0:00:27 > 0:00:28Well, absolutely.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34Get Away For Winter teams up sun-seekers with a local property

0:00:34 > 0:00:36- expert... - Can you see yourself in here?

0:00:36 > 0:00:40- I can, yeah.- ..to find their perfect rental retreat.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43- It's like you're on holiday all the time. - LAUGHTER

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Together, there'll leave no stone unturned...

0:00:46 > 0:00:48This is unbelievable, isn't it?

0:00:48 > 0:00:53..in order to find and fund their dream winter getaway.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56This is what I was dreaming of and didn't even think existed.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08UK winters can take their toll on the best of us.

0:01:08 > 0:01:13In Essex, one sun-seeker hoping to make her getaway a reality

0:01:13 > 0:01:17- is Amanda Cruise.- I'm happier in the sun, when I can go out for a walk

0:01:17 > 0:01:20and walk on the beach, and swim.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24It makes me a bit miserable when you see the dreary rain coming down

0:01:24 > 0:01:27- of a day. I'm really, really a sun worshipper. - SHE LAUGHS

0:01:30 > 0:01:34Amanda is at a bit of a crossroads in her life, after her marriage

0:01:34 > 0:01:36ended almost three years ago.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40She left her job working in customer services at Gatwick Airport and is

0:01:40 > 0:01:42now looking to make a big change in her life.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44I'm currently single.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47I have been for the last couple of years.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49I sort of lacked a little bit of confidence, I suppose,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52from having my heart broken, so I'm much more confident.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56I think it's time for me now, and I think I

0:01:56 > 0:02:00should get away for the winter

0:02:00 > 0:02:02to see whether I really do like it.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07If her winter getaway is a success,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Amanda would like it to be a more permanent move.

0:02:10 > 0:02:14Her only ties to the UK are the close relationships she has with her

0:02:14 > 0:02:16family, including her brother Joel,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19daughter Natalie, granddaughter Paige,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22and of course not forgetting little Beau.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24I think she kind of needs our help, doesn't she, at the moment.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26She needs our opinions.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29Yeah, well, she hasn't really got anyone else to ask, really.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31And she's always had someone,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34so I think she kind of relies on us as well.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36I think she's done really well to...

0:02:36 > 0:02:39- Yeah, definitely.- ..to do what she's done for herself recently.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Yeah, no, she is doing really well.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44The family will be helping with Amanda's search,

0:02:44 > 0:02:48especially as they all plan to visit regularly and enjoy those long

0:02:48 > 0:02:51holidays in the sunshine.

0:02:51 > 0:02:56I've actually sold my house a couple of years ago, so with the proceeds,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58I've been able to travel,

0:02:58 > 0:03:04and now I'll be able to rent an apartment and see how that goes.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08After selling her former family home,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Amanda initially rented a flat in Surrey, but for the last few weeks,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14she's been staying with Natalie and Paige in Essex.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18We are a little bit on top of each other.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20I'm actually in my daughter's bedroom,

0:03:20 > 0:03:25that she's kindly given up for me while I stay here for a few weeks.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29And my granddaughter can't really wait, I don't think,

0:03:29 > 0:03:32to get her bedroom back.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34She's sharing with her mummy at the moment,

0:03:34 > 0:03:38so I think she'll be happy that I'll be moving on.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43If Amanda was to rent a place of her own in Essex,

0:03:43 > 0:03:48she'd be spending around £1,185 a month for a two-bed flat.

0:03:48 > 0:03:52Instead, Amanda's going to use this money to rent in the sunshine,

0:03:52 > 0:03:56and she's also trying to drum up some extra spending money by selling

0:03:56 > 0:03:58off some unwanted jewellery.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01We've weighed out and graded all the different gold,

0:04:01 > 0:04:04so you've got quite a lot of eight-carat and nine-carat.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07And we've got some stuff here that we might need to test as well...

0:04:07 > 0:04:10- Oh, OK.- ..for valuation.- Yeah.- Joel is helping, as he has a friend in

0:04:10 > 0:04:13- the business.- Commercial stuff like the Tiffany and the Swarovski,

0:04:13 > 0:04:16you'll be better selling that on online auction.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Using the funds she'll make from downsizing her possessions,

0:04:19 > 0:04:22and the money she would have spent on renting a property in the UK,

0:04:22 > 0:04:27Amanda has set her winter sunshine budget at £1,400 a month.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Now, this will cover all her food,

0:04:29 > 0:04:33travel and entertainment while she's abroad.

0:04:33 > 0:04:38£750 to £900 of this will be spent on her perfect winter rental.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40She knows how to make it work financially,

0:04:40 > 0:04:44and she certainly knows where she wants to go.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46I'd like to move to Mallorca.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50Pretty sunny out there, and I have actually been there before.

0:04:50 > 0:04:54So Amanda is leaving behind the rain and sleet

0:04:56 > 0:04:58for a taste of winter sun and heat.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02The Spanish island of Mallorca, off the coast of Spain, is the largest

0:05:02 > 0:05:04of the Balearic Islands.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06The island is extremely popular with tourists,

0:05:06 > 0:05:09particularly the Brits and Germans,

0:05:09 > 0:05:11and the airport in the capital of

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Palma is one of the busiest in Spain.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16Here, winter temperatures hit an

0:05:16 > 0:05:18average high of 18 degrees in winter,

0:05:18 > 0:05:21comparable to an average British summer's day,

0:05:21 > 0:05:23and with a lot more sun guaranteed.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Artists and writers have been attracted to the dramatic and

0:05:27 > 0:05:31picturesque west coast of the island for many, many decades,

0:05:31 > 0:05:33and it's long been a hub for the glitterati.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39And a woman who knows Mallorca property like the back of her hand

0:05:39 > 0:05:43is Jan Dexter, who moved to Mallorca from Essex back in 1985.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47One of the best things about living in Mallorca is the way of life.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51We spend a lot of time outside for obvious reasons. And we can do lots

0:05:51 > 0:05:54of things outside - barbecues, meeting up with friends.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58It's a very social place to live, a very safe place to live.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02Mother-of-two Jan met her partner on the island, and together

0:06:02 > 0:06:05they have a German Shepherd called Sam.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09Jan set up her own property business in 2011,

0:06:09 > 0:06:13and has advice for anyone wanting to dip their toe into Mallorca's busy

0:06:13 > 0:06:16- rental market.- With anyone looking, they quite often need to be a little

0:06:16 > 0:06:21bit flexible. Start off with a wish list, but you need to give and take

0:06:21 > 0:06:25a little bit to get the ideal property for people.

0:06:25 > 0:06:27And then, most importantly, you need to move fast.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30If you delay a couple of days, you could lose that property.

0:06:35 > 0:06:36Back in the UK,

0:06:36 > 0:06:40Amanda's waiting to video call Jan and let her know exactly what she's

0:06:40 > 0:06:44looking for in a winter home. INTERNAL RINGTONE

0:06:44 > 0:06:47- Hello.- Hello. Is that Amanda?- It is!

0:06:47 > 0:06:51Exciting times ahead. I hear you want to come and live in Mallorca.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53I do, yes.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56Well, I came here 31 years ago, so obviously I can recommend it.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58- Oh, wow! Oh, fantastic! - LAUGHTER

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Tell me, Amanda, what is it that you're thinking about?

0:07:01 > 0:07:05I'd like a nice apartment, actually. Probably just one bedroom is fine.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08Two would be great. I will have family coming to visit.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12Amanda has visited Mallorca before, and she has a good idea of

0:07:12 > 0:07:14where she would like to stay.

0:07:14 > 0:07:18Yeah, I've looked at, sort of the area near Palma, the city.

0:07:18 > 0:07:23Being on my own, I do want to feel safe. I won't have a car with me.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26- Right.- So it would be quite nice, you know, that I can just hop on the

0:07:26 > 0:07:31bus or walk. The beach, actually, is a big pull for me.

0:07:31 > 0:07:36- So, the beach, somewhere that's safe for you.- Yeah, yeah, a safe area.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40So somewhere near Palma, somewhere safe,

0:07:40 > 0:07:43somewhere with good public transport and near to the beach.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45Anything else, Amanda?

0:07:45 > 0:07:50I'd like a nice, big balcony. That's pretty important, actually.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54Some outside space, a balcony, or whichever.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Let's add "modern" to the wish list and a great beach-facing balcony.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00- Oh, that's lovely.- See you next week.- Yeah, I'll see you next week.

0:08:00 > 0:08:06- Take care. I look forward to meeting you in person. Bye!- OK, bye. Bye. - LAUGHTER

0:08:07 > 0:08:12It's a big list, and Amanda has high hopes that Jan can deliver.

0:08:12 > 0:08:16I'm really confident, actually, that Jan's going to find me something.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19Yeah, I think I'm in safe hands there.

0:08:21 > 0:08:27For her rental budget of between £750 and £900 a month,

0:08:27 > 0:08:31Amanda's hoping for a one or possibly two-bed apartment with good

0:08:31 > 0:08:33transport links, great outside space,

0:08:33 > 0:08:36and most importantly, somewhere near the sea.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39The ball has been set in motion,

0:08:39 > 0:08:43and Amanda's new life abroad may be moving from dream to reality.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS

0:08:58 > 0:09:01Amanda has made the two and a half hour plane journey from London to

0:09:01 > 0:09:04Mallorca's capital, Palma,

0:09:04 > 0:09:08and she's enjoying her first sight of the Mallorcan sun.

0:09:08 > 0:09:13Just waking up in Mallorca and looking out on the balcony...

0:09:14 > 0:09:18watching the sunrise, it's just amazing, I love it.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22Jan is on her way to meet Amanda, to get the property search underway.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28The biggest difficulty, really, is, as soon as a great property becomes

0:09:28 > 0:09:31available, it's snapped up in 24 hours.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33She will have to make a fairly quick decision,

0:09:33 > 0:09:36otherwise somebody else will snap up that property

0:09:36 > 0:09:38and we're back at square one.

0:09:38 > 0:09:42I can't wait. I know that she's really worked hard to get some

0:09:42 > 0:09:45properties together for me to see,

0:09:45 > 0:09:49and I just hope one of them is going to be the one.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52- Hi!- Hi, Amanda.- How are you? - At last!- I know!

0:09:52 > 0:09:56- How are you?- Yeah, I'm good. - Excited?- Yeah, yeah, very excited, yeah.- Good, so am I.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58- I can't wait!- I've got some lovely properties.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01- Oh, lovely.- Beautiful blue skies? - Definitely.- Shall we go?

0:10:01 > 0:10:04- Beautiful. Definitely. - This side.- Oh, yeah. - LAUGHTER

0:10:07 > 0:10:11The four properties Jan will be showing Amanda are all in different

0:10:11 > 0:10:12areas of Mallorca.

0:10:12 > 0:10:14So how have you coped with the search?

0:10:14 > 0:10:16You found me some lovely properties?

0:10:16 > 0:10:19Ah, of course, of course I have.

0:10:19 > 0:10:23It's been quite difficult, because there's not very many properties

0:10:23 > 0:10:27- around.- Oh, gosh.- A fair number are quite expensive.- Yeah.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30But then, you know, good properties, somebody goes and sees them and...

0:10:30 > 0:10:33- Yeah.- ..they disappear.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37Amanda will video call her lovely family back in Essex at each

0:10:37 > 0:10:40property, as she's counting on them to help her make a decision.

0:10:40 > 0:10:45- I like the opinion of family, like my daughter and my brother, you know.- Yeah.- Even my granddaughter,

0:10:45 > 0:10:48because she said, "Oh, you've got to get a pool, Nana," you know.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52- How old is she?- She's 11. - Oh, right, well, yeah, of course. - LAUGHTER

0:10:52 > 0:10:55Yeah. I think, if they could, they'd come every weekend.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01They are heading to the first property, and where better to start

0:11:01 > 0:11:04than the capital, Palma.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07Of course, Palma is absolutely fantastic. I mean,

0:11:07 > 0:11:10it's heaving all year round. There's life, there's so much to do.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15Situated on the south coast of the island, Palma has been

0:11:15 > 0:11:19transformed since mass tourism arrived in the 1950s.

0:11:22 > 0:11:27Almost half the population of Mallorca live in this capital city.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29- It's the capital of the entire Balearic Islands.- Yeah.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33And you've got lots of shops. Look at... I mean, a beautiful marina.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36- This is beautiful.- Looks gorgeous.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39Palma boasts countless cafes, bars and restaurants.

0:11:39 > 0:11:43It's the perfect place to soak up the sun and people-watch.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47The first property Jan is showing Amanda is just a stone's throw from

0:11:47 > 0:11:49the city centre, with views overlooking the marina.

0:11:51 > 0:11:56Love it. The sun is shining on us today. Lovely. Oh, wow!

0:11:56 > 0:12:01- It's nice and secure, which obviously, I know is important for you.- Yes. Yeah, definitely.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05Secure, central, and next to a lovely little park -

0:12:05 > 0:12:07Jan's off to a good start.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15- You said you wanted modern, didn't you?- Oh, wow!

0:12:15 > 0:12:17- And lots of light?- Yes.

0:12:18 > 0:12:22The apartment has a spacious lounge area and open-plan kitchen,

0:12:22 > 0:12:25which offer luxury modern living.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27Oh, my!

0:12:27 > 0:12:29This is absolutely beautiful!

0:12:30 > 0:12:33- You're right, I'm going to be... - This is modern.- Yeah.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36I don't think we could find more modern.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39The apartment has one good-sized bedroom.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42- So, into the bedroom.- Oh, lovely!

0:12:42 > 0:12:45- More windows. - Yeah. Nice and light, too.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48- Plenty of storage.- Yeah, there is a lot of storage, actually.- Which is important for us girls.

0:12:48 > 0:12:52- Yeah, definitely. Yeah.- And, saving the best until last,

0:12:52 > 0:12:56this beautifully equipped designer apartment has panoramic views over

0:12:56 > 0:12:59- the marina.- Wow!- And now you can really see the view.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02Yeah, definitely.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04- Really beautiful. - And feel the sea breeze.

0:13:04 > 0:13:09- Yeah, I'm definitely inviting myself.- Wow!- If you have this nice bottle of wine there and...

0:13:09 > 0:13:13- Oh, definitely. - ..watch Palma twinkle below us. - LAUGHTER

0:13:15 > 0:13:19The question is, does Amanda's budget spread to an apartment of

0:13:19 > 0:13:21this standard in such a central location?

0:13:21 > 0:13:25- Do you want to know the price? - Yeah, go on, tell me the price. - LAUGHTER

0:13:25 > 0:13:29- Well, it is a little bit above your budget.- It is.- Yeah.

0:13:29 > 0:13:35- I thought it might be.- Yeah. I mean, it does take all the boxes, doesn't it?- It does, yeah.

0:13:35 > 0:13:40And the price is £1,160 a month.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42- Wow, OK.- But the good news is, that's all in.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45- That's included all your running debts.- That's fantastic.

0:13:45 > 0:13:48- Yeah, so actually that would be just the end figure per month.- Yeah,

0:13:48 > 0:13:52- each month.- I wouldn't have to think about any bills or anything.- No, no.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56Bills for an apartment of this size are likely to be in the region of

0:13:56 > 0:13:58£150 a month.

0:13:58 > 0:14:00So, taking that into account,

0:14:00 > 0:14:05this property isn't too far over Amanda's £900 budget.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07It is a big decision for me.

0:14:07 > 0:14:12I'll have to maybe think about the price per month, but...

0:14:12 > 0:14:15yeah, I'm really excited, actually.

0:14:20 > 0:14:24Now, back in Essex, it's 10 degrees colder and a lot, lot wetter than

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Mallorca. Amanda's brother Joel,

0:14:27 > 0:14:31daughter Natalie, and granddaughter Paige are eagerly waiting to have a

0:14:31 > 0:14:35- look at this apartment.- Yeah, I'm feeling really excited for Amanda,

0:14:35 > 0:14:38and it'll be interesting to see what different properties

0:14:38 > 0:14:41that she's getting to see.

0:14:41 > 0:14:42INTERNAL RINGTONE

0:14:45 > 0:14:52- Hi!- Hi.- Hello.- You all right?- Oh, yeah, what's the weather like there?

0:14:52 > 0:14:54- Raining.- Raining, miserable. - It's raining? Yeah.

0:14:54 > 0:14:57It's bright sunshine here. It's absolutely amazing.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00This is an amazing apartment. I'm just...wow!

0:15:00 > 0:15:04- Do you like it?- It's got the wow factor. This is the stunning view.

0:15:04 > 0:15:05There's the marina, look!

0:15:07 > 0:15:09Oh, wow. It looks lovely.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11- Look at that.- It's all very modern.

0:15:11 > 0:15:13Yeah, so it's got a window here that is opposite the bed.

0:15:13 > 0:15:18At the end, sort of, virtually the end of the bed, so, I think I'd keep the blind open

0:15:18 > 0:15:21and, you know, wake up to that in the morning.

0:15:21 > 0:15:25You know, like, bright sunshine and... The park's down there,

0:15:25 > 0:15:30so there's all lovely trees. It's really, really quite pretty, actually.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33Well, I think that viewing went really well.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37Fantastic apartment, wonderful views, lovely and modern.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40I guess the only little concern is the budget -

0:15:40 > 0:15:42a little bit above what she wants to pay,

0:15:42 > 0:15:45but maybe you we've got some room for manoeuvre.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47How much is it?

0:15:47 > 0:15:49Well, that's the thing, that's why I wanted to call you,

0:15:49 > 0:15:57because it's, um, it's £1,160 per month.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59But it does include everything,

0:15:59 > 0:16:02so it's quite a big decision, I, think, because obviously it's over

0:16:02 > 0:16:05what I really want to pay,

0:16:05 > 0:16:08but I think it's a consideration that I've got to take.

0:16:08 > 0:16:15- Well...- What do you think?- I think, if you took that property and that

0:16:15 > 0:16:19view and put it in England somewhere, it'll be double,

0:16:19 > 0:16:23- three times that.- Yeah.- I'm really glad that, you know,

0:16:23 > 0:16:26that you like it as well, cos that's important for when you come

0:16:26 > 0:16:30- over and visit. We can sit there, looking at that lovely view...- Yeah.

0:16:30 > 0:16:35- ..having some sangria. Well, you have to have orange juice, Paige. - LAUGHTER

0:16:35 > 0:16:39OK, so I better go now, but, yeah, it's been lovely talking to you.

0:16:39 > 0:16:45- Bye!- Bye!- bye. Bye, Paige.- Bye.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48- So, how did that go?- They all liked the apartment as much as I did and,

0:16:48 > 0:16:52yeah, I think they're looking to book their flights already,

0:16:52 > 0:16:56to come and stay. Yeah, they all loved it.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59They all just said, "Oh, you know, go for it!" It is a little bit out

0:16:59 > 0:17:03- of my budget...- So you're moving in? - So, yeah, maybe. - LAUGHTER

0:17:03 > 0:17:06Something definitely to consider. High on the list.

0:17:08 > 0:17:12Amanda has fallen for the first property she's seen,

0:17:12 > 0:17:18available to rent for £1,160 a month - including bills, by the way.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20It may only have one bedroom,

0:17:20 > 0:17:24but Amanda was taken with the modern interior and those dazzling views

0:17:24 > 0:17:27over the port, and indeed its proximity to Palma city centre.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31But, ultimately, will Amanda feel that a one-bedroom with no balcony

0:17:31 > 0:17:33is worth stretching her budget for?

0:17:38 > 0:17:40If Amanda makes the move abroad,

0:17:40 > 0:17:44she'll be one of over 1 million Brits living in Europe,

0:17:44 > 0:17:48with almost a third of those people settling in Spain.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51Many ex-pats come to Spain to retire,

0:17:51 > 0:17:55but around 60% of the British community are under 65,

0:17:55 > 0:17:58many of whom work in the country.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01To help support herself while she's in Mallorca, and help her meet

0:18:01 > 0:18:06people, Amanda's planning on picking up work as a PA, or in a bar.

0:18:06 > 0:18:10Presently, British citizens can travel, work,

0:18:10 > 0:18:13and live in Europe without any special visa requirements,

0:18:13 > 0:18:16although this may be subject to change over the next couple of

0:18:16 > 0:18:20years, as the UK goes through the process of leaving the EU.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22Back on the search, Amanda and Jan

0:18:22 > 0:18:25are heading off to property number two.

0:18:25 > 0:18:29So we're coming into Santa Ponsa now,

0:18:29 > 0:18:33and this is where I've got

0:18:33 > 0:18:35a lovely property to show you...

0:18:35 > 0:18:39- OK.- ..with sea views, as you requested.- Oh, lovely.

0:18:41 > 0:18:46Nestled on the coast, Santa Ponsa is 14 miles to the south of Palma,

0:18:46 > 0:18:49but there are frequent trains that take you right into the capital in

0:18:49 > 0:18:5230 minutes. Here, Amanda's budget goes quite a bit further

0:18:52 > 0:18:57than in Palma, and although the area isn't top of Amanda's list of dream

0:18:57 > 0:19:02locations, it does have a bustling town centre and beautiful beaches.

0:19:02 > 0:19:04Have you been to Santa Ponsa?

0:19:04 > 0:19:07I have. I went there last year for a couple of days.

0:19:07 > 0:19:14- Yeah.- So I was staying near to the large beach that's there.- Right.

0:19:14 > 0:19:18And lovely restaurants there, too, actually.

0:19:18 > 0:19:22- One of our favourite restaurants, actually.- Oh, really?- Yeah.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26The property's hilltop location means there are stunning panoramic

0:19:26 > 0:19:29views of the Santa Ponsa coast.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33- Gosh, that's a lovely view, isn't it?- Wow!- It's really impressive, isn't it?- It is, yeah.

0:19:33 > 0:19:37- Lovely. Oh, we're here already.- So, yeah, OK. This is the first door.

0:19:37 > 0:19:38Lovely.

0:19:41 > 0:19:45The apartment features a large open-plan kitchen and living room,

0:19:45 > 0:19:47with beautiful views over the coastline.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52Wow, that looks gorgeous.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55- How lovely.- How's that for a view? - Lovely beach?

0:19:55 > 0:20:01- Yeah.- It's lovely, isn't it? - Wow.- I think it's really a wow, yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04And best of all, it's only a short walk to the sea.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06It's quite funny, you can hear the people on the beach.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09- Playing on the beach, yeah. - Because it's so quiet up here,

0:20:09 > 0:20:12- the sounds are, you know... - Yeah.- ..which is quite nice, actually.

0:20:12 > 0:20:16There's a fully-equipped kitchen, and it gives Amanda the two bedrooms

0:20:16 > 0:20:19she really wants, so there's plenty of space for guests.

0:20:20 > 0:20:23Oh, it's quite big, actually.

0:20:23 > 0:20:26Surprised? Nice and bright, isn't it?

0:20:26 > 0:20:30- Plenty of wardrobe space. - Wardrobe space, yeah, certainly.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33- Which we know is important, don't we?- Yeah, definitely, yeah.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36And a room that Natalie, Joel, and Paige can use.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40- This is the second bedroom.- Yeah. - Twin beds.- Oh, that's handy.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43- Yeah.- The apartment doesn't have a balcony, but there is a communal

0:20:43 > 0:20:48roof terrace with breathtaking views of the bay below.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52- So, the final thing, of course, you don't know the price...- Mm-hmm.

0:20:52 > 0:20:56- ..and you'll be pleased to know that, actually, this property is under your budget.- Really?

0:20:56 > 0:21:02- Yeah.- Oh, wow!- It's £625 a calendar month.

0:21:02 > 0:21:06- Wow! Oh, my gosh, that's amazing... - Yeah.- ..for what it has. I mean,

0:21:06 > 0:21:10- obviously, two bedrooms and everything.- Exactly.- Yeah.

0:21:10 > 0:21:14Even when Amanda factors in the cost of bills -

0:21:14 > 0:21:18which can be up to £130 a month for a property of this type -

0:21:18 > 0:21:22the apartment still comes under her maximum budget of £900.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25However, being out of her original search area,

0:21:25 > 0:21:29and with no balcony, Amanda does have reservations.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33So it's time to talk it through with the family back in the UK.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36- Hi!- Hi!

0:21:36 > 0:21:40Obviously I brought her out of her comfort zone and...

0:21:40 > 0:21:42no balcony.

0:21:43 > 0:21:47OK, so I'm at this apartment in Santa Ponsa.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51So it's a little further than my chosen area.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54- The views are fantastic.- It's got a great view out the window.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58- Oh, that looks lovely.- Wow! Yeah.

0:21:58 > 0:22:02But remember, this is just a window, there isn't a balcony.

0:22:02 > 0:22:06- Oh, right, yeah.- OK. Yeah. OK, so this is the bedroom.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09That one looks a little bit more dated, doesn't it?

0:22:09 > 0:22:12Yeah, it definitely is.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14OK, so this is the second bedroom.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18So you can just see there's wardrobes there, mirror,

0:22:18 > 0:22:22- and the window is there, and... - They're quite high, aren't they?

0:22:22 > 0:22:26The price was very interesting. I thought that may sway it.

0:22:26 > 0:22:29Anyway, I've left Amanda in the apartment to have a little look

0:22:29 > 0:22:32around, and she's speaking now to the UK,

0:22:32 > 0:22:34to her family, and see what their views are.

0:22:34 > 0:22:37- What do you think so far? Are you...- Yeah, I don't like it.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41- You don't like it?- Is there a pool?

0:22:41 > 0:22:43No, Paige, there isn't a pool.

0:22:43 > 0:22:45So I'm going to sign off.

0:22:45 > 0:22:50- Take care.- See you soon. Bye.- Bye! - Take care.- Bye.

0:22:50 > 0:22:52Have they convinced you how brilliant this apartment is?

0:22:52 > 0:22:55- No.- Not even Paige with that second bedroom? - LAUGHTER

0:22:55 > 0:23:00- No, she doesn't like it. She said it hasn't got a pool, for one. - LAUGHTER

0:23:00 > 0:23:03She didn't like the bedroom. They did like the view.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08No, I'm not quite sure about that property at all, really.

0:23:08 > 0:23:11It's not really my mum at all.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15Well, it's not looking good for property number two,

0:23:15 > 0:23:20despite being available to rent under budget for £625 a month,

0:23:20 > 0:23:22excluding bills.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25It gives Amanda the space she wants, and amazing sea views,

0:23:25 > 0:23:28but it doesn't have the outside space

0:23:28 > 0:23:30or modern finish that she craves.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38Amanda's property search is focused along the south-west coast

0:23:38 > 0:23:40of Mallorca.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44This area is famed for its white sand beaches, and attracts most of

0:23:44 > 0:23:47the 10 million annual visitors to the island.

0:23:47 > 0:23:51In winter, however, island life is quite a bit more tranquil.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54Renting here in winter also has its big advantages,

0:23:54 > 0:23:58with prices plummeting across all budgets.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00A one-bedroom apartment may cost

0:24:00 > 0:24:03as little as £350 a month in the winter.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06And if money is no object,

0:24:06 > 0:24:09there are plenty of luxury properties on the rental market.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12Take this villa in Santa Ponsa -

0:24:12 > 0:24:16surrounded by extensive terraces, with spectacular views over the

0:24:16 > 0:24:20surrounding countryside and towards the ocean.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24Its modern designer interior and four bedroom suites are spread over

0:24:24 > 0:24:27the property's two wings.

0:24:27 > 0:24:29It has a swimming pool and a whirlpool,

0:24:29 > 0:24:34and it's available to rent for £4,500 a week in winter,

0:24:34 > 0:24:38reduced from £7,500 in the high season.

0:24:39 > 0:24:42Or this stone house nestled in a picturesque village.

0:24:42 > 0:24:47It delivers a slice of easy-going Mallorcan life in the countryside,

0:24:47 > 0:24:49while being just ten minutes from

0:24:49 > 0:24:52three major towns and a beautiful beach.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54The house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms,

0:24:54 > 0:24:57many options for alfresco dining,

0:24:57 > 0:25:00and has its own private swimming pool.

0:25:00 > 0:25:04It's available to rent in summer for £6,200 a week,

0:25:04 > 0:25:08but in the winter that price halves to £3,100.

0:25:13 > 0:25:16As well as reduced rental rates,

0:25:16 > 0:25:18a big pull in spending winter abroad

0:25:18 > 0:25:20is the chance to live like a local...

0:25:22 > 0:25:28and Amanda is keen to fulfil a dream of learning how to dance,

0:25:28 > 0:25:33so she's come to a dance studio in the centre of Palma, run by Jordi.

0:25:33 > 0:25:36- Hey.- Hi, Nice to meet you.- Yeah, you too, Jordi. Hi. How are you?

0:25:36 > 0:25:40- Fine. You want to dance a little bit Of salsa?- I do, yeah, that would be

0:25:40 > 0:25:42- great.- OK, come with me. - OK, thank you.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49Amanda is hoping that by attending dance classes she won't just pick up

0:25:49 > 0:25:53some dance moves, but also some new friends, up close and personal.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56- Here we start just with the basic. - OK.- OK?- Yeah.

0:25:56 > 0:26:01And I'll show you, we start with the right...

0:26:01 > 0:26:04She's certainly a fast learner. What a mover!

0:26:04 > 0:26:09Salsa's roots stem from 1920s Cuba, and it's a mix of African and

0:26:09 > 0:26:12Spanish influences. It developed

0:26:12 > 0:26:15throughout the US and Latin America, and today is popular all

0:26:15 > 0:26:18around the globe, with various distinct styles stemming from

0:26:18 > 0:26:21their different geographical origins.

0:26:23 > 0:26:25So, how long have you been dancing?

0:26:25 > 0:26:2726 years that I am dancing.

0:26:27 > 0:26:30- Yeah.- And it's my passion.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35In Strictly Come Dancing terms, with the salsa,

0:26:35 > 0:26:40the upper body should remain level while letting your hips go wild.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43SALSA MUSIC PLAYS

0:26:43 > 0:26:46SHE LAUGHS

0:26:46 > 0:26:49It's so funny. Thank you so much.

0:26:49 > 0:26:51That was so much fun, thank you.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56- You say you did groups here as well?- Yes.- Group dancing?- Yes,

0:26:56 > 0:26:58- group dances...- So, I guess I'd meet, you know,

0:26:58 > 0:27:02- if I came here, I would meet some people as well.- Yes, yes. It's very

0:27:02 > 0:27:05good in the group lessons to meet people, because also

0:27:05 > 0:27:09sometimes there are people that don't come with a partner...

0:27:09 > 0:27:15- Yeah.- ..and then you find someone to dance in the group.- Sure. Yes.

0:27:15 > 0:27:19And also you meet the other people from the group, and sometimes,

0:27:19 > 0:27:24- after, the groups sometimes go to dinner or go to dance, and...- Oh!

0:27:24 > 0:27:30- ..they are creating a...- Yeah. - Yes.- Like a social...- Yes, relationship, yes.- Yeah.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32- Oh, that's lovely. I like the idea of that.- Yes.

0:27:40 > 0:27:44Having seen two properties so far, Amanda and Jan are back on the

0:27:44 > 0:27:47search to help Amanda in her quest to start a new life.

0:27:49 > 0:27:52And luckily there are still two more properties to show.

0:27:54 > 0:27:57We're going to beautiful Cala.

0:27:57 > 0:28:01- OK.- "Cala" is a cove...- Yes.- ..in Spanish.- OK.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04So we're going to Cala Vinyes. Don't know if you've ever heard of it.

0:28:04 > 0:28:07- I haven't, actually.- Right.- I've not been there at all.

0:28:09 > 0:28:13Cala Vinyes is just 30 minutes by bus or car to Palma.

0:28:13 > 0:28:16It's built around a small, sheltered cove surrounded by cliffs,

0:28:16 > 0:28:19and it enjoys its own micro-climate, and the sun is known

0:28:19 > 0:28:24to shine here - wait for it - at least 300 days a year!

0:28:24 > 0:28:27Although it's a small resort with just a handful of local bars and

0:28:27 > 0:28:31restaurants, its greatest asset is undoubtedly its fine,

0:28:31 > 0:28:34- white sandy beach. - It's very scenic, very pretty.

0:28:34 > 0:28:39- A little quieter.- Uh-huh. So... - A little bit further out, but you've

0:28:39 > 0:28:42- got public transport coming through again.- Yeah.

0:28:42 > 0:28:46And from here, you can walk along the beach.

0:28:46 > 0:28:48It may not be somewhere Amanda knows,

0:28:48 > 0:28:51but it's a beautiful slice of the island,

0:28:51 > 0:28:53offering a more relaxed pace of life.

0:28:54 > 0:28:57And the property they're here to see

0:28:57 > 0:29:01is under five minutes' walk to the beach.

0:29:01 > 0:29:04- Right, so we've parked the car nice and safely..- Yeah.- ..in a community.

0:29:04 > 0:29:06- It's really nice here.- So we'll go up to the apartment here.

0:29:06 > 0:29:09- OK.- It's on the first floor.- OK.

0:29:09 > 0:29:11Right.

0:29:12 > 0:29:16This apartment features beautiful modern decor throughout.

0:29:16 > 0:29:20OK. Wow, that's a lovely terrace.

0:29:21 > 0:29:24And you said you liked the modern and the neutral colours.

0:29:24 > 0:29:26- I do.- How about that kitchen?

0:29:26 > 0:29:29Yeah, that's gorgeous, isn't it? Yeah, it looks all very new, actually.

0:29:29 > 0:29:35I mean, the windows and the doors out to the terrace, that's amazing.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38And it has not one, but two en-suite bedrooms.

0:29:40 > 0:29:42Oh, this is nice. Oh, I like this.

0:29:42 > 0:29:45- I had a feeling you'd like this. - Yeah. Yes, I do.

0:29:45 > 0:29:48That's nice. That is lovely.

0:29:48 > 0:29:52- So your own en-suite bathroom. - Yes. Yes, it is me.

0:29:52 > 0:29:55Yeah, I think so.

0:29:55 > 0:30:00I'm not a fan of darker wood, but it seems to sort of blend in.

0:30:00 > 0:30:02Right, well, I've actually got another bedroom to show you.

0:30:02 > 0:30:05- Really?!- Yeah. Well, I'm thinking of Paige.

0:30:05 > 0:30:09- OK.- So let's have a little look. - Oh, that's interesting.

0:30:09 > 0:30:11- Yeah, yeah.- Wow! - Let's have a little look.

0:30:11 > 0:30:13It's bigger than I thought it would be.

0:30:13 > 0:30:17On to en-suite bedroom number two.

0:30:17 > 0:30:21Oh, wow! This is pretty good, isn't it?

0:30:21 > 0:30:25- I think so. Double bed...- Double bed...- ..and single.- ..and a single.

0:30:25 > 0:30:27Well, they'll be fighting over that.

0:30:27 > 0:30:30- Can you imagine Paige climbing up there?- She'd love it, yeah. - LAUGHTER

0:30:30 > 0:30:34- And yet another en-suite bathroom. - That's perfect, isn't it?

0:30:34 > 0:30:37So, something for everybody in this apartment, isn't there?

0:30:37 > 0:30:40- Yeah, definitely. I could have quite a few friends come here, couldn't I? - SHE LAUGHS

0:30:40 > 0:30:44- Yeah.- And now for the piece de resistance.

0:30:45 > 0:30:49- Oh, my gosh! Wow! - SHE LAUGHS

0:30:49 > 0:30:51- What a view! - Can you see the sea there?- Yeah.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54And look at that swimming pool, that's lovely.

0:30:54 > 0:30:56And the pool as well!

0:30:56 > 0:30:59This beautiful apartment has a huge communal pool.

0:31:01 > 0:31:02What's Paige going to make of this?

0:31:02 > 0:31:05Oh, I think she's going to love it here, actually. Yeah.

0:31:05 > 0:31:08Big question is, can Amanda afford this place?

0:31:10 > 0:31:13I am a little bit worried on how much you're going to tell me this

0:31:13 > 0:31:16- apartment is. - SHE LAUGHS

0:31:16 > 0:31:22So, if I told you it was £850 per calendar month?

0:31:22 > 0:31:27- Yep. You got the contracts? - Of course. - LAUGHTER

0:31:27 > 0:31:29Amanda is totally smitten with the apartment,

0:31:29 > 0:31:33and as the price includes all utilities except electricity,

0:31:33 > 0:31:35it's under budget as well.

0:31:35 > 0:31:38She can't wait to show the rest of the family.

0:31:38 > 0:31:42- Hi!- Hi!- Hi!

0:31:42 > 0:31:45I think that viewing went really well with Amanda.

0:31:45 > 0:31:48She was really excited from the minute we went in the house.

0:31:48 > 0:31:50Bedroom here.

0:31:50 > 0:31:53So it's got quite a nice bed, bedside tables and everything.

0:31:53 > 0:31:58I think, I wish I was upstairs with Amanda while she's speaking to the

0:31:58 > 0:32:03- family.- An en-suite, too! - Wow!- Nice.- Yeah.

0:32:03 > 0:32:06So I'm going to show you the second bedroom.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08- Oh, bonus.- Look at this, Paige.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12- Oh, my gosh!- Wow! Double bunk beds.

0:32:12 > 0:32:15- Double bunk beds!- Yeah. - That's so cool!

0:32:15 > 0:32:18Me and Mummy can go at the bottom and Joel can go at the top.

0:32:18 > 0:32:21- Oh, yeah, that'd be fun, wouldn't it? - LAUGHTER

0:32:21 > 0:32:24Sounds as if Amanda has already moved the family in.

0:32:24 > 0:32:26Obviously she doesn't know the area,

0:32:26 > 0:32:29so I suppose that may be a small concern.

0:32:29 > 0:32:32You go out the lounge, you've got this lovely sun terrace.

0:32:32 > 0:32:33Wow, look at that!

0:32:33 > 0:32:37Yeah, table and chairs here, and so that'll be great for in the

0:32:37 > 0:32:40evenings, sitting outside, it's gorgeous.

0:32:40 > 0:32:43And then you've got lovely views.

0:32:43 > 0:32:45Judging by the smile on Amanda's face,

0:32:45 > 0:32:49this place is looking as if it's moved into the top spot.

0:32:49 > 0:32:52- What do you think?- yeah! - That's amazing!

0:32:52 > 0:32:55- What do you think, Paige? - I think you should get it.

0:32:55 > 0:32:59Yeah, I'll call you back and speak to you later.

0:32:59 > 0:33:04- So, bye for now.- Right, speak to you later.- Bye!- Bye!- Bye!

0:33:04 > 0:33:07The whole place is just perfect.

0:33:07 > 0:33:10- Yeah, I love it.- So, you've got some thinking to do.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14I have. I think I'd like to know a little bit more about the area...

0:33:14 > 0:33:18- Uh-huh.- ..and I'd like to take a walk on the beach and have a look.

0:33:18 > 0:33:20It's just really modern and nice.

0:33:20 > 0:33:23I think it really ticks all of Mum's boxes.

0:33:23 > 0:33:26The only thing I'm a little bit worried about is the location.

0:33:26 > 0:33:31Property three has delivered on style, size and that bling factor.

0:33:31 > 0:33:36It's available to rent for at £850 a month, including most bills.

0:33:36 > 0:33:38It offers a modern interior,

0:33:38 > 0:33:42with two en-suite bedrooms, an incredible view,

0:33:42 > 0:33:44and even a communal pool.

0:33:44 > 0:33:46It's a question of whether Amanda

0:33:46 > 0:33:48will feel she can settle into a

0:33:48 > 0:33:50quieter area that's further from

0:33:50 > 0:33:51Palma than she'd originally planned.

0:33:55 > 0:33:59With Jan's help, Amanda is discovering more about the island

0:33:59 > 0:34:01that she may one day be calling home.

0:34:01 > 0:34:06As she's looking for a rental property, Amanda is able to keep

0:34:06 > 0:34:09costs and financial risks low, compared to buying.

0:34:09 > 0:34:13And renting in Mallorca instead of the UK will cost her at least half

0:34:13 > 0:34:15for a similar-sized property.

0:34:15 > 0:34:17Compared to what she spends in Essex,

0:34:17 > 0:34:20she'll also save money on everything,

0:34:20 > 0:34:22from utility bills to public transport,

0:34:22 > 0:34:24that can be almost half the price.

0:34:26 > 0:34:29Back on the search, Amanda loved the last apartment

0:34:29 > 0:34:31but is unsure of its location.

0:34:31 > 0:34:33So, for the fourth and final viewing,

0:34:33 > 0:34:36Jan is taking Amanda back into her comfort zone.

0:34:39 > 0:34:43- We're now heading into Cala Mayor. - Oh, OK.

0:34:43 > 0:34:45Oh, I know it there.

0:34:48 > 0:34:52Cala Mayor is a purpose-built beach resort close to Palma

0:34:52 > 0:34:54on the south cost.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56It's a very lively area,

0:34:56 > 0:34:59and has recently received Blue Flag beach status.

0:34:59 > 0:35:03It's also full of charming restaurants and cafes.

0:35:03 > 0:35:06So, what's it like in the winter?

0:35:06 > 0:35:08It is a lot quieter, obviously.

0:35:08 > 0:35:11- Mm-hmm.- Like many of the resorts on the Island.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14Probably half of the restaurants and bars do close.

0:35:14 > 0:35:18- OK.- But, actually, that's an appeal for a lot of people.

0:35:18 > 0:35:20They enjoy the peace and quiet.

0:35:20 > 0:35:24- Yeah.- Plenty of room on the beach, obviously. - LAUGHTER

0:35:24 > 0:35:27Amanda likes the area, but will the apartment be right?

0:35:30 > 0:35:33- So we're coming in here.- Fab.

0:35:35 > 0:35:40- OK, so we're on the ninth floor now.- Wow!- Nice, brand-new door.

0:35:40 > 0:35:42Lovely.

0:35:44 > 0:35:48This apartment features a living room with an open-plan kitchen...

0:35:49 > 0:35:53Oh, this looks nice. Lovely. A little table and chairs...

0:35:53 > 0:35:56- Nice kitchen, good sized fridge-freezer.- Yeah.

0:35:56 > 0:35:58..which leads directly on to the balcony.

0:36:00 > 0:36:05This is a lovely view. Gosh. Seeing the sea, just...

0:36:06 > 0:36:11- Aw.- And such a good size.- It's like you're on holiday all the time. - LAUGHTER

0:36:11 > 0:36:14And back inside, there's not just one...

0:36:14 > 0:36:19- And, beautiful bedroom...- Yeah. That's really nice.- ..with a sea view.- I like that.

0:36:19 > 0:36:22..but two double bedrooms...

0:36:22 > 0:36:24Oh, my goodness!

0:36:24 > 0:36:26Another bedroom. Wow!

0:36:26 > 0:36:29..with the modern interior Amanda is looking for.

0:36:29 > 0:36:33- This is my type of bathroom. Wow!- Nice and spacious, isn't it?

0:36:33 > 0:36:35It is spacious.

0:36:35 > 0:36:37Wow! It's time to find out about the price.

0:36:39 > 0:36:42- So, how much is this apartment? - LAUGHTER

0:36:42 > 0:36:45Well...

0:36:45 > 0:36:48well, this is really well priced. You've got your two bedrooms...

0:36:48 > 0:36:52- Yeah, that's true. - ..and this is £1,070...

0:36:52 > 0:36:55- OK.- ..per calendar month. - All right. That's not too bad, actually, is it?

0:36:55 > 0:36:58Oh, but that's actually including all your electric...

0:36:58 > 0:37:01- Is it?!- ..water, community fees, and your wi-fi.

0:37:01 > 0:37:03Oh, wow! Oh, that's amazing.

0:37:03 > 0:37:07- So you just need to pay for your wine.- Yeah. - LAUGHTER

0:37:07 > 0:37:10This is the third apartment Amanda has liked,

0:37:10 > 0:37:14and this one is in her favourite location. Sounds as if she's going

0:37:14 > 0:37:17to need help from back home to make the decision.

0:37:17 > 0:37:20- Hi!- Hi!

0:37:20 > 0:37:23So I'm just looking at this apartment in Cala Mayor,

0:37:23 > 0:37:26and I think you're going to like it, actually.

0:37:26 > 0:37:30OK, so this is the bedroom. Got a lot of wardrobe space, actually.

0:37:30 > 0:37:34There's like, three wardrobes there. OK, through here...

0:37:34 > 0:37:37- there is another bedroom!- Oh, wow!

0:37:37 > 0:37:40- That's for us.- Yeah, places for people to stay.

0:37:40 > 0:37:44- Perfect.- Guest room.- Yeah.

0:37:44 > 0:37:46I think it was a really positive visit,

0:37:46 > 0:37:49and let's hope that the feedback from the rest of the family

0:37:49 > 0:37:52is positive as well.

0:37:52 > 0:37:56- And then you've got the lounge area. - Oh, wow! Look at all that space.

0:37:56 > 0:37:59- Love the sofa.- Oh, wow, yeah! - LAUGHTER

0:37:59 > 0:38:02This is the view from the balcony, with the sun setting.

0:38:02 > 0:38:05Oh, yeah, it's lovely.

0:38:05 > 0:38:08I can see us on that balcony with a sangria, watching the sunset, Amanda.

0:38:08 > 0:38:12- Yeah, I could see myself doing that, all right.- Yeah, yeah. - LAUGHTER

0:38:12 > 0:38:16- Take care, then. Bye!- Bye!- Bye!

0:38:17 > 0:38:20Yeah, they did like having the second bedroom,

0:38:20 > 0:38:23but we're thinking that maybe, you know,

0:38:23 > 0:38:25I'm paying extra for two bedrooms,

0:38:25 > 0:38:28rather than just the one that I actually need.

0:38:28 > 0:38:30I'm going to be the person here all the time,

0:38:30 > 0:38:35and I think, you know, I've probably just got to consider that

0:38:35 > 0:38:38and decide, really. I think I need a little bit of time.

0:38:38 > 0:38:40So I don't know whether I can sign just yet,

0:38:40 > 0:38:43but certainly, yeah, I do like the apartment. It's lovely.

0:38:45 > 0:38:50The apartment in Cala Mayor has most of what Amanda's looking for -

0:38:50 > 0:38:54available to rent for £1,070 a month, all inclusive,

0:38:54 > 0:38:56it's only just over her budget.

0:38:56 > 0:39:00Amanda likes the modern decor and the size of the apartment,

0:39:00 > 0:39:04and it gives her the outside space she wants in an area she loves.

0:39:04 > 0:39:08But she needs to decide if it's worth pushing her budget up for two

0:39:08 > 0:39:11bedrooms, given that she only needs one most of the time.

0:39:20 > 0:39:25Jan has shown Amanda four quite different apartments along the south

0:39:25 > 0:39:27coast of Mallorca.

0:39:27 > 0:39:29Amanda has some big decisions ahead,

0:39:29 > 0:39:32and she needs to make them fast.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35But, for now, there's just time for a cheeky glass of wine with Jan to

0:39:35 > 0:39:39chat over the properties and decide whether she's ready to choose one of

0:39:39 > 0:39:40the apartments she liked.

0:39:41 > 0:39:44So, what did you think of those four properties?

0:39:44 > 0:39:46I think they're amazing, actually,

0:39:46 > 0:39:48apart from one that I really didn't like at all.

0:39:48 > 0:39:50I think you know which one that is.

0:39:50 > 0:39:52It was a great property, it just wasn't for you.

0:39:52 > 0:39:54Yeah. No, it's just my personal choice.

0:39:54 > 0:39:58- Yeah.- And, yeah, but definitely not for me, but the others, yeah -

0:39:58 > 0:40:00all contenders, I think.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03I suppose the only thing I really should say is not to take too long.

0:40:03 > 0:40:07- Yeah.- Because these great properties, they disappear quick.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10- Yeah, I understand.- There's probably people viewing them now.

0:40:10 > 0:40:14- Yeah.- And...- Oh, my gosh.- Well, I hope you make a decision with the family.- Thank you so much.- And I

0:40:14 > 0:40:19- hope to see you again in Mallorca. - Yeah, brilliant.- Cheers.- Cheers. - I've enjoyed the time with you.

0:40:19 > 0:40:23- Yeah, me too. Thank you so much. - We've had some fun, haven't we?- We have. We really have, yeah.

0:40:26 > 0:40:28Amanda wanted to escape the British weather

0:40:28 > 0:40:32and try starting a new life by spending the winter abroad.

0:40:32 > 0:40:35I'm happier in the sun, when I can go out for a walk

0:40:35 > 0:40:38and walk on the beach, and swim.

0:40:40 > 0:40:44Leaving the cold of Essex behind, Amanda jetted off to see what local

0:40:44 > 0:40:47property expert Jan had on offer.

0:40:47 > 0:40:51- At last.- Hello! Hi.- How are you? - Yeah, I'm good.- Excited?

0:40:51 > 0:40:53Yeah, yeah, very excited.

0:40:53 > 0:40:57In the capital, Palma, Amanda saw a fantastic apartment...

0:40:57 > 0:41:00- You said you wanted modern, didn't you?- Oh, wow!- And lots of light?

0:41:00 > 0:41:04- Yes.- ..but she found out just how much you have to spend to enjoy

0:41:04 > 0:41:06luxury city-centre living.

0:41:06 > 0:41:10- It is a little bit above your budget.- It is.- Yeah.- I thought it might be.- Yeah.

0:41:10 > 0:41:16The apartment in Santa Ponsa offered Amanda a cheaper option, but even with its fantastic views...

0:41:16 > 0:41:19- Lovely beach. - Yeah.- It's lovely, isn't it?

0:41:19 > 0:41:23- Wow.- I think it's really a wow, yeah.- Yeah.- Absolutely.- Me too.

0:41:23 > 0:41:26..Amanda knew this wasn't the place for her.

0:41:26 > 0:41:30- Did they convince you how brilliant this apartment is?- No. - LAUGHTER

0:41:30 > 0:41:34In Cala Vinyes, Amanda discovered a totally new area...

0:41:34 > 0:41:39- I don't know if you've ever heard of it?- I haven't, actually.- Right. - I've not been there at all.

0:41:39 > 0:41:42..and an apartment she fell in love with.

0:41:42 > 0:41:45Wow, that's a lovely terrace.

0:41:45 > 0:41:49But with the final property located in her dream location of Cala Mayor...

0:41:49 > 0:41:53- It's like you're on holiday all the time. - LAUGHTER

0:41:53 > 0:41:55..Amanda has a tough decision to make.

0:41:55 > 0:41:58I think I need a little bit of time, so I don't know whether I can sign

0:41:58 > 0:42:03just yet, but certainly, yeah, I do like the apartment. It's lovely.

0:42:05 > 0:42:09The question is, has Amanda's dream of getting away from the cold

0:42:09 > 0:42:12UK weather become a reality?

0:42:12 > 0:42:15And which, if any, of the properties have become her winter home?

0:42:18 > 0:42:20Hi!

0:42:20 > 0:42:24- Here I am in sunny Mallorca. - And I'm here visiting.

0:42:24 > 0:42:27Amanda, in the end, picked property number three -

0:42:27 > 0:42:30the Cala Vinyes apartment with beautiful views on this large

0:42:30 > 0:42:33balcony, two en-suite bedrooms,

0:42:33 > 0:42:36and a stunning communal swimming pool.

0:42:36 > 0:42:39Cheers. The life here is really much better than England, for me.

0:42:39 > 0:42:43I can wake up to the sun coming up I look out the window,

0:42:43 > 0:42:49I've got a view of the sea and the trees rustling in the breeze.

0:42:49 > 0:42:52- It's beautiful.- Yeah, I've seen a real change in Amanda.

0:42:52 > 0:42:56She's a lot more upbeat. She can get up and go and do stuff,

0:42:56 > 0:42:59and she's met a lot of other people,

0:42:59 > 0:43:01like-minded people out here as well.

0:43:01 > 0:43:04So, yeah, it's really made a change for her.

0:43:04 > 0:43:08It's a brilliant place here, and hopefully I can stay here forever.

0:43:08 > 0:43:10SHE LAUGHS
