0:00:54 > 0:01:00MUSIC: Kelly Watch The Stars by Air.

0:01:17 > 0:01:25Welcome to the Winter Olympics and Day ten in Pyeongchang. We will have

0:01:25 > 0:01:29a new Olympic discipline coming up in snowboarding, the big air. We

0:01:29 > 0:01:32will see the qualifying shortly, as well as some more traditional winter

0:01:32 > 0:01:43sports. As for me, I've invented my own sport. I give you the big hair!

0:01:43 > 0:01:48Is not going to work otherwise, I want to look like Jenny Jones, here

0:01:48 > 0:01:56is what is coming up, go, song, go! At 1am, we get our first ever

0:01:56 > 0:02:00glimpse of snowboarding big air at the Winter Olympics. As

0:02:00 > 0:02:03qualification for the women's competition begins. Aimee Fuller of

0:02:03 > 0:02:09Great Britain goes on that one. After that, women's halfpipe skiing

0:02:09 > 0:02:11as Molly Summerhayes and Rowan Cheshire try to reach Tuesday's

0:02:11 > 0:02:17file. Kelly Coomes at Nick Buckland first appearance in the figure

0:02:17 > 0:02:21skating and at 5am, it is Great Britain versus Denmark in the

0:02:21 > 0:02:33curling. Here is the plan...

0:02:46 > 0:02:50Have you got all that? I'm glad somebody has! We've been asking you

0:02:50 > 0:03:00to get in touch with the

0:03:00 > 0:03:02to get in touch with the hash tag #bbcolympics, and we have been

0:03:02 > 0:03:06asking what drinkers keeping you watching the action. For me, it is

0:03:06 > 0:03:14good, old-fashioned builder C. Before you join averse piece of

0:03:14 > 0:03:21action let's look at yesterday's men's ski slopestyle file which

0:03:21 > 0:03:24featured Britain's James Woods who went on the hunt for his first ever

0:03:24 > 0:03:31medal.

0:03:31 > 0:03:39medal.This is 2018, the Phoenix. Next up, we have slopestyle, let's

0:03:39 > 0:03:45break it down for you... It is the perfect mix. And the field in the

0:03:45 > 0:03:51men's event is stacked. In the mixes Mr James Woods, right out of

0:03:51 > 0:04:00Sheffield, England.I was a grimy kid, and I really don't care about

0:04:00 > 0:04:06anything but going shredding. Woodsy, keep it simple. His runs

0:04:06 > 0:04:14when today. Are you ready? We're ready, let's drop it.Too much? A

0:04:14 > 0:04:19bit over the top? I think it probably was. Woodsy has been and is

0:04:19 > 0:04:25up for this. He loves the course. He thinks it is absolutely mega, and

0:04:25 > 0:04:31this is going to be incredible. He stomped his first run scoring 90.2,

0:04:31 > 0:04:34but the standard in qualifying was insane and he ended up finishing in

0:04:34 > 0:04:40eighth. Some big names didn't even make it including gold medallist at

0:04:40 > 0:04:48the X Games, Henrik Harlaut. The top 12 advanced through to the finals.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51Bob McAdoo ski slopestyle finals. Conditions are perfect.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55Bob McAdoo ski slopestyle finals. Conditions are perfect. Evan

0:04:55 > 0:05:04Mceachran, the Canadian. Sent me off the wrong way. The level of

0:05:04 > 0:05:16difficulty and technicality was off the chart. There's one, three, 4.5,

0:05:16 > 0:05:2016, 20, pow! That is how you start things off. The judges leaving

0:05:20 > 0:05:27themselves plenty of room, there. Now the Norwegian, Oystein Braaten.

0:05:27 > 0:05:35Big, big name on the jumps.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39Big, big name on the jumps. He's got some big tricks. Hold tight. Just

0:05:39 > 0:05:48using that little detail up there. To try and pique the judges'

0:05:48 > 0:06:06affection. The 450... And so really nice. He seemed to miss his thingy

0:06:06 > 0:06:14off the saddle.The double 1260. He winds up hard.The switch double 14.

0:06:14 > 0:06:21We are going to see back-to-back 14s, left and right, so much going

0:06:21 > 0:06:25on, then he absolutely stomps the landing.Talk us through these,

0:06:25 > 0:06:32Murray. The shifting hands and tail grips, that is really hard to do.

0:06:32 > 0:06:39And there you go, 95.The judges have gone early. That seems really

0:06:39 > 0:06:46high, really soon. Woodsy's first run was almost perfect. Brilliant

0:06:46 > 0:06:50control from the Royals on the first two kickers but he didn't make his

0:06:50 > 0:06:58newest trick stick. He will be looking to improve in-run two.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01looking to improve in-run two. James Woods. He came so close on his first

0:07:01 > 0:07:15run. Look at the smile.Really liked by the free ski community. 270 off.

0:07:15 > 0:07:22Can you double it this time's you're both of them. -- you heard both of

0:07:22 > 0:07:27them.Coming off in different directions which the judges will

0:07:27 > 0:07:32like.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37like.Using the direction of the Twisted Sister kicker, but going

0:07:37 > 0:07:45right off the corner.Better grab, that time. Now, the bottom jump,

0:07:45 > 0:07:54here, what has he got for us? The octo is there a!Yes, Woodsy! That

0:07:54 > 0:08:01was huge! Great Britain's free ski throws down a run that showcases him

0:08:01 > 0:08:06at his very best. Matthew Bourne. So, second place for Woodsy at the

0:08:06 > 0:08:20moment. -- 91. Second

0:08:20 > 0:08:23moment. -- 91. Second place to Braaten at the moment. We knew that

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Israel's were going to be strong but he backed it up with powerful

0:08:26 > 0:08:34kickers on his first run. And now he's poised to strike. He is like a

0:08:34 > 0:08:45wild Cobra. Into jump two. He has gone really deep on that.

0:08:45 > 0:08:51gone really deep on that. The switch 16 triple at the end. Very big, and

0:08:51 > 0:09:00the Canadians know it. Solder is 91, bronze is anything above 89.4, and

0:09:00 > 0:09:05Alex Beaulieu-Marchand of Canada moves into the second, the silver

0:09:05 > 0:09:08medal position. Oystein Braaten remains in gold, James Woods gets

0:09:08 > 0:09:14pushed down into bronze. Third and final runs coming up here at the

0:09:14 > 0:09:24men's ski slopestyle finals. James Woods, looking to repeat Izzy

0:09:24 > 0:09:31Atkin's, this meant yesterday and take a medal here. -- Izzy Atkin's

0:09:31 > 0:09:40accomplishment.Up and over the goalpost. I really like that line.

0:09:40 > 0:09:45Years missed the 450 amp. A lot of work needs to do, something very

0:09:45 > 0:09:51special. He has just tagged his way out of that. He is going to use the

0:09:51 > 0:09:56transition.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01transition. So, so smooth, there. He's gone straight over the front.

0:10:01 > 0:10:10Into the 1260. The earth came to meet him, there. My goodness, it was

0:10:10 > 0:10:18perfect! Oh, but he has missed that one rail. Arguably the rail that he

0:10:18 > 0:10:28has made look so stylish and clean up to this point. 90 points. If the

0:10:28 > 0:10:31450 had been there, it would have been an improvement, he might have

0:10:31 > 0:10:37reeled in Alex Beaulieu-Marchand in silver position but instead it is a

0:10:37 > 0:10:45long and torturous wait for James Woods.

0:10:45 > 0:10:54Woods. Nick Gopper. This will be big.Bronze medal in Sochi. He needs

0:10:54 > 0:11:05to up his game a little bit. Nice top section, through the top.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11top section, through the top. The right side triple, double grab. And

0:11:11 > 0:11:22he made that look easy, opened up early, spotted the landing. And the

0:11:22 > 0:11:27scores, 93.6, he goes into silver medal position, Alex

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Beaulieu-Marchand goes into bronze and James Woods drops out of the top

0:11:29 > 0:11:36three. He shakes the

0:11:37 > 0:11:40three. He shakes the hand of Goepper and walks out of the finish area.

0:11:40 > 0:11:45Alex Beaulieu-Marchand will watch very nervously in bronze medal

0:11:45 > 0:11:50position as Oscar Wester prepares to drop. What has he got?He needs the

0:11:50 > 0:11:59run of his life here. Huge 450. Took that the wrong way, so the pretzel

0:11:59 > 0:12:06out.And he's gone. That's it. And celebrations can begin down at the

0:12:06 > 0:12:10bottom. The Norwegian with a fantastic first run that has stood

0:12:10 > 0:12:17the test of time in final, will take the gold medal. In second place, it

0:12:17 > 0:12:21is the American, the bronze in Sochi, with the silver here in

0:12:21 > 0:12:27Pyeongchang. In third place, it is the Canadian Alex Beaulieu-Marchand,

0:12:27 > 0:12:31and heartbreakingly, in fourth, is James Woods.

0:12:31 > 0:12:36and heartbreakingly, in fourth, is James Woods. It is a game of

0:12:36 > 0:12:41perfection. And not just that, you've got to go above and beyond,

0:12:41 > 0:12:46difficulty wise, and that was insane. I've come here, instructed

0:12:46 > 0:12:50this run to win. It was definitely a go for broke run, wasn't quite

0:12:50 > 0:12:58perfect, but I managed to step up under the knife. That was a show.

0:12:58 > 0:13:03Goodness me, it was a good one. So frustrating for James Woods, and so

0:13:03 > 0:13:07close to getting his first ever Winter Olympic medal. One man who

0:13:07 > 0:13:12already has one is Marcel Hirscher, who took gold in the men's Alpine

0:13:12 > 0:13:24combined, but could he make it two in the men's giant slalom?

0:13:34 > 0:13:41Marcel Hirscher on a mission. One of the greatest of all time. The one

0:13:41 > 0:13:47thing missing from his trophy cabinet is an Olympic gold medal.

0:13:47 > 0:13:52Glorious slalom skiing from Marcel Hirscher. At last, he is an Olympic

0:13:52 > 0:13:57champion.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01champion.It Marcel Hirscher achieves what is capable of and win

0:14:01 > 0:14:06three gold medals at these games, he will be the undisputed, greatest

0:14:06 > 0:14:11male skier of all time. He has already won gold in the combined and

0:14:11 > 0:14:17in the giant slalom he is in spectacular form. He is the reigning

0:14:17 > 0:14:21world champion. The only question is, can he deal with the pressure of

0:14:21 > 0:14:31expectation? On the first run, the only other skier to win a World Cup

0:14:31 > 0:14:37giant slalom was Alexi Panter Row. Set the pace. His team-mate might

0:14:37 > 0:14:43have got some information from his partner, Mikaela Shiffrin, to ski in

0:14:43 > 0:14:50till a very fast time into second. Then it was the turn of Marcel

0:14:50 > 0:14:54Hirscher who improved his class on the first run, skiing Outers .63

0:14:54 > 0:15:04lead. He leads the Olympic giant slalom by a massive margin. Manuel

0:15:04 > 0:15:07Feller and Luke P Dan Bailey crash spectacularly into the fence on the

0:15:07 > 0:15:17final gate. The man who is lying second in the World Cup standings,

0:15:17 > 0:15:22Kristoffersen, who could be Marcel Hirscher's biggest rival, was slow

0:15:22 > 0:15:31and was in tenth position. The Norwegian, proved he is a big event

0:15:31 > 0:15:37skier being in third in the first run. The Italian came in from 18 to

0:15:37 > 0:15:42be placed fourth on the first run. There are only six races within a

0:15:42 > 0:15:51second of Marcel Hirsch, so this is one for the Austrian Toulouse. Over

0:15:51 > 0:15:56to your commentator, Matt Chilton. COMMENTATOR: Kristoffersen had a

0:15:56 > 0:16:01disappointing first run by his standards. The second best giant

0:16:01 > 0:16:12slalom skier of the season.

0:16:26 > 0:16:41Nothing wrong with this top section from Henrik Kristoffersen.

0:16:53 > 0:16:59He is getting quicker and quicker. He was the bronze in the slalom four

0:16:59 > 0:17:03years ago behind the two Austrians. He will move into gold medal

0:17:03 > 0:17:16position. He does so with the lead of 1.14 seconds.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19of 1.14 seconds. Much more attack and much more aggression and taking

0:17:19 > 0:17:23the right amount of risk with the line. He was running late at times

0:17:23 > 0:17:27but just on the edge. It was a good enough time potentially to climb up

0:17:27 > 0:17:32onto the podium.

0:17:50 > 0:17:57He cannot do it. That is not what Kristoffersen did. He left it all on

0:17:57 > 0:18:03the mountain and unfortunately it is not happening. Can he get amongst

0:18:03 > 0:18:09the provisional medal places?

0:18:11 > 0:18:15the provisional medal places? He is sixth and with two to come,

0:18:15 > 0:18:21remarkably, Henrik Kristoffersen is guaranteed an Olympic medal. Leave

0:18:21 > 0:18:25Kristian Ernesto Hagen, it wasn't enough on the turns and then

0:18:25 > 0:18:31skidding at the end of each turn and that is when it slipped away.

0:18:31 > 0:18:41Penultimate skier on the hill. Bronze medallist four years ago in

0:18:41 > 0:18:49Sochi.

0:18:49 > 0:18:55Sochi. He has a decent lead over Kristoffersen.

0:18:59 > 0:19:01Kristoffersen. Managed to make his landing. I don't think he lost too

0:19:01 > 0:19:17much speed. It was untidy at worst. It is still very... Handy, that

0:19:17 > 0:19:29advantage. This was untidy again. It is a risky second run.

0:19:33 > 0:19:39is a risky second run. This one is going to go right to the wire. Final

0:19:39 > 0:19:44terms are clean and fast, now he lets them run. Kristoffersen can

0:19:44 > 0:19:49barely watch.

0:19:49 > 0:20:00barely watch. Kristoffersen stays in top spot.

0:20:00 > 0:20:09Seat of the pants skiing. Aggressive on the top part of the cause. Almost

0:20:09 > 0:20:12jumped out of the course altogether and then on the steep section,

0:20:12 > 0:20:16perhaps a bit too hard on his edges. He was late when he came down most

0:20:16 > 0:20:22of those terms on the steep. He had believed, but it just slipped away

0:20:22 > 0:20:31by four hundredths of a second. Next up, Marcel Hirscher.

0:20:31 > 0:20:37up, Marcel Hirscher.Marcel Hirscher comes into the second run. This

0:20:37 > 0:20:48greatest skier of his generation. Already the gold medallist the

0:20:48 > 0:20:58Alpine Skiing. Opens up one second over Kristoffersen. They have

0:20:58 > 0:21:02enjoyed great rivalry over the last few season. But in the last two it

0:21:02 > 0:21:09is usually Marcel Hirscher who comes out on top. He's probably the best

0:21:09 > 0:21:13Austrian ski racer of all time. It doesn't matter about that mistake,

0:21:13 > 0:21:17you can get away with another couple of errors and still go on and claim

0:21:17 > 0:21:25his second gold of The Games.

0:21:25 > 0:21:28his second gold of The Games. He is carving beautiful turns, so much

0:21:28 > 0:21:33movement and athleticism on display. 1.25 seconds. He is in a different

0:21:33 > 0:21:41league. Cruising towards gold medal number two. He is the giant slalom

0:21:41 > 0:21:48Olympic champion. It is the golden 44 Marcel Hirscher in Pyeongchang.

0:21:48 > 0:21:55It was quite fantastic. Gold medal number two with a superb masterclass

0:21:55 > 0:21:59display of giant slalom skiing. On the top section he was sensational,

0:21:59 > 0:22:04made a bit of a mistake going on to the steep, got the line wrong and

0:22:04 > 0:22:10had to do an edge set. On the steep, one turn was slightly late but

0:22:10 > 0:22:14immediately corrected the folds and he took his foot off the gas in the

0:22:14 > 0:22:18last couple of gates and crossed the line. Miles ahead of the rest of the

0:22:18 > 0:22:25field.Combine gold, big surprise but everybody was expecting tie with

0:22:25 > 0:22:34when the gold medal in the GS race. Aggressive conditions appear, not

0:22:34 > 0:22:39typical, not used to buy European athletes, so it was tricky to find

0:22:39 > 0:22:44the right setup. But we manage this. What does a feel like to emulate

0:22:44 > 0:22:51your childhood hero, Alberto Tomba? It is special. Two gold medals and

0:22:51 > 0:22:53now it is time to celebrate.

0:22:58 > 0:23:04Double gold, but his best event is yet to come. You are here to talk

0:23:04 > 0:23:07about the big air, making its Olympic debut, what can you tell us

0:23:07 > 0:23:16about it?It is one of the most dynamic disciplines in snowboarding.

0:23:16 > 0:23:21This is like taking one of those jumps off the end and asking a rider

0:23:21 > 0:23:26for their best trick. It is shorter in its format, more explosive and

0:23:26 > 0:23:37dynamic. Instead of seeing 80% of what a rider is capable of, we will

0:23:39 > 0:23:45see 110%. In the finals you see more variations, three jumps on the best

0:23:45 > 0:23:49two count. In this case, they have done an interesting thing with the

0:23:49 > 0:23:54jump. It is bigger, it is enormous but by the scale of the riders, it

0:23:54 > 0:24:00is medium to large. So it may not allow for the quad core, which is

0:24:00 > 0:24:06the biggest trick. Four rotations where the head goes underneath the

0:24:06 > 0:24:11board well they are spinning on a horizontal axis at the same time. It

0:24:11 > 0:24:16is called a Cork because it is like a corkscrew rotation. Billy Morgan

0:24:16 > 0:24:22was the first person to land it, the British rider. But this jump will

0:24:22 > 0:24:26take, you'll have to send it to the bottom of the landing to make space

0:24:26 > 0:24:30for that. I have heard murmurings in might be possible but we will kick

0:24:30 > 0:24:34off with the women and the women in training, they have been raving

0:24:34 > 0:24:41about this job. They say it is incredible. In the Slopestyle, there

0:24:41 > 0:24:45were big issues with the wind and Aimee Fuller was gutted with how bad

0:24:45 > 0:24:49it was. That is out of the way, so is this a chance of redemption? That

0:24:49 > 0:24:54is exactly what will happen. The women's Slopestyle became a lottery

0:24:54 > 0:25:00because of those conditions, it wasn't a showcase of the best of

0:25:00 > 0:25:03women's snowboarding. When you consider how far it has progressed

0:25:03 > 0:25:13in the last Olympic cycle, we have gone from two rotations, to 2.5.

0:25:13 > 0:25:27Sina Candrian tried a 1080 in Sochi. All the women now will have the

0:25:27 > 0:25:32trick. The progression is huge and to be able to showcase back in

0:25:32 > 0:25:35conditions like this, I think today could be a brilliant, brilliant

0:25:35 > 0:25:41spectacle.You have set it up beautifully and I am pumped for

0:25:41 > 0:25:45this. Aimee Fuller will be looking to make amends in the qualification.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49She has been given free rein throughout The Games to write for

0:25:49 > 0:25:57the BBC. This is her latest instalment.Amy, I love you. I love

0:25:57 > 0:26:12Korea. Where are we going? You are now an Olympian.Nick Butland.

0:26:19 > 0:26:29Opening ceremony, baby. It is such a windy contest, it really was

0:26:29 > 0:26:35absolutely crazy. Gave it everything I had in the tank, but that last

0:26:35 > 0:26:42jump just wasn't meant to be.I am now mother of the Olympian. I always

0:26:42 > 0:26:47was.

0:26:50 > 0:26:57was.Has been a good crack. Behind-the-scenes.

0:27:01 > 0:27:05Behind-the-scenes. I met up with my family and we are walking around the

0:27:05 > 0:27:15markets. Nice to get out of the village for a day. I love Korea.

0:27:16 > 0:27:24Thank you. Where are you from?Great Britain.

0:27:26 > 0:27:33Britain. I would not eat that.Where are you from?Great Britain.I love

0:27:33 > 0:27:44you.I am back in the village, straight back to it.

0:27:53 > 0:28:02We are at the big air then you, Jessica has just gone down. She is

0:28:02 > 0:28:10looking good. Hope it is not too windy. Makes make sure you tune in.

0:28:10 > 0:28:18By compete on the 19th, to make sure you tune in.She has been enjoying

0:28:18 > 0:28:24herself so let's see how she gets on in the women's big air qualifiers.

0:28:24 > 0:28:31We had over to Ed.

0:28:34 > 0:28:41herself the first of our commentators is about to go. Not her

0:28:41 > 0:28:46favourite discipline in 2006. She sets out with a backside 720. By her

0:28:46 > 0:28:55standards, very simple but the great example, first up, of just how

0:28:55 > 0:29:01comfortable the woman are on this jump after three days of practice.

0:29:01 > 0:29:07It is getting rave reviews from the women. The backside 720. Backside,

0:29:07 > 0:29:11because that's the direction of rotation. She turns her back on the

0:29:11 > 0:29:16landing, the tail grab air, gets hold of the tale, just a little bit

0:29:16 > 0:29:24early, maybe. She lands just off the first line. In the sweet spot of the

0:29:24 > 0:29:31landing. A little bit untidy. But she has been held up, there, for

0:29:31 > 0:29:35about four minutes. You can forgive her for being a little bit stiff,

0:29:35 > 0:29:39the format of qualification, two jumps, and the best run will count.

0:29:39 > 0:29:4926 women jumping. 65, always difficult, the first run, Cheryl has

0:29:49 > 0:29:57a backside 900. She can take that if she wants.

0:29:57 > 0:30:03she wants. Next up, Britain was Mike Aimee Fuller.

0:30:06 > 0:30:11Aimee Fuller. Her coach, just behind her. It will be interesting to see

0:30:11 > 0:30:16what

0:30:17 > 0:30:21what direction Aimee drops in in. She has a cab double under Philip.

0:30:21 > 0:30:29She is going for it, and she just sat back on the landing. But the

0:30:29 > 0:30:39first double of the day goes down. So, so close.

0:30:40 > 0:30:47So, so close. Aimee's got two runs. Just got the grab, a tiny tickle,

0:30:47 > 0:30:54the second one, but doubles have become almost standard in women's

0:30:54 > 0:30:59snowboarding now.

0:30:59 > 0:31:03snowboarding now. The first of them arrived in 2013, 2014, when Aimee

0:31:03 > 0:31:13landed this trick in Sochi, at the Winter Olympics.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16Winter Olympics. But Katie Ormerod, who is not here and riding, after

0:31:16 > 0:31:26she cracked her heel in training for slopestyle. He knows it's all down

0:31:26 > 0:31:36to second runs, now.Hello, guys, thank you for waking up early!Aimee

0:31:36 > 0:31:42gives it up for the second jump. Yes, doubles are commonplace now,

0:31:42 > 0:31:48but there will be a requirement, I think, 1080s or doubles, for the

0:31:48 > 0:31:52final. Aimee is throwing it out there. Now, Hailey Langland,

0:31:52 > 0:31:58fantastic style.

0:31:58 > 0:32:00fantastic style. The 17-year-old from Southern California has such a

0:32:00 > 0:32:08relaxed attitude. Never looks like she has been training. Looks like

0:32:08 > 0:32:14she has just been doing hot laps in the park for fun. A lot of promise

0:32:14 > 0:32:24in 2016-17, but hasn't quite back that up in 2018.

0:32:24 > 0:32:28that up in 2018. The cab 720, taking off backwards and rotating

0:32:28 > 0:32:36frontside. That's can spin, very simple. She is filming up, there,

0:32:36 > 0:32:43for a cab 1080. That is a really stock trick, lovely style on it,

0:32:43 > 0:32:52though. You can see she grabs... The stalefish air, the Mellon, and then

0:32:52 > 0:32:59onto the tail.

0:32:59 > 0:33:06onto the tail. There is. There the stalefish air. She got to grab on

0:33:06 > 0:33:10the board, there, so that she can just get hold of those grabs,

0:33:10 > 0:33:20beautiful grounds, style- was, a lot cleaner than Cheryl Maas, who took a

0:33:20 > 0:33:2665 on her first jump. Hailey Langland moves up into the lead, on

0:33:26 > 0:33:3373. Relatively simple. The judges without bad a big discussion. She

0:33:33 > 0:33:37has a little shimmy shake going on, there. Canadians giving it up for

0:33:37 > 0:33:44the American. Good to see. They are also anticipating the drop of this

0:33:44 > 0:33:48woman, Spencer O'Brien, heartbroken in Sochi in 2014, and so

0:33:48 > 0:33:56disappointed at the Slopestyle at the beginning of last week.

0:33:56 > 0:34:00the beginning of last week. So, can see now make her Olympic dream a

0:34:00 > 0:34:06reality, like Cheryl Maas, she's one of the veterans of the sport. One of

0:34:06 > 0:34:11the first woman to advocated equal rights for kickers for the women,

0:34:11 > 0:34:18she didn't want to ride smaller jumps. Frontside 720, so, so smooth.

0:34:18 > 0:34:26Very, very nice. Just gliding through that. Look so relaxed. She

0:34:26 > 0:34:36will be really pleased. It is so much talent in this field. A great

0:34:36 > 0:34:47view of the 19.5 metre table top the riders have to clear. Lovely.

0:34:47 > 0:34:56There's so much talent in this field, so many solid riders. In

0:34:56 > 0:35:01perfect conditions like this, it's going to be very, very difficult.

0:35:01 > 0:35:05The judges were let off lightly in slopestyle but the win, where it

0:35:05 > 0:35:13essentially became a lottery. That is a score of 69.5 for Spencer.

0:35:13 > 0:35:16There are quite like directions you can spin, if you bring forward you

0:35:16 > 0:35:19can do frontside and backside, and the same when you are going

0:35:19 > 0:35:23backwards. Switch backside is going backwards and turning your back on

0:35:23 > 0:35:33the landing, that is the hardest. Sina Candrian, talking to some OTHER

0:35:33 > 0:35:36COACHES, we have not seen her training over the last couple of

0:35:36 > 0:35:41days. I'm not sure if she has sustained any kind of injury in

0:35:41 > 0:35:46slopestyle. She was one of the many riders who went down quite hard in

0:35:46 > 0:35:52slopestyle, but she has a big one side repertoire. Going frontside ten

0:35:52 > 0:35:5981st hit, and just slips down. That is the trick she landed and pushed

0:35:59 > 0:36:09the judges very hard with to take Jenny Jones' bronze medal in 2014.

0:36:09 > 0:36:15So it's still working very hard for her. The frontside 1080, three ball

0:36:15 > 0:36:22spins, taking off the heels, a much harder edge to control. Gets the

0:36:22 > 0:36:27grab nice and early, but then let's go, early. She is down on the tail a

0:36:27 > 0:36:32bit too soon. Because she hasn't got her edge in contact with the slow,

0:36:32 > 0:36:38she can't kill the rotation in her upper body. It keeps rotating. She

0:36:38 > 0:36:43just slides out.

0:36:44 > 0:36:50just slides out. The teeth gritted. She knew that it was overcooked.

0:36:50 > 0:37:03Spots the landing. She can't kill it. Sina Candrian will rely on her

0:37:03 > 0:37:14next jump. 31.7 five.

0:37:14 > 0:37:18next jump. 31.7 five. The judging is for overall impression, looking at

0:37:18 > 0:37:23every aspect of the jump, technicality, how clean it is, the

0:37:23 > 0:37:36landing. Julia Marino. Silver medallist of X Games two weeks ago.

0:37:36 > 0:37:48She has the cab double under Philip. -- underflip. A little bit more

0:37:48 > 0:37:57rotation on it now, Harper tell whether it is the cab double cork

0:37:57 > 0:38:01900, for it to be the 900, the Neasden not the two backflips at a

0:38:01 > 0:38:1290 degrees rotation. -- there needs not to be the two backflips.

0:38:15 > 0:38:22not to be the two backflips. Yes, I can hear the MC calling it the cab

0:38:22 > 0:38:29double underflip 900. Means that she is in two double backflip territory,

0:38:29 > 0:38:36there. But the corkscrew lets you short cut through horizontal degrees

0:38:36 > 0:38:47rotation. Spending on two

0:38:47 > 0:38:49rotation. Spending on two axes, 83.75. For me, that trick very

0:38:49 > 0:38:55similar to the one that we saw Aimee Fuller falling on early on. An

0:38:55 > 0:39:02indication of what score is available if Aimee Fuller lands it.

0:39:06 > 0:39:11Zoi Sadowski Synott, we got a glimpse of what she is capable of in

0:39:11 > 0:39:16slopestyle. Huge double backflip, and she stomps it, almost to the

0:39:16 > 0:39:21fifth line. The youngest women in the field, just 16, and she has been

0:39:21 > 0:39:24so exciting. The first time I saw her riding was the World

0:39:24 > 0:39:30Championships in 2017. It was a very hot course. And it was a very big

0:39:30 > 0:39:39course. Some of them are intimidated by the course, some of the big seas.

0:39:39 > 0:39:43And she was doing some of the biggest jumps, and making a mockery

0:39:43 > 0:39:49of the biggest names of the business, their fears. She's done it

0:39:49 > 0:39:54again, here. Look how comfortable she is in this trip. She knows that

0:39:54 > 0:39:58she has over rotated, opens up, lays it out, and stomps it on the

0:39:58 > 0:40:03penultimate line of the landing. The biggest we have seen anyone go.

0:40:03 > 0:40:11There is no horizontal rotation, no 360, 540, but it is a great

0:40:11 > 0:40:16rangefinder. It will be interesting to see whether judges put this. So

0:40:16 > 0:40:21just behind Hailey

0:40:22 > 0:40:24just behind Hailey Langland on 72.75, third place for Zoi Sadowski

0:40:24 > 0:40:30Synott. So the helicopter just circling around this enormous

0:40:30 > 0:40:45scaffolding tower. Brooke Voigt, she took 14th in Copper, and eight in

0:40:45 > 0:40:52the Beijing Air And Style. She has was done well on home turf in

0:40:52 > 0:40:57Canada. Two silvers from the World Championships. The second in Calgary

0:40:57 > 0:41:06at the World Cup, there. Frontside 720 with a melon grab. The landing

0:41:06 > 0:41:16was lovely. First jump in the bag for Brooke Voigt. As we have seen

0:41:16 > 0:41:24with the doubles being thrown down by the likes of Julia Marino and Zoi

0:41:24 > 0:41:27Sadowski Synott, it's going to need to be very, very clean to make the

0:41:27 > 0:41:32finals.

0:41:34 > 0:41:37finals. Candrian has come up with a statement of intent from the

0:41:37 > 0:41:44frontside 1080. And now what we have seen from Brooke Voigt begs the

0:41:44 > 0:41:50question whether that rotation will be enough for the files any more.

0:41:50 > 0:41:54With the amount of practice the women have had, and how comfortable

0:41:54 > 0:42:03they are on this jump, it is going to be all about the doubles. Brooke

0:42:06 > 0:42:12Voigt, 67.75. I'd imagine the judges are working on the idea that, if all

0:42:12 > 0:42:15of the strong jumps are in and landed, you'd be looking at scores

0:42:15 > 0:42:20of 80, and above. Next up, double gold medallist in Olympic

0:42:20 > 0:42:29slopestyle. She has one goal both in Sochi and here. Can she cap that

0:42:29 > 0:42:35slopestyle medal with a gold here? Certainly, her practice on the

0:42:35 > 0:42:39airbag in Park city, that $3 million facility that has paid off so well

0:42:39 > 0:42:48already for the Americans has taught her doubles. She has gone double.

0:42:48 > 0:42:55And she came up a little bit short. Uncharacteristic for Anderson. But

0:42:55 > 0:43:00we never really see her pushed. In slopestyle, she doesn't need this

0:43:00 > 0:43:06cab double under. She made a debut with it in New Zealand at the first

0:43:06 > 0:43:10World Cup of the year but, interestingly, her execution of it

0:43:10 > 0:43:14was not as strong as the Slopestyle run she pulled off without that, so

0:43:14 > 0:43:20it's not that trick she has Perth -- permanently added to the Slopestyle

0:43:20 > 0:43:26run and, as such, you have to ask, is it the finished article? She's

0:43:26 > 0:43:34very late on that second dip. That is most definitely a cab. Cab 900.

0:43:34 > 0:43:40Underflip. She's got the horizontal rotation in there, as well. Just one

0:43:40 > 0:43:47jump left for Jamie Anderson but if the last 12 years of Slopestyle

0:43:47 > 0:43:49riding has taught us anything it is that Jamie Anderson can deal with

0:43:49 > 0:43:59pressure.

0:44:05 > 0:44:13Next in, Enni Rukajarvi. She is so smooth. Winds up, cab 720. One of

0:44:13 > 0:44:22her tricks she uses in Slopestyle, regularly. She is so consistent.

0:44:22 > 0:44:34That was like clocking in the Enni Rukajarvi. Yes, that is my cab

0:44:34 > 0:44:42seven, no fanfare, nothing fancy. Just a very tidy switch sides 720.

0:44:51 > 0:45:03Very, very clean. She has been very smart, Enni Rukajarvi. She suffered

0:45:03 > 0:45:10from burn-out just before Sochi," into 2013, the qualification process

0:45:10 > 0:45:17took its toll on her. Another 720 that measures 70 points. Landed

0:45:17 > 0:45:23cleanly and she couldn't break 70 points. So, Enni Rukajarvi looking

0:45:23 > 0:45:30around. Fifth place. The judges are saying, we are expecting more than

0:45:30 > 0:45:34720, ladies. They have been watching practice and they know what

0:45:34 > 0:45:38everybody is capable of. They are not giving out the big scores for

0:45:38 > 0:45:44what they see as a run of the mill tricks. We will see anything but a

0:45:44 > 0:45:56run of the mill trick here.

0:45:57 > 0:46:06Reira Iwabuchi, just 16 years of age.

0:46:07 > 0:46:10age. She has thrown this trick consistently over the last three

0:46:10 > 0:46:16days in training. I would be very surprised if she doesn't set the cat

0:46:16 > 0:46:22amongst the pigeons here first go. Say that, she is dropping in switch.

0:46:22 > 0:46:32She has gone very easy as well, cab 900. Two and a half spins, taking

0:46:32 > 0:46:38off backwards, landing/ to Reira Iwabuchi, so consistent is already

0:46:38 > 0:46:42at 16. She came literally out of nowhere. She got second at the

0:46:42 > 0:46:52Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic. She stepped up to

0:46:52 > 0:46:58the big stage, second in her first World Cup, second at the big air,

0:46:58 > 0:47:03second at the Slopestyle and took Slopestyle in the big air at X

0:47:03 > 0:47:10Games. The 16-year-old has arrived already.

0:47:14 > 0:47:25already. Just missed the grabs. Didn't quite have that as cleanly as

0:47:25 > 0:47:30she would have liked. The judges will penalise her, but 80 points.

0:47:30 > 0:47:37Big rotation, puts her into second place. Just behind Julia Marino. The

0:47:37 > 0:47:44Japanese rider sandwiched between two Americans. The Japanese have

0:47:44 > 0:47:52been pushing so hard in women's Slopestyle and big air.

0:47:57 > 0:48:04Now, Yuka Fujimori. Her fourth winter Olympics but second as a

0:48:04 > 0:48:12Slopestyle. Usually freestylers get old and they don't want to take the

0:48:12 > 0:48:16hits on the big jumps in any more and start riding Snowboard Cross.

0:48:16 > 0:48:21Yuka Fujimori, has done it the opposite way around. Far from making

0:48:21 > 0:48:31up the numbers here, the 31-year-old has been throwing down some doubles

0:48:31 > 0:48:37in training.

0:48:41 > 0:48:44in training. Eggs at the world champions in Nevada at the end of

0:48:44 > 0:48:48last season. -- eight. Still discussing with the coach exactly

0:48:48 > 0:48:54what she is going to do.

0:49:03 > 0:49:09Just holding here. Certainly no wind. I take that back, you can see

0:49:09 > 0:49:15the flag just down below them. A little tiny bit, but we are in a

0:49:15 > 0:49:27little bowl, so whatever there is should be swirling lightly.

0:49:28 > 0:49:34should be swirling lightly. So the dreaded W word those rare its head

0:49:34 > 0:49:42again. It is a headwind. Can see from that angle. It gives you an

0:49:42 > 0:49:48idea of just how big the running is for this. Very steep as well.

0:49:48 > 0:49:55Steeper than any black run you will be able to ride in any resort,

0:49:55 > 0:50:03anywhere in the world. The riders need a vast amount of speed in a

0:50:03 > 0:50:08very short space of time. The wind has dropped down and Yuka Fujimori

0:50:08 > 0:50:20drops in. Backside 900 and stomps it. Tiny, tiny finger drag, if you

0:50:20 > 0:50:29are interested, the women's ski halfpipe, featuring Rowan Cheshire

0:50:29 > 0:50:37and Molly Summerhayes is on the red button now. Red button coverage, the

0:50:37 > 0:50:41women's ski halfpipe, over there now. We will stay here for the

0:50:41 > 0:50:52women's big air qualifying first runs.

0:50:52 > 0:51:04runs. Just dragging a tiny bit. Little double grab. Front hand on

0:51:04 > 0:51:09the toe edge to backhand on the toe edge. We saw the cab 1080 which is a

0:51:09 > 0:51:16little bit easier. Taking off backwards and landing switch. This

0:51:16 > 0:51:22is taking a forwards and landing backwards. You can see the impact

0:51:22 > 0:51:29from Yuka Fujimori. If you wear it impact shorts, you have a little bit

0:51:29 > 0:51:36of padding on your hips. If you fold directly on your hips, it is easy to

0:51:36 > 0:51:41get groin strain with a heavy impact on the pelvis., 82 points for Yuka

0:51:41 > 0:51:48Fujimori. And I think we are seeing the first of the Japanese riders,

0:51:48 > 0:52:00who are really going to start dominating this big air appeal.

0:52:04 > 0:52:10Silje Norendal pulled out of X Games Slopestyle because of the snow. She

0:52:10 > 0:52:16doesn't have the mass if conditions aren't perfect. She will be watching

0:52:16 > 0:52:21and waiting to see what the wind does. The Norwegian, three

0:52:21 > 0:52:27consecutive X Games Slopestyle medals.

0:52:28 > 0:52:36medals. Very, very experienced rider at this level.

0:52:45 > 0:52:532013, 2014, 2015 X Games gold-medal with a frontside of her toes. If you

0:52:53 > 0:52:58imagine he will stand sideways and then open your shoulders. The front

0:52:58 > 0:53:04of your body faces in the direction of your travel. You should do it off

0:53:04 > 0:53:09your heels, as she has done there, switch 900 and very clean. Not huge,

0:53:09 > 0:53:15she didn't take off the biggest part, but she still made it over the

0:53:15 > 0:53:22kicker comfortably. She started the rotation really early on the kicker

0:53:22 > 0:53:29as well. Watch the replay, she is sliding up the face of the jump.

0:53:29 > 0:53:34Again, the double grab. This is a great sign that women feel really

0:53:34 > 0:53:43comfortable on this jump. Brings the same hand round onto the toe edge.

0:53:43 > 0:53:48That is difficult. Most people if they are doing two grabs in one

0:53:48 > 0:53:53jump, she has done almost 180 degrees as she took off. Really

0:53:53 > 0:53:59washing through the start of that. At I will be very interested to see

0:53:59 > 0:54:05what the judges make of that. Very, very clean landing from Silje

0:54:05 > 0:54:15Norendal.

0:54:16 > 0:54:2476 for Silje Norendal. Fourth place. Little bit premature on the

0:54:24 > 0:54:30take-off, I thought. I would like to see her really pumped into that and

0:54:30 > 0:54:37wash through the kicker. It would give her more distance. OK, she is

0:54:37 > 0:54:42the current leader of the women's World Cup. She has been dominating

0:54:42 > 0:54:50this discipline. She was heartbroken to miss out in Slopestyle. She

0:54:50 > 0:54:58redefined what women Slopestyle is that the US open ten months ago.

0:54:58 > 0:55:05But, look at the result, gold at X Games two weeks ago at big air. She

0:55:05 > 0:55:13took first, the big air, first in Beijing and first in Milan. She has

0:55:13 > 0:55:19one every contest she has ended. Switch double on the flip. Very

0:55:19 > 0:55:25tidy, very big. That is first place. Finally, the Austrians have

0:55:25 > 0:55:32something to cheer about here. After a huge degree of expectation

0:55:32 > 0:55:38surrounding Anna Gasser in Slopestyle, where she just wasn't

0:55:38 > 0:55:43able to deliver. She is one of the riders who likes conditions to be as

0:55:43 > 0:55:48good as possible. She isn't fuzzy, but she knew at her weight, things

0:55:48 > 0:55:53wouldn't go her way. She was very courageous and attempted this trick

0:55:53 > 0:56:00in Slopestyle but it didn't work for her. She was blown off course on the

0:56:00 > 0:56:04first of the three kickers. But she comes in here and lays it down first

0:56:04 > 0:56:15go, making it look very, very easy.

0:56:16 > 0:56:23Anna Gasser, smiling today as women's Snowboarding gets the

0:56:23 > 0:56:28platform it deserves. 88.25 and Anna Gasser moves 4.5 points into the

0:56:28 > 0:56:40lead. , another one of the very talented Japanese riders. Miyabi

0:56:40 > 0:56:44Onitsuka, I have seen her going through the gears in the last two

0:56:44 > 0:56:51years. She was over the moon in 2014. She took second in the

0:56:51 > 0:56:56European open Slopestyle contest. That was the trick she used to such

0:56:56 > 0:57:01good effect. She has had it in her repertoire for three years and it is

0:57:01 > 0:57:06starting to look very, very clean. I have known for a fact she spent the

0:57:06 > 0:57:13run-up to these games at the maximised facility in Canada. She

0:57:13 > 0:57:25has a lot more to give than the cab 900. Taking off on the left-hand

0:57:25 > 0:57:28side of the kicker. Rather than drifting to the right, she actually

0:57:28 > 0:57:35drifts to the left. Really interesting.

0:57:35 > 0:57:42interesting. She doesn't quite get the grab on that to prove to the

0:57:42 > 0:57:47judges that she is really in control of that trick. It is not going to be

0:57:47 > 0:58:01the top spot, but high 70s? I think 78, maybe? We have

0:58:02 > 0:58:0678, maybe? We have seen Silje Norendal outdo the cab 900, but she

0:58:06 > 0:58:13didn't pop into the take-off like Miyabi Onitsuka. Low 80s. I wasn't

0:58:13 > 0:58:20100% sure it was worth that much. But the judges obviously rewarding

0:58:20 > 0:58:31the pop over the lack of grab. Canadian in next.

0:58:33 > 0:58:40Canadian in next. Laurie Blouin. She had a decent black eye, on her left

0:58:40 > 0:58:48eye. But, as is so often the case, you see one person take the medal

0:58:48 > 0:58:53and then they find their confidence, their Mojo. It could be the case

0:58:53 > 0:58:58with Laurie Blouin here.

0:59:01 > 0:59:07The cab double under 900. Nice horizontal rotation mixed with the

0:59:07 > 0:59:13backflips. Much more of a corkscrew to that.

0:59:18 > 0:59:23to that. Laurie Blouin looking very happy and relaxed. You can see the

0:59:23 > 0:59:33remnants of that shiner. Lovely rotation. She gets a good bit of

0:59:33 > 0:59:38spin in, alongside the Philips. The cab double under corkscrew 900, good

0:59:38 > 0:59:44grab, great style on the landing. Grabs on, solid, really holds onto

0:59:44 > 0:59:58that. So, decent style. Really clean on the landing. It's going to be a

0:59:58 > 1:00:05very strong score, I think. Is it better than Anna Gasser's? According

1:00:05 > 1:00:15to the judges it is, 90.25. Laurie Blouin, confidence has got her

1:00:15 > 1:00:27honour roll. Very impressive from the 21-year-old Canadian out Quebec.

1:00:27 > 1:00:32Next up, Jessika Jenson, one of the few riders in the first run of

1:00:32 > 1:00:40slopestyle last Monday to lay down a clean run. She is the fourth pick

1:00:40 > 1:00:48for the American women's slopestyle team.

1:00:48 > 1:00:56team. Love that, oh, yes! Beautiful! The backside rodeo late corkscrew

1:00:56 > 1:01:02seven.

1:01:02 > 1:01:10seven. Wow! Very nice. You do not see that in women's snowboarding.

1:01:10 > 1:01:14Jessika Jenson, where have you pulled that one from? She comes in

1:01:14 > 1:01:18off the toes, then falls into the back of that rotation. Very, very

1:01:18 > 1:01:28nice. Just falling off the toes, and dipping the head. It's very hard to

1:01:28 > 1:01:34do that on a snowboard. We saw it on skis a lot yesterday. On the ski

1:01:34 > 1:01:45slopestyle. Very, very nice riding from Jessika Jenson. This is the cat

1:01:45 > 1:01:50amongst the pigeons for the judges. What can they do with this? I

1:01:50 > 1:01:54thought she might have caught an edge, I haven't seen that trick from

1:01:54 > 1:02:01her. Jessika Jenson giving a shout out to her local resort, Kelly

1:02:01 > 1:02:10Canyon in Idaho. 13th on the slope in Sochi. She came into those games,

1:02:10 > 1:02:14I remember thinking she'd come out of nowhere, but she got third place

1:02:14 > 1:02:18twice in the US Grand Prix qualifiers. Wasn't able to step up

1:02:18 > 1:02:25into finals.

1:02:25 > 1:02:31into finals. Easily the highest 720 score we have seen, 76.25, because

1:02:31 > 1:02:38of unorthodox rotation, but she wasn't able to reel in those big

1:02:38 > 1:02:44doubles that we have seen from Anna Gasser, Zoi Sadowski Synnott, Julia

1:02:44 > 1:02:52Marino and Laurie Blouin.

1:02:52 > 1:02:59Marino and Laurie Blouin. Next in, Sofya Fedorova. She does some big

1:02:59 > 1:03:08backflips. In training, we have seen a couple of cab double unders.

1:03:08 > 1:03:12a couple of cab double unders. The goofy-foot, dropping in forwards.

1:03:12 > 1:03:20The backside 720. She went big. A giveaway. Christopher Walken talks

1:03:20 > 1:03:35about it in True Romance, every man has a tail. Lovely jump, there go

1:03:35 > 1:03:41the arms. Just as she comes in, she realises she's gone a little bit too

1:03:41 > 1:03:46far, she had gone a bit bigger than she thought. And the judges getting

1:03:46 > 1:03:53a clear signal from Sofya Fedorova that she was out of control. She let

1:03:53 > 1:04:01go of the grab, early. Oh, I have gone a bit too big, she winds down

1:04:01 > 1:04:08the windows, still manages is to put it down cleanly, but we have seen

1:04:08 > 1:04:14720s in the high 60s, then we see a very unorthodox one beautifully

1:04:14 > 1:04:19accomplished by Jessika Jenson in the high 70s, but for Sofya

1:04:19 > 1:04:23Fedorova, she needs to up her game, there are, if she wants to make the

1:04:23 > 1:04:32top 12. At the moment, Enni Rukajarvi is in the top-10 spot. We

1:04:32 > 1:04:38still have eight more riders in the first runs here. Things have just

1:04:38 > 1:04:49been brought up to a simmer. Haven't really started to reduce this stock.

1:04:49 > 1:04:55The Swiss road very well, for me, she is one of the most courageous in

1:04:55 > 1:05:04the slopestyle finals. Lovely tweak on that backside 720. Neat grab,

1:05:04 > 1:05:14just pushing it out really nicely styled.

1:05:18 > 1:05:23She takes off, the front hand goes down to the toe edge, she

1:05:23 > 1:05:26straightens the front leg. Take another look at that take-off, she

1:05:26 > 1:05:33might have got a very quick grab in. No, it was just a trailing arm. It

1:05:33 > 1:05:39looked for a second like a grab, and she punches the middle of the board,

1:05:39 > 1:05:45down by the tail.

1:05:51 > 1:05:56down by the tail. Carla Somaini, another one of those riders out of

1:05:56 > 1:05:59Laas in Switzerland, who have been using that incredible snow party

1:05:59 > 1:06:06training. Of the standard 720s we have seen S definitely the biggest

1:06:06 > 1:06:13squirrel. Currently in 11th place. -- the biggest school. That pushes

1:06:13 > 1:06:23Enna Rukajarvi into 13th. So a lot of pressure building now. And we are

1:06:23 > 1:06:29seeing strength in depth in this field, of women really getting put

1:06:29 > 1:06:34to the test.

1:06:52 > 1:06:59Next in, Katerina Vojackova, this is very much about experience for the

1:06:59 > 1:07:10young Czech. A couple of decent World Cup results.

1:07:10 > 1:07:12World Cup results. Dropping in forwards, the double Wildcat and

1:07:12 > 1:07:18over rotates, goes really big. But she has come out with one of her

1:07:18 > 1:07:35biggest tricks first, the double backflip. She spins back up.

1:07:35 > 1:07:37backflip. She spins back up. Martin Cernik, who won the board crashed at

1:07:37 > 1:07:44the snowboard festival in the UK in the late 90s, you would have seen

1:07:44 > 1:07:49him plying his trade, he won that cup more than a few times. Big body

1:07:49 > 1:07:54grab, there.

1:07:58 > 1:08:00grab, there. From Katerina Vojackova, Andy left arm locks

1:08:00 > 1:08:03underneath the front leg. And the judges really don't like seeing

1:08:03 > 1:08:13that. She's got a body grab, and no board grab. Things that will

1:08:13 > 1:08:19highlight to the judges that the jump was left -- less than perfect.

1:08:19 > 1:08:29Katerina Vojackova is going to rely on her second run.

1:08:32 > 1:08:38She has the talent still -- there is a lot of talent still left to drop,

1:08:38 > 1:08:48though. 20th place for Katerina. It's all academic. Six riders left

1:08:48 > 1:08:58to drop. And this woman is very interesting, Slovakian, 24 years

1:08:58 > 1:09:03old, a frustrating 2017 for her, but you look back through the ages and

1:09:03 > 1:09:10she has been one of the trailblazers for women in terms of big air, first

1:09:10 > 1:09:15woman to land a front double ten. The first woman to take that into

1:09:15 > 1:09:27competition in 2017. And that's what she has gone for. The front side

1:09:27 > 1:09:33double cork 1080. Amazingly, she didn't have enough speed. So,

1:09:33 > 1:09:38brilliant free

1:09:39 > 1:09:42brilliant free rider and always throws it down and relaxed sessions

1:09:42 > 1:09:47but she has struggled. She goes frontside air double cork 1080. This

1:09:47 > 1:09:51one wouldn't look out of place in the men's competition. You have to

1:09:51 > 1:09:56feel for her, because she's been one of the trailblazers, she has just

1:09:56 > 1:10:04never got the podiums to match her trick repertoire.

1:10:04 > 1:10:08trick repertoire. She just can't settle herself, can't take the

1:10:08 > 1:10:14pressure at big competitions, I don't know, but it would be a

1:10:14 > 1:10:20travesty if Klaudia Medlova doesn't make the finals.

1:10:20 > 1:10:23make the finals. She obviously is confident. She must have thrown this

1:10:23 > 1:10:29trick down a lot in training.

1:10:32 > 1:10:35trick down a lot in training. Now the Czech rider, Sarka Pancochova,

1:10:35 > 1:10:46an integral figure in women's snowboarding over the last 15 years.

1:10:47 > 1:10:52Look up shop bales and mass attacks Web series, and you will see just

1:10:52 > 1:10:58how good she is.

1:10:59 > 1:11:06how good she is. -- shark tails. Not the most technical trick but nicely

1:11:06 > 1:11:14done, really nice style. Have a look at this. The ground is beautiful.

1:11:14 > 1:11:20And she really gives it a bit of whang in the middle. A little double

1:11:20 > 1:11:32poke, very tidy from Sarka Pancochova. Carving

1:11:32 > 1:11:35Pancochova. Carving hard, easing up the back leg, extends that front

1:11:35 > 1:11:42leg. Actually looks more subtle in slow motion. It was much more

1:11:42 > 1:11:49pronounced in real-time. Sarka Pancochova, 65.5. About what we were

1:11:49 > 1:11:59expecting for the 720. She has a unicorn. That is excellent news!

1:11:59 > 1:12:08Now, Isabel Derungs suffered a horrific leg break riding up a drag

1:12:08 > 1:12:12lift. Someone rode in tow, nothing she could do. She has been coming

1:12:12 > 1:12:20back from that. She's one of the old hands. -- someone rode into her. She

1:12:20 > 1:12:26has been on great form this season. The frontside air 720, she missed

1:12:26 > 1:12:36the grab, she will be really disappointed about that.

1:12:36 > 1:12:40disappointed about that. So, the Swiss, she has a lovely backside

1:12:40 > 1:12:45radio.

1:12:48 > 1:12:54radio. -- rodeo. Good to see that come out. Both hands hunting around

1:12:54 > 1:12:58for any kind of grab. She knew that she had locked into the rotation,

1:12:58 > 1:13:07she was spinning nicely, but just can't settle her upper body on top

1:13:07 > 1:13:13of the board. That's a perfect example of why snowboarders grab. A

1:13:13 > 1:13:22great indicator of control in a trick and if you're really in

1:13:22 > 1:13:27control, then you can start to throw the ball around, to tweak, poke and

1:13:27 > 1:13:36bonehead, as it is known in snowboarding. Highly

1:13:36 > 1:13:38snowboarding. Highly amusing double entendres but brilliant words to

1:13:38 > 1:13:41describe what you can do with the snowboard indy air, once you have it

1:13:41 > 1:13:47at your disposal.

1:13:47 > 1:13:53Next in, Jessica Rich has been looking very smooth in qualifying.

1:13:53 > 1:14:0227 years old. She knows the game. And just like we saw from Shaka

1:14:02 > 1:14:10panko Cove, there will be lashings of style.

1:14:10 > 1:14:19of style. -- Sarka Pancochova. The Australians have had a consistent is

1:14:19 > 1:14:23daily-macro presence in the Snowboarding. Very rare to see the

1:14:23 > 1:14:35front seven of the toes. It is called the toedeo.

1:14:35 > 1:14:38called the toedeo. You throw your body around the front of the board

1:14:38 > 1:14:45as you take-off. The toes are carving one way and the upper body

1:14:45 > 1:14:51spins the opposite way so it creates this lovely, conflicted rotation

1:14:51 > 1:14:56where the head leads to the front of the spin. Very difficult to land.

1:14:56 > 1:15:03Slow the rotation down. She lands on the toe edge and it fires her across

1:15:03 > 1:15:11the landing, but lays the elbow down.

1:15:18 > 1:15:24The kangaroo and

1:15:31 > 1:15:35the category in the Australian Olympics, Matt. Jessica Rich,

1:15:35 > 1:15:42waiting for her score. 73.5 so after Jessika Jenson it is the highest

1:15:42 > 1:15:52score we have seen for a 720. She will be stoked about that. For the

1:15:52 > 1:15:57next of our Japanese riders, fourth and final Japanese rider, they

1:15:57 > 1:16:07brought a full quota, just as the Americans have done.

1:16:07 > 1:16:14Americans have done. Just as the Swiss have as well. So Asami Hirono,

1:16:14 > 1:16:25next to drop. 27 years old.

1:16:27 > 1:16:35next to drop. 27 years old. Hasn't had the same success at big air.

1:16:35 > 1:16:41Going for a front side 900. Usually, one of the last directions of spin

1:16:41 > 1:16:49you will ever see from a rider. Switch backside always scores big

1:16:49 > 1:16:53points, but taking forward and landing backwards. One of the

1:16:53 > 1:16:57hardest tricks, you are going backwards and you to kill the

1:16:57 > 1:17:03rotation. Slipping out, it so difficult to land at that speed on

1:17:03 > 1:17:07your heels. You have less control on your heels when you do on your toes.

1:17:07 > 1:17:13On your toes, if you can imagine, your toe joints which can subtly

1:17:13 > 1:17:18adjust pressure on the edge, your ankles and your knees. And your

1:17:18 > 1:17:22heels, you cannot use your ankles, straight through your meals and the

1:17:22 > 1:17:27hips. Less movement is available and more position required. Let's see

1:17:27 > 1:17:33what Asami

1:17:34 > 1:17:40what Asami Hirono gets after falling foul of her frontside 900. At the

1:17:40 > 1:17:47top, the last rider of the women's big air qualification.

1:17:52 > 1:18:04big air qualification. Elena Koenz, from the south-east of Switzerland.

1:18:08 > 1:18:17Frontside 720. While it was clean, it was a little bit small. It was a

1:18:17 > 1:18:26little too upright. There was no firing into it, there was no pop, no

1:18:26 > 1:18:31explosion. She just flowed through the take-off, sliding into it. Only

1:18:31 > 1:18:38just clears the knuckle. Slides the board round. It is still a great

1:18:38 > 1:18:46trick, but at this level, we want to see more. First runs, as we watch

1:18:46 > 1:18:51this replay, this sums up the first runs for me. Very clean, very

1:18:51 > 1:19:00consistent. But, we are coasting. There is a lot more to come from all

1:19:00 > 1:19:06of the women riding here. So, the overwhelming strategy to get one in

1:19:06 > 1:19:20the bag. 19th place for Elena Koenz. 62 points. Top 12 at the moment,

1:19:20 > 1:19:20Carla

1:19:21 > 1:19:23Carla Somaini.

1:19:34 > 1:19:40Hailey Langland and Zoi Sadowski

1:19:42 > 1:19:48Synnott, Carla Somaini on the bubble. We have Jamie Anderson, look

1:19:48 > 1:19:57at that, in 23rd. Gold medallist from Slopestyle. Aimee Fuller in

1:19:57 > 1:20:0425th. Amy going for the cab under the lip, and if she lands that is,

1:20:04 > 1:20:10we will see her go to the other end of the leaderboard. Slopestyle

1:20:10 > 1:20:15requires consistency from top to bottom and favours the more

1:20:15 > 1:20:21experienced students of the game, but at big air, it is one, big

1:20:21 > 1:20:26trick. So anyone can come in. If you are interested, there is Figure

1:20:26 > 1:20:33Skating on the red button. If you want to watch the Figure Skating,

1:20:33 > 1:20:39you can head over to the red button. We will stay here for qualification

1:20:39 > 1:20:45run two of women's big air.

1:20:46 > 1:20:52run two of women's big air. We have got a day off before we visit, sorry

1:20:52 > 1:20:57two days off before we visit the finals for this. Setting up very

1:20:57 > 1:21:03early. We will be back on Friday the 23rd, very early in the morning for

1:21:03 > 1:21:08the three runs of finals. Before we can talk about finals, we need to

1:21:08 > 1:21:14decide who exactly is going there. We have 26 women competing. There

1:21:14 > 1:21:20are only 12 spots in the final. As I was just saying, those 12 spots are

1:21:20 > 1:21:26not going to go at the moment to the most experienced and biggest names

1:21:26 > 1:21:32in the game. Instead, because this is just the one biggest trick you

1:21:32 > 1:21:36have, it is favouring the young pretenders. We have seen a lot of

1:21:36 > 1:21:41big tricks going down, Anna Gasser, arguably not a big pretender. She

1:21:41 > 1:21:48was in such a 2014. She had just arrived on Snowboarding's biggest

1:21:48 > 1:21:53stage and made her presence felt with first place in qualification.

1:21:53 > 1:22:00She wasn't able to deliver in the Slopestyle. She had an ignominious

1:22:00 > 1:22:05slide down the start gate and had to go back up because the TV cameras

1:22:05 > 1:22:09were not ready. The mistakes she made in the run gave Jenny Jones a

1:22:09 > 1:22:14bronze medal. In the four years since then she has dragged women's

1:22:14 > 1:22:19Snowboarding into the 21st century, kicking and screaming. She has

1:22:19 > 1:22:25beaten Jamie Anderson on the biggest stage, the US open. And enforce

1:22:25 > 1:22:29Jamie Anderson's hand. Jamie Anderson, the gold medallist in

1:22:29 > 1:22:35Sochi. Last year, set about the water jump and airbag the Americans

1:22:35 > 1:22:42have installed in Park city. She is now the proud owner of a double. As

1:22:42 > 1:22:47I said, as she dropped earlier on, she hasn't needed it, her Slopestyle

1:22:47 > 1:22:51run is so strong, Jamie Anderson hasn't needed the double. She wasn't

1:22:51 > 1:22:58able to land its first go here, so she is under pressure. At the top of

1:22:58 > 1:23:05the jump it is Cheryl Maas. Unbelievably, she broke her neck and

1:23:05 > 1:23:12six blazes, diving into a swimming pool at the end of last season. --

1:23:12 > 1:23:19in six places. She has battled her way back. She goes down Axel you can

1:23:19 > 1:23:28hear the shrieks in the finish area. So disappointing the Cheryl Maas. I

1:23:28 > 1:23:33feel like I have said there's a lot, but we have a lot of the

1:23:33 > 1:23:38trailblazers of women's Snowboarding here. And Cheryl Maas, redefined

1:23:38 > 1:23:45what it was to be an urban rider in the early 2000. Urban riding is

1:23:45 > 1:24:00reimagining architecture, buildings, rails, sets of stairs, banks, walls.

1:24:00 > 1:24:05Beyond their first design purpose and instead looking at them as

1:24:05 > 1:24:10playthings. She would go out into the streets, slide enormous

1:24:10 > 1:24:17handrails. She was voted rider of the year by snowboarder. So, she has

1:24:17 > 1:24:23never quite had the success she deserves. She browse out here in the

1:24:23 > 1:24:32qualifiers. But I promise, it is not the last we will hear from her. Next

1:24:32 > 1:24:37in, Aimee Fuller of Great Britain. We saw her try the tumble under

1:24:37 > 1:24:43Philip on her first go.

1:24:43 > 1:24:47Philip on her first go. -- cab double under Philip. She was spotted

1:24:47 > 1:25:02and she went up to a camp in Mount Hood. Gone early. She went so big on

1:25:02 > 1:25:10the first hit, she tried to rotate a bit slower on the second. But she

1:25:10 > 1:25:15has gone a lot slower, whether the jump is warming up. That was a big

1:25:15 > 1:25:26hit. Amy, on all of her vital organs. Mrs the grab. Maybe that is

1:25:26 > 1:25:32the problem. She came up short. She landed just before the first line.

1:25:32 > 1:25:41On the first jump, she has opened out. She hasn't... Not getting the

1:25:41 > 1:25:44grab mean she has opened up. But she hasn't gone in with the same amount

1:25:44 > 1:25:56of speed. Disappointment for Aimee Fuller.Cheers, guys.She says thank

1:25:56 > 1:26:07you. 26-year-old. Came so close in Sochi. So unlucky in the Slopestyle

1:26:07 > 1:26:13and not able to lay it down here in the big air. Next in, Hailey

1:26:13 > 1:26:25Langland. I feel like she went very, very light on others.

1:26:27 > 1:26:32very light on others. -- on us. She is capable of the 1080. Which I

1:26:32 > 1:26:40think is one of the biggest tricks again.

1:26:41 > 1:26:44again. The double under flips we have just seen from Aimee Fuller, we

1:26:44 > 1:27:00have seen from Anna Gasser and we have seen from our first-place

1:27:00 > 1:27:13rider, Laurie Blouin. I think we will see the ten. Big spin. Nine.

1:27:13 > 1:27:18Beautiful and just the style on the turn at the end, she has hurt her

1:27:18 > 1:27:25shoulder.

1:27:25 > 1:27:29shoulder. So, there it is. She has been pushing through the separated

1:27:29 > 1:27:41shoulder all season. Little bit off axis. Obviously, the shoulder is

1:27:43 > 1:27:47coming from deck chairing the landing. She is such an exciting

1:27:47 > 1:27:52rider. One of the snowboarders you really want to see landing, because

1:27:52 > 1:28:01you know what she is capable of. So many tricks, so much style. So,

1:28:01 > 1:28:08Hailey Langland has a nervous wait. Currently intends with 73. It is not

1:28:08 > 1:28:16all over, but the big trick, we would have expected to have seen

1:28:19 > 1:28:25. You can see the two ski jumps facing the snowboard jump. One of

1:28:25 > 1:28:32the big traditional disciplines. When it comes to snow. Facing off

1:28:32 > 1:28:38against one of the new comers. That verb much the case for Spencer

1:28:38 > 1:28:42O'Brien, the Canadian. One of the biggest names in the game. She's had

1:28:42 > 1:28:49so much success. She opened with a win at the Dew Tour this year. Can

1:28:49 > 1:28:58she find a big trick now? Coached by the Austrian. One of the most

1:28:58 > 1:29:08stylish riders still out there. Won a lot of Big Air contests in his

1:29:08 > 1:29:12day. Spencer going off the toes again.

1:29:12 > 1:29:16CHEERING So, very, very clean, that time.

1:29:16 > 1:29:26She's gone for the same jump and cleaned it up. . She's got the

1:29:26 > 1:29:29switch backside 720, which is a very difficult trick. There is the no

1:29:29 > 1:29:36confidence in that smile or wave from Spencer there. She did let go

1:29:36 > 1:29:41again early. She sent it deep. The landing was really, really nice and

1:29:41 > 1:29:47easy. I feel... I feel like she's undersold herself here. She's

1:29:47 > 1:29:54capable of much, much more. She's gone very, very - dare I say it -

1:29:54 > 1:30:01she's painting my numbers with her ability of artistry. She hasn't

1:30:01 > 1:30:12backed herself here. Certainly the Canadians are happy, but... 76.75.

1:30:12 > 1:30:18So seventh place. I think facial expression said it all - she

1:30:18 > 1:30:25breathed a sigh of relief. She wasn't confident at all. Next in

1:30:25 > 1:30:30Sina Candrian, the Swiss rider. So, so strong. Especially with her

1:30:30 > 1:30:35frontside spins. We saw her go for the 1080. I hope she goes for this

1:30:35 > 1:30:43again. I don't want to see her back off here.

1:30:43 > 1:30:49One of the biggest tricks we will see today, if she can land it. She

1:30:49 > 1:30:54is lining up - yes! It's down! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:30:54 > 1:31:04Yes! Very, very nice. Sina Candrian delivers! That is going to be one of

1:31:04 > 1:31:10the top five spots. Most definitely! When we look at the tricks, a slight

1:31:10 > 1:31:14hand drag there, but three full spins. We really don't see many of

1:31:14 > 1:31:20those. Or, the wasn't in there for very long. Backhand just drags -

1:31:20 > 1:31:28almost a carbon copy of the 1080 we saw in Sochi four years ago. I know

1:31:28 > 1:31:35that because I watched it again and again and again on the replays.

1:31:35 > 1:31:42Because it was Sina Candrian's run that

1:31:44 > 1:31:48that threatened to put Jenny Jones into fourth place. It was a very big

1:31:48 > 1:31:55trick back then. It's clean. Let's see what she gets. Third place -

1:31:55 > 1:32:03very deservingly - with an 86. Sina Candrian, the woman who hasn't

1:32:03 > 1:32:10trained that much, has a spot - I would say almost guaranteed at this

1:32:10 > 1:32:22stage in the finals on Friday. Next-up Julia, currently in fourth.

1:32:22 > 1:32:33Lovely that cab double underflip. A more 900. More horizontal access.

1:32:33 > 1:32:38The persons making their voices heard. Wait patiently on this score

1:32:38 > 1:32:44and see if she can better that 83.75. Certainly it looked a lot

1:32:44 > 1:32:51cleaner.

1:32:54 > 1:33:02So, coming in backwards. Just drifting, floating in. Nasty split

1:33:02 > 1:33:08in her pants there. The Nasa outfits weren't built for snowboarding

1:33:08 > 1:33:18obviously! Cab double underflip. The American judges seemingly happy with

1:33:18 > 1:33:25that one. So, yeah, two-point - well, 1 .75 improvement.

1:33:25 > 1:33:30APPLAUSE 1.5 improvement even. My maths needs

1:33:30 > 1:33:39improving! Into fourth place. Just behind Sina Candrian. Next up: One

1:33:39 > 1:33:46of the most cherished squat rats. Her -- skate rats. Her parents

1:33:46 > 1:33:54bought snow park, the old snowboarding and freestyle skiing

1:33:54 > 1:33:58facility outside Wanaka in New Zealand. Zoi Sadowski Synnott has so

1:33:58 > 1:34:03impressed the snowboarding world. She stomped a huge double backflip

1:34:03 > 1:34:08on her first jump. It is only good enough for 13th at this stage. So

1:34:08 > 1:34:14what can she add? Where can she go? I don't think she can do that double

1:34:14 > 1:34:22backflip any better. Maybe she can keep it a bet tidier -- bit diddier.

1:34:22 > 1:34:29Dropping in switch. Switch becomeside! Yes! Oh! Yes! That was

1:34:29 > 1:34:33absolutely beautiful! CHEERING

1:34:33 > 1:34:39Switch back spins are the hardst rotation in snowboarding. The joint

1:34:39 > 1:34:42youngest rider here, Zoi Sadowski Synnott, has taken it on. I thought

1:34:42 > 1:34:47she'd overcooked it in the middle of that cork. Let's take a look at it.

1:34:47 > 1:34:55So concentrated on the cork. Switch becomeside 900! -- backside 900. I

1:34:55 > 1:35:01house it was a 540. Dare I say it that's the biggest trick we have

1:35:01 > 1:35:05seen so far today. It's what Spencer O'Brien had in her bag of tricks. It

1:35:05 > 1:35:11is what I wanted to see from her. But Zoi Sadowski Synnott - if you

1:35:11 > 1:35:19didn't know about her at slopestyle when she did the huge double wild --

1:35:19 > 1:35:24wildcat you do know! This young woman is going to go very, very far!

1:35:24 > 1:35:28I think it's the most technical trick we've seen so far. The judges

1:35:28 > 1:35:31do too! 92 points for the young New Zealander!

1:35:31 > 1:35:35CHEERING AND APPLAUSE We have been talking about the Kiwis

1:35:35 > 1:35:47in snowboarding since men's slopestyle where

1:35:47 > 1:35:50slopestyle where we saw Garcia-Knight. Garcia-Knight

1:35:50 > 1:35:57qualified in the men's in second place. The New Zealanders have

1:35:57 > 1:36:02completely rebuilt their freestyle programme since 2014. They have come

1:36:02 > 1:36:11out guns blazing. Next in - Brooke Voigt. A 24-year-old.

1:36:11 > 1:36:17CHEERING Backside 720. Just goes down! The

1:36:17 > 1:36:25drama unfolds here. But if you are looking

1:36:26 > 1:36:31looking for figure skating, Coombes and Butland are on the ice. Head

1:36:31 > 1:36:37over there now. So, after the majesty of Zoi Sadowski Synnott's

1:36:37 > 1:36:43switchback side 900, back down to earth with Brooke Voigt and the

1:36:43 > 1:36:47backside 720 - quite literally. Not able to put that one down. Great

1:36:47 > 1:36:51takeoff style. See, she's using that leading arm to go for the grab, but

1:36:51 > 1:36:58she doesn't get it. And then the upper body overrotates as she lands.

1:36:58 > 1:37:06Heavy on the tail. Brooke Voigt will not be making the finals. She isn't

1:37:06 > 1:37:13going to improve on that 67.75. Best she can hope for is 16th. There we

1:37:13 > 1:37:20have it. Current standings: Zoi Sadowski Synnott in first, Laurie

1:37:20 > 1:37:28Blouin in second, and Anna Gasser in third. Fourth place, Sina Candrian,

1:37:28 > 1:37:38Julia Marino in fifth. Now, all eyes on Jamie Anderson. Currently in 23rd

1:37:38 > 1:37:43place.

1:38:26 > 1:38:41And eighth. So the mute grab... She's got a good bit of rotation.

1:38:41 > 1:38:46It's not 90 degrees spin double backflip 90 degrees spin, it is

1:38:46 > 1:38:54actually bit of rotation through each of the corkscrews. So, - double

1:38:54 > 1:38:57under flip 9 is the official total. 90 points.

1:38:57 > 1:39:05CHEERING Mmm. I would say that's maybe a

1:39:05 > 1:39:10little high. Puts her in above Anna Gasser. For me Anna Gasser - on the

1:39:10 > 1:39:16same trick was a little bit cleaner. But Laurie Blouin - the Canadian -

1:39:16 > 1:39:21still in second place with the same trick. So, the judges just dividing

1:39:21 > 1:39:28up the cav double underflips there essentially. Now Rukajarvi. One of

1:39:28 > 1:39:31the most experienced riders who needs something big here. Currently

1:39:31 > 1:39:39in 16th. Dropping in switch. She too... Can go switchback side. But

1:39:39 > 1:39:47she's gone huge front... Switch frontside 1080 double cork. And the

1:39:47 > 1:39:55first big scalp is gone!

1:39:55 > 1:40:00first big scalp is gone! Cav double cork 1080 from any Enni Rukajarvi.

1:40:00 > 1:40:05And the bronze medallist from slopestyle, the silver medallist

1:40:05 > 1:40:09from Sochi fighting for the end of that rotation. She actually came

1:40:09 > 1:40:23down over the board. Such a shame! Big, big spin there. Spots the

1:40:23 > 1:40:31landing. And then really corks into the last 360 degrees, just deck

1:40:31 > 1:40:41chairs over the back of the board. So, Enni Rukajarvi - disappoint for

1:40:41 > 1:40:46her. She's managed her competition schedule so, so well over the last

1:40:46 > 1:40:51five years after suffering burn-out in 2013. Chronic fatigue. She came

1:40:51 > 1:40:56back and she took the silver in Sochi and then took another medal

1:40:56 > 1:41:04here, the bronze, in slopestyle. So, she can be very, very proud. Next in

1:41:04 > 1:41:12Reira Iwabuchi. The Japanese rider who has taken 2018 by storm with the

1:41:12 > 1:41:21trick that we will hopefully see now. Currently sat in ninth place on

1:41:21 > 1:41:2580 points. It's a gamble if she can't better that score. She will

1:41:25 > 1:41:32be, I think, very lucky to hold on to a qualification spot if she can't

1:41:32 > 1:41:38better that 80 points.

1:41:38 > 1:41:43better that 80 points. Drops in switch. So, we're not going to see a

1:41:43 > 1:41:45big trick that she's been warming up.

1:41:45 > 1:41:51CHEERING switch 900. That was a little bit

1:41:51 > 1:41:58cleaner than the first jump.

1:41:58 > 1:42:01cleaner than the first jump. A I'm very surprised. From what we have

1:42:01 > 1:42:07seen in training - some very clean and consistent 1080s - very

1:42:07 > 1:42:15surprised she hasn't used that trick here. Just a switch, frontside 900.

1:42:15 > 1:42:20The stalefish grab on it.

1:42:22 > 1:42:31So, off the heels. Yet, she's drifting off to the left. An optical

1:42:31 > 1:42:35illusion that one. On her heels she should be drifting more to the

1:42:35 > 1:42:43right. Look at that! Perfect landing! Absolutely stomps it.

1:42:43 > 1:42:50Little salute claim there. Japanese coach is very, very happy with that.

1:42:50 > 1:42:59So a big smile. Awaiting a score. I think it will be an improvement.

1:42:59 > 1:43:04Low-to-mid-80s, I think. But she needs to move up just to make

1:43:04 > 1:43:08herself safe. Three places I don't think is enough when you've got the

1:43:08 > 1:43:12likes of Silje Norednal - 92.75! CHEERING

1:43:12 > 1:43:22First place! Wow! Personally I disagree with that. I think that Zoi

1:43:22 > 1:43:26Sadowski Synnott was definitely better on the switchback side 900.

1:43:26 > 1:43:33It is a harder rotation. The judges rewarding the very, very clean

1:43:33 > 1:43:40landing there, the pop and the size of that jump, obviously. Next in -

1:43:40 > 1:43:50Yuka Fujimori. The 31-year-old. Second oldest here after Cheryl

1:43:50 > 1:43:53Maas. Winds up. Lovely! CHEERING

1:43:53 > 1:44:01Backside 900. Very, very nice. This is brilliant! We're starting to see

1:44:01 > 1:44:06exactly what the women are capable of. Look at how stoked she is as

1:44:06 > 1:44:11well! This is just qualifying A lot still being held back, but even at

1:44:11 > 1:44:16this level, we're starting to see the consistency that we saw in men's

1:44:16 > 1:44:21slopestyle ski finals yesterday. And it's beautiful! Get to see exactly

1:44:21 > 1:44:26what level the women are at. Huge there. Great style. Holding on to

1:44:26 > 1:44:31that grab all the way through. And on the strength of the scores we've

1:44:31 > 1:44:35seen for both Zoi Sadowski Synnott and Reira Iwabuchi this is going to

1:44:35 > 1:44:42be a big one! I tell you what - they thought it was something when a

1:44:42 > 1:44:47snowboarder cross-codes and took an Alpine gold medal. It is going to

1:44:47 > 1:44:50happen again here within snowboarding. It will be just as

1:44:50 > 1:44:53much of a shock if a 31-year-old... Look at that! 94.25!

1:44:53 > 1:44:57CHEERING AND APPLAUSE I was going to say if a snowboard

1:44:57 > 1:45:02cross-rider can cross the floor, aged 26, and come out and win a goal

1:45:02 > 1:45:06aged 31 -- gold medal aged 31 - it is just qualifying. We are going

1:45:06 > 1:45:13through the gears very, very nicely. Starting to get some real momentum

1:45:13 > 1:45:19on this final. This is yet another woman who could add some fuel to the

1:45:19 > 1:45:27fire. She's currently in 12th position on a 76. She is not going

1:45:27 > 1:45:33to want to sit there for too long. She needs this jump now to take her

1:45:33 > 1:45:39destiny into her own hands. Looking at those rankings, I have just

1:45:39 > 1:45:44noticed that Hailey Langland has dropped out of the top 12. So,

1:45:44 > 1:45:51dropping in - switch! Double grab. 900. Sits back! Just a little bit...

1:45:51 > 1:45:55CHEERING Hand to her heart. Just to calm

1:45:55 > 1:46:03herself. She was obviously nervous about that one. So, did she get a

1:46:03 > 1:46:09cleaner takeoff? That's one of the big questions. She's certainly gone

1:46:09 > 1:46:13bigger. Got the double grab again. Not both hands, but one grab, then

1:46:13 > 1:46:19the other grab. Sits back. Let's see it. Almost 180 - yes! Way better on

1:46:19 > 1:46:30the takeoff. The grabs... It is the same hand. Melon grab to mute grab.

1:46:30 > 1:46:36But we saw how much the judges enjoyed Zoi Sadowski Synnott and

1:46:36 > 1:46:44Reira Iwabuchi's landings. So, they are - I think they are going to mark

1:46:44 > 1:46:51her down for this one.

1:46:53 > 1:47:00She waves while waiting on tenterhooks. 77.5. So, cleaner

1:47:00 > 1:47:05takeoff, more pop, gives her a little more. And it pushes her up

1:47:05 > 1:47:13two spots. It is now Jessika Jenson on the bubble. But bib number 1,

1:47:13 > 1:47:20Anna Gasser, is in the start gate. Currently in sixth place. She was in

1:47:20 > 1:47:26second place at the end of round 1, but way more consistency from some

1:47:26 > 1:47:32of the big guns has seen her drop down. Can she reinstate herself for

1:47:32 > 1:47:36the top of the standings? CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:47:36 > 1:47:40Switch, frontside double cork 1080! That is the top spot!

1:47:40 > 1:47:44CHEERING Wow! This is heating up very, very

1:47:44 > 1:47:50nicely now. We have seen some really, really big tricks. And it

1:47:50 > 1:47:53isn't without a little bit of sentiment -- sentimentality that I

1:47:53 > 1:47:57mention some of the big names that are being retired by these big

1:47:57 > 1:48:05tricks. Enni Rukajarvi, Spencer O'Brien, Cheryl Maas... Really,

1:48:05 > 1:48:09really strong riders who just haven't been able to keep up with

1:48:09 > 1:48:14this, the phenomenal level of progression in women's Big Air and

1:48:14 > 1:48:19slopestyle snowboarding. This is what we missed out on in slopestyle

1:48:19 > 1:48:25the other day. Anna Gasser managing to - did she keep the trailing arm

1:48:25 > 1:48:33off the snow? No. A tiny touch. But on a trick that big, that

1:48:33 > 1:48:38progressive - look at that smile! A 98!

1:48:38 > 1:48:43CHEERING AND APPLAUSE The judges sending it now! I have

1:48:43 > 1:48:49been looking at those top spots. A very, very interesting mix. For a

1:48:49 > 1:48:53while we had Zoi Sadowski Synnott and Reira Iwabuchi - the two

1:48:53 > 1:48:5716-year-olds - dominating. Then the 31-year-old jumped up to the top in

1:48:57 > 1:49:02the shape of Yuka Fujimori. And now Anna Gasser has reinstated herself

1:49:02 > 1:49:12with a cab double cork 1080. Now it's the turn of... Going for a

1:49:12 > 1:49:22diddier version, the cab 900. We calm things down just a touch.

1:49:22 > 1:49:26Currently in ninth -- Miyabi Onitsuka currently in ninth. Get the

1:49:26 > 1:49:30real scale of this jump. For the women it is absolutely perfect. It

1:49:30 > 1:49:36would be remiss of me not to mention that for the men it isn't quite as

1:49:36 > 1:49:41big as it could be. But at this moment, I really don't care, because

1:49:41 > 1:49:45the jump is perfect for the women. They have been raving about it all

1:49:45 > 1:49:53week. It really is giving us the very, very best of women's

1:49:53 > 1:49:58snowboarding at the moment. Letting go of the grab touch a touch early

1:49:58 > 1:50:02there. But I think overall it's a little bit cleaner than her first

1:50:02 > 1:50:14jump. So, she could improve on the 81.75 we saw first time around.

1:50:17 > 1:50:2081.75 we saw first time around. Very popular celebration - rabbit ears

1:50:20 > 1:50:27with the mits, the bottom of the slopestyle course, big Air and

1:50:27 > 1:50:38halfpipe. So the judges... They are deliberating over this one long and

1:50:38 > 1:50:47hard. The cameraman getting a good reflection shot.

1:50:47 > 1:50:59Hmm. I don't see why this one should be taking... 86.5. I think they are

1:50:59 > 1:51:02probably looking at Jessika Jenson on the bubble and what they want to

1:51:02 > 1:51:13see. There is a very big gap at the moment between ninth and 10th.

1:51:13 > 1:51:15moment between ninth and 10th. Eight points between Julia Marino and

1:51:15 > 1:51:20Silje Norednal. The judges are probably saying that the 85 -

1:51:20 > 1:51:26mid-80s - is where they would like to see the finals. But Laurie Blouin

1:51:26 > 1:51:32will not have any bearing on those positions at the moment. It is only

1:51:32 > 1:51:36gong to be the running order for the finals that she can adjust, because

1:51:36 > 1:51:38she's currently in fifth. CHEERING

1:51:38 > 1:51:44She's gone huge! Isn't it all the way to the bottom! Not as tidy as

1:51:44 > 1:51:52some of the cab double underflips we've seen. Only because she did go

1:51:52 > 1:51:56enormous. So, what do the judges make of this? Do they want to see it

1:51:56 > 1:52:03clean or do they want to see it big? Blouin into that -- floating into

1:52:03 > 1:52:08that. The takeoff was lovely. Wasn't rushing. Really, really patient.

1:52:08 > 1:52:16Just falling gently off her heels into this. Laurie Blouin, one of the

1:52:16 > 1:52:21riders who's worked so hard at maximise - the facility in Canada -

1:52:21 > 1:52:26where they have a rope tow that you can ride again and again and again,

1:52:26 > 1:52:31up to 12 hours a day, just dialling tricks in, with an airbag, then with

1:52:31 > 1:52:36the chopped up landing... Until you get it absolutely perfect. Laurie

1:52:36 > 1:52:43Blouin one of the riders who has benefitted from that. 92.25. She

1:52:43 > 1:52:49moves up one spot. Unbelievably, Zoi Sadowski Synnott's incredible switch

1:52:49 > 1:52:56backside 900 has now been pushed down into fifth place. There you can

1:52:56 > 1:53:00say Reira Iwabuchi in third. Yuka Fujimori in second. And Anna Gasser

1:53:00 > 1:53:06in first. Jessika Jenson in desperate need of a big score now.

1:53:06 > 1:53:19She had that lovely offaccess 720 first jump. Where can she go?

1:53:20 > 1:53:27CHEERING Oh! I don't know... That's a really

1:53:27 > 1:53:33interesting decision. I don't know if she could have gone any better.

1:53:33 > 1:53:39The first run was so perfect. I can only surmise from that that's her

1:53:39 > 1:53:46biggest trick. . She had nowhere else to go. It's a beautiful late

1:53:46 > 1:53:47dip 720.

1:53:50 > 1:53:57Watch. She comes off the toes, but then let's herself float backwards.

1:53:57 > 1:54:02And then dips her head here. Underneath the board. Really

1:54:02 > 1:54:06unorthodox rotation, but she makes it look so good.

1:54:07 > 1:54:13Down. But the upper body weight is just over the back leg a bit too

1:54:13 > 1:54:21much. Clinging valiantly to the back of that. Looked like a run away

1:54:21 > 1:54:28stall on, didn't -- stallion, didn't it? Unfortunately could get the

1:54:28 > 1:54:35reins on it's. 39.75. A very nervous wait for Jessika Jenson, who is in

1:54:35 > 1:54:3812th place.

1:54:42 > 1:54:50We have eight riders still to drop. Sofya Fedorova, the Russian. I have

1:54:50 > 1:54:55seen her ride and I have seen her look really, really loose and quite

1:54:55 > 1:54:59wild. But in slopestyle, in difficult conditions, she looked

1:54:59 > 1:55:05really clean last Monday. Backside 720. A little bit under-rotated. Not

1:55:05 > 1:55:13enough speed. Not enough purchase on the takeoff. And the Russian will

1:55:13 > 1:55:17not be advancing into the finals.

1:55:25 > 1:55:32But great experience for Fedorova. She's come here and ridden on the

1:55:32 > 1:55:38biggest stage. Just 19-year-old. So, in women's snowboarding, you see a

1:55:38 > 1:55:45lot of the women coming into their prime mid--to-late 20s. If you think

1:55:45 > 1:55:55Jenny Jones was 33 when she won her bronze, we have Cheryl Maas here at

1:55:55 > 1:56:0133, few -- Yuka Fujimori at 31. A longer shelf life in the women's

1:56:01 > 1:56:04snowboarding than there is in the men's. Billy Morgan, one of the

1:56:04 > 1:56:18older riders at 27 in the men's. Shaun White an exception at 31. So,

1:56:18 > 1:56:24next in - Carla Somaini. The 26-year-old goofy-footer. Won her

1:56:24 > 1:56:35first event in the build-up to these games - the Big Air. She came fifth

1:56:35 > 1:56:41in the test event here. She's got pedigree in Korea. Can she make it

1:56:41 > 1:56:43pay now when it counts?

1:56:45 > 1:56:50Currently in 19th. She needs to improve on that first run score. She

1:56:50 > 1:56:58can't. She will be really, really disappointed by that. We were

1:56:58 > 1:57:04robbed. I was really excited to watch her ride in her home resort at

1:57:04 > 1:57:09the Europe Open this year. The biggest contest on European soil,

1:57:09 > 1:57:14but the women's slopestyle was cancelled and we were robbed of

1:57:14 > 1:57:17seeing her ride on home soil which I think would have given a great

1:57:17 > 1:57:24indicator of just how far she's come. She had one very nice run at

1:57:24 > 1:57:32the slopestyle a week ago. But, sadly, unable to deliver here at Big

1:57:32 > 1:57:36Air.

1:57:38 > 1:57:42Air. As it stands at the moment, the Swiss have bought a full contingent

1:57:42 > 1:57:48of four riders, and they only have one in the top 12 in the shape of

1:57:48 > 1:57:56Sina Candrian. So, Carla Somaini - that run 1 score only good enough

1:57:56 > 1:57:56for 19th

1:58:16 > 1:58:23Next up, cat Ripa Vojackova. What are we going to get from the

1:58:23 > 1:58:3221-year-old Czech rider. She's been riding under Martin Chenick. She's

1:58:32 > 1:58:40gone short! Really short. Oh, terrible mistake. Just killed too

1:58:40 > 1:58:45much speed at the top there. And she had committed so heavily to that. I

1:58:45 > 1:58:49was very, very worried she was going to come up on the knuckle halfway

1:58:49 > 1:58:57through that second flip. Oh, look at that! It was so close. Very, very

1:58:57 > 1:59:08lucky to get away with that. Just a big old hit in the solar plexus, I'd

1:59:08 > 1:59:14Madge. Could have been worse - exposing all of her vital organs to

1:59:14 > 1:59:23the knuckle there. The arms - oh. Still, the snow here in Korea is

1:59:23 > 1:59:31always subzero. Despite the sunny condition, the sunny outlook, it is

1:59:31 > 1:59:39ice-cold here and the snow reflects that. Now, Klaudia Medlova, first

1:59:39 > 1:59:44woman to land the double backside rodeo 900. First woman to land the

1:59:44 > 1:59:50frontside double cork 1080. Can she make all of this progress pay in a

1:59:50 > 1:59:57competitive arena? I hope so! That is beautiful! No! The rotation, the

1:59:57 > 2:00:09grab, the height, everything was there. But Medlova can't put it down

2:00:09 > 2:00:13and the best rider never to win in competition continues that

2:00:13 > 2:00:23tradition. Oh, what a disappointment! I feel like we have

2:00:23 > 2:00:29been cheated ever so slightly.

2:00:29 > 2:00:32been cheated ever so slightly. -- slightly from seeing Klaudia ride in

2:00:32 > 2:00:38the finals. Very, very good rider, but you can't that it hasn't been

2:00:38 > 2:00:43the perennial issue with Klaudia Medlova. She just doesn't seem to be

2:00:43 > 2:00:49able to replicate the progressive nature of her riding in competition.

2:00:49 > 2:00:58So we go back up to the top. We see Sarka Pancochova, one of the most

2:00:58 > 2:01:03enduring images from the slopes - women's slopestyle in 2014 with

2:01:03 > 2:01:10Sarka Pancochova. Riding away from an enormous slam in the rider's area

2:01:10 > 2:01:13at the bottom holding her helmet which had split clean in two with

2:01:13 > 2:01:23the impact. So dropping in forwards. She's a regular rider, going for the

2:01:23 > 2:01:32900. Oh! Everything about that, she knew she got the 720 as good as she

2:01:32 > 2:01:37could get it, but you got the feeling she knew she got the 7, so

2:01:37 > 2:01:42she may as well go for a nine and see if it could make it workThank

2:01:42 > 2:01:45you, guys.Unfortunately, that trick certainly not the finished article

2:01:45 > 2:01:51for her. The body position was wrong and body language here, she actually

2:01:51 > 2:01:59braces for impact. -- impact in the last 180. She's not settled and

2:01:59 > 2:02:08ready to control the board. So Sarka Pancochova enjoying what will sadly

2:02:08 > 2:02:15be her last Olympic experience, I'd imagine. Another one of the big

2:02:15 > 2:02:20names in women's snowboarding who has been retired by the doubles we

2:02:20 > 2:02:29see dominating the top spots there. Anna Gasser, Yuka Fujimori, Reira

2:02:29 > 2:02:32Iwabuchi, Laurie Blouin, Zoi Sadowski Synnott with that

2:02:32 > 2:02:38incredible switchback nine. Now, it's Isabel Derungs. Made finals at

2:02:38 > 2:02:42slopestyle in Sochi, qualified first in her heat and banked the fourth

2:02:42 > 2:02:45highest score of anyone in qualifying, but then fell in both

2:02:45 > 2:02:53runs. She injured herself. A masters in environmental science, can she

2:02:53 > 2:03:01master this environment? Frontside 720. She's landed her trick, but I

2:03:01 > 2:03:09think we have seen the 720s at best making it to 76. That is the

2:03:09 > 2:03:15threshold score at the moment with Jessika Jenson, and put this

2:03:15 > 2:03:21frontside 7 with a very short grab up against that majestic backside

2:03:21 > 2:03:25720 we saw from Jessika Jenson and it's not going to hold up. Great

2:03:25 > 2:03:34scale on this jump there. The 20m table top. This jump is going to

2:03:34 > 2:03:41provide a very, very interesting stage for the men who qualify

2:03:41 > 2:03:44tomorrow because this is so far within their comfort zone and within

2:03:44 > 2:03:53the women's. It means - there we go 59.25. Back to what I was saying -

2:03:53 > 2:03:57the women are very, very comfortable on that jump so the men will be

2:03:57 > 2:04:03equally so and in that case, as we have seen here, it becomes about the

2:04:03 > 2:04:10biggest tricks and how stylishly you can do them. That is always a treat.

2:04:10 > 2:04:14It's not spin-to-win with quad corks where there's no room for any style.

2:04:14 > 2:04:20Instead we'll see all the biggest tricks up to the quad corks, done

2:04:20 > 2:04:27with an amazing array of grabs and laissez faire style. Now, Jessica

2:04:27 > 2:04:32Rich, beautiful frontside 720 off her toes. Currently sat in 13th

2:04:32 > 2:04:37place. So Jessika Jenson will be nervous if she can really float

2:04:37 > 2:04:46through this. Beautiful! It was beautiful. So two 720s effectively

2:04:46 > 2:04:50going up against each other. Jessica Rich is frontside version of the

2:04:50 > 2:04:57toes against Jessika Jenson's backside version. She just dips her

2:04:57 > 2:05:07head late, grab is lovely on that. Landing is clean. If not completely

2:05:07 > 2:05:15- it's such a lovely spin. It was considered - it was massively

2:05:15 > 2:05:22popular in the late '90s, 98, 99. Like anything that's incredibly

2:05:22 > 2:05:26fashionable, the phase or a fad, it went out of fashion incredibly

2:05:26 > 2:05:33quickly. But it's been the women who have brought it back. 74.25. It was

2:05:33 > 2:05:38an improvement, but not enough to knock Jessika Jenson out of

2:05:38 > 2:05:44qualifying spots. So Jenson has another run with just two riders

2:05:44 > 2:05:52left to drop. It's nervous times for the Americans at the moment who

2:05:52 > 2:05:56already have Jamie Anderson and Julia Marino in the qualifying

2:05:56 > 2:06:09spots. They are guaranteed Spencer O'Brien and Jessika

2:06:09 > 2:06:11O'Brien and Jessika Jenson waiting nervously now as Asami Hirono drops

2:06:11 > 2:06:19in.

2:06:41 > 2:06:45Asami Hirono, just waiting for the wind again. She wasn't happy the

2:06:45 > 2:06:47first time around, if you remember.

2:06:56 > 2:07:01So you can see the flag there, great shot that gives us an indication of

2:07:01 > 2:07:09what the wind is doing. And it is an issue for the lighter riders. They

2:07:09 > 2:07:15can get really pushed around. It's like this, and that certainly

2:07:15 > 2:07:19applies a lot of the Japanese riders. Reira Iwabuchi is absolutely

2:07:19 > 2:07:24tiny. The 16-year-old really struggles for speed sometimes. Go

2:07:24 > 2:07:29for... Frontside 1080!

2:07:30 > 2:07:34for... Frontside 1080! Wow, she really, really wanted that and that

2:07:34 > 2:07:38is a brilliant barometer of just how hard the women are pushing in this

2:07:38 > 2:07:48qualifier. So coming around to 720 there, got another 360 to go and

2:07:48 > 2:07:51she's so unlucky, just underrotates. If she had gone a tiny, tiny big

2:07:51 > 2:07:56quicker. If she let go on the run-in, really sent that, she would

2:07:56 > 2:08:03have made it. She was centred over the board perfectly there. So she

2:08:03 > 2:08:09lands early there. She needs another - just two or three feet. Tiny, tiny

2:08:09 > 2:08:17bit more speed. That is the cruelty. So Asami Hirono - 37.75. And that

2:08:17 > 2:08:22means that at the top of the standings, Spencer O'Brien is

2:08:22 > 2:08:35assured qualification. Just one rider left to drop - Elena Koenz and

2:08:35 > 2:08:40Jessika Jenson, I think on paper certainly, in all of the

2:08:40 > 2:08:43competitions I have seen them both ride in, Jessika Jenson has the

2:08:43 > 2:08:48measure of Elena Koenz. Koenz is going to need to step a long way out

2:08:48 > 2:08:55of her comfort zone. -- zone to beat Jessika Jenson. She needs a jump

2:08:55 > 2:09:04with 76. 25.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Slightly over-rotated but a lot, lot

2:09:04 > 2:09:08cleaner, a lot more impressive than her first jump but again we come

2:09:08 > 2:09:15back to the debate - it's a very, very easy comparison. 720 for 720.

2:09:15 > 2:09:27Jessika Jenson's was a lot better. So Elena Koenz letting go of that

2:09:27 > 2:09:31grab early and, yeah, it's Jessika Jenson all the way for me on this

2:09:31 > 2:09:39one. It will be a slight improvement for Elena Koenz. She currently in

2:09:39 > 2:09:4221st out of 26.

2:09:55 > 2:10:04Maybe 67, 68 I think is possible.

2:10:05 > 2:10:10The judges taking their time making sure they get this one right. I

2:10:10 > 2:10:18think Elena's face says it all. Looking back, just waiting. This

2:10:18 > 2:10:28final has been brilliant. 65.75. After the fiasco that was the

2:10:28 > 2:10:33wind-affected final in slopestyle, we have seen the - have been given a

2:10:33 > 2:10:39glimpse, I should say, what the women are capable here. Anna Gasser,

2:10:39 > 2:10:47number one seed in World Cup, takes the lead here. The two Japanese

2:10:47 > 2:10:54women, Iwabuchi and Fujimori there, Blouin. Zoi Sadowski Synnott a very

2:10:54 > 2:11:01solid performance from her.

2:11:05 > 2:11:11Hailey Langland we expected to see in the mix, and Enni Rukajarvi the

2:11:11 > 2:11:15experienced Fin are out. And Cheryl Maas and Sarka Pancochova not making

2:11:15 > 2:11:21it and in 25th, Aimee Fuller not making it after two valiant attempts

2:11:21 > 2:11:23at her cab double flip.
