0:01:16 > 0:01:23# It takes two, baby # It takes two, baby start solving

0:01:23 > 0:01:35to make a dream come true. # What a great day for this team.And

0:01:35 > 0:01:43there is Bishoo McNeill. -- Mica McNeill.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46They've been crowdfunded to get to Pyeongchang and now Mica McNeill

0:01:46 > 0:01:48and Mica Moore stand just 0.16 seconds away from a bronze

0:01:48 > 0:01:50medal after two runs of the women's bobsleigh.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52It's an extraordinary story because they are

0:01:52 > 0:01:53the ultimate underdogs...

0:01:53 > 0:01:58We will see their third round at 11:40am. That is all coming up live

0:01:58 > 0:02:02this morning. But it has been a really interesting night in the

0:02:02 > 0:02:07curling. My first question is, did you sleep at all?Not much last

0:02:07 > 0:02:13night at all. Two very tense games to watch. And we will shake you the

0:02:13 > 0:02:17highlights of those, in case you haven't seen them yet, but this is

0:02:17 > 0:02:23what's coming up on BBC One between now and 1pm. As Rhona mentioned, the

0:02:23 > 0:02:27great British men and women both involved in crucial games last

0:02:27 > 0:02:32night. We will show you how they got on, battling for places in the

0:02:32 > 0:02:39semifinals. And in the team sprint, the

0:02:39 > 0:02:45Norwegian is going for one more medal to become the most decorated

0:02:45 > 0:02:50Olympian of all time.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54Up, up and away with the event that's

0:02:54 > 0:02:56got everyone talking - it was qualification day

0:02:56 > 0:02:57for the men in Big Air.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59You've got to see it to believe it.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02The Dutch can double up in the men's and women's team skating.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Leading the way for them will be superstars Ireen

0:03:04 > 0:03:05Wust and Sven Kramer.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Flying down the mountain at full force, Lindsay Vonn was trying

0:03:08 > 0:03:10to regain the downhill title she last won in Vancouver.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13And in a couple of hours, we'll be heading off

0:03:13 > 0:03:16to the Sliding Track to see if the two M's - Mica and Mica -

0:03:16 > 0:03:19can bob up the order in the final two runs.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Can they make their dream come true? We will be doing curling next and

0:03:22 > 0:03:25then we will catch up with the women's downhill.

0:03:36 > 0:03:42The men's team sprint hopefully featuring the British Andrews.

0:03:42 > 0:03:48Mainly, it is live sport all the ways. Quite often, there is a gap at

0:03:48 > 0:03:53this time of day and there's nothing happening but today there is. Now,

0:03:53 > 0:03:57Rhona has lived curling all her life, she has been to the Olympics,

0:03:57 > 0:04:05she is an Olympic champion, she is at how many times world champion?

0:04:05 > 0:04:13None.OK, but she has been to a lot. Check that one! Now, curling, a lot

0:04:13 > 0:04:19of different things can happen. Just explain it.It's simple. They just

0:04:19 > 0:04:23need to win.That simple.

0:04:23 > 0:04:24explain it.It's simple. They just need to win. That simple. Here is

0:04:24 > 0:04:28how the standings where for the women going into their final game.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32As you can see, South Korea have already qualified. Sweden are in

0:04:32 > 0:04:36second with five wins but also with five wins we have got Great Britain

0:04:36 > 0:04:43and Japan. So, they were up against Canada. Now, Canada have had a bit

0:04:43 > 0:04:48of a shocker. If they could beat Canada, Canada would be out. This is

0:04:48 > 0:04:58the end of end three and Rhona, Canadians? We have got the hammer at

0:04:58 > 0:05:01this end so Great Britain are one down and need to try to sport to you

0:05:01 > 0:05:06at this end with a hammer. But Canada are really putting the

0:05:06 > 0:05:13pressure on Great Britain here. It just comes up short. So, Canada do

0:05:13 > 0:05:22light to but even has got room to draw into that.

0:05:23 > 0:05:27draw into that.Anna Sloan standing with the brush to mark the spot at

0:05:27 > 0:05:33which she once Eve Muirhead to aim. You have coached Eve Muirhead for

0:05:33 > 0:05:39four years. She seems to be someone who loves pressure. She does. She

0:05:39 > 0:05:43leaves herself big shots and it's always in the latter half of the

0:05:43 > 0:05:49game. She keeps things tight and then goes for it. Just a wee bit

0:05:49 > 0:05:54heavy there, Canada sweeping and Canada steal one.So, as we move

0:05:54 > 0:06:01into the eighth end, the pressure is on. And Canada, still with back to

0:06:01 > 0:06:07stone advantage, so leading 4-2. Yes, and British have tried every

0:06:07 > 0:06:11end with the hammer and haven't managed to score their two. They

0:06:11 > 0:06:21have played a clinical end here to try to score two. Eve going for a

0:06:21 > 0:06:25really important hit and roll here to put the pressure on Canada

0:06:25 > 0:06:30because she has that second counter on the head and she plays a

0:06:30 > 0:06:34fantastic hit and roll. It means Canada struggle to remove that and

0:06:34 > 0:06:39keep their encounter in the house. So she plays it to perfection. It

0:06:39 > 0:06:46rolls right over on top and lies short. So, it's not easy but Canada

0:06:46 > 0:06:53to remove and keep your shooter in the house. They tried to hold it,

0:06:53 > 0:06:59but, no, so they roll out and leave even with an open draw or two.And

0:06:59 > 0:07:06she had been waiting for a while to get back, G?Yes, it's about

0:07:06 > 0:07:10constantly trying to force that error from your opposition and the

0:07:10 > 0:07:13great thing here is that as soon as Canada made a mistake, Great Britain

0:07:13 > 0:07:20capitalised. This is a lovely draw for two there. And not even having

0:07:20 > 0:07:24to sweep too much. That meant that Great Britain were back level again

0:07:24 > 0:07:28as we head into the closing stages of end nine and this is where we

0:07:28 > 0:07:36will pick up commentary Jackie Lockhart. She was an Olympic -- a

0:07:36 > 0:07:43world champion but not an Olympic champion, right?Correct. Well done.

0:07:48 > 0:07:57So, Eve Muirhead here, you can see in terms of this shot, the draw, her

0:07:57 > 0:08:00accuracy has been left wanting a little bit in this match,

0:08:00 > 0:08:07particularly early on. She was short on a couple. That is heavy. It is

0:08:07 > 0:08:12high at the moment.Heavy and hide. This could be tricky, tricky,

0:08:12 > 0:08:19tricky.

0:08:19 > 0:08:25tricky. By Eve's standards, that missed by a long way.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30missed by a long way.So, how long is Rachel going to take to make the

0:08:30 > 0:08:37decision here? They need to come and sit right on it, the same as we

0:08:37 > 0:08:44wanted to do that.

0:08:44 > 0:08:49wanted to do that.If she sits on top of it, bought two, obviously,

0:08:49 > 0:08:53does Eve then try to get rid of them?It depends how much she can

0:08:53 > 0:08:58see of them. That's why, if she comes out on top and she's sitting a

0:08:58 > 0:09:04little wide of it, if she get this wrong, my point is that Eve could

0:09:04 > 0:09:10take both stoned that?Yes, but there is not a lot of room for that.

0:09:10 > 0:09:16Yes, but if she is white? If she doesn't get this tucked in?She

0:09:16 > 0:09:19needs to be high across the centre line to make it very difficult for

0:09:19 > 0:09:26us. By the same token, if she is too high, we still probably have the

0:09:26 > 0:09:30draw in behind, say Canada need to be right on top of the T-line here.

0:09:30 > 0:09:39Stone placement is key.

0:09:39 > 0:09:43Stone placement is key.Yes, I would play a different shot, but only

0:09:43 > 0:09:49because of the way Rachel Homan is playing. No, this is what she has to

0:09:49 > 0:09:59play, because if she doesn't get in there... There still is an

0:09:59 > 0:10:09opportunity with reds behind the T-line for Britain to get there.

0:10:09 > 0:10:16Just tucked in in the end. Eve might be able to get to it.She could have

0:10:16 > 0:10:19afforded to take that two or three inches more but they were just kind

0:10:19 > 0:10:26of scared. She is looking for a run back of the two at the front.I

0:10:26 > 0:10:32can't see the angles from here. They are not completely lined up. They

0:10:32 > 0:10:38are almost lined up. Eve is just having a look. Got to be careful

0:10:38 > 0:10:48here.I think that is Mr Nichol, head of British curling. I hope I

0:10:48 > 0:10:53have got that right.I hope so all you have no chance of getting

0:10:53 > 0:11:04selected for the world CBS.Just ruined my chances.-- I hope so all

0:11:04 > 0:11:10you have got no chance of getting selected for the world seniors. He

0:11:10 > 0:11:16has been here all week and he and his wife have really enjoyed this.

0:11:16 > 0:11:20Eve Muirhead have to try to use those front two yellows, run them

0:11:20 > 0:11:30back onto the Canadian red. They will still have a good chance for at

0:11:30 > 0:11:34least one, maybe to you on how these sit. Can she moved both of them?

0:11:34 > 0:11:38That is a great shot from Eve Muirhead. She might even be sitting

0:11:38 > 0:11:46to hear. Eve Muirhead with a cracker! What a shot. Well thought

0:11:46 > 0:11:54out, well executed. That was a peach. Got the angles right, got the

0:11:54 > 0:11:59weight right and, to be fair, maybe a bit of luck. That Canadian stone

0:11:59 > 0:12:08just spinning away beyond the two British stones.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10British stones. That really is telling Rachel Homan I am here and

0:12:10 > 0:12:16if you want to win this game, you are going to have to beat me.A jump

0:12:16 > 0:12:20in the air for joy for Eve Muirhead and why not. The best shot of the

0:12:20 > 0:12:27match. And what has that done to the situation for Rachel Homan? How are

0:12:27 > 0:12:33your nerves, Rachel Homan?

0:12:33 > 0:12:36your nerves, Rachel Homan? First slip from Emma Miskew. Coming in for

0:12:36 > 0:12:45the one. They wouldn't be wanting the one here. This will really knock

0:12:45 > 0:12:56the wind out of her sales.Let's release.It looks pretty good, so I

0:12:56 > 0:13:00think she's not looking as nervously, but it will be the one

0:13:00 > 0:13:04shot ball Canada here and that's exactly what Britain wanted to do,

0:13:04 > 0:13:06force the 1-mac.

0:13:10 > 0:13:20-- force the one. So, a wonderful shot from Eve Muirhead means that

0:13:20 > 0:13:25Canada just take the one. They are leading after nine ends. One end

0:13:25 > 0:13:32left, of course, Great Britain with the hammer. Two to win, one to type.

0:13:32 > 0:13:37Then we would be into an extra end with Canada with the hammer. It is

0:13:37 > 0:13:43all to play for here. She has no other option here other than to move

0:13:43 > 0:13:47these stones around and hope that things fall nicely for her. Eve

0:13:47 > 0:13:54Muirhead still has two to come. Rachel Homan with real intent and

0:13:54 > 0:14:01she needs to give this a bit of welly. A technical term. This is the

0:14:01 > 0:14:05shot she likes though. And that is out wide. She has sprung two of

0:14:05 > 0:14:11them. The point I was making, even that top yellow for Britain, the

0:14:11 > 0:14:16fact she has left back in there, you could even tap that in if Eve has

0:14:16 > 0:14:20got one, if she only has one in there, it is still protecting those

0:14:20 > 0:14:27two.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30Canada are lying three.

0:14:34 > 0:14:41What hands do you like throwing? This hand?It has gone very quiet in

0:14:41 > 0:14:48the arena. They are all trying to listen to the discussion. What about

0:14:48 > 0:14:57if you send it here? You could play the small bomb.I think Eve is just

0:14:57 > 0:15:01conscious that she doesn't want to allow her a draw to get in there,

0:15:01 > 0:15:04don't give her the chance of the draw. If she wants to move some of

0:15:04 > 0:15:09the stones around, fine, you have plenty of yellows. Just don't allow

0:15:09 > 0:15:14her to draw around the outside to come in.She would be really

0:15:14 > 0:15:21struggling to sit shot, but she could force the one. And the girls

0:15:21 > 0:15:25have chosen not to come from the right-hand side end, they have

0:15:25 > 0:15:31chosen to come from the left-hand side across the centre.

0:15:31 > 0:15:38side across the centre.I like this. OK.

0:15:38 > 0:15:46OK.Hair less. The edge. She will want this to come, I believe, right

0:15:46 > 0:15:55into the 8-foot. Which also takes off the draw for Rachel Homan, and

0:15:55 > 0:16:00probably forces her to play a triple take-out.Eve would still have this

0:16:00 > 0:16:08one sitting over the other side. As long as she gets this right. This

0:16:08 > 0:16:12stone needs to come in as far as she can. They are going to have to sweep

0:16:12 > 0:16:18this very hard, it has not got much on it. Really got to get into the

0:16:18 > 0:16:258-foot.It has to be biting.A bit more, a bit more, bit more. There is

0:16:25 > 0:16:33a back red as well. The chances if she tries to do the triple takeout

0:16:33 > 0:16:43of not hitting that red are slim. She wants to draw in here.

0:16:43 > 0:16:53A little extra weight out here, or Watt?

0:16:54 > 0:16:59Watt?When she says she crashed, she caught that guard on the way

0:16:59 > 0:17:05through, but she obviously doesn't want to catch that British yellow

0:17:05 > 0:17:09that Eve has just played, she wants to catch that on the way in, so she

0:17:09 > 0:17:15is giving it plenty of ice, she will have to come in and around. She has

0:17:15 > 0:17:18still got to get very close with this.I think she should maybe have

0:17:18 > 0:17:24played the triple. Everybody has got their hands on their hat at the

0:17:24 > 0:17:32moment!This is it. No more chances. Last stone for Canada. Last chance

0:17:32 > 0:17:39for Rachel Homan. Eve Muirhead watching.I bet she has got sweaty

0:17:39 > 0:17:48palms.I bet you, heart rate high. Just trying to stay calm, trying to

0:17:48 > 0:17:53survive.This is the shots to either keep Canada in the game or put Great

0:17:53 > 0:17:59Britain into a play-off place, because we are sitting two right.

0:17:59 > 0:18:04Here it comes, Rachel Homan watching. She has given this plenty

0:18:04 > 0:18:09of ice. She wants to at least lie second stone. She is pretty high on

0:18:09 > 0:18:14the line.It is starting to turn, but has she got the weight? High and

0:18:14 > 0:18:19hard, this is it, Great Britain are going to win this. It is not going

0:18:19 > 0:18:24to get there. The handshakes mean that Great Britain have won this

0:18:24 > 0:18:30match, a superb performance from Eve Muirhead and her team, they

0:18:30 > 0:18:34struggled all through that match but finally in the last three ends they

0:18:34 > 0:18:38all four of them came together, a superb team performance, brilliantly

0:18:38 > 0:18:46led by Eve Muirhead with some stunning shots.

0:18:46 > 0:18:51Congratulations, you are through to the semifinal. Job done?Delighted,

0:18:51 > 0:18:55we knew it was going to be a tough end against Canada, and we came out

0:18:55 > 0:19:00and played a great game. And to book our spot in semifinal was our first

0:19:00 > 0:19:04goal, delighted with that. How about the jump in the air? We saw you

0:19:04 > 0:19:08leaving the ice when you clear that brilliant shot.I can't actually

0:19:08 > 0:19:12remember it. When you are in that zone, you forget about the small

0:19:12 > 0:19:18things. But I'm glad I landed safely on my feet! And, you were struggling

0:19:18 > 0:19:22early on but got it together in the last three or four ends.Definitely

0:19:22 > 0:19:27was, and kudos to the girls, they stuck with me and they were really

0:19:27 > 0:19:32patient, and I think that really was the story of the game. We know that

0:19:32 > 0:19:37we finish strong, and thank God I turned up the last couple of ends.

0:19:37 > 0:19:40Patience and just staying in the moment, that is exactly what we did,

0:19:40 > 0:19:47and we came through in the end.How tense was it out there, Vicki

0:19:47 > 0:19:48and we came through in the end.How tense was it out there, Vicki? You

0:19:48 > 0:19:51had the chance to put them out and confirm your place in the

0:19:51 > 0:19:56semifinals. It was getting a little nervous at times.It was a tight

0:19:56 > 0:20:00game, but we expected that, we talked about that in our pre-game,

0:20:00 > 0:20:03and we focused on our shots one at a time and they all came together

0:20:03 > 0:20:09nicely.Lauren, we have talked about one game at a time, you have all

0:20:09 > 0:20:12said that, that you are now into the semifinals, so how do you prepare

0:20:12 > 0:20:17for that now?It is a new part of the competition, and we will go away

0:20:17 > 0:20:21and regroup for the semifinals and trying commit as strong as we can,

0:20:21 > 0:20:25see how we are playing and how we frame that and try to build on that

0:20:25 > 0:20:29last performance.Just a comment, Eve, on the Canadian colleagues next

0:20:29 > 0:20:33to us here. It is a massive shock, the women have never not made a

0:20:33 > 0:20:38medal at the Winter Olympics, they are one of your big rivals. How does

0:20:38 > 0:20:43that make a difference of accommodation now going forward?We

0:20:43 > 0:20:47knew coming in the field was strong, all ten teams are capable of getting

0:20:47 > 0:20:53a medal, and each team we went out there and play our own game and

0:20:53 > 0:20:56concentrate on ourselves. I understand how you think that Canada

0:20:56 > 0:20:59one of the top nations and haven't missed a podium, but as a team we

0:20:59 > 0:21:03concentrated on our own performance, and we will take whoever we have in

0:21:03 > 0:21:06the semifinals. There was a pretty good chance it might be swayed in

0:21:06 > 0:21:12the way things are looking. How would you fancy that?As I say, we

0:21:12 > 0:21:15are open to any team. We had a close game against Sweden in the round

0:21:15 > 0:21:20robin, we beat them in the European final and we always have close games

0:21:20 > 0:21:24when it comes to play-offs against them. We look forward to the day off

0:21:24 > 0:21:27tomorrow, and fight strong the next day.Good luck. No more jumping up

0:21:27 > 0:21:33and down on the ice, OK?

0:21:33 > 0:21:37CLARE BALDING: If she is jumping for joy, we don't mind. These are the

0:21:37 > 0:21:41qualifiers:

0:21:41 > 0:21:46It will be either the Japan or the USA to join those three at the

0:21:46 > 0:21:52topping qualifying. The hog line violation was right at the end of

0:21:52 > 0:21:57that game, really tight until then, so anything could happen. Rhona, I

0:21:57 > 0:22:00know you didn't sleep last night because you were watching both

0:22:00 > 0:22:04matches. When Eve played that shot in end nine, was that the turning

0:22:04 > 0:22:08point?Absolutely. It was Patience the whole game, the British girls

0:22:08 > 0:22:12played really well, and here at nine, Eve really wants to force

0:22:12 > 0:22:17Canada to take the one, not lose two or blank, and this

0:22:17 > 0:22:19Canada to take the one, not lose two or blank, and this shot here was

0:22:19 > 0:22:23phenomenal, the fact that it moved both reds, and Great Britain that

0:22:23 > 0:22:29two. So this was a huge game changer at this point. How difficult is that

0:22:29 > 0:22:39shot?Any shot in the ninth end, she had to hit that absolutely spot on

0:22:39 > 0:22:43in the right place to catch both reds in the house, so yes, she had

0:22:43 > 0:22:46to play the right weight, the right line, it was a difficult shot, but

0:22:46 > 0:22:51she played it perfectly. And it really was the turning point,

0:22:51 > 0:22:57because that meant, going into the tenth end...That forced Canada to

0:22:57 > 0:23:02draw for one, and Eve was more than happy to play the tenth. There she

0:23:02 > 0:23:05jumps, it wasn't jumping with joy, it was more jumping at the sweepers,

0:23:05 > 0:23:06to listen to her.

0:23:06 > 0:23:08it was more jumping at the sweepers, to listen to her. But that means

0:23:08 > 0:23:13Great Britain go into the tenth end with a hammer, much easier to score

0:23:13 > 0:23:16their two, and they were happy with that situation. So that shot in the

0:23:16 > 0:23:22night turned the game around. The shot of the Olympic Games so far?

0:23:22 > 0:23:27Not as in the degree of difficulty of the shot, but shot under pressure

0:23:27 > 0:23:31to absolutely turn a scoreline around, because if you think they've

0:23:31 > 0:23:34fought through that whole game, they were always two down, always

0:23:34 > 0:23:42fighting for their two got other the only got that on the eighth end.

0:23:42 > 0:23:49Friday will be the semifinal against Sweden. Korea have been the most

0:23:49 > 0:23:53consistent team. What do you predict will be the gold medal match?Put on

0:23:53 > 0:24:00the spot, I would say it is a Korea - Great Britain final.That would be

0:24:00 > 0:24:04exciting! Exciting for the host nation as well. Let's take a look at

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Great Britain's results so far and how they have got an against the

0:24:07 > 0:24:11teams that are still left. As we know, the Sweden result was very

0:24:11 > 0:24:17tight and could have gone the other way.

0:24:17 > 0:24:23But Great Britain have faced... South Korea have beaten Great

0:24:23 > 0:24:30Britain 7-4, and Sweden have beaten them. But it is a different evening

0:24:30 > 0:24:34now.Yes, three quarters of the week is done, and to get over that

0:24:34 > 0:24:36finishing line to reach the semifinals is a huge weight off

0:24:36 > 0:24:41their shoulders. They have done it, they have played there are nine

0:24:41 > 0:24:44teams, so now it is a different competition, straight knockout, you

0:24:44 > 0:24:49have to win. So there is no room for error, and Eve loves the pressure.

0:24:49 > 0:24:54The team can play really well under pressure, they are so patient. They

0:24:54 > 0:24:57don't try and win the game early, they wait because they know they can

0:24:57 > 0:25:02play the shots in the last few ends, so they love the play-off games. And

0:25:02 > 0:25:07as for the men, pretty simple, they had to win. They were up against the

0:25:07 > 0:25:10USA, and when they don't win, also of things happen. It is very

0:25:10 > 0:25:15complicated. But before the match today they were in second place

0:25:15 > 0:25:20joint with Canada, but you see the USA, if they were going to win, up

0:25:20 > 0:25:24to five wins, and then it all gets tight. And I woke up early to start

0:25:24 > 0:25:29watching this this morning, and it seems to me that the USA play a

0:25:29 > 0:25:33different style of curling, they play a much more aggressive style,

0:25:33 > 0:25:38maybe just because they sweep intensely. Kyle Smith at the end of

0:25:38 > 0:25:43the fourth end here, what is he trying to do?They have lost a two,

0:25:43 > 0:25:48got back to 2-2, and they are trying to steal, so they played a great

0:25:48 > 0:25:52draw around, then the USA trying to go further ease, and they just miss

0:25:52 > 0:25:58it, so it was a great steel from Britain to go 3-2 up after being 2-0

0:25:58 > 0:26:05down.The Americans look pretty cool in their kit. They look like golfers

0:26:05 > 0:26:05or baseball

0:26:05 > 0:26:07in their kit. They look like golfers or baseball players, they look

0:26:07 > 0:26:10different to everyone else. Obviously the Norwegians look really

0:26:10 > 0:26:14different, but there is a lot of confidence in this USA team, they

0:26:14 > 0:26:17know they have to win as well. And that was a great tapped to get the

0:26:17 > 0:26:25three. Having just lost one at the last end, for them at that fifth end

0:26:25 > 0:26:31to go in and get the three is a massive boost for the USA. So now

0:26:31 > 0:26:37the USA are two up, playing this eighth end, so Great Britain trying

0:26:37 > 0:26:47to build up their two here. And just catches the corner guard. So USA can

0:26:47 > 0:26:51really put the pressure on now. Great Britain have got last stone,

0:26:51 > 0:26:56but they don't want to be forced to take the one. But after that shot,

0:26:56 > 0:27:07USA now just trying to lie. It seems slightly...They are

0:27:07 > 0:27:11shouting louder, that is why you think they are more aggressive. So,

0:27:11 > 0:27:17Great Britain forced to draw for one against four. Which isn't a

0:27:17 > 0:27:21disastrous situation to go into the ninth end just one down, but the

0:27:21 > 0:27:29sweepers are on this the whole way.

0:27:29 > 0:27:34And unfortunately, it comes up short, just too many half shots from

0:27:34 > 0:27:37Great Britain today. Yesterday they were so clinical, played so well,

0:27:37 > 0:27:42but the loss of four, that is game over, really, just too many half

0:27:42 > 0:27:47shots for them. The American fans celebrate, and that is a huge result

0:27:47 > 0:27:51for the USA. But this is what it means the Great Britain. It means

0:27:51 > 0:27:55they move down the order to fourth equal, and they now have a play-off

0:27:55 > 0:27:59against Switzerland, that is at midnight tonight. If they win that,

0:27:59 > 0:28:02they will go through to the semifinals tomorrow at 11am, so

0:28:02 > 0:28:10whoever wins that match gets two games within a few hours. They all

0:28:10 > 0:28:13finished on the same rankings, but because USA had beaten both

0:28:13 > 0:28:18Switzerland and Great Britain, they go above them, so that is why they

0:28:18 > 0:28:20are automatically through, and Switzerland and Great Britain

0:28:20 > 0:28:25play-off.And what do you predict that?I think it will be a

0:28:25 > 0:28:25play-off.And what do you predict that?I think it will be a close

0:28:25 > 0:28:28one. I think our boys, having seen them that their clinical performance

0:28:28 > 0:28:33yesterday, if they come out and play like that, can win. They had a

0:28:33 > 0:28:36really close first game with Switzerland, but that was days ago

0:28:36 > 0:28:42now.It seems like ages ago.So I think both teams are going to be

0:28:42 > 0:28:44absolutely desperate for that semifinal place. And Kyle Smith

0:28:44 > 0:28:47needs to pick himself up, because that was a disappointing end but

0:28:47 > 0:28:52they can do it and they have showed in this Olympics they are absolutely

0:28:52 > 0:28:56Olympic class.Absolutely, and at the Olympic Games, what is the best

0:28:56 > 0:29:01way to go? Through tie-breakers. That's the way I did it!Quite

0:29:01 > 0:29:06right.Keeps you fighting and motivated.Excellent, love that.

0:29:06 > 0:29:17Rhona, thank you very much.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23We are going to focus on the women's downhill, which took place very

0:29:23 > 0:29:25early this morning in perfect conditions, and the star of the

0:29:25 > 0:29:28show, all eyes were on Lindsey Vonn, trying to capture the title that she

0:29:28 > 0:29:32last won in Vancouver. She had injuries that kept her out of the

0:29:32 > 0:29:34World Championship. Let's catch up with Matt Chilton.

0:29:37 > 0:29:46COMMENTATOR: She has had two World Cup victories, and a couple of

0:29:46 > 0:29:50podiums as well, Goggia. She is high on the Dragon rage, the winner of

0:29:50 > 0:29:55the Olympic test 12 months ago. She had a massive mistake in the

0:29:55 > 0:29:58Super-G, which cost her a chance to push for a medal, but she has been

0:29:58 > 0:30:03going well in the free training runs, and represents a serious, real

0:30:03 > 0:30:09threat to Lindsey Vonn's chance to win gold today. But Three has left

0:30:09 > 0:30:14herself work to do. And that is dangerous. Lucky that the wind

0:30:14 > 0:30:17didn't get under her skis there and cause to crash, but that is a sign

0:30:17 > 0:30:20of the commitment that she is putting into this race. Suffering

0:30:20 > 0:30:24with a knee problem, she says when she gets up in the morning walks

0:30:24 > 0:30:28around, the knee is sore, it takes ten minutes just to be able to walk,

0:30:28 > 0:30:32and climbing the stairs is an issue, but when she gets to the start gate,

0:30:32 > 0:30:38she forgets all about it. It full focus. She has just flown 25 metres,

0:30:38 > 0:30:43and that is a good job, and it has put Goggia right back in the Chase

0:30:43 > 0:30:49here. 94 kilometres per hour, Bencic celebrates beyond the 100 mark,

0:30:49 > 0:30:54towards 104 kilometres per hour. Smooth, accurate terms for Sofia

0:30:54 > 0:30:59Goggia, the 25 you rolled Italian, she hits that control gate, and the

0:30:59 > 0:31:05next split it has got slightly better for her. Goggia could back up

0:31:05 > 0:31:11the victory in the Olympic test event a year ago by skiing into gold

0:31:11 > 0:31:15medal position here. It's a brilliant run from Goggia, she leads

0:31:15 > 0:31:21the way. It is a big margin in favour of the Italian, 0.63, that

0:31:21 > 0:31:26might bring her a medal today.

0:31:26 > 0:31:34Will it be gold? This was one of the risky moves that Sofia Goggia

0:31:34 > 0:31:39polled, straight down onto the tales of her skis. Incredible strength.

0:31:39 > 0:31:45Lindsay Vonn is already a ski racing legend, whatever happens today, the

0:31:45 > 0:31:50most successful female ski racer of all time. 81 World Cup victories.

0:31:50 > 0:31:57She is chasing victory as she looks to hunt down the all-time record.

0:31:57 > 0:32:01She could add another couple of World Cup wins at the end of this

0:32:01 > 0:32:06season, maybe return at the start of next and beat the record of 86. The

0:32:06 > 0:32:10focus this season has been all about today, the Olympic downhill

0:32:10 > 0:32:14competition that she last one in Whistler, the Vancouver games, eight

0:32:14 > 0:32:21years ago. She has trained really well. She has had an army of

0:32:21 > 0:32:26technicians working on her skis, she is fully fit, she's fast, she's

0:32:26 > 0:32:30focused and she's flying there, standing on the right speed, great

0:32:30 > 0:32:36term coming into paradise for Lindsay Vonn. Vonn is now 33 years

0:32:36 > 0:32:40old, one of the oldest competitors in the competition. Is she in front

0:32:40 > 0:32:48here? She is four tenths slower than Sofia Goggia and she and Goggia have

0:32:48 > 0:32:53gone toe to toe in so many World Cup races so far this season, with Vonn

0:32:53 > 0:32:59winning three of them, including the last two. She is fastest through the

0:32:59 > 0:33:04speed gun. Will that translate to a green light here? Not quite. Vonn

0:33:04 > 0:33:10has still got to find time. Half a second off the pace of Goggia. The

0:33:10 > 0:33:15top two separated by .6 three. Vonn is slightly wide. A straight line

0:33:15 > 0:33:20all the way to the finish now. Vonn is across the line and it is a

0:33:20 > 0:33:26silver. Goggia Olesen. No gold medal in what will almost certainly be

0:33:26 > 0:33:34have final Olympic games for Lindsay Vonn. Let's see what Mowinckel can

0:33:34 > 0:33:42produce today. Norway's best, number 19, Mowinckel. Silver medallist in

0:33:42 > 0:33:51the Olympic giant slalom last week. 13th in the super-g. She has been

0:33:51 > 0:33:55consistent in World Cup downhill races this season. Five times in the

0:33:55 > 0:34:00top ten but never better than sixth. Two green light to start with.

0:34:00 > 0:34:07Mowinckel has had an outstanding season. She was always one of the

0:34:07 > 0:34:11sort of middle order athletes until the start of the new World Cup

0:34:11 > 0:34:15season at the end of 2017 and she started to show some fine form. That

0:34:15 > 0:34:25was a huge tan therefore Mowinckel of Norway. -- a huge ten there for.

0:34:25 > 0:34:32Norway have had a fine programme with gold, silver and bronze is so

0:34:32 > 0:34:37far. Mowinckel contributed to that with a silver in the giant slalom.

0:34:37 > 0:34:42The speed is good therefore Mowinckel. Three green lights and

0:34:42 > 0:34:49then read, but not bar. One tenth a second off the pace. Mowinckel is

0:34:49 > 0:34:55bringing her a game to the biggest race of this season. The top three

0:34:55 > 0:34:59separated by so little. Mowinckel picked an unusual line into that

0:34:59 > 0:35:11time. Can she swim quicker than Goggia? Mowinckel may well move in

0:35:11 > 0:35:16amongst the medals. Can she ski quickly enough to go into gold? Off

0:35:16 > 0:35:27the final jump, Mowinckel has gone into silver. 900th of a second.

0:35:30 > 0:35:32into silver. 900th of a second. It is a second Olympic medal, her

0:35:32 > 0:35:37second silver.

0:35:37 > 0:35:44second silver. What a day for Sofia Goggia. She was the Olympic downhill

0:35:44 > 0:35:49champion, the first Olympic -- the best Italian woman ever to do so.

0:35:49 > 0:35:56And it is the second silver for Mowinckel in the downhill. And

0:35:56 > 0:35:59Lindsay Vonn goes home with the downhill bronze in 2018 after

0:35:59 > 0:36:06winning eight years ago. We saw had jumping for joy and look

0:36:06 > 0:36:18at this, Sofia Goggia, giving the snow in delight. Lindsay Vonn took

0:36:18 > 0:36:21bronze and afterwards, her good friend Jimmy Alcott caught up with

0:36:21 > 0:36:28her. Suffice to say, emotions were running high. You overcame all of

0:36:28 > 0:36:33the pressure, all the expectation and you got a bronze today.Yes, it

0:36:33 > 0:36:36was intense and I think mostly it was intense because I just wanted to

0:36:36 > 0:36:42win for my grandpa. And it's hard to process this is my last Olympic

0:36:42 > 0:36:48downhill race. You know, I really want to keep racing for ever but I

0:36:48 > 0:36:54can't.So, I'm... Lindsay, knowing your family, your grandfather would

0:36:54 > 0:37:07be so happy you went did your best, you know?I hope so.

0:37:11 > 0:37:15So, I chatted with your dad earlier and he was here to support cheap. He

0:37:15 > 0:37:21didn't care about your time as long as you knew you went out there and

0:37:21 > 0:37:25did your best. He did that, the super-g, this is how you came back

0:37:25 > 0:37:32and that shows you are a super champion.Thanks. You know, I'm sure

0:37:32 > 0:37:35my dad will find something that I did wrong. He loves to be critical

0:37:35 > 0:37:42but it meant a lot to me that he was here. You know, we had some rough

0:37:42 > 0:37:46times there and he wasn't in Vancouver when I won, so it meant a

0:37:46 > 0:37:53lot to me that he was here. I mean, we've all been really emotional

0:37:53 > 0:37:58because of my grandfather, so it meant a lot to all of us to be here

0:37:58 > 0:38:02altogether. It's just a really emotional day. I'm really proud to

0:38:02 > 0:38:07walk away with a medal. It may not be gold and I'm sure a lot of people

0:38:07 > 0:38:11will say that I should have gotten a gold, but you know what, it's so

0:38:11 > 0:38:15hard to win or to get a medal at the Olympics and I'm proud of my

0:38:15 > 0:38:22performance, so I'm walking away very happy.Shimmy Alcott joins us

0:38:22 > 0:38:27live now from Pyeongchang, listening to that live I'm sure it's making

0:38:27 > 0:38:31you well up and not many people would have got that access or that

0:38:31 > 0:38:37reaction. It's amazing to see the really human side of Lindsay Vonn.

0:38:37 > 0:38:41Yes, I've noticed that really change with her over the last year. I think

0:38:41 > 0:38:45she's become a lot more accessible to her emotions. She also -- she

0:38:45 > 0:38:50always used to put up this guard of what you call people wanted her to

0:38:50 > 0:38:52be and now she's realised that she the champion and when you're

0:38:52 > 0:38:57champion, you can beat who you are, to do those feelings. It's

0:38:57 > 0:39:01incredible that you spoke about the men in her life because she has gone

0:39:01 > 0:39:04through the divorce with her husband, she got really close to her

0:39:04 > 0:39:07grandfather because her father wasn't in the picture them, so

0:39:07 > 0:39:11that's where all these raw emotions are coming from. I'm not sure if

0:39:11 > 0:39:18they are coming from the fact this is her last Olympic downhill all the

0:39:18 > 0:39:22whole scenario of grieving with him. That bronze was like a gold for her

0:39:22 > 0:39:27today. She just needed to get a medal.Amazing to see her on the

0:39:27 > 0:39:31podium. She has made it clear that although she won't be at another

0:39:31 > 0:39:34Olympics committee is still going for the World Cup world record,

0:39:34 > 0:39:41isn't she?Definitely. She is only by the way, chasing history. She has

0:39:41 > 0:39:46done everything out she can in the sport in terms of achievements for

0:39:46 > 0:39:51female alpine skiers. It definitely an accessible goal for her. The next

0:39:51 > 0:39:56Olympics is four years away, how her body will hold up. She has gone

0:39:56 > 0:39:59through so much adversity and injuries over the years that I think

0:39:59 > 0:40:02she's anticipating that for years is too much, but who knows of Lindsay

0:40:02 > 0:40:07Vonn. When she is riding high bill of confidence, you can't write her

0:40:07 > 0:40:14off.Let's talk about Sofia Goggia, the gold medallist. There are some

0:40:14 > 0:40:22interesting testament to her character.She is a firecracker.

0:40:22 > 0:40:26She's never called me by my name, she has nicknames for everyone.

0:40:26 > 0:40:31Whatever she wants to do, she does it, whatever she wants to save.

0:40:31 > 0:40:35She's the most exciting skier to watch. Actually, her run was

0:40:35 > 0:40:40probably the most controlled I've seen have. It was a really solid

0:40:40 > 0:40:45performance. She knew what she had to do to win gold and she had a

0:40:45 > 0:40:49nervous wait up the surprise in the super-g with the snowboarder coming

0:40:49 > 0:40:58down and

0:40:58 > 0:41:00down and taking gold, with the Norwegian coming down. She said he

0:41:00 > 0:41:05didn't mind who was -- how far behind someone was as long as they

0:41:05 > 0:41:10were behind. And the first time in many years Italy have one, so a huge

0:41:10 > 0:41:15moment for them?It is huge and the way Italians celebrate, they are the

0:41:15 > 0:41:20most amazing team out there. Every single athlete stays to watch their

0:41:20 > 0:41:27team-mates race. They have such a good connection, when Sofia Goggia,

0:41:27 > 0:41:30when the race was eventually over, her coaches, you could see how much

0:41:30 > 0:41:35it meant to them as the United team. She is an amazing firecracker. She

0:41:35 > 0:41:41is great but the sport, Lindsay Vonn actually men told her over the last

0:41:41 > 0:41:49few years and she beat her very slightly here last year in a test

0:41:49 > 0:41:53event, but I'm sure she is more frustrated to buy beaten -- to be

0:41:53 > 0:41:59beaten by her today. There is still the team event to come for the

0:41:59 > 0:42:02women. Could Lindsay Vonn be involved in that? There is still the

0:42:02 > 0:42:09combined tomorrow. As of yet, I am not sure whether she will be

0:42:09 > 0:42:15starting it. With her emotions, I am not sure she will start. Who knows.

0:42:15 > 0:42:21With the slalom, it's quite difficult tomorrow, it will suit the

0:42:21 > 0:42:25technical skiers like shivering but there is a spot on the American team

0:42:25 > 0:42:29for Lindsay if she wants to take it. In terms of the team parallel, I

0:42:29 > 0:42:36don't think Lindsay will started. So focus switches to Michaela Shifrin

0:42:36 > 0:42:42for the Americans. One of the many reasons we sent you out there is

0:42:42 > 0:42:47because we have got the slalom coming up and Dom Parsons. How is he

0:42:47 > 0:42:52looking?

0:42:52 > 0:42:56looking?I mean, cool, collected, he is just keeping to his own. He's

0:42:56 > 0:43:04trying to take it as another race. He doesn't have a big team here. His

0:43:04 > 0:43:07family are watching back home, they became up because they are watching

0:43:07 > 0:43:12you. His girlfriend is here working for Dutch TV so I will be standing

0:43:12 > 0:43:16with her tomorrow and feeling the vibe because he genuinely has the

0:43:16 > 0:43:22possibility. There is a place on the podium, there are about three or

0:43:22 > 0:43:26four years he could get it and Dave is definitely one of those guys.

0:43:26 > 0:43:31Good luck with all of that. Thanks so much was going up to talk to us.

0:43:31 > 0:43:44This view, friends. We miss you too. Now we are going to head live to

0:43:44 > 0:43:57cross-country skiing. Rob Walker is there to explain how this skiing

0:43:57 > 0:44:03works and also who she will be skiing with. Does a moment of

0:44:03 > 0:44:08history back for the iron Lady wearing number one on the left of

0:44:08 > 0:44:10your picture? This, arguably, one of the hardest

0:44:10 > 0:44:15earned gold medals of any sport hearing Pyeongchang. There is beer

0:44:15 > 0:44:30can. 16 and a half minutes away from something very, very special.

0:44:33 > 0:44:38They are under way in this women's teams per in to vinyl. Only two

0:44:38 > 0:44:43athletes per nation, six circuits skied in all, so it's three each and

0:44:43 > 0:44:47the only rest each skier gets is the length of time it takes their

0:44:47 > 0:44:53team-mate to ski each of their circuits. Marit Bjoergen in second

0:44:53 > 0:45:01place here for Norway. At the moment, she is tied in medals, 13 in

0:45:01 > 0:45:09total. She has seven goals, three silvers and the bronzes. A medal of

0:45:09 > 0:45:14any colour would bring her 14 Winter Olympic medals in total and no one

0:45:14 > 0:45:19has done better. She would be the greatest of all time. If you really

0:45:19 > 0:45:23want to be a stickler for statistics, if it was to be gold for

0:45:23 > 0:45:27Marit Bjoergen, and she is in the lead at the moment ahead of the

0:45:27 > 0:45:31American, if it was to be gold, there is no question whatsoever

0:45:31 > 0:45:35because she would be ahead by virtue of one single bronze. Marit Bjoergen

0:45:35 > 0:45:42has been sensational at these games, she really has. And how about this

0:45:42 > 0:45:47for a potential omen? 16 years ago on this very day, a skinny

0:45:47 > 0:45:55inexperienced Norwegian led the relay first leg and it was her first

0:45:55 > 0:45:58medal, a silver. Well, Ollie Williams alongside me, the omens are

0:45:58 > 0:46:03good, it all sounds great, but she has got to get over the line and

0:46:03 > 0:46:07there is a world-class pair from Russia just behind her and the

0:46:07 > 0:46:11Swedes have a fantastic duo as well. Yes, it is not just about Marit

0:46:11 > 0:46:18Bjoergen, it is about the other Norwegian in this team of two who

0:46:18 > 0:46:23you see just waiting to handover from Marit Bjoergen. You also have

0:46:23 > 0:46:30the US, this week, everyone in this mix, they will be looking less at

0:46:30 > 0:46:35Marit Bjoergen, more her team-mate and it's ridiculous to use the brave

0:46:35 > 0:46:40the weak link, but it could be that Neil said he would take over for

0:46:40 > 0:46:44Sweden, you can see her entering your picture there, it could be that

0:46:44 > 0:46:50she will target her and try to bring this bold home for Sweden instead of

0:46:50 > 0:46:56Norway and just

0:46:59 > 0:47:04The Norwegians are the defending champions and reigning world

0:47:04 > 0:47:11champions. This is a really, really competitive race. They have already

0:47:11 > 0:47:20skied a semifinal just to get to this big showdown. Julia Bellerin

0:47:21 > 0:47:25this big showdown. Julia Bellerin, the camera focusing in now. This

0:47:25 > 0:47:28Russian duo, for all the reasons that have been well publicised, the

0:47:28 > 0:47:37Olympic athletes of Russia have brought a very young but talented

0:47:37 > 0:47:43team, and Yulia Belorukova will be determined to spoil the Marit

0:47:43 > 0:47:48Bjoergen Norwegian party. They all get a couple of minutes to recover

0:47:48 > 0:47:54as best they can. You saw a little error at the back, that will cause

0:47:54 > 0:48:03some time for Slovenia. They look very good, at the front you can see

0:48:03 > 0:48:12it is Stena Nielsen, and we take one more look here, you can see that

0:48:12 > 0:48:19little error, the trip for Slovenia that just drops her a little bit

0:48:19 > 0:48:27further back. This race looks to be on paper a four way battle, Norway,

0:48:27 > 0:48:33with Maiken Caspersen Fall out on course at the moment. And those

0:48:33 > 0:48:41young Olympic Athletes from Russia. Here now you can see you have Maiken

0:48:41 > 0:48:44Caspersen Falla on the right-hand side, Stena Nielsen keeping pace

0:48:44 > 0:48:52with Sweden, and so far this final is bunched. We are poised for

0:48:52 > 0:48:58history here, but how will this go? We have a whole host of world-class

0:48:58 > 0:49:02women determined that the Norwegians will not have this great celebration

0:49:02 > 0:49:09all their own way. Vital work going on by the wax technician is, it is a

0:49:09 > 0:49:14big part of the science of cross-country skiing, it is not just

0:49:14 > 0:49:18a question of putting the skis on and going for it, there is a lot of

0:49:18 > 0:49:24work that goes on behind the scenes to make these races so spectacular.

0:49:24 > 0:49:26Sweden and Norway, little bit of ground lost therefore the Olympic

0:49:26 > 0:49:35athletes of Russia. Yulia Belorukova not quite as impressive on this leg.

0:49:35 > 0:49:39Marit Bjoergen contemplating the second circuit. Remember it is three

0:49:39 > 0:49:45each in total, so now both team-mates have done a circuit each.

0:49:45 > 0:49:51Marit Bjoergen will be going up against Charlotte Callan, she is

0:49:51 > 0:49:58wearing bib 12 of Sweden, just on the right of the picture. The

0:49:58 > 0:50:07Americans won the team sprint, the men won it back in 1976, and no

0:50:07 > 0:50:16American woman has ever won a winter Olympic cross-country medal. Third

0:50:16 > 0:50:21place at the moment with Randall, it would be a huge day for American

0:50:21 > 0:50:30cross-country skiing. It cannot be underestimated.This is the USA's

0:50:30 > 0:50:35last chance, Randall's in particular, 35 years old. She thinks

0:50:35 > 0:50:40this is it in terms of her ability to finally for the first time put

0:50:40 > 0:50:45the US on an Olympic podium in this sport, but also think about

0:50:45 > 0:50:53Charlotte Kalla, she has never won this in the Olympics, and I don't

0:50:53 > 0:50:58think she will get better opportunity than being paired up

0:50:58 > 0:51:05with an out and out sprint queen like Stina Nilsson. Marit Bjoergen,

0:51:05 > 0:51:09as you see her surging up this hill that form such a dominant part of

0:51:09 > 0:51:14this short but punishing course. Marit Bjoergen isn't always Norway's

0:51:14 > 0:51:22go to girl for a team spread. She wasn't in the last couple of team

0:51:22 > 0:51:29sprints, but in this course, you do a semifinal, so many little circuits

0:51:29 > 0:51:35of this course, it demands sheer endurance, and that is what it shows

0:51:35 > 0:51:40she brings in this field. It is almost like the ultimate rap

0:51:40 > 0:51:45session, rewarded with the gold, silver and bronze medal. Here are

0:51:45 > 0:51:49some of the all-time greats, let's not underestimate Charlotte Kalla

0:51:49 > 0:51:56and her team-mate, Stina Nilsson, up against Maiken Caspersen Falla, and

0:51:56 > 0:52:01it was Stina Nilsson and Maiken Caspersen Falla who took the medals

0:52:01 > 0:52:08in the individual sprint races. Couple of gaps opening up.

0:52:09 > 0:52:11Couple of gaps opening up.This has allowed a little bit of a deficit to

0:52:11 > 0:52:18open up. It is Norway from Sweden. The United States have never been on

0:52:18 > 0:52:22a women's Winter Olympics cross-country podium. They are in

0:52:22 > 0:52:29third. Switzerland coming into the mix as well. But it is the two great

0:52:29 > 0:52:34nations of Norway and Sweden, side by side, locked together in this

0:52:34 > 0:52:40battle for global supremacy, a sport that is absolutely worshipped in

0:52:40 > 0:52:44both countries, and the Germans have a little bit of ground to make up,

0:52:44 > 0:52:47disappointing so far for them in this final.

0:52:47 > 0:52:55You mentioned the Swiss, you can see her off the back there, you can see

0:52:55 > 0:52:59her skiing for Switzerland, Laurien van der Graaff, impressive to come

0:52:59 > 0:53:05through the way they did, and they are keeping themselves in touch.

0:53:05 > 0:53:08Look at Jessica Diggins, her face painted with glitter, the way it

0:53:08 > 0:53:12always is and always has been, in her unique style that she has

0:53:12 > 0:53:17brought to this US team, and she has tried to haul this sport into US

0:53:17 > 0:53:21prime-time, and nothing would do that better than getting on the

0:53:21 > 0:53:25podium tonight, and Marit Bjoergen and Norway, Maiken Caspersen Falla,

0:53:25 > 0:53:29just tucked in behind Stina Nilsson behind them as they head back up

0:53:29 > 0:53:34this hill one more time, and the US still lead.A great effort here from

0:53:34 > 0:53:40Jessica Diggins. Fifth in the ski Avalon, the American, fifth in the

0:53:40 > 0:53:47ten K, fifth in the relay, and she made the sprint final. She is trying

0:53:47 > 0:53:53to give herself and her team-mate Kikkan Randall every opportunity.

0:53:53 > 0:53:56There will be two complete circuits left at the end of this one, this is

0:53:56 > 0:54:04the second time we have seen Maiken Falla of Norway coming up this

0:54:04 > 0:54:12brutal hill. Stina Nilsson is inferred. -- in third. They will

0:54:12 > 0:54:16hope that history does beckon with a gold, and Maiken Falla would already

0:54:16 > 0:54:21be feeling this, they will be tired. They have skied just to make this

0:54:21 > 0:54:26final tonight. It is getting colder, -5 out on the course, but they won't

0:54:26 > 0:54:29be feeling that at the moment, they will be getting a surge of

0:54:29 > 0:54:33adrenaline. The noise from the crowd. Most of them over on the far

0:54:33 > 0:54:40side gathered by the finish. This is a fascinating race at the moment,

0:54:40 > 0:54:43the Olympic athletes of Russia are out of it. This is sensational for

0:54:43 > 0:54:49the Americans. It will be Jessica Diggins to Randall, and as far as

0:54:49 > 0:54:53the Norwegians and Swedes are concerned, Maiken Falla will hand

0:54:53 > 0:54:59over to Marit Bjoergen, and it will be Stina Nilsson to Charlotte Kalla.

0:54:59 > 0:55:03They are out on the tracks for the last time, they can afford to give

0:55:03 > 0:55:07it everything here. This is going to be a fascinating circuit, and how

0:55:07 > 0:55:11Kikkan Randall is going to come under pressure here from Marit

0:55:11 > 0:55:19Bjoergen and Charlotte Kalla, the Olympic athletes of Russia

0:55:19 > 0:55:23completely out of this now.We were worried that the US, having gone so

0:55:23 > 0:55:27hard in the semifinal, might be the ones to blow up in this final, but

0:55:27 > 0:55:30instead it is those young athletes from Russia who have just not been

0:55:30 > 0:55:36able to keep any kind of pace, as frankly neither has anyone else,

0:55:36 > 0:55:40because these three are now well out in front, and it would take quite

0:55:40 > 0:55:45some effort. You can see the Swiss still just about in touch, but it

0:55:45 > 0:55:50looks like it might just be into a sprint finish between these three,

0:55:50 > 0:55:54but the Norwegians will still think they have an ace up their sleeves to

0:55:54 > 0:55:59move ahead. Equally, the Swedish will be looking at Lizzy waiting for

0:55:59 > 0:56:05Stina Nilsson -- Charlotte Kalla waiting for Stina Nilsson, it is no

0:56:05 > 0:56:08strategic of when you push ahead, and it looks like Norway are try to

0:56:08 > 0:56:13take this out now.Marit Bjoergen has won a medal in every event she

0:56:13 > 0:56:19has contested here in Pyeongchang. She is 37 years of age, she is a

0:56:19 > 0:56:21mother now, she balances a life outside cross-country skiing, she is

0:56:21 > 0:56:27writing this final chapter in glittering glory, but is it to be a

0:56:27 > 0:56:33gold? Unless there is a problem with the skis or a fall, you would almost

0:56:33 > 0:56:36certain things that Norway and Sweden will be on the podium, but

0:56:36 > 0:56:42Marit Bjoergen has shied away from the questions about becoming the

0:56:42 > 0:56:46greatest of all time. She has focused on each race at a time, but

0:56:46 > 0:56:51her job here is almost done, and what a responsibility for her

0:56:51 > 0:56:57team-mate and good friend Maiken Falla. She will have the

0:56:57 > 0:57:01responsibility of trying to ensure history is made with gold with a

0:57:01 > 0:57:05title defence, and a real problem here. That is disappointing for the

0:57:05 > 0:57:08Olympic athlete of Russia. A snap poll, and that may well be

0:57:08 > 0:57:14contributing to why they are so far behind. If Marit Bjoergen is to

0:57:14 > 0:57:18become the greatest of all time, she has given her compatriot Maiken

0:57:18 > 0:57:21Falla every opportunity. But this isn't just about Marit Bjoergen,

0:57:21 > 0:57:25this is a great race between Norway, Sweden and the United States, and

0:57:25 > 0:57:29how about that from the Americans? They are closing in on a medal that

0:57:29 > 0:57:35for so many years seemed it would never come. Norway, Sweden and the

0:57:35 > 0:57:42United States with one circuit left too long burst their way towards the

0:57:42 > 0:57:45finish.The Swedish newspapers interviewed Charlotte Kalla before

0:57:45 > 0:57:51this race, and she said, if Stina Nilsson and Maiken Falla eyelevel

0:57:51 > 0:57:55going into the final leg, we will not be that worried. She essentially

0:57:55 > 0:58:00said, she thinks Stina Nilsson can take it for Sweden. It was a brave

0:58:00 > 0:58:04thing to come out and say, it has been all over the Scandinavian

0:58:04 > 0:58:09media, and now Stina Nilsson has to deliver, because there is nothing to

0:58:09 > 0:58:13choose between Norway, Sweden and the USA, currently out in front

0:58:13 > 0:58:20thanks to Jessica Diggins going for that podium at last. This is a great

0:58:20 > 0:58:24race for the Americans, it really is. Jessica Diggins has missed out

0:58:24 > 0:58:29on so many occasions. We knew she was on form, she won the last World

0:58:29 > 0:58:34Cup race coming into these games. She leads from Maiken Falla in the

0:58:34 > 0:58:38silver medal position for Norway at the moment, which would surely make

0:58:38 > 0:58:43Marit Bjoergen the greatest of all time, but this just for a moment

0:58:43 > 0:58:47isn't about Marit Bjoergen. It is about Maiken Falla of Norway. It is

0:58:47 > 0:58:52about Jessica Diggins of the United States. Sweden looked like a couple

0:58:52 > 0:58:57of meters are opening up between themselves and the leading duo.

0:58:57 > 0:59:00Having said that, Stina Nilsson trying to close the gap on the

0:59:00 > 0:59:05inside. Maybe we are still going to have a 3-way battle for gold. Maiken

0:59:05 > 0:59:12Falla for Norway. Jessica Diggins, the weight of history and all those

0:59:12 > 0:59:14disappointments on the American shoulders, and what about Stina

0:59:14 > 0:59:22Nilsson? She beat Maiken Falla in the sprint final, they call her

0:59:22 > 0:59:24silver Stina

0:59:24 > 0:59:26the sprint final, they call her silver Stina, always the bridesmaid,

0:59:26 > 0:59:29never the bride. Nothing to choose between the three of them as they

0:59:29 > 0:59:34head down to the stadium. The medals are short, but in which order? And

0:59:34 > 0:59:38there is a tussle between Maiken Falla and Stina Nilsson. Jessica

0:59:38 > 0:59:45Diggins did not get involved.

0:59:46 > 0:59:50the history books will be written and they will show that tonight,

0:59:50 > 0:59:54Marit Bjoergen became the greatest of all time but with which colour

0:59:54 > 1:00:00medal? Stena Nelson trying to pull away hair and suddenly there's a gap

1:00:00 > 1:00:06and the Norwegians are there. The Americans will get their first ever

1:00:06 > 1:00:10cross-country skiing medal in the Olympics and it looks as though

1:00:10 > 1:00:14Maiken Falla is beaten. It will be history for Bjoergen but it looks

1:00:14 > 1:00:20like it will be bronze. What a race, Stena Nelson, Jess begins for a

1:00:20 > 1:00:25piece of history. And the Americans have done it. For the first time,

1:00:25 > 1:00:32they are on the podium and they are on the podium with gold. Sweden take

1:00:32 > 1:00:37silver and Marit Bjoergen becomes the greatest of all time but it is

1:00:37 > 1:00:42bronze tonight. Let's focus on the Americans. So many times they have

1:00:42 > 1:00:49come up short, so many times they have had questions to answer but not

1:00:49 > 1:00:58tonight. Sloan well -- Bjoergen

1:00:58 > 1:01:03tonight. Sloan well -- Bjoergen will make the headlines, but the US are

1:01:03 > 1:01:07there.That is the raise that the US have been waiting for decades to

1:01:07 > 1:01:15deliver. They thought they were almost out of time, they were given

1:01:15 > 1:01:2050 places, fourth places, they have done it at the World Championships,

1:01:20 > 1:01:24they won the World Championship in 2013 together but they had never

1:01:24 > 1:01:28done it at the Olympics until now and it means more than the world for

1:01:28 > 1:01:35them to beat Norway and Sweden at their own game.If you have never

1:01:35 > 1:01:39watched a cross-country skiing race, I really, really hope you enjoyed

1:01:39 > 1:01:45that. This is a sport of Herculean effort and hard. That is why they

1:01:45 > 1:01:49collapse over the finish line. If you prefer your racing on the roads

1:01:49 > 1:01:54rather than on snow, I hope you have been won over tonight. Marit

1:01:54 > 1:01:59Bjoergen does become the greatest Winter Olympian in history with 14

1:01:59 > 1:02:03medals, but quite rightly, the cameras are focusing in on the

1:02:03 > 1:02:09Americans. That is an absolutely phenomenal achievement. Yes, they

1:02:09 > 1:02:13became team sprint champions, but that was five years ago and people

1:02:13 > 1:02:16were starting to doubt how many more opportunities this great American

1:02:16 > 1:02:24duo would have. And how about this? Surely one of the principles of the

1:02:24 > 1:02:28Winter Olympic Games and the summer Olympic Games is to inspire the next

1:02:28 > 1:02:32generation and how many young boys and girls will be watching this in

1:02:32 > 1:02:37the United States and will say to their mums and dads, yes, I know

1:02:37 > 1:02:41about Lindsay Vonn, but now I also know about kicking Randall and just

1:02:41 > 1:02:47begins and I'm going to have a go at cross-country skiing. This is huge

1:02:47 > 1:02:52for the sport in North America. It takes an Olympic gold medal,

1:02:52 > 1:02:59especially with the dominance that America has across so many sports,

1:02:59 > 1:03:04it takes Olympic gold and I said that Sweden were expected to beat

1:03:04 > 1:03:10the Norwegians, they were not expecting the US to come at them and

1:03:10 > 1:03:14win in that style. An absolutely incredible moment in history but not

1:03:14 > 1:03:20just for Marit Bjoergen, an amazing finish from two American women who

1:03:20 > 1:03:24have produced the race of their lives against some of the all-time

1:03:24 > 1:03:32greats. What a race and what a privilege to witness this unfolding

1:03:32 > 1:03:37in the commentary box. It has been an absolutely wonderful 20 minutes

1:03:37 > 1:03:41at the Alpensia Cross-Country Centre centre and that was the moment be

1:03:41 > 1:03:47America knew she had delivered gold.

1:03:56 > 1:04:04What another sensational finish to a cross-country race. America now have

1:04:04 > 1:04:10a gold medal in the cross-country team spin -- team sprint but Marit

1:04:10 > 1:04:15Bjoergen now goes to the top of this list of winter Olympic greats. These

1:04:15 > 1:04:19are in terms of most medals won. Marit Bjoergen top of that list with

1:04:19 > 1:04:2714 of them.

1:04:39 > 1:04:44Ireen Wust is the only one that list who is a speed skater and she will

1:04:44 > 1:04:48be in action later, so she could add that.

1:04:53 > 1:04:58Marit Bjoergen goes to the top without bronze medal she took in the

1:04:58 > 1:05:07team sprint.

1:05:12 > 1:05:18Now, the last time a British women's bob finished in the Olympics was

1:05:18 > 1:05:28in...Ninth place. And I was there. It is about the whole team

1:05:28 > 1:05:31contributing to the performance. There's no way I could have done

1:05:31 > 1:05:35what I did in my career without amazing team-mates.Amy Williams

1:05:35 > 1:05:41with us as well, our skeleton champion from 2010. This is a huge

1:05:41 > 1:05:44moment for the women's bob sleigh and for another sliding sport to

1:05:44 > 1:05:49appeal to a new generation of girls. I think that has been the joy of the

1:05:49 > 1:05:53Winter Games this year, it has inspired so many people. For these

1:05:53 > 1:06:00two

1:06:00 > 1:06:04two girls, for Mica to be driving into third place, it is achievable

1:06:04 > 1:06:14for her to achieve that which is so exciting. Before that, we will tell

1:06:14 > 1:06:19you a bit more about the story of Mica Moore and Mica McNeill. It has

1:06:19 > 1:06:28been a real story for them to get here, not just athletically but to

1:06:28 > 1:06:32fund themselves, because this is a team funded by the people. All of

1:06:32 > 1:06:36that hard years that we have worked thinking, this is Olympic year, we

1:06:36 > 1:06:42want to go into this year in the best shape possible and then it just

1:06:42 > 1:06:48gets stopped. It was absolutely heartbreaking. BBC sport understands

1:06:48 > 1:06:55that bobsleigh is set to withdraw funding from its women's team just

1:06:55 > 1:06:59five months before the Olympics. Mica McNeill said she was shocked

1:06:59 > 1:07:03and gutted to discover there was no money left to fund her team because

1:07:03 > 1:07:10of an overspend. It was my career very, very low. As low as you can

1:07:10 > 1:07:14get. You have worked hard and it is crushed. You don't know if you can

1:07:14 > 1:07:19turn from that.

1:07:19 > 1:07:22turn from that.We instantly came together with a plan that we could

1:07:22 > 1:07:26move forward swiftly with because the season was coming round very

1:07:26 > 1:07:34quickly and I think we did that very well.

1:07:34 > 1:07:38well.I honestly didn't know if it was going to work. I thought we

1:07:38 > 1:07:42might get a terrible response, like we might get a lot of criticism for

1:07:42 > 1:07:46setting this up. But we set it up and then it just sort of started

1:07:46 > 1:07:53rolling.Seeing people logging in to support us that our boss and our

1:07:53 > 1:07:57journey was just amazing. We want to say thank you to all your

1:07:57 > 1:08:01contributions for our campaign. We are so grateful. We have had a good

1:08:01 > 1:08:08few days out on the Ivor Bell so excited for our season.Maybe those

1:08:08 > 1:08:13of you watching at home centre view quit their way. Nearly £50,000 was

1:08:13 > 1:08:18raised for them. A good start. Let's see the British girls on their way.

1:08:18 > 1:08:24Terrific. Clean out of 15. Eyes on seventh place. Six she goes. What a

1:08:24 > 1:08:32good run that was from Mica and Mica.Mica is starting to become a

1:08:32 > 1:08:36really good pilot. They just need a little bit more horsepower at the

1:08:36 > 1:08:40top and by that start. That is all they are missing. This is the reason

1:08:40 > 1:08:44they are flying because she has nailed this trade every time she has

1:08:44 > 1:08:49come through it.History was made on the ice today with the first African

1:08:49 > 1:08:55and indeed the Nigerian bobsleigh team. Their debut appearance showed

1:08:55 > 1:09:02the inexperience of the pilot, but the bands -- fans were enthusiastic

1:09:02 > 1:09:07nonetheless and they were thrilled that the hair, despite finishing

1:09:07 > 1:09:19last. 30 years after call running -- cool running, the Jamaicans were

1:09:19 > 1:09:28slightly off the pace with no coach to fine tune their run. A I have

1:09:28 > 1:09:32finished seems unlikely. So do the key contenders, Canada set the early

1:09:32 > 1:09:32finished seems unlikely. So do the key contenders, Canada set the early

1:09:32 > 1:09:39lead with a time of 50.70 two. Not one of her finer runs, especially

1:09:39 > 1:09:46with the Americans and Germans hot on her tail. The pilot on the United

1:09:46 > 1:09:49States have won everything except Olympic girl and cheese set the

1:09:49 > 1:09:55fastest time to knock the reigning champion of her perch with a time of

1:09:55 > 1:10:0050.50 two. That time proved impassable despite a terrific time

1:10:00 > 1:10:04from the German pair, who finished a tantalising to hamper of a second

1:10:04 > 1:10:09behind the leaders. US team-mates Jamie Gribble Poser and partner Amy

1:10:09 > 1:10:16Evans finished a close third. With reigning champion Humphreys of

1:10:16 > 1:10:21Canada lying in fifth with our crowd funded duo Mica and Mica in six

1:10:21 > 1:10:28going into heat two. For Great Britain in sixth place,

1:10:28 > 1:10:33Mica McNeill -- Mica McNeill and Mica Moore. Mica is driving this

1:10:33 > 1:10:39track really well. You can see the gap is starting to close that this

1:10:39 > 1:10:44is the part of the track she's been doing so well, getting this straight

1:10:44 > 1:10:48right. If she comes through here clean, she gets a little bit of tap

1:10:48 > 1:10:52but she's carrying enough speed at this point... That's another

1:10:52 > 1:10:56mistake. She needs to settle into this run. She is clothing but is

1:10:56 > 1:11:01there enough track the incoming of the Canadians at the bottom? It has

1:11:01 > 1:11:07gone green. They are quicker. Can they put pressure on Humphreys? They

1:11:07 > 1:11:18are going to end run to no worse than 60 with 50 point -- 52.9 five.

1:11:18 > 1:11:22Now, work to do here for Humphreys if she is to hold onto the gold

1:11:22 > 1:11:26medal for a third time.Great start. I don't know if Mica will come in

1:11:26 > 1:11:32front of her here but she is losing speed to the British sled. There are

1:11:32 > 1:11:34real doubt say now that Humphreys will be able to get another gold

1:11:34 > 1:11:42medal.Now, is this where Schneider was stop pulling ahead of Kaillie

1:11:42 > 1:11:46Humphries because she has started losing speed? It certainly looks

1:11:46 > 1:11:49like she is losing speed at the bottom camp at the Kaillie

1:11:49 > 1:11:53Humphries.The German pair don't normally lose speed, do they? And

1:11:53 > 1:12:03the Germans go ahead? Yes, is the answer. This is >> Jamanka -- this

1:12:03 > 1:12:14yum anchor. The best person to pledge will miss the meadow. -- the

1:12:14 > 1:12:20first person to flinch will miss the medal today. She has got to keep a

1:12:20 > 1:12:27good margin here as she comes down to beat speed trap.It is a growing

1:12:27 > 1:12:34margin as well. The German has put herself in a great position and is

1:12:34 > 1:12:44currently in first place. Now, the Americans. They have a 200th

1:12:44 > 1:12:49advantage as Elana Meyers Taylor goes in pursuit of the one prize

1:12:49 > 1:12:53that has eluded her through her career, an Olympic gold medal. This

1:12:53 > 1:12:57is why they are in the lead and that is a big mistake. That will cost

1:12:57 > 1:13:02out. That 23 hundredths, I don't think she will have that at the

1:13:02 > 1:13:08bottom. She has lost that into corners. She will struggle. Germany

1:13:08 > 1:13:13and the United States, the two will be the leaders and Elana Meyers

1:13:13 > 1:13:21Taylor has just lost the lead. The big message though is that those two

1:13:21 > 1:13:29are now a comfortable margin ahead of Schneider, Gribble Poser and

1:13:29 > 1:13:34McNeill.And down in sixth place is the great British pair. Not far off

1:13:34 > 1:13:39the medal. Is it possible? It is. This track has shown anything is

1:13:39 > 1:13:44possible. The form book has been torn up.What do they need to do,

1:13:44 > 1:13:48Amy?They need to hold it together and not do anything different. Don't

1:13:48 > 1:13:51get freaked out by the fact they are in a position they never thought

1:13:51 > 1:13:57they would be.We will head over there in an hour's time but we are

1:13:57 > 1:14:00going back to cross-country skiing because we saw a vocational finish

1:14:00 > 1:14:07to women's cross-country skiing, with a photo finish and Bjoergen

1:14:07 > 1:14:11going up to the top of the all-time greats list. This is the men's team

1:14:11 > 1:14:15final. We were hoping to maybe the Andrew Musgrave and Andrew Young in

1:14:15 > 1:14:19there for Great Britain but as Rob Walker explained, that was

1:14:19 > 1:14:26impossible. Yes, thank you, Claire. This great

1:14:26 > 1:14:30race is about to start. If it's half as good as the women's final we have

1:14:30 > 1:14:35just enjoyed, we are written for another treat. Just a quick headline

1:14:35 > 1:14:39on Andrew Young and Andrew Musgrave, just missing out on a fastest loser

1:14:39 > 1:14:45's spot in this final. But they didn't finish the men's team sprint

1:14:45 > 1:14:49in Sochi or Vancouver. Andrew Young suffers from a condition called

1:14:49 > 1:14:53tacky cardia which means that the type of pressure being put on the

1:14:53 > 1:14:57heart head when you are burning at full space for three minutes and

1:14:57 > 1:15:01then stopping while your team-mate goes means he has had quite a lot of

1:15:01 > 1:15:08races which he hasn't managed to finish. The two Britons doing the

1:15:08 > 1:15:17nation proud, a great effort, with Andrew Musgrave 's thoughts turning

1:15:17 > 1:15:24to his final on Saturday. So, no British duo in here but we have a

1:15:24 > 1:15:32world-class pair of very, very young talented skiers from the Olympic

1:15:32 > 1:15:37athletes of Russia. And it's Dennis bits of on the lead leg for them. He

1:15:37 > 1:15:42got a bronze in the 15 K, a silver in the relay. He leads and the

1:15:42 > 1:15:48question here surely is whether these Olympic athletes of Russia can

1:15:48 > 1:15:54put the Norwegians or the Swedes under pressure? 16 is Marcus Helmer,

1:15:54 > 1:16:00a legendary figure in Swedish skiing, possibly a shade past his

1:16:00 > 1:16:06best and coming up now, Ollie, the familiar red script -- strip of

1:16:06 > 1:16:09Norway. They will not like the fact they got bronze in the women's

1:16:09 > 1:16:17event, despite history being written for Bjoergen.Yes, watch out for

1:16:17 > 1:16:21Norway when they handover in a moment. Norway won't even on the

1:16:21 > 1:16:25podium four years ago. They finished fourth in this. Norway treat this

1:16:25 > 1:16:30like football. This is their Super Bowl, if you like. Same in Sweden,

1:16:30 > 1:16:34so it is Norway versus Sweden, Sweden looking a little more

1:16:34 > 1:16:39impressive than we thought. Your contenders here, the Olympic

1:16:39 > 1:16:45Athletes from Russia wearing 15, Norway in one, Sweden in 16. What is

1:16:45 > 1:16:52two in particular as they can mount the first leg of six.

1:17:00 > 1:17:03Nicely bunched here, each of these men will ski three times, so Martin

1:17:03 > 1:17:11Johnsrud Sundby coming in behind, the Olympic athlete of Russia

1:17:11 > 1:17:20handing over to an incredible young talent, Alexander Bolshunov. And

1:17:20 > 1:17:30that young man with the pink poles and the pink helmet, he is Johannes

1:17:30 > 1:17:39Hoesflot Klaebo. He has made his own piece of history here, the youngest

1:17:39 > 1:17:42ever male cross-country skiing winter Olympic champion, two goals,

1:17:42 > 1:17:49one in the sprint and the other in the relay, and the manner of his

1:17:49 > 1:17:55victory as the cameras focusing on Helguson of Sweden, he is so good,

1:17:55 > 1:17:59Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, wearing bib and one, I think he is the

1:17:59 > 1:18:06equivalent of Usain Bolt. He has made it look ridiculously easy so

1:18:06 > 1:18:12far.And usually you mean that they have won by a distance, but he went

1:18:12 > 1:18:15out of his way to make those victories look easy. In the relay

1:18:15 > 1:18:19the other night, Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo parked himself behind Dennis

1:18:19 > 1:18:26Betts of and effectively at a mile jog ended up passing him to win. It

1:18:26 > 1:18:31was ridiculous how simple he made that look. Will he do it again

1:18:31 > 1:18:37tonight? He is up against a different athlete, he is up against

1:18:37 > 1:18:43Alexander

1:18:43 > 1:18:45Alexander Bolshunov, not Denis Spitsov this time, and you can see

1:18:45 > 1:18:48him, Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, on the right-hand side, and Alexander

1:18:48 > 1:18:50Bolshunov looked incredible and relays, and what will be interested

1:18:50 > 1:18:56tonight is whether he pushes Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo more than

1:18:56 > 1:19:00Spitsov did in this final. And watch out as well for the Canadians can

1:19:00 > 1:19:06Alex Harvey on the second leg for them, will they have taken

1:19:06 > 1:19:10inspiration from the North American rivals? No Canadian men have ever

1:19:10 > 1:19:20won skiing medal. Alex Harvey didn't take part in the four by ten

1:19:20 > 1:19:24kilometres relay. Remember if you are just joining us, only two men

1:19:24 > 1:19:28per nation, they ski three times each, that is Johannes Hoesflot

1:19:28 > 1:19:32Klaebo going for a hat-trick of goals. There is his team-mate,

1:19:32 > 1:19:41Martin Johnsrud Sundby. We have seen the first piece of skiing from

1:19:41 > 1:19:43Alexander Bolshunov, not the fireworks we were expecting from the

1:19:43 > 1:19:47Russian, who is level with the German in a roundabout fourth place.

1:19:47 > 1:19:59It is Sweden from the French, and they have got a fine pair, that is

1:19:59 > 1:20:11Richard Jouve coming across and Maurice Manisa cat. A big group

1:20:11 > 1:20:13coming together here, Martin Johnsrud Sundby in third place, so

1:20:13 > 1:20:19when will the big move,, and who will it be from? This is a race that

1:20:19 > 1:20:25unfolds very quickly. That fall is Eric Bjornson of the United States,

1:20:25 > 1:20:30a real shame for him. He will hand off to Simeon Hamilton, they are

1:20:30 > 1:20:35really going for this up an incline that is steeper than it may one

1:20:35 > 1:20:44appear. He is third from the left hand side, and he just caught up on

1:20:44 > 1:20:50the experienced Italian. That is a savage blow to the Americans to get

1:20:50 > 1:20:57into the mix. That is pretty much the end of that. Maurice Manificat

1:20:57 > 1:21:04France wearing the number four, just tucked in behind Sweden. He

1:21:04 > 1:21:07scratched from the 50 kilometres finale for the men on Saturday, and

1:21:07 > 1:21:11this has been such a frustrating Olympics for him, he has won bronze

1:21:11 > 1:21:16medal but he finished fifth twice in the individual races, and he will be

1:21:16 > 1:21:19doing everything he can to get on that podium as we watch them

1:21:19 > 1:21:23frantically preparing the skis at the bottom of the course. For the

1:21:23 > 1:21:29relay, Dennis Betts off complained bitterly that his wax did not look

1:21:29 > 1:21:34as good as Norway's. Norway looked supreme that time around, and here

1:21:34 > 1:21:40comes Martin Johnsrud Sundby, moving forward to join Sweden now. Marcus

1:21:40 > 1:21:46Hellner leads the Sweden, and surely in his last Winter Olympics, he was

1:21:46 > 1:21:5133 years old, and he seemed to be chasing a gold that seem to escape

1:21:51 > 1:21:58him, not so after the relay. He has had silver medals in the relay in

1:21:58 > 1:22:03bronze and silver medals, and he is in second place behind Marcus

1:22:03 > 1:22:10Holness. Maurice Manificat, the Frenchman in third, at the young duo

1:22:10 > 1:22:15from the Olympic athletes of Russia. Germany five, Italy six, and then

1:22:15 > 1:22:18the Americans, Eric Bjornson trying to make amends with that fall up the

1:22:18 > 1:22:27first hill. We are at the halfway stage here. Marcus Helmer, and son

1:22:27 > 1:22:34be. They have skied two of their three circuits, and now it is the

1:22:34 > 1:22:41return of Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. He is arguably has more on paper

1:22:41 > 1:22:50than Richard Jouve. The Finn is in the seven. Alex Harvey heading out

1:22:50 > 1:22:56onto the course, but it is Alexander Bolshunov and Johannes Hoesflot

1:22:56 > 1:23:01Klaebo, and we have Sweden still in the mix. It is single file, they are

1:23:01 > 1:23:10all in a line, and most of the big names are in contention as they

1:23:10 > 1:23:17embark on the fourth circuit. To give you a bit of context, they will

1:23:17 > 1:23:21be sitting at home in their tens of millions watching this. This is a

1:23:21 > 1:23:25huge sport for Norway. Their new superstar, they have already had a

1:23:25 > 1:23:30big day. They hit their target of 30 medals for Norway at these games,

1:23:30 > 1:23:38and they have surpassed their target. The men's ice

1:23:38 > 1:23:39target. The men's ice hockey team reach the quarterfinals at an

1:23:39 > 1:23:42Olympic tournament for the first time ever today, and they will be

1:23:42 > 1:23:48expecting Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo to cap it all off in supreme style

1:23:48 > 1:23:51by brushing past Alexander Bolshunov, but we have already seen

1:23:51 > 1:24:00that Alexander Bolshunov has so much to give, and age. Both of them 21,

1:24:00 > 1:24:07and it is that young Olympic Athlete from Russia, wearing bib 15, bronze

1:24:07 > 1:24:11in the spread, silver in the relay, five times he has been on the World

1:24:11 > 1:24:15Cup podium this year, but there is the man streaking up the right-hand

1:24:15 > 1:24:21side, he has his own distinct style up the hills, and that was massive

1:24:21 > 1:24:25from Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. That is why they refer to him as the

1:24:25 > 1:24:32Usain Bolt of snow. In the last 40 metres of backline, he has just

1:24:32 > 1:24:37shown why he is the new global star. He has won nine of 12 World Cup

1:24:37 > 1:24:40events so far this season, but it is one thing winning here and there

1:24:40 > 1:24:44around Europe, it is quite another when you arrive here is one of the

1:24:44 > 1:24:51favourites and you deliver not won or two, but maybe three. We have

1:24:51 > 1:24:59still got one complete circuit each of the two team

1:24:59 > 1:25:00of the two team members, but Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo has shown

1:25:00 > 1:25:05why so many people in this sport are excited about what he is doing and

1:25:05 > 1:25:12what he is capable of doing in the future. Norway are in the lead with

1:25:12 > 1:25:15two circuits remaining.A complete change could lead to a couple of

1:25:15 > 1:25:20days ago, we Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo sat behind Denis Spitsov of

1:25:20 > 1:25:23Russia and only at the end gently went past him to take that gold

1:25:23 > 1:25:27medal. This time around, clearly baulk is thinking to himself, let's

1:25:27 > 1:25:33not leave this to chance, let's go and put as much distance as we can,

1:25:33 > 1:25:38as early as we can, and make these four Chase, make them break

1:25:38 > 1:25:42themselves of those hills pursuing Martin Johnsrud Sundby. That is a

1:25:42 > 1:25:46completely different strategy for Norway, and you can see now Martin

1:25:46 > 1:25:50Johnsrud Sundby trying to preserve as much of that gap as he can. Three

1:25:50 > 1:25:53seconds in almost any other race wouldn't seem like that much, but in

1:25:53 > 1:25:56team spread like this, three seconds is a healthy gap for Norway to have

1:25:56 > 1:26:04at this stage. He will be feeling it, they all will. They have skied a

1:26:04 > 1:26:08semifinal, and here they are on the third of their lung bursting

1:26:08 > 1:26:13circuits. Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo's acceleration of that very steep hill

1:26:13 > 1:26:18has given Martin Johnsrud Sundby an opportunity to extend the advantage,

1:26:18 > 1:26:21and Marcus Hellner of Sweden is not closing at the moment from second.

1:26:21 > 1:26:29Neither is Denis Spitsov in third. For the other

1:26:29 > 1:26:34For the other fourth are the French, and after this, it is down to their

1:26:34 > 1:26:37team-mates to anchor them home. This is superb from Martin Johnsrud

1:26:37 > 1:26:47Sundby. He was given the lead from Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, he is

1:26:47 > 1:26:51arguably past his best, but he has been fantastic today in the semis

1:26:51 > 1:26:54and here in the final, and so is Maurice Manificat, the French man in

1:26:54 > 1:27:00his last games, Izzy? And if he is, is he finishing in style with a

1:27:00 > 1:27:03medal. The French are right up there, and the youngsters from

1:27:03 > 1:27:06Russia are coming under some pressure here ahead of the sixth and

1:27:06 > 1:27:15final circuit. There is Martin Johnsrud Sundby. He has been a

1:27:15 > 1:27:17superb ambassador for Norwegian cross-country skiing. He has been

1:27:17 > 1:27:22beaten a few times by the man he is about a tap on the back, and he says

1:27:22 > 1:27:25he is so talented, Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, it is almost embarrassing to

1:27:25 > 1:27:28be in the same race as him sometimes. And that from a man who

1:27:28 > 1:27:32has stood on the top of the Winter Olympics podium. Martin Johnsrud

1:27:32 > 1:27:36Sundby has built on the lead that Klaebo delivered. Sweden in second,

1:27:36 > 1:27:41the Olympic athletes of Russia in fourth, and it is the French in the

1:27:41 > 1:27:46battle for the podium as well, Maurice Manificat has been

1:27:46 > 1:27:50magnificent, as Klaebo embarks on this bid for a hat-trick of golds,

1:27:50 > 1:27:54all before his 22nd birthday. They are in the driving seat here. What

1:27:54 > 1:28:00can the best of the rest do to close it down on this last circuit? Surely

1:28:00 > 1:28:05this is Norway's and Klaebo's Toulouse?It seems almost impossible

1:28:05 > 1:28:09to envisage circumstances that would stop Batman from winning. They will

1:28:09 > 1:28:14try anything. This has been so impressive from Sweden. We maybe

1:28:14 > 1:28:17didn't have them as medal prospect at the start of this but they are

1:28:17 > 1:28:22keeping in touch, but you can now see that it is the French and the

1:28:22 > 1:28:26Olympic Athletes from Russia that are just trying to take this away

1:28:26 > 1:28:32from Halvorsen, the 28 euros from Sweden, who has never really been a

1:28:32 > 1:28:36force in the team spread. He checks behind him to see what the gap is to

1:28:36 > 1:28:40the remainder of the pack, and it looks like the three medals will

1:28:40 > 1:28:46come from those four, but it is almost impossible to figure out how

1:28:46 > 1:28:49Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo can be stopped. Once again, it almost looks

1:28:49 > 1:28:53like he will have a bit of a procession to that gold medal, the

1:28:53 > 1:29:02way he is going. It is a brilliant performance from Klaebo, because it

1:29:02 > 1:29:10was looking tight. He is now driving up that hill, trying to get into the

1:29:10 > 1:29:12silver medal position. Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo had enough time to

1:29:12 > 1:29:16pick up the Norwegian flag as he ambled his way across the finish

1:29:16 > 1:29:21line, a desperate battle to silver and bronze at the moment being won

1:29:21 > 1:29:24by Alexander Bolshunov, the Olympic litre Russia, and what a performance

1:29:24 > 1:29:28from the French. Richard Jouve building on the great work of

1:29:28 > 1:29:34Maurice Manificat, and Sweden now beginning to become detached. So it

1:29:34 > 1:29:39is Norway from the Olympic athletes of Russia, with France in third. As

1:29:39 > 1:29:46now they begin to think about their big drive towards the line. Calle

1:29:46 > 1:29:51Halfvarsson has got to close the gap. This is phenomenal from

1:29:51 > 1:29:54Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, he is 21 years of age and he is away and

1:29:54 > 1:30:00clear. And how he will enjoy these celebrations as he comes into the

1:30:00 > 1:30:03finish. He will be unaware of the drama unfolding behind him, but he

1:30:03 > 1:30:07does have time to look over his shoulder. We are watching someone

1:30:07 > 1:30:14who is as exciting in his sport as Usain Bolt was ten years ago when he

1:30:14 > 1:30:17pumped his chest as he crossed the line in Beijing. A global star is

1:30:17 > 1:30:23born. He wears pink shades, but it is all gold for the Klaebo, silver

1:30:23 > 1:30:26for the Olympic athletes of Russia and a brilliant bronze for the

1:30:26 > 1:30:33French. Klaebo made that look easy. He is already a household name in

1:30:33 > 1:30:38Norway, and tonight he produces an incredible hat-trick, three golds,

1:30:38 > 1:30:43and he is still yet to turn 22. He could be around for a very, very

1:30:43 > 1:30:48long time to come.

1:30:48 > 1:30:53And once again, he makes it look like the simplest art in the world.

1:30:53 > 1:30:57It is easy when we took about Klaebo to overlook the achievement of his

1:30:57 > 1:31:02team-mates each time because without help in the relay, he would have

1:31:02 > 1:31:05been nowhere, without help from Martin Johnsrud Sundby tonight, he

1:31:05 > 1:31:10would have been nowhere, but it is the style with which he finishes

1:31:10 > 1:31:13these races that sets him apart and draws that comparison with Usain

1:31:13 > 1:31:19Bolt because he brings charisma, personality, and he just uses

1:31:19 > 1:31:23presence, even when he is finishing an Olympic final and Norway love

1:31:23 > 1:31:27that man. They are already talking about multi-million pound

1:31:27 > 1:31:33sponsorships for Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. It is their national sport,

1:31:33 > 1:31:40he is their national hero.Well, what celebrations there will be for

1:31:40 > 1:31:48the Norwegians tonight. The again made history with a bronze, moving

1:31:48 > 1:31:54to 14 medals in all but gold is the colour that obsessed the nation he

1:31:54 > 1:31:57grow up on skis, on cross-country tracks almost as soon as they can

1:31:57 > 1:32:04walk, they are out on the tracks. A fantastic performance. Norway on top

1:32:04 > 1:32:10on the men's team sprint tonight. And Rob, looking at those pictures,

1:32:10 > 1:32:14there really does seem to be, there is so much interest in this event

1:32:14 > 1:32:18and so much respect for these athletes because, gosh, they have to

1:32:18 > 1:32:22work for it.Do you know what, Claire, it has been a privilege

1:32:22 > 1:32:29sitting in the commentary box for both Ollie Williams and myself. In

1:32:29 > 1:32:33every single race apart from when it Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, the man

1:32:33 > 1:32:39with the pink shades, everybody else collapses over the line. It's the

1:32:39 > 1:32:42ultimate all-round test of your upper body as well as your legs

1:32:42 > 1:32:45aren't the only person I've ever seen, crossed the finish line and

1:32:45 > 1:32:50not collapse in a heap is Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, who is now a

1:32:50 > 1:32:53three-time Winter Olympic champion at the age of 21. It is so much

1:32:53 > 1:32:58harder than it may appear, this board, Claire, it really, really is.

1:32:58 > 1:33:02They earn every ounce of the medals they are presented with on the

1:33:02 > 1:33:07podium and there is a great esprit de corps with these men and women,

1:33:07 > 1:33:11Claire, because I think they are all aware of how hard everyone else's

1:33:11 > 1:33:17working. So, yes, there's a little bit of needle between the Norwegians

1:33:17 > 1:33:20and the Swedes sometimes, but there is enormous mutual respect between

1:33:20 > 1:33:24these men and women. They know how hard their sport is. Believe me, it

1:33:24 > 1:33:29looks like it as well and that is why we should respect what Andrew

1:33:29 > 1:33:34Musgrave has achieved in these games, finishing seventh in the

1:33:34 > 1:33:37skiathlon, best finish ever the British cross-country skier. But he

1:33:37 > 1:33:44and Andrew Young teamed up for the team sprint and went out in the

1:33:44 > 1:33:50semifinals. Give us more detail on that.I don't think it was about

1:33:50 > 1:33:54performance, Claire, because they went in the first semifinal,

1:33:54 > 1:33:57finished in sixth place and the way these events work, you have two from

1:33:57 > 1:34:04each semifinal plus six fastest losers in all, so they were in a

1:34:04 > 1:34:08spot after the first semifinal, they just missed out on a spot in the

1:34:08 > 1:34:13final, but to put this in context, Andrew Young has a condition called

1:34:13 > 1:34:18tacky cardia which means it's very difficult by him to get his post

1:34:18 > 1:34:21back under control if he is doing interval efforts and this is an

1:34:21 > 1:34:26event where you share intervals with your compatriots, going hard for

1:34:26 > 1:34:30three minutes and waiting for three minutes. They weren't able to finish

1:34:30 > 1:34:35their semifinal in the team sprint in Vancouver or Suchy, so the fact

1:34:35 > 1:34:40they were in with a shout at a fastest loser spot shows progress.

1:34:40 > 1:34:43And the fact they are both three-time Winter Olympians, Andrew

1:34:43 > 1:34:48Musgrave what have another chance in the 50 K, and he has done a huge

1:34:48 > 1:34:55amount, they both have, to further the cause of cross-country skiing.

1:34:55 > 1:35:00You would have thought British skier would finish in the top ten ten

1:35:00 > 1:35:04years ago. He was seventh in the skiathlon and maybe there is more to

1:35:04 > 1:35:10come in the 50 K.Let us hope so. Thank you so much for all your work,

1:35:10 > 1:35:12Rob, and there with confirmation of the results.

1:35:18 > 1:35:25So, the medal table, well, Norway are having a very good day.

1:35:36 > 1:35:41Great Britain still in 16th thanks to that gold medal from Lizzy

1:35:41 > 1:35:46Yarnold in the skeleton. Earlier this morning, we saw the women's

1:35:46 > 1:35:50downhill and Lindsay Vonn taking a bronze medal and she has been

1:35:50 > 1:35:54extremely emotional, knowing that this will be her last Winter Olympic

1:35:54 > 1:35:59appearance and she is there on the podium once again. She has come back

1:35:59 > 1:36:04from so many injuries. She lays it all out there on the mountain. And

1:36:04 > 1:36:07while a bit of power will be disappointed that she didn't quite

1:36:07 > 1:36:13go quick enough to secure the gold medal, another Olympic medal for her

1:36:13 > 1:36:17is a real achievement. Thomas park they're making the presentation and

1:36:17 > 1:36:23hugging Lindsay Vonn. And you saw her interview with Jamie Alcott

1:36:23 > 1:36:27earlier where they both broke down. She is very raw at the moment,

1:36:27 > 1:36:33Lindsay Vonn, but that is a tremendous performance. And Sofia

1:36:33 > 1:36:37Goggia from Italy took the gold medal, Italy's first-ever win in the

1:36:37 > 1:36:43women's downhill. And they haven't actually one that many Alpine

1:36:43 > 1:36:49medals, very huge, huge moment for the Italians. Right, building up to

1:36:49 > 1:36:55the third run of the women's bobsleigh and it is just about 40

1:36:55 > 1:37:00minutes away. It is a sport that, Nicola, a lot of people cross into

1:37:00 > 1:37:04it from other sports, there have been some athletes, for example. It

1:37:04 > 1:37:12is. I transferred from Olympics myself.

1:37:12 > 1:37:16myself. Mica did a lot of different sports. Most people transfer over

1:37:16 > 1:37:20from anything that is short power and actually the UK have one of the

1:37:20 > 1:37:25best chance for programmes which spans across all sports. I know huge

1:37:25 > 1:37:29numbers for skeletons as well, which means we take athletes who perhaps

1:37:29 > 1:37:35either have achieved or they have specific skills for a sport and slot

1:37:35 > 1:37:41them into it. Put them where their skills seat and we see people

1:37:41 > 1:37:45winning medals. And if you were to sell Winter sports and sliding

1:37:45 > 1:37:49sports in particular, Amy, what is the best thing about that?

1:37:49 > 1:37:55Everything! You can transfer your skills across. It's the excitement,

1:37:55 > 1:37:59the unknown. The weather conditions are so interchangeable between the

1:37:59 > 1:38:06eyes, the snow, whether it's -2, -5, will it snow, will it be foggy? The

1:38:06 > 1:38:09extreme nest takes it to another level and yet there's still a real

1:38:09 > 1:38:14physical side to it as well. You still have to train like a sprinter,

1:38:14 > 1:38:19be powerful of the blocks in our sports. It's great that you can

1:38:19 > 1:38:24transfer your skills across from summer. My

1:38:25 > 1:38:28summer. My dream was to be a 400 metre runner but it never quite

1:38:28 > 1:38:30happened, yet you can switch to a sliding sport. And become an Olympic

1:38:30 > 1:38:34champion, as you have been. Lizzy Yarnold was a heptathlete, moved

1:38:34 > 1:38:41into skeleton and now she is a history maker. Britain's first-ever

1:38:41 > 1:38:45double Winter Olympics champion. This is her story. I know I am a

1:38:45 > 1:38:50ruthless competitor when it comes to it, it is me and the track. You are

1:38:50 > 1:38:54lying on the sled listening to the rattle or the vibrations of the ice.

1:38:54 > 1:39:01It's just a complete orchestra of information. You have to be sure if

1:39:01 > 1:39:06you go headfirst. Nothing to block you, nothing to stop you, nothing

1:39:06 > 1:39:11between you and triumph or disaster. You just really have to look at the

1:39:11 > 1:39:15eyes, understand what the basics are of the ice and then on the first day

1:39:15 > 1:39:19of training, jump on the shed, go down and see what it's doing with

1:39:19 > 1:39:26you.I haven't always run three Lizzy Yarnold's games though. She

1:39:26 > 1:39:30wanted to be a heptathlete long before a UK sport scheme pointed

1:39:30 > 1:39:35head towards a sled. She relied on the generosity of others initially.

1:39:35 > 1:39:38A work colleague called Mervyn sponsored her when money was short.

1:39:38 > 1:39:48Has led still bears his name. Back then, Lizzie worked in insurance, a

1:39:48 > 1:39:52trade based on knowing what can go wrong. A sport she is beginning to

1:39:52 > 1:39:57dominate is one of terrifying risks. Lizzy Yarnold has a few terrifying

1:39:57 > 1:40:04moments to wait.Everything was building to Sochi.Lizzy Yarnold

1:40:04 > 1:40:10goes for gold for Great Britain. She hit outside, it doesn't matter, she

1:40:10 > 1:40:15will win gold, surely? She's going to do it. Lizzy Yarnold is the

1:40:15 > 1:40:19Olympic champion! Oh my goodness. Well, maybe she will keep sliding

1:40:19 > 1:40:27and comeback in four years, who knows?I think she will.Within 407

1:40:27 > 1:40:32days of her gold, she had won every skeleton title there was to win and

1:40:32 > 1:40:36then she walked away.I quite quickly knuckled back down, focused

1:40:36 > 1:40:40in on these new challenges and then realised that I was just at the

1:40:40 > 1:40:46point of exhaustion and I needed to get away. She had a year out, got

1:40:46 > 1:40:49married, and then she came back to it. She always intended to go back

1:40:49 > 1:40:55to the Olympics to defend her title. But you can't simply slide back into

1:40:55 > 1:41:00the skeleton. Sweat comes before the eyes and last year she was diagnosed

1:41:00 > 1:41:05with an innately disorder that affects balance. At the same time,

1:41:05 > 1:41:10she couldn't find her former speed. In our World Cup races this season,

1:41:10 > 1:41:18Lizzy Yarnold was outside the top ten.The lesson that I think I

1:41:18 > 1:41:22needed was to respect sport and respect the day of competition, but

1:41:22 > 1:41:26mainly to understand that I do know what I'm doing and I need to trust

1:41:26 > 1:41:33myself lot more.To those on the outside, the signs weren't good, but

1:41:33 > 1:41:37as Pyeongchang approach, Yarnold was positive. To have the confidence and

1:41:37 > 1:41:42faith in this plan that will be taking me to Pyeongchang, it's not

1:41:42 > 1:41:46about the World Cups, it's about trying to become the first British

1:41:46 > 1:41:52Winter Olympian to retain my title. She goes first. Clearly Lizzy

1:41:52 > 1:41:59Yarnold is here for business. It was a lightning start, run one, position

1:41:59 > 1:42:04one, but something was wrong. The dizziness seemed to have returned.

1:42:04 > 1:42:07Lizzie was also struggling to breathe because of a chest

1:42:07 > 1:42:14infection. She was close to pulling out.

1:42:14 > 1:42:19out.The Olympic champion. Can she make history and win it again?Look

1:42:19 > 1:42:24at the gap. She has got half a second. This could be at least

1:42:24 > 1:42:30silver for Lizzy Yarnold. She goes to the front and how! With that, the

1:42:30 > 1:42:34grammar school girl from Kent had become one of Britain's greatest

1:42:34 > 1:42:38sportswomen, a back-to-back Olympic champion.

1:42:38 > 1:42:43And she may refuse to answer the question of what next, but Amy

1:42:43 > 1:42:48Williams, in your opinion, what next for Lizzy Yarnold?Having not spoken

1:42:48 > 1:42:52to her next, but if I was her, I would go and take a bit of time out,

1:42:52 > 1:42:56see what it is like when you get home and all the press and what you

1:42:56 > 1:43:01can do to inspire, go and have a holiday, and knowing her, she will

1:43:01 > 1:43:09feel like she's in the prime of her life, fully funded on an incredible

1:43:09 > 1:43:12programme, she probably will just continue. So you think you could do

1:43:12 > 1:43:17a third Olympics? Part of me says no, she will stop, maybe she will

1:43:17 > 1:43:20want to have children, the other half of me thinks maybe she would

1:43:20 > 1:43:24take a year out, still maybe have children, and then come back.

1:43:24 > 1:43:30Because she is having fun. Laura and her have fun, they have a great

1:43:30 > 1:43:35team, why wouldn't you continue? She is fit, healthy and strong. That

1:43:35 > 1:43:39helps, if you are not dealing with injuries all of the time at the

1:43:39 > 1:43:44tiring nature of that, it helps a positive about things. Yesterday, we

1:43:44 > 1:43:46were shell-shocked in the studio where we saw Elise Christie crash

1:43:46 > 1:43:52out once again than Olympics. Paralympics is over. No short track

1:43:52 > 1:43:58today but we do have long track. Less opportunity for but we do have

1:43:58 > 1:44:06the possibility of some. We will see the Dutch greats in action today.

1:44:06 > 1:44:10The Netherlands against the USA head. Let's rejoin Wilf O'Reilly and

1:44:10 > 1:44:17Simon by ten. Thank you, Claire. Presumably not so

1:44:17 > 1:44:24many video reviews either today in this long track. The Netherlands

1:44:24 > 1:44:28first on the track, the best of the semifinals in the women's team as

1:44:28 > 1:44:37you do. They are up against the United States.

1:44:41 > 1:44:48And this is a straight knockout here. Away they go first time, and

1:44:48 > 1:44:53look at these two teams lining up here. One would expect the Dutch to

1:44:53 > 1:45:01prove to be too strong of this event, aren't they? They have really

1:45:01 > 1:45:07put the domination of this event.

1:45:12 > 1:45:16And the Americans are already a quarter of a lap behind. It is a six

1:45:16 > 1:45:20laps race, and the winner from this final will go into the final, and

1:45:20 > 1:45:26then the winner of the Seki semifinal -- second semifinal will

1:45:26 > 1:45:35go in as well. And they have it all to do here. Nice smooth flowing

1:45:35 > 1:45:41style here from the United States, but they are already falling well

1:45:41 > 1:45:45behind to this magnificent Dutch team, the Dutch have won five gold

1:45:45 > 1:45:51medals and for silver in this particular distance. They have won

1:45:51 > 1:45:58the World Championship on four of the five occasions it has been held.

1:45:58 > 1:46:01And the tactics here will be that the Dutch as long as they win this

1:46:01 > 1:46:05race, they don't have to skate their socks off. They will be saving

1:46:05 > 1:46:09themselves later on this evening for the final. These team pursuit squads

1:46:09 > 1:46:19have four skaters, only three skate in any one race, and Marrit Leenstra

1:46:19 > 1:46:26is resting in this one. She could come in for the final fresh leg,

1:46:26 > 1:46:34raring to go.For the Americans, this is really all about if they

1:46:34 > 1:46:37finish second in the semifinal, they will meet the semifinal second place

1:46:37 > 1:46:40winner from the next round, and skate off later for the bronze

1:46:40 > 1:46:50medal.Antoinette de Jonge, on the front, and the Dutch look as if they

1:46:50 > 1:46:56are skating within themselves here. Very comfortable indeed, all four

1:46:56 > 1:47:02need to skate to get a medal, so what they have done now is they have

1:47:02 > 1:47:06put the reserve skater now inshore that that that person will get a

1:47:06 > 1:47:20medal.Antoinette De Jong, and there is Irene

1:47:20 > 1:47:23is Irene vast -- Ireen Wust, with more skating medals than any other

1:47:23 > 1:47:30athlete in history, male or female, and I think she will add another

1:47:30 > 1:47:33tonight, gold or silver, because they are winning this semifinal by a

1:47:33 > 1:47:38country mile, and the Netherlands coming around now, still nicely

1:47:38 > 1:47:43packed together. Working well as a team. They have been working on this

1:47:43 > 1:47:46for months now. Sometimes the teams are thrown together at the end just

1:47:46 > 1:47:48before the championship, but they have spent some time working

1:47:48 > 1:47:55together. And here come the United States. I think they always knew

1:47:55 > 1:47:59that they were going to be up against it against the Dutch. That

1:47:59 > 1:48:04was just like a very good warm up for the Dutch. There is the other

1:48:04 > 1:48:09skater who will skate in the final, perhaps the coach couldn't decide

1:48:09 > 1:48:13which of the four he could select three from. Just give you some the

1:48:13 > 1:48:21Netherlands in their heat skated a time of 2:55.61, so that is about

1:48:21 > 1:48:24four seconds slower than the heats, because this is a definite knockout

1:48:24 > 1:48:27race.They did look as if they had been Fraustro in the park when they

1:48:27 > 1:48:32cross the line. So the Dutch are through to the final. And as you can

1:48:32 > 1:48:37see, they were coming into the same straight as the United States. We do

1:48:37 > 1:48:40see that in team pursuit in track cycling rather more often, but of

1:48:40 > 1:48:46course as it is much smaller track, 250 metres in cycling as opposed to

1:48:46 > 1:48:51this 400 metres monster Oval. But the Dutch were really eating up the

1:48:51 > 1:48:55metres very quickly indeed. So the Netherlands through as the winners

1:48:55 > 1:49:02of the first semifinal, and the second semifinal will come up very

1:49:02 > 1:49:09quickly now, and it is between Canada and Japan. And that Canadians

1:49:09 > 1:49:22are represented by Keri Morrison and Isabelle Weidemann. Canada champions

1:49:22 > 1:49:27in this event but not since 2011, and Japan are the trio up against

1:49:27 > 1:49:36them, with me had Takagi, so she has had a really good Olympics, Miho

1:49:36 > 1:49:44Takagi, and they were the last team other than the Dutch to win the

1:49:44 > 1:49:48world title, but have had to settle for silver in each of the previous

1:49:48 > 1:49:54two years, so when it comes to the seedings and what we expect to see,

1:49:54 > 1:49:56we expect to see Japan against the Netherlands and the final, and it

1:49:56 > 1:50:00could be pretty competitive based on what we saw the quarterfinals.

1:50:00 > 1:50:06Absolutely.

1:50:16 > 1:50:19Well, for the uninitiated, why do they line up in the way that they do

1:50:19 > 1:50:22at the start? Some of the skaters, for example the Canadians will have

1:50:22 > 1:50:27a slower start, so some of the skaters prefer to be able to see

1:50:27 > 1:50:31where they are starting. You can see the skater on the back of Canada

1:50:31 > 1:50:35just pushing forward. They are allowed in fact to assist, so

1:50:35 > 1:50:40Isabelle Weidemann pushing the backside of skater number two

1:50:40 > 1:50:47imposition.And it is Miho Takagi on the front for Japan. They have

1:50:47 > 1:50:52settled into a very nice rhythm. Working well as a unit, and the

1:50:52 > 1:51:05Canada, it is if any blonde

1:51:05 > 1:51:07Canada, it is if any blonde -- Ivanie Blondin, and she is still on

1:51:07 > 1:51:10the front for the Canadians, just under a second slower than Japan.

1:51:10 > 1:51:14This is a six lap race. And it is all about conserving your energy,

1:51:14 > 1:51:18and I think what will happen, the Japanese are convinced they will win

1:51:18 > 1:51:24this race comfortable. They won't be using too much energy, saving it for

1:51:24 > 1:51:30the ultimate final, going for the gold medal.Japan have done well in

1:51:30 > 1:51:38World Cup race pursuits in recent times. They have employed a Dutch

1:51:38 > 1:51:42coach, you can see him in the background there in his Japan

1:51:42 > 1:51:45tracksuit. He will be giving them the lap times they need to skate to

1:51:45 > 1:51:49remain ahead of the Canadians but not give it too much energy that

1:51:49 > 1:51:53they can save the later on in the race.So what we are seeing is a

1:51:53 > 1:51:58measured effort from Japan. They have given themselves of elbow room

1:51:58 > 1:52:04over Canada, and on the front for the Canadians is Isabelle Weidemann,

1:52:04 > 1:52:09but you can clearly see Japan have the significant advantage, 1.76

1:52:09 > 1:52:12seconds, but the speed they are going, you can cover a lot of ground

1:52:12 > 1:52:18in that time.I would say it is probably in the region of 30-40

1:52:18 > 1:52:25metres.It has gone up a little more with two laps to go. You can see the

1:52:25 > 1:52:31steadying hand from the second skater onto the

1:52:31 > 1:52:38skater onto the backside of Nanna Takoradi. All those World

1:52:38 > 1:52:41Championships that were held here last year, somewhere in the region

1:52:41 > 1:52:45of two or three seconds slower than the times they have skated

1:52:45 > 1:52:49previously. And based on what we have seen from the Netherlands here,

1:52:49 > 1:52:53I think Japan are going to need to conserve every ounce of energy that

1:52:53 > 1:52:57they can. It could be a spectacular final between the Perofeta. Here

1:52:57 > 1:53:01come the Canadians, they are set to face the United States in an all

1:53:01 > 1:53:05North American race for the bronze medal, coming up a little bit later

1:53:05 > 1:53:08on. Just over two and a half seconds down here, but this has been nice

1:53:08 > 1:53:14and comfortable, a smooth effort from Japan. Remember that when it

1:53:14 > 1:53:17comes to team pursuit, it is the third skated across the line, so it

1:53:17 > 1:53:20is no point in doing what the Koreans did the other night and

1:53:20 > 1:53:26leave the third member of your team lagging behind, because it is their

1:53:26 > 1:53:30time that will count, and you need to have teamwork and not just the

1:53:30 > 1:53:35pure speed of your strongest athlete here, you are only the strongest as

1:53:35 > 1:53:44the weakest in your team. They are still two seconds quicker than the

1:53:44 > 1:53:46Dutch, but that won't really make any difference for the gold medal

1:53:46 > 1:53:55race.Oath of these semifinals went to form, and in both semifinals, the

1:53:55 > 1:53:59United States and Canada were unable to really prove to be competitive

1:53:59 > 1:54:03against the opposition, but I think it is fair to say that we are set up

1:54:03 > 1:54:09for a final that is not that easy to call.On paper you would certainly

1:54:09 > 1:54:15say that the Dutch have a good chance of retaining their title, but

1:54:15 > 1:54:20the progression that the Japanese had made, they are really compact

1:54:20 > 1:54:24team, they work well together, they make a very good train, they are all

1:54:24 > 1:54:30about the same height, so they are very streamlined from the front to

1:54:30 > 1:54:35the last athlete, so that works well. The athletes will go and warm

1:54:35 > 1:54:38down and prepare, because they will be in action a little bit later on.

1:54:38 > 1:54:44The Netherlands will race against Japan in the first final, and the B

1:54:44 > 1:54:49final will feature the United States of America against Canada. They will

1:54:49 > 1:54:53be resurfacing the ice here now, and then after that we will have the

1:54:53 > 1:55:01semifinals of the men's team pursuit.

1:55:02 > 1:55:07Everybody has to start somewhere. BBC Get Inspired will help you get

1:55:07 > 1:55:13involved and get active.

1:55:13 > 1:55:16involved and get active. Go to the website to find our activity guides.

1:55:16 > 1:55:19Enter your postcode, the sport you would like to try, or just click

1:55:19 > 1:55:23search to find out how to get involved near you. So where will you

1:55:23 > 1:55:33start? Get active, get involved, get inspired.

1:55:33 > 1:55:37That website is really good, actually. And one of the things

1:55:37 > 1:55:40about winter sport is there are some sports you could take up a little

1:55:40 > 1:55:46later, couldn't you? You don't have to be six.Absolutely. I transferred

1:55:46 > 1:55:51over to bobsleigh at 23. Before I was 23, I had no idea what it was,

1:55:51 > 1:55:55but I could transfer my skills from heptathlon and get into the sport

1:55:55 > 1:56:00and thankfully within two months I was already in Olympic team.I was

1:56:00 > 1:56:02talking to Alex Coomber about whether she could transfer to

1:56:02 > 1:56:05another sport, because she wants to get back into it, what would she

1:56:05 > 1:56:11choose? Because there is nothing of her, we were talking about ski

1:56:11 > 1:56:17jumping.Yes, she is tiny. She could fly from miles. Would you try an

1:56:17 > 1:56:22alternative winter sport? What can I do? When I look at short track all

1:56:22 > 1:56:28on track skating, I am like, they have quads to die for, and when you

1:56:28 > 1:56:31hear it, the sound of the skates on the ice is such a beautiful noise,

1:56:31 > 1:56:39it makes you want to put some skates on and go.And as you know, in

1:56:39 > 1:56:43Korea, they are mad for speed skating, but there has been a rumpus

1:56:43 > 1:56:46about their long track team, because 500,000 people have signed a

1:56:46 > 1:56:48petition demanding that two of the South Korean speed skaters are

1:56:48 > 1:56:53banned from the national team, and the two athletes appeared to blame a

1:56:53 > 1:56:56team-mate after they failed to reach the semifinals which we have just

1:56:56 > 1:57:00seen of the women's team pursuit, and essentially the petition is

1:57:00 > 1:57:04saying, that is unsporting of two of you to blame the other one, because

1:57:04 > 1:57:12they take the time of the third going is harder she can but she

1:57:12 > 1:57:14couldn't keep up, they were saying she isn't good enough.Politics

1:57:14 > 1:57:17within the team, that is incredibly hard. When you go to games, do they

1:57:17 > 1:57:21say to you, do not under any circumstances say anything negative

1:57:21 > 1:57:27about team-mates or the team setup? No, not for us. It is very different

1:57:27 > 1:57:29in hours, we are clearly an individual sport because you are

1:57:29 > 1:57:33there with your sled and you are doing it, but you can't do it

1:57:33 > 1:57:37without the team, the coaching staff, the physio, the doctors, but

1:57:37 > 1:57:42unlike within a bobsleigh when there are physically two or four of you

1:57:42 > 1:57:47working together, but it wouldn't even cross my mind. Tricky politics.

1:57:47 > 1:57:52If everyone is giving it their best, that is ultimately all you can ask

1:57:52 > 1:57:57for, so it is interesting. Obviously the emotions of it, it is their home

1:57:57 > 1:58:02games, and maybe the emotions have all gone over the top.I find it

1:58:02 > 1:58:05hard having never been competitive in a team sport apart from being

1:58:05 > 1:58:11back in school to then know that you are still, your performance matters

1:58:11 > 1:58:16from what everyone else in the team, you want to know everyone else is

1:58:16 > 1:58:21giving 100%, because if you are NN individual sport, it is you and you

1:58:21 > 1:58:25alone giving 100% everyday, and how can you be assured and trust within

1:58:25 > 1:58:29your team that everyone is doing their very best.Obviously with the

1:58:29 > 1:58:34Bob, it is a team, you both have to push and work, and for Misha McNeill

1:58:34 > 1:58:38and Mika Moore, what are they both bring to each other? You know them

1:58:38 > 1:58:46well. You discovered her. What are her talents, and what she need to

1:58:46 > 1:58:52provide?They are both such positive people, they are bubbly and focused,

1:58:52 > 1:58:59very determined, and right from the off when

1:58:59 > 1:59:05off when I met Mica at 14 or 15, what stood out was how it focused

1:59:05 > 1:59:08she was, she was already a world-class competitor, and it was

1:59:08 > 1:59:12about developing that physical and the ability to drive. We talked

1:59:12 > 1:59:15about how they had to fight to get to these Winter Olympics, and when

1:59:15 > 1:59:20to crowdfunding to raise the money to get there. Now they have produced

1:59:20 > 1:59:25two sensational runs. They are in the top six. When you look at this,

1:59:25 > 1:59:34Nicola, what are they doing well already, and where can they improve?

1:59:40 > 1:59:42The start time is not great, we know that, they started 14th and 12th,

1:59:42 > 1:59:45but the velocity is fantastic, because coming straight to the first

1:59:45 > 1:59:47corners, they dropped two places on the second run, three on the first,

1:59:47 > 1:59:50and the start was consistent. The second run was a little bit more

1:59:50 > 1:59:53scrappy, but she was clearly letting the sled run, and you could see all

1:59:53 > 1:59:55three o'clock she was one of the few athletes that just dropped and

1:59:55 > 2:00:02dropped and brought her time right down.

2:00:02 > 2:00:06They are only 0.16 of a second away from a medal but that doesn't take

2:00:06 > 2:00:11into account that the others can improve and on the third run they

2:00:11 > 2:00:16will go fastest first. Is it better to be on the ice first before there

2:00:16 > 2:00:22are marks in it?There are, every sled that goes down cuts up the ice,

2:00:22 > 2:00:27so it slows down. Yesterday, starting 17th was a disadvantage and

2:00:27 > 2:00:33today they will start six, and she is right there, where all the world

2:00:33 > 2:00:37competitive sleds are.How are you driving? You can see the runners on

2:00:37 > 2:00:43the bottom. Are you controlling it with your hands? There are two

2:00:43 > 2:00:49pieces of cable attached to the front axel, so you have about a 90

2:00:49 > 2:00:53degrees range of movement.So you are basically doing this?Yes, it's

2:00:53 > 2:00:59a technical go-kart. Go right, and obviously you are on the corner,

2:00:59 > 2:01:03pulling down and up. You pulled too much and create too much pressure,

2:01:03 > 2:01:07it slips you up at the end of the corner, which causes you to crash.

2:01:07 > 2:01:12If you don't stay enough, you lose pressure and you fall off the wall.

2:01:12 > 2:01:16It's constant adjustment and, to be perfect, you need centimetre perfect

2:01:16 > 2:01:23lines. To get that straight, she had to be within three or four

2:01:23 > 2:01:26centimetres, fantastic.I believe, if she can hold it together, she can

2:01:26 > 2:01:33at least maintain sixth place, if not move up. You only need the

2:01:33 > 2:01:37third, fourth, fifth placed athletes make a tiny mistake, they could drop

2:01:37 > 2:01:42down. Even if Mica made a small mistake, the worst she could come is

2:01:42 > 2:01:46great. I believe she can stay up there, with Kaillie Humphries just

2:01:46 > 2:01:51in front of her, double Olympic champion. Can she moved up or will

2:01:51 > 2:01:54she stay there? We are about 20 minutes from the third run. We will

2:01:54 > 2:01:59find out soon whether they can move up. Let's held over to the Alpensia

2:01:59 > 2:02:08Sliding Centre. Night two of the women's bobsleigh

2:02:08 > 2:02:12runs, three and four happening this evening, and the medals. Let's talk

2:02:12 > 2:02:16about that British Bob, sixth place overnight. Are you worried about

2:02:16 > 2:02:22them? Are you excited about them?I think it's going to be a really good

2:02:22 > 2:02:26night for them. It will be very relaxed, no pressure on their

2:02:26 > 2:02:30shoulders, they are just going out to have fun. As long as they can do

2:02:30 > 2:02:34that and let the people around them make mistakes, it should be a good

2:02:34 > 2:02:39evening.Their start is probably in the top 15, but not the top six, so

2:02:39 > 2:02:46how do they try to make up for that? Don't change anything. They will not

2:02:46 > 2:02:53be to change their start, physically they are where they act.Is it just

2:02:53 > 2:02:56speed?Yes, their physicality and power and speed. Against the top

2:02:56 > 2:03:03nations, that is where they are struggling, but don't change it.And

2:03:03 > 2:03:06Mica's lines from yesterday, go better, do the same? Hazard again,

2:03:06 > 2:03:11don't change anything for the you don't want to try and find speed in

2:03:11 > 2:03:19the track. She needs to exit corner two right, go down the dragons tail

2:03:19 > 2:03:22straight, and I think it will be good for them. We've been studying

2:03:22 > 2:03:30time sheet overnight, 0.16 back on third. Is that realistic or

2:03:30 > 2:03:34something they can't worry about?I think it would take a lots of

2:03:34 > 2:03:38mistakes from other people for them to get the bronze, but they will be

2:03:38 > 2:03:41charging hard for their own medals and, if people make mistakes, they

2:03:41 > 2:03:48are ready to pounce, so why not? What about the race for gold?I

2:03:48 > 2:03:55think that's so not 20 Americans and the Germans. Where they will finish

2:03:55 > 2:03:59off, I'm not sure, but maybe the bronze medal is three, four and

2:03:59 > 2:04:05five, because it's so close. Here we go, run three and four coming up. A

2:04:05 > 2:04:14big evening for British sliding. Well, morning our time, 11:40am.

2:04:14 > 2:04:18Lots of Korean fans to support the sliders, but even more of them are

2:04:18 > 2:04:23in the Gangneung Oval for the speed skating. Because we are going to see

2:04:23 > 2:04:27South Korea in our next semifinal for the men's team pursuit, up

2:04:27 > 2:04:31against New Zealand, fighting for a place in the final. Can they make

2:04:31 > 2:04:35it? The other semifinal will be the Netherlands, featuring Sven Kramer,

2:04:35 > 2:04:41against Norway. Who will win the first of these semifinals? We know

2:04:41 > 2:04:46where the host nation will be screaming and shouting at hoping

2:04:46 > 2:04:53for. Is it possible? It will not be quiet in

2:04:53 > 2:04:54for. Is it possible? It will not be quiet in here for long because we

2:04:54 > 2:04:58are just a minute and a half away from the start of the first

2:04:58 > 2:05:02semifinal, Korea against New Zealand, and the Kiwis are up

2:05:02 > 2:05:07against it. Because of the way it works from the quarters, the fact

2:05:07 > 2:05:12that Korea were the fastest, New Zealand only just made it through

2:05:12 > 2:05:17into the semifinals. They were before fastest time, so in the next

2:05:17 > 2:05:20semifinal, the second fastest time meet the third fastest, and a

2:05:20 > 2:05:26straight knockout system. They have their work cut out.A quick mention

2:05:26 > 2:05:31of New Zealand, the fact that, as a nation, they have only ever won one

2:05:31 > 2:05:38medal at the Winter Olympics, which was in 1992 in the slalom. Can they

2:05:38 > 2:05:45get a second ever medal tonight? New Zealand represented by Shane Dobbin,

2:05:45 > 2:05:49Reyon Kay and Peter Michael. Most of these squads have four skaters, and

2:05:49 > 2:05:53they tend to mix and match between rounds quite often. New Zealand have

2:05:53 > 2:05:58free and that's it. It's these three or nothing. They are happy with that

2:05:58 > 2:06:03though.They were second at last year's World Championships here, so

2:06:03 > 2:06:12they are a force to be recognised. Is this trio from Korea, Min Seok

2:06:12 > 2:06:20Kim, Seung-Hoon Lee and Hyong-Jun Joo. They won the silver medal four

2:06:20 > 2:06:34years ago. That was in Sochi. Eight laps of the track for the men.

2:06:34 > 2:06:42Hyong-Jun Joo is forced to watch this time.

2:06:42 > 2:06:46this time. -- is the forced to watch. Eight laps of the track, and

2:06:46 > 2:06:51a roar goes up. 8000 people packed in here, and for New Zealand its

2:06:51 > 2:06:56Reyon Kay on the front at the moment. He is one of those who won

2:06:56 > 2:06:58the silver medal in the World Championships last year for New

2:06:58 > 2:07:05Zealand. Peter Michael in second place, pushing him slightly. And the

2:07:05 > 2:07:14Kiwis already one tenth of a second round this strong Korean team.

2:07:14 > 2:07:22Winsock even -- Min Seok Kim for Korea. Korea fell on last year's

2:07:22 > 2:07:27World Championships, so they have no real ranking, so they have been put

2:07:27 > 2:07:31into this semifinal with the New Zealand and will really have to wait

2:07:31 > 2:07:38and see what happens in the last two laps.

2:07:38 > 2:07:41laps. Michael is on the front, so Reyon Kay is at the front for New

2:07:41 > 2:07:45Zealand at the moment, and New Zealand are ahead against Korea.

2:07:45 > 2:07:49Shane Dobbin doesn't go to the front at any point, because they have

2:07:49 > 2:07:54worked out that, the fewer changes they make, the less time they lose,

2:07:54 > 2:07:57and I think Shane Dobbin feels he isn't quite strong enough to remain

2:07:57 > 2:08:05strong on that last lap if he's been doing turns on the front.

2:08:05 > 2:08:08doing turns on the front. Seung-Hoon Lee leads the way for Korea, but New

2:08:08 > 2:08:12Zealand have the advantage. This is going to go to the wire.Peter

2:08:12 > 2:08:16Michael on the front for New Zealand. They will be pushing it.

2:08:16 > 2:08:22They have worked specially for this event. The Koreans or eggs short

2:08:22 > 2:08:27track speed skaters, used to skating behind one another. -- the Koreans

2:08:27 > 2:08:35all former short track speed skaters. The Olympic champion in the

2:08:35 > 2:08:4110,000 metres on the front. Again, New Zealand are just edging it. By

2:08:41 > 2:08:46just over a tenth of a second at the moment. Min Seok Kim taking it up

2:08:46 > 2:08:51for Korea. The coach pointing with his finger, showing they are one

2:08:51 > 2:08:55tenth behind. They will not be able to see them directly on the other

2:08:55 > 2:09:01side of this 400 metres track. What a struggle this is going to be.

2:09:01 > 2:09:09Again, just over a tenth of a second. Peter Michael is a class

2:09:09 > 2:09:12act, a World Championship bronze medallist as an individual in the

2:09:12 > 2:09:155000 metres last year, but he's going to have to do a very big turn

2:09:15 > 2:09:23on the front, two tenth of a second, advantage New Zealand. This could be

2:09:23 > 2:09:29a turn-up for the books if the New team make it through to the eighth

2:09:29 > 2:09:34final.A very big two laps to go, and Korea with a lot of work to do.

2:09:34 > 2:09:41It's almost half a second. Lee on the front for Korea. All former

2:09:41 > 2:09:45short trackers, used to accelerating at the last bend. A fuel grows going

2:09:45 > 2:09:49up from the crowd. They are not eating into the New Zealand

2:09:49 > 2:09:57advantage. The teams coming round to take the bell. 400 metres to go. New

2:09:57 > 2:10:00Zealand have the advantage, but only by a quarter of a second. The

2:10:00 > 2:10:05Koreans bringing back that four tenths of a second head start that

2:10:05 > 2:10:09they had an New Zealand. Everybody digging deeper. Sprinting all the

2:10:09 > 2:10:18way to the line. It will be so close. 0.07 of a second. It's a wild

2:10:18 > 2:10:21sprint to the line for the chance to race in the gold-medal race later.

2:10:21 > 2:10:29Over the line, and taken by Korea, 3:38.82. They sprinted for all they

2:10:29 > 2:10:35are worth in that last 400 metres, and they pulled it out of the bag at

2:10:35 > 2:10:39the last moment. New Zealand had led all the way through, but they didn't

2:10:39 > 2:10:46quite happy in the final metres. It's all about the third skater,

2:10:46 > 2:10:50when the third skater crosses the line, that's when the time stops,

2:10:50 > 2:10:55and you saw quite clearly the New Zealanders were really struggling on

2:10:55 > 2:10:59the back, and they're disappointed faces tell the whole story.

2:10:59 > 2:11:02Effectively with New Zealand you've got two skaters pulling the cart all

2:11:02 > 2:11:08the way round throughout the entire distance, and what a great job they

2:11:08 > 2:11:16did, but just not quite enough to guarantee themselves gold or silver.

2:11:16 > 2:11:23But the track record has gone, I think. It has, smashed. That was the

2:11:23 > 2:11:27world record winning time from last year, when the Dutch won this event.

2:11:27 > 2:11:31Maybe we could have another turn up for the books when the Dutch, going

2:11:31 > 2:11:35into the red-hot favourites, their track record has just been smashed

2:11:35 > 2:11:41by two seconds.Nobody will be going home from here today, because the

2:11:41 > 2:11:45home crowd will be waiting to see their team in the men's team pursuit

2:11:45 > 2:11:49final, making up somewhat for the disappointment for the Korean fans

2:11:49 > 2:11:54in the women's team, a terrible result in the quarterfinals, racing

2:11:54 > 2:11:59for seventh place now. Let's move on to the second semifinal, Norway

2:11:59 > 2:12:05against the Netherlands. Norway represented by Haavard Boekko, Simen

2:12:05 > 2:12:10Nilsen and their role and Pedersen. Pedersen won bronze last week in the

2:12:10 > 2:12:165000 beaters. World bronze medallist last year. And now the Netherlands,

2:12:16 > 2:12:21with Patrick Roest brought in for this semifinal, Sven Kramer and Jan

2:12:21 > 2:12:27Blokhuijsen completing the team. Sven Kramer nine times world

2:12:27 > 2:12:34all-round champion, 19 times single distance world champion. Eight

2:12:34 > 2:12:40Olympic medals to his name. Is he going to add to that total tonight?

2:12:40 > 2:12:46The odds would say yes. Sven Kramer has a yellow band round his forearm.

2:12:46 > 2:12:55The Norwegians in their qualifying heat only 100th of a second slower

2:12:55 > 2:13:01than the Dutch, so this will be a nail-biting semifinal.Tremendous.

2:13:01 > 2:13:06Just 0.34 of a second between them. Sven Kramer, who we saw winning one

2:13:06 > 2:13:11of the single distance events at the Olympics in majestic style, nearly

2:13:11 > 2:13:16half a second, the advantage, was well beaten in another race on a day

2:13:16 > 2:13:20where he said he just didn't have it. We thought he'd turn up and win,

2:13:20 > 2:13:24and many thought that's all he would have to do, and he ended up in

2:13:24 > 2:13:29fixed. On the front, Pedersen, who has been their strongest athlete so

2:13:29 > 2:13:35far. Haavard Boekko, world champion in the 1800 metres, taking up the

2:13:35 > 2:13:42running for Norway. The Norwegians almost six tenths of a second faster

2:13:42 > 2:13:45than the Dutch at the moment, with Jan Blokhuijsen at the front of the

2:13:45 > 2:13:55Dutch trio.Patrick Roest, the Dutch silver medallist in the 1500 metres.

2:13:55 > 2:13:59He struggled a bit in the quarterfinals, not quite on top

2:13:59 > 2:14:03form. The Dutch, as you can see, have ground to make up. It's almost

2:14:03 > 2:14:08three quarters of a second. They are still losing ground of course. And

2:14:08 > 2:14:13Nelson of Norway on the front for this Norwegian team. -- Simen

2:14:13 > 2:14:19Nilsen. Norway are an incredible form at the moment, having won the

2:14:19 > 2:14:23500 metres gold, and the Dutch are struggling, as Sven Kramer moves

2:14:23 > 2:14:27back onto the front. The Dutch have won nine of the ten world titles

2:14:27 > 2:14:32that have been awarded in this discipline, the Olympic champions

2:14:32 > 2:14:37from 2014 but, with four laps to go, their place in the final is far from

2:14:37 > 2:14:42assured. Half a second to make up, and presumably best time to do that.

2:14:42 > 2:14:48I think so. Sven Kramer will be turning on the speed. He is bringing

2:14:48 > 2:14:51it back again, 15 hundredths of a second, with just over three laps to

2:14:51 > 2:14:56go. Presumably the Dutch will be raised to a schedule more than

2:14:56 > 2:15:01against Norway per se until the closing stages. Almost six

2:15:01 > 2:15:06hundredths the second slower than the Norwegians now, but it will be

2:15:06 > 2:15:10interesting to see whether Sven Kramer will do the last three laps

2:15:10 > 2:15:15on his own.Pedersen on the front for Norway. I think he's the one

2:15:15 > 2:15:20they will be looking to in the closing stages of this one. He is

2:15:20 > 2:15:25the one who really has the form at these championships. Still nearly

2:15:25 > 2:15:31half a second between them, with two laps to go. 800 metres remaining.

2:15:31 > 2:15:36Jan Blokhuijsen, one of those who won a gold in Sochi four years ago,

2:15:36 > 2:15:41going to the front. You can see the effort. It's starting to hurt was

2:15:41 > 2:15:47there was almost a full for Patrick Roest. The judge really struggling.

2:15:47 > 2:15:51-- the Dutch. I'm not sure this is the right setup, Sven Kramer should

2:15:51 > 2:15:56be on the front of these three, and it could be that the Dutch go out.

2:15:56 > 2:16:00They will have to come up with an astonishing sprint over the final

2:16:00 > 2:16:04half a lap, because we could be about to see an upset, with Norway

2:16:04 > 2:16:08leading the way, and Pedersen on the front, and the gap over a second.

2:16:08 > 2:16:13More than halfway around the final lap, Norway are going to upset the

2:16:13 > 2:16:16apple cart in this semifinal, unless the Dutch find something from but

2:16:16 > 2:16:22they haven't! Norway have unofficially set a new Olympic

2:16:22 > 2:16:30record of 3:37.0 eight. A superb escape from them. The Dutch, renewal

2:16:30 > 2:16:35world champions, defending Olympic champions, toppled in the semifinal,

2:16:35 > 2:16:39and further disappointment at these Olympic Games for the great Sven

2:16:39 > 2:16:44Kramer, on the right-hand side of your picture. He and his team-mates

2:16:44 > 2:16:50will not be racing for gold today.

2:16:56 > 2:17:01Clearly the Norwegians have skated out of their skates.Absolutely,

2:17:01 > 2:17:05Norway, world bronze medallist last year, they won the Silver Medal two

2:17:05 > 2:17:10years ago, so they are a very strong outfit. But there you can see that

2:17:10 > 2:17:13typifieded the way everything wept for the Dutch there. They never

2:17:13 > 2:17:17really looked comfortable and they never were able to assert any

2:17:17 > 2:17:21authority on the race, but Pedersen, in particular there, was a great

2:17:21 > 2:17:26Captain on the ice in many ways for Norway. He certainly through

2:17:26 > 2:17:32gauntlet down the Dutch. They looked so, in that train, the line, making

2:17:32 > 2:17:37sure they are close enough to one another, that they get the maximum

2:17:37 > 2:17:42slipstream they are looking for. The raise of the arms says it all. ? How

2:17:42 > 2:17:46surprised are you by what we have seen? It was very very close, they

2:17:46 > 2:17:50have skated three tenths of a second faster than the time of the Korean,

2:17:50 > 2:17:56and I would say they have still a bit left in the tank.Well, we will

2:17:56 > 2:18:02see fascinating finals then in the men's team pursuit but Norway

2:18:02 > 2:18:06winning the second semifinal, and Norway will race against Korea for

2:18:06 > 2:18:10the gold medal later on, and the Netherlands will race against New

2:18:10 > 2:18:16Zealand, but there you can see the disappointment on the face of Kramer

2:18:16 > 2:18:22who could still add to his total of eight Olympic medals but it won't be

2:18:22 > 2:18:27another gold or a silver. They will be rub surfacing the ice again and

2:18:27 > 2:18:32we will be back later on. -- resurfacing.

2:18:32 > 2:18:36Raise thraiz is a major shock, the Dutch will not be in the gold medal

2:18:36 > 2:18:42race, they will not be in the final, the A final as it were of that speed

2:18:42 > 2:18:46skating, so Korea will face Norway in the men, the Dutch are in the

2:18:46 > 2:18:48women's final. Thaw will be up against Japan. That is the medal

2:18:48 > 2:18:54table. Already the morning or early hours this morning for Italy the

2:18:54 > 2:19:01first Tam I don't know woman to win the Olympic down hill. Lindsey Vonn

2:19:01 > 2:19:08took bronze. And Marit Bjoergen won her 14th medal helping Norway to

2:19:08 > 2:19:15take bronze in the Koss country team, the Norwegians reached that 12

2:19:15 > 2:19:21gold medals, by winning the, the men's race in the cross-country. We

2:19:21 > 2:19:27are now focussing on bobsleigh, look at the shots of the Alpensia sliding

2:19:27 > 2:19:34centre, lit up against the hillside. Prepareling for their third run are

2:19:34 > 2:19:38the British bob duo of Mica and Mica. This is how they have been

2:19:38 > 2:19:51getting on so far. This is is a good run. Eyes maybe on

2:19:51 > 2:19:58seventh place. Sixth she goes.Katie Humphries is here and means

2:19:58 > 2:20:06business.New track record.Pretty good start but I think she should be

2:20:06 > 2:20:12quicker than that down the track. She is starting to move away,

2:20:12 > 2:20:18hundredth by hundredth. She has had a storming run.Number three in the

2:20:18 > 2:20:26world. Jamaica. Jamaica is in this race for

2:20:26 > 2:20:36gold without a shadow of a doubt. -- Jamanka.It has gone green. Can

2:20:36 > 2:20:43they put pressure on Kaillie Humphries? Kaillie Humphries with

2:20:43 > 2:20:49work to do, if she is to hold on to the gold medal for the third time.

2:20:49 > 2:20:53She is losing speed to the British sled. There is real doubts now that

2:20:53 > 2:20:58Kaillie Humphries can get herself another gold medal.

2:20:58 > 2:21:04The first person to flinch is going to lose out on a medal. Jamanka

2:21:04 > 2:21:12finishing well for Germany. Puts herself in that great position. They

2:21:12 > 2:21:17had a 200th advantage. Taylor goes off in pursuit of the one prize that

2:21:17 > 2:21:22has eluded her. An Olympic gold medal.She has lost a bit.She has

2:21:22 > 2:21:29lost the lead. She is seven hundredths behind. Jamanka will lead

2:21:29 > 2:21:35at the end of day one but kneel is less than two tenths off the bronze

2:21:35 > 2:21:38medal. They look so happy. They are up for this

2:21:38 > 2:21:39medal. They look so happy. They are up for this enjoying their

2:21:39 > 2:21:44experience. You can see there, how tight it is at the top, Germany

2:21:44 > 2:21:51taking over from the USA, so Germany go into the third run in the lead.

2:21:51 > 2:21:55Jamanka will go down first. In sixth place Mica McNeill. It there is not

2:21:55 > 2:22:02much in it. What can you read into their body language. Mica, what are

2:22:02 > 2:22:07they thinking now, and House of Representatives beat will they be?

2:22:07 > 2:22:12You can see from the smiles they are loving it. Now they will focus, just

2:22:12 > 2:22:18prepare, they look relaxed which is perfect. Wasn't her to focus on the

2:22:18 > 2:22:22process. The result, they cannot control the result. As they can

2:22:22 > 2:22:35control is what they do.Kaillie Humphries, history maker already.

2:22:38 > 2:22:43Cam ka haven't had the greatest time.They were disappointed. I

2:22:43 > 2:22:49spoke to them and Jaz says she wants to show they can be competitive and

2:22:49 > 2:22:57the result, take care of itself, it more about what it means. The sleds

2:22:57 > 2:23:01have in park ferme, all they can focus on is warm up, like they do

2:23:01 > 2:23:06every other competition and go back to the changing room, keep warm,

2:23:06 > 2:23:09stay ready and wait your turn, you know what time you are out on the

2:23:09 > 2:23:14track to give that push after your life, push in the bobsleighs and

2:23:14 > 2:23:22sprinting as fast as you can.Does it change your attitude or

2:23:22 > 2:23:25preparation, we see Humphries giving a wave to us, to start thinking hang

2:23:25 > 2:23:30on we could win a medal. Must they not think that? They have to focus

2:23:30 > 2:23:34on process, the point they get carried away with the result, then

2:23:34 > 2:23:37the focus go, the reason they were great yesterday, there was no

2:23:37 > 2:23:42pressure on them and they just did the job they need to do. Same track,

2:23:42 > 2:23:51same sled, same ice, just drive it, push and drive it.Love that.

2:23:53 > 2:23:58push and drive it.Love that. Let us head over and join John Jackson and

2:23:58 > 2:23:58John Hunt.

2:23:58 > 2:24:01head over and join John Jackson and John Hunt. Track side here and this

2:24:01 > 2:24:05is a big 15 minutes coming up. Fascinate, relative to the men's

2:24:05 > 2:24:10event, where in run one they were quick, run two they were slower, run

2:24:10 > 2:24:16three was the quickest run of the competition, so I think as Jamanka

2:24:16 > 2:24:21tries to psyche herself up in the lead at the moment, we need to see

2:24:21 > 2:24:24some sparkling hot times. Fascinating stage of the

2:24:24 > 2:24:31competition. John Jackson, the ice temperature still chilly?Yes, it is

2:24:31 > 2:24:36minus 11, which is five degrees colder than yesterday, so this could

2:24:36 > 2:24:40have an effect on people's equipment and how it run, signs the small

2:24:40 > 2:24:51window they work in.Jamanka. Wondering whether or not the quirk

2:24:51 > 2:24:56push in behind the brake. We will see the 5.38. That is their slowest

2:24:56 > 2:25:03start so far. They start this vital third round a 7 hundredth gap

2:25:03 > 2:25:07between themselves and Meyers Taylor. For the top five or six

2:25:07 > 2:25:10sleds, they need to put the run down that is going to keep them in the

2:25:10 > 2:25:14medal hunt. If they don't do that they can't win the medals on this

2:25:14 > 2:25:19run but they can throw them away. This is looking like a clean run so

2:25:19 > 2:25:23far which you would expect from the German pilot. Nice down the strait.

2:25:23 > 2:25:29Comes in there, she will hold the speed. This will put pressure on

2:25:29 > 2:25:35Elena to put a big run in, which I think she will.Do we get a sub 5.50

2:25:35 > 2:25:40from Jamanka? It would be a statement if she can achieve it.

2:25:40 > 2:25:47Round she come, she is under 5.50. A track record. Jamanka, possibly one

2:25:47 > 2:25:51more runway from achieving her dream, that is really good start.

2:25:51 > 2:25:57Can anybody go quicker than that? That? That sets the standard for

2:25:57 > 2:26:02Meyers Taylor. There was a good run. No faults other than coming into

2:26:02 > 2:26:09corner 12, just a bit down the left side which meant he would have do a

2:26:09 > 2:26:13bit of work. Just here, she could have done a bit more middle into the

2:26:13 > 2:26:17corner you can see how animated the coaches are. They know how big a run

2:26:17 > 2:26:22that was. We are about the see how big it is, now that she has set the

2:26:22 > 2:26:28pace.Run. No faults other than coming into corner 12, just a bit

2:26:28 > 2:26:30down the left side which meant he would have do a bit of work. Just

2:26:30 > 2:26:33here, she could have done a bit more middle into the corner you can see

2:26:33 > 2:26:36how animated the coaches are. They know how big a run that was. We are

2:26:36 > 2:26:39about the see how big it is, now that she has set the pace. A quote

2:26:39 > 2:26:42from Meyers Taylor "I have come too far, we have come too far, too much

2:26:42 > 2:26:45stuff has happened to rest on our laurels and try and hold our

2:26:45 > 2:26:48position. No, we are going to go and attack." Thomas Bach watches on from

2:26:48 > 2:26:50the IOC. Meyers Taylor has just seen Jamanka go quick. Meyers Taylor had

2:26:50 > 2:26:58held the track record just before. Jamanka has taken it. So she set out

2:26:58 > 2:27:03her intentions, she has never won Olympic Gold, this to keep her in

2:27:03 > 2:27:09the hunt, together with Jamanka and maybe you never know one or two oh

2:27:09 > 2:27:15here she go, she is usually very quick. With Gibbs in the brake. Her

2:27:15 > 2:27:19start so far, she has done it again. I spoke to her after the race and

2:27:19 > 2:27:22she knew what he did wrong at this point. Has she got it right? She

2:27:22 > 2:27:26just got away with that, so this is going to be the run now, it is green

2:27:26 > 2:27:30at moment but that is relative to the start. She has made another

2:27:30 > 2:27:35mistake, similar to yesterday. Are those two mistakes going to be what

2:27:35 > 2:27:40loses her time at this point you can see it is starting to close down a

2:27:40 > 2:27:45little bit, just hundredth by hundredth. Can she get through

2:27:45 > 2:27:49straight? I think gem car has done enough to stay in front of the

2:27:49 > 2:27:54American sled at this time. It will be down to the hundredth again. This

2:27:54 > 2:28:01could easily be as close as the men's race. Meyers Taylor, two early

2:28:01 > 2:28:07mistake, she drops second but she is still in the mix for gold. She is

2:28:07 > 2:28:11only 4 hundredth off for Jamanka. She has closed the gap from one two

2:28:11 > 2:28:16to run three. This is lining up for another corking finish, like we have

2:28:16 > 2:28:20seen in every race so far, the medals have changed round so much as

2:28:20 > 2:28:23the last four or FIA have come down, again, a couple of mistakes at the

2:28:23 > 2:28:31top. Minor mistakes but those are the differences between coming down

2:28:31 > 2:28:364s in fronts and four hundredths behind. It has probably cost her a

2:28:36 > 2:28:41tenth at least, this mistake. It leads us into a good final run.

2:28:41 > 2:28:45And there will be others hoping they can get close to Jamanka and Meyers

2:28:45 > 2:28:52Taylor as well. Elana pleased with her early evening

2:28:52 > 2:28:57work here.

2:28:58 > 2:29:03work here. German wars next for Schneider. Worth reminding you of

2:29:03 > 2:29:07the races that took place Schneider won three of them.

2:29:07 > 2:29:12Beating Meyers

2:29:12 > 2:29:17Beating Meyers Taylor and Kaillie Humphries.

2:29:17 > 2:29:22She was tenth in Sochi, she will improve on that but by how much?

2:29:22 > 2:29:29Schneider on her way now, with Drazek. 5.38 is their time. The

2:29:29 > 2:29:32slowest start for them so farI thought they would be quicker off

2:29:32 > 2:29:36the mark. I think they are carrying a couple of injuries they are having

2:29:36 > 2:29:43to manage with. She really does now need to put a good run in because

2:29:43 > 2:29:46the three, four sleds behind her are all tightly packed in. Maybe that

2:29:46 > 2:29:51mistake won't help her out. She is ine %ed compared to anybody else.

2:29:51 > 2:29:55This is the run that maybe cost her that bronze medal spot at moment.

2:29:55 > 2:29:59Can she say in the mix with Kaillie Humphries and the sledge coming up

2:29:59 > 2:30:04behind her?

2:30:04 > 2:30:12Losing time, good news for Jamie Greubel Poser and Humphreys to come.

2:30:12 > 2:30:17Stephanie Schneider not having a good run, and she is now half a

2:30:17 > 2:30:20second behind the first placed Jamanka. A costly third run for

2:30:20 > 2:30:28Schneider, the 27-year-old from Germany.Her inexperience showed a

2:30:28 > 2:30:33bit, and her starts on what they should be, but those little mistakes

2:30:33 > 2:30:40will cost her a medal. You can't show that inconsistency. But that's

2:30:40 > 2:30:45good for the likes of Jamie Greubel Poser, Kaillie Humphries and even

2:30:45 > 2:30:50Mica McNeill, coming up. Any one of these sleds makes a mistake, the

2:30:50 > 2:30:56British could move up into fifth or even fourth. That's a good point,

2:30:56 > 2:30:59Schneider has put the door open for three athletes to go past her.

2:30:59 > 2:31:06They've still got to do it though. An absorbing run and under free.It

2:31:06 > 2:31:11might be the case that the ice is so cold it doesn't suit her equipment.

2:31:11 > 2:31:17Next for America, Jamie Greubel Poser. She saw her husband,

2:31:17 > 2:31:23Christian, missing out in the men's event, having led. Bronze medallist

2:31:23 > 2:31:28in Sochi, she'd love to do this for her sister, Elizabeth, who was

2:31:28 > 2:31:33Korean and was adopted, aged just five months. Her sister is here, all

2:31:33 > 2:31:38the family here to see if Jamie can improve on what she did in Sochi.

2:31:38 > 2:31:47She is now 34. Jamie Greubel Poser, not usually as quick as Elana Meyers

2:31:47 > 2:31:50Taylor and Lauren Gibbs, but certainly a bit quicker than the

2:31:50 > 2:31:54Germans we've seen so far. Jamie Greubel Poser on her way. She has

2:31:54 > 2:32:01got 5.30 one.A little mistake. I'm not sure if they were just out

2:32:01 > 2:32:08slightly. But a decent start, a faster start. This could be the run

2:32:08 > 2:32:12that Jamie puts in which really pulled her back towards the front.

2:32:12 > 2:32:16She is probably a slightly better toilet technically than Elana Meyers

2:32:16 > 2:32:24Taylor. But it's whether she's got the speed in the sled. Can she pull

2:32:24 > 2:32:29up to the leaders at this minute? She needs to keep in front of

2:32:29 > 2:32:36Kaillie Humphries.Elana Meyers Taylor just for hundreds back rows

2:32:36 > 2:32:42behind. Jamie Greubel Poser goes third, but four tenths off the lead

2:32:42 > 2:32:52at the moment, Jamanka. That is on the teams that have gone so far, a

2:32:52 > 2:32:56big gap developing. A bigger gap between silver and bronze. Bronze is

2:32:56 > 2:33:03where Jamie Greubel Poser sits at the moment.Looking at the results

2:33:03 > 2:33:05yesterday, dropping off another tense is about right between the two

2:33:05 > 2:33:11sleds. It's between the two sleds at the front for gold and silver and

2:33:11 > 2:33:17it's now down to these ones to fight it out for bronze. Not many

2:33:17 > 2:33:26mistakes, almost perfect, just not quite working for her.Age Evans,

2:33:26 > 2:33:33acknowledging the crowd.

2:33:33 > 2:33:35acknowledging the crowd. Next up, huge Canadian support for a legend

2:33:35 > 2:33:41of the game, Kaillie Humphries, together with her break, Phylicia

2:33:41 > 2:33:47George, a top-class athlete herself. Twice a gold medallist, the door

2:33:47 > 2:33:51very definitely open for her now to slip into bronze if not better.

2:33:51 > 2:33:57There will be nobody more determined than her as she starts her run for

2:33:57 > 2:34:07Canada. Very quick as usually, Saab 5.30.They definitely need to go

2:34:07 > 2:34:16below 5.30. This is the one that's going to keep Kaillie in the medals.

2:34:16 > 2:34:19If she makes any mistakes, I think her medal chances have gone, but you

2:34:19 > 2:34:24can never tell what will happen on the fourth run. She is the most

2:34:24 > 2:34:29experienced pilot in the field. It's whether she can use that experience

2:34:29 > 2:34:32and use everything she knows to make it down as quickly as possible, and

2:34:32 > 2:34:36she's doing well so far. This is what you expect from a double

2:34:36 > 2:34:45Olympic champion.Time ebbing away hundredth by hundredth. Got to keep

2:34:45 > 2:34:49it as close to two tenths as possible. She is now nearly four

2:34:49 > 2:34:57tenths behind Jamanka. Kaillie Humphries takes third, just ahead of

2:34:57 > 2:34:59Jamie Greubel Poser and Schneider, with the British girls to come.

2:34:59 > 2:35:07Definitely an opportunity here for Mica McNeill and Mica Moore to make

2:35:07 > 2:35:13some progress. It's getting very exciting.This was a textbook run

2:35:13 > 2:35:13from Kaillie

2:35:13 > 2:35:16exciting.This was a textbook run from Kaillie, nothing wrong with it.

2:35:16 > 2:35:20A line here and there that might have been a fraction long, but that

2:35:20 > 2:35:25could be down to the way her equipment works. It was almost

2:35:25 > 2:35:29perfect. Comes out of here and absolutely nails this straight,

2:35:29 > 2:35:34which is what you need to carry speed into the bottom of the track.

2:35:34 > 2:35:38Her equipment doesn't quite seem to have the out and out speed of the

2:35:38 > 2:35:43leaders.Kaillie Humphries are still looking positive. But the gold medal

2:35:43 > 2:35:51might be slipping away. The Canadians waiting in the slipstream.

2:35:51 > 2:35:58This, the British pair. Mica McNeill, Mica Moore, the brake.

2:35:58 > 2:36:05Thank you, the watching public, for getting them here, funding slashed

2:36:05 > 2:36:07completely, they went crowdfunding and raised thousands, which brought

2:36:07 > 2:36:14them here. Now we are expecting a moderate start, but they have been

2:36:14 > 2:36:18one of the best teams on the bottom end of the track in the entire

2:36:18 > 2:36:21competition. Don't expect fireworks early, but let's hope for a clean

2:36:21 > 2:36:30run to keep them in it. 5.54 is about what you'd expect. This is

2:36:30 > 2:36:34where Mica will start doing her work. As long as she gets here

2:36:34 > 2:36:39clean, as she has. If she had the same start as Elana Meyers Taylor or

2:36:39 > 2:36:42even the Germans, another tense closer, she would be leading at the

2:36:42 > 2:36:46moment. This is what the British team lack, the out and out start,

2:36:46 > 2:36:51but she has been one of the best drivers. She just needs to get this

2:36:51 > 2:36:56right. A little mistake. She didn't make that over the last couple of

2:36:56 > 2:37:01days. She needs to control this and get back on. She's going to lose a

2:37:01 > 2:37:05bit of pace, which could drop her down a bit. The sled behind her are

2:37:05 > 2:37:11only hundredths.Slightly ragged for the great British team, and they're

2:37:11 > 2:37:16going to finish over a second behind. They were less than half a

2:37:16 > 2:37:20second behind. And that isn't good news for Great Britain. Mica

2:37:20 > 2:37:31STUDIO: -- Mica and Mica may lose their sixth place by two or three

2:37:31 > 2:37:35places.Just a bit of inexperience on the track. She didn't do the

2:37:35 > 2:37:38training last year or at the beginning of the year because the

2:37:38 > 2:37:42British didn't come here, and this is potentially costing them now.

2:37:42 > 2:37:49This is her 11th run on the track. Everybody else has had at least 40,

2:37:49 > 2:37:5340 five. She just made a little mistake, but that is so costly. She

2:37:53 > 2:38:02is turning hard, she goes above the line, has

2:38:02 > 2:38:04line, has to work hard again, she has three lots of pressure in that

2:38:04 > 2:38:07corner, and you can see how high she is, she is lucky she didn't crash.

2:38:07 > 2:38:13Subdued scenes, perhaps. Elana Meyers Taylor watching on from the

2:38:13 > 2:38:20sidelines. Here now

2:38:20 > 2:38:22sidelines. Here now for Canada, Alysia whistling, together with the

2:38:22 > 2:38:30ghastly experienced Heather Moyse, who is brake. -- Alysia whistling,

2:38:30 > 2:38:36together with the fastly experienced Heather Moyse. A golden chance for

2:38:36 > 2:38:41them to move up the order. They should definitely take sixth place

2:38:41 > 2:38:53from the British. 5.42, their usual, fairly average start.Alysia was

2:38:53 > 2:38:57third in the test event this year, so she has a good feeling for this

2:38:57 > 2:39:01track, she just haven't found it yet. If she could put a rundown

2:39:01 > 2:39:05here, there is no reason she couldn't pull herself up into faith

2:39:05 > 2:39:09or even start putting some pressure on to fourth place. She just needs

2:39:09 > 2:39:14to be good through this point. Not quite, and maybe that will cost her.

2:39:14 > 2:39:19Still a bit back as she gets to the bottom of the track. A little nudge

2:39:19 > 2:39:28will not help us beat. Relatively tidy.Should take McNeil's place in

2:39:28 > 2:39:34fix. Smooth round the last bend. Now eight tenths behind Jamanka, but

2:39:34 > 2:39:39comfortably ahead of McNeil. We knew that run from the British team would

2:39:39 > 2:39:46be costly, and there are, maybe even now, three or four more who could

2:39:46 > 2:39:51jump ahead of Mica McNeill. It was really tight. Four hundredths...

2:39:51 > 2:40:00Three macro tenths behind her, she could drop into around tenths. This

2:40:00 > 2:40:07was a great drive from here, maybe just released a bit too soon on two,

2:40:07 > 2:40:12just that little nudge, not an ideal line, but it seems to be the line

2:40:12 > 2:40:18most people accept if they can't get straight through.Canadian cheering

2:40:18 > 2:40:25now for Christine De Bruin and Melissa Lotholz, number ten in the

2:40:25 > 2:40:35world, Christine. And here she start dates, after run number two. -- she

2:40:35 > 2:40:40starts eight. She into the games, qualification seemed to have slipped

2:40:40 > 2:40:45through her fingers, but the Americans performed badly and the

2:40:45 > 2:40:51Olympics back to Christine De Bruin. There don't seem to be as many

2:40:51 > 2:40:56mistakes at the top of the track from these top pilots, which is

2:40:56 > 2:40:59good, keeping everybody in the fight. She has said some consistent

2:40:59 > 2:41:04runs but just not quite had the speed, and that could be down to her

2:41:04 > 2:41:09experience, because she is one of the younger pilots in terms of time,

2:41:09 > 2:41:13but that's a great line, probably one of the best we've seen. Will it

2:41:13 > 2:41:17be enough to carry the speed down? Just overdriven there, so it may

2:41:17 > 2:41:25cost a bit come in through the speed track. -- trap.Quite a lot of the

2:41:25 > 2:41:28times are dropping off noticeably, and she is eight tenths of a second

2:41:28 > 2:41:33behind. That puts head of the British, who dropped back to eighth

2:41:33 > 2:41:40place. Christine De Bruin just a fraction behind the other Canadian,

2:41:40 > 2:41:48who remains six.Just starting to compress a bit in certain places, so

2:41:48 > 2:41:53it's all down to the hundredths. It will be a good finish as we come

2:41:53 > 2:41:57into the last run. A great camera angle, the athletes loading into the

2:41:57 > 2:42:03sled. Not much wrong with it, just this little tap down the bottom into

2:42:03 > 2:42:0713. It shouldn't have cost her a lot of time, may have overdriven 12 a

2:42:07 > 2:42:15bit.See how far Jamanka and Elana Meyers Taylor are clear off the

2:42:15 > 2:42:19field, a gap of over three tenths of a second back to the bronze. That

2:42:19 > 2:42:25doesn't sound like much, but it's a yawning gap in bobsleigh terms.

2:42:25 > 2:42:32Elana Meyers Taylor, is she just an hour or two away from winning a gold

2:42:32 > 2:42:42medal? Here now for Switzerland is Sabina Hafner. Number nine in the

2:42:42 > 2:42:48world, World Cup finish this year, six at St Moritz. She has been at

2:42:48 > 2:42:53this sport for a long, long time, 13 years ago she was fourth in the

2:42:53 > 2:43:00World Championships. She got a 5.54 time, and that looks fairly

2:43:00 > 2:43:05pedestrian, but it's what she usually delivers.Yes, and that is

2:43:05 > 2:43:08just where their programme is at the moment. Similar to be British, they

2:43:08 > 2:43:13just lack a bit of speed at the top. She's been driving really well, is a

2:43:13 > 2:43:19good, consistent pilot, just runs a bit high on the end of seven, but it

2:43:19 > 2:43:26pushes her into eight. Is this crucial? Centimetres away from a

2:43:26 > 2:43:28perfect line, but that's the difference between getting it right

2:43:28 > 2:43:33and wrong. Good speed, but not enough, just dropping off a bit with

2:43:33 > 2:43:38every corner. She isn't going to take eighth place with this run.

2:43:38 > 2:43:48Crossing the line, going ninth. So Mica McNeill and Mica Moore stay in

2:43:48 > 2:43:50eighth place, despite the disappointment of that third run

2:43:50 > 2:43:56from them. Even eighth, if they could hang onto that, that would be

2:43:56 > 2:44:01a tremendous result for them.It certainly would, still the best ever

2:44:01 > 2:44:04British finish for a woman in Olympic Games. So still a lots of

2:44:04 > 2:44:08positives to be taken, when you think about in September, they

2:44:08 > 2:44:14weren't given coming. But the Swiss, again, little mistakes down the

2:44:14 > 2:44:19straight, but no different to anybody else. You can see the

2:44:19 > 2:44:22difference between the leading German sled and the Swiss sled.

2:44:22 > 2:44:26Almost the same lines, not much between them, but you can see how

2:44:26 > 2:44:35the German sled was pulling away. A big way in the Olympic corner.

2:44:38 > 2:44:49Tenth to go from Austria will be Hengster, she was is ath in Sochi.

2:44:49 > 2:44:54Kleiser her brake. Lots of experience, been to the worlds eight

2:44:54 > 2:45:01time, best finish was last year, when fifth. I think she has a very

2:45:01 > 2:45:07big job on here to jump ahead of the British pair, John, she starts off a

2:45:07 > 2:45:13long way behind them. She would have to go a good deal quicker thank my

2:45:13 > 2:45:19ka and Mica did.If she was on top of her game, she would have been

2:45:19 > 2:45:30possibly able to, but at moment she is just sort of, her skill set is on

2:45:30 > 2:45:35the downward bra jec tri, but she has not been the pilot she was for

2:45:35 > 2:45:39the last couple of years, so this could be one of those hit and miss

2:45:39 > 2:45:43run, it could be good. She has come in a bit late there, I don't think

2:45:43 > 2:45:50this is the slide they need to move forwards towards Misha McNeill,

2:45:50 > 2:45:57which is good for us.They are not going to take any step forward.

2:45:57 > 2:46:02Hengster starts in tenth and that is where she stays. No impression at

2:46:02 > 2:46:08all on Mica McNeill and Mica Moore who stay in eighth place. As these

2:46:08 > 2:46:15athletes go one by one, it gets more and more unlikely that McNeill and

2:46:15 > 2:46:21Moore will lose that eighth place. Bits and pieces all over that run,

2:46:21 > 2:46:27just, made it a bit untidy and maybe their equipment isn't running as

2:46:27 > 2:46:33good as some of the other, but no real massive mistake, eperfect, but

2:46:33 > 2:46:36it could have been done with more no the left-hand side of the screen, as

2:46:36 > 2:46:41you look at it but you have to drive more as you go into 12 to control

2:46:41 > 2:46:55that. Scrubs speed off. Hengster strides away. Jamanka

2:46:55 > 2:46:59tenderly, lovingly looks after that stretch of metal that might carry

2:46:59 > 2:47:07her to gold in an hour or two's time.

2:47:09 > 2:47:14time. For Belgian next, Willemsen, what a contrast in Sochi to

2:47:14 > 2:47:23Vancouver, really clean in the World Cup here. Last March, her start time

2:47:23 > 2:47:28has been her anchor for much of her competitions over the last two

2:47:28 > 2:47:33years, if she gets under 5.6 she will be doing pretty well. She is

2:47:33 > 2:47:40just under it.That is a good start from them, but, again, not enough.

2:47:40 > 2:47:44They have had the best equipment, that is whee they have had good

2:47:44 > 2:47:49speed. The problem is everybody else has that same equipment. They have

2:47:49 > 2:47:53to advantage, so the lack of start and her driving is not enough to

2:47:53 > 2:47:58pull her up to the fronts like it used to be. Another clean run. She

2:47:58 > 2:48:03is one of the most experience pilots in the field. You can see that, but

2:48:03 > 2:48:08the sled doesn't have the speed it used to another little tap. Won't

2:48:08 > 2:48:14cost too much.

2:48:14 > 2:48:18cost too much.So much experience, she is 3. She is world ranked number

2:48:18 > 2:48:2811 and she is in 11th place. Exactly where she was after number two.

2:48:28 > 2:48:34Somebody letting out an almighty roar! She is well-known for her loud

2:48:34 > 2:48:40voice at the top of the track to gee on the German, that was a tidy run,

2:48:40 > 2:48:44a mistakes going into 13, but nothing more than most other people.

2:48:44 > 2:48:49It is this part that is, hinders them so much they haven't got the

2:48:49 > 2:49:01horsepower at top of the track to get the sled out to a fast time.

2:49:01 > 2:49:04This was that mistake, that caused her to come off this corner and have

2:49:04 > 2:49:15another slide here. You see the sled pointing slightly the wrong way.

2:49:16 > 2:49:19What is going through their minds? There is a gold medal to be won

2:49:19 > 2:49:28shortly. Will it be Germany or America?

2:49:28 > 2:49:32America? Next for Germany Anna Koehler, 12th place, world ranged

2:49:32 > 2:49:36number seven, four top ten finish, she should have been hiring up. She

2:49:36 > 2:49:41is under way. 5.47. About her usual type of start time. Now with much

2:49:41 > 2:49:47work to do. That mistakes was coming there, I

2:49:47 > 2:49:51could hear, she drove too much round one, too much in the engine to two

2:49:51 > 2:49:55and you could hear the sled is noisier on the ice because she is

2:49:55 > 2:49:59doing too much work steering the sled, compared to the top pilot.

2:49:59 > 2:50:07That is why she is back where she is, because she is doing too much. A

2:50:07 > 2:50:11little mistake there. We have seen how much time that cost her, so is

2:50:11 > 2:50:19this going to be the run that moves her up.Looks like she going to

2:50:19 > 2:50:24loose ground. It has not been Koehler's games and she is over two

2:50:24 > 2:50:31seconds is off the pace. And stays in 12th place.

2:50:32 > 2:50:3851.46 her time there. We were disappointed initially with Mica's

2:50:38 > 2:50:42run, 51.16, in comparison what Koehler has just done. Three tenths

2:50:42 > 2:50:49quicker.And she just overdrove the track all way down the line, looked

2:50:49 > 2:50:52good but she was forcing the line rather than letting the sled do the

2:50:52 > 2:50:58work. A lot of it came to that mistake that was in from one to two

2:50:58 > 2:51:03to three, that section was overdriven. We might get to see that

2:51:03 > 2:51:09now. Another big mistake, that costs you so much time as you go into the

2:51:09 > 2:51:14big corner 12. You can see the difference in lines there between

2:51:14 > 2:51:18the blue line, the leader, they also come on to the same line. She cuts

2:51:18 > 2:51:28it more. It is almost like putting a braking force into the ice.Jamanka,

2:51:28 > 2:51:32Meyers Taylor, separated by 4 hundredths of a second. Looks like

2:51:32 > 2:51:35there will be a close run thing for bronze medal. Kaillie Humphries

2:51:35 > 2:51:42riding the mix. Medals decided later today. Korean cheers now for their

2:51:42 > 2:51:50entry here. Kim Minseong the pilot. Pilot. Kim Yooran on the brake, they

2:51:50 > 2:51:56have been consistent. 51.2 both so far. I think given the conditions

2:51:56 > 2:52:00and how this third run has been shaping up, if they can match that

2:52:00 > 2:52:08again they will be doing very very well. 5.65 is their slowest start so

2:52:08 > 2:52:13far.As the Korean programme moves forward, that is what they have to

2:52:13 > 2:52:18find, better athlete, the coaches were happy when I spoke to them

2:52:18 > 2:52:25today about how well she has done. So that is a good start for them,

2:52:25 > 2:52:32she is doing what she knows she can do. Being where she is is a good

2:52:32 > 2:52:37result for them, so o hopefully she will stay in a sort of, around that

2:52:37 > 2:52:41sort of 13, 14, 15, won't drop back too far or try and pull forward up

2:52:41 > 2:52:49to the top ten.She might nip ahead of Koehler. It will be close between

2:52:49 > 2:52:55Koehler and Kim and Kim goes ahead of Koehler to take 12th place.

2:52:55 > 2:53:01That was another really good run, but it should be, because she knows

2:53:01 > 2:53:06this track so well, compared to all the other slider, she will have

2:53:06 > 2:53:13hundreds of hundred runs down where everybody else has had 40, 45ish. On

2:53:13 > 2:53:20the start there. It did look like she got a first foot out. Maybe that

2:53:20 > 2:53:28isn't enough to get it out at start. A rally good run. This is is a --

2:53:28 > 2:53:32this is is a great view. You have to get past this wall, that is where

2:53:32 > 2:53:36you carry your velocity into the track and build speed as you get

2:53:36 > 2:53:47into the bigger corners in the middle and down the bottom.

2:53:47 > 2:53:56So now we move on to the final seven.

2:53:57 > 2:54:03seven. For Russia next serg have a together with Kocherzhova.

2:54:03 > 2:54:11Disappointing games for then they were record ranked five last year.

2:54:13 > 2:54:17Crashed out in the World Champion last year, that saw them start to

2:54:17 > 2:54:21spiral down the rankings, they have had a poor Olympic Games. You can

2:54:21 > 2:54:25see that mistake coming from the way she entered corner two. She got

2:54:25 > 2:54:30pushed away and got a height later on, that is why you saw that, she is

2:54:30 > 2:54:35looking like she is just behind the sled a bit. What I mean by that, is

2:54:35 > 2:54:40sled's almost half a metre in front of her, she is not quite in the

2:54:40 > 2:54:47rhythm of the track yet. We are nearly at the bottom and she is not

2:54:47 > 2:54:51tapping round. That is one of the only things she has got correctly.

2:54:51 > 2:54:57But it is too late. She might nip ahead of Kim and Koehler here there

2:54:57 > 2:55:05is a chance she will take 12th place. Not quite. It is still such a

2:55:05 > 2:55:10talented pilot a couple of years ago, still a real disappointment.

2:55:10 > 2:55:16The Olympic athletes from Russia, not having a good games generally.

2:55:16 > 2:55:23That is reflected on the track here, at the Alpensia sliding centre. She

2:55:23 > 2:55:27doesn't look happy on the sled or the track. This is one of those

2:55:27 > 2:55:36thank -- tracks it zroent a rhythm, it is like they have taken some of

2:55:36 > 2:55:39the best. It doesn't work because the corners don't push you into

2:55:39 > 2:55:44others you have to find the rhythm of the track and there really isn't

2:55:44 > 2:55:49any. Sometimes it is difficult. You see the athletes working on the

2:55:49 > 2:55:53runners there, polishing them up, checking there is no scratch,

2:55:53 > 2:56:02because every hundredth counts. Nervy moments for the leaders.

2:56:02 > 2:56:10Less so for those at the bottom of the rankings, this is the Belgians,

2:56:10 > 2:56:20they had fun throughout the sliding events with our commentators curse,

2:56:20 > 2:56:25this,al let's, Vannieuwenhuyse has seemingly got a beautiful eye for

2:56:25 > 2:56:30that dragon's tail run. Last year she was perfect through it, so far

2:56:30 > 2:56:37in two runs she has been perfect. Let us see if she can avoid the

2:56:37 > 2:56:42commentary for's curse this time! Yes, she has two good runs yesterday

2:56:42 > 2:56:49but she did have a spill at the first unofficial training, so if she

2:56:49 > 2:56:53makes a mistake between two and three, yes, she seems to be in the

2:56:53 > 2:56:58rhythm of the track. She has driven this really well. There is no speed

2:56:58 > 2:57:05in the track. Running high there. So that had an effect on how she came

2:57:05 > 2:57:11in, she is getting that bit behind the sled. Almost, a centimetre the

2:57:11 > 2:57:18other way. This is the knock on effect from that mistake. Five, six,

2:57:18 > 2:57:27seven corners ago. She is gous starting to catch up. I don't know

2:57:27 > 2:57:39if she do it. Couldn't go past Koehler and Sergeeva. She will be

2:57:39 > 2:57:44disappointed. The somehowest of the three runs so far for her.

2:57:44 > 2:57:49Just a lot of mistakeses.Yesterday she had really good run, today, she

2:57:49 > 2:57:53didn't. We will see what happens with the next couple of sleds, how

2:57:53 > 2:57:57that works out. This was the mistake, she comes too far round,

2:57:57 > 2:58:02doesn't do enough. You don't get to see the knock-on effect. This gets

2:58:02 > 2:58:09too high, down too much. You see her runners are on the wood. That is not

2:58:09 > 2:58:13the fastest line. You want to use it to push you round, see her head pop

2:58:13 > 2:58:19up. She is trying to get every aerodynamic help as you can, doing

2:58:19 > 2:58:23that is great, when you are smooth. Doing that you have bounced off

2:58:23 > 2:58:32every wall. That was a bit late in the day to do that. Now for Romania

2:58:32 > 2:58:40Constantin, together with Grecu. If you follow your bobsleigh winter by

2:58:40 > 2:58:43winter, Grecu, when she returns to the pilot's seat is one to cope an

2:58:43 > 2:58:49eye on, she is a good pilot herself. Constantin has the on more of being

2:58:49 > 2:58:54pilot this time round. 17th in Sochi and improve ocean than would be a

2:58:54 > 2:58:59great result for them, and that reflects their standing at in world

2:58:59 > 2:59:06at the moment.Glar is a good pilot. She is consistency. Some times the

2:59:06 > 2:59:11level of equipment that the Romanians have is not the top

2:59:11 > 2:59:14equipment, because they are a small funded nation. The fact they have

2:59:14 > 2:59:19the sleds they have for the men and the women in the two sled event if

2:59:19 > 2:59:23you leek, shows they have found something, she is having another

2:59:23 > 2:59:28good drive. Almost just got through there again. Having to do a bit of

2:59:28 > 2:59:34work into 17. She is showing her quality. She has a there. It will

2:59:34 > 2:59:41cost her time.Down is a. Chance she could jump too here maybe. Could she

2:59:41 > 2:59:50go 14th? Not quite. Section killing a lot of speed remaining. Say it one

2:59:50 > 3:00:01in 8 climb from after bend 14. So, the Romanians there just having

3:00:01 > 3:00:09to be content with sitting at the moment, in 15th place.

3:00:11 > 3:00:15Confirmation, as we watch the Romanians go again, that, going into

3:00:15 > 3:00:20the metal runs shortly, Mica McNeill will be eighth and has a chance of

3:00:20 > 3:00:28becoming the best ever placed athlete in the women's event here at

3:00:28 > 3:00:31an Olympic Games. If you can hold eighth, that will be to her great

3:00:31 > 3:00:39credit. We'll see if she can do it quickly shortly -- pretty shortly.

3:00:39 > 3:00:49Next to come, another Russian pair, Aleksandra Rodionova, and you'll

3:00:49 > 3:00:58years LMS neck. -- Yulia Belomestnykh. They have a top ten

3:00:58 > 3:01:04finish this season. They were quite good here at the World Cup event in

3:01:04 > 3:01:11Pyeongchang last March, but it seems to have evaporated a bit. I don't

3:01:11 > 3:01:15really know what's been going on with the equipment that this team

3:01:15 > 3:01:22has brought, across the men's and women's sliders. Usually, they are

3:01:22 > 3:01:27quick, you can hear them cutting a bit of ice there, but usually they

3:01:27 > 3:01:31have fine speed at the bottom, but it hasn't worked for them. But

3:01:31 > 3:01:34because of the things surrounding the Russians out here, maybe it's

3:01:34 > 3:01:39because they have got more inexperienced coaching staff out

3:01:39 > 3:01:44here.Speed dropping off all the time for the Russians. Are they

3:01:44 > 3:01:53going to stay in 17th place? They are. No material improvement. We

3:01:53 > 3:02:06move to the last three in our third run. Next to nothing

3:02:06 > 3:02:09run. Next to nothing between Jamanka and Meyers Taylor for the lead. It

3:02:09 > 3:02:13looks as though they are going to fight out the gold medal run just

3:02:13 > 3:02:19over an hour. Not a bad run at all. Just a couple of mistakes here and

3:02:19 > 3:02:25there. Their equipment just isn't working, forward have a reason they

3:02:25 > 3:02:30are a powerhouse nation in sliding and they haven't brought their

3:02:30 > 3:02:36A-game. That's all I can say. You can see the yellow sled, the leader,

3:02:36 > 3:02:39just pulling away quite dramatically in one corner. That's real time

3:02:39 > 3:02:49footage of the overlay.Next will go the Jamaicans, Jazmine

3:02:49 > 3:02:53Fenlator-Victorian and Carrie Russell on the brake. It's been a

3:02:53 > 3:03:00disappointing games for them. The pregames hype was really good.

3:03:00 > 3:03:02Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian, absolutely fantastic at press

3:03:02 > 3:03:08conferences beforehand, talking with great emotion about how she hopes

3:03:08 > 3:03:16she can inspire young black boys and girls, in particular, to say, if I

3:03:16 > 3:03:19can make it here for Jamaica, you hold onto that dream as well. They

3:03:19 > 3:03:26were seventh in winter burg, but they are a long way off that form.

3:03:26 > 3:03:30They've got to put yesterday's disappointments firmly behind them

3:03:30 > 3:03:35and get back in shape. They seemed to slide a little bit away from the

3:03:35 > 3:03:42push.Not quite steady, a little mistake. The issue the Jamaican team

3:03:42 > 3:03:45have had is they've sort of got rid of their coach. A bit of an internal

3:03:45 > 3:03:50squabble.

3:03:51 > 3:03:55squabble. For a driver to not have a coach at this level, and at this

3:03:55 > 3:04:02event, or any event, and she really does well through that point, but

3:04:02 > 3:04:05it's the most important part of the team, because they are your eyes and

3:04:05 > 3:04:08ears on the track to give you the good lines. She comes far too low

3:04:08 > 3:04:18down that point, driving too hard. That coach, they have had to do

3:04:18 > 3:04:23without them, and I'm afraid the results have rather reflected the

3:04:23 > 3:04:27turmoil that has caused. They stay 18th. Their expectations were to be

3:04:27 > 3:04:36much higher than that.And you'd expect that from a pilot of her

3:04:36 > 3:04:41quality. She has won medals for the US team when she used to slide for

3:04:41 > 3:04:46the USA, so it shows she has that ability, but she isn't showing it

3:04:46 > 3:04:50here. Maybe it's because of all the stuff that's gone on in the

3:04:50 > 3:04:54background. It's knocked her confidence and ability to really

3:04:54 > 3:05:00fine tune into the track.A pat on the head nevertheless for Carrie

3:05:00 > 3:05:04Russell through the finish. We'll see the Jamaicans one more time.

3:05:04 > 3:05:11Their fourth and final run not far away.

3:05:11 > 3:05:18Two more to go. World ranked number 19th and in 19th place, Austria, a

3:05:18 > 3:05:24tree on

3:05:24 > 3:05:30tree on bail -- Katrin Beierl and Victoria Hahn. She tends to make

3:05:30 > 3:05:35plenty of mistakes on this track. She has much potential but it's cost

3:05:35 > 3:05:39her here. That was better than yesterday. She is trying to get it

3:05:39 > 3:05:45right. Hopefully on the next run she'll get one through at least to

3:05:45 > 3:05:49finish her Olympics off with something to smile about. She is

3:05:49 > 3:05:54still very experienced as a pilot, and this is what we are seeing. On

3:05:54 > 3:05:58the European tracks she knows, she's done relatively well, but that may

3:05:58 > 3:06:03be shows her ability to quickly, she hasn't got it because she's not got

3:06:03 > 3:06:10the skills in front of the sled to be able to adapt.2.39, a chance

3:06:10 > 3:06:13they could nip ahead of the Jamaicans into 18th they have done

3:06:13 > 3:06:19exactly that. Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian drops back into

3:06:19 > 3:06:3019th, with just the Nigerian team to go. 51.51. Pretty consistent. That

3:06:30 > 3:06:38was a good heat, especially when you think the Jamaican that came down

3:06:38 > 3:06:41before her, they were almost three tenths quicker, so it shows that was

3:06:41 > 3:06:47a good run and she put in the lines where she needed to, other than two

3:06:47 > 3:06:50to three. Hopefully they can now make a run on the next one to try

3:06:50 > 3:06:55and move up out of the top 18 and maybe towards 15 they have to get it

3:06:55 > 3:07:00right first ball. And they have one more opportunity to do so. Run

3:07:00 > 3:07:06number three comes to its conclusion. The Nigerian flags are

3:07:06 > 3:07:15raised once again here. They've created a really nice feeling here.

3:07:15 > 3:07:27We have a new brake, replacing a Cormac Tommy O'Donnell. -- replacing

3:07:27 > 3:07:33Omeoga. If you brought a team of three, I suppose it's appropriate

3:07:33 > 3:07:38for you all to be history makers on the track. Not shows the first team

3:07:38 > 3:07:45from Nigeria to contest Olympic bobsleigh at these games, but the

3:07:45 > 3:07:54first from Africa. Whether it's clean or

3:07:54 > 3:07:57clean or messy, Seun Adigun will relish the spinal two runs. She's

3:07:57 > 3:08:07been full of positivity. Can they get inside 5.54? Sadly not.

3:08:07 > 3:08:08get inside 5.54? Sadly not.A different brake woman, so it might

3:08:08 > 3:08:13be slightly different. A good line, slightly better than yesterday. You

3:08:13 > 3:08:18can already hear, trying to listen to the track as she's coming down, I

3:08:18 > 3:08:22don't know who's taught her that line, but that's not great, it's not

3:08:22 > 3:08:26the way she should be coming round that corner. You can hear her

3:08:26 > 3:08:30digging into the eyes of the time that she's steering, and that's the

3:08:30 > 3:08:38level of pilot she is. It shows she has potential to get it right. This

3:08:38 > 3:08:42is the best run she's put down so far. Good for her that she is trying

3:08:42 > 3:08:45to clear things up and make an improvement. That early mistake was

3:08:45 > 3:08:51unusual, the first mistake we've seen at any event, and staying in

3:08:51 > 3:08:5820th place. You can see the reaction from those who know. This is more

3:08:58 > 3:09:04about the history of it all. 52.31, much better than heat number two,

3:09:04 > 3:09:10not quite as good as heat one. Enjoyed their reaction to that. They

3:09:10 > 3:09:14will be really thrilled. And so they should be. Not as many big mistakes,

3:09:14 > 3:09:22although we still saw a couple.

3:09:22 > 3:09:24although we still saw a couple. This line, she starts low, she releases

3:09:24 > 3:09:28the steering, which is why you see the sled shook up, then it falls out

3:09:28 > 3:09:33of the corner because it has nowhere to go. It's the whole knock-on

3:09:33 > 3:09:42effect. But this run, we've seen some of the top pilots struggled to

3:09:42 > 3:09:48get through there like that. That completes run number three. Gold

3:09:48 > 3:09:52medal run to come pretty shortly. What a race for gold where going to

3:09:52 > 3:09:58have.

3:09:58 > 3:10:01have. Jamanka and Meyers Taylor leading the field, four hundredths

3:10:01 > 3:10:05of second between them. That gold medal looks a long way away for

3:10:05 > 3:10:11Kaillie Humphries, almost impossible for her to get a third, but she is

3:10:11 > 3:10:14in pole position for bronze, ahead of Jamie Greubel Poser and

3:10:14 > 3:10:19Schneider, as we look down the standings. Great Britain in eighth

3:10:19 > 3:10:24place. Mica McNeill and Mica Moore. Slightly disappointing run at the

3:10:24 > 3:10:30time, but a comfortable margin back to the tenth team from Austria. Kim

3:10:30 > 3:10:36for Korea in 12th.

3:10:36 > 3:10:37for Korea in 12th. Disappointing games for Russia and Germany

3:10:37 > 3:10:45respectively. And those at the bottom include the Jamaicans, with

3:10:45 > 3:10:53Nigeria in last place. But to go first, as we go in reverse order for

3:10:53 > 3:10:54heat four.

3:10:58 > 3:11:05That happens at 1pm, but let's get the reaction to that third run.

3:11:05 > 3:11:10Slipping two places, what happened? Whether it was the focus... Who

3:11:10 > 3:11:16knows at this point. The run was just wasn't as clean. A few little

3:11:16 > 3:11:21mistakes, a bit skidding. With the start, relative to the fastest, it

3:11:21 > 3:11:28was closer, but the drive wasn't as good.Hard to tell whether the ice

3:11:28 > 3:11:33was colder today, -11, so that means your equipment, your bobs, whether

3:11:33 > 3:11:38or not she had the same setup as yesterday, is that causing her to

3:11:38 > 3:11:46drive differently? Slightly skiing, -- skidding, a bit more scruffy,

3:11:46 > 3:11:50falling off the corners a bit more. It's the consistency, putting down

3:11:50 > 3:11:56most four runs. That really took away the speed there. And she'd been

3:11:56 > 3:12:00really nailing it. And then she was a bit unsettled for three or four

3:12:00 > 3:12:07corners.They are only 24 and 25, junior champions last year, and this

3:12:07 > 3:12:12is a big step up. Perhaps it's not surprising if you get a bit rattled.

3:12:12 > 3:12:17Yes, and if she can hold that eighth place, it will still be the best

3:12:17 > 3:12:22ever result by a British women's team, and it would be amazing. They

3:12:22 > 3:12:27are the future of this sport.And it's so important for women's

3:12:27 > 3:12:30bobsleigh in this country that they are there and getting airtime and

3:12:30 > 3:12:35doing well.Yes, so not a lot of development athletes in the women's

3:12:35 > 3:12:38programme at the moment, so the more they can show this is a sport for

3:12:38 > 3:12:45women, that is something we can be good at, they will attract...They

3:12:45 > 3:12:49will have gained so much from these Olympics. Fast forward four years,

3:12:49 > 3:12:55how much more they can achieve. The top lines between the top bobsleigh,

3:12:55 > 3:13:00those oscillations, the highs, lows, the loops, you are trying to get the

3:13:00 > 3:13:04cleanest, flattest line. They were so high, almost on the wood and not

3:13:04 > 3:13:10to flip. She had concussion last year, they didn't go in October down

3:13:10 > 3:13:15to the funding, so this is the first time she's been on the track, so

3:13:15 > 3:13:18much less experienced than anybody else out there competing, and yet

3:13:18 > 3:13:23she is still competing.And she's only had 11 runs, the others had

3:13:23 > 3:13:30about 45. A track record broken by Jamanka, then Meyers Taylor went

3:13:30 > 3:13:34even faster. These shots we saw afterwards, Jamanka it looks like

3:13:34 > 3:13:43she is running up that blade with her hand, what is she up to?You are

3:13:43 > 3:13:46sliding on four blades, and every scratch costs you a couple of

3:13:46 > 3:13:51hundredths of a second, so they get four pieces of sandpaper, not even a

3:13:51 > 3:13:55good grip, and they go over them, trying to make sure they are as

3:13:55 > 3:14:00smooth as possible, so it doesn't brake up any ice at all.We saw the

3:14:00 > 3:14:06USA doing the same thing. The gap between gold and silver is now four

3:14:06 > 3:14:10hundredths of a second, and it was 600ths in the men's, which ended in

3:14:10 > 3:14:17a dead heat. Let's take the opportunity now to catch up on the

3:14:17 > 3:14:27head life far on day 12.

3:14:28 > 3:14:36And Goggia the first Italian woman to win the down hill. Lindsey Vonn,

3:14:36 > 3:14:39probably her finest Olympic medal.

3:14:39 > 3:14:44to win the down hill. Lindsey Vonn, probably her finest Olympic medal.

3:14:44 > 3:14:50And the women's skating got under way.

3:14:50 > 3:14:54way. Zagitova had a record score. In the curling the goodbye women beat

3:14:54 > 3:14:59Dan to confirm their place in Friday's semifinals, the Canadians

3:14:59 > 3:15:03were gold list in Sochi but that sends them out of the competition.

3:15:03 > 3:15:08It was a different story for the British men who lost 10-4 against

3:15:08 > 3:15:14the USA. If they are to reach the semifinals they will have to win a

3:15:14 > 3:15:25tie-breaker against the Swiss. Marit Bjoergen has become the most

3:15:25 > 3:15:32decorated winter Olympians of all time. She took bronze in the

3:15:32 > 3:15:37cross-country sprint.

3:15:37 > 3:15:41The Norwegians won the corresponding men's race, earning their 12th gold

3:15:41 > 3:15:48medal of the game, they ended ahead of the OAR and France and the

3:15:48 > 3:15:53goodbye team failed to qualify for the finals. -- GB team. But as you

3:15:53 > 3:15:58have seen, our British pair in the women's bob lying in 8th place, we

3:15:58 > 3:16:04will show their fourth run live on BBC Two. One of the big hits of the

3:16:04 > 3:16:09competition has been big air, we will see the men shortly and it will

3:16:09 > 3:16:14feature Billy Morgan who is an acrobatic guy. He did the

3:16:14 > 3:16:21slopestyle, finished ten. Big air is his thing, Ed Leigh went to meet him

3:16:21 > 3:16:28before the games. Is this going to be your last

3:16:28 > 3:16:32Olympics?Before they came up I was thinking this is probably going to

3:16:32 > 3:16:37be my last one. I am hoping they separate slopestyle and big air and

3:16:37 > 3:16:42I could do big air, this year the qualifications are for both. But if

3:16:42 > 3:16:49they separated them, I could do big air.

3:16:49 > 3:16:55He did a triple backslide rodeo, first man to do that. You were the

3:16:55 > 3:16:59first man to do the Quad cork. Stands to reason that big air is

3:16:59 > 3:17:03your discipline. When that was included did you your hands like

3:17:03 > 3:17:08this, ooh yes?Not really I thought I had done the Quad, which was

3:17:08 > 3:17:12amazing but it was the scariest thing I had ever done. Because it

3:17:12 > 3:17:17was on such a specific jump for the job, I was like I hope I don't have

3:17:17 > 3:17:23do that under pressure, I was stoked to get it done, and then, big air is

3:17:23 > 3:17:27in the Olympics and I am like, I am probably going to have to give it

3:17:27 > 3:17:32another go.Is it still scary?I only did it the one, I haven't done

3:17:32 > 3:17:38it since, so, we keep coming out to, with the objective to try it again.

3:17:38 > 3:17:48But we haven't had a jump big enough yet or I've been too scared.Are you

3:17:48 > 3:17:51conscious you have changed snowboarding.Shouldn't have done

3:17:51 > 3:17:58it. I am glad I did it and got the first title but I wish I had kept

3:17:58 > 3:18:04the gates closed longerer there are a few guys that have done it now.

3:18:04 > 3:18:10How is the build up to this Olympics been compared to the last one?I

3:18:10 > 3:18:14think it's been similar, because we are always chasing the new tricks

3:18:14 > 3:18:18and trying to up the snowboarding as much as possible. It is the same

3:18:18 > 3:18:23goal. The tricks have moved on a lot since then. A lot of guys head to

3:18:23 > 3:18:27the gym, a lot of guys head to the air bags and things like that to

3:18:27 > 3:18:34train.You do power acro, balance yoga sport, you do something ditch

3:18:34 > 3:18:42rent.I try and mix it up as much as possible. I was an acrobat when I

3:18:42 > 3:18:48was younger and I try to bring that into my training and I have someone

3:18:48 > 3:18:54to do acro, it is like doing squats but instead I am leg pressing a

3:18:54 > 3:19:00human, so it is more balance and perception stuff. I do lots of gym

3:19:00 > 3:19:10stuff, skate a bit, and do some acro to keep everything going.

3:19:13 > 3:19:19What can we expect from you?You can expect me to try my hardest. That is

3:19:19 > 3:19:24the answer I was looking for.I will try my hardest. I don't like to

3:19:24 > 3:19:28think about whether I can get a medal, because it is such a roll of

3:19:28 > 3:19:34the dice on the day. If everybody falls over, I will definitely win,

3:19:34 > 3:19:39but, if everybody lands it makes it a harder game. How excited are you

3:19:39 > 3:19:44about the encollusion of big air? Epic. We have two chances to show

3:19:44 > 3:19:49off what we do. We have always done big air as well. It is no like it is

3:19:49 > 3:19:53sprung upon us and we have to learn new stuff. I am glad they are

3:19:53 > 3:19:59including it and they give us a chance to show what we can do.

3:19:59 > 3:20:02Apologies to Tim, that was him talking to Billy Morgan, training

3:20:02 > 3:20:07for that looks dangerous enough, this is the biggest ramp in the

3:20:07 > 3:20:12world for big air, 49 metres high and that should mean the biggest

3:20:12 > 3:20:15trick, first challenge for Billy Morgan is to get through the

3:20:15 > 3:20:19qualifying. Top six from each heat will go into the final. This is how

3:20:19 > 3:20:25they got on. Welcome to men's

3:20:25 > 3:20:26they got on. Welcome to men's snowboard big air

3:20:26 > 3:20:41qualification.Michael Shearer. Junior World Champion, 2014.

3:20:41 > 3:20:49So switch, backside. Triple cork, 1440, that was really nice. That leg

3:20:49 > 3:20:54grab in there. It is a big, big signpost to the judge, they hate

3:20:54 > 3:21:02seeing that. 87 points is third place.

3:21:02 > 3:21:07Tony Nicholls just getting into the groove. It is all on the line here.

3:21:07 > 3:21:13Unlucky not to make finals in slopestyle. He was, he will want to

3:21:13 > 3:21:18make amends here.He needs to send it from the top here. The boy from

3:21:18 > 3:21:23Bradford. 24 years of age. That is what he does, he barely took a slide

3:21:23 > 3:21:31slip. Tower -- powering in. 1440. Yes!That is how you do it.It is a

3:21:31 > 3:21:37flat spin, a 1440, it was big.And it was switch.Yes.Where is grab?

3:21:37 > 3:21:46There isn't one.No body grab.Held all the way. Boom! 81.25. It is not

3:21:46 > 3:21:54there. 8th place. He knocks down his fellow countryman. He knows for 2018

3:21:54 > 3:22:00his Olympics is done. Now, this is going to be a lot of fun, what is

3:22:00 > 3:22:04Max Parrot going to do? He has the lead at moment, very very

3:22:04 > 3:22:08comfortably, is he going to send this one, is he going to use this to

3:22:08 > 3:22:11test things out or will he coast along? He is scrubbing a lot of

3:22:11 > 3:22:17speed. He is going frontside again, I think. Same trick, frontside,

3:22:17 > 3:22:22triple cork, 14, even better. That is an improvement in the score for

3:22:22 > 3:22:28him. There is no-one, no-one who works like Parrot and he imagines

3:22:28 > 3:22:38that dedication with the desire to win.Told you.Into the 90s. Take a

3:22:38 > 3:22:45bow. We are watching the man who everyone else has to beat.

3:22:45 > 3:23:00Next Chris Corning. Sniff round a quad?No slouch on a snowboard.

3:23:05 > 3:23:13Another 1440.He has a bit of style on that.Really nice.He has time to

3:23:13 > 3:23:25stretch out the front leg. 88. So, he jumps into second place ahead of

3:23:25 > 3:23:30fellow countryman Kyle Mack. He still wouldn't have beaten Max

3:23:30 > 3:23:35Parrot's score.

3:23:36 > 3:23:43Parrot's score. This man brings hiss own flavour and style.Oh my

3:23:43 > 3:23:51goodness. Great tweak, but it's from a boot grab. How much are judges

3:23:51 > 3:24:00going to punish him for a boot grab? 88.75. So the judges seemingly not

3:24:00 > 3:24:08too worried about the boot grab, interesting. So Gerard, gold

3:24:08 > 3:24:13medallist, slopestyle Olympic champion.

3:24:22 > 3:24:29Needs something very very good here. Again, opens up very early.

3:24:29 > 3:24:35It feels to me like he sold himself a little short there.

3:24:35 > 3:24:43What do I know? The judges have given it an 85.

3:24:46 > 3:24:53So Mattsson in 15th. He definitely has the power.Like Jamie Nicholls

3:24:53 > 3:24:58he doesn't dip his spins so no short cuts for him. His rotations are kept

3:24:58 > 3:25:03flat. I think he is changing that now.

3:25:03 > 3:25:09Oh my goodness.Unlimited power. That was beautiful. Look at the way

3:25:09 > 3:25:16he comes through here, such beautiful close board control. 4.5

3:25:16 > 3:25:22spins we have seen put down nice an cleanly, the trailing hand is just

3:25:22 > 3:25:30poised.Look at that.

3:25:30 > 3:25:35poised.Look at that.He is well within reach of the top spot. It is

3:25:35 > 3:25:46rowan Coultas. So out of Bedford via Austria...He

3:25:46 > 3:25:50goes big an it is clean but the trailing article was on the knee

3:25:50 > 3:25:55again.

3:25:56 > 3:26:02again. Stays off the knee. Think it does. It is an improvement. But not

3:26:02 > 3:26:10enough.Oh no.He missed out by 0. 5.

3:26:10 > 3:26:14Max Parrot looking all powerful at the top of the standings there,

3:26:14 > 3:26:20no-one even close to that 92.5. Not when you look at how close the

3:26:20 > 3:26:27scores

3:26:27 > 3:26:31scores were, fifth place Schaerer. It is not done and dusted yet. Heat

3:26:31 > 3:26:42two just round the corner. Bergrem, we have talked about the

3:26:42 > 3:26:47fact this Norwegian has sat in the shadow of perhaps the more high

3:26:47 > 3:26:52profile names on the team but it is undeserve, he is stylish in his own

3:26:52 > 3:26:59right and brilliant at big air.Yes, big air winner, 1620. Oh my

3:26:59 > 3:27:06goodness.That is as big as we have seen anyone go. Heat one or two.

3:27:06 > 3:27:14Two. 94.25. So it is a different contest, you can't compare it but it

3:27:14 > 3:27:19is same set of judges and way bigger than Max Parrot's score from heat

3:27:19 > 3:27:29one. So Seb Toutant. The French Canadian dropping in switch. Switch.

3:27:29 > 3:27:42Switch frontside spin coming up. Switch, frontside double cork, 1620,

3:27:42 > 3:27:45ladies and gentlemen, sit down, strap yourselves in, it is calling

3:27:45 > 3:27:56it.Lost it.Yes, second place. He makes it lose easy.

3:27:56 > 3:28:03So next rider in Boesiger.

3:28:12 > 3:28:17Ooh! The cameraman got a bit confused there.

3:28:17 > 3:28:21Look how much it means to him. He is absolutely over the moon with that

3:28:21 > 3:28:27one. Backside 1620, triple cork. Keeping his hands up there.

3:28:27 > 3:28:40Let us see, it does go down. 96! Wow! Oh my goodness.

3:28:40 > 3:28:50Next in Garcia Knight. He is in fifth place. Landed backside was it

3:28:50 > 3:28:56switch backside or...Switch backside 16.To start, dropping in

3:28:56 > 3:29:00forwards this time.Oh no. Signposting that he is going switch

3:29:00 > 3:29:08with a 180 at the top. He will clean this up. And he has.

3:29:08 > 3:29:13I don't think it was possible to clean it up. Look at the style as

3:29:13 > 3:29:23well.Really nice. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.97.5, say

3:29:23 > 3:29:26hello to first place Garcia Knight. That is ludicrous.

3:29:26 > 3:29:31Wow.

3:29:31 > 3:29:40Next in, Mark McMorris. Currently in fifth place, just ahead of Billy

3:29:40 > 3:29:45Morgan. We say this a lot, but it's not somewhere he is used to being

3:29:45 > 3:29:58sacked. Mark McMorris is bone fide podium material.

3:29:58 > 3:30:04A sharp intake of breath from the commentary booth. He's gone switch

3:30:04 > 3:30:07backside, arguably the hardest direction to spin it, and he's

3:30:07 > 3:30:12fighting fire with fire.

3:30:14 > 3:30:16fighting fire with fire. 95.75. That switch backside working with the

3:30:16 > 3:30:23judges. They like it.Now the British fans in effect getting ready

3:30:23 > 3:30:35for this man, Billy Morgan. Back in 2015, he landed the

3:30:37 > 3:30:402015, he landed the quad cork. This jump not big enough for it at the

3:30:40 > 3:30:54moment, supposedly. Massive. Oh, it's better! It's better!Oh, Billy!

3:30:54 > 3:31:05Bending the board. Lee Morgan, 90.5. The look on the lead's face. Carlos

3:31:05 > 3:31:09Garcia Knight, blazing his way to the top second qualification heat.

3:31:09 > 3:31:15Jonas Boesiger in second, Sebastien Toutant in fifth. Billy Morgan in

3:31:15 > 3:31:16six.

3:31:20 > 3:31:25So Billy Morgan will be in the final Big Air, late Friday night, 1am, and

3:31:25 > 3:31:32I think will all be following that. I love the enthusiasm of our

3:31:32 > 3:31:35commentators. I don't know what any of those tricks are, but it's so

3:31:35 > 3:31:44exciting!I know, just nailing it. All about the backside.Very cool.

3:31:44 > 3:31:48The judges loved a backside! We've seen so fantastic sports but none so

3:31:48 > 3:31:54chaotic as you find in ski cross. If the downhill is Formula 1, this is

3:31:54 > 3:31:58bumper cars, knockout all the way. Edgeley again in the commentary box,

3:31:58 > 3:32:05this time with Graham Bell.

3:32:15 > 3:32:21Even though he's in the blue bib in the outside lane, I think the Brady

3:32:21 > 3:32:30Leman is going to go well.

3:32:30 > 3:32:31Leman is going to go well. Niederer not panicking his quarterfinal,

3:32:31 > 3:32:37pulled himself into the lead. Two Swiss, one Slovenian and a Canadian.

3:32:37 > 3:32:42And the Swiss drop, and it's looking like Brady Leman on the outside has

3:32:42 > 3:32:49just got ahead of Flissar.

3:32:49 > 3:32:55just got ahead of Flissar. Brady Leman in second, but somehow Marc

3:32:55 > 3:32:59Bischofberger in yellow blasted out in front.I think maybe Flissar and

3:32:59 > 3:33:05Brady Leman cancelled each other out. They let the Swiss through.

3:33:05 > 3:33:11He's made a mistake, and he's going to open the door. And the Canadian

3:33:11 > 3:33:17taking advantage, Flissar in third, Niederer in fourth, desperately

3:33:17 > 3:33:22trying to find a way in front of Flissar. The Canadian and the Swiss

3:33:22 > 3:33:32battling it out.Marc Bischofberger coming back, the great line.

3:33:32 > 3:33:36Niederer all the way through from fourth. Will we see him coming right

3:33:36 > 3:33:40back through to the front?It's Brady Leman's to lose. He's in lead

3:33:40 > 3:33:47towards the last kicker. It's closed. He punches it forward. Brady

3:33:47 > 3:33:50Leman goes through, into the Olympic final again. Fourth place last time

3:33:50 > 3:34:00in Sochi. What can he do now? This is where we see that mistake from

3:34:00 > 3:34:07Marc Bischofberger.Inside ski lead into the turn too much. As long as

3:34:07 > 3:34:13Brady Leman can ski that cleanly, he'll be fine. If it wasn't for the

3:34:13 > 3:34:17mistake from Marc Bischofberger, he would have taken that when, but it

3:34:17 > 3:34:24doesn't matter, he is qualified, through to the finals, but he'll

3:34:24 > 3:34:27know that if you make a mistake like that into the final, you could be

3:34:27 > 3:34:35out of the medals.Back up to the top for the second of the sect Derry

3:34:35 > 3:34:45semifinals. I think the last Frenchman in the mix, Bovolenta.

3:34:45 > 3:34:51Dave Duncan broke his collarbone ahead of the Olympics in Vancouver.

3:34:51 > 3:34:55Bovolenta in the nearest lane. He hasn't been starting that quickly

3:34:55 > 3:34:59but he makes his presence felt. He's done the same.He has made a right

3:34:59 > 3:35:08hash brown of it.Sergey Ridzik keen to cut out the Canadians. Dave

3:35:08 > 3:35:11Duncan in the yellow bib, and then Kevin Drury in the green, trying to

3:35:11 > 3:35:17go around the outside, but Bovolenta, his maths has worked for

3:35:17 > 3:35:22him, and he's back in the mix. Flailing in last place though. -- is

3:35:22 > 3:35:27maths.

3:35:28 > 3:35:34maths.At the moment, Dave Duncan in the yellow bib in second. Racing

3:35:34 > 3:35:38round the outside.Dave Duncan has gone wide, letting his team-mate

3:35:38 > 3:35:43through. Sergey Ridzik into second. Somehow, Bovolenta is in the mix,

3:35:43 > 3:35:50after all those mistakes. They have done -- Dave Duncan was hopping over

3:35:50 > 3:35:58the tails of Bovolenta's skis in fourth.I think that Sergey Ridzik

3:35:58 > 3:36:05is just clear of Bovolenta.Kevin Drury out in front, Sergey Ridzik in

3:36:05 > 3:36:09second, Bovolenta in third. And Dave Duncan slipping all the way down to

3:36:09 > 3:36:17fourth. What a race! That is Sergey Ridzik's big move on the outside,

3:36:17 > 3:36:20and so close, Dave Duncan actually, I think, shaving a bit of speed to

3:36:20 > 3:36:26make sure he doesn't take down Brady Leman. Looking like it's going to be

3:36:26 > 3:36:32a real humdinger. We've got two Canadians through, Kevin Drury and

3:36:32 > 3:36:37Brady Leman, from the first heat, and the Russian and the Swiss will

3:36:37 > 3:36:42stop Marc Bischofberger looking very strong. If he can get out in front,

3:36:42 > 3:36:45he could take gold, but he's got two Canadians to worry about. Watch out

3:36:45 > 3:36:53for Sergey Ridzik. Back up to the top. It's time to hand out the

3:36:53 > 3:36:59medals. This is going to be very, very close. They are lining up in

3:36:59 > 3:37:07the gates. Marc Bischofberger in the lane closest to the camera. The

3:37:07 > 3:37:11mechanic from Switzerland, up against the Olympic Athlete from

3:37:11 > 3:37:16Russia, Sergey Ridzik, who has raced very well, quickest of these racers

3:37:16 > 3:37:21in the seeding round. And there is Brady Leman, is the chance, he was

3:37:21 > 3:37:29fourth in Sochi four years ago.In the green bib macro on the outside,

3:37:29 > 3:37:33unusually opting for the outside lane, Kevin Drury, the Canadians so

3:37:33 > 3:37:38fast, the Russians so clever, and Marc Bischofberger so widely. They

3:37:38 > 3:37:49are under starter 's orders. This drop-off start... Pressure on the

3:37:49 > 3:37:55gate and the skis. They are underway. Radial and looking good,

3:37:55 > 3:38:05but it's the Russian that's ahead. -- the Canadian looking good.A lot

3:38:05 > 3:38:11of work to be done by the Canadians. Look at that move from Brady Leman!

3:38:11 > 3:38:19It's gone for the Russian! Who can get up fastest?A battle for gold

3:38:19 > 3:38:23between Marc Bischofberger and Brady Leman.Brady Leman is guaranteed a

3:38:23 > 3:38:28medal as long as he can stay on his feet.Marc Bischofberger in silver

3:38:28 > 3:38:33medal position, chasing down Brady Leman. Can Sergey Ridzik get up and

3:38:33 > 3:38:38claim the bronze, or will it be the Canadian? We are focusing on the

3:38:38 > 3:38:42front, and it would be incredible from Brady Leman. Eight years ago,

3:38:42 > 3:38:48he broke his leg just ahead of the Winter Olympics. Four years ago,

3:38:48 > 3:38:53agonisingly fourth. He is losing a bit of time.Marc Bischofberger

3:38:53 > 3:38:56slipstreaming, and Sergey Ridzik in bronze medal position. As they come

3:38:56 > 3:39:05over the last Jungle...Flailing for the Canadian. -- over the last jump.

3:39:05 > 3:39:10What an incredible performance from Brady Leman!Silver for Marc

3:39:10 > 3:39:13Bischofberger, the Swiss leader of the World Cup. He turns it into a

3:39:13 > 3:39:23medal. And then it is Sergey the Russian, working his way through.

3:39:23 > 3:39:26Unfortunately for Kevin Drury, a Canadian, who convincingly let every

3:39:26 > 3:39:33one of his races up to this point, he's taken out.I think it was Drury

3:39:33 > 3:39:38that went down. We'll have to see that crashed again. These are the

3:39:38 > 3:39:42medallists, and look what it means to Brady Leman. It's taken him so

3:39:42 > 3:39:47long to get there, onto an Olympic podium, and he's got top spot.Marc

3:39:47 > 3:39:50Bischofberger right over the front end of his skis, beautifully

3:39:50 > 3:39:57positioned.The speed that Brady Leman gets coming in to hear... It

3:39:57 > 3:40:01was a definite fall for Kevin Drury. Went down first, and took Sergey

3:40:01 > 3:40:09Ridzik out at the knees. Brady Leman, soaking up these jumps, down

3:40:09 > 3:40:12into the finish area, and Marc Bischofberger, so close, you could

3:40:12 > 3:40:19nearly touch Brady Leman, but he takes silver, and then Sergey Ridzik

3:40:19 > 3:40:23for bronze.

3:40:23 > 3:40:26Decent crowd and good conditions, fabulous action in the ski cross,

3:40:26 > 3:40:31giving Canada their ninth gold medal of the games, in third place,

3:40:31 > 3:40:38stretching clear of the Netherlands. Great Britain still in 16th place,

3:40:38 > 3:40:41with just one gold and three bronzes. We started today hoping

3:40:41 > 3:40:47that maybe the women's bob would give us another medal. It was asking

3:40:47 > 3:40:53a lot. Full credit to Amy Williams, who has made this two-man bob.I

3:40:53 > 3:40:59needed a bit more time.It's a good two bob effort, and you didn't even

3:40:59 > 3:41:02have two box to make it! Mica McNeill at Mica Moore have slipped

3:41:02 > 3:41:08down the table after their third run, so now in eighth, but it could

3:41:08 > 3:41:16still be the best ever finish in women's bob.Yes, they are 24, 25,

3:41:16 > 3:41:19without the experience or background, without the number of

3:41:19 > 3:41:22runs the other athletes had, so still fantastic and hopefully

3:41:22 > 3:41:27they'll solidify that or even move up.You both know what it's like to

3:41:27 > 3:41:31be up there at the top of the sliding track, waiting for your

3:41:31 > 3:41:35fourth run, you know you'll go in reverse order, what do you do in the

3:41:35 > 3:41:42final moments?Your mind is racing and you are constantly telling

3:41:42 > 3:41:45yourself, don't do anything differently, they will be warming

3:41:45 > 3:41:48up, they will have got the bobsleighers already, and they will

3:41:48 > 3:41:54just go through the run, so Mica will be going through those lines,

3:41:54 > 3:41:57running through the mental imagery in her head. They don't get many

3:41:57 > 3:42:03runs to learn this track. She will be going through exactly what she's

3:42:03 > 3:42:06doing here, shutting her eyes, picturing each corner in her head

3:42:06 > 3:42:12and going through the steering points. It's all about thinking

3:42:12 > 3:42:17ahead and anticipating the bends. Yes, no time to reflect on what's

3:42:17 > 3:42:20happened, it's constantly ahead, what's my next movement, how am I

3:42:20 > 3:42:24coming into this corner and what adjustments do I need to make? We

3:42:24 > 3:42:29all get carried away, and you'd hope she wouldn't be concentrating too

3:42:29 > 3:42:33much on the medal, but perhaps those mistakes in the third run, she got

3:42:33 > 3:42:37ahead of herself a bit. Now the pressure is off, she needs to go out

3:42:37 > 3:42:44there and put down the greatest run of the week, and she'll come back.

3:42:44 > 3:42:5051.16 her third run, slowest so far, but still in eighth place. A top ten

3:42:50 > 3:42:53finish would be magnificent for a team that have relied on

3:42:53 > 3:42:58crowdfunding to get to Pyeongchang. They are the ultimate underdogs.

3:42:58 > 3:43:02We'll show you that fourth run on BBC Two. They will be going in

3:43:02 > 3:43:07reverse order. This could yet be the best ever finish in women's bob for

3:43:07 > 3:43:11a Team GB pair. Join us over there is the action continues. We are

3:43:11 > 3:43:13heading to the one
