:00:43. > :00:47.Good afternoon and welcome to coverage of the track cycling world

:00:47. > :00:51.championships. We will be with you over the next five days as the

:00:51. > :01:01.British team take to the boards again in search of more medals.

:01:01. > :01:23.

:01:23. > :01:33.What a night we have got to look forward to a. It is going to be an

:01:33. > :01:35.

:01:35. > :01:39.absolute thriller. They were absolutely flying, Great pretender.

:01:39. > :01:48.Great Britain are the world champions and they are now going to

:01:48. > :01:53.become the Olympic champions. They are on fire! They are on fire!

:01:53. > :02:03.cannot believe it. I cannot believe this has happened to me, I'm really

:02:03. > :02:11.

:02:11. > :02:19.cannot. Chris Solly sets a new world record. -- Chris Hoy. Kenny

:02:19. > :02:29.is the world champion. Look at the time, it is a new world record.

:02:29. > :02:37.

:02:37. > :02:43.is a mad explosion of emotion. is the Olympic champion. Something

:02:43. > :02:53.to make you smile and cry at the same time. Time to write the next

:02:53. > :03:01.

:03:01. > :03:08.chapter post London and that Reminders of the past and a few

:03:08. > :03:13.secrets. The capital of Belarus plays host to the old and then you.

:03:13. > :03:18.Six Olympic champions from London will race and there will be a great

:03:18. > :03:24.deal of interest in some of the younger riders, Becky James in the

:03:24. > :03:30.sprint and the pursuit teams. That is the boys of Jill Douglas.

:03:30. > :03:40.Joining me is Craig McLean, a world champion in 2002 and plenty more

:03:40. > :03:42.

:03:42. > :03:48.besides. Look at the power, already zipping down the back straight.

:03:48. > :03:58.Great Britain take gold. You have got to get the credit to Craig

:03:58. > :04:06.McLean. Craig McLean is the new leader of the competition and he

:04:06. > :04:12.starts to celebrate and celebrate in some style. Winner of the men's

:04:12. > :04:18.kilometre competition with a storming ride of 1.0689. Craig

:04:18. > :04:24.McLean of Great Britain. anything dates you, it was the

:04:24. > :04:29.helmet. They have changed a lot. They certainly have. It looks quite

:04:29. > :04:36.appropriate for a Minsk. That was where we were supposed to wear

:04:36. > :04:43.safety hair once as opposed to aerodynamic helmets. You have done

:04:44. > :04:47.this before. You have done the Olympic Games and then a world-

:04:47. > :04:53.championship straight afterwards. What will the mine said be in the

:04:53. > :04:57.team? Some of them seem keen. It surprised a few of the riders how

:04:57. > :05:02.quickly they were able to come up to form after the Olympics. They

:05:02. > :05:08.had a lot of time off and they enjoyed themselves and it was after

:05:08. > :05:13.the celebrations which was the hard point for them. That initial block

:05:13. > :05:20.of training. For a lot of them, Jason Kenny especially, his form

:05:20. > :05:24.came back very quickly and that motivated him even more. David

:05:24. > :05:34.Brailsford has called is a changing of the Guard a little bit. It is a

:05:34. > :05:36.

:05:36. > :05:42.Six existing Champions in there and four riders who have never been to

:05:42. > :05:45.a world track championship before and the youngest is 19 years old.

:05:45. > :05:50.The interesting thing is the athletes with experience are also

:05:50. > :05:58.very young and they will be in Rio as well. More than likely. Ed

:05:58. > :06:08.Clancy is the oldest at 27. If you look at Chris Solly each -- Chris

:06:08. > :06:12.Hoy, he is 36. And he is still growing strong. The expectations

:06:12. > :06:18.and we sold a montage of London with seven out of 10 gold medals.

:06:18. > :06:23.What are you looking for in these championships? The points system is

:06:23. > :06:28.a rolling qualification leading on to Rio and every race counts. It

:06:28. > :06:30.would be nice to come out with some titles, but exposing these

:06:30. > :06:36.youngsters to a high-level competition is crucial at this

:06:36. > :06:40.point because this could be the team that goes to Rio. I do not

:06:40. > :06:45.think expectations in terms of winning gold medals will be high in

:06:45. > :06:50.the camp. But they will certainly try to do that. We have got Laura

:06:50. > :06:56.Trott, Jason Kenny and Ed Clancy and who would you pick out of the

:06:56. > :07:01.younger people coming through? Elano Barker has proved her mettle

:07:01. > :07:05.and she stepped into the women's team pursuits and replaced Jo

:07:05. > :07:10.Rowsell. Jo Rowsell is not faced, but there is a lot of healthy

:07:10. > :07:15.competition. She was a junior world champion and she has proved what

:07:15. > :07:20.she is capable of and she is going to do on to do great things, I

:07:20. > :07:30.think. We have got five days of competition. These are the

:07:30. > :07:40.

:07:41. > :07:47.highlights of day one. The men's No Jess Varnish because she is

:07:47. > :07:54.injured. It is Vicky Williamson and Becky James. This is a really

:07:54. > :08:00.experienced team. Sam Harrison joins the team. They always look

:08:00. > :08:04.good. Plenty of new faces in the team and a changing of the Guard in

:08:04. > :08:10.the BBC's Sports cycling team as well as Hugh Porter moves on to

:08:10. > :08:15.pastures new. One of the great voices. I have been on the journey

:08:15. > :08:22.at every Olympics since Ahsan delays and 99% of mycology seems to

:08:22. > :08:31.end on the cutting-room floor. Now 99% of our commentary goes out on

:08:31. > :08:38.air. You cannot get better than that. -- the my commentary. Mark

:08:38. > :08:43.Cavendish has won for Great Britain. Chris Hoy and brings the team

:08:43. > :08:51.Venables stock Bradley Wiggins is the Olympic champion. It is gold

:08:51. > :09:00.and gold for Bradley Wiggins. He is going to take the gold medal to

:09:00. > :09:08.become the Olympic champion. The Victoria Pendleton takes the gold

:09:08. > :09:14.medal. An unbelievable ride. They are on fire. Bradley Wiggins cannot

:09:14. > :09:24.believe it. We can, we have just witnessed it. This man is

:09:24. > :09:24.

:09:24. > :09:31.unstoppable. He is the Olympic road race champion. I ran out of

:09:31. > :09:38.superlatives a long time ago of. The real McCoy, Chris Hoy. I reckon

:09:38. > :09:47.that is a heavier fall than the crash. We all know this is going to

:09:47. > :09:56.be on A Question of Sport. Who is going to get it? Chris Hoy gets the

:09:56. > :10:03.gold medal. That is a bit unfair to show. I am going to get under the

:10:03. > :10:08.table. I am delighted to say he will be with us for the Winter

:10:08. > :10:13.Olympics. When you look back at all your great races, his voice must be

:10:13. > :10:17.in your ear as well as all the pictures. It ease and his voice is

:10:17. > :10:23.synonymous with the cycling and in all these old clips he adds a

:10:23. > :10:28.little bit of drama to the raising and he is the most mimicked

:10:29. > :10:35.commentator in terms of some of his catchphrases within the GB camp.

:10:35. > :10:39.Chris Hoy, the real McCoy, springs to mind. Yes, and he has been part

:10:39. > :10:44.of the furniture, certainly in my career time and looking back to

:10:44. > :10:50.Chris Boardman's time as well. Let's get to the action as well.

:10:50. > :11:00.This is the men's key low, the one kilometre time trial. We have got

:11:00. > :11:00.

:11:00. > :11:06.X'ian MIT and he is in great form. He's suffered from a few injuries,

:11:06. > :11:12.but he has had a good block of training and it is amazing the

:11:12. > :11:16.difference the consistency makes. guess the big moments will be

:11:16. > :11:21.stepping into position three in the team sprint, Chris Solly's position

:11:21. > :11:27.for many years. There are big shoes to fill. The one kilometre time

:11:27. > :11:33.trial is not an Olympic event, but it is a world championship event.

:11:33. > :11:37.It is part of the training for the third man position. Chris cut his

:11:37. > :11:42.teeth into one kilometre time trial and that is what made him such a

:11:42. > :11:47.good team-mate in the team sprint. Herr do you think he will cope with

:11:47. > :11:54.that pressure? I do not think there is pressure to be the next Chris

:11:54. > :11:58.Hoy as such. The event is evolving style. Especially the new rule

:11:58. > :12:04.change in terms of the changeover, it makes for a slightly different

:12:04. > :12:08.event. He will not be looking to mimic Chris. Well, he will be

:12:08. > :12:18.looking to mimic him, but I do not think he will be looking to surpass

:12:18. > :12:23.

:12:23. > :12:32.them. A our committed team is Chris Boardman.

:12:32. > :12:37.They are halfway through the time trial. That is the Italian. The

:12:37. > :12:47.crowd so far have seen nine riders in this particular event. Ed

:12:47. > :12:59.

:12:59. > :13:04.Dawkins from New Zealand has set for third fastest. The Italian is

:13:04. > :13:14.tightening up his post wraps. This is from an incident from several

:13:14. > :13:31.

:13:31. > :13:36.years ago. An Australian who pulled event was dropped from the Olympic

:13:36. > :13:39.Games after Athens into Besant and Ford. At the time it did not look

:13:39. > :13:45.great for Great Britain with Jason Queally winning in Sydney and Chris

:13:45. > :13:50.Hawick winning in Athens, but things have turned out great for

:13:50. > :13:56.British cycling since then. It is a classic Blue Riband event for track

:13:56. > :14:02.cycling. It is not difficult to follow. The fastest rider over four

:14:02. > :14:10.laps wins. In it has made a comeback. It is a proving ground

:14:10. > :14:15.and a training event for riders to go on for the group Sprint. Man

:14:15. > :14:21.number two and a man number three need that endurance. He is just

:14:21. > :14:25.under half a second down on the fastest time. It is all about how

:14:26. > :14:33.deeply he can dig in and keep the gears at turning. Has he got the

:14:33. > :14:42.power to do so? That is the second fastest time. That was a good

:14:42. > :14:47.finish by him. It was not quite the best start. The made it laps served

:14:47. > :14:52.him well. He died towards the end, but not as badly as the others. He

:14:52. > :14:57.has got to be happy with that. The accord due respect to the riders

:14:57. > :15:03.who have gone so far, all 10 of them, we start to get to the meat

:15:03. > :15:13.of the order now in this 19 man field. The event comes to a

:15:13. > :15:22.

:15:22. > :15:29.crescendo with the seeded riders at track. Another British rider who

:15:29. > :15:39.made their world debut aged 20 was Jason Kenny so so maybe that bodes

:15:39. > :15:49.

:15:49. > :15:59.ahead of the Polish rider. Kian Emadi made his World Cup debut this

:15:59. > :16:01.

:16:01. > :16:07.winter. He did very well placing second in this event in Calais.

:16:07. > :16:11.am really looking forward to. He started at the same age as me

:16:11. > :16:15.actually, aged 13. He has done some road. He probably settled into the

:16:15. > :16:20.sprinting groove. He had to fight his way into the team her through

:16:20. > :16:26.stronger opposition. He earned his place and the sprint coach is happy

:16:26. > :16:30.with his progress and I'm fascinated to see what he will do.

:16:30. > :16:40.Yes in this event and the team sprint as well. He will fit into

:16:40. > :16:45.

:16:45. > :16:53.the sizable shoes of Sir Chris Hoy. Let's see how he does, Kian Emadi.

:16:53. > :16:57.He was born and raised in Stoke-on- Trent. That's Iain Dyer just

:16:57. > :17:03.kneeling done. It was Shane Kelly of of Australia

:17:03. > :17:08.who pulled his foot out and lost an Olympic title because of no toe

:17:08. > :17:18.straps and everybody relies on the toe straps for the extra belt and

:17:18. > :17:19.

:17:19. > :17:28.Britain. In the next minute or so we will

:17:29. > :17:37.see how he fairs. This is his first ever ride at senior levels at the

:17:37. > :17:42.World Championships. He is getting encouragement from Iain Dyer.

:17:42. > :17:46.He looks very, very solid. The second fastest time.

:17:46. > :17:50.Chris, he looks very, very smooth. He looks better than anybody else

:17:50. > :17:53.we have seen and at the half-way mark he leads the way. It is Kian

:17:53. > :17:59.Emadi for Great Britain. He comes up towards the bell.

:17:59. > :18:04.He is pushing a big gear there. He He looks well on top of it. Again,

:18:04. > :18:07.encouragement from Iain Dyer. Can he hang on now? Four tenths of a

:18:07. > :18:12.second second up. Half a length to go for Kian Emadi of Great Britain.

:18:12. > :18:20.He has got to dig deep and see what he has got left and just a few

:18:20. > :18:25.meters towards the line. Is it the fastest time? Yes, it is by nearly

:18:25. > :18:30.half a second. That's an excellent ride by Kian Emadi. Well, he will

:18:30. > :18:35.be pleased with that. That was a world-class ride. He will be

:18:35. > :18:42.pleased with that. If he is not, he should be. A very, very solid ride

:18:42. > :18:49.there. The 20-year-old leads the way now.

:18:49. > :18:52.A lot of muscle there as he took that out of the gate. You could see

:18:52. > :18:58.him fatigued towards the end. His shoulders were dropping, but he

:18:58. > :19:02.stayed with it all the way around. A good line all the way round.

:19:02. > :19:06.Not only did you look committed, but he looked technically good,

:19:06. > :19:11.didn't he? He was very, very smooth. Well, we know with the British team

:19:11. > :19:16.they do a lot of technical drills. It would be second nature to him

:19:16. > :19:22.the way that he rode that race. How to come out of the gate. They do a

:19:22. > :19:31.lot of technical training. Here is where he brings the

:19:31. > :19:35.don't doubt his is a name that is unfamiliar to most people watching,

:19:35. > :19:39.but it is fair to say his a name that we will need to remember as we

:19:39. > :19:42.will be hearing it again and again. We will. Half a second clear and it

:19:42. > :19:45.is quite something at this level of competition.

:19:45. > :19:55.Some descent riders to come as you would expect.

:19:55. > :20:18.

:20:18. > :20:25.Among those still to ride, Eric Wagner from the Czech Republic. So

:20:25. > :20:30.many of the riders are around 20. This is the beginning of the next

:20:30. > :20:34.four year cycle. I was looking at my notes and looking at the

:20:34. > :20:37.different riders and their ages and the British team, the average age

:20:37. > :20:41.dropped dramatically. It really is a young squad, but that seems to be

:20:41. > :20:51.the case across-the-board. A lot of young riders coming through and if

:20:51. > :20:53.

:20:53. > :21:00.you say early 20s and 20 and under is not unusual at the moment.

:21:00. > :21:05.A few final words of encouragement there for Wagner and just a few

:21:05. > :21:09.seconds to wait now before his ride at the World Championships. The

:21:10. > :21:17.Czech junior kilo champion and senior champion in 2012. To give

:21:17. > :21:27.you an idea of what we should be expecting here. One in a 1.08 last

:21:27. > :21:33.

:21:33. > :21:39.year by Stefan. He is not just about to complete the first

:21:39. > :21:47.lap of four. He is three tenths down. He made a descent start.

:21:47. > :21:54.Half-way down the back straight on lap two. There is a lot to give

:21:54. > :22:00.away three three tenths. It has gone up to half a second. It

:22:00. > :22:05.could turn into a damage limitation exercise.

:22:05. > :22:10.Cane Kian Emadi is rapidly moving towards a podium position.

:22:10. > :22:14.Wagner is over a second down at the bell and visibly tiring up a little

:22:14. > :22:24.bit down the back straight as he go goes into the banking away to our

:22:24. > :22:26.

:22:26. > :22:31.left for the last time. And crawls towards the finish line.

:22:31. > :22:37.Crawls relevant to the times he did for his first two laps. I will have

:22:37. > :22:47.to get statistics on the speed between lap two and the last

:22:47. > :22:48.

:22:48. > :22:55.quarter of the lap. I would guess it is a or 6 kmp. The lack of

:22:55. > :23:03.oxygen and the build up of lactic assit they start to -- acid they

:23:03. > :23:10.start to slow the pedals down. Emadi leads the way currently. Kian

:23:10. > :23:16.Emadi is still warming down in the centre of the track. He was well

:23:16. > :23:20.received by the British coaching staff and a case of pats on the

:23:20. > :23:23.back all-round produced by the 20- year-old. He is still puffing and

:23:23. > :23:30.blowing down there. I am not surprised. It can take you 20

:23:30. > :23:36.minutes to get your composure back. I wonder did they tell him he had

:23:36. > :23:38.to compete in the team sprint. has just collided with somebody on

:23:38. > :23:44.the track. He continues his warm down.

:23:44. > :23:51.This is Eric Engler from Germany. The 21-year-old made a great start

:23:51. > :23:55.to the World Cup meetings, winning the team sprints and the individual

:23:55. > :24:02.individual sprin and he is the current -- sprint and he is the

:24:02. > :24:07.current German German champion. What sort of threat will he pose to

:24:07. > :24:11.the time set by Kian Emadi? He is another youngster, isn't he, at 21?

:24:11. > :24:15.He is part of the team that won the team sprint in Calais at the recent

:24:15. > :24:20.World Cup. Yes, a team sprint Gold Medallist

:24:20. > :24:24.in the under 23 championships as well. Good times for Germany in

:24:24. > :24:29.track racing. They have been strong over the winter thus far.

:24:29. > :24:39.They have really come forward this Olympics, in the run-up to the

:24:39. > :24:45.

:24:45. > :24:53.Engler, the first of two German riders to come here.

:24:54. > :24:56.And Eric Engler is on his way. Completely locked arms. You see the

:24:56. > :25:02.different style as he uses his own arms as leavers for his legs to

:25:02. > :25:05.push against. Very, very muscular the Germans. They don't go for

:25:05. > :25:10.speed and for light riders, they like the bulk.

:25:10. > :25:15.He is fastest after the first lap. That's a very solid start, isn't

:25:15. > :25:18.it? It is solid. It is strong. He got on top of the gear very, very

:25:18. > :25:24.quickly. At the moment he looks comfortable as he powers around the

:25:24. > :25:26.track. He is over two tenths of a second faster than Kian Emadi and

:25:26. > :25:34.it is about whether he can keep it going.

:25:34. > :25:38.He chose a low gear as well. Particularically a solid ride ride

:25:38. > :25:42.as he comes into the final lap. He is tying up as all riders do on

:25:42. > :25:46.the final lap. He has got to dig deep and keep it going. Up towards

:25:46. > :25:52.the line to try and set the fastest time. It will be close. Is it close

:25:52. > :25:55.enough? Kian Emadi from Great Britain still

:25:55. > :26:00.leads. Well, that is so close, isn't it?

:26:00. > :26:03.That is close and that's how this competition is normally played out.

:26:03. > :26:09.We were shown some big gaps at start of the race, but as the

:26:09. > :26:19.favourites come in, it gets closer and closer and everybody aspect,

:26:19. > :26:23.the lunge at start, the lunge at the end make all the difference.

:26:23. > :26:28.Well, Eric Engler was able to get on top of the gear quickly. The

:26:28. > :26:31.size of the gear not as big as some of the other riders we have seen so

:26:31. > :26:36.far in this competition. I feel it is the last part of the

:26:36. > :26:42.race where you start to pay for that extra muscle bulk. You get off

:26:42. > :26:45.the mark quickly, but there is a price to be paid and there is an

:26:45. > :26:48.aerodynamic penalty because the rider is larger. It is not a pure

:26:48. > :26:52.sprint, is it? It is partly a balancing act.

:26:53. > :26:58.It is very much so. They find it very difficult to regulate their

:26:58. > :27:01.own effort because you think how hard they can, if they were doing a

:27:01. > :27:05.half lap effort, the difference between that and a kilometre, they

:27:05. > :27:13.have to reign it in slightly. It is almost an art form really to

:27:13. > :27:21.measure that kind of power over a minute. As more and more riders

:27:21. > :27:24.head back into the clubhouse as it were, the competition rose ever

:27:24. > :27:31.more intense. Anywhere heading towards the really strong riders at

:27:31. > :27:40.the back end of the field. And Kian Emadi heading closer and closer to

:27:40. > :27:48.a podium spot here. Whatever times are set by the rest of the riders,

:27:48. > :27:56.he has just himself justice and he performed very, very well. This is

:27:56. > :28:02.Hugo Haak from the heather lands. He is the -- Netherlands. He is the

:28:02. > :28:07.silver medallist in this event. He is another young rider at 21. A

:28:07. > :28:11.hole raft of riders that -- whole raft of riders that we are going to

:28:11. > :28:17.be seeing coming to the forein the European Championships.

:28:17. > :28:27.Just in case you weren't aware, there is the 50 second countdown on

:28:27. > :28:28.

:28:28. > :28:35.all the riders before they set off from the starter's gate.

:28:36. > :28:45.And Haak one of two Dutch riders to come. He is a big guy, isn't he? He

:28:46. > :28:47.

:28:47. > :28:53.has got some long leavers there. Five seconds.

:28:53. > :28:56.A little bit of support in the crowd for Hugo Haak.

:28:56. > :29:02.He is really using the leavers to get that go. I think we are going

:29:02. > :29:05.to see a good start here. Driving it home over that first three-

:29:05. > :29:13.quarters of a lap as he comes back into the home straight to cross the

:29:13. > :29:18.line. With the fastest time. Fully committed. He is going really,

:29:18. > :29:25.really quickly now, the Dutch rider. A quick opening lap there. Ke build

:29:25. > :29:33.on this? -- can he build on this? Yes, he can. He is doing well.

:29:33. > :29:38.There are conflicting information coming from the two fasting gadgets.

:29:38. > :29:42.One saying he is the fastest and the other saying he is not.

:29:42. > :29:46.He has eased back into third place. Yet again, it will be about the

:29:46. > :29:52.last half a lap. At the moment, I don't think he is doing too badly.

:29:52. > :29:58.Well up towards the line comes Haak and he is four tenths plus of a

:29:58. > :30:04.second outside. It is good enough for third fastest so far, but still

:30:04. > :30:07.Kian Emadi leads the way here in the men's kilometre. He is going

:30:07. > :30:14.into the final lap. He is in third position. He just managed to hang

:30:14. > :30:24.on to that. With Kian Emadi winning at the moment, it is important to

:30:24. > :30:30.note that the current state of British success in cycling started

:30:30. > :30:36.with Jason winning in this event. It was a gold run, wasn't it?

:30:36. > :30:42.was the proving ground. We got Lottery funding coming in at the

:30:42. > :30:46.end of my own career. Peter Keane set up a performance programme.

:30:46. > :30:50.They implemented a plan in Sydney and the gold medal was a big deal

:30:50. > :30:54.for the British team and it showed that they could go out there, put a

:30:54. > :30:56.plan together and win medals and they got more funding and it went

:30:56. > :31:01.from there. He didn't go into that Olympic

:31:01. > :31:05.Games as the favourite, for that event, did he? He went into it with

:31:05. > :31:15.people feeling and I think himself feeling he a chance of a medal, but

:31:15. > :31:34.

:31:34. > :31:37.he was not favoured to win the in Sydney in 2000. This is the

:31:37. > :31:45.European team sprint gold medallist and a former German kilometre

:31:45. > :31:51.champion. Won the World Cup in Kazakhstan a couple of years back,

:31:51. > :31:57.so has some international experience. An old man in this

:31:57. > :32:07.field at 22. We have to work out the average age, but I would say it

:32:07. > :32:16.

:32:16. > :32:24.is not far off 23, the average age. Almost ready to go. Including this

:32:24. > :32:34.man, 5 that riders to go. Kian Emadi-Coffin is getting closer to

:32:34. > :32:37.

:32:37. > :32:45.finishing potentially on the podium in his first major championships.

:32:45. > :32:50.This time is fast. 18.3 seems to be the mark at the moment. You need to

:32:50. > :32:55.be there or thereabouts if you want to be in with a shout. He is only

:32:55. > :33:05.4th, and he is holding that position at the moment. Still in

:33:05. > :33:06.

:33:06. > :33:14.touch, though. He takes the bell and goodness me, it is close.

:33:14. > :33:22.less than a 10th of a second in it. It is very close now. Can he set

:33:22. > :33:30.the fastest time? What has he got left in the tank? That is the new

:33:30. > :33:35.fastest time. He saved the best until last. We could see visibly he

:33:35. > :33:41.was not quite dying that much over the last half a lap and that seems

:33:41. > :33:46.to be where this event is going to play out tonight. They are all in

:33:46. > :33:52.touch in less than a 10th of a second between them. It is all in

:33:52. > :33:56.that last little bit. He was solid all the way through that ride from

:33:56. > :34:03.the moment he left the starting gate. The Germans and the British

:34:03. > :34:10.spend a lot of time on technique. We can expect a stylish start from

:34:10. > :34:16.any one of them. It was controlled power. Very much. We can see that

:34:16. > :34:26.expression on his face. We are not seeing some of the premises we see

:34:26. > :34:49.

:34:49. > :34:53.from some of the riders, because it in past two championships. He's

:34:53. > :34:59.settled for a silver medal in the French a national championships in

:34:59. > :35:03.the sprint, but he is the new French Keirin champion. We can

:35:03. > :35:09.expect a good technical right because the French, the Germans and

:35:09. > :35:16.the British run a very good school of cycling. They pass that

:35:16. > :35:22.knowledge from rider to rider. had a bit of a problem. He has

:35:22. > :35:29.chosen to continue, but he could have had a restart. The back wheel

:35:29. > :35:34.jumped somehow and that will cost him. The first of two revolutions

:35:34. > :35:41.of the pedals were less than clean. He has got an enormous amount of

:35:41. > :35:50.ground to make up. I think he made a big mistake. That was what they

:35:50. > :35:57.would classify as a mishap. I am sure they would have given him a ms

:35:57. > :36:05.and another start. He is not going to trouble the top of the

:36:05. > :36:09.leaderboard. It is over his second. 6th in the last two world

:36:09. > :36:19.championships, but I do not think he will fare terribly well in this

:36:19. > :36:21.

:36:21. > :36:29.one. 1.5 seconds down, but he lost so much time in the first few

:36:29. > :36:38.metres. You have got to lose motivator and from that as well. I

:36:38. > :36:48.am very surprised he did not go for a restart. -- motivation. An event

:36:48. > :36:49.

:36:49. > :36:56.like this is decided by hundredths of a second. Maybe there were some

:36:56. > :37:01.drops of sweat on the track, but he has chosen to keep going. What a

:37:01. > :37:06.messy start and effectively his medal chances were all over in the

:37:06. > :37:14.first two or three revolutions of the pedals. I am sure they would

:37:14. > :37:19.have given him a restart. That is why they call it a mishap. It is

:37:19. > :37:26.usually a crash or a mechanical problem, but clearly that was

:37:26. > :37:31.beyond his control. The French coach is standing at the side of

:37:31. > :37:39.the track with his hands on his hips. He will be disappointed with

:37:39. > :37:49.his own rider because he had the power to stop the race. Chris Hoy

:37:49. > :37:49.

:37:49. > :37:55.was raising in this event. This is the Keirin bronze medallist at the

:37:56. > :38:01.London Olympics. He has won this particular event twice before in a

:38:01. > :38:08.world championships, in 2008 and 2010. He also won the Keirin title

:38:08. > :38:13.a few years back. He is 31 and a real threat to win this here.

:38:13. > :38:19.has probably got thousands and thousands of pounds worth of

:38:19. > :38:28.aerodynamic equipment and he has not bothered to shave! It is of the

:38:28. > :38:33.small details. This is likely to be one of the highlights of this event.

:38:33. > :38:40.Look how low on the track he is. His body is still as his legs go

:38:40. > :38:47.round. It is beautifully done. that experience coming into play.

:38:47. > :38:52.He is the fastest so far. Look at him go, smooth power, being

:38:52. > :38:58.transmitted through the pedals down onto the track. Very quickly on top

:38:58. > :39:08.of that gear. He looks comfortable, he will be anything but, but he is

:39:08. > :39:08.

:39:08. > :39:15.the fastest. He has the experience. Surely he has paced this ride well?

:39:15. > :39:21.But he lost a lot of time on the third lap. Having gone out of the

:39:21. > :39:27.tracks like a greyhound he is now really struggling. He is gasping

:39:27. > :39:36.for air. That really has fallen apart dramatically in the second

:39:36. > :39:45.half of the race. He started so well and look at -- looked

:39:45. > :39:51.absolutely great, but then the wheels fell off. That is a real

:39:51. > :39:58.surprise. It was almost like somebody put the handbrake on.

:39:58. > :40:08.Peter Blake out at the start. Very good technical starred as you might

:40:08. > :40:09.

:40:09. > :40:15.expect. You would not expect that from a rider of his experience

:40:15. > :40:22.because he has been around so long. But if you have not got the legs on

:40:22. > :40:32.the day, there is not much you can do. One person he will be pleased

:40:32. > :40:49.

:40:49. > :40:56.will be Kian Emadi-Coffin who is there. He has won two French and

:40:56. > :41:02.national titles. He has got a world title to his name, but it was in

:41:02. > :41:10.the team sprint as a junior. No senior world title. He rode the

:41:10. > :41:20.Mexico World Cup recently. His form is not bad. Has he got the form and

:41:20. > :41:25.the legs to carry him to a medal here? France is perennially one of

:41:25. > :41:31.the stronger nations in track cycling. Their biggest name is not

:41:32. > :41:40.here. I think he is still trying to find his head after the Olympic

:41:40. > :41:45.Games which he thought he would win. He was beaten by Jason Kenny.

:41:45. > :41:55.looking good on this first lap. That is a pretty swift time. It is

:41:55. > :41:56.

:41:56. > :42:02.the fastest time. Can he keep it going? The only rider inside 18 and

:42:02. > :42:09.he looks very smooth. He is well on top of that gear and his line is

:42:09. > :42:14.almost perfect. It is like he is on a tramline. Fantastic riding so far

:42:15. > :42:21.and he comes up to the three- quarters mark. 1.1 seconds ahead of

:42:21. > :42:26.anybody else. He is absolutely flying. He looks so strong and he

:42:26. > :42:36.looks so smooth. He appears to be riding on a rail. He is the newly

:42:36. > :42:37.

:42:37. > :42:47.Devils stop the men's kilo file is saving the best until last. Almost,

:42:47. > :42:50.because we have one rider to come. We were talking about these events

:42:50. > :42:57.sometimes been decided by a thousandth of a second and then

:42:57. > :43:02.somebody comes N 1.2 seconds clear. That is absolutely incredible. It

:43:02. > :43:08.was a beautiful ride. He gave himself such a buffer going into

:43:08. > :43:13.the final lap. What a fantastic ride from a cyclist who has been

:43:13. > :43:19.around for a number of years and has not been one of the very

:43:19. > :43:23.brightest lights in an extremely talented French squad. Often we see

:43:23. > :43:28.after the Olympics are the people who just missed out in selection

:43:28. > :43:33.and they keep that burning desire and train hard through the winter

:43:33. > :43:39.months and come here with a desperate need to succeed and they

:43:39. > :43:47.often come through in the post Olympic world to championships.

:43:47. > :43:57.That was a fantastic ride for Purves from France. Only one man

:43:57. > :44:07.can deny him the gold medal now. Richard Burton sent as a tweet and

:44:07. > :44:08.

:44:08. > :44:18.he had a look at the speeds we were speculating on. It went from 66

:44:18. > :44:18.

:44:18. > :44:24.kilometres an hour on the first lap down to 57 on the last lap. There

:44:24. > :44:30.is 10 kilometres difference such is the fatigue. There is no surprise

:44:30. > :44:36.there. This is the bronze medallist at the Olympic Games in the Keirin.

:44:36. > :44:45.He has just won three national titles on the track in New Zealand.

:44:45. > :44:53.Third in the world championships in this event a year ago. He is miles

:44:53. > :44:58.off the pace. In 11th position. will be watching this as well

:44:58. > :45:08.because Kian Emadi-Coffin is still in the bronze-medal position. This

:45:08. > :45:20.

:45:20. > :45:25.Well, just over a second down, but that's because Purvis is faster

:45:25. > :45:35.that everybody else so far. This is going to go down to the wire. It is

:45:35. > :45:36.

:45:36. > :45:46.a fast, fast finish. One minute exactly and 0.859 and that's good

:45:46. > :45:46.

:45:46. > :45:56.enough. It is another step up the podium. Francois Pervis with a

:45:56. > :46:00.stning ride -- stunning ride wins the gold medal here. Great

:46:00. > :46:03.Britain's Kian Emadi-Coffin outside the medals. This is a competition

:46:03. > :46:09.full of surprises. I didn't think he could recover from a start like

:46:09. > :46:14.that. 11th place after the first lap. He came through from eighth to

:46:14. > :46:19.second with a lap to go and that's where he stayed. That was an

:46:19. > :46:25.imcredible comeback. It showed his closing speed or the speed on his

:46:25. > :46:32.third lap was amazing. A stunning ride there. On another

:46:32. > :46:35.day that would have won him the World Championship, but not when

:46:35. > :46:42.Francois Pervis the form and the determination he had. Francois

:46:42. > :46:48.Pervis is the new world champion for the men's kilometre time trial.

:46:48. > :46:58.An excellent ride by 20-year-old, Kian Emadi-Coffin, he was fourth in

:46:58. > :46:59.

:46:59. > :47:02.his first ever event in the World Kian Emadi-Coffin just missed out..

:47:02. > :47:06.It is a horrible place just waiting to see what the other riders would

:47:07. > :47:14.do. He did a fantastic job. There do. He did a fantastic job. There

:47:14. > :47:18.is a world-class field there. Mulleders is very -- Mulder is very

:47:18. > :47:22.experienced. The key to this is pacing as we saw

:47:22. > :47:27.with Mulder, he got it wrong. A very mature performance from an

:47:27. > :47:32.athlete in his first World Championships? It was. He showed

:47:32. > :47:37.what he is capable at in the World Cup in Mexico. He did a very good

:47:37. > :47:41.ride there. That's at altitude so a little bit quicker than he went

:47:41. > :47:47.there. This is a significant chunk into his CV.

:47:47. > :47:53.It was an outstanding performance. It will put him in good stead for

:47:53. > :47:59.the team sprint. Confirmation of his form? Hopefully he can recover

:47:59. > :48:01.well interest this. He has three days until he is in the team sprint.

:48:01. > :48:07.Definitely a prospect for the future.

:48:07. > :48:13.It was an outstanding performance. The important thing, pacing and he

:48:13. > :48:17.got it just right. He did. This isn't an event they train a lot for.

:48:17. > :48:20.It is an additional event and they will ride it off the back of the

:48:20. > :48:27.team sprint training rather than putting a lot of emphasis.

:48:27. > :48:37.Now, the women's individual pursuit. Sarah Hammer of the USA looked like

:48:37. > :48:47.on the track is the women's individual pursuit. It is the race

:48:47. > :48:47.

:48:47. > :48:57.for bronze between Edmondson from Australia and Laura Brown from

:48:57. > :48:59.

:48:59. > :49:03.Canada. Edmondson won a bronze in London.

:49:03. > :49:06.She is in great form. Three golds in the national championships in

:49:07. > :49:11.Australia in year and Laura Brown from Canada on the other side of

:49:11. > :49:17.the track. She is She is 26 years of age. A former national champion

:49:17. > :49:27.in the team sprin and the team sprint and a former Gold Medallist

:49:27. > :49:31.

:49:31. > :49:35.this race. He had Edmondson on paper should have it. Sometimes you

:49:35. > :49:39.get a rider who qualifies well and can't produce a second ride a few

:49:39. > :49:43.hours later, but also for Brown, when you have got nothing to lose,

:49:43. > :49:49.you can pull out extraordinary performances so let's see if it

:49:49. > :49:59.goes to schedule. 12 laps of the track and they are

:49:59. > :50:06.

:50:06. > :50:12.Fin I shalling the first -- Technically a good start, but Brown

:50:12. > :50:16.is starting to hold her own now. She lost a little bit more, but 1.4

:50:16. > :50:19.seconds. That's already quite a sizable chunk. She is not losing

:50:19. > :50:24.anywhere near as fast, but she is losing time to the Australian.

:50:24. > :50:29.Well, nine laps to go here in this women's bronze medal race in the

:50:29. > :50:35.individual pursuit and a second- and-a-half. So Brown needs to hold

:50:35. > :50:45.her own and then try to make some in-roads. But against a rider as

:50:45. > :50:47.

:50:47. > :50:53.talented as Annette Edmondson, that might take some doing.

:50:53. > :50:56.Slower this time around. So Brown is producing a similar performance

:50:56. > :51:03.as well. She is steadily losing ground.

:51:03. > :51:08.There is seven laps to go and the gap is going up. I can only see one

:51:08. > :51:12.winner. She comes from a very talented cycling family. The pair

:51:12. > :51:18.of them selected for London 2012, the first ever brother and sister

:51:18. > :51:23.pairing to be selected for the Olympic Games. The same Olympics in

:51:23. > :51:29.Australian cycling. Well, Edmondson has already got her

:51:29. > :51:34.opponent in sight and that makes a difference. I am wondering if she

:51:34. > :51:39.is going to go after the catch as they approach the last kilometre?

:51:39. > :51:44.We have five laps to go. The next time they go through the finishing

:51:44. > :51:49.line on either side of the track, it will be the final kill kilometre

:51:49. > :51:53.of the race. The gap is so big, there is no way that Brown will

:51:53. > :51:59.finish anywhere other than fourth. Fourth is an excellent ride for the

:51:59. > :52:04.Canadian. Her time was enough to edge out Caroline Ryan from Ireland.

:52:04. > :52:12.She was in a medal ride until the last pairing went off. She did her

:52:12. > :52:16.ride in 3.3826. Annette Edmondson seems untroubled here as she races

:52:16. > :52:22.towards the bronze medal. Well, she is well into this final kilometre

:52:22. > :52:25.and it would take a mishap to cause her a problem. She just needs to

:52:26. > :52:29.keep her opponent in sight. She is not going to achieve the catch

:52:29. > :52:33.which I thought before this race started that might abpossibility --

:52:33. > :52:39.be a possibility. But no, she is going to have to settle for the

:52:39. > :52:44.bronze medal. And she can see the Canadian rider in her sights or she

:52:44. > :52:47.will do. There you can see the gap. She will have a clear view of Laura

:52:47. > :52:52.Brown, the Canadian. Annette Edmondson taking the bell for

:52:52. > :52:58.Australia and Australia about to get on the the board with their

:52:58. > :53:04.first medal of these championships. It is It is a very talented team as

:53:04. > :53:09.it always is. An interesting mixture of current current current

:53:09. > :53:13.world champions and Annette Edmondson is one of of those bright,

:53:13. > :53:18.young riders for the future and she won the bronze medal here and it

:53:18. > :53:23.was a comfortable victory over Laura Brown from Canada. The time

:53:23. > :53:28.for Edmondson 3.36830. So slower than the qualifying ride, but she

:53:28. > :53:37.went as fast as she needed to go to get the medal. P-well, they have

:53:37. > :53:41.done a couple of rides in the last few hours. So it is understandable,

:53:41. > :53:47.really. She will form part of the team pursuit team.

:53:47. > :53:57.It is an interesting point when you think how good the British women's

:53:57. > :54:01.team, you have Laura Trott, and Jo Rowsell. When you think of the

:54:01. > :54:04.talent over the distance, is it surprising to you that we don't

:54:04. > :54:09.have anybody racing in this particular event? Well, our problem

:54:09. > :54:13.here, of course, is the scheduling of the events. They have got the

:54:13. > :54:18.team pursuit after this event and all of them want to make sure that

:54:18. > :54:21.they have a good chance of winning the gold medal in that team pursuit

:54:22. > :54:27.event and it is so important for them...... They have a qualifying

:54:27. > :54:31.tomorrow morning? Exactly. They are sacrificing that for the team

:54:31. > :54:35.pursuit and they are keen to hang on to the title as well, of course,

:54:35. > :54:38.because it is the last time it will be run over three kilometre before

:54:38. > :54:41.they move to four kilometres and four riders.

:54:41. > :54:46.It will be interesting to see the effect of that, actually, when it

:54:46. > :54:53.comes in whether a number of the other countries currently have the

:54:53. > :54:56.strength in depth. Well, I think it is going to cause a problem. The

:54:56. > :55:03.two big beneficiaries will be Australia and Great Britain. They

:55:03. > :55:06.have half a dozen riders who could fill the places, but for the USA we

:55:06. > :55:12.see Sarah Hammer lining up for the individual pursuit. Well, they have

:55:12. > :55:15.had to scrape around to find a good team and they did a good job, but

:55:15. > :55:25.they pulled riders from the sprint and other disciplines to make up

:55:25. > :55:26.

:55:26. > :55:33.the team pursuit. Fourth last year in the individual

:55:33. > :55:37.pursuit. It will be silver at worst for her this time around.

:55:37. > :55:42.She raced in Scotland at the back end of November. We are inside the

:55:42. > :55:46.last 30 seconds before this womens final is underway, but what about

:55:46. > :55:51.Sarah Hammer? What about a rider. Four time individual pursuit

:55:51. > :55:54.champion. She is tenacious and the only representative of America at

:55:54. > :55:57.this World Championships. She is going to ride everything and you

:55:57. > :56:03.can bet your bottom dollar she will be competitive in everything as

:56:03. > :56:06.well. Perhaps not not over this first kilometre, because Cure is

:56:06. > :56:10.the fastest starter of the two. The difference between the pair of

:56:10. > :56:18.them in qualifying, 12 laps of the track by the way in this final,

:56:18. > :56:22.Hammer was the fastest by some distance actually, 3.30206 and Amy

:56:22. > :56:27.Cure 3.33.3. But Hammer looking to go for gold here because she had to

:56:27. > :56:30.settle for silver silver twice at London 2012 in the team pursuit and

:56:30. > :56:35.the ominium behind Laura Trott so it was a tussle between the pair of

:56:35. > :56:42.them. It went to the wire. But here now, Hammer will be going all out

:56:42. > :56:46.for the gold medal. That's Amy Cure from Australia, she is from

:56:46. > :56:49.Tasmania and now residing in Adelaide. Amy Cure made the fastest

:56:50. > :56:54.start. I wondered if she might reign it in

:56:54. > :56:57.because it cost her dearly the experience of Sarah Hammer just

:56:57. > :57:02.backing off and measuring her effort and she won out in the end.

:57:02. > :57:05.Cure was nearly a second faster in that opening kilometre which I

:57:05. > :57:09.suspect she is going to be again here and I think she is going to

:57:09. > :57:12.pay the same price again. Well, just over eight laps to go.

:57:12. > :57:18.They are coming up to the first kilometre mark. Is that the natural

:57:18. > :57:23.style of Amy Cure, Chris? Is she trying to put Hammer under pressure

:57:23. > :57:27.by making a fast start? Well, Hammer, she won't worry about her

:57:27. > :57:31.opposition until she gets into the final kilometre. She will She will

:57:31. > :57:35.do her own ride and measure her own effort because that's all you can

:57:35. > :57:40.do. You need to focus on your own effort in this event and already,

:57:40. > :57:44.she is bringing it down. Just 0.1 of a second between them now. This

:57:44. > :57:49.could be the beginning of the end for the Australian. Well, the race

:57:49. > :57:52.is on and it is going to be a case of how long Amy Cure can hang on

:57:52. > :57:57.there? She will have to dig in because the assault has started

:57:57. > :58:02.from the American. Sarah Hammer has turned this race on its head in the

:58:02. > :58:07.space of a lap-and-a-half. She has the measure of her owe pone. When

:58:07. > :58:12.you see -- her opponent. When you see somebody start off and die off,

:58:12. > :58:15.you know they have given everything. She is just eating up the distance.

:58:15. > :58:20.She has turned that advantage around now.

:58:20. > :58:27.Amy Cure, I imagine there is lots more to come from her. Sarah Hammer

:58:27. > :58:32.has been racing for a long time. It is an enormous gap. It is not a gap

:58:32. > :58:36.that Amy Cure has any chance of closing. I think we could see a

:58:36. > :58:44.catch here. Sarah Hammer has the opposition in her sights now in the

:58:44. > :58:47.matter of a few lap that is we have just been talking over, she has

:58:47. > :58:52.made in-roads into her opponent. Well, this is a pursuiting

:58:52. > :58:58.masterclass from Sarah Hammer. We would expect nothing less. It is

:58:58. > :59:05.all about Sarah Hammer now, Amy cap cure has done -- Amy Cure has done

:59:05. > :59:10.well to get the gold medal. I Simon, we could see a catch here.

:59:10. > :59:13.She is getting closer with every revolution of the pedals. She has

:59:13. > :59:19.the added incentive of seeing the other athlete in front of her and

:59:19. > :59:23.that gap is closing. Second by second here. The American takes the

:59:23. > :59:28.bell just over a lap to go for the Australian and it is not going to

:59:28. > :59:34.go the full distance here. might let her have it.

:59:34. > :59:40.She is going to enjoy this final lap. Maybe wave to the crowd. She

:59:40. > :59:44.does. Sarah Hammer takes the gun as the world champion for the fifth

:59:44. > :59:49.time in the women's individual pursuit and after the initial laps

:59:49. > :59:53.there with the fast start that we were expecting from Amy Cure, once

:59:53. > :59:58.Sarah Hammer got into her stride there was only going to be one

:59:58. > :00:02.winner of that event. She is one of the main figures in women's track

:00:02. > :00:11.cycling of recent years. She is a superb rider. She was almost lost

:00:11. > :00:17.to cycling in her career. She gave up and saw the limb the Olympics

:00:17. > :00:21.and thought, "Maybe I will take it up again.". She is the only

:00:21. > :00:27.American to take part in the championships. Plenty more events

:00:28. > :00:32.to come. It is about quality not quality.

:00:32. > :00:38.Sarah Hammer, great style as well as the speed. Really winning it up

:00:38. > :00:43.as the owe vent wore on. Untroubled by the fast, early start made by

:00:43. > :00:46.Amy Cure and there she is had the time to savour her victory and the

:00:46. > :00:50.celebrations will start now. It is gold for Sarah Hammer of the United

:00:50. > :00:54.States for the fifth time in her career. Silver for Australia, for

:00:54. > :00:58.Amy Cure and another Australian, Annette he had tonne son winning

:00:58. > :01:08.the bronze. -- Annette Edmondson winning the

:01:08. > :01:29.

:01:29. > :01:39.women's individual pursuit. Sarah Hammer is a very worthy winner for

:01:39. > :01:49.the 5th time in her career. We saw Kian Emadi-Coffin go in the men's

:01:49. > :01:51.

:01:51. > :01:55.kilo. He finished in 4th place and There were an anxious few moments,

:01:55. > :02:01.but you must be pleased with this first performance in a world

:02:01. > :02:08.championships? Definitely. I gave it my best and it would have been

:02:08. > :02:16.nice to get a medal, but it was more the performance. What were

:02:16. > :02:23.your thoughts over the last few minutes? You expect the guys at the

:02:23. > :02:27.end to go faster, so no real shock. There was talk about you stepping

:02:27. > :02:32.into the big shoes of Chris Hoy in the next couple of years ended that

:02:32. > :02:38.you are going to be riding as man three. How does that sit with you?

:02:38. > :02:43.I appreciate the comparison, but there is a long way to go. He is

:02:43. > :02:48.not just a rider, he is a role model and a pioneer of the sport.

:02:49. > :02:55.Give me a bit of time. What does your ride here today tell you about

:02:55. > :03:00.your form? There are good signs. The start was strong and the second

:03:00. > :03:05.lap was good in the kilo, which is good for the sprint. I will see how

:03:05. > :03:12.I can recover tonight and get into shape for tomorrow. You were right

:03:12. > :03:18.up there, world class. Thank you. We are going to start a swear box

:03:18. > :03:24.as to how many times you can stay two -- say to him, you are going to

:03:24. > :03:31.step into Chris Hoy's shoes. And we see a picture of Chris Hoy's shoes.

:03:31. > :03:35.He did really well. He had to do a job today and he was outstanding.

:03:36. > :03:40.You have to get that first ride out of the way and to have the kilo to

:03:40. > :03:44.do that where it is not an Olympic event and there is no pressure and

:03:44. > :03:50.nobody expects you to win, and it is good to get all the butterflies

:03:50. > :03:55.out. He will be in good shape for the team sprint. The women's team

:03:55. > :04:05.sprint has always been headline news with Victoria Pendle son, and

:04:05. > :04:08.

:04:08. > :04:14.it is down now to Victoria Williamson and Becky James. It is

:04:14. > :04:19.hard to come in at such a high level, having only raced at world

:04:19. > :04:27.level at junior level and at under 23, but it will be quite a big

:04:27. > :04:33.shock to come in at such a high level. It is a great opportunity

:04:33. > :04:36.for us. I have got no expectations in terms of outcome, I am just

:04:36. > :04:41.thinking about the process and my individual poor performance as part

:04:41. > :04:46.of the team. Obviously Becky is going in with higher expectations

:04:46. > :04:51.because she is more experienced and at a higher level than I am. As

:04:51. > :04:55.long as I do my best and hopefully get a personal best, I will be

:04:55. > :04:59.happy. It has been a good year and I have stayed healthy and injury-

:04:59. > :05:04.free and I have had a consistent block of training, so I am looking

:05:04. > :05:14.forward to it. The qualification took place a little earlier today.

:05:14. > :05:35.

:05:35. > :05:41.for a medal ride later on in this evening session? Kaarle McCulloch

:05:41. > :05:45.is riding for Australia. British coach told me they were

:05:45. > :05:50.going to try something special for the changeover and we saw that

:05:50. > :05:55.Becky James went right up the track to come back down and was

:05:55. > :06:02.accelerating on to the wheel and that was a clever move. And it is

:06:03. > :06:09.the fastest time for Great Britain. Marginally quicker than Australia.

:06:09. > :06:14.Interesting tactics and a swift ride for the pairing. This is a

:06:14. > :06:20.heavyweight match up, all power out in the blocks. The first lap could

:06:20. > :06:26.be absolutely key. There is unlikely to be very much between

:06:26. > :06:31.these at two at all. It could go down to the blinking of an eye.

:06:31. > :06:37.is interesting to see how they are going to change over. The Chinese

:06:37. > :06:47.pair were very close, but we have not seen a flag go up. Who has got

:06:47. > :06:48.

:06:49. > :06:58.the power and the legs to bring it home? It is Germany. These two will

:06:59. > :07:00.

:07:00. > :07:10.contest gold and silver later on this evening. Becky and Vicky and

:07:10. > :07:15.

:07:15. > :07:20.the bronze medal race. Will they be I think so. Jess Varnish has been

:07:20. > :07:26.struggling with an injury for a while, so I think they will be

:07:26. > :07:30.happy to be in the medals. A real state of flux in the women's team

:07:31. > :07:34.because Victoria Pendle son is gone. You have got Becky who is getting

:07:34. > :07:42.used to racing with Jess Varnish. Now you have got Vicky. It is not

:07:42. > :07:47.easy. It is difficult and we are struggling for numbers in women's

:07:47. > :07:50.sprinting in the GB set-up and we need more, his century. You can

:07:50. > :07:56.never have too many riders. It would be nice to have more to

:07:56. > :08:00.choose from at that level. But looking at Becky's times from her

:08:00. > :08:06.portion of the team sprint, she is in a phenomenal form and I am

:08:06. > :08:10.looking forward to seeing her in the individual event. They pair up

:08:10. > :08:16.again in the qualification. Do you learn much from these races, or are

:08:16. > :08:21.you just focusing on your own race? They tied -- tried a different

:08:21. > :08:26.tactic and you notice a Becky swung right up the track and before she

:08:26. > :08:31.started her part of the effort and that was to run into the slipstream

:08:31. > :08:39.of the Victoria before she gets out of the way. It effectively gives

:08:39. > :08:47.her more speed and it is easier to accelerate from. I suppose they

:08:47. > :08:52.will just refine that, or they may be warned by the connoisseur for

:08:52. > :09:00.doing that. Has this change in regulation been difficult for the

:09:00. > :09:06.athletes to get used to? We saw a disqualification in London. His is

:09:06. > :09:10.not difficult to get used to. It is such a narrow window in which to

:09:10. > :09:15.get out of the way if you are the rider in front. Basically you have

:09:15. > :09:21.to cross the line where you started before the rider behind you can

:09:21. > :09:25.overlap and you have got 50 metres to get out of the way. When you are

:09:25. > :09:31.doing 40 miles an hour, it is very difficult to judge that and is a

:09:31. > :09:41.small window to get out of the way. The men's team pursuit beach as the

:09:41. > :09:48.

:09:48. > :09:55.double Olympic champion Ed Clancy. -- features. It is a new world

:09:55. > :10:02.record and Great Britain have won the gold medal. London was quite an

:10:02. > :10:08.exciting thing and it will be pretty low key compared to London.

:10:08. > :10:13.It is just an opportunity for us to enjoy racing and competing. We have

:10:13. > :10:23.not got a lot to lose and if things go well and we win the world's

:10:23. > :10:28.championship, great, but we have not got a lot to lose. Glasgow

:10:28. > :10:34.started well in terms of the team sprint project. The whole idea was

:10:34. > :10:39.I could go into Rio looking at the team sprint and team pursuit.

:10:39. > :10:44.Sounds quite easy to add a bit too you start and concentrates

:10:44. > :10:49.specifically on that and mould yourself into a team sprinter and

:10:49. > :10:55.keep the team pursuit, but it is not that easy a. I have still got

:10:55. > :11:01.to make any progress and it is quite is heartening. I guess they

:11:01. > :11:06.named the team sprint not so long ago and I was not part of it, so I

:11:06. > :11:10.turned to the pursuit and thought, I will give that a go. I started

:11:10. > :11:16.riding bikes because I enjoyed riding bikes and I enjoyed racing

:11:16. > :11:23.and it is still the same today. There are people in our team who

:11:23. > :11:27.have won so much more than me. But I have to take advantage of these

:11:27. > :11:33.opportunities. At the moment we are all right, but you never know what

:11:33. > :11:37.the situation will be in four years time going to Rio. We could end up

:11:37. > :11:40.fighting for our places. At the moment it is great that there are

:11:40. > :11:47.all these young kids coming into the team, but we do not want them

:11:47. > :11:51.to get too good! The men's team pursuit qualified comfortably. They

:11:51. > :11:56.were in second place behind the Australians and they will face off

:11:56. > :12:06.against their normal rivals in this event. Slightly ragged towards the

:12:06. > :12:07.

:12:07. > :12:14.end. It is interesting about Ed Clancy and we are back in Glasgow

:12:14. > :12:19.and he was looking to do the team sprint. But he was pushed back

:12:19. > :12:23.towards the insurance side with the team pursuit. I do not think he has

:12:23. > :12:28.ruled himself out of the team sprint. He has only been doing it

:12:28. > :12:32.since the Olympics, so it is not a long time to make that a turnaround.

:12:32. > :12:39.Now that he has realised it is not going to be a simple process or an

:12:39. > :12:47.overnight thing, he is going to go away and work on it, especially in

:12:47. > :12:52.terms of torque production of the line. It is about staying with

:12:52. > :12:57.Fridays and it is completely different. Tomorrow Victoria

:12:57. > :13:05.Pendleton will be my guest. We are finishing on BBC Two, but we will

:13:05. > :13:12.be on the red button for the finals. The women's team sprint is the

:13:12. > :13:17.bronze medal race for Great Britain. The Australians were just quicker

:13:17. > :13:23.in qualification for the men's team pursuit. Tomorrow we have more
