:00:43. > :00:47.Good afternoon and welcome to back to our coverage of the World

:00:47. > :00:51.Cycling Championships in Minsk in Belarus. They once saw the British

:00:51. > :00:55.Cycling team win two medals and day to did as well and day three did as

:00:55. > :00:59.well so high hopes for day four. Nothing guaranteed in sport but

:00:59. > :01:04.after the drama of yesterday with Simon Yates and Jason Kenny both

:01:04. > :01:08.taking gold, anything can happen and I'm delighted to say that Craig

:01:09. > :01:14.McLean and Victoria Pendleton are alongside me. It was a mad hour

:01:14. > :01:19.yesterday when they won within 30 minutes of each other. A fantastic

:01:19. > :01:23.points race by Simon Yates, he was very courageous. Completely

:01:23. > :01:26.unexpected, we mentioned it yesterday, he did not have a

:01:26. > :01:32.biography on the British Cycling website, it is a fantastic website

:01:32. > :01:37.but he is so unknown. A definitely has a biography now. In terms of

:01:37. > :01:41.Jason Kenny and the keirin, he looked out of sorts in this

:01:41. > :01:48.championship. The teams Brent did not go so well, not the easiest

:01:48. > :01:54.path to the final. The semi-final was particularly difficult, and he

:01:54. > :02:02.got the last minute reprieve when one cyclist was relegated. A real

:02:02. > :02:06.turn around. He got in the repechage Ellie on. Some times that

:02:06. > :02:10.happens in your favour. Maybe not on that occasion and he found

:02:11. > :02:16.himself boxed in in the semi-final. Victoria, it almost like he got the

:02:16. > :02:22.kick up the pants he needed. Post Olympic Games and win a world title,

:02:22. > :02:26.you did it in 2008/09 and Jason did not look in the mood and that bit

:02:26. > :02:31.of luck turned his mind set. It was a wonderful opportunity to get in

:02:31. > :02:35.there and do a good keirin race, he would have been annoyed about

:02:35. > :02:41.getting boxed in and not getting chance to express how well his legs

:02:41. > :02:44.are going. To get that chance to take it on a second time in a final

:02:44. > :02:48.of the World Championships, you need quite a lot of faith in Jason

:02:48. > :02:57.coming up with the goods. A great day yesterday, now focusing on

:02:57. > :03:04.Becky James already has two bronze medals, she goes for gold a little

:03:04. > :03:07.later on in the women's sprint. Jason Kenny is the Olympic champion

:03:07. > :03:15.in the men's sprint and that black gold medal in the keirin yesterday,

:03:15. > :03:21.who knows what might happen a there? And then Laura Trott is back

:03:22. > :03:28.on track in the omnium. Points race and the elimination race, can she

:03:28. > :03:32.defend his title as well as the team pursuit she did earlier on?

:03:32. > :03:37.Concentrating on the women's sprint, Kristina Vogel of Germany in that.

:03:37. > :03:47.We will look at the semi-final this morning, Vicky, take us through

:03:47. > :03:51.this, coming up to the Bell. Peggy -- Becky died down in the track, a

:03:51. > :03:54.risky bet confident Miniver and it paid off because it caught her

:03:54. > :04:04.unawares and she could not recover from it. It was a great spread by

:04:04. > :04:08.Becky. This was the title you won a year ago, wasn't it? It would be

:04:08. > :04:13.wonderful if Becky took over your crown. Yes, it is a tough event and

:04:13. > :04:21.to go through so many rounds and make minimal mistakes, it is tough

:04:21. > :04:26.and she has taken advantage of her opponent and winning very

:04:26. > :04:30.comfortably. You saw the audacity of that move, but she is building

:04:30. > :04:36.in confidence, she has got these two bronze medals, he has almost

:04:36. > :04:40.come of age. The way she approached that ride, she obviously did have a

:04:40. > :04:45.lot of confidence. It is not a member of the you try if you were

:04:45. > :04:48.not feeling capable of pulling it off, she took it on, saw a gap, did

:04:48. > :04:54.not think twice, she did not hesitate so it goes to show her

:04:54. > :04:57.mindset going into that match. She is really up for it. He is up

:04:57. > :05:04.against Kristina Vogel in the final for the gold medal and the bronze

:05:04. > :05:14.medal, it is Lee of Hong Kong and Chris Boardman is in the commentary

:05:14. > :05:19.

:05:19. > :05:24.Kong at the front and the Chinese behind. The Hong Kong rider is the

:05:24. > :05:31.new time trial champion. The winner of Hong Kong's first ever cycling

:05:31. > :05:35.medal, a bronze in the keirin in London last year and the Chinese

:05:35. > :05:42.cyclist won two silver medals, in the keirin and the team sprint.

:05:42. > :05:52.Well beaten in the semi-final, 2-0 by Becky James. Today a lot of

:05:52. > :05:56.

:05:56. > :06:06.confidence from that performing overall World Cup winner here in

:06:06. > :06:07.

:06:07. > :06:17.both the individual sprint and the experienced competitors on the

:06:17. > :06:51.

:06:51. > :06:55.the Hong Kong athlete take the lead needs all the acceleration, it is

:06:55. > :06:59.all about the back straight, this is where the race is won and lost.

:06:59. > :07:03.Look at the acceleration. Will she be able to get onto the shoulder,

:07:03. > :07:12.lost her balance there, nearly collided and it was close on the

:07:12. > :07:17.line but leak took it on the line but it was a fearsome burst of

:07:17. > :07:27.speed down the back straight and then coming off that bank which

:07:27. > :07:32.

:07:32. > :07:37.almost salvaged the first match, the Hong Kong athlete hanging on.

:07:37. > :07:47.First time lining up for Becky James, in fantastic form, I would

:07:47. > :08:11.

:08:11. > :08:17.match, at the moment happy to trail the German. Becky James was the

:08:18. > :08:22.fastest qualifier, that set the seeding for the competition. She

:08:22. > :08:28.has sailed through the competition smoothly, it must be said. And she

:08:28. > :08:34.was particularly impressive in the way she dispatched the Chinese

:08:34. > :08:39.cyclist in the final, 2-0. Bury confident in the press and raising

:08:39. > :08:46.eyebrows, her own form running into this. That could help has also seen

:08:46. > :08:51.her through this heavy competition she has had so far. Two medals

:08:51. > :08:58.already this week, two bronze for Becky James from the team sprint

:08:58. > :09:02.and the women's 500 metres time trial. 1.5 laps to go. Starting to

:09:02. > :09:06.wind up. The good Hyde, Vogel pulling it down the bottom of the

:09:06. > :09:10.track and Becky James has got the inside line, she is in control with

:09:10. > :09:14.one lap to go. Kristina Vogel left the back door open at there and

:09:14. > :09:19.straight through went Becky James. She is in a great position to take

:09:19. > :09:24.a 1-0 lead in this final. Has he been a threw got the speed to come

:09:24. > :09:28.back? Not quite, 1-0 for Becky James. A great closing sprint.

:09:28. > :09:37.James taking control when Kristina Vogel went very high on the banking

:09:37. > :09:41.with just over a lap to go. Vogel tried to control it but... Although

:09:41. > :09:51.looking about photo finish? It has gone to Kristina Vogel but it

:09:51. > :10:05.

:10:05. > :10:11.cannot have been by more than one STUDIO: Going straight back to

:10:11. > :10:13.Minsk now for the second race in a bronze match, Chris and Simon, your

:10:13. > :10:18.commentators. COMMENTATOR: Our result system did

:10:18. > :10:21.initially give that race to Becky James but it swiftly turned on its

:10:22. > :10:25.head so she has to win in a couple of minutes time when they come back

:10:25. > :10:30.out on the track but at the moment we are watching the second match up

:10:30. > :10:40.in the best-of-three race for the bronze medal for between China and

:10:40. > :11:03.

:11:03. > :11:10.moment, the more experience of a two. If the Hong Kong cyclist wins

:11:10. > :11:15.this, she will get the bronze medal. Closing all the time and here comes

:11:15. > :11:21.the challenge. Has she got the speed to take it on the line? It is

:11:21. > :11:27.the close but I think she has got it. The Hong Kong cyclist, the

:11:27. > :11:31.flagbearer at London 2012, the 500 metres time trial world champion

:11:31. > :11:35.here earlier this week has another medal to add to her collection. The

:11:35. > :11:41.bronze medal from the women's individual sprint, Guo Shuang

:11:41. > :11:46.beaten 2-0 in the semi-final by Becky James and beaten in straight

:11:46. > :11:50.rides here for the bronze. Nice to see someone having delight in the

:11:50. > :11:58.medals. Fantastic exoneration going into the final banking curve as

:11:58. > :12:08.well, Guo Shuang had their response to that -- fantastic acceleration.

:12:08. > :12:12.

:12:12. > :12:17.These competitors see each other a finding herself in the last chance

:12:17. > :12:23.saloon here in this final. So close as you saw in the first ride. But

:12:23. > :12:28.from her point of you, not quite close enough. If somebody said,

:12:28. > :12:33.Becky James, you will go home with a hatful of battles, you will find

:12:33. > :12:38.yourself in the world sprint final then she would have taken your arm

:12:38. > :12:43.off. Fantastic progression she has had. She has had a great week and

:12:43. > :12:46.whatever happens here, he will win her third battle of these World

:12:46. > :12:50.Championships. Bronze in the team sprint, bronze in the 500 metres

:12:50. > :12:54.time trial and she has looked really good in this sprint

:12:54. > :12:58.competition. One move in particular in the semi-final in the second

:12:58. > :13:08.race against Guo Shuang showed real guts and craft as well as pure

:13:08. > :13:15.

:13:15. > :13:18.speed. Vogel better known for a team sprint track record. Equal

:13:18. > :13:22.footing in many cases but the German has got the lead at the

:13:23. > :13:28.moment. You are looking at the future of women's sprinting, Anna

:13:28. > :13:31.Meares yet to come back in after having time out and Becky James at

:13:31. > :13:41.21 and Kristina Vogel at 22, this is probably not the last time they

:13:41. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:54.will meet in a very big important the track. Becky James leading,

:13:54. > :13:57.easing their way into this one, watching each other like hawks.

:13:57. > :14:02.Becky James openly saying that she had a fantastic block of training

:14:02. > :14:08.coming into these championships as she has certainly proved that, with

:14:08. > :14:16.the way she has performed this week. It is a lot of racing form, lots of

:14:16. > :14:20.events have lots of rounds in each of those. When she first came to

:14:20. > :14:23.people's attention, racing for Wales in New Delhi in the

:14:23. > :14:33.Commonwealth Games, silver medal in the individual sprint against Anna

:14:33. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :15:00.Meares in the final. But really element of surprise. She wants to

:15:00. > :15:04.take the lead. Kristina Vogel deciding she will not hang around.

:15:04. > :15:08.Becky James has got to pull this race out of the back. She needs to

:15:08. > :15:14.cross the line first to still be in with the chance of a gold medal.

:15:14. > :15:19.Here we go on the final lap. If she has given her quite a lot of rope,

:15:19. > :15:24.she has given herself a wheel to a mat, she is accelerating hard on

:15:24. > :15:30.the outside. She has made it! James makes it on the line, it will

:15:30. > :15:34.go to a third and final decisive right. Excellent sprinting from

:15:34. > :15:41.Becky James to level the World Championship final at 1-1.

:15:41. > :15:46.thought she would do better having the wheel to I'm out. -- to aim at.

:15:46. > :15:50.I think she has the superior acceleration and speed. The last

:15:50. > :15:55.race was a surprise to me, I thought she might have got it but

:15:55. > :15:58.she has kept itself in contention. Becky James a clear winner of match

:15:58. > :16:02.two in the best of three women sprint final, she is still in with

:16:02. > :16:08.the chance of becoming a world the chance of becoming a world

:16:08. > :16:11.champion. That final will be a roundabout six

:16:11. > :16:20.stiff -- 6:15pm, although the schedule seems to be a moveable

:16:20. > :16:23.feast. Both Craigend Victoria were impressed? Definitely, I thought

:16:23. > :16:28.that Kristina Vogel might take the lead, and she did. Playing entirely

:16:28. > :16:33.into Becky's hands. For some reason from the safe position of riding

:16:33. > :16:37.she just came over the top and decided to try to control the race.

:16:37. > :16:44.Becky took advantage, she took a really nice gap and it gave her

:16:44. > :16:50.space to accelerate in the final bend. At that stage, you were

:16:50. > :16:55.saying, get on the fence! And she did. She got some height, she got a

:16:55. > :17:01.lovely gap. She did not panic, she was in the slipstream. She took

:17:01. > :17:05.advantage of the gap and accelerated at such speed. It was

:17:06. > :17:10.pretty comfortable? Yes. At one point she looked like she was

:17:10. > :17:15.struggling. In the first round, Vogel had the benefit of running

:17:15. > :17:20.into Becky's slipstream. I don't think Vogel has the legs to go for

:17:20. > :17:24.it. This next race will be really hard, she looks fatigue. They are

:17:24. > :17:29.different in terms of stature, Becky might have more endurance?

:17:29. > :17:33.Becky is very fit at the moment, she has lost a lot of weight, she

:17:33. > :17:37.is more lean, it has helped her in terms of the insurance side. She

:17:37. > :17:41.has backed up these rights very successfully and she looks in the

:17:41. > :17:47.best shape, physically, I've ever seen her, and she feels it, you can

:17:47. > :17:52.see it. What should she do in raise three? Ideally a carbon copy of

:17:52. > :17:56.that one. Bogor will probably revert back to the -- to the tactic

:17:56. > :18:03.which work for her in the first place, it will be a tussle.

:18:03. > :18:07.Advantage Becky? I think so. In a race like that, Vogel just gave it

:18:07. > :18:13.away. She made a bad decision, Becky reacted and made the right

:18:13. > :18:17.decision, she took the gap and the height and played it perfectly. She

:18:18. > :18:24.will think, what can I do? I tried to control it and Becky still won.

:18:24. > :18:31.I think that he will be in a strong position. She has put her neck,

:18:31. > :18:35.line! I'm very confident. -- put her neck on the line.

:18:36. > :18:45.Let's catch up with the men's sprint, Jason Kenny going in this.

:18:46. > :18:50.

:18:50. > :18:58.This was his match against Webster Kenny is near as the camera. Held

:18:58. > :19:06.up by Iain Dyer. Jason Kenny, the new world keirin champion. The

:19:06. > :19:09.winner of three Olympic gold medals already at the age of just 24.

:19:09. > :19:16.Facing him in his quarter-final, Sam Obst of New Zealand, the

:19:16. > :19:21.national champion of New Zealand, triple world junior champion in

:19:21. > :19:25.2009 -- Sam Webster from New Zealand.

:19:25. > :19:29.We must take into consideration that they have several sprint

:19:29. > :19:37.competitions under their belt -- under their belt, the team sprint,

:19:37. > :19:42.the keirin, all of them containing runs. Jason looks better and better

:19:42. > :19:48.as this World Championship goes on. He certainly does. He was the 7th

:19:48. > :19:54.fastest in the qualifying ride this morning, but as you were saying, he

:19:54. > :20:00.has improved as the day went on, just as he did yesterday. Very

:20:00. > :20:05.closely run in the 8th final, the last round. A good match with the

:20:05. > :20:13.German, it went to a photo finish, Jason Kenny just edged it. A really

:20:13. > :20:20.good sprint between them. They're just coming round to the

:20:20. > :20:29.two laps to go board. We might see some more pace injected into this

:20:29. > :20:39.race soon. Webster might find this difficult from the back position.

:20:39. > :20:39.

:20:39. > :20:49.He beat the Spaniard in the last round. Jason Kenny was the world

:20:49. > :20:53.

:20:53. > :20:58.champion in 2011. Jason Kenny is trying to draw

:20:58. > :21:03.Webster down to the bottom of the track. Kenny takes the bell and is

:21:03. > :21:10.in control as Webster tries to close the back -- the gap. Jason

:21:10. > :21:20.Kenny needs to respond. Tight on the inside line, very close. Sam

:21:20. > :21:22.

:21:22. > :21:32.Webster tapes it -- takes it and Leeds 1-0. A slightly surprising

:21:32. > :21:40.

:21:40. > :21:47.result. Webster wrote superbly. -- Jason Kenny is in the last-chance

:21:47. > :21:52.saloon, he needs to win the next heat. Jason Kenny has to win this

:21:52. > :21:59.race against Sam Webster. Webster is one-0 up in this best of three

:21:59. > :22:06.quarter-final. Jason Kenny already with the gold medal. That was from

:22:06. > :22:10.the keirin. He has to perform here and now if he wants to maintain an

:22:10. > :22:19.interest in the individual sprint competition. A great opportunity

:22:19. > :22:22.for the youngster, Sam Webster, to ride against the Olympic champion.

:22:22. > :22:28.What an experience he had done the previous round, a very sharp

:22:28. > :22:36.acceleration down the back straight. They are both doing very, very well

:22:36. > :22:44.in this competition. Jason Kenny proofing and the keirin

:22:44. > :22:54.final yesterday that he has the speed. No finesse here, they are

:22:54. > :22:57.accelerating already with two laps to go. Webster is keen to make it

:22:57. > :23:01.difficult for Jason Kenny to know which side to pass. Kenny is

:23:01. > :23:06.keeping his height for the acceleration. Webster knows what he

:23:06. > :23:12.is doing. Going for a long way out before the bell, Jason Kenny has

:23:12. > :23:19.some catching up to do. Sam Webster leading the way. Here comes Jason

:23:19. > :23:25.Kenny closing the gap. Not closing the gap nearly enough. 2-0 in the

:23:25. > :23:32.quarter final. 10.1 seconds from the front, not from the top of the

:23:32. > :23:36.Bank, that is very quick Paul Webster. We shouldn't underestimate

:23:36. > :23:44.what Jason Webster was up against, that was a world-class sprinter by

:23:44. > :23:54.any standards. Fantastic sprinting from Webster, the new sprint

:23:54. > :23:54.

:23:55. > :23:59.champion of New Zealand. Making his mark among the seniors. Webster

:23:59. > :24:09.making light work of that straight through. Straight through to the

:24:09. > :24:13.Jason Kenny out at the quarter- finals, what did he do wrong?

:24:13. > :24:17.Nothing that would have made a difference. Webster just looks the

:24:17. > :24:23.superior athlete at this point. Jason was tired, he had no control

:24:23. > :24:31.after the keirin, he could have had a bad sleep. Webster has had a day

:24:31. > :24:36.off, he will be fresher. Tactically, Jason was OK, I think. In the

:24:36. > :24:40.second round, Webster got a real jump on him? He just looked like

:24:40. > :24:45.when he accelerated it was with such force, it was such a dynamic

:24:45. > :24:50.race, he really wanted it. I think Sam Webster really wanted to put

:24:50. > :24:56.Jason away in the second rider and be done with it, he did a great job.

:24:56. > :25:02.Sam just looked in fantastic shape. Perhaps for Jason, a gold medal in

:25:02. > :25:06.the bag, it felt as Little -- it felt a bit like, job done? From my

:25:07. > :25:11.personal experience, once you have won one title, maintain and that

:25:11. > :25:15.momentum through the competition day after day is really difficult.

:25:15. > :25:20.Maybe you just was not in the right shape to date coming into the

:25:20. > :25:23.competition. Overall, I think Jason will come away from the

:25:23. > :25:32.championships feeling he has moved on from the Olympic hang over that

:25:32. > :25:36.we talked about for so many cyclists? A clear line drawn?

:25:37. > :25:41.Coming back into a world championships after an Olympic

:25:41. > :25:45.Games is a real reality check when all visit and you have three riders

:25:45. > :25:50.per nation and they are all really good quality. It makes the whole

:25:50. > :25:59.competition, from the early rounds, so much harder. The men's omnium

:25:59. > :26:03.reaches its conclusion today. The Britain was 12th over night. We can

:26:03. > :26:10.now look at the individual pursuit now look at the individual pursuit

:26:10. > :26:17.and the scratch race. Jon Dibben began the on the month -

:26:17. > :26:24.- omnium had daytime good enough for fit place. Glenn O'Shea and

:26:24. > :26:29.Lasse Norman Hansen led the way. The New Zealander was the fastest,

:26:29. > :26:34.meaning that after four events, Glenn O'Shea lead. In the

:26:34. > :26:38.penultimate event, the scratch race, Dibben teamed up with a Belgian to

:26:38. > :26:45.gain a lap on the rest of the field. The 19 year-old from Southampton

:26:45. > :26:55.earned just one point. Gate came home in 5th, one better than O'Shea,

:26:55. > :26:59.

:26:59. > :27:05.meaning the Antipodean pair are Great job from Jonathan Dibben. The

:27:05. > :27:15.final event of the omnium is the kilo. Once again, Simon and Chris

:27:15. > :27:16.

:27:16. > :27:25.time trial in the men's omnium, a few riders to go before we see Jon

:27:25. > :27:29.Dibben. We are looking at the Ukrainian rider at the moment.

:27:30. > :27:35.Sorry, he has just finished, it is the rider from Kazakhstan and the

:27:35. > :27:40.one from Belarus, they are out on the track, they go in pairs, four

:27:40. > :27:45.laps of the track. A quick word about Jon Dibben, he was fit in the

:27:45. > :27:51.omnium in Glasgow earlier in the winter, that was his senior World

:27:51. > :28:01.Cup debut. He has come back up through the standings. The longer

:28:01. > :28:02.

:28:02. > :28:06.it has gone on, the better he has fared? He is flying, he won the

:28:06. > :28:11.scratch race. He really is getting better and better. He has acquitted

:28:11. > :28:16.himself extremely, extremely well. Great experience for him. They're

:28:16. > :28:22.going reverse order, so the riders bottom of the overall standings

:28:22. > :28:26.going first, the medal contenders will be the first out. So the rider

:28:26. > :28:29.from the Czech Republic has set the fastest times so far, but by no

:28:29. > :28:33.means is he likely to be near the top of the leaderboard when we come

:28:33. > :28:36.to the end. But just because you are near the back overall does that

:28:37. > :28:41.necessarily mean you will do a bad time in this event, it might be

:28:41. > :28:46.your speciality. Absolutely. They are very respectable times when you

:28:46. > :28:56.consider that this is the 6th event in this competition, they have been

:28:56. > :29:04.

:29:04. > :29:07.Kazakhstan. They are coming up to the end of their right. The

:29:07. > :29:14.Kazakhstan was 5th in the tour of Vietnam last year, he rides on the

:29:14. > :29:18.road as well. He got a bronze medal from the Asian Championships but he

:29:18. > :29:22.is well down the overall standings. A you mention them riding on the

:29:22. > :29:26.road, these days they will go through the winter track season and

:29:26. > :29:30.you would think that they might be on holiday now, but lots of them

:29:30. > :29:33.will take up their position with their professional or semi-

:29:33. > :29:37.professional teams and start doing there full road season, it is a

:29:37. > :29:43.full-time job. I think people are treating the omnium differently

:29:43. > :29:48.these days now it is part of the Olympic programme. A Olympic medals

:29:48. > :29:52.are becoming more and more valuable, commercially as well with the

:29:52. > :29:58.global media. There is a lot more sponsorship available for these

:29:58. > :30:02.athletes. It just becomes more and more professional as people try to

:30:02. > :30:12.win. We used to see riders riding on the road and dropping to the

:30:12. > :30:30.

:30:30. > :30:36.track for a few weeks, now it is Switzerland racing now. -- madison

:30:36. > :30:46.champion. The French cyclist has been entertaining us over the past

:30:46. > :31:06.

:31:06. > :31:10.24 hours, third place in the points week, the one kilometre race, just

:31:10. > :31:16.four laps of the track but the hardest laps you could ever think

:31:17. > :31:21.of. They were absolutely in bits and the speed difference from third

:31:21. > :31:26.to last lap was something in the region of 10 kilometres of our, so

:31:26. > :31:32.much damage can they do. These guys are more endurance-based, they do

:31:32. > :31:38.not have as much. They do not die off too much towards the end.

:31:38. > :31:44.Italians started reasonably well in this, -- the Swiss, but he

:31:44. > :31:54.struggled in the points race. 16th in that, he lost a lot of ground at

:31:54. > :32:07.

:32:07. > :32:13.there in the bunch races but he lap. He rode the advantage.

:32:13. > :32:17.One of the big problems with the omnium, it is timing. Within any

:32:17. > :32:22.given championship. We might have expected Ed Clancy to be riding

:32:22. > :32:26.this, he has had success in this, he won the bronze medal in the

:32:26. > :32:33.London Games but not taking part here. I don't think aid can

:32:33. > :32:39.consider himself a specialist. -- added that Ed Clancy can consider.

:32:39. > :32:43.He ended up becoming world champion and the slot that naturally went to

:32:43. > :32:52.him, but his first love was always the team pursuit which he

:32:52. > :32:56.prioritised and on this occasion, he chose to give the opportunity of

:32:56. > :33:00.experience to a young rider to try these events for the first time.

:33:00. > :33:05.They say this is not about winning primarily for the British team, it

:33:06. > :33:12.is about giving riders a chance, a potential squad for Rio.

:33:12. > :33:17.retract has also said, she is an Olympic and the world champion in

:33:17. > :33:23.the omnium, she does not specifically prepare for that but

:33:23. > :33:26.she is able to prepare on the back of that. The skill set is there,

:33:26. > :33:31.they are highly skilled riders and they have lost a tactical training

:33:31. > :33:35.early in their training and wants that is in the back, you can

:33:35. > :33:43.continue focusing on the physicality in the team pursuit --

:33:44. > :33:48.in the bag. The Spaniard will be next out of the starters gate. The

:33:48. > :33:54.European champion at the omnium, third in Glasgow on the other side

:33:54. > :34:01.of the track as the clock continues to take away and up against Hong

:34:01. > :34:04.Kong. Four national titles and a European crown to his name, at

:34:05. > :34:10.there is the cyclist from Hong Kong who was the World scratch race

:34:10. > :34:20.champion in 2011. And the road race champion of Hong Kong as well. A

:34:20. > :34:41.

:34:41. > :34:51.rider who likes to switch from the seconds, they are very respectable.

:34:51. > :34:55.

:34:55. > :34:59.I one -- a 1:two seconds but is a the other side of the track, they

:34:59. > :35:08.are not strictly racing against each other, it is a way of getting

:35:08. > :35:15.through the field more quickly. wind is still circulating when you

:35:15. > :35:23.come round. The conceit is that into head for the Spaniard -- you

:35:23. > :35:27.can see it is starting to hurt. They will not come top of the

:35:27. > :35:31.leaderboard, the Spaniard is the 5th fastest and Kwok, back in 8th

:35:31. > :35:36.place, they will both finish considerably lower than that once

:35:36. > :35:44.the favourites have been out. But we are heading towards Jon Dibben

:35:44. > :35:54.of Great Britain, he will be in the next pairing. The Belgian rider in

:35:54. > :35:55.

:35:55. > :36:04.the other place. Jon Dibben will be on the track shot live. The --

:36:04. > :36:10.shortly. Well-paced and considered ride, following his progressive

:36:10. > :36:14.trend of the past 24 hours. Absolutely. 19 years of age, he was

:36:14. > :36:19.19 earlier this month in the Olympic Academy programme, at a

:36:19. > :36:29.silver medallist in the omnium last year at here he is in the senior

:36:29. > :36:37.

:36:37. > :36:42.might not himself up a couple of places. See him perhaps going

:36:42. > :36:45.towards faith but we have a superb ride for him. So much talent in the

:36:45. > :36:48.British squad. That will be interesting to see which way Jon

:36:48. > :36:54.Dibben does as he moves forward, whether he concentrates on the

:36:54. > :36:57.track or the road because he was 5th in the world junior road race

:36:57. > :37:01.championship last September that he was in the mixed right at the end,

:37:01. > :37:07.in the sprint for the line so potentially could have success on

:37:07. > :37:17.the road. What of precedent as well with Bradley Wiggins, Geraint

:37:17. > :37:22.

:37:22. > :37:30.would not be surprised if this is the fuss that we have seen today.

:37:30. > :37:35.De Buyst is a team pursuit cyclist as well for Belgium. Nice and clean

:37:35. > :37:42.into position for Jon Dibben. fastest so far out of those who

:37:42. > :37:48.have been out on the track. A looks like he is in a good position.

:37:48. > :37:51.John didn't gain some ground? 11th in the flying lap, 9th in the

:37:51. > :38:01.elimination, 5th in the individual pursuit and winner of the scratch

:38:01. > :38:08.

:38:08. > :38:12.trend. He has slipped back. Dibben must dig deep for a few

:38:12. > :38:19.seconds here and then his omnium will come to a close but it has

:38:19. > :38:29.been a solid performance from him. Up to the line now, it was

:38:29. > :38:31.

:38:31. > :38:41.consistent. All the way through. Gives him third place. A third

:38:41. > :38:45.

:38:45. > :38:55.place for the Belgian, the Swiss minute of pain ahead of him at that

:38:55. > :39:03.

:39:03. > :39:13.particular point. A minute from the this particular time, this is just

:39:13. > :39:15.

:39:15. > :39:21.for the kilo time trial. De Buyst up into third. Jon Dibben his 6th.

:39:21. > :39:29.We are looking at the Russian cyclist here. Not really on the

:39:29. > :39:33.form we have seen him in the past, he has done himself well in the

:39:33. > :39:43.competition so far but I don't think he is quite the best we have

:39:43. > :39:43.

:39:43. > :39:47.seen him in. He can also write a good kilometre. Artur Ershov ended

:39:47. > :39:53.up falling off early in the ride, he was going up the top of the

:39:53. > :40:03.banking and came a cropper and very quickly Russia were down to three.

:40:03. > :40:07.Just one more heat now until we have got the medal ride. Tim, the

:40:07. > :40:10.vastly more experienced rider in the bright orange. A World

:40:10. > :40:16.Championship silver medallist, he has won a bronze in the past as

:40:16. > :40:25.well. Outside the medals this time, 5th at the start, Artur Ershov is

:40:25. > :40:30.sixth overall. Very different styles there. A bit shaky, it will

:40:30. > :40:36.taking a while to get into his stride. Tim really got into his

:40:36. > :40:40.stride in the elimination race, and he won that. A third fastest there

:40:40. > :40:44.so he is riding true to form and he looked very comfortable in

:40:44. > :40:52.possession there as he drives round his second lap. Tim is looking

:40:52. > :41:00.strong, still the fastest, stirring no sign of tying up so far. I think

:41:00. > :41:05.we will see a new leader here. He looks well in control. Tim takes

:41:05. > :41:15.the bell and still has the fastest time. With just four riders to come

:41:15. > :41:15.

:41:15. > :41:25.after him. Starting to tie up a bit now. It will be really higher --

:41:25. > :41:35.hurting now. He is the new leader. That will be tough to beat. 3.2 is

:41:35. > :41:35.

:41:36. > :41:39.very respectable, he will be tough to beat. Tim, a picture of

:41:39. > :41:44.determination right from the opening and he set the fastest time

:41:44. > :41:49.throughout. Great technique out of the gate. More of a sprinter.

:41:49. > :41:53.People have come at this event from different angles. Some are fast in

:41:53. > :41:57.the final lap and a kilometre time trial and survive in the longer

:41:57. > :42:03.event. Tim is one of them, he has the best of power and can get it

:42:03. > :42:09.all out. The one kilometre was always one of his favourite event.

:42:09. > :42:12.Tim goes to the top of the leaderboard and the Swiss rider it

:42:12. > :42:19.nudged down into second place. Almost one second in between them

:42:19. > :42:25.in terms of the time. This is Lasse Hansen from Denmark. Really

:42:25. > :42:31.exciting talent. The Olympic champion. These riders have got

:42:31. > :42:39.such an enormous lead between third and 4th. Lasse Hansen has 19 points,

:42:39. > :42:49.and Lucas Liss has 33 so a huge buffer so this is a question of can

:42:49. > :42:50.

:42:50. > :42:54.Lasse Hansen overtake? Lasse Hansen won the bronze medal in the World

:42:54. > :42:58.Championships last year, that is where he is now, two points behind

:42:58. > :43:03.the gold medal positions. He had a bad ride in the elimination races

:43:03. > :43:10.and drop a few points. So important to be consistent. No sure if he ran

:43:10. > :43:15.out of steam or just got it wrong tactically and was caught out.

:43:15. > :43:21.Lucas Liss, every German start there really skilled out of the

:43:21. > :43:28.gate but Lasse Hansen is sharp and wiry. Lucas Liss is absolutely

:43:28. > :43:34.flying, the German rider. They have high hopes of a podium finish for

:43:34. > :43:39.him back in Germany. He wants to finish in style. They are very

:43:39. > :43:44.strong start but very expensive with energy. He is still in first

:43:44. > :43:53.position at 500 metres. Will he still be in the lead at 750? He won

:43:53. > :43:57.the omnium in the world event in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Lucas

:43:57. > :44:03.Liss must hang on for one more lap, starting to feel it but not slowing

:44:03. > :44:07.too much at all, to be honest. Lasse Hansen third fastest, did he

:44:08. > :44:12.have a lot left in the tank, he had lots left in the tank. That was a

:44:12. > :44:17.great lap. A stunning ride from the Danish rider and the Olympic

:44:17. > :44:19.champion stamping authority over this kilometre time trial. A both

:44:19. > :44:25.riders under one minute and three seconds and I thought somebody

:44:25. > :44:29.might slip under but to go under by a fall half a second, that is

:44:29. > :44:34.astonishing and all done in the closing laps. They did not slow at

:44:34. > :44:38.all. A respectable start, Lasse Hansen and then he just did not

:44:38. > :44:43.slow for the remainder of the race. I have to say, at the end of a

:44:43. > :44:47.competition like this, a superb ride from Lasse Hansen. He is not a

:44:47. > :44:54.specialist at this in particular, he rides on the road and has a bit

:44:54. > :45:04.of everything. It was very good riding from him. We have got the

:45:04. > :45:14.

:45:14. > :45:19.one final pairing to go in the He is the team pursuit bronze

:45:19. > :45:24.medallist from the London Olympics. And there is the defending champion,

:45:24. > :45:29.Glenn O'Shea from Australia. O'Shea did not win a single event last

:45:29. > :45:34.year but he finished 6th or better in every single one of them, which

:45:34. > :45:39.led to him taking the world title. They are level on points, so if

:45:39. > :45:46.they were to finish this event on the same points, they take all of

:45:46. > :45:50.that time events, the flying lap of the one kilometre and the pursuit,

:45:50. > :45:56.they pull that amount of time and it is whoever has the shortest time.

:45:56. > :46:02.Gate has a four-second buffer, so if it finished equal times he would

:46:02. > :46:06.only -- almost certainly be ahead of O'Shea. O'Shea is normally

:46:06. > :46:12.better in the kilometre, but Aaron Gate is better in the individual

:46:12. > :46:16.pursuit. Oh, there is a technical issue with O'Shea's bike. He has

:46:16. > :46:21.got his hand in the air, he has indicated a problem. Now, if

:46:22. > :46:26.possible, Aaron Gate needs to keep going, but O'Shea is going very

:46:26. > :46:29.slow. Gate will continue his right. It is fully committed, there was no

:46:29. > :46:33.way he would pull out, he would have been blissfully unaware of

:46:33. > :46:38.what was going on elsewhere with no gun and no indication from any

:46:38. > :46:42.officials that he needed to stop, he has to maintain focus. This will

:46:42. > :46:46.make it quite interesting. It has really screwed up the electronic

:46:47. > :46:51.timing but he is in first position according to the timing at 750

:46:51. > :46:59.metres, so this is a fantastic performance by the New Zealander.

:46:59. > :47:08.Will this right taken to the world title? What a fantastic white, won

:47:08. > :47:15.her 2.271, the fastest man in the field, Aaron Gate from New Zealand.

:47:15. > :47:21.-- 102.271. He should get another start now. If you have a mishap at

:47:21. > :47:25.the start, you must stop at na lap. I don't think that means physically

:47:25. > :47:33.stop, because they have no brakes, but indicates that you will not

:47:33. > :47:43.continue, so he should get a restart. But 102 from two is a big

:47:43. > :47:44.

:47:44. > :47:48.target. O'Shea won in 102.9, that was when he was fresh. Even if the

:47:48. > :47:54.match that it would only be good enough for third or 4th place in

:47:54. > :47:59.this event. He needs a PB by some distance. Gate is the man to beat,

:47:59. > :48:03.I can't see anybody toppling him, he has been incredibly consistent

:48:03. > :48:08.through the competition. What do you think was wrong with O'Shea's

:48:08. > :48:14.like? I think he might have pulled the wheel over. The wheel is not

:48:14. > :48:22.going around very well. Straight away, the commissar is coming to

:48:22. > :48:27.supervise, to make sure... They are saying there is no problem at all.

:48:27. > :48:32.I think some of the lamb and it might have come off, the sides of

:48:32. > :48:38.the discs came unstuck. It looks like they will give him the

:48:38. > :48:42.opportunity to restart. A faulty wheel seems to be the issue. He was

:48:42. > :48:47.lucky he could keep riding and keep out of the way of Aaron Gate.

:48:47. > :48:52.still has the chance to White, it certainly looks that way, then his

:48:52. > :48:58.reign as world champion will last for another couple of minutes --

:48:58. > :49:02.still has the chance to ride. He definitely has a restart. O'Shea

:49:02. > :49:05.had that mechanical issue but he has been given a restart. He has

:49:06. > :49:10.acted all the way through as if he knew that he would get that, we

:49:10. > :49:14.have been waiting for confirmation from the officials. Glenn O'Shea

:49:14. > :49:20.needs to compose himself for more time. It is not easy for him, he

:49:20. > :49:23.got emotionally and physically ready for one moment. But this is

:49:23. > :49:27.what makes a champion, you have to deal with these things, learned to

:49:27. > :49:35.put all the thinking to one side and just deal with what is in front

:49:35. > :49:42.of you. Their gate is being taken out onto the track, so it looks as

:49:42. > :49:51.though they will give him a restart immediately. He is still in the

:49:51. > :50:01.home straight. His bike is ready to go. It is just him that needs to

:50:01. > :50:11.

:50:11. > :50:18.completely disintegrate, it was in a tandem at the time and it was

:50:18. > :50:22.incredible that the British pair kept going, there were bits on the

:50:22. > :50:27.track everywhere, they were finding it embedded in the track. It just

:50:27. > :50:34.shredded, didn't it? In the end, there was no real let-down they

:50:34. > :50:39.toppled over. It must out been very frightening for them -- there was

:50:39. > :50:44.no wheel left. It shows how perceptive they are, he just felt a

:50:44. > :50:54.bit of spending us. The bonding comes away from the rim. It could

:50:54. > :51:01.have been catastrophic. He was fortunate. Another issue here, he

:51:01. > :51:06.is not happy. It looks like the wheel has been clamped not fully

:51:06. > :51:11.straight on the track. You can feel instantly that the bike is leaning

:51:11. > :51:14.to one side. It is not his day. This is what you don't need at a

:51:14. > :51:20.vital moment in the World Championship when you are currently

:51:20. > :51:24.in silver medal position. He is in the same number of points as Aaron

:51:24. > :51:28.Gate, but it now seems to be going from bad to worse. What has

:51:28. > :51:38.happened? Has he decided he will not ride or have they actually

:51:38. > :51:38.

:51:38. > :51:43.decided it for him? He will either not be able to write -- rider, or...

:51:43. > :51:47.I can't believe they need to get a new start his gate. There is a

:51:47. > :51:50.technical problem, I think they will give them a few minutes.

:51:51. > :51:57.Unless they can sort it instantly, they will give him a break or move

:51:57. > :52:02.on with the programme? He seems quite composed. Maybe we will see

:52:02. > :52:06.Glenn O'Shea later. There is Aaron Gate, the New Zealander. His work

:52:06. > :52:10.is done, he must be feeling reasonably confident. O'Shea will

:52:10. > :52:16.have to do the right of his life to will on all that kind of time.

:52:16. > :52:26.has been so consistent, he won the flying lap, he did OK, he picked up

:52:26. > :52:30.eight points. His consistency will surely taken to the gold medal? I

:52:30. > :52:34.think it looks as if the Australian will be given a little bit more

:52:35. > :52:40.time. He is not reacting like somebody who has been told he will

:52:40. > :52:49.not be able to write, but he will no doubt be glad of the little

:52:49. > :52:52.extra rest before he heads out for We understand that he will start

:52:52. > :53:02.after the women's medal ceremony. It would be tough to ask him to go

:53:02. > :53:03.

:53:03. > :53:07.straight away? If the adrenalin is pumping, it might be OK. You could

:53:07. > :53:11.say that getting your bike right is part of it in the first place?

:53:11. > :53:16.have changed the rules, at the 1996 Olympics the reigning world

:53:16. > :53:20.champion pulled his foot on malign and he was almost guaranteed a win,

:53:20. > :53:25.he just had to ride around. Bobby's it hurts a little bit, but he

:53:25. > :53:30.pulled his foot from his paddle and at that point there was no restart,

:53:30. > :53:40.nowadays he would have been given a restart. -- obviously it hurts a

:53:40. > :53:51.

:53:51. > :53:55.He has not even done half a lap. can't really see it. We heard from

:53:55. > :54:00.Jill Douglas that it was a problem with his disc wheel at the back, it

:54:00. > :54:06.is not clear what. Pretty soon after he came out of the gate he

:54:06. > :54:08.realised there was a problem. Any idea? It could be that the bolts

:54:08. > :54:12.idea? It could be that the bolts slipped and the wheel was rubbing

:54:12. > :54:17.against the frame, it could be that simple. It could be an issue with

:54:17. > :54:21.the wheel itself. We will look at that right when he gets back on his

:54:21. > :54:25.bike, good luck to Glenn O'Shea, not the easiest thing to deal with.

:54:25. > :54:31.It was a dramatic day for the British team yesterday, a couple of

:54:31. > :54:41.gold medals, but first came in the points race with Simon Yates. --

:54:41. > :54:50.

:54:50. > :54:54.laps. 20 laps gained if you take a lap. The bell in the background is

:54:54. > :54:59.letting us know that we are, as you can see, are misprint lap, the

:54:59. > :55:09.first of the race. Big crowds are getting animated with the rider

:55:09. > :55:10.

:55:10. > :55:16.from Belarus. I think he was pipped for second place. The Frenchman won.

:55:16. > :55:24.It is quite a war of attrition, the points race. There were 80 laps to

:55:24. > :55:29.go. With the lap Games, -- gained, Simon Yates from Great Britain is

:55:29. > :55:35.the joint leader of the men's points race final. Yates is on the

:55:35. > :55:42.front, he desperately needs more points. Simon Yates leading birth -

:55:42. > :55:52.- leading the Sprint, he gets five points a year. Simon Yates is up to

:55:52. > :55:53.

:55:53. > :55:57.the silver met opposition. -- medal position. One point in it and nine

:55:57. > :56:03.laps remaining. Yates needs to keep himself in touch, he is moving

:56:03. > :56:09.towards the back of the group with only one lap remaining. He has to

:56:09. > :56:13.score a point. Yates for the first time is in the wrong place at the

:56:13. > :56:19.vital moment of the race. He is nowhere near the front of the group

:56:19. > :56:26.at the moment. The Frenchman Leeds. Simon Yates is making its move.

:56:26. > :56:30.This is extraordinary. Simon Yates goes around the outside. We need to

:56:30. > :56:38.see the chasers. There they are. Yates is third on the track, there

:56:38. > :56:43.hears. Simon Yates, 20 years of age, could be about to become the world

:56:43. > :56:48.champion. He is absolutely burying himself here, and Simon Yates has

:56:48. > :56:58.done it, he is the world champion at 20 years of age! What a

:56:58. > :57:00.

:57:00. > :57:04.I tried to conserve my energy at the start. I just got a bit more

:57:04. > :57:10.and bought through the race, started taking a few sprints, it

:57:10. > :57:16.worked out well -- started to get a bit more involved. It must be

:57:16. > :57:20.fantastic to have somebody off his experience with you? I was probably

:57:20. > :57:24.giving him a nightmare, not listening to what he was doing. I

:57:24. > :57:30.couldn't have asked for a better mentor. That was a very impressive

:57:30. > :57:36.piece of bike riding? Very good. He had to really dig deep in the final

:57:36. > :57:42.20 laps to pull that out of the back. A great ride throughout. I

:57:42. > :57:48.have been there, I really wanted it for him. Couldn't have asked for

:57:48. > :57:53.any more, really. Perfect preparation, worked out perfectly.

:57:53. > :57:57.Now we can speak to Simon and Chris in the commentary position. Simon,

:57:57. > :58:00.you could get a job as a camera direct as well as a commentator,

:58:01. > :58:06.you were screaming at the local director to get Simon Yates

:58:06. > :58:13.invasion? Yes, because at least see him, it was as though he was fired

:58:13. > :58:17.from a catapult at the vital moment. It is a 160 lap race and he

:58:17. > :58:22.suddenly found himself in completely the wrong position, but

:58:22. > :58:24.just as all seemed lost, he realised the situation and he just

:58:24. > :58:29.about managed to summon the reserves of strength to make the

:58:29. > :58:34.move around the outside. He said this morning that he just sensed a

:58:34. > :58:38.very slight easing up among the other riders. He thought, no, it is

:58:38. > :58:42.all-or-nothing, the world title is on the line, it was a thrilling way

:58:42. > :58:47.to win the world title, but what did out for me was we mentioned he

:58:47. > :58:53.is just 20, he didn't even have a biography in the British Cycling

:58:53. > :58:57.website ahead of these championships. He rode it so

:58:57. > :59:02.intelligently and so Mocholi and he did not put a foot wrong throughout.

:59:02. > :59:07.He made sure he was in the mix, in the race at never far away, always

:59:07. > :59:12.in with a chance, but he did so without over extending. The Spanish

:59:12. > :59:16.rider who ended up with soul they did a mountain of work and also the

:59:16. > :59:19.Australia -- the Austrian rider, time and time again they were on

:59:19. > :59:24.their own trying to drag others around will get away and in the end

:59:24. > :59:27.they used up so much energy, but it was a very canny, intelligent ride

:59:27. > :59:34.from Simon Yates and he thoroughly deserves to be champion. It was not

:59:34. > :59:38.what we expected at the start of the race. It was not. Chris, you

:59:38. > :59:42.are out there mixing with the team, was there any inkling that he was

:59:42. > :59:49.in that kind of shape, he had the right had on his shoulders to do

:59:49. > :59:53.something like that? -- head on his shoulders. They know he is skilful,

:59:53. > :59:57.which is why they gave him the opportunity. I was speaking to

:59:57. > :00:02.Chris Newton earlier and he said that he is a clever bike rider, but

:00:02. > :00:06.even Chris was sweating at a couple of moments. As Simon said, there

:00:06. > :00:11.were plenty of times in that race when he took a calculated risks,

:00:11. > :00:15.and he called everyone correctly. He only made three key moves in

:00:15. > :00:19.that entire race and he called each one perfectly. It bodes very well

:00:19. > :00:23.for the future, he did not win because of a freak opportunity or

:00:23. > :00:29.because he physically had the legs and they don't know who he is, he

:00:29. > :00:34.was allowed to get away, he did it using his brain. Others will be

:00:34. > :00:39.aware of him because he has won a stage of another race in the past,

:00:39. > :00:44.which is a very tough race. The tour of the future, not officially

:00:44. > :00:48.the younger version of the Tour de France but that is how it is viewed.

:00:48. > :00:58.Because a range of disciplines on the road and on the track he has

:00:58. > :01:07.

:01:07. > :01:14.already shown that he is highly Although it is viewed as a

:01:14. > :01:21.preparation for Rio, this race is not involved. He has made himself

:01:21. > :01:26.the favourite rider for Britain in that particular race, the next step

:01:26. > :01:31.is to go into the on the M. There is talk of playing around with the

:01:31. > :01:36.omnium, bringing the points raced back, at the Union Cycliste

:01:36. > :01:40.Internationale will propose that to the IOC and they may get some extra

:01:40. > :01:43.medals in there, particularly endurance medals, three and three

:01:43. > :01:48.with the sprinters but we do not know whether that is actually going

:01:49. > :01:51.to happen. That is up for grabs in the next few months. Just to say as

:01:51. > :01:56.well that Glenn O'Shea has come back onto the track now and he is

:01:56. > :02:05.about to do his final ride in the men's on the end, but he will have

:02:05. > :02:11.to go some to stand a chance because Aaron Gate is leading the

:02:11. > :02:17.way. It in that case, I will leave it to you to commentate on whether

:02:17. > :02:27.Glenn O'Shea can stay amongst the medals. The men's on the M. --

:02:27. > :02:29.

:02:29. > :02:36.opportunity. It has to be the right of his life, he is the Australian

:02:36. > :02:41.National one kilometre Champany -- champion. He will know to go an

:02:41. > :02:46.awful lot quicker than that of the wants to take this omnium title. He

:02:46. > :02:52.has had two chances already, you can see he is committed and it is a

:02:52. > :02:55.good start. He comes through the to run and 50 metre mark, enough for

:02:55. > :02:59.fourth-fastest. Chris was saying that his best time he has done

:02:59. > :03:03.probably would have got him into that sort of position in this field

:03:03. > :03:08.with the times being ridden so far. He is on his game but still may not

:03:08. > :03:12.be enough. He is holding that position as it comes through 500

:03:12. > :03:17.metres so it will all be about the final. He is going to do a

:03:17. > :03:23.respectable ride, probably take the silver but I don't think he can

:03:23. > :03:27.shift Gate. The one more lap to go for the Australian to bring to the

:03:27. > :03:34.end of the omnium championship. has put on a great show, a

:03:34. > :03:44.gargantuan effort. It is not going to be enough as he crosses the line.

:03:44. > :03:44.

:03:44. > :03:48.Glenn O'Shea with a result meaning the gold medal goes to Aaron Gate.

:03:48. > :03:54.I think he knew the gold medal was his but he had to wait until Glenn

:03:54. > :03:58.O'Shea had finished and Aaron Gate wins, 18 points and Lasse Hansen

:03:58. > :04:02.now the Olympic champion moves into the silver medal position because

:04:02. > :04:05.the time of Glenn O'Shea was not quite quick enough so Glenn O'Shea

:04:05. > :04:15.from Australia finishes with the bronze medal, he has lost the

:04:15. > :04:21.

:04:21. > :04:25.silver medal by a point, finishes thought Glenn O'Shea would do

:04:25. > :04:35.slightly better and that single point cost him the silver medal so

:04:35. > :04:38.

:04:38. > :04:44.he stays on the podium but miles ahead, and these are the result of

:04:44. > :04:54.the time trial. Lasse Hansen from Denmark second, a really fast time

:04:54. > :05:02.there and Lucas Liss in third for Germany. Glenn O'Shea not quite

:05:02. > :05:08.good enough in that final ride. The silver medal for Lasse Hansen and

:05:08. > :05:18.Glenn O'Shea for bronze, 19-year- old Jon Dibben finishing in 8th

:05:18. > :05:20.

:05:20. > :05:24.A top-ten finish for you here, Jon Dibben. I saw you watching the guys

:05:24. > :05:29.there mixing it up for the medals and I could see in your eyes, there

:05:29. > :05:32.is a hunger to get up there and push up the rankings. I came here

:05:32. > :05:37.looking for a good result and doing the best I could do, I am happy

:05:37. > :05:43.with the way it has gone, happy with 8th, and obviously I would

:05:43. > :05:49.want to win so I am watching them but that is where I wanted to be.

:05:49. > :05:53.It is a high-quality field, some very experienced omnium riders.

:05:53. > :05:58.yes, six races in two days, it is quite busy. You never have too much

:05:58. > :06:02.time lying around. You do one raised and then fly into the points,

:06:02. > :06:09.then it is the second day. You have got to think about eating and

:06:09. > :06:15.racing. It all comes quickly, you have to stay on your toes. Pretty

:06:15. > :06:20.consistent right the way through but you were looking particularly

:06:20. > :06:23.fresh in the Devil and then coming into the blue. I think I did go on

:06:23. > :06:28.the blue at there but it was a tricky one, I was feeling good, got

:06:29. > :06:33.a good start and you always need a bit of luck in the Devil. I was in

:06:33. > :06:36.the wheel so out of the wind but I did not spend too much energy on

:06:36. > :06:41.the first couple of laps, then got stuck on the inside and I knew I

:06:41. > :06:47.would be tight and they could not go on the outside because Glenn

:06:47. > :06:52.O'Shea was squeezing the down side it was either crash or go on to the

:06:52. > :06:56.blue and it is breaking the rules so they were probably right to

:06:56. > :07:01.relegate me. Hard lines but overall, two days of competition and you

:07:01. > :07:05.have watched the guys in the pursuit team ride and he will watch

:07:05. > :07:11.the madison tomorrow. A great feeling among these young riders

:07:11. > :07:19.coming through, what is it like being part of that? If it is great.

:07:19. > :07:23.Yates is right, yesterday was unbelievably good. -- it is great.

:07:23. > :07:28.May, Sam Harrison, Sam Yates are all part of the Academy it so it is

:07:28. > :07:34.the younger guys coming up, -- me, Sam Harrison. We are all happy with

:07:34. > :07:38.it and the madison tomorrow. What is the plan for you? A couple of

:07:38. > :07:45.easy days but only a couple, straight onto the road and then

:07:45. > :07:50.concentrate on the road all year, get that head on. Get a bit of form.

:07:50. > :07:57.It enjoyed the delights of Minsk before you go. Congratulations.

:07:57. > :08:02.STUDIO: A top 10 finish for Jonathan didn't. -- Jon Dibben. A

:08:02. > :08:06.palpable sense of disappointment? It is a tough event, the omnium,

:08:06. > :08:10.how you have to get up for these events and it feels like you do not

:08:10. > :08:14.get much rest. Difficult to manage and it is a fantastic experience

:08:14. > :08:18.for him to go through a whole senior world competition but also

:08:18. > :08:22.the fact there is so much success over the past few days, that will

:08:22. > :08:26.really drive him on. My first World Championships were not so

:08:26. > :08:29.successful but lot of success within the 18, a few world

:08:29. > :08:35.champions made that here and it really inspired me to come back

:08:35. > :08:39.stronger the following year -- success with in that team. A with

:08:39. > :08:45.the success of Simon Yates, a contemporary seeing his success,

:08:45. > :08:52.those were his dreams, in this championship. Maybe they did that

:08:52. > :08:56.go with aspirations to win it but he is bound to be disappointed when

:08:56. > :09:00.he sees somebody who trains alongside him to go on and win a

:09:00. > :09:04.World Championship title, naturally he will be disappointed but the

:09:04. > :09:09.benchmark is very high. I am sure there will be plenty of good stays

:09:09. > :09:13.ahead of him. Next week will hope there is drama on the track in

:09:13. > :09:23.Gothenburg when we had to Sweden for the indoor athletics

:09:23. > :09:41.

:09:41. > :09:48.Jason Gardener is the winner. It is Mo Farah.

:09:48. > :09:53.As the European Indoor Athletics gets under way in Gothenburg. We

:09:53. > :09:57.will had out now again to Minsk, speak to Jill Douglas in the mixed

:09:57. > :10:04.zone. Becky James obviously getting warmed up close to where you are.

:10:04. > :10:08.What is the mood in the camp like? Becky is smiling, looked relaxed,

:10:08. > :10:12.and composed. Absolutely no pressure on her at all. The coaches

:10:12. > :10:15.have been with her, chatting to her over the course of the evening.

:10:15. > :10:23.Giving her encouragement but he will take enormous confidence in

:10:23. > :10:27.the way she approached those two rides. We may already be crowning

:10:27. > :10:30.her world champion if it wasn't for the closeness of the first ride.

:10:30. > :10:39.The way she rode in the second right, she will take great

:10:39. > :10:45.confidence from that. She asked me for the Wales rugby score as well

:10:45. > :10:52.so she will be wanting to see that., we have almost C pair grow before

:10:52. > :11:00.our eyes with these games. -- see her grow. The point has been made

:11:00. > :11:05.by Simon and Chris and Vicky in the studio, she has had a consistent

:11:05. > :11:09.blog of training and racing. Bothered with ill health and injury

:11:09. > :11:14.and suddenly finds herself with a block of training and that is so

:11:14. > :11:17.confident. She was feeling good and you the numbers were good in

:11:17. > :11:20.training and no pressure on her. Looking back to the Commonwealth

:11:21. > :11:26.Games, she raced against Anna Meares, she is not intimidated by

:11:26. > :11:33.big games. Confidence is not something that Becky James lacks

:11:33. > :11:37.and she loves sprinting and racing. She will have taken confidence from

:11:37. > :11:44.her former earlier this week and he will have taken confidence from her

:11:44. > :11:54.rides earlier this week. Here's the old champion of this... Well not

:11:54. > :11:59.quite yet. It Becky, you think it is the key's to win? It is

:11:59. > :12:09.definitely in her grasp -- Vicky, you think it is Becky's to win. She

:12:09. > :12:25.

:12:25. > :12:34.hands? Becky James from Abergavenny on the front and Kristina Vogel of

:12:34. > :12:39.Germany, Vogel winning the first race by mm. -- by about 1mm. I do

:12:39. > :12:43.feel that Becky James would benefit from having the wheel to aim at. It

:12:43. > :12:50.worked so well for her in the previous round. She could engage

:12:50. > :12:53.her own effort with a visual reference. Kristina Vogel is

:12:53. > :12:58.certainly a competitor to be respected. So close, that win in

:12:58. > :13:03.the first round. We thought Becky James had got it and the photo was

:13:03. > :13:13.literally mm but the second round Becky James looked a lot fresher

:13:13. > :13:17.

:13:17. > :13:23.this time? Kristina Vogel on the outside of the pair, Becky James

:13:23. > :13:28.not giving how much room and not giving Vogel to much of an option.

:13:28. > :13:30.She is trying to make it a late sprint but now she is committing,

:13:31. > :13:34.the second burst of speed in the home straight, Vogel is on to the

:13:34. > :13:38.wheel and coming round on the shoulder, it is all or nothing.

:13:39. > :13:46.world title at stake and Becky James is going to do it! Becky

:13:46. > :13:51.James is the champion of the World! What a ride. Becky James in the

:13:51. > :13:57.final ride, she led from the front and at first... She did not know

:13:57. > :14:07.she had won there! Because post-the key Pendleton, Britain has a new

:14:07. > :14:10.star because she held on -- poster Vicky Pendleton. She won by half a

:14:10. > :14:20.wheel which will mean she will have a gold medal around her neck rather

:14:20. > :14:21.

:14:21. > :14:27.than a silver. She did not want to wait. she cannot believe it now,

:14:27. > :14:32.rolling around and neither can the sprint coaches. What a promising

:14:32. > :14:39.rider. She has had illness and injury and finally fulfilling her

:14:39. > :14:45.capabilities. What joy as well for the coaches who have done a great

:14:45. > :14:50.job. Becky James, so much talent and it has all come to fruition

:14:50. > :14:56.here. Still just 21 but she rode absolutely brilliantly and what a

:14:56. > :15:01.winning smile. From the new world champion. What a World

:15:01. > :15:05.Championships. She has got a hat for of medals. That one is the

:15:05. > :15:09.right colour. Two bronze medals earlier in the week for her on the

:15:09. > :15:12.first day in the team sprint alongside Vicky Williamson, another

:15:13. > :15:17.promising new young member of the British team and then the bronze

:15:17. > :15:20.medal again in the women's 500 metres time trial which she was not

:15:21. > :15:24.targeting, she said she wanted to do the right and get back and

:15:24. > :15:28.prepare for the spread because for her, this was the big event of the

:15:28. > :15:33.week and all that effort has all been worth it now. Because she is

:15:33. > :15:35.on top of the world. Good for the coaches as well because this is the

:15:36. > :15:40.first time to be there with somebody doing this for the first

:15:41. > :15:50.time. They have seen world champions many times now but always

:15:51. > :16:02.

:16:02. > :16:05.on the front of one or two of the newspapers tomorrow! We saw that

:16:05. > :16:09.she had the potential to achieve great things in the Commonwealth

:16:09. > :16:17.Games in Delhi when she went all the way through to the sprint final

:16:17. > :16:20.and gave Anna Meares a good race. But now, three years on, she is a

:16:21. > :16:29.world champion. And some of the people who really matter are here

:16:29. > :16:35.Talking about passing the baton from one world champion to another,

:16:35. > :16:41.Becky James, how delighted are you to see this? It was a fantastic

:16:41. > :16:45.competition for her. She rode the third race very confidently, she

:16:45. > :16:51.was clearly the winner and my eyes, I'd put my money on it before we

:16:52. > :16:56.got to the final. Craig, she has won this title, she has two bronze

:16:56. > :17:01.medals, there must be a certain amount of 30, it gives you a

:17:01. > :17:05.flavour of what shape she is in. -- there must be a certain amount of

:17:05. > :17:12.fatigue. Most of these riders have raced at some point with some

:17:12. > :17:16.fatigue. Everyone has tired legs. But Becky seems to be bouncing back

:17:16. > :17:26.better than most. There was lots of shouting during the race about what

:17:26. > :17:27.

:17:27. > :17:32.she should and should not do, let's the lead again, she was gaining

:17:32. > :17:38.some height and it looked like she wanted to push ahead. At one stage

:17:38. > :17:42.we thought, don't letter over the top of you, and she didn't. She is

:17:42. > :17:47.protecting the inside of the track, holding Vogel in a position and

:17:47. > :17:52.then she dictated won the sprint would start. She just held a good,

:17:52. > :17:57.strong sprint right through to the final lap. You said Vogel didn't

:17:57. > :18:03.leave a gap? She got right on Becky's wheel, which was a mistake.

:18:03. > :18:07.She needed a gap to run into. There is no way you can sit on your wheel

:18:07. > :18:15.and tried to edge around, it does not work like that. She was right

:18:15. > :18:19.The new world champion is alongside Jill Douglas.

:18:19. > :18:23.I can tell you what she has to say, she says you can't believe it, it

:18:23. > :18:27.is a dream. Wonderful to see you celebrating with your grandparents,

:18:27. > :18:34.who have made the trip. I can't believe this has just happened to

:18:34. > :18:38.me. I am world champion, I can't believe it! We said to you

:18:38. > :18:41.yesterday that nobody would want to race against you when the final

:18:41. > :18:46.because you looked so strong or weak, but take us through the final.

:18:46. > :18:54.When you went up against Vogel one lost it in the photo finish, what

:18:54. > :18:59.were your thoughts? I went over my tactics afterwards, I should have

:18:59. > :19:03.gone rather than wait it. But I really, really wanted to win. I

:19:03. > :19:07.kept myself calm and thought about what I wanted to do in the next

:19:07. > :19:13.round, I did it and I did it again in the third. A really convincing

:19:13. > :19:18.win in the second round. How do you keep a lid on things? You were so

:19:18. > :19:21.relaxed here. It is the first time I've been relaxed. I have taken its

:19:21. > :19:27.step-by-step and not thought further ahead, just taking each

:19:27. > :19:32.race as it came. Now I know how to race properly! When you came into

:19:32. > :19:35.the championships, you knew you were in good form, you had a

:19:35. > :19:39.wonderful Glock of training and kept good health, but did you

:19:39. > :19:44.believe you would go home with a rainbow jersey and two medals from

:19:44. > :19:49.previous events? I did not think I would get a single medal, I hope to

:19:49. > :19:54.get into the top eight. I can't believe I have a rainbow jersey!

:19:54. > :19:57.Victoria Pendleton was cheering you on in the studio. What did your

:19:57. > :20:02.grand parent say? They said I deserved it, that I had trained so

:20:02. > :20:05.hard, they are buzzing, they are so happy and it is so nice to have

:20:05. > :20:10.them here. Congratulate and sand thank you.

:20:11. > :20:17.Thank you. -- congratulate Asians and thank you.

:20:17. > :20:21.She did not think she would win any medals, and she has got three, she

:20:22. > :20:25.could get a 4th tomorrow. With confidence like that, and the other

:20:25. > :20:29.girls have probably raised at the same amount of competition, she has

:20:29. > :20:34.a good chance. It was interesting that she said she has never felt

:20:34. > :20:40.more relaxed at the championships. People at home might think that for

:20:40. > :20:46.your first world title it should be the opposite? When she says relaxed,

:20:46. > :20:49.she means relaxed the competition. It is it a situation to be in. But

:20:49. > :20:54.when you qualify fastest and you see how much of an advantage you

:20:54. > :20:58.have, it eats you huge confidence and you can smile, take it in your

:20:58. > :21:03.stride, try and make clear sense of what you're doing and make the

:21:03. > :21:12.right decisions, which is what I think she has done. She dominated

:21:12. > :21:16.the Sprint, she lost one raised by just this much -- she lost one race.

:21:16. > :21:22.She took it by the scrap of the neck? Yes, and that confidence

:21:22. > :21:25.comes from qualifying the fastest. Not that you can take your foot off

:21:25. > :21:29.the gas but it gives you a psychological edge against your

:21:29. > :21:34.competitors, because they know you're the one to beat. As long as

:21:34. > :21:39.you don't make mistakes, it is yours for the taking. Celebrate the

:21:39. > :21:43.moment, that is important, but she takes on a different status now,

:21:43. > :21:48.she is a world champion with a title on her back? The stripes go

:21:48. > :21:52.that way round, but I feel like they should go that way round. The

:21:52. > :21:59.first time I rode in my world champion Jersey I remember being at

:21:59. > :22:03.a race in Germany and I thought, I will never be overlooked ever again.

:22:03. > :22:08.People will look at me as the one to set the targets on, to try to

:22:08. > :22:11.beat next time. It is a burden but she seems very confident and happy

:22:12. > :22:16.with her training and her performance. I think there will be

:22:16. > :22:21.many more titles going her way. What she has is an environment

:22:21. > :22:26.around her at British Cycling which knows all about having success, and

:22:26. > :22:29.handling failure. But handling success is really important. They

:22:29. > :22:34.are very experienced at producing world champions and they have gone

:22:34. > :22:38.to show it at this Championships. People were concerned there was not

:22:38. > :22:41.the motivation or form throughout the whole team, but really they

:22:41. > :22:46.have the right support around the individuals to bring them to that

:22:46. > :22:52.level, but very highest level, and give them the best chance of

:22:52. > :22:57.achieving their dreams. Great for women sport. There has been a lot

:22:57. > :23:04.about women sports and how well they have done with the Olympics in

:23:04. > :23:08.the Paralympics. This is a triumph for the girls? I went into 2012

:23:08. > :23:12.having the feeling that it would be the year for the girls to make the

:23:12. > :23:16.transition and be as dominant as the men's team. In the early days

:23:16. > :23:20.there were only two of us on the team, now it is full of world

:23:20. > :23:26.champions really holding their own at the elite level of track cycling,

:23:26. > :23:31.it is great to see and I am so pleased. Lots of talk beforehand

:23:31. > :23:37.don't -- almost playing down expectations. It is a young team.

:23:37. > :23:41.Yet when we look at the medal table, Britain are doing incredibly well.

:23:41. > :23:45.That is part of the reason Becky was so relaxed, there was not the

:23:45. > :23:51.pressure you would have leading directly into a games. Fantastic

:23:51. > :23:55.results all round. It is hard coming out of an Olympic Games and

:23:55. > :23:59.straight into the world championships so quickly. There is

:23:59. > :24:05.a few notable athletes missing that would ordinarily be there. They

:24:05. > :24:10.have taken time out for whatever reason. It is maybe not absolutely

:24:10. > :24:14.true reflection of where we are in the world, but it is pretty good.

:24:14. > :24:19.It was a good start, there is experience such as Jason Kenny and

:24:19. > :24:26.Laura Trott, but they are all so young, they will be there in Rio

:24:26. > :24:29.leading the team. Absolutely. There are many people on the team who

:24:29. > :24:34.have not been in the post Olympic gold, they have been watching the

:24:34. > :24:40.Olympics, raring to get a chance to race, watching how successful the

:24:40. > :24:45.team has been. They have grasped the opportunity with both hands and

:24:45. > :24:49.given it 100%. I think it bodes very well for the run-up to Rio,

:24:49. > :24:53.producing a new team, a fresh new team of individuals who are the

:24:53. > :24:58.best in the world. A word for the coaching team behind the scenes and

:24:58. > :25:03.a job that they have done with Becky, with the likes of Simon and

:25:03. > :25:08.Jon Dibben, you know them very well, Craig, they are like -- an

:25:08. > :25:12.outstanding bunch of people? Most of them are former riders, the only

:25:13. > :25:19.exception is possibly Iain Dyer, although he rode, just not at

:25:19. > :25:24.international level. They are recently retired as well, they are

:25:24. > :25:29.taking a fresh approach. Other countries maybe have coaches who

:25:29. > :25:34.have been there forever, basically. It is constantly evolving, the

:25:34. > :25:41.methods. That is great for those young athletes. Going back to Becky,

:25:41. > :25:44.world champion now, what is the calendar ahead of her? What is next

:25:44. > :25:48.day she builds towards the next World Championship next year?

:25:48. > :25:53.sure she will have a break, but I doubt she will want one. She will

:25:53. > :25:57.be ready to start training and get stuck in. It really depends on how

:25:57. > :26:00.many World Cups she wishes to approach next year's, then

:26:00. > :26:07.following into the worlds. If she will have the Commonwealth Games

:26:07. > :26:11.next year for Wales. She will have a fight on her hands, there will be

:26:11. > :26:17.fierce competition from Australia and, I'm sure, England as well. You

:26:17. > :26:20.could have a comeback for that, Victoria! Enough of us talking,

:26:20. > :26:30.let's get back to Minsk for the crowning of a new British world

:26:30. > :26:32.

:26:32. > :26:35.onto the podium for the third time this week, but she is finally

:26:35. > :26:45.standing in a position where she really wants to be, in the middle

:26:45. > :27:01.

:27:01. > :27:04.to Wai Sze Lee from Hong Kong. The women presenting the flowers is one

:27:04. > :27:08.of the great track riders from Belarus in recent years. Thinking

:27:08. > :27:13.about the women's sprint competition, most of the top names

:27:13. > :27:20.were here. Bobby's the Anna Meares is having a little break. --

:27:20. > :27:24.obviously Anna Meares. This is a very, very strong field. But they

:27:24. > :27:29.had to play second fiddle to Becky James. I don't necessarily think

:27:29. > :27:33.those names not being here made a great deal of difference. These

:27:33. > :27:38.times here have been quick and these are the people that are

:27:38. > :27:42.motivated to be here and get stuck into the next Olympic cycle. I am

:27:42. > :27:46.not sure you can take you out in this day and age, we will have to

:27:46. > :27:56.wait and see. Kristina Vogel. And now the moment we have all been

:27:56. > :28:07.

:28:07. > :28:12.champion, is now a senior champion. And she did it in some style,

:28:12. > :28:18.losing the first race in the final under real pressure. She came back

:28:19. > :28:26.and turn the final on its head. Absolutely delighted to be pulling

:28:26. > :28:32.on the rainbow jersey. For the first time. She keeps looking down

:28:32. > :28:42.to have a good look! It is the right colour! Let's just wait for

:28:42. > :28:44.

:28:44. > :28:49.this presentation. She is coming forward to present the flowers.

:28:49. > :28:54.Sze Lee was on the top step of the podium as the winner in the 500

:28:54. > :28:58.metres earlier in the week. Kristina Vogel, who also has a gold

:28:58. > :29:08.medal this week from the team sprint. She is an Olympic champion

:29:08. > :29:13.

:29:13. > :29:23.three medals in a week, and she saved the best till last. And here

:29:23. > :29:24.

:29:24. > :30:17.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 53 seconds

:30:17. > :30:23.toast of Wales and also British from illness and injury for Becky

:30:23. > :30:26.James but at last, she has arrived and making it all the sweeter.

:30:26. > :30:31.did wonder over the last couple of years with all the problems she had,

:30:31. > :30:34.whether she would be able to fulfil the potential we all knew was there

:30:35. > :30:38.but she has done more than that this week with those two bronze

:30:38. > :30:45.medals and now the World Championship victory in the women's

:30:45. > :30:50.sprint. Victoria Pendleton, no longer be champion put the winning

:30:50. > :30:54.jersey staying in British hands. STUDIO: A wonderful moment for

:30:54. > :31:00.Becky James and alongside Jill Douglas is one of the head coach's

:31:00. > :31:05.of British cycling, Jill Douglas, over to you. Shane, fantastic to

:31:05. > :31:09.see the togetherness of that British team, standing and seeing

:31:09. > :31:14.Becky James celebrating. On that evidence, dare we say, the first of

:31:14. > :31:18.many in the years to come? Becky has come here, performed

:31:18. > :31:27.brilliantly, not just in the sprint but her rides in the team spent and

:31:27. > :31:31.the 500. I think the whole squad performed well. From the starting

:31:31. > :31:35.put a good going forward, we have got a young and dynamic team. These

:31:35. > :31:39.are the World Championships, we are not here to get experience, we are

:31:39. > :31:45.here to win medals. The rest of the world must see this British team

:31:45. > :31:49.and think they have not got Chris Hoy with them, no Victoria

:31:49. > :31:54.Pendleton, maybe they will let us have a look in. And you have come

:31:54. > :31:59.with a squad of riders like Simon Yates and Becky James who have

:31:59. > :32:06.stepped up an Elinor Barker coming into the pursuit team. Something is

:32:06. > :32:14.going correctly. The S, and full credit to the management team.

:32:14. > :32:22.Brailsford -- yes, and full credit. We know everybody is back there

:32:22. > :32:26.behind us. The loss of bigger riders, big names, has only

:32:26. > :32:30.inspired the athletes to be even bigger things. Sir Chris Hoy,

:32:30. > :32:34.massively missed. Just his demeanour and his leadership

:32:34. > :32:40.qualities in the pit, but Jason stepped up here and he has taken

:32:40. > :32:50.that a role. This girl has just gone 10.9, foot and there's not

:32:50. > :32:58.many sprinters here who can scare her. And Simon, team pursuit,

:32:58. > :33:05.running second. Girls, winning. It all bodes well for the future. As

:33:05. > :33:09.long as we keep working hard, just keep building the squad and the

:33:09. > :33:12.dynamic this week has been absolutely fantastic. Between staff

:33:12. > :33:18.and riders, and that is the most pleasing thing for me because it is

:33:18. > :33:27.a relatively new squad. Looking around the Velodrome, we have seen

:33:27. > :33:31.the New Zealanders come here, the Australian team, your brother Gary

:33:31. > :33:37.involved in the Australian team. What are they talking about what

:33:37. > :33:44.the British team? A mix of youth in the team but Becky James in her own

:33:44. > :33:48.right stepped up and she is now world champion. We pride ourselves

:33:48. > :33:52.on a good squad. We did not have the years of development straight

:33:52. > :33:56.after Beijing but these riders have come through the system and now we

:33:56. > :34:02.are looking to develop to 2020 it now. Some good talent coming

:34:02. > :34:07.through and it has been exciting, and we have come away with great

:34:07. > :34:12.success. Not over yet. Becky James, what a composed and mature approach

:34:12. > :34:17.to that spent tonight. Yes, she came of age and the beauty was from

:34:17. > :34:21.even the coach's point of view, she was not afraid to pin the German

:34:21. > :34:27.rider on the fence. She showed real ability and tracked her down when

:34:27. > :34:32.she had to. Stepped on it when she had two and she brought it home. It

:34:32. > :34:36.is refreshing to see a young rider be prepared to take it on from the

:34:36. > :34:40.front. Many of them liked to ride from the back end today was a prime

:34:40. > :34:48.example. We have got a prime talent but we have known that for a long

:34:48. > :34:58.time. This girls -- gill has done a lot of work in Moscow. We will lead

:34:58. > :35:06.

:35:06. > :35:13.Great Britain top the table of the medals. We got one from Jason Kenny,

:35:13. > :35:16.Becky James, women's in pursuit with Laura Trott and Simon Yates.

:35:16. > :35:21.Lauren Trott has been going in the omnium today, competed in a couple

:35:21. > :35:25.of races already, she lives in 5th place, the elimination race coming

:35:25. > :35:29.up shortly. We will not be able to get that on BBC Two, but we will

:35:30. > :35:39.put it on the red button. We did catch up with Laura before the

:35:40. > :35:42.

:35:42. > :35:47.Our training has been going well so I am looking forward to it. Just

:35:47. > :35:51.want to get it done. Obviously, I am at mainly team pursuit still but

:35:51. > :35:58.I have been doing lots more omnium stuff just because when it Joe left

:35:58. > :36:04.our team, there were only two of us so we had to concentrate on that. I

:36:04. > :36:11.did points-based stuff and some omnium. I would like to do well and

:36:11. > :36:19.retain my title. Are you finding it tough to get yourself motivated for

:36:19. > :36:23.the World Championships? No, not really. I noticed we have been so

:36:23. > :36:27.highly and the expectation was high. We had a break and went to

:36:27. > :36:32.Australia, did lot more training but now I am super excited. I just

:36:32. > :36:35.want to race. It is going well in training. We have not done a long-

:36:36. > :36:41.standing effort because we have not been on the track, Elinor Barker

:36:41. > :36:45.has been at school so we have only just come together two weeks ago.

:36:45. > :36:54.Minsk, Bella rooves. You have been before. What are your thoughts and

:36:54. > :36:59.memories of Minsk -- Minsk - are the roots. It is not a freezing

:36:59. > :37:05.cold in my memory! The first time I met Shane Sutton was here. What

:37:05. > :37:08.were your impressions? He seemed like an angry man! He told me I was

:37:08. > :37:17.not powerful enough as well to be a team pursuit rider. He has eaten

:37:17. > :37:21.his words? He yes, he has since STUDIO: It is actually on the BBC

:37:21. > :37:27.website, not the red button, the elimination race. We will see the

:37:27. > :37:32.finish of the omnium tomorrow. A quick chat, Laura in complete

:37:32. > :37:36.contrast to her boyfriend's Jason Kenny. She loves it. As she said,

:37:36. > :37:40.it feels like she has not raced for ages but realistically, it is not

:37:40. > :37:45.that long since the Olympics really. It did, let catch up with what

:37:45. > :37:55.happened yesterday. One of the gold medals, Jason Kenny in the keirin.

:37:55. > :38:02.

:38:02. > :38:12.disappear now. And the Dutch rider hits the front. Taylor in second

:38:12. > :38:12.

:38:12. > :38:18.Jason Kenny up to second place. Next time round they will take the

:38:18. > :38:23.Bell. Perfectly positioned, Kenny is just waiting and waiting. If he

:38:23. > :38:27.does not get boxed in, he is in a great position. Jason Kenny is

:38:27. > :38:32.right on his wheel, he has a chance to win the gold medal and up

:38:32. > :38:38.towards the line, it is Jason Kenny who is the world champion! What I

:38:38. > :38:42.ride! When it really mattered, Jason Kenny delivered. He did not

:38:42. > :38:46.look like a world champion through the day but my word, he did there

:38:46. > :38:51.and that that is exactly what he is. A double Olympic champion, he is

:38:51. > :38:57.now the world champion in the men's keirin, a fantastic ride from Jason

:38:57. > :39:02.Kenny. Maximilian Levy ends up with the silver, and the Dutch rider,

:39:02. > :39:07.the bronze. I get the feeling that that surprised him, I don't think

:39:08. > :39:12.he realised... He had good legs, and the coaching team said before

:39:12. > :39:15.his there, just missing something that in that race, we watch the

:39:15. > :39:19.replays, he was presented with the opportunity, came on the inside,

:39:19. > :39:23.found himself in the perfect position with a lap to go. He was

:39:23. > :39:28.given room to work and he just waited until it was time to go and

:39:28. > :39:35.accelerated into the slipstream of Maximilian Levy. He was absolutely

:39:35. > :39:42.delighted with that opportunity. put my house on Maximilian Levy

:39:42. > :39:46.winning, to be honest! He is so strong, I could not believe the

:39:46. > :39:55.speed we were going out. Everybody was in a line behind us. Doing a

:39:55. > :40:00.bit of a Sir Chris Hoy, leading us all on. I can't believe it. All day,

:40:00. > :40:03.we only made the final by default. It was a roller-coaster of a day

:40:03. > :40:08.because he got boxed in and had to go through the repechage. What were

:40:08. > :40:12.you thinking then? I was having such a confidence crisis,

:40:12. > :40:19.especially after yesterday. It was really hard, messing up the team

:40:19. > :40:25.sprint like that. I was expecting to be standing here with the lads

:40:25. > :40:30.because I cocked it up so badly. That was such a big blow. It is an

:40:30. > :40:37.amazing feeling to put it right. It is a shame that cannot be here to

:40:37. > :40:41.enjoy it. Nice to see Jason Kenny Looking forward to tomorrow, it

:40:41. > :40:46.could get even better through medal chances for the British tomorrow.

:40:46. > :40:50.The woman of the moment, Becky James in the keirin. With the

:40:50. > :40:55.confidence she has just taken, new world champion, you could not fault

:40:55. > :40:59.her performance so far through the championships, she is in with a

:40:59. > :41:06.good shout. If she rides three rides well, she could have another

:41:06. > :41:15.title. The adrenaline, she will not slip a week tonight, will she?

:41:15. > :41:19.She may sleep in her jersey. said after the bronze medal, that

:41:19. > :41:24.she and Vicky could not sleep but that did not hold her back. Maybe

:41:24. > :41:30.nothing to worry about. She has got nothing to lose. She has already

:41:30. > :41:34.won a title. We have got binmen's madison, Simon Yates is back on

:41:34. > :41:42.track with Owen Doull who did well in the scratchers race. Yes, he was

:41:42. > :41:49.5th. Could be a formidable pairing. And Laura Trott, you can see her on

:41:49. > :41:53.the website for the elimination race, how do you see her? Is she in

:41:53. > :41:56.a decent position? I think with the omnium, it is not often you see

:41:56. > :42:01.someone stay at the top of the banking throughout, it has to

:42:01. > :42:07.change. People are strengths and weaknesses within the format so she

:42:07. > :42:12.is still in with a good chance of being on the podium. And Laura's

:42:12. > :42:17.attitude is like a breath of fresh air. Her and Jason Kenny are

:42:17. > :42:23.together, almost a complete contrast in character. Possibly. I

:42:23. > :42:28.wonder who does most of the talking in that household! Jason it lets

:42:28. > :42:32.his legs do the talking and obviously Laura does as well but

:42:32. > :42:37.they are just different characters and both formidable riders. Also

:42:37. > :42:42.nice for law as well to have Becky come along and take a bit of the

:42:42. > :42:46.focus off her -- mass for water as well. It is definitely nice to be

:42:46. > :42:52.able to enjoy it with other team is -- it is nice for Laura trot as

:42:52. > :42:56.well. It will be helpful in the future when they go on in the

:42:56. > :43:03.future. Shane Sutton talking earlier on, he got the sense he was

:43:03. > :43:09.pretty comfortable with how things were going. I and every reason to

:43:09. > :43:16.be as well. Why would they not be happy? Perhaps better than they

:43:16. > :43:20.anticipated when they came into it. They came in and wanted to get some

:43:20. > :43:24.experience and they have come out with much more. If they put their

:43:24. > :43:29.mind to it... We have come to the end up our time here. Laura Trott

:43:29. > :43:32.will be on the website and we are back tomorrow on BBC Two and the

:43:32. > :43:37.BBC HD channel from 11 in the morning, we have got Becky James in

:43:37. > :43:40.the keirin, possibly going for medal number four. Laura Trott and

:43:41. > :43:45.the final three events of the omnium, can she defend her title?

:43:45. > :43:55.And then we have got the madison, Simon Yates and Owen Doull going in
