalties in the end a brave effort

2:50:00 > 2:50:05from Germany, OAR seeing them off, with just that little bit more

2:50:05 > 2:50:09power. This is the final medal table. No way out in front for the

2:50:09 > 2:50:15first time since 2002. Both Norway and Germany matching the record of

2:50:15 > 2:50:20gold-medal set by Canada at the Vancouver Games but 14 each for

2:50:20 > 2:50:25them, and that total of 39 for Norway, that is a new record. Canada

2:50:25 > 2:50:29having a good game is followed by the United States and the

2:50:29 > 2:50:35Netherlands. South Korea, best ever performance from them. Great Britain

2:50:35 > 2:50:40finishing 19th, one gold and ball bronze medals making a record total

2:50:40 > 2:50:44of five. Ice hockey, Katherine Grainger.

2:50:47 > 2:50:55I don't play.No. But basketball and ice hockey, the two big team sports

2:50:55 > 2:50:59that have a chance of reaching kids that don't traditionally take up

2:50:59 > 2:51:03sport. You have a lot of opportunity to do it in city centres. Why don't

2:51:03 > 2:51:08we have a funded programme for ice hockey? It is simple. The way the

2:51:08 > 2:51:14funding works... The funding has to be invested in way with the

2:51:14 > 2:51:19government strategy. The government have a sports strategy. At the

2:51:19 > 2:51:23moment it is inspiration through medal success. Even if you work with

2:51:23 > 2:51:28some of the big team sports, like ice hockey, it is accepted they are

2:51:28 > 2:51:34incredible sports, and would have huge influence, we can only look up

2:51:34 > 2:51:38to two Olympics in advance to look at progression of potential medal

2:51:38 > 2:51:42success and those sports would admit they won't be able to fulfil that.

2:51:42 > 2:51:46So money is limited, that isn't within our power to make those

2:51:46 > 2:51:51decisions. What would be ideal because everyone would love to see

2:51:51 > 2:51:55those sports, especially basketball because it has a huge positive

2:51:55 > 2:51:59impact, they almost need a separate strategy of investment because it

2:51:59 > 2:52:05doesn't fit... It doesn't meet the criteria other sports have to meet

2:52:05 > 2:52:12to be funded.Work still to be done, opportunities still to be taken. The

2:52:12 > 2:52:16other good thing about this Winter Olympics and why so many people have

2:52:16 > 2:52:21watched and enjoyed it, a lot of it is fun. And when Woodsy was asked to

2:52:21 > 2:52:26nominate his stars of the Games, he said our commentators because they

2:52:26 > 2:52:33come out with stuff like this!

2:52:33 > 2:52:40Wakey wakey, rise and shine, it is Olympics time. The man who has made

2:52:40 > 2:52:46a jacket out of his grandmother's wallpaper...He couldn't land a

2:52:46 > 2:52:54plane better than that.Crikey, as they say in Australia.He's from

2:52:54 > 2:53:00Canada, mate. He is as loose as a village golf bag. C919, so Mossley,

2:53:00 > 2:53:09he even sinks in salt water.

2:53:09 > 2:53:16The Ford Mondeo of grabs. This slopestyle calls is the most

2:53:16 > 2:53:22dangerous place for a five-year-old child and a kite. Tried to not look

2:53:22 > 2:53:31into his eyes, you'll get lost.Oh my goodness!

2:53:32 > 2:53:38my goodness! I very nearly described him as a camping stove, he's either

2:53:38 > 2:53:46on or off.

2:53:47 > 2:53:52This girl sprinkles pressure on her breakfast cereal. That souffle isn't

2:53:52 > 2:53:59coming out in good condition. Punished in the face by a piston

2:53:59 > 2:54:10from an engine.Given a packet of crayons and delivered a Mane.He is

2:54:10 > 2:54:17strapped into space rocket and he has sent it into outer space!

2:54:17 > 2:54:23Terrific effort and from everybody out in PyeongChang, they've worked

2:54:23 > 2:54:30so many long hours, well done to them. Your moment of the Games?Mica

2:54:30 > 2:54:34and Mica. Just the positivity and the way they attacked it and said we

2:54:34 > 2:54:42will keep going, regardless. Love an underdog.I have two. A British one,

2:54:42 > 2:54:46which is Dom Parsons. It ignited the whole team, his medal. And the one

2:54:46 > 2:54:53that surprised me, I stance, the free programme and eyesores Scott

2:54:53 > 2:55:00Moir and Tessa Virtue get the gold medal. Of all the events, it was the

2:55:00 > 2:55:03only spontaneous standing ovation the whole arena just lifted up when

2:55:03 > 2:55:08they finished that dance. The power of sport.I loved that and I said

2:55:08 > 2:55:12that earlier. I'll stick with my skeleton girls, Lizzy Yarnold Laura

2:55:12 > 2:55:19Deas to bring home to medals on one day after Dom Parsons' results.I

2:55:19 > 2:55:21think it was Elise Christie committing to go back to the sport

2:55:21 > 2:55:25that has caused her so much heartache and believing in herself.

2:55:25 > 2:55:32Thank you all for your time. I will be back at 7pm tonight without very

2:55:32 > 2:55:38last Today At The Games. We have seen over 300 hours of coverage on

2:55:38 > 2:55:42television supported by radio and online. To be an Olympian means more

2:55:42 > 2:55:47than just winning medals. It means more than waving a flag or waving

2:55:47 > 2:55:50team colours. You have to know you've left nothing behind and these

2:55:50 > 2:55:54athletes gave their bodies as well as their hearts.

2:56:17 > 2:56:22What is your dream?

2:56:28 > 2:56:33# There must be lights burning brighter somewhere

2:56:33 > 2:56:41# Got to be birds flying higher in the sky, all blue

2:56:41 > 2:56:47# If I can dream of a better land, where all my brothers walked

2:56:47 > 2:56:50hand-in-hand # Tell me why, oh, why

2:56:50 > 2:57:03# Oh, why can't my dream come true? Goodness, it was perfect!

2:57:03 > 2:57:09# There must be peace and understanding some time

2:57:09 > 2:57:17# Strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear

2:57:17 > 2:57:25# If I can dream of a warmer sun, where it keeps shining on everyone

2:57:25 > 2:57:35# Tell me why, oh, why # Oh why won't the sun appear?Billy

2:57:35 > 2:57:42Morgan has got a bronze medal! I'm crying!

2:57:42 > 2:57:49# We are lost in a crowd # With too much rain

2:57:49 > 2:57:58# We are trapped in a world # That has got all the pain...Elise

2:57:58 > 2:58:08Christie tumbles again! # He can redeem his soul

2:58:08 > 2:58:17# And fly Shaun White is the gold medallist!

2:58:22 > 2:58:30I am sure that the answer has got to come somehow

2:58:30 > 2:58:40# Out there in the dark # There is a flickering candle

2:58:40 > 2:58:42# And while I can be, while I can talk

2:58:42 > 2:58:46# While I can stand, while I can walk

2:58:46 > 2:58:57# While I can dream # I will

2:58:57 > 2:59:03# I will make my dream come true. # Right now!#
