:00:43. > :00:54.The simple beauty of some up on the waters of the Scottish loch. And

:00:55. > :00:59.when winter turns water to frosted glass... Beauty comes with a

:01:00. > :01:13.soundtrack of silence. Born of the silence, is ice, the

:01:14. > :01:21.sport, a harsh broken by the rumble of granite. Like a child of the

:01:22. > :01:33.world the warring sport was heard and then slid away. Half a century

:01:34. > :01:38.in the Olympic wilderness... But it returned with its soundtrack of

:01:39. > :01:46.silence, the soft ground of granite, the sweeping frenzy of the

:01:47. > :01:51.slaves to the stone and the crack of precision. Curling, the sport of

:01:52. > :02:10.silence beautifully broken. Welcome back. It is curling day as

:02:11. > :02:13.you can imagine from that video. The men and women have been in action

:02:14. > :02:18.and both have medal hopes. It is getting busier in the park and this

:02:19. > :02:22.seems to be a Russian gymnastics team. The men started with a victory

:02:23. > :02:25.against Russia but there was disappointment for Eve Muirhead and

:02:26. > :02:29.their team as they lost to the Swedish team who are main rival for

:02:30. > :02:35.a medal. The men are back in action at 3pm and we will be live for that.

:02:36. > :02:41.That is not all that is coming up in the next three hours.

:02:42. > :02:48.We have got the ice hockey. The reigning world 's champions, the US,

:02:49. > :02:53.take on Switzerland. There is drama in the mountains with the men's

:02:54. > :02:57.moguls qualifying. We are back in the speed skating arena perhaps for

:02:58. > :03:06.more Dutch glory, this time in the 500 metres. We have got GB the

:03:07. > :03:12.Sweden again, it is live curling, this time it is the men.

:03:13. > :03:15.Eve Muirhead and her team lost. One of their big rivals if they get to

:03:16. > :03:40.the final stages will be Canada and we can catch up with that match now.

:03:41. > :04:13.The line is good. It is a beautiful shot. Very well done. Perfect.

:04:14. > :04:24.The first stone for the skip of team China. Looking to score here in end

:04:25. > :04:37.three. She is encouraging them here. It is very light. It is not close.

:04:38. > :04:45.Has the momentum changed in this end. It was looking like assured use

:04:46. > :04:50.a moment ago. The danger here for Jones is that if she does come in at

:04:51. > :04:57.eight and does not leave it buried she will leave a double for Wang

:04:58. > :05:18.Forum deuce. Absolutely. She needs to cover the corner.

:05:19. > :05:33.This also is not how very. Can they carry it into the eight foot. , no.

:05:34. > :05:35.The line is good. They are forcing her out to a new path so she can go

:05:36. > :05:47.wider to get a single. Would you say most men teams would

:05:48. > :06:08.play that double? I think so. They are going for a single point

:06:09. > :06:16.here on end three. She was short on her last draw. They had to go for a

:06:17. > :06:27.line here a little. They lost that Stone, did not sweep it for most of

:06:28. > :06:35.the way down. It is a steal. An end that had so much promise for team

:06:36. > :06:45.China falls apart to late. Liu Yin is a bronze medallist from

:06:46. > :06:51.Vancouver. Part of a fully funded professional curling rink. Yes, many

:06:52. > :06:58.people have had that discussion, how has the rest of the world of curling

:06:59. > :07:04.improves so much and it is because many countries have gone to making a

:07:05. > :07:07.team or to their professional team, representative of their country for

:07:08. > :07:15.several years where they travel and trade full-time. It is their job to

:07:16. > :07:28.curl and they do it for about ten months a year.

:07:29. > :07:39.It is go time here for Wang Bingyu. The problem for her is that she

:07:40. > :07:43.cannot get rid of that stone. The back one can go, the one on the

:07:44. > :07:50.T-line but what does she need to do? She is going to have two plates

:07:51. > :07:55.quietly. She just wants to move her red stone into this position, tried

:07:56. > :08:02.to tap, freeze or even move the yellow stone back perhaps. Keep her

:08:03. > :08:22.shooter in line. It is a tricky shot.

:08:23. > :08:29.A big shot if you want to steal here. She has to wait for the line.

:08:30. > :08:43.She has thrown that extra weight and now she has to wait for it to curl

:08:44. > :08:45.across the centre line. A chance out of life three for Jones. She has hit

:08:46. > :09:04.the one on the centre line first. I think the key here for Jennifer

:09:05. > :09:06.Jones is to not overthrow it. You need to have solid weight that there

:09:07. > :09:22.is no need to really fire down there. Write down the centre line

:09:23. > :09:27.goes. Nice. A great shot. Perfect. Well done. Huge trouble now for

:09:28. > :09:30.China. Jennifer through that very well, very straight and did not try

:09:31. > :09:37.to overthrow it, she was very accurate. Where now is the damage

:09:38. > :09:44.limiting placement for China? Right now you are looking at three, with

:09:45. > :09:48.Canada having the last rock in my opinion all she can do is make a

:09:49. > :09:58.double and give up too, day down for into the break. Another strong end

:09:59. > :10:10.for team Canada. This is going to jam I think. A draw for three for

:10:11. > :10:13.Canada. It is a great start. These games are normally a lot closer than

:10:14. > :10:18.this. These teams have played 13 times in the last little bit and

:10:19. > :10:27.Jennifer Jones has the edge but it is seven and six only. Jennifer

:10:28. > :10:31.Jones in her routine. She has had great control of the draw weight so

:10:32. > :10:41.far. No reason to think she will not put this right on the button.

:10:42. > :10:48.The girls are working on this one. It needs a full 12 foot to get that

:10:49. > :10:56.third point. I like the way they are carrying it. Write to the button.

:10:57. > :10:58.What a start. What a first half of this game for Jennifer Jones 's team

:10:59. > :11:11.Canada. Kaitlyn Lawes is trying to come

:11:12. > :11:17.around this corner and get a first or second shot. I am not sure if

:11:18. > :11:23.Canada is lying two at the moment because of that line that rolled

:11:24. > :11:25.into the corner. They need to keep this in front of the T-line. It just

:11:26. > :11:55.stops in time. Wang Bingyu is looking for any sort

:11:56. > :11:59.of spark here to get back in this. She has struggled with draw weight

:12:00. > :12:03.and she is looking for a big one right now. Her rocks are curling a

:12:04. > :12:08.lot more than Jennifer Jones. She is not getting good read on the ice.

:12:09. > :12:18.There is a good example of that here. Got a redirection. But that

:12:19. > :12:33.curled a good foot more than Kaitlyn Lawes drop-dead. -- drop did.

:12:34. > :12:37.Is that all release? A little bit of release and how she throws the

:12:38. > :13:05.stone. Completely into the 8-foot circle.

:13:06. > :13:17.It is over curling. They may have moved it far enough. They did. They

:13:18. > :13:22.got second shot. It is perfect. This is where you thank your sweepers.

:13:23. > :13:26.This is where all the hard-working the off-season pays off, fitness is

:13:27. > :13:43.a key component of the lead curling teams these days.

:13:44. > :13:50.Trying to play some sort of tap here. They want to put some pressure

:13:51. > :13:55.on Canada. Things are just not come together for team China today. This

:13:56. > :14:04.will be a draw for three. It appears. Look at the weight she had

:14:05. > :14:09.here, that is easily to the back four and nowhere near close to what

:14:10. > :14:14.she was hoping for. Just not a day. No, they are just not playing like

:14:15. > :14:18.they can. But it is a long Round Robin and she will make some noise.

:14:19. > :14:27.Here is Jennifer Jones with a draw for three. She had three in the

:14:28. > :14:41.fifth and it looks a lot like three in the seventh. This is good all day

:14:42. > :14:53.long. Well done. Good end. They are just not letting Liu Yin take a

:14:54. > :15:03.look. Make sure she confirms three. There is the handshake. This one is

:15:04. > :15:07.over. It came late but there is the handshake. The Canadian in

:15:08. > :15:25.contingent says good job Jennifer, good job, team Canada. I have played

:15:26. > :15:29.against a few sweepers. I would be the one who does the thing with the

:15:30. > :15:41.brush at the end. I would take the glory. Thank you for that. It is

:15:42. > :15:48.going to be a big match on Wednesday as Eve Muirhead and her team play

:15:49. > :16:01.against Canada. It is important to have a coach who knows all about

:16:02. > :16:05.winning Olympic gold. One last delivery for Olympic gold. It is on

:16:06. > :16:27.its way. She has done it! It is Olympic gold

:16:28. > :16:33.for Great Britain. Curling is a great social sport. The members in

:16:34. > :16:37.my club, the youngest is about 14 and the oldest is in their 80s and

:16:38. > :16:43.everybody is playing reach other so you can have Olympic champions

:16:44. > :16:49.playing with normal curlers in one team. At school I played hockey and

:16:50. > :16:59.badminton and it was when I left school I wanted to do something

:17:00. > :17:08.different. My brother curled quite a bit and he said I should give it a

:17:09. > :17:14.go. The first time I did it I heated it, I kept falling, but thankfully

:17:15. > :17:18.he persuaded me to come back. It was not an Olympic medal sport when I

:17:19. > :17:26.started playing so I could not say that was my dream, I was just

:17:27. > :17:30.playing it for fun. As curling progressed and became an Olympic

:17:31. > :17:36.medal spot I thought, this is what I want to do. The demands on your time

:17:37. > :17:43.became greater and greater. We never got to see you. By that stage I had

:17:44. > :17:50.stopped working and the children were young, so it was juggling with

:17:51. > :17:53.children and training, so throughout the journey it changed as to the

:17:54. > :17:58.amount of training you had to do and it changed my lifestyle accordingly.

:17:59. > :18:02.Before I went away I always had to make sure everything with the

:18:03. > :18:09.children was left in an order that they know what -- they knew what was

:18:10. > :18:16.happening but once you are away your focus is on performing. We knew if

:18:17. > :18:21.we went and played well we could absolutely beat any team that was

:18:22. > :18:27.there. I have never actually watched the whole final the hallway

:18:28. > :18:36.through. Switzerland were quite cagey through the final. We had that

:18:37. > :18:41.last stone advantage and I thought, that is going to be down to me, so

:18:42. > :18:53.if I do not make it, the team will probably never speak to me again.

:18:54. > :18:57.Good to see her smiling. We were not aware of what was happening back

:18:58. > :19:04.home. It was only after the final that we understood what was

:19:05. > :19:17.happening. This is it, the stone for glory is on its way. She has done

:19:18. > :19:36.it! I thought, what have we done? The media were everywhere. I cried.

:19:37. > :19:45.A fantastic experience. If you have been inspired by that,

:19:46. > :19:51.although the website. -- follow the link on the website. There are lots

:19:52. > :20:00.of ways to watch the Winter Olympics across the BBC.

:20:01. > :20:08.What the excitement of the Winter Olympics with BBC Sport. We are

:20:09. > :20:14.showing every sport live with up to six streams of live sport so you are

:20:15. > :20:21.in full control of the action from the Games. Check out our live

:20:22. > :20:28.updates and catch up on any action you have missed on BBC iPlayer so

:20:29. > :20:39.you can share all the drama wherever you are.

:20:40. > :20:49.Do not be inspired by that, abseiling up the cauldron, Alec to

:20:50. > :20:58.bit of maintenance going on. We are going to a sloppy. I was in the gym

:20:59. > :21:11.this morning and next to me was an Olympic champion at a sloppy. -- ice

:21:12. > :21:20.hockey. The USA are back in action, the world champions. Here is your

:21:21. > :21:33.guide to Olympic ice hockey. Ice hockey is one of the fastest team

:21:34. > :21:37.sports in the world. The puc edge travelling at high speed. The aim of

:21:38. > :21:45.the game is the score more goals than the opposition. Matches consist

:21:46. > :21:52.of three 20 minute periods with two 20 minute breaks in between and dark

:21:53. > :22:01.with a face off in the centre of BA -- the ice. Penalties can be given

:22:02. > :22:08.and players have to serve time in the penalty box. If a team has a

:22:09. > :22:12.player sent off, they are said to be playing short-handed well be

:22:13. > :22:17.opposing team is on powerplay. This is the best opportunity for a team

:22:18. > :22:25.to score. There are couple of ice hockey

:22:26. > :22:42.venues, the Bolshoi which is the main one, and one of -- over there.

:22:43. > :22:52.Before that, let us remind ourselves of the famous USA victory.

:22:53. > :22:58.1980, the Olympic flame, Lake Placid in the mountains and onto this

:22:59. > :23:04.frozen corner of upstate New York stepped this albeit. The Soviet

:23:05. > :23:13.Union has just invaded Afghanistan, and is coming to conquer sport on

:23:14. > :23:22.American soil. The Soviet Union are ice hockey champions of the past

:23:23. > :23:30.four Olympics. USA, on a ring the Olympic chord of amateurism, select

:23:31. > :23:35.none of their professionals, instead selecting college boys with an

:23:36. > :23:55.average age of 21. Under the guidance of the coach of the

:23:56. > :24:07.Minnesota Goafers. What is sensation!

:24:08. > :24:13.The United States have beaten the Soviet Union. 28 years I have been

:24:14. > :24:24.reporting on ice hockey and I have never seen scenes like this. A

:24:25. > :24:37.sensation. Throwing their sticks in the air. There is still a game to

:24:38. > :24:53.win against Finland. The United States have made it 4-2! Tell the

:24:54. > :25:20.team how much I love them and we are proud of you. Celebrate! The Phil --

:25:21. > :25:28.White House treatment. It was a remarkable big silly and it

:25:29. > :25:33.was -- a remarkable victory and I always think it was the final but it

:25:34. > :25:52.was the semifinal. This is a big moment for the

:25:53. > :26:03.Americans in this campaign. For the Swiss this is a measuring marker,

:26:04. > :26:11.they have struggled against the USA. How much work will she get? Not as

:26:12. > :26:19.much as the number 41 for Switzerland who was outstanding

:26:20. > :26:34.despite stopping 64 of the six nine shots -- 69 shots in the previous

:26:35. > :26:37.game. The Swiss are in white and will go from left to right on the

:26:38. > :27:08.screen. The Swiss can get a bit of time and

:27:09. > :28:01.space. The Americans still have their tired

:28:02. > :29:40.defenders out there. Looking for the wrap around

:29:41. > :29:45.opportunity. If we look at Monique Lamoureux, that is a couple of

:29:46. > :29:54.times, we can see on the replay, it was a great opportunity, goes across

:29:55. > :30:09.the face of goal and they just sort of ran out of the open side.

:30:10. > :30:19.Possession for the Americans. That will be 50/50 on the ball.

:30:20. > :30:25.The US will try and send it in again. Can the Swiss play with the

:30:26. > :30:30.kind of attacking ambition that they showed. We are going to get a

:30:31. > :30:34.penalty here and it is an early call for book. It is goalless and we are

:30:35. > :30:40.going to see some power play and Carpenter will head for the box. She

:30:41. > :30:51.has just too much fresher -- pressure. And down goes Cannes

:30:52. > :30:56.three. The USA will feel a bit aggrieved particularly if the Swiss

:30:57. > :31:01.can make this count. It was a harsh call. I do not know if I could see

:31:02. > :31:07.what the referee saw. We will see a power play for the Swiss. They have

:31:08. > :31:23.one player advantage for the next two minutes.

:31:24. > :31:33.Frautschi for Switzerland. A good outlet pass.

:31:34. > :31:36.Held on the boards, Switzerland regained possession. They have

:31:37. > :31:54.behind the back of the net. Stephanie Martin is in front. The

:31:55. > :31:58.encouraging it for the Swiss power play and in this game is their pace

:31:59. > :32:03.and build-up towards getting a shot. There was a save their but it was a

:32:04. > :32:07.good shot and there is presence in front but they do not rush to take

:32:08. > :32:08.that shot. They have been able to move it around and get everybody

:32:09. > :32:15.involved. Cleared away by the Americans. Good

:32:16. > :32:33.stick work and good footwork. Cannes three is experienced, she is

:32:34. > :32:47.one of the players that played in Turin. -- Bullo.

:32:48. > :32:50.This is dangerous. They are under pressure. She is still under

:32:51. > :33:02.pressure. Really good skating. The attack ends up getting in the

:33:03. > :33:15.way, blacking -- blocking the shot and putting on the pressure.

:33:16. > :33:20.Jocelyne Lamoureux struggled in the first game. She won that but she won

:33:21. > :33:28.it too well. It meant that they had to go back.

:33:29. > :33:31.The twins here we will refer to some toes by their first names because it

:33:32. > :33:49.makes it a bit easier. That was given away by the Swiss in

:33:50. > :34:00.their own zone. This is a real chance. Money kids there. The

:34:01. > :34:13.Americans score. -- Monique is bad. The threat from the Lamoureux twins

:34:14. > :34:21.paid off. The Swiss Open the door for the Americans to step through

:34:22. > :34:24.and they stepped right through. It was Cannes to Lamoureux who is the

:34:25. > :34:43.one who will taste first blood in this match. -- Monique Lamoureux. It

:34:44. > :34:45.is the first goal of the tournament for Monique Lamoureux. She has

:34:46. > :34:51.piercing blue eyes. She pierced that goal as well!

:34:52. > :34:58.I wonder if that will change how the Swiss approach the game. The Swiss

:34:59. > :35:05.had already conceded in the first minute and our half in the opening

:35:06. > :35:12.games. This is a new identity of the game with the Americans scoring

:35:13. > :35:26.first. That is a good save on a deflected opportunity.

:35:27. > :35:41.It is going to go in! Deflected play. Amanda Kessel found the net. A

:35:42. > :35:47.high five to the Americans and just like that they take to goalie. This

:35:48. > :35:54.list at the moment look like statues. They are just watching. It

:35:55. > :36:02.is Decker who got the touch and it rolled across the line. They made

:36:03. > :36:07.sure that Al -- emblem just trickled across the paint and it did so for

:36:08. > :36:17.the gold. It just inched across and rolls to freedom for the Americans.

:36:18. > :36:23.A horrid gold concede. The official stats gave that to Amanda Kessel but

:36:24. > :36:30.I do not think that is right from the replays that we have just seen.

:36:31. > :36:44.33 Americans! Amanda Kessel scores and the Swiss are in a mess. Amanda

:36:45. > :36:49.Kessel's first and the US now lead by three goals to them and this game

:36:50. > :37:02.has a big hole knocked right in it. This is unbelievable. She just

:37:03. > :37:08.buried that. Amanda Kessel will find a way easily from there. Carpenter

:37:09. > :37:21.bags one, stolen the other way. We are going to see some speed going

:37:22. > :37:39.back the other way. That is a great save, did so well to stay there.

:37:40. > :38:06.The Swiss defender gets some help from Hilary Knight. She is looking

:38:07. > :38:23.for the wraparound chance. It is still alive. Hilary Knight

:38:24. > :38:26.makes it four. The Swiss look like they had stopped because they

:38:27. > :38:30.thought the penalty was going to be called but Hilary Knight was

:38:31. > :38:35.stiffening up at the back of the net and her shot, her second of the

:38:36. > :38:48.tournament, and America are firmly in control. Very surprising but

:38:49. > :38:52.explosive. She ends up being taken down but Hilary Knight just stayed

:38:53. > :38:56.with the play when the Swiss defenders were anticipating that

:38:57. > :39:02.they may have been able to touch it. Shelley could not see it. She was

:39:03. > :39:06.being screened in front but Hilary Knight just got there first and it

:39:07. > :39:13.hit off the post and it went in. It is really easy for the Americans

:39:14. > :39:16.now. Hilary Knight is a superstar. I think she may be up there with the

:39:17. > :39:23.players of the tournament at the end of this one.

:39:24. > :39:29.The period ends cannot get fast enough -- come fast enough for the

:39:30. > :39:47.Swiss time who need to get a grip on this game.

:39:48. > :39:56.The official announcement there gives an assist to Julie Chu.

:39:57. > :40:03.Possession goes the other way though. The Swiss will now dumping

:40:04. > :40:12.Sarah Forster. She is uncompromising.

:40:13. > :40:21.A hard-hit comes the other way and the penalty is coming which is the

:40:22. > :40:24.last thing you need. As she makes her way off the ice no doubt there

:40:25. > :40:30.will be a massive disappointment from the Swiss team. Hanging tough

:40:31. > :40:34.for the first half of this period and is now the slamming play in on

:40:35. > :40:39.the American defender from Sarah Forster. We have seen a lot of body

:40:40. > :40:42.contact but it was the intention with which Sarah Forster was going

:40:43. > :40:49.in with only the body to play in mind.

:40:50. > :41:02.Amanda Kessel may get a second on the power play here.

:41:03. > :41:22.There is Amanda Kessel. She has now got two and that was a sweet finish.

:41:23. > :41:28.A power-play goal for the Americans and it is high fives all around as

:41:29. > :41:31.they lead 5-0 in this first period. That is the best team play from

:41:32. > :41:37.anybody I have seen in this tournament so far. The way the

:41:38. > :41:41.Americans move the puck around, it goes from Decker over to Kessel and

:41:42. > :41:45.then it is short side. What a finish, she knew exactly where she

:41:46. > :41:49.wanted it to go. It is between the blocker and the body and it is

:41:50. > :41:54.poetry in motion for the Americans. That will be a set designed that

:41:55. > :42:00.they want to achieve and they executed it. She is going to get

:42:01. > :42:13.another chance. What a save! That is highlight real star. Florence

:42:14. > :42:21.Schelling has had a tough old timer that is one she can smile about.

:42:22. > :42:25.Cannes one gave a smile of acknowledgement to the referees

:42:26. > :42:27.there. In the Olympic Games it is a wonderful moment. -- Monique

:42:28. > :42:43.Lamoureux one. This period has been dominated by

:42:44. > :42:51.the Americans and they lead this one x 5-0.

:42:52. > :42:57.That was a big deflection and there is a penalty coming. We will see

:42:58. > :42:58.another Swiss power play, their second of the game. Their first was

:42:59. > :43:15.pretty decent. That takes away what looks to be a

:43:16. > :43:18.very promising opportunity in front of the goal and you can accept those

:43:19. > :43:23.penalties if you are the American coach. The next opportunity might be

:43:24. > :43:37.even better than what they can generate in the power play. This is

:43:38. > :43:40.the final Olympics for Julie Chu and she is hoping to sign off with a

:43:41. > :43:50.gold. That is what she told us in the chat the other day. Nicole Bullo

:43:51. > :44:01.returns to her own end. That is a nasty looking play. It

:44:02. > :44:09.gave possession back to the Americans. It is very difficult when

:44:10. > :44:14.you give those wide passes. That is the American captain, she is going

:44:15. > :44:19.to get some help out there. There has been a power-play -- this has

:44:20. > :44:27.been a power-play that has spotted so far for Switzerland. Really poor

:44:28. > :44:33.outlet players this. Another smart play from Nicole Bullo but it was

:44:34. > :44:37.stolen away there. They are just creating their own problems here.

:44:38. > :44:41.Here is Hilary Knight. She is merciless and she fires in on goal.

:44:42. > :44:43.You have to remember that the US have one less player than

:44:44. > :44:51.Switzerland right now but it does not look like it. I remember getting

:44:52. > :44:57.report cards when I was younger and you used to have a U or I and the I

:44:58. > :45:01.in this case would represent insufficient in as far as the Swiss

:45:02. > :45:06.power play is concerned. They are at sixes and sevens and have lost their

:45:07. > :45:09.ability to move the park. They are making plays now that are hopeful

:45:10. > :45:17.and wishing but that will not get it done against these Americans. Good

:45:18. > :45:24.gracious! These were additional comments after you got the letter A,

:45:25. > :45:31.B, S D. It meant if it was really poor it was insufficient. This is

:45:32. > :45:44.insufficient from the Swiss so far. They are better team than this my

:45:45. > :46:02.opinion. It feels more like a power kill.

:46:03. > :46:11.She was desperately trying to get rid of it and I think she is going

:46:12. > :46:18.to have a few words, Laura Benz. She has been penalised for holding the

:46:19. > :46:31.puck. She had it in her body and did not want to let it up. It was great

:46:32. > :46:35.defensive play a moment ago. This goes right into the body and she

:46:36. > :46:48.holds on for far too long and she is going to be penalised for delaying

:46:49. > :46:53.the game. That is harsh. It looked as if she was trying to get it away.

:46:54. > :47:03.It is harsh, but I think she had it too long. She starts trying to move

:47:04. > :47:32.out. She drops that where the Americans can get on it.

:47:33. > :47:53.She has been involved the whole day, but the Americans have been too

:47:54. > :47:58.much for her. They seem to have had their rivalry, they no doubt play

:47:59. > :48:28.each other week in, week out. There is no messing. They are

:48:29. > :48:30.turning up on the alley. They were blown apart by this American

:48:31. > :49:36.powerhouse. The powerplay has 26 seconds

:49:37. > :49:46.remaining. The puck was contacted by the American sticks. Once you knock

:49:47. > :49:48.that puck out of the air, and it is above shoulder height, that is why

:49:49. > :50:26.the whistle was blown. The Americans have come here to win

:50:27. > :50:47.gold and this will determine where leg are in the group.

:50:48. > :50:59.The sisters combine again, double trouble for the Swiss. As it came

:51:00. > :51:09.back, the shot was high and over the shoulder. Great puck movement and

:51:10. > :51:26.great stationary position in front. Monique Lamoureux's shot perfect. It

:51:27. > :52:01.changes direction. Monique Lamoureux takes their advice of the coach.

:52:02. > :52:24.It goes across the face. We get another whistle. Somewhere at the

:52:25. > :52:30.back is Kendall Coyne and this is hard opportunity. -- her

:52:31. > :52:46.opportunity. What approach do these teams take

:52:47. > :52:56.from here? The Americans have to keep on keeping on. They have to try

:52:57. > :53:09.keeping on trying to score. You cannot let up. The swifts need to

:53:10. > :53:32.push forward -- Switzerland. I think that was very close.

:53:33. > :53:46.Amanda Kessel claims are hat-trick, finishing on the back and side. A

:53:47. > :53:52.game to remember. It is number seven for the USA. Whether or not they

:53:53. > :54:00.allow the first nibble across the goal line, obviously the referee was

:54:01. > :54:08.right on top of it. That all will not count, they will code the first

:54:09. > :54:28.one if that is what the video shows. I think that was a alley. I

:54:29. > :54:36.think so. Amanda Kessel could be denied the opportunity for the

:54:37. > :55:00.hat-trick. It is a goal for Kendall Coyne.

:55:01. > :55:13.An interesting question, who will score the hat-trick first? Amanda

:55:14. > :55:34.Kessel. Two goals for Kendall Coyne. Three

:55:35. > :56:56.players sniffing for a hat-trick. That is number nine. A lovely

:56:57. > :57:13.finish. She flicked it high over the blocker. The US can rejoice.

:57:14. > :57:48.Carpenter under due rest -- in trouble.

:57:49. > :58:02.She has a few words to say. We were talking about Hilary Knight, she has

:58:03. > :58:11.had a quiet day, won two, one assist. Amanda Kessel and Kendall

:58:12. > :58:47.Coyne seem to have a good relationship with one another.

:58:48. > :59:00.Comprehensive for the USA. They face the Canadians on Wednesday with

:59:01. > :59:11.great confidence after back-to-back wins to start the Olympic campaign.

:59:12. > :59:22.Switzerland are taking a battering in this campaign. The USA looking as

:59:23. > :59:29.if they might win this campaign. If you have bad knees, you might want

:59:30. > :59:38.to look away now, because it is the moguls.

:59:39. > :59:52.Welcome to the Rosa Khutor X-treme Park. We have 30 of the top bomb

:59:53. > :00:01.gears in the world -- bump skiers in the world. Nobody gets eliminated at

:00:02. > :00:04.this stage, the top ten advance directly to the final and the

:00:05. > :00:18.remaining ten that allowed for the remaining places.

:00:19. > :00:30.This is our first man for Italy, easy to spot with the colours on his

:00:31. > :00:31.lower legs. Setting up the second kicker and goes forward with the

:00:32. > :00:50.flip. He came 23rd in the 2011 World

:00:51. > :00:56.Championship 's. One of the tallest bomb skiers.

:00:57. > :01:07.The judges are marking the skiers on turns in particular. The terms count

:01:08. > :01:18.for 50% of the scorer. The time takes up 25% and the pace time is

:01:19. > :01:24.25.46 seconds. That is what they are skiing against. The air is make up

:01:25. > :01:33.the remaining 25%. -- the area is what makes up the remaining 25%. Not

:01:34. > :01:45.a bad start for Italy. Back at the top, the first of the French.

:01:46. > :01:54.He missed eight months of 2012 with injuries, he is surely but surely

:01:55. > :02:00.finding his form again. A beautiful Cork 720. He is now starting to go

:02:01. > :02:09.and making the most of the money turns and moving very quickly. He is

:02:10. > :02:12.absolutely flying. An excellent job of the second kicker, but the

:02:13. > :02:19.landing wasn't as clean as he would like. Not the end of the road here

:02:20. > :02:24.for any body, because they all get to go again. Straight to the final

:02:25. > :02:32.for the top ten, or the rest of them have to battle it out again. Two

:02:33. > :02:39.twists in that backflip from the first kicker. These are the best of

:02:40. > :02:46.the turns. Not totally controlling, he was a passenger for some of the

:02:47. > :02:57.way down, you can see the aerial manoeuvre round the second jump. 20

:02:58. > :03:00.degrees on the axis. He was penalised for the poorer turned in

:03:01. > :03:04.the middle part of the course, so room for improvement, but he is not

:03:05. > :03:14.going anywhere, he would be back for more later. Next, Finland, number

:03:15. > :03:26.three, they the Olympic title in 2002 at the Salt Lake City games.

:03:27. > :03:35.Good landing, starting to go to work here, and he is out of control and

:03:36. > :03:41.desperately trying to bring it back. He will not be disqualified, he will

:03:42. > :03:50.get a finish, but he will get a poor score.

:03:51. > :04:02.He took out the panel, the width of the chorus between the control

:04:03. > :04:07.gates. -- the width of the course. He was over the tales of his skis in

:04:08. > :04:12.the back for a while, before he too could back under control, but he

:04:13. > :04:18.lasted once more, flying off the tops of the bumps rather than

:04:19. > :04:28.cutting in between. He puts the brakes on.

:04:29. > :05:02.Ciacomo Mattis is the leader at the moment.

:05:03. > :05:10.For a long time here, the Canadians have not been able to stop winning

:05:11. > :05:20.gold. They have achieved great things. The panel is being replaced.

:05:21. > :05:30.The first of the Russians here, Andrey Volkov, 2015 the Olympic

:05:31. > :05:36.Winter games four years ago. He made his international debut at the age

:05:37. > :05:47.of 14 in 2004. His younger brother also competes, surrogate, but we are

:05:48. > :05:56.watching Andrey Volkov. -- his younger brother, Sergey Volkov. He

:05:57. > :06:01.is absolutely steaming through here. This is to reflect. If e-mail is the

:06:02. > :06:10.second jump, he will be in first position. -- if he nails the second

:06:11. > :06:17.jump. A good landing. I think that would be good enough for first

:06:18. > :06:25.position for Andrey Volkov, the man from Moscow. Settles down nicely,

:06:26. > :06:29.the first full twist, back somersault. Then he put his foot

:06:30. > :06:36.down and he motored across the snow in the money turn. His hands were

:06:37. > :06:47.held gently on the ski poles. One or two moments where he was out of

:06:48. > :06:56.control. This was the second jump. A 720 court of that second jump. --

:06:57. > :07:08.cork off That second jump. He might just be penalised for a way

:07:09. > :07:14.words landing on the second jump. Second position. That is a little

:07:15. > :07:17.bit harsh on stopping shakes his head, he knows he has got better to

:07:18. > :07:27.come. It is not over for the Russians.

:07:28. > :07:39.Another Russian to go, only two Russians have won World Cup gold.

:07:40. > :07:46.A decent landing, he goes to work. Charging through the middle part of

:07:47. > :07:56.the course and lots of control. This is good to wash. Knees and skis tied

:07:57. > :08:12.together in combat. He spins around and creates a second jump.

:08:13. > :08:29.First jump, beautifully done. Twisting, full back somersault.

:08:30. > :08:36.Grabbed both of these skis on the way through. This is worth seeing

:08:37. > :08:41.again, this jump, this is the first of these we have seen. Hands

:08:42. > :08:46.forward, a semi-pike position and holding both of the skis in front of

:08:47. > :08:58.the topi is of the binding. And this is good enough for the lead. 23.52,

:08:59. > :09:03.he is happy with that. The Russians in first and third place at the

:09:04. > :09:08.moment. No medals to be one right now, they will be decided later at

:09:09. > :09:17.11pm local time, so 7pm in the UK for the final round. They will go

:09:18. > :09:25.for 30 in the first final, then down to 12, then down to six for the

:09:26. > :09:30.final round. 20, to 12, to six, I beg your pardon. Next, Kazakhstan,

:09:31. > :09:35.and start a great line straight after that.

:09:36. > :09:39.They have had to turn up the speed of the cable camera to keep up with

:09:40. > :09:55.these. Not a bad run. Fourth in the Deer

:09:56. > :10:04.Valley World Cup earlier this season.

:10:05. > :10:11.He did not totally straight his body on the first somersault, and the

:10:12. > :10:19.landing was scruffy. I do not think the leaders in any danger. -- the

:10:20. > :10:32.leader's in any danger. 20 go in final round one, 12 going

:10:33. > :10:38.final round two, the best 60 the battle for the medals as Kazakhstan

:10:39. > :10:48.skis into second position. It is starting to heat up. Next, Sweden.

:10:49. > :10:58.Sweden have got a couple of good skiers in tonight.

:10:59. > :11:06.Nine turns before the first kicker. A twisting back somersault, that is

:11:07. > :11:11.lovely skiing in the middle. The upper body is still and relaxed and

:11:12. > :11:16.his head is still, shoulders facing down. This is one of the best we

:11:17. > :11:23.have seen in the money turns. The second jump and the backflip. He

:11:24. > :11:29.keeps it relatively safe. We would be hoping for a direct acceptance

:11:30. > :11:33.into the final. Hopefully, the chance to avoid the second round of

:11:34. > :11:46.qualification. He is happy with how it has gone. The 2013 junior world

:11:47. > :11:52.champion from Sweden. The second jump, the backflip and the irony

:11:53. > :12:03.cross, really stretch that out. A nice landing.

:12:04. > :12:09.Waiting for the score to come through. He might be scored down

:12:10. > :12:15.slightly because of the lack of the degree of difficulty on the chums,

:12:16. > :12:22.but it is OK, the speed is good, and he has got a solid scorer. He is in

:12:23. > :12:32.fourth position at the moment. Russia is in the lead. Patrick

:12:33. > :12:38.Deneen is consistently the fastest man across the snow, and he is

:12:39. > :12:44.next, from the USA, 26 years of age, finished in the top ten in 24

:12:45. > :12:51.of his last 25 events. He is Mr consistent. Not a great landing from

:12:52. > :12:57.the first kicker. I told you he was quick, look at him here. He is

:12:58. > :13:05.flying, but he is out of control, and he'd take out the gate, and he

:13:06. > :13:12.has got an extra sock. He will not be getting direct acceptance into

:13:13. > :13:21.the first round of the final. His family are here watching. He has two

:13:22. > :13:28.sets down and see it again on the big screen. He started promising

:13:29. > :13:35.enough. This is part of the problem with his speed, it is so excessive.

:13:36. > :13:42.He was in trouble, he almost tripped over his right ski. He ended up

:13:43. > :13:47.slamming into the control gate at the side of the course and removed

:13:48. > :13:53.the panel which he wore for the rest of his run. He will have to go again

:13:54. > :14:03.in qualifying number two, and hopefully, better luck. The score is

:14:04. > :14:09.a relevant here, really, for Patrick Deneen, he knows he will have to

:14:10. > :14:19.return and ski again in the second round of qualifying. No direct

:14:20. > :14:25.acceptance for him. First of the Japanese, they are always explosive

:14:26. > :14:38.and exciting to watch. , this is Sho Endo, the 23 rolled. -- 23-year-old.

:14:39. > :14:44.The first kicker, nicely done, the middle of the chorus, watch him

:14:45. > :14:49.going. Absolutely charging. He is eating up the ground. I sing from

:14:50. > :15:02.bumper-to-bumper, and the second kicker and float it around. --

:15:03. > :15:08.flying from bumper-to-bumper. He will score well on speed. The turns

:15:09. > :15:14.were pretty solid, and he was decent in the air. He will, I would think,

:15:15. > :15:24.go close to the score of the Russian leader.

:15:25. > :15:36.Riding the mid-bumps beautifully. Excellent speed as well. Second

:15:37. > :15:43.jump, Sho Endo gets a backflip. It is going to be first or second,

:15:44. > :15:50.provisionally, for Sho Endo. I would say first. The judges say second. He

:15:51. > :15:56.is just behind Alexandr Smyshlyaev. He has a decent chance, Sho Endo, of

:15:57. > :16:11.progressing directly through to the final along with the best of the top

:16:12. > :16:12.ten. This is the 28-year-old from Kawasaki in Japan. Ninth in the

:16:13. > :16:34.Olympic Games in Vancouver. Nobuyuki Nishi into the middle part

:16:35. > :16:38.of the course with his shiny suit glistening under the floodlights.

:16:39. > :16:46.Fabulous to watch. Straight back somersault. Again, the time is fast.

:16:47. > :16:56.Under the pace time. Enjoyed his run. Ignore the celebrations. All of

:16:57. > :17:05.the bump skiers punched the air, generally, whether they have had a

:17:06. > :17:15.good, bad or indifferent run. He bounced to the camera. Lots to enjoy

:17:16. > :17:22.here. Backflip -- he browse to the camera. The turns in the central

:17:23. > :17:28.part of the course as he came down on the left were excellent at times.

:17:29. > :17:32.Got a great deal of distance on the second jump. The Japanese coaches

:17:33. > :17:42.please. Top five, I would suggest, at the moment for Nobuyuki Nishi. It

:17:43. > :17:46.is for. Good stuff from the second Japanese skier on the hill to night.

:17:47. > :17:55.Now it is the turn of the second American, 21-year-old Bradley Wilson

:17:56. > :18:05.from Utah. Younger brother at the 2010 Olympic bronze medallist Byron

:18:06. > :18:11.Wilson. He is ready to go. Nine turns, sometimes ten, before the

:18:12. > :18:17.first kick. Tall, upright figure. Now he gets to work.

:18:18. > :18:24.Look at him fly down the left-hand side of the course! Bradley

:18:25. > :18:34.Wilson's second jump is massive. Backflip. That is two seconds plus

:18:35. > :18:39.quicker than pace time. Easily the fastest man on the Hill. Bradley

:18:40. > :18:47.Wilson smiling. I think he enjoyed that. I certainly did. I hope you

:18:48. > :18:53.did. That was fabulous. Best to slow it down to give you an idea of what

:18:54. > :18:57.he is doing here. That was the full twisting back off the first kick.

:18:58. > :19:04.This was his second jump. Backflip off the second one. It was the turns

:19:05. > :19:11.in between that really distinguished his run. Look at the height he

:19:12. > :19:14.achieved off the second jump. Bradley Wilson pushing for direct

:19:15. > :19:19.acceptance into the final. Needs to be among the top ten. I think he has

:19:20. > :19:30.probably scored a top five mark here. It is fourth. Alexandr

:19:31. > :19:43.Smyshlyaev still leads for Russia. Second is Sho Endo. This is one of

:19:44. > :19:51.the youngest in the field, just 19 years of age, Jimi Salonen. Let us

:19:52. > :19:56.see what he can do here. Fourth in the junior World Championships.

:19:57. > :20:01.Backflip, thrown forward, almost went out of the front door. Now he

:20:02. > :20:06.is really fighting against the bumps in the early stages. Settled over

:20:07. > :20:12.the second half. A little scruffy in places. Skis coming apart. He has

:20:13. > :20:20.managed to stand up. Again, the time is fast. Under 25 seconds. Within

:20:21. > :20:25.the pace time. Seeing a few of them scheme within pace. None of the

:20:26. > :20:33.women in their final beat the pace time. The men are really throwing it

:20:34. > :20:36.down the Hilton night. Softer conditions tonight. -- down the

:20:37. > :20:42.Hilton night. It is warm and encourages the racers to attack

:20:43. > :20:46.because the bumps are so soft and malleable, you can really absorb and

:20:47. > :20:52.get stuck into them. Tougher when they are firmer as they were for the

:20:53. > :20:56.women's competition. Got the crowd in at the end of that jump. Good

:20:57. > :21:01.stuff from Jimi Salonen, the youngster. The turns will count

:21:02. > :21:07.against him. I think he will have to return and try to qualify again. He

:21:08. > :21:14.is ninth at the moment. The standard is particularly high here this

:21:15. > :21:26.evening. Next ago, Ville Miettunen from Finland. Number 19. Comes from

:21:27. > :21:28.a regular venue for the moguls skiing World Cup. Injured his knee

:21:29. > :21:32.and probably should have had surgery right at the start of the season but

:21:33. > :21:38.opted against it so he is skiing with a snap ligament. Goodness me. I

:21:39. > :21:43.think he might have done some damage here tonight. That is a crashing

:21:44. > :21:52.fall from Ville Miettunen of Finland. There was movement but he

:21:53. > :22:00.is hiding behind the moguls. Worrying times for the finish team

:22:01. > :22:05.here. Ville Miettunen, the 21-year-old Finnish man, of 28

:22:06. > :22:12.dreadful start. Now the course workers are getting to him. -- off

:22:13. > :22:22.to a dreadful start. The medic is there. He is starting to move but it

:22:23. > :22:28.is not an encouraging sign here. It is a brutal sport when it goes

:22:29. > :22:34.wrong. There is no way of escaping, unless you exit the course, and in

:22:35. > :22:39.an Olympic competition, the temptation is to leave everything on

:22:40. > :22:47.the Hill, push for a place, whatever the cost physically. Round of

:22:48. > :22:52.applause for Ville Miettunen of Finland who is back on his feet. He

:22:53. > :22:57.is going to be bruised and battered and I am sure he got winded. But you

:22:58. > :23:05.never know, maybe he will be back for more later. He gets another

:23:06. > :23:09.chance, if he chooses. He has picked himself up and dusted himself down.

:23:10. > :23:14.He will be able to start all over again. I wonder if he will be able

:23:15. > :23:37.to though. He is clearly in pain. This is it. Landed short of his

:23:38. > :23:42.required location. Smacked him right on top of the bump. Then it was

:23:43. > :23:47.headfirst and another couple of spins before he came to rest, hidden

:23:48. > :24:00.by the mogul. Did not get all of the way round. Headfirst forward role.

:24:01. > :24:04.The moguls are softer tonight. Thank goodness for that. If that had

:24:05. > :24:10.happened during the women's competition, serious damage would

:24:11. > :24:15.have been done. The warmer weather has softened the bumps. Goodness me.

:24:16. > :24:20.Drama in the early stages of the men's bumps competition. The next

:24:21. > :24:33.man on the Hill is from Maidstone in Great Britain. His name is Benjamin

:24:34. > :24:40.Cavet. His father was a ski instructor and moved to France and

:24:41. > :24:48.he chose to compete for France with a lack of backing from British

:24:49. > :24:52.freestyle. His first run ends prematurely. Having seen what

:24:53. > :24:56.happened to Ville Miettunen who landed in a similar fashion, he has

:24:57. > :25:03.decided to call it quits and concentrate on his second run. Born

:25:04. > :25:09.in Maidstone, lives in more zine -- France. Took up French citizenship

:25:10. > :25:16.in 2012 and moved to France from England at the age of ten. Says he

:25:17. > :25:20.always felt French when he was skiing and he has been in a French

:25:21. > :25:24.club and it seemed natural for him to move up through the rankings in

:25:25. > :25:34.the French team. And here he is in the Olympic team. Another chance for

:25:35. > :25:42.Benjamin Cavet a little later. He made a mess of the first jump which

:25:43. > :25:47.was ambitious, the lateral twist. It was an ambitious jump. But he

:25:48. > :25:55.managed to avoid any mishaps on landing. Recovered without crashing.

:25:56. > :26:11.That is important. He can return. He can have another go. There is the

:26:12. > :26:17.French coach. Matt Graham is going for Australia next. Just 19 years of

:26:18. > :26:22.age. For that the World Championships last winter. For the

:26:23. > :26:28.earlier this winter in a World Cup in Finland. One to watch, let us see

:26:29. > :26:33.what he can achieve here. Matt Graham, 19 years of age from

:26:34. > :26:39.Australia. Nice start. A good landing. Straight back into the

:26:40. > :26:43.turn. Now he is turning it on. He has chosen the left line. Battling

:26:44. > :26:51.his way through the bumps. Approaching kick a number two. Great

:26:52. > :26:56.landing off number two. Inside the pace time again. The soft snow

:26:57. > :27:05.conditions really encouraging the skiers to attack here tonight. The

:27:06. > :27:18.school to beat is still the target set by Alexandr Smyshlyaev. Sho Endo

:27:19. > :27:22.is second. Dmitriy Reiherd is third. Matt Graham had his best performance

:27:23. > :27:31.when he was skiing the money turns mid-course. Second jump, backflip,

:27:32. > :27:42.iron Cross, spots the landing, complete the move, a couple more

:27:43. > :27:48.turns and he is home. Will it be top ten? It is fifth for the moment for

:27:49. > :27:54.Matt Graham. He will have to sweat it out to see if he makes it through

:27:55. > :27:57.to the final without having to compete once again in the second

:27:58. > :28:01.qualifying round. Best ten go directly to the final. They are led

:28:02. > :28:08.at the moment by Alexandr Smyshlyaev, Sho Endo and Dmitriy

:28:09. > :28:14.Reiherd at the moment. This is the bearded Swede, Per Spett. He is

:28:15. > :28:19.great to watch. Pretty relaxed. Grins and smiles his way through

:28:20. > :28:22.competition. Just wait and see if he pulls his trademark move off the

:28:23. > :28:28.second jump. It is a fabulous manoeuvre. The first jump, backflip.

:28:29. > :28:34.Three elements there. Turns for the Swedish mountain man. Pretty solid.

:28:35. > :28:44.Prepare yourself for the second jump. I hope he does it! Superman

:28:45. > :28:57.front flip. Skis away. That is what we like to see from Per Spett of

:28:58. > :29:06.Sweden. A real entertainer. 28 years of age, his second Olympic Games.

:29:07. > :29:12.23rd in Vancouver four years ago. First jump, backflip, iron Cross,

:29:13. > :29:17.solid ground. Tweaking it out with the raised right arm to add a little

:29:18. > :29:22.more creativity to the jump. This is the trademark move, the Superman

:29:23. > :29:28.followed by the tarp front somersault -- tuck front somersault.

:29:29. > :29:34.Then he produces that. The turns might count against him, but I hope

:29:35. > :29:50.to see much more of him in the contest tonight. Per Spett, he will

:29:51. > :29:57.have to try and qualify again, I suspect. The 25-year-old from Sydney

:29:58. > :30:05.next. 11th at the World Championships last year.

:30:06. > :30:21.Sam Hall get the three, two, one call. First jump, the backflip. A

:30:22. > :30:29.nice start from Sam Hall. He was a passenger, now he's battling for

:30:30. > :30:35.balance. He is fighting for control. Full twist back from the second

:30:36. > :30:42.kicker, but he lost it midway. The skis got away from him. He tried to

:30:43. > :30:49.keep his body in time with his skis, but it was a struggle after the

:30:50. > :30:59.first landing. Over the tales. Some good moments. Some bad moments.

:31:00. > :31:05.Alexandr Smyshlyaev is still leading, Sho Endo is second,

:31:06. > :31:16.Kazakhstan third. Those three beginning to feel confident about

:31:17. > :31:21.qualifying directly. And with just 12 to go, their chances are growing

:31:22. > :31:26.all the time. Sam Hall will have to move and ski again in the second

:31:27. > :31:31.qualification round. Now, Mike Kingsbury, the first of the two big

:31:32. > :31:35.names in this sport, Michael Kingsbury has won three world cups

:31:36. > :31:48.this season. Alex Bilodeau, his compatriot, he has won world cups

:31:49. > :31:52.also. This is Mike Kingsbury, the 21-year-old. He skis the first of

:31:53. > :32:00.the two big guns for the Canadians. They already have gold and silver in

:32:01. > :32:05.the women's competition. Mike Kingsbury skiing here in his first

:32:06. > :32:12.Olympic Games. Nice work in the middle part. The skis and the knees

:32:13. > :32:18.locked together. Pretty solid. I do not think it will be troubling the

:32:19. > :32:31.run of Alexandr Smyshlyaev, but you might be playing it safe here. Here

:32:32. > :32:46.we go, the first jump. Straight. Good landing. Not much wrong with

:32:47. > :32:52.it. Reputation can count for a lot. His second jump was pretty solid.

:32:53. > :32:57.Not much wrong with his run. He might get into the top three here.

:32:58. > :33:01.The coaches pretty happy with it. Will it be better than the Russian,

:33:02. > :33:07.Alexandr Smyshlyaev, it has got to be top three. They have given him

:33:08. > :33:14.first. A good chance of direct passage through to the final. Philip

:33:15. > :33:37.Maki is next to go for Canada. He got picked for the Canadian team

:33:38. > :33:42.following an injury to another skier, he would be hoping to make

:33:43. > :33:50.the most of this opportunity. These are some nice terms. He is ripping

:33:51. > :33:55.it up. This is great to watch. Excellent bump skiing. All of the

:33:56. > :34:08.elements are there. I think he will be pretty pleased with that. A late

:34:09. > :34:13.inclusion in the Canadian team. His older brother finished fourth, just

:34:14. > :34:23.outside of the medals at the 2010 final. Skiing nicely. The skis were

:34:24. > :34:30.parted at times, but the red was sensational. -- the rhythm was

:34:31. > :34:35.sensational. I sometimes think a little bit of wit between the skis

:34:36. > :34:45.makes it look better than when they are locked together. The judges were

:34:46. > :34:54.liking bad, they have given him fourth place. -- the judges were

:34:55. > :35:06.liking flat. Kingsbury, 23.81, he is in the lead. Time for Dale

:35:07. > :35:14.Begg-Smith to ski, the mysterious Dale Begg-Smith. The Olympic

:35:15. > :35:27.champion in children in 2006. -- the Olympic champion in Turin. You can

:35:28. > :35:32.see why he was crowned Olympic champion in 2006, he is a master of

:35:33. > :35:44.mystery and a master of the Mogul. He explodes from the second kicker.

:35:45. > :35:54.He is also a successful businessman, he has an Internet business, he

:35:55. > :36:00.keeps his cards close to his chest. The Australians are particularly

:36:01. > :36:10.warmed to him, they call him of the dale, because of his Canadian

:36:11. > :36:18.descent. -- they call him Aussie Dale. Dale Begg-Smith, the champion

:36:19. > :36:26.in 2006, the silver medal in 2010, the man of mystery. He is waiting

:36:27. > :36:31.for his score to come through. The scorer has been 23.81, I cannot see

:36:32. > :36:35.him beating that. He is in 13th place, so he will have to do it

:36:36. > :36:40.again in the second round of qualifying. He missed a couple of

:36:41. > :36:43.years after the last Olympics, and he is going to have to work really

:36:44. > :36:59.hard to make it to the final tonight. Next, Brodie Summers,

:37:00. > :37:11.another Australian, born in Paris. -- Perth. Twisting back somersault.

:37:12. > :37:19.The money turned out pretty solid. Some nice work from Brodie Summers.

:37:20. > :37:30.Barely out of control in the second kicker, and well executed. 25.73.

:37:31. > :37:38.Just beyond the pace time. Now, a top ten is what he would like the

:37:39. > :37:42.moment. With a bit of luck, a top six, really. There are eight more to

:37:43. > :37:49.come, they include Alex Bilodeau, the defending champion, he would be

:37:50. > :37:54.next. They also include Alexi publico, the 18-year-old Russian

:37:55. > :38:06.from St Petersburg, and exciting prospect. -- Pavlemko.

:38:07. > :38:14.The Australian coaches are waiting patiently. I do not know if he is

:38:15. > :38:18.going to make the top five. Possibly the top ten. Remember, nobody goes

:38:19. > :38:31.out at this stage. He is in seventh position. 21.56. He is in the top

:38:32. > :38:36.ten for the moment, and he will have to hope that he stays there and does

:38:37. > :38:43.not have to qualify again. Kingsbury is still leading the head of

:38:44. > :38:48.Alexandr Smyshlyaev and Sho Endo. Here we go, the defending champion

:38:49. > :38:53.is taking his turn, Alex Bilodeau, his great rival Mike Kingsbury is

:38:54. > :38:57.leading the way. The battle continues. They have shared every

:38:58. > :39:04.World Cup so far this season. Three wins each. Write to 720, looks like

:39:05. > :39:08.you would topple backwards on the landing, but is back upright, and

:39:09. > :39:14.Stanley goes to work. The Olympic champion doing what he does best. He

:39:15. > :39:18.chose to go it alone, does not train with the rest of the Canadians. The

:39:19. > :39:24.magnificent skiing from Alex Bilodeau. Inside the pace time. The

:39:25. > :39:27.Canadians, they were absurdly enjoying that, there is his brother

:39:28. > :39:31.on the right-hand side with a red jacket and the Red Hat, he was there

:39:32. > :39:37.to watch 's brother on Cypress Mountain star to the Canadian gold

:39:38. > :39:45.rush in 2010, and he is there again in rush hour. Corking through 720

:39:46. > :39:50.and a slight wobble on the landing. A flash before he was back into the

:39:51. > :39:55.groove. Ripping his way through the middle part of this course. I think

:39:56. > :40:01.this would be a top 34 Alex Bilodeau. I think you will progress

:40:02. > :40:05.directly through to the final the second jump with a grab inserted in

:40:06. > :40:16.the iron cross. The twisting backflip. He is in the lead, he

:40:17. > :40:18.takes the lead away from Kingsbury. 23.813 Kingsbury, 24.704 Alex

:40:19. > :40:39.Bilodeau. The builds again. Next up, Korea, 19 years of age,

:40:40. > :40:43.Choi Jae-woo Choi. The rookie of the year for last season. Let us see if

:40:44. > :40:51.he can make it count in his Olympic debut.

:40:52. > :40:55.Taking it on, taking a risk, a couple of mistakes, but keeping it

:40:56. > :41:06.calm. A mass of length and height of the

:41:07. > :41:17.second jump with a straight line into the finish. No surprising that

:41:18. > :41:22.it is fast. I think it is probably a little bit too scruffy to push for a

:41:23. > :41:24.top-10 place at the moment, but I do not know. Let us see what the judges

:41:25. > :41:43.think of this. A silhouette against the darkening

:41:44. > :41:47.sky, some excellent moments during the middle part of this course, but

:41:48. > :41:58.some mistakes and another one later on. Will it be a top-10? Possibly

:41:59. > :42:05.not. He will have to try and collar fire in the next stage. -- try and

:42:06. > :42:23.qualify. Next, Pavel Kolmakov for Kazakhstan. The best of the

:42:24. > :42:31.Kazakhstan eases Dmitriy Reiherd. Alex Bilodeau of Canada in the lead

:42:32. > :42:35.at the moment. Coming right in the centre of the course and starting to

:42:36. > :42:40.open the throttle. His knees are working overtime as he bounces from

:42:41. > :42:48.the crest of one bump to another and turning it on beautifully. Similar

:42:49. > :42:59.jump to Per Spett, the Superman jump. The youngest man in the

:43:00. > :43:06.contest tonight. Five more to go here. And on the cusp of the top ten

:43:07. > :43:20.at the moment is Nobuyuki Nishi of Japan. He might be knocked down a

:43:21. > :43:29.bit by Pavel Kolmakov. A very entertaining pumps run. The Superman

:43:30. > :43:35.front and then detox somersault with a good landing. The top tennis what

:43:36. > :43:41.he wants, and the top ten as what he has got at the moment. He will have

:43:42. > :43:47.a nervous wait as the last five come down. If you doesn't make it

:43:48. > :43:52.through, as part of the top ten, then he will get another chance.

:43:53. > :43:59.Nobody goes out at this stage. Jussi Penttala first Inland. A good

:44:00. > :44:06.tradition in bump skiing, this is the 20-year-old from Helsinki. He

:44:07. > :44:10.made his international debut at 16 and has been getting better ever

:44:11. > :44:16.since. A full twisting back somersault from the first kicker and

:44:17. > :44:19.he is not in full control here. Moving slightly from right-to-left,

:44:20. > :44:24.east to west across this course with some good recoveries. Keeping it

:44:25. > :44:30.going and gets to the final jump will stop it was hit and miss at

:44:31. > :44:43.times, but the speed is good. Full control, no. On the edge, yes. Good

:44:44. > :44:50.to watch, absolutely. And nice landing from the first. A bit of

:44:51. > :44:57.airtime as he fought his way through, rather than controlling his

:44:58. > :45:01.way down. He will have to qualify again. He will not get a direct

:45:02. > :45:06.passage through to the first round of the final. Just to remind you, it

:45:07. > :45:11.is a three state final, 20 in round one, 12 in round two, six in round

:45:12. > :45:20.three, with the scores scrubbed at the end of each leg, a fresh start

:45:21. > :45:30.for the best six as they go through to do battle for the medals, that is

:45:31. > :45:35.at 11pm local time, 7pm with you. The last four, one of them is a

:45:36. > :45:48.Russian. In fact, two of them are Russians. Excitement builds for the

:45:49. > :45:57.local crowd. Best of the Russians as Alexandr Smyshlyaev in third. The

:45:58. > :46:05.next of the Russians is on the hill now. Aleksey Pavlenko. Took a split

:46:06. > :46:12.second to settle after landing the first jump. He has chosen the left.

:46:13. > :46:17.A little nervous. The crowd doing their best to help them along. But

:46:18. > :46:28.he might just have to return and have another crack at it. The

:46:29. > :46:32.Russian team watching carefully as Aleksey Pavlenko takes his seat and

:46:33. > :46:39.waits for his score. Not the most difficult first jump. Tuck back

:46:40. > :46:45.somersault. Terms in the middle part of the course. Look at these

:46:46. > :46:53.pictures in high-definition, absolutely fantastic. -- turns.

:46:54. > :46:59.Flakes of soft snow flying up. It is a good second jump. But he will have

:47:00. > :47:04.to try again, I would think. I am not sure there will be a top ten

:47:05. > :47:08.place for Aleksey Pavlenko. Too many mistakes. Let us see what the judges

:47:09. > :47:22.think of it. He will get another chance. He is 11. Just missed it.

:47:23. > :47:27.Three to go. Next up, Dmitriy Barmashov from Kazakhstan. 29th in

:47:28. > :47:36.Vancouver four years ago. There he is in the yellow. Dmitriy Reiherd is

:47:37. > :47:45.already guaranteed a place in the top ten. Dmitriy Barmashov bids to

:47:46. > :47:51.join him now for the direct those in the final. First jump, pretty solid.

:47:52. > :47:55.Tidied up the landing beautifully. Look at him motor now as we ride

:47:56. > :48:03.with him on the cable camera. He has lost a ski. An explosion of

:48:04. > :48:10.equipment. That is where it ends, for the moment, for Dmitriy

:48:11. > :48:13.Barmashov. The soft moguls saving him this evening. Assuming he has

:48:14. > :48:21.not done any damage, he will get a chance to go again. Relief for his

:48:22. > :48:32.other team-mate who is intent at the moment, Pavel Kolmakov. That was a

:48:33. > :48:40.spectacular conclusion for the first run -- who is in 10th. His equipment

:48:41. > :48:46.is being gathered and returned to him.

:48:47. > :48:56.A chance to reflect on where things went wrong. Before he hopefully

:48:57. > :49:06.makes another appearance on the course. DNF for the moment. But it

:49:07. > :49:11.matters not with one more chance to qualify still to come, assuming he

:49:12. > :49:15.is fit. He was getting further and further behind his skis, trying to

:49:16. > :49:22.play catch up. Then the right ski released. He went into the big role

:49:23. > :49:29.from right to left. I do not think the skis should have released. The

:49:30. > :49:38.second ski came off and that was that for Dmitriy Barmashov. Now we

:49:39. > :49:42.are back with the Russian team. 26-year-old Sergey Volkov. The

:49:43. > :49:51.Russians are off to a good start. They have one man through to the

:49:52. > :50:01.final, Alexandr Smyshlyaev in third. First jump nicely done. Knees up to

:50:02. > :50:05.the chest. It is beautiful skiing. Sergey Volkov from Russia is ripping

:50:06. > :50:13.it up. Has to maintain control. He is in trouble. That is going to

:50:14. > :50:21.hurt. He has crossed the line. And he is shrugging it off. But surely

:50:22. > :50:33.he is going to be bruised. I think he landed face first, hence the

:50:34. > :50:38.goggles flew off. Well, what drama here and it is only the qualifying

:50:39. > :50:43.stage. This was it. What was he thinking. Lost his spatial awareness

:50:44. > :50:51.mid-flight. The goggles were sent up into the night sky. 70s disco

:50:52. > :50:58.dancing mid-flight there for a moment. Hard to watch for the

:50:59. > :51:04.Russian coach. But you know what? I think he might be all right. Thank

:51:05. > :51:16.goodness the bumps are soft and night. -- tonight. With one to come,

:51:17. > :51:23.the man on the cusp is still Pavel Kolmakov in 10th. He has to watch

:51:24. > :51:29.nervously as the last of the competitors, the 29th man on the

:51:30. > :51:39.whole, Marc-Antoine Gagnon has a go at the top ten. Sergey Volkov gets a

:51:40. > :51:49.school, not that him matters -- not that it matters. He will be back

:51:50. > :51:55.again. Here is the last of them, Marc-Antoine Gagnon of Canada, 22

:51:56. > :52:00.years of age, from Quebec. He is ready to go to close the first part

:52:01. > :52:06.of the Olympic competition here tonight. Nine terms at the top

:52:07. > :52:14.before the first vicar. Full twisting back -- first kicker.

:52:15. > :52:18.Canadians holding first, second and fifth places at the moment. Can they

:52:19. > :52:27.get another man through to the top ten? Pretty solid turns. The landing

:52:28. > :52:32.might prove costly. The speed is good. He is inside the pace time.

:52:33. > :52:48.Mixed bag, really. Congratulations from one of the

:52:49. > :52:52.Canadian coaches. The Canadians have such a solid tradition in bump

:52:53. > :53:07.skiing. Gold and silver medallists in the women's would be sisters.

:53:08. > :53:12.They got first and second. They have got two through to the final. Only

:53:13. > :53:18.25% of the school comes from the jumps, remember. -- the score. They

:53:19. > :53:26.have given him the best and he goes straight through to the final. That

:53:27. > :53:37.is a big score. -- they have given him fifth. Four Canadians have made

:53:38. > :53:44.the final directly, including Alex Bilodeau. A couple of Aussies, one

:53:45. > :53:47.Kazakhstan skier and a man from the USA, among others. These are the

:53:48. > :54:01.qualifiers... Pretty cosmopolitan but dominated by

:54:02. > :54:11.the four Canadian flags. These will have to go again.

:54:12. > :54:20.All of these guys as well will be back hopefully, injuries and crashes

:54:21. > :54:24.permitting, to do it again for the second round of qualifying to see if

:54:25. > :54:28.ten of them can get through to join the top ten already in the final. It

:54:29. > :54:38.is all coming your way later on this afternoon. Right here on BBC Two.

:54:39. > :54:42.Thank you. I wonder just how soft those bombs really are. When it

:54:43. > :54:48.comes to the mogul, it gets a bad press. Halfpipe, slopestyle, very

:54:49. > :54:54.cool. I think the moguls are incredible. As far as speed skating

:54:55. > :54:58.is concerned, one nation has dominated this. It takes place in

:54:59. > :55:03.the Adler Arena. There is a great light show that goes on at the end

:55:04. > :55:12.of the arena. I am just waiting to see if the colour I want is going to

:55:13. > :55:20.come. It did. Orange. It is all about the man in Orange. He is going

:55:21. > :55:33.to skate out of his skin here. He is the man. There is the classic

:55:34. > :55:40.style. The crowd love it. Arguably, the greatest 5000m skater of all

:55:41. > :55:46.time. History made here. The Dutch are first, second and third. She has

:55:47. > :55:51.completely annihilated the competition. Two competitions down,

:55:52. > :56:00.two gold medals to the Dutch. They are loving it. Yes, they have been

:56:01. > :56:05.brilliant and I was very lucky it changed to orange. The 500m is live

:56:06. > :56:14.on the red button now. Watch out for more Dutch success.

:56:15. > :56:23.Curling, yes please. I have been practising for years. When I first

:56:24. > :56:32.started, my paws were frozen to the ice. Get me on terrestrial.

:56:33. > :56:41.The Olympic Park looking a little bit dark. The Olympic rings in the

:56:42. > :56:46.background and there is the Bolshoy. We are off curling shortly. At 5am

:56:47. > :56:53.this morning, Dave Murdoch was in action against the Russians. They

:56:54. > :57:05.won 7-. -- 7-4. C or from Dave Murdoch. -- let us hear more from

:57:06. > :57:10.Dave Murdoch. British curling. Curling is a target sport, very much

:57:11. > :57:16.like long bowling in that you have to read the green. The ice changes

:57:17. > :57:23.and we are aiming with a target with the houses so it is quite difficult

:57:24. > :57:28.to assess the situation. There it is a little bit like chess because you

:57:29. > :57:36.have to counteract each opponent's moves. The toughest part of being

:57:37. > :57:43.Skip is probably playing the high-pressure shop is at the end.

:57:44. > :57:46.Sometimes it can be extremely difficult. If you do not make it,

:57:47. > :57:54.you feel you have let the team down. This team has come into really good

:57:55. > :57:57.form. We have young and enthusiastic guys and experienced guys as well. I

:57:58. > :58:01.think that combination is starting to show through. We are hoping we

:58:02. > :58:08.are coming into form at the right time.

:58:09. > :58:12.The curling will be on now right through till the end of the games.

:58:13. > :58:19.Here is everything you need to know about this amazing sport.

:58:20. > :58:24.Curling originated in 16th century Scotland and appeared in the very

:58:25. > :58:31.first Winter Olympic Games of 1924 where Britain won gold. Between 1928

:58:32. > :58:35.and 1994, it was not in the Olympic programme. But Britain was thankful

:58:36. > :58:41.for its reintroduction in 1998 as Rhona Martin's team won gold four

:58:42. > :58:48.years later. She has done it. You will never see a better shot under

:58:49. > :58:53.greater pressure. The aim of curling is to get one or more stones closer

:58:54. > :58:57.to the centre of the house than your opponents. Sweeping is a key part.

:58:58. > :59:01.It affects the distance and direction that a stone travels in.

:59:02. > :59:08.There are four players each team, known as a rink, who curl to stones

:59:09. > :59:15.each end. Only one team can score per end and mismatches are over ten

:59:16. > :59:20.ends. -- most matches. Tactics are crucial. In particular, retaining

:59:21. > :59:29.last own advantage, known as the hammer. -- last stone advantage.

:59:30. > :59:38.Dave Murdoch and his team on the ice shortly. Lightspeed skating on the

:59:39. > :59:42.red button -- live speed skating. Watch all of the excitement of the

:59:43. > :59:51.Winter Olympics with BBC sport. We are showing every sport live from

:59:52. > :59:54.Sochi. With up to six streams of live sport showing across your

:59:55. > :00:01.devices, you will be in full control of all of the action from the games.

:00:02. > :00:07.Check out our live updates and catch up on any action you have missed on

:00:08. > :00:10.the BBC I player so you can share in all the drama, wherever you are. The

:00:11. > :00:20.Winter Olympics across the BBC. First up this morning, it was the

:00:21. > :00:25.British men against Russia, the host nation. It was a great performance

:00:26. > :00:30.by David Murdoch and his boys, winning by seven points to four. It

:00:31. > :00:34.was exactly the way you want to start your Olympic on petition. The

:00:35. > :00:45.women were up against Sweden and it was tough. They lost that, Dave

:00:46. > :00:49.Murdoch, and the guys, getting off to the perfect start. It's going to

:00:50. > :00:53.be a different scenario for them now because they are up against Sweden,

:00:54. > :00:58.one of the top nations here, just as they are in the women's condition.

:00:59. > :01:01.We have got Jackie Lockhart and Steve Cram standing by to describe

:01:02. > :01:08.this one. Lots of pressure on the guys, isn't there? If they don't

:01:09. > :01:13.depose him of the lead, The Times gives him a running total of 71 54,

:01:14. > :01:24.second at this stage... The teams are marching into the

:01:25. > :01:30.wonderful signs of the back pipes, -- bagpipes, and they come from

:01:31. > :01:33.Moscow, apparently! These are the traditional noise at the curling

:01:34. > :01:38.competition. A good crowd building here for the second round matches. A

:01:39. > :01:46.much tougher match in prospect, against the world champions from

:01:47. > :01:51.Sweden. In that introduction, it was mentioned that curling is -- curling

:01:52. > :01:58.originally came into the Olympics in 1924. Sweden got the silver medal

:01:59. > :02:03.behind Britain on that occasion. There you can see from this morning,

:02:04. > :02:09.Canada, China, Great Britain and Sweden all came through with

:02:10. > :02:17.victories. Norway and the United States didn't play. It pretty much

:02:18. > :02:21.went to script this morning. Sweden had a little bit of a tussle, more

:02:22. > :02:25.of a difficult game than they might have envisaged that came through in

:02:26. > :02:29.the end. It will be testing to see how things pan out this evening.

:02:30. > :02:35.Jackie Lockhart, former world champion and multiple European --

:02:36. > :02:38.Olympian, sitting next to me. We have a good atmosphere and we are

:02:39. > :02:42.hoping for something similar tonight. It couldn't have been a

:02:43. > :02:46.better start for Dave Murdoch. He had a fantastic start this morning.

:02:47. > :02:50.It was against the home nation and there was a big crowd in. That

:02:51. > :02:54.didn't put him off at all. This game is going to be the test for Dave, to

:02:55. > :02:57.see if the team have settled and if they are going to play well. This

:02:58. > :03:04.will be a close game, I'm sure of it. The boys are pretty calm. They

:03:05. > :03:08.spoke well after the game. They started really well and that is good

:03:09. > :03:13.for their confidence. The stats this morning, when they played, were 89%.

:03:14. > :03:18.Sweden this morning, when they played, where 85%. They are matched

:03:19. > :03:23.pretty closely and it is going to be who is going to be performing the

:03:24. > :03:30.last shot, when required. The man you saw there, the skipper of a very

:03:31. > :03:40.talented team. He is a bit of a character. He managed a double take

:03:41. > :03:47.out which turned the game around for them. For Britain, it was a match

:03:48. > :03:50.which pretty much went to script. Scott Andrews there. This young man

:03:51. > :03:56.played really well. These three did set things up nicely for Dave

:03:57. > :04:01.Murdoch, who shot 100%. He never put a foot wrong. He had one shot which

:04:02. > :04:06.you and I were... Was that perfectly marked? That would be incredibly

:04:07. > :04:09.harsh. They all played well indeed. They kept control of the match. The

:04:10. > :04:20.Russians didn't give it up. As always, it was Britain's. Not as

:04:21. > :04:26.difficult a start as the women have had but this much against Sweden,

:04:27. > :04:30.they've got tomorrow... Two matches for the women and one for the men.

:04:31. > :04:41.They alternate. It would be great to get off to two victories on his very

:04:42. > :04:45.first day. The British men... Some controversy, if you like, perhaps

:04:46. > :04:52.that is too strong a word, around the team that has ended up here. Tom

:04:53. > :04:57.Brewster, was quite -- was for quite a long time, the skipper. David

:04:58. > :05:05.Murdoch is more experience. He has been brought in to create this

:05:06. > :05:10.quartet. It now represents prison at the Olympics. We will talk more

:05:11. > :05:15.about that as the match goes on perhaps. If this morning was

:05:16. > :05:45.anything to go by, then the selection is so far so good.

:05:46. > :05:49.Britain have the hammer in this end. Michael Goodfellow is to set things

:05:50. > :06:01.off for Britain. David just after Michael Verdi take

:06:02. > :06:12.this stone out in a controlled way. It's just going to hang in there on

:06:13. > :06:26.the edge of the rings. He almost had the luxury of a couple

:06:27. > :06:30.of nice easy ends this morning, against Russia, just to get the feel

:06:31. > :06:33.for not just the ice but the stadium. They have been in here for

:06:34. > :06:36.a practice but it was the first time where they've been in with

:06:37. > :06:40.spectators. It was a pretty full house this morning. It's filling up

:06:41. > :06:46.nicely again this evening. Good atmosphere, particularly this

:06:47. > :06:51.afternoon. Lots of hollering. Mainly for the Russians academician Mark I

:06:52. > :07:00.think we are going to see ace -- a clean and simple end this end.

:07:01. > :07:20.Michael being asked once again just to remove the stone.

:07:21. > :07:25.It's interesting, we've been reading some of the quotes from the men's

:07:26. > :07:28.and women's matches this morning and this afternoon. There have been

:07:29. > :07:33.different reactions to conditions out there. Even some of the big

:07:34. > :07:39.names, Brad Jakes -- Brad Jacobs, didn't have a good game. He

:07:40. > :07:44.described it as ugly. David Murdoch had a cracking game. Brad Jacobs was

:07:45. > :07:48.struggling with his weight and wasn't getting the draw at all.

:07:49. > :07:53.David, however, was always going to love the ice. He had no complaints.

:07:54. > :08:04.It will be interesting to see how this game goes. The boys played on a

:08:05. > :08:09.this morning and sometimes the end sheets can play differently to the

:08:10. > :08:16.centre to sheets. What we do see is a nice consistent weight across all

:08:17. > :08:19.four sheets. And the guys are just playing in a nice, controlled way.

:08:20. > :08:21.Nothing too heavy. Something they can manage and control on their way

:08:22. > :08:30.down. Playing second, Fredrik Lindberg,

:08:31. > :08:59.from Karlstad. Out of the four, Scott Andrews might

:09:00. > :09:03.have looked slightly more nervous this morning but once he got going,

:09:04. > :09:09.he settled in nicely and played some good shots. Yes, he definitely had a

:09:10. > :09:16.better second half, rather than his first half. His parents are here and

:09:17. > :09:19.is -- his sister. That may add some pressure when you know your family

:09:20. > :09:29.are out there, rooting for you. Sebastian Kraupp. He is playing

:09:30. > :09:37.third. He is probably the newest member. He has been very successful

:09:38. > :09:42.in recent years. The last three world championship, Sweden finished

:09:43. > :09:46.in the medals. The disappointing European Championships in Stavanger.

:09:47. > :09:53.To win the worlds, it was the Brad Jacobs rink they beat last year. It

:09:54. > :10:14.was, and they will be facing him again this week.

:10:15. > :10:22.That was well held by the boys there. Curling fans will be well

:10:23. > :10:31.aware of what is going on. If this is new to you, sometimes, the first

:10:32. > :10:34.couple of ends allow people to get used to the conditions out there.

:10:35. > :10:39.When you have the last stone advantage, the key is to try and use

:10:40. > :10:47.it to the best you can. Try and score at least two. You will see

:10:48. > :10:56.them starting to set up guards and play different to what you see at

:10:57. > :11:02.the moment. This first end. This is giving everyone a chance to settle

:11:03. > :11:06.in to sweeping. It's been a good thing for the game to have the three

:11:07. > :11:11.guards Sonam brought into play. It forces a more aggressive game. When

:11:12. > :11:17.I was a junior, you put one shot in, one shot him, and over again will

:11:18. > :11:23.stop once this gets going, you can lay some shots out the front that

:11:24. > :11:27.cannot be touched, until the fourth rock is thrown, the fifth rock is

:11:28. > :11:29.thrown. That makes for a much better game, a more aggressive game. More

:11:30. > :11:43.stones in play. Niklas Edin. I suppose to some

:11:44. > :11:51.extent, despite the success the Swedish team have had, they've

:11:52. > :11:56.always been under the shadow of one player at's double Olympic success.

:11:57. > :11:59.I was reading something that had been said. He was asked about the

:12:00. > :12:04.pros and -- prominence of curling. He said yes, it's a big sport but is

:12:05. > :12:12.the women have the recognition. We need to innate medal. The men's team

:12:13. > :12:19.have won a world championship a few times but the elusive gold medal has

:12:20. > :12:24.passed them by. They've not won a medal until 1924. There was a hiatus

:12:25. > :12:31.when killing was not in the Olympics. Despite successes

:12:32. > :12:32.elsewhere, worlds, Europeans, they've never won an Olympic medal

:12:33. > :13:02.since that first one. there are lots of people coming in

:13:03. > :13:07.and it would be good if we can get a little bit of Russian success. Their

:13:08. > :13:08.women are certainly capable of getting into the last four, next

:13:09. > :13:26.week. The men, less so. That's a little bit unfortunate

:13:27. > :13:36.there. He wanted to hit an role there. We've got the hammer, you

:13:37. > :13:40.definitely want to be scoring a two. They will be a little bit

:13:41. > :13:51.disappointed with that. You can see a look of constant -- consternation

:13:52. > :14:01.on his face. That should have hit it right on the nose. It should have

:14:02. > :14:02.sat there. Britain leading but a little mistake there from Murdoch.

:14:03. > :14:27.That's the first one we've seen. Sweden have last stone advantage.

:14:28. > :15:00.Michael Goodfellow to play. It is going on further than they

:15:01. > :15:05.would have liked. Initially, he went to keep these shots high. -- you

:15:06. > :15:25.want. They've just asked for a corner card

:15:26. > :15:31.here. Sweden, of course, with the last stone and they're going to put

:15:32. > :15:40.a corner guard on. Hopefully, at some point, to swing another stone

:15:41. > :15:48.around in behind it. Dave's just asked Michael to put a centre guard

:15:49. > :16:05.on. He really needs to take cover of that.

:16:06. > :16:13.They've got to start to try to think two, three, four shots ahead. Try to

:16:14. > :16:18.build the end. They know each other's games so well. It's not as

:16:19. > :16:21.though they don't. They play so many competitions. They know each other's

:16:22. > :16:25.games very well and know the strengths and weaknesses. It must

:16:26. > :16:31.come into play. Yeah, without question. We heard David Murdoch at

:16:32. > :16:35.the press conference saying that they've got several game strategies

:16:36. > :16:37.and pull out the one they want to play against whichever team they're

:16:38. > :16:46.playing. It's going to come down to execution

:16:47. > :17:27.here. It should just come into shot just

:17:28. > :17:35.about now. Really doesn't want to go too heavy. That's a nice shot. We

:17:36. > :17:41.were talking watching the women this afternoon, there was a definite

:17:42. > :17:47.discrepancy as to how much late curl and swing there was. It will be

:17:48. > :17:51.interesting to watch. They were playing in the middle and you were

:17:52. > :17:55.saying that sometimes it's a little different. The girls felt they had

:17:56. > :17:58.to take a bit of ice, but it wasn't breaking until the very last minute

:17:59. > :18:01.and if they didn't catch it quick enough it swung and caught them out.

:18:02. > :18:10.From what I can see at the moment it just seems to be a nice swipe,

:18:11. > :18:17.although they are braking at last minute. Like this one. They do all

:18:18. > :18:24.the pulling from the home line in. There is Eva Lund, who is the coach

:18:25. > :18:31.of the men's team. A strong member of the women's team and now coaching

:18:32. > :18:38.the men's. She holds two Olympic gold medals.

:18:39. > :18:43.The boys were saying they like having a woman as their coach,

:18:44. > :18:48.because generally boys aren't so nice to one another and she brings a

:18:49. > :18:55.little bit of femininity to the team. That was her quote. I wrote it

:18:56. > :19:10.down. She said they care about others, unlike men. A bit harsh.

:19:11. > :19:15.Good for Eva. There is Soren Gran, the women's coach. No question marks

:19:16. > :19:18.about his allegiance in a match like this. I hope not. He's getting paid

:19:19. > :19:34.by us. Exactly! He was, actually, at one point the

:19:35. > :19:42.coach, but the coaches will travel all over the minute. If there's a

:19:43. > :20:02.job going, they'll move. They'll fulfil the roles they've taken on.

:20:03. > :20:06.Unfortunately, our yellow stone is just sitting behind the T line

:20:07. > :20:35.there. They are just going to come down

:20:36. > :20:39.here in an out-turn, just enough to bump the red and yellow to give a

:20:40. > :20:44.little separation, but they want to sit on the nose of the red stone.

:20:45. > :20:49.Greg was playing really well this morning and executing shots almost

:20:50. > :20:55.perfectly. He will be very happy with his performance. He got a 96%

:20:56. > :21:01.score this morning. He was playing really well.

:21:02. > :21:10.This is another nice shot here. It's from Greg. It's all about setting

:21:11. > :21:18.the stones up. They don't have to win. Or have all their shots

:21:19. > :21:22.counting first at the moment. Like we say, it's chess on ice and the

:21:23. > :21:24.strategy is they need to bring in the yellows here and at some point

:21:25. > :21:43.somebody will throw a big shot. We keep reiterating this. When you -

:21:44. > :21:48.the plan here is always going to be for Britain, when Sweden have the

:21:49. > :21:56.hammer here, to at least allow them one, possibly, the steal.

:21:57. > :22:02.Kraupp very, very good third for them. He used to skip his own team

:22:03. > :22:21.until he joined with this team at the back of 2009.

:22:22. > :22:30.Sebastian is from a family of curlers. His dead is the coach of

:22:31. > :22:38.the Russian yun juror -- junior ladies and his sister also plays. --

:22:39. > :22:43.his dad is the coach of the Russian junior ladies and his sister also

:22:44. > :22:47.plays. It's a common theme. It is. Lots of families. Lots of husbands,

:22:48. > :23:08.wives, brothers and sisters. Kraupp's brother is in Calgary

:23:09. > :23:21.training to be an ice maker. That yellow stone, I think the red

:23:22. > :23:28.stone may still be counting short at the back there. Close. I'm not sure.

:23:29. > :23:29.It's difficult to say from here. Yes, it is difficult to say from

:23:30. > :23:50.here. Those two stones sitting at the back

:23:51. > :23:56.are obviously the ones that the British yellow stone is closest to.

:23:57. > :24:18.It's the shot at the top, but the two could come into play.

:24:19. > :24:24.That didn't quite come off. Well, I'm not so sure. I think that's

:24:25. > :24:29.probably as good a shot as he was going to get. His main concern was

:24:30. > :24:37.that the stone he's throwing doesn't roll out the house and hangs across

:24:38. > :24:46.in the corner. Remember, these guys have the last stone here.

:24:47. > :24:54.David Murdoch with the one, two there, with the shot behind him in

:24:55. > :25:02.the first end. Remember how well he played this morning. I think he will

:25:03. > :25:07.be looking to lift the red stone beside the brush and the one sitting

:25:08. > :25:33.just where Greg is now. That's ended up in a good place. I

:25:34. > :25:43.think he's just come down to have a look and see it. They're checking

:25:44. > :25:45.the other British stone. It's really difficult to tell from here, isn't

:25:46. > :26:05.it? Edin known for his flamboyancy at

:26:06. > :26:13.times and he does like the big shots. He'll be requiring something

:26:14. > :26:15.here that - he created a really good shot this morning and it looked as

:26:16. > :26:50.if it was going Niklas just wants to come down here

:26:51. > :27:04.on the out-turn and to freeze it on to the top yellow stone. Two shots

:27:05. > :27:20.now? Yep. What are David's options here?

:27:21. > :27:56.Dave is hoping to take this shot out.

:27:57. > :28:14.Of course, Niklas does have to make the shot. It seems simple, but he

:28:15. > :28:15.has to hit and lie. It's pretaway straightforward. The other red don't

:28:16. > :28:30.on left as you look at it. A couple of inches close -- pretty

:28:31. > :28:32.straightforward. The other red is on the left as you look at it. A couple

:28:33. > :28:48.of inches closer. Nicely on-line. So, two to Sweden.

:28:49. > :28:54.Just checking, but it's fairly obvious to all, so they go into a

:28:55. > :29:04.2-1 lead. It's not a bad start for Britain. I think it was good in the

:29:05. > :29:09.second and now the hammer goes back to Britain.

:29:10. > :29:17.Quietish start. Fairly straightforward. Just a couple of

:29:18. > :29:22.shots going amiss. If you look and you've got the advantage of marking,

:29:23. > :29:31.at the moment Sweden, 100%, all four of them. The shots too. British

:29:32. > :29:33.fans, plenty of parents and family members who have come out to watch

:29:34. > :29:50.the curling. It's quite good. It seems there is a

:29:51. > :29:54.bit of an open policy on seating, that they've managed to get

:29:55. > :29:55.themselves around to the other side, but the draw was made a long time

:29:56. > :30:54.ago. Michael needs to be T high. He

:30:55. > :30:57.really doesn't want... This is nicely judged. The boys are just

:30:58. > :31:10.bringing it into set at the eight foot. A really good shot. Michael

:31:11. > :31:14.Goodfellow studied history at Strathclyde University. He is about

:31:15. > :31:28.to make his own history here. I was watching a you Tube clip

:31:29. > :31:38.explaining sweeping, which was very informative. -- You Tube.

:31:39. > :31:47.I mean the intricacies... He talked about the history and changes in

:31:48. > :31:54.brooms etc. Also how important it is. This... We spoke earlier about

:31:55. > :31:57.how much time the guys spend in the gym these days. At the pinnacle of

:31:58. > :32:08.the game, fitness is required. It is quite noisy in here, when

:32:09. > :32:28.Russia score some points. Michael was a little tight there and

:32:29. > :32:34.he caught the guards. It could be difficult for the boys to hear each

:32:35. > :32:40.other one -- when the Russian crowd starts to get going. They may start

:32:41. > :32:41.to use hand signals. When the young lads scoring here, the crowd is

:32:42. > :32:57.going wild. Back to the game in hand. Great

:32:58. > :33:02.Britain versus Sweden. And the hammer will be with Great Britain,

:33:03. > :33:14.the last stone advantage for this end.

:33:15. > :33:27.The big competitions they play in Canada, its professional home. They

:33:28. > :33:32.get big crowds. This sort of atmosphere must be generated. They

:33:33. > :33:37.must be used to it. Most curlers here travel to Canada to play. This

:33:38. > :33:41.is a very small crowd in comparison with some of the Canadian venues.

:33:42. > :33:50.Yeah, they will be used to it. What is different about this ice rink is

:33:51. > :33:55.it is quite small and the noise is heard by everyone. Generally, in

:33:56. > :33:59.these big arenas, you can make a lot of noise but on the ice, you can

:34:00. > :34:11.hear each other. You can hear the calls being made.

:34:12. > :34:24.Another good shot from Fredrik Lindberg.

:34:25. > :34:58.Scott Andrews from Irving, on the Ayrshire coast.

:34:59. > :35:04.You can see the clock on the background. If all of this is new to

:35:05. > :35:11.you, each team has 73 minutes to play all of its shots in the match.

:35:12. > :35:17.The clock starts when the stone comes to rest from the opposing

:35:18. > :35:23.team. It's your turn to play, if you like. That is why we tend to, in the

:35:24. > :35:30.first few ends certainly, the play is a little bit quicker. As you

:35:31. > :35:33.start to get the business end of the match, there is more discussion. You

:35:34. > :35:40.want to have some time in hand, don't you, in case you have

:35:41. > :35:45.situations you need to think about. Yeah. Roughly, and end will take

:35:46. > :35:54.each team about seven and a half minutes to play. When... Cox were

:35:55. > :36:01.brought into prevent slow play. It's to keep the game going. You will

:36:02. > :36:05.lose the game, as well, if you run out of time. There have been games

:36:06. > :36:07.which have gone to the wire and maybe 30 seconds or ten seconds left

:36:08. > :36:25.to play. So, with Sebastian Kraupp playing

:36:26. > :36:37.his shot, that allowed us to... No doubt we will end up being a blank.

:36:38. > :36:44.It already goes back to Michael Goodfellow inadvertently taking that

:36:45. > :36:49.guard away. Yeah. Even as early as the lead play, making a tiny

:36:50. > :36:56.mistake, not even much of a mistake, it will alter the game's path. These

:36:57. > :37:02.boys will just hit these stones in and out, run it through and take

:37:03. > :37:28.their last stone advantage into what will be end for. -- four.

:37:29. > :37:34.The Russian men have only been allowed into the competition because

:37:35. > :37:46.they are host nation. All the other teams have garnered points in

:37:47. > :37:49.qualifying competitions. It was the USA who came to the extra

:37:50. > :37:59.qualifying, addition, held in December. The Russian men, you could

:38:00. > :38:02.argue, would have been expecting to struggle to win. But I think Denmark

:38:03. > :38:15.would have been one they would have targeted. So far, so good for them.

:38:16. > :38:23.We just need Dave Murdoch not to make the same mistake that he did in

:38:24. > :38:34.the first end here. The intention had to been -- had been to blank the

:38:35. > :38:35.first ten. There was a slight this calculation and it stayed in the

:38:36. > :39:35.house, after knocking a stone out. Successful execution, that time. So,

:39:36. > :39:39.the third end, blanket and Britain retained the hammer going into the

:39:40. > :40:20.fourth. Sweden will take the lead, 2-1.

:40:21. > :40:30.Just a quick break from the curling, to take you to the biathlon centre.

:40:31. > :40:35.A Norwegian athlete was going for his 15th medal and he finished in

:40:36. > :40:39.fourth place. No 13th medal for him. He will have a few more attempts

:40:40. > :40:46.over the next few days. On the red button at the moment, speed

:40:47. > :40:50.skating, the 500 metres. We also have Luge, the women's first two

:40:51. > :41:03.runs today. Also, ice hockey. Finland against Canada.

:41:04. > :41:20.The first stone from Viktor Kjall in this first end. Michael Goodfellow,

:41:21. > :41:27.his stats you can see there. They dropped a bit after that errant shot

:41:28. > :42:29.in the previous end. He did pretty well this morning.

:42:30. > :42:34.Murdoch just asking for Goodfellow to hit and role in behind his own

:42:35. > :42:49.guard. He is playing a canny barrier wait

:42:50. > :43:01.there, so he can retain his shot that he is playing, as a shooter in

:43:02. > :43:31.the house. -- weight. That is a good effort.

:43:32. > :43:40.We were talking earlier about stats in all sports which no give you the

:43:41. > :43:45.full picture. You can have easy shots to play and come up with the

:43:46. > :43:48.100%. Others may have more risk, more difficult shots, and look as

:43:49. > :43:56.though they are not doing very well. The early stages.

:43:57. > :44:05.I think Fredrik Lindberg would have preferred that stone to roll into

:44:06. > :44:09.the centre little bit there. This has now given us the opportunity to

:44:10. > :44:18.come in behind this and use it as a cover.

:44:19. > :44:32.The boys need to keep this stone going.

:44:33. > :44:41.That was a nice try. We are into the fourth end and there have been a lot

:44:42. > :44:48.of decent shots but they have not quite been delivering on both sides.

:44:49. > :44:53.There hasn't been anything to disastrous but it's been a bit

:44:54. > :44:57.cagey. We have not seen some of the breaks that the girls saw this

:44:58. > :45:10.morning, when the stone really takes a big pool. And there we go. We've

:45:11. > :45:17.just seen the first real mistake and that is the first time Fredrik

:45:18. > :45:25.Lindberg has not delivered. That's going back to what I said before. He

:45:26. > :45:37.is trying... He was making a mistake. He needs an on-the-nose

:45:38. > :45:47.shot. Whatever the result is, we do need

:45:48. > :45:52.this yellow stone to stay in the house.

:45:53. > :45:59.That wasn't the desired shot, either. Hanging in there, just,

:46:00. > :46:33.though. Two of them in there. Now, the final one.

:46:34. > :46:40.A bit of discussion there with the boys, just before Sebastian plays.

:46:41. > :47:07.That's good, he's asking weight and line.

:47:08. > :47:16.He wasn't trying to take them both out there. I think - Slightly

:47:17. > :47:20.disconsulate with his shot. I think he's trying to hit the red beside

:47:21. > :47:24.his broom and roll acoG on to the face of the -- across on to the face

:47:25. > :47:27.of the other one. I think it might jam on the yellow on the other side.

:47:28. > :47:33.Intense look of concentration on the face of Greg Drummond.

:47:34. > :47:45.Again, we see the eight-foot lines. If you just give it a little too

:47:46. > :47:47.much handle they don't take any turn at all. That's a slightly

:47:48. > :48:14.disappointing shot there for Greg. The GB yellow stone at the back of

:48:15. > :48:21.the house there, will be well hidden. He's been asked to play hack

:48:22. > :48:31.weight. He's got plenty of room to come

:48:32. > :48:53.around. It's well hidden. Spot on. Nice shot. Yeah. They're

:48:54. > :49:01.just not quite - there's been one shot on each end that hasn't quite

:49:02. > :49:05.set it up for more dock. -- Murdoch. Very much so. The weight is crucial

:49:06. > :49:09.on this ice. We have already spoken about that earlier today. Even after

:49:10. > :49:17.match practice, they were saying how crucial it would be to lay the stone

:49:18. > :49:22.at the right weight that was asked. If you've never tried this sport, it

:49:23. > :49:30.is really really difficult to get across to you how the finesse and

:49:31. > :49:40.difference in the stone stopping two foot short or two foot past. It's

:49:41. > :49:45.obviously the touch and feel and it almost becomes second nature for

:49:46. > :49:55.people like Jackie, but it's a sport of tiny, tiny margins. That was a

:49:56. > :50:05.nice attempt there from Greg. Unfortunately, there was space

:50:06. > :50:11.between the yellow and the red. That gives Niklas the chance to come down

:50:12. > :50:17.at a same laR way -- similar way to Sebastian to tackle it and angle it

:50:18. > :50:23.threw. -- through. He will still be hoping to lie two shots himself.

:50:24. > :50:33.I'm always amazed to see young man curling. He's had two major back

:50:34. > :50:39.operations. He had something wrong with the discs and a lot of pain, so

:50:40. > :50:48.it's nice to see him back on the ice. 2010 and then it recurred again

:50:49. > :50:51.in 2012. A slight mistake there from Niklas. We keep talking about his

:50:52. > :51:12.bad back. Yeah! Sweden still like the one shot, but

:51:13. > :51:19.that wasn't the shot he was looking for. Dave will be hoping to come up

:51:20. > :51:41.and tap that one. They've got the corner guard there,

:51:42. > :51:46.sitting there, helping his case. When you get those little mistakes

:51:47. > :51:49.from the likes of Edin, I think at this level you have to take

:51:50. > :51:56.advantage, don't you, because they won't happen too often? No, this is

:51:57. > :52:05.where we have got the last stone here. We have to make the shots if

:52:06. > :52:10.we want to count the two. You heard David saying there, "They've taken

:52:11. > :52:12.plenty of ice." They have to believe it's going to break. If you pull too

:52:13. > :52:21.much with the down weights. That's a well-executed shot. Very

:52:22. > :52:51.good. Perfect weight. That puts Niklas under a bit of

:52:52. > :52:55.pressure here. Again, I think he's just going to follow that down once

:52:56. > :53:35.again. It's a good shot. A nice shot.

:53:36. > :53:47.Again, that's a lovely shot. We have seeing one good shot after another

:53:48. > :53:48.at the moment. -- we are seeing won good shot after another at the

:53:49. > :54:08.moment. That shot is pretty much welded on

:54:09. > :54:53.there. Straightforward draw for Murdoch

:54:54. > :54:58.there to take the one. Just for one moment it liked there might be an

:54:59. > :55:04.opportunity to get two, but Edin with excellent last shot, just

:55:05. > :55:09.closing the door. So, we are tied up at two, after four ends. It's been a

:55:10. > :55:20.pretty even game, to be honest. It's probably a fair reflection. The

:55:21. > :55:23.hammer now transfers to Sweden. I think the British team would be

:55:24. > :55:26.reasonably content. It was just that first mistake from Murdoch, which

:55:27. > :55:37.saw them take the one when they were looking to plank the end, but since

:55:38. > :55:44.then it's been pretty even Stevens. Mafs going on elsewhere around here

:55:45. > :55:49.in. -- matches going on elsewhere around here. In the Canada and

:55:50. > :55:56.Switzerland game still no scores. The Canadians came here full of

:55:57. > :56:00.bravado and without being too bombastic they were playing up to

:56:01. > :56:05.their role as pretournament favourites. Russia have been pegged

:56:06. > :56:09.back a little bit 5-2, against Denmark. Norway have jumped out to a

:56:10. > :56:19.5-1 lead against the United States. Sweden with the hammer now.

:56:20. > :56:37.Goodfellow. He's put the guard in place.

:56:38. > :56:40.Probably just a little bit higher than they were hoping for, but you

:56:41. > :56:44.can hear the boys saying it was tight and it was overcurling. You

:56:45. > :56:46.don't want to take it off from the centre line, because it's the centre

:56:47. > :57:05.line that you're trying to guard. Lindberg just watching this one. It

:57:06. > :57:10.looks pretty good. He's trying to help it in, to turn in. Just a

:57:11. > :57:12.little short. As Jackie's been pointing out, better there than

:57:13. > :57:37.long. Didn't quite tuck in. If Britain were to win this match

:57:38. > :57:41.and we are looking a long way ahead in terms of this evening, if they

:57:42. > :57:45.were, it would be a fabulous start. There is a lot of talk about how

:57:46. > :57:49.they could we form and it almost seems that within the British

:57:50. > :57:54.contingent back home that there's been a little bit more - they're not

:57:55. > :57:57.as confident, but when you read some of the journalists from around the

:57:58. > :58:04.world, they are tipping Britain's men to have chances. Is it some with

:58:05. > :58:08.in the middle? Definitely. Dave's got a reputation of not always

:58:09. > :58:13.starting strongly in competitions and generally pulls through at the

:58:14. > :58:20.end. If he has two wins under his belt after two he'll be very

:58:21. > :58:23.pleased. He doesn't seem to be phased by anything that goes on

:58:24. > :58:37.around about him. He's here and he's got his own game to play. Some

:58:38. > :58:42.points to prove, I guess. Oh, yes, the disappointment of Turin and van

:58:43. > :58:57.cure and something which I'm sure he gets fed up reading about. --

:58:58. > :59:02.Vancouver and something which I'm sure he gets fed up reading about.

:59:03. > :59:08.He will be judged about winning a medal at the Olympics. Very much so.

:59:09. > :59:11.David holds two World Championship titles, but you can ask any of the

:59:12. > :59:13.curlers what medal they would want and they want that gold Olympic

:59:14. > :59:22.medal. I guess with that, comes the

:59:23. > :59:31.publicity and the stardom that wow get with it, but it also raises the

:59:32. > :59:38.profile of your sport as well. A little mistake there from Scott. A

:59:39. > :59:43.disappointing little one. Similar line where we had a mistake in the

:59:44. > :59:52.last end going down there. Albeit, I think it was from Michael rather

:59:53. > :00:15.than Scott. They'll just have to watch what ice they're taking there.

:00:16. > :00:23.He is going to move the red Seas got in the house, Niklas Edin, because

:00:24. > :00:32.then they would be well spaced out. -- the red is he's got in the house.

:00:33. > :00:38.These guys spend a lot of time in Canada, competing, training, the

:00:39. > :00:44.rest of it. A couple of them have got Canadian slash American

:00:45. > :00:49.partners. Certainly, this team are about as well known in Canada as any

:00:50. > :00:53.of the foreign teams. Without question. These guys have been

:00:54. > :01:07.together for quite a few years. They know each other inside out. And that

:01:08. > :01:17.is good for them. It means somebody -- if somebody is having a bad day,

:01:18. > :01:21.they will know how to handle it. That is the sacrifices these teams

:01:22. > :01:27.make nowadays. They are prepared to live abroad, a lot of the time

:01:28. > :01:29.because that is where the best competitions are. They will do the

:01:30. > :01:34.circuit. It's got competitions are. They will do the

:01:35. > :01:37.though, most boy bands break up after a couple of years on the road

:01:38. > :01:41.together. Living in each other's pockets. You are living with each

:01:42. > :01:48.other, spending a lot of spare time together if you are away from home.

:01:49. > :01:50.There is generally only one member of the boy band which leaves though,

:01:51. > :02:25.and they can always be replaced! Now, Niklas Edin is having to make a

:02:26. > :02:30.decision about these yellows. I think that yellow in the front is

:02:31. > :02:36.dangerous to him. He has plenty of room to split that through the

:02:37. > :02:40.middle, as he has indicated there. He wants to be lying three shots and

:02:41. > :02:45.if he hits that on the nose, the yellow in the wing would be lying in

:02:46. > :03:07.third place and not the red that they have just played.

:03:08. > :03:25.Not quite the result he wanted but not bad.

:03:26. > :03:31.A lot of noise being generated, as the Russians take another point.

:03:32. > :03:33.There is a good atmosphere had its good there are so many people in

:03:34. > :04:08.here. It's just got past there. The result

:04:09. > :04:18.was not too bad in the end, was it? It just squeezed past.

:04:19. > :04:28.Well swept, the boys. I think they should maybe have kept on sweeping

:04:29. > :04:33.there. It didn't roll enough to sit in the face of the other red. It is

:04:34. > :04:38.still out in no man's land there, so it will be easy for Niklas Edin

:04:39. > :05:19.2-hit. -- to hit. These two players work well

:05:20. > :05:26.together. Yeah, nice. A lovely shot. Very good. I always think these guys

:05:27. > :05:45.are very animated when they play. We are in a little bit of trouble

:05:46. > :05:46.here, especially as we don't have the hammer. You heard Dave there

:05:47. > :05:57.saying, this is killing us. He really wants to try and get rid

:05:58. > :07:01.of too bit it is difficult. -- two. That really didn't pull as much as

:07:02. > :07:11.they thought it was going to pull. It's given Niklas Edin the chance to

:07:12. > :07:23.draw one in behind, where it was a centre yellow God. -- guard. This is

:07:24. > :07:39.where he is capable of taking advantage.

:07:40. > :07:45.You get ends like this. There was one this morning. It turns on one

:07:46. > :07:51.end. They struggled early on, Sweden, and then a big shot from

:07:52. > :07:58.Niklas Edin. It was plain sailing after that.

:07:59. > :08:08.This game is quite often seen as a game of patience.

:08:09. > :08:19.They are just leaving it. It may break now but it's... It needs to

:08:20. > :08:36.stop. Leave some space between. This is a tough match for Dave

:08:37. > :08:43.Murdoch against the Swedes. Clare Balding is up next but as for me and

:08:44. > :08:45.my stint, the highlight has been in the Iceberg Skating Palace, where

:08:46. > :08:50.Jack Welbourne became the first British man to do make the final of

:08:51. > :08:55.the 1500 metres. Stay tuned for Clare Balding. Goodbye.
