:00:12. > :00:20.That little piece of history, making me feel, this is my motivation, what

:00:21. > :00:29.I want to achieve. A lot of people have written me off. This is my

:00:30. > :00:37.life, what I have been looking forward to for the last four years.

:00:38. > :00:53.The deal and angle. -- VB all and end all.

:00:54. > :00:59.For almost four years, the best amateur boxes in Britain have been

:01:00. > :01:05.working towards this summer's Olympic Games in Brazil. The Great

:01:06. > :01:09.Britain men and women's score was spent all week living in training

:01:10. > :01:16.together in the British Institute of sport in Sheffield. A gruelling

:01:17. > :01:24.routine. I hate Monday morning. Training three times a day, I

:01:25. > :01:28.thought I could not do this, I thought my body with breakdown. I

:01:29. > :01:41.could not get used to it. It is more than 95, it is more like seven to

:01:42. > :01:46.seven. This is a huge challenge, qualifying for re-Okung are coming

:01:47. > :01:50.with a huge amount of pressure. They can afford to leave no stone

:01:51. > :01:55.unturned. We get our weight checked at half past seven. From there, half

:01:56. > :02:08.past seven, we go to the track, do our run. We are all in the same

:02:09. > :02:11.boat. Nice to have someone to talk to, I'm dreading this run, I know

:02:12. > :02:18.they are dreading it as well. Makes it seem a bit better. After that we

:02:19. > :02:23.go back, have breakfast, a little rest, then strength and

:02:24. > :02:34.conditioning. Then we have the boxing session, sparring, fax, and,

:02:35. > :02:42.skipping. It is just routine. -- pads.

:02:43. > :02:49.The 2012 Olympics brought an unprecedented level of success will

:02:50. > :02:54.GB Boxing. Nicola Adams, one of three gold medallists. The girls no

:02:55. > :02:59.working to the blueprint of their coaches in Sheffield will bring them

:03:00. > :03:03.the best chance of glory. Women's boxing is going from strength to

:03:04. > :03:07.strength. You can get certified equality coming through. They are as

:03:08. > :03:12.good as gold, sparring regularly, everybody helping each other out. It

:03:13. > :03:15.is an individual sport when you get there, but they realise with the

:03:16. > :03:22.quality of sparring and training they make the most of it so they are

:03:23. > :03:27.able to perform. Nicky is the really experienced one. European champion,

:03:28. > :03:31.Olympic champion. She is running really well. When Nicola Adams is

:03:32. > :03:36.running hard in the mornings, she performs better for the top they

:03:37. > :03:42.just like to see me in pain, dying on the track. More for their

:03:43. > :03:50.entertainment than anything else. A lovely girl, Chantelle, quiet,

:03:51. > :03:52.confident in their own ability. The real positive way Chantelle Kamran

:03:53. > :03:58.is her love for the sport. She absolutely loves it. A fully fit

:03:59. > :04:02.Savannah Marshall, with their heads right, confident, I think she's the

:04:03. > :04:09.best middleweight in the world. I never, ever thought this will become

:04:10. > :04:15.a job. Anything like that. I probably have the best job in the

:04:16. > :04:18.world, really. She has real quality, former world champion, very young,

:04:19. > :04:23.very ambitious and stop she has been injured, she knows she's injury

:04:24. > :04:28.free, her confidence should be up, she should go for it. The women's

:04:29. > :04:34.game has moved on, at least 8-10 quality females at every weight. No

:04:35. > :04:40.easy medals, the girls have to get it right, listen to tactics, stay

:04:41. > :04:45.calm, boxed their way through this qualifying, hopefully onto a medal

:04:46. > :04:50.in Brazil. No easy task, all three are capable of doing it. The first

:04:51. > :04:54.chance to qualify for the Olympics would see the girls face the best in

:04:55. > :05:00.Europe. Only a place in their weight category final would be good enough.

:05:01. > :05:04.In 2012 Nicola Adams changed the face of sport forever, becoming the

:05:05. > :05:10.first female Olympic gold-medal boxing winner. Now a gold medal here

:05:11. > :05:14.would put on the verge of creating used again, as she is to become the

:05:15. > :05:26.first ever Olympic female to maintain a title. Nicola Adams onto

:05:27. > :05:37.the front foot. Her opponent, wearing red, this for a place in the

:05:38. > :05:42.final, and a place at Rio. Beautiful left jab from Nicola Adams. She has

:05:43. > :05:50.boxed beautifully so far. Really aggressive contest. Both Boxers

:05:51. > :05:59.going for their shots. Adams finding her range, finding her range

:06:00. > :06:05.wonderfully. Picking her shots. The reigning Olympic champion will go

:06:06. > :06:15.through to Rio 2016. I am on the road to Rio, amazing feeling.

:06:16. > :06:19.Successful Nicola. The 33 Ralph was not yet -- 33-year-old was not

:06:20. > :06:25.content with qualifying, adding another medal to her collection. For

:06:26. > :06:28.Savannah Marshall, the European qualifiers would prove to be a

:06:29. > :06:32.painful experience. Sea -- she suffered a defeat in her

:06:33. > :06:57.first match. Chantelle also suffering a defeat in

:06:58. > :07:03.her match. I'm seeing friends and family. I had a week off, training

:07:04. > :07:11.at home, but different to Sheffield training. I came back to my camp.

:07:12. > :07:16.Monday, back to Sheffield. Saturday and Sunday, just catching up with my

:07:17. > :07:22.family and friends. Where you always into combat sports? Mainly kick

:07:23. > :07:27.boxing, when I was really young. There is a picture of me, really

:07:28. > :07:35.young. My first-ever tournament. I was about 13. What did your mum and

:07:36. > :07:39.dad think? To begin with they thought I was going through a phase,

:07:40. > :07:45.Notts eating with this. My dad, did not like the fact I was fighting. My

:07:46. > :07:50.mum has been the one taking me on to get into the ring. My dad came

:07:51. > :07:55.around to seeing I was good at it, dedicated. He became one of my

:07:56. > :08:02.biggest fans. These are the world medals in kick boxing. I was world

:08:03. > :08:07.champion, British champion, five Nations champions. And European

:08:08. > :08:14.champion. Come here, Guinness. Scared of the camera! I was gutted,

:08:15. > :08:18.did not qualify in the Europeans. I shut down from Aaron Baddeley for

:08:19. > :08:23.about two days. Did not contact my parents, they were worried sick. I

:08:24. > :08:27.wanted to do it my way. Straightaway, speaking to my coach

:08:28. > :08:31.at home. Spike Lee my brother, we had a massive phone conversation.

:08:32. > :08:38.Started speaking to my friends gradually, that took me awhile. The

:08:39. > :08:43.worlds, hopefully my time. I will graft a bit extra, put more working.

:08:44. > :08:49.I'm hungry for it. When I was out there, did not get altercation, I

:08:50. > :08:54.was like, I need to qualify. You realise how much it means to you.

:08:55. > :08:56.When I did not get it, I realised this means everything, nothing

:08:57. > :09:18.seemed important anymore. This is all I want.

:09:19. > :09:28.Kazakhstan, qualifying. My coaches somewhere around here, I have known

:09:29. > :09:35.since I was 16. Now she is watching me, seeing the progress into an

:09:36. > :09:40.athlete. She was quiet, timid 15-year-old. I thought, OK, see what

:09:41. > :09:46.we can do. Straightaway, she amazed me. When she started training with

:09:47. > :09:51.the bigger guys, even then, her boxing was shining through. Some of

:09:52. > :09:57.the adult guys were like, who is this youngster shoving us up? My

:09:58. > :10:03.opinion was not really women and boxing. Chantelle changed my opinion

:10:04. > :10:07.of that. She had already been kick boxing when she came to us. She was

:10:08. > :10:15.looking to just improve her hands. What I saw of her, when I took on

:10:16. > :10:16.the pads, I felt her energy, she changed my opinion on women and

:10:17. > :10:27.boxing. With one more chance to qualify for

:10:28. > :10:31.the Olympics, Chantelle would need to be at her best at the World

:10:32. > :10:40.Championship in Kazakhstan, where only a top four finish would secure

:10:41. > :10:43.a seat on the road to Rio. Started simply, 44 second knockout in her

:10:44. > :10:50.first bout. We're on our way, Chantelle Kamran working effectively

:10:51. > :10:56.behind her jab. We have a coming together. That is harsh. Two brings,

:10:57. > :11:03.something audible from the other ring. The other Boxer causing,

:11:04. > :11:11.Kamran well within her rights to take a shot, she has been issued

:11:12. > :11:19.with a warning. Working to the body, looking to tire her opponent out.

:11:20. > :11:25.Haldon, a warning for holding. We mentioned the fact that her opponent

:11:26. > :11:29.would have to look as she conducts herself. They warning each way.

:11:30. > :11:36.Coming into the final round, closing seconds. They are proving to be the

:11:37. > :11:43.equal of one another. Good right hand from Cameron in response. Very

:11:44. > :11:49.little in this. Successful two shot Salvo from her opponent. The action

:11:50. > :11:55.has stopped. That is indeed the concluding Bell for this contest. A

:11:56. > :12:04.hard-fought encounter, in the second preliminary round.

:12:05. > :12:11.She is a split decision victor. Over Great Britain's Chantelle Kamran. I

:12:12. > :12:16.think she's desperately unlucky in this contest. Really do. A crushing

:12:17. > :12:22.defeat ending Chantelle's Olympic dream. We are very disappointed.

:12:23. > :12:29.She's one of the hardest working people in the squad. A real nip and

:12:30. > :12:35.tuck affair. Unfortunately on the wrong end of a close one. Very

:12:36. > :12:39.disappointed, as we all are. Chantelle is a brilliant fighter,

:12:40. > :12:45.one of the best in the world, I hope she can come back. Brilliant role

:12:46. > :12:48.model for female boxing because of her fighting spirit and dedication.

:12:49. > :12:52.She has travelled around the world, fighting and beating the best. Does

:12:53. > :13:03.not matter what happens now, I'm proud of her already. Only say

:13:04. > :13:09.weight Katie Taylor, the Irish legend was still looking to qualify.

:13:10. > :13:16.She had to settle for bronze, after being defeated by Estelle Mossely

:13:17. > :13:20.will in the any final. -- in the semifinal. In 2012, Savannah

:13:21. > :13:26.Marshall was the best middleweight in the world. Years of injuries,

:13:27. > :13:32.followed by unlikely defeat in Turkey, in the European qualifying

:13:33. > :13:38.have left her hopes on the balance. I wanted to be a teacher, everything

:13:39. > :13:44.you could think of, apart from a boxer. I first started when I was

:13:45. > :13:50.12, just friends, go into the boxing gym, I went along. The only girl in

:13:51. > :13:56.the club, for a good few years. Did not bother me, I was comfortable

:13:57. > :14:00.training with other boys. My mum and dad never said anything, friends did

:14:01. > :14:07.not say anything, or just accepted. I am lucky, really. I love it, my

:14:08. > :14:16.gym. Some of these bags, I have battered. My home. No other place I

:14:17. > :14:20.would rather train. Took me two years to get my first bout. I

:14:21. > :14:27.remember being really nervous, would not tell anyone, not even my mum or

:14:28. > :14:32.dad until a couple of days before. I am boxing in Birmingham, in two

:14:33. > :14:33.days. Did not want them going on about it, so I would get more

:14:34. > :14:45.nervous. She has done it, Savannah Marshall

:14:46. > :14:49.takes the gold. When I won the worlds, I thought I am all right at

:14:50. > :14:58.this. I am good. The reigning World Championship gold medallist is Great

:14:59. > :15:02.Britain's Savannah Marshall. In the Olympics, I was ranked number one,

:15:03. > :15:12.the favourite to win gold. It was all just too much for me. Really got

:15:13. > :15:17.on to me. I remember thinking what the occasion was, everybody talking

:15:18. > :15:24.about it. Something like 20,000 people in the arena. I had never box

:15:25. > :15:28.in front of that many people, everybody was set in stone that I

:15:29. > :15:32.was going to win gold. Only needed to win one fight for bronze. Even

:15:33. > :15:38.winning that, my life would be changed forever, what I have to do.

:15:39. > :15:43.I remember thinking, I want to get home, go home. When I was at home, I

:15:44. > :15:49.was relieved I had left little behind. Took me the best part of two

:15:50. > :15:53.years to get over. After the Olympics I wanted to get back in the

:15:54. > :15:59.ring and truth I was good enough. A lot of people have written me off

:16:00. > :16:02.since London, I have not been about. Two or three tournaments, then going

:16:03. > :16:11.missing for six months through injury. I had one operation, then

:16:12. > :16:16.three, I'm still here, still number one. Still fighting to qualify. I am

:16:17. > :16:21.strong, looking forward to it. Got one more chance now. Go out and

:16:22. > :16:39.do it! With her final chance arriving at

:16:40. > :16:43.the World Championships, Savannah Marshall would face Li where the

:16:44. > :16:57.prize was a place in Rio. Savannah Marshall competing in her

:16:58. > :17:02.third bout of the tournament. She's made a pretty bright start here, the

:17:03. > :17:07.boxer wearing blue. So has Li as well. You would expect nothing less

:17:08. > :17:10.when you are taking on the World Championship silver medallist and

:17:11. > :17:13.tournament number three seed. Savannah Marshall getting to work

:17:14. > :17:22.behind a lovely left hand. The second of the jabs did get through.

:17:23. > :17:26.Working well behind the jab, started fairly well. That wasn't a bad right

:17:27. > :17:32.hand. It is important again that when she lands those shots, if she

:17:33. > :17:37.does fall in, she's got to switch the attack downstairs and doesn't

:17:38. > :17:43.want to be holding on the inside. Or letting her opponent hold her. She

:17:44. > :17:49.needs to work when she is in the clinches. She's got the benefit of a

:17:50. > :17:55.slightly longer reach. She needs to keep it long and, as you say, keep

:17:56. > :18:04.popping them straight shots out. The third preliminary round, Li had a

:18:05. > :18:07.really comprehensive victory over the Swedish boxer, who has made it

:18:08. > :18:13.through to the Olympic Games already.

:18:14. > :18:32.Both of them will be coming in full of confidence here. Again, we have

:18:33. > :18:38.got confusion. We have had that on a few occasions - two rings in

:18:39. > :18:44.operation, both using a similar-sounding bell. Both boxers

:18:45. > :18:50.broke off. That bell concludes this round. That a fair reflection of the

:18:51. > :18:58.round of boxing we have just seen. Judges A and C favouring Marshall,

:18:59. > :19:12.Judge B favouring Li. You need a big round now. Try and get hold of her

:19:13. > :19:16.now. The instructions clear from Li. First round was split, Judge B

:19:17. > :19:21.favouring the work of Li, Judges A and C favouring the work of

:19:22. > :19:25.Marshall. The two boxers having moments of success during these

:19:26. > :19:29.exchanges, but perhaps the eye-catching shot during that

:19:30. > :19:40.cluster of punches was the clean, long left hook landed by Savannah

:19:41. > :19:46.Marshall. Lee wants Marshall to work hard off the jab. If she misses the

:19:47. > :19:52.target, she can fall in a little bit. He wants her to work better

:19:53. > :19:56.with the jab. That was a nice shot. Measure the distance with that punch

:19:57. > :20:03.and let the back hand go. Use your jab as a range finder to make sure

:20:04. > :20:07.you know your back hand is hitting. If you are getting behind your jab,

:20:08. > :20:13.like Lee is saying, you will know whether it is going to land or not.

:20:14. > :20:26.Right hand to the body wasn't too far away from Marshall.

:20:27. > :20:37.Grappling at centre ring now. It's Marshall who is operating out of

:20:38. > :20:40.centre ring, runs into a one-two combination. That was good, keeping

:20:41. > :20:45.her opponent on the outside. You are showing the judges that you are in

:20:46. > :20:51.control in terms of the movement, you are dictating things. A good

:20:52. > :20:54.right hand to the body from Li. Some lovely defensive work from Savannah

:20:55. > :20:59.Marshall. She blocked a lovely right hand from her opponent who threw the

:21:00. > :21:05.shot and kept that left hand nice and high. Good defensive work from

:21:06. > :21:11.Marshall. Another competitive round of boxing. Li, the tournament number

:21:12. > :21:16.three seed, finds herself trailing for Judges A and C by two points, it

:21:17. > :21:24.is tied up for Judge B. Savannah Marshall is in the ascendancy? She

:21:25. > :21:32.is starting to work well. She's just getting a bit too close. To the

:21:33. > :21:40.second half of this 75kg middleweight quarterfinal. Lee

:21:41. > :21:47.encouraging Savannah Marshall, telling her she needs a big round.

:21:48. > :21:53.There is a cracking right hand from Marshall, swivelling the head of Li.

:21:54. > :21:57.Lee wants Marshall to work with the same urgency and intensity as she

:21:58. > :22:07.has been showing, to keep her on her toes. And I think she's responding

:22:08. > :22:13.well. The right hook wasn't too far away from Li. Won an Asian Games

:22:14. > :22:21.silver at the tournament in South Korea in 2014. She lost to a boxer

:22:22. > :22:25.from North Korea. She demonstrating herself as a capable opponent during

:22:26. > :22:30.the course of that tournament and here she is, she's already qualified

:22:31. > :22:36.for the Olympic Games. But she wants some World Championship hardware

:22:37. > :22:43.here to add to be what she won two years ago -- to add to what she won

:22:44. > :22:50.two years ago. She's falling in and letting Li get close and she needs

:22:51. > :22:55.to lean back a bit and give herself more space. You can see her trying

:22:56. > :23:05.to get through with that uppercut. It's been a bit untidy in this

:23:06. > :23:11.round. A good one-two combination from Marshall... That is when she is

:23:12. > :23:16.at her best, when she has her long levers in someone else's face.

:23:17. > :23:21.Working behind that jab, that is important, that set up that one-two

:23:22. > :23:27.combination there. Straight shots, that is her strength, Savannah

:23:28. > :23:33.Marshall. Uppercut attempted by Li. Another competitive round of boxing.

:23:34. > :23:41.Lee into the blue corner immediately. Marshall leads on all

:23:42. > :23:43.three scorecards by three points for Judges A and C and by one point for

:23:44. > :24:03.Judge B. Plenty of encouragement from Lee as

:24:04. > :24:09.there is for Li, as she rises from her corner. This is the fourth and

:24:10. > :24:12.final round. That last round, it was a close round, but they gave

:24:13. > :24:17.Savannah Marshall the benefit of the doubt because she is trying to box

:24:18. > :24:24.and she is trying to keep it at long-range. Li wants to work on the

:24:25. > :24:29.inside. Lee wants Savannah Marshall to keep it going. He knows she is so

:24:30. > :24:34.close to Rio. She has to keep it going. She is boxing well. She is

:24:35. > :24:37.keeping it tight. Working behind that straight left hand, straight

:24:38. > :24:41.right. She is boxing well. She has to keep it going here, so close.

:24:42. > :24:47.Less than a minute and a half away from the Olympic Games. That is what

:24:48. > :24:51.it is all about. Most certainly is. Li has already qualified, China one

:24:52. > :25:02.of two nations who have sent three boxers through in every weight

:25:03. > :25:08.class. Morocco have done so as well. Li, she's come here after World

:25:09. > :25:12.Championship hardware to add to her burgeoning medal collection.

:25:13. > :25:18.Savannah Marshall knows that it is Rio or bust and that is why she is

:25:19. > :25:21.so keen to get her hand raised in this particular quarterfinal because

:25:22. > :25:29.the final four in the middleweight tournament will go through to the

:25:30. > :25:35.Olympic Games this summer. She is trying to spoil Savannah here, Li.

:25:36. > :25:39.She is holding on, getting in close. Marshall working well with that jab

:25:40. > :25:43.and that one-two. She knows she's got to keep working, got to keep

:25:44. > :25:47.working on the inside. Working well at range, but carry on the attacks

:25:48. > :25:56.on the inside and she is doing it. I think she's outworking Li in this

:25:57. > :26:00.round. Both boxers will be feeling the pace but it is an immense prize

:26:01. > :26:06.that awaits the victor. That is why they are continuing to compete with

:26:07. > :26:09.everything they have. Right hand was blocked effectively by Marshall. At

:26:10. > :26:13.the conclusion of that round, Savannah Marshall raises her arms

:26:14. > :26:20.immediately as she returns to her blue corner. Let's get the official

:26:21. > :26:26.announcement to see who is through to the final four. Rio 2016 in the

:26:27. > :26:32.case of Savannah Marshall Savannah Marshall. You always get nervous

:26:33. > :26:40.when the results take this long to come through. You can see... The

:26:41. > :26:43.winner by a unanimous decision, in the blue corner, it is Savannah

:26:44. > :26:49.Marshall. A unanimous points decision winner. She has got herself

:26:50. > :26:54.a World Championship bronze at least, but the biggest prize of all

:26:55. > :26:59.is an appearance at a second successive Olympic Games. I'm so

:27:00. > :27:03.happy. I got beat in the first qualifier and I went and done it in

:27:04. > :27:08.this one. I'm all over at the moment. My emotions are all over. It

:27:09. > :27:15.hasn't sunk in. Were you beginning to wonder? Yes, I was thinking, oh

:27:16. > :27:19.what is the point? What is the point? But now it's all paid off.

:27:20. > :27:26.This is the first time in a good year that I have been injury-free

:27:27. > :27:30.and I have medaled at a major. After four years of hard work, Savannah

:27:31. > :27:36.Marshall 's success means she will have the chance to avenge that

:27:37. > :27:39.London Olympic heartbreak. Before that, there is a World Championship

:27:40. > :27:54.semifinal to face. Two rounds completed. There are two

:27:55. > :27:58.rounds to go. Savannah Marshall trailing by two points, 20-18

:27:59. > :28:18.across-the-board. Fontijn is picking off the advancing

:28:19. > :28:26.Marshall. She doesn't want to let this become psychological. She wants

:28:27. > :28:28.to keep her hands up on the way out. Fontijn's movement proving effective

:28:29. > :28:33.on the back foot, taking the long route around the boxing ring. She's

:28:34. > :28:38.got her there, she needs to work. That is where she needs to work. You

:28:39. > :28:47.are right. On the inside. Just a little bit more. Sometimes she plods

:28:48. > :28:57.forward and she is a bit predictable so she needs the odd feint to show

:28:58. > :29:02.her opponent something different. She is still taking the contest to

:29:03. > :29:15.Fontijn. She's got to try and block a couple of shots going forward. The

:29:16. > :29:18.second half of this round now. That was parried by Marshall and she

:29:19. > :29:22.lands with a big right cross. Look at the good footwork from Fontijn as

:29:23. > :29:34.she pirouettes back to the middle. A little bit of clinching perhaps

:29:35. > :29:38.for the first time in the contest now. It's being fought at quite a

:29:39. > :29:41.clip for two big middleweight boxers. Fontijn trying a shot

:29:42. > :29:43.underneath. Savannah Marshall remaining on the front foot and

:29:44. > :29:53.poking out that left jab. Can you get the range with a

:29:54. > :30:10.backhand, missing with the jab and the backhand. Exactly what I want, I

:30:11. > :30:14.need you to be busy. Drag it in. Fairly happy with the last round.

:30:15. > :30:19.Interesting to see how the judges see it. Going forward, nice shot

:30:20. > :30:25.from Marshall. Still needs to block the odd shot coming back. She

:30:26. > :30:30.probably has two improve the accuracy. The quality is not quite

:30:31. > :30:40.there from Savannah. Let's look at the schools. Lee was quite pleased

:30:41. > :30:45.with our brand. Trailing by one point from that observer, and three

:30:46. > :30:52.points from the other judges. As we go into the third and final round.

:30:53. > :31:00.The number two ranked boxer in the world, Fontijn in a commanding

:31:01. > :31:03.position. Leading by three points. Savannah Marshall has been

:31:04. > :31:12.committed, taking it to her opponent. The greatest success has

:31:13. > :31:18.been coming from the flashing blue fists of Fontijn. Marshall has had

:31:19. > :31:22.success of her own. Fontijn will know she has been in the contest.

:31:23. > :31:28.Can Marshall do something Jim Matic to overturn the deficit she is

:31:29. > :31:32.facing in this third and final round, as she attempts to get to her

:31:33. > :31:37.second World Championship final. She has been a touch unlucky with the

:31:38. > :31:43.scoring, to be quite honest. Some of these rounds have been quite close.

:31:44. > :31:49.Sadly not rewarding her with that from foot pressure. Getting caught

:31:50. > :31:54.occasionally coming in. I have seen a lot of judges that preferred that

:31:55. > :32:02.from foot boxing, rewarding her for that, but not tonight. Lee Pullin

:32:03. > :32:12.giving instructions from the corner. Both boxers booking their place in

:32:13. > :32:15.Rio here, after being eliminated from the European Championship in

:32:16. > :32:19.the qualifying round. They faced a fair amount of pressure here.

:32:20. > :32:23.Savannah Marshall contesting her second Olympic games, Fontijn there

:32:24. > :32:29.for the first time. Looks as if she will improve on her bronze medal she

:32:30. > :32:36.picked up two years ago. Good right hand from Marshall. The boxers

:32:37. > :32:42.exchanging jerks. The insurance she has built up from two judges made

:32:43. > :32:50.this fourth and final round a very difficult task indeed. The sixth

:32:51. > :32:59.time these two boxers have shared a ring. One would think the advantage

:33:00. > :33:10.will continue to be in Fontijn's favour. She makes it through to her

:33:11. > :33:14.first World Championship final. Savannah Marshall coming away with a

:33:15. > :33:20.World Championship bronze to add to the one she won four years ago. Very

:33:21. > :33:26.frustrating, she is a world-class fighter. Happy I'm losing to the

:33:27. > :33:34.best. Happy I am qualified. I have eight weeks. I will get there in the

:33:35. > :33:38.end. What has the week done for your confidence, self-esteem and belief?

:33:39. > :33:43.This time last week, I was thinking, what will I do if I do not qualify?

:33:44. > :33:49.I might have to get a new job. Now I know I do not. Clarissa Shields

:33:50. > :33:57.eventually taking the world middleweight title. Since winning

:33:58. > :34:02.gold in London, Nicola Adams' life has changed radically. Nicola Adams

:34:03. > :34:09.has just made history, brilliantly boxing her way to the first-ever

:34:10. > :34:17.women's Olympic boxing title. That was an amazing year. I went with the

:34:18. > :34:21.build-up, all the people, how excited everybody was about the

:34:22. > :34:27.Olympics. How excited I was to be a part of it. I remember thinking,

:34:28. > :34:33.this is a dream come true. The knockdown surprised me the most. I

:34:34. > :34:39.was in shock myself. I heard the crowd, going back to the final, I

:34:40. > :34:44.needed to focus. Didn't she boxed brilliantly from the opening bell to

:34:45. > :34:50.the last. I was like, I did it, I'm Olympic champion. The most amazing

:34:51. > :34:57.feeling of my life was up I really miss my dogs, when I'm away. My mum

:34:58. > :35:07.sends me videos. Dexter. Easy Doberman. -- he is. Pretty safe.

:35:08. > :35:17.This is my medal from the European Championships. It was the qualifiers

:35:18. > :35:24.for the Rio Olympics. Really happy about this one, the key to me going

:35:25. > :35:28.to Rio. Does not end there for me. I want to go to the World

:35:29. > :35:34.Championships in a few weeks, and win another gold medal. I have a lot

:35:35. > :35:41.of hard training to do. We have a camp next week. To days my rest day.

:35:42. > :35:51.Chill out on the sofa, with the dog. Watching some Game Of Thrones. Going

:35:52. > :35:55.into these qualifiers, I felt like a more rounded athlete. I know but the

:35:56. > :36:00.pressure is like. I know exactly how I will feel getting into the ring,

:36:01. > :36:08.getting to fight for my place in Rio. Is there more pressure on you?

:36:09. > :36:13.I actually thrive under pressure. It makes me perform better than I would

:36:14. > :36:19.normally. Normally I am, yes, OK, I will go and win this. But I really

:36:20. > :36:26.have two windows. More on the line, what makes me perform that little

:36:27. > :36:29.bit extra. The same thing at the worlds, I really want the gold

:36:30. > :36:35.medal. Never had one at the World Championships. I have a Europeans,

:36:36. > :36:41.the Olympics, Commonwealth, the only one I am missing. I always wanted to

:36:42. > :36:46.do the second Olympics. I wanted to do the Commonwealth Games, the first

:36:47. > :36:54.time we had women's boxing, I wanted that bit of history. Then on to Rio.

:36:55. > :37:00.No double Olympic champion in boxing, male or female. I wanted the

:37:01. > :37:08.extremes to be. Calm down. He has only moved. He has started up again.

:37:09. > :37:13.With Olympic: vacation already secured. Nicola's sole focus for the

:37:14. > :37:18.World Championship, is claiming the last title to elude her. After

:37:19. > :37:22.battling through a tricky quarterfinal, Nicola finds herself

:37:23. > :37:29.one step away from the gold-medal bout. Into the second round of this

:37:30. > :37:38.51 kilograms flyweight semifinal. The boxer wearing red, in the south

:37:39. > :37:46.-- southpaw stance coming out quickly. She is the tournament

:37:47. > :37:52.number eight seed, second encounter between these two boxers. They met a

:37:53. > :37:57.couple of years ago, Nicola Adams coming out on top stop how

:37:58. > :38:04.significant will that result the? Her opponent 26 years of age. One of

:38:05. > :38:14.a four strong Kazakhstan boxing team. Nice jab. This contest,

:38:15. > :38:23.suiting the length, starting to wait, bringing her opponent into the

:38:24. > :38:43.shop, getting the timing right. A southpaw can be easier to hit. Nicky

:38:44. > :38:50.is a seasoned professional. She knows how to handle herself. She can

:38:51. > :39:03.switch itself, like she has done there. The pace is seizing Nicola

:39:04. > :39:09.Adams. Shekerbekova's feet are too slow. Allowing Adams to use the jab,

:39:10. > :39:16.the straight right hand. Doing well at this stage. In the Olympic Ric

:39:17. > :39:23.classes, 51 kilograms one of the weights contested in Rio. By making

:39:24. > :39:31.it through to the bronze medal bout, insuring the passage of all of the

:39:32. > :39:34.semifinalists, to Rio 2016. Now they are boxing for the best possible

:39:35. > :39:43.World Championship medal. Let's listen to Dave. Do not step in.

:39:44. > :39:49.Saying do not step in. Once to bring the opponent onto the shot. If she

:39:50. > :39:56.steps in, and a full short, Shekerbekova coming back with her

:39:57. > :40:02.own counters. Nicola Adams taking both of the opening rounds. All

:40:03. > :40:05.three of the observing judges putting her in a strong position

:40:06. > :40:10.going into the second half of the contest

:40:11. > :40:21.There. Nicola Adams a three-time World Championship silver medallist.

:40:22. > :40:27.Looking to book a place into another World Championship final, looking to

:40:28. > :40:33.contest the gold. Ending up in the southpaw stance momentarily. Looking

:40:34. > :40:38.comfortable, but taking a swift left-hand from Shekerbekova. Two

:40:39. > :40:45.rounds down, getting desperate. One can expect an increase in tempo and

:40:46. > :40:54.workrate from the boxer in the bread. She has deceivingly long

:40:55. > :41:00.arms. She does not need to step in, get involved. She can just work off

:41:01. > :41:07.the jab, she is getting involved in silly shots. Another left-hand from

:41:08. > :41:13.Shekerbekova. She is a toughie, Nicola. She will stand and trade,

:41:14. > :41:22.does not mind taking a shot. She is tough? If you want... If you cannot

:41:23. > :41:33.beat her boxing, and you want to trade, she would trade with you.

:41:34. > :41:41.The 2010 Asian champion, Shekerbekova. Gold medal 54

:41:42. > :41:48.kilograms. She was a gold medallist flyweight as well. Second appearance

:41:49. > :41:54.at a World Championship. Adams continuing to work behind that long

:41:55. > :42:00.left-hand. When she utilises that shot, Shekerbekova becomes a

:42:01. > :42:03.peripheral figure in the contest. Great movement from Nicola, in and

:42:04. > :42:10.out with the feet, scoring well with the jab. Good boxing skills and

:42:11. > :42:14.variation with the footwork. Shekerbekova had her moments during

:42:15. > :42:23.the course of the third round. Couple of periods of success with

:42:24. > :42:30.eye-catching left-hands. You have to keep your shape. You cannot just

:42:31. > :42:36.jump in. Two minutes now, sharp, everything sharp. Good work from

:42:37. > :42:42.Nicola Adams in this round, her feet were good, in and out. Dave Alloway

:42:43. > :42:48.wants to cut out the mistakes. He knows she's home and dry, just needs

:42:49. > :42:55.to keep the boxing going. There it is, third round completed. All three

:42:56. > :43:00.of them scoring the same way. Fourth and final round. Shekerbekova, the

:43:01. > :43:06.tournament number eight seed coming out quickly, she is trailing, having

:43:07. > :43:09.conceded all three of the completed rounds to Nicola Adams, the

:43:10. > :43:14.tournament number five seed. Ranked sixth in the world. Tamsin is the

:43:15. > :43:21.reigning Olympic and European, Commonwealth champion. All

:43:22. > :43:25.multisport events. Nicola Adams embracing stage of the multisport

:43:26. > :43:31.competitions. How she would dearly love to secure her first World

:43:32. > :43:36.Championship gold medal. One foot in the final already. As Dave Alloway

:43:37. > :43:41.pointed out, in calm fashion. Scoring with a beautiful right hand,

:43:42. > :43:46.before turning the tables on Shekerbekova. All she has to produce

:43:47. > :43:50.is two minutes of mistake free boxing, and she is through to

:43:51. > :43:55.another World Championship final. Shekerbekova does not want to come

:43:56. > :44:00.in while, that will suit Nicky down to the ground, just popping her

:44:01. > :44:09.rough with singles and doubles. She is far too experienced, for someone

:44:10. > :44:15.to walk in straight. Not too long ago Kazakhstan were over his

:44:16. > :44:19.sparring with us, she sparred with Nicola. Psychologically going into

:44:20. > :44:24.the contest, Nicola was very confident. She has a victory over

:44:25. > :44:33.her as well, and the recent sparring sessions. That is good work by Rob

:44:34. > :44:47.McCracken, inviting someone like as Xstrata and over. -- like Kazakhstan

:44:48. > :44:51.favour. Kazakhstan had qualified three out of three for gold-medal

:44:52. > :44:57.bout stop one suspects they are going to suffer their first loss ear

:44:58. > :45:00.contesting the bronze medal bouts. Nicola Adams has not put a foot

:45:01. > :45:06.wrong during the course of this bout. A second contest against

:45:07. > :45:07.Shekerbekova. Nicola Adams owning a repeat victory. Let's get the

:45:08. > :45:20.official announcement. Nicola Adams is through to her

:45:21. > :45:26.fourth World Championship gold-medal bout. I knew I was going to be up

:45:27. > :45:30.against it. I had to give it everything I had. I took care of it.

:45:31. > :45:34.It is business in there. That is my office. I have come to get that gold

:45:35. > :45:39.medal. Hopefully, I can get it tomorrow. This means everything to

:45:40. > :45:44.me. If I can complete the set... I don't think happy expresses how

:45:45. > :45:48.happy I will be. It is finals day in Astana. All eyes on Nicola. Time to

:45:49. > :46:16.shine for Britain's "golden girl". The opening bell sounds in this

:46:17. > :46:22.World Championship gold medal bout in the Women's Fly (51kg).

:46:23. > :46:28.She is looking for her first World Championship gold medal having come

:46:29. > :46:33.away with three silver medals in the past. Her opponent competing in her

:46:34. > :46:38.fourth World Championships here, this her best ever result.

:46:39. > :46:45.Surpassing the quarterfinals that she made back in 2010 and that is

:46:46. > :46:48.Peamwilai Laopeam of Thailand. It is important that she establishes that

:46:49. > :46:53.jab. We have said it many times about Nicola. Once she gets into a

:46:54. > :46:57.rhythm behind that shot, she sets up that back hand. She led with a right

:46:58. > :47:01.hand and fell short and got caught with the long left hook from her

:47:02. > :47:06.opponent. It is time to get behind that jab, establish a lead and then

:47:07. > :47:11.everything will come from behind that punch. She wants to get the

:47:12. > :47:17.first round out of the way and then move into the second round. It is

:47:18. > :47:24.quite tight at the minute. They are both throwing shots, blocking, both

:47:25. > :47:28.guards are good at the minute. Fifth bout of the tournament for both of

:47:29. > :47:32.these boxers and Nicola Adams has faced a whole variety of styles and

:47:33. > :47:39.athletes of differing stature as well. Her quarterfinal win was

:47:40. > :47:43.incredibly close fought over the talented 20-year-old from Chinese

:47:44. > :47:46.Taipei. She was considerably taller than Nicola Adams. The youngster

:47:47. > :47:52.acquitted herself very well indeed but Adams found a way to solve the

:47:53. > :47:57.puzzle but it was a close contest. More comfortable victory yesterday

:47:58. > :48:05.over the tournament number eight seed from Kazakhstan. Both boxers

:48:06. > :48:10.looking to establish their rhythm and range during this opening round.

:48:11. > :48:17.As you would expect, it's a cagey start to this bout for World

:48:18. > :48:24.Championship gold in the flyweight division. What we need to be doing

:48:25. > :48:29.is goes twice, so be sensible when you are moving away. You are not

:48:30. > :48:33.getting hit, which is good. And sharp counters when she does come to

:48:34. > :48:37.you. So we need that pressure on the front foot. Good advice from Dave

:48:38. > :48:42.there. He is quite pleased with what she is doing. She is working behind

:48:43. > :48:46.her jab. He is talking about the good foot adjustments but she's got

:48:47. > :48:53.good movement with the feet, she can move in-and-out, and she is very

:48:54. > :49:01.skilful doing that. Her movement is part of her strongest asset. Two of

:49:02. > :49:04.the judges have given it to Nicky. The scorecard a fair reflection of

:49:05. > :49:08.what was a cautious opening round. Nicola Adams starting the round on

:49:09. > :49:11.the front foot trying to establish that left jab. Judges A and B

:49:12. > :49:15.scoring the opening round for Nicola Adams. That is a good one-two

:49:16. > :49:19.combination. Back comes Laopeam with a right hand of her own. A good

:49:20. > :49:26.start from Nicola Adams in this round. She is on that front foot

:49:27. > :49:29.now. She moves in with the jab and she adjusts her feet so she comes

:49:30. > :49:35.back on the outside. She is always thinking about safety. See how she

:49:36. > :49:40.adjusted then to avoid the counters? She is clever. That is her strength

:49:41. > :49:45.- in-and-out movement. When Laopeam moves away, she moves away with her

:49:46. > :49:50.hands quite low, so I would go and go again. I think what Dave was

:49:51. > :49:56.trying to say, come a bit out of range so she can't get you but then

:49:57. > :50:00.go back in. Go back at her, yeah. Lots of feinting and the referee

:50:01. > :50:04.reminding the two boxers to engage but they are thinking and trying to

:50:05. > :50:07.fashion opens. That is a cracking right hand straight down the pipe

:50:08. > :50:15.from Adams driving Laopeam backwards. She gets herself from

:50:16. > :50:20.punching range. Good left hand to the body from Adams, who is

:50:21. > :50:27.beginning to demonstrate her variety now. This is a good portion of the

:50:28. > :50:32.round for Nicola Adams. Laopeam is struggling a bit with the movement

:50:33. > :50:38.of Adams. She is working well. That straight right hand, that one-two is

:50:39. > :50:41.a strong point for her. It is. She is trying to keep Nicky at the end

:50:42. > :50:45.of her jab, trying to get some distance. If Nicky can go and go

:50:46. > :50:51.again, she will catch her every time. She's experienced some

:50:52. > :50:54.uncomfortable moments during this round, Laopeam. There is another

:50:55. > :50:57.right hand once again. That has been a particularly profitable punch for

:50:58. > :51:03.Nicola Adams during the course of that second round. The first round,

:51:04. > :51:07.Judges A and B scoring for Adams. Judge C scoring for Laopeam. It

:51:08. > :51:12.seemed to be a far more dominant round for the reigning Olympic

:51:13. > :51:16.Champion in that second round. I thought this was a dominant round

:51:17. > :51:20.for Adams. She worked very well indeed. She stepped on it. Some good

:51:21. > :51:33.one-twos, look at this for a one-two. That is a super combination

:51:34. > :51:37.there. Well... That is a bit surprising. The scorecard in the

:51:38. > :51:47.second identical to the scorecards in the first, which is a surprise.

:51:48. > :51:54.Seconds out... Round 3. We are into the second half of this Women's Fly

:51:55. > :51:58.(51kg) in Astana. Good right hand over the top from Laopeam. Nicola

:51:59. > :52:02.Adams enjoyed what appeared to be from our commentary position a

:52:03. > :52:06.pretty dominant round, that right hand that she threw there was a

:52:07. > :52:11.particularly effective shot, she caught Laopeam with it repeatedly

:52:12. > :52:16.and, again, the spearing left hand in evidence from Nicola Adams.

:52:17. > :52:20.Judges A and B favoured the work of Adams, Judge C has favoured the

:52:21. > :52:23.boxing produced by Laopeam in both of the opening two rounds. It is

:52:24. > :52:27.important that she gets a bit closer, she doesn't want to be

:52:28. > :52:30.jumping in too much and starting the attack from too far away. She has to

:52:31. > :52:33.move in with that front foot, measure the distance with the jab

:52:34. > :52:39.and bring the right hand through. It is important that she doesn't do

:52:40. > :52:45.that from too far away because the odd occasion she may fall short.

:52:46. > :52:48.Great Britain sent five boxers to this World Championships. Nicola

:52:49. > :52:53.Adams had already qualified by winning the gold medal at the

:52:54. > :52:57.European qualification event in Samsun earlier this year. A good

:52:58. > :53:02.left-right combination from Laopeam. Perhaps the best combination of the

:53:03. > :53:08.fight for her. Nicola Adams, being the competitor that she is, will

:53:09. > :53:12.know that she will have to do something equally eye-catching to

:53:13. > :53:17.resonate in the minds of the judges. Laopeam now stamping that front foot

:53:18. > :53:22.and feinting. Trying to fashion an opening for herself. We talked

:53:23. > :53:29.before about when it is close, about them one or two things that are

:53:30. > :53:36.eye-catching so the judges see, so Nicky needs to do something in these

:53:37. > :53:40.last couple of seconds, like that. Right-hand lead wasn't too far away.

:53:41. > :53:47.The closing seconds of this second round. Just a bit of confusion

:53:48. > :53:51.between the boxers and the referee there. Another competitive round of

:53:52. > :54:02.boxing. Loads of time. Nice. Good. That's

:54:03. > :54:06.it. You have two more minutes. Don't leave anything in the tank, alright?

:54:07. > :54:11.Nice and sharp, put your front foot where it needs to be. Saying to get

:54:12. > :54:15.that front foot... She has to get a bit closer. This was a closer round.

:54:16. > :54:19.Laopeam had some success in this round. Whether she did enough to win

:54:20. > :54:26.it, I'm not so sure. She probably did on the one judge. The one judge

:54:27. > :54:30.seems to be favouring her. Again, Judge C is favouring everything that

:54:31. > :54:36.the Thai boxer is doing. She likes her style.

:54:37. > :54:43.The final round... We move into the fourth and final round and Great

:54:44. > :54:46.Britain's Nicola Adams in search of her first World Championship gold

:54:47. > :54:50.medal is leading this contest for Judges A and B by three points.

:54:51. > :54:54.Judges A and B have given Adams every round. She eats a big right

:54:55. > :55:01.hand from Laopeam. Judge C has favoured the work of the boxer in

:55:02. > :55:06.blue. So very much a question, or at least we deduce from those

:55:07. > :55:11.scorecards, that Judge C prefers the work of Laopeam, Judges A and B

:55:12. > :55:16.preferring the boxing of Adams. So potentially now less than a minute

:55:17. > :55:21.and a half between Nicola Adams and her first World Championship gold.

:55:22. > :55:24.Laopeam is sitting back and she is waiting for Adams to come into try

:55:25. > :55:28.and land that right hand. Nicky has to double up that jab. That is what

:55:29. > :55:31.she has to do, double up the jab and then throw the right hand, maybe

:55:32. > :55:34.double the attack up and keep the attack going. A single attack, she

:55:35. > :55:42.might get caught with the right hand.

:55:43. > :55:47.Nicky needs to keep that lead hand up a little bit. She keeps on

:55:48. > :55:56.getting caught over the top when she is bringing the jab back slow, or

:55:57. > :56:00.bringing it down low. Both boxers really thinking about their attacks.

:56:01. > :56:04.Trying to trigger something off which they can counter. Inside the

:56:05. > :56:10.final 30 seconds, though. Remember, a good lead right hand from Adams

:56:11. > :56:17.once again. Laopeam tried the same shot but it was a bit long. The

:56:18. > :56:21.closing stages now. Nicola Adams has one hand on the gold medal, given

:56:22. > :56:25.the status of this contest coming into the fourth and final round. And

:56:26. > :56:29.the feinting and the studying continues. Good left jab from

:56:30. > :56:36.Laopeam, the ten-second clapper has sounded. Adams on to the front foot

:56:37. > :56:40.once more. Good exchange of shots between the boxers and as the

:56:41. > :56:44.closing bell sounds, Laopeam raises her arms immediately. I suspect that

:56:45. > :56:49.is in more hope rather than expectation. Nicola Adams was

:56:50. > :56:53.leading this contest by three points for Judges A and B coming into the

:56:54. > :57:04.fourth and final round. Let's get the official announcement. The

:57:05. > :57:05.winner, the new World Champion of 2016, is the red corner, Nicola

:57:06. > :57:16.Adams! ? She's done it! She completes her

:57:17. > :57:19.gold medal collection from major tournaments by claiming her first

:57:20. > :57:25.World Championship gold. She has done so by split decision after

:57:26. > :57:28.another brilliant boxing display over Thailand's Peamwilai Laopeam.

:57:29. > :57:33.She comes away with World Championship silver. Nicola Adams is

:57:34. > :57:37.absolutely ecstatic. The reigning Olympic Champion, the reigning

:57:38. > :57:42.European Games Champion, the reigning Commonwealth Champion, she

:57:43. > :57:46.can call herself a World Champion. I can't believe it. I have finally

:57:47. > :57:50.done it. After three silver medals, I have finally got that gold. What

:57:51. > :57:53.better year to do it, the year of the Games. I have cemented my place

:57:54. > :57:58.in history as well. Quite a touch-and-go fight. She is a good

:57:59. > :58:04.opponent. She deserved to be in the finals. I gave a little bit more. I

:58:05. > :58:13.wanted it that much more. Two out of three down, I need that last one

:58:14. > :58:17.now. The champ is here. Drive, determination, dedication - a

:58:18. > :58:22.relentless will to win and a commitment to do whatever it takes

:58:23. > :58:27.to make that happen. These are the things that mark out champions,

:58:28. > :58:32.history makers. Coming back from the depths of injury and despair, to

:58:33. > :58:36.take on the world again. Inspirational. Putting it all on the

:58:37. > :58:45.line, even though the price of failure will be devastating. For

:58:46. > :58:48.Nicola and Savannah their journeys will take them to Rio this summer

:58:49. > :58:51.where the greatest prize in sport awaits.
