:00:34. > :00:38.Hello, everyone. Welcome to highlights from the World Indoor

:00:39. > :00:43.Bowls Championships at Potters. Tonight, we start with action from

:00:44. > :00:46.the final of the mixed pairs. Nick Brett and Claire Johnston were up

:00:47. > :00:51.against Paul Foster and Rebecca Field. This is how both pairs got

:00:52. > :00:56.through to the final. Foster and Field defeat the:

:00:57. > :01:04.It was Brett and Johnston who took the first set before Foster and

:01:05. > :01:07.Field hit back to take the second set 9-7. That momentum continued

:01:08. > :01:11.into the first end of the tie-break. What was to follow, though, was one

:01:12. > :01:24.of the most dramatic finishes to a final ever seen at Potters.

:01:25. > :01:29.The game has now pushed well into its second hour. I had a feeling

:01:30. > :01:35.that was probably going to be the case. It's been close to a 2.5-hour

:01:36. > :01:38.game if it goes to another end. It's been good. It's been interesting all

:01:39. > :01:42.the way through really. I haven't noticed the time actually. It's been

:01:43. > :01:54.flying through. I've enjoyed this one.

:01:55. > :02:00.Nicky's comment there - "That'll keep." I think Claire was making

:02:01. > :02:14.sure she was behind... Yes, yes, rightly so.

:02:15. > :02:21.APPLAUSE She's asking that ball to stop but

:02:22. > :02:30.it's just moved away to it's still a reasonable target. Two good bowls.

:02:31. > :02:39.I think Claire's been positive with this line. Very.

:02:40. > :02:42.Just needs to drop down, though and the extra weight might hold off.

:02:43. > :02:46.Good effort. Actually, the weight was very good. Yes, it was. I

:02:47. > :02:53.thought it was a yard heavier than that. So did I. I thought she was

:02:54. > :02:57.more aggressive, but not far away. Well, Rebecca will really be looking

:02:58. > :02:58.to try to seal this head, try to tuck the jack away.

:02:59. > :03:12.Paul looks interested. Oh, well played. Great bowl. That's

:03:13. > :03:17.better. Great bowl. That's a real good bowl there. That's going to

:03:18. > :03:21.create all sorts of havoc. Just looked to rest in somewhere,

:03:22. > :03:26.turn something, flatten it out a bit. Nicky is resisting the

:03:27. > :03:30.temptation to try and go at this. I think he'll be running at it

:03:31. > :03:35.shortly. Those shots are hard when you're not used to them when you're

:03:36. > :03:39.playing jaw shots the whole time. Trying to get down to your own to

:03:40. > :03:43.provide a shoulder but still heavy. There it goes. Nick's going to be

:03:44. > :03:55.forced into playing something very, very special here.

:03:56. > :03:59.Well, Paul, at the moment, speaking to Rebecca, just basically trying to

:04:00. > :04:03.find out where the jack will go. I think losing the shot on the spot -

:04:04. > :04:07.I think it's a fair call to cover a spot.

:04:08. > :04:10.I think you have to cover there. You know, it's... It's a hard shot to

:04:11. > :04:15.beat, Andy. Exactly. You can't really improve on

:04:16. > :04:17.the head. Yeah. If you can't improve the head, you've got to go for

:04:18. > :04:25.position bowl. Well, he's tried to cover a spot on

:04:26. > :04:29.this side, rightly so. Certainly wide enough.

:04:30. > :04:31.I think they'll be going for the spot on the other side shortly.

:04:32. > :04:39.Well, that's one Good enough.

:04:40. > :04:44.Nick really will do well to get this out of the first bowl. I don't know

:04:45. > :04:48.if he's slightly pulled that one. That's over. He's no choice. It's

:04:49. > :04:52.the only shot he has available. The problem now is that he's going to

:04:53. > :04:56.have to waste another one to get at it. Correct. It will be the other

:04:57. > :05:05.spot now. Both the spots will be covered so this is looking difficult

:05:06. > :05:17.for Nicky Brett. Yeah. Certainly wide enough again.

:05:18. > :05:23.To be honest with you, the combination of Field and Foster have

:05:24. > :05:27.one hand on the trophy. You feel Nicky must do something here, must

:05:28. > :05:32.disturb the head. Close. Great strike. Brilliant

:05:33. > :05:36.strike. That's a hard shot, really hard

:05:37. > :05:39.shot. I'm not sure if the crowd realise how difficult that was.

:05:40. > :05:43.There wasn't much applause. It was a brilliant bowl.

:05:44. > :05:48.On the respot, Paul has covered it but there is a space. He'll try and

:05:49. > :05:52.get a lot closer with this one. Paul's bowl, looking at this, about

:05:53. > :05:56.18 or 19 inches short. Nicky's given himself a chance here.

:05:57. > :06:02.He has. It all depends on how close Paul can

:06:03. > :06:09.get. He's already played one bowl there so he knows exactly what to

:06:10. > :06:17.do. The problem for Nicky is that he has

:06:18. > :06:21.to have - he has to have room to get to it.

:06:22. > :06:27.How close is this one going to get? He's closer. Let's put it that way.

:06:28. > :06:33.He's definitely closer. Well, I think there's a draw for

:06:34. > :06:38.Nicky now. Not easy. Game against you. Game against.

:06:39. > :06:43.Four inches would draw it. It could drive two bowls but there's too much

:06:44. > :06:47.of a gap between them. It's just not worth it. After a running bowl,

:06:48. > :06:57.Andy, it's going to be hard to get back, two running bowls.

:06:58. > :07:03.Yeah. Backhand draw. One hand on the trophy and the other hand ready to

:07:04. > :07:07.grab it. You know what? He's very close here.

:07:08. > :07:13.Yeah, he's very close. Has he got enough? Oh, he has! What

:07:14. > :07:18.a bowl! Oh, Nicky! What a shot from Nick Brett to save the match. What a

:07:19. > :07:26.shot! Yes, well done Paul Foster. Paul said that bowl was halfway up -

:07:27. > :07:34.I heard him say to, "Be -- say to Becs, I don't like it. That's what

:07:35. > :07:37.we like to see. Sporting from Paul Foster there,

:07:38. > :07:40.congratulating him. Well played. Yes. Absolutely. Absolutely. Both

:07:41. > :07:51.players have been here before. They know what it's like.

:07:52. > :07:56.The Opposition plays a bomb on it. What a beautiful bowl that was.

:07:57. > :08:24.Four inches, David - wow. That's tight, Claire. Push it out.

:08:25. > :08:28.That's one thing you cannot afford to do. It's like the first-end half

:08:29. > :08:31.in this direction the last time. Just calm yourself down a bit,

:08:32. > :08:51.Claire. That's T it's hard. I know it is. It's difficult. But...

:08:52. > :08:58.That was brilliant from Nick Brett to hit that and then draw within

:08:59. > :09:01.four inches. Yes! Oh! To get out of that was fantastic, you know? World

:09:02. > :09:10.class, absolutely world class. Now, Claire, angle your body a

:09:11. > :09:15.little bit and just let this bowl flow out onto the line.

:09:16. > :09:32.It looks high. It looks heavy too. Yeah, that's... Nicky says, "One in

:09:33. > :09:36.the middle the next time." Yeah! The line was pretty good. I think that

:09:37. > :09:40.reaction says there's something not right about this. She said, "Oh,

:09:41. > :09:45.dear." I think one of the ends as well - none of these bowls at the

:09:46. > :09:47.moment are going to count. But I think both the chaps would just mind

:09:48. > :10:05.something within six inches. Be the right weight now. Be the

:10:06. > :10:09.right weight, Claire! I bet he's hoping it is. I bet he's hoping it

:10:10. > :10:15.is. It's not bad. Well played, Claire. Well played.

:10:16. > :10:18.There'll be a big smile on Claire Johnston's face at some stage if

:10:19. > :10:22.that stays there. Look at that. "What was I doing with the first

:10:23. > :10:26.two?" I'm not sure if she's enjoying this or not, David.

:10:27. > :10:28.It is testing, there's no doubt. I know that we are. Oh, it's great!

:10:29. > :10:49.Great. Well, Rebecca drop shot, possibly

:10:50. > :10:51.blocked Paul foster's favoured hand, the backhand, so Paul will have to

:10:52. > :11:21.draw it on the fore. Big shoulders. Yeah, that's given

:11:22. > :11:24.Paul room now. "Big shoulder" he said, which meant it would be

:11:25. > :11:31.running through. He needs another one in, Paul Foster is sticking to

:11:32. > :11:36.the backhand. It's his favourite side. It is. He prefers the

:11:37. > :11:40.backhand. He has so much confidence in his only ability to come around

:11:41. > :11:45.things. He's very close. Passes the short one. Oh... Well, probably

:11:46. > :11:50.needed another foot or so, Andy. Well, he's blocked out now. He

:11:51. > :11:54.cannot play the backhand now. Well, again, you almost feel as

:11:55. > :12:02.though the shot is not yet on the green.

:12:03. > :12:07.Oh! Let it go again. Tension from the boys here really. Well, he knew

:12:08. > :12:11.that was out of the hand and he's absolutely right. He's let it go

:12:12. > :12:33.again. Goodness me. Chance after chance here. It's got to be forehand

:12:34. > :12:36.draw for Paul. Rebecca's looking at this. Will it

:12:37. > :12:38.bend? He's got a big pull on the ball but it's not going to make it.

:12:39. > :12:43.LAUGHTER This is going to go down to the last

:12:44. > :12:49.bowl on the land end of a World Mixed Pairs Final. I'm glad they're

:12:50. > :12:52.on the green and not me. Ha! You love it! Sure, there's nothing

:12:53. > :12:56.better than getting the pressure of the last bowl.

:12:57. > :13:00.No change in the shot, Nicky. Still trying to draw the closest bowl.

:13:01. > :13:04.I tell you what, Andy, there's three or four players in the world that

:13:05. > :13:09.you'd like to be out there with the last bowl and two of them are on the

:13:10. > :13:17.green. Correct. Paul and Nicky had a great... Have you corrected, Nicky?

:13:18. > :13:22.Come on, Nick. Still looks high. Yeah, he's going to frame it.

:13:23. > :13:26.Get in! Get in! Yeah, he's going to frame it. It's two shots but he's

:13:27. > :13:32.framed it. The back position favours the green.

:13:33. > :13:36.I think Paul might nominate to destroy this end. This is the only

:13:37. > :13:40.time in the match when you can actually destroy it and have it

:13:41. > :13:43.replayed. He has to nominate it, but there's a chance even for the two

:13:44. > :13:45.bowls at that angle. I'd agree, David. This is awkward. There's not

:13:46. > :13:50.a perfect draw. The other option is just to play a

:13:51. > :13:55.heavy shot and hope that he kicks up the jack and attaches itself to one

:13:56. > :14:02.of the red ones. Yeah, he's nominated to kill. Yeah, I think I'd

:14:03. > :14:06.agree. Nicky has to play it. Yeah, there's all sorts of chances

:14:07. > :14:10.there. All sorts of chances. He has to be really from the outside green

:14:11. > :14:14.one - that's the absolute limit he can go wide.

:14:15. > :14:21.He's going for the jack here, trying to put the jack out of the rank.

:14:22. > :14:26.The reason being he's two shots down. We could go through this all

:14:27. > :14:29.again. I think Nick's bowl unfortunately framing it has decided

:14:30. > :14:31.what Paul would play. He probably would have tried to draw it. This

:14:32. > :14:37.one will come down fast. Settling himself down. The

:14:38. > :14:51.concentration of Paul Foster. Oh, brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

:14:52. > :14:55.What a strike! Oh, great! We're going to have to play this again!

:14:56. > :14:59.That's about as heavy as it gets when it comes to Paul Foster. You

:15:00. > :15:03.have to take the bowls back. That's the ruling that you take the bowls

:15:04. > :15:12.back. Brilliant strike. Absolutely fantastic strike. No messing about.

:15:13. > :15:16.Full concentration just got the half edge on the inside. Didn't really

:15:17. > :15:19.want it full to be fair, Andy, because full would have been in the

:15:20. > :15:24.ditch and that would have been against him. Yes, absolutely plum.

:15:25. > :15:28.Could not have played that any -- plumb. Could not have played that

:15:29. > :15:35.any better. No. On the first replay end of the third end in the

:15:36. > :15:38.tie-break, now that's all they're allowed to do. They're only allowed

:15:39. > :15:48.to kill it once as a team. I think both Claire and Rebecca will

:15:49. > :15:54.be saying, "Oh! We've got to go through this again!" Absolutely.

:15:55. > :15:58.Nick Brett of course can nominate to destroy the end so we could actually

:15:59. > :16:05.end up playing it another time. Yes, we could.

:16:06. > :16:09.I believe one of the rules we just heard the other day is the leads

:16:10. > :16:14.cannot kill the end. I really can't understand that to be truthful. But

:16:15. > :16:18.I did have a look at it. Is it true? It is. Absolutely, yes. Right. So

:16:19. > :16:27.it's in the rules. I did read it. That was a new one to everyone, I

:16:28. > :16:33.think. Mm-hm. It says clearly in the third end of

:16:34. > :16:37.a match tie-breaker only each skip will be entitled to burn the end

:16:38. > :16:42.once and they must clearly declare the nomination.

:16:43. > :16:45.I think that's a new one on all the players, that. Claire, that's not

:16:46. > :16:50.where you wanted to be, in front. You wanted to give Nicky the option

:16:51. > :17:02.to drive at it. Need to be in with the next one.

:17:03. > :17:10.Claire and Nicky had one hand on the trophy in the last end. Indeed they

:17:11. > :17:15.did. We don't see Paul going that weight too often. When he strikes

:17:16. > :17:25.the forehand, he goes fast. Run! Run, run! Run harder!

:17:26. > :17:50.APPLAUSE There's only one bowl to go, Claire.

:17:51. > :17:53.Don't worry! If anybody thinks bowls is boring,

:17:54. > :17:58.they should look at this. Team games have been good this year, really.

:17:59. > :18:00.They've been superb. Great singles games, great team games. Now, this

:18:01. > :18:09.is slightly different. Not hearing much from Nick. Well,

:18:10. > :18:14.Paul Foster has already applauded the ball. Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Well,

:18:15. > :18:17.played! It looked slightly different on the

:18:18. > :18:22.way down. Still open on the backhand.

:18:23. > :18:28.But that's a very good bowl. Well, Paul said you could still draw

:18:29. > :18:31.it. Grease a gap between the bowl and the jack, probably three or four

:18:32. > :18:47.inches. It's very much there.

:18:48. > :18:52.It depends on the weight she's playing here. I don't think she's

:18:53. > :18:57.that far away. Holding out slightly. Or will she run? I didn't think she

:18:58. > :18:59.was that far away. That's blocked a path for the draw. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

:19:00. > :19:15.He knows that. You can almost tell Rebecca's heart

:19:16. > :19:17.is going mad there. You're looking at her and thinking, "Oh, please be

:19:18. > :19:44.over." Let's see if Paul Foster tries to

:19:45. > :19:50.promote the red one or push the green out. Yeah. Difficult shot. It

:19:51. > :19:53.is a hard shot. You have to hit it absolutely perfect. He's got a

:19:54. > :19:57.difficult backhand shot, David, hasn't he? Trying to promote the red

:19:58. > :20:02.is difficult. And it's a half bowl he's looking for. It's a half bowl

:20:03. > :20:07.on the wide side to push it in at the angle, um, the forehand - it's

:20:08. > :20:13.bowl on the jack and open it up. Possibly bowl out clean if he gets

:20:14. > :20:16.it on the timer. Well, he's been playing his runners under. He's

:20:17. > :20:22.going to disturb the head. Certainly is.

:20:23. > :20:30.Actually that is a lot better for Paul Foster. Yes, he'll be happy.

:20:31. > :20:39.That's a good result, actually. Two bowls could go, the jack could go.

:20:40. > :20:50.That's - Paul will not be disappointed in any way with that.

:20:51. > :20:52.Needs to come back in. Claire's calling it.

:20:53. > :20:59.Good bowl. Great bowl.

:21:00. > :21:13.Well, he does not have the option to kill it.

:21:14. > :21:21.Very close. Oh! What a result! Oh, that is a fantastic result! Oh,

:21:22. > :21:27.dear, and the bowl stayed on. I thought the bowl had to go with

:21:28. > :21:36.it. That is an amazing result.

:21:37. > :21:44.Look at that now. Just the angle, yeah. That's it.

:21:45. > :21:48.He hit it on the high side, jack went back and the green bowl went to

:21:49. > :21:52.the side. That is not easy to hit. He's got three or four feet. He's

:21:53. > :21:57.taking his time here and quite right, Nicky. Take your time.

:21:58. > :21:59.Get yourself composed. This is last bowl. Last bowl of the game for

:22:00. > :22:05.Nicky. I think this is very difficult.

:22:06. > :22:08.Well, he played a few big bowls like this against Alex Marshall in the

:22:09. > :22:16.semifinal. Can he play another big one? Is he up? He's definitely up.

:22:17. > :22:21.How close to the ditch? That's brilliant. Oh, that's brilliant.

:22:22. > :22:25.Well, to be fair, Paul Foster tapped his leg with that when it was only

:22:26. > :22:30.halfway up. Fantastic, Nicky Brett. He's down at the business end. He

:22:31. > :22:35.could tell, but there's no doubt about it, this has been glad

:22:36. > :22:39.tourial, I think. Oh -- gladiatorial, I think. The two leads

:22:40. > :22:42.have had a great game but the two skips have been knocking nine bells

:22:43. > :22:46.out of each other. Sensational. Well, this is difficulty - the red

:22:47. > :22:54.bowl that they could see nearest the green is blocking the path. It is.

:22:55. > :22:59.I think he can time it around because it's close to the ditch. If

:23:00. > :23:03.he tries to draw it on the backhand he has to get within a foot. That's

:23:04. > :23:07.what we live for. Wow. I've enjoyed this, to be fair.

:23:08. > :23:11.I think it's fair to say, Nick, that the three-bowl mixed pairs - or

:23:12. > :23:14.should I say the three-bowl mixed pairs is it. It looks like it's here

:23:15. > :23:20.to stay. That's what you're saying? Yes, yes.

:23:21. > :23:25.What do you do, Paul? This is... Oh, this is fantastic stuff. It really

:23:26. > :23:29.is. What can Paul do here? Do you think he'll draw? I think he'll try

:23:30. > :23:33.to push the bowl out on the forehand. Yeah, the timing shot is

:23:34. > :23:38.available. Now, he's going to the back... If he

:23:39. > :23:43.draws this, this will be shot of the week. Oh, he's trying to draw. He's

:23:44. > :23:47.trying to draw. What a bowl this would be. Paul Foster. He's one of

:23:48. > :23:53.the few players in the world that would even attempt to play. This The

:23:54. > :23:59.line is good. Paul, don't tell me you've drawn this. Has he? Has he?

:24:00. > :24:03.Oh! What an effort! Well, he was right to try and draw it because he

:24:04. > :24:08.had so much confidence in his own ability but it just dropped in with

:24:09. > :24:12.six inches of weight and I have to say that's one of the best pairs

:24:13. > :24:17.games I've ever seen. Unbelievable. Fantastic. All four players - full

:24:18. > :24:21.credit. Wonderful game. Anyone could have won it but well done to Claire

:24:22. > :24:25.and Nicky. Congratulations to Rebecca Field and Paul Foster. They

:24:26. > :24:29.contributed to one of the best games here at Potters Leisure Resort that

:24:30. > :24:32.we've ever enjoyed but it's Claire Johnston from Scotland and Nick

:24:33. > :24:36.Brett, the world number one, who take the mixed pairs world indoor.

:24:37. > :24:38.One of the most amazing things was watching your facial expressions

:24:39. > :24:40.One of the most amazing things was watching your facial expressions all

:24:41. > :24:44.the way, Claire. There were moments of exasperation and moments of

:24:45. > :24:48.relief. Give us an idea of what emotions you went through? I think I

:24:49. > :24:53.went through every emotion. My heart was in my mouth half the time. I

:24:54. > :24:57.just had to try and dig deep. I'm not used to playing in the portable

:24:58. > :25:00.rink at this level and these guys are. I just had to try and hold

:25:01. > :25:04.myself together and give Nick something, but it's just been an

:25:05. > :25:07.honour for me to come here this week and play with Nick. It's been an

:25:08. > :25:15.absolute joy and I'll treasure the moment.

:25:16. > :25:23.Quite simply that was one offer the best finals we have ever seen at pet

:25:24. > :25:25.pet. We're switching our attention now to the singles competition, this

:25:26. > :25:27.is how the draw now to the singles competition, this

:25:28. > :25:33.is how the draw looked at the start of Tuesday. Nick Brett is through to

:25:34. > :25:37.play Charles Bence. He's on the course to defend his title. Stewart

:25:38. > :25:40.Anderson against Graham McKee. David Gourlay against Neil Furman. Jamie

:25:41. > :25:45.Rippey versus Greg Harlow. Robert Paxton against Jamie Chestney.

:25:46. > :25:51.Debbie Wilford against the four-time champion Paul Foster. Darren Burnett

:25:52. > :25:54.versus Mervyn King and Les Gillett against the six-time winner Alex

:25:55. > :25:58.Marshall. The first match that we're going to show you is between the

:25:59. > :26:01.2010 champion Greg Harlow and Jamie Rippey on his second Potters'

:26:02. > :26:08.appearance and it was Harlow who easily took the first set 9-3 and is

:26:09. > :26:11.in control of the second set as we join the action once again with Andy

:26:12. > :26:30.and David. Very deliberate from Greg. Just

:26:31. > :26:39.means if he's in trouble, he can play a short jack and head his way

:26:40. > :26:44.out of it. He can also ditch the jack. Greg will try to close this

:26:45. > :26:47.end out. He'll be happy to just drop a one.

:26:48. > :26:56.APPLAUSE Goods start from James. When you

:26:57. > :27:01.think about it, it's first set, Greg has had a lot of big last balls.

:27:02. > :27:08.This set, he's picked up two fours. It's hard to beat someone when they

:27:09. > :27:15.pick two fours up. Yes, I think I'm sure both players will reflect on

:27:16. > :27:19.quite a lot actually after this game - where the best position is. If

:27:20. > :27:23.Greg is to be successful, he'll be thinking quite hard and probably

:27:24. > :27:27.having a look at this game again and thinking where does he want to go

:27:28. > :27:30.for the next one. I think it's fair to say a lot of players will be

:27:31. > :27:34.watching this game as well and thinking, "The jack is awkward here

:27:35. > :27:42.or the jack is better here." I think there's a lot of thinking to be done

:27:43. > :27:47.still. That was a chance for James to get a bit of pressure on. Wanted

:27:48. > :27:49.that one to count. He missed a number of second balls, just to

:27:50. > :28:17.consolidate the position. APPLAUSE

:28:18. > :28:21.Ball held up. Yes, indeed. Needs to fall away give Jame as shot. Alex

:28:22. > :28:23.sitting there thinking, "Daddy is coming home." There you go. Come on

:28:24. > :28:31.dad! (LAUGHTER)

:28:32. > :28:39."I'm trying son, I'm trying. I'm doing my best"! I'm trying for you,

:28:40. > :28:44.I'm trying! He's close with this one. Seeing his son has inspired him

:28:45. > :28:49.to play this ball. He's got it out, has he? Oh, it's dropped back but I

:28:50. > :28:58.think it might have given him the shot. There you go! Well done,

:28:59. > :29:02.daddy! Not quite sure actually who's line is here? Very close. It's one

:29:03. > :29:06.red, closer to the second, makes a difference. Yes, it does. Good solid

:29:07. > :29:13.connection but the ball just dropped back.

:29:14. > :29:52.Greg is using another time-out. I think it will be the backhand draw.

:29:53. > :30:08.Will he bend in time? Looks close, this looks perfect. Absolutely

:30:09. > :30:12.perfect. Ball first drop-in. He's really keeping his concentration,

:30:13. > :30:19.isn't he, Greg. Yes, that was a perfect ball. Well, quite simply

:30:20. > :30:22.James has got to have more inspiration from his son here. But

:30:23. > :30:27.he's probably has to put the ball on to the jack. There's the trophy

:30:28. > :30:38.they're all playing for. The ranking points and of course a rather large

:30:39. > :30:43.cheque. Well, ball on to jack here. Has to play it. Hasn't been

:30:44. > :30:51.desperately successful with the running balls, so this is a tough

:30:52. > :30:58.one. He's playing a controlled one. Looks under to me. Might get a

:30:59. > :31:03.result here. Oh! Yes! I think he has. He might have got a fortunate

:31:04. > :31:09.result and he did. That was the ball he was trying to promote, but not in

:31:10. > :31:18.that way, but he's got the one. He was tight, moves the red ball out,

:31:19. > :31:23.takes the one. Still in the game. He did acknowledge it to Greg when he

:31:24. > :31:28.arrived up at the head. The fortunate result, Greg just put his

:31:29. > :31:34.finger up, one shot, move on. Yes. Didn't dwell on the fact he was

:31:35. > :31:38.lying the match. Greg is still in a very strong position. James need to

:31:39. > :31:50.score three here to force it into the tie-break.

:31:51. > :31:57.Once again, it's 28.5m and he's on the forehand. Hasn't put a really

:31:58. > :32:02.good ball down on this forehand. For quite a while. For a long time. Yes.

:32:03. > :32:09.One good last end. This looks better. I think Alex has spurred him

:32:10. > :32:14.on. Yes, I think he has. You can take the credit, Alex. Yep! Come on

:32:15. > :32:18.daddy, you can play better than that. He did!

:32:19. > :32:24.LAUGHS I think he said, "Why haven't I be

:32:25. > :32:33.doing this for the last two or three ends." Absolutely. Good reply. Yes,

:32:34. > :32:42.Greg won't be allowing this. Good reply. Perfectly. It indicates a

:32:43. > :33:00.toucher. Got another good one. Just needs to

:33:01. > :33:02.rest the green. It's good, very good.

:33:03. > :33:05.APPLAUSE It's definitely the best first two

:33:06. > :33:17.balls he's played for a while. Greg turning the jack around the

:33:18. > :33:25.corner - that's what he's thinking about.

:33:26. > :33:35.Is this running? Well, James, this is a difficult one to be fair. He

:33:36. > :33:39.has to get three. I think he just got to play the same ball, David,

:33:40. > :33:43.and then try to do something with your final delivery. I wouldn't go

:33:44. > :33:50.chasing it just yet. Try to draw another shot. That, or rest out the

:33:51. > :33:58.green one. The backhands are a hard shot to play. He's playing it early.

:33:59. > :34:04.He might be thinking, Andy, I need two goes at this. Possibly.

:34:05. > :34:09.Trying to call it. Needs to hurry to get it absolutely solid!

:34:10. > :34:13.APPLAUSE It's a good try. Well he might have

:34:14. > :34:19.made a double. He's definitely given himself a chance. That was very

:34:20. > :34:21.close to getting it absolutely rock-solid. He's got two. So he's

:34:22. > :34:38.given himself a chance. Greg looking to close this end down.

:34:39. > :34:48.One good ball makes it difficult for James. He's struggling for weight.

:34:49. > :34:53.Well, it's a good an opportunity as you're going to get. Quite simply,

:34:54. > :34:56.yes. Draw another shot, as simple as that. Glad you said it was simple!

:34:57. > :35:02.(LAUGHTER) It's a simple shot... No, it's...

:35:03. > :35:12.Yep. Nothing difficult, it's just a draw. And the pressures are there.

:35:13. > :35:16.There you go! Daddy is having a real go here, and James can play a good

:35:17. > :35:26.draw shot. He's putting Greg under pressure.

:35:27. > :35:34.I think his line is good. He's trying to encourage it. It's nod

:35:35. > :35:38.bad. It's not bad! APPLAUSE

:35:39. > :35:43.He really needs it. Yep, that's - oh, wow! He hasn't turned it too

:35:44. > :35:48.far. I don't think he has. He's definitely got three. Maybe four.

:35:49. > :35:53.He's been a little bit unlucky in that he's brought the jack out into

:35:54. > :36:01.the open and that favours the running ball for Greg. Greg's under

:36:02. > :36:09.pressure. He didn't want to play this final delivery. You never do.

:36:10. > :36:12.He looks under but he's in the area. Oh my goodness me! Has that made a

:36:13. > :36:19.difference? No. He's got three. That's three shots. Wow!

:36:20. > :36:25.APPLAUSE That's a bit of inspiration there.

:36:26. > :36:29.So a great fightback from Jamie Rippey and into the tie-break, the

:36:30. > :36:32.first two ends of which were shared. We rejoin the action at the start of

:36:33. > :36:43.the decider. Well, this is what it's all about.

:36:44. > :36:48.This is the bit where the players play balls for. The nitty-gritty at

:36:49. > :36:56.the end. Yes, I mean, it's fantastic. Always good when it goes

:36:57. > :37:01.to tie-breaks. Because everybody is aware that this - the players go out

:37:02. > :37:08.of their way. It's a good opener for James. Something tells me had to get

:37:09. > :37:13.it at the last end. Possibly. Greg's actually - he's got the last ball,

:37:14. > :37:26.that might just count for the lot here. But I think we'll see

:37:27. > :37:30.aggression from either player here. There's a case now for James to run

:37:31. > :37:35.at it. It's not his game. That's what I would have thought he drawn

:37:36. > :37:40.in the last ball in the previous end because he hasn't hit very well.

:37:41. > :37:47.More confident on the draw shots, especially on his backhand. This one

:37:48. > :37:49.needs to run. Not there. And that's a front ball which is in the good

:37:50. > :38:02.either. Yeah, he knows it. It puts a lot of pressure on the

:38:03. > :38:07.third delivery. The previous ball from James might be an awkward ball

:38:08. > :38:14.for both players, whoever get it is shot.

:38:15. > :38:22.It's another one in. Yep. Still a draw available. Still the backhand

:38:23. > :38:32.draw available. And James put one ball on the top of the jack here,

:38:33. > :38:38.and it's advantage Rippey. Don't overcorrect, that's really the

:38:39. > :38:43.message going through. 2ft short. I think's picked a line with both of

:38:44. > :38:49.these deliveries, just to add 2ft of weight. Have to say the line is

:38:50. > :38:52.good. Not sure about the weight on this one. The weight, it's perfect.

:38:53. > :38:57.APPLAUSE He's played it and played it well.

:38:58. > :39:06.He didn't overcorrect and family Rippey are getting excited. Great

:39:07. > :39:13.ball. That delivery from Jamie Rippey move it is jack, lies 2, lies

:39:14. > :39:17.game. And it's a toucher. Yeah, enjoyed that one. Did he ever!

:39:18. > :39:23.Played well. Now, Greg has got the runner on the forehand if he wants

:39:24. > :39:27.it. He's nominated to try and kill the end and that's the only time

:39:28. > :39:31.you're allowed to do it - is on the third end of a tie-break when you

:39:32. > :39:35.can nominate as often as you wish. I don't think it will kill. The way

:39:36. > :39:39.the head is sitting, the danger for Greg here is the green ball on to

:39:40. > :39:44.the red might put the jack in the ditch. It's just anth at an angle,

:39:45. > :39:49.and he might be able to get both. But it's on his favoured forehand

:39:50. > :39:54.runner, and the Scottish Masters he played a lot of big balls on his

:39:55. > :39:58.forehand. Close. As expected. Oh, just got the short one. Actually,

:39:59. > :40:03.the jack was off-centre. That actually sort of made it a little

:40:04. > :40:08.bit different. Yes, probably that. So what does he do, Jamie Rippey?

:40:09. > :40:13.Does he go for the absolute perfect ball or does he just leave it? I

:40:14. > :40:17.don't think I'd be going near this. No, I don't think so. If Greg draws

:40:18. > :40:21.a shot, well he draws the shot. I think he will draw with this one. I

:40:22. > :40:28.think he has to. Yeah, can't see Greg getting a good result with the

:40:29. > :40:33.runner. No, he has to draw the shot. He's really no runner on, he had to

:40:34. > :40:36.open it up with the third ball but let's see what James is doing with

:40:37. > :40:42.this one. He's going deep, rightly so. Staying away. Yep, not too much,

:40:43. > :40:46.but again the blocker was available to stop Greg playing the draw and

:40:47. > :40:51.force him into the runner, but the two reds could have disappeared and

:40:52. > :40:57.that would have been just awful. So, yep, the nomation again. Well,

:40:58. > :41:01.always plan forward. So he must be playing the runner, no guarantees is

:41:02. > :41:08.going to get the shot here but hitting the head. But he's game

:41:09. > :41:12.down. Has he corrected? I think it's too high, I think. Oh, he's got it!

:41:13. > :41:19.I don't believe it! APPLAUSE

:41:20. > :41:32.What a result! Oh! What a result out of that. A great ball. What a

:41:33. > :41:36.result! Greg Harlow is the first man through

:41:37. > :41:42.to the quarterfinals. Next up, though, is the match between last

:41:43. > :41:47.year's runner-up, Robert Paxton and the 14 seed Jamie Chestney. And it

:41:48. > :41:54.was Chestney who struck first. Things are closer at 4-4 when we

:41:55. > :41:59.join the action at the eightth end in the second. Lots of things going

:42:00. > :42:09.through the players' minds at these times. Probably easier for Rob, he

:42:10. > :42:11.needs to score. Yes, and probably be thinking to himself, "I have to

:42:12. > :42:23.score double." APPLAUSE

:42:24. > :42:28.Can't really tell much from Jamie's reaction whether he likes it. He's

:42:29. > :42:52.kicking the turf a bit. This is one of these tough matches

:42:53. > :42:58.that you just have to dig and dig and dig, scratch out a win. This

:42:59. > :43:08.looks better. Not anything pretty about it. Had some really good ends

:43:09. > :43:16.and some that have been a bit on the scrappy side. He's certainly wider

:43:17. > :43:17.with this one. Coming back strong now. Close.

:43:18. > :43:22.APPLAUSE He looked happier with the line on

:43:23. > :43:50.that one. Urging this forward! He's not bad

:43:51. > :43:51.with it but needs another foot or so to be absolutely perfect. Just

:43:52. > :44:10.dropped away. But is it enough? See if Jamie repeats his second

:44:11. > :44:14.bowl, he'll only score the one. Not getting too excited about it but

:44:15. > :44:19.he's getting ever closer. He's definitely in but it's just where

:44:20. > :44:26.he's going to move the jack to. Perfect bowl. Absolutely perfect.

:44:27. > :44:32.One of his time-outs here, I would imagine, having a look at all the

:44:33. > :44:38.angles. Does that plant green on to red, take it on to the shot? I think

:44:39. > :44:42.it takes it under the shot. But then what happens, yep? That's where the

:44:43. > :44:46.problem lies. If it's one, he's still in with a shot with the last

:44:47. > :44:51.end but if he has something go wrong, he could be go down. Perhaps

:44:52. > :44:58.just the play the crunching draw. Yep. Just squeeze it over to his own

:44:59. > :45:04.red ball. It's difficult, literally a foot of running. Didn't feel right

:45:05. > :45:22.in the hand, so he's wiping his fingers again.

:45:23. > :45:30.Tell you what - he's given it a shot, hasn't he? He certainly has. I

:45:31. > :45:34.thought he had more width with that to be truthful with you. If Jimmy

:45:35. > :45:38.scores two here, I think Robert Paxton is going to be in a heap of

:45:39. > :45:42.trouble the next end. He needs to score three. A very difficult

:45:43. > :45:46.opportunity, though. Looks to be a reasonable amount of room on the

:45:47. > :45:50.screen, but I can tell you down here on the rink, it's not too many

:45:51. > :45:54.inches to squeeze another one in. In fact, Jamie is playing it safe. He's

:45:55. > :45:58.playing it off the backhand side. He didn't want to crunch the jack

:45:59. > :46:03.himself. Just looking to float round the front red to score another. Just

:46:04. > :46:10.the one by the looks of it. He said it was close with regards to the

:46:11. > :46:15.other one earlier in the end. Wow! Francis Fletcher said he favoured

:46:16. > :46:19.the red but very slightly. But no guarantees. That's only an opinion

:46:20. > :46:23.of course. There's chalk on Jamie's bowls so he touched the jack,

:46:24. > :46:28.whether he moved it nearer the red or nearer the green, not really

:46:29. > :46:32.sure. It didn't look like it barely touched it, did it? This is very

:46:33. > :46:37.important. Yes, I was going to say threes are difficult, but I managed

:46:38. > :46:42.to drop a three in my last end, my match earlier to take it to the

:46:43. > :46:46.tie-break. Best keep quiet, I think. I think it's when you going on the

:46:47. > :46:52.last end, you're thinking two shots, it's possible. Especially when you

:46:53. > :47:05.got last ball. Close. It is very close. Very close!

:47:06. > :47:12.Almost equal distance. Two shots Jamie Chestney. That makes a

:47:13. > :47:16.difference, that's massive. That's probably another reason why he

:47:17. > :47:22.played the backhand, a safer hand. Didn't want to topple the jack over.

:47:23. > :47:30.Yeah, all to do for Robert Paxton. World No. 3 is in so much trouble

:47:31. > :47:39.here. He really is. Three shots - wow! That's - he's gone to the 25.5m

:47:40. > :47:43.and Jimmy is a good striker as well. So he's sensible. What team does he

:47:44. > :47:48.play for? LAUGHS

:47:49. > :47:52.Boom, boom. He doesn't need the strike, you lot are all kitted for.

:47:53. > :48:23.Good opening bowl. Good reply. Needs to pick it up.

:48:24. > :48:27.Yep, very good. Jimmy just looking to get something close again, trying

:48:28. > :48:34.to crowd the head with three balls, if heck. A bit surprised he's still

:48:35. > :48:39.playing the forehand, I thought he might have changed the back. Well,

:48:40. > :48:45.now, this is interesting. Opportunity is here definitely. I

:48:46. > :48:50.don't think Rob - he's going to stick to the forehand. From our

:48:51. > :48:54.commentary position here, it looks like a backhand draw, but obviously

:48:55. > :48:58.just played a really good forehand, looking to do the same. Maybe just

:48:59. > :49:03.touch his own red down. He's on the right side but he can afford to come

:49:04. > :49:05.around it. Yeah, that's just a very - that's a very useful ball.

:49:06. > :49:28.APPLAUSE Sticking with it. Definitely a more

:49:29. > :49:36.positive draw this time. Can he get to his own? That helps. Oh, well,

:49:37. > :49:41.another turn would have been probably match over, but still got a

:49:42. > :49:50.chance. Not to promote his own ball under the jack. Take the green one

:49:51. > :49:54.out clean. One or the other. As you say, one more roll on the green, one

:49:55. > :50:03.would have been behind the jack and game over. An opportunity here.

:50:04. > :50:11.Is he going to draw the jack round or is he going to play the takeout.

:50:12. > :50:13.He's on a narrow line, so he's gone for the takeout. He's very

:50:14. > :50:21.interested in it. Pushing it forward! He's got something. It's a

:50:22. > :50:29.good bowl. Green ball just dropped back, though. So it's one, a very

:50:30. > :50:33.close look for the second. Whether it's one or two, he's actually set

:50:34. > :50:41.himself ahead to score the three. Yep. That's the important bill.

:50:42. > :50:45.Jimmy might be tempted here just to come into this, not convinced it's

:50:46. > :50:50.the right shot to play because touch a ball in with a jack probably still

:50:51. > :50:54.put him two down and give Robert a lot more room. I think backhand draw

:50:55. > :50:58.is the call. Yeah. Draw is a good one, it's game over. If he doesn't,

:50:59. > :51:02.Robert has still got to play a great bowl to remove the green to score

:51:03. > :51:06.the three. Jamie doesn't want to run at this and he could get a back

:51:07. > :51:17.connection and almost gift Robert the three he needs. Yep. In the

:51:18. > :51:22.backhand on the draw. Big back swing, Jamie Chestney. Good line. Is

:51:23. > :51:28.he over the weight? Yep, just over the weight. It's where the problem

:51:29. > :51:33.was. Now, Robert... This is not easy, but... He's got two choices

:51:34. > :51:37.here - can either play red on to green, or looks like a good angle to

:51:38. > :51:41.take the two green bowls out with a drive and leave the three.

:51:42. > :51:47.Either/or. Tran Trans Tough one. World No. 3 in a heap of trouble.

:51:48. > :51:53.One ball to snai the world professional singles. It's an early

:51:54. > :51:58.exit for Paxton if he doesn't get this. Going for the two balls. He

:51:59. > :52:01.like it is it. He likes it! Oh... He's been unlucky. Very unlucky.

:52:02. > :52:08.Very unlucky! One shot. APPLAUSE

:52:09. > :52:13.That's not enough. World No. 3 bite it is dust and the world No. 14

:52:14. > :52:16.makes his way through to the quarterfinals.

:52:17. > :52:22.Well done to Jamie Chestney and he will play the winner in tonight's

:52:23. > :52:25.final show. That was between Debbie Wilford of New Zealand and Paul

:52:26. > :52:46.Foster. Robert Paxton is now in the commentary box alongside Corky.

:52:47. > :53:02.He'd be quite happy to try to put this game to bed in the sand. He

:53:03. > :53:06.turns back on this one but it doesn't look too far away for me.

:53:07. > :53:23.He'll settle for that. He's just come away with a Scottish

:53:24. > :53:31.Indoor Sinles title a couple of weeks ago.

:53:32. > :54:20.We got a good first bowl. Trying to follow that up, drop inside it.

:54:21. > :54:49.Good effort. That sets up a decent chance.

:54:50. > :54:56.This bowl almost clears the end off this moment. Ball on to ball, take

:54:57. > :55:00.the two of them out, is really the only hope. She needs three shots, it

:55:01. > :55:02.has to be played. Nothing there in the forehand that's going to create

:55:03. > :55:17.a three. Have to be aggressive to it.

:55:18. > :55:28.Disturbance there, so they stopped the clock. 12 seconds.

:55:29. > :55:38.Certainly playing to it, just needs to get back down again. It's a

:55:39. > :55:42.decent effort I have to say. It's the hard weight, though. Yeah, I

:55:43. > :55:44.think she had to keep the bowl on just to give herself with a chance

:55:45. > :56:06.possibly. There's other options. Paul just going over to the respot

:56:07. > :56:13.position, deep and kiss the green ball and goes on to the jack. The

:56:14. > :56:20.thing has pretty well covered, has to play the backhand again. Ball on

:56:21. > :56:30.to ball and stay herself, give her three. So plenty of time. Take your

:56:31. > :56:39.time. Just get this absolutely right. You get three and if you dent

:56:40. > :56:45.get it right, but get the two balls, then there's a good chance that just

:56:46. > :56:50.looking to see down - it looks good. The way I'm sitting, that will take

:56:51. > :56:55.that, that ball is definitely going out, the other green one will

:56:56. > :57:00.disappear from here. She almost needs a front bowl solid, that's the

:57:01. > :57:15.only... Two shots brings her into the last end. So...

:57:16. > :57:25.Quicker. Definitely quicker. No doubt about that. Just under, I

:57:26. > :57:30.think. Just on the inside. Right through the gap too.

:57:31. > :57:35.APPLAUSE Paul Foster get as three and a two

:57:36. > :57:41.in the last two ends. Seven and eight ends, and eases his way into

:57:42. > :57:46.the quarterfinal. 11-3, 10-3. So Paul Foster seals his spot in the

:57:47. > :57:50.quarterfinals where he'll face Jamie Chestney. The only other player

:57:51. > :57:56.through to the last eight so far is Greg Harlow but lots of big names

:57:57. > :57:58.still lurking in the last 16, the likes of Nick Brett, Stewart

:57:59. > :58:03.Anderson and of course Alex Marshall. A reminder we are back on

:58:04. > :58:08.the red button from 10:00am for the next instalment of the singles as

:58:09. > :58:16.Stewart Anderson playing Graham McKee and back on BBC Two for action

:58:17. > :58:21.for both of the open singles and lady's singles. Nick Brett and

:58:22. > :58:23.Claire Johnston are the mixed pair champions. From all here at Potters,

:58:24. > :59:03.bye, bye. Should've seen Hillary's face.

:59:04. > :59:08.She was stood there with Bill. Because she's going to an

:59:09. > :59:14.event to celebrate
