0:00:44 > 0:00:51Everyone, clear the decks. Sit down and watch this. Charlotte Kalla

0:00:51 > 0:00:55becomes the Winter Olympic champion. The defending champion is in a

0:00:55 > 0:01:03wonderful position now. This is the Olympic spirit, this is what it is

0:01:03 > 0:01:12all about.Your Olympic champion is Germany's Andreas Wellinger.The

0:01:12 > 0:01:19moment that will be historically remembered by all in attendance.

0:01:19 > 0:01:27Jamie, the disappointment. The hosts have struck gold. All three of them

0:01:27 > 0:01:33are out now. It is great skating from Elise Christie. She is safely

0:01:33 > 0:01:39through to the quarterfinals. Those were the thrills, the spills and the

0:01:39 > 0:01:45medals from day one and welcome to the official day

0:01:45 > 0:01:46medals from day one and welcome to the official day two for the

0:01:46 > 0:01:51Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. We have the whole day ahead of us, and

0:01:51 > 0:01:59if you stick with us, you are in for an absolute treat.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01We have curling coming up from midnight with action

0:02:01 > 0:02:03from the final session of the mixed doubles competition.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05We have the rough and tumble

0:02:05 > 0:02:06of the men's slopestyle.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Sadly no British interest but will we see another Bloody Dracula?

0:02:09 > 0:02:17If you have no idea what I mean, join us at 1am.

0:02:20 > 0:02:21And it's the women's turn

0:02:21 > 0:02:23in the slopestyle as qualifying begins from 4.30am.

0:02:23 > 0:02:28No Katie Ormerod but Great Britain's Aimee Fuller goes in that one.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33If you were expecting the men's Downhill, sadly it has been

0:02:33 > 0:02:37cancelled because of the weather. Now we have the Figure Skating.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40If you'd like to get in touch, please tweet me using

0:02:40 > 0:02:45the hashtag #bbcolympics.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Our question to you...

0:02:47 > 0:02:49"If you could be great at any winter sport,

0:02:49 > 0:02:53what would it be and why?"

0:02:53 > 0:02:57For me, it would beat the Ski Jumping. I would like to have the

0:02:57 > 0:03:02guts to slide down and jump of that building whilst looking like this

0:03:02 > 0:03:08man here. I'd give you, Robert Johansson. Look at his moustache. He

0:03:08 > 0:03:13is preparing to fly of 95 metres with nothing but gravity being his

0:03:13 > 0:03:23friend as he uses the uplift, and air resistance.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28air resistance. He is pumped with himself and there is not a single

0:03:28 > 0:03:33hair out of place. That kind of facial architecture, should get a

0:03:33 > 0:03:43medal. He did get a medal himself in the Ski Jumping. Now it is time that

0:03:43 > 0:03:51the curling and if you are not an expert, here is your own guide.

0:03:51 > 0:03:56Curling originated in 16th century Scotland and peered in 1924 when

0:03:56 > 0:03:59Great Britain won the gold. The aim of curling is to get more stones

0:03:59 > 0:04:04closer to the centre of the scoring area known as the house, than your

0:04:04 > 0:04:09opponent. Sleeping is a key part. It affects the distance and direction

0:04:09 > 0:04:13as stone travels. Tactics are crucial, retaining last own

0:04:13 > 0:04:20advantage, known as the hammer. In the events, there are four players

0:04:20 > 0:04:25in each team and they curl two stones each end. Only one team can

0:04:25 > 0:04:31score per end and matches are over ten ends. This year sees the

0:04:31 > 0:04:34addition of mixed doubles in the limpid programme played over eight

0:04:34 > 0:04:38ends instead of the traditional ten.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42And it is the mixed doubles competition that is in full swing.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Here are the standings going into the final

0:04:44 > 0:04:46session of the round robin.

0:04:46 > 0:04:52The top four qualify for the semifinals with Canada

0:04:52 > 0:04:55and the Olympic athletes from Russia are already in the hat by virtue

0:04:55 > 0:04:57of their head-to-head record against the others.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59Norway and Switzerland need to win to seal their spots, with China

0:04:59 > 0:05:01waiting in the wings.

0:05:01 > 0:05:03And it is the mixed doubles that we'll be featuring tonight,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06as Norway take on China and Jackie Lockhart joins us

0:05:06 > 0:05:14from the Gangneung Curling Centre.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19Jackie, what has the reaction been for this debut at the Winter

0:05:19 > 0:05:24Olympics in the mixed doubles. You catch me here live in the curling

0:05:24 > 0:05:35centre. The mixed doubles has had a fantastic result here. The Games are

0:05:35 > 0:05:39exciting, the crowds are loving it and it is Fast and Furious and I

0:05:39 > 0:05:44think it is going down really well. It is amazing to hear and we are

0:05:44 > 0:05:48focusing on the way against China, what can you tell us?The Chinese

0:05:48 > 0:05:53team need to win to keep their game alive. Norway will go straight

0:05:53 > 0:05:57through to the play-off competition if they win. The Chinese team have

0:05:57 > 0:06:03been playing OK.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06been playing OK. Ba Dexin has been shooting his lights out and the only

0:06:06 > 0:06:12thing that has prevented them succeeding earlier in the game, is

0:06:12 > 0:06:16the fact that last player hasn't quite often finished the Stone. It

0:06:16 > 0:06:23will be interesting to see how they get on.After the 20 17th World

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Championships, Switzerland were undefeated, so I expected them to

0:06:26 > 0:06:32possibly win this may be undefeated again, what has happened to them?It

0:06:32 > 0:06:36could be just the pressure. You are the reigning world champions and you

0:06:36 > 0:06:41take at that, a lot of weight on your shoulders. They have struggled

0:06:41 > 0:06:46this week. They have won a few games I thought they might not. They have

0:06:46 > 0:06:51had to dig very hard. But let me tell you, just one stone can make a

0:06:51 > 0:06:54difference in this whole game and that's the only difference. They

0:06:54 > 0:06:58haven't been playing at their full potential but they still have an

0:06:58 > 0:07:03opportunity to win the game today Yankey their hopes alive. Can we

0:07:03 > 0:07:07talk about Canada, their story to this has been incredible. The fact

0:07:07 > 0:07:12that silver medallist from the 2017 World Championships lost to them in

0:07:12 > 0:07:17the Olympic trials, it is a kid to 2002 when Scotland beat Rhona

0:07:17 > 0:07:26Martin's team when they worth the reigning champions? The Canadian

0:07:26 > 0:07:30team have two very good players. Both of them won an Olympic gold

0:07:30 > 0:07:35medal in the team game themselves. Canada have taken this very

0:07:35 > 0:07:38seriously. They didn't have a good start but they are playing well. I

0:07:38 > 0:07:43think they are the other team to watch going into this last play-off

0:07:43 > 0:07:50stages.They lost their first five head-to-head, its momentum important

0:07:50 > 0:07:54in curling or can you turn it around?Momentum is very important,

0:07:54 > 0:08:00but the mixed doubles is very dynamic and even if you are three or

0:08:00 > 0:08:03four shots ahead, you are never safe because you can win big ends in this

0:08:03 > 0:08:10game. The way they play everything into the four foot. I can see the

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Canadians are gaining in confidence and they are shooting their lights

0:08:12 > 0:08:17out here just now. They will definitely be playing like that

0:08:17 > 0:08:25today. They

0:08:25 > 0:08:28today. They are in a roll and they are the ones to watch. How gutted

0:08:28 > 0:08:40were you not to see a GB team? The Scottish team go out in Lethbridge

0:08:40 > 0:08:45last year and I was there. We watched the last game and it was

0:08:45 > 0:08:49heart-wrenching. One shot, so close. I am sure they will be back and we

0:08:49 > 0:08:54will see Great Britain in the mixed doubles very shortly.Thank you so

0:08:54 > 0:08:57much for your time, we'll let you find your commentary position as we

0:08:57 > 0:09:03find no against China. Your commentator is Logan.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15COMMENTATOR: this morning brings the conclusion of what has been an

0:09:15 > 0:09:19exciting round robin and we still have five Nations in contention for

0:09:19 > 0:09:30a semifinal spot. Two have already qualified.

0:09:30 > 0:09:35qualified. Canada and Olympic Athletes From Russia. It is an

0:09:35 > 0:09:42exciting new format providing lots of stones in play, every single end.

0:09:42 > 0:09:49Unfortunately, TeamGB playing as just mentioned. We will see them

0:09:49 > 0:09:57back out on the ice in the team game in a few days. But this mixed

0:09:57 > 0:10:01doubles format, whetting the appetite for lots of engrossing

0:10:01 > 0:10:12curling action. My name is Logan Gray and alongside me, four-time

0:10:12 > 0:10:18Olympian and reigning world senior champion, Jackie Lockhart. The teams

0:10:18 > 0:10:26just being for this final round robin session.

0:10:26 > 0:10:31robin session. Our focus is going to be at the game between Norway and

0:10:31 > 0:10:41China.

0:10:45 > 0:10:52This is how they stack up after six rounds. Canada leading the way. They

0:10:52 > 0:10:56lost their first game but rattled off five in a row to be the first

0:10:56 > 0:11:02team into the play-offs. What is very clear at the moment, to be

0:11:02 > 0:11:06considered for the semifinals, they will have to reach a record of four

0:11:06 > 0:11:11wins and three losses as a minimum. If no way can beat China and draw

0:11:11 > 0:11:17seven, they will qualify at China's expense. The liner will be complete

0:11:17 > 0:11:29for the semifinals. Jackie, welcome back to the commentary bench.Thank

0:11:29 > 0:11:32you, yes, just rushed from the platform. Should be an exciting

0:11:32 > 0:11:37game. Both teams will be keen to win, as you always are, but China,

0:11:37 > 0:11:42to keep their hopes alive and the least get a play-off position. They

0:11:42 > 0:11:53need to win. There is a look at the results so far. Three extra ends for

0:11:53 > 0:12:02China. Losing two of them. Good win in their last two games, so maybe

0:12:02 > 0:12:08momentum, making a run for the play-offs. These are saying, perhaps

0:12:08 > 0:12:12no way are the dark horses this week. They have given some good

0:12:12 > 0:12:18performances, the only team to have beating Canada this week? They got

0:12:18 > 0:12:22Canada in the first game and that is when you want to catch Canada. They

0:12:22 > 0:12:27are quietly confident, the Norwegians. They don't look overly

0:12:27 > 0:12:32confident, but they are throwing some really good stones.I think you

0:12:32 > 0:12:38are right, they go about their way quietly, get on with the job, make a

0:12:38 > 0:12:46lot of shots and win games.You don't have two shout anything.They

0:12:46 > 0:12:52can have pre-positioned stones. One of the differences in the mixed

0:12:52 > 0:12:59doubles, we have two stones on the centre line. At the moment there is

0:12:59 > 0:13:03a red guard of Norway, protecting the house and a Yellowstone of China

0:13:03 > 0:13:12just up the back of their forfeit circle. This is Kristin Skaslien.

0:13:12 > 0:13:18Throwing first in the game. 50% for the week. In the round robin, we

0:13:18 > 0:13:23expect the stats to be slightly lower than usual than the team

0:13:23 > 0:13:28format, if you like. Just due to the kind of higher technical difficulty

0:13:28 > 0:13:39of the shots.

0:13:40 > 0:13:49Good shot to start the game from Kristin Skaslien. He is Wang Rui,

0:13:49 > 0:13:5471% so far this week. Jackie, you were mentioning it has been a mixed

0:13:54 > 0:14:00bag and maybe it is those key shots that need to be made by Wang Rui?

0:14:00 > 0:14:06She generally has a very first good stone, but she has to throw the last

0:14:06 > 0:14:12stone and that has made the difference to this Chinese team. She

0:14:12 > 0:14:17has had a 50% record. It has been a shame. I felt sorry for her, because

0:14:17 > 0:14:22quite often it was only just by millimetres she was missing shots.

0:14:22 > 0:14:26It wasn't that she was playing outrageously bad, they were so

0:14:26 > 0:14:33close, but not coming. If you keep the same practice routine and the

0:14:33 > 0:14:37same mental ability that you use, these shots are going to come after

0:14:37 > 0:14:41you.

0:14:41 > 0:14:42Disses Magnus

0:14:42 > 0:14:50Disses Magnus Nedregotten, the male play of Norway, super stat, 79%, --

0:14:50 > 0:14:54this is Magnus Nedregotten. Normally the players will play two stones in

0:14:54 > 0:14:58the team game, but in this format, the first player just throws one,

0:14:58 > 0:15:02then you have the middle player, if you like, throwing three

0:15:02 > 0:15:05consecutively before the first player returns to throw the last

0:15:05 > 0:15:11stone in the end. Kristin Skaslien will play the first and fifth stone

0:15:11 > 0:15:15of this end and Magnus Nedregotten will play the second, third and

0:15:15 > 0:15:23full, as will Ba Dexin, playing 73% for the week. Jackie, this is the

0:15:23 > 0:15:29first takeout of the game.

0:15:29 > 0:15:33first takeout of the game. After five stones in play, you can hit a

0:15:33 > 0:15:36stone out but we are playing with Freegard rules, here, which helps

0:15:36 > 0:15:42keep the game dynamic -- three card rules. Not being able to take out

0:15:42 > 0:15:46stoned early in the end means there will be a few stones in play. --

0:15:46 > 0:15:54take out stones. A game created for its dynamics, I think, for audience

0:15:54 > 0:15:57participation. I think it has come across really well on the TV

0:15:57 > 0:16:05coverage. Wright I think you're right. I think for a lot of the

0:16:05 > 0:16:08traditionalists in curling, the jury has been out a bit around this

0:16:08 > 0:16:11format but here at the Olympic Games, I think there is no question

0:16:11 > 0:16:16that mixed doubles is here to stay. Definitely, the buzz has been very

0:16:16 > 0:16:23good in the mixed doubles. I think a lot of people wondered why there was

0:16:23 > 0:16:26only eight teams participating this year in the Olympics but I've heard

0:16:26 > 0:16:31a rumour that they will potentially be looking at 16 for the next

0:16:31 > 0:16:39Olympics in 2022. I can see the highlight of this, well, it has been

0:16:39 > 0:16:43raised, the bar has been raised so a lot of teams will be desperate to

0:16:43 > 0:16:51get a position in that Olympic event.

0:16:51 > 0:16:56It seems like a lot of games to get through, Jackie, on top of the 50 we

0:16:56 > 0:17:00have already got, another eight sessions or something?I think they

0:17:00 > 0:17:07are going to put them into pools so you would still have a schedule but

0:17:07 > 0:17:11it would be a lot of work for the ice technicians, that is for sure

0:17:11 > 0:17:15but let's see how it goes. There's a lot of permutations and scheduling

0:17:15 > 0:17:20and planning has to go into place before it all happens. And let's

0:17:20 > 0:17:23remember that the mixed doubles curling started the day before the

0:17:23 > 0:17:28opening ceremony, the first of any of the events to begin here at the

0:17:28 > 0:17:34Winter Olympics. That is just due to the very extensive schedule that we

0:17:34 > 0:17:42have over the two weeks.43 games, I think, we have the potential for

0:17:42 > 0:17:47covering, Logan, which is an awful lot of curling out there. You know

0:17:47 > 0:17:51what? If they have all been as exciting as what we have seen so by

0:17:51 > 0:17:56this week, I don't think it will be a problem.Not at all! We have had

0:17:56 > 0:18:02some great crowds in as well so we have -- it has gone down well with

0:18:02 > 0:18:09the crowds here.Norway throwing off the guard and China have been

0:18:09 > 0:18:16playing it off so far. It looks like Norway may well be lying one at the

0:18:16 > 0:18:22back of the button but a very close indeed. Ba Dexin going to ignore the

0:18:22 > 0:18:26guard this time and tried to play around on to the red at the top of

0:18:26 > 0:18:34the circle. A good look at the sweeping technique of Wang Rui.

0:18:34 > 0:18:40Going past the guard? He has just caught it. There's an awful lot of

0:18:40 > 0:18:45sweeping in this game, especially when you only have one sweeper. You

0:18:45 > 0:18:51have to be pretty fit to be playing mixed doubles, I would say. It may

0:18:51 > 0:18:59look simple to the person outside watching it on the television but

0:18:59 > 0:19:03they are putting a lot of energy into this sweeping and your heart

0:19:03 > 0:19:08rate will go right up and part of the fitness programme is the fact

0:19:08 > 0:19:11that you can recover very quickly because you then have two come down

0:19:11 > 0:19:16and sit on the black hack, there, and managed to deliver very steadily

0:19:16 > 0:19:28a pretty intense stone.

0:19:29 > 0:19:35So Kristin Skaslien back in the pack to deliver the last Norwegian stone

0:19:35 > 0:19:42in this first end. Going to put the guard back on exactly where it was

0:19:42 > 0:19:49before.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52before. Jackie, these sweeping is not just to keep your partner busy,

0:19:52 > 0:19:56is it, give them something to do? There's actually some scientific

0:19:56 > 0:20:02reasons for doing it.Yeah, you're sweeper can help hold stones

0:20:02 > 0:20:06straight if necessary and you will see the sweeper changing from one

0:20:06 > 0:20:10side to the other depending on the direction, they can make it curl

0:20:10 > 0:20:13more or go the other side and sweep to hold it straight but quite often

0:20:13 > 0:20:18you might see both of them come down if they need to take it further. If

0:20:18 > 0:20:22you have two really good sweepers, you could probably in the mixed

0:20:22 > 0:20:25doubles make it three or four feet further than it would if you did not

0:20:25 > 0:20:31have a sweeper.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35have a sweeper. That guard was not exactly played where they wanted it

0:20:35 > 0:20:39to buy Norway, drifting into the house and you can see the Stones are

0:20:39 > 0:20:44kind of lined up, there are, so it could well be a chance for China to

0:20:44 > 0:20:48raise the stones right up the line, read on to yellow on to read, sort

0:20:48 > 0:20:55of thing, and maybe get a point on the board. -- the read on to the

0:20:55 > 0:21:00yellow on the red.She could do a tap but she's going to do the shots

0:21:00 > 0:21:06that you suggested. The final stone of the first end. Wang Rui trying to

0:21:06 > 0:21:17get a point on the board for China. Nicely done. Great shot by Wang Rui.

0:21:17 > 0:21:22And an end that looked like it might be a steal for Norway turns into a

0:21:22 > 0:21:26steal, a point with the last stone, for China, and I'm sure that'll be a

0:21:26 > 0:21:34nice settler for Wang Rui who played here in session seven, -- one and

0:21:34 > 0:21:40played in the seventh session and it is People's Republic of China 1-0

0:21:40 > 0:21:45Norway. Just a reminder that there are four games out here in every

0:21:45 > 0:21:52round robin session. We are focusing on the left-hand side. There's

0:21:52 > 0:21:57another look at that terrific final stone. Lots of moving on this one.

0:21:57 > 0:22:06Sticking it right on the button to get a point on the board. We will

0:22:06 > 0:22:09try to keep you up-to-date with what is happening on the other three

0:22:09 > 0:22:14sheets that are out there. Finland and USA on the second sheet,

0:22:14 > 0:22:20Switzerland and the Olympic athletes of Russia on sheet C and Canada

0:22:20 > 0:22:28against Korea on sheet D.

0:22:28 > 0:22:31against Korea on sheet D. So, with China starting the second end this

0:22:31 > 0:22:36time, having scored in the previous end, they have to start the next

0:22:36 > 0:22:40one, the repositioned stones the opposite way round this time, a

0:22:40 > 0:22:46Chinese guard out front.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49Chinese guard out front. And a stone at the back of the forfeit. This

0:22:49 > 0:22:52will be be set up pretty much throughout the whole game.Yes, this

0:22:52 > 0:22:57is the setup through the whole game and the only time we will see a

0:22:57 > 0:23:01change is if the team decide to play a power play and that is when they

0:23:01 > 0:23:04move the stones to almost in the same position as they are, not

0:23:04 > 0:23:08quite, but moving them across either to the left or the right out on the

0:23:08 > 0:23:13wings, and the dynamic side of the change. The idea is the team with

0:23:13 > 0:23:16the last stone want to try to keep the forfeit open and hopefully give

0:23:16 > 0:23:21themselves a chance of a three Toure four, a big score, we have not seen

0:23:21 > 0:23:25them successfully played out that way this week but one mistake and

0:23:25 > 0:23:31the whole end changes. Of course, as much as you are trying to manipulate

0:23:31 > 0:23:35the game to make it easy for you, your opposition is trying to make it

0:23:35 > 0:23:39difficult at the same time. You are also playing against what their

0:23:39 > 0:23:49tactics would be. Slightly tight, there. She has popped the guard,

0:23:49 > 0:23:54opened it up.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00opened it up. Key point in this game is having draw weight in your

0:24:00 > 0:24:06pocket. All of the teams get a practice before they come on to

0:24:06 > 0:24:12start the competition itself, before every game.

0:24:13 > 0:24:18every game. They will be throwing draw after draw after draw to know

0:24:18 > 0:24:23what the draw weight is, draw weight, touch back, come around, tap

0:24:23 > 0:24:28backs and the big things for mixed doubles as the angles. -- the big

0:24:28 > 0:24:33thing for mixed doubles is the angles.Ba Dexin playing his first

0:24:33 > 0:24:39stone of the second end. The 2017 Asian Winter Games gold medallist,

0:24:39 > 0:24:47second position in the team game, that is. This Chinese pair winning

0:24:47 > 0:24:53medals in 2016 and 2017 in the mixed doubles curling Championships,

0:24:53 > 0:25:04silver in 2016 in Karlstad in Sweden and bronze in Lethbridge in Canada.

0:25:09 > 0:25:14He has taken that yellow far enough in. We will see how much of it,

0:25:14 > 0:25:25makes it difficult to remove both yellow stones.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28yellow stones.There is the Norwegian coach, a very good player

0:25:28 > 0:25:32himself, played skip in the team game for lots of years. I don't

0:25:32 > 0:25:39think he plays quite so much these days but an excellent player. This

0:25:39 > 0:25:43Norwegian mixed doubles team are very experienced, they played in the

0:25:43 > 0:25:46last five world mixed doubles championships together. Their best

0:25:46 > 0:25:56result being a bronze medal in Sochi, in 2015.And I believe they

0:25:56 > 0:26:03are engaged out as well. -- engaged now. So they must be OK playing in

0:26:03 > 0:26:12the same team.I'm not sure I could manage that with my wife! LAUGHTER

0:26:12 > 0:26:17I'm going to get myself in hot water, here.I think I would get by

0:26:17 > 0:26:23P 45 pretty quickly. These guys are still in the honeymoon period. He

0:26:23 > 0:26:32has cleared the front, there. I'm sure we will see Ba Dexin... He has

0:26:32 > 0:26:35the opportunity, actually, of maybe tapping his own yellow and change

0:26:35 > 0:26:39the lay of where they are lying, he could catch the yellow behind and

0:26:39 > 0:26:45bring it on to the face of the back red.

0:26:51 > 0:27:00So both the Chinese pair are full-time athletes.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03Just going to rumble things around, as you said, Jackie, and it improves

0:27:03 > 0:27:11the angles. They will be able to play some raises on those yellow

0:27:11 > 0:27:14stones onto the bottom point of the stone at the back of the button.

0:27:14 > 0:27:19What is really good is that the Chinese team are protecting the

0:27:19 > 0:27:23front of the forfeit circle which is the red circle you see in the

0:27:23 > 0:27:26centre, there, and that is ideally where they want to be. They want to

0:27:26 > 0:27:33be controlling that. Norway have the hammer and they have the last stone

0:27:33 > 0:27:36but China have the opportunity of tapping some of the yellows onto the

0:27:36 > 0:27:45back red. It would need a helicopter for Norway to get in, then.

0:27:54 > 0:27:59So taking plenty of ice out here. He's going to play an out turn, come

0:27:59 > 0:28:11around, and anti clockwise rotation of the stone.Look at the release,

0:28:11 > 0:28:14one o'clock and turning it back to 12 o'clock to make its been in that

0:28:14 > 0:28:17clockwise rotation and ultimately make it curl back towards the centre

0:28:17 > 0:28:29of the sheet. Magnus Nedregotten actually...This is going to over

0:28:29 > 0:28:38curl.He was close to playing in the team format this week as well, he

0:28:38 > 0:28:40ran very close to getting a Norwegian place and he has an

0:28:40 > 0:28:48extremely high calibre curler. -- so he is. They went to the World

0:28:48 > 0:28:51Championships and beat Austria in the qualifiers but I think in the

0:28:51 > 0:28:56end the Norwegian curling Association went for experience over

0:28:56 > 0:29:02youth.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06youth. The leader of the infamous pair before of Canada, that coach,

0:29:06 > 0:29:09multiple world champions in the early 2000, coaching the peoples

0:29:09 > 0:29:14Republic of China this week. He is the national coach so we will see

0:29:14 > 0:29:19him out there for the time-outs in the mixed doubles and also for the

0:29:19 > 0:29:28team games next week.

0:29:33 > 0:29:44Ba Dexin, yellow onto the back. He has played a lovely shot. It is just

0:29:44 > 0:29:49sitting to the left of the centre line. So an opportunity for Norway

0:29:49 > 0:29:58to come down and sit right on top of it.That there is exactly what they

0:29:58 > 0:30:04wanted to set up with this one.

0:30:07 > 0:30:13wanted to set up with this one.Two stones remaining.

0:30:13 > 0:30:17stones remaining. He is wanting to come right down and sit right on to

0:30:17 > 0:30:30where we see the Olympic rings, on the yellow in the house.

0:30:39 > 0:30:44In the bottom corner of the screen, we see a stopped clock running. That

0:30:44 > 0:30:53is going to take a time between the line from when the stone has to be

0:30:53 > 0:31:01released. We are seeing around about 14 seconds to get the stones to the

0:31:01 > 0:31:10tee line. Not struggling for weight so much, but lining the inside. He

0:31:10 > 0:31:16is needing to take either more eyes, it is difficult to say whether he

0:31:16 > 0:31:28can lead the stone Prattley. -- ice. ,

0:31:30 > 0:31:34, said Wang Rui, they are still lying two shots but that is a

0:31:34 > 0:31:39danger. She has either got to take it out without catching any of her

0:31:39 > 0:31:54yellow stones or she has got to play God. -- guard.

0:31:55 > 0:32:00Interesting decision. Weighing up the option of lying for five against

0:32:00 > 0:32:07potentially having two stones in a much stronger position. Looks like

0:32:07 > 0:32:16they are going to throw the guard. If you make them, it is the right

0:32:16 > 0:32:20shot, if you don't make them, it is the wrong shot. We have followed

0:32:20 > 0:32:26China couple of times this week and she just hasn't been able to do it.

0:32:26 > 0:32:32This will be the easy option for her.Just scrapes over the red line

0:32:32 > 0:32:36to get into the playing area. If the stone was touching the line, it

0:32:36 > 0:32:45would be removed from play. That was a good sleep thereby Ba Dexin. --

0:32:45 > 0:32:47sweep.

0:32:54 > 0:32:58With it being a really, really high guard, the Norwegian team have the

0:32:58 > 0:33:07opportunity to come down and they should be able to get past the high

0:33:07 > 0:33:15guard and get into the one foot for the shot. We have seen a couple of

0:33:15 > 0:33:26the shots pulling too much towards the centre. Last stone

0:33:28 > 0:33:40the centre. Last stone here.About 126

0:33:40 > 0:33:45126 feet to the end. With the guard being a bit too long, Norway still

0:33:45 > 0:33:50have the chance to get out of this one. Still a tough shot. She has

0:33:50 > 0:34:01played this very well. Yes they have. Only just.Fabulous shot by

0:34:01 > 0:34:09Kristin Skaslien. That shot is right up there with the bus. Just a score

0:34:09 > 0:34:13of one for Norway. Both teams not managing to make full use of that

0:34:13 > 0:34:30last advantage so far in this game. At this stage, it is 1-1.

0:34:39 > 0:34:45A look at that fantastic last stone by Kristin Skaslien. The high guard

0:34:45 > 0:34:56was a bit of a nuisance. Trusted the line and perfect weight. Great shot.

0:34:56 > 0:35:10Elsewhere here in sessions as in, -- seven, Canada are still on fire, off

0:35:10 > 0:35:23to a great start against the host nation, Korea. 2-0 after two ends.

0:35:38 > 0:35:42He is the first stone of the end again. Kristin Skaslien seems to

0:35:42 > 0:35:51have this shot in her back pocket at the moment. Makes a good one.

0:35:57 > 0:36:03Do you think it easier or more difficult to have open and honest

0:36:03 > 0:36:06communication with your fiancee out on the ice, as opposed to just a

0:36:06 > 0:36:14friend?You do tend to say a lot of things you wouldn't say to a

0:36:14 > 0:36:24colleague. But you should both be very clear on your dynamics. They

0:36:24 > 0:36:28seem to be very good at separating their home lives and what is

0:36:28 > 0:36:37happening on the ice.

0:36:37 > 0:36:42happening on the ice.It is a sport where you have to know how your

0:36:42 > 0:36:45colleagues are feeling, if they are having a good day, if they are

0:36:45 > 0:36:50having a bad day. Especially in the mixed doubles, there is only two of

0:36:50 > 0:36:54you, you have to be a good partnership to make it work.

0:36:54 > 0:37:00Likewise in the team event, it is only for people. You have an

0:37:00 > 0:37:04opportunity in the normal team events, where you have got a buddy

0:37:04 > 0:37:07who will pull you out of trouble. There is less likeliness of that

0:37:07 > 0:37:18here. There is nowhere to hide in mixed doubles if you are not having

0:37:18 > 0:37:23a good game.We were talking at breakfast about those days you can

0:37:23 > 0:37:27have sometimes, where you just cannot feel the weight. How

0:37:27 > 0:37:34difficult it is to overcome that. Huge part of this game is having

0:37:34 > 0:37:44good draw weight and having it for the whole eight ends of this game.

0:37:45 > 0:37:52The team is also have the opportunity, they can change the

0:37:52 > 0:37:55dynamics if somebody is struggling. They can ? not during the game but

0:37:55 > 0:38:03after each end. You may want to say, I am not finish this last stone off,

0:38:03 > 0:38:08can I move and do the three stones in the middle? Feel the comfort,

0:38:08 > 0:38:12settle and then in the next end you could go back. We haven't seen much

0:38:12 > 0:38:18of that happening at all. But there is the opportunity for the teams to

0:38:18 > 0:38:23change.I don't think I have seen it happen at all. Every time I have

0:38:23 > 0:38:27played mixed doubles in the past, it is something we have tended to do,

0:38:27 > 0:38:31if things are going badly and we are under the cosh at every end, we will

0:38:31 > 0:38:35try something different.I thought the Chinese team, they should have

0:38:35 > 0:38:43done it in game three when poor little Wang Rui was struggling. On

0:38:43 > 0:38:47the counter side are back, you have got to believe your form is going to

0:38:47 > 0:38:58come back. They persevered.

0:38:59 > 0:39:04It is a bit of deja vu in the setup in this third end. The second end

0:39:04 > 0:39:08was very similar. The yellow wall across the front of the house and it

0:39:08 > 0:39:15worked out quite nicely.Once again, they are commanding the front of the

0:39:15 > 0:39:22forethought and that is exactly what you want to do. A lot of eyes they

0:39:22 > 0:39:27are taking, so it must be a big curl from left to right into the centre

0:39:27 > 0:39:33of the house.

0:39:33 > 0:39:37of the house.Always very interesting to kind of understand

0:39:37 > 0:39:42the different strategies of the different teams. This situation here

0:39:42 > 0:39:46looks like they will throw in another guard. They are shutting up

0:39:46 > 0:39:53shop already here. So trying to block the path down onto these

0:39:53 > 0:39:59yellow stones. In that situation you might see a team like Canada try and

0:39:59 > 0:40:04tidy things up and say, I am not going to lose any point in this end,

0:40:04 > 0:40:09I am going to make sure I can score. But they are taking a much more

0:40:09 > 0:40:14risky strategy here.

0:40:29 > 0:40:34Ba Dexin, deciding himself he wants to clear up the front. He needs to

0:40:34 > 0:40:40get in and that is a good result there.

0:40:46 > 0:40:50Maybe Norway will take a different approach. Still lying short at the

0:40:50 > 0:40:57back of the button.Even if they put a guard up, one would not be enough

0:40:57 > 0:41:03to cover both sides of the two yellows down there. Looks like we

0:41:03 > 0:41:12will see him trying to move both these yellows. He needs to catch the

0:41:12 > 0:41:20one on the right quite thin and catch the one on the left and push

0:41:20 > 0:41:29it through the house. Not throwing heaps of weight at this one. Just

0:41:29 > 0:41:37controlled weight which allows him to jump up and sweep it.

0:41:37 > 0:41:43to jump up and sweep it.He missed the top one, but he caught the other

0:41:43 > 0:41:49and that is actually sitting very nicely. That is a really good shot

0:41:49 > 0:41:52by Magnus Nedregotten. We saw him jump but as he throws the stone and

0:41:52 > 0:41:57sweeps it. That is something you are taught not to do in the team game,

0:41:57 > 0:42:06isn't it?It is, yes.

0:42:06 > 0:42:10isn't it?It is, yes. You have got to be comfortable on the ice. The

0:42:10 > 0:42:14conditions are good out there. People watching will be thinking,

0:42:14 > 0:42:20they have one slippy soul and one gripper soul, how do they balance.

0:42:20 > 0:42:25But it's not as slippy as you would think it would be. There is a pebble

0:42:25 > 0:42:32on top of it. Like every athlete in their disciplined sport, they make

0:42:32 > 0:42:37it look easy.

0:42:38 > 0:42:45it look easy. This is the final stone at the end for Ba Dexin. Just

0:42:45 > 0:42:58the one more to come after this 4-3. -- Wang Rui.Just an nice weight

0:42:58 > 0:43:07here, catch the red and push it through. Could have afforded to have

0:43:07 > 0:43:11caught a bit more of the red and he wouldn't have rolled so far to the

0:43:11 > 0:43:20left. But he has the yellow stones still sitting in front of the

0:43:20 > 0:43:27Norwegian red, so difficult to remove and not touch his own stone,

0:43:27 > 0:43:34the Norwegian.Looking a bit precarious, that Redstone at the

0:43:34 > 0:43:40moment, three yellow stones lying about in scoring position. Just a

0:43:40 > 0:43:44reminder, you don't get any points for having the stones on the

0:43:44 > 0:43:47periphery of the house, it is about who is closest to the middle and how

0:43:47 > 0:43:54many. Only one team can score in an end.

0:44:02 > 0:44:07How's your Norwegian, Logan? They were doing some housework on behalf

0:44:07 > 0:44:10of, getting the stone prepared but I believe they're going to try to get

0:44:10 > 0:44:14another one into the house and freeze this side of the yellow

0:44:14 > 0:44:21stone.Corner freeze. They have to get it in because it's an easy

0:44:21 > 0:44:25take-out at the moment for China, to score as many as four. Already a key

0:44:25 > 0:44:30shot in this game for Kristin Skaslien. We saw a super shot to

0:44:30 > 0:44:41finish the second end and they need another one coming here.

0:44:43 > 0:44:52It needs to be in bird shot position. She's managed that. --

0:44:52 > 0:44:56third shot position. They can't cover all options and they've left

0:44:56 > 0:45:02the option of the yellow that we see Ba Dexin standing behind, raising it

0:45:02 > 0:45:08to the red in the centre. The key was to get in the third shot

0:45:08 > 0:45:13position and not lined them up.And out count the yellow in the back of

0:45:13 > 0:45:17the rings, there.

0:45:22 > 0:45:30So she just needs to get the quarter on the right-hand side of that

0:45:30 > 0:45:34yellow, drive it back into that red in the house, hopefully get a score

0:45:34 > 0:45:45of two. These are the key shot that she sometimes hasn't been making.

0:45:45 > 0:45:52How is this one going to work out? Too thin.Just caught it to them.

0:45:52 > 0:45:56Can you believe she has squeezed that through there? Thinner, she

0:45:56 > 0:46:02comes off her own yellow and makes it an figure, she makes it.That has

0:46:02 > 0:46:07been the story of a week.In a game the other day, she had shots for

0:46:07 > 0:46:11four and she was giving up one, and it is a five shot swing in just one

0:46:11 > 0:46:18shot. A shame for Wang Rui, there. Norway really get away with that,

0:46:18 > 0:46:23they steal one in the third end to take a 2-1 lead over China. Here is

0:46:23 > 0:46:30another look. Just hit a fraction more of that stone, it will go on to

0:46:30 > 0:46:34the red but a bit too thin and clips it, through the port between the two

0:46:34 > 0:46:39stones.

0:46:39 > 0:46:47stones. Only single scored so far, here. -- singles scored. China with

0:46:47 > 0:46:50one in the first end and then consecutive singles in the second

0:46:50 > 0:46:56and third, for Norway. There is the scoreboard in the background that

0:46:56 > 0:47:04you can see and also the clocks so both teams have 22 minutes of

0:47:04 > 0:47:07thinking time, basically, when a stone is not running, the clock is

0:47:07 > 0:47:13running instead. When players are thinking about and deciding what

0:47:13 > 0:47:18shots to play and preparing the stones, the clocks will be running.

0:47:18 > 0:47:22And once they have delivered the stone, the clock stops so it is all

0:47:22 > 0:47:26about thinking time and not about the running time of the stone.

0:47:26 > 0:47:31Introduced several years ago to help teams who are playing a lot of

0:47:31 > 0:47:35drawers against someone who is playing it weights because the time

0:47:35 > 0:47:41difference was making a big impact on the game. And of course we want

0:47:41 > 0:47:46people to play draw shots and get lots of stones in place so you don't

0:47:46 > 0:47:53want those teams to be penalised. -- in play. This is re-dynamic, if you

0:47:53 > 0:47:57break it down, it is about three minutes per end that each team have

0:47:57 > 0:48:03to think and play these five shots. There's not a lot of time. Quite

0:48:03 > 0:48:07often we will see at the end, getting to the latter stages of the

0:48:07 > 0:48:12end, teams are rushing to finish and that is when mistakes can get made.

0:48:12 > 0:48:15I guess that is the whole dynamics of why they have made the game so

0:48:15 > 0:48:22quick and fast and brought it down to just 22 minutes.

0:48:29 > 0:48:32Peoples Republic of China, actually playing well at the moment but we

0:48:32 > 0:48:36have seen this all week, playing really well but not getting the

0:48:36 > 0:48:42results out of it.Yes, they seem to be controlling ends but not

0:48:42 > 0:48:46converting it into points.Just not finishing it off and that is why I

0:48:46 > 0:48:48find it really difficult to understand why they have not change

0:48:48 > 0:48:58the dynamics.I think Magnus has overcooked that slightly.Once

0:48:58 > 0:49:04again,

0:49:04 > 0:49:08again, behind the T-line and he would have preferred to stop, angled

0:49:08 > 0:49:16against the bed, the yellow in the house.

0:49:16 > 0:49:20We can see five stones in place so if China did want to play a

0:49:20 > 0:49:27take-out, they can now. If they decided to do that on any of the

0:49:27 > 0:49:30previous shots, or removed one from play by mistake, it would be

0:49:30 > 0:49:36replaced.

0:49:36 > 0:49:39replaced. So Ba Dexin, I think, trying to come down and rumble

0:49:39 > 0:49:43things around a little bit familiar, trying to free the red stone off the

0:49:43 > 0:49:47bottom.

0:49:59 > 0:50:04So just bounces a little bit off, there and opens up that stone at the

0:50:04 > 0:50:13bottom once again.

0:50:16 > 0:50:20One on the edge of the button at the moment. Quite a nice pocket for

0:50:20 > 0:50:25Norway to be able to draw one down, Kristin Skaslien holding the brush,

0:50:25 > 0:50:31the aiming point for the throwing player. Not where the stone will

0:50:31 > 0:50:35finish but it starts off on that line, if you draw a line between the

0:50:35 > 0:50:39player in the hack and the brush, that is the line they will start off

0:50:39 > 0:50:42on and then it will curl away from there and into the middle of the

0:50:42 > 0:50:51sheet.A lovely pocket of stones for him to sit in front of and use them

0:50:51 > 0:50:59for protection. It is a lot harder for the opposition to hit it out,

0:50:59 > 0:51:05then. He's really got to sweep hard, be fully in the four foot, the red

0:51:05 > 0:51:16circles. He's just come up light, disappointing shot.

0:51:16 > 0:51:20Seems to be struggling with that side of the sheet.

0:51:24 > 0:51:31Cutting a little bit of a frustrated figure at the moment. There does

0:51:31 > 0:51:39seem to be a lot of curl of that Barry said, the outside sheet, the

0:51:39 > 0:51:42barrier on the right-hand side and sometimes it tends to curl a little

0:51:42 > 0:51:46bit more when you are next to the barrier. As opposed to on some of

0:51:46 > 0:51:53the other sheets in the centre. Another opportunity for Ba Dexin to

0:51:53 > 0:52:04come in and control the top of that four foot. This one looks a little

0:52:04 > 0:52:09bit high at the moment and it's amazing how much they curl when the

0:52:09 > 0:52:16weight comes off them. Just once this to stop on the T-line. It has

0:52:16 > 0:52:22ever so slightly crept further back and he is lying two shots, there,

0:52:22 > 0:52:25but there is a great opportunity for Norway to come in and sit a red

0:52:25 > 0:52:30right between the two yellows and that would be going anywhere. --

0:52:30 > 0:52:36that won't be going. You are right, Jackie, if the two yellows stones on

0:52:36 > 0:52:39the button were the other side of the T-line you would say they were

0:52:39 > 0:52:43in great shape but because they are behind it, it allows Norway to come

0:52:43 > 0:52:46down and rest against them rather than have to move them to be in a

0:52:46 > 0:52:53shot position. It really is a game of inches. Magnus Nedregotten with a

0:52:53 > 0:53:03great chance to retrieve a bit of a sticky situation.

0:53:03 > 0:53:06sticky situation.Yeah, opportunity for him to correct the wrong from

0:53:06 > 0:53:16the stone before.

0:53:19 > 0:53:22Just over corrected and that too much weight on that and it is

0:53:22 > 0:53:28sitting too far out. -- and put too much. Real momentum swings in this

0:53:28 > 0:53:31end. Both teams have had opportunities to close it out and

0:53:31 > 0:53:38neither have done so, so far.

0:53:38 > 0:53:39neither have done so, so far. So Ba Dexin with an opportunity, now, to

0:53:39 > 0:53:46come down and sit on the four foot, he wants to be there but he wants to

0:53:46 > 0:53:51be high off the centre, one Foot Circle where you can see the Olympic

0:53:51 > 0:53:55rings, there, just sitting in front. If he comes right onto the top of

0:53:55 > 0:54:06it, it is looking into both of the yellow shots.

0:54:13 > 0:54:17All about creating the opportunity for you to finish it off. I am

0:54:17 > 0:54:23surprised. This is a great example. I'm not sure why he does not get

0:54:23 > 0:54:28Wang Rui up in the head because he places shots, comes out and ask Sir

0:54:28 > 0:54:33to watch the line, edges her out of the way. He's got his elbows out and

0:54:33 > 0:54:37everything in there.Great shot, look at that. But in that situation,

0:54:37 > 0:54:43Wang Rui could be in the head, calling the line all the way.I

0:54:43 > 0:54:51think you are absolutely right. Ba Dexin has done that a few times this

0:54:51 > 0:54:54week, comes up and almost barges are out of the way and does the

0:54:54 > 0:54:59sweeping.She crouches down and does what she is told. "I Will call the

0:54:59 > 0:55:08line!"One thing is for sure, it is going to be a score for China, the

0:55:08 > 0:55:16yellow played by Ba Dexin is in jail and is never coming out. It is going

0:55:16 > 0:55:24to be damage limitation here, for Norway. Can she sit right on top of

0:55:24 > 0:55:32the red, Logan, and out count more than just one? Need to see the

0:55:32 > 0:55:34house.

0:55:42 > 0:55:45They still seem to be decided what to do from the other end of the ice

0:55:45 > 0:55:49which can be quite difficult. Generally the pattern of play would

0:55:49 > 0:55:54be to decide what you want to do at the end with the stones and then go

0:55:54 > 0:55:58down and play it but still a lot of discussion at the hack.I think they

0:55:58 > 0:56:04have played a few times down the outside side of the sheet and it is

0:56:04 > 0:56:10maybe what I to take. Oh, she's going to play some weight at this.

0:56:10 > 0:56:19-- what ice to take. As the potential to move one of the yellows

0:56:19 > 0:56:27out to the side. Actually not a bad result, there.Kristin Skaslien has

0:56:27 > 0:56:32done very well with the last stone of the fifth end, fourth end, sorry,

0:56:32 > 0:56:42for Norway. Just move them both enough to lie second shot, I think.

0:56:47 > 0:56:52Looks like it might be another single, here. Difficult to see.I

0:56:52 > 0:56:59think the yellows are lying two, people's republic of China are lying

0:56:59 > 0:57:03two, difficult to see from the camera angle sometimes, you really

0:57:03 > 0:57:10have to be overhead, so an opportunity now for Wang Rui to come

0:57:10 > 0:57:16in with a turning in, clockwise rotation of the stone. The final

0:57:16 > 0:57:20stone of the fourth end, Wang Rui, all the play has been done the other

0:57:20 > 0:57:23side of the sheet so perhaps some guesswork required but still a

0:57:23 > 0:57:29chance to get one onto the edge of the button and secure the multiple

0:57:29 > 0:57:35score. It looks pretty close. Ba Dexin trying to squeeze it. Great

0:57:35 > 0:57:41draw.He's done that very well. A definite two. You have to be careful

0:57:41 > 0:57:46when they are removing all of these stones. One, two, and I think they

0:57:46 > 0:57:53might measure for a third. No, they've given up three.Wow, great

0:57:53 > 0:58:00shot by Wang Rui to put another one on the board and you were right, it

0:58:00 > 0:58:03was a three, the first multiple score of the game. China now leading

0:58:03 > 0:58:12Norway 4-2 at the half-time break. If you have enjoyed this first half

0:58:12 > 0:58:16of the game and you want some more, we are going to be leaving you want

0:58:16 > 0:58:19BBC One at moving over to the red button for the conclusion of this

0:58:19 > 0:58:28pivotal last game of the round robin.

0:58:29 > 0:58:33You can continue to follow the action on the red button as we turn

0:58:33 > 0:58:37our attention specifically to the men's slopestyle final but before

0:58:37 > 0:58:42that, Twitter. We asked you to get in touch via the hashtag,

0:58:42 > 0:58:45#bbcolympics and some of the pictures are genuinely outstanding.

0:58:45 > 0:58:49Case in point, Diane, who has clearly taken inspiration from the

0:58:49 > 0:58:51Norway

0:58:51 > 0:58:53clearly taken inspiration from the Norway against China and to need a

0:58:53 > 0:58:5820 kilograms granite stone when you can use a plastic clad kettle bell.

0:58:58 > 0:59:02Note the attention, there is a broom, she's gone for the corridor

0:59:02 > 0:59:06curling option. Diane, I like your style. This next one, everybody

0:59:06 > 0:59:12loves a cute dog picture, and this is Lindsay's .com Buddy who is Ray

0:59:12 > 0:59:17confused by the luge and the speed at which they seem to go past the

0:59:17 > 0:59:22screen but Buddy, I'm glad you're a fan. Last but by no means least, if

0:59:22 > 0:59:28ever Michael Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards ever needed a tribute act,

0:59:28 > 0:59:33it would look like Adrian. I hope everyone is watching the action in

0:59:33 > 0:59:39that position because you must have quads like Thor to maintain that

0:59:39 > 0:59:43position. You are a hero and thank you for taking part. Get in touch

0:59:43 > 0:59:48via the hashtag, #bbcolympics. I mention the men's slopestyle final

0:59:48 > 0:59:52is around the corner. Qualification happened yesterday and as ever, it

0:59:52 > 0:59:57was epic.

0:59:58 > 1:00:05Here we go, Marcus Kleveland. Bomb jump. 1440 to finish.Jamie

1:00:05 > 1:00:12Nicholls, the first Britos free to drop in.Very nice.Very smart.

1:00:12 > 1:00:2071.50 six.That is a lot lower than I thought we would see.

1:00:20 > 1:00:24I thought we would see.Mark McMorris, backside 14, treble.Boom,

1:00:24 > 1:00:30absolutely nailed it.Bloody Dracula, Rowan Coultas!Oh, no, he's

1:00:30 > 1:00:39gone again.He had all the ingredients in the first run.No!

1:00:39 > 1:00:48The disappointment else. Max Parrot, currently sat in second place.

1:00:48 > 1:00:54Something big, here, backside triple, so playing it safe. Doing it

1:00:54 > 1:00:56all wrong! 87.3!

1:01:09 > 1:01:09Jenny

1:01:09 > 1:01:19Jenny Jones is down by the slope.I am so excited. I don't live you

1:01:19 > 1:01:26noticed yesterday Max Parrot came out on top. Normally

1:01:27 > 1:01:29out on top. Normally would see Marcus Cleveland. Shame about the

1:01:29 > 1:01:34Brits, but this will be exciting. All the BBC crew asking the

1:01:34 > 1:01:40question, will we see another bloody Dracula? The double handed grab at

1:01:40 > 1:01:46the end of his tail, so hopefully it will be there. There will be some

1:01:46 > 1:01:51stylish riding from these guys. What has happened here today, we have

1:01:51 > 1:01:56found the wind, as you can see, is picking up so it is a downhill win.

1:01:56 > 1:02:02That could affect them in going really deep on the landings but I

1:02:02 > 1:02:05don't think we will worry about clearing the jumps today for the

1:02:05 > 1:02:13athletes.Aimee Fuller said on Instagram, she is ready to drop in

1:02:13 > 1:02:17later today. When they are about to drop in, what will be going to the

1:02:17 > 1:02:21minds with the wind behind them? They will have felt the wind in the

1:02:21 > 1:02:27practice and it is going to be about getting the natural dial in of your

1:02:27 > 1:02:33body and censor your speed. As you come to the Wales the rails, can you

1:02:33 > 1:02:37feel the wind against you or are you going faster, so have felt the wind

1:02:37 > 1:02:40in the practice and it is going to be about getting the natural dial in

1:02:40 > 1:02:43of your body and censor your speed. As you come to the rails, can you

1:02:43 > 1:02:46feel the wind against you or are you going faster, so had to slow down it

1:02:46 > 1:02:52is like a battle with these teams. Try to follow Marcus Cleveland,

1:02:52 > 1:03:01sorry Mark McMorrisa and Max Parrot because they will be on Marcus

1:03:01 > 1:03:05Cleveland's tale. And he is the one to beat, the best slope style rider

1:03:05 > 1:03:13we have at the moment. He won the gold two weeks ago. But Mark

1:03:13 > 1:03:22McMorris and Max Parrot, few outsiders will get in the mix.

1:03:22 > 1:03:24outsiders will get in the mix.Shaun White isn't even doing slope style,

1:03:24 > 1:03:30he is focusing on the half pipe, so is the field more open than what it

1:03:30 > 1:03:33could have been?Over the four years we have seen amazing talent come

1:03:33 > 1:03:39through from these riders. It is a very stacked field. Mark McMorris

1:03:39 > 1:03:45came in third in Sochi, got the bronze. He had broken ribs at the

1:03:45 > 1:03:50time. So that is really impressive to have got that results. If you

1:03:50 > 1:03:54look at Mark McMorrisa over the last two years coming he has had some

1:03:54 > 1:04:02horrific injuries. He has broken his femur, broken ribs, massive crash

1:04:02 > 1:04:06when he knocked himself out and was in hospital. He is still here

1:04:06 > 1:04:11competing today for this goal, which I think is incredible. Marcus

1:04:11 > 1:04:17Cleveland, everybody knows is an amazing slope style rider. Max

1:04:17 > 1:04:22Parrot is more known for the big air events, but yesterday he put down a

1:04:22 > 1:04:28great run. It will be challenging. I don't think the fact that Sage is in

1:04:28 > 1:04:33here, he has been retired for a while, has any effect on how

1:04:33 > 1:04:42exciting this is going to be.Jenny, it is time for me to hand over to

1:04:42 > 1:04:45Tim, Edwards and athlete that didn't make it through to the final, but

1:04:45 > 1:04:58the most positive man in TeamGB, Nicholls.

1:05:04 > 1:05:10How are you feeling, Jamie, the dust has settled?I am feeling great

1:05:10 > 1:05:16today, much better than yesterday. Everything has sunk in.Positive

1:05:16 > 1:05:22response from the UK.It is amazing how much love and support there is

1:05:22 > 1:05:28from back home, it is brilliant. This is one of the most creative and

1:05:28 > 1:05:32challenging courses we have ever seen, not just that an Olympics. It

1:05:32 > 1:05:38is made up of six modules. This one, section five, two angled take-offs

1:05:38 > 1:05:46that will play a role. In section six, known as the money boot, the

1:05:46 > 1:05:52big, last jump, where the big money is one. You get a fantastic shot of

1:05:52 > 1:05:55it there, you can see the blue lines. This course is in pristine

1:05:55 > 1:06:08condition. This is the start list...

1:06:10 > 1:06:17Mons Roy 's Lynn and has a shoulder injury, he might be out. What you

1:06:17 > 1:06:25see looking at the start list, what stands out is you have four

1:06:25 > 1:06:30Canadians, four Canadians, Tim?It is incredible they have managed to

1:06:30 > 1:06:35come through and bring all four of those riders. Here are the judges

1:06:35 > 1:06:41who are charged with picking apart those runs.Six judges, panel one

1:06:41 > 1:06:46will be looking at features one and two and so on. Then three judges

1:06:46 > 1:06:53looking at the overall impression. How does the run all fit together,

1:06:53 > 1:06:58this is a subjective judged sport. 60% of the score comes from

1:06:58 > 1:07:03individual features. 40% comes from overall impression. That gives us a

1:07:03 > 1:07:09score of 100.

1:07:12 > 1:07:15score of 100. The format is three runs and it will be the best run

1:07:15 > 1:07:26that counts.Flow is a very important part. I held my hands up,

1:07:26 > 1:07:32what we thought were judging inconsistencies, but when we went

1:07:32 > 1:07:36and analysed it and had a good look at it, the judges are rewarding

1:07:36 > 1:07:41slope. They want to see good execution and the tricks done

1:07:41 > 1:07:46perfectly. Good height and amplitude on the tricks and they want to see

1:07:46 > 1:07:50it flowing. They want to cede the snowboarder is having fun riding

1:07:50 > 1:07:55down, not changing speed too much, taking the course in their stride.

1:07:55 > 1:08:06First rider ready to go, Nicholas Matson. The temperature is very

1:08:06 > 1:08:13cold, -7 bursting. Winding up into the gap about into the double King

1:08:13 > 1:08:25Grail.Riding switch, backwards, like writing with your

1:08:26 > 1:08:27like writing with your left hand, nobody doing the switch into the

1:08:27 > 1:08:36need backflip into the tractor seat. Integer number two. Just a little

1:08:36 > 1:08:45bit short, the wind is still gusting. Mostly crosswind. That is

1:08:45 > 1:08:50one of the gifts when these riders dropout is getting to see what they

1:08:50 > 1:08:56do offer the knuckle of the job. This'll be a score he will put in

1:08:56 > 1:09:02the digital trash bin.

1:09:05 > 1:09:08the digital trash bin. 270 out of the lips slide on the top rail. The

1:09:08 > 1:09:12tractor seat is part of the jittery, but we found yesterday it was one of

1:09:12 > 1:09:17the things that confuse us a little bit. The scoring isn't a big

1:09:17 > 1:09:22differential on the tractor seat, it's not counting. Less than three

1:09:22 > 1:09:25points difference between a bigger scores and the lower scores on that

1:09:25 > 1:09:30obstacle.

1:09:31 > 1:09:37obstacle. So, 31 from the individual sections, 7.3 of the overall gives

1:09:37 > 1:09:50Niklas Mattsson a score of 38.40 three. The next

1:09:50 > 1:09:56three. The next rider in is Seppi Smits. The riders have these

1:09:56 > 1:10:04brilliant internal speedometers. And Seppe Smits in practice felt it

1:10:04 > 1:10:10wasn't going quite fast enough. So, first, front side boards slide was

1:10:10 > 1:10:19textbook. He switched, backside 270 catching the rail between his legs.

1:10:19 > 1:10:26My son composed between the rails and he is looking really solid. This

1:10:26 > 1:10:31is a nice tidy start from the Belgian. He is making it look very

1:10:31 > 1:10:40slow. Almost double dip in that. That was the second kick he

1:10:40 > 1:10:52struggled on in practice. We have seen two mistakes on that now. You

1:10:52 > 1:10:55can see Seppe Smits is raising his hands, the wind is howling out with

1:10:55 > 1:11:03a second job. Lovely style on the 270 out.Such a shame, the wind got

1:11:03 > 1:11:12him bad. He will take that one. There will be a haematoma creeping

1:11:12 > 1:11:19up on his head by the end of the night. So Seppe Smits, the Belgian

1:11:19 > 1:11:24will be relying on his second and third run to find the best score,

1:11:24 > 1:11:27but he is the current world champion and he can ride on difficult world

1:11:27 > 1:11:34causes.Next in, one of the biggest names in terms of anaesthetics in

1:11:34 > 1:11:46snowboarding. There is the competition side and then the

1:11:46 > 1:11:54filming and competition side. We'll see what he can bring here. You can

1:11:54 > 1:11:59see nice, good flow through this section from Torgeir Bergrem. Just

1:11:59 > 1:12:07slowing down, not switching the board around.

1:12:07 > 1:12:15board around. 181, 360. Liberal hand drag. Front side spin here.

1:12:15 > 1:12:19Frontside 900.Little square on the landing. Just made it over the

1:12:19 > 1:12:29knuckle. Get his money 's worth into the bottom. Now, final jump. A

1:12:29 > 1:12:36little reverb as he landed, he went round 180.The judges will have

1:12:36 > 1:12:40marked that. For the judges now and we always say this, on a course like

1:12:40 > 1:12:45this it comes up even more. The judges are looking for an excuse.

1:12:45 > 1:12:51The moment you offer them one, they will take it.Absolutely, such is

1:12:51 > 1:12:54the level of snowboarding now, if all these guys put their runs down

1:12:54 > 1:13:01you would be splitting has. It would be, I don't like the colour of his

1:13:01 > 1:13:05coat.Of course it wouldn't, but you are right, the judges need an excuse

1:13:05 > 1:13:16and that is it there. He shrugs, he knows. I just want to go quickly

1:13:16 > 1:13:21back to Seppe Smits's run. He was lining it up perfectly, he is one of

1:13:21 > 1:13:26the most experienced competitors?He is a consistent snowboarder and the

1:13:26 > 1:13:32current world champion. It is such a shame, when the wind is so strong on

1:13:32 > 1:13:36the second jump, it is difficult to play. He has another two runs, I am

1:13:36 > 1:13:43sure he will get it.Next in, the first of the Canadians, the two

1:13:43 > 1:13:48superpowers of snowboarder slope style, Canada. Tyler Nicholson put

1:13:48 > 1:13:54down a very nice run to qualify yesterday. The thing with the

1:13:54 > 1:13:58Canadians, for spaces but probably eight riders that could fill those

1:13:58 > 1:14:03spaces. Eyebrows were raised when Tyler Nicholson's name appeared on

1:14:03 > 1:14:11the team sheet. He is using the easier, right-hand side of the

1:14:11 > 1:14:19obstacle. Brings it back to the middle with the double-click rail.

1:14:20 > 1:14:26Getting a lot of bang for his buck. You could hear him. The first of the

1:14:26 > 1:14:32jobs, pretty straight, double cork, really nice double Cork ten, left

1:14:32 > 1:14:39the last 360 so late. Switch, backside 1260.The same thing as

1:14:39 > 1:14:44happened yesterday, bouncing out of the front door of the nose.To the

1:14:44 > 1:14:47happy penguin, he's gone down the front of that and he will be fine,

1:14:47 > 1:14:52maybe a bit of snow down his pants. That is one of the most technical

1:14:52 > 1:14:57tricks we see in the rail section, if you isolated them as individual

1:14:57 > 1:15:03tricks.It is the switch on the top rail, the switchback.Unbelievable.

1:15:03 > 1:15:09Just a bit sketchy, he did not ride the whole rail on the second feature

1:15:09 > 1:15:13but the riders, strategy wise, Jamie, it looks like Seppe Smits was

1:15:13 > 1:15:17looking for a really basic run, a foundation run. Do you think that is

1:15:17 > 1:15:22what most riders will be doing or will you see some just sending it

1:15:22 > 1:15:26first up?I think you will see, especially like Cleveland, I can't

1:15:26 > 1:15:29imagine him doing a mellow run, I can imagine him sending it from the

1:15:29 > 1:15:34start. He will be thinking, "I have three runs and an opportunity to get

1:15:34 > 1:15:43on the podium". He

1:15:43 > 1:15:45on the podium". He will want it.If you know you got the firepower, why

1:15:45 > 1:15:48not scare everybody?Exactly, you might as well go all in on the first

1:15:48 > 1:15:51run.Healy comes in his third Olympics, one of the most stylish

1:15:51 > 1:15:55snowboarders in the world, battling some really difficult injuries back

1:15:55 > 1:16:02at the end of 2016 but he has come back very powerfully in 2018. He

1:16:02 > 1:16:07looks so comfortable on this course. He really does and pulled it out of

1:16:07 > 1:16:12the bag and when we spoke about flow, this guy is liquid

1:16:12 > 1:16:15snowboarding. He goes down this caused the same way a bowling ball

1:16:15 > 1:16:19would, if you just let it go, it would find a natural route and that

1:16:19 > 1:16:25is exactly how Staale Sandbech snowboards. He's mixing it up every

1:16:25 > 1:16:28time, we are seeing something different every time.Topside for

1:16:28 > 1:16:35Dean. Cranking the four full rotations, not the cleanest of

1:16:35 > 1:16:38landings.LAUGHTER And there is the style, a backside

1:16:38 > 1:16:48180, tucking it up.The slowest half gap we have seen, switch 180 to

1:16:48 > 1:16:51finish, the defending silver champion putting in a run but not

1:16:51 > 1:16:55without mistakes.Exactly what we just talked about, are you going to

1:16:55 > 1:17:00come out and lay down a marker, or are you going to go berserk? Staale

1:17:00 > 1:17:06Sandbech wanted to go berserk.He did.Definitely.He got some pop out

1:17:06 > 1:17:12of this.He is so good at snowboarding on everything, even

1:17:12 > 1:17:20pipe.That is what he competed in, in 2010.Silver medallist.With a

1:17:20 > 1:17:24half a foot long Mohican if I remember rightly.Just not getting

1:17:24 > 1:17:30the full rotation, there. There we see the world's slowest switch 180,

1:17:30 > 1:17:33that would have felt like time standing still while he was up

1:17:33 > 1:17:43there!It is so windy, you can hear him saying it. Really challenging.

1:17:43 > 1:17:47It becomes critical because the experience of riders like Sebastien

1:17:47 > 1:17:53Toutant, Seppe Smits and Staale Sandbech comes to the fore. I tell

1:17:53 > 1:17:58you what, low centre of gravity and really, really strong, inertia could

1:17:58 > 1:18:04played to Sebastien Toutant's strengths.Backside 180 on and then

1:18:04 > 1:18:08the wrong way backside 180 off, chucking in the heave Ho and then

1:18:08 > 1:18:12through the king. He's come off earlier that will cost him, normally

1:18:12 > 1:18:16such a strong rail rider. He is normally really strong but he will

1:18:16 > 1:18:23get it.One of the few big competition riders who as a

1:18:23 > 1:18:30legitimate street part.He is still going for it, though.12, well, no

1:18:30 > 1:18:36more, it 11.30 six.As soon as you get the headwind, you can see it on

1:18:36 > 1:18:40the flags blowing upwards, it is difficult. What is phenomenal is the

1:18:40 > 1:18:47riders are still rolling the dice knowing that.Yeah! We saw yesterday

1:18:47 > 1:18:50in qualifying, it was gusty, one rider would have a run when it was

1:18:50 > 1:18:56not so windy and that the next rider would overshoot the jumps. Like you

1:18:56 > 1:19:00say, they've got to roll the dice.I mean it is hard to control something

1:19:00 > 1:19:03you can't control, like if the wind is blowing and you just have to go

1:19:03 > 1:19:10for it either way. That is the most important factor, isn't it? Everyone

1:19:10 > 1:19:17is dealing with it.Yeah, it's the same for everyone.I tell you what,

1:19:17 > 1:19:20yesterday, Mark McMorris and Max Parrot made it look like it was not

1:19:20 > 1:19:26windy.No, they just went for it, didn't they? Put it down.Sebastien

1:19:26 > 1:19:29Toutant saying the same, all of the riders are struggling with it. At

1:19:29 > 1:19:36the moment, Torgeir Bergrem's run is in first place but we have three

1:19:36 > 1:19:41runs, if you are just joining us, it is the first three runs and the

1:19:41 > 1:19:47men's snowboard slopestyle final. Next in, Red Gerard. He is one of

1:19:47 > 1:19:53the only Americans do following sage Koppenberg's footsteps. The

1:19:53 > 1:19:56Americans are so powerful and half pipe but they have fallen behind the

1:19:56 > 1:20:01Norwegians and Canadians in slopestyle. Red Gerard, the first

1:20:01 > 1:20:04really competitive American rider we have seen in a few years.Really

1:20:04 > 1:20:10nice line from them. Huge front side air up and overly hitching post,

1:20:10 > 1:20:15more like a goalpost as you called it, Eddie, really high, and then

1:20:15 > 1:20:19through the king, 360 off, really nice, really stylish. Oh, lovely.

1:20:19 > 1:20:25Showing the control. Almost the snowboard equivalent of the last air

1:20:25 > 1:20:31Bender.Interestingly, he's started sucking up, one of the smallest

1:20:31 > 1:20:36riders so he will suffer with speed the most.Trying to keep as a

1:20:36 > 1:20:41dynamic as he can.Smart move, very smart move, rather than trying to go

1:20:41 > 1:20:45the whole distance over the top. He did not even have enough speed to

1:20:45 > 1:20:51get over that.Such a shame! Most of the guys already that have dropped

1:20:51 > 1:20:56in, they have all felt it.The funny thing is, we sat in the commentary

1:20:56 > 1:20:59box during practice this morning and everyone was riding, there's speed

1:20:59 > 1:21:07was there. I think the wind has come in.The contest director has got a

1:21:07 > 1:21:11decision to make very soon as to whether or not they can carry on

1:21:11 > 1:21:16this contest. What is the protocol once the riders dropped down and

1:21:16 > 1:21:24have started?I've got no idea! First jump off the skewed take off.

1:21:24 > 1:21:27Switchback 12, he got it but he was high on the landing, did not quite

1:21:27 > 1:21:33get the speed. The way the course is designed, you've got to land the

1:21:33 > 1:21:36first jump in the sweet spot, in the right position because that is the

1:21:36 > 1:21:43speed you need to take you over the next two jumps.Yeah.Now the

1:21:43 > 1:21:47surprise package, Carlos Garcia Knight coming out of New Zealand.

1:21:47 > 1:21:51Well, he is only a surprise package if you have not been watching the

1:21:51 > 1:21:57results.That is true!Where he rides, he's incredibly consistent.

1:21:57 > 1:22:04New Zealand has got an airbag fitted outside of the back of good runner

1:22:04 > 1:22:08and Carlos and his team-mate Deanne Collins were able to use that to

1:22:08 > 1:22:12great effect. Love that rail trick, so hard, going into the flat section

1:22:12 > 1:22:21of the King. -- kink. A Miller flip onto the centre of the track. He is

1:22:21 > 1:22:28making this look really effortless. Looking at the flags, he's almost

1:22:28 > 1:22:31got a tailwind, he's gone really deep into the transition. Second

1:22:31 > 1:22:39jump. Huge backside 12. Wind assisted through here.Back-to-back

1:22:39 > 1:22:4412s yesterday, will it be that they today?Oh, my goodness, first place,

1:22:44 > 1:22:50the gods were with him.Wow.A shift in the wind direction and you can

1:22:50 > 1:22:55see what has happened.I tell you what is fascinating, when you look

1:22:55 > 1:22:58at the New Zealand slopestyle team, they have almost completely rebuilt

1:22:58 > 1:23:03it since Sochi and the talent they have produced in Collins, Carlos

1:23:03 > 1:23:08Garcia Knight and later, Zoe Sadowski Sinnott in the women's is

1:23:08 > 1:23:12phenomenal. But Carlos Garcia Knight, say hello to the big-time.

1:23:12 > 1:23:17This kid has announced himself on the biggest stage.Rocking the air,

1:23:17 > 1:23:22the roast beef and chicken salad. The little homage to the roast

1:23:22 > 1:23:25dinner, that is the name of the grab if you place your back and between

1:23:25 > 1:23:30your feet on the heel edge, it is called the roast beef grab.Perfect

1:23:30 > 1:23:35landing, straight down, hardly even... Look how much it means to

1:23:35 > 1:23:41him!That will be a good score. Will be really good, tidy run, really

1:23:41 > 1:23:51good flow. Look at that, I 70s. 78.6, 20 points daylight, just shy,

1:23:51 > 1:23:5619.8 between Carlos Garcia Knight and Torgeir Bergrem. So the heat is

1:23:56 > 1:24:06on. Time to capture the dream. This man is the fairy tale. Road in Sochi

1:24:06 > 1:24:11with a broken rib and still took the bronze medal. He's had two

1:24:11 > 1:24:15horrendous injuries, breaking his femur in 2016 and his humorous, his

1:24:15 > 1:24:21jaw and his ribs in 2017. But he is still at the very top of the sport.

1:24:21 > 1:24:28He has battled his way back. This is the first three runs.Super good

1:24:28 > 1:24:34flow through the first two sections. Really nice from him, then a huge

1:24:34 > 1:24:38gap 270. Couldn't get it. Uncharacteristic mistake.

1:24:38 > 1:24:49Absolutely. He will make this look so easy now. So, switchback said

1:24:49 > 1:24:551260 on jump one, jump two, double Cork front 1080. Three rotations,

1:24:55 > 1:25:01upside down twice during that and he's going for it. Oh, my goodness,

1:25:01 > 1:25:06yes!You could see the way the arms open up on the last take-off, he

1:25:06 > 1:25:10grabbed for everything he had, tucked in and the first 1440 of the

1:25:10 > 1:25:16finals has gone down.Triple grab. Was this a mistake?It's hard to

1:25:16 > 1:25:23tell. I'm not sure, really not sure because he has switched it up now.

1:25:23 > 1:25:29That is a mistake, for sure. Definitely.It's worth pointing out

1:25:29 > 1:25:36the gap is huge.Yeah, massive.Love the switch backside 1260, holding

1:25:36 > 1:25:40the grab for as long as possible, which shows the judges just how in

1:25:40 > 1:25:44control he is. A little touch of the snow? The judges don't like that.

1:25:44 > 1:25:52The frontside double. Locking the landing in.I love how he switches

1:25:52 > 1:25:56the grab. The front a double at the moment is the setup trick, isn't it?

1:25:56 > 1:26:00That is where he was going to push it for the second run now he's got

1:26:00 > 1:26:06it in the bag.He could go for a triple 14.Frontside 1080 double

1:26:06 > 1:26:15Cork becomes a frontside...Into the triple 14, and he did it before lots

1:26:15 > 1:26:22of times.Even with two mistakes, look at the score.75.3, he slots in

1:26:22 > 1:26:28just behind Carlos Garcia Knight in second. Now we come in for the

1:26:28 > 1:26:36Norwegian, Marcus Kleveland. He has ended three slopestyle contests this

1:26:36 > 1:26:39year and won three slopestyle contests this year. There is no one

1:26:39 > 1:26:46in the world better than Marcus Kleveland on paper. You jinxed him

1:26:46 > 1:26:52because he caught his tail as he did the 270 do that. Did not seem to

1:26:52 > 1:26:59affect him. Oh, and again! Do you think he meant that? The 270 out of

1:26:59 > 1:27:04the box was new. That gap to the backside.Watch this, that is my

1:27:04 > 1:27:11favourite bit.Nice butter, setting him up, drop in switch now.Front

1:27:11 > 1:27:18ten.Switch backside 1080, just tucking in for the wind. Having to

1:27:18 > 1:27:22open up on the 1260 to stop the rotation. Now speed is his friend.

1:27:22 > 1:27:28Has he got the triple?

1:27:28 > 1:27:31Has he got the triple?Orange Graco 1620! The biggest spin we have seen

1:27:31 > 1:27:36so far at the Phoenix park. Marcus Kleveland does exactly what Jamie

1:27:36 > 1:27:42Nicholls called and he comes out plans blazing first run. -- guns

1:27:42 > 1:27:46blazing.Great shot from the helicopter, there. Little mistake

1:27:46 > 1:27:51which might affect his close call.I have a feeling the way he opened up

1:27:51 > 1:27:57the carb 12, I think he was testing for the 16. Like he did at the X

1:27:57 > 1:28:02games.

1:28:03 > 1:28:10games.Here we go, switchback said. Wow.Switch backside 1620, four and

1:28:10 > 1:28:16a half rotations.Wow!Qualification is getting put in perspective now.

1:28:16 > 1:28:20We have gone up through the gears. I thought we were in fourth gear

1:28:20 > 1:28:25yesterday and we might get into fifth. Now it feels more like we

1:28:25 > 1:28:29were in second yesterday and now we are in third or fourth. 77.6, the

1:28:29 > 1:28:34mistake up top has cost him. Again, we are getting a good indication

1:28:34 > 1:28:37from the judges they are prioritising cleanliness is next to

1:28:37 > 1:28:44godliness. So Max Parrot, so many people had written him off as a big

1:28:44 > 1:28:48air riding was coming in, not to make up the numbers in slopestyle

1:28:48 > 1:28:52but possibly not to challenge for gold but he proved everybody Robyn

1:28:52 > 1:28:56qualifying yesterday. He was the first place to qualify up and now he

1:28:56 > 1:29:00has a point to prove. -- everybody wrong in qualifying. Has been known

1:29:00 > 1:29:05as a big jump rider but he has added the rails and the course seemed to

1:29:05 > 1:29:09suit him.Qualifying first yesterday as unable to the luxury of dropping

1:29:09 > 1:29:18in last and you can see hard way to 70. On the first rail. -- 270. Then

1:29:18 > 1:29:24a backside 360, locking in the grind and then 180 out, really technical.

1:29:24 > 1:29:29Did not kiss the rail, got it perfectly.Playing with fire on the

1:29:29 > 1:29:33rails and normally he would be all over that but I don't think he will

1:29:33 > 1:29:39have the speed. He's going for it. Just coming up a bit short. He needs

1:29:39 > 1:29:47to channel his inner speed demon cor.There you go.Oh!It is a big

1:29:47 > 1:29:53hit.That was huge.He went for the triple, regardless but the speed was

1:29:53 > 1:29:58not there on the start but he still went for the triple. He knew Marcus

1:29:58 > 1:30:02Kleveland and Mark McMorris had made mistakes and it was his chance to

1:30:02 > 1:30:07really send it and get a score in front. That is beautiful.Comes up

1:30:07 > 1:30:13short.Definitely going for it which is good to see in the first run.

1:30:13 > 1:30:19Obviously the crashes where it gets picked apart. We have got a

1:30:19 > 1:30:24competition on our hands, boys!A heavy hit. He's lucky to ride away

1:30:24 > 1:30:31from that.Glad he's OK.You say that but one of the snowboard

1:30:31 > 1:30:34journalist describes him as the terminator! I think he's fine

1:30:34 > 1:30:44landing like that to be honest. He's made of stern stuff.

1:30:47 > 1:30:57They have three runs. Those are the leaders at the moment.

1:30:57 > 1:31:00leaders at the moment. But the Kiwi. I don't think he played it safe,

1:31:00 > 1:31:06that was the run we saw from him in qualify yesterday. He has the best

1:31:06 > 1:31:15platform he can really start to build and push this. Redmond Gerard.

1:31:21 > 1:31:28Just 11 riders in the final today. And the wind is certainly playing

1:31:28 > 1:31:36its part. Snow temperature, minus 18. Wind speed says seven col

1:31:36 > 1:31:44mutters, that is maybe the average, the problem is it is gusting. Also,

1:31:44 > 1:31:50it said the snow conditions were hard packed. I think that is South

1:31:50 > 1:31:55Korean translation for bullet-proof. There is not much give, is there

1:31:55 > 1:32:04Jamie?To be honest, I don't mind it.You like it, don't you?It is

1:32:04 > 1:32:09nice to ride on.I don't know why. How difficult is this course, we

1:32:09 > 1:32:14have spoken about how good it looks, but how difficult is it to ride this

1:32:14 > 1:32:19course?It is difficult, but enjoyable, it is one of the best

1:32:19 > 1:32:22courses I have ever ridden. So much fun and creativity and I love the

1:32:22 > 1:32:28rails.

1:32:28 > 1:32:32rails.OK, finals run is about to step up. We have talked about it a

1:32:32 > 1:32:38lot, the judging is going to be critical here isn't it? They have so

1:32:38 > 1:32:43many options and you said you love the rail sections but so many

1:32:43 > 1:32:46options at the top. If it's not working for you, how many of these

1:32:46 > 1:32:52riders have the ability to mix it up and try something else? Will we see

1:32:52 > 1:32:57completely different rail runs if someone lands what they want?It is

1:32:57 > 1:33:02a big move to do something you have not tried in practice already,

1:33:02 > 1:33:07especially on the rails. They fit like many other guys, obviously they

1:33:07 > 1:33:10know the jumps, they write them all the time and if they can do a trick

1:33:10 > 1:33:14on the job likely saw Marcus Cleveland, he was almost looking

1:33:14 > 1:33:22like he was go and catch a ball. But on the rails, because they are

1:33:22 > 1:33:27different all the time, you have got to practice those tricks. We did see

1:33:27 > 1:33:36little changes in the rails from Mark McMorris and Marcus Cleveland?

1:33:36 > 1:33:44I would love

1:33:51 > 1:33:58to see him lock it in. He has the ability to spin in all directions

1:33:58 > 1:34:01and that is not something we have touched on. The judges like this

1:34:01 > 1:34:06either riders. You get penalised for spinning in the same direction so

1:34:06 > 1:34:13the judges like to see variety. You have backside and side. Inside you

1:34:13 > 1:34:17open your body up to the front side of the landing and them backside,

1:34:17 > 1:34:22you turn your body on it. When you approach the jump backwards, you can

1:34:22 > 1:34:30open up. Switch frontside is when we often revert it as. Named after

1:34:30 > 1:34:40Steve Caballero.

1:34:43 > 1:34:47Niklas Mattsson, the first to drop for the second runs. He has the

1:34:47 > 1:34:52firepower on the jumps and is very creative on the rails.270 out,

1:34:52 > 1:34:59riding switch. Misses out a lot of those features to get the huge

1:34:59 > 1:35:15switch three Cisse 60 -- switch 360. He is absolutely flying down this

1:35:15 > 1:35:23course, speed is his friend here. Here we go.Frontside nine, whether

1:35:23 > 1:35:29or not the wind played its part there.Oh my goodness, that was

1:35:29 > 1:35:35beautiful. He slowed back down and realised how big he had gone. The

1:35:35 > 1:35:39spatial awareness it takes to do that. He is one of the quietest

1:35:39 > 1:35:45riders body has the respect of everyone because he has that

1:35:45 > 1:35:50incredible still. He slowed it down by still grabbing. Some guys slowed

1:35:50 > 1:35:57by opening up but he slowed down by grabbing. Amazing. One of the things

1:35:57 > 1:36:00that is very interesting, if we get the skewed take of some of the

1:36:00 > 1:36:07judges were talking yesterday and they said even if those take-offs...

1:36:07 > 1:36:12Here it is. Perfect. Little handwrite, if you want to pick it

1:36:12 > 1:36:23apart. I went freeriding, I say with him...You chased him.I chased him

1:36:23 > 1:36:27back in January, his natural skill is phenomenal, he is brilliantly

1:36:27 > 1:36:32talented. As are all these riders, but when you see it in the flesh, it

1:36:32 > 1:36:40was effortless.He needs to up that 900 and the second jump.He was

1:36:40 > 1:36:52claiming it there, he said next one. He needs to up that 900.OK, Seppi

1:36:52 > 1:36:58Smits, reigning Slopestyle world champion hasn't made it over. He was

1:36:58 > 1:37:02unable to make it over in his first run so can he get rid of the who do

1:37:02 > 1:37:11on his second run? He comes off the rainbow early to catch a transition

1:37:11 > 1:37:16with sets him up for the down well. It gives him the speed for the huge

1:37:16 > 1:37:25270 that we just saw. Off the tractor seat. Very nice. Talk and

1:37:25 > 1:37:32roll. Speed is your friend, you cannot get hurt in the air. Switch

1:37:32 > 1:37:35backside 1080. Gone really deep, wind-up and is clearing it this

1:37:35 > 1:37:49time. What has he got on the last kicker?

1:37:49 > 1:37:53kicker? Light on the kickers, but a really good, clean run. I would say

1:37:53 > 1:37:58the cleanest we have seen after Carlos Garcia Knight.Very fair to

1:37:58 > 1:38:05say.He lands very late on the rail, that is the one standout but how

1:38:05 > 1:38:10likely is he on these kickers? That is a replay of Niklas Mattsson from

1:38:10 > 1:38:14the run before. The director obviously likes the look above.

1:38:14 > 1:38:25There he back again. So light on the jumps, you are right. The third and

1:38:25 > 1:38:29final jump is called the money boot for good reasons. When we talk about

1:38:29 > 1:38:38the tricks, the higher the number, the better it will score. We have

1:38:38 > 1:38:43seen from Marcus Cleveland, 1620 and he is three off the pace. He has got

1:38:43 > 1:38:51to really step that up and a good conundrum for the judges. We said

1:38:51 > 1:39:04cleanliness was getting rewarded. A fair score their the Seppe Smits.

1:39:12 > 1:39:26Torgeir Bergrem, really damaged his elbow early in the season. He is the

1:39:26 > 1:39:29Jimmy White of snowboarding. He is there or thereabouts but has never

1:39:29 > 1:39:37won anything matter. He is always top five material but he very rarely

1:39:37 > 1:39:43gets on the podium. Is he going to prove us wrong here? Nice, you can

1:39:43 > 1:39:49see him relaxing into this run.

1:39:49 > 1:39:50see him relaxing into this run. One, 23, frontside 1080. Keep your eye on

1:39:50 > 1:39:58the wind socks. There is three and a half. 1260, he needs a big trick,

1:39:58 > 1:40:05Torgeir Bergrem.He wants to send theirs. Beautiful, 1260 on the

1:40:05 > 1:40:10finish. I think he could have taken it to 14.He definitely has that in

1:40:10 > 1:40:17him.I think he will watch this back and realise he missed a chance. That

1:40:17 > 1:40:24was a clean run.It was very clean, I think it was the most technical

1:40:24 > 1:40:31run we have seen clean, start to finish.Yes, I think so.I think the

1:40:31 > 1:40:39first 1080 will be his let down. Look at the height you get, when you

1:40:39 > 1:40:47see them over the knuckle of the landing. He opened up 270, wasn't

1:40:47 > 1:40:54into the landing, plenty of time to take that up, as you said.Yes.

1:40:54 > 1:41:02Enjoying himself. There was talk yesterday his qualifying run

1:41:02 > 1:41:06contained the snowboarding equivalent of the hand of God. He

1:41:06 > 1:41:16got away with and under rotated landing.

1:41:16 > 1:41:22landing. Maybe a little light at the top on the rails. See if we can

1:41:22 > 1:41:30gauge that. Very tidy. Currently he slots into third place behind

1:41:30 > 1:41:34countryman, Marcus Kleveland. Carlos Garcia Knight, the New Zealander

1:41:34 > 1:41:39sitting very pretty at the top of the standings. Is Canada's Tyler

1:41:39 > 1:41:45Nicholson.

1:41:45 > 1:41:49Nicholson. Coming off an ACL injury in March. It is a recovery that can

1:41:49 > 1:41:55take anything between six and nine months. The switchback flip side to

1:41:55 > 1:42:02open the account.

1:42:02 > 1:42:09open the account. Onto the double kink rail.Really nice. One of the

1:42:09 > 1:42:13first we have seen to actually clean the whole rail from start to finish.

1:42:13 > 1:42:20Jump number one.The judges will have noticed on the kicker he didn't

1:42:20 > 1:42:27use the skew, he used it almost like a straight kicker. Manages to keep

1:42:27 > 1:42:39his hands just off the snow.1080. Keeping it safe.Seem to hang in the

1:42:39 > 1:42:47air on the bottom 1080, three rotations.He could have got a front

1:42:47 > 1:42:5114 on the end, because he has done it in practice. He is probably

1:42:51 > 1:42:59thinking, get one down, then the last run.Score on the board.First

1:42:59 > 1:43:04run, everybody sounded a little bit, second run feels like an insurance

1:43:04 > 1:43:13policy.Then they will be taking their seats back within 28 days for

1:43:13 > 1:43:22a full refund. So, Tyler Nicholson, boyfriend of the reigning Olympic

1:43:22 > 1:43:26champion Jamie Anderson in Slopestyle. She won the gold medal

1:43:26 > 1:43:32in Sochi. They train regularly together. Jamie will be in action

1:43:32 > 1:43:36this afternoon. It will be a busy day in the Nicholson, Anderson

1:43:36 > 1:43:43households.The Canadian coaches, it Jamie, interesting to see. He landed

1:43:43 > 1:43:49the bottom jump, it was perfect, grabbed perfectly. Into third place

1:43:49 > 1:43:53with 76.41 but it is a heavy landing and his hand slapped the snow. What

1:43:53 > 1:43:58did the judges think when they see that?It is hard to say. I don't

1:43:58 > 1:44:03really know, it is a difficult one. He wasn't keeping himself above the

1:44:03 > 1:44:12I guess.

1:44:12 > 1:44:19I guess. This is style personified when it comes to snowboarding. He

1:44:19 > 1:44:23was wearing a thick jacket yesterday but has stripped it down I think

1:44:23 > 1:44:30aerodynamics have come into play.He has such good style.The controller

1:44:30 > 1:44:39requires to search up on that end rail.Really nice. Look playful he

1:44:39 > 1:44:46is making this look.He went a little bit bigger first run. On the

1:44:46 > 1:44:50pyramid through the bowl, but into the kickers. This is where it starts

1:44:50 > 1:45:00to count. Frontside 1440.He held on.

1:45:01 > 1:45:07Backside 12.Absolutely massive!

1:45:08 > 1:45:13Huge 1260 at the bottom, so frontside 14, back-to-back 1260s for

1:45:13 > 1:45:20the man from Norway. It looked like he was wrestling an invisible bear

1:45:20 > 1:45:25as he did the 1440 but apart from that it was nearly perfect.Such a

1:45:25 > 1:45:35shame, we could have seen the new leader if the 1440 had been cleaner.

1:45:35 > 1:45:38Technicality compare to Carlos Garcia Knight's run was way higher

1:45:38 > 1:45:44but again we come back down to the debate, Torgeir Bergrem did fall

1:45:44 > 1:45:48foul of that, Marcus Kleveland, Mark McMorris, all small mistakes but

1:45:48 > 1:45:56more technical runs.So much style on the cab 12.It was the fact the

1:45:56 > 1:45:59cameraman was not very zoomed in, there was lots of daylight between

1:45:59 > 1:46:03Staale and the snow and you still couldn't see the ground.Try not to

1:46:03 > 1:46:08look into his eyes, you will get lost as we wait for the scores to

1:46:08 > 1:46:11come in. He is a man never far from a smile, you see him around

1:46:11 > 1:46:19practice. Wow! Huge score!Staale Sandbech moves up into gold medal

1:46:19 > 1:46:26position. Midway through the second runs at Phoenix park. 81.01, just

1:46:26 > 1:46:30ahead of Carlos Garcia Knight of New Zealand, fellow countryman Marcus

1:46:30 > 1:46:36Kleveland moving down into third. Next up, Sebastien Toutant. So

1:46:36 > 1:46:41experienced.

1:46:42 > 1:46:44experienced.This man won't have a lot of room left in his sock drawer

1:46:44 > 1:46:47for a gold medal but I tell you what, he will definitely make room

1:46:47 > 1:46:56for it, the veteran wants this. And that is beautiful, over cranked.

1:46:56 > 1:47:02That is a hard trick.Lovely, there is a thing in snowboarding called

1:47:02 > 1:47:07after bang which is the way you come out of tricks and he just pops out

1:47:07 > 1:47:10of the rails so cleanly.

1:47:15 > 1:47:19Cutting quite a straight line on the birds 1260 which he made looked like

1:47:19 > 1:47:28a 900. -- on the first 1260. He had to open up.This is another

1:47:28 > 1:47:35insurance policy run.A triple?I say that! Over rotating.Had plenty

1:47:35 > 1:47:43of time on that. With the second run, the wind is playing ball for

1:47:43 > 1:47:52us.It is, there. The rails were perfect. That is the 1260. Really,

1:47:52 > 1:47:59really ripping it on the take-off. Yeah. You can see the board bending

1:47:59 > 1:48:02under the grab, the Flex, how strong, a vice like grip on the

1:48:02 > 1:48:10nose.The board wobbled as he let go.Frontside triple that we saw him

1:48:10 > 1:48:17do in practice but it slip through his fingers. That is massive from

1:48:17 > 1:48:26that angle.Yeah, really big.He will know for the next one.

1:48:26 > 1:48:31Sebastien Toutant currently sat in tenth place has it all to do. If

1:48:31 > 1:48:35third and final run to come. He is certainly got the tricks but there's

1:48:35 > 1:48:40no doubt about that whatsoever. It's a question of whether he can lay

1:48:40 > 1:48:47them down with his third and final run. Second run here in the men's

1:48:47 > 1:48:51slopestyle final for the American protege, Red Gerard. Burst onto the

1:48:51 > 1:48:57scene aged 11, with an incredible video bar and he has slowly been

1:48:57 > 1:49:02building to this point. We have watched the boy become a man in

1:49:02 > 1:49:07front of our eyes. This is the biggest ST has faced yet.360 off

1:49:07 > 1:49:12the down bar. This rhyme really nice, huge frontside grab over the

1:49:12 > 1:49:17hitching post.

1:49:18 > 1:49:21hitching post. Nice grind through the kink on to tail slide and then

1:49:21 > 1:49:28270 out.A tap with the nose, so precise. But it is stopping him debt

1:49:28 > 1:49:32and he needs to keep the flow going on this run, he needs the speed.

1:49:32 > 1:49:39Switch backside 12 from him last time.Switch backside nine.He

1:49:39 > 1:49:44doesn't have heavy enough bows to make the speed.Definite speed,

1:49:44 > 1:49:50there.Too big.He needed to take off further up, the way the riders

1:49:50 > 1:49:54get judged in comparison to that, the first rider we have seen taking

1:49:54 > 1:50:00off the said transitions of that second kicker. -- said transitions.

1:50:00 > 1:50:08He has hurt his back. But the judges need to see the riders take off as

1:50:08 > 1:50:13far back as possible. We saw it yesterday, a frontside 540, going up

1:50:13 > 1:50:21against your 1260 but you are only separated by a point.Exactly so

1:50:21 > 1:50:24they are scoring side take-offs quite well so if Eli is that, he

1:50:24 > 1:50:30will be well up there.Frontside 900.He knew he was going huge, he

1:50:30 > 1:50:34looked like he was still going up when he finished the double.

1:50:34 > 1:50:42Rewinding, trying to stall.I hope his back is OK.He will be jarred,

1:50:42 > 1:50:50for sure. Loosening his cavities. Reaching for his ribs. Now the man

1:50:50 > 1:50:53who was leading at the end of the first run, he has just been knocked

1:50:53 > 1:50:59off top spot. Staale Sandbech taking over. Can he regain it? We saw the

1:50:59 > 1:51:06run he pulled in qualifying but the big question is, where will he go?

1:51:06 > 1:51:10Yat back-to-back 1260s but add a half rotation, it sets you in a

1:51:10 > 1:51:14completely different way. Does he have the tricks to roll with those

1:51:14 > 1:51:17punches?But I love he is performing on the biggest stage and looks so

1:51:17 > 1:51:21relaxed. Does not look like the pressure is affecting him at all.

1:51:21 > 1:51:27No, he's loving this.I tell you who will be loving it? All of New

1:51:27 > 1:51:35Zealand will be going berserk! Now into the first jump.Using the angle

1:51:35 > 1:51:41of the take-off to fire him back into the centre of the landing.

1:51:41 > 1:51:46Front-end. Oh, backside five, quite unsure, there, the wind playing

1:51:46 > 1:51:52havoc.The internal speedometer was not registering where he wanted it

1:51:52 > 1:51:57but he is boxing clever. He's had to write the run off but you could say

1:51:57 > 1:52:01that is fair because everyone else on the first run got really done by

1:52:01 > 1:52:06the wind and it looked like he got away with it.It is almost like

1:52:06 > 1:52:16karma.Giving one run to the wind. That is a tongue twister!Yeah, you

1:52:16 > 1:52:21can see on the flag as he takes off. There will be nervous now though

1:52:21 > 1:52:26among the top three, when you start looking at Marcus Kleveland, Max

1:52:26 > 1:52:30Parrot and Mark McMorris, if they think the wind has come back up, all

1:52:30 > 1:52:35three of them suffered from the wind last time. You saw it perfectly in

1:52:35 > 1:52:38the back of the shot, that Winsock was fully horizontal, fully

1:52:38 > 1:52:48inflated, straight up the course. -- wind sock.52.98, Carlos Garcia

1:52:48 > 1:52:53Knight, taking down his first run school, there. He needs to clean up

1:52:53 > 1:52:59this run and you should see a considerable hike in the scores.

1:52:59 > 1:53:07What he's doing is good. Oh, really nice. So difficult. Tail slide 450

1:53:07 > 1:53:13and then kind of a wrong way air to normal on the hip.Looks

1:53:13 > 1:53:18uncharacteristically sketchy at the moment. It is always so perfect with

1:53:18 > 1:53:23Mark McMorris, we are used to seeing it flow for him and it's not at the

1:53:23 > 1:53:31moment, looks like he's forcing it. The alley up, spinning against the

1:53:31 > 1:53:37direction of the skewed kicker. Triple.Front treble, well held.He

1:53:37 > 1:53:46held on.Now the back treble?Yeah. Oh! Anything you can do, Marcus

1:53:46 > 1:53:53Kleveland, I can do.Wowsers.Can't do it better but he can do it.He's

1:53:53 > 1:53:58up to his game, you are right, Jamie, in the first run, he's got

1:53:58 > 1:54:02in, turned the corkscrew, up the second and third jump from the first

1:54:02 > 1:54:08run.But what is happening? I think Mark McMorris is really struggling,

1:54:08 > 1:54:13focusing on the kickers which is affecting his rail line.He came off

1:54:13 > 1:54:17the rail early last time, that is not perfect but he got to the end.

1:54:17 > 1:54:21It seems like the top rail has changed from yesterday, if he did

1:54:21 > 1:54:26the same top section as yesterday and did that again, it would be a

1:54:26 > 1:54:32super-clean run.That is one.The jobs were flawless.Really late

1:54:32 > 1:54:36caught on the first one. That is mad. This is the landing we have to

1:54:36 > 1:54:45look at.Just gone past but he held it.No hands.I think he has got

1:54:45 > 1:54:56some kind of Cranborne on his -- book on his heel edge.Backside

1:54:56 > 1:55:011620, for the month and dads out there, it is first place, 85.2.Wow,

1:55:01 > 1:55:05that is a good run but he could still clean it up even more. There's

1:55:05 > 1:55:11still room.Definitely, there were so many little issues with the rail

1:55:11 > 1:55:13section, certainly the kickers looked really good and there was one

1:55:13 > 1:55:17sketchy landing but the rails were far clean. The first one was nice

1:55:17 > 1:55:23but definitely, the others need cleaning up.Canada and Norway going

1:55:23 > 1:55:28toe to toe for gold at the moment and it continues as Marcus Kleveland

1:55:28 > 1:55:34stand at the top of the course. He learned the double cork at 11, the

1:55:34 > 1:55:41triple core at 13, was the third person to land a quad core at 17. --

1:55:41 > 1:55:52Cork. What has he got for us in this second?270 on and off, little

1:55:52 > 1:55:56mistake, aleey-oop on that, the flow school will be through the roof

1:55:56 > 1:56:00after that section. Looking good so far and does not seem to be affected

1:56:00 > 1:56:04by the pressure. He is absolutely drinking this in.

1:56:09 > 1:56:17Oh, he's gone! He's gone! Is dropped it!We so rarely see this. He was

1:56:17 > 1:56:23going for his little shifty trick on the end of that 540, wasn't he?That

1:56:23 > 1:56:29is amazing!LAUGHTER I love that.It shows the wizardry

1:56:29 > 1:56:34that Marcus Kleveland is capable of, we often see him doing enormous

1:56:34 > 1:56:37beans but when you start to slow things down from you get magic like

1:56:37 > 1:56:46that. Let's pull this about. That big gap to the down rail.Switch

1:56:46 > 1:56:50backside 1080, that was obviously supposed to be a 1260 but from the

1:56:50 > 1:56:58take-off, just did not have the speed. Just was not there. And you

1:56:58 > 1:57:05saw the Winsock again gaping like a basking shark.-- wind sock. Like

1:57:05 > 1:57:09Red Gerard is one of the smaller riders in terms of physique so he

1:57:09 > 1:57:14does not have the inertia. Mark McMorris, looking very happy at the

1:57:14 > 1:57:21moment but one rider left to drop in the second run Sturm at Phoenix

1:57:21 > 1:57:27park, Max Parrot. -- second runs at Phoenix park. The man dubbed the

1:57:27 > 1:57:35Terminator. He won X Games big air, didn't even make the finals of the

1:57:35 > 1:57:38slopestyle two weeks ago, but qualified first here for the

1:57:38 > 1:57:45Olympics.Lip slide on the first rail, throwing his board up and over

1:57:45 > 1:57:49the rail, very difficult to do, to not catch the board on the rail as

1:57:49 > 1:57:54you do it. Really technical, the judges will like that. 360 off the

1:57:54 > 1:58:04bar, looking very clean in the rail sections so far. First of the jumps.

1:58:04 > 1:58:08There is Warne, there's two, beautiful.Wow. There is that triple

1:58:08 > 1:58:17again.Oh, now absolute carbon copy of the first run!He just does not

1:58:17 > 1:58:24have the speed, there. Oh!He looked like he would have because he went

1:58:24 > 1:58:29so deep on the first one and had good speed, there. It was a good,

1:58:29 > 1:58:32solid landing but tucked up as soon as he came off the kicker. It's like

1:58:32 > 1:58:36he needs to pull in his legs a bit more on the end of that frontside

1:58:36 > 1:58:45triple.The rail is perfect, pretty much. That Condor set up trick.

1:58:45 > 1:58:53Rodeo nose grab.He rode it right off the top corner, as well. He's

1:58:53 > 1:58:57getting as much power and height as he can out of the kicker but it does

1:58:57 > 1:59:02not look high.He does not get the pop on it, it is such a hard trick

1:59:02 > 1:59:07to get the pop on and to do that, you've really got to explode off the

1:59:07 > 1:59:12lip. Really pop with your legs and he's not getting it.He works harder

1:59:12 > 1:59:17than anyone, though. He practices longer and he is such a

1:59:17 > 1:59:23perfectionist. Do not write off Max Parrot. Still one run left at the

1:59:23 > 1:59:27men's snowboard slopestyle finals. Mark McMorris currently in Gold

1:59:27 > 1:59:34medal position. Staale Sandbech of Norway in second and Carlos Garcia

1:59:34 > 1:59:38Knight, the second-place qualifier, rounding out the top three. It will

1:59:38 > 1:59:45be a cool head for him. I think he's just 18. It is an incredible

1:59:45 > 1:59:54position for him to be in at the moment. Sorry, 20.

2:00:06 > 2:00:12If you are watching this and expecting to see the men's Downhill,

2:00:12 > 2:00:17it has been postponed. It will go out on Thursday. Do not despair,

2:00:17 > 2:00:24there will still be an Olympic downhill. The fans here in Phoenix

2:00:24 > 2:00:28Park, really enjoying themselves. We've had an incredible show so far.

2:00:28 > 2:00:35The superpowers of snowboard Slopestyle going toe to toe. Former

2:00:35 > 2:00:47regions and for Canadians battling it out. The depth of talent, Jamie

2:00:47 > 2:00:52is amazing? Yes, they are all going for it and it is good for the sport.

2:00:52 > 2:00:56Tim, you were in Sochi four years ago, how far has this sport

2:00:56 > 2:01:03progressed in the period since? It has taken huge strides. When you

2:01:03 > 2:01:08think back to what we've seen the emergence of triple quartz. Now they

2:01:08 > 2:01:14are a staple part of everybody's run. It is back-to-back triples,

2:01:14 > 2:01:241620, in the big air a couple of weeks down the line, I hope we will

2:01:24 > 2:01:28see Quad Court, going upside down four times in a rotation. The sports

2:01:28 > 2:01:34of snowboarding is rising. Whether it is because of the Olympics,

2:01:34 > 2:01:39whether it is alongside the Olympics or what? It doesn't really matter.

2:01:39 > 2:01:44It is undoubtedly because of the Olympics. I believe in every Olympic

2:01:44 > 2:01:49cycle since snowboarding arrived at the Olympics 20 years ago in 1998,

2:01:49 > 2:01:54we have seen progression accelerate. The Olympics have driven progression

2:01:54 > 2:01:59in the sport. Certainly in terms of gymnastic aspect. But what is lovely

2:01:59 > 2:02:08to see, when you look down there, Staale Sandbech, he is so aesthetic.

2:02:08 > 2:02:14He will not do a trick unless he can make it look good. Also because a

2:02:14 > 2:02:20lot of these big tricks to be done, to apply the physics to them to be

2:02:20 > 2:02:23able to spin around four times and go upside down three times, they

2:02:23 > 2:02:31have to be done a certain way. Riders end up grabbing the board in

2:02:31 > 2:02:37the same way, releasing at the same point and looking the same. But

2:02:37 > 2:02:45Staale Sandbech, he will do anything unless he can do it his own way.

2:02:45 > 2:02:51Sage Koch and Berg did an incredibly technical trick but it was the hand

2:02:51 > 2:02:56grabbed he did within the trick that made it stand out. You have the mute

2:02:56 > 2:03:01grab the front hand between defeat on the toe edge and it is the Ford

2:03:01 > 2:03:09Mondeo of Snowboarding grabs. That is the best way for these riders to

2:03:09 > 2:03:16mix things up. I was disappointed not to see Kyle Mack go through

2:03:16 > 2:03:23yesterday, Jamie?He has some really creative grabs.

2:03:23 > 2:03:28creative grabs. He is doing the bloody dragon. The Lamborghini of

2:03:28 > 2:03:33grabs. Grabbing

2:03:33 > 2:03:38grabs. Grabbing both hands on the tail and pulling it up so it is

2:03:38 > 2:03:45dislocating your spine, it is a thing of beauty. There was a bit of

2:03:45 > 2:03:49chat in Sochi, about the judges and what they were going to prioritise.

2:03:49 > 2:03:53What we ended up seeing was judges rewarding creativity and it is one

2:03:53 > 2:03:58thing that has become a staple part of snowboarding judging and the

2:03:58 > 2:04:04course building, they want to see creativity.OK, you can see a packed

2:04:04 > 2:04:09house here at Phoenix Park. In the background you have the moguls

2:04:09 > 2:04:16course and just behind that is the aerials jump and

2:04:16 > 2:04:22aerials jump and under is the halfpipe. We have kicked things off

2:04:22 > 2:04:25with men's snowboard Slopestyle and that medal will be decided in the

2:04:25 > 2:04:34next 20 minutes.

2:04:34 > 2:04:41next 20 minutes.I really like that. If you are interested, the

2:04:41 > 2:04:46temperature is -18 and the air temperature is minus 13. The

2:04:46 > 2:04:50qualification yesterday was uncharacteristically warm. You guys

2:04:50 > 2:04:58trained in -20?The first day was -20 and then it started, each day

2:04:58 > 2:05:00leading up to qualifications, getting warmer and yesterday was the

2:05:00 > 2:05:06warmest day. Now it is freezing again. On its way back down. Niklas

2:05:06 > 2:05:10Mattsson will be the first rider to drop in the third and final run. He

2:05:10 > 2:05:22did call it, he said he was going... Carlos Garcia Knight. They have a

2:05:22 > 2:05:25little reshuffle, they drop in reverse order of the standings so

2:05:25 > 2:05:28Mark McMorris, I believe will be afforded the luxury of dropping in

2:05:28 > 2:05:35last.Carlos Garcia Knight, the manual are watching now, stood there

2:05:35 > 2:05:41with the New Zealand coaches.

2:05:46 > 2:05:54You can even, just do it like the first run. Wise words. Those guys

2:05:54 > 2:06:02will be so excited and desperately trying not to show it at the moment.

2:06:02 > 2:06:09Don't show it on the outside. Couple of inches away from a medal but with

2:06:09 > 2:06:15this level of talent, nothing is given at this stage. Marcus

2:06:15 > 2:06:21Kleveland, currently sat on 77.76 and has so far to go. The only rider

2:06:21 > 2:06:26here legitimately landing quad courts consistently.Absolutely, you

2:06:26 > 2:06:31are right coming he has so much more to give. So much further he can go

2:06:31 > 2:06:35with it. However, has he been in this position before? He is in

2:06:35 > 2:06:41uncharted territory. All of a sudden he finds himself in fourth position

2:06:41 > 2:06:45and he's thinking, I have got to do it now, the pressure is on.Love

2:06:45 > 2:06:54that shot, Max Parrot on the chairlift. Chilling out.

2:06:54 > 2:06:57chairlift. Chilling out. For me, Marcus Kleveland has been high

2:06:57 > 2:07:00school. Not just in the build-up to these Olympics, which he has, he has

2:07:00 > 2:07:09had a little show Billy two game of show and tell. Came second behind

2:07:09 > 2:07:13Max Parrot in the big air, but that preparation aside, his career, he

2:07:13 > 2:07:22has been so low-key about all of the world's firsts he has had. He has a

2:07:22 > 2:07:29tiny resort and he can get them to build anything he wants. He is a

2:07:29 > 2:07:35very unusual rider?He is very talent, I think he is a wizard on a

2:07:35 > 2:07:43snowboard. He can do anything he wants.Mark McMorris, the Canadian.

2:07:47 > 2:07:51Mark McMorris, the Canadian. You can see the wax worker there on Mark

2:07:51 > 2:07:55McMorris's boards. How difficult was it for the techs to get the waxes

2:07:55 > 2:07:58right for these snow conditions? It's actually - I think for them,

2:07:58 > 2:08:02it's easy to get the wax right. But it's just whether the wind's there.

2:08:02 > 2:08:07So there's nothing you can do about that. But the boards seem to - for

2:08:07 > 2:08:11me, my board was running absolutely perfect, and the snow conditions

2:08:11 > 2:08:18haven't really changed. So it's just cold snow, so hard wax...I heard

2:08:18 > 2:08:24people talking about, ah, ice burn on the bases...Yeah, my edges were

2:08:24 > 2:08:29really white all across the edges. And it was almost like I needed to

2:08:29 > 2:08:33take a second board up there just to switch onto during practice,

2:08:33 > 2:08:33especially,
