:00:40. > :00:44.Hello, welcome to Potters for the World Indoor Bowls Championships. We
:00:45. > :00:47.are at the quarter finals stages, just eight players left, which means
:00:48. > :00:55.eight players with the opportunity of getting their hands on this, the
:00:56. > :01:00.most coveted trophy in the sport of indoor bowls. It is there to save
:01:01. > :01:08.the cream has risen to the top. -- it is fair to say. Quarterfinal day
:01:09. > :01:09.is the best day in every tournament. The best eight. There will be
:01:10. > :01:44.fireworks on quarterfinals day. There has already been a lot of
:01:45. > :01:49.drama in most matches that have been shown this week so I am expecting
:01:50. > :01:56.more close sets, tie-breaks, more of that. When you are in the
:01:57. > :01:59.quarterfinal, you know you are only two games away from potentially
:02:00. > :02:10.lifting the World Championship. All of the matches will be superb. This
:02:11. > :02:13.is the time to start producing. What a line-up we have got, six
:02:14. > :02:17.former champions making it through to the last eight in Mickey Brett,
:02:18. > :02:23.Stewart Anderson, David Gourlay, Greg Harlow and Darren Burnett,
:02:24. > :02:28.along with Jamie Chestney, up-and-coming star, and Les Gillett,
:02:29. > :02:29.who won a trophy in the pairs this week.
:02:30. > :02:34.The first of the quarterfinal matches took place earlier today, a
:02:35. > :02:39.clash of former champions, 1996 winner David Gourlay against the
:02:40. > :02:43.2010 winner Greg Harlow. Fifth seed corn they had beaten the
:02:44. > :02:48.USA's Neil Furman 24 hours earlier to book his place in the quarters
:02:49. > :02:54.while Harlow, the fourth seed, had to get through against James Rippey
:02:55. > :02:58.on Tuesday. It was fairly cagey stuff in the first five ends as they
:02:59. > :03:01.traded singles but in the six it was Gourlay who broke the pattern,
:03:02. > :03:08.picking up a double after this well judged draw. He extended his lead in
:03:09. > :03:16.the next end. The Englishman made a mistake with his third ball to open
:03:17. > :03:21.the door. And the Scot gratefully took the opportunity with his final
:03:22. > :03:25.effort to secure a triple and an 8-2 lead. Harlow could not make up the
:03:26. > :03:30.deficit in the final two ends, as the first set went to Gourlay. In a
:03:31. > :03:36.rare moment, the first end of the second set was tied when Gourlay's
:03:37. > :03:40.third left the jack touching red and green bowls meaning no scores were
:03:41. > :03:45.given to either player. Both players have raised their game in this set.
:03:46. > :03:49.In the fifth end, Harlow played this perfectly weighted bowl for a double
:03:50. > :03:54.as he started to build a healthy lead. But, not to be outdone,
:03:55. > :03:58.Scotland's high-performance coach Cornet got in on the act with a
:03:59. > :04:02.beautiful draw to save a single in the seventh. But it was not enough
:04:03. > :04:06.to stop Harlow taking the sector for the tie-break. The first two ends
:04:07. > :04:10.were shared to set up a final dramatic end. Gourlay produced
:04:11. > :04:15.brilliant pressure bowls to leave him in line for the match. Harlow
:04:16. > :04:24.drove in reply and when the bowls settled, it was he who had won it,
:04:25. > :04:30.with a shot he later described as a fluke. Final Score 2-1 and Greg
:04:31. > :04:33.Harlow through to the semis. Yes, Greg Harlow the first player
:04:34. > :04:36.through to the semis. Looking at how the draw has developed over the
:04:37. > :04:41.tournament, he will play the winner of the match between Nick Brett and
:04:42. > :04:46.Stewart Anderson. Down in the bottom of draw, Jamie Chestney faces Paul
:04:47. > :04:50.Foster live on BBC Two this afternoon and tonight it is Darren
:04:51. > :04:54.Burnett against Les Gillett, England B Scotland all the way in the
:04:55. > :04:59.quarterfinals. David Corkill is joining me.
:05:00. > :05:04.Reaction to the match we saw this morning, Greg Harlow the beneficiary
:05:05. > :05:08.of the better fortune? I think that is an understatement, to be honest!
:05:09. > :05:11.Greg was magnanimous today. When you are through like that on absolute
:05:12. > :05:15.blue, probably one of the worst I had seen at the time. You do get
:05:16. > :05:19.flukes, you don't mind it at the start of the set because you can
:05:20. > :05:27.recover but when it is for a match, my goodness, it hurts. I think David
:05:28. > :05:31.Gourlay is in his car at the moment. Probably feeling a bit upset but he
:05:32. > :05:35.will be OK because he has had his fair share of good fortune as well.
:05:36. > :05:38.There are quality matches all through the quarterfinals today.
:05:39. > :05:43.Let's talk about Paul Foster against Jamie Chestney, Paul Foster has won
:05:44. > :05:47.the title four times but Jamie Chestney is rising fast up the
:05:48. > :05:50.ranks. He has been for some time now, G's Bar and brilliant in terms
:05:51. > :05:53.of his style. You don't get much reaction out of him but he is a very
:05:54. > :06:08.good, natural player, nothing artificial about him, he plays as
:06:09. > :06:10.PCs. Tonight, a match between a former champion Darren Burnett and
:06:11. > :06:13.Les Gillett, who is bouncing after winning the pairs on Monday and
:06:14. > :06:16.defeating Alex Marshall yesterday in the last 16. That was a massive game
:06:17. > :06:18.because he gets more ranking points but also what it does to your
:06:19. > :06:21.confidence. I have noticed less have slowed his game down a bit more,
:06:22. > :06:26.more deliberate, and it is working for him. Let's focus on the first
:06:27. > :06:29.live match today, Mickey Brett up against Stewart Anderson. Nicky has
:06:30. > :06:33.been the best player in the world over the last couple of years but
:06:34. > :06:43.Stewart Anderson has been to the final a couple of times, winning in
:06:44. > :06:48.2013. You must be at the top of your game,
:06:49. > :06:51.it doesn't matter if you play number one or number 16, you must be at the
:06:52. > :06:56.top of your game in every match because these guys are all different
:06:57. > :07:05.class. Nicky will be a tough game but I am looking forward to it. I
:07:06. > :07:09.know I have come through, it looks like two comfortable wins, but it
:07:10. > :07:21.wasn't. The opponents have played really good.
:07:22. > :07:28.COMMENTATOR: I think you said to Nicky, you need glasses!
:07:29. > :07:33.It has been the much of the tournament so far from all different
:07:34. > :07:38.perspectives. Nobody knew it would go to the last bowl decider.
:07:39. > :07:44.Everybody loves Charlie and everybody wants Charlie to come back
:07:45. > :07:51.as well. I want him to come back, he is a clubmate, it has been great for
:07:52. > :07:55.him. It has been good to play him but we will see what happens on the
:07:56. > :08:00.day. I will need to produce the same bowls as I did in 2030 when I won
:08:01. > :08:10.it. Nicky has been on the top of his game this year, sensational. He is
:08:11. > :08:20.producing his best balls. For me it was an achievement, a few years down
:08:21. > :08:26.the line having a trophy in my hands. I love coming to this place,
:08:27. > :08:31.you see it on TV, jab at the crowd behind you, chatting to you after
:08:32. > :08:39.the game, before the game, of luck, everybody is so friendly. It is
:08:40. > :08:44.remarkable, bowls should be here all the time. I just think about Friday,
:08:45. > :08:51.if I do when I will think about Saturday when Saturday comes. I
:08:52. > :08:55.think that is all you can do. He is such a talented player,
:08:56. > :09:02.Stewart Anderson, but up against the number one ranked player and
:09:03. > :09:07.defending champion Nicky Brett. I'd like to be a little bit fresher,
:09:08. > :09:17.to be honest. I've been through the ringer in every game I've played.
:09:18. > :09:21.Ideally it would have been easier but I have proved that if I need to
:09:22. > :09:28.find one, luckily this week so far I have managed to find one. The
:09:29. > :09:33.pressure was enormous, to be fair. Wonder bowls, to be fair, just at
:09:34. > :09:38.the right time, third ball, fourth bowl, left me in all sorts of
:09:39. > :09:45.trouble. Sometimes, nowhere to go. Yeah, lots of pressure. Get over the
:09:46. > :09:53.line, find a couple of good one that the right time. I know to my
:09:54. > :09:59.detriment how good a player Stewart is, he beat me here in the semifinal
:10:00. > :10:05.back in 2010, I think. Beat me again in Scotland last year, so I alone
:10:06. > :10:10.know how good steward can play, no need for me to look any further than
:10:11. > :10:14.this game. I'm doing everything I can for this next game because the
:10:15. > :10:18.dream of Sunday evaporate fairly quickly if you don't get past
:10:19. > :10:24.Friday. Stewart Howarth proven a good opponent for me so there is no
:10:25. > :10:27.need for me to look further at the moment.
:10:28. > :10:30.It is fair to say we can say this about every quarterfinal today, the
:10:31. > :10:34.talent on show is fantastic, the best player in the world against one
:10:35. > :10:38.of the most naturally gifted in Stewart Anderson. Absolutely, in
:10:39. > :10:44.2010 we could not believe just how good he was and he followed it up
:10:45. > :10:48.three years later. He is a natural player, a fluent player, and Nicky
:10:49. > :10:53.is in for another tough game. You have said that about every match
:10:54. > :10:58.Nicky has played so far, and he has perhaps not been his absolute best,
:10:59. > :11:02.but is that what champions do, get better as the tournament progresses?
:11:03. > :11:07.Yes, a slow burner in many ways but I have been more impressed that he
:11:08. > :11:10.has played the big bowl at the right time, face the project played the
:11:11. > :11:14.ball, won the match, it has been superb to do that but I think
:11:15. > :11:22.Stewart Hall pushing this time. Will you call the winner? Tie-break, last
:11:23. > :11:30.bowl. You are such a fence sitter! Corgi has got to doubts -- Corky has
:11:31. > :11:35.got to dash, he is commentating on this, so over to our MC.
:11:36. > :11:40.MC: Our first player has gained the utmost respect from his peers, twice
:11:41. > :11:51.a world under 25 and former world indoor singles champion, ladies and
:11:52. > :12:05.gentlemen, it is Stewart Anderson! MUSIC.
:12:06. > :12:11.MC: And this world number one has proven time and time again what a
:12:12. > :12:15.formidable opponent he can be. The recently crowned mixed pairs match
:12:16. > :12:19.play and defending world indoor singles champion, give it up for
:12:20. > :12:34.Nick Brett! MUSIC.
:12:35. > :12:40.A really good atmosphere inside the auditorium here at Potters as we get
:12:41. > :12:43.ready for this quarterfinal match. In the commentary box alongside
:12:44. > :12:52.Corky is three-time former world singles champion Andy Thompson.
:12:53. > :12:56.DAVID CORKILL: Thank you, that 200 job -- is getting more difficult
:12:57. > :13:12.every year! To be honest with you, Andy, I think
:13:13. > :13:16.this will be a tie-break down to the last bowl. I agree, I would not be
:13:17. > :13:20.surprised. Both players playing very well, the last two times he has
:13:21. > :13:32.played Stewart Anderson he has lost, so psychologically Stewart Hall feel
:13:33. > :13:38.he can still beat this player. -- Stewart will feel. I hope both
:13:39. > :13:40.players play to their potential, because it will be an absolute
:13:41. > :14:01.treat. Both very capable of gripping the
:14:02. > :14:09.balls, and two strikes best. I have said at the moment nobody is
:14:10. > :14:20.striking better than Nicky Brett. I expected his first couple of bowls
:14:21. > :14:24.to be closer. Yes, Stewart Anderson is very much a naturally gifted
:14:25. > :14:26.player and when he appeared here six or seven years ago he was going into
:14:27. > :14:41.the top seed. A lot of people had him as a fluke winning the
:14:42. > :14:51.match, he was a new name to us, so young at that time. Yes, skips for
:14:52. > :15:16.Scotland now, top-class player. Getting closer with every ball.
:15:17. > :15:38.Six balls played, no bowl past the jack. That is unusual.
:15:39. > :15:51.Change onto the backhand, very easy to drop short on this side. Yes,
:15:52. > :15:57.just short again, four short balls. The carpet is possibly changed, the
:15:58. > :16:02.players are always entitled to 30 minute roll-up. Both players were
:16:03. > :16:05.playing well in the roll-up. Mystified by that. It so often
:16:06. > :16:11.happens, that changeover from forehand to backhand. Coming the
:16:12. > :16:16.other direction, the backhand seems to float on nicely, the forehand
:16:17. > :16:22.just holds that a little bit. But a good chance than Nicky Brett. Just
:16:23. > :16:30.needs to hurry to make it past the green one. Oh, that is a missed a
:16:31. > :16:35.chance, Andy, and those do add up. Both players just slightly caught
:16:36. > :16:39.out with the pace. Yes, by the time they stop practising and come onto
:16:40. > :16:43.the rink, it is only a matter of five, six minutes, so it shouldn't
:16:44. > :16:49.really change, it wouldn't in that timescale. But there is practice and
:16:50. > :16:51.practice, and then there is the match. Yes, and nerves come into
:16:52. > :17:49.play. We always say Friday, quarterfinal
:17:50. > :17:55.day, best day of the tournament. Certainly years, David. Four
:17:56. > :17:59.Scotland- England clashes. First rubber on the board obviously to
:18:00. > :18:12.England. Three exciting games to come.
:18:13. > :18:17.Stewart Anderson, I'm sure he will be named in the Scotland elite squad
:18:18. > :18:23.for consideration for the Commonwealth Games next year. I
:18:24. > :18:27.believe that is being denounced fairly shortly. Yes, I think David
:18:28. > :18:30.was saying that he will get these championships out of the way then
:18:31. > :18:43.probably enacted in the next few weeks. -- probably announce it.
:18:44. > :18:47.There is his fiancee, Claire. Scottish international player in her
:18:48. > :18:57.own right. She really understands the game, one of the few
:18:58. > :19:06.partnerships in bowls where the partner is an international player.
:19:07. > :19:15.Stewart is in a good place at the moment personally and bowling wise,
:19:16. > :19:21.because he has been playing well. Not sure about this one, slight
:19:22. > :19:32.grimace there. Doesn't look too bad. Mr the run. Not far away -- he
:19:33. > :19:38.missed the run. Yes, that is a shot bowl. Weight was good all the way
:19:39. > :19:44.but the look on his face you almost thought he pushed it out too far.
:19:45. > :19:52.Big buyers bowl. Came back, Jack level. You are learning the new
:19:53. > :20:05.terminology! Not like you! I don't usually call it Jack level, I will
:20:06. > :20:20.go back to jack height! Looks good. Use the ball first, then the jack.
:20:21. > :20:23.He uses Stewart's last ball. Stewart have the same shot available on the
:20:24. > :20:29.backhand or can change to the forehand for a little turn on the
:20:30. > :20:35.jack to make it a double. Jack through, as you say, could score
:20:36. > :20:39.three. Just has to remember to push this a little bit, a lot of bowls
:20:40. > :20:46.drop short when you move across onto the forehand. Weight looks good. He
:20:47. > :20:56.is giving this a try. Great ball, absolutely fantastic ball. Wasn't
:20:57. > :21:05.that a superb change of hand? I think he has picked up the trouble.
:21:06. > :21:10.Fantastic bowl. Such is the green, nestles in these three balls, three
:21:11. > :21:19.shots to Stewart Anderson. Well played, Stewart, gave that every
:21:20. > :21:23.opportunity. That is confident shot, Andy, a real injection in the arm,
:21:24. > :21:27.to say, I'm feeling good today. Certainly was, change of hand, first
:21:28. > :21:52.time he has played the forehand in direction. -- in this direction.
:21:53. > :22:38.Stewart has always favoured the shorter length.
:22:39. > :22:49.Nicky Brett, Peterborough not too far-away. About an hour away, close
:22:50. > :23:01.enough to bring some support. This is close, very close. He wants clean
:23:02. > :23:23.jack for this one. Got it. Second delivery from Nicky
:23:24. > :23:33.Brett. Not sure if Stewart is running with this one. Must be a
:23:34. > :23:48.change now, he won't want to negotiate the green ball. Move on to
:23:49. > :23:59.the backhand. Just needs to hurry to get past. Is that target the Stewart
:24:00. > :24:04.Anderson? Will be seat Stewart's first running board of the game? He
:24:05. > :24:11.has absolutely no back position, he is pushing red bowls onto Jack if he
:24:12. > :24:15.doesn't get them clean. If he does play the backhand, it is risky,
:24:16. > :24:22.forehand tap on his own ball would be good. Trying to touch his closest
:24:23. > :24:35.green ball up and draw the short clean.
:24:36. > :24:44.Oh, not quite. Just dropping James Short. Nicky Brett's going to get at
:24:45. > :25:06.least two of the three lost back again.
:25:07. > :25:23.Not going to force his way through that gap. Not sure if that formal
:25:24. > :25:28.count, certainly got two. Didn't even look at that. He knew before he
:25:29. > :25:40.played the ball if he make that particular gap it wasn't going to be
:25:41. > :25:48.enough. Good start, good bowling. Large crowd here as always for the
:25:49. > :25:52.world finals. The vast majority of these people will be here for the
:25:53. > :26:02.next couple of days as well, tickets all the way through to Sunday. Busy
:26:03. > :26:06.weekend. It is, as well as the singles event I think the juniors
:26:07. > :26:15.are arriving tomorrow, David. Some here already, practising. Ellen from
:26:16. > :26:21.Australia has been here for a while, get as many hours on the green as
:26:22. > :26:25.possible. Karen Murphy tells me she's an extremely talented player.
:26:26. > :26:43.Three British Isles men, I believe. Last ball of Stewart's just short,
:26:44. > :27:00.forcing Nicky onto the forehand side. Looks to be under. Only just.
:27:01. > :27:15.You know how this forehand plays. It does come off a high line, dives
:27:16. > :27:24.deep in the end. Very unlucky, wasn't he? He was, stone number one
:27:25. > :27:29.but just got the jack. -- stolen the one. He would have wanted half of
:27:30. > :27:40.the jack, really, but just caught it fall. Nicky Brett is looking at this
:27:41. > :27:51.one. Oh, well played. Looks very close now. Good bowl. The gap
:27:52. > :27:58.between the two red ones? Ten inches.
:27:59. > :28:04.Tempted with the two bowls, ten inches is close enough to take a
:28:05. > :28:08.risk. I thought he would have taken a risk, but sticking to the forehand
:28:09. > :28:15.draw, he has played this hand well so far. Hoping to get through that
:28:16. > :28:24.gap. Hard shot. Make it through the inside gap instead. Oh, very nearly!
:28:25. > :28:29.Well, that provides an opportunity now. Yes, Stewart will have a chance
:28:30. > :28:30.with his final delivery but Nicky may change this head, still the
:28:31. > :28:52.forehand. This looks to be under, he is not
:28:53. > :28:58.changing it so this is a big chance the Stewart Anderson. See if he gets
:28:59. > :29:02.through that gap, he has. Massive chance the Stewart Anderson, all
:29:03. > :29:06.sorts of targets to aim for. Straight into there would be the
:29:07. > :29:10.perfect result. That ball will disappear but even if he is a bit on
:29:11. > :29:15.the narrow side and it is under this one, it will do the same thing. He
:29:16. > :29:19.has also got to follow through on that centre green ball. Hit the
:29:20. > :29:28.target here, there is a good chance he will get a result. That front
:29:29. > :29:36.ball is worth two. Plenty of weight. He is in the area, it is how with
:29:37. > :29:45.your luck now. Even better to get the ball solid onto the other one.
:29:46. > :29:51.Hit the target, good result. Yes, I wasn't sure if that bowl was going
:29:52. > :29:55.absolutely past the jack but it certainly did and took the other one
:29:56. > :30:02.out. It is a shop we looked at a couple of bowls ago. Good with the
:30:03. > :30:06.forehand, isn't he? Yes, in this direction it allows you to play that
:30:07. > :30:09.shot, probably the only hand on the green that allows you to play that
:30:10. > :30:14.with weight, all the players are happy playing that shot.
:30:15. > :30:24.It is a big three. It just shows the value of getting another bowl in,
:30:25. > :30:39.Nicky Mr chance. Yes, Mr chance with his final delivery.
:30:40. > :30:50.This length is just catching Stewart out a little bit, the fuller length.
:30:51. > :30:55.I am sure there are a lot of people watching at his Blantyre club at the
:30:56. > :30:59.moment. Yes, they have had their superstar Charlie, he has already
:31:00. > :31:06.showed how good the club is. I bet he is up there watching. I am sure
:31:07. > :31:12.he is. Hi, Charlie. Hope you have stopped your celebrating. No, keep
:31:13. > :31:17.going, you deserve it! He will be a big star at his club at the moment.
:31:18. > :31:20.I still smile at the way he played his game, very refreshing. It is the
:31:21. > :31:23.game everybody is talking about at the moment. Captured the imagination
:31:24. > :31:38.of the public. It looks better. And it is. Yes,
:31:39. > :32:09.that has tucked the bowl in behind. Giving this a look. Well played! He
:32:10. > :32:16.has played that forehand really well. Yes, he is very much at home
:32:17. > :32:23.with that one. And that is not going to help him, the way that is
:32:24. > :32:28.sitting. Going in early, third bowl. Got to be closer. It is a horrible
:32:29. > :32:33.result. There was always that risk. That is the worst possible result.
:32:34. > :32:38.The target was reasonably wide, he catches it and needed an angle, he
:32:39. > :32:45.caught the bowl solid. And he moves the green bowl down. That is not
:32:46. > :32:57.good for Nicky Brett. Yes, that has taken the target away. That green
:32:58. > :33:00.bowl dropping. You play the outdoor game and various versions of the
:33:01. > :33:07.outdoor game and you think a foot away is a really, really good bowl,
:33:08. > :33:12.Andy. But down here, if you are not within a few inches... You do not
:33:13. > :33:17.score. The margins are much tighter in the indoor game can you do not
:33:18. > :33:22.have the weather conditions, the grass, the difficulties, various
:33:23. > :33:28.other obstacles. But you still have to be very, very accurate. Really
:33:29. > :33:32.accurate. It doesn't suit everybody. This is interesting what Nicky has
:33:33. > :33:36.got to play here. He still has to play beforehand run-off. That last
:33:37. > :33:45.bowl of Stewart made the target bigger. Through the gap. Fortunate
:33:46. > :33:48.result. He is happy with that. Is he ever! He will be delighted with that
:33:49. > :34:37.one. At the moment, Stewart Anderson just
:34:38. > :35:27.having the edge. APPLAUSE.
:35:28. > :35:33.If Stewart starts to draw like this, he really is a tough man to beat.
:35:34. > :35:38.Yes, he is very good and Nicky has turned its back on that one. And he
:35:39. > :35:44.has taken his back bowl away as well. That is horrible now. Well, it
:35:45. > :35:50.wasn't a bad result because if you missed the target, anything can
:35:51. > :35:54.happen. I think we have seen him missing a target for the first time
:35:55. > :36:01.this week, I think. He has not missed very many. He is in a lot of
:36:02. > :36:07.trouble now, Stewart Anderson doesn't even need to think about
:36:08. > :36:11.getting position, the red bowl is on at the moment. Just keep going and
:36:12. > :36:18.try very hard not to make the target even wider. That is not bad. That is
:36:19. > :36:22.good, that is really good, Brett might have to think about drawing
:36:23. > :36:29.here. It must be a forehand runner. He plays so well coming hits most of
:36:30. > :36:34.them. What is it like? Good. Well played. Really good bowl. Touching
:36:35. > :36:40.the desk, that doesn't matter, it is where the jack has finished.
:36:41. > :36:46.Probably a good two, 2.5 metres in front of the green bowls and I think
:36:47. > :36:51.he will be happy with that. He certainly will be, he was three
:36:52. > :36:55.shots down, no bowls on the head, still three down but the closer bowl
:36:56. > :37:05.is two yards away. Talking to somebody in the audience. His mother
:37:06. > :37:12.is here, so probably had a little chat to her. Stewart, as expected,
:37:13. > :37:18.draws a shot, but there is room for Nicky. He will guarantee second, no
:37:19. > :37:25.doubt about that. He would give the shot a good run for its money but
:37:26. > :37:33.guaranteed second shot. He really needs to score this end, four
:37:34. > :37:39.behind. If he scores the shot here, he has done well to score from this
:37:40. > :37:47.end and this looks like the winner. Well played, Nicky Brett. That was a
:37:48. > :37:56.very very, very good shot. And Stewart Anderson played four very
:37:57. > :38:01.good bowls. No mistake, right in behind the jack with the last one.
:38:02. > :38:04.This will be interesting to see where this jack goes because he
:38:05. > :38:09.knows Stewart is playing better with the longer length but Nicky has been
:38:10. > :38:25.favouring that as well. A little bit shorter, I think. Not really. Not
:38:26. > :38:35.much, maybe half a metre. He is still in the mix.
:38:36. > :38:45.Key end, nine end set. The player coming from behind really needs to
:38:46. > :38:48.score the shot, otherwise they will be fishing around the last two ends
:38:49. > :39:15.and chasing the game. APPLAUSE. Judy Potter. Eggshell blue
:39:16. > :39:20.and white and a little bit of grey in there! How do you know these
:39:21. > :39:26.things? Do you know these colours or do you speak to Judy? No, I don't
:39:27. > :39:32.speak to Judy. I don't speak to Judy, I give my Dulux card and any
:39:33. > :39:39.other manufacturer of paint colours and I look at it, that is all. Well
:39:40. > :39:49.done, you! Fashion Guru, you should know that! Well, Stewart is 1-0 in
:39:50. > :39:55.the bowl battle. Just dropping short. And once again, that is set
:39:56. > :40:01.up for Nicky Brett if he wants to attack it. Nice plants. Lovely
:40:02. > :40:05.plans, that is tempting for him the way he is playing the game. Yes,
:40:06. > :40:11.going for it. Playing it on the backhand. He wants the inside one,
:40:12. > :40:15.that is the perfect one. Well, that is not ideal, that is not bad,
:40:16. > :40:20.brings him right out into the Open. I think he reckoned he was on that
:40:21. > :40:25.one. Yes, you thought he was going to get a better result. He got the
:40:26. > :40:29.target, he just did not get a good result. Stewart Anderson has two or
:40:30. > :40:33.three yards to draw the shot which he will do, it is how close you can
:40:34. > :40:42.get because this is not an easy path now to the jack. Well, he is going
:40:43. > :40:47.up the narrow side. You have to be careful not to push the bowl out too
:40:48. > :40:57.far or it will drop away. This will not be close to the jack but it is
:40:58. > :41:03.good enough for shot at the moment. The advantage of having the last
:41:04. > :41:08.bowl, he has two goes at that. Yes, exactly, and he has to go white here
:41:09. > :41:13.and he is wide. He is on a beautiful line, has he pushed it? That was six
:41:14. > :41:18.inches from the advertising boards, well played, Nicky Brett. That is a
:41:19. > :41:26.beauty, he has recovered well! He will be absolutely no doubt what is
:41:27. > :41:33.going to happen now, jack in the ditch. He was so close to the
:41:34. > :41:40.advertising boards. Touchers the jack, that helps. Did not see the
:41:41. > :41:44.touch, a bowl in the ditch is no good to Stewart, he has to play
:41:45. > :41:58.slightly differently and he needs to look for the jack. Close. Good
:41:59. > :42:08.effort, really good effort! Small target, the bowl was not enough. 7-5
:42:09. > :42:18.to Stewart. Nicky is hanging on here. Big bowls, Nicky Brett.
:42:19. > :42:23.Certainly is, certainly not winning the battle to the jack she first but
:42:24. > :42:28.his conversion shots have always been good and saving him he. Yes,
:42:29. > :42:50.the hit and recovery. Hardest thing to do.
:42:51. > :43:20.It continues, Stewart gets out first. He is doing a lot of damage
:43:21. > :43:26.with the first to bowls, Stewart. He certainly has been better player.
:43:27. > :43:34.But Nicky Brett is not world number one for nothing, that is why he is a
:43:35. > :43:36.good recovery player. That was a decent second end, yet again, he
:43:37. > :43:59.needs to win this end. I think this is a deliberate bowl.
:44:00. > :44:07.About two yards through, I think that is deliberate from Stewart.
:44:08. > :44:14.Forehand, this weight gain. The forehand, there is no choice, it has
:44:15. > :44:21.to be. It goes across his body. He got his own! That would have been a
:44:22. > :44:27.shocking result. Well, Nicky is in trouble now. He has committed
:44:28. > :44:32.himself, hasn't he? Stewart will look for another one in. Tactically,
:44:33. > :44:36.that was a good second bowl, we can see it at the bottom of the screen,
:44:37. > :44:40.that was good from Stewart Anderson. He has put another one back, I don't
:44:41. > :44:47.know if this one is deliberate. No, I think he was trying to draw that.
:44:48. > :44:51.I think so, Nicky might just go for the bowl. I think he will, he has
:44:52. > :44:57.two. If you resist two and Stewart Anderson the last bowl so if users
:44:58. > :45:03.too, he will be four down and that is almost impossible, so I think you
:45:04. > :45:09.will drive that. Even going to be down is hard on the last end. Yes,
:45:10. > :45:17.trying to quit the bowl out, not the jack. Got that way better. He is
:45:18. > :45:21.more interested in it. He is close. That is really lucky, jack in the
:45:22. > :45:26.ditch would be really difficult to beat. That was going into the ditch
:45:27. > :45:32.as well. So unlucky, perfect strike, one on the board for Stewart
:45:33. > :45:38.Anderson. Nicky, watch this jack. That would have ended up probably
:45:39. > :45:44.two feet away from his bowl in the ditch and that would have been a
:45:45. > :45:52.hard shot to beat. But now, before you said, Andy, and I will be back
:45:53. > :45:57.myself on this one. Short bowl coming in, not very close, but that
:45:58. > :46:02.does not matter. Good enough for one. It is a long way away! I am
:46:03. > :46:10.sure Stewart will smile at that one. Yes, he is! That was a long way
:46:11. > :46:14.away! Good enough. It doesn't need to be pretty, he just needs to
:46:15. > :46:19.score. That is what it is about, closer than your opponent and he did
:46:20. > :47:06.that with his last bowl, 8-5, good position here for Stewart Anderson.
:47:07. > :47:25.There is no better Indoor Championships than these, no matter
:47:26. > :47:33.where you are in the world. It gets the biggest crowds, TV audiences. I
:47:34. > :47:36.think it is fair to say, probably the most exciting matches. Without a
:47:37. > :47:43.doubt, we have been entertained well this week. Top-class bowling from
:47:44. > :47:48.day one. Fantastic pairs games, Mixed Pairs, Lady singles final,
:47:49. > :47:53.really good bowls. And as you say, the crowds have been fantastic from
:47:54. > :48:00.day one. Once again, Stewart Anderson getting in there. Two
:48:01. > :48:04.bowls. Nicky will have to change his game around a little bit. He will
:48:05. > :48:10.have to do something tactically different, this bowl is not close. I
:48:11. > :48:12.think he is trying to run the jack through so he is deliberately
:48:13. > :48:19.putting the first bowl through the head. Yes, I think the next bowl
:48:20. > :48:27.from Stewart will not be near the jack, deliberately trying to split
:48:28. > :48:34.the two red bowls. Run for cover. Trail shot still has to be played,
:48:35. > :48:38.hard to pick up the jack. Just bringing that the shot four feet,
:48:39. > :48:43.very definitely there. I just wonder, I was going to say if he
:48:44. > :48:48.were to drive the two bowls because no matter where Stewart put his
:48:49. > :48:52.last, he would be after it. I think this is deliberate. He has Trail
:48:53. > :48:58.dare she has tried to Trail the jack. That is what he is after.
:48:59. > :49:03.Well, it stayed on, that gives Stewart Moore to think about. I
:49:04. > :49:08.think it needs another bowl on the head. Probably does. His birds
:49:09. > :49:14.delivery has beaten Nicky's so he needs another in. -- his first
:49:15. > :49:29.delivery. But both these bowls could go out the head.
:49:30. > :49:40.Yes, he is very much on a nice draw line to try and split, here it
:49:41. > :49:46.comes. Splitting the red bowls, perfect. That was good, there is not
:49:47. > :49:54.a three here, I am sure, for Nicky. Impossible to score three. Having a
:49:55. > :50:02.drive to wide. Bit of a practice shot, that was all.
:50:03. > :50:05.APPLAUSE. A deserved first set for Stewart
:50:06. > :50:13.Anderson, he was the better player, no complaints from Nicky I wouldn't
:50:14. > :50:23.think. No, he can only go so far with the recovery bowls and you have
:50:24. > :50:27.to build their heads. Yes, Nicky will have to change this in little
:50:28. > :50:33.bit, he knows his opening bowl so far has not been good enough to get
:50:34. > :50:46.Stewart playing the running bowls. He needs to pick his game up.
:50:47. > :50:52.That was quite an interesting comment we saw before the game that
:50:53. > :50:55.Nicky just feels a little bit tired. Possibly everything that he has been
:50:56. > :50:58.doing this week has just caught up with him. It is difficult just to
:50:59. > :51:04.keep producing top-class performances all the time. Well, it
:51:05. > :51:10.is straining when you played two very tough games, no doubt about
:51:11. > :51:14.that. They are short games, it is not like the days when we used to
:51:15. > :51:18.play three-hour matches. Yes, they are, but having said that, he has
:51:19. > :51:22.been involved in top pairs games, Mixed Pairs games, and a lot of
:51:23. > :51:30.tension in all the Games. Perhaps it has taken its toll a little bit
:51:31. > :51:37.here. Good recovery. Very much softer. You are not getting the
:51:38. > :51:54.medicine! I remember the days of playing long for our finals. -- four
:51:55. > :52:02.our finals. They were tough. On occasions, two in one day. Yes.
:52:03. > :52:08.Yes, we have got it all crammed into a two-week event with the singles
:52:09. > :52:16.and pairs. We used to have the pairs as a separate event. This is better
:52:17. > :52:21.from Nicky. That is more like it. Get the first two bowls and I don't
:52:22. > :52:26.think Stewart will waste time with this. Again, a good runner takes the
:52:27. > :52:32.damage away, but he is playing beforehand so well. Could just draw
:52:33. > :52:36.this on the forehand, he has played so well every time he has been
:52:37. > :52:45.forced onto it. He does not need to play with weight here. He is playing
:52:46. > :52:50.it so well, you just think, draw this shot and if he misses the jack,
:52:51. > :52:56.gets into another good position. Good choice of shot and well played,
:52:57. > :53:03.Stewart Anderson. But not afford to be too happy. He has now got the
:53:04. > :53:10.back position and Nicky Brett once again... He is quick and he is
:53:11. > :53:17.under. He is too quick on this one. Just underneath. The only shot he
:53:18. > :53:20.could play. Every time Stewart Anderson has been forced onto this
:53:21. > :53:24.forehand side, he has played a great bowl and he will start to think, I
:53:25. > :53:32.should maybe lead on the forehand side. He has got to be careful here.
:53:33. > :53:40.He has two back bowls, but the full back bowl is Nicky's. We will see
:53:41. > :53:46.where he decides to go, he has to be very careful if he is trying to draw
:53:47. > :53:51.another shot. I tell you what, it is going to be very close to his own
:53:52. > :53:55.bowl. Catches his own bowl and he gives the shot away. Very well
:53:56. > :54:02.played, if he falls in, that is perfect. That is exhibition stuff!
:54:03. > :54:07.You have to be very, very careful. A touch would have given the shot
:54:08. > :54:09.away. Stewart Anderson is just looking so confident out here,
:54:10. > :54:32.drawing everything well. That is his fiancee Claire and to
:54:33. > :54:36.the right, that is Billy, his dad. Always comes down to watch Stewart
:54:37. > :54:41.play. Yes, good supporters for Stewart. And they will be pleased
:54:42. > :55:27.the way he is playing at the moment. Well, we have seen so often in
:55:28. > :55:31.previous matches, the first two bowls have had a major effect on the
:55:32. > :55:38.outcome. Well, Stewart, doesn't matter which
:55:39. > :55:42.hand it is, his playing, he has played every single bowl so close to
:55:43. > :55:51.that gap. Perfect display so far. He has got this. Very good, well
:55:52. > :56:16.played, Nicky. Again, that lovely isn't delivery of
:56:17. > :56:23.Stewart Anderson -- easy delivery. He walks off the mat but the bowl is
:56:24. > :56:28.already away. Yes, really good, really smooth. Play its wide and you
:56:29. > :56:50.have a good chance to get it close here.
:56:51. > :56:58.You still expect him to draw. Yes, that has probably finished two feet
:56:59. > :56:59.short and the way this man is playing, you would not be surprised
:57:00. > :57:24.if he draws the winner here. Certainly picked a line. I think he
:57:25. > :57:25.has done it. Yes, I think he has. Well played, Stewart Anderson,
:57:26. > :57:36.fantastic. Don't think he would be short on
:57:37. > :57:41.this one, David. No, pushed the bowl out, I don't think he will even
:57:42. > :57:46.attempt to draw it. He has got his own bowl to push in and he has got
:57:47. > :57:51.two seconds so the bowl out is with a double. He is way onto with this
:57:52. > :58:00.one, he needs a bit of good luck. Possibly a lot of luck! Has he got
:58:01. > :58:04.it? I don't think so. Well, the hand acknowledges it, but not quite sure
:58:05. > :58:16.if he has been lucky or not. Difficult to tell. Well, calling the
:58:17. > :58:19.umpire. Nicky immediately apologised to Stewart, acknowledging a
:58:20. > :58:24.fortunate result. But at this stage in the set, it is not really
:58:25. > :58:29.dramatic and it is only one shot. Yes, he was always under but all
:58:30. > :58:33.players get a lucky break. Two players who will not be concerned
:58:34. > :58:45.about a bit of fortune at this stage. Well, it is 1 degrees. You
:58:46. > :59:05.can see that quite easily. A good half inch in that one.
:59:06. > :59:12.Well, that didn't exactly test the skills of France Fletcher. That
:59:13. > :59:31.measure. APPLAUSE.
:59:32. > :59:59.Quality bowling. Yes, we will just have a little
:00:00. > :00:27.chat, Robert Paxton with a game off. Still doing a bit of damage with
:00:28. > :00:35.those first bowls. He is forcing Nicky into so many running bowls
:00:36. > :00:40.here, it is just unbelievable. That is good bowling from Nicky as well,
:00:41. > :00:45.recovering well with that strike. He is really just trying to hang dead
:00:46. > :00:48.at the moment. He is hanging on because he knows he is being totally
:00:49. > :00:58.out drawn. The good thing for Nicky is he has such a big forehand, high
:00:59. > :01:04.percentage. Five feet from the ditch, you would expect Stewart to
:01:05. > :01:08.draw this one. Yes, had it been three, he would have been looking
:01:09. > :01:21.very much for second shot. Five feet, has to go for the shot. And he
:01:22. > :01:31.has, what a bowl. He has played it well. Superb bowling. You normally
:01:32. > :01:35.get a little wry smile out of Stewart when he does that. He has no
:01:36. > :01:42.choice but to try to draw close as well at this stage. He is trying to
:01:43. > :01:50.encourage this one up. Good effort. Very good effort. That blocks the
:01:51. > :01:55.pats now to take the green ball out. -- blocks the path. Same again from
:01:56. > :02:29.Stewart. He is so close again, isn't he? It
:02:30. > :02:40.is going to be hard to tell but that is really good stuff. You can see
:02:41. > :02:45.the red ball in front, that is where the difficulty is for Nicky Brett,
:02:46. > :02:50.he is going to have to play this on the forehand. Try to take the two
:02:51. > :03:02.green balls out. He is having a good look at it. Oh! I don't think there
:03:03. > :03:05.is a gap there, is there? I could understand if there was a full
:03:06. > :03:10.drive, but such controlled weight. I think that is what Stewart said,
:03:11. > :03:22.there isn't a gap there! I don't think he touched anything! Nothing
:03:23. > :03:28.moved, nothing moved. Well, I have to say, that was very, good shot.
:03:29. > :03:42.Yes, it was. Nothing for it. Oh, dear me. Stewart Anderson 5-0 in
:03:43. > :03:50.front. Playing very well. That is the thing about Stewart, he's such a
:03:51. > :03:55.gifted player ranked number nine, and that is really too low for a
:03:56. > :04:09.player of his quality. Yes, he is definitely a top eight player,
:04:10. > :04:18.without a doubt. Once again coming into within a of the jack. He won't
:04:19. > :04:21.be thinking about anything, Stewart, other than what he is trying to do
:04:22. > :04:29.at the moment, but he will be in there battling for his place to come
:04:30. > :04:36.up against people like Ronnie Duncan and one or two others, Ronnie is an
:04:37. > :04:40.excellent player. As far as I was concerned, he should have been in
:04:41. > :04:45.the team, but that is only my opinion, but he will certainly force
:04:46. > :04:49.himself into the squad, hoping to make the Commonwealth team. Big
:04:50. > :04:53.difference between indoor and outdoor, of course, and Stewart's
:04:54. > :04:57.experience outdoors isn't anything like it was indoors, but the
:04:58. > :05:04.difference is the location, the fast streets of Australia. Scotland have
:05:05. > :05:16.got so much talent available, they really have. Victim-macro teams.
:05:17. > :05:28.-- pick two teams. Even for the world number one, that is a hard
:05:29. > :05:35.shot. He is finding this hard today, Nicky. I think any player would be
:05:36. > :05:45.finding this hard, the way Stewart Anderson explained. -- the way
:05:46. > :05:46.Stewart Anderson is playing. Wants to take the side ball away if you
:05:47. > :06:04.can. -- the side bowl. Back to the draw, I think. The
:06:05. > :06:08.second set could run away from the world number one very, very easily.
:06:09. > :06:17.He will have to play a really big bowl here. He is in the area. Good
:06:18. > :06:20.bowl, close by Crowe one, still three down and I wouldn't be at all
:06:21. > :06:30.surprised if Stewart Anderson decides to go deep with this one.
:06:31. > :06:35.There were other boys, the experts. They are saying, I could do as well
:06:36. > :06:38.is that! They are in the restaurant every night, I see them on the way
:06:39. > :06:56.past and they are all drinking water. I think Stewart will be going
:06:57. > :07:02.deep with this one. Good bowl here. Stewart is more or less teasing
:07:03. > :07:06.Nicky on this one, isn't he? To be fair, if Nicky hits the target here,
:07:07. > :07:13.he will probably get the shot with his deepest bowl. Needs the jack to
:07:14. > :07:18.go right back. He is interested, front bowl is the problem. Front
:07:19. > :07:31.ball was always the problem. Still probably three down. I think it is
:07:32. > :07:45.only two, Stewart. Two shots, Stewart Anderson.
:07:46. > :07:54.The school board is ticking over and the ends are disappearing. -- the
:07:55. > :08:05.score board. He really needs to get account, Nicky Brett, his title
:08:06. > :08:10.sliding away. He needs a big four or five ends to get any chance of
:08:11. > :08:11.making it through this game. Stewart Anderson is just not giving the
:08:12. > :08:54.room, just played too good. Shake of the head as if to say,
:08:55. > :09:02.where has that all been most of this match?! Good character, is Nicky.
:09:03. > :09:05.Every time Stewart Anderson has changed to this forehand, he has
:09:06. > :09:21.played a good one. I don't believe this. He has drawn it. It is going
:09:22. > :09:39.to fall in. It is on its way, there it goes, by the by. -- goodbye. Had
:09:40. > :09:45.to happen. Good reply from Nicky. Needs to touch it, though. That will
:09:46. > :09:52.probably convince him to have a go with the next one on the forehand.
:09:53. > :09:53.He has had enough practice! I think you are right, it will just
:09:54. > :10:23.beforehand forehand runner again. I don't know if he's trying to block
:10:24. > :10:27.him out here. That is good, that. That is very good. The shot is still
:10:28. > :10:37.there but it is a very controlled shops now. Gets his own closest bowl
:10:38. > :10:46.onto the green, the two will disappear. He is having to play a
:10:47. > :10:49.time chip, this is difficult. -- play a timing shot. It is a hard
:10:50. > :10:56.ball to play, you have to work out the break of the bowl. Stewart's
:10:57. > :11:05.clever bowl made him play that weight, David. Respot position, that
:11:06. > :11:16.is what he's after, in case the jack moves.
:11:17. > :11:26.He's not on a high line, he is on a draw line. He has to be careful
:11:27. > :11:32.here. I don't agree with this one, Stewart. That is crazy. I don't
:11:33. > :11:42.believe you played that shot. That was not the right shot. I'm not
:11:43. > :11:47.sure... It is your own fault, Stewart, you should not have gone
:11:48. > :11:53.near that. I have a feeling he just went for the wrong line. He is too
:11:54. > :11:58.clever for that. He knew if he went anywhere near that, the chances were
:11:59. > :12:09.his shot would be against. I think he just missed his line. As you say,
:12:10. > :12:17.the weight was good. Stewart has gone up here close, possibility that
:12:18. > :12:20.both balls are touching. One way to check it, but the white strip
:12:21. > :12:27.underneath and just see if there is a gap on either side. I don't think
:12:28. > :12:37.we have seen that this week. No, not so far, but it is an easy way to
:12:38. > :12:41.check it. One shot, Nick Brett. I don't think that one will come back
:12:42. > :12:47.and bite him, he is playing too well and has a big enough gap. But I
:12:48. > :12:50.think you just missed his line, I will give him the benefit of the
:12:51. > :12:56.doubt because of the way he is playing. Nick has brought the matter
:12:57. > :13:07.quite the way up the green here, so this will be shorter. -- brought the
:13:08. > :13:19.mat. Well, 7-1 instead of 8-0, still a good lead. I think if Stewart
:13:20. > :13:23.Anderson had been scratching around 4-3 down or something like that it
:13:24. > :13:29.would be different, but the way he's playing I just can't see it having a
:13:30. > :13:49.major effect. No, I don't think so. He's just playing too well.
:13:50. > :14:00.Oh, Nicky, something wrong with this one. Dear oh dear. Goodness me, he
:14:01. > :14:03.is in trouble. As I said earlier on, I don't know whether the whole week
:14:04. > :14:10.has just caught up with him, just looking at the tired out there,
:14:11. > :14:14.finding it hard. To be there, the way Stewart Anderson is playing, I
:14:15. > :14:22.think everybody would be struggling, he has been outstanding. Yes, in
:14:23. > :14:28.comparison his first two rounds have been relatively straightforward,
:14:29. > :14:40.comfortable win over Julie Forrest from hoick. Trying to get down to
:14:41. > :14:47.this bowl again. That is worse. He is getting forced into manufacturing
:14:48. > :14:50.shots, it is so hard. Second round against Graham McKee, he did not
:14:51. > :14:56.play anywhere near the first much, Graham. Yes, thanks for reminding
:14:57. > :15:01.me, he was excellent against me but did not find his form against
:15:02. > :15:10.Stewart. That happens. So he have had plenty in the tank.
:15:11. > :15:15.I think Stewart went home for a few days, and that has probably helped
:15:16. > :15:21.as well, just come back a little bit fresher. Just a little bit of
:15:22. > :15:26.movement in the crowd there. The thing with a shot like that, it just
:15:27. > :15:33.catches your eye. I know the crown green guys go mad like that because
:15:34. > :15:38.they are not used to playing with -- they are just used to playing with
:15:39. > :15:53.anything at the side, walking about, but, sorry, this is a different
:15:54. > :16:00.area. This is good stuff. This one needs to stop, needs to bend. I'm
:16:01. > :16:06.afraid I think the world champion is just struggling here a little bit.
:16:07. > :16:12.He is going to lose a big count here. He's going to drop a four, no
:16:13. > :16:15.doubt about that. Potentially one end away from shaking hands. I can't
:16:16. > :16:22.remember the last time Nicky Brett lost a set to seven ends. He has
:16:23. > :16:29.been a wonderful world champion. It is good for the sport, really good
:16:30. > :16:33.for the sport, great domain -- he is good for the sport, great demeanour.
:16:34. > :16:55.We are writing him off a little bit in this match. Definite three.
:16:56. > :17:00.But the measure on the fourth, should have been an easy four but
:17:01. > :17:18.the damage was done in the first three. Three Green, measure the
:17:19. > :17:25.four. Looks like red. Slight favour from red, I think that is what Alan
:17:26. > :17:32.Thornhill said. He is more than pretty good when it comes to
:17:33. > :17:38.measures. Stewart Anderson won't be overly concerned that it is only
:17:39. > :17:52.three. A 10-1 lead is very, very healthy.
:17:53. > :18:06.10-1 after six ends. He struggled for a moment to remember that! Nicky
:18:07. > :18:48.Brett needs to score a minimum of two to move this into an eighth end.
:18:49. > :18:54.Nicky Brett said in his interview that Stewart Anderson has beaten him
:18:55. > :19:00.a couple of times before. You can see why. Yes, I think everybody is
:19:01. > :19:03.well aware of the capabilities of Stewart Anderson, once he gets that
:19:04. > :19:13.roaring going he is as difficult a person to beat of anybody, really.
:19:14. > :19:17.Today he has just been fantastic. I related in golfing terms, sometimes
:19:18. > :19:21.you shoot a 62 and the next day you don't tend to shoot such a good
:19:22. > :19:27.round, so he will be hoping he can keep his form because at the moment
:19:28. > :19:34.he just looks outstanding. 62, Andy. Next time you see a 62 will be on
:19:35. > :19:39.your birthday! It certainly won't be on the golf course, I can tell you!
:19:40. > :19:44.I am talking about the professionals! Stewart, stick to the
:19:45. > :20:00.draw, you don't need to do anything daft here. The gap is ten inches.
:20:01. > :20:05.Sticking to the draw. He is happy one down, probably even two down
:20:06. > :20:09.here. One down, he shakes hands. Earlier in the match he would have
:20:10. > :20:20.played that on the forehand, probably, but doesn't need to when
:20:21. > :20:34.you are playing like this. Nicky as usual wasting no time. Just his
:20:35. > :20:40.natural game to play very quickly. Again, just draw the Stewart. Yes,
:20:41. > :20:44.he is not chasing shots, he will be trying to close the end down,
:20:45. > :21:08.restrict Nicky to one, and that is good enough.
:21:09. > :21:21.Just dropping down a very close to the red ball. Nicky has to make a
:21:22. > :21:25.double, he knows that. He would dearly love to stretch it through to
:21:26. > :21:38.another end but even if he does he knows the writing is on the wall.
:21:39. > :21:45.Claire is biting her nails there but I think she is safe enough. I will
:21:46. > :21:49.be interested to hear Stewart Anderson's response to Rishi's
:21:50. > :21:58.questions but he could not have played any better. It has been a bit
:21:59. > :22:07.of front two bowls in particular exhibition, hasn't it? It is going
:22:08. > :22:10.to be high there, just the one. One shot, Nicky Brett. Second set and
:22:11. > :22:18.match, Stewart Anderson! APPLAUSE.
:22:19. > :22:22.Two ends to go but you can do nothing there except a broad Stewart
:22:23. > :22:27.Anderson. He played really, really well, exhibition stuff at times. On
:22:28. > :22:32.occasions it was just a different world and, my goodness me, he
:22:33. > :22:39.deserved to win that match, tenfive, 10-2. It is a good reflection on the
:22:40. > :22:42.game as well because he kept Nick Brett out of it with absolutely
:22:43. > :22:48.everything, Nick was playing weight shots almost from the first end. He
:22:49. > :22:55.will wander off and not be too disappointed because it just didn't
:22:56. > :23:04.happen today. I agree, Nicky Brett just didn't get on top of it, that
:23:05. > :23:07.was all. Well, these two players coming onto rink, Nicky Brett
:23:08. > :23:14.defending champion, world number one Stewart Anderson, number nine
:23:15. > :23:18.stowing how good he is on every shot, played three beautiful draws
:23:19. > :23:23.in that end and plucked that ball out for a treble. Nick Brett proving
:23:24. > :23:29.he can still play a really big bowl when it was needed. But he was under
:23:30. > :23:34.pressure from this man, those first two bowls end after end after end.
:23:35. > :23:39.And when the look is coming against you as well, Nick Brett finding
:23:40. > :23:46.holes where we didn't think they were there. But all the way, Stewart
:23:47. > :23:50.Anderson was playing great stuff and in the end he was just too
:23:51. > :23:56.consistent, but it was exhibition stuff. The first two bowls
:23:57. > :24:02.absolutely brilliant. Stewart Anderson, from Ayrshire, through to
:24:03. > :24:08.the semifinals. Ends one comfortable the Stewart Anderson. Total shots
:24:09. > :24:12.scored against the world champion, 20 shots to seven. What an
:24:13. > :24:18.exhibition that was, well done, Stewart.
:24:19. > :24:22.I have got Nicky and Stewart with me now. Nicky, is this one of those
:24:23. > :24:27.days where you put it down to, I have come up against an opponent in
:24:28. > :24:31.a rich vein of form? Stewart was great, got in early, I found myself
:24:32. > :24:36.chasing shots. Had a couple but didn't go my way, unlucky to get the
:24:37. > :24:39.gap here when I thought I had both bowls which would have kept me in,
:24:40. > :24:43.but Stewart played great. I would have liked to have played better
:24:44. > :24:47.myself but he didn't let me so fair play to him, he played really good.
:24:48. > :24:50.You have been a fantastic champion, well played over the last 12 months,
:24:51. > :24:55.and well done. APPLAUSE.
:24:56. > :24:59.Stewart, the guys in the commentary box were watching you and they were
:25:00. > :25:06.per ring about your played today, wondering, have you played better? I
:25:07. > :25:10.have been told I have never played better, that have answered that
:25:11. > :25:16.question! You have to play like that to beat Nicky and fortunately I did
:25:17. > :25:22.play like that. Can you put your finger on why you played so well
:25:23. > :25:27.today of all games? Darren gave me his bowl, that made the change! I
:25:28. > :25:33.thought I was playing ping-pong with the jack in the first, I'm just
:25:34. > :25:37.happy to get through. One of the other things they mentioned is when
:25:38. > :25:41.you play so well in one match you hope it keeps going because it is
:25:42. > :25:47.difficult to maintain such a high standard. Yes, it is, and
:25:48. > :25:54.fortunately now I will go read, if Nicky got a break it could have been
:25:55. > :25:58.the other way round. Well played, outstanding stuff
:25:59. > :26:03.today. We will take a look at how the quarterfinal draw has shaped up,
:26:04. > :26:06.two players through to the semis, Stewart Anderson and Greg Harlow,
:26:07. > :26:11.who will meet in the first of the semifinals. Meanwhile, we have still
:26:12. > :26:20.got Darren Burnett against Les Gillett later on tonight.
:26:21. > :26:25.Don't forget the Australian open tennis highlights follows us today
:26:26. > :26:30.on BBC Two from 5pm. And that match we were talking about between Darren
:26:31. > :26:36.Burnett and Les Gillett is available on the BBC sport website and the BBC
:26:37. > :26:42.Sport app from 7:30pm this evening. Time now to look ahead to our next
:26:43. > :26:46.match on BBC Two, the third of today's quarterfinals, and it is
:26:47. > :26:51.Paul Foster against Jamie Chestney, who saw of last year's runner-up
:26:52. > :26:55.Robert Paxton in the second round while Foster defeated David Wilfrid
:26:56. > :27:02.from New Zealand which means the four-time champion remains on target
:27:03. > :27:08.for another shot at Potters glory. Jamie is a great player, I watched
:27:09. > :27:15.the game against Robert. But it is the end result that counts. I know
:27:16. > :27:19.what I have got to do. It will be the same for Jamie. I'm happy with
:27:20. > :27:27.the way I am playing now. You always have a chance. I would like to win a
:27:28. > :27:31.fifth, amazing, but I will not put that pressure on myself. There are
:27:32. > :27:37.lots of guys who would love to win it once. I have been very fortunate
:27:38. > :27:41.to win it four times and if I never win it again, people cannot take
:27:42. > :27:45.away what I have done in the game. I still have the fire and hunger to
:27:46. > :27:51.win a fifth title, I feel I have got it in me, so as they say, what is
:27:52. > :27:55.meant to be will be, and whatever happens I always give 100% and if it
:27:56. > :28:00.is good enough today, brilliant, if not then OK. It has been an
:28:01. > :28:08.incredible journey for me, it has given me a great life and I still
:28:09. > :28:12.have fire in my belly. The amount of top players that cannot get into the
:28:13. > :28:16.top 16 and qualify is incredible and I would hate to try and qualify, and
:28:17. > :28:23.to be honest I don't think I would! I have had a great time over 20
:28:24. > :28:29.years, I have done everything in the game and I enjoy it, I love it.
:28:30. > :28:34.Great at Potters, the crowds are just fantastic. They all have their
:28:35. > :28:38.favourites who they want to win but they are always good to me as well
:28:39. > :28:45.and I thank them for that as well. I still love the game, and enjoy it
:28:46. > :28:50.and I still think I play well so I hope it did the news. My son Logan
:28:51. > :28:56.is eight today, the day of the quarterfinal, and Ethan, who is six,
:28:57. > :29:04.Keegan is three and Mara, the first girl in the family, she was born in
:29:05. > :29:10.August, so they all came to Perth to watch the final. I'm a big softy at
:29:11. > :29:16.when I lost in the final, my family was there. It is a lovely place down
:29:17. > :29:21.here and if the family managed to come down it is great, it relaxes
:29:22. > :29:25.you. I will do my best but at the end of the day if I don't win it I
:29:26. > :29:28.will always go home to my family. Paul Foster is established as one of
:29:29. > :29:31.the stars of the sport but his opponent Jamie Chestney is getting
:29:32. > :29:34.better with every passing season and he had to battle hard to come
:29:35. > :29:41.through his second round match against Robert Paxton.
:29:42. > :29:46.We both spoke about the game afterwards and both agreed it was
:29:47. > :29:50.never going to go on either of our highlight reels, whoever managed to
:29:51. > :29:54.get through. We both said whoever would we would take that and move
:29:55. > :29:58.forward and hopefully now I have a chance to improve in the next game.
:29:59. > :30:02.Rob is one of the toughest competitors you will play against,
:30:03. > :30:07.he will always come back at you. But I felt pretty good before the game,
:30:08. > :30:11.feel pretty good now with how things are going and mentally in a pretty
:30:12. > :30:16.good place, so hopefully just keep fighting all the way. I know what is
:30:17. > :30:23.going to come from Paul and it is going to be top so I know I have to
:30:24. > :30:26.play at that level to be able to compete with him, so there is not an
:30:27. > :30:30.awful lot I can do to affect what he is going to do, I can only control
:30:31. > :30:34.what I do and I've just got to prepare the best I can and give
:30:35. > :30:38.myself the best shot when I'm playing. We are playing for the
:30:39. > :30:44.world title so it will be a bit tense, but great to see Charlie
:30:45. > :30:48.there with a smile on his face, I thought that was fantastic for the
:30:49. > :30:53.sport, what a great story that was. It reminds us all that although we
:30:54. > :31:01.are fighting for a world title, the game is still there to go out and
:31:02. > :31:09.I am glad to say that Robert Paxto has joined me and will be
:31:10. > :31:14.commentating on the match. You can give us the lowdown on what it is
:31:15. > :31:18.like to face Chestney having got up close and personal, sadly on the
:31:19. > :31:22.receiving end, in the last 16 match. Yes, Jamie is a quality player, he
:31:23. > :31:26.has been around for years and only recently played to get through onto
:31:27. > :31:31.the tour. He has broken through last year and got to the final already so
:31:32. > :31:35.little player, everyone knows how good he is and he can compete with
:31:36. > :31:39.the best. Why is it he has suddenly made the breakthrough in the last
:31:40. > :31:42.couple of years because he has been through a while? It seems when
:31:43. > :31:46.players have a good result, one result and maybe a couple of games
:31:47. > :31:50.and they get a run together, it seems to give them a confidence in
:31:51. > :31:54.their belief they can compete with the best. Definitely, Jamie never
:31:55. > :31:58.used to play these games, he gave it a go and got through in everything.
:31:59. > :32:03.And he has performed on the carpet and so he has found it, yes changed
:32:04. > :32:08.bowls and he has gelled with it and he is dangerous. Talk to me about
:32:09. > :32:13.his opponent, Paul Foster, his stature in the sport is as good as
:32:14. > :32:18.it is, Alex Marshall winning a couple more titles but he is right
:32:19. > :32:21.up there amongst the best of the current players. You don't have to
:32:22. > :32:26.say anything, everyone knows how good he is. He's dangerous and on
:32:27. > :32:29.fire, you are in serious trouble. Jamie has the compete, hold him
:32:30. > :32:33.tight, we should be in for a cracking game this afternoon. The

:33:06. > :33:14.I'm going to put you on the spot, who will come out on top? On the

:35:29. > :35:32.he is full of confidence. APPLAUSE. Paul Foster played really
:35:33. > :35:50.well in the Mixed Pairs. We have not really seen the best of

:38:05. > :38:10.It is a good bowl and he had no choice but to draw it but Paul
:38:11. > :38:15.Foster will be looking for a double, not easy to draw within a foot, but

:38:20. > :38:25.quickly, there is no hesitation on the mat, bowls away, less than two
:38:26. > :38:32.microseconds with both players. Neither player will test the shot
:38:33. > :38:35.clock much today. Certainly reaching and giving it a chance. Just over
:38:36. > :39:11.the line. It was good. This is always a difficult match for
:39:12. > :39:20.players coming in in the second game. They have only got two trial
:39:21. > :39:24.ends, they need to practise. And then they are up and running. In the
:39:25. > :39:28.meantime, the crowd is dispersed in little bit and they will be coming
:39:29. > :39:44.back over the next half an hour. So there could be some pauses in play.
:39:45. > :39:57.That is a good reply. Really good reply. I think Jamie is the only
:39:58. > :40:06.player that has really played beforehand this way. Certainly the
:40:07. > :40:12.case in the men's game. It is a nice steady hand, both players using the
:40:13. > :40:46.seamer bowl, so strong bias, so no advantage there.
:40:47. > :40:54.Really good again, Jamie, a touch on the key, it drops away. If it had
:40:55. > :40:56.been in front, it would have been a real help for Paul Foster, it
:40:57. > :41:02.doesn't make a difference the way it is sitting at the moment. It has to
:41:03. > :41:07.have a very good weight to pull away from that line. Here it comes. That
:41:08. > :41:14.shoulder just needed to be a little bit shorter. Still one red. If it
:41:15. > :41:27.had been a bowl shorter, that last bowl would have been the shot.
:41:28. > :41:40.Testing for Paul Foster here. He certainly has got a chance early on.
:41:41. > :41:44.He has, he has got that bowl to play and he has that one to play to get
:41:45. > :41:49.the red out and he might get the two, it depends if he wants to play
:41:50. > :41:54.early on a weight shot. Certainly whether arriving at it. Narrow line,
:41:55. > :42:01.very controlled weight, that is what he is looking for, hard to get back.
:42:02. > :42:09.Yes. Jamie Chestney started to walk as soon as that bowl was pushed out
:42:10. > :42:15.on a line. They have to do that because of the shot clock. In normal
:42:16. > :42:19.play, they wait until that bowl finishes before it gets behind the
:42:20. > :42:26.jack. That is the normal etiquette. Because of the shot clock, players
:42:27. > :42:33.have to start walking down to get it in 30 seconds. I thought this might
:42:34. > :42:37.happen during this match, it was always going to be movement, the
:42:38. > :42:48.shot clock stopped at 16 seconds. Cannot be avoided. Well, it doesn't
:42:49. > :42:54.look... He doesn't look terribly happy with that, he pushed through
:42:55. > :42:59.it. You have to be very disciplined to deal with disturbances. You
:43:00. > :43:15.cannot allow that to affect you. It is just because it is so quiet in
:43:16. > :43:20.here during the game, any slight noise or movement can catch the eye
:43:21. > :43:24.of the players. We would all prefer it if there was music going, noise
:43:25. > :43:33.throughout, so there would not be any disturbance. Certainly, it is
:43:34. > :43:38.the norm in international play. There is a lot of noise, a lot of
:43:39. > :43:40.people moving, people shouting beside you and you still on and play
:43:41. > :44:34.your bowl. APPLAUSE.
:44:35. > :45:19.Two green. Well, no mistake with Paul Foster.
:45:20. > :45:25.Anything behind the jack would be very useful at this point. I can't
:45:26. > :45:33.imagine Jamie playing weight to this. This looks like a draw. Not
:45:34. > :45:44.bad with this. He needs to rest it. Still pretty good. Gets himself in a
:45:45. > :45:50.bit of trouble here. It is going to be close to get in second. He has to
:45:51. > :45:52.aim for second shot really. The hit shot is very speculative, so it is
:45:53. > :46:09.just not worth it. Giving this a good effort. Is there
:46:10. > :46:20.any drop? Good enough. Good enough for second. Paul Foster will be
:46:21. > :46:25.after it, though. You would be very unlucky to give the shot away, so no
:46:26. > :46:32.reason not to arrive at this with enough weight to punch it out.
:46:33. > :46:46.Has he overplayed it? I think he has. Very definitely going for the
:46:47. > :46:58.bowl he knew had a chance of picking up a four, but it was always on the
:46:59. > :47:51.high side. Jamie got away with one really that end.
:47:52. > :48:40.It is a decent second. Still got the red bowl, though.
:48:41. > :48:46.That is not in, Paul Foster. No need to change if he doesn't want to,
:48:47. > :49:04.still on the backhand. He needs to get back. Just holding
:49:05. > :49:13.out there! Just over the top. But weight. -- but wait. Just a small
:49:14. > :49:36.adjustments needed to put a little bit of pressure on Paul.
:49:37. > :49:48.Just about all over that, I think. Paul has got a nice little shot now.
:49:49. > :49:54.A slight turn on the jack round the corner for a three. Yes, and no
:49:55. > :50:01.damage to be done if he misses it. Just a matter of getting back with
:50:02. > :50:06.this one. He is interested. He has just left it. Yes, he hasn't sent it
:50:07. > :50:08.through, so easy to drop short on that forehand, we have seen it many
:50:09. > :50:33.times. That is what is called a very
:50:34. > :50:45.careful draw, very much on the wide side of the jack. That was a good
:50:46. > :50:49.effort. We have got a lot of correspondence coming through during
:50:50. > :50:53.the World Championships. And just occasionally, you get a letter to
:50:54. > :51:01.remind you of times gone by, Robert. I got a delightful letter yesterday
:51:02. > :51:06.from a lady, Pat, I hope you are watching, Pat. Yes, it was a great
:51:07. > :51:09.time in 1984 when I was playing against your husband's team in
:51:10. > :51:16.Botswana, and we were up in Aberdeen at the time. Lovely memory from days
:51:17. > :51:26.gone past. Really nice to hear things like that. A few years ago
:51:27. > :51:39.now, then! I was a boy! Taken out of school for that! Three weeks in
:51:40. > :52:18.Aberdeen. It did rain, on occasions! Beautiful city.
:52:19. > :52:38.Paul Foster has really seen what can be done with the first two bowls,
:52:39. > :52:42.having watched Stewart Anderson in a previous game. But he knows all
:52:43. > :52:48.about it anyway, four times World Champion. As this game progresses,
:52:49. > :52:51.what he will be hoping to be doing is to put Jamie under pressure so he
:52:52. > :52:58.has to play the hard shots, the difficult ones. A bit like Nicky,
:52:59. > :53:02.Jamie will go early as well so if Paul does start to build, Jamie
:53:03. > :53:14.certainly will not be afraid to go. This is good. The draw is still on
:53:15. > :53:18.the turn it round the corner. The problem with the running bowl is if
:53:19. > :53:29.he is slightly off target, he takes his own out, so he has to be
:53:30. > :53:34.careful. That is a good effort. Disturbance bowl out. Great shot.
:53:35. > :53:42.Really good, I am not sure if it is the shot. One of green and red just
:53:43. > :53:44.falls back in again, but goodness me, he played that well. Very
:53:45. > :54:02.controlled. Just a draw for Jamie if he can lift
:54:03. > :54:13.his front red and turn onto the jack. He is going firm for the bowl.
:54:14. > :54:19.It will kick across very quickly. Yes, there it goes. He knows these
:54:20. > :54:24.shots, but really, I was saying Paul Foster means to force Jamie Chestney
:54:25. > :54:51.into playing. Difficult running bowls.
:54:52. > :55:05.He is trying again. Just needs to hurry, not going to make it.
:55:06. > :55:12.It is all gentle stuff at the moment. Yes, both guys feeling their
:55:13. > :55:25.way into the match at the moment. A lot of steak, obviously. -- a lot is
:55:26. > :55:26.at stake, obviously. They are wasting no time, about five minutes
:55:27. > :55:52.each end. Jamie is certainly one of the
:55:53. > :55:54.quickest players I know on the. I would say Paul is not far behind
:55:55. > :56:40.either really. Paul down the backhand searching for
:56:41. > :56:44.a new line, the first one surprised in, I think, by holding off. Did not
:56:45. > :56:55.have the weight, the wait was perfect for that. Jamie playing the
:56:56. > :57:01.other side of the rink. -- the weight was perfect.
:57:02. > :57:32.That is good here. Yes, good all the way.
:57:33. > :57:41.That is another short bowl by Paul Foster, he is not going to make his
:57:42. > :57:45.life any easier from the last bowl if Jamie gets this in. If he gets
:57:46. > :57:54.this on top, he could be almost close. It is not bad. A little
:57:55. > :58:00.straightener of his own. He might be tempted to move that position. Very
:58:01. > :58:12.hard to go in close so he might be tempted to have a rattle at this.
:58:13. > :58:17.Very little on the angles really. We will see what we can have a look at
:58:18. > :58:22.here. I suppose getting into the red bowl would be good, there is a
:58:23. > :58:26.chance of getting the jack over onto the respot position in this
:58:27. > :58:31.direction, that would be damage limitation. If he gets into that
:58:32. > :58:35.bowl and pushes the jack all the way through to get there, again, it is
:58:36. > :58:40.not bad. Not great connections, I think this could be big, really big.
:58:41. > :58:45.If he plays at the forehand, he will be going big. There are two places
:58:46. > :58:49.that the jack could go that I can see. I don't think it will go
:58:50. > :58:58.anywhere else. This is going to be big. He missed it. Yes, I could see
:58:59. > :59:02.by Paul's reaction, I did not even need to see the bowl. I would love
:59:03. > :59:09.him to have hit it, just to see where it is going. Jamie didn't!
:59:10. > :59:14.Jamie is very happy the way it is! If his wife Natalie is watching
:59:15. > :59:24.this, I'm sure she will be delighted as well! Paul Foster is a very fast
:59:25. > :59:31.driver and he knew he had to take bowls off the rink but only two
:59:32. > :59:38.areas the jack was going to go and no guarantee of scoring the shot, so
:59:39. > :59:45.he went very hard. Very good bowls by Jamie Chestney. Playing four
:59:46. > :00:26.bowls like that. Well, when you pick four shots in
:00:27. > :00:30.the middle of a set in a tight game, it usually gives the impetus to go
:00:31. > :00:41.on and win the set. But there are three ends to go. Three shots in it.
:00:42. > :01:36.And Paul Foster just hasn't found his true form yet.
:01:37. > :01:50.Paul will be thinking to himself "I really need to move up a gear or
:01:51. > :01:54.two", you.can't let Jamie steer him into the jack, to play the weight
:01:55. > :01:57.shots. Well, another mistake here from
:01:58. > :02:02.Jamie. Now there's a chance. Drop around or
:02:03. > :02:12.push it in. It would be better to come around
:02:13. > :02:18.it. It's just having that confidence to
:02:19. > :02:23.push the ball out wide. It's good enough, Robert but still
:02:24. > :02:27.beatable. He could be in heaps of trouble
:02:28. > :02:41.after the last end. Four up.
:02:42. > :02:52.He's still got some running to do. Oh, this is dropping short. Wow!
:02:53. > :02:57.This is one of those poor ends that you throw in and it's not the time
:02:58. > :03:01.to do it on end seven. You could say the same with the last end with Paul
:03:02. > :03:09.Foster. The last end, Jamie had the four
:03:10. > :03:19.good balls in. Paul is picking up a scrappy three here. He just needs to
:03:20. > :03:23.break past the first ball and he'll be good enough for the treble. Well,
:03:24. > :03:28.from his point of view it's a great three.
:03:29. > :03:31.To get three of the four back again, he'll be very, very happy. That Less
:03:32. > :03:51.the scores with two ends to go. Well, most of the crowd are
:03:52. > :03:56.ensconsed on to the seats now. Very few disturbances for the players
:03:57. > :04:06.after an exciting last game. Not for Nick Brett but for the quality of
:04:07. > :04:10.Stewart Anderson. COMMENTATOR: Jack length
:04:11. > :04:22.?, 25.5 metres. A very fast game. This one is not
:04:23. > :04:35.only slower in terms of pace but... That's better.
:04:36. > :04:45.Paul Foster going for his traditional jack length.
:04:46. > :04:52.It makes no difference to Jamie, though. He's all over it.
:04:53. > :04:57.He's on this forehand at the moment. If he could pick it up and go the
:04:58. > :04:59.other way with it, I think he would. It's a struggle the other way at the
:05:00. > :05:48.moment. He's gone early. He's got a lot of
:05:49. > :05:57.work to do. Yep. Very close. Just on the wrong
:05:58. > :06:01.side of the jack. Another repeat for Jamie here.
:06:02. > :06:11.Well, it's a strange old thing, isn't it? High scores bouncing about
:06:12. > :06:18.the place. Threes and fours. Jamie deciding better to go deep, rather
:06:19. > :06:22.than than into the last end, two up. I really wouldn't be surprised if
:06:23. > :06:27.Paul Foster tries to draw this. There's no guarantee if he takes the
:06:28. > :06:34.two ball, what's going to happen. Although it would be damage
:06:35. > :06:39.limitation. He would be lying the shot of shot if the two balls
:06:40. > :06:44.disappear. But if he can draw this shot. Well, he's going again. Trying
:06:45. > :06:51.to take one away. Oh, connections... He's in the area.
:06:52. > :06:58.He was on the right side of the jack that time. He wanted to bowl on to
:06:59. > :07:05.bowl. He didn't really want the jack but to dip under for the gap. Now,
:07:06. > :07:12.if this is a three, that's a major pull-back.
:07:13. > :07:16.There it is. . Oh, he's played it well.
:07:17. > :07:25.He played that very well as he pushed it out on the wide line.
:07:26. > :07:30.The good old high line drift shot. If it comes back, well and good.
:07:31. > :07:34.Goodness me. A four and then three against you
:07:35. > :07:39.and then a free for you. The way it's going, you probably
:07:40. > :07:41.wouldn't put it past Paul taking the set, the way that the last three
:07:42. > :07:53.ends have gone. COMMENTATOR: Jack length
:07:54. > :08:40.?, 25 metres. If Paul can find this first one, you
:08:41. > :08:46.never know. That's pretty good.
:08:47. > :08:50.Paul's target is to try to get something close enough to give him a
:08:51. > :09:06.chance. At the very least, to pick up a three.
:09:07. > :09:18.Well, this really should be number two coming in.
:09:19. > :09:35.Don't think he should be too concerned about the number one shot
:09:36. > :09:38.but he will want to be in for the second.
:09:39. > :09:45.It's a wider line. This is better.
:09:46. > :09:52.There it goes. If it drops and it has... Paul
:09:53. > :09:56.Foster will have to reach out on the forehand, probably, and move the
:09:57. > :10:02.jack. Well, if it's a millimetre, that's
:10:03. > :10:07.close enough to spring across. You can still play the backhand to pick
:10:08. > :10:20.the jack up. But it's the lesser of the two targets. I think it is wise
:10:21. > :10:23.to look at this. COMMENTATOR: Timeout call
:10:24. > :10:35.?. Paul has three timeouts remaining.
:10:36. > :10:39.What he is looking for is to replace the forehand.
:10:40. > :10:43.It could reposition the jack and that would do lovely.
:10:44. > :10:48.Yes, I think that the forehand, if he gets a bit of the jack, he keeps
:10:49. > :10:53.taking it from the green bowls. He can dot same on the backhand.
:10:54. > :10:58.Drag the jack on the backhand, possibly get the bowl off clean. But
:10:59. > :11:03.it looks under to me. Yep. Under the line. That was the right shot, the
:11:04. > :11:08.right weight of shot. He punched the ball out.
:11:09. > :11:38.The jack move, it is still in a good position.
:11:39. > :11:45.Well, it's still there. It's is just tricky to judge it to
:11:46. > :11:50.come over around the short bowls and punch the ball out. Moving the jack.
:11:51. > :12:03.It's just not enough. He has to follow through with it.
:12:04. > :12:12.A different type of shot this time. That's outside of the line. He knows
:12:13. > :12:17.it. Chester-le-Street was putting Paul
:12:18. > :12:21.Foster under pressure with the first couple of bowls in some of those
:12:22. > :12:38.ends. He takes the first set. 10-6.
:12:39. > :12:43.Not much to choose from there. There has been some juggling with the
:12:44. > :13:16.length. Certainly a game of two direction,
:13:17. > :13:21.really. Jamie is dominating it this way, whilst it's Paul the other in
:13:22. > :14:24.the last few ends. Here we go again.
:14:25. > :14:31.Paul going again. It's on the wide side.
:14:32. > :14:35.The third end running this direction. Paul's in a lot of
:14:36. > :14:49.trouble. Yes, by his own standards he knows
:14:50. > :14:50.he's well off his best game. Jamie may look nonchalant but he
:14:51. > :15:09.knows just how important this is. Good again. Really good.
:15:10. > :15:22.Paul Foster really needs to get a close one.
:15:23. > :15:27.He's giving it a good look. No, he's in trouble. He really is.
:15:28. > :15:28.Jamie Chestney has a chance here again.
:15:29. > :15:51.No reason to go deep on this one. Has he let Paul off? Well, he would
:15:52. > :16:09.have backed himself to draw another shot there.
:16:10. > :16:13.It's a spare shot, really. The only thing I would have been
:16:14. > :16:15.concerned about there is going too long rather than too short.
:16:16. > :16:37.He could well afford to reach it. No reaction from Paul yet. He nose
:16:38. > :17:09.there's a long way to go. Jamie obviously has a sniff that
:17:10. > :17:16.Paul's not quite on his game. So he's going to make a quick run and
:17:17. > :17:20.try to get the next couple of ends on his scorecard.
:17:21. > :17:33.He'll be looking for a lot more of those.
:17:34. > :17:41.Jamie hoping this one's not as far away as he thinks.
:17:42. > :17:57.He knew that was heavy. Still, it's in a good place.
:17:58. > :18:04.That's more like the Paul Foster that we know.
:18:05. > :18:08.He'll be quick at this down the four.
:18:09. > :18:15.It's a tempting proposition. The jack is clear to go through into the
:18:16. > :18:19.ditch. Two bowls will go. Pretty good... Yep.
:18:20. > :18:43.Always good. Let's see how much this holds up. I
:18:44. > :18:47.think he's on the narrow side. I thought he would have still played
:18:48. > :18:56.that on the forehand. It's good enough for the shot but very
:18:57. > :19:05.beetable. -- beatable.
:19:06. > :19:21.Close. Maybe get a bonus touch? It's a good
:19:22. > :19:28.one. I'd be tempted with a bowl here. The
:19:29. > :19:37.jack in the ditches is worth two. Don't know about the re-spot.
:19:38. > :19:45.Normally it would be to draw it. It has to be close to taking it out.
:19:46. > :19:53.And green it is. Good bowl. That is the option he would have played. He
:19:54. > :20:04.would have known that. A good percentage shot.
:20:05. > :20:12.Now he could be tempted to go full length. I'm not convinced that the
:20:13. > :20:29.short length is doing him any favours. He's brought the mat up.
:20:30. > :20:36.This is the length Jamie's been playing in his previous rounds, 26
:20:37. > :20:40.metres. Paul immediately on to the forehand.
:20:41. > :20:50.Definitely looking to mix things up a bit. Good thinking.
:20:51. > :20:55.Maybe force Jamie on to the backhand. Nope. He's sticking with
:20:56. > :21:53.the forehand. He's confident on this side.
:21:54. > :22:03.Couldn't follow it up. Well, Foster feels that there's not
:22:04. > :22:09.enough room now. There probably is. But he has to
:22:10. > :22:14.skirt closely to the front red one to get at the shot ball.
:22:15. > :22:25.There's no point in taking that risk. He's close.
:22:26. > :22:35.Good bowl. Look at the plant as well. He might
:22:36. > :22:39.be tempted to remove the bowl down the fork. I think he is.
:22:40. > :22:47.The second option is a front plant to do damage.
:22:48. > :22:50.How many times do we see balls go through gaps like that? Any
:22:51. > :23:06.connection would have been good. I think pall's just got to draw
:23:07. > :23:27.another one in. Good coffer.
:23:28. > :23:46.I don't think Jamie will change the shot.
:23:47. > :23:48.Ver. I don't think Jamie will change the
:23:49. > :23:55.shot. He's certainly interested. Oh, he
:23:56. > :23:59.hasn't again?! What do you say?! He used less weight with that one, so
:24:00. > :24:00.you would think it would have drifted a little bit.
:24:01. > :24:53.Clumsy. Paul's really trying to find a
:24:54. > :24:58.length he can get consistent bowls in. Not worry about what Jamie's
:24:59. > :25:03.playing. The key thing was winning the last
:25:04. > :25:14.end, really. I think that's the first time he's won an end coming
:25:15. > :25:18.back to the box. Jamie's been all over that forehand.
:25:19. > :25:22.He's got himself into the second set now.
:25:23. > :25:37.Well, he's having to move. Will make a big effort to get back
:25:38. > :25:37.from that height if it has the running.
:25:38. > :26:15.Close. Still one green. That forehand's not
:26:16. > :26:20.looking good now. . Another change for Foster.
:26:21. > :26:25.Anything behind the jack is good. He's giving this a good chance. A
:26:26. > :26:28.clear run is really good. Well, I don't think there will be
:26:29. > :26:37.any discussion about this one. I think it will be a typical
:26:38. > :26:44.forehand runner. He doesn't look happy. It means he's
:26:45. > :26:49.got his own bowl. Nope. He took the second shot out. That's not bad, you
:26:50. > :26:51.know. You get a bowl down, you get oil value out of it if you take one
:26:52. > :27:23.away. He's aware of the fact he has
:27:24. > :27:27.nothing behind the jack. But needs another bowl.
:27:28. > :27:32.I can't imagine a change in Jamie's shot. Straight through. Bowl on
:27:33. > :27:45.jack. Clean through for the jack himself? Oh, he's under.
:27:46. > :27:50.Yep, a big slap to the leg. I think he decided to go even more weight
:27:51. > :27:56.that time and just pulled it. It didn't need the weight. The jack
:27:57. > :28:10.shoots so quickly. But sometimes the players try to go too fast.
:28:11. > :28:25.Paul Foster is still think being what length he wants to play this
:28:26. > :28:30.jack. That's most unusual for Paul. Are He's brought the mat up again a
:28:31. > :28:41.couple of metres. This is a sort of a champion's
:28:42. > :28:47.scratch-how-to-win-type of matches, isn't it? Yes. It's what a lot of
:28:48. > :28:57.the top players like Paul do, the amount of games that they get
:28:58. > :28:59.through by just nicking... Enough ends and getting through anyway,
:29:00. > :29:04.ugly. Absolutely. It's what I call it as
:29:05. > :29:12.well. Ugly but don't worry about playing a
:29:13. > :29:17.pretty match and then losing. I was talking to Paul when Stewart
:29:18. > :29:23.Anderson was finishing off. I said you don't want to hit form too early
:29:24. > :29:27.in the tournaments but to scrape your way through. Once you find your
:29:28. > :29:33.game, sometimes it can be hard to carry it on.
:29:34. > :29:38.You could say that Greg Harlow played well. But he came through
:29:39. > :29:45.well in the last bowl in the last two matches. The previous one was a
:29:46. > :29:49.fantastic ball. But how many times would you get the result from the
:29:50. > :29:56.way it was played? And how many times would he hit it to the perfect
:29:57. > :30:05.millimetre? I think David Gourlay is watching at the moment, so we'll not
:30:06. > :30:43.mention the last, last bowl! Oh, Jamie, how did that get away?
:30:44. > :30:56.I am a little bit surprised. So am I. Not sure about that particular
:30:57. > :31:30.shot. He has got another one to recover.
:31:31. > :31:43.Well, that is a good bowl round the back. I can't imagine him going
:31:44. > :31:45.again, can you? I thought so. If it is only a two, he might have a go at
:31:46. > :32:01.it. Well, he is just going to get a
:32:02. > :32:15.single. The jack will be on the respot position. Produced from 2-1.
:32:16. > :32:19.That is where the unpredictability of Jamie Chestney comes into play.
:32:20. > :32:33.Just not quite sure what he is going to do. It makes in a very dangerous
:32:34. > :32:42.opponent. You get to this sort of level, there has to be a degree of
:32:43. > :32:46.discipline. Jamie Chestney is usually an attacking player and does
:32:47. > :32:51.play a lot of runners but he is usually reasonably sensible with
:32:52. > :33:07.them. That one wasn't so sure that it was the right shot. He did OK.
:33:08. > :33:09.The reduced from two to one. He will be very happy that Jamie has been
:33:10. > :33:37.pushed into playing with shots. That is good. Still on the forehand.
:33:38. > :33:50.Still split the bones, turn the jack.
:33:51. > :34:20.He has given this a chance. More of a chance. Yes, shot bowl.
:34:21. > :34:26.He needs to tap his green bowl down without the red one for them. They
:34:27. > :34:41.read decided to follow as well. Should still be one to read. Having
:34:42. > :34:46.a good look at this. That doesn't change Jamie Chestney's shot. He is
:34:47. > :34:52.trying to reach his own. If he misses and gets the green one, that
:34:53. > :34:59.is even better. He needs to agree with this one. Just not there. It is
:35:00. > :35:06.not going to help Paul Foster. It is as good a shot is a need to turn the
:35:07. > :35:19.green bowl over. -- as good a shot as Arnie. It could be enough. It
:35:20. > :35:33.will take a little shuffle on the carpet. He is pushing it up. He is
:35:34. > :35:41.not there. Perfect line. The weight is lacking. Jamie reaches of the
:35:42. > :35:47.green bowl and just nudges it and drops in, you could make the double.
:35:48. > :35:49.It was 11 -- level things off with three games to go. He would be
:35:50. > :36:04.delighted with that. Even that little touch might be
:36:05. > :36:27.enough. Out with the calipers. The exact way
:36:28. > :36:33.to do this is have one end of the calibre just down toward the carpet
:36:34. > :36:48.and then just bring the calipers through the gap. It is well in. Not
:36:49. > :37:01.even that close. I think that little knowledge between the last ball just
:37:02. > :37:08.give it the extra millimetre. It is a strange old game, it hasn't really
:37:09. > :37:13.taken off. At the same time, there has been some quality stuff. Both
:37:14. > :37:19.players have been forced into playing difficult shots and that
:37:20. > :37:24.upsets the rhythm of the game. They have both been in bad situations,
:37:25. > :37:25.being forced into the little runners. The best connection isn't
:37:26. > :38:29.always available. Just sliding. It has got enough of
:38:30. > :38:38.it. It will drop away. One green. Paul Foster can afford to reach his
:38:39. > :38:53.own ball. A draw through the split with the IDs, into the gap. -- would
:38:54. > :39:06.be ideal. Jamie could be tempted by this. That is a pretty good bowl
:39:07. > :39:12.Jamie will go for. Not sure. He is under. I don't think he will make a
:39:13. > :39:17.connection. Very thin edge on the front bowl. Doesn't really matter.
:39:18. > :39:23.Stays in the head. We are talking about two feet around the jack. It
:39:24. > :39:28.can be a useful bowl still to have hanging about there. A chance for
:39:29. > :39:37.Paul Foster. He is starting to build the pressure up here. He once a
:39:38. > :39:43.connection. That is a lot better. It really is. There is a lot more room,
:39:44. > :39:52.no doubt about that, but it is better. It is not the easiest draw
:39:53. > :40:00.therefore Jamie. He will have to turnover, I would think. He is and
:40:01. > :40:04.he only has one ball left to do this. It is very important. If he
:40:05. > :40:16.misses as he is in a heap of trouble. He has got to draw second.
:40:17. > :40:21.He might look at damage limitation. Two balls out, I hope he doesn't get
:40:22. > :40:30.a gap. I don't know. The back and is there if he touches his own ball. --
:40:31. > :40:37.backhand. It is the right shot, it really is the right shot. It is all
:40:38. > :40:43.about whether he has the right weight. He is close with this. Paul
:40:44. > :40:49.Foster started to come back. Like me he thought that was a lot closer. It
:40:50. > :40:54.is still three. He will say to Jimmy on the way past, he might have a
:40:55. > :40:59.word with them. When you see the opposition patting your leg, you
:41:00. > :41:03.know you are close. Paul Foster started to club. I thought he was
:41:04. > :41:19.right in on it. It just slowed down. A big chance for Paul Foster on end
:41:20. > :41:25.seven. I would have done the same. He has dropped it as well. Something
:41:26. > :41:32.strange there. Those two bones would usually be up to the head. Three
:41:33. > :41:38.shots, that gives Paul Foster a tidy little lead with two ends to go.
:41:39. > :41:45.Trying very, very hard to get a single shot here and move into a
:41:46. > :41:52.tie-break. Which, of course, we all enjoy. Especially the spectators. We
:41:53. > :42:03.love it up here as well. There is a bit of tension. He has gone
:42:04. > :42:13.extremely short, this time, Paul. That is the minimum. He is not sure
:42:14. > :42:20.about this one. It is not a bad opener. That is a deliberate tactic
:42:21. > :42:25.from Paul Foster, he is four shots up and he knows if he is in trouble
:42:26. > :42:30.he can drive his way out of it. We still have another end after this.
:42:31. > :42:49.He is usually very good on the short jacks.
:42:50. > :43:22.This is better. Just sliding away. Paul Foster knows that at some stage
:43:23. > :43:28.Jamie Chestney will have to run that jack through. He probably needs
:43:29. > :43:37.another one in the head. He will look to close this down. It is good.
:43:38. > :43:50.Just need to hang on the line a little better. That is beautiful. It
:43:51. > :44:02.really is. Jamie could do worse than to red this. -- hit this. That is a
:44:03. > :44:09.bad result. That doesn't help, to be fair. Turkey 's own backbone of.
:44:10. > :44:15.That was the problem. It just hit the sideboard. You could hear it.
:44:16. > :44:19.That is a big, big problem. I thought he would drive it with at
:44:20. > :44:24.the back and, I was surprised he went with the forehand. He was
:44:25. > :44:32.probably just trying to see this end of. There is no back position to
:44:33. > :44:37.worry about. Happy enough to live a couple. Just had one a metre or so
:44:38. > :44:43.behind the jack. That would be useful. That is not bad. Just in
:44:44. > :44:49.case Jamie tries to drive and is a bit heavy. Touches the jack. A good
:44:50. > :45:01.receiver. It is a set live at the moment. He is going for the two
:45:02. > :45:14.bowls here, but it will have to be on the backhand. He is on the
:45:15. > :45:18.inside. I certainly expected him to hit it at that distance. Paul Foster
:45:19. > :45:25.takes the double and takes the second set. Certainly played a lot
:45:26. > :45:28.better in that set. You could Jamie under a lot more pressure to play
:45:29. > :45:42.the winning balls. Especially with weight. Paul dug deep in that second
:45:43. > :45:48.set, dragged himself back into it. So, toss of the coin. Jamie decides
:45:49. > :45:55.I will give the jack away to Paul Foster. Paul Foster will have the
:45:56. > :45:57.choice as to who gets the jack in the next end. Most players prefer to
:45:58. > :46:50.have the last bowls. So, 3p in the tie-break. You just
:46:51. > :46:57.have to win the end, it doesn't matter by how much. It is usually
:46:58. > :47:03.quite an aggressive, attacking type of shot that is required in this.
:47:04. > :47:10.These two players will certainly be doing that. Jamie has certainly lost
:47:11. > :47:29.his weight now the past few ends. Stop short again. Very quickly at
:47:30. > :47:33.this end. The jack coming down here, I am surprised at that. Paul
:47:34. > :47:42.probably reckoned that was a lot closer. I think he is going for the
:47:43. > :47:51.jack. Really? I think you are getting excited. I wouldn't put it
:47:52. > :48:04.past him. I wouldn't either but there is enough room to draft. Well,
:48:05. > :48:18.just dropped. Interesting. Paul is staying with the forehand. He is
:48:19. > :48:23.short. Goodness. It is one red. I thought he might have been tempted
:48:24. > :48:28.by that himself. His own ball is hidden, if he gets around it, which
:48:29. > :48:30.is the advantage. Jamie needs one in, so it will be the backhand for
:48:31. > :48:48.him. Really good. Runs a touch. It needs to. See how
:48:49. > :48:53.it runs up, you probably reckoned that was close. It is just down to
:48:54. > :49:00.the last yard in particular. Paul Foster will draw this with a
:49:01. > :49:09.forehand now. He has two. Only touch on his own opponent will be enough.
:49:10. > :49:13.Backhand against. It is brave, because he has two push the boat out
:49:14. > :49:24.very wide to get around the short ones. It stops so quickly. He is not
:49:25. > :49:29.far away. Great shot. I tell you what, when that left his hand, if
:49:30. > :49:37.you look at his face, he wasn't sure. He really wasn't sure about
:49:38. > :49:42.that. That is a real problem now for Jamie Chestney, because it is right,
:49:43. > :49:53.take in behind it. I am not sure if he can get an angle of the win. I
:49:54. > :50:00.think he has got the angle to get onto the jack or the other green
:50:01. > :50:07.one. That is the ideal, bowls to bowls. That leaves the jack behind.
:50:08. > :50:17.We could have a rebounding jack. He got it too solid. That was what was
:50:18. > :50:24.in his mind, to come off the outside bowl. Paul Foster takes the first
:50:25. > :50:26.end. He didn't have the last ball to play. Now he will have the last
:50:27. > :50:42.ball. Advantage to Foster. Jamie Chestney has really been
:50:43. > :50:48.struggling to score. He scored on the first end of the second, then on
:50:49. > :50:49.the sixth, when he got a single. Other than that it has Paul Foster
:50:50. > :52:04.all the way. Closer with this. He has got the
:52:05. > :52:31.gap. The jack would have been a lot worse for that red.
:52:32. > :52:42.Take against the red. Not easy for Paul down there now. He just has to
:52:43. > :53:04.go, I think. Well, you sort of know what Paul
:53:05. > :53:09.Foster will play, no doubt about that. He will be crunching into the
:53:10. > :53:16.bowl on the jack. You are always trying to think two bowls ahead.
:53:17. > :53:24.Jamie might look for the respot. I think he needs to run for cover on
:53:25. > :53:28.this. He can't go anywhere near it. Sometimes you cant make a position
:53:29. > :53:34.and a better and Paul Foster needs to run the ball onto the jack and
:53:35. > :53:41.how to squeeze across to his own. It looks like you can possibly see a
:53:42. > :53:46.fraction of the red bowl. Possibly of the short green one. I'm not sure
:53:47. > :53:51.the angle is there. It might be. If he misses the green bowl, he could
:53:52. > :54:02.possibly get the red Queen. He will be happy just to get this. Got a
:54:03. > :54:11.chance. Front bowl. He wanted to crunch bad. But it is not too bad.
:54:12. > :54:18.He can now see it. He wanted to crunch it. Took it out clean as a
:54:19. > :54:27.whistle. Members around the crowd. -- members around the crowd. It is
:54:28. > :54:33.not an easy one for Jimmy. Paul Foster is coming back strong in the
:54:34. > :54:46.second set. He has gone running for cover again.
:54:47. > :54:59.He has got to flick the ball off, but is he lying short? One red is.
:55:00. > :55:12.He has deflected off. -- flick it off. He usually favours his
:55:13. > :55:22.forehand. Jack solid could do it. It is outside. He knows it. It always
:55:23. > :55:25.looked outside. There was a prediction from someone who said it
:55:26. > :55:32.would go to the last end of the tie-break. It was always going to be
:55:33. > :55:34.a tight game. It was just a matter of who would get over the line, that
:55:35. > :56:44.is all. He is trying with this one. Really
:56:45. > :56:49.close. This is going to get interesting now. Testing for both
:56:50. > :56:57.players. Paul might be tempted by this. Paul just checking out many
:56:58. > :57:02.time-outs he has. He will take a slow walk up. He has got to be
:57:03. > :57:09.tempted, but it is early for it. He could play the backhand and rest
:57:10. > :57:14.people off. Jack clean, he has the angle coming off his own. It looks
:57:15. > :57:23.like that sort of shot to me, it really does. He is going for the
:57:24. > :57:29.first kill. This is the only time you are allowed to kill an end. He
:57:30. > :57:37.has two nominated and he has. -- nominate it. I am surprised he is
:57:38. > :57:49.going with this one. I thought he could have drawn that off. Not a big
:57:50. > :57:59.drive. He is in the area. Well, is it going to run all the way? That is
:58:00. > :58:07.close. I think it is off. Just off. Yes, goes back. Paul Foster has made
:58:08. > :58:12.the kill, but he can't do it again. You are only allowed to do it once.
:58:13. > :58:16.You can nominate as often as you wish, but you can only do it once.
:58:17. > :58:25.Jamie Chestney will have that situation up his sleeve, he can do
:58:26. > :58:33.it. Had a couple of those, in fact, Paul Foster did the last time. In
:58:34. > :58:43.the mixed pairs, he drove the jack off. Last end of the tie-break. Some
:58:44. > :58:44.game, that one. Some great entertainment, no doubt. Paul Foster
:58:45. > :59:11.starts off again. Any turn now is really good. I
:59:12. > :59:20.wonder. I wonder will Jamie have a go at this. I think he has got to
:59:21. > :59:26.draw the first ball. I think so. He is winding up to go for the control
:59:27. > :59:35.weight. Very aggressive. He is looking. It has just gone. He didn't
:59:36. > :59:40.nominate on that, I don't think. He was looking for the jack in the
:59:41. > :59:55.ditch. Paul Foster might put one behind this. Taking a quick look.
:59:56. > :00:01.Paul Foster will be thinking to himself, and nothing in this
:00:02. > :00:08.position would be really good. If he is able to plant a bowl in there it
:00:09. > :00:09.would be absolutely marvellous. He can't afford to get the back edge of
:00:10. > :00:22.his own. Yep, that's what he's doing. Trying
:00:23. > :00:29.to come around it on the backhand. He doesn't want to be too far away.
:00:30. > :00:33.Yep. That's not bad. He's nominated in case he gets the
:00:34. > :00:38.wrong end of the ball and jack bounces out. Although, to be fair, I
:00:39. > :00:45.think that the re-spot wouldn't be bad either. But the Jack in a ditch
:00:46. > :00:49.is what he's looking for. It's got to be better this time.
:00:50. > :00:57.. Still going. Oh! It's the back end of the bowl, I
:00:58. > :00:59.was thinking he would get that. I wonder if Paul Foster will put a
:01:00. > :01:20.block in? It wouldn't be a bad shot. He's not convinced that a re-spot
:01:21. > :01:27.cover is worthwhile. Jamie will then nominate.
:01:28. > :01:32.Paul's looking at this. Trying to find the centre line. This
:01:33. > :01:38.isn't bad. It needs to pull back. Well, he's on the forehand. That's
:01:39. > :01:43.not going to affect the forehand. I think Paul would have preferred to
:01:44. > :01:51.have a cross on the forehand. Jack in a ditch is very possible.
:01:52. > :01:58.He's nominated again to kill the end. He's allowed to do that as
:01:59. > :02:07.often as he wishes. He's good on timouts. He only has
:02:08. > :02:12.one bowl after this, if kneaded. How's it looking this time? He's
:02:13. > :02:18.under again. I think he's under. Goodness me. If
:02:19. > :02:24.Paul Foster puts another bowl close to his last on the forehand, Jamie's
:02:25. > :02:29.going to have nothing to play. Apart from a dead draw.
:02:30. > :02:36.He could draw it in and try to pull the jack through.
:02:37. > :02:40.Goodness me, this is interesting. The only downside is going down
:02:41. > :02:43.first bowl. It doesn't give you any other options.
:02:44. > :02:48.I think that's what Paul's trying to do. Trying to drop in short on the
:02:49. > :02:52.forehand to block that Now this one needs to pull strong.
:02:53. > :02:56.This is pretty good. Good here.
:02:57. > :03:02.Oh, that's very good. That's very good. Still there to kill it but
:03:03. > :03:06.it's a very good bowl to stop the jack being pushed through. He can't
:03:07. > :03:10.do much more than what he has done, Paul Foster.
:03:11. > :03:23.He's managed to scratch his way through this match by turning up the
:03:24. > :03:28.volume on his performance. He's going again. Fourth time on the
:03:29. > :03:32.forehand. You want to make sure that your hand
:03:33. > :03:48.is well dry for this one, Jamie. Plenty of time. He's under again.
:03:49. > :03:55.Yep. Gone! Goodness me. He was pushed all the way by Jamie Chestney
:03:56. > :03:59.in that match. He didn't play very well in the first set but pushed it
:04:00. > :04:02.through in the second. Keeping Jamie Chestney down to a couple of scoring
:04:03. > :04:08.ends. Only one of the two tie ends at the
:04:09. > :04:22.start. He won the third one. Takes it 2-1. Good value in many respects.
:04:23. > :04:31.Paul Foster ran out. A strong finish in the game. But Jamie Chestney was
:04:32. > :04:34.very much in control. That's a four in the sixth end. It took him to
:04:35. > :04:43.three. Paul Foster picking up a three on
:04:44. > :04:46.the seventh to go level. Chester-le-Street getting that
:04:47. > :04:51.treble back again to put him into a strong position in the first set. He
:04:52. > :04:54.won 10-6. -- Jamie Chestney.
:04:55. > :05:01.Paul Foster take as three, first end.
:05:02. > :05:08.That ran through. But Jamie Chestney was kept really out of the game for
:05:09. > :05:17.long periods in the second set. As Paul Foster makes his way to the
:05:18. > :05:23.semi-final, the four-times world champion chasing his fifth title.
:05:24. > :05:28.That really reflects the match. Paul Foster proving what a champion
:05:29. > :05:35.does. He probably has a gear or two to move up but he's through to the
:05:36. > :05:39.semi-final. Paul Foster alongside me here on the
:05:40. > :05:43.ring. Paul, the first set looked like hard work. How difficult was it
:05:44. > :05:48.for you to find your stride in the second? It was hard coming to the
:05:49. > :05:53.commentary box! I was dropping threes and fours. Jamie was nailing
:05:54. > :05:57.it. At the third set, I said, I'm back in it, then dropped a three.
:05:58. > :06:04.But Jamie deserved to win the first set. The second set, you have to
:06:05. > :06:11.forget about it. Dig. In lose the first three. I said that was a great
:06:12. > :06:16.start. You have to plug away. I know today I was not my best but I showed
:06:17. > :06:23.a lot of fight. I know there is room in the tank. I know it was not my
:06:24. > :06:27.best but I dug deep and I'm happy to get through.
:06:28. > :06:33.In terms of tactics, how well did you play? Especially at the
:06:34. > :06:39.tiebreaker? I was confident. After the 3-0 down. I was setting the bowl
:06:40. > :06:45.in that sets the head up. I thought I played three decent tie-break
:06:46. > :06:50.ends, so did Jamie. The second, touching the jack, the half bowl
:06:51. > :06:56.off, and then relying on luck. Then the third tie-break but I said to
:06:57. > :07:00.myself if you get the gap, I must get the jack clean so I halved it to
:07:01. > :07:07.start again. I put it in a touch longer. The first bowl was great.
:07:08. > :07:15.Twice Jamie missed it by a paper thin. The last touch, delighted.
:07:16. > :07:19.Well, Paul Foster through to the semi-finals once again. We can look
:07:20. > :07:27.at how things look at this stage. Three matches in the quarter-final,
:07:28. > :07:32.done and dusted. Stewart Anderson, Greg Harlow, Paul
:07:33. > :07:42.Foster and more all through. Next game is between Darren Burnett
:07:43. > :08:43.and Les Gillett. Now, we're going to remind you of
:08:44. > :08:47.what happened in the first quarter-final match of the day. It
:08:48. > :08:55.was David Gourlay up against Greg Harlow. Both players are past
:08:56. > :09:00.champions. David Gourlay winning in 1996, Greg Harlow in 2010. Greg
:09:01. > :09:12.Harlow is leading in the second as we join the action once again. Yes,
:09:13. > :09:23.the one match that is guaranteed that the umpires will be busy is
:09:24. > :09:28.when Andy Thompson is out there. Simply because he can't see measures
:09:29. > :09:32.very well. He relies heavily on the umpires to sort it out. He won't
:09:33. > :09:36.wear his glasses, that's the problem.
:09:37. > :09:44.Yes but good vision from up in the commentary box! March larks 20/20!
:09:45. > :10:18.-- marvellous, 20/20! David Gourlay getting his first two
:10:19. > :10:28.bowls back into the normal routine again.
:10:29. > :10:38.Anything off the weight... For Greg, he's got a number of opportunities
:10:39. > :10:42.to catch things. He'll take that one.
:10:43. > :11:04.Good bowl. He'll be looking to repeat the same.
:11:05. > :11:09.He's on a great track. Will he get back? Just more weight
:11:10. > :11:16.on that one. Just didn't quite make it. A foot less and it would have
:11:17. > :11:20.been diving into the green bowl. It helps Greg a little bit as well.
:11:21. > :11:34.Gives him another bowl to restaurant off.
:11:35. > :11:40.This is different. I think he would have been OK with
:11:41. > :11:47.that weight if he had picked the jack up. The back green bowl would
:11:48. > :11:51.have been useful. That's interesting, David going on
:11:52. > :11:59.to the forehand. A little touch on his own bowl.
:12:00. > :12:04.Also a chance of getting cover, coming around it, that means Greg
:12:05. > :12:11.won't pick up a multiple. Waiting to see if this stops on time.
:12:12. > :12:24.Very close. That's really close. One red. Good bowl. Clever bowl.
:12:25. > :12:30.Greg's locked in there. He can certainly
:12:31. > :12:34.afford to reach it. No reason why he can't play right to
:12:35. > :12:39.it. He can try to roll off the shoulder.
:12:40. > :12:41.If he gets his own bowl off the split, that red bowl will bounce
:12:42. > :12:45.out. It's close.
:12:46. > :12:50.Very close, all on the connection. That's it. It's all it needed, the
:12:51. > :13:04.red bowl just to bounce out for the single.
:13:05. > :13:08.He played it well. Played it well. Good match, this.
:13:09. > :13:11.Yes. Second set started off really well. Both players certainly stepped
:13:12. > :15:06.up their game. It's a good bowl just in front of
:15:07. > :15:16.the jack. Still enough room for David. A
:15:17. > :15:21.slight adjustment off his last. Yes, Dan McManus is being very
:15:22. > :15:26.precise. He knows these two players like to know exactly what the
:15:27. > :15:44.distances are. David, overplaying that one.
:15:45. > :15:58.If Greg finds a good position on this one, he will be good at the
:15:59. > :16:02.end. He's pushed his own green bowl
:16:03. > :16:04.closer. That's the important bit. Now every shot here is so valuable
:16:05. > :16:34.in a match like this. Yes, so easy to do.
:16:35. > :16:39.Greg's just got to make sure he's up with the next one.
:16:40. > :16:43.The choice of both sides doesn't really matter, forehand or backhand,
:16:44. > :16:48.that's why there's a slight hesitation. He's using a timeout.
:16:49. > :16:54.Normally, you think, why use a timeout here but he's conscious if
:16:55. > :17:00.the fact if he leaves a shoulder on the backhand by being slightly wide,
:17:01. > :17:03.David Gourlay will use it. Whereas on the forehand he can draw another
:17:04. > :17:08.shot and get cover between the jack and the red bowl. So there is a dual
:17:09. > :17:13.opportunity on the forehand. And worried about David playing the
:17:14. > :17:19.runner, green on to green, into the ditch for a double.
:17:20. > :17:25.Yes, a bit wide, so he takes one of the greens out. It's a damage
:17:26. > :17:32.limitation shot. If he drops off that it will be
:17:33. > :17:47.really good. Yes, David's clapping that one.
:17:48. > :17:56.That was a very good bowl. . He might have been unlucky! I
:17:57. > :18:02.think Greg will be happy to have accepted the fact that he's taken
:18:03. > :18:10.one away. David Gourlay has to be careful
:18:11. > :18:15.here. He's only one bowl in the hand. If he gets it wrong it could
:18:16. > :18:23.cost him one more shot, maybe even two.
:18:24. > :18:27.A hard shot to draw, though. You almost have to accept if you're
:18:28. > :18:33.going to draw this, that you're losing a double. He's probably just
:18:34. > :18:39.arriving. I don't think it will be a big pace.
:18:40. > :18:51.Just a draw to try to get on to the back green one.
:18:52. > :19:04.He needs to miss the zone. Oh, without that he was very close! Two
:19:05. > :19:06.shots it is to Greg Harlow. It's a little break that he was
:19:07. > :20:12.looking for. Well, Les has Nick Brett for
:20:13. > :20:16.company. I wonder if everyone is going up for
:20:17. > :20:21.advice. The new agony aunt of the tour.
:20:22. > :20:26.He's the man, without a shadow of doubt, there is certainly agony in
:20:27. > :20:34.there, not sure about agony aunt but there you go. He's good company,
:20:35. > :20:40.Les. It's like a rotating door. One goes
:20:41. > :21:15.in, one goes out. Who's next? That's the question.
:21:16. > :21:37.Without a doubt Greg has moved up a gear in the last couple of ends.
:21:38. > :21:42.He is getting very close. He will be asking David Gourlay some questions.
:21:43. > :21:46.He is looking to string two or three ends together to get him over the
:21:47. > :22:24.line. He's let David off a touch with that one.
:22:25. > :22:31.Well, we'll see how many second shots David Gourlay. I don't think
:22:32. > :22:36.he's got too many. But if he harks he will be popping the ball off.
:22:37. > :22:43.There you go now, you see, if there is one man that needs advice, Rishi
:22:44. > :22:50.Persad is it. That's a good booking that one! L earthquake ises will
:22:51. > :22:58.start to charge for sitting in that chair beside him! -- Les will start
:22:59. > :23:06.to charge for sitting in that chair beside him! The two bowls will go.
:23:07. > :23:10.Yep. Daved's favoured forehand runner.
:23:11. > :23:14.This is important. A bill bowl for David Gourlay. He needs to get this.
:23:15. > :23:23.The jack's good. Both bowls away.
:23:24. > :23:29.He's making connection. Oh, he's been unlucky.
:23:30. > :23:31.Yep, he has been unlucky. He made a good solid connection, both bowls
:23:32. > :23:40.should have disappeared. But it will be one.
:23:41. > :23:52.It looked good all the way. Just hit it too solid.
:23:53. > :24:03.Three so thes in front, three ends to go.
:24:04. > :24:10.-- three shots in front, three ends to go.
:24:11. > :24:14.At the moment, Greg Harlow is in control. Looking more and more like
:24:15. > :24:20.a tie-break. It's at that point again. That
:24:21. > :24:22.crucial seventh end. If Greg gets this one, David will be after
:24:23. > :25:02.multiples, which is always harder. David just failing that. You can see
:25:03. > :25:04.the shift from David Gourlay winning the battle after first two bowls
:25:05. > :25:40.after a long period in this match. This one's struggling.
:25:41. > :26:03.Oh, he is in a lot of trouble now. Touching the jack round the corner
:26:04. > :26:07.would be absolutely perfect. It's almost to that stage, David may
:26:08. > :26:13.have to take a chance and run through his own two bowls.
:26:14. > :26:20.That's really good here. Really good.
:26:21. > :26:25.With the width of that he has to play it. It is better on the
:26:26. > :26:29.backhand, he has the green bowl on the jack.
:26:30. > :26:33.He has to get his own bowl. A backhand runner.
:26:34. > :26:38.Surely he is in the area for something? Oh, that's good for him.
:26:39. > :26:42.That's really good for him. Good result as well.
:26:43. > :26:48.It hit the right bowl to get the jack out into the open.
:26:49. > :26:51.It's probably one green but... It will give him a chance.
:26:52. > :27:03.Yep, one green confirmed. It's a massive strike for David. If
:27:04. > :27:54.he had missed that, he would have been in heaps of trouble.
:27:55. > :28:04.A good bowl. This is massive, this one for David Gourlay. He's right in
:28:05. > :28:10.the mix. If he loses it, he's chasing the set. Two down. At the
:28:11. > :28:16.very least he needs second shot. Not an easy one. It's a tough one to
:28:17. > :28:21.draw. He should make that. Ideally,
:28:22. > :28:25.looking to draw the winner. Very close.
:28:26. > :28:31.Needs the jack. Oh, he's got it. He's in to nailed
:28:32. > :28:33.it. Right at the front. That's a brilliant bowl for David Gourlay.
:28:34. > :28:51.Very, very important. Yes, that bowl was being clapped by
:28:52. > :29:02.Greg Harlow from about two or three yards away. He knew that was in.
:29:03. > :29:08.The first of the three singles that David needed.
:29:09. > :29:12.He needs to get that first two bowls going again. He doesn't want to be
:29:13. > :29:17.attacking again with his third bowl. He's had to do it a couple of times
:29:18. > :29:23.with running bowls the last few ends. He'll want to get away from
:29:24. > :29:25.that. But it's not a bad start but it's still not close enough in a
:29:26. > :29:31.match of this quality. It's good for the guys to have a bit
:29:32. > :30:04.of a chat, relax and start again. They are two quick players out
:30:05. > :30:09.there. Just the notion of the bowl stopped
:30:10. > :30:29.them, and the other is on the mat. That's another good bowl.
:30:30. > :30:38.This has got a bit of work to do to get back from that height with the
:30:39. > :30:41.extra weight on it. Surprised, it looked like a bit of each is
:30:42. > :30:50.happening. I am surprised he played that. Just making sure and as soon
:30:51. > :30:53.as you do that it is easy to run through. You will never get back
:30:54. > :31:18.without a little bit of pace. Greg was making sure that he was
:31:19. > :31:21.through on that one. Hard to play this chart with the right weight
:31:22. > :31:30.because you narrow your airline and it just dips away. He narrowed the
:31:31. > :31:35.line but he didn't keep the weight that time. If he had the weight he
:31:36. > :31:47.would have been very close. This is a good chance for Greg to put the
:31:48. > :31:52.second set to bed. Drop it down, try to turn the jack behind the corner.
:31:53. > :31:57.David Gourlay could be in a heap of trouble. Of course, it is his last
:31:58. > :32:05.ball coming up. If he misses, Greg will have a shop. I assume he will
:32:06. > :32:14.draw another one with this. Just a turn of the jack, it is what he was
:32:15. > :32:18.looking for. I don't think David Gourlay has anything here, put a
:32:19. > :32:25.running ball to try to knock the jack bout -- back out onto the
:32:26. > :32:32.respot position. I cannot see him trying to draw this. I think the
:32:33. > :32:46.jack is going the wrong way on the backhand. Well, it was a good bowl,
:32:47. > :32:51.but one is just not enough. You would expect Greg to add the second,
:32:52. > :32:57.going into the last end for sheds up. A tie-break on the cards. --
:32:58. > :33:28.four ends up. No mistake for the double. That or
:33:29. > :33:41.less guarantees the second set and more awareness the tie-break. There
:33:42. > :33:49.is kit, clapping her man. The nerves really start. No doubt about that.
:33:50. > :33:57.Doesn't matter how experienced you are, tie-breaks always nervous.
:33:58. > :34:01.Played so much better in the second set, Greg Harlow. He has put David
:34:02. > :34:09.Gourlay under so much pressure. David hasn't been just as
:34:10. > :34:48.consistent. Greg certainly one of the key battles in the second set.
:34:49. > :35:28.Dropping the ball very securely. That doesn't really matter at this
:35:29. > :35:47.stage. David Gourlay just need to put a lot of balls in.
:35:48. > :36:00.That certainly makes things a bit tricky for David now.
:36:01. > :36:11.Just making sure that if his opponent is removed he will not be
:36:12. > :36:17.more than one shot down. Drop another one in, just crowd at the
:36:18. > :36:23.head of bowls. Make sure there is no chance of picking up a four. This
:36:24. > :36:39.really should do it. Another one there.
:36:40. > :36:50.Forehand runner, it is a bit of a practice shot, really. That is the
:36:51. > :37:03.end of that. Set gone, David will pick up the bonus. Without a shadow
:37:04. > :37:14.of a doubt, Greg Harlow stepped up in the second set. Greg has one the
:37:15. > :37:42.toss and has given the jack and the first end to David.
:37:43. > :37:49.That was a good set for Greg Harlow. He really did put David Gourlay
:37:50. > :37:56.under so much pressure. Especially with the first to bowls in
:37:57. > :38:09.particular. That was 822 when the set ten shots to for. -- that was a
:38:10. > :38:36.double to win the set. The good run home for Greg with two doubles.
:38:37. > :38:47.It is all about winning the end. David Gourlay is doing what Greg
:38:48. > :38:54.Harlow did in the first shot. That doesn't help. He is putting himself
:38:55. > :39:08.under a bit of pressure at the moment, David. Has he got the
:39:09. > :39:15.running? Just flipped through the gap. That is very unlucky. Still one
:39:16. > :39:21.to green. If he drops back he will probably get the shot. With the
:39:22. > :39:26.forehand that is usually the case. David cannot believe he has gone
:39:27. > :39:33.through that. In tie-break ends, those little bit of luck not going
:39:34. > :39:47.your way can be very costly. It will make a huge difference. He can
:39:48. > :39:51.afford to reach it. Easy, easy. Slipped under, that gives David
:39:52. > :39:57.Gourlay a shoulder. Doesn't matter if David turns that bowled over
:39:58. > :40:05.because it is already one to green. It is always hard to repeat the
:40:06. > :40:16.bowl. Very much inclined to put more weight on. That is exactly what
:40:17. > :40:21.David has done. It is so easy to do that. You want to force it through a
:40:22. > :40:26.little bit. Still think Greg has to play for the red bowl. He needs
:40:27. > :40:30.another one in there because David could be tempted to go quicker with
:40:31. > :40:51.his last to get the green ball clean.
:40:52. > :40:58.Well, Greg is not even bothering with the red ball. Just gone for
:40:59. > :41:06.cover in case David uses more weight and get some on the respot. It will
:41:07. > :41:11.be interesting to see whether he drives this or not. I would be
:41:12. > :41:22.tempted to go quicker, to be honest. Try to make contact with the outside
:41:23. > :41:25.green or try to pull clean. That is brave, David. Brave to play that
:41:26. > :41:31.sort of weight on this forehand because it just holds off. It is
:41:32. > :41:42.good he is otherwise he will not get done. And lucky he didn't get the
:41:43. > :41:53.green ball onto the other one. I would have tried to make sure. His
:41:54. > :42:01.forehand runner is usually so reliable as well. So, for the first
:42:02. > :42:06.time in the match, Greg Harlow is in front. A good time to do it, the
:42:07. > :42:10.first end of the tie-break and he delivers the jack. David Gourlay
:42:11. > :42:16.will have the last bowl. You really want to win the end against the last
:42:17. > :42:38.bowl. David will not want to play his last bowl in this end.
:42:39. > :42:55.This is a much better front touch. It has been a bit of a slow burn
:42:56. > :43:00.game for Greg Harlow. He has come out of the blocks just a little bit
:43:01. > :43:04.on the sluggish side and then really moved up the gears and he has been
:43:05. > :43:17.getting better and better as the match has progressed. Some reply
:43:18. > :43:22.here from David. Got the gap last time. Still available on the
:43:23. > :43:42.backhand. He didn't grab the jack in his jaws so to speak.
:43:43. > :43:48.Just not there. David has got to play again to attack the jack. Just
:43:49. > :44:08.reach it and turn it around the corner.
:44:09. > :44:17.As David dropped that? He has. I think that is one opportunity to
:44:18. > :44:21.many for Greg Harlow. Even if he got onto the green one and dropped off
:44:22. > :44:28.it, it would have been good. Greg will be all over this jack, this
:44:29. > :44:38.time. There is a lot of room. He has stepped up now. Greg has two
:44:39. > :44:50.time-outs remaining. He knows how important this is. You will want to
:44:51. > :44:56.do it with the third ball. He is going for the jack. He knows if he
:44:57. > :45:03.gets his own bowl, he is straight onto the red. There it is. He is
:45:04. > :45:19.still one down, but it is a distance away. I just about favoured David
:45:20. > :45:29.for the end. To those 214 Greg. -- to 14 Greg. A lot of pressure out
:45:30. > :45:45.there, no doubt about it. Extremely good line. That is good. He is happy
:45:46. > :46:00.he has drawn the short, he is not happy where it has finished. It is
:46:01. > :46:06.not easy for Greg. No. He has a good shot available to him. If he gets
:46:07. > :46:14.back little bit quicker he might just get the jack, if he it. Even
:46:15. > :46:19.the back edge of the bowl, he could send the jack sideways to his wing
:46:20. > :46:27.green. I think knowing David would get close, Greg would be happy with
:46:28. > :46:36.this situation. It is not an easy one, but at least it is playable.
:46:37. > :46:46.Trying to get the bowl a chance to get back down. Will he hold this
:46:47. > :46:48.line? No. Good effort, just a bit inside the line. The right idea to
:46:49. > :47:08.try to punch it through. What is interesting now is that Greg
:47:09. > :47:17.Harlow moves on to the last ball. Advantage Harlow. We could do with
:47:18. > :47:23.another tight end. It is that sort of game, isn't it? It has been a
:47:24. > :47:26.good game. Good bowling, good conversion charts, lots of good
:47:27. > :47:37.tactics going on, as you would expect from these two players. It
:47:38. > :47:42.is so impressive that David Gourlay is able to compete at this level
:47:43. > :47:46.when he doesn't play competitive bowls. You can play all you want,
:47:47. > :47:50.but it is competitive balls that make each. Match practice is the big
:47:51. > :48:12.thing. Doesn't want to be short. Once
:48:13. > :48:33.again, it is a decent bowl, but it is the wrong side of the jack. Only
:48:34. > :48:42.a foot away. This is better. The difficulty for David is the same
:48:43. > :48:51.this time. In this end of the first tie-break, once you put the weight
:48:52. > :49:04.on it, it is hard to get back. He could not afford to be short listed.
:49:05. > :49:09.-- short with it. He would do well to get back from there. That is what
:49:10. > :49:16.I am saying. Once you go over the way you look good for a long time
:49:17. > :49:23.and it just falls off. As soon as you go past the jack started to
:49:24. > :49:28.bend. This is the end where you are allowed to destroy it and nominate
:49:29. > :49:38.to destroy the end and replayed. That front bowl of David APPLAUSE
:49:39. > :49:44.Is a big problem for that. Greg does not want to leave an
:49:45. > :49:51.angle. David would be tempted to run this now, a bit stronger, get the
:49:52. > :49:53.ball of flame or move his front one. He just cannot afford to not make a
:49:54. > :50:16.disturbance. He is getting something. Well
:50:17. > :50:19.played, David Gourlay. The front bowl now is close enough to give
:50:20. > :50:26.Greg a problem, though you would expect him to be fit. After his last
:50:27. > :50:32.bowl, he has left that in line for the draw. He should be inside that.
:50:33. > :50:38.That was a good ball because he was thinking if I don't make a
:50:39. > :50:42.disturbance I am in so much trouble. Greg will want to do it with this
:50:43. > :50:50.bowl. He will not want to leave it to the last. Just trying to remember
:50:51. > :51:06.his first delivery. He has got the edge bowl to help them. Dropped
:51:07. > :51:16.back. Without the drop it was still one to red. Measure for short. It is
:51:17. > :51:25.green. There is no mistake, it is green. David is saying, have another
:51:26. > :51:30.look. Yes, he is. Have another look. It is green. It is just an indicator
:51:31. > :51:38.that he fancies that. Does he draw or does he run the ball? I think he
:51:39. > :51:45.has got to drop. If he runs the ball, it is a tough one to drop. The
:51:46. > :51:52.last bowl of the match. If he gets in behind the jack... He is thinking
:51:53. > :52:02.about this. Does he want to run it would draw it? He has two reach, no
:52:03. > :52:09.matter what. A bit of a disturbance, so they have stopped the clock. It
:52:10. > :52:14.goes again. If he taps his own bowl down, he gets the single. Taking
:52:15. > :52:28.more time, he has plenty of time-outs. There we go. I thought he
:52:29. > :52:37.has an extra one left, but he doesn't. He has to play this role
:52:38. > :52:44.within 45 seconds. I think he will draw this. Even if he sits his front
:52:45. > :52:48.bowl down, he will get the win. He has a couple of options. The only
:52:49. > :52:56.danger is you are inclined to make sure you are reaching and if that is
:52:57. > :53:08.the case you can just sailed past. So much pressure. He will just be
:53:09. > :53:14.glad to give it a chance, that is all. That is all he is looking for,
:53:15. > :53:24.give it some sort of April. He needs to get to his own. He has got that.
:53:25. > :53:31.You don't see David Gourlay wiping his brow too often, but my goodness,
:53:32. > :53:36.that was a pressure bowl. Unlucky to bring it out into the open, because
:53:37. > :53:45.he could have had it right in front of the jack, but Greg Harlow has got
:53:46. > :53:49.a shot now to drive the ball off. Both players have used the
:53:50. > :53:58.time-outs. I have a feeling the green ball is second shot. So, it is
:53:59. > :54:05.either a heavy draw. I think it will be a Harlow special. He is going for
:54:06. > :54:12.the bowl. He is going to drive the bowl of. If he gets inside to the
:54:13. > :54:20.red heat will be happy. He has got the respot and the split as well.
:54:21. > :54:28.That is out of the equation now. A big drive, on his favoured forehand.
:54:29. > :54:43.He looks under. He is in the area. My goodness. I don't believe it. My
:54:44. > :54:50.goodness, Greg gets in the area and he gets some very fortunate results.
:54:51. > :54:59.My goodness me, that was, what do you say? He wasn't far away from the
:55:00. > :55:03.target but he just got a 150% result. If that happened on the
:55:04. > :55:09.first day you would laugh about it. It was just the timing, that was the
:55:10. > :55:15.problem for David. A great game between two great players. He
:55:16. > :55:22.probably just deserved to get over the line. And we can take a look at
:55:23. > :55:26.how the quarterfinal draw has progressed today. Nick Brett, the
:55:27. > :55:31.defending champion lost to Stuart Anderson. Anderson was good. David
:55:32. > :55:35.Gourlay lost to Greg Harlow, a bit of misfortune for David, good
:55:36. > :55:40.fortune for great. Paul Foster fought back like a real warrior
:55:41. > :55:42.against Jamie Chestney to win the tie-break. Darren Burnett and Les
:55:43. > :55:49.Gillett are still to come later tonight. David has been alongside me
:55:50. > :55:53.all day. We said at the start of the afternoon show that we expected good
:55:54. > :55:57.quality all the way through and that is what we got. One or two moments
:55:58. > :56:01.of drama. Just imagine the Paul Foster match because he has had to
:56:02. > :56:05.do something very few have had to do, which is to find a line and
:56:06. > :56:10.length haven't not had it at all in the first set. He has fought back
:56:11. > :56:14.and that is what good champions do. I think Paul will be happy with the
:56:15. > :56:20.second set and were delighted that he was able to progress and play
:56:21. > :56:23.better and that is important. In the tie-break, and nothing can happen.
:56:24. > :56:29.Jimmy decided to go attacking, it was dramatic. I thought he was good
:56:30. > :56:33.in the tie-break. The other match that had us talking was Nicky Brett
:56:34. > :56:38.and Stuart Anderson. You and your fellow commentator in the box could
:56:39. > :56:42.not stop enthusing about how well Stuart Anderson played. Is it the
:56:43. > :56:47.best he has played? I don't think it is the best because I remember two
:56:48. > :56:51.or three matches with Stewart that he won with the opposition was
:56:52. > :56:56.almost as good as he was and that made it look even better, for me.
:56:57. > :57:00.Nick was scratching around, he wasn't playing terribly well, so he
:57:01. > :57:03.was giving him some rain and the attacking shots were different. When
:57:04. > :57:10.I think back about whether it was his best match, nearly but not
:57:11. > :57:15.quite. One of the semifinals will be Stuart Anderson against Greg Harlow.
:57:16. > :57:19.I think Stuart Anderson will do what he did today. The difficult for
:57:20. > :57:24.Stuart Anderson is can he do what he did before? Can he get to ball was
:57:25. > :57:28.going, dominate the front end of each end and then see what Greg
:57:29. > :57:36.does? Greg has a runner that gets out of so much trouble. They will
:57:37. > :57:40.win, Les or Darren? Darren is a very confident there. I thought Alex
:57:41. > :57:45.played well, but he didn't make it. Shall I sit on the fence? You
:57:46. > :57:53.haven't been doing it all week, so I will leave it there. I did call the
:57:54. > :57:59.last one. Last bowl, I said. He did. Just a reminder afford is coming up
:58:00. > :58:02.on the BBC. Tonight, Darren Burnett against Les Gillett is on the BBC
:58:03. > :58:11.sport website. That is from half seven. And Australian open tennis
:58:12. > :58:15.highlights follows next on BBC Two. Well, we are almost at the end of
:58:16. > :58:19.the day here. We know three of the four semifinalists. Judging by the
:58:20. > :58:20.quality of players we should be in for a good weekend. From all of
:58:21. > :59:00.this, goodbye. Tom Jones, obviously.
:59:01. > :59:13.Winston Churchill.
