0:00:33 > 0:00:40Hello and welcome to the east coast of England for the 40th edition of

0:00:40 > 0:00:49the world Indoor Bowls Championship. It is the 20th time it has been held

0:00:49 > 0:01:00at the Potters Resort. Today it is semi-final days.# I'm so excited

0:01:00 > 0:01:07and I just can't hide it. # I'm about to lose control and I think I

0:01:07 > 0:01:18like it!Can he fall in? Yes, that was an amazing last bowl.It is

0:01:18 > 0:01:25Oliver, the youngest ever world singles champion. No it is not a

0:01:25 > 0:01:29kangaroo!He is going to strike that bowl off for the Championship. Got

0:01:29 > 0:01:36it!

0:01:38 > 0:01:40. Paul Foster.

0:01:47 > 0:01:57# I'm so excited! # I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!

0:01:57 > 0:02:03# I'm so excited. So many great players, so many great memories. But

0:02:03 > 0:02:09it is time for a new chapter as we look ahead to today's semi-finals

0:02:09 > 0:02:15here are the four players left with a chance of getting their hands on

0:02:15 > 0:02:18the most coveted trophy in the sport.

0:02:27 > 0:02:33Let's start with the first semi-final, which took place this

0:02:33 > 0:02:41morning when Darren Burnett squared off against the Mark Dawes. In their

0:02:41 > 0:02:46three previous meetings, Dawes had won each time against Burnett.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Dawes had already progressed further than he had done before in the

0:02:53 > 0:02:58world's singles. Bettering his Round 2 loss in 2016 and he got off to the

0:02:58 > 0:03:05fastest start. This for a double and a 4-1 lead. Burnett clawed his way

0:03:05 > 0:03:11back. With Dawes lying 2, Burnett had no choice but to take on this

0:03:11 > 0:03:16drive with his last. But he only managed to increase the damage and

0:03:16 > 0:03:20lost the triple. Burnett couldn't save the first set and his woes were

0:03:20 > 0:03:26getting worse in the second as he started to show signs of a back

0:03:26 > 0:03:31problem. Dawes was in commanding form, winning four ends in a troe

0:03:31 > 0:03:38build a very healthy 7-2 lead, including this in the 5th after

0:03:38 > 0:03:44Burnett was threatening a fight back. Just when Burnett looked to be

0:03:44 > 0:03:51down and out, he produced the shot of the match to gie himself hope. --

0:03:51 > 0:03:57give himself hope. And the door had been opened. Dawes slammed it shut

0:03:57 > 0:04:03again. Two beautiful shots put him in an unassailable position. He goes

0:04:03 > 0:04:07through to his second final of the week and the chance to add the world

0:04:07 > 0:04:15singles title to the pairs he won with Jamie Chestney on Monday. Mark

0:04:15 > 0:04:21Dawes has had a great week and is looking for a first ever final. This

0:04:21 > 0:04:27afternoon we have Robert Paxson and Wayne Willgress still to come. John

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Pryce with is me.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Wayne Willgress still to come. John Pryce with is me. Some people may

0:04:31 > 0:04:38know this week you were sweet on the chances of Mark Dawes.Yes, I

0:04:38 > 0:04:42fancied him, he is playing well and he is playing good running bowls and

0:04:42 > 0:04:47sometimes you get a feel for a player.People who have watched this

0:04:47 > 0:04:52match may not realise he has played like that since he arrived here.Yes

0:04:52 > 0:04:56his form is good. He looks confident, mature and he is doing

0:04:56 > 0:05:04well.You say confident and mature, because he has always had the

0:05:04 > 0:05:09talent, up stairs are where things have changed.Yes he feels at home

0:05:09 > 0:05:14on the rink, the surroundings are good and he is in good shape.I

0:05:14 > 0:05:18mentioned that Darren Burnett had a back injury and also after the match

0:05:18 > 0:05:24I spoke to Mark and he said sometimes that can be awkward to

0:05:24 > 0:05:30deal with.Yes a back injury is difficult. He didn't make an excuse.

0:05:30 > 0:05:37But you could see he was in pain. For Mark you're keeping an eye on

0:05:37 > 0:05:42the other person.Yes, Mark just played his own game. You have to

0:05:42 > 0:05:47shut that off and did the professional job.Now let's switch

0:05:47 > 0:05:52to the second semi-final to find out who Mark will play tomorrow. This is

0:05:52 > 0:06:00the route that Robert Paxton and Wayne Willgress have had.

0:06:10 > 0:06:12Yesterday, Wayne was involved in up with of the most extraordinary

0:06:12 > 0:06:19matches we have seen here at potters. Dope Deep into the second

0:06:19 > 0:06:22set he looked down and out.

0:06:22 > 0:06:25potters. Dope Deep into the second set he looked down and out.

0:06:25 > 0:06:29COMMENTATOR: The Wayne fan club down there, but unfortunately today there

0:06:29 > 0:06:33hasn't been a lot to shout about. If you're not playing well, you might

0:06:33 > 0:06:38as well not be there, they can't cheer anything when I'm playing all

0:06:38 > 0:06:42over. Once you start putting things close, they get involved and that is

0:06:42 > 0:06:47the killer.

0:06:52 > 0:06:59The wildcard needs a miracle.I had given up. He is the best players.

0:06:59 > 0:07:12Here he goes. Has he missed it? It is going to get there. Surely he

0:07:12 > 0:07:18will draw this time.He had five foot to kill me.He is edgy.I don't

0:07:18 > 0:07:25believe it, he is short. I don't believe it.Somehow he didn't. Even

0:07:25 > 0:07:32the best feel the pressure I guess. It is game on now. Tie-break.He has

0:07:32 > 0:07:42got it.The jack's gone.I can't say at any point I thought I was going

0:07:42 > 0:07:49to win.A slight touch.I felt the odd bowl was good. But under the

0:07:49 > 0:07:53circumstances that has to be the best bowl and the bowl to win.Such

0:07:53 > 0:08:01a difficult shot.This is very close to it.Oh, he has played it.I'm

0:08:01 > 0:08:06living the dream at the minute and I think I have got to keep living and

0:08:06 > 0:08:09keep going and playing bowls at the right time and trying to forget

0:08:09 > 0:08:13everything else going on around me. Work whatever else. You have got to

0:08:13 > 0:08:18focus on the bowls and give it your all and cross your fingers. Good

0:08:18 > 0:08:25player. Got a good all round year. He is one of men to beat. He knows

0:08:25 > 0:08:32how to win. Good player.Semis is always one of the best games, but it

0:08:32 > 0:08:37is the hardest one to lose. You're so close to the final. It is

0:08:37 > 0:08:41heartbreak. Playing Wayne, he has the wildcard here, but he is a world

0:08:41 > 0:08:48semi-finalist. He has deserved his place here. So I have got to respect

0:08:48 > 0:08:52the way he plays. That is why he is in the competition still. I have got

0:08:52 > 0:08:57to try and put him under pressure and hopefully that is enough today.

0:08:57 > 0:09:03It is the biggest title you can win in bowls, coming here is what every

0:09:03 > 0:09:09player wants to do.A very excited atmosphere in here, because Wayne

0:09:09 > 0:09:13Willgress has caused a stir with his support and his two come back

0:09:13 > 0:09:15victories.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19support and his two come back victories.Amazing finish yesterday.

0:09:19 > 0:09:23Greg thought he was over the line. Wayne will think he got out of jail.

0:09:23 > 0:09:28He took the opportunity in the tie-break.Wayne should be playing a

0:09:28 > 0:09:34county league match today.I have a feeling he won't make that.

0:09:34 > 0:09:39Yesterday, he was very emotional. How difficult is it to get back down

0:09:39 > 0:09:43from that to get yourself up for that.Today he will look at it. Half

0:09:43 > 0:09:47way through game yesterday he had no chance. He is here now and I think

0:09:47 > 0:09:52he will be up for this.So will Robert Paxton. He has that steely

0:09:52 > 0:09:57determination?Yes he will want to win. He has lost a time before. He

0:09:57 > 0:10:01is on a roll and he will feel confident and he is the favourite.

0:10:01 > 0:10:06Can you see Wayne Willgress doing something like this again?Very

0:10:06 > 0:10:17possibly. It is a 50/50 game. World semi, crowd behind him. It is 50/50.

0:10:19 > 0:10:24MC Richard Bear is standing by.A warm good afternoon to you. Like the

0:10:24 > 0:10:29song at the top of today's programme, we're all so excited. Who

0:10:29 > 0:10:33is going to go through and face Mark Dawes tomorrow? We are about to find

0:10:33 > 0:10:39out. First of all, what an amazing tournament this local qualifier is

0:10:39 > 0:10:45having after taking out the world No 1 Greg Harlow to earn himself in

0:10:45 > 0:10:52this semi-final. The question is - can he now go all the way. Ladies

0:10:52 > 0:10:59and gentlemen, Wayne Willgress.

0:10:59 > 0:11:09CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

0:11:18 > 0:11:27And this world No 6 has had a fruitful few seasons. The 2016 world

0:11:27 > 0:11:31indoor singles finalist and former Scottish International Open

0:11:31 > 0:11:38champion, your appreciation play for Robert Paxton.

0:11:40 > 0:11:45CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

0:11:53 > 0:12:02There is a fantastic atmosphere. You can have your way on Twitter. Let's

0:12:02 > 0:12:10join John Price and David Corkhill.

0:12:10 > 0:12:15COMMENTATOR: What an exciting moment for this young man. Given a wildcard

0:12:15 > 0:12:23on the back of some very good performances. My goodness me what an

0:12:23 > 0:12:29upset he has caused this year. Match after match against world champions.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31They have been dispatched.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44Against Stuart Anderson he played well the whole match and still had

0:12:44 > 0:12:49to come through with big scores towards the end. Stuart looked to be

0:12:49 > 0:12:52in control.

0:12:54 > 0:13:00It is fair to say, John, Greg Harlow looked to be in control for most of

0:13:00 > 0:13:08his game until the last end of the second set.Yes, definitely Greg

0:13:08 > 0:13:16will feel that very difficult to say what he did wrong. He played well. A

0:13:16 > 0:13:25problem with line and length just fell away.He settles down into this

0:13:25 > 0:13:31backhand, trying to drop a bit of the width. Try and get the ball back

0:13:31 > 0:13:37inside. Be interesting just to see how it goes with regards to getting

0:13:37 > 0:13:42off the line a bit quicker. I think he knows that he needs to get out

0:13:42 > 0:13:46the blocks better. Because this man's a very determined player,

0:13:46 > 0:13:48Robert Paxton.

0:13:58 > 0:14:05Just over the line.

0:14:09 > 0:14:18A bit of a wins, he wasn't sure. -- wince.

0:14:18 > 0:14:25Starting to come now. That is good bowling. There is a lot of support

0:14:25 > 0:14:31out there for the local man, Willgress. Robert Paxton would

0:14:31 > 0:14:38normally play into this with weight.

0:14:48 > 0:14:53It is a struggle on this. I thought he might have played that as a bit

0:14:53 > 0:15:03of runner.Didn't expect him not to reach.

0:15:11 > 0:15:16Wayne moving to the forehand to try and cover the red balls. He wants to

0:15:16 > 0:15:28get in front of him if he can. And he has. Two shots first there.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36Still expect Robert to get at least second.

0:15:40 > 0:15:44Very close, Robert Paxton. Very close. He is going to draw the No 1

0:15:44 > 0:15:54with this. It is a great recovery bowl. He managed to get the shot.He

0:15:54 > 0:15:57did that on the first end.

0:16:25 > 0:16:29REFEREE: Jack length 29 and a half metres.

0:16:39 > 0:16:45These matches over 9 ends. The first two sets. That will extend to 11 in

0:16:45 > 0:16:52the final. A tee-break if needed. There is no accumulated shots. You

0:16:52 > 0:16:57can lose by 12 nil and win the next one by one shot and still go in

0:16:57 > 0:17:02level. Too many battles really.

0:17:05 > 0:17:12Ball of Wayne Estry 's going to be cheered.

0:17:36 > 0:17:50REFEREE: 10 inch gap.The ball's five inch diameter, so ten inches -

0:17:50 > 0:17:59plenty of room. He will probably pull through this.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02Not the best bowl.

0:18:15 > 0:18:22Paxton third bowl. Struggling with that as well. He is going to be

0:18:22 > 0:18:29looking for another recovery bowl. The last bowl.He hasn't started

0:18:29 > 0:18:31well.

0:18:35 > 0:18:42Another good chaps for Wayne Willgress.-- chance.

0:18:49 > 0:18:53CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

0:18:53 > 0:18:58He got through that by a foot. Those folks are out to enjoy themselves

0:18:58 > 0:19:02today.

0:19:13 > 0:19:18Well, he is on a line. All about weight from there. He has done it

0:19:18 > 0:19:26again.Two big last bowls. The crowd react to that. It was a superb

0:19:26 > 0:19:31delivery. But he want to dipping too much into that well of good bowls.

0:19:31 > 0:19:39He wants to be on the front foot and not playing recovery all the time.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52Rebecca Field, Wayne Willgress's partner.He is looking for the bowl,

0:19:52 > 0:19:56he must be able to see it.

0:20:01 > 0:20:06It is two 3s that have been snatched off him by Robert Paxton's last

0:20:06 > 0:20:10bowls.

0:20:19 > 0:20:26It is typical of a true champion, you get outplayed in the two ends,

0:20:26 > 0:20:32you get in many ways, you weather the storm to get in front and hope

0:20:32 > 0:20:37that your own general play at the first two deliveries gets better. He

0:20:37 > 0:20:43found a good bowl the last delivery on both ends. That scoreboard could

0:20:43 > 0:20:48have looked a lot worse. Although he will need to get in with the fist

0:20:48 > 0:20:58two bowls. Wayne has started better today than he did yesterday.

0:21:00 > 0:21:08Better start by Rob Paxton.

0:21:49 > 0:21:59Looks a lot more like it from Robert.

0:22:12 > 0:22:18You could hear them shouting hurry there from about four yards away.

0:22:18 > 0:22:23Yes, they were urging that ball in. Always looked good. Just about made

0:22:23 > 0:22:27it in the end.

0:22:36 > 0:22:41Robert, worth playing into this. He has the front bowls to hit to take

0:22:41 > 0:22:54the green bowl out.Under it.

0:22:55 > 0:23:01I wonder about Wayne. He needs a deep bowl. He will play for that

0:23:01 > 0:23:06plant again. He could do worse than play the forehand, try and tuck his

0:23:06 > 0:23:11own bowl in. That reduces the target. If he misses that, then he

0:23:11 > 0:23:17gets into his second position - deep.

0:23:17 > 0:23:27That is what he's playing.That is a good bowl. That really is a good

0:23:27 > 0:23:36bowl for lots of reason, because it also stops the

0:23:36 > 0:23:41also stops the red ball coming through. Only one shot in this.

0:23:41 > 0:23:45Could be dangerous for Robert Paxton to attack it.

0:23:51 > 0:23:55On the backhand just trying to draw in.

0:23:56 > 0:24:06No position deep of the jack. Now, Wayne, can you just play something

0:24:06 > 0:24:12similar, tap your bowl or get inside the jack for 3?

0:24:34 > 0:24:40A bit of work to get back inside. But he might get his own. Oh, that

0:24:40 > 0:24:45was the right idea.

0:24:45 > 0:24:51was the right idea.REFEREE: One shot, Wayne Willgress.

0:24:52 > 0:24:55shot, Wayne Willgress. Set score 2-1 after three ends.

0:25:03 > 0:25:08Will he has seen the shots. That is the thing. He is able to see the

0:25:08 > 0:25:13shots and identify them early.

0:25:19 > 0:25:29REFEREE: Jack length 27 and a half metres.

0:25:47 > 0:25:52Great to have the home support. No doubt about that. But with that come

0:25:52 > 0:25:59ascertain level of expectation. It is not always easy.

0:26:05 > 0:26:14APPLAUSE.

0:26:14 > 0:26:20A very good opener from Paxton. That is the sort of bowl he is looking

0:26:20 > 0:26:31for to put Wayne under a bit of pressure.

0:26:35 > 0:26:41Robert will check the gap here I think. He has been able to see it

0:26:41 > 0:26:46from the monitor at the side of the rink. He gets a good shot of the

0:26:46 > 0:26:51overhead. Three inches away. So he can play this with confidence. He

0:26:51 > 0:26:57can afford to reach it. Had it been an inch away it would have been

0:26:57 > 0:27:05dangerous.

0:27:23 > 0:27:31That is a good effort. Good weight again.Yes, a bit of a change in the

0:27:31 > 0:27:34line and we have been getting lots of questions in.

0:27:36 > 0:27:45We have a lot of non--bowlers watching. That is on hashtag BBC

0:27:45 > 0:27:50bowls if you need to know anything. Patch it through to us and we will

0:27:50 > 0:27:54do your best to answer your questions. You know, you will get

0:27:54 > 0:27:59the hard ones, John, so that's OK. That is typical of you. Passing the

0:27:59 > 0:28:05buck.I have got the rule book, but I have to pass it on to you. He has

0:28:05 > 0:28:10got that.

0:28:14 > 0:28:18He stayed central there. No catch there for Wayne.

0:28:27 > 0:28:33I think we don't need to know this one's going to miss the way he threw

0:28:33 > 0:28:42his cloth up! I think it's very close. There we go. Body language

0:28:42 > 0:28:48said, I missed it. Look at the reaction of the crowd! The body

0:28:48 > 0:28:54language, the cloth in the air said everything about that bowl - I have

0:28:54 > 0:28:59missed it by a margin and he draws the shot around the corner! Oh dear,

0:28:59 > 0:29:04oh dear. A bit of a worry if he didn't know it was close.Doesn't

0:29:04 > 0:29:09matter if he gets a result like that every time. Somebody up stairs is

0:29:09 > 0:29:12looking after him.

0:29:22 > 0:29:26Robert how close are you to this jack? Doesn't need the bowl. Oh,

0:29:26 > 0:29:35well... Hmm! One to red.

0:29:48 > 0:29:53It has been exciting already for lots of different reasons. You have

0:29:53 > 0:30:00got to say that any game with Wayne, something's going to happen! It is

0:30:00 > 0:30:05highly entertaining. The crowd with him or not, he is just highly

0:30:05 > 0:30:10entertaining the way he plays the game.REFEREE: Jack length 29

0:30:10 > 0:30:12metres.

0:30:28 > 0:30:36Bowles is a very big sport for young people. They roll mat out and pay

0:30:36 > 0:30:51bowls on it. In halls and gymnasiums. In parts of Wales, the

0:30:51 > 0:30:58short mat is very popular.Massive in Northern Ireland.Tens of

0:30:58 > 0:31:08thousands.My own club in Belfast would post some of their events. My

0:31:08 > 0:31:16goodness me, they'd turn up in their droves. Especially the young ones. A

0:31:16 > 0:31:22good introduction to playing through onto the longer mat and also on the

0:31:22 > 0:31:29outdoor. But they have their own representative. The teams at

0:31:29 > 0:31:37international level. Robert getting in there, the first two bowls. Just

0:31:37 > 0:31:43signs of Robert coming into playing a good game. He is 3-1 in front when

0:31:43 > 0:31:49he is doing it.He weathered the storm in the first two ends. Some

0:31:49 > 0:31:56good carry by Wayne. It just ran away. Bit of excitement in the

0:31:56 > 0:32:06crowd. The bowl dropped back.Robert will see if he can turn the jack

0:32:06 > 0:32:18around the corner and consolidate the position.

0:32:18 > 0:32:23the position. He is making the gap. What a place he is going to! That is

0:32:23 > 0:32:28very good will

0:32:30 > 0:32:34very good will stopHe played with very good weight. Did not get the

0:32:34 > 0:32:42jack. He is finishing in a very good place.

0:32:47 > 0:32:58Can he run? That was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. That is so

0:32:58 > 0:33:03hard to do.

0:33:07 > 0:33:12hard to do. This is a long jack. Incredible accuracy in delivering

0:33:12 > 0:33:21these bowls.

0:33:21 > 0:33:30Now, Robert, can you turn the jack for three or four? Looks under. It

0:33:30 > 0:33:36is under the line. The wait was very good. Just missed the line by a bowl

0:33:36 > 0:33:47or two. We have to be very careful. Now it really would be impressive to

0:33:47 > 0:33:54add another one.He must be a little careful.

0:33:54 > 0:34:06careful. It is going to be a little bit delicate.

0:34:08 > 0:34:14They are asking how this is. He has to be careful. I must say he did

0:34:14 > 0:34:25give it a go.That is a good one to take. A good bowl from Wayne.

0:34:42 > 0:34:48It is a fall house here. We thought this would happen. Always very

0:34:48 > 0:34:52popular in the semifinals but particularly dismantle the PA has

0:34:52 > 0:34:59just about held on to the jack. Drop sit in the ditch and the jack goes

0:34:59 > 0:35:08back. The opposition gets the chance to deliver it to his length. --

0:35:08 > 0:35:09drops it in the ditch.

0:36:07 > 0:36:16This looks good. He has made the adjustment.

0:36:18 > 0:36:23They young supporters from his local club in Norfolk. They are here to

0:36:23 > 0:36:30enjoy themselves, aren't they?He needs to play plenty of good bowls.

0:36:30 > 0:36:35Get the crowd worked up. A noisy crowd went get them on his side.

0:36:35 > 0:36:44That was a good effort by Robert. Just past. He has that advantage. He

0:36:44 > 0:36:52can play really well. Worth another five shots I would think.

0:36:53 > 0:36:55five shots I would think. It is within seven inches of the jack and

0:36:55 > 0:37:02it barely got a murmur. It is a tough crowd out there, isn't it?

0:37:02 > 0:37:09Wayne on the forehand again trying to get to the rent, if you can.

0:37:09 > 0:37:22Gentle, gentle. That is a good bowl. Again, the bowls of finding centre

0:37:22 > 0:37:28rink and picking out the line very well. The line is affected in many

0:37:28 > 0:37:32different ways. Players go looking for sight lines. That is where you

0:37:32 > 0:37:40stand on Burnham mat. It has a massive effect on how a bowl is

0:37:40 > 0:37:47going to bend. -- stand on the mat. Inside line, a little bit of weight.

0:37:47 > 0:37:54He needs to be lucky. Oh, he is. Oh, dear, oh dear four. That was a long

0:37:54 > 0:38:00way away for him to be hitting.

0:38:01 > 0:38:05way away for him to be hitting.Very fortunate then, Robert. A bit of

0:38:05 > 0:38:11movement on the jack.

0:38:12 > 0:38:15movement on the jack.Well, acknowledgement to the opposition.

0:38:15 > 0:38:23Always good to see. It is not particularly easy.He could play it

0:38:23 > 0:38:31on to his own bowl. He can trail the jack. 40 yards or so.He is looking

0:38:31 > 0:38:36at it. There is danger if he wings off the bowl on the inside. Offers

0:38:36 > 0:38:42up a chance for a three foot at the moment he is only one down. Does not

0:38:42 > 0:38:47want to be losing three shots in the middle of the set.He has the open

0:38:47 > 0:38:54draw. That is what he will play. He is forcing it off the forehand. This

0:38:54 > 0:39:03is risky, really risky. He might have got away with it.Only to the

0:39:03 > 0:39:10point where it was the single. It has gone off the rink.I didn't

0:39:10 > 0:39:16think he would have played that quite as firmly as that. A bit more

0:39:16 > 0:39:22control and he could easily have got the jack on the backhand side. If he

0:39:22 > 0:39:29drops a single it would not be too bad.Over 26 and a half metres,

0:39:29 > 0:39:43Roberts will be able to draw this without too much trouble. -- Robert.

0:39:46 > 0:39:571-shot, Robert Paxton. That was not close but it was enough.

0:39:57 > 0:40:00close but it was enough. Single shots all the way. A tight game, we

0:40:00 > 0:40:09thought it might be very tight. Paxton being two in front, he will

0:40:09 > 0:40:16be delighted considering how the first set has been going.

0:40:18 > 0:40:20first set has been going. Both players will play an aggressive

0:40:20 > 0:40:27game. Quite prepared

0:40:27 > 0:40:32game. Quite prepared to play weight on the second bowl if they need to.

0:40:32 > 0:40:36A few fireworks. They are both aggressive players and will go

0:40:36 > 0:40:42forward different kinds of shops.

0:40:44 > 0:40:52forward different kinds of shops. -- and will go for different kinds of

0:40:54 > 0:40:59shots.

0:41:10 > 0:41:16That is OK at the moment. Robert Paxton is two shots in front and he

0:41:16 > 0:41:25is playing well enough. If you are three, four shots down, things start

0:41:25 > 0:41:28to go wrong, all of a sudden there could be a major influence in the

0:41:28 > 0:41:36match.

0:41:36 > 0:41:44match.He needs to chop back off the red.

0:41:45 > 0:41:51red.Robert Paxton is playing good bowls.

0:41:53 > 0:41:59bowls. That is the way to keep home support just a little bits of Jude.

0:41:59 > 0:42:09-- sub

0:42:11 > 0:42:17-- subdued.Needs to come rolling off the back one. A good shoulder.

0:42:17 > 0:42:26He moves the red.

0:43:07 > 0:43:13He can afford to reach this. No point in being short to it. The shot

0:43:13 > 0:43:20against. It needs to hurry. Always under it. That is surprisingly goes

0:43:20 > 0:43:26everything was in his favour to arrive at that.He had a chance to

0:43:26 > 0:43:29split the green and turn the red bowl away.

0:43:41 > 0:43:45Paxton will play forehand again. A similar shot for him. Drawing into

0:43:45 > 0:43:55the green bowl.

0:43:59 > 0:44:06He is good again. It has just dropped but he is close for another

0:44:06 > 0:44:11one.

0:44:19 > 0:44:26Francis Fletcher is having a look. Red bowl on the jack and every spot.

0:44:26 > 0:44:34I do not think he would be any worse off if he comes under it.He could

0:44:34 > 0:44:44play that.He played the draw on the backhand. That is a tough one.

0:44:45 > 0:44:55backhand. That is a tough one.Looks like his weight. A big drive.

0:44:55 > 0:45:01like his weight. A big drive.A big effort. Good hit.

0:45:07 > 0:45:16Looking at the second...A bit of a fancy for the green but not a lot in

0:45:16 > 0:45:21it.

0:45:28 > 0:45:35The umpire for this match will sort it out.

0:45:37 > 0:45:43it out. They will give Robert a hard time about that one. Yet his glasses

0:45:43 > 0:45:50out for that one.Has not been eating his carrot stop the players

0:45:50 > 0:45:59are normally very good about looking at measures.

0:47:14 > 0:47:19Most of these matches are taking around 45 minutes. The guys are

0:47:19 > 0:47:25pretty much on schedule for that. They are not messing about. 30

0:47:25 > 0:47:30seconds to play the bowl after your opponent's bowl has been delivered

0:47:30 > 0:47:36and stopped. Keeps moving on.

0:47:37 > 0:47:41and stopped. Keeps moving on.You are right. It is about 45 minutes a

0:47:41 > 0:47:45set normally. A tad longer if you go onto the tie-break.

0:47:52 > 0:48:05This needs to run. Oh, dear. The overcorrection. He took two yards

0:48:05 > 0:48:10off.

0:48:33 > 0:48:44Not too much on the jack.

0:48:52 > 0:48:58Wayne might still play the backhand draw.He prefers this side. He has

0:48:58 > 0:49:03played some really good bowls. We notice this last night when he moved

0:49:03 > 0:49:10across. A slight danger moving forward. Will he get back in time?

0:49:10 > 0:49:20Not quite. He will not want it to go to the last N. Four down. -- the

0:49:20 > 0:49:21last end.

0:49:46 > 0:49:55A similar line to Wayne.Conscious he needs another one in. Trying to

0:49:55 > 0:50:04close the set down.It stops any shot, trying to flick out the red

0:50:04 > 0:50:10bowl. There is a shot on the forehand to drag the jack. He did

0:50:10 > 0:50:15want to switch on to the forehand side were just over the draw. Pull

0:50:15 > 0:50:25the jack.He has to go for the jack to try to get two out of this. The

0:50:25 > 0:50:35only thing he doesn't want to be as short. He needs an edge. Dear me! So

0:50:35 > 0:50:44close. He has moved his own bowl, so he will be looking to see if it is

0:50:44 > 0:50:57one or two. Wow!

0:50:57 > 0:51:01one or two. Wow! All single shots. A big difference when you are lying

0:51:01 > 0:51:12four shots in front. Economic tab the set in your pocket. We have seen

0:51:12 > 0:51:19that with Wayne before. -- you can almost have the set in your pocket.

0:51:19 > 0:51:25He would have taken the start of the match this afternoon when leading

0:51:25 > 0:51:31going into the last. He was expecting a bit of a storm early on.

0:51:31 > 0:51:37It has been a fairly good performance. A bit shaky in the

0:51:37 > 0:51:41first couple of ends but he has settled in well he has control of

0:51:41 > 0:51:47the set will

0:51:52 > 0:52:02the set will -- control of the set. The 29-year-old has been playing in

0:52:02 > 0:52:08this match now for 40 odd minutes and only scored two shots. That is

0:52:08 > 0:52:13not really a reflection on this match whatsoever. I think it would

0:52:13 > 0:52:18have been pretty close to level going into this.Does not fit into

0:52:18 > 0:52:30Wayne's game plan. He likes to camp the last 20, 25 minutes. -- he likes

0:52:30 > 0:52:36to come in the last 20, 25 minutes. He has a cunning plan.

0:52:46 > 0:52:52He has scored three fours against Stuart Anderson. That is not easy to

0:52:52 > 0:53:09do. Just dropping a bit short. Another opportunity to get in.

0:53:11 > 0:53:16Trouble is every single bowl as to be within a foot. Cannot afford to

0:53:16 > 0:53:27make a mistake. Is this going to drop back? Yes, that is number two.

0:53:27 > 0:53:42They won't get excited unless Robert misses this one.

0:53:42 > 0:53:52The Paxton forehand, looking to drop on the back green. If he gets in

0:53:52 > 0:53:58their he will kill it. By Megahey is close. Just needs to get a

0:53:58 > 0:54:04connection. That is it. All the work. Fair play. A really good bowl.

0:54:04 > 0:54:18Well hidden.Very close. It does not really matter about the shot. He

0:54:18 > 0:54:22will just have to put this one in and hope he has something for the

0:54:22 > 0:54:27last bowl.

0:54:28 > 0:54:36last bowl. Once again, quality very high.

0:54:38 > 0:54:42high. That was a decent bowl. If it is going to go anywhere, it will go

0:54:42 > 0:54:53out that side.

0:54:53 > 0:54:58As it stands, Wayne has a real problem to get to the red bowl and

0:54:58 > 0:55:03remove it. Get there on the draw but he will have to have a bit of weight

0:55:03 > 0:55:10to get that way. Not easy to get the bowl to bend.

0:55:11 > 0:55:15bowl to bend. Rob is looking to just get past that. This is a really good

0:55:15 > 0:55:26bowl.A clever bowl. Really good. You could make one, possibly two. No

0:55:26 > 0:55:38chance to get a full house of four. He accepts the way it is.

0:55:41 > 0:55:46He accepts the way it is. The face tells it all.A shake of the head.

0:55:46 > 0:55:53He knows this set has gone. Yet. Just a practice shot. He knew there

0:55:53 > 0:56:01was no chance. Just move on into the second set.

0:56:08 > 0:56:17There was no chance to pick up one shot, never mind four.

0:56:32 > 0:56:38Robert just said, one to green he did not care. He was not concerned,

0:56:38 > 0:56:50was he?Gnome. The set in his pocket. -- no.Also an indication of

0:56:50 > 0:56:58how good a game it has been. It has been really top class stuff.Robert

0:56:58 > 0:57:06did not start well the first two ends. He played two big bowls. That

0:57:06 > 0:57:14Robert Lee won him the set overall. It was that close.

0:57:25 > 0:57:32The first bowls have been getting better and better.

0:57:40 > 0:57:50That was a very good reply by him. He needs to do that and tried to get

0:57:50 > 0:58:00some pressure on him.

0:58:27 > 0:58:33One green. Four inches second bowl.

0:58:47 > 0:58:55Is he trying again? Just needs to run. That was so had he got past the

0:58:55 > 0:59:00red bowl it would have been brilliant. In terms of how close it

0:59:00 > 0:59:06is to the jack, it is very good. With the quality in this game, it

0:59:06 > 0:59:12will be very close with this one.

0:59:42 > 0:59:49He might have just got back the shot.William was a foot away with

0:59:49 > 0:59:57his second bowl. In this sort of game, it is just not enough. Robert

0:59:57 > 1:00:07will get in. Just making it weighed down to seven seconds left. Plenty

1:00:07 > 1:00:15of time. Players do lose the bowl occasionally but it is very rare.

1:00:15 > 1:00:22Will he drop in and get the bend at the end is to mark nearly. Some

1:00:22 > 1:00:36decent place, really is.He will be thinking what to play the next time.

1:00:44 > 1:00:50Going for cover, he is expecting Wayne to play the forehand to push

1:00:50 > 1:00:53the green bowl on to the jack.

1:00:59 > 1:01:06He is short of it. We can play this both sides. The trouble with the

1:01:06 > 1:01:09forehand is if you bowl on to the red, the other red balls still

1:01:09 > 1:01:15score.Might be a better shot off the backhand using his last bowl.

1:01:15 > 1:01:20Gets it solid or he comes off it he could move the jack.He can be more

1:01:20 > 1:01:24aggressive on the backhand. It is down to personal choice and how he

1:01:24 > 1:01:31feels.

1:01:32 > 1:01:40He is going more aggressive. It depends, if that's gone off on to

1:01:40 > 1:01:43the re-spot he is good. If it is held in the ditch he is probably two

1:01:43 > 1:01:51down.It is in the ditch. He thought it was going to run across from the

1:01:51 > 1:01:55ditch and off the rink situation that would have been a re-spot and

1:01:55 > 1:02:01he would have been sitting pretty with one, maybe two. A bit unlucky

1:02:01 > 1:02:06with that one, John.He was hoping when he hit them to plant in front

1:02:06 > 1:02:14the jack would have gone off the back bowl out side ways.

1:02:14 > 1:02:19back bowl out side ways.We are all looking forward to tomorrow's final.

1:02:19 > 1:02:232.30 on BBC Two.

1:02:27 > 1:02:35Of course the winner of this match will play Mark Dawes, a man into his

1:02:35 > 1:02:44first world tour bowls final. Mark Dawes has already picked up one

1:02:44 > 1:02:50title this week - the pairs.

1:02:50 > 1:02:55What a performance that was, John? Yes, he played at the top of his

1:02:55 > 1:02:58game and he will be hoping to do the same tomorrow. I think one of these

1:02:58 > 1:03:03two men will have something to say about that. Whatever happens of

1:03:03 > 1:03:08course we are going to have a new winner, Dave.

1:03:20 > 1:03:24Mark Dawes did play extremely well.

1:04:16 > 1:04:23The problem Wayne's got he has a tendency to play the odd lose end.

1:04:23 > 1:04:27Not losing them big scores. He is not giving him any potential to put

1:04:27 > 1:04:33Robert under pressure. He needs to get Robert out of his comfort zone.

1:04:33 > 1:04:39Yes he has got, not a free run, that would be unfair, but this end's just

1:04:39 > 1:04:44loosened up a bit. The previous ends have been very good.So important

1:04:44 > 1:04:48now to get this bowl close.

1:04:52 > 1:04:59Struggling with this one.

1:04:59 > 1:05:06You don't to be going for the lost bowl heroic stuff. You want to build

1:05:06 > 1:05:14heads. Robert, all round good player, it is not a matter of being

1:05:14 > 1:05:17a front run rp, we have seen him come back from dire situations. But

1:05:17 > 1:05:29he is in a good position here. One set in the bag, two shots up.

1:05:35 > 1:05:42That is enough, no 3.It is a big pressure bowl early in the second

1:05:42 > 1:05:44set.

1:05:51 > 1:05:55He has given this a bit more of a look. Half a chance if he has got

1:05:55 > 1:06:01the run in.Certainly a lot closer. Gentle, gentle on the jack. Oh, he

1:06:01 > 1:06:06has just pushed it into the red bowl. But he has taken two off and

1:06:06 > 1:06:10that is a massive hope. On another day he misses the jack and gets the

1:06:10 > 1:06:16shot.A good save in the end.

1:06:45 > 1:06:52REFEREE: Jack length 29 and a half metres.

1:06:52 > 1:07:01metres.Players are both using the same bowl, same model as well. Big

1:07:01 > 1:07:15bias. Very rarely you see a straight bowl go bendy on these rinks. You

1:07:15 > 1:07:23want something that will bend back. We have had an enquiry from one

1:07:23 > 1:07:29viewer asking about the grip of both players. I think they're both using

1:07:29 > 1:07:33a claw grip, which is the thumb well up the side of the bowl. That is

1:07:33 > 1:07:41more like it. More like Wayne with the first bowl.

1:07:45 > 1:07:54REFEREE: 4 inch gap.The claw grip, just right up on to the little

1:07:54 > 1:08:01dimples. The thumb comes down a bit, known as the cradle grip.

1:08:10 > 1:08:17He has got a little spray because it has moved the jack. If it goes into

1:08:17 > 1:08:23the ditch, it stays there, forms part of the remainder of the end.

1:08:33 > 1:08:39That is another good bowl by Wayne. This is what he needs to do. To do

1:08:39 > 1:08:44this over three or four ends and get more pressure at Robert.

1:09:20 > 1:09:25Better by Rob Paxton. He needed that one.Absolutely. I was looking at

1:09:25 > 1:09:29the picture showing the two bowls. They were both using the same ones,

1:09:29 > 1:09:40but that was taken from elsewhere. Wayne's actually using a different

1:09:40 > 1:09:47manufacture's bowls, but again it is a big bias bowl. Always good to have

1:09:47 > 1:09:56the odd curve ball thrown in there, John.Good again.

1:09:56 > 1:09:58John.Good again. That's getting them going a bit now. That is what

1:09:58 > 1:10:05he needs. He needs to get this coming back. He can feed off the

1:10:05 > 1:10:10energy of the crowd. He said in his interview, you can't expect

1:10:10 > 1:10:13reactions if you're pushing the bowls all around the park. They have

1:10:13 > 1:10:26to be in line.REFEREE: Rob has four time-outs remaining.

1:10:52 > 1:11:03Gone for the hit. One out.Well... If he is on target and hit one.

1:11:28 > 1:11:31The sort of shot that you need to make.

1:11:36 > 1:11:42Get in there.Missed the jack. Yes, he got it. As soon as he missed the

1:11:42 > 1:11:47jack he was good. That is getting them going again now. So Wayne's

1:11:47 > 1:11:53back in the set.

1:12:02 > 1:12:10His first 2 of the match.Just missed the jack. A little touch

1:12:10 > 1:12:26back. Come on, he said, let's get going! Big Wayne's on the march!

1:12:30 > 1:12:36REFEREE: Jack length 27 and a half metres.

1:12:36 > 1:12:41The secret now is to try to play back-to-back ends. If he can get a

1:12:41 > 1:12:51good start to this end, sets him up for a chance.

1:12:55 > 1:12:57APPLAUSE.

1:13:16 > 1:13:23Rob will think if he can just stay ahead. If Wayne gets ahead and the

1:13:23 > 1:13:26crowd gets Ott of their seats he is in trouble. At the moment, he has

1:13:26 > 1:13:30been in the lead the whole way. You're thinking what's going to

1:13:30 > 1:13:34happen if he's chasing it.

1:13:34 > 1:13:39He will do everything he can to just keep ahead of Wayne in this set.

1:13:39 > 1:13:42Keep the momentum.

1:13:48 > 1:13:53Wayne urging that ball forward. Well... It is the sort of bowl you

1:13:53 > 1:13:57need in close. That second bowl, your opponent's missed it with the

1:13:57 > 1:14:01first.

1:14:22 > 1:14:32It has dropped. It will be a lot closer now.

1:14:32 > 1:14:37closer now.REFEREE: About half an inch past jack high.

1:14:41 > 1:14:44He wasn't quite sure.

1:14:52 > 1:14:56Well if he gets into the jack here he is good. Any touch at all would

1:14:56 > 1:15:06be enough. Oh, dear me! So close. Big fast bowls that he is using.

1:15:06 > 1:15:11Just swinging inside the head.

1:15:43 > 1:15:56He needs a very small adjustment, Wayne Willgress.A touch of the jack

1:15:56 > 1:16:01would be a big turn around. One down to three up. They're calling for the

1:16:01 > 1:16:09jack. But he is inside it. Just needed a little bit more weight to

1:16:09 > 1:16:13hold the line.

1:16:23 > 1:16:28I think it will be a very quiet draw from Robert.

1:16:32 > 1:16:35Can't afford any movement on the jack.

1:16:47 > 1:16:58He was being careful. Well, we have had a lot of chats about different

1:16:58 > 1:17:02bowls and players using multiple sets. They all have to be match sets

1:17:02 > 1:17:10of course when you're playing in a singles game. Multiple manufacturers

1:17:10 > 1:17:15and players just play with what they think is right for them. Not unusual

1:17:15 > 1:17:21for players to play with different bowls. Different times of the day.

1:17:21 > 1:17:25The rink does change.

1:17:31 > 1:17:37Of course there is the different weights available, but different

1:17:37 > 1:17:42biases are the key. Both these players while using different

1:17:42 > 1:17:51manufacturers, the profile lines on the he bowls are very similar. Both

1:17:51 > 1:17:56have erred on the wider line bowl.

1:18:54 > 1:19:02He may be tempted.

1:19:02 > 1:19:05He is going to stay on the draw he hopes.

1:19:08 > 1:19:13He is conscious of that jack being slightly off centre. Will he push

1:19:13 > 1:19:17the red bowl directly on to it. He wants to get away from the two reds.

1:19:17 > 1:19:21He has. Different make the length of the jack. But it's still there to

1:19:21 > 1:19:29get the split.Having played that type of bowl, he might favour going

1:19:29 > 1:19:32with more weight next time.

1:19:51 > 1:19:56Robert conscious of the fact that the two bowls can disappear. Getting

1:19:56 > 1:20:08back one and hoping to stop in time. He has to play it, John. His

1:20:08 > 1:20:14instincts will be to play this. He is an aggressive player. The

1:20:14 > 1:20:18alternative is to make a correction just on the draw on the forehand.

1:20:18 > 1:20:22The danger we are a strike bowl he has nothing at the back of the head.

1:20:22 > 1:20:27So he is aware of the fact he has no position. He is persevering on the

1:20:27 > 1:20:29draw.

1:20:33 > 1:20:39Given it some try too. Any edge on the jack. That is the probably

1:20:39 > 1:20:42you're just carrying a couple of feet of weight and struggles to get

1:20:42 > 1:20:49down.He reckoned he had that. That has created a real big problem for

1:20:49 > 1:20:57him now.

1:20:59 > 1:21:06No position really, John, and... Well a good bowl from Robert. : He

1:21:06 > 1:21:11doesn't want to leave anything to the side. Inside the green at sort

1:21:11 > 1:21:15of 2 o'clock wouldn't be a wide bowl. He would like to get another

1:21:15 > 1:21:21one in there, David.Hmm, well, the alternative on the backhand as well,

1:21:21 > 1:21:24the jack scooting across the other side will cost him a couple of

1:21:24 > 1:21:29shots. He has an alternative on the backhand to play on the blind side

1:21:29 > 1:21:36and play the same shot.I think that is probably the shot he will play.

1:21:36 > 1:21:43Yes he is reverting to his backhand. It is a safe draw.

1:21:52 > 1:21:58Now he needs to bend. He has played this well. Very good bowl by Robert

1:21:58 > 1:22:06Paxton. That gives him width and another shot by the looks of it.

1:22:06 > 1:22:13Surely Wayne will go this time.He played that, he identified it and

1:22:13 > 1:22:15played it well.

1:22:23 > 1:22:28Looking for split. And he got the other one. But that one wasn't in,

1:22:28 > 1:22:32John, it was the side bowl that Robert had played with his last

1:22:32 > 1:22:39delivery.You can see how good a bowl that was by Robert Paxton. If

1:22:39 > 1:22:45he hadn't got there, he would have been three down.

1:22:47 > 1:22:52been three down.A good cover bowl played by Robert. Just hiding his

1:22:52 > 1:22:56own in behind the front once. Clever stuff.

1:23:03 > 1:23:11The send up scoring was well hidden. Was never going to go out.You can

1:23:11 > 1:23:17see the frustration with Wayne there.Well, some players like to

1:23:17 > 1:23:25show their emotions and it is no bad thing sometimes. He shows it, no

1:23:25 > 1:23:31matter what way the game's going. Quite like that.He has got four

1:23:31 > 1:23:36ends to turn this around. This is normally the period he says he

1:23:36 > 1:23:39bursts into life!

1:23:46 > 1:23:56Been playing good bowls, Wayne, Robert's just had the edge though.

1:23:56 > 1:24:04Another good start. Right to the jack. Dead centre. Perfect line.

1:24:26 > 1:24:29Well done.

1:24:53 > 1:24:59Past it on the backhand side. He just left that short.Well what's

1:24:59 > 1:25:05going to clog up that hand for the next bowl. This is the second bowl

1:25:05 > 1:25:10where Wayne really needs to get this in. He has been drooping it short --

1:25:10 > 1:25:13dropping it short a few times.

1:25:15 > 1:25:22Oh, he is too long this time. That takes all the pressure off Robert

1:25:22 > 1:25:31Paxton.

1:25:56 > 1:26:00Can't blame him, he was going chasing it. Good chance to get his

1:26:00 > 1:26:07own bowl on, or take the green bowl out clean. This one really needs to

1:26:07 > 1:26:09be in.

1:26:22 > 1:26:27Oh, that wee touch just makes it so much different now. Without that

1:26:27 > 1:26:33touch he is coming in behind his own bowl.He was unfortunate, he played

1:26:33 > 1:26:40a good bowl then. Just needed to miss that bowl. He has fallen off it

1:26:40 > 1:26:45and gives a bit more of a target for Robert Paxton if he wants to play

1:26:45 > 1:26:52these balls.REFEREE: Time out called. Rob has two time-outs

1:26:52 > 1:26:57remaining.

1:27:00 > 1:27:03remaining.He is looking at this shot. If he gets the high side of it

1:27:03 > 1:27:07and that is where the problem lies. If he gets the high side of that,

1:27:07 > 1:27:14the jack's going to move and the re-spot position's over here. So he

1:27:14 > 1:27:20has to be very careful.

1:27:28 > 1:27:36Just the chance to get the two bowls out.He is playing it.

1:27:38 > 1:27:43Has to be fortunate. That is probably better he didn't get a

1:27:43 > 1:27:52connection there, John, because I think he would have taken his own

1:27:52 > 1:28:02two out.Now, Wayne, can you add a third?Rebecca Field and Wayne's

1:28:02 > 1:28:14mother. That is the planning committee for the wedding!

1:28:16 > 1:28:20Good thi Wayne's had a run in this tournament then. That is overweight.

1:28:20 > 1:28:27Steady. Oh, missed chance. Really needed a 3 there just to add that

1:28:27 > 1:28:33little bit more pressure. But still with two shots... One behind. Three

1:28:33 > 1:28:38ends go.

1:29:05 > 1:29:12REFEREE: Jack length 26 metres. Fantastic arena here at Potters

1:29:12 > 1:29:16leisure resort. Perfect for the bowls. Big stand on one side and a

1:29:16 > 1:29:23lot of people in every day. Every single session. In the morning the

1:29:23 > 1:29:25sessions are very busy.

1:29:30 > 1:29:38Good start, Wayne. Rather than go through the gears.

1:29:41 > 1:29:45He is trying to drive himself forward, get that adrenaline

1:29:45 > 1:29:46flowing.

1:29:58 > 1:30:08He is very close to the jack here, Robert.Great bowl. Really that's...

1:30:08 > 1:30:12A bit of a kick for Wayne, because with that first bowl, he will be

1:30:12 > 1:30:16thinking I can build on something now. And then rocked back on his

1:30:16 > 1:30:18heels.

1:30:28 > 1:30:36He was on a good line again but he did not send it.

1:30:53 > 1:31:04The jack slightly off centre.A good bowl by Rob. Problems again for

1:31:04 > 1:31:08Wayne.

1:31:09 > 1:31:14Wayne. It is finding the answers at the moment for Robert. He looks to

1:31:14 > 1:31:19be under pressure.

1:31:21 > 1:31:23be under pressure. Weight always conscious of the fact it is easy to

1:31:23 > 1:31:30drop short. Robert Butler do well to follow the ball.He doesn't want to

1:31:30 > 1:31:36put one beside the red bowl. He could get three get cover of the

1:31:36 > 1:31:43same time.If he splits the jack and the green bowl he would be in a good

1:31:43 > 1:31:49place, and counting.

1:32:01 > 1:32:09Not quite. It is a hard shot to draw, a little bit of weight, trying

1:32:09 > 1:32:14to get a run through. That is not easy. The short green bowl is

1:32:14 > 1:32:23causing him problems. He will have to allow the bowl to bend. It looks

1:32:23 > 1:32:28the right shot.

1:32:35 > 1:32:41Well, it's going to be costly, isn't it? He will expect to lose three

1:32:41 > 1:32:48here. 8-4. Four down with three ends remaining. He might have been better

1:32:48 > 1:32:55to lose two feet on his last delivery and draw it. It has given

1:32:55 > 1:33:03Robert room to put this one in. He knows this is an important delivery.

1:33:04 > 1:33:10He wants to make this one count.

1:33:17 > 1:33:27No mistake. He played it well. A perfect delivery. Makes it three.

1:33:27 > 1:33:30And of course the problem for a Wayne Willgress is that he has to

1:33:30 > 1:33:39win the set. He has to score five shots in the last two ends.

1:33:39 > 1:33:46Groundhog Day. We have been here before. We have. On two other

1:33:46 > 1:33:50occasions. You just have a feeling that in this game Wayne has found it

1:33:50 > 1:33:55very hard to score shots, even though he has scored well.He has

1:33:55 > 1:34:03played better today than it did yesterday. You can only get out of

1:34:03 > 1:34:06trouble so many times. I think Robert is on a good length and line

1:34:06 > 1:34:14at the moment. He will know if he can play a good end he can seal it.

1:34:14 > 1:34:23But you never know in bowls. It is a strange old game, isn't it? Manages

1:34:23 > 1:34:26to surprise us, even now after all these years of being involved in the

1:34:26 > 1:34:31sport.

1:34:39 > 1:34:45I don't think Wayne is going to pick up any loose ball Macs today. --

1:34:45 > 1:34:54bowls.

1:34:54 > 1:35:02That is a sensible bowl. A good place.

1:35:31 > 1:35:35Certainly no mistakes from Robert Paxton. He will do everything he can

1:35:35 > 1:35:41to try to finish this match this end.Wayne will have two will begin

1:35:41 > 1:35:51carry the jack. -- will have to hope he can carry the jack. That would be

1:35:51 > 1:36:01the target for Paxton. Just put a bit on from his last to get to the

1:36:01 > 1:36:07two green bowls, lock it in.

1:36:27 > 1:36:36He needs to run.Dear, that is not where he wanted it. The shot is

1:36:36 > 1:36:47still there and he knows it.

1:36:48 > 1:37:02He is not sure about this one. The line is very close. Very close.

1:37:02 > 1:37:06line is very close. Very close. Two inches away from glory. He was very

1:37:06 > 1:37:12close with that. He has still got half a chance as it stands would he

1:37:12 > 1:37:20was very unlucky.I would like to have seen that jack being middle. It

1:37:20 > 1:37:25would have been three shots and totally hidden.I thought he was

1:37:25 > 1:37:32just hanging past it. He has got a bit of it. He has still got an

1:37:32 > 1:37:38opportunity though.

1:37:38 > 1:37:45opportunity though. Robert needs to get to those greens. I think it is a

1:37:45 > 1:37:51forehand personally to try to get to the back green.

1:37:53 > 1:37:57the back green. He could play at off the other side if he wanted to. That

1:37:57 > 1:38:05seems the easier way in. Not looking at the jack.

1:38:07 > 1:38:13at the jack.Anything past the red bowl would be good. He just has to

1:38:13 > 1:38:21lock into the green ones. He doesn't want to be short. He doesn't want to

1:38:21 > 1:38:27fall off that. Not too bad.

1:38:28 > 1:38:33fall off that. Not too bad. It will lead a catch for a Wayne.Well, the

1:38:33 > 1:38:37perfect shot is on, John, but I don't even think it is worth

1:38:37 > 1:38:43attending.I would be playing through this.He has to play through

1:38:43 > 1:38:49it, John. Try to get into that split. If he does that and get the

1:38:49 > 1:38:54red bowl, if that goes over the jack, goes through, the jack moves,

1:38:54 > 1:38:57ends in this position, the chances are that red bowl will go into the

1:38:57 > 1:39:05ditch. He could pick up three four shots. He could try to play the

1:39:05 > 1:39:10forehand. And try get to the jack to move it on the forehand. I don't

1:39:10 > 1:39:15think he will get back in time. That is really difficult. That would be

1:39:15 > 1:39:24some bowl. There is a connection. He has to hope things go his way.

1:39:28 > 1:39:37He is in the area. I don't believe it!

1:39:37 > 1:39:42it! Had that gone through we will be picking up four shots. Unbelievable

1:39:42 > 1:39:47results.

1:39:47 > 1:39:51results. I have to say Robert Paxton played very well in that match. He

1:39:51 > 1:39:56was very steady, very professional. Wayne Willgress added tremendously

1:39:56 > 1:40:00to the semifinal. The young man can be very pleased. He has made it to

1:40:00 > 1:40:05the last four of the world championship and he has been highly

1:40:05 > 1:40:11entertaining.Yes he has. He will learn a lot from this. A very

1:40:11 > 1:40:19professional performance. Very steady today. He did the job.

1:40:19 > 1:40:23steady today. He did the job.6-3, 11-4. I think 11-4 was a little bit

1:40:23 > 1:40:29unfair in the second set. It was closer than that. There was so much

1:40:29 > 1:40:36and so much that was good about this match. Some wonderful play.

1:40:43 > 1:40:51Robert Paxton was in trouble in the first couple of ends. He picked up

1:40:51 > 1:40:54couple of singles even though he was under the cosh. This was his third

1:40:54 > 1:41:00bowl in the final end of the set. Lost one. But he was four in front.

1:41:00 > 1:41:07That was a key moment. Wayne Willgress wasn't finished. 3-0 down,

1:41:07 > 1:41:14the last ball to go 3-2 in the second set. And the big drive, three

1:41:14 > 1:41:23shots against them, took two out, kept in the set. 5-2 down. Robert

1:41:23 > 1:41:29Paxton playing so well, the seventh end, picked up three to go four

1:41:29 > 1:41:32shots in front into the last end. There was no breaking the man from

1:41:32 > 1:41:37there.

1:41:38 > 1:41:41there. Wayne desperately unlucky. The jack in the ditch was worth

1:41:41 > 1:41:48four. Robert Paxton into the final. Great bowling. It shows how

1:41:48 > 1:41:53consistent Robert Paxton was.

1:41:56 > 1:42:00consistent Robert Paxton was. It was much closer in terms of the match.

1:42:00 > 1:42:03Robert Paxton very professional, Wayne Willgress played really well.

1:42:03 > 1:42:05The right man won. He was

1:42:05 > 1:42:05Wayne Willgress played really well. The right man won. He was that

1:42:05 > 1:42:09little bit better on the day. Indeed. Robert Paxton alongside me,

1:42:09 > 1:42:16along with Wayne Willgress. Wayne, an incredible week. After what has

1:42:16 > 1:42:20happened over the last 48 hours, was a bit difficult to set yourself for

1:42:20 > 1:42:26today?Not really. I had to go out there and try to play. Rob was too

1:42:26 > 1:42:33good. But be under pressure. I had to play a few shots that didn't come

1:42:33 > 1:42:38off. He put me under pressure. I played some loose ones which he

1:42:38 > 1:42:47capitalised on. What is your week been like? It is a dream. The best

1:42:47 > 1:42:53time of my life, really. I have been given the chance by potters.

1:42:53 > 1:42:58Hopefully I did myself proud. I could have tried to do a bit better,

1:42:58 > 1:43:04but... APPLAUSE.

1:43:04 > 1:43:08You brought a lot of entertainment and magic to the week. It has then

1:43:08 > 1:43:12fantastic watching you. You came up against a man who was determined.

1:43:12 > 1:43:18You have that steely focusing your right?Yeah, it has gone well today.

1:43:18 > 1:43:23Wayne came out of the blocks. I could have been down in the first

1:43:23 > 1:43:29few ends. He has got himself in the top 16. Good luck to him.You seem

1:43:29 > 1:43:32emotional about getting yourself through to the final and the chance

1:43:32 > 1:43:37to win the one event you want to win above all else?Definitely. The semi

1:43:37 > 1:43:41is the biggest game. Once you're there you can relax. Tomorrow

1:43:41 > 1:43:45afternoon hopefully I will give market a good game.What was it like

1:43:45 > 1:43:49playing this guy in front of this crowd?Fantastic. That is what bowls

1:43:49 > 1:43:58is about. You want atmosphere. Come back tomorrow.Absolutely. Wayne,

1:43:58 > 1:44:00commiserations. Rob, congratulations. We look forward to

1:44:00 > 1:44:04seeing you in the final. Let's show you what we have got coming up on

1:44:04 > 1:44:06the BBC.

1:44:40 > 1:44:44That is what is coming up in the next couple of days. This time next

1:44:44 > 1:44:51week though it is time for the return of the Six Nations.

1:44:57 > 1:45:10I like a challenge.Haggis. Twickenham.A French kiss.

1:45:10 > 1:45:16Twickenham.A French kiss.We will settle it on the pitch.

1:45:19 > 1:45:24That is just about it at potters. The crowd drifting away. They will

1:45:24 > 1:45:28be back for the final tomorrow. We hope to see you then. Mark Dawes

1:45:28 > 1:45:37against Robert Paxton. For now, from all of us here, bye-bye.
