0:03:51 > 0:03:54Being bill-free will save the couple £200 a month.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22The region has a thriving market economy where foodie Roger can shop

0:05:22 > 0:05:25for all that fresh fruit and veg

0:05:25 > 0:05:27and Margaret, of course, can enjoy the craft stalls.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36and during this period, it can be possible to pay the same amount in

0:05:36 > 0:05:39rent per month as you would per week in the high season.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04coastal town of La Cala de Mijas.

0:18:04 > 0:18:09Roger and Margaret stayed in the heart of La Cala, as it is known

0:18:09 > 0:18:12locally, when they were on holiday. Until the 1960s,

0:18:12 > 0:18:15it was a tiny little fishing village,

0:18:15 > 0:18:18but it quickly expanded when the tourist boom began

0:18:18 > 0:18:20to take advantage of its exquisite beach.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25There are cafes and bars aplenty

0:18:25 > 0:18:27and a twice-weekly market selling items

0:18:27 > 0:18:30such as artisan breads and olive oil.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35The beachfront offers a wide range of activities

0:18:35 > 0:18:38and it's a great place to fish.

0:18:38 > 0:18:42La Cala de Mijas is a blend of modern tourist amenities and a

0:18:42 > 0:18:44traditional Spanish way of life.
