:00:14. > :00:41.Good evening. Welcome to Queen Elizabeth Park from the Lee Valley

:00:42. > :00:46.velodrome, glowing in the evening light. World selling tickets, every

:00:47. > :00:51.evening is a sell-out. Tonight part of that is due to this man, Sir

:00:52. > :00:57.Wiggins which. We will see him in the final of the men's team pursuit.

:00:58. > :00:58.It relies on combined power, technical skill, understanding and

:00:59. > :01:06.mutual respect. One word... In one word... Ummm... I

:01:07. > :01:26.would say... I can't do one word! Ed is a freak of nature. Ed Clancy -

:01:27. > :01:33.ginger. He's the funny guy of the team.

:01:34. > :01:37.Phenomenal! Owain Doull, rugby-mad.

:01:38. > :01:42.Reckless! Full of potential on the track as well as the road.

:01:43. > :01:51.Andy Tennant - steady. And consistent. Always professional. He

:01:52. > :01:58.will give it his best. Steven Burke, massive United fan.

:01:59. > :02:00.Football mad. Solid. One of the most underrating rise riders on the

:02:01. > :02:07.planet. Jon Dibben. Young lad on the team.

:02:08. > :02:12.Keen, enthusiastic. Jon Dibben - under the thumb. The calm guy of the

:02:13. > :02:17.team. The most talented person ever, also the laziest!

:02:18. > :02:20.Bradley Wiggins - knight Rider, been there, done that. A great asset to

:02:21. > :02:32.the team. A role model. A character. The boss. Wiggins - impressionist. I

:02:33. > :02:38.will get them for nothing. So happy. He was like, "cheers, lad." I am so

:02:39. > :02:39.made one these, we have to buy these ourselves.

:02:40. > :02:46.It will come back on me! And that will be the highlight of

:02:47. > :02:51.our coverage tonight as we show you the best of the live action from the

:02:52. > :02:57.velodrome, which is rocking with enthusiastic cycling fans. Already

:02:58. > :03:03.they have been cheering as Wiggins, Steven Burke Beat Italy this

:03:04. > :03:09.afternoon to win a shot at gold. Laura Trott races in the women's

:03:10. > :03:13.scratch, over 10kms. On the come-back trail, Becky James won to

:03:14. > :03:20.make it into the second round of the ker rip. If she finishes in the top

:03:21. > :03:25.three, she will go into the final. News on the line-up - Ed Clancy, who

:03:26. > :03:32.has had a bad back injury and an operation is back in there with Jon

:03:33. > :03:38.Dibben and Doull as well. Delighted to say, Britain's most successful

:03:39. > :03:46.Paralympic and Olympic cyclists will be with me this evening to bring me

:03:47. > :03:49.their wisdom. Three years ago at the World Track Championships, Becky was

:03:50. > :03:54.the star of the show with two world medals. She suffered injury and

:03:55. > :03:55.illness problems. She's on the track, literally, coming back and

:03:56. > :04:07.hoping for a place in Rio. I was pretty low. I had amazing

:04:08. > :04:11.support. All of British cycling were telling me they always believe in

:04:12. > :04:15.me. It was not an enjoyable experience and I hope never to go

:04:16. > :04:20.through it again. All I have ever known is riding my bike. I could not

:04:21. > :04:24.imagine not doing it. That gave me the determination. It has been like

:04:25. > :04:29.a new beginning to me. I feel like I am a different bike rider now. I am

:04:30. > :04:33.trying to see myself not what I was before, and a new Becky now and

:04:34. > :04:36.hopefully moving forward to be better than I was before.

:04:37. > :04:47.THE COMMENTATOR: It is all or nothing. Becky James is the champion

:04:48. > :04:52.of the world. It has been a long time, so I am excited to be back.

:04:53. > :04:56.THE COMMENTATOR: Becky James with a chance to be a double world

:04:57. > :05:01.champion. She's done it. Double world champion. I am loving every

:05:02. > :05:05.training session. Every time I am racing I am loving it more than ever

:05:06. > :05:09.before. That is the appreciation from being injured. My determination

:05:10. > :05:12.to get to Rio is unbelievable. To be able to go to an Olympics, like

:05:13. > :05:16.that's the one thing I have not done. Missing out on London was

:05:17. > :05:21.pretty hard. Now I have become a world champion. I have had medals,

:05:22. > :05:28.to go to the Olympics is the pinnacle. That is what I want to do.

:05:29. > :05:32.And this is the big test. Becky won and she'll be in the second of the

:05:33. > :05:37.two semi-finals you are about to see.

:05:38. > :05:42.To explain the Keirin and take us through the riders. They are ready

:05:43. > :05:46.to go in what is the first semi-final in the women's Keirin. It

:05:47. > :05:50.is the semi-final. Eight laps of the track. Little motorbike leads them

:05:51. > :05:56.around. Until two-and-a-half laps from the end. It peels off from the

:05:57. > :06:00.inside of the track, then Chris, a few for all -- free-for-all to the

:06:01. > :06:04.line. It could be a difficult heat this as well, if we move to tactics.

:06:05. > :06:08.Three Australians in this. It will be interesting to see if they use

:06:09. > :06:12.that strength in numbers to ensure they have somebody in the final.

:06:13. > :06:16.Will they contest the race for themselves and get on with it? It

:06:17. > :06:20.looks like you have an advantage with so many team-mates in the same

:06:21. > :06:27.heat. You can get in each other's way. It will be interesting. Here is

:06:28. > :06:34.the dern yea. They must stay -- derny. They must stay behind it. No

:06:35. > :06:43.riders can overlap the derny, or they will be disqualified and they

:06:44. > :06:49.must stay within ten metres of it. The three Australians, the defending

:06:50. > :06:57.champion, Mears an 11-time world champion. Wearing the green helmet

:06:58. > :07:06.tonight. 1. . The last of the three Australians

:07:07. > :07:11.on the track at this moment in time. Stephanie, a gold finalists in the

:07:12. > :07:20.2012 Games and a two-time Commonwealth champion.

:07:21. > :07:24.In the front the Ukrainian. We have the Korean and also from France in

:07:25. > :07:27.this field T first of the two semi-finals in the women's Keirin.

:07:28. > :07:39.Here is Mears. It is a difficult one. I think you

:07:40. > :07:48.will need to split this threesome up.

:07:49. > :07:59.Still on wheel of the bike the Ukrainian.

:08:00. > :08:03.McCulloch, Morton, bringing up the rear in the they stri blue at the

:08:04. > :08:09.moment. Another lap or so before they start to move about and try and

:08:10. > :08:13.change position before the derny swings out. They will leave a gap,

:08:14. > :08:18.as much as they dare. They cannot be more than 10 metres away to

:08:19. > :08:21.accelerate. We are riding the derny-cam there

:08:22. > :08:34.for a moment or two. Four laps to go and the riders will

:08:35. > :08:38.start to look around now. They will start to assess who is

:08:39. > :08:42.where. Leaving themselves some gaps and

:08:43. > :08:48.room to manoeuvre. They will be able to accelerate.

:08:49. > :08:50.McCulloch starts to make a move T derny will go off the track.

:08:51. > :09:10.Two-and-a-half laps to go. Anna Meares in third place.

:09:11. > :09:13.The Ukrainian leads the way. Going towards the front.

:09:14. > :09:19.I think the French woman caught them napping there and got pole position.

:09:20. > :09:22.The Australians have got strength in numbers and have a long way to go.

:09:23. > :09:28.They are starting the charge. They have a long way to go around.

:09:29. > :09:35.Here comes Anna Meares, the defending champion and Meares gets

:09:36. > :09:40.it on the line. She timed it to perfection. She had to dig fairly

:09:41. > :09:46.deep there. One of the great champions in world cycling came up

:09:47. > :09:49.trumps and here is the photo finish again, as Anna Meares takes it on

:09:50. > :09:52.the line. Anna Meares, first over the line.

:09:53. > :10:02.Basova. Jing was right up there.

:10:03. > :10:05.She was swamped at the last, I think.

:10:06. > :10:09.Pushed down into forth position. Anna Meares, that is experience for

:10:10. > :10:15.you. Watching here, not panicking at all. Making sure she's got room to

:10:16. > :10:19.race. Going around the long way. Sheltered, waiting and waiting,

:10:20. > :10:23.using the dip in the banking. Coming to the home straight, rolls forward.

:10:24. > :10:25.The Australian who made the final last year was never a factor in this

:10:26. > :10:30.race at all. In the centre of your picture,

:10:31. > :10:43.taking second on the line. Australia, Ukraine and Korea have

:10:44. > :10:47.riders going through to the final. There is the confirmation.

:10:48. > :10:55.They will go through to the minor final.

:10:56. > :11:02.I know James is only 24 years of age, but she's had a couple of

:11:03. > :11:07.difficult years since winning back in Minsk in 2013. It is amazing to

:11:08. > :11:11.see her at this level of raising and to get through into this semi-final.

:11:12. > :11:17.It is a tough heat she's got, that is for sure. All of it, it is a

:11:18. > :11:23.steep upwards curve for her though. She doesn't really look like she's

:11:24. > :11:28.been away. Tactically, really good in the previous round to get into

:11:29. > :11:33.this semi. And there Anna Meares, highlighted

:11:34. > :11:37.as they came up to the line. The hurly burley of Keirin racing.

:11:38. > :11:41.Anna Meares, we have said it so many times, but what a rider she's been.

:11:42. > :11:46.She had a great rivalry with Victoria Pendleton over many, many

:11:47. > :11:50.years. An 11-time world champion. Won 25 medals in the World

:11:51. > :11:55.Championships over the years. This, I imagine will be the last time we

:11:56. > :11:59.see her racing in London. We keep saying it. She did take time out. It

:12:00. > :12:04.looked like she would retire for good. I think that gap, that space

:12:05. > :12:07.allowed her to assess whether she really wanted to do this. She

:12:08. > :12:12.decided she would come back with a different mind set. She can enjoy

:12:13. > :12:14.everything she does know is a bonus. That could be very liberating to go

:12:15. > :12:38.into racing with that open mind set. Now Becky James up against Guo from

:12:39. > :12:43.China. Who was the world champion in 2009. There is welcome di James, a

:12:44. > :12:53.double world champion in Minsk. Another Chinese rider in this race.

:12:54. > :12:58.The silver medallist in the individual sprint last year is in it

:12:59. > :13:02.as well. Lee, from Hong Kong, on this track

:13:03. > :13:10.in 2012. She crashed heavily in the first round. Hopefully she's OK and

:13:11. > :13:15.the big danger Vogel from Germany, a six-time world champion. I think

:13:16. > :13:18.people should be amazed there's not more crashing in this event. There

:13:19. > :13:22.is so much speed and a lot of riders in a very small space. It shows the

:13:23. > :13:26.skill that we don't see more incidents than we do.

:13:27. > :13:31.James is going to take that first position.

:13:32. > :13:38.She decided she wants to get into control first. It is like the two

:13:39. > :13:43.Chinese rider are apart. One has the red helmet on.

:13:44. > :13:51.A talented Dutch rider. Vogel in the white and black of

:13:52. > :13:57.Germany and Lee from Hong Kong bringing up the rear at the moment.

:13:58. > :14:03.Becky James had to get into this the hard way. What a broad grin on her

:14:04. > :14:07.face when she assured herself she would be continuing in the

:14:08. > :14:11.competition and an afternoon session will go into the evening one. We saw

:14:12. > :14:15.her interviewed at the start of the show tonight. She was really

:14:16. > :14:25.content, enjoying her racing. Just glad to be back at the moment. Just

:14:26. > :14:29.enjoying being on the bushd. The -- board. This is a rider we don't

:14:30. > :14:34.anticipate is at the top of her form. A rider who is working her way

:14:35. > :14:39.back. She will be disappointed about the team sprint result, of course.

:14:40. > :14:44.She probably would have got a slot there. If she had carried on with

:14:45. > :14:47.this level of progression. It is not open to her now. It is all in for

:14:48. > :14:54.this event and the individual sprint.

:14:55. > :14:57.So the pace gradually increasing. We will get the camera shots from

:14:58. > :15:14.the back. Becky James on the front. Right

:15:15. > :15:21.behind her is Schwenk. Lynn is in third place. Ligtlee fourth.

:15:22. > :15:28.Bringing up the rear, Christine Vogel. The motorbike will disappear

:15:29. > :15:31.in half a lap from now. Becky James is going to try and let one person

:15:32. > :15:35.around, so she has a wheel to gum up. It is a difficult one to

:15:36. > :15:41.control. At the moment, she's decided that she is going to take

:15:42. > :15:45.this one from the front. She keeps control, but she is swamped out.

:15:46. > :15:55.Still in good shape. Has she got the acceleration? Vogel at Alli and

:15:56. > :15:59.Ligtlee are fighting it out. Those two won gold and silver. Becky James

:16:00. > :16:08.boxed in on the inside at the moment. Jong funding goes in. Shueng

:16:09. > :16:12.going, but on the inside it is Christina Vogel. Becky James is

:16:13. > :16:24.fighting hard. And Becky James has qualified for the final! Vogel, Lee

:16:25. > :16:28.and Ligtlee gave it all. Christina Vogel really quick on the final lap,

:16:29. > :16:36.but Becky James, who looked as though she might have been boxed in,

:16:37. > :16:39.found a way through. She was riding to qualify. There was no intention

:16:40. > :16:43.to get off the wheel. She was monitoring what was going on around.

:16:44. > :16:51.She found herself with a quarter of a lap to go, boxed in. She did

:16:52. > :16:56.enough to qualify. That is what she did. You have to be in it to win it.

:16:57. > :17:00.Anything can happen having made it to the world final. Becky James was

:17:01. > :17:05.the world champion in this discipline in 2013. I wonder what

:17:06. > :17:12.chance he has tonight. I think a medal is definitely on the cards

:17:13. > :17:16.here. That was a courageous ride, at Welling over 60, it is per hour. She

:17:17. > :17:22.found herself space to ease through. She did not panic at all. The

:17:23. > :17:29.experience she has got in the bank. The champ in a few years ago, back

:17:30. > :17:35.in 2009, Christina Vogel in 2010. Safety through. She is joined in

:17:36. > :17:39.that race were gold. Becky James has qualified.

:17:40. > :17:48.And she will have just after half an hour to recover for that final,

:17:49. > :17:53.coming up at 7:45pm. Sarah Storey, that is a fantastic performance.

:17:54. > :17:59.Becky will be able to draw on all of her experience. She did not really

:18:00. > :18:03.hit the wind, and she just found the gap in the final three. It was the

:18:04. > :18:08.perfect way to qualify. It is going to be incredibly tactical. It is. It

:18:09. > :18:11.is hard to pick the winner. That was a tough semifinal. I thought that

:18:12. > :18:16.was going to be a final line-up. That was final standard. Becky to

:18:17. > :18:20.get through, I was not expecting that. She has done incredibly well

:18:21. > :18:23.with the lack of time she had coming back from injury. It is going to be

:18:24. > :18:27.a tough final to choose from, but Becky is in there with a shout. As

:18:28. > :18:33.Chris Boardman is mentioning in commentary, great to have Becky back

:18:34. > :18:37.but not in enough time to qualify for the Olympics. Kate and that

:18:38. > :18:42.Katie Marchand, we were criticised desperate critical of the elongated

:18:43. > :18:47.qualification process. A long story short, it was not just about the

:18:48. > :18:50.position yesterday, guarantee qualification for Rio. They had to

:18:51. > :18:53.get a number of points in conjunction with these points to get

:18:54. > :18:56.qualification. They were fifth, which is great, but they did not

:18:57. > :19:00.have enough points leading up to the games. They were emotional, they

:19:01. > :19:04.came off the track, but they said a few things which they will look back

:19:05. > :19:08.on and regret that they said. But there is frustration, and you want

:19:09. > :19:14.to shout and scream, and it is natural. But it is a pity for them.

:19:15. > :19:17.They are to come into form. This places the best they have had for a

:19:18. > :19:22.while. They do not want the frustration to seep into other areas

:19:23. > :19:25.of the team. Let's talk about the team pursuit. We were part of this

:19:26. > :19:36.team until the end of 2011. Historically, it isn't -- it is an

:19:37. > :19:40.extremely strong event for us. They have won six out of eight modem

:19:41. > :19:44.chips. But what happened this afternoon? This morning, in

:19:45. > :19:48.qualification, the team ended up in fear after all the teams had run.

:19:49. > :19:52.You write in your own qualification rides. Coming up into the final

:19:53. > :20:00.calamity, the team broke up, so we had to riders, Elinor Barker, and

:20:01. > :20:08.you can see that she had been gapped, and join arousal had been

:20:09. > :20:14.chance to browse that clap. So Eleanor will cross the line at a

:20:15. > :20:21.roundabout four minutes and 18 seconds, by the time the third rider

:20:22. > :20:26.came across it was four minutes 21. It was a tactical mess up? It is

:20:27. > :20:31.possible that the team started too hard. What they will do, they will

:20:32. > :20:34.go away, they will look at the pacing, they would look at where the

:20:35. > :20:38.energy was spread around the team. They will look at which part caused

:20:39. > :20:42.the breakdown. Those teams have been training together for a number of

:20:43. > :20:45.weeks and years, they know each other incredibly well. They will

:20:46. > :20:49.look at all the evidence and the details that right, and where Napoli

:20:50. > :20:56.work out where the problem is. They will fight for the bronze medal at

:20:57. > :21:02.best. After that qualification, Jill Douglas caught up with Ian Dyer.

:21:03. > :21:07.That was not the most polished performance. Bitterly disappointing

:21:08. > :21:11.for the girls. The girls are disappointed. There is no dressing

:21:12. > :21:19.it up. We win the races and we split up, but we were not at cohesive,

:21:20. > :21:24.tight enough unit. Why? I think we were a little bit boom and bust. We

:21:25. > :21:29.had some we collapse, and when you start on a cycle like that, it is

:21:30. > :21:34.hard to find consistency and keep the right solid and under control.

:21:35. > :21:39.The team pursuit is the one thing the British have always excelled at.

:21:40. > :21:47.The ways that we have trained, we have well oiled machine. What has

:21:48. > :21:49.broken? We had one of our strongest riders on the sidelines following

:21:50. > :21:56.injury. That puts us on the back foot a little bit. But that was a

:21:57. > :22:00.long-term situation, and the riders have tried very hard to work a way

:22:01. > :22:05.around that, and produced the best performance that we can. As I said,

:22:06. > :22:11.naturally, that is not the way that we wanted to turn out to date. I

:22:12. > :22:14.can't remember seeing as fractious a performance by British pursuit team

:22:15. > :22:17.in recent years. I would have to agree with that. The evidence is

:22:18. > :22:21.there for all to see. It is a disappointing result, and not what

:22:22. > :22:25.we were looking for. Our training performances were strong, and

:22:26. > :22:28.naturally, America has set a really good time early on, they set the

:22:29. > :22:31.tone of the race, and they knew where the race was at. That is what

:22:32. > :22:38.we were endeavouring to match. They have to get back on the bike now.

:22:39. > :22:42.Can they get a medal? Yes, they can hit the medals, still. The top two

:22:43. > :22:48.seeded teams out of heats one and two will go still to the ride off,

:22:49. > :22:53.but the other teams get right foot bronze. When you have to turn our

:22:54. > :22:56.thoughts to that, and we would do a little bit of number crunching and

:22:57. > :23:01.analysis tonight, and the performance support team can look at

:23:02. > :23:05.this -- personnel changes. We have to come out fighting, and show

:23:06. > :23:09.everyone what we are capable of and turn it around. Let's not forget

:23:10. > :23:13.that Laura is back in action in the scratch race tonight. There is still

:23:14. > :23:19.plenty going on there. But it would be really nice to turn this around

:23:20. > :23:23.and show everyone what we can do. As Ian says, Laura is back in action.

:23:24. > :23:28.She is part of this line-up. They will have to bounce back from

:23:29. > :23:33.disappointment. Sarah Storey, she is capable of doing that. Absolutely.

:23:34. > :23:37.She will have to do it in the Omni. There are six events, and all of

:23:38. > :23:46.those events -- not all of those events are going to go well. She has

:23:47. > :23:51.the expressed in her backpack. -- experience. It is a mass start. It

:23:52. > :23:57.is 40 laps of the track. Think limiters. How do you work that out

:23:58. > :24:02.in your head? You have a game plan in your head. Moves will happen.

:24:03. > :24:08.There will be breaks in the bunch. It could come together for a sprint

:24:09. > :24:13.at the end. Laura is lucky. She has different tactics and different

:24:14. > :24:16.strengths. She is not a one trick pony. I think she could win this. I

:24:17. > :24:21.think she will be determined to bounce back in the team pursuit. If

:24:22. > :24:25.she can beat up there in the top four or five with two laps to go, I

:24:26. > :24:29.would not bet against her. She is going to get a huge amount of

:24:30. > :24:33.support from this crowd. Let's join the commentary.

:24:34. > :24:41.COMMENTATOR: They are just rolling round to make sure everything at up

:24:42. > :24:47.and running. 40 laps, ten kilometres. Apart from Laura Trott,

:24:48. > :24:58.the defending champion from the Netherlands is here. The cheque

:24:59. > :25:05.writer, the former world champion. There she is. Just a few of the

:25:06. > :25:09.names in this 20 rider field here in the women's scratch race. No points

:25:10. > :25:14.to worry about. It is a straightforward first across the

:25:15. > :25:18.line event. Everyone is waiting for someone to throw the first met could

:25:19. > :25:23.-- metaphorical punch. I would agree with what Chris was saying just now

:25:24. > :25:29.that I think Laura will be looking for something hip tactically. She is

:25:30. > :25:38.one of the smartest riders I have ever seen, male or female. She

:25:39. > :25:42.really knows how to handle bike. It can work in a sprint or a breakaway.

:25:43. > :25:47.She will be smarting from the performance earlier today. She will

:25:48. > :25:52.want to do something about that. This is a great way to vent your

:25:53. > :25:59.frustrations. When Laura Trott is smarting, it is bad news for the

:26:00. > :26:08.opposition. I am really surprised. Six disciplines, and the Omni, she

:26:09. > :26:16.has a long -- in the Omni. She has a long weekend. The form was certainly

:26:17. > :26:22.there. There is the Belgian rider on the front. Laura Trott taking a

:26:23. > :26:30.little turn. The race yet to ignite and take to life. The Mexican rider

:26:31. > :26:40.in net, and Salazar in the green and white. There is our first tentative

:26:41. > :26:48.look at the front here. It looks at the Japanese rider. It is just

:26:49. > :26:55.opening a little gap here. It is a little bit slow motion at the

:26:56. > :26:59.moment. Three have fallen behind. Sierra from Cuba involved in a three

:27:00. > :27:07.rider chase of sorts down that back straight. The right move would be to

:27:08. > :27:12.swing off the shoulder, get in with this group and see if you can whip

:27:13. > :27:16.up the pace. They have about 50 metres at the moment. The main group

:27:17. > :27:24.not panicking. The pace is moving up. The Belarussian rider in there.

:27:25. > :27:35.Salazar from Mexico and the rider from Cuba, and Sierra, who has shown

:27:36. > :27:39.good form. It has suddenly got quite dangerous. They have got their act

:27:40. > :27:46.together. They have the best part of half a lap. The danger has been

:27:47. > :27:52.spotted, and they have half a lap. They have quite a bit of rope.

:27:53. > :27:56.Someone else will have to take up the work. Surely, the big hitters

:27:57. > :28:01.realise that they need to work together to close this gap. At 40

:28:02. > :28:05.lap race, it may sound like a lot, but it goes very quickly. They will

:28:06. > :28:11.run it fast, and you really feel every lap of it. A lot of damage.

:28:12. > :28:16.These four are committed. They are just about holding their own. It

:28:17. > :28:23.probably won't succeed, but it has to be taken seriously. We saw a good

:28:24. > :28:28.turn from the Spanish, and Kerstin Wield briefly on the front for

:28:29. > :28:33.Belgian. Laura Trott has briefly come up. She is happy to sit and

:28:34. > :28:40.watch this one play out. We have reached a point where the riders are

:28:41. > :28:46.no longer gaining ground. The Czech rider leading the chase. Road from

:28:47. > :28:52.Canada, the Italian rider as well. Laura Trott briefly on the front.

:28:53. > :28:58.They are losing five or ten metres a lap. As our camp -- camera pans

:28:59. > :29:02.around, this is not the danger. I would swing up, and every time they

:29:03. > :29:05.hesitate and look around, they will snatch back another five or ten

:29:06. > :29:09.metres. They have a little bit of room to manoeuvre, but they do not

:29:10. > :29:16.have the firepower in a group of four to drive this advantage home.

:29:17. > :29:23.The time numbered. Riding on the front of the chase group, Laura

:29:24. > :29:28.Trott. Salazar of Mexico, Sierra from Cuba bringing up the rear of

:29:29. > :29:36.the quartet. Riding on the front, the rider from Japan. The other one

:29:37. > :29:43.in that group is from Belarus. She won the scratch race in Hong Kong in

:29:44. > :29:47.a World Cup meeting. It is an interesting dynamic of the race.

:29:48. > :29:54.While this race is out there, there is no incentive to attack. The race

:29:55. > :30:01.is held around the bottom. Anyone who was to attack has to go right

:30:02. > :30:07.around the outside. They have gained another ten metres, so they are

:30:08. > :30:11.nearly halfway through this race. The Belgian rider is just starting

:30:12. > :30:16.to turn the screw a little bit. Stefanie Rhoda trying to get on the

:30:17. > :30:21.wheel. Laura Trott is there, too. Those three are closing the gap. So

:30:22. > :30:26.much so that they are almost on them already. Now, with 22 laps to go,

:30:27. > :30:30.Laura Trott is very much involved at the front end of this race. Are they

:30:31. > :30:35.going to keep it going? They have charged across. They have

:30:36. > :30:39.neutralised it in a matter of a lap. That is the supply. They have

:30:40. > :30:43.decided that they are not going to burst ahead. There are a lot of

:30:44. > :30:47.people creating bridges to come together, but there will be some

:30:48. > :30:49.fatigue. It is a great opportunity for someone to make a counter move

:30:50. > :30:58.as Keeping an eye on Machacova from the

:30:59. > :31:04.Czech Republic. She cannot help herself. She's an animator. Every

:31:05. > :31:12.time she races she'll have a go. She will attack at some point and the

:31:13. > :31:18.Spanish rider was on her heel. D'Hoore from Belgium is strong. She

:31:19. > :31:21.won five national titles last year in the National Championships in

:31:22. > :31:24.Belgium. She's been an excellent rider on the road as well. A couple

:31:25. > :31:38.of World Cup wins last year. Good tacticians as well. They will

:31:39. > :31:43.be watching things carefully. Laura Trott was hovering at the front. She

:31:44. > :31:48.would like to sneak into a move, if she could. I think we have seen from

:31:49. > :31:52.the way she's moving around this group that she's up for a win here.

:31:53. > :31:54.She's not in it just to ride around. She really wants to see if she can

:31:55. > :32:08.take a world title here. The Slovak national track champion,

:32:09. > :32:21.from the rear of the American bide of Geist. There's a move

:32:22. > :32:28.on the inside from Boylan. They will be happy to let it go a little bit.

:32:29. > :32:33.The pace is consistently high. Very hard for an individual rider to stay

:32:34. > :32:38.away. She needs some company inside the next minute or so. Just 15 laps

:32:39. > :32:41.as she comes around this time to go. It is not long now and they will

:32:42. > :32:44.start to hesitate in about five to ten laps from now. It is when they

:32:45. > :32:55.will start to hesitate and wait for the sprint. Boylan is stinging them

:32:56. > :33:00.out here. We saw her compete in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She's

:33:01. > :33:06.a gap about two-thirds the length of the finishing straight, with Laura

:33:07. > :33:13.Trott leading the chase. Looking over her shoulder and Confalonieri

:33:14. > :33:17.is there. These are the wildcard moves you

:33:18. > :33:20.have to watch out for. It is a very unthreatening one individual that

:33:21. > :33:25.you think, oh they will not make it on their own, we don't have to chase

:33:26. > :33:30.too hard. They look around at each other and nobody can do anything

:33:31. > :33:41.about it. It looks like she may get company now.

:33:42. > :33:45.The Cuban having another go. She was in the early break away.

:33:46. > :33:51.There's Machacova, who is second on the track at the moment. Boylan is

:33:52. > :33:56.tying up a little bit. She will be overtaken shortly.

:33:57. > :34:01.Machacova from the Czech Republic and Sierra, from Cuba now leading

:34:02. > :34:07.the way. They overtake Boylan from Ireland. There are quality riders

:34:08. > :34:12.there. Boylan, she's not got the leg. The danger has been spotted

:34:13. > :34:16.from behind. The attacking from Geist from the United States. Laura

:34:17. > :34:23.Trott is right on her wheel. Trying to get on the wheel of Laura

:34:24. > :34:27.Trott and has done so. The Spainish rider keeping an eye on

:34:28. > :34:33.Laura Trott. She knows that Trott's wheel is a good one to follow. We

:34:34. > :34:37.have Machacova, Sierra and Becka. They are making a big mistake here.

:34:38. > :34:43.There are nine laps. They have half a lap to lead. It has started about

:34:44. > :34:47.the sprint. They know if I do the chasing down I have nothing for the

:34:48. > :34:50.sprint. They start to bluff and these three are pulling away. This

:34:51. > :34:55.is where the medals can come from. If they don't react very, very

:34:56. > :34:59.quickly. This race is starting to break up now as the Russian as well

:35:00. > :35:11.tries to bridge the gap. She's got some company over on the far side.

:35:12. > :35:15.And the company is from the rider from Hong Kong. The rider from Bella

:35:16. > :35:19.rush is a is trying to get back into it as well.

:35:20. > :35:23.Laura Trott has found herself on the back foot and has got down to the

:35:24. > :35:27.chase now. No-one wants to work, with six laps to go, I think this

:35:28. > :35:32.move has gone for good now. It is not coming back. I think she's found

:35:33. > :35:37.herself pinned down and that gap is not closeable, in my opinion.

:35:38. > :35:39.So Machacova, up at the front of the race.

:35:40. > :35:47.Sierra in there as well. They have been joined by the rider from

:35:48. > :35:52.Russia. And also the rider from hang Congress. There is a small

:35:53. > :35:56.opportunity arisen here. They started to back off and think about

:35:57. > :36:02.the sprint a bit early at the front. They are rolling through. With four

:36:03. > :36:06.laps to go, Laura Trott has given up thinking about somebody giving her a

:36:07. > :36:10.hand. She's got them in her sights. Win or lose she'll close it down on

:36:11. > :36:14.her own, I think. What a last four laps we'll have. For this world's

:36:15. > :36:29.world scratch race title. Sierra of due ba... They will get

:36:30. > :36:32.caught. I think the winner is likely to come from that grouping. They

:36:33. > :36:39.have charged behind. They have to close the gap.

:36:40. > :36:45.The Canadian leads the charge. They close the gap up with every... Laura

:36:46. > :36:52.Trott is being drawn into the race as well. How much has this effort

:36:53. > :36:57.taken from her? She has her right on her wheel. Now Laura Trott is back

:36:58. > :37:04.in the first half doz in the track. The Russian rider takes the bell.

:37:05. > :37:09.Laura Trott is in the hunt for a goal here. Here comes Laura Trott.

:37:10. > :37:14.On the outside... The stadium gets to its feet. It is Laura Trott

:37:15. > :37:17.against... It is gold for Laura Trott and for Great Britain. She

:37:18. > :37:22.showed her face at the front as they came into the finishing straight. It

:37:23. > :37:26.was perfect timing. It was the perfect lift for Great Britain in

:37:27. > :37:31.these championships. Laura Trott is a champion of the world for the

:37:32. > :37:35.sixth time, in her career. Well, that was a remarkable ride. I

:37:36. > :37:40.would not have believed that with five laps to go that she could turn

:37:41. > :37:44.that around. She did so much chasing and just took a breather and took

:37:45. > :37:49.the opportunity to follow the wheels and wait and wait and wait. We said

:37:50. > :37:53.at the start she's a fantastic tactical rider, well that was

:37:54. > :37:57.incredible self-belief. I can not believe she pulled that out of the

:37:58. > :38:02.bag after being so far down. A delight for the British team to get

:38:03. > :38:06.a gold medal. She is a winner! A winner in every sense of the word

:38:07. > :38:10.and Laura Trott would not be denied there. She was not in a great

:38:11. > :38:16.position at all, with six laps to go. She did a lot of the chasing to

:38:17. > :38:20.close that gap. She kept on going. Now the others knew her wheel was

:38:21. > :38:24.the one to follow but they could not get past her. It was an incredible

:38:25. > :38:28.one to watch. That was... I don't know how you hold your nerve when

:38:29. > :38:31.you see the laps are ticking away, less that a minute's racing

:38:32. > :38:34.remaining and waiting and waiting and you could see with half a lap to

:38:35. > :38:39.go she'd got herself into the position to win. But before that, it

:38:40. > :38:44.just looked impossible. What a race! What a finish! That was track racing

:38:45. > :38:51.at its thrilling best and Laura Trott can now begin to celebrate

:38:52. > :38:56.again. A day which started so badly with that disastrous ride for the

:38:57. > :38:59.British quartet in the British team pursuit and now celebrations with

:39:00. > :39:04.mum and dad at the side of the track as Laura Trott celebrates being the

:39:05. > :39:09.world champion again - the world scratch race champion.

:39:10. > :39:14.The defending champion settles for silver for the Netherlands and the

:39:15. > :39:24.rider from Canada takes bronze. What a smile! What a performance

:39:25. > :39:30.from Laura Trott. Sixth gold. What a way to win.

:39:31. > :39:33.How tough a race was that? As tough as she could have made it. I was

:39:34. > :39:39.nervous watching it. I don't know what she was like. She was so cool.

:39:40. > :39:44.She did not panic. Her legs would have been screaming there. She

:39:45. > :39:48.chased that break away down in the closing laps and held on with a

:39:49. > :39:52.sprint. It was phenomenal. She was surrounded by riders who looked

:39:53. > :39:56.twice her size. Everybody was watching Laura. Every time there was

:39:57. > :40:01.a break people were looking to see where Laura was. She had to win that

:40:02. > :40:06.race the really hard way because no-one wanted to expend any energy

:40:07. > :40:11.that was going to benefit her. She expended the energy and it did not

:40:12. > :40:15.benefit them. It feels like, in the blink of an eye, momentum has

:40:16. > :40:19.switched from saying, oh, no what is happening to the women's side of

:40:20. > :40:25.British cycling? She has got a medal. This could be a great night.

:40:26. > :40:29.A mark of a great champion to turn around a disappointing defeat like

:40:30. > :40:34.the team pursuit this morning and she's got the crowd in the palm of

:40:35. > :40:38.her hand. It was amazing. It lit the crowd up today. The first one I have

:40:39. > :40:40.got right all week as well. We want to hear from Laura Trott. She is

:40:41. > :40:49.there now with Jill Douglas. Congratulations and welcome home.

:40:50. > :40:54.Thanks. I am so happy. Honestly, when I was in the race I was not

:40:55. > :40:58.feeling all that good. I thought I would not chase people back to the

:40:59. > :41:02.group. I dug in and I thought I will let everybody work. When the

:41:03. > :41:06.Canadian went, I thought that is it I will have to chase. It worked out

:41:07. > :41:13.perfectly for me. When I started to go over, I was like, oh, this is

:41:14. > :41:16.early. It worked. I am so happy. It looked like nobody was willing to

:41:17. > :41:20.work with you? I knew that would happen. In a lot of the races, at

:41:21. > :41:26.the World Cups, it has happened to me. I was not the world champion. I

:41:27. > :41:30.got on with it and raced my own race. You had to do it the hard way

:41:31. > :41:34.as Sarah was saying. Obviously, I came from the back. There was a lot

:41:35. > :41:37.of people away. They were not working together, so I didn't kind

:41:38. > :41:45.of know it would come back. When it came back, like I say, I had the

:41:46. > :41:49.perfect leadout from Stephanie. Your sixth rainbow jersey, how is it? It

:41:50. > :41:55.is amazing. I love to be at this track. We won here in front of all

:41:56. > :42:00.my friends and family. I am happy. Busy work the omnium coming up and

:42:01. > :42:05.that team pursuit - what is the mood among the girls? Disappointing and

:42:06. > :42:10.did not go to plan. Unless you race this thing on the edge you don't

:42:11. > :42:13.know your limit. I would say I was disappointed it did break. The girls

:42:14. > :42:18.rode incredibly and we gave it all we could. We will come out tomorrow

:42:19. > :42:25.and try and get that gold medal. Fantastic! Thank you. What a year it

:42:26. > :42:29.could be for Laura Trott. She could become the first British woman ever

:42:30. > :42:31.to win three Olympic gold medals. Two laps out and she had to go for

:42:32. > :42:40.it and go early. She did. The gap was closing. The

:42:41. > :42:43.measure of them it was down to whether Weld would have the power at

:42:44. > :42:49.the end. She was hanging on to Laura's wheel. And being so much

:42:50. > :42:53.bigger she's generating a lot of power, how is Laura so effective. It

:42:54. > :42:58.seems you can be any size and it works. Power comes into it a little

:42:59. > :43:05.bit. She has incredible power for her size. She has an incredible

:43:06. > :43:12.acceleration. This is you two getting excited. I got on my feet

:43:13. > :43:20.there. Wow! It was thrilling to watch. It did not look on until the

:43:21. > :43:24.last lap. It is nerve-wraking watching it, I didn't realise how

:43:25. > :43:29.nervous until being on this side of the fence. You know what the

:43:30. > :43:34.build-up is like, to you what it is like to race in front of a home

:43:35. > :43:41.crowd - what difference does it make? A huge difference. Every

:43:42. > :43:46.athlete talked about it during the London games. It gives you that

:43:47. > :43:49.special feeling and as long as you don't let it give you too much

:43:50. > :43:54.pressure, it is a definite advantage. We turn our attention to

:43:55. > :44:00.the final of the Keirin and Becky James in this, having qualified and

:44:01. > :44:04.got through a tiny gap. It is tactical again as we saw in that

:44:05. > :44:08.race, but it is about speed. It is both. You have to have the right

:44:09. > :44:15.tactical knowledge and skill. Look at this gap. She did not panic.

:44:16. > :44:19.Luckily, not luckily, a good judgment, she sat there, did not

:44:20. > :44:22.panic. Had the shorter route and had shelter. All she had to do was get

:44:23. > :44:28.top three. She did not have to win the race, she knew that. That was a

:44:29. > :44:31.fantastic ride. Were the scratch you said I think Laura Trott -- before

:44:32. > :44:37.the scratch you said I think Laura Trott can win. It is the first one I

:44:38. > :44:41.have got right. The first one you have predicted - 100%. What would

:44:42. > :44:45.you say about Becky James in this Keirin? I don't expect her to win.

:44:46. > :44:50.She would not expect to win. She will go with a game plan. She's had

:44:51. > :44:54.an injury, a long time off the bike. Anything is a bonus now. Fifth place

:44:55. > :44:59.would be a great result for her, sixth place would be a great result

:45:00. > :45:04.for her. Without any pressure or expectation she could shine here. If

:45:05. > :45:08.she rides smart, she'll be up there with a medal. Would she have sat

:45:09. > :45:10.down there in her own bubble? Would she have been aware of what Laura

:45:11. > :45:22.Trott was doing? you have to be to perform in an

:45:23. > :45:26.empty room. The roar of the crowd will be the energy. She has to find

:45:27. > :45:30.those extra gaps again and maybe get a medal. It is a funny race, the

:45:31. > :45:36.keirin. It means from the Japanese word meaning fight. The man with a

:45:37. > :45:42.beret on the bike outfront. Make it is unusual! People get a little bit

:45:43. > :45:47.confused. What are the rules? How does it work? It is like a pace car

:45:48. > :45:50.in motorsport. As soon as the kite in the bike gets out of the way,

:45:51. > :45:59.that is when the race starts for real. He ramped up the speed.

:46:00. > :46:03.Incrementally and consistently? The derny, you can hear the note of the

:46:04. > :46:11.engine is changing as it gets higher. It gives you the adrenaline

:46:12. > :46:15.rush when you hear it. He toes the a certain speed, he gets out of the

:46:16. > :46:23.way, and then it starts. First, we will have the minor final. I'm

:46:24. > :46:27.getting my head around this! Let's rejoin our commentators.

:46:28. > :46:38.COMMENTATOR: There is Kylie McCulloch from Australia. The world

:46:39. > :46:50.sprint champion. Stefanie Morton, gold medallist in the Paralympics

:46:51. > :47:03.four years ago. Lee for Hong Kong. Berlin of China on the outside. --

:47:04. > :47:07.Lin. Here comes the derny. On the far side of that track at the

:47:08. > :47:14.moment. Slowly making its way around the banking. Then the -- when the

:47:15. > :47:21.derny goes past, the race will begin. The minor placings final. It

:47:22. > :47:25.will be 30-45 kilometres per hour for the women.

:47:26. > :47:32.As we saw in the first of the semifinals, the Australian riders

:47:33. > :47:36.going straight to the front. Will they right tactically at all? With

:47:37. > :47:42.they just go for it? I know that medals aren't at stake. That is a

:47:43. > :47:46.good poor -- good point. They will write for themselves and see what

:47:47. > :47:52.can be done. They will try not to hinder each other, but they will

:47:53. > :48:00.probably just right the race and see what can be done here. Quality field

:48:01. > :48:12.for a minor final. Absolutely. Bringing up the rear is the French

:48:13. > :48:19.rider the European bronze medallist, Cueff. She did not have the legs

:48:20. > :48:25.with two laps remaining in the final. Kylie McCulloch leading the

:48:26. > :48:38.way. Stefanie Morton right behind her. The Dutch rider third. Lin from

:48:39. > :48:42.China forth. Lee, good to see her competing. She had a heavy fall in

:48:43. > :48:47.the first round. She was brought off her bike through no full of her own

:48:48. > :48:55.when the Russian rider collided with her. A lot of the time, the track

:48:56. > :49:04.shakes of the speed and slows thingss down. They do take a tumble,

:49:05. > :49:12.then they get back up. You can see the bike getting a little bit faster

:49:13. > :49:19.with every passing lap. They only have a few seconds left to shelter

:49:20. > :49:22.behind it. That is why they are looking backwards. Half a lap to go

:49:23. > :49:30.until the derny is out of the way. Then they write as they wish. It is

:49:31. > :49:35.a long way to lead it out, 2.5 laps. Morton in second place. I thought

:49:36. > :49:41.Pinkney might have made more of a challenge. The slow pace is playing

:49:42. > :49:50.into the hands of the Australians. The visit on the front. Cueff has

:49:51. > :49:55.been boxed in. Lin from China goes out, and opens up a little bit of

:49:56. > :49:58.daylight. Right on her wheel is Stefanie Morton. McCulloch is in

:49:59. > :50:06.third place. Then there is little bit of a gap to Lee. Lin and Morton,

:50:07. > :50:12.and Morton has got the pace to overtake her, and Stefanie Morton

:50:13. > :50:21.wins the minor final. Stefanie Morton, the Australian, two-time

:50:22. > :50:31.commonwealth games champion, the champion of OCR near. She won the

:50:32. > :50:35.Hong Kong round earlier in the year, but she has won the final, and she

:50:36. > :50:40.was the clear winner of that. Not really under too much pressure. Here

:50:41. > :50:45.it is once again. She rode it beautifully. She got a fantastic

:50:46. > :50:49.lead out. That is exactly what she wanted. Riders will often try to put

:50:50. > :50:52.one person in front of them, so they can get some sleep scored --

:50:53. > :51:02.slipstream, but remain in control. That is what she needed. And

:51:03. > :51:06.Stefanie Morton over the line -- line in first place. Just getting

:51:07. > :51:09.ready for the final itself. No doubt, they will be disappointed not

:51:10. > :51:17.to be in the final. What a line-up we have for you, as we get

:51:18. > :51:18.confirmation of the results. Morton and McCulloch bringing the field

:51:19. > :51:36.home. Lin from China in third place. Here is the hurly-burly of the

:51:37. > :51:42.women's keirin when the race is really on. It looks a lot faster

:51:43. > :51:50.when you are right in the middle of it. Interesting to see what form the

:51:51. > :51:54.Dutch rider is in when it comes to the sprints later in the week. She

:51:55. > :52:02.got to the final and ended up with a silver medal last year. The women's

:52:03. > :52:08.competition is a real strength in depth. A real endurance discipline.

:52:09. > :52:23.They have closed it up. A bit nerve wracking for the Brits. The

:52:24. > :52:30.defending Champlin, Anna Meares. Shuang from China in the bread.

:52:31. > :52:36.Twice Olympic Games silver medallist, including in the keirin.

:52:37. > :52:43.Beaten by Victoria Pendleton. There is Anna Meares. And Christine Vogel,

:52:44. > :52:52.the current and defending world sprint champion. Basova from

:52:53. > :53:03.Ukraine, a two-time national champion, and Jin from Korea. She

:53:04. > :53:07.was third in New Zealand. She potentially could be a factor in

:53:08. > :53:16.this. She is not a big-name compared the others. I think Vogel is the one

:53:17. > :53:21.on form. Very strong. Massive experience, Anna Meares. Nothing to

:53:22. > :53:25.lose. Becky James, she has nothing to prove. Just getting here was a

:53:26. > :53:29.big success. Whatever happens to Becky James in this final, her

:53:30. > :53:35.return to world championship level rating has been a success by making

:53:36. > :53:41.it through to this final. Shuang from China takes the wheel of the

:53:42. > :53:46.derny. Becky James in second place. Good position to have. She has tried

:53:47. > :53:49.to be assertive in all of the races she has been involved in. As soon as

:53:50. > :53:54.that bike is preparing to disappear, she has been up towards the front,

:53:55. > :54:00.keeping her wits about her. She is trying to make sure she is not

:54:01. > :54:08.jumped from behind. By any of the other riders with the searing change

:54:09. > :54:12.of pace. Courageous ride in the semifinal. Really held her nerve,

:54:13. > :54:16.stayed around, knowing that she did not have to win it. She got in the

:54:17. > :54:21.top three, and she waited for everyone else to tire out. She

:54:22. > :54:27.nipped into a gap. She got third position, and real experience there.

:54:28. > :54:33.Anna Meares just loitering at the back of the field. Shuang at the

:54:34. > :54:38.front. Becky James in second. Lee of Korea in third. Fourth is Vogel from

:54:39. > :54:44.Germany. Then it is Basova of Ukraine, and Anna Meares in the

:54:45. > :54:50.green comet at the back. Two and a half laps until the derny pulls out.

:54:51. > :54:56.Anna Meares will want to move from that back position. I think she will

:54:57. > :55:01.do that in the next lap or so. They are starting to jockey for position.

:55:02. > :55:08.Anna Meares, the world keirin champion last year and also in 2011

:55:09. > :55:15.and 2012. Just over a lap to go now before the race begins. Tension

:55:16. > :55:21.build with every lap. This is the calm before the storm in the women's

:55:22. > :55:26.keirin final. She is glued to the back of that motorbike. Starting to

:55:27. > :55:30.think tactically. Becky James in a beautiful position, but she is going

:55:31. > :55:38.to have to defend it. She is boxed in at the moment. Two and a half

:55:39. > :55:43.laps to go. Writing at the front in pole position is Christina Vogel.

:55:44. > :55:49.Anna Meares has been assertive. Lee of career is on the shoulder of me

:55:50. > :55:56.Anna Meares. Becky James bringing up the rear with work to go. They will

:55:57. > :56:01.take the belt with a lap to go. Lee from Korea in second place. Gail

:56:02. > :56:05.Schwenk -- ten won there. Anna Meares in the middle of the track.

:56:06. > :56:09.But still it is Christina Vogel leading from the front, and try to

:56:10. > :56:14.stay in the front. Becky James is getting through to get a medal!

:56:15. > :56:18.Christina Vogel takes the gold were -- ahead of Anna Meares, and it is a

:56:19. > :56:22.bronze medal for Becky James of Great Britain, I am sure. She is

:56:23. > :56:27.going to be pleased with that. She knew that a medal was watching was

:56:28. > :56:31.after. She did not try to overplay her hand, and she could keep

:56:32. > :56:38.desperate she used the expense of Anna Meares who got in a good

:56:39. > :56:42.position, but Vogel had the legs. Becky James capitalised on that, did

:56:43. > :56:47.not panic, and when front second position to last, and then just

:56:48. > :56:56.thread threaded a way through. I think that is bonus medal for Becky

:56:57. > :57:04.James. She has been out for a couple of years. She has come through a

:57:05. > :57:07.series of races, and Vogel is in fantastic form as we can seat. She

:57:08. > :57:11.knew that Anna Meares was on the wheel. She could see people coming

:57:12. > :57:15.round the outside, but she knew that Anna Meares would not let them cut

:57:16. > :57:18.in, say she stayed there, did not panic, and the others dropped away.

:57:19. > :57:22.That is what they did, and she did not overplay her hand. She knew that

:57:23. > :57:34.a medal would be fantastic, and that is enough for me. He played it

:57:35. > :57:37.beautifully. You could sense from a long way out but Christina Vogel was

:57:38. > :57:39.going to take that gold medal. Excellent result for her. Christina

:57:40. > :57:43.Vogel is a seven time world champion. Anna Meares has a silver.

:57:44. > :57:47.It is a 26th world Challenger medal. An excellent bronze for Becky James

:57:48. > :57:52.of Great Britain, and there we see Vogel leading from the front, and it

:57:53. > :57:57.did not look like that was under serious threat. From yesterday, she

:57:58. > :58:01.looked like she was going to take that one. Very powerful at the

:58:02. > :58:02.moment. Really good to see. A deserved win.

:58:03. > :58:08.moment. Really good to see. A Meares is going to be unhappy. Gold

:58:09. > :58:14.for Germany. Christina Vogel can add that to her collection. She has

:58:15. > :58:17.already taken a bronze in the team spent on day one.

:58:18. > :58:25.STUDIO: What a shot. I love the shots from the middle of the race.

:58:26. > :58:28.There is Becky on the middle. Some good a performance that was from an

:58:29. > :58:32.athlete returning from illness and injury? That was a gold medal

:58:33. > :58:35.winning performance from Becky, that is the best she could have hoped

:58:36. > :58:40.for. She did not have the form to take on the race from the front. She

:58:41. > :58:43.knew that she had to follow the fastest rider. She hung in there and

:58:44. > :58:48.she defended well, and she did not panic. I think that is way beyond

:58:49. > :58:51.what she was expecting and what the team was expecting. A matter of

:58:52. > :58:55.weeks ago, she was still getting back on a bike for the first time in

:58:56. > :58:59.months. There was a moment where she might be boxed in, and they did not

:59:00. > :59:03.seem a route through here. I think she is giving herself some space to

:59:04. > :59:08.assess the situation. Then she found Anna Meares' wheel. She just rode

:59:09. > :59:11.into the gap, and allowed Anna to take on, and another is another gap

:59:12. > :59:17.to get round Vogel, and Becky moved into that. The key thing here is

:59:18. > :59:23.that if the person on the front is not driving it, and not going as

:59:24. > :59:29.fast, then Becky can be boxed in. But when it is that kind of pace, it

:59:30. > :59:34.stretches it out, and she can follow through on the shortest line. She

:59:35. > :59:39.did not have to do anything else. So your thoughts are, how fast can I

:59:40. > :59:43.go, how fast are they going, but who am I following? This is the media --

:59:44. > :59:48.reaction in the British camp. Everyone is delighted. She is so

:59:49. > :59:52.popular in the camp, and everyone thought, whenever she -- everyone

:59:53. > :59:55.gets frustrated when she is injured. Becky was disappointed not to make

:59:56. > :00:01.the team in London, and then to bounce back after being such an

:00:02. > :00:06.amazing world champion in 2013, that is as significant as bright as those

:00:07. > :00:11.performance into -- performances in 2013. Important she has a clean five

:00:12. > :00:17.months and get her back -- crack at the Olympics in Rio.

:00:18. > :00:22.She is not at the top of her game, which is what everyone else needs to

:00:23. > :00:28.worry about. She is the rider that can continue to improve. For Rio,

:00:29. > :00:33.Becky will be right on top form again. A bronze medal for Becky

:00:34. > :00:38.James, a golf Laura Trott, still with the men's team pursuit to come,

:00:39. > :00:42.and Ed Clancy returning from a back operation is going to be in that

:00:43. > :00:46.team with Bradley Wiggins. He's in there because they believe he can do

:00:47. > :00:51.the job. I firmly believe that the quicker he went in the second round

:00:52. > :01:00.this afternoon, I think they can do it, I really do. If they can beat

:01:01. > :01:05.them, then that bodes well for Rio. Ed Clancy is that purpose that lead

:01:06. > :01:09.man, out of the blocks. People think, it is the team pursuit,

:01:10. > :01:14.everybody has a front row within the team. For the first lap, the first

:01:15. > :01:17.person has the toughest role because they need a bigger effort at the

:01:18. > :01:22.start and recover once the team is fully up to pace. What would you

:01:23. > :01:26.say, Sarah, the way that it is feeling tonight, how much would that

:01:27. > :01:30.feed through to the men's team? They will be buzzing to see their

:01:31. > :01:33.success. It has turned back in our favour now and Great Britain will be

:01:34. > :01:37.gunning for it. It is the Australians on the other side of the

:01:38. > :01:42.track. That means a little bit more. There's lots of banter. For the rest

:01:43. > :01:46.of the road season some of these boys will race each other on the

:01:47. > :01:51.road. This is the one that they all want to win. This is the blue ribbon

:01:52. > :01:56.event for endurance riding. Very shortly we will have the medal

:01:57. > :02:00.ceremony for the Scratch Race and four Laura Trott. And we will get

:02:01. > :02:04.the first chance at these jabbing chips to hear the national anthem.

:02:05. > :02:08.You can sense the sensibility in the stadium not just with the crowd but

:02:09. > :02:11.with the riders themselves. Once you have broken that Buck and got the

:02:12. > :02:22.first gold medal it makes a huge difference to morale. -- that Buck.

:02:23. > :02:27.As the medallists make their way onto the podium let's rejoin Simon

:02:28. > :02:32.Brotherton for this very special medals ceremony. Thank you, Claire.

:02:33. > :02:39.Laura Trott in a familiar position in front of the podium with riders

:02:40. > :02:44.on either side of her. Still trying to work out how she won that race.

:02:45. > :02:49.She looked out of it. She is way down, she has won it. She basically

:02:50. > :02:54.said to everybody else, I am not going to do everything, during the

:02:55. > :02:58.race. That is a real feel for the race, something I certainly never

:02:59. > :03:03.had, but she could see, she calculated. I am the defending

:03:04. > :03:08.champion. Someone has got to bluff here. I have got a good hand. Off

:03:09. > :03:13.you go, you will lose the race. Everyone else cracked. She did her

:03:14. > :03:21.bid to participate. She really control that race, whether she

:03:22. > :03:34.thinks she did, or not. The current Pan-American Points Race champion,

:03:35. > :03:40.from Canada. She is in third place. And reflecting on a title that is no

:03:41. > :03:45.longer hers, but she has another medal for the collection. The gold

:03:46. > :03:49.medal in this event a year ago. She has a couple of bronze medals in the

:03:50. > :04:00.Omnium over the years on the track, a very accomplished road rider. And

:04:01. > :04:02.now, for the first time, the crowd can cheer for a British world

:04:03. > :04:18.champion at these championships. She must wish that she could raise

:04:19. > :04:28.here every time. Double Olympic champion on this track. And now a

:04:29. > :04:32.World Championship jersey won year, too. It is the sixth time she has

:04:33. > :04:37.told on the rainbow jersey and she is only 23 years of age. I am

:04:38. > :04:40.looking forward to the elimination race in the Omnium. It really is

:04:41. > :04:45.something to watch and navigate through that marauding bunch. Every

:04:46. > :04:49.other lap someone is eliminated. This means she has already got a

:04:50. > :04:55.world title in the bag which lists not only the team, but she has got

:04:56. > :05:00.nothing else to prove. She will come out of this a world champion. She

:05:01. > :05:04.could get a double gold-medal here. The team certainly needed a lift

:05:05. > :05:13.after the opening day and a half, and also the crowd inside the

:05:14. > :05:16.velodrome. The flowers still to be presented before we hear the

:05:17. > :05:22.national anthem. You mentioned the neon. We will look forward to that.

:05:23. > :05:26.As she won that world title in 2012. She has finished second for the last

:05:27. > :05:31.three years in that event. Very, very consistent performer. Every

:05:32. > :05:36.programme for, riding the team pursuit and this scratch race, and

:05:37. > :05:47.the Omnium, so that is an awful lot of racing she has got over a few

:05:48. > :06:03.days. Ladies and gentlemen, the national anthem of Great Britain.

:06:04. > :06:38.CHEERING Down in the dumps this afternoon and

:06:39. > :06:42.back on top of the world a few hours later. That is the mark of a true

:06:43. > :06:53.champion, and we're looking at one right there. The world champion in

:06:54. > :06:57.the women Scratch Race, Laura Trott. -- women's Scratch Race. What a

:06:58. > :07:00.race, what a ride, what a performance, fantastic stuff on a

:07:01. > :07:06.very exciting evening for British Cycling. Let's hear from Becky James

:07:07. > :07:11.after her bronze medal in the women's Keirin. I do not think there

:07:12. > :07:14.will be a more popular medal in the British camp and in this velodrome

:07:15. > :07:20.than that. How special did that feel? I cannot believe it, cannot

:07:21. > :07:24.get my head round it. Bronze medal. To have a bronze after what I have

:07:25. > :07:30.been through in the last few years, and at home in London with all the

:07:31. > :07:35.support here, is just incredible. Just some great riding as well,

:07:36. > :07:38.fantastic Keirin racing. From the repechage into that semifinal and

:07:39. > :07:44.then into the final, what a great runner races. I like to do it the

:07:45. > :07:51.hard way. To do a bit of extra racing. I have not ridden the Keirin

:07:52. > :07:54.says the nationals in September. I have been doing a bit of Keirin

:07:55. > :07:59.training, and it has really worked, just to get myself in the top six,

:08:00. > :08:02.each step I made today was a complete bonus. When I got through

:08:03. > :08:07.the repechage, I was so overwhelmed I could not believe it. And then

:08:08. > :08:13.into the final. It just doesn't feel real. I am over the moon and back. I

:08:14. > :08:17.think you pick the right wheel to sit on, Anna Meares made some space

:08:18. > :08:21.for you. That was critical. It was really good. It was weird because

:08:22. > :08:28.that is what it was in the worlds, 2014. I had this weird premonition

:08:29. > :08:33.that it would be Kristina Vogel, Anna Meares and me. We will last you

:08:34. > :08:38.the lottery numbers. I cannot tell you that! Are you feeling good?

:08:39. > :08:45.Really good. It has been a really tough road. The World Cup was tough

:08:46. > :08:48.for me. I was knocked out in the first round, which was so

:08:49. > :08:54.frustrating. But to be back doing the Keirin, the one event that I

:08:55. > :09:01.really love, I have been working so hard, I have just seen improvements,

:09:02. > :09:05.week in, week out. And the Rio -- the dream of Rio still very much

:09:06. > :09:10.alive. Yes, I am over them moon getting top three here. I am hoping,

:09:11. > :09:18.I am back in the team now, I'm giving myself more opportunities.

:09:19. > :09:22.Thank you so much. Thank you. I right in saying that Rio would be

:09:23. > :09:26.her first Olympics? One of the things she said that I love, you

:09:27. > :09:31.must have felt this about the Keirin, you have to love it to be

:09:32. > :09:34.good at it. Before I rode it, I would watch the Keirin with

:09:35. > :09:42.amazement. The whole crowd get into it. Anything can happen at any time.

:09:43. > :09:46.To do well in it, it is such a buzz. Becky is 23, Laura Trott is 24, so

:09:47. > :09:51.they are argued the coming into their peak. It is amazing what Laura

:09:52. > :09:55.Trott has already achieved. I remember her first event when she

:09:56. > :10:01.came from a junior world champion in Delhi at the Commonwealth Games.

:10:02. > :10:05.Just to see what she has done and have been a team-mate of hers, she

:10:06. > :10:10.just keeps going from strength to strength. And she has got more years

:10:11. > :10:14.to come. Because female endurance athletes generally get better as

:10:15. > :10:20.they get older, so this is not the end of it. Let us discuss Sir

:10:21. > :10:23.Bradley Wiggins, who has won six gold medals at track World

:10:24. > :10:27.Championships, four British gold medals, the first British man to win

:10:28. > :10:32.the Tour de France. He does not sit back and rest, he says, do you know

:10:33. > :10:35.what? I would like to try another challenge, to go to another

:10:36. > :10:41.Olympics, the eclipse is maniere with his wrecker of gold medals, so

:10:42. > :10:45.I will come back to the track, so badly thought. In this team pursuit,

:10:46. > :10:49.he needs lots of help from his friends. Jill Douglas has been

:10:50. > :11:07.inside the camp. She has spent a day with the British pursuit team.

:11:08. > :11:14.You have not completed in a big track event like this for a while.

:11:15. > :11:20.Looking forward it? The worlds is a different stage. And the last track

:11:21. > :11:25.worlds I did was 2000 when we won the cup here, eight years ago. And

:11:26. > :11:35.my first was in 1998. It is a long time ago. How does an athlete of the

:11:36. > :11:39.calibre and character of the Sir Bradley Wiggins fit into this group

:11:40. > :11:44.with a lot of young riders? I was asking myself how we would manage

:11:45. > :11:52.this. And Brad Pitt 's 100% into the team. He's a very instrumental guy.

:11:53. > :11:56.He is, he brings the right balance and comes everybody down. It is not

:11:57. > :12:02.that he is above everybody else. He's at the same level, but he is a

:12:03. > :12:06.very solid part of this team. Are you enjoying having Bradley Wiggins

:12:07. > :12:13.on the track with you? It is fantastic. He is good for morale. We

:12:14. > :12:17.all really respect him. How are the boys running? Do you feel good?

:12:18. > :12:22.Compared to what we used to be when we were training for the worlds in

:12:23. > :12:26.Beijing now, the speeds now, having to recalibrate, everything we do,

:12:27. > :12:31.we're pretty much on world-record pace all the time. The whole group

:12:32. > :12:34.has moved on. We train like sprinters now, really, because the

:12:35. > :12:45.event has become a sprint injuries event. Qualification was .0 404 and

:12:46. > :12:50.now we're hoping to do sub .350 full stop so it has moved on by 15

:12:51. > :12:58.seconds in a lap. And it just shows in 15 years, how much it has moved

:12:59. > :13:01.on. 00 Ludik Champion Ed Clancy is fighting to regain top form and his

:13:02. > :13:08.place in the team after back surgery. How does it feel to be good

:13:09. > :13:12.-- to be back? Really good. The operation was December two. I spent

:13:13. > :13:17.two and a half weeks trying to walk. It should be done now. We had lost a

:13:18. > :13:24.bit of condition and range in my right leg. Getting a little bit more

:13:25. > :13:28.each week. By the time get to Rio, it should be all right. It must be

:13:29. > :13:34.funny with Ed being off and you missing a few. It is like, if you're

:13:35. > :13:40.slightly off that 1%, 2%, you have other guys that are going to fill

:13:41. > :13:45.in. So soon as you're slightly off the pace, there is someone always to

:13:46. > :13:50.fill your slot. Andy says that you are fine, that it feels good. I am

:13:51. > :13:56.fine. How is it all putting together? It is all right. It is

:13:57. > :13:59.pretty cold today, but we are still doing good times. You enjoy that

:14:00. > :14:05.level of competition amongst you all? There needs to be competition

:14:06. > :14:10.for the four slots. It wishes the team in general forward. Everybody

:14:11. > :14:14.gives that bit more. This weird is harder when you're on that back

:14:15. > :14:22.foot. We will see. We will see what the numbers look like. Every effort

:14:23. > :14:26.we do is fed back as to what speeds were and how you did individually.

:14:27. > :14:31.And that is evidential as to how they pick the team and with the

:14:32. > :14:35.grass and things we have it is quite clear to see the profiles and who is

:14:36. > :14:39.doing what in the line. When you look at the detail, does it reflect

:14:40. > :14:43.how it feels during the race? Like, I felt really good today. The

:14:44. > :14:50.numbers back that up. Yes, that is what it is. Personally, the re-today

:14:51. > :14:55.was better. In the finish, you were like... There seems to be a good

:14:56. > :15:01.spirit. It is a good laugh. It is nice having such a big group. It is

:15:02. > :15:06.good. Within the group, you have guys competing for the same spaces.

:15:07. > :15:11.So there is a natural rivalry. It is a nice problem to have. Of course

:15:12. > :15:16.there was rivalry but there is also this element of honesty because

:15:17. > :15:18.these guys go to training camps in the middle of nowhere, they stick

:15:19. > :15:26.together, they are like brothers now. This team bonding is really

:15:27. > :15:29.strong. That unity of spirit will be vital in London and even more so

:15:30. > :15:34.when they reach their ultimate goal, the Summer Olympics. How do you feel

:15:35. > :15:38.about attending that Olympic title? I think about it every day, really.

:15:39. > :15:47.It is what I really want to do, the Olympic title. That is a big goal

:15:48. > :15:51.for me. At the end of the day it was about the fastest four guys trying

:15:52. > :15:55.to win a medal in Rio, and I think everyone is in tune with that. The

:15:56. > :15:58.World Championship is a big step towards Rio. It has been on your

:15:59. > :16:03.mind for couple of years. It is a big commitment for you to make, for

:16:04. > :16:07.you to say that this is going to be my goal. Coming off the road and

:16:08. > :16:12.coming back in with these guys, trying to train like a sprinter,

:16:13. > :16:16.having spent years trying to lose weight and climbing mountains, that

:16:17. > :16:20.is the challenge, as well. It has been enjoyable and it has kept it

:16:21. > :16:21.fresh. I would love to carry on. But age will be against me.

:16:22. > :16:32.Sir Bradley Wiggins there, who will line up in the gold medal race

:16:33. > :16:39.against Australia. The line up is Jon Dibben, Owain Doull and Bradley

:16:40. > :16:47.Wiggins. He has put on 14 kilos. It is a product of his training and his

:16:48. > :16:54.diet. You can try to get headier -- heavier. But the training he has to

:16:55. > :16:59.do, to get to 3.50... The race for the minor places is going on now. It

:17:00. > :17:06.looks like that New Zealand will take seventh place. Then we have the

:17:07. > :17:11.bronze medal race. What does Bradley Wiggins bring to the camp other than

:17:12. > :17:17.his ability on track? What else comes with him? Experience, ability

:17:18. > :17:24.to cope under pressure no more pressure than you get in the middle

:17:25. > :17:28.of a stage race. He has been on the track numerous times. If someone has

:17:29. > :17:32.got a problem, they will be up to ask Bradley, what can we do

:17:33. > :17:40.differently? He is hilarious! He would do in pressures. He will list

:17:41. > :17:43.the move. -- impressions. He can do impressions of one of the staff or

:17:44. > :17:49.one of his team-mates. Everything will burst out laughing, and every

:17:50. > :17:54.thing would be OK. He is coming up to 36, but how has he been looking

:17:55. > :17:58.on the track? He has been the strongest rider in the squad so far,

:17:59. > :18:05.and that is a relief everyone. He leads from the front. He is not just

:18:06. > :18:09.about being Sir Bradley Wiggins. This was the semifinal performance

:18:10. > :18:14.against Italy. They were looking smoother than they had done. They

:18:15. > :18:18.had a couple of changes in the line-up. By the end there was to

:18:19. > :18:23.win, but not to waste too much energy for the final. They are

:18:24. > :18:27.saving fair -- saving everything to the battle against Australia. They

:18:28. > :18:33.were talking about the bond between the four of them. You need the

:18:34. > :18:37.squad, and they are all playing their part, as they have been. The

:18:38. > :18:43.tough thing is that only four of them are going to get the right. You

:18:44. > :18:48.accept that, when you take on the role. You accept that you have data,

:18:49. > :18:52.and you have objective data to pick a team with, and if you are not one

:18:53. > :18:57.of the four, then you have to accept that. When he have a guy who brings

:18:58. > :19:03.big match mentality and experience, how much is that -- how important

:19:04. > :19:10.for coming everyone down in an atmosphere that the pressure gets on

:19:11. > :19:13.and it affects your division that decision-making? You have to

:19:14. > :19:20.remember the experience of Steven Burke and Clancy. Steven Burke won

:19:21. > :19:23.medal in 2008, and it has almost been forgotten. He was on the podium

:19:24. > :19:28.with Bradley Wiggins back then. He has the experience as well. But

:19:29. > :19:34.Bradley is the boss. That is the word that a lot of people said in

:19:35. > :19:43.that first piece. When you watch them at work, it is like a beautiful

:19:44. > :19:47.wave, a flowing, and that is anticipation and understanding, that

:19:48. > :19:50.rhythm has to be right. It looks very graceful and stream from neon

:19:51. > :19:55.sign, but when you get close-up and you see the power input that these

:19:56. > :20:01.guys are producing, it is almost a sprint, and to do that time, it is a

:20:02. > :20:04.one lap strip -- sprint. We heard from Ed Clancy in training in

:20:05. > :20:08.Manchester. We have not seen him race in qualification for this

:20:09. > :20:12.final. Is that a tactical decision by the coaches? Does he just had one

:20:13. > :20:15.effort in him? Absolutely. They would not put him in there if they

:20:16. > :20:20.weren't confident that he could deliver. The question is can they do

:20:21. > :20:24.it two, three, four times? Fingers crossed, it will be the right

:20:25. > :20:30.decision. I think it will be the right call to make. This is going to

:20:31. > :20:37.be a close final. The man who inspired by the Wiggins to become a

:20:38. > :20:39.cyclist was Chris Boardman. It was watching Chris at the 1992 Olympics

:20:40. > :20:56.that they thought the team pursuit requires athletic

:20:57. > :21:01.prowess. What decide the outcome is the error dynamic understanding and

:21:02. > :21:06.a bit of physics. Take it away, Charlie! Want out of the starting

:21:07. > :21:09.gate, and up to speed, the riders AlterNet between high-powered turns

:21:10. > :21:14.on the front and then sheltering behind the team-mates. On the front

:21:15. > :21:17.of a top team travelling at more than 63 kilometres per hour, the

:21:18. > :21:22.lead rider is having to produce more than 800 watts of power just to push

:21:23. > :21:27.through the air. To put that into perspective, for us on the leisurely

:21:28. > :21:30.bike ride, we will be using five times less than that. One they have

:21:31. > :21:39.done their turn, they moved to the back of the team. How they do that

:21:40. > :21:44.is clever. One of them drop to the back. They use the shape of track to

:21:45. > :21:50.affect the change. Living to the back is like riding up the hill. The

:21:51. > :21:55.shape of the Ben Mee is they travel further. The higher they go, the

:21:56. > :21:59.further they travel further than the team. If their trajectory is just

:22:00. > :22:04.right, gravity will bring them back down within millimetres of the last

:22:05. > :22:08.rider's wheel. The whole manoeuvre can take less than two seconds. If

:22:09. > :22:12.they get the colour -- alkylation is wrong, they will have to expend

:22:13. > :22:16.precious energy having to --, and they moved asthma may lose

:22:17. > :22:28.concentration altogether. Bling description from Chris. That

:22:29. > :22:34.is what this race requires. -- brilliant. Does it help if all four

:22:35. > :22:37.team members are the same shape and size? That will be a luxury that

:22:38. > :22:41.everyone would love to have, but that is not the case. We have

:22:42. > :22:44.different abilities on the day, you have different shapes and sizes, and

:22:45. > :22:50.how you put them together is part of the magic. You cannot measure that,

:22:51. > :22:54.how you manage those resources. That is something that we have seen the

:22:55. > :23:00.GB team struggling with in this championship. How do you assess that

:23:01. > :23:04.final line-up? Is there any risk in putting Ed Clancy in there? Yes, it

:23:05. > :23:08.is an unknown. They are looking to win in this. They are not looking to

:23:09. > :23:14.do the best they can, or looking to be safe. They will take some risks.

:23:15. > :23:20.Ed Clancy, although he has not written, he has got such a history

:23:21. > :23:23.behind him. He is one of the best starters in the world, and I am

:23:24. > :23:27.fascinated to see what will happen. They cleaned up in their last rider

:23:28. > :23:31.after the opener, which was quite ragged, and I am expecting big

:23:32. > :23:35.things. As Chris has said earlier, I think it is going to be a really

:23:36. > :23:39.good fight. But if you were looking at the market, would you make

:23:40. > :23:40.Australia favourites for this? I think Australia have looked smoother

:23:41. > :24:02.up to now. I think the riders are out there. They

:24:03. > :24:06.are going through their final practices.

:24:07. > :24:13.What are the gold medal by distilling? They will have a

:24:14. > :24:23.detailed plan. You can work it out out almost to the second. The riders

:24:24. > :24:27.are getting their skin suit on. Late are listening to music, something to

:24:28. > :24:32.block out there distractions. They are looking at it lap by lap.

:24:33. > :24:35.Focusing on the performance, not on the outcome, not thinking about a

:24:36. > :24:37.gold or silver medal. They are doing what they have to do individually to

:24:38. > :24:47.get the best performance this evening. Are there rules as to how

:24:48. > :24:50.newts -- stay in front? It is how you put the ride together. Those are

:24:51. > :24:53.one of the things that you go through in the final few minutes,

:24:54. > :24:58.making sure that the path for the set part of the race is in your

:24:59. > :25:02.head, soak you know the bad one is going to do the -- back one is going

:25:03. > :25:05.to do a lap and three quarters. The piece it together, but also you have

:25:06. > :25:11.to do what happens in the race as well. Someone things in a half

:25:12. > :25:15.because they are slowing the pace. You are discussing it with the

:25:16. > :25:18.coach, how they are going to walk the line, and the feedback you are

:25:19. > :25:21.going to get from track-side. All of that is put together in the race.

:25:22. > :25:29.You're making the right decisions under pressure, thinking about your

:25:30. > :25:33.team-mates and self. When you drop down from the top, if there ever an

:25:34. > :25:38.incident of clipping the wheel in front of you? Absolutely. It is a

:25:39. > :25:42.real risk. You are always pushing the limit. The closer you are to the

:25:43. > :25:49.wheel in front, the more energy saving affect you receive. In 1997,

:25:50. > :25:54.Ukraine against Italy, and I think Ukraine were about two seconds up

:25:55. > :26:01.and they had the gold medal in the bag, but two guys went out, and then

:26:02. > :26:06.it was game over. It can happen. Presumably, you have to write with

:26:07. > :26:10.no fear. You never focus on the things that go wrong. The focus on

:26:11. > :26:15.the things you have to control. You focus on what you have to do, not

:26:16. > :26:26.what you should do. Let's get going. Let's get out onto the track to seek

:26:27. > :26:31.the bronze race. COMMENTATOR: The sky logo on the

:26:32. > :26:36.shorts. Lining up for Italy for this bronze medal ride.

:26:37. > :26:46.They are up against Denmark. Bronze medallists in 2013. They include the

:26:47. > :26:59.Olympic on the champion, and they have some good riders. -- omnium.

:27:00. > :27:03.They have a rider who has two world champions medal -- championship

:27:04. > :27:13.medals. Bronze medals on the line this time. Denmark starting in the

:27:14. > :27:19.home straight. Final adjustments made for the Italian squad. There is

:27:20. > :27:29.Viviana, who will be one of the main players in the omnium. -- Vivani. He

:27:30. > :27:37.has got a busy schedule. He is a cracking track rider. He has had a

:27:38. > :27:46.strong season on the road. He almost doesn't stop racing. 12 months from

:27:47. > :27:47.track season to road season. Pretty much everyone going under four

:27:48. > :27:55.minutes. They're as you can see, 25 seconds

:27:56. > :28:14.away. They are making way for this ride.

:28:15. > :28:19.Some of the talent of Vivani, they were always going to go with him.

:28:20. > :28:25.The games are the favourites. They scraped under 3.55 before. It could

:28:26. > :28:31.be a catch up on the cards for them. Italy were the squad beaten by it in

:28:32. > :28:37.Britain in the last round. It was an excellent trial Alli draw for the

:28:38. > :28:41.British quartet. The Italians were the slowest qualifiers. Denmark have

:28:42. > :28:46.had a decent team pursuit squad for a few years now. They have been

:28:47. > :28:55.there or thereabouts. They have been coached by a Briton. Already, we can

:28:56. > :29:00.see Denmark making a good start here. Let's have a look at the early

:29:01. > :29:05.gap. Just over three tenths of a second. They have gone out very

:29:06. > :29:17.hard, and you can see them pushing on. 3.54.9. Very quick time. They

:29:18. > :29:26.have some good road riders. Hansen races on the road. The teenager

:29:27. > :29:30.Larsson, seventh in the junior world time trial championship. I think the

:29:31. > :29:37.Danish strategy, looking at this, is to go out really hard. They are

:29:38. > :29:41.eating up the ground now. They are a second up on Italy, and at these

:29:42. > :29:45.speeds, that means that they are almost able to see them as they come

:29:46. > :29:51.into the straight. Two more laps, and they were able to do that. They

:29:52. > :29:58.will use them to try and draw them in. They they looked like a drilled

:29:59. > :30:03.unit. Can they keep it that way for the rest of this ride, and will it

:30:04. > :30:08.carried them to a bronze medal? The probability is that they will. They

:30:09. > :30:11.are riding hard, they are not riding safe. They are trying to prove a

:30:12. > :30:17.point. They do not want to just claim a medal, they want to get the

:30:18. > :30:22.best possible time. You have to say, in terms of proving a point, New

:30:23. > :30:26.Zealand proved a point for seventh and eighth races. New Zealand had a

:30:27. > :30:33.dreadful ride earlier today, which meant that they were in the Mac --

:30:34. > :30:39.lowly minor final, but they posted a time of 3.55.875 for seventh place.

:30:40. > :30:43.That shows where we are. The Danes, we got some close ups of some faces,

:30:44. > :30:46.and looking at the body language, they are really pushing on here.

:30:47. > :30:52.They are taking some risks, and the Italians are performing above

:30:53. > :30:57.expectations. 1.4 seconds, they are behind now, and still slipping back,

:30:58. > :31:02.but they are fighting hard, and the Danes are already in this race, just

:31:03. > :31:05.2.5 minutes in, and they are pushing on, and they are down to three, sure

:31:06. > :31:21.enough, they have fractured already. Those three have to try to stick

:31:22. > :31:25.together. There is no alternative now, as they go into the final four

:31:26. > :31:30.lapse. It seems like they are gaining a 10th of a second with

:31:31. > :31:34.every lap at the moment. They have lost the opportunity to make any

:31:35. > :31:38.mistakes. There's three of them, the clock stops on the third man. They

:31:39. > :31:43.have been working hard and they are pushing on. The Italians have closed

:31:44. > :31:48.it by a 10th, but still 1.5 seconds to go. They are sticking it all out,

:31:49. > :31:51.on the track, the telling Quartet, riding really strongly in this race

:31:52. > :31:58.the bronze. They are closing the gap. But I don't think they are

:31:59. > :32:08.closing enough because the trio is still out there for Denmark, looking

:32:09. > :32:12.mighty strong. I thought on paper they had an outside possibility of a

:32:13. > :32:17.catch, but I think they are going to be happy just to get the bronze.

:32:18. > :32:22.They have worked hard for this. Here come the Danes, the bronze medal is

:32:23. > :32:30.theirs, much to the delight of the coach, and Denmark take the bronze,

:32:31. > :32:38.3.55.96 is the time and Italy were 3.58.2, as well. So the Danish squad

:32:39. > :32:42.just marginally slower than New Zealand. Good ride from Denmark.

:32:43. > :32:46.They dominated that from start to finish. It went almost exactly one

:32:47. > :32:51.seconds slower than the previous round. The Italian surprise them a

:32:52. > :33:01.little bit by going slightly faster. Good ride by them.

:33:02. > :33:06.Denmark asserting their authority on this bronze medal ride, almost as

:33:07. > :33:12.soon as they were out of the gate. Really putting the hammer down

:33:13. > :33:16.early, to establish a sizeable cushion, a sizeable advantage over

:33:17. > :33:23.the Italians, who did not panic under pressure. They did their own

:33:24. > :33:26.right. The Danes, I think, capable of doing considerably faster if they

:33:27. > :33:36.cleaned up a little bit technically. There were some ropey changes. There

:33:37. > :33:40.is Sir Bradley Wiggins in the final few moments, to gather his thoughts.

:33:41. > :33:45.We have seen it from him so many times in so many big events and

:33:46. > :33:49.here, and the two rides we have had in the team pursuit so far, he has

:33:50. > :33:57.looked to be on top of his game. He really has brought his A game. He

:33:58. > :34:01.looked as if he had been just down to the shops to buy a newspaper. The

:34:02. > :34:04.coaches have been saying in training he has been just the same as

:34:05. > :34:08.everybody else, holding his own, doing a good job and embracing that

:34:09. > :34:13.is when you get the change and it goes up a gear. It perhaps took them

:34:14. > :34:18.by surprise. He is better than they expected and he has got more to

:34:19. > :34:21.give. You can have confidence through the longer term in this team

:34:22. > :34:29.and look after the two younger members. The Australian line-up, Sam

:34:30. > :34:34.Welsford just 20. Michael Hepburn is the most experienced one even though

:34:35. > :34:41.he's only 24, a 5- time world champion. Callum Scotson named in

:34:42. > :34:44.the Australian quartet. One or two of them could come into the Olympic

:34:45. > :34:49.Games for Australia, who are not here at this moment, but Bradley

:34:50. > :34:54.Wiggins there, 12 world titles across all disciplines on road and

:34:55. > :34:59.track. Six golds on the track including two in this event but not

:35:00. > :35:06.for a good few years now, in 07, and in 08. But they have got the

:35:07. > :35:11.experience and the youth, Ed Clancy coming in for this final. A 5- time

:35:12. > :35:16.world champion, two pursuit world titles were going way back over a

:35:17. > :35:26.decade, a double Olympic champion in this event. What a final we have in

:35:27. > :35:31.prospect. We are not sure what Ed Clancy has got to give. He can deal

:35:32. > :35:40.with the pressure. That is for sure. On his day, one of the best starters

:35:41. > :35:45.in the world, of course. Wiggins, taking huge confidence from the two

:35:46. > :35:49.previous rights. Clancy has got to get them out of the gate. They have

:35:50. > :35:54.saved him for the final. A courageous move, to bring him in for

:35:55. > :36:04.this right. But he will not let them down. Classic sporting confrontation

:36:05. > :36:09.that in Jules and never fails to be anything -- never fails to do

:36:10. > :36:12.anything other than the liver. It is a World Championship final between

:36:13. > :36:18.Great Britain and Australia. Ed Clancy leads on the opening lap.

:36:19. > :36:22.That is his role. They think that he has got one good ride in him, as he

:36:23. > :36:28.recovers from that cooperation and gets back to top form, and Clancy

:36:29. > :36:34.has a considerable engine on him, which will be required here. Steady

:36:35. > :36:37.start from him. A very different style, the Australians, determined

:36:38. > :36:41.to get their nose in front early on, and they have done just that.

:36:42. > :36:47.Australia trying to put the pressure on here, in this four K race. Just

:36:48. > :36:54.over 0.5 seconds advantage for the team from down under. A long way to

:36:55. > :36:59.go in this final. It is not time to panic yet, that is for sure, but

:37:00. > :37:04.they get off the mark, like a team sprint start, three quarters of a

:37:05. > :37:08.second in advance. The advantage is now being held by the British team.

:37:09. > :37:14.We want to see them start to enable it back. Owain Doull riding on a

:37:15. > :37:16.fun, what a great young talent the Welshman is, third overall in the

:37:17. > :37:21.Tour of Britain on the road last year, but now it is all about the

:37:22. > :37:25.track, it is all about the road to Rio, and try to secure that gold

:37:26. > :37:29.medal. Has to come down, it has just a little bit but it is staying in a

:37:30. > :37:36.similar sort of area. Bradley Wiggins on the front. Going through

:37:37. > :37:38.a long term, and a gain of two tenths of a second in the long-term,

:37:39. > :37:43.just why the extra length that they don't use that change. Still coming

:37:44. > :37:49.round on the front, ploughing forward with the team, bringing

:37:50. > :37:53.them, they have lost another 10th of a second, so he is holding his own,

:37:54. > :37:57.but they need more speed. Nine laps to go and the gap has gone up and

:37:58. > :38:03.stop there is work to do for Great Britain. How much have they got in

:38:04. > :38:06.the tank? Slipped another few hundredths of a second. The

:38:07. > :38:12.Australians are matching them stride for stride. Britain finding it hard

:38:13. > :38:17.to take a bite at that lead and close it down, as Ed Clancy goes to

:38:18. > :38:21.the front again. He has done a great job because he just pulled back

:38:22. > :38:28.nearly half a second and a single term. It is all going to come down

:38:29. > :38:35.to the closing stages of this race. 0.3 of a second in it between the

:38:36. > :38:38.teams now. Absolutely nothing. The injuries of Wiggins will come into

:38:39. > :38:44.play in the last part of this race. Great Britain -- the insurance of.

:38:45. > :38:49.Great written closing in, and closing in, as Wiggins comes up the

:38:50. > :38:54.front. Jon Dibben is done, and down to the final three. Now it is back

:38:55. > :38:57.up to 0.4 of a second, less than half a second in this classic

:38:58. > 1:32:03confrontation, great written against Australia. This might be where the
