0:00:38 > 0:00:42Good morning, and if you're looking for some Monday morning inspiration,

0:00:42 > 0:00:47hopefully we can bring it to you from right here on day three of the

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. If this is the first time you have

0:00:50 > 0:00:54joined us, welcome to our balcony right in the heart of the Mountain

0:00:54 > 0:00:58Cluster at the Alpensia ski resort. Over the weekend, we've already had

0:00:58 > 0:01:04some in a big history with merit Bjorgen's 11th medal making her the

0:01:04 > 0:01:09most decorated female Olympian of all time. Also we have seen Andrew

0:01:09 > 0:01:16Musgrave in the cross-country skiing, seventh place in the

0:01:16 > 0:01:20skiathlon, the best ever finish by the British athletes. But the beauty

0:01:20 > 0:01:23of the Winter Olympics is the unpredictable at the end we have

0:01:23 > 0:01:27also seen some surprise gold medallists.

0:01:31 > 0:01:36Perrine Laffont has been getting better as the day has gone on.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40Absolutely tearing down the course! The first Frenchwoman to win the

0:01:40 > 0:01:47Olympic moguls.

0:01:47 > 0:01:53And Felix Loch has loaned it! David Grace death, cold in the luge!

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Red Gerard, on all American hopes, they are pinned on him. The

0:02:02 > 0:02:1217-year-old Ban -- barnstormed the men's final in the slip style. --

0:02:12 > 0:02:17slopestyle.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Something else that has been a little bit unpredictable has been

0:02:19 > 0:02:25the weather. It might look beautiful and sunny but believe me, not only

0:02:25 > 0:02:29is it bitterly cold, the wind has picked up. It caused some problems

0:02:29 > 0:02:34of some of the sports yesterday, we had cancellations and delays, and

0:02:34 > 0:02:40it's had the same effect today. Not only is it windy, it comes straight

0:02:40 > 0:02:46from Siberia, it is -26 with the wind chill factor which is brutal.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50Sports this morning, the women's giant slalom was postponed, Alex

0:02:50 > 0:02:55Tilley was in that one for GB. Also we have delays to the slopestyle

0:02:55 > 0:03:01final for the women which Aimee Fuller takes part in. That is

0:03:01 > 0:03:08getting under today. There is not coming up on day three of the Winter

0:03:08 > 0:03:12Olympics. -- lots coming up. Canada leads the

0:03:12 > 0:03:19way in the team figure skating competition, can they upgrade their

0:03:19 > 0:03:23Sochi Silver to gold? It is the highlights of the women's slip style

0:03:23 > 0:03:30final. And live ice hockey, Switzerland's women take on Japan.

0:03:30 > 0:03:36We also want you to get involved. How are you combining work with the

0:03:36 > 0:03:44winters this Monday? Sent us your pictures using the

0:03:44 > 0:03:51pictures using the hash tag #BBCOlympics. The half pipe is going

0:03:51 > 0:03:57on at the moment, but Whee Kim is in the lead at the moment -- Chloe Kim.

0:03:57 > 0:04:09That's kept back for the continuation of that qualifier.

0:04:14 > 0:04:22She was jumped out of the top 12 spot. -- excuse me, she was bumped

0:04:22 > 0:04:37down into the spot. She really need an improvement here.

0:04:38 > 0:04:45She has been the Japanese super rookie. Onto the big contest

0:04:45 > 0:04:56circuit. The wind is flapping away the trees in the background there.

0:04:59 > 0:05:07Such an unknown rider, that in 2017, she wasn't even brought along to the

0:05:07 > 0:05:12Olympic test event by the Japanese team, they didn't have faith in her,

0:05:12 > 0:05:15they didn't know who she was. The super Rocky has now turned

0:05:15 > 0:05:26everything on its head. -- super Ricky.

0:05:27 > 0:05:33Ricky. So, just finding her composure. It's not a timed event so

0:05:33 > 0:05:43she can drop in her own time but we are live! So here we go.

0:05:48 > 0:05:58Absolutely huge 900. Frontside 720. Into switch 720, looking really good

0:05:58 > 0:06:08so far. Frontside 540. Look at the wind!

0:06:08 > 0:06:14A huge backside, she's taking her breath there. I think she how close

0:06:14 > 0:06:22she has come.

0:07:06 > 0:07:11So, big frontside 540, down at the bottom.

0:07:22 > 0:07:37Seventh place, she has improved. 66.7 five. So she bolts Katie Clark

0:07:37 > 0:07:48and Gold. Now Arielle Gold in 12th position.

0:07:48 > 0:07:57position. Verena Rohrer coming out of... She's in Switzerland. What can

0:07:57 > 0:08:07she do here? The halfpipe junior world champion in 2014. Big backside

0:08:07 > 0:08:17air. In two frontside 540.

0:08:23 > 0:08:32Switch seven, well held. In two frontside seven, hands are up, she

0:08:32 > 0:08:37has claimed it.

0:08:37 > 0:08:46has claimed it. Now, she will definitely improve.

0:08:46 > 0:08:55definitely improve. She's off 16.5.

0:09:04 > 0:09:10She's definitely here, the Swiss girl. -- improving here.

0:09:30 > 0:09:37She is all smiles at the bottom, whether it enough?

0:09:37 > 0:09:46The judges are having a good, long, hard think about this. Sixth already

0:09:46 > 0:09:54this year. At the European open. That was also affected by weather,

0:09:54 > 0:10:01that contest.

0:10:01 > 0:10:06Oh, no. 14th place, 55 points, you hear the crowd's collective

0:10:06 > 0:10:14disappointment. What a shame. So it's the end of the games for her.

0:10:17 > 0:10:25As we go back to our next rider, Mercedes Nicoll from Canada. Born in

0:10:25 > 0:10:36Vancouver, out there on the West Coast. No stranger to Whistler, and

0:10:36 > 0:10:47the Sycamore mounted in Vancouver. -- Mountains in Vancouver. So, 34

0:10:47 > 0:10:52years of age. 17th here at the test event last year.

0:10:52 > 0:11:03Frontside air. Nice, backside 900. Front five lies really high at the

0:11:03 > 0:11:10transition, needs to keep the speed going here now. Frontside seven,

0:11:10 > 0:11:24needs one good laugh to trick. Switch 360 and

0:11:24 > 0:11:32Switch 360 and another one, air to fakie. Currently in 18th. Kisses and

0:11:32 > 0:11:41smiles and that's good to see. She had a huge slam in Sochi. After that

0:11:41 > 0:11:46she took a year off, she didn't snowboard for over a year. She

0:11:46 > 0:11:50started riding again in March 2015 and she is slowly made her way back

0:11:50 > 0:11:56to the elite level.

0:11:59 > 0:12:06to the elite level. She is part of the Canadian halfpipe team with

0:12:06 > 0:12:16Elizabeth Hosking. So, there we go. 18. Unfortunately, not to be. Only

0:12:16 > 0:12:23the top 12 will qualify. The current standings on your screen. Nobody is

0:12:23 > 0:12:34getting near 95.5. He says!

0:12:37 > 0:12:46So, Qiu Leng will be next in. This is her shot making it into that top

0:12:46 > 0:12:5812. Throwing in a huge one, the centrifugal forces trying to repair

0:12:58 > 0:13:07in half. A big frontside seven. The switch, 360. Frontside air, needs to

0:13:07 > 0:13:13build the speed and get amplitude up. Big Michael Chuck, named after

0:13:13 > 0:13:21the Canadian. And that's it. I'm not sure that's going to be enough for

0:13:21 > 0:13:30the 20-year-old. She looks a little dejected. We see that first

0:13:30 > 0:13:34crippler.

0:13:49 > 0:13:54The Chinese have always been there or thereabouts with their programme

0:13:54 > 0:14:10which has developed the riders. 16th. So we will see you in 2022. He

0:14:10 > 0:14:19is doing the robot! I don't think he knows it's the mobile, though. --

0:14:19 > 0:14:27the Mobot. I'm proud of you, he says, nice to hear. Elizabeth

0:14:27 > 0:14:34Hosking, just 16 years of age, from Canada. Dropping in here, ringing

0:14:34 > 0:14:41plenty of speed.

0:14:43 > 0:14:52The wind is blowing the snow. It isn't affecting her at the moment.

0:14:52 > 0:14:56Almost chasing her down the pipe. And that is the trick that she

0:14:56 > 0:15:01messed up on in her first run and you can see her with a sharp intake

0:15:01 > 0:15:08of breath because she has dodged a bullet there. Oh, my goodness. Her

0:15:08 > 0:15:15heart will be going just shy of 265 beats per minute at the moment.

0:15:20 > 0:15:29Is this it here? No, this is the frontside five. She is on the edge

0:15:29 > 0:15:36the whole time down there. Never quite know what's going to be next.

0:15:36 > 0:15:41And this is where she clips the lip of the pipe, puts her completely

0:15:41 > 0:15:50off-kilter. And you can see how close she was to a heel edge.

0:15:50 > 0:15:56Goodness me, that made me feel funny. We've seen so many people

0:15:56 > 0:16:01catch their heel edge, and get catapulted to the deck of the pipe.

0:16:01 > 0:16:08But she is OK, 16 years of age, she will be 20 in Beijing 2022. I'm sure

0:16:08 > 0:16:15we will see her then. Next, the Slovenian Kaja Verdnik.

0:16:20 > 0:16:30She's almost trying to update the muscle memory, backside spins her.

0:16:40 > 0:16:46Not seeing much above the lip here. Straight through qualifying, you

0:16:46 > 0:16:54might say. I don't think this is going to get into the top 12.

0:17:02 > 0:17:06I don't think that will be enough.

0:17:13 > 0:17:18Snowboarding for nearly ten years... She used to do jazz ballet!

0:17:26 > 0:17:32But it is not going to be enough. The amplitude judge penalises riders

0:17:32 > 0:17:38for performing tricks below the lip. Everything has to be high. The

0:17:38 > 0:17:49alley-oop wasn't bad. There is her fan club, the Slovenian bears. And,

0:17:49 > 0:17:55again, at just 18, she's still got the best years ahead of her. And you

0:17:55 > 0:18:05can hear the crowd ramping up now for our next competitor. It is...

0:18:05 > 0:18:07Kwon Sunoo.

0:18:17 > 0:18:21So, the Korean would have been gifted a place, the wild card entry,

0:18:21 > 0:18:30into these Games. We saw a really nice first showing. A mistake from

0:18:30 > 0:18:38her in the 19-year-old in the first run. She has probably had this pipe

0:18:38 > 0:18:44to practise in in the build up to these Games as well. So, what can

0:18:44 > 0:18:51she do? Can she troubled the top 12? And advanced tomorrow's final?

0:18:51 > 0:18:55Frontside air to kick things off, backside spin, showing her back to

0:18:55 > 0:19:04the bottom of her pipe, then frontside spin.

0:19:04 > 0:19:10Frontside 720. The crowd are cheering. And they are loving it.

0:19:10 > 0:19:20They are cheering every fit. Oh, and a dead sailor down at the bottom.

0:19:20 > 0:19:31She's happy with that and rightly so. The crowd absolutely loving it.

0:19:37 > 0:19:44She began snowboarding at the age of eight. She lives near here.

0:19:50 > 0:19:55The hero is the US snowboarder aerial gold who she will knock out

0:19:55 > 0:19:59of the top 12 if she gets a good enough score -- Arielle Gold. So

0:19:59 > 0:20:05this might be a bit of bittersweet here. But my heart says yes, my head

0:20:05 > 0:20:14says no. No. 20th position. And they have cheered it's like a gold medal

0:20:14 > 0:20:24down here, and why not. And we will see you, Kwon Sunoo, we will see you

0:20:24 > 0:20:34in Beijing. All eyes back to the top for Clemence Grimal. So, she fell on

0:20:34 > 0:20:39her first run. She is currently in bottom spot but she can get it done

0:20:39 > 0:20:46when she has to.

0:20:46 > 0:20:51So, bringing a lot of speed in, the Sun comes out. Huge backside air

0:20:51 > 0:20:56catching the lip but doesn't put. Frontside five. You see the going,

0:20:56 > 0:21:06she's struggling for speed. Oh and she has dropped it.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09she has dropped it. Turn your dictionaries to devastation and you

0:21:09 > 0:21:21will see a picture of that right there. What a shame. So the

0:21:21 > 0:21:2823-year-old will not be advancing. Really, really nice style on the

0:21:28 > 0:21:36frontside 540.

0:21:47 > 0:21:53You can see what's gone wrong, she is going to be absolutely devastated

0:21:53 > 0:22:02which is completely understandable. She ends her Olympic experience in

0:22:02 > 0:22:18bottom spot. Now the final rider will become under's Calynn Irwin. 28

0:22:18 > 0:22:25years of age, she has got to absolutely summon the beast here,

0:22:25 > 0:22:33channel everything she's got. They go, the handclap of respect,

0:22:33 > 0:22:39Namaste, friends. She needs a good run to bolt up into the top 12. She

0:22:39 > 0:22:46has to to best 62 points 75. If she does, she will knock out Arielle

0:22:46 > 0:22:53Gold. What can she do here, the Canadian? Backside air to start

0:22:53 > 0:22:58things off, adjusting her facial mask there. Oh! Hands to the sky and

0:22:58 > 0:23:06that is it, game over for her. I said she was adjusting her facial

0:23:06 > 0:23:10mask, didn't I? You want to be focusing on the pipe riding than

0:23:10 > 0:23:16what it your snood is doing. But I don't know. These guys have the

0:23:16 > 0:23:22reflexes of fighter pilots. They have time to write a dissertation in

0:23:22 > 0:23:27between the pipe walls. When I'm riding the pipe, it feels like time

0:23:27 > 0:23:32is speeding up. So it isn't going to be enough for hire. We have our

0:23:32 > 0:23:38official top 12 who will advance through to tomorrow's final and that

0:23:38 > 0:23:45is not a shot she will want to see again and again. Hands to the sky,

0:23:45 > 0:23:53to the snowboarding gods. Why me?

0:23:55 > 0:24:02Well, she is all smiles. She has got her mouth guard in there, she is all

0:24:02 > 0:24:07right.

0:24:07 > 0:24:13right. So, there we go. I think she knew it. Well, that is the story,

0:24:13 > 0:24:18ladies and gents, look at the scores. Chloe Kim, the red-hot

0:24:18 > 0:24:24favourite coming into this has proved exactly why. She has

0:24:24 > 0:24:29absolutely smashed the field. Tomorrow's battle here in the

0:24:29 > 0:24:33halfpipe you'll say will be a battle for silver because at the moment as

0:24:33 > 0:24:39it stands, it looks like nobody will get anywhere near USA's Chloe Kim.

0:24:39 > 0:24:47However, Maddie Mastro, and Queralt Castellet, who has beaten then her

0:24:47 > 0:24:56before, and then you've got Emily Arthur, Mirabelle Thovex and Arielle

0:24:56 > 0:25:04Gold and Kelly Clark. The USA have four attack in this is.

0:25:04 > 0:25:09four attack in this is. Tomorrow's final is going to be very

0:25:09 > 0:25:13interesting indeed. How will Chloe Kim handle the pressure? Not only is

0:25:13 > 0:25:20she revered in her homeland, she is also a pretty big deal in Korea. Her

0:25:20 > 0:25:25parents are Korean, they think of her as her own. They will be

0:25:25 > 0:25:30celebrating just as hard. Well, I believe they will be, come podium

0:25:30 > 0:25:38time tomorrow. From me here in the half-pipe qualifications, I hope you

0:25:38 > 0:25:40enjoyed that and we will see you tomorrow.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50Chloe Kim setting down a benchmark ahead of the final you'll be able to

0:25:50 > 0:25:57see on the BBC tonight at 1am. That will be on BBC One. Just to put it

0:25:57 > 0:26:03into context how good Chloe Kim is, she qualified four years ago for the

0:26:03 > 0:26:07Games but wasn't allowed to compete because she was too young at just 13

0:26:07 > 0:26:13the years of age. She comes here with huge expectations. So far, she

0:26:13 > 0:26:18is delivering. Like Tim says, that will be an exceptional final to look

0:26:18 > 0:26:22forward to. Would going inside to the figure skating, the team event

0:26:22 > 0:26:26has been taking place since before the Opening Ceremony even took

0:26:26 > 0:26:31place. It involves women's men's, pears and ice dance elements and

0:26:31 > 0:26:37this is how things stand after five of the eight sessions. It is Canada

0:26:37 > 0:26:43who are out in front, they're one of the big favourites, the Olympic

0:26:43 > 0:26:46athletes of Russia in sulphur medal position and the United States.

0:26:46 > 0:26:53Behind them. How much can things change with the remainder of the

0:26:53 > 0:26:57team event? Let's get to the Ice Arena with your commentary team

0:26:57 > 0:27:07Robin Cousins and Catherine Downes. The Russian national champion,

0:27:07 > 0:27:09recent European bronze medallist, representing the Olympic Athletes

0:27:09 > 0:27:14from Russia rusher. And he has three could RuPaul jumps planned, the most

0:27:14 > 0:27:22of anyone here but, shall we see how he gets on here? Let's see how he

0:27:22 > 0:27:28manages.He skates to Elvis Presley because he says he feels a bit like

0:27:28 > 0:27:38Elvis Presley. I read that in the interview.

0:27:46 > 0:27:54He is opening with a quadruple the is. That is the most difficult of

0:27:54 > 0:27:59the quadruple jumps. When it works, it is exquisite. When it doesn't...

0:27:59 > 0:28:04It isn't great and that wasn't a great one there. He will get given

0:28:04 > 0:28:09credit for it because he got the rotation but he obviously wanted day

0:28:09 > 0:28:21landing on a running edge not on the backside. Second quadruple...

0:28:21 > 0:28:25backside. Second quadruple... Did not make the rotation there. That

0:28:25 > 0:28:35will definitely be an axe in the box.

0:28:35 > 0:28:42box. Read means review, yellow means review, green means accepted. Triple

0:28:42 > 0:28:52Axel double toe loop. Watch the box go green. The technical panel

0:28:52 > 0:29:02deciding which elements are clean, which are to be reviewed.

0:29:52 > 0:29:59Now, can he compose themselves and deliver another clean quadruple

0:29:59 > 0:30:00jump?

0:30:06 > 0:30:14He has a quadruple toe loop planned.

0:30:19 > 0:30:25Yes, he can. Not the best landing, so the judges, the grade of

0:30:25 > 0:30:29execution points for that jumps will probably be negative, but he gets

0:30:29 > 0:30:36credit for the element.

0:30:37 > 0:30:45Lovely, light and easy triple axel.

0:30:47 > 0:30:53A big jumping element here that he absolutely need to nail. Two triple

0:30:53 > 0:30:59combination

0:30:59 > 0:31:07combination jumps, triple Lutz, triple Salchow.

0:32:12 > 0:32:16CHEERING

0:32:16 > 0:32:25the Olympics athletes from Russia in the silver medal position now and

0:32:25 > 0:32:29they would have wanted to see that on point. He did not quite nail

0:32:29 > 0:32:33those quotes, and in the long programme, he went for them and they

0:32:33 > 0:32:44did not work out. He's very much an all or nothing skater. Well down on

0:32:44 > 0:32:48his season was Macbeth which is up on the 180s. Pat on the shoulder for

0:32:48 > 0:32:52Mikhail Kolyada, who I think, the whole team who could have done

0:32:52 > 0:32:59better.

0:32:59 > 0:33:07The great Patrick Chan. We saw him muddle through his programme, not

0:33:07 > 0:33:14the performances were expecting for the three-time world champion. He

0:33:14 > 0:33:18won team and individual silver in Sochi, keen to get gold with team

0:33:18 > 0:33:25Canada here in South Korea.

0:33:48 > 0:33:56He has two quadruple jumps plan. There is the first. A beautiful

0:33:56 > 0:34:02quadruple toe loop with a triple toe loop in coronation. The second

0:34:02 > 0:34:10quadruple is a repeat, which he's a allowed one of, but it's going to

0:34:10 > 0:34:16come right now.

0:34:17 > 0:34:18come right now. Exquisite. Absolutely glorious.

0:34:29 > 0:34:38That should have been a triple axel in coronation. -- combination.

0:35:14 > 0:35:19That's better, triple Lutz, loop, triple Salchow.

0:35:44 > 0:35:56Second triple axel, made the rotation, but not the landing.

0:36:04 > 0:36:07Two hands down on the triple loop.

0:36:47 > 0:36:51Triple flip, added a double toe loop there, needs to try and rack up some

0:36:51 > 0:36:57points.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06CHEERING

0:38:09 > 0:38:12the Patrick Chan that we know and love has not yet turned up at this

0:38:12 > 0:38:19game is.And the mistakes are just uncharacteristic.Look at this,

0:38:19 > 0:38:23perfect position and alignment, great take-off, fantastic air

0:38:23 > 0:38:31position, easy to the landing.

0:38:31 > 0:38:40They've given him a massive new season's best, he's had a difficult

0:38:40 > 0:38:47season. That's up massive new season's best. So, let's have a look

0:38:47 > 0:38:54at the standings of that men's competition. Patrick Chan, the

0:38:54 > 0:38:59three-time world champion, leads the way, Mikhail Kolyada presenting the

0:38:59 > 0:39:06Olympics athletes from Russia, and Adam Rippon, what escaped from him

0:39:06 > 0:39:16in his third Olympics, in third.

0:39:43 > 0:39:52And she's got it, triple axel to open the programme. The music from

0:39:52 > 0:39:56Miss Saigon, and there you see on the screen, the green box is ticked.

0:40:03 > 0:40:08Triple flip, triple toe loop. Did very well to save that but she did.

0:40:13 > 0:40:15And the triple Salchow.

0:41:23 > 0:41:32Double axel, triple toe loop, double toe loop.

0:41:48 > 0:41:51Triple Lutz, double toe loop.

0:42:00 > 0:42:03Triple flip.

0:42:56 > 0:43:04One triple jump left. A triple loop.

0:43:16 > 0:43:22And she's got that.

0:43:31 > 0:43:41Oh, my goodness me!Team USA are on their feet. There's the triple flip.

0:43:41 > 0:43:50Triple toe loop. Did very well to hold that on.

0:43:50 > 0:44:01A new season's best for Mirai Nagasu of the USA. She is top of the

0:44:01 > 0:44:07standings for now.

0:44:09 > 0:44:18And

0:44:20 > 0:44:25here is here is Gabrielle Daleman for the Canadians, she is the

0:44:25 > 0:44:29youngest member of team Canada in Sochi, she was 16, here she is four

0:44:29 > 0:44:32years later, a lot more experience under her belt. She is a powerful

0:44:32 > 0:44:35skater.

0:44:39 > 0:44:45She's also the current Canadian number one, national champion. As

0:44:45 > 0:44:54she was two seasons ago. Last season, it was her team-mate. Triple

0:44:54 > 0:45:03toe loop to open up, triple toe loop.

0:45:16 > 0:45:30Nice, triple Lutz. Terrific bounce and elevation and her take-offs and

0:45:30 > 0:45:33jumps. Has had difficulty controlling it in the past but the

0:45:33 > 0:45:41last couple of seasons, good consistency. Triple flip.

0:46:37 > 0:46:53Second triple Lutz and then a combination stronger than the first.

0:46:55 > 0:47:02And there is the triple loop.

0:47:32 > 0:47:40Final jumping pass, triple Salchow and a double Axel she wants. There

0:47:40 > 0:47:48is the Salchow. There is the double Axel.

0:48:42 > 0:48:51That is it, that has got to be gold for Canada! Clean and strong from

0:48:51 > 0:48:58Gabrielle Daleman. Surely it is only a formality. Just give them the

0:48:58 > 0:49:03gold! She wanted to lay down the gauntlet and she did it. I think

0:49:03 > 0:49:09we're going to see a new season's best and you are probably correct,

0:49:09 > 0:49:20team Canada will be in the lead. It is a massive season's best.

0:49:20 > 0:49:21is a massive season's best. That is for Gabrielle Daleman of team

0:49:21 > 0:49:26Canada.

0:49:27 > 0:49:34Canada. Alina Zagitova, 15 years old, the Prodigy who has been better

0:49:34 > 0:49:38than Evgenia Medvedeva this season. Beat the double world champion to

0:49:38 > 0:49:41win the European title just a few weeks ago. And she is something

0:49:41 > 0:49:47else.

0:51:53 > 0:51:56Going for the first jumping pass and it is the most difficult combination

0:51:56 > 0:52:01we will see in the ladies events. Triple Lutz, triple loop

0:52:01 > 0:52:07combination.

0:52:14 > 0:52:17Double Axel, triple toe loop.

0:52:27 > 0:52:35That is the triple flip, double toe, double loop combination.

0:52:56 > 0:52:58Triple Lutz.

0:53:15 > 0:53:26And another triple flip. Last jump, the Axel...

0:53:46 > 0:53:53Alina Zagitova, you little firecracker! What talent!

0:53:53 > 0:53:57firecracker! What talent! She is 15 but there is such maturity in the

0:53:57 > 0:54:06choreography and the way she moves. A new season's best for 15-year-old

0:54:06 > 0:54:18Alina Zagitova, her first Olympics. And Canada have an unassailable lead

0:54:18 > 0:54:28so they are the Olympic champions, 2018. The gold is already in the

0:54:28 > 0:54:33bag, so, just a masterclass, then, from the bowl champions Tessa Virtue

0:54:33 > 0:54:39and Scott Moir, and a fitting way to close out this team event, the gold

0:54:39 > 0:54:46around their necks once this routine is done.

0:58:56 > 0:59:01From the Mulan Rouge to the top of the podium, that will put Canada out

0:59:01 > 0:59:07of sight. The gold was already there is but Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue

0:59:07 > 0:59:11are head and shoulders above the rest.Well, this now solidifies

0:59:11 > 0:59:18their second gold medal because they won the gold in Vancouver in 2010,

0:59:18 > 0:59:23and I absolutely love every second and every move of that performance.

0:59:23 > 0:59:27What does this gold mean, especially 18 gold for Canada?

0:59:27 > 0:59:30What a testament to the strong performances from our team-mates and

0:59:30 > 0:59:35it was so inspiring and we had no doubt they would lay it down. It

0:59:35 > 0:59:39certainly gave us a nice cushion as we took the ice today and we were

0:59:39 > 0:59:43able to savour and embrace the moment and be present every step of

0:59:43 > 0:59:48the way.Last time in Sochi it was a silver for the team. You have

0:59:48 > 0:59:55converted it to gold, what has changed in the last

0:59:55 > 0:59:57changed in the last four years and Canadian figure skating? That is a

0:59:57 > 1:00:00great question. Give me a great answer.That'll be tough, I'm not

1:00:00 > 1:00:05very good at those! I think we have a special team, I'm proud of these

1:00:05 > 1:00:10skaters. I think our attitude changed from Sochi. We were a little

1:00:10 > 1:00:15bit too casual and this team event medal in figure skating is like the

1:00:15 > 1:00:21hockey and curling medals. We are a skating country and I feel that we

1:00:21 > 1:00:25have all come through Canada so this is what we need to be in the mix of.

1:00:25 > 1:00:32I'm super proud of these athletes are making that happen. This is a

1:00:32 > 1:00:36great journey for all of us and our coaches and these guys deserve it.

1:00:36 > 1:00:39So, the first figure skating medal goes to Canada.

1:00:39 > 1:00:44The next medal event is the pairs. Canada also in the mix for

1:00:44 > 1:00:47potentially another gold in that one which gets under way on Wednesday at

1:00:47 > 1:00:511am.

1:00:51 > 1:00:55We're heading into the late afternoon here in Pyeongchang, a

1:00:55 > 1:00:58beautiful time of day, the sun begins to set over the slips behind

1:00:58 > 1:01:03me. This is what has been happening so far on day three of the Winter

1:01:03 > 1:01:07Olympics.

1:01:07 > 1:01:15The women's giant slalom fell victim to the weather, robbing us a chance

1:01:15 > 1:01:21of seeing one of the standouts start of the games. Mixed double maybe

1:01:21 > 1:01:32having a debut here, but same old victory means Canada have got the

1:01:32 > 1:01:35eyes on gold tomorrow. More solutions for Canada in the figure

1:01:35 > 1:01:40skating with a dominant performance from their hugely talented team

1:01:40 > 1:01:43turning Sochi silver into Pyeongchang gold.

1:01:43 > 1:01:48In the

1:01:50 > 1:01:54In the halfpipe, Chloe Kim topped the final qualification more than

1:01:54 > 1:01:57seven points ahead of her nearest rival.

1:01:57 > 1:02:03Sticking with snowboarding, and the women's slopestyle, a bit of a bumpy

1:02:03 > 1:02:10start for Team GB. The injury to Katie Ormerod who was one of the big

1:02:10 > 1:02:15medal hopes, and she was facing an operation instead of the Olympics.

1:02:15 > 1:02:20Yesterday the weather is meant that the slopestyle convocation was

1:02:20 > 1:02:27cancelled. Straight to a final today, to runs to say he would be

1:02:27 > 1:02:30the champion. Aimee Fuller flying the flag for rate Britain but before

1:02:30 > 1:02:43we find out what happened, let's find out a bit more about it.

1:02:43 > 1:02:48find out a bit more about it. Oh, drama! She's young, it's not the

1:02:48 > 1:02:54last thing we will see from Aimee Fuller.

1:02:54 > 1:02:59Fuller. Four years ago you just missed out on the finals and Heidi

1:02:59 > 1:03:05look back on it?I look back and I think I was so lucky to go to the

1:03:05 > 1:03:10Olympics and have that opportunity, and ride an Olympics standard sized

1:03:10 > 1:03:15course with all of that pressure going into the next one. I have

1:03:15 > 1:03:20definitely strategised a bit better, as an athlete physically and

1:03:20 > 1:03:23mentally I'm in a better place and I'm ready to go there and challenge

1:03:23 > 1:03:27and do the best I can.We had a good time because we were in the

1:03:27 > 1:03:39commentary booth.Oh, she's done!We are not one...Are we supposed to do

1:03:39 > 1:03:45that? Probably not.What did you learn about commentary?People love

1:03:45 > 1:03:50it if you're passionate so I will stay by that.Ed and Aimee are

1:03:50 > 1:03:55crying, and now I'm going. All professionalism going straight out

1:03:55 > 1:04:01of the window here.

1:04:05 > 1:04:08Going towards Pyeongchang, how is the sport snowboarding different to

1:04:08 > 1:04:15what it was a few years ago?St Sochi, the sport has changed a lot.

1:04:15 > 1:04:25It's an awful lot going up, it used to be you just kept going on the

1:04:25 > 1:04:30tour, and now you have a set goal of every four years. It provided a lot

1:04:30 > 1:04:34of structure and support, UK sport coming on board, and we have got

1:04:34 > 1:04:39coaches and physios. Amazing places like this to ride and it provided a

1:04:39 > 1:04:42huge platform and opportunity for us to progress as athletes and

1:04:42 > 1:04:51sportswomen. It's such a huge stage for us to showcase our sport. I want

1:04:51 > 1:04:55to go there and demonstrate our sport and show not only what I'm

1:04:55 > 1:05:01capable of but what our sport has evolved to and where we can take it.

1:05:01 > 1:05:05When I arrived at the top of that course, when it is go time, I'm

1:05:05 > 1:05:09there, go for it. That's what I'm visualising in my head between now

1:05:09 > 1:05:12and then. I will be on my board doing the tricks I want to do so I

1:05:12 > 1:05:17can rock up and do the best run of my life.Due to the weather

1:05:17 > 1:05:23yesterday it was a straight final today in the women's slopestyle, two

1:05:23 > 1:05:32runs to determine who is the Olympic champion. The Americans exacted down

1:05:32 > 1:05:37-- expected to dominate, Jamie Anderson has one exclaimed medals,

1:05:37 > 1:05:47including gold last month. -- has one X Games medals. Let's find out

1:05:47 > 1:05:52how Aimee got on at the Phoenix Park.

1:05:56 > 1:06:03So, the women's slopestyle finals, after the cancellation of the

1:06:03 > 1:06:08qualifications, we have a full quota, 26 women dropping, only

1:06:08 > 1:06:15getting two runs instead of three. Klaudia Medlova, one of the

1:06:15 > 1:06:19trailblazers of recent years. Made a name for herself dropping the first

1:06:19 > 1:06:26ever double radio. She's also done the first double Cork frontside 1080

1:06:26 > 1:06:34in competition. Interesting to see what she has got here.

1:06:35 > 1:06:43Up and over the A-frame. Setting up that final little module.Into the

1:06:43 > 1:06:55first of the jumps.Super corked. Goodness me.That was incredible.

1:06:56 > 1:07:02She eventually jumped off the roof of the house and landed on her bag.

1:07:02 > 1:07:08I can't believe she is riding away. Whether it was the wind which caught

1:07:08 > 1:07:22her and stalled the rotation. Jessika Jenson jumping in. Jamie

1:07:22 > 1:07:26Anderson, Hailey Langland and Julia Marino ran out the US contingent in

1:07:26 > 1:07:32slopestyle. The Americans all qualified through their own Grand

1:07:32 > 1:07:40Prix season series.

1:07:40 > 1:07:48Jessika Jenson got fifth, highest results this season. Killing speed

1:07:48 > 1:07:53into the ramp. The body language there, both hands in front of her,

1:07:53 > 1:07:59she doesn't look confident on this course.I feel a little bit nervous

1:07:59 > 1:08:05watching her. That's not really a solid switch 540. More like it, jump

1:08:05 > 1:08:13two, frontside 360, very nice. Keep your composure. A big backside 720,

1:08:13 > 1:08:21first place.Definitely, easily. We have not seen runs completed over

1:08:21 > 1:08:31all three kickers.First place, easy.

1:08:31 > 1:08:39easy.Aimee Fuller is about to drop. The rider who burst onto the scene

1:08:39 > 1:08:46with her incredible double backflip and the camp double under. She's

1:08:46 > 1:08:52been getting to grips of this course throughout training. 50-50 on that

1:08:52 > 1:09:01big down rail.Come on, Aimee Fuller.Coming off early on the King

1:09:01 > 1:09:02rail.

1:09:06 > 1:09:10The results that she has been pushing, top ten would a good result

1:09:10 > 1:09:23for a meet today. -- for Aimee. And under Philip, the single version. --

1:09:23 > 1:09:32Philip, didn't feel like she had the speed. You can almost see her say,

1:09:32 > 1:09:43it's so windy.Just making it over the small side. Again, wind. That's

1:09:43 > 1:09:51an issue. A shame for Aimee.

1:09:55 > 1:10:00She said, waiting for the wind to stop.

1:10:00 > 1:10:06Back up to

1:10:06 > 1:10:10Back up to the top, Silje Norendal, another rider who doesn't have the

1:10:10 > 1:10:18World Cup ranking which reflects her riding, she's tidy competitor.

1:10:18 > 1:10:26Really difficult switch grind through the kink rail. She has got

1:10:26 > 1:10:33three X Games medals in a row, she loves riding at X Games.Switching

1:10:33 > 1:10:39to the first jump. Coming up little short, needs to tuck in. No speed

1:10:39 > 1:10:45checks.

1:10:45 > 1:10:50checks.Frontside 360, clears it despite losing her composure.

1:10:50 > 1:10:56Backside 720. There we see the first of the riders, she's got the control

1:10:56 > 1:11:00and the internal speedometer and she's able, maybe not in the

1:11:00 > 1:11:05prettiest way that she has made it through comfortably. There we go,

1:11:05 > 1:11:14look at that. She moves ahead of Jessika Jenson. So, next, Anna

1:11:14 > 1:11:19Gasser.

1:11:20 > 1:11:26Gasser. Alongside Enni Rukajarvi, one of the riders who thinks this

1:11:26 > 1:11:33competition should not have run in this, -- in these conditions. In the

1:11:33 > 1:11:38US open last year, she had the best run anyone has ever seen by a woman

1:11:38 > 1:11:42in slopestyle. Let's see what she's got here. Really attacking the

1:11:42 > 1:11:52course. 272 frontside waterside at the end of the double kink.Without

1:11:52 > 1:11:59a jacket so consciously thinking about the wind. Looking very good.

1:12:00 > 1:12:06Double under Philip! That's how you do it, with the Riva. -- under flip!

1:12:06 > 1:12:18With a revert.She wants this, doesn't she?So, she said it hugely.

1:12:18 > 1:12:24She got the big trick out of the way and calmed down. She adopted the

1:12:24 > 1:12:29Hailey Langland approach, watch this, everyone.A heroic effort from

1:12:29 > 1:12:34Anna Gasser. She has dominated women's slopestyle for the last

1:12:34 > 1:12:44decade. She knocked Jenny Jones of her perch in 2012. If anyone can

1:12:44 > 1:12:48ride this course, if anyone can find a way around the wind, it will be

1:12:48 > 1:12:54this woman. The reigning Olympic champion. The gold medallist at X

1:12:54 > 1:12:59Games two weeks ago.You know, just when you think that she's perhaps

1:12:59 > 1:13:06thinking about hanging up her competitive snowboard boots, she

1:13:06 > 1:13:14goes and learns new tricks. Look at that! Liquid snowboarding. It's an

1:13:14 > 1:13:21absolutely different league through the rails. So stylish. So smooth.

1:13:21 > 1:13:29Confidence and experience shining through.Massive. Oh, my goodness,

1:13:29 > 1:13:36legs forged from steel! She boxed clever there, opened up, I think

1:13:36 > 1:13:42that was going to be a carb double under.Look at that. That's exactly

1:13:42 > 1:13:50what we said. The experience, the confidence. And the trust in her

1:13:50 > 1:13:56tricks, the ability to understand the special awareness at every

1:13:56 > 1:13:59point, she knows it wasn't pretty all the way through. But experience

1:13:59 > 1:14:04got through it.

1:14:06 > 1:14:11got through it.83 for Jamie Anderson. A big smile and a very

1:14:11 > 1:14:14well-deserved gold medal position after the first run. That's so good

1:14:14 > 1:14:20to see.Very, very good to see. The Americans sitting in bronze and

1:14:20 > 1:14:23gold.

1:14:27 > 1:14:32An absolute lottery after that first three positions.

1:14:32 > 1:14:41The second one is, -- second run, the Phoenix Park venue for all of

1:14:41 > 1:14:50the freestyle events.The windsock is gaping like a basking shark.This

1:14:50 > 1:14:56is not cloud in the air, this is slowly being blown off the hill. 45

1:14:56 > 1:15:01kilometres of costs.

1:15:01 > 1:15:06kilometres of costs.Let's do this! Aimee Fuller says, let's do this.

1:15:06 > 1:15:13Certainly at the moment, the windsock is saying it's good. Let's

1:15:13 > 1:15:21see how she can go on these rails.

1:15:22 > 1:15:2850-50 on the rails, great start.

1:15:29 > 1:15:36Really nice on the double King.Nose press on the final section of the

1:15:36 > 1:15:48rail. Nice and smooth.Snapped the backside 180 around.

1:15:48 > 1:15:59Pumping into this! Sends it on what with the backside 360 and the last

1:15:59 > 1:16:09jump... And again, she went huge... Oh!Hope she's OK.What a shame, too

1:16:09 > 1:16:15much speed. That picture says it all. There is a snowstorm, a

1:16:15 > 1:16:22blizzard almost happening down at the bottom. You can actually see a

1:16:22 > 1:16:34spiral of snow, a mini tornado. Next in line, Hailey Langland. The girl

1:16:34 > 1:16:38who said you can't judge a book by it's cover but you can judge a

1:16:38 > 1:16:44snowboarder by their method is on course. That lovely arc around,

1:16:44 > 1:16:49tapping the corner of the close-out rail.Good line, no one else is

1:16:49 > 1:16:59doing that.Almost surfing into that third feature to kill speed. There

1:16:59 > 1:17:12was nothing functional about it. Lovely double clap 360, come on!

1:17:12 > 1:17:18Backside 540, just made it over the knuckle. She has got enough

1:17:18 > 1:17:27speed...! Look at how stoked she is. The Americans cheering, very, very

1:17:27 > 1:17:33justifiably. One of the smallest and lightest riders in the field has

1:17:33 > 1:17:41landed a full run.Do you think it is top three?Definitely top three.

1:17:41 > 1:17:45The only question is whether it's a gold medal. I don't think it is

1:17:45 > 1:17:56gold. I think, actually, it might be silver.Just off!Fourth-place!

1:17:56 > 1:18:06That's a shame.So, Jessika Jenson stays in fourth place.The Canadian,

1:18:06 > 1:18:13Laurie Blouin. She's got the 99 as well. She can do cap 99.

1:18:13 > 1:18:17Interestingly, I don't think it is about your best tricks but what can

1:18:17 > 1:18:22you put together under the circumstances? What is your best

1:18:22 > 1:18:25stock wrong? Interesting comparing Laurie Blouin, she's so functional

1:18:25 > 1:18:30with her speak checks, where's Hailey Langland was fluid in between

1:18:30 > 1:18:37each feature.

1:18:37 > 1:18:51This is where it counts. She held on.Just making it over the knuckle.

1:18:54 > 1:19:00Switch 540, she got it! Another landed run.

1:19:05 > 1:19:15There you go, second.Look at the black eyes sustained in training.

1:19:15 > 1:19:20Next, one of the riders who was really not happy about this course

1:19:20 > 1:19:28about the first run, silver medallist in Sochi.Keep it simple.

1:19:28 > 1:19:33Is that your advice?I think so, keep it simple on a day like today.

1:19:33 > 1:19:38That lovely rainbow transition touch, coming through the harder

1:19:38 > 1:19:46section of the course, 50-50 backside 180, really, really nice.

1:19:46 > 1:19:51Come on, Enni Rukajarvi. Using the classic line all the men did across

1:19:51 > 1:19:59the rail. Setting up switch for the first take-off, dropping right to

1:19:59 > 1:20:08the skewed take-off. Lovely! Cab 540. She has gone big, backside 720,

1:20:08 > 1:20:15hold on!This is looking good! Frontside 360, bounces off the

1:20:15 > 1:20:28knuckle. On the spot, Jamie, where is that?I don't know.I think that

1:20:28 > 1:20:33is the end of someone's medal hope. She slots into third middle

1:20:33 > 1:20:42position. Anna Gasser, she has been in form and she has won all her

1:20:42 > 1:20:50contest is. She laid down the best slopestyle run earlier in the year

1:20:50 > 1:20:54we have ever seen in women's snowboarding. What can she do today?

1:20:54 > 1:21:01There is no question she has the tricks.I think even if she does the

1:21:01 > 1:21:04cab under and plays it safe she has a very good chance of being on the

1:21:04 > 1:21:16podium.So, blazing through the rail section.That's so good.Killing her

1:21:16 > 1:21:20speed, half cab, the 50-50 nose press. And that is such a hard line,

1:21:20 > 1:21:28180 and switching to the edge to get up onto the rail. So, one under

1:21:28 > 1:21:33Flip.

1:21:33 > 1:21:42Flip. Frontside 720 and she has gone huge.Oh my gosh! That is so

1:21:42 > 1:21:48annoying. One of the best slopestyle riders there is.So, another rider

1:21:48 > 1:21:55who again has the firepower of tricks to take this down, Julia

1:21:55 > 1:22:01Marino, currently in 11th place. In a World Cup rankings, she is only

1:22:01 > 1:22:07one spot behind Jamie Anderson, currently in second.Very smooth.

1:22:07 > 1:22:12Very smooth.

1:22:12 > 1:22:21I think that is one of the best sections, it is up there for her.

1:22:21 > 1:22:30Frontside 720, clipped the knuckle. Jamie Anderson knows she's claimed a

1:22:30 > 1:22:37second consecutive Olympic gold medal. Look at that. And it is the

1:22:37 > 1:22:41one thing I would say, you know what, silver and bronze, they could

1:22:41 > 1:22:47have gone anywhere but Jamie Anderson, the cream has risen to the

1:22:47 > 1:22:54top of the slopestyle today. Against the olds. Against the conditions,

1:22:54 > 1:22:57she has managed to land the run she wanted to and her experience has

1:22:57 > 1:23:06told. Look at it.She's waiting. Maybe she does want to do something

1:23:06 > 1:23:10good, not just write down. I hope she goes down and methods of

1:23:10 > 1:23:16everything.

1:23:16 > 1:23:19Let's have a look... Lovely first rail and the only rider transferring

1:23:19 > 1:23:24from the a kick into the landing with the stalefish air.She is so

1:23:24 > 1:23:38smooth.Liquid snowboarding. All of these, it is muscle memory with her.

1:23:39 > 1:23:50Oh, no! And you think why did you risk it? She's going to roll around.

1:23:50 > 1:23:58That method exposes the Lord even more. She must be so happy,

1:23:58 > 1:24:05especially in these conditions as well.Tripod over the knuckle. Jamie

1:24:05 > 1:24:11Anderson rounds out the final here, and her boyfriend, Tyler Nicholson,

1:24:11 > 1:24:16is the first man in the finish area to congratulate her. Jamie Anderson

1:24:16 > 1:24:25crowns what has been a very well decorated career with a second gold

1:24:25 > 1:24:35medal.Unreal.That tells more of today's story than the finish area,

1:24:35 > 1:24:39the wind whistling through this half-pipe course. The courage of the

1:24:39 > 1:24:49women should be saluted. Double Olympic champion. How does

1:24:49 > 1:24:56that feel?!Honestly, it feels insane. Of course, I believe in

1:24:56 > 1:25:00myself and I have dreams and goals but the level of riding has changed

1:25:00 > 1:25:05so much in the last couple of years, it wasn't nearly as much... In Sochi

1:25:05 > 1:25:10I knew I had a good chance but here I had no idea. There are so many

1:25:10 > 1:25:16girls that could win this contest. So I had to let it go.At the end of

1:25:16 > 1:25:20the day it is the Olympic final and everyone wanted to write. It is and

1:25:20 > 1:25:25how I would have expected and how I had planned and how I had visualised

1:25:25 > 1:25:31for years of prep work to go today. I think if you were lucky with the

1:25:31 > 1:25:35wind, there were some calm windows but the majority of it was super

1:25:35 > 1:25:40inconsistent. And I don't think it was a true show of women's female

1:25:40 > 1:25:46slopestyle, which is a real shame Frost board but we have to pick

1:25:46 > 1:25:51ourselves up and stay strong, have a good rest and recovery, and go hard

1:25:51 > 1:25:57next week. So, tough day for all the girls up at the slopestyle today.

1:25:57 > 1:26:01I've been joined by such a bronze medallist Jenny Jones. Welcome to

1:26:01 > 1:26:06our lovely balcony. You are up at the slopestyle, how weather

1:26:06 > 1:26:09conditions today compared to yesterday when the heat were

1:26:09 > 1:26:14cancelled?Yeah, it was an absolute shocker as far as the wind is

1:26:14 > 1:26:18concerned. Yesterday was windy but it was uphill, which is why it was

1:26:18 > 1:26:23cancelled because the girls wouldn't be able to clear the jumps. The wind

1:26:23 > 1:26:27today was gusty so it comes in and out so some of the girls were flying

1:26:27 > 1:26:31to the bottom of the jump because the wind was pushing them and some

1:26:31 > 1:26:37not clearing them because it was blowing up the hill. It was a total

1:26:37 > 1:26:41lottery about what was going to happen.Aimee Fuller sing four years

1:26:41 > 1:26:45of preparation going into an Olympic event. Should it have been cancelled

1:26:45 > 1:26:50today when you look at the conditions they were asked to ride

1:26:50 > 1:26:53in?It is questionable and usually they have the coaches and judges,

1:26:53 > 1:26:58they all have a chat together and they make a decision at the top of

1:26:58 > 1:27:03the slope and I wonder what went on at that conversation, why didn't

1:27:03 > 1:27:06someone say let's postponed this? I can't answer that but in my mind I

1:27:06 > 1:27:10would have liked it to have been postponed. You girls out there look

1:27:10 > 1:27:16fearless. From speaking to a few of you, you know the dangers involved.

1:27:16 > 1:27:24Was it safe? No, it isn't safe and isn't safe because it is an extreme

1:27:24 > 1:27:28sport, you're flying off a 70 foot kicker, and your snowboard is

1:27:28 > 1:27:33working like a cell, the wind is blowing at left, right and centre.

1:27:33 > 1:27:37It isn't but how much of the degree is a time safe for these girls, and

1:27:37 > 1:27:42I think some of them were upset it went ahead and they had to battle

1:27:42 > 1:27:47through. Luckily, no one was badly injured but I'd be asking... I would

1:27:47 > 1:27:52be asking why this thing carried on. It did carry on, Aimee Fuller got

1:27:52 > 1:27:57into the Olympic final, albeit without having to qualify, how will

1:27:57 > 1:28:01she reflect on her second Olympic Games and on that run?I think she

1:28:01 > 1:28:06will be gutted with the conditions. She is in one piece, more than

1:28:06 > 1:28:11anything. She almost stayed on her feet and she nearly made the last

1:28:11 > 1:28:16kicker but if you see the wind just took her and there's nothing she can

1:28:16 > 1:28:20do about that. It isn't in her control and unfortunately just

1:28:20 > 1:28:25wasn't going to happen. She will probably reflect a little bit on

1:28:25 > 1:28:30Jamie Anderson. The first snowboarder to get two gold medals,

1:28:30 > 1:28:33incredible stuff from her today. She was under the same conditions as

1:28:33 > 1:28:37everyone else and she stayed on her feet and I think that is her

1:28:37 > 1:28:41experience and knowing how to ride in these difficult conditions. She

1:28:41 > 1:28:45played it safe. She almost had the run and the same level I did in

1:28:45 > 1:28:50Sochi and we almost these girls have moved on since Sochi. Four years

1:28:50 > 1:28:55later now, I promise you the level is so much higher. The tricks these

1:28:55 > 1:29:00girls can do are amazing now and it is so sad they didn't get to

1:29:00 > 1:29:05showcase that. Anna Gasser, she has got doubles... You probably don't

1:29:05 > 1:29:10understand what these tricks are! But they didn't get to show those

1:29:10 > 1:29:13and that is what they come here to do, this is their moment, their big

1:29:13 > 1:29:20stage. And it is a shame.It is a shame. Aimee Fuller, it isn't over

1:29:20 > 1:29:25for her because she does go into the Big Air a week today. Thank you for

1:29:25 > 1:29:29giving us a insight on that final. It is approaching late afternoon

1:29:29 > 1:29:33here in Pyeongchang and this is what has been happening so far on day

1:29:33 > 1:29:37three of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The women's giant

1:29:37 > 1:29:51slalom fell victim of the wind. We didn't get to see the woman, Mikaela

1:29:51 > 1:29:58Shiffrin we are looking for to see. Canada won both theme men's and

1:29:58 > 1:30:01women's curling, and they go for gold tomorrow. There were more

1:30:01 > 1:30:04celebrations with Canada in the figure skating with a dominant

1:30:04 > 1:30:09performance from the hugely talented team turning Sochi silver into

1:30:09 > 1:30:16Pyeongchang gold. In a slopestyle competition badly disrupted by bad

1:30:16 > 1:30:20wins, Jamie Anderson became the first female snowboarder ever to win

1:30:20 > 1:30:27two gold medals by defending her title.

1:30:27 > 1:30:32Where now going to head to the quango Hockey Centre for the women's

1:30:32 > 1:30:38ice hockey, -- Guang Dong ice Centre. Switzerland hoping to make

1:30:38 > 1:30:47it two out of two as they take on Japan.

1:30:47 > 1:30:55Ice hockey is one of the fastest team sports in the world. The

1:30:56 > 1:31:03team sports in the world. The puck travelling at very high speeds. The

1:31:03 > 1:31:08aim of the game is to score more goals than the opposition. Six aside

1:31:08 > 1:31:13teams contest games of 320 minute periods with overtime and shoot outs

1:31:13 > 1:31:22if required. Of these are given if a player's action has gone against the

1:31:22 > 1:31:28rules of the game and then they have deserved in the penalty box. The

1:31:28 > 1:31:33opposing team would be on a power play when a team member is sent off

1:31:33 > 1:31:37from the opposite team, the best opportunity for someone to score.

1:31:37 > 1:31:48The first since 1994, the men's Olympic hockey

1:31:48 > 1:31:53Olympic hockey would not feature players from the NHL, as the Olympic

1:31:53 > 1:31:59committee would not cover the cost of insurance for these players.

1:31:59 > 1:32:05A great game in prospect. The group leading Swiss taking on Japan who

1:32:05 > 1:32:11play so well in their opening game against Sweden. And the Swiss know

1:32:11 > 1:32:17that victory for them or see their book a place in the quarterfinals of

1:32:17 > 1:32:23the women's Olympic ice hockey competition.The Swiss were so

1:32:23 > 1:32:31impressive. All of the outside noise, the first game against the

1:32:31 > 1:32:37unified Korean team, the team is to throw workmanlike, they did not get

1:32:37 > 1:32:41caught up in the extracurricular and they came out and were extremely

1:32:41 > 1:32:48solid, 8-0 winners. They were led by their young superstar, Alina Muller,

1:32:48 > 1:32:52four goals and two assists for 6-point performance. She and the

1:32:52 > 1:32:56rest of the Switzerland team will be looking to repeat that against

1:32:56 > 1:33:00Japan.There is a disappointment for the Japanese fans in the stadium.

1:33:00 > 1:33:11The scorer of their goal in the opening game will not be playing,

1:33:11 > 1:33:14Rui Ukita, what happened? She has been disbanded for one game for a

1:33:14 > 1:33:20kicking incident in the first game, there was a mix-up in front of the

1:33:20 > 1:33:28benches. Rui Ukita actually got pushed over, while she fell down,

1:33:28 > 1:33:33you could see a kicking motion towards the Swiss player. It did not

1:33:33 > 1:33:37get calls join the game, but afterwards, the officials looked at

1:33:37 > 1:33:41it and said there was a bit of intention, not necessarily to injure

1:33:41 > 1:33:45but just that swaying motion of the skate blade which is certainly not

1:33:45 > 1:33:52allowed. Unfortunately for the Japanese goal-scorer, she has to sit

1:33:52 > 1:33:58this out today. So, this is coming in flying high on confidence. You

1:33:58 > 1:34:06would say that the Japanese would be relatively happy despite defeat in

1:34:06 > 1:34:09the first game? They were remarkable, they were not able to

1:34:09 > 1:34:13get the victory but they gave team Sweden everything make had. It

1:34:13 > 1:34:20wasn't until the third period that Sweden pulled away. I was impressed

1:34:20 > 1:34:23to Japan's teamwork, they have good speed. You can tell that they're

1:34:23 > 1:34:27very well coached, they support each other all over the ice. It's going

1:34:27 > 1:34:31to be a much different story 14 Switzerland today compare to the

1:34:31 > 1:34:36opponent they had before. -- for team Switzerland today compared to

1:34:36 > 1:34:42the Korean team they faced before. The Japanese team putting in their

1:34:42 > 1:34:50final preparations. There are two pools in this tournament, top tier

1:34:50 > 1:34:56included the likes of Canada who had a terrific victory in the opening

1:34:56 > 1:35:03game. Also USA against Finland was 24 hours ago.

1:35:07 > 1:35:20They score! 5.8 seconds to go. And the Finns find the net. And that was

1:35:20 > 1:35:26clinical from Hovi, great work deep in the zone. When it came back, Hovi

1:35:26 > 1:35:38blasted it. The Finns lead.Just under six seconds left in the

1:35:38 > 1:35:49period. How about the past of the stick and no chance for the

1:35:49 > 1:35:55netminder Rooney.

1:35:56 > 1:36:11A good save, and then a rebound. It is a great finish from the

1:36:11 > 1:36:16is a great finish from the tenacious player, Hovi. The first save made,

1:36:16 > 1:36:22-- Lamoureux adds to her Olympic tallies. Her eighth Olympic gold and

1:36:22 > 1:36:30what a finish.Just take that puck to the net with authority and stays

1:36:30 > 1:36:34there. What a second effort from Lamoureux.

1:36:43 > 1:36:53Hillary died, what a goal! -- Hilary nights, what a goal!Finally,

1:36:53 > 1:36:59Finland punished. A great

1:36:59 > 1:37:04Finland punished. A great pass from Knight but the

1:37:05 > 1:37:08Knight but the finish from Coyne was first class. Really good work by the

1:37:08 > 1:37:14Americans.

1:37:14 > 1:37:21Americans. There is Kendall Coyne to bury it.What a fabulous shots, no

1:37:21 > 1:37:31chance at all for the netminder. Is there one chance for the finish to?

1:37:31 > 1:37:40-- the Finns? And it will be finished off. That'll do it. Finland

1:37:40 > 1:37:45concede the empty net goal, gambling to tie the game. And what a moment

1:37:45 > 1:37:53that will

1:37:53 > 1:37:58that will be for Cameranesi, her first Olympic gold on debut for her.

1:37:58 > 1:38:02The Americans have begin the run for their money but they will run out

1:38:02 > 1:38:09victors.A little bit strange on the replay, Finland only had two players

1:38:09 > 1:38:14are ice to get the puck back. The Americans had four back there,

1:38:14 > 1:38:19that's not how you want to do it. The puck gets hits to Cameranesi,

1:38:19 > 1:38:25she was able to go into the wide-open net and deposit for a 3-1

1:38:25 > 1:38:29American lead and to seal the deal.

1:38:33 > 1:38:37So, the players are out there now ready to see whether they can do the

1:38:37 > 1:38:41damage. A bit of explanation about this tournament. There are two

1:38:41 > 1:38:45pools, the US and Canada are in the top, the two favourites. Should they

1:38:45 > 1:38:48finished first and second, they get a route straight through to the

1:38:48 > 1:38:53semifinals. Three and four and then second pool, one and two, going to

1:38:53 > 1:38:56the quarterfinals. So that's what the Swiss are playing for, they want

1:38:56 > 1:39:00to finish first and make sure they play off against the fourth team in

1:39:00 > 1:39:03group one, which could be the Olympic Athletes from Russia or it

1:39:03 > 1:39:10could be potentially Finland on the strength of yesterday. The Russians

1:39:10 > 1:39:14are most likely to finish bottom. That would be a heck of a game,

1:39:14 > 1:39:25Russia and Finland. Finland looked great against the USA. So a lot of

1:39:25 > 1:39:29incentive for Switzerland to finish number one in their pool. And then

1:39:29 > 1:39:32they would cross over into the quarterfinals plagued fourth-ranked

1:39:32 > 1:39:38team from pool A.

1:39:38 > 1:39:42team from pool A.A few smiles on the bench in the last game. He

1:39:42 > 1:39:46really enjoyed his side's performance. As all the players are

1:39:46 > 1:39:53being introduced out onto the ice. The players will play in groups of

1:39:53 > 1:40:01five, three forwards and two defenders. There are two wingers and

1:40:01 > 1:40:06one centre ice player. And then to defensive players as well. You'll

1:40:06 > 1:40:13see an awful lot of the Swiss team. Each team has four units they could

1:40:13 > 1:40:17go to, the Swiss might be to roll one and two on a regular basis. We

1:40:17 > 1:40:22saw that earlier on against the Korean team until the got a lead

1:40:22 > 1:40:32that they ended up to the lines. They have Alina Muller, Sara Benz,

1:40:32 > 1:40:41Laura Stadler, but number one. -- that is their number one line.

1:40:41 > 1:40:47Florence Schelling is the netminder for Switzerland. She had it pretty

1:40:47 > 1:40:52easy in game one, I expect she's going to see a little bit more

1:40:52 > 1:40:59Robert said her way this afternoon. -- rubber sent her way. She is

1:40:59 > 1:41:04always smiling, Florence Schelling, behind her mask. The Sistine seem to

1:41:04 > 1:41:11be really enjoying the experience of the Olympics. The nickname for the

1:41:11 > 1:41:17Japanese team is team smile Japan. It's a fitting nickname. The

1:41:17 > 1:41:20Japanese players love to get onto the ice and they are taking in every

1:41:20 > 1:41:26moment. They hope those smiles translates to victory.

1:41:26 > 1:41:33Here we go, then. Switzerland with the red shirts. They will hope that

1:41:33 > 1:41:40they will be able to put some more pressure on and book their place in

1:41:40 > 1:41:45the quarterfinals without too much ado. Japan desperately need victory

1:41:45 > 1:41:48to give themselves the best chance of reaching the quarterfinals. It

1:41:48 > 1:42:02would keep it very much in their hands of that stage.

1:42:04 > 1:42:10The Raqqa to

1:42:15 > 1:42:23that goes high and Florence Schelling will hang onto it. Toko

1:42:23 > 1:42:37very influential.A wonderful opening stint for Saturday's.-- for

1:42:37 > 1:42:41the Japanese. This is the line that did all of the damage for the Swiss

1:42:41 > 1:42:43in their opening game.

1:42:56 > 1:43:03Japan try and break away with a bit of time and space with Chiho Osawa.

1:43:03 > 1:43:09That will be cleared.

1:43:10 > 1:43:15That will be cleared. Offside is called. A frenetic first minute, 19

1:43:15 > 1:43:20seconds.

1:43:20 > 1:43:24seconds.It's very early on but you can already tell that this Japanese

1:43:24 > 1:43:29team is posing a little bit of a different competition for

1:43:29 > 1:43:34Switzerland than they saw from Korea. Japan very quick. They are

1:43:34 > 1:43:39getting up on the four check in a hurry. They do not give you any time

1:43:39 > 1:43:44or space.

1:43:44 > 1:43:54or space. Japan can't keep it, though.

1:43:59 > 1:44:06The pressure is relentless from the Japanese. These two sides know each

1:44:06 > 1:44:10other very well, they have played four times across the last two World

1:44:10 > 1:44:16Championships. Switzerland have won all four of those games, including a

1:44:16 > 1:44:23relegation series which dispatched Japan to the lower tier. So that

1:44:23 > 1:44:28will be fresh in the memory of all of those players. You can bet it is.

1:44:28 > 1:44:33Any time that a team is responsible for sending you down, that will

1:44:33 > 1:44:37linger long in your memory. You can bet it is here today for Japan,

1:44:37 > 1:44:44hoping for a little retribution.

1:44:44 > 1:44:53That was a nice touch behind the back of the net.

1:44:55 > 1:44:59Japan just doing a wonderful job of hemming in this list here. This is

1:44:59 > 1:45:04their third attempt to try and get it out of the zone and they have to

1:45:04 > 1:45:09go aerial. They get the territory and the distance. And under. Easy

1:45:09 > 1:45:11enough.

1:45:27 > 1:45:33Good covering by Ayaka Toko. Good possession, this.

1:45:42 > 1:45:52Given away, Kubo comes in but offside. She knows. Bad giveaway by

1:45:52 > 1:45:57the Swiss, though. They are causing the own problems. And you have to

1:45:57 > 1:46:02attribute a lot of that to the pace we are seeing Japan playing at,

1:46:02 > 1:46:06forcing the Swiss into some uncomfortable situations. This was

1:46:06 > 1:46:12too bad here, Kubo may be six inches offside, or she would have had a

1:46:12 > 1:46:19wonderful opportunity at a scoring chance.

1:46:41 > 1:46:45Adachi trying to force Muller. She will retreat. Using the space behind

1:46:45 > 1:46:51her own the net.

1:46:51 > 1:46:59Nice pass to open things up. First real opportunity for Stalder in

1:46:59 > 1:47:02possession. The pass was lacking direction and coming back the other

1:47:02 > 1:47:10way. It floats over the top. If there is one criticism of this

1:47:10 > 1:47:16Japanese side it is the fact that they don't shoot the puck

1:47:16 > 1:47:21particularly well. They worked very hard, they get themselves into

1:47:21 > 1:47:25scoring positions and then from there have a difficult time

1:47:25 > 1:47:31converting. That is something they will want to do, directors many

1:47:31 > 1:47:41pucks at Schelling. But what speed? Aina Takeuchi. We talk about the

1:47:41 > 1:47:44position work from team Japan, they are very, very sound positionally

1:47:44 > 1:47:51and because of that they can create turnovers from Switzerland.Japan

1:47:51 > 1:48:00have it back! Great poke from Schelling. She has been busy in the

1:48:00 > 1:48:05opening 4.5 minutes of this game than she was the whole time against

1:48:05 > 1:48:11the Koreans.

1:48:11 > 1:48:20Japan with time and space in their own zone.

1:48:22 > 1:48:33Again, they cut the line a little too early. Suzuka Taka over the blue

1:48:33 > 1:48:37line. There is no real complications with offside. The players must

1:48:37 > 1:48:48follow afterwards. If the puck comes outside the blue line, every player

1:48:48 > 1:48:52has to circle out before they re-enter, otherwise it is offside.

1:49:22 > 1:49:32Japan will try and work this one away.

1:49:34 > 1:49:38The Swiss getting in each other's way a little bit.

1:49:43 > 1:49:47Their play has been crowded and that is great strength by the Japanese.

1:49:47 > 1:49:56Good defensive player! Benz! Not sure the shot got through. Another

1:49:56 > 1:50:03attempt on goal. Now Stalder, the Swiss finally rolling for the first

1:50:03 > 1:50:10time in this game. What a nice play for the Japanese to disrupt that

1:50:10 > 1:50:20pass. They were under pressure from the Stalder - Muller line. The

1:50:20 > 1:50:33volume in this building is rising rapidly. Good skating to get away.

1:50:33 > 1:50:40Simple for Schelling, just dismisses it to the corner. Switzerland have

1:50:40 > 1:50:49possession again. That will be an icing call seven minutes in, still

1:50:49 > 1:50:53goalless. The Japanese will feel pretty comfortable about all of

1:50:53 > 1:50:58this.Yeah, I think this has been the perfect start the team Japan are

1:50:58 > 1:51:04showing they can keep up with the pace of Switzerland. I've had a few

1:51:04 > 1:51:08opportunities towards a Schelling as well. From a Swiss perspective, kind

1:51:08 > 1:51:16of one of those moments where they are not going up against Korea

1:51:16 > 1:51:22anymore, this tournament is for real.

1:51:41 > 1:51:46The Swiss trying to get a stick in, certainly this third unit for the

1:51:46 > 1:51:52Swiss have found it pretty difficult to get out of their own zone. It is

1:51:52 > 1:51:56interesting to see the head coach of Switzerland, Daniela Diaz, rolling

1:51:56 > 1:52:06over the lines early on.That is well intercepted, defensively, by

1:52:06 > 1:52:14Ruegg. A great chance for Japan! Great defensive play. Now the shot

1:52:14 > 1:52:21goes high and over the top from Waidacher. One of the three

1:52:21 > 1:52:31Waidacher sisters playing, Isabel.

1:52:55 > 1:53:06There is space to work. Should be tidied up, though. That is a good

1:53:06 > 1:53:15outlet pass. Just too many white shirts.Very nice, the length of the

1:53:15 > 1:53:20eyes, that pass. But Japan are not getting fooled. Terrific support

1:53:20 > 1:53:24from the white jerseys. Two of three Japanese player helping out

1:53:24 > 1:53:25defensively.

1:53:28 > 1:53:35Now the chance up the middle! That could have been a good chance but

1:53:35 > 1:53:37good defensive player from the Japanese.

1:53:45 > 1:53:54Osawa is strong for Japan. A very good game. No goals as yet. But it

1:53:54 > 1:54:01is a really enjoyable affair. Japan with all the energy against a Swiss

1:54:01 > 1:54:16team loaded with skill. Japan right now are with Adachi. Penalty coming.

1:54:16 > 1:54:24And taken down the ice was Shoko Ono. To the penalty box for Sabrina

1:54:24 > 1:54:30Zollinger.One of the things for Switzerland, they went up against

1:54:30 > 1:54:34Korea in the opening game, an easy opponent, and now they are thrust in

1:54:34 > 1:54:41against the ninth ranked Japan. And the speed they are bringing is

1:54:41 > 1:54:46certainly causing havoc and we see a replay, what terrific work from

1:54:46 > 1:54:52Adachi. Centring it out front, right onto the take, and what a stop from

1:54:52 > 1:54:59the netminder, camp Mac. The rebound was right there for Adachi, just

1:54:59 > 1:55:04cleared away.It was great play by Ruegg to throw herself for links and

1:55:04 > 1:55:10that is the penalty.

1:55:10 > 1:55:12that is the penalty.Excellent job from Shoko Ono, forcing her into a

1:55:12 > 1:55:18situation where she had to take down the Japanese player. And an

1:55:18 > 1:55:23opportunity on the power play now for Japan to make a real statement

1:55:23 > 1:55:29early in this game. If they can get up 1-0, but check time for

1:55:29 > 1:55:33Switzerland after that. --. Check.

1:55:52 > 1:55:55Penalty will be called. As soon as Switzerland touch the puck, which

1:55:55 > 1:56:05will happen now, Phoebe Stanz is going to go, and that Tasmanian

1:56:05 > 1:56:11devil, the ambition, the emotion, it got too much. You get the good and

1:56:11 > 1:56:14bad from Phoebe Stanz. Very aggressive on the four check penalty

1:56:14 > 1:56:19kill but you can see she thrust her hip into the Japanese defender, no

1:56:19 > 1:56:25doubt about it, that is body contact and you can't do that. Phoebe Stanz

1:56:25 > 1:56:30so good in Game one. When she is moving her feet, she is effective

1:56:30 > 1:56:37but there was some ill disciplined there. So, Japan with a great

1:56:37 > 1:56:41opportunity to take the lead in this game, a two player advantage for the

1:56:41 > 1:56:42next 80 seconds.

1:56:57 > 1:57:04Schelling alive to the danger.

1:57:07 > 1:57:11Interesting, Kubo isn't out there, she is the most skilled player. The

1:57:11 > 1:57:16shot is deflected. Did it catch the post on the way past?

1:57:31 > 1:57:38Not enough of a deflection on bad shot. Switzerland can take a breath.

1:57:38 > 1:57:43Good stick from Stalder to clear that. Excellent puck movement from

1:57:43 > 1:57:46Japan but perimeter shots not able to get it right in tight on

1:57:46 > 1:57:57Schelling.Kubo is now out there. Back door play, here's a chance! She

1:57:57 > 1:58:05shoots! Schelling was up and down. In the end she did enough to

1:58:05 > 1:58:14distract Kubo who may be needed to make a pass.

1:58:16 > 1:58:20The Swiss clear away eventually and they can break into the zone with

1:58:20 > 1:58:28Raselli. The penalty is a kill, big kill.Well, Japan had the

1:58:28 > 1:58:34opportunity of the

1:58:34 > 1:58:38opportunity of the stick of Kubo. Any time you can kill off a two-man

1:58:38 > 1:58:43disadvantage, that is a huge penalty kill for Switzerland.

1:58:47 > 1:58:53Japan, who have made the running in this game so far...

1:59:01 > 1:59:06Switzerland just extending their bench a little bit here. Japan come

1:59:06 > 1:59:11into the zone again and they will try to make up for some lost time,

1:59:11 > 1:59:15as Forster brings it back the other way. Does not get it deep enough,

1:59:15 > 1:59:23though.One thing team Japan does very well is backpressure from those

1:59:23 > 1:59:30forwards. They skate hard into their own zone, helping out on the back

1:59:30 > 1:59:37check. Great job there from Kubo.

1:59:49 > 1:59:55Twin sisters, Laura

2:00:00 > 2:00:10Benz and Sara Benz, not the only sisters playing here.

2:00:11 > 2:00:14sisters playing here.There are a pair of sisters, one representing

2:00:14 > 2:00:18the USA and one career. Let's look at this on the power play from

2:00:18 > 2:00:29Japan. On the first attempt, Yoneyama gets it back to Kubo.

2:00:29 > 2:00:33Schelling up to the challenge every time and there was no daylight to

2:00:33 > 2:00:37shoot. Still love the patients. Maybe there was an opportunity but

2:00:37 > 2:00:42Kubo kept on looking for a chance and ultimately it was the shoulder

2:00:42 > 2:00:53of Schelling that made the save. Wonder. . And you can see a few

2:00:53 > 2:00:58stick slaps on the board. She's one of the big reasons why Switzerland

2:00:58 > 2:01:07could win a medal here. She is elite goal-tender. Right up there.

2:01:07 > 2:01:12Potentially on the strength of what we have seen so far, better than any

2:01:12 > 2:01:19of the North American teams' goal-tenders.Schelling is going to

2:01:19 > 2:01:25have to be wonderful as this tournament goes on.

2:01:28 > 2:01:39What are past there. -- what are past there, and the past comes from

2:01:39 > 2:01:49Sara Benz but not able to keep it in the zone.

2:01:51 > 2:02:00Phoebe Stanz is in there. The Swiss held to just one shot so far. That's

2:02:00 > 2:02:05remarkable from Japan, great team defence.

2:02:12 > 2:02:21Great six girls and Kubo over the net, that would have been one of the

2:02:21 > 2:02:28goals of the tournament!Remarkable skills from Kubo, getting past three

2:02:28 > 2:02:37Swiss players but could not find the net. Wonderful hockey.

2:02:38 > 2:02:42Kubo has that skill, that bit of magic in the stick.

2:02:48 > 2:02:53Japan on top in the first session, despite the fact the goal has yet to

2:02:53 > 2:02:58be breached. High sticks will be called but Japan do not get there

2:02:58 > 2:03:07first.

2:03:28 > 2:03:40Switzerland go after it right now.

2:03:51 > 2:03:58Better forechecking from the first unit of Switzerland.

2:04:05 > 2:04:14That will be a call. If you fire the puck from behind the red line to

2:04:14 > 2:04:18behind the goal line at the other end, then you will get some trouble.

2:04:18 > 2:04:24Let's have a look at this again, this is special.

2:04:26 > 2:04:29this is special.35-year-old Hanae Kubo, three amazing players and then

2:04:29 > 2:04:34just misses the top corner over Laura shelling. That was something

2:04:34 > 2:04:42to watch. -- Florence Schelling. Schelling matching the efforts of

2:04:42 > 2:04:50the Japanese right now. She looks so composed and calm, Schelling. Japan

2:04:50 > 2:04:54are going to need more than just a clean shot on goal to beat her, it

2:04:54 > 2:04:59seems right now. They need traffic out in front. That's one of the

2:04:59 > 2:05:04things we talked about at the beginning of the game, Japan is

2:05:04 > 2:05:07missing that one shot scorer.

2:05:17 > 2:05:20Japan has played as a possession team, and that's allowed them to do

2:05:20 > 2:05:34so much in this game. Anywhere will do. The art and under.

2:05:39 > 2:05:46We don't see Phoebe Stanz and Alina Muller out there together that

2:05:46 > 2:05:54often. That was great defensive play from Sena Suzuki. Is it a case of

2:05:54 > 2:05:58Switzerland may be having to work and is bit harder here? They have

2:05:58 > 2:06:02not moved their feet in this game as well as they could have.I think you

2:06:02 > 2:06:10are exactly right. A little little bit of a false sense to get that

2:06:10 > 2:06:16career team in the game one, they were able -- against that Korea team

2:06:16 > 2:06:20in the first game. But here in the first period, Switzerland have not

2:06:20 > 2:06:30done nearly enough.Taken out of the air, Japan back into the zone.

2:06:30 > 2:06:36Schelling with nonchalance says, thank you.Japan has had a lot of

2:06:36 > 2:06:43possession, a lot of attacks but what they really like is that scorer

2:06:43 > 2:06:48that from 15 or 20 feet out can be a dangerous shooter and cause trouble

2:06:48 > 2:06:52for Florence Schelling. They lack that. They will have to score within

2:06:52 > 2:06:56five to ten feet with traffic in front, getting some bodies in front

2:06:56 > 2:07:00of the netminder so she cannot see whether puck comes from. Maybe it's

2:07:00 > 2:07:10a rebound. But probably not from upwards of 35 feet, Schelling is

2:07:10 > 2:07:16such a quality netminder, when she sees it, she will save it.We have

2:07:16 > 2:07:22seen that a little bit from Japan, they try to win the face-off and

2:07:22 > 2:07:27feed it towards Kubo who has probably got the best shot of a

2:07:27 > 2:07:35Japanese team, the quick release.

2:07:45 > 2:07:52Looks like there has been juggling the lines here.

2:07:53 > 2:07:55the lines here. The whistle blows and we get another stoppage in play.

2:07:55 > 2:08:05And a penalty called on Japan and also on Hanae Kubo. So the first

2:08:05 > 2:08:11power play for the Swiss. You can see Kubo just sticking her stick out

2:08:11 > 2:08:17on the oncoming Nicole Bullo who goes down, and not much of an

2:08:17 > 2:08:29argument from Kubo there.A big face-off win for Japan.

2:08:35 > 2:08:42Alina Muller strong enough to get in the zone.

2:08:43 > 2:08:46the zone. Stalder is a forward who will play on the blue line in the

2:08:46 > 2:08:52power play and she has got a really hard shot. Time runs out. Alina

2:08:52 > 2:08:59Muller couldn't get the shot off, not a busy one for Nana Fujimoto.

2:08:59 > 2:09:08Japan had more of the play, and at the end, goalless.

2:09:08 > 2:09:12So, no score in that qualifier, we will be back for the second period

2:09:12 > 2:09:17in a little while. But first I am delighted to be joined on our lovely

2:09:17 > 2:09:18balcony by Aimee Fuller,

2:09:18 > 2:09:18delighted to be joined on our lovely balcony by Aimee Fuller, fresh from

2:09:18 > 2:09:24the slopestyle final. First of all, a difficult day intensive

2:09:24 > 2:09:29conditions. Can you talk through what it was like today?Yes, tough

2:09:29 > 2:09:34conditions. It was a mild way of putting it! It was a rough day on

2:09:34 > 2:09:41the field today. It was literally like going to war. Full battle head

2:09:41 > 2:09:46on, but I gave it everything I had got but as you can see, the wind is

2:09:46 > 2:09:51up and it was so inconsistent. There were breaks, it was up and down.

2:09:51 > 2:09:52Just no consistency in it.

2:09:52 > 2:09:54were breaks, it was up and down. Just no consistency in it.

2:09:54 > 2:10:01Unfortunately, just not my day and not much luck on my last run.

2:10:01 > 2:10:05Literally just taken, my feet were set from under me as if I had a sale

2:10:05 > 2:10:10attached to my snowboard. Not ideal. It is a dangerous sport but in

2:10:10 > 2:10:14conditions like this, what it is too dangerous? Did you feel that you are

2:10:14 > 2:10:18putting yourself in danger going out there today? It definitely did cross

2:10:18 > 2:10:25my mind. In training this morning, it was cancelled straightaway, which

2:10:25 > 2:10:27was quite refreshing. So we were

2:10:27 > 2:10:27it was cancelled straightaway, which was quite refreshing. So we were

2:10:27 > 2:10:30just in the tent on stand-by and then the winds dropped slightly and

2:10:30 > 2:10:36I think that gay people the optimism that it

2:10:36 > 2:10:39-- I think that gave people the optimism that it was possible. Even

2:10:39 > 2:10:46in the practice it was so inconsistent. Out of five runs, in

2:10:46 > 2:10:51three of them I had to stop because there was not anyway I would make it

2:10:51 > 2:10:56over the jumps. I made it through twice. It was basically like, do we

2:10:56 > 2:11:01run it now? The wind is forecast to get worse, two days of weather

2:11:01 > 2:11:06coming in which means it will get up to 55 K which is ridiculous. It's

2:11:06 > 2:11:11the Olympic final, what you do? They ran it and unfortunately I just

2:11:11 > 2:11:15don't think it was the best display by any means of women's snowboard

2:11:15 > 2:11:21slopestyle. The level right now is through the roof. Our sport is so

2:11:21 > 2:11:25young, fast and progressive and today was not the day for our sport.

2:11:25 > 2:11:29Give us an insight into what the conversations were like, if you can,

2:11:29 > 2:11:32what all of the riders were saying to each other, but the organisers

2:11:32 > 2:11:37were saying. We were at the top this morning and all quite relieved that

2:11:37 > 2:11:43it was postponed. And as the wind dropped, everyone was like, we can

2:11:43 > 2:11:49make this happen. I feel like everyone was just nervous over

2:11:49 > 2:11:52voicing their opinion, purely because of the fact that it's the

2:11:52 > 2:11:55Olympic final, you don't want to let it get in your head. It's almost, I

2:11:55 > 2:12:02feel like, people were in denial of how bad the wind was. Robbie, the

2:12:02 > 2:12:07head of our board or snowboarding, he's an amazing guy, he was upset at

2:12:07 > 2:12:136am and he had our best -- he was up there at 6am and he had our best

2:12:13 > 2:12:19intentions but as soon the finals and the practice was over, it

2:12:19 > 2:12:23amplified by tenfold. It was sketchy out there. It was rough and I pulled

2:12:23 > 2:12:28out on my first run because I knew that there was no way I would make

2:12:28 > 2:12:33it over the jumps. So I'm glad I made that decision, safety is my

2:12:33 > 2:12:38priority. I wanted to do as well as I could but not jeopardise my body

2:12:38 > 2:12:46for today. And my second run, I was like, this is it, the final. And I

2:12:46 > 2:12:53gave it hell for leather, and she blew, the wind got me good.I can

2:12:53 > 2:12:58see how frustrated you are, you do have another event to come, though.

2:12:58 > 2:13:03How do you use this disappointment to go home on a high in the big air?

2:13:03 > 2:13:14I've got two days off now, so some R&R is in need, the physio, I'm

2:13:14 > 2:13:18coming for you! My body is sore, my hip and my hand, I came down pretty

2:13:18 > 2:13:24hard. Hopefully less wind in the big air, it in a stadium so hopefully

2:13:24 > 2:13:34it's a little bit more sheltered from the Pyeongchang gusting wind! I

2:13:34 > 2:13:38will go out and ride might socks off and hopefully make everyone at home

2:13:38 > 2:13:44proud. I gave it my best today and the wind just took me.Not much I

2:13:44 > 2:13:49could do about it. We wish you all the best for the big air. Thank you

2:13:49 > 2:13:53very much for joining us on the balcony. Hopefully we will speak to

2:13:53 > 2:13:58you after that competition. We are going to stick with snowboarding,

2:13:58 > 2:14:01fingers crossed, indeed! It was the women's halfpipe qualifying earlier

2:14:01 > 2:14:09today. There were some serious athletes here and Chloe Kim was the

2:14:09 > 2:14:17big hero, South Korean parents, she has been adopted by this nation.

2:14:17 > 2:14:22Let's head over with all the best from the Phoenix Snow Park.

2:14:25 > 2:14:31Ladies halfpipe qualification about to get underway in what can only be

2:14:31 > 2:14:40described as very difficult conditions. Maddie Mastro. You could

2:14:40 > 2:14:47say she is the most meaningful rival to Chloe Kim at the moment. They do

2:14:47 > 2:14:55train together, they are friends. They are both going to want to win.

2:14:55 > 2:14:59Kicking things off, a huge frontside nine.

2:15:03 > 2:15:11Into a big frontside 720, opening up the front, into the flip and switch.

2:15:11 > 2:15:21720 with a flip in there. Oxide five. -- backside five. Good job.

2:15:47 > 2:15:51So, Maddie Mastro getting a score on the board. Two runs, best run

2:15:51 > 2:15:56counts, nine judges picking apart the runs, they are looking for

2:15:56 > 2:16:03difficulty, execution of tricks, variety of tricks, and amplitude.

2:16:03 > 2:16:10That is the first time you see it, the Woolwich time effect amid jump.

2:16:10 > 2:16:16There is the trademark smile from Maddie Mastro. First place. A run

2:16:16 > 2:16:22into the 80s.

2:16:22 > 2:16:30So, Queralt Castellet. Coming off the back of a win in Aspen where she

2:16:30 > 2:16:43actually be Chloe Kim -- beat Chloe Kim. She wrote in Turin when she was

2:16:43 > 2:16:50just 16 years of age, almost a veteran at 28 years of age. Backside

2:16:50 > 2:16:55wall first. Absolutely huge backside 900.

2:17:03 > 2:17:07Back-to-back 540s. Landed very high on the transition which is what the

2:17:07 > 2:17:23judges like to see. There we go, so... Queralt Castellet rides in.

2:17:23 > 2:17:29She rides in Switzerland, one of the world's best pikes. That thing is a

2:17:29 > 2:17:35work of art in Switzerland, the SuperPipe. We've got the amplitude

2:17:35 > 2:17:41metre. The pipe itself is seven metres deep from the top of the lip

2:17:41 > 2:17:46covered in blue paint down to the flat to bottom. This thing is a

2:17:46 > 2:17:53monster.

2:17:59 > 2:18:03So, it is at the moment with commissions difficult like this,

2:18:03 > 2:18:17they've just got to get a score on the board. Chloe Kim. From the USA.

2:18:17 > 2:18:22This is the Shaun White, the Lewis Hamilton of ladies snowboarding. She

2:18:22 > 2:18:33is absolutely unbeatable. He says. She has won absolutely everything

2:18:33 > 2:18:37there is to win, she is dominating pipe riding, she has won every event

2:18:37 > 2:18:41she has entered in 2018 and the only chink in her armour is the lack of

2:18:41 > 2:18:51travel. She could be in unfamiliar surroundings here, because she

2:18:51 > 2:19:02mainly resides in the USA. Big frontside seven, switch. Switch 720.

2:19:02 > 2:19:05Very nice from Chloe Kim.

2:19:11 > 2:19:17Tell you what, that is a clever, clever run from the 17-year-old. She

2:19:17 > 2:19:22will be very happy with that. She's representing the USA, born from

2:19:22 > 2:19:29Korean parents.

2:19:29 > 2:19:35She is really excited to be riding here. And she is actually... She

2:19:35 > 2:19:41took over the pattern from Kelly Clark and she has dragged women's

2:19:41 > 2:19:49half-pipe snowboarding, first woman to do back ten 18s, such a show from

2:19:49 > 2:19:56her at the X Games a few weeks ago in Aspen, Colorado, where she walked

2:19:56 > 2:20:01away with a gold. The X Games, one of the biggest events in half-pipe

2:20:01 > 2:20:07snowboarding. Getting a bit of bullet time. That's nice. She grabs

2:20:07 > 2:20:12eventually.

2:20:12 > 2:20:18eventually. 91.5!

2:20:20 > 2:20:26Liu Jiayu.

2:20:30 > 2:20:35She has a good switch method, one of the hardest thing to do, one of the

2:20:35 > 2:20:43hardest tricks. Flying across the half bottom. There is the switch

2:20:43 > 2:20:57method. Into the switch 720. Absolutely huge frontside 540. Into

2:20:57 > 2:21:03the backside... Lands flat but keeping the speed up. Into the front

2:21:03 > 2:21:11seven, double handed wave, she likes it, we like it, you like it.

2:21:38 > 2:21:40Wow, huge score.

2:21:44 > 2:21:51So, Chloe Kim.

2:21:54 > 2:21:59She has won every event she has entered in 2018. She has got such an

2:21:59 > 2:22:10incredible talent, such backside spins.

2:22:20 > 2:22:31Can she step it up at senior level? Really nice, the backside air.

2:22:31 > 2:22:38Double grab, really nice control on the double grab. Frontside nine, you

2:22:38 > 2:22:45can see the big mood twist. Slightly unorthodox. Frontside seven!

2:22:45 > 2:22:53Inferred at the bottom, and that is an improvement for me as well. She

2:22:53 > 2:22:59can just... If she is a racing driver, she's able to turn it on

2:22:59 > 2:23:04when she needs to, able to find that extra gear, and she has found it

2:23:04 > 2:23:10there. In many ways what she has done is she has just signalled to

2:23:10 > 2:23:18the entire field, she has smoke signal to the rest of the field and

2:23:18 > 2:23:27said I'm only in third gear. Look at the double grab. Then this was

2:23:27 > 2:23:33really nice.

2:23:33 > 2:23:43really nice. Frontside nine. Here is the indy grab, the backhand.

2:23:44 > 2:23:46the indy grab, the backhand. A beaming smile, and it is an

2:23:46 > 2:23:54improvement. 95.5! Chloe Kim, we will see you tomorrow.

2:24:02 > 2:24:05So, Matsumoto.

2:24:16 > 2:24:20Second in the mammoth in the World Cup, so she has had a podium before

2:24:20 > 2:24:26but she is seventh here last time around.

2:24:43 > 2:24:53Really nice run. Currently fourth. Not sure she will improve.

2:25:06 > 2:25:19Backside five. She had 900s, she had sevens, she had the variety which is

2:25:19 > 2:25:26what the judges like to see. Moving on from here on in, it is all about

2:25:26 > 2:25:32the amplitude, it is all about the landing, going higher and landing

2:25:32 > 2:25:38nearer to the top of the pipe, that is what the judges want to see. Also

2:25:38 > 2:25:49getting those grabs nice and solid. Just tickling it there.

2:25:53 > 2:26:03So, there we go. Well, that is the story, ladies and gents. 95.5, Chloe

2:26:03 > 2:26:08Kim, the absolute red-hot favourite coming into this, as proved exactly

2:26:08 > 2:26:13why. She has absolutely smashed the field. Tamara's battle in the

2:26:13 > 2:26:17half-pipe, you've got to say, will be a battle for silver because at

2:26:17 > 2:26:22the moment as it stands, it looks like nobody will get anywhere near

2:26:22 > 2:26:30Chloe Kim. However, Maddie Mastro, Queralt Castellet, she has beaten

2:26:30 > 2:26:39Chloe Kim before. Then you have Emily Arthur, Thovex, and Arielle

2:26:39 > 2:26:49Gold. The USA have all four protagonists in there.

2:26:50 > 2:26:53protagonists in there. Tamara's final is going to be very, very

2:26:53 > 2:26:54interesting indeed.

2:26:59 > 2:27:04So, Chloe Kim living up to her and ailing, let's see if she can hold

2:27:04 > 2:27:09her nerve in the final when it gets under way tomorrow. And you can see

2:27:09 > 2:27:16that on BBC One at 1am. We will head back for the second period of

2:27:16 > 2:27:24Switzerland against Japan in the scoreless hockey match.

2:27:25 > 2:27:30Japan survived a scare on the power play but now they are trying to

2:27:30 > 2:27:35create their fence. Still goalless in this one. Another attempt comes

2:27:35 > 2:27:40in on goal. It is all push and shove. Trying to create something,

2:27:40 > 2:27:49trying to make something happen. Look at this effort from Raselli.

2:27:49 > 2:27:53One person effort. Just lost her footing at the end and missed that

2:27:53 > 2:28:02shot as she was falling down. Right after that, number 88, Phoebe Stanz,

2:28:02 > 2:28:04always creating something on the eyes. You know she's out there

2:28:04 > 2:28:09because you see the black blades on her skates moving several miles an

2:28:09 > 2:28:15hour.

2:28:27 > 2:28:35Japan will try to bring it back the other way. Attempt on goal dangerous

2:28:35 > 2:28:43only because it nearly hit one of the Swiss players.

2:28:43 > 2:28:52This could be a real chance! Driving deep into the zone.

2:29:07 > 2:29:15Eventually, touched by Terashima and heading to the box is Yoneyama. A

2:29:15 > 2:29:24second power play tough to argue this one.It is a race to the

2:29:24 > 2:29:30corner, she beats Yoneyama and Yoneyama gets the stick on the arms

2:29:30 > 2:29:37and shoulder of Stalder.

2:29:37 > 2:29:42and shoulder of Stalder. Just over four minutes in, Switzerland get

2:29:42 > 2:29:49their second opportunity on the man advantage.

2:29:56 > 2:30:02One player advantage for the next two minutes. Against a perfect

2:30:02 > 2:30:06Japanese penalty kill so far, yet to concede.

2:30:11 > 2:30:17Bullo side of the net, couldn't finish it off. Another attempt in on

2:30:17 > 2:30:26goal, held onto by Fujimoto. This was the second power play unit by

2:30:26 > 2:30:29Switzerland out there. And they came very close, let's watch on this

2:30:29 > 2:30:39first replay. The long shot. Fujimoto up to the task. And now I

2:30:39 > 2:30:45think Daniela Diaz will put out her number one unit with other Mac and

2:30:45 > 2:30:51Stalder upfront.

2:31:11 > 2:31:25It tight situation, this. 50 seconds now remaining. On the penalty.

2:31:37 > 2:31:43A penalty is coming as Alina Muller has her stick slashed out of her

2:31:43 > 2:31:55hands.It's going to be Alyn let that gets the penalty here. -- Alina

2:31:55 > 2:32:04Muller gets the penalty. A race for it, Muller Impey did the progress of

2:32:04 > 2:32:08the Japanese player, she tried to let go of her stick at the last

2:32:08 > 2:32:14second to show, I'm not doing anything wrong. But Naho Terashima,

2:32:14 > 2:32:20a hi-fi from the bench. -- high five. Great work to create a

2:32:20 > 2:32:27penalty.

2:32:28 > 2:32:36Whistle will blow here, offside. As we are skating four on four

2:32:36 > 2:32:40momentarily. Loads of space out there on the ice. This is where your

2:32:40 > 2:32:45best skaters out there, interestingly the Swiss have gone

2:32:45 > 2:32:51with Isabel Waidacher and Ruegg, not to have their strongest skaters.

2:32:51 > 2:32:58You're right, the first power play unit, Stalder and Phoebe Stanz were

2:32:58 > 2:33:03just on the ice, maybe they need a bit of a break. There's not much

2:33:03 > 2:33:08time left in the Japanese penalty so for long, Japan will go to the power

2:33:08 > 2:33:10play.

2:33:18 > 2:33:21Japan take this one in deep.

2:33:25 > 2:33:35One of the Swiss players has lost her love. -- glove.

2:33:35 > 2:33:41Now the Swiss are killing a penalty. They only have four out skaters on

2:33:41 > 2:33:47the ice, as opposed to the five of Japan. How long will it be before

2:33:47 > 2:33:52Kubo is here? But drug-macro making a move but in the end three white

2:33:52 > 2:33:58shirts muscle her away.

2:34:11 > 2:34:16Too many players on the ice. For the Japanese. That allowed at the window

2:34:16 > 2:34:28of not -- opportunity for Nicole Bullo.

2:34:34 > 2:34:40Kubo was offside as the pass came into the zone.A little or no

2:34:40 > 2:34:45organised -- unorganised from Japan. A strange play earlier, the Japanese

2:34:45 > 2:34:48have all of the time and space with the puck on the power play and the

2:34:48 > 2:34:53new player coming onto the ice did not want to touch the parks, thought

2:34:53 > 2:34:58it might be too many players on the ice, that allowed Switzerland to

2:34:58 > 2:35:04clear it.So, face off in neutral eyes.

2:35:12 > 2:35:16The Swiss just wants to take the time of the clock at the moment.

2:35:19 > 2:35:29That was a great play. I glanced to the referee from the Japanese

2:35:29 > 2:35:37players, they wanted a penalty. They won't get it, though. Power play

2:35:37 > 2:35:48expired and a real chance! Just wide. Goodness me.

2:35:48 > 2:35:57wide. Goodness me. Aimee Nakamura didn't even force the save.

2:36:01 > 2:36:11What an opportunity that was.How about that play? The eye hand

2:36:11 > 2:36:18coordination for Hanae Kubo to knock the puck them midair and keep it in

2:36:18 > 2:36:25the zone, and terrific passing right from the front.Japan again sneaking

2:36:25 > 2:36:30into the zone, looking at options here. Good tracking back but the

2:36:30 > 2:36:35shot goes wide of the target. Alina Muller couldn't keep possession.

2:36:40 > 2:36:45The whistle goes, and interference penalty will be called. A bit of

2:36:45 > 2:36:52indiscipline here, I think it will be Haruna Yoneyama who goes to these

2:36:52 > 2:36:55ten of the box for the second time and the Swiss have another power

2:36:55 > 2:36:59play.This is a tough penalty to take, you never want to take a

2:36:59 > 2:37:02penalty in the offensive zone, especially with the pressure that

2:37:02 > 2:37:08Japan had been flying.

2:37:08 > 2:37:15It's in front of the net. You see the player lying on the ice. Those

2:37:15 > 2:37:22two were battling. In the end, Haruna Yoneyama, this will be the

2:37:22 > 2:37:35better angle.A backpass right in front. What an opportunity for Matt

2:37:35 > 2:37:42Aimee Nakamura. A spin around the backhand pass for Tokyo. -- for

2:37:42 > 2:37:49Toko. She does a spin around but a right pad save from Schelling keeps

2:37:49 > 2:37:57it a 0-0 game.She had a lot more time than she realised. Had she

2:37:57 > 2:38:01turned, the forehand opportunity was there. To her credit she had her

2:38:01 > 2:38:09back to the net. It was such a bang, bang play.Easier from this

2:38:09 > 2:38:19distance.Even easier from watching it in slow motion. Since we are back

2:38:19 > 2:38:22in the power play, Japan doesn't wants to play with fire too often

2:38:22 > 2:38:34because the Switzerland power play does have some firepower.

2:38:34 > 2:38:39does have some firepower.Muller, Stanz and Raselli upfront.

2:38:43 > 2:38:51Haruka Toko is the forward, I

2:38:51 > 2:38:55Haruka Toko is the forward, Ayaka Toko is the defensive player.

2:39:02 > 2:39:08Switzerland under so much pressure. And two options when you're killing

2:39:08 > 2:39:11a penalty. Either you go very passive and take away the middle, or

2:39:11 > 2:39:17your forced. We're seeing Japan being very aggressive, especially on

2:39:17 > 2:39:23entry into the zone, taking away the options from Switzerland.

2:39:32 > 2:39:37Switzerland try a line change. Christine Meier's attempt to pass it

2:39:37 > 2:39:40didn't really go too well but maybe Switzerland will do something of

2:39:40 > 2:39:47this.

2:39:53 > 2:39:59Quick shot from Ruegg, it goes in! Something of nothing from Sara Benz.

2:39:59 > 2:40:06Just a spin of the throw at the net. And it completely took Moeko

2:40:06 > 2:40:10Fujimoto by surprise. She was expecting it to go back to the blue

2:40:10 > 2:40:17line, I think everybody in the building was. But Sara

2:40:18 > 2:40:21building was. But Sara capitalises and they take the lead. What a great

2:40:21 > 2:40:25heads up play from Sara Benz, the long shot from Ruegg goes wide and

2:40:25 > 2:40:31Sara Benz picks it up off the end boards and watch Fujimoto, she does

2:40:31 > 2:40:34not expect this whatsoever. She thinks that Sara Benz is going to

2:40:34 > 2:40:39pass this back to the point. And like you mentioned, she falls

2:40:39 > 2:40:43everyone in the building, most importantly Fujimoto, the

2:40:43 > 2:40:49goal-tender. She just fired it up high over the shoulder. A real heads

2:40:49 > 2:41:00up play. One but Fujimoto would have had an easy save had she been

2:41:00 > 2:41:03squared to the shooter. She left a bit of room on the side.We have

2:41:03 > 2:41:12seen plenty of short side goals in the tournament so far. Will that be

2:41:12 > 2:41:14The Swiss team?

2:41:16 > 2:41:26Where is the puck? The referee is right on the spot.

2:41:26 > 2:41:29right on the spot. It is somewhere underneath everybody. A pile of

2:41:29 > 2:41:35bodies.That is quite a flurry in front of Fujimoto. You can see Laura

2:41:35 > 2:41:40Benz, the Swiss player, asking the referee what was going on. Let's

2:41:40 > 2:41:49have a look at this replay, Ruegg's shot misses and then she just fired

2:41:49 > 2:41:54it on net. She didn't even look, she had her head down, she was just

2:41:54 > 2:41:58tried to put it on goal and may be hope for a rebound and Fujimoto not

2:41:58 > 2:42:04expecting it at all. Beat her up to the shoulder, she had gone down and

2:42:04 > 2:42:14the puck went up.Babel take it. -- they will take it. They were very

2:42:14 > 2:42:21happy as that went in.Sara Benz was being the provider in game one,

2:42:21 > 2:42:29three assists, she had each on Alina Muller's goals. This time she opens

2:42:29 > 2:42:33the scoring in the second period. And right after that, the Swiss

2:42:33 > 2:42:39rated no time in coming the length of the ice. There was a scrum in

2:42:39 > 2:42:44front of the net. I think they might have team looking at if there was a

2:42:44 > 2:42:49Japanese player who got a glove on the puck. That is what Laura Benz

2:42:49 > 2:42:54was asking for, there were Japanese and Swiss players on the crease. You

2:42:54 > 2:43:02cannot put your hand on the puck unless you are the goalie, in the

2:43:02 > 2:43:09blue line. Or maybe the puck crossed the goal line. We didn't see any

2:43:09 > 2:43:13celebration so we don't know if that happened. You can see the referee

2:43:13 > 2:43:19from freedom on the headset. -- from Sweden.Talking to the officials

2:43:19 > 2:43:24upstairs. Let's see from this angle. We can't see anything of the puck at

2:43:24 > 2:43:30this stage. So there's no way to clearly say whether or not it's gone

2:43:30 > 2:43:38over the line from that angle. Maybe this will tell us more. The puck

2:43:38 > 2:43:41right now is under Fujimoto, it comes out of the pad. This is where

2:43:41 > 2:43:45they will try and force it in again. There it goes. It never comes out

2:43:45 > 2:43:49the other side. Can anybody have a better position than the referee

2:43:49 > 2:43:55there?No, she was in a terrific position. Great camerawork it, you

2:43:55 > 2:44:04can see the puck, it gets pushed towards Fujimoto. It's got to be

2:44:04 > 2:44:12definitive.After video review, no goal.No goal, quite rightly as

2:44:12 > 2:44:19well. That is where VA artworks in some sports, less well in others, as

2:44:19 > 2:44:27football has fallen out! -- football has found out. A little pause means

2:44:27 > 2:44:32we get the right decision on the ice, it works in hockey. Confirmed

2:44:32 > 2:44:36by those in need video booth. You just want to take a little extra

2:44:36 > 2:44:42time, not too much, just to make sure. Especially on such a big

2:44:42 > 2:44:50stage, how important these games are.

2:44:56 > 2:45:02A backhand shot, really labelled that one towards the net.

2:45:07 > 2:45:12Bee has become a bigger force in this game. She skates very, well. --

2:45:12 > 2:45:19Raselli has become a bigger force in this game, she skates very well. The

2:45:19 > 2:45:26shot misses by some distance from Japan. Block in front.

2:45:32 > 2:45:35Japan going back to what they have done so well in this game, keeping

2:45:35 > 2:45:41the pressure on.

2:45:41 > 2:45:45the pressure on. Inside outside penalty coming. Bit unfortunate, I

2:45:45 > 2:45:50think.

2:45:53 > 2:45:56think. Having conceded a power play goal, they don't want to go on the

2:45:56 > 2:46:01penalty kill again. This is Phoebe Stanz making something out of

2:46:01 > 2:46:08nothing, faking it, then cutting to the outside.

2:46:09 > 2:46:13the outside. She has been so good, Hosoyamada. Still has a smile on her

2:46:13 > 2:46:17face but you nailed it, just giving up one power play goal, you don't

2:46:17 > 2:46:24want to give this Swiss team too many opportunities. They have it

2:46:24 > 2:46:29with Meier. She sends it all the way back, second chance and good save,

2:46:29 > 2:46:37Fujimoto. It was Raselli who it fell to, great area and no pressure.A

2:46:37 > 2:46:42little bit of a bouncing puck. She has a terrific one-time shot, she

2:46:42 > 2:46:48lets it rip. The pass from Meier. Doesn't quite make it through, comes

2:46:48 > 2:46:54right back under Raselli and it was bouncing a little bit and she

2:46:54 > 2:47:00couldn't get too much on is that puck.

2:47:00 > 2:47:10A chance for Raselli! Fujimoto does well.

2:47:10 > 2:47:17well.That was a heavy effort from Raselli.

2:47:20 > 2:47:25Back to the blue line. Working it, here's Meier.

2:47:27 > 2:47:32Power play is one for four so far.

2:47:43 > 2:47:48That was too easy, simply blocked. And now Meier is in a bit of

2:47:48 > 2:47:54trouble. Oh, what a pass! And a chance and a goal! Benz's second of

2:47:54 > 2:48:04the game. Meier' pass, as Switzerland almost go

2:48:04 > 2:48:10coast-to-coast, scoring a second power play goal. Sara Benz cashes in

2:48:10 > 2:48:15and Switzerland now lead by to make. This is one of the nicest goals

2:48:15 > 2:48:19you'll see. Look at the presence of mind from Meier, firing at all the

2:48:19 > 2:48:25way to the blue line. Sara Benz in stride, coming off the bench, so she

2:48:25 > 2:48:31was able to sneak in behind the Japanese defenders, full stride,

2:48:31 > 2:48:36gets head up over the block of Fujimoto. And then the dramatic

2:48:36 > 2:48:43finish as she slides into the net as well. But what a pass from the

2:48:43 > 2:48:47number 19, Christine Meier. The forwards were in a line change, and

2:48:47 > 2:48:51Sara Benz came off the eyes confusing Japan a little bit because

2:48:51 > 2:48:55there is no way she should have been as wide open as she was to walk in

2:48:55 > 2:49:07and, make no mistake.Lovely finish as well from Sara Benz. Making her

2:49:07 > 2:49:10move and then finishing. And that maybe is the difference. Japan have

2:49:10 > 2:49:15had similar kinds of opportunities but missed the net or they have

2:49:15 > 2:49:18managed to find the Swiss net minder.

2:49:24 > 2:49:29That is something we've talked about, Japan lacking these scoring

2:49:29 > 2:49:35touch like that.

2:49:35 > 2:49:39touch like that.Shishiuchi switched it towards the net and Kubo again

2:49:39 > 2:49:45nearly snuck in again.

2:49:46 > 2:49:51nearly snuck in again. It is touched in front by Kubo who has got a

2:49:51 > 2:49:57little bit of attitude with how she plays. Drove hard at the net and was

2:49:57 > 2:50:03given the attention of a couple of Swiss players.Love to see that from

2:50:03 > 2:50:07Kubo. That is how they are going to score from Schelling, get in front

2:50:07 > 2:50:15of her. She gets up, she was angry. If you can tick off the netminder.

2:50:15 > 2:50:20Look at this pass straight up the eyes from Meier, about an 85 foot

2:50:20 > 2:50:27pass right onto the tape and then look at this shop from Sara Benz.

2:50:27 > 2:50:34She'd already scored high on the power play goal. This time she goes

2:50:34 > 2:50:40block aside. Not so sure how the camera did in the back of that net.

2:50:40 > 2:50:43They have the automatic cameras to take the still shots, they have the

2:50:43 > 2:50:48other camera at the top, which is the one we saw the replay from

2:50:48 > 2:50:51earlier on. It is all smiles from the Swiss bench, those two goals

2:50:51 > 2:51:00give them enough comfort here. Plenty of colour in the stands, lots

2:51:00 > 2:51:07of flag-waving going on. Another six periods to go in the period, a good

2:51:07 > 2:51:11one for Switzerland, they've scored two goals as Schelling passes that

2:51:11 > 2:51:16one nicely. No icing will be called here.

2:51:24 > 2:51:30Stanz is completely instinctive in how she plays. Sometimes that is a

2:51:30 > 2:51:38great thing and sometimes that'll drive you to the point of

2:51:38 > 2:51:42distraction.She's sometimes in the right position and sometimes she is

2:51:42 > 2:51:50in. One thing is for sure, when she is on the eyes, you have to be aware

2:51:50 > 2:51:58of her. -- when she is on the ice.

2:51:58 > 2:52:02Dallying on the puck.

2:52:06 > 2:52:11Referee just in the way and that allows Japan to bring this one

2:52:11 > 2:52:20clear, and they do just that. Yoneyama... Tied up well by Gass.

2:52:20 > 2:52:25Too many Japanese players would have been on the ice there. So they

2:52:25 > 2:52:28didn't played. Had they played the puck, it would have been another

2:52:28 > 2:52:39penalty. Those are the nature of the line changes. You're allowed some

2:52:39 > 2:52:43latitude, as having more players on the ice but if it comes in you, you

2:52:43 > 2:52:50can't touch it.

2:52:50 > 2:52:52can't touch it. Ruegg, deep inside her own half. Gets a another

2:52:52 > 2:53:02opportunity. A slow pass to Stalder, who tries to return the favour.

2:53:02 > 2:53:15Comfortable enough. Suzuki gets it clear. The pass opens everything up.

2:53:15 > 2:53:22Nice back check from Isabel Waidacher and then she goes the

2:53:22 > 2:53:27other way.

2:53:28 > 2:53:37Of the three Waidacher sisters, Isabelle gets the most ice time.

2:53:37 > 2:53:46Kubo driving hard to the net. Still, Japan deep in the zone and may be

2:53:46 > 2:53:51causing problems here. It is line one against line array. Schelling

2:53:51 > 2:53:58drops it but makes the first save. That was a poor pass out of the zone

2:53:58 > 2:54:04meaning that they can come in again.

2:54:04 > 2:54:11A swing and a miss from Kubo but she gets there first. Uses the good

2:54:11 > 2:54:15skating trying to poke into the front. They get a second chance.

2:54:15 > 2:54:20She's with Raselli.

2:54:21 > 2:54:29She's with Raselli. Raselli tidying everything up.

2:54:40 > 2:54:46Fujimoto hanging onto it. Face-off in the Swiss offensive zone with two

2:54:46 > 2:54:5722 remaining. Sara Benz. Two goals of her, three assists in the opening

2:54:57 > 2:55:03game, now she is being the goal-scorer. Right before that, very

2:55:03 > 2:55:09nice try from actor, a little backhand pass, Fujimoto to cover

2:55:09 > 2:55:15that.

2:55:47 > 2:55:55Japan will clear down the ice. Icing call. The Swiss cranking up the heat

2:55:55 > 2:56:02right now and this one line in particular looking really good.

2:56:02 > 2:56:05Stalder, Benz and Muller looking dangerous every time on the ice.

2:56:05 > 2:56:13She's trying to go back door hoping for the hat-trick, nice drop from

2:56:13 > 2:56:18Fujimoto, steering that away. Team Japan is so disciplined in their own

2:56:18 > 2:56:23zone, doing a great job in their position play, we saw Switzerland

2:56:23 > 2:56:29throwing a blind pass. A pretty easy interception from Japan to clear it

2:56:29 > 2:56:32away so Switzerland have to manage the puck a little better

2:56:32 > 2:56:41offensively.Ruegg rewarded with extra ice time, going out with the

2:56:41 > 2:56:50Stanz line. Here is a chance for Osawa. No problems dealing with

2:56:50 > 2:56:53that, Schelling, no time for the Swiss defence to spend on the puck.

2:56:53 > 2:57:03Spinning away. That was Phoebe Stanz.

2:57:03 > 2:57:10Stanz. Osawa goes into the body and Schelling hangs on. Under a minute

2:57:10 > 2:57:16remaining, safety is the best course of action for the Swiss.Well, the

2:57:16 > 2:57:20captain Osawa has had wonderful speed tonight. You can see what

2:57:20 > 2:57:26she's doing, she recognises her line may go into the net, just wanted to

2:57:26 > 2:57:30get it through and now she's coming down the right side of the ice. Not

2:57:30 > 2:57:39a whole lot of pays to that shot, pretty easy save for Schelling.

2:57:39 > 2:57:46Stalder chasing that down the other end. Face-off down the other end as

2:57:46 > 2:57:50Fujimoto hangs on. Interesting Daniela Diaz is shortening the

2:57:50 > 2:57:55bench, taking Ruedi out of the equation.

2:58:06 > 2:58:15Meier has offensive instincts as a defender.

2:58:26 > 2:58:32Alina Muller sending this one high but still kept in by Japan. Could've

2:58:32 > 2:58:41been a case of offside there. Toko involved again, Haruka Toko, she has

2:58:41 > 2:58:47been very good today.Has she ever! She makes a play on Sara Benz early

2:58:47 > 2:58:51in the shift, cutting her off at the blue line. You talk about the fine

2:58:51 > 2:58:56line when it comes to body checking, she walked it very nicely.Oddie

2:58:56 > 2:59:01checking not allowed in the game, the women's game, body contact by

2:59:01 > 2:59:09all means. Japan, one last chance to end the second session. And it has

2:59:09 > 2:59:14been a good one from the Swiss perspective. They've bounced back

2:59:14 > 2:59:19with two good markers in the second session. And make twice beating

2:59:19 > 2:59:24Fujimoto. Schelling solid as ever at the ever end and Switzerland are

2:59:24 > 2:59:31leading 2-0.

2:59:34 > 2:59:37So, the Swiss with the advantage with that one. You can continue

2:59:37 > 2:59:43watching it on the BBC Red Button. If you've just joined us, here are

2:59:43 > 2:59:48the headlines on day three of the Winter Olympics. The women's giant

2:59:48 > 2:59:53slalom fell victim of the weather robbing us of a chance of one of the

2:59:53 > 3:00:04potential standout stars of these Games. There were celebrations

3:00:04 > 3:00:06Games. There were celebrations in Canada, a talented team turning

3:00:06 > 3:00:12Sochi silver into Jung Chang gold. In a slopestyle competition badly

3:00:12 > 3:00:15disrupted by bad wins, Jamie Anderson became the first female

3:00:15 > 3:00:23snowboarder ever to win two Olympic gold medals by defending her title.

3:00:23 > 3:00:25From the Hockey

3:00:25 > 3:00:29From the Hockey Centre to the Curling Centre. The team event is a

3:00:29 > 3:00:34new event at this year's Winter Olympics, teams consist of one man

3:00:34 > 3:00:38and one woman, we have reached the semifinal stage. One of the

3:00:38 > 3:00:42favourites Canada are up against Norway so we will join Jackie

3:00:42 > 3:00:49Lockhart and Steve Cram for the best bits at the end this match.

3:00:53 > 3:00:55The winners go into

3:00:55 > 3:00:59The winners go into the final to contest the gold medal, the losers

3:00:59 > 3:01:02go to the bronze medal match which will be played tomorrow morning

3:01:02 > 3:01:11local time. The same time tomorrow in the wee small hours back home.

3:01:11 > 3:01:16Her accuracy has just dropped a little bit, from 80% into 70, but

3:01:16 > 3:01:25she has been playing pretty well. It was that

3:01:25 > 3:01:31was that one end, wasn't it?Yes, she threw her stoned a little tight.

3:01:31 > 3:01:36I thought we may have seen the power play happen in this end but Canada

3:01:36 > 3:01:44have chosen not to play it here. That is the interesting thing

3:01:44 > 3:01:49because they won't have the opportunity. You can't use it in the

3:01:49 > 3:02:00extra end.Interesting to see how the strategy has gone on this one.

3:02:00 > 3:02:04So she needs to be right up on the house. Would want to bounce of

3:02:04 > 3:02:23anything, looking for a freeze. There's a lovely shot.

3:02:24 > 3:02:35Could she be coming on to form on the last two ends?

3:02:35 > 3:02:46You can see the clock ticking away on the background.

3:02:57 > 3:03:07Pretty good shot as well. Just having it a little closer.

3:03:07 > 3:03:09having it a little closer.You don't always have to go for the shot, it's

3:03:09 > 3:03:17about the angles and setting things up for your next shot. Very

3:03:17 > 3:03:23energetic game, the mixed doubles. Physically fit, there's a lot of

3:03:23 > 3:03:28sweeping and often just one sweeper, and you got to have your heart rate

3:03:28 > 3:03:34drop and recover very quickly to sit down and be able to throw and

3:03:34 > 3:03:42finesse a well delivered stone. Norway doing a good job of not

3:03:42 > 3:03:47giving John Morris too many opportunities for that big shots.

3:03:47 > 3:03:54Having to draw in here again.

3:03:54 > 3:03:59Having to draw in here again. Both of them sound happy with this.He

3:03:59 > 3:04:07doesn't want to bounce off it, he just wants to stop.

3:04:09 > 3:04:18That's a good stone.I like listening to the Canadians, because

3:04:18 > 3:04:27they're always chatting, always speaking, always communicating.

3:04:35 > 3:04:42So, he will continue where he left off last time.

3:04:43 > 3:04:55off last time. He's going to throw a clockwise. He will want a straight

3:04:55 > 3:05:01tap, he will need to be on the top face of the yellow. You see it

3:05:01 > 3:05:09curling a lot at the ends. This has not got enough of it.Is that a good

3:05:09 > 3:05:16bad one, do you know what I mean? What he has done, he has edged his

3:05:16 > 3:05:27top level in. And that's harder. Identikit helps us leaving...Going

3:05:27 > 3:05:38for another one.He just always seems to want to throw a big stone.

3:05:38 > 3:05:43I think it's a smart move. That first match, when they lost to

3:05:43 > 3:05:47Norway, I think you said, they didn't play their own game, the

3:05:47 > 3:05:53natural game. Maybe over thinking the mixed doubles. If he catches as

3:05:53 > 3:05:57much as he can see, even the half of the red stone, it should catch the

3:05:57 > 3:06:04yellow in the house. He is hoping to get the back yellow as well. His

3:06:04 > 3:06:11accuracy has been very good. He's conceded half of the red stone. He

3:06:11 > 3:06:22didn't catch the back one.So close. Good shot, though. From John Morris.

3:06:22 > 3:06:30Just watch this.Oh, that...

3:06:30 > 3:06:31Just watch this.Oh, that...Just not enough, glancing blow. Move it

3:06:31 > 3:06:40half an inch, no more. This is becoming crucial now. The

3:06:40 > 3:06:53penultimate end. Leading by one.The stones are all in a line now.So can

3:06:53 > 3:07:00they use that to come across? They just not that Canadian backs on out.

3:07:00 > 3:07:04He's not going to go for the actual shots, the red stone, he's going to

3:07:04 > 3:07:11use his back 12 remove the background. And then when he -- his

3:07:11 > 3:07:14back one, to remove the back red stone. So that makes it harder for

3:07:14 > 3:07:20Canada to throw the big shots to get the high school. -- high school.

3:07:29 > 3:07:37So, again, no room for error here. Using his own stone, Nedregotten.

3:07:37 > 3:07:45Right on the face, right on the nose. That is a mistake.

3:07:46 > 3:07:52nose.That is a mistake.Brian Grazer in the crowd. -- Bryan Gray,

3:07:52 > 3:07:58in the crowd. He coaches the Finnish team, he's a Scottish lad.Ideally,

3:07:58 > 3:08:06this.What they have to be very careful of here, if they're coming

3:08:06 > 3:08:10up into the shops, that they don't leave it at an angle. So normally

3:08:10 > 3:08:15they can remove two of them.I don't know where it will be a good shot.

3:08:15 > 3:08:25Right in the pocket if I throw halfway.IKEA? OK. That's fine.He

3:08:25 > 3:08:30doesn't want to hit and roll and leave a mess. Then Norway could come

3:08:30 > 3:08:38up and tap them back a. And then the reds become Canada's enemy because

3:08:38 > 3:08:44they don't want to get the yellow out. If he knows is it, it's a

3:08:44 > 3:08:53disaster.Make sure we don't give her that in order. There is the

3:08:53 > 3:08:58clock ticking away, Canada with just four minutes, one more end to come.

3:08:58 > 3:09:06Getting a bit tight on time.Yes, you are probably looking at three

3:09:06 > 3:09:09minutes and end. That means rushed shots when you don't want to be

3:09:09 > 3:09:16rushing. So the draw from John Morris. Trying to make sure they

3:09:16 > 3:09:22score well here. One more stone for Norway after this. Then Kaitlyn

3:09:22 > 3:09:29Lawes will have the last stone. This is looking good, God is to work it,

3:09:29 > 3:09:35though. -- got to work it.It was actually all the way out there but

3:09:35 > 3:09:40the minute the weight comes off, there's a huge swing.

3:09:44 > 3:09:48So, they're going to try and pare the shot that he didn't manage to

3:09:48 > 3:09:57make last time.Is that right? Yes, she's going to try and catch her

3:09:57 > 3:10:00own, she had not got much room to play with but she has the

3:10:00 > 3:10:05opportunity of and counting that back read. -- out counting that back

3:10:05 > 3:10:16read stone. We know Kaitlyn Lawes, she's certainly been better in the

3:10:17 > 3:10:22previous end, the way she has been playing, the more pressure that

3:10:22 > 3:10:31Kristin can apply. She has been very good at her drawers, so it is these

3:10:31 > 3:10:39hit shots that she's got to execute well.Stealing herself. More weight

3:10:39 > 3:10:44on this, and just trying to hit about, their own stone, the yellow.

3:10:44 > 3:10:52And roll across. That's not bad. Again, catching it a little bit on
