:01:48. > :02:08.portions of the UK, the south and east staying

:02:09. > :03:02.The last of 12 new events in the games, snowboarding's Parallel

:03:03. > :03:08.Slalom exits debut. -- makes its debut.

:03:09. > :03:11.The women's marathon, 30 kilometres of racing on skinny skis and we

:03:12. > :03:19.could be in for another classic jewel between Bjorgen file check. --

:03:20. > :03:30.and Koval check. Britain's first man to win a winter

:03:31. > :03:32.Olympic medal of any colour, Dave Murdoch and his team have buoyed

:03:33. > :03:40.everybody up with their curling silver.

:03:41. > :03:47.It wasn't quite the curling grand finale we had hoped for, but we are

:03:48. > :03:54.not complaining. Dave Murdoch said silver is still supercool, after his

:03:55. > :03:59.mental were rather outmuscled by the Canadians -- his men.

:04:00. > :04:03.There is a perception about curling that it is a genteel sports, it

:04:04. > :04:10.stands out from the rest of the Olympic events, but make no mistake.

:04:11. > :04:17.On their, in the ice, this is going to be a battle.

:04:18. > :04:27.In David Murdoch we have a leader who has been defeated before, both

:04:28. > :04:32.in jewellery and Vancouver, it ended badly, but he believed this was his

:04:33. > :04:38.high. We also know these chances don't come along very often.

:04:39. > :04:44.Putting so much work with these guys, it is a dream come true, we

:04:45. > :04:48.are going to do everything we can, fight till the last.

:04:49. > :04:52.Do you go through the same torture everybody else does?

:04:53. > :04:57.I have been watching this for 20 years with the family, I tend to be

:04:58. > :05:02.the quieter one, maybe get packages near the end. I don't get too

:05:03. > :05:07.excited. He is an amazing skip, and amazing leader.

:05:08. > :05:11.He leads the others on, and drives them to be the shots they do.

:05:12. > :05:16.Then ultimately that is curling, it comes down to him.

:05:17. > :05:22.That is when I started get a wee flutter.

:05:23. > :05:37.The first end was dramatic, Canada at point line four.

:05:38. > :05:46.COMMENTATOR: What a great shot! Fantastic shot.

:05:47. > :05:53.The sweeper is watching it, they will guide it in, nice straw from

:05:54. > :05:54.the Canadian skip, get their two in the first end. They do have the

:05:55. > :06:04.early lead. Murdoch went straight into the

:06:05. > :06:10.huddle, big smile. Cannot be that bad. Britain got one back in the

:06:11. > :06:18.second. COMMENTATOR: It will be close. It is

:06:19. > :06:26.not the two he wanted. Going to catch the guard. Oh, dear.

:06:27. > :06:35.They need to work that hard to get past for instance. -- their own

:06:36. > :06:39.stone. We have been hanging on, asking him to make a big shots, he

:06:40. > :06:47.said he couldn't keep doing that. He has been trying to rescue his team.

:06:48. > :06:53.Couldn't be going any worse. This has got to be right, he must get the

:06:54. > :07:02.two here. He is looking to get an edge, it needs to move. Has it got

:07:03. > :07:12.anything? It has got to turn quick enough to be able to catch that

:07:13. > :07:24.Canadian stone. Stop there. Has he even got one? Move your head, can't

:07:25. > :07:34.see. That was close. It is yet another little notch ratcheted up.

:07:35. > :07:37.With one and to go before the break getting back on the board was

:07:38. > :07:41.crucial. This should be good enough for one.

:07:42. > :07:46.I think it is. Pretty close to a terrible start. It

:07:47. > :07:50.is not the start we wanted. We really had to come out firing and

:07:51. > :07:57.keep the score close. Is it all over? It is not over until the last

:07:58. > :08:04.stone is thrown, there are ten ends to go. If we can get a two back here

:08:05. > :08:08.and still a couple, just to get the scoreline tighter and put pressure

:08:09. > :08:13.on Canada. We need to step up a gear and place the more shots.

:08:14. > :08:19.Great Britain were really up against it. That is another two. A big gap

:08:20. > :08:32.now. STEVE CRAM: this is a huge mountain

:08:33. > :08:36.to climb. Not a lot of chances. Murdoch's men had the hammer, they

:08:37. > :08:47.needed to score two to have any chance of getting back into the

:08:48. > :08:49.game. That is sad. It has just been the

:08:50. > :08:56.story of this Olympic final. 8-3 down, and Murdoch had very few

:08:57. > :09:11.options. They have fought hard in this final

:09:12. > :09:16.to try and resurrect something, get something going. It has been an

:09:17. > :09:24.upsell struggle. -- uphill struggle. By Jacob sending out what could be

:09:25. > :09:32.the last stone. -- Brad Jacobs. They will be 9-3 ahead. He just needs to

:09:33. > :09:37.sit here. Canada lead 9-3. There is a discussion going on with the

:09:38. > :09:43.British team. That visit. I don't see them finishing this. This is the

:09:44. > :09:49.game over. Enough is enough. Brad Jacobs and his team the medallists.

:09:50. > :09:54.Dave Murdoch and his team will reflect in the coming hours, on a

:09:55. > :10:01.silver medal which was thoroughly deserved. HAZEL IRVINE: They have

:10:02. > :10:12.just surfaced. We got to be pretty late, we thought

:10:13. > :10:17.we deserved celebration. A great week, and enjoy the moment. I am

:10:18. > :10:22.sure it was very well-deserved. When you look back on it all, does the

:10:23. > :10:26.pleasure far outweigh the pain of defeat?

:10:27. > :10:30.It does now. It was pretty tough last night, not the performance we

:10:31. > :10:34.wanted, we believed we could get that gold, just had that bad start

:10:35. > :10:39.or put us on the back foot. At the end of the day you look back, it has

:10:40. > :10:42.been incredible. To come away with silver, it is something we have been

:10:43. > :10:46.chasing for some time, great to get a medal.

:10:47. > :10:53.You are chasing the game from the start. You played a brilliant last

:10:54. > :10:56.stone to limit the damage. Unfortunately we didn't get our

:10:57. > :11:01.stones in the right place. Against these boys, they can hit, once you

:11:02. > :11:04.are done you never really clawing back. Was in the game we wanted but

:11:05. > :11:12.we can still hold our heads high and we got our silver medal.

:11:13. > :11:16.And you knew they just loved to hit, they were going to play a

:11:17. > :11:19.hitting game all day. They are pretty well known for

:11:20. > :11:25.that. We will always struggle to get back in when we are four down, but

:11:26. > :11:31.we came down from four down against Denmark. Didn't gripe that the

:11:32. > :11:36.stones in the right place and went further behind.

:11:37. > :11:43.It was a fairly muscle-bound match. Some people felt it was fairly

:11:44. > :11:45.intimidating, out there. Fair play to Canada for putting you through

:11:46. > :11:54.that. Watching it from the sidelines, what was the feeling like

:11:55. > :11:57.between the teams afterwards? You don't really say much, to be

:11:58. > :12:03.honest. By the time you go through all the press and all that, and some

:12:04. > :12:10.of them were drug tested as well, you don't see much of them. You

:12:11. > :12:18.shake their hand, say well played, move on, do our own thing.

:12:19. > :12:23.There was an interesting moment, will you auditioning early for the

:12:24. > :12:27.charity curling calendar? It wasn't ideal, putting the wrong T-shirts

:12:28. > :12:32.on. I was getting changed and I had the T-shirts we work around the

:12:33. > :12:40.village, the same ones as we play in. I accidentally kept it on.

:12:41. > :12:44.It was a very funny moment. We will always remember the progress

:12:45. > :12:52.to the final, particularly the matches against Norway and Sweden.

:12:53. > :12:59.Which was the better shot, the double against Norway or the draw to

:13:00. > :13:05.beat the Swedes? I would definitely say the draw to be the Swedes in the

:13:06. > :13:11.semifinal, get that medal. To be Norway, you get the chance to play

:13:12. > :13:16.Sweden. We have had great shots throughout the week to put ourselves

:13:17. > :13:23.in that position. And Dave, do you remember those

:13:24. > :13:30.shots? Certainly be Norway one, this is do or die time, we got the call

:13:31. > :13:34.right, just hope we have got the angle is correct and we did. When

:13:35. > :13:38.you make a shot like that to go through to the semifinal, it is

:13:39. > :13:42.spectacular. You one of three men that has taken

:13:43. > :13:45.part in three games but for your rink here, this is the first time.

:13:46. > :13:52.When you think about what you have achieved, what has it done for you,

:13:53. > :13:59.increased the appetite for more? I think so. Right now we will enjoy

:14:00. > :14:02.the silver medal, take a bit of time-out, and going forward,

:14:03. > :14:07.certainly for myself I want to get back to the next Olympics and try

:14:08. > :14:11.and do something special there. How do you capitalise on what has

:14:12. > :14:14.been a fantastic time for curling, with a bronze for the women and the

:14:15. > :14:19.sulphur for the men's, what can curling do to make sure it is

:14:20. > :14:26.muscling in on the publicity? -- silver. A lot of rinks get people

:14:27. > :14:30.through the door, there is a big uptake in people wanting to try it,

:14:31. > :14:37.it is about capitalising on that I'm holding onto these people, getting

:14:38. > :14:43.them to come back, it is difficult, because of the season. We are in

:14:44. > :14:49.February, a lot stop in April because it is September until April.

:14:50. > :14:52.You tend to lose them over the summer a little bit and come

:14:53. > :14:56.September people have forgotten about it and moved on. It is about

:14:57. > :15:03.capitalising on that, hopefully the governing body can come up with ways

:15:04. > :15:10.and attract them and keep the people coming. You will be able to say that

:15:11. > :15:24.your moment because you will receive your medals later. What will you

:15:25. > :15:28.cherish from this campaign? There are so many great memories. Just

:15:29. > :15:33.being here for the first day and taking everything in and seeing the

:15:34. > :15:39.apartment and being around all of these other affiliates and then,

:15:40. > :15:45.obviously, when in the semifinal and beating Norway. So many memories, we

:15:46. > :15:52.cannot pinpoint just one. How different is this? How much of a

:15:53. > :15:56.step up from the World Championship? It is massive, but we treat the sick

:15:57. > :16:01.any other major Championship. We have been in the world finals and in

:16:02. > :16:05.European medal matches but it is amazing to get away with that medal.

:16:06. > :16:11.We are talking about the homecoming and is not only when you get home to

:16:12. > :16:24.Aberdeen and Prestwick and sterling that you really will understand just

:16:25. > :16:29.what is happening at home. Right now, I am probably the most talked

:16:30. > :16:32.about person in Forfar. It is great to have the whole nation behind you

:16:33. > :16:37.and we should really think the nation for that support. It has been

:16:38. > :16:43.great, we have been on social media throughout and it has been

:16:44. > :16:49.brilliant. It has. And you certainly deserve those accolades. There was

:16:50. > :16:52.going to be you, Claire and Anna walking down the High Street in

:16:53. > :16:58.Lockerbie with Olympic medals. Can you give us some idea of what that

:16:59. > :17:03.will mean to your community? Incredible, for a small time like

:17:04. > :17:07.that, it is great news. And the bad news that was in that time, such a

:17:08. > :17:15.nice place and everybody has supported us. It was great to have

:17:16. > :17:19.that support. The place has a lot of fond memories for me, a lot of good

:17:20. > :17:25.people I will want to see and celebrate with. I am sure we shall

:17:26. > :17:31.all join in. Can I just say thank you for everything you have done for

:17:32. > :17:35.curling and Great Britain, it has been an absolute delight. Thank you

:17:36. > :17:41.very much. And well played. Enjoy your silver medal. We shall head up

:17:42. > :17:48.the mountain because we are back on the snow. We are going snowboarding.

:17:49. > :17:51.This is one of the 12 new events for the Olympic Games, the parallel

:17:52. > :17:57.slalom. The same as the parallel Giant Slalom but much tighter turns

:17:58. > :18:03.and a lot more gates. Ed and Tim can take us through that. Welcome to the

:18:04. > :18:08.Rosa could Extreme Park for the final day. A brand-new event.

:18:09. > :18:14.Conditions could not be better? It was raining yesterday. But the sun

:18:15. > :18:25.has come out and we have perfect visibility and all that moisture has

:18:26. > :18:31.frozen so it is absolutely no proof. We must look at the Swiss. They will

:18:32. > :18:34.be looking to double up. But there will be stiff competition. The

:18:35. > :18:42.Russian is the current world champion. And on home soil in such

:18:43. > :19:04.close proximity, she will be cheered home. Also the world, the Russian,

:19:05. > :19:07.he has a chance to become the first to get gold in two games. The

:19:08. > :19:16.Russians have had so much to cheer on. The red and the blue. The

:19:17. > :19:20.fastest combined over both. It will be Fast and Furious and any mistakes

:19:21. > :19:26.will be punished. This is snowboarding, the parallel slalom.

:19:27. > :19:32.No tricks or judges, just speed. This is another brand-new chapter

:19:33. > :19:38.four Olympic sport. We will join them live at the Extreme Park. We

:19:39. > :19:42.are trying to your places for the quarterfinals and we have got Tim

:19:43. > :19:50.and Edward and this could be another family affair? Gold in the Giant

:19:51. > :20:02.Slalom, and his wife getting bronze in her event. They are up for it

:20:03. > :20:06.again? She is in fine fettle. And lick wild, qualifying tomorrow --

:20:07. > :20:15.this morning, they have looked brilliant. -- Vic Wild. They will

:20:16. > :20:25.have to build a brand-new mantelpiece for all of those medals.

:20:26. > :20:54.Out of the gates. 49 Micro closest to the camera. -- 49 Micro.

:20:55. > :21:13.This course is just 380 metres long with a vertical drop of 80 metres

:21:14. > :21:17.and is this long, flat section in the middle. And when you see the

:21:18. > :21:21.riders coming over and you get that changing pitch, the temple also

:21:22. > :21:28.changes and you have to be on your game. But is where we have seen a

:21:29. > :21:49.lot of races won and lost. The number one seed. 75 Micro.

:21:50. > :22:07.Looking very smooth. Did you see that? The riders are using their

:22:08. > :22:10.boards like coiled springs. The diving into the turns on the nose

:22:11. > :22:19.and as they come through the turn, they start shifting weight onto the

:22:20. > :22:31.tail. And the accelerate so, six Micra.

:22:32. > :22:50.That is a very good showing. We have seen some very tight racing so far.

:22:51. > :22:54.It is incredibly stiff. Unlike all of the other freestyle disciplines,

:22:55. > :23:11.you cannot I these snowboards in the shops. They are custom made.

:23:12. > :23:18.Talking about those boards, you could not ride on these unless you

:23:19. > :23:23.are of this standard. They are just so stiff and unforgiving. We have

:23:24. > :23:28.talked about this, coming out of the start, it is very difficult to ride

:23:29. > :23:34.them until you get up to full speed. It is like a superbike. So effective

:23:35. > :23:41.in the parallel slalom. Neck and neck. There is a sense of holding

:23:42. > :23:47.nerve. Not letting the pressure get to you. In your peripheral vision,

:23:48. > :23:56.you can see your opposite number. And the desire to try to let it hang

:23:57. > :24:05.out. Ina Meschik, just taking it easy. And a maximum penalty time...

:24:06. > :24:11.That is 5% of the fastest qualifying time. If you come in half of the

:24:12. > :24:25.second behind, you will only have that deficit. And that gate, the

:24:26. > :24:33.second run, it will not open for 1.25 seconds, which can seem like an

:24:34. > :24:47.absolute lifetime. Back up to the top. Heat number seven. Selina Jorg.

:24:48. > :24:55.And Anke Karstens. The Germans will have done this so many times. Anke

:24:56. > :25:00.Karstens is a police officer. She just missed out in Vancouver. She

:25:01. > :25:05.will be desperate to rectify that. Straightaway. Selina Jorg, she is

:25:06. > :25:24.building up a bit of a lead. Anke Karstens, this is so close. It

:25:25. > :25:35.is like gamer image. Coming into the finish. Selina Jorg just takes it.

:25:36. > :25:46.There is so much for the Germans to cheer here. Looking at it, of those

:25:47. > :25:50.four riders, they are all on one side of the draw, so they will only

:25:51. > :26:03.be able to get one of them into the final. That is a shame. Yes. The

:26:04. > :26:19.second-fastest qualifier. 20 oh macro. Up against Natalia Soboleva.

:26:20. > :26:25.-- Ester Ledecka. They will force the nose into the gate. And they can

:26:26. > :26:34.spring out. That is a very good start from Natalia Soboleva. Ester

:26:35. > :26:47.Ledecka, hitting form. That is close at the moment. Nice and soft. Ester

:26:48. > :26:57.Ledecka just seemed to take care of that. And the tempo changes. She has

:26:58. > :27:03.got more speed. She has got it! Six hundredths of a second ahead. This

:27:04. > :27:11.crowd will be roaring when they go in for that second run. Both ladies

:27:12. > :27:18.just 18 years old. The rising stars of Alpine snowboarding. I must say,

:27:19. > :27:31.Ester Ledecka has been phenomenal this year. 15, 16, 17. That was in

:27:32. > :27:35.2012. In this winter season, she has moved up in the parallel slalom,

:27:36. > :27:43.second place. Giant Slalom, she is third in the world. That is very

:27:44. > :27:55.impressive. And the junior in. On paper, she looks to be one of the

:27:56. > :28:05.strongest. That was a masterclass. It is time for the men. Taking the

:28:06. > :28:14.first run. Some names to look out for. Three tenths of a second lead

:28:15. > :28:25.from Vic Wild. Absolutely phenomenal. You could not have

:28:26. > :28:33.described any more perfectly. He had lightning for breakfast! He has just

:28:34. > :28:37.looked absolutely phenomenal. His training partner was second placed

:28:38. > :28:45.qualifier. Whatever these boys are doing, they are doing it right. So,

:28:46. > :28:53.Vic Wild, out of the gate already. Bordering on embarrassing! It is

:28:54. > :28:59.surgical. He is so fast on his tail. You must give it to Michael Lambert,

:29:00. > :29:08.he is managing to sit with them. Beautiful transition. He was

:29:09. > :29:16.airborne. He just makes that look so easy. The biggest deficit between

:29:17. > :29:22.two riders when someone did not follow. Phenomenal from Vic Wild. He

:29:23. > :29:27.definitely has a second gold medal in his sights. I think he has

:29:28. > :29:34.sprinkled glass on his breakfast also! That was incredible, and we

:29:35. > :29:39.talk about the control of the edge and the board pressure. Just

:29:40. > :29:48.generating through the edge of that board. Just sitting down on the

:29:49. > :29:52.short side of those gates. Looking so relaxed and the confidence he is

:29:53. > :30:04.taking into each race, knowing he is winning this easily. We he has just

:30:05. > :30:15.seen his wife go down and beat one of the top seeds so he is extremely

:30:16. > :30:26.happy at the moment. Roland Fischnaller and Kaspar Flutsch. Both

:30:27. > :30:32.of these men looking very quick, Smith, fluid through the turns.

:30:33. > :30:37.Roland Fischnaller is very tall, but he is beautiful. You think he would

:30:38. > :30:45.be more suited to Parallel Giant Slalom but he gets down and it

:30:46. > :30:53.works. Kaspar Flutsch went wide and it really cost him.

:30:54. > :31:10.He has looked good, Roland Fischnaller. For the big guy he can

:31:11. > :31:17.whip his board around. His head and shoulders don't move outside the

:31:18. > :31:24.gates that much, he is centred and level, just swinging his legs out.

:31:25. > :31:31.Really nice technique. Not quite as surgical as Vic Wild. Very smooth,

:31:32. > :31:46.nonetheless. Patrick Bussler and Rok Marguc. I

:31:47. > :31:49.love those gloves he has got. He was looking really good in the Parallel

:31:50. > :31:57.Giant Slalom until he fell over. He has looked good here. There is a lot

:31:58. > :32:09.of pace from Patrick Bussler on the blue course. Onto this bottom pitch

:32:10. > :32:17.now. The little mistake fare from Marguc and he has let Bussler back

:32:18. > :32:19.in. That just goes to show, you can make any mistakes. If you make one

:32:20. > :32:39.mistake, you get punished. Everything looks better

:32:40. > :32:46.inflammation. -- slow motion. Trying to get as far forward as they can.

:32:47. > :32:52.Diving for the line. Benjamin Karl of Austria against Andreas

:32:53. > :33:00.Prommegger of Austria. They have just a strong showing in the men's

:33:01. > :33:03.as the Germans have in the women's. Benjamin Karl and training Parallel

:33:04. > :33:17.Giant Slalom champion. As we have seen with a German woman,

:33:18. > :33:29.pretty much a mirror image. Benjamin Karl just a little way back on the

:33:30. > :33:41.Redgate. A bit of a mistake from Benjamin Karl, Prommegger will

:33:42. > :33:48.capitalise on that. It is only one slip and as the course softens up we

:33:49. > :33:57.will see more and more mistakes. The groups will get deeper, difficult to

:33:58. > :34:04.keep your age. All that awaits them underneath is concrete ice. You will

:34:05. > :34:10.have slush and you will just bounce through the ice, not pleasant at

:34:11. > :34:23.all. Andreas Prommegger, he has had to ninth places here. Another

:34:24. > :34:36.Austrian, the old rivalry. Again Stefan Baumeister, the German.

:34:37. > :34:54.Lukas Mathies, so far steak results. -- some fantastic results. Good

:34:55. > :35:00.form. Really low in those terms. There is the tempo change. Beautiful

:35:01. > :35:09.technique as he comes into the finish.

:35:10. > :35:22.It barely looks like he broke a sweat. Such a short, intense course.

:35:23. > :35:29.While they'll be steering using their weight, by bending your knees

:35:30. > :35:38.together you can flex the snowboard. Rotating them out and pulling your

:35:39. > :35:44.knees together, you can arc the radius of the board to a much

:35:45. > :35:45.tighter circle. Even more so with these boards, because you have got

:35:46. > :35:58.ski boots on. Simon Schoch of Switzerland on the

:35:59. > :36:08.bread course. Aaron March of Italy on the blue course.

:36:09. > :36:19.He will not have his brother for company in these eliminations

:36:20. > :36:35.stages. He managed sometimes to say that. Incredible. How did he get

:36:36. > :36:41.back up? That was ridiculous. Just took a little power nap of way down.

:36:42. > :36:47.He drove out of the turn so hard he got airborne. Then he lay down on

:36:48. > :36:54.his stomach, engaged his edge and stood back up again. Too much in the

:36:55. > :37:00.back-seat, didn't go forward. It shows how stiff those boards.

:37:01. > :37:09.Somehow he got back around that gate. Simon Schoch, who announced he

:37:10. > :37:14.will retire after the event to date, he will struggle to get back

:37:15. > :37:24.in that race, incredible save, regardless.

:37:25. > :37:30.The man who leads the World Cup standings at the moment in the blue

:37:31. > :37:46.course. Impressive start for both of them. The only Frenchman in this

:37:47. > :37:55.elimination round. Nevin Galmarini, he looks like he is working a bit

:37:56. > :38:06.harder. He is actually quite slight. He is out, Mr gate, disqualification

:38:07. > :38:31.for him. -- he has missed a gate. He will take the full penalty time.

:38:32. > :38:41.Nevin Galmarini, he has got one foot in the quarterfinals. Just a toe

:38:42. > :38:46.left dangling. Second place qualifier, Zan Kosir, training

:38:47. > :38:54.partner of Vic Wild, up against Jasey-Jay Anderson. Snowboarding has

:38:55. > :39:04.been in the Olympics for five and a big cycles and he has been in all of

:39:05. > :39:06.them. -- five Olympic cycles. Look at the speed and technique of the

:39:07. > :39:27.Janklow say. -- Yann Kosir. He is back in, risking it. He came

:39:28. > :39:40.right back into that and pushed him hard.

:39:41. > :39:46.It is a little and just for Jasey-Jay Anderson. Having a little

:39:47. > :39:59.fun as they arrived in the finish area. I was saying about Jasey-Jay

:40:00. > :40:03.Anderson, you can see your man pulling away, you just want to let

:40:04. > :40:14.loose on the turns, carry some speed. It snowballs, almost. You get

:40:15. > :40:17.a bit faster, everything starts to dangle out a little bit more and

:40:18. > :40:25.before you know it you make a mistake. To keep your head and think

:40:26. > :40:41.I am not going to open it up. He did it well. Did any of that make sense?

:40:42. > :40:52.We are back to the women now. If Katarina Witt

:40:53. > :41:27.Look at that. She has it all to do now. She has got nothing to lose.

:41:28. > :41:35.She has gone. Marion Kreiner just taking her time. I am not sure if

:41:36. > :41:40.she missed a gate. Heartbreak for the Russian.

:41:41. > :41:47.Marion Kreiner will advance. The bronze medallist from Vancouver, in

:41:48. > :41:50.Parallel Giant Slalom, makes it through to the quarterfinals. The

:41:51. > :41:56.only remaining medallist from Vancouver who is still in this

:41:57. > :42:02.contest. Parallel Slalom is a new event for snowboarding at the games.

:42:03. > :42:08.It is almost exactly the same field as we see for Parallel Giant Slalom.

:42:09. > :42:14.Quite easy to cross over. Slightly different technique. You need to be

:42:15. > :42:19.far more precise with your terms. Less margin for error. The course is

:42:20. > :42:23.so much shorter you have got to be perfect, consistent all the way

:42:24. > :42:33.down. A bit like squash and racquetball.

:42:34. > :42:44.Claudia Riegler, seventh in Vancouver. She has got 100th of a

:42:45. > :42:52.second to make up. Karina Boccacini of Italy. She is fired up, the

:42:53. > :42:59.Italian. She has got so much internal rage she can channel. She

:43:00. > :43:05.is like a caged animal. Claudia Riegler, lovely technique. They are

:43:06. > :43:16.like a metronome at the moment, total symmetry. I am impressed with

:43:17. > :43:20.Boccacini. Claudia Riegler, heartbreak. For a 40-year-old,

:43:21. > :43:24.really wanted a little bit more success for her. I am sure she will

:43:25. > :43:31.be very proud to have made it through to the eighth finals.

:43:32. > :43:39.Disappointment she made it a bit further. She maybe would have hoped

:43:40. > :43:51.to be battling it out for a medal, maybe. It is a shame. Karina

:43:52. > :44:07.Boccacini, she walks away with that one. I don't know what happened

:44:08. > :44:08.there, washed out on the ice. Either way she has gone down, it is

:44:09. > :44:33.heartbreak for her. Back to the top. Alena Zavarzina,

:44:34. > :44:49.only three weeks of a broken arm. Up against Julia Dujmovits. A great

:44:50. > :44:58.start from the Austrian. She is in the lead, just slightly. Alena

:44:59. > :45:06.Zavarzina is under pressure. They come onto the final section. Careful

:45:07. > :45:12.with the mistakes. Whoever crosses the line first will go through. It

:45:13. > :45:18.is the Austrian. The husband and wife team will not get to repeat

:45:19. > :45:34.their medal winning performance from the Parallel Giant Slalom. That is a

:45:35. > :45:39.shame. You have to say, the best lady was the winner. I would have

:45:40. > :45:46.the same level of disbelief if I saw them do this twice, the first man

:45:47. > :45:58.who find the duck billed platypus must have felt that way! That is not

:45:59. > :46:05.real! So... The Russian who took bronze in the Giant Slalom loses out

:46:06. > :46:08.to Julia Dujmovits. I always think of the first man to climb onto the

:46:09. > :46:20.back of a wild horse! He was a brave man. Almost as brave as these.

:46:21. > :46:26.Taking on this icy course. Tomoka Takeuchi. Silver medallist in the

:46:27. > :46:34.Giant Slalom. Looking to take on Julie Zogg. From Switzerland. Tomoka

:46:35. > :46:43.Takeuchi is the first Japanese female medallist in snowboarding.

:46:44. > :46:50.She is on the blue course. And she is pulling away quite comfortably at

:46:51. > :46:56.the moment. Julie Zogg on the blue course, actually. That little

:46:57. > :47:04.mistake! That has let Tomoka Takeuchi in! Julie Zogg managing to

:47:05. > :47:08.just hold her nerve. Tomoka Takeuchi must have seen she made that mistake

:47:09. > :47:14.but she instantly did the same thing. It gets to that point of this

:47:15. > :47:18.course because you come over that and the tempo changes and you settle

:47:19. > :47:23.into that tempo and you think, because it slows down, you think, I

:47:24. > :47:28.am going to slow. And you speed up again. And discipline goes out the

:47:29. > :47:32.window and use bid up and on this lower part of the course, you just

:47:33. > :47:36.need to keep that tempo slower because this is where mistakes have

:47:37. > :47:44.been made. Those gates suddenly widen up. Your buildings so much

:47:45. > :47:51.speed and you must slow things down. So, disappointment for Tomoka

:47:52. > :48:04.Takeuchi, but she will go home with a silver medal. She is OK. She wants

:48:05. > :48:19.another gold medal. But she has a deficit. Against the German, Amelie

:48:20. > :48:27.Kober. Patrizia Kummer, early on on this course... The German is going

:48:28. > :48:38.very well. However, just going wide, there. This is neck and neck. They

:48:39. > :48:45.can see each other perfectly. I think Amelie Kober has got this.

:48:46. > :48:55.Yes! She has got it. One tenth of a second separating them. It is not to

:48:56. > :49:03.be for Patrizia Kummer, she was on the hunt for her record second gold

:49:04. > :49:09.medal. By one woman in one Olympic Games. No woman has ever done this

:49:10. > :49:12.in snowboarding before. Amelie Kober did what many people thought could

:49:13. > :49:20.not be done and she took time the Swiss maestro. The current world

:49:21. > :49:28.tour leader as well. That was so close! Amelie Kober has been looking

:49:29. > :49:35.very good. If she can keep that going... She got a silver medal in

:49:36. > :49:45.Jordan. A couple of good performances. Especially with those

:49:46. > :49:56.parallel performances. Back to the top. The Austrian, Ina Meschik. Up

:49:57. > :50:02.against Isabella Labock. Isabella Labock will take the maximum

:50:03. > :50:10.penalty. This will seem like forever! The world will be going in

:50:11. > :50:17.slow motion. She has got that advantage. And Ina Meschik will know

:50:18. > :50:23.that she cannot take your foot off the gas but she might be able to

:50:24. > :50:36.look in her her a few times. -- murder. -- mirror. She is looking

:50:37. > :50:45.very good. Ina Meschik. Well, she is catching up. It will be very tight!

:50:46. > :50:54.That was so unlucky! She made up one second on that run. If it was not

:50:55. > :51:00.for that mistake on the first run, I think we would have a very different

:51:01. > :51:04.outcome. As it stands, well... You have talked about this, it is much

:51:05. > :51:09.easier to chase someone than to hold them back. When you have a target in

:51:10. > :51:22.front of you, you have got something to aim for. Ina Meschik, Olympian

:51:23. > :51:31.twice. Sixth place in Vancouver. Very strong moving forward. Back to

:51:32. > :51:42.the top. Heat number seven. All-German. Anke Karstens. Against

:51:43. > :51:54.Selina Jorg. Some shouting. Firing up. Selina Jorg, really good,

:51:55. > :52:02.competing at a national level. Nothing in that. Selina Jorg, on the

:52:03. > :52:09.blue course. Just in the lead, probably. That was a lovely couple

:52:10. > :52:17.of turns from Anke Karstens. She has gone into the lead. That is a very

:52:18. > :52:30.good technique and Selina Jorg is under pressure. Straightening up.

:52:31. > :52:39.Two hundredths! You can hear just how much that means to Anke

:52:40. > :52:52.Karstens. Oh my goodness! She sounds like she has just fined ?20 in her

:52:53. > :53:00.pocket! -- find. -- found. She has not gone over to consult team-mate.

:53:01. > :53:04.Well, it is the Olympics! This is the one that you do want to win. You

:53:05. > :53:15.can see the discolouration of that snow, cutting through that. This

:53:16. > :53:20.will be so tired. Look at this! You have to say, with that little bit

:53:21. > :53:33.between them, I think that Selina Jorg was leaning back too far. I

:53:34. > :53:37.think Selina Jorg preloaded to just spring out. And she just could not

:53:38. > :53:45.get former. She was always in the back seat. She could not get any

:53:46. > :53:55.more forward. I would do the Peter Pan! Just died for it. Ester

:53:56. > :54:10.Ledecka. And Natalia Soboleva. They have shown so much form. Can Natalia

:54:11. > :54:15.Soboleva get back into this? They have turned up the volume. And she

:54:16. > :54:20.has responded. They drop into that finish. There was a little bit of a

:54:21. > :54:25.wash from Natalia Soboleva. Scrubbing of some speed. That will

:54:26. > :54:34.set up nicely. She just needs to settle down. You can hear the crowd.

:54:35. > :54:40.They are going crazy! It has just gone for Ester Ledecka. She has had

:54:41. > :54:49.so many good results this year. She has been building. And then first

:54:50. > :54:56.twice coming into this event. So, Ester Ledecka wins that battle. And

:54:57. > :55:08.there are only three more left between her and a gold medal. I

:55:09. > :55:15.think that Natalia Soboleva was too cautious at the top. It was

:55:16. > :55:26.literally those last two. That was all it was.

:55:27. > :55:39.Disappointment for Natalia Soboleva. Ester Ledecka. Taking her breath.

:55:40. > :55:59.That was pure disappointment that we were witnessing before. But it was

:56:00. > :56:03.really. So, Marion Kreiner. Anke Karstens will face Ester Ledecka.

:56:04. > :56:09.The quarterfinals coming up after the men's event. They have got the

:56:10. > :56:23.second run. The first eight men to be eliminated. Another good crowd.

:56:24. > :56:32.The last day of place will see. And confirmation of the quarterfinals.

:56:33. > :56:38.This has been a great venue at the Extreme Park. We have had the

:56:39. > :56:48.parallel slalom today. And the Giant Slalom as well. Slopestyle.

:56:49. > :57:01.Halfpipe. Skiing and snowboarding. It has been pretty epic, to say the

:57:02. > :57:12.least. What should happen here is Vic Wild should actually give

:57:13. > :57:18.Michael Lambert a head start! It is just demoralising. Anything can

:57:19. > :57:25.happen. This will be his biggest competitor, himself. He just has to

:57:26. > :57:31.take stock and relax and ride like he knows he can. And on this form,

:57:32. > :57:37.Vic Wild will be in the final. That is the first sporting cliche I have

:57:38. > :57:48.heard you use! His biggest enemy will be himself! Look at that. An

:57:49. > :57:51.absolute masterclass again. They have got a television at the start

:57:52. > :57:59.gate and a lot of men will wonder how on earth they can beat Vic Wild.

:58:00. > :58:23.The only man with a decent idea is as trainer. When they meet, it will

:58:24. > :58:33.be like Rocky and Apollo Creed. How good is the end of Rocky II? Vic

:58:34. > :58:38.Wild, the American who defected to Russia. Because the Alpine snowboard

:58:39. > :58:46.programme is not good enough in America. He married for citizenship.

:58:47. > :58:52.And he is competing in Sochi. He already has one gold medal. But most

:58:53. > :59:02.smart for the Americans. When you consider the wrist not one American

:59:03. > :59:16.in the elimination coming here. So, Kaspar Flutsch. Roland Fischnaller.

:59:17. > :59:20.He is coming down this course like a piece of string moving from side to

:59:21. > :59:29.side. Really nice style. Sitting on his back leg. Through some of those

:59:30. > :59:35.turns. And Kaspar Flutsch might just get this? Only just got that! When

:59:36. > :59:43.you consider that Kaspar Flutsch started behind. That was a

:59:44. > :59:54.phenomenal performance by him. But 102 macro... The Swiss have got a

:59:55. > :00:04.very good programme in place. -- Roland Fischnaller. This will be his

:00:05. > :00:10.best Olympic performance today. 13, 18 and 19, dating back to Salt Lake

:00:11. > :00:23.City. His Olympic dream is still alive at the moment. Roland

:00:24. > :00:36.Fischnaller, he is a baby at only 32. Especially with advances in

:00:37. > :00:47.medical science! David and Goliath! So, 100 and Aaron March. -- Rok

:00:48. > :00:52.Marguc. That gate will open sewer. He knows what he has to do. Ash

:00:53. > :01:02.macro slower. That was a very good start. Nothing between them. Rok

:01:03. > :01:06.Marguc, his arms are down by his ankles. He looks like a monkey

:01:07. > :01:13.swinging through trees. He is just so in control! Can you believe that?

:01:14. > :01:17.He is back up and he has managed to keep his speed. He will just

:01:18. > :01:34.hope... He is really clipping those gates. He looks over his shoulder

:01:35. > :01:44.and celebrates the win. It is the pitch change, not just the timing of

:01:45. > :01:50.the gates, that catches people out. They are not looking at the gate

:01:51. > :01:56.they are about to write, they have already committed to it, so when

:01:57. > :02:01.they are at the apex, they do react and they have two reactor, however

:02:02. > :02:05.they have already set their turn so they'll already thinking about the

:02:06. > :02:08.next gate. Any changes in the slow condition or the ice knocks them off

:02:09. > :02:18.kilter. Patrick Bussler is another one who

:02:19. > :02:26.is shining here. He hasn't made it past a round of 16 before. At the

:02:27. > :02:36.Olympics, at least. He had shocking World Championships. Benny Karl and

:02:37. > :02:40.Andreas Prommegger. Benny Karl, feels like he has been around for

:02:41. > :02:49.ages, probably the most high profile of all the Alpine snowboarders. One

:02:50. > :02:58.of the guys who made it cool within free cell snowboarding -- freestyle.

:02:59. > :03:05.Put him on an Alpine board and he can do this. Benny Karl on that blue

:03:06. > :03:09.course has made about deficit, they are neck and neck. This turn is

:03:10. > :03:18.crucial. Prommegger made a mistake or stop it has cost him. He just

:03:19. > :03:21.didn't get off that edge. That turn is so crucial, the last proper turn

:03:22. > :03:27.on the course, the third gate from the finish line, the last one where

:03:28. > :03:30.you need to be 100%. The last two you can get through, but that one is

:03:31. > :03:38.crucial. Prommegger made the mistake. He is out.

:03:39. > :03:50.It was too close to call until that point. That was it there. That

:03:51. > :03:57.wasn't it. That was a mistake, though, there. Too much pressure on

:03:58. > :04:05.his edge, board go sideways. It has cost him. He will be livid.

:04:06. > :04:12.Prommegger and Benny Karl. Benny Karl on the right-hand side in that

:04:13. > :04:17.incredible chrome helmet. Benny Karl will go through. At the expense of

:04:18. > :04:23.Andreas Prommegger. Lukas Mathies fees against Stefan

:04:24. > :04:46.Baumeister. Baumeister looking very fluid on

:04:47. > :04:52.this red course. They are hard on the edge. He loses a lot of speed.

:04:53. > :05:03.Now he has got to chase. He has got to Brescia. -- push here. Lukas

:05:04. > :05:10.Mathies, just the easiest thing he has done. Crosses the line, job

:05:11. > :05:17.done. The Austrians still have lots to cheer about. They have got Benny

:05:18. > :05:32.Karl and Lucas Mathews through. -- Lukas Mathies.

:05:33. > :05:47.We don't get a second count, we cannot see what the times are on the

:05:48. > :05:58.runs. Interesting to see if anybody has been pushed past their

:05:59. > :06:03.qualifying time. A simple event format. Whoever crosses the line

:06:04. > :06:34.first on the second run, wins. He is relying on a mistake from

:06:35. > :06:42.Aaron March. March, just like Roland Fischnaller. The Italians have

:06:43. > :06:59.obviously got a very good Alpine programme in place. Just want to

:07:00. > :07:07.hire. -- too hard. He went through that gate, didn't go around it, he

:07:08. > :07:16.would have been disqualified. Disappointment for Simon Schoch,

:07:17. > :07:22.both him and his brother, they are both out. No silverware in the

:07:23. > :07:27.parallel giant slalom. Aaron March from Italy moves through. He will

:07:28. > :07:44.make the top eight. Sylvain Dufour taking the maximum

:07:45. > :08:09.penalty time. Galmarini out first. Sylvain Dufour

:08:10. > :08:12.is the current leader in the World Cup standings, racing through,

:08:13. > :08:34.desperate to try and rein in Galmarini. Oh, no! Sylvain Dufour

:08:35. > :08:40.has gone again. He really was going ever so good. He has overcooked

:08:41. > :08:44.that. He had to. He needed to leave it all out there, you are not going

:08:45. > :08:54.to catch up with somebody unless you are flat out. There was always the

:08:55. > :08:55.chance you will blow up. Get a good putt on the back from Sylvain

:08:56. > :09:31.Dufour. -- pat on the back. Nevin Galmarini of Switzerland

:09:32. > :09:37.advances to the quarterfinals. In our last of these finals Jasey-Jay

:09:38. > :09:44.Anderson has to make up 0.32 against Zan Kosir. Jasey-Jay Anderson, the

:09:45. > :09:51.most experienced Olympic snowboarder in the world. We saw him make up a

:09:52. > :09:58.deficit in the first run, anyway, in order to get back. He stayed with

:09:59. > :10:08.him so well. He has done really well in the top section. Zan Kosir has

:10:09. > :10:13.kept that advantage. If Anderson keeps the pressure on, will he

:10:14. > :10:24.crack? He can hear him right behind him. He will be getting glimpses of

:10:25. > :10:27.him. He stays on his feet. He lost a little bit. Zan Kosir held his

:10:28. > :10:44.nerve. Zan Kosir, this script is chasing up

:10:45. > :10:53.nicely. He will be a sparring partner's master and apprentice. Zan

:10:54. > :10:59.Kosir and Vic Wild train together. Jasey-Jay Anderson, Gold medallist

:11:00. > :11:09.in Vancouver, and parallel giant slalom. Retired to go and make

:11:10. > :11:14.snowboards. Decided he didn't like that quite as much is racing so came

:11:15. > :11:23.back. Jasey-Jay Anderson, a great ambassador for snowboarding. An

:11:24. > :11:30.incredible competitor. HAZEL IRVINE: We will be back in a

:11:31. > :11:34.few moments. I bring you news that Lizzy Yarnold has been selected to

:11:35. > :11:39.carry the flag for Great Britain at the closing ceremony tomorrow night.

:11:40. > :11:43.It is well-deserved. As we look back on the scenes from just over a week

:11:44. > :11:48.ago, this has been a life changing fortnight for her. She became Great

:11:49. > :11:52.Britain's 10th winter gold medallist with that dominant performance in

:11:53. > :11:58.the skeleton, so look out for her and the British team from 4pm

:11:59. > :12:01.tomorrow afternoon at the start of the closing ceremony. I have been

:12:02. > :12:07.looking through some of the briefing rates they have given us ahead of

:12:08. > :12:13.the ceremony -- briefing notes, it looks a very entertaining programme.

:12:14. > :12:17.It comes highly recommended. I am sure all the athletes will enjoy it.

:12:18. > :12:21.We will go straight back to the snowboarding, the first time we have

:12:22. > :12:26.seen the slalom in the Olympics for snowboarding. It is very enjoyable

:12:27. > :12:33.but this course is rotting up a fair bit. And we have got all the

:12:34. > :12:38.remaining races to come on the same course.

:12:39. > :12:42.COMMENTATOR: The temperature is almost nine degrees. It is getting

:12:43. > :12:49.very slushy. Not easy. Underneath that slush is rock hard ice. They

:12:50. > :12:55.are struggling with the conditions. Right now we have Corinna Boccacini

:12:56. > :13:00.of Italy up against Marion Kreiner of Austria. The first of the women's

:13:01. > :13:07.quarterfinals, the first run. They have one run on each side of the

:13:08. > :13:16.course. Marion Kreiner on the red gate looking tidy. Boccacini, she

:13:17. > :13:20.has been an absolute beast. Boccacini has been gifted it here.

:13:21. > :13:28.Marion Kreiner is out and all she has got to do is stay on her feet.

:13:29. > :13:34.Good racing from the Italian. Marion Kreiner making the mistake. She will

:13:35. > :13:42.take the full 5% penalty time for the second run. Just to go back to

:13:43. > :13:48.the conditions, you were talking about how ratty it is getting,

:13:49. > :13:57.slushy, they are on the best equipment for the ice. You cannot

:13:58. > :14:01.get sharper edges. Just pick the right and watched the ball for the

:14:02. > :14:07.entire race. To see the boards, and what it does and the way it flexes,

:14:08. > :14:14.it is quite amazing. Well worth having a look.

:14:15. > :14:20.You will be able to see the riders preloading the boards, almost like a

:14:21. > :14:22.giant bow, and they use that to fire themselves out of every ten. They

:14:23. > :14:45.are so unforgiving. Classic Alpine battle. Ancient

:14:46. > :14:52.enemies in downhill skiing. Not that different in snowboarding, either.

:14:53. > :15:00.Very close. Julia Dujmovits is going very nicely. But there is nothing

:15:01. > :15:09.between them. Regular riders. For the first time, Julia Dujmovits is

:15:10. > :15:16.slightly out in front. And Julia Dujmovits went wide! Look at that.

:15:17. > :15:26.One tenth of a second. So, Julie Zogg just losing out. Well, Julie

:15:27. > :15:32.Zogg made one or two mistakes but she was still able to keep within

:15:33. > :15:41.touching distance. I really like that Swiss rider, she has got such a

:15:42. > :15:53.fluid style and she is just good. You can see Julia Dujmovits bouncing

:15:54. > :15:58.around. Just getting across first. That will be a very good match. If

:15:59. > :16:05.you are looking at those bindings, they are called plate bindings. They

:16:06. > :16:17.clip on just like ski boots. Underneath you can have that angled.

:16:18. > :16:27.And they do not release like ski bindings. Ina Meschik up against

:16:28. > :16:31.Amelie Kober, the woman who to guide the gold medallist, Patrizia Kummer.

:16:32. > :16:34.And she is a favourite after qualifying in first place. I would

:16:35. > :16:40.say that Amelie Kober is the woman with the target on her back. She has

:16:41. > :16:50.looked really good and heroes well. Closest to the camera. -- here is --

:16:51. > :16:54.here as well. You can see her body is really low. I would not be

:16:55. > :17:00.surprised if property developers started getting in touch after

:17:01. > :17:06.seeing the speed they can dig trenches in! Putting so much

:17:07. > :17:12.pressure through those boards. Driving through those turns. So,

:17:13. > :17:20.Amelie Kober going in front in this first run. And Ina Meschik will

:17:21. > :17:30.start 19 hundredths of a second behind. Her gate will not open for

:17:31. > :17:34.that time. But that does mean whoever crosses first in the second

:17:35. > :17:42.run will go through to the next round. That is the simple way to

:17:43. > :17:50.remember it. That third to last turn is so crucial. She was really loose.

:17:51. > :17:59.So, Ina Meschik, still in good spirits. She has a bit of work to

:18:00. > :18:06.do. Next up. The policewoman from Germany, Anke Karstens. Against the

:18:07. > :18:19.18-year-old who has been in Saint leading form, Ester Ledecka. So,

:18:20. > :18:32.they are on the course. Ester Ledecka in blue. She has already

:18:33. > :18:39.taken only Russian. Anke Karstens is just dropping behind Ester Ledecka.

:18:40. > :18:42.Managing to scrape a little bit of a lead. And Anke Karstens will know

:18:43. > :18:50.that and we'll desperately tried to undercut that. -- we'll desperately.

:18:51. > :18:57.Nothing in that again. 15 hundredths of a second. As you can see, it is

:18:58. > :19:05.very easy, even with some of those very good riders, to reel in

:19:06. > :19:09.hundredths of a second. That is what it is worth, that chasing syndrome.

:19:10. > :19:17.You can see someone in front of you, that will give you that time over

:19:18. > :19:27.the whole course. But one mistake... It is like the old arcade game.

:19:28. > :19:32.Outrun. The car behind you was always faster. And if you are

:19:33. > :19:40.behind, you will somehow managed to find more speed. From somewhere.

:19:41. > :19:47.That is magic. Really nothing between them. That is quite amazing,

:19:48. > :20:14.considering 28 gates. 350 metres of course. We can go back to the start

:20:15. > :20:19.for the first run of the men. The graphics come onto the big screen

:20:20. > :20:25.and the crowd is just roaring for Vic Wild. Coming down on the red

:20:26. > :20:29.course. He will be able to hear them, every single one of them. But

:20:30. > :20:34.will really fire him up. And you must really feel for Roland

:20:35. > :20:39.Fischnaller, he has an absolute mountain to climb. The boy from

:20:40. > :20:52.Washington State who lives in Moscow. Powering. Look at that

:20:53. > :20:55.distance. It must be his wax? Maybe. Look at the way he has just killed

:20:56. > :21:06.his speed coming onto this final part. Throwing himself! Get off the

:21:07. > :21:10.course! That was a very reliable, well upheld protest, there. If

:21:11. > :21:19.anything had gone wrong, the man in the yellow coat... Especially doing

:21:20. > :21:23.that to a Russian on home soil! He would be shipped off to another

:21:24. > :21:30.country. If he was from Georgia, there would be triple.

:21:31. > :21:41.-- there would be problems. He is making that look so easy! That is so

:21:42. > :21:47.difficult. Onto the nose, reloading and then shifting his weight onto

:21:48. > :21:51.the tail. Just like pressing the accelerator and springing out of

:21:52. > :21:58.upturn. If he put his nose down first, then the edging shifts all of

:21:59. > :22:05.his weight onto his back leg. Immaculate technique. He is looking

:22:06. > :22:10.good. Well. Roland Fischnaller is lapping this up because he knows it

:22:11. > :22:17.will all be over when they raced down this course in about 30

:22:18. > :22:25.seconds. Next up... Patrick Bussler against Benjamin Karl.

:22:26. > :22:40.Benjamin Karl on the blue course. And Patrick Bussler with the gloves.

:22:41. > :22:45.Benjamin Karl is one of the elder statesman and one of the bigger

:22:46. > :22:51.winning alpine snowboard is out there. Lovely technique. We get the

:22:52. > :22:59.impression that 18 macro... Just as I said that, he danced over that.

:23:00. > :23:04.Patrick Bussler has been looking good in the parallel Giant Slalom.

:23:05. > :23:15.This will be very close. Patrick Bussler. Nine hundredths of a second

:23:16. > :23:22.behind Benjamin Karl. Patrick Bussler doing some very nice work. I

:23:23. > :23:27.watched Benjamin Karl very well and he got some very good lines through

:23:28. > :23:36.that end section. But Patrick Bussler was just very tidy. Properly

:23:37. > :23:46.ripping that. Looking out of the window at just help busy the

:23:47. > :23:51.technicians are, these ruts are really starting to build up. You can

:23:52. > :23:58.see that discolouration in the snow. It has been browned off. Perhaps

:23:59. > :24:08.there is some dust. You can see these white marks glaring through.

:24:09. > :24:25.The quarterfinals. Heat number three. Lukas Mathies. And Aaron

:24:26. > :24:32.March. The Italians have a very good showing in these semifinals.

:24:33. > :24:38.Quarterfinals, excuse me. Will they have a very good showing in the

:24:39. > :24:45.semifinals? Well... At the moment, Aaron March is doing his part. On

:24:46. > :24:50.the blue course. Lukas Mathies is one of the top performers.

:24:51. > :24:54.Desperately trying to stay in contact with Aaron March. Struggling

:24:55. > :25:01.to get onto his heels. He was caught. His body was twisted and

:25:02. > :25:11.that has cost him. Lukas Mathies, half of the second to make up. Let's

:25:12. > :25:16.have another look at that. That is what cost him. He came out of the

:25:17. > :25:21.corner with his shoulders twisting in the wrong direction and his legs

:25:22. > :25:29.did not want to follow. Pretty funny with Aaron March, he took the term

:25:30. > :25:35.road to Sochi quite literally and recycled from Italy all the to

:25:36. > :25:41.Russia. He did that for the test event last. Not this year! He left

:25:42. > :25:54.one week before! Breathless! I am here! OK, take a breath. Here we go.

:25:55. > :26:04.Nevin Galmarini. Up against Zan Kosir. Whether he has two take --

:26:05. > :26:11.has what it takes to overhaul Zan Kosir. His training partner is Vic

:26:12. > :26:18.Wild, the fastest man on this mountain. At the moment, that looks

:26:19. > :26:22.like it shall be confirmed by an Olympic gold-medal. But Nevin

:26:23. > :26:33.Galmarini is struggling at the moment. Zan Kosir is clinical. That

:26:34. > :26:42.is beautiful, just watching him. He is so clinical. I would let him

:26:43. > :26:50.perform a face-lift on the! -- me. He will take that penalty. Zan Kosir

:26:51. > :26:59.was looking so fluid. By the getting close to what Vic Wild is doing? The

:27:00. > :27:06.dream final at the moment would be Zan Kosir and Vic Wild. They are

:27:07. > :27:10.both making it look just so easy. Well, they have got the easiest

:27:11. > :27:17.route. Ploughing through the lower seeds. The semifinals, it will start

:27:18. > :27:22.to see a little bit of competition. There will be a challenge. There we

:27:23. > :27:30.go, Nevin Galmarini losing it from the end. But 100 and 34 macro... The

:27:31. > :27:42.Slovenian holding up his finger to say, one more race! -- Dimi de Jong.

:27:43. > :27:48.No, he said, I am number one! So, that was the first run of the

:27:49. > :27:58.quarterfinals. We are into the second run for the women. No letup

:27:59. > :28:04.in the action here the Extreme Park. It is absolutely relentless. It just

:28:05. > :28:10.keeps going. I'm sad to say that strictly is not true. This is the

:28:11. > :28:14.final event. The debut of this event at the other pics. This will mark

:28:15. > :28:19.the end of the snowboarding competitions at these games. And the

:28:20. > :28:31.last event at the Extreme Park. So... Everyone is very keen to walk

:28:32. > :28:40.away with some heavy metal. Marion Kreiner and Corinna Boccacini.

:28:41. > :28:46.Corinna Boccacini can someone aggression can she? Marion Kreiner,

:28:47. > :28:53.34 years old. With that maximum deficit. But she is reeling in

:28:54. > :28:56.Corinna Boccacini. It is that chasing syndrome we have been

:28:57. > :29:02.talking about. You can find that speed. This will really put the

:29:03. > :29:07.pressure on. Corinna Boccacini is regular, she can see Marion Kreiner.

:29:08. > :29:16.Marion Kreiner will not know if she is level? But that was a phenomenal

:29:17. > :29:19.performance! Is that enough? No! The Italian does it! She was in the

:29:20. > :29:26.lead. But somehow, look at the way... Judging by her aggression, I

:29:27. > :29:32.would not have liked to be Corinna Boccacini! She is a monster! I want

:29:33. > :29:38.to see her in the final. She is really looking good. Whatever she

:29:39. > :29:46.lacks in technique, she makes up for in brute force and aggression.

:29:47. > :29:50.Well, it works and that is what it is all about. It does not matter how

:29:51. > :29:56.would looks, it is all about getting across that line. You just realise

:29:57. > :30:08.how much work Marion Kreiner did. What a performance! She was almost

:30:09. > :30:17.ahead. That was so close! Ridiculously close! Considering she

:30:18. > :30:26.was 1.25 seconds behind. Corinna Boccacini. She has got a nice little

:30:27. > :30:30.smile on her face. She turns it on for the race and then sweet as apple

:30:31. > :30:35.pie once it is all over. That means we have lost the last of our

:30:36. > :30:53.reigning Olympic medallists. Marion Kreiner. Bronze in Vancouver.

:30:54. > :31:00.She has got a bit of work to do. She lost it right at the start. What a

:31:01. > :31:04.shame. We have been talking about preloading the board, getting the

:31:05. > :31:11.energy from the board, she has just had a dose of weak legs, she has

:31:12. > :31:14.stood up and it has put her on to the back tale. When legs are tired

:31:15. > :31:21.it is very easy to do that in snowboarding. Julia Dujmovits hasn't

:31:22. > :31:49.taken her foot of the gas. Julia Dujmovits, the Austrian, will

:31:50. > :31:54.advance to the semifinals. Look at the legs here. Like a much energy,

:31:55. > :32:01.you have just got to have your legs turned on. When we start to get into

:32:02. > :32:21.the business end your legs get tired. These boards will snap back.

:32:22. > :32:27.Ina Meschik against Amelie Kober. Ina Meschik finds herself in the

:32:28. > :32:37.unenviable position of having to chase Amelie Kober done this course.

:32:38. > :32:47.Ina Meschik on the red gate 's closest to us. Rather than trying to

:32:48. > :32:53.ride through those ruts, they are taking a slightly wider line, that

:32:54. > :33:01.is enabling them to carve the board. You can keep that key speed up. I

:33:02. > :33:12.think Ina Meschik is slightly in the lead. Too much on that last day. She

:33:13. > :33:18.went to wide on the third to last gate, it is so important. We have

:33:19. > :33:29.already seen mistakes made there. She went to white-collar -- she went

:33:30. > :33:37.to wide, carrying too much speed. It is an intense 30 seconds of pure

:33:38. > :33:41.snowboarding. Pure power. We talk about how difficult the snowboards

:33:42. > :33:49.are to ride. They need so much energy powering into them.

:33:50. > :33:54.Exactly the same, this is a Formula One of snowboarding. These boards

:33:55. > :34:02.are just as hard to control and push properly as a Formula One car is to

:34:03. > :34:05.drive. I don't know, I think I could write one of these better. I don't

:34:06. > :34:16.think I could drive a Formula One car. They don't even work until you

:34:17. > :34:33.get them up to about 90. Go and give it a test. I think the world speed

:34:34. > :34:46.record on a snowboard is a snowboard is 112 mph. Anke Karstens up against

:34:47. > :34:56.Ester Ledecka. Ester Ledecka has looked very fluid, elegant. Anke

:34:57. > :35:03.Karstens using that frame perfectly. Ester Ledecka just clipping one of

:35:04. > :35:09.the gates. It is a deceiving angle. Whoever is on the blue course, it

:35:10. > :35:17.looks like they are in the lead. Anke Karstens well and truly in the

:35:18. > :35:24.league. It is hers. Ester Ledecka. She lets out a scream, she cannot

:35:25. > :35:27.believe it. Anke Karstens, a very serious competitor. We haven't seen

:35:28. > :35:35.much consideration for anybody she has vanquished so far, not even her

:35:36. > :35:38.fellow countrywoman. Interesting indicator, just to show you, I don't

:35:39. > :35:53.think there was any love lost between the Germans in the eighth

:35:54. > :36:03.finals. Karstens was against Selina Jorg. That is one of the best ways

:36:04. > :36:09.to see who is ahead because you can see where they are in the timing of

:36:10. > :36:17.the ten. -- turn. We don't have any control over the cameras. I would

:36:18. > :36:23.like a few more of those shots. Anke Karstens, ecstatic without victory,

:36:24. > :36:32.and a place in the semifinals. -- with that victory. Confirmation in a

:36:33. > :36:42.moment of Gucci will be facing. -- who she will be facing. Anke

:36:43. > :36:54.Karstens will go against Amelie Kober, her countrywoman. We are

:36:55. > :37:00.guaranteed a German in the final. The rage in Boccacini will carry her

:37:01. > :37:09.through to the final. It will be very interesting. The German gold or

:37:10. > :37:17.silver. They know they have got it. They should all get medals give them

:37:18. > :37:22.all one. Then they are not special. You are 315 times more likely to win

:37:23. > :37:34.the lottery than a gold medal. Is that true? Torah Bright hobby that,

:37:35. > :37:41.her coach had waited out. You are 650 times more likely to be crushed

:37:42. > :37:51.by a shark... Now you are being silly. Put your nose against the

:37:52. > :38:10.wall. Men's quarterfinals. The masterclass will continue. Four

:38:11. > :38:18.tenths of a second for Roland Fischnaller to wake up -- make up.

:38:19. > :38:25.His technique is nowhere near as effective as this man. Fish and

:38:26. > :38:36.Allah is staying with him. -- Roland Fischnaller. Vic Wild is human after

:38:37. > :38:42.all. It will be very close. He caught the gate. Roland Fischnaller

:38:43. > :38:48.could not hold on. Vic Wild, getting a little bit wild. He let it go a

:38:49. > :38:55.little bit loose. He is shaking his head, he thought it was close. It

:38:56. > :38:58.was close. He ended up going completely sideways, just somehow

:38:59. > :39:08.managed to put his edge down. Strong legs there. My goodness. Was that a

:39:09. > :39:21.bit of a false start from him as well?

:39:22. > :39:27.They really have found a hero in Vic Wild. He is making this look so

:39:28. > :39:35.easy, nobody is expecting any mistakes. If he can do this, pull of

:39:36. > :39:42.two gold medals, literally pick the flavour of cereal you want your face

:39:43. > :39:48.on the box of, because he will be a megastar. Two gold medals,

:39:49. > :39:51.incredible. What a feat. As a husband and wife team they will be

:39:52. > :39:59.Richard and Judy before they know it, surely. Alena Zavarzina, the

:40:00. > :40:04.bronze medal from parallel giant slalom. They will never be as good

:40:05. > :40:12.as Richard and Judy. Benny Karl starting with nine

:40:13. > :40:23.hundredths of a second deficit. Nothing in that. Patrick Bussler on

:40:24. > :40:31.the blue course. Looking to extend his lead. Benny Karl a little bit

:40:32. > :40:47.untidy as they come over the bridge. -- Ridge. Benny Karl letting it all

:40:48. > :40:53.go. It is his. That last third, look at him, he is absolutely pumped! We

:40:54. > :40:59.have got some serious pedigree going into the semifinals. I think you get

:41:00. > :41:04.to this business end, it is about strength. It is about the willpower

:41:05. > :41:11.and the technique, but you have got to have the strength. They are

:41:12. > :41:26.working so hard. So much energy at the end of these

:41:27. > :41:35.races as they come across the finish line. UCB explosion of emotion. Give

:41:36. > :41:41.him a lump of coal, he will crush it into a diamond for you right there.

:41:42. > :41:49.He has come back from ankle surgery in 2012 after he smashed his

:41:50. > :41:57.motorbike up. He is desperate to win an Olympic medal. And fortunately

:41:58. > :42:04.for him he will be meeting Vic Wild in the semifinals.

:42:05. > :42:09.He did get a silver in Vancouver. Whether he can better that, we do

:42:10. > :42:22.not know. Austrians still with plenty to cheer four.

:42:23. > :42:37.Aaron March from Italy on the Red Cross, he is out first. Lukas

:42:38. > :42:44.Mathies, flying around these gates. March is tapping the floor between

:42:45. > :42:51.each gate. You have got to watch your hand doesn't hit the polls. It

:42:52. > :42:56.could be enough to just set you off. It is a little technique he has got.

:42:57. > :43:06.So close. Did he make it round that last day? I think he went straight

:43:07. > :43:10.over it. I think the judges might have a look at that. The penultimate

:43:11. > :43:31.gate, did he go properly around it? Just look on a computer screen here.

:43:32. > :43:41.This is the flat section. He was powering through those turns. This

:43:42. > :43:49.gate here. Oh, yes, he was fine, well in. It was very deceptive on

:43:50. > :43:52.the first shot, from the other angle. You couldn't see the

:43:53. > :44:06.perspective. Aaron March, the Italian, goes

:44:07. > :44:13.through to the semifinals. Who will join him? Nevin Galmarini, with a

:44:14. > :44:22.maximum penalty time, to wait in the gate, while Zan Kosir makes his way

:44:23. > :44:27.down the course. Kosir has looked flawless as well, training partner

:44:28. > :44:37.of Vic Wild, as we have said. Look at this. Incredible. I cannot tell

:44:38. > :44:43.you how difficult it is. Look at his arms, they are by his side, by his

:44:44. > :44:47.knees, he is just cruising down. It is that separation of upper and

:44:48. > :44:51.lower body, to write like this you need to be able to make your legs do

:44:52. > :44:58.the work while your body stands really stable over the top. Zan

:44:59. > :45:06.Kosir, that was a lot closer, he did an incredible job of trying to reel

:45:07. > :45:25.in his opponent. He gave him the nod of respect. That was close. 92

:45:26. > :45:32.hundredths of a second, but there's a lot. But Zan Kosir would have been

:45:33. > :45:40.riding at 95%, making sure he did not fall down but was also fast

:45:41. > :45:53.enough not to get caught out. But Nevin Galmarini was just so unlucky,

:45:54. > :46:10.he raced his heart out. All right! Time for the semifinal. We know

:46:11. > :46:18.about the men. So, Vic Wild will face Benjamin Karl. And Aaron March

:46:19. > :46:21.and Zan Kosir. Vic Wild and Zan Kosir have already been set up, they

:46:22. > :46:27.would like to meet each other in the final. They are the highest seeds

:46:28. > :46:34.from the qualification. And they are at opposite ends of the draw. It is

:46:35. > :46:43.looking very likely. It is all going to plan. And they have similar

:46:44. > :46:55.styles. The top half of their body is rock-solid and their legs to all

:46:56. > :47:00.of the work. Just ability to snap that board through those turns and

:47:01. > :47:08.accelerate is just phenomenal. So, on one side we have the ice cold

:47:09. > :47:15.Austrian, Julia Dujmovits. So solid in her work. She is in the blue

:47:16. > :47:25.gate. And then Corinna Boccacini, the Italian. This is quite subdued

:47:26. > :47:34.from her. That made me jump! She has been fired up for this! So, the

:47:35. > :47:43.first run of the semifinals. So important to get a bit of a lead.

:47:44. > :47:49.Get through these runs and you know it is gold or silver. Corinna

:47:50. > :48:00.Boccacini behind. Julia Dujmovits was slowing right down on that turn.

:48:01. > :48:07.That has cost her. Going wide. Yes, she has to hang on. As quickly as

:48:08. > :48:20.possible... OK. So, Corinna Boccacini, eight tenths off the

:48:21. > :48:24.pace. There is no war cry! Well, Julia Dujmovits has been so fluid

:48:25. > :48:29.through this course. I have said that for billion times today. But

:48:30. > :48:36.there is a lot of finesse to that. And it will be very hard to make

:48:37. > :48:46.that up. Echoes of surfing. That was beautiful. Kelly Slater looks a

:48:47. > :48:55.little bit like that. 11 or 12 times world champion? One of the worlds

:48:56. > :49:05.best surfers. He is 41. I think he is got size 13 feet. -- has got.

:49:06. > :49:11.Magnificent. It is a thing of beauty. They are racing against the

:49:12. > :49:20.clock. But not many people in the world can do that. Amelie Kober

:49:21. > :49:25.against Anke Karstens. German semifinal on the other side of the

:49:26. > :49:31.draw. This guarantees one of these women silver or gold. Whoever loses

:49:32. > :49:37.will be in the smaller final, battling for the bronze medal. Anke

:49:38. > :49:49.Karstens, that Lord battle cry. Come on! The jihad the gate? -- did she

:49:50. > :50:00.get the gate? It did not seem to knock her out. Oh no! She has gone

:50:01. > :50:13.really wide. Waving about wildly. Disappointment. Anke Karstens makes

:50:14. > :50:19.her way down. So, Amelie Kober will take... She is back up and running.

:50:20. > :50:27.So, Amelie Kober will take a penalty. I think she has hurt

:50:28. > :50:29.herself. It looks like she is carrying a bit of a knock, looking

:50:30. > :50:53.out from this commentary booth. It was a good start. Amelie Kober

:50:54. > :51:01.got away. And that was a mistake. She has got arm up. She was protect

:51:02. > :51:08.in her elbow. Good spot. And from then on... Anke Karstens had a free

:51:09. > :51:17.ride. Certainly looking, from appear, you can see that Amelie

:51:18. > :51:26.Kober has disappeared. Whether someone can help out in time, we do

:51:27. > :51:42.not know. She is just around the bag. -- back. So, the semifinal for

:51:43. > :51:47.the men. This will be interesting. Benjamin Karl. He wants to add

:51:48. > :51:52.another big Olympic medal to his collection, he got silver in

:51:53. > :52:02.Vancouver. Can he take a medal at the first ever parallel slalom at

:52:03. > :52:08.the Olympics? Vic Wild on the red course. For once, you are right, we

:52:09. > :52:13.have not seen a lot of daylight preen both of them. So, Vic Wild has

:52:14. > :52:19.to work a little bit harder. He looks across. Where is his man?

:52:20. > :52:28.Keeping him in check. Benjamin Karl on the blue course is really hanging

:52:29. > :52:31.on! He has gone! Vic Wild has gone! Benjamin Karl has done the

:52:32. > :52:41.unthinkable and put enough measure on Vic Wild Jamaican crack. You were

:52:42. > :52:45.saying that he was not really tested and we would see him tested in the

:52:46. > :52:51.semifinals and Benjamin Karl has done exactly that. Obviously,

:52:52. > :52:57.Benjamin Karl was not intimidated by the Russian. Instead, he gave as

:52:58. > :53:04.good as he got. For three quarters of that course. Until Vic Wild,

:53:05. > :53:13.usually flawless with his technique, had a look across... And he gets a

:53:14. > :53:24.little bit... He just gives it too much. He basically gives it too much

:53:25. > :53:30.gas. Going into that turn. That has been his technique. He has been able

:53:31. > :53:39.to really put the edge in. That time, he has come unstuck. So there

:53:40. > :53:50.is a chink in the armour. If we look at the quarterfinal, I think you

:53:51. > :53:59.will see, who was at? You have got... It was Roland Fischnaller,

:54:00. > :54:10.who did real in Vic Wild. He did catch up quite a bit. -- reel in.

:54:11. > :54:15.Can he do the same? Zan Kosir. And Aaron March from Italy. Zan Kosir

:54:16. > :54:24.will know the result from his training partner. Desperate to make

:54:25. > :54:37.sure that if ten one does not make it, he does. -- Vic Wild. He looks

:54:38. > :54:46.so fluid. Nice and compact. Zan Kosir, starting to get away. Despite

:54:47. > :54:53.the technique. Zan Kosir is busy. And he has me that kind. All three

:54:54. > :55:04.quarters of a second. There was not a lot in that. Nothing. Zan Kosir is

:55:05. > :55:16.looking good! He reminds me of the Prince of Persia. I do not know why.

:55:17. > :55:30.Zan Kosir, such a very good line through that flat. Beautiful timing.

:55:31. > :55:39.He knows exactly where he is and what wants he to do on every single

:55:40. > :55:48.one. So... Zan Kosir, steadying himself. Aaron March knows he has an

:55:49. > :56:00.uphill struggle. He will have that deficit to make up. Back to the top.

:56:01. > :56:07.And time for the woman. -- the women. The second semifinal. This

:56:08. > :56:11.will decide who goes into the big final to battle at four silver and

:56:12. > :56:24.gold. And who goes into the smaller final to play for the bronze medal.

:56:25. > :56:35.Corinna Boccacini with the deficit. Can she came the beast that is

:56:36. > :56:41.Corinna Boccacini? -- tame. Keep your eye on Corinna Boccacini. One

:56:42. > :56:48.of the big seeds. And Corinna Boccacini is up. There was that look

:56:49. > :56:56.across. And she has gone loose! Corinna Boccacini! She has gone! She

:56:57. > :57:04.has thrown it away. Julia Dujmovits taking her team. -- her time. And

:57:05. > :57:12.Corinna Boccacini had done so well to get back into that race. She must

:57:13. > :57:19.have seen Julia Dujmovits making that mistake. I am going to win it!

:57:20. > :57:24.Oh, no, I have made a mistake! The moment you take your mind off and

:57:25. > :57:30.start thinking about winning, you will leave the course! Just as

:57:31. > :57:34.Corinna Boccacini did just there. That is the final result for the

:57:35. > :57:41.semifinal. Julia Dujmovits advancing into the big final. She will go

:57:42. > :57:45.forward gold or silver. Corinna Boccacini racing in the smaller

:57:46. > :57:56.final and the winner will take the bronze medal. All looking good at

:57:57. > :58:09.this point. This was the mistake. Oh, yes. These boards have been set

:58:10. > :58:21.up in a directional way so they can only be read in one way. -- ridden.

:58:22. > :58:33.I have been inspired. I will give this a go! Really? Yes. I will go

:58:34. > :58:40.back. No British entry... Could we see you representing Great Britain?

:58:41. > :58:54.I love the commentary box. Anke Karstens. Up against Amelie Kober.

:58:55. > :59:04.She has got that 1.25 second lead. We have seen mistakes in every

:59:05. > :59:11.semifinal so far. The police officer, Anke Karstens, looking

:59:12. > :59:24.comfortable. Amelie Kober is hard at work. Anke Karstens might have taken

:59:25. > :59:32.her foot off the gas too much. Look at how fast she is going! Oh my

:59:33. > :59:38.goodness! Heartbreaking. Heartbreaking for Amelie Kober. She

:59:39. > :59:47.came so close. That was phenomenal. She reeled in 1.6 seconds. I think

:59:48. > :59:53.Anke Karstens was a little bit shocked when she saw just how close

:59:54. > :00:13.she was on that flat section. That was the boost that she needed.

:00:14. > :00:25.Wonderful gate ahead. -- one full. Look at just how tight that was. Oh!

:00:26. > :00:34.Isn't life cruel? That is the Olympics for you, why can't anybody

:00:35. > :00:38.when? -- everybody. We talked about the importance of not being afraid

:00:39. > :00:45.to fail. Especially the freestyle event, that is something that has

:00:46. > :00:50.been promoted. Nothing original comes from being afraid to be wrong.

:00:51. > :00:56.If you are afraid to fail you will never come up with something new.

:00:57. > :01:03.Beautiful words. Anke Karstens makes it into the first ever Olympic

:01:04. > :01:20.parallel slalom final, facing Judi Dench of its -- Julia Dujmovits.

:01:21. > :01:27.We will watch the member for their second runs. Dashed the men go for

:01:28. > :01:47.their second runs. Will he not be the pantomime villain

:01:48. > :01:53.if he knocks Vic Wild into the bronze medal race? First time we

:01:54. > :02:00.have seen Vic Wild really under pressure.

:02:01. > :02:16.He has got the technique. It is a huge deficit. A whole flag. Vic

:02:17. > :02:23.Wild's technique is fantastic. This top section really suits fit while.

:02:24. > :02:29.He has got him already. Vic Wild has reeled him in. They are neck and

:02:30. > :02:37.neck. Benny Karl will see him here. This will be so tired. I think it

:02:38. > :02:47.will be Benny Karls. He cannot believe it. Benny Karl cannot

:02:48. > :02:56.believe it. The crowd cannot believe it. They are going absolutely

:02:57. > :03:07.mental. In a semifinal that is mildly humiliating for Benny Karl.

:03:08. > :03:17.That is phenomenal. Benny Karl will be shell-shocked. He cannot take a

:03:18. > :03:23.snowboard. The one thing Benny Karl can take from it is he has been

:03:24. > :03:33.soundly beaten. That is the only thing he can take. Look how far

:03:34. > :03:38.ahead he is here. This man, if you were to rip off his skin he would be

:03:39. > :03:42.a titanium robot. Where is he getting the power from? And the

:03:43. > :03:58.finish, he has no business doing that. Oh, my goodness. That looked

:03:59. > :04:11.like an absolute rule. -- draw. The Russians are going crazy. Benny Karl

:04:12. > :04:15.giving the props to Vic Wild, he knows how good he is. That is

:04:16. > :04:21.absolutely incredible. Truly phenomenal. You would be forgiven

:04:22. > :04:27.for thinking he might rest on his one gold medal, but judging by that,

:04:28. > :04:31.he wants another one. That is brilliant. When you are that much

:04:32. > :04:36.better than somebody like Benny Karl, who has dedicated his entire

:04:37. > :04:42.life to Alpine snowboarding. Time for the second run of the second

:04:43. > :04:55.semifinal, Zan Kosir of Slovenia up against the Italian, Aaron March.

:04:56. > :05:10.In Zan Kosir, what is he going to do? When you are chasing you can

:05:11. > :05:18.find the speed from somewhere. Zan Kosir, he has seen him early. He

:05:19. > :05:25.landed on his face on the wrong side. He got a chest slammed there,

:05:26. > :05:33.that would have heard. Zan Kosir is through to the final. He will meet

:05:34. > :05:42.Vic Wild. His training partner. This was the final they wanted. We have

:05:43. > :05:47.been setting this up all day as the equivalent of Rocky when they are

:05:48. > :05:56.battling. They will have had this race seminary times in private. --

:05:57. > :06:00.so many times. His arm got caught on the gate, they are getting as close

:06:01. > :06:05.to the gates as possible. It doesn't matter if they knock the flags of,

:06:06. > :06:15.they just need to make sure they go around the smaller post. He couldn't

:06:16. > :06:20.keep his weight down. That is how much power there is. We have been

:06:21. > :06:24.going on about this, pre-loading the board. When you see it believes like

:06:25. > :06:35.that and the rider is not in control. It has just flogged and --

:06:36. > :06:43.flung a 13 stone man into the air. Zan Kosir advances to the final.

:06:44. > :06:52.Aaron March will face Benny Karl for the small final. Bronze medal.

:06:53. > :07:02.Parallel slalom hasn't disappointed. On its debut at the games. No

:07:03. > :07:06.shortage of excitement. Mildly concerned at how many cores workers

:07:07. > :07:11.are still shovelling on the course, while the ladies or in the gate. I

:07:12. > :07:19.am sure that will clear. Amelie Kober against Corinna Boccacini, the

:07:20. > :07:24.Italian, for the bronze medal. Amelie Kober has done so well to

:07:25. > :07:38.fight her way this far in. She is on the blue gate. My goodness. She is

:07:39. > :07:46.like a lion. A big stallion in a rodeo pen, coming out kicking and

:07:47. > :07:51.blocking. Look how fluid she is. Making light work of this top

:07:52. > :08:05.section. Boccacini barging the gate in comparison. Boccacini looks a

:08:06. > :08:18.little tired. Amelie Kober is looking fresh. Amelie Kober will go

:08:19. > :08:27.into the second run with the advantage. Corinna Boccacini needs

:08:28. > :08:43.to find that instantly accessible rage. It is definitely her

:08:44. > :08:55.superpower. Amelie Kober, very space. Transferring the weight,

:08:56. > :09:10.pre-loading the nose of the board. Storing up that energy and letting

:09:11. > :09:16.it explode out of the tail. Did she have the broken arm? No, that was

:09:17. > :09:23.Alena Zavarzina. Bronze medallist from the parallel giant slalom. Now

:09:24. > :09:34.it is the big final. You have got to say, the Austrian, she has just gone

:09:35. > :09:39.about her business. There wasn't really a lot of pomp and ceremony to

:09:40. > :09:51.this. She has been really stoic in her work. Karstens, there is that

:09:52. > :10:02.shout. The big one forecasters was beating Selina Jorg. As soon as she

:10:03. > :10:08.got that done, she was on a roll. Karstens, a goofy rider. They are

:10:09. > :10:21.facing each other, can see each other. Karstens is looking stronger

:10:22. > :10:32.and stronger with every game. That is a big deficit. And no

:10:33. > :10:35.characteristic screen from Karstens. Judging on the form of the

:10:36. > :10:40.quarterfinals and semifinals, a fair final would probably have been the

:10:41. > :10:49.two Germans will stop -- the two Germans. Amelie Kober looked really

:10:50. > :10:53.good. They both look like they have got a lot of energy, spring in their

:10:54. > :11:00.step. Good to see them battle it out in the final. Dujmovits, she has

:11:01. > :11:11.done it right, she has rightfully won her case here in the final.

:11:12. > :11:15.We have got Dujmovits, and we will have her barracks cheering for her,

:11:16. > :11:19.because she is in the Army. And there will be constabulary cheering

:11:20. > :11:24.her opponent on, because she is in the police force. Imagine getting

:11:25. > :11:34.pulled over for speeding and it is the gold medal from the Olympics.

:11:35. > :11:47.Aren't you Anke Karstens? Do you want to see my medal?

:11:48. > :11:57.Karstens has one hand, gold medal for top with that lead, you have got

:11:58. > :12:05.to say it is Anke Karstens to lose. Now we come to the man's small

:12:06. > :12:15.final. Benny Karl and Aaron March. Where is your money going? Are we

:12:16. > :12:25.allowed to bet? No. I will say Benny Karl. I just think Aaron March has

:12:26. > :12:38.got a lot of fire in him. Benny Karl has already got a silver. He doesn't

:12:39. > :12:44.want the bronze. Of course he does. The Italian looking good in this top

:12:45. > :12:52.section. Benny Karl has got the style for me. A good key to look

:12:53. > :13:01.for, if they are still crouched down throughout the flat, it means they

:13:02. > :13:07.have still got a lot of energy. It is close. Benny Karl has just got

:13:08. > :13:13.this, I think. Benny Karl, just up after the first run. Aaron March

:13:14. > :13:24.will have two watch Benny Karl leave the gate. He will have seen what Vic

:13:25. > :13:27.Wild did to Benny Karl in the semifinals and will think you might

:13:28. > :13:33.be able to do it too. Anything is possible. I am amazed Benny Karl can

:13:34. > :13:37.concentrate on this, I would be wondering how on earth Vic Wild

:13:38. > :13:46.Courtney, questioning whether I don't. -- caught me. I just trained

:13:47. > :13:52.since I was 15, I am 28, 13 years, and I went as fast as I could and

:13:53. > :14:02.somebody beat me by 1.29 seconds. Unbelievable. We will get to see him

:14:03. > :14:06.now truly tested, Vic Wild. He was tested in the first semifinal. He is

:14:07. > :14:27.up against Zan Kosir. Benny Karl will start ahead in the

:14:28. > :14:36.second run. Now the Russians in fine voice. Vic Wild goes up against the

:14:37. > :14:43.Slovenian, Zan Kosir. Vic Wilder will be on the red gate closest to

:14:44. > :14:49.the camera. They have done this in private. Training so many times now,

:14:50. > :15:03.now it is time to do it on the big stage. The men's parallels Alan

:15:04. > :15:11.final underway. Vic Wild is in the lead already. He looks like a

:15:12. > :15:21.Springbok. They can see each other. Facing each other. Regular and

:15:22. > :15:33.goofy. He is pulling away. There is no sign of any tiredness. Oh! Just

:15:34. > :15:41.12 hundredths of a second. The Russians are on their feet. It is a

:15:42. > :15:54.sea of video cameras as they tried to hold on to this moment. Zan

:15:55. > :15:58.Kosir, wondering what he can do. But Vic Wild could be about to make

:15:59. > :16:03.history. If he wins, he will be the first man ever to take two gold

:16:04. > :16:21.medals at one Winter Olympics in snowboarding. Has that been done in

:16:22. > :16:28.skiing? Yes, I think so. As you say, history in the making. And he will

:16:29. > :16:32.cement his place. This lost or a very interesting debate in the

:16:33. > :16:37.United States because Vic Wild was born in Washington State. He

:16:38. > :16:42.defected when the American Alpine programme would not support him. And

:16:43. > :16:48.here he is, about to claim two gold medals. At the start, if you ask

:16:49. > :16:54.anybody which snowboarder would be going home with two gold medals, you

:16:55. > :17:01.would have said... Why put me on the spot? You would have said Shaun

:17:02. > :17:10.White! Oh, yes, sorry. I thought you meant Alpine racing! Of course,

:17:11. > :17:16.Shaun White. But he pulled out of slopestyle and he did not win the

:17:17. > :17:27.gold medal in the halfpipe. The small final, the second run. The

:17:28. > :17:40.powerhouse, Corinna Boccacini, she might not have the same finesse...

:17:41. > :17:49.She is on course. Corinna Boccacini is up there! Straightaway! And not

:17:50. > :17:55.far behind, Amelie Kober. You can hear that grunting. Corinna

:17:56. > :18:03.Boccacini is shouting at yourself. She once this so badly. Without that

:18:04. > :18:09.all Amelie Kober? It might be working. And Corinna Boccacini must

:18:10. > :18:14.know it, but that is a very beautiful style. Oh, no! What if it

:18:15. > :18:21.has to grace! That was absolutely beautiful. Corinna Boccacini really

:18:22. > :18:30.pushing Amelie Kober. They shake hands. And the velociraptor goes out

:18:31. > :18:36.the window. Once she crosses the line. That was very good racing and

:18:37. > :18:42.Corinna Boccacini was a very worthy opponent. Amelie Kober has to

:18:43. > :18:47.knowledge that. These gates or about 20 feet apart as you look at them.

:18:48. > :18:52.But you do feel so close when racing side by side. You can hear the

:18:53. > :19:01.noises and you get hit eyepieces of their snow. It just feels so

:19:02. > :19:05.intense. It is compact. You are isolated on your own track but

:19:06. > :19:10.somebody is always bearing down on you. It is a very different

:19:11. > :19:15.psychology. Amelie Kober, just hanging on. Corinna Boccacini had

:19:16. > :19:25.the speed. 11 Metre and that would have been her bronze medal.

:19:26. > :19:31.Absolutely. -- one more Metre. That is very nice to see. She will

:19:32. > :19:40.realise just how close when she watches that at home. It might

:19:41. > :19:49.reawaken that velociraptor. So, Amelie Kober, absolutely made up.

:19:50. > :19:56.Can we give her a medal of some description? Corinna Boccacini? I am

:19:57. > :20:05.sure we can manage it. We will buy them superhero capes. This is a very

:20:06. > :20:10.big final. One of these women will be going home with the gold medal.

:20:11. > :20:20.Right now, it looks like it could be German gold and bronze. Anke

:20:21. > :20:32.Karstens. The police officer. She has the lead. And Julia Dujmovits,

:20:33. > :20:36.she is in the hunt. On the first run they could see each other. They are

:20:37. > :20:47.back-to-back. They will feel that presence. Julia Dujmovits. Just a

:20:48. > :20:53.little bit of a wash. Oh no! Julia Dujmovits has held on! It is not

:20:54. > :21:03.over! How did she do that? I think Anke Karstens has taken that to

:21:04. > :21:08.easily! Look! Oh! Julia Dujmovits, after that huge mistake, she made up

:21:09. > :21:12.three quarters of the second. Then she almost fell down. She pulled it

:21:13. > :21:20.back. There must have been a big mistake from Anke Karstens. It just

:21:21. > :21:28.looked, to me, like Anke Karstens was taking it easily. She did not

:21:29. > :21:31.look like the same athlete from the quarterfinal and the semifinal. And

:21:32. > :21:38.that is the podium. Well, German bronze. And German silver. And it

:21:39. > :21:51.very and expect did Austrian gold medal. -- a very unexpected. Can we

:21:52. > :22:06.pick this part in the replay? Despite the deficit, Julia Dujmovits

:22:07. > :22:13.had a fantastic start. That was a big mistake. She newly fell over. --

:22:14. > :22:19.nearly. You actually could see her powering out of that. I mean, it was

:22:20. > :22:29.probably one with the handle new line. Well... She has such

:22:30. > :22:39.technique. So much explosive lament from that last turn. -- momentum.

:22:40. > :22:45.The coaches cannot believe it! Absolutely phenomenal. We said that

:22:46. > :22:49.she flew in under the radar and she has gone about your business. Julia

:22:50. > :22:57.Dujmovits has taken the gold medal, Anke Karstens takes the silver

:22:58. > :22:59.medal. And Amelie Kober with the bronze medal at the first ever

:23:00. > :23:10.ladies parallel slalom Olympic final. But it is not over. We still

:23:11. > :23:19.have the small matter of the men to decide. Aaron March and Michael

:23:20. > :23:30.Lambert in the small final. And then Vic Wild and Zan Kosir in the big

:23:31. > :23:41.final. Benjamin Karl will be closest. His blue helmet. Benjamin

:23:42. > :23:53.Karl already has a silver medal from Vancouver. Can he and -- added

:23:54. > :23:59.bronze medal from Sochi? -- add a. Aaron March has gone! Benjamin Karl

:24:00. > :24:16.will just glide down to claim his bronze medal. It looks like he has

:24:17. > :24:20.not realised yet. Do not fall over! Aaron March would have been

:24:21. > :24:28.powering. I think he did see him coming down. We nearly had that turn

:24:29. > :24:37.that use of desperately wanted. And his team-mate joins them. Austrian

:24:38. > :24:50.medals today. That was a very successful Olympic for the Austrian

:24:51. > :24:57.snowboarders. The boys share and embrace. And that is good to see.

:24:58. > :25:02.Lovely to see just how much the bronze medal means to him. I was

:25:03. > :25:07.literally just thinking that. He is absolutely over the moon. He is

:25:08. > :25:19.waving to the crowd at the bottom. Thrusting his board into the air.

:25:20. > :25:26.Aaron March, out of his line. He sets Benjamin Karl free. One of the

:25:27. > :25:37.most prominent figures in Alpine snowboarding. Overwhelmed at his

:25:38. > :25:46.victory. Somebody wake him up! He cannot believe it. Aaron March is

:25:47. > :25:54.very upset. Well, he will be upset with himself because he made the

:25:55. > :26:01.mistake and that has cost him. He is coming down from a massive

:26:02. > :26:12.adrenaline high. There is one race left at the Extreme Park. This will

:26:13. > :26:16.close down the event for Sochi 2014. And it is a good race, Zan Kosir

:26:17. > :26:23.against Vic Wild. So many stories here. The American who defected to

:26:24. > :26:27.Russia is racing his training partner and they have such similar

:26:28. > :26:34.styles. Just 12 hundredths of a second separating them. Vic Wild, if

:26:35. > :26:44.he takes this, will be the first man with a double gold medal in

:26:45. > :26:52.snowboarding disciplines. Vic Wild is out and Zan Kosir right behind.

:26:53. > :26:57.Nothing between them. The crowd are willing him down. The volume has

:26:58. > :27:05.gone up to 11. He is starting to pull away. Zan Kosir trying very

:27:06. > :27:10.hard, looking fluid. And that is a mistake from Vic Wild! He goes into

:27:11. > :27:21.the front! He has done enough! He is going to do it! It is so close! Zan

:27:22. > :27:28.Kosir managed to shave 100th of a second from his deficit. But the

:27:29. > :27:34.Russians are rapturous. Zan Kosir is the first man to lead double gold

:27:35. > :27:46.medal. And he has done it with an absolute masterclass in parallel

:27:47. > :27:53.slalom. Vic Wild! You said Zan Kosir! That is just the energy

:27:54. > :27:59.pouring into the commentary with. We are beside ourselves up here. Well,

:28:00. > :28:04.what is he thinking? A fantastic performance from Vic Wild to earn

:28:05. > :28:09.the gold medal. In the silver medal position, it is his training

:28:10. > :28:16.partner, Zan Kosir. And then Benjamin Karl from Austria with

:28:17. > :28:25.bronze. It is official, Russia is just wild

:28:26. > :28:29.about Vic Wild. The 10th gold medal for the host nation. And two of them

:28:30. > :28:34.have come from a man born in America and three of them from a skater born

:28:35. > :28:38.in Korea. They will take them anyway they can. Wonderful performance from

:28:39. > :28:44.this morning. And that brings to a close the programme. So much more to

:28:45. > :28:52.come, e-mail and slalom, the first run from 12:30pm. And then the

:28:53. > :28:56.four-man bobsleigh. That is it from me, I harbour ambitions for the

:28:57. > :29:00.closing ceremony. Thank you to the team in Sochi. And a brilliant night

:29:01. > :29:06.shift in Salford. Thanks for your company on the Olympic backlist.

:29:07. > :29:11.Goodbye. -- breakfast.
