:00:35. > :00:43.Good afternoon. Welcome to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 22,000

:00:44. > :00:52.people have been through the doors here at the Vale drome. This is what

:00:53. > :01:00.they've come to see today. Very shortly we will see the women's

:01:01. > :01:04.semifinals. Then we will see Jason Kenny in the men's keirin 2nd round.

:01:05. > :01:12.His fiancee Laura Trott shortly after that in the final race of the

:01:13. > :01:15.women's omnium. She leads the points standings. Hopefully, Jason Kenny in

:01:16. > :01:21.the men's keirin final but everything could happen. Finally,

:01:22. > :01:29.the men's Madison with Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish joining

:01:30. > :01:34.forces are probably for the 1st time. I'm joined by Sir Chris Hoy

:01:35. > :01:40.and Dame Sarah Storey. We're starting with the man who filled

:01:41. > :01:45.your shoes as the king of British sprinting. Jason Kenny was through

:01:46. > :01:48.to the best of 3 final. Simon Brotherton and Chris Boardman can

:01:49. > :02:09.tell is exactly what happened. COMMENTATOR: What a battle this

:02:10. > :02:12.promises to be. This will come down to tactics. Both have shown

:02:13. > :02:19.themselves to be the strongest sprinters here. The right riders in

:02:20. > :02:23.this final, for sure. Jason Kenny looking to be the world sprint

:02:24. > :02:34.champion for a 2nd time in his career. A 3rd rainbow jersey for

:02:35. > :02:43.him. Best of 3 final. Glaetzer 23 years of age from Adelaide. A rider

:02:44. > :02:54.on the way up. He has beaten 2 world champions to get here, including the

:02:55. > :03:01.defending champion from France. He is accelerating, trying to make it

:03:02. > :03:05.look like he isn't. He nearly tempted Kenny to coincide and

:03:06. > :03:12.stalled him. They take the bell and Kenny goes up the banking. Can Kenny

:03:13. > :03:20.close the gap down the back straight road on by the London crowd. On the

:03:21. > :03:27.line. I think the Australian just gets it on the line. Glaetzer has

:03:28. > :03:33.been excellent in this series of races. The pressure is on him

:03:34. > :03:41.because he is so close to the gold medal. Here we go. The sprint is on.

:03:42. > :03:47.They take the bell. Next time over the line, fighting for 1st position.

:03:48. > :03:53.Glaetzer on the outside of Kenny. Kenny is digging really deep. It is

:03:54. > :03:58.on for the Australian. But what a run from Jason Kenny! He is still

:03:59. > :04:06.alive in this final. It will go to the wire. The World Championship

:04:07. > :04:13.final goes to a decider. Great Britain against Australia. Jason

:04:14. > :04:17.Kenny, the Olympic champion against Matthew Glaetzer will lead on this

:04:18. > :04:26.opening lap. He is not short of support. We talked about the power

:04:27. > :04:31.needed for the sprint finish. Jason Kenny has power to wait for that

:04:32. > :04:37.superb acceleration that Glaetzer kept him pinned with in that superb

:04:38. > :04:42.previous round. They are going at a fair old lick. They both want to get

:04:43. > :04:48.this 1 under way. Glaetzer did well when he led in the previous round.

:04:49. > :04:53.He might see himself as having an advantage, if he can stop Kenny from

:04:54. > :05:00.gaining the front position. Riding with the Australian here. Jason

:05:01. > :05:05.Kenny keeping him in close proximity. They are not hanging

:05:06. > :05:10.around. A lap and a half to go. They want to get it over with. Different

:05:11. > :05:16.tactics. Glazer will lead from the front. Jason Kenny looks to get the

:05:17. > :05:21.advantage of going up but he has a lot of work to do. Into the back

:05:22. > :05:25.straight. Can Jason Kenny claw the gap back. Into the finishing

:05:26. > :05:31.straight they go. Jason Kenny is going to do it! He is the champion

:05:32. > :05:39.of the world. For the 3rd time in his career. His 2nd world sprint

:05:40. > :05:49.crown. The Olympic champion is back where he likes racing best. At the

:05:50. > :05:56.Velodrome in London. Gold for Jason Kenny and he did it the hard way.

:05:57. > :06:05.That was much sprinting at its absolute best. STUDIO: Jason Kenny

:06:06. > :06:12.absolutely elated as you would expect. His fiancee Laura Trott. A

:06:13. > :06:16.funny little wink between them. After that, I'm afraid he was sick

:06:17. > :06:22.into a bucket because of the effort it had taken out of him! How big an

:06:23. > :06:28.achievement is that? As big as anything he has achieved so far.

:06:29. > :06:33.Definitely up there with his Olympic performance in 2012. So great to see

:06:34. > :06:39.him back on form. People were mystified why he cannot reproduce

:06:40. > :06:44.this form year after year. Form is elusive. Whatever has happened, in

:06:45. > :06:48.his head, he has got himself together. You see what it meant to

:06:49. > :06:52.him as he crossed the line. He is a calm guy who doesn't give away a lot

:06:53. > :07:00.usually but you can see what it meant to him. Sarah, important

:07:01. > :07:07.timing in an Olympic year. Definitely. You can't get better

:07:08. > :07:13.timing than that. We are going to the women's sprint semifinals. This

:07:14. > :07:19.will be cat and mouse. COMMENTATOR: Hello, everyone. We are about to go

:07:20. > :07:22.with this 1st semifinal in the women's sprint. 1 of the all-time

:07:23. > :07:34.greats in the white with the greenhouse it. Anna Meares, the

:07:35. > :07:47.Olympic champion who beat the British contender in the Olympics.

:07:48. > :07:52.She has had some time out of the sport. She looked as though she was

:07:53. > :07:57.heading for retirement. Thinking about life after cycling. She

:07:58. > :08:04.realised she was still enjoying it. Straight back in at the top level as

:08:05. > :08:11.we would expect. It is a 3 lap race, the best of 3 semifinal. The Chinese

:08:12. > :08:27.rider will lead off on the opening half lap. Jun Hong Lin showed good

:08:28. > :08:31.form in the World Cup meeting. Meares took time out after the

:08:32. > :08:36.Olympic Games in London and has been slowly working her way back. She has

:08:37. > :08:42.been plagued by back problems over the last year. She roared back

:08:43. > :08:46.strongly in the Australian national Championships at the start of the

:08:47. > :08:50.year adding to her enormous collection of national

:08:51. > :08:59.championships. It seems to be an issue that they are able to manage

:09:00. > :09:05.at the moment. Hoping for a clear run, injury free until the Rio

:09:06. > :09:10.Olympics. Very carefully riding here, almost touching the back

:09:11. > :09:23.wheel. Trying to get this sprint under way with 2 laps under way.

:09:24. > :09:37.Moving up the track now. Trying to encourage Meares.

:09:38. > :09:44.Meares being watched very carefully by Jun Hong Lin. The sprint has

:09:45. > :09:50.opened up. The Chinese rider keeps looking behind her. She needs to get

:09:51. > :09:54.going here and try and hang on with Meares trying to go around the

:09:55. > :10:00.outside and finding it difficult. It has been taken by Jun Hong Lin from

:10:01. > :10:06.China. An excellent result for the Chinese rider. An interesting

:10:07. > :10:13.result. Almost as I mentioned experience, Meares allowed herself

:10:14. > :10:18.to be dictated to. It was very close. No potential for accelerating

:10:19. > :10:23.onto the wheel and using the slipstream. She was very close all

:10:24. > :10:32.the way through. Left at all to do in the final bend. A bit of a

:10:33. > :10:40.surprise. Anna Meares didn't have the speed to come around and get

:10:41. > :10:43.past Jun Hong Lin. She has one more chance if she is to make it through

:10:44. > :10:55.into the World Championship final. Junhong Lin still with her nose in

:10:56. > :11:17.front in the semifinal. Vogel is one of the fans favourites

:11:18. > :11:32.from around the world. She is up against a very strong Chinese

:11:33. > :11:44.opponent. Their best sprinter over the last ten years hasn't even made

:11:45. > :11:48.it to the final. They were disqualified as they were in the

:11:49. > :11:52.run-up to the Olympic Games with the changeover. Clearly, though, the

:11:53. > :12:06.physical ability is there in the team. Zhong leads off but you would

:12:07. > :12:09.favour Vogel. She is a very flamboyant competitor, gives great

:12:10. > :12:17.interviews, very succinct and strong character. Christina Vogel has come

:12:18. > :12:23.back so well after being seriously injured in 2009. Involved in an

:12:24. > :12:27.accident on the road. A couple of days in a coma with various broken

:12:28. > :12:33.bones. She has fought back to the top. Works as a police officer. That

:12:34. > :12:39.will be her full-time career when she finishes cycling. She has taken

:12:40. > :12:44.time out in the lead up to the Olympic Games to concentrate on her

:12:45. > :12:53.dream of becoming Olympic sprint champion. Deciding to put some pace

:12:54. > :12:59.into this ride. Taking the lead there might have been a mistake.

:13:00. > :13:02.Letting her have the advantage. Pushing up the speed, weaving around

:13:03. > :13:08.the track to make it difficult to know which side to pass. Slowly

:13:09. > :13:17.accelerating as they take the bell. Vogel leading the way. Zhong trying

:13:18. > :13:28.to close the gap down the closing straight. Not very much. She is

:13:29. > :13:33.starting to close it. Stena -- Vogel was in a race that she didn't expect

:13:34. > :13:38.to be in. She was in an excellent position but I think she has been

:13:39. > :13:43.beaten here by the rider from China. Indeed she has. The two big names in

:13:44. > :13:51.the semifinal are both behind in the best of three series. That was

:13:52. > :13:56.beautifully ridden by Zhong. She didn't panic. Accelerated into the

:13:57. > :14:04.slipstream. A final kick in the home straight took her over the top of

:14:05. > :14:07.the German. STUDIO: China have the advantage in both semifinals but it

:14:08. > :14:15.is best of three. We will be back for the second race is in age. It is

:14:16. > :14:20.the keirin coming on. The warm weather biker leads out and then

:14:21. > :14:25.peels away and the races sprint. It can be dramatic and quite dangerous

:14:26. > :14:31.have a look at Jason Kenny's first ride this morning. Talk is it. --

:14:32. > :14:41.talk as through it. Unfortunately, the American goes

:14:42. > :14:47.down, too. It's one of those events. There's not much space to manoeuvre.

:14:48. > :14:54.The guys are going fast. Jason is doing all right here. Watch the

:14:55. > :15:00.rider, the Polish man, coming out on his lane, almost causing a second

:15:01. > :15:06.accident but Jason kept his cool. Then the German on the outside. Goes

:15:07. > :15:10.around the outside. And Jason are safely through to the second round.

:15:11. > :15:15.Showing that the power of Jason Kenny whose speedy as well but has

:15:16. > :15:19.unbelievable balance for the visitors who he will face in the

:15:20. > :15:24.second round. Obviously last night, winning the Sprint, physically

:15:25. > :15:29.exhausting for him. At the productive it to back-up? Very tough

:15:30. > :15:34.but the hardest part is the morning session. During the qualifying ride.

:15:35. > :15:38.You got to do it safely. He's had a chance to recover, and knows this is

:15:39. > :15:42.the last session and we are hopefully on for a medal if you can

:15:43. > :15:50.get through this. COMMENTATOR: As you would expect and

:15:51. > :15:59.excellent line-up for the Keirin second round. Kelemen is the current

:16:00. > :16:05.champion. You have the champion from Great Britain, is also previously

:16:06. > :16:09.won the title. He's getting a hero 's welcome as he returns to the

:16:10. > :16:16.scene of his triumph last night. The New Zealander has a gold medal in

:16:17. > :16:23.the team Sprint as does Sam Webster. The German has become the new world

:16:24. > :16:27.kilo champion. And the Russian is a European silver medallist in this

:16:28. > :16:32.race. A collapse of the track. The journey bike at the front increasing

:16:33. > :16:38.its place. Before disappearing with 2.5 laps to go. And then the race is

:16:39. > :16:42.on. They have to stay behind it. He's happy to take the last position

:16:43. > :16:46.at the moment. Having watched the footage a few times from that

:16:47. > :16:51.morning, looked in great shape, looking around, sprinting full tilt,

:16:52. > :16:57.monitoring things and calculating what he needed to do just to

:16:58. > :17:00.qualify, so he may feel stiff after yesterday's escapades, which he got

:17:01. > :17:05.a great reward for, of course, but he looks good this morning. The

:17:06. > :17:09.riders have been through the same process, so everybody is at a

:17:10. > :17:14.similar level of fatigue. You have to fill it in the first three, and

:17:15. > :17:21.then go through to the final. -- finish. Then you are going to the

:17:22. > :17:27.minor final. A good competition here for Jason Kenny from Great Britain.

:17:28. > :17:37.I think he could get into the top three here. The Russian is the first

:17:38. > :17:42.rider behind the bike and then the two riders from New Zealand there.

:17:43. > :17:47.Immediately following the Russian. Dawkins is the first of the two

:17:48. > :17:54.Kiwis. Sam Webster, the Commonwealth Sprint champion, is wearing white

:17:55. > :18:00.gloves. Then the last rider, who won the last title, brought to a great

:18:01. > :18:05.crescendo and the rider in the blue, with a red and white stripe down his

:18:06. > :18:14.back is Kelemen, the European champion Czech Republic. Jason Kenny

:18:15. > :18:17.up the rear. It will be interesting to see whether the New Zealanders

:18:18. > :18:23.tried to use their strength in numbers fall it looks like they

:18:24. > :18:32.will. At the moment, Dawkins going to the front. The kilo champion is

:18:33. > :18:36.on his wheels. Jason Kenny in third place looking hungry. Kelemen at the

:18:37. > :18:44.back. Following in second place, Dawkins. He is right on his heels.

:18:45. > :18:50.One lap to go. He is big, strong, powerful and racing at the front,

:18:51. > :18:53.Dawkins is trying to chase them down. Jason Kenny is in a good

:18:54. > :19:00.position to qualify for the final. Jason Kenny is across the line. He

:19:01. > :19:06.rode that absolutely beautifully. You could see that he said, right,

:19:07. > :19:10.I'm in third place. I just need to stop them coming around. He was

:19:11. > :19:17.looking backwards during the Sprint. He just needed to do enough to

:19:18. > :19:25.qualify. They could not have done better. A great leader, Kelemen. So,

:19:26. > :19:28.he led from the front and stayed there all the way round but we know

:19:29. > :19:33.he has got the staying power and show that over at four laps the

:19:34. > :19:36.other day, winning the gold medals and Dawkins was always competitive

:19:37. > :19:40.at the front of the race and untroubled in terms of the final but

:19:41. > :19:45.Jason Kenny, as well, in terms of making it through to a final in a

:19:46. > :19:50.Keirin, that was about as untroubled as it gets. He will be happy with

:19:51. > :19:54.that. It was almost a repeat of the first round where he did what he

:19:55. > :20:00.needed to do and road with great confidence. I suppose, when evil but

:20:01. > :20:04.got a gold medal in your bag, you know you're already world champion

:20:05. > :20:08.so everything else is a bonus. He can afford to ride with confidence.

:20:09. > :20:12.It was interesting to see the New Zealanders thought about getting

:20:13. > :20:16.together but no one was going to give the opportunity. Confirmation

:20:17. > :20:24.of the result: the Russian rider just edged out. Sam Webster bringing

:20:25. > :20:35.up the rear. Here we are in the thick of the race looking at the

:20:36. > :20:40.Russian rider Shurshin. You get the indication of the hurly-burly of it

:20:41. > :20:44.in the final couple of laps of the Keirin race. Elbows out at times but

:20:45. > :20:50.that one, certainly for those at the front, a relatively clean ride and

:20:51. > :20:51.straightforward. Those three flew to the final. The second semifinal

:20:52. > :21:12.coming up now including: Perves does not appear to be on top

:21:13. > :21:20.form this week but he may prove us wrong this afternoon. The German in

:21:21. > :21:27.there as well. There is Omelchenko from Azerbaijan. And here is Awang

:21:28. > :21:36.from the lazier. The Japanese rider, who was third in the Japan track cap

:21:37. > :21:40.Keirin last year. Perves, if he is informed, had a decent draw in the

:21:41. > :21:44.semifinal and should be able to get through. We will find out what he

:21:45. > :21:48.has got in his legs now. We've not seen his form yet, that's for sure.

:21:49. > :21:56.A little bit lacklustre considering how dominant he was 12 months ago.

:21:57. > :22:04.Here is a chance to redeem himself. The German rider in this race is in

:22:05. > :22:09.second bite at the moment, Maximilian Levy. An interesting

:22:10. > :22:13.character. He finished second behind Chris Foy in the Olympic Games a few

:22:14. > :22:28.years ago in the Keirin and what a final that was and Chris Holley's

:22:29. > :22:33.six Olympic title. -- Sir Chris. The real big hitter in a semifinal

:22:34. > :22:39.line-up but Awang from the lazier is very popular and has been around for

:22:40. > :22:45.very long time as well finished with a silver medal six years ago. He is

:22:46. > :22:53.a very canny rider and will spot every opportunity. One of the best

:22:54. > :22:58.it handlers on the track. Levy, real power. One of the favourites here.

:22:59. > :23:05.Perves, something of an unknown. Lacklustre start to the week.

:23:06. > :23:09.Interesting to see if there is a surprisingly from somebody. Maybe

:23:10. > :23:16.from the Korean rider who was just behind the journey bike at the

:23:17. > :23:23.moment. He won the title of the new Asian championships. The team Sprint

:23:24. > :23:31.champion of Asia. We'll keep an eye on him. Korea and Germany leading

:23:32. > :23:37.the way. Japan in third. Awang in the yellow and black of Malaysia.

:23:38. > :23:45.Perves in the navy blue of France. And then Omelchenko from Azerbaijan.

:23:46. > :23:50.You can see them jockey for position. They can't overlap the

:23:51. > :23:57.journey bike, remember. They can accelerate early. But exactly what

:23:58. > :24:01.has happened here. Awang moving up from the rear portion of the field

:24:02. > :24:07.up into second place at the moment. Following the rider from Korea. He

:24:08. > :24:11.leads the way as he moves around the outside. A very aesthetic

:24:12. > :24:17.celebration there. One lap to go now. He leads the way. Levy. The

:24:18. > :24:24.Japanese rider tries to go around outside. Being held off by Awang at

:24:25. > :24:32.the moment. And so, Germany, Malaysia and Japan go through and

:24:33. > :24:36.the defending champion will not be able to defend his title in the

:24:37. > :24:41.final. He has not got the former. He looked out of sorts this morning. He

:24:42. > :24:48.was never a factor in this race. You can see him there, look at the gap

:24:49. > :24:52.back to Perves. He could not accelerate. It could not match it at

:24:53. > :24:59.all. Levy, the speed he went forward, sheer power, he was not

:25:00. > :25:05.going to do it, qualify. He came in lengths ahead of the opposition.

:25:06. > :25:15.Chris Holley can tell you all about Maximilian Levy, one of its great

:25:16. > :25:18.rivals over the years. Jason Kenny of course has already qualified.

:25:19. > :25:22.They will all go for gold a little later on.

:25:23. > :25:26.CLARE BALDING: It's going to be some gold medal race. Levy went so early,

:25:27. > :25:32.Chris. He was flying ahead of the rest of them. He went with about 1.5

:25:33. > :25:38.laps to go. Incredible performance. The best we've seen him since 2012.

:25:39. > :25:43.Would you make him the favourite for the final? How did you assess

:25:44. > :25:50.Jason's race? He has to conserve energy up to this point so far. He

:25:51. > :25:57.knows he can do a thousand kilos a metre, his competitor. He leaves to

:25:58. > :25:59.conserve energy. He can accelerate off the wheel. He is accelerating

:26:00. > :26:12.here. He isn't is in the perfect position. He's got

:26:13. > :26:17.feeling fantastic hasn't he? He's got nothing to prove now. If he can

:26:18. > :26:21.get a medal in the Keirin, that will be fantastic for him. Being in the

:26:22. > :26:26.form of such a big thing and you see someone like Perves gone out. The

:26:27. > :26:32.French team generally have not been good, have they? They were so

:26:33. > :26:44.dominant this time last year. The air, I'm speechless, really. Talking

:26:45. > :26:48.a big names in cycling, Meares has to do when that if she is going to

:26:49. > :26:54.contest the gold medal. COMMENTATOR: So, Meares in the last

:26:55. > :26:57.chance saloon. The 32-year-old, the world Sprint champion back in 2011,

:26:58. > :27:03.her Sprint medal was a bronze a year later in them well championships in

:27:04. > :27:06.Melbourne head of the London games and Victoria Pendleton won the gold

:27:07. > :27:12.medal that year both in London and in the World Championships. Meares

:27:13. > :27:17.was a world champion as recently as a year ago in the Keirin but that's

:27:18. > :27:24.the only world title she is one in the last four years and having lost

:27:25. > :27:27.the first ride against Junhong, she has to win this one. It great

:27:28. > :27:34.opportunity for Junhong to make it into the final and race for gold

:27:35. > :27:46.this afternoon. A real surprise therefore Meares. Junhong rode

:27:47. > :27:50.beautifully, confident ride. Going so slowly you could walk alongside

:27:51. > :27:55.them at the moment. That's exactly what they have to do. A minimum of

:27:56. > :28:08.half a lap of walking place. The number one position is obliged to

:28:09. > :28:09.take the position. Two riders just watching each

:28:10. > :28:26.other intently, looking out for any movement. Mind games between the

:28:27. > :28:30.pair of them. Meares taking it very, very slowly on the opening lap.

:28:31. > :28:44.Music in the auditorium also adds to the crowd. Surely psychological,

:28:45. > :28:51.this. Just wait until it's time to unleash that Sprint. Power comes at

:28:52. > :29:00.a cost. To sustain top speed frat handful of seconds. Great skill from

:29:01. > :29:08.both of them and Meares just trying to force the issue little bit here.

:29:09. > :29:16.So experienced, Meares. 11 times world champion. Twice in the Olympic

:29:17. > :29:27.Games. And the reigning Olympic Sprint champion.

:29:28. > :29:34.The first lap just completed between the pair of them. Junhong just

:29:35. > :29:36.content to bite her time, not being forced into doing anything she

:29:37. > :29:40.doesn't want to do by the Australian. Where just waiting to

:29:41. > :29:44.see if they were going to do a standstill. It didn't happen too

:29:45. > :29:50.much on the 250 track. It's not such a big advantage to get it in the

:29:51. > :29:53.rear position but they can do that for 30 seconds and the gun will be

:29:54. > :30:07.fired. If they continue to do that. Want a game of cat and mouse they

:30:08. > :30:14.are playing here. There is only a lap and a half to go. The rider with

:30:15. > :30:19.good acceleration is going to have an advantage. Meares is keeping it

:30:20. > :30:28.as low as possible, so she thinks it is her. Junhong Lin takes a minor

:30:29. > :30:35.advantage. It is on the line for Meares. She hasn't got enough. She

:30:36. > :30:44.will have two settle for bronze at best. What a ride from Junhong Lin.

:30:45. > :30:53.She wins in two straight rights. Meares says she is only at 90% of

:30:54. > :30:59.her best didn't quite have that extra speed. She tried to control

:31:00. > :31:03.the race holding the inside position which is exactly what she wanted to

:31:04. > :31:08.do. There was an engine difference between the two. Junhong Lin

:31:09. > :31:14.superior on formal. She could deal with the fact that she didn't have

:31:15. > :31:25.it actively right. She made her come on the wrong way round on to banking

:31:26. > :31:33.is. A worthy winner. Anna Meares who won silver in the keirin behind

:31:34. > :31:37.Christina Vogel. She didn't have a bad championship. She said she was

:31:38. > :31:44.happy with it. She won't be happy with losing straight rights to Lynne

:31:45. > :31:50.John Hahn. She has had to take a step backwards in order to move

:31:51. > :31:58.forward. A lot of her winter preparation was put on hold. Because

:31:59. > :32:18.of her black rubber. -- because of her back problem.

:32:19. > :32:29.Zhong Tianshi when the first race. We have had a few surprises in terms

:32:30. > :32:33.of who has been winning these races. The British team have much to be

:32:34. > :32:40.optimistic about but there is a greater strength in depth across the

:32:41. > :32:46.world in track cycling. In terms of the sport, it can only be a good

:32:47. > :32:52.thing. Certainly, in terms of women's sprinting. Becky James is

:32:53. > :33:01.the big hope to come back for Rio. Assuming that she gets selected.

:33:02. > :33:09.Both for the keirin and the sprint. Christina Vogel looking to add to

:33:10. > :33:16.her seven world titles across the seven sprint disciplines. She has

:33:17. > :33:22.been in this before. She doesn't give in or do mind games. She just

:33:23. > :33:30.doesn't with power. She won't be fazed by being one down. We are

:33:31. > :33:35.going for a standstill. The clock will have started. 30 seconds they

:33:36. > :33:39.get. The lead rider is directed to lead-off. If they don't, they are

:33:40. > :33:44.relegated. They used to go on for minutes. You could be waiting for

:33:45. > :33:50.ten minutes or so for the race to continue. Two laps to go as they

:33:51. > :34:00.come around this time. Both riders head to the top of the track. Vogel

:34:01. > :34:09.is tempting Zhong Tianshi to come on the outside. She has let her get the

:34:10. > :34:15.inside line. Zhong Tianshi on the inside now. Christina Vogel left the

:34:16. > :34:22.door open. She found herself pushed through the barriers. Vogel has to

:34:23. > :34:31.win this to get through to the final. Zhong Tianshi holds her

:34:32. > :34:36.wrath. Around comes Vogel. Vogel has been beaten. What a turn up. And all

:34:37. > :34:43.Chinese final to look forward to in the women's sprint. She was beaten

:34:44. > :34:49.with about a lap to go. She gave away the front position. Realised

:34:50. > :34:54.what she had done. Tried to accelerate but didn't have the power

:34:55. > :35:05.to get around the top. Couldn't make it. It was too far to come around.

:35:06. > :35:11.Banging elbows there. An extra ten metres way too much to ask. She

:35:12. > :35:19.could almost see in her face that she knows she's not going to make

:35:20. > :35:24.it. Their experience tells. Two tactical mistakes. Unusual for the

:35:25. > :35:28.German. It is a surprise that she has not got through. She looked in

:35:29. > :35:39.really good form here. Christina Vogel will not make it a hat-trick.

:35:40. > :35:44.The coach who broke his hand slamming it across the table in

:35:45. > :35:48.frustration at his team's disqualification will not be feeling

:35:49. > :35:57.the pain now. Both his winning through to the final. Both races won

:35:58. > :36:04.in straight rights here. That has got is underway. Confirmation that

:36:05. > :36:11.Junhong Lin and Zhong Tianshi will race for gold and silver. Christina

:36:12. > :36:23.Vogel will race against Anna Meares for the bronze and silver.

:36:24. > :36:43.I feel like I'm going back to where it all began. The crowd are lifting

:36:44. > :36:47.her. She is now in the lead. Before London 2012, I was taking it as it

:36:48. > :36:59.came and I didn't know what to expect. Great riding, Laura! Laura

:37:00. > :37:04.Trott is on fire! I love being in front of a home crowd. It is

:37:05. > :37:12.massive. It really does give you that extra edge. The concluding

:37:13. > :37:18.event in the Omnium. The gold medal is going to come to Laura Trott. The

:37:19. > :37:26.feeling you get, the buzz is incredible. It is one that I really

:37:27. > :37:32.look forward to. She just loves cycling. A huge smile and a huge

:37:33. > :37:39.talent. She really is the queen of the track. She certainly is. Her

:37:40. > :37:47.performances have been most impressive. She is so cool, calm and

:37:48. > :37:51.collected on the track. They used to be her weak part but they are her

:37:52. > :37:57.strength now. She burst to prominence in London 2012 but she

:37:58. > :38:05.still is only 23 years old. Another Olympics to come. She was a junior

:38:06. > :38:11.champion who has already been always been very talented. She came through

:38:12. > :38:15.into the senior squad with her natural speed and ability to change

:38:16. > :38:21.pace and hold the front for a long time. We have seen her do some huge

:38:22. > :38:27.turns in the team pursuit. The way she backs up from race to race is

:38:28. > :38:31.very impressive. She has had the busiest programme of anyone in the

:38:32. > :38:36.team. She already has a bronze from the team pursuit and a gold medal

:38:37. > :38:46.from the scratch race. The Omnium is a multidiscipline event. We are

:38:47. > :38:55.coming to the last of six events. In the scratch race, Laura Trott won

:38:56. > :39:02.the sprint from third. Next, the three kilometre individual pursuit.

:39:03. > :39:09.Trott's time gave her second place. Behind her great rival Sarah Hamer

:39:10. > :39:20.from the United States. The third race was her speciality. It came

:39:21. > :39:23.down to a shoot out with Hamer. A win for Hamer and the two sat level

:39:24. > :39:30.at the top of the rankings overnight. Today began the 500

:39:31. > :39:38.metres time trial and the two leaders went off together. Trott's

:39:39. > :39:47.explosive space gave her a 14 point advantage with two rights to go.

:39:48. > :40:01.Next, the flying lap. Trott kept her advantage by clocking 14.2 16. It

:40:02. > :40:08.extended her lead over Hamer. 12 points isn't very much when you have

:40:09. > :40:16.a potential to win, we saw yesterday the German rider win 55 points. Not

:40:17. > :40:22.as many sprints on offer. A shorter race. Everything is in the balance.

:40:23. > :40:27.They have waited it towards the points race to favour the endurance

:40:28. > :40:35.athletes. How was she feeling yesterday? She was a little bit down

:40:36. > :40:39.after the elimination race. She has bounced back strongly and she seems

:40:40. > :40:46.like she is focused and ready. Although Sarah Hamer beat her, she

:40:47. > :41:02.has suffered since. Laura tried to box her in and get

:41:03. > :41:08.her eliminated early. She had to go up the banking a lot and has

:41:09. > :41:15.expended a lot of energy. 100 laps ahead of them with tens sprints.

:41:16. > :41:18.Points for winning the sprints. Simon Brotherton and Chris Boardman

:41:19. > :41:25.can explain to you how bonus points can be won. COMMENTATOR: Just

:41:26. > :41:32.rolling around for the first of the 100 laps. The race will start when

:41:33. > :41:37.they cross the line next time. Sprints every ten laps four points

:41:38. > :41:45.on the line. Five points maximum, three, two, one. 50 points on the

:41:46. > :41:50.cards. All importantly, as Claire alluded to, if you gain a lap, 20

:41:51. > :41:57.points bonus and you are sprinting with everybody else for the next.

:41:58. > :42:07.The potential is to overhaul the advantages which look very big but

:42:08. > :42:19.can disappear quickly. Laura Trott overall has a 12 point lead over her

:42:20. > :42:25.next competitor. 184 points. Sarah Hammer is in the bronze medal

:42:26. > :42:34.position. Let Edmundson from Australia is fourth at the moment.

:42:35. > :42:39.The Belgian in fifth. Alison Beveridge up there on 130. It is a

:42:40. > :42:47.very strong field. Some really good riders here. The tactics are going

:42:48. > :43:01.to be very interesting. We have got some strong riders. For some of the

:43:02. > :43:05.riders, the gaps aren't very big. A couple of lap gains and suddenly

:43:06. > :43:10.they can be a real threat. While they take a lap, they can mop up

:43:11. > :43:17.points. Lots of riders are in the mix. The rider from the Netherlands

:43:18. > :43:39.in Orange. Durer of Belgian at the front. A

:43:40. > :43:45.really good road rider. The national champion of Belgium last year. One

:43:46. > :43:55.couple of races on the road. She could be a factor. Close enough on

:43:56. > :44:01.150 points to be a real threat. She can't be allowed to gain a lap. That

:44:02. > :44:13.is what Laura Trott has to look out for. You must look at a wider group

:44:14. > :44:21.as far as taking a lap is concerned. The first attack is from the

:44:22. > :44:30.Italian. We saw her riding in the road on the women's Tour. She took a

:44:31. > :44:36.couple of decent stage placings. Just get things moving more quickly.

:44:37. > :44:41.Edmundson in the white with the yellow and Queen of Australia. Good

:44:42. > :44:45.to see her performing well towards the top end after finally becoming

:44:46. > :44:57.world champion last year. She had a nasty accident. BELL

:44:58. > :45:06.Lawler trot in second place. The German is up there too but she is

:45:07. > :45:11.being left behind. -- Laura Trott. Coming back stronger. But not strong

:45:12. > :45:16.enough in that first Sprint. That's a very good positive start for Laura

:45:17. > :45:19.Trott. Very cleverly written. She had an opportunity to take on the

:45:20. > :45:25.lead with a lap to go but wisely stayed behind. Scoring the odd

:45:26. > :45:34.points and saving energy. If she hadn't gone for that, Hammer were

:45:35. > :45:44.taking the points. Laura Trott's leader goes off. 189. Hammer, USA,

:45:45. > :45:56.169. Edmondson in fourth place at the moment, 152 points, a danger

:45:57. > :46:01.rider. She's got some help this time. Alison Beveridge has won a

:46:02. > :46:06.silver medal in the team pursuit in the week. She's involved at the

:46:07. > :46:12.front. Edmondson knows she has to make this race animated. She has

:46:13. > :46:16.some catching up to do. Quite a battle at the moment between here

:46:17. > :46:20.and Hammer to get onto the podium. Sarah Hammer already collecting

:46:21. > :46:25.three points from that first Sprint. A difficult race to control, this

:46:26. > :46:29.one. As soon as someone falls, everyone will look at Laura Trott

:46:30. > :46:32.and say, it's up to you to do the chasing. The rider from the

:46:33. > :46:37.Netherlands, another really good road rider. She can power along all

:46:38. > :46:42.day given half the chance. She will have a chance here because she is in

:46:43. > :46:48.seventh place at the moment so no threat for Laura Trott, even if she

:46:49. > :46:53.gains a lap so the onus is not on the British rider to do the chasing

:46:54. > :46:59.here. She is really making some inroads here. Yes, seventh overall

:47:00. > :47:05.at the moment on 126 points. Some considerable way down. The world

:47:06. > :47:13.champion last year in the scratch race, she won the Omnium in the

:47:14. > :47:17.World Cup. She's enjoying some daylight here. She has a lead of

:47:18. > :47:27.over half a lap. The chase being led by the rider from China. But, at the

:47:28. > :47:32.front, she is leading the way as she tries to gain a lap early. I think

:47:33. > :47:37.she's going to do it. They have not been hanging around, either. I don't

:47:38. > :47:42.know if she has been pushing into the rest and is about to pay the

:47:43. > :47:46.price. Buy ahead of this next Sprint, she will take four points.

:47:47. > :47:52.That will be 25 in total which will push her Apple board. Looking for

:47:53. > :47:57.the points on offer and looking to keep going. Hopefully she can latch

:47:58. > :48:07.onto the back of that pack and gain the extra points available should

:48:08. > :48:10.she managed to do so. The China rider, Ling, looks like she will

:48:11. > :48:15.claim three points. The rider with her was Gonzales of Venezuela.

:48:16. > :48:19.Venezuela is getting a couple of points there. Laura Trott tucked

:48:20. > :48:26.into the main field along with the other medal contenders at the

:48:27. > :48:31.moment. This plays into the hands of Laura Trott. She's mopping up the

:48:32. > :48:37.points, taking it away from the real threat. It's absolutely perfect for

:48:38. > :48:42.her. Just 40 minutes of the back of that group. She'll certainly make

:48:43. > :48:46.the junction which will put her into having a good chance of a podium.

:48:47. > :48:52.Just one point behind a net Edmondson who was fourth at the

:48:53. > :49:02.moment, should she gain a lap. She still working hard, WILD. Sarah

:49:03. > :49:06.Hammer have been looking at opportunities to move up the table.

:49:07. > :49:11.Now she would have to move backwards as well because Edmondson is bearing

:49:12. > :49:16.down on her. Wild is about to be in a similar position. It's going to be

:49:17. > :49:25.a tactically different position for the American very soon. The Belgian

:49:26. > :49:38.at the other end of the pack at the front end, the pointy end, makes a

:49:39. > :49:43.move, D'Hoore. She had help from the Italian Frapporti. She's really into

:49:44. > :49:48.the red now. Looking to bridge onto that last meal. We've seen riders

:49:49. > :49:51.get this close. And disappear backwards again. Never making

:49:52. > :49:58.contact. I can't believe that will happen to ride of her quality. Up to

:49:59. > :50:05.the junction now. Great writing the from Kirsten D'Hoore but she had to

:50:06. > :50:14.dig deep the way things were in front of her. Going off the front

:50:15. > :50:20.from Berthon. She won't have long to do that. This is relentless. She

:50:21. > :50:27.only got a few moments to take a breath before she needs to work her

:50:28. > :50:34.way towards the front. The advantage nullified by another attack. She is

:50:35. > :50:38.now into fifth position. 151. Just one point behind Edmondson in

:50:39. > :50:42.fourth, but she still has some work to do. They are on the Sprint lap

:50:43. > :50:47.now and it looks as if it is the rider from Belarus at the front.

:50:48. > :50:53.Coming from behind is Laura Trott trying to get into the points where

:50:54. > :51:01.the Sarah Hammer. Five points for Belarus, three for Cuba and another

:51:02. > :51:08.two for Laura. A psychological blow because she came over the top of

:51:09. > :51:21.Sarah Hammer. A real psychological blow the four Hammer, I think. A

:51:22. > :51:26.good race so far so Sarah Hammer moves up the track. There is the

:51:27. > :51:30.situation in the overall standings. Laura Trott leading the way. Wild

:51:31. > :51:35.gaming but still in fifth place having gained a lap on everybody

:51:36. > :51:40.else. -- gaming for the LS from New Zealand attacks. Jason Kenny in

:51:41. > :51:46.conversation with Mark Cavendish. We can look forward to those raising

:51:47. > :51:49.this afternoon. Jason Kenny in the men's Hammer racing for a second

:51:50. > :51:53.gold medal of the games and Mark Cavendish will line up alongside

:51:54. > :51:59.Sarah Bradley Wiggins in the Madison. They won together in 2008.

:52:00. > :52:03.This'll the first World Championship they written in the Madison since

:52:04. > :52:08.then and what a finale to the championships it is. That is later

:52:09. > :52:11.on this afternoon. This final day of the Track Cycling World

:52:12. > :52:14.Championships. At the moment, we're watching Lauren Ellis, the

:52:15. > :52:18.Commonwealth silver medallist, trying to gain a lap in which I

:52:19. > :52:25.think she will gain because, as you can see, everybody else is taking a

:52:26. > :52:29.breather. Absolutely. Great attack. Everybody riding hard, took a

:52:30. > :52:37.breather. She made short work of that. 20 points, moved right up the

:52:38. > :52:42.board. Perfect for Laura Trott. The riders, another threat for the other

:52:43. > :52:46.contenders, forcing them to ride defensively rather than offensively.

:52:47. > :52:54.She's not a factor at the moment, the from New Zealand. That bonus of

:52:55. > :52:58.20 points has taken her on 298. She is still 11, a long way behind the

:52:59. > :53:11.podium, but at least she is showing her pace at the front. Perfect

:53:12. > :53:17.timing. Certainly was. Lap 61. And D'Hoore from Belgium have a go at

:53:18. > :53:22.the front as well. The Belgian is behind her as well. Gonzales from

:53:23. > :53:27.Venezuelan, in her mid-30s now, the Pan American games, Gold medallist a

:53:28. > :53:30.few years ago, trying to hang on and collect more points. And the

:53:31. > :53:37.teenager from Denmark is going to take three points here, going over

:53:38. > :53:42.the top of the Belgian. She's collecting the five points. Denmark,

:53:43. > :53:48.three, Belarus, two, Gonzales, Venezuela, one. She happened to be

:53:49. > :53:52.coming over on the Sprint lap. Pushed on but didn't have any

:53:53. > :53:56.company here so she's thinking twice about it. A long way to go on her

:53:57. > :54:01.own when they are motoring behind so I think she will call it a day

:54:02. > :54:07.shortly. She has real star quality at the age of 19. A two-time road

:54:08. > :54:11.race champion is I think we'll hear her name a lot in years to come.

:54:12. > :54:21.She's having a little look over her shoulder, Dideriksen. Laura Trott in

:54:22. > :54:26.the gold medal position. The final race of the women's Omnium. Laura

:54:27. > :54:29.has finished second in each of the last three years of the World

:54:30. > :54:34.Championships in this championship. She was last world champion in

:54:35. > :54:38.Melbourne, 2012, head of the London Olympic Games and became the London

:54:39. > :54:41.Olympic champion as well. An offensive approach to defending

:54:42. > :54:45.their position in this race so far. Sprinting very successfully.

:54:46. > :54:52.Expanded her lead. In a good position here now. At various grant

:54:53. > :54:58.position. She's marking every move the Belgian and Hammer have made and

:54:59. > :55:06.she won't let them escape so only a surprise move from Edmondson, in

:55:07. > :55:09.touch, could start to become something of a threat but come at

:55:10. > :55:12.the moment, it's playing into her hands. The pace has forced them to

:55:13. > :55:24.slow down as they approach half distance. That will have helped

:55:25. > :55:32.Wild, On The Last Portion Of The Lap. Leading At The Moment, Ellis.

:55:33. > :55:39.Edmondson, the defending world champion right behind her. There is

:55:40. > :55:44.a real lull here. Wild is perfect for her because she is 20 points,

:55:45. > :55:50.more than 20 points off the podium but if a rider of her calibre, I

:55:51. > :55:55.don't believe she will settle for anything but a medal here. She can't

:55:56. > :56:00.do it on points, highly unlikely, so I think we'll see her in the next 50

:56:01. > :56:05.laps going for another attack. No surprise to see the Belarus rider at

:56:06. > :56:14.the front again, keeping her eye on everything. A former world champion

:56:15. > :56:19.in the points race back in 2011. Ling from China, momentarily comes

:56:20. > :56:28.to the front. Gonzales of Venezuela in third. Hama behind her. The

:56:29. > :56:35.Canadian behind her. -- Hammer. She came up the inside but Laura Trott

:56:36. > :56:42.got blocked. Not quite there. Finding their way through now. Here

:56:43. > :56:47.we are on the Sprint lap. Laura Trott goes around the outside. That

:56:48. > :56:54.will get the crowd going. Laura Trott, she shows it clean pair of

:56:55. > :56:57.heels to everyone. Laura Trott grabs five more points, just when the

:56:58. > :57:03.others thought they were about to begin to eat into her lead a little.

:57:04. > :57:11.She had the pace over hairline strategically kept her foot on the

:57:12. > :57:16.pedal. Sarah Hammer frustrated at not being able to make any inroads

:57:17. > :57:24.towards that gold medal. That title looks to be slipping away here. The

:57:25. > :57:27.three podium placed riders at the moment. Those three riders are

:57:28. > :57:34.together on the track at the moment with Hammer at the front. Laura

:57:35. > :57:38.Trott following her. About halfway back in the field. Edmondson on the

:57:39. > :57:49.front. D'Hoore up there as well behind the Russian. The Canadian

:57:50. > :57:57.with, once again, Sharapova going off the front. Looks like she's

:57:58. > :58:05.trying to spring them out of it now. The only top six can contest the

:58:06. > :58:13.medals and do outrageous things like take it. Edmondson and D'Hoore, they

:58:14. > :58:22.could threaten the podium places. The Canadian on 130, I think that is

:58:23. > :58:27.the barrier. Edmondson the defending world champion goes off the front.

:58:28. > :58:34.The German closes the gap. They gain some ground now. Dideriksen on her

:58:35. > :58:41.wheel. Towards the back of the main field of the moment. A real danger

:58:42. > :58:45.to Sarah Hammer of the United States, an attack like that

:58:46. > :58:49.succeeding. Edmondson close enough that she could score en route and

:58:50. > :58:56.overtake them, so they are the ones who have to do the chasing.

:58:57. > :59:06.Beveridge attacks now and is closed down straightaway by the rider from

:59:07. > :59:11.Cuba. The laps are ticking away now. 43 laps remaining as they come

:59:12. > :59:21.around this time. Over half distance, Laura Trott closing on

:59:22. > :59:24.that world title. Acceleration from the three-time European under 23

:59:25. > :59:28.champion who has not been able to feature towards the top end of the

:59:29. > :59:36.leaderboard, but she is looking to finish strongly and on the attack

:59:37. > :59:43.now, being followed by D'Hoore. And the rider from Japan, in fifth place

:59:44. > :59:50.at the moment in the line-out. As we go into this Sprint lap, Laura Trott

:59:51. > :59:56.is following the wheel of the French rider. It's going to be a struggle

:59:57. > :59:59.between the pair of them. Look at them go around the outside.

:00:00. > :00:06.Travelling at a different speed to the other riders on the track. Sarah

:00:07. > :00:09.Hammer lead from over the line. Laura Trott, third. All importantly,

:00:10. > :00:13.Laura Trott adds another couple of points. At this moment in time, it's

:00:14. > :00:21.looking very good for her with 40 laps to go. She is on to 198 points.

:00:22. > :00:22.Hammer, 178, in second. What a battle for the silver medal at the

:00:23. > :00:51.moment. world champion last year. She had a

:00:52. > :01:16.nasty accident. BELL 37 laps to go as they cross the

:01:17. > :01:24.finish line. Only 20 points remaining. Laura Trott doesn't have

:01:25. > :01:38.too beat anybody. She just has to stop people from taking the lap.

:01:39. > :01:46.D'Hoore digging in hard. Making it a trio of riders at the front. Angie

:01:47. > :01:56.Gonzales of Venezuelan at the front of the group behind the main field.

:01:57. > :02:07.Laura Trott making steps towards a world title. Her first of this

:02:08. > :02:14.Olympic cycle. Ellis attacking on the inside. From New Zealand. She

:02:15. > :02:23.gained a lap early in the race. She will have to gain a few if she wants

:02:24. > :02:27.to get on terms. If she were to gain another lap it would only take her

:02:28. > :02:40.up to eight. She is still fighting hard. The Cuban has decided to go

:02:41. > :02:46.after her. Beveridge has gone after her as well. Hamer decides to let

:02:47. > :03:06.her go. The Canadian will put herself on

:03:07. > :03:17.terms if she can gain a lap. That will put her in the third to fifth

:03:18. > :03:25.looping. In with a shot of a medal. Lauren Ellis against the second lap

:03:26. > :03:40.of the race. Beveridge of Canada trying to do the same thing.

:03:41. > :03:50.This is ideal for Laura Trott. All of the points being soaked up by the

:03:51. > :03:59.riders fighting for minor places. Lauren Ellis has done really well to

:04:00. > :04:07.drag herself up into eight. Dideriksen is ninth. The Cuban ten.

:04:08. > :04:20.They are marking each other. It is ridiculous. Berthon taking out

:04:21. > :04:28.Hammer in an attempt to get her out at the front. Berthon has written a

:04:29. > :04:34.very negative race. They are both on the same points. It would all be on

:04:35. > :04:43.position in the last dash for the line. 25 laps remaining. Laura Trott

:04:44. > :04:48.has got a stranglehold on it. She is leaving them to squabble at the

:04:49. > :05:03.back. They appear to have stopped watching her. What a force this is

:05:04. > :05:12.if they get really going. Hammer and Berthon are just dawdling along

:05:13. > :05:19.watching each other. Laura Trott won a scratch race earlier this season

:05:20. > :05:30.socially already -- so she already has a gold medal. The Russian rider

:05:31. > :05:36.has started to join in. This is a gift for Laura Trott. Happy to help

:05:37. > :05:45.out in this breakaway of five. Not putting too much in. The two that

:05:46. > :05:48.are riding very curiously are Hammer and Berthon who are only now

:05:49. > :05:55.thinking about getting into the race. They could see themselves in

:05:56. > :06:01.trouble. Laura Trott wants to do this in style. She is on the wheel

:06:02. > :06:05.of the Australian and benevolence. She is going to collect three more

:06:06. > :06:12.points here. Five to Australia and three to Great Britain. Laura

:06:13. > :06:17.Trott's stranglehold is basically comp leet on this women's omnium. As

:06:18. > :06:26.long as she stays upright, she is going to win. Sarah Hammer and

:06:27. > :06:35.Berthon are still locked in behind. Edmundson would need to gain a lap

:06:36. > :06:40.to get into contention. I think that Hammer and Berthon are going to see

:06:41. > :06:46.they are neutral and it will be all on the final dash. If they are level

:06:47. > :06:51.on points, it is who finished first on the final dash for the line. They

:06:52. > :06:56.have given up on attacking Laura Trott. She was so strong in the

:06:57. > :07:01.first half of this race that they have realised they can't beat her in

:07:02. > :07:06.a sprint. They have to concentrate on second and third position. Laura

:07:07. > :07:11.Trott is not obliged to score a single point. She will take the

:07:12. > :07:29.world title. Riding on the inside at the front. 17 laps to go.

:07:30. > :08:01.Edmundson is going to have a go. It has been a dangerous game played by

:08:02. > :08:15.Berthon at the back. Their podium place is not in the bag,

:08:16. > :08:21.necessarily. Beveridge and Wild. The Italian leads the chase. That is the

:08:22. > :08:26.front of the race. Berthon refusing to even go through. She's stuck to

:08:27. > :08:30.the wheel of Hammer. Banking everything on the final sprint.

:08:31. > :08:41.Everybody else is getting on with it. I don't think Wild after that

:08:42. > :08:47.huge effort has fully recovered. She is in this breakaway. It is easing

:08:48. > :08:53.in behind and she has got herself into a group of three. Not a lot she

:08:54. > :09:00.can do to contribute. They are all really tired. They are all looking

:09:01. > :09:07.at Sarah Hammer who is having to do it all alone. Berthon on her wheel

:09:08. > :09:13.and Laura Trott as well. Laura Trott in that group of three chasing. Only

:09:14. > :09:20.one point on the line at the moment. Hammer leads that sprint with

:09:21. > :09:27.Berthon. Meanwhile, Beveridge going for it at the front of the race.

:09:28. > :09:35.Waiting for confirmation of who got the points for that race to the

:09:36. > :09:44.line. It may have been the Chinese rider. Sarah Hammer took a very

:09:45. > :09:52.valuable point. She has a 1-point lead over Berthon. It is almost

:09:53. > :10:02.neutral. With a single point, it is still down to the final sprint.

:10:03. > :10:08.Berthon has two score. Hammer is not obliged to score now she has her

:10:09. > :10:11.nose in front. Laura Trott is on the verge of becoming world champion. It

:10:12. > :10:20.would be a fourth gold medal for Great Britain. And the second in an

:10:21. > :10:24.Olympic discipline. Laura Trott can afford to sit on the front and tell

:10:25. > :10:31.them to the line. Keeping everybody in check. Lauren Ellis has yet

:10:32. > :10:37.another go at trying to gain a lap. She has gained a couple in this race

:10:38. > :10:44.so fair play to her. A superb race but not a factor on the podium. Half

:10:45. > :10:47.a dozen laps to go. Dideriksen chasing after the rider from New

:10:48. > :10:57.Zealand. The Cuban is getting involved. Meanwhile, Berthon and

:10:58. > :11:07.Hammer are watching each other at the back. Berthon is the loser here.

:11:08. > :11:14.Hammer can afford to hang back. She will keep the silver medal. Berthon

:11:15. > :11:19.should have monitored the race. Points have disappeared. I think she

:11:20. > :11:24.has raced very negatively and she has paid the price. In a way, she

:11:25. > :11:30.gets what she deserves for not trying to make things happen. She

:11:31. > :11:38.hasn't animated the race at all. She is going to come unstuck if she is

:11:39. > :11:45.not careful. We go into the final three laps. Lauren Ellis is still

:11:46. > :11:54.accelerating of the banking. The first rider on the track. Berthon on

:11:55. > :11:59.the inside of the track trying to shake off Hammer. She is going for

:12:00. > :12:05.the final sprint. It is a grand finale. Berthon is going for the

:12:06. > :12:14.final sprint. Hammer is on her wheel. Head to head towards the

:12:15. > :12:19.line. Berthon has conserved enough energy to take the sprint against

:12:20. > :12:25.the American. Berthon takes the sprint to the line. Laura Trott now

:12:26. > :12:33.crosses the line as the world champion for the second time in her

:12:34. > :12:41.career. Second gold of the week. Olympic year and it is all going

:12:42. > :12:46.swimmingly for Laura Trott. Berthon France does get the silver medal.

:12:47. > :12:52.The crowd Rice to salute Laura Trott. Gold for Great Britain and

:12:53. > :12:59.gold for Laura Trott for the second time this week she will be on the

:13:00. > :13:03.top step of the podium. Crushed the opposition's morale and made them

:13:04. > :13:10.focus for a place. Beautifully consistent all the way through. A

:13:11. > :13:19.fascinating final between Berthon and Hammer. I thought Berthon had

:13:20. > :13:28.blown it. It kept the competition interesting. Laura Trott was so

:13:29. > :13:33.dominant that the gold medal was not in question for the last 30 or 40

:13:34. > :13:40.laps. The Olympic champion here four years ago. The world champion four

:13:41. > :13:43.years ago. She has settled for silver in each of the World

:13:44. > :13:53.Championships since and now she is on top of the world. Great ride by

:13:54. > :13:58.her. A little bit shaken by being bested by Sarah Hammer in the

:13:59. > :14:08.elimination race which is her forte. Came back and battered this final

:14:09. > :14:13.event. Jason Kenny, meanwhile, tries to focus on what is to come for him.

:14:14. > :14:27.No doubt, thoroughly delighted with what has happened. It is one

:14:28. > :14:35.upmanship for them in that household. How many medals have you

:14:36. > :14:44.got? A very dominant performance in the women's omnium. Berthon staked

:14:45. > :14:45.it all on the last sprint and she was proved right but I thought she

:14:46. > :14:54.was playing a very dangerous game. Laura Trott, with three medals from

:14:55. > :15:08.these championships, she's had a very busy schedule. On top of the

:15:09. > :15:11.world. Going into Rio with the best possible preparation. Certainly

:15:12. > :15:17.giving the other is plenty to think about, they knew that she was going

:15:18. > :15:20.to be strong. Thoroughly dominant, and the points race at the end of

:15:21. > :15:32.the competition, it certainly does not do her any harm either. So, a

:15:33. > :15:36.gold medal for Great Britain, on the final afternoon of these

:15:37. > :15:43.championships, and who knows? Potentially more medals still to

:15:44. > :15:46.come. Go, Trotty, go. That's what it says

:15:47. > :15:49.on her flag. She galloped through that, leaving

:15:50. > :15:56.everyone else in her wake. She's out in front with 201 points, coming

:15:57. > :16:02.into the final race. She picked up 17 points to extend

:16:03. > :16:05.her lead. That was a real battle with Hammer, I'm surprised she could

:16:06. > :16:09.do anything at all after yesterday, but we will hope to have a word with

:16:10. > :16:14.her almost immediately, how she can even have the energy to celebrate.

:16:15. > :16:19.The Trott and Kenny household have three gold medals between them.

:16:20. > :16:22.Here is the double world champion. Huge congratulations, once again

:16:23. > :16:26.you've had the velodrome on their feet, you were able to enjoy the

:16:27. > :16:30.last 40 laps of that? Definitely, they said to me before the start

:16:31. > :16:33.that if I get 20 laps to go with a big enough gap, I can ride around

:16:34. > :16:36.and follow, that is what I tried to do. I tried to get enough points

:16:37. > :16:48.early, I'm so happy. It's only taken four years! It sends out a strong

:16:49. > :16:52.message as far as you are concerned, five months out from Rio? I did this

:16:53. > :16:55.before London, when it was Melbourne, I never expected to win

:16:56. > :17:00.but this time I read it wanted to win. I wanted to pull it off. A

:17:01. > :17:04.wonderful Mother's Day gift, it was lovely to see you with your mum then

:17:05. > :17:09.at the end, what did she say? She's so happy, I said last night, I was

:17:10. > :17:13.gutted about the elimination race. I rode stupidly, I should have taken

:17:14. > :17:20.Sarah to the black line, we saw the time difference in the 500 meter. I

:17:21. > :17:26.text of them last night to say I was gutted, and I could not do it. To

:17:27. > :17:30.poll it off, that is so special. It is your second world title, adding

:17:31. > :17:34.to the bronze in the team pursuit committee could not ask for more, it

:17:35. > :17:39.is a heavy schedule you've set yourself? I added the scratch race

:17:40. > :17:42.in as a bonus, I like to do a bunch race before the Omni in itself, it

:17:43. > :17:47.was a hard-fought race, it was harder than I imagined. But to pull

:17:48. > :17:54.back the bonds for the girls, I was so happy about that. -- the bonds

:17:55. > :18:03.medal. To come back from fifth and pull off that right, it was great

:18:04. > :18:09.for the team, I guess -- to pull that last one off, I'm so happy

:18:10. > :18:13.Jason gave you a wink before the track, he was a little bit unwell,

:18:14. > :18:17.but a brilliant performance from him, your households are doing well

:18:18. > :18:22.at these World Championships? I was so happy for him, you is not won a

:18:23. > :18:25.world title in so long. I could see he was emotional on the podium, it

:18:26. > :18:30.is not like him. He could see how much it meant to him. We could not

:18:31. > :18:33.get lovey-dovey before an elimination race! But you will be

:18:34. > :18:40.cheering him on in the Keirin race? Yes, he can do the double now as

:18:41. > :18:47.well! Thank you. That is the joy of a sporting couple, they can go one

:18:48. > :18:50.challenging each other? Yes, she was in control the whole way through,

:18:51. > :18:53.she admitted she was questioning whether she made the right move in

:18:54. > :18:57.the elimination last night, potentially her confidence was down

:18:58. > :19:02.but she has bounced back. The last 30 or 40 laps she was in control, it

:19:03. > :19:06.was brilliant. A third gold medal for them in their house, the fourth

:19:07. > :19:12.for Great Britain. It would put them above Germany in the medals charts,

:19:13. > :19:17.just those two? We used to get that all the time as well. It is superb,

:19:18. > :19:21.when you are both on form like that, you know what each other are going

:19:22. > :19:24.through. As she said earlier in the week, her and Jason work well

:19:25. > :19:27.together because they understand what is happening and when they're

:19:28. > :19:34.bad day is bad, and when a good day is good. Sarah, let's look at this

:19:35. > :19:37.race, she covered the other two so well, her competitors and

:19:38. > :19:44.challengers. She won a couple of sprints? She was following the right

:19:45. > :19:49.wheels, using other competitors who were desperate for points. This is

:19:50. > :19:54.the first sprint, she took it relatively comfortably. Looking a

:19:55. > :19:59.little frustrated and desperate, but she was coming across the line... I

:20:00. > :20:03.think Sarah Hammer wrote a desperate race, as did Laurie Berthon, towards

:20:04. > :20:08.the end. But Laura Trott had the speed to spare. That 500 metres gave

:20:09. > :20:12.her confidence that she needed, she is so much better than Sarah Hammer.

:20:13. > :20:16.It is lovely to see that she came across the line with daylight. In

:20:17. > :20:21.the final stages of the rays, Laura Trott does not have to get involved,

:20:22. > :20:29.she has the gold medal in the back. -- race. It is a silver medal battle

:20:30. > :20:33.between Laurie Berthon and Sarah Hammer, I feel sorry for Hammer, not

:20:34. > :20:41.doing so well yesterday. She tried her best, it became a game of cat

:20:42. > :20:45.and mouse, there are all these different subplots, Laurie Berthon

:20:46. > :20:49.said great, new go, I will get the gold medal. Is there anyone else who

:20:50. > :20:53.was not in the race who could be a contender in Rio? Or is that the

:20:54. > :20:57.field likely to be in the Olympics? I would say that is the field, but

:20:58. > :21:02.Australian Edmondson, she had a recent accident, on the road she was

:21:03. > :21:05.knocked over by a car, she could potentially be a challenger to

:21:06. > :21:10.Laura. She was a challenger last year. I would say Hammer and the

:21:11. > :21:15.Australian the biggest threats in Rio for Mora. What will Laura do now

:21:16. > :21:22.for the next five months? She will go away -- Laura. She used to have

:21:23. > :21:27.incredibly good time trials, she was not scoring so highly in those bunch

:21:28. > :21:30.races. She's done a lot of video analysis and looked at the other

:21:31. > :21:33.competitors and how she can capitalise on their mistakes will

:21:34. > :21:38.stop she can consolidate and see she has the right approach, the others

:21:39. > :21:41.seem to focus on having one strong event, like Sarah Hammer in the

:21:42. > :21:47.individual pursuit. It is lock on the others. She can take confidence

:21:48. > :21:52.that she is covering six of these omnium events well. Let's reflect on

:21:53. > :21:57.the men's omnium. Mark Cavendish came in in fifth place, he has to

:21:58. > :22:01.get a lot of points to make it onto the podium. He gave it his best shot

:22:02. > :22:07.and wanted to keep the home crowd happy, he won the final sprint. By

:22:08. > :22:11.this time the race was effectively over? Yes, I think it was a good

:22:12. > :22:15.performance from him, but he needed to be on the podium to give the

:22:16. > :22:18.selectors more of a headache. It is going to be a tough choice when it

:22:19. > :22:27.comes to the limbic selection, do they put him in the omnium with 14

:22:28. > :22:30.riders? -- Olympic selection. Cavendish, congratulating the

:22:31. > :22:34.Colombian who won the gold, three of them finished on double points, it

:22:35. > :22:39.came down to their positions in the final sprint, gold went to Colombia.

:22:40. > :22:44.Cavendish is in sixth overall. Jill spoke to him and the technical

:22:45. > :22:50.director Shane Sutton. I wanted to feel that sensation,

:22:51. > :22:57.that will be the same as the Olympic games, it was a 50, to power points

:22:58. > :23:03.race. -- 50 kilometres per hour points race. It will be the same

:23:04. > :23:08.level at the Olympic Games come I wanted to test it. I don't know if I

:23:09. > :23:14.am going. But, I wanted to see where I go along with the best riders.

:23:15. > :23:20.Actually, they've all come off a road programme. My theory was to do

:23:21. > :23:25.that, I had to qualify. I had to go to Hong Kong, Columbia... But

:23:26. > :23:32.actually... It was good to come off of the road, you have that insurance

:23:33. > :23:35.there in the final points. Hopefully, I did enough for

:23:36. > :23:39.selection. I don't know. There was a feeling that perhaps, if you got a

:23:40. > :23:45.medal, it would help his chances of being in the team to go to Rio. The

:23:46. > :23:50.team pursuit has to be the focus as well? Yes, that fifth ride will be

:23:51. > :23:57.part of that ATP, it is a big medal opportunity. Like I said, at the

:23:58. > :24:01.moment emotions are high -- TP. He wrote great sprints out there, but

:24:02. > :24:04.at the end of the day, he did not get the result you wanted. But we

:24:05. > :24:10.aren't discounting him at the moment. The decision is between him,

:24:11. > :24:14.asked, the coaching team. We will sit down and see where we go.

:24:15. > :24:19.Mark Cavendish has a final chance to make it up, not in an Olympic event,

:24:20. > :24:25.he will write later today in the Madison with Sir Bradley Wiggins.

:24:26. > :24:28.Now, we come to the gold medal ceremony for Laura Trott in the

:24:29. > :24:32.omnium. Here it is Simon. She's barely had

:24:33. > :24:39.time to catch her breath before the medals are to be presented here.

:24:40. > :24:43.Sarah Hammer, an eight time world champion. Finishing with the once

:24:44. > :24:54.medal. Edged out by a single point, by the

:24:55. > :24:59.French man Laurie Berthon. -- bronze medal. She was third in Hong Kong

:25:00. > :25:03.this year in the Omni. Sarah Hammer, when she won the elimination race,

:25:04. > :25:07.she was in high spirits, and felt she could really challenge, but it

:25:08. > :25:12.did not happen for her on the second day. Not enough to challenge for the

:25:13. > :25:17.gold medal, but you can be sure that she will be in Rio, not far away.

:25:18. > :25:25.Like Laura Trott, she is very consistent. A silver in 2011, a

:25:26. > :25:28.bronze medal in 2012, gold in 13 and 14, now she has a bronze medal

:25:29. > :25:33.again. Laurie Berthon has previously won

:25:34. > :25:39.several national titles in the omnium and the scratch race, this is

:25:40. > :25:43.her first appearance on the podium in this kind of race.

:25:44. > :25:49.She banked everything on the final sprint, we thought she was waiting

:25:50. > :25:56.to far back, she waited for the race to ease, and she got the opportunity

:25:57. > :26:02.to turn it into a sprint with Sarah Hammer, and she came out on top. She

:26:03. > :26:13.should be used to it by now. So many gold medals, at an Olympic and world

:26:14. > :26:18.level. The roar is for Laura Trott. Champion again, her second rainbow

:26:19. > :26:26.jersey of the week. Seven world title in all. The scratch race gold

:26:27. > :26:33.medal has been added as well, just a few days later, with this gold in

:26:34. > :26:37.the omnium. Her fiance, Jason, trying to keep his composure and

:26:38. > :26:42.concentrate on the Keirin final still to come. Laura Trott is centre

:26:43. > :26:47.stage at the moment. And in fine foetal ahead

:26:48. > :26:56.-- and she is in fine form ahead of Rio.

:26:57. > :27:02.Still the flowers to come, it is the 11th World Championship medal of

:27:03. > :27:09.Laura's career. And she is only 23. It is extraordinary. She is on her

:27:10. > :27:13.way to being, dare I say, certainly challenging for our most successful

:27:14. > :27:18.Olympian ever. She keeps the motivation and the level of

:27:19. > :27:20.performance going. A very special talent indeed. Now, the national

:27:21. > :27:51.anthem. GREAT BRITAIN'S

:27:52. > :28:13.NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS. Laura Trott, really setting the tone

:28:14. > :28:17.for the rest of the British team this week, and the success has

:28:18. > :28:22.continued, there could be more to come.

:28:23. > :28:32.I'm trying to think of the double acts without referring to musicians.

:28:33. > :28:44.And an deck? Nobody can do an impression because they are

:28:45. > :28:50.different. -- Ant and Dec. He is more of a dancer. You can be the fat

:28:51. > :28:54.one? The double act that is Sir Bradley

:28:55. > :28:58.Wiggins and Mark Cavendish. In one hour's time in the Madison.

:28:59. > :29:03.Is that potentially... Am I getting too excited if that is a medal

:29:04. > :29:07.chance? It could be, that it's been a year since they braced together in

:29:08. > :29:11.that way. Potential is there, Bradley is flying, Mark Cavendish

:29:12. > :29:23.has a point to prove. It could happen. Coming up, the final of the

:29:24. > :29:27.gold-medal race, and the bronze. These team-mates are not even

:29:28. > :29:32.looking at each other. Absolutely, it is still a rivalry, it is still a

:29:33. > :29:35.gold medal. You come up against your competitors in national

:29:36. > :29:40.championships. It is a shame to travel across the world and get a

:29:41. > :29:43.national final, for all intents and purposes, but these girls want the

:29:44. > :29:47.gold medal as much as the other. It will be a great battle.

:29:48. > :29:51.We will have a look at the semifinals, they are both very

:29:52. > :29:55.tactical affairs. The Austrian Anna Meares was the

:29:56. > :30:01.sufferer at the hands of Junhong Lane.

:30:02. > :30:06.I don't think Anna rode tactically well. She is normally a master

:30:07. > :30:09.tactician. It reflects her lack of confidence herself, she does not

:30:10. > :30:14.have the power she normally has. I don't decrease in her best, I think

:30:15. > :30:17.she will be back to her best at Rio. -- do not think we have seen. The

:30:18. > :30:36.Chinese athlete had it In the early stages, they were going

:30:37. > :30:44.very close to the inside of the track. Once you get up to speed, you

:30:45. > :30:52.don't want to be touching the flat part of the track because you could

:30:53. > :31:00.crash. Is it slippery? It is just the angle, it is so flat, if you're

:31:01. > :31:11.coming in at 75 K pH, it is just the angle. And you can't come inside?

:31:12. > :31:16.Once the bell has gone, if you enter the sprinter's line, you can't come

:31:17. > :31:25.out. And the person who is not in it, can't come in. We saw a couple

:31:26. > :31:33.of heavy crashes last night. I'll ask you about damage to the track.

:31:34. > :31:38.How about Caroline Ryan? She suffered a broken collarbone. A

:31:39. > :31:45.classic cycling injury. She is in pretty good spirits. She will want

:31:46. > :31:52.to be racing before the Olympic games in five months. The track is

:31:53. > :32:00.smooth but I can see marks on it. If a bike hits it hard it is going to

:32:01. > :32:07.make ends and rip up the wood? We have seen a couple of horrific

:32:08. > :32:13.accidents. Yes, you showed me some that we are not going to see here.

:32:14. > :32:22.We don't want to put people off. If a paddle lifts a board, something

:32:23. > :32:30.soft and fleshy can slide across it and pick it up. It happened to Jason

:32:31. > :32:42.qui lead my team-mate. It can go straight through your muscle. Some

:32:43. > :32:47.of the damage took place. Will they be repairing it overnight and

:32:48. > :32:55.between races? Yes, it will just need a little bit of filler. I have

:32:56. > :33:02.never seen a bike flip like I did yesterday. There are no breaks so if

:33:03. > :33:06.you stop suddenly, you literally somersault over the handlebars. The

:33:07. > :33:11.idea is to relax and four floppy but that is easier said than done. If

:33:12. > :33:19.the track splinters, we saw the Dutch rider crash twice. If you are

:33:20. > :33:25.crashing on top of injuries that you already have, it is just so painful.

:33:26. > :33:29.Jason Kenny was waiting for his final race and you could see the

:33:30. > :33:36.scars all over him from old injuries. I have got a few. It is

:33:37. > :33:38.part of the job. When you are racing day after day and you crash on the

:33:39. > :33:54.first day the worst-case scenario is falling twice

:33:55. > :33:59.on the same spot. All your nerve endings are exposed. It is not

:34:00. > :34:09.pleasant. Apart from that, I don't want to put people off. This track

:34:10. > :34:21.has a good reputation. There must be some that are notorious for being

:34:22. > :34:29.horrid to 41. If you fall on and -- and outdoor track, there is no give

:34:30. > :34:34.and it can be horrible. Wooden tracks might have splinters. There

:34:35. > :34:42.is an element of danger. It is all part of the game. We have a big name

:34:43. > :34:46.bronze medal contest here. Anna Meares against Christina Vogel. Over

:34:47. > :34:57.to the commentators to describe it for you. COMMENTATOR: Varies Anna

:34:58. > :35:04.Meares who was well beaten in her semifinal in the end. Both of the

:35:05. > :35:17.semifinals going to the riders from China in the straight rides. It was

:35:18. > :35:24.a bit of a turnip. -- turn-up. Personally, I would give the nod to

:35:25. > :35:30.Vogel. I have got so many predictions wrong. So many

:35:31. > :35:37.surprises, it is hard to tell. 18 world titles between this pair. Anna

:35:38. > :35:44.Meares hoping for one last hurrah in Rio this summer. She was the great

:35:45. > :35:49.rival of Britain's Victoria Pendleton. Particularly when they

:35:50. > :35:54.raced against each other in the London Olympics four years ago.

:35:55. > :36:01.Victoria Pendleton winning the keirin final. Anna Meares victorious

:36:02. > :36:08.in the sprint final. A two-time Olympic champion Anna Meares. She

:36:09. > :36:16.took gold in Athens in 2004. Vogel from Germany on the front. Starting

:36:17. > :36:22.to pick up the pace with a lap and a half remaining. Anna Meares keeping

:36:23. > :36:29.the height there which gives her some distance. Mears is going

:36:30. > :36:35.further so she is going faster. When she swings down onto the line, it

:36:36. > :36:42.becomes apparent. The door was left open by Vogel and Anna Meares rode

:36:43. > :36:46.straight through. Vogel will have to go on the outside. She has shown

:36:47. > :36:53.great speed here and that was more like it from her. I think Anna

:36:54. > :37:00.Meares was courageous to take the inside line. She got control of the

:37:01. > :37:05.race. She got Vogel close in with three quarters of a lap to go. The

:37:06. > :37:15.German just had far superior acceleration. She had the height as

:37:16. > :37:19.well. Didn't panic. Did most of the overtaking in the back straight. It

:37:20. > :37:25.was already one as they hit the final bend. Anna Meares will be

:37:26. > :37:30.looking for more top end speed over the months as we get towards the

:37:31. > :37:36.Olympic Games in August. She believes there is more to come. She

:37:37. > :37:46.was set back after that training injury. A good win therefore Vogel.

:37:47. > :37:50.She is one race away from claiming the bronze medal. Having won the

:37:51. > :37:57.sprint title over the last couple of years. We are heading for the first

:37:58. > :38:02.gold medal match up. Whatever happens, we will have our first ever

:38:03. > :38:08.women's world sprint champion from China. We see them getting ready in

:38:09. > :38:16.the centre now as we watch these pictures of Anna Meares. Luckily for

:38:17. > :38:19.us, wearing different helmets. Often they were the same skin suits,

:38:20. > :38:45.coloured shoes and gloves as well. Zhong has the white helmet on.

:38:46. > :38:51.Junhong Lin has got the black. We said it was a bit of a surprise that

:38:52. > :38:59.it was an all Chinese final. But it is not as though they are known as

:39:00. > :39:03.track sprinters. Junhong Lin won the bronze medal two years ago. They

:39:04. > :39:09.have been there or thereabouts and on the podium but just not winning

:39:10. > :39:13.the world title itself. One of them will become the world champion.

:39:14. > :39:25.Three laps and it is the best of three final. The sprint is very much

:39:26. > :39:31.where they have shone. Specifically, the women's competitions. It was

:39:32. > :39:36.only a matter of time before they both make the final. After

:39:37. > :39:40.disappointment in the team sprint where they were relegated, what a

:39:41. > :39:47.fantastic way to come back, guaranteeing yourself gold and

:39:48. > :39:52.silver. The nation is going to get gold and silver but for them it is

:39:53. > :40:00.all about individuals. The rider at the front is Zhong. Junhong Lin

:40:01. > :40:05.right behind her. They will know each other so well from constantly

:40:06. > :40:10.training together. It is one of the things that brings on a squad. When

:40:11. > :40:21.training partners are gold medal standard every day. Now very slowly

:40:22. > :40:33.increased pace. It will begin to unfurl shortly as they go into the

:40:34. > :40:38.last lap. Junhong Lin is gaining a little but there is daylight between

:40:39. > :40:45.them. Zhong holds an as they go to the line by half a wheel. The first

:40:46. > :40:59.win goes to Zhong who led from the front. Zhong Tianshi potentially one

:41:00. > :41:09.ride away from being world champion. Even waited down the back straight

:41:10. > :41:13.to try and accelerate but it is a short straight and there is not a

:41:14. > :41:27.lot of room to do anything. She gave herself room. Still not flat stick.

:41:28. > :41:34.Timing it to arrive a little early. Already needed to be at a higher

:41:35. > :41:41.speed. I don't think it is going to be an easy ride. Far from home and

:41:42. > :41:54.hosed. Not much in it between the pair of them. It is Zhong Tianshi

:41:55. > :41:57.who leads in the race for gold. How much is sprinting about the

:41:58. > :42:03.individual and how much about the kit? There is no doubt that the kit

:42:04. > :42:08.makes a difference. Compared that to a steel bike with normal clothing.

:42:09. > :42:14.There would be a huge difference. But at the top level, thousands of a

:42:15. > :42:18.second can make a difference. All we are trying to do is optimise

:42:19. > :42:25.everything. The bikes and Beckett are part of that. If you want to use

:42:26. > :42:33.the hashtag, you can get in touch with us. The Italian women pulled

:42:34. > :42:41.out of 18 pursued due to a puncture. Punches can happen at any time. You

:42:42. > :42:46.cannot change your bike in the back straight. It is a mishap. Sometimes

:42:47. > :42:55.you get a restart if it happens in the first 500 metres. If you are a

:42:56. > :43:01.team of three of the four riders have to finish. It is just one of

:43:02. > :43:12.those things. In the points race, we saw a chap pointing. Pointing

:43:13. > :43:17.because... The umpire is pointing at the head of the race. You get riders

:43:18. > :43:23.lapping the field and it can be difficult to point out the head of

:43:24. > :43:28.the race. It is important because points are available at every

:43:29. > :43:34.sprint. Lots of people said that they saw Laura Trott cycling back to

:43:35. > :43:45.her hotel. They'll do come in on bikes, don't they? We like to cycle

:43:46. > :43:57.back, it is a way to clear your head. A bit of fresh air. Why walk

:43:58. > :44:02.when you can cycle? Why sit when you can lie down? That the cycling

:44:03. > :44:09.mantra. Jason Kenny is coming into the big final. The maxi final as

:44:10. > :44:16.opposed to the mini final. Places one to six. In the line-up, Ed

:44:17. > :44:23.Dawkins from New Zealand has a W by his name. He received a warning in

:44:24. > :44:29.the semifinal for a minor infringement. Not enough to be

:44:30. > :44:38.disqualified but enough if he does it again he will be disqualified. It

:44:39. > :44:43.is a yellow card. If you make a small mistake and get relegated, he

:44:44. > :44:49.will kick himself. He has to be 100% clean. It is an event where there is

:44:50. > :44:54.a lot of barging and bumping. It will be in his mind that he has to

:44:55. > :44:57.be squeaky clean. You have been incredibly strong in your

:44:58. > :45:03.predictions. Jason Kenny's chances in the keirin?

:45:04. > :45:16.My heart says he will win it, my head says leg, he has a history of

:45:17. > :45:24.losing when it counts. In the Keirin, I beat Levy in 2012 and at

:45:25. > :45:28.the Olympics. He is so fast and so capable, but I think that Jason has

:45:29. > :45:32.the magic touch at the moment. If he can have one last big effort, Key

:45:33. > :45:36.knows this is it, no matter what happens. It is not like the Sprint

:45:37. > :45:39.where it is best of three, if he gets it right he is a double world

:45:40. > :45:41.champion and he will be up to this. It has less when you have a gold

:45:42. > :45:58.medal in the bag and you know it is the last event and a home

:45:59. > :46:01.crowd? Without a doubt, Matty Glazer tried to come back in the caring,

:46:02. > :46:03.but he was out in the first round. He has done an incredible job to

:46:04. > :46:06.keep everything crossed, and brought it home. In the final of the men's

:46:07. > :46:09.keirin, a they go. That was a short of Kellermann of

:46:10. > :46:19.the Czech Republic, Sam Webster, 18 sprint gold medallist. -- 18 sprint.

:46:20. > :46:22.We have Francois Pervis in this race, he won the World Championship

:46:23. > :46:24.last year and the year before, he has not made it into the final this

:46:25. > :46:38.time. Here comes the Denny Mike -- the derny bike. Then it is a

:46:39. > :46:53.free for all. This is a gutsy thing to do for a

:46:54. > :46:57.World Championship, wearing that jacket. We will keep an eye as they

:46:58. > :47:01.get underway, Webster leads them. Sam Webster is at the front, the

:47:02. > :47:06.Commonwealth sprint champion, winning the title in Glasgow a

:47:07. > :47:11.couple of years ago, 24 years old. Part of a strong New Zealand track

:47:12. > :47:15.squad. One of the better nations in world track cycling. Across the

:47:16. > :47:19.board in the men's and women's teams. The men's team sprint squad

:47:20. > :47:30.are very impressive, second in the line at the moment is the Russian

:47:31. > :47:34.Shurshin. Francois Pervis has had a disappointing championship so far. A

:47:35. > :47:38.former world champion, it is hard to know how he can become motivated for

:47:39. > :47:41.a minor final when he should be fighting it out for gold medals. He

:47:42. > :47:46.was so dominant the last couple of years, when we went to Cali a couple

:47:47. > :47:52.of years ago, he wonder Keirin, the sprint and the kilo, and last year

:47:53. > :47:55.he won the kilo again and the Keirin, he is a six time world

:47:56. > :48:03.champion but he has not been a factor this time. He has a lot to do

:48:04. > :48:07.before we get to Rio. Speed is higher than earlier. Max is out, as

:48:08. > :48:18.you mentioned in this competition, they have four laps to go. Webster

:48:19. > :48:30.is at the front, Shurshin in second. The man from Azerbaijan in third.

:48:31. > :48:37.Francois Pervis is at the back in the Navy. He is thinking about

:48:38. > :48:44.coming around the outside, everyone is spreading out, there is room to

:48:45. > :48:48.raise, France what purposes at the back, Webster will try to take it

:48:49. > :48:57.all the way, they have two laps to go. -- France while Purvis. Shurshin

:48:58. > :49:02.in second, as Kellermann tries to go around the outside and play himself

:49:03. > :49:07.in the frame. Webster is in the box seat, as Shurshin of Russia tries to

:49:08. > :49:11.take him on, we'll to wheel, elbow to elbow. Shurshin tries to go the

:49:12. > :49:17.long way around against the kiwi, he manages but in the last moment he

:49:18. > :49:24.was put to the line by the rider of Azerbaijan. Perfect timing from him.

:49:25. > :49:38.He takes it on the line, as you can see, by less than half a wheel.

:49:39. > :49:45.Webster did as a substitute derny. France while Purvis never got on in

:49:46. > :49:49.those terms, he did not participate. -- Pervis. As early as the first

:49:50. > :49:56.round, in his initial right committee sat on the back straight

:49:57. > :50:01.and did not contest. -- on the initial straight, he sat at the

:50:02. > :50:04.back. Webster, you could not hold first place, it seemed that Shurshin

:50:05. > :50:10.would get it, but what a burst of pace and a launch from the rider of

:50:11. > :50:18.Azerbaijan, he made an impact at the start of the race on and off the

:50:19. > :50:23.track. Making an impression in the final. That is the man of the match

:50:24. > :50:28.in the sequin jacket. I gather that is not exactly team issue. It is the

:50:29. > :50:41.first track centre, it could catch on! I will ask him where he bought

:50:42. > :50:50.it from. Omelchenko takes it. The first two over the line.

:50:51. > :50:56.Onto the final, Jason Kenny, can he make it two gold medals in these

:50:57. > :51:00.championships? Can he back up that incredible sprint final win against

:51:01. > :51:08.Matty Glazer, does he have one big race left on his legs today, it is a

:51:09. > :51:18.tough one. Eilers is the world kilometre champion. Maximillian

:51:19. > :51:24.Levy, and Wakimoto of Japan. Eddie Dawkins of New Zealand. What a

:51:25. > :51:35.field, and eight laps lay in store here. Awang and Dawkins are good at

:51:36. > :51:41.ducking and diving in this fast paced event, ducking and diving.

:51:42. > :51:45.Levy is the one with power, can he deliver for the first time when it

:51:46. > :51:49.really matters? Kenny has looked fantastic to me throughout the

:51:50. > :51:53.competition. He has ridden strategically, we have not seen him

:51:54. > :52:11.go full tilt, but now is the time to do it. He has two crossed the line

:52:12. > :52:14.first, that is for sure. Here comes the derny, and the World

:52:15. > :52:24.Championship final for 2016 is underway, six riders going for gold.

:52:25. > :52:26.Jason Kenny is in the middle of the field at the moment. Levy is in

:52:27. > :52:45.fourth place for Germany. Wakimoto of Japan is there.

:52:46. > :52:52.Six kilometres before we know who is the world Keirin champion.

:52:53. > :52:59.Dawkins, Jason Kenny, that is levy in the Black socks. Eilers, the

:53:00. > :53:06.world kilometre champion has green socks. They are different physical

:53:07. > :53:12.shapes, Levy on the wheel of Jason Kenny, in the middle of the group.

:53:13. > :53:21.As the laps takeaway and the speed rises, just waiting for a flurry of

:53:22. > :53:27.activity with half a lap to go before the derny pulls away as they

:53:28. > :53:33.josh for a position. Jason Kenny was the world champion in 2013. A silver

:53:34. > :53:38.medallist, Awang, in 2010, the bronze medal last year. Can the

:53:39. > :53:43.rider from Malaysia do better this time around? He is on the wheel of

:53:44. > :53:51.the derny bike, four laps to go halfway. One more lap before the

:53:52. > :53:55.derny pulls off, and already Dawkins is leaving space. Looking through

:53:56. > :54:03.his legs, looking behind at Kenny, Kenny is looking back to see what

:54:04. > :54:06.Levy is doing, Levy is glued to his wheel.

:54:07. > :54:13.They could try to box Kenny. Kenny does not have much room, 2.5 laps to

:54:14. > :54:18.go, Awang in front, Dawkins in black in second.

:54:19. > :54:23.Eilers and Kenny tries to force what motor out of the way. Going around

:54:24. > :54:28.the outside, Jason Kenny is in second place...

:54:29. > :54:31.Can he go round the outside of Dawkins?

:54:32. > :54:38.Up towards the line... One lap left, Jason Kenny, forced out of it.

:54:39. > :54:42.Eilers staying at the front, Dawkins in second place, Awang tries to come

:54:43. > :54:46.through on the inside, so close on the line.

:54:47. > :54:51.I think Eilers is a double world champion. Eilers just on the line.

:54:52. > :54:56.What a close finish. Jason Kenny involved and told one lap left, but

:54:57. > :55:01.look as Eilers crosses the line, Dawkins almost takes him but not

:55:02. > :55:06.quite. Awang, just as one year ago, ends with the bronze medal. What a

:55:07. > :55:10.fantastic race, unfortunately for Jason Kenny, he was boxed right at

:55:11. > :55:16.the start of the sprint, you could not find his way out. It was too far

:55:17. > :55:24.to come around the outside and he knew it. That strength and staying

:55:25. > :55:30.power of Eilers was key. He was able to start sprinting really quickly,

:55:31. > :55:38.he is able to stay with it. Bert Eilers for the second time of the

:55:39. > :55:41.week is a world champion. -- but Eilers.

:55:42. > :55:46.Congratulations to Germany, a race too far for Jason Kenny? Yes, he did

:55:47. > :55:50.not quite have the gas. To be fair to Eilers, it was a controlled ride

:55:51. > :55:55.from the front. It takes a lot to have the strength to keep going for

:55:56. > :56:00.2.5 laps, he strung them out. There was an opportunity. Jason was going

:56:01. > :56:03.backwards, Awang was on the inside, Jason had given up, you knew that

:56:04. > :56:11.nothing was going to go in his favour. But I think he ran out of

:56:12. > :56:15.gas. Awang on the inside, it is a big day for Malaysia. For Awang to

:56:16. > :56:21.win a medal, it is his bird. It is exceptional. It was tight on the

:56:22. > :56:25.line, Dawkins came back strongly. It was a classic final. Given what you

:56:26. > :56:29.were saying about how steep it is on the inside on the light blue, it was

:56:30. > :56:35.incredible control from Eilers? You had to have extreme bike handling

:56:36. > :56:39.skills to win, it is not just strength and power. But he showed he

:56:40. > :56:43.had it in the kilo. This is a big moment for him, he's coming through

:56:44. > :56:54.the ranks, the German squad is very strong, Leavy has been the daddy of

:56:55. > :57:02.the Keirin. Dawkins is flinging his bike at the line, 2000 's of a

:57:03. > :57:06.second. -- Levy. I thought there would be a crash. There was an

:57:07. > :57:11.argy-bargy between him and Dawkins. It is a shame for Jason, the toll it

:57:12. > :57:17.takes on your body, it is not just about being fit, recovery is not a

:57:18. > :57:20.problem, it is the damaged done, repeated sprint efforts, emotionally

:57:21. > :57:25.he would have been drained last night. Trying to sleep after a major

:57:26. > :57:29.championship win is not easy. I think he will look back on this

:57:30. > :57:34.week, he has to be happy. There has to come a point when the body just

:57:35. > :57:39.says, no. Why cannot do it any more. Exactly. -- I cannot do it. There

:57:40. > :57:45.comes to a point, I would do three events and it would be the last day,

:57:46. > :57:49.you can barely get out of bed, your legs are that stuff. It is the home

:57:50. > :57:54.crowd, and the occasion, it can drag you through it. But it was one race

:57:55. > :57:57.too far for Jason. He went for it, one lap out, had he been able to

:57:58. > :58:05.keep it up, you would have been in the shake-out -- he would have been

:58:06. > :58:08.in the shake-up. Eilers was driving, if he was in front fractionally,

:58:09. > :58:14.Jason could have been on the black line in control. Dawkins, Awang on

:58:15. > :58:19.the inside, then Jason had waved a white flag. It was so strong. It is

:58:20. > :58:24.hard to explain how tough it is to hold out for 2.5 laps like Eilers

:58:25. > :58:28.did, that was a cracking time. You had to stay in your shape so much,

:58:29. > :58:32.Sarah, as you get tired it is going to go a bit as well? You can see the

:58:33. > :58:37.form of the riders, everyone has their own style. The form of the

:58:38. > :58:42.German rider, it reminds me of how you used to ride, it had very strong

:58:43. > :58:46.kilo rider, he holds everyone. Absolutely superb performance from

:58:47. > :58:49.him. We are getting a lot of questions from people watching

:58:50. > :58:53.cycling, some for the first time. Tim Norris wants to know, even

:58:54. > :58:58.though Chris was a sprinter, did he or does he still go for long

:58:59. > :59:03.leisurely bike rides, or was it all short burst work? When I was

:59:04. > :59:09.training as an athlete, we would have won- two hours of flat rides,

:59:10. > :59:13.easy gears, spilling the legs, and active recovery. But three or four

:59:14. > :59:20.blocks of the year, we do a week of aerobic conditioning, in Majorca, in

:59:21. > :59:24.the hills. For the big guys, the sprinters, they can do well in the

:59:25. > :59:29.hills, bearing in mind we are not designed for endurance. But now, I

:59:30. > :59:37.love it. The riders love these bikes. On the

:59:38. > :59:41.track, Kristina Vogel 's on the second leg at Hasbro.

:59:42. > :59:44.Taking it convincingly? Yes, we felt coming into the

:59:45. > :59:48.championship that Vogel was the rider to beat, she was the

:59:49. > :59:57.favourite, and probably, the likely winner. It has not proven to be so,

:59:58. > :00:00.we certainly saw her coming back to the kind of form that we were

:00:01. > :00:04.expecting to see in the first ride against Anna Meares. She has her

:00:05. > :00:09.hands for here in trying to stay alive in this bronze medal match. It

:00:10. > :00:22.would have hit her morale hard. She was a convincing winner. Even

:00:23. > :00:44.She made her way around to bankings but it wasn't enough. Kristina

:00:45. > :00:57.Vogel, the world sprint champion for the past two years. Part of a

:00:58. > :01:02.fantastic team sprint duo. We are watching with half a night on the

:01:03. > :01:09.future. Right now it is the World Championships. Kristina Vogel is

:01:10. > :01:14.going to ride from the front. She has decided that she wants to be

:01:15. > :01:21.quite assertive. Anna Meares buzzing around. Kristina Vogel looking to

:01:22. > :01:28.make sure that the bronze medal as hers. Fighting all the way. In the

:01:29. > :01:33.end, well beaten. Kristina Vogel didn't get the colour she was

:01:34. > :01:38.looking for. She will be on the podium. A very worthy winner of the

:01:39. > :01:42.Bronze medal match. It will be interesting to see. We know that

:01:43. > :01:48.Fogel will be up there when the Olympics come around. It will be

:01:49. > :01:51.interesting to see whether Anna Meares can continue to improve and

:01:52. > :01:58.step up after the problems that she has had with injury. She has come

:01:59. > :02:06.back here and acquitted herself well. Not on the podium, her normal

:02:07. > :02:09.position but coming fast. A few months from now she will be on

:02:10. > :02:17.another level again. Now, a real threat. She will head back to

:02:18. > :02:23.Australia with a silver medal from the women's keirin final. It is the

:02:24. > :02:30.sprint crown that has gone for the German. Now we wait for what could

:02:31. > :02:37.be the decisive match up in the all Chinese final. Kristina Vogel enjoys

:02:38. > :02:48.her lap of honour. Victory in straight rides for her. The two

:02:49. > :02:55.riders from China just about to come up onto the track. Vogel could

:02:56. > :03:02.disappear back into the track centre shortly. Junhong Lin has it all to

:03:03. > :03:12.do. In the back home it at the bottom of the track. Zhong Tianshi

:03:13. > :03:17.led all the way in that first heat. It was still close. Not anywhere

:03:18. > :03:22.near as clear-cut as the previous match where there was a big physical

:03:23. > :03:28.difference between the two. We are, a lot more finesse involved. Last

:03:29. > :03:35.chance for the rider with the Black album it. Junhong Lin. Zhong Tianshi

:03:36. > :03:39.already has a silver and bronze in the sprint in last couple of years.

:03:40. > :03:48.Can she come on the set in the next few minutes? Or will it go to a

:03:49. > :03:56.decider as the men's final did. Standard steady start. It is filmed

:03:57. > :04:01.by our cameraman on a Segway, steering with his knees while he

:04:02. > :04:06.carries the camera. Worthy of mention for the level of skill. How

:04:07. > :04:12.grateful he will be that they are going particularly slowly on this

:04:13. > :04:18.lap. Sometimes, they are racing to keep up, even on the opening lap. It

:04:19. > :04:27.helps to keep alongside the athletes. In the white helmet is

:04:28. > :04:33.Zhong Tianshi. She is leading 1-0. If she wins this race, the title is

:04:34. > :04:40.hers. They are obliged for the first half lap to proceed at walking pace.

:04:41. > :04:48.I have never seen written down who's walking pace it is. Certainly going

:04:49. > :04:52.at comfortable Segway pace. They slowly head towards the finishing

:04:53. > :05:01.straight. Three quarters of the way through the first lap of three.

:05:02. > :05:06.These two riders know each other strengths and weaknesses so well.

:05:07. > :05:14.They must ride together all the time. It is the fraction of a second

:05:15. > :05:19.reaction time. It is who deploys them quickly enough that makes all

:05:20. > :05:28.the difference here. There is an element of luck. It is going to be a

:05:29. > :05:35.steady one. Only a lap and a half remaining. The speed at last starts

:05:36. > :05:42.to pick up. They really were creeping around the track. Zhong

:05:43. > :05:51.Tianshi gained the height and forced the speed to increase. Junhong Lin

:05:52. > :05:58.takes it from the front. She has to win this race. Already, she has lost

:05:59. > :06:04.ground to Zhong Tianshi who is going to win the world title here. China's

:06:05. > :06:11.first-ever women's sprint world champion. What a decisive, clear-cut

:06:12. > :06:18.victory it was. In straight rides, in style, gold to Zhong Tianshi. A

:06:19. > :06:28.muted celebration in the centre. They will be deeply pleased. Junhong

:06:29. > :06:32.Lin made a mistake with a lap to go. She got into the right position but

:06:33. > :06:39.can it early enough and allowed herself to be swamped on the back

:06:40. > :06:45.straight. It was all over. That acceleration inside the last three

:06:46. > :06:49.quarters of a lap. Zhong Tianshi totally committed. That is the

:06:50. > :06:54.advantage of being at the back. You get to choose when you accelerate

:06:55. > :07:02.and your competitor might not see it coming. As decisive a victory as you

:07:03. > :07:08.will ever see in a World Championship match. Another rider to

:07:09. > :07:12.keep an eye on in the summer. It is not all about Anna Meares and

:07:13. > :07:18.Kristina Vogel. The world champion going into the Olympics is Zhong

:07:19. > :07:24.Tianshi from China. They will take confidence from that. At last, they

:07:25. > :07:28.have got the reward year and it will give them confidence running into

:07:29. > :07:33.the Olympics. She will be happier than she was the other day when she

:07:34. > :07:39.ended up with a silver medal in the team sprint. Disqualified and ended

:07:40. > :07:44.up losing to Russia. At the end of the championship, the sprint squad

:07:45. > :07:50.are all smiles. Gold and silver in the bag in the women's sprint.

:07:51. > :07:57.Everybody has a flag this year. Have you noticed? Apart from the

:07:58. > :08:02.organisers who have put the flags on the scoreboards rather than have

:08:03. > :08:13.actual flags. Maybe they have stolen the flags. A good reception from the

:08:14. > :08:18.London crowd. In the end, no strong British interest in the women's

:08:19. > :08:25.sprint. We were spoiled for so many years with Victoria Pendleton. And

:08:26. > :08:29.Becky James who followed in her tracks winning the title in Minsk

:08:30. > :08:34.but she has had a couple of years out with injury and is only just

:08:35. > :08:38.beginning to come back now. We will see Becky James competing in this

:08:39. > :08:46.event in the summer. I have every confidence that she will continue to

:08:47. > :08:54.progress in leaps and bounds. You see the coach giving them a hug

:08:55. > :08:59.there. Well done to them. His hand is in plaster after he smashed it on

:09:00. > :09:07.his table after being disqualified. He broke bones in his hand. A former

:09:08. > :09:11.French sprinter who is now coaching the Chinese. The frustration when

:09:12. > :09:19.the athletes don't do what they are supposed to. At least, he is smiling

:09:20. > :09:25.now. Is the Chinese team stronger in the women than the men? Yes. They

:09:26. > :09:29.made a big push for Beijing in the team sprint for the men but they

:09:30. > :09:36.have never really hit the heights. They have one or two guys in the top

:09:37. > :09:44.15 or 20. Let's have another look at that final. It seemed as if what

:09:45. > :09:51.ever Junhong Lin did, Zhong Tianshi had her covered. She knew she had

:09:52. > :09:56.the legs on her. She came passed quite easily in the back straight

:09:57. > :10:00.and had nothing to respond with. There was daylight between them at

:10:01. > :10:07.the finish. Their kit would be identical. There is not much

:10:08. > :10:10.difference between the teams in the kit. And it can work differently

:10:11. > :10:17.with different riders and their shapes. It is not like Formula 1.

:10:18. > :10:24.The equipment is important and it is not the be all and end all. There

:10:25. > :10:32.are 200 checks going on with the bikes. There was a junior riders

:10:33. > :10:37.Mike found at the junior world cyclo-cross riders which had an

:10:38. > :10:42.electric motor hidden inside it. They still haven't got to the bottom

:10:43. > :10:52.of who did it. You can't do it by yourself. The extent to which Linux

:10:53. > :10:58.is involved. I spoke to Chris Boardman about it. He doesn't think

:10:59. > :11:04.it is widespread. If it wasn't serious, it would be hilarious. It

:11:05. > :11:10.seems crazy. What satisfaction would you get from winning a race with an

:11:11. > :11:18.engine? It is referred to as mechanical doping. It could carry a

:11:19. > :11:22.lifetime ban. It is very calculator. It is using something that you know

:11:23. > :11:33.that your comp editors don't have. It will give you more wattage. There

:11:34. > :11:39.is a famous clip of a female cyclist who had this. A Belgian rider

:11:40. > :11:45.through past of one of the best riders in the world on a climb. Then

:11:46. > :11:49.people started to ask questions. It was found that the World

:11:50. > :11:52.Championships a few weeks ago. It is really sad because it is not

:11:53. > :12:00.something you want to have to think about. Simon Brotherton has been

:12:01. > :12:14.really careful not to say, " switches on the turbo" or" using

:12:15. > :12:25.their engine". It is the athletes and not the bikes that win most of

:12:26. > :12:34.the time. Here is Simon to take us through the medals. COMMENTATOR: It

:12:35. > :12:41.was a little bit like watching Chris in the keirin final. Just powering

:12:42. > :12:48.to the front. Saying, if you are going to win this race, you have to

:12:49. > :12:56.get past me. Nine times out of ten they didn't when Chris was riding.

:12:57. > :13:03.Same here. Really fast and with the stamina that comes from a kilo

:13:04. > :13:07.background. The advantage of being at the front, you are expending more

:13:08. > :13:16.power but you get to do it at your own pace. If you can do it, that's

:13:17. > :13:19.why you can perform consistently. The second time Ed Dawkins has got

:13:20. > :13:27.really close in the men's keirin final. Stuck with silver again. Two

:13:28. > :13:35.thousandths of a second. This appears to be the standard gap at

:13:36. > :13:39.this World Championships. The same gap as in the first ride in the

:13:40. > :13:45.final of the men's sprint. For the second time this week the German

:13:46. > :13:52.here is his name called out as world champion. He has backed up his win

:13:53. > :14:03.in the kilometre time trial with a win in the keirin as well. The

:14:04. > :14:10.jersey presented by Brian Cookson. Just about managing to do the zip

:14:11. > :14:19.up, despite the neck muscles. It was a classic keirin final. The rider

:14:20. > :14:33.from Malaysia on the podium for the second time. Awang has a silver and

:14:34. > :14:40.two bronze medals. He brings flamboyance to the event. Leave the

:14:41. > :14:46.slightest gap and he is in it. As Chris said, you expect something to

:14:47. > :14:52.explode when he is around. He is just constantly even that their

:14:53. > :14:56.speed looking for opportunities. If he can't find one, he makes one. And

:14:57. > :15:59.the national anthem of Germany. His second gold of the week, Germany

:16:00. > :16:03.now have three, but they have the same number of medals as Great

:16:04. > :16:10.Britain, a total of eight, Britain tops the medal table by one having

:16:11. > :16:15.got four golds to Germany's three. Eilers, Dawkins and Awang are your

:16:16. > :16:19.podium. STUDIO: Can I ask about the rainbow

:16:20. > :16:25.jersey? How come it is a thing in cycling, what is its background? It

:16:26. > :16:30.is as iconic as the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, you are a world

:16:31. > :16:34.champion, once you've done that, you have the bands, you can put them on

:16:35. > :16:39.the arms of your race kit. Is that only in the races that you have one?

:16:40. > :16:42.Yes, in the events that you are the world champion in. They have

:16:43. > :16:48.regulations and subsequently, in recent years, it is recognised that

:16:49. > :16:51.when you have the pride and honour of wearing the rainbow jersey for

:16:52. > :16:55.the next 12 months and to defend that, hopefully in one year's time,

:16:56. > :17:01.I could be wrong but if you imagine those bands as five individual

:17:02. > :17:05.rings, it is supposed to reflect the five continents, like Olympic rings,

:17:06. > :17:08.but made into bands around your chest and arms. What have you done

:17:09. > :17:13.with your jerseys? The last one I gave to my mum and dad with the

:17:14. > :17:20.medal, it's framed in their home, the rest are in my drawers, it

:17:21. > :17:26.sounds a bit rubbish! You wear them. When? When you are training. Some

:17:27. > :17:30.riders don't like to wear those jerseys when they are the world

:17:31. > :17:35.champion because they feel like there is the pressure of being world

:17:36. > :17:40.champion with the jersey on, and but I love that feeling. It is your

:17:41. > :17:44.chance to wear the jersey through history, look at the fees before you

:17:45. > :17:47.who have won it, it is the same as what I wore all those years ago. It

:17:48. > :17:51.is part of your history, you've made your mark on the sport. It is the

:17:52. > :17:57.five colours of the continents, black is not in the rainbow!

:17:58. > :18:03.Absolutely. It is amazing to have the jersey, I've worn mine every

:18:04. > :18:07.single day for training. Do you? Absolutely, I wore mine this

:18:08. > :18:11.morning, my rainbow shorts. You get the shorts as well? Depending on the

:18:12. > :18:17.team, my team, and part owner in it, we made shorts for me having a

:18:18. > :18:22.rainbow jersey for the time trials on the road. When I am on the road,

:18:23. > :18:26.I wear the rainbow bounds. -- rainbow bands. Do you have rainbow

:18:27. > :18:37.pyjamas crushed and Mark I will get a one C. Jason Kenny is going home

:18:38. > :18:44.with a jersey -- onesie. He spoke to Jill Douglas. You could not make it

:18:45. > :18:50.a two, what happened? You know, I did not have the legs to take it on

:18:51. > :18:55.against all of those fresh guys. I was gambling and trying to get a

:18:56. > :19:01.wheel. I thought I had the winning one, in Eilers, but then I could not

:19:02. > :19:05.get down to the bottom line. I was hung out to dry. You were on the hip

:19:06. > :19:09.of Dawkins at one point, you did not have that firepower. You had a long

:19:10. > :19:14.day yesterday, I know how broken you were after taking that gold medal.

:19:15. > :19:19.It is a big hip to be on, Dawkins. I ran out of legs quick. I expected

:19:20. > :19:22.that, that is why I was trying to get through the race as efficiently

:19:23. > :19:28.as possible. I was pleased when I got to the final. I got there quite

:19:29. > :19:32.efficiently. I tried to write the final as efficiently as possible

:19:33. > :19:36.while still trying to win. -- ride the final. I could not get down to

:19:37. > :19:43.the Black line. I was hung out to dry. Looking at your World

:19:44. > :19:47.Championships, to win the sprint, and getting into the Keirin final,

:19:48. > :19:51.it is a positive way? Getting those results before the weekend, I would

:19:52. > :19:58.have taken them, without question. But for me, and for the whole of the

:19:59. > :20:02.sprinter lads, we are fast enough to be competitive, we can take it to

:20:03. > :20:06.these guys and win titles. It is a positive with five months to go

:20:07. > :20:10.until the one we really want to win. So positive. Looking at the rest of

:20:11. > :20:13.the world, the New Zealanders are always strong. The Germans look

:20:14. > :20:18.strong, the French haven't been at the races this week, have they?

:20:19. > :20:22.There have been a few signs, they have not, the thing is, you can

:20:23. > :20:26.never write them off. They have a lot of depth and strength in

:20:27. > :20:30.numbers. By the Olympics, I'm sure they will be back on top form. Thank

:20:31. > :20:33.you for everything this week, well done.

:20:34. > :20:37.Thank you. Jason Kenny will go home satisfied with his work this week?

:20:38. > :20:41.More than satisfied, he will be delighted. Not only does he have a

:20:42. > :20:44.rainbow jersey but he has the confidence of knowing he has the

:20:45. > :20:49.pace to mix with the top guys in the world. There's more to come. The

:20:50. > :20:53.team sprint, I think that was seen as a failure but in many ways, I

:20:54. > :20:56.think it was a success. They have the fastest man in the world in the

:20:57. > :21:02.first lap, Jason is the fastest man in the world in the second lap when

:21:03. > :21:06.he is right. Callum skimmer Michael Cole Skinner or Lewis Oliver, he

:21:07. > :21:10.will be the next two finish it off. -- Karen Skinner or

:21:11. > :21:15.. The tennis is over running on BBC

:21:16. > :21:19.One, eight crucial point in the Davis Cup match between Great

:21:20. > :21:24.Britain and Japan. At 4:30pm, we will hand over to Sue Barker here on

:21:25. > :21:28.the tennis, the cycling will switch to the red button. We are already

:21:29. > :21:31.there, if you want to carry on with the cycling, you won't miss anything

:21:32. > :21:35.at all. There is a delay.

:21:36. > :21:40.You can go now. It gives us the chance to answer your questions,

:21:41. > :21:45.this is about the derny bike, you can see in the Keirin, the driver is

:21:46. > :21:49.on the bike, he has a black helmet, it looks like, call work, how do you

:21:50. > :21:57.get that job and why does he never smile?

:21:58. > :22:03.It is a very serious job. You have to take it incrementally and make

:22:04. > :22:08.sure you deliver the riders take regulations beat. It's an important

:22:09. > :22:15.job but I have no idea how he gets that job. I've no idea, I think

:22:16. > :22:22.historically, each velodrome has a group of Denny riders who are

:22:23. > :22:30.experienced. I think it comes -- derny.

:22:31. > :22:35.It is down to who get the job -- who gets the job and sticks with it. A

:22:36. > :22:40.lot of cheering for this iconic pairing of Bradley Wiggins and Mark

:22:41. > :22:46.Cavendish, teaming up together in the Madison. 200 laps in this, 16

:22:47. > :22:54.pairs, in an ideal world, do you power and endurance rider with one

:22:55. > :22:59.that can sprint? -- pair. You dear, Bradley Wiggins traditionally can

:23:00. > :23:03.sprint but Mark Cavendish is the one that you would throw in.

:23:04. > :23:08.This is the finale event, it will take about one hour, you can see all

:23:09. > :23:13.of that on the red button. They are very different in

:23:14. > :23:17.character. The rest of the team refers to Bradley Wiggins as the

:23:18. > :23:21.boss, he has become a leader, do you think he always has been the leader?

:23:22. > :23:26.I think he's an individual who leads from the front. I think he has

:23:27. > :23:29.become a leader because of his actions and performances, and his

:23:30. > :23:33.results. It is not only personality but how you lead from the front.

:23:34. > :23:38.That is what good team leaders do. Looking at the line-up for the

:23:39. > :23:43.Madison, who are the teams to beat? It is very hard to call. It could be

:23:44. > :23:48.a copout but there are seven or eight who could win. So much can go

:23:49. > :23:53.right or wrong in the race, crashes happen. You put your money on at

:23:54. > :23:57.least one crash in this. It is chaos, amazing to watch. As an

:23:58. > :24:01.athlete or a rider, it is not bad to win the race but from the outside

:24:02. > :24:05.looking in, bodies are everywhere. One rider in the team is racing at

:24:06. > :24:10.all times, the other recovers, they change over with a hand sling, you

:24:11. > :24:14.can transfer energy so they don't slow down on the change. It is

:24:15. > :24:18.essentially a points race for teams of two. We were talking to Victoria

:24:19. > :24:22.Pendleton earlier, she said how exciting it feels, the hand sling.

:24:23. > :24:26.You get powered forward. People use it in training at the end of

:24:27. > :24:38.sessions, doing practice. Some of my team-mates use it on the road. I'm

:24:39. > :24:41.yet to be slung in, I can't hold onto the bars on the other side, I

:24:42. > :24:44.would fall off. When it is done properly and welcome it is poetry in

:24:45. > :24:49.motion. This race will start slowly. The tennis is coming over onto BBC

:24:50. > :24:51.Two, if you want to watch it in its completion, you can on the red

:24:52. > :24:56.button. You can do that now. Emily, aged

:24:57. > :25:00.nine, she wants to know what it is like standing on the gold medal

:25:01. > :25:07.podium? Do you know what? It is pretty good. There is nothing like

:25:08. > :25:14.it. I miss it. When you see with the home riders stepping on the podium,

:25:15. > :25:17.receiving the gold medal, it is all worthwhile. You remember all of the

:25:18. > :25:21.tough times, all of those ups and downs, when you are up against the

:25:22. > :25:24.best in the world, nothing like it. That is the feeling that Mark

:25:25. > :25:30.Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins are heading forth. Here comes the

:25:31. > :25:34.Madison. -- heading for. COMMENTATOR: A final swig of drink

:25:35. > :25:40.for Mark Cavendish, reunited on track with Bradley Wiggins. World

:25:41. > :25:44.champions in 2008, they did not have their way in Beijing in the Olympic

:25:45. > :25:49.Games. So Bradley Wiggins is there ready to go. They have the pedigree

:25:50. > :25:54.and we all know they have the ability. They have an incredibly

:25:55. > :25:58.tough opposition to overcome, they are marked men in a race like this.

:25:59. > :26:04.There are wonderful bike riders to look out for, defending world

:26:05. > :26:08.champions, France. European champions from Spain. Belgium, they

:26:09. > :26:14.won the bronze medal a year ago. Columbia, one of their riders from

:26:15. > :26:18.the Omnium points race, he successfully defended that world

:26:19. > :26:23.title, he is racing with Jordan Para, they are former world junior

:26:24. > :26:36.champions. Look out for Columbia, they are all in white.

:26:37. > :26:43.Christian will explain how this race works. Are you sitting come to be?

:26:44. > :26:51.Tag team wrestling is often one of the similes that is drawn in this

:26:52. > :26:56.event. They must touch each other to change team members in this race.

:26:57. > :27:01.They ride at the top of the track at a slower speed, waiting for others

:27:02. > :27:04.to catch up. Normally there will be a hand sling, they grab their hands

:27:05. > :27:09.and transfer energy from one rider to the other. The French pairing are

:27:10. > :27:20.on the attack now. If they gain a lap in this race, they are one up

:27:21. > :27:23.ahead. It trumps every thing else. It does not matter how any points

:27:24. > :27:36.you have, if you are one up ahead, you are in the lead. That is what

:27:37. > :27:39.France are trying to do now. The world scratch race champion from a

:27:40. > :27:44.few years ago, a two-time Madison world champion, France are on the

:27:45. > :27:47.front foot, being asserted at the start of this race. Great Britain,

:27:48. > :27:51.three quarters of the way back through the field at the moment. A

:27:52. > :28:00.long way to go, this race will last for one hour, an early lap to put

:28:01. > :28:08.themselves in pole position. So Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish

:28:09. > :28:10.are racing. If you want to continue to follow

:28:11. > :28:17.the Madison, we are going to the red button.

:28:18. > :28:21.Now, we are going over to the Davis Cup.

:28:22. > :28:25.We are leaving BBC One but welcoming queue was on BBC Two to this cup tie

:28:26. > :28:26.between Great Britain and
