:00:42. > :00:49.Good afternoon and welcome back to Sochi for our coverage of the Winter
:00:50. > :00:54.Olympics. It is shirtsleeved order today. My cameraman has got his
:00:55. > :01:01.shorts. A beautiful view of the mountains. But I have two say the
:01:02. > :01:04.snowline is a little bit higher than it has been because of the
:01:05. > :01:12.temperature. It is causing difficulty up there. Half a million
:01:13. > :01:24.cubic metres of snow has proved absolutely crucial. No such problems
:01:25. > :01:34.down here. The Iceberg Skating Palace. The Adler in. Speed skating.
:01:35. > :01:40.Hello! Charlene Davis, the American, hoping to make history. If you have
:01:41. > :01:43.been watching on BBC Two, you will know that Britain's women in the
:01:44. > :01:50.Carling are against Canada in a very tense match. Without any further
:01:51. > :01:52.adieu, let's go to Steve Cram and Jackie Lockhart to see how they are
:01:53. > :02:01.doing. It is a match which was pretty even
:02:02. > :02:07.until the fifth end, then Canada jumped to a 6-3 lead. It could have
:02:08. > :02:12.gone either way. It was a big shot from the tin avian skip. It has
:02:13. > :02:18.changed the demeanour, not only of the British team but of this whole
:02:19. > :02:22.match. Canada were always going to be difficult. They are one of the
:02:23. > :02:28.big teams. Britain have been playing reasonably well. Holding their own.
:02:29. > :02:35.But that was a big shot from Jennifer Jones. Anna Sloan with
:02:36. > :02:46.Britain's third. Trying to give even the opportunity to strike back.
:02:47. > :02:50.Canada have got two in the house. For Eve Muirhead it is so important
:02:51. > :02:54.that when they do have the hammer, they take the opportunity to get a
:02:55. > :03:08.couple back. One will not really be good enough at this stage. We saw
:03:09. > :03:16.the girls earlier trying to put up some short guards. But the Canadians
:03:17. > :03:21.were just peeling them off. He is elected to try the head and roll --
:03:22. > :03:35.the hits and roll. Eve Muirhead still electing to
:03:36. > :03:43.forget about the threes and try to do the, round. -- the come around.
:03:44. > :03:49.And that will be the right shot if you make the shot. Pretty difficult
:03:50. > :03:56.because there is not a lot of rings to play with on the edge. They need
:03:57. > :04:00.to start nailing their shots. It has been close and they have been pretty
:04:01. > :04:05.good but they have to get these stones in the right position. For
:04:06. > :04:12.Anna Sloan, trying to talk in behind that Canadian red. They have done
:04:13. > :04:21.all the hard work, all the preparation. The game should follow.
:04:22. > :04:32.This is not going to get the cover they are looking for. Still sitting
:04:33. > :04:36.at the back of the house. It is a little deep. It is providing a
:04:37. > :04:45.target. We know how well Jones has been playing. I say well, by her
:04:46. > :04:51.high standards she has missed a few. When an opportunity arises, you have
:04:52. > :05:01.to take full advantage. Forget about the shots you have made before but
:05:02. > :05:08.have not gone very well. Anna's shot must have finished quite well at the
:05:09. > :05:15.end. Jennifer caught the guard earlier. She is asking to freeze
:05:16. > :05:45.this stone. Breaking off the line. Take all of
:05:46. > :05:56.its curled at the end. -- coral. That looked a bit heavy. It did not
:05:57. > :06:01.freeze. That is pretty good. Yes. It has punched the yellow a little bit
:06:02. > :06:06.back. It will not be easily removed. Eve Muirhead will want to follow
:06:07. > :06:14.that shot up and sit just on top of it. She probably will not make the
:06:15. > :06:19.shot sitting on top of this one. They just need to make sure they get
:06:20. > :06:37.a shot in the house and they get in -- a mistake from Canada.
:06:38. > :06:51.Crucial to live the shot here. -- to live a shot.
:06:52. > :07:01.This is looking pretty good at the moment. Just need to get it there
:07:02. > :07:08.with the weight. That is a lovely shot from Eve Muirhead. Well judged
:07:09. > :07:17.by the team. Well controlled. Jones is having a look. She has accepted
:07:18. > :07:18.it. There is not much in it. Eve Muirhead will come and check
:07:19. > :07:37.herself. She will just want to tap this a
:07:38. > :07:50.little further back. Canada will be lying two -- to.
:07:51. > :07:58.You were on about errors. Great Britain, Eve Muirhead, will be
:07:59. > :08:04.having her fingers crossed that Jennifer Jones makes a little
:08:05. > :08:10.mistake, as she has done on a couple of drawers. Unfortunately though,
:08:11. > :08:17.she has been reinvigorated by that shot she played at the end of the
:08:18. > :08:37.fifth. This is holding on to its line. It is coming around. Yes. She
:08:38. > :08:42.wasn't sure for a while. It has not left us an easy double. Eve Muirhead
:08:43. > :08:49.is looking at the double. It is where that second red is going to
:08:50. > :09:01.go. It may crash onto the pack that we see in the corner. What she
:09:02. > :09:14.wouldn't want to do this freeze that other red between the two yellows.
:09:15. > :09:23.If she feels it is possible, this is the shot to go for. You don't want
:09:24. > :09:27.to give up any shots here. These are the shots that Eve Muirhead normally
:09:28. > :09:39.likes to play. If she is on the top of her game, she will take this on.
:09:40. > :09:44.We may be able to come across the face of the red on the left-hand
:09:45. > :09:48.side and pump it back. A big shot here for Eve Muirhead. Trying to
:09:49. > :09:54.take the two here to get Britain back in this match. If it doesn't go
:09:55. > :10:05.well, it will make things very difficult indeed. Not sure about the
:10:06. > :10:11.line. She is shouting. What a great shot! Great shot from Eve Muirhead.
:10:12. > :10:17.That is more like it. That will make her feel much better. A good two
:10:18. > :10:23.there. A difficult shot. Look at the smiles all over the British team.
:10:24. > :10:33.Vicki Adams and Eve Muirhead know how important that was. They close
:10:34. > :10:37.the gap after six ends. Wonderful shot there. It is a shot that Eve
:10:38. > :10:46.Muirhead enjoys playing. It was interesting to hear Eve shouting.
:10:47. > :10:48.Great communication. They listened to the vice skipper, who was in the
:10:49. > :11:09.head. A crucial end of Great Britain puts
:11:10. > :11:13.them right back in it. After that fifth where Canada took three. Eve
:11:14. > :11:22.Muirhead responding in exactly the sort of fashion she needed to. Still
:11:23. > :11:31.all to play for. Four ends to go. Canada with the hammer. The plan
:11:32. > :11:39.here would be to restrict them to warn at worst. The way it is going
:11:40. > :11:48.up the minutes, Britain will have the hammer in the last end. Going
:11:49. > :11:54.into the last end one day would not be a disastrous position at all. No.
:11:55. > :11:56.Would not be a disastrous position. It is always nice to have the hammer
:11:57. > :12:14.on the last end. Dawn McEwen... Statistically she is
:12:15. > :12:18.playing the best for her team. She is not really playing some of the
:12:19. > :12:26.big shots. She has had some nice drawers and putting the guards in
:12:27. > :12:30.place. She has played her part. Jennifer would prefer to see her hit
:12:31. > :13:07.that shot and roll across the others I the house. -- in the house.
:13:08. > :13:14.While early shots are being played on this end, just bring you
:13:15. > :13:23.up-to-date with the other matters. It is tied between USA and China.
:13:24. > :13:30.Sweden, who beat Britain, they have turned things around in their match
:13:31. > :13:39.against Korea. Russia are watching their team get beaten at the moment
:13:40. > :13:50.by Japan. Trailing 4-2. That is running as well. Just going to hang
:13:51. > :13:57.on at the back. A little bit fortunate for Don. -- Dawn McEwen.
:13:58. > :14:01.If there is anybody out there watching the calling just now and
:14:02. > :14:10.thinks they would like to have a go, can I suggest you go to the curling
:14:11. > :14:15.website. Lots of insight in there. Equipment, how the game is played.
:14:16. > :14:22.And if you want to have a try, there are even dates available all over
:14:23. > :14:29.Scotland, England and Wales. Even in Ireland they have got curling. And
:14:30. > :14:35.don't forget, if you want to let us know where you are watching, any
:14:36. > :14:42.questions you may have as well, get in touch. I know how it can draw
:14:43. > :14:52.people in if you are watching at work. We promise we will not tell!
:14:53. > :15:01.It is a sport which every four years grows in audience. You can see why.
:15:02. > :15:05.It has got all of those elements of the simplicity of a sport where you
:15:06. > :15:10.can understand the scoring. The intricacies and the strategies are
:15:11. > :15:19.well hidden. The finesse, the finite skill which these curlers display.
:15:20. > :15:24.They certainly make it look easy and I am sure if anyone at home has had
:15:25. > :15:34.a go, they could confirm that. I have and I can! Did you look like a
:15:35. > :15:39.giraffe on ice? Not even as elegant as that. Yes, this really is a game
:15:40. > :15:44.of chess on ice, it has been said many times. He may not always find
:15:45. > :15:55.the shots are being driven right into the centre of the house like
:15:56. > :15:58.that on their -- you may not. From the Canadians, you can use it as a
:15:59. > :16:10.guard to come behind, some protection. Jill Officer, that is
:16:11. > :16:16.her second stone. Just catches it. She has had a bit of bother coming
:16:17. > :16:22.down. Coming down the centre, on occasion. Yes, the centre lie on
:16:23. > :16:27.this sheet of ice looks pretty tricky. If you turn it out at all,
:16:28. > :16:33.you will get no movement. If you turn it in, it goes right across the
:16:34. > :16:40.line. It is a very delicate sport, and it is all in the release of your
:16:41. > :17:00.handle. Talking about in-turns and out-turns, and that is left-handed.
:17:01. > :17:09.-- Anna Sloan. This is her out turn, it would be a right-hander's
:17:10. > :17:17.in-turn. Trying to come around the house, give some protection. Take it
:17:18. > :17:23.as far as they can into the blue of the rings. Well swept.
:17:24. > :17:28.Yes, didn't start as well as she would have liked, Anna Sloan, but
:17:29. > :17:38.she has been improving. And I think that team ethic, as
:17:39. > :17:45.well, we have talked about the sport, but it is so important that
:17:46. > :17:50.the four gel together and that they understand each other's
:17:51. > :17:57.personalities as well, not just their skill sets.
:17:58. > :18:07."Capnext kerb here, I have got something to tell you! -- come
:18:08. > :18:12.here." They can't hear each other when this crowd get going.
:18:13. > :18:21.They are hoping if they hit this top yellow that they can get a bit of
:18:22. > :18:41.backspin on the red to actually take the yellow out.
:18:42. > :18:51.Canada with the hammer and those stones out in front... Those stones
:18:52. > :18:56.are always going to be a little bit of an issue. Kaitlyn Lawes coming
:18:57. > :19:05.down as she plays this. There you go. Nicely done.
:19:06. > :19:33.It is just sat there, that British stone. It has stayed in play.
:19:34. > :19:44.Trying to hold this on this line but they are not going to. Eve was
:19:45. > :19:49.really hoping... That has actually turned out really well. A little
:19:50. > :19:53.bonus there. What she has done is taken out the double. It was looking
:19:54. > :20:01.for a while like Canada were going to get a two here. So what has
:20:02. > :20:07.turned out to be not the best throw in the world has come out as a great
:20:08. > :20:08.result. It actually hit the stone on the other side than she had
:20:09. > :20:28.intended. Just checking there, I think that
:20:29. > :20:36.other one is out, at about five o'clock as you look at the house. We
:20:37. > :20:44.are going to have a look. We were well wrong the last time. It is
:20:45. > :20:47.important. Obviously, anything coming up against that stone will
:20:48. > :20:52.land in the house, it is whether or not it is actually touching the
:20:53. > :20:57.line. You can ask for a measure, once the stones are all finished and
:20:58. > :21:14.play in the end has come to an end. Still very key that Eve hits some
:21:15. > :21:35.lights here. -- some lies here. Backers OK. They will come back to
:21:36. > :21:38.have another look at that stone, because this could be crucial.
:21:39. > :21:46.Giving away one is fine, doesn't want to give away two.
:21:47. > :22:01.I think it is aired. You can hear Anna Sloan. She thinks it is out. It
:22:02. > :22:12.is going to affect how you play, surely? If you think it is in, or
:22:13. > :22:18.out question -- in or out? She has to take this yellow anyway and hope
:22:19. > :22:22.it is in to score two points. Again, it might be the option when you say,
:22:23. > :22:27.do you know what, I don't think it is in and I am going to roll and
:22:28. > :22:32.take the hammer into the next end. I don't think any of them can really
:22:33. > :22:36.decide if it is in or not. From our camera viewpoint, it definitely
:22:37. > :22:37.looks ahead, but we thought one of the front guards was out earlier and
:22:38. > :22:48.it was in. Just to confirm the people
:22:49. > :22:53.watching... It is not the bottom of the stone. You can see white ice
:22:54. > :23:02.between the stone and a red ring. It is the edge of the stone. That has
:23:03. > :23:07.to be taken from an overhead view, obviously, but it can be measured
:23:08. > :23:10.from the centre. There is a tiny little hole in the centre of the
:23:11. > :23:20.black Olympic ring. You could hear the Canadians saying
:23:21. > :23:27.they have got to play the end as if they think it is in. It is going to
:23:28. > :23:37.be crucial, because even should take the set, set in the house
:23:38. > :23:40.hopefully... It looks OK. Jones will do the same, and then she will be
:23:41. > :23:50.hoping that the second stone is counting. The dilemma here is if it
:23:51. > :23:57.is counting, you want to score two and if it isn't, you may want to run
:23:58. > :24:08.this yellow and not score anything. I think it is in. It depends on how
:24:09. > :24:14.you look at it. This is one of those where you shut your left eye and
:24:15. > :24:18.look, then you shut your right eye... It is pointless, it is not
:24:19. > :24:24.their decision but it is affecting how she plays this shot. If they
:24:25. > :24:28.agree with each other that it is in... What you can't do is you can't
:24:29. > :24:30.measure the stone until the end has finished, so it is going to be down
:24:31. > :24:47.to the girls' own judgement. This is going to be really
:24:48. > :24:52.interesting. She is going to play it as if it is in, just hitting that
:24:53. > :24:59.British stone out and staying in the house. And that will count as
:25:00. > :25:01.obviously one, it is just a question of whether it is two shots for
:25:02. > :25:12.Canada here. And, of course, if she were to mess
:25:13. > :25:20.this shot up and end up with nothing, she will be hoping it is
:25:21. > :25:27.not in the house. Correct. This looks OK, though. So I think without
:25:28. > :25:34.question, there is going to be a measure. Yes. This is where the
:25:35. > :25:39.umpires in curling come into play. I have just seen the umpire walk
:25:40. > :25:43.across to get the measuring device. It is not a tape measure, it is a
:25:44. > :25:52.very highly calibrated device which will be inserted into the centre
:25:53. > :25:57.hole, and this could be really critical as far as the match is
:25:58. > :26:01.concerned. Yes. Because this is just a measure to see if it is actually
:26:02. > :26:09.in the rings. This is a 6-foot measure. It will swing by here and
:26:10. > :26:14.if it touches the stone it is in. It is out. Well, that is a
:26:15. > :26:20.miscalculation and a decision very much in Britain's favour. And it was
:26:21. > :26:27.out fairly comfortably... I say comfortably, probably at least five
:26:28. > :26:35.millimetres! You can't see from this angle, but there is no question.
:26:36. > :26:40.That is a mistake. And it means that Canada will just get the one.
:26:41. > :26:49.Well, well, well. A shake of the head from the Canadian skip. What
:26:50. > :26:53.she talked into that by her team-mates? Yes, and I think that
:26:54. > :26:56.might mess with her head because they didn't want to score one, they
:26:57. > :27:04.wanted to or more, otherwise she would have just peeled that yellow
:27:05. > :27:08.GB shot out. Let's see if the momentum changes in great Britain's
:27:09. > :27:12.favour in this end. We waited a little while for it to come up
:27:13. > :27:18.officially, just one shot to Canada. 7-5 they lead after seven
:27:19. > :27:23.ends, three to go. But if Britain play this well, and that is a big
:27:24. > :27:31."if those quote, every opportunity for Eve Muirhead and her team here.
:27:32. > :27:38.-- that is a big" if" . But there is the potential to score well here. So
:27:39. > :27:43.just a little bit of a break in the last two ends for Great Britain. A
:27:44. > :27:47.big shot by Eve Muirhead in the sixth to take two and a
:27:48. > :27:48.miscalculation by the Canadian skip resulting in just the one for her
:27:49. > :28:11.team. I think the point about that, it was
:28:12. > :28:16.a collective decision. I think all four of them convinced themselves it
:28:17. > :28:24.was in. I think they may be were hoping it was in, but that wasn't at
:28:25. > :28:26.all the result... It is one of the boards of Canada but not the result
:28:27. > :28:39.they wanted. -- one on the board. Let's see how they both respond to
:28:40. > :28:45.that. Great Britain with the hammer in this eighth end. The guard being
:28:46. > :28:53.put up by Claire Hamilton. A nice shot again.
:28:54. > :29:00.It has gone a little quiet in the Ice Cube today. Russia is struggling
:29:01. > :29:05.a little bit in their match against Japan, the Russian women. Certainly
:29:06. > :29:11.expected to do better than their men.
:29:12. > :29:18.You can see the comparisons between Claire Hamilton and Dawn McEwen.
:29:19. > :29:29.Dawn McEwen is doing very well in her position as lead. Another one
:29:30. > :29:35.right where they wanted. -- want it. We always thought this would be a
:29:36. > :29:39.close match, Jackie, and it was never going to be perfect shotmaking
:29:40. > :29:45.from both sides, but Great Britain, at least, we kept talking about just
:29:46. > :29:51.making sure you don't give them easy shots, don't give them easy
:29:52. > :29:55.scoring. Yes, this game has not disappointed. They are still very
:29:56. > :30:00.close. Potentially, after Jennifer Jones picked up a three, our heads
:30:01. > :30:03.could have gone down but well done to the girls, they have kept
:30:04. > :30:16.themselves in it and picked up a simple two and got right back in the
:30:17. > :30:27.game. That was a big shot that Eve played. When we're watching the big
:30:28. > :30:32.players, the well-known players... Eve Muirhead has a reputation around
:30:33. > :30:40.the world. She has built that up in recent years. They are there to make
:30:41. > :30:45.the big shots. We are seeing a couple of little errors coming in
:30:46. > :30:56.here from Canada. They didn't want to leave anything out at the front
:30:57. > :31:06.of the house. They have given us the opportunity to split this front.
:31:07. > :31:29.That's back this front yellow. -- this front yellow.
:31:30. > :31:46.Just didn't quite get enough there. That is a pity. It was nearly a very
:31:47. > :31:50.good shot. An inch or soul out. Yes, Eve said she threw that well. It did
:31:51. > :31:57.not take the coral they were expecting. -- the coral.
:31:58. > :32:08.Canada will remove this yellow. It will still leave us with the
:32:09. > :32:13.opportunity to utilise the front yellow at the front of the house. To
:32:14. > :32:22.try and create some space between our shots. Create hopefully an end
:32:23. > :32:54.that will score 82. -- it will score two. Vicki Adams will play the same
:32:55. > :32:58.shot. They should know the line. Working hard to hold that line. And
:32:59. > :33:22.it is a little light. That just shows you the difference
:33:23. > :33:26.in weight and line. How critical it is. That came a little bit too far.
:33:27. > :33:37.Did not get the road they were looking for. It is the two things
:33:38. > :33:51.together. It curled a little bit at the end. Like the one before.
:33:52. > :34:06.Kaitlyn Lawes is the one who started really well. That has turned around
:34:07. > :34:11.a little. That shot there was a little erratic from Kaitlyn Lawes.
:34:12. > :34:21.She almost jammed the GB stone onto the back red. Fortunate to get away
:34:22. > :34:33.with that. What is Eve going to ask Anna to do here? She wants and to
:34:34. > :34:38.hit this yellow shot in the house onto the red. She also wants to
:34:39. > :34:46.create some space. She wants to roll across to the other side of the
:34:47. > :34:51.house. We want this running shot to stay in the house. We don't want to
:34:52. > :34:59.lose it. That was a nice try. Just not enough space. It leaves Canada
:35:00. > :35:05.with the chance of a double. I think they should have been on that
:35:06. > :35:12.earlier. She laid that very well. We spoke about it earlier. Some of the
:35:13. > :35:22.breaks. They seem to hit a patch on the ice and finish big. That was
:35:23. > :35:27.nearly a very, very good shot. If that was a fraction finer they
:35:28. > :35:40.weren't looking at a double. The yellow where we see Jennifer's
:35:41. > :35:50.brush could potentially jam onto that red. I think given that it is
:35:51. > :35:55.Kaitlyn Lawes playing at the moment, she has just been looking a little
:35:56. > :36:10.bit out of sorts. You saw the look on her face a few minutes ago. So, a
:36:11. > :36:13.25-year-old... To try to give her skip something to work with here.
:36:14. > :36:24.That is coming straight down the centre line. Not the result she
:36:25. > :36:27.wanted. She called too much of the first yellow and it rolled across
:36:28. > :36:36.the face of the other yellow. It gives us the opportunity to sit one
:36:37. > :36:43.across on the other side. Straight up the end for a two. Acknowledged
:36:44. > :36:55.behind that front guard. -- it nudged. Another opportunity for
:36:56. > :36:56.Britain. A good shot from Anna will give Eve every chance of getting a
:36:57. > :37:20.two. Massive roar as going out. The
:37:21. > :37:31.Russians cheering. That was a good shot from Anna Sloan. The Russians
:37:32. > :37:35.enjoying their team trying to fight their way back into their match
:37:36. > :37:43.against Japan. But Great Britain just putting a bit of pressure on
:37:44. > :37:47.Canada now. Eve Muirhead working well with her team, picking the
:37:48. > :38:00.shots now. Anna Sloan performing well.
:38:01. > :38:08.She is going to come and try and freeze on that previous stone. This
:38:09. > :38:16.is a big shot for Jennifer Jones. She has attempted to freeze a couple
:38:17. > :38:24.of times. Hasn't come off. Both of them on the draw. 71% for Jennifer
:38:25. > :38:32.Jones, 75% for Eve Muirhead. The takeouts, Eve more successful. If
:38:33. > :38:36.Jennifer does not make this shot, there is a great possibility of us
:38:37. > :38:43.picking up a three at this end. Let's see how the freeze goes. The
:38:44. > :38:50.raw as she pushes off will not have helped either. I'm not sure her team
:38:51. > :38:58.can hear anything. She is having to come up close behind them. This
:38:59. > :39:04.looks very light, doesn't it? She will be happy to sit on top on the
:39:05. > :39:14.face of this. To make it hard for Eve. Actually, that is a very good
:39:15. > :39:18.stone. Eve will have two draw the forefoot. What it does do is prevent
:39:19. > :39:28.the possibility of us picking up a three year. -- here. Every good shot
:39:29. > :39:38.from Jones. She was a little bit concerned coming down. Sitting on
:39:39. > :39:45.that British stone. If it had been a little higher... Yes, we still have
:39:46. > :40:08.two shots from Eve to come. Only one from Canada.
:40:09. > :40:17.We have seen even practice this draw shot many times. -- Eve. Just
:40:18. > :40:36.drawing to the bottom. -- button. This needs to take a bit more of a
:40:37. > :40:45.poll. I think it will do. Yes, finish well at the end. That is very
:40:46. > :40:50.good from Eve Muirhead. Maybe three or four inches beyond the centre of
:40:51. > :41:09.that button. Just wanted to come round a little bit. That's not bad.
:41:10. > :41:18.Canada just debating whether they want to sit on the face of it. And
:41:19. > :41:35.maybe even just tap it back a touch. Asking for a time-out.
:41:36. > :41:42.When she says if she makes this freeze, it's almost as if she knows
:41:43. > :41:48.that is a shot but doesn't sound too confident about wanting to play it.
:41:49. > :42:01.What is the downside for? -- for her? She is worried that if she
:42:02. > :42:06.bounces off it at all, they may lose a three. She definitely does not
:42:07. > :42:11.want to do that. If she plays a freeze and moves the stone a few
:42:12. > :42:14.inches back and allows Eve to move her stone completely out, as you
:42:15. > :42:34.said, there is three shots. Again were going back to the old
:42:35. > :42:41.scenario. She has to go with your gut instinct. She has to be
:42:42. > :42:45.confident of what he is going to play. A couple of end is going to
:42:46. > :42:48.play. A couple of ends ago we were talking about how positive they had
:42:49. > :42:59.been. Now it is almost as if she is thinking negatively now. Yes, the
:43:00. > :43:04.momentum has definitely turned. She is going to try to come down in
:43:05. > :43:14.here. On that line. We will try to move that British stone. And she
:43:15. > :43:19.knows it is fairly straightforward for a Eve two, and shipped herself,
:43:20. > :43:21.accepting she may well lose the two. But she does not want to lose the
:43:22. > :43:44.three. Jones, her last stone of this eighth
:43:45. > :43:50.end. An important one. Already sweeping this. She doesn't want to
:43:51. > :44:01.catch stone on the way through. It is going to be tight. That is a
:44:02. > :44:05.lovely shot. It did not quite flopping as much as she would have
:44:06. > :44:09.liked. I think she got as much of a flop as she possibly could. There
:44:10. > :44:17.wasn't much space to get past the front guard. It was tight. I thought
:44:18. > :44:23.it may have just caught it. It still gives us the opportunity to come
:44:24. > :44:35.down there, tap that back and sit in for a two. Yes, a fairly similar
:44:36. > :44:41.shot for Eve Muirhead. Going to just follow this down here. Push that red
:44:42. > :44:52.back. Alt of the house. And hopefully remain in the forefront to
:44:53. > :44:57.score a two. A similar attack to the one she has just seen Jennifer Jones
:44:58. > :45:03.come down. She cannot afford to hit that. This is turning early, isn't
:45:04. > :45:14.it? This is turning early. They have to work harder.
:45:15. > :45:22.It isn't two, it is one. For a second, it looked like it would be a
:45:23. > :45:27.steal. Not the result they wanted, it is one. A good shot by Jones, put
:45:28. > :45:32.pressure on Eve Muirhead, just got the line wrong, despite the efforts
:45:33. > :45:38.of the sweepers. Couldn't get around that first Canadian stone, but it
:45:39. > :45:46.does roll in. Just hung on for the one. So it is a close game, 7-6,
:45:47. > :45:51.Canada lead at the end of the eighth and they will have the hammer in the
:45:52. > :45:55.next one. JONATHAN EDWARDS: It certainly is a
:45:56. > :46:00.close game and a captivating one, we will stay with that on BBC One. If
:46:01. > :46:03.you fancy a bit of snowboarding, halfpipe qualification, we saw the
:46:04. > :46:08.men yesterday, it is the women's today, it is live on the red button
:46:09. > :46:13.and also one of the HD streams online. Get the computer on your
:46:14. > :46:16.lap, watch the halfpipe and keep the curling on BBC One, where we will
:46:17. > :46:22.head straight back to two Steve and Jackie. This is really a humdinger.
:46:23. > :46:28.STEVE CRAM: It really is, and just a pity that Eve couldn't get a two,
:46:29. > :46:32.but that is the way this match has been played. There have been errors
:46:33. > :46:37.on both sides and great shots on both sides as well. That is why we
:46:38. > :46:42.have this tight game. But the advantage is very much with Canada,
:46:43. > :46:46.with two ends to go. They will want to score in this one. If they
:46:47. > :46:50.can't, the other option is to blank this end and they take that shot
:46:51. > :46:55.advantage with the hammer into the final end and that makes Britain's
:46:56. > :46:59.job very difficult. But we have seen both sides make mistakes and they
:47:00. > :47:04.have to try and force a mistake from Canada, maybe steal one here. Or
:47:05. > :47:13.certainly, at the worst, limited them to taking one shot and have the
:47:14. > :47:18.hammer back for the final end. Yes, Canada are going to try a shot that
:47:19. > :47:24.bumps the guard out of the way without removing it from play. She
:47:25. > :47:30.just missed it. But she wants to make sure she plays enough weight
:47:31. > :47:36.that it heads out of the house. They don't want any stones in the house.
:47:37. > :47:40.We talked about the free guard zone rule, where you cannot remove stones
:47:41. > :47:44.from play but you can tip them to the side and open up about four foot
:47:45. > :47:54.space for you to get your shot in for your last stone. Even asking
:47:55. > :48:02.Claire Hamilton to come around the front garden and sit at the top of
:48:03. > :48:08.the house -- Eve asking. Coming to help the sweepers bring it ran. They
:48:09. > :48:10.wanted to create as much space as possible between the top guard and
:48:11. > :48:28.the bottom one. That was well swept. There is a Mexican wave going
:48:29. > :48:37.around. Let's hope they get that out of their system. Yes, let's hope it
:48:38. > :48:40.is not distracting the girls down on the eyes. Although from past
:48:41. > :48:44.experience, I have to say that the girls then there will be in the
:48:45. > :48:48.zone. They don't normally see what is going on out in the audience.
:48:49. > :49:00.They may be hear it but they don't always pay attention to it.
:49:01. > :49:08.Vicky is being asked to follow that shot down. Out-turn draw, outturn
:49:09. > :49:22.being anticlockwise turn of the handle. -- out-turn. Which should
:49:23. > :49:39.take a turn to the left-hand side and a freeze on the shot. -- on the
:49:40. > :49:45.Canadian shot. Not finishing as they hoped. It could have been throwing
:49:46. > :50:00.just a touch too heavy a weight. If this does end up tied after ten,
:50:01. > :50:09.there is an extra end played. And to ends for Great Britain to try and
:50:10. > :50:12.turn this around. -- two ends. The advantage very much with Canada but
:50:13. > :50:17.when you get to the business end of the match, the nerves can have a
:50:18. > :50:18.part to play. Both teams are pretty experienced, but this is the Olympic
:50:19. > :50:34.Games. Jill Officer's shot didn't take the
:50:35. > :50:38.term that we anticipated either. What we may have to watch for here
:50:39. > :50:41.is that the ice conditions have changed and the curl is not there as
:50:42. > :50:53.much as it was earlier on in the game. Another out-turn. She will
:50:54. > :51:01.want to come right up to these stones. The girls are working this
:51:02. > :51:08.really hard they will really have two digging here. -- two
:51:09. > :51:23.. They did really well with their sweeping. You just see the lighter
:51:24. > :51:30.weight, how it takes a bigger curl. It is crucial that you lay the stone
:51:31. > :51:36.according to what the skip has asked you. And you can see how important
:51:37. > :51:46.the sweeping is but being able to do that to the level of ability that
:51:47. > :51:55.these women do... Decent shot. One Jill Officer's specialities. -- one
:51:56. > :51:56.of. Played second for many, many years, and very good at lifting
:51:57. > :52:22.these doubles. Keep putting them up there, keep
:52:23. > :52:23.making the shops, but as you said, getting critical now, has to be
:52:24. > :52:34.absolutely spot on. We would like this to be right on
:52:35. > :53:01.that centre line. That stone may be good and Paul as
:53:02. > :53:07.much as she anticipated, but it leaves her with a a dilemma -- it
:53:08. > :53:29.did not pull. Saying that he/she goes around the
:53:30. > :53:38.yellow at the top of the house, she will take that next yellow. --
:53:39. > :53:48.saying that if she. I think if she comes through this space, though,
:53:49. > :53:56.she will catch her back and -- red. You just don't see it in the house.
:53:57. > :54:08.Kaitlyn Lawes with a really tight shot, not much room. I am not sure
:54:09. > :54:14.she is happy. No, it is a good shot. Well left, well called. This
:54:15. > :54:21.certainly wasn't a lot of room to get through there. That is a good
:54:22. > :54:26.shot. It does still leave us with the opportunity to come around in
:54:27. > :54:35.behind them all and freeze on the back red. And even better shop --
:54:36. > :54:48.and an even better shot would be around the back foot T hi.
:54:49. > :55:06.Hamilton calling seven. That is a good shot from Anna Sloan.
:55:07. > :55:14.A tiny bit of panic in their voices there, but that is a wonderful shot.
:55:15. > :55:17.Even if Eve panicked a little bit with the line, the girls were
:55:18. > :55:25.calling the weight. It is all about the communication.
:55:26. > :56:00.Kaitlyn Lawes has two draw in again. -- has to. Maybe changing their
:56:01. > :56:06.minds. May try a double peel. When they work, they work really well,
:56:07. > :56:14.but you have to be slightly off -- only have to be slightly off.
:56:15. > :56:25.It just missed that there. Interesting, isn't it? I think
:56:26. > :56:30.Kaitlyn Lawes has been a little bit, literally, hit and miss with
:56:31. > :56:39.her shots. So good in the first couple of matches, almost matching
:56:40. > :56:44.Jennifer Jones. Eve Muirhead saying basically just thinking of replacing
:56:45. > :56:56.the stone that has just been taken out. Yes, the girls are just going
:56:57. > :57:01.to put on another guard here. Obviously, 7-6, Canada have the
:57:02. > :57:08.hammer, there is going to be a score in this end one way or another. The
:57:09. > :57:12.best that Eve can do, she has just got to make sure that this stone
:57:13. > :57:25.first of all puts Jones under as much pressure as you possibly can.
:57:26. > :57:35.Losing one would be okayed. Claire is going to sweep this as hard as
:57:36. > :57:43.she can, make sure there is not a whole there. As I was saying, losing
:57:44. > :57:48.one, you go into the final end two down with the hammer. Losing two
:57:49. > :57:57.would make life very difficult indeed.
:57:58. > :58:07.And if you are Jones, Jackie? Are you aggressive? Do you go for the
:58:08. > :58:14.two, accept that one? Jennifer is actually choosing to draw and come
:58:15. > :58:21.around here. If I was hurt, I might have tried to open up the front a
:58:22. > :58:34.little bit more -- if I was her. This is a big shot.
:58:35. > :58:52.So Jennifer Jones, the skip of this Canadian team, has been playing so
:58:53. > :58:53.well. Today, it is these sorts shot, a couple of them, not as good as the
:58:54. > :59:14.takeouts. This is crucial. Lane right off,
:59:15. > :59:17.this could be quite nice. -- laying right off. I think it is still
:59:18. > :59:25.yellow. She will come and see for herself.
:59:26. > :59:43.It was almost there. So what would you do here? Come and
:59:44. > :59:55.try and sit on top of that? Yes, she would like to come in as far as she
:59:56. > :00:05.can, probably in here, try and stop Jennifer from following her in.
:00:06. > :00:16.Jennifer still has an option on this red at the top of the house, but if
:00:17. > :00:28.Eve covers up this hole, she has got nothing on this site to follow. Even
:00:29. > :00:34.has to play this absolutely right. -- Eve. I think she wants to sit on
:00:35. > :00:42.this red stone. It is going to get there. An absolute cracker of a
:00:43. > :00:58.shot. That is going to be difficult to shift.
:00:59. > :01:07.It is at least making her play a big shot here. That is all she can keep
:01:08. > :01:20.doing. Eve played a nice one there. Is Jones up to it again? That was a
:01:21. > :01:26.big call by Jennifer. She just did not execute the shot she wanted to.
:01:27. > :01:42.Now she is in a lot of trouble. Eve played a fantastic shot. She gets
:01:43. > :01:49.this wrong... A possible steel year. -- a possible steel year. She will
:01:50. > :01:56.want the one. She is going to come down here, come across the face of
:01:57. > :02:10.that red. To hopefully pump it into the one foot. A delicate tap back.
:02:11. > :02:15.It is a big shot. It is a big shot. The last shot of the ninth end for
:02:16. > :02:21.Jones. A little bit of pressure. This needs to come through and
:02:22. > :02:28.tapped her own red back. -- tap. They are trying to hold this. That
:02:29. > :02:34.is a great shot. That is a very good shot under pressure, without
:02:35. > :02:42.question. Eve Muirhead as the question and she was very good
:02:43. > :02:48.there. The lead has been extended. But the point is Britain kept it to
:02:49. > :02:54.just the one. One more end to go. Great Britain with the hammer. Two
:02:55. > :02:59.at that end would tie things up after ten and we would have to go to
:03:00. > :03:03.an extra end. Well done to Eve Muirhead and her team. Not giving
:03:04. > :03:08.this up at all. Close match. It has been from the beginning. Some great
:03:09. > :03:16.shots being played. Yet another one from Jennifer Jones. Perfect weight.
:03:17. > :03:22.And you can see the relief for the Canadian skip. That could have gone
:03:23. > :03:30.horribly wrong. Yes. Sometimes when people are watching these -- they
:03:31. > :03:33.think these girls are cool and calm. But you saw the pressure that
:03:34. > :03:47.Jennifer was under. Come on, Great Britain. We have the hammer. Last
:03:48. > :04:02.stone advantage. The game plan will to try and take a two and go into an
:04:03. > :04:14.11th end, which is the extra end. I think the point about this match,
:04:15. > :04:19.Jackie, if they do lose, they have played well here. They have given
:04:20. > :04:24.them a real match. We saw how well Canada dominated Sweden yesterday.
:04:25. > :04:28.And it hasn't been that sort of match at all. They have forced the
:04:29. > :04:33.errors. They have capitalised when they have had the opportunities.
:04:34. > :04:37.Yes, they have made some errors themselves. But they did not let it
:04:38. > :04:43.affect them. They have kept themselves in this match with some
:04:44. > :04:46.good play. The girls knew they had a tough start to this competition.
:04:47. > :04:56.They played the European champions the other day and just lost. And
:04:57. > :05:02.again, Jennifer Jones... They have to take the positive. We have to
:05:03. > :05:07.finish in the top four to make the semifinals. The girls without
:05:08. > :05:12.question, this game is not over and it never is, until the last stone is
:05:13. > :05:14.played. They will have two completely remain positive at all
:05:15. > :05:29.times, which I am sure they have done. -- they will have to to remain
:05:30. > :05:35.positive. Eve just asking Claire to pay -- play a little tap on these,
:05:36. > :05:38.sit in front of them. She is trying to push some of the stones to the
:05:39. > :05:44.back half of the rings and use them as protection. To hopefully try and
:05:45. > :05:55.set up the possibility of scoring two or more. Claire has done really
:05:56. > :06:00.well. This one looks big. They needed to curl. Such a huge curl on
:06:01. > :06:24.this. Well done. That was a good shot. The other
:06:25. > :06:29.three matches are coming to their climax as well. It looks like Sweden
:06:30. > :06:32.are in control in their match against Korea. It is close between
:06:33. > :06:41.China and the USA. China are leading. Russia are up against and
:06:42. > :06:50.against Japan. Similar to Britain. Two down going into the 10th, with
:06:51. > :06:56.the hammer. So Britain, after three matches it would be, and three tough
:06:57. > :07:00.matches... We knew they would be tough. The match against the USA
:07:01. > :07:07.yesterday ended up being a 12-3 affair. It on -- it always had the
:07:08. > :07:13.potential to be a banana skin. But the matches against Sweden and
:07:14. > :07:27.Canada, there was always the likelihood he will end up with one
:07:28. > :07:34.win and a couple of losses. Round behind the cover. A yellow stone
:07:35. > :07:39.sitting out of the rings. All they can do here is just give Eve the
:07:40. > :07:45.chance, give her the opportunity at the end, to get a two. Anything else
:07:46. > :07:49.would be an incredible bonus. Of course, Canada will be doing exactly
:07:50. > :07:53.the opposite, trying to make sure that things do not develop that way.
:07:54. > :08:01.Trying to protect the position they are in. Jill Officer has been
:08:02. > :08:10.struggling with her draws so far today. Take-out a few occasions have
:08:11. > :08:13.been really good. On a couple of occasions she got her weight wrong.
:08:14. > :08:24.Coming down that centreline almost again. Needs to keep working this.
:08:25. > :08:32.She did not lay a lot of weight. It has come up short. She has struggled
:08:33. > :08:41.with her weights when she has been trying to draw them in on a few
:08:42. > :08:45.occasions. That definitely gives us an advantage here. That is a big
:08:46. > :09:03.mistake from Jill Officer. The leading girls talking out their
:09:04. > :09:07.game plan. Kaitlyn Lawes looks like she is breathing a little bit
:09:08. > :09:12.heavier than she was done earlier. She is going to have to play a
:09:13. > :09:19.couple of good shorts -- shots. Vicki Adams trying to follow a good
:09:20. > :09:21.shot she played previously. Another good one here. It needs to come
:09:22. > :09:51.around. Look at that. Was that result OK in the end? Yes.
:09:52. > :09:59.I think she would have preferred to hit and roll to the other side. It
:10:00. > :10:05.looks like we may have a plan to left on the front two. That may just
:10:06. > :10:45.jam. The red behind that front yellow, if they hit that,
:10:46. > :10:47.Kind of hoping they are going to roll across to the other side as
:10:48. > :11:04.well. That has ended up with Britain still
:11:05. > :11:17.lying two. Not quite what she wanted. The dilemma for Eve is where
:11:18. > :11:19.she puts that third stone. She wants to try and keep space between her
:11:20. > :11:41.shots, not leave any doubles on. You saw where Eve tapped across
:11:42. > :11:56.where she wants this to go. Just about three o'clock. I would like to
:11:57. > :12:01.see her moving that front yellow. There is a double line there. An
:12:02. > :12:05.easy 44 Canada Day she does not move that. Is she just going to tap it
:12:06. > :12:28.back? Yes. A raise of the eyebrows from
:12:29. > :12:32.Jennifer Jones. She looks calm and collected. But I'm sure she knows
:12:33. > :12:39.that it has been a tough match here. It is going to go down to the
:12:40. > :12:44.wire. Anna Sloan trying to put Britain in a good position here.
:12:45. > :12:52.Well, if we don't get to hear it is game over. -- number two here. She
:12:53. > :13:00.needs to give Eve the opportunity. They are looking for a little split.
:13:01. > :13:06.Not bad. Just a little more would have pushed it down and the yellow
:13:07. > :13:13.would have come across a bit more. There is a double there. An
:13:14. > :13:22.opportunity to take those two out. That is what she is looking at. She
:13:23. > :13:28.only has two options. The first call is the right one. She is only going
:13:29. > :13:43.to see half of that. She only needs to catch about a quarter of it. She
:13:44. > :13:45.thinks this is really thin. She has to catch it reasonably thin to make
:13:46. > :13:50.sure she takes out that other British stone. So Kaitlyn Lawes,
:13:51. > :14:01.trying to compose herself to play this one.
:14:02. > :14:10.A mistake you may be difficult to resurrect. -- a mistake may be
:14:11. > :14:18.difficult to resurrect. It is coming down with plenty of weight. Is it
:14:19. > :14:26.accurate? Goodness me! She played that with a lot of weight. Look at
:14:27. > :14:34.what that means. How annoyed is she? That is a huge error from Kaitlyn
:14:35. > :14:40.Lawes. I thought it was heading towards that yellow to clip it.
:14:41. > :14:50.Missed. I'm sure we may see a replay. Was it half an inch? It has
:14:51. > :14:55.almost been building. You could just see Kaitlyn Lawes over the last 20
:14:56. > :15:01.minutes, she has played a couple of goods shots still, but there have
:15:02. > :15:07.been a few others when she hasn't delivered. Even if she just called
:15:08. > :15:11.an age of that, it would not be enough. She needed to catch a
:15:12. > :15:16.quarter of that stone. When she said it needs to be super-thin, if you
:15:17. > :15:25.looked at the angle, it did not need to be that then. She played it then.
:15:26. > :15:30.This could be a game changer for us here.
:15:31. > :15:36.Always, always a difficult situation to be in. You can score big but you
:15:37. > :15:43.don't want to leave any doubles and take that opportunity away from you.
:15:44. > :15:52.I bet her heart is racing. I think, potentially, if the girls put one at
:15:53. > :15:56.the back where Eve is calling, there still is the possibility of the
:15:57. > :16:05.doubles that they just tried to play.
:16:06. > :16:14.They have got a problem with the clock, I think. It is working now.
:16:15. > :16:17.The time is going now. The clock hadn't started and the umpire came
:16:18. > :16:22.to say they had a problem with the clock. Just if you are not aware,
:16:23. > :16:27.each team has 73 minutes to play the whole ten ends. The clock starts
:16:28. > :16:31.ticking when you are in play, as it were, so any discussion, you are
:16:32. > :16:39.using uptime. The clock had malfunctioned, which the umpire came
:16:40. > :16:42.to tell them. It was not running for about 30 seconds, so the umpire has
:16:43. > :16:52.come on and given even some extra time. A technical time has been
:16:53. > :17:00.called. The umpire will have to readjust that, so both the British
:17:01. > :17:09.clocks and -- clock and Canadian club have been stopped. I don't
:17:10. > :17:15.think it was moving when Britain were in play, so they may time
:17:16. > :17:20.taken. Eve is just continuing with her game plan. I'm sure there is no
:17:21. > :17:28.reason why she can't carry on. The only danger is you can over discuss.
:17:29. > :17:36.So it remains to be seen whether any time is taken off that. They have
:17:37. > :17:41.added the Canadian time on, are they going to take time off Britain?
:17:42. > :17:50.There we go, the clock is now ticking.
:17:51. > :17:56.Let's hope that hasn't distracted our girls at all.
:17:57. > :18:01.So, Anna Sloan, a really crucial shot here just to keep the pressure
:18:02. > :18:28.on. It has got to stay. It has just
:18:29. > :18:38.gone. Too far. You could see how heavy it was. That is not a good
:18:39. > :18:40.result for Anna Sloan. They have called a time-out and the clock is
:18:41. > :18:59.still going. And it is still running. Do you want
:19:00. > :19:03.to try this again? Or do you like that? No idea what is happening down
:19:04. > :19:06.there at the minute. It is not helping anybody when you have
:19:07. > :19:13.technical problems, but they are pushing on.
:19:14. > :19:22.So what has Jones called here. She has called the same shot that
:19:23. > :19:23.Kaitlyn Lawes was asked to do she wants to take these yellows on the
:19:24. > :19:50.left of the picture. She saw the line that Kaitlyn Lawes
:19:51. > :19:59.took and this looks better. She wanted to turn as well. And a good
:20:00. > :20:04.result against what the Canadian skip. There is the fist pump. That
:20:05. > :20:11.is the shot she wanted. And the high-5. Bigshot from Jennifer Jones,
:20:12. > :20:18.and that might just have saved things after a poor shot from
:20:19. > :20:25.Caitlin Lawes -- Kaitlyn Lawes previously. Not only that, but those
:20:26. > :20:29.are the two British stones definitely out. We have to make sure
:20:30. > :20:34.we get a second shot in here and don't leave a double. Eve can
:20:35. > :20:42.potentially put this quite deep at the back of the eight foot. And then
:20:43. > :20:47.hopefully, Jennifer won't follow that.
:20:48. > :20:52.Whatever the outcome is, we don't want to leave a double. We want to
:20:53. > :20:56.give ourselves the opportunity of a two. And I can't help but feeling we
:20:57. > :21:15.have asked the questions. This needs to count. Need to keep
:21:16. > :21:21.sweeping. There is a shot that Jones is going to love. You heard the girl
:21:22. > :21:24.saying they wanted to get it into the back eight, the black-and-white
:21:25. > :21:30.section of the rings. This could be the last shot, if Jones pulls this
:21:31. > :21:36.off, there is anyone shot left for Britain and both of those are out,
:21:37. > :21:41.they cannot win. -- there is only one shot. It is still difficult and
:21:42. > :21:48.the one thing she doesn't want to do is miss them and give us the great
:21:49. > :21:51.opportunity of a three. She has just played a greater shot and that is
:21:52. > :22:02.obviously going to be something she will remember. Coming on the inside
:22:03. > :22:08.of the stone this time. Trying to come across and put both British
:22:09. > :22:11.stones out and put paid to any chance Eve has of rescuing this
:22:12. > :22:12.match. So Jennifer Jones with her last stone, trying to move both of
:22:13. > :22:31.the yellows. No. It was too straight. Sorry,
:22:32. > :22:34.guys. And an apology a game, not for the first time, from Jennifer Jones,
:22:35. > :22:42.and a straightforward shot for Eve Muirhead. That back yellow is jammed
:22:43. > :22:46.in, it is sitting and counting and Eve Muirhead is thinking is she hits
:22:47. > :22:50.these reds, she can get all of the shots out, stay in the house for
:22:51. > :23:00.three and win the game. She is going to go Fred. -- go for it. It is an
:23:01. > :23:08.all or nothing shot. Make it, those three reds go, you leave three in.
:23:09. > :23:13.Get it slightly wrong... Yes, this is a big shot. I think it is highly
:23:14. > :23:19.possible. Eve Muirhead wouldn't be attempting it if it wasn't. What an
:23:20. > :23:23.end this would be to what has been a great match. It has been incredibly
:23:24. > :23:34.close. Eve Muirhead with a chance of a really big shot. I am not sure it
:23:35. > :23:37.looks like it has got enough. It is the opposite. It was an all or
:23:38. > :23:40.nothing shot and it has given the match to Canada. She could have tied
:23:41. > :23:46.it up with a two, went for the winning shot. It would have been an
:23:47. > :23:51.incredible win had it come off but it didn't. A high-risk strategy by
:23:52. > :23:55.Eve Muirhead, but it is the Canadians who come out on top. It
:23:56. > :24:00.was a good game, they played well, certainly played some good shots.
:24:01. > :24:04.There were mistakes on both sides, but it is Canada who get the win and
:24:05. > :24:14.that is three for them and Britain have won just one of their first
:24:15. > :24:18.three matches. 9-6. JONATHAN EDWARDS: Well, so dramatic,
:24:19. > :24:23.wasn't it? Right up to the last one, we thought Eve Muirhead could pull
:24:24. > :24:28.it out of the bag but it didn't turn out that way. Canada very much the
:24:29. > :24:31.favourites, you would say, for that tournament. But Canada have their
:24:32. > :24:34.Jennifer Jones and we have our Jenny Jones, who won a bronze in the
:24:35. > :24:38.slopestyle snowboarding and I'm sure lots of you have been inspired to
:24:39. > :24:53.take a bad sport of what she achieved. -- take up that sport.
:24:54. > :25:04.If you think the British skiers and snowboarders and in Sochi started on
:25:05. > :25:09.fresh powder, you would be wrong. All of them started somewhere like
:25:10. > :25:13.this. No mountains, no snow. This is Halifax ski and snowboard Centre.
:25:14. > :25:20.Jamie Nicholls group riding here and it is typical of many of the dry
:25:21. > :25:28.slopes around the UK. -- grew up. It always brings up by the fleet back
:25:29. > :25:34.memories. I liked to use Hillend, in Edinburgh, and it has been about six
:25:35. > :25:36.years since I have been on dry slopes. So I am going to give it a
:25:37. > :25:53.go. It doesn't run quite as fast as snow
:25:54. > :26:01.and it goes a bit quicker when it is pouring with rain. There are two
:26:02. > :26:09.types of dry slopes, one is faster and better the racing and this type
:26:10. > :26:14.is much better for freestyle. If dry slopes seem a little tired and
:26:15. > :26:19.perhaps a bit dated, then this feels entirely different. Just 20 miles
:26:20. > :26:27.down the road, this is in Castleford, one of six indoor snow
:26:28. > :26:31.centres in the UK. Real snow, no wind, no rain. And when they get all
:26:32. > :26:42.of the features that, this place turns into a jibber's paradise. The
:26:43. > :26:46.indoor snow domes are fantastic. What a creation. We are standing in
:26:47. > :26:50.a giant fridge with the ultimate set-up to learn to ski and snowboard
:26:51. > :26:56.and even us, we can come in here and progress. You can get to such a high
:26:57. > :27:00.level that you can compete with some of the best.
:27:01. > :27:05.You can learn the fundamentals and the basics up to quite a very high
:27:06. > :27:10.standard. This place is actually really busy
:27:11. > :27:13.for a Friday night. It has reached that critical mass. There is a real
:27:14. > :27:17.mixture between skiers and snowboarders, different standards
:27:18. > :27:21.and different ages. So one kid will try something, another one will copy
:27:22. > :27:28.it and they will push each other and are improving together.
:27:29. > :27:31.The Brummies are getting ridiculous. Ripping double corks on
:27:32. > :27:36.a dry slope there, which is unbelievable. The new generation of
:27:37. > :27:40.kids coming through will blow people's minds. There are camps
:27:41. > :27:45.coming of the people who have never been on a box or a rail or hit a
:27:46. > :27:48.jumper, so it really does take you right through from the very first
:27:49. > :27:55.time and progress you to potentially getting on the junior team, joining
:27:56. > :27:58.a development squad. The fact that slopestyle skiing and snowboarding
:27:59. > :28:03.have gone into the Olympics, it is kind of like, we can actually do
:28:04. > :28:07.this in the UK now. Absolutely, these guys have shown this is
:28:08. > :28:12.possible. All of them have come from dry slopes and no centres. It is
:28:13. > :28:14.really paving the way will for what can be achieved and it would be
:28:15. > :28:27.great to see more kids coming through.
:28:28. > :28:32.And maybe you could be the next Jenny Jones after watching that.
:28:33. > :28:36.Don't forget, you can go north of the border to Scotland, where they
:28:37. > :28:41.have lots of snow at the moment. For more on snowboarding and lots of
:28:42. > :28:45.other sports, log onto the BBC website. Just come with me quickly
:28:46. > :28:48.before we go off air. We have a lovely marching band, a real
:28:49. > :28:55.carnival atmosphere on the Olympic Park in Sochi today. And we will be
:28:56. > :29:01.back very, very shortly on BBC Two the lots more sport from this 22nd
:29:02. > :29:02.Winter Olympic Games. -- for lots more.
