:00:25. > :00:50.Hello, welcome to highlight top England's international against

:00:51. > :00:54.Germany. If you look back through the history of women's football,

:00:55. > :00:59.this hasn't been exactly an evenly matched contest, but when bronze

:01:00. > :01:04.medals were up for grabs at this year's World Cup, England did

:01:05. > :01:10.finally beat the Germans. The final chapter in England's World Cup

:01:11. > :01:14.finals but has had just about everything, will it contain a

:01:15. > :01:19.paragraph that has never been written before? First international

:01:20. > :01:23.against two-time World Cup winners Germany.

:01:24. > :01:37.Bardsley called into action. Certain own goal if it wasn't for Steph

:01:38. > :01:43.Houghton. What a save from Bardsley! Jill Scott, can England finish it

:01:44. > :01:50.off? They can't. Very good from England. They can't be separated in

:01:51. > :01:55.the 90 minutes, it is extra time. Sanderson, why she pulled back? She

:01:56. > :01:59.was. Penalty to England. Fara Williams has the chance with the

:02:00. > :02:05.third penalty of the tournament to break the deadlock. Cool as you

:02:06. > :02:08.like, she has done it again. England have completed their most successful

:02:09. > :02:12.World Cup finals ever, a bronze medal and a first ever international

:02:13. > :02:19.win over the number one ranked team in the world, Germany.

:02:20. > :02:22.As you can see, 1 of our guests played in that match is on the field

:02:23. > :02:29.when Fara Williams struck the winning penalty, Karen Carney, great

:02:30. > :02:33.to see you, and Rachel Brown finis, former England goalkeeper. It looked

:02:34. > :02:36.as though you had quite a party afterwards, you don't need to tell

:02:37. > :02:41.us too much about that but what was it like to finally beat the Germans?

:02:42. > :02:45.I think it was years coming, watching it back now on the BT gives

:02:46. > :02:49.me goose bumps and I don't think I can do it justice about how amazing

:02:50. > :02:53.it was to explain to everyone but it was one of the best things I have

:02:54. > :02:59.done in my football career. And was it a good party afterwards? It was,

:03:00. > :03:04.especially as we beat the Germans on a penalty. Yes, not used in a smiley

:03:05. > :03:09.context usually when it comes to England. I am not blaming you, just

:03:10. > :03:12.saying! In terms of the wider context of that victory for English

:03:13. > :03:18.women's football, given the history, what you think it meant? It is a

:03:19. > :03:22.first, England made history this summer, and I think that tells most

:03:23. > :03:27.of the story, but it is more than that, it is more about the mental

:03:28. > :03:31.barriers, it has pushed the women's came through. They have never done

:03:32. > :03:36.that before, now they know it can be done and onto this next game.

:03:37. > :03:39.England play Bosnia in their second European championship qualifier on

:03:40. > :03:44.Sunday, a match they are expected to win fairly comfortably, so this

:03:45. > :03:48.match against Germany is the big test this week and the stats don't

:03:49. > :03:53.make great reading for England football fans. In 21 previous

:03:54. > :03:57.encounters, England have been on the losing side 18 times and the cask in

:03:58. > :04:01.Duisburg would be made even harder by the fact that the Germans are in

:04:02. > :04:05.the middle of their domestic season and the English finished back in

:04:06. > :04:07.October. Your commentators the match for England football fans. In 21

:04:08. > :04:10.previous encounters, England have been on the losing side 18 times and

:04:11. > :04:13.the cask in Duisburg would be made even harder by the fact that the

:04:14. > :04:15.Germans are in the middle of their domestic season and the English

:04:16. > :04:25.finished back in October. Your commentators the match former --the

:04:26. > :04:27.former international Sue Smith and Jonathan Pearce.

:04:28. > :04:40.Debut for the 23-year-old goalkeeper for Germany. England are without

:04:41. > :04:47.five of the team that beat Germany in Edmonton but Taylor and Fran

:04:48. > :04:50.Kirby are very much the first choice too. Jordan Nobbs is the doubt and

:04:51. > :04:57.Demi Stokes, overlooked for the World Cup, is another ever present

:04:58. > :05:09.in the three games so far. A night of the send-ups --sendoffs for the

:05:10. > :05:15.Germans, another one to brings down the curtain at the European

:05:16. > :05:21.Championships. She started in 2005. --Another one as Silvia Neid brings

:05:22. > :05:35.down the curtain after the European Championships.

:05:36. > :05:41.You and I were watching the game in the World Cup, not at the ground,

:05:42. > :05:45.because we had to be in Vancouver for the final, we watched it in a

:05:46. > :05:49.piazza bear on the big screen and the Canadians were very much rooting

:05:50. > :05:53.for England, I seem to remember. Yes, they really were, we were

:05:54. > :05:57.standing up and cheering on our own at times but what a result that was

:05:58. > :06:00.and that just changed women's football.

:06:01. > :06:11.Mark Sampson looking on, he has made such startling progress as England

:06:12. > :06:14.coach, coming up for two years in charge. He has done a fantastic job

:06:15. > :06:19.and the fact that he is prepared to try new players and if you are

:06:20. > :06:23.performing well for your club, he will put you in. Gilly Flaherty has

:06:24. > :06:29.done really well for Chelsea and he has put her in to try out against

:06:30. > :06:36.one of the world's best teams. Mittag got five goals in the World

:06:37. > :06:41.Cup finals. Laid off by Goessling. A chance the Germany, across the face

:06:42. > :06:46.of goal and cleared by Alex Greenwood. So far this season, they

:06:47. > :06:50.have been in devastating form early in their games. They have played for

:06:51. > :06:54.and they have scored within the opening eight minutes of all four

:06:55. > :07:00.games --may have played four. I have been impressed with how England have

:07:01. > :07:04.pressed really high. That is really good positional play by Alex

:07:05. > :07:08.Greenwood. But England has started well but they have to be aware that

:07:09. > :07:09.Germany attack at pace with so many numbers and England nearly got

:07:10. > :07:20.caught out. The free kick goes against Lucy

:07:21. > :07:24.Bronze. Such a wonderful World Cup this summer with those goals against

:07:25. > :07:27.Norway and Canada. I thought this was a good tackle, she wins the ball

:07:28. > :07:42.well. Definitely not a foul. Don't forget, England's road to the

:07:43. > :07:45.European Championships for 2017 continues this weekend with just

:07:46. > :07:49.their second game against Bosnia, it is a game you can watch on the BBC.

:07:50. > :07:54.It is in Bristol on Sunday afternoon. Mark Sampson will be

:07:55. > :08:00.looking at his team here today, judging fitness, judging competitive

:08:01. > :08:09.spirit, with that team in mind for Sunday.

:08:10. > :08:18.She bends it into the box looking for the far post and the header

:08:19. > :08:21.drops just over from Babett Peter, looking for a fifth international

:08:22. > :08:26.goal. It was an excellent delivery and Babett Peter just managed to

:08:27. > :08:31.lose her marker, step or ten, but she couldn't direct they had

:08:32. > :08:34.thankfully for England. What a ball that is, whipped in, so difficult

:08:35. > :08:41.for defenders and goalkeepers to come out and claim. He wants England

:08:42. > :08:59.to be known as a member of the elite in the world's game.

:09:00. > :09:09.Anja Mittag from range. It is wide of the England goal.

:09:10. > :09:15.That is the confidence of the German team, they are not afraid to shoot.

:09:16. > :09:20.They see a slight opening, a slight opportunity and they take a strike.

:09:21. > :09:21.Karen Bardsley had that well covered but that is the confidence they

:09:22. > :09:35.have. Mittag, the eighth highest scorer in

:09:36. > :09:42.international football. She scored in that romp against Turkey. 7-0 on

:09:43. > :09:46.the back of a victory at home in Russia. They won in Croatia, that

:09:47. > :09:50.was a big game for them, Croatia expected to be the toughest

:09:51. > :09:54.opponents in their group and they started this international season

:09:55. > :10:01.with a 12-0 win against Hungary. Jody Taylor now out in Australia, on

:10:02. > :10:08.loan at Canberra. Birkenhead girl. You knew her from her Tranmere days.

:10:09. > :10:13.Yes, I did, very talented player even then. She has actually just

:10:14. > :10:18.been back to Tranmere. She has travelled a bit, she has had ten

:10:19. > :10:21.clubs in Canada, the USA and Australia, all over the place.

:10:22. > :10:27.Yellow card for Steph Houghton for the foul. I am not sure about this

:10:28. > :10:31.one either. She has come out of position to try and put pressure but

:10:32. > :10:47.you can see, she has lived in a little bit later. --She has slid in.

:10:48. > :11:12.They are full of so much good movement, Germany.

:11:13. > :11:22.A fine run by the young left back into the penalty area, and saved by

:11:23. > :11:28.Karen Bardsley. It would have been a debut goal for Rauch. Good

:11:29. > :11:34.goalkeeping. Excellent goalkeeping and good play by Germany, 1 and two

:11:35. > :11:39.touch. Lucy Bronze just miss hit the back pass and the full-back was on

:11:40. > :11:42.it straightaway. She just tries to poke at around Karen Bardsley and

:11:43. > :11:46.she stood up really well, made herself as big as she possibly

:11:47. > :11:55.could. That is a good save for England, good strong hand. Mightily

:11:56. > :12:00.impressive, Rauch, in the under 20 world cup winning side of 2014.

:12:01. > :12:09.Silvia Neid promoting her to the senior squad here. They are very

:12:10. > :12:27.strong in the full-back positions. Very similar to Leoine Maier. Had a

:12:28. > :12:32.rotten World Cup campaign, Jordan Nobbs, the Arsenal player, through

:12:33. > :12:37.injury. That is a decent strike. They need to test this goalkeeper.

:12:38. > :12:39.It is her debut. She may be experienced at youth level, but not

:12:40. > :13:07.at this level. 28 minutes gone, not a game brimful

:13:08. > :13:12.with chances. A slip like that could be costly, but overall, England are

:13:13. > :13:15.holding their own here. They really are, I have been impressed with how

:13:16. > :13:19.they have matched Germany physically, because sometimes that

:13:20. > :13:23.is an issue when you play the German side, they are strong and athletic

:13:24. > :13:30.and powerful, but I think England have matched that. Karen Bardsley

:13:31. > :13:38.did really well of her lying there. --Off-macro her

:13:39. > :13:52.Williams, her 148 appearance --140th appearance.

:13:53. > :13:58.Jordan Nobbs has never been scared of doing that. She scored a 30

:13:59. > :14:08.yarder against Sweden in the under 19 Championships. She scored on her

:14:09. > :14:14.debut against Italy as well. She got a couple in the Continental cup

:14:15. > :14:17.final for Arsenal. One was a complete individual goal and the

:14:18. > :14:21.other one was a 30 yarder, so she has the ability to do that and the

:14:22. > :14:31.confidence, and it is good to see her back to full fitness.

:14:32. > :14:38.England have suddenly picked up the pace a little bit. Not a good ball

:14:39. > :14:44.out of wide by Alex Greenwood. I spoke to Mark Sampson today and he

:14:45. > :14:53.was saying they want to press Germany high in the German third. To

:14:54. > :14:56.see what they can get from that. The conservative, hold your shape

:14:57. > :15:00.defensively and then went they can press them in the final third, they

:15:01. > :15:11.feel they can be mistakes in the German defence. --There-macro

:15:12. > :15:23.Lina Magull has stayed down. Again, won the ball, good tackle. Jill

:15:24. > :15:26.Scott will get forward and support the attack but then she is quite

:15:27. > :15:33.happy to get back and help defensively too. On the right-hand

:15:34. > :15:41.side there with the red notebook on her lap is Steffi Jones who will

:15:42. > :15:48.take over after the European finals. She takes over in ten months' time.

:15:49. > :15:57.She knows Silvia Neid very well, played for her.

:15:58. > :16:04.Good saved by the goalkeeper on debut and England could and should

:16:05. > :16:07.have been ahead. They won't get many opportunities like this on this

:16:08. > :16:17.ground. Good play opportunities like this on this

:16:18. > :16:20.unselfish play and I said it Jody Taylor can play on the shoulder, she

:16:21. > :16:25.will get some joy. Really unselfish from Jordan Nobbs. Demi Stokes

:16:26. > :16:28.couldn't quite direct her shot and that is a really good chance and you

:16:29. > :16:33.have to be clinical with those chances, because there won't be

:16:34. > :16:34.many. But good play, it showed that England completely opened up the

:16:35. > :16:51.German defence. Suddenly, Jordan Nobbs is winning

:16:52. > :16:55.the ball in midfield, she is creating, she is elusive and Germany

:16:56. > :17:00.are finding it hard to hold onto her. She is finding those pockets of

:17:01. > :17:01.space and when she gets the ball, she is finding a player and making

:17:02. > :17:18.something happen. I think that is perhaps why we

:17:19. > :17:26.haven't seen a lot of Fran Kirby, because when Rauch is forward, and

:17:27. > :17:32.Kirby is coming back to protect Lucy Bronze. Protect is probably too

:17:33. > :17:54.harsh word, to support her, because they already have Simone Loder out

:17:55. > :18:05.there. --Simone Laudehr. It came back to Leoine Maier. A fine save.

:18:06. > :18:10.Karen Bardsley has been very good with everything she has had to do.

:18:11. > :18:16.Again, it is a full-back, they love to get forward and strike at goal.

:18:17. > :18:20.That is not a bad effort, it is at Karen Bardsley but she needs the

:18:21. > :18:24.strong hand to push it over. I thought as the tournament went on

:18:25. > :18:25.over the summer, she emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in those

:18:26. > :18:53.World Cup finals. If Jill Scott could have got her

:18:54. > :18:57.head up, Jody Taylor was going down the left-hand side. Just the wrong

:18:58. > :19:17.decision, I think. Behringer with the effort that was

:19:18. > :19:21.always rising high. She has a good international scoring pedigree, 29

:19:22. > :19:28.goals, she scored in the Euro 2009 final against England. Mark Sampson

:19:29. > :19:48.playing an important role for England these days.

:19:49. > :19:58.That is a poor ball from such an experienced player.

:19:59. > :20:10.Jordan Nobbs is driving the show at the moment. Jill Scott, such an

:20:11. > :20:14.energetic player. Jordan Nobbs covers so much ground, she wants the

:20:15. > :20:20.ball back into her feet again. Always hungry for it. Her dad was a

:20:21. > :20:21.player, Keith, with Middlesex and Halifax and Hartlepool back in the

:20:22. > :20:43.day, over 400 games, he played. Some of the first half for us,

:20:44. > :20:47.soon. I think it is a very assured performance from England, they had

:20:48. > :20:50.stopped Germany from playing. They have maybe not created too many

:20:51. > :20:54.chances but they had the opportunity they will look back on and think,

:20:55. > :20:56.should we have scored? But I have been impressed with the way they

:20:57. > :21:15.have gone about the first half. Jill Scott will still be hoping to

:21:16. > :21:19.be around, only 28 in 2017, and of course, the next World Cup finals in

:21:20. > :21:23.France. Half-time in Duisburg, Germany have had a couple of very

:21:24. > :21:30.good at that is well dealt with by Karen Bardsley, who has had a strong

:21:31. > :21:36.first 45 minutes. --At very good efforts. The other end, Jordan Nobbs

:21:37. > :21:41.creating problems for Germany. It is goalless, nil-nil. Sue Smith,

:21:42. > :21:49.England did very well in the first half and there are now face --they

:21:50. > :21:53.now face a very changed Germany team, with four substitutes. They

:21:54. > :21:58.do, it is a friendly game and it is a chance to make those changes.

:21:59. > :22:01.England have not made any changes but I am sure as time goes on, he

:22:02. > :22:06.will bring in other players but looking towards Sunday, he will

:22:07. > :22:13.think he will want to save players for that game. A word for Pharell

:22:14. > :23:02.--Fara Williams. that European championship qualifier

:23:03. > :23:05.against Bosnia Herzegovina. You can watch it on the BBC. They will

:23:06. > :23:10.want Lucy Bronze to stay clear of any injury for that. But it was

:23:11. > :23:14.Rauch who went down, feeling the effects. I think it was a really

:23:15. > :23:18.good header and I think Mark Sampson agrees with me, he is not sure why

:23:19. > :23:31.that free kick was given. It is a fair challenge.

:23:32. > :23:35.Good view of their of the England tactics, line of four, a line of

:23:36. > :23:59.five. Played in the play-off against

:24:00. > :24:04.England in Canada. Can be a danger, scored a couple the season against

:24:05. > :24:08.Russia. England have looked very sharp and considering there is any

:24:09. > :24:13.Fran Kirby and Gilly Flaherty who has played in the Champions League

:24:14. > :24:17.recently, all of the others haven't played for four or five weeks. They

:24:18. > :24:27.are doing something right. They did have the two match tour of the Far

:24:28. > :24:28.East, China and Australia. But some of them playing their first

:24:29. > :24:40.international of the season. The flag raised. That is exactly the

:24:41. > :24:44.ball but needs to be played, maybe a little bit earlier. You could see

:24:45. > :24:58.Jodie Taylor was pointing. I admired the sort of phlegmatic way

:24:59. > :25:04.she accepted defeat in the summer, in the semifinal and also in the

:25:05. > :25:10.play-off match. It is cold, and I'd for hot dog and chips. That is just

:25:11. > :25:11.appear in the commentary position. No, the way she treated successive

:25:12. > :25:24.failure in the same way. They have worked very well together,

:25:25. > :25:40.Steph Houghton and Gilly Flaherty, the England centre backs.

:25:41. > :25:49.No place in the starting line-up for Bassett, she is in the bench --on

:25:50. > :25:55.the bench. Wonderful World Cup, tinged sadness of the semifinal. And

:25:56. > :26:02.Casey Stoner in there as well. Yes, vastly experienced. Steph Houghton

:26:03. > :26:06.with a slight error and O'Flaherty came over and covered. And in a

:26:07. > :26:12.previous attack a few moments ago, when Steph Houghton crossed in front

:26:13. > :26:16.of her fellow centre half, Lucy Bronze went in and covered, so they

:26:17. > :26:20.are working well as a unit. They really are, you would think they had

:26:21. > :26:23.played together for a while in the way they are covering for each other

:26:24. > :26:28.and helping each other out, some very timely tackles. Gilly

:26:29. > :26:31.and helping each other out, some Flaherty's third International and

:26:32. > :26:50.you wouldn't believe it, the way she has settled in there.

:26:51. > :27:01.It is poked effort that wasn't far wide. Babett Peter up from the back.

:27:02. > :27:06.That was close. It was well dealt with, it was a good corner and Steph

:27:07. > :27:11.Houghton dealt with it and as it is stumbling around, just trying to toe

:27:12. > :27:15.poke it. Again, I think Karen Bardsley had that covered. They have

:27:16. > :27:21.got to be aware of the second balls, England. Jodie Taylor tried

:27:22. > :27:24.to block that. I think Mark Sampson is saying they have to try and clear

:27:25. > :27:31.a little bit further on that second ball. Only four international goals

:27:32. > :27:36.to her name, the centre back, but at club level, she was a regular

:27:37. > :27:38.scorer, one every 15 games from a defensive position. Nine Jude, they

:27:39. > :27:59.used to score for fun. Lucy Bronze gave it away. Saved once

:28:00. > :28:03.a -- again very well by Karen Bardsley. England are under

:28:04. > :28:05.pressure, in their own half and defending for their lives.

:28:06. > :28:07.pressure, in their own half and strike, straight after but she is

:28:08. > :28:28.alert to everything. She Half a chance. Again, dealt with

:28:29. > :28:34.Canterbury by Karen Bardsley. They are not afraid to shoot, are they?

:28:35. > :28:38.Steph Houghton did what she could but the second ball, they are alive

:28:39. > :28:44.and alert and they shoot as soon as they see it. Not as comfortably as I

:28:45. > :29:00.thought! She had a little smile after that.

:29:01. > :29:06.England on the defensive, Steph Houghton in front of the goalkeeper.

:29:07. > :29:11.Karen Bardsley came out, what a strong night she has had. A good

:29:12. > :29:16.ball in and as a defender, should I leave it for my goalkeeper or vice

:29:17. > :29:32.versa? They both managed to scramble the ball away.

:29:33. > :29:38.Goessling will take the corner. Eight white shirts in or around the

:29:39. > :29:41.penalty area. England need to be watchful and they weren't and it is

:29:42. > :29:49.a great chance for Marozsan and Germany should have been ahead. Well

:29:50. > :29:53.done, Karen Bardsley. But who was picking up Marozsan? She makes a

:29:54. > :29:57.good run of macro, Steph Houghton is going mad, saying who was picking

:29:58. > :29:59.her up? Completely on her own, and as a striker, should have done

:30:00. > :30:07.better. Good set piece routine, lots of

:30:08. > :30:15.rotational movement in there. From that position Marozsan should have

:30:16. > :30:22.had her 27th goal, and her coach knows it.

:30:23. > :30:29.And there, the competitiveness, Baha'i pressure, winning it back so

:30:30. > :30:35.quickly. That is what Germany like to do to other teams, so England

:30:36. > :30:41.have matched them in that, the workrate has been excellent. White

:30:42. > :30:45.match has been made of Jurgen clop's practical as if they are

:30:46. > :30:50.world shattering, Bayern Munich have been doing it for years -- might

:30:51. > :30:55.Jurgen Klopp, winning the ball back within five seconds, they have been

:30:56. > :30:59.doing it for years, the Liverpool team of years ago, Leeds United

:31:00. > :31:04.before that are pressing with the ball back quickly, it is not a new

:31:05. > :31:13.tactic. White whatever you call it to work hard across the pitch. Yes.

:31:14. > :31:14.Fall back as quickly as you can. Not saying Jurgen Klopp hasn't started

:31:15. > :31:38.well at Liverpool. Benkarth showing confidence on her

:31:39. > :31:45.debut. Oh, there's a mistake there. Will

:31:46. > :32:02.Jill Scott go for the chip? No. It was the right idea, completely

:32:03. > :32:05.the wrong execution, good pressure from Tony Duggan, made the

:32:06. > :32:16.goalkeeper decide, I was thinking, hit it! She slips just about as she

:32:17. > :32:20.was going to do it. We weren't the only ones, Duggan, in that Scouse

:32:21. > :32:27.accent affairs, was shouting at her to have a go. Good challenge from

:32:28. > :32:33.Flaherty. Came to meet the ball and made sure she won it. She has had a

:32:34. > :32:37.very good night. She really has, both her and Steph Houghton, very

:32:38. > :32:51.timely tackles, and they'd leave the game so well. Marozsan. In behind,

:32:52. > :32:58.but feeling her way back to full fitness, the talented Marozsan. The

:32:59. > :32:59.youngest ever Bundesliga played player in the women's game, made her

:33:00. > :33:34.debut at 14 years old. In by Bronze. A free kick to

:33:35. > :33:44.England, Jill Scott foul. Worked hard yet again for England. And if

:33:45. > :33:48.she starts at the weekend against Bosnia-Herzegovina, I would bet on

:33:49. > :33:53.her scoring in that game, Jill Scott. I wouldn't be surprised.

:33:54. > :34:00.Every player has worked really hard in the England squad. The players

:34:01. > :34:04.that have come on have come straight in and pressed, they have worked as

:34:05. > :34:10.a team. I have been really impressed. The last 30 seconds, just

:34:11. > :34:16.a little bit of stoppage time. What is the significance of this goalless

:34:17. > :34:19.draw? This is a good result for England, the fact that they are not

:34:20. > :34:25.in season, which we mentioned earlier, Germany are, Germany will

:34:26. > :34:33.want to prove a point, won't they, from the World Cup. Duggan, could it

:34:34. > :34:40.get better for England? Denied Germany chance to score... Just got

:34:41. > :34:45.very nearly at the end, popped up. Entering stoppage time, it floated

:34:46. > :34:48.just over. That would have been even better, wouldn't it, had England

:34:49. > :34:55.just got the goal right at the end. Good play from Duggan, hold-up play,

:34:56. > :35:02.quick feet and found Jill Scott. Did everything right but who the target!

:35:03. > :35:17.Got her foot and Adobe there are a little too much and over it went.

:35:18. > :35:24.Sensible ball at this late stage in the game, out wide into that space.

:35:25. > :35:49.Looking for Duggan. And a very good result for England

:35:50. > :35:54.in this match. Away in Germany in the past this would have been a game

:35:55. > :35:58.to be feared, but this reflects the growing maturity of this England

:35:59. > :36:03.side, Germany could not get revenge for that third-4th play-off. England

:36:04. > :36:07.go into the Euro jumping your qualifier on Sunday gone to Bosnia

:36:08. > :36:12.with a very good goalless draw in Germany. -- championship qualifier.

:36:13. > :36:17.You must be very pleased with that, Mark. We are. Germany is always a

:36:18. > :36:36.tough game, but an important aspect of our play tonight was to stamp

:36:37. > :36:39.authority on the game, and show no fear. I thought the players were

:36:40. > :36:41.exceptional, their mindset and mentality to compete physically

:36:42. > :36:43.which you have to do in these games, I thought we press the ball very

:36:44. > :36:46.well and created good chances through that, and of course when you

:36:47. > :36:49.pressure the ball Edo and get everyone in the right place, but we

:36:50. > :36:51.are fortunate to have an outstanding goalkeeper made fantastic saves

:36:52. > :36:53.tonight. I thought if there was one downside maybe we panicked a little

:36:54. > :36:57.in the final third. We might have come away with a victory but for

:36:58. > :37:02.that. If you were offered a goalless draw before the game would you have

:37:03. > :37:05.taken it? The fact that I am being honest in saying no shows the

:37:06. > :37:09.confidence we have in the group and the group's confidence in

:37:10. > :37:16.themselves. You could see that. The ball comes up for one minute and the

:37:17. > :37:19.bench are moaning there should be more. There is growing confidence

:37:20. > :37:21.and belief and to come to this intimidating environment against an

:37:22. > :37:26.excellent team really well coached by a superb manager, you have to

:37:27. > :37:31.front up and they did that. You have to keep going on Sunday. What

:37:32. > :37:35.positives can you take into that Euro qualifier? It is a short

:37:36. > :37:39.turnaround so we have to recover and get sorted for that, but is a big

:37:40. > :37:43.one as well, we are excited to come back to play in front of our own

:37:44. > :37:55.supporters for the first time since the World Cup, but the players will

:37:56. > :37:58.be buzzing now, and they know there is a real competition for places in

:37:59. > :38:00.this group, fantastic footballers in this squad, fantastic footballers on

:38:01. > :38:02.the bench tonight. We will make changes with an opportunity for new

:38:03. > :38:05.players to come in. For us it is about keeping the snowball rolling,

:38:06. > :38:10.building momentum and improving our performance. So a clean sheet in

:38:11. > :38:14.Germany, not too many nations in the world manage that often. How

:38:15. > :38:18.impressed were you? I think it is consolidated from the World Cup. It

:38:19. > :38:23.could easily have been flash in the pan but England have proven tonight

:38:24. > :38:27.that they are a world-class team with capabilities, and does not

:38:28. > :38:33.mention, opportunities to be what we have said is one of the best teams

:38:34. > :38:37.in the world for a long time. It wasn't the most entertaining game as

:38:38. > :38:43.such but in terms of analysis, big picture wise, what did you make of

:38:44. > :38:47.what you saw? It was pleasing. To go to Germany, as Mark said, it is

:38:48. > :38:52.difficult to get a clean sheet there, Karen Bardsley have had to

:38:53. > :38:56.make a view saves to stay in it, but we had a lot of chances and we will

:38:57. > :39:00.come away disappointed not to get a couple of goals, but it was a good

:39:01. > :39:04.performance overall. Everyone should be pleased with it. How difficult

:39:05. > :39:08.you think it was for them to go to Germany, in the middle of their

:39:09. > :39:12.season, England finished a month or more ago apart from the Chelsea

:39:13. > :39:16.players in the Champions League, with saw that affected them there as

:39:17. > :39:21.well. But compared to the other side they don't have as many injuries.

:39:22. > :39:24.You can weigh it up but it always helps when a nation is in their

:39:25. > :39:28.domestic league because they are training day in day out with their

:39:29. > :39:32.full squads whereas Chelsea and Man City will be training just with the

:39:33. > :39:38.international players to keep going at the end of a long season, which

:39:39. > :39:41.included the World Cup. It will have been advantage Germany but I don't

:39:42. > :39:48.see Germany being that intimidating any more. That's good, that's

:39:49. > :39:51.progress isn't it! In terms of how England setup, very different this

:39:52. > :39:54.time last year when they played Germany at Wembley,

:39:55. > :40:00.time last year when they played defeat, possibly more, very open

:40:01. > :40:02.that day. . Today it wasn't but how did England play today? They were

:40:03. > :40:07.very compact as you can see, did England play today? They were

:40:08. > :40:10.it nice and tight. Everyone is packed together and it is hard for

:40:11. > :40:16.the Germans to break through, and we win the ball there very well. We can

:40:17. > :40:20.get closer to our goal and maybe get chances from that. It was a lesson

:40:21. > :40:24.learned when Mark Sampson's team played Germany at Wembley on that

:40:25. > :40:31.first occasion, they were torn apart is a job number one was to ensure

:40:32. > :40:34.England are hard to break down, hunting in packs as we can see here,

:40:35. > :40:38.and it gives an opportunity, when the centre halves coming beyond the

:40:39. > :40:41.halfway line to win the ball, it means the midfield and forward line

:40:42. > :40:45.stay higher and England can press all round the pitch. How much work

:40:46. > :40:48.goes into that in training? Physically it is hard work because

:40:49. > :40:54.you are pressing constantly all round the pitch but secondly in

:40:55. > :40:59.training it is something you have two emphasised time and time again.

:41:00. > :41:01.We saw England were not just a one-dimensional team in the World

:41:02. > :41:06.Cup, they could change how they played against different teams.

:41:07. > :41:09.Tonight how they played tactically was very clever against a

:41:10. > :41:16.world-class side. There was pressure but they attacked on the counter

:41:17. > :41:21.frequently and created chances. Yes, Jordan had a couple of chances. She

:41:22. > :41:26.is very difficult, she has so much energy and breaks off the back of

:41:27. > :41:28.midfield lines well. She gives herself great opportunities, and as

:41:29. > :41:32.we have seen this season in the league, she can hit them from far

:41:33. > :41:36.out and they have all gone in. Again she find the -- finds these pockets

:41:37. > :41:41.that are difficult to get into and defend against. She will be

:41:42. > :41:46.disappointed with her own product there but she is such a good player,

:41:47. > :41:51.so young with so much more to give. She is hard to mark because she gets

:41:52. > :41:55.into midfield and the Germany centre halves so she finds the angles and

:41:56. > :41:59.receives the ball on the half term and links it well with the front

:42:00. > :42:02.three of England, so she has high energy and will do that for the full

:42:03. > :42:08.game even though she has high energy and will do that for the full game

:42:09. > :42:11.even though she's. If that pass had been further in, I think the keeper

:42:12. > :42:20.wouldn't have had a chance to get it. Great counterattack. Four people

:42:21. > :42:25.in the box against Germany away, we haven't seen that for many years,

:42:26. > :42:28.and people in the box are looking ready to score. Not many teams in

:42:29. > :42:35.the world have done that to Germany at their place so we should be

:42:36. > :42:39.excited by that. As Mark said, perhaps disappointed not to put some

:42:40. > :42:43.on the back of the net. We talked about Jordan knobs, she was not fit

:42:44. > :42:47.at the World Cup, she had a hamstring injury, played 90 minutes

:42:48. > :42:52.and couldn't play against you wonder how well England could have done

:42:53. > :42:56.with her fully fit. I know how you liked Karen Bardsley's performance.

:42:57. > :43:01.Some of the saves she pulled off tonight. They are as good as a goal,

:43:02. > :43:10.a top-class save, as Mark said, she kept them in the game basically,

:43:11. > :43:12.top-class world-class saves, and what Karen Bardsley brings, she

:43:13. > :43:15.reads the game very well. Here where Gilly Flaherty gets dragged in she

:43:16. > :43:21.holds a ground makes herself big. Joe Hart in the Premier League makes

:43:22. > :43:25.those saves, Bardsley the same. You would hedge your bets with a centre

:43:26. > :43:29.forward of Germany but Bardsley doesn't go to ground, she stands up,

:43:30. > :43:34.makes herself huge, the narrow angle, therefore, no goal to shoot

:43:35. > :43:40.up. Here, she is high off her lying, anticipating any error, being

:43:41. > :43:46.the sweeter- keeper role, to add flavour to it, does your Hank Ryfa

:43:47. > :43:53.is well! She reads the game well which is what she does. She is kept

:43:54. > :43:59.on hotels, a snapshot there from me, a slave I would expect her to

:44:00. > :44:05.make that still, strong hand, dominant, which is what England

:44:06. > :44:10.need. Let's hear from Karen Bardsley now reflecting on that performance.

:44:11. > :44:15.Let me get your thoughts. I was really pleased with the result and

:44:16. > :44:17.the way we played today. It was a quick turnaround with the

:44:18. > :44:22.preparation and the travel but we came out here with a mindset to

:44:23. > :44:29.change the rivalry between England and Germany, and make a stamp on our

:44:30. > :44:34.previous meeting in the World Cup, and ensure our performance

:44:35. > :44:38.continues. It is another good one in the books for the Lionesses so I am

:44:39. > :44:44.pleased. Is the balance tipped in the rivalry, are England more on

:44:45. > :44:49.top? I think that is the ultimate goal, obviously, there is a lot of

:44:50. > :44:54.history. But we are looking to start maybe tipping the scales in our

:44:55. > :44:59.favour. For you as a goalkeeper what is it like to keep a clean sheet in

:45:00. > :45:04.Germany? It is massive, there is a lot of history and amazing players

:45:05. > :45:09.for Germany in the past, they are still fantastic players, and in our

:45:10. > :45:16.rise, changing our mentality and the stigma, and dissolving any sort of

:45:17. > :45:20.previous ideas we had, and knowing we can match them and we are good

:45:21. > :45:24.and players, it is about having that self belief, and we had fun and

:45:25. > :45:28.played well so I am pleased. That confidence came through throughout

:45:29. > :45:33.the side but none more than so than from Karen Bardsley. The saves were

:45:34. > :45:39.not flip your lucky, she looked confident. Technically she is one of

:45:40. > :45:42.the world's best goalkeepers. When she is playing at her best she is

:45:43. > :45:45.genuinely one of the best in the world, she proved that tonight

:45:46. > :45:49.against one of the best teams. What she alluded to there is England

:45:50. > :45:53.still have the respect of German players but they no longer fear

:45:54. > :45:57.them, and that is what will tip the balance in England's favour, looking

:45:58. > :46:01.at the European Championships which England could well be favourable to

:46:02. > :46:05.win. Yes, a lot of players have talked about that confidence and

:46:06. > :46:08.looking forward to winning something now, but the manager didn't look

:46:09. > :46:13.happy on a couple of occasions with some of the defending from set

:46:14. > :46:17.pieces today. Yes, I think with how much work England do on set plays

:46:18. > :46:21.they will be disappointed with the chances Germany have. Round the back

:46:22. > :46:26.post there, there is another opportunity missed. Again, call into

:46:27. > :46:32.the box, good defending in the first phase but goes back in, second

:46:33. > :46:35.phase, the shot narrowly went wide. We don't like conceding from corners

:46:36. > :46:39.and set plays. Germany should have taken the lead with that and we

:46:40. > :46:43.cannot allow a German player to have a free header in the six yard box.

:46:44. > :46:48.England are lucky there that she didn't finish that, but at major

:46:49. > :46:56.tournaments if England are looking to win things they cannot allow that

:46:57. > :46:59.to happen. We scored a lot for us in the World Cup but didn't concede

:47:00. > :47:04.that many against and you have to have that mindset for tournaments

:47:05. > :47:07.going forward. Tonight England were very lucky that they didn't concede

:47:08. > :47:12.but it is positive that we didn't and it was goalless that is a good

:47:13. > :47:16.thing. This is what friendlies for, to practice these things. Let's hear

:47:17. > :47:21.from centre-half and Captain Steph Houghton. You have come to Germany

:47:22. > :47:30.and drawn with them 0-0, your thoughts? From our point of view it

:47:31. > :47:32.was a fantastic performance, we wanted to come here and perform, if

:47:33. > :47:37.I think back to the Bronze medal match, that was a better performance

:47:38. > :47:41.from us, to come here, get a clean sheet and create chances along the

:47:42. > :47:47.way out of season as well. The 23 that are here and also the staff,

:47:48. > :47:50.the game plan we had. As captain and defend what does it mean to be the

:47:51. > :47:55.clean sheet? That is what we are paid to do, put our bodies on the

:47:56. > :47:59.line make sure we clear balls when McGann and get around the Germans

:48:00. > :48:03.and be aggressive. When we get the ball we are composed and I felt the

:48:04. > :48:08.defence and the goalkeeper were fantastic tonight. What has changed

:48:09. > :48:13.from a year ago at Wembley, losing, too tonight, what have you and in

:48:14. > :48:18.the last year to come here and draw tonight? A year ago playing the

:48:19. > :48:22.Germans, the game plan didn't really suit us, but we were a very

:48:23. > :48:29.inexperienced team and over the last 12 months we have been on a massive

:48:30. > :48:33.journey, and to come here and get a performance like that, as a captain

:48:34. > :48:37.I am very proud of every player, and the World Cup was a fantastic

:48:38. > :48:42.tournament, and we deserve the Bronze medal. With each game we

:48:43. > :48:45.improved, now we need to set higher standards, and that is the case

:48:46. > :48:49.tonight, we need to believe in ourselves even more and play one of

:48:50. > :48:52.the best teams in the world. Germany are one of them and we give them

:48:53. > :49:01.respect but we must believe in our abilities, I think we did that

:49:02. > :49:03.tonight. So much is about believe, confidence, progress, not being

:49:04. > :49:07.overawed by the Germans. England had a few chances in the game and Jill

:49:08. > :49:09.Scott with another towards the end. Yes, something Mark Sampson has

:49:10. > :49:15.implement it has been around improving the belief. From the game

:49:16. > :49:17.tonight we did have a couple of speculative chances, Jill Scott

:49:18. > :49:22.covered a lot of ground in tonight's gain, and shooting from

:49:23. > :49:29.distance is something I know she has been working on. This was kind of

:49:30. > :49:33.Aftab, but again it shows we are opening up the Germans and creating

:49:34. > :49:39.chances, which in the we haven't done. We smiled when we saw that

:49:40. > :49:44.reaction from the German coach, it is nice to have a German coach

:49:45. > :49:48.reacting like that against England! Yes, I remember in the Bronze medal

:49:49. > :49:52.game she was frustrated, that is what we want to see because it means

:49:53. > :49:59.England are doing something well. Now we can show you action from

:50:00. > :50:02.another home nation playing today, Wales against Kazakhstan in the Euro

:50:03. > :50:05.qualifier in Haverfordwest. Wales lost the first two matches of the

:50:06. > :50:09.campaign. The commentator, Simon Davies.

:50:10. > :50:20.COMMENTATOR: Chance for Wales, it is there! Wales at last, finally, have

:50:21. > :50:24.made the breakthrough, and they are up and running in European

:50:25. > :50:27.qualifying. Tash Harding with the final touch, and it is Wales 1-0

:50:28. > :50:42.Kazakhstan. Good charge down. Up alongside here

:50:43. > :50:50.is Helen Ward, chance for Wales, two - 04 Wales make no mistake, finished

:50:51. > :51:05.by Ward, and Wales lead Kazakhstan 2-0. Could be fed here, Ward in on

:51:06. > :51:10.goal, beautiful. Helen Ward who is so deadly from that sort of range,

:51:11. > :51:12.Wales have occurred, Ward has a second, and it is Wales three 0

:51:13. > :51:28.Kazakhstan. Fish lock. Bags of room. In towards

:51:29. > :51:32.Ward, to finish it off, that is the hat-trick for Helen Ward, and she

:51:33. > :51:38.deserves it. She has made a huge difference since coming on, and she

:51:39. > :51:43.has completed the rout, and it is Wales 4-0 Kazakhstan.

:51:44. > :51:51.Really good win for Wales, the result moves them off the bottom of

:51:52. > :51:53.Group 8. All the group winners plus the best six runners-up are

:51:54. > :51:59.guaranteed automatic qualification to the Euros in a couple of years.

:52:00. > :52:07.Wales's next matches away in Israel on Tuesday. As for the other EuroPro

:52:08. > :52:15.and Mac -- Euro qualification groups, Ireland were beaten in Spain

:52:16. > :52:18.and dropped to fourth in the table. Northern Ireland's next matches

:52:19. > :52:26.tomorrow against Switzerland. A win would take them level on points with

:52:27. > :52:30.the Swiss and Italy. Look at that, Scotland top of the group! Looking

:52:31. > :52:35.good for them to qualify for Euro 2017. They are currently top as you

:52:36. > :52:40.can see, level on points with Iceland. Their next home match is at

:52:41. > :52:48.home to Macedonia on Sunday afternoon in Paisley. Full coverage

:52:49. > :52:51.of that on BBC Alba from 2:55pm. Meanwhile on BBC Two you can watch

:52:52. > :52:59.the whole of England versus Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday live from

:53:00. > :53:03.Ashton Gate in Bristol. Make sure you tune in for that one. We will

:53:04. > :53:08.talk about that China moment but first of all Scotland at the top of

:53:09. > :53:13.the group, really well placed to qualify. They are, no easy task

:53:14. > :53:16.necessarily for many of the home nations to qualify, those Scotland

:53:17. > :53:21.have made light work of it so far winning all three of their games,

:53:22. > :53:26.and would be favourites on paper out of the group to qualify. Iceland are

:53:27. > :53:31.always good as a Scandinavian team. But I fancy Scotland to qualify.

:53:32. > :53:36.Good to see super mum Helen Ward scoring a hat-trick for Wales. She

:53:37. > :53:45.is doing well, nice finishes, it is good, especially for Jayne Ludlow,

:53:46. > :53:47.great to see her on the managerial side and doing so well, so hopefully

:53:48. > :53:50.they can get up the table and potentially get first or second.

:53:51. > :53:56.Jess fish lock heavily involved with the hat-trick. Tough group, with

:53:57. > :54:01.Norway, seeded first I imagine to go through, Austria, no easy task but

:54:02. > :54:05.so far so good for Wales. Looking ahead to the England

:54:06. > :54:11.-Bosnia-Herzegovina match on Sunday in Bristol, at tickets still

:54:12. > :54:16.available? 11,000 have been sold so far, so good crowd for that, but you

:54:17. > :54:20.think that will be back to the usual situation of England dominating? I

:54:21. > :54:24.would like to think so. Certainly as long as England do not take their

:54:25. > :54:29.foot off the pedal, put in a performance at the -- as they have

:54:30. > :54:33.in the World Cup, and after tonight's game there is no reason

:54:34. > :54:39.they can't have a convincing win against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but it

:54:40. > :54:43.is a quick turnaround as some of the players alluded to, after this game,

:54:44. > :54:48.they have been in camp for a long time, had a long season, but it is a

:54:49. > :54:53.worthy homecoming and a great opportunity for England fans of the

:54:54. > :54:59.Lionesses to watch their team in action life in Bristol. England have

:55:00. > :55:02.only played one match so far, a straightforward 8-0 away victory

:55:03. > :55:04.against Estonia. How difficult is it a straightforward 8-0 away victory

:55:05. > :55:11.against Estonia. How difficult is it to play sides who are below the

:55:12. > :55:20.standard of the type of teams you want to it difficult. The

:55:21. > :55:25.expectations are to get the win but an 8-0 win is a great start to the

:55:26. > :55:31.campaign and hopefully it will be no different on Sunday but as I spent

:55:32. > :55:34.-- I suspect the team will change slightly given they have had a

:55:35. > :55:38.long, hard season, and also I think the team will not be as defensive,

:55:39. > :55:44.they will play attacking football for the home fans to see, and like

:55:45. > :55:47.we say, a first game back for the Lionesses at home so everyone is

:55:48. > :55:51.excited to see them play. It has been a long time coming, the first

:55:52. > :55:57.match back, if you went at the airport you haven't seen these

:55:58. > :56:03.players! That's it, other than domestic leagues, WSL ending

:56:04. > :56:08.recently, it is a chance for new and French players to really impress

:56:09. > :56:13.Mark Sampson -- fringe players, everyone wants to be in the

:56:14. > :56:17.Lionesses squad so these games given opportunity, like Carter against

:56:18. > :56:22.Estonia, and opportunities for players to do that. Thanks to

:56:23. > :56:26.Rachel, Aaron super mum, congratulations to you, nice to see

:56:27. > :56:29.you as well Karen, Germany have won the Euros six times in a row but a

:56:30. > :56:33.Bronze medal against them in the World Cup, now a clean sheet away

:56:34. > :56:37.from home, shows England are something of a force to be reckoned

:56:38. > :56:42.with ahead of the Euros. We will find out a bit more about them

:56:43. > :56:47.perhaps on Sunday when they take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bristol.

:56:48. > :57:03.If you cannot be there, be with us! Goodbye.

:57:04. > :57:06.Let's have a house party! We are not having a house party.

:57:07. > :57:08.I don't want people having sex in my bedroom.

:57:09. > :57:10.A policy you've stuck to for the last year.

:57:11. > :57:17.You were the only boy we ever let come on sleepovers.
