:00:43. > :00:47.Welcome back to the south coast of Russia for the Winter Olympics and
:00:48. > :00:52.we will not be able to say that too many more times because this time
:00:53. > :00:55.tomorrow the closing ceremony will be in progress. There are some
:00:56. > :00:59.medals still to be wrapped up and already this evening we have stood
:01:00. > :01:04.in the medals Plaza and watched something that has never happened
:01:05. > :01:07.before, to British teams stood up to win medals in curling. We will be
:01:08. > :01:12.reflecting on that and everything else that has happened in the
:01:13. > :01:24.highlights programme tonight. It will be the last one of those that I
:01:25. > :01:26.is coming your way. It is a crisp and clear night and perfect for
:01:27. > :01:28.sliding on ice. The four-man bobsleigh has been underway
:01:29. > :01:32.tonight. There are two runs tomorrow when the medals will be decided and
:01:33. > :01:37.the two runs today when medals can be lost. The best ranked team in the
:01:38. > :01:44.world get the chance to go first. We will catch up on that now.
:01:45. > :02:02.Here is Germany. Here we go. You get an idea straightaway as to the push
:02:03. > :02:10.speed. That is a good push speed, only six tenths outside the record.
:02:11. > :02:22.The fastest push we ever saw was by a Latvian crew. The important thing
:02:23. > :02:26.for Maximilian Arndt is that he is close because his driving skills are
:02:27. > :02:28.phenomenal. He just clipped the woodwork there and a slight side --
:02:29. > :02:34.slide. That was only a light tap in 11 and
:02:35. > :03:01.that is OK. One to go. That is a new track
:03:02. > :03:05.record. This is Steven Holcomb. He is the pilot. When you start record
:03:06. > :03:09.and there is nothing wrong with his calf muscle at all. Holding back in
:03:10. > :03:19.training was the right thing to do, the Olympic champion trying to hold
:03:20. > :03:26.just over 76 kilometres an hour. They are it is magnificent, they are
:03:27. > :03:27.doing well. They started well and they are continuing to do well here.
:03:28. > :03:39.They are only six hundredths town. A really high line into 11 and
:03:40. > :03:44.slightly sideways out of 11 but they avoid the tap. Up the hill and that
:03:45. > :03:54.is better, it is very straight, he is keeping a straight line. Coming
:03:55. > :03:58.through now, 54.88 bit and just 0.01 away from the lead. This could be
:03:59. > :04:04.incredibly competitive, right down to the wire across the four runs.
:04:05. > :04:19.This is the number-1 snow from Russia. Are we going to see
:04:20. > :04:28.something special here? It is not bad. It is not bad at all. It is
:04:29. > :04:40.faster than there was only 100 of a second.
:04:41. > :04:45.We will get a good idea in the next split if he is gaining on the
:04:46. > :04:51.Germans. It is even and the speed now is not good at all for the
:04:52. > :04:57.Russians. They are still 100 up and in a straight line, absolutely
:04:58. > :05:03.pinpointed his position now. He is flying. Arrowhead, beautiful and
:05:04. > :05:10.straight from 15 to 16. Not as quick as the Germans but he has got the
:05:11. > :05:18.lead, a new track record. That was a run of mixed fortunes. He did well
:05:19. > :05:26.and Steven Holcomb knows it. The first three slides have been
:05:27. > :05:38.absolutely phenomenal. This is the Germans. Thomas Florschuetz.
:05:39. > :05:46.It is not a brilliant start but they are well under five seconds. He will
:05:47. > :05:52.be pretty pleased with that. It is quicker than Maximilian Arndt two
:05:53. > :06:01.sits in second. That was the biggest worry. He does not have the power of
:06:02. > :06:06.the speed of the massive men behind him but the four man Bob will
:06:07. > :06:14.pushing close enough that they can mix it. That is a lovely changeover.
:06:15. > :06:23.All three pushers are athletes on the track. They are going well. A
:06:24. > :06:30.couple of touches but all things being equal it is not a bad run.
:06:31. > :06:34.Coming through, 55.06. Germany had three crews all inside the top ten
:06:35. > :06:38.in the world so it does not surprise me that the third bobsleigh for them
:06:39. > :06:51.is a little bit slower. This is the second Russia one.
:06:52. > :07:00.4.85, it is not quick. It is not the quickest we have seen that it keeps
:07:01. > :07:09.them in the game. They are behind the other Russia sled.
:07:10. > :07:17.He has paid the price for the slower start. One thing we have seen from
:07:18. > :07:22.this team is that they are fighters. It was 11th after the first run in
:07:23. > :07:25.the two-man and just missed out on the medals. This is the quickest
:07:26. > :07:30.speed we have seen through that speed gun but it can be a bit
:07:31. > :07:37.confusing that's been done there. It does show some strange times. They
:07:38. > :07:48.were quite high going into that corner. It is not bad. 55.11, they
:07:49. > :07:53.are in fifth place. Not bad at all. This is Latvia one. These guys
:07:54. > :08:05.reckon they could start as quick as 4.75. They are the start record
:08:06. > :08:08.holders. They are in very early. 4.77 is OK. It is not as quick as
:08:09. > :08:14.they wanted but it is the fastest star we've seen so far and the
:08:15. > :08:18.fastest -- the new start record. The crucial thing is, are they still
:08:19. > :08:25.going to be up? Yes they are but only by 100th of a second. That was
:08:26. > :08:31.not a good place to take a touch, gravity is not on your side there.
:08:32. > :08:35.That was a solid line. They are the ringers from last year's test events
:08:36. > :08:40.just 12 months ago. People joke about the curse of the test event.
:08:41. > :08:45.Only one crew in history has won the test event and done the gold in the
:08:46. > :08:54.game year. They are going well since that tap.
:08:55. > :09:07.55.10, they are in fifth place. That is not out of place -- touch. Steven
:09:08. > :09:11.Holcomb is in bronze medal position. There is only 2100th between those
:09:12. > :09:18.crews. The Russian team are still in the lead. This is the second Germany
:09:19. > :09:26.team. Francesco Friedrich. Here we go. Good sprinting.
:09:27. > :09:40.4.78 is good. Phenomenal start there. Youngest ever world champion
:09:41. > :09:45.at 22 for Francesco Friedrich in the two-man. He has got a great start,
:09:46. > :09:49.the best of the German pilots in the terms of starting which gives him a
:09:50. > :09:56.big chance. Does he really have the experience? We will find out in a
:09:57. > :10:09.moment. It looks pretty good so far. Good speed. He has got clean runs so
:10:10. > :10:19.far. No .11 of a second down. Sideways into 14 and the eyes got
:10:20. > :10:30.kicked up, that has cost him. 55.15, that is seventh fastest so far.
:10:31. > :10:40.There we go, 4.82, they are down in sixth place -- eighth place. Lyndon
:10:41. > :10:42.Rush got bronze in Vancouver. He did not get on with this track last
:10:43. > :10:57.year. S go on through corner five. How is this led running through
:10:58. > :11:07.seven, that is not a bad line but they are 19 hundredths town. That is
:11:08. > :11:15.a bit slower than we have seen. A little touch on the left-hand side.
:11:16. > :11:19.Through 15 he is letting it run with a higher line and most. He is trying
:11:20. > :11:32.to get speed up here but he may well have clipped to 16 on the woodwork.
:11:33. > :11:39.He ends up over half a second down. Here we go. One of the fastest
:11:40. > :11:47.sprinters in the UK, he is acting as the brakeman today. Here we go. The
:11:48. > :11:52.start is key for the British. They took a silver medal in the World Cup
:11:53. > :11:59.this season, a silver medal at the European Championships. Absolutely
:12:00. > :12:07.spot on equal with the Russians. They had some bad runs also. Let us
:12:08. > :12:12.see how this goes. Five hundredths back year. No mistakes so far. Great
:12:13. > :12:24.Britain are going well. They are running superbly here. That was
:12:25. > :12:30.arrow straight. 11 hundredths back. The USA is seven hundredths behind
:12:31. > :12:34.the Russians. A little bit of a touch they are. Because of the icy
:12:35. > :12:38.conditions worsening, if they can get into seven or eight position,
:12:39. > :12:44.they will do well here. Three tenths back. It is in 10th place they are.
:12:45. > :13:07.It is Team GB two. In they go. Not a great start, they
:13:08. > :13:13.are in 15th place. Craig Pickering had to pull out, Andrew Matthews
:13:14. > :13:17.came in. Andrew Matthews, a world-class sprinter. It is very
:13:18. > :13:29.hard to replace Craig Pickering, it was good that Andrew Marr threes was
:13:30. > :13:42.able to step in. -- and Andrew Matthews was able to step in. Laming
:13:43. > :13:53.Deen has done well. They go behind the first GB team, let's check the
:13:54. > :13:58.speed. 55.91, they go into 18th position.
:13:59. > :14:05.Knowing the track as well as they do, a real advantage for the home
:14:06. > :14:13.side, Russia are out in front, but there is still hope for Team GB,
:14:14. > :14:18.because they were 13 at the last Championships, and they came up to
:14:19. > :14:21.fourth place. They go in reverse order of the top 20, seven the
:14:22. > :14:29.second run, BC the second GB team and we we join Colin and Paul. -- we
:14:30. > :14:52.rejoin Colin and Paul. The driver is Lamin Deen, very go,
:14:53. > :15:04.Simon is a sobering freight Commonwealth Games later on in the
:15:05. > :15:09.summer. -- Lamin Deen is hoping for a Commonwealth Games. It is a shame
:15:10. > :15:16.that Craig Pickering could not make it. They are doing well here, Great
:15:17. > :15:23.Britain, let us see if they can pull away. They're holding three
:15:24. > :15:28.hundredths of a second. Three hundredths of a second doesn't seem
:15:29. > :15:48.like much. One would expect them to get faster now. Their first line
:15:49. > :16:00.with city 5.9, three tenths of a second quicker. -- 65.9. That is a
:16:01. > :16:12.magnificent time. Very, very good indeed.
:16:13. > :16:21.A little bit of a bomb before six. The pressure took them right up to
:16:22. > :16:26.the woodwork, something they can work on.
:16:27. > :16:31.So, not a bad effort, let us join the second run live with Colin and
:16:32. > :16:46.Paul. So, Canada two, you have just seen
:16:47. > :16:56.Canada one going down. They are in third place at the moment. The
:16:57. > :17:01.leaders 151.09. Canada to have an excellent chance of taking the lead
:17:02. > :17:11.here. 0.25 other second in the lead that is good. They lost 100th of a
:17:12. > :17:15.second out of the start. Each team going down here has a slight time
:17:16. > :17:27.advantage, which is the aggregate of all four runs. A bit of a sideways
:17:28. > :17:34.slide. Somehow, they are still pulling away from the USA. One of
:17:35. > :17:45.the faster speeds we have seen, 0.34 of the second, so they hit the
:17:46. > :17:57.left-hand side. They take the lead, Canada two. Coming through, 150.78.
:17:58. > :18:05.That is 0.31 in the lead. That is a significant lead. Canada two are
:18:06. > :18:14.still active ahead of Canada one. Lyndon Rush ahead of Chris Spring,
:18:15. > :18:24.my goodness, that is good. Lyndon Rush, the Olympic bronze medallist,
:18:25. > :18:29.Vancouver on the front, avoiding a really heavy hit. He was coming late
:18:30. > :18:39.out of corner at 11 and he shot over to the left-hand wall. Some tricky
:18:40. > :18:47.steering. There is the situation. Canada two are in the lead. The
:18:48. > :18:54.United States, 0.31 of a second behind. This is Team GB one, what a
:18:55. > :19:03.chance for John James Jackson, also first two at Benson, Stewart Tasker
:19:04. > :19:20.and Joel Fearon. -- also for Stuart Benson. Keeping calm. These guys,
:19:21. > :19:24.they need to have a massive start. Joel Fearon on the back, the fastest
:19:25. > :19:32.man of bobsleigh at the moment. Still some movement as they come
:19:33. > :19:37.into corner one. 50.8 kilometres per hour, that is a world-class start
:19:38. > :19:41.for Team GB, and they are well in the lead. Hitting the right hand
:19:42. > :19:48.side by one seventh of a second ahead. They are going well. Canada
:19:49. > :19:53.two, they had nine hundredths of a second, but they extended early.
:19:54. > :19:59.They need a massive run here. They would be pushing for the medals
:20:00. > :20:03.tomorrow. 0.21 of a second ahead of Canada. A bit of a knock on the
:20:04. > :20:18.left-hand side. They did not send them into a slide, that is the good
:20:19. > :20:20.news. 2400th, almost a quarter of a second. One of the fastest speeds we
:20:21. > :20:26.have seen. 55.27, their first run was 55.26. That is good. We saw the
:20:27. > :20:31.first couple of crews that came through in the first run a lot
:20:32. > :20:35.quicker, now, almost identical to the first run, but the good news
:20:36. > :20:40.Great Britain is, the condition are worsening, that is why this is
:20:41. > :20:45.happening. Conditions will get worse and worse. These big, heavy
:20:46. > :20:49.bobsleigh is archiving chunks out of the corners. Look at the front
:20:50. > :20:57.steering. They are making sure that the runners are absolutely straight
:20:58. > :21:05.going into the corners. This is when you can go into a slide, it's taken
:21:06. > :21:34.experienced pilots to do the steers. Switzerland in ninth place, 55.21.
:21:35. > :21:41.That is a really fast start, it equals what the British did.
:21:42. > :21:46.Exceptional on the frost handle, Ben Hefty. Probably the best of all of
:21:47. > :21:53.them, and he is the pilot. Team GB, they had five hundredths, but Ben
:21:54. > :21:58.Hefty is losing a bit of time here. They have gone behind 100 other
:21:59. > :22:05.second behind. See if the Swiss can hold this together. Incredible
:22:06. > :22:12.pressure on the athletes on that corner. A hundredth of a second in
:22:13. > :22:23.it. A little touch, that will reduce the speed, 0.0 to a second ahead.
:22:24. > :22:26.What are we going to get? Plus zero point to other second, Great Britain
:22:27. > :22:33.and Northern Ireland are in the lead still. They managed to gather in
:22:34. > :22:38.five hundredths of a difference. The next couple of crews, they do not
:22:39. > :22:42.have that big time advantage on Team GB, Canada has nine hundredths of a
:22:43. > :22:48.second, then Germany two has 11 hundredths of a second, then the
:22:49. > :22:52.Russians in sixth place, there is about 15 hundredths of a second.
:22:53. > :22:58.Team GB could be in the leaders box for a while, and things could just
:22:59. > :23:03.go their way. Up at the top, out of corner one, down to two. This is
:23:04. > :23:07.where Ben Hefty lasted. He overcooked it a little bit. It is
:23:08. > :23:12.hard to explode at the top and then have a pilot get a Zen like
:23:13. > :23:21.relaxation, just to get through the corners. You cannot be heavy-handed
:23:22. > :23:36.on the piloting. This is Canada three. Justin Kripps as and go. --
:23:37. > :23:40.Justin Kripps and company. They were one of the faster starters on the
:23:41. > :23:52.first run. 4.76, they got identical times. A terrifying start for the
:23:53. > :23:58.Canadians. Extreme powerhouse. Going through the first few corners, 15
:23:59. > :24:02.hundredths up on Great Britain. Carrying an advantage of about one
:24:03. > :24:09.tenth of the second. A bit hard through the first gate of six. A
:24:10. > :24:20.good line through seven. One tenth of a second on Team GB as they enter
:24:21. > :24:23.into the corner. Oh, my goodness! That is terrible, they have crashed,
:24:24. > :24:30.they have got sucked into the corner and flipped. I take no delight in
:24:31. > :24:35.their crash, but it is heavily damaging the track, and for those
:24:36. > :24:42.that come afterwards, it means the track will not be in good condition
:24:43. > :24:46.at all. Let us hope that these chaps are OK. That is not the most violent
:24:47. > :24:54.of crashes when you flip like that, you rarely get hurt. They all
:24:55. > :24:59.managed to talk in their heads. The Team GB boys take no delight on
:25:00. > :25:04.that. Nobody wants to see a crash like that. News travelling fast. It
:25:05. > :25:12.is absolute silence down at the finish. You go to low into a corner
:25:13. > :25:16.and the pressure comes on and you try to steer around the bottom of
:25:17. > :25:21.the corner and it flips you into the corner. The G-force, the centrifugal
:25:22. > :25:26.force will send you to the top. Eventually, you just trip over. It
:25:27. > :25:31.is like going around a corner too fast in your cart and you get sent
:25:32. > :25:39.off the road. Big round of applause as all of the boys get out. That is
:25:40. > :25:45.the good news. For what it is worth, the time was roundabout and 59
:25:46. > :25:49.second marker thereabouts. They were still get a finish time, they were
:25:50. > :25:53.still get to go in the run tomorrow. All of these guys that have crashed,
:25:54. > :25:57.some of them 100 times, as you come up through the junior ranks, it is
:25:58. > :26:02.not something you want to do on race day, are obvious reasons, and you're
:26:03. > :26:08.just wearing some spandex. Things go wrong when you are kicked out, you
:26:09. > :26:14.get ice burns and bruises. Hopefully everyone is OK. They have their arm
:26:15. > :26:24.around the pilot saying, hey, it is OK. Massive pressure. They were
:26:25. > :26:28.kicked up going in. There are a couple of small places where there
:26:29. > :26:34.are bombs in the track and they go into 14. That kicks them up, the
:26:35. > :26:42.centrifugal force has whipped them over. They have to get NOK from the
:26:43. > :26:46.ice Meister, he has to look at the track to make sure everything is OK.
:26:47. > :26:50.Also, they need to make sure that everything is finished out of the
:26:51. > :26:55.sled, make sure that galoshes and shoes did not fall out, so they
:26:56. > :27:02.actually get a guaranteed finishing time. A bit like a blast, a
:27:03. > :27:05.plasterer goes in and he will have an ice bucket of sludge and they
:27:06. > :27:08.will slap it on the walls and you have got Amber, 630 kilos by five
:27:09. > :27:22.gees around the corner you're talking three tonnes of sled heading
:27:23. > :27:26.into the ice. That will also put off the warm up of everybody yet to
:27:27. > :27:32.come. GB are still in first place, no delight in other people's
:27:33. > :27:38.misfortune but it is in a roundabout way good fortune for Britain. I can
:27:39. > :27:43.only count three of them there but where is the fourth. Justin Kripps
:27:44. > :27:50.is right in the front. He got out of the side old school. There were four
:27:51. > :27:57.men up and walking. The coaches are just watching. It is heartbreaking
:27:58. > :28:01.for these guys because, as we were saying before, the GB chances of
:28:02. > :28:04.getting up towards the medals are still decent and their chances, they
:28:05. > :28:11.were carrying quite an advantage on GB up in eighth position but now
:28:12. > :28:16.they are five seconds behind so it is impossible for them in the next
:28:17. > :28:18.few runs, it is impossible that they will be near the top 20 or even the
:28:19. > :28:36.top 25. There is a Canadian supporter that
:28:37. > :28:40.will be glad and there is one of the Canadian crew who is just concerned
:28:41. > :28:45.about his team-mates. What these guys have on its band X. Somewhere
:28:46. > :29:01.burn suits but a lot of them do not. -- spandex. But a lot of them
:29:02. > :29:05.do not wear the Burton suits because they weigh more. That is Justin
:29:06. > :29:09.Kripps and he is not wearing it. It means that on race day if your
:29:10. > :29:13.shoulder hits the ice it will burn just like on concrete. You do not
:29:14. > :29:20.want to be touching your shoulder on fast moving ice at that speed. They
:29:21. > :29:23.all tucked in. They have little handles where they can pull
:29:24. > :29:32.themselves right in. Their big biceps help to make them as small as
:29:33. > :29:38.possible. That is one of the GB one crew there, Bruce Tasker, they are
:29:39. > :29:41.just ahead of the Swiss. They know all about crashing. They crashed out
:29:42. > :29:42.of the two-man in Vancouver when they were in the bronze medal
:29:43. > :29:56.position. This man is just having a look at
:29:57. > :30:00.the track. GB one are currently in the lead. Switzerland one are in
:30:01. > :30:08.second place with Canada to in third. Great Britain have already
:30:09. > :30:14.moved up a place. That is John Jackson, the pilot, the main man who
:30:15. > :30:22.drives the sledge down. Nobody would want a situation where they start
:30:23. > :30:26.leapfrogging athletes because of a crash. They are looking at the track
:30:27. > :30:33.now and there is pressure to get it moving as quickly as possible but he
:30:34. > :30:42.has to deal with a few big chunks. Is there any more news for us? I am
:30:43. > :30:48.standing here with Amy and we are just going over the extraordinary
:30:49. > :30:51.situation. That crash was a huge intake of air and shock from around
:30:52. > :30:56.the zone here. It was not pleasant to watch it at all. I really hate
:30:57. > :31:03.washing -- that watching bobsleigh crashes. It looks as though he came
:31:04. > :31:07.onto the corner super early and he looked as though he entered find
:31:08. > :31:10.that as the camera twisted into the entrance of corner 14th he just
:31:11. > :31:14.caught the failure it and so basically the runners of the
:31:15. > :31:17.bobsleigh did not manage to get onto the corner and basically slid off
:31:18. > :31:20.and you can see they slid around on their side and you are just praying
:31:21. > :31:24.that they all come out OK because the pressure they would have been
:31:25. > :31:29.going with that speed at that part of the track, I was really quite
:31:30. > :31:33.surprised how it happened. The whole track fell silent. We have been
:31:34. > :31:38.clapping and walking up the finish line and you are thankful that they
:31:39. > :31:41.are all OK. I suppose in a bobsleigh there is a degree of protection
:31:42. > :31:45.because they have safety helmets and the side of the Bob goes up around
:31:46. > :31:49.you but they are still going at 80 miles an hour. They are still going
:31:50. > :31:51.very fast and those bobsleigh is a degree of protection because they
:31:52. > :31:55.have safety helmets and the side of the Bob goes up around you but they
:31:56. > :32:01.are still going at 80 miles an hour. They are still going very fast and
:32:02. > :32:09.those bobsleighs get really bad friction ice burns. A lot of them
:32:10. > :32:12.where a special material best that says their skin a little bit but you
:32:13. > :32:15.can see that as they are slowing down it is actually the skin and the
:32:16. > :32:19.shoulders of the guys, especially the brakeman at the end whose head
:32:20. > :32:23.hit. They look all right. We counted them all up. I was a little worried
:32:24. > :32:28.that the brakeman had not made it out. They sat down and the shock
:32:29. > :32:31.gets you first bore everyone is holding their breath making sure
:32:32. > :32:35.they are OK and the main thing is that they are OK. We have not had
:32:36. > :32:40.many crashes on this track during training so it has been quite a
:32:41. > :32:44.surprise for that to happen. It has a reputation of being a relatively
:32:45. > :32:47.straightforward track. Yes, everybody has said it is reasonably
:32:48. > :32:52.easy to get down it is just tricky to find the extra speed. Something
:32:53. > :32:57.like that shows you that if you are literally a few inches too early
:32:58. > :33:01.into a corner then that is what can happen. OK, it looks as though the
:33:02. > :33:10.competition is back on and we go back to the commentators for Germany
:33:11. > :33:18.to. -- Germany two. It certainly is. After that terrible crash Germany
:33:19. > :33:21.two have to follow that. It is Great Britain won in the lead. They are in
:33:22. > :33:32.second place at the moment. It is a really solid start for the
:33:33. > :33:39.Germans. It is very easy to get put off when your start is delayed. They
:33:40. > :33:45.are slower than their first run. A slight tap there. That is not great.
:33:46. > :33:52.We will see if they lose time here down the bottom. The ice is a little
:33:53. > :33:58.bit damaged here. It was out of 14. This is corner ten. Now 11. This is
:33:59. > :34:02.a very steep part of the track and where the crash happened. How bad is
:34:03. > :34:06.the track here? They are still in the lead. That was sloppy. I think
:34:07. > :34:17.they will go behind. They are going to lose it. And they have. Great
:34:18. > :34:25.Britain are in first place. That is good. Very good.
:34:26. > :34:33.55.43. That is three tenths of a second slower than the first one. GB
:34:34. > :34:38.pretty much matched their first run and those who went before GB a lot
:34:39. > :34:43.of them went as much as half a second quicker. The ice has
:34:44. > :34:48.definitely got worse now. Not necessarily because of the crash but
:34:49. > :34:53.it will not help. You can see where it couched out a big chunk there.
:34:54. > :35:04.That was sloppy piloting there. Took a tap on the right-hand side. GB
:35:05. > :35:12.still lead. Each and every crew has time advantage from first run. John
:35:13. > :35:16.Jackson, Bruce Tasker, Joel Fearon and Stuart Benson will be absolutely
:35:17. > :35:29.delirious. The Russian Federation second team. They are a danger. They
:35:30. > :35:31.are not .15 of the second ahead of GB one which is a big chunk of time,
:35:32. > :35:39.believe me. It is a good time. It is slower than
:35:40. > :35:57.Britain's team. Just six hundredths in it. Russia
:35:58. > :36:03.are losing time to Great Britain. A bit of a tap out of five. A poor
:36:04. > :36:07.place to take a touch. Any time you take it up the hill there is no
:36:08. > :36:15.gravity to help. It is all even into nine. Let us keep an eye on this,
:36:16. > :36:19.they are waving a lot. They are equal with Great Britain and the
:36:20. > :36:25.moment. I would normally expect them to pull ahead here. It has gone
:36:26. > :36:34.green again. Will the damage to track so the mark? There is 100th of
:36:35. > :36:40.a second in it. Look at that. 0.01 of a second ahead but there are two
:36:41. > :36:49.runs to come tomorrow. That could not be closer.
:36:50. > :37:00.That keeps the Russian crowd on their feet and very warm. 0.01 of a
:37:01. > :37:05.second. My goodness! What is that over what has been three kilometres
:37:06. > :37:09.of ice so far, we are talking probably about a centimetre, nothing
:37:10. > :37:16.at all. Game on with the Russians tomorrow. We only have five more
:37:17. > :37:21.crews to come now so GB are guaranteed to be in seventh
:37:22. > :37:25.position. There are two more runs to go. Look at the way the track has
:37:26. > :37:30.been absolutely hammered by the Canadian sled that crashed. That
:37:31. > :37:34.will be playing on the minds of these athletes, especially the
:37:35. > :37:37.pilots. That is Steven Holcomb, considered by many to be the best
:37:38. > :37:45.pilot in the world. He will be coming down in reverse order. He is
:37:46. > :37:53.in third position. The Latvians go now.
:37:54. > :38:07.They are one tenth ahead already. That is a colossal start which
:38:08. > :38:15.equals the American's start record. A lot of people would love to see
:38:16. > :38:19.this crew get a medal. Oskars Melbardis here never got to slide.
:38:20. > :38:31.They got to Vancouver but they did not get to the track. Here they are
:38:32. > :38:39.for years later. They are going very well at the moment. They are not .26
:38:40. > :38:46.the second ahead with one corner to go. This is a magnificent effort by
:38:47. > :38:58.Latvia. 0.29 in the lead. That is terrific. That was a really
:38:59. > :39:03.impressive run. They were a little bit slower than their first run.
:39:04. > :39:16.Oskars Melbardis has nailed one there. Oskars Melbardis won the test
:39:17. > :39:20.event here last year and a lot of people were hoping that he would do
:39:21. > :39:23.well but he has said he cannot do for good runs but his first one was
:39:24. > :39:34.not that great but that one was splendid, bottle. -- spot on. This
:39:35. > :39:48.is the German crew who are currently lying in second place. Next we have
:39:49. > :39:53.the Germany three team. Kevin Kuske is on the right-hand side. He is a
:39:54. > :40:00.man right in front of us. He has 14-macro Olympic gold medals in the
:40:01. > :40:14.two man and the four-man. Not a bad start. Right at the back this is a
:40:15. > :40:18.seriously powerful start group. The pilot is not that quick. He is a
:40:19. > :40:23.former luge ace who has turned to bobsleigh by does not have the size
:40:24. > :40:28.and the bulk of some of the others. That was a bit of a low line and now
:40:29. > :40:35.they are behind by 11 hundredths on the Latvians. That will be hard to
:40:36. > :40:39.reel back in. The speed is not as good as the Latvians. They are
:40:40. > :40:48.getting further behind. They avoided touching 40. -- 14 they could well
:40:49. > :40:55.go behind the Brits and the Russians here. They are in second place,
:40:56. > :41:02.just. 0.25 of a second behind Latvia. That is for Latvia. Germany
:41:03. > :41:13.will be absolutely disgusted with that. Look at that! 55.42 is much
:41:14. > :41:19.lower. Look at his face, former Olympic champion, I bet he will be
:41:20. > :41:25.disgusted with that. Let's have a look. The Germans, some of these
:41:26. > :41:30.great men, just getting a little bit older, look at the handle sticking
:41:31. > :41:40.out for a while, that is worth a few hundredths of a second. All of that
:41:41. > :41:43.drag, it might not be high speeds, but it all adds up. We're down to
:41:44. > :41:49.the last three, the last three that count. That is not to put any thing
:41:50. > :41:55.on the Koreans or the Australians are the Romanians, but for the time
:41:56. > :42:00.being, the US a went down the first time, they were beneath 55. Steven
:42:01. > :42:22.Holcomb and company. Here the Olympic champion, 17
:42:23. > :42:27.hundredths up, the man in charge. Not quite as good as the Latvians.
:42:28. > :42:40.For hundredths of a second. A little bit of a touch out of five
:42:41. > :42:47.out into six and the gap will be narrowing because of that. It has
:42:48. > :42:57.evened. It has gone level. Latvia are level with the USA at the
:42:58. > :43:04.moment. United States up the hill to 15. It is the high line to 15, but
:43:05. > :43:10.not working. Good speed, but not good enough to put them back in.
:43:11. > :43:24.0.13 behind. Latvia one still in the lead.
:43:25. > :43:33.Steven Holcomb, he looks to the sky, he will not be pleased with that.
:43:34. > :43:36.The Latvians, they are now guaranteed to go into the bronze
:43:37. > :43:44.medal position overnight. Steven Holcomb I have his work cut out for
:43:45. > :43:47.him tomorrow. -- will have. Not quite the top end speed he would
:43:48. > :43:57.have wanted, is that because of the ice? It was because of a slightly
:43:58. > :44:00.sloppy exit out of five up the hill. The last of the top 20, then we go
:44:01. > :44:17.from 21 to 29. A real chance for Germany to come
:44:18. > :44:22.back on the map as far as bobsleigh is concerned.
:44:23. > :44:35.Will this be a good start? 11 hundredths up on the Latvians. They
:44:36. > :45:01.had to into two hundredths, and they lost a bit already.
:45:02. > :45:13.Cyril .06 behind. -- 0.6 behind, they have got to pull something out
:45:14. > :45:36.of the bag. That was a big tap before 16. Guaranteed to be in a
:45:37. > :45:42.medal position overnight with Zubkov still to come. The Russian crew are
:45:43. > :45:52.still to go, and they just look magnificent.
:45:53. > :46:02.Moved into 17 a little bit early, twisting the sled.
:46:03. > :46:10.The crowd, inevitably cheering for Zubkov. It has been 50 years since
:46:11. > :46:16.the Germans didn't win any medals and bobsleigh. It has been 50 years
:46:17. > :46:20.since Britain won the gold medal, so a bit of destiny. You get the
:46:21. > :46:30.feeling that something special is going to happen. Zubkov and his
:46:31. > :46:37.team, these men are desperate to win a gold medal for Russia. A slightly
:46:38. > :46:49.sloppy load from Zubkov, but he managed to get in. A good stride
:46:50. > :46:58.from Alexander Zubkov so far. That so far means for one and a quarter
:46:59. > :47:05.length of the track. That could cost, we can look at the next, only
:47:06. > :47:08.19 hundredths up. Even the Russians are falteringly. Did have to go
:47:09. > :47:19.through this bottom, damaged section of the track. Hitting the left-hand
:47:20. > :47:25.side. What about the time? Going a bit sideways, 0.1 of a second. One
:47:26. > :47:29.tenth of a second and at 136.2, they lose more time and are still in the
:47:30. > :47:35.lead overnight will stop for hundredths up, and it is game on,
:47:36. > :47:39.the Latvians, and they pull up into silver medal position behind the
:47:40. > :47:49.Russians by only four hundredths of a second. We are shouting and
:47:50. > :47:53.screaming about Russia, but it is the Latvians that are deserving of
:47:54. > :47:58.the applause at the moment, and the Team GB crew, tends to seven, 34
:47:59. > :48:04.hundredths behind the leaders, but let us think about it bronze medal
:48:05. > :48:09.at the moment. They are 18 hundredths, no, 16 hundredths, that
:48:10. > :48:15.is not a lot at all! I cannot do maths! That is great news for Great
:48:16. > :48:23.Britain. Very good indeed. Russia still have the lead, but that lead
:48:24. > :48:32.has been reduced to 0.04. For hundredths of a second. -- four
:48:33. > :48:36.hundredths. This is where we will find out how Zubkov is tomorrow, he
:48:37. > :48:47.would be in gold medal position tonight. Back to Macs aren't, he is
:48:48. > :49:08.under massive pressure to try and get some kind of medal for Germany.
:49:09. > :49:12.-- Max Arndt. There is Zubkov, just taking off his gloves. Over 40 years
:49:13. > :49:18.old now. He has actually got dragged back in by Alexander Putin to
:49:19. > :49:22.drive. That was in 2011, when he said, I have had enough, and
:49:23. > :49:27.Vladimir Putin went to him and said, please, we need you. We have got an
:49:28. > :49:33.Olympic Games, and he did it. Even I read the had yet with his team-mate.
:49:34. > :49:39.-- he even buried the hatchet with his team-mates. Tomorrow, the
:49:40. > :49:44.results will be the aggregate of all four runs added up together, and the
:49:45. > :50:00.lowest time will be the winner, as we watch the Koreans about to go.
:50:01. > :50:18.They have got a mountain to climb in terms of getting towards the medals.
:50:19. > :50:27.A good, solid start, but they are only 1.6 seconds down.
:50:28. > :50:36.Steering comfortably, a little bit high on that. You can just see as
:50:37. > :50:43.they come around the bend. That was the corner of the Canadians
:50:44. > :50:53.scratched. This is a really good slide by the Koreans. That was good,
:50:54. > :51:02.my goodness. They have pulled themselves up into 20th position.
:51:03. > :51:07.The icy conditions are getting worse as these racers tear it up. Let's
:51:08. > :51:12.have a look at the start again. A little bit of a fumble, he could
:51:13. > :51:16.have been slicker with that. He put his feet on the seat for a second,
:51:17. > :51:19.then he pauses before he goes between the steering system. The
:51:20. > :51:23.worst thing that you can do, is if you try to do it in one movement and
:51:24. > :51:27.get it wrong, your feet get caught in the bungee cords that hold the
:51:28. > :51:32.steering into position and you can get spun around and be stuck on your
:51:33. > :51:39.race spikes and get into all kinds of trouble and flip out at turn
:51:40. > :51:43.number one. Alexander Zubkov, the leader in the overnight positions.
:51:44. > :51:50.The Australians get ready to go here. This is Heath Spence for
:51:51. > :52:09.Australia. In they get. Not bad. The slower
:52:10. > :52:13.start we have seen so far in this second run, they have just not done
:52:14. > :52:16.as many starts as some of the other really big cruise. The Germans have
:52:17. > :52:23.done it ten 's of thousands of times. Not an easy thing to do. It
:52:24. > :52:26.is an art form. Imagine 417 stone men's printing down your first for
:52:27. > :52:28.balcony and leading into your bathtub, it is not an easy thing to
:52:29. > :52:34.do! -- men's printing. They are slipping further behind the
:52:35. > :52:47.Russians. On the right-hand side, can they
:52:48. > :53:08.hold it together? Some Australian fans enjoying that.
:53:09. > :53:17.One of the best ever results for Australia. If -- a view more to
:53:18. > :53:33.come. -- a few more to come. Colin Bryce explaining that none of
:53:34. > :53:37.the remaining four man bobsleigh teams will make an impact on the
:53:38. > :53:44.leaderboard. Russia narrowly in front, but the track was damaged by
:53:45. > :53:50.the crash from Canada. GB one came down before that, they have moved up
:53:51. > :53:54.into seventh place. GB two are in 18th. Afterwards, Matthew Pitts and
:53:55. > :54:00.spoke to both crews starting with GB or one. How do you assess the runs
:54:01. > :54:04.this evening? I didn't think the first run was too
:54:05. > :54:10.bad, nothing major, the second run was a little bit better, but almost
:54:11. > :54:14.identical in time. The problem is the track, it degrades quite clear,
:54:15. > :54:18.so we were off 12th in the first run, so you could see the track
:54:19. > :54:24.slowing down by them, but tomorrow, we will be of seven, so we will see.
:54:25. > :54:28.Stewart, we saw you hanging out on the podium after a few runs,
:54:29. > :54:34.obviously passed that crashed, that must have been a nice feeling? Never
:54:35. > :54:38.a nice experience to see somebody crashed, but the longer you are on
:54:39. > :54:42.the podium, we were kind of expecting it, so we're hoping that
:54:43. > :54:47.we can increase the position we have got and take it in tomorrow and get
:54:48. > :54:51.a better race. Joel, you are unbelievably quick across the
:54:52. > :54:57.ground, how was the start for you guys? It was OK, it's dropped off a
:54:58. > :55:01.bit, we have to work on more for tomorrow, but we were in the mix,
:55:02. > :55:07.that is the plan, to give Jack all the best we can at the start, and
:55:08. > :55:11.then he can do the best for us, and we're not too worried. Has this been
:55:12. > :55:17.a long wait for you at the Olympics, sitting around waiting to get going?
:55:18. > :55:23.Yes, unusual to have such a late night race, but we managed to keep
:55:24. > :55:27.calm in a tense day, and get ready for today. John, just a word about
:55:28. > :55:39.the crash, I will try and not ask a clumsy question about it, this is a
:55:40. > :55:43.dangerous sport. Yes, there was the crashing thank you, I said, I know
:55:44. > :55:47.how you are feeling, come back strong, that is what we did, we came
:55:48. > :55:52.out, we pushed and we raced down on the second day and got into the top
:55:53. > :55:56.20, and that is what those guys need to do, regroup tonight and just come
:55:57. > :56:01.back. I really, really feel for them, but we are all good friends,
:56:02. > :56:07.and nobody likes to see a crash, especially when it is your mates the
:56:08. > :56:19.sled. Good luck for tomorrow, we will see you there. You said after
:56:20. > :56:23.your first one in the two man Bob you would really try and give it
:56:24. > :56:33.something in this one. There were a few slides and technicalities that
:56:34. > :56:38.didn't help the top speed. The pushing side of life was a very good
:56:39. > :56:45.point. This is a brand-new team and we are mixing it up with the top ten
:56:46. > :56:49.in the world on the starts. That is in our -- accolade from your driver
:56:50. > :56:52.to say the pushing was good. Andy has come into the crew and really
:56:53. > :56:58.stepped it up at the mark and performed with the best in the
:56:59. > :57:01.world. How was the experience? It was fantastic. It was essentially
:57:02. > :57:08.like any other race but when you get down to the bottom here the
:57:09. > :57:11.experience really comes over you. Just enjoying competing with a few
:57:12. > :57:16.points to work on tomorrow but it is all very positive. We started well
:57:17. > :57:20.and we are a new crew with only six pushes together so to be mixing with
:57:21. > :57:25.the top in the world is fantastic. Andrew, you have obviously come into
:57:26. > :57:29.this team, how does it feel? It is never nice to replace an injured
:57:30. > :57:34.athlete. A shout out to Craig to get well soon but the fact I am here is
:57:35. > :57:40.an amazing thing and I am here to push my best, you know's what is the
:57:41. > :57:44.aim for tomorrow on the next run, presumably to get a place in the top
:57:45. > :57:51.20? We want to get the start time down and clean the runs up. The
:57:52. > :57:55.people around us are people... We started 18th as our rank in the
:57:56. > :57:58.world so that is where we are fighting in and around. Hopefully we

:00:07. > :00:13.The American's work was so sharp for so long in this tournament and it is
