:00:38. > :00:44.Hello everyone and welcome to the Potters resort in Norfolk for the

:00:45. > :00:48.start of the BBC's coverage of the world indoor bowls championships.

:00:49. > :00:51.Over the next seven days there are four trophies on the line and the

:00:52. > :01:00.best players in the world are here because this is the tournament that

:01:01. > :01:03.matters most. The biggest tournament of the year was always the World

:01:04. > :01:08.Championships. You always got butterflies as you were driving

:01:09. > :01:12.here. I still get them when I am driving here. As soon as I walk in,

:01:13. > :01:16.I feel so relaxed. It is a place I have always loved and I have been

:01:17. > :01:23.very successful year. This is my second home. The crowd appreciate

:01:24. > :01:27.great bowls but also it is a service where if you were not on your game,

:01:28. > :01:31.it is a lonely place to be. But it is a wonderful place to play and you

:01:32. > :01:37.just hope that everything goes right for you when you are out there. Very

:01:38. > :01:47.close. Got it. The world singles here is the biggest title you can

:01:48. > :01:51.win in bowls. You watch Potters every year on the telly and you

:01:52. > :01:56.think, I really want to be here. For my first year, to qualify and come

:01:57. > :02:00.here and win it, it was fantastic. We all play for one thing, to walk

:02:01. > :02:05.away as World Champion. Whether it is singles or peers or whatever.

:02:06. > :02:15.Potters is the best venue that we play at, no doubt in my mind. The

:02:16. > :02:24.crowd now the game, and when you play a good one, they applaud. When

:02:25. > :02:31.you play a bad one, you get both -- a different reaction. It is

:02:32. > :02:34.fantastic. Nicky Brent will be hoping to do another cartwheel come

:02:35. > :02:48.Sunday because Sunday is the final of the singles, the blue ribbon

:02:49. > :02:55.event. -- Nick Brett. A bit of an upset, the number 16 seed lost out

:02:56. > :02:59.to Charles Bence from Scotland. Elsewhere, David Gourlay is through

:03:00. > :03:05.in the top half. In the bottom half, another seed, the number 11 seed,

:03:06. > :03:11.was knocked out by Debbie Welford of New Zealand. Elsewhere, Mervyn King

:03:12. > :03:19.and Darren Burnett are through to round two. Joining me on the rink is

:03:20. > :03:23.David Corcoran of the BBC. This is a fantastic week before somebody who

:03:24. > :03:29.has been around the sport for so long, explain the significance of

:03:30. > :03:33.this week. We have the best players in the indoor bowling world, playing

:03:34. > :03:38.all at the same time over a period of two weeks, and the Road have an

:03:39. > :03:46.opportunity to see their heroes. And this afternoon, the final of the

:03:47. > :03:49.players. What can we look forward to in this match? We have the

:03:50. > :03:58.enthusiasm of youth against the experience of two guise of different

:03:59. > :04:03.ages. And the accumulated ages are close to Les on his own! Les will

:04:04. > :04:08.love me saying that. Damien has been around from one time. He has been

:04:09. > :04:17.around the last five or six years, knocking on the door. And we have a

:04:18. > :04:22.novel situation with young Mr Salmon, building up a reputation in

:04:23. > :04:27.the same way the Damien has. Les Gillis has already been in action

:04:28. > :04:36.today. He was up against Tom Warner in the first round of the singles.

:04:37. > :04:40.-- Les Gillett. Tom Warner, taking on Les Gillett, making his 16th

:04:41. > :04:45.appearance. It was a 25 Google to start its strongest. A good last in

:04:46. > :04:52.the third end helped him build up a 6-2 lead with three to play against

:04:53. > :04:57.an opponent who seemed out of sorts in the early stages. Les Gillett's

:04:58. > :04:59.best results in the singles was the semifinal 16 years ago. His

:05:00. > :05:08.fightback started before this exquisite bowl gave him a single. He

:05:09. > :05:13.completed a great turnaround with this finely judged last bowl, to

:05:14. > :05:18.take two shots and the set 7-6. A tax adviser by profession, he passed

:05:19. > :05:21.his chartered accountancy exams last week, and Warner has made

:05:22. > :05:27.significant gains, getting the second set off to a brilliant start

:05:28. > :05:30.with a full house. But Les Gillett used all his experience to work his

:05:31. > :05:36.way back into the set with some solid bowls, leading 8-6 going into

:05:37. > :05:42.the eighth end. He took the match 7-6, 10-6, securing his place in the

:05:43. > :05:51.second round. And this is how the second round looks at this stage.

:05:52. > :05:55.Some really good match ups, including Darren Burnett, the former

:05:56. > :06:11.champion, against Mervyn King. What a fascinating match, with Debbie

:06:12. > :06:19.Welford against Paul Foster. No time for Les Gillett to relax because he

:06:20. > :06:21.is taking part in the pairs final. Alongside Jason Greenslade, up

:06:22. > :06:33.against Daniel Sammon and Damian Doubler. Of course, this is a new

:06:34. > :06:37.experience for Daniel Salmon. In the final, it is two sets of nine ends.

:06:38. > :06:41.Each bowler will have three each. We're looking forward to seeing what

:06:42. > :06:50.these four men will, with this afternoon. Let's hear from them. --

:06:51. > :06:53.what these four men will come up with. Jason sent me a text in April

:06:54. > :07:01.last year and I said yes straightaway. I didn't have to think

:07:02. > :07:05.about it. It was an honour. It was an easy choice to say I would lead,

:07:06. > :07:11.because I am relatively good at drawing the jack. Jason has got a

:07:12. > :07:17.good armoury, with running bowls. So it's sort of components each other,

:07:18. > :07:21.really. I get them close and if I get them near the jack, he smacks

:07:22. > :07:31.them out of the way. I am not afraid to smack it. I am not afraid to have

:07:32. > :07:43.a go. And he smacks them very well, to be fair. Les is the lead, but he

:07:44. > :07:47.also skips as well. He is like a naughty dog. He needs control. And I

:07:48. > :07:55.think I'm starting to control them nicely. I think this week I counted

:07:56. > :08:02.and I have lost five world finals, so hopefully it will be the best

:08:03. > :08:06.results. These guys are good players and we know we have to play our best

:08:07. > :08:16.game because if we don't, we will lose and they will win. Jason is a

:08:17. > :08:20.very attacking player so you know he will be very unpredictable on the

:08:21. > :08:25.drop shots. If we can put the pressure on, then hopefully we can

:08:26. > :08:30.get them, but they are both very good players. I've been playing for

:08:31. > :08:38.about five now. We have done all right. We keep getting better and

:08:39. > :08:44.better. Hopefully we can get this one out of the way. We are quite

:08:45. > :08:47.relaxed on the green. I think we make each other relaxed. We don't

:08:48. > :08:55.give each other a hard time. Just let the game flow and it works

:08:56. > :09:02.better that way. We are mates, and we go out together, when my

:09:03. > :09:08.girlfriend Lesley! -- my girlfriend lets me. Your ambition in any sport

:09:09. > :09:13.is to win the world title. It would be a dream come true. It would be

:09:14. > :09:16.indeed. They have had to battle their way to the final. But look at

:09:17. > :09:24.some of the players they have beaten. Daniel and Damian have

:09:25. > :09:33.defeated Andy Thomson, Mark Royal, Nicky Brett, and Mark Dawes. We are

:09:34. > :09:39.set for what promises to be a fascinating final. Time to join our

:09:40. > :09:45.MC for the day. Richard Belle. And what a dream it is for these Welsh

:09:46. > :09:50.quarterfinals. -- for these quarterfinalists. Your appreciation,

:09:51. > :10:16.please, for Daniel Salmon and Damian Doubler.

:10:17. > :10:25.And they take on a brand new partnership who've appeared

:10:26. > :10:29.collectively no less than four times in this world final. Les Gillett,

:10:30. > :10:43.the former champion, and Jason Greenslade!

:10:44. > :10:49.A great atmosphere here at Potters. Andy Thomson is alongside David

:10:50. > :10:57.Corkill in the commentary box, set for a fascinating afternoon.

:10:58. > :11:05.It is the experience of the guys in red against the youth and enthusiasm

:11:06. > :11:09.of the younger players. Unpredictable, this, because the

:11:10. > :11:17.guys have not had easy matches. Both teams have had of draws. It is

:11:18. > :11:21.difficult. Is it going to be the experience or the youthful Welsh

:11:22. > :11:50.player who comes through? I am looking forward to this.

:11:51. > :12:06.That is a very good starter, taking the nerves away a little bit. Les

:12:07. > :12:17.has had a three-hour break from his singles game so I'm sure he is well

:12:18. > :12:24.rested. The players on the old at the rink changes almost hourly. --

:12:25. > :12:33.the players all know that the rink changes. Because of that, it is

:12:34. > :12:40.important to just get away, really. It is really 50% each way, if it is

:12:41. > :12:44.good or bad. By winning, that is probably going to help them as well

:12:45. > :12:48.because it gives them a little bit of confidence. I spoke briefly to

:12:49. > :12:52.Les and he felt that in this direction he was not finding the

:12:53. > :12:56.line. I think he will be conscious of that and he will probably correct

:12:57. > :12:57.it and play a better leading game than he did this morning in this

:12:58. > :13:36.direction. Jason asking led us to play a

:13:37. > :13:43.position bowl, anything behind the head, anticipating the heavier bowl

:13:44. > :14:07.from Damian. He is anticipating the pass. A good start from Les.

:14:08. > :14:13.Daniel has been building a reputation for himself over the last

:14:14. > :14:19.few years, at a very young age of 21, he is already knocking on the

:14:20. > :14:21.door for major championships. Quite a cool customer, Daniel. A good

:14:22. > :14:44.drawing player. The pace is good. Just run, Jason. Hurry, and again.

:14:45. > :15:25.Four feet. Turn the mate. The bolt holding out. A good weight.

:15:26. > :15:30.Les is always very vocal. I think he will do a commentary here on the

:15:31. > :15:33.green himself! Issuing clear instructions is very important.

:15:34. > :15:49.There has to be no ambiguity whatsoever.

:15:50. > :15:57.Anything of that is nice. If you can get the inside... You can do this.

:15:58. > :16:08.Encouragement from Daniel to Damian, just altering the line slightly with

:16:09. > :16:12.his final delivery. The trouble is, like all things, a slight

:16:13. > :16:20.adjustment, usually you overdo it. The tendency is, a slight adjustment

:16:21. > :16:29.and you are across the head. Both players looking at this. Once again,

:16:30. > :16:38.Daniel signalling that it has gone out. That was a good weight. There

:16:39. > :16:46.is a little hole down there. The nuance of the rink definitely

:16:47. > :16:55.change. Just a slight change, enough to put a bowl off. Damien played

:16:56. > :17:03.three good bowls there. It did not look as if it was going to turn. A

:17:04. > :17:14.chance for Jason here. Right away, Les is commenting on it. Jason gets

:17:15. > :17:21.the bowl away with a little wobble. Just not enough. The wait was good.

:17:22. > :17:30.Just the one. The players will be content with one shot. It is an

:17:31. > :17:32.ideal world if you pick up three or four, but I think everybody will

:17:33. > :18:32.settle with one. Good start. Almost nonchalant, the way that

:18:33. > :18:39.Daniel gets the bowl away and then put his hand into his pocket. Yes, a

:18:40. > :18:47.cool customer. Just out for a little practice.

:18:48. > :19:03.He has both hands in his pockets now.

:19:04. > :19:13.That is good stuff, really tidy. It was always going to move but he will

:19:14. > :19:26.not follow it. A slight change to the players with the extra bowl. --

:19:27. > :19:37.aced light change to the pairs. A lot more tactical discussions, a lot

:19:38. > :19:41.more shots to be played. I think there have been discussions with all

:19:42. > :19:46.the players, do they prefer two for three. I have a slight favouring for

:19:47. > :19:58.the two bowl but I think the three bowl pairs is still a good event.

:19:59. > :20:04.The Commonwealth Games and world outdoor play with three, so it is a

:20:05. > :20:13.well tried and tested format. But we're so used two bowls, so it will

:20:14. > :20:20.take a while. Probably just more attacking play from most players in

:20:21. > :20:26.the three bowl game, you can afford to risk one or two. Every bowl

:20:27. > :20:40.really is needed in the two bowl game. A chance here for Jason. He

:20:41. > :20:52.will just be attacking here. He can afford any weight that he wants. An

:20:53. > :20:57.edge will do. He just overplayed it. He can afford that weight if he

:20:58. > :21:09.narrows it down. I think the weight is good. He has a very easy, relaxed

:21:10. > :21:28.delivery. Just trying to get to the outside red one. It was a good try.

:21:29. > :21:34.Better. Les says better but it looks white to me. Similar, mate, I

:21:35. > :22:04.wouldn't change much. He wanted another one in there in

:22:05. > :22:16.case the bowl was removed. That is a good third shot. I think Les had

:22:17. > :22:30.been asking him to play the backhand but Jason preferred to play the shot

:22:31. > :22:44.that he fancied. Very close with this. He wants a little tap on it.

:22:45. > :22:48.It moved and then moved back again. I think Daniel is probably going up

:22:49. > :22:54.to him and saying, look, I have got one. His last bowl moved and then

:22:55. > :23:06.fell back onto the green. A good try. It's just not worth it. Not a

:23:07. > :23:13.lot to be gained. Always nice to get on the board. Get the score on. He

:23:14. > :23:18.would be very unlucky to give the shot away. He could make three if he

:23:19. > :23:21.can get the red bowl out but at the same time, if he is slightly inside

:23:22. > :23:29.the line, he could give the shot away. Maybe they are just going to

:23:30. > :23:44.throw this bowl down. Without going to near the jack. I think he has

:23:45. > :23:46.deliberately thrown that wide. You can understand that. I think that

:23:47. > :24:09.was quite deliberate. It will be interesting to see how this

:24:10. > :24:13.game moves along tactically. At the moment, the players of the

:24:14. > :24:17.opportunity to go out and practice the forehand, so they should become

:24:18. > :24:21.Kabul at all distances but as you know, and a lot of bowlers watching

:24:22. > :24:28.will know that practice is one thing and competition is another. I think

:24:29. > :24:33.both pairs will probably have a plan and they will have discussed what

:24:34. > :24:40.lengths they prefer. As the game progresses, they may decide to

:24:41. > :24:43.change the tactics, but the Welsh pair are probably more experienced

:24:44. > :24:54.and playing together. That might count as the game progresses. Les

:24:55. > :24:59.and Jason are good player but they have been put together, which is

:25:00. > :25:04.difficult at times. The only benefit they have, they have known each

:25:05. > :25:09.other for 20 years on the circuit, so the strengths and weaknesses of

:25:10. > :25:12.each player is well-known. I think even the discussion the forehand,

:25:13. > :25:20.they were very open about the fact that Les is a very good draw and

:25:21. > :25:30.Jason has that shot play. That is good.

:25:31. > :25:37.I wonder how lonely Les feels out there. Three Welsh players, and all

:25:38. > :25:52.the Welsh support that is here as well. I expect there will be a good

:25:53. > :25:54.attendance from the Welsh viewers. He has suddenly become a fan of Tom

:25:55. > :26:09.Jones! He is asking Damian to attack. The

:26:10. > :26:21.shot is coming back now, very close. Solid. That is a hard shot to play.

:26:22. > :26:28.A perfect plant, pushing the bowl out. Well played. It might be

:26:29. > :26:39.tempting for layers to have a pop at this. -- tempting for Les. He could

:26:40. > :26:55.play the weight shots, and he is good at them. His line is good. Well

:26:56. > :27:01.played, Les Gillett. Fantastic. He is one down but he has now got

:27:02. > :27:29.position. Very good leading. They have settled well.

:27:30. > :27:40.Come on, keep running. Get up, get up. Great effort, pal. That is a

:27:41. > :27:49.very good effort. It will not help Jason. Forcing him to put a little

:27:50. > :28:01.bit more weight on than straightforward draw. He is under.

:28:02. > :28:09.He's calling it to drift away. He does not want to get it up to the

:28:10. > :28:11.green bowl. Plenty of comments from Les but Jason is not quite settled

:28:12. > :28:39.yet into the game. He will be conscious of Jason's

:28:40. > :28:42.ability to hit heads and do it with great accuracy. You have to rely on

:28:43. > :28:48.your lead for instructions as to what is going to happen, up until

:28:49. > :28:53.your second bowl. If it goes wrong, we are in a bit of bother. I think

:28:54. > :29:13.you need to be up there, nothing short. Just on the edge of it.

:29:14. > :29:24.Is better this time. Mr the edge by a fraction. That was all he needed.

:29:25. > :29:31.He has given himself the chance now, to get in a split. I don't think we

:29:32. > :29:41.will see Jason next time. He will not play the draw. I think he will

:29:42. > :29:45.be more adventurous. Two bowls in the head make a big difference. The

:29:46. > :29:52.guys are conscious of the fact that they are miked up. Like the

:29:53. > :29:57.footballers, they are covering their mouths. I think it is just a

:29:58. > :30:25.backhand draw here. Trying to draw the shot.

:30:26. > :30:31.Obviously not trying to draw another. I do not think he covered

:30:32. > :30:38.the spot with the previous delivery. Better this time. I think he was

:30:39. > :30:54.playing for the spot on the left-hand side. He really needs to

:30:55. > :30:59.be into the side all. What he is looking to get off the angle. If he

:31:00. > :31:03.gets into the jack, if he brings the jack at an angle over to here he is

:31:04. > :31:13.looking at two' or maybe three shots. He is still not too bad even

:31:14. > :31:23.if it moves there. Caught that is a good shot, good call. The only

:31:24. > :31:27.danger is getting the front red into the jack. Caen he is being

:31:28. > :31:34.aggressive. Looks like he will never get back on. The right shot though.

:31:35. > :31:52.Good weight. I like the shot you called.

:31:53. > :32:01.Damian Doubler very experienced now for a young man, 27. His parents

:32:02. > :32:06.there. Caen they've just realised they are on the television. Now they

:32:07. > :32:09.are worried about what I am saying. I was chatting to them last night

:32:10. > :32:29.and I told them to behave themselves. I think Damion's

:32:30. > :32:36.girlfriend was more concerned. We'll find Lucy at some stage. Probably

:32:37. > :33:09.looking very nervous. I bet she is. Daniel urging this bowl up. Not bad.

:33:10. > :33:24.That is the correction you are looking for. Daniel Salmon, Ben and

:33:25. > :33:39.Kim his parents, with girlfriend Jess.

:33:40. > :33:51.Exodus from Wales yesterday. They make their way over here, enjoying

:33:52. > :33:54.themselves last night. Some of them were enjoying themselves as you say,

:33:55. > :34:03.Andy. Special occasion for families and friends. World final. You don't

:34:04. > :34:11.get many in your career. Quite rightly well supported. It's like

:34:12. > :34:26.using drawing this one. Falling away. It is about bowls in the head.

:34:27. > :34:33.That is what it is all about. Jason normally good others. Just been a

:34:34. > :34:44.bit slow at the moment, Jason. The advantage here is you campaign

:34:45. > :34:46.yourself into the game. Damian fancies the back and more. Still a

:34:47. > :35:02.good draw. -- backhand. Clear run and he draws the shot.

:35:03. > :35:34.Close. I think he is not that far away.

:35:35. > :35:36.Finn not bad in the, well done. Thinking the score that, Jason

:35:37. > :35:44.probably thinking it was not that bad. Only 15 inches short, his line

:35:45. > :35:52.wasn't bad. Nonetheless. Some of the comments list comes out with. Hard

:35:53. > :36:01.man to please. -- layers. This has a chance for shot. If it falls in he

:36:02. > :36:09.has shot. Job done, number one. You have to make sure you just get

:36:10. > :36:19.inside for the jack. Good instructions, make sure you are

:36:20. > :36:27.here. Again the line is not bad. Has a chance for this to get onto the

:36:28. > :36:33.bowl and turn it over. Only a foot of weight. Never looked as if it was

:36:34. > :36:39.coming back off the line. Strong bias bowl. Jason shaking his head.

:36:40. > :36:46.I'm sure he will be saying to Les, I thought I was good. Was because

:36:47. > :36:51.there is a shop here for Damian if he wants to play it and take the

:36:52. > :36:57.danger away. The danger is the bowl on the right hand side of the

:36:58. > :37:00.screen, the red one, possibility of giving a shot away. If you're

:37:01. > :37:09.holding one you do not want to give the shot away. He has to be careful.

:37:10. > :37:13.The safe option is to try to come around his own bowl and have a

:37:14. > :37:26.receiver. He has played two really good shots on the backend. Click of

:37:27. > :37:35.the fingers. Not bad. Good effort here. I think he was trying to block

:37:36. > :37:47.that. Actually that is a bad one, that has given Jason a big chance

:37:48. > :37:53.now. I think Jason will be more positive. There is a good chance you

:37:54. > :37:57.could use that last one. Players always looking for an advantage and

:37:58. > :38:10.the advantages he has more width than he had before. Distinct

:38:11. > :38:19.advantage. He is under. He is not going to get a lucky one, is it?

:38:20. > :38:32.Manor. Good weight, just under the line. Les said it is not finished

:38:33. > :38:43.yet. Some strange results can always happen. They had chances but it

:38:44. > :38:49.could be the right connection. As usual before has here at Potters

:38:50. > :38:55.Leisure Resort at Hopton on Sea. Very much on see this morning. It

:38:56. > :39:01.was fresh. What time you down there? Eight o'clock. I can't believe you.

:39:02. > :39:23.You were dozing. I was. Vasyl Lomachenko and, I live close

:39:24. > :39:24.to the sea. Were far from the resources, just ten minute walk and

:39:25. > :40:07.you were on the beach. That is good. I do not think you

:40:08. > :40:12.should ever worry if you get a good first bowl and the next one comes

:40:13. > :40:16.behind. It is never lost. Biscuit would be happy with that. -- the

:40:17. > :40:57.skip. Les looking for good weight. Get to

:40:58. > :41:03.the jack and you miss it you come to the two green bowls. You want to set

:41:04. > :41:11.something up for your skip. Not always about getting shot every

:41:12. > :41:18.time. Not too bad, past the head. I think both skips will be going down

:41:19. > :41:36.just drawing with their opening bowls. Paul always gets a bit

:41:37. > :41:46.nervous. Brian very calm. I am sure he is also very nervous. As their

:41:47. > :41:58.boy played a good one? I think he is short. Two feat is not fair because

:41:59. > :42:00.if you actually put a yard on that you could pick up the jack. Not far

:42:01. > :42:20.away. On the high road. Happy enough with that figure just

:42:21. > :42:26.in case the jack is bunched through at an angle. Maybe the drawing is

:42:27. > :42:47.not going great. Might attack with this one. That is really good. No

:42:48. > :43:05.doubt about that now. It is these shots well, does Jason. Lucky he did

:43:06. > :43:16.not take his own bowl away. Not disastrous. Difficult for Damian, as

:43:17. > :43:21.we can see both green bowls could be removed but they don't have position

:43:22. > :43:31.either. You cannot cover everything. The back red bowl looks pretty

:43:32. > :43:38.attractive. Really what we're looking at is if that one goes, and

:43:39. > :43:43.that one, does that leave the red one in position. He would be two

:43:44. > :43:51.down if he gets into it as if he puts one round of a vacuum would

:43:52. > :43:57.only one down. I think he is probably going for the deep bowl.

:43:58. > :44:03.Could get into the spot position. He is going further through than that.

:44:04. > :44:12.Go for the best back. Interesting one. Interesting choice. Difficult,

:44:13. > :44:19.Jason will be trying to hit its target. See where the jack bounces.

:44:20. > :44:37.I think you are trying to get to the two red ones. Again it will be a

:44:38. > :44:43.runner. Still wide. Didn't miss by much, just a fraction. Fine edge

:44:44. > :44:46.would not have done him any good either. I thought it would have been

:44:47. > :44:56.under, there was more chances being tied as opposed to being high. The

:44:57. > :45:07.young Welsh pair are starting to take control.

:45:08. > :45:51.Is that one in my way? It might be. It takes quite a lot to put Les off,

:45:52. > :46:06.he normally doesn't worry about the one in front. He is going to have a

:46:07. > :46:10.go at it. Still chatting away. I think he knew that was just through

:46:11. > :46:26.the head. Still a useful bowl. Might change it for next time. Good

:46:27. > :46:41.correction from Daniel. Made a mistake with the first one. Very

:46:42. > :46:47.good making up for it with the next. I think this is his favoured hand.

:46:48. > :46:50.The reason he didn't change is more to do with the green bowl. Still

:46:51. > :47:00.that danger of hitting the other green on which at the moment isn't

:47:01. > :47:16.really within the play. Too much weight.

:47:17. > :47:33.Two boys from Cardiff. He knows that is a bad one and he should have been

:47:34. > :47:42.behind the head. He realises himself that was a mistake. Damian is going

:47:43. > :47:53.to have to almost waist on to get cover.

:47:54. > :48:05.Very close to making a move. Just not reaching that the line was good.

:48:06. > :48:18.Caen blocking the path now to the shot bowl. Goes for the big drive

:48:19. > :48:42.and he could still make it. Damian has to be past the head.

:48:43. > :49:00.He is OK, I think he is safe enough. That is OK. Perfect spot.

:49:01. > :49:09.He has to arrive and this with enough weight to punch the jack

:49:10. > :49:14.through at least three or four feet. Should have gone more aggressive at

:49:15. > :49:28.the centre bowl not been blocking it. I think Damian must go deep.

:49:29. > :49:36.Going to go deep. Four or five feet would be good. Measurement is done

:49:37. > :49:46.here. Players throughout the northerners fear still use feet and

:49:47. > :49:55.inches. A wee bit further than what he wanted. That is interesting. I

:49:56. > :50:03.think Jason realises this is not easy. As I keep saying, the centre

:50:04. > :50:06.bowl has just stopped the drive. We have to play this with timing and

:50:07. > :50:14.weight, which as we all know is difficult. Calling it early, that

:50:15. > :50:24.means it is not working. Quick call from Daniel up to Damian. However we

:50:25. > :50:29.look at this. -- have a wee look. I think he is better off on the

:50:30. > :50:31.backhand. As long as he moves the red bowl at the top of the screen

:50:32. > :50:46.that is a perfect blocker. He really has to get past the red

:50:47. > :50:54.bowl into this sort of area at the very minimum. Anything beyond that

:50:55. > :51:01.by three feet is good. The key bowl for him is to miss the front red

:51:02. > :51:10.one. We have to get past that. I think that is what he will play,

:51:11. > :51:15.backhand. There is no value in playing the forehand and making a

:51:16. > :51:20.mistake. Damian and Daniel pick up two here you almost feel as if they

:51:21. > :51:37.are going to pick up the opening set. Happy with that. That is a good

:51:38. > :51:43.bowl, very good. Try and use bowls. I think that is what he will play

:51:44. > :51:47.here. The two green bowls on the wane, almost half the green bowl.

:51:48. > :51:54.Come across and hopefully pick up the jack. Playing it with weight.

:51:55. > :51:59.There are more percentages there. The forehand wasn't doing anything

:52:00. > :52:06.for him. Has got a bit to do on this one. Being more aggressive. Calling

:52:07. > :52:16.it now, does not want to push it too much. Played it almost drawing

:52:17. > :52:24.weight. Could have been more aggressive. Perfect start for the

:52:25. > :53:13.Damian and Daniel. Only three ends to play.

:53:14. > :53:20.Generous crowd, clapping for that one. Yes they are. You don't even

:53:21. > :53:33.get a snicker if you get within six inches. Better from Les. They need

:53:34. > :53:47.to get two out of 3% to get back into this set. Good lead. Looking at

:53:48. > :53:51.the correction once again. If he misses with one he very rarely

:53:52. > :54:19.misses with the second. He has corrected well.

:54:20. > :54:31.I would keep it there again. No need to go chasing this. Keep it tight,

:54:32. > :54:35.keep their heads tied. Drop one fourscore one, you are in the

:54:36. > :54:55.driving seat. He has pushed this one. Just play the game, Les. --

:54:56. > :55:00.platelet again. The same result, either side, doesn't matter which

:55:01. > :55:06.way he plays it. As a left-hander, he will be looking further back

:55:07. > :55:11.green bowl on his forehand. Not sure why he will have wanted to change

:55:12. > :55:23.his hand. Trying to call this to come across. Has played two great

:55:24. > :55:29.bowls, why did he not play the same again. That is what I talked about

:55:30. > :55:36.earlier. That is where the communication might be a problem.

:55:37. > :55:50.That is why Jason has given him the choice. There you go. Feeling the

:55:51. > :55:56.face... He's not. He is all right. Easy day at the office for him. We

:55:57. > :56:02.used to play twice a day, that is not a problem for most top players.

:56:03. > :56:11.Sometimes three times at nationals. Just needs to hurry. Maybe setting

:56:12. > :56:27.up a platform. It has dropped down. Still if he needs to go chasing.

:56:28. > :56:42.Really must get at least one this end. Really not a danger on the

:56:43. > :56:51.forehand, you have got to be defensive with the lead... But

:56:52. > :56:56.exactly, any contact. Take all the danger away. Got to be positive

:56:57. > :57:07.here. Such is the green bowl, must get a result. Yeah. Horrible result.

:57:08. > :57:17.That touch on the road all put him off. That is just dreadful. That is

:57:18. > :57:30.so unlikely. The touch off the red click away. All of a sudden Jason

:57:31. > :57:44.line two. This could be massive, this could be massive. Now on the

:57:45. > :57:57.defensive, last bowl. Forehand draw, David. Just be positive. But away

:57:58. > :58:09.the disappointment of the last result. If he misses, well, you

:58:10. > :58:14.would expect adjacent and another. -- expect adjacent to add another.

:58:15. > :58:24.Will he get back, that is the question? He will have to get very

:58:25. > :58:35.good weight to get back from. Very much more to gain there. Clinton

:58:36. > :58:47.said he either to himself. To another, good call, jack is a bonus.

:58:48. > :59:00.How a space? That was a very early dismissal. -- how is Hayes. This is

:59:01. > :59:05.a chance probably missed. I think they have got to change it, go

:59:06. > :59:07.short. The jack has been on the T almost every time. Try the short on

:59:08. > :59:27.here from Les. Well, only up slightly. Again just

:59:28. > :59:36.about on the T, not much of a change here. I am sure the younger Welsh

:59:37. > :59:48.pair will be happy with this. I would have thought so. Still, they

:59:49. > :59:53.did exactly what they needed to do. They have the school, they are four

:59:54. > :59:59.behind, that will be their target. They will be looking at two doubles.

:00:00. > :00:00.Perhaps tie this end, that is as good as they could hope to get.

:00:01. > :00:29.Perfect start from Les. The first thing you want is to get

:00:30. > :00:31.behind the jack. Catching them from bowl and the jack will bounce long

:00:32. > :00:48.way. Getting close to this. If he

:00:49. > :01:07.finishes on the centreline it is good. Certainly wasn't trying that.

:01:08. > :01:09.It has finished third. He is close here again, making the correction

:01:10. > :02:15.with the second bowl. He needs to be reaching. It is

:02:16. > :02:26.close. Just unlucky to get the gap. One shot to read confirmed. We can

:02:27. > :02:53.see this bowl coming in. That touch of red would have been perfect.

:02:54. > :03:08.Well played, well done. Good use of the shoulder. Still coming down the

:03:09. > :03:19.forehand, I do not see any change. Good timing on this one as well.

:03:20. > :03:27.This looks to be an easy issue shot on the forehand side. He is going

:03:28. > :03:38.quick now. He needs a lucky result. Well, it is good and bad. He is

:03:39. > :03:43.still at least three down. It is one of those ones were you were thinking

:03:44. > :03:50.to yourself, I am going to be at least two close bowls down with the

:03:51. > :03:59.next one. But he has two left, so he will have a chance. He has no choice

:04:00. > :04:03.but to try to draw the second shot. Four down but that last bowl was

:04:04. > :04:21.four feet down, so he should be able to draw a second, Damian. Is he

:04:22. > :04:28.running? They're calling it to get up, as he sneaked past? I don't

:04:29. > :04:38.know. It looks like the is still a minimum of two. Still room for

:04:39. > :05:25.Damian but also room for Jason. Jason resets himself. He has pushed

:05:26. > :05:38.this one out very wide. He just needs to hang on. It will be the

:05:39. > :05:46.perfect line now. That is number three. There is a running bowl on

:05:47. > :05:51.but he cannot afford to play it. He just needs to add on six inches.

:05:52. > :05:55.That would score the third shot. That is the minimum he once here. He

:05:56. > :06:06.does not want to drop any more than two.

:06:07. > :06:21.In narrower line then Jason. That is very narrow. He has extra weight on

:06:22. > :06:31.it and he wants to bump his bowl up. He will be reasonably happy with

:06:32. > :06:34.that. Les and Jason will be delighted to have picked up two

:06:35. > :06:43.doubles. Now they are in with a shout. Two doubles would have been

:06:44. > :06:49.very handy. You do not want to go chasing threes and fours. They will

:06:50. > :07:31.be reasonably happy. We speak about the experience of Les

:07:32. > :07:41.and Jason but Daniel, 21, has played internationally a couple of times. A

:07:42. > :07:47.couple of times a national champion, you cannot argue with that. He has

:07:48. > :07:57.won the version for national champions as well. Fairly young but

:07:58. > :08:07.still a lot of international experience. It is a building CV. It

:08:08. > :08:10.is important for players to have the credibility as well, so the CV has

:08:11. > :08:33.been built up over a period of time. Daniel just making sure he is there.

:08:34. > :08:36.A momentum change here, I think. I feel as though Les and Jason are

:08:37. > :08:46.starting to put pressure on the younger Welsh player. It is

:08:47. > :08:49.important for Damian and Daniel to actually win this set, or get

:08:50. > :08:59.something out of it from the position they were in at 7-1. Not

:09:00. > :09:03.that it is safe for shot -- foregone conclusion, with a six shot lead,

:09:04. > :09:16.but they are down to two now. He will be praying that this one gets

:09:17. > :09:21.reasonably close. He needs to get close to the line. More importantly,

:09:22. > :09:27.it is not in front of the jack, which is good. Both pairs will

:09:28. > :09:31.probably be reasonably happy with the situation at the moment but

:09:32. > :09:52.Jason needs to draw a good one to really put the pressure on.

:09:53. > :10:00.It doesn't appear the Jason wants to talk to you, Les. He is happy enough

:10:01. > :10:09.to let the bowl do the talking. That is enough. Unless he's feeling very

:10:10. > :10:25.adventurous. I think he might risk one. I think it is worth the risk.

:10:26. > :10:28.It is quite a nice target that. The danger is taking out his own bowl.

:10:29. > :10:51.That is the worry at the moment. This comes back in, over the weight.

:10:52. > :10:55.I think he wanted to narrow that. I would have risked a runner on the

:10:56. > :11:00.forehand. Now he is in a bit of trouble. You can tell that by his

:11:01. > :11:10.facial expression. He realises this set could be going away from them.

:11:11. > :11:15.That was an interesting thing there with Les, the way he described that.

:11:16. > :11:18.It was almost like he was trying to put an idea into his opponent's

:11:19. > :11:27.mind. A wee bit of psychology going on. He knows that the younger pair

:11:28. > :11:39.are under pressure. He is almost tempting them into playing the

:11:40. > :11:50.running bowl. It is a game of tactics and psychology.

:11:51. > :12:00.Do you risk it with this one? I would drop a yard. Gaps and holes.

:12:01. > :12:06.You could run through that very easily. I understand why he is

:12:07. > :12:09.saying it because a good bowl here would close down the set completely,

:12:10. > :12:18.but it is not easy to make that adjustment. The click of the finger

:12:19. > :12:34.suggests he is probably heavy. Now he cannot risk the running bowl. He

:12:35. > :12:38.might have to play a risky one. I think the set will be against them

:12:39. > :12:50.so he will have no choice. You would expect Jason to probably draw

:12:51. > :12:53.another. In fact, in some ways, another one will force Damian into

:12:54. > :13:00.the right shot. It is almost better if he misses it. Then Damian is

:13:01. > :13:07.frightened to play it because he has a tight set. But if there was three

:13:08. > :13:15.against, he would not care about that. It is quite important for this

:13:16. > :13:25.finishes. He has to go for the three. If you have the chance to win

:13:26. > :13:31.the set, you must take it. It looks very, very tight. He is calling it a

:13:32. > :13:36.lot, but Jason Holt is a very tight line. It is never going to holes.

:13:37. > :13:47.This is no interesting because he really cannot afford this. That is

:13:48. > :13:51.why they have left themselves in a bit of trouble. They should have

:13:52. > :13:58.attacked early and now they are in trouble. The hard bits, and this is

:13:59. > :14:03.what they will be talking about, is if they come inside the jack and

:14:04. > :14:07.stick it. Then they are in trouble. There is not a lot of danger on the

:14:08. > :14:12.back. If you slice the jack, you would probably be two down. If he

:14:13. > :14:19.gets onto his own bowl, it is good. As you say, the danger was getting

:14:20. > :14:25.the jack on an edge. Because that really brings in this bowl and this

:14:26. > :14:31.bowl. And that is the last thing that he wants, to lose the set. At

:14:32. > :14:36.the minute, he is getting something out of it. If it was me, I would

:14:37. > :14:44.take a gamble and play the backhand runner. You are so aggressive, you

:14:45. > :14:55.really are! I think he has drawn the forehand. Trying to tap the bowl to

:14:56. > :15:01.win the set. He's going to have to drop a lot of weight to get back

:15:02. > :15:16.there. He's going to give it away. As he survived it? I think he has.

:15:17. > :15:23.Only two. Les and Jason will be delighted they have managed to get a

:15:24. > :15:32.draw out of that. Three goes of that, and three times on the high

:15:33. > :15:43.side. It was just not getting back. They got away with that said. --

:15:44. > :15:53.that set. It is definitely Les's day. Three doubles. Les Gillett, I

:15:54. > :15:57.heard him their say, we are going to win it now. You cannot doubt what he

:15:58. > :16:01.is saying, because the young Welsh pair are not happy. They had such a

:16:02. > :16:11.good lead, they were in control but they let it slip. It is very much

:16:12. > :16:13.the advantage of the more experienced player, as we have seen

:16:14. > :16:50.in past couplets. This sort of Rob that. -- they sort

:16:51. > :17:02.of robbed that. Just tactics, Andy. I would be putting them down as the

:17:03. > :17:12.slight favourites now. The chances of a tie-break are probably less.

:17:13. > :17:19.They would have given a lot for one of those in the last hand. It

:17:20. > :17:29.depends if they can put away the disappointment of that. They are

:17:30. > :17:31.still in there. I'm sure they will. All they need is one set to become

:17:32. > :17:49.world indoor pairs champions. I'm glad that we have Les miked up

:17:50. > :18:40.today. He is giving us all the information. Gentle, gentle.

:18:41. > :18:47.There is no doubt that it is a game for the connoisseur. It is a

:18:48. > :18:59.different tactical game. A lot more discussion going on. A lot more

:19:00. > :19:03.heads building up. Damian is a quiet guy. He has a great sense of humour

:19:04. > :19:15.but he is a quiet lad. He is a thinker. Three Welsh players on the

:19:16. > :19:20.green. We missing colleague, Mr Price. Hopefully he is well, back in

:19:21. > :19:25.Wales. I am he is watching this. I have been speaking to him, and I am

:19:26. > :19:42.sure he is doing fine. I hope things are well with you, John.

:19:43. > :19:56.Messages on social media for letters. From John Price. An

:19:57. > :20:08.honorary Welshman. Who would've thought that a few years ago. Close

:20:09. > :20:17.to drawing the shot here. That jack moves very quickly. Good stuff. A

:20:18. > :21:08.closer shot. He has to be careful here. He has

:21:09. > :21:23.got it. He still holds on to the one. Very good bowls from Damian. He

:21:24. > :21:34.has made a double. And he has a good head as well. Jason playing the

:21:35. > :21:43.forehand draw here. He picks up the jack. That is a real bonus. Just

:21:44. > :21:47.asking the guys to move across so we can see the outside peg, the extreme

:21:48. > :22:03.of the rink. That is where players take their line from.

:22:04. > :22:12.The same bowl again from Damian. Resting the closest red bowl. That

:22:13. > :22:23.could be a four. I think he heard you. That is what players are always

:22:24. > :22:33.looking for, drawing another 143, and it is a bonus if you touch the

:22:34. > :22:40.bowl away from it. They are not always looking for the perfect shot

:22:41. > :22:54.on the jack. The bowl is the target. And now he's trying his best to get

:22:55. > :23:04.back with this. Just open. The chart is going in to make sure it does not

:23:05. > :23:27.move when it is getting measured. -- the chock is going in.

:23:28. > :23:35.It looks like two. That is the advantage of getting out there as

:23:36. > :24:06.quickly as possible. Jason Greenslade has been brought

:24:07. > :24:11.back in to the Welsh indoor team. We want the top players to be playing

:24:12. > :24:16.for all countries. I presume you order the Irish team in Belfast in a

:24:17. > :24:20.few weeks' time? I don't presume anything. There is another trial

:24:21. > :24:26.going on Wednesday night that obviously I am going to miss. I

:24:27. > :24:34.think everybody's places in jeopardy, Andy. You will be a hard

:24:35. > :24:42.team to beat in Belfast. It is my own club. I'm looking forward to the

:24:43. > :24:46.series. It is one of the biggest clubs around. You know what it is

:24:47. > :24:54.like. The facilities over there are excellent. Always a good attendance

:24:55. > :25:01.from the Irish. I use staying next door, within staggering distance? --

:25:02. > :25:02.are you staying next door within staggering distance? I believe we

:25:03. > :25:28.are staying with the Welsh team. He needs a clear road. He started to

:25:29. > :25:29.say that was a great bowl because he knew if he had missed it, he was

:25:30. > :25:58.right on top of the jack. Well played. It is a beauty. If the

:25:59. > :26:02.torture goes into the ditch, it stays live but he has two marker

:26:03. > :26:13.before the next bowl is delivered. That is why they are so quick about

:26:14. > :26:17.it. A good innovation, spray chalk. You do not need to be touching the

:26:18. > :26:22.bowl now. Otherwise, they would be down there with a stick of chalk,

:26:23. > :26:26.and with coloured bowls, it is very difficult to do that. They use a

:26:27. > :26:37.different material, of course, it is not the same as the old stuff. It

:26:38. > :26:40.was a mellow mine material. We will not go into the details of how they

:26:41. > :26:47.are made and all the ingredients, there is not enough time. I'm glad

:26:48. > :26:58.you were not going to ask me that question! You know that that is what

:26:59. > :27:05.I do at night, read these things up. Good effort. That is another handy

:27:06. > :27:15.bowl. They have put the opening set behind them. Starting this set well.

:27:16. > :27:22.They have been the better pair, no doubt. Something tactical media

:27:23. > :27:26.towards the end of the second set, or there were a couple of shots

:27:27. > :27:33.available. This is awkward for Jason. You probably have to try to

:27:34. > :27:40.move something, really. The site bowl is ideal. Jason is normally

:27:41. > :27:47.good at the running bowl. He will be slightly under. It will not hurt

:27:48. > :27:59.him, moving that one. But there is only one in it. I think there might

:28:00. > :28:06.be just one shot there. Drying again, not looking for position,

:28:07. > :28:10.Daniel. Worth a pop with the first one in this situation, but does he

:28:11. > :28:19.need it for the second? We will see. The jack goes back. It will not be

:28:20. > :28:26.of real benefit. Another one in the area. Just occasionally you make a

:28:27. > :28:36.horrible war locked and you move back to the draft. If it is only

:28:37. > :28:42.one, I think Jason will be happy to drop one. It looks difficult to

:28:43. > :28:48.score. If you take a read out, all of a sudden you are four or five

:28:49. > :29:04.down. That is a handy bowl. It gives him an angle to come off. Still very

:29:05. > :29:12.difficult to score. It might be worthwhile leaving this one.

:29:13. > :29:22.Occasionally you cannot improve the situation much. The boys are looking

:29:23. > :29:36.closely at this to see there if there is one or two. One would not

:29:37. > :29:44.be bad. I think Damian is leaving to head this time, going around the

:29:45. > :29:52.back. I don't know where his girlfriend, Lucy, is. She is able or

:29:53. > :29:59.herself, very good one. I am not quite sure how you were going to

:30:00. > :30:04.score here, Jason. I think he will be tempted to play this on the other

:30:05. > :30:09.side. Take second and walk away. Because this just isn't worth it. If

:30:10. > :30:17.anything goes wrong here, he is four or five shots down. That is what I

:30:18. > :30:23.am looking at, what Jason said here. If he gets the outside bowl. It

:30:24. > :30:33.could be two anyway, according to lawyers. -- according to Les. The

:30:34. > :30:37.difficulty for him, if you get into this bowl and comes off, he has the

:30:38. > :30:41.angle to come into this other one. And that is just horrible. If he

:30:42. > :30:44.gets the green bowl onto the jack and moves through, he is in all

:30:45. > :30:50.sorts of trouble with two green ones back there. So is it better just to

:30:51. > :30:55.draw on the forehand and just tap it? I think it probably is, just try

:30:56. > :30:59.to secure second. That is not easy. I wouldn't envy the shot he has got

:31:00. > :31:12.to play here. It is a difficult one. I think as you said he is trying to

:31:13. > :31:19.turn his own bowl up for possibly second. It would be great if you

:31:20. > :31:23.came around it for the number one. GROANS FROM CROWD

:31:24. > :31:44.Might have posted slightly away, actually. A little bit unlucky. It

:31:45. > :31:52.was the right shot play. It was. I don't know if it just move the red

:31:53. > :33:04.one slightly further away. Tactics really come into it in a big way.

:33:05. > :33:19.Once again getting off to a good start. Playing good bowls. Yes they

:33:20. > :33:37.are. They just have to get over the line.

:33:38. > :33:50.Three of four manufacturers are represented there today. Always good

:33:51. > :33:56.to see the good mixture but the one common feature is they are all

:33:57. > :34:06.strong bias. You need a good drawing bowl here, not necessarily the only

:34:07. > :34:15.popular bowls on market that the players here playing with good

:34:16. > :34:24.drawing bowls. Good bowls from players. Chances are possibly for

:34:25. > :34:36.Daniel to play a heavy bowl. Good shot there. He was very quick.

:34:37. > :34:47.Goodness me. That bowl was away within a second. Sometimes you have

:34:48. > :34:55.to stand back and measure it up and say I am better on the outside. That

:34:56. > :35:04.was only controlled weight. Still the same target for Damian. I would

:35:05. > :35:10.expect him to kick this target. Trying to cover that its a bit more.

:35:11. > :35:16.He has moved the jack a little bit. The men might be tempted to try to

:35:17. > :35:25.draw this off. A bit more room. The running bowl still available. I am

:35:26. > :35:41.withdrawing players that I think most players would be driving this.

:35:42. > :35:52.I think he will draw it. You would expect him to hit something here.

:35:53. > :36:03.Good strike. Has taken one out. He didn't play that very aggressively.

:36:04. > :36:23.He could have been more aggressive. Well played, very good. And again.

:36:24. > :36:36.Just a draw. Nice draw here from Damian. Happy with second.

:36:37. > :36:58.Click of the fingers, usually an indicator. Still a good head for

:36:59. > :37:23.Jason. That was well played. That scooted

:37:24. > :37:34.along at a fair place. Trailing the jack but jack and the bowl at least

:37:35. > :37:39.3.5 feet. Says the man that when he is there can't tell the difference

:37:40. > :37:49.between two bowls that are six inches away. A lot more confidence

:37:50. > :38:01.from the circles. Not always easy to draw on the pressure is on. Just

:38:02. > :38:19.needs to run a little bit more to make absolutely sure. Doesn't matter

:38:20. > :38:23.where it finished. Single bowl. Always looked good on the way in but

:38:24. > :38:42.it was where it was going to finish. There is a gap. Always a choice. One

:38:43. > :38:53.of the other he will be happy with. Body language says he thinks he is

:38:54. > :39:00.just outside it. If anything he wanted to be on the inside. You

:39:01. > :40:31.would normally get eight taciturn offers.

:40:32. > :41:02.Daniller hasn't played many bowls on this side.

:41:03. > :41:23.It is a target. Just drawing is it? That is a wise call, very tempting

:41:24. > :41:28.running bowl. But it is wise to get another one in this format. I agree,

:41:29. > :41:42.drawing well. Few expect him to not be too far away. Close. Useful bowl.

:41:43. > :41:49.Something to play with now. Can I get back enough? You could take on

:41:50. > :41:51.bowl wave that it really wasn't sufficient for his needs. It would

:41:52. > :42:21.just be replaced. Good bowls from Les. This is going

:42:22. > :42:33.to be a runner, three down. Les having a little chat. With the

:42:34. > :42:54.decency on the right-hand kitty left. He is in the area. A bit

:42:55. > :43:09.unlucky, still three down. There is more room to draw. Good strike.

:43:10. > :43:20.It is going to be another one in there. Even beating that bowl would

:43:21. > :43:22.be good. You might even get second. Thing would be happy with second or

:43:23. > :43:37.third shot. Not much but he is in bother. Three

:43:38. > :44:15.down. Expected to add another. Probably coming in for another shot.

:44:16. > :44:27.So easy to drop more than that and over correct. That bowl is counting,

:44:28. > :44:34.that is four and measure. The same bowl as his last. For handle, just

:44:35. > :44:37.take a yard off. When you are for or five down there is more pressure. It

:44:38. > :45:01.is a nervy one. Couldn't gauge anything from his

:45:02. > :45:05.reaction. Waiting to see what Daniel is saying. I think he will just

:45:06. > :45:14.sneak up the something that not enough. Probably has third, maybe.

:45:15. > :45:20.If he has served that is good. That is what we were saying about over

:45:21. > :45:31.correcting, so easy. Les reckons its three. Draw another one and the lead

:45:32. > :45:37.disappears. Any movement of the jack could be four. Now it is coming

:45:38. > :45:56.back. Trying to mess with their heads a

:45:57. > :46:13.little bit. Certainly back in the set. Jason managed to hang on in

:46:14. > :46:18.this end. The anything we have not seen so far is the short jack.

:46:19. > :46:28.Everybody has put the jack on the T. That is the gamble they take. The

:46:29. > :46:39.rings were pretty clear that it was four.

:46:40. > :46:55.Les put three great bowls in. Going to go shorter this time? A little

:46:56. > :47:06.bit, could be the 27 figures to the feet. Not sure about this. Such a

:47:07. > :47:25.big part of the game. Is two yards beyond where he wanted it. Not where

:47:26. > :47:36.he wanted it. Nobody has tried 24 or 25 metres.

:47:37. > :48:03.He knew it was short. He will correct with the next one.

:48:04. > :48:15.That is a danger of getting the jack wrong. You put your opposition in.

:48:16. > :48:54.Are you running, Les? That is good, really good. Judy

:48:55. > :49:03.Potter in her usual seat. Great supporter of the sport. You normally

:49:04. > :49:11.inform you the colour. You obviously haven't been looking today. I will

:49:12. > :49:18.leave that for a day or two because I'll have to look it up on my chart

:49:19. > :49:27.to make sure it is right. Nice to see her here, big supporter of

:49:28. > :49:36.bowls. That is another good bowl. This is very good boring here.

:49:37. > :49:43.Perfect. Now we will see whether Jason is on form in terms of the

:49:44. > :49:48.drive because he has missed the few. Jason had indicated to Les he would

:49:49. > :50:02.play the draw. That is courageous and unusual. And not true. He

:50:03. > :50:33.tricked us all. Good effort. Not far away.

:50:34. > :50:43.This is just the run. Possibly not. They might go to the draw now. Any

:50:44. > :50:55.tab on the bowl and he will get the jack moved to the red.

:50:56. > :51:10.Les saying it should be quicker. On the high side.

:51:11. > :51:21.I think Les indicated early on and it was fine from the hand. Chance

:51:22. > :51:35.for Damian to add another. The line is good. All about the weight. Wants

:51:36. > :51:40.to be gentle. That is unlucky. Because he has brought the jack out

:51:41. > :51:45.into the open. That is usually a red rag to the bowl when it comes to

:51:46. > :51:53.Jason. Looks like a backhand runner from Jason. Not only that, if he

:51:54. > :51:58.hits it absolutely right all three green bowls could go. As Les has

:51:59. > :52:03.indicated, he has a chance. That was very unlucky, I have to say. One of

:52:04. > :52:07.the times when you do not want to be close to the jack. I have to say

:52:08. > :52:18.this is a big bowl. If he catches this good it gives them the

:52:19. > :52:28.advantage. This is a big one. Harry! That means it is not the inside.

:52:29. > :52:34.Perfect. Not only that, it has landed by the ciders, we will check

:52:35. > :52:40.to see if it is within the confines of the rink. I get the personages

:52:41. > :52:48.from his reaction. -- I get the impression it is. No movement from

:52:49. > :53:01.the umpire. That is accounted one. -- guaranteed. Then it is. Touch on

:53:02. > :53:06.the green, he's not going to go for that, surely? There is a touch on

:53:07. > :53:16.the green. I think he will leave it. There is no way they will beat that

:53:17. > :53:23.one. Declared, one shot. Perfect from Jason, really. I'm lucky he

:53:24. > :53:28.moved the jack into the open. Crucial but it has to go down as an

:53:29. > :53:35.unlucky shot but at the same time a mistake as well. Anything two Fifa I

:53:36. > :53:40.was really good. Botha probably a bit unlucky to move the jack. On

:53:41. > :53:48.another day he taps the front bowl and lands beside it. Just on another

:53:49. > :53:49.day. But in the final of major championships you have to be so

:53:50. > :54:33.careful. Jack length 28.5 metres. Once again

:54:34. > :54:37.long, not much messing about. 2425 to see what would happen. Curious to

:54:38. > :54:44.see who is prepared to take the risk. They planned in the last end

:54:45. > :54:49.to throw in the short run and it went along. It was the Welsh pair

:54:50. > :55:01.who got in first. Big bowl from Jason that turned it around. In this

:55:02. > :55:07.direction Les has played quite well. He says it's not great. I have heard

:55:08. > :55:12.that before. Not great and it ends up three inches away. He was right

:55:13. > :56:21.this time. The line was good. So it has to be short.

:56:22. > :57:03.Not far away. Trying to secure the shot.

:57:04. > :57:11.That hasn't helped. Certainly hasn't. That is a problem when you

:57:12. > :57:13.drop short, when you think to yourself you have to be with last

:57:14. > :57:55.bowl. You end up over correcting. That is good. He really is in

:57:56. > :58:02.trouble now. Might have just helped Damian. Makes the head slightly

:58:03. > :58:12.wider. He has to just hope to move something. Just broadening the head,

:58:13. > :58:19.he has made it easier for Damian. Front bowl he is looking at now.

:58:20. > :58:32.Well, has taken one away but it hasn't really helped the situation

:58:33. > :58:37.that much. Right. And on the left Katie, her sister, both very good

:58:38. > :58:44.players. Their father Poseidon, Neill, very good player as well. He

:58:45. > :58:53.has played in many events. Top quality player. I am sure the girls

:58:54. > :59:01.will be discussing this match. They won't be happy that Damian is

:59:02. > :59:08.starting to put pressure on them. -- their father beside them.

:59:09. > :59:27.I had to make sure I got his name right, of course. Good effort.

:59:28. > :59:45.I think obviously the danger is going forward but he's three down.

:59:46. > :59:49.Taking the front on the way is not going to make a lot of difference.

:59:50. > :59:54.He will have the last bowl. The alternative is a draw but that is a

:59:55. > :00:06.tough one as well. It is not an easy backhand draw. He will do well to

:00:07. > :00:14.get close to this. Trying to encourage it up and over. It is a

:00:15. > :00:24.good try. Case in some options with the final delivery.

:00:25. > :00:33.You can see the passion with Daniel. He is a passionate player. You can

:00:34. > :00:39.see the passion, that he really wants this. It is great to see, I

:00:40. > :00:43.love to see that. That is the way it should be if you are going to be a

:00:44. > :00:51.really good player. You have to be passionate about it. Both sets of

:00:52. > :00:59.parents looking slightly worried. I can understand. His girlfriend

:01:00. > :01:06.keeping calm. I think Jason has to cover. There is a green bowl at the

:01:07. > :01:30.back. This will be deep. That is good enough. Takes the

:01:31. > :01:36.danger the way. If it is two you have to think about it more. I think

:01:37. > :01:48.this is a backhand runner. The odds and percentage on the backhand

:01:49. > :02:00.running bowl. Two down, maybe three. Just has to hit any of the green

:02:01. > :02:02.bowls. The last one was not far away. Just needs to go wider. See

:02:03. > :02:25.what happens. He is in the area. He played it

:02:26. > :02:38.well. A lot better than three. Jason's last bowl, the perfect bowl.

:02:39. > :02:43.Played well. Clips the green. Jason's final delivery. Good strike.

:02:44. > :02:55.Don't be too disappointed with that one. In the area. All to play for.

:02:56. > :03:07.A lovely crowd here to see this. They love the pairs. The interaction

:03:08. > :03:17.with the players. The mixed pairs tomorrow. We have had some great

:03:18. > :03:24.mixed pairs finals. Some good games already in this tournament. But it

:03:25. > :03:26.is the men's pairs here. Open pairs. Available to both genders, the open

:03:27. > :03:33.pairs. We sometimes see the women players

:03:34. > :03:52.coming through, winning qualifiers. I have not seen a mixed gender pair

:03:53. > :03:54.getting to the latter stages yet. I'm sure a fee will be writing in,

:03:55. > :04:16.tweeting in. -- a few. Three ladies qualified for the open

:04:17. > :04:34.singles, so they can certainly play. Close again from Les Gillett. It is

:04:35. > :04:41.handy, jack higher. A good bowl in there.

:04:42. > :04:48.You make sure you are arriving with this one because you have your green

:04:49. > :04:52.bowl to push in, the shoulder to rest and the jack to pick up and you

:04:53. > :05:00.do not want to be short and that is what he played. Not far away but two

:05:01. > :05:05.feet down. He tried to be too neat. Two feet through would have been

:05:06. > :05:14.good. It is those bowls that create the pressure all the time. It stacks

:05:15. > :05:24.up. If he puts a front touch here, they will be in control of this end.

:05:25. > :05:31.That is the shoulder I was talking about and that is where you have to

:05:32. > :05:35.be. Not as pretty now as before. In terms of Daniel Salmon. He will not

:05:36. > :05:43.like what he can see. The path to the jack is difficult now.

:05:44. > :05:52.Once again looking for a runner and it was quick. Closer, David. He knew

:05:53. > :06:02.it was halfway up. It was not rubbish. He knew he was not far

:06:03. > :06:08.away. He was very close. You knew it was going to go wrong. One against

:06:09. > :06:22.three and another red to come and it will be one against four on the

:06:23. > :06:25.rink, that is. Three red called. David will be attacking this. I

:06:26. > :06:31.think he has to go past, Jason. Could be tempted with the draw on

:06:32. > :06:34.the forehand. Turn the jack around the corner. Does not need it.

:06:35. > :07:03.Anything deep is good. Big run, Jase. Hurry, hurry. He is

:07:04. > :07:14.looking for the draw shot. I think that is what he was looking for. It

:07:15. > :07:19.is still a drive. But I do not think it has changed Damian's shot. He has

:07:20. > :07:27.to hit the target and a good chance of getting a result. Is he under?

:07:28. > :07:35.One away. That is not as good as it was.

:07:36. > :07:45.That is almost a resignation of dear, oh dear, things are not going

:07:46. > :07:48.quite as good now. But he is committed. Committed to playing the

:07:49. > :08:01.attacking shot with three against him. Could be four. He has no

:08:02. > :08:15.choice, he has to go for this. He has to gamble here.

:08:16. > :08:28.He does not have a big drive. Quite controlled. We cannot see it on the

:08:29. > :08:37.screen that there is a toucher in the ditch. That is a good result. I

:08:38. > :08:45.think he has the shot. He played that well. Played it more

:08:46. > :08:51.aggressively with letting the bowl do the work. Now, Jason, what do you

:08:52. > :08:58.do? He has to try to draw the closest bowl. At least five feet. If

:08:59. > :09:08.it were closer to the ditch, he might be tempted to run the -- the

:09:09. > :09:19.bowl. Good strike. Very good strike. Courageous bowl. Being four down

:09:20. > :09:26.makes up your mind. Yes, it does. He had to hit it and he hit it

:09:27. > :09:34.perfectly. We see the overhead view of the jack on the right-hand side.

:09:35. > :09:52.The umpire slightly indicated green. Steady. Steady. It looks pretty good

:09:53. > :10:20.to me. A lot depends on whether this is two

:10:21. > :10:26.shots or not. Of course you were not worried, Les, you would just

:10:27. > :10:32.chatting like mad, steady. If it is one shot, he will have to run the

:10:33. > :10:40.bowl. If it is two... He will have to drop a second. Most people have

:10:41. > :10:49.suggested it is only one. Take the bowl out. Will he played the

:10:50. > :11:01.courageous shot? I think he will go fast, try to take the bowl out.

:11:02. > :11:06.Quietly determined type player. You can see that in his eyes. It was too

:11:07. > :11:17.wide. A measure for the second. It is

:11:18. > :11:24.important is is only one shot for the Welsh pair.

:11:25. > :11:39.Two shots down two ands to go can be done. Three is hard.

:11:40. > :11:56.-- ends. It is the angle of the jack coming down. It is not a bad angle.

:11:57. > :12:11.The ditches are not really deep. Absolutely right. Knock it off. Very

:12:12. > :12:17.accurate. -- lock. It is not in. Just the one. Everybody was right.

:12:18. > :12:40.We hadn't counted on this one. One to red. To be fair to Jason and

:12:41. > :12:46.Les, they have dominated the last ends. People will be thinking why

:12:47. > :12:52.they have not got a sonic measure to sort things out. I would be totally

:12:53. > :12:56.useless with a sonic measure in that situation, but we have tried them.

:12:57. > :13:03.They do not work. They have been discarded quite quickly. Absolutely.

:13:04. > :13:06.Very rapidly they were put away. A lot of people thought they would

:13:07. > :13:13.work and that is OK. Nothing wrong with that opinion. I have two of

:13:14. > :13:20.them at home. They will be antiques, sometime!

:13:21. > :13:52.All we need is one good bowl. Favourites if they score this end.

:13:53. > :14:03.Some get a look at the umpire's kit, some of the stuff is useful,

:14:04. > :14:06.calipers and things, but when you study it, a lot of the stuff is

:14:07. > :14:21.based on when they were developed. It fundamentally has not changed. A

:14:22. > :14:25.good box measure was invented in the 1900. Exactly. It has not improved

:14:26. > :14:31.anything from the umpire's point of view. I don't think modern

:14:32. > :14:37.technology has done much for that side. You will not find a

:14:38. > :14:50.battery-operated anything in there. There will not be a microchip

:14:51. > :14:57.insight. Good effort, Les. Opened with the backhand and change to the

:14:58. > :15:11.forehand. Played a good bowl. Les over the last three ends has just

:15:12. > :15:24.won the leads battle and that has given control.

:15:25. > :15:45.I think, Jason, the solution is, just do what you want to do, Les.

:15:46. > :15:55.Jason is right. Don't worry about me! That is what he said, you are

:15:56. > :15:59.hard work at times! He is entertaining is Les. He is

:16:00. > :16:09.funny at times, he really is. Jason has called it correctly. Do not need

:16:10. > :16:15.to build the head up any more. He sneaks around the green bowl. Not

:16:16. > :16:21.bad. It is probably a reflection of that home, he does not get a word in

:16:22. > :16:32.with the four girls, that is what it is. Still asking for the draw. He

:16:33. > :16:50.needs to win this end. Cannot afford to go chasing. They need to score.

:16:51. > :16:56.5-0 up to 6-5 down. It is a problem. All of a sudden, that has made the

:16:57. > :17:02.head Egger said it might help Damian. If I would Jason I would

:17:03. > :17:05.cover the spot. I'm sorry, 7-5 down, which is why they need to score this

:17:06. > :17:34.end. Come on, Jase, come on, lad, get up.

:17:35. > :17:41.Come on, Jase. One more go. Well played, mate, very good.

:17:42. > :17:49.They are really going for the win. Trying to get that double. Damian

:17:50. > :17:54.was always going to strike this. It is all on connections. He has a

:17:55. > :18:06.connection. That is not bad. He has gone into the ditch. His own bowl

:18:07. > :18:11.has been so far away at the angle it does not even come into it. But he

:18:12. > :18:17.has opened it up. He has. He has done well. It will be hard to get

:18:18. > :18:26.to. I agree, I do not think this will be easy. Jason is favourite

:18:27. > :18:34.because of the lie. Not only that, he has the bowl holding up the line

:18:35. > :18:40.a little bit more. Two yards away. Normally that would be easy to beat.

:18:41. > :18:45.But it is not really that easy. He has to throw the bowl down and

:18:46. > :18:51.ignore the bowls in the way. Hope you find is a clear path. The line

:18:52. > :18:56.looks good. The line is decent. It is whether he has too much weight or

:18:57. > :19:11.not. Will he pick up the jack? Surely not! What a shot. You have to

:19:12. > :19:24.say. Perfect. Absolutely brilliant. And didn't he need it. The third

:19:25. > :19:29.delivery of Damian's. Perfect bowl. You could say if he had missed the

:19:30. > :19:33.jack, he had enough of it to stop him going in but you have to give it

:19:34. > :19:40.a chance that he did. That was brilliant. Les cannot believe it. It

:19:41. > :19:51.is impossible now for Jason to score here. He will probably try to edge

:19:52. > :19:56.it off. Probably trying to get a good second in. At least two yards

:19:57. > :20:06.for Damian to score a double. Better than the previous. It needs to stop.

:20:07. > :20:17.Same bowl again from Damian. Same line, same weight. Resting his own

:20:18. > :20:28.for a double. It is not a given, but he can afford to be aggressive. The

:20:29. > :20:37.toucher will not go far, apart from into the ditch. Certainly out wide.

:20:38. > :20:39.Needs a clear run. As he caught the red? I think he has. It was too

:20:40. > :21:04.heavy. I said the chances of a tie-break

:21:05. > :21:10.were slim but maybe I was wrong. The chances are maybe thou greater.

:21:11. > :21:15.Absolutely, it is read to get two drawn sets but a fair reflection of

:21:16. > :21:21.the game in many ways because those boys were good for a long part of it

:21:22. > :21:35.but Jason and Les really came back stop the last two, three ends, they

:21:36. > :21:41.have been the better pair. The Welsh pair. You will get a few letters in

:21:42. > :21:53.from the Welsh firms. I love going to Wales. I miss it. -- Welsh fans.

:21:54. > :22:51.In the area. Got the shot. Perfect. He will be happy with that one.

:22:52. > :23:01.I would be surprised if that bowl stays for the whole of the end stop

:23:02. > :23:03.they will be attacking but I think at the moment Jason is rightly

:23:04. > :23:32.building up the head first. He could do well to play this on the

:23:33. > :23:42.other side. Resting on the red bowl. If he gets into good position...

:23:43. > :23:53.He is very close to drawing another. Well played. Gently, gently.

:23:54. > :24:05.Fantastic. He is almost nonchalant. Casually throws it away. Well... It

:24:06. > :24:13.is a bit early for them, but they will take it. Forcing Les to play

:24:14. > :24:19.the weight shot. No point in trying to draw a close one. Oh, he got that

:24:20. > :24:29.away early. Damian will not be going near this

:24:30. > :24:36.now. Looking at the position, seeing whether jack will go if connected.

:24:37. > :24:41.Hooked on the inside line. Jase will be at this. I'm curious. Will they

:24:42. > :24:46.go defensive by putting a short bowl in and protecting, or do they go

:24:47. > :24:54.into position? I think they go into position.

:24:55. > :25:01.The two players are very knowledgeable.

:25:02. > :25:11.Definitely trying to come deep. Not worried about the respot at the

:25:12. > :25:17.moment. Jason quite simply has got to strike

:25:18. > :25:28.this. He is calling it to draw, but not

:25:29. > :25:38.that far away. Taken his own bowl out. Has he lost both? I think he

:25:39. > :25:43.has. That makes it harder. That makes a massive difference by taking

:25:44. > :25:50.the bowl. He has three at the edge and one bowl on the rink. I don't

:25:51. > :25:54.know how Jason is going to get the shot. He has got to do something

:25:55. > :26:01.with this delivery. If he misses this, I think it is gone. So do I, I

:26:02. > :26:05.think it is impossible to school then, almost, apart from the perfect

:26:06. > :26:12.draw. That is wise in the situation, you do not go near that, you play

:26:13. > :26:21.position and leave it. Right, Jason, this bowl has got to do something.

:26:22. > :26:31.He is better, he is much better. Oh, well. He did well to get the two. I

:26:32. > :26:37.thought by doing that he would have to take his own out completely. One

:26:38. > :26:42.down, Jason will be happy with that result. He certainly will. I thought

:26:43. > :26:49.the jack must move and so that was a great strike. Very good results, as

:26:50. > :26:53.well. There was no way those two were going out clean and leaving the

:26:54. > :27:01.red one so that is a good result and a good strike, a pressure bowl. He

:27:02. > :27:07.is the right man for it, Jase. You would expect Damian to draw another.

:27:08. > :27:14.Can you imagine the nerves? 27. Going down to draw for game. I bet

:27:15. > :27:17.he wishes he was drawing for game but he will be lying. Effectively

:27:18. > :27:34.drawing for game on the rink. Right, Damian, how close are you

:27:35. > :27:41.going to get? Has he missed it? He is OK, I think. Just OK. He is in

:27:42. > :27:51.their for two, but it is a long way away. Jason quite rightly... He was

:27:52. > :27:56.going up to the head, but he came back, composed himself. Take your

:27:57. > :28:02.time. That is what Les has said. I think Damian was looking for

:28:03. > :28:05.something within six inches to guarantee a drawn set. Jason

:28:06. > :28:10.couldn't drive it. Now he is drawing for the match. With all his

:28:11. > :28:14.experience, you have to say you would expect him to get it. I fancy

:28:15. > :28:27.him to certainly get the second. Normally the player would say

:28:28. > :28:34.something. Les is not even looking at the moment. Is he running? I do

:28:35. > :28:41.not think he is up. Hurry, Jase! My goodness, is he there? He is there.

:28:42. > :28:50.I thought he was dropping short but he just managed to get there. Big

:28:51. > :28:56.hugs all around. They have won the world pairs. What a great game.

:28:57. > :29:02.Fantastic game. Jason, when he let the bowl go, I did not think it was

:29:03. > :29:06.running. What a pressure bowl. Delighted for the pair of them. All

:29:07. > :29:13.those years of experience came to bear on the second part of both

:29:14. > :29:21.sets, after being 5-0 down they came back to lead 7-6 going into the last

:29:22. > :29:26.end and with the last bowl, Jason Greenslade draws the shot. Brilliant

:29:27. > :29:28.entertainment. Both pairs contributed greatly to the match.

:29:29. > :29:44.Fantastic final. The two young men, 2721 against the

:29:45. > :29:48.experienced Les Gillett and Jason Greenslade. We expected a good

:29:49. > :29:55.match. Both had come through hard quarters and semis. And it was all

:29:56. > :30:02.for Daniel and Damian at the start. They played so well with a 7-1 lead

:30:03. > :30:09.but saw it disappear with three twos against them. They came back strong

:30:10. > :30:14.in next set to go 5-0 in front. Jason was under pressure and then

:30:15. > :30:20.they picked up a big four on the fourth end of the second set what a

:30:21. > :30:27.bowl that was by Damien to secure the shot. Ultimately, it comes down

:30:28. > :30:33.to the big bowl at the right time and Jason Greenslade provided it.

:30:34. > :30:45.Big pressure, big bowl. Big final. Well done, boys.

:30:46. > :30:51.Two shots the difference in the second set, plunged not much in it

:30:52. > :30:56.but the bubble man young men were in front. Average shot blend the same,

:30:57. > :31:02.the match played in a similar way and a fantastic performance by both

:31:03. > :31:07.parents. Experience getting the two guys over the line.

:31:08. > :31:16.All four players beside me. I want to be proud of, it's very difficult

:31:17. > :31:27.in the aftermath when you've just got next on the line but you both

:31:28. > :31:32.played extremely well. APPLAUSE It was a really good game and could

:31:33. > :31:35.have gone either way. Fair play to the boys, played really well. It's

:31:36. > :31:42.been a good tournament, congratulations to Jason this final

:31:43. > :31:48.is a new experience for you both. Was there in it that you think. We

:31:49. > :31:56.fancy coming back and doing better next time round. Will give it a go

:31:57. > :32:00.again next year. And give it a go. See what happens. Always difficult

:32:01. > :32:06.in the aftermath, really well played both of you, fantastic effort. I

:32:07. > :32:12.will talk to the champions now. Jason... APPLAUSE

:32:13. > :32:22.I just wanted to ask you what you thought about when you released your

:32:23. > :32:29.last bowl. What I thought of, I hoped and prayed, really. We're

:32:30. > :32:34.going to look back at it. Jason has released it, we're going to show

:32:35. > :32:39.everybody one more time. He's shouting come on Jason, what are you

:32:40. > :32:42.thinking what might I never even watched. Anything can happen with

:32:43. > :32:48.Jason, and you're never quite sure what you're going to get. He said he

:32:49. > :32:57.is close and got excited towards the end. Really pleased for Jason.

:32:58. > :33:03.Absolutely. This is a new experience for you, liars, Jason winning the

:33:04. > :33:16.world pairs, what does it mean to you? It means everything. What's the

:33:17. > :33:22.difference winning it this time around? I think I've enjoyed it more

:33:23. > :33:30.with Jason because he's been quite challenging at times. I'm going to

:33:31. > :33:34.have to ask you to explain that. Very frustrating, he seems to bowl a

:33:35. > :33:37.few wayward ones and finds a good one when it matters and that's what

:33:38. > :33:43.he did at the end, fair play to him. At the end of the day he played a

:33:44. > :33:49.brilliant last end and won as the game. Thanks very much. APPLAUSE

:33:50. > :33:55.Did you describe your relationship as a father-son relationship. Jason

:33:56. > :33:58.did, he's older than me. Yes, the father has got the bottle of whiskey

:33:59. > :34:04.in his room, so we're drinking that later. Fantastic effort from Damian

:34:05. > :34:11.and Daniel but your champions. Jason Greenslade and Les Gillett. -- you

:34:12. > :34:23.are champions. It is time for the presentation and

:34:24. > :34:30.to make the presentation we have the managing director John Potter and

:34:31. > :34:38.the chief Executive of the world bowls tour, Mr Richard Madison.

:34:39. > :34:41.Receiving their runners-up cheque, ladies and gentlemen, how about

:34:42. > :34:43.these guys from Wales, give it up for Damian Doubler and Daniel

:34:44. > :35:10.Salmon. APPLAUSE Now to the winners, to receive a

:35:11. > :35:17.lying and glass goblet each, a check and a title for the 2017 world

:35:18. > :35:25.indoor pairs champion, James Gillett and Jason Greenslade.

:35:26. > :35:52.how about that? Ladies and gentlemen, one more time, the World

:35:53. > :36:14.Indoor Pairs World champions. Huge congratulations, fantastic

:36:15. > :36:20.effort seeing off Damian and Daniel. Let's remind you of what's coming up

:36:21. > :36:22.on the BBC just after the bowls today, highlights from the

:36:23. > :36:30.Australian Open, you can see what happened between Johanna Konta and

:36:31. > :36:33.Ekaterina Makarova. They met we switch our attention to the singles

:36:34. > :36:39.competition. We're going to have a look at how Mickey Brett gets on in

:36:40. > :36:51.his match. The next match taking place. -- Nick Brett. Andrew Kyle is

:36:52. > :36:53.on his first appearance. We'll hear from the defending champion as he

:36:54. > :37:02.reflects on his success from 12 months ago.

:37:03. > :37:11.It's fabulous to be back. World Championships of any sport, it's

:37:12. > :37:16.fabulous to be apart. Luckily last year I was lucky enough to get my

:37:17. > :37:20.name on the trophy. Obviously fantastic to be back. Even driving

:37:21. > :37:25.back down with a smile on your face looking forward to coming back to

:37:26. > :37:30.where the happy memories. Two o'clock start, seemed to go for

:37:31. > :37:33.another, seem like six o'clock in the evening when we started. Both

:37:34. > :37:40.pretty nervous, first final for both of us. A real good one, last bowl of

:37:41. > :37:53.the first set to get a draw out of said that wasn't looking like going

:37:54. > :38:02.my way. First game of the second, managed to get four. All of a sudden

:38:03. > :38:08.I have something to hang onto, not to do anything silly whether it was

:38:09. > :38:14.a better set than the first set, I don't know to be honest, not really

:38:15. > :38:21.too worried. Just a case of doing enough from then on them to be in

:38:22. > :38:25.front come the end of the 11th ends. Has to make contact, if it misses

:38:26. > :38:34.it's all over. It's gone, Roberts already clapping and Nick Brett has

:38:35. > :38:37.won the world singles. Needs to be improved a little bit but not

:38:38. > :38:43.worried about that, if I keep doing it a few more times, that will be

:38:44. > :38:48.fantastic, maybe I can have my legs a bit straighter in the next one.

:38:49. > :38:54.Fabulous to have my wife and two girls with the photos. Seeing you at

:38:55. > :38:59.the world champion, doesn't get any better. Extra pressure the first

:39:00. > :39:04.round, everyone is looking at how he's going, is he going good? My

:39:05. > :39:12.opponent is a good player, that a number of times internationally, not

:39:13. > :39:18.in singles but in fours games. Last time he beat me in the British Isles

:39:19. > :39:25.fours final. I have to be on my game. Hopefully I can be and

:39:26. > :39:29.hopefully it's as good -- it's a good spectacle, and if I'm meant to

:39:30. > :39:33.win, then good, if I don't, I had a great time last year and try as hard

:39:34. > :39:37.as I can this year. I've played this game for 30 years and if you told me

:39:38. > :39:42.I was ever going to be world champion I'd be laughing at you. To

:39:43. > :39:46.say I am and other people do as he loads of questions about it when you

:39:47. > :39:49.go around every club and play competitions and people ask you

:39:50. > :39:54.loads of questions, it doesn't get any better.

:39:55. > :40:03.It's been a fantastic run for Nick Brett over the past couple of years.

:40:04. > :40:07.He has had the most wonderful spell, the best player in the world, ranked

:40:08. > :40:11.number one and the defending champion, what has been the

:40:12. > :40:15.difference in why he's gone from a pretty decent player, top ten, to

:40:16. > :40:19.being the top man? I think really what's happened is that he's learned

:40:20. > :40:24.how to play the rink and how to play the opposition, before that he was

:40:25. > :40:29.quite flamboyant player, very aggressive, very early, he's learned

:40:30. > :40:32.to take that into a position where he commands the game. How does he

:40:33. > :40:38.approach this year 's championship because only man in the last two

:40:39. > :40:41.Becketts has successfully defended the title and that's Alex Marshall,

:40:42. > :40:48.he's won the title six times, how does the challenge this year differ

:40:49. > :40:53.for Nick Brett? Defending champion is difficult, the first run for any

:40:54. > :40:57.of the top seeds is hard, it will be tough against Andy Kyle but it's all

:40:58. > :41:01.about playing his normal game, he doesn't feel the pressure that way,

:41:02. > :41:06.he just wants to play well and if he plays well very few people can beat

:41:07. > :41:09.him. The man trying to beat him as Andrew Kyle, let's do what he has to

:41:10. > :41:18.say about playing the defending champion. Where you want to be is

:41:19. > :41:25.playing at this level. It's my first time here and I know I want to go

:41:26. > :41:31.out there and do my best. If I do that I'll get somewhere close. He

:41:32. > :41:37.has no weaknesses that are apparent. I just go out there and try to play

:41:38. > :41:41.my own game and see for it takes me. Hopefully it's enough. I think I

:41:42. > :41:49.played at the top level and I've proved I can do it, I can compete.

:41:50. > :41:57.If I draw my game, my best strength is drawing and not get distracted by

:41:58. > :42:03.how Nick plays his game. To any ball against the pinnacle, the biggest

:42:04. > :42:08.tournament in our indoor sport. This is my first time here and you strive

:42:09. > :42:15.every year to try to qualify to get their and if you get there, get a

:42:16. > :42:20.run in it. I want to take my chance. On paper, Andrew Kyle looks to have

:42:21. > :42:25.an uphill task against Nicky Brett, you know him pretty well. What does

:42:26. > :42:28.he have that gives him a big chance? He's got the all-round game, that's

:42:29. > :42:32.the thing with Andy. Been around a long time, more than people realise,

:42:33. > :42:36.Irish titles, British titles and that's one of the things that bring

:42:37. > :42:40.you through two major events. He is one of those players that's just

:42:41. > :42:44.underneath. You know he's very good but he can take on the best. It's

:42:45. > :42:47.good to be a tough one. Can you see him upsetting the apple cart? I

:42:48. > :42:53.don't think so purely on the basis of the experience that Nick brings

:42:54. > :42:57.to it, I don't think so. Don't be surprised if Nick just press buyers

:42:58. > :43:01.a little bit in this match. We look forward to seeing Moscow to happen.

:43:02. > :43:03.The defending champion getting his campaign underway, so time to hand

:43:04. > :43:12.over to our MC. The first player from Canterbury

:43:13. > :43:16.antrum one day singles championship -- country

:43:17. > :43:22.your appreciation please for Andrew Kyle.

:43:23. > :43:43.And this world number one has proven time and time again what a

:43:44. > :43:46.formidable opponent he can be. Former Scottish international open

:43:47. > :43:48.and defending world indoor singles champion, give it up for Nicky

:43:49. > :44:09.Brett. King forward to seeing how Nick

:44:10. > :44:10.Brett goes this afternoon against Andrew Kyle, will head up to the

:44:11. > :45:12.commentary box. Nick Brett, this could be an

:45:13. > :45:16.interesting and testing game for him. It's the first round, not

:45:17. > :45:21.really the easiest when you think the British Isles player. Andrew

:45:22. > :45:25.Kyle, you certainly know more about him than I do. Speaking to Nicky

:45:26. > :45:30.yesterday and he knows this could be a hard game. Andrew has been around

:45:31. > :45:33.a game for a long time and played with him in the international team,

:45:34. > :45:41.one of the younger players that was coming through. You're going to take

:45:42. > :45:45.some credit with Andy does well? Popped me into third with Andrew for

:45:46. > :45:49.a few years and an established skip in the international team. Didn't

:45:50. > :45:56.need me to help with that but I've moved on onto a younger skip with

:45:57. > :46:01.Gary Kelly. Andrew Kyle is a lot of British titles and a lot of national

:46:02. > :46:14.titles. And a very experienced player. One green.

:46:15. > :46:21.He can play all the shots as well, he's a good running bowl player but

:46:22. > :46:25.the key to his game is the draw as well. That's absolutely essential,

:46:26. > :46:32.not one of these players that will pop at everything. APPLAUSE

:46:33. > :47:01.In many ways he reminds me of Nicky Brett from six or seven years ago.

:47:02. > :47:07.All the talent but need the opportunities. Just needs a

:47:08. > :47:13.breakthrough, doesn't he? Just one big win for a couple of big wins and

:47:14. > :47:20.you're into the top 16. But it's not easy to play Nicky. World champion,

:47:21. > :47:24.world number one. He knows the game. Another one coming in. That's very

:47:25. > :47:32.good. Really good leading draw bowls. Just a draw for Nicky, such a

:47:33. > :47:41.good running player but this is just a draw.

:47:42. > :47:52.Going early. Doesn't look like a running shot butties in the area.

:47:53. > :47:58.He's got his own, no change. Two shots, Andrew Kyle. This will be

:47:59. > :48:05.testing for Nick but you have to go through it. Not even a question

:48:06. > :48:11.about being favourite. This will be about how much Nick can put the

:48:12. > :48:12.pressure on the Andy Kyle with regards to playing the running

:48:13. > :48:23.bowls. Andrew's and international skip so

:48:24. > :48:28.could play the running bowl, shouldn't hold any fears if Nicky

:48:29. > :48:33.starts to draw closely. Just about different shots. Yes, the hard shots

:48:34. > :48:38.on the ones in between, the lack of knowledge of the rink is very hard

:48:39. > :48:42.and Andy was playing national championships over the weekend, had

:48:43. > :48:48.to come here and miss out on a couple of finals. He's going to try

:48:49. > :49:36.to make this worthwhile. Good correction there from Andy. I

:49:37. > :49:43.should say early in this match that Nick Brett is known as Nicky to

:49:44. > :49:52.almost everyone on the same with Andrew Kyle is known as Andy.

:49:53. > :50:04.Close again. First two bowls, that's the key to his singles play. Last

:50:05. > :50:20.bowl, the gap is four inches. Good outdoor player as well, Andy

:50:21. > :50:27.Kyle. Been on the edge for consideration for major

:50:28. > :50:37.championships. Good try here. Good bowl. The sort of player that can

:50:38. > :50:42.fit in to the Commonwealth Games, World Championship teams at number

:50:43. > :50:49.two and number three. Not happened yet but may do in the future but he

:50:50. > :50:55.is that sort of. I would agree, can easily fit into the Irish team. Just

:50:56. > :51:00.a draw year, and do not come to have a look at this, just a four hand

:51:01. > :51:05.draw. The umpire has indicated probably read. This target will be

:51:06. > :51:18.the three bowls at the back. Just trying to get back to the

:51:19. > :51:25.outside red one, not going to make it. Chance here for Nick to pick up

:51:26. > :51:29.a four, the only thing about playing four hand, he'd already pleaded,

:51:30. > :51:33.Andy, but the backhand would have been covered as well. Could have

:51:34. > :51:37.played that, but I agree with you, Nicky moves this jack Senior inches

:51:38. > :51:45.he could pick up four. First big chance for Nicky. -- if he moves

:51:46. > :51:51.this jack a few inches. Fancies this one, does he have the running? I

:51:52. > :51:52.don't think he does. That's a missed chance. He knew that was a chance,

:51:53. > :52:16.he slapped his thigh. There's one thing that won't affect

:52:17. > :52:19.Andy and that's the crowd. I know the character of the man and that

:52:20. > :52:23.won't affect him. He doesn't do the pressure that way. The doll about

:52:24. > :52:28.whether he plays well or not and she'll have to play well to stick

:52:29. > :52:36.with Nicky Brett but she'll be concentrating on his game. Quite a

:52:37. > :52:42.quiet character. Is that right? Yes, he is. I know of the green as well

:52:43. > :52:52.and had many chats with him and he thinks about the game. It takes us

:52:53. > :52:55.opportunities very seriously and the sort of guy always happy to have

:52:56. > :53:33.around the rink. Very good. The type of bowls you got

:53:34. > :53:45.to play if you're going to try to beat Nicky. Get in first.

:53:46. > :53:53.A lot of qualifiers come through and as you know, some don't play indoors

:53:54. > :53:58.very much in some other countries but when you come across somebody of

:53:59. > :54:04.international standard and Nick will now Andy quite well in terms of

:54:05. > :54:08.playing against Ireland in the home internationals, so Nick knows

:54:09. > :54:12.exactly what he's up against. Again, I was speaking to Nicky last night

:54:13. > :54:15.and he did see exactly what you said, if you're up against an

:54:16. > :54:25.international player you know that they can play. Good covering bowl

:54:26. > :54:33.that from Andrew. Little tactical end this one. Nick certainly

:54:34. > :54:34.reaching with this one. If it passes the head it gives him a chance with

:54:35. > :55:00.the final delivery. Andy won't be happy with that one.

:55:01. > :55:03.Anything past, he had all the opportunities then to even take a

:55:04. > :55:07.gamble. Adomah what's happened with that but it's a long way away and a

:55:08. > :55:21.shake of the head. I assume he didn't get the delivery right.

:55:22. > :55:36.Nicky just trying to reach the reviewer. Inside his own bowl, try

:55:37. > :55:40.to spring the jack. Wasn't far away. A tentative draw on the forehand,

:55:41. > :55:45.probably just a little drift round on the high side. I think he could

:55:46. > :55:49.play either side. They a good opening bowl on the backhand side,

:55:50. > :55:54.so interested to see which hand he's going to play here. Forehand is

:55:55. > :55:59.safer, I think that is what he's got to play. This will be the high line

:56:00. > :56:06.drift. Yes. Throw it out, let it come back, if it comes back within

:56:07. > :56:18.six inches jack high. Headline is very good. How is the pace. Well

:56:19. > :56:31.played, fantastic. Great bowl. Two shots Andrew Kyle. Score 1-4 after

:56:32. > :56:43.she ends. -- three. Tough game for the defending champion, nine ends in

:56:44. > :56:47.each set. It is even, it is a shot clock, doesn't happen in the first

:56:48. > :56:56.delivery and of course we have our time at as well. Jacklin 's 28.5

:56:57. > :57:03.metres. Don't recall anybody losing their bowl. The last couple of days

:57:04. > :57:09.I've been here. I don't think so, David. Very easy to run out of time

:57:10. > :57:20.when you're concentrating on what shot to play. Once again, another

:57:21. > :57:25.good. That's great. Great bowling. First bowl getting close every time.

:57:26. > :57:34.If Nicky Brett didn't think so beforehand and I'm sure he did, he

:57:35. > :58:02.knows he's now in a game. Good reply. APPLAUSE

:58:03. > :58:09.That's what you want to avoid, losing the bowl against Nick Brett

:58:10. > :58:15.and that's a lost bowl down there. He had won in the last end as well,

:58:16. > :58:20.just got to concentrate on every bowl, make every bowl count. That's

:58:21. > :58:24.what Nick is good at. Good bowl but still green. Just behind with this

:58:25. > :58:52.one. Gentle, gentle, Andy, you do not

:58:53. > :58:59.want that jack. That's a mistake, obviously. Shouldn't have been

:59:00. > :59:08.anywhere near it. Bit unlucky but he was lying one, but now two down. Bit

:59:09. > :59:15.of a Christmas gift, Adelaide one four Nick Brett but he's got a

:59:16. > :59:24.chance to add to it. Anything behind the jack would have been useful

:59:25. > :59:28.there. And now he's in bother. Backhand draw is on but could also

:59:29. > :59:32.be slightly more aggressive on the backhand if he fancies it. He can

:59:33. > :59:39.afford to be under the circumstances. I don't think he'd be

:59:40. > :59:46.any worse off even if he hits it his own front bowl, it could come into

:59:47. > :59:51.the head. Shaping up draw. Very straight on the mat. Just playing in

:59:52. > :00:00.between. That's a tough one. Needs help. That's a tough one to play. I

:00:01. > :00:06.think it was a draw for a fast runner.

:00:07. > :00:17.Suddenly this is going to come back very quickly now for Nicky Brett.

:00:18. > :00:24.In singles you do not want to give the shot way but to give two way is

:00:25. > :00:31.tough. He was unlucky. He could've gotten edge and the front bowl and

:00:32. > :00:39.it would have taken him around perfectly but this could be costly.

:00:40. > :00:43.Just the two, that's not too bad. Nicky Brett scores two. You have to

:00:44. > :01:15.put disappointment behind you and move on.

:01:16. > :02:35.Started very well to put a lot of good bowls down. Players settled in

:02:36. > :02:39.very quickly. It is always difficult after the pairs final and all the

:02:40. > :02:41.excitement to come on. The crowd have been moving about. A very good

:02:42. > :03:08.bowl. A chance with this. A positive line.

:03:09. > :03:15.Moves the jack. Well played. Good shot. Good arriving draw, making

:03:16. > :03:16.sure you are reaching through it. Two or three chances. Picked it up

:03:17. > :03:48.nice and clean. Will he get back? Just enough. What

:03:49. > :03:52.do we call that? He was certainly reaching. Just caught the jackpot

:03:53. > :03:57.deserves it. This is the point, you need to be there. If he had missed

:03:58. > :04:02.it he was coming into a good position just behind. At least two

:04:03. > :04:09.feet heavy. It is all part of the game. Unlucky the last maybe

:04:10. > :04:24.slightly fortunate there. -- last end.

:04:25. > :04:35.Well played, Nicky Brett. That is a great bowl. He was on the backhand

:04:36. > :04:50.previously but he had to find new line map grown, new weight. -- he

:04:51. > :04:58.had to find new line, new weight. Andy will have to just reach with

:04:59. > :05:13.this one. Four, five feet away. He is not sure. It is a swinging bowl

:05:14. > :05:21.he uses. As soon as you are down the narrow lie. The two guys do not know

:05:22. > :05:28.each other that well. I think both players will be happy to keep their

:05:29. > :05:36.concentration. Nicky doesn't chat too much with his opponents. 27 and

:05:37. > :05:45.a half metres. 27 and a half. It is good to have

:05:46. > :05:49.the relaxed atmosphere and two guys with mutual respect, which is always

:05:50. > :05:54.handy. Sometimes you get the odd qualifier coming through, maybe does

:05:55. > :06:00.not give the respect to the top players and just gets on the green

:06:01. > :06:09.thinking, I am going to take you out. A healthy respect for your

:06:10. > :06:16.opponent is always useful. Both players are international skips.

:06:17. > :07:05.They can both play. This just needs to run. Good bowling.

:07:06. > :07:14.Just lacking with that one. Both players favouring different hands.

:07:15. > :07:27.Shows that the rink is playable on either side. Nicky B backhand, Andy

:07:28. > :07:38.Lee forehand. -- Andy with the forehand, Nicky with the backhand.

:07:39. > :07:50.Andy still feeling comfortable on the forehand.

:07:51. > :07:59.It just needs to run. It needs to hurry. He has just rocked it short

:08:00. > :08:06.which is a problem. Any movement at all and he makes a four. This has

:08:07. > :08:11.been a loose end, Andy's loosest of the game. Will he be punished by

:08:12. > :08:21.Nicky's final delivery? This could hurt. He will be looking for it. He

:08:22. > :08:22.is running after it, he might like this. Any movement of the jack. He

:08:23. > :08:40.is close. Well, drawn number two. Same bowl from Andy. Still the

:08:41. > :09:00.forehand drawer. I don't think he will be attacking this. -- draw.

:09:01. > :09:10.The danger is always when you have played three shot bowls, you tend to

:09:11. > :09:18.push it through. It is the overcorrection, isn't it?

:09:19. > :09:38.Sometimes you are tempted to move on to the other side, start over again.

:09:39. > :09:40.4-1 in front, now 6-4 down. Getting into his stride. Two of those shots

:09:41. > :10:44.were gifted to him. Andy does not look like a player who

:10:45. > :10:48.has not played other portable rink in the World Championships. Is this

:10:49. > :10:53.the first time? I think they qualified through earlier rounds to

:10:54. > :10:59.get through, but this is the first... The first in the singles,

:11:00. > :11:14.from memory. In terms of the championship I am

:11:15. > :11:18.talking about. He had to come through the pre-qualifiers so he has

:11:19. > :11:27.played on from that. Still looking quite good. Nick having to keep his

:11:28. > :11:38.focus on the game to keep Andrew Kyle at bay.

:11:39. > :11:47.That is a handy bowl. If he wants a shot here, it will be hard to get on

:11:48. > :12:00.the backhand. It looks more like a forehand shot. It does.

:12:01. > :12:07.The line is good. How is the pace, Andy? Very close. Great bowl. Well

:12:08. > :12:20.played, Andy. Forehand side, rest of the bowl onto

:12:21. > :12:24.the jack. In the meantime, Nicky Brett has been sprinting back to the

:12:25. > :12:33.mat. He does not waste any time. He does not! Time-outs, what are

:12:34. > :12:41.time-outs, Nicky says. Waste of time! Fast player and good player

:12:42. > :12:47.from the point of view it keeps the game going. He gets on with things.

:12:48. > :12:54.You have to be careful here, Andy, you are lying one, but it is very

:12:55. > :13:05.dangerous to add another. I think he will be erring on the wide side.

:13:06. > :13:15.6-5 with two ends to play, that's OK. I think it is there to say it is

:13:16. > :13:33.on the wide side. I think so. A smile from Nick Brett. There was

:13:34. > :13:43.absolutely no way that was going to be a situation of trying to draw

:13:44. > :13:47.another. Two ends. One shot here for Andy Kyle to have a shoot out for

:13:48. > :13:57.the first set, which is always great.

:13:58. > :14:32.Just dropping short on this forehand. Needs to get that one in

:14:33. > :14:39.first. Not only that, he has been playing it very well. Leaving Nick

:14:40. > :14:45.the open hand. The last end in this direction he'd dropped short on the

:14:46. > :14:49.forehand and it gave him problems. Drop short three times.

:14:50. > :14:53.Overcorrected on the last bowl but the backhand has been the hand that

:14:54. > :14:58.has been favoured by most players in this direction. Most have not led on

:14:59. > :15:04.this. One or two have. Jamie Chestney house, but most have led on

:15:05. > :15:14.the backhand. It is dropping a bit but coming across. Two short bowls.

:15:15. > :15:20.Remembering it from the last time and thinking, well, time to change.

:15:21. > :15:25.I agree. If I were Andy I think I would be playing the backhand now.

:15:26. > :15:31.Forced onto the forehand with his final two deliveries. That is

:15:32. > :15:39.dropping a little bit, as well. I wonder if it is just pulling up.

:15:40. > :15:48.Possibly just a little bit heavier. As you know, whenever you lose a

:15:49. > :15:54.crowd after a final, it is not easy because things change. Doors open,

:15:55. > :15:58.the air changes. A little bit of atmospheric pressure is different.

:15:59. > :16:14.This looks better. It looks like the winner. Gentle, gentle. Good effort.

:16:15. > :16:20.Well played. Not an easy head this for Nicky. Taking his time on this

:16:21. > :16:28.one. He is tempted to run it. That is what he is playing. It looks

:16:29. > :16:34.under. He is getting there now. Needs a good result. That is a

:16:35. > :16:42.killer. That is a killer of a result. He was on target, in the

:16:43. > :16:53.area. He was really under. Caught the bowl. Apologises. That is a

:16:54. > :16:54.massive thing in a game like this. This is a shocker to recover out of

:16:55. > :17:15.this one. Rightly so, Andy taking his time.

:17:16. > :17:21.Not easy. Probably backhand draw. So little available. Running bowls not

:17:22. > :17:32.available through the gap, so narrow. Working at it in a way,

:17:33. > :17:39.thinking, my goodness me. Is there any thing for him? It is just the

:17:40. > :17:44.perfect draw. He is very undecided, he really is. He has to settle

:17:45. > :17:54.himself down and play the positive shot. I think it is a backhand draw.

:17:55. > :18:00.That is what he is playing, I think. He is reaching with this crazy

:18:01. > :18:05.weight, he won't get back. It is a good effort but you will miss it

:18:06. > :18:10.there all day. That is the problem, it has to be absolutely perfect. The

:18:11. > :18:19.line was good, but it shows you what can happen. You are on a good game.

:18:20. > :18:23.A little bit of luck has gone Nick's way with Andrew giving away two

:18:24. > :18:31.shots, but that was massive. A big result for Nicky. Possibility of

:18:32. > :18:39.scoring three. Regardless, two will put him in the driving seat. He will

:18:40. > :18:44.be happy with two. Will he ever. Out of that end. He will be delighted.

:18:45. > :18:50.Nick will always turn around and acknowledge fortuitous results. He

:18:51. > :18:57.knows himself the impact that bowl would have had. I think he is

:18:58. > :19:02.speaking to Andy and I am sure they are discussing the third. He was in

:19:03. > :19:10.the area, I agree. He got a good result. That is the best way to

:19:11. > :19:16.describe it. It was a key moment. Big, big. Favourite take opening

:19:17. > :19:56.set, is Nicky. Andy has to try to manufacture a

:19:57. > :20:01.three. He has to make sure he is reaching with all bowls. The first

:20:02. > :20:09.bomb dropped by. Making it harder to score three. Even a yard through

:20:10. > :20:50.would have given him a chance. He would have been hopeful his first

:20:51. > :20:57.one was going into that position. It gives him something to work with.

:20:58. > :21:03.Yes, it does. Not all lost. A chance for a three. He will be trying to

:21:04. > :21:11.close the head down. Tried to get his own bowl on the inside to get a

:21:12. > :21:16.red and then the jack. He will have to do something with this bowl.

:21:17. > :21:23.Change the head slightly. As long as this is passed, it gives him a

:21:24. > :21:28.chance. He will have to hurry. Oh, dear. If that is short, it is

:21:29. > :21:36.impossible. Well, I don't see anything for him now. Very difficult

:21:37. > :21:40.now for Andy to score a three. I wouldn't be surprised if it tries to

:21:41. > :22:01.change his hand to spread them a little bit. Sticking with it.

:22:02. > :22:07.That is just about everything covered. There is a shot inside but

:22:08. > :22:16.I do not think he can generate the weight to get the two bowls out and

:22:17. > :22:22.stay. I think it is impossible. I don't think there is a three here.

:22:23. > :22:28.It is just going to be the first set quite simply to Nicky Brett. He is

:22:29. > :22:34.under. Hard shot. He had to try it but hard shot.

:22:35. > :22:43.Ted - five scoreline in the first set to Nick Brett. That is a

:22:44. > :22:51.flattering scoreline, it is fair to save. One of two big ends. The

:22:52. > :23:03.penultimate end, Nicky scoring the double.

:23:04. > :23:14.Fine margins is what we say all the time. On another day, it goes

:23:15. > :23:21.against you, so you take it while you can because you never know when

:23:22. > :23:29.it will bite back. Nicky will be happy. To the opening set, which you

:23:30. > :23:30.always want to do against the unseeded player. Puts you in the

:23:31. > :24:32.driving seat. A bit short again. slightly short of length this time.

:24:33. > :24:38.The little dots are a metre apart so he can tell roughly jack length is

:24:39. > :24:43.in terms of distance. That is what the officials use. That has framed

:24:44. > :24:52.it now. This is too tempting for Nicky. Yes. He is under. Again he

:24:53. > :24:59.has got something out of it and to be honest, that is not bad for Andy

:25:00. > :25:05.Kyle. Again, a chance for Andy to add another. He has played a good

:25:06. > :25:07.end. Nicky is shaking his head. He was always under with that runner.

:25:08. > :25:27.Again he got something out of it. Second shot coming in but he will

:25:28. > :25:34.frame it. Damage limitation. Take one out, jack through. Should be

:25:35. > :25:40.closer with this. There it goes. I don't think he has got a great

:25:41. > :25:47.result. It will go under the respot but I do not think he will be any

:25:48. > :25:56.worse off. The touching bowl, so that will be marked. Stays live in

:25:57. > :26:06.the ditch. Certainly one green. You can see the red bowl. It has been

:26:07. > :26:12.marked as a toucher. Could be two green so a big chance for Andy to

:26:13. > :26:23.score a treble. I would put you down to score another one here. Two

:26:24. > :26:27.yards! What do you think? LAUGHTER Will stop you are not answering.

:26:28. > :26:37.Are you not talking to me? I am trying to work out how he will get

:26:38. > :26:44.it right. Another three, I think. It shows that it can work against you

:26:45. > :26:50.as well. Two. Not the best result for Nick. He hit the target. Got a

:26:51. > :26:56.bad result. It is a silly old game! Sometimes it goes for you, sometimes

:26:57. > :27:04.it doesn't. A good start from Andrew. He played a good end. I only

:27:05. > :27:10.phone you when I have something to say. You know that. I do not like to

:27:11. > :27:17.text you too much because I know you can't read them! Needed to start

:27:18. > :27:32.with a good opening set. Played it well.

:27:33. > :27:44.Andy is a service manager for a multi franchise car dealership in

:27:45. > :27:53.Belfast. I was up there one day and got a chance to have a run out in

:27:54. > :27:58.one of the cars. Mega fast. Fiat 500, it was great! Felt like a

:27:59. > :28:03.teenager. Speeding away, where you? Within the limits, of course.

:28:04. > :28:14.I was glad to get back to my sensible, more comfortable car.

:28:15. > :28:33.You like your cars. Indeed. Sadly, I am a petrol head. Well, Nicky, two

:28:34. > :28:38.feet of your last delivery. Just needs to drop this town and here it

:28:39. > :28:56.comes. Will it make the trip? Not quite centre rink.

:28:57. > :29:02.Andy has turned his back on this one.

:29:03. > :29:26.Will he hold? No, he is well under. A chance here.

:29:27. > :29:51.Gentle, gentle. Does not want to get to the jack too quickly. That is a

:29:52. > :29:56.very good bowl. Nicky tempted here because there is a squeeze through

:29:57. > :30:00.of the red. He does not hesitate in playing the quick bowl. He has not

:30:01. > :30:10.even travelled up the green to look at the head. Well, I think he has

:30:11. > :30:17.possibly got the shot. Good bowl. Yes, he got the results. It is

:30:18. > :30:21.swings and roundabouts. He was in the area and got a nice bounce of

:30:22. > :30:32.the jack. The other side of the coin was he could've got three or four.

:30:33. > :30:33.Yes. In the area. Just very rare that Nick misses things that

:30:34. > :32:13.distance. Andy just looking to add 15 inches

:32:14. > :32:18.on his previous delivery. Trying to secure a good second shot and

:32:19. > :32:21.anything deep will give him chances. Just past it coming home. Making

:32:22. > :32:42.sure he was arriving that time. Close here. Got a chance with this

:32:43. > :32:56.one. Doesn't want to push it too much. He's tucked it away, made it

:32:57. > :33:00.harder for Andy. Three shots. Might have to follow that, though think

:33:01. > :33:12.he's got much of a choice. This is awkward. Sticking to the draw and

:33:13. > :33:18.the wider line. This isn't easy. Looks to be cutting, going to have

:33:19. > :33:27.to get the inside road now. Just needed a little bit more. Not bad.

:33:28. > :33:31.Still two down. Two down and took one off but another bowl in hand,

:33:32. > :33:43.the next one will be a bit aggressive. I think so. Nicky needs

:33:44. > :33:49.another one in here. Looks good with this. Short bowl almost coming in.

:33:50. > :33:59.That forces the issue now. Forward runner from Andy. These are the hard

:34:00. > :34:05.shots now. There are lots of chances, bowls to come in. Get a

:34:06. > :34:15.result even if Nicky Short bowls. I'm sure this will be the forehand

:34:16. > :34:25.runner. I wrote called. -- time-out called.

:34:26. > :34:38.This will not be easy. He forced into it. Can't see him being any

:34:39. > :34:42.worse off. Make sure that he is positive, really positive. I think

:34:43. > :34:49.years, putting this the right way. He's got a chance. He's very

:34:50. > :34:53.unlucky. He's very unlucky because he was coming in the right

:34:54. > :34:56.direction, not going away from him and he still losing three.

:34:57. > :35:12.Absolutely horrible. 4-2 after three ends. Good end for

:35:13. > :35:19.Nicky, played it well. When you play a bowl you know is going away from

:35:20. > :35:25.the head and you hit something, you want to get something on the way.

:35:26. > :35:30.Sometimes if it's your day you catch the jack full. Unfortunately in

:35:31. > :35:37.Andy's case he sliced the jackpot wasn't far away. -- sliced the jack

:35:38. > :36:30.but wasn't far away. He's making Nick Brett work for

:36:31. > :36:39.this. Said is. Played well, Andy, played steady. Apart from two

:36:40. > :36:40.unfortunate results he could be in a healthier position. Has stuck with

:36:41. > :37:02.him well. Close again. Very good. I think Nick

:37:03. > :37:10.will be attacking this. Confidence in the running ball. Often preferred

:37:11. > :37:18.the forehand runner but he's never far away with any running ball.

:37:19. > :37:24.Looks high. That's a bad result. As far away as I've seen him actually.

:37:25. > :37:30.With his running bowl so far. Nicky in a bit of trouble, just one ball

:37:31. > :37:38.at the head that's four feet short. Chance for Andy to add a third here.

:37:39. > :37:45.Nick trotting up and down as he always does. Number three coming in,

:37:46. > :37:52.wants to miss the green. It's not bad because it's behind the jack,

:37:53. > :38:01.certainly didn't want to stay beside it. Problems, problems. What's he

:38:02. > :38:07.going to do? Backhand? Damage limitation, take two out. He could

:38:08. > :38:13.draw it but it's hard. Backhand with weight, needs to hold the ball

:38:14. > :38:22.nicely. Percentage shot, needs to hold. Is Nicky's ball going to stay

:38:23. > :38:30.on the green? He's hoping it is. I bet he is. Certainly one down. He's

:38:31. > :38:37.OK, within the confines. If that ball went another couple of turns he

:38:38. > :38:42.was quick to be four down. The ball at the top of the screen has just

:38:43. > :38:49.stayed in the rink. Just one to Andy Kyle. Plenty of room to draw

:38:50. > :38:56.another. Nick was rated into the middle of that. It was a good hit

:38:57. > :38:57.but just the way it broke away. Nicky was the down, probably going

:38:58. > :39:17.to end up losing two. Played it well. Well, took that one

:39:18. > :39:25.away quick. Did they take the third shot away? They did, Nicky took it

:39:26. > :39:31.away. If that's the case he had a horrible result was the opening

:39:32. > :39:35.bowl. Absolutely horrible because it was a good bowl them this time he

:39:36. > :39:39.got a bad result. But the second bowl out of it. This is for four.

:39:40. > :40:05.Looks like it. Dan McManus sorted that out, just

:40:06. > :40:06.touches the red bowl and says that's the next shot. APPLAUSE

:40:07. > :40:11.. First time we've had the double Dans

:40:12. > :40:27.out. Will, it's fair to say that the lack

:40:28. > :40:32.and the rubs have started to even out about all that in this match.

:40:33. > :40:38.That was a bad result. Yes, Nicky hit the target. More about the

:40:39. > :40:45.timing sometimes. The ball onto the jack a bit unlucky. I think Andy

:40:46. > :40:46.Kyle probably deserves to be keeping this set tight. Hasn't played badly

:40:47. > :40:58.at all. Not many games have got as much

:40:59. > :41:10.fortune and unlucky results in the match. Quite a few in this one.

:41:11. > :41:14.Moving to the red button to continue this game in a few minutes, so

:41:15. > :41:53.please get ready for that. Just the wrong side of the road bowl

:41:54. > :42:02.with that one and Nick will be looking to add another. -- the red

:42:03. > :42:05.bowl. Nicky's opening bowl a foot short, so room to grow another. --

:42:06. > :42:15.draw another. Still no need for Andy to change.

:42:16. > :42:21.It's a useful bowl but it's not going to do much. Was looking to

:42:22. > :42:33.draw another one. Just a draw for Andy, got a foot to draw the shot.

:42:34. > :42:39.This looks very close. All about weight can he get it back. A few

:42:40. > :42:57.falls in he may have the shot. Just needs to drop in after

:42:58. > :43:19.adjusting the wait. might change hands now, use that as

:43:20. > :43:24.a shoulder. Andy Kyle with the last bowl in this and trying to change

:43:25. > :43:45.onto the backhand. Drop off the ball and get the shot.
