:01:06. > :02:16.This time tomorrow we will be giving up for the closing ceremony and the
:02:17. > :02:22.Winter Olympics will nearly be over. Britain's medal haul of four medals
:02:23. > :02:27.is the best in 90 years and in 1924, only three teams contested
:02:28. > :02:32.curling so this is the best ever. There is a chance of one more in the
:02:33. > :02:39.four-man bobsleigh. The challenge starts tonight. And we have it all,
:02:40. > :02:44.glory, disappointment, tears of joy, tears of frustration and a fair bit
:02:45. > :02:48.of controversy. It has been a Winter Games that has entertained,
:02:49. > :02:52.enthralled and excited and beer here at the Medal Plaza because behind
:02:53. > :02:57.me, we will see for the very first time, to British medals in
:02:58. > :03:01.consecutive ceremonies. The Russians are so debating because of more
:03:02. > :03:05.medals today but in Britain, silver for the curling, bronze for the
:03:06. > :03:10.funeral curling. We will see those medals later on. The men coming up
:03:11. > :03:16.just after 5pm. And not long after that, the women will receive their
:03:17. > :03:20.bronze medal. Lots to tell you about and some headlines to catch up on.
:03:21. > :03:25.This penultimate day had the Russians celebrating, gathered
:03:26. > :03:30.around watching our screens as they took another gold medal. They are
:03:31. > :03:44.moving up the table all the time. And it came in the men's biathlon.
:03:45. > :03:52.The relay. . Bjoerndalen could only fission in -- finish in fourth. The
:03:53. > :03:59.30 kilometre mass start, Marat Juergen, it was her sixth Olympic
:04:00. > :04:08.gold. Both of those titles equal the record for any female athlete. Vic
:04:09. > :04:22.Wild becomes the first snowboarder to win can set you live medals in
:04:23. > :04:26.games. We will catch up on the last of the men's Alpine events, the
:04:27. > :04:30.slalom, but I will shortly begin Steve Cram and Jackie Lockhart over,
:04:31. > :04:35.who have sat through every Rajesh curling game. They have done so with
:04:36. > :04:39.much joy because both of those teams, but we have a chance to look
:04:40. > :04:47.back at it, what about their performance? They were great. We
:04:48. > :04:52.came here hoping they would do well, particularly the women, there were
:04:53. > :04:56.high hopes with medals, less for the men and Jackie would agree that at
:04:57. > :05:04.times, the men were exceptional, particularly in the tie-break. OK,
:05:05. > :05:08.the final was not the best and it was a coming-of-age for Eve
:05:09. > :05:14.Muirhead, back in Vancouver, the pressure coming into this, still 23,
:05:15. > :05:20.she dealt with that very well. That is a very young team full of talent.
:05:21. > :05:25.In turns of the immediate future, the women's team are very young, the
:05:26. > :05:30.men are different because David Murdoch is older, 35, not that old,
:05:31. > :05:36.but is he heading towards retirement? Or does he have one
:05:37. > :05:42.more? We spoke this morning at the office and he is delighted and I am
:05:43. > :05:45.not sure what he is thinking. Another four years of training and
:05:46. > :05:51.commitment? He is not long married, two years ago, and I am convinced
:05:52. > :05:55.that he might hang up his boots but you never do know. He has a very
:05:56. > :06:01.young team below him. If you want to continue, you can, you can be the
:06:02. > :06:05.experience and the youngsters will make your life easier. There is a
:06:06. > :06:10.big opportunity for him to continue that I am not sure. He was very
:06:11. > :06:16.emotional in his interview, he was tearful? There was a lot going
:06:17. > :06:21.through his mind and I all this feel bad when you see someone that
:06:22. > :06:27.emotional. For him, he is thinking about next, the journey, and Jackie
:06:28. > :06:32.would know more about this, the issues around that team. Tom
:06:33. > :06:37.Brewster block those youngsters together and they played very well
:06:38. > :06:40.for a couple of years. There have been people in curling for him that
:06:41. > :06:44.they had not seem like the right move. There was a lot of
:06:45. > :06:50.apprehensive emotion as well. They settled down. He will go home, all
:06:51. > :06:56.of them, and they will definitely be back next year. Maybe with Tom? If
:06:57. > :07:02.David does decide that he has had enough, there is that replacement,
:07:03. > :07:07.the man who has captained them and knows them well? Lots of
:07:08. > :07:14.opportunities. And there are a lot of curlers back home who are equally
:07:15. > :07:22.as good. There will be a lot to play for when they get back home for the
:07:23. > :07:29.championships next year. We are in a very good position to enjoy that
:07:30. > :07:32.medal ceremony. We have a chance to catch up with the earlier action in
:07:33. > :07:37.the men's slalom. The final Alpine event. We will join the second run
:07:38. > :07:47.live but first of all, it's look at the first. -- let us look.
:07:48. > :07:58.They have had a detailed course inspection. There is some guesswork
:07:59. > :08:06.involved. As they come out at race pace for the first time. Lots of
:08:07. > :08:14.rhythm changes. Lots of verticals. To get that number of gates into the
:08:15. > :08:26.course. The first two ski here today. That looks like a very neat
:08:27. > :08:30.start. From Mario Matt. His brother was knocked out in the quarterfinal
:08:31. > :08:40.stage. He flies onto that final section, he gets some sideways,
:08:41. > :08:51.recovers well. Has he done enough? Fabulous first run. The world
:08:52. > :08:56.champion. Marcel Hirscher. If it stays like this, he will have to
:08:57. > :09:04.come from behind and charge in the second run. He is in fourth place.
:09:05. > :09:11.This is confident skiing from Ted Ligety. Not bad. If he can finish,
:09:12. > :09:30.he will not be far away from Mario Matt. Fifth place. That is great.
:09:31. > :09:37.Gross is making the most of this. This has been said by one of the
:09:38. > :09:40.German coaches. No major mistakes and he is in third place. How about
:09:41. > :09:56.that from number 17? Let us discuss the chances of Dave
:09:57. > :10:02.Ryding, his big hope is to move up, may be close to 20th place.
:10:03. > :10:10.He has to have a perfect course. That was his goal for the first run,
:10:11. > :10:19.to do his best, get inside the top 30. We can look at his first run.
:10:20. > :10:34.Difficult conditions. He did an excellent jump. He set his skis at
:10:35. > :10:40.the beginning and powered through. He will be delighted at that. Mario
:10:41. > :10:48.Matt is a leader. Austria having a very good Alpine Olympics. The
:10:49. > :10:56.disappointment, Marcel Hirscher, he is way down? He will be very
:10:57. > :11:02.disappointed but he is 1.26 back and with the women, second place was in
:11:03. > :11:09.the same position. Do not ride him off, he was too hard on his edges.
:11:10. > :11:16.The other guys, like Mario Matt, he really let it run. Considering the
:11:17. > :11:20.USA don't have their big star, they are having a very good Olympics and
:11:21. > :11:26.Ted Ligety is back. He was delighted. Absolutely delighted with
:11:27. > :11:31.that and he said it was the best run he has done all season. Fantastic
:11:32. > :11:40.for him. From 16th place, when it was chopped up, and sixth places
:11:41. > :11:47.brilliant. Their big star. The 18-year-old from Colorado. In USA
:11:48. > :11:52.Today, they said she was the face of the games in four years. She has
:11:53. > :12:03.bigger marketing potential and Lindsay von. She does not show any
:12:04. > :12:13.nerves. She is very relaxed. She sleeps three runs. -- between runs.
:12:14. > :12:20.She made a mistake but did not bother her. She does that thing
:12:21. > :12:27.which is keeping her body relaxed, even in in tense situations. You see
:12:28. > :12:32.those big guns freezing up, they let that lactic acid build-up of their
:12:33. > :12:37.body. They have to move their feet so fast, if your legs are tensing
:12:38. > :12:44.up, it is impossible but she is so relaxed. With Lindsay von still
:12:45. > :12:49.recovering and the next World Championships where she lives and
:12:50. > :12:55.also Michaella, we could be at the dawn of a new start for American
:12:56. > :13:00.skiing? Especially with Bode Miller coming away from the scene, problem
:13:01. > :13:06.we will retire after this. And this young star coming through, that is
:13:07. > :13:10.brilliant. America is excited and everybody has their eyes on this
:13:11. > :13:20.woman. They could win a medal in this slalom. The second run
:13:21. > :13:25.starting. Second overall... Matt Chilton is in position to take us
:13:26. > :13:27.through this technical, talented bunch of skiers who can contest the
:13:28. > :13:39.slalom. Good afternoon. The floodlights are
:13:40. > :13:47.blazing for the final race of the Alpine programme. We are looking at
:13:48. > :13:56.this course and the pattern has been set. There is a bear trap after nine
:13:57. > :14:02.gates from the finish. It has been catching that some of those
:14:03. > :14:10.forerunners. This could be interesting. There is a gate that
:14:11. > :14:14.sends them to the right and then that hairpin, it could be
:14:15. > :14:20.interesting. The top 30 in reverse order. Dave Ryding is in good shape,
:14:21. > :14:27.he will be fought. He will have a very smooth course, they start at
:14:28. > :14:36.1160 metres above sea level with that vertical drop and 67 gates. And
:14:37. > :14:48.we are ready. The first man... Tackling the second run. And it is
:14:49. > :14:56.Bradley Spens from Canada. -- Spence. His team-mate will start
:14:57. > :15:05.next. One last look. And the time ticks over. Brad Spence is ready to
:15:06. > :15:11.go. Mario Matt will be last. Brad Spence, opening the racing. The last
:15:12. > :15:21.event of the 2014 Olympic Winter games in Sochi. He stayed on the
:15:22. > :15:38.course. I am not sure. He still made it. He has set a real stinker of a
:15:39. > :15:48.course. He said this all event of the combine. This was always good to
:15:49. > :15:56.be tough tonight. Another two flushes are set back to that. Here
:15:57. > :16:01.it comes, way over to the right. He handled that quite well, compare to
:16:02. > :16:06.how he handled the start of the course.
:16:07. > :16:12.Let's have a look on the replay of the mistake he made. He is through
:16:13. > :16:23.the red gates. I think he has made it. But on a
:16:24. > :16:39.strange way round. Let's see if Trevor Philp does
:16:40. > :16:45.better. Exactly the same time as Brad Spence. The two runs or added
:16:46. > :16:55.together. Let's see how he deals with the top section. He has lost
:16:56. > :17:00.his way. He has lost his way as well. They cannot work out what is
:17:01. > :17:07.going on here. You have got to go through the vertical gates. This is
:17:08. > :17:14.an open gate. He has got that completely wrong. This is all
:17:15. > :17:19.visible from the start. The races can all see this going on. It is
:17:20. > :17:22.just below the start. They will be scratching their heads and talking
:17:23. > :17:30.about it, all discussing how to deal with this start. Let's see if Akira
:17:31. > :17:36.Sasaki can find the best way through.
:17:37. > :17:48.He is on his way. No, he can't, either. It is impossible to ski!
:17:49. > :18:00.This is extraordinary. He has gone again. He is down. Nasty. This isn't
:18:01. > :18:05.the first time this has happened. Look down to the women's super G,
:18:06. > :18:14.the first 15 came down, made him look like beginners. Luckily the
:18:15. > :18:20.binding came off there. Dave Riding is next. Come on, Dave. -- Dave
:18:21. > :18:31.Ryding. Problems for the Japanese in the
:18:32. > :18:41.early stages. This was very nasty. Luckily the bindings are so good,
:18:42. > :18:47.that MPs will generally release. -- the toe piece.
:18:48. > :18:52.This is crazy that it is so flummoxed thing, the world's top
:18:53. > :18:59.slalom races that see if Dave Ryding can work it out.
:19:00. > :19:09.He is on his way. A chance to lead the Olympic slalom if he gets that
:19:10. > :19:19.right. He is on the back-seat. He has made Brown. -- made it Brown.
:19:20. > :19:41.He came to a grinding halt. He is not going to be the last to have
:19:42. > :19:54.problems. Only two races have been down this track. Nice and clean. A
:19:55. > :20:01.couple of tricky sections to come. He has dealt with that well. A
:20:02. > :20:13.pretty good run. Look how much time he made up. If he hadn't have had
:20:14. > :20:23.that mistake. He needed to be carving at this stage.
:20:24. > :20:29.It is a huge subject discussion at the top of the course. Everybody is
:20:30. > :20:42.passing on the word that this is a beast of a slalom course. Adam Zampa
:20:43. > :20:51.is next to go. He has just about forced the skis through that ten.
:20:52. > :20:56.That was the best of a bad job. He should be ahead at the next bit,
:20:57. > :21:12.comfortably. He has made the best of it. That was such a shame from Dave
:21:13. > :21:30.Ryding. Didn't get forward. Onto the steep now. Kostelic is responsible
:21:31. > :21:36.for this course tonight. He is in gold medal position. Dave Ryding in
:21:37. > :21:50.bronze medal position at the moment. It is the Olympic slalom. It is
:21:51. > :21:58.supposed to be tough. I don't think anybody imagined it would be quite
:21:59. > :22:03.this difficult. Adam Zampa leads, how long will that stand up? Next to
:22:04. > :22:11.go, Sebastian-Foss Solevaag from Norway. He has had a chance to look
:22:12. > :22:19.down the hill and studied the route taken by Adam Zampa. To get really
:22:20. > :22:30.easy through that section, almost slowed up. Now he is going for it,
:22:31. > :22:40.getting into his rhythm. The advantage with which he began
:22:41. > :22:51.the second run has been wiped out. A little off-balance, didn't quite get
:22:52. > :22:58.the power. In the flat section they are losing speed. Not anywhere near
:22:59. > :23:13.as inviting as it was in the first one. Adam Zampa is leading the way
:23:14. > :23:15.for Slovakia. First of the Swedish skiers, Axel Baeck, will be next to
:23:16. > :23:25.go. He has been the best three there so
:23:26. > :23:30.far. He eased up too much at the top. They are having to poll, that
:23:31. > :23:34.is what the guys are saying. They are having to push with their ski
:23:35. > :23:40.poles because they are losing the speed coming onto the flats. I am
:23:41. > :23:45.not sure if Kostelic to will be asked to set any more than a bit
:23:46. > :23:50.courses. It should be tough, but it should also be possible and
:23:51. > :24:04.entertaining. Axel Baeck for Sweden. He is going for it. Out. He
:24:05. > :24:12.struggled at red gate. Technically he didn't walk back through. You are
:24:13. > :24:21.supposed to pass between the two poles and it is set at an angle.
:24:22. > :24:24.Most setters either set open gates which are across the hill, or
:24:25. > :24:31.vertical gates which are downhill. There was nothing to stop you
:24:32. > :24:39.setting of angle vertical gates which is what we have here. There
:24:40. > :24:46.are a couple of of angle flushes. You come through this under gate,
:24:47. > :24:53.that is OK, but then there is the section straight after it. Dave
:24:54. > :25:03.Ryding still holding bronze medal position. This is where his second
:25:04. > :25:09.run came unstuck. He needs to be on the high side of that red, that is
:25:10. > :25:18.the key. All we need is another 25 skiers to go out. They will work
:25:19. > :25:24.this out. They will get course reports, they can even walk down and
:25:25. > :25:31.have a look. They could do with ripping it up and starting again.
:25:32. > :25:42.Going at that pace, he will never make it. He has made it, good job!
:25:43. > :25:54.Best we have seen at the top. He certainly has two swing to each
:25:55. > :26:03.side. His advantage has gone. The open gates are set very white, big
:26:04. > :26:11.offset from side to side. The vertical ones, very tight. They seem
:26:12. > :26:17.to be, slowly but surely, getting the hang of it. Word is spreading,
:26:18. > :26:22.the coaches are chatting. It is a true test, that is for sure. Adam
:26:23. > :26:35.Zampa is the one who has mastered it so far, he leads the way. Dave
:26:36. > :26:39.Ryding in fourth. Mario Matt will be last to go. If he wins he will be
:26:40. > :26:51.the oldest ever winner of the men's slalom. The youngest ever winner
:26:52. > :26:56.yesterday. That was a fun one! Michael Janyk is next to go. He
:26:57. > :27:06.stuttered and stumbled through the first six turns.
:27:07. > :27:17.We thought the bottom part of the course would be the problem area. We
:27:18. > :27:28.haven't quite figured on the top section. We will follow him as far
:27:29. > :27:33.as we can on the cable camera. Another under gate with two gates
:27:34. > :27:39.turning in the same direction. There are a couple of open gates here.
:27:40. > :27:47.Then into an off rhythm vertical, a couple more under gates. Then this
:27:48. > :28:00.offset flush. Goodness me. Michael Janyk is slower than Adam Zampa.
:28:01. > :28:06.Sebastian-Foss Solevaag is second. This could bring some unusual,
:28:07. > :28:10.unexpected results tonight. We haven't even talked about the course
:28:11. > :28:13.conditions. The fact that with all the races down, razor sharp edges
:28:14. > :28:19.carving the same line, there is the man responsible. Does he look happy?
:28:20. > :28:28.I am not sure. He will be watching his son next. Ivica Kostelic.
:28:29. > :28:37.Wouldn't it be ironic if he fell foul to one of his dad's traps? He
:28:38. > :28:40.is off to a positive start. Here comes the first of the traps. He has
:28:41. > :29:00.dealt with things well enough, so far. Is he still had? He is down
:29:01. > :29:11.now. His skis are washing slightly over the snow. The edges are not
:29:12. > :29:21.biting. No medals tonight for him. This will be his final Olympic
:29:22. > :29:30.appearance, at the age of 34. His last games. He is in second position
:29:31. > :29:43.at the moment. Adam Zampa office Slovakia leads. -- of Slovakia. The
:29:44. > :29:47.advantage, there is a definite track to follow, there is a ruck to
:29:48. > :29:54.forming, you can see which way will take you through the gates. He looks
:29:55. > :29:55.worried, doesn't he? He doesn't look like he is happy with the way things
:29:56. > :30:40.are working out here. like he is happy with the way things
:30:41. > :30:48.That'll be another one. like he is happy with the way things
:30:49. > :31:12.spectacle. This could be, if like he is happy with the way things
:31:13. > :31:31.do not think this is what he had planned. Adam Zampa is leading. Then
:31:32. > :31:31.do not think this is what he had particularly fast. Not as fast as
:31:32. > :31:44.Adam Zampa. particularly fast. Not as fast as
:31:45. > :32:19.section. 11 hundredths left. And the supporters
:32:20. > :32:41.section. 11 hundredths left. And the their feet. His
:32:42. > :32:51.The only Russian amongst the top 30. And he has failed to do any damage
:32:52. > :32:57.to the stop -- to the top standings. The next man, for the USA, his lead
:32:58. > :33:03.is quite significant. He just leans through there. Goodness me! By the
:33:04. > :33:17.skin of his teeth, he gets away with that! He will not be leaving, year.
:33:18. > :33:34.Three quarters of a second time. -- down. I would like to see a replay
:33:35. > :33:42.of that mistake on the bear trap. The final steep section. The fastest
:33:43. > :34:03.men after the first run, Mario Matt, Stefano Gross, Ted Ligety...
:34:04. > :34:10.This is Casper. Yes, his boot did cross in front of that blue gate. He
:34:11. > :34:20.needed to be inside. I think he might have pushed down, which would
:34:21. > :34:37.have meant he was disqualified. He has got tonnes of experience. 34
:34:38. > :34:47.years old. This is a real test. . Number 34. Lizeroux. He has missed
:34:48. > :34:54.much of the last three seasons. Almost had to jump into that short
:34:55. > :35:02.area. Lizeroux showing the way. Is he still ahead? He could be. That is
:35:03. > :35:13.a good start. The top section is breaking up. He could make up some
:35:14. > :35:21.time. That might have lost him some speed. He will have to let rip.
:35:22. > :35:28.There is not much room to accelerate. Left and right across
:35:29. > :35:34.the face of this hill. He has blown it! Lizeroux holding on but he
:35:35. > :35:42.cannot do anything. Seventh place for the Frenchman.
:35:43. > :35:51.Lizeroux was unlucky, here. Having dealt with that top section, it was
:35:52. > :36:06.the bottom stage that was biting him in the backside. He just crossed his
:36:07. > :36:18.cap 's, there. -- tips. So, Adam Zampa holding on. The four-man
:36:19. > :36:26.bobsleigh first-run has started, and you can watch that on the Red
:36:27. > :36:31.Button. And we will head their after the conclusion of this, the slalom.
:36:32. > :36:38.That is available on the Red Button. The Olympic champion from 2010
:36:39. > :36:50.getting on his way. And he hits the deck. That was the defence of his
:36:51. > :37:02.title over. His hopes and dreams ending with some snow. He has been
:37:03. > :37:12.out of form. He is happy with the way wings have gone. He has the gold
:37:13. > :37:27.medal position. These are the standings. These did not finish. I
:37:28. > :37:31.do not know where they are still standing here on the second run.
:37:32. > :37:37.Dave Ryding, for Great Britain, still holding ninth position. That
:37:38. > :37:41.was a real shame for Dave Ryding because he came to that grinding
:37:42. > :37:50.halt and stopped for about 1.5 seconds. Take that off, and he would
:37:51. > :37:57.be right up there. Once he made that mistake, he performed gently until
:37:58. > :38:11.the finish. He just fell file of that first virtually un-skiiable
:38:12. > :38:21.section. Mario Matt, he will be last. Almost as wet as that water.
:38:22. > :38:27.That is the problem, the warm temperatures. The second week on
:38:28. > :38:36.this Alpine venue. On this mountain, it has been really challenging. This
:38:37. > :38:49.should be interesting. Henrik Kristoffersen. At the age of 19 he
:38:50. > :38:54.won the night racing. He is warning that protector underneath his suit.
:38:55. > :38:58.We see a lot of crashes in slalom, people landing on their back and a
:38:59. > :39:07.lot of racers are starting to wear protectors in slalom. Nervous
:39:08. > :39:12.moments at the top. Everybody trying to maintain focus and concentration,
:39:13. > :39:17.particularly this man. The next man. Henrik Kristoffersen. He will be
:39:18. > :39:22.massively disappointed with his first performance. He will
:39:23. > :39:31.absolutely let rip on this course. Henrik Kristoffersen. The bid that
:39:32. > :39:38.lead over Adam Zampa. -- look at that lead. He has a lot of tricks
:39:39. > :39:49.and trap here. Here is the first one. He did OK. Brilliantly. The
:39:50. > :39:56.best we have seen, after Adam Zampa. How does this translate? Good. Six
:39:57. > :40:01.tenths in front, that is a solid start for Henrik Kristoffersen from
:40:02. > :40:13.Norway. He does like these offset gates, throwing his legs from side
:40:14. > :40:21.to side. This is known as the Royal flush. Going nicely. He has a steep
:40:22. > :40:25.section left to come. To his right, forcing through the turn, we might
:40:26. > :40:31.have a change in the leadership. Look at that. Henrik Kristoffersen,
:40:32. > :40:38.doing the best! And he leads the way. That is very good from Henrik
:40:39. > :40:54.Kristoffersen. He moves into the gold position. Adam Zampa is second.
:40:55. > :40:59.Dave Ryding is down in 10th place. There is a big time difference. But
:41:00. > :41:04.you never know, it is possible that he could hang on for a podium
:41:05. > :41:14.position but I do not think so. Good enough to be amongst the top five.
:41:15. > :41:24.Just over halfway. He cannot afford any mistakes, Fritz Dopfer. He has
:41:25. > :41:33.to get this right. He was cautious. He is through the toughest part of
:41:34. > :41:43.the course. Not as bad as we first thought. Yes, deceptive, clean. That
:41:44. > :41:50.is good, tight turns. He might not be far away at the next split. He
:41:51. > :42:03.has done well in the midsection! Fritz Dopfer from Germany is putting
:42:04. > :42:09.one dime. -- down. That is it gone. And Fritz Dopfer is in second place.
:42:10. > :42:14.Relief for Henrik Kristoffersen, that was touch and go all the way.
:42:15. > :42:20.Eventually, Fritz Dopfer is off the pace and into silver medal position.
:42:21. > :42:26.Henrik Kristoffersen leading. Adam Zampa in third place. There is a
:42:27. > :42:32.real contrast in styles. Fritz Dopfer is much, much cleaner. Making
:42:33. > :42:36.slightly less mistakes. Henrik Kristoffersen was just lasting.
:42:37. > :42:45.It'll pony mistakes slowing him down. That was the last mistake he
:42:46. > :42:57.made. Second place, silver medal position - for the moment. It is
:42:58. > :43:08.starting to warm up. He has to throw caution to the wind. This is
:43:09. > :43:13.scruffy. It is over. Technically, he did not put his feet through the
:43:14. > :43:20.gates. He will be disqualified. He missed the red gate, vertically, he
:43:21. > :43:34.went through the blue. But he did not go through, . You would be
:43:35. > :43:39.thinking, what is this about? Slalom is not normally like this! This is a
:43:40. > :43:53.very tricky course. We talked about this before. It is a sting. --
:43:54. > :44:05.stinker. And he stumbles at the start! He has lost time. This is
:44:06. > :44:14.Daniel Yule, racing for Switzerland. He has got Scottish parents. Born in
:44:15. > :44:25.the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Another slight mistake,
:44:26. > :44:30.there. Getting later in that line. Daniel Yule had a very good first
:44:31. > :44:36.run. From 29, he went into 12 position. That was a brilliant first
:44:37. > :44:40.run. He struggled with the technical demands of this. He has never come
:44:41. > :44:48.across anything like this in his career. And he was pretty solid, all
:44:49. > :45:01.the way through. He finishes in 11th position. A couple of mistakes, he
:45:02. > :45:05.fought back. Getting his balance. This is a mistake just as he
:45:06. > :45:11.started. He stepped on the gate he had just knocked over. The gate
:45:12. > :45:19.comes down, underneath his ski. And he stepped on the actual gate. It is
:45:20. > :45:23.not a straddle, just very unlucky. Nose slide on those gates, they
:45:24. > :45:26.offer an awful lot of friction, that slowed him right down. It is all
:45:27. > :45:40.happening here. He only has 17 hundredths in hand
:45:41. > :45:50.over Kristoffersen. He has plenty of experience. Just jumped around,
:45:51. > :45:59.switches his skis in the air. He will be in touch at this into media.
:46:00. > :46:05.1500 speed high. -- at this intermediate.
:46:06. > :46:16.Just incredible, this course. He has lost touch now. If you want to watch
:46:17. > :46:22.the four-man bobsleigh, press the red button now, you can see the
:46:23. > :46:27.opening runs in the first day of four-man bobsleigh racing and we
:46:28. > :46:34.will head there at the end of this second round of the men's slalom. We
:46:35. > :46:41.have got the fastest ten after the first run, ready to ski the second
:46:42. > :46:44.leg. The medals are about to do be decided. Kristoffersen of Norway is
:46:45. > :46:59.is in gold. They tend to start them in about
:47:00. > :47:07.minute intervals, so we will know in about ten, 15 minutes time. There is
:47:08. > :47:14.the man who will go last, hoping to become the oldest Olympic men's
:47:15. > :47:23.slalom champion, Mario Matt. Markus Larsson. The course starting to cut
:47:24. > :47:29.up, there are ruts and lumps and bumps to deal with, as well as the
:47:30. > :47:43.quirky course, courtesy of Kostelic. He is doing OK. Half a second in
:47:44. > :47:54.front, he began. He has got to let it go, attack. Little room for
:47:55. > :48:03.error. Lost a lot of speed. Look how far behind TS. This top three are
:48:04. > :48:18.separated just by six tenths of a second. Those who are in the tap ten
:48:19. > :48:39.-- top ten. The Swedish still have two more to come. It will halt up
:48:40. > :48:44.from now on in. All of the guys starting from now one could
:48:45. > :48:50.potentially get onto the podium. It is like a Who's Who in world slalom
:48:51. > :48:56.racing. Nobody better known than Marcel Hirscher, the world champion.
:48:57. > :49:06.Fast start from him. He likes this course. He sets about attacking the
:49:07. > :49:20.course. He is a little hard on his edges. He is meaning business
:49:21. > :49:27.tonight. He could really raised the bar. That was really good, the under
:49:28. > :49:33.gate into the vertical. Carried a lot of speed there. Half a second
:49:34. > :49:39.front, living dangerously at times, cutting a tight line to the gate. He
:49:40. > :49:45.has got the tricky under gate to come, deals with that nicely. Sets
:49:46. > :49:50.his sights on the finishing line, gold medal position at the moment,
:49:51. > :49:56.fabulous stop he was angry after the first run. He has used all of that
:49:57. > :50:06.anger and aggression up to produce a fantastic second run. Here she --
:50:07. > :50:13.Marcel Hirscher into gold. He has raised the bar. Ever so slightly
:50:14. > :50:17.jumping into the turns, not really getting the pressure before the four
:50:18. > :50:38.line and having to hammer on the edges.
:50:39. > :50:40.Next up, Alexis Pinturault. He leads the way at the moment by over half a
:50:41. > :50:54.second. Dave Riding will finish no worse
:50:55. > :51:23.than 23rd. -- Dave Ryding. There is some incredible footage of
:51:24. > :51:33.him on the Internet. Jean-Baptiste Grange coming up, all the big names.
:51:34. > :51:42.Andrew Myhrer is second quickest. Number 17 is the Italian, Stefano
:51:43. > :51:52.Gross. The next man in the start gate Alexis Pinturault. A little tap
:51:53. > :51:55.of the ski poles. Sometimes he messes up his starts. He made a
:51:56. > :52:27.Kleenex it there. -- clean exit. He is trailing. No, he is up. He is
:52:28. > :52:31.down. Big high side, up and down. He has a medal from the giant slalom,
:52:32. > :52:38.took the bronze there. No luck tonight in the slalom. On the tails
:52:39. > :52:49.of his skis, bounced backwards and jetted out of the course.
:52:50. > :52:56.This was fairly undignified end to his Olympic campaign. There is no
:52:57. > :53:05.way anyone can hold that and stay forward.
:53:06. > :53:09.Would have been good in the halfpipe, but not here. There are
:53:10. > :53:31.seven to go. John Jackson and his crew are about
:53:32. > :53:33.to race in the four-man bobsleigh, if you would like to watch that
:53:34. > :53:52.press the red button. He has lost a good half a second, on
:53:53. > :54:12.these first gates. He has only lost a couple of tenths
:54:13. > :54:19.of a second. Got away with it. Now he is motoring. He looks quite
:54:20. > :54:28.smooth across the flat. Better than just about anybody we have seen so
:54:29. > :54:33.far. He has gone. He skis either side of the gates, and there it
:54:34. > :54:44.ends. Marcel Hirscher ends in the medal position.
:54:45. > :55:06.We get to the sixth quickest man after the first run. He stepped on
:55:07. > :55:19.gate again. He crossed the tales of his skis.
:55:20. > :55:33.He just tried to cut a little too high on the gate.
:55:34. > :55:37.Ted Ligety is next to go. He has already taken gold in the giant
:55:38. > :55:46.slalom. He skis for a medal in the slalom.
:55:47. > :55:52.Mistakes are forgiveable honours course -- forgiveable on this
:55:53. > :56:06.course. Just five to come. You have got to
:56:07. > :56:11.think Marcel Hirscher will start to be considering he could get a medal.
:56:12. > :56:19.He will start to believe in the chance of a medal. There five to
:56:20. > :56:23.come. Grange of France, Matias Hargin of Sweden, Stefano Gross of
:56:24. > :56:32.Italy, Myra from Sweden, and Mario Matt from Austria. Dave Ryding in
:56:33. > :56:39.15th position. It just goes to show how many have not made the finish.
:56:40. > :56:50.Dave did come to a grinding halt on that first trap. He is in 15th, so
:56:51. > :56:59.his worst place is 20th. Ted Ligety in conversation. The way things are
:57:00. > :57:05.going, I cannot see the next five all making the finish. John Baptist
:57:06. > :57:08.Grange will be next. Lots of encouragement. -- Jean-Baptiste
:57:09. > :57:22.Grange. He is ready to race. Former world
:57:23. > :57:30.champion. He likes to ski a clean line, close on the gates. He has
:57:31. > :57:35.messed it up completely. He had the advantage of watching everyone
:57:36. > :57:40.else. He just couldn't get the pressure, didn't get high on that
:57:41. > :57:48.red gate so he couldn't come back up through the other side. One of the
:57:49. > :57:55.spring-loaded gates hit him on the top of his helmet. Marcel Hirscher
:57:56. > :58:07.starting to serious believe in a medal tonight. I think it is likely.
:58:08. > :58:11.We have just four to come. Before the race started we were talking
:58:12. > :58:17.about Marcel Hirscher, and Kristoffersen, bad first runs but
:58:18. > :58:18.storming second runs. Mitty is Hargin on his way, unorthodox
:58:19. > :58:40.technique. -- he is Hargin. He will be just ahead that he will
:58:41. > :58:45.have lost most of his time. It is so difficult to call, this race. Marcel
:58:46. > :58:51.Hirscher's lead appears to be intact and is Hargin can put one down in
:58:52. > :59:01.the latter stages of his second run. Is he in touch? He is not. With
:59:02. > :59:08.three, four left to challenge, Marcel Hirscher is definitely
:59:09. > :59:19.getting on the podium for stop --. Hargin has failed to convert. Three
:59:20. > :59:23.to come, Marcel Hirscher leads. Straight out of the finish area, not
:59:24. > :59:33.stopping for the camera, massively disappointed. Stefano Gross is next.
:59:34. > :59:37.He came in from a star number of 17 so he did perform in difficult
:59:38. > :59:44.conditions on the first run. Whereas Matt started three. They benefited
:59:45. > :59:52.from the lottery of the start number draw. He is used to this course
:59:53. > :59:54.being cut up. Will he cope with the pressure, he has never been in this
:59:55. > :00:05.situation? He comes out of the gate. Stumbles
:00:06. > :00:12.and studies his way through the first few turns. It is all right. It
:00:13. > :00:29.will be in touch with Marcel Hirscher. He just clings on. Now he
:00:30. > :00:36.has got to nail this under gate to vertical. He does it well. Not as
:00:37. > :00:45.well as Kristoffersen or Marcel Hirscher. There is room in amongst
:00:46. > :00:50.the medal places for Stefano Gross, the Italian comes into the final
:00:51. > :00:57.stretch. He has a big heavy edge check sideways. The lead is safe. He
:00:58. > :01:04.is third, into bonds medal position. -- bronze. Marcel Hirscher is
:01:05. > :01:08.guaranteed a medal. He wouldn't have thought that after the first run.
:01:09. > :01:27.Storming second one. We have a tie for third. We have two men left to
:01:28. > :01:39.race. Minimum bronze for Marcel Hirscher. Fritz Dopfer is looking
:01:40. > :01:45.concerned. His medal, he is tied for bronze, hangs in the balance. Can
:01:46. > :02:01.Myhrer make it count for Sweden? He is on his way. Solid looking
:02:02. > :02:09.start. He made the most of the top section. He is out. Kristoffersen is
:02:10. > :02:15.also guaranteed a medal. And there they are, the two who are certain of
:02:16. > :02:25.making the big podium embrace. It all comes down to Mario Matt, could
:02:26. > :02:31.get Austria one and two. We see where Myra's slalom came crumbling
:02:32. > :02:52.down. He needed to get above the red gate. There is one man left to race.
:02:53. > :03:04.Mario Matt has never won an Olympic medal. His younger brother has won a
:03:05. > :03:09.silver medal. In Vancouver. Marcel Hirscher wanders out into the finish
:03:10. > :03:21.area, as Mario Matt steps forward. I think he will win. He is only 19. No
:03:22. > :03:28.subtlety, whatsoever. Last man on the Hill. Double world champion. The
:03:29. > :03:38.youngest ever slalom winner last night. Can Mario Matt become the
:03:39. > :03:42.oldest? Look at the lead he has. He needs to draw on all his strength.
:03:43. > :03:51.And his massive amount of experience. A steady start. He is
:03:52. > :03:58.safely through. He has done better than anybody. Over a second in hand,
:03:59. > :04:05.he can afford a little mistake. Got to do it for this 30 somethings. He
:04:06. > :04:11.has only lost four tenths of a second stop this part of the course
:04:12. > :04:22.is crucial. He wrote it through, nicely. He didn't lose any speed. He
:04:23. > :04:29.is skiing beautifully. Superb, turns tight, this could be it, the gold
:04:30. > :04:33.medal to Mario Matt. The final stages of the Limerick slalom, Mario
:04:34. > :04:41.Matt, the 34-year-old, skis for gold, he has got it! He is the
:04:42. > :04:48.Olympic slalom champion. The oldest ever winner of the men's Olympic
:04:49. > :04:52.slalom. Marcel Hirscher takes the silver with Henrik Kristoffersen,
:04:53. > :04:59.the 19-year-old Norwegian, taking the bronze medal. What a spread of
:05:00. > :05:06.ages on the podium. Experience wins the day.
:05:07. > :05:13.Mario Matt had plenty of time to watch at the top, he saw the
:05:14. > :05:19.mistakes of his close rivals, he saw them fall and crash and watched them
:05:20. > :05:26.straddle. And then Tom he held his nerve and skied for gold. -- and
:05:27. > :05:32.then he held his nerve. So the thirtysomethings coming good at the
:05:33. > :05:38.Olympics, the final Alpine race of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games came
:05:39. > :05:44.right down to the wire. The Austrians had the medal table in the
:05:45. > :05:51.Alpine programme. They conclude with gold in the men's slalom. Mario
:05:52. > :05:55.Matt's final Olympics and he has struck gold. A big party in Saint
:05:56. > :06:04.Anton Samad, crazy kangaroo will be going absolutely insane. This is how
:06:05. > :06:06.he did it. Experience, composure and skill. Brilliant from Mario Matt. He
:06:07. > :06:18.is the Olympic slalom champion. CLARE BALDING: If you want to watch
:06:19. > :06:20.Final Score, it is available on the red button, we are staying with
:06:21. > :06:24.Winter Olympics and because very soon we will see our British curlers
:06:25. > :06:30.receive their medals but their chance to reflect on a slalom
:06:31. > :06:40.Olympic race the like of which we have never seen. That was some
:06:41. > :06:44.course. I think Kostelic who set the course perhaps had too many vodkas
:06:45. > :06:49.when he created it! It was a shame for many of the races, so many
:06:50. > :06:52.crashed. The right guys came out on top and it is great to see Mario
:06:53. > :06:56.Matt on top but it is such a shame to see slalom racing at its best
:06:57. > :07:00.like that. We get the confirmation of the standings.
:07:01. > :07:06.It was amazing how many good skiers did not finish. Mario Matt coming
:07:07. > :07:11.down last, and Marcel Hirscher who wins his first Olympic medal. Have
:07:12. > :07:15.been so frustrated and when he finished at other levels in the
:07:16. > :07:19.giant slalom, he said his best chance of a medal was gone and he
:07:20. > :07:22.was so upset, he finished fourth and fifth in Vancouver so this is a big
:07:23. > :07:25.metal moment for him and his compatriots who is the oldest ever
:07:26. > :07:31.gold medallist in the slalom takes the gold ahead of him. I know he was
:07:32. > :07:34.incredibly frustrated after his first run, coming in is the
:07:35. > :07:37.strongest and the favourite but actually the second run really
:07:38. > :07:42.suited his type of skiing because he senses beat so far out in the course
:07:43. > :07:48.was so tricky with big offset gates so it suited the way he skis. Dave
:07:49. > :07:54.Matt finished 15th so he did very well, a bad mistake -- they've
:07:55. > :07:59.Ryding. He made a big mistake, the almost stood still after that but
:08:00. > :08:03.then he was sensational and he can be proud about run. Big crowds in
:08:04. > :08:07.the medals plaza and they are gathering now for the medal ceremony
:08:08. > :08:14.for the men's curling. And Canada, for the first time, have done the
:08:15. > :08:18.gold medal doubles with the women skipped by Jennifer Jones and they
:08:19. > :08:21.won the men's as well but Great Britain will appear on the podium
:08:22. > :08:26.for both of these medal ceremonies. Lots of Canadian funds into cheer
:08:27. > :08:32.their boys, the buff boys as they are called. And Jennifer Jones and
:08:33. > :08:37.her side. But it is a wonderful site, Jackie Lockhart is with me,
:08:38. > :08:40.you have killed at three Olympic Games for Great Britain and this is
:08:41. > :08:49.the first time that in both men's and women's, British teams will come
:08:50. > :08:54.out to receive medals. , -- you have curled at three Olympic Games. Lots
:08:55. > :08:58.of preparation and it is great to see the medals coming through at the
:08:59. > :09:01.end. We have been successful at worlds and Europeans but to do it at
:09:02. > :09:07.the Olympics is marvellous. They are led out onto the stage and the
:09:08. > :09:11.presentation of the medals will be made by a man Steve Cram knows very
:09:12. > :09:15.well, a formally big sprint champion, I should never say
:09:16. > :09:19.former, and other big sprint champion in 1972 for the I have
:09:20. > :09:28.never met him, I know lots about him, one of the all-time greats, won
:09:29. > :09:31.the double in 1972 and you will not remember this, Clare Balding, but
:09:32. > :09:39.American sprinters were so good at the time, two of them missed their
:09:40. > :09:43.quarterfinals. I think they slept in and they could not do the 200
:09:44. > :09:49.metres, I think they won the relay in the end and the soviet union
:09:50. > :09:53.hero, he is actually Ukrainian. I think you have something to do with
:09:54. > :10:00.the Ukrainian national Olympic committee as well. Here come the
:10:01. > :10:05.presentation party and you saw the British team coming out and waving
:10:06. > :10:09.and smiling and having been deflated and disappointed after losing their
:10:10. > :10:12.final heavily, now they can really celebrate the glories of winning a
:10:13. > :10:16.medal in this competition, David Murdoch in particular. And an
:10:17. > :10:25.achievement that he has been trying and striving after for many years.
:10:26. > :10:32.Craig Reedie up there as well, he has a new role with WADA which is
:10:33. > :10:37.very important. I know this will be a very proud moment for him. And of
:10:38. > :10:44.course, a Great Britain team and for Scotland in particular, Jackie, you
:10:45. > :10:51.have been talking about how much you have been getting reports back home
:10:52. > :10:55.and in Aberdeen, they are expecting 300 people to turn up and have a go.
:10:56. > :11:00.I have had lots of communication back home and curling has exploded
:11:01. > :11:07.back home, it is so good to see. What platform this has been an good
:11:08. > :11:10.players out there have just highlighted and risen our sport much
:11:11. > :11:18.more than we ever anticipated. It is wonderful to see. It is a rather
:11:19. > :11:25.large medals presentation party than normally happens. But they will each
:11:26. > :11:30.carry out different medals to present and I am reliably informed
:11:31. > :11:35.that Valerie bought supple make the silver medal presentation.
:11:36. > :11:39.Meanwhile, the athletes are waiting behind their spec two podiums for
:11:40. > :12:02.their moment. You can see Tom Brewster and David
:12:03. > :12:06.Murdoch grinning away, the ultimate... Claire, this has been a
:12:07. > :12:11.great addition, the whole medals plaza idea. And the Olympics being
:12:12. > :12:16.separated, everybody in the mountains in the snow of events and
:12:17. > :12:20.then the ice events down here. It is a great thing to do to give them the
:12:21. > :12:26.chance to get the medal in front of big crowds. To have a special
:12:27. > :12:33.ceremony like this is fantastic for them. . Stepping forward to receive
:12:34. > :12:35.their medals, the bronze medal winning team of Sweden. They beat
:12:36. > :12:40.China in their bronze medal match, their skip Niklas Edin was so
:12:41. > :12:44.distraught after losing the semifinal to Great Britain. They can
:12:45. > :12:50.now enjoy a fine moment with his team. They have been in many ways
:12:51. > :12:53.the form curlers over the past couple of years in World
:12:54. > :13:00.Championships and World Cup competitions. Is, the announcer said
:13:01. > :13:04.Sebastien Coe, but it was Sebastian Kraupp. The Swedes, the world
:13:05. > :13:08.champions will have come here with high hopes and Canada were the
:13:09. > :13:11.favourites. But Jackie Lockhart would agree, so please do see them
:13:12. > :13:14.on the rostrum. It was a tough bronze medal match, probably one of
:13:15. > :13:19.their best throughout the tournament against China winning it in the
:13:20. > :13:23.extra end. A couple of mistakes from China but I think most people will
:13:24. > :13:27.be pleased to see Sweeting getting the rostrum. Yes, these guys have
:13:28. > :13:33.travelled all over the world and they have trained for a long time
:13:34. > :13:36.and current world champions and they were desperate to get the medal and
:13:37. > :13:41.they have to fight hard for it. And I think it is very well-deserved.
:13:42. > :13:48.They are really appreciated by all their friends out there and the
:13:49. > :13:52.other curling teams. Great rivalry but also great friendships out
:13:53. > :13:56.there. Just to confirm that the ultimate, even if they have not
:13:57. > :14:00.played in any matches, they do receive a medal, they are part of
:14:01. > :14:04.the team and help in the preparation. -- to confirm the
:14:05. > :14:10.alternate and that is what you see five men, not four.
:14:11. > :14:20.Silver medallists, representing Great Britain,
:14:21. > :14:30.And now, a male British curling team steps up to receive a medal at the
:14:31. > :14:36.Winter Olympics for the first time since 1924. And they've Medoc, 35
:14:37. > :14:45.years old, from Lockerbie, alongside the youngsters, Greg Drummond, ,
:14:46. > :14:48.Michael Goodfellow from Stirling and the alternate Tom Brewster from
:14:49. > :14:53.Aberdeen, this is their moment and Sir Craig Reedie handing the silver
:14:54. > :14:57.medals to them and putting them around their necks. And look at
:14:58. > :15:01.David Murdoch, he keeps looking at it, he cannot believe it's that
:15:02. > :15:12.after all this time, it has happened. He has had to Olympics
:15:13. > :15:16.before this. And there is Tom Brewster who helped get these three
:15:17. > :15:21.guys to where they got to. And for David Murdoch, you said earlier, the
:15:22. > :15:26.emotion he had in the interview afterwards, it is tough to come back
:15:27. > :15:31.and Jackie knows what it is like to come forth in the Olympics and it is
:15:32. > :15:34.four years, that is a long time to motivate yourself and make the
:15:35. > :15:38.commitment and to say he will give it another go so well done to him
:15:39. > :15:44.and all the guys. A lovely moment as Tom Brewster got his medal, David
:15:45. > :15:48.Murdoch led the pros and the whole team applauded him for the party has
:15:49. > :15:53.played. -- led the applause. And looking at Dave's face, particularly
:15:54. > :15:59.for him, if this can be topped, you wonder. We will wait for the
:16:00. > :16:07.decision that he will take. Whatever happens, this is just magnificent
:16:08. > :16:11.for him and the team. This is really a special moment for the guys, a
:16:12. > :16:15.special moment for everybody back home who has supported them and all
:16:16. > :16:21.the fans and I spoke today this morning and he couldn't actually...
:16:22. > :16:26.He wanted to see Lizzy Yarnold's medal. You will have one later on
:16:27. > :16:31.today, I said to them. It is wonderful. And now the team that
:16:32. > :16:36.beat Great Britain in that gold-medal match, they won 9-3 and
:16:37. > :16:40.the match was conceded after eight ends, they have been so strong
:16:41. > :16:51.throughout the tournament. Their skip Brad Jacobs, Ryan Harnden and
:16:52. > :16:57.the ultimate scale and lazy -- and known as the buff boys because they
:16:58. > :17:00.are in extreme physical shape and curling is massive on Canadian
:17:01. > :17:04.television, only ice hockey rates higher in so these guys are also
:17:05. > :17:11.liberty back in Canada and this for them, they will have felt they
:17:12. > :17:16.deserved it and probably because they may have expected it. Yes, they
:17:17. > :17:21.did. Their country did and it took them two or three matches to realise
:17:22. > :17:25.they were going to have to treat this as everybody else did, with the
:17:26. > :17:29.spec it deserves. The other pigs are different and they are undoubtedly
:17:30. > :17:34.perhaps the best team in the world -- the Olympics are different. They
:17:35. > :17:38.were good, they are not everybody's cup party in terms of their style,
:17:39. > :17:41.they are in your face, they have a level of intensity which hopes their
:17:42. > :17:46.game. It does not come across well to others necessarily but that is
:17:47. > :17:50.the way they play and that is the way they win. Talking to our guys
:17:51. > :17:53.last but, they said the Canadian team were much more subdued here
:17:54. > :17:58.than they have been in other tournaments and certainly if they
:17:59. > :18:02.were in front of a home crowd, they would have beat their chests a lot
:18:03. > :18:08.more. I think what Steve said there, the whole mannerism, they are very
:18:09. > :18:11.cocky but when they got here, they realised this competition is
:18:12. > :18:16.different from everything else. It is the Olympic Games and the
:18:17. > :18:21.pressure got to these guys and initially, I think it took them a
:18:22. > :18:25.few days before they started holding their shoulders back and acted like
:18:26. > :18:29.they normally do. They have won eight and won it impressively and we
:18:30. > :18:47.will now hear the national anthem of Canada, Oh, Canada.
:18:48. > :20:13.Britain, the curling teams. At the MUSIC: Canadian
:20:14. > :25:47.They will enjoy every single moment. It is something you can go back to.
:25:48. > :25:56.Did you think this would happen for them? I had hoped it would happen.
:25:57. > :26:01.That was the plan, give her the experience. She has grown so much,
:26:02. > :26:06.this whole team have grown. They have put in all the commitment and
:26:07. > :26:19.effort and look at this, they will be standing up on the podium,
:26:20. > :26:36.collecting a medal. That is the President of the International
:26:37. > :26:42.Paralympic committee. -- Committee. Again, they have a larger than usual
:26:43. > :26:49.presentation committee. Eve Muirhead coming in as skipper when she was
:26:50. > :26:54.only 19 at Vancouver, the experience of that, coming here as a
:26:55. > :27:03.23-year-old, she has been through it and having the support she had from
:27:04. > :27:20.Anna Sloan and Vicki Adams, they are a very tight and good group of
:27:21. > :27:31.friends. Look how big the medals have got. For Valeri Borzov, back in
:27:32. > :27:37.1972, I guess it was a surprise for many. He had a great year the year
:27:38. > :27:56.before, but it is great to see old champions being part of the
:27:57. > :27:59.ceremony. As they go through the translations, onto the Russian
:28:00. > :28:08.version, Great Britain will be the first to receive their medals. They
:28:09. > :28:18.are wearing those fine hearts and they were so delighted -- hats. They
:28:19. > :28:37.were able to celebrate because they won their march -- match.
:28:38. > :28:44.Representing Great Britain, what a proud moment for Eve Muirhead, Anna
:28:45. > :28:55.Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton and Lauren Gray. You must be so
:28:56. > :29:00.proud. This is fantastic, I am sure there will be tears back home. You
:29:01. > :29:08.saw the smile on their faces, they are so delighted. Very difficult to
:29:09. > :29:12.come here as world champions, people raise their game, they fought hard
:29:13. > :29:18.to get that bronze medal. I am sure they will not be able to believe it.
:29:19. > :29:29.The medals are getting bigger and heavier. I am so impressed. It is
:29:30. > :29:36.lovely that he is making this presentation. He has been a very
:29:37. > :29:45.influential figure in Great Britain and now all around the world. This
:29:46. > :29:56.will not be the last time we see these girls on a podium. They have
:29:57. > :30:02.many more medals to collect. They were beaten by Canada, who have won
:30:03. > :30:08.the gold medal. The way the competition works, they ended up in
:30:09. > :30:14.the bronze medal match because they drew Canada in the semifinal. If
:30:15. > :30:21.Canada where the best team, I think we were second best. The girls would
:30:22. > :30:27.I accept that Canada deserved the gold medal. We will see them in a
:30:28. > :30:33.second. They can be so proud of their achievement. They will be
:30:34. > :30:41.back. Four years may seem like a long time, but it is amazing how
:30:42. > :30:53.quickly it will come around. Stepping forward, the side that has
:30:54. > :30:58.taken the silver medal. Sweden. It was gold in the last two Olympic
:30:59. > :31:08.Games for the Swedish curling team. They have a new skip. Margaretha
:31:09. > :31:13.Sigfridsson led her team to an exceptional silver medal. They did
:31:14. > :31:19.not always play at their best. They managed to dig out a victory when
:31:20. > :31:29.they needed it most. Even in that final, they played well, even until
:31:30. > :31:36.the last couple of Games. Maria Prytz played a shot which gave two
:31:37. > :31:43.away. It was down to the ninth end when they lost the two. Other than
:31:44. > :31:54.that, they were very quiet and confident and played well. Without
:31:55. > :32:05.question, you would have had to have taken this away from Canada.
:32:06. > :32:18.Jennifer Jones was not the skip in Vancouver. They did not win the gold
:32:19. > :32:26.medal in Vancouver. There are so many good teams that could represent
:32:27. > :32:31.Canada. For Jennifer Jones, it has been the culmination of a long
:32:32. > :32:36.campaign. Sweden are no longer the Olympic champions. That title
:32:37. > :32:43.belongs to Canada and for Jennifer Jones, she did get through the
:32:44. > :32:49.trials in 2005, but not in 2009. She has had to wait a long time for
:32:50. > :32:59.this. She is 39 years old and recently became a mother. Her
:33:00. > :33:07.partner is here. This is their moment, they can jump for joy.
:33:08. > :33:11.Canada has been unbeaten and take the gold medal. Jennifer Jones
:33:12. > :33:24.there. They have worked together so well. They have played very well all
:33:25. > :33:34.season to get here they played well in the Olympic trials. Jennifer
:33:35. > :33:44.Jones has a tear in her eye. Jill Officer there. Those two, when they
:33:45. > :33:49.were teenagers, Jennifer Jones asked Jill Officer to play in her team.
:33:50. > :33:56.She said even then, Jennifer Jones was her hero, even when she was a
:33:57. > :34:02.teenager. Dawn McEwen, she was a brilliant lead for them. You grow up
:34:03. > :34:13.as caves, you dream of winning an Olympic gold medal and it comes to
:34:14. > :34:18.fruition -- children. And Great Britain should be proud to be on the
:34:19. > :34:23.podium and standing next to a side this good and, who knows, maybe one
:34:24. > :34:28.day Eve Muirhead and her team will be good enough to be in the central
:34:29. > :34:34.position. Jackie believes they could be back here with another big medal
:34:35. > :34:35.in four-year 's' time. For the second time, we will hear the
:34:36. > :35:59.Canadian national anthem. CHEERING. And you can hear the
:36:00. > :36:05.cheering from here. Congratulations to Canada. Final score follows
:36:06. > :36:10.immediately and we will be back at six o'clock with more live action
:36:11. > :36:15.from the Winter Olympics. We will be catching up with the four-man bob.
:36:16. > :36:20.Jackson and his crew have been going well in training. We will see if
:36:21. > :36:24.they can put that into practice now that it matters. This is a
:36:25. > :36:31.photograph that the British girls will treasure and a medal that they
:36:32. > :36:34.genuinely, genuinely deserve. Jackie Lockhart is smiling like a proud
:36:35. > :36:42.mother watching this. You look so delighted. I feel like the old
:36:43. > :36:45.mother hen. I used to curl with some of these girls and it is nice to see
:36:46. > :36:51.them doing so well, really wonderful. British fans have
:36:52. > :36:55.travelled here and the men and women have family members and friends and
:36:56. > :37:02.it is lovely they can share it. And when they go back to Stirling to
:37:03. > :37:24.train they will get more attention and congratulations. We go off the
:37:25. > :37:26.air with huge congratulations. Final score is coming up after this.
